The Nigeria man, Izuchukwu Daniel Eze has reportedly died in Dubai where he resides.

According to his friend, O.D Nwankwo who took to Facebook to mourn him, Eze was a barber and also a footballer in Dubai. He was playing football with his friends when he slumped and died.

He was rushed to the hospital but sadly, he died before medical help could get to him.

”My brother i can’t believe u will not return to Nigeria alive rest in peace #Izuchukwu-Daniel-Eze when u fail down in the pitch am surprise we try to save ur life by rushing u to hospital but u didn’t make it rip my brother” Nwankwo wrote.

This is sad. A young lady was killed in a fatal accident while heading to the court on Wednesday, December 16th (yesterday).

The deceased identified as Miss Promise Ezekiel of Brave Heart Initiative (BHI), who hails from Benin, Edo state, was following up a rape case in the court, when she was involved in a fatal accident which killed her alongside the rape victim, according to Nkechi Ugochukwu, who described her 'as a heroin in the struggle' in a social media post earlier today.

Reacting to the ugly situation, Prince Chukwuemeka Uba, the National President of Ohanaeze Youth Foundation, Nigeria, OYFN, has challenged the Commissioner of Police, Edo State, to launch a thorough investigation aimed at unraveling the remote cause or causes of the auto crash, believing there is more to that incident, bearing in mind a rape case was involved.

According to him, the police could begin by profiling the person involved in the rape issue, towards ascertaining his past on such case or any other criminal matters.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Enugu Zonal Office on January 15, 2019 arraigned two suspected fraudsters, Nnamdi Madu, 24, and Darlington Ifeakachi Nwali, 24, before Justice A.M. Liman of the Federal High Court, Enugu on a 10-count charge bordering on “intent to defraud and possession of fraudulent documents containing false pretences” contrary to Section 6 of the Advance Fee Fraud and Other Fraud Related Offences Act 2006 and punishable under Section 1(3) of the same Act.

They were arrested on December 14, 2018 during a raid on the hideout of several members of a syndicate of fraudsters operating within Enugu metropolis mostly made up of University students and dropouts, who were observed to be living flamboyantly, above their means of livelihood.

Analysis carried out by the Commission on the computers of the suspected fraudsters revealed a number of incriminating documents intended to be used in swindling unsuspecting foreigners. Some documents in the recovered computers of the suspects were titled “ SPANISH HASTING WARD CAREY & CHAMBERS,” “CERTIFICATE OF INCORPORATION OF A PRIVATE COMPANY” “ AILEEN” intended to be sent out using fake or stolen identities.

Some other items recovered from them include, various ATM cards, a Toyota Venza with a National Association of Nigerian Student (NANS) number plate, Toyota Avalon, four laptops, several mobile phones, substances suspected to be charms, and wraps of Indian hemp among others. One of the defendants who trained as a science lab technician and who recently got a job at one of the teaching hospitals in Enugu was found to be the owner of a filling station in an outskirt of Enugu.

They pleaded “not guilty” to charges when they were read to them.

Defence counsel, Ndubuisi Nwaokporo, thereafter, moved motion for their bail, which was not opposed by the prosecuting counsel, Innocent Mbachie.

Justice Liman, thereafter, granted bail in the sum of N500, 000 each, and one surety in like sum, who must have landed properties within the jurisdiction of the Court.

While adjourning to January 21, 2019 for “commencement of trial”, Justice Liman, ordered that they should be remanded in prison custody pending when they meet the terms of their bail.

Corps member arrested after reporting fraud to police

A corps member identified as, Ayodeji Felix Olaniyi, has been arrested after he reported a suspected fraud to the police in Akwa Ibom state.


The corps member serving in Abak, Akwa Ibom State, is currently behind bars over a fraudulent payment he received from a person he allegedly sold bitcoin to.
This was made known by one Olowoleye Olayinka, who gave an insight into what led to Olaniyi’s arrest, Olowoleye wrote:

He is into selling of bitcoin. He sold bitcoin to a client who resides in Delta State. The client hacked a woman’s UBA account in the same Delta State to pay him through mobile transfer to his GTB.

He noticed the name of the client who bought the bitcoin is different from the account name that paid him. He quickly went to police station (A) Division Uyo, on the 12th January 2019 to lay a complain to DPO about the transaction.
The DPO was not on seat so he met with IPO and wrote down a statement. On 14th January 2019 (Monday), he went back to the police station (A) Division Uyo, to ensure the DPO was aware of the statement he wrote.
However, the DPO advised him to go to his bank and confirm the transaction and to also give him feedback of what happened. But on getting to the bank, he discovered his account was frozen.
The bank then held him and police from © Division at Aka Etina Road, later arrested him and nothing has been done about it. The owner of the hacked account who raised the alarm that led to his arrest, is nowhere to be found till date.”

Two suspects have been arrested by Police for allegedly stealing pastor’s daughter’s pants at the Mission House of an orthodox church in Akure, Ondo State.
The suspects, Samuel Linus and Adekunke Ogundana, who were security guards posted to the church, were said to have stolen the pants the lady spread overnight.

For them, it is a tool to alienate rather than convert our compatriots to the nation-building imperative that restructuring offers.

“Rather than the hard graft of solving our governance problems, this group would rather grab headlines and mouth sound-bites at opportunities like this. You can almost sense that this people actually dread restructuring becoming public policy, having succeeded in living off a serious national imperative for so long. We must be mindful of this class of people,” he added.

Since his committe submitted its report to the national leadership of the party in 2017, nothing has been heard about the subject matter except for the recent pledge of Atiku Abubakar, the 2019 presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), to restructure the country within six months in office if elected president.

“If there are strong allegations that are backed up with evidences, bank accounts, names of companies floated and contracts awarded, then we will take them before the courts through the EFCC and ICPC and we have to trust the system and allow them to complete investigation.

