What would have otherwise been a devastating suicide bomb attack on a mosque in Gashua village in Gujba Local Government Area of Yobe state has been successfully foiled today by vigilant members of the community.

A female Boko Haram suicide bomber had infiltrated the mosque, while members were about to commence a prayer session but was detected when struggling to detonate a suicide vest strapped to her body. She was quickly restrained by the locals, arrested and handed over to troops at Azare.

Members of the Explosive Ordnance Disposal Component of Operation Lafiya Dole at the location have safely defused the suicide vest, while the suicide bomber is currently receiving medical attention due to injuries sustained during her arrest.

  Morning Devotional For Sunday 20th May
User Avatar Forum: Daily Devotions

Rhapsody of Realities.

Champions for life.

Sunday, May 20th

Pastor Chris

```Not that we are fit (qualified and sufficient in ability) of ourselves to form personal judgments or to claim or count anything as coming from us, but our power and ability and sufficiency are from God (2 Corinthians 3:5 AMPC).```
The words of the Spirit in our opening verse are so sublime; such an extraordinary present-hour reality: our competence is of God! We’ve Been Called, Anointed, And Sent By the Spirit; Therefore, He Doesn’t Expect Us To Carry Out His Work Through The Flesh, But By His Divine Power.
The Greek word translated, Sufficiency in the verse above is Hikanotes, and it means Competence. Just as Paul said of himself and other ministers who worked with him, you too can say that your competency is of God. You’re Competent To Do All Things; Everything That God Has Called You To Do. Paul and Silas and Timothy have all gone to heaven; you’re the one on the scene today, spreading His righteousness, and establishing His Kingdom on earth and in the hearts of men.
Perhaps, you’ve been assigned a particular project or task, and you’re wondering, Where Do I Even Begin? This Task Is So Huge And Daunting. Relax. You’re up to the task. You Have What It Takes To Make That Project An Excellent Success, Because You’re Sufficient In Christ’s Sufficiency. Make that your confession.
How Could You Have Such An Assurance From The Holy Spirit, And Be Wondering Whether Or Not You Can Achieve A Target; He’s Your Ability. By your own human wisdom and strength you might not be up to par. But with the Holy Ghost, you can do all things; you always win; you’re fruitful and productive in all things (Colossians 1:10); you’re competent in any field. You can say with delight and assurance, Put Me Anywhere, I’ll Shine; I’ll Always Be A Success, Because I’m Sufficient In Christ’s Sufficiency.
Zechariah 4:6 says, …Not By Might, Nor By Power, But By My Spirit, Saith The LORD Of Hosts. By the Holy Ghost, you’re a champion for life! Hallelujah!
*CONFESSION:*
_Dear Father, what a privilege to be imbued with the requisite and adequate ability to carry out to completion, and with excellence, all tasks and projects to your glory. I can do all things through your anointing that’s at work and fully operational in me. Blessed be your Name forever!_
*FURTHER STUDY:*
*|| 2 Corinthians 4:7 But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellency of the power may be of God, and not of us. ||*
*|| Philippians 4:13. I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me. ||*
*|| Ephesians 2:10 AMPC For we are God’s [own] handiwork (His. workmanship), [a]recreated in Christ Jesus, [born anew] that we may do those good works which God predestined (planned beforehand) for us [taking paths which He prepared ahead of time], that we should walk in them [living the good life which He prearranged and made ready for us to live]. ||*
AFFIRMATIONTRAIN
20TH MAY, 2018.
I affirm that my life is characterized with the demonstration of Christ’s resurrected power!
There’s life in my body! There’s life in my family! There’s life in my ministry! There’s life in my career and in every area of my life!
God’s ability is at work in me; therefore, I live triumphantly in, and by the power of the Holy Spirit. Hallelujah!
In all that I do, the Lord has caused every favor and earthly blessing to come to me in abundance, so that I may always and under all circumstances and whatever the need, be self-sufficient, possessing enough to require no aid or support, and furnished in abundance for every good work and charitable donation.
I am perfected in Christ through the enlightenment and understanding granted me by the Spirit to know and live by the greater truths of God’s Word.
I am confident that I will consistently make progress and walk in victory.
I walk in the light of my justification, rejoicing in the life of glory and righteousness in Christ!
Having been justified by faith, I have peace with God, absolved of all guilt, free to live and serve the Lord joyously, and gloriously. Hallelujah!
My mind is anointed to think God’s thoughts!
With the Word of God in my mouth, I cast down all imaginations of fear, failure, sickness, disease, and infirmity!
No evil or negative imagination has a place in my heart!
My mind is inundated with the Word, with which I prevail over all the fiery darts of the enemy.
Blessed be God!
A manhunt has been launched by the Nigerian Police, for the reporter who shared of the Inspector General of Police, IGP Ibrahim Idris struggling to read his speech at the inauguration of the Police Technical Intelligence Unit in Kano, Kano State on Monday, which has been trending with #transmission.
Liberty Television journalist, Aminu Nurudeen, who is believed to have posted the viral video of IGP Ibrahim Idris, has reportedly gone into hiding, as Punch gathered that the Kano State Police Command invited the reporter to its office immediately the video went viral.
Nurudeen’s whereabouts had been unknown since the Kano State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Musa Magaji Majiya, invited him on Thursday.
Authorities are upset with the journalist because he had allegedly disobeyed a directive by the Kano State Police Command to journalists present at the event not to report the IG’s blunder or make the video public.
In a part of the transcription of the footage, Idris said, “I mean, transmission, I mean effort, that the transmission cooperation to transmission, I mean transmission to have effect, ehm, apprehend, I mean, apprehensive towards the recommendation, recommended formation effective and effect, I mean, apprehensive at the transmission of…and transmission and transmission for the effective in the police command.”
Sources revealed that IGP Ibrahim Idris, who was embarrassed by the trending video reportedly ordered an investigation into its release.
In a chat with Punch, a source said, “He (the IGP) has however ordered an investigation into the leakage of the video but we are watching to see how he intends to deal with the individuals behind the viral video without further embarrassing himself and the force”.
Also, detectives are allegedly using the police technical platform to track the original source of the video on social media. Bloggers that posted the video might be interrogated by the police for allegedly, “peddling a doctored video meant to cast the IG in bad light and embarrass the police leadership.”
Idris, in an interactive media chat on the police Twitter handle, Nigerian Police @PoliceNG #Askthepolice, had also told Nigerians that the video was doctored.
  Prophet Beats Sick Man To Death During Deliverance In Delta
User Avatar Forum: Other Stories
Prophet Moses Urovbu of the God Revival Prayer Ministry, based in Ughelli, Delta state, has reportedly been arrested by officers attached to the Delta State Police Command, for reportedly chaining and beating a 30-year-old man, Monday Edjedjere, brought to his church in search of healing for his mental ailment, to death.
The deceased who was placed on seven days fast without food or water, was chained to a coconut tree at the back of the church during the duration of the dry fast and was constantly beaten with a holy water cane till he became too weak and died on April 2nd.
Confirming the arrest of the Prophet, the State Commissioner of Police, Mohammed Mustapha said on March 28th, the victim, Monday Edjedjere was taken to Prophet Urovbu for prayer and healing by his mother.
The Sun reported that the church General Overseer billed the troubled mother N24,000, out of which she was able to pay N8,000 and thereafter returned to her Awsha community home leaving her son in the care of Prophet Urovbu. He further added her return to the church three days after, precisely on March 30th the woman met her son chained to a coconut tree with injuries all over his body.
Speaking to newsmen, Prophet Moses Urovbu said;
''I am the General Overseer of God Revival Prayer Ministry. I started my ministry in 1989. I have a large congregation spread across four branches of my church in Warri, Ughelli, Ewu, and Bayelsa State. I do pray for all kinds of people who are sick in my church. It was the mother of the deceased that brought him to my church because he was suffering from madness. I admitted him for prayers and billed them N24, 000 and the mother paid just N8, 000. I put the deceased on seven days dry fast. He started proving stubborn and broke the church plastic chairs. As a result, my pastors joined me and we chained him to a tree at the back of the church. The injuries on his body were sustained while flogging him with holy water cane so that he can be healed. It was when the mother discovered the condition of her son was not improving that she said I should release him to them. I refused because I can handle the situation. Unfortunately, the boy fell down, collapsed and died. On that fateful day, I still discharged five people who had similar sickness and I healed them and they are right in their houses now.”
The suspect's arrest however came after the deceased's brother, Michael Edjedjere, reported the matter to the police immediately it was discovered that his brother had died.
''When my mother told me about the critical condition of my brother, Monday, I felt bad especially when I heard he was chained by Prophet Moses. I called Prophet Moses on phone and told him that he should release my brother to me to take him to the hospital. But the prophet refused, boasting that he will heal him. It was two days later, my mother called me that my brother is dead. I didn’t believe it. I quickly rushed to Ughelli Police Station to report the case and that was how he was arrested.”  Michael said
Fouad was the Director General of the campaign organization of Lagos Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode
… Ametuo wins in Kogi
Alhaji Tunde Balogun on Saturday emerged the chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos.
The Chairman of APC Congress Committee in the state, Senator Uche Ekwuenife, has earlier said there would be no voting during the exercise.
Thus the new executives were picked based on affirmation by the delegates.
Also, Alhaji Haddi Ametuo has emerged as the factional chairman of the party in Kogi State.
The erstwhile party chieftain emerged at the APC parallel Congress held at Felele area of Lokoja, the state capital.
The faction has the backing of the Audu/Faleke APC Political Organization, while Alhaji Ibrahim Ahovi, the Acting Chairman of the party in the state, was supported by Governor Yahaya Bello.
The Congress produced a secretary and 25 other state executive members.
The Director General of Media and Publicity to the Governor, Mr. Kingsley Fanwo, has however described the group as lacking morals and discipline.
According to Fanwo, Ametuo and his “co-travellers” have committed a “political treason.”
Fanwo, in a statement in Lokoja, described the group as a “shameless fraud that had no regard for the APC constitution.”
Smile APC congresses yet to start in Edo, A-Ibom, Cross River, Rivers
@POLITICSNGR
The nationwide state congresses of the All Progressives Congress (APC) scheduled for May 19 are yet to start in the four South-South states of Edo, Akwa Ibom, Cross River and Rivers.
In Edo, accreditation had not started at about 10.28 a.m with heavy security at the Imaguero College, along Sapele road, venue of the congress.
The visible presence of security operatives comprising the Nigerian Police, Nigerian Security and Civil Defense Corps, the Directorate of State Service and the Police Mobile Force.
An authoritative source at the party secretariat revealed that delegates and duly accredited media personnel would be conveyed to the venue of congress.
Similarly, national officials of the APC were yet to arrive the venue of the congress, but INEC officials deployed to observe the exercise arrived at about 11:30 a.m.
It was observed that the more than 800 accredited delegates later arrived the venue in batches from Uruokpota hall, where they were accredited.
From Bayelsa, security had been beefed up at the APC secretariat in Yenagoa following the party state congress.
However, electoral materials were yet to arrive while accreditation of delegates started at about 11 a.m.
About 36 positions would be contested at the state congress.
The party’s state Organising Secretary, Mr Tonye Okio, told newsmen that about 3,000 delegates are expected to vote in the congress.A report from Akwa Ibom says controversy had marred the APC state congress scheduled for Saturday at the party secretariat in Uyo.
According to Mr Godwin Akwaowo, the APC Chapter Chairman in Eket Local Government Area, the state congress did not start due to the controversy.
He said: “They have not started the state congress yet because there is a lot of confusion in the party.
“Members of the party wants to embark on protest so that the rancour will be resolved once and for all.’’
Akwaowo alleged that stakeholders met on Friday and agreed that the state Chairman and the Secretary of the party should step down, but the party refused.
“We had a meeting last night and this morning and decided that the Chairman and Secretary should step down but the party says they shouldn’t step down,’’ he said.
However, he said that the party was looking for a way forward on how to resolve the issues.
Consequently, the congress was yet to commence as at 11 a.m at the Sheergrace Event Centre, along Nsikak Eduok Avenue, venue of the exercise, which was empty but for some newsmen, security personnel and few other persons.
Party officials and INEC officials were also not present at the venue at about 11.15 a.m.
“I have been waiting here since 9 a.m and it seems the congress will start very late because nobody is forthcoming with any information from the party secretariat.
“I hope they will not keep us here waiting indefinitely throughout today,’’ a correspondent of the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN), Mr Ekemini Ubong.
In Rivers, the APC rescheduled congress for Ward was expected to hold between 10 a.m and 1 p.m on Saturday, while the rescheduled Local Government congress was billed for Sunday from 2 p.m to 5 p.m with the State congress slated for Monday.
The state party leadership said it had opened its secretariat for issuance of nomination forms to intending contestants in the Ward congress as a result of the new dates.
Mr Chris Finebone, Publicity Secretary of APC in Rivers, who confirmed this in a statement in Port Harcourt on Saturday, added that the forms would be issued based on presentation of the bank tellers.
He said that the development was in line with the cancellation of the Ward and Local Government Congresses and the rescheduling of same for Saturday and Sunday, May 19 and 20, respectively.
He said the rescheduling of the congresses was directed by the party’s national leadership.
“The Rivers chapter of APC wishes to emphasise, for the avoidance of doubt, that the state office was opened on Friday, May 18, for issuance of forms to intending contestants in the Ward Congress on presentation of bank tellers.
“It will remain open from 7 a.m on Saturday, May 19, for the aforementioned purpose,” he said.
Finebone said that in exercise of its powers of discretion, the national leadership had also waived payment to bank for the rescheduled local government and state congresses because of the weekend.
