They say there's a light at the end of the tunnel,
A light that helps you stray away from the dark.
I've come to a crossroad in my life,
Each road will have that same light.

They say there's a light at the end of the tunnel,
If you ask me, the lights are all the same.
There's no turning back once you've seen the light,
That's the light that shows you're leaving.

They say there's a light at the end of the tunnel,
I've come to realize the light doesn't help.
Some will say the light leads,
I would say the light is merely an illusion.

They say there's a light at the end of the tunnel,
I say there's a light at the beginning of the tunnel.
If you turn back before you go too far you'd see it,
That light at the beginning of the tunnel is there.

They say there's a light at the end of the tunnel,
If you ask me, I couldn't tell you for sure.
This light at the end of the tunnel has never been seen,
The light at the beginning has.

They say there's a light at the end of the tunnel,
I wish they would be more clear.
As I approach the end of my tunnel,
I'm unsure of the light.

They say there's a light at the end of the tunnel,
I've come to realize the light doesn't help.
The light at the end of my tunnel is dim,
I'm here alone wondering.

They say there's a light at the end of the tunnel,
I await the day of my light at the end of that very tunnel.

Lalasticlala come see my hero is gone..

How To Start Quail Farming In Nigeria
User Avatar Forum: Agriculture/Food Processing
Posted by: Pretty Bird - 12-18-2017, 02:37 PM - No Replies

Quail farming is one of the most profitable business in the poultry wing of the agricultural sector. The business has a high return on investment withing a short period of time. This is a business which I am planning to start in few weeks time.
Quails are reared for their flesh and eggs, but the greater part of the profit is in the eggs produced. With good farm practice, a quail is capable of laying an egg daily. The average price of a quail egg is twenty naira (N20), and it sells quickly due to high demand.
Fertile-quail egg is considered to be much more nutritional than chicken egg and medical practitioners do recommend it for the treatment of many ailments such as high blood pressure, gastric ulcer, liver problems, asthma, anaemia, etc. No wonder it is said to be a super food. You can produce fertile quail eggs in your farm by mixing your quails in a male to female ratio of 1:5 ( 1 male, 5 females).
Quail farming is a business which is forecasted to soon take over chicken-poultry business in Nigeria. This is as a result of the high rate of returns and low cost of investment alongside little active labour (or labour cost) in rearing them compared to chicken farming.
Alongside an obligatory regular administration of drugs, a mature chicken consumes an average of 150grams of food daily, while a mature quail only consumes between 20 to 25grams of food per day plus little or no drugs.
Quail egg has an average market price of N20 which is very close to that of chicken. Quails take about five to six weeks to mature to point of lay compared to chicken that takes twenty to twenty four
weeks.

With a start-up capital of N200,000 and good marketing strategy, you can earn an average of N100,000 monthly. Follow me as I present the analysis to you below:
1. 250 matured female quails at N500 each = N125,000
2. 50 matured male quails at N300 each = N15,000
3. Housing » 2step 3feet width and four feet length = N25,000
4. Feeders/drinkers = N4000
5. Feeds = 9 (25kg) bags per month = N22,500
6. Miscellaneous = N8,500
Total = N200,000.
Note:
1. 1 to 5 are fixed capitals.
2. Cost of quails, cage, feeders/drinkers might vary slightly in your area. I am using Kaduna state as a reference point.
Average selling price per egg = N20. 250 female quails can lay 225 or more eggs daily, which implies 6750 eggs monthly. 6750eggs x N20 = N135,000 monthly.
It should be noted that quails lay eggs for a minimum of eighteen months ( one and a half year). According to my own plan, I should be able to expand my farm to  1000 quails in less than two years.
TIPS:
1. Make sure the cage or room is secured from cats, snakes, rats and thieves
2. The cage or room should be well ventilated
3. Clean the cage or room regularly. This is because a dirty
environment leads to reduced egg production or even disease outbreak

4. Give your quails clean water. Water should always be available as
quails drink much water

5. Give your quails good quality food.
The demand for fertile quail eggs is high. A proper marketing strategy is what you need to sell your eggs quickly. You can start by informing friends and families of your products and asking them to tell others.
Place posters around your area carrying information about the nutritional and health benefits of quail eggs, not forgetting to chip in your contact details. You can also do same by printing and distributing leaflets.
Wishing you the best in your quail farm business.

Why Most Uneducated People Are More Successful in Business

By Johnspeak Uwangue (Motivational Speaker, Talent Manager and Coach)

You will be amazed at the number of Uneducated successful business men and women compared to the huge number of educated men and women who are struggling to build a little business like selling doughnuts or cake or event decoration.

Not everyone was or will be privileged to go through the four walls of a university but whether you are educated or not is not a guarantee that you will succeed in business. I know some people will say that education isn't all about going to the University, polytechnic or college of education, yes, but there are so many people who can't read or write properly but are doing well in business. Now, let me share with you just five reasons why most Uneducated business men and women are more successful than their educated Counterparts.

- They Strive More To Be Relevant

It's a well known fact that we live in a society where people believe that if you don't go to school you are are loser. As such, those not privileged to go to school who have ended up in business are striving more to succeed. The truth is, most educated people are too relaxed. They always feel that things should work for them easily because they have a first degree, master degree or a doctorate or PhD. While their Uneducated Counterparts are putting in more efforts in making sure that the society doesn't mock them, they are busy waiting for things to happen on their own terms.

- They Don't Want To Change The World

An average educated person's business idea is always about changing the world and making it better. While an uneducated business person is thinking of how to sell what people need and make profit from it, an educated business person is thinking of how to solve the world's problem. Truth be told, if we solve a problem today another one will still emerge tomorrow. So, stop thinking of how to solve problems and start thinking of how to make profit because business is all about making profit. I know some over educated folks here will say that you must solve problems before you can make profit, that's a lie because most rich people oftentimes buy what they don't need and do not feel remorseful about it because they have the money. It's just your ability to convince them to buy what you sell even if they need it or not.

- They Don't Over Analyze

Before most educated people act they always like to look at the four sides of the angle. They look at the advantages and disadvantages, read different theories on the issue and consult all types of books to back them up. In short, they over analyze and over think themselves out of opportunities. Most Uneducated people don't go through those stress and that's why they are always quicker to take hold of opportunities.

- They Are Street Smart

It's one thing to be book smart and another to be street smart. People who will buy your products or services are not in the book but on they streets. They are not robots or theories but are humans with needs. We should read books, attend seminars and conferences but we should sometimes put the books aside and see what's happening in the street. Most Uneducated business people spent most of their lives in the street where they've learnt how to survive irrespective of the environment and circumstances.

- They Easily Cry For Help

While most Uneducated Business owners are always quick to employ the services of educated professionals to work for them in order to achieve more, their educated Counterparts are busy accumulating more responsibilities to themselves in order to cut down cost. Most graduate business people always feel proud to attend some seminars, conferences or even read some books. They always feel they are intelligent and are graduates like you and as such you have nothing to teach them. These in turn affects their productivity because no matter the number of degrees you have or your grade, there is little you can accomplish alone.

Succeed You Must.

3m Bottles Of Codeine-containing Syrup Consumed Daily In Kano, Jigwa
User Avatar Forum: Other Stories
Posted by: Gimbiya - 12-18-2017, 12:52 PM - No Replies

Unless there is urgent intervention, experts have warned that Nigeria may be building a nation of drug addicts. This is not unconnected with latest reports which show that 3 million bottles of codeine are consumed daily in Kano and Jigawa States. Even the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration of Nigeria, NAFDAC, has expressed worry over uncontrolled use of codeine containing cough syrups across the country.
Also just last week, the Medical Director, Psychiatric Hospital, Yaba, Lagos, Dr. Oluyemisi Ogun, had confirmed a sharp increase in the number of patients with drug-related cases seen at the hospital in recent times. Ogun who spoke at a symposium put together by the Health Writers Association of Nigeria, HEWAN, with the theme: “Emergency Response to Disease Outbreaks: The Way Forward in Nigeria”, said although the threat of communicable disorders was evident, the nation ought to be more worried about non-communicable disorders like drug abuse. “We are talking about communicable diseases, but we have another epidemic on hand, which is the issue of drug abuse. We are seeing more and more of this and it is a menace. I would urge that attention be drawn to it urgently. “There is no family now that is not affected. Our children are at risk as much as our husbands, wives and other relatives. It is actually more than an epidemic. In all the nooks and crannies around us there are people selling drugs and we needed to bring this threat to the realm of the public and the government for us to be able to do something about it.”
Noting that the issue of drug abuse should at the forefront of the public domain, Ogun noted that all the security agencies, particularly the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA that have a role to play should be able to do so much. In her submission, a Deputy Director of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration of Nigeria, NAFDAC, Mrs Abayomi Bolaji who spoke on behalf of the Director General, Prof Mojisola Adeyeye raised alarm over the spate of abuse of codeine containing cough syrups. Bolaji lamented that the Agency was worried about the incessant abuse of codeine in recent times. “We have codeine which is currently being abused. I want to let you know that in the course of our regulatory activities, if we find codeine in a Patent Medicine Store, the person will be heavily sanctioned. Codeine has medicinal use and what the Agency does is that we give permit for it to be imported and sold.” Bolaji said NAFDAC goes as far as collating the stock from the warehouses, manufacturing facilities, and takes stock of what the importer has used and imported to produce and follow up distribution. “But unfortunately, we know people cut corners. Codeine containing syrups are not supposed to be freely sold, they are not Over-the-Counter drugs but somehow they get into the hands of people through the pharmacies or Patent medicine dealers, but it is part of our regulatory functions to control the circulation and importation of these drugs. “If peradventure a manufacturer cannot give account of the quantity that he was given permit to import, he is heavily sanctioned and may not be given permission to import next time. Because of the education of the pharmacists they cooperate but the patent medicine dealers y are the ones selling at night, and we cannot get them when we go during the day time. But it has been discovered that they go as far as hiding these drugs with persons in the next shop, maybe with a tailor or barber. People need to be told the consequences of their action. It is not only just about money. The demand for codeine containing cough syrups is so high.” Findings by Vanguard showed that following the alarm raised three months ago of rising incidences and reports of drug abuse, particularly codeine-containing cough syrups in the 19 Northern states of the Federation, the Senate and other relevant stakeholders are converging in Kano today for a two- day roundtable on drug abuse. It was reported that in 2015 alone, over 2,205 people were arrested in North-West geo-political zone by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, over drug-related abuses. Vanguard gathered that the roundtable will enable the Senate effectively analyze Nigeria’s response to the menace and come up with appropriate strategies on the way forward. During the roundtable, the drivers of drug abuse in Nigeria are to be isolated, with the aim of identifying the psychosocial and medical impact of the phenomenon, assessing current responses, legislative gaps and opportunities for action. Among expected outcomes include: gaining a better understanding of drug use, prevalence, trends and patterns in Nigeria; understanding the current government and Civil Society capacity and efforts towards addressing drug abuse and related issues; gain insight into legislative, policy gaps and develop an Action Plan for interventions by the National Assembly and other stakeholders.
It would be recalled that Senate, had in October, this year, raised the alarm about the drug abuse threat in the 19 states, where women, young girls in tertiary institutions, working class ladies, married, unemployed women displaced by Boko Haram insurgency, among others, were involved in drug abuse. The Senate had mandated its Joint Committee on Drugs and Narcotics and Health to investigate the growing menace of cough and other prescriptive drugs abuse and report back to the Senate on the needed legislative interventions to combat the trend. The senators stressed that secondary school students consumed cough syrups regularly. The Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki, said that the Senate will take necessary actions to reduce the growing menace.

