ABUJA—The Abuja Division of the Federal High Court, yesterday, sacked Senator Atai Aidoko, who represents Kogi East senatorial district. Aidoko The court, in a judgment delivered by Justice Gabriel Kolawole held that Aidoko wrongfully secured the senatorial ticket of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP. The court held that Aidoko was not properly nominated by the PDP for the March 2015 National Assembly election and consequently ordered Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to immediately withdraw his Certificate of Return. It held that the primary election PDP conducted on December 7, 2014, in Idah, Kogi State, through which the sacked lawmaker emerged, lacked integrity and credibility. The court directed INEC to issue a fresh certificate of return to Air Vice Marshal Isaac Alfa (retd), being the authentic winner of the PDP primary election. Justice Kolawole ordered the Clerk of the Senate to make arrangement for the immediate swearing-in of Alfa with all the benefits and entitlements paid to him, even as he awarded a cost of N750,000 against Aidoko and the PDP respectively. The judgment followed a pre-election suit Alfa filed before the high court, wherein he accused PDP of illegally nominating Aidoko as its candidate for the Kogi East senatorial election.

Anybody Who Succeeds Buhari Will Start From Scratch –Turaki

[url=https://independent.ng/wp-content/uploads/2018/06/Bar.-Kabiru-Tanimu-Turaki.jpg][Image: Bar.-Kabiru-Tanimu-Turaki-696x445.jpg]Bar. Kabiru Tanimu Turaki
Bar. Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, a former Minister of Special Duties and Inter-governmental Affairs during former President Goodluck Jonathan’s administration is  a member Board of Trustees (BoT) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).  He recently declared his intention to vie for the office of the President in the forthcoming 2019 elections. He spoke to CHIBUZOR EMEJOR on a wide range of issues such as Nigeria’s trajectory in democratic governance over the last 19 years, his blueprints for fixing Nigeria’s myriads of challenges, All Progressives Congress [APC] misrule in the last three years, among other topical issues. Excerpts:

How would you describe 19 years of uninterrupted democracy in Nigeria?
Nigeria’s 19 years of uninterrupted civil rule is not only profound but significant to any lover of democracy. For me as a lawyer and civil rights activist, and having played significant role in the struggle for the freedom of Nigerian citizens at various levels, I will say that this is something that is heart-warming. It has afforded Nigerians the opportunity to play significant role in the choices of who govern their affairs at every level of governance in this country. It means that indeed that Nigerian politicians can govern if only they are given opportunity to make mistakes and correct those mistakes themselves. Human beings by their very nature are fallible. If people in government make few mistakes and then the military jumped at it, and stayed for a longer time that is unnecessary. They will give civilians the opportunity to come back again after sometime. If civilians come back, mistakes will still have to be made. When politicians have been given the opportunity by Nigerian military to come in and build structures and institutions, and grow democracy, though we had some teething problems, as it were, in the beginning, but I tell you that the quality of representation and governance from 1999 has been increasing in each election. So people initially were not convinced that the military was sincere, when they decided to hand-over in 1999. For me, I think, it is remarkable, awesome, heart-warming and astonishing. The only thing is all Nigerians need to work hard to ensure that this democracy that a lot of people made sacrifices, is not taking lightly.

As a politician, don’t you think that Nigerians are disappointed considering the achievements recorded during these years of democracy?
Achievements have nothing to do with whether one is a politician or not. Because when a leader gets elected, the whole country becomes his constituency. So where a party wins national election, in any country not only in Nigeria, they are expected to provide dividends of democracy. So the disappointment arising from the abysmal performance of All Progressives Congress (APC) is not something that affects politicians alone, it affects every Nigerian. Every Nigerian you talk to today, even on social media, they all seem at all times to be discontent and disappointed with the activities of APC. Some complained that they have been used and dumped. The discontent, disappointment is something that affects all Nigerians, irrespective of who they are, where they come from, they have consistently expressed disappointment with this government.

Specifically, how would you assess the present administration as it has marked its three years in office on May 29th? Some people said the administration has done well  in the areas of improving the economy, waging war against corruption and providing security for the citizenry while others said it has performed woefully? What is your take?
I think these three issues you have raised are the campaign issues that were formulated by APC in 2015 election. They promised to improve the economy, fight corruption and provide security to protect lives and property of Nigerians. By the time they realised that the economy under PDP had done very well, they dropped that as an issue. But today, it has become an issue. It has become an issue because APC has performed very badly in the management of Nigerian economy. PDP handed over the economy that was rated as number one in Africa, the fastest growing economy in Africa. Nigeria alongside China, was the two most investors’ havens in the world. More investors were anxious to invest in Nigeria. Also investors who invested in the country were diversifying their investments. But today, they are looking for other places where their investments will be protected. Again, PDP tried to have the middle class. PDP had given young persons and women a lot of opportunities not only to get employed, but also to establish their business ventures. They have given opportunity to become what they want to be. We had been able to, through a well –organised management of the economy to make Nigerians who initially never believed in Nigeria, to begin to come back to Nigeria to work and assist in the development of Nigeria. They also brought their hard-earned money and invested into the country. These things don’t happen now. When you talk about insecurity, in 2015, APC was more concerned with the issue of the insurgency in the North East. I am talking about the three frontline states of Yobe, Borno and Adamawa. PDP was able to ensure that there was security for elections conducted in 774 local government areas in Nigeria. We did it. So, we were on the verge of bringing to a total end the issue of insurgency in the North East.  What we have today is that APC government has failed to conclude what PDP had started. There was a lot of reversal. Every day, we hear of killings either in Yobe, Adamawa or Taraba States. Worse still, the government keeps on telling lies that Boko Haram has been technically defeated. Then came other forms of insecurity that were not there in the past. The issue of banditry in Katsina State, Zamfara, Kaduna, was not in these states before now. The issue of conflicts between herdsmen and farmers which is happening in the North Central of this country, and some States like Adamawa, Taraba, thereby killing so many people and destroying a lot of property. This was unknown before. Then came the issue of kidnapping. It has become so notorious that nobody is safe anywhere.  We are not safe in the house, in the streets, work places. It was no like that in the past. We now have the problem of restiveness in the Niger Delta, which PDP government through well-organised productive and positive programmes was able to calm the restiveness. We were able to address this issue through vocational training, educational training, and other people-orientated programmes.  We have been able to make positive impacts on the lives of the people there. Apart from these, there are now house-breaking thefts, among others. As far as security issue is concerned, this government has performed below average. If they are sincere to themselves, they will know that they have performed below average. I don’t blame President Buhari for this. I rather blame those who work for him. They are not assisting him. When you win election and you bring people to work with you, it is expected that this people will be honest, transparent, add value to your government. What is happening today is that all the people Buhari has brought to assist him in this government are not helping him. At the end of the day, the buck still stops at his table. I sympathise with Buhari. This is the reason why  Buhari should have done cabinet re-shuffle long time before now to inject new blood into his government. Members of his Federal Executive Council, Service Chiefs, and others working for him, have failed him. Ultimately, who is Nigerians going to hold responsible? It is the person that they gave mandate to. That is Mr. President.
When you look at his war against corruption, it is neither here or there. It is because this war against corruption is more like a witch-hunt of the members of the opposition parties. You steal money even with empirical evidence, you move to APC or you are a member of APC, you become a saint. People tried to persuade you to come to APC, and you refused, tomorrow, they will start to witch-hunt you. The person is tried on the pages of newspapers and you are vilified, demystified and labeled as a looter. All these things that APC is doing to the leaders of APC, Nigerians are watching. There will be judgment of posterity and Nigerians are not fools. Nigerians have started to realise that the fight against corruption is nothing but a witch-hunt of PDP leaders. Arrest anybody you could, convict them on the pages of newspapers, and this will not affect the fortunes of PDP as far as 2019 elections are concerned. Indeed, Nigerians are resolute in the fact that they know what APC is doing. Certainly, Nigerians are not deceived by this deceit that APC is doing in the name of fighting corruption. When PDP was in power, a lot of PDP functionaries who were found to have engaged in corruption, were not only investigated but arraigned in court. No single APC member from May 29th, 2015 to date has either been investigated or arraigned before the court. Is it how to fight war against corruption? The President had sworn to the Constitution that he was going to do justice to all the people. We will ask Nigerians to judge the performance of APC led government.

This brings us to your recent declaration to vie for the office of the President in the forthcoming 2019 elections. What do you intend to do differently if elected as the President of Nigeria?
Yes, when I went for consultation with my constituency in Kebbi State, I told reporters my intention. After my extensive consultations with my party men and constituency, I told them the call on me to aspire to become the president of Nigeria. After incisive, exhaustive and broad-wide consultations, the Party has supported that I should go into the race.
Now what I am going to do differently is that I am going to bring in a lot of dynamism in government, which is lacking in government now. I will bring in integrity and credibility in government. Because a lot of people will talk and they don’t mean what they say. The citizenry has lost confidence in government officials. When I come in, I am going to bring in a lot of knowledge and experience. This is necessary. Some of us have been there before; some of us are well experienced. We know what PDP government did that many Nigerians were happy with the government. We are going to do more. We made some mistakes because we are humans. They were honest mistakes we made. We are not ashamed that we made mistakes because we are human beings. Beyond this, the first thing any serious leader will do is to re-kindle the hope of Nigerians to believe in themselves as they believe in this federation called Nigeria. Nigerians are getting to a situation that they have lost hope in everything. We must re-kindle the hope to live together as a people. New rising faith and patriotism must be built. The first thing I will do is to ensure that there is security. Without security, farmers cannot cultivate their land. People cannot go to their offices or transact their businesses. Without security, investors will not invest in the country. That is why today, a lot of investors have left the shores of this country.

We will look at the issue of critical infrastructure. Most of the infrastructure that PDP had built was not sustained by this administration. Infrastructure we have today is either decayed or is decaying. It is not functional enough to meet the needs of Nigerians. That is why we have challenges today. Roads that were constructed by PDP government, healthcare facilities have decayed. Go and look at their conditions. Look at our educational sector, and every sector, you will see a lot of problems. So for me, anybody who wants to be the president of Nigeria must be willing to start from a scratch. That is the level that APC government has taken us to. The level of injury and harm that APC has succeeded in inflicting on Nigerians is deep.
As a member of PDP Board of Trustees, do you envisage a situation that nPDP members will return back to PDP, in view of their present complaints of marginalisation and discrimination in the APC government?
I will not be surprised, if the members of the nPDP come back to PDP. These were members of PDP family. Times will arise as a result of small family disagreements that people may decide to go their separate ways. But family will always be family. This happened especially when members of the PDP who left to go into that contraption, they were first witch-hunted.  They were used and dumped. Those who left, they were in government in PDP full of action, delivery of services, but they have found themselves in a place where there is chronic inaction, lack of service delivery. So, it is a situation that they are not used to. They will have to leave and get a place that will be conducive for them. APC certainly is not the same with PDP, you cannot compare the two. If you look at the level of in-fighting going on in APC, it is so disgusting. Never in the history of Nigeria and governance in the country, have we witnessed how people have been divided against themselves. Government that is supposed to have majority both in the legislature and executive, is still fighting itself. It has not completed any single project worthwhile for Nigerians to have invested their hope, support and time. Nothing! I can’t image how President’s advisers would allow him to travel all the way to other States just for him to commission a borehole. I can’t also imagine how President’s advisers and handlers would allow him to go to a state to commission wheelbarrows, called “amalanke” in Hausa language. That is why I am saying Buhari’s handlers are not helping him. Yes, he believes in them. They are not helping his government. They are only helping themselves. At the end of the day, the buck stops at his table. That is why majority of Nigerians are holding him responsible because the buck stops at his table.

Saraki, Dogara’s Absence Stalls 2018 Budget Signing

Obinna Chima
The signing of the 2018 Appropriation Bill by President Muhammadu Buhari, which was expected to hold Wednesday could not because of the absence of Senate President Bukola Saraki and Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Yakubu Dogara, who were out of the country, a presidency source has told THISDAY.
THISDAY had reported on Monday that the money bill would be signedWednesday.

But the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Mr. Femi Adesina, told State House correspondents after the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting that the bill would be signed next week.
However, a THISDAY source said the presidential assent would be on Tuesday, while the budget analysis has now been fixed for Wednesday.
Although there is no legal requirement for the leadership of the federal legislature to be present at the signing ceremony, the convention is that both leaders of the two arms of the National Assembly as well as Ministers of Finance and Budget and National Planning, as well as some other cabinet members witness the signing of the Appropriation Bill into law.
“The signing of the budget was postponed because the Senate President and Speaker are not in the country. We expect them to be back before next week Monday and by Tuesday the budget would be signed and by next week Wednesday we would have the budget analysis,” the source explained.
Saying the THISDAY report was not necessarily wrong, the source explained that the decision to stop the presidential assent ceremony was taken late Monday night because both Saraki and Dogara that were expected back in the country could not make it.
While the Senate president is in Saudi Arabia for the lesser Hajj, the Speaker is in London for an executive leadership course at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE).
The president had last November laid the 2018 Appropriation Bill before a joint session of the National Assembly. However, it was not until May 16 (six months after), that the federal legislature passed the bill. Afterward, it took them another 10 days to transmit it to the president. But the president also dithered in appending his signature.
The THISDAY source had explained the delay in the presidential assent, saying the president had a window to go through the fiscal document before signing, noting that the president has not yet exhausted the window.
However, he disclosed that barring any last-minute change of plan, he was confident the president would assent to the budget Wednesday at the State House.
If the president had assented to the 2018 Appropriation Bill Tuesday (June 12, 2018), it would have amounted to a repeat of the 2017 Budget, which was also signed by the then acting President (now Vice President), Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, on June 12, 2017 after it was passed by the National Assembly on May 5, 2017.
Buhari had laid a proposal for N8.6 trillion but the federal legislators had increased it to N9.1 trillion, an additional N508 billion, they explained was applied to critical sectors of the economy, including the reduction of the budget deficit, security, health and power, works and housing.
The increment had triggered fears that the executive might decline assent, replaying the altercation over the 2017 budget.

Profit Taking Takes Toll On Exchange As Indices Dip By N49 Billion
User Avatar Forum: Business/Investment

Transactions on the equities sector of the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) reversed the upward trend to close on a downturn yesterday, following price depreciation suffered by major highly capitalised stocks, causing market capitalisation to dip by N49 billion.

Specifically, at the close of transactions yesterday, , the All-Share Index (ASI) shed 135.32 absolute points or 0.35 per cent to close at 39,031.72 points. Also, the market capitalisation declined by N49 billion to close at N14.139 trillion.

The depreciation was impacted by losses recorded in medium and large capitalised stocks, amongst which are; Nigerian Breweries, Dangote Sugar, Zenith Bank, FBN Holdings and UBA.

Analysts attributed the drop in indices to profit taking by investors on the exchange. According to them, investors leveraged the price appreciation recorded in the past few days to recoup their investment.

Despite the decline, they reiterated that stock prices remain attractive, making room for bargain hunting in value stocks, amidst still-positive macro-economic fundamentals.

Further breakdown of yesterday’s trading showed that market breadth closed negative, with 20 gainers versus 22 losers. Japaul Oil recorded the highest price gain of 5.88 per cent, to close at 36 kobo per share. UAC Property followed with a gain of 4.98 per cent to close at N2.11, while Prestige Assurance rose by 4.92 per cent to close at 64 kobo per share.

Learn Africa gained 4.86 per cent to close at N1.51, while Equity Assurance appreciated 4.55 per cent to close at 23 kobo per share.

On the other hand, Diamond Bank led the losers’ chart by five per cent, to close at N1.52 per share. AIICO Insurance shed 4.62 per cent to close at 62 kobo, while Unity Bank depreciated by 4.35 per cent to close at 88 kobo per share.

Skye Bank declined by 3.95 per cent to close at 73 kobo and United Capital also shed 3.95 per cent to close at N3.16 per share.

However, the total volume traded appreciated by 33.68 per cent to 456.49 million shares, worth N4.13 billion, and traded in 3,517 deals. Transactions in the shares of UBA topped the activity chart with 90.62 million shares valued at N998.23 million. United Capital followed with 78.69 million shares worth N258.35 million, while Africa Prudential traded 72.1 million shares valued at N312.6 million.

Access Bank traded 26.28 million shares valued at N282.27 million, while African Alliance Insurance transacted 23.3 million shares worth N4.66 million.

Dangote, Flour Mills, NB, Nestlé Push Local Input Sourcing To 66%
User Avatar Forum: Business/Investment
Posted by: Edoman - 06-14-2018, 09:16 AM - No Replies

The results of backward integration projects of Nigerian manufacturers are trending positive, with numbers showing a significant rise in local raw materials sourcing since the second half of 2016.

