Quote:Many people have been killed in an ongoing terrorist attack at hotel in Nairobi, Kenya.

The terrorist attack which is still ongoing at an upscale hotel complex in Kenya’s capital has left many people dead.

AP reported that, Kenyan police officer among attack’s 1st responders says he saw bodies but ‘no time to count the dead’

It was gathered that the attack started with a blast and heavy gunfire. Witnesses and police at the scene are calling it a terror attack.

The complex in Nairobi includes a large hotel known as DusitD2, banks and offices. Several vehicles are burning. People are being rushed and carried from the scene while gunfire continues several minutes after the first reports.

Police spokesman Charles Owino says that “we have sent officers to the scene, including from the anti-terrorism unit, but so far we have no more information.” Ambulances, security forces and firefighters have rushed to the scene, sirens wailing.

The attack reminds many Kenyans of the Westgate Mall attack in Nairobi in 2013, when al-Shabab extremists burst into the luxury shopping center, hurling grenades and starting a days-long siege that left 67 people dead.

A Kenyan police officer who was among the first responders at the at Dusit Hotel attack says he saw bodies but ‘no time to count the dead’.

Night has fallen and it is not immediately clear whether attackers are still active in the complex and how many people might be trapped or hiding inside.

The Somalia-based extremist group al-Shabab is claiming responsibility for the attack on an upscale hotel complex in Nairobi and says its members are still

GUNSHOTS AND STABBING AS VIOLENCE ERUPTS AGAIN AT THE APC PRESIDENTIAL WOMEN AND YOUTH COMPAIGN RALLY IN OWERRI.

Many APC supporters were injured as violence broke out at the presidential rally for Women and Youth in the IMO state capital, Owerri earlier on January 12, 2019

Nigeria’s current president, and presidential candidate of the APC Muhammadu Buhari and his wife Aisha were surprisingly absent.

Their absence may not be unconnected with security reports which indicated that the type of mayhem that occurred in Lagos may be repeated at today’s event.

Instead, the Wife of the President insisted the wife of the Vice President, Mrs Dolapo Osinbajo represent her at the event.

Trouble started when supporters of the Uzodinma and Okorocha factions clashed.

The brawl which lasted several minutes, was only contained after an exchange of gunfire.
Many are reported to have suffered a variety of injuries including Stab wounds and gunshot injuries but no one has been reported dead.

The audition dates for prospective housemates has also been announced – it will be holding on February 1st and 2nd across 8 cities including Lagos, Ibadan, Benin, Enugu, Calabar, Warri, Port Harcourt and Abuja.

We reported before now that a source said that the reality show was put on hold, due to the forthcoming general elections in February. According to him, it was because the show itself usually gets twisted and the sponsors don’t want to mix it up with politics in anyway.

Its good its his same SW brothers that blasted him

So no calling of ipobs here

Quote:Speaking with journalists in Lagos, Jamiu said Buhari should not be described anywhere as tribalistic, adding that if he was, he would not have honoured his father 25 years after the annulment of the election.

He urged the Yoruba to reelect Buhari on February 16 so as not to betray Abiola and his slain wife, Kudirat, in their graves.

He said, “People have to understand that any man that can honour a victory won by another man from another tribe is not a tribalist. If he was tribalistic, he would not have done what he did to M.K.O Abiola.

“Buhari had even said in the letter of honour that June 12 is more important than the Independence Day, Nigerians should understand that and I believe that the Yoruba that I know will not betray Chief M.K.O Abiola in his grave by voting against a man who honoured him.

“The Yoruba are known to appreciate and value anybody who genuinely does something good for them genuinely.’’

From Gistvic.com

Nigerian rapper and singer, Falz has condemned prostitution , adding that he hates transactional sex.

Falz who recently released the lead single ‘Talk’ off his new album ‘Moral Instruction’ has reawakened barrage of criticisms over his stance regarding prostitution.

Majority of his fans on Twitter highlighted the lyrics:

Quote:”Instead make you work, you dey find Alhaji, You come turn your body to cash and carry”

and slammed the rapper for condemning ladies who have made a choice with what to do with their bodies. Gistvic Reports.

Reacting over the criticisms at a media parley for his new album,

Falz said:

Quote:“Oh wow, feminist in the building. Shamelessly, I’ll continue to say it, I detest transactional sex. It’s my pain, it’s what I believe in. You’ll continue to hear it in my music whether you like it or not. And I’ll explain to you. Now the same feminist that will say the woman is free to do what she wants to do and who am I to tell the woman not to put herself up for money, the same feminist that will say that women are being objectified and that is not allowed. Now you are that same person that is going ahead to commodify yourself, you’ve turned yourself into a commodity. Self-objectification, self-commodification, I detest it and I’ll continue to detest it. Their argument often is that iI speak about the runs girls and I don’t often talk about the guys or the aristo men or whatever, if you’re going to talk about an epidemic, obviously you’re going to use the more popular scenario, the more relatable scenario and that is why I always use the runs girls scenario."

A Zambian man who suspected his wife of cheating on him finally caught her with another man.

According to reports, the Zambian man was away on a business trip and the wife invited her lover, who kept her company.

The husband on returning home from his business, was speechless on seeing a man who was only on singlets with his wife in his sitting room.

The Zambian man instead of disgracing them publicly, was heard telling them to apologize but the unremorseful wife blatantly refused.

Internet users have reacted to the trending video as some hailed the man for not beating the wife or disgracing her while others lambasted him for the childish display of asking for an apology on camera.

Protesters Demand Probe Of Akpabio For Omitting To Declare Assets
User Avatar Forum: News
Posted by: Edoman - 01-15-2019, 11:25 AM - No Replies

Quote:Godswill Akpabio, lawmaker representing Akwa Ibom North West at the Senate, has been accused of allegedly omitting to declare some assets traced him.

Mr Akpabio, a former governor of Akwa Ibom State, was accused by protesters under the aegis of Civil Society Groups for Accountability and Probity on Monday, same day the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Walter Onnoghen, was arraign for similar offence.

The protesters who demanded the probe of the former governor made the accusation in a petition submitted at the zonal office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in Wuse 2, Abuja, on Monday.

Jonathan Ogwuche, who spoke on behalf of the group said the lawmaker had in 2017 claimed to to have eight buildings, while in 2011 he declared 10 buildings.

“Curiously however and of worrisome note, in 2016 following an investigative report by an online media, it was alleged that he was among those with properties in Dubai.

“Contrary to claims by Sen. Akpabio, the ‘following outlandish properties’ located at the under-listed addresses could also be traced to him as follows:

“1. Plot 5 Ikogosi Spring Close, off Katsina-Ala Crescent, Maitama-Abuja; 2. Plot 28 Colorado Close, Maitama; 3. 22 Probyn Road, Ikoyi, Lagos and 4. Plot 23 Olusegun Aina Street, Parkview, Lagos.”

Ogwuche said the properties ”are conspicuously missing in the asset declaration of the former governor”.

“With the exception of a Bedford armour bus which he claimed to be a gift, cars declared in 2007 were copied and pasted in 2011. This doesn’t represent the reality on ground as he is known to move about in a fleet of cars.”

The protesters claimed a son of the former governor ”who is said to have a property in Abuja (in 2007 declaration) at Games village acquired on 1-1-2005 worth a value of N16.9 million has an annual income of just N350,000, while in 2011 declaration, the value remained unchanged”.

“The source of the house is questionable. We can incontrovertibly submit that Senator Akpabio freely dished out the finances of Akwa Ibom State to his children, friends and other family members while corruptly enriching himself with same at the detriment of the state,” the group added.

Akpabio has so far dismissed the allegations.

“This is not the first time we are going to EFCC. We have been responding to petitions since we left office in 2015,” Anietie Ekong, a media aide to the former governor was quoted by Premium Times as saying while responding to the allegation.

Mr Ekong said the petitioners were pursuing a ‘political vendetta’. He added that previous petitions had been withdrawn “by their originators because of lack of evidence”.

Akpabio who served as two term governor of the state and elected senator on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has dumped the now opposition party to the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) last year.

He is one of the those championing the re-election campaign of President Muhammadu Buhari.

2 Govs, Buhari’s Aides Linked To Petition Against Onnoghen

2 Govs, Buhari’s Aides Linked To Petition Against Onnoghen
Tuesday, January 15, 2019  NEW

Dennis Aghanya, Executive Secretary, Anti-Corruption and Research-Based Data Initiative (ARDI), and author of the petition against Walter Onnoghen, Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), may not have acted alone in the controversial petition at the Code of Conduct Tribunal where the number one judicial officer is currently being tried over failure to declare some offshore bank accounts, Daily Independent can authoritatively reveal.

Aghanya, a former aide to President Muhammadu Buhari and Publicity Secretary to defunct Congress for Progressive Change (CPC), claimed in his petition to the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB) that his petition was at the behest of his organisation, ARDI.

But details made available by competent sources to Akelicious revealed that the content of the petition to the CCT might not have come from his ARDI group.

Rather, two governors from the North Central and North West regions, along with key members of the presidency and some party stalwarts are alleged to have sourced for the damaging information on the CJN’s records at the CCB and sponsored the petition through Aghanya.

The two governors are also alleged to have been behind a clandestine coalition which pressured President Muhammadu Buhari not to sign the Electoral Bill which would have legalised e-voting.

One of the governors is said to be youthful while the other, diminutive. The latter is always in the news over sectarian clashes in his state.

The sources alleged that both men put Aghanya up to lead a coalition of 24 civil societies to convene a press conference in November last year to condemn use of card readers for voting, stating that the process would allow hackers to hijack the electoral process.

“Details on Onnoghen revealed in the petition with private account matters could only have been sourced by financial security agencies, the Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit (NFIU), the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), or from the CCB itself,” explained a highly placed source in the presidency.

“The contents of asset declaration at the CCB are private, non-accessible by the public. But the specifics of Aghanya’s petition reveal one who had complete access to the CJN’s financial dossier which, if it were in the CCB, should be private, by law”, he said.

For instance, Aghanya, giving example of infractions by the CJN on the non-declaration of the offshore account, stated: ‘To give specific examples, here are some instances of cash deposits by Justice Onnoghen: Justice Onnoghen made five different cash deposits of $10,000 each on 8th March 2011 into Standard Chartered Bank Account 1062650; On 7th June 2011, two separate cash deposits of $5000 each were made by Justice Walter Onnoghen, followed by four cash deposits of $10,000 each; On 27th June 2011, Justice Onnoghen made another set of five separate cash deposits of $10,000 each and made four more cash deposits of $10,000 each on the following day, 28th June 2011.”

The petitioner further revealed details of the petition, stating thus: ‘The Code of Conduct Bureau Forms (Form CCB 1) of Hon. Justice Walter Onnoghen for 2014 and 2016 were dated and filed on the same day. The acknowledgement slip for Declarant SCN: 000014 was issued on 14th December 2016. The acknowledgement slip for Declarant SCN: 000015 was also issued on 14th December 2016, at which point Justice Onnoghen had become the Chief Justice of Nigeria.’

“Only one with access to details of a private account of another individual could give such details,” explained the newspaper source.

Ironically, ARDI, Aghanya’s organisation, on June 21, bestowed on Acting Chairman, EFCC, Ibrahim Magu, ‘Government Agency Excellence Award’.