“If we just take people, in as we did during the military, and lock them up, the present democracy, a multi-party democracy, does not approve of that.

“If you accuse any person, you have to provide evidence in court for him to be prosecuted.

“So, if there is strong allegation, the government may decide to ask people to go, like in the case of the former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, we asked him to go.

“The matter is already before the EFCC and I believe that a directive has been issued to charge him and all persons who have cases before the EFCC,” the president said.

Buhari who said his administration would not tolerate any form of corrupt practices from any quarters, advised those making allegations to be able to provide evidence why those they are accusing should be prosecuted.

Many nurses and medical officials attending to her gave up hope but her parents remained strong. Today, she is healthy, strong and living a normal life.

Two students of the Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Owo, identified as Nash and Elijah, have died, following a fatal lone accident in Akure, Ondo State.

The accident occurred around 4:30, today, while the duo were returning from a nightclub in the town. They were subsequently rushed to a nearby hospital where they were confirmed dead.

"Adams Oshiomhole, National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), on Wednesday led a song filled with chants of ‘thief’ against Senate President Bukola Saraki, who was a member of his party until July 2018 when he defected to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

During his speech at the APC presidential rally in Lokoja, capital of Kogi State, Oshiomhole appeared to be set on a lengthy dig at Atiku, only for him to switch to Saraki in a flash.

Sterling Bank Lists N32bn Bond On NSE

Sterling Investment SPV Plc, a special purpose vehicle floated by Sterling Bank Plc, listed its N32.899 billion Series II, seven-year 16.25 per cent fixed rate unsecured bonds on the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE).



In a notification signed by the head, Listings Regulation of NSE, Godstime Iwenekhai said, “the dealing members are hereby notified that Sterling Investment SPV Plc’s N32.899 billion, seven year-year 16.25 per cent fixed rate unsecured bonds due 2025 (Series II) issued under the N65 billion Debt Issuance Program were on January 14, 2019 listed on the Exchange.”

The SPV is a tier-11 capital raising programme for Sterling Bank, a creative way to shield the bank from unnecessary regulatory and market issues while having access to the much-needed capital. Sterling Bank in 2018 has decided to focus its lending on five key sectors: “HEART” (Health, Education, Agriculture, Renewable Energy and Transport).

In addition, the bank launched I-invest, an app that enables consumers to buy treasury bills themselves, and increased its social media presence. Going by the bank’s third quarter, ended September 30, 2018, showed that gross earnings rose by 21.1 percent to N114.6 billion in the third quarter of 2018 compared with N94.6 billion recorded in comparable period of 2017. Profit before tax grew by N8.5 billion or 29.5 percent as against N6.5 billion in corresponding period of 2017, while after taxes, net profit rose by 39 percent from N5.9 billion to N8.2 billion. Earnings per share thus improved from 21 kobo to 28 kobo.

The chief executive officer, Sterling Bank, Mr. Abubakar Suleiman said the bank has been able to sustain its steady growth due to focused implementation of its strategic intent of exceeding customers’ expectations. He disclosed that the bank’s Series 2 Notes issuance of N19.7 billion under its N39 billion debt issuance programme was oversubscribed. He added that the net proceeds from the issuance would be recognized as Tier II capital after the regulatory approval. He said the buffer provided by the additional capital would give room for business expansion across the bank’s focus growth areas including health, education, agriculture, renewable energy and transportation sectors. “Going forward, we aim to complete the ongoing implementation of a number of digital-led initiatives in line with our digitization drive. This is expected to further intensify the bank’s retail drive,” Suleiman said.

Demutualisation Of NSE Reaches Final Stage – Onyema

The Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) said it has started working on the final stages of its conversion from a not-for-profit limited by guarantee entity into a profit-making, shareholders-owned public limited liability company.

The conversion is technically known as demutualisation, which is the process of converting the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) from an organisation which exists for the benefit of its members, to one which is public, and investor owned. The chief executive officer of NSE, Mr. Oscar Onyema, at the 2018 Market Recap and 2019 Outlook event held in Lagos, said that demutualisation bill was signed into law and assented to by the president. He stated that the NSE is currently working on the final stages of the demutualisation process.

According to him, the Exchange has gone farther than it had ever been in the conversion process and has started working on the final stages of the process. He said the Exchange was committed, not only to early completion of the process, but to ensure that the conversion enhances its success story. The NSE demutualisation bill, which would transform the NSE into a typical company, has finally been signed into law by Nigeria’s President Muhammadu Buhari.


According to Onyema, following the bill signing, it is now left for the NSE Council and all the other stakeholders to decide on a takeoff date. “Demutualisation Bill has been accented to and signed into law by the president, as the Exchange along with other stakeholders are working on the final stages of the process.”

Efforts to demutualise the Nigerian Stock Exchange has been a long-standing one. In 2015, the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) issued the Exposure draft rules on demutualisation of exchanges in Nigeria and the Nigerian Stock Exchange appointed financial advisers to advise it on a proposed demutualisation.

In 2018, Nigeria’s lower house of legislature, the House of Representatives, passed a bill amending the laws establishing the NSE. This followed an earlier signing of a similar bill by the Senate, all part of the processes leading to the demutualisation of the Nigerian bourse. With the newly-signed demutualisation bill implemented, the NSE will transform into a typical company, with board of directors and an independent management. The company’s shares will also be available for public ownership, even as it will be subject to the rules and regulations governing companies in Nigeria.

Undercover investigator and a key member of Anas Aremeyaw Anas' Tiger Eye Private Investigatons team, Ahmed Hussein-Suale has been shot dead.  
 
