EFCC arrests controller of Kirikiri prison, Emmanuel Oluwaniyi over ‘$1m scam’

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested Emmanuel Oluwaniyi, controller of Kirikiri Maximum Prison for his role in allowing Hope Aroke, a convicted internet fraudster, to receive treatment outside the prison, where he is serving a 24-year jail term.

According to the commission, Aroke, also known as “H.Money”, had masterminded a mega scam to the tune of over $1 million from prison, using a network of accomplices.  He said preliminary investigation revealed that the convict had access to the internet and mobile phone in detention.

Also arrested was Hemeson Edwin, head of the medical center at Kirikiri Prison, who allegedly gave exaggerated medical report that warranted the referral for Aroke to be treated outside the facility.

Quote:In a statement, Wilson Uwujaren, spokesman of the anti-graft agency, said the duo were arrested on Monday. “The suspects have given useful information to the Commission about their alleged involvement in the crime,” Uwujaren said.
“Aroke was one of the two Malaysia-based Nigerian undergraduate fraudsters arrested by the EFCC towards the end of 2012 at the 1004 Housing Estate, Victoria Island, Lagos, following a tip-off.”
Uwujaren said Aroke, who hails from Okene In Kogi state, had claimed to be a student of computer science at the Kuala Lumpur Metropolitan University, Malaysia. He said the agency later discovered the Aroke as the “arrow head of an intricate web of an internet fraud scheme that traverses two continents”.
Quote:“When Aroke was arrested, a search conducted by EFCC operatives on his apartment led to the recovery of several items such as laptops, iPad, traveling documents, cheque books, flash drives, internet modem, and three exotic cars – a Mercedes Benz Jeep, One 4Matic Mercedes Benz Car and a Range Rover Sport SUV,” Uwujaren said.
“He was eventually convicted by Justice Lateefa Okunnu of the Lagos State High Court, Ikeja on two counts of obtaining money by false pretence, cheque cloning, wire transfer and forgery.
“He was sentenced to 12 years imprisonment on each of the two.”

MTN Nigeria PLC (MTN) has announced that Nigeria has become the first country in West Africa to try 5G technology and applications. This is believed to be the result of a strong collaboration between the Ministry of Communications Technology and Digital Economy, the Nigerian Communications Commission, MTN and Huawei (Abuja), ZTE (Calabar) and Ericsson (Lagos.)

This immersive demo and experience will travel across three Nigerian cities to showcase the capabilities of 5G and its potential to enable economic growth, and social inclusion.

Speaking shortly after taking a tour of the exhibition booths, the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Dr. Isa Pantami, underlined the potential of 5G for sustainable growth. “I believe as long as we are able to handle the potential challenges, the deployment of 5G is very critical to our economy because of so many advantages of 5G, the issue of latency, speed and many more.”

Stressing the importance of an enabling regulatory framework and protecting telecommunications infrastructure, Pantami stated that on the instruction of President Muhammadu Buhari, he has signed a draft Executive Order declaring telecommunications infrastructure ‘a critical national infrastructure’ which has been forwarded to the Office of the Attorney-General of the Federation for review.

The Minister referred to the proposed Executive Order as a short-term measure, stressing that the President has instructed that a proper legislation be facilitated to deal conclusively with threats to telecommunications infrastructure.

Highlighting the importance of partnerships, Ferdi Moolman, the Chief Executive Officer, MTN Nigeria said “Pushing boundaries is easier when your aspirations are supported by likeminded people. We are here today because of the support and guidance of the Ministry of Communications and Digital Economy and the Nigerian Communications Commission who provided the trial spectrum used for this. Today’s success underlines the fact that we are good together.”

Mazen Mroue, Chief Operating Officer, MTN Nigeria stated that “In collaboration with our technical partners and the support of the Federal Government, we are proudly putting Nigeria on the 5G technology map.

As we continue to invest in technology solutions to meet the wide needs of our customers, MTN will continue to strengthen these partnerships as we move to build our 5G capacity in future, guided by the standards and spectrum set by the Nigerian Communications Commission.”

In addition to the bandwidth increase for seamless video streaming or the next social application playground, 5G technology supports real-time, ultra-reliable communication between massive numbers of devices.

It creates vast possibilities in innovation and transformation, and will immensely improve quality of living, as users gain a better experience of services and technology in general – from financial services, healthcare, education, and even public service delivery to more leisurely purposes, such as video streaming services, gaming and even self-driving cars.

“5G offers tremendous benefits in terms of speed, latency (less delays), efficiency and security. This pilot offers a unique opportunity for us to explore use-cases and applications in Nigeria, and we are excited about its potential for our country and our company”  noted  Mohammed Rufai,  Chief Technical officer, MTN Nigeria.

Following the successful demonstration in Abuja, the 5G-demo train moves to Calabar and Lagos. In addition to which 5G trials will be run in four other cities across the country. The 5G trial will run for three months utilizing trial spectrum allocated to MTN by the NCC.

DONALD TRUMP HONOURS HERO-DOG AT THE WHITE HOUSE AFTER CHASING ISIS LEADER, AL-BAGHDA
User Avatar Forum: General Discussion
Posted by: Edoman - 11-26-2019, 04:40 PM - No Replies

A U.S. military dog that played a starring role in the raid that killed Islamic State leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi seemed oblivious to the praise that President Donald Trump heaped on it Monday at the White House.

Conan, a Belgian Malinois dog, seemed much more interested in the head scratches it was getting from Mike Pence, repeatedly looking up at the vice president in search of more attention; not fully knowing he was the nation’s hero!

Trump has used a slew of adjectives to describe Conan, which was injured when it was exposed to electric wires in the late October raid while chasing al-Baghdadi at the terrorist’s compound in northwest Syria. “Incredible.” “Brilliant.” “Smart.” “Ultimate fighter.” “Very special.” “Tough cookie.”

“So this is Conan,” Trump said. “Right now, probably the world’s most famous dog.”

Trump bestowed a medal on Conan and presented the dog with a plaque. First lady Melania Trump stood a few feet away.

The president said initially Conan was going to be muzzled for the appearance, but Trump said he thought that would put the dog in attack mode.

“He’s not in a bad mood today,” Trump told dozens of reporters, cameramen and members of TV crews gathered in the Rose Garden. “So you’re safe.”

Trump said he asked members of the U.S. special forces who met with him Monday if an unarmed man would stand a chance against Conan. He said the special forces, who could not appear in public, told him ‘No.”

“Conan is really a hero,” Pence said, patting the dog on the head.

Woman gives birth to 'rare conjoined twins’ with two heads, three arms and shared organs

A woman in India has given birth to "rare conjoined twins" who have two heads, one body, and three arms.

Babita Ahirwar, 21, and husband Jaswant Singh, who got married less than two years ago, had been told they were expecting twins, but doctors realised something was wrong 34 weeks into the pregnancy. They were told that an ultrasound revealed the very rare form of conjoined twins.

Jaswant said: "My wife fainted after she saw the baby. We are shocked. It is unbelievable. Everyone is shocked to see them. We cannot believe our child has two heads. We were told after ultrasound that we are going to have twins. We were very happy to have two kids but it is one baby with two heads.

"This is my baby and I will raise him as he is. I am yet to hold him in my hands. People are saying many things but he is my baby and I will take him home.

"I do not have money for an operation. As long as he is alive, I will love him and take care of him."

The conjoined twins share internal organs and are now under round-the-clock observation.

Child specialist at their district hospital in India, Dr Surendra Sonkar said the baby would be moved to an advanced unit for further treatment.

She said: "They are a case of conjoined twins. We are taking care of baby and will take opinion of expert doctors in Bhopal and Delhi, who had earlier done the operation of such kids."

