25 persons escape death in Anambra auto crashes
[Image: FRSC.jpg]
No fewer than 25 passengers including four children on Sunday narrowly escaped death in two separate auto crashes that occurred in Awka and Onitsha, Anambra State.

The state’s Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Mr Ayodele Kumapayi, who confirmed the incidents, said that eight persons, however, sustained injuries.
Kumapayi said the Onitsha accident involved two vehicles, a Toyota Lexus car with registration number ABH 178 RC and Toyota Corolla car with registration number FST 555 AJ.

According to him, seven persons including four children were involved in the Onitsha accident, which occurred on the Niger Bridge at about 1:40pm.
“The Lexus car lost control after trying to overtake a trailer, spinned and hit the second vehicle on the Niger Bridge, but thankfully, no life was lost,” he said.

He added that personnel of the corps responded to the distress call within eight minutes and were able to control traffic on the bridge.
The official said the Awka auto crash was reported at 12:01pm same day at Kwata junction along Awka – Onitsha expressway.

According to him, the lone accident involving 18 passengers in a Toyota black bus with registration number JJT 304 XG was caused by speeding.
He explained that the commercial bus heading to Awka from Onitsha lost control and rammed into the drainage along the expressway, resulting in multiple serious injuries by eight passengers in the vehicle.

Kumapayi, who advised motorists against speeding, said all affected vehicles had been removed from the scene of accident to ensure free flow of traffic, NAN reports.

Radiant Swift Keto It requires powerful willpower to stick to keto as if you cheat eat something bad shape will probably be out of ketosis. It also helps with the sole low carb criticism from the media which actually has some truth in it - bad breath, that's caused by ketosis. Though there's some truth in nearly all diets, there's no one diet fits every single.

IPOB Members Waiting For President Buhari In Japan (Photos)

Quote:Members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), reportedly assembled on Japan in anticipation of the visit of President Muhammadu Buhari following the order given by Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the group to ensure his arrest

President Buhari is billed to attend the Seventh Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD7), which will take place in the City of Yokohama from August 28th to 30th. He is expected back on August 31.

A statement by the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, states: “President Buhari will deliver Nigeria’s Statement during Plenary Session Three in which he will appraise Nigeria-Japan relations and takeaways from TICAD6.”

In seperate messages, Kanu had earlier ordered IPOB family units in Japan to ensure Buhari is disgraced as he steps into the country on Sunday for the conference, adding that Japanese Law does not encourage impostors to parade in its country.

He later extend his call to all Nigerians, including the Igbos (Biafrans), Yorubas, Hausas and Middle Beltans to come out emass to ensure “Jubril” is arrested and handed over to Japanese Authorities for investigation.

He said this shortly after members of the group attacked former deputy senate president, Ike Ekweremmadu in Nuremberg, Germany, at a New Yam festival event.

Meanwhile, Kanu said to have forwarded a letter to the Emperor of Japan, Naruhito over his claim on impostor Jubril, the dual version of Nigerian President, Mohammadu Buhari.

Olusegun Runsewe: Bobrisky Is A Disgrace To Nigeria, I Will Deal With Him
User Avatar Forum: News
Posted by: Edoman - 08-26-2019, 11:07 AM - Replies (8)

The Federal Government of Nigeria has threatened to deal with male cross-dresser, Okuneye Idris Olarenwaju, otherwise known as Bobrisky.

Director-General of the National Council for Arts and Culture, Otunba Olusegun Runsewe, made the disclosure in an interview with Vanguard.

His words, “Bobrisky is a national disgrace. He started by selling and using bleaching creams, now, he has grown boobs, bums and hips.

‘If a Bobrisky is doing well with his immoral lifestyle, how do you convince Nigerian youths to do the right thing? Bobrisky has the right, but not within the Nigerian environment.

“There are others like him, but they live outside the country. If we don’t address Bobrisky as early as possible, he will form a team that will spread like wildfire.

“This will result in a lot of suicide cases, because the typical Nigerian parent would not want to see their child become a Bobrisky.

“It’s not an entertainment issue, it’s a war to save Nigeria for a better tomorrow. If you start this kind of war, you are bound to be attacked.

”My job is to preserve and protect the culture of this country. It would be unfair for me to be silent on this. You now find male prostitutes by the roadsides."

CCNN: Bigger, more profitable

[Image: Cement-Company-of-Northern-Nigeria-640x375.jpg]

Cement Company of Northern Nigeria (CCNN) Plc triples its top-line and bottom-line as the gains of recent strategic initiatives and business combination strengthen the outlook of the company. In this report, Capital Market Editor, Taofik Salako, looks at the underlying performance and outlook for the cement producer

Cement Company of Northern Nigeria (CCNN) Plc is one of the highpoints of this earnings season. With three-digit growth in all key performance indices, CCNN recorded well-rounded performance in the first half of 2019. The six-month report for the period ended June 30, 2019 showed that total turnover rose by 166.14 per cent to N32.15 billion in first half 2019 as against N12.08 billion in comparable period of 2018. Gross profit grew by 163.07 per cent from N5.47 billion to N14.39 billion. Profit before tax jumped by 165.3 per cent from N3.66 billion to N9.71 billion. After taxes, net profit leapt by 180 per cent from N2.60 billion in first half 2018 to N7.28 billion in first half 2019. Underlying performance ratios showed a generally stable outlook. Gross profit margin stood at 44.76 per cent. Pre-tax profit margin was steadied at 30.21 per cent while net profit margin improved to 22.64 per cent.

The balance sheet also showed a stronger and better-positioned company with reduced leverage and increased working capital. Total assets rose to N356.75 billion in June 2019 compared with N347.75 billion recorded for the year ended December 31, 2018. Total equity increased from N333.49 billion in December 2018 to N340.77 billion in June 2019. Current assets had risen from N17.28 billion to N23.13 billion while non-current assets had increased from N330.46 billion to N333.6 billion.
The first half 2019 performance places CCNN in good stead to sustain its impressive year-on-year growth and cement its leading position as the fastest growing  cement company. The company had increased total dividend payout for the 2018 business year by 235 per cent to N5.26 billion after turnover and net profit jumped by 62 per cent and 77 per cent respectively. In the audited report and accounts for the year ended December 31, 2018, CCNN’s turnover rose to N31.7 billion in 2018 as against N19.58 billion in 2017. The top-line growth was due largely to increased domestic sales and exports.  CCNN produced 0.76 million metric tonnes of cement and sold over 0.74 million metric tonnes, an increase of about 59 per cent. Sale of cement in Nigeria rose by 49 per cent to N28.9 billion while exports jumped from N0.2 billion in 2017 to N2.9 billion in 2018. Earnings before interest and taxes rose by 86 per cent to N7.9 billion profit before tax increased by 81 per cent to N7.6 billion. Profit after tax rose to N5.86 billion in 2018 as against N2.91 billion in 2017.

New Growth Momentum

CCNN had in December 2018 strengthened its competitiveness and laid out new strategic growth plan with the business combination with Kalambaina Cement Company, a larger and newer Sokoto-based cement company. With CCNN’s pre-merger 500,000 metric tonnes per annum capacity and Kalambaina Cement Company-‘s 1.5 million metric tonnes per annum capacity, the emergent CCNN boasts of 2.0 million metric tonnes capacity, strengthening CCNN’s dominance as North-West Nigeria’s largest cement company and giving the company the volume for aggressive expansion in Nigeria and beyond. Kalambaina Cement plant uses primary fuels such as coal, heavy oils and AGO and it is expected to help solve the power problem with limited downtime and further opportunities for growth and expansion. These competitive advantages are visible in the emerging results. CCNN and Kalambaina Cement Company had related core investor. Damnaz Cement Company Limited held 50.7 per cent majority equity stake in CCNN. Alhaji Abdul Samad Rabiu, who chairs the board of CCNN, held the majority equity stake in Damnaz while his company-BUA International Limited held the 100% stake in Kalambaina. The business combination not only made CCNN a stronger competition in the cement market, it pivoted its ranking at the Nigerian stock market, scaling up to become Nigeria’s 12th largest quoted company.
Most analysts believe the business combination would further boost efficiency, productivity, output and better returns for CCNN.

“The opportunities within CCNN’s key markets and its export potential are almost endless. Situated just about 100km from Niger Republic and as the nearest cement plant to key markets in Northern Nigeria, the enlarged CCNN is now poised to compete effectively and serve those markets better at a lower cost with more energy efficiency through our use of coal,” Rabiu said. Rabiu also hinted of plan to increase the company’s production capacity, while pointing out that the merger has led to introduction of new technology, reduction in operational costs and increase in the number of transport fleet.
“The company recorded its highest domestic exports sale during the year (2018). This was facilitated by the additional output from the enlarged entity. In 2019, we hope to have the full combined capacity of the two entities. With the new capacity, CCNN is now the dominant player in its home market of North West Africa,” Rabiu said.
The Founder and Chief Executive Officer of BUA Group said CCNN is taking advantage of its proximity to the neighbouring West African borders, which has opened a new window for the export operations and revenue generation in foreign exchange.
Managing Director, Cement Company of Northern Nigeria (CCNN) Plc, Engineer Yusuf Binji said the company will sustain its positive growth trajectory as it is now in better and more competitive position to drive growth in its home market and exports.
He said the more benefits of the 2018 business combination and ongoing strategic initiatives will become more pronounced in the period ahead as the company continues to growth with economies of scale, enhanced operations and administrative efficiencies.

Analysts’ opinions

Most analysts are positive about CCNN’s outlook. On the back of the first half 2019 performance, analysts at Cordros Securities flagged CCNN as a high-return stock with potential total return of 124 per cent over the next 12 months. Analysts noted that CCNN’s half-year earnings per share of 55 kobo is tracking well ahead of Bloomberg consensus full-year 2019 estimate of 86 kobo and Cordros’ estimate of N1.01. Analysts described CCNN’s top-line performance as impressive.
According to analysts, CCNN is an attractive buy and its three-digit operational growth could translate into similar three-digit returns. Analysts pointed out that CCNN is trading at significantly below its peers in the Middle East and Africa, making it a more attractive stock.
In its review of the Nigerian cement industry outlook, Cordros noted that irrespective of the constraints in the overall economy, there are still strong triggers for cement producers in Nigeria, especially in the light of government’s aggressive infrastructure development and growing private sector demand.
According to analysts, although there could be competition for cement demand growth from infrastructure development in Nigeria and neigbouring countries, CCNN tops scale of preference because of its proximity to fast growing markets.
“From the perspective of users, CCNN’s new cement plant in Sokoto is the best cement plant in Nigeria, due to the high level of technological configurations which makes end products cure and dry faster. Beyond that, we are encouraged by the company’s potential for margin expansion over the next few years – which should drive earnings per share growth – as the company is able to optimise energy costs, increase capacity utilisation rate, and slightly increase prices,” Cordros stated.

Analysts at Investment One Financial Services Limited also remained positive about the outlook for CCNN, citing the synergies from its recent business combination and market advantage. Analysts said the top-line growth in first half 2019 suggested the company may be recording success in its plan to expand market share to other northern regions of Nigeria, as the North-west region may not have the capacity to absorb new volumes.
According to analysts, while the third quarter may be a tepid quarter due to the rainy season, which slows construction, the company’s top-line performance may see support from potential increase in Federal Government capital expenditure spending following the appointment of executive cabinet and implementation of 2019 budget.

