2019: PDP Won’t Need Campaign To Defeat Buhari – Babangida Aliyu
User Avatar Forum: Politics

Quote:By Seun Opejobi 

Babangida Aliyu, former Governor of Niger State, has said the People Democratic Party, PDP, “won’t need much campaign to take back Aso Rock in 2019.”

The former governor predicated his claim on the abysmal performance of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

He also noted that Nigerians had realised that the PDP churned out people oriented program, stressing that the former ruling party would not need much campaigning to take back Aso Rock in 2019.

The former Chairman of the Northern States Governors Forum (NSGF) said this at his Abuja residence while hosting some executives of the PDP campaign team.

This was contained in a statement sent to DAILY POST by the Publicity Secretary, PDP @Your Door Campaign Forum, Jacob Onjewu Dickson.

He said that Nigerians had seen the difference and can’t wait till 2019 to liberate themselves from the chains of APC.

Babangida decried the spate of insecurity that has bedeviled the country as a result of lack of ideas from the APC.

“APC government said they are doing N-Power for Nigerian youth but out of several millions of youth who constitute about 60 per cent of the population, only I think about 100,000 are captured by the programme,” he added.

Toyota, Mazda Plant Will Bring Over 3999 Jobs To Alabama
User Avatar Forum: Sports World

Toyota and Mazda announced on Wednesday that they have chosen Alabama as the site for the company's new $1.6 billion auto plant that will eventually employ up to 4,000 people.

According to sources, the decision was between North Carolina and Alabama. The Raleigh News & Observer is reporting that North Carolina lost out on the plant because it does not have the supply chain logistics that the car companies desire.

Alabama has a law that allows economic incentives, such as payroll rebates, for large projects. And on Tuesday, lawmakers from the area proposed additional local tax incentives that appear aimed at the project. The bill would allow local tax abatements for projects with capital investments over $100 million.

Toyota, which is the world's largest auto maker, was criticized by President Donald Trump for taking auto production and jobs to Mexico. With the investment, both automakers hope to prove their good American corporate citizenship and appease the Trump administration's concerns about jobs moving overseas.

U.S. sales of small cars fell nearly 10% last year as buyers continued a massive shift toward SUVs and pickups. Corolla sales fell 14% for the year, to just under 309,000, according to Autodata Corp.

Toyota Motor Corp. and Mazda Motor Corp. announced in August a joint venture to build a $1.6 billion assembly plant in the U.S. which would create 4,000 jobs and be up and running by 2021.

It is projected to produce 300,000 vehicles a year, with half being the Toyota Corolla and the rest an unspecified Mazda model. For some perspective, Alabama's Honda and Hyundai plants both produced more than 320,000 vehicles in 2017.

But the venture is more than that, as both companies hope to co-develop electric vehicles, safety features and connected-car technologies, according to published reports last year.

There has been no official confirmation from Alabama state officials, the City of Huntsville or from Toyota and Mazda as yet.

A 1,252-acre tract of farmland in Limestone County's Greenbrier community, which is part of Huntsville, is apparently the site where Toyota-Mazda might locate the plant.

The area, off Powell Road and Greenbrier Road, was passed over by Volkswagen in 2008 in favor of Chattanooga. Since then, it has been certified as a TVA Megasite, and an Advantage Alabama site by the Economic Development Partnership of Alabama.

The site is only a short drive from Polaris and the Target Distribution Center off Interstate 565.

Toyota already has factories in Indiana, Kentucky, Mississippi and Texas, as well as an existing engine plant in Huntsville. Last year, the company announced a $106 million expansion there.

The Japanese multinational automaker, Mazda stopped manufacturing vehicles in the U.S. in 2012.

Alabama was identified as one of 11 states early on where the plant might land. By mid-November, the list was down to two states, with North Carolina being the other.

Only 24 candidates from Zamfara state passed the 2017 November/December Senior School Certificate Examination of the National Examinations Council (NECO).
The examination was reportedly taken by 186 candidates in Zamfara.

According to PUNCH, Charles Uwakwe, NECO registrar, disclosed this on Tuesday while briefing journalists at the council’s headquarters in Minna, Niger state.

“For candidates’ general performance by states, Ogun state has the best result as 4,766 students out of the 5,213 that sat for the exam obtained five credits and above in all subjects, representing 91.42 per cent,” he said.

“Zamfara State records the worst result; only 24 out of the 186 candidates obtained five credits and above, representing 12.90 per cent.”

He said out of the 42,429 candidates that sat for the examination, only 24,098 which represents 56.79 per cent got five credits, including English Language and Mathematics.

Uwakwe said a further breakdown shows that of the 41,429 that sat for English Language, 70.62 per cent (29,258) got credit pass, while 78.82 per cent of the 41,485 (32,701) that sat for Mathematics had the same grade.

Jewels Worth Four Millions Stolen In Paris Ritz Heist

The French police says a gang of five armed robbers launched a spectacular raid on the world famous Ritz hotel in Paris on Wednesday, making off a worth of four million euros worth of jewels.

The five armed robbers arrives with hatchets at the hotel in Paris' luxurious Place Vendome around 6:30 pm (1730 GMT) before smashing the windows on the ground floor and making off with the jewels.

Three of the gang were detained while fleeing the scene. Reports says some roads around the hotel were blocked by security forces following the incident. Two people were still being sought by authorities on Thursday evening.

One of the robbers, fleeing the scene on a bicycle, dropped a diamond-encrusted cross worth 30,000 euros, which was found by a passer-by a few hours later.

It remains the only piece to be recovered from the robbery.

"World-famous jewellers display their jewellery at the Ritz," a police source said.

A judicial source put the value of the jewels seized at "more than four million euros" ($4.75 million).

Interior minister Gerard Collomb praised officers' "professionalism" saying they had "done our police force credit".

"We heard a loud noise and lots of racket in the street," one hotel employee told AFP. "Passers-by took refuge in the hotel. We didn't know what was going on until someone told us there had been a robbery."

Another employee said he saw a motorbike speed along a road at the back of the hotel after the break-in.

Paris prosecutors have opened a probe into armed robbery, according to a judicial source.

Place Vendome, with its opulent window displays, has been the scene of several audacious daytime raids.

In March 2016, two robbers stole an estimated six million euros worth of jewels from luxury fashion brand Chopard after threatening employees with a gun and grenade. Three men were charged in connection with that heist.

Security had been boosted in the area, which also houses France's justice ministry, in 2014

Come To North And Rescue Our Youth; Almustapha To Muoka
User Avatar Forum: Politics

Quote:Mgbidi—CHIEF Security Officer to late General Sani Abacha, Major Hamza Al-Mustapha, has appealed to the General Overseer of the Lord’s Chosen Charismatic Revival Movement, Pastor Lazarus Muoka, to come to the North to rescue the 19 northern states from incessant crises in the area.

Al-Mustapha, founder of Green Party of Nigeria, GMP, who made a surprise appearance at Mgbidi, in Oru West Local Government Area of Imo State, accompanied by two Kaduna State Christian clerics, Pastor Aminchi Habu and Dr. Gora Philemon, spoke at the last day of the 4-day International Miracle Crusade titled; What God has determined Shall be done, organized by the Lord’s Chosen at Mgbidi.

Addressing the worshippers, he explained that his mission was to acknowledge Muoka as a man with a peculiar interest in Nigeria’s problems, especially in the North and appealed for his intervention before the unrest escalated into something bigger.

The former CSO lamented that the 19 northern states were presently faced with so many social problems requiring sincere and honest people like Muoka, who could direct and pass the right messages to the people.

“We want Pastor Muoka to extend his evangelism to the North, so as to change the situation for good. If we allow terrorism to get deep and rooted, it may snowball into affecting other parts of Nigeria. Besides people are dying every day. So, there is need to bring people who have the capacity to bring Nigeria out of its present situation,” he appealed.

“Infrastructure is nowhere to be found, so many promises, but not fulfilled. There is too much money, but nothing to show for it. Institutional decay, nepotism, gender inequality problems etc are posing serious problems in Nigeria. Besides, people are dying every day, so there is a need to bring people who we know, have the capacity to bring Nigeria out of its present situation,” he opined.

Teachers’ strike: Don’t come to Kaduna, police warn NLC
User Avatar Forum: Politics
Posted by: Edoman - 01-11-2018, 10:27 AM - No Replies

The police have warned the organised labour against holding any solidarity rally in Kaduna in support of the 20,000 primary schoolteachers that the state government plans to sack.
The President of Nigeria Labour Congress, Ayuba Wabba, had said the Nigerian workers would observe Thursday (today) as a day of solidarity with the Kaduna workers, especially teachers, currently on an indefinite strike in the state.

The solidarity rally was aimed at forcing the state government to reverse its plan to sack  the  teachers that it  considered unqualified to teach in its schools.
But the Kaduna State Police Commissioner, Mr. Agyole Abbe,  while briefing journalists at the state command’s headquarters in Kaduna, warned that the police in the state could not guarantee the security of the labour union because the state was just coming out of a crisis.
The police boss said, “We wish to remind them that the last incident relating to the same issues of teachers where the organised labour union staged what was supposed to be a peaceful protest turned out to be a breach of the public peace in the state which resulted in chaos and destruction of some property of government especially at the Kaduna State House of Assembly.
“It is also in the interest of the good people of Kaduna State to note that those who might be contemplating to come to Kaduna to foment trouble are strictly advised to stay away from the state as the command is prepared to deal decisively with any such person or group.”
But Wabba has described the police threat as undemocratic, stating that his union wrote to the Inspector-General, Ibrahim Idris, about the planned protest.
“Nobody has told us, we wrote to the IG, secondly, this is undemocratic, what the law says is that the police should provide security, protest is a constitutional provision,” he noted.
Asked if the union would defy the police and go ahead with the protest, Wabba simply said, “They have not communicated to us, we communicated to them in writing that we are going to protest, it is a fundamental human rights globally.”
However, Governor Nasir el-Rufai said his administration must serve the ordinary people of the state and not only trade union members.

He noted that no amount of sentiments or strike would make him mortgage the future of the over two million schoolchildren in the state.
El-Rufai’s Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Mr. Samuel Aruwan, stated this at a press conference which held at the Sir Kashim Ibrahim Government House, Kaduna.
He said, “No amount of sentiments will result in subjugating the future of these two million children to the caprices of poor teachers. Not strikes. Not blackmail. Not craven indulgence in tired clichés.
“The urgency of serving our people does not permit us to retain unqualified or redundant workers just because they were able to sneak in.
“Perhaps, the labour unions are unable to identify or grapple with the great issues of the day if they are not prompted by external actors, but not every social actor shares that affliction.
“There is no way to even contemplate retaining teachers who have failed badly, and who are actually in need of adult education classes in Literacy and Numeracy.”
He added, “The last time the NLC and NUT organised what they called a peaceful rally, they attacked the Kaduna State House of Assembly and destroyed public property in addition to engaging in unlawful assembly and other violations of the Penal Code of Kaduna State.”

Killings by herdsmen: Soyinka lambasts FG, death toll in Taraba rises

[url=http://punchng.com/killings-by-herdsmen-soyinka-lambasts-fg-death-toll-in-taraba-rises/]

Prof. Wole Soyinka

Gbenga Adeniji, Adelani Adepegba,  Olaleye Aluko and  Justin Tyopuusu
Renowned playwright, Prof. Wole Soyinka, says the Federal Government is responsible for the wanton killings perpetrated by Fulani herdsmen in the country.
Soyinka in a statement on Wednesday titled, ‘Holy Cow: Impunity Rides Again,’ said the government was “looking the other way” as the herdsmen went on the rampage across the country.

READ ALSO: Impunity rides again, by Wole Soyinka
He said, “Yes, indeed the government is culpable, definitely guilty of “looking the other way. Indeed, it must be held complicit.”
The Nobel laureate said history was repeating itself with the herdsmen’s case, recalling that Boko Haram was still at that stage of “putative probes when cries of alarm emerged.”
Soyinka said, “Boko Haram was a product of social inequities, they preached – one even chortled: ‘We stand for justice, so we are all Boko Haram!’  We warned that – yes indeed – the inequities of society were indeed part of the story, but why do you close your eyes against other, and more critical malfunctions of the human mind, such as theocratic lunacy? Now it is happening again. The nation is being smothered in Vaseline when the diagnosis is so clearly – cancer!
“We have been here before – now, ‘before’ is back with a vengeance. President Goodluck Jonathan refused to accept that marauders had carried off the nation’s daughters; President Muhammed Buhari and his government – including his Inspector-General of Police – in near identical denial, appear to believe that killer herdsmen who strike again and again at will from one corner of the nation to the other, are merely hot-tempered citizens whose scraps occasionally degenerate into communal clashes – I believe I have summarised him accurately. The marauders are naughty children who can be admonished, paternalistically, into good neighbourly conduct.
“Sometimes of course, the killers were also said to be non-Nigerians after all. The contradictions are mind-boggling.’’
The acclaimed writer recalled that a more hideous massacre was perpetrated by the group he termed Murder Incorporated during a peace meeting in Benue in 2016, describing the development as a climax to what had been a series across a number of Middle Belt and neighbouring states, with Benue taking the brunt of the butchery.
He noted that the peace meeting attended by the state government and security agencies, including the Inspector-General of Police, also had the herdsmen in attendance.

