Adegboruwa, Schiffrin, Others Decry His Continued Detention

Meanwhile, investigative journalists around the world yesterday joined the call for Sowore’s immediate release, just as the human rights lawyer, Ebun Olu-Adegboruwa (SAN) has declared his continued detention by the DSS illegal.

In her speech delivered at the on-going Global Investigative Journalism Conference in Hamburg, Germany, the Director, Media, Technology and Advocacy Specialisation, Columbia University’s School of International and Public Affairs, Anya Schiffrin, lamented Sowore’s continued detention by the DSS even after reportedly meeting his bail conditions.

Schiffrin said: “Mr. Sowore is a world-renowned journalist. He has pioneered new and important avenues in the field of investigative journalism.

“In addition, he is the founder of the well-known online investigative news outlet, Sahara Reporters, that focuses on corruption and political misconduct.

“Many colleagues in the worlds of journalism and academia hold Mr. Sowore in great esteem for his life-long effort in speaking truth to power.“After Sowore had spent more than six weeks in jail, on September 24, a Federal High Court Judge, Justice Taiwo Taiwo, granted Sowore bail and asked Sowore to surrender his passport pending his trial.”

Justice Taiwo of the Federal High Court had last Tuesday ordered the release of Sowore, who has been in the DSS custody since August 2, this year, when he was arrested in Lagos by the Service.

While ordering his release, Justice Taiwo noted that the detention order he issued to the DSS on August 8 expired last Saturday, September 21.The Judge had observed that he took cognizance of the fact that the DSS initially filed an ex-parte motion for extension of the detention order for another 20 days, but later withdrew the application through its lawyer, Godwin Abadua, and it was accordingly struck out.He held that the application having been struck out, there was nothing before the court to warrant Sowore’s continued stay in detention, noting: “The constitutional right to liberty of the high and the low, as well as the poor and the rich is guaranteed under the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

“I am of the view that the Respondent ought to be released forthwith in view of the fact that there is no extant order of this court for his continued detention.”

But the DSS appears to have ignored the court order, as frantic attempts by Sowore’s lawyers to secure his freedom had hit a brick wall. A member of his legal team disclosed that the agency blatantly refused to release him, feigning ignorance of the order.Spokesperson of the DSS had claimed that the agency had yet to receive a copy of the court order, contrary to insistence of Sowore’s lawyer, Femi Falana (SAN), that it was duly received on September 24, the same day it was made, by one Ayuba Adam of the Legal Department of the DSS.

The agency made the denial few hours after Sowore’s lawyer commenced a process to commit its DSS Director General, Yusuf Bichi, to prison for flouting a subsisting court order after the detained activist had met all the conditions for his release. Falana decried the refusal by the DSS to comply with the court order even after it was duly served with an affidavit of compliance and consequently filed a Form-48, which is ‘Notice of Consequence of Disobedience of Court Order,’ for Bichi to adduce reasons why he should not be jailed for disobeying the court order.

Despite its denial of receiving the court order, the DSS, yesterday, blocked an attempt by a Bailiff of the court to re-serve it with the order. The Bailiff, who arrived at the DSS headquarters in Abuja about 9:30a.m yesterday, was asked to return by 12noon when Bichi would be around.

However, upon his return at 12.40p.m, the Bailiff was denied access into the DSS premises.Adegboruwa, in an interview with The Guardian said if Sowore has met his bail conditions as claimed by his lawyers, his continued detention was in flagrant violation of the express order of the court. According to him, Nigeria is running a constitutional democracy, founded upon the concept of the rule of law, which prescribes unconditional respect for all orders of the court.

Adegboruwa said: “The DSS has not appealed against the order of the Federal High Court admitting Sowore on bail pending his trial, if any. That imposed on it a compulsory obligation to comply with the said order, willy-nilly.

“Indeed, it was upon the order of court that the DSS kept Sowore in custody in the first place and if the same court has now ordered his release, there can be no justification for his continued detention. When government and its agencies refuse to obey lawful orders of court, society descends into the Hobbesian state where life becomes brutish and short, and this encourages citizens to resort to lawlessness.

