9 Ex-governors Whose Corruption Cases Are Forgotten
User Avatar Forum: News

Quote:In this piece, ENIOLA AKINKUOTU and TOBI AWORINDE report that the conviction of former Governor Orji Kalu of Abia State raises questions on pending graft cases

The trial of former Governor Orji Kalu of Abia State for fraud finally ended a few days ago. Interestingly it lasted 12 years and on the 12th month of 2019, he was sentenced to 12 years imprisonment.

Apparently Kalu’s conviction trended both in the traditional and social media for two reasons: Many Nigerians, especially his political rivals, had before then believed that he was untouchable due to his perceived close relationship with President Muhammadu Buhari. Secondly, being a serving Senator and the current Chief Whip of the Senate, as well as an influential member of the ruling All Progressives Congress from the South-East, most people already concluded that his ‘sins had been forgiven.’

However, The PUNCH reports that aside Kalu, who will face the chastising whip of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, there are nine other former state governors that the anti-graft agency similarly accused of corruption, which have yet to have their day in court. They are Theodore Orji, Timipre Sylva, Godswill Akpabio, Aliyu Wammako, Ali Modu Sheriff, Rabiu Kwankwaso, Peter Odili, Danjuma Goje and Sullivan Chime.

Theodore Orji

Orji, who was the Chief of Staff to the convicted Kalu, succeeded the latter in 2007 and ruled till 2015 before becoming a senator.

On November 21, 2018, Orji, who represents Abia-Central Senatorial District at the National Assembly, was invited over allegations that he mismanaged about N27bn during his tenure as governor. The invitation, it was learnt, was sequel to a series of petitions written against the former governor shortly after he left office in 2015.

He was accused of diverting billions of naira disbursed to Abia State by the Central Bank of Nigeria for Small and Medium Enterprise.

The lawmaker was also alleged to have diverted money from the Ecological Fund account, which should have been used in tackling erosion and other disasters peculiar to the state.

Orji allegedly diverted money from the Abia State Oil Producing Development Area Commission, a government agency set up for the development of the oil producing areas in the state.

No charges have been filed against Orji till date.

Timipre Sylva

Timipre Sylva, who is now the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, governed oil-rich Bayelsa State between 2008 and 2012.

According to the EFCC, the former governor, alongside one Francis Okonkwo, Gbenga Balogun and Samuel Ogbuku, allegedly conspired and used three companies – Marlin Maritime Limited, Eat Catering Services Limited; and Halloween-Blue Construction and Logistics Limited – to launder about N19.2bn.

The money was allegedly diverted from the coffers of Bayelsa State between 2009 and 2012, under the pretext of using it to augment the salaries of civil servants in the state.

The court case against Sylva commenced in 2012 when the EFCC, through a motion filed by its lawyer, Mr Festus Keyamo (now Minister of State for Labour and Employment), sought for an interim order for the forfeiture of 48 houses allegedly belonging to Sylva, which was granted by Justice Mohammed.

Keyamo was also pursuing a separate N6bn fraud case against Sylva before Justice Evoh Chukwu of the Federal High Court, on behalf of the commission.

The anti-graft agency, through another lawyer, Mr Rotimi Jacobs (SAN), instituted a separate case before Justice Mohammed.

Sylva subsequently filed a motion challenging the competence of the fresh suit, describing it as an abuse of court process.

Keyamo was asked by the government to withdraw the matter so that all the charges could be consolidated. He complied and the case was struck out.

The PUNCH learnt on Sunday that the inability of the EFCC to serve Sylva’s co-defendants had caused a setback in upturning the 2015 judgment.

Documents obtained by The PUNCHshowed that the case, with number CA/A/808C/2015, has been pending before the appellate court since December 22, 2015.

About 48 houses allegedly seized from Sylva have since been returned to the minister.

Danjuma Goje

A former Governor of Gombe State, Senator Danjuma Goje was arraigned in 2011 shortly after the end of his eight-year tenure.

He was accused of fraud to the tune of N5bn and the EFCC pursued the case from 2011 to 2019.

The PUNCH reported that over N100m was spent on legal fees alone as 25 witnesses were called while 150 exhibits were tendered in court by the EFCC.

The witnesses called by the EFCC included officials of the Central Bank of Nigeria, the Universal Basic Education Commission, officials of the Gombe State Ministry of Education, executives of Zenith Bank and Access Bank and operatives of the EFCC.

Goje and four other accused persons were being prosecuted before Justice Babatunde Quadri of a Federal High Court in Jos.

They were arraigned on charges of conspiracy, money laundering and embezzlement of funds belonging to the state government.

He was accused of diverting N5bn from the government’s treasury under the guise of contracts for the supply of dictionaries and food.

On March 22, 2019, the court ruled that he had a case to answer and should proceed with his defence.

However, in May 2019, while Goje was running for President of the Senate, he met with President Buhari and was advised to step down for Senator Ahmad Lawan who eventually became Senate President.

Shortly after, the case was mysteriously taken over from the EFCC by the Attorney-General of the Federation and subsequently dropped, sparking outrage from a cross section of Nigerians.

Although Goje’s case has been withdrawn, he is still subject to prosecution if the government pleases since he was not acquitted.

Godswill Akpabio

The self-acclaimed ‘uncommon transformer’ has been under probe by the EFCC since his eight-year tenure ended in 2015. Akpabio, who was a governor of the oil-rich Akwa Ibom State, was accused of mismanaging N108bn belonging to the state and was quizzed on October 16, 2015.

The EFCC wrote letters to Zenith Bank, Keystone Bank, First City Monument Bank, Skye Bank (now Polari bank), and United Bank for Africa demanding information on the state’s accounts.

The anti-graft agency also extended its investigation to the accountant-general, the auditor-general, the Speaker and the clerk of the House of Assembly.

Following the allegations, the Akwa Ibom State Government refused to cooperate with the EFCC and took the commission to court and obtained an interim injunction, restraining the EFCC and other Federal Government agencies from probing its finances.

Few months after, Justice Ntong Ntong of the Akwa Ibom State High Court, sitting in Ikot Ekpene, Akwa- Ibom State, vacated the order, paving the way for full investigations.

Akpabio, amid the allegations, defected to the All Progressives Congress and met with President Muhammadu Buhari in London, a photo of which went viral on social media.

At his grand welcome rally in August 2018, Akpabio said the anti-graft agency had cleared him of all corruption charges.

“Those petitions to the EFCC have been sorted out. As I stand today, I have not been charged to court because nothing was found against me,” Akpabio said.

The EFCC, however, responded through its spokesperson Wilson Uwujaren that the cases against Akpabio hadn’t been closed.

“The EFCC does not close cases or give clearance to anybody,” Uwujaren had said.

Akpabio was in July 2019 appointed the Minister of Niger Delta Affairs by Buhari. No charges have been filed against him till date.

Aliyu Wammako

Senator Aliyu Wammako was governor of Sokoto State from 2007 to 2015.

Wammako, who represents Sokoto North, has since 2015 been under probe by the EFCC for alleged N15bn fraud.

The senator, who is the Vice-Chairman of the Senate Committee on Anti-Corruption and Financial Crimes, was accused of diverting public funds.

In an EFCC factsheet published last year by several media houses, the EFCC said that at least N1.7bn had been traced to the personal account of the ex-governor.

The fact sheet read in part, “Several petitions were received against Wammako for alleged theft and laundering of state funds amounting to N15bn.

“The EFCC in the last three years took time to look into some of the petitions and verified a few facts. Investigation has so far traced N1.5bn to the personal account of Wammako, which was deposited by individuals (suspected to be staff of the Government House, Sokoto) who have yet to be traced.

“The cash deposit was made between 2012 and 2015. The ex-governor will be invited any moment from now for interaction.”

Wammako, who led President Muhammadu Buhari’s campaign in Sokoto State in the last elections, has not been charged to court till date.

Peter Odili

The case of former Governor Peter Odili of Rivers State is, perhaps, one of the biggest conundrums facing the EFCC. Odili, who was governor of Rivers State from 1999 to 2007, is married to Justice Mary Odili, a Supreme Court judge.

The 71-year-old politician first came under probe towards the end of his administration in March 2007.

The ‘Interim Report of the EFCC had stated that “over N100bn of Rivers State funds have been diverted by Odili and contained serious allegations of fraud, conversion of public funds, and money laundering, among others.

Odili, as the sitting governor of Rivers State, had approached the Federal High Court in Port Harcourt in February 2007, asking it to grant him an order preventing any law enforcement agency from arresting, harassing and prosecuting him for fraud.

On March 23, 2007, Justice Ibrahim Buba granted Odili’s prayers, including a declaration that the EFCC investigations were invalid, unlawful, unconstitutional, null and void.

He also granted an injunction restraining the EFCC and the other defendants from publicising the report of the investigation; and an injunction restraining the EFCC from any further action in relation to the alleged economic and financial crimes.

The EFCC has been unable to vacate the court order in the last 12 years.

Sullivan Chime

The EFCC had in 2016 announced that it was probing former Governor Sullivan Chime of Enugu State.

Chime, who was governor from 2007 to 2015, was accused of mismanaging the resources of the state and also receiving part of the N23bn allegedly shared by a former Minister of Petroleum Resources, Diezani Alison-Madueke.

The former governor subsequently defected from the Peoples Democratic Party to the All Progressives Congress.

Although many persons involved in the N23bn Diezani fund have been charged, there has been no update on Chime’s case.

Ali Modu Sheriff

The EFCC said in February 2016 that former Governor Ali Modu Sheriff of Borno State was still under probe.

He was arrested in June 2015 for alleged embezzlement of public funds during his eight years as governor of Borno State but was granted bail.

His government was said to have received over N300bn from the Federation Account between 2003 and 2011, an amount alleged to have been mismanaged by Sheriff.

Sheriff has since returned to the All Progressives Congress.

There has been no update regarding his probe and possible prosecution.

Rabiu Kwankwaso

Former Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso of Kano State has also been under probe by the EFCC n the last couple of years.

In a fact sheet made available to the press last year, the EFCC said Kwankwaso was to account for how the 44 local government areas in Kano State were allegedly forced to contribute the N3.08bn to his Presidential campaign in 2014.

Each of the LGAs allegedly paid N70m each to Kwankwaso’s campaign in the presidential primaries of the APC.

The document stated that petitions alleged Kwankwaso diverted state funds to personal use. One of the petitions, against Kwankwaso was received from Mustapha Danjuma and Co and it was dated May 27, 2015.

At least 5 dead and dozens injured or missing after volcano erupts near New Zealand

At least 5 people have died and dozens more have been injured or are unaccounted for after a volcano erupted off the coast of New Zealand while tourists were climbing on it.

Whakaari also known as White Island, located 48km off New Zealand's North Island, erupted around 2.11pm local time on Monday.

A number of tourists were pictured deep inside the crater just moments before the blast. Others on a boat near the island had to flee as thick, black smoked billowed towards them.

It is thought around 50 people were on the island at the time of eruption, including New Zealanders and overseas tourists.

Australia has confirmed some of its citizens were involved, thought to be passengers from the Ovation of the Seas cruise ship, which departed from Sydney last week.

Eighteen survivors have been evacuated suffering injuries including severe burns and five people are dead, leaving an estimated 27 still unaccounted for.

Authorities say rescuers have been unable to get on to the island to check for survivors due to dangerous conditions, with experts warning there is a risk of further eruptions.

John Tims, who is helping to coordinate the rescue efforts, said the death toll is expected to rise once a search of the island is carried out, Mailonline reports.

"I can confirm there are five people now deceased from the eruption on White Island," John Tims told reporters on Monday evening, December 9.

"A number of other people have been taken to a hospital. A number of people have burns as a result of the eruption. It is still too early for police to confirm how many people are involved."

