AMCON records N342bn revenue, recovers N740bn loans

THE Asset Management Corporation of Nigeria (AMCON) yesterday released its financial statement for the year ended 2017, which shows revenue rising by 23 percent to N342 billion during the year.
Meanwhile corporation has recovered N740 billion loans since its inception in 2011. Analysis of the financial statement of the corporation showed that gross earnings rose by 22.6 percent to N341.83 billion in 2017 from N278.78 billion in 2016. AMCON The corporation also recorded 90 percent reduction in its loss for the year which dropped to N16.41 billion in 2017 from N164.94 billion in 2016, while profit margin improved from minus 30 percent to minus 5.0 percent. Speaking at a media parley in Lagos yesterday, Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, AMCON, Ahmed Kuru, attributed the improved performance of the corporation to the improvement in the nation’s economy. He said: “The Corporation has done very well in terms of what its mandate was, which is to bring financial stability.

We have started seeing a situation where our excess loss position is gradually reducing. So far, we have recovered an average of about 37 per cent of what we were supposed to recover. And in the best climes, the best that asset management companies have done in terms of recovery is about 50 per cent. So, if you gauge what we have done against what is obtainable internationally, you will see we have done better. “For AMCON to be performing, the economy must also be growing. If the economy is doing very well, some of those businesses that are defaulting will also be doing very well. If the economy is not doing very well, then those underlying businesses would also not be doing very well.’ N740bn loan recovered Speaking on the loan recovery efforts of the Corporation, Kuru said: “Up to the financial year of 2017, we have recovered a total of N740 billion. Of course we have a lot of substantial assets that we are holding in terms of real estate and some other forms of assets. But most fundamentally is that quite a lot of traction has been achieved over the period. “We have disposed some financial assets, which also included three banks. We are in the process of divesting our interest in Peugeot Automobile Nigeria (PAN).

This is in addition to quite a number of small businesses that we had intervened and disposed. Our intervention in the agriculture sector is in the region of about N1.7 trillion. “The structure of AMCON at conception was that, there was the assumption that those loans that were purchased would be restructured and liquidity provided so that new life would be given to some of those businesses.

Akufo-addo Never Mocked Nigeria – Bawa Replies Goodluck Jonathan
User Avatar Forum: Politics
Posted by: Edoman - 06-02-2018, 10:57 AM - No Replies

Ghana’s High Commissioner to Nigeria, Ambassador Rashid Bawa has denied claims by former Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan that Ghana’s President Akufo-Addo mocked Nigeria in a recent speech.

In a statement, Ambassador Bawa stated Mr. Akufo-Addo has always referred to Nigeria as “a country I describe as my second home in the world,” and will never use the West African country to make negative examples.

The reaction comes after Goodluck Jonathan said he is ashamed that Nigeria is now being used as a negative example in the international community by Mr. Akufo-Addo

This was in reference to comments made by Ghana’s President Akufo Addo, during a Keynote Address at the 2018 Oxford Africa Conference earlier this month.

During the speech, Mr. Akufo-Addo drew a comparison between 1980 and present-day Nigeria, addressing the need for a collective effort to address the continents challenges.

“For most of you in the audience today, it is probably before your time, but in the late 1970s up to the mid-1980s, as a result of the discovery of considerable petroleum deposits, Nigeria was booming. It was the place to be. We Ghanaians, who were going through very difficult times then, would arrive at Heathrow airport, and be herded into a cage to be subjected to the full third degree by Immigration, and we would look on as our Nigerian cousins would be waved through, with a ‘welcome sir’ and a ‘welcome madam,” Mr. Akufo-Addo said in his speech.

The comments have, however, been interpreted as disparaging by the former Head of State of the neighboring country.

Goodluck Jonathan speaking recently at the inauguration of a bridge in Ekiti State said he was embarrassed by Mr. Akufo-Addo’s comments. He added that the comments meant the current leaders of Nigeria have failed.

But Ambassador Bawa in his reaction said Goodluck Jonathan has deliberately misrepresented the comments of Mr. Akufo-Addo for political gains.

Below is the full statement by Ambassador Bawa
The attention of the Ghana High Commission in Nigeria, and, indeed, of the President of the Republic of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has been drawn to comments made by the former President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, His Excellency Goodluck Jonathan, to the effect that President Akufo-Addo has made disparaging remarks about Nigeria.

It is important to stress that the comments made by the former Nigerian President, at the inauguration of the first bridge built by Governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti State in Ado Ekiti, took the words of President Akufo-Addo completely out of context.

Indeed, in the speech delivered by President Akufo-Addo at the Oxford African Conference, one of the instances used by former President Goodluck Jonathan, these are the exact words of President Akufo-Addo:

‘For most of you in the audience today, it is probably before your time, but in the late 1970s up to the mid-1980s, as a result of the discovery of considerable petroleum deposits, Nigeria was booming. It was the place to be. We Ghanaians, who were going through very difficult times then, would arrive at Heathrow airport, and be herded into a cage to be subjected to the full third degree by Immigration, and we would look on as our Nigerian cousins would be waved through, with a ‘welcome sir’ and a ‘welcome madam’.

The newspaper headlines in this country were full of Nigerians leaving or forgetting bundles of money in taxis and telephone booths. Nigerians were the preferred tenants for those who had apartments to let. You could stop by any Thomas Cook shop on any High Street in this country and buy or sell Naira, the Nigerian currency, and you could do the same in New York, and I suspect in many other Western country cities.

I do not need to spell out today’s reality to anyone in this audience. I cite this just to make the point that the “the outside world” is well able to tell that there are separate sovereign nations on the African continent. But, when the news is not good, then Africa is treated as one entity.”

How, then, can anyone describe these words by President Akufo-Addo as intending to mock Nigeria?

Again, the other alleged remark that “Ghana is not Nigeria where cattle can roam about anyhow” has never been made by President Akufo-Addo. That is not his way of speaking.

President Akufo-Addo, in many of the speeches he has made in Nigeria and elsewhere, since becoming President of Ghana, has described Nigeria as “a country I describe as my second home in the world”, and will never use Nigeria to make negative examples, as the former President Goodluck Jonathan sought to portray.

President Akufo-Addo enjoys a very good relationship with President Muhammadu Buhari, as he has with many other Nigerian leaders. Ghana and Nigeria are like siblings, and it would be most inappropriate, because of politics, for anyone, regardless of his or her status in society, to try to sow seeds of discord amongst the leadership and peoples of our two countries.

Ekweremadu: Why Age Limit For Senate, Governorship Were Retained
User Avatar Forum: Politics
Posted by: Edoman - 06-02-2018, 10:55 AM - No Replies

Quote:IKE Ekweremadu, the deputy president of the Nigerian Senate, has explained why the age limit for governorship and senate were retained in the ‘Not Too Young To Run’ bill recently signed into law.

His explanation is a direct response to the demands of the Not Too Young To Run Movement which on Friday, called on members of the National Assembly to review its vote on the age qualification for the senate and governorhip.

The head of the movement, Samson Itodo, said the review should be in tandem with its initial proposal which put the age qualification for governor and senate at 30 years.

It described the retention of the 35 years for both offices as “unfortunate and disappointing” as it urged the National Assembly to revisit its vote.

President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday gave his assent to the bill passed by the National Assembly last year.

Qualifying age for the Presidency, which used to be 40 years, has now been reduced to 35 with the age for governor and senate retained at 35 years contrary to the demands of the movement.

Mr Buhari said in the bill presented to him for assent, there was no reduction in the age requirement for the office of senators and governors, indicating that age would still be left at 35. He said he hoped it will be looked after eventually.

Mr Ekweremadu, on Friday, explained that the 35 years age qualification for the Senate and governorship was retained to correct the initial disparity in the 1999 Constitution between the age requirement for the Senate and the Presidency.

He said the National Assembly reasoned that going by the provisions of Section 146 of the 1999 Constitution as amended, the president of the Senate could hold the office of the President for a period not exceeding three months should the offices of the President and Vice President be vacant at the same time for any reason.

In a statement signed by his Special Adviser on Media, Uche Anichukwu, Mr Ekweremadu explained that Section 146 (1) provides that the Vice-President shall hold the office of President if the office of President becomes vacant by reason of death or resignation, impeachment, permanent incapacity or the removal of the President from office for any other reason in accordance with section 143 of the Constitution.

“However, Section 146 (2) further provides that where any vacancy occurs in the circumstances mentioned in Sub-section 1 during a period when the office of Vice-President is also vacant, the President of the Senate shall hold the office of President for a period of not more than three months, during which there shall be an election of a new President, who shall hold office for the unexpired term of office of the last holder of the office’.

“So, since the President of the Senate, a Senator, could become an Acting President by happenstance, it is only right that the qualification for both offices are the same.

“However, the Not-Too-Young-To-Run amendment is just one giant step forward. It is not the end of the road, but just the beginning of the road. It is not an end in itself, but a means to an end.

“I believe that anyone, who is 18 years old and qualified to vote should also be qualified to stand for an election. This is our ultimate target and I believe we will get there. So, it is work in progress because constitution amendment is a continuum,” he said.

The deputy senate president urged the youths to mobilise into the political parties in their numbers to begin to influence party decisions, push for direct primary elections, internal democracy, level playing ground, and other reforms that will complement the provisions of the current millage achieved by way of the Not-Too-Young-To-Run amendment.

Two brothers have landed in a hospital after being allegedly brutalized by a policeman in Ovwian town, Delta State. According to reports, the brothers were injured by the officer while arguing between themselves at Victory View hotel along Udu road in the area. Israel Joe who shared the story, reveled that the police took responsibility for their action and took the victims to the hospital for treatment.

Below is what he shared on Facebook;

The police in OVWIAN division has continued to brutalised innocent citizen instead of dealing with the endless killings perpetuated by cultists in the area.

Just yesterday they again shot at two innocent brothers who were engaged in mutual argument with themselves at Victory View hotels, Udu Road.

While we are satisfied with the police taking responsibility of the treatment of the boys, we are calling on the Delta State Police Command to investigate and execute acute disciplinary actions on the sergeant who have unconsciously decided to drag the name of the police in Delta state to the mud.

Cdhr in Delta state led by Prince Kehinde Comr Prince Taiga led a team of comrades to the hospital where the brothers are receiving treatment and have vowed to ensure the case is not swept under the carpet.

God bless Nigeria.

Pictures have emerged showing foreigners proudly rocking the beautiful Super Eagles' jersey after it sold out today worldwide. After Nike received 3 million pre-orders, Nigeria’s World Cup kit was officially released for sale on Friday, June 1. Outside NikeTown in London, fans lined down Oxford Street and round the corner to purchase the kit.