He added, “They freely admitted the killings but justified them by claims that they had lost their cattle to the host community. It is important to emphasise that none of their spokesmen referred to any government neglect, such as refusal to pay subsidy for their cows or failure to accord them the same facilities that had been extended to cassava or millet farmers. Such are the monstrous beginnings of the culture of impunity. We are reaping, yet again, the consequences of such tolerance of the intolerable.’’
Warning against what he described as the ‘‘enervating lure of appeasement in face of aggression and will to dominate,’’ the playwright also drew attention to Volume III of his Interventions Series, and to the chapter on ‘The Unappeasable Price of Appeasement.’
Soyinka said, “There is little to add, but it does appear that even the tragically fulfilled warnings of the past leave no impression on leadership, not even when identical signs of impending cardiac arrest loom over the nation.’’
He recalled that the first active policy of appeasement and the language of endorsement came when Kaduna State Governor, Nasir el-Rufai, on assuming office, proudly said he had raised a peace committee and successfully traced the herdsmen to locations outside Nigerian borders.
Soyinka added that the governor said he made payments to them from state coffers to cure them of their homicidal urge which, according to the herdsmen, were reprisals for some ancient history and the loss of cattle through rustling.
He said, “The public was up in arms against this astonishing revelation. I could only call to mind a statement by the same el-Rufai after a prior election which led to a rampage in parts of the nation, and cost even the lives of National Youth Service Corps members. They were hunted down by aggrieved mobs and even states had to organise rescue missions for their citizens. Countering protests that the nation owed a special duty of protection to her youth, especially those who are co-opted to serve the nation in any capacity, El Rufai’s comment then was: No life is more important than another. Today, that statement needs to be adjusted, to read perhaps – apologies to George Orwell: “All lives are equal, but a cow’s is more equal than others.”
Disclosing that though he called on the government a week ago to stop passing the buck over the fuel crisis, Soyinka stated that he never intended that a reverse policy should lead to exonerating – or appearing to exonerate mass killers, rapists and economic saboteurs.
According to him, the conduct of the saboteurs subverts the efforts of others to economically secure their own existence and drives other producers off their land in fear and terror.
“This promises the same plague of starvation that afflicts zones of conflict all over this continent where liberally sown landmines prevent farmers from venturing near their prime source, the farm, often their only source of livelihood, and has created a whole population of amputees. At least, those victims in Angola, Mozambique and other former war theatres, mostly lived to tell the tale. These herdsmen, arrogant and unconscionable, have adopted a scorched-earth policy, so that those other producers – the cassava, cocoa, sorghum, rice farmers are brutally expelled from farm and dwelling.
“Government neglect? You may not have intended it, but you made it sound like the full story. I applaud the plans of your ministry, I am in a position to know that much thought – and practical steps – have gone into long term plans for bringing about the creation of ‘ranches’, ‘colonies’ – whatever the name – including the special cultivation of fodder for animal feed and so on and on. However, the present national outrage is over impunity. It rejects the right of any set of people, for whatever reason, to take arms against their fellow men and women, to acknowledge their exploits in boastful and justifying accents and, in effect, promise more of the same as long as their terms and demands are not met. In plain language, they have declared war against the nation, and their weapon is undiluted terror. Why have they been permitted to become a menace to the rest of us? That is the issue!”
Soyinka said he was unaware that the Indigenous People of Biafra came anywhere close to the Fulani herdsmen’s homicidal propensity and will to dominate before it was declared a terrorist organisation.
He said, “How do we categorise Miyetti? How do we assess a mental state that cannot distinguish between a stolen cow – which is always recoverable – and human life, which is not? Villages have been depopulated far wider than those outside their operational zones can conceive. They swoop on sleeping settlements, kill and strut. They glory in their seeming supremacy.
“These crimes are treated like the norm. Once again, the nation is being massaged by specious rationalisations while the rampage intensifies and the spread spirals out of control. When we open the dailies tomorrow morning (today), there is certain to have been a new body count, to be followed by the arrogant justification of the Miyetti Allah.”
Saying that President Goodluck Jonathan only saw ‘ghosts’ when Boko Haram was already excising swathes of territory from the nation space and abducting school pupils, he added that the ghosts of Jonathan seemed poised to haunt the tenure of President Muhammed Buhari.
Residents put Taraba’s death toll at 56
Residents said the death toll from the killing of people of Taraba communities by Fulani herdsmen have risen to 56 on Wednesday, as survivors continued to recount tales of sorrows.
Some armed Fulani herdsmen had on Friday and Saturday attacked many communities in the Lau Local Government Area of the state, including Donaddo, Lavoro, Katibu, Didango and Maku, leaving blood in their trail.
The attack in Lau villages came barely 24 hours after suspected herdsmen killed a family of five and seven others in the Wukari and Gassol local government areas of the state.
The residents of the affected communities in Lau LGA said the death toll in the attack had hit 56 persons, mostly children and women, while over 200 houses were recorded to have been burnt.
They called on the Federal Government to declare Fulani herdsmen a terror group, just as 29 of the victims killed in the attacks on Donaddo, Lavoro, Katibu, Didango and Maku communities in the Lau LGA were on Wednesday given a mass burial in Katibu and Didango.
The affected communities on Wednesday remained deserted as residents had fled; and it was gathered that only security personnel deployed in the area were visible.
One of the affected residents, Mr. Sani Marafa, who said six of his relations were among those given the mass burial, added that the attackers were over 100.
“They attacked us at about 3pm on Friday and Saturday, killing people and setting them on fire. Six of my relations are among the victims. I almost could not recognise my relations after the killer Fulani attack my village
“The government must deploy soldiers in Taraba immediately to contain this situation. The attackers were well armed and I don’t think the police have the capacity to deal with them.
“As I speak to you, all our houses, foodstuffs and other valuable items have been destroyed. Many families here are passing through serious trauma,” he said.
Another resident of one of the attacked communities, Mrs. Paulina Habila, a mother of four, said apart from killing her husband, the Fulani herdsmen made her homeless.
She said, “The Federal Government have failed to protect us here. My husband was slaughtered like a goat by the Fulani men who invaded our village. They killed over 35 people in our village alone and razed the entire community.”
Another victim of the attack, Pastor Titus Makovini, said, “The killers came into the community church and they slaughtered some worshipers, while others fled.
“The security personnel failed to protect us for the two days that the attackers laid siege to our communities.”
A survivor of the attack, who gave her name simply as Joy, said she escaped death by a whisker when the armed herdsmen struck.
Joy, who lamented the death of her 69-year-old mother and other relations in the attack, said, “The Federal Government must find a lasting solution to this senseless and mindless killing of innocent people by rampaging herdsmen.”
However, the state Police Public Relations Officer, ASP David Misal, said 12 people were killed during the attack on the communities.
“The attack happened on Friday and Saturday, but because the attackers were still laying siege to the communities, bodies of the dead could not be recovered and buried until we provided security for them to do so.
“Our men are currently on the ground in the area and the situation is now under control,” he said.
On his part, Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Media and Publicity, Mr. Bala Abu, told our correspondent that 29 corpses were recovered from burnt houses, bush paths and nearby farms where the victims tried to hide from the killer Fulani herdsmen.
“It is really a disturbing sight. A combined team of armed soldiers and policemen have to provide security cover for the villagers to enable them conduct the funeral rites for the dead,” he added.
The Permanent Secretary, Taraba State Emergency Management Agency, Mr. Nulvaga Danhabu, said the state government had provided relief materials to the Internally Displaced Persons who fled the areas for safety.
“The IDPs from the Lau crisis are currently camping in Kufai, Mayo Dassa and the Federal Character Commission office in Jalingo, Mayo-Lope and Abari Lau. In the days ahead, we will see what we can do to alleviate their sufferings,” he said.
Killings going on in Benue despite IG presence –Group
A group, Community Development Coalition, has raised the alarm that Fulani herdsmen are still carrying out killings in the Guma and Logo local government areas of Benue State.
The group added that the atrocities were occurring despite the deployment of police operatives and soldiers and the relocation of the Inspector-General of Police, Idris Ibrahim, to the state.
The CDC Convener, Prof. Yima Sen, told journalists in Abuja on Wednesday, that he had visited the affected communities and was informed that attacks by the herdsmen had not abated.
Continued from page 7Sen noted that the security forces on the ground had been unable to stop the bloodshed across the state.
“I left the crisis area about five hours ago and from my consultations with the people, killings are still going on. I am not satisfied with the security situation; I have also consulted with the people and they are not satisfied with the situation,” he said.
The CDC said it would do all that was legally possible to ensure the full implementation of the Benue State Anti-open Grazing Prohibition Law.
It said it would also facilitate “the emergence of a robust, reliable and sustainable community-driven security system.”
The group rejected the proposed cattle colonies for herdsmen by the Federal Government, insisting that no inch of Benue land would be given out to the herdsmen.
Sen said, “We can’t be colonised by the Fulani; they can ranch, but if anyone is talking about cattle colonies, they should find another location, not Benue.”
The CDC convener accused President Muhammadu Buhari of turning a blind eye to the atrocities of the herdsmen.
He said, “We are left with no option than to conclude that the President, who by the way is the grand patron of Miyetti Allah, has turned a blind eye and is bent on keeping deaf ears to these atrocities.”
A former Director-General, Bureau of Public Enterprise, Bernard Verr, argued that the open grazing of cattle constituted a danger to the nation’s agriculture, food security and the economic diversification programme of the government.
When asked about the reported killings, the state Commissioner of Police, Bashir Makama, said he was not aware, adding that the CDC should furnish him with  the names of the communities so he could ascertain the claims.
DHQ coordinates  response to Benue killings
The Defence Headquarters, Abuja, is coordinating the deployment of more ground and air troops to curb the crises in parts of Benue State, sources told our correspondent on Wednesday.
Although the DHQ had yet to make any official statement, our correspondent learnt that more troops had joined in the operation going by the “orders from above.”
It was learnt that the army had detailed troops from the 93 Battalion, Takum, Taraba State, and the 72 Special Forces Battalion, Makurdi, Benue State, while the air force is deploying assets from the Tactical Command, Nigerian Air Force, Makurdi.
The source said, “It is the Defence Headquarters that is coordinating the response to the Benue crisis. The army and the air force have deployed men in the troubled areas. I cannot give you the number of the troops because they are drawn from bases in the region.
“The figures of the armed gang members run into 100s. More arrests will still be made.

Herdsmen killings: Soyinka blasts Buhari
— 11th January 2018
•Says FG culpable in attacks
By Adetutu Folasade-Koyi
Nobel Laureate, Professor Wole Soyinka, has warned President Muhammadu Buhari to learn from history and stop treating killer herdsmen with kid gloves.
Soyinka also described incessant attacks by killer herdsmen, in many parts of the country, as a declaration of war on Nigeria.
The Nobel laureate made this known in a statement yesterday.
Soyinka specifically warned Buhari not to fall into the same trap former President Goodluck Jonathan fell into with Boko Haram insurgency when the sect kidnapped 267 girls on April 14, 2014.
“We have been here before – now, ‘before’ is back with a vengeance.
“President Goodluck Jonathan refused to accept that marauders had carried off the nation’s daughters; President Muhammadu Buhari and his government – including his Inspector-General of Police – in near identical denial, appear to believe that killer herdsmen who strike again and again at will from one corner of the nation to the other, are merely hot-tempered citizens whose scraps occasionally degenerate into ‘communal clashes’– I believe I have summarised him accurately.
“The Marauders are naughty children who can be admonished, paternalistically, into good neighbourly conduct. Sometimes, of course, the killers were also said be non-Nigerians after all. The contradictions are mind-boggling.
“First, the active policy of appeasement, then the language of endorsement. El-Rufai, governor of Kaduna State, proudly announced that, on assuming office, he had raised a peace committee and successfully traced the herdsmen to locations outside Nigerian borders. He, then, made payments to them from state coffers, to cure them of their homicidal urge which, according to these herdsmen, were reprisals for some ancient history and the loss of cattle through rustling.
“The public was up in arms against this astonishing revelation. I could only call to mind a statement by the same El-Rufai, after a prior election, which led to a rampage in parts of the nation, and cost even the lives of National Youth Service Corps members. They were hunted down by aggrieved mobs and even states had to organise rescue missions for their citizens. Countering protests that the nation owed a special duty of protection to her youth, especially those who are co-opted to serve the nation in any capacity, El-Rufai’s comment then was: ‘No life is more important than another. That statement needs to be adjusted, to read perhaps –apologies to George Orwell: ‘All lives are equal, but a cow’s is more equal than others.’
“This seems to be the government view, one that, overtly or by implication, is being amplified through act and pronouncement, through clamorous absence, by this administration. It appears to have infected even my good friend and highly capable Minister, Audu Ogbeh, however insidiously. What else does one make of his statements in an interview where he generously lays the blame for ongoing killings everywhere but at the feet of the actual perpetrators!”
Reacting to comments credited to the herdsmen that the killings were in defence of their stolen cows, Soyinka asked: “How do we assess a mental state that cannot distinguish between a stolen cow – which is always recoverable – and human life, which is not? Villages have been de-populated far wider than those outside their operational zones can conceive. They swoop on sleeping settlements, kill and strut. They glory in their seeming supremacy.”
Still on the Agriculture ministry, Soyinka also recalled that there had been steps taken to quell the attacks but none had been successful, yet.
“I applaud the plans of your ministry, I am in a position to know that much thought–and practical steps – have gone into long-term plans for bringing about the creation of ‘ranches’, ‘colonies’–whatever the name – including the special cultivation of fodder for animal feed and so on and on.
“However, the present national outrage is over-impunity. It rejects the right of any set of people, for whatever reason, to take arms against their fellow men and women, to acknowledge their exploits in boastful and justifying accents and, in effect, promise more of the same as long as their terms and demands are not met. In plain language, they have declared war against the nation and their weapon is undiluted terror. Why have they been permitted to become a menace to the rest of us? That is the issue!
“Permit me to remind you that, early in 2016, an even more hideous massacre was perpetrated by this same Murder Incorporated – that is, a numerical climax to what had been a series across a number of Middle Belt and neighbouring states, with Benue taking the brunt of the butchery.
“A peace meeting was called, attended by the state government and security agencies of the nation, including the Inspector General of Police. This group attended – according to reports- with AK47s and other weapons of mass intimidation visible under their garments. They were neither disarmed nor turned back.
“They freely admitted the killings but justified them by claims that they had lost their cattle to the host community. It is important to emphasise that none of their spokesmen referred to any government neglect, such as refusal to pay subsidy for their cows or failure to accord them the same facilities that had been extended to cassava or millet farmers.
“Such are the monstrous beginnings of the culture of impunity. We are reaping, yet again, the consequences of such tolerance of the intolerable. Yes, there, indeed, the government is culpable, definitely guilty of ‘looking the other way.’ Indeed, it must be held complicit.”

Soyinka drew an analogy between activities of killer herdsmen and those of the IPOB
“This question is now current, and justified: just when is terror? I am not aware that IPOB came anywhere close to this homicidal propensity and will to dominance before it was declared a terrorist organization. The international community rightly refused to go along with such an absurdity.
“For the avoidance of doubt, let me state right here, and yet again, that IPOB leadership is its own worst enemy. It repels public empathy, indeed, I suspect that it deliberately cultivates an obnoxious image, especially among its internet mouthers who make rational discourse impossible. However, as we pointed out at the time, the conduct of that movement, even at its most extreme, could by no means be reckoned as terrorism. By contrast, how do we categorize Myeti? How do we assess a mental state that cannot distinguish between a stolen cow – which is always recoverable – and human life, which is not. Villages have been depopulated far wider than those outside their operational zones can conceive. They swoop on sleeping settlements, kill and strut. They glory in their seeming supremacy. Cocoa farmers do not kill when there is a cocoa blight. Rice farmers, cassava and tomato farmers do not burn. The herdsmen cynically dredge up decades-old affronts – they did at the 2016 Benue“peace meeting” to justify the killings of innocents in the present – These crimes are treated like the norm. Once again, the nation is being massaged by specious rationalisations while the rampage intensifies and the spread spirals out of control. When we open the dailies tomorrow morning, there is certain to have been a new body count, to be followed by the arrogant justification of the Myeti Allah.
The warnings pile up, the distress signals have turned into a prolonged howl of despair and rage. The answer is not to be found in pietistic appeals to victims to avoid ‘hate language’ and divisive attributions. The sustained, killing monologue of the herdsmen is what is at issue. It must be curbed, decisively and without further evasiveness.
Yes, Jonathan only saw ‘ghosts’ when Boko Haram was already excising swathes of territory from the nation space and abducting school pupils. The ghosts of Jonathan seem poised to haunt the tenure of Muhammadu Buhari.

RHAPSODY OF REALITIES

THURSDAY, 11TH JANUARY.

Pastor Chris

TOPIC ✨ HE’S WORKING IN AND THROUGH YOU✨

To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation (2 Corinthians 5:19).

Our opening verse lets us know that it was God working in Christ to give sight to the blind, feed the hungry, clothe the naked, heal the sick, mend the broken hearted, deliver those who were oppressed of the devil and even raise the dead. Luke, in Acts 10:38 gives credence to this: “How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him.”

The oppression came from the devil, but the Father anointed Jesus, who in turn, healed all who had been oppressed. It brings to mind the words of the Apostle Paul in Philippians 2:13: “For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure.”

Paul wasn’t guessing; he understood the words of Jesus when He said in John 14:10, “…but the Father that dwelleth in me, he doeth the works.” This is what the Holy Ghost does in us today; He’s at work in you, making you willing and causing you to do the Father’s will. He’s the one who makes you willing to serve God and helps you do His will. He’s alive in you. He talks through you and works in you.

He’s your ability. 2 Corinthians 3:5 (AMPC) says, “Not that we are fit (qualified and sufficient in ability) of ourselves to form personal judgments or to claim or count anything as coming from us, but our power and ability and sufficiency are from God.” Imagine if you’re conscious of this every day and allow this to work in your life; you’ll never complain anymore. Thoughts like, “I wish I could do this or that,” would be a thing of the past.

Stand up from within! Declare who you are in Christ, and His ability that’s at work in you. Affirm that He’s impacting the world through you, according to His power that works in you mightily. Declare that you can do all things through Christ that lives in, and strengthens you.

PRAYER
Dear Father, thank you for you’re the one who is active, alive, working in and through me, both to will and to do what pleases you. I’m strengthened by the Word and your Spirit, to daily express your goodness, love, kindness and righteousness to my world, thereby, fulfilling your purpose, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.

Ephesians 2:10 AMPC For we are God’s [own] handiwork (His workmanship), [a]recreated in Christ Jesus, [born anew] that we may do those good works which God predestined (planned beforehand) for us [taking paths which He prepared ahead of time], that we should walk in them [living the good life which He prearranged and made ready for us to live].

Hebrews 10:7 Then said I, Lo, I come (in the volume of the book it is written of me,) to do thy will, O God.

Unemployment Fear Grows As More Nigerians Lose Jobs
User Avatar Forum: Politics
Posted by: Edoman - 01-10-2018, 10:03 PM - No Replies

