Impact of the Solid Minerals Development Fund (SMDF) is yet to be felt in the industry, despite its rejiging as many issues continue to constitute setbacks to the sector.

Head, Advisory and Mining Sector Lead, PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) Nigeria, Cyril Azobu, who stated this, also said commercial banks had remained doubtful and continued to see the industry as high risk. In addition, the existence of multiple regulations is reducing investor confidence as the cost and requirements have contributed to a seeming lack of interest in the industry.

Established by the 2007 Mining Act and inaugurated in 2013, the Solid Minerals Development Fund (SMDF) had struggled to take off, despite its good intentions.

The government’s goal is for the solid minerals sector to contribute three per cent to the gross domestic product (GDP) by 2025, currently, it contributes less than half a per cent.

Objectives of the SMDF are to develop human and physical capital; geo-scientific data gathering, storage, and retrieval; the purchase of equipment by state-owned mining institutions; the provision of infrastructure; and the provision of extension services to small-scale and artisanal mining operations.

It is expected to catalyse the minerals sector mainly by providing access to financial resources and training and by formalising the status of artisanal miners, this activity is envisaged as a way to reach the three-percent target. The first solid minerals roadmap, developed in 2015, had the objective of raising the sector’s contribution to the gross domestic product (GDP) to five percent by 2015, and 10 percent by 2020. Unfortunately, this target proved to be unattainable, and it was lowered to three percent by 2025.

Azobu told The Nation in Lagos that data, which was at the heart of the industry was not robust enough to support investment inflows and key infrastructure such as access roads, dedicated rail lines, power, among others remain a challenge.

He, however, expressed optimism that if the government maintained the drive and make the right choices, the solid minerals sector could contribute up to three per cent of GDP by 2025 as predicted in the roadmap, up from a current contribution of just about 0.5 per cent.

Azobu agreed that there had been some notable achievements in the sector in the last few years. For instance, there have been efforts to improve the sector’s regulatory framework with enactment of new laws and establishment of the National Council of Mining and Mineral Resources Development.

Notably, the Nigerian Institute of Mining and Geo-sciences, Jos (Establishment) Act was assented to by the President in November 2018 for training of manpower for the sector and research. In addition, the Federal Government in the same year presented a roadmap for the “Development of Nigeria’s Industrial Minerals”, developed by the World Bank-assisted Mineral Sector Support for Economic Diversification (MinDiver) Project. Also, the National Gold development efforts saw the issuance of the first gold refining licence in the year.

Furthermore, efforts to curb illegal mining had been ramped up by the provision of surveillance vehicles for mine inspectors across the country, and increased inter-agency co-operation.

“The ministry has also continued on its journey to transform its processes by digitising some of its key activities,” Azobu said, adding that efforts were ongoing to automate the ministry’s activities with the provision of geographic information system (Egis) web portal and electronic submission of licences, permits and certificates to improve efficiency and speed-up the processing of transactions.

GIS is a framework for gathering, managing, and analysing data. Imbedded in the science of geography, GIS integrates many types of data. It analyses spatial location and organises layers of information into visualisations using maps and 3D scenes.

Azobu said: “This has become even more critical in the light of the African Continental Free Trade Area Agreement (AfCFTA) Agreement coming into force.”

According to him, the fixation on extraction and exporting of raw minerals and ores at the expense of value addition is a big disservice especially as Nigeria continues to depend on importation of finished products.

This, he stated, had further worsened by other African countries potentially taking advantage of the AfCFTA to invade our economy. “We must assess how competitive Nigeria will be against other more developed mining territories on the continent,” he added.

‘How refineries can function optimally’

Over the years, Federal Government-owned refineries have suffered neglect, resulting in their inability to process crude at their installed capacities, despite efforts by the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) to put them back into shape. However, experts say the refineries can still function optimally once NNPC is able to garner enough funds, build expertise and ensure the passage of the Petroleum Industry Governance Bill (PIGB), among others, writes AKINOLA AJIBADE

The Group Managing Director, Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Mallam Mele Kyari, seems to have hit the ground running with his plans to fix the four state-owned refineries by 2023, and return them to their combined capacity of 445,000 barrels of crude oil daily.

The refineries are Warri Refinery and Petrochemical Company (WRPC), Kaduna Petrochemical Refinery Company (KPRC) and Port Harcourt Refineries 1 & 2.

The plans include the establishment of condensate refineries to fast-track the supply of petroleum products across the country, supporting Dangote Petrochemical Refineries to actualise its dream of processing 650,000 barrels of crude daily and other private investors in the refinery business, in addition to ensuring that Nigeria becomes a net exporter of fuel globally.

Expectedly, the plans were greeted with applause by stakeholders who believed the idea would open a vista of opportunities for the refineries, which are on the verge of collapse, due to several years of neglect by various governments.

Against this backdrop, there is the need to consider salient issues that border on the establishment of refineries by the Federal Government.

Cost of refineries

The refineries were estimated to have cost the government about $1.5 billion in the 70s and 80s, as the project were spread over time. Of note is that the refineries have become the most-prized national assets in Nigeria, despite their inability to process sufficient fuel for the daily running of the economy.

With the exchange rate at N350 per dollar, the cost of putting a refinery in place is expected to be much higher. The former Managing Director, Nigerian Liquefied and Natural Gas (NLNG) Limited, Mr Godswill Ihetu, said refineries are multi-billion dollar projects and, as such, cannot be allowed to waste by any government that places the welfare of its citizens as a priority. The investment, he said, runs into billions of dollar and the government cannot afford to do away with it.

Challenges

Problems, such as bureaucratic bottlenecks, poor corporate governance, shortage of funds and obsolete equipment, are believed to have hindered the refineries from good performance.

Others are lack of reforms in the industry and difficulties in getting suitable partners to repair the refineries.

The Director, Energy Information Division, Centre for Energy Studies, Nigeria, Prof Omowunmi Iledare, told The Nation that the inability of the stakeholders, including the Federal Government, to reform the oil and gas sector has caused a drawback to the refineries.

He said lack of reforms has prevented the sector from having a clear-cut policy on the operation of some aspects that are key to its growth, adding that the issue makes monitoring of the sector difficult for the NNPC and other regulators in the industry.

According to him, NNPC and other institutions saddled with supervising the industry depend on political expediency, adding that the issue was preventing them to use what he described as ‘rational economic decision determinants’ to stimulate growth in the industry.

This, he said, was affecting the revenue base of the refineries and other areas. “The great barrier to the attainment of economy of scale in the petroleum industry is political interference, adding that the issue is affecting growth across the value chain,” he said.

Maintenance

The Federal Government has spent $1.6 billion on turnaround maintenance (TAM) of the refineries in the past 15 years. The figure, the immediate past Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Dr. Ibe Kachikwu, said was ridiculous in view of the state of the economy, adding that the cost of maintaining the refineries should be reviewed downward to grow the economy well.

Kachikwu, who spoke at a stakeholders’ forum in Lagos, advocated the timely repair of the refineries to end fuel import.

Similarly, the Southwest Chairman, National Union of Petroleum and Gas Workers Union (NUPENG), Mr. Tayo Aboyeji, said the billions of dollars spent on the maintenance of the refineries was ridiculous. The Federal Government, he said, should try and fix the refineries, adding that the cost of maintaining the refineries was too high. By fixing the refineries, he said, the country would have enough fuel for its citizens, adding that fuel importation was killing the economy.