The kit, which was available for sale online quickly sold out with many buyers unable to add to their cart.

As a result of the demand, fans flocked to Nike Town opposite Oxford Circus tube station in hope of having a jersey of their own.

Nike UK also said there were no plans to restock.

The home jersey which goes for about 41,000 naira in Nigeria was first worn in the friendly against Poland in March. The home jersey was worn again in the match against DR Congo.

However, fake replicas of the jersey has flooded the market before the official launch with reports claiming about 3 million of the fake jersey was already on sale.

Shortly after the long awaited jersey arrived, the senator made the tweet below:

Quote:Just imagine if those 3 million Nigerian Super Eagles jerseys were made by a firm in Aba rather than @Nike. Aba tailors have the capacity to produce them. We just lost an opportunity to infuse at least $100 million into the Nigerian economy and provide jobs for our youths.

Segun Oni: "Why Fayemi May Not Win Governorship Election"
User Avatar Forum: Politics
Posted by: Edoman - 06-02-2018, 10:36 AM - No Replies

Segun Oni, former Governor of Ekiti State has expressed doubt over the possibility of the All Progressives Congress, APC, governorship candidate, Kayode Fayemi winning the July 14 election.

Oni, who was an aspirant on the platform of APC, said Fayemi may not win the election because the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and incumbent deputy governor, Prof Kolapo Olusola Eleka, alongside Governor Ayodele Fayose were reaching out to people of the state.

In a statement issued signed by the Director General (DG) of his Campaign Organization, Dr Ife Arowosoge, Oni lamented that people were gradually leaving APC for PDP in Ekiti State.

According to Oni, “It is for Fayemi himself to warn his supporters to desist from such image boosting but dangerous campaigns, which are still going on now.

“The July 14 governorship election, which is about 5 weeks away will not be such a Tea Party with Governor Ayodele Fayose, a second term governor and De Facto candidate of PDP who has been campaigning now for more than one year.

“For those who care to know, Fayose controls all the 16 local governments with the second set of elected officials. When Fayose was involved in voter registration drive in every local government in Ekiti, our Minister was staying in his Ivory Tower in Abuja.

“Some people are today leaving the APC because they feel their interests cannot be protected by the APC candidate because of his style and disposition towards this coming election.

“Some who are not moving out of the party are even saying they may “sitdown look” and stay aloof for another four years.

“We know of 2 local governments in the state, where the APC members are threatening to move out en masse for the same reason.

“We have read the rebuttal of Mr Wole Olujobi/JKFCO to our plea for unity and inclusiveness of Chief Segun Oni and other contestants in the campaign for the July 14 governorship election. We were not quick at replying because we never wanted to at all, but because of the continued but unwarranted attacks on the Segun Oni Team, which was what our original release meant to stop and to unite and tie us together like a bunch of brooms which is the symbol of our great party, we have to make ourselves very clear on some new points raised by the rejoinder of Mr Wole Olujobi on behalf of the Campaign Organisation of JKF.

“We wonder if Mr. Wole Olujobi really knows or cares about the enormity of the danger his words and actions and those of people like him as supporters of Dr. Kayode Fayemi have started creating for our party?

“If Dr. Kayode Fayemi thinks, he can win the governorship election the way he won the primary election, we wish him luck. But as a party, APC should not be deceiving itself.

“We know that the July 14 election will be decided by these people and not by just 941 delegates who voted for Fayemi during the primary and who is just a fraction of the Civil Servants or Teachers, not to talk of other aggrieved sectors in the State.

“But Segun Oni and his Team, around whom such powerful goodwill of electability by Ekiti Electorate is woven, is gradually been ostracized out of the APC in the state. Our fear and concern is that the above potent a gloomy prognostication for a successful governorship election.”

Governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose has reacted to the shooting at the All Progressive Congress, APC, rally for the party’s candidate, Kayode Fayemi.

Quote:Fayemi is having in all these challenges because of his desperation. It is instructive that there was chaos at the APC primary election and his return to Ekiti today brought bloodshed to a once peaceful Ekiti State. Those whom the gods want to destroy, they first make mad.

I sympathize with victims of today's shootings by armed policemen that Fayemi and his APC invaded our State with and I have directed adequate treatment of the injured ones that are receiving treatment at the State University Teaching Hospital.

RHAPSODY OF REALITIES

SATURDAY, 2ND JUNE.

WORSHIP IN THE SPIRIT.

Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord (Ephesians 5:19).

The term “spiritual songs” in the scripture above really doesn’t mean the spirituality of the songs in terms of their content, but that they’re songs of the spirit. It’s the same thing the Apostle Paul was talking about when he said, “For if I pray in an unknown tongue, my spirit prayeth, but my understanding is unfruitful.

What is it then? I will pray with the spirit, and I will pray with the understanding also: I will sing with the spirit, and I will sing with the understanding also” (1 Corinthians 14:14-15).
Singing with the spirit is singing in other tongues.

These songs come out of your spirit, not from your understanding. It’s similar to the way you yield your tongue to the Holy Spirit to pray in tongues, only that this time, you’re singing in other tongues and worshipping the Lord.
Jesus said, “God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth” (John 4:24). Worshipping in the spirit is higher. That’s the climax. You may sing and worship the Lord in your understanding, and that’s okay, but ascend higher; sing songs from your spirit; worship and relate from your spirit; it’s a deeper fellowship.

The latter part of our opening scripture says, “…singing and making melody in your heart TO THE LORD.” Your songs of the spirit aren’t to the congregation or to any individual. Those listening to you may not like the way the songs sound, but you’re not singing to them; you’re singing to the Lord! It’s like praying in tongues; it’s not unto men but unto God (1 Corinthians 14:2). It brings about a divine exchange; as your spirit is passing words in the spirit to God, the Holy Ghost is passing information to your spirit.
When you finish such sessions of fellowship with the Spirit, you’re literally on top of the world; no challenges move you, because your spirit has gained the dominion! At that point, you know without a doubt that you’re more than a conqueror, a victor for life!

Learn to function in the spirit, with your spirit, and by the Holy Spirit. Christianity is a life of the spirit, lived from the inside out.

PRAYER

Blessed Lord, your glory fills the earth, and your righteousness is upon the nations! Splendour and majesty are before you; strength and joy are in your dwelling place. You’ve beautified my life and anointed me to proclaim your love, mercies and grace; I’ll sing of your love forever, and of your faithfulness that’s ever sure. Blessed be your Name forever.

FAAN says reports of assault credited to Mrs. Amaechi are false

FEDERAL Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has dispelled a report making rounds that its staff was physically assaulted by the wife of the Honourable Minister of Transportation, Mrs Judith Amaechi at the Port a Harcourt Airport.
In a statement by the airport authority, “Our attention has been drawn to a trending story to the effect that the wife of the Honourable Minister of Transportation, Mrs Judith Amaechi supervised the assault and manhandling of some airport officials on the 26th May 2018, because she was refused boarding an Air Peace flight from Port Harcourt to Abuja.”
“The Authority will like to state emphatically that the incident has nothing to do with the Honourable Minister’s wife, it was between some security personnel at the airport and airline officials.”
An online medium had reported that Mrs. Judith Amaechi arrived late to board a flight and after being told that she and her entourage were late and tried to force the flight from taking off by barricading it while her armed aides beat up a ground staff at the airport.

AON calls on govt to honour zero tariff on aircraft spares, remove VAT
User Avatar Forum: Travel/Aviation
Posted by: Edoman - 06-01-2018, 07:20 PM - No Replies

AIRLINE Operators of Nigeria (AON) last night queried a myriad of ‘unfriendly’ policies they face as operators and how the harsh operating environment comprising VAT, Customs duty, TSC/CSC has stunted their growth.
The operators comprising Chief Executives of various airlines in the country stated therefore that in order to save the industry from impending collapse the above issues threatening the well-being of the industry need to be addressed.
Chairman of the AON, Captain Nogie Meggison declared that government had provided for Zero Customs Duty on Commercial aircraft , spares and engines however, in 2018 the industry is yet to fully benefit from this provision with airlines having some of their aircraft fleet grounded for days in some cases.
He said,”The government has provided for Zero Customs Duty on Commercial Aircraft, Spares and Engines. Unfortunately, in 2018 the industry is yet to fully benefit from this provision.”

Roland Iyayi, during the AON Media briefing on the State of the Aviation Industry and to Announce that AON will Stop of Remittance of VAT to the Government on 14 June 2018 in Lagos.yesterday Photo: Sunday Eshiet.
“This has resulted in airlines having some of their aircraft fleet grounded for days in some cases, thereby resulting in cancelled flights which in event results in chaos at our airports to the displeasure of our esteemed customers. This situation is unacceptable and should be reversed forthwith.”
He called on Federal government to immediately institute the necessary mechanisms to ensure that the Customs Duty Waiver to Commercial airline operators as proposed and agreed should be fully effected.
The AON again decried what it termed as unfair, a situation where Value Added Tax (VAT) is imposed on airlines and not other modes of transportation stating that it adversely affects domestic travel.
Megisson further decried that even some airlines were being exempted from the tax making it worse and unfair.
“Nigerian Domestic Airline Travel is the only mode of transportation that is subjected to the Value Added Tax (VAT). This imposition creates a suppression of domestic airline travel demand; therefore resulting in airlines not being able to optimally utilize their aircraft assets and more importantly creating a market distortion.”
“The AON’s position is that the VAT on airline ticket sales for domestic carriers must be removed completely forthwith as road transportation, rail, marine and international air travel carriers are not subjected to VAT.”
“Moreover, a situation whereby some airlines are paying VAT while some other privileged airlines are not paying VAT and the VAT which we pay is being used to subsidize our competitors against those that are making payment is unfair.”