“Under and by virtue of section 287 (3) of the 1999 Constitution, ‘the decisions of the Federal High Court shall be enforced in any part of the federation by all authorities and persons.’“To that extent, there can be no justification whatsoever, for the continued detention of Sowore by the DSS, especially as it is not contesting the order of court. This is why the continued detention of Mr Sowore by the DSS is illegal.”

Three persons were on Thurs. Sept. 26, found guilty of criminal impersonation by the Federal High Court, Ibadan, and sentenced to prison terms, Igbere TV reports.

According to a statement by the EFCC on Friday, the trio – Augustine Ekeson, Obinna Ureahi Ifeanyi and Osho Olalekan Micheal – were convicted in cases filed against them by the Commission.

Justice Patricia Ajoku, after considering the facts of an amended one-count charge against Obinna and Ifeanyi, pronounced them guilty and sentenced them to two years imprisonment each.

The duo had earlier been arraigned on a three-count charge based on the allegations raised against them in a petitioned received from one Mobolade Dele Akinbuluma, a Doctoral student of the University of Ibadan.

Akinbuluma alleged that the accused hacked into her email account to misrepresent themselves as staff of a Kenyan university where she was to undertake a study as part of her doctorate programme.

She was, in the process, defrauded of N875,490 (Eight hundred and seventy five thousand four hundred and ninety Naira).

The duo pleaded not-guilty to the charge, but later approached the EFCC for a plea bargain.

Following an agreement on the terms of the plea bargain, they were re-arraigned on Thursday on a one-count amended charge.

The latest charge reads: “That you Augustine Ekeson M and Obinna Ureahl Ifeanyi on or about the 3rd of December 2015 at Ibadan within the jurisdiction of this honourable court did conspire amongst yourself to commit felony to wit: fraudulently impersonated one Mrs. Lillian Igweta, a secretary to Professor Torto with intent to gain advantage for yourself and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 27 (1) (b) of the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention etc) Act, 2015 and punishable under Section 22(4) of the same Act."

They pleaded guilty to the charge, prompting a prayer by the EFCC counsel, Ifeanyi Agwu, for their conviction.

The presiding judge accordingly sentenced them to two years imprisonment each.

Meanwhile, Justice Joyce Abdulmalik, equally of the Federal High Court, Ibadan, also jailed Osho on Thursday for an internet-related offence.

Osho was found guilty of falsely representing himself to be an American citizen named Jack, using same to defraud one Maria.

He was sentenced to six months in prison and ordered to make restitution of $200 (two hundred United States Dollars) to his victim. The jail term takes effect from April 3, 2019, day he was arrested.

Igbere TV gathers that he is also to forfeit to the Federal Government of Nigeria items recovered from him in the course of investigation.

Six Facebook hackers jailed in Calabar after they all pleaded 'guilty' (Photos)






Justice Simon Amobeda of the Federal High Court sitting in Calabar, Cross Rivers State, on Thursday, September 26, 2019, convicted and sentenced 6 Facebook Hackers to one year imprisonment each, with an option of fine of Five hundred thousand naira (N500,000.00).
 
The convicts are; Lawrence Nnamdi-Mba Ebesike, Prince E. Udeh, Chijioke Victor, Promise Odimba, Ugbor Ifeanyi and Prince Anthony. They were arraigned on Wednesday, September 25, 2019 on separate one-count charge, bordering on impersonation and fraud, before the same court and they all pleaded "guilty".
 
In view of their pleas, the prosecution counsel, Usman Shehu, informed the court of the plea bargain agreements entered and executed by the prosecution and the defence. The matter was thereafter adjourned to September 26, 2019, for conviction and sentence while the convicts were remanded in Afokang prison, Calabar.
 
Delivering judgement on Thursday, Justice Amobeda convicted all the defendants and sentenced each to one year imprisonment, with the option of N500,000 fine. He ordered that the convict "shall forfeit all the items recovered during arrest." The items are; 6 laptops, 12 sophisticated mobile phones, 1 International Passport, 4 Airtel Sim Packs, 3 MTN Sim Packs, 2 Glo Sim Packs,1 Smile Router and 2 Modems.
 

 
The convicts ran into trouble on September 2, 2019, when operatives of Uyo Zonal Office of the EFCC arrested them in a two bedroom apartment, located on 54 Church Road, off Calabar Itu Express Way, Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, following an intelligence report on their nefarious activities in the town.
 
