[color=var(--atc)]Against varsity’s pronouncement, ICPC clears embattled FIIRO DG’s PhD

  • We have yet to issue him a PhD, Benin varsity insists
  • FIIRO Law: Only PhD holders can be senior officers

Samson Folarin
The Independent Corrupt Practices and other Related Offences Commission has said the acting Director General of the Federal Institute of Industrial Research, Oshodi, Dr Chima Igwe, obtained a PhD certificate from the Universite D’Abomey Calavi, Benin Republic.
The spokesperson for the ICPC, Mrs Rasheedat Okoduwa, told our correspondent that the team investigating Igwe cleared him of wrongdoing.

Documents obtained by The PUNCH revealed that the ICPC had already communicated this decision to the Ministry of Science and Technology, the ministry supervising the institute.
Following the ICPC’s clearance, the ministry also wrote the governing board of FIIRO, saying Igwe had a PhD certificate.
Investigation by our correspondent revealed that there might be a grand plot to cover up the fraudulent doctorate, as officers of the Benin Republic varsity told The PUNCH it never told the Nigerian authorities that Igwe graduated.

The PUNCH had in September 2019 reported that Igwe, more than 17 years after claiming to have bagged a doctorate at Universite d’Abomey-Calavi, could not produce a certificate to back his claim.
The 57-year-old was said to have been promoted several times based on a letter of attestation suggesting he attended the school.
The issue had become contentious when the tenure of the immediate past DG, Prof.Gloria Elemo, elapsed and there was the need for a new head for the institute.

The governing board shortlisted Igwe for the position because he was the most senior officer in accordance with civil service rules, until it was discovered that there was no PhD certificate in his file.
Several ultimatums given to him to go to the school and get the certificate ended without a result, as the board also discovered that the issue had become a subject of investigation by the ICPC.
The Chairman of the Governing Board, Alhaji Ibrahim Gwarzo, subsequently wrote the Minister of Science and Technology, Dr Ogbonnaya Onu, stating the failure of Igwe to produce his PhD certificate.

He sought approval for the next most senior official to head the agency in acting capacity pending the appointment of a substantive DG.
Onu, however, declined the request and insisted that Igwe be appointed the acting DG.
After weeks of waiting without any response from ICPC on the outcome of its investigation, The PUNCH correspondent visited Universite d’Abomey-Calavi in August 2019.
The Deputy Director of the Doctoral School of Pure and Applied Sciences, Prof. Valentine Wotto, who issued the attestation letter which Igwe had been parading as proof of his doctorate, told our correspondent that the acting DG did not complete his studies.

He spoke on the record in French. Wotto, however, said Igwe had contacted the school and demand that he continue his studies.

The ICPC, while refusing to comment at the time, promised to make its findings public.
The agency’s spokeswoman, Okoduwa, later told The PUNCH that Igwe completed the doctoral programme.
“Yes, he has the certificate. It is genuine,” she told our correspondent on the telephone.

Okoduwa explained that the ICPC had a letter from the school to that effect.
The FIIRO spokesman, Chris Olumuyiwa, and the spokesperson for the Ministry of Science and Technology, Abdulganiyu Aminu, refused to respond to enquiries from our correspondent on the clearance of Igwe.
A top official of FIIRO, who did not want to be quoted, confirmed the development, adding that the ministry had written to the agency.
“We have received a letter from the ministry that he has been cleared. That is what he (Igwe) has been looking for; to get the ICPC to give him a clean bill of health.

With this, the FIIRO board will be overruled. Igwe has been travelling to Abuja for weeks now and at a point, it was like he got a place to stay there. I don’t understand how attending a school equates to graduating from it. This man does not have a certificate and he was cleared,” the source added.
ICPC confirms non-existent certificate
[Image: Onu-ICPC-Chairman-Bolaji-Owasanoye.jpg]Onu and ICPC Chairman, Bolaji Owasanoye

Igwe has been using a letter of attestation of registration written by Wotto as proof of his graduation from Abomey Calavi, as he had no certificate from the school.

However, documents issued by the ICPC and the Federal Ministry of Science and Technology clearing Igwe said he obtained a “PhD certificate”.

The ICPC letter, dated September 11, 2019, and addressed to the Minister of Science and Technology, was titled, ‘Re: Appointment of an acting director-general, Federal Institute of Industrial Research Oshodi with a claimed and unsubstantiated PhD certificate.’

The letter, signed by the agency’s Chairman, Prof. Bolaji Owasanoye, indicated that the commission in its findings discovered that “Dr Chima Igwe attended and obtained a PhD certificate from University D’Abomey Calavi Republic of Benin….”  “Consequently, allegation that he forged his PhD certificate was not substantiated as it is found that he obtained all his certificates in accordance with laid procedure,” it added.

The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Science and Technology, Bitrus Nabasu, based on the ICPC letter, wrote to the chairman of the FIIRO board in a letter dated October 14, 2019.

Nabasu in the letter said despite the various “petitions, inquiries and news publications” on the controversial PhD, the ICPC had concluded that Igwe had a PhD certificate.

The cover-up

Findings by our correspondent revealed that the letter sent to Abomey-Calavi did not ask if Igwe graduated from the school.
A source said the letter only requested if Igwe attended the school and the varsity replied in the affirmative.

However, nowhere did the school state that Igwe graduate, a reason for which he had not been issued a certificate.
An official of the ICPC disclosed that the letter was actually drafted by the Ministry of Education and the anti-corruption agency was only copied.
The official asked to be given two weeks for the ICPC to re-write the letter and send to Abomey-Calavi for another reply.
Two months after, there had not been any feedback.

Workers protest certificate scandal
[Image: The-documents.jpg]The documents
The PUNCH learnt that there was tension in FIIRO about two weeks ago when some workers of the institute, under the aegis of the Non-Academic Staff Union, staged a protest on the premises against Igwe and the agency management.

The workers, while demanding a review of their welfare, promotion and placement, asked the acting DG to stop damaging the reputation of the institute over his questionable doctorate claim.

They also sang solidarity songs and stood at the entrance to the DG’s office.

Several clips of the protest, obtained by our correspondent, showed the workers displaying different placards, including, ‘Certificate saga, explain,’ and ‘Issuance of pay slips to our members monthly.’

The leader of the protesters urged them not to vandalise any property, saying, “We are not destroying any property, because the property of FIIRO is our property.”

“And we are not students. Students can vandalise their property, they will leave the school after four years, but we will still be here for long time,’ a man among the protesters added.

Our correspondent learnt that the chairman of the FIIRO board, Gwarzo, later addressed the workers and called for calm.

“Igwe had been avoiding our general secretary for a long time. Every effort to see him on the certificate matter and other union issues has been abortive. We decided to stage the protest to force answers,” a source told The PUNCH.

Asked what the management said about the certificate issue, he said they were only told that Igwe had been cleared by the ministry.

FIIRO law: Only PhD holders can be chief research officers Organogram Chief Research Officer, Principal Research Officer
Information on the FIIRO website indicated that the institute was established in 1956 as a parastatal under the Ministry of Science and Technology.

It is a research agency with the core mandate of accelerating industrialisation. Aside from being under the public service, workers in research institutes across the country are governed by the scheme of service specifying methods of entry and advancement within the cadre.

According to the scheme of service document obtained by The PUNCH, no one could be appointed a Chief Research Officer without a PhD.

The rule 3.5.1 stated that a principal research Officer, HATISS II, could become a Chief Research Officer if he has obtained a relevant PhD and spent at least three years on the grade and made at least seven reputable publications with eight conference/seminar papers.

Rule 3.5.2 stated that someone could be directly appointed a Chief Research Officer if he had a PhD with at least six post-qualification cognate experience with at least eight reputable journal publications, among others.

The two higher positions that followed the Chief Research Officer – Assistant Director Research HATSS 14 and Director (Research) HATISS 15 – indicated higher number of publications with PhD as a constant.
Some workers had earlier told The PUNCH that some officers had spent many years as Principal Research Officer without becoming Chief Research Officer because they did not have a PhD.

A contemporary of Igwe, who spoke on condition of anonymity, claimed there was no sign that he was taking such a rigorous academic programme until he surfaced with the attestation letter in 2001 which left many dazed.

The source, who alleged that the FIIRO boss did not have a thesis yet, said he was immediately promoted above those he met in service.

It is not clear how Igwe got promoted three times with only an attestation of registration letter when, according to the Abomey-Calavi authorities, he had yet to finish the programme as of 2019.

It is also not clear how the ICPC cleared Igwe without querying why he did not have a certificate for a programme he purportedly finished 18 years ago.

Igwe has not finished, varsity insists
Prof. Joel Tossa
After getting a clue on Igwe’s impending clearance, our correspondent reached out to the Abomey Calavi varsity on September 30, 2019 to know if it had changed its stance.

The deputy director, Wotto, insisted nothing had changed. Our correspondent demanded to speak with the Director of the Postgraduate School, Prof. Joel Tossa, on the telephone and later through WhatsApp chat. Tossa, at the beginning of the conversation, mistook our correspondent for Igwe and told him he must re-register to complete his studies.

“I was saying that you have to register for one year. You have to also write your thesis. And then, we will organise the thesis defence, he stated. Our correspondent then clarified that he was not Igwe.

Excerpt of the interview, which eventually switched to French:

PUNCH:  Can you introduce yourself sir?
Director: I am Joel Tossa, the Director of the School of Postgraduate. My role includes planning thesis defence. Before the planning, I must have the report of international professors who must give their agreement for the defence to be held.

After that, I write to the Chancellor of University of Abomey-Calavi to inform him that I have all the required documents. Then he can allow the thesis defence on my request. The defence occurs after the authorisation of the chancellor.

PUNCH: I am Samson Folarin from Nigeria. I need information on the doctorate of Chima

Igwe. I had a conversation with Wotto and he made me understand that he (Igwe) didn’t complete his studies. I asked him for your number to have more information on this issue. Chima Igwe has been lying that he has completed his studies. I want to know the truth. This is the reason for my call.

Director: Thanks! He has done his three registrations in doctoral studies. He can then have the PhD. But there is the thesis defence’s part, which must be organised and planned with foreign professors.
PUNCH: Is it because of this reason he didn’t get the certificate?

Director: Yes. The certificate is delivered only after the thesis defence. The examiners sign a document indicating that we can deliver him the certificate. I think he can regulate his situation if he submits his thesis and defends it in front of the examiners. Mrs Yayi, who was one of his supervisors, is our current Minister of Education.

PUNCH: Okay. Supposing he finishes the thesis defence in 2020, what the year will appear on his certificate?

Director: The date of the thesis defence. The defence is the final part which qualifies someone to become a PhD holder.

PUNCH: Okay. Can an attestation of registration substitute for a certificate?

Director: In the case of our university, no. On the thesis defence, there must be three reports. Two must come from our foreign colleague professors which testify to the good quality of the research work. The thesis defence is very important.

PUNCH: Thanks! I appreciate your clarification. There is an agency in Nigeria called the ICPC. I learned they had written you a letter concerning Chima Igwe. Is it true?

Director: I think so. We started speaking about the thesis defence at that moment.

PUNCH: Okay! Did you tell the agency that Chima Igwe completed his studies?
Director: We told them he had made the necessary registrations but he had not done his thesis defence.

When The PUNCH reached out to the ICPC spokeswoman, Okoduwa, to demand the actual content of the letter on which basis Igwe was cleared, she promised to get back to our correspondent.
She had yet to respond to text messages and calls from the reporter three months after.

Ibom Air Set To Commence International Flights
User Avatar Forum: Market Place
Posted by: Edoman - 12-31-2019, 08:40 AM - No Replies

Quote:Plans are underway for the Akwa Ibom State owned and operated Airline, IbomAir to begin international flights, the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Emmanuel Ekuwem has said.

This to him is sequel to the high demands by Cameroonians to fly directly into Nigeria rather than flying to Lome(Togo) before connecting a flight to Abuja or Lagos, Igbere TV reports.