Ebola Outbreak: Screening of inbound passengers still on at airports
User Avatar Forum: Travel/Aviation
Posted by: Edoman - 06-01-2018, 07:18 PM - No Replies

EFFORTS to ensure that the dreaded Ebola Disease Virus (EDV) does not find its way into the shores of Nigeria through its major gateways, concerned authorities have put in place more sophisticated methods of tracking and detecting symptoms of the virus as passengers arrive the country.
Nigerianflightdeck.com visited the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) where our correspondent watched first hand the screening of inbound passengers on board Kenya Airways flight through collaborative efforts from the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), Port Health as well as other agencies.
According to feeder reports from Abuja and Kano, the same screening process is being carried out across board and is having maximum impact in tracking passengers and quarantine then for secondary observation.
Technologically speaking, government has put in place a thermal camera, able to pick the passengers and it is being monitored in case there is a spike in the temperature registered on the screen.
Thermal camera at the screening area of MMIA.
This is in addition to the infrared thermometer scanners shaped like hand guns used by officials of the Port Health to scan the passengers individually as they line up.
Ag. General Manager, Medical FAAN, Dr. Ayotunde Kehinde who went through what actually happens during screening said that there are scanners now provided for the initial identification of any communicable disease.
According to him, concerted efforts between FAAN and other medical agencies are in place already and screening is being done as flights come into the Lagos Airport.
” There are scanners provided for the issue of prevention of communicable diseases. The scanners have been mounted already and as the passengers file in the device reads their temperature and body vitals and it is recorded. If the scanner picks up anything higher than normal, the passenger is kept aside for secondary analysis to determine whether it is just a common fever or something higher. This is not like the way it used to be.”
” However, as an airport authority we have also ensured that we do the most important kind of health which is preventive health by installing hand sanitizer around the restrooms and other areas of the airports.”
Port Health officials screening arriving passengers at the MMIA for communicable diseases
Uko Eze, from UAE, it is good and a normal thing that people are being screened. They did same in the UAE and they have done same here.”
Nnamdi John who arrived from Dubai via Kenya said he did not experience a screening in Kenya but in UAE he heard of the outbreak in the Congo and was glad he experienced government doing something about it.”
Airport Manager MMIA, Mrs. Victoria Shinaba who spoke to our correspondent on what the airport authority is doing , said the roles have not changed since the last outbreak of the virus and that reports that screening is not asking place is not true stating that the there are two thermal cameras at Delta and Echo Arrival Wings of the airport.
Mrs. Shinaba said that the reports only showed immigration and did not get to the secure area where people are screened further stating that the authority went through a mock exercise and that they
She said, ” we have a Public emergency program in placement that is standard with ICAO practice and we follow that.”
“We also have the Thermal screener since the last Ebola. Once anyone with body temperature is picked. A mock audit was carried out two weeks ago. A passenger came in from Ghana with high temperature and we were able to pick him up”
“We added the thermal so people can see.. Shown immigration screening not port health screening. Assures that no one with anything can come into the country without being seen. We have a public health emergency plan, even at the heat of Ebola we were not isolating people because before you know it will bring spirit of insecurity.”

Nigeria Loses N224 Billion Revenue To IPOB Sit-At-Home Order - The Guardian

Quote:Nigeria loses N224 billion revenue to IPOB sit-at-home order

*BZF members to be arraigned today

Nigeria may have lost about N224 billion to the sit–at-home called by the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) on Wednesday to commemorate the slain Biafran supporters. The revelation came as stakeholders and experts put revenue loss of the southeast zone over the one day sit-at-home to over N40 billion, as the zone relies heavily on buying and selling for its sustenance.

Also, the police said yesterday that the 21 members of the Biafra Zionists Federation (BZF) arrested on Wednesday for attempt to declare Biafra independence and forceful seizure of Enugu government house would be arraigned in court today.IPOB’s Publicity Secretary, Emma Powerful, told The Guardian that Wednesday’s sit at home dealt a big blow on the economy as it brought commerce to its knees, adding that it would take over one week to recover what the economy lost.

“How do you want to aggregate it, is it in terms of goods that are brought into this zone or the ones that are produced that did not get to their destinations or the unseen businesses that the people engaged in? We know what situations like this can cause and the Nigerian government cannot say it is not pained by the loss”, he said.A former dean of study in the law faculty of the Enugu State University of Science and Technology, Prof. Gab Agu, said the action had adverse effect on the economy of the southeast zone, insisting that it should not be allowed to reoccur.

A lecturer in the Economics Department, University of Nigeria Nsukka (UNN), Sam Agu, said the action affected the average GDP of the zone in terms of revenue and production.Former Director General of the National Orientation Agency (NOA), Prof. Elo Amucheazi, said the sit-at-home was an indication of how the people feel about the situation of the county, stressing that they did this by restricting their services to the growth of the economy.

He called for actions that would address grievances and other feelings of the people, stressing that the exercise succeeded even with the threats from the various governments and agencies in the zone.A public analyst and businessman in Onitsha, Dr. Anayo Onwukwe said that Onitsha alone lost over N10 million revenue. He stated that the volume of business, which the commercial city was noted for daily, was reduced to nothing.

Chief Okwy Nnamani, one of the officials of the Ogbete main market put their loss of revenue at over two million naira, saying however that they were happy to pay the “sacrifice for our fallen heroes and heroines.’’The traders at Ariaria market in Aba would prefer to keep their revenue loss close to their chest. Their chairman, Mr. Lucky when contacted said he would not like to talk about it, especially when “nobody was forced to engage in it.”

In a statement however, IPOB said: “it is with a great sense of history and gratitude to all Biafrans that we observed this year’s event with resounding success across Biafraland and all over the world. That it succeeded despite all odds and machinations of the enemy will make it go down in annals of history as confirmation that IPOB under the leadership of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu is exceptionally indefatigable and the dominant force across the entire East not just Igboland. It is also confirmation that the vast majorities of our people are with IPOB and remain committed to our collective pursuit of self determination for all.

Notooyoung Bill: You Are Too Old To Run - Fayose To Buhari
User Avatar Forum: Politics
Posted by: Edoman - 06-01-2018, 06:32 PM - No Replies

Quote:Ekiti State governor, Ayo Fayose has reacted to the Not Too Young Bill President Buhari yesterday signed into law.

According to him the bill is not in favor of President Buhari, stating that he is too old to run in 2019 and should give way for younger Nigerians to take over.

Fayose stated this in a series of tweets he made this morning via his official twitter handle.

His tweets reads..

The future of Nigeria belongs to the youths and we must handover the country to them without restrictions. If at 18, you are old enough to choose, you must also be seen as old enough to be chosen.

Today in Ekiti, the PDP Deputy governorship candidate is 39 year old. He became chairman of Ado LG at 35. On the contrary, the APC deputy governorship candidate is 74 year old. He was chairman of Ado LG 25 years ago.

Lastly, our President who signed the "Not Too Young To Run" should be reminded that at his very old age, he is also "Too old To Run." He should leave the stage for the younger generation of Nigerians.

Nigeria:Minister's Wife's Aides Accused of Assaulting Airline Staff
User Avatar Forum: Travel/Aviation
Posted by: Edoman - 06-01-2018, 06:28 PM - No Replies

Port Harcourt International Airport.
By Bassey Udo
Judith Amaechi, wife of Minister of Transportation, Chubuike Amaechi, was at the centre of a melee on Saturday at the Port Harcourt International Airport.
This occurred when she and her entourage arrived late for boarding an Abuja bound Air Peace Airline flight and thereafter attempted to force it from taking off without them.
Reports said Mrs Amaechi's entourage formed a human barricade to prevent the fully boarded aircraft from taking off while her armed security aides beat up two of the airline's ground staff for not allowing their principal board the flight.
The affected ground staff were Confidence Elechi, an aviation security station Coordinator/Supervisor, and Innocent Ekot, a flight dispatcher.
According a report by the Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), two officials of its Customer Care Service/SERVICOM unit on duty, Otobo Edward, and the FAAN Marshaller, Promise Nsirim, were also assaulted by the angry aides when they tried to intervene.
The report by the Crime Investigation/Intelligence Unit of FAAN at the Port Harcourt International Airport said Mrs Amaechi supervised the brutalisation of the officials and directed her aides to seize their staff identity cards, telephones and FAAN on-duty-cards.
The report made available to PREMIUM TIMES on Wednesday in Abuja, said the minister's wife accused the airline staff and FAAN officials of being agents of political opponents sent to frustrate her travelling.
"Not even the FAAN security, nor Airforce personnel at the airport at the time of the incident could do anything to stop the beating of the officials," the report said.
The airline's management, the brutalised staff and other FAAN officials at the airport have all made their reports detailing what happened.
In his report, FAAN Chief Security Officer in charge of the Crime Investigation/Intelligence Unit at the airport, R.A. Ameh, blamed Mrs Amaechi's protocol staff for failure to coordinate with the airline and monitor flight proceedings at the airport for their principal.
FAAN said although the minister's wife arrived the airport early enough for her flight, No APK7296, scheduled to depart Port Harcourt for Abuja at 18.00 hrs. (6.00 p.m.), she was holding meetings at the VIP Lounge till after boarding formalities had been completed and the aircraft door shut.
Findings by FAAN showed that although the aircraft, 5N-BUL, landed Port Harcourt International Airport about 10 minutes behind schedule at about 17.40 hrs, flight boarding began at about 17.48 hrs.
At the time boarding formalities were completed about half an hour later at about 18.18 hrs, the report said about 56 passengers had boarded.
The final boarding call was at about 18.20 hrs, before the NAHCOL motorised staircase was removed and the aircraft door ordered finally shut by the Captain .
A FAAN safety official in charge of the VIP lounge area at the airport, Aluebhose Jonathan, said in his report that Mrs Amaechi safely accessed the VIP lounge screening point at about 18.31 hrs, more than 30 minutes after the aircraft door had been shut and boarding proceeding closed.
The FAAN report said Mrs Amaechi had arrived with a retinue of aides "not less than 13", consisting personal staff, mobile police, plain clothe security operatives and protocol personnel.
Minister of transportation, Rotimi Amaechi and wife, Judith Amaechi [Photo: Sahara Reporters]
On getting to the foot of the aircraft, Mr Jonathan said the protocol staff were told Mrs Amaechi and her entourage were late for boarding.

The pilot, Stephen Akinsete, rejected entreaties to reopen the door for the minister's wife and her entourage to board, as the engine of the aircraft was almost at full steam preparatory for take-off.
Desperate to force the flight captain to allow them board the flight, PREMIUM TIMES learnt the protocol staff and the security men on the entourage formed a human barricade in front of the aircraft to stop it from leaving if they were not allowed to board.
"All pleas by the airline's ground staff for them to leave the tarmac fell on deaf ears. They were very unruly and unwilling to listen to any explanations why they should not go close to the aircraft's engine, which had already started running. They started beating and manhandling us like common criminals.
"Even the FAAN Marshall and another FAAN customer care officer who tried to plead with them to leave the tarmac were also beaten up. They also collected our staff ID cards, On-Duty-Card and CUG phones, took picture, videos and accused us of working for the opposition," Mr Elechi recounted in his statement.
In a petition to the Regional Manager, FAAN in Port Harcourt, the Chief Security Officer, Air Peace Airlines, Akinbola Monsuru, on behalf of the airline, frowned at the maltreatment of its staff by aides of the Minister's wife.
Air Peace
Mr Monsuru said the FAAN Flight Marshaller had a tough time trying to convince Mrs Amaechi and her angry orderlies to stay away from the rolling aircraft engines.
He called on relevant authorities at the airport to intervene and call the Minister's wife and others involved to order, as the airline considered the incident a serious security breach.