During interogation, the suspects said the apartment which served as their home and office, was rented by the kingpin, Ebesike, for the purpose of training facebook hackers. Confessing to the crime, Ebesike who claimed to be a musician with the stage name 'Lawre Blue', gave a detailed account of how they carried out their operations on Facebook.
 

Quote:"I am into internet fraud. Part of how I operate is, I edit Facebook accounts, go to google and search for pictures of United State military personnel. I download some of these pictures and put them on the newly created facebook accounts. After doing that, I target foreigners, mostly old white women who are in need of men. I stay online all day trying to befriend them. After convincing them, I will make them apply for my leave so that I can see them", Ebesike confessed.

One of the charges reads, "That you Ebesike Lawrence Nnamdi 'm' on or about the 11th day of July, 2019 in Nigeria within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court did fraudulently impersonate one Cheng Chin Kiu,a purported United Nations Army to one Chunn Kang who resides in United States with intent to obtain money from the said Chunn Kang, a pretext you knew to be false and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 22 (2) (b) (ii) of the Cybercrimes (Prohibition and Prevention, etc) Act, 2015 and punishable under Section 22 (2) (b) (iv) of the same Act."
Another charge reads, "That you Enyinnaya Prince Udeh (Alias Palacio Olivia) 'm' on or about the 30th day of August, 2019 in Nigeria within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court did fraudulently impersonate one Palacio Olivia with intent to obtain money, property or any advantage from unsuspecting victims, the pretence you knew to be false and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 22 (2) (b) (ii) of the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, etc) Act, 2015 and punishable under Section 22 (2) (b) (iv) of the same Act."

Lagos Task Force arrests prostitutes at Mile 2 brothel (photos)






Some prostitutes have been paraded alongside others following their arrest by operatives of the Lagos State Environmental and Special Offences Enforcement Unit for alleged possession of illicit drugs on Friday September 27. 
 
The Lagos Task Force arrested the 9 prostitutes and 5 miscreants during a raid at a brothel around Mile 2 area of the state, after complaints of crimes reportedly committed by the miscreant.

Some of the items recovered from the suspects include mobile phones, laptop computers, and a Mercedes C350.

Similarly, the EFCC in Abuja on Thurs. Sept. 26, arrested another cybercrime suspect, Mbaeri Anselm Chukwuma at David Estate, Gwarimpa.

Items recovered from him include a Toyota Rav4, 2 laptops, 2 phones and a Pump Action Rifle with 2 Cartridges.

According to the EFCC, the suspects would be charged to court as soon as investigations are concluded.

The Enugu Zonal office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), on Thurs. Sept 26, raided two residential buildings at Maryland, Enugu where twenty Eight (28) suspected fraudsters were arrested.

According to the EFCC in a post on its Facebook page on Friday, the arrests followed some intelligence obtained by the Commission regarding activities of some people living ostentatiously without any known means of livelihood.

They were alleged to have specialized in defrauding many unsuspecting victims (within and outside the country) of huge sums of money through their nefarious operations.

“In the course of executing search at the residences of the suspects, many of them, including a female suspect, attempted destroying some phones found on them, as the female suspect was caught flushing a broken Iphone down the toilet. The phone was, however, recovered”, said the anti-graft agency.

Some items which were confiscated during the raid include: four (4) apple macbook, Two (2) Iphone, Xmax and other HP laptop computers.

Other items include: Two (2) Toyota Camry, four (4) Toyota Corolla and one (1) Mercedez Benz GL450 car.

The suspects who have volunteered statements under words of caution will be charged to court as soon as investigations into the matter are concluded, according to the EFCC.

Commenting, the Enugu Zonal Head of the EFCC, Usman Imam, said the prevalence of cyber-crime in the zone and involvement of very young Nigerians was not only alarming but has become a national catastrophe.

“We have a problem in our hands and we have to face it squarely. Personally, it is disheartening seeing young men and women being caught, prosecuted and convicted of crimes which could be avoided. But, they also have a role to play by consciously changing their mindset and shunning greed and peer pressure to commit crime”, he said.