He stated that intending contestants in the local government and state congresses could collect their forms after making cash payments to either the State Secretary or the Administrative Secretary’s offices at the party secretariat.
The spokesman advised all intending contestants and party faithful to take maximum advantage of the opportunity.
This followed the cancellation of the May 5 exercise by the national secretariat of the party.
Chief Davies Ikanya, the state APC Chairman, told journalists on Saturday in Port Harcourt that the party had deployed officials to conduct the rescheduled congresses.
Ikanya explained that the action was sequel to a letter signed by the National Chairman of APC, Chief John Oyegun, and Secretary, Mr Mai Bala Bunu, rescheduling the state congress for May 21.
He confirmed that the party secretariat was opened on May 18 to issue forms to intending contestants on presentation of bank tellers.
“After the APC national secretariat announced the cancellation of the ward and local government congresses conducted on May 5 and 12, respectively, we immediately started the process as directed by the APC.
“We opened the secretariat and started issuing forms to intending contestants as directed by party secretariat for the rescheduled ward congress,’’ the state chairman said.
According to Ikanya, legal issues on the stoppage of congresses in Rivers are within the power of the APC national secretariat to address.
“I am not a lawyer to talk about court injunction but it is within the party’s national secretariat to handle.
“It is APC national secretariat that cancelled and rescheduled the ward and local government congresses, so, ours is to implement the directive,” he explained.
But Prince Peter Odike, the state APC Deputy Chairman and supporter of Sen. Magnus Abe, in a statement said that the court order stopping congresses in the state was still subsisting.
Odike urged his supporters to stay away from the congress.
Correspondents in Calabar reported of tight security at the Cultural Centre, Calabar, venue of the state APC congress.
Security men including the Army, DSS, Police and officials of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps were securing the venue and to prevent any breach of peace.
Accreditation of delegates, who crowded the entrance of the venue, for the congress scheduled to commence at 10 a.m was yet to commence.
Journalists were also barred temporarily from entering the venue of the congress to ensure accurate reportage of the exercise.
A faction loyal to Asiwaju Tinubu had made public the full results of their own congress even as the election of new party officers is just about to start at ACME Road.
Meanwhile, Muiz Banire and others are holding a parallel Congress at Airport Hotel, dismissing Tinubu's Congress as illegal, citing that it is based on 57 Local Governments and theirs on the Constitutional 20 Local Governments as stipulated in the constitution of Nigeria.
Mr Banire who is the National Legal Adviser of APC, while addressing his supporters said, they will not surrender Lagos to those who only want to keep enriching themselves without the interest of the masses, saying that they will do everything possible to truncate the continued reign of Tinubu in Lagos.
At the end of today, APC in Lagos may produce two different state excos, and may lead to further chaos in the party.
PDP Press Conference
APC, FG Commence Total Clampdown on Opposition
The National Working Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), after due consideration of the state of the nation, particularly the clampdown on opposition and dissenting voices, states as follows;
The PDP alerts all Nigerians that the All Progressives Congress (APC) and its Federal Government have commenced a vicious and direct clampdown of major opposition leaders, perceived political opponents and individuals with interests and views that are divergent to those of their Presidential aspirant, perhaps, candidate, President Muhammadu Buhari, ahead of the 2019 general elections.
The clampdown is tailored to silence opposition as well as those who refused to join or support the APC in their unlawful design to emasculate other political parties, undermine our laws and electoral system, foist a one-party state and perpetuate their incompetent, dysfunctional and anti-people rule on our nation.
It is instructive to inform that our leaders, particularly, our National Chairman, Prince Uche Secondus, have been receiving threats since the PDP filed a petition to the United Nations and the Commonwealth of Nations, detailing documented threats to democracy by the APC and its Federal Government, abuse of human rights, mass killings, extra-judicial executions, persecution of opposition and unabated constitutional violations.
The PDP is aware of clandestine plots against key opposition leaders, particularly, members of the PDP National Working Committee, some dissenting members of the APC, members of the civil society, opinion leaders, journalists and bloggers, who refuse to succumb to intimidation and that such persons have already been listed and currently being trailed by agents of the state.
This has become manifest in the plot to rope members of “nPDP”, especially those in the National Assembly, into gun-running and murder charges just because they came out to voice their opposition to the APC government’s constitutional violations and executive brigandage in the running of our nation’s affairs.
The PDP wants Nigerians and the international community to know those to hold responsible should PDP leaders, as well as other members of the opposition start falling victims of untoward situations like assassinations, unexplained accidents, inexplicable "armed robbery” attacks, high profile abduction and sudden disappearances.
These include wanton arrest, manhandling and detention of opposition leaders on trumped-up charges, as well as illegal invasion of their homes and businesses by agents of the state.
Apart from allegations of corruption, there are also plots to clamp down and detain opposition leaders for charges bordering on treason and the PDP is also aware that some compromised judicial officers have been enlisted to give convictions and jail members of opposition as well as dissenting voices, on flimsy grounds.
Moreover, we know that the APC is fixated with the PDP because of the renewed popularity of our party among Nigerians, as the inevitable vehicle to return power to the people, restore democracy, national cohesion and safeguard our territorial integrity, come 2019.
The PDP’s response to all these plots is that we are not cowed. Nigeria belongs to all of us and our laws on political engagements are very clear. The PDP, as a party committed to democracy and freedom will continue to uphold the inalienable rights of our citizens to free speech, political association and to politically aspire to any position in the land, including the Presidency.
Our party, therefore, urges all Nigerians to be alert, united and remain resolute in their decision to collectively defend our democracy and its tenets, constitutionally guaranteed personal freedom and the rule of law in our nation.
@POLITICSNGR
Chief Arthus Eze, Chairman of Atlas Oranto Petroleum has praised President Muhammadu Buhari on the fight against corruption in the country adding that he deserved a second term in office.
PoliticsNGR gathered that Eze made this commendation while speaking to Journalists in Lokoja, Kogi state adding that the president was on course and needed the support of all Nigerians.
"Anyone who knows President Buhari knows that he is a disciplinarian, allergic to corruption and no president had fought corruption ruthlessly the way Buhari is dealing with it now.
This stand and disposition has portrayed the image of the country in positive manner and the country is now being respected by the international communities,” he said.
Eze said the Buhari government’s recovery of funds was amazing and advised that such recovered money should be used for building infrastructure such as roads, healthcare, power and housing projects for the benefit of Nigerians.
According to him, this country has been dragged backwards for so long and it is now the time to make steady progress and development.
He pointed out that although he was not a politician “but he supports good candidates such as Buhari because he is focused and have the interest of the nation at heart”.
  Turkish president tells OIC leaders that Israel must be held accountable for the kill
Turkish president tells OIC leaders that Israel must be held accountable for the killing of Palestinians in Gaza Strip.
Quote:
Istanbul, Turkey - Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has called on Muslim leaders to unite and confront Israel, days after scores of Palestinians were killed by Israeli snipers as they marked 70 years of Israeli occupation.
Speaking at an extraordinary summit of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) on Friday, Erdogan said Israel should be held accountable over the killings which drew widespread international condemnation and triggered a wave of protests from Asia, through the Middle East, to North Africa.
"To take action for Palestinians massacred by Israeli bandits is to show the whole world that humanity is not dead," Erdogan told the group of Muslim leaders gathered in Turkey's largest city, Istanbul.
The Turkish president described Israel's killing of Palestinians as "thuggery, atrocity and state terror,"and said the US' recognition of Jerusalem as Israel's capital would inevitably haunt it.
'US part of the problem'
On Monday, just as the US went ahead with the controversial relocation of its embassy to Jerusalem, 62 Palestinians, including five children, were killed and more than 2,700 wounded as the Israeli army fired live ammunition and tear gas at protesters who had assembled hundreds of metres from a 1949 armistice line between Gaza and Israel.
The protesters in the besieged enclave had gathered to commemorate Nakba Day - an event in 1948 when Zionist paramilitaries ethnically cleansed Palestinian cities and towns. About 750,000 people were forcibly expelled from historical Palestine.
The Istanbul summit was attended by several heads of state, but Saudi Arabia, the host of the 57-member OIC, sent only a senior foreign ministry official. Egypt, Bahrain and the UAE also deployed lower level ministers.
Speaking at the conference, Qatar's Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani said the Palestinian cause had "become a symbol for oppressed peoples everywhere" and condemned Israel for "brutal massacre" of peaceful demonstrators.
"Who among us does not know the declared siege forced on Gaza Strip and collective punishment against its population?" the emir said.
"The Gaza Strip has been transformed into a large concentration camp for millions of people who are deprived of their most basic rights to travel, education, work and medical treatment.
"When their sons take arms they are called terrorists, and when they stage peaceful demonstrations they are called extremists, and are shot dead with live ammunition."
For his part, Palestinian Prime Minister Rami Hamdallah said the US had become "part of the problem and not the solution" and called the relocation of the embassy "an act of aggression against the Islamic nation, against Muslims and Christians".
Jordanian King Abdullah II urged for the adoption of urgent measures to back "the resistance of Palestinians", while Iranian President Hasan Rouhani called for economic and political measures against the US and Israel.
Late on Friday, the OIC issued a final communique calling on the United Nations to form an international investigation into the killings in Gaza; the creation of an international protection force for Palestinians, and for the OIC to place economic restrictions on any countries, companies or individuals who recognise Israel's annexation of Jerusalem.
Thousands protest in solidarity with Palestine
Earlier in the day, Erdogan told a raucous crowd of more than 10,000 people in Istanbul's Yenikapi fairground that the Muslim world had to unite and "pull themselves back together".
Palestine rally: Iran protest against Israel's Gaza killings
"Muslims are way too busy fighting and disagreeing with themselves, and shy away when confronted by their enemies," he told the audience.
"Since 1947, Israel has been free to do what it likes in this region. They do whatever they feel like. But this reality can be undone … if we unite."
Earlier this week, Turkey recalled its envoys to Israel and the US following the killings of the Palestinians and the relocation of Washington's embassy from Jerusalem to Tel Aviv.
Tolgar Memis, a German-Turk, said he came to the rally to support Erdogan's recent remarks and policies against Israel.
"What we've seen over the last few years, all the injustice, and what happened earlier this week - it's simply unacceptable.
"Erdogan has made great strides in defending the Palestinians, something he is obligated to do, and hopefully other leaders will follow his cue."
  Lagos SARS Operatives Who Extorted N5,000 From Woman And Her Friends Arrested
User Avatar Forum: Other Stories
Posted by: Edoman - 05-19-2018, 11:28 AM - No Replies
[Image: sars.png]
A digital marketer, Ifeoluwa Adegoke, caused a stir on the social media on Thursday after sharing her encounter with some operatives of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad in the Ikorodu area of Lagos State.
Adegoke said she was forced to part with N5,000 to save her life and that of her colleagues, who were accosted by the policemen around 1.20pm while going for a photo shoot.
The victim, who shared a snapshot evidence of the fund transfer and the photo of one of the policemen, alleged that the operatives threatened to kill them.
“With my encounter today, it is safe to say SARS men are armed robbers. I was going for a photo shoot in Ikorodu today (Wednesday) and armed robbers SARS pulled us over and made us pay for no reason, threatening that they were gonna waste our lives. I made a transfer so they can be traced,” she wrote on her Twitter page.
The tweet went viral as some Nigerians, who lived in the Ikorodu area, identified one of the policemen, Inspector Omotosho Olushola Charles, as a habitual extortionist.
They alleged that Charles had forced them at different times to part with various sums of money without committing any offence.
Adegoke, who later shared her ordeal in details, said the encounter gave her a new perspective of SARS men.
She said, “My colleagues and I left Surulere for Ikorodu, where we were to do a photo shoot. We were four in the car and I was the only female.
“When we got to Ikorodu, the SARS operatives, who were in a vehicle, asked our driver to stop; they were five in their bus – all fully armed.
“They said we were suspected criminals and asked us to come down. They asked the driver to come down too. They checked the car, took our phones and went through them. When they did not find anything, they said we were thieves and cult members.
“When I challenged them that we did nothing wrong, one of them said he would slap me. I told my colleagues to keep calm because I knew it would be stupid for us to argue with armed policemen. I told my colleagues that they would demand money from us in the end.”
She explained that after the search did not yield any fruit, the officials demanded N100,000.
Adegoke said she took the operatives through her social media account to show them that they were managing to survive.
“But they said they did not care. I told the inspector that since we were not the kind of people they were looking for and since they did not find anything incriminating on us, they should just release us.
“They said they were going to release us because we were not the kind of people they were looking for; but they won’t release us for free. They started cocking their guns to threaten us; they said they would shoot us.
“I approached one of them and begged that we did not have the N100,000 because we were only young people searching for our daily bread. I told him that I had just N5,000 in my account and he should allow me to transfer it to them,” she added.
She noted that the men refused to accede to her request, just as she remained adamant so as to have evidence of the extortion.
The social media enthusiast said after some murmurs of disapproval, the operatives agreed.
“After we did the transfer, they did not allow us to go until they got a credit alert on their mobile phone. The policeman who released his account number told the others that he was with his ATM card and he would withdraw the money for them to share.
“When we left, I traced the name and discovered that his bank account name, Omotosho Olushola Charles, is the same he uses for his Facebookaccount. That was how I got his picture,” she added.
The victim, who demanded that the policemen should be rounded up and prosecuted, said she and her colleagues could have been killed if they did not have any money on them.
She described the experience as an “eye-opener,” urging the authorities to reform the police force.
The Head of the Public Complaint Rapid Response Unit, Abayomi Shogunle, said Adegoke’s complaint had been received, adding that the police inspector had been arrested.
