IGP Vs Saraki: What Buhari Told Senators
User Avatar Forum: Politics

Quote:By Ismail Mudashir

President Muhammadu Buhari in clear terms told senators who went to seek his intervention over the face-off between the Senate President, Bukola Saraki and the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, that all public officers should be allowed to perform their duties in line with the law.

Sources told Daily Trust that the president who spoke to the senators for only about five minutes said he was firm about his belief that public institutions should be allowed to function without interference from any quarter.

A delegation from the Senate on Tuesday met with the president at the Presidential Villa over the outcry by Saraki that the IGP had transferred some suspected cultists being interrogated in Kwara State to Abuja to frame him up.

The Senate leader, Ahmad Lawan (APC,Yobe) who led the delegation, told newsmen at the end of the meeting that the president said he had taken note and would to take appropriate action on the matter.

The sources said though the delegation spent about an hour speaking on their mission, the president’s response lasted only about five minutes.

Daily Trust gathered that the salient point of the president’s response was his resolution not to interfere on the responsibilities of other arms and that the executive should be allowed to function based on the rule of law.

The president, one of the sources said, told the delegation of how interference by the executive arm in previous administrations undermined the judiciary.

A source said the president who spoke about his experiences in courts over election matters, said he does not interfere in the activities of any other arm of government.

“However, he told us on this one he would see what he can do,” a source who attended meeting said.

A lawmaker said the reception by the president was an indication that the message they went with was well received.

“In parliamentary parlance, the message was well received. After the meeting we spent about 30 minutes exchanging pleasantries and handshakes with the president.

This is to tell you that the mission was accomplished. Otherwise, immediately after the meeting, he (the president) would just return without waiting for photos and what have you,” he said.

Another source said the president told the lawmakers that he does not dabble on any issue that is in court.

“It wasn’t a successful outing for our colleagues, otherwise why would the president only say he had taken note and that he does not interfere on investigation. It is only the guilty that is afraid. If not, the burden of proof is on the prosecution.

Nobody is above the law and nobody should be above it, “ the ranking lawmaker said.

He said the main cause of the face-off was
that: “He (Saraki) wants to be giving orders to the IGP like the president, and that cannot be possible.”

It would be recalled that a member of the delegation, Senator Abdullahi Adamu, told newsmen after the meeting that the row between Saraki and the IGP was about politics.

Adamu, a former governor of Nasarawa State, said there was no need for them to meet with the president on the issue since a senior police officer in Kwara State had said Saraki’s name was not mentioned.

Tuesday’s meeting was the second time the issue of the IGP and the Senate were taken to the president. On May 7, Saraki and the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, met with the president over the refusal of the IGP to appear before the Senate.

Trice, the IGP who was summoned over the arrest of Senator Dino Melaye (APC,Kogi) and killings in parts of the country, had snubbed the Senate. On Wednesday, a day after the meeting of the senate delegation with Buhari, the IGP repeated same when the security chiefs appeared before the Senate at plenary.

The police chief was represented by the Deputy Inspector General of Police (Operations), Habila Joshak. Unlike previous occasions when Joshak was sent back when he represented the IGP, he was allowed to participate in the security chiefs meeting with the Senate on Wednesday.

How IGP- Senate face-off started

The trouble between the IGP and the Senate started last year when he had a running battle with Senator Isah Hamma Misau (APC,Bauchi) over alleged corruption in the police force.
Misau, a retired police officer and the IGP engaged in a war of words that led to the institution of legal actions.

A panel of the Senate probing the matter summoned the IGP but after several uproars, he appeared but declined to speak, saying the matter was before the country.

It was before that could settle down that the issue of Senator Dino Melaye (APC,Kogi) started. Enraged by the way and manner Melaye was treated, the Senate summoned the IGP.

Melaye and Misau are among the top diehard loyalists of Saraki at the Senate. Melaye aside being the one who seconded the motion for the nomination of Saraki as the Senate President on June 9, 2015 when the National Assembly was inaugurated, he is regarded as a “Saraki boy” by his colleagues in the Upper chamber.

The refusal of the IGP to honor the invitation led the Senate to declare him as an enemy of democracy and unfit to hold public office in Nigeria and abroad.

As the issues of Misau and Melaye were trending, Saraki himself raised an alarm that the IGP was plotting to frame him up over the Senate’s declaration that he (IGP) was an enemy of democracy.

Saraki said: “In my own view, this plot is an act of desperation, blackmail, intimidation, abuse of office and crude tactics aimed at turning our country into a police state where top officials cannot be made to obey the law, follow due process and subject themselves to constituted authorities”.

On the same day Saraki raised the alarm, the Deputy Minority Leader, Emmanuel Bwacha (PDP, Taraba) narrated how policemen were withdrawn from him while travelling to Jos over his remark on the IGP on the floor of the Senate.

He told his colleagues: “I was travelling from Abuja to Jos with policemen I requested legitimately through a route that is notorious for kidnapping and killings. While getting to Jos, the commander of the mobile police called them and said, ‘withdraw from him and go to the nearest police station’.

“They told me that they needed to withdraw, that they had the instruction to leave me alone. I stopped there because I was afraid, I decided to let them leave so that they won’t know where I would lodge.

So, I left them. They went to the nearest police station, abandoned me there. The next day, I managed to drive back to Abuja in fear.

AfDB disburses $7.81bn to African countries, highest ever

[Image: 2017_11$largeimg26_Nov_2017_235209310.jpg]
The African Development Bank, under the leadership of its president, Akinwumi Adesina, has increased disbursements to support the structural transformation of countries in Africa, according to its annual report, released during the Annual Meetings in Busan, Korea.

Bank disbursements reached US $7.81 billion in 2017, a 15% percent increase over 2016 and the highest on record for the bank. This increase was driven, to a large extent, by the 42% increase in project loan and grant disbursements, which reflect in part, improved portfolio management.

The bank approved 249 operations amounting to US $8.93 billion. This was reflected in its core financing, disbursements, operational strategies and portfolio management.

Adesina indicated that this “reflected a 56% increase in disbursements for non-sovereign operations. A clear sign of the bank group’s increasing engagement with Africa’s private sector. Non-sovereign operations accounted for 38% of African Development Bank approvals, the highest on record.”

While the bank’s net operating income declined between 2014 and 2015, it has turned around rapidly.

“The bank group also continued to grow its income. Net operating income increased in 2017 to US $817.69 million, up from US $631.08 million in 2016, a 29.6% increase and the highest since 2009,” Adesina said, adding that, “the bank also consolidated its position as Africa’s leading knowledge institution by taking full leadership responsibility for the publication of a key flagship- the African Economic Outlook.”

The bank is stepping up the pace by focusing on five priorities that are crucial for accelerating Africa’s economic transformation. The “High 5s” include Light up and power Africa, Feed Africa, Industrialize Africa, Integrate Africa, and Improve the quality of life for the people of Africa.

These High 5s guide the bank’s operations to deliver critical development impacts in Africa. For example, once completed, power generation projects approved in 2017 will install 1,400MW of new renewable energy capacity.

Light up and power Africa provided 4.4 million people with electricity. Feed Africa provided 8.5 million people with improved agricultural technologies.

We’ve lost 200 people, 8,570 houses to herdsmen attacks in Nasarawa –Tiv
Published May 26, 2018

Umar Muhammed, Lafia
The President of the Tiv Development Association, Nasarawa State, Mr. Boniface Ifer, said the union had so far lost 200 farmers and 8,570 houses to persistent herdsmen attacks in the southern district of the state.
Ifer said this during a town hall meeting with Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo during his recent visit to the state to assess the crisis.

He further stated that killings were still ongoing in Tiv communities by suspected Fulani herdsmen.
He called on the Federal Government to provide adequate security so as to enable the displaced persons to return to their homes and continue their farming business now that the rainy season had started.
On his part, the Chairman of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association, Nasarawa State, Alhaji Husseini Mohammed, said that 60 Fulani people and thousands of cows had also been killed by the Tiv militia from Benue State.
He, however, asked for the establishment of cattle colonies across the state, adding that doing so would go a long way in bringing to an end the herdsmen-farmers crisis.
Mohammed appealed to the Federal Government to rehabilitate the victims affected by the crisis.
Earlier, Osinbajo said the Federal Government was committed to securing the lives and property of all citizens in the country.
He said the government was concerned about returning the displaced persons to their homes so that they could continue their business and send their children back to school.

EFCC Begins Probe Of Suspects In Obasanjo’s $16bn Electricity Deal
User Avatar Forum: Politics
Posted by: Edoman - 05-26-2018, 10:43 AM - No Replies

Following representations made by some civil society groups, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has set machinery in motion to probe the controversy surrounding the $16 billion allegedly spent on power projects during the administration of former President Olusegun Obasanjo.

The anti-graft agency may invite two ex-ministers, former top officials of the defunct Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN), present and past officials of the Niger Delta Power Holding Company and all the people recommended for investigation by a committee of the House of Representatives.

A team in EFCC was already collating facts and figures at press time yesterday.

But a top source, who spoke in confidence, said the move was not targeted at ex-President Obasanjo.

According to findings by our correspondent, the EFCC might conduct a forensic and comprehensive investigation into the alleged $16 billion power projects.

The scope of the investigation includes the total cost of the projects, how much was withdrawn from the Excess Crude Account (ECA), the total number of contracts awarded, the extent of compliance with due process and the status of the execution of all the projects.

A top source, who spoke in confidence yesterday, said: “We are looking into all the allegations and issues surrounding the power projects.

“We will conduct a comprehensive and forensic probe to ascertain the true status of all the projects.

“This investigation will actually ascertain how much has been spent so far.

“We have many figures being bandied about as follows: $16 billion, $13.278 billion, $10.3 billion, $8.4 billion and $8.55 billion.

“This is not an investigation aimed at ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo or anybody. We have to step in to set the records straight.

“Already, a team is collating facts and figures on these projects as part of the preliminary level/ bend of the investigation.”

Responding to a question, the source added: “We will retrieve the report of the House of Representatives Committee which investigated the power projects.

“The House actually recommended 18 top former public officers, including two ex-ministers, for investigation by anti-graft agencies, especially EFCC and ICPC.

“Many salient issues were raised for investigation by the House

Committee, which was headed by Hon. Ndudi Elumelu.”

The issues raised by the Elumelu Committee were as follows:

All NIPP payments were made without following due process

No meaningful progress was made in the execution of power contracts

Officials rushed to pay contractors in full even before engineering design for the projects have been completed and approved

NIPP contracts were not only overpriced in comparison with PHCN contracts, they were also wide off the mark

Widespread evidence of systematic over-scoping of projects in order to inflate costs both in PHCN and NIPP

NIPP Distribution EPC contracts were awarded at costs averaging about 10 times the norm when compared to PHCN contracts.

The Ndudi Elumelu Committee was put in place by the House on January 31, 2008 to look into how much was spent on power projects.

In its report, the committee said that about $13.278 billion was spent on power projects between 1999 and 2007.

The committee recommended termination of 13 contracts and review of 10 projects.

About 15 contracting and consulting companies were asked to be investigated by the appropriate agencies.

Senators Hunkuyi, Shehu Sani To Dump APC
User Avatar Forum: Politics
Posted by: Edoman - 05-26-2018, 10:41 AM - No Replies

he Sen Suleiman Hunkuyi- led faction of the All Progressives Congress in Kaduna State says it is considering defecting to another political party barely few months to the 2019 general elections .
The group, known as APC Akida , in a statement in Kaduna on Friday said it has concluded a review of the state of the party and governance issues in the state and the nation and was considering leaving the party they worked hard to put in place .
The group said it would take the decision “ if there is no visible evidence of success in addressing the damaging levels of alienation and frustration among the millions of party faithful in Kaduna State ” .
Prominent among the group are Sen Shehu Seni, Isah Ashiri , former APC governorship aspirant , Mr . Mataimaki Tom Maiyashi, among others.
Mr . Tom Maiyashi, Chairman of the group, who signed the statement said two recent events in the state chapter of the party have confirmed its fears of the absence of credible and legitimate party leadership .
These , he said , were capable of destroying the credibility and popularity of the party.
“ The party congresses , and the Local Government Councils elections , in Kaduna State have confirmed the fears that the absence of credible and legitimate party leadership in our state will destroy its credibility and popularity .
“ These are fears which the Akida group had raised since the early days of the administration of Nasir el - Rufai .
“ The congresses have exposed the contempt for popular participation by the Governor and his hand - picked choir.
“ Our party has lost massive popularity and goodwill as a result of attempts to force the choices of an unpopular government on party faithful ” , he said .
Maiyashi said those who emerged as leaders of the party from the congresses enjoy no support or legitimacy among party members .

Only Someone Like Buhari Who Enjoys Backwardness Can Idolise Abacha –Reno Omokr
User Avatar Forum: Politics
Posted by: Edoman - 05-26-2018, 10:40 AM - No Replies

In this interview with JESUSEGUN ALAGBE, a former aide to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan, Mr. Reno Omokri, speaks his mind on President Muhammadu Buhari’s anti-corruption war, his loyalty to former President Jonathan, among other political issues

You are one of the most outspoken critics of the President Muhammadu Buhari administration, especially as regards its anti-corruption war, while always defending former President Goodluck Jonathan. Would you say all the alleged looting under Jonathan that has been exposed by this government never took place?