Ambode: PDP makes accusations against Sanwo-Olu, APC

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Lagos State has condemned the recent protest at the state House of Assembly, calling for the probe of former Gov. Akinwunmi Ambode.
The PDP accused Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu led APC government of being behind the protests.

A statement by Mr Taofik Gani, Lagos PDP spokesperson on Thursday, said that the protest lacked sincerity of purpose and was obviously calculated at embarrassing the immediate past governor.
“Disturbing is the tendency of such protests to overheat the polity and increase the already created loss of confidence in the government,” the PDP said.
“The governor himself is sponsoring such protests against his predecessor, unfortunately overheating the polity and to distract Lagosians away from his abysmal performances.

“To the PDP, Governor Sanwo-Olu has created “Official Vendetta” in Lagos governance; unfortunately for him, his ranking is going down whilst he needlessly goes after his predecessor,” the statement said.

The PDP, however, called for a holistic probe of the administrations of Bola Tinubu, Raji Fashola and Akinwunmi Ambode, rather than restricting it only to Ambode’s regime.
“Lagosians are eager to know the stewardship of their former governors.

”From 1999 till 2018 over N17 trillion was realized as IGR, royalties, Federal Allocations, investments and crude oil discovery.

“Unfortunately, much of these monies are linked to Hotels, Airlines, Oil Companies, construction companies, home & Abroad,” the PDP said.

The Media Rights Agenda (MRA) and 49 other Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) have called on the United Nations (UN) and the African Union (AU) to intervene to secure the immediate release of Sahara Reporters publisher, Omoyele Sowore.
Sowore, a journalist and human rights activist, was arrested on 3 August 2019 after calling called for #RevolutionNow protest.

Mr Ayode Longe, MRA Programme Director said: “It is antithetical to the tenets of democracy to arrest a man who was merely exercising his constitutional right of assembly, association and expression and the height of impunity to continue to detain him even after a court of competent jurisdiction has granted him bail. The DSS must immediately and unconditionally release Sowore.”
Commenting on the charges, Nwachukwu Egbunike of Global Voices said: “Omoloye Sowore’s continued detention and the charges of treason affirm our position that this trial is merely a criminalisation of political dissent.

“We call on the Nigerian government to honour its own laws and the international treaties it is a signatory to. Sowore should be unconditionally released.”
Olúwádàre A. Kóláwolé of the Socio-Economic Rights & Accountability Project (SERAP), said: “Sowore’s case and several similar cases instigated by state governors make a hideous mockery of Nigeria’s criminal justice systems, rule of law, freedom of expression and media freedom.

A former spiritual leader of Pastor Biodun Fatoyinbo, founder of Commonwealth of Zion Assembly, COZA, Reverend Emmanuel Oset, has revealed why he ended his relationship with the controversial clergyman.
Oset, who is the Senior Pastor of Canan Ministry in Ilorin, Kwara State disclosed that he ended his relationship with Fatoyinbo due to allegations of adultery leveled against the COZA pastor by his former church member Ese Walters in 2013.
He made the revelation while reacting to the rape allegation against Fatoyinbo by wife of popular singer, Timi Dakolo, Busola Dakolo.
Speaking on Arise Television yesterday, Oset disclosed that he became Fatoyinbo’s spiritual mentor after the COZA pastor reached out to him to pray for him and he became his spiritual father.
According to Oset: “I had been Fatoyinbo’s spiritual mentor for years and have had to wade in when similar allegations were made against him.

“I investigated and the evidence against him was overwhelming but at the end, he promised that he would change.
“I had to cut off from him after a member of his church accused him in 2013 of having an extramarital affair.
“When that incident happened, I called him and told him that I wanted us to talk, but he kept avoiding me for many months.
“From August 2013 to April 2014, I kept putting pressure on him to come so we could discuss the issue but he avoided me. So I had to write him a letter telling him that I was no longer interested in being his mentor.”

'Stop begging for government appointments' - Rotimi Amaechi tells women in the maritime industry






Rotimi Amaechi, the Minister of Transportation has urged women in the maritime industry to stop peddling gender inequality as the reason they don’t get appointments in Nigeria, rather he urged them to focus on building their competence and lifting one another.  
 
