2019 Victoria's Secret Fashion Show is officially cancelled amid rising criticism of the event

This year's Victoria's Secret Fashion Show has been officially cancalled amid rising criticism of the event.

Stuart Burgdoerfer, the chief financial officer and executive vice president of L Brands, which owns Victoria's Secret, confirmed its cancellation during a conference call on Thursday, November 21, 2019.

"We'll be communicating to customers, but nothing that I would say is similar in magnitude to the fashion show... You can be sure we'll be communicating with customers through lots of vehicles including social media and various, more current platforms, if you will," Stuart Burgdoerfer said.

Cancellation of the show comes after Australian model and mother-of-one, Robyn Lawley kick-started a global campaign to cancel the show last year, after Victoria's Secret failed to include any plus-sized models in their shows.

Earlier this year, Karlie Kloss, supermodel and former Victoria’s Secret Angel revealed why she stopped working with them saying: “The reason I decided to stop working with Victoria’s Secret was I didn’t feel it was an image that was truly reflective of who I am and the kind of message I want to send to young women around the world about what it means to be beautiful.” She told British Vogue that leaving the brand was “a pivotal moment in me stepping into my power as a feminist”.

Robyn, a former Sports Illustrated model, also spoke out against the parade recently, saying:  'All my friends that were doing that show were starving themselves. They weren't eating and they were exercising four to five hours a day and they are not usually exercise people,' the beauty stated.

She added: 'I know it from the inside out and it is complete bulls**t.'

The annual Victoria’s Secret televised fashion show, which is known for its jewel-encrusted bras with supermodels sporting angel wings was launched in 1995 and has been running for two decades.

The show paved the way for many supermodels including Tyra Banks, Heidi Klum, and Miranda Kerr. In 2018, Victoria's Secret Fashion Show featured A-list models including Bella Hadid, Kendall Jenner,  Behati Prinsloo, Gigi Hadid, and Adriana Lima among many others.

The federal government has approved Public Private Partnership (PPP) projects worth $8bn in eight years, the Director-General, Infrastructure Concession and Regulatory Commission (ICRC) Mr. Chidi Izuwah has said.

Mr. Izuwah who gave the figures yesterday at the joint PPP network meeting in Abuja added that  the period of the approval was between 2010 and 2018. “Between  2010  and  2018,  under  the  regulatory  guidance  of  the  ICRC,  the  Nigerian Government  has  approved  PPP  projects  worth  almost  $8bn,” he said.

Mr. Izuwah said as at June 25 2019, there were 69  post-contract  PPP  projects  under  implementation  at the  ICRC  Projects  Disclosure  Portal.

The portal was established by the ICRC in collaboration with the World Bank. He said, “as  at  31st  October,  2019,  there  are  139  pre-contract  projects  at  Development  and Procurement  phases  at  the  ICRC  website.” He said as at the end  of  October,  the  Commission  has  granted  nine Outline  Business Case   and  nine Full  Business  Case  Compliance  Certificates  for  2019.

This, he stated, brings  the  total  compliance  certificates  granted  since  inception  to  76  OBCs and  31  FBCs  certificates.

The  latest  of  these  certificates, according to him,  is  the  OBC  Compliance Certificate  for  the  22  Teaching  Hospitals  upgrade  and  the  FBC  Compliance Certificate  for  the  Automated  Ticketing  System  for  the  Nigerian Railway Commission.

Speaking on the objectives of the conference, he said, it sought to identify as well as improve the bankability of selected PPP projects in Nigeria with a view to accessing project funding from African Export Import Bank.

The Chairman, Senate Committee on Works Senator Adamu Aleiro, said the Senate would amend the ICRC Act to attract private sectors investment.

Update: Police arrests native doctor who burnt 13-year-old boy's hands in Nasarawa

Last week, LIB shared the sad story of 13-year-old Ovey Friday, pictured above, who lost both his hands after his stepmother took him to a native doctor and coals of fire were heaped on his tied hands after he was accused of being a wizard. Read here.

The stepmother had accused him of sleeping with her in the dream and she needed him to confess and also get the spirit out of him. She took him to her native doctor in Wulko Community, Nasarawa Eggon Local Government Area, Nasarawa State where hot coals were placed on the boy's tied hands. The incident led to a permanent deformity of his right hand while the left hand was amputated at an Abuja hospital on November 14th.

The police have arrested the accused native doctor, 45-year old Adamu Musa.

When interrogated, Musa denied claims of burning Ovey’s hands, insisting he only rubbed a herbal substance on his hands.

Quote:“They are saying, I burnt his hands but I didn’t burn his hands. It is just a medicine I rubbed over his hands to ascertain if he is possessed or not and I told them(the stepmother and paternal grandmother), that if he is possessed, he would vomit and if he is not his hands will swell severely. It is the medicine that made his hands like that because he is not possessed'' he said

The victim however dismissed the herbalists claim. Ovey in a chat with Channels TV, said

Quote:''He is lying, he burnt my hands and the whole act didn’t happen in the presence of my stepmother and paternal grandmother. They were in another room and we were in another” .

Ovey’s father, Friday who did not show up after the October 28th incident amidst several phone calls was also not present during the surgery. He, however, arrived Wulko community in Nasarawa Eggon local government area of Nasarawa state, Monday,18th November which is three weeks after the ordeal and is yet to visit his son at the hospital.

Commenting on the arrest, Bola Longe, the state police commissioner, said the suspects will be charged to court.

Quote:“They are being subjected to exhaustive interrogation to know the veracity of their statement. We will definitely charge them to court when we complete the investigation and it will be very soon and we want to use the case to send a message to members of the public particularly those who are saddled with the affairs of taking care of children. No one should show wickedness any child and quine who does so will face the full wrath of the law,” he said.

Lagos State government shuts down Oyingbo Market

The Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) has put business activities on hold at the popular Oyingbo Market over environmental infractions.

Muyiwa Gbadegesin, the Managing Director of LAWMA, said in a statement on Thursday, November 21st that the infractions included indiscriminate refuse dumping and refusal to patronise Private Sector Participation (PSP) operators.

Others were roadside trading and poor hygienic practices resulting in serious environmental problems in the area. Gbadegesin said that an abatement notice and several warnings issued to the traders yielded no result, thus necessitating the closure.

He said that the market would be reopened when traders began to comply with the government’s rules and regulations by shunning indiscriminate refuse disposal and patronising assigned PSP operators. The LAWMA boss appealed to other markets in the state to imbibe the culture of effective waste disposal as markets whose activities were found detrimental to the health and environmental well being of the populace would be shut down until further notice.

According to him, efforts of the state government to enthrone a sustainable environment are being undermined by some individuals who will rather dump refuse on unauthorised locations, hence the need for total enforcement. He warned that the grace period for environmental defaulters in the state had expired, as there would be total enforcement against all forms of illegal and reckless waste disposal capable of degrading the environment and posing health hazards to residents.