Mr Ekot said in his report that on approaching Mrs Amaechi to explain to her what happened, she instructed her orderly to seize their staff identity cards, official phones and on-duty-card.
He said the items had not been returned to them as at the time of this report.
"Besides, despite attempts at about 19.10 hrs on that day to arrange an alternative flight for her later, it was too late as the only Arik airline flight to Abuja had also completed boarding.
"This is not the first time she will be coming for boarding late. She has done so on three other occasions. The only difference is that on those other occasions, her protocol staff came ahead to plead. This time, they failed to coordinate with the airline to monitor the flight proceedings," Mr Ekot lamented.
Mrs Amaechi does not have a known spokesperson to comment for this report.
This reporter got in touch with David Iyofor, the spokesperson of the Minister of Transportation, for his assistance to connect this newspaper with Mrs Amaechi.
After reading the text message message sent to him on why we wanted to speak with Mrs Amaechi, Mr Iyofor called back to ask that the publication of the report be delayed tlll the following day to enable him get her reaction and issue a statement.
At the time of filing this report at about 2 p.m. on Thursday, neither Mrs Amaechi nor Mr Iyofor had responded as promised.
Hours later, at 7:11PM Thursday, the spokesperson to the minister sent a statement to this reporter quoting Mr. Amaechi's wife as denying being part of the assault on the aviation workers.
"The statement said, "The wife of the Minister of Transportation is not aware of what you are talking about. She left the tarmac after she was denied entry into the Air Peace aircraft in spite of the fact that she was at the airport early, for over one hour before the scheduled departure time of the flight and the flight was delayed.
"She was already walking towards the aircraft to board the flight when the aircraft door was suddenly shut and the stairway moved away from the aircraft. She did not asked anyone to assault any airport or Air Peace staff at the airport.
"She did not see anyone brutalize anyone at the airport. She left the tarmac after she was denied boarding the Air Peace aircraft unjustifiably by Air Peace staff. We want to also refer you to the official statement by the airport managers, FAAN on the issue."

Teenager Sells Brother To Ritual Killer To Pay Bride Price In Niger State
User Avatar Forum: Other Stories
Posted by: Edoman - 06-01-2018, 03:18 PM - No Replies

Quote:By Dan Atori 

Police in Niger State have arrested a teenager for allegedly selling his six-year-old brother to a ritual killer for N20,000.

The 19-year-old suspect, Aliyu Basala Yakutchi, without mincing words, confessed to have sold his kid brother, Yamusa Ibrahim Yakutchi, to ritual killer in order to raise money to pay his wife’s bride price. The incident was said to have occurred about 10 days ago.

Aliyu, from Nagenu village in Katcha Local Government Area, sold his brother to 30-year-old Legbo, from Afuwagi village in Mokwa Local Government Area. Police disclosed that Legbo was presently on the run. Aliyu, who claimed to be the third among his mother’s six children, said that he sold his brother on credit.

Aliyu, who apparently didn’t know or understand the gravity of his action, pleaded with the police to release him unconditionally so that he could go and tend to his farm.

He said: “I decided to sell my younger brother for N20,000 on credit so that I can raise money to pay for the bride price of my 14-year-old lover.

I took my younger brother, Yamusa, to Malam Legbo for money rituals because he promised to pay me N20,000 if he succeeded in using him for money rituals.

I wanted to use the money to finance my marriage to Fatimah. Our father is dead, but our mother is still alive, her name is Hajiya Yakure.

“Prior to my arrest by the police, I had not been paid by Legbo. The money might not even be enough for my marriage requirements.” Asked the whereabouts of Legbo, Aliyu said: “I think he ran away with my brother when he got the information that the police were looking for him.

I blame the devil for pushing me into hatching this evil plan against my brother. I don’t even know where Legbo has taken my brother to.” While exonerating Fatimah from the crime, Aliyu noted: “She does not know about my evil plan to sell my little brother to offset her bride price.

I’m a farmer and a bachelor. I got enrolled into an Islamic school during my childhood days but my parents couldn’t afford to send me to school. I only speak our local dialect, Nupe language; I cannot speak or understand Hausa language too.”

As at the time of filing this report, the whereabouts of Legbo and Yamusa were still unknown. The police had already paid a visit to Legbo’s village, but met a cold trail.

Ekiti Governorship: APC Buying Voters’ Cards, Culprits Arrested – PDP
User Avatar Forum: Retired Forums. Please Make Your Post Within The 3 Forums In General Discussion
Posted by: Edoman - 06-01-2018, 03:16 PM - No Replies

The campaign organization of the Ekiti State Deputy Governor and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate, Prof Kolapo Olusola Eleka, has called for greater vigilance among voters in the State against agents of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

It claimed they were going round the state buying Voters’ Cards.

The campaign organization said it was alarmed at the report of the arrest of one Miss Ogunyemi Temitope, who led a group of people to Aiyede Ekiti to collect more than 30 voters cards and account numbers from unsuspecting electorates, questioning why the APC was desperate to prevent people from voting on the election day.

Director of Media and Publicity of Kolapo Olusola Campaign Organisation, Lere Olayinka, said in a statement on Thursday, that the said Ogunyemi Temitope was apprehended by vigilant people of Aiyede-Ekiti, Oye Local Government Area at about 12 noon today, Thursday, while collecting voters cards and making copies of same and at the same time collecting account numbers.

Olayinka said; “Today, eagle-eyed people of Aiyede-Ekiti apprehended one Ogunyemi Temitope and her accomplices, who were buying voters card. They were taken to the palace of the Attah of Aiyede Ekiti, Oba Oba Abdumumini Orisagbemi, from where they were moved to the Aiyede Ekiti police station.

“The lady, who claimed to be an election observer, was said to have collected voters cards and account numbers of more than 30 people, promising that N28, 000 will be paid into their bank accounts. She said that buying of voters cards under the guise of election observers was being done across the State that those whose voters cards were collected in exchange for N28, 000 will not be able to vote.

“Some of the cards already collected belonged to Adebiyi Adekunle, with his UBA Account number 2077932145, Omotoso Abiodun, Ajayi Taiwo Amos, Bamidele Funmilayo, Fayose Mary, Ojo Emmanuel Kehinde, Irewole Yinka Motun, Olowokere Titilayo, Ojo Bamidele Oluwaseun and others.

“It later took the intervention of the Attah of Aiyede Ekiti and the Olumojo of Imojo Ekiti, Oba, who visited the police station for Ogunyemi Temitope and her collaborators to be released with strong warning never to come to Aiyede Ekiti and its environs again.

“It should be noted that we have earlier raised the alarm over a Form being distributed by the APC under the guise of Ekiti Development Front, purportedly for empowerment. It is one of the sinister plots by
the APC to deactivate voters card, thereby preventing thousands of electorate from voting on July 14, 2018.

“The evil plot is aimed at first collecting Voters Cards numbers and later asking for submission of original Voters Cards for Biometric Exercise so as to be qualified for the fake empowerment scheme.

“Ekiti people are therefore urged not to surrender their voters cards to anyone under any guise.”he campaign organization of the Ekiti State Deputy Governor and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate, Prof Kolapo Olusola Eleka, has called for greater vigilance among voters in the State against agents of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

“Ekiti people are therefore urged not to surrender their voters cards to anyone under any guise.”

Yesterday, about 300,000 cartridges that were concealed and smuggled in trucks into Nigeria through the Benin Republic border. The cartridges were concealed in a false base of three heavy-duty trucks and had successfully gone past borders until they were intercepted at Igbogila-Ilara area of Ogun State.

The trucks were intercepted in Balogun village, near Egua in Yewa North Local Government Area of Ogun, by military officers attached to the 35 Artillery Brigade of 81 Division, Nigerian Army in Alamala, Abeokuta, Ogun State.

According to reports, the drivers and crew members fled, upon closer inspection, the trucks were deemed empty until the security operatives unearthed the large cache of ammunition. When they opened the metal cover, hundreds of cartons of cartridges of the 12-calibre were found concealed underneath.

The smugglers, allegedly aided by some policemen, tried to deceive security operatives to smuggle the three truckloads of arms and ammunition into the country, through the Ogun State land border.

The smugglers had declared the trucks as empty with the aim of deceiving officials of the Nigerian Customs Service at Owode-Ilaro Road in Ogun, but the officers suspected foul play and played smart on the smugglers’ team, which include some policemen in uniform.

China Unveils 26-Storeys Automated Garage To Stop Street Parking (Photos)

Searching, manoeuvring and parallel parking a car onthe busy streets of China might soon be a thing of the past.

A 26-storey smart garage with a fully automated parking system has recently been gaining popularity among drivers in Taiyuan city in north China.

The building, covered with glass panels, takes up only 624 square feet (58 square metres) and can fit 50 vehicles.

'With a little bit of creativity, we were able to utilise the limited land space,' founder of the Chinese company behind the project, Bo Xiaoming, told Mail Online.'

A small space that could originally only fit three cars can now fit 50,' he said, adding that all 20 parking spaces designated for SUVs have been taken up every day.

Video footage of the 177-foot-tall (54-metre-tall) garage in operation shows an SUV being lifted and transported in a large elevator after the driver parked the car on the ground floor entrance.

The system automatically shuttles the vehicles to their assigned spot in the building with the push of a button.

Upon retrieval, drivers would just need to scan a QR code with their phones to 'summon' their vehicle back to the same spot.

The system can identify the corresponding licence plate and deliver the vehicle back to the ground floor.

'Retrieving the car on the highest floor only takes 70 seconds,' Mr Bo said.

Developed by his transport tech company Shanxi Huabo Technology, the garage has been open to the public since last December.

The valet robot is available to the public for 5 yuan (£0.59) per hour, or 50 yuan (£5.9) per day.

'Not only does this facilitates and quickens the process of parking, it is also very environmentally friendly as it saves space and omits emissions,' Mr Bo added.

In the unlikely event of a power failure, the building is equipped with adual-circuit power supply and a backup generator.

On-site operators would then manually pick up the car for the owners.

The company has plans to expand the smart garage project around and to other cities in China.

UK drivers spend an average of 44 hours a year searching for parking, at a cost of £733 each in wasted time, fuel and emissions, according to traffic data company Inrix.

This makes up to a total of £23.3 billion wasted across the country, the research company added.