Authorities are yet to confirm the nationalities of the victims or assess whether there are still survivors on the island as they have been unable to establish communication with anyone there.

A no-fly zone over the area is now in effect.

Nuclear Power Stations In Kogi, Akwa Ibom Can Wipe Out Nigerians, Others

Nuclear power stations in Kogi, Akwa Ibom can wipe out Nigerians, others –Scientists

........Say neither Russia nor Nigeria can guarantee safety

Quote:Scientists across the country, especially those in Itu and Geregu in Akwa Ibom and Kogi states respectively – host communities for the proposed twin-reactor nuclear power plants in Nigeria, are currently calling on the Federal Government to rescind the project and save the country from holocaust associated with nuclear disaster. CHIJIOKE IREMEKA reports that Russian-State-Owned Rosatom which signed the contract with Nigeria, is ready to take off without Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA)

“Nigeria does not have the capacity to manage a nuclear reactor crisis should anything go wrong. No country can guarantee that, not even the Russia; evidence have shown,” says Prof. Philip Njemanze, a Principal Investigator, NASA Johnson Space Center Neurolab, US.

Njemanze, the Medical Director, Chidicon Medical Centre, Owerri, Imo State, is reacting to the moves made by Nigerian government, which signed an agreement with Russian-State-owned Rosatom on October 8, 2017, to build nuclear power plants in the country to help its electricity crisis.

These moves, which were allegedly made without Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) and the consent of the host communities, Itu, Akwa Ibom State and Geregu, Kogi State, where the proposed nuclear power plants will be built, had met with stiff opposition by both the communities and experts across the country due to its known catastrophic disposition.

Njemanze like other experts, including environmentalists, are calling for its abrogation, saying the project is capable of wiping out the entire human inhabitation of those states and other African countries should there be a nuclear plant accident as in the case of Chernobyl.

They intensified their calls following the latest Nuclear Plant Explosion in Russia, the prototype for Nigeria, which snuffed out lives from five Russian scientists, who were servicing the plant at the time of the incident and left three others with severe burn.

Njemanze insists that no country has the capacity of guaranteeing safety of the nuclear reactor accident, stating that the Russians who supposed to do the job had had a blow of nuclear reactor crisis including Japan, the nuclear power plant authority.

He maintained that the agreement, which is expected to permit Russia to construct and operate the nuclear power plants in Itu and Geregu, is as good as giving death warrants to all Nigerians due to its associated hazard.

According to the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), the project will be financed by Rosatom, under build, own, operate and transfer (BOT) basis and then transfer the cost to Nigeria to pay back.

It is estimated at about $20 billion, each of the four reactors, while four of them amount to $80 billion which Nigeria will pay back, implying that the country will continue to service the debt (loan) for the next generation, if Nigeria goes on with the project.

By the way, a nuclear power plant is a thermal power station in which the heat source is a nuclear reactor. As is typical of thermal power stations, heat is used to generate steam that drives a steam turbine connected to a generator that produces electricity.

Sunday Telegraph learnt that Itu and Geregu are twin nuclear reactors. The idea of a nuclear power plants in the country came into play as an effort to find lasting solution to the shortage of power supply in the country.

Those who signed the agreement meant well for the country and perhaps didn’t know what disaster lurking for the country should there be a nuclear accident where the impact will be more than the impact of atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki in Japan.

According to the Nigeria Atomic Energy Commission (NAEC), the sites were selected for the construction of two nuclear reactors after due considerations, saying that preliminary licensing of the approved sites was given in 2016 from the Nigerian Nuclear Regulatory Authority (NNRA).

The fear that the world had witnessed 99 nuclear reactor accidents of which Russia is among the worst hit continues to cast shadows to this multi-billion dollars project.

“Nuclear crisis in Japan has revived fears over the safety of nuclear power and the potential danger posed to public health when things go wrong,” Njemanze recounted.

On August 9, 2019, in the Arkhangelsk region, an explosion triggered radiation levels to rise near Nyonoksa, which was later confirmed by Russia’s nuclear energy agency as an accident while testing an isotope power source for a liquid-fuelled rocket engine.

It was later learnt that five nuclear scientists lost their lives in the incident while three others suffered from burns. Russian authorities ordered the evacuation of the village close to the blast site, suggesting grave dangers due to nuclear radiation.

The agency in a report confirmed: “On August 8, Russian scientists were working on miniaturised sources of nuclear energy when a rocket engine exploded. The explosion killed five people and caused radiation readings in neighbouring cities to spike to 20 times above their normal level in half an hour.”

While the Russian Defence Ministry said the explosion took place during testing of a rocket engine, the country’s nuclear agency, Rosatom, countered in its report that the incident happened during testing of an isotope power source in a liquid propulsion system.

Recall that Rosatom is the corporation that the Nigerian government is partnering to add nuclear energy to the nation’s energy mix. The decision and the process has been criticised by civil society and communities in Itu, Akwa Ibom State that have warned that sitting nuclear plants in their communities does not have their support.

The Environmental Rights Action/Friend of the Earth International (ERA/FoEN), in a statement issued in Lagos, said the current incident should send a clear signal to the Nigerian government to back out of any further nuclear experimentation, which the MoU it signed with Rosatom to build nuclear plants in Nigeria.

Under the arrangement, Rosatom will build nuclear power plants in Kogi and Akwa Ibom though the host communities in Geregu and Itu respectively, say they were not consulted before the choice of their communities for the project.

ERA/FoEN Deputy Executive Director, Akinbode Oluwafemi said: “Once again, we have another reason to ask the Nigeria government to halt the nuclear misadventure spearheaded by the Nigeria Atomic Energy Commission (NAEC) without the consent of Nigerians.”

Oluwafemi explained that it was very disturbing that at a time the global community is pursuing clean and safe energy options, including wind and solar technologies, Nigeria is doing back-flipping by choosing to embrace nuclear power which is neither clean nor safe nor cheap.

He continued: “We have not shown sufficient capacity to manage our hydro and gas-fired plants yet we are plunging into the uncharted waters of nuclear power. This plan should stop immediately.

“The Nigeria-Rosatom deal was brokered on 30 May 2016 on the sidelines of the VIII International Forum ATOMEXPO 2016 which held May 30-June 1, 2016 in Moscow including talks of construction of a Center for Nuclear Research and Technology in Sheba-Abuja.

“The Agreement provides for the construction of a Center with the two-circuit pool-type reactor of the Russian design and a nominal power rating of 10 MW in Sheba-Abuja. Four nuclear plants that Rosatom plans to build will cost about $80billion, with the first expected to be ready by 2025. The other three will be ready by 2035.

“We restate our aversion to throwing nuclear plants into the energy mix in Nigeria. The explosion in Russia despite their expertise is enough indication that it is not the path to go. The details are scary enough.

“We reject the nuclear option for power generation because they are dangerous and we do not have the capacity to manage the potential disaster a nuclear breach may cause.”

In a letter to President Muhammadu Buhari by the Council on World Peace, Global Prolife Alliance, titled: ‘Help Avert Nuclear Holocaust in Nigeria at Russia-Africa Summit,’ which other African leaders were copied, the group called for the project’s repeal.

The group said, “We want to alert you on the potential danger of a ‘Nuclear Holocaust in Nigeria,’ should the Russian-built Itu Nuclear Power Plant in Akwa Ibom, South-South Nigeria be allowed to go ahead…

“We prolife, environmental and religious groups in Nigeria, collectively oppose the construction of a nuclear power plant in Nigeria. The recent nuclear accident in Russia and the 1986 Chernobyl nuclear plant explosion is a reminder of the dangers of nuclear explosions.

“WHO estimates that over 600,000 people in close vicinity suffered severe radiation induced cancer and leukemia in the aftermath of the Chernobyl nuclear explosion.

“Experts taking clues from the Chernobyl nuclear explosion experience and given the dense vegetation, vast network of rivers and intense rainfall in Southern Nigeria, put the estimate of people to be severely affected across Africa at 25 million people.”

According to World Health Organisation (WHO), ecosystem impact of the Soviet built Chernobyl nuclear plant explosion in 1986 affected 200,000 square kilometers of Europe.

The group continued: “The extent of the deposition varied depending on whether it was raining when contaminated air masses passed. Most of the radioactive isotopes deposited within 100 kilometers of the plant but were carried to thousands of kilometers away by wind, rainfall and rivers.

“Talking from the experience of the Chernobyl nuclear explosion, the Itu Nuclear Power Plant explosion is projected to affect the entire ecosystem of West and Central Africa, with spill over to North and East Africa along to Nile flow regions into the Nile Delta and to the Mediterranean across Europe.

“The entire oil-fields of Nigeria, the main source of national revenue would not be accessible by humans under normal conditions. The Nuclear Holocaust would be a hundred times more than Hiroshima & Nagasaki and several times the effects of Chernobyl nuclear explosion.

“The entire ethnic groups and tribes of South-South, South East and South West Nigeria would be wiped out as a people. We have for long argued that the proposed Nuclear Plant project is the most expensive in the world ever.

“At $80 billion, it costs over 30 times the cost of building alternative energy sources of Solar and Hydropower.

“The recent Levelized Cost of Energy Analysis by Lazard, a leading financial advisory and asset management firm suggest that the cost per kilowatt (KW) for utility-scale solar is less than $1000, while the comparable cost per KW for nuclear power is between $6,500 and $12,250.

“This means that nuclear power is nearly 10 times more expensive to build than utility-scale solar on cost per KW basis. Even by world standards, it is unclear why the Itu Nuclear Plant is overpriced.

“Lazard finds that on the average utility solar takes 9 months to build while nuclear plant may take 69 months (or about 6 years) to build. It is therefore, of great national emergency for all religious leaders, social and human rights activists, and all patriotic Nigerians to advocate for a halt of the construction of Itu Nuclear Power station.

“We have advocated a new power architecture for Nigeria that includes clean energy sources of solar and hydropower. The upcoming Russia-Africa Forum has provided us another arena for advocacy to avert a Nuclear Holocaust in Nigeria.

“We enlist your support to advocate for a stop of the nuclear power project and for a change to clean energy sources of solar and hydropower.”

More so, 250 other Environmental Rights Groups in Nigeria have also registered their opposition for the construction of the Itu Nuclear power by Rosatom.

The recent events at the nuclear military site in Russia underscore the grave risks involved with nuclear accidents.

“Iranian nuclear power plant is the biggest but it cost $10 billion and how come ours cost $20 billion? This has to be investigated for corrupt practices but this is not even the point, the point is that we can’t use our money to buy death. There is no different between the electricity supplied by nuclear power plant and that of hydro. So, why nuclear? Njemanze insisted.

Speaking on the differences and performances of the different sources of energy, Noel Orekhma, a power expert, said nuclear power stations top the list of power plants that can produce massive amounts of energy.

According to him, low-enriched Uranium pellets are loaded into the nuclear power plant. Then the Uranium atom is split creating the nuclear fission. This process releases huge amounts of energy which also come with its adverse effects.

He said: “The advantage of a nuclear power plant is that they do not need to burn anything to create energy. Hence, the carbon emission from a nuclear power plant is very low. But the major disadvantages of a nuclear power plant are the nuclear waste that it creates and the steep cost of building one.

“The wastes are very destructive that sometimes, it will be unnecessary building such plants known for causing serious damage to the country and environment. Unlike nuclear power plants, hydroelectric power plants are one of the most effective and eco-friendliest of all power plants.

“In a hydroelectric power plant, electricity is granted from water. In detail, the potential energy of water is converted to electrical energy. When water is made to fall from a height on to a turbine, it spins the armature which is connected to a generator.

“When the turbine spins, the generator starts to produce electricity. This electricity is then routed to all the different substations to distribute the power. The world’s largest power plant is a Hydro-electric power plant called The Three Gorges Dam.