According to NAFDAC, Codeine is an opiate used for its analgesic (pain reliever) and more commonly antitussive effect (cough suppressant) in cough syrups. “Codeine containing cough syrups are effective in the management of certain coughs. However, it has a high potential for abuse and may present some serious adverse reactions to the user. For these reasons, access to codeine containing cough syrups has been restricted in several countries. Some of the known adverse effects of codeine include: respiratory depression; hallucination and physical dependence as a result of continued use. NAFDAC is currently working with the Pharmacist Council of Nigeria (PCN), National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) and National Institute for Pharmaceutical Research and Development (NIPRD) to arrest the increasing abuse of these cough syrups in Nigeria. NAFDAC is embarking on massive public enlightenment campaign on the dangers of abuse of codeine containing medicines in Nigeria. The Agency has put in place strategy to limit the supply and distribution of codeine containing cough syrups in Nigeria. Prescribers and dispensers are encouraged to prescribe and dispense these cough syrups rationally. Consumers are advised to take codeine containing cough syrups only on prescription by health care professionals.

Nigeria ranked second largest HIV epidemic nation in 2016; ‘230,000 babies were born

Nigeria had the second largest HIV epidemic in 2016, with over 196,000 adolescents, representing 10 per cent of the global burden said to be living with HIV/AIDS, according to a World Health Report.
[Image: screenshot-web.facebook.com-2017-12-17-17-20-46-610.png]
The report was given by Mrs Esther Samuel, The Chief Matron, Lagos State Ministry of Health, at a programme by a Non-governmental Organisation (NGO) Lisa Demi Project, in Lagos.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Lisa Demi Project, initiated in the U.K., seeks address the sexual health issues through Talks, Counselling and Entertainment among others.

The programme, held at the Teslim Balogun Stadium Surulere, Lagos on Thursday, and title “ Let’s Talk about Our Sexual Health’’, is targeted at teenagers between the ages 14 to 24.

Speaking on the dangers of unrestrained sexual activities among the youths, Samuel said the statistics from the health sector remained a concern.

“Nigeria has the second largest HIV epidemic. About 3.2 million people Nigerians were living with HIV in 2016.

“In Nigeria, over 196,000 adolescents, representing 10 percent of the global burden, are said to be living with HIV/AIDS.

“Also. 230,000 babies were born by girls aged 15 to 19 in 2015. This is a frightening report. However, 1 million STIs are acquired every day,’’ she said.
Relaying the statistics further, Samuel said that the world was groaning under the heavy burden of sexually transmitted diseases.

“Each year, there are estimated 357 million new infections, while globally more than 2 million 10 to 19-year-olds are living with HIV.

“About one in seven of all new HIV infections occur during adolescence. In the U.S., 21 per cent of the adolescents had drunk alcohol or used drugs before last sexual intercourse.

“About 85 per cent of these youths live in developing countries, while we also have 32 per cent of Nigerian population as youths which half (48.6 per cent) of adolescents aged 15 to 19 are sexually active.

“About 1 in 5 of sexually active females and 1 in 12 sexually active males had already engaged in sexual intercourse by the age of 15,’’ she said.

Samuel said that the alarming statistics should call for urgent action so as not to lose the bulk of the productive population to untreatable diseases such as STDs and STIs.

“These are real figures which should bring something to our mind and it is no other thing than fear, and a call to action, especially among our youths.

“Our youths must be cautioned to refrain and advise. They all need to be guided not to waste their lives on what is worth waiting for.

“The youths should start to avoid something they call a little thing that does not matter but are sexual behaviours such as kissing, keeping secret friendships and others.

“We should focus on health education and STI prevention through school seminars, clubs, social media, parents, peer groups and proper counseling when STDs are detected early,’’ she said.
NAN reports that the event has in attendance over 1,000 students drawn from schools in Lagos. (NAN)

Yinka Ayefele: "The Day I Got An Erection At The Hospital Everyone Jubilated
User Avatar Forum: Music
Posted by: Gimbiya - 12-18-2017, 12:00 PM - No Replies

Veteran singer, Yinka Ayefele, who marked 20 years of the accident that left his crippled few days ago, in an interview with Sunday Scoop, recounted all that happened after the accident.
According to him, one of the highlights of the incident was him getting an erection.
After the accident, everyone jubilated when I had an erection one afternoon. I was wondering why they were rejoicing and they told me the doctors said I would not be able to have an erection again. They had reached the conclusion without my knowledge.”
On his girlfriend then who later became his wife, Ayefele said
She didn’t leave me when I was hospitalised, so why would she leave me afterwards? When things were bad, she was with me all through. We got married after the accident and we are blessed with four boys.”
He continued;
“I can still remember my response to a journalist who wanted to be sure I could impregnate a woman. I told him to bring his sister if he wanted a confirmation. It used to be embarrassing when people questioned my s*xual ability.Even if I am unable to make love to a woman, should that make them happy? Even if my wife and I opted for IVF, is it something they should gloat about?”
Recalling the circumstances that confined him to the wheelchair, he said, “I was on my way to Abeokuta, but I lost control of the car because it rained heavily that day. The car fell into a deep pit. I was taken to a nearby hospital, but they couldn’t handle my case because I was vomiting blood. I was taken to another hospital where it was discovered that I had a spinal cord injury.
I was then transferred to the University College Hospital, Ibadan, where I stayed for almost a year before I was discharged. Much later, I raised funds and travelled to the United Kingdom, for specialised treatment.”
I am still feeling pains; I am always in pain every day. Pills cannot even stop the pains and I am conscious of what I take in, but I thank God I have been able to cope. I give thanks to God for sparing my life.“I personally thought I would die, but my parents and loved ones encouraged me to stay alive. They felt bad, but they didn’t want to lose me. My father was alive then, but I lost him two years ago. He was so supportive all through the trying times” he said.

‘I want govt to arrest my dad for abandoning me’ – 9-yr-old boy evicted by stepdad ov

Remember nine-year-old Emmanuel Ironbar, who was sent away from his home in Calabar, Cross River State, by his stepfather over allegation of witchcraft, here’s an update on the case.
[Image: screenshot-punchng.com-2017-12-17-14-40-51-694.png]
Nine-year-old, Emmanuel Ironbar is currently experiencing a hard time that some adults have never faced.

Emmanuel was sent out of his home by his stepfather, Mr. Ubong Akpan, for allegedly being a witch.

He told SUNDAY PUNCH,

“I have slept outside for some months now. I cannot remember how long that was before I was rescued. I was never sent to school, but I take my younger siblings to school, every day on the request of my mother. I also wish to go to school.”

Emmanuel was sleeping outside buildings around No. 28B, Yellow Duke Street in the Calabar-South axis of the Cross River State capital. His stepfather’s action was reportedly based on a claim from a church that the nine-year-old was a witch.

Emmanuel’s case is not the first in Calabar and other parts of the state. On June 17, 2016, two sisters, Aniema and Mary Ekpenyong, escaped lynching after a church in Ikot-Abasi-Effiom District of Akpabuyo Local Government Area of Cross River State, branded them witches. They were first thrown out of their home by their uncle, identified as Victor, who took them to the church for alleged deliverance.

Similarly, on January 10, 2017, a 33-year-old taxi driver from Akamkpa Local Government Area, Festus Anyanime, confessed to have poisoned his 11-year-old twin daughters, Emediong and Mfoniso, after a church in his area labelled them witches.

These sad tales have become common episodes in Cross River and Akwa Ibom states as several kids had been killed over allegations of witchcraft.

The case of Emmanuel became public following a Facebook post by one Chris Inyang, who resides where the nine-year-old lived.

Emmanuel, who is now in the custody of Basic Rights Counsel Initiative in Calabar, is pleading to be enrolled in school.

The boy, who now enjoys watching movies on TV, urged the government to arrest his father, Okokon Ironbar, for abandoning and rejecting him.

He said, “My father runs his business at the Etim-Edem Park in Calabar. My mother married another man after she left him. She has three other children for my father. She also has a boy and a girl for my stepfather. In all, I have five siblings.

“I was staying with my mother before my stepfather sent me parking because they claimed I was a witch. When they sent me out initially, I was sleeping beside a church. I later moved to an abandoned shop. I was always afraid at night.

“Sometimes, my mother would sneak out of the house to give me food whenever my stepfather was not at home. I want government to arrest my father because he was the one that neglected my mother. He never cared about our welfare. I have never been to school because I was never given the opportunity. I wish to go to school.”

Inyang said he saw the boy in the neighbourhood for some time but didn’t know he was sleeping outside until his (Inyang) children drew his attention to Emmanuel’s plight.

Inyang told our correspondent that he pitied Emmanuel when he saw him and initially contemplated adopting him but for the tedious official process associated with such move.
He added that to prevent any evil from happening to him, he went on social media to draw attention to his plight.

Inyang said, “I gave him food and money few times. I allowed him to fetch water free of charge in my compound. I saw him take his siblings to school many times. I was sad when I learnt that his stepfather branded him a witch and threw him out of his house.”

SUNDAY PUNCH observed that the kiosk where Emmanuel slept before he was rescued was an eyesore.

Some occupants in houses located around the 28B, Yellow Duke Street said the boy was exposed to all sorts of danger before succour came his way. The 28B Yellow Duke Street has over 30 buildings.

The Executive Director, Basic Rights Counsel Initiative, Mr. James Ibor, who got in touch with Inyang on Emmanuel’s case, noted that branding children as witches by fake pastors and prophets had become a routine in Cross River and Akwa Ibom states.

He said, “My attention was drawn to the boy’s plight on Facebook.  I quickly mobilised and we arrived at the place where the boy was.

“It was Inyang that facilitated our movement to where we found him. We found him on tattered clothes looking unkempt. We did our best to reassure him that there are good people willing to support him.

“He told us his story and we reassured him that he was not a witch. The boy was labelled a witch and stigmatised by his stepfather. The stepfather claimed that it was a church that told him that the boy was a witch. We traced the stepfather to a church along Technology Street in Calabar-South and we had an interaction with him.

“Although the stepfather initially denied knowing Emmanuel, he later admitted that he knew him but denied kicking him out of the house. He said he was aware that Emmanuel is a witch but he did not call him one. We asked him how he knew Emmanuel was a witch, he didn’t answer. We are working to get to the root of the matter to know the person who stated that Emmanuel was a witch.”

Ibor said investigation revealed that the stepfather might have called Emmanuel a witch because he didn’t want to take responsibility for his upkeep.

“Like the saying goes — you call a dog a bad name to hang it. So, the only way to justify kicking him out was to brand him a witch. We have received reports that the stepfather is making plans to send Emmanuel’s mother out of the house too because he felt she was the one that made us interven. She is nursing two children and we are careful that she is not pushed out so as not to worsen the case of the two children,” he added.

Ibor further said the belief in witches and wizards, especially in Cross River and Akwa Ibom states, was deep and disturbing.

He added,

“Many people believe that old people or children are mostly witches. Many years before the visit of Mary Slessor, old people were branded witches and lynched if the young ones kept dying in a family. Over the years, the belief faded away but because of the uprise in Pentecostalism, especially when a movie based on a book was produced by a Calabar-based woman pastor, the belief in witches and wizards was re-ignited.

“In the movie, children were portrayed as witches and people started believing that most children without good backgrounds are witches. Children with physical challenges are also called witches. That was how many parents started throwing their children into the streets.’’

At a recent conference in Calabar, the resident pastor of Cornerstone Bible Ministry and state Coordinator of the Albino Foundation, Pastor Bassey Mbang, said churches were using the concept of witchcraft to deceive the public.

He described prophets preaching about witches as bereft of sound gospel.

Mbang stated, “Nobody has been able to tell me the symptoms of a witch. It is not only children who are tagged witches, if God blesses you with long life and you live to be over 70, people will start calling you a witch. I have not seen any clear evidence of witchcraft.
“Most of the pastors call the children witches because of money. If they tell you your child is a witch, and they will deliver the child, you will give them money. It is a business; it pays them and that is why they are doing it.’’