I thank God that you said ‘alleged’ looting. I deal in facts, not allegations or speculations. If all the Buhari administration has on the Jonathan government after three years are allegations, then that ought to tell you a lot.

Here is one fact for you. In terms of corruption, Transparency International, the only global body recognised as an arbiter on corruption, has said that the Buhari administration is more corrupt than the Jonathan government.

Whereas under Jonathan, Nigeria made its best ever improvement on Transparency International’s Corruption Perception Index, moving eight places forward from 144 to 136 in 2014, today, Nigeria has made its worst ever retrogression under President Buhari, moving backwards 12 places from 136 to 148. This is a fact.

Let me give you another fact, you will agree with me that the biggest thief in Nigeria’s civil service history is Abdulrasheed Maina, the former Chairman of the Presidential Task Force on Pension Reforms.

He was dismissed by former President Jonathan and declared wanted. All of a sudden, he turned up in Nigeria with a double promotion. The Buhari government should tell Nigerians who recalled, reinstated and double-promoted Abdulrasheed Maina.

Nigerians may further recall that according to Dr. Junaid Mohammed, Maina was said to have been given armed guards. Nigerians may further want to note that the Attorney General of the Federation went to court to halt a Senate probe meant to unravel the Maina mystery. On this issue, it is pertinent to state that the Head of Service, Mrs. Winifred Oyo-Ita, revealed that she warned President Buhari about the Maina affair before he was reinstated.

While the Buhari regime is also explaining that, they should find time to explain to Nigerians why the $25bn contract scam at the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation has not been investigated till today. They should also explain why subsidy payments, which President Buhari termed ‘a fraud’ during the campaign, have jumped to 1.4tn per annum, yet the price of petrol has nearly doubled to 145 from 87? If petrol prices go up, then subsidy should go down. If subsidy goes up, then petrol prices should go down. It is mathematically impossible for subsidy to go up at the same rate and time price goes up. These are facts.

Now let me ask you, between facts and allegations, which are more credible?

Is the Buhari government’s persistent blaming of President Jonathan for the looting not justified?

How can it be justified? No amount of allegations is justifiable without facts. Thank God it was an All Progressives Congress senator that got up on live television and revealed that this administration has borrowed more money in three years than the Peoples Democratic Party borrowed in 16 years, yet what has been the impact?

Till today, no one in the Buhari administration can point to even one project that the President Buhari-led government has initiated, started and completed in three years except the Daura helipad which was built for the President’s own use. Great leaders think of the people they lead. It is weak leaders, like Buhari, who think only of themselves.

In the first year of Jonathan, he had initiated, started and completed over 1,000 projects, including three universities and the revival of the Lagos to Kano railway. In his second year, he had completed 2,689 projects, including five more universities. By his fourth year, he had started and completed over 10,000 projects, including three new power projects, 10 power sub-stations, 189 health care centres and four more universities (bringing the total to 12 and 165 Almajiri schools).

These are specifics. Now I ask you to name one project initiated, started and completed by the Buhari administration in three years? And Buhari had the guts to insult former President Obasanjo. Really?

President Buhari is an ungrateful beneficiary of President Obasanjo’s good governance. He is an ingrate for saying he is paying Obasanjo’s debt. Obasanjo did not spend $16bn on power. Obasanjo actually paid all our foreign debts and left a total reserve of $67bn. It is Buhari who has borrowed more in three years than the PDP borrowed in 16 years.

Last year on former President Obasanjo’s birthday, President Buhari called him a statesman ‘with commitment to good governance’. Today, he is hinting at probing Obasanjo’s alleged $16bn power project contracts just because Obasanjo is against his re-election. Is that the action of a man with credibility and integrity?

In your criticism of President Buhari and his men, you seem to use a lot of abusive words. For example, in several of your social media posts on Wednesday, you referred to the President as an ‘ungrateful ignoramus’ and to the Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, as ‘Linus, Liability, Liebaran, etc.’ Why do you have a liking for such words that are often seen as abusive?

How can the truth be ‘abusive’? If I call a thief a thief, can that be abusive? Truth is bitter. I will not flatter the President. I am an ordained minister. I serve God through Jesus. When my Lord was talking to the Pharisees, He called them ‘hypocrites,’ ‘brood of vipers,’ ‘blind leaders of the blind,’ ‘children of hell’. When He was talking about King Herod, He called him an ‘old fox’.

I am not abusing the President or Lai Mohammed. I am describing them. An ignoramus is an ignorant person. How can you claim that Obasanjo spent $16bn on power when as President the facts are available to you? That proves that President Buhari is an ignoramus.

On Lai Mohammed, he said just this week that the President had fulfilled his campaign promises. I am asking you and Nigerians, is that not a lie? What do you call someone who lies? Is it not a liar? Please let us call a spade a spade and not a garden implement!

Someone needs to remind Lai that he is meant to be fasting during Ramadan and that fasting is not just abstaining from food, it includes abstaining from lies! Lai should fear God!

President Buhari campaigned to secure Nigeria. Look at how many people have died in Nigeria between January and today. In Benue State alone, 481 people have died. In Kaduna State, it is close to 300. In Zamfara State, it is said to be above that. Taraba State is claiming over 700 deaths. I am not even mentioning the Boko Haram theatre of war. How many people are dying in war-torn Afghanistan?

Afghanistan is officially at war, yet more people died from terror in Nigeria in 2018 than in Afghanistan. In the first quarter of 2018, Afghanistan had 763 war-related deaths. In the first quarter of 2018, Nigeria had 1,351 terror-related killings. Do not take my word for it. Please Google this fact I just mentioned. Yet, Nigeria is officially at peace.

Buhari is a plague on this nation. Never since the civil war have we had death on so wide and so high a scale. How many of us will still be alive if Buhari is re-elected in 2019? You or your family may be next!

Recently, a political commentator, Nduka Anwuzie, claimed in an article that you’re hypocritical and that oftentimes, even as a pastor, you’ve also told lies to cover up the President Jonathan government. Anwuzie said you ought to use your position as a pastor to tell the PDP officials accused of corruption to return the monies they looted from the treasury. Is this something you might consider doing?

I am a very specific and fact-oriented person. I have a bestselling book, titled Facts Versus Fiction: The True Story of the Jonathan Years: Chibok, 2015 and Other Conspiracies.

If this fellow, whom I have never heard of, is serious, let him be specific and list even one lie I have told. I challenge him. If you know him, beg him to take up the challenge.

As regards telling PDP officials accused of corruption to return the monies they looted from the treasury, only a barbarian will tell the accused to do such. If a person is convicted, I will be the first person to tell him to return his loot.

But since the Buhari government and its paid vuvuzelas like to dwell on accusations and allegations, let me throw one of my own. If the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission wants to arrest young men living large without an identifiable source of income, then they should start with Yusuf Buhari. Yusuf does not have a job. He has not undergone the National Youth Service Corps programme. His father had to borrow to buy nomination form. Where did he get the millions for the BMW power bike?

Your social media critics often ask you to return to Nigeria to come and continue with your opposition to the President Buhari government, but you always respond by saying you will be arrested if you return. What specifically are you afraid of?

When my book became a bestseller, my brother, Boyowa, who is my carbon copy, was detained at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport [Abuja]. A number of news organisations carried the story. You may want to Google it. This administration is allergic to truth. That is why they will do everything in their power to shut someone like me up, but God is greater than them all!

Why do you think former President Jonathan doesn’t reply President Buhari and other All Progressives Congress officials anytime they blame him for the poor state of the country?

Because former President Jonathan is a man with a very deep belief in God; he once said, ’My ambition is not worth the blood of any Nigerian’. The man is too decent for them.

Look at the recent revelations by Victor Uwajeh, the former Special Investigator to the Special Presidential Investigation Panel on Recovery of Public Property. He accused the President Buhari administration of waging an anti-opposition war and not an anti-corruption war.

He exposed that he was pressured to go after Dame Patience Jonathan and former Vice President Atiku Abubakar. Why would Dr. Jonathan respond to them when God is already exposing them?

Do you think he’s afraid of being probed should he respond on such occasions, seeing now that former President Olusegun Obasanjo is being attacked over $16bn power projects the moment he [Obasanjo] started criticising Buhari?

It seems you do not know that former President Jonathan has already been probed by this administration more than any other head of state in living memory.

In fact, it is quite funny that President Buhari, who is celebrating Abacha, a known and convicted thief, is going after Dr. Jonathan, a man who achieved what he does not have the capacity to achieve. What an irony!

On Tuesday when Buhari made some savoury comments on the late dictator, General Sani Abacha, you said when you schooled in England, your university had a module on Abacha’s thievery. Can you tell us exactly what you learnt about the late dictator in the course?

Well it is public knowledge. The late General Sani Abacha was established to have stolen over $5bn, which prompted the United Kingdom’s Financial Services Authority to tighten anti-money laundering laws because they were embarrassed by the sheer scale of that tyrant’s thievery.

I read law in England. We were made to study Abacha’s thievery as a test case. My colleagues knew I was a Nigerian. My lecturer was a former adviser to the late Mrs. [Margaret] Thatcher. If embarrassment could kill anyone, I would have died during that class because of shame. Yet, this is the same Abacha that President Buhari is praising!

Do you think that Abacha deserves all the accolades being showered on him by President Buhari?

How can? I ask you, how can? A man who had killer squads who killed Kudirat Abiola, Chief Alfred Rewane, Major General Shehu Musa Yar’adua (retd.), Bagauda Kaltho, Sola Omatsola, amongst others?

Abacha ruled for five years and Nigerians were spending hundreds of thousands to get a mobile line. He died and within 18 months, Obasanjo had made it possible for any Nigerian who wanted it to get GSM for next to nothing.

It is only someone like President Buhari, who enjoys backwardness, who has no sense of decency or decorum or even shame, that can idolise such a thoroughly nasty piece of work like Abacha!

In your working with President Jonathan then, would you say he lacked a firm grip on his cabinet members, considering the alleged massive financial malfeasance they carried out right under his nose?

But history goes against what you are alleging. Two of his ministers were accused of corruption and President Jonathan fired one of them on the same day and the other after a two-week investigation.

Compare that to President Buhari.

His former Secretary to the Government of the Federation [Babachir Lawal] was caught red-handed in corruption, yet he did not sack him for six months and only sacked him when there was public outcry.

The man was sacked and, according to Junaid Mohammed, he [Lawal] was allowed to nominate his own cousin as his successor. Till today, he has not been charged!

President Jonathan investigated the then-Group Managing Director of the NNPC [Andrew Yakubu] and found him wanting and immediately sacked him and the government sent a petition to the EFCC to investigate him.

What has happened to the current GMD of the NNPC, Maikanti Baru, after the Minister of State for Petroleum, Dr. Ibe Kachikwu, exposed that he had awarded $25bn worth of contracts without due process? Nothing.

You are said to be among the few who have remained loyal to President Jonathan. Why did you choose to stay so?

Because I am loyal to my conscience, not my stomach. But ask yourself if those around President Buhari can say the same? Let us take President Buhari’s spokesman, for example. Garba Shehu was Special Assistant on Media for years during the President Obasanjo administration. Garba did not resign from that government.

In fact, Garba Shehu was affiliated with the PDP for 12 good years. He has been in the PDP for more years than he has been in APC. He was in the PDP longer than I have been associated with the PDP.

Garba Shehu cannot deny this because his office was opposite mine at the Presidential Villa between 2003 when I returned from the United Kingdom and 2005 when I went to the United States. Garba shehu used to craft very strong anti-Buhari press releases for the PDP during his 12-year sojourn as a PDP member, which included years spent as SA Media under Obasanjo. Now he crafts press releases for the same man he once attacked against the same people he once praised! Garba is the epitome of AGIP, meaning Any Government in Power. I am the epitome of loyalty. There is no basis to compare myself with him. I follow my conscience. Garba follows his stomach.

Does he [President Jonathan] ever compliment you for your loyalty?

I am not doing it because of former President Jonathan. I am doing it so that my Lord and Saviour, Jesus the Son of God, can say to me on the Judgment Day, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant’.

In April when the Federal Government released its looters list, you came up with your own list almost immediately, including the names of the Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi; APC governorship candidate in Ekiti State, Kayode Fayemi; ex-Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal; and others. Has there been any lawsuit or threat of one by the people you mentioned in your list?

There has been not even a hint of a lawsuit because I spoke the truth. And just to prove how confident I am, I challenge any of those mentioned in my own looters list to sue me if they are innocent. Truth fears no lawsuit.

As a matter of fact, Saturday PUNCH did an interview with the Chairman of the Presidential Advisory Committee Against Corruption, Professor Itse Sagay, where he praised me for coming up with such a thorough list. I am only one individual, yet my list was thorough and based on fact.

The Buhari administration has over 200,000 civil servants at its beck and call, yet its list was full of gossip, rumour and hearsay.

Recently, you and a former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode, had an altercation on social media over former Vice President Atiku Abubakar’s comments on herdsmen killings. Have you resolved the matter?

I did not harbour any grudge so there is nothing to resolve. As is usual with me, I spoke based on facts. I do not have time for speculation and gossip.

On herdsmen attacks, what do you think should be done to stem the situation?

Herdsmen are terrorists not criminals. They are listed by the Global Terrorism Index as the world’s fourth deadliest terror group. If the Buhari administration can treat herdsmen who kill in the same way as it treated the Indigenous People of Biafra, who don’t kill, then the problem will be solved.

