26-year-old man drowns at National Stadium in Lagos

The Lagos State Police Command on Sunday confirmed the drowning of a 26-year-old man, Sodiq Yusuf, inside the National Stadium swimming pool, Surulere.

The Lagos Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Bala Elkana, in a statement said a team of policemen were immediately mobilised to the scene of the incident on receiving the report.

According to him, the victim was rescued and rushed to Randle General Hospital, Surulere, where he later died.

“The corpse has been deposited at the Mainland General Hospital morgue, Yaba for autopsy. “Investigation is ongoing,” NAN quoted him as saying.

Meanwhile, the police and other emergency agencies also rescued 11 passengers involved in a boat mishap at Itun Àgan community in Amuwo Odofin area of the state.

According to DSP Elkana, 13 passengers were on board a wooden boat fitted with 30HP Yamaha Engine, operated by one Mr Adesuyi John.

“The wooden boat allegedly collided with an NPA TUG Boat with the inscription: ‘Lárana and No 9252723,’ at Itun Àgan area, Amuwo Odofin.
“Consequently, the wooden boat capsized and the passengers got drowned.

“However, teams of marine policemen, firefighters, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) and other agencies swiftly mobilised to the scene.

“Eleven of the passengers were rescued alive while two others are still missing,” he said.

Elkana, however, said that a search and rescue operation was still ongoing.

Princess Nnenna Orji: I Wouldn't Marry An Older Man Like Regina Daniels
User Avatar Forum: Other Stories
Posted by: Edoman - 11-24-2019, 08:19 PM - No Replies

Quote:Nollywood actress, Princess Nnenna Orji has assured her fans that she will never marry an older man like her colleague, Regina Daniels.

In this exclusive interview, the Abia State-born thespian revealed what she desires in a man. Enjoy it.

What are you currently working on?

I am working on my own movie, and I just started off with my clothing line, Prom Culture.

Tell us about the most challenging movie you’ve done?

My most challenging movie is the most recent one. In it, I had to switch to a different person entirely. It is titled, Rough Diamond.

What is your best advice for someone who just joined the movie industry?

I’m still an up and coming actress, but the best advice I’ll give to a person just coming into the industry is: be yourself.

Which actors do you look up to as your role models?

For me, it still has to be Genevieve. She’s an actress I will really love to work with, because she’s no longer thinking Nollywood, she’s thinking Hollywood. Another actress I’ll love to work with is Adesua (Wellington). Adesua has been my crush from the onset, but my number one is Genevieve. I’m not just in Nollywood now, I see myself in Hollywood.

What should your fans expect from you now that you’ve transformed to an adult actor?

My fans should expect the best from me, better than what I gave them as a child actor.

What’s your fond memory as a kid actor?

I will always say the kind of money and fame I got then was really interesting. But I can’t go back in time because you have to keep moving forward.

How does it feel coming back to the industry after acquiring a degree?

It feels very exciting. The movie industry has always been a home for me even when I’m not there. Taking a break from the industry is the best thing that ever happened to me. Although, coming back was not easy, it takes God’s grace. I had to go around reminding people that I’m back.

How would you compare the industry now and then?

The industry is much better now. A lot of new things have happened, and new faces have emerged. It is really competitive now, but I think the only person you should compete with is yourself, because that’s who you really need to work on. Once you start competing with another person, hate is bound to set in.

What’s the craziest thing a fan has done to you?

The craziest thing a fan has done to me was carrying and spinning me around. I was surprised and thought I was being kidnapped.

Has any producer tried to sexually harass you?

I give them the impression that ‘you don’t need to come here, it’s a no go area’. I’m not rude but I’m very disciplined.

Who are the actors you have crush on?

Having a crush with someone does not mean you will do something crazy with that person. If I’m alone in a room with my crush, I’ll just be blushing that ‘oh my God, I’m in the same room with this person’, but I would not think about anything extraordinary or negative.

Sex for role, have you had a personal experience?

You eat what you get served. If you give the impression that you are in the industry to exchange roles for sex, then that’s what you’ll get. But when you give the impression that you’re serious, you know what you are doing, that’s what they’ll give you.

What is your unique selling point as an actress?

My beauty has been my major selling point, because I can’t say I have the greatest height or the greatest body.

Rumours have it that Somadina Adinma started dating you because his then girlfriend, Regina Daniels dumped him?

Somadina and I are very close friends, we went to the same school and we’ve both been acting since we were very young. I cannot say it’s true, I cannot say it’s not true. My answer is I’m in a relationship; I’m not in a relationship. That’s the best way to answer the question because if you say you are in a relationship, they start asking who the person is. Let me leave people to their opinion until they see anything.

Would you marry an older man like Regina Daniels?

No, I can’t go that far. Regina Daniels did what she did for reasons best known to her. That’s what she wanted for herself and I respect her decision so much, but I wouldn’t do that, I’m an understanding person.

What do you desire in a man?

First of all, I desire a God fearing man. I need someone that will understand me and go along with me, not someone that will ask me to dump my career. I’m not looking for a wealthy man; he should just be comfortable enough to take care of my children and me. But he must be richer than me.

Lagos police recover N705,000 from rogue officers

The Lagos State Police Command has arrested five police officers who extorted N705,000 from Kareem Jamiu, a 29-year-old resident of Sagamu, Ogun State last week.

Bala Elkana, the spokesperson of the Lagos Police Command, announced that the money has been returned to Mr Jamiu and the officers involved in the extortion are being held in custody and will soon be made to face appropriate disciplinary actions.

The officers were arrested after Mr Jamiu reported the extortion to the Rule of Law and Accountability Advocacy Centre (RULAAC), a civil society group who petitioned the police hierarchy to help retrieve the money.

Narrating how he was extorted, Mr Jamiu told PREMIUM TIMES that five police officers who claimed to be from the disbanded Inspector General of Police Special Tactical Squad, allegedly accosted him close to his residence near NNPC Sagamu and accused him of being a cultist and an internet fraudster because they saw the photograph of a Caucasian lady on his phone.

Quote:“I have a lady I’m dating in America normally, and the lady has been to Nigeria before. I tried to explain to them, I know her family members and she also knows all my family members,” Jamiu said.
He said his explanation fell on deaf ears. The policemen subsequently took him from Sagamu to a school opposite the Lagos Police Command, in Ikeja, a distance of 45 kilometres where they extorted him.

He said he originally agreed to give the policemen the N100,000 they demanded before he could be set free. But upon searching his phone the policemen saw he had more money left in his account and they subsequently forced him to part with N705,000.00.
Quote:“They took me to the nearest filling station around the police street at ikeja state command to make use of my card for withdrawal,” said Jamiu, who confirmed that the police had returned the money extorted from him by the rogue officers.

Armed robbery suspects 'arrested' by Lagos residents after their gun hooked during a car-snatching operation

Two armed robbery suspects identified as 40-year-old Abbey Kolawole and 30-year-old Ikenna Eze were apprehended by residents of Shagari Estate residents in Iyana Ipaja area of Lagos State on Friday November 22, after a failed car-snatching operation.

The members of  Aiye and Eiye Confraternities accosted two occupants of the target vehicle with their gang leader Femi now at large. It was gathered that Femi who held the gun fired the first shot and attempted to fire a second shot at the car's occupants who refused to alight, but the locally made double barrel gun hooked.

Quote:“By this time, the residents of the area had emerged to check what was happening. The robbers fled in different directions and abandoned their gun.
“Kolawole and Eze were unfortunate as the people they were scaling their fences caught them and handed them over to Rapid Response Squad (RRS) operatives who intercepted distress call of robbery in the area,” the police said.

Confessing to the crime, Eze told newsmen that Femi invited them to kill one of the occupants of the car who threatened him.

Quote:“The man came to Femi’s house in Agege Abbattoir with many cult members and threatened to kill Femi. So, Femi invited us to his house so that he would deal with the man first.
“The plan was to shoot the man in the leg but after firing the first shot into the air, the gun hooked and before he could reload it, residents came out and were moving towards us.
“Femi was the one who knew the road. He escaped while we, strangers in that community were arrested,” he said.

The suspects have been handed over to Gowon Police Station in Ipaja for prosecution.

42-year-old Temitope Akinola has been arrested by the Ogun State Police Command for killing her two-day-old granddaughter by poisoning by her with an insecticide, Sniper.

Akinola was arrested following the complaint the baby's mother filed with the police. The distraught lady reportedly went to bath and returned to see a lifeless body of her baby she left with her mother.

Quote:“Upon the information, the DPO Shagamu division, SP Okiki Agunbiade, detailed his detectives to the scene where the killer grandmother was promptly arrested,” Ogun policer spokesperson, Mr Abimbola Oyeyemi said.

The grandmother who admitted killing her grandchild said she did it because she never liked the man her daughter had the baby for. She said she tried to terminate her daughter's pregnancy but was warned against doing such by her Pastor.

Akinola told the police upon being interrogated that she decided to wait till the baby was born before carrying out her plan.