Prostitute And Mourner Have Sex At A Burial In Anambra, Almost Lynched
User Avatar Forum: Other Stories
Posted by: Gimbiya - 12-18-2017, 10:53 AM - Replies (1)

There are some stories you hear/ read about, and you don't even know how to react, just like this one that happened at a funeral in Umuduru Village, Ihiala Local Government Area of Anambra State.

During the funeral services of a man in Anambra state, an alleged drunk sex worker got into sexual activity with a man who was there for the funeral, right in front of other sympathizers.

Sympathizers were shocked at what was going on right in front of them, so they pounced on the couple. The sex worker escaped but the man wasn't so lucky as the youths at the funeral descended on him with beatings. Fortunately for him though, he was rescued by the elders of the community.

According to Southern City News after the elders rescued the man, they asked him to present them with six cartons of beer and some money, which they'd use to appease the gods of the land. Read what an anonymous witness said about the incident below:

“This abominable act took place during a burial ceremony of a lady at Umuduru Village, Ihiala.
“It was gathered from an eyewitness that a woman believed to be a commercial sex worker living in one of the brothels in this community, apparently under an influence, said she wanted to perform `a show’.

“As part of the show, she stripped and dragged a young man simply known as `Chinwuba’ from Ogboro Umunwaji Village in Ihiala out of the crowd. Both engaged in a sex orgy right in front of onlookers with impunity.

“Some angry youths pounced on them and in the process, the lady escaped. But Chinwuba was not that lucky. It took the intervention of the elders who restrained the irate youths from sending the man to his early grave. “The elders fined him six cartons of beer and an undisclosed amount of money. They (elders) said the fine was to appease the gods of the land for the abominable act,” the source stated.

I Have Forgiven Burnaboy - Mr. 2kay
[Image: Mr-2Kay2017.jpg]
Mr. 2kay in a new chat with Saturday Beats, said he no longer holding any grudge against Burnaboy.
Recall the singer was said to ahve been attacked by Burnaboy's men during Tuface's concert over 2months ago, an attack that some him deeply bruised.
Speaking on the incident he said;
When they were beating me, I thought I was going to die on that day. When you see a man with a gun, anything can happen. They were debating on whether to shoot me or not. They were debating over my life if I should live or not. It was one of them that said he was my fan and he loved my song. That person did not touch me; he only tied me to a chair and was calming me down. It was God that saved my life because when I first saw them, the first thing I shouted was Jesus and I believe that was what saved me.”
On allegations that Burnaboy called to apologise after the incident, he“What I said was that Burna Boy has called me and he apologised without admitting that he was involved in the assault on me. He told me that he had no hand in it. I had to reply him that I never fingered him; it was his manager and the boys that fingered him. All we need is honesty and the truth. He cannot apologise to me over a matter that he has no hand in.
At the end of the day, we all want this issue to go with this year and start the New Year on a fresh note. I was supposed to release my album this year but we could not do so because of this whole issue.
Next year should be a very busy one for me and I don’t want to spend my time at a police station or pay numerous visits to the commissioner of police. I just want to have peace. Burna Boy is still my brother any day and I have forgiven him but what we want is the truth. If he calls me and opens up, we have said that we would settle it out of court. It is possible for us to have a song together in the future if he wants it because he is my brother. I swear with my life that I hold nothing against Burna Boy,” he added.
The singer reiterated the fact that while he was being assaulted, he was robbed of a wristwatch which he claimed cost about N9m. He added that he didn’t care if anyone believed he owned such an expensive piece of jewellery.
Everything they stole from me was more than N9m; my wristwatch alone cost N9m. Everything stolen from me was over N10m. I wear an Audemars Piguet watch. I am a brand ambassador for an American alcoholic brand, Christian Brothers. For me to get an endorsement with the brand, you should know that money was involved. Also, my song, ‘Count it all Joy’, had the highest number of downloads from MTN, not just in Nigeria but MTN as a whole. I go for events, I have godfathers and some footballers are my friends as well.
I have people that could bless me with anything they want to gift me. I am from Rivers State and I do a lot of gigs; the music pays me a lot. I get royalties from my records playing in the UK as well. My record label is not broke so I wonder why people think I cannot afford a wristwatch worth N9m. I have a father who is my boss and he can afford to buy anything for me. It is my choice to spend as much as N9m on a watch and I owe no one any explanation. It is an investment and I can take that watch to the bank.”

‘Davido didn’t sack me, I left voluntarily. It was not easy to control him’ – Kamal A
User Avatar Forum: Music
Posted by: Pretty Bird - 12-18-2017, 10:37 AM - No Replies

It came as a rude shock when Davido announced on social media in January this year that he had parted ways with his former manager, Kamal Ajiboye, aka Kamal.

[Image: screenshot-www.fotor_.com-2017-12-17-12-56-35-901.png]
Many did not expect Davido to lay off   Kamal in such manner because the latter is highly respected in the entertainment industry.
In an exclusive chat with Sunday Scoop, Kamal insisted that he wasn’t fired via social media. He said,
“Davido didn’t give me the sack via social media. He was in Gabon when he wrote ‘I am now my own manager’ on Snapchat. Funnily, I was the one who drove him to the airport.
Before then, we had had conversations about moving forward and I realised that what he wanted was different from mine. I wanted something bigger for him, but he was comfortable with what he wanted to do.”
While admitting that Davido is a big client, he maintained that parting ways with him had not affected his career as an artiste’s manager.

I was prepared for it; I was the one who left voluntarily. It was something I thought about for a while. I wanted something I could control. This doesn’t mean I couldn’t control him, but Davido is a lot of pieces. When an artiste is big like he is, trust me it is not easy to control him. I didn’t lose control over him, but it got to a point where we had different goals.
“We are still cool; I see him as my friend and family. I still have a good relationship with the family members too; so there is no bad blood,” he said.
Presently managing Seyi Shay, Kamal further revealed that he didn’t fear that he would lose relevance once he stopped working with Davido.
“I have a good relationship with everyone. People who are familiar with me know that I am a man of my word. Whenever I set out to do something, I don’t look back. I think people appreciate this about me. I never got carried away because I was managing Davido. Then, I ensured that I always reached out to people and hung out with my friends.  So, after the split, I had a lot of support from my friends within and outside the industry.
“The split had nothing to do with the fact that I didn’t support his decision to snub the international deal he got with Sony Music. You know when artistes want to sell their market, they say different things.”
He urged other managers to build themselves and brands regardless of how big their artistes could be because they might walk away someday.
“Once a big artiste leaves a manager, it becomes hard for him or her to survive. But that shouldn’t be the case and I believe we must have learnt our lessons. When you are managing an artiste, you need to start building a brand for yourself because nothing lasts forever,” Kamal stated.

I'm Not In Competition With Phyno - Olamide
[Image: Olamide-Journey-of-a-thousand-miles.png]
Following the changing of Olamide's concert OLIC 4 venue to a much bigger one, many are saying that he is scared of Phyno as the latter had two successful soldout concerts at huge venues at the Nnamdi Azikwe Stadium in Enugu.
In an exclusive chat with Showtime, Olamide said he is not in competition with Phyno.
In his words;
I’m not competing with Phyno, everybody is entitled to their own opinion, and I’m just living my own dream. I’m 100% excited because this is something I’ve been looking forward to for over three years now; it’s always been about doing it big, something beyond the ordinary, giving back to the people and spreading love. Eko hotel is good, we’ve done a lot of stuff there but bringing OLIC4 to Teslim Balogun Stadium is about telling people out there that this is Lagos and Lagos cannot be limited, we can achieve whatever we set out to achieve”, he said.

Lai Mohammed Blasts People's Democratic Party (PDP)
Minister of Information, Lai Mohammed, has reacted to PDP’s statement condemning the Federal government’s decision to withdraw $1 billion in a bid to fight Boko Haram. The minister blasted the party, saying they lack shame.
According to the Minister who said the party is currently rebranding itself with stolen arms money, if the money meant for the prosecution of the war against Boko Haram wasn’t stolen, there wouldn’t have been any need to withdraw such an amount of money from the excess crude account.
The PDP under Jonathan in one day distributed $269 million cash and N100 billion which was supposed to be money meant to fight Boko Haram. The sad thing about PDP is that they do not know when not to talk. If they were smart they would know when not to talk. If not for their rapacious corruption, Boko Haram would not have metamorphosed into the monster that it became before we came in. If only they had approached governance with honesty transparency, and sense of purpose, Boko Haram would not have raged between 2009 and 2015, it was their inept handling of Boko Haram and their corruption that put us in this mess.
They seem not to understand that the biggest challenge to any government and the primary responsibility of any government is law and order and security. It is because of the fact that we have been able to contain Boko Haram that they were able to hold their national convention in Abuja. During their time they were not able to celebrate the National Day openly. Under their watch, Boko Haram not only occupied 27 local governments in Borno State, but was also active in almost ten states. Not that alone, they used to stroll to the federal capital, and three times they went to bomb the United Nations, the Police headquarters and under their watch, the Thisday newspaper was bombed and under their watch, about 200 Chibok girls were abducted’.
Lai Mohammed further reaffirmed that President Buhari’s Government December 2015 declaration, that Boko Haram had been defeated is not propaganda;
Why do we say that we have decimated Boko Haram? It is not propaganda. Since we came in 30 months, there has been no single bomb explosion in the Federal Capital, and that is not a mean feat! It is because they don’t understand what security means, they don’t even understand what terrorism means. It does not lie in the mouth of the PDP to even criticise the government, and it was their corruption that led us to where we are today. They are spending the same money which they stole, and they are using the money to rebrand themselves, they have no moral justification whatsoever,” the minister fumed.

An Indian woman has cried out after her visa application was rejected by authorities in the United Kingdom because her English-language proficiency is much higher than required by the immigration department.
Alexandria Rintoul in a Facebook post claimed she passed an advanced version of the International English Language Testing System, but the visa requirement is for a much easier exam.
According to what a Home Office spokeswoman told the BBC, some applicants for visas to settle in the UK need to pass an English language test at an approved centre that is specified in the immigration rules.
She said,

Mrs Rintoul failed to do this and also failed to submit the necessary supporting evidence for her application. It is open to her to reapply under the Priority Visa Service.”
Her application was denied on these grounds and she was asked to pass requisite English exam. “As evidence of this, you have provided your IELTS certificate. However, it is noted that this certificate is not an IELTS certificate acceptable for UKV,” said the rejection letter sent by the immigration department.

Why Catholic Leaders Don’t Own Private Jets – Archbishop
[Image: Mathew-Ndagoso-150x150.jpg]
Following the general belief across the globe that the Catholic Church is one of the richest churches in the world, Archbishop of Kaduna Catholic Diocese, Most Rev. Matthew Man-oso Ndagoso has said it was a wrong impression.
Bishop Ndagoso said if the Catholic is so rich as many people are claiming, its leaders would have owned private jets all over the country like other church leaders are doing.
According to Sunday Sun, he pointed out that many people, including some Catholic faithful, even went to the extent of believing that the Pope has a mint where he prints American dollars and distributes to catholic dioceses around the world. The cleric who spoke at a dinner cum formal commissioning ceremony of a newly built multi-purpose secretariat for Kaduna Diocese, said the Catholic leadership is prudent at managing meagre resources.
He said some people even have the erroneous impression that the head of the Catholic church, Pope has a mint from where he distributes dollars to dioceses all over the world.
Bishop Ndagoso restated that the catholic leadership does not engage in wasteful spending, but proper management of its resources to the envy of the world.
Many people in our country, including Catholics, are under the wrong impression that the Catholic Church is very rich. “If we are rich we would have bought fleets of jets like any other church, but we are not.
“Some even think that the Pope has a mint in the Vatican where he prints American dollars and the Euro which he distributes to catholic dioceses around the world. “If anything, what makes our church look rich is the ability to properly manage scarce resources with prudence and transparency.
This is why with so little, the church has always pursued goals that benefit humanity in general regardless of creed and social status through schools, hospitals and other social services. “It is for the same reason that as a church we always aspire to work in close collaboration with the state and its agencies that seek to improve the human condition like I said at the ground breaking ceremony of this project eight and half years ago.
Be that as it may, I wish to reiterate that our hands of collaboration are stretched out to the government, civil society groups and non government organisations for the common good of our people, especially in the areas of the provision of qualitative and functional education, health care and social services.

