RHAPSODY OF REALITIES

TUESDAY, 24TH DECEMBER.

DISCOVER CHRIST IN YOU

To whom God would make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles; which is Christ in you, the hope of glory (Colossians 1:27).

There’re too many of God’s children who are still looking up to God for one blessing or the other. They’re looking up to God to heal them, to touch them, to provide for them, to answer their prayers. But the truth is, there’s no other blessing that’ll come to you from heaven until the second coming of the Lord Himself.

There’s no prayer that the answer will come to you from heaven. Everything you’d ever need in life is in Christ, and Christ is in you, and to have Christ is to have everything. Colossians 1:27 says, “...Christ in you, the hope of glory.” Have you been desiring or expecting to see the glory of God revealed in your finances, your health, business, or family? The glory has already been revealed. That’s the meaning and reason for Christmas; that’s why we’re so full of joy that Christ was born into this world, to live in our hearts.

Christ in you is your assurance of divine health, prosperity, success, victory and dominion. Hallelujah! What you need is to discover Christ in you. If Christ isn’t in a man, then his sufferings are justified; his pains are “excusable.” But not so with you; you’ve been brought into the “glory life.”

This Christ-consciousness will inspire an extraordinary boldness in your life. It’ll cause you to live every day, exuding joy indescribable, and full of glory. When you discover Christ in you, there’ll be no place for any disease in your body; that’ll be the end of darkness and lack. Glory to God!

The revelation of Christianity is Christ IN YOU; not in heaven. Don’t start fasting and asking Him to pour something out from heaven; don’t ask Him to give you a blessing from heaven. He’s blessed you already with Himself; with all the blessings that are in Christ (Ephesians 1:3). Consciously take some time today to meditate on Christ: who He is, who you are in Him, and all that He’s accomplished for you. It’ll transform your life. Hallelujah!

CONFESSION

What a privilege it is to be a member of His body, of His flesh and of His bones! Christ in me, the hope of glory! I’ve been granted the grace and ability in Christ to reign and rule over all circumstances! I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. Christ in me is my assurance of a life of continuous victory and unending success. Blessed be God!

Mariam Odunola Muftaudeen: I Prefer Married Men To Single Guys
User Avatar Forum: Other Stories

Quote:I prefer married men, won’t mind to be fourth wife — Omo VC

In an industry where many have derailed, actress, Mariam Odunola Muftaudeen, popularly known as Omo VC, has managed to stay consistent. She reveals the secrets of her success and how actresses have fared generally in the movie industry in an interview with SEGUN ADEBAYO.

Which movie signalled your turnaround in the movie industry?

My first production entitled “Omo VC” gave me a turnaround. It gave producers and directors an impression about what I am capable of bringing into their projects.

How successful are you on the job?

I can’t specifically measure my success. However, I can say that being active and relevant till now in itself is a demonstration of success. I cannot dispute the fact that being consistent worked and continues to work for me.

The movie industry is getting more competitive by the day and female celebs reportedly do all kinds of things to stay relevant. What’s your take?

The truth is that every person has their respective reasons and targets for joining the industry. However, competition has been a bone in the neck for most practitioners, particularly female celebrities. They want to wear the latest designers, see the world on vacation every month, use the latest cars and gadgets. All these and more will only push people to more occupational and psychological stress, leading to feeling of low self-esteem and inferiority.

How difficult is it for an actress to get a responsible man without an ulterior motive?

Love is a relative idea. One man’s meat is another man’s poison. Being an actress or not doesn’t determine if one would have a responsible man as partner. It is just that the recent trend of uncultured actresses has cast the focused ones in a bad light. A situation where Instagram actresses are more than real practitioners is an appalling one.

How do you manage to keep your game tight knowing that there are many who want what you have?

Since I joined the industry, I have always placed my head high and focused. Despite the distractions, I chose to stick to the rules of engagement, which is being committed. I think that has worked effectively for me so far.

Would you act nude if the money is tempting enough?

I can never act nude, not even for the highest offer of millions. I cherish my body, mind and sanity. Whatever an actor does for the sake of fame, we should remember that the internet never forgets. I can’t take up a role I won’t be proud to let my children and grandchildren watch in the future.

Was there any role you wish you had taken but was given to a colleague?

I don’t think there was any.

People say the new crop of actresses are too desperate for fame.

Sincerely, I can’t speak for or about them. What I am sure about is that time will tell. If an actor or actress lacks quality training or practice ethics, they go through back doors to get roles and do unthinkable things.

Some of your colleagues say acting alone doesn’t pay the bills. How are you coping?

Acting is expected to be a lucrative job in Nigeria the way it is in other countries. Due to some circumstances, however, the industry isn’t settled enough. I can state that seven out of 10 actors don’t live on acting. They have other means of survival. And they service their acting career with the money they get from their other businesses. I am also not exempted from this situation.

With the state of things and structure in the industry, do you think Yoruba movie industry is growing?

Truly, the Yoruba movie industry is growing, yet there is a lot of things that need to be done. I believe the industry will be better if the leadership can focus more on membership data/status and proper sanction for erring practitioners. An association without discipline will collapse. I have confidence in the leadership of TAMPAN led by Mr Latin. His administration has brought new touch to the industry.

As a Muslim and an Alhaja, are you in support of a man marrying as many wives as he wishes?

Marriage is a delicate topic that I am always cautious to discuss because it cuts across various faiths with personal interests and different kinds of persons involved. But as a Muslim, my religion gives room for a man to marry more than one wife with clear explanations that such a man must create balance on the home front. If a man doesn’t have the financial, mental, physical and psychological capacity to marry more than one wife, he is not expected to go into polygamy. I however don’t have any issue with polygamy as long as there is adequate care and respect among the parties involved. Personally, I like married men more than single guys because I have never been lucky with single guys. As it looks, I might end up being second, third or even fourth wife, I don’t mind as long as I am happy.

Would you quit acting if your man wants you to?

First, I can’t marry someone who doesn’t have interest in my profession. Acting is my pride and it gives me joy. Before going into relationship, my man must have been aware of how passionate I am with acting and filmmaking. So, his unconditional support is non-negotiable.

How many movies do you have to your credit as a producer?

To the glory of God, I have produced seven movies so far and I hope to do more.

The sleek, cold water species like fish, salmon hoki and sardine. These are the best fish for cerebrum anyway because of the regularly known pattern that these fish can be poisonous numerous individuals would prefer not to hazard their wellbeing by eating them.

Anyway because of their lethality a great many people want to take fish oil supplement, anyway before you buy any fish oil ensure it has experienced a procedure known as sub-atomic refining.

So you may inquire as to why fish oil is the best nourishment for cerebrum wellbeing? The appropriate response is basic. It contains two significant omega3 unsaturated fats known as EPA and DHA. They can't be made by the human body in this manner you should bring them into your framework as an enhancement or from the nourishments you eat.

Since the American populace is eating less fish there is a lack in these fats which can cause passing from respiratory failures or strokes. Hardship of the unsaturated fats can likewise prompt melancholy and bi-polar issue.DHA makes up a decent level of the cerebrum fats and keep the mind layers sound and help to expel the development of platelet. Sad photo of a young hawker forced to endure cold, hunger at night because he was allegedly warned by his aunt not return home until all the oranges are sold off

The young boy was reportedly spotted by a Facebook user in Awka, Anambra state capital.

Read the report below:

Quote:"What an unfair world. This night as I was entering a popular eatery to feed the worms in my stomach, I beheld this boy of ten years dozing beside the oranges he sells. After taking this pic, I nudged him and when he came awake, I began to ask questions. The summary of what he said is this: he's from Abakaliki and lives with an aunt in Awka. He's in primary school. He sells oranges which his aunt has decreed that he must finish selling or else he dare not return home. Thus, even at night when he should be home resting, he's still on the road trying and hoping to sell all he has on the tray. Tonight, he was tired and shivering in the harmattan cold. He therefore decided to take a nap, as pictured, before continuing to hawk. He told me his aunt maltreats him too. I thought of how to help him and decided to buy all the oranges in order to set him free. He had to follow me to where I parked to keep my oranges. On the way, it occurred to me that this was how bad people could lure him to their place and kill him"

Pastor allegedly defiles two sisters during deliverance in Imo

The Imo State Police Command has arrested a Pastor of one of the new-generation churches in the state identified as Kenneth Onyeali, for allegedly defiling a 10-year-old girl and her 16-year-old sick elder sister.

The general overseer of Christ New Covenant Church located in Umuagwo in Ohaji Egbema local government area of Imo State, allegedly committed the said act while supposedly conducting deliverance for the one of the girls who was ill.

Mother of the victims, Mrs. Ijeoma Emeoha who recounted how the incident occurred said the Pastor told her to bring her 10-year-old daughter to look after her sister who developed a health complication on her legs that crippled and forced her out of school.

She said;

Quote:“The pastor I entrusted my sick daughter into his care and he was repeatedly defiling my sick child for days and when he got tired of her, he demanded that the younger one be brought to him and he continued from where he stopped.
“When my daughter complained after some days of constant sexual intercourse, Pastor Kenneth told her that that was the only way she could be healed of her sickness”.

On how she discovered that her daughter has been defiled, the distraught mother said;

Quote: “When my 10 year-old daughter returned from the church, I decided to bath her myself.
“But, I saw her bleeding from her private part and the couldn’t allow me to touch her there. When I queried her, she told me it was Pastor Kenneth that used his fingers inside her vagina. She said the pastor told her that if she wanted her elder sister to get better, she must allow him to remove some evil spirit in her vagina”.

Mrs Emeoha revealed that she discovered that the Pastor has also been sexually assaulting her 16-year-old daughter since she was brought to the church.

She added;

Quote:“When I confronted the pastor, he immediately refunded N30,000 I was charged for the prayers, begging that I forgive him. But I reported to my husband’s brothers who reported the matter to the police."

Confirming the incident, Imo state's police spokesman, Orlando Ikeoku said the Pastor deceived one of the girls into believing she could be healed of her ailment through sexual intercourse with him.

Ikeoku said;

Quote:“The girl was deceived by the pastor into believing that she could be healed of her ailment through sexual intercourse with him. After three days of sexual intercourse with the pastor, the girl wasn’t seeing any improvement. She complained and had to report to her people.”

Boko Haram is not holding any territory in the country - Nigerian Army

The Defence Headquarters has said that no territory in Nigeria is under the control of Boko Haram terrorists or the Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP).

Director of Defence Information, Brigadier-General Onyema Nwachukwu made this known on Monday during a press conference at the Defence Headquarters in Abuja, the nation’s capital.