In this piece , IFEANYI ONUBA examines the unemployment crisis facing the country and what the government needs to do in order to reposition the economy on the path of sustainable growth
From official statistics, the rising unemployment rate in the country has become a source of concern. The labour statistics report released by the National Bureau of Statistics, for instance , showed that between January and September 2017 , about 4 . 07 million Nigerians became unemployed .
The bureau in the report stated that the number of Nigerians that became unemployed rose from 11 . 92 million in the first quarter of 2017 to 13. 58 million and 15 . 99 million in the second and third quarters respectively .
It said that between the second quarter and third quarter, the number of economically active or working age population (15 – 64 years of age ) increased from 110 . 3 million to 111 . 1 million .
The NBS report said the increasing unemployment and underemployment rates implied that although the Nigerian economy is officially out of recession , domestic labour market is still fragile .
It added that economic growths in the past two quarters in 2017 had not been strong enough to provide employment in Nigeria ’ s domestic labour market .
The report reads in part, “The labour force population increased from 83. 9 million in Q 2 2017 to 85. 1 million in Q 3 2017 . The total number of people in full - time employment (at least 40 hours a week ) declined from 52 . 7 million in Q 2 2017 to 51. 1 million in Q 3 2017 .
“ The unemployment rate increased from 14 . 2 per cent in Q 4 2016 to 16. 2 per cent in Q 2 2017 and 18. 8 per cent in Q 3 2017 .
“ The number of people within the labour force who are unemployed or underemployed increased from 13 . 6 million and 17. 7 million respectively in Q 2 2017 , to 15 . 9 million and 18. 0 million in Q 3 2017 .
“ Total unemployment and underemployment combined increased from 37 . 2 per cent in the previous quarter to 40 per cent in Q 3 2017. ”
It said that during the third quarter of 2017, 21 . 2 per cent of women within the labour force that were between the ages of 15 years and 64 years and willing, able , and actively seeking work were unemployed , compared with 16. 5 per cent of men within the same period .
The NBS noted in the report that in the third quarter of the year , 16 . 4 per cent of rural and 23. 4 per cent of urban dwellers within the labour force were unemployed . It added that the rate of unemployment was increasing at a slightly faster rate for urban dwellers than it was for their rural counterparts.
“ Underemployment is predominant in the rural areas, 26. 9 per cent of rural residents within the labour force in Q 3 2017 , are underemployed , compared to nine per cent of urban residents within the same period .
“ For the period under review , Q 3 , 2017 , the unemployment rate for young people stood at 33. 1 per cent for those aged 15 to 24 , and 20 . 2 per cent for those aged 25 to 34 , ” it added .
In terms of geographical spread , the NBS said in the report that as at the end of the third quarter, Rivers State reported the highest unemployment rate at 41. 82 per cent, followed by Akwa -Ibom (36. 58 per cent ), Bayelsa State (30. 36 per cent ), Imo state (29. 47 per cent) and Kaduna State (28. 96 per cent ).
It added that the unemployment population were heavily distributed in Southern states , North- Eastern states , North - Western states especially Kaduna and Sokoto , and two Central states , , Nasarawa and Plateau.
It explained that South -Western states including Oyo , Ogun and Lagos which have large labour forces reported relatively low unemployment rates .
Comparing Nigeria’ s third quarter’ s unemployment rate with the international rates , the report stated that Nigeria ranked 28th among other countries .
Against this backdrop , finance and economic experts on Friday warned that the situation may get worse if something urgent was not done to change the rising unemployment rate.
They said the combined forces of double - digit inflation , high unemployment rate and a fragile Gross Domestic Product growth which is still below the rate of population growth may conspire to prevent any significant economic improvement .
The President , Institute of Productivity and Business Innovation Management , Mr. Remi Dairo, said the magnitude of jobs created in the economy has not been sufficient to meet the ever - growing labour market , thus resulting in the continuous rise in the level of unemployment in the country.
The huge number of unemployment, he noted , was a reflection of the current economic realities as only few businesses were growing and employing while many others were shedding jobs .
He advocated a comprehensive education policy that would help to address the skill gaps in the country , noting that there was an urgent need to close the existing gaps between the extant programmes of educational institutions and the requirements in the industry .
This , according to him , could be achieved through the restructuring of the educational system to meet the present and future needs of the country.
He said , “ The lack of productive skills in both the private and public sectors is one of the major reasons for the country’ s under development and there is need for a comprehensive education policy that would help to address the skill gaps in the country.
“ In order to close the existing gaps in skills between the extant programmes of educational institutions and the requirements in the industry , the government needs to restructure the educational system to meet the present and future needs of the country.
“ While the potential of the economy is so huge, the requisite skills for young minds to match the pace of this growth are inadequate and this is one of the causes of unemployment.
“ We have to be productive as a nation . Productivity is not just a policy on paper; it should be practicable for every Nigerian so that we can maximize our output . ”
Also commenting , a developmental economist , Odilim Enwagbara , said in a telephone interview that a liquid foreign exchange market coupled with the Federal Government ’ s increased investment in the value chain segment of the agriculture sector would unlock the job creation potential of the economy .
He said , “ This country cannot develop without those who are passionate and ready to show us the unconditional ways of dealing with our fundamental economic problems . Let ’ s know that economic development is 70 per cent political decisions and 30 per cent economics.
“ Agriculture, particularly food processing , can create a lot of jobs because we don’ t need to import raw materials and it costs little or nothing to get food processed , we can process a lot of cassava and turn it into so many products and this will create a lot of jobs for the people .
“ To drive economic growth , there is need for investment in infrastructure. Without improving infrastructure, there is no way you can expect growth in an economy because industrialisation which is an essential way of creating jobs in an economy needs to be supported by infrastructure. ”
A former Managing Director , Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation , Ganiyu Ogunleye , explained that while the country may have been out or recession , there were structural challenges that needed to be addressed to improve the momentum to creating jobs.
He said , “The fact that we are out of recession is not yet uhuru as we still have some fundamental problems in our economy .
“ The structure of the economy itself is a challenge because we have relied heavily on the oil sector and efforts are on to diversify the economy . This cannot happen overnight; it ’ s going to take time .
“ So , for us to sustain our economy particularly now that we are out of recession , there should be a focus on agriculture which can lead to food sufficiency, create a lot of jobs and also provide raw materials for the industrial and manufacturing sectors . ”
The Director- General , Industrial Training Fund , Mr Joseph Ari , said the agency would increase its collaboration with both the public and private sectors this year so as to equip more Nigerians with skills for employability and entrepreneurship .
Ari said the modern skills acquisition programme would help to stem the current wave of illegal migration , especially by the youth that has culminated in loss of lives and enslavement of thousands of productive Nigerians.
He said there was need to take the issue of youth unemployment seriously , adding that if serious action was not taken , the problem would further escalate going by projection that by 2050 , Nigeria ’ s population would have grown to about 500 million .
The ITF boss added if equipped with the requisite skills, the large population would become advantageous to the country.

The 373 Edo indigenes, who were among the 481 Nigerians returned from Libya on Sunday, are protesting the non-payment of stipend for their transportation back home.

Among them are 73 women, some of who are expectant mothers.

They arrived Benin City about 1:30a.m. and were lodged at the Motel Benin Plaza by the Edo State government.

At 7:30a.m., the returnees were seen buying snacks, while those without money begged passersby before the government brought food for them.

Many of them looked unkempt, haggard and hungry.

The Federal Government said on Tuesday egg production, processing and marketing could create no fewer than one million jobs through its National Egg Production (NEGPRO) Scheme.
Chief Audu Ogbeh, the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, made this known in Abuja at a meeting with the Technical Committee on National Egg Production.
Ogbeh expressed optimism that the country would be self-sufficient in egg production through the scheme, by which poultry value chain would be developed across the 36 states of the country including FCT.
The minister said the scheme would be inaugurated in Ondo State and subsequently in other states of the country.
“The ministry will work with the committee and with the support of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), we will achieve the goal of the scheme.
“Unless we deal with the problem of food, Africa cannot survive,’’ he said.
The Chairman of the committee, Mr Toyin Taiwo, said in a document that the scheme was aimed at strengthening egg production, processing and consumption in the country.
Taiwo, who is also the Director, Animal Husbandry in the ministry, said the scheme would help diversify the economy and increase the contribution of agriculture to the country’s Gross Domestic Product.
“The scheme is for the period of five years and at full operation nationwide, it is expected to provide about 50 million table eggs daily for local consumption, export, processing into egg powder for use in confectioneries and pharmaceuticals,’’ he said.
Chief Tunde Badmus, the Chairman of Tuns Farms Limited and National Anchor of the scheme, said that farmers would be given loans by the CBN to kick start egg production across the country after the flag off of the programme in states.
He listed the facilitators of the scheme to include Bank of Agriculture, the Poultry Association of Nigeria, CBN and the Nigerian Agricultural Insurance Corporation.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalls that in 2016, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Tuns farms to develop the scheme to improve nutrition and egg production across the country.

Banks Deliberately Flood Market With Dirty Naira Notes—cbn
User Avatar Forum: Business/Investment

By Dipo Olowookere
Commercial banks operating in the country have been accused of deliberately flooding the market with dirty Naira notes, which have become an eyesore to citizens.
This is mainly seen in the N100 notes.
At several Automated Teller Machines (ATM) spread across the country, customers are given mutilated notes, a thing that has become a source of worry to many.
Acting Director of Corporate Communications at the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Mr Isaac Okoroafor, while commenting on the issue, also accused the banks of hoarding new notes.
He said commercial banks in the country receive enough new notes and wondered why they are not being circulated.
The CBN spokesman absolved the apex bank from the debacle, pushing it to the commercial banks. He said the banks were supposed to employ people to do the sorting for them, but they refused in order to avoid the cost of employing personnel for this.
“Instead of bringing them to us sorted, the banks bring them unsorted. Then we started charging them N12,000 per box. A box of N1000 notes contains N10 million worth. So, a box of N500 notes is N5 million in that order. So, in a bid to avoid cost, they preferred to re-circulate old and mutilated notes,” Mr Okoroafor said.
On why so many mutilated Naira notes are still in circulation, CBN image maker claimed that people handle these notes badly, making them unable to get to their lifespan anymore.
He said for the lower denomination notes, they have a higher velocity of circulation.
“What that means is that you use it more often and as you use it in exchange, it gets worn out and gets torn more frequently. So, that also creates another problem.”

A woman identified as Sahura reportedly gave birth to quadruplets, all boys, in her home at Zakara area of Makera village, Dutsinma Local Government Area of Katsina State without any form of local or
medical assistance.
It was gathered that after giving birth, Saturday evening, Sahura later proceeded to the General Hospital, Dutsinma.
A source in the hospital, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said though the babies are underweight, they all survived.
It was also gathered that the woman doesn’t have an ante-natal care attendance record and despite an offer to accommodate them for further examination in the hospital, they insisted on going back home to return the following day (yesterday), a promise they did not fulfill.
[Image: IMG-20180108-WA0004.jpg?resize=600%2C800]
The source said;
“it is true. The woman gave birth at home on Saturday. After the birth, the woman, the babies and the husband proceeded to the hospital on Sunday. “But when they were asked to stay in the hospital for further examination, they insisted on leaving to return the following day (yesterday).
But as I speak with you we have not seen them in the hospital. “And upon interrogation, we discovered she did not attend any hospital for antenatal care.
Again, there was no scan before the birth.”
*Congratulations but do not try this at home!

How Oprah matches up to Trump's net worth
User Avatar Forum: TV

American media mogul Oprah Winfrey is suddenly the topic of intense speculation about a potential 2020 presidential run after dominating the Golden Globes on Sunday.
Fueling the intrigue is the fact that the cultural icon stacks up well with President Trump — himself of course a mogul and cultural icon — in one department where Trump considers particularly important.
Wealth.
In fact, according to Bloomberg, Oprah has recently passed POTUS.

Winfrey, 63, has a net worth of $3.7 billion, according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index, boosted by a highly successful 10% investment in Weight Watchers. Trump, 71, is worth $2.9 billion, according to the same index — hurt by a drop in the value of three office properties in Manhattan.
The Bloomberg Billionaires Index tracks the net worth of the world’s richest people. (In October 2017, Forbes estimated Winfrey’s net worth was $3 billion and Trump’s net worth was $3.1 billion.)
Trump, who has loudly touted his net worth over the years, claimed to be worth more than $10 billion in a personal disclosure form filed during the 2016 presidential campaign.
Oprah’s Weight Watchers stake
On Oct. 19, 2015, Weight Watchers disclosed that Winfrey had joined its board and purchased 6,363,103 shares — a 10% stake in the company — at an average price of $6.79 per share. The stock closed the next day up 105%, and has seen a more than 350% increase since the announcement.

Today, with the stock price (WTW) trading above $55, Winfrey’s stake is valued at about $349 million, meaning she has made approximately $306 million in paper gains. Additionally, as part of the partnership, Winfrey received 3.5 million vested stock options at an exercisable price of $6.97 per share. Weight Watchers, meanwhile, got royalty-free licensing for Winfrey’s name and image and endorsement of its programs and products.
‘A new day is on the horizon!’
Talk of “Oprah 2020” became a recurrent theme during and after Sunday’s award’s show. In his opening monologue, host Seth Meyers used some reverse psychology to hint at a surprise Winfrey POTUS bid.
Oprah, while I have you, in 2011 I told some jokes about our current president at the White House Correspondents Dinner — jokes about how he was unqualified to be president — and some have said that night convinced him to run,” Meyers said. “So if that’s true, I just want to say: Oprah, you will never be president. You do not have what it takes.”
Later in the evening, Winfrey delivered an impassioned speech while accepting the Cecil B. DeMille Award for “outstanding contributions to the world of entertainment.”
“I want all the girls watching here, now, to know that a new day is on the horizon!” Winfrey said during a speech at Sunday’s Golden Globes that instantly went viral. “And when that new day finally dawns, it will be because of a lot of magnificent women, many of whom are right here in this room tonight — and some pretty phenomenal men — fighting hard to make sure that they become the leaders who take us to the time when nobody ever has to say ‘Me too’ again.”

The speech immediately sparked Oprah 2020 chatter on Twitter.
“It’s up to the people,” Winfrey’s longtime partner, Stedman Graham, told the Los Angeles Times on Sunday night. “She would absolutely do it.”
Oprah subsequently denied the presidential speculation to Bloomberg, but people around her have continued to stoke the speculation. CNN’s Brian Stelter, citing two of Winfrey’s friends, reported that Winfrey was “actively thinking” about running for president.
CBS’s “This Morning co-host Gayle King, who is editor-at-large of Oprah magazine, said on Tuesday morning that Winfrey was “intrigued by the idea.” King, a close friend of Winfrey’s, also said: ”She loves this country, and would like to be of service in some way.”
‘I never considered the question’
Oprah has interviewed Trump multiple times, including a 1988 interview in which she asked him about how he would handle U.S. foreign policy. Oprah said that his answer “sounded like political presidential talk to me” and asked him whether he’d ever run for president.
Trump responded: “Probably not,” but later added, “If I did decide to do it … I’d say that I’d have a hell of a chance of winning.”
Winfrey was asked last year — during an episode of “The David Rubenstein Show” that aired in March 2017 on Bloomberg Television — whether she had ever thought about running for the office.
“I — I actually never thought that was. I never considered the question even a possibility,” Winfrey said. “I just thought, ‘Oh. Oh.’”
“Right, because it’s clear you don’t need government experience to be elected president of the United States, right?” Rubenstein added.
“That’s what I thought!” Winfrey responded. “I thought, ‘Oh gee, I don’t have the experience. I don’t know enough.’ Now, I’m thinking: ‘Oh. Oh.’”
And then there’s this: In a 1999 interview with Larry King, Trump said that his first choice for running mate would be … Oprah Winfrey.

RHAPSODY OF REALITIES DAILY DEVOTIONAL (JANUARY PDF => http://bit.ly/2cuJG6M

*LIVE ABOVE THE SYSTEMS .*

Wednesday, January 10th .
Pastor Chris

_*Not that I speak in respect of want: for I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content (Philippians 4:11).*_

The life the Master lived here on earth was so impressive. Jesus was far removed from the decadence of the world, the penury around Him and the corruption and failure of His society. He lived far above, and beyond the government and systems of the day when He walked the earth.

We don’t find Jesus interfering with their politics or trying to do something about their economy. In other words, He didn’t bring some strange or heavenly currency into their system, yet He was never limited by money. Money was His slave. He was self-sufficient. Whatever He required, He didn’t need to call out to heaven; He brought it forth from within.

This is the life that He’s given us: He’s made us self-sufficient, to function above and beyond the systems of this world. He said you’re in the world, but not of the world. That means you’re not to be ruled, dominated or influenced by the systems, that is the crippling and corrupting influences in today’s world. You play by a different set of rules. Many around you may be influenced, and provoked to compromise as a result of the corruption in today’s world, but be like Jesus. Be independent of circumstances.

Think and talk like Paul, who said, _*“But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus”*_ (Philippians 4:19). In the eleventh verse, while in prison, he wrote: _*“Not that I speak in respect of want: for I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content*_ (independent of circumstances)” (Philippians 4:11). He was self-sufficient. Furthermore, he said, _*“I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me”*_ (Philippians 4:13).

Refuse to be enslaved by the system of this world; live above and beyond it. That’s the only way. Learn God’s Word and operate a law that’s higher than the law that runs in the systems of this world. Job 22:29 says, _*“When men are cast down, then thou shalt say, There is lifting up….”*_ Keep your head up high and maintain your faith-composure. When it seems like you’re beginning to feel the pressure, don’t give in; keep doing the Word. Shut yourself in and talk the Word. Hallelujah!

*PRAYER*

*I live above the economy and economics of this world. I’m immune to the hardships, corruption and decadence that ravage the lives of men. I live in the Word, and therefore, in victory and triumph always, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.*

*FURTHER STUDY:* *||* *Philippians 4:19* But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus. *||*

*||* *Matthew 17:27* Notwithstanding, lest we should offend them, go thou to the sea, and cast an hook, and take up the fish that first cometh up; and when thou hast opened his mouth, thou shalt find a piece of money: that take, and give unto them for me and thee. *||*

*||* *2 Corinthians 3:5* Not that we are sufficient of ourselves to think any thing as of ourselves; but our sufficiency [is] of God; *||*

I Predicted Nigerians Would Be Victims Of Buhari-apc ‘one-chance’ Bus - Abati

I Predicted Nigerians Would Be Victims Of Buhari-APC ‘one-chance’ Bus – Reuben Abati

The former presidential spokesman, Reuben Abati (SAN) recalls his warning to Nigerians to avoid President Buhari and the All Progressives Congress (APC) and they remained adamant.

In his latest article ‘Buhari: Between yesterday and tomorrow’, Abati said he was sure Buhari was driving a “One Chance” bus, and trying to lure unsuspecting Nigerians to certain despair.

“I wrote an article shortly after the postponement of the 2015 Presidential elections”, he said. “The piece, titled ‘Buhari’s One Chance Campaign’ never got published. One of my colleagues to whom I showed it advised against its publication. His point was that we should remain professional and not get involved in partisan politics”, he disclosed.

In the excerpts, Abati noted that Buhari was unelectable in 2003, 2007, 2011, and he was even far more unelectable in 2015.

“In his previous failed attempts, he was at least his own candidate, but this time, he is at best some other people’s Special Purpose Vehicle; that is why he comes across more in this campaign like a mannequin under the control of seen and unseen masters with hidden agenda”, he wrote.

“Nobody should seek the Presidency of Nigeria as an SPV. I argue that Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, apparently the owner of the APC, wants a Buhari Presidency because he imagines it will transform him, not Professor Yemi Osinbajo, not anyone else, into the most influential political figure in Yorubaland.

“The “treacherous” Rotimi Amaechi is busy dancing up and down because for him, a Buhari Presidency will enable him settle scores, with his imaginary enemies. “Festus Odimegwu, who was booted out as Chairman of the National Population Commission for making racist comments about Nigerians of Northern extraction wrote a Buhari endorsement article recently, it was actually a masked revenge piece.

“They will all be disappointed. And if General Buhari wants to be President, he needs to come across as his own man. “President Jonathan is his own man. All the self-proclaimed, would-have-been Godfathers to his presidency have on their own committed political suicide. He is tested, healthy, strong, focused and committed.