Dormant refineries

Some of the refineries are dormant, a development which requires urgent attention to put them back into use. In fact, the output of the refineries have continued to plummet as they posted losses for nine consecutive months, the NNPC has said.

Findings from NNPC’s latest monthly financial and operational report showed the refineries recorded continuous monthly losses from May, last year to January, this year. Further analyses by the NNPC report showed that since January, last year, only Warri Refinery Petrochemical Company was able to make profits in February (N127.91million) and Augus, last year (N578.16million).

The report showed that Kaduna Refinery and Petrochemical Company (KRPC) posted the highest loss of N374 billion for January 2019 as it stayed dormant and failed to refine any crude from January 2018 to January, this year.

The Port Harcourt Refinery recorded loss of N2.11 billion in January 2011 and the refinery was idle from July 2018 to January this year as it could not refine a drop of crude for seven months.

Also, WRPC lost N2.513 billion in January 2019 but the report showed that of the four refineries managed by NNPC, only Warri refinery was able to process some volume of crude oil from January, last year to January this year. In January, this year, Warri refinery processed 104.459 metric tonnes of crude and posted capacity utilisation of 19.76 per cent.

Way forward

Experts said Nigeria is fuel-dependent; as a result, it uses the product for domestic and industrial activities. Nigeria consumes an estimated 35 million litres of fuel daily as against 50-60 million litres before the Federal Government shut its borders to countries, such as Benin Republic, Ghana, Togo, and Niger in the sub-region where the product was allegedly smuggled to.

Ihetu said it is imperative that NNPC shop for investors to improve the production from the refineries. NNPC, Ihetu said, must put in place structures that allow corporate governance to thrive, adding that the idea would help in developing the refineries better. “Lack of good corporate governance has impacted negatively on the operation of the refineries owned 100 per cent by the Federal Government,” he added.

Iledare urged the government to reduce interference in the control of oil business. When this happens, operators would not lack the petroleum policy framework needed to survive in the sector.

“Once the industry is freed from political interference, operators would be able to work well. Operators would be able to guide themselves by the provisions of the PIGB. With the PIGB, there would be distinctions between policy, regulatory and commercial functions,” he said.

He said selling the refineries in their current state is not the best option, arguing that the country would benefit when the refineries are fixed. “Selling or repairing the refineries should be a technical board decision not a management or ministerial decision, but if NNPC goes ahead to fix the refineries, the better for the country. In future, NNPC can leverage the refineries to achieve more growth,” he said.

The Managing Partner, Zenera Consulting, Mr Meka Olowola, said the plans by NNPC to fix the refineries by 2023 could only be feasible when the country and the industry, in particular, were rid of the challenges facing them. Factors responsible for the continuous interruptions in the industry must be dealt with first before the refineries are fixed, he added..

The problems, he said, include lakaidasical attitude of those in government and poor corporate governance, adding that the problems have resulted in the deterioration of facilities, pipelines vandalism that supply crude to the refineries and government’s inconsistent regulatory approach.

The government, Olowola said, needs to put a better performance to stop irate youths from destroying pipelines and other facilities if the refineries should operate well in the country.

“Refineries are set up to produce specified quantities of agreed products. If for whatever reason, operations are interrupted and they are unable to achieve production goals, the aims have been defeated. To prevent this from happening, when the refineries are fixed, the government has to put up a good performance with a view to stop the operation of the so-called vandals,” he added.

Contracts for the surveillance, Olowola said, must be given to the right firms, adding that the idea would help in gaining the confidence of the communities in which the oil facilities are located.

Saudi attack threat to global oil industry

The attack on two major oil facilities in Saudi Arabia may be a pointer to an emerging trend that may adversely upset global energy security, if not swiftly checked. There are speculations that the incident may be a cross-border attack which may be seen from the prism of terrorism. EMEKA UGWUANYI looks at the incident.

The global oil and gas industry was taken aback with the report of attacks on two major oil facilities by drones in the early hours of last Saturday in Saudi Arabia.

Saudi Arabian local news network – Al Arabiya – had reported that two oil processing centres in Abqaiq and Khurais were attcked before dawn on Saturday, noting that the Saudi Interior Ministry reported fires at the two centres, which were later put off.

According to reports, Yemen’s Houthi rebels, funded for years by Iran, claimed responsibility for the bombing while another report claimed the missiles or drones were launched from Iraq. However, a Houthi spokesman, Brig.-Gen. Yahya Sare’e, reportedly said the group’s forces “carried out a massive offensive operation of 10 drones targeting Abqaiq and Khurais refineries but he did not specifically say that they launched the drones from Yemen. Houthi movement is an Islamic political and armed organisation that seeks greater autonomy for Houthi majority regions in Yemen.

Yemen’s state-controlled press claims Houthi rebels have been trained in Iranian-run camps.

Reacting to the Saudi oil facilities attack, the United States President Donald Trump had said the US is “locked and loaded” and ready to respond to attacks on petroleum processing facilities in Saudi Arabia, as US officials said the evidence pointed to Iranian involvement.

The US President did not mention Iran, but wrote on Twitter that he had “reason to believe that we know the culprit” behind the series of attacks on the Abqaiq facility, which is the world’s largest petroleum processing plant. The attacks disrupted more than half of the kingdom’s oil output and will affect global supplies.

Trump tweeted: “(We) are locked and loaded depending on verification, but are waiting to hear from the Kingdom (of Saudi Arabia) as to who they believe was the cause of this attack and under what terms we would proceed!”

The US government has produced satellite photos showing what officials said were at least 19 points of impact on Saturday at the two Saudi energy facilities, including damage at the heart of the kingdom’s crucial oil processing plant at Abqaiq. Officials told US media the photos showed impacts consistent with the attacks coming from the direction of Iran or Iraq, rather than from Yemen to the south. Iraq denied that its territory was used for an attack on the kingdom. US officials said a strike from there would be a violation of Iraq’s sovereignty.

The US officials said additional devices, which apparently didn’t reach their targets, were recovered northwest of the facilities and were being jointly analysed by Saudi and American intelligence. The officials, who spoke on condition of anonymity, did not address whether the weapons could have been fired from Yemen, then taken a round-about path, but did not explicitly rule it out. As a result of the attack oil price rose by almost $12 a barrel to $71.95 on Monday.

In reaction to Trump’s comment, a senior commander from Iran’s Revolutionary Guards warned that the Islamic republic was ready for “full-fledged” war. “Everybody should know that all American bases and their aircraft carriers in a distance of up to 2,000km around Iran are within the range of our missiles,” the head of the Revolutionary Guards Corps’ aerospace force, Amirali Hajizadeh, was quoted as saying by the semi-official Tasnim news agency.

However, Saudi de facto ruler Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman has said the kingdom was “willing and able” to respond to this “terrorist aggression.”

Reports say Saudi Arabia’s oilfields and pipelines have been targeted by rebels over the past year but never on such a scale and causing such disruption. Analysts warned that global supplies of oil are likely to suffer a “major jolt” following the attack. Aramco said the attacks would cut output by 5.7 million barrels daily, more than five per cent of global crude supply.

Although Aramco’s Chief Executive Officer, Amin Nasser, said work was underway to restore production and that it would take weeks to return to full production capacity at the damaged facilities.