While noting the decline in margin due to increased costs, Investment One said CCNN has potential to deliver improved sales and profitability. “In addition, the cement producer should continue to reap benefits of its merger with Kalambaina Cement if its plans to enter new market and expand market share continues to be successful. We also draw attention to a potential drop in cost in the medium term as its new factory is designed to run on multiple energy sources (such as gas and coal); this is unlike its old factory which is run predominantly with Low Pour Fuel oil (LPFO) which is the most expensive of all energy sources. If a switch in energy sources is effectively implemented, we see potential improvements in margin performance of CCNN as we have previously seen in other players operating in the sector,” Investment One stated.
With almost a consensus on the positive outlook for CCNN, the company appears to be on the right track to further consolidate its impressive growths over the years and increase returns to shareholders.

RHAPSODY OF REALITIES

MONDAY, 26TH AUGUST

SOWING THE WORD

A sower went out to sow his seed… (Luke 8:5).
The Lord Jesus gave a parable of the sower in Luke 8, saying, “A sower went out to sow his seed…” (Luke 8:5). Then in the eleventh verse, He explained that the seed the sower sowed was the Word of God. However, something striking to observe is the fact that He didn’t say, “The sower went in to sow his seed.” Rather, He tells us “He went OUT to sow the Word!”

This lets us know that we have a ministry of the Word to those outside; we must go out to sow the Word. It reminds of the “great Go,” the great commission, in Mark 16:15. The Lord said, “…Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.” Then in the 20th verse, it says, “And they went forth, and preached every where, the Lord working with them, and confirming the word with signs following. Amen.” They went out to sow the Word, to preach the Gospel.

Out in the world is where the sinners are; that’s our mission field: the hedges, the busy crossroads of life—where you have the rendezvous of broken humanity. Our job is to take the Gospel to them, for that’s the power of God unto salvation to everyone who believes.

Therefore, no matter what you do, sow the Word; preach the Word. Win souls now, more than ever, because the time is short. Be dauntless and resolute in your soul-winning efforts. Let nothing dissipate your passion for lost souls.

You might say, “What if they don’t listen to me?” Don’t worry about that. Jesus already told us about the different responses we might get when He narrated the parable of the sower (Read Mark 4:4-8). There’re those who’d certainly listen to you, and the Word will produce fruits of righteousness in them. This should be your joy and focus.

It’s our responsibility, irrespective of the responses we get, to sow, and keep sowing the Word. The Lord has given you a bag of seeds—His words in your spirit; don’t keep it to yourself. Go out and persuade the lost; tell them about the great love the Father has bestowed on them through the Gospel.

2 Corinthians 5:11 says, “Knowing therefore the terror of the Lord, we persuade men....” You’re God’s agent of salvation—specially enlisted in His workforce—ordained to turn sinners from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan unto God.

PRAYER

Dear Father, I thank you for enlisting me as an end time soul winner, armed with the glorious Gospel of Christ. I’m committed to the urgent spread of the Gospel around the world, turning many unto righteousness, by your grace and power at work in me, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.

He added, however, that as a muslim, he took it as his fate.
He said “Of course, I expected that I will be reappointed (as minister) but when it didn’t happen, as a Muslim, it didn’t take me five minutes before I accepted that what has come, it’s the will of God.

Its wrong to make love in full glare of viewers, runsewe tells BBNaija

National Council for Arts and Culture says though the reality show Big Brother Nigeria (BBNaija) platform has united and empowered youths, its erotic content is inimical to the Nigerian culture.
Runsewe in an interview with News Agency of Nigeria on Sunday in Abuja frowned at sexual scenes aired on the show, saying it undermines values that define the culture of Nigerian people.
According to him, the BBN platform has united and empowered youths from different background, but its erotic contents are alien and inimical, especially to young Nigerians.
He said: “Big Brother Naija is okay, but the content needs to be looked into because it does not reflect the culture of us as a people.
“There is nothing wrong with Big Brother Naija, it is a good product where so many Nigerians meet, youths in particular, so we are happy for it.
“But the content is wrong; you cannot be making love, with our children, our youths watching, on air.
“We will not, because of the money Nigerians will win, destroy our tomorrow because of some economic strategy.
“We are not claiming to be saints, but even the British Police have condemned their own person who was involved in the act.
“We want to build a Nigeria with better tomorrow, and make our environment to be seen as culturally friendly, not to promote nudity and immorality,” he said
The DG, however, debunks reports that the NCAC was prevailing on the National Broadcasting Commission to shut down the BBNaija programme and replace it with another one that would be broadcast by Star Times.
He explained that the council, as a custodian and promoter of Nigerian culture, was planning to work with relevant stakeholders to present a reality programme that will promote Nigeria’s rich culture and values.
He, however, added that it was not an initiative being conceived to rival the Big Brother Naija brand.
“What I said is, if they don’t change the content of Big Brother Naija, I will make a formal report to NBC, and I have done that.
“I have respect for constituted authority and I will do the right thing the way it should be done by following due process.
“We are not planning to replace big Brother, we want to have something that reflects Nigeria to the world culturally.
“It will showcase Nigerian food, Nigerian cloth and all that represent whom will are as a people positively,” he said.
The National Council for Arts and Culture, established in 1975, is charged with the responsibility of coordination, development and promotion of the Living Arts and Culture of Nigeria at national and international fora.
NAN reports that Big Brother Naija, formerly known as Big Brother Nigeria, is a Nigerian scripted version of the Big Brother reality competition television franchise.
The first season of the show aired on DStv Channel 37 in 2006, a second edition premiered on January in 2017, a third season premiered in 2018 and a fourth season started on June 30, 2019 in Nigeria.

We steal vehicle brain box in four minute- Arrested thief

The operatives of the Lagos State Rapid Response Squad, a unit of the Lagos State Police Commandments, have arrested two suspects, who specialised in vandalising vehicles and stealing their brain boxes.
The suspects Sodiq Musa, 28 years old, and Saidu Atiku, 34 years old, were arrested at 27, Awolowo road Ikeja with three Toyota vehicle brain boxes while Ridwan Adamu escaped with the fourth box.
One of the suspects, Mr Musa, claimed he was a graduate of Political Science from a Nigerian university where he studied Political Science before he came to Lagos in 2017 in search of greener pasture.
“I worked in Lagos as a barbeque man in various hotels and events before I met Ridwan who introduced me to brain box theft where He taught me all the antics and styles.”
“We use ‘magic stone’ that is, vehicle spark plug to break vehicle windows without attracting attention. It takes two minutes to loose a Toyota Hiace bus brain box and it takes four minutes to lose a Toyota Hilux box”.
“The spark plug reduces the noise and effects quick break of any vehicle window and we tie the plug in a handkerchief in a situation where we have multiple vehicles to work on.”
In his confessional statement to the RRS operatives, Mr Musa told the officers that Mr Atiku was a security guard who works for a company located on that street where they were arrested and had earlier in the day called him, who is the leader of the team, to come feast on vehicles belonging to their company which are parked outside the company’s premises but which he Mr Atiku is supposed to guard.
On getting the hint, Messrs Musa and Atiku set to action and got to the venue around 1:00 a.m. The broke into two Toyota Hiace and two Toyota Hilux belonging to the company which employed Mr Atiku as night guard stealing their brain boxes before another security nearby raised alarm. This led to their arrest. Mr Musa was caught with three boxes while Ridwan fled with one.
Mr Musa was thereafter taken to RRS Headquarters, where he confessed the involvement of Mr Atiku. He disvlosed that he invited them for the operation and was reported to have slept beside the vehicles, which they vandalised and stole from while Mr Atiku cooperated and pretended like nothing was happening.
“We specialised in stealing Toyota brain boxes because they fetch good money in the market. The demand for them are higher than any other brand. For example we sold a Toyota Hiace bus for N40,000 while that of Toyota Hilux goes for N20,000 respectively”.
“Ridwan connects with the buyers of the brain boxes who he claimed are from the popular spare part market in Lagos. We always meet the buyers outside the market where we exchange our loots for cash.
They usually pay in cash and will never wait more than two minutes as we already have an understanding on the prices”.
“Ridwan gives me 40% of whatever we make from the sale of our loots. He has never disclosed where we were to carry out our next operation because he feels he is my boss.
Our target areas are usually night clubs where people come with different types of vehicles. We strike around 1:00 a.m. – 2:00 a.m. when most of the clubbers would have started enjoying themselves”.
The suspect also confessed to have stolen two boxes at a popular night club in Lekki, another at Ogunlana Drive and Allen Avenue, Ikeja. All these areas house popular night clubs and joints in Lagos.
The Commissioner of Police, Zubairu Muazu, in his reaction to the incident directed the transfer of the case to State CID, Panti.
He advised night clubbers in the state to be extra careful while enjoying themselves and leaving their vehicles parked where it’s not safe.

Nollywood actress, Vivian Anani, recently got a role in Zee world

Nollywood actress, Vivian Anani, recently signed a deal with Indian TV channel Zeeworld. The actress speaks to DUPE AYINLA-OLASUNKANMI on the contract, among other issues. Excerpts
Tell us about the Zeeworld contract
We are going back for the season two. First of all, I saw the advert on TV, that all should put in for the all African Zeeworld Prodcution. At first, I didn’t put in much interest because I felt they would have selected those they needed. So, someone called and said I should put in for the entry; that a director by the name Abbey Osho recommended me. I give all the credit to Abbey Osho and Mike Ellen.
I had just finished a production and I was still in my hotel room and the cleaner, who happened to be a young guy, after the phone, call said ‘ma’am, I think you should put in for the production.’

I was like, ‘so you have been listening to my conversation.’ He quickly apologised and said, ‘Aunty, you never can tell’. So, I said, ‘even if I wanted to, I could not because we were supposed to send in a video.’ Eventually, the young guy ended up helping me out with the recording of the video and sending it. To show how reluctant I was about the whole thing, I didn’t remember to include my name and a lot of other things. Mike had to call me back and ask me to send pictures too.
Less than 24hours later, from India, I got a call. I had been picked to play the lead role of the mother of the house from the lot of more than 2000 people that applied from all the African countries.
I was like, is this for real? The next day, I got another call asking for my fee. And they mentioned a fee I had never heard in my life before. (Laughs) Yes, they mentioned millions. And then I said, ‘can I call you back?’ I dropped the call and screamed. So, what I have been doing for so many years have finally paid off. `
I picked up my phone and called the person who recommended me to thank him and told him that I have been picked. I was still not convinced until the day I was asked to come and sign the papers. Though there was a little changes in what was offered, sincerely I was not after what has been changed but the platform, which was the best I had ever been offered.
Even if I wasn’t paid, that platform was what I was after. It goes beyond the money. This is an international project. I have never done one before. All my work has been done here in Nigeria. And everyone knows Zeeworld is a massive platform.
Is the series on air?
I am looking forward to it. It is yet to be aired. There is one airing now called Miyark. It is Indian and South Africans. Ours is the first all Africans. But we were told it will go on air soon. It might be after Miyark. Maybe they don’t want to have two Africans series at the same time.
How was the experience like for you while on set?
It was not easy. In fact, let me say no job has ever stressed me like that of the Zeeworld contract. No job has been challenging to me as an actor as what I did there. Because I have never on set taken on 13 pages off hand and played them out.  We shoot randomly. By 5am, I am on set till the next morning. It was very challenging for me but I think it also built me up the more for more future challenging roles. They say ‘no pain, no gain’. I thank God.
What has kept you going as an actor?
Focus. And I discipline myself. And I keep studying, yearning for more knowledge. So, I try to make myself better each time I take up new role because no knowledge is a waste. And I also try to maintain a good relationship with any production outfit I work with. For instance, the work I am doing currently is due to trust and relationship. I have been with Wale Adenuga Production for 10 years now, way back when Superstory started. They keep calling me back. If I didn’t have a good relationship with them then, I bet they won’t call me back. So, I think it is important to maintain a good relationship anywhere you find yourself.
Tell us about your new trim look
(Laughs) I am aging, so I am cutting down on a lot of things. I am trying to be careful not to be overweight. And the Zeeworld job I just finished too really stressed me out but it is okay. Maybe I should add a little.
What was the reaction from fans?
There have been mixed feelings. Some have seen me and are in shock and ask me to go back to my former shape. And some want me to maintain the new look. But in all, health is more important.
Sometimes we watch weight and not the healthy part. Even if you are trimming down, make sure you are healthy. It is something to be careful about.
You are usually referred to as ‘Queen of soaps’. Why preference for soaps?
Soaps are educative, informative and entertaining too. Not that movie is not, but soaps keep you there. And those things that are tolerated in movies are not tolerated in soaps. There are some kinds of scenes you can do in movies and get away with, but in series which are family drama, you cannot get away with them. So, every time you are there, it is to pass a message, because families sit together to watch. It is not that I don’t do movies but I do the ones that come my way. If I have a decent script, I will do it. Recently, I have featured in a lot of movies. They will start showing soon.
Is it because the late Tony Omale is no more that ‘One Love’ ended too?
May his soul rest in peace. We were TV husband and wife and he passed on. I don’t know if that is the reason the soap was rested. But recently, I got a call from the executive producer, Tajudeen Adepetu, that they have done new cast. But a date for the shoot is yet to be communicated. I am sure we will be getting back on set soon. I am excited. I cannot wait to get back on the set of ‘One Love’. It is one of my favourites.
Do you have a personal project on the line?
If I have time before we go on set for the second season of the Zeeworld production, I have a short film I want to shoot. It is my first personal work, hopefully, by December when we will be having the Calabar Festival. This is the first time I will be running my own movie. I don’t want to spill all out until we are ready to roll.