Lagos To Relocate 400 Jakande Estate Residents

Quote:Lagos to relocate 400 Jakande Estate residents

November 25, 2019
Tajudeen Adebanjo

Lagos State government said it would relocate 400 residents of the Lateef Jakande Estate because of reconstruction.
The estate is in Ilasan, Eti-Osa Local Government Area.

The relocation, Commissioner for Housing, Moruf Akinderu-Fatai said, will be temporary to one of the state-owned schemes which will soon be completed.

Akinderu-Fatai said Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s administration is determined to regenerate the housing estate.

He said: “We are committed to the regeneration of Ilasan and other parts of the state in line with sustainable development goal SDG 11 which is focussed on creating sustainable and livable cities and communities.

“The regeneration programme will involve reconstruction of dilapidated structures and repair of run down infrastructures which are no longer safe for further human utilisation.

“In regenerating the estate, we will also take cognisance of access to quality education, health facilities, efficient public transportation, refuse collection services, sewage, human safety and good air quality, among other things.

“We are working with other ministries and agencies to promoting a robust neighbourhood life through availability of structures that encourage community activities.”

Akinderu-Fatai said habitation in Ilasan is dangerous and injurious to healthy living, hence the government’s determination to intervene by reconstructing the estate as soon as possible.

He explained that the decision was based on the need to set good standards of sustainability for future generations of Lagosians.

“The future of our state is very important, hence we must make the right decisions today in order to bequeath a legacy of sustainability to the generations yet unborn”.

“We are set to make the provision of housing beyond mere shelter by promoting a better quality of life through enhancing inclusive and sustainable urbanisation,” he added.

Man Manhandles A Lady During A 'Crazy' Dance (Photos)
User Avatar Forum: Other Stories
Posted by: Edoman - 11-26-2019, 12:42 PM - No Replies

Quote:A man and a lady have caused serious stir online and got many people talking with their crazy dance moves.

They engaged in serious doggy style dance and the worst happened when the guy slapped the lady's bumbum, holding her neck as if he was strangling her, all in the name of dancing.

Instead of the lady to walk away and Stop the dance for being molested all in the name of dance, she was busy smiling.

Many have called out the guy for sexually assaulting the lady while dancing, others blasted the lady for smiling sheepishly despite being 'manhandled' by the guy.

Another couple were also spotted during their own crazy dance.

But women should not tolerate these kind of things from guys.

In 2011, Buhari Vowed To Serve For Only One Term If Elected
User Avatar Forum: General Discussion
Posted by: Edoman - 11-26-2019, 12:13 PM - Replies (1)

By declaring his intention to contest the 2019 presidential election, President Muhammadu Buhari went against his words.

This declaration is no doubt in perfect compliance with his rights under the law, even though it may not accord with the wishes of many Nigerians. But it is not only the desire of Nigerians that conflicts with Buhari’s second term aspiration. Seven years ago, Buhari himself appeared not to have fancied the idea.

In an exclusive interview with Sunday Trust’s Theophilus Abbah in February, 2011, the then presidential aspirant was asked about an earlier statement where he promised to serve for only a term if elected in the April elections.

“I’m not getting younger. If I succeed and do one term, I will be 73 years old,” was his short response.

The interviewer further asked what his priorities would be in that single term in office, and he said “security and power”.

“There are two issues and I have said it in one sentence. Security and power. This country has to be secured and managed. People in Nigeria must not go about fearing that they would be abducted. You must not be afraid to the point that you can’t drive from Kaduna to Kano any time of the day. If you are in Lagos, you should have jobs to the point that you can afford to have three shifts in a day.

“That is eight hours each. But people are now very scared wherever they are. People have built houses worth over a billion naira, but they are afraid to live in them. What is the use? So, security is number one.

Anytime you have sex with a person you bond with them, you become who you sleep with - Tonto Dikeh

Tonto Dikeh has shared her thoughts on sex which she described as 'soul ties'. According to the actress, anytime you have sex with a person you bond with them.

Tonto stated that people set themselves up for failure when they have casual sex. She also added that one becomes who they sleep with.

Quote:The mother of one wrote "Anytime you have sex with a person you bond with them. SOUL TIES ARE REAL??If you’re having casual sex with a few partners or even just one and claim you’re doing it with no strings attached....you’re full of it and setting yourself up for failure! Two people may decide to have sex just for the fun of it, yet something is occurring on another level.
"Sex is enhancing an emotional bond between them whether they want it or not. One person, often the woman, is bound to form an attachment and will be hurt when a casual affair ends. Why do you think it’s so hard to let go of a partner who’s hurt, disrespected and maybe abused you? They’ve transferred negative energy into you and continue to pollute your beautiful soul with their toxic energy!
"SEX IS SO POWERFUL, AFTER ENGAGING IN IT, IT CAN MYSTERIOUSLY HAVE YOU LONGING FOR A PERSON YOU MAY NOT EVEN LIKE! THAT IS A SOUL TIE! Sis, does he like you? Does he know you, do you know him? How long until he stops calling if the sex stops? No matter how tough you are, a piece of him still lies in you, even when you’re through. You could be having soul ties and giving a piece of you to a demonic spirit! This isn’t a joke, this is real! You can’t let these liquored up, drugged up, chemically imbalanced, mentally unstable spirits lay with you!
"Stop giving away so many pieces of you to men who are already broken and could care less about building with you! You ask how do you know he’s broken? That’s what courting and getting to know him is for. Sis, you’ve got to work on you before God sends a man deserving and worthy of you! Your nights may get lonely but with God you are never alone. It’s ok to take a hiatus and give your mind, body and soul a break. Mend those pieces and get whole on your own. Only then you’ll attract the man who will value you, appreciate your beauty, and admire your amazing soul!”-Ms. Bling"

82 year old grandma beats burglar who tried to break into her house at night

Willie Murphy, an 82 year old grandma, has revealed how she beat up an intruder who tried breaking into her house.

Murphy says she was getting ready to go sleep at night when a man pulled up at her house and started knocking asking her to let him in because he was sick.

When the man's knocking started becoming more intense, the grandma called the police, but before the police could come, the man broke into the house only to get the beating of his life from Murphy, who is an award winning body builder that works out at the YMCA 5 times a week.

According to Murphy she waited till he entered into the room then she picked up a table and gave him the beating of his life
“He picked the wrong house to break into..”
“I picked up the table, and I went to work on him,” she said to 13WHAM.com.
‘The table broke.” She then grabbed a bottle of shampoo and poured it into his eyes before grabbing a broom.
Murphy hid until he entered the room and that’s when she beat him to a pulp with a table.
“And when he’s down,” she continued, “I’m jumping on him.”

“I grabbed the shampoo,” she said. “Guess what? He’s still on the ground. In his face, all of it, the whole thing.”
“I got the broom,” she continued. “He’s pulling the broom. I’m hitting him with the broom.”

After police authorities arrived at the scene, they were all surprised to see what had happened and took selfies with the old woman.

According to German magazine, Bild, the robbers cut off power supply to the museum at 5am and broke in, with their main targets being jewelry, diamonds and precious stones worth millions of pounds.

According to the museum officials, the 'priceless’ sets of 18th century jewellery stolen were three sets of Baroque jewels made up of dozens of gems each and contains around 4,000 objects of gold, precious stones and other materials which police believe will be very hard to sell in the open market.

The police confirmed the robbery in a statement: The crime scene group is on the scene, the perpetrators are on the run.’, Police spokesman Thomas Geithner confirmed.

The ‘Green Vault’  housed in Dresden Castle which makes up part of the Dresden State Art Collections holds the largest collection of treasures in Europe and was founded by Prince Elector Frederick Augustus I, later nicknamed Augustus the Strong, in 1723.