Briefing newsmen at the end of the last State Executive Council Meeting for 2019, the SSG said that based on the high demand, the IbomAir will soon begin scheduled flights on Cameroon-Nigeria route.

He revealed that Cameroon to Uyo, Abuja or Lagos was within the approved routes of Ibom Air, adding that the airline will connect Douala with Abuja, Lagos or Uyo in its flight operations.

“As you can see, the International Terminal Building of our airport is coming up very soon; we are going to have our international terminal ready for international flights before year 2020 runs out,” he added.

He said the executive council meeting also reviewed the year 2019 in retrospect, and according to Dr Ekuwem, among the deliberations, was minimizing truancy in the civil service to enhance productivity.

He disclosed that the State Civil Service is to be fully automated using Information And Communication Technology (ICT) for optimal performance and enhancement of productivity of the workforce.

“There will be an increase in the number of road construction, next year, we will have a smart Akwa Ibom State, an intelligent state and this means computerization and ICT based automation of operations within the state civil service.

“Today, we took a decision that human resources (HR) and asset management, productivity of staff, performance, assessment, recruitment, employment, growth, retirement, pension and gratuity within the state civil service will be one click away. You know what that means, we will save time”, he explained.

The SSG noted that Governor Udom Emmanuel has remained undeterred in the socio-economic development of the state which he said was evident in the massive road infrastructure, inauguration of industries, investment in the power sector which would provide electricity to all by 2021, investment in aviation sector especially, the IbomAir, flag-off of the reconstruction of Ibom Blue Sea Science Park, 21 Storey Intelligent Building, and many other projects.

She was problem from the very beginning and we fired her twice - Wale Jana shades Cee-C as he shares his mistakes of 2019

Wale Jana, the CEO of Sapphire Group has shared a list of the mistakes he made in 2019 and he took several shots at ex-Bbnaija housemate, Ceec who was his brand ambasaddor for one year.

According to Wale Jana, 'the truth is she had been a problem from the very beginning and we had fired her twice before that time. She had to fly to Abuja with her own money for our last event and she came to beg'.

See his full post below...

Quote:Today I am sharing on the mistakes of 2019
1. Getting short term investors; from 2016 till 2018, we were not really producing much all we did was sell but the moment we started branching out to lots of locations and producing more products we needed more time. Get investors who can give you at least 1 to 3 years. You will be happier.
2. Getting the wrong investment banker; there are lots of phony people out there who will collect money from you and tell you they can raise money for you. If they can’t show you at least 3 people they have raised money for don’t do business with them.
3. Signing the wrong brand ambassador; I hear people say we let her go because she didn’t support me. The truth is she had been a problem from the very beginning and we had fired her twice before that time. She had to fly to Abuja with her own money for our last event and she came to beg, I am surprised to hear that she left because she was too expensive.
We fought every time to get her to even post as an ambassador, you are just a one year old celebrity and you want to be competing with the Senior Prefect Tonto Dikeh she also couldn’t get along with anyone, it was always one drama or the other. When she left and BamBam and Regina Daniels came on board we had peace and so much unity, our creativity also moved to the next level.
4. Delegate, Delegate, Delegate; I suddenly realized that I was running like 5 or more different companies; Sapphire Scents, Sapphire Time, Oju by Sapphire, Sapphire Jewels, Sapphire Apparel etc and it dawned me that I couldn’t cope any more. In 2020 I am hiring 4 managers and a CEO while I focus on making perfumes and promoting the brand.
Mistakes could be painful but that pain sets you straight, you will be smarter next time. Now I know what I wouldn’t do in 2020 and you should learn from this as well. Tag someone who should read this, please share so that others can be blessed as you have been blessed.

Delta-based activist, Harrison Gwamnishu, who shared the story online, said the owner of Club 2 in Agbor, a city in the state, allegedly battered his female staff because a customer absconded without paying after using their Shisha.

Harrison wrote;

Quote:VIOLENT AGBOR CLUB OWNER INFLICTS GRIEVOUS BODILY HARM ON STAFF
The CEO,Club 2M(Mandy's Place), Agbor physically assaults his staff on account of a clubber absconding from the club after being served shisha without payment.
The assaulted lady tried explaining that she was busy with other customers hence she lost sight of the absconded client...All explanations fell on deaf ears as the boss mercilessly threw punches and slaps at her causing grevious bodily harm on the victim.
He forcefully dragged the victim into his car after assaulting her, drove her to the police station and laid a report against her, the police however instructed him to take her for treatment and foot the bills but he dropped her at the hospital and left her without dropping any money for treatment.
Victim is currently helpless as she has been abandoned at the hospital.

Quote:Former chairman of the Special Investigation Panel for the Recovery of Public Property, Okoi Obono-Obla, who was declared wanted by the Independent Corrupt Practices and other related offences Commission, has questioned the wanted order placed on him by the commission.

He said he was never served a summon.

The PUNCH had reported exclusively on Friday that Obono-Obla, who was declared wanted by the ICPC on October 22, 2019, released a message on his Facebook page on Thursday, which suggested that he was in Nigeria and attending social functions despite the ICPC claim that he had left Nigeria in August and yet to return.

Saturday PUNCH also reported exclusively that the ICPC spokesperson, Rasheedat Okoduwa, on Friday, said the wanted order on Obono-Obla had yet to be lifted.

On August 15, 2019, the commission said it invited Obono-Obla for questioning after his removal from office on August 14, 2019.

In a statement by Okoduwa in October, Obono-Obla was accused of failing to honour the commission’s invitation over a number of allegations bordering on alleged fraud and corruption.

The statement said there was evidence that Obono-Obla left Nigeria on August 17, 2019, through the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Ikeja, Lagos, and had not returned since.

In an excerpt from an interview Obono-Obla granted a news medium, which he posted on his Facebook page on Monday, the former SPIP boss said he committed no offence that would warrant his being declared wanted by the ICPC.

He also said there was no evidence of summons, stating in the interview that he was not given a fair hearing.

In the interview, Obono-Obla said, “I challenge the ICPC to bring forth the evidence against me. They say I was living above my means; this is laughable. I built my house in my place, Ugep, Yakurr LGA, Cross River State, in 2013. The foundation for my Calabar house was also dug in 2013, the house is still there, uncompleted. While I have a small house in Abuja, long built before this appointment, I still live in a rented apartment in Abuja.

“I have declared my assets and if you see or know anything different from the assets I have listed, go to the EFCC and make a complaint against me. Don’t go to the ICPC because the place is politicised. The ICPC chairman thinks I am his rival.

“What am I wanted for? The panel was disbanded and the President asked the ICPC to send a report of my activities within 14 days. Till today, that report has not been sent. Rather, they went and declared me wanted when there was no evidence that I was served with their summons.”

Obono-Obla also stated that there were people who were still walking free even after being investigated, with billions of dollars found in their accounts.

He alleged in the interview that his travail was politically-motivated because he was from the minority part of the country.

When contacted on the latest post from Obono-Obla and claims, the ICPC spokesperson, Okoduwa, insisted in a text message she sent to our correspondent that there was enough evidence that the former SPIP boss was formally invited twice.

She said, “We invited him twice formally through the Solicitor-General of the Federation and twice through his former chambers. The letters were all acknowledged. On the allegation of living above his means, the commission’s invitation is still open for him to present evidence to the contrary.”

anticipated matchup against New England in the second quarter Sunday with a left calf injury. Brown left in obvious pain after getting his left leg tangled up with a pair of New England defenders. He was helped to the medical tent White Tre’Davious White Jersey , then taken to a hospital for further examination. Brown, the NFL’s leading receiver, had two catches for 24 yards before leaving the game. Pittsburgh rookie running back James Conner left with a sprained knee in the fourth quarter. The Patriots lost running back Rex Burkhead with a knee injury in the first half. He did not return as the Patriots rallied to beat the Steelers 27-24. Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers lost one of his top wide receivers when Davante Adams left in the third quarter because of a concussion. Adams took a helmet-to-helmet hit from Panthers linebacker Thomas Davis on an interception return by Colin Jones. As Adams was running to make the tackle on Jones, Davis appeared to launch himself at Adams with a peel-back block, immediately sending the wide receiver to the ground and out of the game. Davis was flagged for a 15-yard penalty. Also, Packers linebacker Nick Perry suffered an ankle injury in the third quarter and did not return. Panthers wide receiver Russell Shepard left the game in the second half with a shoulder injury and did not return. 49ers wide receiver Aldrick Robinson suffered a concussion in the first quarter. He went to the locker room with head and wrist injuries after he was hit hard by Titans cornerback Adoree’ Jackson along the Tennessee sideline. Robinson was stretching out trying to make a catch when he got slammed and went down for several minutes with 5:24 to go in the opening quarter. Titans cornerback Logan Ryan sustained an ankle injury in the second quarter against San Francisco. Jets defensive lineman Leonard Williams, whose interception set up his team’s field goal late in the first half, left in the third quarter against New Orleans with concussion symptoms. Saints tight end Michael Hoomanawanui left in the first half with concussion symptoms. Right guard Larry Warford went out with concussion symptoms late in the first half after he tried to make a tackle on Williams’ interception. The Giants had safety Landon Collins and linebacker B.J. Goodson leave after aggravating ankle injuries. King suffered a concussion on his 57-yard TD catch which ended with a dive into the end zone. Eagles nickel cornerback Patrick Robinson left in the second half to be evaluated for a concussion. Eagles tight end Trey Burton, who caught a TD pass, was limited in the second half by cramps. Texans center Nick Martin (ankle) and right guard Jeff Allen (concussion) left in the second half against Jacksonville. Linebacker Benardrick McKinney injured a shoulder making a touchdown-saving tackle on a punt return. Jaguars wide receiver Marqise Lee injured his right ankle in the first quarter and was later ruled out. Cardinals wide receiver Brittan Golden broke his right arm on a punt return against Washington. Defensive lineman Robert Nkemdiche left with a wrist injury. Linebacker Karlos Dansby suffered a calf injury. Redskins rookie linebacker Ryan Anderson suffered a sprained knee in punt coverage. Anderson came in dealing with an ankle injury. Bills cornerback E.J. Gaines was carted off in the fourth quarter with a knee injury. Dolphins cornerback T.J. McDonald left in the fourth quarter against Buffalo with a shoulder injury. The list of missing Bengals starters grew when left tackle Cedric Ogbuehi (shoulder) left in the first quarter against Minnesota. Right tackle Andre Smith limped off in the fourth quarter. Ravens coach John Harbaugh said wide receiver Jeremy Maclin (knee) and DT Carl Davis (lower leg) will undergo MRIs on Monday, but he doesn’t think either injury is serious. — Breaking down the NFL Combine, John Ross trade rumors, Shaq Lawson’s future, and more."WhiteFanposts Fanshots Sections NewsNotesOpinionAnalysisDiscussionPodcastNFL DraftSalary CapOpinionNotesPodcastsBillieve Podcast: 2019 NFL Combine Tre’Davious White Jersey 2019 , John Ross trade, Shaq LawsonNew,3commentsBreaking down the NFL Combine, John Ross trade rumors, Shaq Lawson’s future, and more.ESTShareTweetShareShareBillieve Podcast: 2019 NFL Combine, John Ross trade, Shaq LawsonOn the latest edition of Billieve: A Buffalo Bills Fan Podcast, host John Boccacino is joined by co-host Anthony Marino to talk NFL Combine, discuss a potential trade for a wide receiver not named Antonio Brown, break down the future of DE Shaq Lawson, and address an important vacancy on the Buffalo Bills heading into the 2019 season that no one is talking about. The NFL Combine is in full swing in Indianapolis, with the NFL Network providing around-the-clock coverage of college standouts running the 40-yard dash, lifting weights White Zay Jones Jerseys , documenting their height and weight, and measuring their hand size. It is also the scene where coaches set up private meetings with the members of the Class of 2019 NFL Draft to get to know them and figure out if they fit into the team’s draft plans. After offering up their thoughts on the Combine, Boccacino and Marino turned to trade talks, specifically for speedster and former Combine star John Ross, whom the Cincinnati Bengals tabbed with the ninth overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft. Ross reportedly is on the trading block, and GM Brandon Beane should definitely investigate ways to acquire Ross, who despite battling an assortment of injuries would still hold value in Buffalo’s offense opposite wide receiver Robert Foster on the outside. Ross, who ran the fastest 40 time at the combine (4.22 seconds) appeared in 16 games (11 starts) for the Bengals, catching 21-of-60 targets for 210 yards and seven touchdowns in his first two seasons.Another hot-button topic on the podcast: the future of Lawson. Buffalo must decide what to do with Lawson’s fifth-year option. The team hasn’t exercised a fifth-year option since 2015 when it picked up cornerback Stephon Gilmore’s option. Should Beane deal the emerging edge rusher for a second- or third-round pick rather than open up the checkbook and pick up his option? Lawson was the 16th pick of the 2016 Draft. If the Bills exercise his option, he would play the 2019 season under the terms of his original contract (his cap hit will be $3.27 million), then be paid in 2020 what the average of the third through 25 top salaries at his position was in 2019. If the Bills give Lawson the fifth year, his salary would likely fall in the range of $10-$11 million for the 2020 season. Lawson took a step forward last year, splitting time at left defensive end with Trent Murphy and finishing with four sacks, 30 tackles 11 QB hits Zay Jones Jerseys 2019 , six pass breakups, and two forced fumbles. Marino seemed comfortable dealing Lawson for a third rounder in the 2019 Draft, while it would take a second rounder for Boccacino to move on from Lawson, and even then, he feels that might not be worth a trade. Lastly, our podcasters shared the news that the Bills have a job opening heading into the season: they are seeking a passionate fan to play the role of Billy Buffalo, the team’s mascot, at home games and events in the community. What do you think, Bills fans? Should Buffalo make a deal with Cincinnati for John Ross? How about Shaq Lawson, would you deal him for a 2nd/3rd round pick or pick up his fifth-year extension?   Pat’s Perspectives: Was Ereck Flowers prepared for last week?
User Avatar Forum: Miscellaneous
Posted by: liny195 - 12-31-2019, 07:43 AM - No Replies