Quote:“The act of indiscriminate refuse disposal in the city poses grave danger to public health and economic growth. Before now, we adopted moral suasion as a tool to persuade residents to shun indiscriminate dumping. In spite of our efforts, some people have bluntly refused to turn a new leaf. Now we have commenced total enforcement to put defaulters in check,” Gbadegesin said.
The LAWMA boss noted that the Enforcement Unit of the agency had been mandated to work round the clock to clamp down on all environmental infractions capable of derailing efforts of the authority toward environmental sustainability in the state.
Quote:“Section 115 (4) and 116 part IV, Environmental Sanitation Nuisances and Litters, as well as Section 81, Part III, Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) of Environmental Management and Protection Law 2017, prohibits dumping of waste at undesignated places, which attracts specified sanctions,” he said.
Gbadegesin said that the agency recently published a public notice in major national dailies, stating various environmental offences and appropriate sanctions to defaulters.
Quote:“The state’s laws are quite clear on the prohibition of illegal refuse disposal. It shows zero tolerance for environmental infractions and violators would be duly sanctioned to serve as deterrent to other residents,” he said.
Gbadegesin called on residents to support efforts of the state government to establish a cleaner and healthier environment in Lagos by ensuring they bagged and containerised their wastes appropriately, as well as patronising assigned PSP operators. He said that LAWMA would continue the distribution of waste disposal bags under its Blue Box Initiative, for residents to sort their waste and dispose appropriately.

Maina Bleeds In Court, Judge Warns Against Drama
User Avatar Forum: General Discussion
Posted by: Edoman - 11-22-2019, 11:32 AM - No Replies

Quote:Justice Okon Abang, the presiding judge in the ongoing trial of Abdulrasheed Maina, a former chairman of the Pension Reform Task Team, yesterday warned that the court would no longer tolerate “drama” during the proceedings. The judge said this while ruling on an application for adjournment on the grounds that Maina’s health had further deteriorated during the proceedings.

Maina is standing trial on a 12-count charge bordering on money laundering and concealment of proceeds of the unlawful act. His son, Faisal, is also standing trial before the same court on a separate three-count charge.

Earlier, counsel to the second defendant, Adeola Adedipe had informed the court that the court’s findings on the medical record of Maina and the ruling on the bail application filed by Maina have direct impact on the continuation of the trial. But while the court was still taking responses from other counsels, a security operative attached to the court approached the judge to inform him that water was being poured on Maina, who was seated at the back roll of the court room.

At that point, Maina’s lawyer, Francis Oronsaye, informed the judge that he had intended to apply for the court’s permission for his client to take his medication, but does not want to be seen as disrupting the proceedings.

71 Cultists Suspended From Secondary School Etoi, Uyo For Trying To Burn School
User Avatar Forum: News
Posted by: Edoman - 11-22-2019, 11:28 AM - No Replies

A total of 71 pupils of the Government Secondary School, Etoi in Uyo Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State have been suspended for allegedly attempting to burn down the school.

It was gathered that some pupils alleged to be members of a cult group took the law into their hands and vandalised the school property.

The pupils also held the Principal hostage for several hours and attacked security personnel in the school.

The Commissioner for Education, Prof Nse Essien, announced the suspension when he led some management staff of the ministry and other stakeholders in the education sector to assess the situation, with a view to proffering a lasting solution.

Expressing his dismay at the attitude of the pupils, Essien said the school was the right of everyone and it should be protected. He said the Akwa Ibom State Government would not fold its hands and allow hooligans take over the school.

The commissioner added that anybody found culpable would be severely punished.

Stressing that those who took part in the incident were not bonafide pupils of the school, he called for the cooperation of all, including the security agencies, to fish out the bad eggs.

“All the 71 pupils will be suspended indefinitely for their part in the acts of violence and insubordination, except proven otherwise.

“We got some of the names through intelligence. This measure is meant to sanitise the system and serve as deterrent to others” he said.

He added that the final-year pupils among them would have their names removed from the list of WASSCE candidates to further buttress government’s zero tolerance for indiscipline.

The commissioner blamed the teachers for the poor upbringing of the affected pupils, which he claimed had contributed to their actions.

“As teachers, it is your job to instill discipline in the pupils and to forestall a breakdown of law and order in our schools. Any teacher who is accustomed to lateness, negligence of duty and other forms of misdemeanor will face serious sanctions”, he said.

They came to rejoice with one of their own, Hon. Justice Chioma Nwosu-Iheme, PhD, who had just come back from the Lion’s den. In her words she came out from the land of the dead.

So, the women came to celebrate with her and her family, to praise God for His mercies and protection.

Nwosu-Iheme, is CATOL’s parishioner.

Justice Chioma Nwosu-Iheme was abducted inside Benin City, around 11.30am, on October 30, not along the Benin- Agbor road as was reported in the media.

For four days, her abductors made no contact with her family or anybody. On the 5th day, they did, and named their price.

And negotiations began

Days ran into two weeks. The negotiation went back on forth. An agreement was reached. On the 13th day, they called for the ransom money to be delivered. They promised to release her that night, somewhere, in Benin. It didn’t happen. And they made no other contact.

But on the 14th day, late evening, Her Lordship’s voice was the sweetest heard by her family in decades of her being wife and mom.

She called from the Protea Hotel, Benin City, to say she has been released; that she was free, and safe.

The CATOL women who came visiting just wanted to see her. To thank God. To pray with, and for her. And to hear her voice, even one word, one sentence.

They got more than they bargained for. They heard the story of her ordeal, why, and how she was abducted.

At some point, a number of the women became emotional. And so did Nwosu-Iheme, especially, when she spoke about her Police Orderly of 12 years, an Inspector. Her voice cracked. Tears rolled down her cheeks. “He was my friend, my kid brother, my Chief Security Officer. He was different. An honest police officer. He lived with me for 12 years.

For those 12 years, he protected me with his skin. And finally, he gave his life for me. As long as I live , as long as my family members live, his family will never suffer. His six children will go to any school of their choice, to any level. That’s a promise we, as a family, have made to God.”

Abduction, Not Pre-planned. She Ran Into Her Abductors

Justice Nwosu-Iheme’s abduction shocked Nigerians and the International community. Nigeria’s first female Judge to have a PhD, reputed for her fearlessness and no-nonsense stand on issues, she had handled many sensitive cases, including the notorious ‘Otokoto case’. At a very young age, she fearlessly, took on the case which had been rejected by a couple of other Judges. The fear when she was abducted was: Who dunnit?

Of the Appeal Court Division, Benin, she was presiding over appeal cases emanating from the 2019 General election at the time of her abduction. So, was she kidnapped because of the cases the Court was handling and/or had handled – Political or otherwise?

