RHAPSODY OF REALITIES

SUNDAY, 1ST SEPTEMBER.

WE EXTEND HIS DAYS.

It has pleased the Lord to break through the pain...after having delivered his life as a sacrifice for sin, he shall see a posterity and prolong his days, and the work of the Lord shall prosper in his hand (Isaiah 53:10).

Think back to what we just read: it pleased the Lord to break through the suffering; after having delivered his life as a sacrifice for sin; he shall see a seed that shall prolong its days, its influence and establish its principles to always. This answers the question posed by the prophet in Isaiah 53:8: "among those of his generation, who considered...?"

We're his seed, prolonging His days. The work of the Lord prospers in our hands. We, the Church, are those who declare who He really is and his plan of salvation for all humanity. We testify of his deity and continue all the beautiful things he has begun, both to do and teach (Acts 1:1). His miraculous deeds and teachings about the Kingdom of God, which he pursued through the apostles. In turn, they passed on the same teachings to others, and, finally, they were transmitted to us. And we continue until he comes again.

In John 20:21, he said: "...as my Father has sent me, even so send I you. "We are His ambassadors. We are His witnesses. We are the radiance of His glory, the distributor of His love, of His justice and of His grace. Hallelujah!

PRAYER

Dear heavenly Father, I am so grateful for the love and the grace that you have given me. Thank you for express yourself to the world through me. I am the radiance of your glory, the express image of your person and my life is a manifestation of the praise and glory of God, in the name of Jesus, Amen.*

Posted by: Edoman - 08-31-2019, 08:16 PM - No Replies

Three members of a notorious robbery gang, who are all ex convicts, have been arrested by the police in Lagos.

The suspects: Ayomide Babatunde, 30; Tunde Shabi, 37, and Femi Adeolu, 27, were specialists in holding their victims hostage for days till all the money in their accounts have been transferred.

The gang leader, Babatunde, confessed to have successfully snatched not less than 20 cars between March and April, 2019. On the incident that led to his arrest, he said that they were on patrol looking out for who to rob when they noticed a Lexus Jeep at Ilupeju Estate. .
.
“When we finally got him, I took his phone and discovered that he has good money in one of the accounts. We forced him to transfer money to the account number of our godfather, Segun, who operates from inside the Abeokuta prison.

First, he transferred N1million and we detained him till it was 12 am the next day and he transferred another N1million. Everyone in the area where I live assume that I am an estate agent because I have an office in Alagbado. .

Any time that I am going for an operation, I will tell my wife that I am travelling to Cotonou to buy rice for my customers. To further confuse her, I will come home the next day with a bag of rice and keg of oil.

If you were attacked by four boys with a pistol and lost your car around areas close to Sango Ota between March and April, we were the ones. I am sorry. I always wanted to be a pastor.

I did not save a dime because of my lifestyle; I slept in hotel with women almost on a daily basis. I sold the Toyota Highlander SUV for N600k, Formatic Benz-N900k; Toyota Camry car , N300k; Toyota Camry( big daddy) car N500k; Lexus SUV 350; N600k; Toyota Muzzle N600k; Toyota Corolla N400k,“ he said.

How Fraudsters’ Fight Over Woman Led To Collapse Of Crime Syndicate (pic)
User Avatar Forum: Other Stories

Quote:[Image: Suspects.png]

A fraud syndicate, which has been in operation for years, finally crumpled like a pack of cards after two of its members started fighting over a lady called ‘Precious.’ The division in the syndicate, which had offices in different states and communities, led operatives of the Inspector- General of Police Special Intelligence Team (IRT), to smash the gang. The smashing of the gang followed a series of letters to the IGP, Mohammed Adamu, in Abuja, from some victims, detailing how they were defrauded.

The IGP instructed IRT operatives, led by a Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Abba Kyari, to lead the investigation. At least, 11 members of the syndicate are currently in police custody. The suspects include a 28-year-old woman, Peace Eje.

Others are Frank Pius, Nduka Innocent, Okechukwu John, Nicholas Nwosu, Chikezie Uwandu, Amos Eze, Ikechukwu John, Michael Ali, Usman Ladan and Lawrence Adams. One of the members, Ladan, 60, said that trouble started after the overall leader, Adams, made moves to snatch his lover, Precious, from him. He believed that the split in the gang was the genesis of their waterloo. He said: “It was Mr. Lawrence that led the police to arrest me because we had a fight over Precious, who is my girlfriend.

As chairman, I coordinated all operations and I have all the materials that were used for operations.” According to the police, the syndicate specialised in defrauding unsuspecting residents of Kaduna State and the Federal Capital Territory, (FCT), Abuja, of their money. The suspects were all arrested in Kabala area of Kaduna State and Jabi area of Abuja. A police source said: “The syndicate operated, using cabs. When they have a target in their cab, they start a conversation about a bag filled with foreign currencies in the boot of the car.

The cab driver will accuse the supposed owner of the bag of trying to get him and other passengers into trouble by not informing him about the content in the bag. “The (supposed) owner of the bag will confess that the money was stolen from a very powerful Alhaji. The owner will claim to be looking for a spiritualist, to help take away the charm or juju on the money. The owner will offer to share the money with everyone in the vehicle that can help in getting a powerful medicine man or woman to cleanse the money.

“If the victim is a greedy person, he will show interest in the story and from that point, he’ll be taken to a fake native doctor. At the native doctor’s place, the victim will be asked to take an oath that he will not reveal the secret and event to anyone or he would die.

From that point, the victim will be swindled.” The alleged leader of the syndicate, Adams, 45, said that he joined the syndicate and rose to become its leader. He explained that he provided details on how the syndicate carried out operations.

Adams, married to two wives, blessed with nine children, said: “I reside in Abuja metropolis, but I was formerly into tomatoes business. I would buy from Zaria and supply to different parts of the country. I fell into the hands of fraudsters and lost N850, 000. I later joined another syndicate in 2007. Members of the syndicate taught me how to do the job.”

Explaining the syndicate’s modus operandi, Adams said: “I usually sit at the front seat of the car, while other members seat at the back with the victim. When we get to a point, a member at the back will tell the driver that he wants to stop to carry his bag in the boot.

The driver will tell him that he saw that the bag or carton contained money. The owner will tell the driver that the carton or bag contained $1million and that he was trying to take the money to his sister to help him remove the charm. “The driver will start shouting that he’ll take the money to the police.
My role is to beg the driver not to call the police. I would suggest that we help the owner of the money, on the promise that we’ll share out of it.