Speaking on the various military operations in the country, Nwachukwu said the outlawed terrorists remain decimated, stressing that the military is not resting on its oars to ensure that they are not only chad to the fringes of lake chad but are completely wiped out.

Quote:“Boko Haram is not holding any territory, any itch of our territory in this country. I want to make it very clear that Boko Haram and ISWAP have been decimated. They have been depleted and been pushed into what we call the tumbles,” he stated.
Speaking further, the Defence Spokesman said the tumbles comprise “the islands between Nigeria and the neighbouring countries of Chad, Niger and Cameroon.”

According to him, the terrorists usually hibernate in the nation’s neighbouring countries before carrying out their dastardly acts on soft targets. While reiterating his earlier claim that Boko Haram isn’t holding any territory, Nwachukwu explained that the terrorists usually keep surveillance on some soft targets before striking.

Reacting to Sunday’s attacks in Yobe, the defence spokesman insisted that the terrorists were “severely dealt with.” Nwachukwu’s claim comes six days after Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum, begged the Nigerian Army to reclaim three Local Government Areas (LGAs) of the state still under the control of the insurgents.

Dickson had plans of joining APC but he was blocked by Sylva - Wike

Governor Nyesom Wike who has been enmeshed in a heated exchange with Governor Seriake Dickson, has accused the outgoing Bayelsa State Governor of concluding plans of joining the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Speaking at a press conference in Port Harcourt on Monday December 23, Wike alleged that Dickson had plans of joining the APC to avoid getting prosecuted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission after leaving office.

The Rivers State Governor further disclosed that Dickson's plan was crashed by the minister of state for petroleum Timipre Sylva.

He said;

Quote:“Dickson concluded plans to join the APC. Timipre Sylva and Heineken Lokpobiri blocked him. He knew I have strength, he would have consulted me.
“Dickson colluded with these people so that EFCC will not arrest him when he leaves Government. If you like, carry any level of propaganda, I will protect the interest of Rivers State."

Governor Wike also claimed that his Bayelsa State counterpart plotted to hijack Soku oil wells which the supreme court recently ceded to Bayelsa.

Quote:“In 2002, the NBC altered the boundary in the 11th Edition of the Administrative Map of Nigeria. They made a mistake by shifting the boundary from River Santa Barbara to River St Batholomew. At the Supreme Court, the NBC wrote a letter a admitting their error.
“The Supreme Court made an order for the NBC to correct the error of the 11th Edition in the 12th Edition.”
“We had to sue the NBC to enforce the order of the Supreme Court where they were directed to ensure that the Boundary between Rivers and Bayelsa State is River Santa Barbara.
“How can Dickson invade Rivers State when he cannot defend Bayelsa State?”

Also reacting to Dickson's allegation of deliberately instigating disunity in Ijaw land, the Rivers State Governor said;

Quote:“The outgoing Bayelsa State Governor is the one trying to cause disharmony by attempting to collect what belongs to the Ijaw in Rivers State.
“How can Dickson invade Rivers State when he cannot defend Bayelsa State? The person talking about invading Rivers State in January 2020 lacks respect for Protocol. If he was well schooled, would he use that phrase that he wants to invade Rivers State?
“You have no respect. A Traditional Ruler who is a First-Class ruler, recognised by Government and you say you are coming to a state as a Governor to see Rivers Ijaw people without observing basic protocol. Protocol demands you call your colleague that you are coming to the State. Even then, the Traditional Ruler failed to communicate with the State Government.
“And I said, if you do this next time, I will withdraw the Recognition. I didn’t say I will dethrone him. I don’t make Chiefs. But I have the power to recognise or take back recognition if you run foul of the law. I have no regrets about it.vAnyone who runs foul of the law, I will withdraw the Recognition and heaven will not fall. I never said that I will dethrone the Amanyanabo of Kalabari.
“I said that I will withdraw the Recognition by the Rivers State Government if he continues to disrespect the office of the Governor and not play according to the rules.”

Judge withdraws from Omoyele Sowore’s suit

Justice Ahmed Mohammed of the Federal High Court in Abuja has withdrawn from a lawsuit filed by Omoyele Sowore for his release from custody of the Department of State Service.

The Federal High Court Judge who made a formal withdrawal from the case on Monday December 23, said it's the right thing to do since Sahara Reporters, a news platform owned by Omoyele Sowore accused him of taking bribe to influence a court Judgement.

Justice Mohammed disclosed that though he was prevailed upon by the prosecution (EFCC) and defence teams to continue on the case of former Governor of Benue State, Senator Gabriel Suswam after Sahara Reporters first shared its report in 2016, Justice Okon Abang took over the case after a similar report was published in June 2019.

He added that if his judgement goes in favour of the #RevolutionNow convener it will be seen as being blackmailed by him; if it goes against the media personality it will be interpreted as a payback.

Mohammed said;

Quote:“Justice is rooted in confidence. That is to say none of the parties should have fear or apprehension that he will not get justice before a court.”

The case file has been sent back to the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court Justice John Tsoho, for reassignment to another judge.

Sowore Appears In Court Today (Photos)
User Avatar Forum: General Discussion
Posted by: Edoman - 12-23-2019, 06:47 PM - No Replies

Justice Ahmed Mohammed of the Federal High Court in Abuja on Monday withdrew from the fundamental rights enforcement suit instituted by the 'RevolutionNow' protests convener, Mr. Omoyele Sowore, seeking an order for his release from custody of the Department of State Service. There have been no fresh charges instituted against Sowore since he was rearrested by the operatives of the DSS on December 6 barely 24 hours of being released from the agency's detention lasting over months.

But Justice Mohammed ruled on Monday that he could not hear Sowore's case filed on December 10 saying it was the fair, just and proper thing to do in view of the previous publications by Sowore's medium, Sahara Reporters, accusing him of taking bribe in a case to influence the outcome of his case.

The case in question is the trial of a former Governor of Benue State, Senator Gabriel Suswam, who is now being prosecuted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission before another judge of the court, Justice Okon Abang. Justice Mohammed noted on Monday that the reports by Sahara Reporters in 2016 and 2019 made him to withdraw from the ex-governor's trial.

He recalled that when the first report was published in 2016, he was prevailed upon by the prosecution and defence teams to continue with the case. He said on continuing with the case, a similar report was published in June this year.

He said the situation put him in a situation whereby if he ruled in favour of Sowore, it could be perceived as having been blackmailed by Sowore to so rule, and that in the event that he ruled against the activist, he could be perceived as being vengeful.

"Justice is rooted in confidence," the judge said, adding, "That is to say none of the parties should have fear or apprehension that he will not get justice before a court." He then ordered that the case file be sent back to the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court, Justice John Tsoho, for reassignment to another judge.

CBN: N50 POS Charge To Be Paid By Businesses Not Customers
User Avatar Forum: Market Place
Posted by: Edoman - 12-23-2019, 06:46 PM - No Replies

Quote:The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has urged customers not to pay N50 charge to businesses for using point of sale (POS) machines.

Musa Jimoh, a director in CBN’s payment system management department, explained the apex bank’s merchant charge directive on Monday.

“The stamp duty is a fee regulated by an act. The CBN doesn’t regulate the stamp duty so we can’t change anything. Stamp duty as it is today has been misinterpreted,” Jimoh said.

“Our circular that talks about merchants paying stamp duty according to the law does not say that the stamp duty should be paid by the consumer. That’s actually a misrepresentation of the CBN’S directive.

“What our directive says is that merchants should pay all necessary charges as regulated by the government agency including stamp duty. When there is an electronic transaction to an account other than savings account and the transaction amount is more than N1,000, you have to pay stamp duty.

“Our explanation to banks is that we would like the merchants to comply with this directive by ensuring that every single payment customers make to them, the merchants pay the regulated stamp duty of N50.

“What has happened is that they have transferred this fee, blatantly and openly to the consumers. This is very wrong.

“No single individual should pay N50 in addition to the cost of the good. Stamp duty is not to be paid by individuals that are consuming the goods and services of the merchant. The merchants who are receiving the money are the ones who are supposed to pay.”

It had earlier been reported that consumers would pay more for POS transactions after the CBN said stamp duty would be charged on individual transactions rather than previous plans where charges occurred on aggregate transactions.

Breaking! Police unjustly holds Hon. Shina Peller hostage for no reason

The Nigeria Police Force has unjustly held hostage a member of the House of Representatives representing Iseyin/Itesiwaju/Kajola/Iwajowa federal constituency, Hon. Shina Peller at Moroko Police station, Lagos State.

This was contained in a statement released by Honourable Peller's Press Secretary, Mr. Kola Popoola, where he called on the Nigeria police to immediately release the revered Hon. Peller.

Hon. Shina Peller was at Moroko police station to bail some of Club Quilox's customers who had allegedly parked on the road during a show at the Club.

Prior to the kickoff of the 36hours non-stop show which usually holds every year at Quilox, Hon. Peller had informed the concerned Lagos traffic authorities to avoid unnecessary traffic gridlock.

On getting to Moroko police station, the police started harassing Hon. Peller and even went as far as seizing all his phones for no reason.

The continuous harassment and unjust detain of a member of House of Representatives, Hon. Peller, by the police calls for urgent attention of the media, and the commissioner of Police.

The Speaker of Nigeria's House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila lashed out at those claiming he is leading a rubber stamp legislature, during a meeting with members of his constituency in Surulere, Lagos State on Sunday December 22.

According to the House of Reps Speaker, it is better to be rubber stamp than fight the executive because that wasn't what he was elected to do.

Femi Gbajabiamila who reiterated that the 9th National Assembly is committed to protecting the interests of the people through diligent discharge of its legislative duties, added that there will be checks and balances.

He said;

Quote:“People, critics and members of other parties have said the 9th Assembly is a rubber stamp of the executive. You know my reply when they say that to you?
"Tell them that you would rather have a rubber stamp National Assembly that will bring progress than the one that is fighting the executive without progress. This is because when two elephants fight, the grass suffers. .

"This is not a rubber stamp National Assembly; this is a National Assembly that represents the people and is committed to their interests. .

"The people of Surulere did not elect me to fight the executive, but to engage and collaborate with stakeholders to bring the dividends of democracy.

"This is a new dispensation. There will be checks and balances. There will be separation of powers. We will agree with the executive if we have to and we will disagree if we have to.

"Our watchword is to protect the interests of the Nigerian people. That is the oath that my colleagues and I swore to.”