According to the latest report released by the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN), local input sourcing in the manufacturing sector dived to 65.70 percent in the second half of 2017, from 60.72 percent recorded in the first half period.

In the second half of 2016, the percentage of local sourcing was 59.98 percent as against 46.3 percent recorded in the first half of the same period.

BusinessDay independent checks show that the spike in local sourcing in the second half of 2017 was driven by aggressive activities of Dangote Group, Flour Mills of Nigeria, Nigerian Breweries, Nestlé, Unilever, and FrieslandCampina WAMCO, Dufil Prima, Lafarge Africa, PZ, among others.

“The upward movement was linked to the implementation of resource-based industrialization and backward integration policy as contained in Nigeria’s Industrial Revolution Plan (NIRP),” MAN says, in its latest economic review released to BusinessDay.

Resource-based industrialization is the use of locally available resources, such as raw materials, manpower, and natural resources, to grow domestic production. On the other hand, backward integration occurs when a company buys its suppliers or internally produces segments of its supply chain.

According to the report, industries in Kano Bompai and Imo/Abia industrial zones beat those in Lagos, Ogun, and others in local raw materials sourcing within the period under review.

Imo/Abia zone recorded 73.6 percent as against 51.7 percent in the corresponding half of 2016. Similarly, Kano Bompai’s local input preference was 75.5 percent, while Ogun zone stood at 68.7 percent as against 68 percent recorded in the corresponding period of 2016.

Apapa gave a good showing, recording 70.7 percent in the period as against 54 percent reported in the corresponding half of 2016. Local raw-materials utilization increased in Ikeja zones in the review period rose to 63.2 percent as against 61.3 percent in the corresponding half of 2016. However, Apapa’s and Ikeja’s are still lower than Kano Bompai’s and Imo/Abia’s.

Harangued by foreign exchange crisis of 2016, manufacturers are now getting their raw materials from farmers and subsidiaries, while sourcing packaging materials from other local firms.

The personal care manufacturer Unilever Nigeria is aggressively pushing its local input sourcing towards 100 percent.

“Unilever has achieved over 90 percent in local sourcing of packaging materials. The aim is to achieve 100 percent by the end of 2019 and overcome the current challenges of local vendor’s capacity to meet up with global best standard,” Thomas Mwanza, procurement director, Unilever West Africa, at Manufacturing and Equipment, Nigerian Raw Materials Expo held in Lagos recently.

“In the agro-allied sector, Unilever is partnering with intermediary companies, for the supply of cassava and starch,” Mwanza he said.

Nestlé Nigeria is sourcing 80 percent of its maize, sorghum, millet, soya, cassava starch, cocoa powder, palm oil from more than 41, 600 local farmers and processors scattered across the country.

“The Industry has huge needs and we must help farmers improve their yields to meet them. To achieve real success with connecting farmers to industry, a 360-degree approach which will include the aggregators, processors, and logistics suppliers must be considered within this value chain,” said Mauricio Alarcon, CEO of Nestlé Nigeria Plc.

Dangote Cement is sourcing over 80 percent of its limestone and gypsum locally, while Dufil, makers of Indomie noodles, sources its palm oil and maize domestically.

Flour Mills sources palm oil from its subsidiary Agri Palm Limited at Ugbogui and Iguiye near Benin City in Edo State.

Dairy maker FrieslandCampina WAMCO is sourcing some of its raw milk from farmers in communities in Oyo State.

As of 2017, over 70 farming communities, including 962 women, supply raw milk to FrieslandCampina WAMCO on a daily basis, BusinessDay found.

“The capacity the company has there is even more than what I can supply. Things have dramatically changed for us dairy farmers,” Mayosore Olatunde Rafiu, CEO of Genius Integrated Farms, one of the milk suppliers in Iseyin, told BusinessDay.

Nigerian Breweries is already substituting barley for sorghum sourced locally from an agriculture-based firm called Psaltery Nigeria Limited.

More than 250,000 farmers spread across several agronomic zones in the North are directly or indirectly involved planting sorghum for the country’s biggest brewer, BusinessDay understands.

Afdb Plans $120 Million To Boost Cassava Production
User Avatar Forum: Business/Investment
Posted by: Edoman - 06-14-2018, 09:14 AM - No Replies

The African Development Bank (AfDB) has disclosed plans to invest $120 million within the next three years to boost productivity and transform cassava and eight other commodities in Africa.

The nine commodities include: cassava, rice, maize, sorghum/millet, wheat, livestock, aquaculture, high iron beans and orange fleshed sweet potatoes.

The Director for Agriculture at AfDB, Dr Martin Fregene disclosed this at the fourth International conference on cassava, being organized by the Global Cassava Partnerships for the 21st Century, GCP21, in Cotonou, Republic of Benin.

He stated that transforming cassava on the African continent would help African nations to cut imports and redirect about $1.2bn into African domestic economies.

A statement made available to journalists by the IITA Communication Specialist Godwin Atser disclosed that the cassava conference was attended by more than 450 local international partners in the cassava sector, coming from research and development organizations, government, farming community, and the private sector.

The bank’s investment in cassava is coming at a time when African governments are scaling up efforts to end food imports and create wealth.

Dr Fregene said cassava was a strategic crop for Africa’s food security and wealth creation for youth and women, adding that “another dimension to the importance of cassava is in nutrition where cassava can enhance the nutrition of children directly or as feed for poultry and other livestock.”

He added that with the largest volume of cassava coming from Africa, cassava supports more than 350 million people in Africa.

The Minister of Agriculture Republic of Benin, Dr Gaston Dossouhoui said cassava remained the cheapest staple consumed by Africans, adding that “addressing the constraints of cassava production in Africa will have a positive impact on African farmers.”

He lauded the President of the African Development Bank, Dr Akin Adesina for his commitment of investing in agriculture and cassava, in particular.

The minister also commended the GCP21 for organizing the fourth International Conference on cassava, emphasizing that it would contribute to knowledge sharing that would help in removing the bottlenecks in the cassava sector.

Dr Kenton Dashiell, Deputy Director General for Partnerships for Delivery at the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA), said unlocking the potential of cassava required partnerships and close collaboration of partners to address the constraints facing cassava.

Dr Dashiell commended GCP21 for filling the gaps in cassava R&[Image: grin.png] by organizing a series of conferences with experts sharing knowledge on innovations in cassava.

RHAPSODY OF REALITIES

THURSDAY, 14TH JUNE.

“PROPHESY TO THE WIND”.

…Prophesy upon these bones, and say unto them, O ye dry bones, hear the word of the LORD. Thus saith the Lord GOD unto these bones; Behold, I will cause breath to enter into you, and ye shall live (Ezekiel 37:1-5).

Are you aware that you can change hopeless situations and effect positive changes in your life through the creative power of God’s Word in your mouth? You can change anything through the gift of prophecy. To prophesy means to speak words of divine revelation and potency: words that have, and give life.

In our opening scripture, Ezekiel found himself in a valley full of dry bones, and the Lord asked him, “Can these bones live?” Ezekiel’s response was, “Lord, you alone can tell”; it was a hopeless situation. Nevertheless, God said to Ezekiel, “Prophesy to these bones”; He needed Ezekiel’s cooperation.

Now, here’s the interesting thing: the first thing God said would happen to the bones following Ezekiel’s prophecy was that He would cause breath to enter into them. But read what happened: “So I prophesied as I was commanded: and…when I beheld, lo, the sinews and the flesh came up upon them, and the skin covered them above: BUT THERE WAS NO BREATH IN THEM” (Ezekiel 37:7-8).

Ezekiel prophesied as he was commanded, but the very first thing God said would happen to the bones didn’t happen; there was no breath in them. He brought this to God’s attention and God said to him, “…Prophesy unto the wind, prophesy, son of man…” (Ezekiel 37:9).
Notice the difference this time: he was to prophesy to the wind, not the bones now. When he did, the Bible says, “…breath came into them, and they lived, and stood up upon their feet, an exceeding great army” (Ezekiel 37:10). This is as profound as it is instructive.

Sometimes, a word of prophecy comes to us, and we’re waiting for it to be fulfilled, and it doesn’t; so we think the prophecy was false. But we never asked the Lord what next to do as Ezekiel did. Ask the Holy Spirit the next step to take; the specific words to speak now. He’s our Instructor; He leads and guides us. He’ll show you what to do, and tell you what to say. Maybe you need to “Prophesy to the wind” too. Hallelujah!

PRAYER

Righteous Father, you have set me over the nations and over the kingdoms, to proclaim your goodness and declare your faithfulness to the ends of the earth. Your righteousness is established in the nations, and the Gospel of Christ prevails and is glorified in all the earth, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.

FURTHER STUDY:

Romans 10:6-8 But the righteousness which is of faith speaketh on this wise, Say not in thine heart, Who shall ascend into heaven? (that is, to bring Christ down [from above]Smile 7 Or, Who shall descend into the deep? (that is, to bring up Christ again from the dead.) 8 But what saith it? The word is nigh thee, [even] in thy mouth, and in thy heart: that is, the word of faith, which we preach;

Romans 12:6 Having then gifts differing according to the grace that is given to us, whether prophecy, [let us prophesy] according to the proportion of faith;
Hebrews 13:5-6 [Let your] conversation [be] without covetousness; [and be] content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee. 6 So that we may boldly say, The Lord [is] my helper, and I will not fear what man shall do unto me.

Tinubu: Why Buhari Deserves A Second Term
By Obayemi Rachael -June 13, 2018

BOLA Tinubu, a Chieftain of the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC), has opined why President Muhammadu Buhari deserves a second term in office.

Mr Tinubu said Mr Buhari should be re-elected because he has kept his key campaign promises to Nigerians.

Delivering his address at the official conferment ceremony of the award of the Grand Commander of the Order of the Federal Republic (GCFR) on the late MKO Abiola on Tuesday, the APC chieftain said the president should be given another chance to do more.

“Farewell to poverty, it’s not a question of a second term – you deserve it. We’re going to work for it, no annulment of it, we are going to win with you,” Tinubu said while describing the president’s bid for re-election as a struggle to expel poverty not only in Nigeria but in Africa as a whole.

“It’s the struggle of Africa to banish poverty. You are investing in education; which is the greatest weapon against poverty, you’re feeding our children, we are no longer paying for darkness and we are able to feed ourselves, not importing toothpicks anymore, thank you Mr President,” he added.

On the honour given to Abiola, the former Lagos State Governor said regardless of what people say, the President should remain rest assured that he made a good move and always has his support.

“You made a promise that you will be committed to transparency, rule of law and bring about compliance with the constitutional democracy, you’ve done it now.

“Yes, the authors, writers, columnists will come up with all sorts of analysis about why you did it, yes you did it.

“The creed of the campaign of the man whom you honoured principally, was hope.

“Thank you for bringing hope back to Nigerians,” Tinubu said.

NCAA explains roles in National Carrier establishment; says AOC will takes 90 days
User Avatar Forum: Travel/Aviation
Posted by: Edoman - 06-13-2018, 12:55 PM - No Replies

CONTRARY to fears indicating that the Federal Government is ill-prepared for the take-off of the proposed national carrier in December, the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has said the target is feasible as acquisition of the Aircraft Operators Certificate (AOC) takes only 90 days.

Minister of State, Aviation, Senator Hadi Sirika in a recent media parley stated that December was the date the proposed carrier would commence operations, this generated buzz as the Aviation Round Table (ART) became apprehensive on the constitution of the committee to midwife the airline while other stakeholders expressed reservations on the registration of the airline with the Corporate Affairs Commission as well as acquisition of aircraft and AOC.

With regards the AOC, Director General of NCAA, Capt Usman Mukhar today pointed out that, once an operator is properly guided and is willing to go by the guidelines and process of getting an Aircraft Operators Certificate (AOC), it takes three months approximately.

Usman further stated that, the government has decided to involve the aviation agencies in the task force because they want the national carrier project done well this time around.
He said “the presence of the agencies inside the task force is to ensure that the right things are done, they are not midwifing in the real sense of the national carrier but they are guiding the process to ensure that it is done in line with the international standards and best practices in the area of safety, security and also comfort of the passengers”.

Usman said several airlines came and left, probably because they did not follow the guide given to them, especially now that the civil aviation authority is there first, to promote aviation activities in Nigeria to ensure safety, security and comfort.

Emphasizing further on government’s readiness and the plans put in place to ensure the airline’s stability, the NCAA boss added “this time around, government says we should go and ensure that even before take-off that nothing is short circuited, processes followed so that they can come to stay. The same service we have rendered to every operator that came from the time the operator came at the first phase, coming with the intent that they want to start operating, it is one of the stages in the issuance of the Air Operators Certificate, to the time somebody want to do formal application”.

He equally informed that NCAA also guides operators when it comes to documentation and preparations of the manual which they produce, stressing that if there are errors, corrections, NCAA works to see that everything comes out clean.

“All these we did with all of them to the time they come and demonstrate that they are able to do this and then finally we certify them, we have been doing this, so it is not unusual that you find us in that Task Force”, Usman noted.
He stated that they extend these services to all the operators because they came through the five stages of obtaining an AOC, adding that it is the same process, to all the operators and that there is no special treatment given to any operator.

He however, said that for the national carrier, the government wants to make sure that it is done properly, and also more active his time around.

Usman said as far as the NCAA is concerned, the December target is feasible because the process of obtaining the AOC, the permit and other documentation can take a minimum of 90 days as even average people do it in 6 months.
He pointed out that those who spend up to 6 months are the operations that have issue because before you move from one stage to another, you must satisfy all the necessary requirements.
'
“That is why sometimes the delay is not on the part of the Authority but on the part of the operators. If the operator everything is fine, fine from the operator within 90 days we will be able to give them the certificate to operate. We don’t control other things but as far as we are concerned from our own side it is quite feasible”, Usman said. .

He further added that, although government has put in place a transaction adviser which comprises a consortium of advisers, NCAA will continue to guide them just as the agency has guided other operators to ensure that these things are done properly.

Igwe Stephen Nwatu Killed In Enugu By His Subjects (Photos)

Residents of Ogbovine Akpugo autonomous community in Nkanu West LGA of Enugu State were on Tuesday thrown into shock over the killing of the traditional ruler, Igwe Stephen Nwatu. Nwatu, a retired police officer, died in the early hours of Tuesday, after he was attacked on Monday night by some persons suspected to be his subjects.
Before his death, the traditional ruler was engaged in a running battle with some of his subjects.

The conflict between the traditional ruler and his subjects was said to have started two years ago, but escalated recently when the state government disbursed N5 million each to all the 450 autonomous communities in Enugu State.

Although the cheques for the state government’s ‘One Community, One Project’ scheme were handed over to traditional rulers, Igwe Nwatu was said to have been denied the cheque for his community, following the conflict between him and his subjects.

Nwatu reportedly walked out on the Chief of Staff to the governor, Mr. Festus Uzor and other state government officials in anger.
It was gathered that the state government invited the traditional ruler and his aggrieved subjects to a peace meeting on Monday night, but before the meeting could hold, a fight broke out in the community.

In the ensuing milieu, the traditional ruler was said to have been severely beaten up by his subjects.

He died in a hospital in the early hours of Tuesday as a result of injuries he sustained from the beating.

Oshiomhole: If I Were Buhari, I’ll Jail Obasanjo
User Avatar Forum: Politics
Posted by: Edoman - 06-13-2018, 10:07 AM - No Replies

Former Edo State Governor, Adams Oshiomole, has said he would have arrested and prosecuted former President Olusegun Obasanjo if he were President Muhammadu Buhari.

This is coming as the former Edo State governor received more endorsements from the national leader of the party, Bola Tinubu, as well as governors elected on the platform of the party ahead of the national convention of the party.

Oshiomhole, who weighed in over the faceoff between President Buhari and Obasanjo, urged Buhari to investigate and jail the former president, should he be found to have dipped his hands in public treasury.

Speaking at the event in honour of late Chief MKO Abiola’s family chaired by Femi Falana, Oshiomhole also praised Chief Frank Kokori for standing up to dictatorship when it mattered most.

“He should be arrested if he has committed any offence. He arrested many of us. So, if we are celebrating Chief Gani Fawehinmi, we have compelling reasons to do so. In all of these, we didn’t pay any money to Gani or Falana. They defended us pro bono.

“Gani is not here today, but his spirit is here. Falana is here and today, I am standing. Even the president who was in charge then, he is now complaining that they want to harass him. He was harassing me and he got me arrested.

“He thought he himself would not be arrested? If I were the president I would arrest him. We are all Nigerians. I remember one day I told him, I said ‘President Obasanjo, we made you president. You did not make me a Nigerian.