The driver will accept our pleadings. We’ll then ask our victim, if he knows any herbalist that can remove the charm. “If he says no, I’ll mention that I have an herbalist. We’ll go there and the herbalist, who is part of us, will ask each of us to pay N80,000 for cleansing of the money. After we have achieved that, the herbalist will ask us to bring 500, 000 dollars each and then we would ask him to change the money in the bag to naira. I have lost count of the number of people I have defrauded.

We have offices in Jabi and Zango, close to Turkish hospital and at old Karimo.” Ladan on his part explained that he coordinated the Kaduna State arm of the syndicate. He said: “I was formerly a trader. I became a fraudster in 2008 after I was defrauded. My office is in Kaduna. It was formerly owned by Yusuf, who had died. I took over as the chairman. I have four boys working for me. Alex was our driver, but he had died. He was the person that used to hunt for victims. “We scout for victims along Nnamdi Azikiwe Road. Our shrine is located at Kabala area of Kaduna State.

I have lost count of the number of people I had swindled.” Amos Eze, 38, a fake native doctor of the syndicate, said: “I’m one of the group’s native doctors. When they bring a victim to my shrine, I pretend I don’t know members of our syndicate.

They’ll ask for mama, I tell them that mama was dead. I will tell them that I’m in charge of mama’s shrine.” Eze continued: “I’ll ask what brought them to my shrine, they’ll claim they have family problems and needed solutions. I will consult my oracle and tell them that they were all liars and that they all met 30 minutes ago.

I will tell them that one of them was a thief, but not a good one. I will tell them that I saw money and charms. They’ll start begging me to remove the charms for them. “I’ll ask them to go and buy an Akpobiki skin, a blind man’s walking stick with oil and water in it, and Sarri water. These are things I know they couldn’t get by themselves.

They’ll ask me to get them. I’ll ask each of them to pay N30,000, so that I can get the items to prepare the cleansing of the money.

“When the victim pays his own share of the money, I make them take an oath not to allow anyone outside their circle to know what was going on and from there, I’ll ask him to pray for long life and prosperity so that the money will not harm him.

I’ll tell the victim that the charm to cleanse the money, was prepared by seven Islamic clerics. That it was prepared around 12 midnight. And from that point, I then start extorting money from the victim.”

South-East govs ban herdsmen, cattle movement

Governos of South-East geopolitical zone have banned movement of herdsmen and cattle from one community to the other within the zone. This decision comes weeks after a Reverend father was murdered by suspected herdsmen in Enugu state.

The Governors took this decision during their meeting with enlarged stakeholders which included the Minister for Aviation, the Army, Police, the clergy, Igbo leaders, federal ministry of works, among others today August 31st

In a communiqué delivered by Chairman of the Governors Forum and Governor of Ebonyi state, Dave Umahi, the stakeholders said they deliberated on two major topics, insecurity and the matters arising from the closure of the Enugu airport.

Governor Umahi said henceforth, herdsmen are banned in the region from walking around with AK47 and cutlasses.

Quote:“South-East governors have banned herdsmen who move about with AK 47 guns and cutlasses and we want our security agencies to implement same. South-East governors never invited the army nor were the South East Governors informed of any of their operations on Python Dance until the operations were already started in the states, Umahi said.

He also disclosed that they would write to President Mohammadu Buhari to request for a meeting with him and all the security Chiefs on issues of security to douse tension in the region.

Governor Abdullahi Ganduje has vowed to drag Governor Nyesom Wike to court over the alleged demolition of the Rainbow Town Central Mosque in Trans-Amadi area of Port Harcourt, Rivers State capital.

The Governor of one of the 12 northern states practicing Sharia Law said he received the news of the demolition with shock while promising to seek legal redress against the Rivers State Government.

Quote: “As government, we have started touching appropriate quarters against the demolition. Kano State is known for peaceful coexistence between Muslims and Christians, we should, therefore, improve on that and remain calm and peaceful. People should live peacefully with one another. And I am assuring the general public that, all necessary action against this demolition will be taken through appropriate authorities" Ganduje said in a statement released on his behalf by his Chief Press Secretary, Abba Anwar.

The statement further added that the Kano State Governor would institute “legal action against this demolition of the Mosque as well contest it with appropriate authorities for redress”.

This is coming barely 24 hours after a former Governor of Kano state and Senator representing Kano Central Senatorial district,Mallam Ibrahim Shekarau described the mosque demolition as reckless and careless.

RHAPSODY OF REALITIES

SATURDAY, 31ST AUGUST

BUILDING THE CHURCH OF CHRIST

And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it (Matthew 16:18).

The Church is important to Jesus Christ. Ephesians 5:30 says, “For we are members of his body, of his flesh, and of his bones.” The Church is His body. So, when He said, “I will build my church,” He was talking about the body of Christ, and that’s you and I; all our brothers and sisters around the world. But how can He build His church when He’s gone to heaven?

The Bible says, “And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers; For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ” (Ephesians 4:11-12). The word, “edifying” here is “building.” So, the purpose of the five-fold ministry gifts is building the body of Christ. He’s building His body through us.

As we all commit to soul winning, leading men and women to Christ in our respective spheres of contact, we’re building God’s powerful super structure! Remember, when Solomon was building God a house, he sent a message to Hiram and said, “Please send me materials. The house that I want to build for God is a magnificent building” (Read 1 Kings 5).

But you know what? The magnificence of the body of Christ today is even greater. Hallelujah!

The Bible says we’ll not give Him rest until He makes Jerusalem a praise in the earth (Isaiah 62:7); until the Church of Jesus Christ is shown to be the most beautiful living thing on the face of the earth. Glory to God!

Moreover, as a member of that body, it doesn’t matter where you’ve been; you’re being built strong; your faith is growing; you’re getting stronger by the day! He said in Acts 20:32, “And now, brethren, I commend you to God, and to the word of his grace, which is able to build you up, and to give you an inheritance among all them which are sanctified.”

CONFESSION

I’m a member of His body, of His flesh, and of His bones! My faith is built strong to repel the adversities of life, and I triumph gloriously today and always. The Lord is building His body through me, by my vital participation in the spread of the Gospel. Praise God!

#TALKINGSESSION

31ST AUGUST.

KINDLY SAY THIS WORDS OUT LOUD

Dear Father, I thank You for the life of splendour, grace, prosperity, and greatness You’ve brought me into. I am established in Your righteousness, planted in the house of the Lord; therefore, I flourish like the palm tree, with grace and glory! I bring forth fruit in season, and out of season, because I am like a tree planted by the waters, ever in blossom.

I am excelling and making progress on every side, and my faith is prevailing over circumstances, as I walk in the fullness of Your blessings. I am an offspring of the Word, and a joint heir with Christ. The lines are fallen unto me in pleasant places, and I have a goodly heritage. I am conscious of my glorious heritage in Christ, and through meditation on the Word, and fellowship with the Spirit, I get to know more and enjoy my inheritance in Christ, in Jesus’ Name. Amen!