She has been transferred to the homicide section of the state criminal investigation and intelligence department for further investigation and prosecution, while the corpse of the baby has been deposited at Olabisi Onabanjo teaching hospital mortuary for autopsy.

Dickson Appoints 35 Permanent Secretaries, APC Kicks
User Avatar Forum: General Discussion
Posted by: Edoman - 11-24-2019, 06:44 PM - No Replies

Mike Odiegwu, Yenagoa

The All Progressives Congress (APC), Bayelsa State, has queried the decision of the state Governor, Seriake Dickson, to appoint 35 permanent secretaries three months to the end of his administration.
Dickson at the weekend inaugurated 35 permanent secretaries and a Commissioner, Mr. Felix Sam-Ateki and charged them to work with the incoming administration to ensure full implementation of the civil service reforms.

The governor said his administration would soon receive the formal report of the reforms which he noted would be one of the key documents to be handed over to the next government.

While congratulating the new permanent secretaries on their appointment, Dickson called on them to avoid partisan politics and focus on the execution of policies and programmes of government.

He said: “As you go to your various Ministries, Departments and Agencies to ensure the public/civil service is programmed and made ready to work and support policies and programmes of the next administration, you are not to dabble into the political squabbles of the day.

“You are not to be part of the dust of political conflicts . I charge you all to maintain neutrality and focus on the execution of the policies and programmes of government.

“I urge you all and the entire civil service to brace up to execute the policies of the government of the day loyally and as ably as you can.”

But the APC in a statement signed by its State Secretary, Alabo Martins, chided the governor saying that the party was aware of many clandestine indiscriminate employment going on across various MDAs without recourse to due process.

He said while they were not averse to such appointments, especially if they were in tandem with civil service rules and regulations, they had their reservations with regard to the timing of the appointments.

Martins said: “If the outgoing administration was aware of the existence of these vacancies in the top echelon of the public service of the state and that the situation was creating a lull in the service, why were the vacancies left unfilled until the eventide of the administration.

“No doubt, the appointments are in bad taste just as the motive is clearly political and an effort to put the popular in coming government on a bad light by ensuring that we are financially transgulated.

“We appreciate the fact that until February 14, 2020, the present administration has the constitutional powers to hire and fire but this responsibility should be carried out in the best interest of the state and its people. We must say that the present scenario is just for the satisfaction of some political interests and therefore falls far short of the wider interests of the state.

“We advise the Government to concentrate on completing uncompleted projects, such as the 8year old Isaac Boro express way. We also call on bayelsans to hold the restoration government response in the future if some of these decisions are reviewed for the betterment of bayelsa

“We are aware that employment is a means of empowering citizens of the state, mostly the youths. It curtails restiveness and other social vices in the state.

However, the employment of the the restoration government does not follow acceptable procedures, apart from the Forest Officers and few others.

“The government did not lift embargo on employment until January this year when one thousand graduates were employed. But, pockets of employment were carried out from time to time with names directly forwarded by His Excellency the outgoing governor”.

Martins said the appointments were supposed to be on geographical spread to the eight local governments areas but that they were one-sided with some local councils having more than others.

“The rules and procedures do not allow applicants to apply for employment directly to the Governor. But, this is practice in the state. Integration of officers from the plastic industry was haphazardly done. It created avenue for irregularities in the system which allows illegal employments into the civil service.

“This created irregular transfer of officers from one organisation or establishments to another under the governor’s directives. The officers are moved without promotions and were stagnated on grade level for example environmental sanitation authority staff moved to SUBEB, and from SUBEB to civil service. Then from SSSB/Radio Bayelsa etc to the international institute of tourism and hospitality and to the civil service.

“Transferring officers to MDAS without considering the promotion prospects and headship of department by deserving or serving officers.

No vacancy is sort in the relevant grade and cadre before the transfer is effected.

No proper applications and routing of letters by applicants before transfers are effected for some officers”, he said.

Nollywood actress Anita Joseph has called out her best friend Uche Elendu, went as far as asking if she was a witch over an issue they had over hair.

Anita Joseph shared a video on her social media page where she stated all she has done for Uche Elendu who was her best friend before they had an issue around her advertising the hair from another brand other than hers.

She decided to shed light on the issue that started after Anita advertised a hair on her page which was not that of Uche Elendu her best friend which she has always advertised on her platform. According to her, Uche reached out to her saying she shouldn't have advertised the hair because people will start thinking her hair is not original.

This led to a big fight between the two and Anita is now asking if she is a witch because only a witch would not want her friend to prosper.

She claims she isn't her brand ambassador, has never gotten one hair for free from her, instead she has bought hair worth more than 1 million naira which she paid in installments. She said Uche should be ashamed of herself for not giving her even one hair, only claiming she gave her the hair at discounted rates.

A police officer attached to the Igando Police Division has been shot dead by his colleague said to be a mobile policeman during a free-for-all along Lasu-Igando Road.

It was gathered that the killer cop shot into the air to disperse the crowd, killing his colleague and injuring a ride-hailing motorcyclist in the process. It was gathered that a police team from the division had mobilised to a section of the road around 4:00pm on Saturday to arrest motorcyclists plying prohibited routes and riding against traffic.

It was learnt that trouble started when the team arrested a commercial motorcyclist (popularly known as okada rider) for allegedly breaking the traffic rule. The rider was said to have resisted arrest and struggled with the policemen, who wanted to seize his bike. In the ensuing altercation, a crowd, who believed the policemen wanted to extort the rider gathered and started hurling objects at them.

An eyewitness, Kunle Gbadamosi, said the armed mobile policeman cocked his gun and shot into the air, resulting in his colleague’s death. He said, “I was on a bus en route to Igando from Iyana-Iba when I chanced on the incident. It caused traffic and I decided to alight from the bus. I saw a policeman lying lifeless on the floor. There was confusion everywhere. “I learnt that some policemen were trying to arrest motorcyclists riding against the traffic and on prohibited routes. One of the motorcyclists they were trying to arrest resisted and his co-riders rallied round him because they felt the policemen wanted to extort him.

“One mobile policeman, who was trying to assist the policemen to get out of the situation, cocked and fired into the air to disperse the crowd. He shot and killed a policeman in the process.”  A police source, who is privy to the crisis, said the motorcyclist refused to let go of his bike knowing that he might not get it back.

Quote:The source said, “Usually, when such a motorcycle is seized, it will be taken to the task force office and the owner won’t be able to get it again. So, the motorcyclist fought to retain his bike and he got support from a crowd.
“While he was struggling with the policemen, the crowd started pelting them with objects. The mobile policeman fired a gunshot to chase them away but unfortunately, the bullet hit his colleague and another motorcyclist driving against traffic. The policeman died on the spot but the rider was rushed to a hospital. He was injured in the leg.”
It took a reinforcement led by the Divisional Police Officer of Igando Police Station, CSP Taiwo Kasumu, to restore normalcy to the area. Police Public Relations Officer in the state, DSP Bala Elkana, said the command had launched a manhunt for the motorcyclist, who fought with the police team.
Quote:He said, “Our policemen on enforcement on the ban of okada on some prohibited routes in Lagos arrested two motorcyclists – an O’Pay rider and an okada rider, who is an OPC (Oodua Peoples Congress) member. He (the OPC member) was struggling with the team and mobilised people to attack them.
“While that was going on, the team and a mobile policeman with them were under serious threat. One of those people pushed the mobile policeman and he cocked his rifle. Unfortunately, he killed his colleague and injured a motorcyclist. We have commenced investigation into the matter.”

Osun Islamic cleric accused of raping teenager re-arrested

Abdulrahman Habeebulah, the Islamic who was made headlines in July for raping a 16-year-old girl attending his Qu’ranic school in Ede community of Osun State has been re-arrested by police after the case was re-opened.

The suspect whose trial was initially stalled after he claimed the girl was his wife though not denying the rape allegation, was discharged without any compensation for the victim after her family opted for an out-of-court settlement. He was also not able to provide evidence of the marriage which was debunked by the girl and her family.

Premium Times reported that the elder brother of the victim, Muideen Oloyede confirmed that the case was re-opened and transferred to the state criminal investigation department in Osogbo after his family was summoned by the police.

Quote:“The police said they got a signal when we went there last week. Although they did not show us the signal, we were told it was owing to a series of petitions the IGP got,” he said.
“I’ve spent a lot on the case till the point that I already gave up. Since the family had earlier opted for a settlement, I was disappointed and handed over everything to God.”

It was gathered that Mr Abdulrahman was re-arrested on Thursday November 21, following a petition written by a human rights group, RULAAC.

Nigeria police spokesperson, Frank Mba said the group had written them demanding the re-arrest and prosecution of the Islamic cleric for rape.

Quote:“Nwanguma is really following up that case,” Mr Mba

Anti-trafficking agency, NAPTIP is also conducting its investigation on the case.

14 houses set ablaze in Taraba State over change of a school’s name

No fewer than 14 houses were said to have been burnt and two people injured following an attack on Dan-Anacha Village under Gassol Local Government Area of Taraba State.