Green Vault director Dirk Syndram said to German magazine, Bild: ‘Nowhere in any other collection in Europe have jewels or sets of jewels been preserved in this form and quantity. ‘The value is really in the ensemble.’

Dresden’s State Art Collections director, Marion Ackermann, said
"We cannot give a value because it is impossible to sell. ‘The material value doesn’t reflect the historic meaning.’'

The Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) has announced that beginning from December 1, 2019, a fee of N50 will be charged on all Point of Sale (PoS) transactions from N1,000 at petrol stations. IPMAN, which members own 19,000 out of the 25,000 registered filling stations said this in an advertorial published on Monday, saying it was based on a directive of “the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) dated 17th September, 2019, to all commercial banks that charges of taxes and duties be imposed on all electronic transactions.

“In view of the foregoing, the general public should please note that this additional charge shall be deducted at source by the commercial banks in compliance with the directive above. Therefore, IPMAN is in no way beneficiary to it,” IPMAN noted. However, President of IPMAN, Chinedu Okoronkwo told Daily Trust that he did not sign the notice and was unaware of it.

RHAPSODY OF REALITIES

TUESDAY, 26TH NOVEMBER.

PREACH WITH CLARITY

…the common people heard him gladly (Mark 12:37).
The way the Lord Jesus preached and taught the Word is so inspiring and intriguing. He communicated the Gospel so simply. Our opening verse says the common people heard Him gladly. The word, “heard” doesn’t just mean to hear sound; rather, it means to understand the meaning of the sound.

You may preach what you might call an erudite sermon, but if those to whom you preach or minister can’t understand what you’re saying, then you’ve really not communicated effectively. T.L. Osborn once said, “When you teach, if the people haven’t learnt, you haven’t taught.” How true!

Preach and teach the Gospel with clarity. Take a cue from the Master; large crowds stormed His meetings and yearned to hear His beautiful, Spirit-filled words.

They came, and kept coming, because they understood His words. Mark 8 reports how an immense crowd gathered to hear Him speak for three days. On another occasion, He prepped His disciples to have a boat in readiness for Him in case He was crowded off the beach, so He could preach to the people from the boat (Mark 3:9). How they loved His words!

His messages were neither vague nor laden with confusing thoughts. Even some of His detractors acknowledged that no one ever spoke like Him (John 7:46). He knew the category of people that thronged His meetings, and He gave the precise illustrations that drove home His point.

Once, as He walked by the sea of Galilee, He saw Simon and Andrew his brother who were fishermen, and said to them, “…Come ye after me, and I will make you to become fishers of men” (Mark 1:17). His illustration was apt; something they could easily relate with.

The same should be said of you as you preach, teach or express the truths of the Gospel. Don’t use ambiguous, incomprehensible words; preach with clarity. This was something on the heart of Paul the Apostle. He desired to preach the message with clarity. In Colossians 4:4 (NLT), he said, “Pray that I will proclaim this message as clearly as I should.” What a desire! Have this in mind always.

PRAYER

Dear Father, I thank you for the power of the Holy Spirit in me to minister the Gospel in simplicity and power. My words, as I preach and teach, aren’t with enticing words of man’s wisdom, but in the demonstration of the Spirit and of power, inspiring faith in the hearts of my hearers, for salvation and blessings, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.

FURTHER STUDY:

1 Corinthians 2:4 AMPC And my language and my message were not set forth in persuasive (enticing and plausible) words of wisdom, but they were in demonstration of the [Holy] Spirit and power [[a]a proof by the Spirit and power of God, operating on me and stirring in the minds of my hearers the most holy emotions and thus persuading them],

Colossians 2:3-4 AMPC In Him all the treasures of [divine] wisdom ([d]comprehensive insight into the ways and purposes of God) and [all the riches of spiritual] knowledge and enlightenment are stored up and lie hidden. 4 I say this in order that no one may mislead and delude you by plausible and persuasive and attractive arguments and beguiling speech.

John 7:44-46 MSG Some went so far as wanting to arrest him, but no one laid a hand on him. 45 That's when the Temple police reported back to the high priests and Pharisees, who demanded, "Why didn't you bring him with you?" 46 The police answered, "Have you heard the way he talks? We've never heard anyone speak like this man."

#TALKINGSESSION

26TH NOVEMBER.

Dear Heavenly Father, I thank You for giving me Your Word as the material to build my faith strong, and cause circumstances to conform to the life of glory and limitless potentials I have in Christ.

I thank You for Your blessings and my glorious inheritance in Christ, which I blissfully enjoy. I am an offspring of the Word; therefore, I am full of life! Out of my innermost being, I bring forth good things.

I declare that my life is for glory and beauty; and in my path, there’s life, success, victory, and wealth.

I am the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus, holy and sanctified unto God! I flourish like the palm tree; I am long-lived, stately, upright, useful, and fruitful, and I grow like a cedar in Lebanon;

I am majestic, stable, durable, and incorruptible, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.

God bless you

Bullion Vans: Ozekhome Says Nigerians Can Demand For Tinubu's Investigation

Chief Mike Ozekhome (SAN) ,a human rights lawyer has urged the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to investigate the petition written by activists on the bullion vans sighted at the residence of Asiwaju Bola Tinubu on the eve of the 2019 presidential election.
Speaking in a chat with Daily Independent, Ozekhome said the position of Prof. Itse Sagay (SAN), Chairman of the Presidential Advisory Committee Against Corruption (PACAC) that the petition was written in bad faith.
He said the Act establishing EFCC mandates it to investigate any person no matter how highly placed in accordance with its motto which says no one is above the law.

When a petition is written against their chieftain, it is written in bad faith; but when it is written against small-time ‘yahoo boys’, then it is written in good faith”.

“What is the job of EFCC under Section 6 and 7 of the EFCC Act? It is to investigate any person no matter how highly placed in accordance with its motto ‘No one is above the law’.

No one is saying Tinubu has done anything wrong yet, but don’t Nigerians have a right to demand that he be investigated? Why should the investigation be written off whether it was done in bad faith or good faith? Why can’t the bad faith be shown in the aftermath of the investigation? There should be no sacred cows” he asked.

Nigeria Owes N25.7 Trillion – DMO
User Avatar Forum: Market Place
Posted by: Edoman - 11-26-2019, 08:39 AM - No Replies

Quote:Nigeria borrows N410bn for capital projects in 2018 Budget-DMO.The Debt Management Office (DMO) says that Nigerian’s total debt profile is N25.7 trillion.

The Director-General of the office, Patience Oniha, announced this while addressing House of Representatives Committee on Public Account on Friday in Abuja.

“As at June 2019, our debt profile is at N25.7 trillion; this includes the federal, states governments and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).We call it the total public debt, out of this total, the federal government is responsible for 80 per cent of the debt,” she said.Ms Oniha said external borrowing accounted for about 32 per cent of the total debt while the 68 per cent was domestic.

She explained that the DMO was an agency of government which began operations in 2000 following the debt management problems of the country which led to the debt relief.

Ms Oniha said that the agency was responsible for the management of public debts and its mandate includes contracting debts on behalf of the Federal Government. The director-general said this is clear under the Fiscal Responsibility Act and provisions in the DMO Act.

“If you look back several years, over 85 per cent of budget deficits are funded by borrowing which the DMO undertakes as approved by the Federal Executive Council and the National Assembly.

“We borrow from various sources, the multi-laterals, World Bank, Islamic Development Bank, the African Development Bank, China Exim and we also issue products in the international market.

“Locally, we are also very active in domestic borrowing, we issue treasury bills, federal government treasure bonds,” she said.