CAN supports US accuses Buhari's government of nepotism and lopsided appointment

CAN supports US on addition of Nigeria to list of religious intolerant countries, accuses Buhari's government of nepotism and lopsided appointment

The Christian Association Nigerian has publicly supported the addition of Nigeria to the “Special Watch List (SWL)” of countries that have engaged in or tolerated “severe violations of religious freedom.”

The Christian group who countered Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed's claim of the United States being misled by propaganda, also accused of the Buhari-led administration of nepotism and lopsided appointment which favours only one religion.

CAN also recounted how the Chief Justice of Nigeria, few days ago called for amendment of the Constitution with a view of adding more Sharia contents. It also pointed out that no Christian is heading the 3 arms of government.

The statement released by Adebayo Oladeji, the Special Assistant (Media &Communications) to CAN President Reverend Samson Ayokunle reads;

Quote:RELIGIOUS AND ETHNIC INTOLERANCE: US IS STANDING ON THE SIDE OF TRUTH FOR PLACING NIGERIA ON SPECIAL WATCH LIST

The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) welcomes the placing of the country on a special watch list by the US government despite the fact that we were not contacted before the decision was taken. We are not happy that our country is being listed among the nations where religious intolerance is one of their hallmarks but it gladdens our hearts that, at least, the global community is not unaware of the fact that Nigerian Christians are becoming endangered species in their Fatherland.
The reasons given by the United States are too glaring to be disputed. The US, like every other country, has an embassy here that monitors and reports back what the country is going through and the approach being adopted by the government to addressing the situation. Is it not true that “The Nigerian federal government failed to implement effective strategies to prevent or stop such violence or to hold perpetrators accountable,” as noted by the US government?
The leadership of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has made this known to President Muhammadu Buhari in all our meetings with him to see the whole country as his constituency and to avoid nepotism as much as possible; but instead of correcting the imbalance, one of his aides is fond of abusing and insulting the Association using every unprintable words.
The Chief Justice of Nigeria, few days ago, called for amendment to the Constitution with a view to adding more Sharia contents. Since the Chief Justice has not denied the story and the government has failed to call him to order, it is crystal clear that the US government has more facts than the government thinks. If the government is sensitive to our yearnings and aspirations, how come no Christian is heading any of the three arms of government in the present dispensation? This is unprecedented in the history of this country since Independence. Is that one of the reasons why no Christian worthy of occupying any of those sensitive positions?
Another slap on our face is the composition of the National Security Council of the country. We learnt that 98 per cent of its members come from one part of the country and people of same faith. Let the government unmask its members including their religions and states of origin. The government is telling us that Christians are not worthy for those key appointments but to play the second fiddle.
So, another thing that could be responsible for the action of the US government is the lopsided appointments in the polity which confirms popular fear and perception that the government is against the Christians. We have made it abundantly clear to President Muhammadu Buhari repeatedly that the lopsided appointments of his government in favour of one religion and a section of the country is unconstitutional, violates Nigeria’s Federal Character Principle and so it is unacceptable. But the action of the President is strong enough to convince us that he is not ready to correct the imbalance of his appointments forgetting that the country belongs to all Nigerians irrespective of their religious, tribal and political beliefs. The recent appointments in the Police is a good evidence to the critical posture of CAN.
There are enough evidences to prove that the subtle Islamisation agenda and nepotism are real. All the key appointments that are being made since the second term of the President began follow same blueprint. These are facts and they are violations of some portions of the 1999 Constitution (as amended). These include but not limited to Sections 10, 13 (3-4), 15 (2) (d) and (4).
It is widely believed that no country survives two civil wars. We, therefore, call on the government to correct the imbalances and not to be insensitive to the new development but instead address all the factors that are responsible. The government can deny all these facts to the governed but the US government cannot act on mere make-up stories. Of the three arms of the government, none is being headed by a Christian? Why?
Is the US government not aware of the untold hardship Christians are going through in the country, especially in states such as Kaduna, Benue, Plateau, Adamawa and Taraba where Christians are being slaughtered like rams by the Boko Haram terrorists and killer herdsmen while the security agencies appear powerless, complacent and it seems as if the government of the day lacks political will to deal with the criminals? Although we are not unaware of the fact that some Muslims living in those states are also affected but since these states are predominantly Christian, the primary targets of violence, barbaric killings and destruction of properties are Christians.
It is a fact that not fewer than 95 per cent of those who are being detained by the terrorists are Christians and the government has been paying lips service towards securing their freedoms. Leah Sharibu is a case study and the only reason why the government that secured the release of her colleagues has not freed her is because of her religion. We wonder why the government has not done the needful to liberate this innocent girl who happens to be a daughter of a Police officer.
It is disheartening and disappointing to note that even the ongoing anti-graft war of the government is not an exemption. While CAN is not encouraging corrupt practices but we are against selective approach to the fight against corruption. From the position of this government, it is only few Christians holding key appointments in this dispensation that are corrupt. This is a fallacious position.
CAN urges the Federal Government to let its policies be implemented according to the dictates of the Constitution. The bitter truth is Christians are yet to be given any sense of belonging since this government came on board. Our prayers include wisdom and the courage for President Muhammadu Buhari to give all citizens a sense of belonging, irrespective of their religious, tribal and political affiliations. He should govern the country as the Father of the nation. We commend the United States for standing on the side of the oppressed and the truth.

19,273 Nigerian teachers fail 2019 Professional Qualification Examination

The Registrar and Chief Executive of the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria, TRCN, Professor Segun Ajiboye on Sunday, December 22nd revealed that 53,674 candidates passed the November diet of the Professional Qualification Examination, PQE, organised by the Council to certify teachers in Nigeria.

The breakdown of the results, according to the Registrar, showed that 72,947 wrote the examinations in various centers across the country out of which 19,273 failed.

Ajiboye lauded the commitment of Nigerian teachers to excellent delivery in spite of the challenges they face and the support given to TRCN to reposition the teaching profession in the country.

Lagos State topped the list of those who registered for the examination with 8,224 while 6,067 passed the examination. This was followed by Oyo State with about 5,599 registered, while 4,243 passed and Kaduna where 3,769 passed out of 4,008 who registered for the examination.

According to Ajiboye, the professional qualification examination was a continuous exercise and urged unqualified teachers to register and write the next diet to escape the sanction which awaited uncertified ‘teachers’ in 2020.

Quote:He said, “PQE is a continuous thing and the door is still open to those who have not registered to do so. And those who failed the examination still have opportunities of retaking the exam. The close of the deadline does not mean that PQE has stopped.
“Registration for the next Diet of the examination has commenced in all TRCN offices nationwide.
We appreciate the commitment of the Nigerian teachers to excellent delivery in spite of the challenges they face and the support given to TRCN in its efforts to reposition the teaching profession in the country.”

RHAPSODY OF REALITIES

MONDAY, 23RD DECEMBER.

ALIVE BY THE SPIRIT

But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you (Romans 8:11).

What we just read in the verse above isn’t a promise; it has already happened! Your physical body, your previously deathdoomed and death-prone body, has been rejuvenated and vitalized by the Holy Spirit who lives in you. So, your life is from the Spirit, sustained through the Word. 1 Peter 1:23 says, “Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever.

” God gave birth to us by the Word, through the Spirit.
The blood that’s flowing through your veins isn’t what’s keeping you alive. But why is the blood important? First, it testifies of man’s humanity.
Leviticus 17:11 says, “For the life of the flesh is in the blood....” Therefore, the redemption of man had to be by the shedding of blood, the blood of Jesus—life for life! Now that He gave His life for us to have His life, the life of your flesh is no longer your blood, but the Spirit.

Remember, He was raised back to life without blood, yet He wasn’t a Ghost. He said to His disciples after His resurrection, “Look at my hands and my feet. It is I myself! Touch me and see; a ghost does not have flesh and bones, as you see I have” (Luke 24:39 NIV). Notice He didn’t say, “flesh and blood”; the resurrection life doesn’t require blood to function, and that’s the life you have in you.

It’s the reason no sickness or disease can ravage your body, because sickness and disease attack the blood, to destroy the body. But thanks be unto God! John 1:12-13 says, “But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name: Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.” Have this consciousness and live above this world; above sickness, disease and the corrupting forces of this present world of darkness.

CONFESSION

I live by the power of the Spirit that raised Christ from the dead. That power revives and vitalizes my physical body and produces life in me. I’m a life-giver, having been born after Christ, who is the lifegiving Spirit. Hallelujah!

Two dead and one critically injured after "man goes on rampage with knife" in UK

Two women were found dead in their home in West Sussex with their throats slit after a man reportedly went on a rampage. A third person has also been critically injured, officers said.

It is believed that the knifeman who went on a rampage inside a house on Hazel Way, in Crawley Down, was known to his victims and he has since been arrested on suspicion of murder.

A helicopter, ambulances, and police all rushed to the scene following reports of a stabbing just before 11am today, December 22.

Two victims were pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics, while the third victim was rushed to hospital by ambulance with injuries to his chest. He was then rushed to the major trauma unit at the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton, where surgeons had been put on standby.

A police cordon has now been set up around the house while forensic experts search for evidence.

One neighbour told reporters they believed the man to be a member of the victims’ family.

They said: "It seems he has killed two people and severely stabbed a third person. I don’t know whether they are related to him but it is just terrible.

"To think that on a Sunday morning you wake up to a normal day and suddenly all this happens. It is even more desperate because it is so close to Christmas."

Another neighbour added: "This is normally such a quiet place, nothing nasty ever happens here. We are just a nice ordinary estate with now trouble."

Fire razes Ekiosa market in Benin (video)

A tragic incident occurred today in Benin as the popular Ekiosa market was razed down by fire.

Facebook user, Zion Ose who shared a video from the scene of the incident, alleged that the State's Fire Service who were notified of the incident said they didn't have water.

He wrote;

Quote:Ekiosa market, Benin, on fire. Over 1hour and there's still no sign of fire service men. They said they don't have water. Yet, over 30billion has been budgeted for the renovation of a building for fools!
Truth is, Nigeria is a mess. A joke. A murderer! You need to hear the sound of this raging fire like it's war.

However the Edo State government who confirmed the incident, said they are investigating allegations of suspected arson over the market fire.

According to the Special Adviser to the Edo State Governor on Media and Communication Strategy Mr. Crusoe Osagie, the increased fire incidents in markets around Benin metropolis may bear political connotation.