God bless you

Nigeria losses N150 billion yearly shipping surcharge

[Image: Ship-3.jpg]EDITORS NOTE: Graphic content / A picture taken on April 8, 2019 shows shipping containers sitting at the Apapa Port Complex in Lagos, Nigeria’s economy hub. – The Nigerian port is congested with hundreds of ships, idly queueing for days to offload containers with goods. Lagos port congestion is affecting port operations and creating a severe backlog at ports, causing carriers’ containers to be held in port for extra days, as well as creating several miles of truck traffic at roads that links to port gates. (Photo by PIUS UTOMI EKPEI / AFP)
The multiple surcharges slammed on Nigeria-bound cargoes by foreign shipping companies now costs the country over N150 billion yearly.
This was revealed at the Sub-regional Summit on Shipping surcharges and High Local Shipping Charges held in Abuja yesterday.
According to a study on Impact of Unfair Surcharges and High Local Shipping Charges on National Economies of West and Central African States, Nigeria as a case study, on the Europe-Nigeria trade route, the number of multiple surcharges on Nigeria-bound cargo and the estimated loss to the Nigerian economy due to additional ‘Local Shipping Charges’ on imports exceeded N150 billion in a year.

These surcharges are Bunker Adjustment Factor, Currency Adjustment Factor, War Risk Surcharge, Congestion Surcharge Peak Season Surcharge.
Others are Extra Risk Insurance Surcharge, Freight Rates Surcharge, Port Operations Recovery Surcharge among others.
Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo has, however, rued the slamming of surcharges on Nigerian-bound cargoes by foreign shipping companies.
Osinbajo, who was represented by the Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, bemoaned the process of the introduction of the surcharges, which he said lacks transparency and not based on verifiable and available resources.
According to him, the surcharges amount to huge sums of illegal capital flight from Nigeria and the other West and Central Africa countries.
He said: “These surcharges amount to huge sums of illegal capital flight from the countries of the sub-region depleting their limited foreign exchange or reserves.
“For instance, data obtained from Nigerian Shippers Council (NSC), confirmation of reasonableness of demurrage charges for Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) revealed that more than N2billion is repatriated by multinational shipping companies in a quarter of a year.”
The vice president further stated that the introduction of surcharges without consultation contradicts the norms and ethics of maritime transportation.
“The process of introduction of theses surcharges lacks transparency and is mot based on verifiable and available statistics.

“In addition, the unilateral and arbitrary imposition of such surcharges on West and Central Africa bound cargo contradicts the norms and ethics of maritime transport.”
He, however, advised that the sub-region must at the summit adopt a common position on the reduction of incidences of unfair surcharges and related issues.
“The Federal Government through the Nigerian Shippers’ Council has put in place machinery to address some of the challenges posed by the high cost of doing business in Nigeria.
“For instance, in 2018, NSC harmonised the tariff nomenclature for local shipping charges in Nigeria, established a sustainable framework for future review of tariffs and established standards of service for all container terminals in Nigeria.”
Executive Secretary, NSC, Hassan Bello, argued that according to the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), surcharges are supposed to be a temporary measure to address peculiar challenges.
Bello, however, regretted that a temporary measure has assumed a permanence basis and stated that arbitrary and unilateral increase in charges wouldn’t benefit operations or general procedures in the country.
“According to UNCTAD, surcharges are supposed to be temporary measures by shipping lines involved in the shipment of goods worldwide to address peculiar challenges at a destination and are subject to removal when the situation normalizes. Regrettably, some of these charges have assumed permanence without justification or basis for negotiation.
“It is important to state that in the long run, arbitrary and unilateral increase in charges would not benefit operations or general procedures in our countries. A chaotic, unbridled situation of sporadic sometimes astronomical pricing regime is adverse to the development of shipping. It is a lose-lose situation.”

Over 200 vessels berth at Warri Port as security improves

[Image: warri-old-port.jpg]Warri port

Over 200 cargo vessels have berthed at the Warri Port in the last couple of months, as security improves on the waterways.
The Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), who disclosed this at a stakeholders’ forum yesterday, said reduction in sea piracy and security breaches in the area underscore the positive development.
It was gathered that the forum was convened on the directive of the Chairman, Board of Directors of the NPA, Emmanuel Adesoye. The aim is have stakeholders in the port industry exchange ideas on how to bring Delta Ports, Warri, to their former glory days.
Delta Ports Manager, Simeon Okeke, said the improved activities at the Warri Port was also due to the remedial dredging of the Escravos Channels, which have enabled larger vessels to access the Warri port; replacement of the critical buoys that were critically missing, rehabilitation of port facilities, illumination of the port, the repossession and ejection of illegal occupant from the trailer park, among others.

Okeke said that in no distant future, towage services would be efficiently handled as same had been given to a third party, adding that efforts were at a conclusive stage for the company to begin work. Documentation and payment processes had also been improved upon by the management through e-payment, e-SEN and Revenue Invoicing Management System (RIMS), he said.
“Incidents of security breaches or threats have been reduced to the barest minimum to the extent that we no longer have reports of sea piracy on our channels. We also want to state that the existing peace and security in the Delta Ports would not have been possible without the cooperation of the host communities. Peace and security would not have been possible without the cooperation of the royal fathers of the host communities. They have played their various interventionist roles creditably,” Okeke said.
The NPA board chairman, Adesoye, added that the Warri port and other ports in the state would be a major hub in maritime business when the innovations and upgrading of the port facilities were completed.
However, some of the firms operating at the terminals expressed concerns over the depth of the channels within the terminals, which had barred heavy vessels from berthing at the terminals.
They warned that unless the channel is dredged by at least nine metres, there would be low or no activity at the terminal.
The general manager of one of the terminals, Henry Ajor, said: “If we are to lessen the maritime traffic in the Lagos ports by using the Warri port, the channel within the port must be dredged to handle bigger vessels. If we want to increase business in Warri, which is critical to Delta, we need to dredge the terminal so that bigger vessels can come in.”
Also, the Shipping Trade Group complained that elsewhere, pilotage is 24-hours service, but at the Warri Port, they are restricted to some hours for some unknown reason.
They had also been assisting the NPA in paying some pilotage claims, and that up till now, the NPA had not reimbursed them.