But she rubbished such fears and thoughts. The Appeal Court, unlike the High Court, is not a-one man show. Usually, three Judges sit on an Appeal.

Her abduction was not pre-planned, she emphasized. She was at the right place at the wrong time.

Done with her duties in Benin, the Judge was on her way to Owerri when the unfortunate incident amazingly took place inside Benin City.

The abduction scene was a stretch of bad road in the city. Every motorist usually slowed down there. As her car was approaching the spot, there were “uniformed policemen” there. Well-kitted, they packed their double-decked Hilux vehicle, stood-by, AK 47 guns in hand.

They were kidnappers. She didn’t know. Nobody knew. They had already, earlier, kidnapped four people, including, mother and daughter. There was, also, a young ex-FUTO student, an engineer, who wept like a baby as soon as she recognised Nwosu-Iheme. He was classmates with her son at FUTO. The Judge was in the habit of feeding all of them fat, and giving them pocket money each time they visited.

The Kidnappers were waiting to kidnap more people when Her Lordship’s SUV, bearing an FG plate number and Judiciary, approached. They saw a Policeman sitting in front, and knew that whoever must have a kidnap value. They smiled, and readied themselves for action.

As her vehicle slowed down, they saluted her. She raised her hand and took their compliments. That was when they struck.

Before she brought down the hand she had just used to take the compliments, a volley of gun shots rained. Confused, she wondered where the shots came from. Momentarily, she relaxed, thinking she was in the midst of Policemen. But, instinctively, she bent her head down. And so did her Orderly, or so she thought. She didn’t know that he had been fatally shot. He was wearing a bullet proof vest. They knew and, so, aimed at his forehead.

Before she could comprehend what was happening, scores of bullets rained again, this time, shattering her car’s two back tyres.

She told her driver to drive on. Since it was in the city, broad day light, she thought, an intervention would come. None came.

She said she had two options: To feign she was dead, or to allow them take her. She discarded the former. If she feigned she was dead, they may in anger, for losing a high profile price, pump bullets into her. She opted to be brought out from the car, and put in the Hilux. That was where she met the others earlier kidnapped.

Six men, wearing Police uniform did the job.

“I was not a target. I was not trailed. Nobody double-crossed my car. I was not on the Benin-Agbor road. It was in Benin city. I ran into them. Four people had been kidnapped before me. If I had delayed anywhere by 20 minutes, that would have saved us. They would have driven off before our arrival”.

The Joy Of The Kidnappers

As soon as they put her in the hilux, the first thing they did was to grab her wrist watch. They looked at it, they screamed. Their joy knew no bounds. These guys knew the make. Then, they grabbed her rings and her bangles, and screamed some more. They went back to her car, took her hand bag, saw the quality, and knew they had hit a jackpot.

Then, they went back and grabbed her suit case. They took their time. Yet, the thousands of Security personnel in Benin – Military, Police, Civil Defence, Para- military – were nowhere near! God has buttered their bread, the abductors exclaimed. They, therefore, discarded the idea of waiting for some more victims. Justice Nwosu-Iheme was more than enough. They drove off, unconfronted. And this was inside Benin City!

They asked their five victims to bend down, as they drove on, just so nobody would see them and suspect anything. But there was no need. They knew their route. Until they got to their final destination, they met no military or police check-point.

Madam Justice, You Have Broken The Internet

Final destination was a house – completed, not uncompleted, as had been speculated.

By the next morning, they had known her identity, fully. Smart guys, they relied on the internet to follow reactions to their exploits of the previous day. The Social media provided that. It was awash with her very rich Curriculum Vitae. What they read gave them joy unlimited. A Judge of the Appeal Court. (They called it Appeal Supreme Court). Nigeria’s first female Judge to have a PhD. Well respected and regarded.

Holds the key to a city in the USA. Dotting husband. Well behaved children – all lawyers, medical doctor, engineer. Had handled high profile sensitive cases. What else? The Social media had it all. So, they told her: “Madam Justice, you have broken the internet. We thank God for providing you for us. We are happy you are in our midst. After you, we will not embark on any other job for the next six months. God has blessed us with you in our midst”.

Nigeria's GDP Rises By 2.28% On The Back Of Oil & Gas In Third Quarter Of 2019
User Avatar Forum: Market Place
Posted by: Edoman - 11-22-2019, 10:46 AM - No Replies

Nigeria’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) grew by 2.28% (year-on-year), in real terms, in the third quarter of 2019. Compared to the third quarter of 2018 which recorded a growth of 1.81%, the real GDP growth rate observed in the third quarter of 2019 indicates an increase of 0.47% points. Relative to the second quarter of 2019, which recorded a growth rate of 2.12%, Q3 2019 represents an increase of 0.17% points.* On a quarter on quarter basis, however, real GDP grew by 9.23%. The growth rate in Q3 2019 represents the second-highest quarterly rate recorded since 2016.

In the quarter under review, aggregate GDP stood at N37,806,924.41 million in nominal terms. This performance is higher compared to the aggregate of N33,368,049.14 million recorded in the third quarter of 2018, representing a year on year nominal growth rate of 13.30%. The growth rate is, however, lower relative to rates recorded in the third quarter of 2018 by –0.28% points and the rates recorded in the preceding quarter by –0.71% points. For better clarity, the Nigerian economy has been classified broadly into the oil and non-oil sectors.

The Oil Sector

In Q3 2019, Nigeria recorded average daily oil production of 2.04 million barrels per day (mbpd), its highest in more than three years. This output was 0.1mbpd higher than the daily average production of 1.94mbpd recorded in the same quarter of 2018 and 0.02mbpd higher than the revised oil production levels in Q2 2019 of 2.02mbpd.

The real growth of the oil sector was 6.49% (year-on-year) in Q3 2019 indicating an increase of 9.40% points relative to rate recorded in the corresponding quarter of 2018. The rate was lower by –0.68% points when compared to Q2 2019 which was 7.17%.* Quarter-on-Quarter, the oil sector recorded a growth rate of 18.88% in Q3 2019. The sector contributed 9.77% to total real GDP in Q3 2019, up from figures recorded in the corresponding period of 2018 as well as the preceding quarter, when it accounted for 9.38% and 8.98% respectively.

The Non-Oil Sector

The non-oil sector grew by 1.85% in real terms during the reference quarter. This is –0.48% points lower when compared to the rate recorded in the same quarter of 2018 but 0.20% points higher than the second quarter of 2019. During the quarter, the sector was driven mainly by the Information and Communication sector. Other drivers were Agriculture, Mining and Quarrying, Transportation and Storage, and Manufacturing. In real terms, the Non-Oil sector contributed 90.23% to the nation’s GDP, slightly lower than the share recorded in the third quarter of 2018 (90.62%), and in the second quarter of 2019 (91.02%).