I usually try to not read into things too much Color Rush Darius Slayton Jersey , but I must be honest and admit that an alarm bell sounded this week regarding right tackle Ereck Flowers and his preparation for the Jaguars game.First a little context. In the past, many players have told me that mastering the mental part of the game is more than 50 percent of the battle on game day. To do that, you have to be sharp in the classroom, demonstrating that you know your assignments inside and out. You also have to be willing to spend the extra time studying the film of your opponent, as the more you learn about him, the better prepared you can be.That brings us to this past Monday when Flowers, after sleeping on things following his rocky showing against the Jaguars the day before Youth Darius Slayton Jersey , came out to speak with the media. One of his responses that kind of stuck out like a sore thumb was in response to a question concerning his tripping penalty on the first play of the game.“Yeah, it was a quick pass, so I jumped out there too fast on it,” he said before dropping his bombshell.“Next time I know what type of player I’m against. He’s not really a speed guy, so next time I won’t jump out so fast.”Wait, what? Seriously, wouldn’t studying the tape have offered a clue as to what type of player he was facing before he went out there? If that wasn’t enough to make you go “Hmmm Womens Darius Slayton Jersey ,” then how about this response from offensive coordinator Mike Shula Thursday when asked if he felt like he’s going to have to give Flowers blocking help. (Emphasis added.)“Everything ties in together. Guys have to win one-on-one’s. You’re going to have times where you’re going to slide. You want to mix your protections up whether you’re keeping your backs and tight ends in or free releasing them, not being predictable. 鈥?“To start with, guys got to know what they’re doing, know where their help is, got to get the ball out on time and then when we have backs or tight ends helping out, chipping on the way out or involved with protection, we got to do a good job with that too.”I’m really not sure how to take the comments by Flowers and Shula. I’d like to think neither was admitting that there was a lack of preparation Authentic Darius Slayton Jersey , but given what we saw last week, if that was the case, then shame on that player for taking a shortcut.Say what? I wanted to revisit a comment head coach Pat Shurmur made during his Wednesday press conference that left me confused. The comment was in response to a question about potentially falling to 0-2 because of how detrimental that might be in making the playoffs (which, as the 2007 Giants team will tell you, isn’t necessarily the case).Shurmur’s response to that question/statement was, “We don’t worry about that. That’s fun for everybody to talk about outside the building. “We didn’t do enough in the first game to win the game, and we’re working to do what we can to win this next one. Period. End of story. All that stuff is fun for everybody to talk about Darius Slayton Jersey Boys , but we don’t worry about that.”Considering that this next game is against a division opponent where the game can ultimately count for an extra half step in the standings if there is a tie, how can you not worry about falling to 0-2 when the next game on your schedule is a division opponent that can put you at that record?I kind of get where Shurmur was trying to go with his response — he’s said many times he lives in the moment. But I’m not sure his attempt at separating the next game from the 0-2 record went over quite the way as planned. Let’s calm down about Sam Darnold for nowI know Ed is going to touch upon this topic at some point, and I don’t want to steal his thunder, but I must weigh in here on the Sam Darnold-Eli Manning debate because I think it’s simply ridiculous that there even is a debate at this juncture.Seriously, I think we need to temper our enthusiasm about Darnold until he plays in several games and opposing defenses get some quality film on him in the Jets system before we go getting his bust ready for Canton. That’s not to say Darnold won’t become a very good player, but to sit there and compare him with the more accomplished Manning is just ludicrous at this point. The Bears defense kept the Giants offense under its thumb for most of the first half, but Saquon Barkley broke loose just before halftime and the Giants were able to cut Chicago’s lead as the clock ran out.Barkley wiggled free for a 22-yard run after back-to-back sacks led the Bears to call timeout for a last chance with the ball. The Giants still needed a yard for a first down Infant Darius Slayton Jersey , went for it and got a nine-yard completion on the next play to give Aldrick Rosas a shot at a 57-yard field goal. Rosas knocked it through and the Bears led was down to 14-10 as the teams headed into the locker room. That completion by Manning put a happy ending on a miserable half. He was intercepted by Kyle Fuller, pressured often and throwing wildly on his way to a 7-of-17 line. Barkley had six carries for 21 yards before his big play at the end of the half and they have just 103 yards to show for their efforts.Chicago hasn’t been able to turn that into a bigger lead because of two Chase Daniel interceptions. Both were by linebacker Alec Ogletree, who returned the first for a touchdown and the second ended a drive that had moved into Giants territory.Daniel is 6-of-11 for 61 yards, but the Bears have largely leaned on their run game. After running just 15 times last week, the Bears already have 26 attempts on Sunday and Jordan Howard has 68 yards on 13 carries. With a lead, it seems likely the Bears will follow the same script so the Giants will have to step it up on their end to get Daniel to put more balls up for grabs in the second half.

first appearance on the injury report this season when he was listed as limited in Wednesday’s practice with a knee injury.Brady may be checking another first off the list on Friday. Reporters at the portion of Patriots practice open to the media sent word that Brady is not on the field with the rest of the team. It’s possible he could arrive later and draw another limited listing. If not White Kevin Faulk Jerseys , it will be his first missed practice of the year. The team will release an injury report clearing that up later on Friday.According to multiple reports, Brady was injured against the Titans in Week 10 after catching a pass from wide receiver Julian Edelman in the fourth quarter. Brady came up short of the first down and it was the final snap he played as Brian Hoyer played out the string in a 34-10 Patriots loss.Word after Brady’s arrival on the injury report was that Brady was not at risk of missing Sunday’s game against the Jets. There’s been no sign that anything has changed on that front, but Friday’s development adds a whiff of intrigue to the weekend’s proceedings. MIAMI (AP) — Ryan Tannehill was heading out the door when someone noted the predicted high temperature of 83 for Sunday’s game between the Miami Dolphins and New England Patriots.“Not quite hot enough,” Tannehill responded with a smile.Turn up the heat. That’s what the Dolphins tend to do when the Patriots play in Miami. While New England has dominated Miami — and everyone else — in the AFC East over the past decade, the reverse has been true lately when the teams meet in South Florida. The Dolphins have won four of the past five home meetings, including 27-20 last December when Jay Cutler outplayed Tom Brady.Oddsmakers expect the trend to end Kevin Faulk Jerseys 2019 , with New England (9-3) a touchdown favorite over Miami (6-6).Here are things to know as the Patriots attempt to clinch their 10th consecutive division title:TOUGH PLACE TO PLAYIn recent years the Patriots have had worse results in Miami than anywhere else, and New England coach Bill Belichick blames the Dolphins.“They’ve got a good football team,” he said. “They’ve got a lot of good players.”That’s fine, coach, except that in Foxborough, your team has won 10 in a row against Miami by an average score of 33-13. That includes a 38-7 victory earlier this season. And in the standings White Tedy Bruschi Jerseys , the Dolphins have been perennial also-rans to your dynasty.Belichick and his players discount the South Florida climate as a factor, but it does favor the Dolphins, with teams from the north tending to wilt in the warm weather.“Sometimes it hits some of these teams pretty hard,” Miami coach Adam Gase said. The bad news for the Dolphins is that forecasters don’t anticipate the heavily favored Patriots will take the game lightly — not with the annoyance this week of constant questions about their recent results in Miami.“The last few times we’ve played them down there, we haven’t played very well,” running back James White acknowledged Tedy Bruschi Jerseys 2019 , “so I think that’s enough motivation.”ANOTHER CHANCEAfter a quiet day when the teams met in September, Miami receiver Danny Amendola is itching for another crack at his former team, but he has been nursing a knee injury and missed last week’s win over Buffalo.Amendola became one of Brady’s favorite targets during his five seasons in New England. He is in his first year with Miami after signing a $12 million, two-year contract and leads the team in catches and yards receiving.Patriots safety Patrick Chung said Amendola was always a handful in practice.“Danny’s the man,” Chung said. “He’s a small dude, but he’s stronger than you think and he’s feisty. He’s going to be ready for us.”EVOLVING IDENTITYEarly this season White Andre Tippett Jerseys , opponents took advantage of a New England defense that struggled to get pressure up front and was susceptible in the secondary to big plays. The Patriots appear to be tightening up at the right time. They haven’t allowed a 300-yard passer in five consecutive games, or a 100-yard rusher in nine consecutive games. That’s a vast improvement for a unit that gave up 30 or more points three times in the first seven games, including a season-high 40 in narrow win over Kansas City.Belichick said the improvement is part of an evolving identity in the first season with linebackers coach Brian Flores making defensive calls.COMEBACK QBTannehill has a passer rating of 112.7 with five touchdowns and one interception in two games since returning from an injury to his throwing shoulder. The performances come amid growing speculation about whether the Dolphins will bring him back next season.“I have a long way to go to get where I want to be,” he said. “I think I’m doing all right, but a lot of plays I’d like to be better at. I think we have a lot better football in front of us as an offense.”MILESTONE WATCHBrady enters Sunday tied with Peyton Manning for the most touchdown passes in NFL history, including playoffs.Manning and Brady both have 579 TD tosses Andre Tippett Jerseys 2019 , followed by Brett Favre (552) and Drew Brees (547). The 508 regular-season touchdown passes by Brady and Favre trail Manning (539) and Brees (518) on the career list.