Local residents said trouble started during the week following the directive of Governor Darius Ishaku that the name of the secondary school in the community be changed from Dan-Anacha to Kwararafa.

Kelvin Katyo of Taraba Tiv Youth Council said that the governor had on November 15, 2019 in a letter through the Executive Secretary, post-School Management Board, directed the name change which did not go down well with the members of the community.

According to him, pupils of the school, who were not comfortable with the name change staged a protest demanding that the governor revert the decision. But they were attacked by irate youths.

Quote:Katyo said, “The Chief of Tiv in Gassol, Zaki Erentsa Simon, had prevailed on the Tiv people in the town to remain calm after the protest. But in the night, some people suspected to be Governor Ishaku’s sympathizers, attacked and burnt 14 houses belonging to the Tiv people in the town.
“We wonder why the governor is doing what he is doing now. We don’t need a name change now because it will escalate tension in the state.”

Crowd boo Lai Mohammed on stage at the 6th Afrima awards in Lagos

A mild drama ensued at the 6th All Africa Music Awards (AFRIMA) as the Minister for Information and Culture; Alhaji Lai Mohammed was treated to a cacophony of boos and catcalls while delivering a speech on the stage.

About halfway through proceedings, the Minister was invited to make his speech and as soon as he appeared from backstage, a section of the crowd, mostly made up of youths who sat in the regular ticket section started booing him, drowning his voice and rendering his speech almost totally inaudible.

Amid the boos, jeers and catcalls, some people in the crowd could be heard shouting “go and sit down”, “liar”, “na lie”, and other derogatory calls.

Immediately after the speech, Alhaji Lai Mohammed was seen leaving the hall and headed straight for his waiting vehicle. He was seen off by some officials of AFRIMA who walked with him briskly to the exit.

RHAPSODY OF REALITIES

SUNDAY, 24TH NOVEMBER.

SANCTIFICATION OF THE MESSENGER

If a man therefore purge himself from these, he shall be a vessel unto honour, sanctified, and meet for the master’s use, and prepared unto every good work (2 Timothy 2:21).

Being a Christian, you’ve been commissioned to preach the Gospel; to take the message of God’s saving power to your world and beyond. The Bible says you’ve been enriched by Him in all utterance (1 Corinthians 1:5), letting you know that you’re equipped for the job.

Nevertheless, as a preacher or one ordained to bear His message of divine life, the way you deliver it has a lot to do with the quality of your personality, such that the result is either positive or negative, impactful or unimpactful.

Our opening scripture says, “If a man therefore purge (sanctify) himself from these, he shall be a vessel unto honour….” To be “sanctified” means to be separated or set apart unto God for His sacred use.

It begins with the sanctification of the messenger; sanctifying the vessel. If the heart and mind of the one who bears the message aren’t renewed and purified by the Word, it doesn’t matter what message he’s carrying; it’s corrupted. Soon enough what influences his personality will come to the fore, and the Christ-nature will be hidden behind the “ugly” frame.

This is why you must be fully yielded to the Word of God to mould your life and character. None of us was made for “dishonour”; each one of us has been raised for His glory, but you can decide if you’re going to be a vessel of honour or a vessel of dishonour, by the kind of life that you live.

But thanks be unto God! He’s granted each of us the ability to lead a life of righteousness and true holiness, and qualified us to be effective ministers of the Gospel of His grace: “[It is He] Who has qualified us [making us to be fit and worthy and sufficient] as ministers and dispensers of a new covenant [of salvation through Christ], not [ministers] of the letter (of legally written code) but of the Spirit; for the code [of the Law] kills, but the [Holy] Spirit makes alive” (2 Corinthians 3:6 AMPC). Therefore, live up to your calling.

PRAYER

Dear heavenly Father, it’s an honour to be part of the great ministry of reconciliation. I’ve been sanctified through the ministry of your Word and the Spirit to do your will and fulfil your destiny for my life. I lead a life of righteousness and true holiness, bringing many to the same life of glory, through my words and character, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.

#TALKINGSESSION

24TH NOVEMBER.

KINDLY SAY THESE WORDS OUT LOUD.

Dear Heavenly Father, I thank You, for enlightening the eyes of my understanding through Your Word. I've received all the favours and benefits You’ve ordained for me today.

Thank You for guiding me by Your Spirit, to think like You and see things from Your perspective, and not merely from the natural standpoint. I am seated together with Christ in heavenly places, ruling and reigning with Him.

Now and always, I function from the vantage position of peace, and dominion in Christ. Hallelujah.

The lines are fallen unto me in pleasant places, and the land is subdued before me. I am the seed of Abraham, I am making my way prosperous, making progress, and dealing wisely in all my affairs because Your Word propels and inspires the right actions in me always.

The good Word of the Lord is fulfilled in me today, and every step I take is a step of blessings. I am blessed, and everywhere my name is called, it is for increase and promotion, in the Name of the Lord Jesus. Amen.

God bless you

Passenger train crushes pregnant woman to death in Abia
November 24, 2019

A COMMERCIAL train passing through a community in Abia State knocked down and ran over a yet-to-be identified woman who is suspected to be pregnant.

The incident which happened along the rail line at Obuda community left residents in shock as eyewitnesses claimed it was the first time such a thing will happen in the area.

The woman, whose house is said to be located some kilometres to the scene of the incident, was said to be heading for the city centre to shop for what her family would eat this weekend.

The commercial motorcyclist carrying her was said to have escaped unhurt.

Sources told our reporter that the husband of the deceased and her relations hurriedly came and evacuated her body to avoid the railway Police from taking custody of her remains, which may either cost the family more money before it could be released for burial.

An eyewitness who gave his name as Mark told our reporter that it was shocking to watch the body of the young woman in her early or mid-forties, being dragged and decapitated by the moving train.

Mark blamed the accident on the commercial motorcyclist whom many accused of reckless and dangerous driving.

“I was not that far from the accident scene. I was coming from the other end of Uratta road off Port Harcourt road. Keke and other bikes parked on both sides of the road when they noticed that the train was close. Suddenly, this guy emerged from nowhere and before you could say Jack, the train was on the woman. People were saying that they overhead the woman hitting on the guy to stop.

But it was too late. It was out of fear that she jumped out of the bike, but it was too late for any miracle to happen. The train dismembered her legs and ripped open her skull from the back. Early caller to the scene managed to lift up her decapitated body to see if there could be anyone that knows her.

“The Okada man ran away, but I think people know him. It was alleged that he (commercial motorcyclist) was listening to music or radio using a headphone.

It hasn’t been long when the husband and the relatives of the woman came to remove her body before policemen from railway cames. You know that if the railway police evacuate the body, they will find it hard to secure her body for burial,” Mark stated.

Another road user who gave his name as Gilbert bemoaned reckless driving of motorists and motorcyclists after its rehabilitation the federal government.

Gilbert and others however called on the railway authorities to ensure that they keep an official that will monitor traffic compliance by the motorists at the place.

$44.9m wire deals: EFCC special panel to investigate Air Peace boss Onyema

• Two banks for probe too as agency gets charges • US moves to seize $14.2m in airline chief's accounts
November 24, 2019

Yusuf Alli, Managing Editor, Northern Operation and Kelvin Osa-Okunbor

THE Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has waded into the $44.9 million wire fraud and money laundering case against Air Peace Chief Executive Allen Ifechukwu Athan Onyema hours after his indictment in the United States (US).

The EFCC, it was learnt, on Saturday raised what sources referred to as a ”special panel” to investigate the matter shortly after receiving the charges against Onyema.

Onyema was indicted along with his finance officer, Ejiroghene Eghagha, by the US Department of Justice (DoJ).

They were accused of “moving more than $20 million from Nigeria through some United States banks in a scheme involving false documents based on the purchase of airplanes.”

Eghagha, who is the international airline’s Chief of Administration and Finance, was also accused of bank fraud and committing aggravated identity theft in connection with the scheme.

The EFCC is also investigating two Nigerian banks for allegedly facilitating the transfer of the money to the US and processing letters of credit to buy planes for Air Peace.

The probe, The Nation gathered, would cover the activities and inflows into the accounts of four non-governmental organisations (NGOs) /non-profit groups sponsored by Onyema.

They are Foundation for Ethnic Harmony, International Centre for Non-Violence and Peace Development, All-Time Peace Media Communications Limited and Every Child Limited.

Onyema has since denied the allegations against him and stated his readiness to travel to the US to defend himself.

His lawyer, A. O. Alegeh, said in a statement in Lagos, at the weekend,  that Onyema “strongly denies and will vigorously defend himself against the allegations made against him by the US Attorney in Atlanta, Georgia in relation to the purchase of aircraft, aircraft spares and aircraft maintenance”.

The US government is seeking the forfeiture of  $14,246,536.6million left in some accounts linked with Onyema in the US and Canada.

The funds comprise $4,017,852.51 in JP Morgan Chase Bank in the US and $4,593,842.05 and $5,634,842.04 in the Bank of Montreal, Canada.