Oil Discovered In Lagos Water Wells

Quote:By Agbonkhese Oboh

Residents of Akoka, a Lagos suburb, were shocked when they woke up to the sight of workers of a petrol dealer bailing out fuel from a neighbour’s well, on a fateful day in 2017. Then St. Finbarrs’ College Road, Abdullahi Street, Aiyetoro Street, Oyenuga Street, Wulemotu Ajoke Street, Rickett’s Close, Shobande Street and Sholanke Street, all in Akoka, developed a thing in common— fuel-contaminated water flows from their taps. By August 2018, residents were scooping fuel from gutters and when hot coals from a roadside food vendor fell into the gutter at Abdullahi Street, combustion followed, sending the residents scampering for safety.

[Image: AYETORO-STREET-pix.jpg?resize=640%2C454&ssl=1]
•A borehole on Aiyetoro Street, one of the affected sources of water

At about this time, a fuel station, the only such station in the area, admitted at a meeting convened by Zonal Operation Controller, Department of Petroleum Resources, DPR, Lagos Zonal Operations, that they lost 33,000 litres of fuel in their underground tank. It wasn’t the only mediation meeting held on the matter; Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency, LASEPA, and National Oil Detection and Response Agency, NOSDRA, organised some.

At one of such meetings, then-Commissioner for Environment issued certain directives: that an Environmental Forensic Audit, EFA, be undertaken by LASEPA, the station be sealed pending the EFA outcome, boreholes sunk by the petroleum marketing to be decommissioned, the dealer to work with the State Water Corporation to connect all affected residents to water grid, before then ensuring uninterrupted potable water supply and making the EFA results available to all stakeholders. None was obeyed for any length of time.

The residents were barred from a subsequent meeting called by DPR on October 24, 2018, and when the EFA result appeared a year later, July 25, 2019, it read: “Presence of PMS in groundwater was found to be NIL(0.00mg/L) with suggestions of other contaminants, such as aliphatic hydrocarbon.” The residents screamed blue murder, alleging manipulation. In fact, they accused Mr. Segun Adesanya, Chairman, Akoka Community Development Association, CDA, of being on the side of their enemies.

I can only do so much —CDA Chairman

When Sunday Vanguard reached out to Adesanya, the CDA Chairman, he admitted that it is a complicated case.

“However, CDA is not a regulatory body,” he said. “We have reported to Lagos State government and the relevant bodies are into the matter. It is not for me to tell the regulatory bodies what to do. Sadly, so many residents are not members of the CDA and never attended any meeting. But when this case came up, they expect so much from the body. I still have to be concerned about those affected and do my best. Although it will be very irresponsible of me not to take any action, I am being very careful. I have all the relevant documents with me and I am doing my best.”

On the EFA results, he said: “If the regulatory body says this is the situation, I do not have the power to question them or the resources to carry out a private investigation. I can fight, but I must know what I am fighting for.”

Meanwhile, the petroleum marketing company’s representative in the matter said on phone: “I am neither Mr. Segun Taikomo nor Total’s Environmental Manager. If you want him, come to the reception and book an appointment. Mr. Taikomo must be the person that used this line before me.”

He, however, did not respond to an SMS to his line stating that investigation revealed that the very active line belongs to a Mr. Segun Taikomo, who works with Total.

…threatening dimension

Besides the looming epidemic of cancerous diseases that activists, NGOs and medical doctors think the residents are brewing by drinking, cooking and bathing with fuel-water solution, some of the victims said they had been threatened, while some said activists were warned to stay off the matter.

Chief Newton Chibuno, conqueror of the Sahara Desert and Founder of Fight Against Desert Encroachment, FADE, shocked those present at a briefing taggedTotal Must Do Right, when he said he got phone calls urging him to stay away from Akoka residents and their fight. “But,” he concluded, “that warning only served to boost my resolve to join this struggle, because it means you are doing the right thing.” He advised residents to seek international accreditation for their movement, so they can ensure transparency and extend their reach.

Also allegedly warned against associating with the victims was Mr. Ademorin Kuye (Shomolu Federal Constituency), Vice Chairman, Rules and Business Committee, House of Representatives. He defied the warning, and was physically present at the briefing to receive a petition against Total Nigeria Plc and the concerned dealer, Alhaji Aleem Maruf. Also present was Mrs Ifeamaka Umeike, a Safety, Risk and Reliability Engineer, and a victim. She has been active in the fight to get their water cleaned; then strange faces began to stalk her family. Her daughter had to be sent out of the country.

However, the main threat, experts said, is in the nearest future as the fuel-laden water gradually damages the body. After residents narrated their woes and how their bodies were reacting to contaminated water, the experts spoke. There was Francis Duru, a Professor of Anatomy, LUTH; Dr. Adedapo Oshinowo; Eniola Akintunde of Niola Cancer Care Foundation; and Achike Chudi, among others.

The consensus was that the residents risk developing blood-related cancer, damaged testicles/ova, kidney, liver, and DNA mutations, as they continue to use hydrocarbons-laden water. These diseases do not exist in the world of the resident in whose well the petroleum marketing workers were fetching fuel, as she cheekily told a neighbour: “Oil has been discovered in my well.”

But how long that world can remain free of the disaster experts predict is dependent not on who is wrong or right, but the willingness of all involved to think of what is involved—the health of humans everywhere in Lagos. For, besides the over 600 residents directly affected, there are no fewer than four bottled/sachet water manufacturers in the affected area. “For these reason,” said Mr. Akinbode Oluwafemi, Deputy Director, Environmental Rights Action, ERA, “this struggle will not die. Lives, jobs and health are involved. We are coming to Abuja to let them know that as it is in the Niger Delta, it now is at Akoka and we will take samples of the water to the best laboratory in the world.”

Man Rapes His 5-Year-Old Niece To Get Back At His Brother (Photo)

A man named Mustapha Kabiru has allegedly raped his brother’s five-year-old daughter to teach him a lesson, according Sahara Reporters.
The victim, Fatimah Ayuba, was said to have been rushed to the Federal Medical Center Yola, Adamawa State, for medical attention following profuse bleeding from her vagina as a result of the incident.

Kabiru, a mobile phone repairer, reportedly had a long running feud with his brother, Ayuba, currently serving a jail term in Lagos, and therefore decided to molest the little girl to get back at him.
It was also gathered that the family never wanted to seek medical help for the victim for fear of exposing the matter to the public but the girl was eventually taken to the hospital through the help of one Hauwa Garba.
Confirming the incident, Information Officer at FMC Yola, Mohammed Dodo, told Sahara Reporters that the girl was bleeding profusely when she was brought into the hospital.

He said, “Fatimah was referred from Yola Specialist hospital on Saturday due to profuse and uncontrolled bleeding from the vagina. Her condition couldn’t be managed at the specialist hospital, that’s why she was transferred to the FMC, which has better facilities.”

Reacting to the report, the Public Relations Officer of the police in Adamawa, Suleiman Nguroje, said the command will commence investigation once the case is reported to them.

Police Arrest Three Highway Robbers In Ogun (Photo)

The police in Ogun State have arrested three suspected highway robbers alleged to have terrorised Odogbolu/Ijebu-Ode Expressway.
Johnson Afokolu, Victor Michael and Jacob Usang were arrested on Saturday morning by a police patrol team that saw them allegedly taking position to attack early travellers.
The suspects were said to have attempted to flee when they sighted the policemen but were chased and apprehended.

It was gathered that a toy gun, knife, phones, substances suspected to be Marijuana, military accoutrements and torches were from them.
“They confessed to have been responsible for most armed robbery cases in the area and that other members of the gang usually joined them on special operations,” said police spokesman Abimbola Oyeyemi, a Deputy Superintendent (DSP).
He said the Commissioner of Police Bashir Makama has ordered the immediate transfer of the suspects to the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) for discreet investigation while massive manhunt for their accomplices have commenced.

President Buhari Leaves For Japan With Governors Of Kwara, Borno & Lagos States

According to Vanguard, President Muhammadu Buhari has on Sunday departed Abuja for Japan to participate in the Seventh Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD7) holding in the City of Yokohama, ignoring the threat issued against him by the leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.

Kanu had directed his group in Japan to attack, humiliate and arrest Buhari if he (Buhari) visits Japan. His directive has long been condemned by Nigerians who took to their social media handles to criticise Kanu, calling him coward and ingrate.

In another development, Kanu wrote to the Emperor of Japan ‘Naruhito of Japan’, telling him that Buhari’s visit would desecrate the Royal Palace in Tokyo.

I was shocked when my name was missing on Buhari’s ministerial list- Adebayo Shittu

Adebayo Shittu, the immediate-past Minister of Communication, says he was shocked when he found out his name wasn't on the Ministerial list for the 2nd term of President Buhari.

Shittu who was the Minister of Communication in President Buhari's first tenure, said he felt bad about his exclusion but he has since taken it in good fate.  President Buhari reappointed 14 former ministers and 29 new ones which included seven females, Shittu was part of 18 ex-ministers who did not make the list.

Speaking in an interview, Shittu said

Quote:“Of course, I expected that I will be reappointed (as minister) but when it didn’t happen, as a Muslim, it didn’t take me five minutes before I accepted that what has come, it’s the will of God. And I have also found comfort in a Quranic verse when God promised that what is to come later is better than what is with you now. So for me, it says we must accept that there is always something better with God which he gives to his beloved.
“I see myself as a beloved of God. I have come a long way and I have served at the state and national levels and the experience that I have garnered over the last three and half years cannot be purchased from the stores or from the market''.
He was the youngest lawmaker at the age of 26 to be elected a member of the Oyo State House of Assembly in 1979.

