Buhari: Saraki, Dogara Under Fire Over Impeachment Threat
User Avatar Forum: Politics
Posted by: Edoman - 06-06-2018, 09:35 AM - No Replies

Some members of the House of Representatives, Bashir Baballe and Abubakar Chika, have condemned the Senate President, Bukola Saraki and Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara for leading the move to impeach President Muhammadu Buhari.

On Tuesday, the National Assembly at a joint session, on Tuesday, threatened to invoke its powers against the President, if nothing was done to end the ongoing killings in the country, kidnappings, humiliation of perceived political opponents of the president among other reasons.

Reacting, Bashir Baballe, who represents Ungogo/Minjibir Federal Constituency, Kano, wondered why the lawmakers never found it expedient to call for joint session until after security details of the President of the Senate and Speaker of the House were partially withdrawn.

“It is baffling that when people are killed in different parts of the country, the leaders of the National Assembly did not deem it right to call for the joint session until when the security details of Saraki and Dogara were withdrawn a couple of days ago”, he told Daily Nigerian.

“The last time joint session was held was when the Senate chamber was intruded by thugs. No joint session was convened when communities were intruded and people killed by gunmen.

“They simply convened the session because they have some sinister motives.

“On the issue of humiliation, I will say that ‘he comes to equity must come with clean hands’. What was the crime of Senator Ali Ndume and Rep Abdulmumin Jibrin that they were humiliated and suspended by the leadership of the Senate and House?”

Baballe, who is the vice chairman of the House Committee on National Planning, said he raised the issue of insecurity three times on the floor of the House, advising the principal officers of the House to go and meet the president.

“Why didn’t they consider it appropriate to meet the president over insecurity in the country in the past?” Baballe asked.

The lawmaker also faulted the National Assembly’s resolution on the Buhari administration’s fight against corruption, urging his colleagues facing investigations should clear their names.

“If you are accused of corruption, go and clear your name and stop the blame game,” he added.

Simikary, Abubakar Chika, who represents Shiroro/Rafi/Munya Federal Constituency, said the National Assembly should stop crying foul and wake to its responsibility.

He faulted passing vote of no confidence on the Inspector General of Police Ibrahim Idris, saying members opposed the move when it was raised in the House.

Okorocha: Oyegun Should Go To Jai
User Avatar Forum: Politics
Posted by: Edoman - 06-06-2018, 09:25 AM - No Replies

Quote:By Steve Uzoechi OWERRI

Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo state has declared that going by the way Chief John Odigie-Oyegun has managed the affairs of the All Progressives Congress (APC), the outgoing APC national chairman was apparently overrated by leaders of the party who had allowed him to succeed Chief Bisi Akande as party chairman.

Okorocha who spoke through his Chief Press Secretary, Sam Onwuemeodo maintained that Chief Oyegun has taken the Party several years backward to the extent that today, there is no State chapter of the party where there is no crisis or factions.

A statement by Onwuemeodo read in part, “The way Chief Oyegun has pursued the elongation of his tenure also showed how selfish and greedy, he is. He is not interested in the well-being or future of the party, but only interested in staying put as the National Chairman of the Party. And that is why he is after anybody who opposed the tenure elongation.

“The worst thing that would have happened to APC is to allow Chief Oyegun to continue as the National Chairman of the Party. It would have been worst for the Party. Chief Akande never tried to destroy the party when he was leaving as the pioneer Chairman, but Oyegun wants to destroy the party because he is leaving. He is not patriotic.”

He continued, “In the case of Imo, he disobeyed two court orders with regard to the congresses in Imo and the inauguration of strange elements as the state officials of the party just to get at Governor Okorocha because of the issue of elongation. And we have no option now than to ask our lawyers to press for his imprisonment and that of Osita Izunaso and all those who were involved in the lawlessness.”

The statement averred that the only thing Chief Oyegun has achieved in his ‘anger against Governor Okorocha is encouraging elements with no electoral value like Osita Okechukwu and those from Imo to be insulting the Governor. And these are people who cannot win their booths in an election’.

The same elements, he said, came together during the Anambra State governorship election.

“The governor stayed away and at the end of the day, they could not justify their noise making. They have also started again. And these are people who have been running election since 2007 and have not won any”, he said.

The statement warned that Imo APC members would not tolerate factionalization of the party.

“In case Chief Oyegun does not know, Imo APC members won’t allow any faction. The APC in Imo and even in the South-East is Governor Okorocha’s making. And it will be foolish of anybody to think that he would build the party and allow cowards to take it over. If they have the political strength, let them go and pick a party and present a candidate, and it will be very interesting”, the statement stressed.

Offa robbery : 4 gang leaders accompanied Saraki to sympathise with Offa monarch

Say Saraki must explain why he purchased prohibited arms for robbers By Kingsley Omonobi Abuja—The Police said, yesterday, that 48 hours after the Offa bank robbery that claimed the lives of over 30 persons, including nine policemen, four of the gang leaders accompanied the Senate President, Dr Bukola Saraki, to the palace of the Olofa of Offa, Oba Muftau Gbadamosi Esuwoye, to sympathise with him. They also said it was necessary for the Senate President to explain why he purchased prohibited arms for the suspects, insisting he had a case to answer.

A source at the SARS office in Abuja, told Vanguard, yesterday, that contrary to widely publicized report, which indicated that Saraki was invited because of his role in the robbery attack, the Senate President was only invited to explain why he allegedly purchased illegal and prohibited weapons used to kill innocent and law-abiding people.

Photo by Gbemiga Olamikan. According to the source, “it is an offence to purchase prohibited weapons for criminals in whatever guise, be it thuggery or whatever you call it. “For your information, 48 hours after the Offa armed robbery operation and killings, the four gang leaders of the group that perpetrated the devilish act, accompanied the delegation of the Senate President to visit the Olofa of Offa to console with him over the killings.” The source disclosed that Police investigators during interrogation of the suspects also discovered that one of the gang leaders was putting on the same ankara clothing specially invited guests wore on the day of Bukola Saraki’s daughter’s wedding in Kwara State. “So from these and other discoveries, there is really the need for the Senate President to explain these links. Nobody is saying otherwise,’’ the source added.

Morning Devotional For Wednesday 6th June

RHAPSODY OF REALITIES

WEDNESDAY, 6TH JUNE.

THE WORD OF GOD IS GOD.

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God (John 1:1)
One of the extraordinary ways the Lord manifests Himself is in and through the Word. The Word of God created the universe. The Word of God is life. The Word of God is power. The Word of God is light. The Word of God is truth. The Word of God is God. Where the Word of God is, God is!

The Word of God isn’t like the word of a man. Centering your mind on the Word is centering your mind on God. The Bible says He keeps in perfect peace—peace of prosperity—the one whose mind is stayed on Him (Isaiah 26:3). The way to stay your mind on Him is meditating on the Word.

The Holy Spirit never does anything without the Word. For example, in Genesis chapter one, we read that in the beginning, God created the heaven and the earth. But the earth was without form and was empty and covered with darkness. Then the Spirit of God moved over the face of the waters, but nothing changed. The earth was still a chaotic mass until God said, “Let there be light” and light became. The Spirit of God caused the light to manifest. He acted on the Word. Until the Word is given, the Spirit does nothing.

Don’t ignore the Word; some Christians ignore the Word, and that’s so unwise. What you need for your next level or that miracle and promotion you so desire; what you need to prevail in any crisis and live victoriously every day, is the Word.

When you face challenges, when things get tough and rough, keep your confidence in the Word. Refuse to compromise. Get radical with your faith-affirmation and confession of the Word. As you speak, the Spirit will cause things to happen in accordance with your words, because the Word of God in your mouth is God talking! It’ll always prevail. Glory to God!

PRAYER

Dear heavenly Father, I thank you for the power of your Word in my life. Your Word produces life, light, health, wealth, prosperity, progress, advancement, and all the good things of life in me. My confidence is in your eternal Word, by which I live triumphantly every day, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.

FURTHER STUDY:

Isaiah 55:11 So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper [in the thing] whereto I sent it.

John 1:14 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.

Acts 20:32 And now, brethren, I commend you to God, and to the word of his grace, which is able to build you up, and to give you an inheritance among all them which are sanctified.

#AFFIRMATIONTRAIN

6TH JUNE.

I affirm that God has given me the ability to decide the quality of life that I want to live! Eternity is laid in my heart! Today, I unleash the forces of prosperity, health, and victory in my life, and disallow sickness, poverty, and defeat in my environment, home and in the lives of my loved ones.

I am not a child of chance; for God has prearranged my life for good. I walk those paths that have been laid out for me before the foundations of the world and I prosper in all my ways. God’s Word is in my heart and in my mouth; and as I study and meditate on the Word today, the circumstances of my day align with God’s will and purpose for me! I attract myself only to thoughts that are consistent with my destiny in Christ. Thoughts of victory, increase, success, health, and strength, in the Name of the Lord Jesus. Hallelujah! I refuse to see myself small in life, for the God whom I serve is the limit-breaker! I see my greatness, my increase and my influence bursting forth on every side in the name of Jesus! Glory to God. Hallelujah.

SPEAK IN OTHER TONGUES NOW

A woman has taken to Facebook to berate a teacher who allegedly injured a 4-year-old pupil after reportedly pushing him down from his desk. According to Eze Doreen who shared the news, after wounding the young boy, the teacher never bothered to notify his parents or the school authorities in order to administer first aid to him.

The young boy was reportedly left in pains till he went home with the injury.

According to information gathered, the two teachers handling the boy's class have been suspended by the school authorities.

Below is what Eze Doreen wrote on Facebook;

Some teacher are extremely wicked, heartless but money conscious. This kid of 4 years was pushed down by his teacher from a desk by 11:00am yesterday she never cared to call the child's parents nor report to the school authority for at least, the child to be given a first aid, she left the child in pains and went home. The child was in pain till 4:00pm when his mother came to pick him and his elder siblings.

What do you think should be the punishment for such a wicked teacher?

It would be recalled that in the past few days, activities of secret cults in the State has taken an alarming dimension following a fierce battle of supremacy between rival cult groups leading to loss of lives and wanton destruction of properties.   'information On Buhari’s London Treatment Can’t Be Released' - Court
User Avatar Forum: Retired Forums. Please Make Your Post Within The 3 Forums In General Discussion
Posted by: Edoman - 06-05-2018, 11:10 PM - No Replies

Delivering judgment in a lawsuit filed by a civil society group, Advocacy for Societal Rights Advancement and Development Initiative, a Federal High Court in Abuja ruled on Tuesday that information about the amount of taxpayer fund suspected to have been expended on President Muhammadu Buhari’s treatment in London last year, could not be released under the Freedom of Information Act without the President’s consent.

Justice John Tsoho held that the information sought related to personal information of an elected person like Buhari, and which was exempted by Section 14(1)(b) of the FoI Act, 2011. Punch reported that he also ruled that the Central Bank of Nigeria and its Governor, Godwin Emefiele, could not be held liable for not disclosing the information, having transferred the group’s October 19, 2017 request to the Office of the Chief of Staff to the President.

According to him, the plantiff ought to have followed up on information about President Buhari's treatment with the Office of the Chief of Staff, but refused to take advantage of it, thereby depriving itself of an definite answer from the government.

The‎ name of the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, was also struck out as the third defendant on the grounds that “no reasonable cause of action” was disclosed against him.  He also struck out the plaintiff’s request for damages, and further ruled that the suit was “bound to fail.”

Recall that President spent 103 days in London receiving treatment for an undisclosed ailment in 2017. Alleging that the President’s overseas medical expenses were paid from the Nigerian treasury, a civil society group, Advocacy for Societal Rights Advancement and Development Initiative, had written a letter dated October 19, 2017 to the CBN requesting on the strength of the Freedom of Information Act, 2011, the details of the spending.

The group had also requested information on what it cost the country to keep the presidential aircraft and crew for 103 days at the Stansted Airport in the United Kingdom while President Buhari’s medical treatment lasted. When the CBN bank failed to yield to its demands, the group filed a suit marked FHC/ABJ/CS/1142/2017 before the Federal High Court in Abuja, praying for an order compelling the apex bank to release the information sought.

National Assembly Lists Resolutions After Marathon Meeting
User Avatar Forum: Retired Forums. Please Make Your Post Within The 3 Forums In General Discussion
Posted by: Edoman - 06-05-2018, 08:23 PM - No Replies

After marathon meeting between the House of
Representatives and the Senate, the National Assembly on Tuesday listed conditions for peace between the legislature and the executive arms of government.

The lawmakers, arising from the over two hours closed
meeting, also threatened to invoke their constitutional
powers should the President fail to adhere to the
resolutions as they passed a vote of no confidence on
the Inspector General of police, Idris Ibrahim.

Here are the resolutions:

Senate President Bukola Saraki reports that at the joint
session, the National Assembly resolved as follows:

1. The Security Agencies must be given marching orders to contain all the sustained killings of Nigerians
and protect the lives and properties of Nigerians — as
this is the primary duty for any responsible government.

2. The systemic harassment by the executive of perceived political opponents — people with contrary
opinions in the legislature and the judiciary — by the
police and other security agencies must stop.

3. There must be strict adherence to the rule of law and protection for all citizens by the President and all his appointees.

4. The President must be held accountable for the
actions of his appointees and must be ready to sanction, those that carry out any act, that will ridicule
or endanger the country and our democracy.

5. The government should show sincerity in the fight
against corruption by not being selective and also
prosecute current appointees that have cases pending
against them.

6. The sanctity of the National Assembly should be
protected and preserved by the federal government and
prosecute those who invaded the Senate to seize the
mace.

7. Democratic elections must be competitive and inclusive by removing the current reign of fear and
intimidation — particularly as we approach the
forthcoming 2019 elections.

8. The National Assembly will liaise with the
international community through the IPU, the APU,
ECOWAS Parliament, Pan-African Parliament, EU, US
Congress and the United Nations to secure our democracy. The National Assembly will also engage
with civil society organizations trade unions and NGOs
to further deepen and protect our democracy.

9. The President must take immediate steps to curtail
the growing level of poverty and unemployment in
Nigeria — especially now that we have an advantage
of high oil prices.

10. Both chambers of the National Assembly hereby
pass a vote of confidence on the Senate President, the
Speaker and the entire leadership of the National
Assembly.

11. We also hereby reaffirm our earlier resolution on
the vote of no confidence on the Inspector General of
Police, who does nothing but preside over innocent
Nigerians with an outright disregard for constitutional
authority of both the executive and the legislature.

12. The National Assembly will not hesitate to invoke
its constitutional powers if nothing is done to address
the above resolutions passed today.

Pdp warns Inec over refusal to withdraw 4000 Apc members they secretely registered as Independent Observers.