RHAPSODY OF REALITIES

FRIDAY, 22ND NOVEMBER.

DON’T WORRY ABOUT TITLES

And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers; For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ (Ephesians 4:11-12).

From our theme verse, it’s clear that it’s God who appoints or calls people into these ministry offices. You don’t just look at yourself and say, “What gift do I have?” and then apportion a name for yourself. It doesn’t work like that.

Back then, as we were growing up as spiritual adolescents, there were those who thought they had a ministry. I remember some who were called prophets, and some apostles; they distributed among themselves one office or the other. But some of those people today aren’t even Christians anymore; they left the faith years ago.

What they needed to understand was, there’s a growth to this thing. Even Paul who was called to be an apostle didn’t start out as an apostle. The Bible says there were certain prophets and teachers in the church at Antioch, and Paul (who was also called Saul) was named as one of them (Acts 13:1). He wasn’t yet called an apostle, even though he was called into the apostolic ministry.

The callings are at different levels. At a certain level of your life, it’s being formed, but don’t go faster than the Lord would want you to. The Bible says, “And no man taketh this honour unto himself…” (Hebrews 5:4). Don’t take the honour upon yourself. After all, does it matter if people don’t call you by the title you love? Isn’t it better to just do the work? It makes more sense, because if they call you by the title and then you don’t fulfil it, that’s not a good thing.
It’s not right to be respected for something you’re not.

Never let such things bother you. What matters to God is the state of your heart; not the title by which you’re addressed. Greatness isn’t in your title or in the recognition you enjoy from men; it’s in the quality of your personality; who you are with God.

PRAYER

Dear Lord, thank you for the opportunity to be loved and called by you. I fulfil my calling in the Gospel without reproach, motivated by your will and vision of salvation of souls and dissemination of the truth. Therefore, I joyfully take up the great commission to reach out with the light of the Gospel to those living in darkness, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.

CBN: Cassava Derivatives Import Costs N183 Billion Annually
User Avatar Forum: Market Place
Posted by: Edoman - 11-22-2019, 09:30 AM - No Replies

In spite of being the world’s largest cassava grower, Nigeria still spends about $600m (about N183bn) annually to import cassava derivatives; foreign exchange that would otherwise have been used to build public infrastructure. The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor, Godwin Emefiele, stated this in Abuja on Thursday during the memorandum of understanding (MoU) signing ceremony with key stakeholders in the cassava value chain.

There was also an MoU between Nigeria Cassava Growers Association and large-scale Cassava Processors to guarantee steady off-take and processing of cassava in Nigeria going forward. He said the MoU with the relevant stakeholders is a move to maximize local benefits of all the derivatives in cassava and save scarce foreign exchange.

Key political figures at the ceremony include the Ekiti state Governor, Dr Kayode Fayemi (who is also the Chairman, Nigerian Governors Forum); Ondo state Governor, Rotimi Akeredolu; Oyo state Deputy Governor, Engr Rauf Olaniyan, and Ogun state Deputy Governor, Mrs Noimat Salako-Oyedele. According to Emefiele, aside from “the foreign exchange conservation, increasing cassava production is a necessity as starch, glucose, sorbitol and other products currently being imported proffers no future for the nation in the long-term, in view of the fact that Nigeria imports cassava derivatives valued at over $600m annually.”

Speaking to the gap and potential demands that exist locally if the cassava value chain is developed he said “demand for high quality cassava flour (HQCF) in bread, biscuits and snacks is above 500,000t annually while supply is below 15,000t.” According to the statistics he gave, “demand for cassava starch is above 300,000t annually while supply is below 10,000t, and demand for cassava-based constituents in sugar syrup is above 350,000t annually while supply is almost non-existent.”

He also indicated that the “potential demand for ethanol in Nigeria as a fuel for cooking, to power vehicles (E10), and other industrial uses exceeds 1 billion litres, while production is nearly zero.” “It was on this premise that we included cassava in the FX exclusion list to salvage the industry, encourage farmers to go back to their farms to boost jobs creation and increase output and improve the capacity utilization of our processing companies” he explained.

He noted that “although huge investments were made into the industry during the cassava bread initiative, the industry continues to suffer as a result of low yield varieties, poor farm practices, lack of good quality farm inputs, non-utilization of available cultivable lands, manual system of production, inadequate funding for small holder out grower schemes and low processing capacity.”

Governor Fayemi pledged the governors support for the initiative even though he decried the sustained attacks of farmers by herdsmen saying it is a major concern.

How do you get poe orbs in Path of Exile?
User Avatar Forum: News

POE Orbs is rare, even if your game level is high, you may not be able to meet it. Sometimes you have to rely on luck. So many times, players spend a lot of time on the game and there is a sense of frustration, because they don't get the POE Orbs they want.

You can think differently, try to get more POE PS4 Orbs, and buy POE Orbs with POE Currency. This is also a way, but this method may require you to spend a lot of time in the game. In short, it is very time consuming.

If you want to get the most precious POE Orbs through shortcuts, it is not impossible, but it is better to choose a website with high security. I prefer to use poecurrency.com because I have seen a lot of guidelines for POE related projects here. Including POE Orbs, of course, will also provide you with cheap trading methods.

If you like, you can also sell items you don't need here, very fast. You can buy POE Xbox Orbs ,and you can also sell. Because this website itself is a professional website that assists poe players, there is no need to worry about security. I hope you can get help here.

I am playing Madden 20 PC version now. For me, I really like the event in October. Because the reward is too rich. I just took part in the event to win the game and the Madden 20 Coins is enough for myself. So No other methods needed.

Although the rewards for the event are very rich, we need to compete with patience, and you need to win the game to get these rewards. This may be a big challenge for novices.

If the novice wants to get Madden Coins quickly, the easiest way is to buy it from GameMS, because when you Buy Madden Coins you can enjoy 10% off and the delivery speed is very fast, the most important thing is the security is very high, I often visit this website. I often browse the game guide here, so I am very familiar.

An Oklahoma woman has been pictured grinning in her mugshot just after she was arrested for the murder of her husband.

48-year-old Shanda Johnson-Williams was arrested on Tuesday, November 18 after her husband, Jamie Williams, 48, was found stabbed to death inside their home in Ft. Towson two days earlier.

According to a statement released by the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation, a 911 call was made Sunday to say that Williams had been found unresponsive at his home. By the time paramedics arrived at the premises, Williams was dead, with a medical examiner subsequently ruling that the cause of death was a single stab wound.

In her mugshot which was published online by authorities, Johnson-Williams was pictured grinning.

Reacting to the mugshot, a local law enforcement officer told Newsweek that the mugshot could be damaging for Johnson-Williams in the future.

'The smiling photo won't help her when showed at jury time,' Sheriff Terry Park stated.