The statement reads;

Quote:“The state government has commenced investigation into the Ekiosa fire incident as we have received preliminary information indicating that the fire may have been caused by arsonists, who are bent on painting the government in bad light.
“The information we have show that the arsonists may be working on the instructions of the disbanded Edo Peoples Movements (EPM), who are shopping for avenues to discredit the Governor Obaseki-led government.
“It is also curious that when officials of the Fire Service and other stakeholders in emergency response mobilised to the site of the fire at Ekiosa market, they were attacked and chased away by the arsonists. This is a serious offence and government will not condone the action of these persons, as anyone found culpable will be made to face the full wrath of the law.
“Relevant stakeholders are being rallied around to carry out the investigations into the incident to establish the case of arson, even as government agencies and departments responsible for emergency response are being debriefed on what transpired when they responded to the incident.
“We will provide support to the affected traders to enable them return to their businesses. We are mindful that these traders would have stocked wares for the festive season. The state government will ensure that they’re fully compensated.”

Seyi Makinde To Pay 13th-Month Salary, Still Using His Private Car
User Avatar Forum: News

Quote:To pay 13th-month salary, still using his private car — 7 lessons from Seyi Makinde’s media chat

Seyi Makinde, governor of Oyo State, had his quarterly media chat in Ibadan, the state Capital, on Friday night, where he promised that the state workers will get a 13th-month salary on Dec 28, 2019.

Makinde’s government was said to have paid December salary on the 16th, to help civil servants prepare for Christmas.

TheCable brings you the top seven issues Makinde addressed and what we recently learnt from the first media chat after his electoral victory was affirmed by the Supreme Court.

‘WE HAVEN’T BOUGHT A SINGLE OFFICIAL CAR’

Makinde told the residents of the state via the chat that he still uses his private car, and has not bought any car for any state official.

“When we started, Oyo State’s finances were in a bad state. At the moment, I still use my personal car. We have not bought any car for the officials, this will cost billions,” Makinde said.

‘OYSG DIDN’T SPEND 1 KOBO ON CHRISTMAS DECORATION’

For the first time in recent history, a good number of residents and visitors to Ibadan appreciate heavy Christmas decorations at Iwo Road, the major connecting road between traffic from Lagos to northern Nigeria, and many other parts of the state.

Makinde, however, stated that the decorations came at no cost to the state government.

“Oyo State government didn’t spend 1 kobo on the Christmas decorations,” Makinde said.

“It was funded by the usual ‘Christmas gift’ to the governor, that was what we used to pay for the Christmas decorations so it cost government nothing.”

‘STREET TRADERS ARE BREADWINNERS, WE WON’T CHASE THEM’

Asked what his government will do to hawkers who roam the state to make a living, Makinde said some hawkers are breadwinners, and his government will not get them off the roads without alternatives.

“Street trading will not be eradicated overnight. some of them are breadwinners, and that is their main source of income. I agree it’s very dangerous. Our position is, we can’t chase them off the street without an alternative.

“The ones removed from Ojoo, were moved to the Akinyele trailer park. At scout camp, we reduced the rent for stalls and ordered installation of electricity, toilets etc. we have to be careful we don’t take away their means of livelihood without offering alternatives.

“Dealing with the issue of street trading requires careful planning and implementation by the government.”

‘WE WOULDN’T BECOME ANOTHER LAGOS’

Speaking on transportation, Makinde said Oyo will not become another Lagos.

“On transportation, we have been extremely lucky. We do have a good road network, we just need to maintain it. We need to attract more people to our state,” the governor said.

“I don’t see the current influx of people into Oyo State as a challenge; I see it as a huge opportunity to grow our economy. The dry port, rail network and the Circular Road are good opportunities to kick start the real estate sector.

“Yes, it will present a few challenges but there is an assurance it won’t turn to another Lagos. We will recreate infrastructure similar to Ikoyi but with value for money.”

‘OYO AND OSUN PLANNING LAUTECH DIVORCE’

Makinde said his government is in talks with the State of Osun government to have a divorce on the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH).

“The term of reference is clear; to get a ‘divorce’ from Osun State regarding ownership. I believe the members of the committee are up to the task. We are not being unreasonable, we are negotiating with Osun on this. Not making unreasonable demands,” he added.

“Our stand on LAUTECH is in the interest of the parents, students and staff. We were given an overwhelming mandate by the people of Oyo State both in the gubernatorial and House of Assembly elections so we cannot claim lack of political will.”

‘ONE PRIMARY HEALTHCARE CENTRE PER WARD’

The billionaire governor and engineer said the state has about 600 primary healthcare centre (PHC) which are not fit for purpose, and his government is planning to have.

“There is stress on the General Hospitals because of lack of facilities in the PHCs. Oranyan PHC is the standard we will use for all PHCs in Oyo State. We have about 600 of them but most are not fit for purpose.

“I spoke to the people running it, instead of having 600, let’s rationalise them. We will start by ensuring 1 per ward is fully functional. We are working making healthcare insurance more effective, once this is completed, we will have more resources to deploy to address this.”

The governor also spoke on increased IGR, closing about 60 bank accounts operated by the last administration, and celebrating his birthday.

“Anywhere you are on Christmas day, please celebrate my birthday. Buy chicken and turkey and celebrate. We will be paying the 13th-month salary for civil/public servants by the 28th of December,” he said to the people.

Makinde turns 52 on December 25, 2019.

Zamfara commissioner of education resigns, blasts Governor Matawalle

Alhaji Jamilu Zannah, the Commissioner of Education in Zamfara State has resigned posting a sharp rebuke of Governor Bello Matawalle as a bad team player.

Zannah resigned barely two weeks after his inauguration as a member of the state executive council. He hinged his resignation on the “high-handedness” and lack of consultation on the part of Matawalle.

The government has however dismissed the claims, saying Zannah’s action was unfortunate, selfish and a ploy for cheap publicity.

The former Commissioner, who also served as Matawalle’s campaign director during the 2019 governorship election in the state, announced his resignation on Saturday while speaking to newsmen at his Gusau residence.

Quote:“His excellency, Alhaji Bello Matawalle has been doing things and running this government single handedly since he assumed office as governor. As his campaign director general, I know we made several promises to many people that when we succeed, these promises will be met.
“However, of all the appointments so far made which include many directors general, senior special assistants, special assistants, special advisers, permanent secretaries, commissioners and members of boards and committees, I am not aware of any that the governor consulted us on.”
Zannah who just returned from a medical trip in India said,
Quote:“even though the governor was aware of my sickness and my medical trip where he stayed for about 40 days, which was why he missed the executive council inauguration, he never called to sympathize with me up to the time l returned.
Quote:“Since l did not join this Matawalle movement for my personal gains but for the benefits of the people and in order to move the state forward, l have decided to reject this appointment as commissioner of education in the state with immediate effect, and this followed my discussions with my associates.
“I do not know how l can face all those people we made promises to when they see me going round as commissioner while the promises made to them remained unfulfilled.” Matawalle who is currently on a foreign trip, however, said through his Special Adviser on Media, Zailani Bappa, “it is rather unfortunate that someone who claims closeness to His Excellency will resort to this unwholesome antic which is clearly a ploy to achieve a cheap and personal political goal.”
He dismissed the reasons for the resignation as paltry, shallow and a political joke.
Quote: “To put the records straight, His Excellency, Governor Bello Muhammad promised the people of Zamfara State peaceful co-existence and good governance.
“The whole world has acclaimed the excellent achievements of His Excellency in bringing peace and introduction of programmes for the speedy development of the state.
“It is therefore, unfortunate that personal and selfish considerations will becloud the vision of trusted confidants at a time when all hands must be on deck to begin a new era in the history of Zamfara State.”
He however wished Zannah all the best in his future endeavours.  Zannah was a former state chairman of the Nigeria Union of Teachers and the Nigeria Labour Congress.

Video Senate President Lawan Is Just A ‘rubber’ Waiting To Stamp Anything
User Avatar Forum: General Discussion

Quote:Watching the President of the Senate, Ahmad Lawan, on television on Monday, affirming that the red chamber would approve the $29.96 billion loan request of Pres
Muhammadu Buhari, left me so muddled.

Lawan persistently spoke as if he was one of the aides of Buhari. He did not sound one bit like he is heading another arm of government.Since his assumption of office, Lawan has been thinking and acting as if he is part of the Executive.

On this loan request, I was expecting him to talk about a thorough scrutiny of the request by the Senate. He did not do this.Even before senators commenced debate on the request, Lawan had already approved it. Haba! It means the views of other senators no longer matter.

This President of the Senate, who has now become an autocrat in the Red Chamber, declared, “The question of whether we will approve the loan request of the Executive arm of Government? Yes, we will pass it.” Few weeks back, this President of the Senate shot down some members who requested for copies of the amendments to the Value Added Tax, before the First reading. Senators did not see the document before it jumped the first and second reading.

Fanatical Lawan no longer understands the concept of check and balance in a democracy. He is unconscious that we are running a constitutional government and that check and balance must apply. Yes, the legislature does not exist to antagonise the Executive. However, it must effectively and efficiently check the Executive, else, there will be absolutism, as we are now experiencing in Nigeria.

The system of check and balance is an important part of our Constitution. With check and balance, each of the three branches of government can limit the powers of the others. Each branch checks the power of the other branches to make sure that the power is balanced among them. Under just six months of Lawan, power has tilted absolutely in favour of the Executive.

The principle of check and balance has been thrown into the garbage can.No wonder Lawan said he would do anything Buhari requests of him in the Senate. For him, the loan request is a done deal. He cares less if this generation, and indeed, generation yet unborn, would be plunged into stifling debt repayment.

The list of foreign borrowing by the Buhari government is growing. There is a $1 billion African Development Bank loan. There is a $1 billion Eurobond, with an additional $500 million expected from the Global Medium Term Note Programme. There is a $5.8 billion from the China Exim bank. Over 30 per cent of the 2020 budget will be funded with foreign loans. As at June 30, this year, the federal government is gasping under a debt yoke of N20.42 trillion – local and foreign. Over 30 per cent of federal revenue will go into debt servicing in 2020.

The Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II was right when, two years ago, he urged the federal government to slow down on its borrowing because it was spending such a huge part of its revenues to pay interests on debts. The Emir remarked: “The Federal Government of Nigeria is spending 66 per cent of its revenues on interests on debts, which means only 34 per cent of revenues is available for capital and recurrent expenditures. That model cannot work. If you look at the 2017 budget of the Federal Government, I sometimes wonder what Nigerian economists are doing? In the 2017 budget, the amount earmarked for debt servicing is in excess of the entire non-oil revenue of the Federal Government, but that is not the problem. The problem is that it is a budget that is even going for more debts.

“Borrowing has reached its limit and government should therefore look for ways to attract investments. Growth can only come from investments. It cannot come from consumption. It cannot come from government balance sheet. It cannot come from borrowing because you cannot borrow unsustainably.”