Nigeria, others to lose $240 billion to spike in freight charges

[Image: Ship-1.jpg](Photo by PIUS UTOMI EKPEI / AFP)

There are indications that the projected increase in bunker fuel oil may cause significant increase in freight charges, and Nigeria, among other countries, may lose about $240 billion to the varying cost.
This is against the backdrop of the new regime introduced by the International Maritime Organisation (IMO) that by January 1, 2020, it would begin to regulate global Sulphuric levels from 3.5 per cent to 0.5 per cent.
Industry experts have predicted that the new regime would increase the bunker fuel oil by more than 50 per cent leading to increase in the cost of port–to–port sea freight by 10 to 20 per cent.
To this effect, shipping lines would strive to recoup the extra cost of fuel through introduction of bunker surcharges on cargoes in that shipping companies such as Maersk Lines, CMA CGM and Mediterranean Shipping Co. have already announced plans to introduce bunker surcharges to recover costs from this regulation.

The rising fuel cost means rising freight rates with majority of the cost being passed on to consumers as it is estimated that the total impact to consumers’ wallets in 2020 could be around $240 billion.
The Executive Secretary of the Nigeria Shippers Council (NSC), Hassan Bello, while speaking at the Union of African Shippers Council sub-regional sensitisation workshop and Joint Standing Committee meeting yesterday in Abuja, expressed worry that the new regime was being introduced despite the high freight rate in the sub-region.
Bello mentioned that freight rates to the sub-region were relatively high compared to other parts of the world due to low vessel ownership in the sub-region. He said that the workshop would be used to fashion out strategies to address the peculiar challenges hindering the efficient service delivery and competiveness at the ports.
He further said that the meeting would also help in the domestication and implementation of the Facilitation of International Maritime Traffic (FAL) Convention in the 19 UASC members’ states, with the objective to prevent unnecessary delays in maritime traffic, aid cooperation between governments, secure the highest practicable degree of uniformity in formalities and other procedures, and reduce the number of declarations, which can be required by public authorities to just eight.
The Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, in his remarks also stressed the need for the sub-region to come up with a common position to ensure that the extra costs on the fuel bunk oil are not imposed arbitrarily on West and Central African bound cargoes.

Over 25 cooking gas off-takers to access 10,000mt plant offer

[Image: Nipco-gas-plant.jpg]NIPCO
One of the major distributors of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) also known as cooking gas in Nigeria, NIPCO Plc, has declared plans to deepen the commitment of its 10,000metric tons plant for distribution of the product to gas markets plants across the nation and servicing of over 25 LPG off takers approved by the Nigeria LNG Ltd.
Managing Director of the company, Sanjay Teotia, who declared this during the conferment Of Special Award by Nigeria Association of LPG marketers (NALPGAM) on the Company, maintained that NIPCO’s storage and distribution system has always been within the context of the Annual Contract Quantity [ACQ] approved by the Nigeria LNG (NLNG).
Teotia spoke through the company’s Assistant General Manager, Corporate Affairs ,Lawal Taofeek.
Throwing his weight behind the NLNG for maintaining global standard in its dealings with all stakeholders, Teotia noted that the gas giant had been fair and just to all in the distribution of the product under the ACQ to all buyers which had partly contributed to the growth in the usage and utilization of the clean and smoke free cooking fuel.

He said; “The company’s efforts in the sector is aimed at improving the gas value chain by providing avenue for storage and dispense to bottling plants owners and other ancillary operators in the LPG market . In the course of NIPCO’s intervention, the transport infrastructure and delivery system were improved upon with scores of LPG delivery trucks to bottling plants and over 60 skids inaugurated by the company across the country.
“Our plant with a combined capacity of over 10,000mt has not only served as veritable channel for storage of the product alone but also distribution to gas markets plants across the nation and servicing of over 25 LPG off takers approved by the Nigeria LNG Ltd.
“NIPCO’s storage and distribution system has always been within the context of the Annual Contract Quantity [ACQ] approved by the Nigeria LNG which had been meticulously followed to the delight of all stakeholders .”
On the distribution of the product, he said: “NLNG has remained a reasonable and consistent company in honouring agreement with all buyers in line with its ACQ, a feat that we are delighted upon as one of t6he key operators in the LPG sub sector of the hydrocarbon industry.
“The intervention of NLNG in the domestic LPG market since 2007 has been commendable with regularity of supplies with majority of the organization off takers taking their volumes through the PPMC jetties with its attendant cheaper logistic cost of receipt,” he said.
NIPCO in the letter of award was adjudged to have played exemplary roles in deepening of LPG utilization / consumption in Nigeria in the areas of LPG availability, distribution, accessibility and affordability.
The National President, NALPGAM, Nosa Ogieva -Okunbor and members of the Governing council of the association noted that since the entry of the company in 2009, the face of the business has changed positively with more avenue to source the product for the benefit of end users.

Nigeria’s oil production rises despite high sabotage records

Nigeria’s oil output including condensates remained on an upward swing despite an increase in sabotage attacks on production facilities, the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation has said.
The country’s production hovered around 2.2 million b/d in the first week of August, according to S&P Global Platts, compared with around 1.92 million b/d a year ago.
The latest monthly data from the NNPC showed that average production for the month of May peaked at 1.94mbpd.

The country’s crude and condensate production has risen sharply in the past six months due to the start-up of the 205,000 b/d deepwater Egina field which came online December 29.
Nigeria pumped 2.1 million b/d and 2.05 million b/d of crude and condensate in June and July respectively, based on Platts estimates.
The NNPC spokesman said however that the steady growth in production was being threatened by a corresponding rise in cases of attacks on its network of oil pipelines.
“NNPC recorded a 77 per cent increase in cases of oil pipeline vandalism in its network of pipeline infrastructure in June 2019,” he said, adding that the company was collaborating with government security agencies to secure the pipelines and other production facilities.
Oil companies warned last week that escalating production costs due in part to security issues posed a serious challenge to Nigeria’s bid to boost its oil output and reserves.
The companies, under the umbrella body of the Oil Producers’ Trade Group of the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry, said high costs were a major disincentive to investing in new projects.
“Nigeria ranks amongst the top 10 countries with the highest cost of producing oil and gas equivalents per barrel. Security costs are escalating as peculiarities of the business environment require additional resources be deployed to secure our people and assets,” chairman of the group Paul McGrath said at an industry event last week.
Nigeria has said it aims to sharply increase its crude oil production to 3 million b/d and reserves to 40 billion barrels by 2023, from around 2 million b/d and 37 billion barrels now.

Stock Exchange lifts suspension on Royal Exchange

AUTHORITIES at the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) on Thursday lifted suspension placed on trading on the shares of Royal Exchange Plc after the insurance-based holding group submitted its audited report and accounts.

