Buhari’s Kinsmen Attack Aisha Over Villa Crisis - Punch
User Avatar Forum: News
Posted by: Edoman - 12-13-2019, 09:26 AM - No Replies

Quote:Kinsmen of the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), have faulted his wife, Aisha, over her Wednesday’s statement, which attacked the Senior Special Assistant to the President, Garba Shehu.

The kinsmen in Daura, in separate exclusive interviews with the Kastina State correspondent of The PUNCH, on Wednesday evening, berated Mrs Buhari for making what they called a purely private family affair, public.

Mrs Buhari, had in the statement on Wednesday morning, said, “It was Garba Shehu, who claimed that the government would not allow the office of the first lady to run. He was later to confirm to one of my aides that he was instructed to say so by Mamman Daura and not the President. This antic attracted the anger of Nigerian women. He didn’t realise the fact that the first lady’s office is a tradition which has become an institution.”

Commenting on the statement by Aisha Buhari, residents of Daura, the home town of the President, said the first lady should have reported the matter to her husband.

Attack on Shehu akin to attacking Buhari – Daura associations

The Chairman of the Coalition of Associations in Daura, Mallam Muhammed Saleh, in an interview with The PUNCH, said Mrs Buhari’s feud with Shehu should be seen as a pure private affair.

He said that the outburst by the wife of the President was not good enough. According to him, attacking Shehu was akin to attacking Buhari.

Saleh said, “I try as much to refrain myself from commenting on the issue as some people are bound to misinterpret whatever one says on the issue. But I need to stress that this is a family affair which should be resolved.

“Attacking Garba Shehu who is the spokesperson for the President is akin to attacking the President himself and I think , this is not good enough. I will urge all of them to resolve any issue at stake privately.”

Aisha is giving wrong impression of her husband – Daura elder

Ronaldo’s market value drops in Serie A
But another elder in Daura, Alhaji Usman Kalgo, said the first lady’s public outburst on Shehu was an insult to Buhari.

Kalgo said, “ If Aisha sees any shortcomings on the part of Garba Shehu or any other person working for her husband, the best person to complain to is her husband and not making the issue public.

“The President knew that Garba Shehu was competent before giving him the job of a spokesman and if there is a feud between Aisha and him or any other person, Aisha should respect her husband. She should report Shehu to her husband and not making it public. By making the issue public, she is giving a wrong impression of her husband, which is not good enough.”

A lawyer, who is an indigene of the town, Ado Lalu, said the wife of the President’s approach of making the issue public would not solve the problem.

Lalu said the feud between the first lady and Shehu or any other person in the Presidency ought to have been resolved behind closed doors.

Lalu said,” Logically, attacking Garba Shehu publicly by the first lady is not good enough. The first lady has a direct access to the President and she could have discussed the issue that concerns her with him. Making her grievances public will not help matters.

“Even if he (President) is busy to attend to her complaints now because of his tight schedule, she will always get time to discuss the issue with the President. There are several ways of making one’s grievances known not by making such public, which will only aggravate matters. This is a strictly private matter and should be settled privately.”

It’s a family affair – Daura emirate

But the Spokesman for the Daura Emirate Council, Mallam Usman Ibrahim, when contacted on the phone, said, “It is a family matter and we don’t speak on family issues.”

It’s a family affair – Emir of Gusau

In Zamfara State, the Emir of Gusau, Alhaji Ibrahim Bello, told The PUNCH through his Protocol Officer, Alhaji Abdulkadir Usman, that the issue was entirely a family affair.

He stated, “It is a family affair; it is not an official issue, as such, I wouldn’t want to talk much about it.”

Before the 2019 elections, the President’s wife had alleged that those who did not contribute to the election of her husband in 2015, were benefiting from the regime.

The crisis between the first lady and Daura’s family worsened in October, when the President’s nephew’s daughter, Fatima, released a video.

Fatima, in an interview with the BBC Hausa Service, admitted that she recorded the video that went viral to provide proof for her parents and security officials about Mrs Buhari’s outburst during an encounter with the first lady.

In an interview with the BBC Hausa Service after her return from Europe in October, Mrs Buhari reacted to the viral video.

She said, “I was the one in the video, those behind me were the security personnel given to protect me, but Mamman Daura’s daughter, Fatima, shot the video in the presence of security officials and everybody. She was laughing at me because my husband said they should vacate the place (Glass House) for my son to occupy.”

Oil prices rise on OPEC deficit forecast
December 12, 2019

[url=https://thenationonlineng.net/wp-content/uploads/2019/12/Oil-prices.png]

Oil prices rose on Thursday, recouping some of the previous session’s losses after OPEC forecast a supply deficit next year and the U.S. Federal Reserve said the economic outlook was favorable.

Prices had fallen on Wednesday after a report showed an unexpected increase in U.S. crude inventories.

The market picked up on Thursday, although the International Energy Agency (IEA) and The Organisation of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) offered different prospects for the oil market in 2020.

Brent LCOc1 rose 41 cents, or 0.6 per cent, to 64.13 dollars a barrel by 1005 GMT. West Texas Intermediate crude CLc1 was up 22 cents, or 0.4 per cent, at 58.98 dollars a barrel.

IEA said on Thursday that global oil inventories could rise sharply despite an agreement by OPEC and its allies to deepen output cuts and expectations for lower production by the United States and other non-OPEC countries.

The market, however, focused more on OPEC which said it now expected a small deficit in the oil market in the next year, suggesting the market is tighter than previously thought.

OPEC and other producers including Russia agreed last week to rein in output by an extra 500,000 bpd in the first quarter of 2020.

Oil prices were also supported by the U.S. Federal Reserve keeping interest rates unchanged at a meeting on Wednesday.

“Our economic outlook remains a favorable one, despite global developments and ongoing risks,” Fed Chair Jerome Powell told a news conference.

“While oil prices are trending higher benefiting from a dovish Fed, a weaker USD, the IEA reiterates that despite the deeper oil production cuts, the oil market is likely to be oversupplied in 1H20,” said UBS oil analyst Giovanni Staunovo.

Referring to OPEC members Iraq and Nigeria and their weak compliance with the pact in the past, Staunovo said:

“We remain skeptical that they (Iraq and Nigeria) will achieve their 100 per cent pledge in the first quarter of 2020… (This) could see oil prices coming under pressure again in the future.”

Oil prices fell on Wednesday after the U.S. Department of Energy’s report that showed an unexpected rise in U.S. stocks.

Inventories of petroleum products also increased with gasoline stocks surging by more than 5 million barrels and distillates gaining just over 4 million barrels.

Analysts blamed much of the dip in gasoline demand on winter storms that brought heavy snow to several states, making many roads unfit for driving.

The outlook for oil demand continued to be clouded by U.S.-China trade tensions and uncertainty over whether a fresh round of U.S. tariffs on Chinese goods would come into effect on Sunday.

China’s commerce ministry said on Thursday that Beijing and Washington were in close communication on trade, declining to comment on possible retaliatory steps if U.S. President Donald Trump imposes more tariffs on Chinese goods this weekend.

RHAPSODY OF REALITIES

FRIDAY, 13TH DECEMBER.

GO FORTH AND WIN

You are of God, little children, and have overcome them, because He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world (1 John 4:4 NKJV).

This natural world is under a curse, and has all the negativities of the evil one infested in it. So, being born again, the world will come at you, mentally, physically, emotionally, and even spiritually. But what did Jesus say? “These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world” (John 16:33).

The Master overcame the world on your behalf, which means you’ve overcome the world. And the Apostle Paul says, “For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places…Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked” (Ephesians 6:12-16).

Therefore, irrespective of the evil, darkness, and negativism in this world, you must think differently. Be unperturbed, because you’re in Christ, and in Him you always win. Nothing can be set against you. In your journey of faith, and in fulfilling God’s plan for your life, don’t entertain thoughts of fear, lack or unbelief. Put away anger, bitterness and unforgiveness. These are the things that can hinder your spiritual progress and the call of God on your life.

Keep your heart in God’s Word. 1 Timothy 4:15-16 says to meditate on, and give yourself wholly to the Word, and your victories and success in every endeavour will be inevitable.

PRAYER

Dear Father, I thank you, for you’re the one at work in me, both to will and to do of your good pleasure. I refuse to be deterred by the world and its crippling forces, knowing whom I’ve believed, and the one at work in me. I’ve overcome the world and its systems, soaring on the wings of the Spirit, and fulfilling my destiny in Christ, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.

#TALKINGSESSION

13TH DECEMBER.

KINDLY SAY THESE WORDS OUT LOUD.

Dear Father, thank You for the indwelling presence of the Holy Spirit in my life. His presence is the greatest blessing I could ever have, for He is my advantage and the secret to the glorious and successful life.

I yield myself totally to You dear Holy Spirit, to fulfill Your ministry in my life and manifest Your glory through me. Lord, I am so glad You made me fit to be a partaker of the inheritance of the saints in the Kingdom of lights.

I thank You for the anointing of Your Spirit and manifestation of Your grace in my life. I am conscious of the supernatural life that is in my spirit. Therefore, I refuse to live by the dictates of the outward man, but by the guidance and direction unveiled to my spirit from the Lord.

I live out the transcendent life of greatness, excellence and success inherent in my spirit, as I walk according to God's Word today and at all times, in Jesus' Name. Amen!

God bless you

[url=https://thenationonlineng.net/wp-content/uploads/2019/12/Arik-Air-Picture.jpg]

Kelvin Osa Okunbor

Arik Air said on Tuesday that it is set to boost its operations ahead of the Yuletide season as two of its aircraft returned from a major maintenance check – in aviation parlance described as C- Check conducted at Lufthansa Technik AG facility in Malta.

The return of the two airplanes including a Q- 400 and Boeing 737 – 800 according to a statement by the carrier was part of efforts by the management team led by Captain Roy Ilegbodu to resolve outstanding debts with the African Export Import Bank ( AFREXIM) and string support from Lufthansa Technik AG.