Looking beyond Saudi attack

According to industry analysts, the attack on Saudi oil facilities should be a concern to the global energy industry. They noted that oil producing countries should not jubilate over the increase in crude price necessitated by the attacks as there would be energy crisis should such attack be carried out on two more major oil producers simultaneously. To them, the sudden rise in crude price, especially if caused by incidents such as the Saudi attacks, will have long-term negative impact on the global economy. Therefore, there should be collective concerted efforts to prevent such attacks in all oil producing country.

“If this incident is not tackled frontally to prevent future occurrence not just in Saudi but in all oil producing country through a collective effort, the perpetrators may extend it to other oil producing country and that will have damaging ripple effect. Every effort must be made to stop terrorist attack in any form on oil facilities. Oil is central to efficient global activities, therefore, besides astronomic rise in price, attacks on oil facilities especially cross-border attacks that target large facilities have to be nipped in the bud.

“Remember that Saudi Arabia used to have the world’s largest oil reserves before it was overtaken by Venezuela in 2011. Currently, Venezuela is in crisis and most of this reserves are shut-in. Venezuela as at 2011 had reserves of more than 300 billion of proven reserves. Saudi Arabia’s reserves were 269 billion barrels as January of 2016. Also Iran and Iraq are among the world’s top oil reserves holders with 158 billion barrels and 143 billion barrels as at 2016.

“In terms of daily production, according to statistics from the Energy Information Administration (EIA) at the end of last year, Saudi Arabia’s daily oil production was 12,419,000 barrels. Although United States’ daily output was more at 17,886,000 barrels per day, its consumption was more at 19.88 million barrels daily. Therefore, any major attack on one more big producers will create a major supply gap.”

Delta invests US$2m on feasibility to produce biofuel

AS part of its ongoing commitment to sustainability, Delta Air Lines is investing $2 million to partner with Northwest Advanced Bio-fuels, LLC (NWABF) for the feasibility study of a biofuel production facility to produce sustainable aviation fuel and other biofuel products.

The sustainable aviation fuel, expected to be produced in a facility in Washington State, could be used in Delta operations at stations in Seattle, Portland, San Francisco and Los Angeles. NWABF’s project would utilize wood residue deposits and wood slash lying on forest floors to produce the biofuel, which would qualify under an approved carbon-reducing pathway recognized by the American Society of Testing and Materials (ASTM). NWABF plans first delivery of the fuel by the end of 2023.

“While Delta continues to take actions toward our long-term goal of reducing carbon emissions by 50 percent by 2050, fuel is a key area where we are examining opportunities to create real sustainability differences and drive accountability across the entire business as we lower our environmental impact,” said Alison Lathrop, Delta’s Managing Director — Global Environment, Sustainability and Compliance.

Delta expects the feasibility study to be complete by the middle of 2020. At that time, Delta will evaluate the next steps in moving forward with the project’s development.

“This single project could provide approximately 10 percent of Delta’s annual jet fuel consumption in the West Coast region and, if successful, could become the blueprint for future projects to support Delta’s goal to further reduce its carbon footprint,” said Graeme Burnett, Delta’s Senior Vice President — Fuel Management. “This project has additional environmental benefits because it reduces wood residuals in forests, which can increase potential fire hazards and inhibit future tree growth.”

“We are excited to partner with Delta Air Lines in lowering the airline’s carbon footprint and supporting Delta’s sustainability strategy,” said Dave Smoot, Head of Northwest Advanced Bio-Fuels, LLC. “This project combines proven technologies to produce exceptional quality sustainable aviation fuel on a large scale from renewable feedstock resources.”

“Our research demonstrates that using forest harvest residuals to produce sustainable aviation fuels, not only reduces emissions from the aviation sector but also provides for much needed jobs in the rural and timber-dependent regions of the Pacific Northwest,” said Michael Wolcott, co-director of the Northwest Advanced Renewables Alliance (NARA) and professor at Washington State University.

The House of Representatives has asked the Central Bank of Nigeria CBN to suspend the charges imposed on cash deposits in the implementation of its cashless policy.

The order for the suspension of the policy was issued during plenary today eptember 19th. Recall that in a circular released on Tuesday September 17th, the CBN directed all deposit money banks in the country to charge 3% processing fees for withdrawals and 2% for deposits of amounts above N500,000 for individual accounts. The apex bank also directed that all corporate account holders will be charged 5% processing fees for withdrawals and 3% for deposits of amounts above N3 million.

At the plenary session today, the lawmakers said the policy, if allowed, will lead to a significant decrease in credit extension by Nigerian money deposit banks. The lawmakers also said the policy will have negative impacts on small and medium enterprises “which are clearly the engine room for growth of the economy”.

Calls for the suspension was contained in a motion unanimously adopted during Thursday’s plenary, which was moved by Chairman of the House Committee on Media and Public Affairs, Benjamin Kalu. The motion was entitled, ‘Need to Suspend the Implementation of the Cashless Policy on Deposits by the Central Bank of Nigeria.’

Adopting the motion, the lawmakers resolved to urge the CBN to “suspend the implementation of the cashless policy on deposits which has taken effect from Wednesday, 18th September, 2019, until appropriate and extensive consultative process is concluded.”

They also resolved to mandate the House Committee on Banking and Currency to interface with the CBN to “ascertain the propriety, relevance and the actual need for the implementation of that aspect of the cashless policy at this time, considering the prevailing economic situation of the country and to report back to the House within four weeks.”

MC Oluomo reacts to backlash he received over his invitation to speak in UNILAG

Musiliu Akinsanya aka MC Oluomo who is the Chairman of the National Union of Road Transport Workers, has reacted to the backlash he received over his invitation to speak at a programme in the University of Lagos UNILAG.

MC Oluomo was invited by the National Association of Geography Students, UNILAG chapter to give a speech at their function today September 19th but the invitation was greeted with widespread criticism. Many Nigerians felt that MC Oluomo who is not educated, should not be given a platform in a citadel of learning such as the University of Lagos.

Reacting to the criticism, MC Oluomo who spoke through his aide, Jimoh Buhari, said he could did not attend the event again as he is currently in Abuja attending to urgent matters. He wondered why Nigerians would not want to give an opportunity to a person like him. Speaking, Oluomo said

Quote:“I don’t know the reason people are going against the invitation because the people who invited him knew what they wanted him to say. If he had gone there and said something wrong, then the critical reactions would have been justified.
“Is it a crime not to be educated? Should people who did not go to school go and commit suicide? I think that if someone did not go to school and has a large following, it is enough reason for people to invite him to occasions. Those who invited him for the event had a strong reason for doing it.
“People are judging MC Oluomo based on hearsay. You don’t judge a book by its cover. We are also making efforts to change the negative impression people have about him.”

$9.6 billion fine: Court orders forfeiture Of P&ID assets in Nigeria

The Process and Industrial Development (P&ID) who were dragged to court on 11-count charge bordering on economic sabotage, money laundering, tax evasion amongst others have been ordered to forfeit all its assets in Nigeria to the Federal Government.

The Federal High Court's judgement which came on the heels of a recent controversial judgment of a British court empowering the firm to seize about $9.6bn worth of Nigerian assets, was handed out after P&ID Ltd, the parent company incorporated in the British Virgin Island which was represented by its Commercial Director Mohammad Kuchazi and P&ID Nigeria Limited who were represented by Adamu Usman pleaded guilty to charges against them.

Documents relating to the controversial 2010 gas supply contract and EFCC’s investigation activities were tendered and admitted by the judge as exhibits without objection from the defence.