Ms Oniha said DMO also serves as an advisory body for the federal government on debt management and to put debt at 25 per cent ratio to the Gross Domestic Product (GDP).

She explained that the agency did not receive any amount borrowed, saying that it was paid directly to the Central Bank of Nigeria which ensured that the money was used for what was borrowed for.

The chairman of the committee, Wole Oke (PDP-Osun), said it was important for parliament to have all the relevant information documented.

He said the parliament needed additional facts and figures following the Minister of Finance’s revelations during 2020 budget defence that revenue generation was a challenge in the country.

The lawmaker said the committee was determined to check Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) and to avert abuse of the law in the area of remittances of revenues generated.

Mr Oke said even when the MDAs had powers to spend revenue generated, the committee was determined to ensure transparency and accountability.

“This country belongs to all of us, irrespective of the three arms the Constitution recognises, those in the Executives, Legislature and Judiciary are all Nigerians. We have to synergise to ensure this country progresses,” Mr Oke said.(NAN)

Rice Price Rises By 29.41%, In Two Months Following Border Closure

Quote:Rice price rises by 29.41% in two months

Price of rice, a staple consumed during festivities in Nigeria, has risen by over 29.41 per cent since July, along with other foodstuffs. This is even as Christmas is just a few weeks away, Anna Okon reports

Before August 28 when the Nigeria Customs Service closed the borders against her neighbours, the price of rice was N17,000 per 50-kilogramme bag, having risen from N14, 000 a few months before.

Currently the price of foreign parboiled rice, has gone up to between N22, 000 and N30, 000, findings by our correspondent have shown.

Also, the price of local rice that is positioned to replace foreign ones on Nigeria’s dietary palate has also gone up.

It was gathered that the local rice at Bodija market in Ibadan, Oyo State, was being sold for N20, 000 per 50kg bag and N16, 000/50kg in Minna in Niger State.

In Garko Market, Kano, it sells for N20, 000/50kg bag.

In Lapal, Niger State; Gboko, Benue State; Maitagari, Jigawa State and Ughelli, Delta State, local rice sells for N18,000/50kg, N11,000/50kg, N19,000/50kg and N23,000/50kg bag, respectively.

In Egbeda Market in Lagos, local rice sells for about N18, 000; in Umuahia main market, Abia State, it sells for N22, 000.

The popular Ofada rice, consumed for its rich nutritional value and great flavour, sells for N28, 000 per 50kg bag and between N2, 800 and N3, 500 per 5kg bag.

This was not the case in July as data from Nigerian agriculture produce portals show.

In July, imported rice was N17, 000; local rice sold for between N11, 000 and N15, 000 for 50kg bag.

Other staples such as noodles, chicken and mackerel (ice fish) have also witnessed price increases.

Mackerel, for instance, has increased from between N950 and N1,000 per kilo to N1, 200/kilo. The price of noodles has moved from between N1,800 and N1,950 per carton to N2,100.

The breeder agriculture chicken sold for N4,500 in October, according to the National Bureau of Statistics, currently sells for between N5,000 and N5, 500.

The NBS in its Consumer Price Index which measures inflation stated that inflation rate hit 11.61 per cent in October from 11.24 in September, increasing by 0.37 per cent.

The bureau stated that this was the highest increase in eight months.

Some consumers said it would be tough to buy food items for the Yuletide season.

One of them, a housewife, Buky Olaoye, said, “The only way to do it is to buy items from far away markets where things are cheaper. Instead of buying foodstuffs in Ikeja, for instance, we will have to buy from Oyingbo or Egbeda.

“Also, it will be wise for two or more people to come together and buy in bulk and then share items.”

The Director General, Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Mr Muda Yusuf, said the months ahead would be tough for consumers.

He said at this time of the year, due to high demand ahead of the festive season, rice and other staples usually witnessed increase in price.

Yusuf said, “However, this year has been more severe because of the border closure as a large supply of food items comes from neighbouring countries and once that supply is suddenly cut off, then it leads to scarcity.

“Things will likely continue to be tight for consumers up till early next year and it affects other commodities apart from rice as people try to find cheaper alternatives.”

He advised the government to intensify efforts at boosting local production.

He said, “Productivity is still very low. Many farmers are still relying on the traditional method of farming. That cannot feed 200 million people.

“Government should do something fast because this is a real social problem. The government should consider the plight of those who are paying the high prices.”

The Director General, Nigeria Employers’ Consultative Association, Mr Timothy Olawale, said the government had achieved economic and security gains from the border closure.

Olawale said the same could not be said for the ordinary man in view of skyrocketing prices of food.

He said, “One had expected that the price of rice for instance would crash due to local production. A bag of rice that went for N14, 000 before border closure now sells for N26, 000.

“Turkey and chicken are now so prohibitive that other options like beef and goat meat are no longer preferred alternatives as they have also joined the league of food out of the reach of the masses.

“This underscores the fact that Nigeria is not self-sufficient in food production as wrongly assumed by the government. Workers’ take-home or pay can no longer take them beyond the bus stop.

“The masses are totally at the receiving end. Businesses especially in the hospitality sector have not fared well as the cost of stocking food is gradually becoming a Herculean task with food cost served guests per cover being increased.”

He said the border closure would not have been necessary if the government agents put in charge of manning them were efficient.

“Nigerians are choking and gradually being emasculated by this economic strangulation. Only timely interventions by government will save the situation,” he said.

Olawale argued that the passage of the new finance bill that would increase Value Added Tax, excise duties and other levies would bring untold hardship on the common man.

“Nigerians are urged to tighten their belts and prepare for real hard times as it seems government interest and economic agenda geared towards the maximisation of revenue at the expense of the welfare of the masses,” he said.

The Chief Executive Officer of Comtrade Group, an agriculture conglomerate, Mr Abiodun Oladapo, said most agro entrepreneurs had abandoned their infrastructure used in the production of food locally because smuggling of the products had sent them out of business.

He said, “These people are returning to their farms now that the borders have been shut and the demand for food is rising.

“It will take time because for chicken alone, it will take a minimum of 42 days to breed; the same for many other items.”

Oladapo, who is in support of the border closure, gave the assurances that if it was sustained, local farmers would produce enough to crash the prices of food.

The defendant, who claimed to be a prophet and interpreter of tongues at a branch of Cherubim and Seraphim church, is facing a charge of defilement.
His plea was, however, not taken by the court.

Kogi election: You have ‘verbal diarrhea’ – Dino Melaye tells Oshiomhole

Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the Kogi West senatorial rerun election, Senator Dino Melaye, has accused the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Adams Oshiomhole of suffering from “verbal diarrhoea.”
Melaye was responding to Oshiomhole’s remark that all 16 senators that decamped from the party alongside former Senate President, Bukola Saraki have all been punished.

The APC National Chairman, who spoke while speaking with State House correspondents after a meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari at the Presidential Villa, Abuja last week had said all the senators have been sacked from the senate.

Oshiomhole had also declared that Melaye would be defeated during the rerun election in Kogi State.

Reacting, Melaye stressed that the APC National Chairman cannot determine the outcome of the supplementary election to be conducted by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.

Featuring on Channels television, Melaye said: “The verbal diarrhea by the Chairman of APC boasting that 16 of us left the APC and I am the only one standing and in a matter of days, he said I will leave the Senate; I want to say that is human verdict but there is a God verdict.

“My seat will not be vacant, I will continue to be a senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria by the grace of God in the next four years.

“I won that election and we have our pink copies of all our unit results. These have been tabulated and clearly, I won that election and Smart Adeyemi, in his good conscience, knows that I won that election.”