So, what has the masses of this country gained from this massive borrowing in terms of infrastructure and poverty alleviation? Honestly, I don’t think we have gained anything; not with the hunger, disease, poverty, unemployment and decay ravaging the country. Just look around you and you will see the level of decay in virtually all sectors of our economy – health, education, water, roads, power, security and the rest of them.

The way our governments at all levels celebrate these loans often leave me dejected. They create the impression that it would be a quick fix for all our problems. Unfortunately, it does not turn out that way.

Just imagine that $1 billion Eurobond sale being turned into an achievement. The oversubscription to the tune of $ 7.8 billion at an interest rate of 7.88% was celebrated as if we are getting free money. For those who don’t know, by the time this country exits this bond, we would have conservatively paid an additional $1 billion as interest. The interest could go higher as the Naira plummets. So, they have simply pushed Nigeria to continue wallowing in more debt.

The burden on our star-crossed generation and indeed future generation is weighty. A huge part of the revenue that the federal government ought to be using for poverty alleviation and infrastructural development has been going into debt servicing.

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar was apt when he said President Buhari was trying to ruin the future of Nigerians with this $29.96 billion loan request: “The fact that Nigeria currently budgets more money for debt servicing (N2.7 trillion), than on capital expenditure (N2.4 trillion) is already an indicator that we have borrowed more money than we can afford to borrow. And the thing is that debt servicing is not debt repayment.

“Debt servicing just means that we are paying the barest minimum allowable by our creditors. And while spending 50% of our current revenue on debt servicing, this administration wants to take further loans of $29.6 billion! To say that this is irresponsible is itself an understatement.

President Olusegun Obasanjo and I paid off this nation’s debt, and I will not stand idly by and watch while Nigeria is plunged into second slavery by those who only know how to reap where they have not sown.”

Lawan and his cohorts care less. They want Nigeria to sustain the binge borrowing. The President of the Senate must show allegiance to Nigerians and not to Buhari. Our Senators must also show fidelity to traumatised Nigerians, snub Lawan and throw away this filthy loan request.

Boko Haram: Imperatives of Zulum, Ndume Leaks

Three deadly attacks last week by Boko Haram and ISWAP bring to the fore the painful failure of the federal government to respond appropriately to the pragmatic suggestions by Governor Babagana Zulum and Senator Ali Ndume at the recent North-east Security Summit hosted by the Borno State Government.

During the parley organised by the office of the Inspector General of Police, Zulum, declared that the whereabouts of Boko Haram were known to everyone; military, security agencies, the traditional rulers and most members of the public & all that was needed to end the killings was for the military to take the war to their doorsteps.

At the same summit, Senator Ali Ndume revealed that the commanders of the war confided in him that they could end the Boko Haram madness in just three months if given the right equipment.

“At a meeting with the Theatre Commander of Operation Lafiya Dole, lawmakers on oversight duty were made to understand that with the needed equipment, the war would end in just three months. What is stopping the government from doing this and letting us have our peace,” remarked Ndume. This Senator further lamented the poor budgetary allocation to the fight against Boko Haram in the 2020 budget.

The Buhari government has obviously failed to respond appropriately to the patriotic suggestions of Zulum and Ndume. One of the results of this letdown was the killing of the four aid workers by Boko Haram last week. It was so painful that the aid workers, who were abducted near Damasak, in Mobbar Local Government Area of Borno State, were in the dungeons of the terrorists for almost six months with little effort to secure their release, until they were executed.

In all, seven aid workers, working on a health project by Action Against Hunger, were abducted near Damasak. One of the drivers was killed during the attack and another was executed on September 24.

The aid workers could not be rescued because the Nigerian military lacks the equipment and manpower for such. This is what Ndume pointed out at the security summit and nothing happened thereafter. The Nigerian state failed these patriots who were working on a project for traumatised residents of Borno State.Their families, friends and colleagues are now enduring unspeakable pain and hardship.

As I pen this piece, the only woman in the team abducted in Damasak, Grace Taku, runs the risk of being killed by the terrorists.Alice Loksha, a nurse and a mother, who was abducted during an attack in Rann in March 2018 is also still with the terrorists.

Federal government’s failure to respond to Zulum and Ndume’s expose also resulted in the death of 19 Fulani herdsmen last week, during a gunfight with Boko Haram terrorists targeting their cattle outside Fuhe Village near Ngala, close to the border with Cameroon. The herdsmen were subdued by the better-armed Boko Haram, who returned to Fuhe village after the killings, burning homes.

Also last weekend, the terrorists inflicted pain on the residents of Gasua, Yobe State, abducting 11 persons, including a lecturer at the College of Education in the town, Bitrus Bwala. They appeared in a video shared by their abductors asking the government to come to their rescue.

The military clearly knows the whereabouts of the terrorists as indicated by Zulum but lacks the equipment and manpower (as revealed by Ndume) to destroy them. This is the truth that must be told. If this government is interested in ending Boko Haram, it should respond appropriately. As at press time, almost the entire Kukawa Local Government Area of Borno State is controlled by the terrorists. Most parts of Chibok are no go areas.

Edward Adamu is AMCON’s New Chairman?

The level of impunity under the Buhari government is frightening, unending and the government is unperturbed one bit about its lawlessness. It’s a big shame.

Suddenly, we are told that Edward Adamu, one of the deputy governors of the Central Bank of Nigeria, is the new Board Chairman of the Assets Management Corporation of Nigeria (AMCON); that Muiz Banire had been dropped and Adamu’s name forwarded to Senate and confirmed.

The defence of the government was that the amended AMCON Act says the Chairman of the firm must be a deputy governor of the CBN.The removal of Banire and appointment of Adamu is obviously an illegality. A new law can’t take retrospective effect.

A Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Ebun-olu Adegboruwa, puts it fittingly: “By law, the Chairman of AMCON, once appointed, is to remain in office for five years. Dr Muiz Banire had not completed his tenure when the President purportedly appointed another Chairman for AMCON.

The amendment of the AMCON Act does not automatically dissolve the existing Board or extinguish the offices previously created or already existing prior to the amendment.

“Under and by virtue of section 6 (1) (b) of the Interpretation Act, the repeal of an enactment shall not affect any right, privilege, obligation or liability accrued or incurred under the enactment. When a law is amended or repealed, there is a presumption of preservation of all things done under the previous law. By law, Banire is stiĺll the Chairman of the Board of AMCON.”

I was not surprised that the Senate confirmed the newly nominated Chairman for AMCON, when the existing Chairman had not exhausted his tenure or removed according to law. We don’t have an independent Senate. The Upper legislative house, as presently constituted, is a mere appendage of the Executive. It is incapable of taking an independent decision. This “follow follow” Senate approved the unlawful nomination of Adamu. What a country.

Lai Mohammed To US: El-Zakzaky Detained For Crime, Not Religious Persecution
User Avatar Forum: General Discussion
Posted by: Edoman - 12-22-2019, 04:59 PM - No Replies

Quote:The Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, has said the detention of leader of Islamic Movement of Nigeria, Sheikh Ibraheem el-Zakzaky, was “purely a criminal matter, which is being handled by a court of competent jurisdiction.”

The Minister said while the government accepted constructive criticism from any quarter, it “rejects any attempt to sow the seed of mistrust among the various religious groups in the country.”

Mohammed, on behalf of the Buhari regime, responded to a recent placement of Nigeria and six other countries on a special watchlist of states that engage in, or tolerate, “the severe violation of religious freedom.”

The Federal Government on Sunday rejected the designation, describing it as “misleading.”

According to the government, the United States “fell for the antics of the discontented and the unpatriotic few” who will not hesitate to hang Nigeria out to dry on the altar of their inordinate ambition and their sheer animosity towards the regime of the President, Major General Muhammdu Buhari (retd.).

The Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, in a statement issued in Abuja, said the deliberate effort to give religious coloration to the farmer-herder clashes and, in particular, the Boko Haram insurgency in the North East, had undoubtedly helped to mislead the US.

While describing the “iniquitous tag” as stemming from “an orchestrated narrative that has long been discredited,” he said the good people of Nigeria enjoy unfettered freedom to practise their religion.

Mohammed blamed the tag on “failed politicians and disgruntled elements — some of them supposedly respected leaders — for latching on to religion as their trump card, especially in the run up to the 2019 general elections.

He said it was “unfortunate that the US fell for the antics of the discontented and the unpatriotic” few who will not hesitate to hang Nigeria out to dry on the altar of their inordinate ambition and their sheer animosity towards the Buhari regime.

The minister said the Nigerian government was acutely aware of how the political opposition, in particular, had spared no resources in deriving political capital from the various security challenges in the country.

The statement reads in part, “The deliberate effort to give religious coloration to the farmer-herder clashes and the Boko Haram insurgency, in particular, has undoubtedly helped to mislead the US into concluding that the government is doing little or nothing to guarantee religious freedom in the country.

”But, as we have always said, the farmer-herder clashes have

nothing to do with religion but everything to do with environmental

and socio-economic realities.

“The religious tag given to the clashes has no basis in fact, but is very convenient for those who will very easily give the dog a bad name just to hang it.

“On its part, the Boko Haram terrorists are extreme fanatics who do not subscribe to the tenets of any religion, in spite of their pretence to Islamic adherence.”

Mohammed said the good news was that the Buhari regime had

succeeded in curbing the farmer-herder clashes through the

implementation of proactive and multi-dimensional strategy, “which is yielding remarkable results, just as it has largely defeated the Boko

Haram insurgency.”

23-year old rape victim sets herself ablaze

A 23-year-old rape victim, who set herself on fire outside the office of Superintendent of Police (SP) in Unnao, India on December 16, has died in a Kanpur hospital.

According to India Today, the deceased had alleged that the police were not acting on her complaint against an accused rapist, Avadesh Singh.  Therefore, in protest, she reached the SP office in Unnao on December 16 and poured kerosene on herself and set herself on fire, walking into the office in flames.

She died on Saturday night. She claimed that he had promised to marry her, but was now refusing to acknowledge the relationship. A case of rape was registered against Avadesh Singh, but the latter had obtained anticipatory bail from the court.

The police had filed the charge sheet against the accused. The cops immediately doused the flames and took the woman to the district hospital from where she was referred to the Lal Lajpat Rai hospital in Kanpur. She suffered 70 per cent burns.

The doctors said she developed swelling in her abdomen and respiratory organs, and had been put on a ventilator since Saturday morning. According to SP Unnao Vikrant Veer, the woman was in a relationship with the accused for several years.  She had lodged a complaint against him on October 2 , accusing him of having sexually exploited her.