Pdp has taken to its official twitter handle to ask INEC to withdraw the 4,000 @APCNigeria members it secretly registered as independent observers for the July 14 and September 22 governorship elections in Ekiti and Osun states respectively.

They wrote:  The @inecnigeria, under Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, is fueling trouble following its refusal to withdraw the 4,000 @APCNigeria members it secretly registered as independent observers for the July 14 and September 22 governorship elections in Ekiti and Osun states respectively.

"Buhari Not A Man" – Ahmad Lawan
User Avatar Forum: Retired Forums. Please Make Your Post Within The 3 Forums In General Discussion
Posted by: Edoman - 06-05-2018, 08:17 PM - No Replies

The Senate Leader, Ahmad Lawan says President Muhammadu Buhari is not a man, but a phenomenon.

Sen. Lawan, while hosting members of the North East Youth Coalition for President Buhari (NEYCPB) in his office, said Buhari is a phenomenon because his persona is now a movement and not a single personality.

He stated that Buhari didn’t come into government for personal enrichment, thereby urging Nigerians to join him to help solve problems facing Nigeria.

Lawan said, “Buhari is a phenomenon; it’s a movement. What I mean here, let me not be misquoted. When I said Buhari is not a man, Buhari is an attitude to life, what is that attitude? Integrity and commitment.

“He came into politics not to make money. It is our duty as citizens not to allow the president to do it alone. No matter how you are, how equipped you are, when it comes to leadership and administration, especially of a country that is as complex Nigeria, you need every hand to be on deck.

“That is what we are trying to do; that is what the coalition is seeking to do. When the president came in 2015, the first actions he took were necessary to rescue and secure the North East.

“The North East has been rescued. Insurgency, once it starts, it doesn’t stop like when rain starts and stops.

“You will always find from time to time some signs that they are still there. But the signs have been reduced to suicide bombing of soft targets, not declaring a caliphate with headquarters in Bama or anywhere else. We really owe gratitude to our president,” he said.

What Saraki, Dogara, Other Npdp Members Actually Want – Oyegun
User Avatar Forum: Retired Forums. Please Make Your Post Within The 3 Forums In General Discussion
Posted by: Edoman - 06-05-2018, 08:14 PM - No Replies

The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, has spoken on the activities of the New Peoples Democratic Party, nPDP, a group within the ruling party.

Oyegun said members of the nPDP are only looking for a good bargain themselves, adding that they (nPDP) cannot choose this time to dump the other political parties.

He said that the President of the Senate, Bukola Saraki, Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara and others were only acting like people who want the best for themselves. Oyegun ruled out any possibility of the group decamping to other parties.

Oyegun told reporters, “The process is still ongoing, and until we reach an understanding with them, it won’t be right to comment, but I think we have tended to read too much that is negative into their act.

“I just have a feeling that like all people who want the best terms for themselves, they will come out at a period which they feel is advantageous to them.

“Given the state of the polity, I suppose they chose this time not because they want to leave the APC; not because they were fed up with the APC, not because they want to cause trouble with the APC, but because they want a good deal for themselves given the totality of what is going on in the party.

“So, we have accepted their protest in good faith, and we are sitting down with them to work out something that will be mutually beneficial to both interests.”

Atiku's Supporters Lambast Sagay: You Engage In Beer Parlour Gossips
User Avatar Forum: Retired Forums. Please Make Your Post Within The 3 Forums In General Discussion
Posted by: Edoman - 06-05-2018, 08:13 PM - No Replies

1. The attention of the All-Atiku Support Groups, umbrella body of millions of supporters of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, has been drawn to a newspaper report credited to the Chairman, Presidential Advisory Committee Against Corruption (PACAC) Professor Itse Sagay.

2. The AASG wishes to correct the erroneous impression which the purported claim by someone in the calibre of Professor Sagay must have painted in the minds of the unsuspecting public and innocent Nigerians, most of whom are lovers of the former Vice President of Nigeria and Waziri Adamawa, Atiku Abubakar.

3. It is indeed sad and in bad taste that Itse Sagay, a learned Professor of Law for that matter, and someone who by his calling, training and experience is expected to know better and sufficiently informed is the one who made such mischievous statement alluding to, and implying the idea that refusal to grant a request for an entry visa by the United States of America which was based on “Administrative” procedure, is a prerequisite and precondition for qualification to becoming the President of a sovereign nation like Nigeria.

4. We hold strongly that it is the prerogative of the United States of America or any other country for that matter, its embassies, diplomatic missions and consulates to grant entry visa to whoever it pleases, but also hold that denial of same for whatever reason as they may deem fit does not qualify anyone of criminal complicity. Several Nigerians have been denied in the past, and many more will still be denied, but Nigerian citizens so denied are not criminals. Waziri Atiku Abubakar is no exception.

6. The United States of America has never at any time accused nor alluded to any legal or criminal infraction against Waziri Atiku Abubakar and one would have thought it answers to intelligence, common sense and the calling of Professor Sagay to speak to facts of law in this regard and not corner street discussions, beer parlour gossips, rumours and hearsays.

7. Atiku Abubakar has been out of government since 2007; and that is about eleven years ago; as a businessman and a successful one at that, he has travelled to several countries all over the world including the United Kingdom, and many of these countries signed extradition pact with the United States of America, and he has not been declared wanted in any.

8. We observed that Professor Sagay has been so eager to retain his job with the present administration and nothing would be considered too odious for him to please his employer and paymaster even if such puts his integrity at stake and push him to the lowest level of esteem. It beats every imagination that Professor Sagay has constantly overreached his core mandate in advisory capacity to Mr. President and has become another vocal tool in the propaganda machine of the APC.

9. However, we at All-Atiku Support Groups and indeed all men and women of goodwill have a different view about how political battles should be fought and won. We are of the view that our democracy, having gone through the crucibles of trials and errors should have matured to a level where issues, policies and programmes are the plank upon which public discourse should rest. We think persons in his status should be above petty and mischievous hearsays and beer-parlour gossips, a new vocation that Professor Sagay has suddenly graduated himself into.

10. Nigerians are, more than ever before, interested in robust discussions bordering on policies and programmes of the current administration and the APC led Federal government. They want to know how the policies and programmes have impacted positively on their lives and improve their living conditions and not deliberate ploys of the handlers of President Muhammadu Buhari to stifle dissenting voices and members of the opposition. Sadly, our democracy is the greatest victim of the self-righteous war which is being directed at hounding free citizens but sparring members of the exclusive club of APC and Aso Rock cabals.

11. We, therefore, call on President Muhammadu Buhari to rein in and call Professor Sagay to order on his not-too-responsible statements which are capable of hurting our hard won democracy.

Signed:

Oladimeji Fabiyi
Chairman, All-Atiku Support Groups
Abuja
5th June, 2018.

A video of pupils in Kano state being served food in sheets of paper has gone viral. The video was released by the Voice of America Hausa yesterday June 4th.

According to VOA Hausa, the pupils complained that the food they were being given lacked ingredients like the one their parents give to them at home.

When the reporter asked why the pupils were being served food on pieces of papers, the teachers who refused to give their names, said the Federal government told them they were going to provide them with plates but they are still waiting for the plates.

Recall that during the 2015 election campaign, one of the promises of APC was to provide lunch for school pupils. The School Feeding programme was launched after they came into power and has taken off in some states.

Falz: Girls Dancing Shaku Shaku In Hijab In 'This Is Nigeria' Video Intentional
User Avatar Forum: Other Stories

Rapper Folarin Falana aka Falz was a guest on Linda Ikeji TV’s show, Verified, hosted by Tope Olowoniyan recently where he spoke about his worries for Nigeria and how people missed the point of his new music video ”This is Nigeria”.

Controversies have continued to trail the music video because he used video vixens dressed in Hijab.

When asked if the video vixens dancing Shaku Shaku in Hijab was intentional, Falz said

”It was very intentional. We continue to forget or neglect the innocence of the girl child and because of all the issues that wer are having, the kidnappings and the killings especially in the Northern part of the country, the Chibok girls and very more recently the Dapchi girls, It is very disturbing and we don’t often talk about them and I was a bit surprised to hear people say why would you put girls in Hijab to dance Shaku Shaku…common, is there anything wrong with people dancing because they are wearing Hijabs? Is their any law against that?

Offa bank robbery: Police makes U-turn, demands written statement from Saraki

by Iniobong Iwok,
[Image: Offa-bank-robbery.jpg]
Senate President Bukola Saraki will no longer appear before the police for questioning.
Saraki In a post on his Twitter account yesterday, disclosed that he now has a formal communication from the police, but it was not for him to appear but rather to answer questions bordering on the robbery in Offa, Kwara State, in April.
“Following my earlier tweet, I have received the letter from the Nigerian police.
They are no longer asking me to appear at any station, but to respond in writing to the allegations within 48 hours which I plan to do,” Saraki revealed.
The announcement comes minutes after Vice President Yemi Osinbajo met behind closed-doors with Saraki and police chief, Ibrahim Idris, as well as the head of State Security Service, Lawal Daura, at the State House.

It also comes about four hours after Saraki announced he was yet to get a police invite.
The Senate president had earlier he said he dispatched his security details to the Force Headquarters in Abuja to ask the police for an invite which was not responded to.
The police had said on Sunday that some of the suspects in the Offa bank robbery confessed to being sponsored by the Senate president.
Meanwhile Vice President Yemi Osinbajo Monday, held meetings with heads of security agencies including Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris; the Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami and the Director-General of the Department of State Security, Lawal Daura, for over an hour.
The meeting came on the heels of the police invitation extended to Senate President Bukola Saraki, over alleged link with Offa robbery suspects.
President Muhammadu Buhari had earlier met with the service chiefs and heads of other security agencies.
The IGP refused to speak with State House correspondents after the meeting with Osinbajo, but instead referred them to the Vice President’s Aide de Camp (ADC). The meeting held behind closed-doors at the Vice President’s wing of the Aso Rock Presidential Villa in Abuja.
The meeting according to a Presidency source was said to be convened over the summons given to Senate President Bukola Saraki by the police over his alleged relationship with suspects arrested following the April 5 bank robbery in Offa, Kwara State.
Cornered by State House Correspondents to brief them on what the agenda of the meeting was about, the IGP said that all enquiries should be directed to the ADC to Osinbajo.

MURIC To Falz: "Withdraw ‘This Is Nigeria’ Video Within 7 Days Or Else
User Avatar Forum: Other Stories
Posted by: Edoman - 06-05-2018, 01:47 PM - No Replies

Quote:Below is a statement from the Muslim rights Concern group, MURIC, expressing displeasure at the recent music video, ‘This is Nigeria’ by rapper, Falz the Bahd guy;

Folarin Falana (Falz the Bahd Guy), a Nigerian artist, last week released a new song called ‘This is Nigeria’. The production featured a character that dressed like a Fulani man, who suddenly abandoned his traditional guitar and beheaded a man. It also portrayed women in hijab as choreographers dancing the ‘shaku-shaku’ (a dance associated with a drug-related song).

The Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) strongly denounces the Shaku Shaku dance video. It is thoughtless, insensitive and highly provocative. It is a hate video. It is Islamophobia nulli secundus. This video has the potential of causing religious crisi of unprecedented dimension. We therefore demand its withdrawal and an apology to Nigerian Muslims within seven days or the authors and their agents will face legal action if they fail to comply.

The video manifests ethnic bias against Fulanis while it ignored the criminal activities of ethnic militia of the Middle Belt who have also massacred Fulanis and rustled their cattles in their thousands. This video has denigrated Islam, demonized Nigerian Muslims and subjected them to public opprobium.

MURIC rejects Falz’ explanation that the the girls in hijab in his ‘Shaku Shaku’ dance symbolize the Chibok girls because nothing in the video indicates that the girls represent the Chibok girls. At least none of the Chibok girls have been seen dancing like a drunkard. They are always in pensive mood. Do they have any cause to be dancing? Are they happy? This video is the most detestable, odious and insidious Islam-bashing in recent time.

Only the scenes portraying police brutality and the money-swallowing snake in the video are near the truth. Falz’ ‘Shaku Shaku’ video is nothing but a hate-induced production. It is a most unpatriotic handiwork of a Nigerian youth in 2018. Here is the work of a youth working towards turning Nigerians against each other; a youth inciting Nigerian Christians to hate their Muslim neighbours; a youth instigating Muslims to religious violence. This video is in bad taste. It is a hate video. It is an assault on the self-dignity of every Muslim. It is freedom of expression gone haywire.

We call the attention of security agencies to this hate action. The tragedy facing modern societies all over the world is their criminal complicity in Islam-bashing and their hypocritical accusation of Muslims of terrorism and religious violence. On the contrary, terrorism is mere smoke. Provocation, derision and injustice are the fires which cause terrorism. We reiterate our pontification that it is naïve for a fire fighter to ignore the fire and turn his hose at the smoke. The world is treating symptoms, leaving the real ailment to fester.

We remind Nigerians of the outcome of similar provocative actions in the past and their unpalatable outcomes. The violent reaction of Nigerian Muslims to Fun Times magazine’s blasphemous story of December 1990 in which it was alleged that “Muhammad had an illicit affair with a woman of easy virtue according to the Qur’an and later married her” shook the country to its foundation. Isioma Daniel’s article, “The World at Their Feet” published in ThisDay newspaper on Saturday, 16th November, 2002, drew the ire of Muslims across the length and breadth of Nigeria.

Violent demonstrations broke out in 2005 when the Danish newspaper Jyllands-Posten’s published a cartoon in which Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) was depicted as a terrorist wearing a bomb-laden turban. In January 2015, Charlie Ebdo, the French satirical magazine used cartoons that were considered provocative by Muslims. Blood flowed on the streets of Paris.

We condemn violence and all acts of terrorism. But we do not share the opinion that freedom of expression can go to any length. Even Pope Francis has warned people not to insult the faith of others. He said, “It is normal. You cannot provoke. You cannot insult the faiths of others. You cannot make fun of the faiths of others. Freedom of speech and expression are fundamental human rights. However, there should be a limit to offending and ridiculing the faiths and beliefs of others.”

But has this advice been taken seriously? Nigerian Artistes have consistently proved that they are most willing to ignore the Pope’s advice. They provoke Muslims at the slightest opportunity. They have this habit of giving Muslim names to characters who play devilish, immoral and lowly roles in their films, e.g. Sikiratu Sindodo, Jelili Oniso, Basira Baseje, Osanle Modinat, Aminatu Pa-pa-pa are a few examples. Of recent, Muniru and Ambali play despicable roles of idiocy.

The idea behind this is to make Muslims feel ashamed of the ordinary Muslim name. It is inhuman, despicable and bully-motivated. MURIC will defend the Muslim name with every legitimate tool at its disposal.