BBNaija: Khafi Won Herself Her First Car In The Innoson Challenge (Photos)

August 24, 2019

In the spirit of celebrating ‘Proudly Nigerian’, the Pepper Dem Gang got up to a fun day, courtesy of Innoson Vehicle Manufacturing Company.
From rich Nigerian dishes to great Nigerian music and speeches, the Housemates served all shades of Nigerian flavour.
Wholly Furnished

Dressed in their Innoson t-shirts and face caps, the Housemates got kitted up to an action-packed day.
Trust some of the Pepper Dem ladies to adorn the clothing pieces with accessories and well-befitting shoes to complete the occasion.
The ‘Gbedu’ Donors

As some form of entertainment, Biggie instructed the Pepper Dem Gang to ensure that at least one Housemate must be entertaining the House with proudly Nigerian music, while the food preparation was in progress. Well, not every time Biggie’s DJ, sometimes, pick up a Pepsi bottle and sing away.
You can already tell who unleashed the musicians in them as soon as the Task commenced. Even our Pepsi Know Da Lyrics winner wasn’t left out. In fact, she led the singing Challenge at some point. To show the Housemates why she was crowned the winner of the Lyrics Challenge, perhaps?
From ‘Sweet Mother’ by Prince Miko Mbanga, to “Your Waist’ by Iyanya and ‘Aye’ by Davido, the Pepper Dem musicians sure entertained us all the way, that we didn’t even notice their croaky voices.

Ingredients, please?
Biggie treated his guests to a wholesome Nigerian meal of ‘akara’ and ‘pap’ for breakfast. Shortly after, Big Brother asked them to reciprocate the gesture by cooking a rich Nigerian dish for him and the Ninjas. The twist was to do this using only the available ingredients in the House, with no extra ingredients to be provided.
In two hours, the Housemates came to an agreement and prepared the Nigerian delicacy – Poundo potato and Egusi soup. Thanks to Tacha, Frodd and Sir Dee, Biggie had a great breakfast.
The Innoson Adventure
Presented with the Innoson IVM Fox, the Pepper Dem Gang were Challenged to individually present a three to four minutes presentation on what makes them Proudly Nigerian.
With Cindy taking the lead and Venita wrapping it up, the Housemates each gave reasons why they’re proudly Nigerian.
For the next Challenge, the Housemates were Tasked to pick up one of the ribbons tied to the front grill of the Innoson IVM Fox. They were required to grip the ribbons firmly while standing upright throughout the Challenge.
The Pizza Lawbreakers
As usual, no Task happens in Biggie’s House without rules being scorned. While we had the regular offenders, Biggie expressed his disappointment to the wrongdoers in today’s Task. As soon as the Ninja arrived with pizza distractions, majority of the Housemates (led by Esther), dropped the ribbons and rushed to grab a slice of pizza each.
Of course, punishment awaits the crooks but till then, enjoy the pizza Housemates.
…And Then They Were Four
All Housemates except Khafi, Mercy, Jackye and Cindy lost grip of the ribbons. For this reason, Biggie expressed his satisfaction for their ability to follow his rules and in doing so, exhibited the true ‘Proudly Nigerian’ spirit.
As time went by, these four were given distracting elements as well as harder Challenges. From music sessions to rich Nigerian delicacies, their individual strengths were tested.
The Innoson Champ
Hands shaking, necks bending, eyes twitching, one by one the Innoson contestants were eliminated. From Jackye to Cindy and finally Mercy, we finally arrived at a winner in the Task.
For the sole act of being the last Housemate holding on to the ribbon, Khafi won the Challenge and the Innoson IVM Fox. She left the Arena with smiles and congratulatory messages from her fellow Housemates as she earned what appeared to be her first car. Way to go girl!

Nnamdi Kanu is 'senseless' for planning to attack Buhari in Japan - Deji Adeyanju

Nnamdi Kanu is 'senseless' for planning to attack Buhari in Japan - Deji Adeyanju

Human rights activist, Adeyanju Deji, has described as ‘senseless’ the order given to the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, to attack President Buhari in Japan.

Deji also described Nnamdi Kanu as a businessman who is sponsored by some elements in the North with the intention to ruin the Igbo race.

Read his full statement below...

Quote:Permit me to start with the words of Marthin Luther King: “In spite of temporary victories, violence never brings permanent peace. We adopt the means of nonviolence because our end is a community at peace with itself. We will try to persuade with our words, but if our words fail, we will try to persuade with our acts.”
You have heard me say before and I will say again, Nnamdi Kanu is only a business man looking for where to collect money. He is not driven by ideology or love for the igbos. After attacking his fellow Igbo brother, Senator Ike Ekweremadu who played a significant role in ensuring his release from Kuje Prison in Germany, Kanu the businessman has called on some of his miscreants/supporters to attack President Buhari as he visits Japan.
Those who were doubting me when I said Kanu is being sponsored by some element in the North can now see the clear handwriting on the wall. How can any reasonable person openly call for an attack on the president of a nation on foreign soil? Even if you don’t like Buhari or what he represents, at least we must respect the fact that he is the president of our country.
Do you think Kanu does not know the danger of attacking Buhari in Japan. He knows but those sponsoring him are doing everything humanly possible to ensure no Igbo man ever rule Nigeria and also put peace loving igbos in the North in danger by setting them up for reprisal attacks by Buhari’s fanatical supporters.
The other plot is also to use Kanu to divide igbos by creating an atmosphere of war. The plan of the sponsors of Kanu is to provoke the political leaders in the South East, i.e -governors and other elected officials to the point that they will have no other option but to orchestrate attacks against Kanu and his supporters in retaliation. Kanu only worships money and will not stop the verbal attacks on Igbo leaders in as much as his paymasters continue to send him alerts.

I pray they arrest all of you - Georgina Onuoha tells Slay Queens and Slay Thieves

Georgina Onuoha shared her prayer for Slay Queens and Slay Thieves in a rejoinder comment to a statement she shared earlier on the arrest of 77 Nigerians by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).

LIB reported earlier that the US based Nollywood actress turned Nurse took a swipe at Nigerian celebrities who take pride in celebrating people with questionable source of wealth. She also dragged Slay Queens who display so much luxury on Instagram without any known source of income.

In a new post she shared, Georgina Onuoha stated that the FBI keeps tabs on all posts shared by Slay Queens and Slay Thieves on social media. The mother of two also revealed other channels the FBI gathers its information as she encouraged hardworking Nigerians in the country and in diaspora.

Lamenting over the moral decadence in the country, Georgina stated that people who derive joy in defrauding innocent people will also be served same when apprehended. She wrote;

Quote:Life on the fast lane.

Note to all the Slay Queens/Slay thieves: As you display your ill gotten wealth on social media, just remember that Uncle FBI is keeping a tab on you. So please continue ??. As you fly around Europe and the globe, just remember they The the information of your grant grandma village is with the US government. Your next door neighbor even in your village might just be an under cover agent tracking you. So please continue and we pray they arrest you all and house clean our society.

To every hand working man or woman in Nigeria and diaspora, you labor is valid. Keep doing your best.. There is dignity in hard labor. You can go to bed at night and sleep well.
I weep for the moral depression consuming our society. The quest to show off, flaunt childish nonsense and impress miscreants leads you no where other than shame and pain.
To all the Slay Queens and Slay thieves living beyond tyour means and putting our impressionable youths under pressure, your day of reckoning is at hand. Interpol is watching. Continue your shameless thievery. We now live in a society where mothers don’t question their sons and daughters about their sudden wealth, a society where women don’t ask their spouses what they do?
Children can’t speak to the conscience of their parents, pastors preach prosperity and not salvation from their pulpit, Politicians embezzle funds meant to develop their communities and uplift their next generation, a society where teenage girls marry their ancestors because of riches. The moral decadence ravaging our country is palpable.
If your joy is to take a clandestine approach to defraud innocent people, so shall clandestine measures be used to apprehend you. God bless all giving their utmost best to live a decent life. Integrity over money any day.

FAAN Shuts Down Enugu Airport For Repairs
User Avatar Forum: Market Place
Posted by: Edoman - 08-25-2019, 04:21 PM - No Replies

The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has finally shut down Akanu Indian International Airport Enugu.

The Airport was shut down 2300 hours (12 midnight Friday).
However, a concession was given to Ethiopian Airline flight to land on Saturday because it was a pre-scheduled international flight before the decision to shut the airport.

The airline had argued that the cost of conveying passengers from Port-Harcourt International airport to Enugu by road and providing accommodation for them would be too heavy on the airline, and therefore should be allowed to drop the passengers at Enugu since the flight was scheduled before announcement to shut down the airport.

FAAN had on Saturday August 17 announced it’s intention to close down the runway of Akanu Ibiam International Airport on Saturday, August 24, to effect maintenance that will enhance safety operations.

Henrietta Yakubu, the General Manager, Corporate Affairs of FAAN, dropped the hint in a press statement in Lagos.

“This move is aimed at resolving the existing Safety/Security concerns to flight operations,” she said.

She stressed that the date of the re opening will be communicated in due course.

Despite a passionate letter written to President Muhammad Bihari by governors of South East states to weight in and pressure FAAN to postpone the shutdown pending when alternative arrangements were made, the Federal Government went ahead with the shutdown.

Tinubu, Fayemi, Akintoye deny knowledge of new Yoruba leader’s emergence

[Image: Tinubu-17-7-19.jpg]Tinubu
2023: I Have Work To Do For Now — Fayemi
Barely 48 hours after he allegedly emerged the new leader of the Yoruba race, emeritus Professor of History and Second Republic Senator, Seth Banji Akintoye has denied knowledge of such happening.
Akintoye was said to have thrashed the National Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu by 73 to three votes, at an event coordinated by some Yoruba self-determination groups in Ibadan, Oyo State, on Thursday.
But the retired scholar insists he knows nothing about the election of a new leader, and was not at the venue of the election, but only heard the news on the radio, television and read it in the newspapers just like everyone.

In similar vein, Governor Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti State Fayemi has described as fallacy, claims that he backed Akintoye’s candidacy, and also sponsored the meeting, where he was elected.
Groups and individuals that participated in the election include the Baale of Ekotedo, Chief Taye Ayorinde; Chief Deji Osibogun; members of the Oodua Peoples Congress (New Era); Oodua Redemption Alliance; Majiyagbe Oodua Vanguard, and Awari Omo Oduduwa; among others.
At the event, the Second Republic senator was adopted as the fourth Yoruba leader after the late Chief Obafemi Awolowo, Pa Adekunle Ajasin and Senator Abraham Adesanya, with no mention of incumbent Afenifere leader, Pa Reuben Fasoranti, who is currently considered the Yoruba leader by virtue of his position.
But in a telephone chat with The Guardian, yesterday, Akintoye said, “I wasn’t at the venue, neither did I get privy knowledge of the election. I heard, and read the news in the media. I also want to clear the air that Governor Fayemi does not know anything about it and he is not sponsoring me.”
The professor ascribed the development to the impatience of some young men and self-determination groups, who were as worried as we the older generation about what is happening to Yoruba land in terms of insecurity, politics and economic downturn.
He stressed: “They are in a hurry and I cannot blame them; neither should we disparage their actions. Those alleging that Fayemi is the one behind it are wrong. The Governor is like a son to me, just as we are from the same state, but I can say clearly that he is not sponsoring me or any group to elect a new Yoruba leader.”
Akintoye, however, said he would make a statement on the development after due consultations, cautioning the younger generations against dishonouring the efforts of elders, who have spent their lives fighting just courses, and seeking the good of Yoruba nation and the country.
Fayemi, who spoke through his Chief Press Secretary (CPS), Mr. Yinka Oyebode, denied sponsoring the event and doing anything to prepare grounds for his alleged 2023 presidential ambition, as some people are already assuming.
Oyebode said: “There is iota of truth in the allegation that Governor Fayemi backed Prof. Akintoye’s candidacy, and also sponsored the meeting.
Those saying that are not being fair to the renowned scholar. Prof Akintoye is an eminent personality with very outstanding credentials and contribution to national development. He is eminently qualified for any leadership role and to lead any organisation. The Governor doesn’t have to push prof’s credentials before he is recognised; he is eminently qualified for any leadership role.”
On the issue of 2023 presidency, Oyebode said, Fayemi has made it clear that he has a job as the Governor of Ekiti State and he is putting his best in terms of focus, attention and energy into the task of rebuilding the state and making life better for the people, as well as, building a truly prosperous state. While doing this, he is also working with the various organs of government at the various levels to ensure that the APC government led by President Muhammadu Buhari succeeds in taking the country and its people to the next level of development and prosperity.”
He added that the noise about Fayemi’s presidential ambition is from the figment of the imagination of those peddling the rumour. “The primary assignment before the Governor now is to ensure good governance in Ekiti State and to deliver the dividends of democracy to those that elected him.
A close source to Tinubu, who asked not to be named also distanced the national leader of the APC from the Yoruba leadership tussle.