Look at how the President of Ghana dealt with them. Ghana issued a shoot-at-sight order on herdsmen. Since then, have you heard of even one herdsmen killing in Ghana?

Tell us one thing you think President Buhari is doing right.

Three years ago, he said the following words:

‘I wish I became head of state when I was a governor, just a few years as a young man. Now at 72, there is a limit to what I can do.’

I concede that he was right then.

What advice would you give to Nigerians as the country prepares for the 2019 elections?

If you love yourself, if you love your children, if you love your parents, if you love your siblings, if you love your neighbours, if you love Nigeria, get rid of the Buhari administration.

To show you how little the lives of Nigerians matter to President Buhari, at the very hour that Christians in Benue State were burying the two Catholic priests and their 17 parishioners killed by Buhari’s killer herdsmen kinsmen, the President was receiving members of the Buhari Support Group.

In the same vein, at the very time that Benue State was mourning the 72 persons killed by herdsmen on the New Year’s Day, President Buhari received APC governors, who went to endorse him for a second term.

Let me end with a quote the Governor of Zamfara State, Abdulaziz Yari, of the APC made on February 16, 2018. He said:

‘I feel let down facing the people of this state whenever I remember the promise I made to them that when they elect President Buhari into power, these killings will end. Unfortunately, things are now getting worse.’

Buhari is a let-down. Vote him out!

RHAPSODY OF REALITIES DAILY DEVOTIONAL (FREE MAY PDF => http://bit.ly/2cuJG6M

*DOMINION OVER DEVILS .*

Saturday, May 26th .
Pastor Chris

_*And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils… (Mark 16:17).*_

There’re no Christians specially anointed or gifted to cast out demons. Jesus said, _*“…these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils…”*_ (Mark 16:17). The only qualification needed for you to be able to cast out devils is to be a believing one; it’s to be in Christ. Every Christian has authority to cast out devils, including the one that just got born again minutes ago.

Someone might say, “How can that be? Don’t we need to prepare ourselves and pray ‘powerful prayers’ before we can cast out devils?” No! Jesus didn’t even ask us to pray about the devil. He said, “Cast him out!” You never need to tell God to do anything about the devil, because He already did everything He needed to do about the devil, and demons of darkness, and gave you authority over them.

In Mark 6:7, the Bible says, _*“And he*_ (Jesus) _*called unto him the twelve, and…gave them power over unclean spirits.”*_ The Greek word for “power” is “exousia,” and it means “authority.” Jesus gave us authority over unclean spirits. Read what He did to them in hell: _*“Having disarmed principalities and powers, He made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them in it”*_ (Colossians 2:15 NKJV). Jesus rendered Satan and his cohorts incapacitated; powerless and useless. But guess what? When He did it, you were in Him.

In Luke 10:19, He said, _*“Behold, I give unto you power*_ (authority), _*to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power*_ (ability) _*of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you.”*_ You have the authority to control and tame Satan and his cohorts; to put them in check; and that authority is perfect and absolute. No demon can resist it.

Remember what we read in our opening verse, _*“And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils…”;*_ it’s a law in the realm of the spirit. When you ask a demon to come out in the Name of Jesus, it’s as though Jesus Himself were speaking. Live in the authority of His Name. Refuse to allow the devil run rampage in your environment.

*PRAYER*

*Dear Father, I thank you for the victory of Jesus over the devil and the entire host of darkness, which He wrought on my behalf. Now, I live in the victory and authority of Jesus Christ; Satan and his cohorts are no factors for my success. I live triumphantly in Christ, every day, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.*

*FURTHER STUDY:* *||* *Matthew 10:7-8* And as ye go, preach, saying, The kingdom of heaven is at hand. 8 Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out devils: freely ye have received, freely give. *||*

*||* *Luke 10:17-19* And the seventy returned again with joy, saying, Lord, even the devils are subject unto us through thy name. 18 And he said unto them, I beheld Satan as lightning fall from heaven. 19 Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you. *||*

Goodluck Jonathan, Fayose As Wike Commissions New Ekiti Governor's Office (Pics)

Posted by: Edoman - 05-25-2018, 09:20 PM - No Replies

Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike has declared that Nigeria is sliding into anarchy because of the poor governance style of the APC Federal Government

Commissioning the newly constructed Governor's Office in Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State on Friday in the presence of former President Goodluck Jonathan, Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, Abia State Governor, Dr Okezie Ikpeazu, Gombe State Governor, Dr Ibrahim Dankwambo,  Akwa Ibom State Governor, Udom Emmanuel and PDP National Chairman, Prince Uche Secondus, the Rivers State Governor said that Nigerians should use their permanent permanent voters cards to vote out the failed APC Federal Government.

He said: "Nigeria is sliding into anarchy.  Nigerians were deceived by the change lies.  Nigerians should show that they are tired of this fruitless change  "

The governor reiterated that the intelligence on the plot to assassinate him is genuine and valid. He said that the APC Federal Government has been involved  in past plots to kill him.

Governor Wike charged the people of Ekiti to be vigilant ahead of the governorship election, saying that they  will be intimidated by the security agencies.

He urged the APC Federal Government to emulate former President Goodluck Jonathan who showed that the unity of the country is paramount by conducting credible polls.

"Jonathan knows what democracy is all about. He never used his power to imprison the opposition.  He never allowed anyone to shed blood for political gains.  That is not the case today", Governor Wike said.

He wondered why the Ekiti State APC Governorship Candidate would be campaigning on the strength of a failed APC Federal Government, instead of his first term achievements.

The governor commended the Ekiti State Governor for his judicious management of meagre resources to deliver key projects.

He said the outgoing Ekiti State Governor has performed creditably because he believes in massive development in line with the PDP manifesto.

"We are happy to be part of PDP states commissioning key projects unlike the APC States where wheel barrows, hired tractors and bags of mangoes are commissioned ", he said.

He said Fayose will continue to be useful to the PDP even after he completes  his tenure of office.

In his remarks, Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose said that the PDP Governorship Candidate, Professor Eleka has a divine mandate to take over.

Fayose said that over the eight years that he spent in the office, he was central to the development of the infrastructure base of Ekiti State.

National Chairman of PDP, Prince Uche Secondus warned the APC Federal Government against attempting to rig the Ekiti State Governorship Election .

He stated that across the country, PDP State Governors are elivering key projects to improve the lives of the people.

Goodwill messages were delivered by Governor Udom Emmanuel of Akwa Ibom State , Governor Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia State and Governor Governor Ibrahim Dankwambo

Lagos Printer Abducts, Rapes Secondary School Student He Met On Facebook
User Avatar Forum: Other Stories
Posted by: Edoman - 05-25-2018, 01:59 PM - No Replies

The Lagos State Police have arrested a screen printer, Oluwaseun Badejo, for reportedly abducting and raping a 15-year-old girl, identified as Lateefat, in the Somolu area of the state. The arrested suspect who had two rounds of sex with his victim, drugged the Senior Secondary School two student of a public school at Ifako, Gbagada, before committing the said act.

The suspect who lured his victim he met on a social media platform, Facebook to a shop on Ayepe Street, Somolu, claimed to be a Pastor and was sending prayer messages to the victim. After the victim showed up at the shop, he lured her to his friend’s house, and with the help of his friend, drugged Lateefat and raped her.

It was gathered that after Lateefat who missed school and did not return home, was said to have been declared missing by her parents, she was reportedly traced to the Ita Baale area of Somolu, where she was rescued.

The victim's brother who said she could not stand up and had to be taken to a hospital for treatment, further told Punch's correspondent;

“She went to school on Monday and did not return home. On Tuesday, her mother became worried and called me to ask if I knew her whereabouts. That was because her school was near my house.

“When I got to her school, I did not see her and I reported back to her mother that she was also not in school. The mother and I went to meet her teacher to ask for her whereabouts.

“The teacher called some of her friends, who seemed to know her movements. They took us to the man’s shop, but she was not there. They suggested we go to the man’s house.

“We hid somewhere, while her friends went to check. They reported back that they found her sandals at the man’s apartment. I am a scout member. So, with my training, I barged in and got the man arrested. We saw Lateefat on the bed; she could not stand. We took her to a hospital and handed the man over to the police.”

A teacher who confirmed the incident involving the Lagos based screen printer, said Lateefat’s friends identified Badejo as the man she had been chatting with on Facebook.

A police source said Lateefat’s drink was drugged by the suspect, adding that she woke up around 1am on Tuesday and found herself in bed with the screen printer. The source said early that day, the suspect had another round of sex with her.

He said, “Actually, the girl’s brother gave her a mobile phone sometime in January 2018 and she opened a Facebook account. That was how she accepted the friendship request of the suspect in February and they started chatting.

“After her mother collected the phone from her, the man gave one of her friends his telephone number and succeeded in luring her and the friends to his shop. He bought drinks for them that day.

“The girl in her statement said he later invited her to his house. The first time she went, he did not do anything to her. It was the second time that he abducted her; she was in her school uniform that day.

“Despite the fact that the girl was menstruating, he forcefully made love to her after drugging her drink. She woke up at 1am after midnight. That morning again, he raped her. When the girl tried to shout, he covered her mouth. The girl said all her begging  fell on deaf ears.”

The case has been transferred to the gender unit of the command headquarters. Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Chike Oti, who confirmed the incident said;

“The girl is 15 years old, while the man claims to be 25 years old. They met on Facebook, where the man claimed to be a pastor and sent her prayer messages. The girl thought she was talking to a pastor, not knowing that he is a wolf in sheep’s clothing. As a friend, he invited her to a place and she accepted. On getting there, he took her to his friend’s house and had his way with her.

“We suspect that the girl was drugged before he had the marathon sex with her. This was because when police operatives got there, they met a half-filled bottle of soft drink, with a chemical like sodium. We are trying to analyse the substance and the drink the girl took.”

Father Accused Of Raping His Four Daughters In Port Harcourt, Remanded In Prison

41-year-old Michael Akpan, who reportedly raped his four biological daughters, was remanded in prison by a Chief Magistrates’ Court sitting in Port Harcourt on Thursday.

The suspects who reportedly had unlawful carnal knowledge of his four daughters, who were said to be two, seven, 11 and 17 years old respectively, stood the risk of being sentenced to life imprisonment after he was arraigned on three counts bordering on rape, which he reportedly perpetrated in his apartment in Borokiri Sand Field area of Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

The charges read in part, “That you, Michael Akpan, sometime in April 2018, at Borokiri Sand Field, Port Harcourt, within the Port Harcourt Magisterial District, did have unlawful carnal knowledge of (name withheld) without her consent, thereby committing an offence punishable under Section 358 of the Criminal Code, Cap 37, Vol. II, Law of Rivers State of Nigeria, 1999.

“That you, Michael Akpan Isaiah, sometime in May, 2018, at Borokiri Sand Field, Port Harcourt, within the Port Harcourt Magisterial District, did have unlawful carnal knowledge of (name withheld) aged seven, thereby committing an offence punishable under Section 218 of the Criminal Code, Cap 37, Vol. II, Law of Rivers State of Nigeria, 1999.”

Fortune Ndah, the Representative of the Federation of International Women Lawyers in Rivers State, said the accused who had no lawyer representing him due to the nature of the offence, had been raping his daughters for the past three years. According to her, the crime was exposed after Isaiah’s son caught him in the act, adding that the accused was always beating his daughters before having his way sexually with them.

Chief Magistrate, Zinnah Alikor, who said the action of the accused was an abomination and a display of wickedness, also blamed the mother of the children, who she also described as a victim, for failing to have a close relationship with her children, the chief magistrate maintained that the mother would have found out the atrocity of her husband earlier.

Nigeria Vs Congo Friendly: APC Warns Gov Wike Over 'Arrival' Of Ebola In Rivers
User Avatar Forum: Politics

Nigeria Vs Congo - APC Warns Wike Over Ebola. Ahead the Nigeria Vs Congo DRC friendly to be played on Saturday, The Rivers State chapter of the All Progressives Congress, APC, has warned the Wike-led Rivers State Government to act proactively to prevent arrival of Ebola in the state.

In a press release signed by the APC publicity secretary in Rivers State, Chris Finebone, and obtained by myNAIJAinfo.com, the party urged the state government to prioritize protection of the lives of the people and resident of the state.

Read the full press statement below:

NIGERIA vs CONGO DRC FRIENDLY: RVSG must act proactively to prevent arrival of Ebola in Rivers State – APC tells Wike

As the spread of the dreaded disease, Ebola, continues across major towns in the Congo Democratic Republic (DRC) ahead of the friendly game between Nigeria’s Super Eagles and the Leopards of DRC in Port Harcourt on Saturday, Gov. Nyesom Wike should not only focus on reaping from the razzmatazz the grade ‘A’ friendly brings to his empty celebration of 3 years in office.

He must forget politics for a while and act to protect the lives of the people and residents of Rivers State.

While the APC is not averse to the game going on in Port Harcourt as earlier scheduled, we are worried that the possibility of Ebola making its way into Rivers State may be lost on the lackadaisical and purposeless government led by Gov. Nyesom Wike in the State. We believe that a government that, for years, has been at sea over the soot enveloping Port Harcourt and environs may just be celebrating and backslapping while Ebola sneaks into town to wreak havoc on the people and residents of our dear State.