The NSE had in July 2019 suspended trading on Royal Exchange and 10 other companies for failing to adhere to best corporate governance and extant post-listing requirements that make it mandatory for quoted companies to submit their financial statements within stipulated timelines.
Post-listing rules at the NSE require quoted companies to submit their audited earnings reports, not later than 90 calendar days after the expiration of the period. The rules also require quoted companies to submit interim report not later than 30 calendar days after the end of the relevant period.
Not less than 83 per cent of quoted companies use the 12-month Gregorian calendar year as their business year. The business year thus terminates on December 31. While March 31 is usually the deadline for submission of annual report for companies with Gregorian calendar business year, the deadline for the quarterly report is a month after the quarter.
The NSE stated that Royal Exchange has submitted its audited financial statement, prompting the Exchange to restore trading on the company on Thursday.
Key extracts of the audited report and accounts for the year ended December 31, 2018 showed that the group made a net loss of N156.18 million in 2018, an improvement on net loss of N969.64 million recorded in 2017. Loss per share thus declined from 19 kobo in 2017 to 3.0 kobo in 2018.
Gross premium written rose by 15 per cent from N12.82 billion in 2017 to N14.71 billion in 2018. Underwriting income rose by 28 per cent from N7.6 billion to N9.7 billion, Underwriting profit jumped by 249 per cent to N3.67 billion in 2018 as against N1.05 billion in 2017. Profit before tax stood at N326.87 million in 2018 compared with pre-tax loss of N682.13 million in 2017.

However, the interim report and accounts of the group for the first quarter ended March 31, 2019 showed a general decline in performance.  Gross premium written dropped by 27 per cent to N5.6 billion in first quarter 2019 as against N7.68 billion recorded in first quarter 2018. Underwriting income declined by 12 per cent from N2.7 billion to N2.38 billion. Underwriting profit dropped by 55 per cent to N563.37 million in first quarter 2019 compared with N1.23 billion recorded in corresponding period of 2018.
The group recorded a pre-tax loss of N142.09 million in first quarter 2019 as against pre-tax profit of N572,40 million in first quarter 2018. After taxes, net loss rose to N187.56 million in first quarter 2019 as against net profit of N389.9 million in first quarter 2018. Loss per share thus stood at 4.0 kobo in first quarter 2019 as against earnings per share of 8.0 kobo in first quarter 2018.
An investment fund set up by the German government recently acquired 39.25 per cent in Royal Exchange General Insurance Company (REGIC) Limited, a subsidiary of Royal Exchange. The investment fund- InsuResilience Investment Fund (IIF) was set up on behalf of German government by KfW and managed by Swiss-based Impact Investment Manager BlueOrchard Finance Limited.
The proceeds of the acquisition would help REGIC to spur growth by increasing its risk capital and supporting its underwriting capacity in agriculture, thus extending its outreach to low income farmers.
Based in Luxembourg, IIF was set up by KfW, the German Development Bank, on behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ). The overall objective of IIF is to contribute to adaptation to climate change by improving access to and the use of insurance in developing countries.

Police Killing: DHQ Panel Probes Soldiers’ Bank Statements
User Avatar Forum: General Discussion
Posted by: Edoman - 08-31-2019, 09:01 AM - No Replies

The Defence Headquarters’ Joint Investigative Panel probing the killing of three policemen in Ibi, Taraba State, has yet to submit its report because it is still analysing the bank transactions of the soldiers arrested, Saturday PUNCH has learnt.

The panel constituted on President Muhammadu Buhari’s instructions on August 9, met on Friday and continued the collation of evidence obtained from the bank statements of the soldiers under investigation for their alleged roles in releasing a kidnap suspect, Hamisu Wadume, when he was being driven to Jalingo from Ibi after his arrest by the Inspector-General of Police Intelligence Response Team.

The panel is expected to submit its report to the Chief of Defence Staff, Gen Abayomi Olonisakin, and its failure to do so is said to be delaying the trial of Captain Tijjani Balarabe, and others who have been in detention since the first week of August.

Our correspondent reported on Friday that the trial of culpable soldiers might not begin until the first week of September.

The panel headed by Rear Admiral Ibikunle Olaiya has been meeting at the Defence Intelligence Agency, Abuja, during which they cross-examined the soldiers, police, civilians and the rearrested Wadume.

A source had disclosed that the seven-man panel’s report indicted some soldiers who face a court-martial and likely dismissal, “going by their level of culpability”.

An authoritative source confirmed on Friday that one of the issues delaying the report was the analysis of the bank statements of the suspects which would be “undeniable proof of their culpability or otherwise”.

He said, “The panel is not done with the bank statements of the soldiers obtained from several banks and which have to be analysed. This is one of the reasons why the panel has yet to submit its report.

“The evidence has to be factual and concrete, so that the authorities can have a solid case during its court-martial. This is because if the trial of the soldiers is not properly done, they can appeal at a general court, which can overrule the panel. The panel has a responsibility, not only to the CDS, but also to the President. Whatever they turn in is believed to be the position of the entire Nigerian military. That is a huge assignment. They are only trying to be thorough.”

‘U.S. Tourists Pay $270 For Nigerian Visa, Not $180’
User Avatar Forum: General Discussion
Posted by: Edoman - 08-31-2019, 09:00 AM - No Replies

There are indications that the row between Nigeria and the U.S. over visa fee charges might escalate despite the Federal Government’s directive to the Nigerian embassy in the U.S. to reduce the visa fee to $160.

Findings showed that the directive was yet to be implemented as of yesterday, as U.S. tourists still paid as much $270 as visa fee.

A Nigerian whose family just returned to Port Harcourt from the United States told The Guardian that contrary to the Nigerian embassy’s claim on its website that visa processing fee is $180, citizens of United States, including Nigerian citizens who naturalised but could not renew their passports due to scarcity of booklets were usually asked to pay as much as $270.

The source, who pleaded anonymity, explained that himself, his wife and children who were born in the U.S. but live in Port Harcourt, had travelled to the U.S. in June this year after waiting several months to no avail for the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) to issue them their renewed Nigerian passports.

He narrated that the NIS had promised to courier the booklets to him once they were ready. He stated that having waited till early this month to no avail, he decided to apply for a Nigerian visa for the children to enable them re-enter Nigeria where they currently school.

“On the website, the visa fee is $180. This is in addition to $31 for self-addressed envelop, which is normal because they must post your visa to you at your own cost. But after we went through the whole process, they saw our documents and then demanded for $90 extra. Beside us, another Nigerian who had naturalised carrying an American passport was also asked to pay the said $90. He too asked them why the $90 was not stated on the website. They claimed it was handling charges, whereas on website, $20 out of the official $180, was stated as transaction charge,” he said.

He noted that the reason given for the additional $90 hidden charge was not plausible, not cogent and something that was shockingly indefensible.