There is no gainsaying the fact that a culture of impunity pervades the arts in Nigeria. The National Film And Video Censors Board (NFVCB), a regulatory agency set up by Act No. 85 of 1993 to regulate films and the video industry has a case to answer. ‘Shaku Shaku’ video was shot and released under its watch. What is its alucutus. What will it say if Muslims elect to go violent over this primitive, irresponsible and reckless production? What will it say if hundreds of lives and properties worth billions of dollars are lost in the ensuing violence due to its negligence?

As we round up, MURIC warns Nigerian artists to stop giving Muslim names to devilish and lowly characters. We appeal to Muslims all over the country to simmer down. Let us adopt a civilized approach to ‘Shaku Shaku’ and teach agents provocateur some lessons in respect for human feelings. Instead of going violent, Nigerian Muslims should take those behind the ‘Shaku Shaku’ video to court in order to serve as a deterrent to others.

We therefore give notice of impending legal action against the artist behind the ‘Shaku Shaku’ video unless the latter is withdrawn and an apology is widely published within seven days.

Rigging No Longer Possible In Nigeria – INEC Officia
User Avatar Forum: Politics

Rigging during elections by any political party or staff of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is no longer possible in Nigeria, a top official of the electoral umpire said this yesterday.

He also chided those purportedly saying the independence of INEC had been usurped by the presidency, saying the argument could not stand because the electoral empire had in the last three years organized dozens of off- season elections with the opposition parties especially the PDP winning many of them.

The source who dismissed the outcry by the opposition over alleged plans by the ruling APC to rig the 2019 elections in collaboration with INEC said communication technology had given the electorate the power to choose their leaders without undue interference.

He also confirmed that the card reader which ensured credible elections since 2015 would be deployed to the nearly 30,000 polling units across the country in forthcoming elections; a development he said would shield the process from manipulation.

The official also said there was no plan to create additional polling units ahead of 2019 despite the fact that many communities and settlements had outgrown the current number of polling units in the country.

“No polling units will be created before the 2019 elections. If you create polling units, you have to populate them, then it will create confusion and you will have to replace the voters.

“What the commission has resolved to do is to decongest the existing polling units by creating voting points within the same location where voters exceed 500 in a particular point.

“Under the leadership of Prof. Attahiru Jega, the commission conducted an audit of all polling units. Before then, some polling units were located in shrines and different places. But with the audit, we now have 119,973 polling units across the country and there are no more obscure polling units,” the official said.

The official added that this was the time for politicians and political parties to put their acts together; join hands with election officials and improve on the already improved credibility of INEC as shining example in Africa.

We Spent N2.75tn On Power, Roads In Two Years – FG
User Avatar Forum: Politics

Quote:president Muhammadu Buhari said on Monday that his administration had spent $9bn (N2.745tn at the official exchange rate of N305 to $1) on power, roads and railways in the country in the last two years.

The President said this was part of the ongoing plans to diversify the economy through the development of tourism, agriculture and solid minerals, noting that the Federal Government was investing heavily in infrastructure.

Buhari made these remarks at the 61st meeting of the United Nations World Tourism Organisation and Commission for Africa in Abuja.

The President stated that as part of his administration’s social investment programmes, the government was giving N5,000 monthly to some 297,973 poor homes in the country.

The theme of the weeklong conference, which was attended by delegates from over 53 countries, was, ‘Tourism Statistics – A Catalyst for Development’.

The President, in his speech read by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha, said Nigeria expected to benefit from tourism through increase in foreign exchange earnings, revenue generation, employment creation and cultural integration.

Buhari stated, “We are making steady efforts to diversify the economy through agriculture, solid minerals development and tourism. We are also investing heavily in infrastructure to promote tourism. This administration has injected about $9bn to strengthen its investment in power, roads and railway in the past two years.

“The government is also investing in the social investment programme to promote human capital development, which has benefitted over nine million people. These programmes include our home-grown school feeding programme that is providing one meal a day to 7.4 million pupils in 22 states of the federation.”

He added, “There is also the Conditional Cash Transfer under which some 297,973 poor homes are receiving N5,000 monthly. The government is also providing public safety and security to all Nigerians, investors and tourists. Government is also investing a lot of resources in building the inventory of equipment and capacity of security agencies to keep the country safe.

“Nigeria is a country with a population of over 180 million people and over 250 ethnic groups, each with a unique story, and these stories are finding expression in our movies, music and many other creative ideas. The importance of tourism and its potential to national economies cannot be overemphasised.”

The President called on tourists and investors to consider Nigeria as their second home, noting that the Federal Government was willing to offer several waivers, including minimum tariff on imported tourism equipment, amusement park equipment and materials for hotel construction, and work permit for foreign workers with specialised skills within the industry.

The Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, said the meeting would provide an opportunity to establish “stronger linkages and functional collaboration among member-states in order to realise the potential with which the continent is endowed.”

“We have also dusted up and updated the Nigeria Tourism Development Master Plan, which is currently being implemented. This document aims at achieving, among others, the restructuring of the existing tourism development institutions for them to effectively deliver the benefits of tourism,” the minister noted.

Saraki Repeated Atiku’s Mistake, Regrets Not Impeaching Buhari – Reno Omokri

Quote:Former aide to ex-president Goodluck Jonathan, Reno Omokri has claimed that Senate President, Bukola Saraki has repeated the mistake Atiku Abubakar made in 2003, by not using the power he had in his hands.

In a series of tweets on Monday, Omokri alleged that Saraki stopped the Senate from impeaching Buhari and must be regretting it now.

“The allegations against @bukolasaraki shows the serial dishonesty and lack of integrity displayed by the Buhari administration. It has gotten so bad that if Lai Mohammed or @GarShehu tell you good morning, you are advised to check your watch to ensure that it is indeed morning!

“@bukolasaraki made the mistake HE Atiku made in 2003. When you have power in your hand, use it, because if it leaves your hand and goes back to your enemy’s hand, your enemy will use it against you. Saraki stopped the @NGRSenate from impeaching Buhari. How he must regret it now!” he wrote.

The Nigeria Police seems to have soft-pedaled on its alleged onslaught against Saraki, over its ongoing probe into the Offa Bank robbery in Kwara.

The Police had on Sunday asked Saraki to turn himself in for questioning over the incident.

But on Monday, DAILY POST was
informed that Saraki has been asked to state his position in writing .

APC: Shittu And Al-Hassan Locked Out Of Inauguration

Factional chairmen storm national secretariat

Quote:Romanus Ugwu, Abuja

The national secretariat of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abuja, was literally turned into a battleground, yesterday, when state officers, who emerged from parallel congresses conducted recently, jostled for recognition during the ceremony to inaugurate state chairmen.

As early as 10.00am, security operatives, strategically positioned at the main entrance gate and the gate leading into the building, had their hands full as they tried to curtail surging party members and their teeming supporters.

The situation was rowdy, almost all through the event, as factional chairmen and their supporters battled endlessly to enter the main hall.

In the rowdiness, two ministers were denied entry into the hall.

Despite efforts of the security details attached to the Ministers of Communication, Adebayo Shittu and that of Women Affairs, Senator Jummai Aisha Al-Hassan, gaining entrance into the hall was like the proverbial camel passing through the eye of the needle.

The situation degenerated into a shouting match amid threats by supporters of the factions denied entry, which resulted in security operatives releasing canisters of teargas to disperse protesters. It wasn’t pleasant watching the two ministers struggle to enter the hall with their orderlies.

For Communications minister, the factional chairman was not only denied entry but the party national leadership opted to give passage to the faction loyal to Oyo State Governor, Senator Abiola Ajumobi.

Defending the decision to deny the two ministers entry, a secretariat staff said they were not officially invited for the event and that they only came to ensure that their factional chairman were among those inaugurated.

On being denied entry to the event, senator AlHassan, also called Mama Taraba said she was not disappointed with the decision of the National Working Committee (NWC) to restrict entry into the hall to only state chairmen.

“I was not disappointed at all that I was denied entry into the hall because I was made to understand that the NWC restricted entry into the hall to only the chairmen; for security reasons. As a politician, I was not surprised with what happened,” she said.

However, normalcy was restored shortly after the inauguration when factional chairmen from some states, who could not access the venue, stormed out and, in the process, heaped all manner of abuse on the national leadership.

Although the supporters loyal to the Communications minister had threatened fire and brimstone, including tearing the certificate of the sworn-in chairman, they, however, chickened out after the minister angrily stormed out of the secretariat.

Outstanding among the victors were the Imo State delegation whose happiness knew no bounds following the swearing in of Hilary Eke, as the authentic chairman.

Eke was re-elected. He belongs to the Imo Stakeholders unit of the party in the state.
Speaking during the inauguration, National Chairman, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, charged the state party chairmen to return the party to its lost glory by announcing to Nigerians the successes of the current APC-led federal government.

“You have the onerous task maturing APC. You have to work hard to return the party to its lost glory. Also, make sure you work hard for the re-election of our president. We are aware of conflicts, disaffections and bad blood in the party. Put all these aside and work for the victory of our party in the 2019 general election.

“Go and tell the people of the great achievements recorded by the APC Government. Your government is on the right course. A firm foundation has been laid for the development of Nigeria. In spite of lean resources, the APC has achieved much more in three years. Get acquainted with the achievements put together in a document which I will make available to you. Tell Nigerians the achievements of your government.

“In infrastructure, a lot of roads have been constructed, agriculture; much rice is being produced, transport, rail is there and power, we now have 7,000 megawatts.

“There is serious need for quick reconciliation especially in Rivers, Taraba, Oyo, Delta, Lagos and others. Let the chairmen here wait and should not inaugurate their executives like the others until the issues with the congresses in such states are resolved.

“I am going to set up a committee headed by the deputy National Chairman (North) to study the situations in such states for possible actions. There will be concessions and harmonizations after the exercise within this week,” said Oyegun.

"Lai Mohammed's Big Lie Busted" - By Reno Omokri

World Tourism Organisation Meeting and Bukola Saraki: How The Buhari Administration Continues to Lose Credibility Daily

My attention has been drawn to comments made by Lai Mohammed, Buhari’s fallacious minister of information, who said Abuja was not safe enough to host foreign ministers four years ago during the Presidency of Dr. Goodluck Jonathan.

Speaking at a press briefing to welcome participants to the the 61st meeting of the UN World Tourism Organisation, UNWTO-CAF, holding in Abuja, Mr. Mohammed said:

“Four years ago, hosting this event in Abuja would have been a pipe dream, considering the level of insecurity. Remember that Boko Haram carried out many deadly attacks in this capital city. That is now history.”

Lai Mohammed, being the notorious liar that he is, has forgotten that exactly four years ago, world leaders gathered in Abuja for the World Economic Forum from May 7 to May 10, 2014.

Between a ministerial meeting of the UN World Tourism Organization, UNWTO, and a meeting of world leaders at the World Economic Forum, which is more prestigious and which requires more security?

Not only did Abuja play host to the World Economic Forum, Nigeria under Jonathan, also hosted major world leaders in Abuja, including German Chancellor, Angela Merkel, who visited Abuja between July 14-15, 2011, then French President, Francois Hollande, who visited between February 27-28, 2014 and then Lebanese President, Michel Suleiman, who visited between March 18-19, 2013, amongst many others.

From the above and numerous other instances, it has been established beyond all reasonable doubt that we are dealing with a dishonest administration that will say or do anything to remain relevant.

In a related development that showcases their fallacious tendencies, they now want us to believe that the Senate President, Distinguished Senator Bukola Saraki, is the mastermind of the deadly Offa Bank robbery.

The allegation against Mr. Saraki begs the question, does the Buhari government even reason? The amount of money stolen during the Offa Bank Robbery is not up to the sum of monies that Bukola Saraki gives out in charity to the masses during Sallah and other Islamic festive occasions. The Senate President also sits atop a ₦100 billion annual budget. Why would he sponsor a bank robbery?

These and other unintelligent lies are just recent instances of the serial dishonesty and lack of integrity displayed by the Buhari administration. It has gotten so bad that if Lai Mohammed or Garba Shehu tell you good morning, you had better check your watch to ensure that it is indeed morning.

These constant barrage of lies by the Buhari administration has made Nigeria a butt of international jokes and led to a situation where we have lost our pride of place as the Giant of Africa.

Nigerians may recall that on April 27, Garba Shehu, spokesman to President Buhari, lied that President Buhari was the first African President to be received by US President, Donald Trump, at the White House.

I had the singular honour of exposing the Presidency’s lie through a video I released of Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi being received by President Trump at the White House on April 3, 2017, more than a year before Mr. Trump met Mr. Buhari.

The question Nigerians should ask the Buhari government is this:

If former President Jonathan is the failure they claim he is, then why are they always keen to compare themselves with him? It is human nature to compare oneself with the best. They always compare themselves with Jonathan a man who they claim is a failure. Do they have an inferiority complex?

Morning Devotional For Tuesday 5th June

RHAPSODY OF REALITIES

TUESDAY, 5TH JUNE.

WALKING IN HUMILITY: A GREAT BLESSING.

Likewise, ye younger, submit yourselves unto the elder. Yea, all of you be subject one to another, and be clothed with humility: for God resisteth the proud, and giveth grace to the humble (1 Peter 5:5).

Until and unless you’re submissive to the Lord and His Word, you really can’t walk with the Spirit of God. True humility is yielding to the will of the Father; acting on the Word, regardless and independent of circumstances. It’s about honouring, regarding, and giving preference to others, because the Word says so.

In Philippians 2:3 (AMPC), the Spirit adjures, “Do nothing from factional motives [through contentiousness, strife, selfishness, or for unworthy ends] or prompted by conceit and empty arrogance. Instead, in the true spirit of humility (lowliness of mind) let each regard the others as better than and superior to himself [thinking more highly of one another than you do of yourselves].” Don’t carry your shoulders so high against your brothers and sisters in Christ, especially your leaders in the Lord; be humble. Be submissive.

Pride and unsubmissiveness are signs of demonic presence. Satan wasn’t submissive to God; he was a proud figure, and for his haughtiness, God kicked him out of his place of honour. You must make up your mind to walk in humility. It’s part of the manifestation of the life of Christ in you.

Hebrews 13:17 says, “Obey them that have the rule over you, and submit yourselves: for they watch for your souls, as they that must give account, that they may do it with joy, and not with grief: for that is unprofitable for you.” You can talk in tongues; you can prophesy; but if you’re not submissive and humble, it’s all in vain.

Walking in humility is a great blessing. Use it for your life, to guide yourself, and you’ll be amazed at the blessings that would result. Humility brings promotion. The Bible says God resists the proud and gives more grace to the humble; resulting in honour, increase, enlargement, and progress.

PRAYER

Blessed Father, you’re so gracious and kind. I receive your Word today into my spirit, and relate with everyone in meekness and humility of heart, expressing the love of Christ, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.