According to ARDI, the award was in recognition of Magu’s doggedness and commitment to the anti-corruption crusade, and for “distinguishing himself in the anti-graft campaign.”

This was at a time when the commission was being pilloried over perceived selective fight against corruption.

In November last year, Aghanya further demonstrated that he had access to thinking in top government circle. Leading a coalition of NGOs named C24, at press conference in a hotel in Abuja, he raised fears over the vulnerability of the Independent National Electoral Commission’s electoral process by sophisticated IT hackers.

In short, C24, led by Aghanya and ARDI, campaigned against the signing of the Electoral Amendment Bill still on the president’s table at the time and which would have given legal backing to the use of card readers in voting and electronic transmission of result. Again, this mirrored an earlier position by intelligence agencies a few months earlier on the same matter.

Aghanya alleged that the card reader would allow politicians to hijack the electoral process. C24 said that it was aware that politicians have hired sophisticated hackers from Asian countries with a view to invading the IT mainframes of INEC so as to alter election result in favour of their preferred candidate on election day.

According to the group, this is just a second step in the series of plans to undermine the 2019 general election in February.

“The end game is to remote-control the outcome of our elections in 2019 by hacking INEC servers and taking control of her website to upload fictitious result in favour of their pay masters, thereby determining electoral outcomes against the run of ballots, contrary to the expressed will of voters,” explained Aghanya.

He went ahead to link steps by politicians and some civil rights group to enforce 100 percent electronic voting in 2019 as part of the plot.

Again, when the National Assembly had a face-off with the president over the lack of due process on the purchase of $496 million aircraft from the US, Aghanya appealed to the leadership of the National Assembly to show understanding.

“For anyone to think of impeachment process against him is not right. We have many problems at hand. Violation of a constitutional provision is bad but it is worse to act in an immoral manner,” Aghanya had said.

Aghanya was Buhari’s aide between 2009 and 2011 and the pioneer national publicity secretary of the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC). He is also the founding member of The Buhari Organisation (TBO).

Court Halts Chief Justice Onnoghen’s Arraignment

Meanwhile, a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja on Monday restrained the Federal Government from arraigning Justice Walter Onnoghen, the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), before the Code of Conduct Tribunal in Abuja.

Earlier on Monday, Justice Onnoghen failed to appear before the Umar Danladi-led three-man panel of justices at the Code of Conduct Tribunal.

Onnoghen had argued through his team of defence lawyers that the charge against him and its service were defective. Thus he could not appear in court.

The CJN’s legal team was led by Chief Wole Olanipekun (SAN) and 42 other Senior Advocates.

The Federal Government had last Friday filed a six-count criminal charge against the CJN over allegation that he failed to declare his assets. He was also charged for money laundering offences.

However, whilst hearing in the suit at the CCT was ongoing, two separate suits were filed at the Federal High Court challenging the validity of the charge instituted against the CJN at the CCT, demanding an order that the arraignment should be stopped pending the determination of a motion on notice in that respect.

One of the suits with number FHC/ABJ/CS/27/2019 was filed by the Incorporated Trustees of the Centre for Justice and Peace Initiative. The other suit with number FHC/ABJ/CS/28/2019 was filed by Incorporated Trustees of the International Association of Student Economists and Management.

Ruling on the motion ex parte, Justice N. Maha ordered the parties to maintain status quo ante until January 17, directing that the defendants be served with all court processes and that they should appear in court same day.

Malam Abubakar Malami (SAN), the Attorney General of the Federation and Minster of Justice; Justice Danladi Umar, Chairman Code of Conduct Tribunal; the National Judicial Council (NJC); Mr. Ibrahim Idris, the Inspector General of Police; and Dr. Bukola Saraki, the Senate President, were defendants in the suit with number FHC/ABJ/CS/27/2019.

In the second suit, the defendants, save the Senate President, are also the Attorney General of the Federation, the Chairman of the Code of Conduct Tribunal as well as the Inspector General of Police.

The ex parte motion in suit number FHC/ABJ/CS/27/2019 was moved by Mr. R.A Rabana (SAN), while Jeph Njikonye moved the second motion ex parte in suit number FHC/ABJ/CS/28/2019.

Meanwhile, the scheduled arraignment of the CJN at the CCT was stalled on Monday following the defendant’s absence in court.

The CJN was to be arraigned before Justice Umar over allegation of non-declaration of assets.

Specifically, Justice Onnoghen is being accused by the Federal Government of failing to declare his assets as required by law and for operating domiciliary foreign currency accounts.

While the CJN’s team of defence counsels was led by Chief Olanipekun (SAN) and 42 other SANs, the prosecution team was led by Aliyu Umar (SAN) for the Federal Government.

After announcing appearance, Olanipekun informed the court of the defendant’s application challenging the CCT’s jurisdiction to entertain the matter.

He argued that service of the charge was not effected on Justice Onnoghen personally as required by law.

Olanipekun further submitted that the whole process was defective and that the CJN cannot be in court when he was challenging the validity of the proceeding.

Reacting, the CCT registrar said he took the summons to the residence of the CJN, and that he directed his personal assistant to receive the summons on his behalf.

“The PA, who introduced himself as Sunday Osai, signed and endorsed the summons on behalf of the CJN,” the registrar said.

But Olanipekun continued, informing the court that the application challenging the jurisdiction of the CCT to countenance the charge was filed on January 14.

“Our application is on protest and we have served the complainant/respondent; and if he is ready, we are ready to proceed,” Olanipekun added.

The prosecution counsel, however, opposed the motion on three grounds.

Umar contented that in a criminal trial there should be an arraignment first before any application is entertained; secondly, the application was not ripe for hearing and thirdly, the defendant was not in court.

At this juncture, the CCT sought to know why Justice Onnoghen was not in court.

Replying, Olanipekun submitted that “where service of criminal charge and jurisdictions of CCT are challenged, the defendant needed not appear in court,” saying, “It is settled law.”

The Tribunal’s Code of Conduct was referred to and the defence team was requested to be guided as to and when the tribunal granted leave for arraignment.

Olanipekun, however, argued that before a date for arraignment of a defendant could be fixed, the CCT must grant leave for such.

When showed a copy of the order, Olanipekun pointed out that it was addressed to the prosecution and that the defendant was not even served as required under CCT’s practice direction.

To further support his argument, Olanipekun referred the court to section123 of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act 2015 on the appropriate method of effecting service.

“If an individual is involved, service of summons must be personal, except if there is an order of substituted service,” Olanipekun argued referring to the said section.

He added, “It is strange that the prosecution counsel is talking about arraignment when the defendant is not properly served.

“We are not to brush the law aside. The whole process is incompetent and the law must be adhered to. Therefore, we urge the CCT to uphold the dignity and sanctity of the law by admitting that the process was defective.”

Reacting, Umar said the CJN chose that his PA should accept the service, insisting that “there is no law that says a defendant can challenge jurisdictions without being present in court.”

While insisting that the CJN must appear in court, the prosecution counsel restated that “the defendant having directed his PA to receive the court summons on his behalf, cannot come back and say he was not served.

“But if they are contesting, the court can order for another proper service.”

Responding, Olanipekun said, “We are talking about what the law says and not what Umar thinks is the law.”

But Umar cited section 396(a) ACJA, which provides that after plea has been taken, the defendant can raise any issue, insisting that the defendant has to be present in court before any application could be taken.

After listening to counsels, the CCT chairman ordered that a fresh service be effected on the CJN, and adjourned till January 22 for arraignment and hearing of pending applications.

Afenifere Lauds Nigerians For Rising Against Alleged Dictatorship

The pan-Yoruba socio-political organisation, Afenifere, on Monday said Nigerians deserved commendations for rising against the dictatorship of the All Progressives Congress (APC) led Federal Government.

The group said the ordeal of the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Walter Onnoghen, in the hands of the Muhammadu Buhari administration officials did not come to it as a surprise.

It also commended the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), civil society organisations, and Nigerians for speaking out against the affliction of the CJN.

Speaking with Daily Independent, Yinka Odumakin, the organisation’s National Publicity Secretary, said Justice Onnoghen had given judgment against President Buhari in the past, so the president was not comfortable with him as the CJN.

Odumakin said the president was afraid that constitutional issues might arise which may be resolved by the Supreme Court.

Odumakin explained: “We are not surprised because given the fact that Onnoghen is from the five percent part of Nigeria and not from 97%, President Buhari could not have been comfortable with him as the Chief Justice of Nigeria fearing that issues might arise constitutionally and it has to go through the Supreme Court.”

Meanwhile, the Peoples Democratic Party Presidential Campaign Organisation (PPCO) argued on Monday that desperation by President Muhammadu Buhari and APC to win the 2019 election was the reason they wanted Justice Onnoghen out.

The party noted that Buhari presidency and the APC, in their venture, had exposed their desperation to subdue and annex the judiciary.

Accusing President Buhari and the APC of desperation in the assault against the judiciary, PPCO, in a statement by its Director, Media and Publicity, Kola Ologbondiyan, said it was despicable that rather than retracing their steps from the ignoble act against the CJN, after the spontaneous public outrage that trailed the shameful act, the APC and the Buhari presidency were attempting to blackmail Nigerians who condemned the assault on the judiciary as being sympathetic to corruption.

“The Buhari presidency and the APC, in this venture, have exposed their desperation to subdue and annex the judiciary, particularly, following increasing agitation by Nigerians for the prosecution of President Buhari’s cronies and APC leaders over exposed corruption.

“The Buhari presidency and APC in turning around to fight Nigerians have further exposed their desperation to replace Justice Onnoghen with a pliable CJN, who will execute their plots to use the courts to detain opposition leaders as well as vocal members of the civil society during the elections.

“It is now crystal clear to all Nigerians that apart from failing woefully in all its promises, the APC and its presidential candidate, President Buhari, are beginning to manifest their autocratic attributes,” the party said.

Labelling Buhari’s government as corrupt, the PDP campaign organisation said that Buhari’s presidency was not only corrupt, but was also an asylum for corrupt people.

“The PPCO, therefore, challenges the APC and the Buhari presidency to name one APC member that has been investigated, prosecuted or arraigned before any court of competent jurisdiction in the last three and half years in spite of their humongous corruption.

“If for anything, President Muhammadu Buhari has encouraged corruption in our nation more than any president that had the privilege of governing our country, Nigeria.

“It is important to restate that the Buhari presidency is now a refugee camp for known and well-advertised faces of corruption. From the factional National Chairman of the APC, the co-chairman of the Buhari Campaign Organisation, the Director General of the Buhari Campaign, the zonal directors and the recent entrants from Bauchi and Gombe states, all leaders of the APC and Buhari campaign structure are all candidates of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).”

Agbakoba, Mahmoud, Akintola: CJN’s non-appearance at CCT in order
Tuesday, January 15, 2019  NEW

                            [Image: 3ux7OIY_BA-lWPpwuvbTMyBnslWYdYB_rcg5qFt7...iR4Qw=s0-d]
Two former Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) Presidents Dr Olisa Agbakoba (SAN) and Abubakar Mahmoud (SAN), as well as Chief Adeniyi Akintola (SAN) yesterday backed the non-appearance of Chief Justice Walter Onnoghen at the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT).