Ilegbodu said the carrier was set to take advantage of the huge passenger influx during Yuletide as it expects two additional aircraft to return from maintenance facility in the next few weeks.

He said one airplane will return before the end of the year, while the other will return by January 2020.

He said in the last two years, the current management has been working hard to improve the number of serviceable aircraft in the airline’s fleet. The efforts, he said are yielding results.

Ilegbodu said: “The Arik fleets are nearly mid – life and such require major overhaul of engines, landing gear, etc. Unfortunately, Arik in addition to being over burdened by debts had no reserves. The company was simply in a fix. The significant work done to date has therefore been the result of prudent management of resources and the support of Asset Management Corporation of Nigeria (AMCON).

“The management’s effort is bearing fruits with two more aircraft expected to return from C-checks in the next few weeks – one at the end of the year, and another in January.

“Since the current management took over the airline operation its Earnings Before Interest, Taxes, Depreciation and Amortization (EBITDA) is positive, customers’ confidence has been restored On Time Performance (OTP) is over 70 per cent – from as low as 30 per cent ; load factors on domestic routes are over 80 per cent , flight cancellations are down to less than one per cent from over 40 per cent , Salaries are paid as at when due, pensions are being remitted, all current obligations are being met and the company is prepared for AMCON exit.

“The Boeing 737-800 had been in Malta with Lufthansa Technik AG since 2015 before the current management came on board, and its return is a huge testimony of the achievements of the current management due to the high cost of C check of as a result of extended lay over.”

The Chief Executive Officer of Arik, Capt. Roy Ilegbodu said: “We are pleased to announce the return of some of our airplanes, following positive resolution of our outstanding debts with African Export Import Bank (AFREXIM) and strong support from Lufthansa Technik AG.

“We are aware that our services are critical to numerous travelers in this festive season, and we are ready for the challenges ahead with improved schedule in our domestic and regional network and excellent customer experience.”

FG Suspends Turkish Airlines Operations In Nigeria
User Avatar Forum: Market Place
Posted by: Edoman - 12-13-2019, 08:57 AM - Replies (1)

Quote:Okechukwu Nnodim

The Federal Government has ordered Turkish Airlines to suspend its operations into Nigeria due to repeated cases of poor passenger treatment by the international carrier.

It gave the directive through the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority , directing the airline to suspend its operations until it was ready to operate with the right size of aircraft that could transport all passengers with their baggage at the same time .

It was gathered that the government ’s directive came as a result of recent cases in which the airline failed to bring in passengers into Nigeria together with their checked -in baggage .

In a letter to the airline by the acting Director -General, NCAA , Capt . Abdullahi Sidi , which was made available by the Federal Ministry of Aviation in Abuja on Thursday , the authority expressed displeasure at the incidents , which it said had been going on for over two weeks.

Sidi said the incidents had become so bad that most recent Turkish Airlines flights arrived in Nigeria without more than 85 per cent of passengers ’ baggage on board .

He said , “ Our airport authority has been facing a serious crisis controlling the passengers at the airport whenever they arrive without their baggage . This issue has made passengers to carry out several mob actions at our airports and it is a great threat to our airport facilities .

“ In view of all these , and a series of meetings held with the Turkish Airlines personnel , which did not yield any solution to this problem , the NCAA is therefore left with no option than to direct Turkish Airlines to suspend its operations into Nigeria until such a time when the airline is ready to operate with the right size of aircraft that can transport all passengers with their baggage at the same time .

“ If no remedial action is carried out by your airline , this suspension shall be effective from the 16 th of December, 2019 .”

SANs Knocks Nigerian Government, Demands Investigation Into Court Room Saga

Quote:-The body of SANs said the audacity with which the operatives entered the courtroom had exposed the nation's hallmark of indiscipline to the whole world.

As condemnation continues to trail the manner at which operatives of Department of State Services invaded the Federal High Court on Friday to forcefully rearrest pro-democracy campaigner and journalist, Omoyele Sowore, less than 24 hours after his release on bail after spending 125 days in detention, the body of Senior Advocates of Nigeria has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to set up a judicial commission of enquiry to probe the action of the agency.

The body of SANs said the audacity with which the operatives entered the courtroom had exposed the nation's hallmark of indiscipline to the whole world.

The latest call by the SANs followed earlier moves by the Nigerian Senate, which called for an investigation into the court invasion and Sowore’s rearrest.

On Wednesday, the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami (SAN), had said that government was setting up a panel to investigate the incident.

Malami’s statement followed widespread condemnation from around the world that greeted the action of the DSS operatives.

Sowore was first arrested on August 3, 2019 by operatives of the DSS in Lagos for calling on citizens to take to the streets in peaceful demonstrations to demand a better country from Buhari’s administration.

In charges that have been described as baseless and laughable by observers around the world, the government is accusing Sowore of insulting Buhari and planning to bring down his government.

But despite two court orders directing his freedom on bail, the 48-year-old journalist remains in detention – a glaring breach of his fundamental human rights as guaranteed by the Nigerian constitution and several conventions the country is a signatory to.

This is definitely a spectacular belief to use with Arcaderm Hydrating Serum. Everybody is trying to figure out a way to do that with Arcaderm Hydrating Serum.   New Minimum Wage: NLC Prepares For Showdown With State Governors Dec 31
User Avatar Forum: General Discussion
Posted by: Edoman - 12-13-2019, 07:21 AM - Replies (1)

Quote:The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) on Wednesday, said it cannot guarantee industrial peace and harmony, if state governors refuse to conclude negotiations and payment of the National Minimum Wage by December 31.

In a communique issued at the end of its meeting with state council chairmen on implementation of the national minimum wage, the union said there were currently three implementation categories in which all states fell into.

NAN reports that the communique was jointly signed by NLC President; Dr Ayuba Wabba, NLC General Secretary; Emmanuel Ugboaja and Abdulrafiu Adeniji; National Chairperson, Joint National Public Service Negotiating Council (Trade Union Side).

The communique noted that Kaduna, Kebbi, Lagos and Adamawa have commenced implementation and payment of the new minimum wage, while Jigawa had concluded negotiations but yet to make its first payment to workers.

It also noted that Borno, Abia, Kano, Bayelsa, Sokoto, Niger, Akwa Ibom, Edo, Ondo, Ebonyi, Katsina and Zamfara States, have constituted a negotiating committee between their state government and Labour, following consequential adjustments of salaries.

“States which have not put in place a Negotiating Committee between the State Government and Labour on the consequential adjustment of salaries, include Bauchi, Yobe, Rivers, Benue, Gombe, Kwara, Imo, Osun, Ekiti, Oyo, Anambra, Taraba, Cross River, Ogun, Enugu, Nasarawa, Plateau, Kogi and Delta States.”

The communique noted that Organised Labour in the states comprising the Nigeria Labour Congress, Trade Union Congress, and the Joint National Public Service Negotiating Council (Trade Union Side) would work in harmony to ensure that all workers enjoy the full benefit of the new National Minimum Wage.

The union urged state chairmen to immediately convoke an emergency State Executive Council meeting and State Congress of all workers to brief them of the outcome of the stakeholders’ meeting on the new national minimum wage implementation.

“States that are still on the discussion table (Category 2) should expedite discussions to conclude the negotiations on or before the 31st of December, 2019.

“States which have not commenced discussion should quickly constitute a Negotiating Committee and expeditiously conclude discussions on salary adjustment consequent on the new national minimum wage on or before 31st December, 2019.

“In the event that any state fails to comply with these resolutions on or before 31st December, 2019, organised labour would not guarantee industrial harmony in such states,” it added.

Quote:The Sultan of Sokoto and President-General of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar has warned that disobedience to any court order is a recipe for lawlessness and chaos.

In a veiled reference to the arrest of the #RevolutionNow convener, Omoyele Sowore by the Department of State Services in violation of a court order, Abubakar stated that “everyone must be law-abiding in the interest of national development.”

He gave the warning on Thursday in Abuja at the 2019 fourth quarter meeting of the Nigeria Inter-Religious Council with the theme: ‘Religion and Civil Authorities in Dialogue for Nation-Building.’

The monarch said, “We must regularly obey and respect the laws of our land. We should never disregard the laws to avoid the consequences. If a court makes a judicial pronouncement on a particular matter, it should be obeyed to the letter.

“If you have any problem or disagree with the pronouncement, the next step is to appeal the pronouncement instead of disregarding or violating court judgments.”

Speaking further, the Muslim leader noted, “If you are served a court order and you deliberately refused to obey it because you are a governor, president or any influential person, then you are setting a dangerous precedent.”
There’s no society that will prosper through lawlessness; Citizens must be law-abiding so that we can achieve the desired development,” Abubakar said.

The NSCIA President-General also stressed the need for inter-religious dialogue in the country, noting that it would foster a better understanding among the people.

He admonished the citizens to be wary of extremism and prevent extremists from causing trouble in the polity.

Abubakar further emphasised the importance of education and particularly stressed the need to enrol street children in school and to combat the rising menace of drug abuse in the country.

Fourth Anniversary Of Zaria Massacre: Shiites send message to Presidency

The Islamic Movement in Nigeria, IMN, has expressed concern over the continued detention of its leader, Sheikh Ibraheem El-Zakzaky who has been in detention since December 2015 after the Nigerian Army’s onslaught on its members, which led to the Zaria massacre.

According to a press statement released by the President Media Forum of the Movement, Ibrahim Musa, today December 12th marks the fourth anniversary of the Zaria Massacre. IMN described the continued detention of El-Zakzaky as “systemic oppression.”