FURTHER STUDY:

Romans 12:3 For I say, through the grace given unto me, to every man that is among you, not to think [of himself] more highly than he ought to think; but to think soberly, according as God hath dealt to every man the measure of faith.

1 Corinthians 13:4-7 AMPC Love endures long and is patient and kind; love never is envious nor boils over with jealousy, is not boastful or vainglorious, does not display itself haughtily. 5 It is not conceited (arrogant and inflated with pride); it is not rude (unmannerly) and does not act unbecomingly. Love (God’s love in us) does not insist on its own rights or its own way, for it is not self-seeking; it is not touchy or fretful or resentful; it takes no account of the evil done to it [it pays no attention to a suffered wrong]. 6 It does not rejoice at injustice and unrighteousness, but rejoices when right and truth prevail. 7 Love bears up under anything and everything that comes, is ever ready to believe the best of every person, its hopes are fadeless under all circumstances, and it endures everything [without weakening].

#AFFIRMATIONTRAIN

5TH JUNE.

I affirm that I am sent by the Lord! I am a custodian of divine truth, and I have received the Spirit without measure. I have all it takes to fulfill my assignment here on earth. Fear has no place in me, for the Father have not given unto me the spirit of fear but of love, power and of a sound mind.

My mind is sound, and I am bold to act my faith. I function with the ability of the Spirit today for the Spirit of God is working in me and causing me to have divine courage and confidence. I am king and a priest; I am anointed by the Spirit of God to carry out my assignment with great joy. Hallelujah! My words are not ordinary; they are spirit and they are life. I am fully aware that the quality of life that I live is based on the faith-filled words that I utter.
Therefore, I hold fast to the profession of faith without wavering, and I affirm today that my life, health, family, and finances are consistent with God’s Word for my life. Hallelujah. I am favored everywhere I go because the favour of the Lord surrounds me like a shield. It opens doors for me, bringing me into my place of greatness. God’s favour has placed me in a position of advantage, and nothing is too good for me! Glory to God. Hallelujah!

"There Is A United Voice Against Okorocha" – Oyegun
User Avatar Forum: Politics
Posted by: Edoman - 06-04-2018, 10:55 AM - No Replies

The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, has said there is a united voice against Gov. Rochas Okorocha of Imo State.

Chief Odigie-Oyegun spoke tacitly at the weekend in Abuja on the protracted crisis in Imo APC while reacting to an allegation from Gov. Okorocha that he was facing a witch-hunt from the party leadership for opposing the tenure elongation move for the outgoing National Working Committee (NWC) members.

Okorocha had been having a running battle with the Odigie-Oyegun-led NWC after losing the control of the party’s structure in the state to his political rivals in the just concluded ward, local government and state congresses.

The APC national chairman wondered why Okorocha would be targeted when he was the only person that opposed the move.

While responding to the allegation, Odigie-Oyegun said Okorocha “wasn’t the strongest force behind the objection to tenure elongation. So why is his case different? I don’t think it is necessary to go into the details.

“Well, the processes are still on and it is not good to answer you in detail. But the answer lies in one fact that he is not the only one who opposed the so-called tenure elongation, how come he is the only one being witch-hunted?

“When you look at the totality of the events in that state, I think you can get a clearer picture of what is going on there. There is a united voice calling for a different way of doing things so to speak,” Oyegun said.

Reno Omokri: "Saraki Betrayed Jonathan… He Is Reaping What He Sowed"
User Avatar Forum: Politics
Posted by: Edoman - 06-04-2018, 10:42 AM - No Replies

Reno Omokri, media aide to Ex-President Goodluck Jonathan, says the latest travails of Senate President Bukolare Saraki are proof that men reap only what they sow.
.

On Sunday, the Police said five Offa bank robbers had
named Saraki and Ahmed Abdulfatah , Governor of Kwara State, as their sponsors.
.

Same Sunday, it was revealed that the Department of State Services (DSS) had withdrawn half of its operatives from Saraki, as well as Yakubu Dogara, Speaker of the House of Representatives.
.

Analysing Saraki’s predicament, Omokri lamented that the Senate President, having helped Buhari to power by betraying Jonathan, would now be dealt with by a man he nominated to work for Buhari.
.

“When the rapper Falz sang ‘#ThisisNigeria, Everybody be criminal’, many in society were outraged,” Omokri said.
.

“But what is happening today? The Buhari government, which gave security protection to pension thief Maina, has withdrawn security protection from Bukola Saraki and Yakubu Dogara while linking Saraki with ARMED ROBBERY! But is it not funny that the police who could not prosecute those who stole Senate’s mace has been able to find a link between Senate President Bukola Saraki and the #OffaBankRobbery. In Kaduna, El-Rufai demolishes his critics houses. In Abuja, they link you to armed robbery! APC, I hail!
.

“Do these people even think? The amount of money stolen during the #OffaBankRobbery is not even up to the cash that Bukola Saraki gives out to the masses during Sallah. The Senate President sits atop a ₦100 billion annual budget. Why would he sponsor a bank robbery? Why waste your money on Cable TV to watch #GameofThrones, when the game playing out in Nigeria is more dramatic than anything GoT can conjure? An ex-Governor who is the current Senate President being linked to armed robbery because of his opposition to a sitting President who also withdrew his security! You can’t make this up!
.

“The sad thing is that if Bukola Saraki had not betrayed Jonathan, Buhari would not now have the power he is using to victimise Saraki. There is no spoon long enough to eat with the devil. When you bring a leopard to kill your enemy, yes, the leopard will kill them. Then it will turn on you when it gets hungry! What Saraki and the nPDP thought was weakness on the part of Jonathan was maturity and the fear of God. Ironically, Bolaji Abdullahi, the APC National Publicity Secretary, that is now going to be used to fight Saraki is a man he (Saraki) nominated to that post. Indeed, you reap what you sow.”

Former Special Assistant to President Jonathan on New Media, Reno Omokri has described Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity to President Buhari, Mallam Garba Shehu as a “liar”.
Omokri made this assertion in reaction to a claim by Shehu that the President Muhammadu Buhari administration had created 6 million jobs since inception.
Shehu made the claim on a Channels Television programme, Sunday Politics.
He added, “Under the Buhari administration, several companies have been created and several job opportunities have been created for our youths.”
But reacting via his verified Twitter handle, the US-based pastor wondered where Shehu got his facts from when the National Bureau of Statistics said 10 million jobs were lost under the Buhari administration.
Omokri said, “When I say @Garshehu is a liar, some people doubted me. Now look at him saying Buhari has created over 6 million jobs. The liar has forgotten that the government owned Nigerian Bureau of Statistics said 10 million Nigerians lost their jobs under Buhari!”

NNPC: No Plan to Pay N36bn Compensation to Port Harcourt Refinery Host Community

[Image: Petrol-hawkers-looking-for-buyers-around...C464&ssl=1]

Report: Oil thieves forced 150,000bpd Nembe creek trunk line to shut down for 122 days in two years
By Ejiofor Alike  in Lagos  and Chineme Okafor in Abuja
The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) yesterday dismissed insinuation that it planned to pay N36 billion compensation allegedly due to Alesa-Eleme community in Rivers State as royalty for playing host to its Port Harcourt Refining Company.

NNPC said in a statement by its Group General Manager, Group Public Affairs Division, Mr. Ndu Ughamadu, in Abuja that such report was a hoax which originated from a traditional ruler regarded as a claimant to the Alesa-Eleme traditional stool.
It alleged that the said traditional ruler went to town with the fake story after a purported meeting with the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Dr. Ibe Kachikwu, adding that it had checked with Kachikwu to confirm that there was no such meeting at which he made the promise of a compensation payment to the community.
NNPC explained the story was fabricated to cause disharmony between it and Alesa-Eleme community which it said has being a good host to it.
The corporation said through the years, the refinery had enjoyed cordial relations with all the 10 communities in Eleme where it is located, including Alesa Eleme and Alade Eleme, through an existing Joint Community Relations committee (JCRC).
NNPC said the JCRC, comprising representatives from the various interest groups of the community, had been relating with the management of the refinery on a sustained basis for creation and execution of development projects and needs of the communities.
It asked the community members to discountenance the reported plan to pay out N36 billion compensation as there was no such approval or payment to any entity.
Meanwhile, a status report on the operation of the Nembe Creek Trunk Line (NCTL) has indicated that the 150,000 barrels per day capacity pipeline was closed down for 122 days between January 2016 and May 2018, THISDAY has learnt.
The NCTL and the Trans Niger Pipeline (TNP) are the two major pipelines used by oil companies operating in the eastern Niger Delta to evacuate crude oil to the Shell-operated Bonny Export Terminal.
THISDAY gathered that the NCTL is a major crude oil transportation channel that conveys crude oil injected from  Oil Mining Leases (OMLs) 29, 18, 24, 25, 23 and 55; running from Nembe Creek in Bayelsa State through Cawthorne Channel Field on OML 18 to the Bonny Oil Terminal for export.
The pipeline has a capacity of 150,000 barrels per day at Nembe Creek, but can evacuate 600,000 barrels of liquids from the  Cawthorne Channel end.
The 115 kilometre-capacity line was built by Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC) between 2006 and 2010 at a cost of about $1.1 billion but is currently being operated by Aiteo Group since 2015 when Shell completed the assignment of its interest in OML 29 and the NCTL to Aiteo Eastern E&P Co. Ltd.
The status report on the operations of the pipeline, which was obtained by THISDAY from one of the oil producing companies that evacuate crude oil  through the facility, showed that due to recurrent thefts on the pipeline route, which are evidenced by significant pressure reductions on the trunk line, theft points identification as well as illegal refineries, Nigeria has experienced loss of production and huge revenue.
The report showed that between January 14, 2016 and May 23, 2018, the NCTL was out of operation for 122 days as a result of the activities of oil thieves that created several illegal bunkering points on the pipeline.
According to the report, in December 2016 alone, 45.46 per cent of the total net crude oil  injected into the NCTL was lost.
A breakdown of the operation of the pipeline showed that it was shut down for 53 days in 2016; 62 days in 2017 and seven days in 2018.
“Third party interference with the, line has oftentimes resulted in oil leaks, which ultimately culminate in shutting down the NCTL to undertake emergency repairs. This in itself has resulted in the NCTL being shut down for about 122 days and an approximate deferment of 50.386 million barrels of crude oil (net) for the six injectors into the NCTL since Aiteo took over the operatorship of the Trunk line. As at May 1, 2018, there were a total of 24 illegal bunkering points identified along the NCTL. Aiteo Eastern E&P successfully repaired nine of these illegal bunkering points,” the report said.
The report added that these illegal bunkering points also contribute to the huge losses on the volumes injected across the NCTL by the six oil mining leases and the volumes actually received at Bonny Terminal.
THISDAY had reported that Aiteo paid the Joint Task Force in the Niger Delta a total of N1.192 billion for the protection of the pipeline over a period of three years.
A breakdown of the payment schedule showed that for 2015 alone, the company paid a total of N19.696 million to the JTF; N462.033 million in 2016; N449.419 million in 2017 and N260.663 million in 2018.

External reserves fall by $177m in 2 weeks

Naira appreciation may persist CBN spends N1.5 trillion to mop up excess liquidity By Babajide Komolafe

THE appreciation recorded by the naira in the various segments of the foreign exchange market last week is expected to persist this week, even as the external reserves continued on a downward trend, falling by $177 million in two weeks, due to increased dollar sales by the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, in its effort to stem the depreciation of the naira. Last week, the naira reversed the sharp depreciation suffered the previous week, as it appreciated in the parallel market and in the Investors and Exporters, I&E, courtesy of measures introduced by the apex bank to boost dollar supply. Among other things the CBN increased dollar sales to each bureaux de change, BDCs, to $60,000 per week from $40,000, while it directed banks to sell dollars to all travellers with valid documents, customers and non-customers. In addition the CBN intervened in the I&E window to boost supply in the window, while it sustained its weekly $210 million intervention in the interbank foreign exchange market. Consequently, the naira appreciated by 72 kobo in the I&E window, as the indicative exchange rate dropped to N360.85 per dollar on Friday from N361.57 per dollar the previous week.

The Central Bank of Nigeria head office in Abuja. Financial Vanguard analysis of transactions in the I&E showed that volume of dollars traded (turnover) shot up by 125 percent to $1.77 billion last week from $786 million the previous week, courtesy of CBN intervention. In the parallel market, the naira appreciated by N3 as the parallel market exchange rate fell to N363 per dollar on Friday from N366 per dollar the previous week. According to Aminu Gwadabe, President, Association of Bureaux De Change Operators of Nigeria, ABCON, the appreciation was due to fall in demand for dollars following the 50 percent increase in dollar sales to BDCs by the apex bank.

External fall by $177m However, the external reserves declined for the second consecutive week reflecting the impact of increased dollar supply by the CBN. Data on the CBN website showed that the reserves had declined by $177 million between May 18 when it peaked at $47.799 billion and Wednesday May 30 when it fell to $47.622 billion. Analysts at Lagos based Cowry Asset Management Limited projected that the decline in external reserves will persist for a while due to increased dollar demand and CBN’s continued intervention to forestall depreciation of the naira.

“We expect the decline in the external reserves to persist in the short term as demand for the green back grows amid the continued intervention of CBN in order to curtail the pressure on the naira at both the I&E and BDC segments as well as the expected increased demand by pilgrims and other holiday travellers,” they said. Excess liquidity: CBN spends N1.5trn Meanwhile the CBN on Friday disclosed that it spent N1.5 trillion to mop up N12.3 trillion excess liquidity, through issuance of Open Market Operation, OMO, treasury bills in the interbank money market in 2017. This disclosure was contained in the apex bank’s financial market department annual activity report for 2017.

The report also revealed that the value of transactions in the interbank money market rose by 500 percent to N32.9 trillion in 2017 from N5.3 trillion in 2016, due to scarcity of funds occasioned by increased liquidity mop up through OMO bills. The report stated: “The liquidity levels in the banking system were influenced by periodic fiscal injections (comprising Statutory Revenue Allocation, SRA; Value Added Tax, VAT; non-oil revenue and the refund of the Paris Club deductions, amongst others).
Maturing CBN Bills and the redemption of FGN Bonds and Nigerian Treasury Bills, NTBs, complemented these fiscal injections. “In order to mop up the excess liquidity, OMO auctions were conducted frequently. However, the frequency of auctions abated in November and December in response to various developments in the financial markets. In line with the contractionary monetary policy stance, CBN Bills were used as the major instrument for the conduct of OMO to manage the liquidity levels in the banking system. “Total CBN Bills offered at the OMO was N13.762 trillion, while public subscription and sale amounted to N12.3 trillion and N11.3 trillion, respectively, compared with N6.7 trillion, N10.3 trillion and N7.9 trillion offered, subscribed and sold, respectively, in 2016.