British Army seeking to recruit more soldiers with the help of Kim Kardashian’s massive backside

The British Army have reportedly revealed a strategic plan they will use to recruit more soldiers.

According to Daily Mail, the military chiefs are seeking to recruit more soldiers with the help of American reality star, Kim Kardashian’s massive backside.

On Sunday, December 22, the publication revealed that the concept behind the Army’s new advertising campaign is that serving in the Armed Forces instills greater confidence than receiving ‘likes’ on social media.

They added that 'the message will be underlined with the use of a mock-up of the American TV star’s famous derriere which has helped her to build an Instagram following of 154 million.'

It was also revealed that The ‘Belonging 2020: Army Confidence’ campaign, which will be unveiled next month, will involve a TV, poster and social media blitz.

A defence source told Daily Mail: ‘The new adverts will build on the success of the Snowflake campaign and send a strong message to youngsters that the Army builds confidence which lasts a lifetime – not just for that moment when you see that people have liked your picture or given you a thumbs up online.

‘That sort of thing breeds neurosis whereas we take young people and build them up, and once they’re trained, they stay up. You can’t beat the emotional benefits of an Army career.’ At a time when many people judge their popularity by the response to their social media activity, Army recruiters are now seeking to persuade youngsters, particularly those aged 16 to 25, to redefine what they regard as success.

Last year, the British Army sparked controversy with a controversial ‘snowflakes’ campaign poster to persuade people to join the army. The £1.5 million campaign was a success, with a 46 percent rise in online applications and the highest number of recruits starting basic training for ten years, according to Mail Online.

The New War Against Africa’s Christians - Wall Street Journal
User Avatar Forum: News
Posted by: Edoman - 12-22-2019, 12:03 PM - No Replies

Quote:A slow-motion war is under way in Africa’s most populous country. It’s a massacre of Christians, massive in scale and horrific in brutality. And the world has hardly noticed.

A Nigerian Pentecostal Christian, director of a nongovernmental organization that works for mutual understanding between Nigeria’s Christians and Muslims, alerted me to it. “Have you heard of the Fulani?” he asked at our first meeting, in Paris, speaking the flawless, melodious English of the Nigerian elite. The Fulani are an ethnic group, generally described as shepherds from mostly Muslim Northern Nigeria, forced by climate change to move with their herds toward the more temperate Christian South. They number 14 million to 15 million in a nation of 191 million.

Among them is a violent element. “They are Islamic extremists of a new stripe,” the NGO director said, “more or less linked with Boko Haram,” the sect that became infamous for the 2014 kidnapping of 276 Christian girls in the state of Borno. “I beg you,” he said, “come and see for yourself.” Knowing of Boko Haram but nothing of the Fulani, I accept.

The 2019 Global Terrorism Index estimates that Fulani extremists have become deadlier than Boko Haram and accounted for the majority of the country’s 2,040 documented terrorist fatalities in 2018. To learn more about them, I travel to Godogodo, in the center of the country, where I meet a beautiful woman named Jumai Victor, 28. On July 15, she says, Fulani extremists stormed into her village on long-saddle motorcycles, three to a bike, shouting “Allahu Akbar!” They torched houses and killed her four children before her eyes.

When her turn came and they noticed she was pregnant, a discussion ensued. Some didn’t want to see her belly slit, so they compromised by cutting up and amputating her left arm with a machete. She speaks quickly and emotionlessly, staring into space as if she lost her face along with her arm. The village chief, translating for her, chokes up. Tears stream down his cheeks when she finishes her account.

I venture north to Adnan, where Lyndia David, 34, tells her story of survival. On the morning of March 15, rumors reached her village that Fulani raiders were nearby. She was dressing for church as her husband prepared to join a group of men who’d stand watch. He urged her to take refuge at her sister’s home in another village.

Her first night there, sentinels woke her with a whistle. She left the house to find flames spreading around her. Fulani surrounded her. Then she heard a voice: “Come this way, you can get through!” She did, and her putative savior leapt out of the underbrush, cut three fingers off her right hand, carved the nape of her neck with his machete, shot her, doused her body with gasoline, and lit it. She somehow survived. A few weeks later she returned to her village and learned that the raiders had leveled it the same night. Her husband was among the 72 they murdered.

The Christian Middle Belt is a land of blooming prairies that once delighted English colonizers. On the outskirts of Jos, capital of Plateau state, I visit the ruins of a burned-down church. I spot another, intact. A man emerges to yell at me in English that I don’t belong there. Stalling, I learn that he is Turkish, a member of a “religious mutual assistance group” that is opening madrassas for the daughters of Fulani.

That day I crisscross the Middle Belt. Roads are crumbled, bridges collapsed; destroyed houses cast broken shadows over tree stumps and trails of black ash and blood. Maize rots in the abandoned fields. The local Christians have been killed or are too terrorized to come out and harvest it. In the distance are clusters of white smudges—the Fulani herds grazing on the lush grass. When we approach, the armed shepherds wave us off.

The Anglican bishop of Jos, Benjamin Kwashi, has had his livestock stolen three times. During the third raid he was dragged into his room, a gun to his head. He dropped to his knees and prayed at the top of his voice until the thrumming of a helicopter drove his assailants off.

Bishop Kwashi describes the Fulani extremists’ pattern: They usually arrive at night. They are barefoot, so you can’t hear them coming unless they’re on motorcycle. Sometimes a dog sounds the alert, sometimes a sentinel. Then a terrifying stampede, whirling clouds of dust, cries of encouragement from the invaders. Before villagers can take shelter or flee, the invaders are upon them in their houses, swinging machetes, burning, pillaging, raping. They don’t kill everyone. At some point they stop, recite a verse from the Quran, round up the livestock and retreat. They need survivors to spread fear from village to village, to bear witness that the Fulani raiders fear nothing but Allah and are capable of anything.

The heads of 17 Christian communities have come to the outskirts of Abuja, Nigeria’s federal capital, to meet me in a nondescript compound. Some have traveled for days in packed buses or minivans. Each arrives accompanied by a victim or two.

Here they are, an exhausted yet earnestly hopeful group of some 40 women and men, keenly aware of the moment’s gravity. One carries a USB key, another a handwritten account, a third a folder full of photos, captioned and dated. I accept these records, overwhelmed by the weight of the bearers’ hope that the world will recognize the horrors they experienced.

Taking the floor in turn, the survivors confirm the modus operandi Bishop Kwashi described, each adding an awful detail. The mutilated cadavers of women. A mute man commanded to deny his faith, then cut up with a machete until he screams. A girl strangled with the chain of her crucifix.

Westerners here depict the Fulani extremists as an extended, rampant Boko Haram. An American humanitarian says the Fulani recruit volunteers to serve internships in Borno State, where Boko Haram is active. Another says Boko Haram “instructors” have been spotted in Bauchi, another northeastern state, where they are teaching elite Fulani militants to handle more-sophisticated weapons that will replace their machetes. Yet whereas Boko Haram are confined to perhaps 5% of Nigerian territory, the Fulani terrorists operate across the country.

Villagers west of Jos show the weapons they use to defend themselves: bows, slings, daggers, sticks, leather whips, spears. Even these meager arms have to be concealed. When the army comes through after the attacks, soldiers tell the villagers their paltry weapons are illegal and confiscate them.

Several times I note the proximity of a military base that might have been expected to protect civilians. But the soldiers didn’t come; or, if they did, it was only after the battle; or they claimed not to have received the texted SOS calls in time, or not to have had orders to respond, or to have been delayed on an impassable road.

“What do you expect?” our driver asks as we take off in a convoy for his burned-down church. “The army is in league with the Fulani. They go hand in hand.” After one attack, “we even found a dog tag and a uniform.”

“It’s hardly surprising,” says Dalyop Salomon Mwantiri, one of the few lawyers in the region who dare to represent victims. “The general staff of the Nigerian army is a Fulani. The whole bureaucracy is Fulani.”

So is President Muhammadu Buhari. In April 2016 Mr. Buhari ordered security forces to “secure all communities under attack by herdsmen.” In July 2019 a spokesman for the president said in a statement: “No one has the right to ask anyone or group to depart from any part of the country, whether North, South, East or West.”

Most Christians I meet express disgust at the vague language suggesting culpability on both sides. Their stories tend to validate claims of the government’s complicity. In Riyom district, three displaced Nigerians and a soldier were gunned down this June as they attempted to return home. The villagers know the assailants. Police identified them. Everyone knows they took refuge in a nearby village. But there they are under the protection of the ardos, a local emir. No arrests occurred.

Village chief Sunday Abdu recounts another example, a 2017 attack on Nkiedonwhro. This time the military came to warn villagers of a threat. They ordered the women and children to take shelter in a school. But after the civilians complied, a soldier fired a shot in the air. A second shot sounded in the distance, seemingly in response. Minutes later, after the soldiers had departed, the assailants appeared, went directly to the classroom, and fired into the cowering group, killing 27.

I also meet some Fulani—the first time by chance. Traveling by road near a river bed, we come on a checkpoint consisting of a rope stretched across the road, a hut and two armed men. “No passage,” says one, wearing a jacket on which are sewn badges in Arabic and Turkish. “This is Fulani land, the holy land of Usman dan Fodio, our king—and you whites can’t come in.” The conquests of dan Fodio (1754-1817) led to the establishment of the Sokoto Caliphate over the Fula and Hausa lands.

The second encounter is on the outskirts of Abuja. Driving toward the countryside, we reach a village unlike the others we’ve seen in the Christian zone. There’s a ditch, and behind it a hedge of bushes and pilings. The place seems closed off from the world. From huts emerge a swarm of children and their mothers, the women covered from head to foot.

It’s a village of Fulani nomads who carried out a tiny, localized Fulanization after the Christians cleared out. “What are you doing here?” demands an adolescent boy wearing a T-shirt adorned with a swastika. “Are you taking advantage of the fact that it’s Friday, and we’re in the mosque, to come spy on our women? The Quran forbids that!” When I ask if wearing a swastika isn’t also contrary to the Quran, he looks puzzled, then launches into a feverish tirade. He says he knows he’s wearing “a German insignia,” but he believes that “all men are brothers,” except for the “bad souls” who “hate Muslims.”

Later I encounter Fulani near Lagos, Nigeria’s largest city, which is in the south on the Gulf of Guinea. North of the city is an open-air market where Fulani sell their livestock. I am with three young Christians, survivors of a Middle Belt massacre who live in a camp for displaced persons. They pretend to be cousins buying an animal for a family feast. As they negotiate over a white-horned pygmy goat, I look for Fulani willing to talk.