Morning Devotional For Friday 1st June

RHAPSODY OF REALITIES DAILY DEVOTIONAL

*TAKE CHARGE OF YOUR LIFE .*

Friday, June 1st .
Pastor Chris

_*Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof (Proverbs 18:21).*_

Did you know that as a child of God what becomes of your life is entirely up to you? If you’re waiting on God to do anything about your life, your wait will be in vain, because He already did all that’s required for you to have an excellent, glorious, and triumphant life. The works were finished from the foundation of the world (Hebrews 4:3 NKJV). All you have to do now is enjoy your life: enjoy everything that the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ provided for you.

2 Peter 1:3 says, _*“According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness….”*_ Notice the tenses; this isn’t a promise but a forgone conclusion; it’s happened already: you’ve been given everything you require for the transcendent life. Knowing how to make all that already belongs to you in Christ—all He’s made you and has done for you a vital reality in your life—has been the missing link.

You may not know it, but every time you speak, you shape your life and future to either synchronize with God’s divine provisions and destiny for you, or to be at variance with it. You are today, what you said years ago. That means you’re fully responsible for your life and future; they’re in your hands. What becomes of you in life is the result of your tongue-work.

Stop talking about your problems; rather, declare your glorious life in Christ. Declare how you want things to be, in line with the Word. Don’t wait for anyone to do it for you; by your own words, chart your course. Take charge of your life. Acts 2:17 says, _*“And it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God, I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh: and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy….”*_

Prophesy about your life, and about your future. Prophesy to your bone, to your body, to your skin, to your blood, to your finances, job, business, academics, etc. Don’t wait for the world or circumstances to decide and dictate what happens to you; use your mouth: speak words of power.

*PRAYER*

*Father I thank you for your glory in my life! The light of your Word is shining ever so brightly in, and through me; and all things are working together for my good. I live in health, success, and prosperity, in the Name of the Lord Jesus Christ. Amen.*

*FURTHER STUDY:* *||* *Job 22:28* Thou shalt also decree a thing, and it shall be established unto thee: and the light shall shine upon thy ways. *||*

*||* *Mark 11:23* For verily I say unto you, That whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith. *||*

*||* *2 Peter 1:3-4* According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that [pertain] unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue: 4 Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust. *||*

*DAILY SCRIPTURE READING*

*1-Year Bible Reading Plan=>* John 16:17-33 & 1 Chronicles 7-8

*2-Year Bible Reading Plan=>* 1 Corinthians 15:1-10 & Proverbs 28.

#AFFIRMATIONTRAIN

1ST JUNE.

I affirm that I am an heir of God and a joint-heir with Christ; therefore, all things are mine! I am an offspring of the Word; I am born into greatness and never-ending victories and possibilities. I’m in the centre of God’s will for my life.

I am hid in Christ and Christ in God. No weapon formed against me will ever prosper because the Lord has given me the power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt me. Daily, I go out with joy and I am led forth with peace; the mountains and the hills break forth before me in singing and all the trees of the field clap their hands. Hallelujah!

For my sake, the loins of kings are let loose and my gates will never be shut. This is my year of the supernatural, there’s no stopping me!

The Spirit of God has broken in pieces the gates of brass, and cut in sunder the bars of iron: He has granted unto me the treasures of darkness and the hidden riches of the secret places. Thus, I’m moving upward and forward and prospering in everything I do. Blessed be God.

SPEAK IN OTHER TONGUES NOW

• Be bold to say the same things that God has said concerning you in His Word. That is what takes you beyond salvation, to enjoy the benefits of salvation ~ Pastor Chris Oyakhilome.

God bless you.

'El-Rufai Is Tyrannical': Suleiman Othman Hunkuyi
User Avatar Forum: Retired Forums. Please Make Your Post Within The 3 Forums In General Discussion
Posted by: Edoman - 05-31-2018, 09:07 PM - No Replies

Senator Suleiman Othman Hunkuyi representing Kaduna North Senatorial District has taken to social media to call over Kaduna state over ongoing victimization. According to him,Gov. El-rufai is set to destroy his personal house despite a valid and subsisting court order. He wrote...

'Kaduna State Government is set to demolish my personal house despite a valid and subsisting court order. The matter is still pending in the High Court of justice Kaduna as I write this but the government is bent on carrying out its atrocity.

This is just one of the many court order violations by the Kaduna State Government. We in Kaduna are very much aware of its antecedents when it comes to violation of court orders, because they feel they are above the law.

Its ironic for a government that rushes to sue people in court for mundane issues but turn around to completely ignore court orders against it. It tells so much on the kind of disrespect that they have for rule of law.

Such injustices and abuse of office will not go unchallenged, we will remain committed to the fight against such a tyrannical government legally within our constitutional rights, and we will certainly not relent in ensuring that justice prevails'

Don't Run Against Me In 2019 Election, Buhari Begs Nigerian Youths

Buhari Begs Youths Not To Run Against Him As He Signs ‘Not-Too-Young To ‘Run’ Bill

Quote:PRESIDENT Muhammadu Buhari has begged Nigerian youths to shelve their political ambition until after the 2019 general election.

This is coming months after the president described the youths as illiterates, lazy and people who want freebies.

Mr Buhari made the plea on Thursday while signing into law the Not Too Young To Run’ bill passed by the National Assembly last year.

He signed the bill in the presence of selected invited youth from across the county at the Council Chamber of State House Presidential Villa, Abuja.

The president had on Tuesday assured Nigerians that the ‘Not too Young to Run Bill’ will be signed into law in a few days’ time.

“You can aspire for President but Please postpone your campaign till after 2019 election,” Mr Buhari, who is running for a second term pleaded with the youths.

The new law is aimed at relaxing some of the stringent and discriminatory provisions of the constitution.

The bill was passed by the National Assembly last year to alter Sections 65, 106, 131, 177 of the constitution. It was to reduce the age qualification for president from 40 to 30; governor from 35 to 30; senator from 35 to 30; House of Representatives membership from 30 to 25 and State House of Assembly membership from 30 to 25.

Lawmakers also approved independent candidature in the new law. It was part of a wider constitutional amendment process which the National Assembly carried out last year.

Since its passage in July 2017 by the National Assembly, about 25 states, representing more than two-thirds of the country’s 36 states, had adopted the bill as at March ending.

It was the outcome of relentless efforts by a coalition of more than 40 youth-based initiatives across the country.

Brazilian Lady Born Without Vagina Has One Made Out Of Fish Skin
User Avatar Forum: Other Stories
Posted by: Edoman - 05-31-2018, 05:08 PM - No Replies

@APROKOGIRL

A 23-year-old university student who was born without a vagina, has become the first in the world to undergo pioneering surgery that constructed a new vaginal canal out of fish skin.

According to Mirror, the operation took place at the Federal University of Ceara (UFC), Brazil. The girl was diagnosed in her teens with having no cervix, uterus, ovaries or womb.

Jucilene Marinho has now spoken for the first time and talked about how the revolutionary operation using skin of the tilapia fish has changed her life and allowed her to have sex for the first time.

The unorthodox treatment, which was led by gynaecologist, Dr Leonardo Bezerra, is faster, cheaper and less aggressive than the conventional method used for sufferers of Mayer-Rokitansky-Küster-Hauser (MRKH).

The revolutionary treatment involves opening a space between the vagina and anus and inserting a tubular mould lined with the skin of the freshwater fish.

Once in contact with the patient’s body, tilapia skin acts like stem cells and is absorbed and transformed into cellular tissue forming the walls of the canal, similar to that of an actual vagina. .
.
Before being used, the fish skin undergoes a special cleaning and sterilisation process in the lab followed by irradiation to kill viruses. .
.
The process removes all the scales and fish smell and results in a light-coloured gel dressing that can be stored for up to two years in refrigerated sterile packaging.

Dino Melaye Asks Buhari To Apologise To National Assembly
User Avatar Forum: Politics

Quote:ABUJA- CHAIRMAN, Senate Committee on the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Senator Dino Melaye, APC, Kogi West has asked President Muhammad Buhari to as a matter of urgency, apologize to the National Assembly for allegedly making what he termed, disparaging statements against the integrity of the Parliament when he said some lawmakers have been there for 10 years without doing anything.

Senator Melaye who came under Order 14, personal explanation drew the attention of the Senate to what he described as “in parliamentary and uncomplimentary language” of President Buhari; asking him to tenders an unreserved apology.

Presenting video evidence before the Senate, Melaye said that Buhari made the uncharitable statement when he met with members of his campaign organization led by the Comptroller General of Nigerian Customs, Col. Hameed Ali in his Aso Rock Villa last week; pointing out that most appointees of government draw strength from the President’s disposition to behave rudely to the institution of the Senate. Melaye also questioned why the Comptroller General of Customs, Handed Ali should be at the head of the campaign organisation of President Muhammadu Buhari, adding that the Nigeria Customs is a paramilitary organisation and that the position of Comptroller General is a rank which should be separated from politics.

The lawmaker who noted that this explained why he moved earlier that the Comptroller of Customs should wear his uniform, said, “If he had worn his uniform, he wouldn’t have led the Buhari Campaign Organisation.”

Meanwhile, the National Security Adviser. NSA, Major- General Mohammed Babagana Monguno, retd is at the moment at a closed session with the Senators, briefing them on the proliferation of dangerous firearms, spate of killings by terrorists and kidnapping by Hoodlums across the country.

According to reports, A teacher and mother of two stabbed her husband to death during a fight at their residence in Ikorodu, Lagos.

According to the wife, she stabbed him in self defense, after being pinned down by the deceased, who was notorious for always beating her.

When interviewed, the sobbing suspect said: “I didn’t kill him intentionally. He was always battering me. Today, he pinned me down and started beating me again.

I picked the knife to scare him, but I mistakenly stabbed him. I couldn’t have killed my husband intentionally. In the past, I used to run out of the house when being beaten, but today, he locked everywhere to prevent my escape.

My family have told me to divorce him but I didn’t want to, because he is the husband of my youth and we already have two children together. You can ask around, everyone knows he beats me always.”

The wife has since been arrested by policemen attached to the Igbogbo Police Station.

Nude Photos Of UNILAG English Professor Who Molests Female Students Leaked!
User Avatar Forum: Universities
Posted by: Edoman - 05-31-2018, 12:41 PM - No Replies

Barely one month after Obafemi Awolowo Univeristy, Osun State was embroiled in a 'sex for marks' scandal, a female student of the University of Lagos has reached out to LIB to share her sad and depressing story of molestation in the hands of one of her lecturers who according to her is a proffesor in the English Department.

The student (name withheld) managed to get nude photos of her molester in one of their 'encounters' and according to her;

I have been suffering this for months now. Whenever students go to his office for anything he is always trying to touch you. I took pictures of him on one of the days I entered his office. He has made molestation a part of him. I’m even scared for my life in Unilag. That’s why I’m reaching out to you so he can be stopped.