The high level of activity during the review period was attributable to the increased number of auctions to moderate the excess banking system liquidity, occasioned by the payments of statutory revenue to the three tiers of government, other fiscal disbursements and maturing CBN Bills, amongst others. Consequently, the cost of liquidity management in 2017 increased to N1.5 trillion, from N922.31 billion in 2016. “At the inter-bank funds market, the value of transactions increased significantly by over five-fold to N32.9 trillion in 2017, from N5.3 trillion in 2016. OBB transactions accounted for 94.83 per cent of the total value of inter-bank deals, while transactions at the unsecured inter-bank segment accounted for the balance of 5.17 per cent, compared with 80.62 and 19.38 per cent, respectively in 2016. A breakdown of the transactions at the inter-bank market showed an increase in call placements by 76.87 per cent to N1.6 trillion, from N906.84 billion in 2016. At the OBB segment, transactions increased significantly by over six-fold to N31.2 trillion, from N4.3 trillion in 2016. “The sharp increase in the volume of transactions in 2017 was attributable largely to the liquidity squeeze in the banking system occasioned by the frequent OMO auctions and the sale of foreign exchange.”

CBN offers $541m in three days, reserves steady at $47b
Transactions at the nation’s autonomous foreign exchange market- the Investors and Exporters (I&E) Window, hit a record $1.7 billion in one week, despite relative losses by the local unit across segments.
The huge transactions, which also indicated a resurging confidence in the forex market, came amid the take off of the three-time weekly auctions for the Bureau De Change (BDC) operators, mandated by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).Already, CBN’s data on Purchasing Managers’ Index (PMI) for May 2018, showed sustained expansion in both the manufacturing and non-manufacturing sectors for the 14th and 13th consecutive months respectively, riding on increasing forex.
This persistent improvement was attributed largely to the positives that have translated into improved access to forex by businesses, particularly since the launch of Investors’ and Exporters (I&E) FX window in April 2017.The manufacturing PMI expanded to 56.5 points, growing at a slower pace compared to 56.9 points recorded in April 2018, due to a slower increase in two components of the index – Inventories (58.7 points) and new orders (54.9 points).

Similarly, the non-manufacturing PMI, expanded to 57.3 points, 0.2 points lower than 57.5 points recorded in April 2018, with a slower growth rate in three components of the index – Business activity (58.7 points), New orders (55.9 points) and Inventories (59.2 points). The I&E Window had opened the week’s trading with the naira flat at N361.57/$ and by midweek, it depreciated by 45 kobo to N362.02/$, but reversed the losses with N1.05 and 12 kobo gians on Thursday and Friday respectively, to close the week at N360.85/$.
Subsequently, activity level in the I & E window strengthened as total turnover on Thursday rose by 92.8% to $1.7 billion against $883.9 million recorded the previous week. Also, the CBN spot rate weakened at the start of the week, depreciating five kobo to N305.95/$ against N305.90/$ recorded in the previous week and remained unchanged till Thursday.
At the close of transactions on Friday, the CBN spot rate further declined by five kobo to N306/$, while the parallel market, which opened the week at N364/$, depreciating by N1 against the previous week’s record, regained the loss as it ended the week at N363/$.
Meanwhile, the nation’s stock of external reserves remained at $47.6 billion, despite sustained interventions, which volume notched up with the new mandate to BDCs to increase the purchase of foreign exchange thrice a week. The apex bank, last week, auctioned a total of $541.41 million to the forex market in two interventions that helped the local unit to regain lost weight against other major currencies.
But in preparation for the resumption of trading activities this week, CBN ended the week with the second intervention worth $331.41 million to players in different sectors of the forex market.CBN’s Bank’s Acting Director, Corporate Communications Department, Isaac Okorafor, said companies in the agricultural, airlines, petroleum products and raw materials and machinery sectors were the beneficiaries of the intervention. He explained that the continued interventions in the forex market was to guard against illiquidity and checkmate actions of speculators that could mount pressure on the country’s reserves.

Banks’ daily CBN loans hit N216b

Banks’ daily CBN loans hit N216b

[/url]
Banks’ average daily loan requests from the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) stands at N216.34 billion due to the apex banks’s tough monetary policy, according to a CBN’s Financial Market Department Annual Activity Report.
The Monetary Policy Rate (MPR) – benchmark interest — has remained at 14 per cent since July 2016 despite rising calls from economic experts for a lower interest rate. This has raised banks’ demand for CBN’s loans to boost their liquidity.
The loans, which came as Standing Lending Facility (SLF), were for each of the 246 days captured in 2017, out of which Intra-day Liquidity Facility (ILF) conversion was N130.63 billion, representing 60.38 per cent of the total request.
The report released at the weekend, showed the average daily interest charged was N159.96 million.

The SLF and SDF were available for market participants to square up their positions or invest excess funds at the close of business. Similarly, Intra-day Liquidity Facility (ILF) was accessible as temporary credit to the banks to meet their funding needs within the operating hours of the CBN Inter-bank Funds Transfer System (CIFTS).
The report signed by CBN Director, Financial Markets Department, ALvan Ikoku, attributed the bank’s rising borrowing from the CBN to tough monetary policy measures, which kept the Monetary Policy Rate (MPR)-benchmark interest rate at 14 per cent throughout the year.
“In 2016, the average daily request for SLF was N130.47 billion in 207 days, out of which ILF conversion was N84.62 billion, while average daily interest income was N94.76 million. The higher patronage at the window in 2017 reflected the effect of the tight monetary policy stance,” it said.
Ikoku said banks requested the standing facilities to square-up their positions by borrowing from the CBN (SLF) or depositing excess funds (SDF) at the end of each business day. “The trend at the window showed more frequent recourse to the SLF, than in 2016 due to the tight monetary policy stance. The threshold for daily deposits per institution at the SDF remained N7.5 billion in the CBN thrust to curtail unbridled requests by market participants and encourage lending to the economy. Applicable rates for the SLF and SDF also remained 16 and nine per cent. The rates were anchored to the MPR,” it added.
According to the report, patronage    at    the    SDF    window declined to an average daily amount of N41.90 billion for  the  230  days in 2017, from N76.11 billion for the 246 days in  2016.
It said the average daily interest    payments    on the deposits decreased to N14.86 million in the review period,  from  N20.01 million  in  2016. The reduced volume of transactions in the year  was  due to tight monetary operations and the sale of foreign exchange to authorized dealers.

“Liquidity management was conducted through the use of Open Market Operation (OMO) as the main instrument of monetary policy, complemented by discount window activities, CRR and interventions in the foreign exchange market,” it added.
The financial market report said the challenge of curtailing inflation, promoting increased capital inflows and restoring the economy to the path of growth was paramount in the bank’s policy mix.
“In continuation of the contractionary monetary policy stance, the thresholds of the monetary policy instruments showed that MPR was retained at 14 per cent, with an asymmetric corridor of+200/-500 basis points for the Standing Lending Facility (SLF) and Standing Deposit Facility (SDF), respectively.
In addition, the CRR and Liquidity ratios remained 22.50 and 30.00 per cent, respectively,” it added.
It said the liquidity levels in the banking system were influenced by periodic fiscal injections (comprising Statutory Revenue Allocation (SRA), Value Added Tax (VAT), non-oil revenue and the refund of the Paris Club deductions, amongst others).
The report said withdrawal of naira by the CBN through the sale of foreign exchange drained liquidity further and pushed market rates upwards

Airports concession: Int’l airlines to raise fares

[Image: An-aircraft-in-flight-Aviation-airport-p...craft-.png]

  • IATA: Charges are higher for privatised airports
There are indications that inbound and outbound passengers may pay more for air travel as charges and taxes are expected to be raised astronomically should the Federal Government go ahead with its planned privatisation of its major airports.
The International Air Transport Association (IATA) has urged govern ments, including Nigeria, not to consider aerodromes for privatisation and concession simply as means to raise cash for governments. It stressed that the decision to privatise or not privatise should always focus on consumer benefits and the wider economy.
The clearing house for noted that there is higher risk of abuse of market power from privatised operators in the monopoly airport sector as their action will be focused on shareholders’ benefits as opposed to consumer and wider economic benefits.

Equally worrisome is allegation that governments have not developed a robust business case which has also led to lack of transparency in the transaction process and often the process is driven by unsolicited proposals, interested private parties or financiers.
IATA Senior Vice President (Airport, Passenger, Cargo and Security), Nick Careen, spoke yesterday on failure of airport privatisation across the globe at the 74th IATA Annual General Meeting in Sydney, Australia.
The IATA chief stated that airports are a critical part of national infrastructure, just as he tasked governments to maintain an ownership interest. “No one size fits all solution to airport ownership, but corporatisation where the government maintains its skin in the game-generally provides better outcomes for consumers and the wider economy,” Careen said. Buttressing his claim, he stated that five out of the best six airports in the world in the Skytrax ranking are public.
He listed the airports as Singapore Changi Airport, Incheon International Airport, Hong Kong International Airport, Hamad International Airport and Munich Airport. He noted that governments’ focus to generate revenue through airports concessions and privatisation may backfire on economic growth through tourism as many people may shun visits to the country because of high costs and charges that are detrimental to air transport growth.

He categorised Nigeria among countries like France, India, Japan, Saudi Arabia and Pakistan which are at implementation phase of airport concession or privatisation.
Bahrain, Canada, Philippines and the United States are at inception phase while Australia, Brazil, Chile, Greece, New Zealand, Portugal and Senegal are at the post implementation phase.
Minister of State for Aviation, Hadi Sirika, had consistently said that that there is not much government could do in terms of investing more funds to develop the airports, as government does not have such funds and there is better alternative to improving the infrastructure through airports concessions.

He listed the airports to be concessioned as Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos; the Nnamdi Azikiwe Airport, Abuja; Port Harcourt International Airport and the Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport, Kano while others would follow in the next phase.
He was, however, silent on the impact of it on higher charges, but reiterated the need to concession the airports, describing the plan as the only viable option to modernise and make the airports serve travellers better. Careen stated that governments’ struggle to move quickly and the cashstrapped state of their finances is fuelling a trend of looking to the private sector for solutions.
He stressed that successful airport privatisation should deliver a more efficient, cheaper and better service for passengers; cost effective and fit for purpose investment; normal returns on capital for investors and the economic benefits for the local community and the wider economy.

His words: “Clearly, the generally accepted perceptions of introducing privatisation have not held true in the airport sector. Charges are higher for privatised airport – this is not what we should expect from privatisation in any sector. Our customers or governments would not accept it if airline fares increased during privatisation or concession in our sector.
“Operating efficiency are not much better for privatised airports contrary to the expectation of introducing private sector practices. But even though efficiency is not better, profits are significantly higher.
Clearly, airport privatisation comes at a price – a price which we and our customers have to pay. “Our goal is to explain to aviation stakeholders why privatisation in the monopoly airport sector is not working for the best interests of long-term socio- economic benefits and consumers and why this is different from the successes seen in the competitive airline sector.”
He further disclosed that privatised airports have failed to deliver because of lack of competition, ineffective economic regulation, short term financial gains instead of best consumer/ public interest, alternative governance solutions not considered, insufficient consultation with industry and lack of transparency in transaction process. “Governments have not developed a robust business case.

There is lack of transparency in the transaction process and often the process is driven by unsolicited proposals, interested private parties or financiers. There is a lack of bidder selection criteria and often the highest bidder is simply selected and/or there are vague or provider-biased concession contract terms,” the IATA chief stated.

Max Air Acquires 3 Aircraft To Boost Domestic Route

Published 1 min ago on June 4, 2018

By ABDULLAHI YAKUBU

Max Air Max Air Airline yesterday launched domestic operation in Kano, with three Boeing 737-300 serviceable aircrafts billed to commence domestic operation soon. Speaking to newsmen at Malam Aminu Kano International Airport (MAKIA, the airline’s director of Operations, Captain Ibrahim Dilli, said the aim of the domestic route was to provide excellent service to the public.

According to him, the airline has employed over 300 Nigerians to serve in the operation of domestic routes, adding that over 50 cabin crew members have also been trained to handle the domestic routes. Dilli said the capacity of the Boeing 737-300 series aircraft is 128 passengers seat, including six cabin crew members to boost the domestic route. He further stated that, “You see when you provide air services as a social service; you will not only rely on people who are well-to-do or can provide international patronage. You have to, sometimes, stretch into the local market.

“So, that is why we are now trying to come into the domestic service to provide service for all. “You see, the essence of our venturing into domestic service is primarily to provide transportation to the public; but secondly, it is to provide employment—as we speak now, Max Air has employed over 300 people to service the domestic market. “Our target is to be felt all over Nigeria. Like I promise two weeks ago, every state capital will feel our presence.

“We have two Boeing 737—300 series on ground and more are coming. The aircrafts have the capacity of 128 passengers, with six crew members. At the moment, we have trained 50 cabin crew members to service the domestic routes. “We shall commence operation very soon, as soon as the third aircraft arrives. We are entering into the domestic market with three aircrafts, and we hope to expand up to 12 aircrafts of the same make for domestic operation. “By regulation, you can only start operating when you have three aircrafts. Now, we have three serviceable aircraft so that we will not disappoint the public in case of breakdown. So, as soon as we bring in the third one, we will commence operation.”

RHAPSODY OF REALITIES

MONDAY, 4TH JUNE.

RECEIVE THE WORD WITH GLADNESS.

And now, brethren, I commend you to God, and to the word of his grace, which is able to build you up, and to give you an inheritance among all them which are sanctified (Acts 20:32).

The Word illuminates, informs and builds your spirit, bringing you into the place that the Lord has already given you, helping you understand the life that you’re supposed to live. The Word gives you divine insight into mysteries and secrets. So, when you’re studying the Word on your own, or hearing it being preached or taught, rejoice and receive it with gladness.
When you receive the Word with gladness, very easily, it imparts faith and courage to your spirit.

The Bible lets us know that in Christ, you’ve obtained an inheritance; that’s a legal reality. However, for you to use, enjoy, and walk in the vital reality of your inheritance in Christ, you need the Word. The Word of God—the Bible—is the book of your inheritance. As you study and meditate therein, all that rightly belong to you in Christ aren’t only unveiled to you, but become your vital experience.

The Bible says through knowledge shall the just be delivered (Proverbs 11:9). The just are those who have the nature and life of Christ in their spirits, those who are born again; through knowledge—the knowledge of God’s Word—they’re delivered, not from trouble, but into their inheritance. The Word of God is what catapults you into that large place which the Psalmist spoke of in Psalm 18:19; a place of wealth, health and prosperity.