“In this vein, I wish to appeal to Kaduna State government to borrow a leaf from other state governments especially those in the southern and Middle Belt of our country and return our schools that were taken away from us without compensation as a matter of justice so that the church and the state can resume collaboration in the common service of our people”. Bishop Ndagoso said.

Kiss Daniel Did Not Attend His Father's Burial Because He Said His Family Was Fetish - G-Worldwide
[Image: KissDanielCover.jpg]
Following claims made by singer Kiss Daniel that he was not allowed to travel for his father's burial by his former label G-Worldwide, the label's managemnet have come out to debunk the claim.
In a statement made available to Sunday Scoop, the label is now claiming the singer refused to attend the burial because he claimed his family was selfish.

“Immediately the news of his father’s demise filtered in, Emperor Geezy, CEO of the label, authorised that his personal car should be used to convey Kiss Daniel to Abeokuta to attend his father’s burial. The singer only requested for two days’ leave, and N200,000 to send to his relatives, who had to bury the dad immediately because he was a Muslim. At that time, Kiss was bitterly angry that none of his family members could come up with even N10,000 to support his dad’s burial. The company was willing to give him more money but he said he needed only N200,000. The label CEO’s brother and one other person from the company even accompanied him on the trip back home. Interestingly, on arriving at a hotel in Abeokuta, which had been fully paid for by the label, Kiss refused to attend his own father’s burial on the grounds that he believed that his family was fetish. He said that his father’s death was not ordinary, considering the way he suddenly fell ill and died, after going through a lot of pain. He was scared and said he did not want to be exposed to any dangers. On the night of his arrival in Abeokuta, his younger brother was on his way to visit him when he got involved in a car accident. The label took care of his brother’s medical bills, and paid up to N300,000,” the statement read.
On claims the label barred Kiss from supporting other artistes, the label made it clear that Kiss, on his own, decided not to attend some events, even though his management had approved them.
[size=undefined]The label wrote, “In response to the claim that Kiss Daniel was barred from supporting other artistes, especially those who supported him and the label at the New Era album launch, we would like to put it on record that at no time did the label bar him from performing at events where friends in the industry had asked for his support. Kiss Daniel however made it a habit to turn up at events late or not at all, always blaming the label for his truancy. Clear examples include his failing to appear at Reekado Banks’ album listening party and 2face’s Buckwyld ‘n’ Breathless concert. He did this even when 2Baba had provided two separate accommodations for him and his manager at Eko Hotels. He stood up 2face and his manager from 6pm till 1am the next day, claiming that he was on his way, but he never showed up. He repeated the same behaviour at the Chronicles of Ushebebe show, Soundcity’s 2016 MVP Awards, and many others.”
Meanwhile, when Sunday Scoop, reached out to Kiss Daniel, his handlers declined to comment, saying that they would make some revelations ‘when the time is right.’[/size]

RHAPSODY OF REALITIES DAILY DEVOTIONAL (DECEMBER PDF => http://bit.ly/2cuJG6M

*UNDERSTANDING HIS PERFECT LOVE .*

Monday, December 18th .
Pastor Chris

_*There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love (1 John 4:18).*_

Loving the Lord, and knowing that He loves you, is perfect love, and that perfect love rids your life of fear. This means the one who lives in fear isn’t perfected in love. You really don’t need to try to fight fear or doubt if you’d walk in God’s love. There’ll be no need for an effort on your part to walk triumphantly over the darkness and adversities of life if you’d trust His love for you, and love Him in return.

Sometimes, Christians and even ministers of the Gospel may have fears; it could be fear about their health, about their finances, about their ministry, etc. If you ever find yourself in such a state, don’t despair. Rather, meditate on the Father’s love for you, until it takes a hold of your spirit. If you do, no matter the troubles, you’ll have boldness and courage for victory in the midst of the trouble.

When someone says, “I’m afraid of this or that,” that person is yet to comprehend the love of God, for perfect love drives away fear: fear of being rejected by others, fear of the future or fear of life itself. What you need to realize is that God is love and you don’t have to be afraid of Him, despite all the wrong things you may have done. He says, _*“Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need”*_ (Hebrews 4:16).

God’s love for you is perfect love; that means He isn’t going to love you more when you get to heaven than He already does. Relate to Him with this understanding, and you’ll never be afraid of anything, for He has said, _*“…Yea, I have loved thee with an everlasting love…”*_ (Jeremiah 31:3).

  David Mark Vs EFCC
User Avatar Forum: Judiciary
Posted by: trustangel - 12-17-2017, 09:57 PM - No Replies

Former Senate President, Senator David Mark has broken silence on his recent invitation to the headquarters of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, in Abuja.

Reports had it that Mark, who was President of the 6th and 7th senate, was invited by the anti-graft agency over some money that went missing under his leadership.

Speaking for the first time after leaving the EFCC office, Mark, who represents Benue South in the Upper Legislative Chamber, explained that he had maintained a clean record as a public servant and had no reason to embezzle public fund.

A statement issued by his media aide, Paul Mumeh and obtained by DAILY POST Sunday afternoon reads “Our attention has been drawn to media reports wherein it was reported that former President of the Senate Sen. David Mark was quizzed by Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over some alleged financial transactions.

To set the record straight, Sen. Mark was invited by the EFCC via a letter addressed to the National Assembly to answer questions on the 2015 presidential election campaign funds as it concerned Benue state.[Image: David-Mark.jpg]

As a law abiding citizen, Sen. Mark honoured the invitation.

Curiously, they also alleged that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) paid over N2bilion into the National Assembly’s account which he, as the then President of the Senate, allegedly shared among the 109 Senators (including PDP, ACN, and ANPP) in 2010. Again, to the best of his knowledge, Sen. Mark is not aware of such transaction. This simply did not make sense to any right thinking member of the society. Sen. Mark wondered why anybody would think that PDP will pay money into National Assembly account. He however clarified all the issues raised before returning home.

Sen. Mark believes in due process and rule of law. He has maintained a clean record of public service over the years and will continue to uphold the highest standard of conduct expected of public servants.

Sen. Mark’s house has since become a pilgrimage of sort to Politicians across party lines, friends and well-wishers identifying with him at this moment.

He however appealed to his supporters, friends and associates to remain calm and see his current travails as a price he has to pay for leadership.

For the avoidance of doubt, this is the first and only official statement from the office of Sen. Mark on this issue.”

The  Gambia Press Union (GPU) and Media Foundation for West Africa (MFWA), supported by International Freedom of Expression Exchange (IFEX) will hold a forum in honour of victims of freedom of expression violation in The Gambia as part of events marking the commemoration of the 12th anniversary of the assassination of Deyda Hydara.

The event, to be held on Saturday at 3:00pm at the UTG Law Faculty in Kanifing, is being organised in partnership with the Ministry of Information and Communication Infrastructure, Deyda Hydara Family, The Point Newspaper, Article 19 and Victims Centre.

Mr Hydara is a founder member and former president of the GPU. He was also managing editor and co-proprietor of The Point Newspaper. The prominent journalist was killed on 16 December 2004 while from The Point's office on Garba Jahumpa Road in Bakau. He was accompanied by two female staff of The Point; Ida Jagne and Nyangsara Jobe. Twelve years on, his killers remain unknown.

Every year, GPU and partners commemorate December 16 to keep Deyda's legacy alive and renew calls for justice. In 2015, the Union launched the Deyda Hydara Memorial Lecture Series. The maiden lecture was titled 'The Role of the Media in the Independence Struggle of The Gambia'. This year's event will also highlight the cases of many media practitioners who have suffered the brutalities of the former government. The day will kick off with a procession from KMC grounds to the site of his shooting, before marching down to Law Faculty.

Toyin Saraki Seeks Review of NGO Bill
User Avatar Forum: Financial Institutions
Posted by: trustangel - 12-17-2017, 09:36 PM - No Replies

Abuja — Mrs. Toyin Saraki, the wife of Senate President, wants the NGO Regulatory Commission Bill, currently under consideration at the House of Representatives, to be revised because it is inadequate.

Mrs Saraki’s position came just as a former National Secretary of Labour Party (LP), Mr Kayode Ajulo, expressed his support for the bill.

“First, the NGO Bill’s definitions of an NGO and a CSO are inadequate, excluding faith-based entities/groups, philanthropies, and labour/trade unions. Further, because NGOs and CSOs are already registered under Part C of the Companies and Allied Matters Act (CAMA), the requirement of renewable registration, every 2 years, under the new (about-to-be-established) Non-Governmental Organizations Regulatory Commission of Nigeria (hereinafter referred to as ‘the Commission’) poses operational risks to especially multi-year projects and programs, not least because, in the event of the cancellation or suspension of registration, the NGO Bill makes no provision for a possible appeal of such a decision, directly to the Commission”, she said in a letter to Speaker Yakubu Dogara.

“Second, on the issue of approval of NGO/CSO projects, by the relevant Ministry (eg, Health; Agriculture and Rural Development; Women Affairs and Social Development; etc), as made under Clause 26(1) of the NGO Bill, this needs to be corrected, as it portends the potential for manipulation and other bureaucratic delays."

On his part, Ajulo said founders of NGOs operating in the country are driven by selfish, financial gains accruing from their activities rather than the passion to serve humanity.

Quoting from a memorandum he submitted to the House of Representatives, he noted that it was because of the financial gains to be made that there is a proliferation of “emergency NGO founders” across the country.

The activist said the era envisaged under the bill will ensure that NGOs are driven by passion and not by financial inducement. According to him, the commission to be established will be saddled with the responsibility of issuing licenses to NGOs renewable every two years while also submitting financial reports. Ajulo explained that several Nigerians had criticized the bill on the grounds that there are enough laws that only need to be implemented and that the bill was designed to muscle NGOs and Civil Society Organizations. Strongly expressing his disagreement with the critics, the former LP leader said he was of the firm belief that there should be a regulatory framework for NGOs and CSOs.