“The dam creates an astounding 22,5000MW of power. It achieves this feat by using 34 power generators. The dam is so huge that after its construction, the dam single-handedly slowed down the earth’s rotation.”

However, Sunday Telegraph learnt that with the advancements in energy generation, the world now has more than just thermal, nuclear and hydroelectric power plants. They are called non-conventional power plants. These power stations are capable of producing clean energy (or Green Energy).

Solar power plant is one of them, and it uses the energy of the sun to produce electricity. Solar panels capture the sunlight using photovoltaic cells and convert it into electricity.

“Today, an increasing number of countries are looking towards solar energy to offset their dependence on fossil fuels. Tengger Desert Solar Park is currently the world’s largest solar power plant in terms of capacity. It is capable of producing 1,547MW of energy,” Ajanaku Felix, who works with Heinrich Foundation.

Meanwhile, over the years, the world had seen a steady incline in the demand for energy all over the world. And moving forward, there is no sign of this pattern slowing down anytime soon! The yearly rise in pollution levels is a testament to the alarming rate of fossil fuel consumption.

What the world can do, though, is move away from carbon-heavy sources of power like fossil fuels and embrace renewable energy sources. There have been massive efforts poured into this vision by different companies and countries to make this vision a reality. In the coming years, we can hope to see more green energy power plants rather than the CO2 factories.

Sowore: NBA under fire over impeachment call

Buhari

The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) came under fire on Monday for calling for President Muhammadu Buhari’s impeachment over the re-arrest of activist-publisher Omoyele Sowore by the Department of State Services (DSS).

NBA earlier tweeted that the National Assembly should commence impeachment proceedings against the President if the DSS Director-General was not immediately sacked.

The association subsequently deleted the tweet and issued another statement saying the impeachment call was not authorised by the NBA President Paul Usoro (SAN).

But before the tweet was deleted, several Nigerians had re-tweeted it.

President Buhari’s Special Assistant on New Media, Bashir Ahmad, tweeted a screenshot.

He said: “Good morning @NigBarAssoc. This is the screenshot of the tweet — which has since been deleted, even when it had gotten thousands of retweets — where you called the NASS to commence impeachment proceedings.”

In the tweet, the NBA said: “The DSS is under the direct control of @MBuhari. A responsible @nassnigeria should pass a resolution requesting for the immediate sack of the DSS DG & other agents found culpable. If the President refuses to abide by same, NASS should commence impeachment proceedings. #SoworeInDanger.”

But, NBA later issued a statement saying the impeachment call tweet was unauthorised.

“That publication does not represent the position of the NBA and was not known to, nor mandated by, the NBA President. The Nigerian Bar Association Constitution 2015 (as amended) mandates only the President to speak on behalf of the Association,” the lawyers’ body said in the statement by its National Publicity Secretary Kunle Edun.

NBA added: “We condemned in unmistakable terms the incident and the conduct of the DSS and called for the Department to tender a public apology to the Nigerian people, but we did not, howsoever, personalise the grave issues that arose from the incident.”

However, the NBA’s denial of its impeachment tweet did not go down well some commentators who felt the association has lost its voice and activism.

@frediecruze tweeted in response to NBA: “Gangsters continue to raid courts, harass judges and lawyers while you pat them at the back with mere statements. Time will come when the legal profession will be redundant to an average man.”

@oluwaphymy tweeted: “Then it seems you have willingly surrendered your independence. Perhaps we should all ignore the judiciary and depend on jungle justice.”

@SKefason said: “Liverless NBA…Continue in your cowardice but I assure you the tyranny will consume us all include you NBA.”

@UTwinna tweeted: “The impeachment post was on this very twitter handle yesterday (Sunday). You cannot deny your initial position except you are telling Nigerians that your account was hacked or that your handler twitted in error. #growsomeballs.”

@joederick said: “When an association likes talking before they think… (smiley faces). You should be renamed Social Media Bar Association.”

@onyiforlife tweeted: “NBA is afraid of Buhari….with this kind of situation Nigerians are in trouble. NBA withdrawing the statement against Buhari…Shame on NBA!”

Kidnappers fleeing a clampdown by men of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command shot and killed four persons along Kawli-Kaita highway on Sunday, according to a statement by the Command on Monday.

A statement by the Deputy Public Relations Officer of the FCT Command ASP Yusuf Mariam said the police had arrested one of the suspected kidnappers and efforts were on top gear to arrest others.

The statement read, “In furtherance of efforts to wipe out kidnappers from the FCT particularly along Kwali-Kaita axis, the FCT Police Command has continued with the Counter-Kidnapping Operations which has yielded positive results.

“However, the operation using overt/covert means has dismantled their camps and dislodged their bases prompting them to seek refuge. Hence, the fleeing kidnappers while scampering for safety entered the highway shot at an oncoming vehicle and killed four persons along that axis on Sunday 8th December, 2019.

“The swift intervention of Police Operatives led to the immediate arrest of one of the suspected kidnappers while efforts are on top gear to apprehend his cohorts.

“While commiserating with the families of the deceased, the Command wishes to reiterate its unflinching commitment to provide maximum security for residents and stakeholders to have a hitch-free Yuletide.”

Quote:Some pupils of the Zappa Secondary School in Asaba, the Delta State capital, have launched an attack on a male teacher after allegedly taking hard drugs.

PUNCH Metro gathered that the pupils, who completed their first term examination on Friday, attacked the teacher while he was on his way home.

The teacher, according to an eyewitness, was rushed to the Federal Medical Centre, Asaba, for treatment as he suffered a broken forehead.

It was learnt that cops from the ‘A’ Division Police Station were immediately alerted and they arrested some pupils on the school premises.

Efforts to reach the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Onome Onovwakpoyeya, were not successful as several calls put across to her mobile phone were not answered.

An activist, Mr Victor Ojei, who rushed to the scene of the incident, said hard drugs had caused a lot of damage to some secondary pupils in the state.

He stated, “The teacher was attacked and rushed to the FMC for treatment. Hard drugs are now being consumed by secondary school pupils in Delta State.

“These kids now take all forms of hard drugs and get intoxicated and start fighting their teachers. They broke his forehead.”

Sowore: Gani Adams Says Buhari's Government Not Different From Abacha Junta
User Avatar Forum: General Discussion
Posted by: Edoman - 12-09-2019, 03:34 PM - No Replies

Quote:Aare Onakakanfo of Yorubaland, Iba Gani Abiodun Ige Adams, has described the re-arrest of Omoyele Sowore, convener of the #RevolutionNow movement, shortly after his release as a national tragedy.

Adams said the situation that played out at the court only indicated that Nigeria had drifted as a democratic nation.

Speaking at the weekend, he insisted that the situation in the country had justified that the rule of law was gradually dying, while the Federal Government remained helpless.

"What happened at the court reminded me of the dark era of the military but, ironically, the present government under President Muhammadu Buhari is like the military junta of the late Sani Abacha in which the military brigandage held sway for years.

“I have been watching events as they unfold, but I am saddened that the event that transpired in the court was a testimony that Nigeria has a long way to go.

The Department of State Services (DSS) failed to respect the rule of law and it was a sad reminder of the military era,” he said.

Adams expressed sadness that the prolonged detention of Sowore had affected the image of Nigeria, because the world was watching the government with keen interest.

He said: “This is not the democracy we fought for between 1993 and 1998. I remember vividly as activists and pro-democracy groups, we put our lives on the line to ensure that our dreams for this democracy became a reality. Now, democracy is here, but we have lost touch with the ideals of a democratic setting as it is practised in other climes.”

Nigerian Army Commander Killed In Boko Haram Bomb Attack
User Avatar Forum: News
Posted by: Edoman - 12-09-2019, 12:01 PM - No Replies

A Nigerian Army commander was killed on Saturday after an improvised explosive device detonated near his vehicle in Marte, Borno State.

Military sources told PREMIUM TIMES the army major, who was the commander of 153 Task Force Battalion in Marte Local Government Area, was leading a patrol of the unit’s perimeter when the bomb went off Saturday evening.

Our sources said the officer was the only one immediately confirmed killed in the attack. It was unclear whether some of his troops, including members of the Civilian Joint Task Force, were injured or killed during the patrol.

PREMIUM TIMES has withheld the name of the officer as it was unclear whether or not his family has been notified by the military.

Army spokesperson, Sagir Musa, did not return a request for comment on the attack that killed the major.

The major has become the latest senior officer to die since a colonel was killed in battle mid-July.

Swathes of Marte Local Government Area were overrun by insurgents between late May and early June, but the military said the area had been recovered and future incursions would be prevented.

Insurgent attacks have reduced generally since late October, with the military crediting its new ‘super camp’ strategy that made it difficult for terrorists to overrun brigades and battalions.

Saturday’s attack has raised fresh concerns about Boko Haram’s ability to launch surprise strikes.

'He has everything to lose' -Trump warns Kim Jong Un not to stoke up tensions by continuing missile tests

US President Donald Trump has come out to warn North Korean leader, Kim Jong Un that he would be making a very big mistake if he restarts missile tests, a day after reports from North Korea revealed that the Hermit nation had carried out a very 'important test' in its missing testing site.

Trump who still points to his 'relationship' with Kim as the reason both countries are in denuclearization talks said Russia , China , NATO and the whole world agree that North Korea must denuclearize so any plan of Kim to deviate from the agreement both leaders signed in the Singapore summit, will have bad consequences for North Korea.

Trump taking to Twitter said;
Kim Jong Un is too smart and has far too much to lose, everything actually, if he acts in a hostile way,'
He signed a strong Denuclearization Agreement with me in Singapore.
'He does not want to void his special relationship with the President of the United States or interfere with the U.S. Presidential Election in November.
'North Korea, under the leadership of Kim Jong-un, has tremendous economic potential, but it must denuclearize as promised.
NATO, China, Russia, Japan, and the entire world is unified on this issue!'

[Image: 5dee04ca1c48c.jpg][Image: 5dee04dd8a822.jpg]

Trump's warning came hours after North Korea carried out a 'very significant' test at its Sohae satellite launch site on Sunday.

The test was conducted shortly after the Asian country announced denuclearization talks with the U.S. were off the negotiating table.

Trump told reporters in June 2018 after his first summit with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un in Vietnam that North Korea had pledged to dismantle one of its missile installations, which U.S. officials later identified as Sohae.

But surprisingly on Saturday, North Korea's ambassador to the UN, Kim Song, said that the  'sustained and substantial dialogue' sought by the U.S. was a 'time-saving trick' to focus on Trump's 2020 reelection bid with state run media, KCNA telling the American government to choose which 'Christmas present' it will receive from North Korea thing December.

A musician is trending after he revealed what he did when he was stabbed by a woman when she caught him cheating with multiple women.

Tweeday Jamal, a Louisiana artist, said the woman stabbed him in the face and he said he "deserved every bit of it". But 30 minutes after, he went and cheated with his "side piece" who patched him up. He added a hilarious "moral lesson" to his story for other men.

Sharing a photo of himself bleeding after getting stabbed two years ago, he wrote:

But I’m here to tell you that after she stabbed me I went & cheated 30 mins later. my side bitch patched me up. & after that I cheated several more times. Moral of the story is nothing, bitch I’m gone cheat tf u thought, u just gone have to stab me again, but I won’t get caught next time.  I am a survivor

A young man from San Antonio Texas, has been arrested for allegedly assaulting his girlfriend and carving his name on her forehead with a knife.

19-year-old Jackub Jackson Hildreth was arrested by police on Friday, December 6, and charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon after his girlfriend, 22-year-old Catalina Mireles, accused him of attacking her.

Mireles said the pair met on Facebook about four weeks ahead of the attack, which left her with a broken jaw, a black eye, and extreme swelling and bruising on her face.