Justice Inyang Eden Ekwo passed the judgement based on the admission of guilt by the firm and its officials in the criminal charges against them and he also made an order winding up the two firms as well as forfeiture of their assets to the federal government.

However the British firm who on August 16, 2019 won a $9.6bn UK court judgement against the Nigerian government over a failed gas deal signed in January 2010, has vowed to continue its efforts to identify and seize Nigerian assets following President Buhari's administration unwillingness to negotiate in good faith in order to find “a reasonable resolution to the debt.

Quote:"As a result, P&ID will continue its efforts to identify and seize Nigerian assets to satisfy the debt as soon as possible,” it added.

In a statement released on Thursday September 19, P&ID Ltd also accused the Nigerian government of arresting individuals associated with the firm.

Quote:Andrew Stafford Q.C. of Kobre & Kim, which represents P&ID, added, “The Nigerian government, through the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, is carrying out a targeted campaign of detentions aimed at individuals associated with P&ID and the US $9.6bn arbitration award P&ID has won against Nigeria.
“The detentions are illegal, and appear to be aimed at coercing false testimony to support Nigeria’s claim that P&ID’s award is a fraud. Nigeria’s Attorney General Abubakar Malami has acknowledged that his aim is to provoke global opposition against P&ID, by undertaking these attacks.
“P&ID calls on the government of Nigeria to accept its responsibilities under the law, and to cease the unlawful detentions.

25-year-old man commits suicide after girlfriend calls off their relationship

A 25-year-old man identified as Kehinde Muse, has committed suicide after his girlfriend called off their relationship yesterday Wednesday September 18th.

A statement from the spokesperson of the Lagos state police command, Bala Elkana, says the deceased who resides at Number 56 Modele Street Surulere, locked himself in his room and drank poisonous substance known as sniper . He was rushed to Hospital but died on arrival.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the deceased person earlier sent a suicide text message to his ex girlfriend, Rasheedat Damilola Animashaun ‘f’ 21 years old, informing her that he will take his life since she decided to quit the relationship. The ex-girlfriend promptly informed his family about the text message he sent to her and they rushed to his house, broke the door and found him unconscious. He was rushed to the hospital but was declared dead on arrival.

His corpse has been deposited in the mortuary for autopsy.

This road in Sapele, Warri in Delta state can humble you especially when you are going for an appointment that needs you to be in Warri in no time. The Warri-Sapele Road is no respecter of anyone, once you are on this road, you are likely to spend at least two days moving like a snail.

This road was shared by an expatriate and some road users that were going to Sapele for business. According to them, they have been stuck on this road for days. The road is in real mess such that trucks, cars are struck for days due to the bad roads and inability for cars to navigate the road easily.

The Warri- Sapele Road has been left untouched for years despite the state having one of the highest in terms of allocations, almost half of roads in Delta state are unmotorable. The Warri-Sapele road is less than 10 years after it was dualized by SETRACO GROUP and since then maintenance seems to have stopped and no followup was done since 2009.

The road is so bad that it will take you at least 2 days to get to your destination if you ply this road. Many road users are tired and angry that both federal and state government are not willing to do anything on this road.

This is politics and nothing is impossible.”It was also gathered that infringements by agencies under him have been compiled and sent to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and Independent Corrupt Practices and other related offences Commission (ICPC).

Osinbajo chairs the boards of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Border Communities Development Agency (BCDA), National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS) and National Boundary Commission (NBC), among others.

The Vice President had on Monday received a presidential directive asking him to seek presidential approvals for those agencies.

The memo did not state reasons for the new development but a Presidency source, who pleaded for anonymity, described the information about the alleged crisis rocking the Presidency and moves to remove the Vice President as “baseless allegations and outright lies.“This is not true. It is baseless but please don’t mention my name at all.”

LAUTECH Student Leads EFCC Operatives To Arrest 24 Others

Operatives of the Advance Fee Fraud Unit of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Abuja Headquarters, have arrested 25 students of the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, LAUTECH, Ogbomosho, Oyo State, for their allege involvement in various forms of cybercrime including romance scam, love scam, possession of forged documents, and obtaining money by false pretence.

The students, who are aged between 18 and 29 years old, were arrested at their off-campus hostels, following a three-day raid carried out between September 16 and 19, 2019.

Operatives acted on intelligence report, which was investigated using sophisticated equipment. The raid also followed months of surveillance and monitoring of their activities.

They include: Pelumi Adigun, 18; Umaru Frederick, 21; Damilola Emmanuel, 22; Tomiwa Oyewole, 29; Adeleke Owolabi, 24; Oladosu Abdullahi, 23; Abdulmusaq Ismail, 25; Isajimi Joshua, 23; Olaniyan Tunde, 22, and Ebosele Francis, 28.

Others are: Oladejo Ibrahim, 26; Oluwadamilare Abimbola, 25; Orimoloye Joshua, 23; Alfred Samuel, 22; Bayewu Ishola, 23; Abiola Gbenga, 25; Alfred Daniel, 20; Agboola Solomon, 21; Arolewola Damilola, 25; Amoo Tunmise, 23; Akeem Taiwo, 25; Segun Ajibola, 25; Hassan Segun, 24; Onicha Joel, 23, and Tafa Bassit, 25.

In the course of executing the search, Ismail, who confessed to being involved in internet fraud, took operatives round hostels, leading to the arrest of many of the culprits.

Some of the suspects who jumped over the fence to escape arrest, were nabbed in the process.

Some of the items recovered from them, which are believed to be the proceeds of their illegal activities online, include, a 4matic Benz, a Toyota Camry, a Toyota Corolla, two Macbook computers, two iPads, two iPhones and many other documents, which will be subjected to forensic analysis.

Woman remanded for allegedly pouring hot oil on neighbour

A Badagry Magistrates’ Court in Lagos State on Thursday ordered that a 30-year-old woman, Miss Ifeyinwa Nduka, who allegedly poured hot oil on her neighbour, be remanded in a correctional facility, pending doctor’s report.
Nduka, whose address was not given was charged with assault, NAN reports.

She pleaded not guilty to the charge.
Magistrate Patrick Adekomaiya, remanded the defendant, pending when the court receives the doctor’s report on the condition of the complainant.
Adekomaiya adjourned the case until Oct. 21 for mention.

The Prosecution Counsel, ASP Patrick Nkem, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on Sept. 14, at about 7p.m at Unity Estate, Magbon area of Lagos.
Nkem alleged that the defendant poured hot oil on her neighbour, Ms Abisola Salau, causing her grievous injury.

He said the offence, contravened the provisions of Section 245 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015.

The Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, Kaduna State Chapter, has raised the alarm over an alleged quit notice to demolish one of the oldest Anglican churches in Zaria by the Kaduna State government.

CAN, therefore, drew the attention of the Kaduna State government to a notice to one ST. George’s Anglican Church in Sabon Gari, Zaria founded about 110 years ago.

A statement from CAN State chairman, Rev. Joseph Hayab issued Thursday and made available to newsmen said, “The 7-Day Quit Notice by the Kaduna State Urban Planning Development Agency (KASUPDA), is purported to be a directive from the Executive Governor.

“The notice also claimed that compensation had been duly paid to the church. The Quit Notice, which was not dated, was addressed to: House No. 27, Church House, Sabon Gari Market, Zaria which in the actual sense is St George’s Church.”