The statement reads:

Quote:“The days 12-14th December 2019 mark the fourth anniversary of the Zaria Massacre. On days like those, Sheikh Ibraheem Zakzaky, the leader of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria and thousands of his followers faced the most brutal crackdown ever, spearheaded by the Nigerian Army, at the behest of the Buhari-led Nigerian regime and its foreign backers.
In those forty-eight hours of that eventful weekend, over a thousand unarmed Nigerian citizens were extra-judicially gunned down in cold blood and many hundred others were arrested.
It was in those two cruel days that many infants and babies that knew nothing about the crimes their parents were allegedly accused of were mercilessly killed. It was during that black period too that even the elderly were not spared.
The seventy-year-old elder sister of Sheikh Zakzaky was gruesomely thrown in a raging blaze while still alive, as she cried for water to quench her thirst. It was during that period that many families were completely wiped out of existence.
It was during that period that not less than 193 children were butchered without any pity. Over 297 women, 548 men and 23 pregnant women were all killed within those two eventful days in December 2015. Valuable properties worth millions of Naira were torched and vandalized.
Within those terrifying days, graves of martyrs, earlier killed by the same Nigerian Army extra-judicially, were desecrated and bodies were exhumed. In those same petrifying days, they secretly buried their victims in mass graves at a location several kilometres away from the crime scene.
It was during those days that worship and educational centres, graveyard and the residence of Sheikh Ibraheem Zakzaky were razed and completely demolished.
These heinous crimes against humanity by whatever standard one looks at them, were the subject of celebration by the very same trio culprits, President Buhari, Gen. Buratai and Governor Elrufai only last week, during the Chief of Army Staff annual conference held in Kaduna.
The Governor specifically applauded the Nigerian Army for playing a leading role in confronting what he labelled “the menace of the outlawed Elzakzaky Movement.” The World has acknowledged that proclamation as a further confession in the body of growing evidence of their culpability in these heinous war crimes.
Earlier, the lopsided Commission they instituted to cover their tracks, could not entirely cover up the gravity of these crimes.
The Commission had observed the highhandedness of the military, which was not in consonance with their rules of engagement or any known international best practices, and therefore had recommended the trial of the General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the Army’s 1st Division Kaduna, Gen. Oyebade, who led the operation and all other officers who participated in the operation, “before a court of competent jurisdiction.”
Years after, none of these Army officers have been arrested for these heinous crimes and atrocities. In fact, some sat in the conference hall where Governor Elrufai, Buratai and Buhari cheering and applauding.
In the meantime, four years on, the government has never been able to prove any of their allegations against Sheikh Zakzaky or any of his supporters in any court of law.
The Sheikh has remained unlawfully detained in spite of a judgement by an Abuja Federal High Court that his continued detention is a breach of the constitution and his fundamental rights, and indeed all known laws.
For most of his years in detention since then, Sheikh Zakzaky has been held virtually incommunicado with only limited access to his legal representation. He was apparently poisoned in detention and is being denied medical treatment, putting his life at very great risk.
This oppressive Buhari regime has also since gone ahead to escalate their tyranny against members of the Islamic Movement, further killing many hundreds and arresting and detaining equally many hundreds more. The rights of Sheikh Zakzaky and his supporters are continually being violated with impunity.
We, therefore, call on the International community, especially the International Criminal Court (ICC) at The Hague and the UN to expedite action to hold the Nigerian government accountable for its crimes, and help uphold the inviolable human rights of the people of Nigeria.
Finally, as we mark the fourth anniversary of this Zaria Genocide Memorial, we unequivocally reiterate that enough of this systematic oppression of Sheikh Zakzaky and members of the Islamic Movement.
We call for the immediate and unconditional release of the Sheikh from this unjustifiable detention, along with all those still in detention on this account. We also demand the immediate arrest and prosecution of all the culprits involved in the Zaria genocide of December 2015 and its aftermath.”

Wire Fraud: 64-year old Nigerian, Babatunde Martins, residing in Ghana extradited to US

A Nigerian citizen identified as Babatunde Martins, residing in Accra, Ghana, has been extradited to Memphis, Tennessee to stand trial for an indictment charging him with wire fraud, money laundering, computer fraud and aggravated identity theft.

Assistant Attorney General Brian A Benczkowski of the Justice Department’s Criminal Division, U.S. Attorney D. Michael Dunavant of the Western District of Tennessee, and Special Agent in Charge M.A. Myers of the FBI’s Memphis Field Office made the announcement.

Martins who is 64 years old, was indicted on August 23rd, 2017 by a federal grand jury in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Tennessee. He was indicted, along with others for conspiracy to commit wire fraud, wire fraud, conspiracy to commit money laundering, conspiracy to commit computer fraud and aggravated identity theft.

Following his extradition, Martins’ initial appearance was made on Monday before U.S. Magistrate Judge Charmiane G. Claxton for the Western District of Tennessee. The indictment alleges that various Africa-based co-conspirators committed, or caused to be committed, a series of intrusions into the servers and email systems of a Memphis-based real estate company in June and July 2016.

Using sophisticated anonymization techniques, including the use of spoofed email addresses and Virtual Private Networks, the co-conspirators identified large financial transactions, initiated fraudulent email correspondence with relevant business parties and then redirected closing funds through a network of U.S.-based money mules to final destinations in Africa.

Commonly referred to as business-email compromise, or BEC, this aspect of the scheme caused hundreds of thousands in loss to companies and individuals in Memphis. In addition to BEC, the defendant is also charged with perpetrating romance scams, fraudulent-check scams, gold-buying scams, advance-fee scams and credit card scams.

The indictment alleges that the proceeds of these criminal activities, both money and goods, were shipped and/or transferred from the United States to locations in Africa through a complex network of both complicit and unwitting individuals that had been recruited through the variousInternet scams. The defendant is specifically alleged to have owned and operated a company called Afri Ocean LTD that he used in furtherance of these crimes.

The defendant, along with his co-conspirators, is believed to have caused millions in loss to victims across the globe.  The DOJ warned that an indictment is merely an allegation and the defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.

Five other individuals have pleaded guilty to being involved in the scheme. Two others, Olufalojimi Abegunde, 33, and Javier Luis Ramos-Alonso, 30, were convicted in March after a seven-day trial in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Tennessee. Abegunde received a 78-month sentence and Ramos-Alonso received a 31-month sentence for their roles in thescheme. Several individuals remain at large.

Sad! Ghastly accident kills 28 members of same family in Bauchi State

No fewer 28 persons said to be members of the same family have been burnt to death in a vehicle accident that occurred along the Bauchi-Ningi Federal Highway in Bauchi State on Thursday, December 12th.

Secretary, North-West Zone of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Abdullahi Yamadi, said the deceased were all his relatives saying they were on their way to Yola, Adamawa State, when the incident occurred.

Quote: He said, “Yes, the accident is true and all of the deceased are my relatives. They were traveling to Yola, Adamawa State, for a visit when the unfortunate incident happened. You know, after the harvest and at seasons like this, people travel to visit loved ones resident in different places; and that was where they were going to.
“They left Dutsinma, Katsina State, and they had left Jigawa State and were within Bauchi State when their vehicle had a head-on collision with another vehicle. They were 29 in the vehicle and all of them died except the driver, who survived.
“This is a very sad news and very pathetic for 28 people from the same family to die in an accident in one day. It is really sad.”

Lady walks out of her marriage hours after it was conducted after being punched by husband's best man

A 26-year-old bride, Erin Mason-George reportedly walked out of her marriage hours after her wedding reception was concluded following the assault she and her family members were subjected to.

Erin who got married to Steffan Wilson four months ago was first verbally abused by her husband's brother and best man Tomos Rhydian Wilson, before he assaulted two of her sisters and her mother in a drunken row.

Tomos was heard saying that his brother should have never married Erin as he held on to her wedding gown before dragging her downstairs.

Friends of the newlyweds told Mail Online the couple decided to “go their separate ways” after the brutal attack. The marriage's breaking point was hinged on Steffan's decision to go home with his brother rather than his bride on the night of the attack.

An unnamed friend said;

Quote:“The marriage was all over in a day which must be some sort of record. They weren’t even married long enough to get a divorce, I’m told they’ve gone for an annulment.”
“The groom had a choice to make – either his wife or his brother and father. When he went back with them that was it, marriage over.”

Tomos who was arraigned before an Aberystwyth court earlier this week, was found guilty of five charges of assault and two of criminal damage. He was sentenced to 12 months of community service and ordered to pay compensation of £250 each to Erin and one of her sisters; £100 to her mum, her other sibling and the manager.

Nigerian man hacked the US govt and gave his family and friends permanent citizenship

The US had been cracking down on cyber scammers recently, over 80 Nigerians had been arrested in the USA for internet fraud and other online crimes during the fourth quarter of 2019.

After the arrests, more charges were pressed on some of the suspects and one of them is not just a scammer. Abaeze Atuche is a hacker and he had done something that no hacker had ever attempted to do before.

Atuche hacked the US government and gave all members of his family and 15 of his friends’ permanent American citizenship. As we speak the American government is in a process of deporting all 33 people who got their citizenship as a result of Atuche’s hack.

No details as to how he pulled it off yet but insiders say his skills are unbelievable. “The US government online network is impregnable but this guy proved it otherwise. If he was not arrested I don’t think there was ever going to be an investigation on how his family members got their citizenship”.

Abaeze Atuche is only 29 and the hacking started five years ago when he was only 24-years-old. He entered the US using a fake American passport in 2013 and never left. By 2016 his big family and 15 of his Nigerian friends were permanent US citizens.

Nigeria Records Worst Attacks On Journalists In 34 Years Under Buharj -PremiumT

Quote:Norbert Zongo: Over 200 journalists deliberate on press freedom in Ouagadogou 'Chameleon' film by Investigative journalist, Anas, screened in Ouagadogou Eighth edition of Norbert Zongo Freedom of Expression Festival announced Nigeria was one of the focal points for discussion when over 200 journalists across Africa met in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso, for a conference on free speech and freedom of expression in September.

The reporters met to discuss the renewed onslaught on journalists and activists across the continent. At the end of the conference, the reporters sent a clear message to African governments to end attacks on journalists and free speech in their respective domains.