“’You are our creation; I am not your creation. You must listen’. But he thought he would be in power forever and he tried to take us on the way to Zimbabwe. He was a reluctant Head of State, became president for two terms and he wanted to do a third term because a cockroach licking palm oil would never lick enough.”
Oshiomhole added that when he was accused by Obasanjo of behaving as if I was an alternate president; and he was running the NLC like a parallel government that wanted to overthrow his government.

The former governor further stated: “The late Abiola would be smiling not just for the honour done him by the president, but that Frank Kokori who was very young then, deployed the instrumentality of oil workers to support the progressive mission of the civil society.
He said: “It is not the position you occupy but the role that you play that will define your place in history. This man was never an NLC president but he is the only unionist invited to the investiture.

“So, we just consulted among ourselves, few of us who benefited from Gani’s leadership by using the instrument of the law to confront evil leaders…at the NLC, we were so efficient at causing troubles but too poor to procure the services of legal titans like Gani and Falana but who would always come and defend us pro bono. So, we felt that on the eve of his investiture, we should gather and celebrate him.”

In another development, Oshiomhole has received more endorsements from Tinubu, as well as governors elected on the platform of the party.
Speaking to journalists shortly after he led other governors on solidarity visit to the Oshiomhole Campaign Office at Aso Drive, Asokoro in Abuja, Tinubu said: “My presence here symbolises solidarity and unity of purpose to continue to build a progressive party that will carry Nigeria on in a progressive manner and encourage good governance with courage and commitment.

“There is no doubt that I have endorsed his candidacy. I have worked with him, should I have any doubt?”
On whether he feels he can work well with Oshiomole, Tinubu said: “Yes, I can work with him, I have no doubt.”
When asked if the endorsements Oshiomole was getting from key party leaders will not discourage other contestants and make the convention exercise more like a rubber stamp, Tinubu said democracy is all about winning.

“In politics, you seek to win. Have you seen anyone who wants to lose? It is about wining, it is about choice and we just have to accept that,” he said.
Tinubu was also asked to react to the outcome of the recent APC congresses, especially as it relates to the parallel congress in Lagos State, but he dismissed the parallel state executive led by Foud Oki, describing it as a non-issue.

“Anybody can open a bank branch anywhere but it depends whether its ATM card can work,” he said.
Kebbi State Governor, Alhaji Atiku Bagudu, who spoke on the mission of the governors to the campaign office, said they were all queuing behind the former Edo State governor to emerge as the next national chairman.

“I believe all of us are in support of Oshiomhole. All our colleagues are happy with this development. Our party is looking forward to the chairmanship of Oshiomhole.
“He has had experiences in various aspects of national life and we are all confident that the party is a structure that is necessary for the continuous evolution and maintenance of democracy and his collective experiences in the recent past as the governor of Edo State, one of the most successful leaders of trade union movement and a democratic activist all his life; these qualities would be brought to bear in achieving the ideals of the APC,” he said.

The governor believed that Oshiomhole will be a leader who will be the embodiment of the spirit of the party, saying the experiences will help him make the party central to governance.

Police Uncover Illegal Blood Bank In Lagos, Arrest Suspect - Photo

A man identified as Paul Achegbulu has been arrested by the Lagos State Police Command for running an illegal blood bank in the Bariga area of the state.

Achegbulu was arrested by a team led by Police Commissioner Imohimi Edgal Tuesday after detectives got information that the suspect was draining blood from children in his one-room apartment and selling same to some clinics.

It was gathered that the police team recovered seven pints of blood from his 18, Kusa Bus Stop, Bariga residence.

According to residents, trouble started for the suspect on June 10, after he drew two pints of blood from a 17-year-old boy, Ayomide Adesanya, which made the victim to pass out.
He was said to have also drawn two pints from the same victim on June 4, and on each day, he gave the victim N2, 000.

Imohimi, who also visited Adesanya at the hospital he was admitted after he passed out, told reporters that the suspect lured underage children with the N2, 000 offer, while he confessed that he sold the blood for N7, 000.

He said:

“Adesanya became weak after donating four pints of blood. He collapsed and is currently receiving treatment at the Bariga Hospital.

“The mother told us that the daughter’s friend informed them of Adesanya’s condition after she saw him on a bike.”

But the suspect said he did not know Adesanya was underage, adding that the victim told him he was 20-year-old.

“It was when his parents came to confront me that I knew he was 17. He told me he was 20. I am a lab scientist. I was trained five years ago at Nigerian Institute of Laboratory Science Technology.

“Lab technicians from hospitals used to come and buy blood from me. I used to sell the blood through my assistant, Alfa. He’s the one who knows the hospitals he sold to. I do not know where he is at the moment.”

Brain drain 2.0: Nigeria’s best doctors are leaving

[Image: Untitled-design24-1.png]Photo Credit: Nigerian Medical Association (NMA)

Less than 24 hours after BusinessDay reported the number of Nigerian trained medical doctors working in the UK, the number increased by one when BusinessDay checked again yesterday bringing Nigerian doctors practicing in the country to 5,340, according to data from the UK General Medical Council website.
An average of 12 doctors who had their primary medical education in Nigeria are said to register for practice in the UK every week, and when Nigerian trained medical personnel in other places such as the US, Canada, and some oil rich gulf countries are added, the total number of Nigerian doctors practicing abroad could be in excess of 20,000.
BusinessDay correspondents visited some public and private hospitals within Lagos, to interact with doctors and with the exception of only one doctor with a contrary view, all expressed willingness to go abroad at the first chance they get.
The only doctor (practising in LASUTH) who said he’s not eager to go abroad, said this is because he has some other personal businesses he is engaged in.
For the majority however, the perception is that “leaving the country to practice abroad gives you the opportunity of being exposed to recent technological advancements in the medical health sector, and an opportunity to for instance, conduct surgeries with more effectiveness (for patients) and ease (for the doctors).”
Others expressed more personal reasons like the need to get the best education for their children, since they cannot afford the huge cost of sending their children to private schools considering the poor state of the public schools’ system.
“Our best doctors are leaving Nigeria. Over 50 doctors left LUTH (Lagos University Teaching Hospital) this year,” a senior medical practitioner told BusinessDay.
Kelechi Otuneme, public relations officer at LUTH, however said while he could not confirm the number of doctors who have left, more importantly, it cannot be established that they left the country entirely.
The unfriendly work environment has implied health workers in Nigeria continually find every possible way to exit the country, leaving behind a health system which many in the mildest of descriptions, say is simply not working; not for the patients and not for the medical practitioners.
“We are having a second wave of brain drain of medical professionals in the country. Interestingly, those who participated in the first wave of brain drain of medical professionals in the early 90’s want to come back now that they are older. But the conditions back home are not encouraging them to come back with the skills and experience they have acquired from their years of staying abroad,” said another senior medical practitioner who operates a hospital where he says three of his doctors have already relocated abroad in the last one year.
In 1948 when the university college hospital Ibadan was set up, up till the 1970s, it ranked among the top four in the commonwealth, but now it is not even rated, BusinessDay findings show.
But as doctors, nurses, and other health workers leave the country in droves, even the medical schools that are supposed to train doctors to replace those leaving are also suffering.  Some of the country’s best hands in the medical schools are also finding their way out of the country, with the quality of medical education gradually eroding away.
Informed sources in the health sector told BusinessDay that the quality of medical education has depreciated, almost as much as medical facilities in the country. It was even stated that at some point some medical schools were threatened with decertification of some courses, and of note were the Surgery and Dentistry programmes at the College of Medicine, University of Lagos (CMUL).
“The quality of medical education in the country has dropped significantly,” said Ogbonnaya Igbowke, head, Health Thematic Group, human capital policy commission, Nigeria Economic Summit Group (NESG) “A lot of what is done today is more of theory and less of practical, and the reasons are not far-fetched. There is indeed lack of materials, equipment and research grants or funds to boost learning outcomes in medicine and medical health sciences.”
“We are in a deep problem to say the least. Most doctors have never seen physically, most of the machines that they are required to use in the course of their practice and they have been in practice for a long time,” said Igbokwe, who is also CEO of Heartwells Group.
The President, Association of Resident Doctors in one of the tertiary health facilities who did not want his name in print, told BusinessDay there are “universities that are losing accreditation because of basic things to train medical personnel. If these things are not available, why would I as a lecturer want to train students that I am sure cannot boast of being compared to others in other parts of the world?
“A lot of good brains, people who are distinction candidates, who should have stayed back to impact knowledge are no longer in the country but abroad because of the same set of reasons that we have. Even teaching aid to teach medical students are not available in a lot of our universities,” he said.
Besides poor equipment, most medical schools have been accused of taking in more students than they can cater for adequately.
“We have medical schools admitting 150 students when they have capacity to take in just 20-50 students. Some students have told us, they do not do much of practical but ‘theory of practical.’  They are asked to describe a practical procedure, instead of actually carrying out the procedure,” a senior medical practitioner told BusinessDay.
When BusinessDay contacted Oladejo Azeez, the College Secretary and Head of Administration, CMUL, to confirm if the school has been threatened with decertification, he declined to comment.
But BusinessDay also learnt from some practicing doctors that even internship positions have become scarce for trained doctors when they leave medical school.
Some of them have to wait between one to two years to get an opportunity to do internship, further putting the quality of their learning at risk. It is understood that poor funding means that most public hospitals do not want to take on new interns until they are sure they have the money to pay them. But in the process, they end up making this medical graduates stay idle waiting for internship positions.
But sources say that because of the risk of not getting internship positions, most medical graduates have started writing foreign medical examinations from their 500 level, hoping they can pass the exams and leave the country.
The result is that the falling standards of medical practice in Nigeria, has become the gain of other countries, and it is unlikely when the trend will come to a halt.
“If we continue like this, our health system, in a few years will not remain the same because there will be reduction in the quality of graduates that we have, (owing to) a reduction in the transfer of skills and knowledge among medical practitioners.”
Francis Faduyile, president, Nigerian Medical Association, explained in an interview, that medical schools are confronted with a lot of challenges, mostly due to inadequate funding, whereas even the little available is not properly spent.
Faduyile also confirmed that when many of the specialists conclude their training, it is easier for them to sit for one or two foreign qualifying exams, then leave the country for foreign destinations where he says “they do very well”.
Whereas, the same people could be “roaming around for up to five years looking for internship placement, if they choose to stay in the country.”
“These are challenges faced in terms of capacity to produce the right quality of medical personnel,” Faduyile explained.

APC Chairmanship: 7 Governors, Tinubu, Akande Endorse Oshiomhole
User Avatar Forum: Politics
Posted by: Edoman - 06-13-2018, 09:56 AM - No Replies

Quote:Seven governors of the ruling APC, the National Leader of the party, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the first Interim National Chairman of the party, Chief Bisi Akande yesterday paid solidarity visit to the campaign office of Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, the leading national chairmanship aspirant.

The governors who were led by Oshiomhole to inspect the campaign office included Atiku Bagudu, Kebbi; Ibikunle Amosun, Ogun; Rotimi Akeredolu, Ondo; Umar Ganduje, Kano; Tanko Al-Makura, Nasarawa; Simon Lalong, Plateau; and Yahaya Bello of Kogi State.

Bagudu who spoke at a separate interview with journalists said all the governors were happy with the national chairmanship aspiration of the former governor of Edo State.

He said Oshiomhole’s experience as a former governor, trade union leader, and democratic activist were qualities that stood him out as an aspirant that could help in realising the ideals of the APC.

Ganduje said his presence was an indication that Oshiomhole would get the votes of all delegates from Kano State, stating that “numerically, it seems he is winning the election before the election.”

Akeredolu said there was clear indication that there wouldn’t be any contest for the position of APC national chairman.

Tinubu, who fielded questions from journalists in company of governors of Kogi, Nasarawa, Plateau as well as Chief Akande, said his visit symbolised solidarity and unity of purpose to continue to build a progressive party that would carry Nigeria in a progressive manner.

On the on-going reconciliation job, Tinubu said, “We are reconciling. My being here is part of reconciliation. What is politics if not conflicts upon conflicts and solution?”

Asked to give the update about the reconciliation of parallel congresses in Lagos State, the APC national leader said, “No, no, no. Don’t be ridiculous now? Haba! Lagos. Anybody can get a branch of bank anywhere. It depends whether your ATM card will work.”

CBN boosts wholesale forex market with $210m
[email=<img width=] [/email]

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) on Tuesday injected a total of $210 million, to meet customers’ demand for foreign exchange in the wholesale segment of the market.
The apex Bank in its desire to enhance liquidity and meet customers’ needs offered $100 million to authorized dealers in the wholesale segment of the market, while the Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) segment got the sum of $55 million.
According to figures obtained from the Bank on Tuesday, June 12, 2018, customers needing foreign exchange for invisibles such as tuition fees, medical payments and Basic Travel Allowance (BTA), among others, were also allocated the sum of $55 million.
Consequently, the nation’s currency continued its stability, exchanging at an average of N362/$1 in the BDC segment on Tuesday, June 12, 2018.
However, naira depreciated on Tuesday to N361.30k per dollar, losing 0.12 percent compared to N360.87/$ traded the previous day at the investors and exporters forex window, data from FMDQ indicated.
The local currency also weakened at the Nigerian Autonomous Foreign Exchange Fixing (NAFEX), by 0.16 percent to N361.57 per dollar on Tuesday from N361.01k/$ on Monday. At the CBN’s official window, naira traded the same, closing at the rate of N305.90/$.
It will be recalled that last week, CBN approved an upward review of the trading margin available to operators of Bureau De Change (BDC) in the country, allowing BDC operators could buy the United States dollar from the CBN at the rate of N357/$1 and sell at N360, thereby leaving them with a positive margin of N3.00 per dollar sold.
Meanwhile, the Acting Director, Corporate Communications Department (CCD), Isaac Okorafor, reiterated the Bank’s commitment to continue to intervene in the interbank foreign exchange market, in line with its pledge to sustain liquidity in the market and maintain stability. Okorafor reiterated that the CBN would sustain its strategic management of forex, with a view to reducing the country’s import bills and halting depletion of its foreign reserves.
The Bank last Monday, June 4, 2018, intervened to the tune of $210 million to cater for requests in the wholesale segment of the market.

Investors now taking notice of Nigeria’s latest currency plan

Investors now taking notice of Nigeria’s latest currency plan
[Image: naira.jpg]
Foreign investors are warming to the foreign-exchange window that Nigeria opened last week to ease a severe shortage of dollars, according to the head of the trading platform overseeing it.

The naira’s depreciation in the window to almost the same level as the black-market rate means the new market is already “nearing equilibrium,” according to Bola Onadele, the chief executive officer of Lagos-based FMDQ OTC Securities Exchange.

The central bank is ready to supply dollars to bond and stock investors, even for trades of as much as $100 million, he said.
“There’s already been interest from portfolio investors because they can see that the new window will have buyers and sellers determining the rate,” Onadele said in an emailed response to questions on May 1. “The banks are talking to portfolio investors. Volumes will build up.”
The so-called Investors’ and Exporters’ FX Window, which started on April 24, is the central bank’s latest attempt to lure back investors who fled in the past two years, exacerbating a crisis that caused Nigeria’s economy to shrink in 2016 for the first time in a quarter century. The idea is that by creating a market for some types of investment transactions, policy makers can satisfy calls to float the currency without risking an inflationary spiral that may come from a devaluation.

The naira opened on Monday at 380.31 per dollar in the window. That’s about 17 percent weaker than the interbank rate of 315 and close to the 390 on the black-market, which many Nigerian businesses were forced to utilize as hard-currency supplies through official channels dried up. Transactions eligible for trading in the window include those for loan repayments, interest payments, capital repatriation and remittances.
While Nigeria last year allowed its currency to weaken on the official interbank market, it stopped short of allowing a free float as the central bank intervened to bolster the naira. Investors, concerned that another devaluation may be on the cards, have stayed on the sidelines: Nigerian stocks have declined 33 percent in dollar terms in the past year, the worst performance globally, according to data compiled by Bloomberg.
Onadele, a former chief trader at Citigroup Inc.’s Nigerian unit who criticized the central bank last October for leaning on dealers not to let the currency fall, said this time around Governor Godwin Emefiele was relaxed about the weaker rate.

“The governor isn’t calling up, worrying about the rate,” Onadele said. “The central bank is ready to sell into this window, via the commercial banks. Any foreign portfolio investor that wants to leave Nigeria will get its money.”
Bond and stock investors should disregard the other exchange rates that now exist in Nigeria, with the central bank charging businesses different prices for foreign-exchange depending on their needs.