She went on to add that;

He is a professor in the English department, Faculty of Arts. I am not his first victim. He does this all the time to students. I have completely given up when it comes to academics he has failed me on tests before. When I talked to him concerning it he told me I should know what to do I am an adult. I feel so dirty for even allowing such an old man touch me. But he doesn’t even care.

As long as you satisfy his wants. I’m tired of everything. He should be stopped before he ruins the lives of other innocent girls in that English department. When he touches me I am always in tears but it doesn’t stop him. Please this is why i am reaching out all I want is for him to be stopped. He is destroying the mental state of girls in Unilag.

I just want him stopped. I reached out because I don’t want him to continue molesting girls. The English department is like a cult. The lecturers have information amongst themselves. They talk about the girls they have slept with and the ones they plan to sleep with. It has been going on for years.

Below are some photos of the professor allegedly molesting her and several other innocent girls in the English department of University of Lagos. We have nude photos of him that we will not share at this point.

We hope with this LIB report, the school authorities will look into this as a matter of urgency!

A 41-year-old housewife, Mrs. Ifeoma Ofuegbu, who allegedly sold her husband’s house without his consent was on Wednesday arraigned in an FCT High Court, Jabi.

She, however, denied committing the offence; while the judge, Justice Vera Venda, ordered that she be remanded in Suleja Prisons, and adjourned the case until June 13 for the hearing of her bail application.

Ofuegbu was faces charges bordering on cheating, criminal misappropriation and obtaining money by false pretext.

The prosecutor, Mrs. Hadiza Esai, had told the court that the defendant allegedly sold the house situated at Dawaki area of the FCT for N25m.

She said that the alleged offences contravened sections 320 and 308 of the Penal Code.

Her lawyer, Mr. Chijioke Osuagwu, applied for her bail and argued that his client remains innocent until proved otherwise.

“The motion is brought pursuant to sections 6(6), 35 and 36(5) and (6b) of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

“Our motion for bail is also backed by sections 158, 162, 165 of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act (ACJA) 2015.

“Our prayers are contained in the motion paper; this motion is supported by four-paragraph affidavit and we rely on all the paragraphs, especially paragraph three,” he said.

Osuagwu urged the court to exercise its discretion in granting the bail in favour of the applicant and drew the court’s attention to the deteriorating health of his client.

The prosecutor did not oppose the bail application, but said that a plea bargain discussion was already ongoing with the defendant.

South-South Governors Meet At Rivers Govt. House, Demand Derivation From FG(Pics
User Avatar Forum: Politics

@myNAIJAinfo.com

South-South Governors have formally demanded 13percent derivation from the Federal Government on the $1billion to be withdrawn from the Excess Crude Account to fund National Security Matters.

In attendance at the meeting were: Bayelsa State Governor, Rt Hon Seriake Dickson, Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, Delta State Governor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, Akwa Ibom State Governor, Udom Emmanuel and Deputy Governor of Edo State, Rt Hon Philip Shaibu.

Briefing journalists after the meeting of the South-South Governors Forum at the Government House Port Harcourt on Wednesday, Chairman of the Forum and Bayelsa State Governor, Rt Hon Seriake Dickson stated that the governors resolved to officially communicate to the appropriate authorities for the constitutional provision of 13 percent derivation to be applied and respected.

Seriake said: "We took the collective view that with respect to the Federal Government's effort to withdraw $1billion for national security, our position in this zone is in line with the constitutional provision on derivation.

"While we have no objection to the Federal Government spending money on security, including security of this zone, we believe the constitutional provision on 13percent derivation be applied and fully respected.

"We will communicate that to the appropriate authorities so that whatever amount that is withdrawn from the Excess Crude Account, being proceed of crude oil sale is subject to the 13 percent principle enshrined in the constitution. "

The South-South Governors Forum also called for the withdrawal of the Executive Bill forwarded to the National Assembly, wherein the Federal Government seeks to control the management of waterways.

The South-South Governors declared: "We also agreed that the bill currently making rounds in the National Assembly which we understand is an Executive Bill on management of water resources. We are of the view that the provisions of the bill are offensive and obnoxious.

"We disagree with the centralized control of water resources as we are already dealing with the problem associated with over centralization of our country and we have agreed that the bill should be immediately withdrawn by the Federal Government and further consultations be made on that."

The South-South Governors further declared their support for restructuring of the country and the devolution of powers to the states.

The governors stated: "Everyone is aware of the ongoing clamour for devolution and a return to essential founding principle of this great country. And we in our meeting resolved as we have been speaking over sometime that we associate fully with the clamour for restructuring, for the clamour for true federalism and for the clamour for devolution of powers that are so concentrated at the centre to the federating units and we have agreed to support ongoing moves in that direction by working with like-minded Nigerians who mean well for the country so that we can all have a stable and prosperous and peaceful nation."

Herdsmen Killings: Benue Fires Back At Sultan Over Jihad Statement
User Avatar Forum: Politics
Posted by: Edoman - 05-31-2018, 10:27 AM - No Replies

Benue State Government has reacted to the recent comment by the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar lll-led Jama’atu Nasril that the herdsmen killings across Benue, Taraba and other parts of the North, were not continuation of the late Usman Danfodio’s jihad.

The Sultan, who doubles as President General of the JNI with its headquarters in Kaduna, warned against taking Nigerian Muslims for granted by denigrating the Islamic community.

Reacting, however, the state government in a statement by Tever Akase, Chief Press Secretary to Governor Samuel Ortom, insisted that JNI should rather blame Miyetti Allah over the alleged Jihad statement.

His statement below:

Another instance where the same group declared jihad on the country can be obtained in the following link: .

Governor Ortom who referred to such statements including the ones quoted above from the Fulani Nationality Movement, reiterated his call for the arrest of the leadership of the groups to prevent further killings in the state.

Governor Ortom used the programme to draw the attention of security agencies to the inflammatory statements made by the said groups vowing to wage a jihad and mobilize their members to invade Benue and resist implementation of the Open Grazing Prohibition and Ranches Establishment Law passed by the state.

The Benue State Governor has enormous respect for the leadership of Jama’atul Nasir Islam and all other Nigerian Muslims and would not have launched an attack on the religion. We reject and condemn this negative branding of the Governor by JNI.

Since assumption of office, Governor Ortom has embraced and encouraged all religious groups in the state especially the Muslim community as evident in the cordial relationship between the present administration and leadership of the Islamic faith. It is therefore strange that the headquarters of Jama’atul Nasir Islam has chosen to assault the Governor’s reputation on a matter which has verifiable evidence unconnected with him.

Governor Ortom has demonstrated statesmanship and focus in handling the secuirty challenge in the state and he appreciates the contributions of all stakeholders particularly religious leaders both Christian and Muslim towards the return of peace to the affected parts of Benue State.

Morning Devotional For Thursday 31st May

RHAPSODY OF REALITIES DAILY DEVOTIONAL

SPEAK “SPIRIT WORDS”.

Thursday, May 31st

Pastor Chris

It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life (John 6:63).

Not many people realize that life is indeed, spiritual. The physical world in which we live isn’t all there is; it’s in fact controlled from the spirit world.

All around us in this physical world are angels, but you can’t see them with your physical eyes; you have to pass over into the realm of the spirit to see them. Now, the point of all that is this: everything God says to us is real in the realm of the spirit, but to make them real in your life, you have to speak them forth. The Word of God is activated by your words.

Your words are “spirit words”; when you speak, you connect to the spirit realm. Your words are the connection between the earth realm and the spirit realm. Every time you speak, whatever you say is real in the realm of the spirit. If they’re positive, faith-filled words, they’ll produce faith-results. If they’re words of fear, discouragement, and defeat, they’ll produce such negative results as well.

Your words are either working for you or against you; the reason you must watch what you say. It brings to mind the words of Jesus in Matthew 12:37: “For by thy words thou shalt be justified, and by thy words thou shalt be condemned.” Recall what He said in our opening verse.

We’re made, not just to look like Him, but also to function like Him. We release spirit and life through our words. The energy released by your words will either give life or produce death. It’s for the same reason the Bible says in Proverbs 18:21, “Death and life are in the power of the tongue….”

Release positive energy through your words. Speak life to your world, to your family, your job, your ministry, your finances, etc. Speak life to everything that concerns you. Affirm God’s Word in every situation. What you say is what you get (Mark 11:23); never forget it. Therefore, speak life only, and always; speak “spirit words”; faith-filled words.

PRAYER

I declare peace with prosperity for the nations of the world, and affirm that the Gospel of Christ has free course and is glorified; the righteousness of God is exalted in the nations, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.

FURTHER STUDY:
*||* Romans 10:6-8 But the righteousness which is of faith speaketh on this wise, Say not in thine heart, Who shall ascend into heaven? (that is, to bring Christ down [from above]Smile 7 Or, Who shall descend into the deep? (that is, to bring up Christ again from the dead.) 8 But what saith it? The word is nigh thee, [even] in thy mouth, and in thy heart: that is, the word of faith, which we preach; *||*

*||* 1 Corinthians 2:12-13 Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God. 13 Which things also we speak, not in the words which man's wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth; comparing spiritual things with spiritual. *||*

"Millions Of Muslims In Nigeria Are Coming To Jesus" - Man Says (Photos)
User Avatar Forum: Other Stories
Posted by: Edoman - 05-30-2018, 10:23 PM - No Replies

Below is a narration from a Facebook user who says he successfully converted a man from Islam to Christianity. According to him, the new convert spoke of how many Muslims in Northern Nigeria are willing to come to Jesus but are scared due to some reasons.

Read his post below.

Quote:Millions of Muslims. Coming to Jesus

Today I hosted Usman a Hausa Muslim convert to Christianity in my house. If you remember I told you about him some few weeks ago

Usman is doing a lot for Jesus he is making real exploits in Northern Nigeria. On Facebook alone he just converted 5 Muslims in Kano 2 others and a Sheik said they are considering but they will make a decision after Ramadan. The 5 that converted just informed him their people have discovered they don’t fast and they are suspecting them, therefore we are taking them to a safe Haven next week in the same Kano.

Usman is a blessing to Christianity just explaining to them that Saratul Maryam mentioned two types of Jesus the first Jesus his name was mentioned 25x as the saviour of the world as the one that will Judge everybody etc. And the second type of Jesus who is the 26th name mentioned is not the same as the first Jesus and the Quran says he is fake , he has a form of Jesus and.he will imitate Jesus as the saviour of the world but it’s deception, according to Usman that’s Muhammed. .Usman also said he told them Christianity is not a religion and that Islam.is divided into 7 he mentioned them in Hausa Izala, Darika, Bidia, Tijaniyya , Kalakato, Shia and lastly Christianity. You are surprise he mentioned Christianity as a part of Islam. Usman said true Islam is Christianity all the other 6 branches of Islam is Paganism practiced by the Arabs. …

According to Usman many Muslims don’t know this truth because they don’t read the Quran themselves. They always take what Mallam said. Usman said he told his converts why not what Muhammed or Allah said why is it always what Mallam said. According to him the Mallams always lie to their followers. ………

Things are really happening in the Islamic world . Usman told me alot. Pray for Muslims for God’s Grace to find millions of them.