This was as a professor of law Yemi Akinseye-George described the charge of non-declaration of assets as “incompetent”.

They spoke in separate interviews with our correspondents.

Agbakoba said: “The CJN did not appear before the CCT mainly on grounds that there was no personal service of the charges, a point conceded by learned prosecution counsel.

“But more important, no one is obliged to obey an unconstitutional document or direction.

“So, as the President enjoys official immunity from prosecution by virtue of the Constitution, the CJN cannot be compelled to appear before the Tribunal in exactly the same way President Buhari cannot be compelled to appear in court as he is protected by constitutional immunity.

“The only way to proceed against the CJN is to either approach the NJC or Senate.

“In respect of the Senate, the procedure is that an impeachment process will be held.

“So, these are only two lawful methods to summon the CJN before a court,” he said.

Mahmoud said Chief Justice Onnoghen’s non-appearance at the CCT must have been based on advice from his lawyers. To him, he must have been properly advised.

The SAN added: “The charges don’t really look credible. The Bar association has condemned it and that is the correct position.”

On the CJN’s non-appearance at the CCT, Mahmoud said: “I’m sure he must have been properly advised by his legal team.”

Akintola said Chief Justice Onnoghen or any other defendant is perfectly within his legal right to not enter appearance in a criminal trial unless and until he is personally served with the charge.

He said: “The CJN’s non-appearance in court has no legal implications. In the first place, the CJN has not been served personally. In the eyes of the law, there’s nothing against him. He must be served personally.

“Again, if he has objection to the jurisdiction of the court, he needs not appear. When you look at the law, all the noise and media hype being made are of no moment.

“As far as I’m concerned, from the little I’ve read on the pages of newspapers and what transpired today (yesterday), there is nothing against the CJN until he is served.

“You can’t shave a man’s head in his absence. You have to serve him personally and he has a right to raise objections to the charge, which he has done.

“It is not peculiar to the CJN or any other accused person. The Constitution and the Administration of Criminal Justice Act say that you have to serve the accused person personally.

“In criminal trials, you must serve the accused person personally. You can’t serve information indicting somebody by proxy.”

Akinseye-George said the charges, which he described as incompetent, cannot stand in law because they were not prepared in accordance with the due process of law.

“The due process of law is that the CJN or any other judge who is still serving must first be investigated and then findings made by the NJC before he can be exposed to either the CCT or regular courts.

“We should not allow political expediency to make us truncate democracy. The rule of law requires maturity. It requires even-handedness. The judiciary has done a lot to advance the anti-corruption fight. So, this whole issue is an unnecessary distraction,” Akinseye-George said.

But, Ogun State Judicial Service Commission member Abayomi Omoyinmi said the CJN should have appeared before the CCT

“Fundamentally, the service of court summons on any defendant is a condition precedent for appearance and or response to such summons of any court processes.

“However, I believed that the CJN should have appeared before the CCT, notwithstanding that evidence of personal service of the summons on the CJN was an issue before the court.

“The CJN having been represented by eminent senior lawyers in court, one would have argued that the CJN need not have refused to appear before the court, even if personal service of the summons was not effected on him, but he has notice of the hearing against him before the CCT,” Omoyinmi argued.

140 Aggrieved PDP Support Groups Deny APC, Return To Atiku
User Avatar Forum: News
Posted by: Edoman - 01-15-2019, 11:04 AM - No Replies

Quote:Abuja – After a brief foray in the All Progressives Congress (APC), 140 support groups, which had earlier withdrawn their support from the Presidential candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, have returned to the party.

About 145 PDP Support groups had earlier abandoned their support for Atiku for the APC on allegations of marginalisation, ingratitude and lack of support.

Addressing newsmen on Monday at a World Press Conference in Abuja, the Coalition of Atikuate Leaders Forum, announced their return to the party and their collective resolve to end their support for the APC and its Presidential Candidate, President Muhammadu Buhari.

The groups explained that reassurances from the Director General of Atiku Support Group, Math Yeduma, made them to return and work for the successful election of Atiku Abubakar.

The Group’s National Coordinator, Pastor Franklin Eze, who spoke on their behalf, further explained that they have resolved to put their grievances behind.

He said: “We have come to state categorically that of the alleged 145 support groups, not less than 140 groups, as you can see, are still with His Excellency Alhaji Atiku Abubakar except for ‘Atiku reloaded’ support group, led by El-Mikedo and a few others like him who have decided to reduce the nobility associated with politics and politicking into a bread and butter business.

“Therefore, let nobody use the names of our various groups to go about collecting money from APC as that amounts to impersonation, outright falsehood and political prostitution orchestrated on the altar of the spirit of Balaamism. That is the spirit of avarice and kleptomenia.”

The group national coordinator added that the ruling party and its government has no respect for democratic institutions and uses official institutions to its advantage.

Eze said: “We cannot associate our groups to a government that have absolute and outright disregard for the rules of law that allows for a just and fair society, a government that has annexed the Nigerian Police Force (NPF) and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as an extension of her party.

“The All Progressive Congress (AFC); as evidenced by the brazen show of the appointment of Hajiya Amina Zakari as the INEC National Commissioner in charge of the election collation panel and the refusal to retire the IGP Ibrahim ldris, who have served out his constitutional tenure in office. All this scheming we perceive is in attempt to perpetrate their rigging agenda.

“Consequent upon the foregoing, we make it clear to the world that the about 140 Coalition of Atikulate Leaders Forum formally known as Coalition of All Aggrieved Atiku Support Groups (AASG) are still with His Excellency Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, the Waziri of Adamawa and His Excellency Peter Obi.

“We are still with the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and we shall keep Atikulating until we get Nigeria working again. This is to say that we have decided to vote Atiku and Obi for the 2019 presidential elections, and there is no turning back to our collective resolution.”

Aisha Campaign Team Accuses Saraki, Atiku Of Inciting Nigerians
User Avatar Forum: News
Posted by: Edoman - 01-15-2019, 11:01 AM - No Replies

The 2019 Presidential Election Campaign Team of wife of the president, Hajiya Aisha Buhari, has accused PDP presidential candidate and former vice president, Atiku Abubakar, and Senate President Bukola Saraki of inciting Nigerians.

The director, Media and Strategic Communication Committee of the Women and Youth Presidential Campaign Team, Hon. Abdulmumini Jibrin, at the inaugural media conference of the committee, also unveiled the ‘Operation Lashe Akwatuna’, meaning ‘Operation Sweep the Units’, as a voter mobilisation and awareness project of the directorate.

He condemned what he described as the campaign of misinformation launched against President Buhari and candidate of the APC by prominent members of the opposition parties, especially PDP.

According to him, Saraki who doubled as the Director General of the PDP campaign, had in an “uninspiring interview” attempted to cast aspersion on the ‘president’s government’ forgetting he was indeed part of the government.

“The biggest threat to the stability of this country is the PDP presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar and the Director-General of Atiku Campaign, Bukola Saraki, who are taking Nigerians for granted by mooting the idea to incite the North not to support power transfer to the southern part of the country after President Muhammadu Buhari completes his second term in a clear attempt to shortchange the southern part of Nigeria,” Rep. Jibrin said.

“No wonder, the PDP presidential candidate has refused to commit to returning power to the southern part of the country after 2023. This is even after concerted pressure by many of their stakeholders. This is already heating up our polity with combined negative consequences on our economy, security and general development.

“So, if we are talking about the politicians who are threatening the foundation of the peace and security of our country, the cap fits Saraki and Atiku,” he said.

Rep. Jibrin commended Mrs. Aisha Buhari for the revolution she brought into the political arena by recognizing the role of women and youth in political campaigns and also factoring them into the presidential campaign.

He said ‘Operation Lashe Akwatuna’ would cover all segments of voters in a unit which comprised of supporters, undecided voters and opposition voters, and also carry its campaign to the doorsteps of these three segments in polling units across the country on the same day and at the same time.

He said the committee would run a competition calling for Nigerians from various works of life to submit art pieces in various formats, graphic designs, videos, drawings and paintings depicting an achievement of the President Buhari administration that had impacted their lives positively using the hashtag #APCWAYCONTEST.

APC Resorts To Violence In Kwara As “o To Ge” Loses Steam – Kwara Group
User Avatar Forum: News
Posted by: Edoman - 01-15-2019, 10:59 AM - No Replies

Quote:Following the recent violent attack on the Agbaji community in Ilorin, the Kwara state capital, a group, Kwara Progressive Front, KPF, has accused the All Progressives Congress, APC, of resorting to violence after its failed “O to ge” campaign.
Over 55 cars were destroyed in the attack leaving two people dead.
The group said the APC in Kwara had made it very clear that this election is between Dr. Bukola Saraki and their various candidates contesting various political offices.
“From their gubernatorial candidate, to the senate and House of Representatives candidadates, down to the each and every House of Assembly candidates, all of them seem to have a common opposition candidate in the person of Dr. Bukola Saraki. If you approach any candidate contesting under the APC for any political office in Kwara state and ask about his/her plans if he/she is elected and you’ll be so surprised that they have nothing to offer,” Kwara Progressive Front said in a statement made available to the press.
Speaking further, the group said the “O to ge” campaign is to specifically stoke hatred within the polity “which has proved to be counter-productive because the people do not know their candidates as much as they should.”

“For example, little or nothing is known about Abdulrahman Abdulrazak, the Kwara APC gubernatorial candidate compared to his counterpart in the PDP - Hon. Razak Atunwa. The PDP in Kwara state has taken the time to campaign and sell their various candidates. So while the APC is busy attacking Dr. Bukola Saraki and resorting to violence, hoping that this will win elections in Kwara, the PDP is busy talking to the people and marketing their candidates.

“As the election draws closer, one thing is clear - the “O TO GE” message has proved unsuccessful and Dr. Bukola Saraki and the Kwara PDP have not been riled by it. Polls taken by various individuals, and political groups have all pointed to the fact that Dr. Bukola Saraki’s base and the Kwara PDP supporters have remained intact. The gap is so huge - The PDP (then APC) polled over 70% of the valid votes cast in 2015, and all the other opposition parties put together polled less than 30%. With these figures, one would expect the opposition to engage more in talking to the people rather than stoking hatred within the polity and attacking the person of Dr. Bukola Saraki who one can safely say is greatly loved by over 70% of the population as we can see from the 2015 election results.

“No matter which side of the political divide you fall, one thing is evident in Kwara State - Dr. Bukola Saraki is greatly loved by the people. Of course, just like any other political figure, he has his enemies and those that do not like him but those are not as much as the people that love him and rally round him. That is why 30% of the electorate cannot shout “O TO GE” enough to silence the loud roar of “KWARA FIRST” and “SAI BUKKY” coming from over 70% of the electorate.
“As the elections draw closer, the APC in Kwara are gradually starting to realize that the “O TO GE” message in itself is not enough to win the hearts of the people, that the “O TO GE” message cannot win election.

The group further stated that the APC who claim to want to rescue the people of Kwara is in disarray.

“They also have the problem of sharp divisions within the party. Their gubernatorial candidate - Abdulrahman Abdulrazak emerged as a result of some serious permutations within the party. A lot of promises were made, some candidates stepped down because they were promised that their camp would produce the deputy governor.