According to reports from Ghana, Ahmed was shot three times, twice in the chest and another in the neck late on Wednesday night at Madina in Accra while driving home by unidentified men riding motorbike  
 
His employer, Anas confirmed the sad development and loss of a core team member to Graphic Online, saying Ahmed was one of Tiger Eye journalists whose photographs the member of parliament for Assign South, Kennedy Agyapong circulated in his 'who watches the watchman' anti-Anas video documentary and called on the public to deal with for a handsome reward.  
 
"He was just shot and killed, nothing was taken from him", said another devastated member of the Anas team, who added that the body has been taken to the Police Hospital Morgue and that he could be buried as soon as possible in keeping with Islamic rites.

Set to implement mineral export guidelines

The federal government has hinted that royalty rates for miners have been reduced from between three per cent and five per cent to between two and 3.5 per cent, noting that royalties will henceforth be paid directly to the Federation Account, after repatriation of proceeds by the exporter’s bank – in the currency of trade – before the exporter’s domiciliary account is credited.

The Minister of Mines and Steel Development, Alhaji Abubakar Bawa Bwari, who disclosed this at a press conference in Abuja, said that the advalorem value (market value) on which all royalties for exports are calculated, will henceforth be charged against the international quoted price of the commodity.

Bwari, while giving account of his three years’ stewardship in the mining sector, in Abuja, revealed that all mineral exports shall henceforth be inspected by the federal government-appointed independent pre-shipment inspection agents, who shall also render quantity and quality control services and monitor pricing.

He noted that the move, which is in accordance with the Pre-shipment Inspection of Exports Act, was a measures been put in place to ensure correct valuation of royalties.

According to him, “to promote and encourage more mineral exporters to go into mining and to make provision for the environmental degradation resulting from the activities of the informal artisan producers, royalties for mineral trading exporters is set at a reduced rate to between 2.5 per cent and 4.5 per cent.

“Under the-soon-to-be-released Mineral Export Guidelines, the lingering issue of evading payment of royalties or false declarations has been dealt with. This simply means that a person exporting, for example, Tin concentrate of 50 per cent tin metal content, will pay less royalties than a person exporting a concentrate of 70 per cent tin content.

He stated that the extra one per cent charged for non-mining exporters shall be deployed for environmental remediation by the government, saying whilst royalties were paid for only 56 within the period, export documentation was cumbersome and the process of mineral exports took 46 days to complete.

“This, we discovered was occasioned by the lack of a distinct procedure for conducting mineral exports. The whole export circles from inspection at source to shipment will now take16 days, instead of the current 46 days’’, the minister further stated.

“I am pleased to announce to you that for the first time in the history of Nigeria, the Ministry in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Finance (FMF) has developed a handbook for Mineral Exports.

“The document addresses the lapses in processing exports and will facilitate the capture of accurate data on mineral exports.”

He added that the guidelines document will also plug revenue leakages, by ensuring repatriation of export proceeds and payment of royalties.

According to him, “ The new Export Guidelines for Solid Minerals: Procedures and Documentation Requirements for Ease of Doing Business in Nigeria will also reduce the time for processing Mineral Export Permits from 14 days to two working days.

“Implementation of the document is expected to commence by the second quarter of this year. The project is driven by the Home Finance Department of the Federal Ministry of Finance and the Investment Promotion and Mineral Trade Department of the Ministry.’’

Bwari also stated that the Ministry of Mines and Steel Development and Federal Ministry of Finance (FMF) have conducted the appropriate Stakeholders Consultative Forum and are arranging to hold a final sensitisation workshop for stakeholders in the first quarter of 2019.

REIGNING THROUGH WORDS.

And hath made us kings and priests unto God and his Father… (Revelation 1:6).

As a Christian, the consciousness or realisation that you’re actually a king, and not a helpless, needy commoner, will completely change the way you live. Don’t think or say, “If I’m truly a king, why is my life like this? Why aren’t things working out right?”

Evidently, those who talk that way haven’t believed the Word; they haven’t accepted who they are.
You’re a king because God says you are; it has nothing to do with what you might be experiencing. What you need is to practise living as a king. Kings reign; so, start reigning. How do kings reign? They reign through words. The Bible says, “Where the word of a king is, there is power…” (Ecclesiastes 8:4); power to effect changes; power to make what you say come to pass.

Decide that you’re going to walk, talk, pray and live as a king throughout this year. It begins with your mentality. Look into the mirror and tell the person on the other side of the mirror, “You’re a king; rule and reign as one!”

One thing is sure: Kings exercise dominion and authority. The most beautiful part is that your authority as a king is that of the Lord Jesus; He’s the One that made you a king. Therefore, you have every right to exercise dominion, and “king” over the devil and the forces of life.

Refuse the low or ordinary life. If, for instance, you’ve been having a challenge of accommodation, it’s about time you said to yourself, “It’s not right for a king to be homeless!” Then start speaking words that’ll create the kind of accommodation that you want. If you’ve been in search of a job, it’s time to create one; start speaking and issuing decrees. As you do, these words will cause you to take actions that are necessary, position you, and create the right conditions and circumstances for the fulfillment of your desires, through the power of the Spirit.

Jesus said in Mark 11:23, “You shall have what you say”; that’s the destiny of kings; they don’t speak empty words; they take charge of situations with the word of faith in their mouth. Job 22:28 says, “Thou shalt also decree a thing, and it shall be established unto thee….” There’s power in your mouth; there’s dominion in your tongue; reign and rule as a king in life, with words.

CONFESSION
I reign as a king in this life, altering situations and circumstances in my favour. I make decrees and they’re established, for the Word of God on my lips is God talking. I’m royalty. I’m destined to rule and reign in life. Glory to God!