In that stretch, he was rock solid as the last line of defense for the Jets on defense with minimal hiccups. The second phase came in December, where he became a mistake machine.   Vikings Off Season Plan - Pre All Star Game EditionWell

Womens Marcus Epps Jersey , my favorite time of year is here again. The time when the Vikings are eliminated and I can start dreaming about how they can get better and not get eliminated again next year. I believe there could be some turnover in the roster in order to free up cap space. In this version, I am going to be conservative and try to build through the draft. The Vikings will enter the off season with about 10.985 mil (for 43 players) according to overthecap and 731K (53 players) according to spotrac. Now spotrac is counting all of the players signed to futures contracts as 645K (3 players), 570K (7 players), and 495K (1 player). Plus there are some slight differences in a few other cap hits. When I use the Fanspeak Ultimate GM Simulator site (game) it has the Vikings with 7.848 mil available so I am just going to go with that for this silly exercise. Now the Vikings have some in house free agents they have to decide to make on offer, place a tender amount, or watch them test the market. They also will likely ask to restructure/extend some contracts. In this version, I am going to think outside the box. There really are not too many attractive free agents on the offensive line. They do not need secondary help. They could consider linebacker and/or defensive tackle help depending on if they extend Barr and Richardson. I do not see a receiver or tight end being added either. I think doing very little is probably the best approach. If Barr and Richardson go get huge deals then the Vikings could be in line for two 3rd round compensatory picks in 2020. That is the goal here. So, now that the strategy is out the way, here are the current free agents ...UFASheldon Richardson - 29 - 43DTLatavius Murray - 29 - RBAnthony Barr - 27 - 43OLBBrett Jones - 28 - CNick Easton - 27 - CDan Bailey - 31 - KMarcus Sherels - 32 - CBAmeer Abdullah - 26 - RBTom Johnson - 35 - 43DTTom Compton - 30 - LGGeorge Iloka - 29 - SAldrick Robinson - 31 - WRTrevor Siemian - 28 - QBRFAAnthony Harris - 27 - SRashod Hill - 27 - RTERFAMatt Wile - 27 - PC.J. But the Vikings would still have Easton, Collins, & Isidora that at least have experience (save for Collins). If this draft happened then I would expect Risner to take over at right tackle (in a year) and O’Neill to move to left tackle. The main part of not doing any major signings in free agency is that it would preserve the more than likely compensatory picks the Vikings would receive for Barr and Richardson getting big pay days. Trading Waynes will be met with disdain by some. But the Vikings are probably not going to extend him after 2019. He is going to get over 10 mil per year. If he stays then Hughes may not play too much once he is ready which should be by the start of the season if not sooner. Cook came back early so with Sugarman you cant bet against Hughes being ready sooner. https://zonecoverage.com/2018/vikings/as...ght-have/I do not see the logic of taking a corner in the 1st round and then not letting him play a lot. As the 4th corner he would get some snaps for sure but Hill performed well for an UDFA last year and should get snaps too.I think Waynes can get the same trade as Marcus Peters. The Chiefs got a 2018 4th and a 2019 2nd for Peters and a 2018 6th. I think a straight up 2nd is good enough. The Colts need a corner and will have 123 mil in cap space. They wont have any problem taking on his 9 mil salary in 2019 and can decide if they want to extend him which seems likely. It is doubtful they get a corner as good as Waynes at the end of the 1st or in the 2nd. Of course this may not happen for real but it is happening here. When the agent for Vikings free agent linebacker Anthony Barr got on the phone to tell his client about a five-year Danielle Hunter Jersey , $75 million deal with the Jets, it was supposed to be a celebration. But Barr didn’t see it that way, with immediate hesitation that led him to back out on the deal a day later and return to the Vikings.Agent Ryan Williams told ESPN that he could sense Barr’s lack of enthusiasm over what appeared to be a winning lottery ticket.“He said, ‘I feel like I just made the worst mistake of my life,'” Williams said.Because the negotiations happened during the tampering window, Barr couldn’t sign anything anyway until Wednesday. So after the Jets made their offer, which seemed agreed upon, Barr’s second thoughts led his agent to ask the Vikings for a last-ditch chance to keep one of their defensive cornerstones, which came in that Monday night. Tuesday would be decision day.“I was up for all morning, just looking at my ceiling, just looking for a sign,” Barr said. “Talking to everybody, trying to figure something out. . . .“I was trying to convince myself of something I knew that in my heart didn’t feel right, and I think if you follow the heart, I can live with the results.”It’s not that Barr’s doing poorly with the Vikings Linval Joseph Jersey , signing a five-year deal with $67.5 million, with $33 million in guarantees. It’s $1.5 million a year less than he’d have made in New York, but that didn’t stop a family celebration that included margaritas, tacos, and tears.“It happened the minute he said I’m going to go back [to Minnesota],” his mother Lori said. “There were tears. It was pure elation — relief, appreciation, feeling valued, feeling reconnected. Just a range of emotions but mostly just sincere happiness that he was getting to go back to where he got to start it all and be with the people he loves to be with, with the organization, in a city he really enjoys and has now become his second home. It just really made waiting and not knowing worth it.”The Jets said they understood the business, and wanted guys who were all-in. And the Vikings benefitted from the time built into the system, for Barr to realize the place he was all-in was the place he already was.

The Green Bay Packers continued to add to Matt LaFleur’s coaching staff this week Kenny Clark Jersey , reportedly making another hire on Friday afternoon. According to Packersnews.com’s Jim Owczarski, the team is bringing over Kirk Olivadotti from Washington to be their new linebackers coach.Olivadotti spent two stints in Washington, most recently coaching inside linebackers from 2014 to 2018. In that span, he helped develop college safety Su’a Cravens into a productive linebacker, and he could be asked to work similarly with the Packers’ Josh Jones. Prior to returning to Washington in 2014, he coached the linebackers at the University of Georgia, where several of his players became NFL draft picks.Olivadotti also held several other posts for Washington between 2000 and 2010, including linebackers coach when the team ran a 4-3 scheme. He had one year of overlap with Matt LaFleur there, in that 2010 season when both men worked under head coach Mike Shanahan. This will be Olivadotti’s first NFL coaching job outside the Washington organization.Although the report indicates that he will be the Packers’ linebackers coach Jason Spriggs Jersey , it seems likely that the inside linebackers will remain his priority.Click here for a full list of the Packers’ coaching staff as we know it so far. Rebilas-USA TODAY SportsAfter much speculation and reporting, it’s finally official: the Green Bay Packers have settled on their initial class of undrafted free agents. Early reporting had North Texas cornerback Nate Brooks as a signing and Rouse as a tryout player; however, Rouse is on this list as a confirmed signing, while Brooks is not. It appears that Brooks changed his mind and decided to sign with the Arizona Cardinals instead of the Packers — he retweeted this tweet about an hour before the Packers announced the UDFA group. As a result of these signings, the Packers’ 90-man roster officially sits at 88 players, a number that includes the four selections from the 2019 NFL Draft who have signed their rookie contracts already and the four who remained unsigned at the present time. That means that there are two slots potentially available for tryout players this weekend. Stay tuned for practices Friday and Saturday and keep an eye on Monday’s transaction report to see if any of those players do indeed end up signing contracts with the team.

Quote:The Joint border drill has confiscated more than 4800 bales of second hand clothings valued at three billion naira from Yaba market in Lagos.

The Customs Coordinator, Western Zone, Assistant Comptroller General, Bukar Amajan, explained that the seizure was made possible through intelligence report.

More than 4800 bales of second hand clothings impounded from a single location.

The Customs coordinator of the border drill says these were picked up from Yaba market where smugglers had stockpiled them.

Describing second hand clothings as absolutely prohibited items, he challenged the owners of the consignment to come forward with any document to prove these goods were brought into the country legitimately.

Government still maintains a ban on the importation of second hand clothings into Nigeria from either the seaports, airports or land borders and Customs insist it will continue to effect seizures wherever they are found.

13-year-old girl who was sexually abused by her father for four-years dies giving birth to his child

A thirteen-year-old girl who was sexually abused by her father for four years died while giving birth to his child.

Police in Brazil confirmed that the girl Luana Ketlen died on December 11 after she was admitted to hospital for severe abdominal pains before it was discovered that she was actually pregnant.

Luana was induced to labour by doctors who helped her deliver a premature baby boy who miraculously survived, but the mother who was diagnosed with acute anaemia didn't make it after suffering complications including cirrhosis of the liver, water on the lungs and low blood pressure
[Image: 5e0a1a5dd1ab7.jpg]
Police later issued a warrant for her 36-year-old father Tome Faba, who they believed began abusing his daughter when she was just nine. He first went  on the run before being caught in the city of Coari a week later.

Mr.Tome appeared in court for the first time on December 27 and was charged with child abuse and manslaughter.
According to Mail Online, Luana died while being airlifted to a specialist hospital in Manaus, the Amazonas state capital, some 225 miles away (363km).

At a press conference, Coari police chief, José Barradas said: 'The teenager lived with her parents in a rural area outside the city.

'She did not realise, until two months ago when she began to feel pains in her abdomen, that she was five months pregnant.

'Luana claimed she was ordered to go fishing with her father and was allegedly raped by him while there.'

The Police chief Barradas also alleged that Faba threatened to kill his daughter if she reported what was happening.

Barradas said: 'Members of the family tried to step in and protect the child by alerting social services.

'They reported the abuse to police and a warrant was issued for Tome's arrest but before it could be executed Luana's health deteriorated and she died shortly after childbirth'.

Watch the moment groom played X-rated video of cheating bride having sex with her brother-in-law at their wedding

A wedding between a Chinese man and his partner ended at the venue after the groom played a naked video of the bride having sex with her brother-in-law in front of shocked guests.

The wedding reportedly took place in the province of Fujian in south-eastern China last Thursday.

According to online reports, the five-minute sex tape was played at the event in front of family and friends to humiliate the unfaithful fiancée after her affair with her pregnant sister's husband was discovered.

In the viral video, the emcee is heard telling the crowd 'now we are going to show you the videos of how the newlyweds grew up'. But seconds later, an X-rated video starts playing from the projector.

The clip then shows the groom accusing the bride on stage 'you thought I didn't know?' and the bride throwing her bouquet at her partner before people ran to the stage to separate them.

An influential Chinese entertainment blogger known as 'Jiang Zhe Hu Ba Jie', claimed that the bride cheated on her fiancé after suffering from domestic violence from him and she also admitted the affair.

He also added that the bride and her brother-in-law developed feelings for each other after the latter started to intervene between her and her fiancé during their dispute over domestic violence.

Woman arrested in Lagos for allegedly abusing her stepchildren

A woman has been arrested for allegedly subjecting her stepchildren to abuse.

Funmilayo Samson was arrested on Friday, December 27, by Officials of the Directorate for Citizens’ Rights after a post about her abusing her stepchildren went viral on Facebook.

The children were rescued and Ms Funmilayo was handed over to the police.

The alleged abuse was shared on Facebook by a concerned neighbour who claimed Ms Funmilayo locks her stepchildren, aged 12, 9, and 3, outside the house when she's leaving for work in the morning and leaves them there without food. They only get a chance to go back into the house when she returns in the evening. It was also alleged that she subjects them to physical abuse and leaves them with bruises on their bodies.

Ms Funmilayo and the father of the children got married after the children lost their mother.

Unfortunately, the father doesn't live at home and only returns on weekends. This leaves the children susceptible to abuse from their stepmother.

Neighbours of Ms Funmilayo, on Ebuwawa Road in the Ikorodu area of the state, said the abuse has been going on for a long time and Ms Funmilayo becomes confrontational whenever anyone tries to intervene.

It was also alleged that she sometimes leaves the children without food when she travels out of the state for a few days.

The neighbour who first shared the child abuse story on Facebook revealed Ms Funmilayo had been reported to the neighbourhood police but she was allowed to go free and this emboldened her and made her more violent. As the abuse persisted, the concerned neighbour decided to take the story to Facebook.

Getting the story on Facebook worked as it got the attention of concerned citizens and the children were rescued.

The siblings are currently in protective custody.

Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Bala Elkana, confirmed the arrest of Ms Funmilayo and the rescue of the children. He said the stepmother will be charged to court.

Chinese scientist jailed for editing babies genes to make them HIV-resistant

He Jiankui, a Chinese scientist who created the world’s first “gene-edited” babies has been handed a 3-year jail sentence.

The associate professor at Southern University of Science and Technology in Shenzhen first ignited worldwide outrage in November 2018 after revealing that he used gene-editing technology known as Crispr-Cas9 to change the genes of twin girls to protect them from getting infected with the AIDS virus in the future. He has been held under armed guard at a university guesthouse since he declared his work to the world at the international gene editing conference, including major interviews with Western media.