In a communique signed at the end of the International Festival of Freedom of Expression and Press (FILEP) organised by the Norbert Zongo Press Centre (CNP-NZ), the journalists also urged some governments to release of journalists who have been detained for carrying out their legitimate duties.

They also urged the government to put in place deliberate policies aimed at protecting journalists.“We condemn the incarceration and killing of journalists in nations like Nigeria, Burkina Faso, the Gambia, Ghana and Sierra Leone, Conakry and other African nations,” part of the communique read.

“We condemn the arrest and murder of several African journalists. Governments should guarantee the safety and welfare of journalists who are the defenders of democracy.”

They equally condemned the “tightening of policies aimed at crippling press freedom and freedom of expression”. It urged the countries to expunge laws that oppose the freedom of expression.

It urged such nations to also “do more to curb terrorism and insecurity” rather than deploy state resources to oppress reporters. The reporters had gathered in honour of Norbert Zongo, a journalist who was killed while investigating the unresolved death of David Ouédraogo.

Mr Ouédraogo was the driver of François Compaoré, the younger brother of the former leader of Burkina Faso, Blaise Compaoré.
Despite death threats, the Zongo continued his investigation until he was murdered.
Troubling history

In Nigeria, it is perhaps not the best of times to be a journalist or civil rights activist going by the spate of attacks on freedom of the press and speech. While attacks on Nigerian journalists is no longer a new phenomenon, they appear to have taken a turn for concern in recent months.

An analysis by www.pressattack.ng, published by the Coalition for Whistleblowers Protection and Press Freedom, shows that 352 total cases of attacks and harassments on journalists have been recorded from 1985 till date.

The year 2018 was initially recorded by the analysis to have witnessed the highest number of attacks (58). But the group’s latest release shows that 2019 has already surpassed that record with the 61 attacks so far, and is still counting.

According to the research, as at May this year, the total number of physical attacks on reporters was 189; equipment searches and seizures, 9; equipment or property damage, 17; arrests, 60; denial of access, 21; threats, 44 & ‘harassments’, 12.

Of these attacks, 322 were on media houses, while the remaining 30 were meted on individuals. Also, 95 per cent of journalists affected were males while the rest were females.

About 114 of such attacks were carried out by uniformed personnel (military, police, SSS, SARS, NSCDC, prison officials, EFCC etc).
Other aggressors were union members (3), criminals, thugs etc (56), private security outfits (18), terrorists (9), unknown (33) and others (68).

PRESS ATTACKS
The country recently got an inglorious mention when a Nigerian journalist, Agba Jalingo, was listed among 10 “most urgent” cases of threats to press freedom around the world.

The list was released One Free Press Coalition, a coalition of about 34 media organisations “standing up for journalists under attack for pursuing the truth”, globally.Members of this coalition include Al Jazeera, the Associated Press, The Financial Times, Deutsche Welle, Reuters, The Washington Post, and Voice of America.

Mr Jalingo, whose ordeal in the hand of the authorities has attracted local and foreign condemnation, is ninth on the list.

The publisher of CrossRiverWatch is standing trial for “treason” over a report alleging that the governor of Cross River State, Ben Ayade, diverted N500 million belonging to the state government.

Mr Jalingo was arrested on August 22 and has been remanded in the Calabar prison, after a federal high court judge denied him bail.
Mr Jalingo, whose appearance in cuffs during prosecution, sparked outrage, insists he is being hounded for carrying out his legitimate duties as a journalist.

Other reporters that have faced the rough end of the authorities in recent past include Luka Biniyat, the Vanguard newspaper Kaduna correspondent, who was accused of falsely claiming that five students of the state College of Education were killed by Fulani herdsmen.
There was also Midat Joseph who was reportedly detained over a WhatsApp comment.

Dipo Awojobi of entertainment tabloid First Weekly Magazine was arrested on Friday over an alleged defamatory article about a Nigerian politician.
Also, a photojournalist with the Vanguard Newspapers, attached to the Aso Rock Villa, Abayomi Adeshida, was on Thursday morning reportedly manhandled by security details of Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo.

The Coalition for Whistleblowers Protection and Press Freedom in November condemned “the growing attacks on Nigerian journalists and the alarming trend of media censorship by state authorities’’.

Members of the coalition include African Centre for Media & Information Literacy, Civic Media Lab, Civil, Society Network Against Corruption (CSNAC), Daily Trust Newspaper, International Centre for Investigative Reporting (ICIR), International Press Centre (IPC), HEDA Resource Centre and Media Rights Agenda (MRA).

The coalition observed that ‘’public officers and influential individuals are increasingly becoming intolerant of critical reporting and fair comments by journalists.’’

It said such officers now resort to the use of instruments of state criminal justice system to suppress freedom of expression and free press.
“From January 2019 till date, we have recorded 61 attacks on the media, including arrests, intimidation, detention and killings. We, as a coalition, totally condemn this abuse of power by state actors and security agencies,” the coalition noted. It also flayed the judiciary for standing idle while the executive trampled on free speech and the media.

“Some sections of the Judiciary, as a consequence of its lack of independence, have become willing tools in the hands of state and federal governments by granting judicial approvals that stifle free speech,” the coalition added. It listed some journalists, who are presently being prosecuted by the state as Jones Abiri, Mr Jalingo and Nasir Ahmad.

Efforts to get presidential spokespersons, Garba Shehu and Femi Adesina, to comment on the report were unsuccessful. The two officials did not respond to text messages requesting comments. Also, Mr Shehu did not pick his call on Friday, 4 p.m while Mr Adesina’s line did not connect after numerous attempts.

Tightening noose
A senator, Mohammed Sani Musa, on Tuesday, introduced a bill he said ‘’will help regulate posts on social media as well as curb fake news on the internet’’.Some analysts already see the move as a further attempt to curb free speech.

The bill, ‘Protection from Internet Falsehood and Manipulations Bill, 2019’ comes years after a similar social media bill introduced in the eighth Senate, sparked outrage across the country.

The former bill titled “A Bill for an Act to Prohibit Frivolous Petitions and other Matters Connected therewith”, sponsored by Bala Ibn Na’Allah sought to compel critics to accompany their petitions with sworn court affidavit, or face six months imprisonment upon conviction.

The bill had scaled through second reading when President Buhari distanced himself from the bill.
The president had said then he will not assent to any anti-social media bill as he “is committed to free speech”.

If the bill had passed into law, people found guilty of making false remarks on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and other similar media, would have faced a two-year jail term or N2 million fine.
The parliament was forced to withdraw the bill.
It is not yet certain the fate of the current bill, although it has started generating opposition.
Concerns

For human rights lawyer, Femi Falana, there is cause for concern as the media is under threat.
Mr Falana said the attack on free press in the country ‘’is over a third term agenda being nursed by the FederalGovernment’’.

Mr Falana spoke in Lagos on Thursday at the public presentation of a book, Testimony to Courage, essays in honour of Premium Times publisher, Dapo Olorunyomi.

“The media must not be silenced. You may have a third term campaign soon. Very soon, they will destroy all possible opponents. And by the time they bring in the third term agenda, the media would have been gone. But we are not going to allow it. No dictatorship can defeat the Nigerian people,” he said.

Ruth Tene Natsa, Editorial Director, Leadership Newspaper, (MDAs Monthly) said the press has not fared well under the current administration.
‘’Unfortunately, the press cannot be said to have fared well, considering recent attacks by various authorities on the media both locally and internationally,’’ she said.

‘’In recent times we have recorded the killing of Washington Post, Jamal Kashioggie which has remains unsolved.

In Nigeria, here we have witnessed journalists harassed for daring to speak the truth such as was the case of Fisayo Soyombo who exposed the rot in the nation’s criminal systems.’’She said even ‘’Jalingo Agba who dared to speak against the corruption in Cross River was led in chains like a criminal to court’’.

‘’The case of Stephen Kefas who was in prison for 139 days and Luka Biniyat who were locked up by Kaduna State Governor are not issues we can easily forget. These are among a few of the harassments journalists face,’’ she adds.

However, Sumner Sambo, political editor, News Central Television, said ‘’press freedom in Nigeria is relatively guaranteed though some journalists have got into trouble with some public office holders and politicians of recent’’.

‘’The contentious issue for me, however, is whether journalists are also obeying their professional ethics by not demeaning themselve into allowing social media gossips or news enthusiasts known as bloggers to provide direction for their daily reportage and duties,’’ he adds.

He said while the cases of Agba Jalingo and Jones Abiri “are a clear betrayal of trust by the political leaders that kept them in detention using legal tactics to prevent their obtaining bail, nonetheless, journalists must also work within the confines of the laws of Nigeria as they are no special citizens.’’He said reporters should not give the authorities leeway to attack them.

“The easiest way to be locked up now by those in government or powerful people in society is through the publication of unverified information or fake news, but any Nigerian journalist who balances his or her story with facts and sources has nothing to fear, even if detained or their stories are declared as “fake news” as part of a witch hunt,’’ Mr Sambo said.
Other views

‘’Although there is a temptation to think that the press is worse off now than it has ever been since the restoration of civilian rule in Nigeria, the facts show that it isn’t that simple,’’ Farooq Kperogi, Associate Professor of Journalism and Emerging Media at Kennesaw State University tells PREMIUM TIMES.

He says the news media is muzzled and freedom of speech is under sustained assault in the current Buhari regime, ‘’but civilian administrations that preceded his aren’t qualitatively better, either.’’

‘’Human beings have a predilection to live in the moment, to be chrono-centric, and to wipe out unpleasant memories that recede further into the past, but those of us who chronicle fleeting moments for a living can’t afford the luxury of historical amnesia,’’ Mr Kperogi said.

‘’As I look over my past articles, I realise that I railed against the strangulation of the media and of free speech in Obasanjo,Yar’adua &Jonathan’s administrations with the same vigour & disgust as I do now.Just like during Buhari’s current fascistic regime, Jonathan’s administration sent soldiers to invade a newspaper house. It also once instructed soldiers to seize vans distributing newspapers.