According to her, the attack began in the morning and lasted until the afternoon as they argued about their relationship.

'He was going to put me in the closet until he figured out what he was going to do with my body,' Mireles told KSAT-TV.

Mireles told investigators that Hildreth grabbed her by the neck and punched her in the face before carving his name into her forehead with a knife.

He fled the scene before police arrived but authorities were able to track him down hours later on Friday and arrested him.
Hildreth was previously wanted for burglary assault, court records show. He is being held on $75,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court next month.

Mireles' mother, Juanita Lopez, said she was relieved her daughter's attacker is now behind bars. 'She was scared for her life, he tried to kill her,' she said. 'I don't want him to get out again because he's going to hurt someone else. She's my baby, I didn't expect this to happen.'

The hulking CB stands at 6’3” and 205 lbs, coming out of Virginia Tech.Alexander was waived by the Redskins just prior to the season, landing on Washington’s practice squad. Alexander lasted on the practice squad until October 1st, now joining the Rams’ practice squad. The Rams had two practice squad spots vacated yesterday after signing Deayon and OL Chandler Brewer to the active roster, though they filled one of the spots immediately by signing OL Nate Trewyn. The 10th spot on the practice squad is now occupied by Alexander, who’ll logically replace Deayon.Alexander is only 23-years-old Brian Allen Jersey , has played in nine NFL games, and only has four tackles in his short career. The Chiefs may, or may not, have receiver Sammy Watkins for Sunday night’s showdown against the Rams.Watkins is officially listed as questionable for the game, with the foot injury that knocked him out of last Sunday’s game against the Cardinals.Limited in practice on Thursday, Watkins didn’t practice on Friday or Saturday.鈥淲e are taking that day-by-day Joseph Noteboom Jersey ,” coach Andy Reid told reporters on Saturday. “We will just see how he does as we go here. Chairman House of Representatives Committee on Aviation, Hon. Nnolim Nnaji said at the weekend that the lower legislative chamber was yet to get any official document on the airports concession plan by Federal Government as well as a detailed document on the proposed national carrier – Nigeria Air.

This is just as he said the House of Representatives will in January begin public hearing on the five aviation bills sent to the House by President Muhammadu Buhari.

He said the House will accelerate discussion and consideration on the bills to achieve early passage.

He said the House will work with their colleagues in the upper chambers – the Senate to ensure the bill gets smooth passage.

Nnaji who spoke in an interview in Lagos said it would be inappropriate for the Aviation Committee in the lower legislative house to make category statements on supposedly important projects in the aviation sector, for which it was yet to be handed over any formal document by the Ministry of Aviation.

He, however spared a thought for the proposed second runway of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport Abuja, affirming that the strategic location of the aerodrome makes it imperative to have an alternate runway.

Nnaji said as much as Abuja Airport needs a second runway, the funds allocated to it in the 2020 budget may not be adequate to deliver a state of the art facility.

He called on government to reconsider the cost profile of the runway facility to enable the contractor deliver a world class facility.

The Reps Aviation Committee Chairman called on government to create a pool of funds to intervene on aviation infrastructure saying the quality of facilities in any airport speaks volume of the image of a country.

He said government should think out of the box in considering non – aeronautical sources of bringing revenue to airport to run as serious business.

He said there was need to work out models that will attract private sector players into the aviation sector, as existing funding models from government was not enough to fix lingering gaps in airport and air navigation facilities.

Nnaji said: “We just completed oversight duties of touring some airports , especially Lagos Airport to assist the agencies in areas of need.

” The oversight was quite interesting , eye opening because it exposed us to the inner workings of the aviation sector, especially the aeronautical aspects of the industry.

“we will work closely with the Ministry of Aviation and the agencies to see that what they do with the monies approved in the budget.”

On airports concession he said: “The issue of concession has been a hearsay , officially the House of Representatives has not seen any document on the project. We just hear about the project like other people , there is no document. Until we get the document and study it we cannot make any comments on the project . We can only talk about it then.

“The same condition applies on the proposed national carrier , Nigeria Air. We do not act on hearsay, we act based on documents made available to us . That is why we cannot comment on the issue. “

Yomi Black shares post questioning Toke Makinwa's source of income

Nollywood filmmaker and actor, Abayomi Aderibigbe a.k.a Yomi Black has shared a post calling out Toke Makinwa over her Instagram post in which she shaded Nigerians complimenting Cardi B over some acts she pulled off in Nigeria but slamming Nigerian celebrities for living same lifestyle.

Recall that LIB reported that the media personality tackled Nigerians who attack their celebrities for being a 'bad role model, disgrace and morally corrupt' for same lifestyle they hailed Cardi B for.

However reacting to comment credited to Toke Makinwa, Yomi Black reposted an Instagram post by Digital marketer Soji Ogunnaike who dared the media personality to openly show how she can afford her lifestyle.

Pointing out that Cardi B has never denied being a stripper, Soji also told Toke Makinwa not to come up with the "excuse" of being an actress or an OAP because "they know how much she earns."

Quote:The post  by Soji Ogunnaike reads  "You see why people love someone like Cardi B? She owns her shit, just like the Kardashians. You get what you expect. She hasn't denied being a stripper or enjoying showing her body. She doesn't go around forming motivational speaker and quoting Bible passages on social media like some Saint. Dear Toke, I dare you to openly show how you can afford your lifestyle. And don't come with shit like you're and actress or OAP because we all know how much both earn. Also don't spew shit about endorsement deals because we are in marketing communications and know how much these deals are worth. This has got to be the most hypocritical post of 2019."

We are in contact with President Buhari over El-Zakzaky - Iran

An Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman has said the country constantly pursues the case of Nigeria’s top Shia cleric Sheikh Ibrahim El-Zakzaky through diplomatic contacts with the Nigerian government in line with efforts to help improve his health.

Abbas Mousavi told reporters in Tehran on Sunday that President Buhari and Iranian Vice President for Economic Affairs, Mohammad Nahavandian recently met in Malabo, Equatorial Guinea, on a range of issues, including Zakzaky’s case.

The meeting took place on the sidelines of the 5th Summit of Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF) in Equatorial Guinea. “We hope that the consultations and arrangements that are being made will expedite the settlement of this issue,” the Iranian official said.

Sheikh Zakzaky, who is in his mid-sixties, has been under arrest since December 2015, when his home in the town of Zaria was raided by Nigerian forces.

Three of his sons were killed, his wife sustained serious wounds. Members of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN) regularly take to the streets of Abuja and several other cities to call for the release of Sheikh Zakzaky.

Last week Nigerian authorities transferred Zakzaky and his wife to the Correctional Center in Kaduna state, following a high court ruling. Earlier on Sunday, Sheikh Zakzaky’s daughter, Suhailah, expressed concerns about her parents’ health conditions and said the Nigerian government had ignored her father’s legal right to treatment.

At a press conference in Tehran, she added that the same court, which had issued a verdict on the necessity for the urgent treatment of Sheikh Zakzaky and his wife, on December 5 ordered their transfer to the Correctional Center in Kaduna. She said she knew nothing about her parents’ situation in the prison.

Suhailah said her father has suffered several bouts of heart attack due to numerous medical conditions and her mother is not able to walk. Sheikh Zakzaky, his daughter said, also suffers from lead and cadmium poisoning, which forced the Nigerian authorities to allow him to travel to India for an aborted treatment.

The NFL’s statement regarding the decision to not discipline receiver Tyreek Hill said nothing about the troubling remark that sparked Hill’s banishment from the balance of the Chiefs’ offseason workout program.“You need to be terrified of me too Kendall Fuller Jersey , bitch,” Hill said to Crystal Espinal during an argument regarding whether Hill’s young son respects Hill or is terrified of him.PFT asked the league for an explanation regarding the decision not to discipline Hill despite this comment, which was made by Hill to the same woman he admittedly assaulted while she was pregnant, in 2014.“That audio tape was reviewed as part of the overall investigation, which also included speaking to multiple people Sammy Watkins Jersey , including family members on both sides and Tyreek Hill,” NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy wrote in an email to PFT. “In addition, other information was gathered over the last four months.“When viewed in the context of the full 11-minute, 27-second audio recording and all other information gathered, the statement did not rise to a level of warranting discipline under the personal conduct policy.”That’s the most surprising aspect of the NFL’s decision. While the evidence regarding allegations of child abuse or child endangerment Anthony Hitchens Jersey , if any, apparently was inconclusive at best, the threat made by Hill to Espinal was documented, and Hill’s own lawyer admitted that Hill said what he said. Indeed, Hill’s lawyer called the comment “unacceptable” and “inexcusable Mitchell Schwartz Jersey , of course” in a letter sent to the NFL in early May.The NFL ultimately decided that, for the purposes of the Personal Conduct Policy’s clear prohibition on “[a]ctual or threatened physical violence,” the comment was acceptable and excusable, and that it ultimately nothing that would require even a fine of Tyreek Hill. Wide receiver Tyreek Hill appears to be inching closer to a return to the Chiefs lineup.Hill has been out since injuring his clavicle in the first game of the season, but he’s progressed enough to make it back to the practice field. Chiefs head coach Andy Reid didn’t say how much work Hill would do in practice Juan Thornhill Kansas City Chiefs Jerseys , but any work with the rest of the team is a positive development for the Kansas City offense. That’s also true for running back Damien Williams, who has missed the last two games with a knee injury. Darrel Williams and LeSean McCoy have kept the offense going with Williams out of the lineup, but would likely see their playing time drop if he gets the green light to play against the Colts.Reid didn’t comment on the likelihood that Williams or Hill will make their return to game action this weekend, but the injury reports issued over the next few days should provide some hints about how things play out come Sunday.

RHAPSODY OF REALITIES

MONDAY, 9TH DECEMBER.

WALKING IN CHRIST

As you therefore have received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in Him (Colossians 2:6 NKJV)

Galatians 3:27 NKJV says something powerful that parallels what we read in our opening verse. It says, “For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ.” It means you’ve sunk into Him, like a garment. You might wonder, “I thought I’ve received Christ?” Yes, but this isn’t only from the inside now, but also on the outside.

You’ve received Christ Jesus, the Lord, and He lives in you by the Holy Ghost. Now that you’re born again, you’ve been brought into the new environment called Christ, and you have to walk in that environment. That’s what we read in our opening verse.

For example, if you’re in a car, you’re in a different environment. If it’s an air-conditioned car, outside may be hot, but you’re moving around in your car, enjoying a different environment in the car, unlike the pedestrians outside.

This is reminiscent of the experience with the children of Israel, when they left Egypt for the Promised Land. They went with their own atmosphere. The Bible says, “By day the LORD went ahead of them in a pillar of cloud to guide them on their way and by night in a pillar of fire to give them light, so that they could travel by day or night. Neither the pillar of cloud by day nor the pillar of fire by night left its place in front of the people” (Exodus 13:21-22 NIV).

Everywhere else in the desert was hot and arid, but God’s people dwelt in His divine presence. The pillar of cloud shielded them from the scorching heat during the day. At night, when it was cold, they had the pillar of fire which gave them warmth. In the same way, in Christ, you have your own atmosphere. When you’re going to work, you’re in this environment called Christ! When you’re at home, school, place of business or marketplaces of life, you’re in that environment.

This means nothing can hurt you. Like the children of Israel, you’re protected inside that environment— CHRIST—during the day and at night. Glory to God! What a place! It’s an environment of glory. Hallelujah!

CONFESSION

I dwell in Christ, my new environment! Everywhere I go, I’m in the divine presence and carry that presence with me, demonstrating the finished works of Christ in my family, health, finances and everything that concerns me. I’m not of this world. Hallelujah!