The Chinese scientists who alongside his collaborators forged ethical review materials and recruited men with AIDS who were part of a couple to carry out the gene-editing, was suspended from his job and accused of work that was "extremely abominable in nature".

Jiankui who carried out the gene-editing process on seven embryos in late 2018, was found guilty of illegal practice alongside two others and he was fined 3m yuan (US$430,000).

State news agency Xinhua reported that Zhang Renli who worked with Jiankui was sentenced to two years in prison and fined 1m yuan. Qin Jinzhou on the other hand received an 18-month sentence, but with a two-year reprieve and a 500,000 yuan fine.

The court said;

Quote:“The three accused did not have the proper certification to practise medicine, and in seeking fame and wealth, deliberately violated national regulations in scientific research and medical treatment.
“They’ve crossed the bottom line of ethics in scientific research and medical ethics.”

During the sentencing, it was also learnt that a third baby from a different mother to the twins, was born as part of the project before it was shut down by the authorities. An original research published earlier this month by the MIT Technology Review found that he may not have succeeded in reproducing the gene that makes some people immune to HIV.

5,000 ghost workers uncovered in Zamfara, three ‘culpable’ directors suspended

Three directors and five officials of Zamfara state ministry of finance have been suspended over an alleged appointment racketeering.

The officials were suspended after 5,000 ghost workers receiving a salary amounting to N216 million were uncovered by the state's government. One of the suspended workers who allegedly aided the appointment racketeering, was reportedly receiving thrice the salary a medical doctor gets at the end of the month.

The state’s commissioner for finance, Rabiu Garba who confirmed the suspension said the culpable officials includes Director, Finance Hospital Management Board; Director Salary, State Ministry of Finance; and his deputy including five other officials in the ministry. He also revealed that the suspended government workers will be prosecuted if found guilty.

He said;

Quote:“This is a serious crime at Zamfara civil service affecting the implementation of new minimum wage. There are some workers that are receiving only N7000 because the wage bill almost tallies with monthly allocation and the internally generated revenue (IGR) is declining.
“In the next two weeks the public would know the outcome of the investigation, we would name all the officials involved and the banks that are aiding them in committing the fraud. We would submit the banks’ names to the Central Bank of Nigeria for further disciplinary action.”

Edo commissioner allegedly arrested by INTERPOL

Edo State's Commissioner for Arts, Culture and Tourism, Mr. Osaze Osemwingie-Ero has been allegedly arrested by INTERPOL over money laundering.

The Edo State cabinet who was reportedly arrested in France since last month (November) for being in possession of $2m, was allegedly detained and queried by operatives of the International police agency.

Though insiders told The Nation that the commissioner was arrested over an offence he committed seven years ago, political opponents are claiming the money was allegedly given to him by Governor Godwin Obaseki during a foreign trip.

However reacting to the arrest, the Edo State's government stated that the arrest has no link to Governor Obaseki.

Obaseki's Special Adviser on Media and Communication Strategy, Mr. Crusoe Osagie also disclosed that they are yet to confirm the arrest.

He said;

Quote:“We learnt about the alleged arrest of the Arts, Culture, Tourism and Diaspora Commissioner, Hon. Osaze Osemwingie-Ero from unreliable sources on social media and we are unable to confirm either the alleged arrest or what might have led to it.
“But we can confirm without equivocation that whatever the issues might be, they are totally personal and have nothing whatsoever to do with the Edo State Government or Governor Godwin Obaseki.”

Bishop Oyedepo: "We Employed 6,000 Employees In 2019"

GROWTH AND EXPANSION OF THE END TIME CHURCH AND FINANCIAL RESOURCES: We Owe God Thanks.
*Our Story in 2019.

Bishop David Oyedepo

How could a people, as ordinary as we are, think of planting 5,000 churches in a year. No, we didn't think of - He commanded it and He accomplished it. We owe Him thanks.

This year we employed 6000 new staff and automatically, nearly N300 million Naira ($835,000) monthly wage bill unbudgeted for was added to our expenditure. This was despite the fact that we only received the instruction to plant 5,000 churches from God in January 2019 whereas we had already passed and approved our 2019 budget since November 2018.

Yet no scratch, WE OWE GOD THANKS. I've never read it, I've never heard it, I only saw Him do it. We owe God thanks. I don't know about it, I don't know how to get that kind of thing done, WE OWE GOD THANKS.

The result of the 5,082 churches planted within 5 months was that 200,000 Villagers were able to get connected and join us during Shiloh 2019.
We have not gone red throughout 2019.

How do you get 6,000 staff, added to you after screening (and screening), nearly about 11,000 people applied. He added them to His wage bill by Himself and He paid them all; He's been paying them ever since. Glory be to God: We owe God thanks.

(2 million people in Nigeria alone joined viewing centers to take part in Shiloh 2019 asides those present in Canaanland and in churches in other nations of the world. This is aside from a minimum 19 million online viewers -assuming one hit online represents only one person-)

We have never lacked manpower.
Today we generate our own (electric) power (as it was in the beginning) but with improved technology and at less cost.
We supply our own water.

The growth of the end time Church cannot deliver without financial resources.
We are celebrating access to resources.
God commanded us to establish 5,000 churches so he is the one to pay them.

The next great step of your life will be totally stressfree.

Why Nigeria is moving backward – Abubakar Tsav

 December 30

Elder statesman and former Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Alhaji Abubakar Tsav, has identified corruption as the reason behind the backwardness of Nigeria.

He said Nigeria has refused to grow because of corruption and lack of unity.

Tsav made this assertion on Monday during the launching of the book, Integrity vs Power Play: Understanding the Buhari Phenomenon By Philip Agbese in Abuja.

Speaking shortly after being crowned Activist of the Year, the respected elder statesman decried how corruption has eaten deep into the Nigerian system.

According to him, “We are all aware that the reason Nigeria has refused to grow is because of corruption.
“We are backward because the level of corruption in Nigeria is high.

“Until we rise to challenge this cankerworm, Nigeria will not grow.”

Tsav recalled that during his early days, there was free education but the reverse is now the case.

He recalled with nostalgia, “During our earlier days, we went to free school, we were given free uniform but at the moment it is not so because of corruption.

“Our children need to rise and challenge this so we could move forward

Airlines forecast $29.3 billion net profit in New Year

27 December 2019   |

Challenges of the year 2019 notwithstanding, global airlines are warming up for more profitable 2020 with the net profit already anticipated to hit $29.3 billion.

The profit margin is an improvement over $28 billion forecast for 2019. The key performance drivers will include economic growth, cheaper fuel, new employments, and improved passenger and cargo traffic.

The International Air Transport Association (IATA), representing 290 airlines, released the forecast recently. Actually, economic performance in 2019 was weaker than had been anticipated at the time of the June forecast.

This aligns with weaker global Gross Domestic Product (GDP) growth of 2.5 percent, versus 2.7 per cent forecast in June, and world trade growth of just 0.9 per cent, down from 2.5 percent forecast in June.

These negative developments contributed to softer passenger and cargo demand and corresponding weaker revenue growth, as passenger yields fell 3.0 percent and cargo yields dropped 5.0 percent compared to 2018. Operating expenses did not rise as much as anticipated; 3.8 percent vs. 7.4 percent June forecast, largely owing to lower-than-expected fuel costs; but this was not enough to offset the softness in revenue.

IATA’s Director General and Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Alexandre de Juniac, observed that slowing economic growth, trade wars, geopolitical tensions and social unrest, plus continuing uncertainty over Brexit all came together to create a tougher than anticipated business environment for airlines.

“Yet, the industry managed to achieve a decade in the black, as restructuring and cost-cutting continued to pay dividends. It appears that 2019 will be the bottom of the current economic cycle and the forecast for 2020 is somewhat brighter. The big question for 2020 is how capacity will develop, particularly when, as expected, the grounded 737 Max aircraft return to service and delayed deliveries arrive,” de Juniac said.

In 2020, economic growth will be a key economic driver. The GDP is forecast to expand by 2.7 per cent in 2020, marginally above the 2.5 percent growth in 2019. World trade growth is expected to rebound to 3.3 per cent from 0.9 per cent in 2019, as election year pressures in the USA contribute to reduced trade tensions.

Growth is supported by actions from central banks as well as easing fiscal policy.

Slower-than-expected global economic growth in 2019 contributed to lower energy demand, with crude oil prices averaging around $65 per barrel (Brent), compared to $71.60 in 2018. Oil supply is also plentiful, boosting inventories.
As a result, oil prices are expected to dip further in 2020 to $63 (Brent). Jet kerosene prices are also expected to dip, averaging $75.60 per barrel versus $77 per barrel in 2019.

The expected industry fuel bill of $182 billion will represent 22.1 per cent of expenses, down from $188 billion or 23.7 per cent of expenses in 2019.

The total employment by airlines is expected to reach 2.95 million in 2020, up 1.6 per cent on 2019. Productivity is expected to rise 2.9 per cent over 2019 as capacity growth picks up. Unit labour cost ($/ATK) is expected to be virtually flat at $0.12, as better productivity offsets increasing wages.Passenger demand is expected to grow 4.1 per cent in 2020, in line with 4.2 per cent growth in 2019. In fact, this masks a GDP-growth-driven pick-up since the underlying growth rate fell to less than 4.0 per cent in 2019.

However, whereas passenger capacity (ASKs) rose 3.5 per cent in 2019, it is forecast to grow 4.7 per cent in 2020 – as aircraft deliveries rise significantly, causing load factors to slide to 82 per cent from 82.4 per cent in 2019. This will maintain pressure on yields, which are expected to slide 1.5 per cent after falling 3.0 per cent in 2019. Passenger revenues, excluding ancillaries, are expected to reach $581 billion, up 2.5 per cent from $567 billion in 2019.

Cargo traffic turned negative last year for the first time since 2012. The 3.3 per cent annual decline in demand was the steepest drop since 2009 during the Global Financial Crisis. Freight carriage, meanwhile, slipped to 61.2 million tonnes from 63.3 million tonnes in 2018.

Cargo traffic is expected to rebound moderately with 2.0 percent growth in 2020, with tonnes forecast to reach 62.4 million, which is still below the 2018 result. Yields will continue to slide with a 3.0 per cent decline forecast for 2020, an improvement from a 5.0 percent decline in 2019. Cargo revenues will slip for a third year in 2020 with revenues expected to total $101.2 billion, down 1.1 percent from 2019.

The regional profit picture is mixed in both 2019 and 2020. Africa, Middle East and Latin America are all expected to lose money in 2019, with carriers in Latin America returning to profit in 2020 as regional economies strengthen. Airlines in North America continue to lead on financial performance, accounting for 65 percent of industry profits in 2019 and around 56 percent of aggregate earnings in 2020.

Financial performance is expected to improve or remain the same compared to 2019 in all regions except for North America, where expected capacity growth owing to new aircraft deliveries could put pressure on earnings.

North American carriers are expected to post a net profit of $16.5 billion, down from $16.9 billion in 2019. That represents a 6.0 per cent net margin and a net profit of $16.00 per passenger. The region managed to improve profitability in 2019, as the still strong economy and structural improvements in the industry allowed unit revenues to hold up much more than in other regions.

But in 2020, unit revenue and profitability are expected to reduce. This will be the result of a slowing economy and a significant increase in aircraft deliveries particularly with the expected return to service of the 737 Max fleet.

Apologise to Sowore, Dasuki, others over rights abuse, Frank tells Buhari

Former Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Timi Frank, has urged President Muhammadu Buhari to apologise to Omoyele Sowore, Col. Sambo Dasuki (rtd.) and other detained Nigerians for infringing on their rights.

In a statement made available to The Guardian yesterday, Frank applauded the senators of the United States of America (USA) and the American government for putting pressure on Nigerian government to release the duo.Thanking Nigerians, especially human rights lawyer, Femi Falana, who fought for justice even with threats to their lives, he argued that but for the pressure by the USA government, Sowore would still be languishing in Directorate of State Services (DSS’s) detention.