Ghost Companies Lift N1.1tr Crude Oil
User Avatar Forum: Politics
Posted by: Edoman - 12-17-2017, 09:26 PM - No Replies

By Daniel Adugbo
Some indigenous companies not registered by the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) have lifted Nigerian crude oil grades valued at $3.5 billion (about N1.1 trillion) in the last 10 months, an investigation by Daily Trust on Sunday has shown.
A four-month enquiry into Nigerian and global corporate registries by our reporter showed that the repeated failure by the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) to provide clear and accurate identity of some companies it awarded multi-million dollar oil lifting contracts this year is helping these companies to escape public scrutiny.
This is even as the corporation prepares for another round of award, as it had, in late October, issued a tender seeking companies to engage in the lifting of Nigerian crude oil grades for the 2018/2019 term.
The main problem started on January 3, 2017 when the NNPC announced 39 successful winners for its crude lifting contract that would run for 12 months. The announcement was followed by a release of the names of the winners to newsmen and in a post on its official website.
The names of the 18 beneficiary Nigerian companies were simply given as Prudent Energy; Setana Energy; Emo oil; Bono; Optima Energy; Shoreline Limited; AMG Petroenergy; A. A. Rano; Cassiva Energy and Arkleen Oil and Gas Limited. Others are North West Petroleum; Brittania-U; Hyde Energy; Eterna Oil and Gas; Masters Energy; MRS Oil and Gas; Sahara Energy and Oando.
Part of the mandatory pre-qualification requirement for the Nigerian companies that applied for the contract as requested by the NNPC was evidence of company registration issued by the CAC.
Daily Trust on Sunday wrote to the CAC seeking information on the registration statuses of the 18 indigenous companies that won the contract. But the commission replied that it had no evidence of the registration of seven of the 18 companies.
It listed AMG Petroenergy Limited, Brittania-U, Cassiva Energy, Hyde Energy, Masters Energy and Bono Energy Nigeria Limited as companies that didn’t exist on its database.
“If you have any document to support their registration, you may wish to forward them to us to enable us investigate further,” CAC’s reply dated September 26, 2017 and signed by Terver Ayua-Jor stated.
The name of the last company in the CAC response letter was misspelled as Savana Energy instead of Sahara Energy as requested by this newspaper.
“That shows that the company is not registered, the name does not exist,” said an Abuja-based lawyer with experience in companies’ registration.
“You cannot build something on nothing,” the lawyer, who did not want to be named, said about the legal implication of a company not being registered, adding that Section 30, subsection 1 (a) of the Companies and Allied Matters Act (CAMA) states that the CAC cannot register companies with identical names.
A Freedom of Information (FOI) request dated August 9, 2017 to the NNPC asking for the authentic names of the 18 indigenous companies as well as their crude oil entitlements, has not been replied by the corporation as at the time of filing this report.
Some top NNPC officials responsible for crude sales approached for confidential response to the discrepancies in the companies’ identities also did not respond for months.
The refusal to make information about the real identities of the companies available contradicts provisions of the Public Procurement Act, 2007, which is the legal framework for contract award and public procurement in Nigeria.
Section 38 (2) of the Act requires every procuring government entity to, on request, make available the comprehensive record of procurement proceedings to “(a) any person after a tender, proposal, offer or quotation has been accepted or after procurement proceedings have been terminated without resulting in a procurement contract.”
Independent analyses conducted through foreign corporate registration databases like open corporate, fara.gov and websites of the 18 indigenous companies showed that the NNPC may have deliberately fed the public with the incorrect legal names of entities to which it is entrusting billions of dollar worth of oil sales.
For instance, a web-based search for ‘Cassiva Energy,’ one of the companies given by the NNPC as oil lifting contract beneficiary, showed that no entity exists as ‘Cassiva Energy.’ Instead, Casiva Limited was found.
Casiva Limited announced on its website, NNPC’s 2017/2018 crude off take award to the company as one of the jobs it had executed.
Also, AMG Petroenergy, which the NNPC awarded the contract and the CAC said didn’t exist in its database, has a company website named as AMG Petroenergy Limited.
“AMG is very well established in Nigeria’s oil and gas downstream. Currently, AMG markets 90,000 barrels per day of crude oil in the international market from the NNPC,” the website stated about the company’s business objectives.
Daily Trust on Sunday wrote to AMG Petroenergy Limited through the main contact email address on its website, asking questions pertaining to the exact name it signed the NNPC contract with, its crude entitlements, as well as how it markets, transports or otherwise disposes of the crude cargoes it receives under its contract(s) with the commission, but the company did not reply.
Again, Brittania-U, one of the companies the CAC said didn’t exist in its database, has a website that announced the company as “a leader in Nigeria’s petroleum industry” and “a major player in the upstream and downstream sectors” operating in Nigeria for over 20 years as an indigenous integrated company.
“You can’t find Brittania-U Nigeria Limited? Please! Please!” Catherine Uju Ifejika, chairman/chief executive officer of the company responded in an irate tone when our reporter contacted her about why the company could not be found in the CAC record.
“I signed the contract (as Brittania-U Nigeria Limited). There is only one company that is Brittania-U Nigeria Limited,” Ifejika said after reminding our reporter of her 35-year experience as a lawyer and, therefore, couldn’t have made any mistake about the contract she signed.
“There is nobody in the industry that does not know Brittania-U as a group with almost seven companies in it,” she also added.
When she was told that the name emanated from the NNPC, Mrs Ifejika said, “It is not the NNPC, you people (journalists) are the ones that make up this state of confusion. Why would the NNPC give a company that is not in existence?’’
In response to a question on why the NNPC published her company’s name simply as Brittania-U, she said, “I don’t care what they (NNPC) have out (published). I didn’t even look at what they have out. I signed an agreement between myself, my company and the NNPC. The grand norm is the agreement.”
A web-based search of ‘Masters Energy,’ another company in the NNPC award list the CAC records showed didn’t exist, pulled Masters Energy Oil and Gas Ltd instead, as the closest semblance to the latter in Nigeria.
Masters Energy Oil and Gas Ltd, according to the information in its website, was incorporated in Nigeria in 2005 to “operate fully in the oil and gas sector.”
It is as a member of Masters Energy Group owned by a Nigerian oil magnate and politician, Mr. Uchechukwu Sampson Ogah, who, on June 27, 2016, was declared governor of Abia State by a Federal High Court in Abuja, but a Supreme Court judgement truncated his ambition.
Daily Trust on Sunday contacted the company’s spokesman, Emmanuel Iheanacho, on the name of the entity or subsidiary/sister company/companies the contract was directly awarded, including examples of cargoes of Nigerian crude that the company traded prior to signing the contract with the NNPC. Mr. Iheanacho acknowledged receipt of the questions but replied in a text: “I cannot respond from where I am. Thanks so much for your professional approach,” explaining earlier that he was “out of office for the next three to four weeks,” so he couldn’t reply.
Our reporter reached out to the other companies through an email address or phone numbers on the websites that matched their companies’ names, but they did not respond to either say they received or did not receive crude sales award from the NNPC in 2017.
The spokesman of the NNPC, Ndu Ughamadu, promised to address the questions raised in the August 9, 2017 FOI request, but response was still being awaited as at press time.
The NNPC, however, had in January 2017 replied a query on similar matter, stating that it made the “difficult choice” not to publish the winners’ full names in an effort to protect them and “gullible buyers” from fraudsters.
Crude market and industry professionals, however, disagreed, saying that in an oil market commonly marred by fraud and illegal sales, precision around company identities is important.
“I believe transparency is a major challenge in the Nigerian business environment. It should be easy to know who the traders and shippers are and their qualifications to undertake the tasks,” said Emeka Duruigbo, a professor of Energy and Business Law at Thurgood Marshall School of Law, Houston, Texas.
“Corruption, ineptitude and inefficiency thrive in the midst of opacity,” Duruigbo, who has knowledge of the workings of the international oil market said.
How dodgy companies pocket margins from $3.5bn oil
The crude term sale contracts to companies, including those awarded the 18 Nigerian oil companies, are among the most significant deals the NNPC signs yearly because crude sales are government’s largest revenue stream.
When in January 3, 2017, the corporation announced successful winners for the contract, it also stated that all the companies (excluding Duke Oil, NNPC subsidiary), were to receive 32,000 barrels per day (b/d) of the Nigerian equity crude.
Consequently, about 67.2 million barrels of Nigerian crude may have been lifted from January to October 2017 by AMG Petroenergy Limited, Brittania-U, Cassiva Energy, Hyde Energy, Masters Energy, Bono Energy Nigeria Limited and Sahara, which are the seven companies that were not found in the CAC database.
The 67.2 million barrels of oil was arrived at after multiplying 32,000 barrels daily lifting by the seven companies for 10 months.
The NNPC, in a November 27 statement, quoted its Group General Manager, Corporate Planning and Strategy, Mr. Bala Wunti, to have said that average crude oil price between January and October 2017 was $52.49 barrels per day.
Therefore, multiplying $52.49 by 67.2 million barrels crude shows that the value of oil lifted by the seven companies with identity problems may be worth as much as $3.5 billion in the market, or N1.1 trillion at the official exchange rate of N307 to a dollar.
The margins collected by these companies from the sales of the $3.5 billion worth of oil are mind-boggling if Daily Trust on Sunday’s calculation of the margins is anything to go by.
Market analysis shows that the NNPC sells the country’s crude share to the trading companies at a discounted price, when compared to Brent crude, the global crude benchmark.
Our reporter studied Argus and Platts, two of the leading global commodity markets price producers and found that the official selling price (OSP) the NNPC sets for Nigerian crude generally fluctuates, but they are often lower than a barrel of Brent crude, the benchmark for most of the oil produced in Africa.
Because some of these trading companies lack the financial and operational wherewithal to sell the oil, they instead resell or ‘flip,’ the oil they receive to larger, more experienced commodity traders and collect a margin on the sale.
According to findings by Daily Trust on Sunday, the standard margin traders rake in is about $0.3-0.4 per barrel, although the margin may vary considerably, depending on market conditions.
According to our estimates, each of the trading companies could be reaping as much as $3.8 million ($0.4 per barrel) margin monthly on a standard cargo load of 960,000 barrels (32,000 per day), depending on what it negotiated in the crude marketing agreement with the NNPC.
A 2012 House of Representatives committee audit, led by ex-lawmaker, Mr. Farouk Lawan, named some of these dodgy companies among oil marketers that collected subsidy funds from the Federal Government illegally. They were also listed as chronic tax defaulters to the government.
The Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) relied on Section 14 (1) (d) of the FOI Act to decline a Daily Trust on Sunday’s request for information on the seven companies’ outstanding tax liabilities.
“A public institution must deny any application that contains information required of any taxpayer in connection with the assessment or collections of any tax…” Wahab Gbadamosi, head of communications of the FIRS said.
There is no available public record that the companies made refunds to the government, but the NNPC continues to award oil lifting contracts to them.
This investigation was supported by a grant from the Natural Resource Governance Institute (NRGI). The NRGI had no editorial control over the content.

Dutch-Ethiopian Man Jailed for Life for Red Terror War Crimes
User Avatar Forum: Crime
Posted by: trustangel - 12-17-2017, 08:36 PM - No Replies

A 63-year-old Dutch-Ethiopian man was sentenced to life in jail on Friday.

Dutch judges found Eshetu Alemu guilty of war crimes committed during the Red Terror in the late 1970s, when bloody purges were conducted under the Derg, the regime led by Marxist dictator Mengistu Haile Mariam.

"Life in prison is the only approriate measure," said the Dutch presiding judge, when considering the gravity and extent of Alemu's crimes.

In fact, during the trial a total of 321 victims were named in four war crimes charges, which included the murder of 75 political opponents and the arbitrary detention in cruel and inhuman conditions of civilians and fighters who had laid down their arms.

During the trial Alemu accepted political responsibility for the Derg's crimes but told judges he did not personally commit them and denied all the charges.

"Dark cells"

A Dutch resident for almost 30 years, Alemu was the top administrator of Ethiopia's north-western Gojjam province in the late 70s.

But he actually behaved like a henchman to former dictator Mengistu, conducting a reign of terror, prosecutors said.

Several witnesses spoke of "dark cells", where opponents of the Derg were locked up in close confinement for days and faced constant torture.

Alemu was sentenced to death in absentia for Red Terror crimes in his homeland in 2007

Upon hearing the verdict, families of victims applauded.

For them, justice has finally been served.

Buhari challenges ECOWAS leaders on how to manage resources
User Avatar Forum: Financial Institutions

President Muhammadu Buhari on Saturday called on ECOWAS member states to urgently review their spending patterns for optimisation of strategic goals of the Community.[Image: Buhari-1-1.jpg]

President Buhari made the call at the 52nd Ordinary Session of the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government held in AbujaHe said the call had become imperative in view of the recent recession and economic challenges faced by ECOWAS member states, as evidenced by the severe drop in real growth rate for ECOWAS from 6.1 per cent in 2014 and 3.3 per cent in 2015 to an alarming rate of 0.2 per cent in 2016.

According to him, member states must therefore ensure that resources are put to good economic use to boost peoples’ quality of lives.

He added that “in this regard, I urge the Commission leadership to practice probity and accountability in the management of our resources.”

The President equally stressed the need to consolidate the efforts made so far on reform of ECOWAS Institutions and Specialized Agencies.

The Nigerian leader also emphasised the importance of good governance, sound financial management and cost reduction as underlying factors for successful reform.

He said “in this regard, Nigeria welcomes the approved institutional reforms of our organisation, and we are looking forward to their comprehensive implementation.