‘’In fact, the so-called cybercrime law being used now to clamp down on social media activists was enacted during Jonathan’s administration.
The truth is that when it comes to free speech and toleration of dissent, no past or present civilian regime in Nigeria is better or worse than the other,’’ the professor added.

A security analyst, Demola Bakare weighs in.He said ‘’the practice of journalism in this dispensat- ion seems to be expanding on the surface but not in rigour and depth.’’He alluded to the need for responsible journalism.

‘’Most journalists nowadays just want press freedom without press responsibility,’’ he said. Of a truth, we have quite a lot of the moments of (press) vigilance and progressive (action).

‘’The press should objectively facilitate the work of government, setting agenda and contributing positively to good governance. Development minded press is needed,’’ he added. He also warned against fake news, hate speech and flagrant partisan disposition of some journalists/segment of the press.

‘’Press should be for engagement not antagonism or impulsive “naysaying” opposition. The moment some senior journalists are not in government or have access, they wear the robe of opposition,’’ he adds.

Also, Haruna Abdullahi, the publisher, World Entourage Magazine said press freedom has been given the desired room of liberty, ‘’especially in recent times."

‘’We may have had pockets of authority-media ‘squabbles’ here and there but it can’t be concluded that journalists in Nigeria face a hostile environment,’’ he said. ‘’Class of occupation may have been witnessed when security forces frown at territorial incursion by media people, and this cannot be tagged as press hostility.’’

He also said society grows when the press and associate stakeholders follow the rules of engagement ‘’by sticking to ethical provisions and the authority on its part respect the creed of governance’’.

‘’The press of recent has enjoyed significant freedom in practice & existence. This cordiality should be maintained and sustained as we all move to make Nigeria great.’’

Buhari, DSS get ultimatum to free Sowore, Dasuki, others
User Avatar Forum: General Discussion

As a mark of its disapproval of alleged excesses of the Department of State Services (DSS) , a coalition of civil society groups yesterday gave President Muhammadu Buhari a 14-day ultimatum to release Omoleye Sowore, publisher of Sahara Reporters.

They also asked for the release of former National Security Adviser Sambo Dasuki, Sheik Ibrahim El-Zakzaky and other persons detained by the security agency.

The activists, at a press conference in Abuja, expressed concern over attacks on free speech allegedly being perpetrated by the Buhari administration.

The lead speaker, Yemi Adamolekun of Enough is Enough Nigeria, asked Buhari to address the nation on his commitment to the rule of law and human rights before the ultimatum expires.

Adamolekun in her speech, ‘Nigeria’s Troubling State of Affairs’, warned that if the demands were not met, the activists would occupy offices of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) across the country.

Rights groups at the event included: Amnesty International (Nigeria); Centre for Democracy and Development; Civil Society Legislative Advocacy Centre; Socio-Economic Right and Accountability Project; Take Back Nigeria; Women Advocates Research and Documentation Centre; and Transition Monitoring Group.

Also, the Centre for Truth and Liberty (CTL) said the refusal by the DSS to release leaders of the #RevolutionNow movement, Sowore and Olawale Bakare, despite valid bail granted by a competent court of jurisdiction, violates sanctity of the rule of law and the principle of separation of powers.

According to CTL Executive Director Olusesan Semaye, “The unhealthy development, no doubt, casts Nigeria in bad light. More disturbing however is that it portends grave danger ahead, as the democratic space will further be shrunken under a hostile system that negates the rule of law.”

The CTL admonition came as human rights lawyer, Femi Falana, alleged that the Federal Government wanted his client, Sowore, to sign a “death warrant.”

While featuring as a guest on TVC’s programme, ‘Your View’, he said: “They wanted me to persuade Sowore to sign his death warrant and I refused. The government isn’t ready for trial; that is why they elongate his detention.”

He added: “In 2003, 2007, 2011, President Muhammadu Buhari lost elections to the Peoples Democratic Party and he led protests for a revolution. The law that put the State Security Service together states that you’re supposed to act for the Nigerian people, not (for) those in power.”

Besides, the Wole Soyinka Centre for Investigative Journalism (WSCIJ) yesterday postponed the presentation of an award to Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, saying the timing was inappropriate.

It said the decision was reached “to align with protests against the repression of freedom of speech in recent times especially the incident between the Department of State Services (DSS) and Omoleye Sowore, publisher of Sahara Reporters, on Friday, December 6.”

Operatives of the agency had invaded the Abuja Federal High Court in a bid to re-arrest Sowore.

According to a signed statement by WSCIJ Executive Director/CEO Motunrayo Alaka, “The vice president himself shares this awareness and the inappropriateness of the award at this point.”

The centre stressed that the December 9 event, which was to coincide with World Anti-Corruption Day on the eve of World Human Rights Day, aimed “to highlight the importance of investigative reporting as a tool for accountability, good governance and social justice in a democracy.”

A prominent rights activist, Sowore is also a promoter of investigative journalism.

In a statement released by Osinbajo’s spokesman, Laolu Akande, the vice president admitted that besides being away in the UAE for an international meeting, receipt of the WSCIJ’s ‘Integrity Specialty’ award on account of the Sowore saga would be “insensitive”.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs meanwhile declined reaction to a statement issued by U.S. Senator Bob Menendez on the Sowore drama.

The New Jersey lawmaker had two days ago described the DSS action as unacceptable, saying Sowore is a husband and father to a U.S. citizen.

But a source at the ministry who pleaded anonymity said Menendez merely spoke in his personal capacity and as such, his statement did not have a direct impact on the ministry.

“If the U.S. is making any statement against Nigeria, we will wear our regalia of patriotic citizens and issue a response. But to be on the safe side, the leadership of the ministry will be silent on the issue of Sowore. The American government has not made any statement; it was a parliamentarian that did,” the source said.

46 Doctors Resign From Ojukwu Teaching Hospital Over Poor Condition Of Service

Quote:Poor pay: 46 doctors resign from Ojukwu teaching hospital

No fewer than 46 medical doctors have resigned from the Anambra State-owned Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital, Awka, over poor condition of service.

They were made up of 10 consultants and 36 resident doctors.

The university’s chairman of the Medical and Dental Consultants of Nigeria, Dr Chukwudi Okani, stated this on Wednesday in Awka, the Anambra State capital.

He said the doctors were “frustrated out of the system because of poor management in the last one year and many more are seriously searching for better places to go.”

He said COOUTH had the worst condition of service amongst teaching hospitals in the country.

He urged the governor, Willie Obiano, to intervene to save the institution from imminent collapse.

Okani said the ongoing indefinite strike by his members in the institution would continue until government met their demands.

He said, “There must be better conditions of service in COOUTH so that doctors would not be leaving in droves.

“Both the state government and the management of the teaching hospital are not serious in addressing the multiple problems facing the teaching hospital.

“Let us be reminded that our benchmark for return to work is at least payment of 70 per cent of the revised CONMESS as agreed at the committee level.”

He said most departments in the teaching hospital had no consultants.

He denied reports in some quarters that the state government had met their demands, adding that government was just “playing to the gallery.”

Reacting, the Anambra State Commissioner for Health, Dr Vincent Okpala, while stating that some medical professionals must have left the institution for greener pastures, said the state government was working to better the hospital.

He said, “The state government has come up with a good package that will make the doctors to stay and also attract better brains to the college.

“Government has supplied modern equipment to the college and very soon, those who left will like to come back.”

NBA-Buhari’s title: No law states how a President should be addressed -l
User Avatar Forum: General Discussion
Posted by: Edoman - 12-12-2019, 04:46 PM - No Replies

Quote:Prominent lawyers, including Mr Femi Falana, Ebun-Olu Adegboruwa and Jiti Ogunye, on Wednesday supported the decision of PUNCH to henceforth address the President of the country as Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.).

But the Chairman of the Presidential Advisory Committee Against Corruption, Prof. Itse Sagay, and a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Dr Alex Izinyon, opposed PUNCH’s decision.

The PUNCH, in a front page comment on Wednesday, assessed the President and stated that Buhari, who ruled the country as a military head of state from 1983 to 1985, had failed to “wean himself off his military antecedents.”

A few hours after PUNCH’s comment was published, two presidential aides expressed reservations about the decision to prefix Buhari’s name with Major General.

The President’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr Femi Adesina, in a statement, said PUNCH’s decision was an indication of freedom of speech in the country.

He stated, “A newspaper says it will henceforth address President Muhammadu Buhari by his military rank of Major General.

“Nothing untoward in it. It is a rank the President attained by dint of hard work before he retired from the Nigerian Army. And today, constitutionally, he is also the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces.

“All over the world, just as in our country, a large number of retired military officers are now democrats. It does not make those who did not pass through military service better than them.

“Rather than being pejorative, addressing President Buhari by his military rank is another testimony to free speech and freedom of the press, which this administration (or regime, if anyone prefers: it is a matter of semantics) has pledged to uphold and preserve.”

But the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Mr Garba Shehu, in a separate statement, disagreed with the newspaper for changing the title of the President to Major General. He said a newspaper did not have the power to change the title of a President.

He said PUNCH “never changed President Olusegun Obasanjo’s title from the President to General Obasanjo, despite the latter’s refusal to comply with the Supreme Court judgment ordering him to release N30bn to Lagos State.”

Shehu said when “General Ibrahim Babangida, who wasn’t democratically elected, assumed the title of President,” PUNCH did not challenge him.

He recalled that Babangida closed media houses, including PUNCH, for several months.

“The Constitution of Nigeria recognises the President as the formal official title of the occupant of that office. Can the Punch newspapers, in their hubris address the President as Prime Minister as it pleases?” he asked.

NBA backs PUNCH

The Nigerian Bar Association, however, threw its weight behind the decision by PUNCH to begin prefixing the President’s name by his last military rank, major general.

The National Publicity Secretary of the association, Mr Kunle Edun, in an interview with The PUNCH, said the newspaper did not violate any law by its decision.