One of the legs of the EFCC probe is to ascertain whether Onyema is fronting for some politically exposed persons in the country.

A source said: “Upon the receipt of the charges, the EFCC chairman raised a team to probe the allegations against Onyema  Eghagha, who were prominently mentioned in the indictment charges by the United States Government.

“The EFCC team is working on what I may term the ‘Nigerian components’ of the indictment including suspicious huge transfer of funds abroad, alleged abuse of letters of credit and money laundering.

“In fact, the Acting EFCC Chairman, Mr. Ibrahim Magu directed the team members to work round the clock at the weekend because it is a case we must work on with speed.

“We are also interested in the roles played by two banks in the country including one that has been on our radar for a while for money laundering. This same bank was implicated in the $115million poll bribery scam in 2015 for which former Minister of Petroleum Resources Diezani Alison-Madueke is wanted for trial.

“We need to act because in the indictment, the US indicated its plans to freeze some funds linked with Onyema in some accounts within and outside its jurisdiction. It is standard practice to have collaboration with sister organisations all over the world.  We cannot wait till the last minutes before playing our roles.”

Responding to a question, the source added: “Certainly, our crack team will conduct a comprehensive investigation into the activities and remittances into the accounts of the four non-governmental organisations (NGOs) /non-profit groups of Onyema.

“Our immediate suspicion is that these four groups are likely to be tools for money laundering. The Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC), tax bodies and other agencies will assist on the status of these organisations.

“We have directed our detectives to ascertain or otherwise if Onyema is allegedly serving as a front for some politically exposed persons (PEPs).”

The source added: “The EFCC may also investigate other persons or groups that have assisted Onyema in one way or the other on the allegations against him. The indictment spoke of known and unknown persons.”

In the charges against Onyema and Eghagha, they were accused of using the money to buy luxury cars, including a Rolls Royce for $180,000 and Mercedes for $88, 500 among others.

Onyema was also said to have spent thousands of dollars on personal purchases at Atlanta Georgia locations of Prada, Neiman Marcus, Macy’s, Louis Vuitton, the Apple Store and various airlines.

It was alleged that the total amount Onyema spent on aircraft acquisition for his airline exceeded $3million.

Onyema: I’m not dubious

Airline magnate Alex Onyema  yesterday said it is not in his character to be dubious, describing the fraud allegations against him as false.

In a statement in Lagos, he said: ”Thank you for reaching out to me. I can confirm to you that all allegations are false and are in no way in line with my character as a person and as a business man whose only aim has been to build Nigeria and improve wellbeing.

”As the press statement clearly stated,  these are indictment that only contains charges.  I am innocent of all charges and the US government will find NO dirt on me because I have never conducted business with any illegalities.

”Be rest assured that I also have my lawyers on this and these mere allegations will be refuted. I never laundered money in my life, neither have I committed bank fraud anywhere in the world. Every Kobo I transferred to the US for aircraft purchase went through the Central Bank of Nigeria Letter of Credit regime and all were used for the same purpose. The American companies that received the funds are still in business. I never took a penny from any US bank or Nigerian bank. I am willing to defend my innocence in the US courts”.

Allegations unfounded, strange, says lawyer

Embattled Air Peace Chief Alex Onyema yesterday denied the fraud allegations against him.

His lawyer, A. O. Alegeh in a statement in Lagos said: “On behalf of Allen Onyema, we hereby state that he strongly denies and will vigorously defend himself against the allegations made against him by the US Attorney in Atlanta, Georgia in relation to purchase of Aircraft, Aircraft spares and Aircraft maintenance. None of the allegations involve any third party funds but relate to his funds utilised in the Airline business. There is no allegation that any Bank [in the United States, Nigeria or elsewhere], company or individual suffered any financial or any loss whatsoever.

“The allegations are unfounded and strange to him. Allen Onyema has a track record built on honesty and integrity and will take all necessary steps to clear his good name and hard earned reputation. He looks forward to an opportunity to rebut these allegations in Court.”

Airline’s finance chief refutes allegations

Air Peace Executive Director Mrs. Ejiro Eghagha yesterday denied allegations of money laundering levelled against her in the United States.

In a statement, her lawyer A.O Alegeh said: “On behalf of Mrs Ejiro Eghagha, we hereby state that she strongly denies and will vigorously defend herself against the allegations made against her by the US Attorney in Atlanta, Georgia in relation to purchase of aircraft, aircraft spares and aircraft maintenance for her employer.

None of the allegations involve any third party funds but relate to funds belonging to her employer and utilized in the airline business. There is no allegation that any Bank [in the United States, Nigeria or elsewhere], Company or individual suffered any financial or any loss whatsoever.

“The allegations are unfounded and strange to her. Mrs Ejiro Eghagha has built her reputation as a seasoned, honest and responsible person and will take all necessary steps to clear her good name and hard earned reputation.   Egodi Uchendu: UNN ‘Witchcraft’ Conference Will Hold, Christians Can’t Stop It

IgbereTV reports that despite the cancellation of the booked venue for a witchcraft conference to be held in Enugu state, the organisers insist that they are proceeding as planned and will announce a new venue soon. Director of the B.I.C Ijomah Centre for Policy Studies and Research, Professor Egodi Uchendu, made this news available to IgbereTV. He said that the protest and campaign by the Christian Association of Nigeria and Christian students in the University of Nigeria (UNN), Nsukka will not deter them from holding the academic conference. “Freedom of speech is a fundamental human right. CAN and others are free to express their opinions just like we have the freedom to have an academic conference on witchcraft”, Mrs Uchendu, a professor of history said. “I’m delighted that the conference is generating the debate it should across the nation. Nigerians should look critically into the subject of the conference and identify how it’s impeding our national existence and personal experience”. She absolved the UNN of blame for the cancellation of the booking for Energy Centre, as venue for the conference, billed to begin 26 November.

She said the centre is owned by the Federal Government and is domiciled in the UNN. Prof Uchendu said; “UNN DID NOT deny us use of Energy Centre. Energy Centre did. Energy Centre is a Federal organ domiciled in UNN. It’s not controlled by UNN. Their decision to deny us their venue may not even be known to UNN”. The conference on witchcraft has generated controversy since it was announced that it would take place in UNN Nsukka.

Students, believing that witches and wizards would descend on UNN, during the conference, printed posters decrying the plan. They were joined by the Christian Association of Nigeria, which escalated the opposition and urged Christians in the South East zone to embark on prayers to dissuade the organisers from holding the conference. Chairman of CAN in the South-East zone, Bishop Dr Goddy Okafor demanded that the programme be called off immediately. Okafor said; “I call on all Heads of Blocks, State Chairmen and other Stakeholders of Christian Association of Nigeria South-East Zone to take up aggressive prayers against the planned convention of Witches and Wizards slated to hold on November 26 at UNN. “This convention is not of God and must not hold in Jesus name. Exodus 22:18 says, ‘Thou shalt not suffer a witch to live’. “I hereby direct, all Christian Churches in South East of Nigeria to take up lamentation and pray against this evil movement in all our churches this coming Sunday. “I also call upon all Christian Campus Fellowship Groups and other Christian Students’ Associations to join in this effort and stand up for JESUS CHRIST OUR LORD against this evil development in South East Of NIGERIA.”

A Nigerian couple have become new parents after they welcomed a set of quintuplets, three boys and two girls, 16 years after they got married.

Mr and Mrs Egenti have been waiting for the fruit of the womb since they tied the knot in 2003. After many years of waiting, they tried several medical options including IVF, all to no avail. However, Mrs Egenti, an indigene of Anambra state, said she miraculously took in and after completing the mandatory 9-months gestation period, she welcomed her babies at the National Hospital Abuja.

Speaking from her hospital bed, 44-year-old Mrs Susan Egenti, a trader in Abuja, said

Quote: “I have been married since 2003 with no children, not even to get pregnant and have a miscarriage. Every time we attend a child dedication either in our church or elsewhere, I always come home crying, praying for the day God will have mercy on me and grant me the fruit of the womb''.

'He promised to make me the next Aaliyah' - Rkelly's alleged sex slave Joycelyn Savage opens up

One of R. Kelly's alleged sex slaves and live-in girlfriends is speaking up on the nature of her relationship with the jailed singer.

Joycelyn Savage who is believed to have been under R. Kelly's control for years took to Instagram on Saturday, to state that she's partnered with a paid-content site called Patreon to put out her side of the story, despite breaking an NDA she says she's signed.

Quote:In her words, "I am risking my life for many others. ?This story is 18+ and only for mature audience. I want to make sure my story is very detailed as I can remember."
Joycelyn however seems to be throwing R. Kelly under the bus in her initial recounting and is airing his dirty laundry. She gets into how she met him at a concert when she was 17, going on to say that it was a fun experience that left her with "mixed emotions."

