Gunmen Kill Director Of Dangote Cement Plant In Ethiopia
User Avatar Forum: Other Stories

@APROKOGIRL

Unidentified gunmen have killed the manager of a plant owned by Nigeria’s Dangote Industries Limited in Ethiopia on Wednesday after he was attacked in the restive Oromiya region while returning to the capital from the factory, officials said.
Oromiya, which surrounds the capital Addis Ababa, was plagued by violence for over two years, largely fueled by a sense of political and economic marginalisation among its young population.

Hundreds died in the violence that was triggered in 2015 by demonstrations over land rights, before they broadened into rallies over freedoms that spread to other regions.

“The company’s director died following an attack by unknown gunmen that took place while returning from the factory alongside two company employees,” a government statement said.

“Security forces are currently pursuing the assailants,” it added.

The statement called on residents in the area to help gather details.

Representatives of the company in Nigeria were not immediately available for comment.

It was not immediately clear whether it was the company’s country representative or the plant manager who died in the attack.

During the unrest, some vehicles belonging to the firm were torched by protesters.

Company heads have been in discussions with the region’s authourities to boost employment opportunities.

The plant – Ethiopia’s largest cement producer – was inaugurated in May 2015.

The country remains under a state of emergency imposed in February, a day after prime minister Hailemariam Desalegn resigned.

Former army officer Abiy Ahmed has since replaced him.

Since taking over amid the unrest that threatened the ruling coalition’s tight grip, Abiy has vowed “a new political beginning” including more democratic rights.

Thousands have been released since January, including journalists and dissidents who have been jailed for a variety of charges including terrorism.

Governors Accuse NNPC Of Fraud In Payment Of Subsidy

Governors demand closure of filling stations in border communities, accuse NNPC of fraud in payment of subsidy

Quote:State governors have accused the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) of fraudulently doubling the nation’s daily petrol consumption from about 30 million to 60 million litres.

The governors made this known on Wednesday after a delegation led by Abdulaziz Yari, chairman of the Nigerian Governors’ Forum (NGF) and governor of Zamfara state, met with Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo at the presidential villa in Abuja.

At the meeting, the governors demanded a thorough probe of oil subsidy payments from 2015 to date, while they demanded that all petrol stations less than 10 kilometres to the nation’s borders be immediately shut.

This followed NNPC’s excuse that the sudden hike in petrol consumption is due to illegal export to neighbouring countries.

As part of their demands, all trucks transporting petroleum products must have tracking device installed in order to monitor their movement to discharge stations and that NNPC must henceforth clearly differentiate its earnings in sales as against taxes before remitting funds to the federation account to avoid unexplained shortfalls.

In attendance at the meeting were Udom Emmanuel , governor of Akwa Ibom state; Godwin Obaseki, governor of Edo state; Seriake Dickson, governor of Bayelsa state; Nasir el-Rufai of Kaduna and Atiku Bagudu, governor of Kebbi state.

Kemi Adeosun, minister of finance and Udo Udoma, minister of budget and national planning, as well as a representative of the NNPC GMD, also attended the meeting which ended at few minutes after 8pm.

While briefing state house correspondents at the end of the meeting, Yari said, “This is the second time we are meeting with NNPC in respect of remittances into the federation account.

Governors and the federal government are not satisfied with the way remittances are being made because there are so many questions raised on Nigeria, more especially on the 425,000 barrel domestic and 180,000 barrel component of Nigeria from the Joint Venture Partners,” he said.

“We met last week with NNPC and we came and briefed our chairman of the National Economic Council (NEC). We raised three issues: one, the issue of royalties. Each and every barrel taken out of the country, there is either 17 or 24 percent of it as royalty and there is 17 or 20 percent as tax.

“So, our main concern is that (DPR) said that the NNPC is not remitting anything from the payment of royalty; what they do is that they transmit direct from the NNPC to the federation account, which is not allowed by the law.

“According the law that established the DPR, section 196 of the Act, says all the royalty should be paid to DPR and then transmitted to the federation account, which is not happening.

“So, we discussed today and we have sorted those ones out. The NNPC will not transmit to federation account with clear distinction that this amount is for royalty and X amount is for taxes, and X amount is profits from the sales. So we achieved that.”

The governors also raised concerns over the joint venture cash call claims made by the NNPC and directed that further payments for such should be suspended until the corporation gives details of exactly how much has been paid since 2015.

“At the same time, NNPC is making payment on behalf of Nigeria on cash-call contribution and also the NNPC is making payment of cash call arrears of Nigeria’s contribution.

But our main concern is that in 2015, they said about $16.8 billion which is outstanding was not paid by the last administration and they negotiated it down to $5.1 billion according to them,” he said.

“What we said specifically is that they should bring to us how much they have paid from 2015 to date and what is outstanding. And we directed them to stop payment until the claims are proven and then we can give further directives. That too was achieved.

“On the issue of cost recovery otherwise called subsidy, it resurfaced again after the efforts of Mr. President. Before now, the oil was $40 per barrel and now it is about $78 a barrel, they are depending largely on importation. Therefore, the cost is higher than what they are selling at the filling station and they need more money.

“When there was no cost recovery, the NNPC clearly gave us the number of 33 and 35 million litres per day as the consumption of Nigeria. But now with the new regime of cost recovery, NNPC is claiming daily consumption of 60 and 65 million litres per day, which we rejected and said no.

“So, many of our international partners are saying that even if we are feeding Nigeria, Cameroon, Ghana and Niger, we cannot consume more than 35 million litres per day. So, we are wondering where the 60 million litres is coming from. So, we are trying to sort that one out; that one is not yet resolved.

“But, we are now taking a very hard decision; because NNPC said the reason why they were lifting 60 million per day is because our borders are porous, we have taken the decision that any filling station that is 10 kilometres on the border side should be closed by DPR. And then, we will do re-certification according to the needs.

Secondly, we have directed the minister of finance in collaboration with the DPR and the NNPC to put tracking devices on every truck in other to monitor where they are discharging the fuel.

That is because we are suspicious of the number; we cannot confirm the difference from 30 million litres per day consumption to 60 and 65 million litres per day. So, these are our decisions on the NNPC.”

Osinbajo: The Only Reason I Would Resign, I Didn’t Beg To Be VP
User Avatar Forum: Retired Forums. Please Make Your Post Within The 3 Forums In General Discussion

Quote:John Alechenu and John Charles

Vice - President Yemi Osinbajo on Tuesday night said he would rather vacate his office as the nation ’ s Number Two man than compromise his Christian faith .

Osinbajo stated this while responding to posers raised by some Christian leaders at the stakeholders ’ meeting held at the new Banquet Hall of the Benue State Government House , Makurdi .

He said under no circumstances would he give up his faith but would rather vacate his position as the nation ’ s Vice- President at the slightest attempt to cause him to abandon his Christian virtues .

One of the speakers , the Catholic Bishop of Gboko, His Lordship , Williams Avenya , had reminded Osinbajo of the then- presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress , Muhammadu Buhari ’ s campaign promises that he would not Islamise the country and would protect the interest of all Nigerians including citizens of minority ethnic groups if voted into power.

Quoting Buhari , the bishop said , “My deputy is a Christian and there is no way I will Islamise Nigeria with many Christians in my team . ”

Avenya noted that the killing of Christians and members of the minority ethnic group particularly in Benue State had proved that the Federal Government under Buhari was not living up to these promises.

Facing Osinbajo , the bishop said , “ The point I’ m trying to make is that a day is going to come when you , as the Vice -President , will bear the brunt of that problem of injustices in our land , especially those perpetrated on smaller ethnic groups that have no one to fight for them .

“ So , as a Christian person , exonerate yourself from this situation, ” the bishop advised the VP .

Responding, the vice- president said , “My Lord Bishop , you said you are not a politician , I am also not a politician . As a matter of fact , I’ m also a priest and I ’ m a Christian , a born again Christian . Because I’ m a born again Christian , my destiny is not determined by any man but by God who I serve .

“Let me assure you that under no circumstances , none whatsoever, will I give up my faith or refuse to stand up for my faith .

“ You can take that to the bank . Even the position that I currently occupy, I did not ask for it and I’ m prepared to leave it at a short notice .

“ It doesn ’ t mean anything . I became a born again Christian after I became a professor , a professor of the law of evidence, a professor of proof .

“ But when the Lord Jesus Christ met me , He persuaded me by showing me clearly that there is such a thing as the evidence of things that are not seen.

“ It is because of the evidence of things that are not seen, it is because you can make something out of nothing that I stand here today as Vice -President .

“ How possible can anyone say that the killing of women and children doesn ’ t matter because he is Vice - President or because he is President ? How is that possible ? Certainly , it cannot be for a person who is born again. A renewed mind will know that there is justice , there is consequence even if there is no justice here on earth . ”

The Vice - President , while reacting to the issue raised by another speaker , Dr . Magdalene Dura , that the invasion of the state was an ethnic agenda , said no one would deliberately kill his own people .

“ I do not accept and I do not believe that there is an agenda . No one will deliberately kill his own people . No one will do so . But we cannot bring back the dead but we can make life more bearable for the living.

“ This is why coming here today at the behest of the President is first , to look at the situation myself , to get a first -hand view of the situation because the President has mandated me to take this on board and deal with the issues , ” Osinbajo added .

In his remark , Governor Samuel Ortom appealed to the Federal Government to ensure that peace reign in his state.
The governor said that the killing of the two Catholic priests and 17 parishioners could have caused a religious crisis but for the prompt action of his administration .

He appreciated the Federal Government for deploying more troops to the state as well as releasing funds for control of flood in the state .

Desperation casts a shadow on your Christianity , PDP tells VP

Meanwhile , the Peoples Democratic Party has described Osinbajo ’ s visit to Benue State as an act of desperation and an attempt to “swindle votes ” ahead of the 2019 general elections.

The party , which said this in a statement signed by its Deputy National Publicity Secretary , Mr. Emmanuel Agbo, in Abuja , on Wednesday , noted that Osinbajo ’ s alleged desperation to be Buhari ’ s running mate in 2019 “ casts doubt publicly on his professed Christian faith . ”

According to the party , the Vice - President ’ s visit to Abagana , Gbajimba and Anyii Internally Displaced Persons ’ camps was political .