The five individuals were transported to area hospitals after being treated by paramedics while one was treated and released on-site. The injuries did not appear to be life-threatening, the statement added.

Babangida introduced me to crime, I’m APC member – Kidnap kingpin

Notorious kidnap kingpin, Hamisu Bala, popularly known as Wadume, has made some shocking revelations about his criminal activities.

Wadume, who said he dropped out of school after junior secondary education, also revealed that one Babangida Musa introduced him to crime.

The kidnap kingpin also revealed that he is currently a member of the All Progressives Congress, APC, after dumping the PDP and helped the party win election in the presidential and senatorial election in Ibi town.

Wadume also revealed how the policemen who arrested him were killed by men of Nigerian Army who rescued him.

According to him, “I am 34 years old and married to four wives. I have only four children as two of my wives are yet to conceive. We are eight of us from my mother’s womb and my parents are dead. Due to financial constraint, I had to drop out of school after Junior Secondary School. I attended Government Secondary School, Ibi,” he was quoted by Saturday Sun as saying.

“In Ibi, we are farmers and my father used to be a fisherman. Based on the experience I got when I normally followed him to the river, I started buying and selling fish. It is not easy to catch it by yourself because of the waves and for fear of dying, I decided to restrict myself and was only buying and selling fish. I used to make as much as N5, 000 on a daily basis. I did that for years till I gathered enough money to start my own fish pond.

“I continued in that business till six years ago when my friend Babangida Musa introduced me to the business of buying and selling guns. He imports them from neighbouring countries and sell to me. I am a youth leader, so I have a strong relationship with a lot of bad boys that is why I knew that I would surely excel in the business.

“I started buying only AK-47 rifles from him at the price of N400, 000 and sold them to my customers at the price of N750, 000. Some of my customers are Yakubu Yamaza and one Halilu. Yakubu buys them in large quantities because he normal sells the guns to Fulani bandits and others. He is one of my constant buyers.

“Halilu is a notorious kidnapper and I preferred selling AK-47 rifles to him as a way to guarantee that he will not pick me up one day. In fact, his gang members almost got me but when I told them who I was, they released me. I cannot recall the number of AK-47 guns that I sold to him. I swear to God, I have never kidnapped anybody but I know a lot of them who are kidnappers. They normally buy AK-47 guns from me.

“I was making so much money, so I decided to use the money to buy cars and motorcycles for commercial purpose. I am also a politician and a youth leader. I made so much money from politicians.

“I joined politics about 10 years ago while I was a fish farmer. I was very active and that was why I was made the Sariki Matata (youth leader) of Ibi town. I started as a member of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and switched over in 2015 to All Progressives Congress (APC). In the 2019 election, APC won the presidential and senatorial election in Ibi town. During the governorship election, I switched over to PDP and assisted them to win. In politics, if you want to make money, one needs to join the winning team. I couldn’t get the ticket of PDP or APC to contest for State House of Assembly. Luckily, Young Democratic Party (YDP) accepted me but I still lost the election.

“As a youth leader, money meant for the youth was given to me. I am to mobilize them, hire thugs where necessary and make arrangement for weapons that can be used to protect our people. There is a lot of killing in my state, so it’s wise to always protect yourself in-case of any attack. It was during 2015 and 2019 elections that I made so much money to acquire cars and houses.

“On the day he was rescued by some soldiers, he added “On August 7 at about 6pm, I was in my house with some family and friends when policemen arrived and arrested me. Everyone was begging them, but they said that I am a kidnapper and handcuffed my legs and hands.

“On our way, we passed through three checkpoints. The first was that of the army and after identification, they allowed us to go. The second one was that of mobile policemen and they also allowed us to continue. It was at the third checkpoint that we wasted a little time but they allowed us to go after the policemen convinced them that they were real.

“Five minutes after we left that point, an army patrol vehicle started shooting at us. Our vehicle got hit and summersaulted severally. When we finally crashed and stopped, everybody was alive except for bullet wounds. The bullets hit part of my scrotum.

“The soldiers quickly rescued me and took me to a red saloon car and we drove off immediately. Initially, I thought they were bandits dressed in military uniform and wanted to kidnap me. It was when we got to Captain Balarabe’s house that I knew that I wassafe.

“The Captain was there and he called the DCO of Ibi Police Division, one ASP Aondona Lorbee. He came to the house and told the Captain that he could not find the key. They then brought an iron cutter and cut the handcuffs on my hands and legs.

“I was outside when I saw the soldiers drive in with four dead men. They dropped them on the ground and I realized that these were the people who arrested me. I was shocked because they were all alive after the vehicle summersaulted.

“Even the DCO saw the dead bodies and just looked at them and left the compound. While the dead bodies were still on the ground, I decided to find my way before anyone will know that I was there. One of the boys that I saw in the compound used his motorcycle to take me to the house of one of my friends, Saidu.

“By then the news of my arrest and escape has spread everywhere. I immediately rented a speedboat and escaped to Tunga village in Nasarawa. I slept there and also used the opportunity to contact my family members. The ones in Ibi told me that soldiers came to the house to look for me, that they asked that I should not allow police to catch me. It was better for me to come to them first as they will guarantee my safety.

“I refused to go back because I was already scared that they killed those policemen. I knew that if they catch me, I will be killed. I ran to my Uncle’s house in Kano. I went there because, he is related to my late mother and the house that he is living in belong to me. He only advised me to report myself to the police and stop running. I decided to stay away from the border because it’s guarded by the military and my face is now known by all.

“It was my uncle who called a doctor to treat the bullet wound that affected my private part. It is possible that I cannot use it again because of the damage and I discovered that when I wake up in the morning, I no longer have erection.

“While I was hiding, friends who knew where I was collected N3 million from me. They said that they were going to use it to pay journalists, so that they will be writing good report about me. It was when I was arrested, that I knew that they did not do anything. I was terrified when men in mufti broke into our house in Kano. I thought they were hired to kill me till I discovered they were policemen.

“I did not ask soldiers to kill anyone. I was happy they rescued me, but I’m happier that police has rearrested me and I’m still alive.

“I am not a kidnapper but I supply arms to different gangs. I make enough money as a businessman. I know that I have committed a crime selling guns; I am willing to change for good.”

Presidency explains Abba Kyari, Boss Mustapha’s roles in Aso Rock, reveals why ministers must go through Chief of Staff, SGF

The Presidency on Saturday cleared the air on the responsibilities of the President Muhammadu Buhari’s Chief of Staff, Abba Kyari, and that of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, SGF, Boss Mustapha.
Recall that at the end of a two-day retreat organicsed for Ministers designate and senior government officials, [url=https://dailypost.ng/2019/08/20/go-kyari-mustapha-buhari-bars-ministers-direct-access/]President Buhari had ordered the incoming Ministers to submit any request meant for him to his Chief of Staff,
Mallam Abba Kyari and all executive matters to the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, SGF, Boss Mustapha.

Reacting to the controversies generated by the new directive, the Presidency, in a statement forwarded to DAILY POST by Buhari Spokesman, Garba Shehu, said “recent media and social media reports on the responsibilities of the Chief of Staff to the President have suggested that the role has changed. This is not the case.
“Today, under the Buhari II administration the role of Chief of Staff remains the same as it was under Buhari I.
“It is worth stressing that the role and responsibilities of the Chief of Staff and the method of communication and arranging scheduling between Cabinet members and the President are, in Nigeria, based on the US model, where the same system operates – and has done for decades – in precisely the same way.

“That role is to act as the head of the presidential administration at Aso Rock; to be an adviser to the President on any and all matters; to be the line manager for all staff at Aso Rock; and to manage appointments and scheduling for the President.
“In the traditional presidential system, it is a primary function of a Chief of Staff, which may vary according to the needs and desires of each President, to supervise key State House Staff, control access to the office and the person of the President, manage communications and information flow and this includes that which binds the relationship with the two other arms of government.
“During the President’s first term those were the responsibilities of the Chief of Staff, and they remain the same responsibilities today. There is no change.

“When President Buhari explained to ministers that they would be expected to communicate with him and arrange scheduling to meet with him primarily via the Chief of Staff, he did so as many of the Buhari II Cabinet ministerial appointments are new appointments and cannot therefore be expected to know how matters of liaising with the President operate.
“This is to stress that access to the President is open to ministers. It is not true that this is denied them in the Second Term.
“The Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) on the other hand is responsible for ensuring the effective coordination and monitoring of the implementation of government policies and programmes. All cabinet matters must go through him.
“Under this dispensation, a performance evaluation of ministers and Permanent Secretary will be maintained by the SGF. Two weeks after assuming office, they are expected to sign mandate acceptance documents.
“It is time to end the unnecessary controversy, for the key appointees of the President to carry out their jobs.”

Soyinka warns Buhari government over use of security agencies to silence Nigerians

Nobel Laureate, Professors Wole Soyinka, has warned the Federal Government and security agencies, to stop trying to silence Nigerians.
Soyinka stated this, while speaking in Badagry on Saturday, at the unveiling of an art gallery in commemoration of his 85th birthday.

The police, Nigerian Army and the Department of State Services (DSS) on Monday, sealed off the Lagos venue for a symposium where Soyinka, rights lawyer, Femi Falana, SAN, and others were to speak on the security issues in the country.
The programme tagged ‘Democracy, state repression and the state of insecurity in Nigeria’, was organised by Coalition for Revolution (CORE).
But, speaking on Saturday, Soyinka said, “It is important to send strong message to this government and to the security services to stop trying to muzzle people when they come together to exchange ideas.

“You’re reducing them as human beings and you’re also reducing yourselves as human beings, because it means you’re afraid to listen.”
Soyinka also cautioned Nigerians not to believe everything they read on social media.
He added, “Be very, very careful what you believe even when you read such materials in social media or sometimes in newspapers because in this country, we have a most fertile multiplier effect.

“When somebody hears something, he puts it on the Internet, it spreads and an industry begins as people start commenting on things which never existed.
“Sometimes on social media, you’ll even see trending quotes supposedly from me, with my name, my photograph, with statements which represents what those people want to say but lacked the courage to say it.”

Nigerian Soldiers Intercept ‘strange’ Military Equipment In Adamawa (photos)

According to Premium Times, Nigerian soldiers manning a checkpoint in Adamawa State have intercepted six mine resistance vehicles that seemed to have been transported into Nigeria without due process.

The military personnel, attached to the Nigerian Army 23 Armoured Brigade in Yola, seized the equipment in Fufore Local Government Area this week.

The Nigerian Army could not immediately verify the ownership of the equipment, where they were being shipped from and their destination, PREMIUM TIMES learnt from military sources.

Although the Nigerian Army headquarters has directed an urgent investigation into the discovery, the equipment have been handed over to the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) in the interim.

On Saturday, the commander of 23 Armoured Brigade, S.G. Mohammed, handed over the vehicles to the comptroller of Customs in charge of Adamawa and Taraba, Olumoh Kamaldeen, at a ceremony in Konkol, Fufore LGA, PREMIUM TIMES learnt.