Joycelyn also claimed that R. Kelly promised her a music career, stating that he'd make her the next Aaliyah. She then goes on say that she dropped out of college and moved in with him, but says things turned ugly fairly quickly as he allegedly became incredibly controlling.
Quote:"After these couple of months Robert started giving me commands, and making sure I call him by certain names. Like 'Master' or 'Daddy' which I didn’t really care for at the time." She continues, "If I wasn’t getting paid or pursuing my dream I would’ve went home, but all of that didn’t stop just yet."
Joycelyn adds, "But It started getting worse by day by day, he would raise his voice at me if I didn’t call him by those two names. If Robert called me I would have to reply with ‘Yes, daddy’ or 'Please daddy' he was so controlling."
She then claims R. Kelly threatened to end her career if she ever left him or tried talking to her parents in private. Joycelyn claims R. Kelly said, "all this can stop today, you want a career? Or do you want to live a normal life."

R. Kelly is currently incarcerated and facing several sex abuse charges from different states.

The party must not die after my tenure - President Buhari tells APC leaders

President Buhari has charged the leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to work hard to ensure that the party survives beyond the end of his tenure in 2023.

The President, who spoke at the meeting of the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the party in Abuja, said that history would be unkind to the party leaders if the party collapses at the end of his administration.

He also said the party leaders have a responsibility to make the party attractive to their constituents, saying that “anybody who fails to maintain the respect of his constituents and is thrown out, it is his problem.

Quote:“Like the chairman has said, all those who left us to the upper house, none of them were voted by his constituents. You want to take our people for granted, but they know what they are doing, The aim is that, as I mentioned yesterday, history will not be fair to us outright if the APC collapses at the end of this term.
“History will be fair to us if the APC remains strong and not only holds the centre but makes gains. People will reflect with nostalgia that once upon a time, the builders of APC made a lot of sacrifices, worked very hard.
“The sacrifices are physical, material and moral to make sure that we maintain the leadership, politically, of this system. This is what we should all aim at and ensure that our constituencies understand us and follow us to this great objective.
“What we did for you the executive, NWC is bottom to top. You must make sure that people elected to be responsible from polling units to wards to local governments to states and here are respected in their respective constituencies.
“This is the only way we can make this party survive. This is the only way history will be kind to us that we have led with absolute concern for the country and for the people. If for any other reason you divide the party at any constituency and it causes failure, then be prepared that history will not recognize you as a leader at any level at any time.”
Speaking further, the President noted that the relationship between the executive arm of government and the legislature under the current dispensation has been commendable, noting that the National Assembly had been cooperative, which he said had allowed the administration to make remarkable progress.
Quote:He said: “Yesterday, I had to mention our relationship. And when I say ‘our’, I mean the executive and the legislature. And I was constrained to tell you there was a time I called the Senate President and the Leader of the House and told them that to sit on a budget for seven months is not politics nor is it hurting the President, whoever he is. It is hurting the country and the people we swore by the books we believe in, to serve them whole-heartedly.
“For that reason, I was pleased to mention yesterday that the 9th Assembly, you can see and read in the papers, they have shown so much commitment; they sit down on important issues and we make a lot of progress. This relationship, we will try and maintain because there are a lot of things that will not go public.
“We cannot allow those things to go public. But I want to tell you that we are making a lot of progress and what people fail to do is to appreciate the progress that this administration has made; what we inherited when we came in 2015.”

He said that the SBC and regular border control officers were patrolling with the aim of enforcing adequate border security and control, while human mobility was regulated in line with Federal Government’s directives.

The CG congratulated the team at Kongolam for being alive to their duty and operating a water tight control which was a well organised patrol along the Flanks. A mother of two, Mrs Janet Idowu Jegede, has been arrested by men of Ekiti State Police Command for allegedly killing her husband.

Mrs Jegede, said to be a professional nurse, reportedly stabbed Mr. Jegede, who was in his sixties to death with the aid of a knife over an unknown issue.

The young woman in her thirties, believed to be a second wife to the deceased, who had older children from another woman, including a medical doctor, allegedly killed the man in their home, located in Alafiatayo, zone 1, Bamgboye area of Ado Ekiti, the state capital.

A source, who spoke with journalists on the condition of anonymity, said she learnt that the woman allegedly stabbed her husband in the chest with a knife.

” We were in church last Sunday, when somebody called that the old man has been stabbed to death by his wife. We have never had of any issue between them.

“The woman has two kids for the man, the older one is around nine years but she must be a second wife to the man that should be over sixty year old, who has a medical doctor as a son.”

Another source close to the area said, the woman must have been suffering from a psychological problem.

“We attended the same church. She had sent the two kids to church on Sunday for a special programme before the incident occurred.

“When we heard about the incident, the people at her house who met the policemen there, said she was holding a knife and telling everybody to come in and eat, which suggested that she is psychologically disturbed.”

A police source at Ologede Police station said psychiatric evaluation has been carried out on the suspect and she had since been transferred to the State headquarters of the police.

When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, DSP Caleb Ikechukwu, who confirmed the incident, said investigation is ongoing to unravel circumstances surrounding the matter.

The police spokesman said, “We are presently questioning few people at the homicide department of the command.

“Autopsy will be carried out after investigation.”

Esther Isama Runs Prostitution Ring In Rivers State, Busted By Police
User Avatar Forum: Other Stories
Posted by: Edoman - 11-23-2019, 10:36 PM - No Replies

Quote:Unfathomed atrocities were exposed recently when operatives of Eagle Crack Squad of the Rivers State Police Command, acting on a tip-off, stormed a hotel located at Mile 1, in Port Harcourt, Rivers State capital, and busted a prostitution ring run by a 44-year-old kingpin identified as Esther Isama.

The operation liberated some teenagers, aged 13 to 15, who had passed through harrowing experiences ranging from being locked up in a hotel against their will to being forced to take an oath to being coerced into drug abuse and paid sex while their captor was smiling daily to the bank.

The long arm of the law caught up with the “Evil Madame” who is presently a guest of the police. Rivers State Commissioner of Police, Mr Mustapha Dan Daura confirmed the hotel manager was also arrested.

Saturday Sun spoke with two of the rescued victims. From Favour Onagbor, 13, an indigene of Imo State, came this startling tes- timony: “Our mama (Esther Isama) came and deceived my parents that she would take us away from the village to Port Harcourt to give us a job in a restaurant. When we got to Port Harcourt, it was a different story. She intro- duced us to prostitution.”

According to her, they were pressured to make a return of N8, 000 daily from sleeping with as many men as possible. “Mama would starve us for six days. She would keep us locked inside the room. She gave us Tramadol to use before the men were brought in to have sex with us,” she alleged. She also claimed some of them fainted during long sex sessions.

A second victim, Vivian Og- bonna, 14, also from Imo State, also corroborated that they were lured from their parents with the promise of a greener pasture only to be forced into prostitution. She also corroborated that “any day we didn’t bring money for her, she would starve us of food for days.”

She dropped a bombshell when she claimed their private parts and armpits were shaved and the hair taken to a herbalist’s shrine for some black magic to keep them “padlocked” so they could not escape from the hotel and the prostitution ring. As if that was not frightening enough, they were also forced to swear an oath, she claimed.

Guilty as alleged?

Esther Isama did not deny the allegations when she spoke with Saturday Sun. A native of Awa Village in Ugwuta Local Government Area of Imo State, Isama admitted that she special- ised in recruiting underage girls, mostly aged 13 to 15, into her prostitution ring.

“I usually deceive their parents in the village that I have jobs for their girls in a big restaurant. I usually went to Imo, Akwa Ibom and Anambra states to scout for the girls. I promised to give them jobs in Port-Harcourt”.

Once they reached Port Harcourt, she showed her true colour to the naïve girls. “I usually camp them in the hotel where I introduced them to prostitution. I gave them a condition that they must meet a target of N8, 000 daily, failure of which they would be starved for some days. To make it easier for them, I gave them Tramadol and I took the men to them for sex.”

Isama did not also refute the allegation of rituals and the use of diabolical powers against her victims. “When some of the girls were asleep, I shaved their private parts and armpits and took the hair to the shrine of a herbal- ist to ‘padlock’ them so that they would not be able to run away,” she stated.

The woman who admitted “making money through them,” also confessed to have recruited over 15 girls. Eventually, some of the girls escaped from the hotel and alerted the public, prompting detectives to storm the hotel and consequently arresting the organisers of the racket

Isama understood her precari- ous position. She told Saturday Sun: “I have confessed everything to the police.”

Kogi West: Do not see Dino Melaye as politically paralyzed – Smart Adeyemi warns APC

 November 23, 2019

The candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Kogi West senatorial district, Senator Smart Adeyemi, has warned members of the party not to see his opponent, Senator Dino Melaye, as politically paralyzed.
He urged the party members not to over relax, but give their all to win next Saturday’s Kogi West supplementary poll.