“My dearest @ife_luv12, I am glad to inform you that the account owner has been identified – Inspector Charles Omotosho, FSARS Ikorodu, Lagos. He is in custody; preliminary investigation ongoing. PCRRU will inform you on the next line of action. Sorry for the experience,” he tweeted.
The spokesperson for the Lagos State Police Command, SP Chike Oti, confirmed the arrest of the inspector, adding that the police authorities were investigating the incident.
He said, “We have arrested the policeman. His trial will commence soon. Any other person found culpable in the course of investigation will be made to face the full wrath of the law.”
AMCON takes possession of asset of Nigerian senator, Stella Oduah
May 18, 2018
Oladeinde Olawoyin
The Asset Management Corporation of Nigeria (AMCON) on Friday took over the asset of Sea Petroleum & Gas Limited and its affiliated companies.
The company is promoted by former Minister of Aviation and Nigerian senator, Stella Oduah.
A statement by Jude Nwauzor, AMCON spokesperson, said the organisation took possession of the company’s asset around 11:00a.m Friday.
The decision followed a judgement by Justice M.S. Hassan of the Federal High Court Lagos Division which granted an injunction against Sea Petroleum Oil & Gas Limited, on the application of AMCON.
“Princess Oduah-Ogiemwonyi, a serving member of the 8th Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria has been having a running battle with AMCON over her inability to settle her huge debt of nearly N20billion,” Mr Nwauzor said in the statement sent to PREMIUM TIMES.
“AMCON purchased the Eligible Bank Assets (EBAs) of Sea Petroleum & Gas Limited from Union Bank Plc sometime in 2012. But despite the overtures and genuine efforts made by AMCON to reach an amicable settlement, the Senator and her co-promoters have remained recalcitrant.
“Having exhausted all avenues of peaceful resolution of the humongous debt, AMCON had no other choice than to refer the matter to court. The order also affects Princess Stella Oduah’s other business interests for which AMCON has since appointed Moyosore Jubril Onigbanjo, SAN as Receiver over the assets of Princess Stella Oduah-Ogiemwonyi; Sea Petroleum Oil & Gas Limited; Sea Petroleum and Gas FZE as well as Star Tourism and Hotels Limited.”
The court also ordered the freezing of the funds of Sea Petroleum & Gas Limited and its affiliated companies and principal promoters held anywhere by any entity or persons in Nigeria, the statement said.
It also authorised AMCON and its Receiver, Moyosore Onigbanjo, to take over all assets pledged as collateral for the facility by Sea Petroleum Oil & Gas Limited.
“Justice Hassan specifically ordered Sea Petroleum Oil & Gas Limited and its affiliated companies to hand over the company’s business, which sits on over 9000 square metres of land in the fastest developing area of Lagos State along the Lekki-Epe Express Way; two Tank Farms of 500 metric tonnes capacity; a property at Maiyegun Tourism Zone, Lekki Peninsula Scheme 11, Lagos Island and a filling station complex at kilometre 14, Lekki Epe Expressway, Ikota, Lagos State,” the statement explained.
“The court order also listed a host of other assets across the country including Plot 2,block 12C, Babafemi Osapa Crescent Lekki, Lagos State; Block 5, house 4AMobolaji Johnson Estate, Lekki, Lagos State; Office/filling station at Jakande, Lekki, Lagos State; Office complex 1,2 and 3 km 14, Lekki-epe Expressway , Ikota, Lagos State; Filing station Complex at km14, Lekki Epe Expressway, Ikota Lagos State; Staff residential Quarters, Ikota Lagos State; E25-E36, Gat Oboh Drive, Millennium Estate, Oniru, Lagos State and F3-F5, SPG Road, Millennium Estate, Oniru, Lagos State. The rest include, SPG Agungi 2 Lekki Lagos State; Office/Filling station complex at Funmilayo Ransome Kuti, FCT, Abuja; Gas plant at Karu, FCT, Abuja; Filing station Complex, Lugbe, FCT Abuja and Agriculture Farm at Kuje, FCT Abuja.”
RHAPSODY OF REALITIES DAILY DEVOTIONAL
THE LORD IS GRACIOUS AND KIND
Saturday, May 19th .
Pastor Chris
_*Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need (Hebrews 4:16).*_
Satan has oppressed a lot of God’s children by making them feel unqualified to receive answers to their prayers. Understand that the Lord is more willing to meet your needs than you are to receive from Him. Romans 8:32 (AMPC) says, _*“He who did not withhold or spare [even] His own Son but gave Him up for us all, will He not also with Him freely and graciously give us all [other] things?”*_
Sadly, some believers, because of their ignorance of the Scriptures, assume God is always mad at them because of their sins. “I’ve sinned; I can’t have fellowship with the Father or ask Him for anything until I settle issues with Him,” they’d say. Some others believe they’re not “holy” enough to talk directly to the Father, and therefore require some “saints” to pray to Him on their behalf.
If only they understood His Word! In Isaiah 1:18, He said, _*“Come now, and let us reason together, saith the LORD: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool.”*_ The Lord Jesus came and made this a reality. He’s washed you in His precious blood as white as snow: _*“…but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God”*_ (1 Corinthians 6:11).
2 Corinthians 5:19 says, _*“To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them….”*_ God isn’t mad at you, and could never be. Romans 5:10 says, _*“For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life.”*_ Hallelujah!
What you need is to take advantage of His grace; be confident in His love. That way, you’d always be bold to approach Him, knowing that you have a right of hearing with Him. You’re ordained to receive answers when you make petitions or decrees in the Name of Jesus (John 15:16). Let this truth inspire faith in you, and strengthen your confidence to ask whatever you will; the Father is more willing to give to you than you’re willing to ask and receive. He’s gracious and kind.
*PRAYER*
*Dear Father, I thank you for your abundant grace that’s always available to me. Thank you for the blessings you’ve made available to me in Christ, and the right of hearing I have in your presence, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.*
*FURTHER STUDY:* *||* *Jeremiah 31:3* The LORD hath appeared of old unto me, [saying], Yea, I have loved thee with an everlasting love: therefore with lovingkindness have I drawn thee. *||*
*||* *John 16:23-24* And in that day ye shall ask me nothing. Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whatsoever ye shall ask the Father in my name, he will give [it] you. 24 Hitherto have ye asked nothing in my name: ask, and ye shall receive, that your joy may be full. *||*
*||* *Lamentations 3:22-23* [It is of] the LORD'S mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. 23 [They are] new every morning: great [is] thy faithfulness. *||*
*||* *Acts 20:32* And now, brethren, I commend you to God, and to the word of his grace, which is able to build you up, and to give you an inheritance among all them which are sanctified. *||*
  BREAKING NEWS! More Than 100 Feared Dead As Plane Crashes (First Photos)
[img=320x0]http://www.naijaloaded.com.ng/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/plane.jpg[/img]
More than 100 people have died after a Boeing 737 airliner crashed and exploded near Jose Marti International Airport in Havana, Cuban state media says.
Three people have survived but are in a critical condition in hospital, Cuban Communist Party newspaper Granma reported.
The plane came down shortly after take-off, crashing in a field.
It was carrying 104 passengers and nine foreign crew, according to local media.
“There has been an unfortunate aviation accident. The news is not very promising, it seems that there is a high number of victims,” Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel was quoted as saying.
The airliner had been leased by state airline Cubana de Aviación from the Mexican company Damojh, Cuban news agency Prensa Latina said.
State TV said it was an internal flight from the Cuban capital to the city of Holguin, in the east of the island.
Images showed a thick column of smoke rising above the crash site. Fire crews and ambulances are at the scene.
Radio Havana Cuba said on Twitter that the plane came down on the “highway” between Boyeros and Havana, near the airport.
  Syndicate Bursted With Fake N22m Currency By Gombe Police PIC
Gombe State Command of the Nigerian Police Force has declared that it has discovered fake notes totalling the sum of N22 million during a 'stop and search' operation aimed at stemming criminality in the state.
While parading the suspects before newsmen in Gombe on Friday, the Commissioner of Police, Shina Tairu  Olukolu disclosed that the men of the  Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad (FSARS), intercepted the syndicates of the fake currency dealers during a stop and search operation around Billiri local government area of the state.
The Police Commissioner said that “As I have always said, crime does not pay. These suspects have been dealing in fake currency for so long but the long arms of the law have finally caught up with them today".
He added that “I want to reiterate the resolve and commitment of the entire officers and men of the Command that we will stop at nothing to eradicate crime and criminalities in the state”.
While reacting to the allegation against them, one of the suspects, Sani Ibrahim confessed to Journalists that he became a dealer of fake naira notes to meet his basic needs due to the economic condition of the country.
Sani Ibrahim who looked remorse while talking to Journalists said, “It is not my wish to produce fake Naira notes. It was one Alhaji (names withheld for investigation purposes by the Police) who brought me into this line of illegal business last year when the economy became tough for me and I approached him for assistance".
He further confessed that “We operate in Gombe and Nasarawa states because that is where we have people who trade in our fake currency”.
Commissioner of Police assured that full-scale investigation is going on to track down all those involved in the criminal acts pointing out that as soon as possible they will be arraigned.
Shina Olukolu also used the medium to warn politicians in the state to shun political violence as the Police will not tolerate any form of malpractices in the scheduled state congress of the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) which is holding on Saturday in the state.
He advised anyone who does not have any business in the conduct of the exercise to steer clear of the venue warning that anyone caught causing a breach of the peace will not be spared by the Police.
  APC Holds State Congress Accros Country As Tension Mountd
User Avatar Forum: Retired Forums. Please Make Your Post Within The 3 Forums In General Discussion
Quote:By Felix Nwaneri and Temitope Ogunbanke 
The All Progressives Congress (APC) has been gripped by tension as the ruling party holds its state congresses across the country tomorrow.
While a few state chapters of the party have already harmonized positions to ensure that the exercise is hitch-free, it is anxiety in most states as the various blocs and factions battle to control the party’s structure.
The state congresses will elect officials who will run the affairs of the party in states for the next four years. Among states that will be battle ground are Imo, Lagos, Rivers, Kaduna, Kano, Bauchi, Oyo, Ogun, Cross River, Benue, Ondo, Kogi and Taraba. Crises have trailed the ward and local government congresses in these states and there are no signs that tomorrow’s state congress would be an exception.
In Lagos for example, it is a fierce battle among loyalists of the APC National Leader, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, for the chairmanship of the party. Already, six members of the party have declared interests to replace the outgoing chairman, Chief Henry Ajomale.
They are former Head of Service in the state, Dr. Sunny Ajoseh; former members of the Senate, Tokunbo Afikuyomi and Ganiyu Solomon; a grassroots politician, Alhaji Mutiu Are; former Commissioner for Home Affairs and Culture, Tunde Balogun and the incumbent Vice Chairman (Lagos West APC), Chief Funso Ologunde.
A party source, who confirmed the list to New Telegraph, yesterday, said the party leaders were divided over who would emerge as Ajomale’s successor and that is why none of the aspirants has been unanimously endorsed ahead of the congress.
He said though members of the new executive would emerge through consensus arrangement, leaders of the party in the state were yet to decide as at yesterday, who would be chairman among the aspirants. But he hinted that the chairman may likely emerge from Lagos Central senatorial district.
His words: “Though the chairmanship race seems to have been narrowed down to people from Lagos Central, only Tinubu can decide who will be the chairman among the aspirants.
Nobody can predict what Tinubu will do because all the aspirants are close to him and he may decide to back anyone of them for the position.” Also speaking to New Telegraph, a member of the State Working Committee (SWC), said: “A lot of people are showing interest, but it is only those who collected forms that we know are contesting.
Nobody can say this is the person who is going to be the next chairman because the calculation may change at the last minute.
In fact, some members of the present executive are not even sure whether they will return or not. So, we are all looking forward to Saturday to know the next executives.” In Taraba, there was a call yesterday for the state congress to be postponed.
The Secretary of one of the factions in the state chapter of the party (Unity Forum), Mr. Aaron Artimas, who made the call, said that at least six local government areas might have their ward congresses cancelled as a result of massive irregularities that marred local government congresses. He listed the councils to include Ibi, Donga, Lau, Takum, and Ussa and added that the ward congress in seven out of the 10 wards in Jalingo Local Government Area also stand the risk of cancellation.
“Some aspirants came in with desperation and were willing to do whatever it took to have their persons on the delegates’ lists.
That is why we had a situation where the duly assigned returning officers would collect materials and these would be snatched from them by hoodlums hired by desperate politicians,” he said.
Artimas accused the party leadership of not playing fair and taking sides with the Minister of Women Affairs, Senator Aisha Alhassan, against other aspirants.
He said: “Some of the aspirants have lost electoral value to a great extent and they felt the only way to succeed was to rig. Unfortunately, the current party leadership in the state is not being fair to all.
They have taken sides with Senator Aisha Alhassan, who has promised to return them to their offices. And we believe that she is being used by some political interests in the state to destabilise the party ahead of 2019 general elections in the state.
”It would be recalled that most governors of the party had seized the opportunity of the May 5 and 12 ward and local government congresses to affirm their grip on structures at the grassroots. Results of both exercises also show that most senators and ministers lost control of the party’s structure in their respective wards and councils.
It was, however, mixed fortunes for the governors of Imo and Benue states, Rochas Okorocha and Samuel Ortom, who lost to opposing camps in the their respective states. In states under the control of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) such as Rivers and Akwa Ibom, political appointees like ministers and heads of agencies of governments and parastatals held sway.