According to Usman million of.Muslims want to come to Jesus but they are scared and we Christians are also scared to preach to them. Usman said we should not fear Muslims they want to know the truth . He said the aggressive ones are the illiterates who knows nothing about Islam. Only “Mallam yace”and this same Mallams send them on errand to kill.

Usman said so many Sheiks.and Mallams have called him and plead with him to stop exposing Islam..He said many.of.them know the truth but they prefer to.tell their followers lies

Anambra Workers Risk Sack Over IPOB Sit-at-home Order
User Avatar Forum: Politics

…Police debunks Onitsha 2,000 march
…MASSOB spits fire on slain members

Quote:By Francis Ekpone, Praise Necherem, Phil Okose & Okechukwu Onuegbu

The Governor of Anambra State, Chief Willie Obiano, has warned workers against complying with the sit-at-home order by the pro-Biafra group, Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) scheduled for today (Wednesday)

The governor reminded the workers their responsibility and to Anambra people, warning them to be at their duty posts or be sanctioned.

It would be recalled that IPOB had designated today a work-free day for all people and friends of the Igbo extraction. The sit-at-home order was in commemoration of the 51st anniversary of the declaration of the sovereign state of Biafra by the Biafran warlord, late Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu.

They called for the closure markets, banks and state secretariats in the Igbo speaking states while workers should remain in their houses for the celebration.

Anambra workers were already jubilating over the sit-at-home order when a memo went viral on the social media, asking the workers to report to the office today or be punished.

The memo which was allegedly signed by the Anambra state Head of Service, Barr. Harry Udu reads: “HE, Governor of ANS has directed that work resumes on Wednesday, May 30 after the public Holiday on 29 May. All public servants must therefore report to their duty on Wed and rest of the week.

“PSs and Heads of MDAs should monitor and report compliance unfailingly. Please circulate to all your staff”

The Chief Press Secretary to Governor Willie Obiano, Mr. James Eze, when contacted, denied knowledge of such memo from the Head of Service, wondering why workers should not report to their duty posts on May 30.

“There is no need informing workers to come to work tomorrow (May 30) since May 29 was the official public holiday granted to them. I do not see any reason why people will not come to work because they know that today (May 29) is the only public holiday. I decline to believe that there is need to threaten or inform civil servants to come to work tomorrow. But I will call back once I get across to the head of service,” he said.

In another development, the Anambra State Police Command has frowned at a report by a national daily (not Orient Daily) that no fewer than 2,000 members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) took to the streets and roads of Onitsha to sensitise the public on the sit- at- home order slated for today.

A statement issued yesterday by the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Haruna Mohammed, titled “Re: IPOB storms Onitsha, mobilises for sit-at-home”, noted that the pro-Biafra group was still a proscribed organisation, insisting that all its activities remained illegal.

“The publication is not only fictitious but also mischievously orchestrated by those elements who are not happy with the prevailing peace in the state which the Police and other law enforcement agencies are working tirelessly to maintain.

“The Commissioner of Police Anambra State Command, CP Garba Baba Umar, once again enjoined all the good people of the state to disregard alleged calls by any group urging them to sit at home on the 30/5/2018 and go about their lawful businesses.

“The CP further assured the public that adequate security arrangements have been put in place by combined security forces in the state to proactively nip in the bud any threat emanating from such groups,” it said.

The statement maintained that the command would not hesitate to deal decisively with, and in accordance with the law, any individual or groups under any guise that will disrupt public peace in the state.

It would be recalled that the Chief Ralph Uwazurike-led Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB), otherwise called Biafra Independent Movement (BIM) earlier raised alarm that 120 of its members sustained various degrees of injuries during the procession marking the 18th anniversary of the declaration of new Biafra at Aba, Abia state by the MASSOB-BIM leader, Chief Ralph Uwazuruike. The group also said that the death rose from three to six.

The Anambra Central Zonal Leader, Chief James Ezeani, disclosed this, reminding the soldiers in Onitsha that the seven-day ultimatum to hand over the corpses of its three members allegedly killed during the celebration still stands.

Ezeani stated that the 52 members of MASSOB-BIM arrested and released during the celebration does not mean that the number of detained members had been released.

“Scores are still being detained at the Onitsha 302 Military Cantonment and they should release them forthwith,” he said.

Also speaking, the MASSOB-BIM zonal leader of Anambra North, Damian Nzekwe, disclosed that the three members who died later, after the earlier recorded three deaths, died in the hospitals where they were taken to fearing that more may die.

“Presently we have recorded over 120 injured members and those of them who sustained severe injuries had since been placed on danger list indifferent hospitals”, he added.

Earlier in his speech, the Anambra North zonal leader, Tony Nwodo, said, “some of those injured by the ‘joint show of force taskforce’, are still in different hospitals recuperating while others are still in pains.

He reiterated that no amount of intimidation and blackmail by the Federal Government would deter a non-violent body fighting to actualise a Biafran state.

He paid tribute to the founder and leader of MASSOB-BIM, Chief Ralph Uazuruike for his zeal in fighting for the betterment of Igbos both in Nigeria and in the Diaspora.

Never again should Nigerians allow military adventurers rule – Aremu
User Avatar Forum: Politics

…Kicks as Buhari ignores minimum wage on Democracy speech
General Secretary, National Union of Textile, Garment and Tailoring Workers of
Nigeria, NUTGTWN, Comrade Issa Aremu, has urged Nigerians and indeed
Africans never to allow any military adventurer(s) rule them without their
mandate again.
In a statement made available to Nigerian Pilot to mark this year’s Democracy
Day, the labour leader disclosed that within 40 years of its existence, three NLC
National Executives were dissolved by successive military regimes of Murtala-
Obasanjo, (1978) Ibrahim Babangida (1998) and Sanni Abacha (1994) for
exercising basic trade union rights of defending the rights of working men and
women as contained in core ILO Conventions dealing with Freedom of Association
and Right to Organise Convention, 1948 (No. 87) and Right to Organise and
Collective Bargaining Convention (98).
“Never again should Nigerians and indeed all Africans allow any unelected or
unelectable group of military adventurers rule them without their mandate.” He
said
He said in 2004, despite his disposition to attack trade union rights, elected
President Obasanjo in a democracy could not dissolve the NLC as he did as the
head of a military junta due to constitutionality imposed by democracy.

Speaking further, Aremu hailed Nigerians for nurturing uninterrupted democratic
process for 19 years adding that regardless of the numerous current challenges of
governance, the task is to deepen democracy not lessen it.
Comrade Aremu said having being victims of past military repression, “democracy
is not just a means for the Labour movement, democracy is an end itself that
must be defended at all times.”
According to him "Democracy Day celebrates liberty as much as it damns and
condemns dictatorships"
The labour leader called for eternal vigilance in defence of democracy in Africa,
noting that some politicians still harbour “the culture of militarism foreclosing
debates, discussions, bargaining and compromise and even promoting force, and
intimidation of workforce and trade unions reminiscent of the military era.”
Comrade Aremu hailed President Buhari’s administration for the bailouts funds
made available to States “to ease their fiscal challenges and other obligations
including payment of salaries”.
He however frowned at what he observed as the silence of President’s 2018
Democracy speech on the new minimum wage adding that negotiation should be
concluded in earnest so as to motivate the workforce for economic recovery
through enhanced productivity.
On security, he urged President Buhari and governors in the crisis-ridden states to
heed the advice of former INEC chairman, Professor Mahmoud Jega, who at 2018
Democracy Day Lecture said both the Federal and states authorities should
urgently develop “capacity, institutions, structures and process of peace building”
as a necessary condition for democratic consolidation.
He said it was unacceptable for Nigeria that had been adjudged a peace building
nation in war torn Liberia, Sierra Leone and Sudan to be afflicted with preventable
crisis adding that “it was time Nigeria’s peace /charity ship berthed at home”
While acknowledging the efforts of the Federal authorities with respect to Public
safety and security in degrading the Boko Haram insurgency, comrade Aremu said
efforts should be at prevention of violence through inclusive development and
governance saying persistence violence had compounded “the crisis of
productivity, unemployment and value addiction” in the affected North East
region.

US Faults FG On Soldiers Indicted In Army, Shi'ites’ Clash

US faults FG on soldiers indicted in Army, Shi’ites’ clash

The United States on Tuesday noted that there was no record that the Nigerian or military authorities had demanded accountability from the soldiers implicated in the December 2015 clash between the Army and members of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria led by Ibrahim El-Zakzaky.

The US stated this in the International Religious Freedom Report for 2017 released by the Department of State’s Bureau of Democracy, Human Rights and Labour.

The report also noted that the Nigerian government continued to hold El-Zakzaky and restrict the free movement and association of his followers.

It read, “Human rights groups continued to report the Federal Government often failed to prevent, quell, or respond to violence affecting religious groups, particularly in the North Eastern and central regions of the country.

“In November, Kano State police fired tear gas and bullets, killing three members of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria during its annual Ashura procession.

“The government continued to detain the leader of the IMN, the country’s largest Shia group, and restrict the activities, free movement, and free association of its members.

“There were no reports of accountability for soldiers implicated in the December 2015 clash between the army and IMN members that, according to a Kaduna State Government report and reports from non-government observers, left at least 348 IMN members and one soldier dead, with IMN members buried in a mass grave.”

It, however, alleged that dozens of IMN members were still being held since December 2015, charged with the death of the soldier.

It recalled that in August, the then Acting President Yemi Osinbajo announced the creation of a Presidential Investigative Panel that was committed to transparently and credibly investigating human rights abuses committed by the military.

It said the IMN, however, publicly stated that it would boycott the panel because it doubted its sincerity.

External human rights observers, it noted, also expressed concern over the lack of transparency and rigour of the panel.

The report noted that the Nigerian government had yet to obey court orders on the detained El-Zakzaky and his wife.

“The government stated publicly that Sheikh El-Zakzaky, leader of the IMN and a prominent Shia cleric, would remain in what it said was ‘protective custody’ pending the appeal of the December 2016 decision of the Federal High Court in Abuja that the government must release him.

“At year’s end, El-Zakzaky remained in prison.