“The APC in Kwara cannot handle the realities on ground and that is why they are desperate and have resorted to violence to cause panic and commotion within the state. It is common knowledge that violence is in the DNA of the APC but no one would ever think that the APC would bring their violent tendencies into Kwara state: The State of Harmony.

“The APC in Kwara state have turned our dear State of Harmony into a State of Anarchy because of their desperation to seize power by all means. By doing that, the APC has just won the election for PDP and Dr. Bukola Saraki.
Recall that barely 6 days ago there was pandemonium at the APC Lagos state rally where several people were shot and robbed of their possessions. Journalists, cameraman and innocent electorates were not spared as APC thugs stormed the venue with guns and other dangerous weapons.
A Similar event played out in Imo state during the APC rally as various groups clashed with dangerous weapons causing injuries to so many, and loss of properties.

Pastor Charged For Raping 14-year-old Daughter Over Six Years After Wife's Death

The pastor of a New York City baptist church has been charged with the sexual abuse and rape of his own young daughter over six years.

Son of the bishop at the Progressive Baptist Church of Brownsville in Brooklyn, Matthew Gibson was arrested on Thursday and accused of repeatedly sexually assaulting his now 14-year-old daughter.

The abuse is alleged to have been taking place on the church’s grounds since 2012, shortly after the victim’s mother died.

‘He should rot in hell,’ said the victim’s grandmother, Josephine Maples. ‘How can a father do this?’

Myia Maples, the victim’s sister-in-law, says the victim confided in her about the abuse last week, blurting it out in a moment of emotion.

Maples and her husband have had full custody of the victim and her twin brother for seven years, with Gibson only having bi-weekly weekend visitation rights.

The victim’s twin brother says he was present at the church when the assaults were taking place, but had no idea what was going on.

‘He would make me play on the drums, and when it was happening, I wouldn’t be nowhere around,’ he said in an interview with NBC New York.

‘I feel like, in the moment, I let my sister down.’

Gibson, 44, was arrested on January 10 and charged with criminal sexual abuse and forcible touching of a female victim, aged between nine and 14.

Gibson’s father, Bishop Ben T. Gibson, was meant to be supervising his son’s visits and clearly failed, the family say.

Media Mogul, Dele Momodu has reacted to the recent appointment of AIG Adamu Mohammed as the acting Inspector General of Police (IGP)

The presidency will on Tuesday announce the appointment of AIG Adamu Mohammed as the acting Inspector General of Police (IGP), to replace outgoing IGP, Ibrahim Idris, an impeccable source told Akelicious Monday night.

Also a presidency source had earlier confirmed to NAN that President Muhammadu Buhari had zeroed in on the senior officer.

His elevation means that all Deputy Inspectors-General will retire from service.

Mohammed had served as the Commissioner Of Police in Enugu State. He was one time director of peacekeeping operations of the Force.

He is currently the Assistant Inspector General of Police, Zone Five, in Benin, Edo State.

Mohammed is also a directing staff member at the National Institute of policy and Strategic Studies, Kuru, near Jos, Plateau State.

He was born on November 9, 1961 and enlisted in the police in 1986.

Reacting, Momodu expressed surprise at the development despite ‘moves’ by Idris to stop his retirement.

On his Twitter page, he wrote: “AIG Adamu Lafia from Nasarawa State has emerged as the new IGP.

“Wow, whatever has a beginning must have an end. So, after all the ‘gra gra’ of our troublesome Inspector General of Police, and the over zealousness to please his masters instead of his country, retirement eventually came. Goodbye Mr Ibrahim Idris.”

CBN Moves To Boost Financial Inclusion
User Avatar Forum: Market Place
Posted by: Edoman - 01-15-2019, 10:10 AM - No Replies

National Financial inclusion stakeholders in Nigeria, led by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) will this Thursday and Friday gather for the launch of key policy documents aimed at facilitating the attainment of the financial inclusion target of 80 per cent by 2020.

The event would hold in Abuja.

Policy documents to be unveiled at the conference expected to attract over 400 delegates are the Revised National Financial Inclusion Strategy (NFIS 2.0); the Financial Literacy Framework; the Consumer Protection Framework and the Consumer Education framework.

According to details obtained from the CBN, the conference also aims to ensure that new comers into the financial inclusion bracket are adequately protected and educated in line with the provisions of the policy documents.

Other objectives of the two-day conference to be declared open by the CBN Governor, Mr. Godwin Emefiele, are to update participants on the growing sophistication of the financial market, the competitive environment in which financial services providers operate, and the benefit and value of providing access to financial services among others.

While hoping to enhance consumer confidence and trust in the financial services to facilitate progress towards achieving 80 per cent financial inclusion target by 2020, the CBN and other stakeholders also seek to obtain customer feedback on how best to implement the financial inclusion policies.

Latest figures released by Enhancing Financial Innovation and Access (EFInA) indicate that 36.6 million Nigerian adults, representing about 36.8 per cent of the Nigerian adult population, do not have access to formal financial Services.

To achieve its financial inclusion target, Nigeria, through the National Financial Inclusion stakeholders, seeks to cut the exclusion rate down to 20 per cent by the year 2020, hence various public and private organisations under the auspices of National Financial inclusion stakeholders have been working assiduously since the launch of the first National Financial Inclusion Strategy in 2012 to achieve the objective of 80 per cent inclusion by 2020.

Morning Devotional For Tuesday 15th January

*Rhapsody Of Realities Daily Devotional*

*ANCHORS OF FAITH*

_Tuesday, January 15th

_*Therefore let no man glory in men. For ALL
THINGS ARE YOURS (1 Corinthians 3:21).*_

An anchor serves as a means of stability and support. Therefore, an “anchor of faith” is that which you connect your faith to when releasing your faith. It provides support when you’re acting on the Word about something you desire from God, for yourself or for someone else.

The faith-walk or the faith-life is like walking on water. For example, when you say, “I desire a house or a landed property,” and you sow a seed to that effect, that seed that you’ve sown for the property is actually connected to your faith; it’s an anchor for your faith.

It’s like teaching a child to walk, and you give the child a walker to use. The child rests on that walker and pushes it around, leaning on it to walk. That’s what sowing a seed to get something does for you. But don’t remain there.

If all you know and practise is to sow a seed when you need something from God, then something is wrong. If you have to sow a seed for everything that you need, why then did Jesus come? What then is the purpose of our inheritance in Him?
There’s absolutely nothing in this world that’s not covered by the provisions of Christ. That’s why the Spirit, through the Apostle Paul, wrote to the Church, saying, _*“…all things are yours”*_ (1 Corinthians 3:21). There’s nothing in this world that you need to reproduce in any other way for it to become yours; all things are yours already.

2 Peter 1:3 declares, _*“According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue.”*_ Therefore, give, and sow seeds as fruits of your righteousness (2 Corinthians 9:10), recognising that you’ve been brought into the place of superabundance; that’s the higher level. It means walking in your consciousness of the divine nature.

*CONFESSION*

*My faith is strong and prevailing; I’m victorious today and always, living the good life which God prearranged for me before the foundation of the world. Hallelujah!*

*FURTHER STUDY:* *||* *Matthew 17:20* And Jesus said unto them, Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you.

*||* *2 Corinthians 9:8-10* And God [is] able to make all grace abound toward you; that ye, always having all sufficiency in all [things], may abound to every good work: 9 (As it is written, He hath dispersed abroad; he hath given to the poor: his righteousness remaineth for ever. 10 Now he that ministereth seed to the sower both minister bread for [your] food, and multiply your seed sown, and increase the fruits of your righteousnessWink *||*

Giant crocodile eats scientist alive after dragging her into enclosure while she was feeding it

A scientist was eaten alive by a 17ft long crocodile while she fed it in a facility named the CV Yosiki Laboratory.

Deasy Tuwo, 44, was giving the crocodile, named Merry, lumps of meat last Friday morning in North Sulawesi, Indonesia when the sad incident happened. In the course of feeding the giant reptile, it stood on its hind legs and leaped an 8ft high concrete wall to pull the researcher into the shallow water where it ate her alive.

Staff discovered what had happened around 8.45am when they noticed a "strange shape" in the water. They then saw the crocodile laying on the ground with Deasy's savaged body in its jaws. The reptile had ripped off Deasy's left arm and mutilated her upper torso.

Rescue workers battled to retrieve Deasy's body from the crocodile but everytime they tried to approach it to retrieve the body, the beast thrashed violently.

Merry was pictured strapped to a flat-bed truck to be taken for medical tests to confirm that he had eaten the body parts.

Deasy was the head of the lab and has been described as a quiet person who loved animals.

Deasy's former colleague Merry Supit said:

Quote:She was the head of the lab. A quiet person. We're confused about how this has happened.
The crocodile eats chicken, tuna and meat. Everything must be fresh, he doesn't want to eat if it's frozen or has died a few days.

Staff said that Merry had been an aggressive animal that had previously attacked and killed another crocodile that had been in its pool.

The crocodile will be evacuated to a wildlife rescue center in Bitung district where tests will be carried out on its stomach.

EFCC arrests bishop over alleged Fraud , operating Ponzi scheme in Edo (photo)

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, (EFCC), Benin Zonal Office has arrested a Bishop and suspected fraudster, Giniko Obi, for allegedly defrauding thousands of people of various sums of money running into millions of naira, in the guise of helping them “fight poverty”.
A statement released by the acting spokesperson of the antigraft agency, Tony Orilade, says Obi who is the founder of Beloved Gideon Foundation, based in Agbor, Delta State, with outreaches in Bayelsa, Onitsha, Lagos, Port Harcourt, Abuja and Benin City, denied any involvement in fraud claiming that he was only “doing the will of God by trying to help the people fight poverty”.
According to Obi, it was his desire and God’s will to see people prosper that led him into operating what appears to be a Ponzi Scheme. Obi who claim to be a consecrated Bishop, possessing a diploma in theology explains thus:

Quote:“We write books such as ‘24 Nuggets for Successful Living’, ‘36 Nuggets for Successful Living’, ‘48 Nuggets for Successful Living’. We organise seminars and conferences on how to be successful. We tell the people to subscribe to these publications. If you subscribe with N10, 800, we give you N15, 000. If you subscribe with N18, 000, we give you N23, 000. I had about 30,000 subscribers and I was paying them”.
According to him, when he left Agbor for Lagos, his desire was to expand his subscription base but his subscribers were impatient.
Quote:“If they allowed me to hold the conference in Lagos, I would have paid them,” he claimed. However, some of his victims who have continued to throng the EFCC office, since his arrest, described his as a “fraud”.
One of them, Janet Amaka Okafor, said the Bishop sold a dummy to them by claiming that he was from the famous Gideons International, based in the United States.
According to her
Quote:“He organised seminars in Agbor market that he was from Gideons International and that their mission was to help eradicate poverty in Nigeria. “He told us that unlike in the past when Gideons International distributed Bibles and Christian literature, their mission now was to eradicate poverty”.
On how she became a victim of the scheme, Okafor, 35, who claims she has never participated in any ponzi scheme in the past said she fell for his tricks because the “Bishop” swore with the bible.