Agbo described it as “a political attempt at window dressing the already damaged image of President Muhammadu Buhari ’ s administration and an insult to the grieving people of Benue State. ”

The PDP statement partly read , “ Osinbajo did not visit the people of Benue when two priests and 17 parishioners were killed , neither does he agree that the herdsmen who killed 73 Christians in the state are terrorists .

“It is pathetic that while Osinbajo speaks loudly against former President Goodluck Jonathan and the opposition, he remained voiceless until our people were made refugees in their own land .

“ Since the news of the cabal ’ s plan to pick a new running mate for Buhari ahead of the 2019 presidential election became public knowledge , Osinbajo has since shown a level of desperation that casts doubt publicly on his professed Christian faith . ”

The statement added , “ Osinbajo ’ s promise during his visit to the IDP camps in the state that President Buhari has approved a total of N10 bn for the rehabilitation of communities affected by violent attacks in parts of the country, further shows that the Federal Government is totally disconnected from the people .

“ This shameless act affirms that Buhari ’ s administration fail to realise that money cannot replace or buy back the lives lost to the reckless slaughter of innocent citizens by Fulani extremists .

“ By this dishonest act , the Buhari administration has only added insult to the injury of Benue people . The Buhari - led Federal Government who promised N 50bn for states who donate land for Fulani herdsmen in the name of colony unfortunately has only N 10bn for all those internally displaced farmers that cut across more than 13 states in the country. ”

The party which described the N 10bn as “blood money ” said the VP and the President should “eat ” the money , arguing that the life of one Benue citizen was worth more than the money .

“Let it be on record that the people of Benue will not be deceived by those who impoverished our people and watched us bury our sons and daughters while they gave nothing but excuses , ” the statement added .

Thumbs Up Forte Oil Plc: Releases 1st Quarter Result, Plans To Divest Subsidiaries
User Avatar Forum: Oil/Gas

Decent Q1’18 numbers buoyed by Power earningsSelling all subsidiaries, retaining flagship fuel retailing businessPower business divestment comes as surpriseTargets 6-9 months to complete the proposed restructuringTotal deregulation of downstream sector very key post-divestmentMixed earnings trajectory, valuation revised lower on liquidity challenges

Decent Q1’18 numbers buoyed by Power earnings

FO’s Q1’18 numbers were quite decent, beating our estimates across most line items. Meanwhile, the mixed performance across the company’s business segments persisted in Q1’18. Despite reporting an impressive 14% y/y increase in Revenue to ₦25.8 billion (Vetiva: ₦20.7 billion), the Fuel Retailing segment (largest segment – accounts for 65% of group revenue) reported a 29% y/y decline in Gross Profit (₦1.9 billion vs. Vetiva: ₦2.1 billion) as the tough operating environment in the petroleum downstream sector continued to pressure margins. Performance of the Production Chemicals segment (smallest segment – accounts for c.1% of revenue) was also weak, reporting a 16% y/y decline in Gross Profit to ₦0.2 billion following a 17% y/y Revenue decline.

Bucking the trend, however, the Lubricant & Grease segment (9% of Revenue and 3rd largest segment) reported a 16% y/y increase in Gross Profit to ₦0.7 billion amidst a 7% Revenue growth to ₦3.5 billion. Also, the Power Generation segment (2nd largest segment – accounting for 25% Revenue) remained the key driver of earnings growth, reporting a 72% y/y increase in Gross Profit to ₦4.1 billion (Vetiva: ₦3.5 billion) on the back of a strong topline performance (up 54% to ₦10.1 billion). Notably, the contribution from the Power Business accounted for 60% of the Group’s gross profit. Overall, Q1’18 Group Revenue rose 21% y/y to ₦39.8 billion whilst Gross Profit was up 17% y/y to ₦6.8 billion – 15% and 8% ahead of our estimates respectively. With OPEX coming in flat y/y (16% better than estimate) and net finance expense declining 23% y/y (in line with estimate), Q1’18 PBT rose 54% y/y and 38% ahead of our estimates to ₦3.2 billion. In all, Q1’18 PAT rose 57% y/y to ₦3.0 billion (Vetiva: ₦1.7 billion), further supported by lower than expected effective tax rate – 6% vs Vetiva’s 28%.

Selling all subsidiaries, retaining flagship fuel retailing business

Forte Oil (FO) recently released a notice of its Annual General Meeting (AGM) scheduled for May 28, 2018. Notably, one of the Special Resolutions to be considered at the AGM is a company restructuring plan that would involve the divestment of all FO’s subsidiaries – AP Oil & Gas Ghana Limited (“APOG”, 100% owned), Amperion Power Distribution Company Limited (“APDC”, 57% owned) and Forte Upstream Services Limited (“FUSL”, 100% owned). Effectively, the flagship Petroleum Marketing segment in Nigeria will be the only surviving business line post-restructuring, and the proceeds from the divestments will be used in funding its strategic expansion and repositioning.

Power business divestment comes as surprise

We are not surprised about FO’s plans to sell off its interest in APOG as this is in line with management’s earlier guidance as far back as 2016. We note that the subsidiary has consistently declared losses in the last three years, and the tough operating landscape in Ghana spells further weak earnings outlook. The decision to divest interest in FUSL is also not entirely shocking as a contribution from the subsidiary has historically been less significant (c.3.7% of Group’s gross profit since inception in 2011), even as it has been on a downtrend over the past three years. We understand that whilst the Power business remains profitable, cash flow within the segment has been challenging due to huge receivables.

We note that whilst the ₦701 billion Payment Assurance Guarantee Intervention Fund (PAG) introduced by the FG in 2017 has partly supported Power Generating companies’ liquidity, there are still huge power receivables on FO’s books (FY’16: ₦14.6 billion, FY’17: ₦32.6 billion). Meanwhile, the facility is also said to have been fully disbursed with no clear signals of another funding on the horizon. Subject to shareholders approval, we understand the proposed restructuring could be concluded by the end of the year.

Total deregulation of downstream sector very key post-divestment

We believe that the renewed full focus on the Petroleum Marketing segment is heavily supported by expectations of total PMS deregulation in the near term as well as the belief that the company can compete profitably within the space. For us, we do not expect a full-deregulation until much after elections and/or the commencement of operations at Dangote refinery. Aside from the challenges of capped margins in the PMS segment, we believe that the Nigeria Petroleum downstream sector is quite attractive particularly for big players with large asset base and sound logistics (like FO) given that it is a volume-play business.

Particularly, we highlight that post the currency devaluation in 2016, the working capital requirement in the downstream business has increased significantly – putting pressure on cash flow and increasing the need for additional capital. We understand that FO might be open to possible M&A as part of its expansion plans for the Petroleum Marketing business (post-divestment of its subsidiaries); this should further strategically reposition FO in the industry.

Mixed earnings trajectory, TP revised lower on liquidity challenges

Our long-term outlook on FO has changed significantly following the plan to divest all its subsidiaries. Post-divestment, FO will transform from running an
integrated energy model to a slimmer business model focused on petroleum products retailing on a larger scale. And as earlier highlighted, we believe that the full deregulation of the petroleum downstream industry is key to unlocking the sector’s value regardless of the scale of operations of industry players.

As such, we hold a bearish outlook on FO’s new/proposed business model (entirely petroleum products marketing) in the near term. We do not expect the divestment to be completed before the end of the year, hence, we expect FY’18 earnings to enjoy the full contribution of the Power Business amongst other subsidiaries before its divestment.

Pending further details on the restructuring plan and expansion plans for the petroleum retailing business, we continue to base our forecasts on the current diversified business model. We revise our FY’18 PAT to ₦7.7 billion (Previous: ₦6.4 billion) amidst revision to FY’18 revenue estimate to ₦154.1 billion (Previous:
₦138.6 billion), Net finance expense to ₦6.4 billion (Previous: ₦4.9 billion) and FY’18 tax rate assumption to 20% (Previous: 28%).

Notwithstanding our higher revisions to earnings, our target price is reduced to ₦77.75 (Previous: ₦83.57), largely weighed by the dimmer outlook on FO’s operating cash flow and increasing working capital need. We have also placed the stock on a HOLD recommendation pending further clarity on the planned divestments.

RHAPSODY OF REALITIES

with PASTOR CHRIS

THURSDAY, 17TH MAY, 2018.

"PRACTISE BEING FILLED WITH THE SPIRIT ALWAYS".

"And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit" (Ephesians 5:18).

Our opening verse gives us the secret to living the transcendent life: it’s being filled with the Spirit. This isn’t an option for you as a Christian, if you’re going to be effective in your Christian walk. You must be filled with the Spirit always. You might ask, “Is that really possible? Can we always be perpetually ‘high’ on the Holy Ghost?”
Emphatically yes! The Word says we can, and shows us how in the ensuing verses 19-21 of our opening scripture. It reads, “Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord; Giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ; Submitting yourselves one to another in the fear of God.”

Every day, practise being filled with the Spirit. Before you leave home, get full of the Holy Ghost! Before you lead in worship, before you go out for evangelism, before you go to work, be filled with the Spirit. When you’re full of the Spirit, the words that come out of you aren’t your words but God’s. Therefore, everything you say will come forth with power and surely come to pass.

When you’re full of the Holy Ghost, no matter what happens to you or around you, you’re unflustered. Like Paul, you’d say, “None of these things move me.” This is life beyond the ordinary plane of perception; life beyond the comprehension and ability of the human mind; life beyond this world!
This super life is what Jesus brought to us. He said, “The thief comes only in order to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have and enjoy life, and have it in abundance (to the full, till it overflows)” (John 10:10 AMPC). You’re not an ordinary person. Many Christians live ordinary lives, because they don’t get themselves filled with the Spirit often. If you’re continually filled with the Spirit, your life will be an unending stream of the supernatural.
We’ve been called into a life of unending success. The secret is being filled with the Spirit: You’d be enabled supernaturally to see things at a higher plane and live the higher life in Christ.

CONFESSION

I live the higher life in Christ; I walk in absolute victory and dominion over this world! I live above, reign over, and subdue life’s circumstances and situations, to the glory of the Lord Jesus Christ, the eternal King of glory. Hallelujah!