He joined them in 2004 and became their de facto defensive coordinator a year ago after Matt Patricia left to join the Lions as their head coach.Flores is the ninth former assistant to Bill Belichick to become a head coach."Two things that stand out immediately when you meet Brian are his football intelligence and leadership skills," Miami general manager Chris Grier said in a statement. "If you talk with anyone who has played for him or worked with him, you will hear about his ability to lead and get the most out of people. Brian sets a high standard for his players and coaches, and we are completely aligned with our vision on how to build a successful organization."Flores becomes the NFL's fourth minority head coach for 2019, which is half the total of last season. Diversity advocates have questioned the effectiveness of the Rooney Rule requiring teams to interview at least one minority candidate for any head coach or general manager vacancy.A former Boston College linebacker, Flores also coached offense and special teams with New England. He has a long relationship with Grier Damien Harris Buffalo Bills Jersey , who took charge of football operations in the recent organizational shake-up.Both started as scouts for the Patriots, the Dolphins' longtime nemeses in the AFC East. Flores will report to Grier under the team's new, more streamlined leadership structure.Flores becomes Miami's 10th head coach since 2004, including three interim coaches. He is leaving a team that won its sixth Super Bowl since 2002 to join a franchise that has not won a playoff game since 2000 and plans to rebuild after another dismal season. The Dolphins went 7-9 in 2018 to miss the playoffs for the 15th time in 17 years. They allowed 6,257 yards, the most in franchise history, and the offense was also among the league's worst, finishing ranked 31st.After Ross fired Gase Youth Drew Bledsoe Jerseys , he ordered a roster overhaul and acknowledged it may take several seasons to build a winner. The revamp is likely to include the departure of quarterback Ryan Tannehill, who has been with Miami since 2012 but has never taken a postseason snap.

Why deny court invasion after apologising to the judge? Femi Falana tackles DSS

Femi Falana, has lashed out at the Department of State Services (DSS) over its statement in which it denied invading a trial court to rearrest Omoyele Sowore.

Recall that the DSS alleged that the #RevolutionNow convener violated his bail conditions hence his rearrest. The secret police who insisted that they are a law-abiding agency, also claimed that Sowore's supporters “stage-managed the drama” in the Federal High Court to bring the service to disrepute.

Reacting to DSS' statement on his client's rearrest, Femi Falana wondered why head of the DSS team apologized to the presiding judge Ijeoma Ojukwu when asked to justify invasion of the court.

The human rights activist who further claimed that some of the DSS operatives disguised in lawyer’s outfit were inside the courtroom, averred that the head of the DSS team offered an apology before he was asked to withdraw his men from the courtroom.

Quote:“As soon as the case was adjourned the SSS pounced on Sowore and caused a disruption of the proceedings of the court. Having taken over the court room vi et armis Justice Ojukwu hurriedly rose and asked the Registrar to adjourn all other cases. After the learned trial judge had risen for the day she summoned the heads of the prosecution and defence teams to her chambers,” Falana said.
“When the lead prosecutor, Dr. Liman Hassan SAN denied knowledge of the invasion of her court she directed him to invite the head of the SSS team in the court. When challenged to justify the invasion of the court the officer could not. He apologised to Justice Ojukwu on behalf of the SSS. The judge then directed the officer to withdraw the SSS operatives from the courtroom. The directive was complied with as the operatives withdrew from the courtroom but rushed out to join their colleagues who had taken over the entire court house.
“Though, ordinarily, officers of the Service do not wear any uniform, on the 6th day of December, some of them were in mufti, many were not only armed but also masked while others disguised in lawyer’s black and white suit. Regardless of the form of appearance, the officers of the Service inside Court No. 7 were identifiable by their roles and acts of seizing Sowore and pinning him down.”

According to Falana the DSS operatives who couldn't provide a warrant of arrest also failed to inform the trial court that his client violated his bail conditions. He also described the arrest as illegal.

Quote:“Before submitting himself for arrest Sowore had rightly demanded for a warrant of arrest and detention order but the sss operatives were unable to produce either,” he said.
“In rationalizing the re-arrest of Sowore, which is denied in the same Press statement, the Serivce alleged that Sowore held metings with some people. Assuming without conceding that Sowore held meetings with some people in Transcorp Hotel as alleged by the sss, why did the Prosecution not inform the trial court that the defendant had breached his bail condition?"

Derek Carr was an MVP candidate in 2016 Derek Carr Jersey White , finishing third behind Matt Ryan and Tom Brady after leading the Raiders to a 12-3 record with 28 touchdowns and six interceptions. He was a Pro Bowler last year when he threw 22 touchdowns and 13 interceptions. Now, after a 4-12 record, 19 touchdowns and 10 interceptions, Carr is taking criticism. (Though he’s not taking it sitting down, challenging the hosts — or “clowns” — to a UFC fight.)General Manager Mike Mayock first defended Carr for his Twitter comments. Then, Thursday night, Mayock insisted the Raiders have their franchise quarterback in Carr.“When you look at 32 teams in this league, and there aren’t 32 starting quarterbacks, yet we have one of them,” Mayock said, via Michael Gehlken of the . “He’s a starting quarterback in the NFL. He can make every throw. We’ve got to do a better job of protecting him and giving him weapons. He played with two rookie tackles last year. We need to get more speed on offense. We need to be more dynamic.“Derek Carr, at this point Bo Jackson Jersey , is kind of the least of our problems.” Thursday the Raiders put tenders on three of their restricted free agents. Friday, they tore one of those tenders up. Instead of Erik Harris signing his original round tender, the safety and special teams maven signed a 2-year deal with the team, a source said. This deal was originally reported by NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport early Friday morning. The tender would have paid Harris $2.025 million on a one-year deal. His contract pays him a guaranteed $2.5 million for this season with a maximum of $6.5 million over two seasons. This deal is good for him and the team because if the 29-year-old plays well again this season as he did late last season, they will have him for another season at essentially the same price. Obviously it’s good for him because he gets a slight bump this year and potentially another year. The former CFLer will be entering his fourth NFL season, his third with the Raiders. Last season he appeared in all 16 games, earning his first four NFL starts and collecting his first and second career interceptions.Harris has a great story working his way to the NFL ranks. You can read that here. He also spoke to us on the Silver & Black Pridecast this offseason about continuing his momentum from last season. The Raiders have a need at safety, both to start and as depth and Harris will be right in the mix to retain that starting job next season. You can listen to that below.

ALLEN PARK Cheap Ty Johnson Jersey , Mich. (AP) — The Detroit Lions have released running back C.J. Anderson, quickly cutting ties with a player who helped the Los Angeles Rams reach the Super Bowl.Detroit made the relatively surprising move Tuesday night after adding running back Paul Perkins off waivers from the New York Giants.Anderson ran for 43 yards on 16 carries in two games, backing up Kerryon Johnson. He has 3,497 yards rushing and 22 touchdowns in his career in Denver, Carolina, Los Angeles and Detroit. The Giants drafted Perkins in the fifth round three years ago and he has 546 yards and 208 yards receiving.Earlier in the day, the Lions signed quarterback Jeff Driskel to add depth along with rookie David Blough behind Matthew Stafford and released quarterback Josh Johnson. The Bengals waived Driskel off the injured reserve list with an injury settlement last week. He had a hamstring injury during training camp and lost the No. 2 job to rookie Ryan Finley. San Francisco drafted the former Florida and Louisiana Tech player three years ago in the sixth round. He has completed 105 of 176 passes for 1,003 yards with six touchdowns and two interceptions.Detroit Lions vs. Tampa Bay Buccaneers preseason Week 3: Player of the Game Despite another poor start in the preseason, the Detroit Lions had a few good individual performances against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. After all Ty Johnson Jersey Womens , the Lions did mount at 21-point comeback victory. While many of the players that led that comeback are either backups or players that won’t be on the team in a couple weeks, they still deserve some love. But before we get into this week’s candidate for Game Ball, here are the standings after last week’s game (3 points for first place in voting, 2 for second place, 1 for third place.) Note: There was no Game Ball handed out in Week 1 of the preseasonPreseason Game Ball standingsBig Grinarius Slay - 3Theo Riddick - 2LeGarrette Blount - 1LeGarrette BlountBlount makes his second consecutive appearance on this list after displaying exactly why the Lions picked him up in free agency. Blount led all running backs with 11 carries for 45 yards on Friday night, but it was his situational running that really pushed him over the top. Blount’s best carry of the game came on fourth-and-1. He was hit in the backfield and looked like he was headed for a loss on the play, but his brute strength allowed him to push forward for a clutch conversion.Ricky Jean FrancoisIf there has been one defensive lineman who has been continually disruptive throughout both training camp and the preseason, it has been free agent pickup Ricky Jean Francois.Francois continues to show his comfort level in Matt Patricia’s defense, and on Friday it led to six tackles and a pressure or two on the quarterback. Brandon PowellLast week Ty Johnson Detroit Lions Jersey , Powell came fourth in voting. This week, I get the feeling he’ll be a tad higherTongueowell’s punt return touchdown was instrumental in the Lions’ comeback victory, but his night was not just limited to special teams contributions. Powell led the team in both receptions (six) and yards (45), catching every single target that came his way. It’s still hard to sell me on a fifth wide receiver on the 53-man roster, but if the Lions choose to go that route, Powell has to be a leading candidate right now.Hakeem VallesWhile the other tight ends continue to struggle to make an impact, Hakeem Valles is just rolling along looking like a player that could not only make the roster, but could contribute right away.Getting a fair amount of time with the starters, Vallen caught three passes for 38 yards Ty Johnson Jersey 2019 , including a huge third-down conversion when the Lions were backed up in their own side of the field. Those are the kind of plays that will endear you to a quarterback.Matt CasselFor as much as fans have panicked about the Lions’ backup quarterback situation, both put out strong efforts on Friday night. Though both quarterbacks still have yet to show the talent to go deep down field, Cassel had nice command of the offense against the Bucs. The Lions hadn’t scored a touchdown by the time Matthew Stafford left the game, but Cassel took over for two drives, and ended both with a touchdown. Granted, he was aided by some very solid rushing plays, but he even looked okay when he had to throw it.