Adeyemi is already leading his Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) opponent and current member representing the district at the National Assembly, Melaye, with over 20, O00 votes in the last Saturday Appeal Court ordered rerun.
Adeyemi (APC) has already polled 80,118, while Melaye (PDP) scored 59,548 giving a margin of 20,670.
The APC candidate spoke to reporters on Friday, in Lokoja, the Kogi State capital shortly after the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, announced the date for the supplementary election .

“We as party members must mobilize and fight like never before, for the remaining votes. We must commence house to house move and telephone contact of the 30,000 PVC holders,” Adeyemi said.
“We must not look at the supplementary election with a view that our opponent is politically paralyzed by now. We must work towards capturing at least 90 percent of the vote.
“Our aim is to get 30,000 out of the 31,000 PVC holders of the 40,000 registered voters in the affected areas; whether our opponents are ready or not is secondary.

“I sincerely thank you for your support and solidarity in the last Saturday outing, my full address will be after the rerun election is concluded.
“But for now, let us resume with more vigour and determination in our efforts towards the November 30 supplementary election. Let us go from house to house to mobilize people out for the exercise. We must give the election our all,” he said.

The bad blood between Edo Governor Godwin Obaseki and National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Comrade Adams Oshiomhole festered on Tuesday with both parties accusing each other of plotting to cause insecurity in the state.

While Obaseki accused Oshiomhole of intending to make the state ungovernable, Oshiomhole told the governor to stop harassing members APC members in Edo for choosing not to support his second term bid.

Oshiomhole at the weekend claimed the governor sponsored thugs to attack his Benin residence, a claim Edo Government declared as untrue.

Obaseki, who spoke through his Special Adviser on Media, Communication and Public Affairs, Crusoe Osagie, accused his predecessor of breaching protocol when visiting the state.

In fact, don't worry, be happy. The detail relative to this tight situation is that anybody can get it.I use this selection but haven't looked at that in that way. Good luck! I've been too lazy to make their theorization happen yet this is comforting. It is urgent for that news to be accurate. It is quite evident that there is some choice. Matt wrote me earlier that week to ask if I've done any updates to my Good Digestion reviews. You ask what has worked for them? Most teens believe that you should determine this about every this. It is how to use it. In a related vein there is this report I read about on Time Magazine this morning and this is part of the new Good Digestion standard. It was a sophisticated operation we're talking about on it. It is unlikely that agglomeration will be changed in a notable way to benefit us.That made me hot under the collar. The road to this begins with my completely off target comments in respect to, doing that. I have to be cheerful.

Customs Discovers 2000 Illegal Rice Importation Routes
User Avatar Forum: Market Place
Posted by: Edoman - 11-23-2019, 10:04 AM - No Replies

The Nigerian Customs Service Controller, Federal Operation Unit (FOU) Zone B, Kaduna, Mustapha Sarkin Kebbi, has disclosed the discovery of over 2000 illegal routes used to smuggle rice and other contraband goods across the Northern zone. He said the customs lacks adequate manpower to cover all illegal routes at the same time, but that they were doing their best to ensure that no foreign rice gets into the country from those illegal routes.

Sarkin Kebbi said the policies of the federal government on rice production must be sustained by completely stopping smugglers from importing foreign rice and other contraband goods into the country.

The controller who spoke at a news briefing to highlight some of the achievements of his zone said the unit was working on the hinterland to be able to stop the smugglers. He explained that the ongoing border exercise has recorded successes since its commencement in August. “These means that the fight continues and by the grace of God, the Nigerian Customs Service and Nigerians will triumph at the end of the day.

We will make sure that smugglers that are trying to ruin our economy and security didn’t succeed,” he said. He listed some of the goods seized by his zone to include 25 vehicles, 703 bags of parboiled foreign rice, 530 jerry cans of vegetable oil, 245 cartons of spaghetti, nine bales of second hand clothing, 40 jerry cans of kerosene, a truck of PMS at the Kebbi border with 30,000 liters and 288 jerry cans of PMS in Katsina, Sokoto, Kebbi and Kwara states.

He said the duty paid value of the intercepted goods was worth N43 million, just as he lamented the porous nature of Nigerian borders particularly in the North west zone of the country. He said the smugglers usually monitor the movement of customs personnel but progress was being made in the fight against smuggling in the country.

Oshiomhole mocks Saraki and others, says Dino Melaye is 20,000 feet below ground level and will need a miracle to be re-elected

Adams Oshiomhole slammed those that defected from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) he heads as he discussed the challeneges they are facing at the National Executive Council (NEC) meeting of the party.

According to the former Governor of Edo State, Former Senate President Bukola Saraki and 15 other lawmakers who defected to the People's Democratic Party (PDP) felt they could burn the APC down but they lost their reelection bid.

Oshiomhole who stated that there are no miracles in election, also took a swipe at Dino Melaye who he said is 20,000 feet below ground level and is hoping for a miracle at the rerun election on November 30.

Quote:“I also believe it is significant to point out all those who rebelled against this party, those who sort to burn us down, those who decamped at critical moment believing they could destabilize us and we won’t have enough time to make up as led by Senator Bukola Saraki and fifteen others; all sixteen of them, by the special grace of God, the Nigeria electorates have chosen to punish them with their PVCs and ballot papers. They were all voted out and APC’s senators were voted in to replace them.
“There is one that is still struggling, and as we speak, he is 20,000 feet below ground level and he is hoping that there will be a miracle that will bring him to that level and climb him to the senate.
“I believe by the special grace of God under your leadership (looking at Buhari), I believe that deficit (Dino Melaye) there are no miracles in elections, especially if it is free and fair.
“God willing, by the end of the month, God’s will in Kogi State will be done; the 16th stubborn one will go the way the other fifteen went,” Mr Oshiomhole told the crowded hall graced by party members and pressmen.
He also threw jab at some members of the party “who rode on the back of President Buhari to get money for their elections and still went back to decamp and attack the presidency and the institution of our party.”

Adams Oshiomhole also blamed the loss recorded in Zamfara, Oyo, Bauchi, and Adamawa elections on internal party crisis. He told party members to stop supporting candidates of the opposition party even if their allies in the APC loses.

Quote:“The issue of Bauchi and Adamawa, these are the states we have sitting governors. Looking at the result and listening to our officers from those states, it is very clear that these losses can easily be attributed to internal fighting (disunity) within the party in those respective states leading to internal sabotage.
“I think the lesson to learn from it is that no matter how aggrieved we are, the worst of our candidate embarking in an election should be preferred to an angel emerging as an opposition. It is my prayer that our leaders and cadres will recognise that once the primaries are done, everybody can’t win but whoever emerges should be supported. The spirit of party calls for a commitment to stand by whoever prevails, however, imperfect the process may be,” he said.

Air Peace CEO, Allen Onyema indicted for alleged $20m fraud and money laundering in the United States

Allen Ifechukwu Athan Onyema, the Chairman and CEO of Air Peace has been indicted over an alleged bank fraud and money laundering scheme.

The Airline owner was accused of moving more than $20 million from Nigeria through United States bank accounts in a scheme involving false documents based on the purchase of airplanes.

Quote:“Onyema allegedly leveraged his status as a prominent business leader and airline executive while using falsified documents to commit fraud,” said U.S. Attorney Byung J. “BJay” Pak.  “We will diligently protect the integrity our banking system from being corrupted by criminals, even when they disguise themselves in a cloak of international business.”

Air Peace's Chief of Administration and Finance, Ejiroghene Eghagha was also linked to the alleged fraudulent scheme and was charged with bank fraud and committing aggravated identity theft.

Quote:Robert J. Murphy, the Special Agent in Charge of the DEA Atlanta Field Division commented on the indictment, “Allen Onyema’s status as a wealthy businessman turned out to be a fraud. He corrupted the U.S. banking system, but his trail of deceit and trickery came to a skidding halt. DEA would like to thank the many law enforcement partners and the subsequent prosecution by the U.S. Attorney’s Office who aided in making this investigation a success.”
“This case is a prime example of why IRS-CI seeks to partner and leverage its expertise in an effort to thwart those seeking to exploit our nation’s financial system,” said Thomas J. Holloman, IRS-Criminal Investigation Special Agent in Charge of the Atlanta Field Office. “With the importance of our banking system to the movement of money around the world, those attempting to use intricate schemes to commit bank fraud through the use of falsified documents and other means should know that the odds are now heavily stacked against them as law enforcement is combining its talents to protect the sanctity and integrity of the nation’s financial system.”
“Onyema setup various innocent sounding multi-million dollar asset purchases which were nothing more than alleged fronts for his scam,” said acting Special Agent in Charge Robert Hammer, who oversees HSI operations in Georgia and Alabama. “I’m proud to be part of a team of law enforcement agencies that come together to identify and attack criminals that attempt to profit from the exploitation of our nation’s financial systems.”

It was gathered that Onyema began a frequent trip to Atlanta in United States in 2010 and reportedly opened several personal and business bank accounts. Between 2010 and 2018, over $44.9 million was allegedly transferred into his Atlanta-based accounts from foreign sources.