The statement explained that part of the quir notice reads, “Reference to the directive given by the Executive Governor on the issue of Market development which compensation has been dually paid. However you are hereby directed to vacate your resident within Seven (7) days from now, failure to comply will leave the Agency with no option than to evict you at your own expense. (from 19h – 24 September).”

CAN observed that the signatory of the notice did not include his name, but it was signed by the zonal head of KASUPDA on behalf of the zonal Manager.
CAN explained, “We are alarm and apprehensive about this, if it is true that it is a directive from the governor. But we doubt much if the governor issued the directive.

“This is because in February 2016, the government made moves to relocate the church to pave way for the expansion of the market, but later realized that the Church has all valid documents and that even some parts of the market are on the Church’s land.

“Following the presentation of the necessary documents by the church, the matter was resolved amicably.

“We wish to state categorically that no any compensation was paid to the church.”
CAN wandered where KASUPDA officials got what it described as false information that compensation had been paid.

CAN asked, “Or are the KASUPDA officials playing a script or are they being used by some faceless trouble entrepreneurs to provoke Christians?

“It should be noted that the Church which was founded about 110 years ago, was liberal enough to allow the market in question to operate in some parts of its land. Is it now a crime to be liberal and accommodating?

“How could the governor revisit the issue which was resolved amicably in 2016, by issuing a 7-day quit notice?
We suspect that this could be the handiwork of some people who do not mean well for Kaduna state.”

CAN called on governor Nasiru Ahmed El-Rufai to immediately investigate the purported quit notice from KASUPDA and take prompt action on the officers involved, adding, “This will go a long way in allaying fears and apprehension among Christians in the state and the nation at large.

“This unfortunate notice is coming just few weeks after the alarm about the purported demolition of a mosque in Port Harcourt, Rivers state, which, upon investigations, was later confirmed to be false.
“We urge the governor to take step to avert that kind of situation in Kaduna State.”

Contacted, the Bishop of Anglican Diocese of Zaria, Bishop Abiodun Ogunyemi, confirmed the 7-day quit notice issued to the church by KASUPDA saying, “As l speak to you, l have written an official letter to the Anglican Church national body to intimate them of the development.

“We are shocked with the development but we have all our documents which we bought the land and as it is, part of the market belongs to the Church which has been in existence for over a hundred years without any problem from any past administration in the State.

“We are praying that justice will take its cause on the matter because as a Church, we followed all the legal and genuine procedures in obtaining the land and out of our magnanimous deposition, we allowed part of the land to be occupied by the market, knowing fully well that our documents are genuine.”

Osinbajo’s Office Not Sidelined – Presidency

The Presidency has disproved claims that the office of Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has been sidelined after a change of the Economic Management Team (EMT) headed by Prof. Osinbajo, Igbere TV reports.

President Muhammadu Buhari had recently set up a new-look economic advisory team which has economists such as Prof. Charles Soludo, Bismarck Rewane, and others, to take over from the team previously overseen by the Vice President.

Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, on Thursday on Channels TV dismissed the claims as false, Igbere TV reports.

Mr Adesina said the presidency is united and that Buhari is only working for the good of Nigerians.

He said that the insinuation that there was a rift between Osinbajo and Buhari was being spread by detractors of the Federal Government.

“The Vice President is the number two man in the country…The new economic advisory body can also relate with the Vice President as necessary,” Adesina said.

“It’s just some Nigerians who want to drive a wedge between the President and the VP, that read meanings into everything and insinuate but there’s no need for that.”

Gambia Tourism Board hails Akwaaba as air arrival grows by 39%

AKWAABA, African Travel Market has continued to be a melting point for tourism destination marketers, as new figures released by the Gambian Tourism Board revealed that air arrival from Nigeria increased by 39 per cent compared with previous years.

Director of Marketing, Gambia, Adama Njie, affirmed that African Travel Market (AFTM) popularly known as Akwaaba, an annual organised travel and tour event remains one of the utmost important trade fairs to Destination Gambia.

In an interview with thepoint.gm, an online medium, Njie outlined the importance of the African Travel Market trade fair to the destination since the country rejoined Akwaaba in 2018. According to record, he said air arrivals for Nigerian Market 2015 and 2018 revealed that the 2018 has the highest total increase air arrival “with 39 per cent increase compared with previous years.”

He went further that among non-traditional markets arrival from January to December 2018, there were 77,109, an increase of 21 per cent compared with January to December 2017 arrivals of 63,492. From this non-traditional markets figures, “Nigerian and American markets top the list of arrivals by nationalities from the non-traditional in 2018 both accounting for 7 per cent” followed by other markets.

Adama Njie who was among the three-panelist that deliberated on ‘The Role of DMCs and DMOs in Sustainable Destination Marketing in Africa’ at the 14th edition of AFTM in 2018 explained that Gambia got a decline in number of arrivals from Nigeria when the destination (Gambia) seized to participate in the Akwaaba Travel Market “but The Gambia rejoining the AFTM is now a plus to the country as we are gradually picking up again.”

The Gambia team to this popular and renowned travel and trade exhibition will be led by the director general of GTBoard, Abdoullahi Hydara and to be accompanied by other stakeholders in the like of NCAC, GTHI, ITTOG, GIA, Aviation and Tour Operators among others.

Organiser of Akwaaba African Travel Market, Ikechi Uko Abuja Jabamah, Accra Weizo and Banjul Bantaba commended Gambia Tourism Board under Ministry of Tourism and culture for taking the bold step and rejoined the AFTM in 2018.

He disclosed that The Gambia with its brand equity has opportunity to occupy its space as far as tourism is concern in West Africa. The Adamawa State chapter of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) has refuted a media report that a teacher identified as Nathan (surname withheld) raped a 12-year-old schoolgirl in Namtari village of Yola South in Adamawa State.

The chairman of the union in the state, Comrade Rodney Nathan, speaking with Tribune Online at the union’s secretariat in Yola, said the claims made by Adamawa Police command, Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), was premature, as according to him, “Proper investigations were not carried out before going to the press.”

Comrade Rodney told Tribune Online that the relationship between the teacher in Adamawa State and the schoolgirl was a known one to the parents of the girl and the society (Namtari) at large.

He said that as of the time, Mr Yusuf was arrested, the keys to his room were with the girl in question, which he said suggested that the duo were consciously engaged in a mutual relationship.

However, while condemning rape as a crime, he vowed to decisively deal with any teacher found in the act.

The NUT chairman contended that “one cannot call a mutual relationship between a schoolgirl and her teacher who are mutually in love a rape case.”

He said from the report submitted by a panel of enquiry set up by NUT to investigate the matter, it became known that the schoolgirl, a student of Government Secondary School (GSS), and Nathan, a primary school teacher in Namtari, had been lovers for at least, six months.

Also, the NUT chairman the investigation committee’s report revealed that the schoolgirl “is carrying a six-month pregnancy, an indication that a long term relationship had existed between the teacher and the schoolgirl.”

Bloody Wednesday in Nnewi.

A terrible accident took place along new Nnewi/Nnobi (Amuko towards Edey work) road by Ukwu Ukpaka junction. According to an eyewitness who narrated the ugly incident.....

"The tipper was driving towards Amuko Junction, all of a sudden, the tipper started moving backwards on a high speed. Maybe it developed fault and enter reverse gear". She said.

The ugly incident took two precious lives away. One is Anayo,a husband to a nursing mother (an electrician) and the second one Mr. Aneke (an Okada man). The tipper man got missing after the terrible incident. It was really horrible.