For once governor Wike should roll up his sleeves and deploy emergency health services especially the infectious disease personnel to ensure that the players and other delegation members who will make contact with hotel staff are properly screened to ensure that they do not leave any Ebola footprint on the hotel facilities and the staff.

More specifically, the hotel to accommodate the DRC delegation should be carefully selected and orientation for the personnel of such a hotel held to acquaint them with the need to reduce contacts and maintain general high hygiene standards while they host the delegation.

The APC is deeply worried and not sure whether the State government is aware that all major international media outlets are currently highlighting the increasing Ebola spread in the Congo DRC. What can be achieved by the federal government through surveillance at the airport of entry should not replace the need for the Rivers State Government to do more to safeguard the health and wellbeing of the people and residents of Rivers State.

This should not be another matter over which the governor will play his unending politics with. This is about life and we hope the governor gets it.

A gallant and well loved officer attached to the Special Anti Robbery Squad, SARS has been killed just ten days after his traditional wedding in Khana area of Rivers state. According to information gathered, the SARS officer identified as Michael Maji a.k.a Mike SARS - was killed by assailants in his in-laws community, the same place where he did his traditional wedding.

The reason for his killing could not be ascertained as at the time of filing this report but his friends and family have taken to social media to mourn the loss.

His close friend took to Facebook to lament as he prayed for consolation for the bereaved wife who is reportedly pregnant.. Read below;

It saddened my heart since the day I saw your obituary on the platform of a very beautiful, charming and lovely sister Thonia RealAngel on Facebook while on transit, announcing your untimely death Mike.

Just ten days after your Marriage ceremony in Khana, Rivers State.

I didn't believe it until you were laid to rest finally in your home town. Eighteen years back we started this journey together to curtail the criminality that disturbs our dear great Nation Nigeria; promising to bring down crime to the lowest level, in the period of our service.

The love for security makes us to respectively took the footsteps of our beloved Dads in a different outfit, The Nigeria Police Force, with the spirit of fighting crime with the whole of our heart and strength being barrack boys, as copied from them.

Our diligence, agility, transparency, honesty and intelligence mindset makes people to hate us, as we're into "doing good to good people and doing bad to bad people". But we keep struggling in making them mute. Now your enemies have succeeded in killing you, at the same area you wedded.

Oh! What a wicked world?

Sacrificing our today for the betterment of tomorrow Nigeria will never seize bro.

Consequently your death still keeps me entangled Michael Maji.

The painful side of it all is separating you from your love ones, especially the young widow with your unborn child. I pray God Almighty to give your family the fortitude to bear the irreplaceable lost. To you whom thinks you've succeeded, you and your entire household will never see peace in your life by the grace of God Almighty, until you repent.

Rest in Perfect Peace soldier!

Omokri Slams Father Mbaka Over Herdsmen Killings, Buhari’s Stand On Abacha
User Avatar Forum: Politics
Posted by: Edoman - 05-25-2018, 12:46 PM - No Replies

Reno Omokri, former aide to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan has lashed out at the Spiritual Director of Adoration Ministry in Enugu, Rev. fr. Ejike Mbaka over his silence in the face of herdsmen killing and President Muhammadu Buhari’s praises of late Head of State, Gen Sani Abacha.

Omokri wondered why Mbaka, a known supporter of Buhari, has gone silent despite the current negative happenings across the country.
He mockingly said Mbaka must be proud of negative things currently happening.

In a tweet, on Thursday, Omokri wrote: “Where is Rev Mbaka now that Buhari is hero worshipping Abacha. Mbaka, a Catholic Priest, remained silent as Benue buried 2 Catholic Priests and 17 parishioners killed by Buhari’s herdsmen kinsmen.

“This same Mbaka lied that Jonathan wanted to kill him! Is Mbaka proud of himself?
“It is a good thing Rev Mbaka’s ministry is called Adoration Ministry.

“He can join President Buhari in his adoration of Abacha. 2 days ago the entire Catholic Church collectively protested the killings of Christians nationwide. On that day, Rev Mbaka FORGOT that he was a Catholic!
“In 2015, Mbaka endorsed Buhari as the man God revealed to him He had chosen. Buhari replied, and I quote “Mbaka is a great priest who was not afraid to speak truth to power”.

“What happened to Mbaka since then? He keeps quiet as Christians and Muslims are slaughtered under Buhari.”

Buhari had on Tuesday said Abacha constructed roads and built hospitals while he was alive.

Speaking at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, Buhari had said, “I don’t care the opinion you have about Abacha but I agreed to work with him and we constructed roads from Abuja to Port Harcourt, Benin to Onitsha and so on. We also touched education and health institutions.”

'We Rape For Fun' - Naval Officer, Twin Brothers Arrested For Robbery Says
User Avatar Forum: Other Stories
Posted by: Edoman - 05-25-2018, 12:41 PM - No Replies

28-year-old Naval officer Jimoh Adesoye, was arrested alongside his twin brothers, and 12 other suspects by the Special Anti-Robbery Squad of the Oyo State Police Command for robbery and receiving stolen goods.

The State Commissioner of Police, Abiodun Odude, who paraded the suspects before newsmen said the Naval officer used his uniform and position to transport vehicles snatched by the criminal gang to buyers.

“The lance corporal often used his position and uniform to transport vehicles snatched by the gang and helped dispose of the stolen vehicles. The gang, which is also on the wanted list of SARS in Lagos and Kwara states, was responsible for the spate of armed robbery and car snatching along the Ogbomoso-Ilorin Expressway, Oyo State, Lagos, Kwara and other states in the South-West. Six of the suspects were initially arrested at their hideout in the Ilasa area of Ogbomoso by SARS unit, Ogbomoso, following credible intelligence by the command’s strategic partners.

“The modus operandi of the suspects was to go about kidnapping people, robbing them and sexually abusing female victims.

“The suspects abducted one Rasak Michael and his girlfriend, Rashidat, at the Mobil area on Oluyole Estate, Ibadan on April 31, 2018, and took them to a hotel where they were kept till the next day.

“While in captivity, the suspects took turns to rape the female victim and videotaped the sexual escapade for purpose of blackmail in the future. The suspects also stole the victims’ ATM cards having forcefully obtained the PIN numbers of the cards and unlawfully withdrew large sums of money from their bank accounts" he said.

Gang members arrested alongside the Naval officer and his twin brothers include; Lateef Isa, 25; Taiwo Yekini, 23; Kehinde Yekini, 23; Tunji Ismail, 23; Adeyemo Babajide 23; Saka Jamiu, 20; Akin Akingbade 35; Mudashiru Abdullahi, 29; Rasheed Adeniran, 26; Lukman Jimoh, 35; Dauda Lamidi, 24; and Waheed Ganiyu, 30.

Confessing to the crime, the  naval officer who begged the police to forgive him said a friend introduced him to the gang.

“I am a seaman in the Nigerian Navy. I told one of my friends that I needed a car and he introduced me to these people. Although I have my personal car that I use, I wanted to change it and my friend introduced me to them.

“I have bought more than two cars from the gang, but I later got to know that the cars were stolen. I know it is not right for me to buy such cars, I plead with the command to have mercy on me.”

It was gathered that one pump-action rifle, seven live cartridges, four cars, motorcycles and stolen home appliances was recovered from the gang.

Morning Devotional For Friday 25th May

RHAPSODY OF REALITIES DAILY DEVOTIONAL (FREE MAY PDF => http://bit.ly/2cuJG6M

*LIVE THE TRUE CHRISTIAN LIFE .*

Friday, May 25th .
Pastor Chris

_*To whom God would make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles; which is Christ in you, the hope of glory (Colossians 1:27).*_

Christianity is the outworking of divinity in humanity; the revelation of Christ in you. A Christian is one in whom Christ literally dwells, and who is Christ? As a person, Christ is the embodiment of deity; the fullness of the Godhead, represented in Jesus. And the Bible says He’s above all things; He’s the head of all principality and power, and He lives in you.

Now if this is true, and thank God it is, why should any Christian be afraid or intimidated by demons? Some are even traversing from church to church seeking to be delivered from demons and demonic oppressions. How sad! The Lord said in Hosea 4:6, _*“My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge….”*_ No Christian needs deliverance from Satan. A Christian who believes he or she requires deliverance from the devil isn’t living the true Christian life.

The Christian is superior to Satan, and shouldn’t have trouble with demons. As a Christian, once you find out that the devil is responsible for a problem or situation, it makes it easy to solve: just cast him out. Jesus said in Mark 16:17, _*“And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils…”;*_ it’s the first thing He said we could do in His Name.

Moreover, the Bible says, _*“Giving thanks unto the Father…Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son”*_ (Colossians 1:12-13). Before you were born again, you were already delivered from the power of darkness, and transferred into the Kingdom of God’s love-Son; it happened legally, for Jesus did this for the whole world. Now that you’re born again, it has become a vital reality. Satan, or darkness, has no control over you; you’re not under their influence or jurisdiction.

Howbeit, if you’re not living for the Master, and you choose to live under Satan’s influence, then you’re going to have trouble. “What if you strayed into Satan’s jurisdiction, and now you’re having trouble with demonic oppression?” someone wonders. That’s not a problem. Just say, “Jesus Christ is the Lord of my life, and I’m done with the devil.” That’s all! Glory to God!

*PRAYER*

*Dear Father, I thank you for translating me from the kingdom of darkness, to the kingdom of your loveSon, Jesus. I’m in the Kingdom now, and no devil can have its way in my life, because greater is He that’s in me, than he that’s in the world. I exercise control, and authority over anything that’s inconsistent with the provisions of the Gospel in my life, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.*

*FURTHER STUDY:* *||* *Luke 10:17-19* And the seventy returned again with joy, saying, Lord, even the devils are subject unto us through thy name. 18 And he said unto them, I beheld Satan as lightning fall from heaven. 19 Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you. *||*

*||* *1 John 4:4* Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world. *||*

*||* *Romans 5:17* For if by one man's offence death reigned by one; much more they which receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness shall reign in life by one, Jesus Christ.) *||*

*DAILY SCRIPTURE READING*

*1-Year Bible Reading Plan=>* John 12:1-19 & 2 Kings 16-17

*2-Year Bible Reading Plan=>* 1 Corinthians 12:12-21 & Proverbs 21.

#AFFIRMATIONTRAIN

25TH MAY.

I affirm that the Word of God is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path! It is the compass by which I navigate through life, driving me in the path of righteousness, success, and prosperity. Daily, the power of the Spirit is activated in me as the Word of God comes forth through me in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs unto the Lord. I am an offspring of the Word; God’s Word is rooted in my heart and has gained the dominion over my thoughts and actions, as I make joyful melodies of the Word in my heart unto my Lord. Hallelujah. My heart will forever trust in God’s Word to do what it says, for not only is the Word my best teacher, it also pilots me to the highest heights of success.

I am in Christ; I am seated together with Christ in the realms of power and glory, far above all principality, power, might and every domain of darkness! I reign with Christ today over the circumstances of life and over every negative force of nature, affirming that God’s perfect and eternal will is fulfilled in my life – in my ministry, job, family, finances and in the lives of those around me. Blessed be God. Hallelujah!

"I Will Not Leave APC For Gold-Diggers" – Okorocha
User Avatar Forum: Retired Forums. Please Make Your Post Within The 3 Forums In General Discussion
Posted by: Edoman - 05-24-2018, 07:26 PM - No Replies

Quote:Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo State has said that he will not leave All Progressive Congress APC for gold-diggers and that no Landlord leaves his house for unfaithful tenants.

Okorocha also said the story of his joining APGA is the creation of the 10-man coalition saying ‘the same people who called him names have begun to market falsehood against him including the fake story of his leaving APC for APGA. All these could show the level of frustration on the side of the ten-man Coalition. They are been hunted by their inglorious actions.’

Sam Onwuemeodo Chief Press Secretary to the governor in a statement on Tuesday said ‘Okorocha is one of the principal founders of APC. And when he took the mainstream of APGA to join the merger that gave birth to APC, he was not under any pressure to do so. He even took that action at the risk of his second tenure.’

‘He became the propeller of APC in Imo and the whole of South East. Mobilizing people for the party in Imo, Ebony, Abia, Enugu, and Anambra States. He was the rallying point. And he did that in the overall interest of the South-East and indeed, APC.

‘If Governor Okorocha did not take good percentage of APGA to APC, the party would not have had the kind of national spread it has till today. For that reason, they called him all sorts of derogatory names which Nigerians all know, including Alhaji in Government House, Okoro-Hausa, and Rochas Buhari.

‘When the APC came for campaign in 2015 in Imo and all the states in the South-East he was the point man. Today, APC has become the party to envy. Nobody is again talking about Rochas and Buhari going to use APC to Islamize the Igbos.

‘Today too, the same people who called him names have begun to market falsehood against him including the fake story of his leaving APC for APGA. All these could show the level of frustration on the side of the ten-man Coalition. They are been hunted by their inglorious actions.

‘One may also wish to know that while the unfounded story of the governor leaving APC is yet to dry, they have also come up with another funny one, that the governor is in coma. These people do not know God and of course they are afraid of both the present and the future.

‘They won’t be allowed to reap where they never sold. Their deceit will expire in no distant time. And no Landlord leaves his house for unfaithful tenants. The name Rochas is the fibre of APC in Imo and the whole of South-East.

‘And anybody who says it is not true should tell Nigerians why it is only in Imo you have APC governor, 24 out of the 27 House of Assembly members, three House of Representative members and one Senator, in the whole of South-East. Time will tell what happens in APC in Imo and the whole of South-East.’