BREAKING: Maina vs EFCC : Court grants ex-pension chairman N1bn Bail

 November 25, 2019

The Federal High Court, Abuja, on Monday, admitted Abdulrasheed Maina, former Chairman, defunct Pension Reform Task Team (PRTM), to bail in the sum of N1 billion.

Justice Okon Abang, who gave the ruling, also ordered that Maina must produce two sureties who must be serving senators.

The two lawmakers, according to the judge, must not be standing any criminal trial in any court in the country.

He also ruled that the two sureties, who must be prepared for a N500 million bond each, must always be in court with the defendant at each adjourned date.

Maina, who came into Court 6, 2nd Floor of the building, at about 9:40am, supported himself with a walking stick.

The ex-pension reform boss is standing trial on alleged money laundering charges involving over N2 billion preferred against him by the EFCC,
Justice Abang had, on Nov. 21, fixed Monday for hearing on the bail application and for the continuation of Maina’s trial.

The judge accused the Nigerian Correctional Services (NCS) of compounding the issue before the court by failing to produce a medical report on Maina’s health status days after the order to that effect was made.

He ruled that the trial would be on a day-to-day basis in subsequent proceedings.
Recall Maina’s trial was stalled in the last adjourned date due to his worsening health condition.

The EFCC had on Oct. 25, charged the defendant before the court alongside his firm, Common Input Property and Investment Ltd.

He pleaded not guilty to the 12-count charge and his trial has yet to make meaningful progress due to his failing health.

200 Yahoo Boys Arrested In October – EFCC
User Avatar Forum: News
Posted by: Edoman - 11-25-2019, 08:54 PM - No Replies

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), said it recorded no fewer than 200 arrests of Internet fraud suspects, popularly known as ‘Yahoo Boys’, in October alone.

The Acting Chairman of the commission, Mr Ibrahim Magu, stated this at an interactive session with newsmen on Friday in Abuja.

According to Magu, the biggest catch of the commission was Instagram celebrity, Ismaila Mustapha, a.k.a Mompha, and his Lebanese accomplice, Hamza Koudeih.

He said the suspects, who were “kingpins of an Organised Cyber Syndicate Network (OCSN)”, allegedly laundered a total of N33 billion.

Magu said: “Five wristwatches valued at over N60 million were recovered from Mompha at the point of arrest.

“Investigation has also revealed that he operates 51 bank accounts in Nigeria with which he acquired properties in Dubai and had laundered about N14 billion through Ismalob Global Investments Limited.

“His accomplice, Koudeih, also has two firms namely: THK Services Limited and CHK properties Limited with which he has allegedly laundered about N19 billion.

“Koudeih lives in a five million dollar per annum suite at the Eko Atlantic Pearl Tower, Victoria Island Lagos.’’

The EFCC boss said the arrests underscored the agency’s commitment to the fight against corruption and economic crime.

He added that there were also clear messages to “high end fraudsters that they can only run, but cannot hide, sooner than later, we will get them”.

“The effort to flush out all fraudsters continues. At the same time, we will sustain the tempo of vigorous prosecution of fraud cases in court.

“Indeed, fraudsters account for a huge percentage of the 890 convictions that has been recorded by the commission this year.

“A number of assets have been seized, while victims have also enjoyed restitution by order of court,” he said.

While noting that the battle “is far from being won”, the anti-corruption czar renewed his appeal for the support of stakeholders, especially the media, for the commission.

Magu said the youths, who were mostly involved in cyber fraud, needed sensitisation to the consequences of their actions not only to their future but to the nation’s image and economy.

He restated the commission’s resolve to rehabilitate those ready to turn a new leaf, and help them to put their skills to good use.

“The youth must learn the virtues of integrity and hard work as the path to sustainable wealth.

“They must realise that crime does not pay; rather it will destroy their prospects and ruin their chances of decent living.

“For those who are remorseful and prepared to turn a new leaf, the commission is fully disposed to help in channeling their energies and cyber skills to positive venture.

“We are considering a policy that will help in the rehabilitation of convicted, but repentant internet fraudsters.

“This is to ensure that their skills are positively applied in helping to build a better Nigerian society,” Magu said.

The deputy governor-elect in Bayelsa State, Senator Biobarakuma Degi has said that the governorship candidate of the People Democratic Party, PDP , Senator Douye Diri lost the November 16 governorship election because his principal sponsor and incumbent governor of the state, Gov Seriake Dickson imported and engaged the services of Indian spiritualists ahead of the poll.

Degi spoke in Calabar where he said he prefers to be called ‘Ambo Boy’ having lived on Ambo Street in Calabar for many years after he left office as chairman of Nembe LGA in his state.

Degi alleged that a good number of the Indian marabouts, magicians and necromancers were kept at the Creek haven government house at government expense. According to him, the magicians were purportedly brought into Yenagoa, capital of Bayelsa State so that they can work to influence the electorates on the election day and fortify occupants of Governor’s offices.

A Federal High Court in Abuja on Monday, November 25th barred the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) from prosecuting former Comptroller General of Customs (CGC), Abudullahi Dikko over alleged financial infraction while in office.

Justice Nnamdi Dimg alt='Court stops?EFCC?from prosecuting former Comptroller General of Customs, Abudullahi Dikko over alleged financial infraction' class='img-responsive text-center' style='margin: auto;'ba, in a judgment on Monday, upheld Dikko’s argument that he could no longer be prosecuted by any agency of the Federal Government after an agreement he entered with the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) and the Director General of the. Department of State Services (DSS) to refund $8 million to the government.

Justice Dimg alt='Court stops?EFCC?from prosecuting former Comptroller General of Customs, Abudullahi Dikko over alleged financial infraction' class='img-responsive text-center' style='margin: auto;'ba held that since it was proved that such an agreement exist, and Dikko has kept his side of the bargain by paying 1,576,000,000 and more to the Federal Government, through the EFCC funds recovery account in Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), it was wrong for the EFCC or any other agency of government to seek to prosecute him (Dikko) on the same alleged crime.

Nigerian man pens open letter to all 'Yahoo Boys' on how they can make legit money without defrauding people

A Nigerian man, Paul Olorunrantimi has penned an open letter to all Yahoo Boys on how they can make money without illegally obtaining money from people by deception.

Read what he wrote below.

Quote:You don’t have to be a YahooGuy to make money online. Apart from the fact that illegal wealth isn’t sustainable, illegal businesses are very addictive. You also lose your creative mind.

There are 1001 legitimate businesses you could do online & earn a decent income!

You can make livings and meet ends without defrauding anyone or mailing foreigners to send you dollars in the name of 419.

Admittedly, most advertised Internet businesses aren’t as profitable as we’re made to believe. However, a lot of them pay.

The biggest challenge with newbies is that they are over expectant and over ambitious, so the moment their expectations aren’t met as hurriedly as expected, they give up & join the millions who say Internet businesses don’t pay. Nothing good comes cheap!

It troubles me a lot seeing millions of our youths wasting precious time debating bitter politics, religion, tribal issues, etc, when such time could be used productively; for people with unemployment challenge. We need to have a sober reflection as youth.

The easiest & fastest skills/profession anyone could learn today are digital skills.

With digital skills, your chances of getting a decent job increases by over 50% at the global labour market & you could work from the comfort of your home in Ajegunle, for a client/firm in Canada.

There are hundreds of thousands of Indians who earn a living from the comfort of their homes.

They have no govt or corporate job. In fact, a lot of them don’t even have degrees.

They only need to learn basic English & they’re good to go. I have hired hundreds of them, too.We must kill this sense of entitlement we have held for long now.

The sense of entitlement that because we are graduates or hold certain qualifications, the govt or our relatives owe us decent jobs & better lives.