Ex-Nigeria Airways workers say Finance Minister lied on Presidential approval of N45b
User Avatar Forum: Travel/Aviation
Posted by: Edoman - 05-17-2018, 08:05 AM - No Replies

EX-WORKERS of the now defunct Nigeria Airways have described as untrue, information twitted by Minister of Finance, Kemi Adeosun that there has been no presidential approval for payment of their terminal benefits as the approval was given in September 20, 2017 at the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting.
The former workers of the liquidated airline were treated to a shock yesterday when the Minister of Finance, Kemi Adeosun revealed that there has been no presidential approval for payment of their terminal benefits as has been touted around in the media.
Adeosun took to her twitter handle stating that the payment has to be appropriated but stated that the debts have been reconciled, agreed on at N45billion following verification.
Her tweet read,” There has been a misconception in the media that the president had approved the payment of N45billion terminal benefits to the ex-workers of Nigeria Airways. I should make it clear that there is no presidential approval and no appropriation yet for the payment.”
“the terminal benefits of ex-Nigeria Airways workers are also part of the outstanding inherited debts. These benefits have been reconciled and agreed at N45billion, following verification. But we don’t have presidential approval yet for the payment. It also has to be appropriated,” the tweet ended.
However, nigerianflightdeck.com obtained a letter from the Office of the Honorable Minister of Finance addressed to the Minister of State, Aviation titled SETTLEMENT OD THE TERMINAL BENEFITS OF EX-WORKERS OF NIGERIA AIRWAYS (IN LIQUIDATION) APPEAL FOR MR. PRESIDENT’S INTERVENTION referenced: OHMF/PICA/FMT/28/VOL.1/94 where the minister stated that approval has been given based on certain recommendations and that the Minister of State Aviation would be notified when payment is complete.
The letter signed by Adeosun in part read:”I refer to your letter with RefNo TCA0036/S.I/T6/199 dated 31 st August, 2017 and to inform you that we have received approval contained in the letter Ref. No. SH/OVP/DCOS/FMF/956 dated 15 th May, 2017(copy attached) conveying the approval by the Acting President in the sum of N45,365, 664, 332.55(Forty-five Billion, Three Hundred and sixty-five Million, Six Hundred and Sixty-four thousand, Three hundred and Thirty-two Naira, Fifty-five kobo) for the settlement of the benefits of 5909 (Five thousand nine hundred and nine) verified ex-workers/pensioners of Nigeria Airways Limited (In Liquidation)”
The letter of approval also revealed the physical verification of beneficiaries would be carried out by the presidential Initiative and that payment of outstanding claim has been factored into Promissory Note Program (PNP) of the Federal Government.
An Ex-Airways worker who spoke wondered why the Minister would deny the approval on twitter knowing that she has her appendage in the letter and wondered what was going on.

This is very sad. A day which was meant to be one of the happiest days of a man's life - turned out to be one of the worse moments after a mishap occurred on the way to his traditional wedding in Umuahia, Abia state. According to Ezemoro John Ifeaghochukwu, fire broke out after an accident which killed his mother, one other and injured many others in the process.

According to the heartbroken man, his family's name has been dragged to the mud and his elder brother accused of using the victims for ritual purposes.

Below is what he shared on Facebook.

A day of my traditional marriage which never take place anymore. What a fire outbreak that took the life of my mothers and injured many on the way of my traditional marriage at umuahia.

Many things have been said, my families name dragged into mug.

My elder brother (SAMMYSOLO)has been accused of using those victims for rituals.

Pls friends and wellwishers, pray for me and my family to overcome this unthinkable evil.

We're bereaved right now, may God Almighty grant the injured victims a quick recovery. Grant the deads eternal rest.

Quote:Advices Senate President not to Interfere with Police Investigation into Assassinations.

**Transferring Gang of Hired Assassins to Force HQ for further investigation in accordance with Police Procedure.

The Inspector General of Police, IGP Ibrahim Idris Wednesday night reacted to the allegation by Senate President, Bukola Saraki that he (Idris) is plotting to frame him in the criminal assassination of some people in Kwara State saying that the it is an attempt at obstructing justice.

The IGP also urged the Senate President not to interfere with Police investigation adding that all those involved no matter their status would be brought to book.

In a statement signed by the Force Public Relation Officer, ACP Jimoh Moshood, the Police said, “The attention of the Nigeria Police Force has been drawn to Press Statement credited to the Senate President, Federal Republic of Nigeria, Senator Abubakar Bukola Saraki, of “Plot Against Him by IGP”.

“The Nigeria Police Force is shocked at the unbelievable claims, unverifiable allegations and unfounded accusations being peddled against the IGP by the Senate President, accusing the Inspector General of Police, IGP Ibrahim Idris of plot and strategies against him to settle scores.

“The Force therefore wishes to categorically state that, there is no iota of truth in the allegation and false assertion by the Senate President of plot against him by the IGP to implicate the Kwara State Government and the Senate President in any criminal matter.

“Until investigation is concluded, any person, persons or group who tries to interfere in the investigation process by action or utterances is committing an offence.

“To set the records straight, the Kwara State Police Command on the 11th of May, 2018, paraded the following suspects before the Media and the Public, namely; Abolaji Safti Ojulari of Kankatu area, Ilorin, Lanre Mohammed Soliu a.k.a Askari of Ile Nda Compound, Ilorin, Azeez Moyaki of Moyaki Compound, Gambari Area Ilorin.

Others are Suleiman Babatunde of Gambari Area, Ilorin, Yusuf Habeeb of Kangile Village, Kulende, Ilorin, and Umar Yahaya of Kangile Village, Kulende, Ilorin.

“The suspects admitted and confessed before the press and the public to have killed Eleven (11) innocent persons in kwara State and other States of the country.

“The victims according to the suspects were targeted and killed on the instructions of their sponsors.

“Find attached names of victims killed in cold blood (i) Bukola Ajikobi killed on 18/01/2016 at ajikobi Area in Ilorin (ii) Azeez Lawal killed in February, 2018 at Oja oba area of Ilorin (iii) Lateef (Surname unknown) killed February, 2018 at Ode Alfa Nda area of Ilorin (iv) Jamiu (Surname unknown) killed in February 2018 at idi ape area, Ilorin (v) One segun (Surname unknown) killed in September, 2017 at kankatu area of Ilorin.

Others are (vi) Wasiu (Surname unknown) killed in September 29, 2016 at Shao garage of Ilorin (vii) Musiliu (Surname unknown) killed in February, 2018 at Shao Area Ilorin (viii) Bayo Ajia killed in January 18, 2018 at taiwo Road, Ilorin (ix) Another Lateef killed in January 2016 at Baboko Area of Ilorin (x) Abbey a student of Kwara Polytechnic killed in April, 2017 at Niger Road, Ilorin (xi) Lanre (Surname unknown) killed on 23rd August, 2015 at Isale Aluko Area of Ilorin.

“Consequent upon the public confessions of these vicious and notorious killer squad to the killings in cold blood of more than Eleven (11) innocent people in Kwara State and other States of the Federation, the statutory procedure and practice in the Force is that such a heinous crime and capital offence is transferred to the Force Headquarters for further investigation.

“This is to enable a thorough and discreet investigation into the crime.

“However, it is pertinent to state that, there is no vested interest by the Inspector General of Police in the ongoing investigation into the several murders committed by this killer gang, other than ensuring that justice prevails in the matter.

“Nobody, no matter how highly placed would be allowed to interfere or obstruct Police investigation to pervert the course of justice.

“It is also imperative to let the public know that last year, suspects arrested over the mayhem and killings of innocent people in Ile-Ife, Osun State and those arrested in Southern Kaduna crisis in Kaduna State and suspects arrested in connection with Zaki-biam killings in Benue State were all transferred to the Force Headquarters, Abuja for further investigation before they were arraigned in court of competent jurisdiction.

“Therefore, transferring this hired assassin gang masquerading as cultists in kwara State to Force Headquarters, Abuja for further investigation is in accordance with Police investigation procedures.

“It is also important to underscore that the statement credited to the Senate President can dissuade and discourage living victims/deceased families of those who must have been killed by this vicious hired assassin gang from coming forward to give evidence against them.

“The Nigeria Police Force hereby implores members of the general public to disregard and discountenance the claim of plot by the IGP against the Senate President as a ruse, unfortunate and an attempt to divert Police investigation into the killings of more than Eleven (11) innocent people from kwara State and other States of the Federation in the recent past by the killer squad who operate under the guise of a cult group.

“The Force will leave no stone unturned and will do everything within the ambit of the law to ensure justice in this matter, no matter whose ox is gored.”

Senator Jonah Jang Remanded In Prison
User Avatar Forum: Retired Forums. Please Make Your Post Within The 3 Forums In General Discussion
Posted by: Edoman - 05-16-2018, 04:14 PM - No Replies

Quote:The Plateau State High Court has remanded a former governor of Plateau State, Jonah Jang, in Jos prison.

The court made the decision after it denied an application by Mr Jang’s counsel, Robert Clarks, for his bail following his arraignment by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Wednesday.

Mr Jang, who is currently the senator representing Plateau North district, is facing a 12-count charge of diverting N6.3 billion alongside a former cashier in the office of the Secretary to the State Government, Yusuf Pam.

They were alleged to have committed the offence while Mr Jang was governor of the state.

After pleading not guilty to the charges; their counsel, Mr Clarks, applied for their bail.

But prosecution counsel, Rotimi Jacobs, opposed the application, saying the accused, particularly Mr Jang, has tough credentials as a three-time governor, former Nigerian military general and serving senator, and may therefore intimidate prosecution witnesses if given bail.

He said granting them bail will not be in the best interest of justice.

The trial judge, Daniel Longji, thereafter ruled that the accused persons be remanded at the Jos Prisons till the next sitting of the court on Thursday May 24.

Earlier on Wednesday, the court struck out charges filed by the Independent Corruption Practice and other related offensive Commission (ICPC) against Mr Jang.

This was after counsel to ICPC, Adeshina Raheem, told the court that the commission was withdrawing its case to avoid duplication of charges against the former governor.

Mr Jang has been in the custody of the EFCC since Monday last week.