Nigerians Have Made Up Their Minds To Vote Atiku, PDP Replies Buhari

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has replied President Muhammadu Buhari saying that Nigerians have made up their minds to vote Atiku Abubakar as their next President.
The party stated this in a statement on Wednesday through its Director Media and Publicity, Presidential Campaign Organisation, Kola Ologbondiyan.
According to the PDP, “Nigerians have since made up their minds to rally with Atiku Abubakar as their next President ahead of the February Presidential election”.
Although President Buhari had earlier told supporters of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lokoja, the Kogi State capital, not to make the mistake and vote for any PDP candidate during the general elections.
The PDP in its statement further criticised the ‘scanty attendance’ at the APC campaign rallies saying it is an indication that Nigerians are not ready to return him into the office for a second term.
The opposition party also alleged that the president could not clearly make his claims at the rally.
“President Buhari could not articulate any clear message, even as he mixed up figures and statistics,” the party said.
The party also criticised the APC’s National Chairman, Adams Oshiomhole for calling out names of their party leaders during the campaign rally and called on the National Peace Committee to sanction him on the comments he made against them.
“It is instructive for President Buhari to note how poorly Nigerians responded to his campaign flag-off in Uyo, Akwa Ibom state, as well as his zonal rallies, where his rented attendees even refused to wave the APC brooms and paid no attention to him whenever he mounted the stage to speak.
“President Buhari should end his playing to the gallery on the fight against corruption and get serious by prosecuting members of his Campaign Council, who all have allegations of corruption hanging on their names”.

"President Muhammadu Buhari has said that he did not comment on the allegations of bribery against Kano State Governor Umar Ganduje simply because the Kano State House of Assembly has waded into the matter.

He also noted that he has not been to Kano State since the video alleging Ganduje as taking bribes from contractors was leaked.

“Hopefully, by the time I go to Kano for my campaign, I will have the information,” Buhari said.

But Atiku, in a statement through his Special Assistant on Public Communication, Mr. Phrank Shaibu , said by virtue of President Buhari not being aware of the development involving the CJN proves that he is incompetent to lead the country.

Atiku also said that President Buhari does not deserve a second term in office because he is not in control of hisgovernment. Atiku urged Nigerians to vote for him because, according to him, he remains the only credible and candidate with clear cut plans on how to move the country to greater growth. 

The statement further reads thus: “This president has exhibited gross incompetence, ignorance, poverty of ideas and lack of innovation.

“This president doesn’t know anything. They may have mentioned the plot to him but he does not remember anything! “He didn’t know who stole the budget in 2016. He never knew his Chief of Staff was on the board of the NNPC.

“President Buhari never knew dead people were on the list of board appointments he signed. “He never knew Abdulrasheed Maina of the pension scam incident was reinstated into the civil service.

An angry crowd of residents descended on two young men after they were nabbed stealing panties few days ago in Benin city, Edo state. 

The young men stole the two underwear and were looking for more to pick before they were apprehended along Sapele road in Benin. 

They were beaten by the residents who even forced them to burn the panties right in public. 

This is coming days after another young man was apprehended after stealing panties and other clothing items in Edo state.

The Hausa man popularly known as Aboki, stole the items at Lagos street in Ring road area, Benin city and was caught at Orominyan area by the residents.

Female leggings, boxers, underwear and other clothing items were also found in his possession.

Olowo flays government’s earmarking of N8.5bn on Nigeria Air in 2019 budget

PRESIDENT of the Aviation Round Table (ART), Elder Gabriel Olowo has maintained that Federal government was not toeing the right path on how it has gone about trying to establish a new national carrier and has flayed government’s planned N8.5bn for the suspended Nigeria Air in the 2019 budget proposal to the National Assembly.
Olowo made this known earlier today in Lagos at the launch of a book ‘The Learned Commander,’ authored by Capt. Dele Ore, an erstwhile Director of Operations of the defunct national carrier, Nigeria Airways at his 75th Birthday.

The ART President who made his views known at the book launch argued that government was doing the wrong thing setting aside N500m for Transaction Advisers in the budget, saying that a little of such an amount of money if allocated to technical professionals in the country, would give the government appropriate advice on how to go about the establishing a viable national carrier.

Olowo said: “I read it somewhere that the Federal Government proposed another N8.5bn for the establishment of a new national carrier for Nigeria in the 2019 budget proposal to the National Assembly. Out of this money, N500m was set aside for Transaction Advisers.
“If you give the N500m to people like Dele Ore and co, they will advice you better on how to have a befitting national carrier. However, ART as a body will continue to fight for the interest of the former staff of Nigeria Airways. We will continue to drum it to the ears of the government that what is due to them is paid.”
Also speaking in an interview with journalists, Capt. Ore, expressed sadness over the liquidation of the airline almost 16 years later, saying that the staff were poorly treated by the government.

He insisted that the government was wrongly advised on the liquidation of the airline, adding that another national carrier may not birth until all the former staff were properly remunerated by the government.
He explained that late Umaru Yar’Adua paid five years severance packages of the retired staff, while President Goodluck Jonathan who took over from him refused to pay the staff of the liquidated carrier.

He, however, lauded President Muhammadu Buhari for paying a part of the severance package, but lamented that he and a few others who retired before the airline was liquidated were still not properly paid their dues.
He said: “Nigeria Airways was all I know in my entire life. In fact, someone boasted that once they remove an aeroplane from me, I will be empty. I retired shortly before the airline was liquidated by the Federal Government. The government was ill-advised. It was a costly mistake. To liquidate the airline and not settling the staff was another crime against the staff.

“However, former President Umaru Yar’Adua did a bit by paying the five years severance packages, but Jonathan who was his vice when he took over did not do anything for the workers.

“But, what the government paid recently was just the tip of the iceberg. I for one, I have not been settled. I only received a part of what I am entitled to. I however say kudos to the President (Buhari), but more still needed to be done. This has allowed me to launch my book, which I have been writing in the past eight years. This is my ninth book. The book would be launched properly on March 28, 2019.”