The Vikings Boomer Esiason Jersey White , Broncos, Texans and Ravens being off in Week 10 means there are plenty of bye week players to replace in lineups. You'll be without the likes of Adam Thielen, Kirk Cousins, Phillip Lindsay, Emmanuel Sanders, DeAndre Hopkins and Deshaun Watson this week. Work the waiver wire aggressively and with a forward-looking focus.RUNNING BACKS DUKE JOHNSON JR., Browns (49.6 percent owned): He was cut in some very competitive leagues recently, but a coaching overhaul in Cleveland has led to Johnson quickly regaining fantasy relevance. Johnson caught nine passes for 78 yards on Sunday, and with the Browns lacking a quality second wideout he should remain in the flow going forward. Make him a top waiver priority or be willing to spend handsomely if your league uses a free agent acquisition budget. If you need RB help in a point-per-reception format, don't hesitate to spend 50 to 60 percent of your budget.MIKE DAVIS, Seahawks (18.5): He totaled 107 yards from scrimmage and caught seven passes on Sunday as Chris Carson could not make it out of the early stages of the game. Carson is already looking iffy this week with hip and groin problems and he has been a consistent injury concern. Davis is clearly preferred by the Seattle coaching staff over Rashaad Penny and faces the league's worst run defense (the Rams) in Week 10.JOSH ADAMS (3.0): We advised picking him up last week but he was only added in 2.5 percent of leagues. Many owners passed on him because Adams was on a bye week. Don't overlook players who have byes, when you can get the jump on passive league mates. Adams may start for the Eagles coming off the bye.WIDE RECEIVERSMARQUES VALDES-SCANTLING (20.8): Not enough owners paid attention to injury news late last week Carlos Dunlap Jersey White , which indicated Geronimo Allison would likely be out with a groin injury, boosting Valdes-Scantling's outlook again. Now Allison may be done for the season and Randall Cobb is oft-injured and only had 24 receiving yards last week. The rookie has either reached 100 yards or scored in his last four games and has quickly risen to fantasy WR3 status.ADAM HUMPHRIES, Buccaneers (2.8): In the past, he had flashed some potential to be a decent fantasy player, then totally defied expectations in Week 9 with eight catches for 82 yards and two TD receptions. He used to be more of a Jameis Winston favorite, but Ryan Fitzpatrick can use him as a reliable option from the slot.JOHN ROSS, Bengals (8.1): Ross has started to practice as he anticipates a potential return from a groin injury, and with A.J. Green possibly missing two games or more with a toe problem, Ross becomes a viable waiver target because of increased opportunity. Tyler Boyd may get extra defensive attention during Green's absence, and Ross will likely be more targeted more frequently. His big-play promise is no secret to seasoned fantasy players.TIGHT ENDSC.J. UZOMAH, Bengals (18.2): He has disappointed since becoming the clear No. 1 at his position in Cincinnati because of injuries, but Uzomah also still has some lingering appeal because of the Green injury. Andy Dalton will always consider his tight ends when inside the 10-yard line Anthony Munoz Jersey , and Uzomah has some TD potential while Green is out.JEFF HEUERMAN, Broncos (7.9): Here's a guy on a bye that you need to add now if TE is a desperation need. Heuerman immediately stepped into the Demaryius Thomas void left by the WR's departure, catching 10 passes for 83 yards and a TD in a career performance. While his statistical ceiling may not be as high as those numbers indicate going forward, you have to take a waiver chance on the improved production possibly lasting more than one game.QUARTERBACKLAMAR JACKSON, Ravens (1.5): This is a forward-looking waiver move where you possibly can get ahead of the rest of the league, as Baltimore is on a bye. Joe Flacco has four TD passes in his past five games and 398 passing yards with one TD and two interceptions in his last two outings. There could be a QB change coming in Baltimore soon. Jackson looked like an erratic passer in the preseason, but his rushing and playmaking skills point to some tantalizing fantasy possibilities if he gets inserted into the Ravens guiding role. The Bengals hired Zac Taylor as their head coach because of his experience on the offensive side of the ball Rodney Anderson Jersey 2019 , but that experience has not featured a lot of time as a play caller at the NFL level.Taylor spent a little over a month calling the plays for the Dolphins when they made him interim offensive coordinator after firing Bill Lazor in 2015 and he also served as the offensive coordinator at the University of Cincinnati in 2016. He returned to the NFL with the Rams for the last two seasons as a position coach before landing the Bengals job.Taylor said after his introductory press conference Tuesday, via Richard Skinner of WKRC, that he will be calling the plays for the Bengals in 2019. Two evil men who have been terrorising and killing people with charms in Isieke Okija, Anambra State were caught and handcuffed.

According to eyewitness, they have killed many souls in the village.

Below is what he shared....

'Today I bless the name of the Lord for exposing some of the evil men in my village, Isieke okija. Mr Christopher Ugochukwu (A.k.a Omega) And Mr Boniface Chukwurah ( A.k.a ulopka).

These men are responsible for Killing and caging peoples Destiny, they have committed a lot of atrocities in Isieke Okija. They have buried a lot of charms in peoples houses recently, but my Bible made me to understand that any seed that is not planted by my heavenly Father shall be uprooted by fire.

When ever I remember the death of my Father  Chief Benjamin Anajuba Ikegwuoha (EZEAMAMA 1 OKIJA)  whom this men killed along side with his 2 wives (Lolo Paulina Esienaonu Ikegwuoha and also Lolo Alice Ejieyiato Ikegwuoha) who died few months ago and still in the mortuary, I feel so much pain and heartbroken. Now there next Target was my Senior Brother (Chief Akusinachi 1 of Okija)  which  his name was written on a list caught with the native doctor from Uli umuoma village in anambra state that did the charms for them.

That list bears the names of their target victims to be killed with charms before Christmas. The charms has been prepared and already buried in the various homes of some targeted victims But God of vengeance exposed them on the mission to bury the charm in my Brothers house. With God exposing them this time around I believe they have  committed a lot of abominations and wasted innocent blood to there wickedness and so shall God keep exposing all the evil men in my Land and your Land in Jesus name Amen.

Sowore: DSS asked to produce ‘thuggish officers’

 December 8, 2019

Dr. Joe Okei-Odumakin, President, Centre for Change, has asked the Department of State Services (DSS) to produce the officers who acted in a “thuggish” manner on Friday.

She also called on the federal government to stop embarrassing itself and ensure that the rule of law is respected.

Operatives on Friday chased out lawyers from the courtroom and re-arrested Omoyele Sowore, convener of RevolutionNow.

Following the invasion of the courtroom, the trial judge, Justice Ijeoma Ojukwu adjourned the matter till February 11, 12 and 13 for definite hearing.

In a statement on Sunday titled ‘Sowore:This is crossing The Line’, the renowned activist declared that the conduct of the DSS was vicious.

Okei-Odumakin said: “Our attention has been drawn to the brazen and barbaric invasion of the Federal High court where Omoyele Sowore was being tried.

“The gangsteric conduct of the men said to be DSS operatives which led to the chasing away of the presiding judge, harassment of lawyers and journalists and man-handling of Sowore was a crude assault on the hallowed seat of justice and further desecration of our judiciary.

“Any society that tolerates this thuggish disposition of its security forces is lost beyond redemption.

“The only way the government can attempt to prove it does not sanction this beastial conduct is to fish out those responsible for this barbaric conduct and ensure the rule of law is followed in the case of Sowore.”

Sowore: DSS Invasion Of Court #nextlevel Of Dictatorship, Impunity- Timi Frank
User Avatar Forum: General Discussion
Posted by: Edoman - 12-08-2019, 04:49 PM - No Replies

A political activist and former Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Comrade Timi Frank, Sunday, described the invasion of the Federal High Court Abuja, by agents of the Department of State Services (DSS) to re-arrest the #RevolutionNow Convener, Omoyele Sowore, as the implementation of General Muhammadu Buhari’s #NextLevel of dictatorship and impunity.

Frank who strongly condemned the gestapo attack and flagrant desecration of the nation’s Temple of Justice, urged Nigerians to be alarmed over the total disregard for the rule of law and fundamental human rights of Nigerians by the present administration.

He said what happened in court on Friday is a consummation of the complete annexation of both the legislature and the judiciary by Buhari-led executive.

Frank said: “We have seen the DSS invade the home of Justices at midnight. We have seen the invasion of the National Assembly by the DSS. We have seen the sack of a Chief Justice of Nigeria by this administration.

“We have seen the hand picking of Presiding Officers for the ninth National Assembly. What further evidence do we need to conclude that this is total dictatorship and reign of impunity rather than democracy and rule of law?”

He said that Sowore’s ordeal represents the greater ordeal Nigerians have been facing since 2015 and will continue to face in the hands of Buhari.

He warned that the current push to pass the Social Media and Hate Speech Bills is a direct conspiracy between the executive and legislature to criminalize rightful dissent in the face of unlawful government practices.

“Why has the National Assembly not introduced a Bill to hang looters? They cannot do this because they know some of their members and those in the executive will be the first victims of such a law.

“They are after the common man on the street who may be dissatisfied with their dictatorial style and kleptomaniac tendencies,” Frank declared.

He wondered why the Presidency was quick to condemn the attack on the Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi in Spain but failed to condemn the renewed assault against the nation’s judiciary by the DSS.

He further wondered why the CJN and the AGF have failed to censure the unholy and brazen attack on a court of law.

“The invasion of Justice Ijeoma Ojukwu’s court and attempts to surreptitiously deal with the learned Justice for granting Sowore bail must be condemned by all,” he said

He accused Buhari of desperation to hang on to power at all cost even if it means the declaration of martial law and the total subjugation of the people.

“After the total pacification of Nigerians through the gagging of the media with the Hate Speech and Social Media laws, Nigeria will become a police state where inalienable freedoms will be completely suspended.

“The people are being bludgeoned into silence by security forces. Very soon it would be a silence of the grave, if care is not taken,” he warned.

He urged Nigerians to speak up or risk a worsened situation as the plot to grant Buhari a third term in office takes root.

“While US Senators have joined in helping to preserve democracy in Nigeria by their strong condemnation of the court invasion and re-arrest of Sowore by the DSS, our own ‘rubber stamp’ legislature has not deemed it fit to stand up for democracy in the country,” he lamented.

He also called on the United States and the European Union to prevail on China and other international financial institutions to stop granting loans to Nigeria which are being amassed by the present administration to finance an illegal third term bid.

“Lovers of democracy across the world must not keep silent and watch democracy in Nigeria go down the drain of dictatorship once again,” he said.

Signed:

Comrade Timi Frank
Political Activist

Engr. Mamman assured that the federal government was ready to collaborate and support every state willing to invest in the power sector and pledged to assist the Cross Rivers State government in its current endeavour. Conducting the Minister round the project sites, the state governor, Prof. Ben Ayade said his administration has also initiated the construction of 250 kilometre distance of 330KVA transmission line to connect the northern part of the state up to Obudu Cattle Ranch to ensure the entire state has adequate power supply. Richard Akinola, Group to Falana: Blaming Osinbajo, Other Lawyers in Buhari's Cabinet Over DSS Misconduct is Mischievous

*Both recall how VP as Ag. President acted in similar case when DSS invaded National Assembly
*Buck stops squarely on Mr. President's desk, not lawyers in FEC
Veteran journalist and lawyer, Richard Akinola and a political group have faulted Femi Falana, SAN over comments that the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) should discipline all lawyers in the Buhari administration because of the desecration of the law courts by officers of the DSS yesterday at a Federal High Court in Abuja.
In his reaction on Saturday, Mr Akinola said, “With the greatest respect to my good friend, Femi Falana, SAN, l beg to disagree with him in respect of his statement in respect of the Vice president on the Sowore saga.
Falana was indicting the Vice President and other Learned Silks in the cabinet for not speaking up on the saga. “It's necessary to put things in proper perspective. There is only ONE presidency. By my understanding, the VP cannot be issuing statements on an issue when there is a sitting president.
He added that, “Recall that when Osinbajo was acting as president and similar incident happened at the National Assembly, he took action. The invasion of NASS started at about 7am and by 10.30 am, Lawal Daura had been fired as the DG of DSS.
“So, it would be unfair to attack the VP on this matter because he is just the VP. The buck stops at the president's table. If in the president's wisdom, he refused to take action, he must have his reason. Ours is to speak out for him to take action,” he said.
Similarly, a political group in Nigeria has described as mischievous the comments credited to Mr. Falana.

Falana reportedly made the statement following the re-arrest of Omoyele Sowore, convener, #RevolutionNow protest, and his co-defendant, Olawale Bakare by the Department of State Services (DSS).

In a press statement signed by Peter Oladele, Publicity Secretary of the Initiative to Save Democracy (ISD) the group said the lawyers in the Buhari administration have not acted in any unprofessional capacity to warrant any disciplinary action.

Besides, the group noted that regarding the Vice President in particular it is an unrealistic expectation to require him to respond officially on the misconduct of the DSS agents because the executive powers of the Federal Government are vested only in the person of the President not the Vice President or the lawyers in the Cabinet.

"Besides the President who has the Executive powers in the 1999 Nigerian Constitution as Amended, the only person who has responsibility on this matter is the Attorney-General of the Federation," the group explained, adding "this facts are well known to Mr. Falana."

The Initiative to Save Democracy (ISD) also recalled that while the VP was acting for President Buhari and the DSS invaded the National Assembly, Prof Osinbajo acted in defense of rule of law and democracy in the country by removing the head of the organization and condemning the invasion. ISD then asked "why does Mr. Falana now think the VP or the lawyers in the cabinet could not advise the President to act in a similar way, afterall it is the same Buhari Presidency?