“For the avoidance of doubt, anybody who patronises or obtains any certificate from any of these illegal institutions does so at his or her own risk,” the publication reads.

According to the publication, certificates obtained from these sources will not be recognised for the purposes of National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), employment and further studies.

The commission said the relevant law enforcement agencies have been informed for necessary action.

Meanwhile, the NUC Director of information and Public relation, Ibrahim Yakasai, in a telephone conversation, told newsmen that the commission has not relented in its effort to shut every illegal institution in the country

According to Mr Yakasai,

“we continued publishing the lists so that the illegal universities don’t resurface. If we stop publishing their names, they could move to other part of the country and start operating because at some point, they were moving.

“We have been producing the editorial for so many years. We update it as we get information across the country that some institutions are operating illegally. We go there and once they know we are coming, they run away,” Mr Yakasai said.

Recall how the NUC confirmed that a senator, Foster Ogola’s Phd certificate is invalid; as the institution he attended is among the illegal universities.

An investigation revealed that the senator, currently representing Bayelsa West senatorial district, has fake credentials from an unaccredited university in Nigeria named GMF Christian university.

The National Universities Commission of Nigeria is a government agency promoting quality higher education in Nigeria.

The NUC is saddled with the responsibility of granting approval for all academic programs run in Nigerian universities and granting approval for the establishment of all higher educational institutions offering degree programs.

APC Has Fulfill it Promise, We will Win 2019.. Lai Mohammed
User Avatar Forum: Retired Forums. Please Make Your Post Within The 3 Forums In General Discussion
Posted by: Edoman - 05-24-2018, 07:18 PM - No Replies

Quote:The Minister of Information and Culture, Mr Lai Mohammed, has said he is confident that President Muhammadu Buhari will emerge victorious in the 2019 general elections.

The minister made the comments on Tuesday while inspecting the dualisation of the Ibadan-Ilorin road in Oyo state.

“We are so confident that our re-election would be easy,” he said.

“Whether it is in terms of infrastructure, whether it is in terms of social intervention, every day we are working for the people.”

According to Mohammed, the Buhari administration has kept its promises to the people of Nigeria.

He also believes that the President has not lost his goodwill because of the massive projects he says it is embarking on.

In the area of infrastructure, the minister assured the public that there are enough funds to ensure that the road projects are completed at the appropriate time.

He said in addition to the Presidential Infrastructure Fund, the Federal Government also floated a N100 billion Sukuk Bond, which has been shared to the Six Geo-political Zones for intervention in critical infrastructure.

He further stated that the Federal Government would not relent in its promises despite criticism from the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

“Our response to critics is not to exchange banters,” he said.

“There is only one way you can get the electorates to vote for you – by keeping your promises to them and by embarking on projects that touch their lives and this is what we are doing and that is why we are so confident.

The Minister said the road remains very significant because it’s the gateway to the South-Western part of the country from the North and has been under severe strain from heavy-duty vehicles since the collapse of the railways.

On his part, the Federal Controller of Works in Oyo State, Mr Omotayo Awosanya, said the project, which was awarded in 2010, is now 58% completed due to the commitment of the present administration to delivering the project.

“When it was initially awarded, there were no proper funding until this present regime when funding improved. We are lucky this project is benefitting from Sukuk Funds in addition to what the budget can provide,” he said.

Another of such projects which Mr Mohammed pointed out is in the area of social intervention.

He said the Federal Government’s school feeding programme caters to about eight million children across primary schools.

“We are working for the common man in this country. As of today, we feed 8.2 million children in primary schools over Nigeria. In the process, we employ 87,000 cooks.

“This feeding programme in about 24 states covers 62,000 primary schools,” he added.

FG Approves 22 Firms To Takeover Meter Distribution From Discos (names)
User Avatar Forum: Politics
Posted by: Edoman - 05-24-2018, 07:14 PM - No Replies

Quote:By Simon Echewofun Sunday

The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) says it has granted a ‘No Objection’ to 22 firms to procure and install meters for customers under the 11 Distribution Companies (DisCos).

A statement by the General Manager, Public Affairs, Usman Abba-Arabi, said the ‘No Objection’ qualifies intending investors to participate in the meter procurement process in the Nigerian Electricity Supply Industry (NESI).

The MAP Regulation that enabled new investors to finance mass metering plans for electricity users was brought into effect by NERC on April 3, 2018.

It mandates the DisCos to engage meter assets providers who fund purchase, installation and replacement of meters to meet DisCos’ metering obligations to their customers.

“This is to ensure that all electricity customers are metered thereby reducing incidences of estimated electricity billing to the barest minimum,” NERC said in the statement available on its social media platforms.

The commission said the approval was given after it had conducted due diligence on the supporting documents to the applications submitted by interested investors as prescribed by the regulation.

NERC however said more applicants can do so as the exercise is continuous.

Among the approved firms are Huawei Technology Company Nigeria Ltd, Bilview Energy Ltd, Chintech Electro Nigeria Ltd, Holley Metering Ltd, MEMCOL, and Meron Nigeria Ltd.

Others include Integrated Power, MBH Power, Trimani Engineering, Sapropel Energy Resources, Megawatt Distribution International, and Unistar Hi-Tech Systems.

Still in the list are Imperial Infrastructure Development Company, Ratio Consulting, Protogy Global Services, Paktim Metering, Sabrud Consortium, Tinuten, Kayz Consortium, BTS Power, CIG Metering Assets, and Cresthill Energy.

Don’t Give El-rufai Loans – Kaduna Senators Warn Bank
User Avatar Forum: Politics
Posted by: Edoman - 05-24-2018, 01:45 PM - No Replies

The three senators representing Kaduna State in the upper chambers of the National Assembly have warmed banks and financial institutions not to extend loan facilities to the Nasir El-Rufai led Government.

This is contained in a statement Senators Suleiman Hunkuyi (Kaduna North), Shehu Sani (Kaduna Central) and Danjuma La’ah, (Kaduna South), jointly signed and issued in Abuja.

They said the warning became necessary following alleged move by the state Governor, Nasir el-Rufai, to obtain huge loans through the back door.

The Senate had in April 2018 turned down Kaduna State Government’s request for the approval of a $350million loan

But the senators advised money lenders to approach the Debt Management Office (DMO) for necessary briefing before venturing to grant loan facility to the state government.

The two-page statement read in full: “Caution to chief executives of commercial banks and other fiancé houses, local and abroad, on loan offers beyond the solvency of Kaduna State Government emphasised that the Kaduna State Government recently failed the Legal litmus test in obtaining a World Bank facility to the tune of USD 350,000,000, through the process of the Nigerian Senate.

“Information available to us the three senators representing Kaduna State confirms the resort by the state government to other routes in obtaining loans, local and international.

“The Committee on Foreign and Local Loans/Debts of the Senate is not unaware of efforts by the state government to negotiating with some Finance Houses to procure huge foreign loans to the detriment of state government.

“Such efforts being made through private finance management companies may have to do with the failure of the state government to secure the disapproved USD 350million earlier this year through the Senate.

“The public to note, the extent of desperation the state chief executive went to town on personalising the official disapproval of the loan, which was officially reported by the Senate and backed by the DMO official reports.

“The desperation of the state government has now reached an epoch of reckless dimension as to use private finance companies (Home and Abroad) to negotiate and procure similar facilities through other mediums alternatively circumventing the Senate.

“The Senate committee on Foreign and Local Debts and senators representing Kaduna State are also aware of the efforts of Kaduna State Government to negotiate and collect huge unreasonable sums of local currencies loans through Nigerian local banks.

“It is imperative to mention here that Kaduna State solvency in collecting such loans (in those huge amounts) and obviously, and objectively are incapable of carrying such huge debt burdens.
“The moral causes of a government few months from elections, with no clear identity of requisite public supports and sympathy to be re-elected aside.

“The recklessness with which these loans are being heaped on Kaduna State Government from many commercial banks in such huge sums calls for caution

“The three senators and indeed the committee for foreign and local debt of the Senate use this medium to alert chief executives of the local commercial banks, finance houses, foreign finance managers and finance houses, to take seriously the commercial and ethical responsibilities in doing business with the current leadership of Kaduna State Government under Governor Nasir el-Rufai.

“The banks and finance managers are in their own interest and the wider interest of the l public in the state advised to not only seek approval of Kaduna State legislature (Which has long before now turned to be a rubber stamp of the governor), but also turn to the DMO for correct indices and reports of the current debt status of the state government.

“For the Kaduna State House of Assembly, it is worthy for you to be reminded that you are in those offices to protect the interest and integrity of the people.

“Therefore, the Committee for Finance and Clerk to the state assembly to publish all the requests for local and foreign loans received from the state government, and the various approval and those under consideration of the assembly or its relevant committees.

“The three senators, want to use this medium to also thank the public in our dear state for the understanding and support for us to continue to do our duties no matter the intimidation by the state government.”

He was paraded yesterday alongside 40 other suspected criminals at the state Police Command Headquarters, Eleweran, Abeokuta.

Spartacus, a dreaded name in Ogun state, and goes by the title of 'butcher' in the Aiye Confraternity, was arrested on April 12, 2018 in the Sabo area of the gateway state.

Most of the suspects paraded were cultists, who cashed in on secret cult to commit either murder robbery and ritual.

The CP, however, reassured the citizenry that, "our commitment to your security will never abate. Therefore, I advice everyone to go about their businesses without fear or apprehension", while also soliciting for continued partnership with the police by availing them with timely and useful information that would further help to nip crime in the bud...

Some bandits in separate operations reportedly abducted at least 31 persons at Kwanan-Dutse and Labi villages in the Birnin-Gwari Local Government Area of Kaduna State between Tuesday and Wednesday.
The bandits, wielding assault rifles and in military fatigue, were said to have kidnapped the 31 persons between Tuesday and Wednesday, according to a source.

On Tuesday, the local Chairman of the National Union of Road Transport Workers in Birnin-Gwari, Mallam Danladi Duniya aka Iron, confirmed that 10 persons, mostly commuters travelling from the South to Kano were abducted.
Also, on Wednesday, 21 passengers were abducted in Labi village along the same road, the NURTW chief added.

Duniya said, “The incident involved commuters in a Sharon and three Golf 3 brand of cars. They were waylaid by the bandits while the people inside the two vehicles were whisked into the bush.
“Those kidnapped include, both females and males and the drivers of the vehicles. They were going to Kano for various business activities.”
He added that the abductors stripped their victims, mostly women naked before forcing them into the bush.
Duniya said the union had begun to mobilise vigilance groups to go into the forest in search of those kidnapped.
He, therefore, called for urgent intervention from the authorities concerned to rescue the victims.

“Victims are on their way to various destinations when the kidnappers struck and carried them into the bush.
“Today (Wednesday), around 8am another 21 persons were abducted near Labi village along the same Kaduna – Birnin-Gwari Road.
“The victims are said to include males and females going to Kano for various business activities. They (victims) are traveling in three golf cars, a trailer and a tanker when they were abducted.
“The union is now mobilising members and the vigilance group to go and take back all the vehicles involved in the incident,” he said.
When contacted, the Kaduna Command’s Public Relations Officer, Mukhtar Aliyu, did not confirm the incident, but promised to get back to our correspondent with details of what transpired.
However, Aliyu had yet to fulfil his promise as of the time of filing this report (4:10pm)

Prison Break

A Brazilian murderer died after suffocating in a 230ft-long escape tunnel he had dug from his prison cell toilet, it was reported today.

Judson Cunha Evangelista, 26, had spent months carving the tunnel, and had managed to dig all the way past the perimeter wall of the jail in Boa Vista, northernBrazil.

However, shortly before he was able to dig himself out, he is believed to have suffered an acute lack of oxygen, and despite making it back to his cell, he died soon after.

Shocked officers discovered a hole which began underneath the toilet in Evangelista's cell in Wing 7 of the Monte Cristo penitentiary, the largest prison in Brazil's northern most state of Roraima.

Why Buhari Is A Weak Leader – Ben Bruce
User Avatar Forum: Politics

Ben Murray-Bruce,the Senator representing Bayelsa East constituency has described President Muhammadu Buhari as a weak leader.

Bruce said the Buhari-led administration failed in completing any major project in the country apart from Daura Helipad in his hometown.

The Bayelsa lawmaker writing on his Twitter page stated that a strong leader would look after the people rather than himself.

“It is sad that this administration cannot point to any major project initiated, started and completed in the three years they have been in power except the Daura helipad.

“It is a weak leader who looks after himself. A strong leader will rather look after the people who he leads,” Ben Bruce stated.

This is coming at a time when President Buhari hinted on the possibility of probing former President Olusegun Obasanjo over the failed $16 billion power project. This has generated reactions from Nigerians, as well as civil society organisations

Morning Devotional For Thursday 24th May

RHAPSODY OF REALITIES

THURSDAY, 24th MAY

THE CREATIVE POWER OF THE WORD.

And now, brethren, I commend you to God, and to the word of his grace, which is able to build you up, and to give you an inheritance among all them which are sanctified (Acts 20:32).

John 1:1 says, “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” If the Word was God, and God doesn’t change, it means that the Word is still God. In verse 14 of the same chapter, the Bible says, “The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth” (John 1:14 NIV).
Recall that before Jesus was born, the Holy Ghost had come upon the Virgin Mary, and the Word she received from God, which was spoken to her by an angel, became flesh in her.