“The gains and savings made should be invested in greater integration projects, as well as on security and development initiatives.”

President Buhari had on Dec. 15 commended the leadership of ECOWAS Commission for demanding accountability from its headquarters staff.

Buhari gave the commendation when he received the President of the ECOWAS Commission, Mr. Marcel A. de Souza, and described the commission’s invitation of Nigeria’s Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to look into its books as a welcome development.

The President of ECOWAS Commission, Mr. Marcel A. de Souza, said the sub-region was facing complex and recurring crises that endangered the lives of the people and sometimes the existence of member states.

According to him, the fight against terrorism and the management of internal political crises often take precedence over economic and social developmental issues.

He noted that “indiscriminate terrorist attacks continue to plague our hard-working populations in northern Nigeria, Mali, Niger, Burkina Faso and Cote d’Ivoire.

“The major part of the national budget of these countries, as well as the commission’s operational budget are being diverted to combat terrorism and carry out peacekeeping operations.”.

PDP Presidential Ticket : Atiku Can’t Stop Us – Lamido, Shekarau, Makarfi Vow

The political tremor set off by the return of former vice president, Atiku Abubakar, to the Peoples Democratic Party, where, it is widely believed, he would seek the 2019 presidential ticket, may not ease off soon.

Since his defection to the party about two weeks ago, political alignments and realignments have been ongoing within the PDP and between some members of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and some PDP members.

Although the then PDP leadership under former Kaduna State governor, Senator Ahmed Mohammed Makarfi, was alleged to have provided him a “soft landing” by dissolving the Adamawa State caretaker committee, to enable Atiku’s men take over the structure of the party while still hanging on in the APC at the time, the statement from the party’s leadership shortly after his defection that there was no automatic ticket for the Adamawa-born politician is a clear indication that Atiku is not likely to get the ticket on a gold platter.

Neither would his ambition dim the light on the aspiration of other members of the party, who are also believed to be interested in seeking the presidential ticket.

Interestingly, the Makarfi was the first man who came out in the open to say that Atiku posed no threat to any of the presidential hopefuls on the platform of the PDP.

Although he has not formally signified interest in the race, Sunday Sun can authoritatively confirm that Makarfi will run.

Barely 72 hours to the PDP national convention, there had been reports in sections of the media insinuating Makarfi had interest in seeking to fly the PDP’s flag in 2019. Makarfi dismissed the insinuation in the media reports as not true.

In a statement signed on his behalf by his spokesman, Mukhtar Zubairu Sirajo, the former Kaduna State governor said: “The fact is that the senator was asked what threat the return of Atiku Abubakar to the party portends to the aspirations of others who had either made their intentions known or those, who, like him were rumoured to be nursing such ambition.

“His answer was that Atiku’s return would not, in any way adversely affect the rights of any member of the party to aspire to any position, adding that there were no preconditions to the return as Atiku Abubakar did not ask for, neither did the party offer any concessions to him beforehand.

“Senator Ahmed Makarfi wishes to assure the teeming members and supporters of the PDP and indeed the entire country that his own major preoccupation at the moment is to discharge the responsibility given to him to lead the process of repositioning the party, which he hopes will culminate in the conduct of a very credible and transparent convention. This is what matters the most to him at this moment.”

After the convention penultimate Saturday, sources close to him confirmed to Sunday Sun that he would indeed run and that he would make the intention known at the appropriate time.

Asked further if Makarfi does not feel threatened by Atiku’s return to the PDP, one of the sources said that there was no way Atiku could stop Makarfi’s ambition.

“He has always believed that power belongs to God. In 2007, when PDP governors rooted for him, but someone else was chosen, he fell in line like a good party man that he is and behaved as if nothing happened. He supported the person that was chosen because he believes you cannot get something by force. So he will go into the contest with the same disposition,” the source added. On his part former Jigawa State governor, Alhaji Sule Lamido, who has since notified party stakeholders and has visited former Nigerian leaders and consulted and still consulting with prominent Nigerians, including former defence minister, General TY Danjuma (retd), told Sunday Sun that if Allah says he would be the next president after President Muhammadu Buhari, nothing can change it.

Reacting through one of his aides, Kyari Jitau, the former governor noted that from day one he knew that he would not be the only one seeking the party’s ticket and was, therefore, prepared to compete with anyone.

“Recall the event of his meeting with state chairmen of the party. He said he knew others would also join in the race, but urged the stakeholders to ensure that they choose the best for the party and for the country.

“And at the risk of sounding immodest I don’t see anyone who is capable of constituting a threat to him in the party. Historically, he started politics before all of them. Therefore, ideologically, he stands out. We have seen what he can do with his experiment in Jigawa. That is why they refer to him as a good repairer. So we need him to help repair Nigeria.

“Like some analysts say, PDP needs someone who can break the votes in Kano and Kaduna axis. Alhaji Sule Lamido looks good to make that happen. He is a party man to the core. He’s got the political capacity and sagacity to turn the tide against the APC if given the opportunity by the party. So we leave everything to God and to the party. Only God gives power,” Kyari declared.

Former Kano State governor, Mallam Ibrahim Shekarau, said he was battle ready. And like others, he also said the ultimate decision rested with God.

Speaking through his media aide, Sule Ya’u Sule, the 2011 presidential candidate on the platform of the defunct All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP), said: “We are battle ready. We ran in 2003 for governorship, we had no money, but we won. We ran in 2007 for a second term, and despite the odds against us, God made it possible. We have run for the presidency before and so we are not threatened by Atiku’s return to the PDP. Ultimately it is the electorate that will decide. We rely on God and not anyone else. We are in the race, there is no going back,” he said.

Long before former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar defected to the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), he left no one in doubt that he was prepared to run for the presidency again in 2019.

Sunday Sun gathered that Atiku had sought to “seize” the structure of the party in the state to avoid a repeat of what happened to him in 2011 and 2015 at the PDP and APC presidential primaries respectively.

In 2011, Atiku lost Adamawa State delegates to the then President Goodluck Jonathan as Murtala Nyako, the then governor, ensured that all the delegates voted for Jonathan. Again in 2015, Atiku lost Adamawa delegates to his rivals. All these, it was further learnt, made him reason that once he had control of the party in the state, it would be easy to get their loyalty and votes.

Regardless, Atiku needs more than Adamawa delegates to pick the coveted PDP presidential ticket.

Real Reason Buhari Ordered Search For Oil In North – Ekweremadu
User Avatar Forum: Politics
Posted by: Edoman - 12-17-2017, 05:28 PM - No Replies

Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu has said that the fear of restructuring has led to the ‘desperate search’ for oil in the Lake Chad, Sokoto and River Benue basins.
The Deputy Senate President spoke at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, while presenting the third edition of the Adada Lecture Series, organised by the Association of Nsukka Professors.
The lawmaker’s paper was entitled ‘Restructuring and the Nigerian youth.’
He pointed out that oil revenue would soon lose its relevance as electric cars take over from petrol- and diesel- powered vehicles.
Ekweremadu said, “Some are afraid of survival under fiscal federalism. They feel they are better off with free monies from Abuja, which could actually be a pittance compared to what they could generate if they begin to access the bountiful wealth buried in their soils.
“I have also noticed a desperate search for oil in the Lake Chad, Sokoto, and Benue River basins in recent times, obviously spurred by the campaign for restructuring.
“But it is an unfounded fear. The days of oil are numbered. It is the least strategic wealth we have now. Many countries have found oil in large quantities, including those that used to patronise us for oil. Importantly, many nations are already phasing out petrol and diesel engines.
“In July 2017, the United Kingdom announced plans to stop the production of petrol- and gas- powered cars from 2040 . France has also unveiled plans to ban the sale of petrol and diesel cars from 2040.
“Norway has strong policy actions to ensure that zero fossil fuel cars are sold in the country by 2025.
“With the second highest concentration of electric cars in Europe, Netherlands is already targeting an emission – free environment by 2030 , which automatically rules out petrol- and diesel-powered cars.
“In fact, Netherlands wants at least 200,000 electric cars on her roads by the year 2020, which is only two years from now.”

Nigerian veteran reggae music maestro, Majekodunmi Fasheke, popularly known as ‘Majek Fashek’, has declared that if given the chance to be Nigeria’s President, he’ll do better than President Muhammadu Buhari.

The Send Down the Rain’ crooner, boldly condemned Buhari’s government, boasting that he would be a better president come 2019 when he vies for the presidential seat.

Fashek pointed out that Nigerians were going through untold poverty, a situation he can remedy if elected Nigerian President.

“I will do better than our current people in government; the Nigerian situation is very bad, the people are suffering, companies are folding up; people are living like slaves in Nigeria because the government has failed us.

“Nigerian children should be taken care of, not just by their parents but by the government because they are the leaders of tomorrow. Education, healthcare and food should be a priority.

“If government will concentrate on that within a year or six months, there will be transformation”, he said. Speaking further, he lamented the deplorable socio-economic condition of the nation.

“Nigerians are dying of hunger, our girls are on the streets hustling, most girls are turning to prostitution, and this is no joke. If your family member is not a senator, house of reps member, governor or president then you are facing the music.

“People are suffering, including musicians and it is not good. So, if the current people there don’t know what they are doing I will be there soonest and put the youth and right people in place to handle situations because no Nigerian should be dying in Libya.

“For those who may be quick to say he is not fit to steer the presidential ship of the nation, he has answers for them.

“Some may want to say I’m not mentally okay, but I’m very okay and medically fit, with a good message for Nigerians both in my music and intentions.”

Southern Senators ‘Attack’ Northern Colleagues Over 2014 Confab Report
User Avatar Forum: Politics
Posted by: Edoman - 12-17-2017, 01:45 PM - No Replies

South South Senators’ Forum, SSF, on Saturday berated their counterparts from the Northern part of the country over their position on the 2014 confab report.

SSF described the call by the Northern Senators’ Forum, NSF, that President Muhammadu Buhari should ignore the 2014 Confab report as a product of confusion and ignorance.

Recall that the Chairman of NSF, Senator Abdullahi Adamu, had last week said it was unfair for their Southern counterparts to ask the President to implement the report.

Speaking at a retreat of Northern senators in Katsina, Adamu had said Buhari should not implement the report because he was not part of it.

It also described the argument of the Northern Senators that since the President was not part of the Confab, he would not implement it, as laughable.

Reacting to the position of the North, SSF Chairman, Hope Uzodinma maintained that the report was drawn from papers submitted by eminent Nigerians.

In a statement he personally signed, Uzodinma said, ‘’Adamu’s (Chairman of Northern Senators Forum) action and utterance smack of a town Union President who out of zealotry to protect his union and who erroneously sees the President of the country as a member of his union embarks on an indecent haste to speak for the President all in the name of protecting his Town Union.

“The communiqué by Southern Senators Forum merely asked President Buhari to convene a meeting of governors and the leadership of the National and state assemblies to consider the report and forward to the National Assembly for debate.

“I wonder why Adamu should be in a hurry to defend a President who has not complained about the communiqué. Has Adamu forgotten that the President’s party and his party too, the APC, promised to restructure in their manifesto?

“Even Adamu admitted that the 2014 conference report treated restructuring extensively. What is wrong in asking the President whose party promised restructuring to consider sending a restructuring report to the National Assembly?

“Let me inform my colleague that Southern Senators met in Calabar on a well-planned retreat on how to deepen national unity through devolution of powers.

“It appears that in Adamu’s indecent haste to attack our retreat he ended up holding one that had only sectional interest, and not national interest as a theme, including how to extend the oversight functions of senators to the implementation of the 2018 budget in the Northern states.

“This inability to distinguish between the roles of the legislature from that of the executive is the height of confusion and ignorance’s and it is truly unfortunate.”

Things Have Been Very Difficult Under Buhari – Orji Kalu Admits

Former Abia State governor, Orji Uzor Kalu has admitted that things are very difficult under the present administration of President Muhammadu Buhari.