This may have been the case some 50yrs ago. Not in 2019, my brother!

We are now in an era where what you know (skills) beyond your conventional educational qualifications, is as or even more important than your educational qualifications, and the earlier we accept this reality, the better for us, especially as young people.

Nevertheless, govts at all levels must also be interested in championing this new direction of thinking as a means of solving youth restiveness & unemployment.

This could be done through institutional framework restructuring, designing policies policies that will transform our economy into a digital economy and human-capital development.

These have proven to create more jobs in the developing nations. Check Rwanda if I lie.

To achieve this, our leaders, especially political leaders, must first realise that they lack basic understanding of the digital world, then make efforts to learn & understand it; because you only give what you have & you cannot promote what you don’t believe. The time is NOW!

More Nigerian youths have access to the internet than Indians youths, but more Indian earn a living online than Nigerians. The difference? They are taught digital skills from primary school, while an average Nigerian attends his first computer training after graduation. What do they teach them? You already know.

The digital industry can employ more than most govt establishments, if govts could create the enabling environment. It would create more jobs & reduce the burden of employments from govt, as serious govts have little to do with direct job creation. They rather serve as ‘enablers’.

Fellas, the time is NOW to birth a new generation of radical thinkers. Are you ready?

Fish out those who burnt Kogi PDP woman to death - President Buhari tells security agents

[Image: kogi-election-violence-buhari-orders-inv...C296&ssl=1]

President Buhari has charged security agencies to fish out those who burnt Kogi State Peoples Democratic Party Woman Leader, Mrs Achejuh Abuh, to death during the state governorship election on Saturday November 16th.

Some assailants had gone to Abuh's home and set it on fire while she was inside. They  ignored her cry for help and left her to burn to death.

In a statement released by his Special Adviser on Media and Publication, Femi Adesina, President Buhari described the killing as “primitive behaviour” that should not be condoned.

Quote:“President Muhammadu Buhari expects scrupulous investigation into the heinous murder of Madam Achejuh Abuh, Woman Leader of the Peoples Democratic Party in Wada/Aro campaign council, in the just-concluded gubernatorial election in Kogi State.
“The President decries whatever could spur anyone to take the life of another human being, particularly a woman, who was burnt to death in her home in the most gruesome manner.
“President Buhari charges all security agencies involved in the investigation to do a thorough and expeditious job on the matter, so that justice could be served without fear or favour.
We must learn to behave decently, whether during elections or at other times. No life should be taken wantonly under any guise, and the fact that this reprehensible act occurred two days after voting shows primitive behaviour, which should not be accepted in a decent society”the statement read

Britain still has a colony in Africa, refuses to return its control to Mauritius

The United Kingdom (Britain) has reportedly refused to give up Chagos Islands, a group of islands in the Indian ocean as its colony despite a UN resolution asking the old colonialist to leave.

The UN had given the U.K six months to hand control of the archipelago in the central Indian Ocean back to government of Mauritius who said they were forced to hand over the Islands to the U.K. in 1965 for independence which it gained three years later, but the deadline has now passed.

Infuriated Chairperson of the African Union (AU) Commission Moussa Faki Mahamat who has expressed deep concern over UK’s continued “colonial administration” of the Chagos Archipelago, stated that it was a violation of the United Nations General Assembly’s Resolution 73/295 adopted on May 22, 2019.

Quote:“The Chairperson expresses his deep concern over the continued colonial administration of the United Kingdom to the Chagos Archipelago, in violation of the United Nations General Assembly’s Resolution 73/295 adopted on May 22, 2019, in which the international community demanded from the United Kingdom to withdraw unconditionally within six months from the date of the Resolution, which expired on November 22, 2019,” an AU statement issued on late Friday November 22 read.
Mahamat also “reiterated the support of the African Union to the Republic of Mauritius for a complete decolonization of the Chagos Archipelago, in conformity with the Constitutive Act of the African Union which defines the defence of the sovereignty, territorial integrity and independence of the Member States as one of its main objectives,” the statement read. He further reiterated the relevant decisions made by the Assembly of Heads of State and Government of the AU on the matter, in particular the Assembly/AU/Dec. 747(XXXll) decision on the decolonization of the Chagos Archipelago, which was adopted in February this year in Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa. The AU Commission Chairperson also “called upon the United Kingdom to comply with the General Assembly Resolution, within the spirit of the advisory opinion of the International Court of Justice.” He further “requests the international community to continue its support to the Republic of Mauritius for a complete decolonization of the Chagos Archipelago.”

The UK government however said it does not recognise Mauritius' claim to sovereignty. Britain's Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) insists it has every right to hold onto the islands - one of which, Diego Garcia, is home to a US military airbase.

Quote:"The UK has no doubt as to our sovereignty over the British Indian Ocean Territory (BIOT), which has been under continuous British sovereignty since 1814," it said in a statement.
"Mauritius has never held sovereignty over the BIOT and the UK does not recognise its claim."
But Labour Party leader Jeremy Corbyn said it was important to return the islands "as a symbol of the way in which we wish to behave in international law".
He added: "I am looking forward to being in government to right one of the wrongs of history."

The Chagos Archipelago was separated from Mauritius in 1965, when Mauritius was still a British colony. Britain purchased it for £3m - creating the BIOT.  In May, the UN General Assembly voted overwhelmingly in favour of the Chagos Islands being returned - with 116 states backing the move and only six against.

The UN said that the decolonisation of Mauritius "was not conducted in a manner consistent with the right to self-determination" and that therefore the "continued administration... constitutes a wrongful act".

UN's deadline was however not binding, and the U.K. is not expected to face sanctions or immediate punishment.

Gabrielle Union reportedly fired from ‘America’s Got Talent’ for speaking out against Racism, Sexism and more

American actress, Gabrielle Union-Wade has reportedly been fired from ‘America’s Got Talent.’

According to reports from LoveBScott, the 47-year-old actress who used to be a judge on the show was fired for speaking up about ‘problematic’ situations, including racism, sexism, and many more.

NBC sources told lovebscott.com that “[Gabrielle’s] contract was not renewed after being the #1 talent on the show, NBC and network TV. She set the record for her Golden Buzzer. They only replace the women and blacks at Simon’s whim. She wouldn’t walk away from $12 million because she’s ‘busy.’ Based on weekly interactions on social media, by the time AGT finale aired Gabrielle was the #1 talent on network TV for 2019. Why not pick up someone’s option in extreme success?”

The report also claimed that Gabrielle Union was fired from the program alongside her fellow Judge Julianne Hough.

The NBC sources continued: “Social media engagement is the new measuring stick for talent and Simon isn’t on social media. Juliane and Gabrielle were both way higher ranked/engaged than Howie. The idea the network wants to ‘switch things up’ only applies to women and Black folks.

The NBC insiders added that Gabrielle’s firing is merely a continuation of their problematic tendencies.

“Let’s just say they didn’t start the racism, homophobia, transphobia, Islamophobia etc. in season 14. They were quite comfortable with it all by the time Gabrielle got there. Remember Nick said ‘NBC stands for N*gga Be Careful.'”

This comes two years after Nick Cannon took to Facebook to announce that he was ‘threatened with termination by executives’ after he made a racial joke about NBC on his Showtime stand-up special. He later quit his job as host of ‘America’s Got talent,’ saying “My soul won’t allow me to be in business with corporations that attempt to frown on freedom of speech, censor artists, and question cultural choices.”

APC member seeks amendment of constitution to allow President Buhari contest third term

Charles Enya, a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ebonyi state who served as the organising secretary for President Buhari's campaign organization during the 2019 general election has filed a suit (FHC/AI/CS/90/19) before a federal high court in Abakiliki seeking the amendment of the constitution to allow President Muhammadu Buhari get another term in office.