That Word became a child, and grew to become the man, Christ Jesus. So Jesus, indeed, is the Word of God become flesh; He’s the result of the Word that was spoken to Mary.

Today, when the Word of God comes to you, it still has the same effect and produces the same result. God’s intent is for the Word to become one with you, to become flesh in you. If it’s a word of healing, it’s meant to destroy the sickness, and take its place.

The Word can recreate a broken or amputated arm. The Word can change your genotype. The Word can become new kidneys in you, and literally give you a new heart, if you’ve had issues with your kidneys or your heart. Receiving God’s Word is receiving the power of God into your life; the creative power of God.
Don’t accept that your situation is hopeless. Don’t despair or become despondent because of your financial situation; change things with the Word. Get into meditation; chew the Word; ponder and contemplate the Word until it literally forms in you the message it bears. You’ll know when it happens: your mind will be renewed to only see, think, and accept the results that the Word is supposed to produce for you and in you.

PRAYER

Blessed Father, I thank you for the efficacy of your Word in my life. Through meditation, the Word mingles with my spirit, soul, and body, producing in my life and in my situation the message that it bears. Your divine power is at work in me through and through, today, and always, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.

FURTHER STUDY:

Psalm 107:20 He sent his word, and healed them, and delivered [them] from their destructions.

Hebrews 4:12 AMPC For the Word that God speaks is alive and full of power [making it active, operative, energizing, and effective]; it is sharper than any two-edged sword, penetrating to the dividing line of the [a]breath of life (soul) and [the immortal] spirit, and of joints and marrow [of the deepest parts of our nature], exposing and sifting and analyzing and judging the very thoughts and purposes of the heart.

Isaiah 55:11 So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper [in the thing] whereto I sent it.

#AFFIRMATIONTRAIN

24TH MAY.

I affirm that the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of the Father, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit abide with me today and forever. My spirit is sensitive to God’s voice, and I am able to discern His voice and counsel to me always because I am His sheep. The ways of the Spirit have been manifested unto me, and I am guided from within and through the Word to know and walk in the paths of life.

The favour of God is functioning in and through me. I have received abundance of grace; therefore, I walk in righteousness and reign in life! I am the object of God’s supernatural grace and unfailing love. The Spirit of God has shown me the way to a fruitful and glorious life. As I respond to the Word in agreement, my life is lifted above the crippling principles of this world, and I am catapulted from victory to victory. The Holy Spirit lives in the quarters of my heart; He is the fire and power of my life. His light blazes intensely in my heart, making God’s presence real to me, His passion aglow, and His purity aflame in my spirit. I am fulfilled, joyful, and excited about my life, which the Father had adorned with His beauty, glory, and righteousness. I am established by His grace, in the path of greatness, because I am completely yielded to God’s Word. Blessed be God. Halllelujah!

Killings: Service Chiefs honour Senate summons

*Demand special funding for operations
*Get 2 weeks to submit proposal
By Ignatius Okorocha
Unlike the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Mr. Ibrahim Idris, the nation’s Service Chiefs on Wednesday honoured the summons of the Senate over the rising wave of killings and other security challenges in the country.
In their various presentations to the Senate, the Service Chiefs demanded for special funding to enable them end the killings in different parts of the country.
The security chiefs were led to the meeting by the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), Gen. Abayomi Gabriel Olonisakin.
The meeting lasted about four hours in a closed-door session, and focused on the proliferation of arms, killings by terrorists and kidnapping by hoodlums across the country.
The invitation to the service chiefs and heads of other security agencies followed a motion brought on the floor of the Senate a fortnight ago by Senator Suleiman Hunkunyi, which was adopted in the Red Chamber.
Those invited to brief the lawmakers were the National Security Adviser (NSA), the CDS, IGP, the Comptroller-General, Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS), the Director-General, Department of State Services (DSS), and the Comptroller-General, Nigerian Customs Service (NSC).
However, the meeting which started at about 12.30pm and ended at 4.30pm, was attended by Olonisakin and the DG of DSS, Lawal Daura.
The NIS boss, IGP and Col. Hameed Ali (rtd) sent representatives. The IGP and Ali are seen by Nigerians as President Muhammadu Buhari’s “big boys”, with disdain for the Senate.
Ali and Ibrahim have repeatedly gone to court to resist the summons by the Senate.
Giving a brief of what transpired at the parley, the Senate President, Abubakar Bukola Saraki, said that after listening to the some of the challenges faced by the security agencies in the war against insurgency, terrorism, kidnapping and other crimes, the Senate directed them to prepare a supplementary budget for special funding to enable them end the menace.
He said: “On the whole, we directed that on our part, certain outstanding bills or protocols that need to be fast-tracked should be addressed as soon as possible in order to strengthen the security architecture.
“We observed the funding issue and we also agreed that there must be a special funding and as such, we gave them two weeks to present the budget they think will help to improve the security situation in the country”.
On the apparent lack of co-ordination among the security agencies, the Senate stressed the need for them to work with one another to secure Nigeria.
According to Saraki, to ensure the recurring killings in parts of the country was brought to a quick end, the lawmakers and heads of security agencies resolved to work together to end the menace.
Fielding questions from journalists, the Senate spokesman, Senator Abdullahi Aliyu Sabi, explained that the special fund was not part of the $1billion requested by the Presidency.
“That $1bn was not in today’s matter. The money was specifically for the military. Here, we are talking about security formation generally. Given the current insecurity situation in the country, we are worried.
“They have the national budget but it is also very clear that whatever it is, that is being budgeted for under the annual appropriation, may not solve the problem. That is why we are talking about special funding,” he said.

Friesland Records 13.2% Revenue Growth In 2017 Despite Economic Challenges
User Avatar Forum: Business/Investment
Posted by: Edoman - 05-24-2018, 09:18 AM - No Replies

FrieslandCampina WAMCO Nigeria Plc announced on Thursday its 2017 financial results at the company’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) held at the Muson Centre, Onikan, Lagos. The firm said that full-year sales grew 13.2% to ₦140bn, from ₦123.75bn in 2016.

The leading dairy maker in Nigeria known for such brands as Peak milk and Three Crowns milk, among others said that it showed resilience and determination to meet its targets and thrive amidst a difficult operating environment.

The firm noted that net profit declined by 13.5% to ₦12bn from ₦13.8bn in 2016, blamed on a fire incident at their Evaporated milk factory in 2017 which reduced production and required the company to import high volume of Evaporated milk to cushion the gap from the resulting fire incident.

In spite of continued foreign exchange constraints, high inflation rate, and low consumer purchasing power, the company said it increased investment to improve operational efficiency by procuring two new sterilizers, a conveyor, two high-speed sachet filling machines with improved technology and a dust extractor system to optimize safety in the Powder Plant.

The firm also made significant investments in its Dairy Development Programme to increase opportunities in local dairy farming. The company invested in an additional milk collection center and started the Farmer2Farmer programme to help improve milk quality, volume, and dairy farming skills through one-on-one coaching by Dutch co-operative member-farmers from Royal FrieslandCampina, The Netherlands.

However, the company noted that it imported ₦96.7bn worth of dairy raw materials, while ₦16.2bn or 16.7% was procured locally due to the challenges it faced during the year.

Dividend

The shareholders approved 75% of net profit as dividend to its shareholders which translates to ₦9.22 per ₦0.50 share in the year under review.

Outlook

In his statement to the media, regarding the company’s 2018 outlook, the Managing Director, Mr. Ben Langat explained that foreign exchange constraints, high inflation rate, and low consumer purchasing power are likely to be some of the challenges this year.

“We expect consumers to maintain their current spending behavior of top-up neighborhood shopping, particularly for milk. Availability and affordability will remain major determining factors in purchase decision making,” he said.

“FrieslandCampina WAMCO will continue to work within best global practices, leverage opportunities to invest and continue to satisfy our consumers as we maintain our leadership position in the dairy sector,” Langat said.

Kwara APC Crises: Lai Mohammed Faction Files Suit Against Saraki
User Avatar Forum: Politics
Posted by: Edoman - 05-23-2018, 09:32 PM - No Replies

A faction of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kwara State has filed a suit against the group loyal to Senate President, Bukola Saraki. The faction, believed to be peopled by loyalists of the Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, is challenging Mr Saraki-led group over the outcome of last Saturday congresses in the state. The two groups held parallel congresses in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital, on Saturday.

In the suit dated May 21, the prosecutors prayed a state high court for an order restraining the APC, its national chairman, John Oyegun, and Mai-Mala Buni, from recognising or acting through Ishola Fulani as the new party chairman in the state. The suit, filed by Bunmi Olusona and Toyin Ayinla, recognised the APC and Messers Oyegun, Buni and Fulani as the 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th defendants respectively.

In the affidavit filed in support of the motion, which was made available to PREMIUM TIMES, Mr Ayinla claimed he emerged the secretary of Kwara APC while Mr Olusona won the chairmanship position. The claim explained that it was after the congress held by the faction at the state secretariat “that we heard that a parallel congress held at the Kwara state Banquet Hall Ilorin”.

The claim reads in part: “That I know for a fact that the defendants are boasting around that nobody can stop them from according the 4th defendant recognition of the executive members of Kwara State.

Meanwhile, the claimants urged the court for an interlocutory injunction restraining Mr Fulani and otherelected executive members by the Saraki faction from “parading himself/themselves as the chairman and executive members of the state APC exco” pending the hearing and final determination of the case by the court.

The state chapter of the party has been engulfed in crises, leading to division at the just concluded state congress held Saturday. While the faction loyal to the Mr Saraki held its congress at the Banquet Hall opposite the Government House, another congress by a faction loyal to the Mr Mohammed took place at Arca Santa Event Hall.

Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed; APC National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi; a senator, Shaaba Lafiaji; and lawmakers representing the state at the National Assembly and state House of Assembly were present at the congress held at the Banquet Hall.

Other former loyalists of the Senate President who fell out with him were however at Mr Mohammed-led factional congress at Arca Santa Event Hall.

$16b NIPP funds: The fact-sheet
Posted By: Yusuf Alli On: May 23, 2018

FacebookTwitterGoogle+PinterestLinkedInWhatsApp
Why was a whopping $15 billion invested in the National Integrated Power Project (NIPP)? This is a question that has lingered for more than a decade. Managing Editor Yusuf Alli writes on while the multi-billion power sector investment did not yield the desired result.

LIKE a recurring decimal, the debate on what happened to the $16 billion power project vote yesterday returned to the front burner of public discourse.

President Muhammadu Buhari said Nigerians deserve to know why there was no corresponding power supply in the homes and business premises after the administration of former President Olusegun Obasanjo for disbursed whopping $16 billion cash on power projects.

He threw the jibe when the Nigerian Customs Service Comptroller-General, Col. Hameed Ali Presidential (rtd) led members of the Buhari Support Organisation (BSO) to the State House in Abuja yesterday.

The power project budget has been a subject of controversy since expiration of President Olusegun Obasanjo’s tenure on May 29, 2007.

In 2008, the House of Representatives described the $16 billion spent on power projects between 1999 and 2007 as “a colossal waste.”

Also in 2016, a Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) the Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) called for a probe into the disbursements.

The group specifically asked the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN) “to appoint an independent counsel to investigate allegations of corruption in the spending of $16 billion on electricity by the government of former President Olusegun Obasanjo between 1999 and 2007”.

SERAP said its request was brought “pursuant to Section 52 of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Act 2000, and the letter and spirit of the Act, and the object and purpose of the 1999 Constitution (as amended).”

Speaking at the Sixth Annual Trust Dialogue, organised by Media Trust Limited, former House of Representatives Speaker Dimeji Bankole, shed more light on the issue.

He told the audience: “As for the power probe, $16 billion was truly appropriated but $13.5 billion was released. For your information, we are going to consider that report. We will take a whole week and we will do our recommendations live on television.

“We are not interested in the personality involved, we are dealing with institutions. Our recommendations will be on how to strengthen those institutions such that we will never have a repeat of this kind of thing again.”

The ad-Hoc Committee on Power Probe in the Green Chamber gave insights into why the nation was in darkness despite the huge cash withdrawal from the Excess Crude Account (ECA).

The 2009 Report of the then Ndudi Elumelu panel was submitted to Bankole.

It said that $13.278 billion was spent on power projects between 1999 and 2007.

The committee recommended the termination of 13 contracts and the review of 10 others.

According to the report, about 15 contracting and consulting companies were to be investigated by the appropriate agencies.

These highlights were contained in the report of the committee on Power Generation Transmission and Distribution between June 1999 and May 2007.

The Elumelu Committee was put in place by the House on January 31, 2008.

The report, which was exclusively obtained by The Nation, also indicated that the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation OAGF could not account for the whereabouts of $1 billion.

The committee sought investigation of 18 people involved in power projects between 1999 and 2007 by anti-graft agencies Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and Independent Corrupt Practices and other Related Offences Commission (ICPC).