“The court also ruled that the government must provide him with a house and pay him and his wife restitution of N25m ($69,600) by January 15; at year’s end, the court’s order had yet to be followed,” it said.

The report also indicated that terrorist organisation, Boko Haram, and its splinter organisation, the Islamic State-West Africa, continued “carrying out numerous attacks, committing mass killings, and targeting civilians. “

It quoted Nigeria Watch as estimating that activities by Boko Haram and ISIS-WA resulted in the deaths of 1,794 persons in 2017, including members of the two groups.

The Ministry of Defence’s spokesman, Charles Nwodo, said he could not comment on the report till Wednesday (today), when he would be back to the office.

“Defer the report till tomorrow. I will be back to the office by then.”

Nwodo declined further comment.

Meanwhile, the Director of Information, Defence Headquarters, Brig. Gen. John Agim, could not be reached for comment as his line rang out.

Also, a text message sent to his phone had yet to be replied as of the time of filing this report.

The Director, Army Public Relations, Brig. Gen. Texas Chukwu, also could not be reached for comment as of press time.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs could not be reached for comment as the minister, Geoffrey Onyeama, did not respond to calls. He had yet to reply to a text message as of the time of filing this report.

The MFA spokesman, Tope Elias-Fatile, could also not be reached as calls to his phone indicated that he was unavailable.

A Lion Air's Boeing 737 with 189 passengers onboard was preparing to take off to Jakarta ,Indonesia on Monday night when passengers overheard a 26-year-old man telling a flight attendant there was a bomb on the flight.

One of the passengers then broke the emergency window exits, allowing panicked passengers to climb out of the windows onto the plane wing and then to the ground.

About 10 passengers injured with broken bones and head wounds were admitted to hospital for treatment.

No explosives was found when police and security officials at the airport did an inspection of the plane.

Both the passenger who broke the emergency exit windows and the 26 year old who joked about the presence of a bomb on board were arrested .They face up to eight years in prison.

After a three hour delay, the aircraft departed for the one hour flight to Jakarta, the capital of Indonesia.

What a dry and expensive joke .

What do you think?

Samson Olugbenga Oyekunle Evertipsysmiley Arested, Jailed Over N290m Fraud In US
User Avatar Forum: Other Stories
Posted by: Edoman - 05-30-2018, 10:03 AM - No Replies

Samson Olugbenga Oyekunle aka Evertipsysmiley, a 34-year-old Nigerian man who illegally resided in Houston has been ordered to prison for his involvement in numerous Business Email Compromise (BEC) schemes. Samson Olugbenga Oyekunle pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit wire fraud Oct, 6, 2017.

Today, U.S. District Judge Melinda Harmon ordered Oyekunle to serve 63 months in federal prison. He initially came to the United States on a student visa, but not a U.S. citizen, he is expected to face deportation proceedings following his sentence. At the hearing today, a victim spoke before the court as to how this case has devastatingly affected him and his law practice. Judge Harmon further ordered Oyekunle to pay restitution to the victims he defrauded.

BEC fraud is a sophisticated fraud targeting businesses that regularly perform wire transfer payments. The fraud is carried out by compromising legitimate business e-mail accounts through social engineering or computer intrusion techniques to conduct unauthorized transfers of funds. The front end fraud of these BEC schemes originates from international locations. The fraudsters will use the method most commonly associated with their victim's normal business practices and make victims believe the emails are coming from a legitimate source. Others, such as Oyekunle, working within the conspiracy open bank accounts with counterfeit passports that are being funded with fraudulent BEC wire transfers. These domestic bank accounts are a crucial component of the fraud scheme being a success.

From on or about Jan. 1, 2016, through February 2, 2017, Samson Oyekunle was involved in numerous BEC schemes. Co-conspirators, working outside the United States, caused funds obtained through a variety of BEC schemes to be wire transferred into the various bank accounts Oyekunle fraudulently opened.

Oyekunle would open bank these bank accounts in or around the Houston area with counterfeit passports in order to facilitate fraud payments into these accounts. Oyekunle opened numerous bank accounts at several financial institutions including Chase Bank, Bank of America, Capital One Bank, First National Bank of Texas, and Wells Fargo Bank.

A total of 30 fraudulent wire transfers totaling $823,765 were taken from victims across the United States under false pretenses and were deposited into these accounts.

Oyekunle has been and will remain in custody pending transfer to a U.S. Bureau of Prisons facility to be determined in the near future.

How Obasanjo, Nuhu Ribadu, Ezekwesili Destroyed Nigeria’s Democracy – Tony Momoh
User Avatar Forum: Retired Forums. Please Make Your Post Within The 3 Forums In General Discussion
Posted by: Edoman - 05-30-2018, 09:29 AM - No Replies

Quote:Prince Tony Momoh, a former Minister of Information on Tuesday said former President Olusegun Obasanjo and Nuhu Ribadu, founding Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) destroyed Nigeria’s democracy by barring certain politicians from participating in the 2007 general elections without recourse to the rule of law.

In an interview with DAILY INDEPENDENT, Momoh also accused Ribadu of breaching the EFCC Act which stipulates that he should charge alleged corrupt persons to court after completing his investigations.

However, Momoh said Ribadu upon completion of his investigations handed over the case files to Obasanjo, who in turn set up committees to determine who should be pardoned or who is to be investigated.

He said based on the recommendations of the committee, many eligible politicians were barred from contesting election in the country owing to Obasanjo’s personal judgement without any court pronouncing them guilty.

He further stated Oby Ezekwesili, co- founder of the BBOG campaign widely regarded as Madam Due Process was also a member of the committees set up by Obasanjo that barred politicians from contesting.

“In my view, he destroyed Nuhu Ribadu because I wrote that Ribadu had been led astray. Everybody like Ribadu because of what he did in EFCC. In his investigations, the EFCC Act said he should go to court and prosecute but Ribadu collected all investigations and handed them over to Obasanjo on his instructions”.

“Obasanjo on his part set up committees to address who was guilty or not. From there, it moved to another committee that decided who could be pardoned or not”.

“Based on that, they disqualified people from contesting election which was outside due process. Unfortunately, my sister Oby Ezekwesili was a member of one of the committees that disqualified politicians from contesting election. That was in the area of destroying our democracy. They just messed up our Due Process” he said.

Court Orders Buhari To Prosecute Lawmakers Over Alleged Stealing Of N481bn......
User Avatar Forum: Retired Forums. Please Make Your Post Within The 3 Forums In General Discussion
Posted by: Edoman - 05-30-2018, 09:28 AM - No Replies

Court orders Buhari to prosecute lawmakers over alleged stealing of N481bn from 2016 budget

A Federal High Court sitting in Lagos in a landmark judgement has ordered President Muhammadu Buhari to “urgently instruct security and anti-corruption agencies to forward to him reports of their investigations into allegations of padding and stealing of some N481 billion from the 2016 budget by some principal officers of the National Assembly.”

The Court also ordered President Buhari to “direct the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice Abubakar Malami, SAN, and/or appropriate anti-corruption agencies to without delay commence prosecution of indicted lawmakers.”

The judgment was delivered yesterday by Justice Mohammed Idris following a mandamus suit no: FHC/L/CS/1821/2017 brought by Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP).

The Court also ordered President Buhari to “direct the publication of the report of investigations by security and anti-corruption bodies into the alleged padding of the 2016 budget.”

In the suit brought against the President of Nigeria and the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Justice Idris further held that President Buhari in the exercise of his executive powers has a duty to ensure compliance with the provisions of article 22 of the African Charter on Human and Peoples’ Rights, holding further that Buhari is “expected to use his executive powers for the public good of Nigeria.”

Article 22 of the African Charter provides that, “All peoples shall have the right to their economic, social and cultural development with due regard to their freedom,” and that “States shall have the duty, individually or collectively, to ensure the exercise of the right to development.”

The Court also granted an order directing Buhari to “Urgently halt alleged attempt by some principal officers of the National Assembly to steal N40 billion of the N100 billion allocated by his government as ‘zonal intervention’ in the 2017 budget.”

Buhari is also ordered “to closely monitor and scrutinize the spending of N131 billion (accrued from increased oil bench mark) allocated for additional non-constituency projects expenditure, to remove the possibility of corruption.”

The Court held that “SERAP, being a human rights non-governmental organization has sufficient interest in the way and manner public funds are being utilized in this country.”

SERAP deputy director Timothy Adewale said: “This judgment confirms the pervasive corruption in the budget process and the prevailing culture of impunity of our lawmakers as well as the failure of the authorities to uphold transparency and accountability in the entire budget process and implementation.

"The judgement is an important step towards reversing a culture of corruption in the budget process that has meant that many of our lawmakers see the budget more as a ‘meal ticket’ to look after themselves than a social contract to meet people’s needs and advance equity and development across the country.”

“This is a crucial precedent that vindicates the right to a transparent and accountable budget process and affirms the budget as government’s most important economic policy document, which is central to the realization of all human rights including the rights to health, water, and education. We are now in the process of obtaining a certified copy of the judgment. SERAP will do everything within its power to secure the full and effective enforcement of this important judgment.”

It would be recalled that SERAP last year filed the suit after the organization said it received “credible information from multiple sources that the Department of State Services (DSS) and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have completed investigations into the allegations of padding of the 2016 budget, completed their reports, and indicted some principal officers of the House of Representatives and the Senate, and that the accounts of some of the principal officers containing allegedly illicit funds have been frozen, and that the case files for the prosecution of those indicted were ready.”

The suit filed on SERAP’s behalf by its counsel Mrs Joke Fekumo read in part: “Unless the principal officers indicted in the alleged padding of the 2016 budget are prosecuted and any stolen public funds recovered, the Federal Government will not be able to stop padding of future budgets. Alleged corruption in the budget process will not just melt away or simply evaporate without addressing the fundamental issue of impunity of perpetrators.”

“Addressing alleged corruption in the budget process by pursuing prosecution of indicted principal officers of the National Assembly will provide an important opportunity for the Federal Government to reignite the fight against corruption and fulfil a cardinal campaign promise, to show that the Federal Government works on behalf of the many, and not the few, as well as jumpstart economic activities and break the back of the recession.”

“Publishing the report of the investigation of the alleged padding of the 2016 budget, and prosecuting suspected perpetrators are absolutely important to avoid another padding, which the Federal Government can ill afford.”

“The allegations of crime of budget padding against the indicted principal officers of the National Assembly is a gross deprivation of the good people of Nigeria’s legitimate wealth and natural resources. We respectfully urge your Lordship to hold that the citizens of Nigeria have been deprived of their natural wealth and the indicted principal members be prosecuted by the Minister of Justice and Attorney-General of the Federation.”