“He has campaigned on the basis of his record of achievements and the phenomenally positive transformation that Nigeria has witnessed under his watch in the past four years: the revived railways sector, the strengthened education sector, greater emphasis on youth, women empowerment and inclusive governance, a robust, economy, massive job creation, expansion of the space for human freedoms, and a purposeful, engaging campaign for a second term.

“In comparison, all I see on the Buhari side, is a lot of mean tactics, hate-driven propaganda, shallow costuming, third-party outsourcing of leadership, and manifold deception. Their attraction is that of a “One Chance” bus, not concrete vision, not change or progress, not leadership.”

Femi Fani-Kayode Files N10bn Suit Against Sahara Reporters For Defamation
User Avatar Forum: Other Stories
Posted by: Edoman - 01-09-2018, 05:51 PM - No Replies

Quote:Former Nigeria’s Aviation Minister and Chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Femi Fani-Kayode, has filed N10 billion lawsuit against Sahara Reporters, an online news agency based in New York City, United States.

The lawsuit is coming few days after FFK as he is fondly called and his wife were embroiled in a row over infidelity and an allegation of battery and molestation from FFK went viral.

Sahara Reporters had alleged in its report that Fani-Kayode, accused the “federal government of planning to assassinate his wife, this was contained in the fake prophesy given by a controversial priest, Apostle Suleman for 2018. “In reality, unknown to many Fani-Kayode had accused his wife of infidelity. The woman, disclosed family sources, is said to be pregnant with a set of triplets”.

The online news platform had insouciantly reported the news of an alleged infidelity, battery and molestation between the couple as the news received a heavy traffic as a result of Fani-Kayode’s past marital challenges.

The Sahara Reporters report has been generating lots of comments from sections of the Nigerian populace with many believing the reports in full throttle, typically.

Also in the Facebook posts to deny Sahara Reporters’ claims, FFK employed the use of heavy words and distanced himself from any of those allegations.

Sahara Reporters had also stated in their report that the triplets’ pregnancy carried by Precious Chikwendu was not FFK’s as they linked the ownership to Chikwendu’s boyfriend, who may be inexistent after all.

Apparently displeased with the report, Fani-Kayode took Sahara Reporters to court, demanding an apology and the sum of ten billion Naira (10 billion).

According to a letter dated January 6, signed by Wale Balogun (Esq), addressed to the Publisher of Sahara Reporters, Mr Omoyele Sowore and shared with ALEDEH, Fani-Kayode is suing Sahara Reporters for slander, falsehood and defamation of himself and his immediate family.

Well, it's a new year and the resolution for some families is to keep their relationships and private life private, maybe Mercy Johnson is one. Kudos if the actress has decided to keep her family life private in 2018.  A check on her Instagram handle indicates that all pictures related to her husband have been removed from the page. If it's a New year Resolution, this will be hard to keep the day they take very beautiful pictures and she feels like showing off.

RHAPSODY OF REALITIES

TUESDAY, 9TH JANUARY.

Pastor Chris

TOPIC ✨ AN ENTIRELY NEW LIFE✨

Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new (2 Corinthians 5:17).

The term “born again” isn’t a religious cliché, which connotes turning over a new leaf. When you ask some Christians how they know they’re born again, some would reply, “I know I’m born again, because the bad things I used to do, I do them no more. I’ve changed my ways, and now, I behave differently.” Being born again is much more than that. What you receive when you’re born again is an entirely new life. There’s no such thing as “The bad things I used to do, I do them no more,” because the person who did those things is dead. He doesn’t exist anymore.

When you received Christ into your life, something actually happened: your spirit was recreated. You were born of the Word of God and of the Spirit of God. You now have the life, nature and character of God. And when a man has the life, nature and character of God, he can only live like God. So, being born again is actually receiving the God-nature; becoming an associate of the God-kind.

Romans 6:6 says, “Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin.” Your old life or nature isn’t suspended; it’s dead; you’ve come up a new man; a new species of being; one that never existed before; one without a past. In the presence of God, everything you were before you were born again, and everything you did before you were born again has no record. This isn’t a promise. This is a statement of fact in the Word.

If you’re ignorant of this, you could be struggling with your past or with the sins you committed before you were born again. This, invariably, could make you ineffective in the things of God. No; you’re not a sinner. You’re the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus, because you’re born again (2 Corinthians 5:21).

Walk in the consciousness of your righteousness, and new life in Christ: “Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life” (Romans 6:4).

PRAYER
Dear Father, I thank you for your Word and the power therein to make me what it talks about. I live the transcendent life, walking in your glory and in the dominion of the Spirit. I live in victory, righteousness, peace and joy forever, in Jesus’ Name. Amen

FURTHER STUDY: Colossians 3:9 Lie not one to another, seeing that ye have put off the old man with his deeds;

2 Corinthians 5:21 For he hath made him [to be] sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.

Quote:A coalition of northern youths has kicked against any move by President Muhammadu Buhari to seek a second term in office. Their stance is backed by the National Chairman of the Action Democratic Party (ADP), Yabaji Yusuf Sani, an engineer.
The leader of the Northern Youths Coalition, Abdulmajeed Babangida Sa’ad, told journalists in Kano yesterday that Buhari’s three years in office had not shown any sign that there would be any meaningful improvement in the life of the people if offered a second term.

“The coalition, out of patriotism, is asking Mr. President to honourably shun any call on him to seek for second term in office by sycophants and mischievous politicians who are working for their interests that are detrimental to the diverse interests of the teeming populace.

Prostitute Returns To Work, 30 Minutes After Giving Birth
User Avatar Forum: Other Stories

A British prostitute returned to work in a notorious red light district just 30 minutes after giving birth, a Police Community Support Office has revealed.
This was revealed by Jacqui Fairbanks from the Police Community Support Office, who has been helping the sex workers in Hull’s Hessle Road for ten years and says there are currently around 40 of them working in the area at various times.
[Image: 47B469DB00000578-5229591-image-a-1_1514926736709.jpg]
Mental health problems are common and there are problems of trafficking and coercion by pimps and boyfriends, explained the officer.
One woman had a baby and, within half an hour, was back out on the streets. That’s how desperate some of these women are,’ she told the Hull Daily Mail.
This isn’t Pretty Woman, I’m afraid. Some rich punter isn’t going to come along and sweep these women off their feet and live happily ever after.
Our problem is that these women will not come and deal with us. Their self-esteem is so low that they enjoy the attention they receive and that is really sad.’
[Image: 47B469E300000578-5229591-image-a-2_1514926845387.jpg]
According to Fairbanks, she said engaging in prostitution are in their late 20s or early 30s to a couple of women in their 60s ‘thankfully we don’t have any young girls on the streets in Hull’.
When it comes to customers who patronize them, she said:
We have lads as young as 17 or 18 using these sex workers and the age range goes up to those in their 80s’.
PCSO Fairbanks says the lack of sympathy for prostitutes can be unfair.
There is a perception that these women are all on benefits but that is not always the case. For many, this is their only source of income.
At the end of the day these women are somebody's daughter. I try to tell them they are better than this. But all we can do is off them the help through the different agencies.

Breast Implants linked To Heightened Risk Of Rare Cancer
User Avatar Forum: Health Wise

Women with breast implants have an increased risk of getting a rare type of lymphoma, according to a new study published on Thursday in the journal JAMA Oncology.
But the overall chance of developing anaplastic large cell lymphoma (ALCL), a cancer of the immune system cells, as a result of having a breast augmentation is relatively low.
The heightened risk sounds alarming at first — researchers found that those with implants are 421 times more likely to develop this specific cancer than those without implants, but the number of women who actually get the disease after getting implants is still small.
About one in every 35,000 women who has a breast enhancement will develop ALCL by age 50 — a very small number considering that only about 4% of women in the U.S. go under the knife for this procedure.
Women should not panic,” the study’s lead author Daphne de Jong told Newsweek, “but they should be aware of it.”
Plus, the study was conducted in the Netherlands, where 45% of implants are textured, the authors said, and 82% of the women with this type of lymphoma had textured implants. Here in the U.S., a smoother, different type of implant is usually used.

Banks could pay bumper dividends as retained earnings soar
User Avatar Forum: Business/Investment

Banks in Africa’s largest economy could reward shareholders with a bumper dividend in 2018 as accumulated profit has soared, giving an impetus to capital.
Investors attach a strong attachment dividend because that income in the form of cash flow guarantees them a return on investment.
Analysts are of the view that banks that have a track record of paying benefit to shareholders will do so this year but those that are burdened by bad asset quality, liquidity issues and battered reserves may be hindered from paying huge dividends.
The cumulative accumulated profit of fourteen (14) biggest lenders in Nigeria spiked by 8 percent to N542.43 billion in September 2017 as against N500.88 billion as at September 2016.
A firm with robust retained earnings could either reward owners or reinvest the money back in the business for future such as acquisitions.
Some lenders with accumulated loses may not reward shareholders as such payment must be made out of distributable profit.
Drilling down the figures shows Union Bank Plc recorded negative retained earnings of N254.18 billion in September 2017, higher than the N244.18 billion deficits recorded as at December 2016, according to data gathered by BusinessDay.
Unity Bank Plc’s accumulated losses stood at N273.64 billion in the period under review, 0.54 percent reduction from the N275.14 billion deficits recorded as at December 2016.
Similarly, Wema Bank Plc recorded negative retained earnings of N36.44 billion in September 2017 compared to N39.18 billion deficits as at December 2016.
However, Zenith Bank, Access Bank, and united Bank for Africa (UBA) are likely reward owners of the business as accumulated profit increased by 41.92 percent, 31.92 percent, 40.17 percent and 14.73 percent to N312.67 billion, N113.92 billion, N126.54 billion and N159.04 billion, respectively.
Zenith, GTBank, UBA Access, FBNH, Stanbic IBTC Holdings, Fidelity, and FCMB paid a combined interim plus final dividend of N184.54 billion in 2017, which is 19.52 percent higher than 2016’s figure of N154.40 billion.
Bank rally since the mid-2016 could result in lower dividend yield (DY) as there is a relationship between dividend payment and market value.
Zenith has a dividend yield of 7.39 percent, GTBank, 4.84 percent; UBA, 6.89 percent; Access, 6.09 percent; FBNH, 2.15 percent, Stanbic IBTC Holdings, 1.42 percent; Fidelity, 4.76 percent, and FCMB, 5.26 percent.
Some firms are not known to have a steady dividend policy as the owners believe they can invest the money for shareholders more than they can do.
For instance, Warren Edward Buffett, American business magnate, investor, and philanthropist and Chairman and CEO of Berkshire Hathaway is loath to paying dividend.

Pennsylvania Man Jailed For Marrying Mother, Daughter At The Time

[Image: Christopher-Hauptmann-who-allegedly-marr...68x432.png]
A Pennsylvania man Christopher I. Hauptmann has been sentenced to prison after he was found guilty of marrying a 43-year-old woman and her 18-year-old daughter at the same time.
The 44-year-old Hauptmann was convicted of bigamy, forgery and unsworn falsification to authorities as he married the young lady without first divorcing her mother, Inside Edition reports.
The presiding judge therefore ordered Hauptmann to serve a term ranging from one year minus a day to two years minus a day.
Reports say Hauptmann had used the alias “Christopher Buckley” on some documents.
Ironically, the former owner of bail bonds business in Shamokin, about 70 miles north of Harrisburg, was unable to post his own bail.
But his 332 days of time already served will go toward his sentence after Shannon Deitrich, the woman Hauptmann married in 2015, testified against him.
Hauptmann married Deitrich’s daughter, Kaylee Durovick, the following year without having first divorced Deitrich.
The daughter was 18 at the time of the incident.
Hauptmann is now prohibited from contacting Deitrich, but is reportedly still married to Durovick.

She Seduced Me, It’s Devil’s Work": Man Impregnates Mother-In-Law In Nasarawa

Victoria Ulaha is in a dilemma. If it were possible, she would turn back the hands of time and wish all that happened to her never did.
This native of Keana Local Government Area of Nasarawa State, is married to John Ulaha, 45, of Awe Local Government Area of the same state, a farmer and carpenter in Lafia. Both husband and wife are in agony as you read this.
The problem is that in sowing his wild oats, John Ulaha impregnated another woman. What makes his sin so obnoxiously unforgivable? The woman in question is his mother-in-law! Right now, his wife is in a great fix as to what to do about the ugly and shameful development.
Victoria, blessed with a daughter, lives in Lafia where she manages a provision store while her husband runs a carpentry workshop. But by way of augmenting their incomes, they are heavily involved in farming activities in Awe, where they hire labourers to work on their farms.
Inviting trouble in an innocuous way
After the implementation of anti-grazing law in Benue State pushed over 85% of Fulani herdsmen from Benue to settle in Awe, they started destroying, at an alarming rate, farmlands belonging to others.
This situation made Victoria to invite her mother who is a widow to come over and help her husband harvest their farm produce of yam and guinea corn since she was very busy with her shop business in Lafia. In the course of time, sometime in mid-September 2017, John and his mother-in-law, Mrs. Ashetu Igbasue, 42, relocated to Awe in order to fast-track their harvesting.
Three months into the pair’s sojourn, the bubble burst and Victoria found a big scandal on her hand when her mother came reporting dejectedly that she was pregnant. For whom? Her daughter’s husband!
I’m distressed, I don’t know how to handle this matter,” Victoria told Saturday Sun as she threw her hand helplessly into the air. “I got married to my husband nine years ago. The marriage is blessed with a baby girl and my mother used to come around to spend some time with us especially when she lost her husband.
But this time around, I personally requested that she should come and help us do some work on the farm. Since then she had been in the village with my husband helping on the farm, though both of them used to come to Lafia regularly to pick supplies and go back because they were determined to evacuate all crops from the farm to the house before herdsmen could come to destroy them.
here was a time my husband came to Lafia to get some cooking ingredients and I asked him whether they were feeding well. He told me lightheartedly that my mother’s cooking was more delicious than mine. I did not suspect anything bad. I believed my husband. And, moreover, the woman in question is my mother, not a rival.”The disastrous deed
The last time my mother came to Lafia from my husband’s village, she shockingly told me that she did not see her period for the first and second month running which implies that she is pregnant and said that my husband is responsible for it. She said she wants it aborted because it would be a shameful thing for her to be pregnant at her age when her husband is not alive.
I invited her to come and assist me to take care of our farm work since Fulani people have been destroying it, but I did not know that my husband had established a love relationship with her. She confessed to me that my husband was responsible for her pregnancy.”
Expressing her disappointment at her husband’s behaviour, Victoria remarked: “It would have been better for him to get a second wife who will be stationed at home or even look for a girlfriend to satisfy him in my absence rather than going into a love affair with my own mother; it is a very shameful thing and an abomination of the highest order; it is wrong.”
Victoria who said she is ashamed and rattled by the development, promised to take proper action after she recovers from the shock. But for now, she had ruled out the option of opting out of the marriage.
How and why the devil struck
The mother-in-law, Mrs. Igbasue, said that it all started in the farm during a joke which led to sex later in the night when they returned from the farm. “I agreed to his demand for sex and thought it was just to satisfy his sexual feelings, but somehow, it became a daily thing,” she confessed.
I never thought I could get pregnant due to my age. I told my daughter the truth so that we can get a solution to it and out of anger she went public with it. I have since regretted my action. My intention is to find a way and abort it. My daughter earlier agreed to look for somebody to abort it for me because I can’t keep it. The whole thing was temptation and I completely regret it. I have pleaded for forgiveness from her.”
When our correspondent confronted John with the issue, he was furious that his wife had let the cat out of the bag to Saturday Sun on what he considers to be a family affair” and, therefore, supposed to be resolved internally. He claimed that his mother-in-law seduced him by always exposing herself while they worked on the farm, especially, whenever both of them came together to eat.
She would always sit half-Unclad before me; at first, it was embarrassing to me,” he said. “But I later discovered that her actions were an open invitation and as a man, I was tempted at a point, and that led to something else. And we both continued in that order until our actions resulted in pregnancy.”
Recall, regret and retribution
John who attributed the whole scandal to Satan’s work, added that he never imagined that the woman could become pregnant. He admitted that he has deeply offended God as well as his wife for going too far by sleeping with his mother-in-law to extent of getting her pregnant, adding that the pregnancy won’t stand as he will do his best by pleading with his wife to accept aborting it.
I have regretted what happened. It is not in my character and the shame this very act has brought to me, my wife and the entire village as well as those who know me is unbearable,” he . “Since my wife leaked this out, I have not been comfortable and have lost appetite for food. I have been pleading with her to forgive me because it is the devil’s work.”

Woman wakes up as man sexually assaults her on air

A 22-year-old woman woke up to find a man sexually assaulting her while she slept aboard a Spirit Airlines flight to Detroit.
The man sitting next to her was apprehended and charged with aggravated sexual abuse by federal authorities following the flight Wednesday.
The woman was sitting in the window seat next to the man, Prabhu Ramamoorthy. She was awoken to find her shirt and pants unbuttoned with Ramamoorthy digitally penetrating her, according to The Detroit News.

Ramamoorthy stopped when he saw that the woman was awake. The woman notified a flight attendant.
Ramamoorthy was then detained by the Wayne County Airport Authority. He later told authorities that he had fallen into a deep sleep and did not assault the woman.
But then he admitted to FBI officials that he “might have” unclasped the bra of the woman sleeping next to him, grabbed her breast and unzipped her pants, according to the publication.
According to the Association of Flight Attendants-CWA, a union for flight attendants, one out of five flight attendants surveyed from a group of 2,000 last year said they had received a report of a passenger being sexually assaulted.