The former governor, however, stated that it was normal since president Buhari is slowly taking Nigerians to the promised land.

Kalu said Buhari has good intentions for Nigeria and called on all Nigerians across religious, ethnic and political divides to support the president for greater success.

The APC chieftain spoke to journalists at the Funeral ceremony of Chief James Babatunde, a fellow of the Nigerian Institute of Town Planners.

“Things have been very difficult, I agree. But my grandmother used to tell me that when a tailor gets a brand new cloth, he has to first cut it into pieces, then make it into a very fine dress.

“That is where we are today. Everybody must be crying, we’ll get it (the nation) back on course.

“We are heading to the Promised Land. Buhari is leading us to the Promised Land, but people don’t understand. There are two types of components that make democratic process – the hardware and the software.

“The hardware is what you see, such as road construction and reconstruction. The software is obedience to rule of law, accessibility to people’s mind, obedience to court order, making sure that court of competent jurisdiction’s orders are respected, and making sure that everything done in the law is totally agreeable.

“Our problem in Nigeria is very simple. People are not obeying traffic lights. Big people don’t want to obey simple rule; ‘do not cross this line’, this is the problem the country has. This is what Buhari is saying, that, ‘no, you cannot do without due process.’

“Buhari is trying to say to Nigerian people that, ‘yes I might be slow, but we have to go through a process which is internationally acceptable’. So, we are on course,” he said.

The United States Government has explained why it has been silence over an allegation by a former vice president, Atiku Abubakar, that President Muhammadu Buhari was barred from entering the US for 15 years.
Speaking through Nick Sadoski, an official of the Department of State, the American Government said it would also not discuss the reasons Atiku is being denied entry into the US.
Two weeks ago, Atiku, in an interview with The Boss magazine, disclosed that the US had barred Buhari from the US for 15 years due to his religious beliefs.
The Presidency had issued a statement, debunking Atiku’s claim.
Sadoski told Punch, “Due to US privacy laws, visa cases are considered confidential. We do not discuss specific cases.
“Unfortunately, I don’t have anything further to add at this time.
“Regarding questions about visas, due to US privacy laws, visa cases are considered confidential and we do not discuss private cases.”

RHAPSODY OF REALITIES

SUNDAY, 17TH DECEMBER.

Pastor Chris

TOPIC ✨ CELEBRATE HIS GOODNESS✨

Give unto the LORD the glory due unto his name: bring an offering, and come before him: worship the LORD in the beauty of holiness (1 Chronicles 16:29).

As the year 2017 draws to a fruitful end, it’s important that we make out time to thank God for His mighty blessings in our lives. Make today a special day of rejoicing, expressing profuse gratitude to the Lord for His blessings throughout 2017.

There’re four important ways you’re to celebrate and thank the Lord today. First is through your prayer of thanksgiving; express yourself to Him with thanksgiving from your heart. Secondly, worship and praise Him profusely and ecstatically from your spirit. Thirdly, celebrate Him with your testimony—your testimony of thanksgiving. Testify of what He’s done in your life; eulogize Him for the joy of the Spirit that’s in your heart. Thank Him for the foundation of your spirit; the foundation of faith that God gave you. Celebrate the hope, and other blessings in your spirit.

Lastly, celebrate Him with an offering. We worship God with our offerings because He’s God. Your offering to God is an oblation, a testimony of your faith in Him. Give the Lord a special thanksgiving offering today, and project yourself into the greater future He’s planned for you.

Choose certain times or hours of the day to have celebration sessions alone or with your family. Make it an entire day of celebration, because you’re grateful for all that Christ is to you; you acknowledge and appreciate His grace at work in you.

Don’t spend time thinking about some unattained goals or “disappointments” you may have experienced in the year. Rather, celebrate Jesus, trusting that He’s already perfected all that concerns you. Rejoice! Shout and dance around in your room, glorifying the Name of Jesus. Celebrate His life that’s in you. Celebrate His Word that’s working mightily in you. Celebrate the prosperity, health, peace, joy, victories and life of glory that God has given you.

PRAYER
Thank you precious Father, for your blessings upon my life, my family, and everything that concerns me; you’ve decorated my life with your glory. You plucked me out of trouble and satisfied my desires with good things; for these, I rejoice and adore your majesty. All glory, dominion and praise are yours, now and forever, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.

FURTHER STUDY:
Psalm 103:1-2 Bless the LORD, O my soul: and all that is within me, [bless] his holy name. 2 Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits:

Psalm 96:8 Give unto the LORD the glory [due unto] his name: bring an offering, and come into his courts.

Hebrews 13:15 By him therefore let us offer the sacrifice of praise to God continually, that is, the fruit of [our] lips giving thanks to his name.

Edo based musician, Osayomore Joseph, who was recently freed by kidnappers, has narrated his experience and said he paid a huge ransom.
“I paid huge ransom before I was released by my abductors after 30 days in captivity,” he told the News Agency of Nigeria on Friday in Benin.

Osayomore was kidnapped on Oct. 4 and eventually released to his family on November 4.The popular musician said that his wife was shot by his abductors before they zoomed-off with him into a forest, bordering a creek, after travelling on the high sea.

He said the trauma he suffered during his 30-day abduction was not an experience he wanted to remember.

The said that he had packaged his experience in his new album titled “30 days and 30 nights in the evil forest”.

According to him, I was dragged through the forest close to Gelegele and taken in a boat to a creek.

Osayomore said, “I have never stepped into a boat before. The speed boat on the high sea is enough to give me high blood pressure.

“The kidnappers called themselves forest soldiers. Those who came to kidnap me did not know me.

“It was when I got to the creek that some learned ones started singing my old songs. They did not know that I started fighting before they were born.

“They may have overestimated me that I am very rich. They collected money from me.will not mention the amount, but it is colossal. That will not deter me from doing what I know how to do best.”

He added, “I did not know I will come back alive. I later know I will not die there when they started asking for money.

“The ransom was collected on the high sea. They called the boat that brought the ransom money Freedom Boat. I was on an Evil Boat

“After they brought the bags containing huge sums of money, the kidnappers checked them and that was how I came back.

  Buhari at 75

Let me begin by telling a story. On June 1, 2015, the day I resumed work as adviser on media to President Muhammadu Buhari, he had admonished me, “Adesina, always tell me the truth. That is what I want from you. In this type of position I have found myself, it is very easy not to be told the truth. People will just tell you what they think you want to hear. But from you, I want the truth. As a General, I may argue, but please argue with me. Tell me the truth always.”

Based on that blank cheque I’d been given, I went to the residence one evening last year to see the President. That was the time there was deafening talk of hunger from different parts of the country. I wanted to be sure that the talk was not being filtered from the President. Of course, I know him as somebody who reads newspapers religiously, and wherever we are in the face of the world, he asks for media highlights from Nigeria. So, he would not be unaware of what Nigerians were going through. But I still wanted to raise it with him.

“Mr. President, there is hunger in the land, and people are complaining. I know government is doing its best, but I just want you to be aware,” I said.

Mr. President responded: “I know, I know. I am aware of what people are going through. I have people in my own constituency back home, and I know the messages they send to me. But it is a passing phase. Our country was vandalised, and we found ourselves in this problem. But now that we are here, we will do our best. We will bring change to this country, and we are already seeing it in agriculture. This period of hunger will pass.”

It was prophetic. The season of hunger will pass, and is indeed passing. Anyone that is honest will admit that things are looking up in Nigeria. The ravening clouds shall no longer be victorious. They shall not long possess the sky, as expressed by Walt Whitman.I went away with one conviction from that night’s meeting: the poor matter very much to this President. He is not the type that people would tell they had no bread to eat, and he would tell them to eat cake instead. This is a friend of the talakawas, a man who loves ordinary people, and who wants their station in life to be improved. And those people know it. That is why they gravitate towards him, and repose so much confidence in him. He is their hero. Our hero.

President Buhari turns 75 years today. But some six months back, how many could confidently say this day would come for the ramrod straight man from Daura? How many believed the President would come out of the severe medical challenge that had confronted him? It all began as a routine vacation cum medical checkup in January, and few days after, the rumour mill was on overdrive. The challenge lasted till August, before the President returned home finally, and since then, he has been looking better by the day. Each time you now see him, there is a fresher glow, and you cannot but give glory to God on his behalf.

But why was President Buhari kept alive, so much so that he is turning 75 today? Why did he pass through the sea of infirmity, and he was not swept away? Why did he pass through inferno, and the fire did not kindle against him? Big question. I don’t have the answer, but I can hazard some guesses, based on divine principles.

Rigobert Song. Remember him? Song was the Cameroonian defender who played many years for the Indomitable Lions. He appeared at eight African Nations Cup tournaments, five as captain, and stood between Nigeria and victory many times. He became an idol, venerated by his countrymen and women. He retired to become a coach.

Then late last year, Song was not on song again on the soccer pitch. He had a near death experience on October 20. He went down with brain aneurysm, and was in a coma for two days. Doctors battled to save his life, and he was eventually evacuated to France.
While the travails lasted, the social media was abuzz with news of Song’s passage. As someone who had followed his career over the years, I felt very sad. But this is the season of fake news. Song was not dead, he miraculously rallied back. He narrated his experience, which I found instructive, considering what our President also passed through:

“I did not know what was happening to me…I did not even know I was fighting between life and death… Everyone was praying, asking, ‘God, please don’t do that, don’t take Rigobert.’ I say thank you everybody for making me come back.”

What song was Song singing? One of thanksgiving. Cameroonians who loved him bombarded God with prayers, ‘Please, don’t take Rigobert now.’ And God heard. He showed mercy.

That is the same reason President Buhari is alive today. Nigerians bombarded Heaven with prayers. With supplications, intercessions and pleas for mercy. Muslims prayed in mosques. Christians prayed in churches. President Alpha Conde of Guinea declared 24 hours prayer for his Nigerian counterpart. Prayers were going on everywhere, both at home, and in the Diaspora. I can imagine God telling Himself: ‘I must answer these prayers. These petitions are too many. I must answer.’

And God had mercy, a fact attested to by President Buhari himself. He said his return was a miracle, which only God could have done.

President Buhari is concerned about Nigerians, particularly the helpless, the ordinary people, and he has dedicated his life to serving them. And when he was near unto death, those ordinary people besieged Heaven with prayers. That Christian hymn says “dearer to God are the prayers of the poor.” And God truly answered.

There is power in goodwill, we have seen it work. It worked for Song, and it has worked for our President. Have a heart for men, particularly for the poor, the lowly, and the downtrodden. And see God rise on your behalf.

In his New Year message last year, President Buhari told the country: “Living in the State House has not alienated me from your daily sufferings. These challenges are only temporary, we are working to make things better.”

When news came a couple of months ago that Nigeria had exited from recession, what did the President say? “Until coming out of recession translates into meaningful improvement in peoples’ lives, our work cannot be said to be done.”

In another broadcast, the President had stated: “All my adult life, I have always earned a salary and I know what it is like when your salary is simply not enough.”

That is the man we follow, and serve. Millions would today follow him into battle blindfolded. Millions upon millions would vote him again and again, if he throws his hat into the ring. Happy birthday, Mr President. You have shown us how to care for the lowly and the poor, how to bear them in our hearts at all times, and how such pleases God, and brings mercy our way. Thank you for coming this way, thank you for offering yourself for service.