“When you are paying for an American visa in Nigeria, you pay to GTB. Afterwards, you don’t have another financial transaction with the embassy in Nigeria. I expected that the Nigerian embassy after charging the $180 they would not charge you another amount,” he added.

The source lamented that the officials at the consulate do not give Nigerians preference, as it is the norm in other countries’ embassies around the world.

He claimed that officials demanded that he and wife pay $4 for using the computer at the embassy to write two letters requesting that his children be issued a Nigerian visa.

Lagos has been ranked the world's most dangerous city to live in by the Economist Intelligence Unit in its newly released report.

The British business intelligence which provides forecasting and advisory services through research and analysis reviewed the living state of 60 cities using the digital security, health, infrastructure and personal security index.

Quote:“Urban management will play a fundamental role in defining the quality of life of most human beings in the coming years. A key element of this will be the ability of cities to provide security for their residents, businesses and visitors.
“A look at the top five cities in each pillar—digital, health, infrastructure and personal security—yields a similar message. In each area, leading cities got the basics right, be it easy access to high-quality healthcare, dedicated cyber-security teams, community-based police patrolling or disaster continuity planning" the report read in parts.

Japan's capital city, Tokyo was ranked the safest city to live in the world. Singapore, Osaka, Amsterdam and Sydney also took the second to fifth spot in the safest cities to live in.  This is the first time Lagos will be featured on the list and it took the 56th spot on the digital security ranking and the 58th on the infrastructure security ranking.

Nigerians stage protest at the Nigerian High Commission in Pretoria over xenophobic attacks

Nigerians in South Africa stormed the Nigerian High Commission in Pretoria, South Africa, to protest xenophobic attacks directed at them in South Africa.

The protesters, mostly made up of victims of xenophobic attacks in South Africa, said on Thursday, August 29, that they are angered by the recent massive looting of foreign-owned shops in the city by some South Africans.

They complained that they lost properties and business investments when South Africans carried out an attack on foreigners on Wednesday, August 28, at Pretoria business district.

South African indigenes carried out the attack in anger after a taxi operator was killed by a yet-to-be-identified man. During the attack, they resorted to looting shops owned by foreigners in their country and mostly Nigerians were the ones affected by this.

The Nigerians affected said they no longer feel safe in South Africa and accused the Nigerian representatives in South Africa of being slow in responding to their plight.

However, Defence Adviser, Nigerian High Commission in South Africa, Abubakar Mustapha, condemned the protesters for venting anger on the commission by destroying some properties.

"The way they went about it was quite unfortunate, they scaled the fence and almost destroyed the gate," Mustapha said.

Nigeria High Commission officers later visited the scenes of the looting to see the level of damage done on businesses owned by Nigerians.

Nnamdi Kanu: Buhari Encircled And Trapped In His Yokohama Hotel Hideout

Quote:WE HAVE BUHARI ENCIRCLED AND TRAPPED IN HIS HIDEOUT IN A YOKOHAMA HOTEL – NNAMDI KANU

How come all of their so-called Elites, Intellectuals, Professors, Academics, Opinion Leaders, Politicians, Royal Fathers, Pundits, Pastors, Native Doctors, are silent as their government keeps on dishing out lies upon lies, deceit upon deceit, fake picture after fake picture, fake video after fake video, but are busy worrying about IPOB confronting their dirty murderous politicians abroad?

Whether shame will allow them to admit to it or not, the fact remains that Buhari is dead, buried in Saudi Arabia and replaced by Jubril Al-Sudani an impostor. That is why they have this elaborate dance of shame going on in Japan with fake pictures. We have now made sure that every government of the world is aware of this national disgrace and most heinous and despicable act being perpetrated Fulani cabal. No amount of badly photoshopped pictures, fake vidoes, lies and doctored images will save Jubri-Buhari.

Those that claim custody of societal morals and values have suddenly lost their tongue, paralysed by fear of the killer Fulani cabal in Aso Rock. In front of them is a national fraud of immense proportion being perpetrated by a bunch of criminals in high political office but out fear and ingrained cowardice they have chosen to keep quiet in the face of evil. This scale of deceit is not only historic but unprecedented, yet these people that claim to know it all are gravely silent.

We smell blood and are closing in for the kill. Jubril-Buhari is encircled and trapped by IPOB in his hideout in a Yokohama hotel. There is no escape for him. We know where his presidential jet is and will never allow him to leave Japan. Even if they try to smuggle him out by hiding him in a diplomatic bag, we shall get hold of him.

The blood of those this Nigerian Government killed through their Army and Police as a result of Operation Python Dance including those that fell at Nkpor, Onitsha, Enugu, Aba, Afaraukwu, Ngwa, Mbiama and Igweocha are crying from the grave. We must not let them down.

Check this video posted by the President of Liberia and tell me if you can find Jubril-Buhari in it. Every other head of state is there except the Sudanese impostor Nigerians adopted as their president. Common to demand for a live video of the event from Femi Adeshina, they can’t. Shame on them.

Fayose: “I Won’t Dignify An Assembly Of Clowns With My Presence
User Avatar Forum: General Discussion
Posted by: Edoman - 08-30-2019, 02:57 PM - No Replies

Quote:Former governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose, has said he would not dignify the state house of assembly with his presence to answer for alleged misappropriation of local government funds.

Mr Fayose said this in a statement late Thursday by his spokesman, Lere Olayinka, over the summons for him to appear before the assembly.

Also summoned inter alia was former speaker of the house, Kola Oluwawole, alongside some suspended members of the fifth assembly over the passage of a N10 billion revised appropriation law towards the end of Fayose’s tenure.

The lawmakers also directed Mr Olayinka to appear before them for not allegedly remitting revenue of above N13 million while he was a supervisor at the state-owned broadcasting service.

Fayose’s spokesman said in the statement that the lawmakers should “ask the man who used SMS to appoint them” to invite the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to probe the allegation against Fayose.

He said: “Former Governor Ayo Fayose will not dignify an assembly of clowns who are under the total control of a governor who is desperately in search of ways to cover his electoral thievery and failure to secure the acceptance of Ekiti people.

“If they have any evidence of financial impropriety against him (Fayose), they can ask the man who used SMS to appoint them to invite EFCC operatives and accommodate them in the Government House as he has done on many occasions. As for us, we are moving on.”