Woman Sues NYPD After Cop Allegedly Arrested Her for Rejecting His Sexual Advances

A Brooklyn woman is suing the city of New York and NYPD Officer Javier Munoz after a traffic stop turned into a case of sexual harassment.
Jasmine Campbell is asking for $2M for a traffic stop on Feb. 26, 2014, during which Munoz allegedly “kept looking at me and leaned in like he wanted to have a private talk.”
He kept looking down at my chest. He asked me, ‘Do you have anything underneath your shirt?’ I said, ‘No.’ I felt embarrassed. He leaned in further and asked, ‘Do you want to show me something?’ He said that with a smirk on his face.”“Now, all this sexual harassment is big news — but I have been telling the same story since 2014. This is not something new to me,” she added.

According to ABC News, the stop happened while Campbell was on her way to get something to eat with a friend. On the way, she was stopped by Munoz and another, unidentified cop. Munoz ordered Campbell out of the driver’s seat with her hands up, where the other cop allegedly asked her for a hug, which she refused.
Unknown to Campbell, her friend was carrying a small amount of marijuana. Both of them were taken to the 75th Precinct after he confessed. However, the friend was released with a ticket while Campbell was booked on misdemeanor charges of resisting arrest, obstructing governmental administration and criminal possession of marijuana.
Munoz and the city have denied the claims, saying,
There was probable cause for [Campbell’s] arrest, detention, and subsequent prosecution.” They attempted to reach a settlement with Campbell for $2,500, but she rejected.

Campbell’s lawyer, Lawrence LaBrew said, “The arrest of Ms. Campbell was a sham and the city appears to be condoning this conduct, based on their position.”

Nigerian banks stop ATM cash withdrawal abroad
User Avatar Forum: Business/Investment

Oyetunji Abioye
A number of Deposit Money Banks in the country have barred their customers from using debit and credit cards to withdraw dollars, euros, pounds and other foreign currencies whenever they travel abroad, investigation by our correspondent has revealed.
The development may put business and leisure travellers, who may need hard currencies to meet some obligations abroad, in a difficult situation.

[url=http://punchng.com/breaking-notorious-kidnapper-don-waneys-corpse-arrives-port-harcourt/][/url]
Also, students who are studying abroad and often rely on withdrawing hard currencies with their Nigerian payment cards from Automatic Teller Machines abroad to meet certain needs may find the situation challenging.
Findings by our correspondent revealed that the naira volatility of the past year made many of the Nigerian banks to get their fingers burnt and the fear of losing heavily to possible future currency volatility was making them to exercise restraint in reactivating overseas ATM withdrawal services for their customers.
However, some banks, which are said to be having high risk appetite and some with partner banks overseas to make settlements easier, are having a smooth ride and as such, have reactivated the ATM withdrawal service overseas.
A top banker close to the development, who spoke to our correspondent under the condition of anonymity said, “Each bank has various reasons for not yet activating their overseas ATM cash withdrawal service. For some banks, they ran into losses last year when the naira fell and, as such, they are trying to minimise their risks now.
“For such banks, there is no plan to reactivate it. Some others banks are not ready to reactivate the service because they are trying to check customers who are doing round-tripping. It is for various reasons that the banks are not stopping yet.”
Findings by our correspondent revealed that while almost all the banks allowed customers to use their payment cards to do Point of Sale and web transactions overseas, a number of them had suspended their ATM cash withdrawals without indicating when they would resume.
It was gathered that Guaranty Trust Bank Plc, Fidelity Bank Plc, Stanbic IBTC Bank and Standard Chartered Bank Nigeria were among the lenders that had suspended their ATM cash withdrawal services.

When our correspondent put a call through to their customer service centres, the banks confirmed they had suspended the services without stating the reason and possible resumption plans.
The customer service personnel, however, said the PoS service abroad and Web services were available for customers to use.
Some bankers told our correspondent that in terms of volume, Nigerian banks were spending more in overseas settlements from PoS and Web than in ATM cash withdrawal.
They said the fear of money laundering by customers was a major reason why some banks had to stop ATM cash withdrawal overseas.
They also stated that for some banks, the settlement issues they had when the dollar was scarce last year was making them to limit their card usage abroad to only PoS and Web transactions.
Following the crash in global oil prices, the drop in Nigeria’s foreign exchange revenue and the resultant dollar scarcity that hit the economy had made the local banks to suspend the ATM cash withdrawal and the PoS services abroad. They also stopped web transactions.
However, following the improvement in forex supply early this year, some banks announced the resumption of the services.
Some of the banks that have resumed full services in these area include United Bank for Africa Plc and First Bank of Nigeria Limited. Similarly, Zenith Bank Plc, Ecobank Nigeria and Skye Bank Plc have announced that their customers can do the ATM cash withdrawal, the PoS and web transactions.
But some of the banks, which have yet to resume full services, claimed that the regulator was not giving them approval to do so.

The U.S president, Donald Trump has fired those who rants about his mental stability and intelligence.
Following the publication of Fire and Fury: Inside the Trump White House by Michael Wolff, which has already provoked a very public rift with his former strategist, Steve Bannon, one of the main sources of the book.
The President says he went from been a very successful businessman to top TV star to President of the United States for his first try. But he thinks those words qualifies him as a smart and genius. Even a very stable genius at that.
As usual, the President took to twitter and he wrote;
Actually, throughout my life, my two greatest assets have been mental stability and being, like, really smart. Crooked Hillary Clinton also played these cards very hard and, as everyone knows, went down in flames. “I went from very successful businessman to top TV star to President of the United States (on my first try). I think that would qualify as not smart, but genius…and a very stable genius at that!”

Declare Herdsmen Terrorists - Benue Governor To Federal Government
User Avatar Forum: Politics
Posted by: Edoman - 01-08-2018, 02:28 PM - No Replies

Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom tells select journalists including JOHN CHARLES that those behind the New Year attacks are well known to the Federal Government and should be arrested

What is your reaction to the violent protests over the New Year killings?
What started as a very peaceful demonstration by the students of Benue State turned into a rowdy situation, but I understand; I can feel the anger of the people. Even as a leader, I had to control myself when I saw the level of damage that was done against my people. But in situations like this, the simple message I try to pass to the youths and everybody in Benue State is that they should remain calm.
This government is proactive and will continue to ensure the security of lives and property. The promulgation of open grazing law was an initiative of the Benue people and it’s a very popular law. For us, that is the only way we can ensure peace for farmers and herdsmen to coexist and live together.
Are you saying the killings were as a result of the anti-open grazing law your administration enacted recently?
Ranching is the global best practice and there is no alternative. I want to appeal to my people to remain calm. In a situation like this, you cannot think of reprisal or anger as a solution to the problem that has been caused. Let us continue to be law-abiding and ensure that the perpetrators are brought to book. I have reported this to the President. I have reported this to the security agencies and they are working towards it. I have repeated my call that the leadership of Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore should be arrested. I had earlier given this notice to the security agencies and reported these people to the Presidency because they came out boldly and said they were going to resist the law and that they would do everything possible to sabotage what we are doing.
How far has the government gone in calming frayed nerves?
Right from yesterday (Tuesday) when we got wind of this incident, we did not waste time. I had to break from our security council meeting and I personally visited two scenes of the incidents in Guma and Logo local government areas. I was supposed to complete the remaining two scenes today but, unfortunately, I have run out of time now but we have already, with the security council, done deployment to all the places and I appeal to people not to run away from their villages until we are able to handle this.
Why are you insisting on the arrest of the leadership of Miyeitti Alla Kauta Hore?
I think the right thing to do is for the Federal Government to rise to its responsibility and arrest the leadership of Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore. They did not hide their feelings because they came out openly and threatened to frustrate the law. If the Federal Government does not do this, they are telling us that we are not part of Nigeria and it would be unfortunate because it is the responsibility of the Federal Government to provide us with security. The security apparatus of this country belongs to the Federal Government and they have the capacity.
[Image: Ortom.jpg?itok=rMUw1OQK]Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue state
These people are known, I have reported them to the President and currently, they have taken us to court. They issued several press statements and threats against us and their threats have become reality. They are living in Abuja with the Federal Government so why can’t the Federal Government do something?
They are throwing us into a state of anarchy, which is wrong. We have done everything to ensure that peace prevails here. I want to assure everyone living in Benue that we will continue to protect them, provide security for lives and property. Let us restrain our anger, although it is painful. I understand and feel the pains of Benue people. I feel the pains of Benue youths. I feel the pains of mothers. I feel the pains of fathers whose relatives have been murdered in cold blood but I want to assure them that justice will take its course. This law remains a law in Benue State and there is no going back on it. The perpetrators must be brought to book and I can assure you that Benue will be well.
There is a debate going on about community policing. Does the current security situation in Benue make you see the need for state police in the country?
Concerning the issue of state police, I remain committed to democratic principles. It is not for me to decide whether we should have state police or not but if the people, the stakeholders of Benue State, agree to do it, I will have no objection to having state police. But this is something that has to be subjected to a debate and we will get the inputs of all stakeholders so that we can weigh the various options. Whether state police or federal police, what is important is for the police to enforce the law. That is what I am saying. The police must enforce the law. There should be no sacred cows as we are seeing today. I have reported Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore, their president and secretary — these two persons who persistently alerted us that they were going to come after Benue State to cause havoc and they have done it. I am repeating that call; if there was another place where I could take my case, I would do it. I have no option but I reported this to the President yesterday (Tuesday) and he assured me that he would get the Inspector General of Police to act and I believe that that will be complied with and until that is done, I am not going to rest.
Aside from the communities that were attacked in the last two days, are there new ones that have been attacked?
Like I said yesterday (Tuesday) we visited Tomatar, where a lot of people were killed. This is also part of Guma, but on the other side of the river. I visited Azege in Logo LGA, where people were also killed and some wounded. I also visited the temporary refugee camps in Tse Abi and Agenke in Guma LGA and Ayilamo in Logo. There are two other places that were also attacked in Umenger, Guma LGA. This is the other side of the river and also in my council ward, in Ako. These are the two sites that I have yet to visit but I intend to do so. Here too, people were wounded and killed; I have yet to get the full brief from there.
While you were going round to inspect some flashpoints in Tomatar yesterday, you reportedly came across some bulletproof vests with the colours of the Army. How true is this?
Regarding the bulletproof vest, I was told but I have yet to see them. I’m waiting; it was when I left that I received a phone call, but in situations like this, you don’t act on rumours. I’ve heard a lot of things but I’m waiting to confirm because it coming from me will mean that it is authentic information and you have to be careful what you say as a leader, otherwise you will create other challenges which you may not be able to control.
The youths that were protesting the killing of their brothers, mothers and fathers nearly mobbed you. Is this a rejection of your leadership?
On the incident this afternoon (Wednesday), you could feel the anger. You could see the anger of the youths, I also feel the pains. I’m also angry but the Bible says be angry but do not let the sun go down on your wrath. So, even when you are angry, you have to find a way of controlling it, otherwise, you will mess up yourself. That is why I’m appealing to youths, for it is said that two wrongs cannot make a right. We can’t solve this problem by creating another wrong. Government is on top of the situation as of today. Yesterday, the security council met. It was as a result of the blockage that the security council decided to move to the scene and appeal to the youths to allow free movement but it became rowdy. Like I said, these are very sad days for Benue State. Corpses were brought to the mortuary. When we visited, more corpses were being brought in and even today more corpses were discovered. So, you can see the anger of the people and that is why government must act.
One thing that will give the people confidence is when the president and secretary of Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore are arrested and prosecuted because there is enough evidence of what they’ve done and I am accusing them directly. I expect that to be done and since I have reported to the President, I’m waiting to have a response from the security agencies because people should not operate with impunity. If we do that and everybody decides to take the law into his hands, then we are calling for anarchy and you don’t know the extent that can go.
Challenges are meant to be overcome and I believe that God will help us to definitely overcome this and I believe that tomorrow, those who are resisting this law will celebrate the law for there is no way of moving forward arising from the challenges that we have today in Nigeria on land. The land is no longer there and I will continue to say it. We are farmers and there is no way we can surrender our land again for grazing but all business people who are willing to go into cattle rearing business are free to obtain permits and do ranching in Benue State.

Meghan Markle’s Christmas present to the Queen ended up being mauled by dog

[Image: meghan%2Bmarkle%2Bchristmas%2Bpresent%2B...Bqueen.jpg]
The Queen Of England is probably one of the hardest people to buy a present for - and newly engaged Megan Markle had to do just that this Christmas.
It’s now been revealed that Meghan got her future grandmother-in-law a
singing toy hamster – which the Queen’s prize corgis went on to maul to pieces.
The Daily Star reports that her Majesty was so happy with the present that she burst out laughing, before remarking: “It can keep my dogs company.”
A source said: “Meghan bought a little hamster that sings with a little rope for Her Majesty. “It was so funny, especially when the corgis tried to take hold of the toy.”
The royal family give each other presents on Christmas Eve as a reference to their German lineage and it’s thought that they do jokey gifts as they already have everything they could ever want or need.
The source revealed that they have a traditional way of arranging their presents, too. While Megan may have impressed with her gift, it seems she’s not going to get the chance to wear any of the crown jewels – yet .
Strict etiquette rules prohibit unmarried women from wearing tiaras - like the ones Kate is frequently spotted sporting.
And thus Meghan won’t be allowed to pop on a mini crown of her own until after she says “I do” with Prince Harry, 33, this spring. “Flashy diamonds and tiaras are not worn during the day, and only married ladies wear tiaras,” Etiquette expert Grant Harold told The BBC. “For married ladies it was a sign of status and would show you were taken and not looking for a husband,” the manners expert continued.
“For the gentleman it was a clear sign not to make advances toward the lady in question,” he added.
Harry and Meghan's nuptials are scheduled for May 2018.

Malami Has Asked Court To Stop Senate Probe Of Pension Fraudster Maina’s Recall

Abubakar Malami, attorney-general of the federation, has filed a suit before a federal high court in Abuja, seeking to stop the senate from probing the reinstatement of Abdulrasheed Maina into the civil service. TheCable understands that the suit has been assigned to Binta Nyako, a judge of the federal high court, Abuja. Senate’s decision to conduct a forensic investigation instigated Malami’s court action, sources in his ministry told TheCable.

Maina, former chairman of the presidential task force on pension reforms, was recalled and deployed to the ministry of interior under controversial circumstances.
Amid the outcry of the news of his reinstatement, President Muhammadu Buhari ordered his sack and asked Winifred Oyo-Ita, head of the civil service of the federation, to probe the embarrassing situation.
TheCable had published documents which showed the involvement and full knowledge of Oyo-Ita, Malami and Abdulrahman Dambazau, minister of interior, in Maina’s reinstatement.
The federal civil service commission dismissed Maina in 2013 for absconding from duty following a recommendation by the office of the head of service.
He was accused of being involved in pension fraud running into over N100 billion. After an investigation by the senate joint committee on public service and establishment and state and local government administration, a warrant of arrest was issued against him.
[Image: Abubakar-Malami_1.jpg?itok=GKg-f1LT]Abubakar Malami  Subsequently, the police declared him wanted and he went into hiding. He reportedly fled to the United Arab Emirates (UAE). It was after his long absence from office that he was dismissed.
On October 24, the senate mandated its committees on public service, internal affairs, anti-corruption, establishment and judiciary to probe the circumstances of Maina’s return to the country and the public service.
But Malami has asked the court to determine if the national assembly has the right to probe issues relating to the “employment, attendance at work, disengagement, reinstatement and or promotion of a civil servant”.
According to documents seen by TheCable, the attorney-general is asking the court to among other things declare that: “the employment, attendance at work, disengagement, reinstatement and or promotion of a civil servant are matters outside the exclusive and concurrent legislative lists contained in the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 (as amended).
“That the national assembly cannot legitimately regulate the employment, attendance at work, disengagement, reinstatement and or promotion of a civil servant, which are matters exclusively within the purview of the Federal Civil Service Commission under the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria1999 (as amended).
“The national assembly lacks the legislative competence to investigate the employment, attendance at work, disengagement, reinstatement and or promotion of a civil servant which are matters exclusively within the purview of the Federal Civil Service Commission under the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria1999 (as amended).
“The power of investigation vested the national assembly by section 88 (1) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 (as amended) is limited and such that can only be exercised within the confines of Section 88 (2) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 (as amended).
“The plaintiff as the chief law officer and minister of justice of the federation is bound to ensure compliance by the Federal Government of Nigeria and or any of its cognate organs/agencies with the express or implied contents of extant Judgements and Orders of competent courts in Nigeria.
“The defendant cannot constitute itself into a quasi-appellate court, tribunal or panel with a view to reviewing any executive action taken in compliance with the adverse judgment in the said Suit No: FHC/ABJ/CS/65/2013.”
The house of representatives is also probing Maina’s recall.
When he appeared before the panel of the lower legislative chamber in November, Malami denied his involvement in Maina’s recall.
He also accused federal lawmakers of being part of pension fraud.