Most have come from Jigawa state, on the border with Niger, crossing the country south in trucks to bring their stock here. Although I learn little about their trip, they eagerly express their joy in being here, on the border of this contemptible promised land, where they expect to “dip the Quran in the sea.”

There are “too many Christians in Lagos,” says Abadallah, who looks to be in his 40s. “The Christians are dogs and children of dogs. You say Christians. To us they are traitors. They adopted the religion of the whites. There is no place here for friends of the whites, who are impure.” A postcard vendor joins the group and offers me portraits of Osama bin Laden and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. He agrees the Christians will eventually leave and Nigeria will be “free.”

Some professional disinformers will try to reduce the violence here to one of the “interethnic wars” that inflame Africa. They’ll likely find, here and there, acts of reprisal against the Fula and Hausa. But as my trip concludes, I have the terrible feeling of being carried back to Rwanda in the 1990s, to Darfur and South Sudan in the 2000s.

Will the West let history repeat itself in Nigeria? Will we wait, as usual, until the disaster is done before taking notice? Will we stand by as international Islamic extremism opens a new front across this vast land, where the children of Abraham have coexisted for so long?

A former waitress has graduated with a First Class Degree, years after media personality Temisan Okomi paid her SSCE and JAMB fees.

Recounting their encounter, Temisan disclosed that the girl who graduated with a First Class in Physiology was 17 when she was working at the drinking joint where "pervy old men" turned up for drinks. He further disclosed that they lost contact but reunited after the girl's mother found his contact card.

Colonialism was grave mistake - President Emmanuel Macron

President Emmanuel Macron of France on Saturday December 20, declared that colonialism was a "grave mistake" and a "serious fault" made by the French Republic.

The French President who spoke during a visit to Ivory Coast, a former French colony in West Africa said he hopes "a new page" of the story could be written.

Macron said;

Quote:"Too often, France is perceived as taking a supremacy stance and to dress itself in the rags of colonialism, which has been a grave mistake, a serious fault of the Republic"

This is however not the first time the French President will be expressing his views about colonialism. During his election campaign for presidency, Macron created a storm by calling France’s colonisation of Algeria a “crime against humanity”.

How Ajimobi awarded dubious contracts and padded the state budget – Governor Seyi Makinde

Governor Oluseyi Makinde of Oyo State on December 21, 2019 painted a picture of the alleged corrupt practices that characterised the administration of his predecessor, Senator Abiola Ajimobi of the All Progressive Congress, APC, in the management of the affairs of the state.

Makinde alleged that the era of the immediate past administration was characterised by corruption, budget padding, mismanagement of funds, kickback syndrome, inflation of contracts’ fees, lop-sidedness in projects management, award of contracts only to their cronies and re-awarding of projects at double price, among others.

He made this sttement on a live programme of the Oyo State Broadcasting Corporation of Oyo State tagged ‘Live chat with GSM, a quarterly session with the Oyo State Governor’.  He said;

Quote:“If I should talk about the finances of Oyo State as at the time we came on board, some people will not be able to walk on the streets. Up till date, we have not bought vehicles for the office holders. If we are to buy official vehicles for myself and other office holders, we will not spend less than N3 billion and we cannot afford that now. Up till today, I am still using my personal cars in office.

“Our priority is to the people. We prioritise what we can do to the people who gave the opportunity to serve them over ourselves. We don’t want to serve ourselves. On May 6, 2019, three weeks to take over, the last administration withdrew N5.2 billion and spent it to remain N19, 000 by May 29. Soon, those involve will have to explain how they spent the money on the people.

“When I resumed, I was scared. The government was running 67 banks accounts. So I asked for all the balances of the accounts. A particular account has N300 million, and another has N20 million. I asked the accountant general to prune the accounts down and put all the money in one account and which came to about N6 billion.”

“When we assumed office, some people came to me and said that this is how they shared money. I said don’t share the money to me. Let us use it to better the lives of the people of the state. IGR has gone up a bit because we have blocked loopholes. Let me also reveal this. We did not spend government money on those Christmas decorations that you see everywhere. Normally, at the end of the year, people and corporate organisations give gifts to the governor.

“So, when they came, I called my people and told them that these gifts should be channelled towards beautifying the state instead. So, we used the gifts to do those Christmas decorations that you are seeing. If we continue to be prudent, all will be well and things will go round. It is because we cut off the wastage, that is why we are able to do some of the things are doing”.

For first time in 200 years, there'll be no Christmas mass at Paris’s Notre Dame Cathedral

French officials have confirmed that Notre-Dame cathedral in Paris will miss its first Christmas mass since 1803 as workers continue to repair and rebuild the landmark eight months after a devastating fire.

The cathedral’s press office said midnight mass would still be celebrated on Christmas Eve by rector Patrick Chauvet but it would be held at the nearby church of Saint-Germain l’Auxerrois.

Notre-Dame, part of a UNESCO world heritage site on the banks of the River Seine, was ravaged by the April 15 blaze losing its gothic spire, roof and many precious artefacts.

The building had remained open for Christmas through two centuries of often tumultuous history including the Nazi occupation in World War II being forced to close only during the anti-Catholic revolutionary period in the late 18th and early 19th centuries.

President Emmanuel Macron has set a timetable of five years to completely repair the eight-centuries-old structure, which remains shrouded in scaffolding with a vast crane looming over it.

Paris prosecutors suspect criminal negligence and opened an investigation in June, suggesting a stray cigarette butt or an electrical fault could have caused the fire. The culture ministry said in October that nearly one billion euros ($1.1 billion) had been pledged or raised for the reconstruction.

RHAPSODY OF REALITIES

SUNDAY, 22ND DECEMBER.

BORN ANEW INTO CHRIST

Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new (2 Corinthians 5:17).

When you were born again, you were born and baptized into Christ.1 Corinthians 12:13 says, “For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body…”; you were baptized into the body of Christ, a new man, a new creature with a new life.

The King James Version uses the word, “creature” which is a lot more accurate than the word, “creation” as used in some other translations. Being a “new creature” means you’re one of a kind; a peculiar breed. But that’s not all; the latter part of our opening scripture says, “…old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.”

The underlined word, “behold” calls attention to something God wants you to notice, an important truth. He wants you to SEE that, indeed, you’re a new man in Christ Jesus; everything about your life is new and divine. The old life and nature you received from your biological parents are now supplanted by God’s divine nature, which is why Peter calls us “comrades” or “associates” of the God-kind (2 Peter 1:4).

It wasn’t just a mere change that took place in you when you were born again; there was an actual replacement of the human life with the indestructible life of God. You have the same life with which Jesus was raised from the dead: the resurrection life.

This is what makes it so sublime! It’s the reason sickness for the Christian isn’t supposed to be, because the life in you is divine. Even if you were born with a hereditary disease, the Bible says, “Old things are passed away!” That sickness or disease isn’t, and could never be, a part of your new nature in Christ. The old nature that was subject to sin, defeat, sickness, failure and death, is dead and gone! All things have become new, and all these new things are of God (2 Corinthians 5:18).

Everything about your life carries divinity in it, because you were born into a divine environment; the Christ-environment. Blessed be God!

PRAYER

Being born again, I’m born into the Christ-environment, the divine environment, where I sit with Christ in the realms of glory, dominion and power. I walk in the light of my righteousness and new nature in Christ, expressing the beauty, glory and graces of divinity, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.

#AFFIRMATIONTRAIN

22ND DECEMBER.

I affirm that I am in God’s place for my life! The Spirit of God has enlightened the eyes of my understanding through the Word, to see and receive every good thing that belongs to me in Christ Jesus. As I see them, I call them real and walk in the reality of God’s manifold and eternal blessings.

Fear has no place in me; for God has not given me the spirit of fear but of love, power and of a sound mind. I am bold to act my faith; I function with the ability of the spirit today for the Spirit of God is working in my life and causing me to have divine courage and confidence.

I live joyfully today and always, knowing fully well that all of God’s promises to me in Christ Jesus are yes and amen; I am living in the realities of my inheritance in Christ. Christ dwells in my heart by faith, and I am rooted and grounded in love. God’s Word is in my heart and in my mouth; and as

I think and meditate on the Word today, the circumstances of my day align with the will and purpose of God for me! I attract myself only to thoughts that are consistent with my destiny in Christ-thoughts of victory, increase, success, health, and strength.

I am fully aware that the quality of life that I live is based on the faith-filled words that I utter. I hold fast to the profession of faith without wavering, therefore, I declare that my life, health, family and finances are consistent with God’s Word. Glory to God. Hallelujah!

God bless you

Enhanced Keto weight loss using hypnosis or a hypnosis weight loss CD. There are three main reasons for this. The first main reason is that people do not expect this to be effective. It is for this reason that most people are surprised and often inspired by the fact that it works. Many people feel that weight loss through hypnosis is somehow strange and they don't want to think it can be useful. Much of this comes from incorrect information. There are many people in the competitive weight loss industry who are trying to refute various weight loss treatments. These people, as a rule, try to promote their own product and,

U.S Government places Nigeria on ‘Special Watch List (SWL)’ of countries that tolerate religious persecution

Nigeria has been added to a “Special Watch List (SWL)” of countries that have engaged in or tolerated “severe violations of religious freedom" by the United States government.

The West African Country was added to the SWL following the 2018 report of the United States Commission for International Religious Freedom (USCIRF) which recommended designation of Nigeria as a Country of Particular Concern (CPC).

Some of the cases cited in the USCIRF 2018 report include violation of rights of Shi’a members of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN) and violent clashes in Middle-Belt states.

The 2018 report partly reads;

Quote:“Religious freedom conditions in Nigeria trended negatively in 2018. The Nigerian government at the national and state levels continued to tolerate violence and discrimination on the basis of religion or belief, and suppressed the freedom to manifest religion or belief.
"Religious sectarian violence increased during the year, with Muslims and Christians attacked based on their religious and ethnic identity.
“The Nigerian military and government continued to violate the religious freedom and human rights of the Shi’a members of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN). IMN leader Sheikh Ibrahim Al Zak Zaky remained in detention.
“However, in 12 Muslim-majority northern Nigerian states, federalism has allowed the adoption of Islamic Shari’ah law in the criminal codes. The Nigerian constitution also establishes the roles of customary law and Shari’ah courts for Islamic personal law, family”.