Five members of a vigilante group arrested for the Gruesome murder of Ibrahim Ibrahim

The Niger Police Command has arrested five members of local vigilantes in Kontagora for allegedly torturing one person to death, in what the police described as a gruesome murder.

Three of those arrested belong to the state Hisba Commission while the remaining two are members of Yankumiti vigilante group. The five were said to have tortured one Ibrahim A. Ibrahim to death over a disagreement.

Adamu Usman, the State Commissioner of Police, who confirmed the arrest said the victim was from Unguwan Yamma, in Kontagora Local Government Area of the State. The suspects include Ahmadu Yahaya, 35; Dahiru Abdullahi, 28; Abdulrasheed Atabo, 20, all members of the Hisba commission while Yakubu Usman, 25, and Yunusa Adamu, 24, belong to the Yankumiti vigilante group.

Quote:“The deceased was alleged to be responsible for the abduction of one Maryam Salmanu of Unguwan Yamma in Kontagora Local Government Area, believed to be the girl friend of one of the suspects,” he said.

The police commissioner explained that the suspects had invited Ibrahim and two others, Musa Salahu and Ahmed Mohammed, all of the same address, to their office to ‘investigate’ the alleged abduction of the girl. But according to the commissioner of police, the suspects, however, allegedly tortured the trio and inflicted various degrees of injuries on them. Although they later released two of the suspects, the deceased was kept in their custody.

Quote:”The suspects having realized the deteriorating health condition of the deceased, took him back to his room at about 0200 hours and dropped him without the knowledge of his family members. Although, his parent attempted to take him to hospital when he was discovered, he gave up the ghost at about 0300 hours”, the police commissioner said.

He said the suspects would be charged to court on conclusion of investigation and called on members of the different vigilante groups in the state to always operate within the ambit of the law while complementing the efforts of the Police in the protection of lives and property.

month of August, 2019, the Nigerian Bureau of Statistic,
NBS, has said.
The agency, in its latest report on the prices of petroleum
products, stated that average price per litre paid by
consumers for household kerosene increased 10.80 percent
year-on-year, YoY, to N319.94 last month. The current price
represents 1.24 percent rise month-on-month, MoM, from
N316.03 in July, 2019.
Cooking Gas
A breakdown of the prices in the various states shows that
states with the highest average price per litre of kerosene
were Abia Enugu, and Ebonyi States, at N375.55, N365.47
and N358.33 respectively. It also shows states with the
lowest average price per litre of kerosene were Abuja
(N245.50), Kwara (N261.11) and Benue (N261.90).

The agency did not indicate the reason for the development
but other industry sources show a government’s policy shift
in favour of gas for domestic cooking.
A report obtained from the Nigerian National Petroleum
Corporation, NNPC, also shows a decline of kerosene
importation from 139.6 million in the first quarter of the
year, Q1’19, to 85.5 million liters in the Q2’19, indicating a
huge shortfall in the supply of the product.
Conversely, in another report, on Liquefied Petroleum Gas,
LPG, popularly known as cooking gas, the average price for
the refilling of a 5kg cylinder cooking gas decreased by
-1.21 percent MoM and by -2.62 percent YoY to N2,000 in
August 2019 from N2,024.80 in July 2019.
According to the agency, “States with the highest average
price for the refilling of a 5kg cylinder for Cooking Gas were
Adamawa (N2,488.75), Bauchi (N2,468.89) and Borno
(N2,391.07).
“States with the lowest average price for the refilling of a
5kg cylinder for Liquefied Petroleum Gas (Cooking Gas)
were Osun (N1,694.44), Enugu (N1,718.05) and Abuja
(N1,739.17).”
However, the report further stated: “Average price for the
refilling of a 12.5kg cylinder for Cooking Gas increased by
0.09 percent month-on-month and decreased by -3.35
percent year-on-year to N4,220.11 in August 2019 from
N4,216.29 in July 2019.”
On average price paid by consumers for Premium Motor
Spirit, PMS, popularly known as petrol, the report indicated
a -1.0 percent decrease YoY and 0.3 percent increase MoM
to N145.5 in August 2019 from N145.0 in July 2019.
States with the lowest average price of petrol were Katsina
(N142.50), Zamfara (N144.33) and Kaduna (N144.68).
States with the highest average price of petrol were Bayelsa
(N146.78), Cross River (N146.76) and Kogi (N146.75).

As a Christian, you’re a greater and better recipient of the Spirit’s power. He lives in you, and is real in you as a person, but He has also imparted your whole being with His power. This is where many have missed it: they seem to be more conscious of the power than the Person of the Holy Spirit.

You can have the power of the Holy Spirit, and not be in fellowship with the Person of the Holy Spirit, and that’s dangerous. It happened to some in Bible days, and still happens today.

For example, Samson was endued with the power of God; the power was in his hair, but he wasn’t living right. He disregarded the Word of God, and fell in love with a Philistine. He knew his decisions were wrong, but he was confident that if trouble came, all he had to do was activate the power of God in Him.

He knew how to “shake himself” (Judges 16:20) for the power to work. He knew how to make contact with the “power,” but wasn’t in fellowship with the “Person.” Of course, he would pay dearly for his error eventually.

That’s just like some people today. Someone could be healing the sick, casting out devils, but his ways aren’t right with God; he’s not in fellowship with the Holy Spirit. All he has are the impartations of the Spirit. That’s not what God wants.

Your fellowship with the Holy Spirit is the most important thing in your life. Apportion regular times in the day to spend with Him, and He’ll reveal mysteries to you concerning your life, future, family, job, finances and everything else related to you. He’ll fly you on eagle’s wings and navigate you through life victoriously. Hallelujah!

The state Commissioner of Police, Mr Mustapha Dandaura who confirmed the arrest said the police are already investigating the incident. Rivers state Police spokesperson, Mr Nnamdi Omoni said the arrested suspect has been moved to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department as preliminary investigation revealed he is an indigene of Akwa Ibom state.

Justice Jude Okeke of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), High Court, Maitama, on Wednesday, September 18th heard how evidence linking the company used by the former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal, to allegedly defraud the federal government to the tune of N500 million was extracted from a telephone.

Lawal and his younger brother, Hamidu Lawal, Suleiman Abubakar, Apeh John alongside two companies, Rholavision Engineering (fifth defendant) and Josmon Technologies (sixth defendant), are facing prosecution by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on an amended 10-count charge, bordering on fraud, diversion of funds and criminal conspiracy to the tune of over N500 million.

At the resumed hearing of the case Wednesday, a prosecution witness and certified data examiner with the EFCC, Fatima Umar, told the court how she extracted a forensic report from an iPhone belonging to one Mr Gulani, using a cellebrite camera. But the attempt by the prosecution counsel, Offem Uket, to tender the video evidence in a CD, was opposed by the defence counsel, Akin Olujimi.

According to him, information generated from the phone or any other device by virtue of section 84 of the Evidence Act, must be certified to be admitted in evidence. He explained that the prosecution has not produced any such certification. Justice Okeke, after listening to the argument of both counsel, adjourned the matter to September 24, 2019, for the continuation of trial.

The Nigerian senate has described the public outcry over the 9th senate's plan to buy N5.5bn SUVs for members of the red chamber as an insult.

Speaking to newsmen in Abuja, the Senate Majority leader Yahaya Abdullahi said the 109 senators will pay back for the cars at the end of their 4-year legislative tenure. Insisting that they do more work than Ministers, Abdullahi added that their status as senators is not undeserving of an SUV.