Johnson-Williams, who is currently being detained at Choctaw County Jail, is now facing a first-degree murder charge, which could see her receive a death penalty.

Ismaila Mustapha Mompha Sues EFCC For N5 Million Over Unlawful Detention
User Avatar Forum: News
Posted by: Edoman - 11-21-2019, 08:16 PM - Replies (1)

Social media celebrity, Ismaila Mustapha, popularly known as Mompha, has filed a suit against the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) alleging unlawful detention and a violation of his rights.

Mompha was arrested on October 19 at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja on allegations of cybercrime and money laundering.

The Instagram celebrity has now filed a fundamental rights enforcement suit at the Lagos State High Court in Igbosere through his lawyer, Gboyega Oyewole.

Igbere TV reports that Mompha is demanding damages of N5 million for his unlawful detention without trial.

He prayed the court to order the EFCC to either immediately charge him to court or release him if it was not ready to charge him to court.

Mr Oyewole said his client, as a Nigerian, was entitled to the protection of his fundamental rights under sections 34, 35 and 36 of the 1999 constitution.

According to him, the court order to keep Mompha had since expired and he ought to be released.

A date is yet to be fixed for hearing of the case.

The EFCC in late October arrested a Lebanese and two other suspected accomplices of Mompha.

Hamza Koudeih was arrested after a three-hour stand-off at his N1.8 billion luxury apartment in the 33-storey Eko Atlantic Pearl Tower, Victoria Island, Lagos.

$11m cyber fraud: Court grants permanent forfeiture of Obi’s N280m to Nigerian govt

The Lagos State chapter of the Federal High Court on Wednesday permanently forfeited to the Federal Government the N280,555,010.65 found in bank accounts belonging to two companies owned by ‘Forbes entrepreneur’ Obinwanne Okeke, AKA Invictus Obi.
Invictus Oil and Gas Ltd and Invictus Investment Limited are the names of the companies.

Okeke is standing trial in the United States of American for an alleged $11m cyber fraud following his indictment alongside 77 Nigerians.
The presiding judge, Justice Rilwan Aikawa, made the order sequel to a motion for final forfeiture filed by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC’s lawyer, Rotimi Oyedepo.
Recall that the judge had on October 9 granted an interim forfeiture of the funds and ordered EFCC to publish the interim order to enable any interested parties to show cause why the final order should not be made.

Oyedepo, at the resumed hearing on Thursday, informed the court that all requirements for final forfeiture had been met.
The EFCC lawyer asked the court to grant the application for final forfeiture because “there is no opposition to the request from anybody.”

Justice Aikawa, while granting his request in a bench ruling, ordered that the sum of N280.5m in two Zenith Bank accounts no 3341692012 and 1013714256 be forfeited to the Federal Government of Nigeria.

“I have seen the application seeking for the final forfeiture of the sum of N280.5m where housed in the two bank accounts which is reasonably suspected to be proceeds of unlawful activities.

“I am satisfied that the requirements enumerated under Section 17 of the Advanced Fee Fraud and other Related Offences Act have been met by the applicant in this suit. Consequently, this application is hereby granted as prayed as it remains unchallenged.

“The sum of N280.5m found in the bank account of Invictus Investment Limited, who is the second respondent in this suit, is hereby forfeited to the Federal Government of Nigeria.”

The EFCC had told the judge that Okeke, 31, was “a strong leader of a cybercrime syndicate specialising in business email compromise.”

In an affidavit filed in support of the application, EFCC investigator, Ariyo Muritala, said the commission assigned him and others to investigate a request for information on Okeke and three others by the United States Department of Justice, Office of the Legal Attache, US Consulate General.
“I know as a fact and verily believe that our investigation has revealed the following ear-aching and mind-boggling findings:

“(a) That the Obinwanne George Okeke is a strong leader of a cybercrime syndicate specialized in business email compromise.
“(b) That the said syndicate has defrauded many innocent and unsuspecting victims…
“(g) That the said Obiwanne George Okeke has been arrested by the Federal Bureau of Investigation in the United States of America for cybercrime-related offences

“(h) That if these funds are not forfeited to the Federal Government of Nigeria Obiwanne George Okeke and his cronies will dissipate same,” Muritala said in the affidavit.

Okeke was in 2016 celebrated by Forbes International as one of Africa’s most outstanding 30 entrepreneurs under the age of 30 and described by the magazine as “proof that there is hope for Africa.”

But he was arrested in August this year by the American Federal Bureau of Investigation as the ringleader of a cybercrime syndicate, which had defrauded a number of American citizens to the tune of $11m “through fraudulent wire transfer instructions in a massive coordinated business email compromise scheme.”

1,000 Chinese Scammers Arrested Inside A House In Malaysia (Photos)

Quote:It was a busy Wednesday for Malaysian Immigration Department officials after they raided and arrested 1,000 Chinese nationals believed to be part of the largest online scam syndicate operating in the country.

Taking to their Facebook account to share the details of the bust, officials say that the group was operating out of an office in the university-slash-tech town of Cyberjaya, just outside of the Malaysian capital.

A press conference on the raid is expected later today, but videos have been widely shared across Facebook over the last 24 hours.

In one clip, an individual appears to be evading police by jumping out of an office block window. (He gets up afterwards, but definitely looks a little worse for wear.)

Another clip taken from a nearby building appears to show scores of people running from the raid, fleeing down the city’s wide streets.

Another video shows an officer grabbing and wrestling back one of the individuals attempting to escape.

Petrol Subsidy Hits N19.37/Litre- NNPC Spends N1.1bn Daily Report
User Avatar Forum: Oil/Gas
Posted by: Edoman - 11-21-2019, 01:44 PM - No Replies

Quote:Data obtained from the Petroleum Products Pricing Regulatory Agency on Tuesday showed that the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation was subsidising the cost of Premium Motor Spirit consumed across the country by N19.37 per litre.

NNPC, on several occasions, had stated that Nigeria consumes between 55 million to 60 million litres of PMS, popularly known as petrol, daily.

In its July 2019 financial and operations report, for instance, the corporation said a total of 55.74 million litres of petrol was consumed across the country on a daily basis.

Going by a daily consumption of 55 million litres and the N19.37 subsidy which the corporation currently incurs on every litre of PMS consumed in Nigeria, the national oil firm is spending about N1.1bn daily on subsidy.

Further findings from the PPPRA on Tuesday showed that the landing cost of petrol as of November 18, 2019 was N144.7/litre, while the distribution margin was put at N19.37/litre.

A summation of the landing cost and the distribution margin gives the total and actual cost of the commodity, which was put at N164.07/litre.

The commodity is, however, sold at a regulated price of N145/litres at filling stations across the country.

In another development, the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Timipre Sylva, and the Managing Director, ExxonMobil Nigeria, Paul McGrath, met in Abuja on Tuesday to discuss the activities of ExxonMobil in Nigeria.