Bishop Oyedepo To Establish 5,000 Churches Across The World In 2019

Bishop David Oyedepo led Winners’ Chapel to build 5,000 Churches in 2019

By Leke Beecroft

Bishop Oyedepo has announced the establishment of a minimum of 5,000 new churches worldwide in 2019. According to the Bishop, God spoke to him on 2nd May 2015 about a new era of Church growth for the Church of Christ at large and Winners’ Chapel in particular. He stated this morning that Church growth was not an ambition but an act of divine visitation and fulfillment of prophecy.

The Church arm of the ministry started on December 11, 1983 in Kaduna at No. E.E. 5 Ramat Close, Ungwan Rimi while on May 24, 1987, Church planting began with the first five new churches planted in North Eastern Nigerian towns and cities namely, Maiduguri, Biu, Mubi, Azare and Bauchi. The Lagos Church which first bore the name ‘Winners’ Chapel’ was soon planted on September 24, 1989 at No. 1A, New Era Road, Iyana Ipaja, Lagos and moved to an abandoned Motel facility on 38, Raji Oba Street, Alimosho, Iyana Ipaja, where the renowned Winners Complex was built.

The Church eventually reached out to Africa on January 15, 1995 through the Phase 1 of the African Gospel Invasion Programme (AGIP), planting Churches in 6 African nations namely, Kenya, Ethiopia, Ghana, Sierra Leone, Liberia and Congo Kinshasa. Today, the Church is in about 48 African nations.

Subsequently, MISSION TO THE WORLD (MTW) a project to plant churches outside Africa started in 2001, with the first branch in London, England. The Living Faith Church continued to expand with one major church in every city where she was present and by December 2009 she had a network of about 700 branches worldwide. That same month, she began aggressive planting of branches all over Nigeria and Africa such that by November 2010, her branches had increased to 2,500 and by November 2011 had planted another 2,000 all over the world.

On September 7, 2012 the Church Constitution known as ‘The MANDATE’, was published. This operational manual of the church clearly spelling out doctrines and history of the church as well as administration and succession spelt out that there would be a church located every 2km distance all over the world. Later in December that year, the
Church listed over 5,000 branches in Nigeria alone and over 600 in foreign countries, totaling about 6,000.

In May 2013, about 60 churches were planted in hinterland Lagos especially for those who might have to cross over water to reach Faith Tabernacle on Sundays. By May 2015, the Church commenced ‘Wonder Double’ Outreach phase based on prophecy. Bishop Oyedepo soon ordered for overflow tents to be erected and by January 2016, 52,000 seats were provided under tents for people outside Faith Tabernacle Auditorium making a total of 102,000 capacity. Presently the plan for a 100,000 capacity Faith Theatre has been jettisoned for a minimum 120,000 capacity auditorium which could be further increased.

The Church has continued to spread and by early 2018, was well over 6,000 Churches, apart from the Lagos structure which is the largest structure of the ministry. In Delta State alone, over 500 Churches have been registered.

The announcement of today thus signifies another intensive church planting drive by the Church. Another sister Church, the Redeemed Christian Church of God has planted over 20,000 Churches in Nigeria alone and both churches along with Deeper Life Bible Church have the largest network of Churches both in Nigeria and all over Africa. This is all in their bid to ensure that the Gospel of Christ reaches all the ends of the earth before Jesus comes according to scriptures.

Court Stops FG From Trying Walter Onnoghen, CJN
User Avatar Forum: General Discussion

The Federal High Court in Abuja has stopped the Federal Government’s plan to arraign the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Walter Onnoghen, before the Code of Conduct Tribunal.

The Federal Government through the Code of Conduct Bureau filed six counts of non-declaration of assets against the CJN on Friday.

He was due for arraignment before the CCT on Monday but he was absent from court.

But ruling on two separate ex parte applications on Monday, Justice N.E Maha, ordered parties to maintain status quo till January 17.

He ruled in the two different suits that the defendants should be served with all the papers filed and they should appear in court at the next hearing.

One of the two suits marked FHC/ABJ/CS/27/2019 was filed by incorporated ‎trustees of the Centre for Justice and Peace Initiative.

Those joined as defendants in the suit, the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Mr. Abubakar Malami, the Chairman of CCT, Danladi Umar; the National Judicial Council, the Inspector-General of Police, ‎Mr. Ibrahim Idris, and the Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki.

‎The other suit marked FHC/ABJ/CS/28/2019 was filed by the incorporated ‎trustees of the International Association of Students Economists and Management.

The suit has as the defendants, Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Malami; the CCT, the CCB, the Chairman of CCT, Umar; and the Inspector-General of Police, ‎Idris.

While the ex parte application in the suit FHC/ABJ/CS/27/2019 was moved by Mr. R.A Lawal-Rabana (SAN), before Justice Maha on Monday, the ex parte application filed in the suit marked FHC/ABJ/CS/28/2019 ‎was moved by Mr. Jeph Njikonye.

The applications were being filed before the Federal High Court in Abuja while the CCT proceedings where Onnoghen was being expected to be arraigned was ongoing.

‎Justice Onnoghen was however absent at the CCT proceedings forcing the tribunal to adjourn till January 22.

But Justice Maha ruled at the Federal High Court on Monday that no steps should be taken in respect of the trial until January 17 when all parties to the two suits should return to court for the hearing of the plaintiffs’ motion on notice.

‎The hearing took place shortly after the CCT proceedings ended on Monday.

Frank Timi Urges Buhari to resign ‘if not aware’ of plot to arraign CJN Onnoghen
User Avatar Forum: General Discussion

Press Statement

Frank Urges Buhari to resign ‘if not aware’ of plot to arraign CJN Onnoghen

Former Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Comrade Timi Frank, has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to immediately resign his position for claiming ignorance about the wicked plot to forcefully remove the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Walter Onnoghen through a kangaroo false asset declaration trial.

Frank in a statement in Abuja, said that since Buhari has for long appeared unaware of his sacred duties and position as President, he should relinquish his seat so that Nigerians can look for a president that “will be aware and conscious about critical national issues that often emanate from the presidency.

He noted that it was preposterous and unimaginable for an anonymous aide of the President to have sponsored a report in an online media to the effect that the President is not “aware” of the planned trial of the CJN at the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT).

He also flayed the Special Adviser to President Buhari on Political Matters, Senator Babafemi Ojudu, for denying reports that Buhari has demanded the resignation of Onnoghen whereas the germane issue was the illegal plot  to intimidate and humiliate the head of a critical arm of government, ahead of the upcoming elections.

He said: “Why should Nigerians continue to sustain and maintain a President who assumed office over three years ago but never is aware of actions emanating from his official table?

“I strongly believe that Nigerians have got the chance to correct this apparent amnesia in the  presidency by voting for a more capable and fully aware presidential candidate in February.

“We cannot continue to operate under this lifeless and unaware administration,” he stated.

He further stated that Buhari has continued to make Nigeria a laughing by his persistent claim of lack of awareness even when his very orders were being fragrantly disobeyed as President and Commander-In-Chief of the Armed Forces by Service Chiefs, heads of the Department of State Services and the Inspector General of Police who are under his control.

He said: “Nigerians have not forgotten how the orders of Buhari that the military high command should relocate to Maiduguri on assumption of office were never obeyed.

“When the DSS invaded the residence of serving Justices and judges under the cover of night and broke down their doors, the Presidency claimed Buhari was not aware of the illegal and unthinkable action that was unbecoming of a security agency in a democracy.

“When the National Assembly was invaded by the DSS in an attempt to forcefully remove the presiding officers of the Senate, the presidency claimed Buhari never gave the orders.

“When the President ordered the IGP to relocate to Benue State in efforts to stem the rising tide of bloodletting in that state by suspected herdsmen, the IGP refused and the President denied knowledge of the refusal.

“All these show that the President lacks integrity. A President that cannot take responsibility for simple government actions cannot be said to possess any iota of integrity.

“A self-acclaimed anti-corruption czar who is not aware that his former SGF, Babacheer Lawal, accused of monumental corruption, is today not facing trial in any court cannot be said to be a man of integrity.

“He cannot also claim not to be aware that Lawal has been appointed as a member of his re-election campaign committee.

“He cannot claim not to be aware that two of his serving appointees have been accused of certificate forgery and not performing the one year mandatory youth service programme respectively.”

He added that persistent claims that the President is not aware of major actions of the present administration give credence to the position of the Wife of the President, Aisha, that two or three persons have since hijacked the presidency. “Yet the President is not aware?”

Signed

Comrade Timi Frank

Intimidation Of The Judiciary Capable Of Breeding Anarchy – Obi
User Avatar Forum: News
Posted by: Edoman - 01-14-2019, 01:03 PM - No Replies

Quote:The Vice-Presidential candidate of the PDP, Mr. Peter Obi has decried what he tagged “Intimidation of the Judiciary”, and asking “Where is Due Process?”. Recalling that he was a major beneficiary of the rule of law/due process, he asserted that when that critical essence of democracy is under siege or attacked, the State could be set on the path of perdition.

Peter Obi made the observation yesterday at Shagamu, Ogun State where he represented Alhaji Atiku Abubakar at the Strategy Meeting of the PDP and in reaction to the orchestrated arraignment of the Chief Justice of Nigeria [CJN] on allegations bordering on assets declaration.

Elaborating on his stance, Obi noted that law-abiding citizens of Nigeria, including members of the judiciary, affirm that nobody is above the law, but insist that the process of legal restitution for alleged infractions of the laws of the land must be above board. “In the present case”, Obi said, “confirmed indications reveal that due process was not followed. For instance, what should be done first in such cases is to write formally to the National Judiciary Council [NJC], and that was not done.”

On the overall rating of the Nigerian Judiciary, Obi said: “In my view the Nigerian judiciary remains the best of the three arms of government under the present dispensation. Indeed, it has done tremendously well, and I am a celebrated beneficiary of our judicial system. It was through the Courts that I secured my electoral mandate and also served my full term. It was also due process that reversed my illegal impeachment. Interestingly, a number of other public office holders, including the incumbent chairman of the APC benefited from that courageous precedent set by the Judiciary.

Obi said it was sad that the judiciary had been subjected to unwarranted intimidation by the present administration; with such unwholesome acts as unfounded hounding of members of the Higher Bench, raids on their homes, arrest and arraignment, to the present macabre dance in the name of allegations against and arraignment of the CJN.

More appalling, Obi noted, has been the persistent “lack of decorum” in the attitudes and actions of the present government: “One begins to wonder whether the handlers of the present regime are unmindful of the extant law that requires the NJC to first investigate judicial officers and, if found culpable, recommend disciplinary measures to the legislature before any arraignment if necessary.

“It is also revealing that this scenario is not novel in today's Nigeria. It is the same CJN that was also subjected to all manner of traumatic experience before his emergence as head of the Nigerian Judiciary. From the way and manner we are going, the judicial arm that helps to defend, guide, guard and direct democracy and its institutions is being overawed, intimidated and undermined preparatory to the General Elections. Wherein lies our hope in Nigeria?”

On the way forward, Obi called on Nigerians leaders to shun the temptation of making moves or taken actions that could engender and breed anarchy in the country.

Presidential Debate: Don’t Send Tinubu, You Must Go – Ohanaeze Tells Buhari
User Avatar Forum: News
Posted by: Edoman - 01-14-2019, 12:59 PM - No Replies

Ohanaeze Ndigbo has charged President Buhari to attend the upcoming presidential debate.