Oprah Winfrey won the Cecil B. Demille award, making her the First Black Woman to win
User Avatar Forum: TV

[Image: oprah%2Bwinfrey%2Bdelivers%2Bspeech%2Bat...globes.jpg]
Media mogul, Oprah Winfrey, at the 75th Golden Globes which held last night, won the Cecil B. Demille award, making her the First Black Woman to win The Award since its inception in 1943.
Delivering her speech, Opray , being the role model that she is, says;
Ah! Thank you. Thank you all. O.K., O.K. Thank you, Reese. In 1964, I was a little girl sitting on the linoleum floor of my mother’s house in Milwaukee, watching Anne Bancroft present the Oscar for best actor at the 36th Academy Awards. She opened the envelope and said five words that literally made history: “The winner is Sidney Poitier.” Up to the stage came the most elegant man I had ever seen. I remember his tie was white, and of course his skin was black. And I’d never seen a black man being celebrated like that. And I’ve tried
many, many times to explain what a moment like that means to a little girl — a kid watching from the cheap seats, as my mom came through the door bone-tired from cleaning other people’s houses. All I can do is quote and say that the explanation’s in Sidney’s performance in “Lillies of the Field”: “Amen, amen. Amen, amen.” In 1982, Sidney received the Cecil B. DeMille Award right here at the Golden Globes, and it is not lost on me that at this moment there are some little girls watching as I become the first black woman to be given this same award.
It is an honor, and it is a privilege to share the evening with all of them, and also with the incredible men and women who inspired me, who challenged me, who sustained me and made my journey to this stage possible. Dennis Swanson, who took a chance on me for “A.M. Chicago”; Quincy Jones, who saw me on that show and said to Steven Spielberg, “Yes, she is Sophia in ‘The Color Purple’”; Gayle, who’s been the definition of what a friend is; and Stedman, who’s been my rock — just a few to name. I’d like to thank the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, because we all know that the press is under siege these days.
But we also know that it is the insatiable dedication to uncovering the absolute truth that keeps us from turning a blind eye to corruption and to injustice. To tyrants and victims and secrets and lies. I want to say that I value the press more than ever before, as we try to navigate these complicated times. Which brings me to this: What I know for sure is that speaking your truth is the most powerful tool we all have. And I’m especially proud and inspired by all of the women who have felt strong enough and empowered enough to speak up and share their personal stories. Each of us in this room are celebrated because of the stories that we tell. This year we became the story. But it’s not just a story affecting the entertainment industry. It’s one that transcends any culture, geography, race, religion, politics or workplace.
So I want tonight to express gratitude to all the women who have endured years of abuse and assault, because they — like my mother — had children to feed and bills to pay and dreams to pursue. They’re the women whose names we’ll never know. They are domestic workers and farm workers; they are working in factories and they work in restaurants, and they’re in academia and engineering and medicine and science; they’re part of the world of tech and politics and business; they’re our athletes in the Olympics and they’re our soldiers in the military.
And they’re someone else: Recy Taylor, a name I know and I think you should know, too. In 1944, Recy Taylor was a young wife and a mother. She was just walking home from a church service she’d attended in Abbeville, Ala., when she was abducted by six armed white men, raped, and left blindfolded by the side of the road, coming home from church. They threatened to kill her if she ever told anyone, but her story was reported to the N.A.A.C.P., where a young worker by the name of Rosa Parks became the lead investigator on her case and together they sought justice. But justice wasn’t an option in the era of Jim Crow. The men who tried to destroy her were never persecuted. Recy Taylor died 10 days ago, just shy of her 98th birthday. She lived, as we all have lived, too many years in a culture broken by brutally powerful men. And for too long, women have not been heard or believed if they dared to speak their truth to the power of those men. But their time is up. Their time is up. Their time is up.
And I just hope that Recy Taylor died knowing that her truth — like the truth of so many other women who were tormented in those years, and even now tormented — goes marching on. It was somewhere in Rosa Parks’s heart almost 11 years later, when she made the decision to stay seated on that bus in Montgomery. And it’s here with every woman who chooses to say, “Me too.” And every man — every man — who chooses to listen. In my career, what I’ve always tried my best to do, whether on television or through film, is to say something about how men and women really behave: to say how we experience shame, how we love and how we rage, how we fail, how we retreat, persevere, and how we overcome. And I’ve interviewed and portrayed people who’ve withstood some of the ugliest things life can throw at you, but the one quality all of them seem to share is an ability to maintain hope for a brighter morning — even during our darkest nights.
So I want all the girls watching here and now to know that a new day is on the horizon! And when that new day finally dawns, it will be because of a lot of magnificent women, many of whom are right here in this room tonight, and some pretty phenomenal men, fighting hard to make sure that they become the leaders who take us to the time when nobody ever has to say, ‘Me too,’ again. Thank you.”

I want all of the girls watching here now to know, that a new day is on the horizon.” @Oprah accepts the 2018 Cecil B. de Mille award. #GoldenGlobes pic.twitter.com/hbquC1GBjm

Shehu Sani, the senator representing Kaduna Senatorial District, has urged President Muhammadu Buhari's administration to stop protecting Fulani herdsmen, saying their murderous attacks on farmers in various parts of the country have eroded the integrity of the government.
Mr. Sani's offered his advice in a press statement issued on Sunday. Titled "Herdsmen and Helmsmen", the statement condemned the repeated horrors visited on farmers by the herdsmen. [Image: Shehu-Sanni.jpg?itok=bFkie5D3]Senator Shehu Sani
”The mass murder in Southern Kaduna, Taraba, Benue, Numan and other affected places are unpardonable and despicable crime.
These killings and bloodletting threaten the peace, stability and unity of our country," Mr. Sani said.
He urged helmsmen, an allusion to political leaders, to urgently confront the herdsmen, adding that repeated condolences will not end the bloodshed.
"Every attack erodes the credibility and integrity of the present administration and every drop of blood stains the conscience of all men in the position of power.
Enough blood has been spilled by herdsmen to stain the Rivers of Niger and Benue. Mr President, there are vultures flying over the heads, the villages and communities of our people," he stated.
The senator argued that no government policy or programme is more important than human lives. He urged the government to stop protecting, pampering paying, politicizing and prevaricating on  the herdsmen.
Mr. Sani added that the country's political leaders are more interested and preoccupied with the 2019 general elections than the safety of the lives of Nigerians.

My mum was a Muslim before she converted to Christianity, my dad can eat pounded yam

Nollywood actress Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde’s fourth child and son, Michael, in a new interview with Toluwani Eniola, revealed some things we all don’t know about his mum Omotola.
According to 16-year-old Michael who is an aspiring cinematographer and movie director, his mum was a Muslim before converting to Christianity in her secondary school days.

Here are excerpts from the interview;
Tell us about yourself.
I am 16 years old. I am an aspiring cinematographer and movie director.
Did your mother influence these interests?
I usually accompany my mother to movie locations. That experience attracted me to film-making and movie business in general. Anytime I watch a movie, I analyse it in a different way. Along the line, I discovered that cinematography is the right career path for me to pursue.
I have watched some movies. There is a huge difference between Nigerian and foreign movies, like the ones produced in the US and the UK. The storyline is different and the quality of the production is also different. I want to do something great with the camera. But I am not sure yet if I will shoot movies for Nollywood or be a Nollywood cinematographer. I am learning as much as I can. I might consider acting along the line as well.
What are your recollections growing up with your mother?
I have many sweet memories with my mother. One that I remember clearly is that she has always been a supportive mother and an inspiration to my academic success. I remember the first time I applied to go to secondary school. My father wanted me to begin secondary school education in good time. I applied to a secondary school when I was in primary four. Many pupils applied to the school of my choice but unfortunately, my application was not successful. Owing to a large number of applications, the school raised the cut-off point and my score was below it. I remember that my mother shouted at me but later calmed down. She encouraged me to study harder next time. She told me to be more focused and that next time, I would pass. She encouraged me to study hard, warning me that none of her family members had failed.
Does being her child put a burden on you?
I don’t think there is any burden on me on account of my mother’s feats. I am very careful about what I post on the social media so as not to be perceived wrongly.
How do you feel being the son of a popular actress?
To be quite honest, most of the time, I feel like every other child. My mother is a disciplinarian. She raised her children in a way that gave no room for one to be proud. I am not the child that will enter a place and say, “Hey, my mother is the popular actress, Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde.” I don’t brag about my background. In fact, when I entered secondary school, I did not want anyone to know who my mother is. But they eventually found out.
How did your friends react when they knew who your mother is?
It’s a big institution and many children of prominent Nigerians attend the school. Everyone is special in a way. When my friends saw my surname, some did not actually believe I am the son of Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde. Those who didn’t believe simply justified their claim with the fact that there are many Ekeindes in Nigeria. My mother didn’t come to visit me in school regularly. My father usually accompanied me to school.
One day, my mother came to the school and my friends were surprised to know that she is my mother. She was nearly mobbed by the pupils who took turns to take pictures with her. My mother has always been a friendly person so she was excited to relate with the pupils. She said to them one after the other, “Hi, what’s your name? What class are you?” How are you doing? Even though she didn’t remember as many names as she heard. She visited me in school on special occasions such as my birthdays.
How do you feel when people call your mother omosexy?
I have no problem with that. To be honest, I have not heard people call her that in my presence.
What nickname do you call her at home?
I only call her mummy. I am only allowed to call her mummy at home.
What language does she speak to her children at home?
She speaks Yoruba to us at home. I can’t really speak Yoruba fluently. I remember a week that she didn’t speak English to any one of us. She spoke to us in Yoruba. She wanted us to learn our language.
Do you get preferential treatment from your mother as the last child?
I don’t think there is any preferential treatment for me. Yes, my mother treats me well. I was brought up to respect my siblings and behave well.
Can you share any memorable experience with your mother?
She likes to joke a lot. Whenever she plays her old school songs and I say, “Mummy, why now?,” she would say, “The songs are better than what you hear nowadays.” When she is really enjoying the songs, she begins to dance. She enjoys dancing.
Did she use the cane to correct or discipline you at any point?
She does not use the cane to discipline us but when I was much younger, she caned me on my palm. There was a Saturday she asked me if I had cleaned my room. I could not remember whether I had cleaned my room that morning or not. But I told her it was clean. She said, “okay.” I thought she would quietly go to her room but she went straight to my room to confirm. She was mad at me for not telling her the truth.
Tell us the Nigerian artistes she likes.
She likes Falz and Kiss Daniel. She also likes classical music and old Nigerian songs especially those produced in the 90s. I know some of the songs but I don’t know the name of the singers.
Which of her movies is your father’s favourite?
He likes all her movies. But I enjoyed “The Last Flight to Abuja” the most.
Who is stricter between your father and mother?
I think my mother is stricter. My mother told me the story of her life when she was growing up. She was heavily influenced by her mother who she described as strict. She told us that before she did anything wrong, her mother punished her ahead. My father is softer in some cases.
Does your mother’s name earn you preferential treatment from your teachers?
No, they don’t treat me specially. My teachers are her fans. They always check her Instagram page and tell me what they see there. I remember that they once talked about a picture of my father and mother at the gym.
What biggest gift did your mother give you?
My mother has given me many things but the one I value the most is a camera because it’s valuable to my aspiring career. I have also gone for a film course. In the area of career choice, my mother didn’t force any of us to do anything. My mother and father have always supported our ambitions.
For instance, my first sister, Princess, has always admired the hospitality business and management. She was excited when my mother helped her to secure a placement of two or three weeks at the Eko Hotel and Suites. That exposed her to standards in the hospitality industry. When my brother, Captain E, mentioned that he wanted to do music, my parents supported him. For instance, she supported him with equipment.
She also helps him to call any artiste he wishes to work with. When she called those artistes on his behalf, she usually tells them to work with him only if they are satisfied with the quality of his works. My sister, Meraiah, has always wanted to do fashion and styling. She also uses her connection to link her with other great people in the industry and getting her sewing machines.
Considering your privileged background, do you always get everything you ask from your mother?
No. She taught us to be content with what we have. I once told her to get me a car. She shook her head, laughed and said, “You are not serious.”
What major advice has she given you?
My mother always emphasises the need to be straightforward in life. She dislikes dishonesty and encourages me to be disciplined. My parents advised us that life is not a bed of roses. They encouraged us to be determined and tackle any hardship that comes to our ways.
What are the things people don’t know about your mother?
My mother is a prayer addict. You need to see her Bible. Many people don’t know she is from a Muslim background. She was a Muslim. She converted to Christianity when she was in secondary school or thereabouts. She is also very close to God and attributes her success to Him.
Who are your mother’s role models?
I don’t think she has any role model. The last time I asked her, she told me she is her own role model. But she respects many other people. She has a pastor she looks up to and that is Pastor Tessy.
What is her favourite food?
She likes plantain and fish. She eats lots of vegetables too.
What does your mother tease your father about?
My mother teases my father about his love for pounded yam. My father likes pounded yam so much that he doesn’t mind eating it thrice in a day. He specifically said he would be happy if he gets pounded yam thrice daily. My mother also teases my father for studying almost all the time. She encourages him to have fun. My father too teases her about her love for dancing.
How close is she to her family members?
My mother enjoys a cordial relationship with her siblings. She used to tell us about her parents. She was very close to her parents. Like I said earlier, she learnt discipline from her mother.
Which of your mum’s movies is your favourite and why?
The one I like the most is Beyonce and Rihanna. I like it because it’s funny.
How has she been able to stay off scandals?
My mother is a disciplined person. She does not associate as much as one would expect. She does not really go out. She goes out only if it’s necessary.
Who is her best friend?
Her best friend is Rukky Sanda.
Tell us about her most difficult and fulfilling moments.
I think her most difficult moment was when she lost her father. She lost her father at age 12. Her most fulfilling moment is when my father and all the children are with her.
What advice did you give her on her career?
At a point in her career, I noticed she featured regularly in gloomy movies. I remember I told her, “Mum, can you please stop acting in sad movies?” She responded with mixed reactions.
What is her favourite sport?
She hates football. She gets annoyed anytime I watch football (laughs). She likes squash and lawn tennis. She also likes watching wrestling, badminton and swimming.
She once veered into singing. Did she tell you why she stopped?
I don’t really know why she stopped singing. I think her passion for acting is stronger than singing. I was happy when she declared that she wanted to go into music. I know she can sing. I like the song she produced then. But my brother, Captain E, who is also a music producer, has been encouraging her to continue singing.
How does she relax?
My mother is a workaholic. She always has something important to do. But she likes relaxing on the couch. She visits the spas too. She also relaxes by dancing. She always forced me to dance with her. Dancing with her is not an optional thing (laughs). I think she enjoys relaxing by sending me around. She enjoys sending me around a lot. My mother could be on a couch with her phone just by her side. Yet, she would call me from a distance to give her the phone (laughs).

The lost lady Melania Trump couldn’t cope with marriage to 'unfaithful’ President
User Avatar Forum: Politics

Distraught and broken, Melania Trump told her husband she could not bear the pressure of being First Lady, according to the sensational book that has laid the White House bare. “Is this the future?” the “inconsolable” ex-model reportedly asked mogul Donald after the publication of nude pictures taken early in her career. She then told him she “wouldn’t be able to take it”, according to the explosive work, Fire and Fury: Inside The Trump White House, by author Michael Wolff.
But Trump, who the book claims was “chronically unfaithful”, calmed her down, assuring  her that
what she saw as a nightmare would be over soon.
At that stage he was still just running for the top office and he made his wife “a solemn  guarantee: There was simply no way he would win”.
According to the book, he urged: “Just a little longer . . . it would all be over in November.”
Little wonder that, as was claimed in the book’s first explosive extracts, reported in yesterday’s Sun, the couple were “visibly fighting” at Trump’s  inauguration and Melania spent the ceremony “on the verge of tears”.
The book went on sale yesterday, rushed out four days earlier than planned after extracts left the US agog.
Queues formed outside bookshops, buyers desperate to read the full claims by Wolff, who had fly-on-the-wall access during Trump’s first year in office.
Melania had earlier denied Wolff’s report she wept on election night when it was clear Trump was winning — and that they were “not tears of joy”. But according to the book, Melania, 47,  married to Trump for 12 years, may have other reasons to be far from happy.
The businessman, 71, who has been married three times, has allegedly declared that one of the secrets to a happy marriage is to be much older than your wife — because she won’t care as much if you stray.
Wolff says he believes “the more years between an older man and a younger woman, the less the younger woman took an older man’s cheating personally”.
There is no further evidence about any cheating in the book however, despite what Wolff says.
[Image: fire%2Band%2Bfury%2Binside%2Bthe%2Btrump...Bhouse.jpg]
Earlier extracts claimed the President boasted about bedding his friends’ wives and declared it is what makes “life worth living”. Meanwhile, Trump’s other secret for a happy marriage, he is said to have told friends, is: “Do your own thing.”
The book also claims the pair spend “relatively little time together”  and are the first White House couple since John and Jackie Kennedy in the Sixties to have separate bedrooms.“Often she did not know where he was, or take much notice.”

All States Must Abide By Proposed Minimum Wage – Ngige
User Avatar Forum: Politics
Posted by: Edoman - 01-08-2018, 02:03 PM - No Replies

Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr Chris Ngige has disclosed that all states of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory would be mandated to abide by the new minimum wage being arranged by the Federal Government.
The minister made this known while addressing the media in his native Anambra state on Saturday.
He said that it is wrong for state governors to bicker over matters related to the minimum wage, which the 1999 constitution placed under the exclusive legislative list under the purview of the Federal Government.
Some states have been demanding that they be left alone to negotiate with their workers over the minimum wage, so that they could arrive at a figure they could afford to pay.
However, Ngige said this was against the provision of the Constitution.
The minister disclosed that a tripartite committee set up to fashion out a new minimum wage for Nigerians workers has commented work after its inauguration on December 14, 2017.
He said, “The committee, which had brought out a framework that will guide it, will conclude its work by the third quarter of 2018 and then submit its report to enable the Federal Government Issue a white paper and subsequently transmit the content to the National Assembly.
“That is why the President is not over flogging the issue, but he is monitoring the work of the committee. One thing that is clear is that the states will abide by whatever will be the outcome of the work of the committee because they (governors) have nominees there.
“The Governors’ Forum is represented in the committee and the Federal Government component is represented by five Ministers and the Head of Service of the Federation. It will therefore be against the spirit of the constitution for the states to have their own minimum wage.”
He reiterated that no state would be allowed to pay below the minimum wage.