Among senators who had poor outing in the ward and local government congresses were Senators Shehu Sani, (Kaduna Central), Suleiman Hunkuyi (Kaduna North), Ajay Boroffice (Ondo North), Solomon Adeola (Lagos West), Magnus Abe (Rivers South East), Nafiz Gamawa (Bauchi North), Rabiu Kwankwaso, (Kano Central), Lanre Tejuosho (Ogun Central), Yele Omogunwa (Ondo South), David Umaru (Niger East), Adamu Aliero (Kebbi Central) and Kabiru Marafa (Zamfara Central). The ministers are Chief Audu Ogbeh (Agriculture), Babatunde Fashola (Power, Works and Housing), Abubakar Malami (Justice) and Geoffrey Onyeama (Foreign Affairs).
The lady, Adegoke Ifeoluwa, narrated how, on Wednesday, Inspector Olushola Charles Omotosho, attached to FSARS, Ikorodu, Lagos, had harassed her and some people with her, asking for money and threatening to “waste” everyone should she fail to give the money as required.
Ifeoluwa said she told Omotosho that she had no cash and that she would do a transfer.
Immediately he received notification for the tag, Shogunle responded, assuring Ife that they would track down the offender.
The Nigeria Police on Thursday arrested Omotosho for allegedly harassing and collecting bribe from Ifeoluwa.
Shogunle later provided details of the arrest of the suspected Police officer on Thursday on Twitter.
  Expel Okorocha From APC - Araraume, Uzodinma, Izunaso
User Avatar Forum: Politics
Posted by: Edoman - 05-18-2018, 05:27 PM - No Replies
OWERRI—THE crisis in the Imo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress, APC, escalated yesterday after leading chieftains of the party called on the national leadership of the party to expel Governor Rochas Okorocha from the party.
The demand made by Senators Ifeany Ararume, Hope Uzodinma, Osita Izunaso among others came as the confusion on ground deepened with different factions of the party suspending leading lights of each other.
The stakeholders in a petition to the national leadership of the party affirmed that for the party to be repositioned to win the Southeast in 2019 that the party must get rid of Governor Okorocha. Consequently, they asked the president to declare a state of emergency in Imo as a way of halting further violence in the area. In a strongly worded letter to the national chairman of the party, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, the stakeholders said; “As our party chairman, kindly bring to the notice of our dear President that should the governor in his megalomania procure further violence in his child like tantrums, a state of emergency in Imo State would be a natural consequence. There’s no other state that the president visited five times to appeal to its people and yet we wobbled.
Our party must rid itself of this incorrigible worm, he is indeed a cankerworm.” “This attempt to drag the state into further violence in the face of a non-existent state assembly only points to the complete breakdown of an already non-existent governance for which the state of emergency envisaged in the Section 305 of our Constitution is to be declared”.
Those who signed the letter on behalf of Imo APC stakeholders include Senators Ben Uwajimogu, Hope Uzodinma, Ifeanyi Araraume, Osita Izunaso, Hon. Chukwuemeka Nwajiuba, Hon. Mike Ohia and Hon. Austin Chukwukere. The APC chairman in Oguta Local Government who is the leader of all the APC local government chairmen in the state, Hon. Cassidy Ohamara equally aligned his group with the contents of the letter.
They thanked the National Working Committee of the party “for standing firm to the rules and guidelines of our party and upholding our duly conducted and video recorded congresses across our State, inspite of the unruly and unlawful conduct/misconduct of our state governor, who happens to be one of our party members”.
“You may thus be alarmed that with the near bankruptcy of our state, reeling in this wanton misgovernance, is yet the subject of the threat contained in the governor’s letter to you stating that he is aware of the burning of the Secretariat of our party. Whilst threatening further mayhem. He also has forwarded to you his videos of those he caught with result sheets (which the party did not report missing).
The governor having arrested those people (who are contractors of Government House, Owerri), and having called the police and the media himself, proceeded to conduct the investigation himself”. The letter was copied the President Federal Republic of Nigeria, Chairman and Deputy Chairman (South) of the Party, National Assembly, all State Governors, the National Security Adviser, the Inspector General of Police, DG, Department of State Services as well as members of the National Working Committee NWC of the party for necessary action.
  58-year-old Man Arrested For Defiling A 12-year-old Pupil
User Avatar Forum: Other Stories
Posted by: Edoman - 05-18-2018, 05:22 PM - No Replies
58-year-old Lambert Ighodaro, has been arrested by the Edo State Police Command for reportedly raping a 12-year-old pupil in Benin, the state capital.
The suspect's arrest came after the victim’s class teacher, who noticed her continuous absence from school contacted her guardians. It was gathered that during the teachers’ visit to her guardians’ house, the pupil disclosed that the suspect had been sexually abusing her. She also added that the Mr.Lambert offered her money each time he allegedly raped her.
The acting Chairman of the State Universal Basic Education Board, Dr Joan Oviawe, who explained that the board received a complaint from the management of the school, also said the board was also investigating two other cases of alleged  sexual abuse of two girls aged 11 and eight.
“This (arrest) was after SUBEB received a report of the incident from the class teacher of the 12-year-old girl, who is a pupil in one of government’s primary schools,” she said.
Oviawe, who is also the Special Adviser to the Governor on Basic Education, also told newsmen that the state government has set up a committee to check the rate of defilement of children in the state, in a renewed effort to strengthen the Child Rights Law to address issues of sexual abuse of children.
According to her, SUBEB is concerned about the welfare of children and will continue to assist victims of rape to overcome the stigma and ensure that the perpetrators are prosecuted.
“Teachers who were trained recently in the Edo Basic Education Sector Transformation programme were trained on ways to identify children who have been abused physically and sexually.
“The state government is reviewing existing child rights law to strengthen it to combat all forms of abuse against children.”
Few weeks ago, a 40-year-old man, Abdullahi Umar, was arraigned before a Katsina State Magistrates’ Court for allegedly raping three primary school pupils.
In what will come across as a really shocking development, some daredevil armed robbers this morning blew up two bullion vans filled with money along Atlas Road towards the N12 just before North Rand Road intersection in South Africa.
Police spokesperson Captain Mavela Masondo said that the police’s speedy response to the heist resulted in the quick arrest.
“We also recovered a rifle after the cash-in-transit heist which happened at about 9.30am. It is alleged that more than 10 suspects who were driving in four vehicles approached two G4S security vans.
"They started shooting at the vans. Then there was a shoot-out between the security officers and the suspects. The suspects managed to blow up the cash vans and take some cash.   Banks Exploit CBN's Weakness To Impose Excessive Charges On ATM Users
User Avatar Forum: Business/Investment
Posted by: Edoman - 05-18-2018, 03:01 PM - No Replies
When SaharaReporters sought clarification from the bank on why its machines have a lower single transaction limit, which means more charges, especially to non-FCMB customers, the bank’s Head of Media Relations, Louis Ibe, said it is a cash management strategy
Quote:BY BANJO DAMILOLA
Many Nigerian banks are ripping off customers making withdrawals via Automated Teller Machines (ATMs) by setting low maximum single withdrawal limits to cleverly sidestep the weak Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) policy against excessive charges, SaharaReporters can reveal.
In September 2014, the CBN re-introduced the Remote-On-Us fee to discourage abuse of the banking technology through numerous daily withdrawals, which led to increase in cash transactions and constituted a negation of the apex bank’s much touted cashless policy. The Remote-On-Us, a fee of N65, is charged when a bank customer makes a withdrawal from the ATM of a bank of which he/she is not a customer.
It was first introduced in 2012 when the CBN, in collaboration with the Bankers’ Committee, made it the responsibility of a customer’s bank to pay N100 as Remote-On-Us Fee if such a customer uses the ATM of another bank. The N65 charge, according to the CBN, is only applicable after three transactions at the machine of bank that is not the cash issuer.
SaharaReporters, however, gathered from customers that most banks start charging from the first operation when a non-customer uses their machines.
At the time, all ATMs had the capacity to dispense N40, 000 in a single withdrawal if a customer was carrying out the transaction with the card issued by his/her bank, while a maximum of N20,000 could be withdrawn at once if a card issued by another bank was being used.
While this remains in operation at Access Bank, Standard Chartered Bank and Diamond Bank, many other banks have re-configured their machines to dispense lower amounts, thereby creaming off N65 on each transaction, especially from users withdrawing sizeable sums.
First City Monument Bank (FCMB) ATMs, for instance, dispense N15, 000 to non-customers and N20, 000 to their customers. As a result, customers of other banks who make withdrawals of a naira higher than the set limit on FCMB machines are charged twice.
When SaharaReporters sought clarification from the bank on why its machines have a lower single transaction limit, which means more charges, especially to non-FCMB customers, the bank’s Head of Media Relations, Louis Ibe, said it is a cash management strategy.
“The decision on the limit from other banks’ cards is to manage our cash supply, so that our customers are given more access to cash,” Ibe said in an email reply to SaharaReporters’ enquiry.
While this appears plausible, further investigation by this website revealed that some of the machines dispense lower than N15,000 to non-FCMB customers.
The FCMB machine on Isaac John, Ikeja GRA, Lagos, has a single withdrawal limit of N10,000. Similarly, Fidelity, Skye and Ecobank have their cash machines programmed not to exceed the same amount in a single withdrawal.
A banker, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said banks programme to have low single withdrawal limits, so they could increase the number of times they charge N65 for use of ATMs.
“Banks are in the business to make money and they maximize every opportunity to make profit. I know for a fact that the machines are programmed to dispense N10, 000 or even less because I am in the department in charge of ATM in my branch.
“In some locations like markets, the machines are programmed to dispense as low as N5, 000. If you ask the banks, they would tell you it is to control the way people use the ATM or cash in circulation.
Whatever reason they give, the truth is they only want to make profit,” he said before jokingly adding, “you can’t blame them; that is how I get paid.”
A United Bank of Africa (UBA) customer lamented to our correspondent how she once had to withdraw a large sum from an Ecobank ATM that has been programmed not to dispense more than N5,000 at once.
“I ran out of cash while buying goods, so I went to the Oceanic Bank machine (Ecobank bought over Oceanic Bank in 2014) to withdraw money. I could not withdraw N10,000. I could only withdraw N5,000 at once and I was being charged N65 on each transaction,” she said with barely disguised displeasure.
Similarly, Skye Bank ATMs around Berger (Ojodu), Ikeja and Victoria Island, where our correspondent attempted to make withdraws, all have N10, 000 as maximum single withdrawal limit.
Each attempt on the machines resulted in the automated response: “Maximum amount exceeded. Please re-enter an amount less than NGN 10,000”.
However, the bank insisted that its machines could dispense as much as N40, 000 at a go to its customers.
“The daily limit of a customer is set on the card and such is set by the customer’s bank. Skye Bank cannot determine the daily limit and count of a customer of another bank,” Rasheed Bolarinwa, the bank’s Head of Corporate Communications, told SaharaReporters via email.
More ATM Users React
Customer displeasure at low single withdrawal limits, SaharaReporters discovered, is widespread.
A Stanbic Chartered Bank customer told this website that he cannot withdraw N40, 000 at once because the maximum limit is N20, 000.
“When I use a Stanbic card on other banks’ machines, some dispense N10,000, others N15,000. If I am making a withdrawal of N100,000, it means N65 will be charged on each transaction. The government should look into this and provide a solution,” he said.
A First Bank customer equally complained about the cash volume available in a single transaction. While stating that the machine indicates the possibility of N40,000 withdrawal at once, the limit is actually N20,000. His experience with the machines of other banks is similar.
“If one is using other banks’ machines, they also have limits, with some being as low as 10,000,” he said.
He narrated his experience when he used an ATM in Akure, Ondo State. According to him, he wanted to withdraw N15,000 from the ATM of a bank, but his request was rejected until he reduced it to N10,000.
“I felt bad. There is a regulation that if one does more than three operations, you pay on subsequent transactions.
Most banks don’t comply with the regulation.
“They start charging from the first operation because you are not using your bank’s machine,” he explained.
He suggested that any machine that advertises the possibility of dispensing N40,000 in a single transaction but dispenses a lower sum be taken out of the system.
Don’t blame the banks...
Banks, however, reject the blame being heaped on them by ATM users. A staff of Ecobank, who prefers not to be named, informed SaharaReporters that the withdrawal limits on machines are sometimes imposed by denomination of notes fed into them.
“There are some machines that dispense N20, 000. That means they have been loaded with N1000 notes and can dispense a maximum of 20 notes at once. But for machines that dispense N500 notes, it means the maximum possible is N10, 000,” he explained.
He equally informed that ATMs previously dispensed as much as N40,000, but banks were forced to reconfigure them to dispense lower amounts because the machines were experience frequent currency jamming.
“There was a time you could get up to 40 notes off the machine. But it was discovered that more the number of notes dispensed, the higher the chances of the machines to be jammed by notes. As such, they [banks) had to reduce it,” he disclosed.
Blame CBN
An Operations Manager of a new generation bank maintained that the banks are not breaking any rule, as there is none prescribing single withdrawal limits. He blamed the situation on the CBN, which he said has not made a rule on it.
The ATMs of his bank, he said, still dispense as much as N40,000 to customers at once and N20,000 to non-customers.
“The banks are free to set whatever limits they desire; they are not breaking any rules. There is no CBN law that says they cannot set a N10, 000-limit or even lower. If CBN gives a directive on what should be dispensed, the banks will obey. But in the absence of such, you cannot blame the banks but the regulator,” he told SaharaReporters.
Efforts to reach the CBN spokesperson, Isaac Okoroafor, were unsuccessful. Text messages and calls put through to his mobile line were ignored.
CPC will investigate
The Director General (DG) of Consumer Protection Council (CPC), Babatunde Irukera, informed SaharaReporters that the council has started the process of investigating all illegal bank charges. In addition to the N65 ATM charge, which he described as a violation of consumers’ rights, he said the CPC has notified the CBN of other charges and that a new guideline will released.
“Very shortly, we will open a very large investigation into these bank charges and bank operations with respect to consumers protection.