NAMA installs ILS in Benin Airport, to commence Maiduguri, Jos , Minna installation

BENIN Airport has been installed with a new Category II Instrument Landing System (ILS) by the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) with plans to commence installation of CAT II ILS at Maiduguri, Jos and Minna airports in the northern parts of the country.
Managing Director of NAMA, Capt. Fola Akinkuotu, who made this revelation at a town hall meeting with staff at the agency’s headquarters annex in Ikeja Lagos, said this was in line with an earlier pledge by the agency to upgrade navigational infrastructure in strategic airports across the country in a bid to boost socio-economic activities in such areas.

Akinkuotu also announced that the agency has equally installed and commissioned the ILS at Port Harcourt airport which was damaged by an aircraft last year, saying that the flight commissioning which was handled by Omni-Blue Aviation Ltd indicated that the newly installed landing aids were operating at optimal capacity.

Capt. Akinkuotu informed staff that in line with management’s objective to maintain a healthy and productive workforce, the agency had concluded plans to enroll NAMA into the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) in the next two months just as he assured them that the contentious issue of review of Condition of Service (COS) was being handled and would soon be concluded by government.
The NAMA boss expressed gratitude to management and staff of the agency for the support and cooperation accorded him over the past two years of his ascendancy as managing director, saying that whatever successes his administration has recorded could not have been without the individual and collective effort of NAMA workers. While cautioning staff to desist from frivolous expenses, he enjoined them to “put in more effort to move NAMA to the next level,” stressing that the agency would recognize hard work by giving special awards to deserving members of staff

Quote:Atiku Abubakar, presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has described the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) as a “mafia organisation”, vowing to privatise it if elected.

Speaking in Lagos during an interactive session with the business community on Wednesday, Atiku said he would take the step even if doing so would cost him his life.

He explained that he sold the idea to ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo whom he deputised between 1999 and 2007 but that the former president did not approve of it.

Atiku said he is convinced that NNPC would run better if not managed by the government.

“Let me go back to my experience. When we got into office, I walked up to my boss and said “Sir, there are two mafia organisations in government: one is the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) while the other one is the National Electricity Power Authority (NEPA),” he said.

“I said unless we dismantle these mafia organisations, we cannot make progress. Let’s privatise them… the long and short of this is that I am committed to privitaisation as I have said. I swear even if they are going to kill me, I will do it (privatise NNPC).”

Atiku also spoke on how an expert in the petroleum sector influenced his stance on privatisation of NNPC.

“I asked a Nigerian professor based in America; I said ‘Prof, do you have ministry of petroleum in America?’ He said no,” he said.

“I said, ‘Do you have an organisation like NNPC over there?’ He said no. And America produces oil more than any country? He said yes.

“So I asked him, ‘How do they do it in America?’ and he said taxation and I decided that I will go by taxation too.”
Joined by Peter Obi, his running mate, Atiku fielded questions that ranged from the economy to security, health and unemployment.”

He also criticised the current administration for the delay in passing the petroleum industry governance bill (PIGB).

Atiku, who said the level of unemployment in the country is worrying, narrated his encounter with idle youth during his campaign rallies.

He said if left unchecked the lack of adequate jobs could create a bigger problem.

A Saudi man and two of his four wives have miraculously survived after a tragic car crash left them stranded in the scorching heat of the Saudi desert for 13 days reports the Riyadh Herald.
Mustafa Ali Hamad, 41, and his four wives were traveling to a family greeting near Ash Shalfa when they took a wrong turn during a sand storm and crashed their vehicle, which killed one of Hamad’s wife on the spot.
For three days, they were left in the hot scorching sun with barely any water and no food until Hamad decided to send two of his wives in search of help, himself not being able to do so because of his medical condition.
Both women roamed the desert during a gruesome ten days before finding help in a small village. Rescuers were shocked to find only the husband alive and his two other wives dead, of which he had fed upon to survive during his ordeal.

“I hope Allah can forgive me in this moment of weakness for eating the flesh of both of my deceased wives, but I could not control myself, I was so hungry,” he told reporters, in tears.

[size=undefined]During his 13-day ordeal, Hamad told journalists that he decided he had no other choice but to feed upon his deceased wife who had perished during the car accident, but that his other wife vehemently refused to do so and died three days later.[/size]

“I fear Allah’s judgment for what I have done but all my wives are devout Muslims and so I believed the flesh of their dead bodies to be halal (lawful or permissible)” he lamented during an interview.

Hamad also said that he fears authorities will punish him for his actions but that he has put his faith in Allah’s hands and that he is ready to confront whatever judgment will befall upon him.
Although it is not allowed to kill a human being under Islamic law with the specific intention of eating him, most Muslim scholars agree cannibalism is permitted, but only under special circumstances.[/size]

“It is not proper to eat human flesh unless the person makes sure that this act saves him from starving to death” one 12th century Muslim scholar, Ibn Al-Araby, wrote.

“It is also not permitted to perform sexual acts upon the dead person’s body unless it is the body of an Infidel,” Ibn Al-Araby also commented in his fundamental writing The doctrine of perfect man (Al-Insān al-Kāmil).
Hamad is presently under intensive medical care as doctors fear his overweight condition and diabetes may have put an enormous strain on his heart and vital organs.

A 29-year-old nurse is under fire after allegedly recording patients in labour inside maternity wards and sending the clips to her boyfriend.

The nurse identified as Kundai Chitate who works at Masvingo general hospital in Zimbabwe allegedly recorded screaming and groaning patients in labour and sent the audio clips to her boyfriend identified as Tichafara Mugumbate.

The Peoples Democratic Party’s Senatorial Candidate for Benue South, Abba Moro, on Tuesday criticised the ruling All Progressives Congress, saying that the party promised Nigerians change but ended up bringing pains and hardship to the people.


Moro stated this during the inauguration of his ward-to-ward campaign in Otukpo Local Government Area of the state.

He urged the people to vote for all the candidates of the PDP in the 2019 elections.