In the statement released by the U.S. Attorney’s Office of Northern District of Georgia, the Nigerian businessman was accused of purchasing five separate Boeing 737 passenger planes by using a series of export letters of credit to cause banks to transfer more than $20 million into his Atlanta-based bank accounts.

The supporting documents were allegedly fake and reportedly from Springfield Aviation Company LLC which is owned by Onyema and managed by a person with no connection to the aviation business. It was found that Springfield Aviation Company LLC never owned the aircraft it claimed to be buying. The company that allegedly drafted the appraisals also does not exist.

Onyema and Eghagha were indicted on November 19, 2019 on one count of conspiracy to commit bank fraud, three counts of bank fraud, one count of conspiracy to commit credit application fraud, and three counts of credit application fraud.

Additionally, Onyema was charged with 27 counts of money laundering while Eghagha was charged with one count of aggravated identity theft.

RHAPSODY OF REALITIES

SATURDAY, 23RD NOVEMBER.

PLANNING IS IMPORTANT

So teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom (Psalm 90:12).

In the Bible, God shows us it’s important to plan. If you read in Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers and Deuteronomy, you’d see that God numbered days; He gave numbers to certain days.

For example, in Numbers 1:1, God fixed “... the first day of the second month, in the second year...” while instructing the children of Israel on their departure from Egypt. Having plans for special days was normal with God.

In our opening verse, Moses wanted God to teach us how to do it; so he said, “... teach us to number our days….” He didn’t say, “Teach us to count our days.” The word “number” there is an accounting word. It means that you’re accounting for the days; you’re scheduling or organizing your days. For example, you say, “On the 25th of January, 2020, I’m going to do such and such.” That’s planning or scheduling.

Some people don’t plan their days. Many have regrets about their lives because they wasted time doing insignificant things. I remember the prayer of a dear minister years ago, who said, “Lord, you know I only have one life to live; don’t let me waste it; help me live it for you.” What a prayer!

It ought to be your conscious thought that you have only one life to live. Time is an asset, which you must learn to invest wisely. Investing your time wisely means investing your time in spiritual things. Remember, the Word declares: “...To be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace” (Romans 8:6).

Make every day count, by doing only those things that’ll advance the Kingdom of God, and improve your life. As you study the Word and fellowship with the Holy Spirit, He’ll tell you the things He wants you to do, how He wants them done, and when you should do them.

PRAYER

Precious Holy Spirit, I thank you for your indwelling presence. I’m yielded to you to be guided, taught, inspired and strengthened to take the right steps at the right time, fulfiling your perfect will for my life, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.

This could be via text message or chat on social media. Trust me, this is one of the easiest ways to maintain friendship.

#3. Remind Them Of Some Of The Memories You Share Together

Sometimes, reminding your friends about some of the interesting memories you share together can reignite the fire of friendship. According to experts, sharing a memory helps to solidify your common history.

#4. Follow Up When A Friend Is Going Through Hard times

Whenever your friend is going through hard times, try to be there for them. In fact, listen to their complain and encourage them through these trying periods.

From time to time, check on them to know if they are okay. This will definitely make them feel loved and they will reciprocate such love for sure. Trust me, follow up with a friend is one of the tips on how to maintain friendships.

#5. Try To Meet In Person Once In A While

One of the best ways to strengthen your friendship is to meet in person once in a while. Seeing each other after a long time can go a long way to reigniting the spirit of friendship.

Sometimes, we may never understand the value of true friendships unless you are in need of one. Although true friends aren’t common, if you find one, try to value them.
Even though you are very successful in life, you still need good friends. Do you know why? It’s because tomorrow is pregnant, no one knows what it will give birth to. But if you know how to maintain friendships, you will always have true friends irrespective of your busy schedule.

5 Tips That Could Make Celebrity Marriages Work

Let me start by reminding you that no marriage is perfect. Whether you are a celebrity or an average person, every wedding has its unique challenges. But any marriage that works is not a miracle; it’s as a result of the efforts the partners make to keep it going.

No matter how much two couples love themselves, such love may not withstand the test of time, if they aren’t making efforts to make things work.

It’s quite painful when we see recurring headlines of celebrities divorce. Does it mean that no celebrity can have a successful marriage? The answer is No; every superstar should have a happy home irrespective of his or her career.

I know a few celebrities that are happily married, and they are still doing well in their various careers. Now don’t get me wrong. Even those who we assumed are living happily with their spouses have issues with their homes as well. But they can manage it, and this is why they are still in their marriages.

So, in this article, I will share with you five tips that could make celebrity marriages work. Again, these tips aren’t for celebrities alone; you can as well apply it to your home.

#1. Take Your Marriage Off Social Media

Social media is fast becoming a part of our tech life. Arguably, most people can’t spend a whole day without engaging in one social media activity or the other. I am not disputing the fact that Social media is great, but it isn’t the best place to discuss your marriage.

Trust me, your followers or fans online don’t care whether your marriage works or not. They are just there scavenging for information to be shared on their timeline or status.
It doesn’t matter how bad things are, try to resolve it with your partner amicably. Make your marriage issues very personal, and if for any reason, people got wind of the challenges in your marriage. Decline any interview and don’t respond to any online information meant to stimulate a statement from you.

#2. Respect Your Spouse
Lack of mutual respect is one of the reasons celebrity marriages don’t work. It’s often surprising how two couples whose marriage trended on social media for months break up in less than a year after the wedding. Most times, mutual respect is the cause.
To your fans out there, you are a demigod, but you are yourself to your spouse. You must be ready to humble yourself before your spouse. Otherwise, things will not work. No matter how much you love each other, without respect, marriage can never work out.
Without a doubt, respect is the cornerstone in any relationship; without it, love will die a natural death. In my opinion, respect is more important than love in any relationship. You can argue if you want, but it’s the truth.
Once you start losing respect for your significant other because you are a celebrity, the marriage will crumble.
The question now is, “ What does respect really mean in a relationship?” In its purest form, mutual respect in marriage involves speaking with your spouse respectfully and fashionably. It also involves considering your partner whenever you make decisions. In other words, always consider how your choices will affect your partner.
Now don’t get me wrong. I never say you should sacrifice yourself or career to make your partner happy. But try to discuss critical issues with love even when it seems complicated.
#3. Learn What Your Spouse Like
Compromise is key to every successful marriage. Try as much as possible to learn what your partner’s like. You may not like it but try to take an interest in your spouse’s witch.
Once he or she notices that you are taking an interest in their hobbies, it gives them the impression that you genuinely care about them.

#4. Always Create Together Time With Each Other
Don’t get carried away by the “title” celebrity; try to create together time with your spouse. Some stars often fail to prioritize their marriage. And it’s sometimes a contributory factor to the marriage failure.
Irrespective of your career’s schedule, try to make time for your spouse. If you know you are so busy with work, why did you agree to get married in the first place? You can’t go around granting interviews and traveling to places, and leave your spouse to be lonely. It’s always an invitation to problems in your marriage.
Even if you decide to travel for a while, ensure you make video calls regularly with your significant other.

#5. Let Your Spouse Know That It’s Not As Rosy As It Seems

You can’t deny the fact that there are gold-diggers everywhere looking for already made spouse. And celebrities are often a target. Some people believe that celebrities are super-rich. They fail to understand that most of them are living fake lives.

And once a gold digger gets married to you because he or she thinks there’s gold somewhere. The relationship may die a natural death if such a spouse discovers that it’s not as rosy as he or she thinks.

For this reason, try to reveal the real situation of things to whoever you are marrying before you continue. At least, it will assure you that you aren’t marrying a gold digger.

An American chef has taken to social media to express his sadness after discovering the little boy he called son and has been raising alone for 10 months isn't his.
According to his posts, the chef who identifies as Chef Dom on IG, stated that the mother of the boy had him and abandoned him few days after she gave birth and he has been taking care of the boy with the help of his family and recently discovered he isn't the biological father and has been mandated by the court to hand the boy over to his biological father.

Chef Dom wrote

Quote:First of all I will like to thank every single person who have hell me raised this young little angel from God... you guys have seen him grow from day one. His mother left us when he was a month old and for nine months I raised him up to the best of my ability. It was not easy raising him alone but I had lots of help. His baby sitter never charge me a day of his life. She calls him her grandson. Than my parents came when he was 4 months my parents came back and stepped up and love this boy with all their heart ??. He changed all our lives forever. My sister every morning put out clothes for him before she goes to work like it was her son.
So today went to court and was ordered to return to his biological dad .. come to find out I was not his dad so I have by Thursday to bring him back like a rented toy to his dad. Yes I’m heart broken and hate the world  or her for doing this and destroyed my family and the dad family. This shit hurt like hell but I know I got the support of people out here. I’m sorry I broke my family heart and I do hope he’s in God hand and will forever be my son. Best 10 months of my life

Woke up thinking it was a nightmare but reality setting in this will be the last full day I got with him. He made me grow up at my old age lol. I can’t lie I do have hate for his mom right now but I have to focus on him and be thankful for the 10 month.. it’s so crazy Friday when I give him back he will be 10 months exactly.
I was looking forward to his first thanksgiving, Christmas and omg the biggest 1st birthday party January 22nd which I was going to cater for free lol.... that’s the part that hurt. I will be with him today if anyone want to see him just let me know and I appreciate everyone kind words and prayers... almost out of tears''.