“Two things that have delayed the investigation is that we needed to curate more information and have a lot of data and secondly, we have a memorandum of understanding that we are negotiating with the CBN. “But we have not been able to negotiate key issues in the memorandum of understanding,” he disclosed.
Irukera added that the envisage investigation will commence in “in a matter of weeks”
Olalekan Adetayo, Abuja
Eighteen Federal Government’s revenue generating agencies failed to remit N526bn and $21bn into the Federation Account between 2010 and June 2015, an audit commissioned by the National Economic Council has revealed.
The Minister of Finance, Kemi Adeosun, has therefore recommended that the affected agencies be made to refund the money.
Gombe State Governor, Ibrahim Dankwambo, disclosed this to State House correspondents at the end of a meeting of the NEC presided over by Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo at the Presidential Villa, Abuja on Wednesday.
The council chaired by the Vice-President has all state governors, Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria and relevant ministers as members.
Dankwambo explained that the shortchanging by the agencies was detected by an audit firm, KPMG, which was contracted by the NEC to carry out a forensic audit of revenue remittances to the Federation Accounts by the NEC.
The governor listed the government agencies indicted of underpayment by the audit report to include the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, Federal Inland Revenue Service, Nigeria Customs Service, Nigerian Ports Authority, Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency and the Nigerian Communications Commission.
Others are the Central Bank of Nigeria, the Department of Petroleum Resources and the Nigerian Petroleum Development Company, among others.
Apart from refunding the money, Dankwambo said a sub-committee would be set up to look into the details of the infringement.
He said those found to be criminal in nature would be handed over to the Attorney General of the Federation for action.
The governor said, “KPMG presented the report of the technical audit of RGAs, concluding that a total sum of N526bn and $21 bn was underpaid to the Federation Account.
“NEC’s Ad-hoc Committee which I head with members including governors of Edo, Kaduna, Akwa Ibom, Lagos states and the finance minister recommended refund of the amounts underpaid.
“Council adopted the presentations and reports of the KPMG and the recommendations of its Ad-hoc Committee including a resolution to identify instances where there appears to have been criminal infringements and forward such to the Attorney General of the Federation and the Legal Committee of the National Economic Council for further action.
“Council resolved to pursue the strengthening of the NNPC’s governance structure to prevent further recurrence of such gross underpayment by the NNPC and other RGAs.”
The governor said it was resolved that the audit period be extended to June 2017.
“One of the resolutions of NEC is to extend the audit to June 2017. So the audit will continue for the remaining agencies.
“It is NNOC, NPDC, DPR, Customs, Federal Internal Revenue Services, NPA, Maritime Authorities, all the revenue generating agencies and the details of the infringement are contained in the report. It is a voluminous report; there are a lot of items that are there.
“The most important decision that was taken is that a sub-committee will be set up which will be an arm of the legal committee of NEC that will look into the details of these kinds of infringements and make sure that those issues that are criminal and require prosecution will be handled by the office of the Attorney General of the Federation.”
Zamfara State Governor, Abdulaziz Yari, said the issue of whether states should henceforth determine how much is paid as fuel subsidy and not NNPC came up at the meeting.
He, however, said a final decision on the matter would be taken at the next meeting.
He said, “We are doing the nitty-gritty with the NNPC in terms of remittances. Don’t forget that the reason we got it right in 2016 on the NNPC side was that the oil prices were too low. It was easy for everyone to get fuel into the country and then make their profit.
“So, when the price started jacking up, then marketers started adjusting back because they needed to have a template of cost recovery and how they are going to make up the difference from the pump price to the landing cost of what they are importing.
“Our problem is the volume, the quantity of consumption which is not acceptable. Working with the governors, so many decisions were taken but by next month, we are going to adopt that position either for the governors to take responsibility for the subsidy in their states based on the consumption or we look at other ways.
“For instance, if you say we paid N800bn subsidy, you will ask who are we paying the subsidy to? And if you look at the infrastructure development and capital programme of the Federal Government, it is about N1.1trn, almost 70 per cent of what you are spending on developing the economy.
“If there is no infrastructure development, then you cannot talk about the development of the economy. N800bn is a huge amount that we must look at it, who is benefiting from it.
“So, we are coming up with a strategy; we are going to meet in the months of May and June. By next meeting, we will definitely come up with a position of the government at both the level of volume of what is being brought into the country and what the state and federal governments collaborate to check.”
Adeosun reported to the council that the balance in the Excess Crude Account as of May 14, 2018, stood at $1, 830, 682, 945.30.
She also reported to Council that the current balance in the Stabilisation Account as of the same day stood at N15, 725,456,963.83.
She put the balance in the Natural Resources Development Fund at N116, 104,644,763.39.
The Minister of Budget and National Planning, Udo Udoma, gave an update to council on the just-concluded Economic Recovery Growth Plan Focus Labs.
Udoma told members that the Labs identified 164 projects spread across the six geopolitical zones of the country.
He said the outcome indicated that over 500,000 jobs were likely to be created by 2020 and that more labs would be conducted in due course for other sectors.
  Herdmen Crisis: FG Blames State Governors, Miyetti Allah Exonerated
User Avatar Forum: Politics
Posted by: Edoman - 05-18-2018, 01:40 PM - No Replies
By Dyepkazah Shibayan
Baba Ngelezarma, national secretary of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN), has blamed governors for clashes between herdsmen and farmers.
The clashes have led to the loss of many lives and destruction of properties worth millions of naira in Benue, Plateau, Taraba states among other states.
Speaking at a town hall meeting organised by the federal government in Abuja on Thursday, Ngelezarma said his organisation is not opposed to ranching but the government should make it attractive to the herders.
“We are not opposed to ranching, all that we are saying let us begin to identify grazing reserves, let us know their current status in the view of developing them and making them attractive to the pastorialist. The cow to them is a thing of prestige, a means of livelihood,” he said.
“You have to put something in place for them to see before you accept. A lot has been said about this issue. Up till now, nobody is looking at the root cause of the crisis and the people responsible are the state governors.
“How I wish through chairman of the governors forum or northern governors forum is here. He is supposed to be here. All the grazing reserves we have in the country are located in the northern part of the country.
“The state governors have more responsibility than the federal government because this is their primary assignment, they are custodians of the land, they are the custodians of security, education in their states. The federal government’s hand are tied, we know that.”
He said the association submitted a road map to Kashim Shettima, chairman of the northern governors forum, on ways the crisis could be resolved.
On his part, Peter Mayowa, a representative of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), said the open grazing should be allowed to continue while the government gradually introduces ranching.
“If you introduce a policy it will be difficult to implement, let the two (open grazing and ranching) together. The old one will phase out,” he said.
Earlier, Lai Mohammed, minister of information, reiterated that the clashes between herdsmen and farmers is not religious.
“For those who might be tempted to view the clashes between farmers and herdsmen from the ethno-religious prism, I will cite two instances to debunk such postulation.
Zamfara state is probably the epicentre of cattle rustling in Nigeria. Those who rustle cattle are Muslims. The owners of the cattle they rustle are Muslims. Both groups most likely belong to the same ethnic group,” the minister said.
“Then, there is the case of Kebbi state, where 70 percent of those who are in jail are there due to the clashes between farmers and herdsmen. The farmers whose crops are eaten by cows are Muslim Fulani, and the herders whose cows eat the crops are Muslim Fulani: same religion; same ethnicity.
“Yet, clashes still occur, to such a level that people land in jail. I have cited these examples so that we can be open to interrogating the real causes of the incessant clashes that have captured national and international attention and turned former neighbours to bitter enemies, so that together we can help to evolve a lasting solution to this crisis.”
  Violence at Check-in-Counter: Air peace blacklists unruly passenger
User Avatar Forum: Travel/Aviation
AIR PEACE yesterday blacklisted an unruly passenger who went into a rage and destroyed the airline’s check-in system at the General Aviation Terminal of the Murtala Muhammed Airport in Lagos on Tuesday as part of its move to checkmate the growing trend of attacks and violence by air travellers airline staff and property in the country
The blacklisted passenger destroyed the airline’s computer during the check-in formalities of its Lagos-Abuja flight on Tuesday. He reportedly claimed that the check-in process was too slow.
In a letter dated May 16 and addressed to the passenger, the airline described his conduct as “unacceptable.” Air Peace insisted that the passenger’s violent conduct constituted a safety risk to other members of the flying public and its staff.
Corporate Communications Manager of the airline, Mr. Chris Iwarah confirmed the development. The carrier, he said, took the decision to blacklist the unruly passenger in discharge of its obligation to protect members of the flying public and staff from harm.
“During the check-in formalities of our Lagos-Abuja Flight P47128 at the General Aviation Terminal of the Murtala Muhammed Airport, Ikeja, Lagos on Tuesday, May 15, an impatient passenger standing in the queue suddenly flew into a rage and destroyed one of our computers. The unruly passenger claimed he destroyed the check-in system because the process was too slow.
“We were, therefore, compelled by the need to guarantee the safety of members of the flying public and our staff to blacklist the passenger and to signal our resolve to henceforth penalize violent conduct towards our valued guests and staff as well as view unwarranted destruction of our facilities very seriously. We are currently reviewing about 14 similar cases to determine the appropriate action to take. In the last few months alone, our staff have frequently been attacked by aggrieved passengers at the slightest excuse. Facilities costing huge sums have also been destroyed in the process. This easy resort to violence by unruly passengers often results in flight disruptions, delays and frustrates our resolve to deliver the best flight experience to the flying public. This trend poses a grave danger to the lives of our esteemed guests and staff and such unruly passengers are no longer welcome on any of our flights.
“While we will continue to take all reasonable steps within our capacity to check violent conduct, we urge the regulatory authorities and security agencies to take a tough stand against this trend to ensure that the safety of law-abiding travellers and aviation staff is not compromised.”
Air Peace, however, assured that it would continue to regard genuine grievances by air travellers seriously and address them with dispatch.
“We affirm that a vast majority of our valued guests show understanding and cooperate with us and we are sincerely grateful for their support, patronage and loyalty. We solicit their support in checking the unfortunate violent behaviour of the handful of persons who often seek to frustrate our determination to provide quality flight services in a safe atmosphere. We have active online and physical channels through which members of the flying public can let us know their grievances with a view to addressing them and we appeal to them to consider this a better option than a resort to violence and self-help,” Iwarah said.
Air Peace had in the past issued different statements warning that it would no longer tolerate attacks on its staff and destruction of its facilities by passengers. In April 2017 when some passengers attacked its staff and destroyed its facilities at different airports in the country, the carrier issued a statement warning that “we can no longer tolerate unruly passengers.”
  2019: There’s Plot To 'Technically Knockout’ Buhari – Sen Marafa
User Avatar Forum: Politics
Posted by: Edoman - 05-18-2018, 11:30 AM - No Replies
The chairman of the Senate Committee on Petroleum, Senator Kabiru Marafa (APC, Zamfara), in this interview raised alarm that plots are on to technically knockout President Muhammadu Buhari in the 2019 election.
It was reported that last Saturday you were tear-gassed during a parallel congress conducted by your camp in Zamfara. What really happened ?
There was an incident in my local government. The police I believe under the instruction of the state government mobilised heavily to prevent an innocent citizen from carrying out his civic responsibility, and that was me.
Saturday, 12th of May was the date fixed by the APC for local government congresses, and as a party man and a politician, I drove to my local government headquarters where the event was supposed to take place. On reaching there, I met massive security buildup comprising mobile policemen and officials of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).
I was informed that the Area Commander was there, so I tried to see him but I couldn't. There was an APC vehicle stationed there, this time not APC political party but Armored Personnel Carrier. Before I knew it, one of my mobile policemen was manhandled. So I moved forward to ask what the problem was and they threw teargas right in front of me.
In a nutshell, the mobile policeman was manhandled, harassed and disarmed. My orderly was equally disarmed. So I tried to ask what was the problem, they were just busy throwing tear gas. But I thank God that they did not deter me.
The whole thing was just to stop me from organising or conducting my own local government congress.
But the beauty of it is that the world has seen that the state government lacks confidence of the people that is why there was that massive police or security buildup. If you are popular in politics, you don’t need any security agent to help you organize your own affair.
What would you say they wanted to achieve by incapacitating your security?
The state government has lost popularity and touch with the people so it is afraid of elections. What I simply asked was that let these congresses be conducted following our guidelines.
That is what I asked for. What do the guidelines say? They show how the ward congresses should hold; how the local government should go, and this is how that of the state should go. So why the massive buildup of security? If you had done the right thing, people will see it, people will be the judges too. I think the whole essence was aimed at either embarrassing me or intimidating me, but that is not possible because they cannot stop me from defending my right.
Possibly, too, may be they wanted me harmed, but God protected me and that is the most important thing; it is not the police around me that protect me, it is just a precaution.
What do the parallel congresses organised in Zamfara and some other states portend for the APC?
To me, after looking at the whole congresses, the way it started - you know what the party did and everything - to me there is massive conspiracy against the party and against the leader of the party that is the president of the country.
If you look at the first scenario, some people just came up with the idea of one-year extension for the members of the National Working Committee (NWC), the president was advised that that extension was illegal and it will portend serious problem for the success of the party. The president put his feet down and said we should go for elective congresses or consensus where possible.
The party came up with guidelines on how these congresses should be conducted, but the same party that produced the guidelines, was the first to break the rules.
In one of the clauses in the guidelines, they said forms should be filled and returned within 24 hours. But the NWC of the APC didn’t even meet the committees until Thursday evening.
The committees started going to their stations on Friday. They said, if you are desirous of contesting pay your monies into some accounts.
They gave us seven accounts and said “pay this amount, collect forms and return them, 24 hours before election”.