He noted that the newspaper was only expressing its right to freedom of expression in reaction to the acts of the regime.

Edun stated, “We all know that military regimes have no respect for the rule of law and the judiciary is usually under attack,” he stated.

Edun said referring to Buhari as a major general was not defamatory since it was his last rank in the military.

He said, “I am not aware of any law that expressly states how the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria should be addressed or prefixed; whether as Mr President, a General or simply as Alhaji, is of no consequence at the moment because it is a fact that Buhari is a retired military general and someone who has undergone the mandatory hajj.

“Moreso, the appellations used are not defamatory. Punch has just decided how to express its fundamental right to freedom of expression in conveying its reactions about certain actions of this government.”

PUNCH has not violated any law – Falana

A Lagos-based rights lawyer, Femi Falana (SAN), said PUNCH had not violated any law, adding that the description was appropriate for the present regime.

The Senior Advocate of Nigeria explained that the reactions of both Adesina and Shehu did not address the grave allegations of gross human rights abuses that had become the hallmark of the Buhari regime.

Falana noted that contrary to the diversionary ploy of the presidential spokespersons to cover up the desecration of the Federal High Court in Abuja last Friday, the State Security Service had apologised to Justice Ijeoma Ojukwu and the Chief Judge of the court for the armed invasion of the temple of justice.

He said, “While commending PUNCH for imposing the symbolic sanctions on the Buhari regime, it is pertinent to remind Mr Garba Shehu that he was arrested and detained by the State Security Service in 2006 during the Obasanjo/Atiku face-off. It was the human rights community that fought for his release from the illegal custody.

“In the case of the IGP vs ANPP (2008) 12 WRN 65, we also won the Nigerian people the right to protest for or against the government without police permit. In exercise of the right of freedom of expression won through the court, Major General Buhari and other APC leaders convened rallies to protest election malpractices and insecurity in the country. But as far as the Buhari regime is concerned, any Nigerian citizen, who participates in a peaceful rally, is liable to be charged with treasonable felony or terrorism.

“Mr Garba Shehu alluded to the illegal closure of the PUNCH newspaper by the Babangida junta. It is embarrassing that the senior journalist is not aware that the closure was declared illegal, while the sum of N22m was awarded in favour of the newspaper by the Federal High Court. The said judgment has since been affirmed by the Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court. The era of military dictatorship in Nigeria has passed. The current era of civilian dictatorship will pass too.

ECOWAS court strikes out Nnamdi Kanu’s $800m lawsuit against President Buhari's government

The ECOWAS Court of Justice has dismissed a suit brought by the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, alleging torture, assault, inhuman treatment and the violation of his property rights by the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Kanu, who is also the Director of Radio Biafra, registered under the regulatory laws of the United Kingdom and the United Nations, demanded $800 million in compensation.

Delivering judgment on Wednesday, Justice Dupe Atoki, leading a three-man panel, held that Kanu had failed to prove the claims and dismissed the request for compensation.  The judge also ruled that Nnamdi Kanu’s arrest and detention were not unlawful and arbitrary as claimed by the Plaintiff.

While the Court acknowledged that Mr. Kanu had the legal capacity to approach the Court for the alleged violation of his human rights, it adjudged that without a mandate, he lacked the legal personality to represent the IPOB before the Court.

On the issue of proper parties before the Court, the names of the second and third defendants (Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, and Director General, State Security Service) who are not signatories to the ECOWAS Revised Treaty, were struck out of the suit as improper parties, leaving the 1st defendant, the Federal Republic of Nigeria as the sole defendant in the case.

Kanu’s lawyer, Mr. Ifeanyi Ejiofor, filed the case before the Court on 3rd March 2016.  Kanu claimed that his rights to life, personal integrity, privacy, fair trial, freedom of movement, freedom of expression, personal liberty, freedom of association, private property, right to existence and right to self-determination were violated following his arrest and detention by agents of Nigeria.

He also alleged that he was a victim of arbitrary arrest, detention, torture inhuman and degrading treatment while in detention and that his personal belongings were confiscated by the defendant through its agent.

RHAPSODY OF REALITIES

THURSDAY, 12TH DECEMBER.

UPHOLD OUR KINGDOM IDEALS

Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived; neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor homosexuals (1 Corinthians 6:9 NASB).

When you study the synoptic gospels, Matthew, Mark and Luke, you’d observe that Jesus extensively taught on the principles of our heavenly Kingdom. For example, in Matthew 19:5 and Mark 10:7-8, He acknowledged the union of one man and one woman as the standard expression of human sexuality in a marriage relationship.

The apostles built on the same foundation. In Romans 1:27 (NKJV), the Apostle Paul reiterated the Master’s words, denouncing those who engage in same-sex practice. It says, “Likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust for one another, men with men committing what is shameful, and receiving in themselves the penalty of their error which was due.”

Jesus said in John 15:19, “…ye are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world….” Refuse to be influenced by the system of this world, which is run by Satan. Don’t let your actions, reactions, thoughts, words, and responses be like those of the people of the world. Uphold our Kingdom ideals.

In our Kingdom, God’s Word is the final arbiter; we’re cultured and governed by the Word. Therefore, refuse to compromise the standards, values and principles of our heavenly Kingdom. Walk in the light of God’s Word and His righteousness.

CONFESSION

I refuse to live like the rest of the world nor conform to their ways of doing things. I’m a child of the Kingdom, walking in the light of God’s Word and in His righteousness, boldly displaying the virtues and perfections of Christ, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.

Kogi, Bayelsa polls: We sent 66,200 policemen, says IG

•INEC decries insecurity
December 12, 2019

IGP Adamu

[url=https://thenationonlineng.net/wp-content/uploads/2019/11/IG.jpg]

 Okodili Ndidi, Abuja

NO fewer than 66,200  policemen were deployed in Kogi and Bayelsa states during the governorship elections.

Inspector-General of Police Mohammed Adamu  said 35,200 of the officers and men provided security in Kogi State where  Peoples Democratic Party Women Leader, Salome Abu, was killed by suspected political thugs.

Bayelsa had 31, 000 policemen.

Adamu spoke yesterday at a meeting of the Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security (ICCES) in Abuja where the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) admitted that security lapses led  to the high level of violence that  characterised  the polls in the two states.

The IG, represnted by an Assistant Inspector General (AIG), Mr Bashir Makama, said in spite of the violence recorded in the two states, peace had returned.

Adamu added about 35 electoral suspects   arrested in Bayelsa State  were being investigated at the Zonal Command headquarters in Benin, Edo State.

He said: “In Kogi State, a total of 35, 200 policemen as against 31,000 in Bayelsa were deployed for the same assignment.

“Eight suspects were arrested in Kogi and investigations are ongoing. Those found culpable will be charged to court.

“As regards the women leader that was hacked down, six suspects were arrested separately in lieu of that particular matter.  Investigation is yet to be concluded. Once that is done, proper action will be taken.”

INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, hinted that the violence in the two states   made the commission to seek a review of security arrangements for future elections.

He said that future deployment of security operatives for election duties would be guided by a comprehensive information and clear details of their postings and names. This, he explained, would make them accountable for any lapse that could undermine the elecoral process.

He said: ”INEC will review the efficacy of security deployment in relation to field experience on election day in order to determine what we got right and what we did not.

”Before the Bayelsa and Kogi governorship elections, the commission’s appraisal of the security situation using our Election Violence Mitigation and Advocacy Tool (EVMAT) identified some flash points.

“At the last meeting of ICCES, we shared our assessment with the security agencies. We also had several stakeholders’ meetings in Yenagoa(Bayelsa State) and Lokoja(Kogi State)  involving the security agencies. At these meetings, stakeholders across the board expressed concern about the possibility of violence.

“The security agencies made their own assessment based on which they arrived at the numbers of personnel to be deployed as well as other operational details in order to secure the process.”

The INEC   boss  expressed joy that yesterday’s meeting  would  provide the participants the opportunity to “review the efficacy of security deployment in relation to field experience on election day, in order to determine what we got right and what we did not.”

He added: “The commission believes that the purpose of security deployment during elections is to protect the voters, election officials and materials, accredited observers, the media and to safeguard the integrity of the processes generally, including the polling units and collation centres.

”Therefore, the deployment of security personnel in all future elections should be tied to specific locations and activities. All security personnel deployed in polling units and collation centres should be identified by name as is the case with INEC officials.

“This will not only enhance transparency, but the commission and security agencies will know who to contact in specific locations during elections when the need arises. They will also be held responsible for the proper conduct of elections in those locations.

“The IG  has assured the Commission that this new approach to the deployment of security personnel will be piloted in the   re-run elections holding next month.

”The current electoral security framework provides for deployment of personnel in three concentric circles. In the innermost circle are the polling units where unarmed policemen are deployed while in the outer circles, armed security personnel are deployed to mount roadblocks, patrols and provide rapid response in case of any emergency at the polling units or collation centers.

“We must also review the deployment of armed security to the outer perimeters so that they are readily available to counter the movement of thugs with the intention of disrupting elections through the intimidation of voters; harassment of election officials, observers and the media or snatching of election materials. Arrest of offenders must be followed by a thorough investigation so that thugs and their sponsors are penalised under the law.

“I wish to reiterate that while the Commission has no power under the law to cancel elections, we will not hesitate to suspend elections anywhere our officials report the disruption of the process or threats to the lives of voters, election officials and observers by acts of thuggery or community connivance.

“The commission will not return to the affected areas for as long as it takes until we are guaranteed adequate safety for all those involved in the process.

“The commission will submit proposals to the National Assembly on how the electoral legal framework can be amended to sanction violators and further empower the it  in this respect.”

The INEC chairman also gave  hint into the efforts of the commission to achieve technology- based elections.

“ We need to continue to deepen the use of technology for the integrity of elections. The Senate Committee on INEC has already shared with the Commission the Electoral Act amendment bill for our input. We are excited by some of the new provisions concerning electronic transmission of results.