“Foreign portfolio investors should ignore the multiple exchange rates,” he said. “This new window is the relevant one that applies to them.”

Morning Devotional For Wednesday 13th June
User Avatar Forum: Daily Devotions

RHAPSODY OF REALITIES

WEDNESDAY, 13TH JUNE.

MAKE WAR WITH WORDS.

Take with you words, and turn to the Lord: say unto him, Take away all iniquity, and receive us graciously: so will we render the calves of our lips (Hosea 14:2).

Being born again, we’re engaged in a spiritual warfare: a fight of faith. Actually, it’s called “the good fight of faith” (1 Timothy 6:12). It’s a good fight because we always win. If a Christian loses in the good fight of faith, then he or she isn’t using the right arsenal; and part of that arsenal is prophecy.

In 1 Timothy 1:18, the Apostle Paul, by the Spirit, gave an important charge to Timothy, and by extension the rest of us, saying, “This charge I commit unto thee, son Timothy, according to the prophecies which went before on thee, that thou by them mightest war a good warfare.”

We make war with prophecies. Don’t let the Word of the Lord that has gone forth concerning your finances, health, family, business or career fall to the ground. Use them in your fight of faith. Make war with them. No matter what comes against you; no matter the challenges or crises you face, declare the Word.

It’s time to make war with those prophecies you wrote somewhere in your note or diary. God gave you those words for you to affirm the same in consent. If you don’t say it, it won’t work. “He said; so that we may boldly say...” (Hebrews 13:5-6).

For example, Isaiah 43:2 says, “When thou passest through the waters, I will be with thee; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow thee: when thou walkest through the fire, thou shalt not be burned; neither shall the flame kindle upon thee.” Don’t just read that and be quiet; respond. Declare, “I’m forever protected and fortified against all evil and wickedness in this world. I dwell in the safety and peaceful habitation of the Almighty; a place of glory, dominion and everlasting joy, where I reign and rule with Christ over circumstances.”
In the face of trouble or adversity, make war with words. Affirm your victory. Hallelujah!

PRAYER

Dear heavenly Father, I thank you for the Holy Spirit at work in me, and the ability He’s granted me to speak forth words of power. Even now, I declare that I’m functioning in supernatural supply, strength, ability, wisdom and knowledge; I know things by the Holy Ghost, and I’m walking in, and fulfilling my destiny in Christ, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.

FURTHER STUDY:

Ecclesiastes 8:4 Where the word of a king [is, there is] power: and who may say unto him, What doest thou?

1 Timothy 4:14-15 Neglect not the gift that is in thee, which was given thee by prophecy, with the laying on of the hands of the presbytery. 15 Meditate upon these things; give thyself wholly to them; that thy profiting may appear to all.

US Arrests 74 In Global Email Scam Crack Down - BBC
User Avatar Forum: Crime
Posted by: Edoman - 06-12-2018, 07:56 PM - No Replies

The US has arrested 74 people including nearly 30 in Nigeria, as part of an effort to combat email scam artists.

It said the arrests reflect a coordinated crackdown on people who convince correspondents to wire them money for fraudulent activities.

The US said such scams are "prevalent" and pledged to pursue perpetrators "regardless of where they are located".

Authorities said they have seized, recovered or disrupted more than $16m (£12m) since January.

The effort, which involved local and federal law enforcement agencies, targeted scammers who trick people into transferring them money, for example by impersonating a business partner or colleague.

In one case, the US alleged that two Nigerians living in Dallas posed as a property seller when requesting a $246,000 wire transfer from a real estate attorney.

Authorities also went after "money mules" - "witting or unwitting accomplices" who receive the money from the victims and transfer it as directed by the fraudsters.

'Disrupt and dismantle'

The US said arrests occurred in the US, Nigeria, Canada, Mauritius and Poland.

One man was extradited from the UK in 2016 for his role in a scheme that allegedly sought to take $2.6m. He pleaded guilty in January to wire fraud and identity theft.

FBI Director Christopher Wray, whose agency funded and coordinated the operation, said: "This operation demonstrates the FBI's commitment to disrupt and dismantle criminal enterprises that target American citizens and their businesses."

The FBI said people have reported losing more than $3.7bn since it started tracking the issue through its Internet Crime Complaint Center.

"The devastating effects these cases have on victims and victim companies, affect not only the individual business but also the global economy," the US said.

I saw this on the BBC and thought you should see it:

We reported on Sunday that thirteen persons, including seven members of the same family, died in two separate road accidents in Enugu and Niger states.  In Enugu State, a Toyota Carina  E car with registration no CM 960 FKJ conveying a family and a Toyota Hiace bus with registration number ENU 75YY belonging to a mass transit company collided.

Seven family members and one other person died in a road accident which occurred at Ugwu Onyeama on the Onitsha-Enugu axis yesterday morning. The police spokesman in Enugu State, SP Ebere Amaraizu, confirmed the incident in a statement issued yesterday. He said following the accident, men of the Traffic Division of the Central Police Station Enugu were alerted and they responded promptly.

In Niger State, five people died in the accident along Minna-Suleja road between Lambata/Kwakuti communities, the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) said.  The Sector Commander, Yusuf Garba, said the accident involved a white BMW with registration BWR 264 SR and Scana truck with registration number ISR 16 XU.

He attributed the accident to over speeding and dangerous overtaking; adding motorists should always obey speed limits as prescribed by the law and also install speed devise in their vehicles to check over speeding.

We lied about GTBank, Supreme Court judgment – Innoson admits

Quote:Innoson has today admitted that there was no Supreme Court judgement against GTBank.

After falsely claiming a victory at the Supreme Court of Nigeria, Chairman of Innoson Motors, Dr Innocent Chukwuma has admitted to completely distorting the directive of the Supreme Court and publicly apologized for spreading fake and malicious news.

Innoson had earlier deleted his declaration on social media that the apex court has ordered GTBank to pay him N14bn within 14 days.

This was followed by a statement by his spokesman Cornelius Osigwe in which Innoson walked back from his false declaration stating instead that “There have been a lot of misinterpretations on the Press Release published by Innoson Group on the decision of the Supreme Court”.

This retraction, judicial analysts believe, was advised by Innoson’s lawyers who fear that contempt of court charges on defaming the Supreme Court may be brought against the embattled businessman.

Last week Thursday, Innosoncaused a social and online media storm by falsely claiming that the Supreme Court had ruled in his favour for GTBank to pay him N14bn. However, records of the court proceedings showed no such ruling.

GTBank had also advised the public that Innoson’s claims were “false, mischievous and malicious”.

“There was no directive or Order issued by the Supreme Court of Nigeria to the Bank to make any payment to any of its debtor Customers. We again reiterate that there is no iota of truth in the falsehood being peddled by desperate and mischievous elements and the General Public should disregard same in its entirety,” part of the Bank’s press statement read.

As facts on ground became clear that Innoson’s claim on social media was entirely false, the embattled businessman moved to silently delete the Fake News Tweet from his company’s Twitter Account.

On Monday, June 11, 2018, innoson apologized for misleading the public.

However, Nigerians did not take the company’s lies lightly.

“I cannot believe this, how can someone have total disregard for the highest court in the Land and go on a rampage spreading fake news. This Innoson and his team of lawyers and advisers have no shred of credibility” a Twitter user said.

Another user, whose tweet appears below, lamented that Innoson had fooled Nigerians.

BREAKING: Another Ex-nigerian Governor Joshua Dariye Convicted Of Fraud
User Avatar Forum: Politics
Posted by: Edoman - 06-12-2018, 04:44 PM - No Replies

Few weeks after a former Taraba governor, Jolly Nyame, was jailed 14 years for fraud, the Federal Capital Territory High Court has found former Plateau State governor, Joshua Dariye, guilty of fraud.

Mr Dariye was charged for allegedly diverting N1. 161.9 billion while he served as governor of the North-central state.

He was brought to court on a 23-count charge for the alleged offence by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC in 2007.

Although Mr Dariye’s lawyer, Kanu Agabi, questioned the authenticity of evidence adduced in court against his client, the court said the evidences clearly indicate a case of diversion.

The judge, Adebukola Banjoko, found him guilty of diverting funds to the Peoples Democratic Party in the state among other groups.

Mrs Banjoko who was still reading the judgement at the time of this report found Mr Dariye guilty of counts 1, 2, 4, and 7.

The counts relate to the diversion of N80 million to the PDP, N100 million to a company, Marine flow and other sums through the All State Bank.

The same judge jailed Mr Nyame.

BACKGROUND
Mr Dariye, a serving senator, was first elected governor of the state in 1999 under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party.

He was re-elected in 2003, but later impeached by the state’s house of assembly in November 2006.

Following judgements of the Appeal and Supreme Courts nullifying his impeachment however, Mr Dariye was ordered to complete his tenure in 2007.

The prosecution, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, arraigned the defendant on a 21-count for the alleged offence shortly after the expiration of his tenure in May 2007.

According to the anti-graft agency, Mr Dariye used his office to siphon money out of the country, through various accounts.

Mr Dariye fought a seemingly endless battle to prevent his trial, from the lower court to the Supreme Court.

Ahead of his arraignment in 2007, Mr Dariye challenged the competence of the charges against him, but failed at the trial court.

Subsequently the ex-governor approached the Court of Appeal where he also failed in his attempt to stop the trial.

Mr Dariye who had secured an order for the suspension of his trial at the lower court, also proceeded to the Supreme Court with his appeal. He was, however, made to continue the trial following an order of the apex court in 2015, after stalling the case for over seven years.

The former governor controversially employed the services of a former Attorney General of the federation, Kanu Agabi, who headed Nigeria’s justice ministry when the charge against the defendant was first brought.

He is currently a senator on the platform of Nigeria’s ruling party, APC, to which he decamped in 2016. He was elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party.

The judge, Olasumbo Banjoko, slated Tuesday for judgement after entertaining the final address of counsel.

Fayemi's Thugs Destroy PDP Campaign Billboards - PDP (Photos)
User Avatar Forum: Politics
Posted by: Edoman - 06-12-2018, 01:28 PM - No Replies

Frustrated by very low turn out that marred Fayemi's campaign rally at Ekiti East LG today, and the refusal of the Kabiyesi Olomuo of Omuo Ekiti to receive him at his palace, Fayemi's thugs went on rampage, destroying PDP campaign billboards.

Quote:Ekiti guber: PDP condemns Fayemi over alleged destruction of campaign billboards, posters

The campaign organisation of the Ekiti State deputy governor and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate, Prof Kolapo Olusola, has condemned the wanton destruction of its campaign billboards by thugs supervised by the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, saying: “Only politicians with electoral failure staring them in the face will go about destroying posters and billboards as if that will translate into votes.”

The Kolapo Olusola Campaign Organisation (KOCO), in a statement issued on Monday, by its Director of Media and Publicity, Lere Olayinka, said billboards and posters in Omuo Ekiti, Ekiti East Local Government, Ikole Ekiti, Ikere Ekiti-Ado Ekiti road and other towns were destroyed today (Monday), adding that, “destroying billboards won’t save the APC from defeat.”

The statement read; “Today, Ekiti State witnessed a return of crude and animalistic display of political intolerance as thugs on the campaign train of the APC candidate, Dr. Kayode Fayemi went about destroying campaign billboards and posters of the PDP.

“It should be noted that there had been no political violence in Ekiti State until Fayemi declared his ambition to run for the governorship. Even his party members have not been spared in his usual display political thuggery. The whole world saw what happened at the APC primary election.

“However, we wish to state that destroying campaign billboards and posters will not stop Fayemi and his APC from suffering worse electoral defeat than they suffered in 2014.

“Ekiti people are resolute and on July 14, they will speak with one voice against Fayemi and his agents of political and economic tyranny that plunged the state into debt and put jobs of thousands of government workers, especially teachers on the line.

“Like the locusts were shown the way out of Ekiti in 2014, they will be dislodged finally on July 14 no matter the level at which they display violence.”

Senate Under Me Most Productive Since 1999 – Saraki

Senate President Bukola Saraki yesterday said the Senate under him was most productive since 1999 when the country returned to civil rule.

Saraki in a statement to mark the third anniversary of the 8th Senate, issued from Saudi Arabia where he is on lesser hajj, said they have worked assiduously and diligently to meet demands of Nigerians.

“In this time, we have passed 213 Bills, cleared 138 petitions submitted by the public. We are happy to say that this Senate is the most productive since 1999. It has surpassed the 5th Senate which with 129 bills in four years had the highest number of bills, as against the 6th Senate with 72 bills, and 128 passed by the 7th Senate. The number of petitions we have successfully treated to the satisfaction of Nigerians, who filed them dwarfed the eight and six treated by the sixth and seventh Senate respectively.

Saraki in a statement by his media aide, Yusuph Olaniyonu said the Senate and the National Assembly will continue to be transparent, accountable and responsive even as the nation and its political office holders prepare for the 2019 elections.

How Nanle Dariye Laundered N1.5 Billion – EFCC
User Avatar Forum: Crime
Posted by: Edoman - 06-12-2018, 01:21 PM - No Replies

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on Monday presented its first witness in the ongoing trial of Nanle Dariye, son of former Plateau State Governor, Joshua Dariye.

He is standing trial on a 6-count charge of money laundering to the tune of N1.5billion before Justice Ijeoma Ojukwu of the Federal High Court, Abuja.

The suit filed with charge no. FHC/ABJ/CR/19/2018 has Dariye as first defendant.

The second defendant is Apartment le Paradis, a hotel where he was director.

Counsel to the EFCC, George Adebola presented his first witness, PW1 Emem Kongkor, who introduced herself as an operative of the anti-graft agency and Team Leader “Team A” of the Inspection and Enforcement Unit of the Special Control Unit Against Money Laundering, SCUML.

“SCUML has the mandate to register, monitor and regulate the activities of designated non-financial institutions, DNFIs. Section 25 of the Money Laundering Act 2011 (as amended) defines DNFIs to include mechanized farming, hotels, casinos, supermarkets and other small-scale businesses”, he said.

According to Ms Kongkor, “Section 10 of the Money Laundering Act 2011 (as amended) mandates all DNFIs to report in writing every single lodgements or transfer that exceeds the threshold of N5million or its equivalent for individual accounts and N10million or its equivalent for corporate accounts within seven days”.

The witness narrated how sometime in 2017, a case of non-compliance with the Money Laundering Act 2011 (as amended) was referred to Team “A” for investigation.

“Following the investigation, the team liaised with the Asset Management Company of Nigeria, AMCON desk of EFCC and investigations revealed that Mr Dariye had a case with the AMCON team of EFCC as well.

“Furthermore, the first defendant was invited on May 15, 2017 to meet with the Team “A” and AMCON. During the meeting, Dariye disclosed that he did not know that the second defendant, Apartment le Paradis Limited was not registered with SCUML.

“I took him through the Money Laundering Act 2011 (as amended) and explained the need to register the hotel and report transactions and advised that he register with SCUML and send backlog of all its business transactions.

“A formal letter of non-compliance was written to Apartment le Paradis Limited on May 30, 2017 stating their obligations with regards to DNFI registration and reporting,” she said.

The case has been adjourned to June 12, 2018 for cross-examination.

Dino Melaye: Principal Suspects Deny Gunrunning Allegation
User Avatar Forum: Politics
Posted by: Edoman - 06-12-2018, 12:55 PM - No Replies

The two principal suspects Kabiru Seidu, 31, aka “Osama” and Nuhu Salihu, 25, aka “Small” who allegedly implicated Senator Dino Melaye in the alleged offences of criminal conspiracy, illegal possession of firearms and illegal arms dealing have denied committing the offences

The suspected criminals appeared before a Kogi Senior Magistrate Court, Lokoja on Monday along with embattled lawmaker from Kogi West, Senator Melaye.

They declared that the allegations were false and they were not guilty when their pleas were taken.

The alleged offences according to the prosecution counsel led by Dr Alex Izinyon (SAN), are contrary to section 97(1) and the Penalty Code and section 27(1)(a) (1) of the firearms Act CAP P28, laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 2004.

Izinyon had opened his case with an update that the state High Court presided over by the Chief Judge, Justice Nasir Ajanah had released the Senator on bail.

He said that the status of first and second defendants remained same in police custody as ordered by the magistrate court on May 3.

Izinyon reminded the court that the pleas of the defendants were not taken on arraignment.

When the charges were read afresh to the defendants, Melaye as well as Seidu and Salihu, pleaded not guilty.

After the pleas were taken and the defendants pleaded not guilty, Izinyon applied for the leave of the court to have prosecution witnesses’ depositions forwarded to the defence.