At the meeting, Sylva told the ExxonMobil team that attracting more investors into the oil sector would not be done at the expense of the long-term relationship with existing investors.

Nigeria targets agricultural output of N38.4tn by 2036

The Nigerian Incentive-Based Risk Sharing System for Agricultural Lending (NISRAL), has said by increasing hectarage and yield using fertilizers, seeds, adopting good cultural practices, the nation’s agricultural sector output is expected to hit N38.4 trillion by 2036.

According to the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, NISRAL Plc, Aliyu Abdulhameed, opportunities in the agricultural space is huge with just 43 percent of 84 million hectares cultivated, while over $22 million sizes of the investment is waiting to be harnessed by business leaders and investors in the agricultural space..

He spoke at a symposium on financing agribusiness organised by the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI), in Lagos.    Abdulhameed, who was represented by the Head, Balance Sheet Financing and Portfolio Management, Ernest Ihedigbo, said Nigeria must imbibe a good agricultural practice to have a share of the $5 trillion global agribusiness industry. He added: “In 2016, the value of agricultural production was N14.85 trillion, and if we are to increase yield by using fertiliser and quality seeds, we will add another N10.3 trillion. If we are to increase hectarage from the current 41 million hectares to about 48 million hectares, an additional, we will add another N7.8 trillion. All these activities if consistent would shoot the agricultural output to about N38.4 trillion by 2036.”

He said the agribusiness has been affected by broken value chains, perceived high risk, high transaction cost and inadequate funding, adding that the sector grew by 2.1 percent in an era where other sectors were struggling, and called on local and foreign investors to take advantage of Nigeria’s huge agricultural sector.

Earlier, the President, LCCI, Babatunde Ruwase, said the theme of the event tagged, “Making agribusiness bankable: Lenders and investors expectations” could not have come at a better time when there is an urgent need to diversify the country’s productive base.He said the World Bank projects that by 2030, the African food market will grow to be a $1 trillion industry, saying that Nigeria must scale up investments in improving agriculture yield and integrating the value chain over the next decade to effectively capture a significant share of the market.

He pointed out that agriculture financing in Nigeria is largely dependent on government funding, financial institutions, private investment and institutional funding. He noted that agribusiness has not enjoyed robust credit flow from financial institutions and private investor over the years partly because of the perception that projects in the value chain have longer payback period and relatively less profit margin.   Citing official data, he said agriculture attracted $169.37 million between April and June, which is mere three per cent of total foreign capital brought into the country, saying that during that period, bank credit to the agriculture sector was less than five per cent in the same period.

The Chairperson, Financial Services Group, LCCI, Mojisola Bakare, said despite laudable initiatives, credit to the sector remains largely stifled. She maintained that evidence shows that the total bank loans to the agric sector is only about four per cent of the total lending of commercial banks credit, which she said is below the Central Bank of Nigeria’s (CBN’s) seven per cent target.

“This outcome indicates that there are expectation gaps between the financial industry/owners of funds on one hand, and the agriculture operators/demander of funds on the other hand. Inability of the agribusiness owners to understand the metrics and risk criteria used by the financial institutions in assessing bankability and viability of agriculture and allied projects, inhibit access to finance,” she said.

FG, states record N352b shortfall in revenue target as fiscal crisis persists

Borrowing, debt-to-revenue ratio to worsen

The Federal Government and the state of the federation missed their respective revenue targets gain for the month of October, widening the 2019 budget deficits. At N894.09 billion, the estimated federally-collected revenue (gross) in October 2019, fell below both the monthly budget estimate of N1.246 trillion.

The shortfall represents 28.2 percent of the monthly budget estimate and 0.9 percent of the preceding month’s receipt, a development that has been attributed to shortfall in both oil and non-oil revenue. The development, which shows that the country’s fiscal challenges still remain at large, raised more worries as discordant tones were said to be trailing the new Finance bill currently at the National Assembly.

There were allegations that members of the finance committee of the House of Representatives were at loggerheads with their counterparts at the Senate for being left out of decisions, leading to boycott of hearings.

An economist, Ucha Wagbo, said the unsteady revenue stream of the government and sustained dependence on oil income, after huge debts without sustainable projects, will only have one outcome, which is bad for the economy.

“The country will continue to borrow and the worsening debt service-to-revenue ratio will persist. Nigerian leaders are too relaxed for my liking, especially in development projects. Once they pay themselves, they are contented leaving the economy in shambles,” he said.

According to the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), in its October 2019 Economic Report, oil receipts, at N577.30 billion or 64.6 percent of total revenue, was below the monthly budget estimate of N798.83 billion by 27.7 percent.

However, it exceeded the receipt of N467.58 billion in the preceding month by 23.5 percent, while the decrease in oil revenue has been associated with shut-ins and shut-downs at some terminals of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, due to pipeline leakages and maintenance activities.

Specifically, at N316.91 billion, the estimated Federal Government retained revenue for the month of October 2019, was below the monthly budget estimate of N705.44 billion, which is 55.1 percent shortfall.

A breakdown of the fiscal report showed that Federation Account pooled 88.4 percent of the total retained revenue, while Value Added Tax (VAT), Independent Revenue and Exchange Gain amounted to 4.2 percent, 7.3 percent, and 0.1 percent, respectively.

Similarly, at N316.79 billion or 35.4 percent of total revenue, non-oil receipt was below the monthly budget estimate of N447.24 billion and the preceding month’s earning of N434.52 billion by 29.2 percent and 27.1 percent, respectively.

The drop in collection, relative to the monthly budget estimate, was due to the decline in revenue from corporate tax, VAT, education tax and Federal Government Independent Revenue.Of the total, N697.5 billion was retained in the Federation Account.

The sums of N89.16 billion, N23.11 billion, and N2.33 billion were transferred to the VAT Pool Account, Federal Government Independent revenue, and “Others”, respectively, leaving a net balance of N582.90 billion for distribution to the three (3) tiers of government.

The Federal Government received N279.98 billion, while the state and local governments received N142.01 billion and N109.49 billion, respectively.

The balance of N51.42 billion was shared among the oil-producing states as 13 percent Derivation Fund. Also, from the N89.16 billion transferred to the VAT Pool Account, the Federal Government received N13.37 billion, while the state and local governments received N44.58 billion and N31.21 billion, respectively.

Quote:At least 13,423 Nigerian students currently studying in the U.S. contributed 514 million dollars to the U.S. economy in 2018, according to official data.

The data is contained in the 2019 Open Doors Report on International Educational Exchange released by the Institute of International Education (IIE) and the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs.

The report indicates that Nigeria is the 11th leading place of origin for foreign students in the U.S. as of the 2018/2019 session.

It accounts for 1.2 per cent of the total number of 1,095,299 international students in the country.