“We are glad that the electoral legal framework is removing some of the encumbrances to the full deployment of technology for the improvement of the electoral process in Nigeria, especially result collation and management.

“The commission will work with the National Assembly for the expeditious passage of the amendment to the electoral legal framework so that work can begin in earnest to make future elections in Nigeria more technology-based. It is long overdue, it is doable, it is achievable and it is inevitable.”

Meanwhile, the commission has scheduled the re-run elections ordered  by the courts to hold simultaneously in 28 constituencies across 12 states   on January 25.

In his remarks, the National Security Adviser and Co-chair of ICCES, Maj.- Gen. Babagana Monguno (rtd), decried the violence  during the Kogi and Bayelsa  states governorship elections in spite of the promises made by security agencies.

Monguno,  epresented by   Sanusi Galadima,  said:  ”Our fear is that if nothing is done to curtail violence  in future elections, voters may not come out to vote.

”Just yesterday, if I can refresh our minds, there was a book launch in Abuja where you had leaders of all the political parties. We saw how they were embracing each other and laughing.

“To my mind, that laughter tells a lot.  It should be a lesson to those useless people killing themselves because of politics.”

The meeting had  representatives of the Nigeria Army, Nigeria Navy, National Security and Civil Defence Corps, Nigeria Customs Service, Nigeria Immigration Service, Federal Fire Service, National Intelligence Agency and others in attendance.

Unemployment: Senate Seeks Payment Of Stipends To Jobless Nigerians
User Avatar Forum: News

Quote:Sanni Onogu, Abuja

The Senate on Wednesday urged the Federal Government to set up a sustainable unemployment fund for the payment of living stipends to jobless Nigerians until such persons secure any kind of employment.

The Senate also urged governments at all levels to declare emergency on the provision of employment to the youth of Nigeria.

The upper chamber further urged the Federal, State, and Local Governments to revitalise existing industries, build new ones, and provide conducive and enabling environment for the Private Sector to build more industries in the country.

Besides, it called on the government through the Ministry of National Planning, “to put up mechanisms and programmes that would provide employment for our teeming unemployed graduates/youth at all tier of government.”

These resolutions of the upper chamber followed the consideration of a motion titled: “Escalating rate of unemployment in the country” moved by a former Deputy Senate President, Senator Ike Ekweremadu.

Ekweremadu in his lead debate, urged his colleagues to be alarmed that the huge number of graduates being turned out annually by the nation’s tertiary institutions without requisite employment spaces to absolve them.

According to him, the ugly development represents a time bomb waiting to explode.
The Enugu West Senator noted that a report published by the National Bureau of Statistics in 2019 stated that Nigeria’s unemployment rate stood at 23.1 per cent of the workforce in the third quarter of 2019.

He lamented that according to a statement credited to the Minister of Labour and Productivity, Senator Chris Ngige, showed that Nigeria’s unemployment rate will hit 33.5 per cent by 2020.

He urged the upper chamber to be worried that “any nation with such number of unemployed, but employable youth population, is only sitting on a keg of gunpowder.”

He further called on his colleagues to be perturbed that the most pressing demand on the hand of every legislator and public officer in the country today is the rising number of Curriculum Vitae and application for employments from constituents and Nigerians.

He said that he is convinced that a situation where every graduate has to queue up for job only in government offices is an indication of the breakdown of the private sector, “which is the major driver of world economies.”

The Senator lamented that the energies and potential talents of youths that are lying idle and wasting away are usually misdirected toward many unprofitable and harmful ventures and lifestyles.

He further averred that the most active percentage of the nation’s population is forcefully caged by unemployment “from participating in the economic development of fatherland and from contributing toward the Gross Domestic Product (GDP).

“Aware that high level of crimes in any society are most times related to high rate of unemployment.

“That unemployment is one of the major causes of the upsurge in Rural-Urban migration, which puts pressure on facilities at the urban centers.
“That unemployment is one of the major reasons insurgency, kidnaping, armed robbery, cybercrimes and other vices are on the increase.”

Ekweremadu recalled that various intervention programmes by successive governments targeted at “reducing youth unemployment and eradicating its co-traveler, poverty, have not yielded the desired results.”

In his contribution, Senator Istifanus Gyang (PDP, Plateau North), described unemployment as “a monster that, if we (Nigerians) are not careful, can consume us as a nation.”

On his part, Senator Olubunmi Adetunmbi (APC, Ekiti North) decried the inability of the private sector to address the escalating rate of unemployed persons in the country.

He argued that the government lacks the capacity to create jobs, “as doing so would create an expansion in the fiscal responsibility of government.”

Quote:Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain, Femi Fani-Kayode, has told President Muhammadu Buhari not to meddle with the affairs of Oyo State. According to the former minister of aviation, the biggest mistake President Buhari will make is to either bribe or coerce the Supreme Court into nullifying the election that brought Governor Seyi Makinde to power.

This statement came after the PDP in South West raised allegations that the president was planning to upturn the victory of Governor Makinde at the Supreme Court.

This was said in a meeting, which was attended by top PDP members like the Deputy National Chairman, Yemi Akinwonmi; the Vice Chairman, North West, Senator Ibrahim Kazaure; National Vice Chairman, South West, Dr. Eddy Olafeso; and Dr. Doyin Okupe. In a tweet yesterday, the former minister advised the president not to tread that dangerous path, as it would result in nothing but calamity, chaos and disaster.

Godswill Akpabio withdraws from Akwa-Ibom senatorial re-run

Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Godswill Akpabio has withdrawn from the re-run election of Akwa Ibom North West Senatorial District.

Akpabio had challenged the victory of Senator Chris Ekpenyong of the Peoples Democratic Party, who was declared winner of the February 23rd election.

The Court of Appeal had ruled that a rerun election should be held in some parts of Ikot Ekpene Senatorial District.

Akpabio, in a letter to the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Adams Oshiomhole, asked the party to submit another name to replace him as he won’t abandon a critical national assignment placed on him as minister.

He also urged the Oshiomhole to prevail on the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Prof Mahmood Yakubu, to redeploy the State Electoral Commissioner in Akwa Ibom State, Mike Igini, if free and fair elections must be held.

Quote:He said, “I have taken into consideration the critical national assignment bestowed on me by Mr President which will be of immense importance to Nigerians and in particular the indigenes of the Niger Delta region and have resolved to remain as a minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to further discharge my contributions and services to our great fatherland.
“It is on the premise of the foregoing and particularly in line with the provisions of Section 35 of the Electoral Act, 2010 (as amended) that I want to formally and voluntarily withdraw my candidature as the candidate of the All Progressives Congress for the forthcoming re-run election for the Akwa lbom North-West Senatorial District."

Aisha's outburst: ''President Buhari has reduced presidency to Fuji House of Commotion''- PDP

The Peoples Democratic Party PDP has said the Buhari-led government has reduced the Presidency to Kunle Bamtefa's soap opera, Fuji House of Commotion. The party stated this while reacting to first lady, Aisha Buhari's recent attack on the Senior Assistant to President Buhari on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu.

In a statement released today Wednesday December 11th, Mrs Buhari accused Garba Shehu of selling his loyalty to her husband to people who are not in her husband's government. She accused Mr Shehu of being used by some persons to wage a media war against her and her children.

PDP in its statement said Mrs Buhari's outburst has ''exposed Buhari's failure to lead and enforce an organized governance structure.''

Read the statement in full below

Quote:The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) says the public outburst by First Lady, Aisha Buhari, is another sad commentary that further exposes President Muhammadu Buhari’s incompetence and why governance has failed in his hands.
The party says the development has also exposed President Buhari’s failure to lead and enforce an organized governance structure, and that the governance of our nation has been ceded to the chaotic and selfish whims of a cabal.
It is indeed appalling that under President Buhari, our once productive and highly organized Presidency has been bastardized and reduced to Kunle Bamtefa’s soap opera, Fuji House of Commotion.
Instead of governance, the Buhari Presidency has continued to serve Nigerians and the international community with tragicomedies that make mockery of leadership.
Nigerians can now further see why nothing works under the Buhari Presidency; why the administration has remained shambolic and plagued with policy summersaults and executive recklessness; why our economy has remained comatose and why our nation has been dangerously drifting to the brinks under President Buhari’s watch.
Indeed, the Buhari Presidency has proven to be a huge national embarrassment and a big problem for our nation.
Never in the history of our nation has the office, essence and symbol of Nigeria's Presidency been so stripped and ridiculed.
The PDP urges President Buhari to immediately put his house in order and save our nation further embarrassments under his very incompetent, disorderly and messy regime.

Changing the color of your hair is not always obvious: you may want to choose natural colors instead, try new colors, or just gamble on beautiful reflections. In addition, hair color must be associated with eye color and color. What color do blue eyes choose?
What colour is the hair with blue eyes?
If your eyes are blue, your hair will be naturally clear.

Is your hair natural color? Swing between blonde hair and cats. Use this lovely color to choose the color that won't change your hair. Choose gold or copper. All gold (if you want to clarify your hair) and chestnut (if you want to get a darker color). The combination of red hair and blue eyes is also good. On the contrary, brown color will be more difficult to match your skin and eyes. Avoid all flashing colors, such as gold platinum.

If your eyes are blue, your hair is naturally dark.
With eye skin, you can make your hair appear darker, stain Bordeaux or brown reflections. With bright skin, choose warm colors, with golden clouds, copper. If you want to make your hair clear, choose a red or gold color, always in copper and gold notes.

Do you want to change your appearance? New human hair wigs uk hairstyle, new hairstyle: brand new! Yes, but your eyes are green. You don't know what subtleties are in your mirror. The color of our eyes and skin determines the ideal color of our hair. You'd better make no mistake.

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Wednesday, December 11th said his administration is determined to build the Fourth Mainland Bridge.