Mr Yemi Mohammed Esq., holding brief for Chief Mike Ozekhome, lead counsel for the 3rd defendant (Melaye) objected to the application saying that the case was a criminal one in which witnesses must give their testimonies in the open court.

Mohammed said the front-loading system the prosecution was urging the court to adopt amounted to a short cut that would be prejudicial to his client and reduce the chances of the public getting to know the truth.

“It amounts to closure of the trial by about 50 per cent. Justice is a three way traffic – the prosecutor, the accused and the society and that is why trials are done in the open court”, he said.

In his ruling, the Senior Magistrate, Mr Suleiman Abdullah said he would “wholeheartedly” want trials in his court to be concluded speedily but he would have to look at the rules of the court.

“Where they are no such rules, I will look at the provisions of section 479(4) of the Administration of Criminal Justice Law of Kogi State.

“This is a case that this court will appreciate that everyone put what they have on the table. I am not comfortable with sworn depositions replacing oral testimonies of witnesses.

“The application of the prosecution is refused and I want this trial to be concluded in the normal ways trials are done and will be ready to take evidence day-to-day if need be”, he said.

Abdullah, therefore, adjourned to July 26, for commencement of hearing.

Boyfriend Of Married Woman Who Jumped Into Lagos Lagoon, Lands In Hospital.Video

New report has emerged about the woman who parked her car on 3rd Mainland bridge in Lagos and jumped into a Lagoon. According to Nick Sparkles, the woman who committed suicide is based in Texas in the United States and was married with 3 kids..

It was alleged that her husband Tunde works or used to work with Access Bank in Lagos.

The wife allegedly got involved with another guy in Nigeria and they both got involved in series of adulterous activities. Her lover, an older guy as well swindled or collected over N10m from her.

She went to arrest him only for him to publish nude pictures of them together in order to prove his innocence to the Police that whatever happened between both of them was consensual, that he's not a fraudster as claimed by the married woman.

The blackmail from the man got to her husband and this compelled the husband to conduct a DNA test on all his 3 children which later turned out that they are not all his kids after all.

Those kids belong to someone else. On Saturday, 9th of June, 2018, the woman drove her truck to the bridge, parked her Ford SUV van on the 3rd Mainland Bridge and jumped inside the lagoon on a suicide mission which is a resultant effect of the blackmail.

An update on the report reveals that her lover who duped her of N10 Million and released her Unclad pictures is currently in the hospital under police custody (as seen in the video below). He is said to have suffered from shock, upon hearing what had happened as a result of his illicit affair.

Nigeria spends N190b on petrol subsidy in one year By Roseline Okere
User Avatar Forum: Oil/Gas
Posted by: Edoman - 06-12-2018, 10:21 AM - No Replies

[Image: Ibe.jpg]Emmanuel Ibe Kachikwu
With continued plummeting of crude oil prices, Nigeria now records a monthly average of N15.859 billion as under-recovery on importation of petrol or Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) into the country.
Though the Federal Government claimed it had exited the era of subsidy payment on imported PMS, data from the NNPC showed an under-recovery of N190.314 billion between January 2017 and January 2018.
Under-recovery has been described as the losses that oil companies incur due to the difference between the subsidised price at which oil-marketing companies sell certain products and the price, which they should have received for meeting their cost of production.

Under-recovery or over-recovery in petroleum products import was introduced after the Federal Government scraped subsidy on PMS.
Apart from the huge cost of subsidising the product, the country’s consumption increased from 28 million litres in 2017 to 60 million during the first quarter of 2018, according to latest consumption data from the National Bureau of Statistics.
This has stifled efforts by the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Dr. Ibe Kachikwu, who claimed to have brought down PMS consumption from 50 million litres a day to about 28 million litres per day in 2017.
Kachikwu had said that the current administration was able to block fraud impacted volume of petrol in 2016, which was nearly 40 per cent of the country’s consumption, reducing consumption to 28 million litres.
The Guardian learnt that the same forces the minister claimed have been tackled have returned and are now diverting petrol from Nigeria to neighbouring countries.
This means half of the petrol being imported into the country finds its way into neighbouring states.
Specifically, a breakdown of the monthly under-recovery suffered by NNPC showed that the country incurred under-recovery of N45.782 billion in January 2018 alone.
Further analysis from NNPC’s Financial Report in January 2018, revealed that the country’s under-recovery stood at N37,263,846,591.

In January 2017/February, N6,297,594,169; March, N8,206,727,836; April, N8,206,727,836; May, N7,743,923,020; and June, N11,792,197,288.
Data from the NNPC showed that the country’s under-recovery was N10,250,012,947 in July; N7,938,985,582 in August; N7,521,590,052 in September; N6,848,622,525 in October; N16,785,193,827 in November; and N15,676,576,185 in December, 2017.
At the current Brent crude oil price of N78 per litre, the Expected Open Market Price of PMS rose to N205 per litre, while the regulated price remained N145.
This automatically translates to under-recovery of N60 per litre. Facts from the NBS disclosed that Nigeria’s average daily PMS consumption was 60 million during the first quarter of 2018.
Kachikwu had adopted the price modulation policy for products, to ensure the price of petrol reflects the price of crude oil in the international market as close as possible.

But rather than the price of petrol reflecting the increasing international crude oil prices, NNPC has taken responsibility in ensuring PMS price remains at N145 by paying subsidy.
NNPC Group Managing Director, Maikanti Baru, had attributed the heavy cost of subsidy to the sale of petrol at N145 per litre, which under the new policy is described as under-recovery, and proliferation of filling stations in communities with coastal borders across the country.
He explained that because of the low price of petrol in Nigeria, as compared to prices per litre within West African countries around her, smugglers are taking advantage of this to divert loaded tankers of products from their destinations in-country to service stations at border towns, supplying countries like Niger, Ghana and Benin Republic.
According to him, increasing fuel price in the international market and the corresponding increase in petrol imports have brought about a big price differential between Nigeria’s regulated market and the deregulated market in neighbouring countries.
President, Oil and Gas Trainers Association of Nigeria (OGTAN), Dr, Mayowa Afe, emphasised the need for the Federal Government to encourage investment in local refining of crude oil.
This, he said, would put a stop to the revenue on importation of petroleum products.
“There is no need to export our crude oil. We have domestic needs here.
Let’s refine and increase the capacity of our refineries to be able to produce most of our daily consumption needs in the country.
“To encourage more investment, government should fast track the contract period. A lot of investors will be frustrated when the contractual period is too long.
We have been talking about modular refineries for a long time, but none has started, despite being given licenses.”

Speaking on the economics of petroleum products prices modulation in Nigeria, the President/Chief Executive Officer of Capacity Development International, Dr. Emmanuel O. Ojameruaye, said the price modulation of petroleum is not synonymous with removal of subsidy.
“It is not a new subsidy removal. Government can modulate prices in a way that retains small amount of subsidy or taxes or removes subsidy.
It depends on the import prices of petroleum products.
If import price is low, the government may decide to reduce or retain the pump price while imposing a small tax, so that the pump price will be greater than the Expected Open Market Price and provide a small subsidy.
The bottom line of price modulation is to ensure that the pump price of each product moves in the direction of the import price, although not necessary proportionately,” Ojameruaye explained.
On his part, President, Nigerian Association of Petroleum Explorationists (NAPE), Mr. Abiodun Adesanya, emphasised the need for the country to refine its crude oil rather than export it.
He said: “We should try as much as possible to explore what we have and use it for our development.
So, rather than producing crude oil and exporting it for dollars, we should refine it at our refineries and then sell the petrol through export.
“We should use the gas in generating power, petrochemicals for fertilizer, and the liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) for cooking.
We should stop people from using firewood, which will have a multiplier effect on the economy.
We should use oil and gas revenue to set up petrochemical industries, so that by the time oil is no longer relevant, just like coal, we will have something to fall back to. Our refineries need to work.”

RHAPSODY OF REALITIES

TUESDAY, 12TH JUNE.

THE LANGUAGE OF OUR KINGDOM.

Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God. WHICH THINGS ALSO WE SPEAK… (1 Corinthians 2:12-13).

As Christians, we belong to a real spiritual kingdom: the Kingdom of God’s love-Son. In that kingdom, we have our peculiar Kingdom language. We don’t just talk; we speak the wisdom of God; that’s the language of our Kingdom: “Howbeit we speak wisdom among them that are perfect: yet not the wisdom of this world, nor of the princes of this world, that come to nought” (1 Corinthians 2:6).

Too many Christians don’t understand how to speak the Kingdom language, because they’ve never been rightly and adequately taught, and as a result, they talk fear, and unbelief. Some of them call it “reality”; “Let’s face reality” they’d say, referring to the things that their senses can perceive. The only reality is God’s Word.

Don’t say you’re broke just because there’s no money in your pocket or bank account. Instead, affirm, “The Lord is my shepherd and I lack nothing; He’s brought me into a large place, a place of wealth untold. I’m supernaturally supplied, and all my needs are met; I have no consciousness of lack, because all things are mine!” That’s speaking the language of our Kingdom.

Somebody says, “But we have to say it as it is; if I feel a headache why can’t I say I have a headache?” You can’t say, “I have a headache,” because headaches don’t exist in our Kingdom. The things we speak are the things God has freely given to us, and sickness, disease, failure, lack, and death aren’t part of those things.

When you speak contrary to your divine nature and provisions in Christ, it’s an “illegal operation”; it’s like entering the wrong codes into a programme or computer system; it won’t work.

Therefore, speak the wisdom of God always. Only affirm your glorious life in Christ. When you declare, “I’m the manifestation of the glory of God,” you’re speaking the language of our Kingdom; you’re communicating with the right sound code. Hallelujah!

CONFESSION

I speak the wisdom of God always, and the circumstances of life are subdued before me. I reason with the mind of Christ, and my outlook on life is from the perspective of the Word. I’m making unstoppable progress in life and ministry, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.

#AFFIRMATIONTRAIN

12TH JUNE

I affirm that my life is for the glory of God! All things are working together for my good because I love the Lord, and I’ve been called according to His purpose. Everything I require for life and godliness has been delivered unto me, and I am enjoying life to the full. I have received abundance of grace, thus, my capacity, vision, dreams, and ideas have expanded. I am conscious of the grace of God that is at work in me mightily.

I expand on every side; grow stronger by the day like a cedar in Lebanon, and flourish like the palm tree! I am making progress by the Spirit, and of my increase, progress, and prosperity, there shall be no end! My entire being is inundated with the life of God and I am empowered by the Holy Ghost to do bigger things. I am set on the course on which I must follow and God’s Spirit is leading me in the path of success, victory, and prosperity. Hallelujah! I am made, and I live each day to fulfil God’s dream for my life. I do not struggle but enjoy unstoppable growth and progress as I receive guidance and light from the Lord. I am seated with Christ in heavenly places, far above all the hardships, troubles, perils and corrupting influences in the world. I dominate and triumph over circumstances today and always. Blessed be God. Hallelujah!

Anxiety Over Plot To Scuttle APC Convention

•South-West Minister implicated in plot against Buhari, APC
•Cracks in nPDP as leaders weigh defection options
•PDP tactically extends deadline for Imoke’s committee

There was anxiety yesterday over alleged plot to disrupt the June 23 National Convention of the All Progressives Congress (APC) by some aggrieved leaders and members of the party.

One of the suspected brains behind the plot is a Minister from the South-West who is alleged to have had a midnight session with some party leaders from his state at the weekend in Abuja.

The said leaders were first camped in Gwagwalada Council Area but were later driven under the cover of darkness to Abuja Municipal Council for further briefing.

Authoritative party sources said yesterday that a massive plot was developing and urgent steps must be taken to calm frayed nerves and stop the alleged plan to frustrate and divide the APC during the convention.

Investigation showed that the plot is being hatched mainly by party members who are aggrieved by the conduct of the recent congresses; those who want to create a defection scene; those opposed to the defection of certain leaders from PDP to APC; a few others who are feeling marginalized by the government and the party leadership; and those allegedly being used by the opposition party to infiltrate APC.

One of the sources said that although the party leadership is looking forward to a hitch-free convention, “some leaders and members are plotting to scuttle it either through a court process or by creating a split in the party on June 23.”

““Those behind this plot have reneged on the agreement to make ex-Governor Adams Oshiomhole as the sole candidate of the party. They want to sponsor more candidates for the office of national chairman of APC,” the source said.

He added: “while some are plotting to defect from APC to another party on convention day, a few others want to form a parallel party organ in order to cause confusion.

“We also got privileged information of moves to supply placards to some APC members to embarrass top leaders of the party.”

One of those suspected of plotting to cause embarrassment is the Southwest minister.

The source said the minister “is just out to join forces to embarrass top APC leaders on the convention ground.”

The source added: “we are however being proactive to checkmate all these evil plans and have a stress-free gathering.”

Contest for National Secretary raises tempo

Sources identified the contest for the position of the party’s national secretary as one of the most contentious issues likely to face the party at the convention.

Northeast governors of the party are said to be resisting moves by some forces who are encouraging a former National Chairman of PDP, Sen. Ali Modu Sheriff to produce the next national secretary of the party.

Sheriff recently rejoined the party after flirting with the PDP.

Four contenders have emerged for the office of National Secretary of the party; the incumbent, Mallam Mai Mala Buni (Yobe); a cerebral politician, Kashim Imam (Borno); Buhari’s ardent loyalist, Waziri Bulama; and Dr. Haruna Yerima.

A Governors’ Forum source said: “Sheriff is backing Kashim Imam (Borno) but Governor Ibrahim Gaidam is pleading with his colleagues to retain the slot in Yobe since Borno State has cornered many juicy appointments.

“So far, Yobe, Borno, Adamawa, and I think leaders from Gombe and Taraba have agreed that Yobe should produce the party’s secretary. The governor of Bauchi State is being expected to tag along with his colleagues.”

“Some strategists of the President, party leaders and Sheriff prefer either Kashim Imam or Waziri Bulama from Buhari Support Organization.

“Although the governors have been extremely loyal to the President, they might not guarantee him success at the poll in 2019 if the party’s secretariat is handed over to Sheriff.”

When contacted, a member of the National Convention Committee said: “Some members of this committee have heard of plans to disrupt the convention but we cannot authoritatively confirm it.

“All I can tell you is that the Convention Committee will work round the clock to make it a successful one.”

Cracks in nPDP as leaders weigh defection options

It was also gathered that the leaders of the nPDP are no longer unanimous in their plan to dump the APC for the PDP.

Some of leaders are currently weighing options on whether to leave or not.

Five Tenants Defile, Impregnate Landlord’s 12-year-old Daughter

Two men out of the five tenants who reportedly defiled their deceased landlord's 12-year-old daughter and got her pregnant, were arraigned before an Lagos State High Court in Igbosere on Monday.

Speaking at the trial of two of the suspects, 30-year-old Shaibu Isiaka and 34-year-old John Obah who were brought by the police before a Yaba Magistrates’ Court in 2014 on a two-count charge of conspiracy and unlawful sexual intercourse, the prosecution witness, Sergeant Afeez Idowu, who was led in evidence by prosecution counsel Mr Adebayo Haroun, told Justice Sedoten Ogunsanya,  that the girl in company of her mother identified Isiaka and Obah among the five men who defiled her on separate occasions.

Idowu said:

“The girl said that whenever she was sent to buy things like sweet, the first defendant Isiaka, usually asked her to keep the change and that whenever her mother was not around, the first defendant would have sexual intercourse with her on her mother’s matrimonial bed.

“She said that Obah, the second defendant, was the first person to defile her. She was 12 years old when they defiled and impregnated her.”

Though the suspects pleaded not guilty, however Idowu disclosed that the tenants, without coercion, admitted the crime at the Police Divisional Headquarters at Oworonshoki.

Idowu added: “During investigation, Obah admitted that he had sexual intercourse with the victim, he also claimed that when he discovered that she was having sexual intercourse with the first defendant and his brothers, he left her.”

He further told Justice Ogunsanya that Isiaka also admitted that he and his brothers, who were squatting with him, had sexual intercourse with the girl.

Idowu added: “When we discovered that the girl’s stomach began to protrude, the police gave her mother a letter to take to a hospital, where a test confirmed that she was pregnant.”

Following the conclusion of the examination-in-chief, Justice Ogunsanya adjourned till October 9, for continuation of trial.

Yahoo Boys Kill Their Friend, Use His Heart For Ritual, As Juju Priest Escapes
User Avatar Forum: Other Stories
Posted by: Edoman - 06-11-2018, 09:35 PM - No Replies

Quote:The Lagos State police command has arrested four persons for alleged murder of their friend for moneymaking rituals. The suspects are presently being interrogated at the homicide section of the State Criminal and Intelligence Department (SCID), Panti, Yaba.