The APC member described the two-term tenure limit for presidents and governors as “discriminatory”  in relation to the executive and legislative branches of government in Nigeria, in the suit which has Mohammed Sani-Omolori, clerk of the national assembly; the national assembly and Abubakar Malami, attorney-general of the federation and minister of justice as defendants.

He asked the court to prevail on the defendants to remove constitutional clauses hindering elected presidents and governors from seeking a third term in office.

Daily Trust reported that he is seeking an “order of the court nullifying and setting aside section 137(1)(b) and 182(1) (b) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended) and directing the first and second defendants to delete and expunge sections 137(1)(b) and 182(1)(b) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, (as amended).”

This is coming after President Buhari debunked reports of seeking a third term in office.

Probe of Air Peace CEO, Allen Onyema's $44.9m wire deal link with Amnesty cash begins

A probe to establish a link between the $44.9 million wire deal traced to Air Peace chairman Allen Onyema in the United States and the Presidential Amnesty Office has reportedly began.

It was learnt that after the U.S. Government released indictment charges against Mr. Onyema and the airline’s Chief Finance Officer Ejiroghene Eghagha, a former top officer of the Amnesty Programme sneaked out of the United States to evade arrest.

Four firms/Non-Governmental Organisations involved in the wire deal scandal reportedly have links with the Amnesty Programme Office and the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) according to preliminary findings, and investigators have also found the wire deals to have the imprints of some former political office holders.

One of the firms is Foundation for Ethnic Harmony (FEHN) which handled the training and transformation of some former Niger Delta militants for both the Amnesty Programme Office and the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC).

Quote:A top EFCC source who spoke in confidence,  said: “Detectives have been able to establish that some of the firms/groups/NGOs were engaged in humongous contracts by NDDC and the Amnesty Programme Office for the training of some ex-militants abroad.
“Such contracts were spread for over 10 years covering some foreign jurisdictions and some administrations in Amnesty Programme Office and NDDC.
“We are probing links between the amnesty cash and the $44.9 million in the indictment charges.
“Our team will interact with relevant desks and analyse the financial records of the affected agencies.
“Some few persons have claimed that more than of the contracts for the training of ex-militants were awarded to groups/ firms allegedly owned by Onyema. Our comprehensive investigation will determine the veracity or otherwise of this.
“Depending on our findings, we are likely to invite some past coordinators and top officers of the Amnesty Programme Office and NDDC.”
The source added: “We are strongly suspecting that some amnesty funds might have been laundered. But when we go into the books, we will be able to establish the truth or otherwise.
“There is a nexus between the timelines in the indictment charges and the years some contracts were awarded to Onyema. Our job is not to prejudge, we will do a thorough assignment.
“Detectives are retrieving all banking records of the firms/ groups and NGOs.
“We will be fair and firm. And we will release details of our findings soon. We will invite all the key actors, including Onyema, and officers of relevant banks.”

The Nation reported that a former top officer of the Amnesty Programme Office has been declared wanted by the EFCC in connection with the ongoing investigation.

Quote:“We got report that the said former officer has relocated from his hiding place in the United States since the US inquiry intensified in the last six months,” the source said.
According to a research document, “between 2009 and 2011, the amnesty  programme was allocated N127 billion (US$819 million) in the national budget.
“Of this amount, N3 billion was the ‘take-off’ grant, N30 billion was spent on militants’ stipends and N96 billion on feeding the militants. In 2012, N74 billion (US$477 million) was allocated to the amnesty programme.
“When this is juxtaposed with fiscal transfers to the Niger Delta region between 2009 and 2012—for the Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs, N241 billion (US$1.55 billion), and for the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) N246.6 billion (US$1.6 billion)—the scale of state largesse is astonishing.
“These fiscal transfers are separate from the sub-national budgets of the six core oil-producing states in the Niger Delta, which totalled N1.74 trillion (US$11.2 billion) just for the fiscal year 2012.”

The figures from 2013 to date were being awaited last night.

Two baby factories uncovered in Anambra

Anambra state special anti-child trafficking task force has uncovered two baby factories where pregnant teenage girls are kept till child birth and their children are in turn sold.

The baby factories were discovered in Obosi community of Idemili North local government and Onitsha by the task force led by the state commissioner for Women and Children Affairs, Lady Ndidi Mezue.

It was gathered that the rescued teenage girls were kept in the facility to keep their pregnancy a secret.

Quote:“They are not properly fed because the home only managed to feed them to avoid much spending as they are only interested in having the baby.
“It will also pay off for the young mother after delivery even if it is always a token,” a source The Nation.
“The operators deal majorly with unwanted pregnancies by young girls outside wedlock and they come here to avoid being exposed until after delivery.
“Some indigent girls are lured with money by management of some baby homes and impregnated by men under the payroll of the baby homes,” the source further revealed.

The manager of the home was reportedly arrested by the special task force who promised to launch an investigation.

PDP Tells NASS They Shouldn't Surrender Their Independence
User Avatar Forum: General Discussion
Posted by: Edoman - 11-25-2019, 11:58 AM - No Replies

Quote:...Urges Lawmakers To Insist on Oversight Functions

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) counsels the leadership of the Senate to resist any forms of intimidation from the Buhari Presidency to surrender its independence and pass bills and requests without statutory legislative scrutiny and oversights.

The party’s position is predicated on the blanket comment credited to the Senate President, Senator Ahmed Lawan, that any request from President Muhammadu Buhari to the National Assembly is good for the nation, even without subjecting such requests to statutory legislative scrutiny.

The PDP describes such stance as unconstitutional and unacceptable as it amounts to relinquishing statutory powers of checks and balances of the National Assembly.

This, our party notes, will create an alarming impression that the present National Assembly has been annexed by the executive and reduced to a rubber stamp legislature.

The statement by the Senate President has heavily detracted from the expected independence of the legislature. It is fast eroding the confidence Nigerians have on the Senate and the National Assembly, as true representatives of the people at the national level.

The party notes that even if the Senate leadership believes in the import of any request or bill from the President, the 1999 Constitution (as amended) requires the legislature to pass such through its statutory checks and balances processes to ensure that the content and intent are in tandem with overall national interest.

Such legislative checks are enshrined in the constitution to curtail the excesses of the executive as well as create room for democratic tenet of citizens’ participation through their elected representatives.

Anything to the contrary is a direct suspension of our constitution, enthronement of dictatorship and a sidestepping of the legislative powers, which is capable of destroying the institution of the National Assembly.

Moreover, legislative processes for statutory interfaces with other arms of government, particularly the executive, is governed by the constitution, laid down legislative rules, practices and conventions and not by the narrow-minded assumptions of any single individual.

The PDP reminds the Senate President that the National Assembly is the very symbol of our nation’s democracy. It is an institution that belongs to the people and not to any political party or group. Ceding its independence therefore amounts to surrendering the sovereignty of the people.

Our party therefore charges National Assembly members to ensure they live up to their billings by insisting on their oversight functions as well as take immediate steps to reassure Nigerians on its capacity to protect their interests at all time.

Kola Ologbondiyan
National Publicity Secretary

Honour Your Agreements With ASUU , Emir Sanusi Urged FG
User Avatar Forum: General Discussion

The Emir of Kano, and Chancellor, University of Benin, Muhammed Sanusi II, has urged the federal government to honour all agreements it entered into with the Association Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) to end frequent distortion of university calendar. Sanusi spoke at the weekend during the 45th convocation/49th Founders Day ceremony of the University of Benin.