Delivering his keynote address at the 2019 World Maritime Day celebration with the theme: “Empowering Women In The Maritime Community,” in Lagos on Thursday, September 26th, Amaechi said the appointments were not about gender but about the class one belongs.    
 
According to him, women can only get appointments if they merit it.

AGF Abubakar Malami fails to defend Buhari's coup and call for revolution, but justifies charging Sowore with treason and insulting the President (video)






The Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami failed to defend President Buhari's 1983 coup and call for revolution in 2011 but justified charging Omoyele Sowore with treason and insulting the President when quizzed about the continous detention of the #RevolutionNow convener. 
 
In a “Focus on Africa” BBC interview, the AGF was questioned on the motive of detaining Omoyele Sowore over the call for revolution.

And to our (the government’s) mind, that constitutes a treasonable felony."

House of Representatives Speaker, Femi Gbajabiamila has blamed Nigeria's socio-economic misfortune in the power sector on public officer holders who according to him are unpatriotic. 
 
Speaking at the commencement of the investigative hearing into the federal government’s abandoned power projects from 1999 to date in which he was represented by Chief Whip Mohammed Monguno (APC-Borno), the speaker stated that the issues in the power sector persists because public officers are not patriotic enough in the discharge of their responsibilities to the nation.

Benue state government reveals the identity of 11 young men killed and buried by kidnappers 






Police in Benue State recently uncovered hidden graves in Gbatse village with 11 bodies of people suspected to have been killed by kidnappers in Ushongo Local Government Area of the state.
 
The Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Catherine Anene, told journalists in Makurdi that one suspect was arrested, adding that “as soon as we conclude interrogating him, we will give out the full information".  
 
It was gathered that the suspect, a gang leader of kidnap and armed robbery syndicate, was arrested following a tip-off by members of the community. The suspect and his gang were alleged to have killed their victims and buried them after collecting their motorcycles in order to conceal their crime and to avoid arrest.
 
The ringleader of the syndicate group, identified as Iorwuese Kpila, alias Dr. Kwagh Akoronmenenge, was arrested with six other members of his syndicate. According to police authorities, the hideout of Kpila is located at a hilltop surrounded by some thatch houses and a shrine.  
 
Speaking with journalists in Ushongo at the site of the incident, Governor Samuel Ortom said, “We will get to the root of kidnapping in the state. They will be fished out to face the law. All kidnappers in flash point local councils, including Vandeikya, Logo, Ukum, Kwande, and Katsina-Ala will be apprehended. My government will not surrender the state to criminals."

Skydiver dies after crash landing into a trailer on a California highway






A skydiver has been killed after she crash-landed on a big trailer along a Northern California highway. 
 
According to California Highway Patrol PIO Ruben Jones, the 28-year-old woman was skydiving with a group of seven people around 2 p.m. Thursday, September 26th.
 
The group took off from the Lodi Parachute Center but conditions were windy, and the woman crashed into the truck during the skydiving group's descent near the Lodi Airport. Then, she hit the right-hand shoulder of the road.
 

 
The unidentified woman was pronounced dead at the scene. The other six people in the group survived. The California Highway Patrol is currently investigating the incident.

Then both of them started going back and forth, then the guys too faced themselves like they were fighting too, saying they also want highlights....but the ladies still found a way to get our attention with their rants...

Two robbers killed during gun battle with police in Lagos






A gun battle between a gang of robbers and some policemen on Monday September 23, led to the tragic end of two members of the gang who robbed early road users around Alakija on the Badagry Expressway. 
 
The robbers that hijacked a commercial bus and robbed its passengers of their phones around 5am reportedly opened fire on the police officers that arrived the scene after a tip-off, to evade arrest. 
 

Quote:“Policemen retaliated and in the process two of the robbers died while the third one, Quadri Suleiman sustained leg injury. They are notorious in Sattelite, Tolu and environs. These boys operate up to Ajegunle and they terrorise people,” he said.

15 ABU staff sacked for sexual harassment, others






15 staff of Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria were on Thursday August 26 sacked by the management of the institution over offences which centered on sexual harassment, negligence of duty and corruption.
 
The sacked ABU staff are reportedly from different departments and faculties in the institution and they were handed their dismissal lettter after its approval by the university’s Governing Council during two separate meetings.
 