Two things; they didn’t give the committees the forms to go to the state with them. Secondly, there was no clear 24 hours to collect the form, fill it and return it. The whole thing, was a kind of sabotage. Something that will be rancorous, breed parallel congresses, and a set of executive will be established for each state. The whole thing comes to just one thing, sabotage.
Like in Zamfara now, we had parallel congresses - we now have two sets of executives, one by the state government and another by me. I have followed due process from beginning up till where we are now. But the state government didn’t because they have security apparatus at their disposal.
As far as I am concerned, there are some people within the NWC that are desirous of scuttling the processes thereby endangering the electoral success of the APC.
They may rule against me on the case I made to the appeal committee for instance, but one thing I'm sure of is that the court will rule in my favour.
You can take this scenario and put it in several others states. If the states are more than half of the total delegates that will vote in any convention, may be the presidential candidate will be determined, after the primary election and there are going to be pre-election cases and the courts will definitely do the needful looking at the massive evidence against everything.
The governors didn’t even comply with the provision of the guideline to pay monies into accounts, they were simply allocated forms. I paid, my people paid. I have my receipts and I have everything.
The net effect, the final result, to me, is that there are people out there who have long concluded that they cannot beat the president in normal elections so what they are looking for is technical knockout; to plan something that could be challenged in court, that will nullify any election.
Unless the party does what is right, unless the leaders at the top look at these things well; know what the people are up to, and who the people are, there is going to be a problem.
At the parallel congress you conducted was the representative of INEC on ground?
INEC is an umpire, they just look at everybody, and they have the guidelines. That is what INEC does. Who complied with the guideline, what did you do? There is also what they call ward and local government congress committee that was sent by the party. That committee was dead on arrival.
My candidates emerged unopposed because they were the only candidates that fully satisfied the provisions of the APC guidelines and that is the foundation. You cannot build on top of what you know will collapse.
These things are likely going to be challenged in court and the courts are going to rule in favour of those that followed due process.
  Man Arrested for Raping corper For Snubbing Love Advances
25-year-old Ogochukwu Namanene has been arrested by the Niger State Police Command, for raping a 22-year-old graduate and corps member serving at Janki Secondary school, Lapai.
The suspect from Lapai in Agaie Local Government Area of the state, who had been love advances to the victim before the incident, raped her while returning from Lagos to Lapai. He was however arrested by a team of policemen attached to the Agaie division of the state while trying to escape.
Namanene who claimed that he has “a soft spot” for the victim but did not know how to woo her, reportedly pretended to be a commercial motorcyclist, while taking the corps member to her lodge, dragged her into the bush, overpowered and sexually assaulted her.
“I was telling her to cooperate with me that I only wanted to express my affection for her but she refused. I beat her mercilessly until she became weak. After raping her, I rode my motorcycle away not knowing that the wrath of the law would catch up with me.”
Honestly, I love the corper but I don’t have the courage to express my affection for her, that was why I forcefully made love to her,” Namanene admitted.
Northern City News reported that the Police Public Relations Officer, Muhammad Abubakar,  who confirmed the arrest of the rapist, said the suspect had been charged to court.
This is coming few months after the Ogun State Police Command arrested a 29-year-old driving instructor, Festus Udo, for allegedly raping and strangling a female youth corps member serving in the state.
Udo, a resident of Abule Ayo area in Mawuko, Odeda Local Government Area of the state, allegedly raped and strangled the victim whose name was given as Modupe Taiyese, before dumping her body in a forest in the area.
The Commissioner of Police in the state, Ahmed Ilyasu who led journalists to the scene of the crime on Wednesday, December 13, 2017, said the suspect had already confessed to the crime while the decomposed body of the 23-year-old victim had been recovered.
  Killings: We Don’t Have Enough Soldiers To Guard Every M’belt Village, Says FG
User Avatar Forum: Retired Forums. Please Make Your Post Within The 3 Forums In General Discussion
Posted by: Edoman - 05-18-2018, 10:30 AM - No Replies
The Federal Government has said the country’s military manpower is not enough to secure every village in the Middle Belt region in order to stop incessant killings occasioned by herders and farmers’ clashes in the area.
It has, however, mandated the National Emergency Management Authority to rebuild villages in Benue State and ensure they are not far from one another.
The Federal Government also said that the farmers and herdsmen’s clashes which had led to loss of lives and property were caused by the influx of weapons into the country through the trans-Saharan routes.
The Minister of Defence, Mansur Dan-Ali, the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Audu Ogbeh, and the Minister of Interior, Abdulrahman Dambazau, stated this on Thursday at a town hall meeting in Abuja on the farmers and herders’ clashes.
The meeting was convened by the Ministry of Information and Culture.
Ogbeh said as was the case in Argentina, Pakistan and Namibia, there were ongoing plans to generate electricity from cow dung when the government finally put the reserves in operation.
Speaking on the N10bn to be given to troubled states, the agriculture minister said the money would be used “to rebuild the devastated villages as all the Internally Displaced Persons in Benue State wanted to return home as quickly as possible.”
Ogbeh added, “I was with the Vice-President, Yemi Osinbajo, in Benue State on Tuesday and the money announced is not only for Benue, which is apparently facing this crisis.
“The crisis in the IDP camps is very severe. Lots of women and children want to return home, but there are no homes. So, the idea is to rehabilitate the homes as quickly as possible to let them return home.
“Two, NEMA is redesigning the settlements in the villages to bring more communities together so that people don’t live too far apart. Otherwise, we don’t have enough security to guard every settlement. Unless you have units of 10 or 11 soldiers to guard each village, there is no way that the current security network can cover the needs of villagers who may be attacked in the afternoon or night. That was one of the things we studied on Tuesday.
“Three, we have to do everything we can to end these pastoral movements, slowly and in the large scale later. We have 415 reserves. Some have been encroached upon while others are still there. We have to provide water and grass, and protect the herdsmen from cattle rustlers, who are also Fulani.
“The Minister of Interior and I are working on agro-rangers being trained by the military to guard these places so that there can be peace within those communities.
“We can also then do what has been done in Pakistan, Argentina, and even Namibia here, by using the cow dung to generate electricity. These things we have designed and we are raising funds to start them.”
The convener of the meeting and the Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, said the clashes between farmers and herdsmen were connected with “demographic, environmental, social and economic dynamics and it will be a distortion to attribute the clashes to ethnic and religious reasons.”
Mohammed said, “In 1963, Nigeria’s population was 52 million. Today, it is about 200 million, yet the land space has remained the same. Against this background, the contest for land and other natural resources is bound to be keener, and the friction, more.
“There are various measures that have been taken by the Federal Government to stop these senseless killings and curtail the criminality that has fuelled the clashes. The Nigerian Air Force has deployed its Special Forces to the newly-established 23 Quick Response Wing in Nguroje, Taraba State. The NAF also has a 1,000-man Special Intervention Force deployed in Makurdi to degrade bandits and criminals in Benue and Nasarawa states.
“In the last two weeks, the Police Intelligence Response Team and the Police Special Forces, whose work cut across Benue, Nasarawa and Taraba states, arrested 11 suspects and recovered 10 AK-47 rifles and other firearms from them. These are just some of the arrests made by the security forces in recent days.”
The Defence Minister, Dan-Ali, said President Muhammadu Buhari’s reference to the herdsmen being trained in Libya was in relation to the infiltration of weapons into the country through the trans-Saharan routes.
He said, “There are no foreigners such as Chadians and Libyans coming into Nigeria. What we mean is that the crises in Libya motivated the coming in of arms and ammunition into the country through the trans-Saharan routes. This is the situation. To handle this, the Federal Government has set up a committee whereby a commission to tackle small arms is being looked into.”
Also, the Minister of Interior, Dambazau, said, “As a result of the crises in Libya, quite a huge number of weapons have found themselves into the country. It is not just in Nigeria, but the whole of the sub-region of the Economic Community of West African States.
“We have organised, in conjunction with ECOWAS, a conference on the movement of people and services. The whole idea is to control the movement of weapons. There is also the concept of biometrics to screen those people who enter Nigeria.”
Some of the delegates at the meeting, including the Christian Association of Nigeria and the Miyetti Allah Breeders Association, advised the government to work on establishing ranches, noting that that was the 21st century practice, and would guarantee lasting peace and security.
Buhari meets Army Chief on security
President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday met behind closed doors with the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Tukur Buratai, at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
The meeting centred on efforts being made by the Army authorities to restore peace to troubled parts of the country.
Buhari disclosed this in a message he posted on his verified Twitter handle, @MBuhari, after the meeting.
The President said his administration’s commitment to peace and security of the country was total.
Buhari wrote, “I received a briefing from the Chief of Army Staff this (Thursday) afternoon.
“The Army recently established a new battalion in Birnin-Gwari, Kaduna State, in addition to other deployments in troubled parts of the country.
“Our commitment to the peace and security of Nigeria is total.”
After the meeting, Buratai told State House correspondents that the Nigerian Army would collaborate with other security agencies to dislodge criminals who operate in the Birnin Gwari axis along the Abuja-Kaduna Expressway.
He said concern over unabated killings of citizens was what informed the setting up of an army battalion in the area.
He said, “We will continue to cooperate with other security agencies that are charged with the responsibility of securing our country and the deployment of a unit there is quite strategic. It is in line with the Nigerian Army order of battle that was approved in 2016.
“We have to implement all of them to achieve the strategic objective of the government. This is essentially why we have to put the battalion there and to work with other security agencies.”
Buratai assured stakeholders that the ongoing Operation Last Hold by troops would further consolidate the army’s achievements against insurgents in the North-East.
He said the operation would culminate in the return of the Internally Displaced Persons to their communities.
“Rest assured that Operation Last Hold will further consolidate our achievements so far but we hope the IDPs will go back to their communities and pick up their lives again.
“I think that is the aim of this our Operation Last Hold. It is a consolidation of the overall successes that we have achieved in the North-East,” Buratai said.
Bandits, herdsmen kill 13 in Kaduna, Benue
But in spite of this assurance, 10 persons were reportedly killed by suspected bandits at Birnin-Gwari Local Government Area of Kaduna State on Wednesday evening while three others, the police said, were killed on Thursday morning by Fulani herdsmen in communities in Logo Local Government Area of Benue State.
Scores were also said to be seriously injured in the Kaduna attack that took place in four villages in Gwari council.
But the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Mukhtar Aliyu, said only seven persons were killed while five were injured in the attack, which he said, occurred on Wednesday night.
He said the bandits invaded Mashigi, Dakwaro, Sabongida villages on Wednesday night, shooting at anyone in sight and burning down houses and farmlands in the affected villages.
Aliyu, an Assistant Superintendent of Police, said the Kaduna State Commissioner of Police, Austin Iwar, had ordered the immediate deployment of mobile police in the communities.
The villages raided by the bandits included Mashigi, Dakwaro, Sabongida and one other village close to Dakwaro.
The attack, according to another source, lasted for more than three and half hours.
He added that the bandits, who rode on motorbikes, killed people, burnt houses and foodstuffs in the villages they attacked.
The source added that the 10 bodies of those killed had been recovered from the bush while the volunteers and hunters as well as security operatives were still combing the bush for the missing persons.
A member of the Birnin-Gwari Vanguard for Security and Good Governance identified as Mallam Umar, said so far 10 bodies of the people killed had been recovered, while many were unaccounted for.
In the Benue attack, three persons were reportedly killed on Thursday morning by Fulani herdsmen in communities in Logo Local Government Area of the state.
According to a community leader in the council, who is also former media aide to erstwhile governor of the state, Joseph Anawah, the attackers invaded Tse Mue, Torka, Mbagba, Toryem and Ifer all in Ukem Beragya and Gaambe_ Tiev communities in Logo LGA around 6am.
The Commissioner of Police Benue State Command, Fatai Owoseni, confirmed the attack, saying that three people lost their lives during the attack.
“While l was at the security council meeting today (Thursday), l received a report that suspected herdsmen attacked people in Timbe village along the Anyiin – Wukari Federal Highway, killing three people. But men of the Rapid Response Squad have been drafted to the areas to forestall further attack,” Owoseni said.
Also, Governor Samuel Ortom confirmed the attack during a courtesy call on him by the Minister of State II for Works, Transport and Energy, Suleiman Zarma.
The governor said that “there was killing this morning in Logo.”
RHAPSODY OF REALITIES DAILY DEVOTIONAL
*INVEST IN YOUR PERSONALITY .*
Friday, May 18th .
Pastor Chris
_*A wise man is strong; yea, a man of knowledge increaseth strength (Proverbs 24:5).*_
There’re some people who feel they’re disadvantaged, perhaps, because they don’t have an academic degree; they didn’t quite go to school or maybe they dropped out at some point. If this describes you or someone you know, it’s not the end of the world.
Even if you lost an opportunity to go to school, you haven’t lost an opportunity for education. Just begin by investing in your personality. Listen to the right things; read the right books; open your mind and thinking to the right knowledge and information. What defines your life isn’t so much your academic qualification as it is the quality of your personality; the investments and deposits you’ve made in your mind and in your heart.
Daisy Osborne once said, “Work on being, not on having, for with what you are, you will have.” How true! Put differently, that simply means, “Don’t work on having anything; instead, work on being something.” By investing in yourself, you won’t just walk through this world unnoticed, but would have actually impacted the world with the investment of your personality. That’s success.
Polish yourself. Improve your value. The world is changing fast; you must therefore inundate your mind with the right information that’ll put you over and give you the advantage. When you study the Bible carefully, you’ll discover that knowledge is power. Our opening verse says, _*“…a man of knowledge increaseth strength.”*_ The same word translated “strength” is also translated “ability” in some other places. Thus, with knowledge, you multiply your abilities; you see your endless potentials.