“The worrisome development of late is the tug of war between the government and academic staff union of universities on issues bothering on fiscal policy of the government. The media, were recently, awash with news of threat of strike by ASUU over their integration into the integration payroll information system (IPPIS). “My advice to the government is that there should be a political will to honour all agreements it entered into with university unions; be more open to dialogue and try to involve all stakeholders in the decision-making process,” he said.

According to him, once that is done, frequent disruptions of academic calendar of universities which has resulted in the decline in the quality of graduates, will become a thing of the past. While commending President Muhammad Buhari for the relative peace, uninterrupted academic calendar in the universities so far, he maintained that a lot still needs to be done ‘‘if we want our universities to achieve global visibility’’.

The Emir of Kano also commended the governing council of the university for the transparent manner through which it selected the new Vice Chancellor of the institution, Prof Lilian Salami. While noting that the new Vice Chancellor was selected on merit, Sanusi charged her to follow the footsteps of Prof Grace Alele Williams, the first female Vice Chancellor of the institution.

Lagos Shuts Christ Embassy, Mosques, Hotels, Other Churches Over Noise Pollution
User Avatar Forum: News

Officials of the Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency, LASEPA, have shutdown Christ Embassy Church, Iyana Ipaja; churches, mosques, hotels and others over noise pollution.

In all, 20 facilities were shut by the government on Saturday in its determination to curb the menace of environmental nuisance across the state and further restore sanity and orderliness.

The exercise, which cut across churches, mosques, hotels and nightclubs, included Water Parks at ikeja; West gate Louge, Omole, Magodo phase 1; Skylouge Bar, Oko Oba; Mallam Garba Mosque, Iloro; Dick Jockey outlets, Dopemu, Agege; Christ Embassy Church, Iyana ipaja and El Castillo Homes, Abule Egba.

Others are Triple Z Hotel & Suite, Shasha, Akowonjo; Regia Luxuria Hotels & Suites, Alimosho; Kings of Diamonds, Coker, Barrel Louge, Opebi; Voice Of Elijah Christian Church, Ikeja; Celestial Church of Christ, Ilupeju and unnamed Mosque at Allhamdiyah.

However, LASEPA’s General Manager, Dr Adedolapo Fasawe warned the public, particularly unrepentant noise polluters to desist from the act of attacking its officials while discharging their duties or face the full wrath of the Law.

Fasawe observed with dismay the frequent attacks of the officials and obstruction of same from carrying out their official duties by unidentified hoodlums hired by facility owners to prevent lawful application of the law, saying that the law enforcement agents all over the world were not always in the good book of offenders, whose primary aim was to subvert law and pervert cause of justice at all cost.

She added that officials of the agency were attacked by hoodlums at the Westgate Louge, Omole and Sky Louge, Oko Oba while performing their duty to shut down the facilities for their persistent noise and failure to operate within the ambit of the law.

According to her, negative consequences awaited these perpetrators as the officials represented the government and whose motive was to protect the interest of the society against interest of few self centred defaulters.

“Enforcing environmental law in our society that thrives on impunity will require enlisting maximum support of the members of the public, especially our clerics, opinion, political and market leaders to lend their voices to the campaign and condemn the unwarranted but coordinated attacks being launched on the officials while performing their duties,” she said.

She further addressed the on-going insinuations and campaign of calumny against the agency by some mischief makers that particular religion was being targeted in the fight against noise pollution.

“Our operation devoid all religious coloration and no particular religion is targeted, our primary objective is to ensure decorum and sanity in the state.

The agency in the past months has being recording tremendous success and which must be supported by all rather than unwarranted attack of our intention by means of misinformation, misrepresentation and deliberate negative reports to bring the agency to disrepute and causes chaos among our people.

“We have deployed various innovations and techniques to tackle environmental pollution, especially in the area of noise pollution all to no avail, such as engaging the public through advocacy, social mobilization programmes, stakeholder’s forum, Alternate Dispute Resolution (ADR) and lastly the use of enforcement as last resort in maintaining sanity,” she said.

Biafra : "Airpeace Boss, Allen Onyema Lied Against Me" - Nnamdi Kanu Reveals

By Wisdom Nwedene

The leader of the Indigenous People Of Biafra, IPOB, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu has accused the CEO of Airpeace, Allen Onyema of lying against him.

Speaking during a live broadcast monitored by Igbere TV, Kanu said Allen Onyema lied against him but he reminded him that he knows the source of his riches.

According to Kanu, after his statement the Fulanis went after him because they know that IPOB will not fight for him for undermining their struggle.

He said : "Allen Onyema lied against me, and I reminded him that I know the source of his riches. After my statement the Fulanis went after him, they know that IPOB will not fight for him for undermining our struggle to restore Biafra’s independence. I will not ask him further questions, I believe he has learnt his lessons."

Recall that the US Attorney General’s office in Georgia had in a press release obtained by Igbere TV alleged that Onyema along with his airline’s Chief of Administration and Finance, Ejiroghene Eghagha, had been charged to court for falsifying documents and money laundering.

RHAPSODY OF REALITIES

MONDAY, 25TH NOVEMBER.

THE CHAMPION OF PEACE

For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace (Isaiah 9:6).

How wonderful this is! Jesus is our Prince of Peace; the champion of peace. You can’t find peace anywhere else, no matter how you try, except in Christ Jesus. In John 14:27, He said, “Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.”

The foregoing words of Jesus are just so comforting! He makes it clear that under no circumstances should you allow your heart be troubled, because He’s filled your life with His peace.

He wasn’t just referring to the peace of being quiet from disturbance, but peace without agitation, full of rest and prosperity; dominion over the crises of life!
Notice He didn’t say, “my peace I will give unto you”

No! He said, “My peace I give unto you.” You have His peace now. You have what the governments of this world can’t provide; not even your family and friends can give you lasting peace, happiness, and joy; only Jesus.

In your life, no matter what happens, be unperturbed; be full of confidence, because the Champion of Peace is in your life. Remember what He did to the raging, tempestuous sea? He hushed it to sleep.

There’s no crisis in your life that’s beyond Him.
Don’t be flustered by whatever may be going on around you; you have the peace of Jesus Christ in your heart. Irrespective of the turmoil, speak forth His Word, and there’ll be “a great calm.” Praise God!

CONFESSION

The Prince of Peace lives in my heart, and He’s granted me eternal joy, comfort, prosperity and power over crisis. I reign and rule over life’s challenges because my heart is stayed on His Word. My path is as the shining light that shines more and more unto the prefect day! My victories are guaranteed, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.

#FAITHPROCLAMATION

25TH NOVEMBER.

I declare that I am a new creation, born superior to satan and all the demons of darkness. I am an offspring of divinity and a product of Christ's resurrection! I am a partaker of the divine nature and I dwell in Zion; therefore, I don't get sick.

I am born for health, success and the glory of God! Hallelujah! No weapon fashioned against me shall prosper because my body is the temple of the Holy Ghost. I am complete in Christ Jesus, and I've been perfected through my union with Him.

I've been created for good works and predestinated for the good life; there is nothing wrong or missing in my body. I've got everything I require for an excellent life and sickness is not a part of it.

The word of God is working mightily in me. It doesn't matter what may come my way; I am a victor and I've overcome because I am more than a conqueror. The life of God is working in my spirit, soul and body, and it's manifested in all that concerns me. Sickness and ill-health are far from me.

I am protected from harm and I dwell in health all of my days. Hallelujah. The same spirit that raised up Jesus from the dead lives in me; it's impossible for me to be brought down by sickness.

The healing power is working in my bones, tissues, tendons, ligaments, and in every cell in my blood. The Holy Ghost vitalizes my body; my body cannot be destroyed. Glory to God. Hallelujah!

God bless you