Director of ABU’s Public Affairs, Dr Sama’ila Shehu who confirmed the incident said not all the affected staff are lecturers. 
 

Quote: “Not all of them are lecturers but they are ABU staff members. A total of 15 workers were affected. The offences range from mishandling of records, scripts to sexual harassment and assault" he said. 

Kano father chains, locks up his 16-year-old daughter for two years because she rejected forced marriage (video)






Operatives of the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons, NAPTIP, have arrested a 62-year-old man in Kano State for chaining and locking up 16-year-old daughter, Fatima, for rejecting forced marriage.
 
According to reports, the suspect Muhammad Ujujud, a resident of Rinji village in Madobi Local Government Area of the state locked up the teenager as punishment for refusing to accept a husband he forced on her.
 
It was gathered that the man also locked his son Shehu, in separate cells in his house. Unfortunately, the boy died in detention recently.
 
A member of the community who secretly leaked the story to journalists explained that the man was notorious for meting out corporal punishment on his family and he was dreaded in the village.
 
According to the locals, Mr Ujudud only rarely fed his captive children with food. “He hardly gave them food to eat. The sleep and defecate in just one point,” said a neighbor who preferred not to be named.
 
Appearing pale and ill, NAPTIP officials then took Binta to a private hospital in Kano, where she is currently receiving treatments.
 
In an interview with DAILY NIGERIAN reporter, one of the sons of Mr Ujudud who fled his father’s way of punishment, confirmed that his brother Shehu starved to death in captivity.
 
He added that his mother died few years ago and his father is now living with their step mother.
 
The state commandant of NAPTIP, Shehu Umar, who confirmed the arrest and detention, said investigation is currently ongoing.

He added: "The only thing I told Sowore was that he needed a bit more time to take people along. You can't do revolution on the people's behalf. You have to do your revolution with the people."
 
He went on to say that he can never accept a political appointment from the current administration.
 
The Grammy nominee said: "I can't take a political appointment in an oppressive system."


He continued: "There's a Yoruba proverb that says that the only discussion the cockroach and the chicken can have is inside the stomach of the chicken."

Police Special Squad On routine patrol rescued a little girl wandering about with a polythene bag containing her bag.

She was picked up around the Aguleri Road axis in Anambra State On Thursday morning.

From the content of the bag she was rescued with, it is evident that the innocent girl was abandoned as all attempts to identify or reach out to her parents or guardian proved abortive.

As at the time of filing this report, news have gone round to certify if it is a missing child issue but no favorable response has being received.

On Wednesday, September 25, at 10:00 am, 32-year-old Ugwuanyi Kingsley Ugonna went to the Investigation and Procedure Office at the Immigration Department in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, asking for help to send him back to Nigeria.

The Nigerian man travelled to Cambodia as a tourist on September 29, 2015, through Phnom Penh International Airport. He worked as an English teacher and stayed in a rented house in Chom Chao area.

His visa expired on June 17, 2017, and since then, he wasn't able to raise enough money to renew his visa, so he decided to go to the Cambodian immigration authorities to ask them to send him home.

Ugonna was therefore sent to the Immigration Department to follow the legal procedure.

DON’T CONFORM TO THE HUMAN NATURE


I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God that you may know that you have eternal life (1 John 5:13 ESV).

I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God that you may know that you have eternal life (1 John 5:13 ESV). Being born again, you have the life and nature of God in you; therefore, you’re not an ordinary person. 2 Peter 1:4 says,

“Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature….”

Some Christians refer to themselves as “ordinary human beings,” feigning some kind of humility, but that’s sad. As long as you believe, confess, and act on that statement, you’re conforming to the human nature. Whereas, your human nature was supplanted by God’s divine nature the moment you were born again.

2 Corinthians 5:17 says, “Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.” You’re a new creature, with a new life—the divine life—not the human life. The life in you now is no longer by blood, but by the Spirit.

The Bible says the life of the flesh is in the blood (Leviticus 17:11). But Romans 8:8-9 says, “So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God….” But read the concluding part; it says, “But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit….”

Being born of the Spirit, you’re sustained by the Spirit; He’s the life of your physical body. Romans 8:11 says, “But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you.”