He also highlighted key component of his administration aimed at delivering his Greater Lagos vision. Sanwo-Olu revealed his administration’s strides while answering questions as a guest on Channels television’s flagship programme, Sunrise Daily where he said the construction of the 4th mainland bridge, would make use of private equity to achieve the project.

Quote:“Two weeks ago, we advertised the 4th mainland bridge project locally and internationally. Our total budget for next year is about $3 billion and that’s the highest in the country. The 4th mainland bridge, from the design we have seen that it is a 37 kilometres road.
We cannot handle it alone so we are going to use private equity. We have advertised. We have the alignment, we have the right of way and all of the biometric study. Let everyone worldwide come and play a role,” he said.
The Governor reiterated his administration’s commitment to adopt technology to combat crimes and reduce them to the barest minimum.
Quote:He said: “One of the things we realise is that security is also going tech. You need a lot of technology and devices to monitor crimes, and whilst we are doing a lot of hard things, we are also building up technology.
Next year, we are building a new Control and Command Center as part of our Safe City project and Mega City security deliverables. We are going to bring to Lagos all those security measures you see in developed Nations.
“At the first phase, we will install about 2,200 high definition cameras across the State. From a CCTV, we can view, review, monitor and track incidence as they happen. We will also train officials. These are some of the things that will happen in the first quarter of next year.”

Sowore's re-arrest: We will probe alleged invasion of court by DSS officials- AGF Abubakar Malami

Abubakar Malami, the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, has said that the Federal government has set up a committee to investigate the alleged invasion of the Federal High Court Abuja premises by DSS officials to effect the re-arrest of publisher and convener of Revoluion Now protest, Omoyele Sowore.

Malami made this known to newsmen after he paid a courtesy visit to the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court, Justice John Tsoho.

Fielding questions from newsmen, Malami refuted claims that his visit was to discuss the rearrest of Sowore with Justice Tsoho.

Quote:“The truth is that I am not here about Sowore’s case. I am here to visit his lordship to congratulate him on his appointment. But one thing about the judicial process is that it is not the only case in which the Federal Government is involved as you rightly know. We have multiple cases that are more serious than that of Sowore pending before the court generally. So the case of Sowore is certainly not an exception. So I cannot be here for an exclusive case when we have multiple thousands cases against the interest of the government pending within the judicial circle not exclusively restricted to the Federal High Court.

We are committed to the sanctity of the judiciary and the judicial system. As a government, we have established a tradition of respect for rule of law. We have established a tradition of interest in the independence of the judiciary. You can rightly remember that as a government we assented to an amendment that gave effect to the independence to the judiciary at the state level, among others.
And Mr. President has put in place a committee that will see to the execution of the amendment to the Constitution that has been passed as it relates to the independence of the judiciary. So, I think we have an established of respect for the sanctity of the court, the sanctity of the courtroom and court premises, respect and interest for the independence of the judiciary. So our credentials relating to legislative processes, our credentials relating to upholding the independence of the judiciary are speaking for us as a government”.

When asked if he was appalled by the conduct of the DSS furing Sowore's rearrest, Malami said

Quote:“Whatever affects the integrity of the court is a worrisome issue for us. I can never be preemptive of an incident over which I was not a live witness to. But one thing I am certain of is that the government has put in place mechanism for investigation of the reported incident. So I would not like to be preemptive in terms of a conclusion, one way or the other, without allowing the consummation and conclusion of the investigation process”.

US Seizes Jet Of Nigerian Man Involved In Multi-Million Dollar Fraud
User Avatar Forum: News
Posted by: Edoman - 12-11-2019, 10:46 PM - No Replies

Quote:DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. - Federal agents seized a jet Tuesday from a man charged in an international fraud scheme.

Only Channel 2 investigative reporter Aaron Diamant was at Peachtree DeKalb Airport as the federal agents processed the plane for evidence.

Diamant learned the seizure is just the latest in a growing list of local cases.

“For the most part, people don’t even understand. They don’t know what’s happening in Atlanta, Georgia,” Dept. of Homeland Security Special Agent Thor Whitmore said. “We’re looking at it as kind of a turn back to the 1980s.”

Investigators said the plane belongs to a Nigerian national charged in a multimillion-dollar international fraud scheme.

Diamant watched on Tuesday as agents collected evidence from the plane and a K-9 team swept the plane for drugs and other contraband.

New figures we received from the Department of Homeland Security show in 2019, the Atlanta field office spun up more than 1,100 cases and made 779 arrests. So far, it has led to 254 indictments and 241 convictions.

While seizing a jet is rare, this year, local agents seized more than five tons of drugs, 200 guns and more than $4.3 million in cash.

“This is all day, every day. I mean, this is the fruits of our labor, and this is the successes of a great team effort by our state, local and federal partners coming together to hit the bad guys where it hurts, in their pocket,” HSI Acting Special Agent in Charge Robert Hammer said.

Agents won’t say specifically how they connected the plane to the man now facing fraud charges.

“When we see a certain type of aircraft get sold, it raises our suspicions,” Whitmore said.

As federal agents went through the plane, the accused was in court Tuesday for an initial appearance.

A removal hearing will also be held to send him back to New York, where the charges he faces were originally filed.

Synthetic vitamins can sometimes fulfill their task of increasing the consumption of certain nutrients, but studies have shown that the body is easier to absorb vitamins and minerals that are naturally found in food.   Bafarawa And Wamakko Clash At Sokoto Airport
User Avatar Forum: General Discussion

Quote:Two former governors of Sokoto State, Attahiru Dalhatu Bafarawa and Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko engaged in a war of words at the Sultan Abubakar III International Airport, Sokoto on Monday.

Wamakko deputized Bafarawa for almost eight years before he voluntarily resigned to avoid impeachment.

He later succeeded him (Bafarawa) after defeating his anointed candidate who is now Minister of Police Affairs, Alhaji Muhammadu Maigari Dingyadi in 2007 Governorship election in the state.

Bafarawa was said to be irked by the recent statement made by Wamakko, which termed him as a seasonal migrant to Sokoto, and as such said to had shunned Wamakko who stood to greet him at the VIP lodge of the Airport on his arrival.

“You said I am a seasonal visitor to Sokoto, why are you greeting me. I know my father and grand father were born and died here, I can even show you their graves. Can you show me the grave of your grand father?,” he allegedly asked Wamakko.

Wamakko was said to had refused to respond to Bafarawa but another account said he had stood by his statement that Bafarawa is Danchirani (a seasonal migrant) in Sokoto.

“I don’t want to know where your father and grant father are buried. All I know is that you are a seasonal migrant in Sokoto, that is all,” Wamakko was quoted to have said.

“There are other people whose parents and grant parents have been buried here but you called them seasonal migrants as well. So just go and face your businesses,” he allegedly told Bafarawa.

The duo however, boarded the same flight to Abuja.

Quote:The crisis rocking the Edo state chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), worsened on Tuesday, as embattled Governor Godwin Obaseki, denied knowledge of a rally planned by the party to hold in Benin City, on Friday.

This is even as the state chairman of the party, Anselm Ojezua, described the supposed rally as provocative and handiwork of unauthorized persons.

According to sources, the mega rally is for receiving a former governorship candidate of the PDP, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu and hundreds of his supporters, to the APC.

It was also gathered that the Vice President, Prof. Yomi Osinbajo and the national leader of the party, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, will be at the rally to receive the defectors.

The Governor, in a chat with journalists after meeting with heads of security agencies in the state at Government House, in Benin City, the Edo State capital, said “I have checked with the state APC secretariat and as far as I am concerned, the party has not announced officially that they will be having a rally.”

He said issues of public safety was reviewed at the security meeting, particularly in relation to the yuletide season.

Yvonne Nelson engaged in a dirty fight on Twitter with her colleague/journalist Victoria Lebene, whose husband Eugene Osarfo-Nkansah shared a viral post of a fan mocking her on Twitter.

The troll who dropped a shade post in reaction to Yvonne Nelson's tweet which read "know your worth", asked the actress if having a baby for a married man was her knowing her worth.

The comment which was retweeted by Eugene Osarfo-Nkansah, ignited the wrath of Yvonne Nelson who stated that she never knew that her tweet about one knowing his or her worth bothered him. The actress also revealed that her baby daddy, James Roberts was divorced when she met him.

Quote:“And to you Nkonkonsa, my tweet about knowing your worth bothers you??
“The dumb charles in kokonsah’s post, you are CURSED for life! Mark my words! Never bring my baby(daughter) into anything negative! God punish you! I’ve given you all the publicity you want! Enjoy it.”

Victoria Lebene however stepped in to defend her husband and also told Yvonne Nelson to be tolerant of people's opinion ‘regardless of its sensitivity’ because she is an opinion leader.

She tweeted;

Quote:“If we all decide to be Opinion leaders, then we should be ready to receive other opinion, regardless the sensitivity. People’s opinion cannot be controlled, that’s the sad part."

Yvonne Nelson who fired back at Victoria, described her and her husband as 'bunch of losers'. She also said that she prays Victoria's marriage lasts and no one disrespects her baby.

She tweeted;

Quote:“Bunch of losers! Y’all are pathetic. Someone is supporting her hubby for posting a diss, don’t worry. You’ll get pregnant/or is already pregnant, I pray you get treated with respect, and hope no one disrespects your baby. I pray your marriage lasts too.”

I'm just wondering if there would be at least one person who would resign from government on grounds of principle - Prof Remi Sonaiya

The flagbearer of KOWA party in the 2015 presidential election, Prof Remi Sonaiya has shared her thoughts about people in government on Twitter.

Sonaiya in her tweet wondered if there would be at least one person who would resign from government on grounds of principle.

Though the retired Professor of French and Linguistics was not specific about the government she was talking about, she also asked where the decent people in government are.

Remi Sonaiya tweeted;

Quote:I'm just wondering (pointlessly, no doubt) if there would be at least ONE person who would resign from government on the grounds of principle - that the government is doing wrong and they cannot continue to be a part of it. Where are the decent people in government?