It doesn’t matter where you’ve been or how you’ve lived before you were born again. It might have been that in your biological family, no one has ever been successful, but with you, that jinx is broken. Now that you’re born again, all things are possible to you, the believing one (Mark 9:23). Blessed be God! The difference is knowledge. With the knowledge of the Word, and right investment in your personality, the Lord can do anything with your life.
*CONFESSION*
*I have extraordinary amplitude of comprehension, and every information for a glorious life is accessible to me, because God has given me wisdom and knowledge and joy. I’m a success, and a wonder to my world! My abilities are limitless; I’m positioned by the Spirit for success, greatness, and glory. Hallelujah!*
*FURTHER STUDY:* *||* *1 Samuel 2:8* He raiseth up the poor out of the dust, [and] lifteth up the beggar from the dunghill, to set [them] among princes, and to make them inherit the throne of glory: for the pillars of the earth [are] the LORD'S, and he hath set the world upon them. *||*
54yrs Old Pastor Arrested For Impregnating 20 Of His Church Members
[Image: pastor-1.jpg]
The more you take to your heels when you hear someone calling himself pastor, the better for you. Pastors this days have proven to be people that needs to be feared and abhorred.
A 53-year-old pastor who reportedly impregnated 20 members of congregation claims the Holy Spirit ordered him to have sex with them. The Nigerian police have now arrested Timothy Ngwu for abusing the young girls and women at Vineyard Ministry of the Holy Trinity.
Ngwu’s abusive behaviour was finally reported to the police by his estranged wife Veronica who grew tired of his adulterous behaviour and reportedly impregnated her young neice.
A spokesperson for the Enugu State Police command told Naij.com he claims to be obeying the ‘spiritual’ urge to carry out the will of God, ‘irrespective of whether the woman is married or not.’
Ebere Amaraizu added:
‘When the woman is delivered of the baby, the child remains in the ministry with the mother for life.’
Ngwu also said he has 13 children with five different wives and the mistresses God’s ‘prophetic’ will told him to acquire. He also claims he never had sex with any married woman unless their husbands consented to the Holy Spirit’s request.
Calista Omeje and Assumpta Odo both left their husbands to live with the pastor based on these holy commands. Mother-of-eight Odo said Ngwu impregnated both her and her daughter, whose age is not known.
And Calista – who has 10 children with her husband – said the pastor impregnated her but the baby died. She also revealed that she ‘gave’ her daughter to him.
The pastor’s brother – who did not want to be identified – said, he had warned both Ngwu and his family about the self-proclaimed clergyman’s behaviour for a long time but they refused to listen. He claims the arrest is ‘God’s wrath falling on his brother’, adding: ‘God’s anger has befallen my brother, we have severally appealed to him to stop what he was doing but he refused.
‘He has colonised our compound, bearing children with recklessness. He accused us of being jealous of him because he is doing the will of God.’ Pointing at the church’s compound, he continued: ‘Look at these buildings here… He has converted all of them to himself in the name of vineyard.
‘He sacked his betrothed wife who has three children for him and embarked on impregnating married women and young girls. Look at the whole compound littered with children of different sex and age.’
‘All members of the vineyard are fools, how can a woman abandon her husband for another man in the name of worshiping God and practice adultery? I cannot get myself involved in this matter.
‘Let them sort themselves out with the police but I want the ministry to be shut down completely,’ he added.’
  Neurologist: IGP Idris Struggled To Read Speech Due To ‘Brain Block’
User Avatar Forum: Other Stories
Posted by: Edoman - 05-17-2018, 10:00 PM - No Replies
A neurologist with the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University (ATBU), Dr. Nura Alkali, has opined that the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris’ struggle during his ‘infamous’ speech at an event in Kano could be as a result of ‘brain block’.
We recall that in the footage trending online, the IGP, who visited Kano on Monday to commission the Police Technical Intelligence unit in the state, struggled consistently to pronounce some of the words in his text.
The clip stirred up reactions online as some
Nigerians described the development as ’embarrassing and a shame to the Nigeria Police Force.
However, reacting Dr. Nura Alkali, in a Facebook post explained that contrary to opinions that the IG may be ‘dyslexic, the police boss might be suffering from Severe emotional stress, a non-motor seizure, or transient global amnesia.
He wrote, “Having watched the IGP Idris speech video, I can only conclude that he had a brain block. What caused it I cannot tell, since I lack his medical history. But I suspect one of three possibilities: Severe emotional stress, a non-motor seizure, or transient global amnesia.
“He is certainly not dyslexic, after all, he has read public speeches flawlessly in the past. And from available evidence, the video was not doctored. I advise the IGP to see an experienced neurologist or psychiatrist, who should also watch the video.”
“Some of us find it hard to believe that a medical condition can make a speech sound like a “broken record”. Well, one of such causes is transient global amnesia (TGA)
“The main sign of TGA is being temporarily unable to form new memories. This is called prominent anterograde amnesia. During the episode of TGA, the person will seem disoriented in time and often ask questions about the date or their environment over and over again. This may be described as the person sounding like a “broken record.”
Meanwhile, the force is yet to issue a statement regarding the controversial video.
When the Press contacted the Force Public Relations Officer, Moshood Jimoh, on the ‘authenticity of the video, he simply said, “Yes we have seen it , but you can call back later.”
Quote:By Owen Akenzua 
A 21-year-old apprentice mechanic in Asaba, Delta state, on Wednesday night, slumped and died after a marathon sexual intercourse with a food vendor.
It was gathered that the mechanic,a native of Nkpor in Anambra state, was expelled in form three in one the secondary schools in the area for his alleged involvement in cult-related activities.
Investigations revealed that the deceased, identified as Ifeanyi Okonkwo, allegedly known for smoking Indian hemp, on the fateful night, wooed the food vendor, 18-year-old SS1 student of a secondary school (name withheld) for sex after reportedly “spoiling” her with N10,000, penultimate Wednesday, into the workshop during night fall.
Sources said Ifeanyi, have been involved in litany of scandals in his place of work as apprentice including alleged randy activities, especially with young girls.
Insiders stated that this had also earned him three suspensions from his master, who had severely been embarrassed by the hue and cry of parents of his female lovers.
Speaking to DAILY POST, the victim’s boss, Emeka Iheanchor said, “We had closed from the workshop when somebody called me at about 9:30pm that tragedy broke out in my workshop that Ifeanyi slumped dead after a sexual intercourse with a food vendor.
I was shocked, and I immediately moved to the workshop, and on getting there, I saw Ifeanyi lying dead on the ground, and some people gathered at the scene, including policemen.
We later took the corpse to FMC mortuary where he is currently deposited”.
Policemen, who spoke to DAILY POST at the scene on condition of anonymity, said “We met the boy lying dead on the ground with his mouth foaming, we arrested the girl on the spot, and took the corpse to FMC mortuary for further investigation, we are still investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of the mechanic”.
A colleague of the late Ifeanyi, (name withheld), told DAILY POST that, “Ifeanyi told me that he was going to use the girl, he gave her N10,000 in my presence, the girl used to sell food for us in wheel Barrow, Ifeanyi too like women (sic).
I was peeping them that night when he was making love to the girl on the long motor seat, the girl was screaming, I was smoking, we used to smoke together during night fall in our workshop, suddenly I did not hear noise again, I knew something has happened, I ran away from the scene”.
The mechanic workshop located around Nitel along Abraka-Asaba road, investigation revealed, is beehive of Indian hemp smoking at night, and in most times, the mechanics-turned-hoodlums attack unsuspecting passersby and dispossessed them of their handsets, including cash.
Meanwhile, pedestrians on Atuma Iga road, Oshimili North local Government Area of Delta state have appealed to the state Police command, and other security agencies to come to their aid following the continued attack on them by the rampaging hoodlums in the area.
  Abuja Court Adjourns Melaye’s Case Indefinitely On Health Grounds
User Avatar Forum: Retired Forums. Please Make Your Post Within The 3 Forums In General Discussion
Posted by: Edoman - 05-17-2018, 09:48 PM - No Replies
Justice Olasumbo Goodluck of FCT High Court, Maitama, on Thursday adjourned indefinitely the trial of Senator Dino Melaye, being tried for allegedly giving false information.
Melaye, representing Kogi West, was dragged to court on two counts bordering on giving false information, offences he denied committing.
The News Agency of Nigeria recalls that the judge, on Wednesday, adjourned until May 17, and ordered the defence counsel to take appropriate steps to explain the absence of the defendant in court.
Goodluc, in her ruling on Thursday on a motion for adjournment by Mr. Ricky Tarfa (SAN), Melaye’s counsel, held that the prosecution did not doubt the health problem of the senator.
“From the gamut of the entire facts placed before the court, the prosecution did not controvert the fact that the defendant was in the National Hospital’s Intensive Care Unit.’’
The judge, therefore, adjourned the case sine die (indefinitely) pending the recovery of the senator from his illness.
Earlier, Tarfa, in an application to justify the senator’s absence, informed the court that his client was still lying critically ill at the National Hospital.
He tendered a medical report, signed by one Dr. Olaniran, Director of Medical Services at the National Hospital, Abuja, which confirmed that the senator was being managed at the ICU.
Tarfa urged the judge to consider the ill health of the lawmaker as a special circumstance that warranted his absence from trial.
He urged the court to adjourn the trial pending the time his client would recuperate from the sickness, and be able to stand before the court to answer the two counts against him.
Responding, the prosecuting counsel, Mr. Magaji Labaran, urged the court to discountenance the exhibits attached to the defendant’s affidavit, as they did not meet the requirements of the Law.
He added that the elements in the medical reports did not indicate that the defendant cannot come to court to stand trial.
Quote:Posted By: Yusuf Alli,
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has detained Senator Albert Bassey (Akwa Ibom North East) in connection with a N30billion vote for direct labour projects during the tenure of ex-Governor Godswill Akpabio.
Senator Bassey, who was Commissioner for Finance during the Akpabio administration, had allegedly avoiding the EFCC invitation to explain the matter.
A top source in the EFCC, who spoke in confidence, said: “We have been interrogating Senator Bassey in the last 12 hours on the allegations against him.
“One of the allegations against him is how N303million worth of vehicles were given out as gifts to Bassey by the owner of Atlantic Energy Drilling Concept Limited between July 30, 2010 and January 8, 2014.”
A fact-sheet from the EFCC said: “The Senator as Commissioner for Finance was also the Chairman of the Inter-Ministerial Direct Labour Coordinating Committee.
“About N30billion hit the account managed by the committee during the period. The fund came from Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) and statutory allocations.
“Following allegation of massive wiring of the cash into private accounts, the EFCC decided to invite Sen. Bassey to give account. This agency is looking into allegation of money laundering against Bassey.
“Detectives have uncovered how contracts worth N618million to two companies namely Bay Atlantic Energy Services Limited and Sahel Energy/Power between 2010 and 2014 were awarded. The companies belong to the owner of Atlantic Energy Drilling Concept Limited Chief Jide Omokore.
“At about the same period, vehicles worth N303million were given out as gifts to Bassey by the owner of Atlantic Energy Drilling Concept Limited especially between July 30, 2010 and January 8, 2014.
“From investigation by detectives, there is a correlation between the transactions and the gifts. The Akwa Ibom State Government has refused to make relevant documents available to the EFCC.”
  My Lover — Not My Husband — Impregnated Me, Wife Confesses
User Avatar Forum: Other Stories
Posted by: Edoman - 05-17-2018, 07:48 PM - No Replies
A bread seller, Marian Folarin, on Thursday told a Mapo Customary Court in Ibadan that it was her lover that impregnated her and not her husband, Kayode Folarin.
The mother-of-four in her original petition to the court accused her husband of “gross irresponsibility and incompetence” in managing the home.
She said, “My lord, hunger, thirst and wretchedness had been the order of the day with me in
Kayode’s house in the last 20 years I lived with him.
“Kayode and I earlier had a mutual agreement not to have more than four children and he did everything not to violate that agreement.
“But he had been unable to cater for me and the children, beside the constant beating which I receive
from him.
“I stopped Kayode from having sex with me since 2007 so as not to get pregnant. However, as I speak now, I have been impregnated by my lover, Ololade, a mechanic at Gate area of Ibadan.
“I pray this honourable court to order Kayode to stop molesting and harassing me in the neighbourhood because I am no longer interested in the marriage; I have found new love.”
The respondent denied all allegations preferred against him, saying he still loves his wife.
He said, “Marian is a pathological liar because I always give her my love and care and people can bear me witness.
“It is only unfortunate that she is being misguided somewhere. My lord, I want to confirm to you that
I impregnated Marian and not any mechanic.
“Marian was three months pregnant before she left my house.”
Marian’s 14-year-old daughter, in her testimony, told the court that her father was a caring man who did everything possible to satisfy her mother.
She said, “I think my mother is just ungrateful.”
The President of the court, Ademola Odunade, after deliberating on the matter, ordered a court official to take Marian for pregnancy test to ascertain the age of the pregnancy.
He also ordered that her mechanic lover should appear in court, and adjourned the case until May 23 for hearing.
President Muhammadu Buhari and a former governor of Borno State, Ali-Modu Sherrif, are currently meeting at the Aso Rock Presidential Villa in Abuja.
They are meeting behind the closed doors of the president's office.
Sherrif, a former caretaker committee chairman of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, arrived the Villa at about 2:40pm.
This is the first time Sherrif will be meeting with Buhari since the former was ousted as PDP's caretaker committee's chairman.
He had met with Vice President Yemi Osinbajo at the Presidential Villa on September 22, 2017.
The national leadership of the ruling All Progressives Congress had last month asked Sheriff, who had interest joining the party in Abuja, to do so at his ward.