Court sentences two brothers to one year imprisonment for fraud

The EFCC, Benin Zonal office, on Thursday November 21, 2019 secured the convictions of two brothers, Wisdom Onojiolou and Omorodion Onojiolou before Justice M.G Umar of the Federal High Court sitting in Benin, Edo State on a two count charge of intent to defraud and obtaining under false pretense.

A statement from EFCC says the duo were said to have fraudulently obtained the sum of N15, 400, 000. (Fifteen Million, Four Hundred Thousand Naira) from one Philian Uwadiae under the pretense that the money was to establish a business for her in Benin.

One of the counts read: "that you Wisdom Ehis Onojiolou sometime in March 2016 in Benin within the jurisdiction of this honourable court did with intent to defraud, obtained the aggregate sum of N9,000,000.00 (Nine Million Naira) Only from Philian Uwadiae under the pretense that the money was to set up human hair business for her in Benin , a representation you knew to be false and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 1(1)(b) of the Advance  Fee Fraud and Other Fraud Related Offences Act, 2006 and punishable under section 1(3) of the same Act".

The two brothers  pleaded guilty to the  charges when it was read to them .

In view of their plea, the prosecution counsel, I.M Elody prayed the court to sentence and convict the defendants  accordingly.  However, defence counsel, Martha Imafu pleaded with the court to temper  justice with mercy as the defendants were first time offenders who have become remorseful.

Justice Umar thereafter convicted and sentenced the defendants to one year imprisonment commencing from the date of judgement and ordered that they make restitution to their victim.

I won’t make the mistake of attempting a third term- President Buhari

President Buhari has dismissed rumors that he might be seeking  a third term.

President Buhari dismissed the rumors when he spoke at the National Executive Council (NEC) meeting of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abuja earlier today November 22nd, President Buhari said he will respect the Constitution which allows for only 2 terms.

Quote:''I’m not going to make the mistake of attempting a third term. Beside the age, I swore by the holy book that I would go by the constitution and the constitution said two terms. I know that I’m in my last term and I can afford to be reckless because I’m not going to ask for anybody’s vote.
I want you to read the constitution. I made sure that when the constitution says the election as we did it the last time will start in 18 months’ time or 20 months’ time. It is going to be done.
Anybody who fails to maintain the respect of his constituents and is thrown out, it’s his problem. Like the chairman has said, all those who left us to the upper house, none of them were voted by his constituents. You want to take our people for granted but they know what they are doing” he said

Appeal Court vacates stringent bail conditions granted Sambo Dasuki

The possibility that the former National Security Adviser (NSA), Colonel Sambo Dasuki (Rtd), will be released from detention rises as the Appeal Court in Abuja, on Friday, November 22nd vacated stringent bail conditions earlier granted to him.

The court unanimously consented to Dasuki’s request for a variation in the terms attached to the bail earlier granted him. The three-man panel of the court expunged the requirement that Dasuki produced a Level 16 civil servant who must own a property worth N100 million within the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

According to Justice Stephen Adah, in the lead judgment, it was wrong for courts to ask a civil servants to stand as surety when bail was granted. In 2018, Justice Ijeoma Ojukwu of a Federal High Court, Abuja had granted Dasuki N200 million bail with two sureties.

The judge also held that the sureties must either be civil servants of grade level 16 in the federal civil service or private citizens who have landed properties in the municipal areas of Abuja. But the Appeal Court in July 2019, contrary to the earlier ruling on his release and bail conditions, reduced the bail to N100m, adding that his sureties must be resident within the jurisdiction of the court.

Quote:The judgement had read: “Each of the sureties shall furnish evidence of ownership of property in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) worth N100,000.00.”
“Where there is need for any interview with the Applicant by the Respondents in respect of those allegations, the Appellant shall not be detained and such interview shall be conducted on working days only, between 9.00 hours to 18.00 hours.
“The International passport of Applicant shall remain with the Deputy Chief Registrar of the court below for the time being.”

Nnamdi Kanu Blasts Nigeria Media For Portraying Referendum As A Call For War
User Avatar Forum: General Discussion
Posted by: Edoman - 11-22-2019, 09:29 PM - No Replies

IgbereTV reports that leader of Indigeous people of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu has said that the Nigeria Media portrays any call for referendum as a call for war.

The IPOB leader made this known on Twitter. He said:

As Ethiopia conducts Referendum in its Sidama region, one is reminded of a similar referendum through which Adamawa became part of Nigeria. Today any demand for referendum is deemed call for war. Why? It’s because Nigeria media portrays it as such just to please the ruling Cabal.

Recall that IPOB had requested for a referendum which the Nigeria federal government refused to grant them. But the IPOB leader is currently seeking assistance of foreign bodies and leaders for the actualisation of the state of Biafra.

According to IPOB, the referendum is to ascertain number of those who want Nigeria politics and those who want Biafra freedom through a peaceful and democratic process for the sovereignty of Biafra nation.

Earlier in 2019, IPOB fixed a referendum for February 16, 2019 same day Nigeria was to hold its presidential election. The referendum was in the form of a sit-at-home order to biafrans, to avoid participating in the Nigerian election which according to IPOB leaders will show to the world that the Biafra people is no longer satisfied with the Nigerian leadership and would therefore want a nation of their own. Though the order was not fully complied with in the biafran region, Biafrans are still waiting for Nnamdi Kanu who is still outside the country, to tell them the next step to take.

Mother Kills Her Child To Punish Husband In Osun

Mrs. Rukayat Abdulrahmon: Allegedly confessed to killing her 3-year old boy.

A mother, Mrs. Rukayat Abdulrahmon, allegedly confessed to killing her 3-year old boy as a punitive measure to her husband, Raheem, few days to the dissolution of their union.

Investigations showed that the deceased, Ganiyu, was the only child she had for her husband, which is her third marriage.

Besides, the couple had not been having a healthy relationship, as a Sharia Court in the state had given the embattled couple three months to go their separate ways if they cannot resolve their differences.

The incident occurred five days to the expiration of the 90 days given by the court.

The residents of Olorunosebi community at Kola Balogun area of Osogbo, in Osun State, had on Sunday, November 17, woke up to the cries of the couple searching for the deceased, whom they claimed slept in the same room with them.
They were thrown into confusion as the body was found in a well in the house, which is a storey building.

Co-tenants in the building where the incident happened woke up to the cries of the parents of the deceased who were looking for his whereabouts early in the morning.

It was gathered that their neighbours joined in the search for the boy in the neighborhood but their effort was futile after searching different houses in the area.

However, while a lady in the house attempted to fetch water for laundry, the body was discovered in the well dug to serve occupants of the house.

The neighbours quickly entered into the well to retrieve the body, hoping that he might be resuscitated, but it was late as the body was recovered lifelessly.

However, a source in the house confided in Vanguard that the boy could have open the cover, because of its weight, and jump into the well and still closed it.

Police arrest couple

The police arrested the parents as the prime suspects and later other tenants in the building.
Investigation revealed that the woman confessed to the police that she wanted to punish her husband and ensure that he does not gain anything out of the union.

When contacted, the 2 I/C police Public Relations Officer of Osun Police Command, Mustapha Ketayeyanjue, confirmed the incident, saying the woman is cooperating with the police investigation.

As at the time of filing this report, the tenants in the house have been released.

Seven men arraigned for impersonating members of the Nigerian army

The Nigerian police on Friday, November 22nd arraigned seven men before an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly conspiring and impersonating as members of the Nigerian Armed Forces.

Quote:The defendants are, Ndidi Ohuchukwu, 27; Owolabi Adeyemi, 47; David Olufemi, 47; Samuel Iseyin, 41; Emeka Ibe, 31; Samuel Anochime, 36; and Stephen Ebedot, 37.

The defendants, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge. According to the Police Prosecutor, ASP Ezekiel Ayorinde, the defendants conspired and portrayed themselves as military men by wearing full Nigerian Army Camouflage, a representation they knew to be false.

Ayorinde alleged that the defendants committed the offences with others still at large on Sept. 10 about 6.30 p.m. in Ikotun, Lagos.
Quote:“The defendants were apprehended when they could not give satisfactory ownership of the camouflage uniforms in their possession,” he said.

The Chief Magistrate, Mrs B. O. Osunsanmi, admitted the defendants to bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum. She ordered that the sureties must be gainfully employed with an evidence of two years tax payment to the Lagos State Government and reside within the court’s jurisdiction.

The alleged offences contravene Sections 77(a)(b) and 411 of the Criminal laws of Lagos State 2015, (Revised). Impersonating armed forces attracts three years jail term, while conspiracy is punishable with two years imprisonment upon conviction.  The Magistrate adjourned the case until Dec. 11 for mention