One of the suspects, simply identified as Daniel, confessed that: “We are from Chibok in Maiduguri, Borno State. We are four that killed our friend, Isaiah James, for ritual purposes, though it was not our initial plan to do so. We wanted to do charms to excel in advance fee fraud, known as 419, but the native doctor who we consulted told us that he won’t do charms for us with regards 419.

“We asked why and he told us that we are not educated. He told us that we should be literate before we can do 419 successfully. We asked if there was another alternative and he said he would perform a ritual out of sympathy for us. He told us to provide a human heart. That was the beginning of our problems.

“When the herbalist told us to bring a human heart, we told him to help us organise it. He promised to do so and charged us N100,000. We paid him N60,000 and promised to balance the N40,000. Few days later, the native doctor called us to say that one of his boys who he sent on the mission for the human heart hunting was shot in the hand by vigilance group members. He said he won’t be able to provide us with the heart and asked us to provide it ourselves,” he narrated.

According to Daniel, they became confused on their next plan of action until the gang leader identified as Audu, suggested that he would lure his cousin, who is also a friend to Daniel to where they would kill him and pluck out his heart for the ritual.

Continuing, he said: “We called him on phone and told him to meet us at a drinking joint in Ajah, Lagos. He agreed to meet us. He did not suspect foul play and was comfortable with us. We met at night and we started drinking local gin until the wee hours.

“We bought him fried yam. At about 1:00a.m. we said we should go home. As we were walking home, Audu who was armed with a knife, said he was going to urinate. So all of us including our target joined Audu to a corner to urinate. It was at that corner that we all rushed at him, pulled him down and hit him with hard objects and Audu stabbed him.

“When we noticed that he was dying, Ayuba butchered him, searched inside, but he could not find the heart. I collected the knife from him and put my hand inside, I found the heart. His heart was still alive and pumping blood, I pulled it out with the help of the knife.

“We took it to the native doctor at Ijebu Ode, Ogun State. He used it to prepare beans for us. He promised that after eating the beans porridge, we would start making big money. He said that anything we laid our hands must prosper. He requested for the N40,000 balance which we paid him. We had just finished the meal when the police came to pick me.

“A lady who saw us the night we killed Isaiah, told his people that she saw us in company of Isaiah. We are all from Chibok in Maiduguri. When the police came to me, I confessed. I did not feel anything killing him, human being is the same thing as animals. My regret is that we did not succeed in making the money and that the native doctor escaped arrest,” he added.

The Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, has banned the Special Anti Robbery Squad (SARS) of the Nigeria Police Force from conducting stop and search operations on roads except when necessary.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that some group of Nigerians recently on social media, called for the scrapping of SARS over alleged harassment of innocent Nigerians, using the #EndSARS. Following the allegation, the Inspector- General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, promised to restructure and reposition the unit for effective service delivery. Idris also warned members of the group against acting as body-guards, delving into land matters and debt collection that were considered civil.

He further warned that members of the unit must only embark on operations with the permission of the commissioner of police in charge of SARS in the police commands.

“You must operate in official uniform clearly marked for identification. I just want to warn you all here that any officer caught engaging in these activities will be dealt with accordingly. The Nigeria Police force under my leadership shall operate strictly guided by the human rights principles as enshrined in the United Nations charter on human rights” he said.

He mandated the Inspector-General of police’s monitoring units and the X-squad and other over sights unit of the force to monitor the activities of the SARS. The police boss noted that the establishment of the unit was due to activities of the men of the underworld.

He said that as part of measures to check the unit, they would be solely mandated to confront only armed robbery cases and violent crimes in the country, Idris also said that men deployed to SARS would undergo training, continuous assessment and psychometric test to determine their suitability or otherwise.

Three Catholic Priests Die In Anambra Community After Burning Of Shrines. Photos

The Catholic community in Igbo – Ukwu village, Aguata Local Government Area of Anambra State - has been thrown into mourning again after losing another parish priest to the cold hands of death. The deceased identified as Reverend Father Christopher Azolibe, was the Catholic parish priest of Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church, the foremost Catholic community in Igbo-ukwu town.

Until his death Fr Azolibe also served as the Dean of the Igbo-ukwu Catholic Deanary and also Chairman of ICCPC.

Mixed feelings have continued to rise over the death of the priest as it was revealed that this is the third catholic priest to die this year 2108 after the Christian community in the town carried out a crusade that led to burning of shrines on December 29th, 2017. Their deaths were happened within a space of six months.

According to reports, the traditionalists in Igboukwu threatened a showdown with the Catholic Church earlier this year over the destruction of about 15 shrines and ancient artifacts in the community.

They specifically fingered Rev. Fr. Emmanuel Obimma (Ebube Muonso), the spiritual director of Holy Ghost Adoration Ministry, Uke for orchestrating the destruction during his December 29, 2017 crusade at Central Primary School Field, Igboukwu.

The traditionalists had received information that the priest was coming for community "cleansing" and had written to the Parish Priest of the host church, urging the parishioners to steer clear of their religious sites.

80 Nigerians Commit Suicide In 13 Months
User Avatar Forum: Retired Forums. Please Make Your Post Within The 3 Forums In General Discussion
Posted by: Edoman - 06-11-2018, 07:48 PM - No Replies

There is a surging trend of Nigerians committing suicide with about 80 killed in the last 13 months, according to reported incidents collated by Daily Trust.

Seventy-nine people had committed suicide between April 8, 2017, and May 12 this year, according to the data obtained by Daily Trust from content analysis of Nigerian newspapers.
Majority of the reasons given for the reported suicides range from financial difficulty, marital problems, academic challenges, among others. Lagos State leads the pack with 14 reported cases within the period under review.

Close to 800 000 people die globally due to suicide every year, which is one person every 40 seconds, the World Health Organisation (WHO) said. According to WHO Suicide Ranking, with 15.1 suicides per 100,000 population in a year, Nigeria is now the 30th most suicide-prone (out of 183 nations) in the world.

Nigeria is also ranked 10th African country with higher rates of suicide, leading countries like Togo (ranked 26th), Sierra Leone (11th), Angola (19th), Equatorial Guinea (7th), Burkina Faso (22nd) and Cote d’Ivoire (5th).
The International Association for Suicide Prevention (IASP) said suicide occurs throughout the lifespan and is the second leading cause of death among 15-29-year olds globally.

Suicide is a global phenomenon; in fact, 78 percent of suicides occurred in low- and middle-income countries in 2015. Suicide accounted for 1.4 percent of all deaths worldwide, making it the 17th leading cause of death in 2015.

There are indications that for each adult who died of suicide there may have been more than 20 others who have attempted suicide.
Reasons and signs of suicide – Experts
Medical experts said some of the signs that someone may be thinking or planning to commit suicide include change in behaviour or the presence of entirely new behaviours, when a person is always talking or thinking about death or killing self, when a person loses interest in things he or she used to care about before and making comments about being worthless, helpless or hopeless.

Others include when the person has depression, takes risks that could lead to death, sudden switch from being very sad to being happy, visiting or calling people to say goodbye, looking for a way to kill themselves, such as searching online for materials or means, acting recklessly and withdrawing from activities to mention a few.
They said people around anyone exhibiting these signs or who have attempted suicide before should be concerned and seek help from experts and appropriate authorities.

Dr Mustapha Gudaji, a consultant psychiatrist with the Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital and a senior lecturer with Bayero University Kano, said there are many factors responsible for the rising cases of suicide.
He said there are biological causes such as people committing suicide because of personality defects, and some diseases that make them feel incomplete and want to take their lives, adding that other causes are the mental illnesses like depression, drugs abuse, and adjustment disorders.

Dr Gudaji said the high rate of drug abuse is also increasing the prevalence of suicide in the country saying that some people engage in drug abuse to escape from the high realities of life, and to take care of mental illnesses like depression, known as mal-adjustive ways of coping.

The psychiatrist said sociological causes of suicide include unemployment and socioeconomic hardships among others.
Dr Maymunah Yusuf Kadiri, a consultant neuropsychiatrist and psychotherapist, said depression, reactions to failure and disappointments, in response to accumulated domestic violence, unemployment, alcohol dependence, are some reasons for committing suicide.

“Against the general belief that suicide results from mental illness, not all people who commit suicide are mentally ill,” Dr Kadiri who is also the Medical Director of Pinnacle Medical Services, Lagos, said.
She said suicide prevention needs proper coordination and collaboration to ensure effective outcomes.

According to her, suicide is not the best way of dealing with personal loss or the way to manage any situation. “Suicide has to stop and this involves joint campaign by everyone,” she added.
“There is need to develop resilience (the ability to cope with adverse life events and adjust to them), a sense of personal self-worth and self-confidence, effective coping and problem-solving skills, and adaptive help-seeking behaviour because they are often considered to be protective factors against the development of suicidal behaviours,” she advised.

What religious leaders say
The Founder of the Al-Mustofiyyah Society of Nigeria, Ustaz Maisuna M. Yahya, said while it is haram (forbidden) to commit suicide, some of the reasons for the rising cases of suicide in the last one year include economic hardship with some who graduated having no job and those who learnt apprenticeship have no money to buy instruments, as well as the low-income salary, sacked or retrenchment.

“Suicide is a great punishable sin in the sight of Allah. And whoever hopes in God, will be repatriated by Him. So also, are divorced cases loss of hope in the nearest future lack of strong faith in Allah as the Sole Provider (Sustainer).
“Also, are orphanages and widows’ predicaments, frustration from indebtedness, peers’ influence, effects of drug addiction, the harshness of parenthood, loneliness without socialising with other responsible people,” Yahya said.

On his part, the Chief Imam of the Al-Habibiyyah Islamic Society, Sheik Fuad Adeyemi, said, non-reliance on Allah and over ambition among others also contribute to the high cases of suicide in the country.

Also, President of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Dr. Samson Ayokunle told Daily Trust that the economic situation in the country is largely responsible.

“From all indications, the political class has failed us. They over-promised but under-deliver and instead of joint hands in solving social and economic problems, they are indulging in blame game. The jobless, the hungry, the homeless, the hopeless, the rejected, the poor, the sick who has no one to take care of him or her at all, do not care which party is ruling or the opposition.
“All they want is a solution to their problems. If the religion is telling them hereafter, the government is not put in place to send them to the early grave but helps them to justify their existence. Our government at all levels should wake up from their unholy slumber before the situation snowballs into revolution. A hungry man is an angry man.

Reno Omokri Accepts Pres Buhari’s Challenge : Proves He Is A Liar

Reno Omokri Accepts Pres Buhari’s Challenge To Prove He Is a Liar

It is very interesting that President Buhari has said that he did not sack the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Mr. Godwin Emefiele, when he came in because he wanted him to salvage the terrible economy he inherited.

He also alleged that the Peoples Democratic Party left the country in tatters and challenged anyone to contradict his claim.

I hereby accept the President’s challenge and I remind him that this will not be the first time I have exposed him as a liar, having recently unveiled 20 lies in his Democracy Day speech to the nation on May 29, 2018.

In his Tafsir message delivered on Sunday June 10, 2018, prominent Islamic cleric, Sheikh Abubakar Gumi, detailed how the Jonathan administration built infrastructure all over the North including 9 Federal Universities and 165 almajiri schools. In contrast, the only project initiated, started and completed in the last three years by the Buhari government is the Daura helipad for the President’s private use.

The President should be reminded that under former President Jonathan, Nigeria never experienced anything like padded budget and the NNPC did not spend $25b without due process, neither did fugitives who stole billions in pension funds get reinstated, recalled and double promoted.

President Buhari should also note that during the Jonathan administration, fuel subsidy was far less than the ₦1.4 trillion the Buhari government is spending today. Even at that petrol was ₦87 per litre under former president Jonathan while it is ₦145 today. How can fuel price increase while fuel subsidy also increases?

Nigerians can also testify that the salaries of federal workers were been paid as and when due during the Jonathan years, unlike today when the federal government owes salaries left, right and centre. Even at that the minimum wage of ₦18,000 under Jonathan was worth $130 and could buy you two 50kg bags of rice. Today, the same ₦18,000 minimum wage under buhari is the equivalent of a mere $40 and cannot even buy you one 50kg bag of rice.

The most expensive infrastructure built in Nigeria over the last 20 years is the Abuja - Kaduna super fast railway. That project was built and completed by the Jonathan administration. It is therefore preposterous that a man who cannot name one project that he has initiated, started and completed in the last 3 years, calls the economy that Jonathan bequeathed to him terrible.

The Buhari administration has borrowed ₦11 trillion in three years, which is more money than the Peoples Democratic Party borrowed in 16 years. Yet, despite such unprecedented borrowings, the economy moved from being the third fastest growing economy in the world under President Jonathan in 2015, to an economy with the fourth worst performing currency in the world under President Buhari, according to Bloomberg, yet, President Buhari has the effrontery to paint himself as a saviour! It is Nigeria that needs to be saved from Buhari, and not Buhari that will save Nigeria!

From the foregoing, it is hypocritical of President Buhari to say that the economy was in a bad state under President Jonathan. President Buhari runs to the United Kingdom for the best healthcare money can buy at a cost of millions of dollars, something that President Jonathan never did, even though ex President Goodluck built 5 hospitals for the public nation wide and over 50 health care center for the masses.

How can an administration that cannot even provide paracetamol for the Aso Rock clinic despite over 3 billion budgeted for it under President Buhari (according to the First Lady) accuse the Jonathan administration that refurbished 10 general hospitals for the masses across Nigeria of leaving a ‘terrible economy’?

President Buhari needs to be reminded that when Bill Gates visited Nigeria during the Presidency of Dr. Goodluck Jonathan, he praised the then President and the government for their management skills.

After he returned, he tweeted on December 22, 2014 that “Nigeria actually had a pretty good year”. However, on March 22, 2018, when the same Bill Gates visited Nigeria under the failed leadership of Muhammadu Buhari he said the Buhari government’s economic plans were “inadequate”, “does not address Nigerians’ needs”. He thereafter described Nigeria under Buhari as one of the worst places in the world to be born. And this is the man who is now pointing a finger at Dr. Jonathan, unaware that four are pointing back at him.

Finally, let me remind the President that people only compare themselves to the best and the reason he has this strong psychological need to compare himself to former Presidents Jonathan and Obasanjo is because he suffers from a chronic case of inferiority complex.

There are four habits that people do not want to see in their leaders. These are:

* Complaining
* Comparing
* Criticising, and
* Condemning.

Unfortunately, it is as if President Buhari went to the school of bad leadership to learn these negative traits.

Abiola’s GCFR Honour Well Deserved – Senator Melaye
User Avatar Forum: Retired Forums. Please Make Your Post Within The 3 Forums In General Discussion
Posted by: Edoman - 06-11-2018, 11:50 AM - No Replies

Quote:SENATOR Dino Melaye has described the posthumous national honour bestowed on late Moshood Abiola as a well deserved one.

Late Abiola presumed winner of the 1993 presidential election, was honoured posthumously with the Grand Commander of the Federal Republic (GCFR) award with Mr. Melaye saying it was wrong.

Mr Melaye against his earlier stance on the topic matter said his initial position were misrepresented.

At the Senate plenary on Thursday, the lawmaker had argued that the National Honours Act provides that such a honour be conferred on the recipient in person; and since Mr Abiola is dead, he cannot receive the award.

He added that the act provides that the honour be bestowed on Nigerians and since Mr Abiola is dead, “he is no longer a Nigerian”.

“Subsection 2 of the act says a person shall be eligible for appointment to any rank or holder unless he is a citizen of Nigeria. A dead man is not a citizen of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. We should not be emotional about this. The law remains the law.

“Subject to the next notice, a person shall be appointed to a particular rank of an order when the president receives him in person,” he had said.

But on Sunday, Melaye in a statement backtracked saying his support for the award is unshaken as he had been clamouring for such years earlier.

“Since last two days, I have been inundated with calls and text messages from well-meaning Nigerians especially my constituents, who want to inquire my exact position on the declaration of June 12 as the new Democracy Day and the conferment of the highest National Honours of GCFR on the late Chief MKO Abiola, the presumed winner of June 12, 1993 presidential election.

“For the avoidance of doubt, my views and belief on the sanctity of June 12 and the place of the late Chief MKO Abiola in Nigeria’s democratic history, have not changed and will not. Hence, in my view, the decision by the Federal Government led by President Muhammadu Buhari to honour the late business mogul was deserving and long overdue save for the attendant legal issues raised.

“It is a verifiable fact that I have canvassed for this recognition for Chief Abiola over the years, and granted interview to Channels Television two years ago, where I advocated for same,” Melaye said.