Among those recommended for probe in the National Integrated Power Project (NIPP) report was Chief Obasanjo, under whose watch the cash was withdrawn and spent

Others are: former governors Liyel Imoke (Cross River) and the late Olusegun Agagu (Ondo), who were Power Ministers; former Minister of State for Energy Abdulhamid Ahmed; a former Managing Director of the Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN) Joseph Makoju; the ex-Chief Executive Officer of Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) G.O.P Osakue; TCN Transmission Head C.E. Ifesie; Acting General Manager (Lines) Mike Ezeudenna; Technical Committee Chairman/General Project Manager C. N.O. Nwachukwu; Technical Committee Deputy Chairman I. Onuoha and Niger Delta Power Holding Company NDPHC/NIPP Managing Director J. A. Olotu, among others

The report said in part: “From the oral and documentary evidence, it was clearly established that the total expenditure in the power sector during the period 1999-2007 was $13, 278,937,409.94 billion.

“Indeed, had the supplementary budget of the power sector in 2007 been implemented, the expenditure could then have been over $16 billion reported by the Honourable Speaker of the House of Representatives.

“There are also unfunded commitments to the tune of $7.265 billion for NIPP projects as at May 29, 2007.

“There is another $1 billion for PHCN capital projects awarded between 2000 and 2007, which have been captured in the 2008 Appropriation Act.

“Additionally, the total commitment of the NNPC and its Joint Venture partners (of which the Federal Government, through the NNPC has an average of 51 per cent interest) towards the Independent Power Plants (IPP), gas sources development, gas transmission and metering of JV IPPs, PHCN power plants and NIPP power plants, according to the submission of the acting GMD of the NNPC is $7 billion, out of which about $1.62 billion has been expensed, leaving outstanding commitments of over $5.5 billion out of which the Federal Government will provide about $3 billion.

“Recognition of these unfunded commitments would bring the total (funded and unfunded) FGN expenditure commitments in the power sector to over $24.5 billion between 1999 and 2007.

“From the assessment done during the committee’s tour of the project sites, it is safe to conclude that no meaningful progress was made in the execution of power contracts.

“It is curious and quite strange that officials rush to pay contractors in full even before engineering design for the projects have been completed and approved.

“NIPP contracts were not only overpriced in comparison with PHCN contracts, they are also wide off the mark when viewed against comparable power stations in several parts of the world.

“A comparable review of the cost of power installations in varied regions of the world such as South Korea, Saudi Arabia, U.S.A, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Mexico and Chile showed that $10billion could have built plants to produce between 5,000 to 6,000 MW of electricity. But this amount failed to do so in Nigeria.

“Unfortunately, all NIPP payments were made without following due process. In its place, a process called ‘Waiver of Due Process Certification for Payment’ was adopted in flagrant disregard of Due Process Policy, thus paving the way for dubious and highly risky payments to contractors and consultants by the Federal Government.

“The committee found hard and widespread evidence of systematic over scoping of projects in order to inflate costs both in PHCN and NIPP.

“At least 15 transmission lines and substation projects have been identified. For example, the New Haven-Ikot-Ekpene 2x330kv Double Circuit Line was over-scoped by 49 per cent whilst the Afam-Ikot Ekpene 330kv line was over-scoped by more than 100 per cent.

“The estimated aggregate cost inflation identified so far for transmission projects is over N20 billion and this is recoverable from contractors.

“A clear example of project cost inflation is the proposed supply of 9No GE frame 9 gas turbines and auxiliaries at the cost of N185billion ($1.55 billion) awarded to Rockson International.

“In comparison, it is noteworthy that GE supplied 18No turbines of similar specification previously at about $404 million, including cost of Technical Assistance (TA) services and Long-Term Service agreements (LTSA). The implicit cost inflation on the 9No additional turbines and associated services exceeds $1.145 billion.

“Another example is the costing of the so-called change-order provisions for Alaoji Power Plant (Phase I) at a highly-questionable amount of $123 million.

“NIPP Distribution EPC contracts were awarded at costs averaging about 10 times the norm when compared to PHCN contracts costs for similar projects in the past five years. This 1,000 per cent cost inflation of the NIPP Distribution EPC work scopes translates to an aggregate overpricing of over N50 billion.”

On the funding of NIPP projects, the panel said: “The contracts were not funded from any Appropriation Act. What this means is that the National Assembly had no knowledge of the source of the funds of the NIPP projects.

“All the government functionaries who testified referred to what they termed Excess Crude Account as the source of funding.

On the role of the CBN, the panel’s report adds: “The committee is perturbed by the failure of the CBN governor to provide information in respect of Letters of Credit opened and where the money involving over $1 billion has been kept all these years

“It is necessary to note that the CBN refused to provide the committee with schedule of utilisation and draw-downs on Letters of Credit as well as interest accrued on unutilised balances.

“The committee strongly believes that these monies might be on fixed deposit accounts with some banks.

“In view of the apparent unwillingness of the CBN to cooperate with the committee in this matter, or provide the committee with a proper account of withdrawals from Excess Crude Account, the balance on the account, where the monies in respect of the unutilised Letters of Credit are kept and interest that have accrued thereto, we recommend that the EFCC be invited to investigate the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation and the Central Bank of Nigeria in respect of the above issues relating to Letters of Credit opened.”

Besides recommending the termination of 13 contracts and the review of 10 projects, the panel recommended 15 contracting and consulting companies for investigation by appropriate agencies.

The projects for review are: Owerri-Ahoada-Yenagoa Trx Line; Alaoji-Calabar 330kv Dc Trx Line; Maiduguri 330/132kv S/S; Alaoji-Umuahia 132kv DC Trx Line; Gombe Damaturu-Maiduguri 330kv Trx Line; Calabar 330/132/33kv S/S; Arochukwu 132/33kv S/S; Ado-Ekiti 132/33Kv S/S; Umuahia 132/33kv S/S and Damturu 330/132/33kv S/S.

Those for cancellation are 2nd Benin-Onitsha 330Kv Trx Line; Gombe-Yola-Jalingo 330kv Trx Line; Katampe-National Stadium 132kv DC Trx Line; Umuahia- Mbalano 132 kv Trx Line; Mbalano-Okigwe 132kv Trx Line; Yola 330/132/33kv S/S; Umuahia-Ohafia 132 Trx Line; Ohafia-Arochukwu 132 kv Trx Line; Mbalano 132/33kv S/S; Okigwe 132/33kv S/S; Ohafia 132/33kv S/S; Akure-Ado-Ekiti 132kv SC Trx Line; and Onitsha 330/132/33kv S/S.

The report added: “Having reviewed the figures provided by the Ministry of Energy (Power), the NDPHC, the PHCN, the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation , the CBN, the Revenue Mobilisation, Fiscal and Allocation Commission (RMFAC), the Office of the Auditor-General of the Federation, the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC), Federal Ministry of Finance and the Budget Office of the Federation, the Committee came to the following findings of fact:

“From all available evidence, the strategic plan for transforming the electric power sector envisaged in the Electric Power Sector Reform Act 2005 has not been faithfully prosecuted or diligently implemented.

“The investigation revealed widespread and flagrant abuse of legal process, resulting in avoidable waste, continued power failure and inestimable human suffering on the part of Nigerian masses.”

The report further highlighted specific lapses by the indicted institutions in charge of power reform.

Concerning the Ministry of Energy (Power), the committee said the Ministry, which ought to work with the NCP to “expeditiously complete the process of unbundling the defunct National Electric Power Authority as spelt out by the Act, did not live up to expectations.

“In this regard, the ministry failed in its duty to ensure that parastatals under its jurisdiction existed and carried out their functions in accordance with laws of the land.

“The committee strongly believes that no official or institution of government has a right to override the law or operate as if the law did not exist.

“There is no need for parliament to make laws at all as if the laws are to be flagrantly ignored and abused by institutions and officers of government. Without rules, the country has not even started on the road to progress.

“It was found that either by acts of omission or commission, the Federal Ministry of Energy (Power) turned a blind eye to the illegality of PHCN continuing to oversee the power sector long after the expiry of the period allowed for its existence under the law.”

On the NCP, the committee said from the evidence adduced by relevant sector operators during the hearings, “it is apparent that the NCP since 2006 abdicated its responsibilities in respect of the management of the reforms in the power sector.

“Section 3, sub-section 1 of the Electric Power Sector Reform Act 2005 authorised the NCP to fix an initial transfer date of the assets and liabilities of PHCN to the successor companies contemplated by and prescribed by the Act.

“The NCP via an official Gazette fixed the transfer date to be July 1, 2005. The same Act authorised and mandated NCP in Section 10(1) to not later than one year from the initial transfer date to transfer the assets and liabilities of PHCN to the unbundled successor companies.

“The NCP directed PHCN to transfer its assets, employees, liabilities, rights and obligations to the 18 companies arising out of the unbundling exercise commencing March 1, 2006 and also adopted June 30, 2006 as the transfer date. Flowing from the above, the PHCN ceased to exist as of that date and should have been wound up immediately thereafter.”

Regarding PHCN, the committee said by virtue of ESPRA Act 2005, it is an illegal body.

The report said: “In spite of the above provisions of the law, the PHCN continued to operate, in direct contravention of the ESPRA Act 2005 as well as the gazetted orders at the NCP.

“From the testimony of the CEOs of the unbundled companies, which was corroborated by the coordinator of PHCN liaison unit, it is clear that the transfers contemplated and mandated by the Act were only carried out cosmetically.

“The continued existence of PHCN as an amorphous or inchoate agglomeration of dysfunctional and powerless successor companies or a resurgent NEPA is a clear violation of the law and is not imbued with any potential to grapple with the grave power challenges facing the nation.”

“The PHCN is stinking of large scale corruption,” the committee wrote in its report.

It went on: “The public hearing and site visits exposed high-level corruption and unspeakable inefficiency and waste in the execution of project and disbursement of funds meant for power projects.

“From all available facts, a prima facie evidence of corruption and inappropriate disbursement of funds amounting to corrupt practices and economic sabotage have been established.

“In spite of the cosmetic unbundling, nothing was done to check the culture of impunity that had eaten deep down into the administrative structure of NEPA/PHCN over the decades.”

Another aspect of the report bordered on the funding of the controversial NIPP.

The committee said the funding strategy was abandoned for withdrawals from Excess Crude Account by the Obasanjo administration.

It added: “Contrary to the funding strategy for the MSPSND/NDHC/ NIPP projects articulated by the Steering Committee and the Presidential Implementation Committee of NIPP and approved by President Obasanjo in June 2005, funding for these projects became solely dependent on withdrawals from the Excess Crude Account.

“From the testimony of the former Finance Minister Mrs. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala and the Minister of State for Finance, Mrs. Nenadi Usman, funding of the NIPP from the Excess Crude Account was conceived as a loan to be repaid to the accounts of the Federal, State and Local Governments at a later date.”

Confusion

But the EFCC, in a report by its former Acting Chairman, Ibrahim Lamorde, cleared ex-President Obasanjo of any involvement in the NIPP fraud.

The report of the anti-graft agency said in part: “After an in-depth investigation and rigorous check on all documents relating to these contracts, the payments made so far, and the contractors handling the project, it is impossible to draw a nexus between the former President or any individual or companies associated with him and the proceed accruing from the contract payments.”

Ekiti 2018: Fayemi Should Pick Muslim Deputy- Prof Ishaq AKINTOLA
User Avatar Forum: Politics
Posted by: Edoman - 05-23-2018, 09:22 PM - No Replies

The Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) is on the same page with the state branch of NACOMYO. We can see the fingers of the state governor, Ayodele Fayose in the pie being fried for the PDP’s gubernatorial candidate, Olusola. We have no iota of doubt that Fayose influenced the decision to pick a Muslim as deputy for Olusola for his own selfish reasons.

While we admit that it is a deft move, we wish to throw a caveat emptor. Ekiti Muslims should not repose their trust in Ayodele Fayose because of his antecedents. Fayose, a Muslim-hater, is bending all over to exploit Muslims. Having realized that his time is up and that his choice candidate has a very slim chance, Fayose is now courting Muslim votes to shore up his lapses.

Fayose wants to eat his cake and still have it. But what did he do with the Muslims during his tenure? How many Muslims did he appoint to political positions? MURIC cried out in September 2015 over Fayose’s all Christian cabinet. What does Fayose think he can still do for Muslims when he had a Christian Deputy Governor, a Christian speaker, a Christian Deputy Speaker, and a Christian Chief of Staff? What does he and his party want with Muslims now after ignoring our cries for four good years? It is too late. Clowning will not help. Wearing turban will not help either. The die is cast.

All the state’s judges under Fayose are Christians. All the fourteen (14) commissioners in the State are Christians. All the twenty six (26) permanent secretaries are Christians. Fayose only gave Muslims one Special adviser. Special adviser my foot!

He did not stop there. All the state’s 5-member boards are Christians including Only one Muslim is a board member in the whole of Ekiti. The 7-member boards of colleges of education and that of health technology are all Christians. All the sixteen (16) education secretaries are Christians while all the sixteen (16) local government caretaker chairmen are Christians except one.

Fayose deliberately impoverished Muslims. Even the Muslim deputy he has picked now is the only local government chairman in the state. So he is not new in Fayose’s administration. It is a dirty trick. Muslims in the state should ‘shine their eyes’ very well.

Those who say South West people are tolerant should borrow a leaf from this. It is the Muslims who are bearing the brunt. There is no religious tolerance in the South West. As individual Christians and Muslims, yes. We live together in the same houses and work together in the same workplaces. Christians and Muslims exist in the same families. We also intermarry. But as a body of Muslims, capital ‘NO’. Anything that will benefit South West Muslims or Islam as an institution is always fiercely resisted by South West Christians.