Woman Brutalizes 8-Year-Old Boy In Badagry Over Witchcraft Accusation (Photo)
User Avatar Forum: Other Stories
Posted by: Edoman - 05-16-2018, 03:41 PM - No Replies

A 45yr old woman, Charity Iyonetu, has been arrested for allegedly torturing an eight-year-old boy and accusing him of being a wizard. The police said that the suspect was arrested at the Seme border area of Badagry after she allegedly tied the victim’s hands with a rope and locked him up in a one-room apartment.

The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Imohimi Edgal, who confirmed the arrest at a press conference held yesterday at the Command Headquarters, Ikeja, said that the woman had been brutalising the boy until May 9, 2018 when she was arrested.

Edgal, who described the act as “man’s inhumanity to man”, said that the suspect inflicted grievous bodily injuries on the little boy.

“The complainant (Chinonye) alleged that the suspect is the elder sister to his father. He said that sometime in 2016, the suspect came to their village, Agbaai, Nkota LGA of Imo State, and brought him to Lagos after his mother had abandoned him and left for an unknown place.

“He stated that the suspect was always maltreating him and accusing him of being a wizard. The ordeal of the little boy came to the fore when on May 9, 2018, at about 9:00a.m., the suspect used a horse whip to flog the child, inflicting injuries all over his body.

“She thereafter locked him in her one-room apartment with his two hands tied behind his back and left for her shop. The survivor was crying and shouting for help, which made one Peter Aluku call the police. When the police team arrived, they broke the door of the house and rescued the child,” he said.

Edgal added that the suspect would be charged to the Special and Sexual Offences Court as soon as investigation was concluded.

Abuja Court Orders Defence Lawyer To Explain Melaye’s Absence
User Avatar Forum: Retired Forums. Please Make Your Post Within The 3 Forums In General Discussion
Posted by: Edoman - 05-16-2018, 03:38 PM - No Replies

Justice Olasunbo Goodluck of the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory, Maitama, Abuja, on Wednesday ordered lawyers to the embattled Senator Dino Melaye, who is grappling with multiple criminal charges, to, within 24 hours, explain the absence of the senator from court proceedings.

The court gave the order on Wednesday, the same day the High Court of Kogi State in Lokoja delivered a ruling on a bail application filed by Melaye who was said to be in Police custody.

The Lokoja court granted Melaye bail in absentia, with a surety for N10m.

Melaye’s absence from the Abuja court on Wednesday prevented the prosecution from opening its case in respect of the two counts of giving false information concerning an assassination attempt on his life to the Police in April 2017.

In the case, the senator was accused of deliberately giving false information to the Police to frame Mr. Edward Onoja David, who is the Chief of Staff to Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi State.

Melaye had cited David as the mastermind of the alleged assassination attempt.

The police said they discovered the alleged falsehood in Melaye’s claim while investigating the alleged attempt on his life at his hometown in Ayetoro-Gbede in Kogi State.

The senator, on March 1, 2018, pleaded not guilty to the charges filed against him by the Office of the Attorney-General of the Federation on January 31, 2018.

He is facing two other charges, one of which bordered on gun-running, before a Magistrate’s Court in Lokoja, Kogi State.

The other set of charges filed before a Magistrate’s Court in Abuja included an attempted suicide, which he allegedly committed by jumping off a Police vehicle while under arrest.

At the Wednesday’s hearing of the alleged frame-up case before the FCT High Court in Abuja, the prosecuting counsel, Mr. Magaji Labaran, said that he was set to open his case by calling the first prosecution witness, but expressed worry over the defendant’s absence.

Labaran urged the judge to summon the person standing as surety for the bail granted the senator to explain the defendant’s whereabouts to the court.

But defence counsel, Mr. Rickey Tarfa (SAN), said Labaran did not give “a fair representation” of the facts leading to the defendant’s absence from court.

Tarfa said Melaye, while lying on a stretcher, was arraigned on the charges of attempted suicide before the Magistrate’s Court in Abuja, on May 2, 2018.

The court granted him bail, but the Police re-arrested him on the court premises and moved him to Lokoja the next day to face the gun-running charges.

According to the SAN, the Magistrate’s Court in Lokoja refused to grant bail to the senator, but a fresh application for his bail was promptly filed before the High Court of Kogi State in Lokoja.

He said the Lokoja High Court had fixed Wednesday (today) for its ruling on the bail application, but in the interim, ordered the Police to move the senator from the prison, where he was remanded by the Magistrate’s Court, to Abuja where he must be given adequate medical care by the Police.

Tarfa said that explained why his client was absent from the Wednesday’s proceedings.

I can't be championing ANTI CORRUPTION war and still be lobbying them(Judiciary) to respect the Administration of Criminal Justice Act, lobbying them with what?

"I'm not interested in amassing wealth, I've never been and that is why I don't own oil wells and foreign accounts etc. This is the very reason that I'm not in collusion with anyone to share or embezzle the wealth of this nation. As a retired Head of State, my pension, savings, farms and other entitlements are sufficient to cater for my family. Remember, I don't have seven wives and eighty children. My only reason to take up leadership of this nation is to do the most I can, to do the things that others couldn't sum up the will to do and without same this nation will continue to pour our Honey into a basket and always be left with nothing. I may not be the best, I have my shortfalls but my intentions are always sincere and noble".

"I'm up and against the supposed owners of this nation who want this nation to continue to be the plantation of their political bracket, they have far reaching powers, influence and control than you can ever imagine. "You may think that I am the devil but the devil is right there in your midst and shaking hands with you, they can arm-twist anyone and have their way. We wanted to save in the time of abundance but they will not let us, we wanted to repair our refineries for sixteen years but they will not let us, we wanted to enforce beautiful policies to secure this nation's economy but still they will not let us".

Today, we are saving irrespective of what they say or do, we are making our refineries work and diversifying our economy irrespective of what they say or do, we are enforcing policies that keeps the hands of monkeys out of our general pot irrespective of what they say or do. The job is not perfect neither is it complete but we are definitely on it and we will not give up.
Nigeria can not survive with the conscienceless and overbearing influence of these supposed owners of Nigeria, who surreptitiously command every facet of our nation's socioeconomic and political life.

Join me in the rescue of this nation or join anyone who you believe without a doubt that same can stop the owners of Nigeria from destroying this nation. Make no mistakes about this, 2019 is between Nigeria and the supposed owners of Nigeria. The choice is yours.

RHAPSODY OF REALITIES

with PASTOR CHRIS

WEDNESDAY, 16TH MAY, 2018.

"YOU’RE NOT OF THIS WORLD".

"But ye are come unto mount Sion, and unto the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and to an innumerable company of angels" (Hebrews 12:22).

God wants you to know His Word; He wants your spirit to be trained and educated about spiritual realities so you’ll know how to walk in Christ. Being born again, you’ve been born into Christ; that’s where you live now. Christ isn’t only a person, He’s also a place, and when you’re brought into that place, you live from there; you understand from there.

In Christ, all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge are unveiled to you; you have insight into mysteries and secrets. Life isn’t a mystery but a smooth sail, enjoyable and full of glory. In Christ, we walk in wisdom and righteousness; we walk in victory and dominion; we’re never defeated. What a place to be! You’re not of this world. Jesus said, “...I have chosen you out of the world...” (John 15:19). So what? Live in, and from, Christ! Christ is your city. Christ is your country; that’s the mountain we read about in our opening verse; it’s called mount Zion. We’ve been planted on that mountain, the mountain of the Lord’s house; that’s where all the beauty of God is; that’s where all the glory of God is. Now, you can understand why your life is only for beauty, and for glory. Psalm 50:2 says, “Out of Zion, the perfection of beauty, God hath shined.”

The Bible says, “Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new” (2 Corinthians 5:17). In Christ, you’re a new creation; old things—failures, sickness, weakness, frustrations, and disappointments of the past—are passed away. You’ve been ushered into a newness of life, with dominion over Satan and the powers of darkness.

CONFESSION

Blessed Father, your Word is my life! I have the divine life, because I’m born of your indestructible and incorruptible Word. I’m immune and impregnable to the darkness, troubles, and corrupting influences in this world. Greater is He that’s in me, than he that’s in the world. I live in glory and eternal victory forever, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.

FURTHER STUDY:

John 15:19 If ye were of the world, the world would love his own: but because ye are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you.

This is another milestone in our determined and collective fight against corruption.

2. Throughout my journey in national service and since 2015, I have made a very conscious decision to pursue a vigorous fight against corruption in public life.

3. Since 2015, we have made significant progress in the fight against corruption. Everyone now knows that corrupt officials will be held to account, no matter how long it takes.

4. We have recovered and are still recovering trillions of naira that were stolen in the past few years by people without conscience.

5. We are pursuing recoveries everywhere and are making sure that anyone who has been found culpable is made to answer for his or her crime under the law.

6. It is my hope and expectation that the judiciary, which is a critical stakeholder and partner in the war against corruption, would continue to collaborate with the Executive to bring corrupt people to book.

7. Permit me to also seize this opportunity to call on the Legislature which provides the legal framework for the anti-corruption war to add more verve to the determination of government to rid our nation of the brazen corruption witnessed in recent years, through reviewing archaic provisions in our laws and proactive passage of new legislation.

8. Ladies and gentlemen, an American author and philanthropist, Anthony Robbins once said: “The only impossible journey is the one you never begin." He was saying, in other words, that if you are determined, no obstacle will be big enough to stand in your way.

9. What I see here is not only a structure of concrete and metal, I see in this edifice, the resolve of Nigerians to fight corruption. But structures are not the whole story. We must CHANGE our ways of handling public trust. Corruption not only kills governments but destroys societies. It is the major reason why we are struggling with basic developmental issues that other comparable nations have long overcome.

10. War of corruption is not an easy one to fight, because it affects so many different branches of our lives, so much that some people do not even consider breaking trust is anymore a crime. It has become the norm. That is why we must fight this attitude and encourage Nigerians to CHANGE their attitudes and perspectives.

11. The goal of this Administration is to ensure the protection of public trust, and the anti-corruption war is at its centre. We never intended, and we are not engaged in witch-hunts, but we are determined within the laws to call people to account.

12. It is for this reason that we appeal to Nigerians to support regulatory agencies like Economic and Financial Crimes Commission because fighting corruption is everyone’s concern. I call on the Judiciary and the National Assembly to join hands in this national effort.