It is not immediately clear whether suspects have been arrested. It is illegal to import such equipment without an end-user certificates from the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA), which is the only federal agency with powers to issue such document.

The development could further upset security agencies, who have continued to grapple with acute insecurity and violence across the country.

Security analysts regularly question how terrorists and other criminals acquire weapons they have used to keep the country under siege for many years, urging security and intelligence agencies to devote more time to understanding the complex web of illicit arms movement.

The latest seizure of six mine-resistance all terrain vehicles (MATV) came three months after a Nigerian politician, Ibikunle Amosun, handed over weapons he had illegally stockpiled for several years to the police.

Mr Amosun kept the weapons for several years at Government House, Abeokuta, until his last day in office when he realised he would no longer enjoy immunity from arrest and prosecution.

The police have failed to arrest the former governor, now a serving senator, despite the widespread uproar and concerns amongst Nigerians that prosecuting Mr Amosun could serve as deterrence to other politicians involved in proliferation of deadly arms across the country.

…as tribunal sacks Ondo lawmaker with Nigeria - UK citizenship

.....Judgment can ’ t stand, say SANs

.....Lawan not losing sleep –Associates
Gbajabiamila , others decline comments

Quote:Sunday Aborisade , Eniola Akinkuotu , Ade Adesomoju , Ramon Oladimeji and Tobi Aworinde

The Senate President , Dr Ahmad Lawan ; the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mr Femi Gbajabiamila , and several other lawmakers risk losing their seats following a recent ruling by an Ondo State Election Petitions Tribunal ,
Sunday PUNCH has learnt .

The tribunal on July 31 , 2019 , sacked Mr Ikengboju Gboluga, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party representing Okitipupa / Irele Federal Constituency of Ondo State for having dual citizenship and thereafter ordered that Mr Albert Akintoye of the All Progressives Congress be issued the Certificate of Return by the Independent National Electoral Commission .

The tribunal headed by Justice Nuhu Adi ruled that Gboluga was not eligible to contest the 2019 National Assembly election , having admitted in his INEC Form CF 001 that he had “ voluntarily acquired the citizenship of the United Kingdom” and had sworn allegiance to the country .

The judgment was based on Section 66 of the 1999 Constitution which states in part that, “ No person shall be qualified for election to the Senate or the House of Representatives if : ( a ) subject to the provisions of section 28 of this constitution , he has voluntarily acquired the citizenship of a country other than Nigeria or, except in such cases as may be prescribed by the National Assembly , has made a declaration of allegiance to such a country . ”

Investigations by Sunday PUNCH showed that of the 109 senators, four admitted in their INEC forms on oath that they had voluntarily acquired the citizenship of another country .

However, top sources told one of our correspondents that the figure could be much higher , adding that most of the lawmakers in this category either had the United States or UK citizenship , noting that the lawmakers were not born abroad but became citizens by naturalisation , that is , swearing the oath of allegiance to these countries .

They include Senate President Lawan , who represents Yobe North senatorial district ; Senators Opeyemi Bamidele of Ekiti-Central ; Teslim Folarin , representing Oyo Central ; and Ibrahim Bomai of Yobe South .
In his form CF 001 , Bamidele said he was a US citizen and had also sworn allegiance to the country .

Responding to a question on whether he had voluntarily acquired the citizenship of another country , Bamidele answered , “ Yes, the United States of America where I was granted political asylum .”

When asked if he had indeed sworn allegiance to the USA, he replied , “ Yes. I was granted political asylum by the USA. ”

In his own form , the Senate President admitted that he had never changed his nationality in the past but admitted that he had voluntarily acquired the citizenship of another country and had sworn allegiance to the same country .

Lawan , however , refused to disclose the country . It , therefore , remains unclear why INEC accepted the form from him since it had been stated that one must disclose the country .
Oyo -Central lawmaker, Folarin , admitted that he had voluntarily acquired the UK citizenship and had sworn an oath of allegiance to the country .

Senator Bomai of Yobe - South also admitted in his form that he had voluntarily acquired the citizenship of Antigua and Barbuda , an island nation in the West Indies in the Americas , lying between the Caribbean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean .

Bomai , however, said on oath that he never “ made a declaration of allegiance ” to the country .

In the case of the Speaker, Gbajabiamila , he also noted in his INEC form that he had acquired the citizenship of the US .

Sunday PUNCH learnt that in the oath of allegiance for all persons who voluntarily acquire US citizenship , a person must pledge 100 per cent loyalty to the country .

However, parts of the oath are modified for religious and mental reasons .

It said, “ I hereby declare , on oath, that I absolutely and entirely renounce and abjure all allegiance and fidelity to any foreign prince , potentate , state , or sovereignty , of whom or which I have heretofore been a subject or citizen ; that I will support and defend the Constitution and laws of the United States of America against all enemies , foreign and domestic ; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same ; that I will bear arms on behalf of the United States when required by the law ; that I will perform non- combatant service in the Armed Forces of the United States when required by the law ; that I will perform work of national importance under civilian direction when required by the law ; and that I take this obligation freely , without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; so help me God .”

In the case of the UK , the oath stated , “ I, ( Insert full name) , do swear that I will be faithful and bear true allegiance to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II , her heirs and successors , according to law . So help me God .”

Judgment can ’ t stand – SANs

Meanwhile, lawyers , especially senior advocates of Nigeria, have reacted to the judgment with some saying the judgment could not stand .
A Senior Advocate of Nigeria , Ahmed Raji , said the judgment sacking the legislator for holding dual citizenship of Nigeria and the UK would not stand .

He said, “ I don’ t know the facts of the case. But if I understand and still recollect the provisions of the constitution and some decided authorities of the higher courts , it would seem that that judgment cannot hold water .

“ I believe that an appeal to the Court of Appeal will put things in the proper shape . So, all I will say is that anyone who is aggrieved is encouraged to go on appeal. ”

Also reacting , a Lagos -based lawyer , Mr Wahab Shittu , said, “ The first thing to say is that our courts are not Father Christmas; they don’ t make an order unless someone asks for it . If there are members of the National Assembly who hold dual citizenship , we cannot condemn them because their cases have not been tested in court. No one has invoked the jurisdiction of the court to challenge them .

“ As for the Ondo lawmaker, who was sacked on the basis of dual citizenship , the question is : Is the decision of the tribunal consistent with constitutional provisions ? My answer is yes. The lawmaker cannot hold such office while he has allegiance to another country .

“ But we cannot on that basis generally condemn members of the National Assembly until the jurisdiction of the court is invoked .”
But a Senior Advocate of Nigeria , Chief Ifedayo Adedipe , said the tribunal ’s decision was wrong .

He said, “ The tribunal is clearly wrong ; the tribunal got it all mixed up . You cannot say because a man naturalises , he ceases to be a Nigerian. That decision may be correct if the man in question renounces his Nigerian citizenship upon naturalising . I don’ t want to go into details because the case is already on appeal. ”

Affected APC, PDP Reps react

Speaking with Sunday PUNCH on Friday , the APC candidate for the Okitipupa / Irele House of Representatives poll , Albert Akintoye, said INEC had given him the certificate of return.

Akintoye, however, noted that Gboluga had approached the Court of Appeal in Akure to overule the tribunal .

He stated there was nothing wrong with a Nigerian holding dual citizenship but argued that the moment a Nigerian swears an oath of allegiance to another country , he ought not to hold any public office.

The lawmaker said Section 66 of the constitution had stated categorically that swearing an oath of allegiance to another country disqualifies one from holding a legislative office.

He said he was aware that many lawmakers also had dual citizenship but said not all of them would have sworn an oath of allegiance
Akintoye said doing so was grounds for disqualification, hence the decision of INEC to put such questions in its forms .

He said, “ There are many people that hold dual citizenship . It is allowed and if there are many of them in the House , nobody has put it in writing .
“ There is a form that you fill : have you taken an oath of allegiance in another country ? What most people fill is ‘ no ’ but in the column , he ( Gboluga ) put yes.

“ They also ask you : what country ? He said ‘ the United Kingdom’ and the document is with me ; I took it to court . If it is in Nigeria that you hold dual citizenship , good . But let any Nigerian that wants to contest confess that he has taken an oath of allegiance in Nigeria ; they will disqualify him. ”

The lawmaker said he would not be intimidated by the fact that Gboluga had hired legal juggernauts like a former President of the Nigerian Bar Association , Wole Olanipekun ( SAN ) , and other senior lawyers .
He said he was hopeful that the Appellate court would not be intimidated and do the right thing.

When contacted, Gboluga said the matter had already come up for hearing at the Appellate court and judgement would be delivered soon.
He , however , refused to comment further , saying , “ I don ’t know you personally and I don ’t feel comfortable talking to you .”

Senate President not losing sleep over dual citizenship — Associates
… Gbajabiamila , other decline comments

An associate of the President of the Senate said Lawan was not scared of losing his seat over his dual citizenship status .
He also said nobody had taken him to court over the issue .

The associate , who spoke with one of our correspondents on condition of anonymity, said the Senate President had never feared a possible litigation over the issue .

The source said, “ We are not involved in any case that has to do with dual citizenship . Anyone planning such against us now will fail.
“ The President of the Senate is a Nigerian. He has always been a citizen of this country . So, I don ’t know why anybody will come now and prove otherwise. ”

Meanwhile, another associate of Lawan said, “ Who told you that the Senate President has a dual citizenship status and that he actually filled in that information in his records with the INEC?
“ I have no idea of the Senate President filling in dual citizenship in his forms at the INEC. Our constitution is very clear on the issue of dual citizenship . INEC didn’ t make it an issue .

“ I am sure no tribunal would have asked any Nigerian with another country ’ s passport not to contest an election . I am familiar with the Electoral Act and the constitution . At the time we are trying to enjoin more Nigerians resident abroad to come home and be part of nation -building , do you think INEC would be discouraging Nigerians with dual citizenship from participating in the electoral process?

“ I am sure the Ondo State tribunal verdict was not delivered purely on the issue of dual citizenship . It could form part of the verdict but it would definitely not be the major consideration for annulling the lawmaker’ s election . ”

Attempts to speak directly with Lawan , through his official spokesperson , Mr Ola Awoniyi , were not successful. Phone calls and messages sent to him via WhatsApp had yet to be responded to as of the time of filing this report despite indications that he read them .

Gbajabiamila , who was said to have remained in Saudi Arabia where he went on Hajj , also declined to speak on his citizenship status .

When contacted through his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity , Mr Lanre Lasisi , he simply said, “ We have no comment .”

The Chairman of the Senate Committee on Judiciary, Human Rights and Legal Matters , Bamidele , did not also respond to enquiries sent to him on the issue .

Similarly , senators Folarin and Bomai , did not respond to questions put across to them on the issue .

Neither of them responded to the calls and text messages sent to their mobile phones as of the time of filing this report .

South African government seizes a plane belonging to Air Tanzania in Johannesburg

South African authorities have seized a plane from Tanzania's national carrier. The Airbus 220-300 was due to fly from Johannesburg, South Africa, on Friday to Dar es Salaam in Tanzania but it was impounded.

It was not immediately clear why the action was taken, and South African authorities have not commented, media reports however said the aircraft was impounded because Tanzania's government had not paid the $33m (£28.8m) it owes in compensation.

Lawyer Roger Wakefield told the BBC that the money was awarded after Tanzania's government seized lands belonging to South African farmers. A Tanzanian government spokesperson however said that the country's lawyers had arrived in South Africa to investigate.