Quote:The Senate Leader said, “What is the problem there? It is an insult to say that a senator of the Federal Republic cannot ride a jeep in Nigeria. It is an insult. The N5.5bn is from the National Assembly fund and it is budgeted for every year, which they will pay back at the end of the tenure.
“I was a permanent secretary. I know what ministers get; we cannot even compare ourselves to ministers because we are higher than the minister(s). For you to say that a senator of the Federal Republic cannot drive a jeep today — come on, that is an insult.
“Go and tell the people that the work that we do is more than the work of ministers. The weight that is on me today; there is no minister of the Federal Republic that has it.”

He further revealed that the senate will work towards the independence of the local government structure to boost national development and stability of the grass-roots economy, as they now carry the load of local governments following its collapse.

Similarly, Mr. President has directed the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation to commence the process for the selection of new Permanent Secretaries to replace all retiring Permanent Secretaries.

The decision of Government to extend the tenure of these Permanent Secretaries is premised on the need to ensure that the new Ministers are properly guided, briefed about their sectors and to ensure that a solid foundation is laid for the delivery on the Presidential Mandate which they jointly signed.

Here is a viral video of some groups of Nigerian soldier maltreating a man in an improper way.

In the video making rounds online, the video footage can be seen groups of soldiers punishing a man.

In the video the man was tied, and hanged up while the soldiers put fire under him, it seems like the want to roast him.

The man can be seen carrying heavy fire wood, big stone on his back while the soldier was beating him, heating him with their guns and other heavy metals.

From the background audio voice of one of the soldier said, "We must kill you now now".

EFCC Arrests Prison’s Staff, 5 Others For ATM Fraud

Operatives of the Kaduna Zonal Office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC have arrested six fraudsters who specialize in defrauding innocent Nigerians by using bank details obtained through sim swaps and Automated Teller Machines (ATM).

The suspects include Urulo Ikenna Henry, an Inspector with the Enugu Command of Nigerian Correctional Service. Others are Ugonna Nelson Owete, Ugonna Samuel Okafor Obinna, Chigbo Paschal Chidiebere, Oha Chukwujekwu Kingsley, Ahamefula Francis Izuchukwu

The suspects were arrested in separate operations, sequel to a petition by a customer of Access Bank, alleging that monies were illegally transferred from his account without his authorisation. According to the petitioner, sometime in February, 2019, he opened an account with Diamond Bank (now Access Bank) which he funded to the tune of N5m and instructed the bank to open a fixed deposit account, with the sum of N1m from the earlier account, as opening balance.

The complainant said he was receiving regular alerts until the end of March, 2019 when the alerts stopped coming, prompting him to demand his statement of account from the bank. Upon receipt of his bank statement, he discovered to his chagrin that the sum of two million nine hundred and eleven thousand four hundred and eighty naira (N2,911,480m) had fraudulently been transferred to several accounts between April 5 -9, 2019 without his authorisation..

Upon the receipt of the petition, the zonal office of the Commission immediately swung into action and traced some of the funds to three of the suspects, Samuel Okafor Obinna - N1,500.000; Chigbo Paschal Chidiebere -N210,000 and Oha Chukwujekwu Kingsley N300 000. All three were promptly arrested.

Further investigation revealed that Ikenna Henry, Nelson Owete (a known criminal who was earlier arrested and paraded by the Enugu State Police Command for crimes bordering on conspiracy and armed robbery) and Ahamefula Francis Izuchukwu were equally complicit in the fraud.

They were arrested. Upon arrest, items recovered from Urulo Ikenna Henry included a Toyota Camry, documents of 2 plots of land, 2 Nigeria Housing Fund Passbook (one belonging to him and the other bearing Ani Wilfred Ochechukwu), 17 ATM cards of different banks bearing different names, 2 Nigerian Correctional Service Identity Cards, 2 smart phones and 2 Nokia phones, 1 NHIS card, 1 voter card, 26 Starter Packs and 15 SIM cards of various networks.

Two sachets of Cannabis Sativa, 8 ATM cards bearing different names and banks, 6 Starter Packs, and 4 SIM cards of various networks, One empty ECOWAS Passport, 1 NDA dependant ID card and a voter card were also recovered from Francis Izuchukwu

The suspects will soon be charged to court as soon as investigations are concluded.

Prominent California Democratic Party donor, Edward Buck was arrested on Tuesday September 17, for running a drug house after a man overdosed in his West Hollywood home.

The well-known activist in California politics who donated to former President Barack Obama and former Democratic Party presidential nominee Hillary Clinton, was also charged with charged with battery causing serious injury after years of accusations that he preys on homosexual black men.

65-year-old Buck allegedly injected a 37-year-old man with methamphetamine according to court documents in the latest charge. Though the man survived the overdose but it was learnt that two gay black men have died in similar circumstances in Mr Buck’s apartment. Gemmel Moore, 26, died of a methamphetamine overdose in the building in July 2017 and Timothy Dean, 55, died in the same way in January 2019.

His prosecution was stalled in 2017 as prosecutors who now want this bail to be set at $4m cited a lack of evidence.

Buck reportedly has no case to answer in relation to Moore and Dean’s deaths, but he is currently facing charges of administering methamphetamine and maintaining a drug house. Cossy Ojiakor's followers criticized her today after she lifted her blouse to expose her naked boobs. And she went on a blocking spree after slamming her critics.

The actress, while advertising her YouTube page, lifted her blouse to expose her boobs. She also had on no bra so this made the act all the more scandalous.

Instagram users called her out for having nothing to give save for exposing her body. But she didn't appreciate the criticism and she went after her critics.

Incredible moment fast cop grabbed a bridge jumper's legs as he dangled off the ledge (video)

The moment a cop with fast reflexes saved a would-be bridge jumper from his suicide attempt was captured on video and has now been released.

In the dramatic footage released on Monday, September 16, officer Brian Rehg is seen quickly reaching out to grab the heels of a young man who had tried to jump off.

Two police officers were talking to a young man on a bridge in Knoxville, Tennessee, when during a conversation, the man tried to dive off the bridge.

The video, posted on the Knox County Sheriff’s Office’s Facebook page, shows traffic unit officer Rehg rescuing the unidentified man just moments after he leaped over the rail guard of a bridge.

The incident occurred on April 8, 2019 but the video has just been released to the public.

In the video, Rehg can be seen grabbing and holding onto the young man along with Lt. Chris McCarter as the two helped to pull him back over to safety.

Sheriff Tom Spangler said in the post: “Because of their vigilance and quick actions the young man is alive today.

"Both Lt. McCarter and Officer Rehg are true local heroes, not just because of this one incident but because they continue to risk their lives daily for the safety of others."

Nigerian human trafficking kingpin handed 6 life sentences and an additional 129 years imprisonment in South Africa

A Nigerian man identified as Ediozi Odi has been handed 6 life sentences and an additional 129 years imprisonment after being found guilty of human trafficking and related charges.

The Nigerian national was arraigned before Judge Natvarlil Ranchod of the Gauteng High Court in Pretoria on Wednesday September 18, after being arrested for keeping three young girls hostage to work as sex slaves.

Victims of the Nigerian human trafficking kingpin said to be young girls mostly aged 13-14 were lured from the streets with promises of a better life by recruits (other young girls) who bring them to a brothel owned by Ediozi Odi.