The only way to checkmate Fayose now is for the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to also pick a Muslim as his running mate. Muslims in the state know Fayemi very well. Unlike Fayose who is a Muslim-hater, Fayemi showed Muslims love when he was governor in the state. Fayemi’s wife, a very decent woman, is a practicing Muslim. It was Fayemi, a Christian governor, who made the bold move of issuing the circular which allowed female Muslim students in the state to use hijab. Fayemi is a liberal to the core.

MURIC wants Ekiti Muslims to know their true friends and to know those who want to deceive them. “Fool me once, shame on you. But fool me again, shame on me.” There goes the wise saying. We will not be enslaved twice. Was it not Fayose who went on mosque-demolition sprees? Is it so long ago? Who ordered the shutting down of your Arabic classes in Ado Ekiti?

Was it not the same Fayose who got power-drunk that he publicly lambasted our revered Shaykh Muhyideen the famous Ansarud-deen preacher? Can he do that to his pastor? What did his party do about his atrocities? Did they make any attempt to placate Muslims in the state? Fayose is a Muslim hater and Ekiti Muslims should not come near him with a long pole, particularly at this crucial period. Those who have ignored us and oppressed us all this while cannot, with any iota of sincerity, claim to be our friends in election period.

In the meantime we exhort all Muslims in Ekiti State to get their PVCs. We are not advocating religion as a criterion in voting. Vote for true democrats and cool-headed politicians. Vote for diligence. Vote for integrity. Avoid Fayose and other unpredictable politicians who have made life miserable for you in the past. Avoid those who demolish your mosques and those who closed your Arabic classes. It is pay back time and the exercise is just beginning. We can’t wait to see Fayose in Kirikiri. The evil that men do…

Pastor Sentenced To Death By Hanging Cries Out As He Repents In Prison. Photo

Rev.Chibuike Ezeokeke, a self acclaimed pastor of the Holy Junction Prayer Ministry in Okpo Ekwulobia, Anambra state who is now on the death row cell of the Enugu medium prison has reportedly cried out, asking for God's divine intervention in his ordeal.

Pastor Ezeokeke was found guilty of murder and condemned to death by hanging by the Court 1of the Anambra State High,Ekwulobia presided over by His Lordship, Justice P.Obiora on June 21 last year for killing his cousin, Mr Emmanuel Ezeokeke.

Pastor Chibuike is only waiting for the hangman's appointment, having lost 90 days of appeal grace on September 2017.

The Ekwulobia UrbanNews learnt that the pastor's travails began on May 6th, 2009 when he stabbed late Emmanuel, son of his sister, Rita Okonkwor, nee Ezeokeke during a fight over the family's land.

Pastor Chibuike had built on a land the late Emmanuel and his mother Rita believed was their share of the family lands, but the pastor disapproved and asked his sister and her son to meet the first son of their father, Louis, whom the pastor accused of selling the very land apportioned to Emmanuel.

Pastor Chibuike after stabbing Emmanuel to death, absconded with his family of six to an unknown destination resulting in the police putting a tag on him and declaring him wanted.

According to reports, nobody knew his whereabouts until November 2010, sixteen months after killing his cousin when he was sighted in a town called Akpugoeze in Enugu state near Orumba North local government area of Anambra.

Someone who knew him while he was doing commercial bike business had alerted the neighborhood and told them about the pastor's case in Ekwulobia. And that was how he was almost lynched at the scene of his capture before the arrival of detectives of the homicide division of the Aguata Divisional Police headquarters Ekwulobia.

It was said that Pastor Chibuike was caught while organizing a church crusade in Akpugoeze.

On June 21,2017,the presiding judge found Pastor Chibuike guilty as charged and sentenced him to death by hanging without option of fine.

Pastor Chibuike had 90 days grace to appeal against the judgement, starting from the date it was delivered, but he never did.

He is now from the death row inmate cell of the Enugu medium prison hoping for a divine intervention to escape from the hangman's appointment.

Ekwulobia UrbanNews exclusively learnt that Pastor Chibuike has equally began evangelical works among his fellow condemned inmates of the prison with a view to turning a new leaf and be part of any prerogative of mercy measures anytime by the Anambra state governor, Sir Willie Obiano.

Charity Bassey, Airport Cleaner Returns $6000 (N2M) She Found In The Toilet
User Avatar Forum: Other Stories

Coming at a time Nigeria’s international image is not too good with the incessant cases of corruption in the country, a cleaner at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Ikeja, Lagos State, Charity Bassey, recently did the unexpected when she found a nylon containing $6,000 valued at over N2 million, and turned it in to security officials at the terminal.

The cleaner, an employee of Lakewood Development Company, which is into janitorial services, was on duty at the departure wing of the airport when she picked up the item from the floor. According to her, she was standing in front of the toilet when a passenger drew her attention to something inside the toilet.

“I went in and saw the small black nylon on the floor. It looked dirty and rough, you won’t know it is money that was inside it. I picked it, felt some notes inside and took it to the customer care. I was given a glove to bring out the contents and I counted 60 pieces of $100 dollar bills.”

When asked what was the reward for her honesty, she said nothing.

“Nobody gave me anything, the manager, company or even the owner who later came back looking for the money. I am however, not discouraged as I do my best to do a good job with clear conscience. This is not the first time I am picking up forgotten items like wallets, phones, small bags and even money. I have always returned them to the frontline desk or customer care desk,” she said.

FFK: Obasanjo Made Mistake By Not Jailing Buhari"
User Avatar Forum: Retired Forums. Please Make Your Post Within The 3 Forums In General Discussion
Posted by: Edoman - 05-23-2018, 04:22 PM - No Replies

Femi Fani-Kayode (FFK) has reacted to a statement credited to President Buhari in which he said ex-president Olusegun Obasanjo has questions to answer concerning power project.

While speaking to supporters at the Abuja Villa, Buhari said, “You know the rail was killed and one of the former heads of state was bragging that he spent more than 15 billion American dollars on power. Where is the power?” he had asked.

However, Obasanjo has responded stating that the president’s claim is based on ignorance. Below is a statement he released.

Quote:It has come to the attention of Chief Olusegun Obasanjo that a statement credited to President Muhammadu Buhari, apparently without correct information and based on ignorance, suggested that $16 billion was wasted on power projects by “a former President”. We believe that the President was re-echoing the unsubstantiated allegation against Chief Obasanjo by his own predecessor but one.

While it is doubtful that a President with proper understanding of the issue would utter such, it should be pointed out that records from the National Assembly had exculpated President Obasanjo of any wrong-doing concerning the power sector and has proved the allegations as false.

For the records, Chief Obasanjo has addressed the issues of the power sector and the allegations against him on many occasions and platforms, including in his widely publicised book, My Watch in which he exhaustively stated the facts and reproduced various reports by both the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), which conducted a clinical investigation into the allegations against Chief Obasanjo, and the Ad-Hoc Committee on the Review of the Recommendations in the Report of the Committee on Power on the Investigation into how the Huge Sums Of Money was Spent on Power Generation, Transmission And Distribution between June 1999 and May 2007 without Commensurate Result.

We recommend that the President and his co-travellers should read Chapters 41, 42, 43 and 47 of My Watch for Chief Obasanjo’s insights and perspectives on the power sector and indeed what transpired when the allegation of $16 billion on power projects was previously made. If he cannot read the three-volume book, he should detail his aides to do so and summarise the chapters in a language that he will easily understand.

In the same statement credited to the President, it was alleged that there was some bragging by Chief Obasanjo over $16 billion spent on power. To inform the uninformed, the so-called $16 billion power expenditure was an allegation against Chief Obasanjo’s administration and not his claim. The President also queried where the power generated is. The answer is simple: The power is in the seven National Integrated Power Projects and eighteen gas turbines that Chief Obasanjo’s successor who originally made the allegation of $16 billion did not clear from the ports for over a year and the civil works done on the sites.

Chief Obasanjo challenges, and in fact encourages, anybody to set up another enquiry if in doubt and unsatisfied with the EFCC report and that of the Hon. Aminu Tambuwal-led ad-hoc committee.

Reacting to the claim by President Buhari concerning Obasanjo and the power project issue, former aviation minister, Femi Fani-Kayode (FFK), stated that Obasanjo made a big mistake by not jailing Buhari for looting PTF funds.

His tweet:

Quote:”The greatest mistake that OBJ made was not to prosecute and jail @MBuhari for looting PTF funds.I saw the report and it was shocking.Billions of dollars had vanished. OBJ summoned him and showed him the damning report.Buhari begged like a baby.Sadly OBJ let him off the hook.”

Court Grants Efcc’s Request To Try Metuh In Absentia.
User Avatar Forum: Politics
Posted by: Edoman - 05-23-2018, 04:08 PM - No Replies

By Ikechukwu Nnochiri ABUJA – Justice Okon Abang of the Federal High Court in Abuja has granted leave to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, to try the embattled former National Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Chief Olisa Metuh, in absentia. METUH The court said it was satisfied that Metuh has jumped bail, saying there was no reasonable explanation to justify his absence for continuation of trial. Justice Abang agreed with EFCC that Metuh had on Monday, engaged in gross misconduct when he disobediently attempted to enter the dock after the court had permitted him to remain where he was initially seated.
He noted that Metuh subsequently fell down on his own and disrupted proceedings by whispering loundly in the open court and groaning intermittently, “giving the impression that he was in serious pain”. “The 1st defendant has no right to hold this court to ransom by doing things or taking steps deliberately intended to scuttle his trial. “The 1st defendant has repeatedly made the court of law look like an accident scene. This conduct should not be allowed in the temple of justice”, Justice Abang held. He said Metuh had since April 2016 when EFCC closed its case, repeatedly “erected several road blocks aimed at frustrating this trial”. “In a bid to dismantle those road blocks, the court was accused of being biased and conducting unfair trial. However, this court will stand its ground and always do what is right”, Justice Abang added. He said Metuh “ignored a humane disposition of the court” by insisting on entering the dock, saying his action amounted to gross misconduct and wilful disobedience to the authority of the court. While invoking the provision of section 266 of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act, 2015, Justice Abang said: “I do not think that further hearing of this case in the absence of 1st defendant will in any way affect his right to fair hearing under section 36 of the 1999 Constitution”. Before adjourning the case till Thursday for continuation of the trial in Metuh’s absence, Justice Abang summoned the General Manager of Channels TV and the anchor of Sunrise Today, Maukpe Ogun Yusuf, to appear before him on Friday to show cause why an order should not be made to compel them to produce an unedited video recording of May 22 edition of the program where prejudicial comments were made concerning the court proceeding. Metuh is answering to a seven-count charge alongside his firm, Destra Investment Ltd. EFCC alleged that he received N400million from the Office of the National Security Adviser, ONSA, prior to the 2015 presidential election, without executing any contract. More details later.

Thumbs Down NA Decries Delay in Mace Theft Investigation, 'It may take 10 years.. Police
User Avatar Forum: Politics
Posted by: Edoman - 05-23-2018, 01:51 PM - Replies (1)

Quote:By Ismail Mudashir

The National Assembly panel, probing invasion of the Senate yesterday decried delay in completion of police investigation on the matter, over a month after the incident.

The joint committee of Senate and House co-chaired by Senator Bala Ibn Na-Allah (APC, Kebbi) and Rep Betty Apiafi (PDP, Rivers) made the position known, when the commissioner of police in charge of IG monitoring unit, Abu Sani appeared before the panel.

Suspected thugs numbering five had on April 18, this year invaded the Senate and carted away with the Mace, the symbol of authority of the Senate.

Sani had told the committee that the investigation into the matter was inconclusive and assured the panel that they were working to get to the root of the matter.

He said the suspects arrested in connection with the matter have denied their involvement.

“The CCTV that was supposed to capture what happened from outside to inside the chamber was not functional. That would have assisted in puncturing the denial of the suspects,” he said.

He said the internal security of the hallowed chamber that was left in the hands of the Sergeant at arms compounded the matter.

He said the Sergeant at arms (National Assembly) relied on GSM to communicate rather than radio when the thugs struck.

The police commissioner said they were still trying to establish the link between the suspects in their custody and those that carted away with the Mace. He presented an interim report of the police to the panel.

Our correspondent reports that when Rep Apiafi expressed reservation over the delay in the completion of the investigation, Sani said it could take up to 10years. She replied by saying it could even be 30 years.

In his submission, Na’Allah said the police was not adhering to rule of law in their investigation, “Otherwise the suspects would have been charged to court through FIR (First Information Report).”

Why I won’t talk - Omo-Agege

Senator Ovie Omo-Agege (APC, Delta) declined to speak when he appeared before the panel.

“I would have loved to take this opportunity to respond to the allegations raised. But I am here to inform you that I have gone to court and parties have been served.

“The action was taken on the May 21, 2018 and all the parties enumerated have been served.”

Ndume denies directing mace bearer

Senator Ali Ndume (APC,Borno) yesterday denied the allegation that he stopped the deputy mace bearer from taking the mace from the table when the thugs struck.

Ndume spoke when he appeared before the panel, saying he lacked the authority to do so. He promised to submit a memo to the panel on how to review the National Assembly security architecture.

“I didn’t know in my whole years in this National Assembly that we are that exposed, for some people to just come in and take the mace and run away.

“For me to prevent somebody or to advise somebody not to do his job is just totally out of place because I don’t have the authority to do that. I did not do that, I cannot do that and I’m not supposed to do that,” he said.