13. I am glad to note that quite a number of nations are signifying interest to help us tighten their laws and enter into agreements with Nigeria to repatriate not only stolen funds but to make the culprits face due process of law.

14. We are committed to working with our foreign friends to stop the inflow of stolen funds from Nigeria into their countries and recovering what is there already. These assets, when repatriated will be put to building our infrastructure.

15. It is my pleasure to perform the opening ceremony of the ‘’Economic and Financial Crimes Commission’s Headquarters’’.

Leon Usigbe - Abuja

The Presidency has denied that Nigeria was represented at Monday’s official opening of the United States embassy in Jerusalem, Israel.
The controversial move to relocate it from Tel Aviv by the President Donald Trump administration has already drawn the ire of Palestinians who carried out a deadly protest during the ceremony thought to have been attended by Nigeria along with dozens of other nations.

But a top Presidency office’s has now distanced Nigeria from the event, saying in Abuja on Tuesday that the country was not represented.
The official who did not want to be named said in a statement distributed to the media: “Nigeria was not present at an event during which the United States officially relocated its embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem on Monday contrary to media report.”

The source said the Federal Government had written to a foreign medium, Al Jazeera, demanding a retraction of its story that listed Nigeria as one of the countries represented at the event.

The Presidency official disclosed that based on the report, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama, queried the Nigerian Ambassador to Israel to explain his presence at the event.

The Presidency said: “Based on that report, the minister queried the ambassador to explain why he attended the event.

“The ambassador has since replied that he was not at the event.

“It was on the strength of the ambassador’s response that the Federal Government wrote to Al Jazeera to retract its story.”

The embassy opening took place amid road closures and heavy police presence in anticipation of Palestinian protests, as well as deadly demonstrations in Gaza calling for the refugees’ right to return to the homes they were forcibly expelled from 70 years ago.

Trump had promised during his campaign that he would recognize Jerusalem as the eternal capital of Israel and relocate the US embassy to the city.

In December 2017, he fulfilled the first part of that campaign promise by declaring Jerusalem as Israel’s capital in line with the wish of Israel.
On Monday, Trump said via a video message to the ceremony: “Today we follow through on this recognition and open our embassy in the historic and sacred land of Jerusalem, and we’re opening it many, many years ahead of schedule.”

Herdsman Rapes 14-Year-Old Girl In A Farm In Ebonyi (Photo)
User Avatar Forum: Other Stories

Quote:[Image: The-girl.jpg]

A 14-year-old girl in Umuifi community, Anioma-Isu in Onicha local government area of Ebonyi State, Favour(surname withheld) was yesterday allegedly raped by Herdsman in the area.

The victim who is a student of Union secondary school, Agueke-Isu in the area has been taken to a medical facility for treatment.

Narrating her ordeal, the teenager who is very sad over the rape said she was on the farm fetching vegetables when the herdsman besieged her and raped her.

She called on the state government to look into the activities of Fulani herdsmen in Umuifi community in order to avert any negative the episode involving young girls in the near future.

“I went to the farm to fetch vegetables when I was attacked by a Fulani herdsman.

He came to our farm with his cows and cross the cow around; he asked me if am with water and food, I said no; he now went and got more cows to surround me; he told me that if I allow him to have sex with him, that he will give me N700. I refused and started running away. He chased me and used the back of his cutlass on my back
so I fell and he raped me.

“I feel sad; I want the government to come to my aid as young girls like me are no longer safe to go the farm and help our parent; the government should make sure the Fulani herdsman is prosecuted according to the law. Every Fulani herdsman with bad intention should be meant to leave our land.”

Chairman of the community, Festus Nwachukwu who confirmed the incident, condemned the activities of Fulani herdsmen in Umuifi Anioma-Isu community, describing it as a threat to agricultural revolution of the state.

According to him, even though the suspect has been arrested by the police, the act that was committed by the Fulani herdsman is an abomination to community’s land.

“We are going to carrying out a cleansing ceremony on the land so that it will remain fertile.

The Fulani herdsmen are destroying our farms; if you want to talk to them they will threaten you with knives; our major occupation is farming; we can no more farm because of this menace; they are fond of using their cows to destroy our farmlands and crops.

“The government policies on agriculture are being threatened in Onicha LGA. I came back from church and learnt that this girl was raped by a Fulani man when she went to the farm to get vegetables; and that if she refuses he will kill her; he used the knives to beat her on the back and then raped her.

What has happened is an abomination in our land; the man has damaged the fertility of the land and we are going to use cows, fowls and many cartons of beers and palm wine to bless the land”, he said.

A member of the State Committee on Herdsmen, Mr Amechi Oken who extolled Governor David Umahi for putting types of machinery in place to checkmate the excesses of herdsmen in the state added that the Committee usually visit locations were skirmishes between herdsmen and farmers occur in order to proffer solution.

The State Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Loveth Oda said the matter has not been reported to her office and promised to carry out further investigation into it. ENDS

Robbers Attack Union Bank In Ekiti, Two Feared Dead

Suspected armed robbers on Tuesday attacked Union bank in Ilawe-Ekiti, Ekiti State, leaving two people dead in the process.

In the operation that lasted over one hour, the robbers killed a policeman and a bank staff. Another bank worker was also reportedly shot in the arm.

The Ilawe robbery attack happened barely a month after another old generation bank was attacked in Ifaki-Ekiti in which a police inspector was killed.

The robbers stormed the bank which is located close to the Alawe’s Palace, at about 2.45 pm and operated unhindered for over an hour. They reportedly blasted the bank’s security door with dynamite before gaining entrance.

The dynamite also blew up a blue colour Toyota Camry car parked within the vicinity of the bank. The robbers reportedly stole an unspecified amount of money.

It can be recalled that at least four police officers were reportedly gunned down during a robbery operation in Offa, Kwara State, last month.

About six other residents and bank customers in the town were also killed in the operation which lasted for more than an hour.

Sources in the town said the robbers blew up entrances into the banks with dynamite, before carting away money from about five banks.

Shiite Leader, El-Zakzaky Arraigned In Kaduna Court Amid Tight Security. Photos

The leader of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria, Sheikh Ibraheem Zakzaky and his wife, were today arraigned before the Kaduna state High Court sitting in Kaduna. The duo were surprisingly forcibly moved from their DSS detention center in Abuja under the cover of darkness and brought to Kaduna for the case. The Sheikh had refused being served some weeks earlier, but the authorities forcibly arraigned notwithstanding.

When the case was called, the Kaduna state Director of Public Prosecution (DPP), Bayero Dari, announced appearance for the prosecution. At that point, the presiding judge asked where those standing trial were. Barrister Dari said they were within the court premises.

They judge then asked they should be brought in. Sheikh Zakzaky and the wife were then led into the court hall by DSS operatives, and they took their seats as the case continued.

Barrister Opaluwa and Barrister Maxwell Kyon announced appearance for the defense on behalf of Femi Falana, SAN.

Bayero asked for more time to enable the prosecution serve the other two persons standing trial with the Sheikh. On their part, the defense lawyers made an oral application for bail and an unfettered access to their clients.

The court asked that the bail application be brought formally and granted the request of the defense of unhindered access to Sheikh after an adequate notice is provided of at least three days.

The application of the prosecution to allow the Sheikh and his wife to continue being in the custody of the DSS was granted.

The case was adjourned to June 21, 2018 and the Sheikh and his wife were consequently returned to Abuja.

Abiapoly Reopens, As Union Call Off Strike
User Avatar Forum: Universities
Posted by: Edoman - 05-15-2018, 02:12 PM - No Replies

The Abia State Polytechnic, Aba, has reopened as members of the Non academic staff union (NASU) in the state owned institution, suspended their four weeks old industrial action after a congress of the union held in the school premises.

Speaking to newsmen after the union’s congress, Chairman of the Union, Mr. Kalu Nwankwo, confirmed the decision of congress to suspend the industrial action.

His words: “We decided to suspend the industrial action to allow management implement the agreement we reached with them”.

Also speaking, the Abia State Commissioner for Information, Chief John Okiyi Kalu, thanked the workers for their decision to return to work.

According to him, “We appreciate the decision of the workers to put the students and the state first. As a government, we will ensure that the agreement reached between the union and the management of the institution is fully respected and implemented”

Continuing, Chief Okiyi stated that the government is currently reviewing the plan presented by the management of the institution to ensure sustainable payment of wages and seamless operation of the Polytechnic and called for patience and support by workers.

“The major challenge remains that the school’s current monthly wage bill of about N170m cannot be sustained by the internally generated revenue profile of the institution, hence, the workers and management need to work together to evolve a sustainable solution that will ensure that the institution truly becomes autonomous as envisaged by the law setting it up.

“Abiapoly receives and autonomously use school fees, grants and other revenues to run its operations. We expect the management and workers to rejig their operations to ensure that what they make can, at least, conveniently pay workers while Government supports with subventions”

Mr Okiyi warned those he described as opposition political actors who he accused of using some workers in the institution to perpetuate the strike and all kinds of sabotage for political benefits to stop meddling in the affairs of the institution and called on workers to resist politically motivated strikes while fighting for their rights.

“We have information on the activities of some political actors in the state who are using some labor leaders to frustrate the school management’s effort at ensuring an amicable and early solution to the industrial crises. Those involved should cease and desist immediately. It is unheard of that workers will embark on strike and then lock up the premises of their employer and take the keys home. Those workers who are willing to return to work should not be molested or stigmatized in any form by those sponsored and funded by politicians to cripple the institution.”

The Commissioner who met with some workers and union leaders that resumed work today, expressed optimism that other unions in the school who are yet to hold congresses will do so in the coming days to ensure full resumption of academic activities.

FUOYE Students Protest ‘no School Fees, No Examination’ Directive
User Avatar Forum: Universities

Students of the Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE), on Monday staged a peaceful protest against the institution’s directive preventing students who had not paid their school fees from sitting for the ongoing first semester examination.

The students, who took to the Oye-Ikole highway, locked down the highway for hours before returning to the main gate of the institution to continue the protest.

One of the protesters, who spoke with newsmen said that some students were denied access to the examination hall on May 10 inspite of the fact that the deadline for the payment of school fees had not lapsed.

The institution’s Public Relations Officer, Mr Godfrey Badji said that some students who had not fully paid their school fees were the ones protesting. He said;

According to him, the institution’s management had directed that those who had not completed payment of their school fees should not sit for the examination.