Provexum And it's unlikely you may be the one Provexum. I'm reading your blog to be ready for traveling alone in India. When you do determine to take a singles holiday you must look for a journey company that specializes in such tours, especially for singles over 50. Should you e-book a vacation through a regular journey agency, you'll most probably be charged a "singles complement" which may in extreme cases run as much as 100% over the marketed cost. It may get lonely, when you don't strike up friendships along the way, you possibly can find yourself spending lots of time alone, which on occasion could be nice, however it is extremely good to share experiences with other folks. Touring solo in Israel. If you are fearful you may be lonely and even feel bored on your first solo adventure, my best recommendation is: book a city journey to a vacation spot you will have a genuine curiosity in. The thrill of visiting a place you've been dreaming of will wash away a variety of the awkwardness and worries.

Truck crushes ORide motorcycle operator to death-Photo
User Avatar Forum: Other Stories
Posted by: Edoman - 08-30-2019, 01:31 PM - No Replies

Quote:Barely 48 hours after a truck belonging to a cement company rammed into a BRT bus killing three and injuring many others in Lagos, another truck conveying cows yesterday crushed an operator of motorbike ride-hailing service, ORide (OPay), to death at Iyana-Itire bus-stop on the Oshodi-Apapa expressway.

The ORide operator simply identified as Sikiru was hit from behind and dragged off from his bike by the truck for a few meters on the one-lane service road inward Cele express. The main expressway had been cordoned off from Toyota bus-stop by HiTech Construction, which is rehabilitating the highway.

The Guardian gathered that immediately after the accident occurred, the truck driver fled from the scene. Policemen from the Ilasa police station chased after the driver, who drove to an area near Apapa, parked the truck and disappeared.

Sikiru, whose name was confirmed by a fellow ORide operator, was said to have only just obtained the new bike with plate number AAB-388VE on Saturday and began operations on Wednesday, the day before his death. It was gathered the company has been reached in a bid to get his address and contact his family.

Describing how the accident occurred, an eyewitness named Williams, said the rider was trying to swerve to the road setback to avoid the fast approaching truck but he was later dragged off the bike and his head crushed by the last wheels of the truck.

He said: “When he turned and saw the speed with which the truck was coming behind him, the Okada rider tried to move sideways for the truck to pass but couldn’t make it as the closeness was too much and the contact dragged him off his bike, getting his head crushed.”

Expressing his anger and grief, an eyewitness who pleaded for anonymity, lamented the slow pace of the construction work on the Oshodi-Apapa expressway. He said the little space left for trucks and vehicles on the service lane was too narrow.

“It’s been three weeks since this road has been cordoned off and the pace of work is slow. I don’t know how many lives would have to go because of this construction. The road left for these vehicles is too small. Recently, a container fell on someone on this same road. Their construction is taking too long.”

The Isolo-Mile 2 route is known for its traffic gridlock since the construction began, with just a lane available for all Cele-Apapa motorists. Attributing the narrow space on the service lane to the spoilt and abandoned vehicles on the roadside, a resident, Abayomi Olusegun, has called for the removal of abandoned vehicles along the corridor. His words: “These parked cars are causing problem. If they are not there, the road will be free a little. They are just dumped here, taking up space that Okadas could have been able to ply comfortably without the risk of death.”

Efforts to get further information at the Ilasa police station on the possible arrest of the truck driver or if the truck sighted at Apapa would be impounded, were not successful as The Guardian was referred to the Police Public Relations Officer at the Ikeja headquarters of the Lagos command.

Theoritically, you can transmit election results electronically - INEC

The Independent and National Electoral Commission's Director of Publiclity, Mr Oluwole Osaze-Uzzi has stated that there might be a theoritical transmission of election results electronically even though it is not embedded in the electoral laws.

The INEC spokesperson who disclosed this while appearing on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Thursday August 29, maintained that the nation’s laws does not create room for the electronic transmission of electoral results. He further alleged that the electronic transmission of results is not immune to manipulation as it can also be manipulated by those whose aim is to undermine results.

Quote:“Theoretically, in our elections, you can transmit the results electronically. But the law in Nigeria does not allow for that.
“If Nigerians want that to happen, then you can do that. But that does not mean it will not be susceptible to manipulation by people who are interested in manipulating the process,” he said.

Osaze-Uzzi also explained that the most important part of an election process is the actual voting and direction of result.

Quote: “That is the building for the very foundation. If that is not right, others are not right. Even if INEC gets the collation wrong which it should not, there is a process by which, for example it is challenged, it goes back to the commission" he added.

Three students of the Federal College of Education (Technical), Akoka, Lagos have been arrested and arraigned before an Ikeja magistrate court for gang raping a 15-year-old girl who was on her period on Saturday June 29, 2019.

The teenager was visiting the school when she was dragged into the Students Union Government treasurer’s office by one Ayo Segun who is still on the run. It was learnt that the FCET's SUG treasurer, Mudi Phillip was present when the girl was raped in his office by Oluwabanwo Kolawole and Chibuzo Ezegbue who he was arrested with.

Quote:“Segun, Kolawole and Ezegbue took me inside Philip’s office at the SUG building and said they would protect me and use me as their queen if I agreed to have sex with them. Philip was there pressing his phone when I started arguing with them, but when Segun realised that I was shouting, he ordered the rest of the guys out and told me that he would kill me if I refused to have sex with him. I told him I was menstruating, but he never cared and he forcefully had sex with me.
“I thought it was over, but the others came in one after the other to have sex with me. When I tried to stop them, they threatened me. Ezegbue had sex with me but when it was Kolawole’s turn, he saw blood around my private parts and knew I was tired, so he told me to give him oral sex, which I did. When it was Philip’s turn, I pleaded with him and he said he wasn’t there to have sex with me, but said that I should lie to the others that he had sex with me if they asked" the girl said while recalling how the sad incident occurred.

The Lagos state Police spokesperson, Bala Elkana told newsmen that Phillip was released by the court while the two other suspects were remanded in Ikoyi prison.

Quote:“We have arrested the suspects involved in the case of the 15-year-old girl, who was defiled by four boys at the FCE (T), Akoka. Two of the suspects, Ezegbue Chibuzo and Oluwabanwo Kolawole, have been charged and are currently remanded in prison custody" he said.

By Okechukwu Onuegbu
Awka

Awka Diocesan Priests, Religious, 2018/2019 out-going and 2019/2020 in-coming episcopal household last Sunday, August 25, 2019 filed out at St. Patrick's Catholic Cathedral's refectory to witnessed the celebration of Bishop Paulinus Ezeokafor's annual iwaji festival. The visibly elated Priests were seen in their numbers adorning all manner of traditional attires.

Speaking immediately after cutting the roast new yam and declaring it open for consumption, the chief shepherd of Awka Diocese, expressed gratitude to God for his mercies and good health and for allowing them to participate in another round of iwaji celebration.

Bishop Ezeokafor who described yam as the king of all crops, said the period of iwaji was actually a period of thanksgiving to God for His benevolence and for granting the farmers bountiful harvest, noting that he (Bishop Ezeokafor) would continue to appreciate culture and tradition, describing it as Igbo's identity.