He stated this while reacting to the decision of Buhari to handover his reelection campaign to a national leader of the APC, Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Buhari had disclosed his decision while inaugurating the APC Presidential Council, at the International Conference Centre, ICC, in Abuja, last week Monday.

Also, the National Publicity Secretary of APC, Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu, had disclosed that Buhari may not attend the debate if he feels there are other viable options with which he can engage Nigerians.

However, Ibegbu stressed that Buhari must appear in person and not Tinubu because he, the president, needs to tell Nigerians what he has done since assuming office.

According to Ibegbu: “We can’t preempt anything because we are not part of Buhari’s programme but he has a moral duty to talk to his people on why he wants to rule for another four years.

“He has to come and talk to Nigerians on what he has done in the past four years and what he intends to do in the next four years, he can’t do it by proxy.

“If he doesn’t talk to Nigerians then he has no moral right to lead us. Tinubu or no Tinubu he must tell Nigerians in person what he has done in the last three and half years and it must not be by proxy.”

Falana Speaks On Walter Onnoghen Prosecution, Tells FG To Withdraw Case
User Avatar Forum: General Discussion

Quote:Human rights lawyer, Femi Falana, SAN, has asked the Federal Government to urgently withdraw the charges against the Chief Justice of Nigeria, CJN, Justice Walter Onnoghen as such move will amount to prosecutorial misadventure.

The Federal Government had earlier asked Onnoghen to vacate his office over failure to declare his assets as required by the law and moved to arraign him at the Code of Conduct Tribunal, CCT.

But Falana, in a statement on Saturday faulted FG”s move to press charges against the CJN.

According to him, “The charge against the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Walter Onnoghen ought not to have been instituted at the Code of Conduct of Tribunal in view of the case of Nganjiwa v FRN (2017) LPELR 43391 wherein the Court of Appeal held that a judicial officer who has not been investigated by the National Judicial Council and sanctioned for misconduct cannot be arraigned in any criminal court in Nigeria.

“As all authorities are bound by the Court of Appeal verdict, the case should be withdrawn by the Attorney-General of the Federation without any delay because it is likely to be a prosecutorial misadventure,” he said.

Onnoghen: Prepare To Exist Without Niger Delta Oil, Militants Tell Nigerians
User Avatar Forum: News
Posted by: Edoman - 01-14-2019, 10:37 AM - No Replies

Quote:Niger Delta Militants has told Nigerians to prepare to exist without oil if President Muhammadu Buhari is re-elected for a second term in office.

A statement which POLITICS TIMES considered a threat to the nation’s life wire is coming from a coalition of various militant camps in the South South region.

The threat also came amidst the planned arraignment of Walter Onnoghen, the current Chief Justice of Nigeria being asked to step aside for some alleged corrupt practises traced to him.

Mr Onnoghen is scheduled for arraignment before the Code of Conduct Tribunal on Monday, January 14, for allegedly omitting to declare his assets.

He is also accused of illegally operating five domiciliary accounts in various foreign currencies with Standard Chartered Bank since 2011.

Threatening Nigeria, the militants said the CJN’s removal is being plotted because he is from the geo-political zone.

The coalition declared in a statement issued in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, and signed by over 15 leaders of various militant groups, vowing that any attempt to re-elect Buhari, would split the country.

Among the signatories were: General John Duke (Niger Delta Watchdogs and convener, Coalition of Niger Delta Agitators), General Simply Benjamin (Bakassi Strike Force), General Osarolor Nedam (Niger Delta Warriors) and Major-Gen. Henry Okon Etete (Niger Delta Peoples Fighters).

“The CJN is suffering just because he is from the minority area of the South-South, the Niger Delta region. This is definitely a petition plotted by the Presidency to forcefully remove the incumbent CJN from office and replace him with a northerner,” it said.

“In the first instance, President Muhammadu Buhari was not disposed to Justice Omnoghen’s appointment to this position, which is why he refused to confirm the appointment after so many months of serving in acting capacity.

“It was during the period of his sickness, while in Britain, that the acting President, Prof. Osinbajo, confirmed the appointment.

“We wish to also recall that in August last year, Mr. Matthew Seiyefa of Bayelsa State, who was the most senior and most qualified officer at the time, was appointed to the position of acting Director-General of the Department of State Security by Prof. Osinbajo, only to be replaced with a retired and junior officer to Mr. Seiyefa, Mr. Yusuf Magji Bichi, by President Buhari, as soon as he resumed duties. We hereby vehemently resist any attempt to remove CJN, Walter Omnoghen from office.

“These go to confirm that there is a high level of hatred, injustice, discrimination and marginalization of the Niger Delta region by the APC-led government over the past three years.

“Before the 2015 elections, we can recall several events that took place in the political arena which can now be confirmed were done to discredit the government of President Goodluck Jonathan.

“During the campaign for re-election in 2015, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan a South-South indigene was attacked in Bauchi State. We also witnessed how northerners and Yorubas embarrassed him, even those he trusted betrayed him and did everything possible to remove him because he is from a minority tribe in Niger Delta.

“This goes to confirm without any iota of doubt that the protests against the Jonathan administration were embarked upon basically because he is from the Niger Delta region.

“Similarly, protests against the Chibok girls’ abduction, and complaints about widespread corruption, high prices of commodity items, and others, were the order of the day. They declared that they needed “change”; thus, they ganged up, humiliated and betrayed Jonathan out of office and brought President Buhari to power.

“But, today, the much desired changed has metamorphosed into “chains” and those so-called activists and civil rights protagonists are keeping mum even in the face of human rights abuses, and deployment of draconian laws reminiscent of the military era.

“We also call on all the northerners and Yorubas, who own oil wells in the Niger Delta to prepare to vacate immediately; we also want to warn our Niger Delta brothers, who are working for Buhari to watch their back and know that we are watching them and their family members. We warn them to stop campaigning for Buhari in the Niger Delta. Be warned.

“Therefore, we want to inform Nigerians and the international community that any attempt by President Buhari to continue in office beyond May 2019, will be resisted by all means necessary.

“If they succeed in rigging election and bring back Buhari, then, Nigeria should prepare to exist without the Niger Delta oil. Niger Delta will not be part of Nigeria anymore.

“The northerners should also prepare to leave the Niger Delta if President Buhari continues beyond May 2019; we are prepared to strike once and for all and declare our Sovereign Niger Delta Republic.

“What, however, surprises us is the fact that the same people and groups that protested against the petroleum subsidy removal and increases in prices of the petroleum products are the ones who gave President Buhari the nod to commence the subsidy removal without any record of protests,” the agitators stated.

Everybody Is Hungry, Including Me - Amaechi

The Director General of the Buhari Campaign Organisation, Rotimi Amaechi, has told Nigerians complaining about hunger in the land that he himself is hungry.

He said the opposition Peoples Democratic Party caused the hunger in the land by stealing money from the nation’s purse while in power.

Amaechi said this at the APC presidential campaign rally which was held in Bauchi on Saturday.

He urged Nigerians to demand that the PDP return the nation’s stolen money.

The former Rivers State governor also claimed that the opposition was broke and hungry.

He said that was why the party wanted to return to power by all means.

Amaechi said, “I was speaking to my friend from the other divide and he said you are hungry, I said ‘yes, if they did not steal the money they stole, you would have had enough food.’

“The money they stole is what is making me hungry. Tell them, to bring the money.

“The PDP stole $2bn to prosecute 2015 elections but we still defeated them. They are broke, they are hungry and they want to come back to steal.

“The PDP members know that they are broke and because of that, they are looking for cheap source of funds.

“When they say there is no food, they want to steal money and they cannot do that because the President has said that public money is not for any individual.”

The minister of transportation wondered what the PDP did with the money it got for 16 years when oil was $114 per barrel.

He claimed that when the PDP was in power, he could not sleep with his two eyes closed even in the Rivers State Government House allegedly because of security challenges.

He said the situation had changed under Buhari.

The National Chairman of the APC, Adams Oshiomhole, said President Muhammadu Buhari knew how to catch thieves “and that is why the thieves have all gone to the PDP but even if they go to the PDP, they must be arrested.”

Groups petition The Netherlands over case against OPL 245 acquisition
Monday, January 14, 2019  NEW

                          [Image: Shell-Petroleum-Development-Company.jpg]
Four non-governmental organisations have petitioned The Netherlands government over their case against Royal Dutch Shell Plc (RDS) acquisition of the OPL 245 oil and gas field in Nigeria.

The groups, Human and Environmental Development Agenda (HEDA), Global Witness, Re:Common, and The Corner House, noted that RDS “is currently on trial in Milan in relation to the OPL 245 deal and the prosecution is the outcome of an investigation by the Milan Prosecutor’s Office, which was initiated as a result of a complaint submitted by three of our organisations.”

They expressed worry over an approach adopted in a recent out-of-court settlement of a major Dutch money laundering case involving ING Bank N.V.0 and said it should not be used in their own case.

“In September 2017, we submitted a complaint to the Prosecutor’s Office in The Netherlands requesting a criminal investigation of RDS, Shell Petroleum N.V. (“Shell Petroleum”) and Shell executives for offences under Dutch law relating to the deal.

“As plaintiffs, we consider ourselves to be stakeholders in the case. We are aware of the recent out-of-court settlement of a major Dutch money laundering case involving ING Bank N.V.

“For some reasons, we are concerned that a similar approach may be taken with RDS and Shell Petroleum. We hold that this would not be in the public interest unless stringent conditions are attached.”

The groups, which said they were not opposed to out-of-court settlements in cases where the defendant is ineligible for a custodial sentence, however, argued that “any settlement that does not produce a remedy proportionate to the alleged crime could not be seen as just.”

Their petition to The Netherlands Minister van Justitie, Mr. Ferdinand Grapperhaus, on Janusry 9, 2019, reads in part: “In this case, RDS and Eni are accused of paying over a billion dollars into a vast bribery scheme to pay off Nigerian officials in exchange for extremely favourable access to one of Nigeria’s most promising oil blocks.

“The cost to Nigerians of this ‘smash-and-grab raid’ on the Nigerian government (to use the phrase of the UK Crown Prosecution Service) is vast. Indeed, for some reasons, we would contend that there are strong grounds for rejecting a settlement with Shell.

“Firstly, as far as we are aware, neither RDS nor Shell Petroleum appears to have done anything to ‘earn’ an out-of-court settlement. In the recent settlement with ING Bank N.V., ING co-operated with the Prosecutor’s Office. By contrast, neither RDS nor Shell Petroleum has ‘self-reported’ any crimes that they view as related to the OPL 245 deal.

“Similarly, there are no public reports of their having co-operated with the criminal investigation into OPL 245. On the contrary, they have vigorously denied any criminality. As a consequence, the Prosecutor’s Office has had to undertake a wide-ranging investigation, presumably at considerable cost to the Dutch taxpayer.

“Should the companies now belatedly acknowledge criminality – a necessary part of any settlement – it would, in our view, be perverse to reward them by agreeing to terms that would allow them to avoid a criminal conviction by the courts.