However, he urged the government to work on what he said were legal encumbrances surrounding the decision and to alter the National Honours Act to accommodate the new development.

“Let me make also it abundantly clear that while both Chief Abiola and the late legal luminary, Chief Gani Fawehinmi (SAN) deserved more than the GCFR and GCON Honours respectively to be bestowed on them posthumously next Tuesday, it is however important that the right thing be done in their memory should not have any blemish in the guise of the current debate for legality or otherwise of the historic Honours as we are witnessing now.

“I urge the federal government to do the needful and display sincerity of purpose by officially recognising Chief Abiola as President-elect and cause the official results of the June 12, 1993 presidential election to be released by INEC since President Buhari himself had admitted in the Presidential Order designating June 12 as Democracy Day, the most freest and credible election, and then the GCFR title will therefore have a meaning.

“If the right thing is done now by the federal government by proposing amendment to the National Honours Act 1964 to accommodate the current developments, no government in future will reverse the decision. This is my stand as a lawmaker,” Mr Melaye added.

Rains, Major Challenge To Power Transmission, Distribution – Fashola
User Avatar Forum: Retired Forums. Please Make Your Post Within The 3 Forums In General Discussion
Posted by: Edoman - 06-11-2018, 11:48 AM - No Replies

The Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola, has warned that the raining season will pose a major challenge to the transmission and distribution arms of the power industry.

According to him, although the rains will benefit hydro power stations, it will also pose some difficulties in the running of the distribution and transmission networks.

Fashola’s warning to operators in the sector was captured in the minutes of the 27th monthly meeting for stakeholders in the industry, which was obtained by our correspondent from the Federal Ministry of Power, Works and Housing in Abuja.

The minister “advised operators to prepare for the raining season, which would provide more water supply to the hydro stations and pose major challenges to transmission and distribution networks.”

In this regard, he appealed to the operators to promptly issue notices when there were known damages that would interfere with power supply and send maintenance team out to repair and replace damaged equipment or clear fallen trees.

The minister urged the operators to also send information to the public on multiple platforms of conventional and social media to report faults that they might not be aware of, adding that the operators should painstakingly resolve all customer complaints and provide better services where needed.

On remittances required for the generation of power through the Nigerian Bulk Electricity Trading Company, the minutes stated that the NBET received only 25.43 per cent payment from the distribution companies for the energy it received from the generation companies for the March 2018 cycle.

It stated that late payments from the January cycle amounting to 2.45 per cent of the March invoice was also received by the NBET, bringing the total payment percentage for February to 27.88 per cent.

The power distribution firms have continued to remit below 30 per cent of what is expected of them by the NBET, a development that has led to severe liquidity crisis in the sector.

“The NBET also received $6.9m in international customers’ payments from the market operator, which was paid to the generation companies,” the minutes added.

In its report, the market operator stated that the Discos received 81.95 per cent of the total energy sent out by the generation firms, while international customers and other direct customers received 8.08 per cent, thereby creating a transmission loss factor of 9.97 per cent in the month of March 2018.

Morning Devotional For Monday 11th June

RHAPSODY OF REALITIES

MONDAY, 11TH JUNE.

BELIEVE AND LIVE THE WORD.

But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves (James 1:22).
Many Christians have lived in the sense-realm for too long. If they feel a headache, the first thing that comes to their minds is the medication to take. They’re not conscious that they have power over sickness, disease, and infirmity; they’re not conscious that they have the divine life.

The Christian is a partaker of the divine nature; an associate of the God-kind. You have the very life of God in you; that makes you more than a mere man. Sickness really can’t, and shouldn’t thrive in your body, because Christ is the life of your physical body. His presence in you already gave life to your mortal body.

Why then are many still burdened with sickness and ravaged by one health issue or the other? The answer is clear: ignorance. The psalmist said, “They know not, neither will they understand…” (Psalm 82:5). Jesus said concerning the believing ones, “They shall takenup serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover” (Mark 16:18).

The above verse is a sovereign declaration of Deity; it’s a present-hour reality, guaranteed to produce results. Believe and act on it. Practise it for yourself, and on others. Believing the Word and acting accordingly is the way to make the Word effective in your life.

Faith is acting on the Word of God that you’ve believed. If there’s no action, then there’s no faith, and without faith, it’s impossible to please God. Faith is standing your ground on the reality of the Word.

Yes, hearing the Word produces faith in you, (Romans 10:17), but acting on it, living it out, is what causes you to excel, prosper, and make progress in life with giant strides.

PRAYER

I worship you, precious Lord, for your kindness and infinite mercies. Thank you for making me a partaker of the divine nature, an associate of the God-kind. Your life and nature in me makes me more than a mere man; I’m supernatural, excellent and full of glory. I walk in, and manifest the dominion of Christ today, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.

FURTHER STUDY:

James 1:22-25 But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves. 23 For if any be a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a glass: 24 For he beholdeth himself, and goeth his way, and straightway forgetteth what manner of man he was. 25 But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth [therein], he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed.

James 2:20-26 But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead? 21 Was not Abraham our father justified by works, when he had offered Isaac his son upon the altar? 22 Seest thou how faith wrought with his works, and by works was faith made perfect? 23 And the scripture was fulfilled which saith, Abraham believed God, and it was imputed unto him for righteousness: and he was called the Friend of God. 24 Ye see then how that by works a man is justified, and not by faith only. 25 Likewise also was not Rahab the harlot justified by works, when she had received the messengers, and had sent [them] out another way? 26 For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also.

#AFFIRMATIONTRAIN

11TH JUNE.

I affirm that the Word of God is alive in my spirit, soul, and body. I am alive unto God; i ve been ordained and set apart by the Spirit of God for greatness! As the Father is Himself the source of life, in the same way, He has made me the source of life. I am full of life and nothing is permitted to die in my hands.
This is my day, my season and my time; I am on stage now! Hallelujah! I am an offspring of the Word, and like Jesus, the devil has no place in me. I am endued with divine might, to win and reign in life as a king. Hallelujah!

The Rhema of God is in my heart and in my mouth today; and as I speak it forth, mountains are moved, hills are leveled, and the crooked paths are made straight before me. Nothing is impossible to me because the greater One lives in me. By His power, that is at work in, and through me; I create my victorious and prosperous life, from glory to glory. Hallelujah!
My words are not empty, they are filled with divine energies. The anointing of God’s Spirit is in my words; therefore, the words that I speak, they are spirit and they are life. My words will never fall to the ground without results. When I speak, angels are dispatched into action. Hallelujah! My words are quick and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword. With my words, I cut down every challenge and situation that is contrary to the provisions of the Kingdom for me. I can never be small or advantaged because I have chosen to generate life with my tongues. With my mouth, I make my way prosperous. Glory to God!

SPEAK IN OTHER TONGUES NOW

2019: 15 Governors, 80 Senators, Others Set To Battle Buhari- NewTelegraphOnline

Quote:By Onyekachi Eze ABUJA

Barring any last minute hitch, the coalition forces which intend to take over power from the All Progressives Congress (APC), and President Muhammadu Buhari, will take another giant step on Tuesday, June 12, as they will announce the platform of the political party on which to contest the 2019 elections.

Before then, the arrow heads of the coalition National Intervention Movement (NIM), Africa Democratic Congress (ADC), Labour Party (LP) Alliance for New Nigeria (ANN) and 10 others will meet tomorrow, to fine tune their strategies and agree on the draft Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), the presidential aspirant, as well as the name of the party under which they will contest in order to give the current APC-led administration a run for its money.

Also, they will be meeting all the presidential aspirants from all the other parties and movements who are desirous of wrestling power from the current administration. The meeting, which the conveners have said to be very crucial, is scheduled for the day which keeps recurring like a decimal in the anal of the nation’s politics.

On that day, they will decide on the party they would move to, in order to make their aspirations become a reality. “It is a very crucial meeting,” said a member of the movement, who did not want to be named.

They are going back to the negotiation table after the initial talks broke down. The breakdown was occasioned by their inability to agree on who would lead the party. The talks were held in Abeokuta and moved to Abuja. While a group pushed for a new order and a clean break from the old order, the other wanted anyone but Buhari.

Olagunsoye Oyinlola, a member of the Third Force, met with NIM chieftain, Abubakar Tafawa Balewa, both in Abeokuta and Abuja, but the talks broke down. The fresh negotiations, it was further gathered, would centre on how to face the common task.

They will attempt to put aside ego, engage one another in frank talk as well as agree on the manifesto, ideology and cardinal programme that can engage and sustain democratic ethos.

Our source, who said that they are leading a ‘revolution’, said they are not looking for a saint to lead them, but a credible platform. “No one is a saint or Satan. Ours is a revolutionary movement which would throw up leaders with conscience,” our source said.

For this, the movement has decided to make Olisa Agbakoba, former president, Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), as the face of the new breed political grouping.

Others are: Dr. (Mrs) Elishana, Allista Shoyode, Fela Durotoye, Thomas Ikubesin, Col.Abubakar Umar (rtd) and array of other stars.

A source familiar with the happenings in the coalition force said 80 senators (serving and non serving), 15 sitting and 25 ex governors, two former Speakers of the House of Representatives have all indicated their interests to be part of the talks.

Also, expected to be part of the negotiations, is the Liyel Imoke Committee of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), which the paper learnt may change its name and identity. “They are interfacing with us,” the source volunteered.

The Obasanjo men, the Sunday Telegraph further gathered, are back to the negotiating table, where the talk would culminate into a Grand National consolidation team.

Most of the national actors spoken to distanced themselves from the talk, especially those of the ruling party. This was as a result of a back lash from their party. “They are careful not to associate with us openly,” said our source. “But they have agreed to work behind the scenes and give the new breed all the necessary support.”

It is after this that they will come out with the manifesto and ideology which is absent in the current dispensation. “It is an aberration for the chairman of a party who does not know anything to come from nowhere and be the leader of the party. This is one of the areas we want to make the difference,” our source explained.

Spokesman of the NIM, Mallam Naseer Kura, confirmed the talks. He said that the NIM is interested in rescuing the country from going into a precipice. For this, they want to make it an all-inclusive.

“We want the best for Nigeria. We want those who have the experience, the expertise and to start afresh. We want to stop recycling of those who have contributed to the rot in Nigeria.”
In the meantime, PDP is calculating how it would manage its success in the elections.

The party, which last month, inaugurated a Contact and Integration Committee charged with the responsibility of reaching out to other political parties and individuals who might be willing to forge alliance with it in the 2019 general elections, said absorbing new members who might join it from other political parties may not pose a problem because it has a political arrangement that ensures equitable devolution of powers.

The committee, which has former Governor of Cross River State, Senator Liyel Imoke as its chairman, was initially given two weeks to complete its assignment, but later requested for an extension of time.

Though the mandate was to discuss with other political parties for either alliance or to be absorbed into the PDP, a party source, however, revealed that the major target was aggrieved members of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), especially former PDP members (nPDP) who defected to APC before the 2015 general elections.

“We want them back, and the committee is to discuss with them, articulate their demands and report to the party leadership,” the source said.

He added that the delay in the submission of the committee’s report is the APC’s convention, which has been shifted to June 23.

PDP National Publicity Secretary, Kola Ologbondiyan, was not forthcoming on why the committee is delaying to turn in its report.

But he however admitted that the delay is on “the number of Nigerians in APC who want to leave the party either as groups or as individuals” who he said “are too large for our committee to complete its job just within two weeks.

“Also, don’t forget that the committee is going to engage other political parties, and you know the number of political parties we have in Nigeria today. So it is not an easy task.”

Ologbondiyan said Nigerians are more than united and ready to rally round PDP to rescue the country from the APC led Federal Government.

“We want all democrats in Nigeria to join the Peoples Democratic Party and kick out this incompetent government,” he requested.

Asked how the party would be able to manage its victory if PDP wins in 2019, given the crisis that has dogged the APC since 2015, the party spokesperson said that the PDP is a well restructured party.

“The Peoples Democratic Party is in existence for more than 20 years. Its organs are well defined and the functionalities are clear. People who are coming, either in form of alliances or to formally merge with the party, are coming into a party that is formidable, that has structures, that its organs are functioning.

“As a result of that, the issue of engagement will be in the areas of elections and the ability to oust the incompetence of the APC and its Federal Government.

PDP is super good when it comes to the issues of power engagement. We have used the issue of geopolitical zones arrangement as a form of devolution of power effectively,” he boasted.
Despite the confidence of the party to return to power next year, people are still leaving the PDP to other parties.

But Ologbondiyan said this would not affect the fortunes of PDP.

He said the advantage PDP has over other parties is its consistency, but quickly added that the nation’s democracy is still evolving unlike the United States of America and the United Kingdom where people are known, even by families, to parties.

“Parties that started with PDP 20 years ago, some of them are hardly remembered today, but PDP has survived it. APC came. Where are they today?” he asked.

On the relationship with other opposition parties, Ologbondiyan said that Senator Imoke’s Committee has been engaging and discussing with other opposition parties.

Kogi Borrowed Billions From Banks Despite Paris Club Refund & Bailouts (Photos)

The Kogi state government obtained loans of at least N16 billion between May 2017 and January 2018, TheCable can report. This is despite over N20 billion which accrued to the state from the Paris Club refund.

Quote:Paris Club refund is a partial settlement of long-standing claims by state governments relating to over-deductions from their federation account allocation committee (FAAC) disbursement for external debt service arising between 1995 and 2002.
In the first tranche of the refund, the state got N11.21bn, while it got N6.02bn and over N6 billion in the second and third tranches respectively.

Kogi also benefitted from the bailout which the federal government gave to states.
However, documents seen by TheCable showed that the state house of assembly approved loans of N12 billion and another 1.2 billion on December 5, 2017. Still in December, the government borrowed a separate N1.2 billion from Fidelity Bank Plc.

Quote:The state’s ministry of finance had entered an agreement with the bank that 123,250,244 million should be deducted from from its revenue over a 12-month period.vWhen he met with reporters in January, Yahaya Bello, governor of the state, said his government borrowed N10 billion, a figure short of N4.4 billion that his government had collected as loan.

Documents show that Kogi got another loan of N3.5 billion on January 31, 2018.
On March 20, 2018, the state treasury quarters issued an irrevocable standing payment order (ISPO) to Zenith Bank to make monthly deductions of N236,892,000 from its Lokoja bank account over a period of 18 months, as repayment of the N3.5vbillion loan which was said to be used for budget implementation.

Quote:Critics have accused the current administration in the state of mismanaging resources, an allegation the governor and his aides have consistently denied. Although part of the obtained loans were said to be for payment of salaries, Kogi is still owing workers till date. On Thursday, the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) wrote to the International Labour Organisation (ILO) to protest the alleged non-payment of over seven months salary by the state.

Kingsley Fanwo, Bello’s spokesman, was not available for comments when this report was filed as as his telephone line was switched off.

Plot To Detain Obasanjo Is Real - Fani Kayode, Releases List Of Other Targets
User Avatar Forum: Retired Forums. Please Make Your Post Within The 3 Forums In General Discussion
Posted by: Edoman - 06-10-2018, 09:13 PM - No Replies

@POLITICSNGR

Former Aviation Minister, Chief Femi Fani Kayode has released a statement on the recent alarm raised by the ex-president, Olusegun Obasanjo, alleging that there was a plot to detain and frame him by the Federal government.

FFK, in a statement made available to PoliticsNGR, alleged that the Presidency had finalized plans to give other opposition leaders the 'Nnamdi Kanu' treatment. Below is his statement in full;

"I have read the disturbing reports about the Buhari administration's plan to frame up, arrest and detain President Olusegun Obasanjo on trumped up and politically-motivated charges.

It has also been brought to my attention that they have threatened his life.

Though I am not surprised because this is nothing new for this government. That is their stock in trade and they have been doing it for the last three years to anyone and everyone that opposes or criticises them.

What bothers me now is that President Buhari has become so jittery that he is prepared to do anything to stay in power. I have done my research and I have discovered that the plan is real.

The government are also planning to target other key opposition figures and elder statesmem as we get closer to 2019 such as General T.Y. Danjuma, General Ibrahim Babangida, President Goodluck Jonathan and a handful of others.

It appears that Buhari will stop at nothing in order to ensure that all his critics are silenced.

The plan to implicate and silence all these leaders together with key figures in the PDP like

Ayo Fayose,

Emmanuel Udom,

Ibrahim Dankwabo,

Nyesome Wike,

Darius Ishaku,

Godswill Akpabio,

David Mark,

Ike Ekweremadu,

Lyle Imoke,

Uche Secondus,

Sule Lamido,

Ibrahim Shekarau,

Abubakar Suleiman,

Kabiru Turaki,

David Jang,

Atiku Abubakar,

Dele Belgore,

Jumoke Akinjide,

Nenadi Usman and others is condemnable.