The Catholic Prelate who ate the roast yam with well garnished sauce in the full glare of those who came to celebrate with him, urged Ndigbo to upheld their cultural heritage, noting that it was only an insane fellow and dimwit that would undermine their culture.

The chief Shepherd of Awka Catholic Diocese announced that the celebration at the Cathedral would be carried out simultaneously in all the parishes in Awka Diocese, noting that he was not alone in the celebration.

The Local Ordinary flanked by the Awka Diocesan Chancellor, Very Rev. Fr. Dr. Francis Chidume; Msgr. JPC Nzomiwu, said he saw nothing wrong in people celebrating their culture provided it was not done in a fetish way.

Bishop Ezeokafor called on government at all levels to give culture a facelift by providing incentive and also to pay adequate attention to the celebrants.

In their separate speeches, the Awka Diocesan Chancellor, Very Rev. Fr. Dr. Francis Chidume; Cathedral Administrator, Very Rev. Fr. Dr. Matthew Attansey and the Bishop Ezeokafor's secretary, Rev. Fr. Dr. Michael Monwe harped on humility and diligence.

Nigeria remains Africa’s largest smartphone market

Nigeria remains Africa’s largest smartphone market

The Africa mobile phone market declined 1.8% quarter-on-quarter (QoQ) in Q2 2019, according to the latest figures announced by International Data Corporation (IDC).
According to the global technology research and consulting firm’s newly released Quarterly Mobile Phone Tracker, overall shipments for the quarter totaled 52.2 million units, down from 53.1 million units in Q1 2019.

Feature phones accounted for 58.3% of the market, with shipments declining 3.7% QoQ, while smartphone shipments increased 1.0% over the same period to account for 41.7% share.

“Feature phones remain an integral part of the African mobile phone market due to poor network infrastructure across large parts of the continent, particularly in rural areas, and the ease of use of these devices,” says George Mbuthia, a research analyst at IDC.

“However, the transition to smartphones is continuing, albeit slowly, and the affordability of feature phones alone was not enough to stop this segment of the market declining in Q2 2019. Smartphones, on the other hand, enjoyed a recovery from the decline in shipments seen in Q1 2019.”

Nigeria remained Africa’s largest smartphone market in Q2 2019, followed by South Africa and Egypt. Nigeria and South Africa saw smartphone shipments increase 3.6% and 0.2%, respectively, while Egypt saw 18.0% QoQ growth after the market shrunk considerably in Q1 2019 due to the introduction of import registration and other import regulations.

Transsion (Tecno, Infinix, and Itel brands), Samsung, and Huawei were the smartphone market’s leaders in shipment terms in Q2 2019, with respective market shares of 37.4%, 27.4%, and 8.7%.

However, Samsung had the highest share by dollar value at 40.3%, followed Transsion (21.9%) and Huawei (12.2%).

Samsung’s dominant revenue position in the market is sustained through timely product launches across all African markets, particularly in relation to its A-Series devices, which are shipped in large volumes.

Shipments of 4G-enabled smartphones increased by 6.6% QoQ in Q2 2019 to account for 70.8% of the total smartphone market, spurred by the declining prices of LTE devices.

IDC forecasts that 4G-enabled phones will constitute 74.4% of the African smartphone market by the end of 2020, with 5G phones tipped to garner a 0.4% share.

“5G-enabled smartphones are expected to be introduced to the African market by end of Q3 2019,” said Ramazan Yavuz, a research manager at IDC.

“The first country to see the launch of 5G phones is likely to be South Africa, where the 5G infrastructure is being developed by Ericsson in partnership with MTN.”

Looking ahead, IDC expects Africa’s smartphone market to grow 4.7% QoQ in Q3 2019 to a total 22.8 million units.

Despite feature phones experiencing an average QoQ decline of 1.8% in unit shipments between Q1 2018 and Q2 2019, the feature phone market will grow slightly in Q3 2019, with shipments increasing 0.1% QoQ to total 30.5 million units, spurred by the introduction of support for basic applications and the ability of these devices to serve as power banks.

Court Convicts Four Yahoo Boys In Lagos (Photos)
User Avatar Forum: News
Posted by: Edoman - 08-30-2019, 11:34 AM - No Replies

Quote:The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Lagos office, on Wednesday, August 28, 2019, secured the conviction of four internet fraudsters before Justice Hakeem Oshodi of the State High Court sitting in Ikeja, Lagos.

The convicts, Olatunde Olanrewaju, Ajuwon Oladipo, Abraham Adeoye and Adejumola Gbolahan, were arraigned on separate charges bordering on possession of fraudulent documents.

One of the charges reads: "That you, Olatunde Olanrewaju, sometime in June, 2019 in Lagos within the Ikeja Judicial Division, had in your possession a document, which contains false pretence to which you ought to know, having regard to the circumstances of the case, that the document contains the false pretence.”

Another charge reads: "That you, Ajuwon Oladipo, sometime in June, 2019 in Lagos within the Ikeja Judicial Division, had in your possession a document which contains false pretences to wit: 'hello hun' with attachments, which document you ought to know, having regard to the circumstances of the case, that the document contains false pretences.”

The convicts each pleaded guilty to the charges preferred against them.

In view of their pleas, the prosecution counsel, Bilkisu Buhari and Nkemruwem Anana, informed the court that the convicts willingly entered into a 'plea bargain agreement' with the Commission.

The facts of the cases were then reviewed, wherein the defendants made extra- judicial statements confessing to have committed the crimes.

The prosecution counsel further told the court about the items recovered from the defendants, which included two Mercedes Benz C-class cars, six mobile phones, two laptops and a hard drive.

The prosecution counsel, therefore, urged the court to convict and sentence the defendants based on the plea bargain agreements entered into by the defendants.

Counsel to the defendants pleaded with the court to temper justice with mercy on the grounds that their clients were first-time offenders who had shown remorse.

In his judgment, Justice Oshodi convicted the defendants.

The Judge, however, gave the defendants an option of fine of N200, 000 (Two Hundred Thousand Naira) each, which must be paid within 60 days from the day of Judgment.

Justice Oshodi also ordered the convicts to undertake a six-month community service in any General Hospital in Lagos.

The Hospital management was directed to submit a report on the service carried out by the convicts to the Ministry of Justice.

Justice Oshodi further directed the EFCC to ensure compliance to the order by filing and serving the court with a report on the last Friday of every month for the duration of six months.

Justice Oshodi also held that the convicts would be imprisoned for a term of one year if the fine is not paid within the specified period and that the sentencing would commence from the day of default.