Declaring that, “Truly the American government is the police of the world,” he charged the USA, European Union (EU), United Nations (UN) and all lovers of democracy including Nigerians in the Diaspora to assert more pressure on the Nigerian government to release other political prisoners in the country.

“President Muhammadu Buhari’s government has succeeded in oppressing its citizens, no more freedom of speech and the right to association. Just a few days ago, General Buhari and APC thugs beat Deji Adeyanju to stupor.“The activist was beaten up for protesting against the continued detention of Sowore, yet the ruling party had the nerves to accuse the opposition of masterminding the attack, indeed this government is not only clueless, but shameless,” he stated.

Besides, Chairman, Senate Committee on Judiciary and Human Rights, Opeyemi Bamidele, has appealed to Nigerians not to capitalise on the mistakes of the DSS to pass unseemly comments that could diminish the President Buhari’s government’s respect for the judiciary. Bamidele said Dasuki and Sowore’s release from detention had neutralised the claim that the All Progressives Congress (APC)- led government, was muzzling the judiciary.

The representative of Ekiti Central Senatorial District stressed that their release further corroborated President Buhari’s belief in the judiciary and as a bastion of democracy and the rule of law.

Meanwhile, organised labour has commended the Federal Government for the release of Dasuki, a former National Security Adviser (NSA) and Sowore, a civil rights activist from detention.A member of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) National Executive Council (NEC), Comrade Issa Aremu, said in in a statement yesterday, that “It is remarkable that the DSS has finally complied with the court orders directing it to release some detainees notably convener of #RevolutionNow protest, Sowore and Dasuki.“With this singular move, it should be assumed that the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami (SAN), has resumed duties as the country’s chief law officer,” he said.

  Buhari and the fifth columnists

One of the most chilling claims I have ever heard in my life was allegedly made by the chief security officer to a Nigerian military ruler years ago. Nicely confronted by journalists over his suffocating influence on the head of state as well as the spate of bombings and state-sponsored assassinations in the country, he reportedly replied: “I am the CSO to the head of state and commander-in-chief. I have the duty to protect him with everything and anything, including taking out those who pose a threat to him. Whatever I do is to protect him and he knows that very well. That is my job.” That precisely is the warped logic behind the workings of “state security” in Nigeria.

The drama surrounding the arrest, detention, bail, release and re-arrest of Mr Omoyele Sowore, publisher of Sahara Reporters and former presidential candidate of the Africa Action Congress (AAC), returned me to the memory lane. Could it be that President Muhammadu Buhari, as generally believed, was behind the recklessness of the Department of State Services (DSS) or the DSS was just behaving like the CSO, believing it can do “everything and anything” to protect the president? The difference does not really matter. The fact is that the DSS was behaving badly and Buhari did not say or do anything to show that he disapproved of the conduct.

I was pleased when the DSS freed Sowore on Christmas Eve following a pronouncement by Mallam Abubakar Malami, the attorney-general of the federation. There was even a bonus: Colonel Sambo Dasuki (rtd), former national security adviser who is undergoing trial over the $2.1 billion security funds allegedly diverted to the 2015 elections, was also released years after being granted bail by a court of law. Dasuki owes his freedom to Sowore, ironically. Unlike Sowore, not many people really cared about Dasuki’s fate because of the nature of the allegations against him. Yet, allegations remain allegations until they are proved and convictions secured in a court of law.

There are several arguments out there over what led to the release of Sowore and Dasuki. PUNCH, which took the rare step of returning to Buhari’s military rank and calling his government a regime in protest against the disobedience of court orders, believes its editorial position paid off. They were released two weeks after the stinging editorial. Some argued that it was because some American lawmakers wrote to Malami to express their displeasure (Sowore is also an American citizen). Many said it was Sowore’s wife, Opeyemi, that did the trick. Chief Femi Fani-Kayode, opposition figure, said key government insiders, led by Mallam Abba Kyari, Buhari’s chief of staff, did the job.

Malami, apparently responding to those who said the decision to release Sowore and Dasuki was influenced by the US lawmakers, said “the only reasons revolved around our commitment to the rule of law, obedience to court orders and compassionate grounds”, maintaining that “even if we received any communication from them that will never be the basis on the part of the Federal Government to obey or disobey court orders emanating from Nigeria”. As for me, all I want is respect for court orders. I would not spend much time wondering if it was PUNCH or American congressmen that got the job done. All I care about is: obey the courts! Just do it!

What I kept asking myself when Sowore was being held for so long by the DSS was: why would Buhari want him kept in the cooler endlessly? How much of a threat is he to this government? I understand well that Sowore made a lot of wild statements in the countdown to the aborted launch of his Revolution Now sit-outs — including saying that the government would be overthrown. The security agencies might have become jittery that the protests could snowball into a nationwide mayhem — the way President Omar al-Bashir of Sudan was overthrown by similar demonstrations — but I am still not persuaded that Sowore is such a humongous threat to “national security”.

If we make an excuse for Buhari that he is not behind the actions of DSS — an untenable justification, I would immediately add — it can only suggest that he is not in charge of his government, and that is even more damaging. The Buhari that was sold to the Nigerian electorate in 2015 is one who is strong-willed, one who is a genuine covert to constitutional democracy and one who would offer Nigeria the needed leadership. It, therefore, beggars belief to suggest that he is not in charge, that it is just some power-drunk guys calling the shots. I refuse to believe this. I would not excuse Buhari on any grounds. It is his government and the buck must stop on his desk.

Looking back, I remember when Buhari was military head of state between 1983 and 1985. There were cases of extraordinary highhandedness. One was the invasion of the Apapa home of Chief Obafemi Awolowo during which his chapel was desecrated by soldiers. His international passport was seized and he could not travel for his medicals. Also, the pension of Alhaji Shehu Musa, secretary to the federal government (SGF) under President Shehu Shagari, was stopped. Buhari would, years later, deny knowledge of these infractions, accusing “fifth columnists” in his government of being the masterminds just to discredit him and make him unpopular.

Buhari said that shortly before he was overthrown in August 1985, he got security reports that some members of the Supreme Military Council (SMC) — the country’s highest decision-making body — were unhappy with him, particularly some decisions and actions that affected their interests. He said he brought up the issue himself at an SMC meeting, asking council members if there should be two laws in Nigeria, “one for us as SMC members and the other for ordinary Nigerians”. He said that even though Babangida, after the coup, accused him of arrogating knowledge to himself, no single decision was taken without it being discussed, debated and approved by the SMC.

With this at the back of my mind, I am forced to ask Buhari today: are there “fifth columnists” in your government again and are they working hard to make you unpopular locally and globally under the pretext of “protecting” your government? If I wanted to be nice to them, I would say the “fifth columnists” may mean well for you, not that they are working actively to undermine you and your government. I would say they love you so much that they believe they can do “everything and anything” to protect you and secure your government. But “meaning well” and “doing well” are two things that are not necessarily related.

Mr President, you have lamented several times the big difference between a military regime and a democratic order. Under the former, you held executive, legislative and judicial powers. In fact, Supreme Court pronouncements were subject to final approval by the SMC. Under the latter, the powers are well separated in the interest of checks and balances as integral to the presidential system of government. No matter how slow and frustrating the democratic system is, that is what you signed up for, Mr President, and there is no escape route. So when the security agencies try to undermine the courts, it is your duty to call them to order. You know this.

Mr President, while receiving Abuja residents on Wednesday during the now-traditional Christmas visit, you said and I quote: “I swore to hold this office in accordance with the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and God willing, I will follow the system diligently to the end of my term and I hope history will be kind to me…” That is it, Mr President. If you care so much about history, then you have a golden opportunity to write it. Sir Winston Churchill, the war-time British prime minister, once said: “History will be kind to me because I intend to write it.” With the three years and a few months left for you in office, you have to reshape the negative narratives about you.

Mr President, even if all these infractions are being perpetrated by “fifth columnists” in your government and you are not privy to them or you are only playing along because of the general framing as “national security”, you have a golden opportunity to leave a different impression by the time you finish your term in 2023. Do not allow the “fifth columnists” and the hawks in your government to ruin this opportunity under the guise of “national security”. In the end, it is your name, your reputation and your legacy — not theirs — that the future generations will remember. History can be nice to you if you decide to write it with your own hands, figuratively speaking.

Buhari silent as defence minister is named in $550,000 fund diversion
User Avatar Forum: General Discussion

President Muhammadu Buhari came under heavy criticism yesterday for his failure to act in the alleged indictment of his Minister of Defence, Bashir Magashi, for a $550,000 security fund diversion. Presidential spokesman, Garba Shehu deflected response on the allegation to the office of the Minister of Defence when The Guardian sought the presidency’s reaction on the matter.
Against a groundswell of allegations of cherry-picking on whom to prosecute in his anti-corruption offensive, Buhari is now directly fingered for shielding Magashi, who is accused of stealing and shipping $550,000 from the nation’s treasury to an offshore account. Magashi has been called out to explain his role in the slush amount he received from the infamous ‘Abacha loot’ estimated by Transparency International to be at least $5 billion, out of which $3 billion has been recovered.

Nigerians are incensed that Buhari still ignores the findings in the report. The president’s indisposition to bringing his key appointees to account came to the fore as Shehu maintained that it was not within his purview to respond to everything. “Direct your question to the man (Minister of Defence),” he told The Guardian when asked to respond to this latest allegation against his principal’s defence chief.

A leading online Nigerian newspaper provided more insight to corruption in the Buhari administration as it spotted what appears to be at odds with the administration’s sworn mandate to tackle corruption. It noted that it has been 123 days since Magashi was exposed as having been indicted for stealing and shipping abroad about $550,000 from the nation’s treasury. Yet, Buhari has failed to take action on the indictment.

The newspaper had on August 28 exclusively reported how Magashi, a retired major general, while in service, got a slice of the infamous ‘Abacha Loot.’ The Buhari government has since benefitted from several millions of dollars in returned funds from countries where the money was hidden. At the time, a presidency official, who asked not to be named because he had no permission to grant media interviews, said: “I can tell you that there is no way the president would have ignored that kind of matter to appoint him if he were made aware.”

But 123 days after, many Nigerians feel embarrassed that the president still ignores the findings in the report. Even when the newspaper contacted Garba Shehu before it went public with the report, he did not answer or return multiple calls and text messages sent over two days on why the president had not taken a stance on the allegations.

The silence of Buhari and his inner cabinet is already being interpreted as consistent with the administration’s policy of selective justice. Even critical government agencies which provide background information like the Department of State Services (DSS) have been fingered for turning a blind eye to Magashi’s alleged corrupt past before the Senate confirmed him.

While the presidency is taking a bashing for its allegedly choosy anti-corruption battle, the Civil Liberties Organisation (CLO) described Buhari as a leader who fights corruption with two different boxing gloves.

Ibuchukwu Ezike, CLO Executive Director told The Guardian yesterday that Nigeria will not win the anti-corruption war with a leader like Buhari who still thinks like a clan leader.

Also, a Warri-based lawyer, Otome Adamidenyo, was emphatic that the administration can only convince Nigerians it is committed to wiping out corruption by looking inwards and bringing to justice members of the Buhari inner circle involved in fleecing the country. On his part, Executive Director, Association of Media Practitioners Against Corruption and Instability (AMPACI), Ayodele Johnson, tasked Buhari to do more to restore public confidence in the anti-corruption battle. “It’s not enough to yell at public gatherings that the government is fighting corruption. Let Buhari arrest and prosecute his appointees indicted for stealing public funds,” said Johnson.

Motorists will have to endure additional 12 months of  nerve-racking traffic on the 35-kilometre Apapa-Oshodi-Oworonsoki-Ojota highway  in Lagos for its  reconstruction to be completed.

Minister of Works and Housing Babatunde Fashola, who inspected work on the road in company with President of the Dangote Group, Aliko Dangote, said on Sunday that the road would be delivered end of next year.

“We expect that by end of 2020,  the entire road network will be finished; you will have a road that will last for 40 years,’’ he assured.