Fulani Herdsmen: Presidency Has Abandoned Us - Benue Governor, Ortom Cries Out
User Avatar Forum: Politics
Posted by: Edoman - 01-08-2018, 01:34 PM - No Replies

POLITICSNGR

Governor of Benue state, Samuel Ortom has cried out to the public over the recent killings in the state by Fulani Herdsmen, saying that the Presidency has 'abandoned' him.

Ortom pointed fingers at those around the president, saying that they were frustrating his efforts to present a true account of events to the president due to selfish reasons.

Speaking to Vanguard, Ortom further stated that he was losing control of things as the people of his state now take laws into their own hands. He said;

"Let me be frank. The Federal Government has not done enough. When this incidence started with the threat from the president and secretary of Miyetti Allah, Kauta Hore, who addressed a press conference and issued threats that they will do everything possible to frustrate the Benue State Government from implementing the anti-open grazing law, we quickly drew the attention of the Inspector General of Police, the Director-General of the Department of State Services, DSS, and even the office of the National Security Adviser.

The leadership of Miyetti Allah called the law names: that it was draconian and had no place in the 21st century. We saw that as a threat to our existence and in June 2016, we reported to the then acting president (Prof. Yemi Osinbajo) and to our surprise, these people were not apprehended.

When they saw that no one was going to apprehend them, they went further to issue more threats. In October 2016, we reminded the IGP, the DSS and the NSA of the potential violence that we faced in Benue State as a result of the threat from the Miyetti Allah. We, specifically, demanded that the two officers of the Miyetti Allah, the secretary and the president, be arrested, but unfortunately, they were not arrested. I do not know why the Federal Government has abandoned us. If they had acted that time, we would not have gotten to where we are today."

The stressed governor said that due to the continued killings of innocent Benue Indigenes by Fulani Herdsmen, the people have now decided to take laws into their hands.

"You can see that it is getting beyond me. Even when there was protest against the recent killings in Makurdi, and I went there, there was massive resistance. It became violent and it is even God that saved us. I would have been attacked.

When I came into office, there was proliferation of arms and ammunition in the state. I declared an amnesty programme that saw massive retrieval of arms from our youths. I pleaded with them that the way to develop is not by taking the laws into their hands but by obeying the laws. I have resisted the temptation to say that our people should protect themselves because I trusted the president.

I believed that he has the capacity to protect us. But from what is happening, I am sure some people around him are frustrating our communication with him and the actions to be taken. Otherwise, the president I know will not allow this kind of thing to be happening. We have not committed any offence.

We have no regret passing the anti-open grazing law. The law came as a necessity because of the killings in Benue State by the herdsmen. We sought peaceful ways of resolving the matter but we could not.

We tried everything under the sun to ensure that we stopped these killings but it was not possible so we prayed and God gave us the wisdom to enact that law, which gives protection to the farmers and the herdsmen.

“We have not sent cattle rearers away from Benue, we are simply saying there are modern ways of rearing cattle, which is to ranch them. With that, farmers can go their legitimate ways of doing their business and those who are rearing cattle can also continue. I am surprised at the resistance of the herders."

Fulani Herdsmen: Northern Elders Disown Paul Unongo Over Comment On Atiku
User Avatar Forum: Politics
Posted by: Edoman - 01-08-2018, 01:32 PM - No Replies

The Northern Elders Forum has dissociated itself from recent comments on the Fulani Herdsmen killings attributed to its leader, Paul Unongo.

Unongo made headlines last week when he accused former vice president, Atiku Abubakar of being behind the Fulani Herdsmen attacks in Benue state.

Below is a statement signed by the Deputy chairman of the forum, Alhaji Sani Daura;

" The attention of the Northern Elders Forum has been drawn to yet another report of partisan statement made by its leader, Chief Paul Unongo directed against the former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.

The Forum regrets to have to publicly disown yet another controversy by Unongo in this recent times.

While Chief Unongo reserves the right to hold and express personal views against any issue, he however does not have the right to drag the entire Forum into unnecessary controversies at will.

We therefore advice that if Chief Unongo has any grudges against any personality or group, he should vent them in his personal capacity and not use the platform of the Forum.
Again we are not aware that President Muhammadu Buhari has refused to heed our advice on this matter as there was never any such advice contrary to Unongo's claim in the report.

It is on record that since inception six years ago, the Forum has never been this controversial in its approach to issues and never committed itself on anything without finding solid grounds.

But since the transition that followed the death of its founder and pioneer leader, the Danmasanin Kano Alhaji Maitama Sule, it has unnecessarily been dragged from one controversy to another.

Without blaming any person or group, the Northern Elders Forum hereby condemns the unnecessary killings in Kaduna, Plateau, Benue and Kogi states and indeed other parts of the north and the country generally.

We call on government to urgently act against such wanton lawlessness by identifying the perpetrators and dealing with them in the same way other disturbances in the Northeast and other parts of the country are being dealt with."

Dangote Sugar Grows 227% To Emerge 2017 Best Performing Stock

DANGOTE SUGAR GROWS 227% TO EMERGE 2017 BEST PERFORMING STOCK
Source: http://www.eyesoflagos.com/2018/01/dango...7.html?m=1

In the outgone year 2017, the best performing stock on the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) was Dangote Sugar Refinery Plc. Last year was a very good one for the local bourse and a number of equities performed relatively well at the market. For the first time in three years, the Nigerian stocks market closed the year in the positive territory, as the NSE All-Share Index (ASI) returned 42.30 percent year-on-year. Consequently, market capitalisation advanced significantly to close at N13.61 trillion in contrast to N9.25 trillion as at the end of 2016. Eyes Of Lagos gathered that, A report by CNN, a global news platform, revealed that the Nigerian stock market was the third best performing market in the world in 2017, doing better than the United States market. Performance across sectors was broadly impressive, with 65 stocks posting price appreciation, while 32 stocks recorded price declines. Dangote Sugar Refinery recorded highest capital appreciation as it closed the year at N20, from N6.11 it opened, leaving its shareholders 227.33 per cent better. Another stock that did well was International Breweries Plc, which recorded a 194.59 percent growth, Fidelity Bank Plc increased by 192.86 percent in 2017, Fidson Healthcare Plc went up by 189.06 percent, while Dangote Flour Plc advanced by 185.88 percent last year. The company’s share price close the year higher ahead of analysts’ projection. Analysts at Cordros Capital Limited, in November projected a target price (TP) of N19.03 at full year 2017, while analysts at Cardinal Stone Finance, another Lagos based investment house, put their TP for Dangote Sugar at N16.29. But both projections were beaten by huge margins with the stock closing the year at N20. However, analysts at both institutions as well as others had given a bullish perspective to the nine-month 2017 financial results and other business facts of the sugar giant, a major factor in stimulating the ensuing bullish position on the stock by investors in the period. Dangote Sugar in third quarter financial results for the period ended September 30, 2017 reported impressive earnings of N 26.5 billion, which is already 1.8 times higher than N10.1 billion reported in full year of 2016. Reflecting on this performance, analysts at CardinalStone had stated “given this run rate, we believe the company is on track to deliver its strongest earnings in full year 2017.” Focusing on the third quarter, despite a 0.95 per cent year-on-year (YoY) decline in revenue, earnings rose by 244.3 percent YoY as a result of a faster decline in cost of sales. This largely steered the 2,153 bases points (bps) YoY increase in third quarter 2017 gross margin. Likewise, on a quarterly basis, gross margin expanded albeit modestly by 68bps, also driven by lower production costs. Industry commentators noted that Dangote Sugar continues to benefit from easier accessibility to foreign exchange (for its imported inputs), relatively improved gas supply as well as currently soft raw sugar prices in international markets. It would be recalled that on the 2016 full year earnings call, management of Dangote Sugar said it plans to achieve 20 per cent gross margin in 2017 full year versus 13.5 per cent in 2016 full year, assuming forex is purchased at a relatively lower average rate and higher output is realised from Savannah where margins are higher. Last week, analysts at Cordros Capital had placed Hold on Dangote shares, meaning investors should hold on their shares, having potentials to grow higher. According to them, the shares of Dangote Sugar appreciated by 1.83 per cent toN20.00. Dangote Sugar trades at forward Price Earning (PE) of 6.5x, lower than its five-year historical average of 7.5x. They noted that Dangote Q3, 2017 result, showing revenue declined one per cent year-on-year, while Earnings Before Interest Tax Depreciation and Amortization (EBITDA) and profit after tax grew strongly by 226 per cent and 244 per cent year-on-year, respectively. According to Cordros Capital, continued stronger gross margin and tamed operating expenditure (Opex), primarily, in addition to higher investment income, was the lever for earnings growth. The decline in revenue, was driven by lower sales volume, which more than offset the relatively higher price. Compared to 2016, sales volume has closed lower in all three quarters in 2017 in response to the sharp increase in price. “The management reduced the per bag price of sugar by N1, 000, effective in April, to help support sales. Despite cuts to sales estimates, we raise Dangote Sugar’s 2017 full year EBITDA and net profit by 50 per cent each, and for 2018 and 2019 full year by 55 per cent and 56 per cent respectively. The upward revision follows better margin outlook on declining per tonne production cost, which we expect will offset price cuts. “Our revised estimates translate to EBITDA and net profit growth of 158 per cent and155 per cent respectively in 2017 full year and three per cent and five per cent average growth in 2018 to 2019 full year. “We cut revenue estimates for 2017 to 2019 full year by 10 per cent average, on downwardly revised volume and selling price estimates Sales volume has been hit by weakened demand and more recently, by both the influx of smuggled sugar and the terrible condition of the road to the Apapa factory” the analyst firm said. They also foresaw better performance of the sector following better energy efficiency and stronger exchange rate, stable outlook of global raw sugar prices and positive mix from growing contribution of higher margin Savannah. A further financial analysis and forecast by CardinalStone gives more investor information on positioning in the sugar giant’s stock in the short-to-medium term. The analysts stated, “Dangote Sugar continues to carry a modest debt balance sheet thus, in the absence of finance cost pressures as well as sustained efforts to contain operating expenses, we expect the benefits of expanded gross margin to filter through to earnings, and project full year 2017 EPS (earnings per share) at N3.14, representing a 161.7 per cent increase over full year 2016. “In the last three years, Dangote Sugar has on average paid 48 per cent of its earnings as dividend. Given this, we estimate a final dividend of N1.00, bringing our estimated total dividend to N1.50. The company paid an interim dividend of 50 kobo following the release of its first half 2017, earnings. In 2018, they expect the impact of lower production costs to reinforce earnings on the back of sustained foreign exchange (FX) stability, strengthened by improved crude oil output and higher crude oil price and favourable raw sugar prices, which is expected to remain lower in the near term on improved harvest in Brazil and India

Coutinho calls £142m move to Barcelona from Liverpool ‘a dream’

Philippe Coutinho has described his move from Liverpool to Barcelona as a “dream”.

The finishing touches have been put on the transfer, which could be worth up to £142m, and he will be paraded at the Camp Nou on Monday. The 25-year-old Brazil international, who watched his new side’s 3-0 win over Levante on Sunday, will perform a ceremonial signing of his contract at 11.30am GMT before a press conference.

“I’m very happy, very happy. I have always said that it is a dream that I am living and I am very happy to be here,” Coutinho told Barça TV. “To be able to play, win titles, make the fans happy … always play with joy. It is incredible to know that I am going to live with idols; players with a lot of history.
“Footballers like Leo Messi, Luis Suárez, [Andrés] Iniesta, [Gerard] Piqué, [Sergio] Busquets. I am very happy to be able to live together, to be able to learn from them and be able to win together.”
Having earlier been presented at a photocall, Coutinho posted a short video message on the Barcelona Twitter feed. He said: “Hi Barça fans. I am already here, it is a dream come true, and I hope to see you tomorrow.”
Coutinho is joining a team who are nine points clear at the top of La Liga and seemingly on the way to another title. Barcelona’s manager, Ernesto Valverde, is confident the playmaker, who joined Liverpool from Internazionale for £8.5m in January 2013, will prove to be a valuable addition to his star-studded squad.
“I think he can bring us a lot of things,” he said. “Coutinho scores goals, assists, he can play both inside and outside. I have seen him play in many positions both for Liverpool and in his national team.
“After taking a long break, he is already with us, we hope he will help us and we will wait to see him train for at least one day to assess his condition.”

RHAPSODY OF REALITIES

MONDAY, 8TH JANUARY.

Pastor Chris

TOPIC ✨ AGREE WITH THE WORD✨

That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation (Romans 10:9-10).

Confession in our opening text means speaking the same thing in consent. If God has said something, and you say something that’s in consonance with what He has said, that’s confession. For example, the Word says the Lord is with you always until the end of the age. Therefore, never say, “O God, be with me”; to speak like that is to be in conflict with God’s Word. You ought to say, “Lord, I thank you for you’re with me always.”

The Bible says, “Can two walk together, except they be agreed?” (Amos 3:3). The way to walk in agreement with God is to do His Word or act in line with the Word; that’s where the blessing is: “But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed” (James 1:25).

Our opening text says, “…if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.” Anyone who, in response to that, declares the Lordship of Jesus, believing that God raised Him from the dead, is saved and will never go to hell. However, if after making that declaration someone goes ahead to say, “I don’t know whether I’m saved or not,” they repudiate their salvation.

Never speak against the Word. Don’t invalidate your faith by speaking words that conflict with the will of God for you. The way to an ever vibrant, ever glorious and successful life is talking the Word only, regardless of circumstances. There’re not enough problems in the world to hinder your progress if you’d speak and live in consonance with the Word.

PRAYER
I live and walk in health, prosperity, and in all the benefits of salvation in Christ. The Name of Jesus is named upon me, and I live triumphantly, from glory to glory, heaping success upon success, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.

FURTHER STUDY: 2 Corinthians 4:13 We having the same spirit of faith, according as it is written, I believed, and therefore have I spoken; we also believe, and therefore speak;

Hebrews 13:5-6 [Let your] conversation [be] without covetousness; [and be] content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee. 6 So that we may boldly say, The Lord [is] my helper, and I will not fear what man shall do unto me.

Mark: EFCC Uncovers ‘strange’ Payment Of N2.9b To 54 Senators
User Avatar Forum: Politics

Anti-Magu senators may send 15-man team to Buhari

A curious payment of N2, 922, 236.310 to 54 Senators during the tenure of Chief David Mark as Senate President is now engaging the attention of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Each of the Senators is believed to have received N45, 509, 090.

It is one of the issues Senator Mark is expected to throw light on during his ongoing interactive session with the agency, The Nation learned authoritatively yesterday.

Five of the 54 Senators that benefitted from the N2.9billion largesse are still members of the Green chambers of the National Assembly.

Among them is a principal officer of the Senate.

While investigators suspect that the money may have been sourced from the accounts of the National Assembly, citizen Ifeanyichukwu Obazi-Nweze, in a petition, claimed that it was trapped cash of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The discovery of the cash disbursement by EFCC is believed to have sparked the latest move by some Senators to block the re-nomination of Mr. Ibrahim Magu for confirmation as substantive Chairman of EFCC.

The lawmakers are said to have drawn the battle line with him.

Sources said yesterday that they planned to send a 15-man secret delegation to Buhari to protest against Magu and demand his removal.

Investigation by The Nation showed that the ex-Senate President and some of the beneficiaries of the largesse will have to explain who authorized UBA to raise five manager cheques in favour of the defunct Bank PHB and GTB.

The manager cheques were listed as MC No. 03816905 (N2,275,454,500)- Bank PHB; MC 03816915 (N133,400,000)-Bank PHB; MC No. 03816909(N103, 800,000)-Bank PHB; and MC No. 03816918(N364,072.720)-GTB.

Investigation showed that each of the 50 beneficiary Senators collected N45, 509, 090 amounting to N2,275,454,500.

A document, obtained by our correspondent, reads in part: “The above manager cheque number 03816905 with a value of N2,275,454,500 was deposited into the accounts of 50 Senators as beneficiaries.

“Manager Cheque No. 0386915 of the sum of N133, 400,000 and MC No. 03816909 of the sum of N103, 800,000 have four beneficiaries as follows: N133, 400,000; N51,900,000; N86, 250,000 and N51,900,000.

“However, it is important to note that the beneficiaries of Manager Cheque(MC) No. 03816918 of N364, 072,720 to GTB and MC No. 3816912 of N45, 509, 090 to WEMA Bank are yet to be ascertained. All efforts are being made to uncover the beneficiaries.”

A highly placed source said: “From what detectives have done, we are investigating alleged conspiracy, abuse of office and misappropriation of public funds of N2, 922, 236, 310 when Sen. David Mark was the President of the Senate.”

The source said EFCC commenced its investigation into the matter in 2015 following petitions by National Assembly workers and one Ifeanyichukwu Obazi-Nweze of Abogu Financial Company Limited who claimed that the money was trapped cash of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

“The probe is not targeted at David Mark or the Senate or the nation’s 109 Senators,” the source said.

“Yet, no anti-graft agency will gloss over N2.9billion shared by 54 Senators in one day.

“It is a case which preceded the eighth Senate but as we probe on a daily basis, we dig up more facts on how funds were siphoned from the coffers of the National Assembly into private accounts.

“Contrary to the claim that the cash amounted to trapped funds of PDP, our team succeeded in tracing the source of the money to the account of the Senate and how it was deposited or transferred to the accounts of the affected Senators.