How, Why We Created SARS - Ex-igp Mike Okiro

How, why we created SARS - Ex-IGP Mike Okiro
By Abdulkareem Baba Aminu, Umoru Faruk Salifu & Nathaniel Bivan
Former Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Mike Mbama Okiro, is currently Chairman, Police Service Commission. In the following interview, he spoke about the controversies swirling round the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) of the Nigeria Police, the state of security in the nation, and more. Excerpts:
Daily Trust: There is controversy over the activities of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad of the Nigeria Police (SARS), mostly on the conduct of operatives. Some people have even called for its scrap. How do you think the matter should be handled?
Mike Okiro: This issue of SARS is dogged by what I call ‘policy somersault’. A government official, or a government makes a policy and another government comes and changes the policy or abandons it. This is what is causing it.
SARS started with me as the Deputy Commissioner of Police Operations in Ikeja, Lagos, when the infamous armed robber called Shina Rambo was having a field day in 1991. His modus operandi was to snatch cars and begin a shooting spree in a convoy of gunmen. He was so brazen that he even shot at policemen at checkpoints. There was no way to stop him. So, I and the then commissioner, Ademola, came up with the Special Anti-Robbery Squad.
The idea was that they would be in mufti, and armed, simply for the very important element of surprise. They would take cover, and communicating with walkie-talkies, hit the armed robbers. They did that two or three times, and the robbery attacks went down, drastically, and at a point stopped altogether. Soon SARS started spreading, from Lagos to other states. And I began to notice that at every roadblock, you will see armed policemen, but in mufti. Now, how do you differentiate between a policeman and an armed robber?
The initial idea of the operatives wearing mufti, like I said, is for the element of surprise. So I’d say the original idea of SARS has been bastardised. The squad was feared before, and I mean by criminals. When there was a robbery in a bank, SARS would move there because they were trained. They also knew themselves because there was nothing like cross-firing. Every command had SARS standing by.
But by the time it spread to other states, it seemed like anyone would be carrying arms, dressed in mufti, with a T-shirt with SARS emblazoned on it. Anybody can wear such an outfit. They even go into cases of bounced cheques and shady business transactions. SARS business is not to investigate, but to hit. It’s a Special Anti-Robbery Squad, not an investigative one.
DT: There’s a call that started from social media, and spilled over to actual protests to scrap SARS. What is your take?
Okiro: We cannot throw away the bathwater with the baby. It cannot be scrapped, rather there is the need to get back to its original concept, to hit robbers and come back. Sometimes robbers take position, waiting for police patrol vehicles to come, not knowing that SARS are passing in a private vehicle.
SARS needs to be restructured and not scrapped completely. The police is meant to fight crime, they should be allowed to do their jobs in the most effective way. If they are deviating from the concept, they should be called back on the right track. Ending SARS is like the police stopping their fight against robbers.
DT: Another issue that seems to have refused to go away is that of kidnapping, especially on the Abuja-Kaduna highway. Do you think, with an effective SARS, kidnappings can be curbed?
Okiro: Yes, I believe it can. This takes me back to when I was Commissioner of Police in Lagos, when robberies were carried out in road traffic, and robbers with guns or knives went car-to-car. I couldn’t cover the whole length and breadth of Lagos roads, it wasn’t possible. We went back to the drawing board and got some vehicles with policemen dressed in veils, but armed. After we countered the robberies several times, they stopped. Like I said, earlier, the efficiency of SARS relies on the element of surprise. However, I repeat: It should not be involved in investigations.
DT: How do you feel about the non-passage of the Nigeria Police Force Reform Trust Fund Bill?
Okiro: I feel sad, as the passage of the bill is supposed to prepare the police more and then create an avenue for its funding. The federal government is not capable of funding the police completely, because if the revenue is lean, ou have to cut your coat according to your cloth. The federal government cannot give all it has to the police, as there are other areas that need attention.
But right now the police is not properly funded. Initially, that bill was supposed to create an avenue through which there would be direct funding. If the police force cannot even take care of itself, how can it take care of other people? So, there’s a need for funding, and that can be addressed and solved by the Police Force Reform Trust Fund Bill.

CBN Data Proves Amaechi Lied Against Johnathan On ECA

The Minister of Transport, Rotimi Amaechi, on Saturday said former President Olusegun Obasanjo left $65 in Nigeria’s excess crude account.
“When Obasanjo was leaving, he left about $65 billion dollars in the excess crude account, but this money was frittered away and we wonder where the money is,” the Minister of Transport said on the sidelines of the Future Awards in Lagos Saturday.
But is he correct?
In 2004, Mr. Obasanjo (in office from 1999-2007) set up the excess crude account to save oil revenues above the budget benchmark for crude oil price. The account belongs to all the three tiers of government and withdrawals can only be made when all the tiers agree.
Since then, excess crude earnings have been deposited in the account in dollars.
Details of how the three tiers of government shared from the excess crude account under Mr. Obasanjo are not immediately available, but around the time he left office, the account held less than $10 billion.
As at April 25, 2007, barely a month before Mr. Obasanjo left office, the excess crude savings stood at $9.5 billion, according to the Central Bank of Nigeria.
But upon inauguration which was followed by a global recession, the Yar’Adua administration was compelled to make withdrawals from the account to shore up the economy.
Both Yar’Adua and Jonathan administrations oversaw a series of withdrawals for sharing amongst the three tiers —with Mr. Jonathan leaving it at only $2.07 billion— but at no time in its 13-year history did the excess crude account rise to $65 billion.
Even the foreign reserves stood at about $43 billion when Mr. Obasanjo left office, according to the CBN in the link referenced above.
Similarly, crude oil did not sell at $140 per barrel under Mr. Jonathan. It only got that high under Mr. Yar’Adua before it started crashing in 2008, according to trading data.
Based on the data, the maximum oil sale in a day under President Jonathan was $113.39 on April 29, 2011. Mr. Jonathan was in office from May 2010 to May 2015.
Conclusion:
Mr. Amaechi said Mr. Obasanjo left $65 billion that was later squandered by his successor(s).
PREMIUM TIMES reached out to his spokesperson, David Iyofor, for the source of his principal’s claim, but he did not respond.
The Nigerian Bureau of Statistics does not keep data for the excess crude account, this leaves us with the CBN as the only government body to rely on.
And based on the records of the CBN, we rule the $65 billion figure given by Mr. Amaechi as false.

Israeli officers dressed as Palestinians, some with Palestinian flags, infiltrated a demonstration in the West Bank, before opening fire with pistols and throwing smoke grenades at the protesters.
Some 400 Palestinians took part in a rally in the West Bank city of Ramallah on Wednesday, according to Israeli media. AFP news agency reporters, who also managed to film the events, cited lower numbers, saying up to 150 Palestinians were protesting near the Beit El military checkpoint.
The demonstrators were throwing stones at Israeli security forces and burning tires to protest Washington's recognition of Jerusalem as Israel's capital. At one point, several men among them, wearing traditional Arabic kufiya scarves and a Palestinian flag wrapped around the head, revealed themselves as Israeli law enforcement.
Having pulled out pistols and throwing smoke grenades, they captured several Palestinian protesters. At least three Palestinians were arrested, Jerusalem Post reported citing the IDF (Israel Defense Forces) spokesperson's unit. One of the protesters was fired at his lower body, the report added, saying that "the IDF and security forces will continue to act" against Palestinian demonstrators.

North Korea Vows Retaliation Over US Sea Blockade
[Image: North%2BKorea%2Bvows%2Bretaliation%2Bove...ockade.jpg]
North Korea warned the United States any imposition of a maritime blockade would be an act of war that would push the current standoff towards nuclear confrontation.

Discussion of a possible American sea blockade off the Korean Peninsula has emerged in media reports and academic circles in recent weeks, further ratcheting up tensions between Washington and Pyongyang.

The threat of nuclear war between the arch enemies has grown more real since US President Donald Trump took office in January. He has threatened to "totally destroy" North Korea - demanding it surrender its nuclear and missile programmes.

Pyongyang has balked at the demand saying it needs a functioning "state nuclear force" to prevent "invasion and plunder" by the United States, which has 28,500 troops stationed in neighbouring South Korea, a legacy of the 1950-53 Korean War.

"The gang of Trump … is driving the situation on the Korean Peninsula more and more close to the brink of war, acting recklessly without any sense of reason," the official Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) said in a Thursday report.

North Korea: US-South Korea naval exercises a rehearsal for war
"A naval blockade is an act of wanton violation of the sovereignty and dignity of an independent state, and an act of war of aggression which cannot be tolerated."

On Friday, US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson will chair a special meeting of the UN Security Council to discuss North Korea's nuclear and missile programmes.

KCNA described the meeting as a "desperate measure plotted by the US".

In an unusual step towards diplomacy, Tillerson on Wednesday said the US was ready to sit down and talk about the North's denuclearisation "without preconditions".

However, US National Security Adviser HR McMaster later dismissed Tillerson's proposal, suggesting reporting on the secretary of state's comments was incorrect.

On Thursday, Russian President Vladimir Putin praised Tillerson's overture towards North Korea's Supreme Leader Kim Jong-un.

"This is a very good sign that shows that the American leadership is moving towards an awareness of reality," Putin said during a press conference in Moscow.

"We believe that both sides need to stop aggravating the situation. North Korea is a closed country. It's enough for one firing [of a missile] from North Korea and the consequences will be catastrophic."

Putin said Pyongyang feels threatened by Washington and "sees no other way for survival other than developing weapons of mass destruction".

North Korea tested its most advanced intercontinental ballistic missile on November 29, which it said could put all of the United States within range.

For its part, the US has said "all options were on the table" in dealing with North Korea, including military action.

China and the United Nations also weighed in on the intensifying dispute on Thursday.

Chinese President Xi Jinping said war cannot be started over the nuclear stalemate.

"The peninsula issue must, in the end, be resolved via dialogue and consultation," Xi was quoted as saying by state media.

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said Friday's Security Council would highlight the need for diplomacy to resolve the issue.

"The worst possible thing that could happen is for us all to sleepwalk into a war," said Guterres.

Fertility Doctor Who Uses His Own Sperm To Secretly Impregnate Patients Avoids Jail
[Image: Untitled%2B%25283%2529.png]
Indiana fertility doctor who uses his own sperm on dozens of patients without their consent won't face jail time as part of a plea deal.
Dr. Donald Cline, 77, is accused of fathering at least eight children with different women who came to his office in the 1970s and '80s for fertility treatment. It's believed that he could have more than 20 children, Fox 59 reports.
Cline, who is now retired, appeared in court on Thursday to plead guilty to lying to investigators. He wasn't charged with impregnating the women with his sperm because there is no state law against it.Suspicion into the former practitioner began in 2015 when one of the children found eight DNA matches after taking a test through the genetics company, 23AndMe, which referred the person to Cline's Indianapolis clinic.
Because "live" sperm was being used at that time - instead of frozen samples - questions were raised about who would have been around each time to father that many kids. When the disgraced doctor was first approached by investigators, he denied using his own samples.
DNA evidence, however, proved otherwise and Cline admitted to using his sperm whenever the donor was unavailable.
Prosecutors said he used his sample up to 50 times.

Majek Fashek hopes to do better than the present administration
User Avatar Forum: Politics
Posted by: trustangel - 12-16-2017, 02:38 PM - No Replies

Since his return to the Nigerian music space, veteran reggae music maestro, Majekodunmi Fasheke, popularly known as ‘Majek Fashek’, seems to be hell bent on reclaiming his place as the godfather on the music scene.

Little wonder in a recent exclusive chat with Showtime, he boldly condemned Buhari’s government, boasting that he would be a better president come 2019 when he vies for the presidential seat. I will do better than our current people in government; the Nigerian situation is very bad, the people are suffering, companies are folding up; people are living like slaves in Nigeria because the government has failed us. Nigerian children should be taken care of, not just by their parents but by the government because they are the leaders of tomorrow. Education, healthcare and food should be a priority. If government will concentrate on that within a year or six months, there will be transformation”, he said.

People are suffering, including musicians and it is not good. So, if the current people there don’t know what they are doing I will be there soonest and put the youth and right people in place to handle situations because no Nigerian should be dying in Libya.”

For those who may be quick to say he is not fit to steer the presidential ship of the nation, he has answers for them.

“Some may want to say I’m not mentally okay, but I’m very okay and medically fit, with a good message for Nigerians both in my music and intentions.”