The ongoing reconstruction is the first since the road was  completed in 1978. The first attempt to rehabilitate the ever-busy road at a cost of N15bn was in 2013. But, work  stopped immediately after the general elections in 2015 until 2017 when Dangote Group came up with a proposal to repair the road.

The proposal was for the concreting of the expressway from Creek Road  to Liverpool and through Marine Beach to Oshodi, Oworonsoki and toll gate on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

Dangote got Federal Government’s nod to reconstruct the road in 2018 at N72.9 billion and to enjoy 10 years tax rebate.

Since work commenced in 2018,  there has been traffic lockdown in the Iganmu area of Lagos and the Mile 2 –Oshodi –Oworonsoki axis of the road.

Efforts by the Lagos State Government and other agencies to tackle the problem have not yielded lasting solution.

During the inspection, Fashola said the Federal Government was committed to “speedy completion of the highway to provide a lasting solution to the problems of bad roads and gridlock ’’ faced by motorists, passengers, businesses  and residents of the areas affected.

The News Agency of Nigeria also quoted him as saying that   the  reconstruction was creating thousands of direct and indirect jobs and at the same time, advancing commerce because of the local content going into the work.

The minister, who was   Lagos State governor between 2007 to 2015,  explained that the project was creating wealth with thousands of trucks conveying iron rods, cement and other locally-sourced raw materials to sites where some 650 people were directly employed on various projects.

He said: “Businesses have started coming back on Liverpool Road because the road closed earlier is now back. You will see more of that.  All of the businesses that are shut on Creek Road will come back. We expect to see property redevelopment and property renewal once the road is completed.

“Once the economy of Apapa returns, all the clearing and forwarding, shipping, newspaper companies and all others doing business will resume fully and the economy will bounce back.’’

He lauded the private/public partnership scheme with Dangote and  pointed out that section two of the project, which was not part of the original contract was already showing signs of failure, due to heavy traffic.

“We are at the Oshodi area now and one side has been concluded and opened to traffic and this is how we intend to continue to complete and open, until we finish the entire road,’’ he  said.

Fashola , however, appealed for understanding of road users as the roads go through the “curing process”, saying that President Muhammadu  Buhari’s mandate was to build long-lasting and enduring roads.

Dangote lamented that the congestion at the ports, caused by gridlock had resulted to his group losing about N25 billion in accruable revenue from 2017 to the 2019 financial year.

He praised the quality of work taking place on the road, saying that the development was reviving commerce in the Apapa area.

He said: “This road will actually open up the economy. It will bring a lot of jobs and a lot of factories that have moved out will be able to move back.

“What I can also assure you is that this road will be finished before the end of next year.’’

Dangote, who is Africa’s richest man, commended the cooperation of Apapa residents, noting that the development was responsible for the progress of the reconstruction.

Police arrest 2 men in military camouflage for hijacking petrol tanker in Lagos

Two members of a gang which allegedly hijacked a truck carrying 40,000 litres of petrol have been arrested by the Lagos State Police Command.

The arrested suspects have been identified as 37-year-old Charles Obilomo and 35-year-old Osita Onyeka and it was gathered that four other members of the gang which hijacked the DAF truck by intercepting the driver at a bad spot on the Mile-2 Oshodi expressway on December 28, escaped with bullet wounds.

The truck's driver, 42-year-old Muhammadu Mande and his 34-year-old conductor Lawal Usman were reportedly kept in another car with four other members of the gang at gun point and were heading to an unknown destination before they were intercepted by a police patrol team at Itire.

Lagos State's police spokesperson, Bala Elkana disclosed that the arrest was effected after police operatives from Itire Division led by the Divisional Police Officer, SP Barkfur Kromkyes were tipped off by a reliable source.

He said;

Quote:“The two suspects in police custody, Charles Obllomo and Osita Onyeka took possession of the truck. The driver and his conductor were sandwiched by the four men in military uniform in the Toyota Corolla. The truck was driving behind the Toyota Corolla and heading to an unknown destination before it was intercepted by the Police.

“According to the driver, he initially thought the hijackers were military men on stop and search duty until they started beating him and his conductor and  threatened to kill them if they refuse to follow their orders. The two suspects were arrested in the truck and taken to the station. The four suspects in military uniforms escaped with bullet wounds after a fierce battle with the police. The truck and the Toyota Corolla were recovered and moved to the police station.
“Two pairs of vehicle plate numbers and military caps were recovered in the Corolla. The truck containing the PMS was handed over to the owner, Sani Samaila."

Control Blood Sugar - The Easy Way

At the point when my dad was determined to have diabetes, his first question was about how he could recover his glucose leveled out. Pills or needles. Fortunately my father has (up until this point) never needed to take the shots. Be that as it may, he is on a great deal of pills. Diabetes can ungodlily affect the human body. What's more, with his hypertension in the blend, you can envision how that is.

There are times when my father, who isn't the sort to gripe, will specify what number of pills he's on and that he wished he didn't need to take them. It very well may be so difficult to control glucose levels, even with medication. That is an unnerving idea. So here are a few hints on how you may have the option to all the more likely control glucose, regardless of whether you're on prescriptions or not!

Nourishments that are high in starches must be stayed away from. Those helpful handled nourishments must be hurled out. It's a hell of a penance, however it's superior to anything letting diabetes assault your body.

http://www.thehalkidiabetesremedyreview.com/

Organic products can be a deliverer or a revile, when you're looking to control blood glucose. Maintain a strategic distance from organic products that are high in sugar, yet grab citrus extract natural products, similar to rose apples, oranges, apples, and grapefruits. These have the special reward of helping an individual to get in shape, which will diminish glucose spikes.

Having a few (not only 3 or 4) glasses of water each day is urgent. Drink as a lot of water as you can, and ensure that you drink the base prescribed by your dietician. On the off chance that you should have flavors, attempt natural teas, particularly green tea, which is a phenomenal method to control glucose as it's a sugar blocker.

What's more, remember to practice every day. You won't see numerous outcomes except if you focus on practicing each and every day.

Daily Devotional for Monday 30th December

RHAPSODY OF REALITIES

MONDAY 30TH DECEMBER.

MEDITATE ON THE REALITIES OF THE GOSPEL
Meditate on these things; give yourself entirely to them, that your progress may be evident to all (1 Timothy 4:15 NKJV).

One of the problems that some Christians have bemoaned is the disparity between their personal experiences and the message of the Gospel that they “believe” and even preach. How do you preach healings and miracles as the works of God, and then get sick; or preach about financial prosperity, and are in deep financial difficulties? It shows that there’s a missing link.

Some may think the solution to this is intense prayer and fasting so they can “clean” up their lives and get rid of whatever may be hindering their “blessing.” “Perhaps, if I try to be a better Christian, things might change for good,” they’d say. But that’s not it; the Lord never asked us to try to be good or better; He already made us His righteousness.

It’s not about what you’ve done or didn’t do; it’s about Christ and your understanding, and appropriation of His substitutionary work to, and in your personal life. You can live your whole life preaching the Gospel, without really knowing what it is. For example, as popular as John 3:16 is, a scripture many people quote by heart, they’ve never had a grasp of the power and reality of those words. It says, “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”

Many see this scripture as a promise, but it’s a law; a sovereign declaration of the Almighty God, that anybody who believes in Jesus Christ, is separated, or severed from perishing; from suffering. It doesn’t end at that: such a person has everlasting life. Everlasting means imperishable, indestructible and incorruptible. That’s the life you’ve received.

How can anyone understand, and be aware of this kind of truth and live an ordinary life? You couldn’t know this and be a victim in life; it’s impossible! Meditate on the realities of the Gospel. It’ll make you think, talk and walk differently; your life will be an expression and manifestation of the message and blessings of the Gospel. Glory to God!

CONFESSION

I walk in the reality of all that the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ accomplished for me. I have eternal life; the imperishable, indestructible and incorruptible life of God, and it’s at work in every fibre of my being, keeping me in divine health, and warding off everything that’s inconsistent with the provisions of the Gospel. Blessed be God!

TALKINGSESSION

30TH DECEMBER.

KINDLY SAY THESE WORDS OUT LOUD.

Dear Father, You alone are worthy of all praise, and I extol Your mighty Name; You’re the healer, the provider, and supplier of all good things; You’re greater than all.

Your Name is great and Your dominion is everlasting; Your love, mercies, and compassion fill the earth! You’re glorified in my life and in all the earth.

I thank You for the presence of the Holy Spirit in my life, and the effectual workings of that power in and through me. Christ lives in me, and I am His extension in the world today, to touch, heal, bless, strengthen and uplift. I take advantage of this divine privilege of manifesting the glorious virtues in my spirit to others.

The Holy Spirit has granted me supernatural speed and an advantage in life. I’ve been divinely enabled to walk in righteousness, prosperity, health, success, and victory.

I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. I walk in greatness and superabundance today. Hallelujah! Faith is stirred in my heart even now, and I am strengthened in my spirit and positioned for the life of endless victories and possibilities.

Hallelujah! I’ve overcome the world; I am more than a conqueror; Christ is glorified in, and revealed through me, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.

God bless you

'Stop rejecting gunshot victims' - Lagos State warns hospitals

The Lagos State Government has strongly appealed to all health care providers, including public and private health facilities operating in the State to stop the trend of rejecting gunshot victims and other trauma patients on the excuse of requiring a police report or the need to provide evidence of funds before commencing treatment.

The State Commissioner for Health, Prof. Akin Abayomi who issued these statements on Sunday, December 29th while reacting to investigations by the Ministry of Health revealing that some health facilities in the State are in the habit of rejecting or delaying care to trauma victims which has in some cases resulted in avoidable loss of lives, noted that several times such patients are not in a position to discuss the incidence or finance and are often brought in by good Samaritans.

He urged hospitals, health centres and clinics to offer immediate comprehensive care to gunshot victims and other trauma patients without let or hindrance in line with the Federal Compulsory Treatment and Care for Victims of Gunshot Act, 2017.

Quote:“These deaths would have been avoided if health care providers were conversant with the Compulsory Treatment and Care for Victims of Gunshot Act, 2017 which stipulates that victims of gunshot and traumatic accidents should receive immediate treatment when presenting to healthcare facilities”, the Commissioner stated.
He noted that health care providers hold it duty bound according to their professional oaths to first save lives by offering immediate attention to any patient requiring urgent critical and lifesaving supportive care before any other considerations.
Quote:“Such critical care should include where necessary all measures to stabilize the patient before onward referral to more equipped facilities. Simple procedures such as attempts to arrest bleeding or intravenous fluids could make all the difference to saving life,” Abayomi said.
The Commissioner explained that the Compulsory Treatment and Care for Victims of Gunshot Act makes provisions for obligatory treatment and care for victims of gunshots stressing that the law stipulates that a person with a gunshot wound shall be received for immediate and adequate treatment by any hospital in Nigeria.
Quote:“With this Act, it has become legally wrong for healthcare providers to delay attending to victims of gunshots and any other trauma under any circumstances. It is in this wise that I want to make it clear that the Lagos State Government will not hesitate to explore this law and to apply suitable sanctions against facilities that contravene the principle and body of the act,” Abayomi stated.
While noting that the primary concern of the Act borders on access to prompt medical care, the Commissioner averred that the sanctity of human life should be the first consideration for any healthcare provider irrespective of circumstances leading to incident involving the trauma victim.

Female producers also demand sex from actors for movie roles - Actor Olusola Michael

Nollywood actor and filmmaker, Olusola Michael has revealed that actors are also victims of sex for movie roles pressure.

In an interview with Sunday Tribune, Olusola disclosed that most actors have been hiding the abuses they've been subjected to by female producers.

According to him, this might be because people hardly believe that male actors also face sexual harassment from female actors and female producers. He also alleged that the new crop of actresses in the movie industry are only seeking for fame and hookups.

Olusola said;

Quote:“Most people hardly believe that male actors also face sexual harassment from female actors and female producers. That’s the reality most male actors have been hiding .
"There are cases of female producers insisting to go down with a male actor before involving such actor in their projects . In the same vein, we have actresses who are always here and there as far as men matter is concerned”.