It’s therefore important that you get to know and possess your inheritance through the Word. Read our opening scripture again: it isn’t just talking about the ownership of the inheritance, but the possession of the same through, and by the Word.

PRAYER

Righteous Father, your Word is life to me, and it puts me over and above circumstances. I’m built, energised, and rightly positioned by your Word, and the Holy Spirit for increased prosperity and supernatural accomplishments. The lines are fallen unto me in pleasant places, I have a goodly and awesome heritage, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.

FURTHER STUDY:

1 Thessalonians 2:13 For this cause also thank we God without ceasing, because, when ye received the word of God which ye heard of us, ye received [it] not [as] the word of men, but as it is in truth, the word of God, which effectually worketh also in you that believe.

Luke 8:15 But that on the good ground are they, which in an honest and good heart, having heard the word, keep [it], and bring forth fruit with patience.

2019 Presidency: We Won’t Wait For You –youths Tell Buhari
User Avatar Forum: Retired Forums. Please Make Your Post Within The 3 Forums In General Discussion
Posted by: Edoman - 06-04-2018, 03:49 AM - No Replies

Quote:Omoniyi Salaudeen; Onyedika Agbedo; Olakunle Olafioye

As critical stakeholders continue to express support for a paradigm shift in the leadership of the country through the Not-Too-Young-To-Rule bill recently signed into law by President Muhammadu Buhari, the Nigerian youths have turned down the plea of the president who had jocularly asked them to wait till the end of his second term in 2023.

In a quick response to the president’s teaser, the National Leader of the Arewa Youth Consultative Forum (AYCF), Ahmed Yerima, declared the readiness of the youths to take over the reign of power in 2019, saying that “strategies are already being put in place to bring up somebody who would look at Nigeria as his own constituent, where all of us will begin to see ourselves as Nigerians.

“It is commendable that President Muhammadu Buhari signed the bill, but it is long overdue. It is also not enough to sign the bill, it must also be implemented. The youths must also rise to the occasion and work harder to take over the governance of this country.

“With or without the bill, nobody can stop any Nigerian from contesting any position in this country. The youths have to rise to the occasion. That the president said the youths should wait till after 2023 is a matter of opinion.

There is nowhere it is stated in the constitution that Nigerian youths should not contest or should wait till after 2023. Nigerians will decide that.”

Speaking against the back- drop of the moneybags, who currently dominate the political space, he said: “If he (Buhari) can make it, youths can also make it. So, it is not all about money.

The awareness is increasing. Nigerians are now wiser, knowing that politics is not all about money; it is about capacity to deliver and take the country to the next level.

Moneybag politics has not taken this country anywhere; rather, we are retrogressing every day. It is high time we began to look at people based on merit, based on their capacity. So, it is better to encourage the younger ones to take over the leader- ship of this country. Money or no money, we must ensure that credible leaders are elected.

“I don’t think Nigerians want to go back to the same thing over and over again. I strongly believe Nigerian youths can do it better.”

Similarly, President General, Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council Worldwide, Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro, also lauded Buhari for assenting to the bill into law, adding that “it’s going to open the channel for a new, fresh, vibrant, innovative and young Nigerian of Igbo extraction to become the president of Nigeria if possible in 2019.”

He stressed that Nigerian youths are hungry for power and might run against him if he fails to appease them.

“Indeed, in my personal view, the Nigerian democracy will be strengthened if the youth tastes their popularity against Mr President in 2019.

“I salute the president for assenting to the Not-Too- Young-To-Run bill. It is a welcome development in our polity and it’s going to strengthen our democracy.

But from the point of view of how it pertains to the young generation of Ndigbo, the Not-Too-Young- To-Run Act will favour them greatly, because it means that in the nearest future, the younger generation of Ndigbo will take over all the government houses in Igbo land, having understood that those who have been occupying the government houses in the past have betrayed them.

“The Act has also opened a new chapter in our national politics and will address a lot of abnormalities in the system, which includes an Igbo man becoming the president of Nigeria, and by this I mean a young Nigerian who never saw the war.

Those who saw the war, and are alive today, are afraid of handing over power to somebody from this part of the country who witnessed the war. So, the Act will break the jinx and has, therefore, given hope to vibrant Igbo youths to run for the presidency in 2019,” Isiguzoro said.

Reminded that the president has appealed to the youths not to run against him in 2019, Isiguzoro said that Buhari has a democratic right to woo Nigerian youths, noting, however, that it was left for younger Nigerians to decide whether to run against him or not.

His words: “If the president is appealing that youths should not run against him in 2019, then there must be a concrete agreement where he would pledge to hand over to an Igbo man in 2023. But if such agreement does not come up, then a young, vibrant, Igbo man will run against him in 2019.”

Isiguzoro, however, said that the youths might consider heeding Buhari’s appeal for the singular reason that he assented to the bill, which has encouraged them to venture into politics early in their lives.

“But does it mean that Mr President is afraid of running against a young, vibrant youth possibly from any part of the country? If Mr President is afraid of the youth running against him, he must appease them before the 2019 election because Nigerian youths that I know, who are hungry for power, may run against him,” he said.

Also speaking, Secretary, Eastern Consultative Assembly, Evangelist Elliot Ugochukwu-Uko, though com-
mending the bill, he expressed reservation for its workability in view of the inherent impediments against the youths in the present electoral system.

“It’s a good thing. It has opened the door for young people, but we are not excited about it because we under- stand the corruption within the electoral system. We understand the impediments to participatory democracy in Nigeria; we understand the mindset of the current leadership so nobody is excited about it,” he said.

Ugochukwu-Uko, who is former President of Igbo Youth Movement (IYM), further said that Buhari’s appeal to the youth not to run against him was not important.

“The reality is that he is likely to be defeated and he is likely not to accept it.

That is the problem facing Nigeria at the moment. His own people from his own region have been holding meetings every- day for the past two or three months to select a consensus alternative. It’s clear he is not going to survive the 2019 election.

But the problem is that he controls everything today. Will he accept the verdict of the people? The youth should face the reality that we are all in trouble if we don’t reconstruct Nigeria back to true fiscal federalism. It’s only true federalism that will save Nigeria,” he said.

Also the National Secretary, Arewa United Consultative Forum, Comrade Ibrahim Abubakar Jagaban, commended Buhari for assenting to the bill, but urged Nigerian youths to support the president’s re-election bid in 2019 instead of contesting against him.

“The passage of the bill is a step in the right direction because governance is supposed to involve all and sun- dry. There should be balance between the aged, the not- too-old and the youth.

Youths are expected to sustain leadership, but if they don’t get exposure to the nitty-gritty of leadership from the old guards, there will be no way they will be able to take over from them,” he said.

When reminded that the president who was appealing to the youths not to run against him had earlier dubbed them as lazy, Jagaban retorted: “I think that is the personal view of the president looking at it from the angle that he thinks he started a project to revamp the economy and he needs more time to consolidate.

If the youth should come out now, that may take the shine off his popularity that could help him clinch the second term mandate. I think that is the angle he is coming from.

“My view about this government is that we have a government that is keen to taking the masses along. And if a project has started in the direction, I think the government should be allowed to consummate it.

I am a youth; I don’t have any- thing against the youth, but I just think we should allow this government to complete what it has started so that we don’t fritter away the gains the government has made so far,” he said.

The Nigeria Police Force has made known the reason it summoned Senate President Bukola Saraki to answer to allegations surrounding his links to the armed robbers who raided banks in Offa in April.
It said five principal suspects, among 15 others paraded in Abuja in connection to the Offa robbery, indicted the senate president in their statements.

According to police spokesperson Jimoh Moshood, one Ayoade Akinnibosun among the suspects and acclaimed leader of the robbery gang said they were political thugs of Saraki and Kwara state governor Abdulfatah Ahmed.

Moshood said at a press briefing in Sbujs on Sunday: “The Five (5) gang leaders namely; Ayoade Akinnibosun, Ibukunle Ogunleye, Adeola Abraham, Salawudeen Azeez, Niyi Ogundiran and some of the other Seventeen (17) suspects arrested for direct involvement and active participation in the Offa Bank Robbery and the gruesome killing of THIRTY THREE (33) innocent persons which includes (some pregnant women and nine (9) Police personnel) admitted, confessed and volunteered statements that they were political thugs of the Senate President, Federal Republic of Nigeria, Sen. Bukola Saraki and the Executive Governor of Kwara State, Alh. Abdulfatah Ahmed.
“The Five (5) gang leaders further confessed during investigation that they are political thugs under the name Youth Liberation Movement a.k.a “Good Boys” admitted and confessed to have been sponsored with firearms, money and operational vehicles by the Senate President, Sen.   US Visit: Atiku Has Disqualified Himself From Presidential Race – Sagay
User Avatar Forum: Retired Forums. Please Make Your Post Within The 3 Forums In General Discussion
Posted by: Edoman - 06-04-2018, 03:45 AM - No Replies

Temidayo Akinsuyi, Lagos

Prof. Itse Sagay (SAN), Chairman of the Presidential Advisory Committee Against Corruption (PACAC) at the weekend said former Vice- President, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar has already disqualified himself from the 2019 presidential election by saying he can rule Nigeria without travelling to the United States of America (USA).
It will be recalled that Atiku, a leading presidential aspirant on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) made the remark during an interview with the British Broadcasting Corporation Hausa Service when he was asked how he intended to be Nigeria’s president without visiting the US.
In the interview, Atiku asked whether it was a constitutional provision that one must visit the US before becoming president. “I can be president without going to America,” he said.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with DAILY INDEPENDENT, Sagay said judging by the statement, Atiku is already telling Nigerians that he is not fit to be the president of the country.
According to him, it is surprising how a presidential candidate will want to isolate himself and the country from the United States which is the greatest player in the economic and political spheres in the world.

According to Sagay “As we say in law, res ipsa loquitur. The question has already been answered. In my view, when a presidential aspirant or candidate says that he can rule this country without being able to visit the United States or any other major capital of the world, what he is telling us is that ‘I am not qualified to be President’.
“So, Atiku has already answered the question of his fitness for the office by that statement ‘ I can rule Nigeria without going to the United States’.
“What does that mean? Are you barred from the United States? If you are barred, what for? If you are not barred, why don’t you want to go?”.
“The United States is the greatest player in the economic and political spheres of this world. It is the number one country. So, what sort of president are you going to be if for a reason or the other you can’t go or you refuse to go? Why do you want to make the United States your enemy?”
“So, for me he has answered that question. He has disqualified himself from the presidential race” he said.

The President of the Senate, Dr. Bukola Saraki, was implicated by the Offa Robbery suspects, whom the police claimed were working for the Senator.

However in a press release signed by his Special Adviser (Media and Publicity), Mr. Yusuph Olaniyonu, the Senate President maintained that there is no how he could have been involved in armed robbery against his own people.

See the press release:

Quote:“The attention of the Senate President, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki, has been drawn to a story circulating online and apparently derived from a Press Conference addressed by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Moshood Jimoh, linking him (Saraki) to the Offa robbery.

“Dr. Saraki will want the entire public to disregard this claim as a baseless allegation and another ploy by the Police to implicate him by all means.

“Let it be known that there is no way I could have been associated with armed robbery against my people.

“When the Offa robbery incident happened, I was the first top public official to pay a visit to the place and right there in the palace of the traditional ruler, I put a call through to this same Mr. Ibrahim Idris, the IGP, requesting him to make certain specific security arrangements as demanded by the people.

“Members of the public will remember that on May 16, 2018, I alerted the Senate about the information passed on to me by my State Governor, Dr. Abdulfatai Ahmed, over a plot by the Inspector General of Police, Mr. Ibrahim Idris, to frame me up by getting some suspected cultists arrested in Ilorin to implicate me. It is believed that the timely leakage of the plot in that case aborted the use of the suspected cultists to implicate me. Now, it is the Offa bank robbery suspects that are about to be used.

“This plot is concocted to embarrass me and, in the mind of the IGP, it is his own response after his refusal to honour the invitation by the National Assembly, headed me, for him to come and offer explanations on the rampant killings and violence across the country.

“Like the earlier one, this frame-up will also fail as I hereby state categorically that I have no link with any band of criminals.

“As a person who has utmost respect for the rule of law and all constitutional institutions, when the invitation from the Police is formally extended to me, I will be ready to honour it without any delay.

“It is however sad that this abuse of the criminal investigation process aimed at intimidating and over-overawing the legislature, thereby obstructing it from doing its work, is a big threat to our democracy “, the Senate President stated.

Signed

Yusuph Olaniyonu

IGP Idris Gets Buhari’s Nod To Arrest Saraki Over Murders In Kwara
User Avatar Forum: Retired Forums. Please Make Your Post Within The 3 Forums In General Discussion
Posted by: Edoman - 06-04-2018, 03:32 AM - No Replies

Quote:Samuel Ogundipe

President Muhammadu Buhari on Friday said he had no objections to any plan by the police to arrest Senate President Bukola Saraki over a string of murder cases in Kwara State, PREMIUM TIMES has learnt.

The president received Inspector-General Ibrahim Idris at the State House on Friday afternoon, during which he was told of at least 20 murders allegedly linked to Mr Saraki in his home state, according to multiple sources briefed of the meeting.

Sources said the police chief arrived at the State House with a cornucopia of homicide investigation documents relating to Mr Saraki. The top lawmaker could be arrested any day from now following the president’s position that the law should run its course insofar as detectives have sufficient facts to file charges.

Already, the police have declared Mr Saraki a person of interest in the deadly robbery incident in Offa, the second-largest settlement in Kwara State. The police said at least 17 persons, including nine police officers, were killed and five banks raided in the April 5 attack.

The police said the death toll from the robbery has risen steadily to 33 as at last week. Twenty 22 suspects, including a dismissed police sergeant, have been announced arrested.

Mr Saraki was amongst the first set of leaders to condemn the attack and called for a sweeping investigation and prosecution of all suspects.
In a statement on Sunday, police spokesperson, Jimoh Moshood, said at least five of the suspects arrested in the robbery “admitted and confessed to have been sponsored with firearms, money and operational vehicles” by Mr Saraki and Abdulfatah Ahmed, the state governor.

While parading the suspects on Sunday afternoon, Mr Moshood identified one of them as Ayoade Akinnibosun, a 37 years old resident of the state and the ‘overall’ leader of the armed gang. His vehicle was allegedly one of those used in the robbery. A number plate allegedly registered in Mr Akinnibosun’s name superimposed on a sticker number plate which had ‘SARAKI’ boldly written on it.

Amongst top Kwara government officials named in the robbery were Yusuf Abdulwahab, the chief of staff to the governor, and the environment commissioner.

The police said Mr Abdulwahab, 58, had been taken into custody, but it was not immediately clear whether it was in connection to the robbery. Some local news reports out of Kwara said Mr Abdulwahab was arrested on fraud charges unrelated to the robbery two days ago.