The girls said to come from poor homes are brought to the brothel which is reportedly a house masqueraded as a barber shop, forced to smoke a drug called “rocks” (manufactured and sold by Odi and is believed to be highly addictive) before being hooked up with clients.

The girls who will reportedly do anything to get their hands on the drugs after being exposed to it are first raped by Odi, an act said to be an initiation into the sex trade. While the sex trafficker's workers scout the streets for prospective clients, the girls are usually locked up in the house for the duration of their stay.

IOL reported that the girls are also locked up in a dungeon under the floor of the house whenever the police raided the house. Odi also takes the proceeds from the sex trade and only paid the girls who hardly got any food with drugs. He was busted after a 14-year-old teenager was rescued after a year, while two other victims were able to escape after a week. It was learnt that the police raided the house following a tip-off that the brothel master was going to move them to another facility.

Pictures of the dungeon where these girls were often kept were handed to the Judge during the court session and it showed the house was a filthy and unhygenic brothel which was littered with condoms.

Odi who used his co-accused Hlalele and Luke Botha as drug runners was convicted on 24 of the 29 charges against him. He received three life sentences on three charges of human trafficking and three more life sentences for each charge of rape. His bid to appeal against his convictions and sentences were also turned down. The two drug runners each received a suspended sentence for the possession of drugs.

INFORMATION reaching Nigeriandflightdeck.com is that Nigerians being evacuated from South Africa following xenophobic attacks are air borne on board Air Peace flight APK 7818 scheduled to touch down at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) at an estimated time of 6pm local time.

Our reporter learnt as at last count that the flight has on board 290 Nigerians including 25 infants returning to the country.

The flight which was supposed to leave OR Tambo International Airport, Johannesburg in the early hours of Wednesday morning to arrive at noon was further delayed following certain unforeseen circumstances from that end but eventually took off by 1:50pm local time.

Recall, the Boeing 777 aircraft with registration 5N-BWI was supposed to have departed Lagos at 1.00 am(Tuesday), but it was denied landing permit by the South African authorities which stalled the return of thbe second batch of Nigerians from the country

Pregnant bride, 30, dies from stroke minutes before walking down the aisle

A pregnant bride died from a stroke minutes before she was scheduled to get married and doctors had to carry out an emergency C-section to save the child's life.

Jessica Guedes, 30, a nurse, was six months pregnant and apparently okay before she fell ill in the limo on the way to the church last Sunday in São Paulo.

It was her wedding day and she was excited about getting married to firefighter Lieutenant Flavio Gonçalvez, 31.

After taking photos in her wedding dress, she never made it to her wedding as she died on the way due to pre-eclampsia, a condition which can go unnoticed in pregnant women or those who have just given birth.

When the bride complained of feeling dizzy with pains in her neck, her family thought she was suffering from anxiety due to wedding nerves. Because of this the entourage was running late and they were unaware the victim was suffering from the pre-eclampsia.

She collapsed in the limo and was declared brain dead by doctors shortly after arriving at the hospital.

Her fiancé, firefighter Lieutenant Flavio Gonçalvez, 31, who was already waiting at the altar, was surprised by the delay. When the limo eventually arrived, the bride didn't step out as expected, instead, a relative rushed into the venue pleading for help after the bride passed out in the car.

In an interview with Brazilian Crescer Magazine, the groom said: "I was worried because I was waiting for her at the altar and she was taking ages to come in.

"A cousin of hers ran down the carpet and told me that she had passed out.

"I opened the car door and she was lying down but regained consciousness to talk to me. I said to her, 'Baby, I'm here.' She replied that everything was fine, but that she had a severe pain in the back of her neck. At that moment, I became a rescuer, as I have been for seven years with the Fire Department.

"I took her out of the limo, started first aid and asked for help from my firefighter friends who were there as guests."

Jessica was taken to a state maternity hospital in central São Paulo. However, due to the complexity of the case, she was transferred to the private Pro Matre Paulista Maternity Hospital.

According to the medical report, the mother had a stroke, due to preeclampsia and internal bleeding that meant surgeons were forced to remove the uterus.

The medical team performed an emergency caesarean section to save the 29-week-old baby's life and the young mum, who had been declared brain dead, died after the operation.

Baby Sophia was born weighing 930 grams and 34 centimeters and is in the neonatal intensive care unit. She is likely to be in hospital for at least two months.

A relative of the victim, said: "Jessica was attending prenatal care, had no high blood pressure during her pregnancy and was healthy, doing physical activity and eating well."

A video of the last moments of the bride shows her happily waving to the camera in her gown on her wedding day. But within a few hours, she was dead.

Images also captured the incredible moment the premature child responds to her father’s voice by opening her eyes, turning to look at him and seemingly reaching for him with an outstretched hand that creeps out from underneath the covers.

The bereaved father said: "Jessica was a really cheerful person who loved life, an enlightened and strong being of light. I was so looking forward to becoming her husband and becoming a father. I will be strong and I will not weaken in the face of adversity.

"The love of my life taught me how to respect and treat a woman well so that I could learn how to take care of our daughter.

"I still can’t believe this has happened. It seems like I'm in a sad movie, and you cry, cry, cry, but leave the movie theatre knowing it was just a movie.”

He added: "However, in my case, the movie will never be over, and the suffering will go on forever."

Ghanaian comedian, Funny Face has blamed the challenges he faced which in turn affected growith in his comedy career on Ghana's population which he claimed is made up of 60% witches.

Funny Face who got a breakthrough in his comedy career after headlining Night of 1010 Laughs in 2010, complained about having over a million followers on social media but getting no response and engagement on his posts.

Yoruba socio-cultural group, Afenifere, says from the look of things, Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo’s office has been rendered useless, impotent and irrelevant.

The spokesman for Afenifere, Mr. Yinka Odumakin, said this during an interview with The PUNCH on Wednesday.

He said, “We are watching as events unfold. We are studying the situation, but we must also not muddle up issues.
“For now, we will not jump into any premature conclusion that this is about 2023 alone.
“We will need more information to know whether it is political or whether there was abuse of office or process.
“But the barrage of the last 48 hours shows that there is something wrong.

“We will wait to have all the facts because we don’t want to say a Yoruba man is being attacked.
“They may have had a justifiable reason to do so; but we are taking note of every development and at the appropriate time, we will make our position known.
“But clearly, what has happened is that the VP’s office has been rendered impotent, useless and irrelevant.”
It may be recalled that the Economic Management Team hitherto led by Osinbajo was suddenly dissolved on Monday and replaced with an advisory council that would report directly to President Muhammadu Buhari.

The office of SaharaReporters, an online platform, in Lagos state has been barricaded by men of the Nigeria Police Force as well as soldiers.

Members of staff of the media outlet arrived for work this morning but were denied acccess. A Police van is currently stationed in front of the office. The security reportedly arrived the premises at about 7am and called on everyone inside to come out immediately.

This development comes less than two months after Omoyele Sowore, owner of the media outlet, was arrested by the Department of State Services (DSS), over a nationwide protest tagged ''RevolutionNow, he was planning. He was arraigned in court and detained subsequently on grounds he was plotting to overthrow the government of President Buhari.

The fight between Tacha and Seyi is getting harder , It is no longer news that Pepper Dem housemates, Seyi and Tacha have not been in a cordial relationship for some weeks.

Tacha and Seyi have tried very hard to stay away from each other in the house to avoid conflict.

Well, the two crossed each-others part today in the kitchen and they could not help but hurl abusive words at themselves.