Quote:The Presidency has reacted to the viral video of the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, struggling to read a speech at an event in Kano.
In the footage, IGP Idris, who was in Kano on Monday to commission the Police Technical Intelligence unit in the state, stammered consistently as he struggled to pronounce words.
After failed attempt to get his speech right, he apologised to his audience.
However, the clip stirred up reactions online as some Nigerians described the development as ’embarrassing and a shame to Nigerian Police Force’.
Reacting, the Senior Special Adviser to the President on Diaspora & Foreign Affairs, Abike Dabiri-Erewa, said the video was doctored by mischievous persons.
On her Twitter page, she wrote, “This video is definitely doctored.
“The error was made once , then special effects used to repeat it. What I don’t understand is why anyone would believe. Well, it’s a Social Media world.”
  AIG VS SARAKI: Senate Raises 10-man Panel To Meet Buhari (names)
User Avatar Forum: Retired Forums. Please Make Your Post Within The 3 Forums In General Discussion
Posted by: Edoman - 05-17-2018, 03:33 PM - No Replies
Quote:Posted By: Onyedi Ojiabor, Abuja
The Senate yesterday raised a 10-man panel to meet with President Muhammadu Buhari over the allegation that Inspector General of Police Ibrahim Idris is plotting to implicate Senate President Bukola Saraki.
Saraki made the allegation during the Semate Plenary yesterday following which he stepped down for his deputy, Ike Ekweremadu, to preside over the discussion on the matter.
Ekweremadu noted that what Saraki said was some of the things wrong with the country’s democracy which should be halted.
He insisted that the Senate must work to protect the rights of every Nigerian, no matter the situation.
Ekweremadu said there should be a 10-man committee to engage President Muhammadu Buhari as soon as possible.
He said the committee should report back to the Senate within one week.
Ekweremadu named Saraki as the leader of the delagation. An objection to his leadership of the panel since he is the man at the centre of the matter was rejected.
Other members of the committee are: Senate Leader Ahmed Lawan, Chief Whip Olusola Adeyeye, Minority Leader Godswill Akpabio, Senators Abdullahi Adamu, Sam Egwu, Aliyu Wamakko, Oluremi Tinubu and Fatima Rasaki.
Saraki noted that another leg of the plot was to also frame up Kwara State Governor Abdulfatai Ahmed.
The lawmakers described what they were told as “a dangerous development” that must be halted in the interest of democracy.
Before the announcement, the upper chamber held over 45 minutes closed session which Saraki said was meant to deliberate on the running of the Senate and the National Assembly in general.
Akpabio said the Senate was still in the dark about what actually happened.
Senator Gbenga Ashafa said Saraki is not only the Senate President but chairman of the National Assembly.
The Lagos East lawmaker suggested that a joint committee of the Senate and the House of Representatives be constituted to look into the matter.
Senator Philip Aduda (FCT) described the information as dangerous for the country’s democracy and also proposed an ad-hoc committee to look into the matter.
Adeyeye suggested a committee of seven from the Senate and six from the House of Representatives to consider the information.
Senator Samuel Anyanwu said the Senate should take steps to make Nigerians appreciate the persecution members of the National Assembly were going through.
Anyanwu said that the matter should be taken seriously, especially as it was a calculated attempt to ridicule the National Assembly and its members.
Senator Kabiru Marafa, who differed, suggested that a high powered committee should meet President Muhammadu Buhari on the matter.
Marafa said if a committee was constituted to probe the matter, the IGP might not be disposed to appearing before it.
Senator Emmanuel Bwacha described the matter as a dangerous development.
Bwacha said that President Buhari should be told in clear terms that democracy was in danger.
He described how his security detail was withdrawn on his way to Jos, the Plateau State capital.
Senator Isa Misau said that he had the inclination that other security organisations were behind the onslaught against the National Assembly while the police were being used as the face.
Misau said that what was happening was all geared towards 2019 general elections.
He said: “It is either we have this democracy or we change it to another thing. We must know where we are. We cannot continue to work under intimidation and harassment. The whole thing is planned and it is obvious that people have been marked.”
Senator Abdullahi Adamu described the report by Saraki as weighty.
He noted that though senators received the information with shock, they should apply maturity by setting up an ad-hoc committee to consider the information and advise the Senate.
Senate Leader Ahmed Lawan noted: “This is one of the sad moments of the Senate.”
Lawan noted that senators would have just walked into the chamber to pass the 2018 budget already listed in the Order Paper.
He said that it was pointless to continue to beat a dead horse by constituting another committee that the IGP might not honour.
Lawan said that some people might be taking advantage of situations without the President being aware of what was going on.
He agreed that a committee should be constituted to engage President Buhari to intimate him about the development and other issues the Senate might decide to bring to the attention of the President.
  Senate Passes Historic Business Reform Bill
User Avatar Forum: Retired Forums. Please Make Your Post Within The 3 Forums In General Discussion
Posted by: Edoman - 05-17-2018, 03:28 PM - No Replies
The 8th Senate led by Dr Abubakar Bukola Saraki on Tuesday passed a Bill to repeal and re-enact Companies and Allied Matters Act. The Bill comes 28 years after the passage of the original Companies and Allied Matters Act and will make Nigeria the best country in Africa to do business.
Ease of doing business plays a crucial role in the economic growth of any country. The processes, rules, and regulations set up by the government or government agencies can either help promote a business-friendly environment or hold businesses back from their entrepreneurial ambitions.
Nigeria ranks 145 out of 190 countries in the World Bank’s Ease of Doing Business ranking, which rates countries for the ease at which one can open, conduct and close down businesses.
This landmark reform by the Senate will provide significant benefits to companies by reducing red tape and making it easier to comply with regulatory obligations. Most of the changes are aimed at encouraging investments that will allow small businesses and startups thrive, lower costs and ease regulatory burdens.
Changes included in the Bill will mean that many of the over 75,000 private companies limited by shares which are established in Nigeria every year will be able to incorporate more easily, resulting in savings in professional fees and substantial improvements to the ease of doing business in Nigeria by comparison to our competitors.
The Bill will to spur more young people to start new enterprises. Among the changes which benefit those aspiring to start a company is the ability of a single person to incorporate a company. Allowing new young and innovative start-ups the opportunity to operate as separate legal entities without the risk of loss of their personal assets.
In addition, small companies will no longer be required to have a company secretary or hold Annual General Meetings. The requirement for statutory declaration of compliance has also been removed.
Minimum share capital required for companies to be registered has been reduced to encourage more investments in small companies and individuals will no longer need a lawyer to register a company. To further facilitate registration and compliance the E-Registration and filing system has been enhanced.
The introduction of LLP as a new business vehicle will act as a step towards converting the informal, undocumented sector into a formal and regulated regime. The incorporation process is less stringent and formal as compared to a limited liability company.
New regulations have been introduced to revive ailing companies. A company can now reach compromises on its debts and for businesses which are nearly insolvent a new process for administration has been introduced which will enable such businesses to keep running under the supervision of an Administrator for a period of 12 months.
  Man Kills Neighbour In Ogun, Joins Sympathizers To Search For Corpse (Graphic Pi
Two friends hacked their neighbor to death and stole in motorcycle. The assailants packed the lifeless body in a sack, threw it into a bush and pretended as genuine sympathizers, by joining other neighbors in a search for the victim. The ugly incident that took place in Imodi-Imosan in Ijebu-ode was promptly reported at the Police Divisional Headquarters in Obalende by the deceased's elder brother, Moses Utuede, leading to a discreet investigation by crack detectives.
Investigation later revealed that the deceased was last seen with one Patrick Udom, 35, who lived in the same community with him and, as such, became police first suspect.
On his arrest and questioning, Patrick owned up to have committed the dastardly act and named one James Roland, 25, as his accomplice.
The victim, Happy Patrick, left home at about 7:00am yesterday, May 15, 2018, as a commercial motorcyclist and never returned.
According to a press statement by the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), ASP Abimbola Oyeyemi, made available to Crimepuzzle, "On the strength of the report, the DPO, SP Jaiye Richard, detailed detectives to embark on full scale investigation, in order to unravel the mystery behind the sudden disappearance of the victim.
"Investigation later revealed that the victim was last seen with Patrick Udom and he was promptly arrested. After a thorough investigation, the said Patrick Udom confessed to have killed the victim, ably assisted by Roland James. He stated further that the victim who lived in the same community of Imodi-Imosan with them was killed because they wanted to steal his motorcycle which they actually did after killing their victim" the PPRO stated.
The image maker added that two cutlasses, with which they allegedly hacked the victim to death, were recovered from the suspects. Also found in their possession were a hammer and a digger.
Oyeyemi also said that the state Commissioner of Police, CP Ahmed Iliysasu, had ordered that the case be transferred to the Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID) for discrete investigation and prosecution of the suspects...
  2023 Presidency: APC Dangles Carrot At Ekweremadu
User Avatar Forum: Retired Forums. Please Make Your Post Within The 3 Forums In General Discussion
Posted by: Edoman - 05-17-2018, 12:17 PM - No Replies
By Henry Umoru
ABUJA—AHEAD of 2019 presidential and general elections, the All Progressives Congress, APC, is in search of very strong and high-profiled personalities in the opposition political party, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, to join its folds with the aim at ensuring that it wins in the six geo- political zones of the country.
The latest of such personalities being sought after by the APC is the Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, PDP, Enugu West, who has been in the Senate since May 2003.
APC is wooing him to dump his party, the PDP, with the assurance that he would be given the presidential ticket for 2023 when the position would then be zoned to the South East at the expiration of the tenure of President Muhammadu Buhari who is re-contesting in 2019.
According to the APC, with Ekweremadu in APC and becoming the presidential candidate in 2023 from the South East, there would then be the much desired stability in the country.
Speaking yesterday at plenary while eulogizing the Deputy Senate President at 56, Senate Majority leader, Ahmad Lawan, APC, Yobe North who described Ekweremadu as an asset in Nigeria at large and the South East in particular, however pleaded with him to see through the misty, woolly environment and take what he termed, the right decision, adding that he must not stay to rust and waste away in the PDP.
Senator Lawan who noted that he was speaking on behalf of others said, “On behalf of myself, even though without consulting our colleagues here, I am sure all the senators here are with me on this, we pray for many more terms and returns of this day and of course, I will use this opportunity to urge Senator Ike Ekweremadu to see through the mist; this woolly environment and take the right decision.
“You are an asset; don’t stay and rust away or waste away. I am inviting you to consider joining the numerous leaders and elders of the south east who understood that Nigeria needs the commitment of people like you.
“Nigeria needs the unity of everybody to make it better for the masses of this country; Nigeria needs stability and I want to say clearly that you are going to fit in perfectly well. 2023 is here (for you) for the taking.”
Earlier, while congratulating the Deputy Senate President, Ekweremadu who marked his 56the birthday last Saturday, Lawan said, “I congratulate the Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Ike Ekweremadu,my neighbour and my boss on his 56th birthday. I want to say that this is a congratulation to commitment, dedication and devotion. Mr. President, our brother here, as far as I can remember, is the longest serving presiding officer in the National Assembly.
“Senator Ike Ekweremadu has been a very loyal and committed deputy president of the senate. First to the Senate President then, Senator David Mark, he excelled in filling the gaps. Whenever there was need for him to come in and preside, all of us in the sixth and seventh senate and in fact, in this current senate, we had to look for our helmets because definitely, skills and speed will come into play.
“We members of the National Assembly, the parliamentarians are the ones to make the parliament or the legislature worthy of its name and be respected. We can do that through committing ourselves to our work and we have a very good example in the deputy president of the senate who has done that for so many years.”
  Man Loses Car, Almost Jailed After Helping Lady Carrying A Crying Baby In Abuja
User Avatar Forum: Other Stories
Posted by: Edoman - 05-17-2018, 12:16 PM - No Replies
A Nigerian man on Twitter @NaijaClassCapt has taken to the micro-blogging platform to narrate how, his colleague, a "Good Samaritan" loses his car and almost jailed after stopping to help a lady carrying a crying baby in Abuja.
Read his tweets below;
"My colleague's car was snatched at gunpoint. Down the street from his office. It was a setup. He was just driving home from work when a woman carrying a crying baby flagged him down-- beside an obviously faulty car whose bonnet was open. He stopped to check.
It was a grave mistake. It was like in the movies-- everything happened in a flash, too unreal to be true. Three men armed to the teeth instantly bundled him into his own car and drove off. This happened in Asokoro, Abuja.
They drove towards Gwagwalada, got to a point and stopped. They weren't sure whether to kill him or let him go. One of them knew for sure that since it was a new car, it must have a tracker and killing my colleague would be a surer way to avoid jail.
They robbed another car, and 'accidentally' dropped off my colleague's ID card in that car. They continued towards Kabba. At around 1:00 AM, they stripped him of every clothing he had on, and told him they know he would track the car. But that if they ever get caught, they ... would track him, kill every member of his family and then finally kill him. They told him to forget about the car--- he shouldn't bother looking for it.
No car stopped for him. No sane driver would stop for a completely Unclad man in the middle of bushy nowhere at 1:00 AM. In the morning he saw people going to farm and explained to them. Soon, he had enough clothes and money with which to go back to Abuja.
He had suffered some form of shock and was now showing signs of PTSD-- he had been beaten and forced to endure the inhumanity of traveling in the truck of a sedan along a very bumpy road.
The moment he came back to Abuja, he was admitted. On the second day, before we could find out what transpired, policemen investigating the second robbery, came to arrest him in the hospital.
It took connections and 'leg' to stop him from ending up in Kuje Prisons.
Today, my colleague is one of the most heartless people i know. He would slash your throat if he had to.
Life."