Mr Sakari has been asked to turn himself in at the police intelligence department in Guzape, Abuja. No date was specified for the summon. The Senate President could be arrested if he fails to turn himself in as demanded by the police, especially as he enjoys no immunity from prosecution.

But Mr Ahmed, whose position as governor accords him absolute immunity from criminal charges, has denied the police claims against him .

In a statement to PREMIUM TIMES Monday afternoon, Mr Ahmed said the police allegation that he armed and funded suspects for political thuggery or for any other activity was “false and unfounded.”

The governor said he had never been involved in or encouraged “thuggery or any other form of criminality.” He said the state government provided funds for youth in the state for small businesses; but neither him nor the state government should be held responsible for how the youth use such funds.

On his part, it was not immediately clear whether the Senate President will honour the invitation. His spokesperson, Yusuph Olaniyonu, Sunday afternoon did not return PREMIUM TIMES telephone calls and text messages seeking comments about the police invitation and Mr Buhari’s approval.

Presidential spokespersons, Femi Adesina and Garba Shehu, did not return multiple requests for comments. Neither did Mr Moshood answer enquiries about Mr Idris’ visit to the State House and the invitation to Mr Saraki.
The disclosure that Mr Saraki had been implicated in murder cases comes three weeks after an open confrontation played out between the police and the top lawmaker.

But the confrontation was over separate criminal suspects arrested in connection to multiple gang killings the state over the past two years. The police abruptly moved the suspects to Abuja after the were arrested in Kwara and charges were being prepared against them over there.

On May 16, the day the police transferred the suspects, Mr Saraki alerted the nation of an alleged plan by Mr Idris and his police team to implicate him in criminal matters.

The top lawmaker told the Senate plenary that Mr Ahmed informed him the suspects were being transferred to Abuja to ease the alleged sinister plot by the police.

The police fiercely rejected the claim in a statement the same day, reprimanding Mr Saraki for his conduct and warning to desist from compromising an ongoing criminal investigation.

Judicial authorities in Kwara asked the police to return the suspects to the state for trial because their charges had already been prepared, a demand that hit a brick wall with the police.

There were initial reports that the suspects, some of whom PREMIUM TIMES later found were suspected cultists , confessed they were sponsored by Mr Saraki, but the Kwara government swiftly debunked the claims , insisting that the suspects did not indict anyone.

Neither the 22 suspects arrested in the Offa robbery nor the murder suspects in cultist clashes have been charged to court. The police earlier stated that they would charge all the suspects upon conclusion of preliminary investigations.

It was not immediately clear how the police arrived at the 20 murders reportedly linked to Mr Saraki when they confirmed 33 deaths in the Offa robbery incident alone. But his arrest, notwithstanding the severity, could prove politically toxic for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), said political analyst, Sola Olubanjo.

When Mr Saraki first alleged attempt to frame him up on May 16, the Senate constituted a nine-member emissary to appeal to Mr Buhari to prevail on Mr Idris to relax criminal allegations against the top lawmaker.

Mr Saraki has also been leading a pack of politicians who allege marginalisation within the APC. The politicians, under the so-called nPDP, hold individual grudges, which range from alleged marginalisation over the past three years to their future standing within the ruling party.

Last week, the members met with Vice President Yemi Osinbajo at the State House, but details of their discussion were not immediately disclosed.

Mr Buhari was not a part of the meeting, but there was optimism amongst the nPDP members that they would still meet the president.

“You have a ruling party that is facing a general election in less than a year away and its Number One is fighting its Number Three,” Mr Olubanjo said of Mr Buhari and Mr Saraki, who is generally seen as the third most-powerful personality in the country, coming behind the vice president.

“The president is putting the party and his own political future in a critical situation.”

“I am not trying to defend criminality,” the analyst said. “But if we are to be objective in analysing how the police have handled this matter, we would see clearly that they have nothing against the Senate leader but only on a mission to destroy him by all means.”

Bolaji Abdullahi, the national spokesperson for the APC, did not immediately return PREMIUM TIMES’ calls seeking comments about the political fallout of Mr Saraki’s run-in with federal authorities.

A media consultant for the party who spoke with PREMIUM TIMES said he would not be able to immediately quantify how devastating it would be for the APC if Mr Saraki is arrested.

“I would rather tell you that IGP Idris did not make such request to the president on Friday,” said Ayo Akanji, who frequently visits the State House as a media consultant to the administration. “Even if he did, the president did not approve it.”

“Arresting the Senate President could thwart the ongoing reconciliation efforts and that may not be good for the party,” Mr Akanji added.

If Mr Saraki turns himself in and is charged, it would be another criminal charge since becoming Senate President in June 2015. He had been previously docked at the Code of Conduct Tribunal for false and anticipatory declaration of assets. He was discharged and acquitted on all 18 counts, but the Court of Appeal upheld all but two of the charges and returned them to the tribunal.

Prophet Elijah Ayodele: "Fayemi Will Win Ekiti Governorship Elections"

Quote:Prophet Ayodele reveals winners of Ekiti, Osun governorship elections

A foremost seer and prophet, Primate Elijah Babatunde Ayodele, has revealed outcome of the forthcoming governorship elections in Ekiti and Osun States.

He predicted that while Kayode Fayemi will clinch Ekiti, APC will also retain Osun State.

Ayodele made the predictions during an empowerment programme on Saturday in his church.

He said: “On the forthcoming elections in Ekiti and Osun states, PDP will lose Ekiti and Fayemi should take the right step and watch his utterances so if he is desirous of taking over from Fayose.

“He would lose the election if he fails to listen to instructions. He must beam his electioneering campaign at the grassroots.

“In Osun, PDP has missed it. APC in Osun can still retain the seat if they pick the right candidate and the right candidate is in Aregbesola’s cabinet.

“I want to appeal to the Senate President, Bukola Saraki to put a lot of things into consideration and take a bold step to contest the presidency. He will survive despite the fact that he is in the midst of crisis,” he declared.

Ayodele called on President Muhammadu Buhari to, as a matter of urgency, address the security challenge posed by killer herdsmen in the country.

He said Buhari must arrest the situation so as to prevent the security situation in the country from degenerating further.

He called on the president to show more concern about the challenges confronting the nation.

“Buhari has done well in the fight against corruption but has missed a lot of things that needed to be given priority attention. That is why his second term is not certain.

“The President needs to address the issue of insecurity in Nigeria. Mosques will still be attacked, churches will still be attacked because the government got it wrong on the issue of herdsmen.

“The president should be more proactive about the security of the nation. There is need for the government to overhaul the nation’s security agencies as a way of dealing with this challenge.”

I'm Afraid Opposition Has More Money - Buhari
User Avatar Forum: Retired Forums. Please Make Your Post Within The 3 Forums In General Discussion
Posted by: Edoman - 06-03-2018, 06:38 PM - No Replies

President Muhammadu Buhari expressed fears yesterday that the opposition in the country has stupendous resources at its disposal in preparation for the 2019 elections which the ruling All Progressives Congress , APC, may not be able to match.

The President also said that the opposition elements were sponsoring mischief against his government in a bid to discredit him and make him unpopular.

In its immediate reaction however, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, said President Buhari should rather be afraid of his rejection by Nigerians who have made up their minds to throw him out in 2019 as a result of his failure in government President Buhari, in his speech, when the Buhari Media Organization, BMO, paid him a courtesy visit at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, sympathised with those who were supporting his government in view of the increasing opposition against him.

He however appreciated the efforts of members of the group who he said may have lost their friends for just supporting him, stressing that it was a great sacrifice they were making without financial rewards.

According to him, “I don’t think I can thank you enough for your steadfastness under very difficult circumstances. It is not easy to defend this administration and more in particular to defend me."

“But your consistency has given me a lot of confidence. And I know you are doing it as a sacrifice not only in terms of physical or mental but material sacrifice. Because as I keep on saying, the opposition elements are now sitting on incredible resources which I am afraid we might not match at all. For that reason, the opposition is sponsoring mischief from different angles which in spite of the incumbency of government we cannot absolutely stop."

“It is you who are fighting it and I cannot thank you enough for that. Most of the people I jailed have been given back all that they had taken before I was jailed”.

The President then went on memory lane on the decision he took as a military head of state where he ordered the arrest, detention and prosecution of those who allegedly looted public funds, but also noted that those who were found not guilty were discharged.

He said, “Most of those people who were judged by the various tribunals have been given back what they have taken. I spent 18 months in detention and luckily they did not find anything against me and I was released. But my problem was that there was a journalist from Edo State who wrote an article on me that my mother had to die to save me."

This was because I was only released when my mother died to go and bury her. Of course, you know as a Muslim tradition demands that you are buried where you die.

“So, I can appreciate the sacrifices most of you sitting here have made in terms of materialism or even losing some of your friends to continue to support me. I have been here for three years and you have proved to people that you are not here for material things, but out of sacrifice and the strength of the moral courage you have is the the strength of the physical, it is the strength of losing the friends you have."

“I am sure you are being asked, this support you are busy giving Buhari, what do you get out of it. And that is why I commend your steadfastness and I am very grateful for it. In this country whether people like it or not, they will remain grateful for your courage because you have the courage to do the research, to take the time to reply mischievous representation and we are very grateful.”

In his remarks, the leader of Buhari Media Organization which was formerly known as Buhari Media Support Organization, Austin Braimoh said, the group believed in the government of President Buhari.

He said the group had in the course of carrying out its assignment used various organs of mass communication to project the administration, stressing that it changed the negative narratives the opposition was dishing out when President Buhari went on medical vacation to London.

PDP replies Buhari Meanwhile, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) yesterday dismissed President Muhammadu Buhari’s remark about the opposition having too much money going into the 2019 elections.

The party said rather than worry about the opposition, President Buhari should reckon with his failure to deliver on promises made to Nigerians during the electioneering campaign for the 2015 polls. National Publicity Secretary of the Party, Kola Ologbondiyan told Vanguard that the real fear the first citizen should worry about is the betrayal of trust of Nigerians. “He should be worried about the failure of his government, not about money in the hands of the opposition.

In 2015, Nigerians trusted Muhammadu Buhari and voted him to become President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces. One clear year to the 2019 general elections, the same people have rejected him for failing to do anything meaningful to impact on their lives So, what should be his fear is the rejection by Nigerians who have made up their minds to throw him out in 2019,” Ologbondiyan said.

Also speaking, former Minister of Special Duties and 2019 Presidential aspirant on the platform of the PDP, Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, said “Buhari’s fear is a misplaced one. At any time, no individual or political party can boast of the enormous resources in the hands of the government".

Recently, the Federal government unilaterally approved the withdrawal of $1billion from the Excess Crude Account (ECA) without legislative approval and concerns were raised that the money could be used to prosecute the 2019 elections. The government he controls has more money than any imagined opposition and so, he should tell us something different.”

Also reacting to President Buhari’s remark, the All Progressive Grand Alliance, APGA, yesterday, said it does not play money politics, but politics of ideology and policy formulations to deepen democracy and deliver good governance to the citizenry.

National Publicity Secretary of APGA, Mr. Iheanacho Orji, faulted apprehension by President Muhammadu Buhari that the opposition has enormous money at its disposal than the ruling All Progressive Congress, APC.

According to him, “How could the opposition have more money than the All Progressive Congress, APC, which controls the presidency, is it possible? In a nutshell, the President’s statement could not be factual.

We know there are 68 political parties, the moment you remove PDP, you remove APGA, we have 66 other parties remaining who are not controlling executive positions in the state not to talk of the presidency.

“There is no way the opposition will have more money than the ruling party that controls more executive positions both in the states and the presidency. APGA does not play money politics; we play clear ideological politics and so, whether we have the money or not is not the issue, we don’t involve ourselves in money politics. We play ideological politics, and we are pure to the sensibility of the masses. We play politics based on policies and ideas for the betterment of the country.”

Focus on security, not 2019 elections, CSOs urge Buhari Similarly, some Civil Society Organisations have urged President Muhammadu Buhari,to focus on security and not 2019 elections.

The Country Director, Actionaid, Ene Obi, in his reaction said Buhari should not be concerned more about his presidential ambition than the incessant loss of lives on a daily basis and how to ensure the recovery of looted money and conviction of looters. According to Obi the president should think more about the plight of Nigerians who are not having access to the basic necessities of life, and also to work hard for the unity and peace of Nigeria.

According to her: “President Buhari should pay more attention to national security, the lives of Nigerian citizens, and the fight against corruption. He should charge the justice system to get more convictions on those who looted the economy. Recovered money should make a difference in the lives of Nigerians from where the monies were stolen from.

She urged Buhari to make sure the people were carried along in his policies and programmes, and also to take care of vulnerable Nigerians, especially the internally displaced persons. In his own reaction, the Country Director, Nation First Foundation, Onianwa Elidad, said President Buhari should focus more on Nigerians and how to add value to their lives because they come first before any political ambition.

“It is not good to hear this from President Muhammadu Buhari at this point. The nation should come first before any other thing, and his accusation against the opposition party could be analysed from different directions, particularly, with accusations that he has been selective in the fight against corruption.

“Mr. President, please, you should do what the constitution has mandated you especially in securing the lives of Nigerians, providing shelter and food for them. Improve on your economic policies and add value to the lives of over 180 million Nigerians”, he added.

Former member of the House of Representatives, Hon West Idahosa, who also reacted to the president’s remark said “Buhari’s statement is purely diversionary. It is public knowledge that most of the opposition members standing trial and even those under investigation have their accounts frozen.

The only ones with plenty cash are ministers and heads of parastatals as well as former opposition stalwarts who are now in APC, the president’s party. God bless Nigeria.”

Congress Fallout: APC Shocks Tinubu, Ajimobi, Kwankwaso, Dogara, Amaechi, Others
User Avatar Forum: Politics

Quote:INTENSE politicking with far-reaching electoral implications appears ahead of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), as some of the leading lights suffered crunchy political blows in the resolution of the crisis arising from its ward, local government and state congresses.

‘Already, big names like the national leader, Bola Tinubu, Oyo State governor, Abiola Ajimobi, former Kano State governor, serving senator Rabiu Kwakwanso, Speaker, House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, former Rivers State governor and Minister of Transport, Rotimi Amaechi, controversial Delta senator, Ovie Omo-Agege, former Cross River governor and one-time national chairmanship aspirant, Clement Ebri, have lost out in the struggle to either have absolute control of party structures in their states or sustain their political relevance there, Sunday Tribune can reveal.

The National Working Committee (NWC) of the party, last Friday, began work on the reports from the various appeal panels on the conduct of state congresses.

Nearly all the state chapters of the party, where the exercise took place, had factions conducting parallel congresses.