“The All Progressives Congress promised Nigerians change but ended up in bringing pain and hardship to Nigerians,” he said.

The former Minister of Interior challenged his opponents to name projects they attracted to Benue South while they were in power.

He added, “Many people will come here to seek your votes. They will call us names, they would say unprintable things against my person but we should not hesitate to ask them to name projects they were able to bring to our community while they were in power.


“We have a candidate who was a deputy governor for eight years. We have a candidate who was a Permanent Secretary for years. Kindly tell them to name people they empowered or projects they were able to put up in our land.

“I was doing well as lecturer before I ventured into politics, not because I was poor but because I needed to help my people back home.”

The former chairman of Okpokwu Local Government Area said he was able to create employment opportunities for people from Benue South as Minister of Interior under the last administration.


“Some of you can attest to the fact that I helped many of our sons and daughters, especially the youth while serving as a minister.

“If you go to Civil Defence, Fire Service, Immigration and Prisons, you will see our people there. I was able to fix them there as a minister.

The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) said on Wednesday, January 16, 2019, that inflation rate in Nigeria increased to 11.44 percent in the month of December 2018.

In its inflation report today, the stats office noted that the rate was 0.16 percent points higher than the rate recorded in November 2018, which stood at 11.28 percent, adding that increases were recorded in all COICOP divisions that yielded the headline index.

The NBS said on month-on-month basis, the headline index increased by 0.74 percent in December 2018, up by 0.06 percent points from the rate recorded in November 2018, 0.80 percent.

It explained that the percentage change in the average composite CPI for the 12 months period ending December 2018 over the average of the CPI for the previous 12 months period was 12.10 percent, showing 0.31 percent point from 12.41 percent recorded in November 2018.

In addition, the urban inflation rate increased by 11.73 percent (year-on-year) in December 2018 from 11.61 percent recorded in November 2018, while the rural inflation rate increased by 11.18 percent in December 2018 from 10.99 percent in November 2018.

On a month-on-month basis, the urban index rose by 0.76 percent in December 2018, down by 0.07 from 0.83 percent recorded in November 2018, while the rural index also rose by 0.72 percent in December 2018, down by 0.06 percent from the rate recorded in November 2018, 0.78 percent, the NBS report said.

Furthermore, the corresponding 12-month year-on-year average percentage change for the urban index was 12.51 percent in December 2018, less than 12.83 percent reported in November 2018, while the corresponding rural inflation rate in December 2018 was 11.75 percent compared with 12.05 percent recorded in November 2018.

Kaduna – About a month to the 2019 polls, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has disclosed that the names of all underage voters had been removed from its list to ensure that the upcoming election was free, fair, and credible.

The Resident Electoral Commissioner, INEC Kaduna, Abdullahi Kaigama, made the disclosure during an interactive session with religious leaders in Kaduna on Tuesday.

Kaigama noted that the build-up to the general election was quite tasking.

“With the support of the stakeholders, the elections will definitely be successful,” he said.

He urged that all registered voters who had not collected their Permanent Voter Cards should do so between January 16 and 21, 2019 at the designated centres in their wards.

Kaigama explained that after mandatory display of register in all polling units nationwide for claims and objections from November 6, to 12, 2018, number of registered voters stood at 84,004,084.

He said it was the same register that would be available at the polling units nationwide on election day.

According to him, “After January 21, the collection of PVCs will be reverted to the commission’s local government offices where registered voters can collect them up till February 8, 2019.

“The commission has modified the register of voters for the 2019 general elections accordingly. Consequently, the separate incident form used in previous elections is now abolished.”

While commending INEC in its laid down plans for the upcoming elections, the CAN chairman, Kaduna chapter, Rev. John Joseph Hayab, challenged INEC to walk the talk of transparency.

“The plans are good, and that should be backed with actions. INEC should be sincere, upright and the commission should be neutral in the coming elections,” Hayab admonished.

He also called on Nigerians to have confidence in INEC and promised to use his position to support the commission for a successful outing in the 2019 elections.

The total pension assets under the Contributory Pension Scheme rose to N8.49tn as of the end of November 2018 financial period, latest figures obtained from the National Pension Commission on Tuesday revealed.


The pension commission said 72.5 per cent of the fund had been borrowed by the Federal Government and invested in the FGN securities totalling N6.16tn during the period under review.

The Pension Fund Administrators also invested 6.87 per cent or N584.321bn of the fund in domestic ordinary shares, while 0.71 or N60.529bn of the fund was invested in foreign ordinary shares.

According to the Pension Reform Act, the PFAs manage the funds which are in the custody of the Pension Fund Custodians.

The commission stated that it continued its consultative philosophy in the regulation and supervision of the industry.


According to PenCom, the risk-based examination approach was implemented as a way of promoting transparency and providing early warning signals as well as encouraging pension operators to regularly self-evaluate their positions.

The Acting Director-General, PenCom, Mrs Aisha Dahir-Umar, said in an effort to promote a stable and sustainable pension industry, the commission adopted zero tolerance for non-compliance and consultative supervisory philosophy in the issuance of guidelines and the review of existing ones to further promote sound corporate governance in the industry and ensure the security of the pension assets.

In addition, she said, the commission in 2018, moved to a more risk-based approach to supervising pension operators by aligning its supervisory framework with that of the Financial Services Regulation Coordinating Committee.

“We believe this will promote better risk management in licensed pension operators,” she stated.

She said the commission, last year, released the framework and guidelines for the implementation of the micro pension scheme, which was targeted at increased participation of employees in the informal sector, multi-fund structure and revised guideline for fund accounting as well as revised circular for branch opening and service centre by the PFAs.


“Similarly, circulars on pension enhancement and processing procedures of deceased benefits entitlement were also released by the commission,” she stated.