A breakdown of the figure shows that 5,689 of the Nigerian students are at the undergraduate level, 5,274 at the graduate level, 367 at the non-degree students, and 2,093 on Optional Practical Training (OPT).

According to Wikipedia, OPT is a period during which undergraduate and graduate students work for one year on a student visa toward acquiring practical training to complement their education.

News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Nigeria is the only African country in the top 20 places of origin for international students in the U.S.

China holds the top position with 369,548 students, followed by India with 202,014, South Korea (52,250), Saudi Arabia (37,080), and Canada rounding out the top five with 26,122 students.

According to the report, international students account for 5.5 per cent of the total U.S. higher education population.

Citing data from the U.S. Department of Commerce, the report said that foreign students contributed 44.7 billion dollars to the U.S. economy in 2018, an increase of 5.5 per cent from the previous year.

Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) are the top choices of international students with 52 per cent of the total studying in those fields, according to the report.

The report shows that out of 341,751 U.S. citizens studying abroad in 2017/18, Nigeria hosted 34 making it the 130th destination for American students.

The UK, Italy, Spain, France, Germany, Ireland, China, Australia, Costa Rica, and Japan were the top 10 study destinations for American citizens, hosting an average of 18,000 students each.

South Africa occupies the 11th position on the table as host to 6,001 American students in 2017/18.

“We are happy to see the continued growth in the number of international students in the United States and U.S. students studying abroad,” said Marie Royce, Assistant Secretary of State for Educational and Cultural Affairs.

Speaking at the launch of the report in Washington, Royce said that promoting the mobility of international students remained a top priority for the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs.

“We want even more students in the future to see the U.S. as the best destination to earn their degrees.

“International exchange makes our colleges and universities more dynamic for all students.

“Education at a U.S. institution can have a transformative effect for international students, just like study abroad experiences can for U.S. students,” she said.

ASUU Says Buhari Disobedience of Laws of the Land as the Greatest Corruption
User Avatar Forum: News

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has described alleged disobedience of President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration to laws of the land as the greatest corruption. The union spoke on the latest directive by the Federal Government that her officials will move to campuses to begin enrolment of university workers on the Integrated Personnel Payroll and Information System (IPPIS).

ASUU, while reacting through its University of Ibadan Chairman, Professor Deji Omole, stated that the union cannot be harassed or intimidated by those who have penchant for breaking the law of the land. According to him, breaking existing laws with impunity is the greatest corruption. Omole added that it is worrisome that a government under democracy is afraid of negotiation and dialogue but prefers to use force.

The ASUU boss maintained that the union will use available democratic means to prevent the violation and desecration of the Nigerian University system which the children of the President and top government officials do not find worthy of attending. “The government’s pronouncement to forcefully enrol university workers is an act of violence against the university system. It is worrisome for a government under democratic dispensation to resort to force rather than dialogue.

“If not, why is the government afraid of negotiations. We are not perturbed by the directive. A government claiming to be fighting corruption should not break the law. “The university Autonomy Act is very clear on university administrators. There is no greater corruption than those breaking the law of the land. Breaking of existing laws with impunity is the greatest corruption anywhere in the world; we refused to be harassed or intimidated. “We are not strangers in this country.

We are veritable stakeholders. We cannot be harassed. We have told them what to do. Let the government come back to negotiation’s table and let’s discuss the grey areas. Forceful enlistment will not solve the problem. “We are not disturbed but we are worried, government is getting dictatorial. A supposedly democratic government is getting dictatorial,” Omole said.

RHAPSODY OF REALITIES

Thursday, 21ST NOVEMBER.

DISCERN THE BODY OF CHRIST

For he that eateth and drinketh unworthily, eateth and drinketh damnation to himself, not discerning the Lord’s body (1 Corinthians 11:29).

When people don’t understand the reality of the Word of God, they go into errors and as a result, their lives are in jeopardy. In Matthew 22:29, Jesus said, “You err, because you don’t know the Scriptures and the power of God.”

Take our opening verse for example; it reveals something striking about the Holy Communion: the wine isn’t just a drink; it’s the communion of the blood of Christ, just as the bread represents His body. To drive this point home, the Apostle Paul said, “…the things which the Gentiles sacrifice, they sacrifice to devils, and not to God: and I would not that ye should have fellowship with devils (demons)” (1 Corinthians 10:20).

When the Gentiles offer sacrifices to idols, they’re actually offering them to demons. This means that those sacrifices are connected to demons. Anyone who partakes of those sacrifices in any way, comes into fellowship with demons, and some have attracted demons to themselves that way. Some people have become sick as a result, and even mentally troubled, unable to do anything for themselves.

In the same way, the Bible says when we take the cup and eat the bread, we’re in fellowship with God. Blessed be God! 1 Corinthians 11:26 tells us categorically that taking the Communion is participating in the blood, and body of Christ. It’s the reason we’re admonished to discern the Lord’s body; be mindful of its power and significance. Many have trouble today in their physical body, while some have even died, for not discerning the Lord’s body.

1 Corinthians 11:30 says, “For this cause many are weak and sickly among you, and many sleep.” What cause is the Spirit referring to? It’s the failure to discern the body of Christ. Therefore, examine yourself and relate properly to the Church of God. Don’t treat the local church carelessly or with disdain. Walk in love always, and honour God’s people.

PRAYER

Dear Father, thank you for the blessing to participate in the communion of the blood and the body of Christ. Thank you for the guidance of your Spirit who helps me discern the body of Christ. I have eternal victory and dominion over sin, sickness, disease, death, and the devil, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.

Amnesty International Declares Sowore, Bakare, Jalingo Prisoners Of Conscience

Amnesty International has declared #RevolutionNow protest convener, Omoyele Sowore, his compatriot, Olawale Bakare and a journalist, Agba Jalingo prisoners of conscience.

It said the men have faced ongoing arbitrary detention and unfair trials solely for exercising their right to freedom of expression.

The Media Manager of the international human rights organisation, Isa Sanusi, in a statement in Abuja on Wednesday said the Nigerian authorities at both federal and state levels have repeatedly targeted human rights defenders, activists and journalists, by stifling dissenting voices and passing repressive legislation to restrict the civic space.

Sowore, Bakare and Jalingo have been in detention since August 2019 for expressing views critical of the government.

Despite meeting the stringent bail conditions, the Department of State Services has failed to obey a court order to release Sowore and Bakare.

Jalingo’s bail applications have also been repeatedly and unjustifiably rejected.

Programmes Manager, Amnesty International Nigeria, Seun Bakare said, “We consider Sowore, Jalingo and Bakare to be prisoners of conscience detained solely for exercising their human rights. The Nigerian authorities must drop all charges against them and release them immediately and unconditionally.”