National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, confirmed to Sunday Tribune that the resolution meeting took place and some big names and their factions were adjudged to be in the wrong.
He also confirmed that the faction loyal to Tinubu, which conducted its ward and local government congresses in 57 local government councils and local council development areas, was overruled by the national leadership.

The state structure was, however, not handed to the Fouad Oki faction, judged to have conducted the exercise in line with the national and party laws, guiding such an exercise.

Abdullahi confirmed that a five-man panel was set up to dissect the constitutionality and legality of the two exercises conducted in Lagos State and find a political solution to the crisis in the state.
Tinubu had been quoted as dismissing any report of factions in the state chapter.

“Yes, we set up a panel to look at the issues in Lagos chapter. Of course, we overruled those who conducted their congress in 57 local government areas, because the constitution only recognises 20 local governments.

“We couldn’t have discountenanced those who conducted in 20 local government areas, because that is constitutional. The issue in Lagos is about legality and constitutionalism.
That is why we asked the committee to look at this first, because it is a constitutional matter, then seek political solutions in a way to avoid winner-take-all situation. That is what we said about Lagos State,” Abdullahi explained.

The panel is headed by the deputy national chairman, North, Senator Lawal Shuaibu, with members including the National Organising Secretary, Senator Osita Izunaso, Vice National Chairman, North-West Inuwa Abdulkadir, among others.

The panel is expected to begin sitting in Lagos today.
Sunday Tribune learnt that the factional state working committee headed by Oki would appear before the panel and likely without presenting it with any memo.

The panel has also been charged to resolve the logjam in Oyo State between factions loyal to the state governor, Ajimobi and Minister of Communications, Bayo Shittu.

Abdullahi confirmed that the congress conducted by the faction headed by the governor was denied an official recognition, with both factions asked to share the party executives.

“We said they should harmonise in Oyo State as a way of finding a political solution,” he stated.
When asked if it was true that the factions were asked to do it 50-50, Abdullahi said he couldn’t exactly remember what the sharing formula was, but that the idea of winner-takes-all would not apply.

Sunday Tribune, however, learnt that the committee was specifically charged with sharing of the state working committee membership into two equal halves for both factions.

If the committee succeeds in the implementation of the said resolution, it will be a major victory for the Shittu faction, known as Unity Forum.

A source in Ajimobi’s camp argued that only a valid court order could re-arrange the current situation by taking some slots away from the governor.

Abdullahi disagreed, saying that any form of inauguration done on the basis of the ward and local government congresses would amount to an illegality, because it was the state executive that would swear them in, after the NWC would have sworn in the state leaders.

He noted that, for now, NWC had not begun the process of inaugurating the state executive, which allows for harmonisation window.

Though he wasn’t specific about him, his position that nearly all the state chapters’ crises had been resolved, except for about four, confirmed that Imo State governor, Rochas Okorocha was also one of the casualties.

The party spokesperson explained that all factions that boycotted the exercise in protest of alleged irregularities, were ruled out of order in states where such occurred.

Dogara’s faction in Bauchi, Senator Shehu Sani’s faction in Kaduna and Kwakwanso’s in Kano were caught in the wrong crowd by the NWC’s position.

When the names of the party bigwigs leading the factions were reeled off to him as casualties, Abdullahi explained that it is settled in law that one cannot complain about a process he didn’t participate in.

“There would be nothing to protest because there was no participation,” he said.

It was learnt that crises in states like Kogi, Kwara, Delta, Cross River were resolved by basically going for the congresses supervised by the electoral committees set up by the NWC.

In Delta, the party has now been handed over to the Great Ogboru faction, leading to a huge loss for the faction led by Omo-Agege.

In Cross River, Minister of Niger-Delta Affairs, Usani Uguru Usani, carried the day over the Clement Ebri faction.

The protesting faction in Katsina, which is in court against the Governor Aminu Masari faction, supported by President Muhammadu Buhari, was also ruled offside by the party’s leadership.

Speaking on the crisis resolution by the NWC, which will continue tomorrow (Monday), Abdullahi stated that “we have just about four more states to resolve. Lagos, Oyo, Rivers and Bayelsa. We cancelled the Bayelsa exercise because the electoral committee that went there spilt and could not agree on the outcome. So we cancelled it. Rivers is a court matter and the panel will resolve Oyo and Lagos”.

Sunday Tribune learnt that for more than three hours, NWC members engaged in heated exchange over Rivers and Lagos chapters, because resolution could be reached.

A court order invalidated the Rivers exercise, which loyalists of Amaechi won.
It was gathered that the NWC decision was not only in favour of the cancellation, but the resolution would also include substantial gain for the faction led by Senator Magnus Abe.

Sunday Tribune however learnt that some state chapters would be approaching different courts tomorrow to further ventilate their grievances.
A faction in Lagos chapter is heavily tipped to file processes tomorrow.

Rhapsody Of Realities

Christ Our Life

Sunday, June 3rd

Pastor Chris

When Christ, who is our life, shall appear, then shall ye also appear with him in glory (Colossians 3:4).

Romans 8:11 declares: “If the Spirit of Him that raised Jesus from the dead lives in you, He shall vitalise your mortal body.” The life of the human body is in the blood (Leviticus 17:11), but for the one who’s born again, his body is made alive by the Spirit. Thus, your life is from the Spirit. There’s an effect of the Holy Spirit’s in your physical body.

Jesus said, l
“And these signs shall follow them that believe…if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them…”*_ (Mark 16:17-18). Why? It’s because we don’t live by blood; we live by the Holy Ghost! It’s incongruous with our true nature and identity for a Christian to be sick. That you feel a headache doesn’t mean you “have” it. But because many haven’t been taught right, they possess the headache because they feel it.

Another one says, “I have cancer,” because he was diagnosed with cancer. Yes, the doctors may have seen a growth somewhere in your body, but since Christ is in you, though your body be dead or ravaged by cancer, the Spirit gives it life because of righteousness (Romans 8:10). Just the realisation—your consciousness that Christ is your life, and that He has already quickened your mortal body is enough. The Bible says Christ in you, the hope of glory (Colossians 1:27).

How could you be sick when Christ lives in you? How could anything be wrong with your liver, heart, or kidney when Christ is your life? How could you fail, be defeated, or act foolishly when Christ, the embodiment and totality of wisdom, lives in you? It’s not possible! The trouble is that not too many are conscious of the life of Christ that’s in them.

For example, when Peter visited Aeneas, one of the believers in the early Church who was sick and paralyzed for eight years, he didn’t pray for him. All he said was, “Aeneas, Christ makes you well; rise and make your bed”; and that was it. The man rose up immediately (Acts 9:33-34). Become conscious that Christ lives in you; He’s your life, and He makes you well. Hallelujah! Walk in the dominion and power of His glory and righteousness in you.

Prayer

Christ is my life, and I walk in the glory and power of His righteousness; I live by the law of the spirit of life, and I’m thoroughly vitalised by that divine life, walking in dominion over sickness, disease, poverty, and every consequence of sin, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.

...Someone tell @Fayemi that he can't kill his way to power. There is no place for violence in politics. God is with @GovAyoFayose . Any attempt to shame or frame him with murder shall fail. He is "Peter the Rock": the original "Oshokomole". He is irrepressable and unbeatable!

Sovereign Wealth Fund: More Lies From Presidency At Ramadan – Reno Omokri
User Avatar Forum: Politics
Posted by: Edoman - 06-02-2018, 02:46 PM - No Replies

To my dismay, I woke up on Friday the 1st of June 2018 to find out that President Buhari, who is meant to be on a Ramadan fast, had released a statement, through the Presidency’s Twitter handle, alleging that the Jonathan government, which created the Sovereign Wealth Fund in 2012, had failed to save money in the fund after the initial $1 billion deposit it made into it.

Such a lie, coming at a time when the President is meant to be fasting is shocking!

The truth is that after starting up the Sovereign Wealth Fund with an initial deposit of $1 billion in 2011, the Nigerian Governors Forum, led by Rotimi Amaechi and supported by other Governors who later joined the APC, took the Jonathan administration to court to declare the Sovereign Wealth Fund illegal and assert their claim that the Jonathan led Federal Government could not force them to save.

In fact, Mr, Rotimi Amaechi released a statement justifying his opposition to the Sovereign Wealth Fund on August 31, 2011 and said:

“The SWF is an attempt to desecrate section 162 of Nigeria’s Constitution.

Section 162(1), (2) and (10) of the 1999 Constitution prescribed the mode of sharing the revenue of the Federation.

It states that “the Federation shall maintain a special account to be called the Federation Account into which shall be paid all revenues collected by the Government of the Federation, except the proceeds from the personal income tax of the personnel of the Armed Forces of the Federation, the Nigeria Police Force, the Ministry or department of government charged with responsibility for Foreign Affairs and the residents of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja. The law says that anything that is outside the constitution is wrong and section 162 of the constitution also says so.”

Many attempts by the Jonathan administration to settle the matter out of court were rebuffed by Mr. Amaechi and his colleagues who had a hidden agenda to frustrate the plans by the Jonathan administration to save for a rainy day.

Working in tandem with Mr. Amaechi and his supporters in the Nigerian Governors Forum, the then minority APC members of the House of Representatives also filed another suit at a Federal High Court on the 7th of February, 2014, seeking a perpetual injunction restraining the Jonathan administration from operating the Excess Crude Account, from which they intended to source for money to fund the Sovereign Wealth Fund, and to pay all the proceeds of that account into the Federation Account for sharing amongst the three tiers of government.

As a result of these actions, the Jonathan administration paid the 36 states of the federation a total of N2.92 trillion from the Excess Crude Account between 2011 and 2014. Using the value of the Naira at that time that amount was just above $20 billion dollars.

It therefore amounts to historical revision for the Presidency to make these spurious allegations against the Jonathan administration,

President Muhammadu Buhari should be aware that just like I told him, after the many lies from his Democracy Day Speech, Ramadan fast does not just mean abstaining from food, it also means abstaining from lies.

*Billionaire Roman Abramovich of Russia became Israel’s wealthiest citizen on Monday.*

A Jew entitled to Israeli citizenship by law, Abramovich is now a permanent Israeli resident. The owner of Chelsea, he had been living in London for years, but was informed that his UK visa would not be renewed.

The UK has attempted to push out Russian oligarchs in recent months following the poisonings of Russian spy Sergei Skripal and his daughter in Salisbury in March. Abramovich also reportedly holds close ties with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

More than 30 powerful Russian Jewish businesspeople have opted to obtain Israeli citizenship in recent years. Not only is Israel the Jewish homeland, it provides a safe backup residence, as well as rights afforded to Israeli-passport holders, including tax benefits, some protection against extradition and the convenience of visa-free travel across the European Union.

However, Abramovich’s representative said  his strong identification as a Jew and his warm feelings towards Israel motivated him to make aliyah. His ex-wife Dasha Zhukova is Jewish, and is the mother of two of his seven children. Abramovich is also the chairman of the Federation of Jewish Communities of Russia, a trustee of the Moscow Jewish Museum and a backer of the Chabad-Lubavitch movement in Russia.

Abramovich has invested in more than a dozen Israel startups and venture funds since 2015, acquiring equity through two of his investment firms – Ervington Investments and Millhouse Capital.

Earlier this week, Tel Aviv University announced that Abramovich donated $30m  to build a new Center for Nanoscience and Nanotechnology. In March, he donated $20 million to go to a new nuclear medical facility at Israel’s largest hospital Sheba Medical Center.

Abramovich is the 10th wealthiest person in Russia, worth an estimated $10.8bn. But he didn’t start out that way. Born in Lithuania, he was orphaned by age four  and raised by his grandparents in the Russian Arctic Circle.

Airline operators threaten to stop VAT payment June 14

Airline operators threaten to stop VAT
By Abdullateef Aliyu, Lagos
[Image: 2017_11$largeimg12_Nov_2017_231902325.png]
There is an imminent face-off between the Federal Government and airline operators over payment of Value Added Tax (VAT). The operators under the umbrella of Airline Operators of Nigeria (AON) yesterday rose from their meeting where they resolved to stop remittances of VAT from June 14.

They also cautioned government against setting up a national carrier with tax payers’ money.

The CEO of Topbrass Aviation, Mr. Roland Iyayi, who briefed newsmen after the meeting, said the aviation industry is the only transportation sector still burdened with VAT payment.

“The AON’s position is that the VAT on airline ticket sales for domestic carriers must be removed completely forthwith as road transportation, rail, marine and international air travel carriers are not subjected to VAT.

“Moreover, a situation whereby some airlines are paying VAT while some other privileged airlines are not and the VAT which we pay is being used to subsidize our competitors against those that are making payment is unfair,” Iyayi said.

The indigenous airline operators in attendance were Alhaji Muneer Bankole, Chief Executive Officer of Med-View; Barr. Allen Onyema, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Air Peace; Mr. Roland Iyayi, CEO Topbrass Aviation; Capt. Nogie Megission, CEO, Jed Aviation who is also the Chairman of AON; Mr. Obi Mbanuzuo, the Chief Operating Officer (COO) of Dana Air; and top representatives of Azman Air; Firstnation Airways and Overland Airways, among others.

The Daily Trust gathered that there has been disquiet among airline operators over what they describe as “preferential treatment” given to airlines it manages - in apparent reference to Arik and Aero Contractors which were taken over by the government debt recovery agency, Assets Management Corporation of Nigeria (AMCON).

The operators, however, resolved that “Effective June 14, 2018, its members shall cease to make VAT remittances as this is unfair as some airlines are paying while some other airlines are not paying domestic VAT charges.”

The operators insisted that many charges imposed by the Federal Government on domestic carriers, including the five per cent passenger and cargo charges collected by the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), have driven away passengers while only seven airlines out of over 50 domestic carriers are currently in operation.

They said data collected from the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) indicated that passenger traffic has greatly reduced.

On the planned establishment of a national carrier, Iyayi said, “Whilst we are not averse to the government providing a conducive operating business environment and a level playing field for the establishment of a private sector driven flag carrier, the idea of using tax payers money to float a ‘national carrier’ in 2018 is not only counterproductive, but inimical to the overall interests of the present corps of private entrepreneurs.”

“In the overall scheme of things, “national carrier” can only result in a huge distortion to the current market and will be a huge drainpipe to government’s treasury, he said.”

They called on the Federal Government to clarify the agenda - whether it’s for job creation or for profit - as well as steps being taken in the establishment of the ‘national carrier’.

Furthermore, the operators berated the multiple entry points granted foreign airlines, saying the action further “decimates the domestic air travel market and depletes the nation’s foreign reserves and jobs.”

“AON’s position is that any foreign carrier should be restricted to only two points of entry into the country and explore interline options with domestic airline operators should it become necessary for expansion so as to protect capital flight and the jobs of our ailing Nigerian youths,” it added