According to her, the monitoring and reporting of non-compliance with regards to the implementation of these guidelines and other existing regulations remained part of the responsibilities of the compliance officers.

The acting director-general said the commission would continue with its consultative philosophy, transparency and good corporate governance in the implementation of the CPS in Nigeria.

19-year-old Nigerian man remanded in prison for allegedly defiling sisters aged 6 & 8






A19-year-old man, Andrew Chinedu, has been remanded in prison over his alleged defilement of two of his sisters aged eight and six years.
Chinedu was yesterday arraigned before the Ogudu magistrate court where the magistrate, Mrs E. Kubeinje, ordered that he be remanded in prison for 65 days pending the receipt of legal advice from the State Director of Public Prosecutions, DPPs. 
 
Chinedu, an apprentice who resides in Irawo, was dragged before the magistrate court on a two-count charge of child defilement and sexual assault.
 
The police prosecutor, Inspector Lucky Ihiehie, told the court that the accused committed the offences between the months of June 2018 and September 2018 at Abayomi Street, Irawo, in Ajegunle area of Ikorodu in Lagos State.  Ihiehie said the Lagos State Domestic and Social Violence Office, which initially handled the case and confirmed the violation of the girls, referred the father to report the case to the Police. Ihiehie said that the accused lived in the same compound with the parents of the girls. According to him, when the older of the siblings was questioned, she claimed that the accused normally calls her into his room when her parents were not around to have sex with her.

We Can’t Win War against Corruption by Undermining Law, Onaiyekan Cautions

Catholic Archbishop of Abuja, John Cardinal Onaiyekan, has admonished the federal government not to ignore basic human rights or bye-pass the rule of law in its fight against corruption and other social vices in the country.

He also stated that in their drive to maintain internal peace, the Armed Forces should put power behind justice and good governance, and never support any form of injustice or bad governance.


In the message issued yesterday by the cleric to mark this year’s Armed Forces Remembrance Day celebration, Onayeikan said the search for peace and overall stability of the country would be futile in the absence of justice and good governance.

According to him, “We cannot successfully prosecute a war against indiscipline by locking up innocent people for months in dungeons without legal recourse. For the same reason, we cannot hope to win the war against corruption by ignoring or bye-p≠≠assing basic human rights to the rule of law.”

Onayeikan said leaders must learn lessons from January 15, 1966, historic event which marked the beginning of military rule in the country.

The clergyman said one of the key lessons to be learned from the events of January 15, 1966, is that “we should not misuse our armed forces and our military resources.”

He said the armed forces in Nigeria are made up of men and women “who have volunteered to keep us safe even at the risks of their own lives, and often at high costs to their families.”

However, Onayeikan said the armed forces are placed under the Ministry of Defense and not Ministry of Aggression so that they can defend the country and its citizens.

Regarding the conflict in the Northeast, the cleric advised the federal government to ensure that the military is well equipped to prosecute the war against the insurgents.

He also called for proper investigation into complaints by the soldiers with a view to addressing any anomaly.

While recollecting the events that led to military takeover in 1966, Onaiyekan said the country must imbibe the lessons of instability and injustice, the futility of violence and the imperative of personal conversion and social moral revolution.

“We hope we have by now learned our lesson and that we will no longer allow such misuse of our armed forces and our military resources. I do not know why January 15 has been chosen as the Armed Forces Remembrance Day. But to many people like me, it brings strong memories of that critical day-January 15, 1966,” he
said.

President Muhammadu Buhari and the Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki, yesterday in Abuja condemned the latest bandit attacks in Gandi District of Rabah Local Government Council, Sokoto State, which claimed 30 lives.

Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Malam Garba Shehu, last night, said Buhari was shocked and saddened by the latest violence which he described as “utterly evil, callous, reckless, thoughtless and reprehensible.”


He said the president lamented that: “The persistent killing of innocent and defenceless villagers by murderous thugs is unacceptable, and my administration is leaving no stone unturned to track down these mass murderers and bring them to justice.”

Shehu said the president gave a firm instruction to the new Acting Inspector General of Police, Adamu Mohammed, to quickly bring on board joint operations that will rid the country of all forms of criminal activities.

He also said Buhari approved meetings between security and defence officials from Nigeria and neighbouring Niger Republic for joint operations that will sweep the forests.

According to him, the president assured the people of Sokoto State and other areas affected by banditry that his administration’s commitment to security ‘remains undiminished’ and that ‘efforts are being made to improve intelligence gathering and rapid emergency response strategies.’

He also quoted him as saying, “Let me reassure the people of Sokoto State and other parts of the country facing security challenges that no citizen will be abandoned to their fate. Security occupies the centre stage of my administration’s policies, and this commitment is being pursued with more vigour as we make efforts to provide more equipment to our security personnel to enable them perform the task effectively.”

The statement added, “While consoling the families of the victims, President Buhari reassured the people that “criminals won’t be allowed to hold the citizens to ransom and that poverty is no excuse for any group to take up arms against innocent people and kill them in cold blood.”

“The President said that he will ensure the murderers, who are already in police custody, are speedily prosecuted in order to send a clear message that nobody will get away with such heinous crimes.

“President Buhari called on state and local governments to stop their holier-than-thou attitude and ensure the mass mobilisation of all citizens to assist security agents, noting that security is everybody’s business.” In a related development, Saraki has also condemned the gruesome killing of dozens of innocent Nigerians by suspected bandits in Sokoto State.

He has, therefore, called on the nation’s security agencies to immediately secure the area and apprehend the perpetrators of the dastardly act.

Saraki, in a statement issued yesterday, described the killings as worrisome and disheartening, adding that the wanton loss of human lives that occurs in Zamfara State is now making its way into Sokoto State and other adjoining states in the North West zone.

He called on the security forces to take urgent measures to rout the notorious bandits so as to halt their incessant attacks against innocent citizens in all states in the North-west zone in particular and across the country in general.