“We are looking at the motives behind the illegal withdrawal of the money and depositing of same to the accounts of the 54 Senators. We are also interested in the recovery of the public funds.”

Detectives are expected to recover and analyze all vouchers and other relevant documents from the National Assembly with a view to ascertaining the purpose of raising the five manager cheques and uncover any likely conspiracy and diversion of the funds.

“The investigating team has also been directed to invite the officials of the Finance Department of the National Assembly and signatories to the accounts to shed light on the purpose for which the Manager Cheques were raised to determine their roles in the transactions.”

Responding to a question, the source added: “The EFCC has not received the required cooperation from the staff of the National Assembly, especially members of the management.

“But we will explore ways of collaborating with these management staff to get to the roots of this fraud.”

On the link between the N2.9billion and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the source said: “We have not established that it was a trapped cash of the opposition party. Rather, the cash in question came from one of the accounts of the National Assembly.

It was gathered that some of the affected Senators had launched desperate moves to halt the investigation.

A reliable source said: “Some of the 54 Senators have drawn the battle line with the acting Chairman of EFCC, Mr. Ibrahim Magu and have vowed to unseat him. They know they collected illegal money and may have to refund same.

“Already, they have raised a 15-man team to have audience with President Muhammadu Buhari on why Magu must be removed for looking into N2.9billion fraud. They are afraid of their shadows because the ongoing investigation is leading to more stunning discoveries.

“They believe they can only have their way if Magu is eased out of EFCC.”

2019: Nigerians say no to Buhari’s re-election bid …cite herdsmen killings, others as reasons

Quote:By TOLUWANI ENIOLA

A poll conducted by SUNDAY PUNCH has revealed that many Nigerians will not vote for President Muhammadu Buhari if he decides to seek re - election in 2019.

The poll with the title , “ Will you vote for Buhari in 2019 ?” was conducted on The PUNCH website , www.punchng.com.

It gauged the opinions of Nigerians using three options for participants .

Those who want to vote again for the President in 2019 answered by clicking ‘ YES ’ while those with a contrary opinion clicked the ‘ NO ’ button . The last option was for those who were indifferent to Buhari ’ s choice .

The poll went live on Thursday , 5.48pm .
As of 11pm on Saturday , out of the 9,524 participants who took part in the poll, 58 percent (5,519 respondents) said they would not vote for Buhari in 2019.

Up to 3,588 people , amounting to 38 percent , said ‘ YES ’ to the poll while four per cent (417 votes ) were indifferent to Buhari ’ s 2019 re - election bid .

The poll, which has been read over 10, 000 times, confirmed that many Nigerians are not happy with the performance of the President.

Although Buhari has not officially declared his intention ahead of 2019, there are strong indications that he will seek a second term .

Confirming the speculation that Buhari might seek a second term in office , the Minister of Communications, Adebayo Shittu , had last week said although the President had not made up his mind on the 2019 presidential election , he must seek re - election because he had “done well so far. ”

Shittu stated this in an interview with State House correspondents shortly after a meeting he had with Buhari at the Presidential Villa , Abuja.

Speaking specifically on whether the President will contest , Shittu said , “It goes without saying .

I mean if you have a child who goes to primary school and he does well , he proceeds to secondary school and he does well , and you keep asking if he will be going to university . It goes without saying .

“ By the grace of God , we , his (Buhari ’ s ) ardent supporters , who appreciate his worth on behalf of millions of Nigerians , would urge him to recontest . I know he has not made up his mind but I can say that some of us can assist him in making up his mind . ”

Several chieftains of the All Progressives Congress , including Governor Nasir el -Rufai of Kaduna State, have also expressed their support for the President ’ s re - election .

On Wednesday, Buhari was reported to have reappointed the Minister of Transportation , Mr. Rotimi Amaechi , as the Director General of his 2019 election campaign .

Buhari himself, twice last year , hinted that he would seek re -election in 2019 . He gave the hint in Cote d’ Ivoire during a summit on counter - terrorism and also during his recent visit to Kano State.

On Saturday , many organisations , including the Arewa Youth Forum, comprising the northern youths ; the Campaign for Democracy ; and the Youth Wing of the Christian Association of Nigeria , kicked against President Muhammadu Buhari ’ s re - election bid .

The groups , in separate interviews with Saturday PUNCH, hinged their rejection of Buhari ’ s second- term bid on the incessant killings in the country, particularly by Fulani herdsmen .

They said the clamour for a second term, amidst attacks by herdsmen and fuel scarcity in the country, was a demonstration of the insensitivity of the President and his aides to the plight of Nigerians.

It will be recalled that last week , a Catholic priest and Spiritual Director of the Adoration Ministries , Enugu , Rev. Fr . Ejike Mbaka , warned President Buhari that Nigerians will ‘ change ’ him in 2019 if he does not change his style of leadership.

The priest advised Buhari against seeking a second term , and warned that the President risks being ‘ blown away shamefully ’ by the wind of change , which he set off when he defeated former President Goodluck Jonathan in 2015.

Mbaka , who had been one of Buhari ’ s most vocal supporters , spoke during a special New Year ’ s Eve service at the Adoration Ground, in Emene , Enugu .

He had said , “Mr. President , wake up , sit up . God said you are toying with the privilege given to you . There is no time . Nigerians are dying in your hands . People are not happy with your system.

“ Change or you will be changed – God said that Buhari is in trouble. Buhari is hypnotised . Buhari is in a horrible bondage . Buhari ’ s mantra has been cannibalised . ”

The results of the PUNCH poll, which ran on The PUNCH website for three days , indicated that many Nigerians no longer prefer Buhari.

Those who opposed the President ’ s alleged re - election bid in the poll justified their decision with the state of the economy , poor power supply, in security , especially the herdsmen attacks which has led to loss of lives , alleged lopsidedness in the anti -corruption war and appointments, as well as many other indices of national development .

PUNCH readers took turns in sharing their opinions . A reader , identified as Ebony Dollars , stated that Buhari had lost public sympathy and, therefore , should not run for the 2019 election.

The respondent , who said he would not vote for the President in 2019 , expressed disapproval with the way the Buhari - led Federal Government had handled the herdsmen attacks in different parts of the country.

He said , “ He should not contest (election ) in 2019 . If Buhari does not declare the Miyetti Allah group as a terrorist group and arrest their leaders for prosecution , he should forget 2019.

If the President does not have the guts to query the Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami; and the Minister of Interior , Abdulrahman Dambazau , and reshuffle his cabinet , he should forget 2019.

“ It is restructuring that we need . The 2019 election cannot solve the problem . Regional autonomy is what we need and that is what the public is clamouring for right now . Can you imagine his (Buhari ’ s ) attitude towards the killing of innocent people by the herdsmen ? He is too sick to be proactive and address issues of national concerns . ”

Another PUNCH reader , Oghale Ralph, asked why the President was considering a re - election despite the state of the country.

“ After everything , Buhari still has the mind to say he wants to contest again . People are wicked, ” he wrote in the comment section of the poll.

Also responding to the poll, Tony Ezeifedi reviewed the state of the country ’ s economy and scored Buhari low, adding that he would not vote for him if he decides to contest in 2019 .

Citing millions of job losses in Nigeria between 2016 and 2017 as reported by the National Bureau of Statistics, Ezeifidi described the Buhari government as the worst in the country’ s history.

“ This is the worst performance by any ruler in Nigeria since 1914 , ” he said .

Another PUNCH reader , identified simply as Izonkeme , said the failure of the APC- led Federal Government to tackle the menace of herdsmen killings was unacceptable .

Izonkeme described Buhari as a “ disaster , ” adding that he would lose if he decides to contest the poll.

He wrote, “ Buhari has destroyed Nigeria and he took us 50 years backwards within two years. Do you know how many lives the Fulani have taken since Buhari got into office yet he has not made any condemnation of their grotesque farming activities ? As far as the majority of Nigerians are concerned , PMB is a disaster to Nigeria . ”

Also responding to the poll, a PUNCH reader identified as Langa Langa wrote, “ Vote Buhari again in 2019 ? I can ’ t do that even if I’ ve gone insane . God forbid !”

Commenting with the pseudonym, Bluethroat 101 , another respondent listed five reasons why he won ’ t vote for Buhari .

He said he was not satisfied with the way Buhari had handled national security , the anti - corruption war , economy and infrastructure.

He drew an analogy between the way the President treated the herdsmen crisis and the way he reacted to the Biafran agitation by the Indigenous People of Biafra , adding that the president was biased .

He wrote , “ I was among those who praised Buhari for flushing out IPOB because I thought he would also use similar measures to end the Fulani herdsmen killings.

Buhari is also biased with this anti - corruption campaign . If not for the Nigerian Senate , we won ’ t have seen people like the former Secretary to the Government of the Federation , Babachir Lawal , face partial justice.

“ I call it partial justice because Lawal is still walking freely . The infrastructure situation in the country is still very poor . There is no stable power supply and people rarely have access to water.

The economy is in bad shape because of his bad policies and measures . Look at how he implemented the Treasury Single Account Policy . Look at the number of jobs that were lost in banks . May God deliver us from this mess . ”

Another respondent , identified as Ify simply wrote, “No , I won ’ t vote for Buhari . He lacks a clue to do anything well. He is so archaic to be a leader in this computer age . He is disconnected from his subjects and specialises in divide - and-rule (tactics) . He is the President of the North, not the President of Nigeria. ”

While many openly condemned the President and his policies, others praised Buhari , saying they would be proud to vote for him in 2019.

Many ardent supporters of the President took turns to share their reasons for preferring him above others for a second term in 2019.

One of them , identified as El Patron, attributed Nigeria ’ s woes to the Peoples Democratic Party ’ s tenure , arguing that though Buhari had disappointed some people , he remains the best candidate in 2019 .

Patron wrote, “I hate PDP so much . They are the cause of 99 per cent of our problems since we commenced democracy . This (poll) is a tough question ; I will either stay away in 2019 or hold my breath and vote Buhari . Although he has disappointed many , he has some good sides . ”

A similar view was expressed by another Buhari supporter , Leke , who wrote, “ I will vote him anytime, any day. ”

Another commentator, Ibrahim Dauda , claimed that Buhari ’ s outing in the PUNCH poll was low but would be different in 2019 when the real election would be conducted .

Dauda said , “ Buhari will win with more votes in 36 states of Nigeria . Where are the credible candidates without a political party ? The so - called credible ones are not in politics ; the credible ones in our political parties are waiting for their turn .

“ We shouldn ’ t judge Buhari until after his second term in office . APC and Buhari will rule for 16 solid years before we can complain .

Where are the party and the people to contest against him ? Is it the PDP or which party ? PDP is dead and can ’ t win any national election in this country again , even in the South - South and South - East. ”

According to Alhassan Adamu , another PUNCH reader who reacted to the poll, there is no candidate in Nigeria that is as credible as Buhari .
Responding to the poll, he said , “ Yes , I will vote PMB again . There is no credible candidate other than him . The North will finish eight years and return power to the South - West . ”

Another supporter of Buhari , Femi , wrote, “Victory is sure , where are the opponents ? Can somebody mention just one? Sai Baba . ”

Olawale Jacob Rasheed said he would vote for Buhari because “ I know when a new party comes into power, the first tenure is not always easy because this is Africa . I will give him a second chance. ”

Yaqub Muktar wrote , “Yes ! I am 100 per cent in support of Buhari , I voted for him in 2015 and by God ’ s grace , I will be ready to do the same thing in 2019 . ”

RHAPSODY OF REALITIES DAILY DEVOTIONAL (JANUARY PDF => http://bit.ly/2iK6qRp)*

*THE LORDSHIP OF LOVE .*

Sunday, January 7th .
Pastor Chris

_*The word which God sent unto the children of Israel, preaching peace by Jesus Christ: (he is Lord of allSmile (Acts 10:36).*_

When you declared Jesus Christ as Lord of your life, He became your Master. Lord means master, possessor or owner. Some Christians don’t seem to realize this; they think Jesus is there to answer their prayers and give them whatever they want. They haven’t known Him as Lord. He being the Lord of your life means you exist for Him; He’s the One in charge of your life.

The beautiful thing about it is that He’s not a tyrant; so, He doesn’t try to run your life or infringe on your will. He’s Lord over you in love. The Lordship of Jesus Christ is the Lordship of love. It means submitting yourself to love; the loving power of God. Remember, He’s love. So, when Jesus became the Lord of your life, “Love” became the Lord of your life.

There’s no selfishness about Jesus; He’s God’s love personified and expressed to man. He’s the living love of God manifested to us. You don’t love yourself as much as “Love” loves you; He’s more ambitious for your success than you could ever be for yourself. When this becomes your consciousness, all your struggles will be over.

Jesus loves you more than you could ever imagine. He’s more willing and concerned for your happiness, peace, and joy, than you could ever be for yourself. He knows all the gifts that you want in your life and every good thing you want for yourself, and He desires even more for you. Serve Him with all your heart. Trust Him with your life. Not only does He know everything about you, He knows everything about your future. Without Him, there’s no future for you.

Put yourself into His guiding arms and let Him lead you. Submit to the supremacy of His will, counsel and wisdom, for He loves you with an everlasting love. Hallelujah!.

*PRAYER*

*Dear Father, I thank you for the Lordship of Jesus over my life; the lordship of His love. I cast myself into your loving arms, trusting you to lead and guide me in your perfect will for my life. I walk the path of success and victory only, because Jesus is Lord of my life, my mind, body, finances and all that concerns me; He’s my master, lover, and friend. Glory to His Name forever.*

CAN Declares Support For Fr Mbaka’s Prophecy On Buhari, Dankwambo.
User Avatar Forum: Politics
Posted by: Edoman - 01-07-2018, 12:09 PM - No Replies

Quote:The Christian community in Gombe State has supported 2018 prophecy of fiery Enugu priest, Reverend Father Ejike Mbaka of the Adoration Ministry that Buhari should not re-contest in 2019.

The state chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Reverend Ibrahim Jodi, while on a courtesy visit at the Gombe Government House, on Saturday, lambasted one Mohammed Jibrin Barde for denouncing Mbaka’s prediction on Dankwambo.

Jodi said as believers in the Word, they have accepted and rejoiced with Mbaka’s prediction over Governor Ibrahim Hassan Dankwambo.

“God revealed His message for the federal government to Reverend Mbaka that incumbent President Muhammadu Buhari would not be re-elected in 2019 and that you (Dankwambo) are better suited to take over from him.

“Now we are reading this report of one Mohammed Jibrin Barde who has the effrontery to denounce the message of God as conveyed by the pastor, someone that is neither a cleric or knows the value of the anointed man of God.

“We will pray earnestly against people like Barde who do not mean well for Gombe State,” he said.

Recall that Rev Fr. Mbaka in his new year message warned President Muhammadu Buhari’s not to contemplate seeking for a second tenure in 2019.

He consequently endorsed Dankwambo for President in 2019.

The prophecy read in part, “If Mr. President, Buhari will not continue, if you go to Gombe, it was a rural state, the present Governor there, Ibrahim Hassan, has turned that place into almost an ultra modern city and that man was a former Accountant General of the country. If you go to Gombe, you won’t know Gombe again; why can’t such a person come out; I don’t know the party he is in; and he is still a young man; in his early 50s, whether in PDP or APC, I don’t know but whoever is doing that kind of magic in Gombe can handle Nigeria. A man who did PhD in Accountancy, chartered in marketing, chartered in Accountancy, a lot of things, a guru, we need somebody with such aura.

“And the Gombe people will tell you, he does not discriminate between Muslims and Christians, he is shielding even Christians there. Some pastors he gave them land, gave land for churches. I am not campaigning for him, but I am talking about somebody who can lead us forward, somebody with vision, with agenda, to change Nigeria is not difficult; wherever such a person is, let his party make him available for Nigerians to see it.

No Sane Person Will Vote For You – Ohaneze Tells Buhari

The Ohaneze Ndigbo, the leading Igbo social-political group, has told President Muhammadu Buhari that no sane person will vote for him come 2019 Presidential election.
Speaking with Punch, the National Publicity Secretary of Ohanaeze, Prince Uche Achi-Okpaga, pointed out that Buhari’s failure to check the menace of the herdsmen would affect his chances for re-election in 2019.
Achi- Okpaga said that “no sane person would vote for a government that was not able to secure the lives of its citizens.”
He noted that it was strange that the country’s security agencies, which he described the “best in Africa”, had been unable to deal with the herdsmen.
His words, “The spate of blatant and inconceivable killings of helpless Nigerians by the Fulani herdsmen have been so alarming and uncontrollable. I have no doubt that the studied silence of the Federal Government is deliberate.
“No sane person will risk to vote for a government that has conspicuously displayed irresponsibility to the security of her citizens.
“Apart from the killings at Nsukka and Awgu (Enugu State), the people of Benue, in general, have been severally and severely killed in tens and hundreds without the Commander – in – Chief of the Armed Forces , making a national broadcast or giving a specific instruction on the matter even when the treasury of Nigeria was depleted to give him adequate medical attention to save his own life.”

Barcelona have signed Liverpool star Philippe Coutinho in a club-record transfer.

Mirror Football understands that the Reds have settled on an agreement for the Brazilian for an initial fee of €120million (£106.4m), with a further €40m (£35.5m) in add-ons.

It is the second-most expensive transfer of all-time, trailing the £198million PSG paid Barcelona for Neymar last summer - and it is the most money ever received by an English club.

Coutinho will pen a five-year deal, with the Catalan giants likely to give him an extension in the summer to ensure his deal does not run out mid-season.

He was spotted in London on Saturday preparing to jet to Barcelona and link up with his new club.