“While implementing this directive, some students who had not paid their school fees were not allowed to participate in the ongoing semester examination.

“This is the reason why those students affected have resorted to protest this morning,”

It can be recalled that FUOYE was closed down indefinitely by the school management after students of the institution clashed with Okada riders in the month of March.

Crude Oil Prices Race To $80
User Avatar Forum: Oil/Gas
Posted by: Edoman - 05-15-2018, 02:09 PM - No Replies

Oil prices steadied below 3-1/2 year highs yesterday as resistance emerged in Europe and Asia to U.S. sanctions against major crude exporter Iran, while rising U.S. drilling pointed to higher North American production.

Brent crude was up 20 cents at 77.32 dollars a barrel by 1315 GMT and U.S. light crude rose 10 cents to 70.80 dollars.

Both oil futures contracts hit their highest since November 2014 last week at 78 dollars and 71.89 dollars a barrel, respectively as markets anticipated a sharp fall in Iranian crude supply once U.S. sanctions bite later this year.

It is unclear how hard U.S. sanctions will hit Iran’s oil industry.

A lot will depend on how other major oil consumers respond to Washington’s action against Tehran, which will take effect in November.

China, France, Russia, Britain, Germany and Iran all remain in the nuclear accord that placed controls on Iran’s nuclear programme and led to a relaxation of economic sanctions against Iran and companies doing business there.

The surge in oil prices comes at a time of tight supply amid record Asian demand and voluntary output restraint by the Organisation of the Petroleum Exporting Countries and non-OPEC producers, including Russia.

Nigerian gov’t destroys 5,870 recovered illegal arms in Zamfara

Daily Nigerian May 14, 2018

The illegal arms displayed before destruction in Gusau, Zamfara State capital, on Monday, May 14, 2018

The Presidential Committee on Small Arms and Light Weapons in Gusau on Monday destroyed 5,870 illegal arms and ammunition recovered by the Zamfara Government.

The exercise marked the launch of the pilot stage of the destruction of arms and weapons recovered from persons who illegally held them.

The recovery in Zamfara was made from repentant bandits who surrendered their weapons to the state government Committee for Peace, Reconciliation and Disarmament, headed by the deputy governor, Ibrahim Wakkala.

The exercise which took place at Zamfara Trade Fair Complex in Gusau, was chaired by the chairman of the Presidential Committee, Emmanuel Imohe.

The event was attended by Zamfara governor, Abdul’aziz Yari and his deputy, Wakkala, representatives of international agencies such as the EU, ECOWAS and UNDP as well as security agencies and traditional rulers.

In his remark, Mr Imohe said the exercise was aimed at destroying a total of 5,870 arms and ammunition received under Zamfara state disarmament initiative.

“Apart from the destruction of illegal and recovered arms, one of the mandates of this presidential committee is also to improve livelihood of the people and communities that surrendered their weapons.

“Zamfara is one of the seven states in the country selected by the Federal Government for a pilot programme.

“This programme is also a flat form for raising awareness of dangers associated with the circulation of illegal weapons that have killed, injured and terrorised people all over the world,” he said.

Mr Imohe commended Zamfara for initiating the disarmament programme which resulted to the recovery of over 5,000 small arms, ammunition, grenades, automatic and semi-automatic weapons.

“I am happy to be associated with this laudable efforts made by Zamfara State Government.

“I consider this as one of great achievements recorded by this committee, I thank the state disarmament committee led by the state Deputy Governor, Malam Ibrahim Wakkala, and all stakeholders who contributed to the success recorded.

“You know, this committee was inaugurated in April 2013 by the Federal Government with the mandate to be the focal point in the efforts of the country to address the movement of illicit illegal arms and light weapons.

“We are working with international organisations to conduct practical disarmament at border communities in the country and provide a support for repentant bandits,’’ he said.

In his remark, Mr Yari thanked the Federal Government for setting up the presidential committee and international organisations for their efforts for peace and stability in the state and country.

Mr Yari said the state had recorded many deaths, casualties and huge losses in economic activities as result of cattle rustling and banditry.

He said such losses necessitated the setting up the Peace, Reconciliation and Disarmament Committee by the state government.

“The Committee since inception has recorded great successes of recovering over 5,000 illegal arms and large number of repentant bandits across the state.

“We are witnessing the destruction of these illegal weapons today, we are going to continue to give all the necessary support to Federal Government and all stakeholders as regard to improvement of security in the state and country at large.

“We are going to provide authentic lists of repentant bandits and those who surrendered their arms and submit it to the Federal Government for assistance with the aim of changing their livelihood,” he said.

The Zamfara Government in an effort to address security challenges in the state in 2016 set up the Peace, Reconciliation and Disarmaments Committee.

Similarly, the Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, in March ordered the recovery of all illegal arms across the country to check the deteriorating security situation.

Fresh Plot To Invade National Assembly Thickens,150 Delta Youths Moved To Abuja

..Omo-Agege vows to resume today

......150 Delta youths moved to Abuja for protest

Quote:By Onwuka Nzeshi and Johnchuks Onuanyim

As the Senate prepares to legally fence-out its suspended member, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege (APC/Delta Central) from returning to the red chamber, there are strong indications that the embattled legislator may launch a fresh invasion of the National Assembly today to forcefully reclaim his seat.

A crowd of supposed supporters of the embattled lawmaker is expected to picket the gates of the National Assembly today to demand his recall. Ahead of the expected resumption of Omo-Agege, security was yesterday beefed up at the National Assembly, Abuja.

The suspended yesterday vowed to resume plenary today. The Senate had on April 12 suspended Omo-Agege for 90 legislative days for accusing his colleagues of amending the Electoral Act 2014 purposely to frustrate President Muhammadu Buhari’s second term bid.

The lawmaker made the allegation following the adoption of the Conference Report on the Electoral Act, which proposed a reordering of the sequence of the general elections in the country.

Barely a week after the suspension, Omo-Agege forced his way back to his seat, allegedly with the aid of some hoodlums who invaded the red chamber and took away the mace, the symbol of legislative authority.

The police had, last week, blamed the invasion of the Senate chamber on perceived connivance among some unnamed political actors in the parliament.

Omo-Agege is the scribe of the banned Parliamentary Support Group for Buhari (PSGB), a group of legislators drumming support for President Buhari’s second term ambition. New Telegraph gathered that Omo-Agege will be returning to the Senate today with a motley crowd of supporters while the PSGB will be on hand to receive him.

A source who spoke to New Telegraph on the condition of anonymity said much of the crowd would be imported from Delta State. According to our source, a convoy of buses conveying about 150 youths left Asaba, Delta State, for Abuja yesterday, for the planned protest in support of Omo-Agege’s return to the National Assembly.

The planned protest would revolve around the need to enforce the court ruling declaring the suspension of Omo-Agege as illegal.

Omo-Agege yesterday vowed to resume at the Senate today. Speaking with journalists at the All Progressives Congress (APC) national headquarters in Abuja yesterday, the senator said: “The enrolment of the court order is being served on the Senate as we speak and I believe that it has been served on the Senate.

Thereafter, I reserve the right to resume whenever I deem fit. “I don’t expect any resistance because that will have its own consequences. “This is a court order and you must understand the basis of the court judgement.

The court rendered that judgement because it felt that they were contemptuous. My matter was in court and, notwithstanding, they proceeded to purportedly suspend me.

It was on that basis that the court exercised its power to reverse the suspension and not necessarily on the merit of my case. “Now, I understand that they have gone to court to ask for a stay of that judgement. For those of you who are familiar with the law, that is an equitable relief. He who comes to equity must come with clean hands.

You cannot be in contempt of the court and at the same time ask the court to grant you an equitable relief of stay. In any case, it is a declaratory judgement, which is not stayable in law and the judge said with immediate effect. “So, I don’t need any other action to take my seat. So, to answer your question, I will show up any time I deem fit.

There is no reason why I should not show up tomorrow (today). More likely, I will be in the Senate on Tuesday.” Strengthening of security arrangement at the complex, especially around the Senate Chambers is to forestall likely security breach as recorded on April 18, when some hoodlums stormed the chambers and made away with the Mace.

The incident which occurred while plenary was ongoing in the chambers was linked to Omo-Agege, who defied the suspension order on him and attended the proceedings, accompanied by some strange fellows into the chamber.

Apart from full security detail in the chamber of the red chamber on Monday, police officers were seen at the lobby leading into the chamber, a development that is unusual on a non-sitting day.

Sergeants-at-Arms were also seen in clusters discussing in hush tones, and apparently perfecting the security beef-up.
Some staff of the assembly, who pleaded anonymity, said that the development was not unconnected with the expected return of Omo- Agege to the chamber on today after the court judgement in his favour.

They confirmed that the move to check likely breakdown of law and order as experienced when the mace was forcefully taken away. The Federal High Court sitting in Abuja had, last Thursday, voided the suspension of Omo-Agege by the Senate.

The court, in a judgement delivered by Justice Nnamdi Dimgba, held that the reason the Senate adduced for suspending Omo-Agege for 90 legislative days, was unconstitutional. The court further noted that the Ethics and Privileges Committee of the Senate recommended that Omo- Agege should be suspended to punish him for instituting legal action against the legislative house.

The court held that while the Senate has the powers to sanction its erring members to protect its integrity, no institution or authority has the powers to strip any citizen his right of access to the court. Justice Dimgba further noted that whereas sections 67(4) of the Senate Standing Rules 2014 and section 21(2) of the Legislative Houses Powers and Privileges Act, okayed the suspension of any erring lawmakers for 14 legislative days, the Senate went ahead and handed Omo-Agege 90-day suspension.

“The suspension of the plaintiff for 90 days is ultravires of powers of the 1st defendant (Senate). Any suspension of member of the Senate that exceeds 14 days is null and void and unconstitutional,” the court held.
The court ordered the Senate to recall the plaintiff immediately and equally pay him any salary or allowance that accrued to him within the period he was illegally suspended.

Omo-Agege had, in his suit marked FHC/ABJ/ CS/314/2018, prayed the court to quash his suspension and declare that he was illegally barred from attending plenary at the Senate. However, the Senate reportedly appealed the ruling of the court and applied for a stay of execution of the order to recall the legislator. The appeal has been slated for consideration tomorrow.