The Senate president insisted that necessary efforts must be intensified to secure all Nigerians irrespective of whether they are in North-west, North-east and all other geo-political zones of the country, especially as the elections draw close.

He commiserated with the government and people of Sokoto State, while also praying for the repose of the souls of the victims who lost their lives in the incident and prayed for quick recovery of those who suffered varied degrees of injuries.

Saraki called on the governors of the North-west states to come together and partner the security agencies in order to find lasting solution to the activities of “these monsters now making life unbearable for innocent citizens in the geo-political zone.”

FG Defers Final Decision on Minimum Wage

A special Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting presided over by President Muhammadu Buhari in the State House yesterday failed to conclude decision on national minimum wage.


This is coming as President Muhammadu Buhari has launched a new Nigerian international passport with enhanced security and 10-year validity.

Apparently due to the crucial importance of governors to the national minimum wage issue, the council resolved that it would take final decision on it after the National Executive Council (NEC), a body of governors presided over by Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo, would have deliberated over the matter.

Making this disclosure after the meeting, the Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, admitted that the matter of minimum wage was deliberated upon at yesterday’s FEC meeting but declined answering questions on deliberations on the issue.

He said: “I cannot because it is work in progress. It would also be discussed by the National Economic Council (NEC) before we can brief the media.”

On Monday, the organised labour staged nationwide protests to compel the federal government to send a bill which provides for N30,000 as the new minimum wage to the National Assembly.

Also yesterday, Buhari launched a new Nigerian international passport with enhanced security. The passport has 10 years validity.

Speaking on the passport, the Comptroller General of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Mohammad Babandede, said the new passport contained enhanced features which he said would facilitate security management.

According to him, the new passport with a new parttern will bring discipline in the system, adding however, that both the new and the old passports will be used concurrently.

He said the new passport with 32 pages, would cost N25, 000 and $130 abroad; a 64-page passport for five years will cost N35, 000 and $150 abroad while the 64-page copy with 10 years validity will cost N70, 000 in Nigeria and $230 abroad.

“The new passport reform programme is weather friendly, International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) compliant. It has polycarbonate technology that eliminates damage, enhanced security features and will save Nigerians in the Diaspora time of frequent visit to Nigerian Embassy among others.”

Akwa Ibom State Governor, Udom Emmanuel, has assured workers that the state would pay the new minimum wage, as soon as the Federal Government adopts it.

He gave the pledge during an interactive session with the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Trade Union Congress (TUC), United Labour and other affiliated unions in the state.

The governor acknowledged the contributions of labour to the implementation of government policies, describing the workforce as the bedrock of development in any nation.


According to him: “Labour is the key to development. You cannot relegate labour to the background. Minimum wage has never been an issue; it is just that it has been a matter of legislation.

“In the face of circumstances and what we face in this country, I have done my best to make sure that workers do not suffer. I pay salaries in circumstances that I do not receive allocation. The people did not elect me to make excuses, but to find solution to problems.”

Emmanuel added: “The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has the best blueprint for workers in the country. We need your support in the usual manner to support us in the coming elections.”

State Chairman of the NLC, Etim Ukpong, commended the governor for prompt payment of salaries, and labour-friendly atmosphere.

Meanwhile, the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state has accused the PDP of operating a fake WhatsApp platform to adopt the manifestoes of its governorship candidate, and that of the First Lady, Aisha Buhari.

State Chairman of the APC, Iniobong Okopido, made the allegation at a press conference in the party’s secretariat along Ikot Ekpene road Uyo yesterday.

He claimed that the PDP in desperate moves to confuse the people to vote for the party used the said WhatsApp platform to feed the electorate with lies.

He cited a screenshot: ‘Udom Till 2023,’ where the state Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Ini Ememobong, instructed his people to create the account, using key APC leaders to make fake, dubious and criminal conversations.

But, the PDP Publicity Secretary said no such WhatsApp group exists to the party’s knowledge, adding that the party had never given such imaginary instruction.

He said the party would not be distracted by Ememobong’s allegation, with few weeks to the general elections.

“For the purpose of record setting may we state as follows, that the WhatsApp chats unintelligently referred to by Ini Okopido are manifestly fake and absolutely useless. The said piece is totally unhelpful to their cause,” he said.

NO MORE PRICE TO PAY.

For scarcely for a righteous man will one die: yet peradventure for a good man some would even dare to die. But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us (Romans 5:7-8).

Some Christians believe they have to “pay a price” to get God’s approval, attain certain blessings or get to certain heights in their lives, but it doesn’t work that way. Some even have the notion that praying and fasting is a form of price to be paid to experience a greater measure of the anointing, but that isn’t right. Prayer and fasting is for devotional purpose.

If you’re planning on paying a price for the anointing or anything for which Jesus already died, then you don’t believe what Jesus already paid was enough. No more sacrifice is required for you to walk in, and manifest the glory of God. Think about this: God said to Abraham in Genesis 12:2, “And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing.” This was simply God’s choice.

Abraham didn’t do anything to impress God first before God chose to make him great. The Lord said this to him even before he believed, and his believing was accounted for righteousness. Coming over to the New Testament, it’s the same thing; it’s about Christ and all that He’s already accomplished for us. It’s not about our works. The Bible says not of works, lest any man should boast (Ephesians 2:9).

Colossians 1:12 (NIV) says, “giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of the saints in the kingdom of light.”
What a marvel this is! We couldn’t qualify by ourselves to become heirs of God and partakers of the divine nature. Neither your good works nor your self-righteousness was good enough to qualify you for the divine heritage you have in Christ. Therefore, there’s no need striving or struggling to be good enough for God. Simply accept all that Jesus did for you. He paid the price for you to have, and enjoy all things that pertain to life and godliness. Therefore, live in His glory. Hallelujah!