“Secondly, a settlement with Shell would establish an undesirable precedent by signalling that the Dutch justice system is prepared to tolerate corporate recidivism. At the time that the OPL 245 deal was negotiated and bribes were allegedly paid, RDS was a party to a Deferred Prosecution Agreement with the U.S. Department of Justice following an earlier Nigerian bribery scandal.”

The groups also said any settlement without a full and clear statement of facts and admission of guilt would be contrary to the interests of open justice.

“An admission of criminality by RDS and Shell Petroleum in this case would be an admission to participation in one of the most egregious bribery schemes in history, a scheme that defrauded Nigeria of billions of dollars. The beneficiaries were two of the richest companies in the world. The victims were some of the poorest people on Earth: Nigerians.”

The petition was signed by Nicholas Hildyard (The Corner House), Luca Manes (Re:Common), Olanrewaju Suraju (HEDA) and Simon Taylor (Global Witness).

Analysts See Spike In December Inflation Rate
Monday, January 14, 2019  NEW

As the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) releases its December 2018 inflation figures this week, leading research firms in the country, FSDH Research and Financial Derivatives Company (FDC), said in their forecasts at the weekend that the nation’s inflation rate for December 2018 would increase.

FSDH Research expects the December 2018 inflation rate (year-on-year) to rise to 11.69 percent from 11.28 percent recorded in November, while FDC in its bulletin predicts that headline inflation will increase to 11.37 percent in December.

FSDH forecast represents a monthly increase of 0.41 percent between the two months and the highest monthly increase since November 2016.

The expected increase in the inflation rate will reflect higher price increases within the Food and Non-Alcoholic Beverages division and other non-food items due to end-of-year and festivity purchases.

The NBS is due to release the inflation rate for the month of December on Thursday, January 17, 2019, ahead of the Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) meeting scheduled for January 21 and 22, 2019.

The Food Price Index (FPI) report that the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) published for the month of December 2018 remained relatively the same as November 2018.

However, the World Bank has hinted about a possible increase in food prices in 2019 because of severe weather conditions. This may accelerate the inflation rate in 2019 in Nigeria.

The FAO notes that the decline in the prices of dairy and sugar in December were largely offset by the increases in cereal, meat and oils.

FSDH Research’s analysis indicates that the value of the naira depreciated at the Nigerian Autonomous Foreign Exchange (NAFEX) in December 2018, while it appreciated at the parallel market.

The value of the naira depreciated marginally by 0.01% at the NAFEX market to close at US$/N364.18 from US$/N364.16 in November, while it gained 0.14 percent in the parallel market to close at US$/N365.00 from US$/N365.50 in November 2018.

The value of the naira appreciated at the parallel market as a result of newly introduced special ‘Thursday sale’ to Bureau de Change (BDCs) operators.

The depreciation recorded at NAFEX between the two months under review increased the impact of foreign exchange on the prices of imported consumer goods in the domestic market.

Analysts at FDC believe December is a period in which higher festive related spending pushes up aggregate demand in the economy as anecdotal and empirical evidence in December 2018 has validated.

Compounding the demand pull effect of festive spending was the surge in FAAC by 3.12 percent to N812.76 billion. This means that state governments and federal agencies had more liquidity during the period.

Also worth mentioning is that the slope of the inflation curve is getting steeper, suggesting that the 2019 budget inflation benchmark of 9.98% may be unattainable. The average inflation rate in 2018 was 12.14 percent down from 16.54 percent the 2017

CBN To Retire N162b Short-dated Bills Over Costs
User Avatar Forum: Market Place
Posted by: Edoman - 01-14-2019, 09:54 AM - No Replies

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), in the next three months, is expected to remove not less than N162.49 billion from the country’s domestic debt profile, put at N12.29 trillion as at September 30, 2018.

The move, coming amid revenue shortages and plans to raise more than N800 billion in the same domestic market for 2019 budget implementation, may have been targeted at short-dated bills only.

The Federal Government’s debt reduction strategy since 2017 has been focused on achieving a sustainable balance between the assessed costly domestic debts and relatively cheap external debts, targeting a ratio of 60:40.

Part of the $3billion Eurobond floated between November 2017 and early part of 2018, was used to redeem local debts, adjudged to be costlier than dollar-denominated loans.

Going by the Treasury Bill Issue programme for the first quarter of 2019, being managed by the CBN, rather than borrowing, it would be redeeming a fraction of the debts instruments.

Specifically, in the next three months, 91-day, 182-day, and 364-day treasury bills worth N985.92 billion would be maturing, but CBN would only roll over N823.43 billion, redeeming N162.49 billion.

An analysis of the treasury bills programme shows that five activities would be conducted in each category until February 28, with 91-day bill rolling over N51.46 billion out of outstanding N59.02 billion.

In the 182-day segment, out of outstanding bill of N248.84 billion, about N164.92 billion would be rolled over, while N83.93 billion would be redeemed.

Similarly, the 364-day treasury bill, in the period under review, would shed weight by N71.01 billion, as N607.05 billion would be rolled over, out of outstanding N678.06 billion.

The Head of Research at FSDH Merchant Bank Limited, Ayodele Akinwunmi, in a note to The Guardian at the weekend, however, noted that the government borrowing would still increase due to macroeconomic issues, thereby accelerating interest rate increase.

According to him, the cancellation of treasury bills’ primary auction last December might have reduced the investors’ foreign exchange inflow.

The uncertainty around the country’s major earner- crude oil, predisposes the economy to more borrowing and if the situation becomes worse, the borrowings at the domestic market will be more costly, as interest rate would be raised to lure more foreign investments.

He said capital inflows through the Investors and Exporters’ (I&E) window in December 2018, had fallen to $2.67 billion, from $2.91 billion in November, “coupled with the careful investment approach in Nigeria because of election by investors.”

For the Managing Director of Afrinvest Securities Limited, Ayodeji Ebo, this week, the apex bank is scheduled to repay N429.6 billion maturing treasury bills with the same sum rolled over.

“We expect rates at the auction to remain at attractive levels in line with recent trend while we anticipate a near muted activity in the secondary market.

“Also, in line with its tight system liquidity posture, we expect conduct of Open Market Operation auctions by the CBN this week to offset maturities worth N560.9 billion.”

YYF Backs Atiku, Warns Soyinka Against Attacking Obasanjo
User Avatar Forum: General Discussion
Posted by: Edoman - 01-14-2019, 09:53 AM - No Replies

A pan Yoruba Group, Yoruba Youth Forum, has said that the candidate of Peoples Democratic Party in the forthcoming presidential election, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, is the best option for Nigeria now.

The YYF President, Olusegun Bolarinwa, disclosed this in a statement released by the group after addressing some journalists in Lagos on Sunday.

Bolarinwa said the All Progressives Congress-led administration had made a mess of every sector, particularly the economic sector.”

“During the electioneering period President Buhari and his party, the APC, made promises which made us to believe them, but none of the promises was fulfilled. Nigeria is fairly bad under the present administration,” he said.

Bolarinwa added, “After a series of consultations with Yoruba leaders and kings in the South-West, we have decided to support Alhaji Atiku Abubakar for a better Nigeria. We believe that Atiku will perform better than Buhari, having served in Obasanjo’s government. We believe that Atiku will use his wealth of experience to transform Nigeria.”

Bolarinwa said that it was regrettable that former President Olusegun Obasanjo “who brought democracy to Nigeria in the Second Republic could be tagged as a hypocrite by Prof. Wole Soyinka.”

Bolarinwa said that the current administration came to power because Obasanjo supported it in 2015.

He said, “We all know that President Buhari has performed below expectation and that is why Obasanjo is not supporting him again. You cannot expect Obasanjo to fold his arms and allow Nigerians to suffer again. With his attacks on Obasanjo, it is now obvious that Prof. Wole Soyinka is a politician in disguise.

“He should come out in clear terms if he is supporting Buhari for a second term. I don’t know whether he is member of the APC.”

He said Soyinka should tender an unreserved apology to Obasanjo, saying that he should change his opinion about Obasanjo “because Obasanjo is a politician of note and a respected leader in Africa.”

RHAPSODY OF REALITIES

Monday, 14TH JANUARY, 2019

KNOWLEDGE IMPARTS FAITH.

And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free (John 8:32).

Power is activated by knowledge. 2 Peter 1:3 says, “According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue.” Proverbs 11:9 says through knowledge shall the just be delivered. They’re not only delivered from trouble, but necessarily delivered into their inheritance.

As you study and meditate on the Word, not only do you discover your inheritance in Christ, you also receive the faith to relate with, and enjoy all that God has made available to you in Him. Acts 20:32 says, “And now, brethren, I commend you to God, and to the word of his grace, which is able to build you up, and to give you an inheritance among all them which are sanctified.”

The Word has the capacity to build you up like an edifice. It doesn’t matter what the case is; there’s no such thing as “I tried, but it didn’t work”; not with the Word. The Word works, and has power to change your life from glory to glory. However, you must know the Word, and put it to work in your personal life for it to produce results for you.

That’s the reason for the teaching of the truth of God’s Word, because when people become aware of the blessings of the Word, they’re able to embrace and walk in the reality of these blessings. The knowledge of the Word imparts faith and activates the power of the Word in your life: “So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God” (Romans 10:17).

PRAYER
The Word is working in me even now, producing divine results in me. I’m like a tree by the streams, bearing fruits in and out of season, and prospering in all I do, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.

FURTHER STUDY:

Proverbs 18:15 The heart of the prudent getteth knowledge; and the ear of the wise seeketh knowledge.

Hosea 4:6 My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: because thou hast rejected knowledge, I will also reject thee, that thou shalt be no priest to me: seeing thou hast forgotten the law of thy God, I will also forget thy children.

2 Timothy 2:15 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

Dear Father, your Word has enriched me with the right mindset—the mindset of the righteous—such that my response to circumstances and situations are from the standpoint of victory! Thank you for your wisdom that is at work in me to function with the dominion of the Spirit. I function at a high

level of precision, excellence, and perfection because the wisdom of God is at work in me; having been endowed with all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge in Christ. A truck carrying APC branded bags of rice in Ekiti state, crushed over 20 persons to death last night Saturday, January 12th. According to reports, the truck was transporting the branded rice from Abuja, and was en route the Ifaki-Iworoko road in Ado Ekiti, when the accident occurred.

The trailer caused multiple accidents on Iworoko road, as it also affected an 18-seater Toyota bus and a Toyota Corrolla car, thereby causing heavy traffic.
Eyewitnesses say the driver of the truck lost control of the wheels and rammed into the market which was close to the road in Iworoko. Many traders, who were still selling at night, were affected.
Confirming the incident, the spokesperson of the state police command, Caleb Ikechukwu, said

Quote:"The accident actually happened at Iworoko road in Ado Ekiti just this evening and I heard that there were causalities, but I cannot give figures. I am yet to get proper briefing about it. I learnt that the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in charge of that area is now on his way to the scene. So, I cannot give you the details, until he is back to brief us'' he said
The remains of the dead persons have been deposited in the morgue.

Tears and sorrow filled Ovbiogie community in Ovia North East local government area of Edo state after a 35-year-old man allegedly killed his wife and two sons in a fit of anger, following an allegation of infidelity.

The man who was simply identified as Uwaila said to have shot through the door into the room where his wife and children ran into for safety and locked themselves in, following an argument.