“Mr Falana is a Senior Advocate of Nigeria and he should know that Section 11 of the NBA’s Legal Practitioners Act has specific penalties for unprofessional conduct and there is no provision for disciplining lawyers for the actions of other people,” the group said.

“So how do you call for disciplinary actions against colleagues who have not acted in any unprofessional capacity or have not breached the rules of professional conduct,” the group quizzed.

The group then advised Mr Falana to rid himself of any emotional outbursts that could overshadow what is otherwise a noble work he is doing on the Sowore matter, stressing that, as a senior lawyer he should know who has what powers and where the buck stops in a Presidential system of government such as Nigeria is currently practising.

“As a group we have condemned the actions of the DSS and have called for the immediate release of Mr Sowore because the court has ordered his release. We also condemn the re-arrest of Mr Sowore by the DSS it only puts Nigeria in bad light. And we should not use this unfortunate incidents to dent the image of lawyers in the Buhari cabinet."

'‘Do they think we are all dummies?’' Bishop Oyedepo once again speaks against social media bill (video)

Bishop David Oyedepo, the senior pastor of the Living Faith Church Worldwide, has once again kicked against the proposed Social Media Bill being deliberated upon in the Nigerian Senate. The social media bill has passed the second reading in the senate.

Speaking at a programme in his church, Oyedepo said what the Federal government should look out for is hate acts and not hate speech. According to him, hate act which is witnessed in many parts of the country is far worse than hate speech.

Quote:“They are looking for hate speech, they are not looking for hate act. Which one is worse, hate speech or hate act? They’ll see somebody and cut his head and you’re free and they’ll see somebody and say you’re stupid then you die. Can you imagine that? It is a stone age mentality. But I think we’re free from it now, but there is nothing wrong in trying to make attempt. Do they think we are all dummies?”

The clergyman went further to ask his members if the Buhari-led government was doing well and they unanimously chorused No.

Quote:“What education do you have, where did you get it from that you want to bamboozle everybody? You’re not doing well, you’re not doing well. They must tell you you’re not doing well. Hear me, please hear me and answer me, is this government doing well?” he said

Conviction: We will not declare Orji Uzor Kalu's seat vacant until he exhausts all legal options- Nigerian Senate

The Nigerian Senate says it will not be declaring vacant the seat of one of its member, Orji Uzor Kalu, despite his conviction by the Federal High Court Lagos.

The Federal High Court in a landmark judgement delivered on Thursday December 5th, sentenced Orji Uzor Kalu to 12 years imprisonment for N7.1 billion fraud perpetrated while he was governor of Abia state.

Following the judgement, there have been calls for the senate to declare Kalu's seat vacant.

However, spokesperson of the Senate, Senator Godiya Akwashiki, said Kalu's seat will not be vacant until he exhasuts all legal options.

Quote:“The Senate has no reason to declare his seat vacant. This is not the first time that such a thing would happen. There is no provision in the constitution that says the seat of any senator facing prosecution or convicted at a lower court should be declared vacant. He still has the opportunity to appeal the case.
“Even the tenure of a former governor Joshua Dariye, who has been in prison for some time now, ran its course until the end of the 8th National Assembly. Nobody declared his seat vacant. The Senate President cannot declare the seat of Kalu vacant. It is against the law.
“Tell those who are canvassing such things that there is nothing like that, it is a non-issue'' he said

He however did not confirm if Kalu will still be receiving his salary as a senator while in prison.

Joseph Prince Buys Singapore's Mall Of N80 Billion Without Raising Offering
User Avatar Forum: News
Posted by: Edoman - 12-08-2019, 12:01 PM - No Replies

The Star Vista is a popular mall in Singpore and already houses The Star Performing Arts Centre, home to Prince's 30,000-strong New Creation Church.

Deacon Yong Chee Ram told The Straits Times that the church had decided to buy the mall so that there would not be any risk to using the space if the property changed hands to a new owner.

"Given that The Star Vista and The Star PAC are inextricably linked, our immediate objective ... is both to protect the interest of the church and to preserve the good experience for all who come to The Star PAC," Ram said.

The sale was made by one of Asia's biggest real estate groups, CapitaLand Limited.

Jason Leow, president of CapitaLand Group Singapore & International said: "The divestment of The Star Vista is in line with CapitaLand's active and disciplined asset recycling strategy. Year to date, CapitaLand has divested close to S$5.7 billion worth of assets, exceeding our annual target divestment of S$3 billion. The proceeds from these divestments will enhance CapitaLand's financial flexibility to seize new growth opportunities."

In 2016, the church said it had paid $366m for the Star PAC, which seats 5,000 people.

It told the Strait Times that it already had the funds to purchase the mall, so did not need to launch a fundraising drive to cover the cost of the acquisition.

RHAPSODY OF REALITIES

SUNDAY, 8TH DECEMBER.

DON’T PLAY GAMES WITH YOUR CHRISTIANITY

But that which ye have already hold fast till I come (Revelation 2:25).

One of the things you must make up your mind to do is to be very serious with your Christianity. Don’t profane spiritual things or play games with the Spirit. Some people become so carnal and casual with spiritual things and don’t realise when they’ve walked away from God and His plan for their lives.
It’s like what happened to Saul, the King of Israel.

He had gone too far in the wrong direction that even when Samuel the prophet was interceding for him, God said, “No need; I’ve found someone else to replace him” (read 1 Samuel 16:1). God’s plan was for Saul to have an eternal dynasty in Israel, but he lost it, and David got it.

Esau’s story is another painful one. The Bible says, “Lest there be any fornicator, or profane person, as Esau, who for one morsel of meat sold his birthright” (Hebrews 12:16). How sad! Afterwards, when he attempted to get the same blessing he had profaned, the Bible says in Hebrews 12:17, “…he was rejected: for he found no place of repentance, though he sought it carefully with tears.” His tears didn’t make any difference; it was too late. This happens to many.

Imagine that a brother was made a cell leader or Bible study class teacher, but because someone “offended” him in the church, he was upset enough to walk away from his responsibility towards his cell members. He even decided he’d no longer be a member of the church. That’s so wrong.

Hebrews 12:15 says, “Looking diligently lest any man fail of the grace of God; lest any root of bitterness springing up trouble you, and thereby many be defiled.” Don’t allow bitterness or anger prevent you from fulfilling your destiny in Christ. Make up your mind to live in the Word, and by the Spirit of God. Follow spiritual instructions and be excited about your service in the house of God.

PRAYER

Dear Father, thank you for your grace at work in me to do your will, and fulfil my destiny. I’m running my race to the finish line, focusing all my energies on being all that Christ Jesus saved me for, and destined me to be, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.

Affirmation

8th December

I affirm that God has lavished His grace on me, with all Sophia and Phronesis. I am an answer from God! My experience in life is different because I am full of the wisdom of God.

My faculties are all submitted to the wisdom of God. Wisdom is using my mind; wisdom is using my brain; wisdom is using me, walking and functioning through me.

The Wisdom of God has made His home in me; I’ve got wisdom for every situation. God has made me wise and I am a wonder to my world. Everywhere I go, the lines are fallen unto me in pleasant places, for I have a goodly heritage. I know what to do at all times because the wisdom of God is functioning through me. Hallelujah!

I am a problem solver; a solution bringer. I am an answer from God! I am relevant and needed everywhere. I see and hear by the spirit; I know and understand by the Spirit. I am a spirit-led man (woman, boy or girl) and I am full of the Holy Ghost. I’ve got the life of God in me; thus, I’ll never be sick.

There’s only one way in my life; it is the way of prosperity, it is the way of victory, it is the way of success. I do not fail because victory is already mine! I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.

Greater is He that is in me than he that is in the world. Greater is He that is in me than the darkness in the world. Greater is He that is in me than the wickedness and evil in the world. Greater is He that is in me than the violence in the world.

I am moving forward by the speed of the Holy Spirit and my light is shining brighter and brighter unto the perfect day. Glory to God. Hallelujah!

God bless you

The 35-year-old man in Ghana, Kofi Bandoli, was arrested by Awutu Bereku district police station for beating his wife into a state of coma after he caught her having sex with another man in their matrimonial bed.

It was gathered that the man went to work and tried to call his wife who was at home for some information but tried several times and couldn’t reach her.

He then decided to go home and see whether something had happened to her because this was unusual.

As he approached his room, he heard the sounds of someone moaning only to find his wife having sex with another man.

If any harm comes to Sowore, there will consequences in our relationship with Nigeria - US Senator Robert Menendez (video)

New Jersey Senator and member of the US senate foreign relations committee, Robert Menendez has condemned the arrest of Omoyele Sowore at the Federal High Court in Abuja which ignited an uproar.

The most senior Democrat in the US Senate who wondered if President Muhammadu Buhari is not aware that the arrest is tarnishing his image, stated that the #RevolutionNow covener ought to be celebrated and not incarcerated.

Menendez added that there will be consequences in US' relationship with Nigeria if any harm comes to Sowore.

Quote:“The United States is watching and the world is watching. I fear that the blatant harassment of Mr Omoyele Sowore, an activist and journalist whose only crime appears to be exercising his right to free expression, is becoming symptomatic of increasingly closing political and civic space in Nigeria,” Menendez said.
“The Nigerian court has twice ordered his release on bail. And the state security agencies openly defied the court order each time leaving me to conclude that either Nigeria no longer respects the rule of law or President Buhari is woefully out of touch with what agents of his governments are doing in his name.
“This is unacceptable in a country that calls itself a democracy. Journalists who risk their lives to expose the truth should be celebrated, not incarcerated.
“It is unacceptable to that the husband and father of a US citizen with such blatant cruelty. Today, my office contacted our ambassador in Nigeria in an effort to obtain answers on what actions the United States is taking on the Sowore family’s behalf.
“In the next several days, I’ll continue to engage with the states department in Washington to ascertain the impart of what the arrest of Mr Sowore and other activists and journalists will have on our relationship with Nigeria. My hope is that the bilateral relationship we have with Nigeria will be reassessed in light of these events.”

Soyinka Compares DSS With Dog, Says Dogs More Civilised
User Avatar Forum: News
Posted by: Edoman - 12-07-2019, 02:47 PM - No Replies

Eniola Akinkuotu, Abuja

Quote:Nobel Laureate, Prof. Wole Soyinka, says dogs act more civilised than the operatives of the Department of State Services that stormed the Federal High Court, Abuja, on Friday, to re-arrest the Publisher of Sahara Reporters, Omoyele Sowore.

Soyinka said this in a statement titled, ‘Lessons from the African Wild Dog (Lycaeon Pictus)’ on Friday.

He said, “A few years ago, I watched the video of a pack of the famed African wild dogs hunt, eventually bring down, and proceed to devour a quarry.

“It was an impala, antelope family. The pack isolated the most vulnerable looking member of the herd – it was pregnant – pursued it, until it fled to a waterhole which, for such animals, is the nearest thing to a sanctuary.

“A few minutes ago, almost as it was happening, I watched the video of a pack of the DSS bring down, and fight over their unarmed, totally defenceless quarry within the sanctuary of a court of law.

“I found little or no difference between the two scenarios, except that the former, the wild dogs, exhibited more civilised table manners than the DSS in court manners.”

The playwright said recalled that only on Thursday in his commentary on the ongoing Sowore saga, he pointed out the near perfect similarity between plain crude thuggery and the current rage of court disobedience.

“Little did I suspect that the state children of disobedience would aspire to the level of the African wild dogs on a pack hunt”, he said.
Soyinka apologised for underestimating the shameful depths the DSS could go.