Now you can further understand when the Bible says in John 1:12- 13, “But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name: Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.” Become more conscious of the God-life in you, and give expression to your divine nature in Christ.

CONFESSION

I have the life of God in me, and I walk in the consciousness of this reality. There’s no death in my path, because I’m the embodiment of life, born of the Spirit, to rule and reign as a king over circumstances. Blessed be God!

Five notorious self-confessed kidnappers who have been terrorising residents of Ibarapa area of Oyo State have been arrested, the state police said.

Last week, the Chairman, Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP), Oyo State College of Agriculture and Technology Igbo-Ora, Mr. Opadijo Olujide, together with his secretary, Gbenga Alayande and three others were kidnapped in the Ibarapa area, but were later released by their captors 24 hours after, on the payment of N5m ransom.

Though, the police could not immediately link the five kidnappers with the abduction of the lecturers, they said investigation was ongoing on the latest arrest to know if they were the same people who masterminded the kidnap of the lecturers.

The criminal elements, according to the state police command, were arrested while arranging for ransom for one of their kidnapped victms, a 17-year-old boy, Shakiru Weti.

They were all paraded yesterday along with N1million cash (the ransom) recovered from them, at the Eleyele Police Headquarters, Ibadan.

The Commissioner of Police in the State, Shina Olukolu who thanked the people of Ibarapa for their understanding and support, said the kidnappers engaged the police officers in a gun duel when they laid siege to rescue the victim.

According to the police boss, the family members were encouraged to agree to pay the amount demanded, while the police detectives laid ambush for the suspected kidnappers.

But Falana said he personally served the order and the notice of compliance by his client on the DSS.

“First of all, their lawyer was in court. And he heard the order when it was made. As a legal practitioner, he had an obligation to inform his client. Secondly, since Sowore was to be released to me, I have been going to the DSS office personally since Tuesday.

“We were not directed to serve them. But we did that for the avoidance of doubt. We submitted his passports, got the affidavit of compliance and I personally served them. I also sent the copies to the DSS DG through his phone line, because I have his personal phone line.

“We were there for hours. The head of the legal department pleaded with me to return today (Thursday). When I returned, they locked the DSS gates against me,” Mr Falana said.

The lawyer added that the information indicating compliance had been reported in both local and international media stressing that the least a truly law abiding institution would do in such circumstance was to send its lawyers to verify the reports.

“I’m not sure the person who is making this statement has the authorisation of his principals. We have filed the form 48 regarding the contempt of court. And in that form, the court order was also included.

“The DSS has a duty to comply with this order and not only this one, but every other order regarding the liberty of Nigerians, because this is a constitutional democracy,” Mr Falana said.

Woman jailed for 13 years after she cut off her boyfriend's penis because he shared their sex tape






A woman has been sentenced to 13 years in prison for cutting off her boyfriend's penis during sex because he shared their sex tapes with friends.
 
Brenda Barattini, 28,  chopped off the penis of Sergio Fernandez, 42, two years ago and was recently found guilty of attempted murder and sentenced to 13 years behind bars.
 
The accountant confessed she had planned the attack on November 25, 2017, but said she had not intended to kill her former boyfriend.
 

 
Her trial in Cordoba, Argentina, heard how Barattini cut through 90 per cent of musician Sergio’s penis with garden shears after blindfolding him and performing a sex act on him.
 
She told the court she had planned to carry out revenge on her then-boyfriend because he had been sharing X-rated pictures and videos of her, claiming he treated her like a "trophy".
 
She told a jury of four men and four women: "It violated my privacy, my life and my career."
 
Narrating how he was attacked, Sergio told the court: "After she put the blindfold on she told me I had to guess where she was touching me.
 
"She also wanted to tie me up but I didn’t let her. She began to practice oral sex on me. I suddenly felt something. She wanted to kill me in that second."
 
Sergio was rescued by neighbours and spent eight days in a coma.
 
After her arrest, Barattini initially claimed she had been defending herself from a sexual assault by Sergio. She later changed her story and admitted she had carried out the attack in revenge.
 
Barattini is expected to appeal the sentence at a later date. Defence lawyer Lucas de Olmos claims the decision of the court was "unheard of" in Argentina.
 