This is also not the first time Air Tanzania has had a plane seized. In 2017, Canadian construction firm Stirling Civil Engineering seized the airline's new Bombardier Q400 plane in Canada over a $38m lawsuit. The Q400 was released in March 2018 after Tanzania's prime minister and attorney general negotiated its release.

Gunmen in army uniforms kidnap five people in Kaduna State

The Police in Kaduna State have confirmed the kidnap of five persons by armed men on Friday at Danbushiya Village, at the outskirt of Kaduna metropolis.

The Command Public Relations Officer, DSP Yakubu Sabo, confirmed this in a statement saying, 'on August 23rd at about 2300hrs, DPO Malali reported that he received a distress call that armed men in military uniform blocked access road to Baba Tunde Fashola Housing Estate, Danbushiya Village, at the outskirt of Kaduna and intercepted a Honda Accord Reg. No. LND 753 AL and five other vehicles and kidnapped seven persons.'

According to him, patrol teams within the metropolis led by the DPO were quickly mobilised to the scene of the incident but the hoodlums had already escaped with the victims.

Quote:“However, due to pressurised patrols within the general area, two of the victims were later found being released by the hoodlums. The two released victims alongside the vehicles were recovered to the Police station,” the spokesman said.
He also disclosed that “upon search, the sum of $10,000 US Dollars and N647,300 were recovered in one of the vehicles”. He also explained that combined teams of police Anti-kidnapping Unit and Vigilantes were later dispatched to the scene for search operation with a view to arrest the perpetrators and rescue the remaining five victims.  “The IGP’S IRT were also contacted for Technical Support in tracking the hoodlums,” he added.

Sabo said the Commissioner of Police in the state, Ali Janga, has assured that the incident would not deter the command from its collective determination in the recent war against criminals.  He therefore called for continued support by all well meaning citizens of the state.

RHAPSODY OF REALITIES

SUNDAY, 25TH AUGUST

HE’S ALWAYS TALKING

Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me (Revelations 3:20).

Sometimes, perhaps in a fellowship meeting, there’re those who, in anticipation for a word of prophecy, a vision or the demonstration of the gift of the Spirit, become bemused when they don’t experience such.

However, reading 1 Corinthians 14:32 (NLT) gives an idea as to what the issue could be sometimes. It says, “Remember that people who prophesy are in control of their spirit and can wait their turn.” If you or someone had a word of prophecy and wouldn’t give it, God’s got nothing to do with that; He’s not to blame.

Often, people think, “If God gives me a word of prophecy, He’d by default take over my vocal faculties and let it out!” That’s not how it works; you have a role. That you have a word of prophecy to exhort, edify, and comfort others doesn’t negate your own will to either speak or choose not to speak.

We always have to be bold and smart spiritually to pick God’s signals and declare the same as He gives us utterance. He’s always talking, but you must train your spirit to become sensitive to Him and always attuned to His frequency. That way, as He’s talking, your spirit can easily pick up the signals from Him, with the will to utter the same in prophecy.

It’s not enough to know how to hear Him with your heart, you must also learn to speak forth those words. So, don’t keep quiet or suppress it when you have words of prophecy bubbling inside you. If it’s in a general meeting, wait for the appropriate time and indicate that you have a word, or, when the call is made for anyone who has a word, be bold to indicate that you do. You may be asked to write it. However, abide by the guidance of the leaders of the congregation.

Always remember that when you commune with the Lord, He’s sure to minister back to you words that are consistent with the Scriptures, but you’ll have to bring forth those words He put in your heart, by faith (See Romans 12).

CONFESSION

Precious Father, I’m sensitive to receive your divine counsel and be attuned to your guidance over my life and those you’ve placed in my care. I’m bold to speak forth your Word, and have the body of Christ edified, exhorted and comforted to the glory and praise of your Name. Hallelujah!

#TALKINGSESSION

25TH AUGUST.

KINDLY SAY THESE WORDS OUT LOUD

Dear Heavenly Father, I thank You for giving me rest on everyside. I thank You for the guidance of Your Spirit in my life, and the wisdom that You impart to me each day. I am continually yielded to the Lordship of Your Word. My steps are ordered in victory, success, and excellence. I walk by faith, and not by sensory perception! I live from my spirit,
thus, the circumstances of life are subdued before me.

I live on Your terms; I reason with the mind of Christ, and my outlook on life is from the perspective of Your Word. I am living in power and working miracles as I live in, and through the power of the Holy Spirit and the Word today, in Jesus’ Name. Amen

God bless you

Wadume: APC Gave Me N13m For 2019 Election
User Avatar Forum: General Discussion

Quote:•I’m a political thug, not a kidnapper
•I made N6m from a sitting governor
•How I escaped from soldiers who wanted to kill me
•Slain policemen identified themselves before soldiers killed them
•Wadume’s uncle, brother, cousin reveal their roles

Suspected kidnap kingpin, Alhaji Hamisu Balla, a.k.a Wadume, who has been in the middle of the raging storm between the Nigerian Army and the Nigeria Police over the murder of three police operatives and two civilians by soldiers in Ibi town, Taraba state has finally opened up and made startling revelations.

In an exclusive interview with Saturday Vanguard, Wadume gave a blow by blow account of his encounter with both the police and his Army Captain friend in charge of the 93 Battalion, Wukari who aided his escape after his initial arrest by the police.

Wadume who expressed shock at the manner the soldiers opened fire on the Police Toyota Hiace Bus that was conveying him to the Taraba Police Command Headquarters in Jalingo said while he also sustained bullet wounds on his right thigh after the shootings, he never asked the army captain to rescue him from the policemen who arrested him.

He also explained that as at the time he crawled out of the bullet ridden bus, which somersaulted three times before landing into the bush, the policemen were still alive but he was surprised to see the soldiers who had pursued them to the check-point raining bullets on the policemen before he was whisked in a red colored car, to the home of the army captain. He added that after his leg chain and handcuffs were cut off by a welder invited by the army captain, he was greeted by a large crowd of residents of Ibi who were standing beside the corpses of the deceased policemen who were all brought to the home of the army captain.

With the sum of N550,000 in his pocket after he was rescued, Wadume said he fled Ibi Town and was hiding in the house of one of his friends, Meito, at Ungwachiki town but 24 hours, later some soldiers trailed him to his friend’s house and wanted to kill him. He therefore jumped out of the window and fled to the river bank, boarded a speed boat into Tunga area of Nassarawa State, where he spent a night before moving to the home of his maternal uncle in Kano State.

My Backgound

My name is Hamisu Balla, alias Wadume, 33 years old and I am from Ibi Local Government Area of Taraba State. I am married to four wives and I have four children. I attended Bula Primary school Ibi, but I dropped out from Government Secondary School Ibi at JSS 3. After I dropped out school, I started fishing business at the River Benue that flowed through Ibi Town. This was in 1996 and I did fishing for six years, but in the year 2002, I went into fishpond business. I used to buy fingerlings for N30 per one, nurture them for five months before selling them for N600 and N700. I started small with just two small ponds but I went on to get five more big ponds with 50 by 50 in size and five feet deep.

“I am not a kidnapper, but I have sold arms to several kidnappers. I am a fisher farmer, I own fish ponds, I own a transport business. I am equally a political thug. I went into crime when some politicians came for me, they approached me through one Babangida Musa, who was also into fishing business.

I got N6m from a sitting governor, N13m from APC, defrauded civil servant of N30m,

In June 2018, I deceived a lot of politicians who were vying for political offices that I had spiritual powers to enable them win their elections. I defrauded the governor when he came to Ibi and met the youths in my town. As the leader of the youths, the Governor met me and I promised to work for him and to also consult some Mallams who would pray for his success. The Governor gave me N2million at first and we exchanged telephone numbers. But one week before the election, the governor called me and asked me to come to the Government house and when I got there the governor gave me N4million cash to continue with the prayers. Immediately after the election, the governor called to thank me.

I was also given N13million by the APC to prosecute the 2019 presidential election but I spent only seven million. I also defrauded a civil servant from Ibi of N30million.

I contested the Taraba state house of Assembly under the YDP Ibi Local Government but I pulled out of the election and took my supporters to the PDP.

My initial arrest by the police

I volunteered to follow the policemen when they came to arrest me at Ibi Town while I was drinking tea with some of my friends. They showed me their identity cards indicating that they were from the office of the Inspector General of Police and I volunteered to follow them, because I knew I could settle any problem I’m confronted with. The policemen handcuffed me and leg-chained me while I was inside their vehicle and the Army Captain wasn’t even there when the policemen came to arrest me and I don’t even know who informed him that I had been arrested.

Slain policemen identified themselves

While I was being taken out of Ibi, Town, the policemen passed the first check point which was being maned by some soldiers after they had identified themselves. They also passed the second check point which was maned by some Mobile Policemen. But when they got to the third one where we were attacked, four of the policemen alighted from their bus and they identified themselves to the policemen and exchanged banters. I was shocked when the soldiers came after us and rained bullets on our bus, killing those policemen. I was almost killed in the encounter. I was then taken to the army captain’s house. When I saw the corpses of the policemen and their agents in front of the Captain’s house I became very disturbed and I pretended as if I wanted to urinate and I escaped from the scene.

How I escaped from soldiers who wanted to kill me

I called one Audu who is one of my boys who took me on his bike to Ungwachiki Town in Ibi Local Government and I passed the night in the house of Meito, my friend. But while I was there some soldiers came to Meito’s house and started looking for me and they were armed with guns and machetes and axes, I believed they wanted to kill me.

I don’t know how they got information that I was in that house but I managed to escape through the window and fled to the river bank around 8pm where I boarded a speed boat to Tunga village in Nassarawa State. I spent a night in Nassarawa state before I boarded another commercial bus to Kano State. People couldn’t recognize me because of the Sallah holiday. I had N500,000 with me as I was running from the police and I took the money to my uncle’s house where I went to hide in Kano.

While I was hiding, I instructed one of my bothers in Ibi to go to my house and take away all my rifles. My cousin also brought an idea that I needed some favorable stories to be written about me, so he engaged a PR company who were to link up with journalists to write the stories. I paid N3million for that.

Confession of Wadume’s cousin

I’m Kawu Moahmmed Kasuwa, 30 years old from Ibi Taraba State, I am a civil servant and I work with Ibi Local Government. I am an executive officer at the Admin Department. Wadume is my uncle, he is a younger brother to my mother. I was arrested in Zaria, because I made efforts to get journalists to write a favorable story in support of my uncle Wadume who was being hunted by the police. It wasn’t my idea, but one of my uncles who was residing in Lagos State, Ismalia Jita who called me and said that he wasn’t happy with the bad press my Uncle, Wadume was getting since the incident occurred.

He wanted me to raise some money to give to the reporters so they could come down to Ibi and speak with the natives and get a good story about the incident which will be favorable to Wadume. I asked for N3m and they sent me their company’s account number and I gave it to my brother, Awal who knew how the money was paid to the media out fit. I was arrested in Zaria while the police were looking for my uncle, Wadume. But I took them to my other uncle Awal in Abuja who I thought could help in their search for Wadume.

I’ve always been suspicious of Wadume—Elder brother

My name is Auwal Balla, I’m 38 years old, married with four children, I am commercial motorcycle rider at Alaba Rago Market in Lagos. I am known as Auwal Wawa. Wadume is my younger brother and we were born of the same father and mother. I knew my brother to be a fish farmer, a transporter, political thug and a kidnapper. I never knew that my brother was into kidnapping until the police came looking for him after my brother was rescued from the IRT operatives who were killed by the soldiers he called. When Wadume called and asked me to help him hide all his rifles in his house, I asked him what he was doing with all those rifles and he said he was using them for politics.

Then I called one Uban Delu, my step brother and asked him to go to where Wadume kept his rifles and take them away and hide them in a different place. I came to Abuja because some people suggested that we should get the House of Representatives member representing our area to assist us in this matter and the people who were to lead me to the Honorable member asked me to come to Abuja.