They also plan to give some of us the Nnamdi Kanu treatment and make us dissapear or give us the Sambo Dasuki and El Zak Zaky treatment and lock us up indefinately but they will fail.

Such is Buhari's desperation that he is even attempting to discredit and destroy key members of his own party like

Bukola Saraki,

Yakubu Dogara,

Dino Melaye,

Rabiu Kwankwaso,

Abubakar Baraje,

Aminu Tambuwal,

Abdul Fatah Ahmed,

Timi Frank and others.

Nobody is safe anymore, not even legislators, media houses, journalists, bloggers, religious organisations or NGO's that oppose or criticise the Federal Government.

Nigeria is fast becoming a fascist police state where dissent is seen as a crime and where those that oppose the President are perceived as enemies of the state and prisoners of war.

They forget that we have a divine obligation and patriotic duty to oppose evil and tyranny in the land and nothing will make us shirk that responsibility.

Let it be clearly understood that we will not sit by idly and allow Buhari to continue to threaten, harrass and intimdate all those who oppose him. We are not intimidated and we have no fear. Governments come and go and no matter what he does Buhari will not be there forever.

Taking this matter to a level of threatening the lives and liberty of people like Obasanjo, Danjuma, Babangida, Jonathan and other elder statemen and seeking to destroy key opposition figures for no just cause is dangerous and unacceptable and it will have consequences.

We do not want war in Nigeria: we want peace and the Buhari government should desist from provoking a situation and a series of events that may end up spiralling out of control.

It is almost as if they are begging for war and that is tragic. They may have the full machinery and power of the Federal Government but we have the Living God. Nothing can stop us in our divine mission to stop him and rescue Nigeria.

The truth is that any untoward or irrational course of action will be met with a corresponding and appropiate reaction which may have dire implications for the peace and unity of our nation.

This game must be played within the rules of engagement or else all hell will eventually break lose. Buhari must be warned.

Peace, fair play and justice must be allowed to reign in our nation and those that oppose the President must be treated with the respect, decency and decorum that they deserve.

They are not enemies of the state and prisoners of war but law-abiding and patriotic Nigerians that have no faith in him and that wish to rescue Nigeria from his tyranny. There is no crime in that and they do not deserve to be killed or to be locked up for it".

Five men gang-raped us….invited friends to also `come and eat free meal’ – Two teenag
User Avatar Forum: Other Stories

BIZARRE! That’s the word to describe the gang-raping of two teenage girls by men old enough to be their fathers in Ondo town. *Suspects: Olabanji, Abiodun, Fadairo, Bode and Adedayo Ondo has been in the news in recent times for bad reasons. It is seen in many quarters as the haven for youths and men of questionable character. If road transport workers in the town are not killing themselves over leadership tussle, cult members, in supremacy battle, are hacking each other to death in broad daylight. The latest bad news from Ondo is the gang-rape of two girls by five men who also videotaped the crime scene and posted it on social media to further debase their victims. The alleged rapists are identified as Olabanji Femi, Abiodun Ayodele, Fadairo Wahab, Bode Akinsiku and Adedayo Adebayo. Sunday Vanguard learnt that the suspects, now in prison custody, tortured the girls before they were gang-raped and mindlessly invited some other men to have sex with the girls. Notable personalities in the town, including the Osemawe of Ondo, Oba Victor Kiladejo, have condemned the act while traditionalists in the town rose to appease the gods of the land for the abomination. Police sources said the suspects, during interrogation, alleged that the girls stole from one of them after they were invited for a party. As a punishment, the suspects were said to have decided to torture, gang- rape and videotape the scene and posted the recording on the social media. Meanwhile, according to the sources, the girls denied the allegation of theft levelled against them by the suspects. Four girls had been reportedly lured to a party at the residence of one of the suspects. All of the four turned up but two sensed danger and left almost immediately. The two girls, who stayed, it was gathered, were the ones who allegedly became victims of the alleged inhuman treatment by the suspects. In a statement to the police, the victims denied stealing from any of the suspects, saying they were invited to a party organised by the daughter of one of the suspects and that, on getting there, they discovered that it was a trap to get back at them for turning down sexual advances from members of a group in the town. One of them disclosed that after the five men took turns to rape them, they invited their friends by phone to come and “eat free meal”. According to her, the suspects accused them of refusing the sexual advances of their group members while sleeping with less important group members in the town hence the need to disgrace them by posting the recording on the social media. The victims said they could barely walk thereafter because of what the suspects did to them, pointing out that they were equally flogged and tortured. One of them said, “They stripped us naked, seized our clothes and recorded the rape scene. They threatened to take us to the street naked. “They lured us to the area around noon, held us hostage for several hours during which they did all that pleased them with us. They freed us in the evening and we reported the matter to one of my brothers who vowed to get the video and report the matter to the police. “Though family members of the suspects begged us and promised to pay us huge sums of money for the rape and torture we were subjected to, my brother got the video recording and reported the matter to the police”. The brother of the victim who reported the alleged rape to the police (name withheld) told Sunday Vanguard that, following the suspects’ arrest, he had been receiving threat messages allegedly from the suspects’ backers. He, however, said that he was ready to testify against the suspects in court, adding that he had the video recording of the rape scene. Ondo State Police Command corroborated the victim’s brother’s claim when it alleged that some powerful individuals were making efforts to frustrate the matter by threatening witnesses. Command spokesperson Femi Joseph confirmed the pressure from powerful groups in the town. “We are facing a lot of pressure on the matter”, he told Sunday Vanguard. Joseph said that some “powerful forces in the town” were doing everything possible to frustrate the case “but the command is determined to get justice for the raped girls”. “They have tried so much to kill the case but we did not allow that. Now they are working behind the scenes to ensure that they (victims) don’t come to court with the hope that if they don’t come to court, the case would die a natural death”, he added. “But we assure that the case will be prosecuted and the girls will be adequately protected to ensure that they are present in court. We will ensure their presence in court at the next date of adjournment. “The girls are not in police custody but safe. “They have been deliberately taken away from the public glare so as not to be accessible to the people who are pressurising them. “The girls are not missing. We are facing a lot of pressure on their matter, but, on our part, we are assuring of their safety, nothing will happen to them. This is a case of national interest and we need them to diligently prosecute the case”. Meanwhile, traditionalists in Ondo, last week, sealed off the gang-rape suspects’ houses in the town. The development, it was learnt, was to appease the gods over the alleged abominable act. Sunday Vanguard gathered that before the sealing off of the houses of the suspects, the traditionalists had converged on a traditional spot at Sora Street in the town where they offered appeasement prayers. The traditionalists, including women, reportedly chased out residents of the houses and used palm fronds to barricade the entrance. They chanted incantations while performing the rites. The traditionalists were said to have been concerned about the rape of teenagers in the town. One of the traditionalists, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, said, “If you watch the gang-rape video, you will agree that it is a taboo to sexually assault a girl not only in Ondo town but also in Yoruba land. We have been hearing stories of rape in our community. We don’t want a repeat of such an ungodly act.” He commended the Osemawe -in- Council for approving the traditional rites and the sealing-off of the suspects’ houses while lauding participants for “their patriotism and love for the community”. According to him, the video recording of the gang-rape, apart from going viral on the Internet, the Osemawe-in-Council had received several calls on the issue. He explained that the action of the traditionalists was also to forestall what he described as such ungodly attitude among youths of Ondo. “We were so much worried when we heard that the whereabouts of the girls were unknown. It was said that they had been taken away from the community by unknown persons apparently to stall trial. It was also rumoured that the principal suspect had been released from detention”, the traditionalist said. He called on the police, the judiciary and other stakeholders in law enforcement to ensure justice on the matter. In the meantime, the suspects have been ordered to be remanded in police custody by a Chief Magistrate Court sitting in Ondo. The charges against them are conspiracy, rape, defamation of character, torture and videotaping nakedly.   Related Ondo traditionalists seal houses of 5 men that raped, video-taped teenage girls May 30, 2018 5 remanded in prison custody for rape, torture, videotaping teenage girls May 23, 2018 Untold story of how kidnap kingpin, ‘General’ Ossy was killed •Confusion, doubts reign in the creeks May 6, 2017 EMMANUEL OKOGBA View all posts by Emmanuel Okogba → PREVIOUS POST Herdsmen kill because they are criminally-minded, Benue people tell Defense Minister Ali NEXT POST Crisis rears its head in APC because there is rule of law — Cairo Ojuogboh Disclaimer Comments expressed here do not reflect the opinions of vanguard newspapers or any employee thereof. The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has alerted the public over the collapse of a bridge after Mowo Junction on the Mokwa-Jebba road, due to heavy rainfall.

The Corps Public Education Officer, Mr Bisi Kazeem, issued the alert in Abuja on Sunday morning.

He said the bridge, which is 18 kilometre from Mokwa town in Niger state, caved-in following a downpour.

“Vehicular movement from both sides of the road is affected.

“Motorists are advised to take Lokoja road if going to Lagos and Abuja in the interim,” Kazeem said.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the Mokwa-Jebba Road is a major transit route for travelers between Abuja and Ilorin.

UNIJOS Erroneously Awards First Class Degrees To Law Graduands
User Avatar Forum: Universities
Posted by: Edoman - 06-10-2018, 05:02 PM - No Replies

Quote:Nearly 20 graduands from the Department of Law at the University of Jos have been erroneously awarded First Class degrees by the university, PREMIUM TIMES can report.

The error, which occurred on the university’s convocation ceremony web portal, saw several graduands of the department’s 2015/2016 academic session bagging First Class degrees.

The 2015/2016 set of Law students at the university produced only one First Class graduand, Olusegun Pelumi Adewunmi.

Ahead of the university’s convocation ceremony on June 23, the graduands were instructed to check the website to ensure their information were correct.

Several graduands from the Law Department who spoke to PREMIUM TIMES said they logged on to discover they had been awarded a higher class of degree.

“I have a 2.1 (Second Class Upper Division) but my class of degree on that page was First Class,” one of the graduands who requested not to be named said.

“I saw it yesterday and I tried correcting it. I was thinking it was the NUC, there was a time they were trying to reduce the grading system like those people on 4 points, First Class, so I was thinking maybe that was what happened.

“I tried communicating with some of my mates in class and they said it was an error.”

Another graduand, Collins Elechi, said it’s likely to be a clerical error.

“Prior to now everybody knew their classes of degree,” said Mr Elechi, who also graduated with a Second Class Upper but saw ‘First Class’ on the university’s website.
“It shouldn’t be that way, it should be corrected. I understand it’s a human system and sometimes these things happen, I like people to be given benefit of doubt.”
When contacted, Clement Dakkas, the Dean of the Faculty of Law, described it as “strange.”

“This is news to me,” Mr Dakkas, a professor of Law, told PREMIUM TIMES.

“Matters of this nature are addressed by the Registrar, but my recollection is that you know in the entire history of the university, we have produced only three First Class in Law. The first in 1980, the second in 1990 – and incidentally I was the second in 1990 – and then one young man, I think, a year ago.

“So to have more than one clearly there must be an error somewhere.”

Ishaya Tanko, a professor and the university’s Director of ICT, said he was unaware of the development.
“What I’m going to do is I’m going to report now, I’ll take that up and get the appropriate authorities to confirm.”

APC Parallel Excos Plan Mass Defection
User Avatar Forum: Retired Forums. Please Make Your Post Within The 3 Forums In General Discussion
Posted by: Edoman - 06-10-2018, 04:52 PM - No Replies

Quote:JOHN ALECHENU, OLUFEMI ATOYEBI, IHUOMA CHIEDOZIE and PETER DADA

The All Progressives Congress leaders who organised parallel congresses which produced separate executives in some states are planning a mass defection if the Odigie-Oyegun-led National Working Committee of the party fails to address their grievances.

Investigations by SUNDAY PUNCH correspondents in the affected states showed that while some state factions of the APC were perfecting strategies to dump the party, others preferred to remain within the system and work for other parties’ candidates.

In Oyo State, the Unity Forum, largely made up of the late governor Lam Adesina’s loyalists, Adebayo Shittu’s group, some aggrieved loyalists of Governor Abiola Ajimobi and those who defected from the Peoples Democratic Party and Accord Party, have vowed to defect en masse soon.

The spokesperson for the group, Wasiu Olatubosun, said although the group had approached the court to seek redress, arrangements were being made to pull out of the party in case the state government manipulates the court process.

He said, “We are aware that the governor and his people have been saying the judiciary is an annex of the executive and that we cannot defeat him there.

“This group is not politically inconsequential. If he has the judiciary in his pocket and believes that everyone has a price, he cannot control who we associate with. We have a plan B.

“We are aware that some people will stay back in the party because they hold one position or the other. What matters is for us to go for a credible platform where we can prove that we are not inconsequential. We proved to him that we are relevant during the by-election in Ibarapa East last week.

“The government spent almost N100m on that by-election but the party candidate lost by a wide margin. There is an election pattern that was jettisoned and that was the reason for the failure.”

However in Ondo State, the factional group within the APC has vowed to take a definite action against the disqualification of their congresses held in the state by the party’s NWC.

The group, which had its parallel ward, local and state congresses disqualified, described the action of the national leadership of the party as unfair and unacceptable.

Speaking with one of our correspondents, the factional chairman, Mr. Idowu Otetubi, insisted that the group produced the authentic state executive because it conducted a proper congress.

He said, “We are definitely going to take action. In very few days to this time, you will see what will happen. I won’t say more than that for now; just wait.

“This is our party, we are not going to leave the party for anyone. It is an internal crisis but we are going to fight the injustice, just wait and see what will happen in the next few days.”

One of the ring leaders of the group, however, told one of our correspondents in confidence that they were already considering a mass exodus from the party.

In Enugu State, the Deacon Okey Ogbodo-led APC faction had already gone to court to restrain the NWC from recognising Dr. Ben Nwoye as the chairman of the party in the state.

An Enugu Federal High Court had made an interim order restraining the APC national leadership from recognising Nwoye as the Enugu State chairman, pending the determination of a suit filed by the Ogbodo’s camp.

In defiance to the ruling, the party’s national chairman, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, inaugurated Nwoye.

The court has fixed June 26 to deliver judgment in the matter.

The spokesperson for the Ogbodo faction, Mr. Melvin Onuora, said his group was waiting for the court to determine the matter.

He said, “There is nothing like inauguration, what happened was nothing but an attempt to scuttle the court order.

“Now that the court has given a date for the judgment, we will wait until the court decides but we are confident.

“As far as we are concerned, there was no inauguration. We are waiting for the court to decide.”

The factional spokesman was, however, silent on whether his group would consider leaving the party, though sources among them said they were ready to quit in order to protest the injustice.

Onuora insisted that they would continue to push their case in court until ‘justice’ was done.

The factional chairman of the APC in Kano State, Haruna Doguwa, said he was waiting for the party’s national secretariat to make pronouncements on the fate of his executive before directing his members to take necessary actions.

Party goes tough on parallel state excos

Meanwhile, the National Working Committee of the APC has perfected strategies to go tough on party members who are parading themselves as parallel state executives.

It was learnt that any errant member, who resorted to litigation, could be expelled by the party.

SUNDAY PUNCH gathered in Abuja on Saturday that except Rivers, Delta, Oyo and Taraba states, where a committee headed by the party’s Deputy National Chairman (North), Senator Lawal Shuaibu, is expected to lead reconciliatory efforts, the party might invoke the provisions of Article 21 of the APC Constitution (2014) as amended.

A member of the party’s leadership, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said, “Without discipline, it is impossible to run a political party.

“I think the era of platitudes and playing politics of appeasement is gone. We don’t have time. Our national convention is just a few weeks away. So, the question of holding another congress is out of it.

“We are aware that there are individuals who, no matter what you do, they have made up their minds to leave the party. But, we will continue to engage them in talks; perhaps some will see reason and remain.”

He argued that those who conducted parallel congresses acted contrary to the provisions of the party’s constitution, adding that appeasement was out of the question.

When contacted, the National Publicity Secretary of the APC, Bolaji Abdullahi, said the party expected all its members to obey its constitution and play the game of politics by the rules.

He explained that the NWC set up the congress and appeal committees for each state, and that the least the party expected of members, who were dissatisfied with the congress, was to take the matter up with the appeal panel.

Abdullahi said the appeal panel would submit a report to the NWC which had the final say on such issues.

He noted that there was little, if anything, that the party could do for aggrieved members who ignored this procedure.

In response to a question on the fate of parallel state executives, the party spokesperson said the recent inauguration of state chairman had put the matter to rest.