The lawyer said: "No-one has ever been convicted in this country of attempted murder for a penis wound."

Kaduna State police rescue 300 chained persons from alleged Islamic centre (Photos)






The Kaduna State Police on Thursday, September 26th raided a home, where they discovered 300 persons chained together in Rigasa, Igabi Local Government Area of the state.  The policemen said they unchained the 300 people, including children.    
 
The Police said the victims were from Burkina Faso, Mali and other African countries. The Police said the children had confessed to being sexually abused. The adults reportedly said they were subjected to daily recitation of the Holy Quran and prayers, allegedly accompanied with torture.  With chains on their legs and scars of injuries from suspected torture, the victims reportedly said their rescue, on Thursday, amount to “liberation from slavery.”  

One of the victims who identified himself as Bello Hamza, 42, alleged that he was “tricked to the centre” by his family who wanted to take over his share of their common inheritance.

National Organising Secretary of the party, Oshiokhue Ikpeminoghena, disclosed this on while condemning the refusal of the Department of State Services to release its National Chairman, Omoyele Sowore.
 
Ikpeminoghena said the refusal of the Nigerian Government in complying with the Federal High Court order on Tuesday directing the immediate release of Sowore on bail by the DSS as an invitation to uprising.

EFCC seals hotel, three houses owned by two suspected fraudsters






A hotel, 2 completed houses and a building under construction which are believed to be proceeds of crime by two suspected fraudsters, Godspower Eleadi and Ohwerhi Ahmed have been sealed by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Benin Zonal Office. 
 
The suspects were described as 'pickers' as they specialise in receiving money on behalf of internet fraudsters.  Ahmed is said to be on the run while Eleadi was arrested at his hideout in Sapele by operatives of the Commission. The arrested suspect has made useful confessions and will soon be charged to court.

Eleadi was arrested in his hideout in Sapele by operatives of the Commission.
Eleadi modus operandi is to send his account details to would be victims of internet fraudsters to transfer their funds. Sometimes, he also solicit for buyers of foreign currency whose account he forward to would be victims of internet fraudsters. Once the victim transfers the money to them, he receives the naira equivalent from them, take his percentage and forward the balance to the internet fraudsters.
The suspect who has made useful statement, will be charged to court as soon as investigation is completed.

Obasanjo Visits President Ramaphosa Of South Africa.



 

Nigeria’s former president, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo has paid a courtesy visit to South Africa’s president Cyril Ramaphosa.

He presented the latest book he co-authored titled “Democracy Works: Rewiring Politics to Africa’s Advantage”, to the South African leader.

President Ramaphosa thanked the former President for working hard and still having the energy to write and contribute to current debates about the development of Africa.



The two leaders also used the opportunity to reflect on recent events in South Africa which saw more than four hundred Nigerians voluntarily evacuated from the country.

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) on Thursday said it has recovered three ambulances and a 500KVA Transformer which are Constituency Project items from Sen. Buruji Kashamu.

The agency said the items were part of 2016 Constituency Projects meant to be distributed to Ogun East Senatorial District.

The items were discovered at his Constituency Project Office in Ijebu Ode, Ogun State.

A statement by the Spokesperson for the Commission, Mrs. Rasheedat A. Okoduwa, mni, said the commission uncovered the items following intelligence alert by a concerned citizen.

The statement said: “The three ambulances which were procured at the cost of N6m each, were meant to be supplied to Obada Healthcare Centre, Oke Sopin in Ijebu North Local Government Area; Community Health Centre, Itele in Ijebu East Local Government Area; and Community Health Centre, Ogijo in Sagamu Local Government Area respectively.

“The transformer is the last of an initial eleven meant for distribution to various communities of Ogun East Senatorial District which were procured at the cost of N3.6m each, bringing the total for the entire eleven transformers to N39.5m.

“The commission received intelligence about the items from a concerned citizen who became aware of the commission’s Constituency Project Tracking Group initiative which exercise has so far covered 12 states of the federation.

“The recovered items were seized and the vehicles were moved to a Police Station while the 500KVA Transformer was marked with the Commission’s seizure seal and in the interim, kept in the custody of the Manager of the Senator’s office.