My Achievement in 3 years is Better Than 16 Years Of PDP Misrule- Buhari

Quote:President Muhammadu Buhari on Monday said the odds of initial dwindling oil prices did not discourage his administration from setting targets for lofty developmental projects and achieving more in three years than the 16 years of Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) misrule.

The president, according to a statement by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity Malam Garba Shehu, said this at the palace of the Emir of Dutse, Alhaji Nuhu Muhammadu Sanusi, during his two-day visit to Jigawa State.

Buhari said his administration was delivering on promises with clear-cut targets, prudent management of resources and a deliberate policy to plug wastage and pilfering of government resources.

He said the growing support his administration currently enjoys can be attributed to the understanding of Nigerians of the unpleasant realities it inherited, and the efforts to reposition the economy in spite of “what the opposition keeps sponsoring in the press’’.

President Buhari directed the Minister of Water Resources, Eng. Sulaiman Adamu, to work with the Jigawa State Government to alleviate the challenge of water scarcity in the state capital, following a complaint by the Emir of Dutse.

On arrival in Jigawa State, the President began his engagements at Auyo, near Hadejia, where he inaugurated the expansion of an irrigation scheme and paid a visit to the Emir of Hadejia, Alhaji Adamu Abubakar Maje.

The president, who was received "by a tumultuous crowd", thanked the Emir of Hadejia and his people for always supporting him, even when he was an opposition candidate.

He said his visit to Hadejia was more of homecoming, promising to give more attention to the needs of the people in the Emirate.

In his remarks, the Emir of Dutse commended the Federal Government for its efforts in addressing the challenges of corruption, terrorism and drug abuse in the country.

The emir requested that the Date Palm Research Centre in Dutse, currently under the National Oil Palm Research Institute, be moved to the Federal University, explaining that the research centre would be more relevant and functional in the university.
Both emirs held special prayers for the President and his administration.

Omo-agege Will Be Allowed To Resume – Senate

Quote:The Delta Central senator, Ovie Omo-Agege, who was previously suspended for 90 days, will be allowed to resume is office in accordance with a court ruling, the Senate said late Monday.
In a statement by its spokesperson, Sabi Abdullahi, the Senate said it has been briefed by lawyers on the court judgement nullifying Mr Omo-Agege’s suspension.

Justice Nnamdi Dimgba of the Abuja Division of the Federal High Court nullified the suspension of Mr Omo-Agege last week Thursday.
Mr Dimgba said the Senate’s decision regarding the suspension, as well as the pattern adopted by the National Assembly, was constitutionally defective.
Following the judgement, an aide to Senate President Bukola Saraki, said the Senate has approached the court to appeal the ruling and institute a stay of execution.
Mr Omo-Agege in reaction on Monday said the appeal will not hinder his resumption as the stay of execution which the Senate applied for has not been granted.
In its statement late on Monday, the Senate said it would allow the senator resume in obedience to the court order.
“The Senate leadership has been briefed by our lawyers on last Thursday’s judgement of the Federal High Court, Abuja, on whether the Senate has the legal authority to suspend a member for certain misconduct or not.

“We have equally filed an appeal against the judgement of the court and a motion for stay of execution of the judgement at the Court of Appeal.
“As an institution that obeys the law and court orders, the Senate has decided that it will comply with the judgement of the Federal High Court and do nothing to stop Senator Ovie Omo-Agege from resuming in his office and at plenary from tomorrow May 15, 2018, pending the determination of the application for stay of execution.
“The Senate has been advised that since the motion for stay of execution of the Thursday (May 10, 2018) judgement shall be heard and possibly determined on Wednesday, May 16, 2018, we shall therefore respect the subsisting High Court judgement and await the appellate court’s decision on the pending motion.”
On Monday, NAN reports that security was beefed up at the National Assembly in anticipation of Mr Omo-Agege’s resumption.

Omo-Agege: Security Beef-up At National Assembly

Omo-Agege had gone to court to challenge his 90 legislative days suspension by the Senate and the court in its ruling declared the action unconstitutional, saying that the Senate could not suspend a member beyond 12 days .

His suspension was based on is comment that amendment to section 25 of the Electoral Act, 2010 (as amended), bordering on reordering of elections sequence was targeted at President Muhammadu Buhari.

Bishop Alex Ibezim To Buhari: "Stop Treating Herdsmen As Kinsmen"
User Avatar Forum: Politics
Posted by: Edoman - 05-15-2018, 10:26 AM - No Replies

The Church of Nigeria, Anglican Communion has condemned the way the President Muhammadu Buhari–led Federal Government is handling the menace of herdsmen in the country

Rising from its 2018 synod at the St. Peter’s Anglican Church, Amawbia, the Bishop of Awka Diocese, Dr. Alex Ibezim in his charge wondered why the Fulani herdsmen were being handled with kid’s glove.

In the Bishop’s charge with the theme, ‘Mission, the heart of God,” the church urged Buhari to stop treating the killers with levity.

The synod noted that a group that had killed thousands of Nigerians should not be treated as kinsmen.

The church regretted that the return of democracy in 1999 that ought to be a kind of political liberation had been allowed to divide Nigerians into religious and ethnic cleavages.

The charge added, “Nigeria, a major oil producer and Africa’s most populous nation and second-largest economy, is facing challenges. Most political parties are much more concerned about upcoming elections rather than the burning issues of the country.

“Political liberalisation ushered in by the return to civilian rule in 1999 has allowed militants from religious and ethnic groups to pursue their demands through violence.

“Separatist aspirations have also been growing, prompting reminders of the bitter civil war over the breakaway Biafran republic in the late 1960s.

It added that Nigeria while still reeling from the Boko Haram insurgency and its numerous atrocities, another terrorist group, which he referred to as Fulani herdsmen, sprouted.

The church said, “The group has done enough havoc to be acknowledged by the global community as the fourth deadliest terror group in the world.

The church noted that between 2014 and 2018, herdsmen had killed over 1,229 people across the country with Benue, Taraba, Nassarawa, Plateau, Kaduna and Katsina as the worst hit states.

The church added,” They are armed with sophisticated weapons and usually attack their target communities at a time they are most vulnerable such as at midnight or on Sundays when they are in church, killing people indiscriminately and burning houses and looting properties.

“Most worrisome is the brutality and impunity with which the assailants operate without regard for the law and the sanctity of human life. The Nigerian police and even the military seem powerless to defend the victims from being mercilessly slaughtered in their homes.

“It is unfortunate that this level of criminal impunity is happening in a sovereign nation with a constitution which declares that the security and welfare of the citizens shall be a major responsibility of the state.

“Perhaps we need to ask why the police and the military are incapable of protecting the farmers from violent attacks by Fulani herdsmen. Is it true that the Fulani militias are better armed and sometimes outnumber the police?

“Why is it difficult for the Federal Government to contain the terror of the Fulani militia? Who are those arming the Fulani herdsmen to unleash mayhem on innocent and defenceless Nigerians?”

The synod wondered what President Muhammadu Buhari silence on the issue could mean, stressing that “Nigerians are tired of speeches and condolence messages to victims.

They added, “If this country will continue to remain as one, then those who perpetrate crime must be dealt with accordingly without minding whose ox is gored.”

On the 2019 general elections, the synod urged politicians not to pursue it “with senseless desperado and indiscretion.”

It described Buhari’s anti-corruption fight as lopsided and ineffectual.

RHAPSODY OF REALITIES DAILY DEVOTIONAL (FREE MAY PDF => http://bit.ly/2cuJG6M

*CHILDREN OF THE WORD .*

Tuesday, May 15th .
Pastor Chris

_*Of his own will begat he us with the word of truth, that we should be a kind of firstfruits of his creatures (James 1:18).*_

The Lord Jesus is the Word of God made flesh, but did you know the same is true of us? In 1 Peter 1:23, the Bible says, _*“Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever.”*_ We’re born of the Word, which means we’re children of the Word.

The Christian isn’t someone who merely switched religions, or changed his ways of doing things. A Christian is someone who’s literally born of God; born of the Word. That means the life in you is the life of the Word. You’re no longer of the corruptible seed of man. The Lord Jesus said, _*“That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit”*_ (John 3:6). You’re not of the flesh but of the Spirit.

1 John 4:4 says, _*“Ye are of God, little children….”*_ This means you hail from God; your origin is in Him. Hallelujah! This knowledge will completely transform your life and change the way you live. When you know your true identity in Christ, you’ll live victoriously every day.

The Bible says, _*“...Whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world...”*_ (1 John 5:4). Keep that in mind as you contemplate what we read in 1 Peter 1:23: _*“Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever.”*_

The Word that gave birth to you lives and abides forever. That says something about your nature, about your person; you’re absolutely invincible; you’re indestructible. You’ve overcome the world! The corruptible human life was supplanted with the Godlife, the God-nature, the instant you were born again. You’re not an ordinary person. Christ has taken up His abode in you, and you’ve become one with Him. As He is—so are you. Blessed be God!

*PRAYER*

*Blessed Father, your Word is my life! Amen.*

*FURTHER STUDY:* *||* *2 Corinthians 3:2-3* Ye are our epistle written in our hearts, known and read of all men: 3 [Forasmuch as ye are] manifestly declared to be the epistle of Christ ministered by us, written not with ink, but with the Spirit of the living God; not in tables of stone, but in fleshy tables of the heart. *||*

*||* *1 Peter 1:23 AMPC* You have been regenerated (born again), not from a mortal [a]origin ([b]seed, sperm), but from one that is immortal by the ever living and lasting Word of God. *||*

*||* *James 1:18 AMPC* And it was of His own [free] will that He gave us birth [as sons] by [His] Word of Truth, so that we should be a kind of firstfruits of His creatures [a sample of what He created to be consecrated to Himself]. *||*

He assured that the government has put in stringent measures to check future occurrence.

Muslims (MURIC) Blasts Pastor Adeboye Over 2019 Doom Message
User Avatar Forum: Politics
Posted by: Edoman - 05-14-2018, 08:51 PM - No Replies

Quote:Muslim group berates Pastor Adeboye over alleged doom messagePublished on May 14, 2018 By Seun Opejobi

The Muslim Rights Concern, MURIC, on Monday urged Nigerians to ignore the “message of doom” by the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, RCCG, Pastor Enoch Adeboye.