Making announcement of Nigeria being added to the SWL, U.S Secretary of State Mike Pompeo also disclosed that  al-Nusra Front, al-Qa’ida in the Arabian Peninsula, al-Qa’ida, al-Shabab, Boko Haram, the Houthis, ISIS, ISIS-Khorasan, and the Taliban have been designated as Entities of Particular Concern.

He said;

Quote:“On December 18, 2019, the Department of State re-designated Burma, China, Eritrea, Iran, North Korea, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Tajikistan, and Turkmenistan as Countries of Particular Concern under the International Religious Freedom Act of 1998 for having engaged in or tolerated “systematic, ongoing, [and] egregious violations of religious freedom.
“The Department renewed the placement of Comoros, Russia, and Uzbekistan on a Special Watch List (SWL) for governments that have engaged in or tolerated “severe violations of religious freedom,” and added Cuba, Nicaragua, Nigeria, and Sudan to this list.”

Confirming the unfortunate incident, the FCT Police command spokesperson, Maryam Yusuf, said the matter is being investigated.

NDDC: How Akpabio Moved Against Oshiomhole, Sylva, Omo-Agege
User Avatar Forum: News
Posted by: Edoman - 12-21-2019, 04:43 PM - No Replies

Quote:The battle for the control of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) took a dramatic turn during the week with President Muhammadu Buhari allegedly jettisoning the nominees whose names were confirmed by the Senate on October 29 for the board of the commission.

The Senate-approved board whose members had been waiting to be inaugurated by the President, was constituted with inputs from Niger Delta leaders, including the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Comrade Adams Oshiomhole; the Deputy Senate President, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege; former Bayelsa State governor, Niger Delta minister Senator Goodwill Akpabio and Chief Timipre Sylva, according to The Nation investigation.

As earlier reported by this paper, some Presidency officials had told Senator Omo-Agege, who is said to be very close to the Villa, that President Buhari needed upright and competent people to run the affairs of the NDDC because he believed that the huge sums hitherto pumped into the commission had not been well utilised by its managers.

It was on the foregoing basis that the President called for forensic audit of the commission when the governors of the states that make up the NCDC, led by Governor Seriake Dickson of Bayelsa State, paid him a courtesy visit at the Presidential Villa in October.

Senator Omo-Agege, however, felt that it would not be fair for him to nominate the commission’s members without inputs from other Niger Delta leaders. He therefore contacted Oshiomhole, Sylva, Akpabio and some other Niger Delta leaders who nominated a name each.

The battle for Commission’s key positions
With members of the Commission’s board nominated, the bone of contention became whose candidate would occupy the key positions in the board, particularly the chairman and the managing director.

As it turned out, the nomination of Dr. Pius Odubu and Bernard Okumagba, the candidates of Oshiomhole and Omo-Agege as nominees for the chairman and managing director positions on the board did not go down well with Akpabio, who felt that as the Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, his candidate deserved to occupy one of the two positions.

Rather than engage Oshiomhole and Omo-Agege in a confrontation, Akpabio decided to play a fast one by announcing the appointment of a three-man interim management committee to manage the affairs of the commission while the newly constituted board awaited confirmation by the Senate.

Asked what would happen to the new board when confirmed by the Senate, Akpabio said they would have to wait to be sworn in after the interim management committee’s work was done.

Realising how dear Buhari holds the idea of forensic audit to heart, Akpabio also moved quickly to declare that his interim management committee would oversee the forensic audit ordered by the President.

Akpabio’s joker

To further win Buhari’s heart, Akpabio was said to have demanded from his interim management committee details of how the former managers of the commission ruined the place.

He was then said to have found his way into the Presidential Villa and paraded the details before Buhari.

While President Buhari nodded in approval of Akpabio’s professed disposition to forensic audit of NDDC, the Acting Managing Director of NDDC , Gboene Nunieh and member of her interim management board, announced the suspension of the Commission’s monthly payment of N1 billion to a consultant whose job with NDDC was merely to collect money from international oil companies (IOCs) on its behalf.

Speaking with reporters at the NDDC headquarters in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, Nunieh said the commission did not need middlemen to collect statutory funds due to it.

She said: “We have a consulting firm engaged as a collection agent. We have another company that also collects three per cent whenever money is paid by the International Oil Companies.

“We don’t need a middle man to collect three percent for gas. The money should just be paid into NDDC accounts with the CBN.“That is why I have suspended the contract of a collection agent. We are no longer going to pay anyone N1 billion every month. That is wicked.

“That money can put mono pumps in rural communities in the Niger Delta. It can buy books and set up primary health centres. The three per cent for a consulting firm is over.”The acting MD said things were beginning to look up as many contractors have gone back to site since she took charge.

She said: “We have about 57 contractors that have gone back to site. I am encouraging everyone to go back to site so that things will be done properly. Those that actually execute their contracts will be paid.

“No big contractors. We will get the locals who are plumbers to get the mono-pumps to work.We are going to take development to the people and that is why you no longer see the young men hanging around our gates.
“We have asked them to go back to their communities and we will meet them there.”

Amaechi’s men lose out in battle of wits, fight back

Former Rivers State governor and Minister of Transportation, Hon. Chibuke Rotimi Amaechi, is said not to be happy about the goings on at the commission because the dissolved board of the commission headed by the former Managing Director Nsima Okere, was his brainchild.

Apparently disappointed that the former governor has been sidelined, his people are said to be compiling dossiers on Akpabio’s people who allegedly got contracts in billions but did not execute them. They are alleging that Akpabio’s people have been major players in the commission since it was set up about 18 years ago.

They are claiming that as Akwa Ibom governor, Akpabio nominated a chairman, a managing director and several state representatives to the NDDC board between 2007 and 2015. “How did they run the place?” they asked.
In their view,” the people there now should be sacked as well for a thorough forensic job to be done. ”

“The President means well for the Niger Delta. He should get an international firm of auditors to look into the books of the commission. What will be unearthed will shock Nigerians,” a leading politician from the region said in Abuja.

Ibrahim Ajayi Allah, a 65-year-old ex-staff of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) was reportedly killed in his farm by his worker.

The deceased who was killed on December 13 by one of the workers at his farm in Oke-Oyi, outskirts of Ilorin, retired from the finance department of the NNPC.

The deceased's younger brother Yakub Abejide Allah who confirmed his death, said;

Quote:“My elder brother was murdered on December 13th on his farm site in Oke-Oyi area of Ilorin East local government area of the state.
“Three years ago, he retired and chose to pursue agriculture which has always been his passion. He bought hectares of land in Ogidi, Kabba/Bunu local government area of Kogi State and poured all his passion into it. However, because of so many unanticipated factors, the returns were not as expected.
“About six months ago, he decided to gradually move out of Ogidi. So he bought about eight hectares of land at Oke-Oyi near Ilorin and restarted his farming there.
“The suspect picked up by the police is a man from that community with whom he had developed a close relationship. He was always going in and out with the man. In fact, on the day of the murder, they were said to be together and had lunch together before he was savagely axed to death at about 5pm.
“When the police searched the suspect’s house, they found my brother’s phone and other personal effects. He is said to have confessed to having killed my brother.
“I felt so bad when I heard the news of my brother’s gruesome killing. It was the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in charge of Oke-Oyi Police Station that narrated how my brother was hacked to death.
“Subsequently, I called his wife and our other family members and broke the sad news to them. The police said they have arrested the alleged perpetrator of the heinous crime. According to them, he was initially detained at the Oke-Oyi police station before being transferred to the state Criminal Investigations Department (CID) in Ilorin.
“We learnt that during a search in his house the late Ibrahim’s phones, personal effects as well as other dangerous items the perpetrator used to kill my brother were found there.”

Wife of the deceased said she became worried when she did not get the usual morning call from her husband. She told TheCable;

Quote:“He usually calls me in the morning. He called me on Friday morning. When I didn’t get his call on Saturday morning, I called his lines and none were reachable. Later, one rang and someone picked it and said my husband had an accident and that his phone was with the police and they asked me to come there. I linked them to my husband’s brother in Ilorin before I arrived there.
“By the time I got there, it was already 8pm and I was told he was in the hospital. When I asked to see him, that was when my husband’s brother told me that he was dead.
“A farmer suspected something and called the local vigilante group who reported to the police.  When the police came, they saw his car and his phone. That was how I was able to call his number.
“I saw the suspect, his name is Waheed. He actually confessed to committing the crime. I asked him what my husband did to him and he said nothing, that he did not know what came over him. He said my husband used to help him and even promised to buy him a car,” she said.
“He (the deceased) used to squat with the suspect because he is new there. He just arrived six months ago. They used to stay together and go to the farm together until he got his own apartment two months ago. A machete stained with my husband’s blood and his phone were found in his house. He also had wounds on his body and that was how they knew that he was the one who killed him.
“The Oke-Oyi police said they were going to transfer the case to a bigger police station. They had already brought the documents when I was there but since then, I have not heard anything. He has already confessed that he killed my husband and I just want justice. It may be that there are other people involved in the killing.
“I asked for my husband’s body because it was already decomposing and we buried him on Monday.”

Also confirming the death of the deceased, spokesman of the Kwara police command said the suspect has been arrested and investigation is still ongoing.

He said;

Quote:"Yes, I am aware of that incident. We have a suspect arrested already and intensive investigation is going on. At the appropriate time, people will be informed of the outcome of our investigation"

Messaging service WhatsApp will stop working on millions of phones in the next few months, as the company withdraws support from older devices.

From February 1, 2020, any iPhone running iOS 8 will no longer be supported (and users are already unable to create or verify their accounts on these devices).

On the same date, Android devices running version 2.3.7 or older will have support withdrawn.

From December 31, all Windows phone users will be unable to use Whatsapp.

Facebook, owner of WhatsApp, said in a blog post: ‘WhatsApp will stop working on millions of phones in the next couple of months as the company withdraws support for some older mobile platforms.

‘From February 1, 2020, any iPhone running iOS 8 or older will no longer be supported, along with any Android device running version 2.3.7 or older.

‘Users of these operating systems are already unable to create new WhatsApp accounts or re-verify existing accounts.

‘Furthermore, WhatsApp is withdrawing support for all Windows phones from December 31, 2019 — the same month that Microsoft ends support of its Windows 10 Mobile OS.’

Facebook bought Instagram in 2012 for $1 billion and WhatsApp in 2014 for $19 billion, and the two form part of the 'Facebook family of apps' alongside the main Facebook app and Messenger.

Earlier this year, Facebook announced plans to integrate its messaging apps more closely, alongside a move towards end-to-end encryption across its services.

At the time, Facebook founder and chief executive Mark Zuckerberg said the plans were part of an effort 'to make it easier to reach friends and family across networks'.