In deep despair, sympathizers wailed uncontrollably when officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) came to evacuate the corpses of the mother and sons.

Narrating what happened, the suspect who was in police custody, said his wife accused him of having girlfriends and threatened to retaliate by going out with other men.

Uwaila said he drove out of the house in anger and came back to see that his wife locked herself and his sons inside one of the rooms.

N’delta Will Resist Buhari’s Attempt To Intimidate CJN Onnoghen – Clark
User Avatar Forum: General Discussion
Posted by: Edoman - 01-13-2019, 10:54 PM - No Replies

FORMER Federal Commissioner for Information and Niger-Delta leader, Chief Edwin Clark, has warned that the people of Niger Delta would sturdily defy attempt by President Muhammadu Buhari to harass and force the Chief Justice of Nigeria, CJN, Justice Walter Onnoghen out of office because of the plan by All Progressives Congress, APC, to rig the elections.

Chief Clark, who spoke to Vanguard on phone, said, “The people of Nigeria Delta will not accept the CJN being harassed and forced out of office because President Muhammadu Buhari and his party want someone, who will do their bidding after rigging the elections.”

“Pan-Niger Delta Forum, PANDEF, which represents the traditional rulers, leaders and stakeholders of the coastal states of Niger Delta and indeed the entire Niger Delta people, will never accept it. We will go all out legally to fight this battle and will never yield to anybody. It is pure victimization,” he said.

The elder statesman, asserted, “We were all shocked on Saturday when the news came that the Chief Justice of Nigeria is being charged before the Code of Conduct Tribunal. This is clearly unnecessary harassment of the judiciary, a different arm of government that is independent.”

“First of all, we all know that before the Chief Justice was appointed, the same President Buhari delayed it, refused to appoint him until when he went on leave on health grounds and that enabled the Vice President, who was acting President to send his name to the Senate for confirmation and appointment.
“Buhari has always preferred that one of his kinsmen should be the Chief Justice of Nigeria. CJN Onnoghen has done nothing wrong, you cannot charge him to court because the court lacks jurisdiction to try him. The matter should first got the National Judicial Council, NJC.

“They just want to harass him, molest him simply because they want somebody that will be pliable after they have rigged the elections, to appoint tribunal chairmen and members for them to consolidate their rigging.

“That is all what they are looking for, not any other thing, but I want to warn that this country belongs to all of us, if some people think that they own this country , let them have it and others will have their own country.
“You cannot treat some people as if they are slaves or second-class citizens in this country, we will never allow it, not at this time, the harassment is becoming too much,”
 he hollered.

His words, “The same Mr. President is telling people that he believes in free and fair election, he vowed to do credible election when in the real case his plan is to rig the election and is looking for those who will rig election for him.”

“He appointed his relation as Chairman of the INEC Collation Centre despite the fact that everybody knows that he lived with this woman’s father and the woman’s younger brother is the Minister of Water Resources. What are they thinking of, this country does not belong to a group of people.

“If we want to keep this country together, we must do things to keep it united. Are we saying that the minority will not exist in this country and that northerners will hold all key positions? No and if not, if means we do not want this country,” he said.

Clark commended the South-South governors, who convened an emergency meeting today (Sunday) to deliberate on the matter, saying, “I appeal to the governors and I congratulate the Chairman of the South-South Governors’ Forum, Hon Seriake Dickson, for calling an emergency meeting to deliberate on this matter.”

“We, the leaders and people of the whole of the South-South and Niger Delta are behind the governors. They should declare our stand, Justice Onnoghen should not be harassed, will neither accept nor condone it,” he added.

Again, Factional APC Thugs Attack Saraki's Ilorin Family Residence, Injure 11, Damage 50 Vehicles
For the second time in four days, political thugs loyal to the factional gubernatorial candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kwara State yesterday attacked the Agbaji Ilorin family residence of the Senate President, Dr Bukola Saraki.
The rampaging APC thugs opened fire on residents of the area, wounding at least 11 persons in the process.

They also destroyed about 50 exotic cars parked at various locations within Agbaji Quarters.

It would be recalled that the APC thugs had on Thursday unleashed violence on the people of Agbaji, Adewole and Pakata areas of Ilorin metropolis.
Four members of the Peoples Democratic Party were injured during the Thursday's mayhem.

The development eventuated a press conference that was addressed by the Senate President in Abuja where he raised an alarm about threat to his life and those of his family and supporters.

The yesterday's incident, according to residents of the area, started at about 11:30am when fully armed APC thugs stormed their area and shot sporadically into the air to scare people away.

According to the President of Agbaji Development Association, Alhaji Musa Olanrewaju Yusuf, the rampaging thugs were led by Yahaya Seriki and Musbau Esinrogunjo.

He said 11 people, who sustained injuries from gunshots were taken to General Hospital, Ilorin and a private medical facility for treatment.

He said "The APC thugs came around 11:30am and shot sporadically into the air. In fact, they were provided cover by the DPO Adewole Division of Police. At least,  11 people received injuries from gunshots while about 50 cars including that of Imam Aliagan were destroyed.

"The thugs also carted away four motorbikes and stole money and jewelry from shops deserted by their owners".

It was also gathered that the APC thugs spread the violence to Ajikobi and Omoda areas of Ilorin metropolis.

Commenting on the development, the Director General of the PDP campaign council in the state, Prof. Suleiman Abubakar, said the orgy of violence was being perpetrated by the APC leaders in the state to instill fears in the minds of residence ahead of the coming general elections, having discovered that Kwarans have rejected them.

He called on security agencies in the state to within 48hours arrest and prosecute the perpetrators of both yesterday and Thursday violence in Ilorin.

The state Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Tunde Ashaolu, said yesterday's incident had validated the alarm raised by the Senate President on threat to his life and those of his family and supporters, " which the police made futile efforts to debunk".

Rigging Plot: PDP Hires Former INEC Chairman As Election Consultant – Nabena
User Avatar Forum: General Discussion
Posted by: Edoman - 01-13-2019, 08:09 PM - No Replies

ABUJA – The Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress APC, Yekini Nabena has accused the opposition Peoples Democratic Party PDP of hiring a former Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC as an ‘election consultant’ as part of last-minute strategy to win the forthcoming polls at all costs.

Speaking Sunday in Abuja, Nabena, who declined to to disclose the name of the former INEC chairman, however challenged the PDP and its presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar to deny the allegation and equally charged relevant authorities to investigate the veracity of his allegation.

“Following the exposure of the PDP’s initial plot to use Russian hackers to compromise INEC servers, the PDP has now hired a former INEC Chairman as an election consultant. This INEC Chairman was notorious for rigging elections for the PDP over the years.

“The plan is to use INEC officials who remain loyal to the former INEC Chairman and under his payroll to compromise the system from within.” Nabena said.

Asked to comment on the uproar that greeted the recent appointment of Mrs. Amina Zakari as chair of INEC’s ad hoc committee on National Collation Centre for the 2019 elections, the Bayelsa-born APC Chieftain said Nigerians should not be deceived by the PDP-sponsored protest and fake news over her appointment.

“The baseless protest is a ploy to create a distraction for their (PDP’s) election rigging and hacking plans.

“The PDP has deliberately chosen to be blind to the fact that Mrs. Amina Zakari is not a blood relation of the President as it alleges. In fact, her appointment was done by their very own former President Goodluck Jonathan.

“Besides, INEC has publicly stated the roles of its recently inaugurated adhoc committees. The collation centre committee chaired by Mrs. Amina Zakari is in charge of operational logistics of the centre such as electricity, internet, live transmission as well as accreditation for access to the ICC and security of the venue.

“Mrs. Amina Zakari’s committee is not saddled with actual collation of results. Only the chairman of INEC, who is the returning officer for presidential election, decides the validity of votes”, he said.

2019 Election Is About The Survival Of Nigeria - Obi

Quote:2019 Election is about the survival of Nigeria - Obi

"The 2019 election is not about Alhaji Atiku Abubakar and President Muhammadu Buhari, but about the survival of Nigeria." This was the Vice Presidential candidate of the PDP speaking to the press at Amichi shortly after the dedication of the new Secretariat and the School of Nursing of the Amichi Anglican Diocese at the weekend.

Obi said that the present Government had shown great incapacity for governance that had manifested in all the vices plaguing the country and should not be allowed to continue.

Speaking further, he cited examples of the insecurity in different part of the country such as Borno and Zamfara, homes of the Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Staff, respectively, and even Katsina state, the home of President Buhari.

On the economy, Mr Obi regretted that Nigeria cannot be said to have any economic base at the moment when Nigerian youths in their productive ages had been rendered unproductive due to lack of vision, planning and effective implementation. He said it was unfortunate that under Buhari's APC government, Nigeria had become the poverty capital of the world.

Mr Obi frowned at a situation where a quarter of Nigeria's 2019 budget is devoted only to service of debt, a situation he said portended grave danger for the country.

Obi expressed optimism that with the detribalised and hard working Atiku, Nigeria would be made to start working again.

Saraki Demands Due Process In Move To Try Onnoghen
User Avatar Forum: General Discussion

@Naija Politico

Senate President, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki has advised the Federal Government to ensure that its plans to put on trial the nation’s chief judicial officer, Hon. Justice Walter Onnoghen, follows due process.

Saraki in a statement in Ilorin on Sunday and made available to Naija Politico noted that he believes that if the Government truly has genuine reason to put the incumbent CJN on trial, it should ensure that every step in the process is transparent.

He stressed that the process should be that as clearly stipulated by the law, warning that the government must ensure that the planned trial does not cause chaos in the judicial system.

“A situation where the petition which triggered the trial was submitted to the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB) on Wednesday January 8 and by January 10 on Friday, the Chief Justice was presented with it for his reply only for the charges to be drafted that same day and filed in the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT), all this taking place within three days and commencement of trial fixed for Monday, January 14, already indicate unnecessary haste and short-circuiting of the process of fair hearing.

“It is important for the government and members of the public to know that as somebody who has traveled this route before, we should refrain from any media trial and political players should avoid abusing the judicial process in order to achieve what they could not get through normal political contests.

“Every body who is being tried should be presumed innocent until proven guilty. That is the underlining principle of our justice system.

“The proposed trial of the CJN has once again opened up the debate on the transparency and neutrality of the fight against corruption,” he said.

Saraki expressed grave worry at the haste with which the trial was put up, stressing that only three working days from petition to trial gives room for great concerns.

He stressed that the haste is more worrisome especially considering that there are other pending cases where the individuals involved have been indicted for months and they were yet to be tried or scheduled for trial.

While noting that the anti-corruption fight has become a case of a separate rule for the people close to the executive branch and another set of rules for the rest of Nigerians, the Senate President stated that the fight has been compromised and politicized.

“All these subjective actions politicize the anti-graft fight. They weaken national institutions. They send wrong signals.

“The CJN is not above the law but his trial puts the entire judicial system on trial. It sends a signal to the entire world about our judiciary. It has implications for the confidence of local and foreign investors about the system of adjudication over disputes in our country.

“Thus, the matter should be handled with care, demonstrating intense transparency and strict adherence to due process,” he said.

He added that the entire country and the international community will be watching closely every step in this trial.