He reminded the Muhammadu Buhari-led government that obedience to court orders was the cornerstone of democracy.

The Nobel Laureate said, “May I remind this government that disobedience calls to disobedience, and that disobedience of the orders of the constitutional repository of the moral authority of arbitration – the judiciary – can only lead eventually to a people’s disregard of the authority of other arms of civil society, a state of desperation that is known, recognised and accepted as – civil disobedience.

“It is so obvious – state disobedience leads eventually to civil disobedience, piecemeal or through a collective withdrawal of recognition of other structures of authority. That way leads to chaos but – who set it in motion? As is often the case, the state, unquestionably. Such a state bears full responsibility for the ensuing social condition known as anomie.”

In what seemed to be a final warning to the President, the octogenarian asked Buhari to control his dogs.

“It has become imperative and urgent to send this message to President-General Buhari: Rein in your wild dogs of disobedience. And for a start, get a trainer to teach them some basic court manners!” Soyinka said.

NNPC, NSCDC officials siphoned fuel day before pipeline explosion – Suspect

Pastor Clement Oni, one of the suspected vandals arrested in connection with the explosion of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation pipeline in Baruwa, Alimosho Local Government Area of Lagos on Thursday, has indicted some officials of the corporation as well as men of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps.

Oni, the pastor in charge of the celestial church, Imole Ayo Parish in Baruwa, said about eight NNPC officials in company with some NSCDC men had come to fix leakage from the pipeline on Wednesday.

The 56-year-old man explained that in the process of fixing the leakage, fuel gushed out and officials of two agencies reportedly siphoned it into several jerry cans which they took away.

He stated that the NNPC workers also gave him seven jerry cans of fuel and allowed some local security men manning the facility to help themselves to the product.

Oni, who spoke to journalists on Friday at the police headquarters in Ikeja, stated that the officials left on Wednesday unable to fix the leakage and promised to return the next day, adding that they were about to resume work on Thursday morning when the explosion started.

The inferno reportedly broke out after a pastor administering a spiritual bath on his church member in a stream around the pipeline lighted a candle.

Fuel from the pipeline was said to have flowed into the stream, resulting in the fire which travelled to the leaking spot.

One person died on the spot while another victim, who suffered about 90 degrees burns was admitted to the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, Ikeja.

In the wake of the explosion, police raided the affected area, and arrested Oni with several fuel-laden jerry cans found buried on his church, premises where he also lives.

Three other suspects – Omo Opeku, Rasheed Ajibade and Yusuf Waheed – were also apprehended by the police, with 14 sacks of fuel suspected to have been siphoned from the pipeline.

Oni, in an interview with our correspondent, denied involvement in pipeline vandalism, insisting that NNPC officials gifted him the fuel for his generosity.

He said, “On Wednesday, December 4, 2019, about eight NNPC officials came to repair the pipeline which was vandalised about three months ago. They identified themselves as maintenance officers and some NSCDC men came with them. They asked me to help them get five labourers to work with them but I was able to get three. They gave them N30,000 after work that day.

“In the course of repair, they removed the stick that was used to block the leakage but they did not succeed in fixing the fault and fuel was gushing out like flood. They siphoned it and gave me seven jerry cans to power the church’s generator.

“The NSCDC officials and local security men guarding the pipeline also siphoned fuel into jerry cans and took it away. Three of the local security men are called Ejo, Agbara and Dublin.”

The pastor stated that most of the jerry cans recovered by the police belonged to Dublin, adding that he buried the fuel to prevent fire outbreak.

“The NNPC officials came around 7am on Thursday to resume the maintenance. They were about to start work when the explosion happened,” he said.

Asked to name the officials, he said could only identify their faces.

Ajibade, 40, a resident of Ojuelegba, said one Ade, who is at large, had asked him and his accomplices to convey the fuel to Ijora from Iyana Ipaja.

He said they were waiting for Ade at the destination when the police rounded them up.

He stated, “Ade brought out the fuel packed in 14 sacks from a building around 11pm and asked us to take it to Phase 3, Ijora. He promised to meet us there. I didn’t bother to ask him where he got it. This is the first time he would involve me in something like this.”

The police spokesperson in the state, DSP Bala Elkana, dismissed the pastor’s allegation against the NNPC officials but said investigation had commenced to reveal the truth.

He said, “The excuse that the maintenance officers gave him the fuel is not adding up. Which maintenance officers from NNPC would give individuals fuel while they are trying to do away with people vandalising their pipelines?
“We are searching our beam light at the community to fish out those who are involved. The Commissioner of Police is determined to bring an end to this.”

The spokesperson for the NSCDC, Lagos State Command, Kehinde Bada, confirmed that NNPC workers were at the area on Wednesday to fix the leaking pipeline and officials of the corps provided security for them. She, however, refuted the claim that the men siphoned fuel.

She said, “Why will the NNPC officers and our men be there to scoop fuel? When we get (petroleum) product, we hand it over to the NNPC and if there is leakage from pipeline, we inform the NNPC and ensure we are at the scene for safety.

“They started fixing the pipeline but they could not finish the work because it was creeping into night. By the time they got there the next day, there was explosion already. Today (Friday), we were there all through and it has been fixed. Our men and the commandant were on the ground. It is not possible that our men siphoned fuel. The man (Oni) was actually arrested by our men from Alimosho office.”

Efforts to get the comment of the Group Manager, Group Public Affairs Division, NNPC, Mr Samson Makoji, proved abortive as he did not pick up our correspondent’s calls to his mobile. He had also yet to reply to a message sent to him on the allegation as of press time.

But in a statement on Wednesday, Makoji had said that “preliminary reports of the incident indicated that the pipeline might have been torched by an act of vandalism by suspected oil thieves, who hacked into the line to intercept the flow of petrol.

Axxela Limited, a gas and power portfolio company, has pledged commitment to West African sub-region’s industrialisation via the build out of its natural gas infrastructure.

Speaking at the Ghana Gas Forum (GGF) in Accra, Ghana, Axxela Head of Sales and Marketing, Tunde Baba-Agba, said: “Natural gas is now highly regarded as a key resource of the energy sector, and a key component geared towards value creation for West Africa’s economies. We’re confident that our strategic initiatives and the expansion of our operational footprint particularly within the virtual pipeline, gas processing and distribution, and embedded power spaces will help unlock the vast potential within important economic clusters across the region.”

A Helios Investment Partners LLP portfolio company, Axxela is a designated natural gas shipper on the West African Gas Pipeline (WAGP). The company is also the pioneering private sector-led developer of natural gas distribution in Nigeria, delivering at peak 80 million standard cubic feet per day to over 175 industrial and commercial customers via a vast network of gas infrastructure. With over 280km in gas pipeline infrastructure built, Axxela provides unique energy solutions primarily through its main subsidiaries – Gaslink Nigeria Limited, Gas Network Services Limited, and Central Horizon Gas Company Limited.

Addressing regional collaboration and integration, Head of the Executive Committee, The Gas Consortium, organisers of the event, Senam Gbeho, said: “By implementing the right policies and decision-making structures, the region’s gas resources can be the catalyst that eliminates the continent’s distressing poverty levels. With the combined population and market size of the respective countries within the region, a real opportunity exists to collectively leverage existing gas resources, pursuant of industrialisation for economic transformation and social welfare.”

Held annually, the Ghana Gas Forum is an indigenous knowledge resource suited to players in the natural gas industry with shared interests in policymaking and gas monetization efforts within Ghana and the sub-region. This year’s forum theme was ‘Promoting dynamic policymaking towards the optimization of regional gas resources’, with discourse centred on relevant gas policy issues that impact the sustainable development of the gas sector by promoting a cross-disciplinary understanding of policy tools and options.

Focus on gas development, Kyari tells PETAN
December 5, 2019

The Group Managing Director, Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Mallam Mele Kyari, has charged oil service operators, under the aegis of the Petroleum Technology Association of Nigeria (PETAN), to focus more on gas development. The event was PETAN’s 2019 Annual Clients’ Appreciation and Industry Achievement Awards Dinner held in Lagos, EMEKA UGWUANYI was there and reports.

The Group Managing Director, Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Mallam Mele Kyari, has advised members of the Petroleum Technology Association of Nigeria (PETAN) to focus more on gas development to support the Federal Government’s effort to reduce hazardous emission.

Kyari, represented by the Chief Operating Officer (COO), Gas and Power, NNPC, Mr. Yusuf Usman, at PETAN’s 2019 Clients’ Appreciation and Industry Achievement Awards held in Lagos, said the use of gas for sustainable development has become paramount in policy formation in Africa.

He said: “PETAN members should focus on gas development. We are a gas province as a country and there is need to develop gas because it is cheap, clean, environmentally friendly and affordable. We can help save the environment by substituting coal with gas, therefore, reducing emissions by half.”

The Chairman of PETAN, Mr. Bank-Anthony Okoroafor, in his remarks, assured the NNPC chief and stakeholders that PETAN was committed to ensuring a sustainable environment for business.

“PETAN remains committed to partnering with all stakeholders to create enabling environment for investment to thrive. PETAN was formed to utilise the technical know-how that abounds in the oil and gas industry by Nigerians as a springboard for economic change and technological advancement of our nation.

“This we have been pursuing since 1990. It was in 2010 that PETAN developed a 4Cs strategic plan-Capacity building,w Capitalisation, Collaboration and Consolidation, to identify and leverage capacity gaps from the Local Content Act, consolidate and expand end-to-end capacities across the value chain.”

He said PETAN would be 30 years in March 2020 and invited the audience to celebrate the milestone with PETAN in grand style.

“I will be inviting the industry to celebrate with us in working with the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB) and the National Assembly to increase retained earnings from five per cent to more than 27 per cent; to increase equipment ownership, drilling rigs, cementing, simulation and wellheads, among others to more than 90 per cent,” he added.

Okoroafor noted that PETAN would work to increase (indigenous) vessel ownership from less than 10 per cent to more than 40 per cent; fabrication tonnage from nothing to about 60,000 metric tonnes; iron processing, pipe-coating, pipe-laying, operation and maintenance, FPSO integration and engineering design, among others.

He stated that this year’s award night theme: Oilfield of the Future: operational Excellence, is to re-emphasise the long-standing PETAN philosophy for the growth of the industry, which is professional excellence.

“That was why we initiated a PETAN’s Seal of Quality to sanitise our operations and certify our people in particular and the industry in general. The process has fully commenced and a number of our members have been certified in conjunction with Bureau Veritas. In the last four years, my executive team have been working on getting a befitting secretariat, conferences and meeting venue for the association and for the use of the industry and stakeholders. As you are aware, there is no functioning facility that can be used for the industry events in Port Harcourt, the oil city of Nigeria where many of us began our career.

“Graciously, the governor of Rivers State Nyesom Wike has provided us a location just by the Port Harcourt International Airport. We will be conducting the groundbreaking ceremony for the project first quarter of 2020. We urge all our partners to join us to deliver the best oil and gas museum for the country,” he said.

A Nigerian pirate linked to the Dutch-flagged freight ship hijack in 2018, has been arrested in South Africa and handed over to Dutch authorities.

The identity of the 29-year-old Nigerian suspect was not released, but it was learnt that he has already been handed a two weeks jail sentence as investigation continues.

The Nigerian man who was arrested late last year in South Africa and flown to the Netherlands on Thursday December 5, was accused of being one of the pirates who hijacked the FWN Rapide which was sailing under a Dutch flag in April last year off the coast of western Africa.

Netherlands Public Prosecution Service in its statement, said 11 of the ship’s 14-strong crew were taken hostage and held in the jungles of Nigeria and Cameroon before being released in May 2018 after the shipping company paid a ransom.

A Dutch Judge ordered that the Nigerian man be remanded in prison while investigation continues after a closed door hearing on Friday December 6.