He added, “Sowore, Jalingo and Bakare’s continued detention is a matter of shame for Nigeria. Their cases show just how far the authorities in Nigeria can go to silence their critics.

“The government of President Muhammadu Buhari needs to stop filing bogus and politically-motivated charges against critics, and start listening to what they have to say.”

The AI also asked the authorities to stop using the security agents and judiciary as a tool for persecuting people who voiced dissenting opinions, challenged abuse and call for accountability.

Sule Lamido: Jonathan Compromised Bayelsa Poll To Avoid Malabu Oil Scam Probe
User Avatar Forum: General Discussion
Posted by: Edoman - 11-21-2019, 06:32 AM - Replies (1)

Quote:A former governor of Jigawa State, Sule Lamido, has accused former President Goodluck Jonathan of working against the interest of his party, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the just-concluded governorship election in Bayelsa State.

In a short Facebook post sent by his media aide, Mansur Ahmed, the former governor said Mr Jonathan supported the ruling All Progressive Congress, APC candidate in order to avoid probe in the famous Malabu oil scam.

“And finally compromising Bayelsa State with the Malabo oil 1billion Dollar scam for his freedom!,” Mr Lamido posted.

Malabu Oil Deal

The Malabu oil scandal involved the transfer of about $1.1 billion by Shell and ENI through the Nigerian government to accounts controlled by a former Nigerian petroleum minister, Dan Etete.

About half the money ($520 million) went to accounts of companies controlled by Aliyu Abubakar, popularly known in Nigeria as the owner of AA oil, suspected to be fronting for top officials of government and Shell and ENI collaborators.

According to a PREMIUM TIMES report, the transaction was authorised in 2011 by Mr Jonathan through some of his cabinet ministers and the money was payment for OPL 245, one of Nigeria’s richest oil blocs.

Although Shell and ENI initially claimed they did not know the money would end up with Mr Etete and his cronies, evidence has shown that claim to be false.

Shell, Eni, Mr Etete, Mr Aliyu and several officials of the oil firms are being prosecuted in Italy for their roles in the scandal.A British judge had also said she was convinced the ‘fortunato’ referenced in various OPL 245 mails referred to Mr Jonathan.

Itse Sagay confirms arrest of ex Attorney-General of the Federation, Mohammed Adoke in Dubai

The arrest of former Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Mohammed Adoke has been confirmed by Chairman of the Presidential Advisory Committee against Corruption, Prof. Itse Sagay.

Sagay confirmed the arrest during a courtesy visit to the headquarters of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Wednesday, November 20th saying the arrest is the latest success in the fight against corruption under the federal government.

Adoke is facing criminal charges bordering on alleged abuse of office and money laundering with respect to the granting of the Oil Prospecting License (OPL) 245 to Shell and ENI, brought against him and four others by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission. His arrest follows a warrant issued by a Federal Capital Territory High Court in Abuja requested by the EFCC.

He added that the fight against corruption is gaining momentum under the Buhari-led Federal Government due to the fightback from its beneficiaries.

Quote:“The former attorney General Adoke has been arrested in Dubai. It’s a continuous thing, so when Nigerians pretend and say what is the difference this government has brought into the fight against corruption, what has been achieved? There is no difference, it amazes me. For me, it’s a sign of patent bad faith being expressed by the elite who were the beneficiaries of corruption.
“They are undergoing the pains of having to earn their living, rather than simply collecting easy money where people were building edifices without any sign of employment of any sort. There has been a lot of change and the EFCC activities are responsible for most of this change.”
The EFCC had obtained a warrant of arrest on April 17 against Adoke, as well as a former Minister of Petroleum Resources, Dan Etete, and four others over the OPL 245 scandal. It filed criminal charges against the defendants but decried it had been difficult for it to serve them the charges or produce them in court as a result of their absence from the country.  The court asked the EFCC in October, to serve the criminal charges to Mr. Adoke by substituted means, after lifting the initial warrant against the defendant due to their unavailability.

EFCC files fresh corruption and contract racketeering charges against Abdulrasheed Maina

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, today, November 20th arraigned Abdulrasheed Maina on a fresh charge of contract racketeering and stealing. He was docked before Justice Abubakar Kutigi of the Federal Capital Territory High Court sitting in Gwagwalada, Abuja.

The former chairman of the Pension Reform Task Team, was docked on a nine count charge alongside one Ann Igwe Olachi, who was his secretary.

Maina is alleged to have abused his position as chairman of the Pension Reform Task Team to award fictitious contracts for purported biometric enrollment of pensioners, an offense that is punishable under Section 317(read in conjunction with section 316) of the Penal Code Act, Cap532, vol. 4, Laws of the Federal Capital Territory of Nigeria, 2007.

Facts of the case indicate that “bogus” claims of fictitious allowances were also made by Maina and his cohorts in the course of the purported biometric enrolment assignment, while proceeds of the fictitious contracts were remitted into his account through the 2nd defendant.
When the matter was called today, prosecuting counsel M.S Abubakar informed the court that the matter was slated for arraignment and applied that charges be read to the defendants to take their pleas. When the charge was read, the defendants pleaded not guilty.

Quote:One of the counts reads, “That you ABDULRASHEED ABDULAHI MAINA and IGWE ANN OLACHI between December, 2010 and January, 2011 in Abuja, within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court dishonestly received an aggregate sum of N136,200,000(One Hundred and Thirty Six Million, Two Hundred Thousand Naira Only) from one Ibrahim Abdulkarim knowing that the said money was stolen from the Federal Government of Nigeria under the guise of payment of allowances”.

AKA, South Africans jubilate as organizers cancel Burna Boy's concert in the country

Just days before Burna Boy was set to perform in South Africa, organisers have announced that he has been withdrawn and the concerts in Cape Town and Tshwane cancelled.

In a media statement issued today, organisers said that after extensive engagement with Burna Boy’s management team, they had decided to withdraw the Nigerian artist from the concert and cancel the shows.

They said the decision to cancel the shows came after warnings of a shutdown from a group of artists and event organisers under the umbrella of Tshwane Entertainment Collective.

Quote:“The decision to cancel the Africans Unite Concert comes after the call from the Tshwane Entertainment Collective to boycott the Africans Unite concert in Tshwane.
With the increasing threats of violence from other unfortunate segments of the public and without any government intervention, Phambili Media and Play Network Africa were prompted to take the threats and warnings seriously, as the safety of all artists and attendees could not be guaranteed.
We then decided to cancel the concert. The safety of all attendees, artists and crew comes first.”

Burna Boy's inclusion on the line-up was widely criticised after rapper, AKA took to social media to lead a campaign against him.

See AKA's response and how other South Africans are reacting below....

Quote:#AKAsezi

Burna boy my brother we love your music, just humble yourself and apologize.
You NEED South Africa!

Just saying. pic.twitter.com/T0VHj31KuT