While I was in Abuja, one of my nephews, Kawul called and suggested that we should get some media men to write favorable stories for him that will change people’s perception about him. I sold the idea to my younger brother and he bought it. I then asked Kawu to send me the account number of the company which I forwarded to Wadume and he credited the company with that money.

I was in Abuja when the police came and arrested me and I confessed that I have been in constant communication with my brother since he was rescued from the police and I also knew that he was in my uncle’s house in Kano. I have always been suspicious of my brother because he was spending too much money and since his business was such that couldn’t yield big money but he always told me to relax, that he was a political thug and was making big money from politicians, it was when he was arrested and rescued that I knew that my brother must have been into kidnapping.

Why I harboured Wadume in my house—Uncle

I’m Rayyanu Abdul, 46, from Kano State. I am married to a wife and I have six children. I am a civil servant and I work with Kano State Senior Secondary School Management Board, Kano. I am Wadume’s uncle, his mother is my elder sister. Wadume told me that he was into fish farming, car sales and cattle rearing but I didn’t know that my nephew was into kidnapping or any other crime.

Nigeria To Extend Electricity Line To Senegal, Ghana, Others
User Avatar Forum: Other Stories
Posted by: Edoman - 08-24-2019, 05:31 PM - No Replies

Electricity: The Federal Government, Wednesday, disclosed that it was building power transmission line to link up some countries in the West African sub-region.

Speaking in Abuja at the 2019 participants/key stakeholders interactive forum organised by the Market Operator, the Managing Director of Transmission Company of Nigeria, TCN, Mr. Mohammed Gur Usman, stated that the project will take a 330KV electricity transmission line right from Nigeria up to Senegal.

He said, “In the whole of West Africa we are the only one that has the experience of 330KV but now 330 KV will run from Nigeria unto Senegal.

“Let me be precise, we are going to have a 330KV that will run from Shiroro to, to Parakou, Parakou to Northern Togo, Northern Ghana to Cote deviore.

“Another one will come from Northern Ghana to Senegal to Guinea-Bissau, to Mali to Burkina Faso and it will join Ghana. This is the study that we have launched.”

To this ends, Usman charged the major stakeholders in the Nigerian Electricity Supply Industry, NESI, especially, the Market Operator, MO, to be ready to assume the task of regional player in the sector.

He said, “As the Chairman of West Africa Pool, WAP, I made the WAP to draft, the directives which was approved on the 22nd of May and 22nd of December, 2018.

“That is the written of ECOWAS Head of State and Government of 22nf of December 2018. They approved that three directives and what are those directives that we forwarded to ECOWAS for approval are:

“First, All utilities in West Africa must have their revenue requirement. The second directive is that countries that elect not to give the requirement, they should budget for it in a transparent manner.

“This means that if the utilities do not have their course reflective tariff then the countries should budget for it in a transparent manner that is they should provide for it in their national budget.

“We did not stop there, we said that all utilities in west Africa should conduct themselves in such a way that they should do their procurement in a transparent manner- meaning they should adapt competitive procurement of their services and their goods because if we have the budget and we have the money and we apply it in an inefficient manner, it means that cost of energy will soon go up.

“In reality, if it is truly a market is driven by rules and regulation and people have to comply with the rules and there has to be sanction for performance and there has to be a reward of non-performance and a reward for extraordinary performance.

“If a market is existing in such a way that everybody does not performance and can get away with it, there is no way that that market can grow or perform.”

According to him, “TCN may probably cease to exist very soon and then you will have TSP and ISO, ISO will be the one that will be operating the market operator under ISO and everything that I have to do for that transition to take place, I have been doing it daily. Every day I have been doing those things that would lead to those organizations to separate.

“Because we have not applied the market position in our market tenders, in solar, you cannot say that Nigeria has comparative advantage but, in terms of normal generation that would be done by gas and hydro.

“Nigeria still has comparative advantage across West Africa. Which means there is a demand for electricity from here to the rest of West Africa? What we are doing is to enable that happen. To enable that happen, we are going to build a transition line across West Africa so that we can export energy from here to the rest of Africa.

“I am happy to tell you that the design consultancy and the environmental study for the medium backbone were launched

Passing off a comment in reaction to the video, Afrocandy said the billionaires could add a little more to the $13 billion to fix the power problem in the country. According to the porn star, there won’t be any need of spending the large amount on buying generators which pollutes the the air if the power problem is fixed.

She wrote;

Quote:"This is wonderful but I think if you Sir and dangote join hands and maybe add a little more to that $13 billion dollars y’all can fix the power (light) problem I. Nigeria and there won’t be the need to spend such an Astronomical amount on buying generations which pollutes the the Air. It’s time wealthy people like you did something."

Househelp arrested for stealing employer's N1.6m six hours after resumption

26-year-old Franca Amaha, pictured above, has been arrested by men of the Lagos state police command, for stealing N1.6million cash in foreign currencies belonging to her boss just six hours after resuming as a househelp in her house situated in Surulere.

According to the police, Amaha who is from Cross Rivers State had approached an employment agent for a domestic job on July 24, 2019 using a fake name, address and guarantor. Shortly after, she was assigned to one Mrs Taiye at Masha area of Surulere, Lagos.
Few hours after her resumption, she accompanied her boss to the Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Ikeja, to pick her boss' sister who had returned to Nigeria from abroad. Amaha ransacked her boss' sister's luggage kept in the guest house and carted away with  $2800, £1000 and 2000 Dutch Guilder.

When interrogated, she said she stole the money so she can use it to treat her sick mother. She said she went to make her hair and bought herself new slippers immediately she stole the money. She reportedly switched off her phone so that she could not be reached.

Her boss immediately lodged a report at the nearest police station in Surulere and she was traced to the residence of one of her friends at Ajah.

Amaha who came to Lagos in 2014, said she had first worked as a maid for another woman  who paid her N20000 per month and enrolled her for a diploma programme at the Isolo campus of the  Lagos State Polytechnic in Isolo.

Quote:“After staying with her for two and  half years, she started complaining that I was returning late  from school and that I was no longer  performing my home chores. I left when her complaints became unbearable for me.
“When I left her house, I went into the street and started doing prostitution. When my brothers heard that I was into prostitution, they asked me to come back home. I went back to our village. From there, I  went to Onitsha, Anambra State, where I spent some time with my brothers.  When I came back to Lagos I worked as a house help with a woman in Ikorodu for three months and went back to the village and started farming.
“I came back to Lagos again to look for job in order to raise money. I approached one Mr Frank who is a job agent and he led me to one Mr. Ade who linked me up with the woman in Surulere whom I started working for. However, before I started working for the woman she told me about herself and gave me advice on how to work for her and she said that my salary would be paid through my agent.
“But I gave her a  fake name and address because I had the intention of stealing her money or anything of value which I could  easily sell. So,  when I   got to the woman’s house around noon, we went to the airport around 3:30pm to pick her sister and we parked all the woman’s luggage into the house. I later opened the bag and took six pieces of $100, five pieces of  £20 , five pieces of $20totalling $700 and  £100 pounds. I changed $100 and made my hair with it and bought a new pair of slippers.
‘’I changed the remaining money and deposited it into my account.  I stole her money because I got a call from my village that my mother was sick.  Please help me to beg her to forgive me. I will not do it again.”

Smart Adeyemi Is ‘My Political Wife’ – Dino Melaye mocks APC's candidate after being sacked

Dino Melaye has described the All Progressives Congress (APC) Smart Adeyemi as his 'political wife', in reaction to his sack as senator representing Kogi West Senatorial district in the red chamber.

Recall LIB reported that a Dino Melaye was sacked as the senator representing the Kogi West Senatorial district by a three-man panel of the Tribunal led by Justice Anthony Chijioke. The tribunal also ordered a fresh election.

Noting that there were two rulings from the Tribunal while being featured as a guest on Channels Television, Dino who contested the election on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) stated that the minority judgement was delivered by the chairman of the panel and he described it as “exclusive and wonderful”.

He however faulted the judgement of the two other members of the Tribunal who ruled against him. The Kogi-born lawmaker added that the tribunal's ruling was aimed at distracting him from his governorship ambition.

Quote:“I want to assure you that Smart Adeyemi is my political wife; I defeated him in 2015, I defeated him in 2019 and any day any time, he is my political wife,” the embattled lawmaker insisted.
“I want to say that I cannot be distracted and I will not be distracted. My name is Daniel; I will not fall … I am focused on my governorship ambition and we will get it.
“The only time there will be election for the seat of the Senate in Kogi West is after I am sworn in as the governor of Kogi State.
“That will necessitate vacancy but before then, there will be no by-election as a result of attempted robbery that is going on right now.”
“Spiritually we are already in the court of appeal; physically we will be there on Monday. The only election that will be conducted is the governorship election that I will win. My mandate is secured, my mandate is guaranteed,” he added.

You will end up in shame - Sacked Ogun APC chairman curses Adams Oshiomhole

Chief Derin Adebiyi, the sacked chairman of Ogun state All Progressives Congress has laid a curse on the national chairman of the party, Adams Oshiomhole.

In an interview with newsmen in Abeokuta on Friday, August 23rd, a angry Adebiyi, whose officials have just been pushed out of the secretariat by the caretaker committee, transferred his aggression on Oshiomhole saying;

Quote:“Oshiomhole is backing this illegal caretaker committee; he has caused serious damages to the party at the national level. Mark my word, Oshiomhole will leave his position with ignominy (shame)".

Derin accused Oshiomhole of backing the “illegal caretaker committee” in Ogun and also causing crisis in the party as a whole. Adebiyi said the takeover of the secretariat by the Yemi Sanusi-led caretaker committee was “a forceful invasion and illegal occupation by loyalists of Gov. Dapo Abiodun”.

He accused the committee members of storming the party secretariat in a “warlike manner”, accompanied by fierce looking security operatives.
Quote:“It is a forceful invasion by the loyalists of Ogun governor. They illegally occupied our secretariat. They stormed the offices, drove away our staff and locked the place up. The action is condemnable,” Adebiyi said.

He explained that the matter of the dissolution of his exco was currently before an Abuja High Court, wondering why the caretaker committee could not wait for the outcome of the case. Adebiyi, who insisted that his exco was a product of a state congress held on May 2018, declared he and his members would explore all legal means to reclaim the party secretariat.
Quote:“We are products of the Congress on May 19, 2018. We are not engaging them like touts, the next court hearing is in October. They should have waited. We paid the rent of the secretariat.
The caretaker committee has been conducting their businesses in Osoba’s house. We are no novice, we have refused to take laws into our hand,. but we will explore all legal means to reclaim the party secretariat,” Adebiyi declared.

Just like Ekweremadu, we will disgrace Buhari in Japan- Nnamdi Kanu

Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the proscribed Indigenious People of Biafra IPOB, says members of the group in the Republic of Japan have received orders from him to ''disgrace and arrest'' President Buhari when he arrives the Asian country on Sunday August 25th.

In a statement released on Friday August 23rd, Kanu said President Buhari must be arrested and handed over to Japanese authorities to enable him to answer for his alleged mass murder and crimes against humanity, which he allegedly committed against IPOB members in Nigeria between 2015 and 2019.

He urged IPOB members in the country to mobilise and ensure that they arrest President Buhari, stressing that the group is ready for the legal aftermath of the action.

The Presidency on Friday announced that President Buhari will leave Nigeria for Japan on Sunday August 25th to participate in the Seventh Tokyo International Conference on African Development, holding in the City of Yokohama from August 28th-30th.

Recall that last Saturday, members of the secessionist group attacked former Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, at the New Yam Festival in Germany.