Adeboye had last week Friday said Nigeria may not live to see 2019 elections if religious war breaks out in the country.

The clergyman issued the warning while reacting to killings of Christians in some parts of the country.

Reaction, however, MURIC rejected Adeboye’s declaration, saying nations are not “run on prophecies and divisive messages but on industry, love, fortitude, unity, honesty and determination. ”

A statement by MURIC’s Director, Professor Ishaq Akintola, said Adeboye should refrain from making inflammatory statements.

The body also admonished the clergyman to persuade his, “Junior priests to water down their firebrand proselytisation.”

The statement reads, “MURIC The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adeboye last week warned that Nigeria as it is presently constituted may cease to exist if killings continue. He also added that 2019 elections may not hold.

“The Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) rejects this message of doom. Nations are not run on prophesies and divisive messages but on industry, love, fortitude, unity, honesty and determination.

“We recall that killings and cattle rustling did not begin yesterday. These attacks have been there since the early 60s. It was not Nigerians who were attacking themselves but cattle thieves and criminals from neighbouring countries like Niger, Chad and Mali. These invasions from other countries have continued till today due to Nigeria’s porous borders. But Nigerians exploit religious rivalry and acrobatic religiousity instead of engaging in diligent investigations. We are blaming ourselves for nothing.

“Still going along the lanes of history, a few years back Nigerian Christian leaders initially accused Muslims in the country of sponsoring Boko Haram to kill Christians. All denials fell on deaf ears. Foul language was used. Provocative statements were issued. Nigerian Muslim leaders exhibited patience throughout those terrible days. Today the picture has become clearer to the Christian leaders as Boko Haram has killed more Muslims than Christians (including an Emir) and destroyed more mosques than churches.

“The truth is that both Christians and Muslims are victims of killings, though Christians may have the advantage of media support to use killings on its side as a propaganda tool. The Nigerian media hardly hypes reports of Muslim deaths, nor do they report them correctly with their religious affiliation. Meanwhile Muslims do not use their dead victims for propaganda because, as a rule, Muslims bury their dead speedily whereas Christians delay the burial of their dead and openly display them. But the fact is that the monkey is also sweating but the hair on its skin may not allow people to see it.

“Nigeria has become a land where Shakespearean lines must be actualized: “When beggars die, there are no comets seen. The heavens themselves blow forth the death of princes.”

“Thus when Muslims are killed, the Nigerian media uses captions like “85 killed in Maiduguri Explosion” or “76 Die as Hoodlums Invade Zamfara Village”. But when Christians are killed, the language and style change. The caption is “Fulani Herdsmen Murder 22 Christians”. It is for this reason that Pastor Adeboye needs to direct his warnings at the Nigerian press, not at the government. Government is not escalating the crisis, but the press is. Their assymetrical reportage poses great danger to peaceful coexistence in a multi-religious Nigeria.

“Pastor Adeboye should also note that things are not usually what they look like from a distance. Benue militias have been caught disguised as Fulani herdsmen. None of the hoodlums caught by the military in the ongoing operation in Benue could speak Fulani language, yet they dressed like Fulani herdsmen and carried AK47 rifles.

“Fake military camps have also been exposed in the same Middle Belt. Militiamen arrested have confessed that the Christian state governors are their sponsors. So why does Adeboye refuse to acknowledge the killing of Muslims? Who are the Benue and Taraba militiamen killing?

“We appeal to Pastor Adeboye to refrain from making inflammatory statements. The Redeemed Church Overseer should also persuade his junior priests to water down their firebrand proselytisation. There is a world of difference between prayers, threats and illwill. Let us concentrate on prayers when we organize assemblies ostensibly for prayers. Let us not use such occasions to incite followers in any manner. That is criminal digression. Preachers should not just be playing to the gallery.

“As religious leaders, our influence on our followers is immense and they take our admonitions as commandments, we must therefore lead responsibly. Let Christian and Muslim leaders preach love, tolerance, forgiveness and, most especially, unity. We all stand to lose if there is war or if Nigeria breaks.

“Statements accusing government of lukewarm attitude to the ‘killing of Christians’ mislead the outside world. It paints the wrong picture and robs the Nigerian authorities of friends and allies who are willing to supply sophisticated weapons needed to stop the killings. In essence, we are cutting our noses to spite our faces. We are simply helping Boko Haram to sustain its propaganda.

“Let us therefore stop making sectarian, parochial and myopic public speeches. Let us support government’s efforts at stopping the killings. Let us appeal to foreign governments to assist our own government at home in combating terrorists and insurgents.

“On a last note, we contend that the current noise about the killing of Christians is diversionary, hypocritical and counterproductive. Both Muslims and Christians are being killed and the solution lies in uniting men and women of all faiths to face the reality on ground. We must all resolve to expose our killers. We must support our government and pray for our gallant security men who are battling the killers day and night. We must also appeal in unison to foreign powers to come to our government’s aid in the war against insurgency. The Federal Government should also strengthen the borders, particularly in the North West and North East and recruit more soldiers and policemen.”

Israeli Snipers Kill 37 Palestinians, Wound 1,300 Over US Embassy Opening

US moving embassy from Tel Aviv today after Trump recognised Jerusalem as Israel's capital in December

Israeli snipers have killed dozens of protesters near the Gaza border with more than a thousand more injured

Mass protests taking place with Palestinian government accusing Israel of committing a 'terrible massacre'
Comes after al-Qaeda chief Ayman al-Zawahiri called for group's followers to carry out jihad against the US

Russia says embassy move risks increasing Middle East tension as Turkey says US is now 'part of the problem'

The Arab League is planning to hold an extraordinary meeting to discuss America's 'illegal' embassy move

WARNING: GRAPHIC CONTENT

Israeli snipers have killed 37 Palestinians and wounded hundreds more as 35,000 protesters rallied against the US Embassy opening in Jerusalem overseen by Donald Trump's Middle East envoy Jared Kushner and daughter Ivanka.

A 14-year-old was among 37 killed along the Gaza border on what is already the deadliest single day in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict since a 2014 war between the Jewish state and Gaza's Islamist rulers Hamas.

At least 1,300 more have been injured with about 450 of them by live bullets, according to Gaza officials as the Palestinian government accused Israel of committing a 'terrible massacre' and Amnesty International called the bloodshed an 'abhorrent violation' of human rights.

This afternoon a White House delegation - including Ivanka Trump and her husband - gathered for an inauguration ceremony for the opening of the new embassy. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is also in the audience.

The US President tossed aside decades of precedent when he recognised the city as Israel's capital in December - a decision that sparked global outcry, Palestinian anger and exuberant praise from Israelis.

Russia said today it feared the embassy opening would increase tension in the Middle East while Turkey's President Tayyip Erdogan warned the US it had forfeited its role as a mediator in the region and was now 'part of the problem rather than the solution'.

As deadly clashes broke out this morning, Trump, in a tweet, hailed the opening as 'a great day for Israel'. Trump made no reference to the violence in an early morning tweet, instead inviting Twitter followers to watch live coverage of the embassy opening.

"We Are Not Lazy" Billboard In Akwa Ibom Over Buhari’s Statement In London. Pics

Since President Muhammadu Buhari reportedly made a statement at a Commonwealth event in London, about 60 per cent of Nigerian youths being lazy and entitled people, Nigerians have spilled gallons of ink trying to either prove he is right or wrong.

More than 60 per cent of the population is below 30, a lot of them haven’t been to school and they are claiming that Nigeria is an oil producing country, therefore, they should sit and do nothing, and get housing, healthcare, education free,” president Buhari was quoted as saying during a panel appearance with world leaders at the Commonwealth Business Forum in London last month.

A Facebook user who lives in Uyo, Akwa Ibom state has shared pictures of two billboards that have been erected following the president's controversial comment.

In one of the billboards, the presidency was questioned about the 3 million jobs annually that were promised to the masses.

Ekiti 2018: Fayose Reacts To Buhari’s Statement On Fayemi’s Victory

Governor of Ekiti, Ayodele Fayose has reacted to the statement by President Muhammadu Buhari to Governorship Candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr Kayode Fayemi over his victory.

Buhari had on Sunday in a statement by his spokesman, Garba Shehu congratulated Fayemi for winning the APC ticket to contest the July 14, 2018 governorship elections.

Th statement said, “President Buhari believes that Fayemi’s track record in the state as a reformist, with a penchant for building educational infrastructure and promoting the welfare of the ordinary people, will bolster his chances at the forthcoming polls.

“The President notes that the successful primaries in the state, with more than 30 aspirants, further validate the credentials of the APC on internal democracy, and its preparedness to take the country to another level of development.”

Reacting, Fayose who had earlier mocked Fayemi over his victory took to his Twitter page describing the president’s commendation as ‘day-dreaming’

Fayose urged the president to give Fayemi a position in FEC rather than congratulate him as his ambition to become Ekiti governor was dead on arrival.

He wrote “President Buhari congratulating Fayemi on his emergence as APC candidate is like day-dreaming.He will surfer another major defeat on July 14.

“Rather than congratulating him,the President should reserve his seat at the FEC because this desperation to be Ekiti governor is dead on arrival.”

“I am not an accidental candidate. The delegates know me. I didn’t have to give money to delegates, I was able to convince them on what I have consistently done.”

Speaking on Governor of Ekiti, Ayodele Fayose’s warning to him, Fayemi said “Ayo Fayose is a common enemy of my party and the common enemy of the state.

“Ayo Fayose’s name is not on the ballot, I don’t want to dwell on that.”

Kikiotolu recalls that President Muhammadu Buhari had sometime in April approved a leave of absence requested by Fayemi.

The leave was to allow the former governor of Ekiti State seek the nomination of his party, the All Progressives Congress (APC) to stand as a candidate in the July 14 governorship poll.

A Nigerian lady is lucky to be alive after being involved in an armed robbery attack yesterday night. The lady identified as Tessy Osso took to social media to reveal how the men of the underworld left her with a deep cut after using machete on her. She said the hoodlums inflicted the injury on her after they couldn't find anything to steal.

The young lady was rushed for treatment after the scary attack.

She appears to be doing well now (physically), according to information gathered online.