Lady narrates how her uncle escaped from kidnappers in police uniform in Delta

A Nigerian lady took to Instagram to narrate how her uncle almost got kidnapped by some men in police uniform after being flagged down at Agbarho/ Warri road by Urohbor hall, Delta State.

According to hennesse_, her uncle was arrested by men who claimed they were police officers who insisted on taking him to their police station after finding drugs he purchased from a pharmacy in his car.

She further revealed that her uncle jumped out of the car, after it dawned on him that he might be kidnapped by the men who drove past two police stations.

She wrote;

Quote:My uncle escaped kidnappers today in police uniform this morning at along agbarho/ warri road by Urohbor hall. This is the story
The men on uniform waved me down and requested that I should open my vehicles for a search . Of which I obliged.
After a thorough search of my vehicle and nothing was found, the saw a pain relieving drug (in sachet) inside my car handrest and they asked for a doctor's prescription that warranted me to get hold of such drug.
After a few explanations , and I told them that I purchased it from a pharmacy store. They insisted that I should be arrested and be taken to their station.
I then requested that i put a call through to my people or my lawyer for them to be aware. Immediately, they engaged their guns, pointed it at me , seized my phones and handcuffed me.
I then insisted they should tell me where they are taking me to, but they said when I get to their station, that I will know. *I then remembered of a story about one headmaster that was kidnapped by some* *uniformed police men along that same road and he paid 300k ransom before he was released* .
They picked him up from 9am and drove along side with him for a very long distance. And while in the vehicle, they started negotiating for ransom (from 3m till it got down to 300k). No reason for arresting him and he was threatened to be killed if he doesn't comply.
So we drove passed agbarho police station and they didn't branch. Got to DSC round about, I was hoping they will take me to ebrumede police station. Yet again we passed the station.
Then I realized I was in for something serious. My vehicle has this Central lock thing. So the moment you engage the gear system, the entire doors automatically gets locked down. So I first of all opened up my own side of the door from the Central luck. Lucky enough, they didn't notice it.
So immediately I got to Petroleum Training Institute (PTI) junction, they slowed down a little then I quickly opened up the door handle and jumped out of the vehicle while on motion, still on handcuff . There were crowed at the junction and I know that people must ask questions.
I started shouting and pleading for help from those at d junction

Last time I stepped into a bank for transaction was in 1985 – Pastor Tunde Bakare

The Senior Pastor of Latter Rain Ministry, Tunde Bakare has revealed that the last time he stepped into a bank for any transaction was in 1985.

The Pastor who spoke on the topic 'A Healthy, Robust Heavenly Bank Account', also disclosed that other times he stepped into a banking hall would be to sanctify a new branch.

Recalling how his mother was once told she will have bank accounts abroad, Vanguard reported that the Lagos-based Preacher said banks always come to his home for transactions.

Pastor Tunde Bakare said;

Quote:“I am not showing off as you will call it, I am only provoking you to charge up yourself.
“My mother was not a rich woman, but someone once told her that she would have bank accounts abroad and she laughed, but right now, she has a son that has bank accounts abroad.
“These things don’t really have anything to do with education…If I can run bank accounts without visiting the banks, you too can. I don’t have two heads, neither does Dangote. Paying your tithe and offering doesn’t mean you have a heavenly bank account.
“If you think I am going to rush this sermon, you missed. I am going to go slow, after all, our president is ‘Baba Go Slow’ and I am his very good friend.
“To store up a treasure in heaven requires a different approach. Holding loosely and sharing freely and giving away heartily treasure for God’s kingdom purpose."

Sowore: 'You can’t release anyone on compassionate grounds' - Femi Falana fires back at AGF Malami

Human rights lawyer, Femi Falana has said Abubakar Malami, minister of justice and attorney-general of the federation, does not possess the constitutional power to release anyone on compassionate grounds.

Falana said this while responding to Malami’s claim that Omoyele Sowore, convener of the RevolutionNow movement, and Sambo Dasuki, former national security adviser, were released on compassionate grounds.

Quote:“The only reasons for the release of Omoyele Sowore and Sambo Dasuki revolved around our commitment to the rule of law, obedience to court orders and compassionate grounds,” Malami had said.
In a letter addressed to Malami, Falana said only the president and state governors are entitled to exercise the prerogative of mercy or release any convicted person on compassionate grounds.
Quote:“It is trite law that once a trial court has granted bail to any person standing trial for any offence whatsoever and the bail conditions have been met the detaining authority shall release the person from custody without any further ado,” he said.
“In other words, the refusal to release a defendant who has been admitted to bail by a trial judge is tantamount to contempt of court. Hence, before Sowore’s release, we had filed Forms 48 and 49 for the committal of the Director-General of the State Security Service to prison for contempt of court.”
“The government is not permitted to refuse to comply with the order of bail under the pretext of defending the security of the nation. Even under the defunct military dictatorship, detaining authorities were not authorized to incarcerate any person for “security reasons” in defiance of court orders.
“With respect, the federal government has itself to blame for the needless controversy that has trailed the release of the duo. But having belatedly deemed it fit to review your position and advise the federal government in line with the tenets of the rule of law you ought to have apologised to both Sowore and Dasuki.
“That is what is expected of you in accordance with section 32 (6) of the 1999 Constitution. It is not an occasion for grandstanding or an arrogant display of power.”

I will impart to you 4 simple activities to dispose of stomach fat that are anything but difficult to learn and that you can use related to your solid get-healthy plan. Continuously make sure to counsel your doctor before beginning any activity program and to extend your muscles and warm up appropriately before any activity so as to prevent from getting strains and sprains and pulled muscles.

The First exercise is fantastic for lessening tummy fat and is known as the Windmill. This is a well known football player work out. So as to do this activity, an individual stands with feet shoulder-width separated and hands loosened up to the side. That individual at that point continues to twist and turn their correct hand down to contact their left extraordinary toe, remain back up and afterward change to one side hand and bowing, contact their correct incredible toe. Do this for multiple times in 3 distinct sets for an aggregate of multiple times. This activity alongside a solid health improvement plan causes an individual to lose difficult stomach fat by focusing on the extra padding regions and the lower stomach region by extending and re-forming hanging external abs or diagonal abs and getting down to business the center and upper back muscles, legs and thighs. A generally excellent extending exercise and cardio practice too.

The Second exercise for lessening midsection fat is known as the Flutter Kick. This activity is performed while lying face down on a tangle. The individual at that point expands their arms out before them extending them to the extent they can while keeping them up off of the ground, while simultaneously completely broadening their legs behind them to the extent they can holding them up off of the ground. They at that point hold this situation for 30-60 seconds one after another, multiple times for three sets for a sum of 30 Flutter Kicks. Shudder kicks were promoted in U.S. Naval force and Marine Corps training camps and help in midsection fat decrease by prolonging the abs and conditioning them while simultaneously fortifying the center and lower back muscles. This thusly gives one a much less fatty appearance after some time.

The Third exercise for lessening stomach fat is affectionately called the Crunch. The Crunch is a variety of the standard sit-up practice which most if not we all know about and is in itself, an extraordinary method to help in paunch fat decrease. Be that as it may, with regards to activities to dispose of tummy fat, the Crunch is greatly improved structure. An individual can do a variety of this activity. A) They can stand erect with their luck run out while inclining toward two armrests and keeping in mind that supporting their chest area, bring their knees up to touch their jawline, or, B) they can set down on their back and essentially do something very similar, bring their knee up to touch their jaw on the other hand.

One more Crunch procedure which helps in diminishing stomach fat is where an individual lies on their back and swivels their hips while simultaneously carrying their knees to their jaw. This is done on the other hand for multiple times for three sets for an aggregate of 60 crunches. How does this guide in tummy fat decrease? This likewise extends the stomach muscles while simultaneously conditioning and building the muscles in the horizontal or angled abs and furthermore fortifies the center and back muscles, giving one a less fatty and toner guts while simultaneously diminishing tummy fat.

At long last, the Fourth exercise that is again extraordinary in diminishing stomach fat is known as the Bicycle. This activity is performed while you lie on your back. You at that point raise your hips and advantages into the air while at the same time supporting yourself with your hands on your hips and your upper arms level on the floor. You at that point continue to cycle your legs in a roundabout movement as though you are riding a bike topsy turvy. This activity is likewise another fun variety of the sit-up and crunch works out. It decreases stomach fat by again focusing exertion on the primary stomach center while extending the lower and mid back muscles, conditioning and fortifying and prolonging the muscles for a general more slender appearance. These are normally completed multiple times for three sets for an aggregate of multiple times. One more extraordinary cardio practice also for an additional advantage for your heart.

The Giants are picking sixth overall. The conventional wisdom is that Haskins could be the second quarterback off the board after Kyler Murray, but that kind of range of teams setting up meetings speaks to the uncertainty. With so many teams looking for answers at the position, there could be interest in trading up to get to Haskins. Jets General Manager Mike Maccagnan has already admitted he’d be willing to trade down from the third spot if the price was right, and these meetings might help teams decide whether they want to get involved.

Buggs is a quandary wrapped in an enigma. As many questions as there is answers. Buggs has the ability to make a impact with the Steelers, but does he have the requisite motivation? It really is all up to him.First of all, what is his positional fit with the Steelers? Conditioning could very well determine his level of impact with the Steelers. Fatigue can make cowards of us all, and Buggs struggled with conditioning during his time at Alabama. He was dominate in spurts https://www.thesteelerslockerroom.com/au...ter-jersey , but tired easily. If he added a little weight, he could prove to be a traditional run stuffing 3-4 nose tackle with some pass rush ability. If he dropped a few pounds, he could play DE and move inside to rush the passer. It will be very intriguing to see what the Steelers plans are for the young man. The selection could also be viewed as insurance in case the Gravedigger eventually decides he is being miscast as a 3-4 nose tackle.Isaiah Buggs is a low risk, high reward selection and offers tremendous upside. If the Raiders were actually considering a suspension for wide receiver Antonio Brown at any point in the last couple of days Bo Jackson Jersey , it comes as news to offensive coordinator Greg Olson. That was the word on Thursday and it certainly seemed like there was something in the air since Brown missed practice that day amid reports that he engaged in a verbal altercation with General Manager Mike Mayock. Mayock and head coach Jon Gruden felt the need to address the issue with reporters without saying Brown was under no threat of suspension and Brown’s agent Drew Rosenhaus said in interviews with Mike Florio of and others that the wideout hoped to fix his relationship with the team.According to Olson, though, there wasn’t anything to patch up or any uncertainty about Brown’s status.“I planned on having him all along,” Olson said, via Matt Kawahara of the .As with Brown’s post-apology claim that things have been “blown out of proportion,” it may be a case of the Raiders trying to move forward without continued conversation about everything that went down over the last two days because little of that conversation is a good look for the organization. He is always smiling, he has complete faith in his abilities as a defensive back, whether it’s at safety or corner and he proves it every day. But it wasn’t always that way.Tonight is the premiere of Hard Knocks. This is the second time Joyner has been on a team that was on the show. The last time wasn’t a great experience for him.“Aw, man, I was in a funk, man, I was in a fog and didn’t really want to watch Hard Knocks,” said Joyner. The ‘funk’ he was in was, of course, caught on camera by the Hard Knocks crew. Joyner was feeling pretty lost as to his role with the team under then coach Jeff Fisher. And it caused him to lose his passion for the game — something that seems unfathomable when you spend any time around Joyner now.In a teaser for the show, Joyner went to Fisher’s office and pours his heart out to Fisher.“I don’t know coach, I don’t know where my passion’s gone https://www.raiderslockerroom.com/authen...own-jersey ,” Joyner tells Fisher. “I work hard. I do want to be a starter for this team. What’s going on? If y’all don’t need me, let me know. And just release me and y’all can have y’all’s money back. That’s what I told them. I said I don’t play football for money. I said all these guys they be in the locker room, it’s about money, it’s about girls, it’s about cars. Coach, I love this game.”With that kind of role for Joyner, it’s understandable he didn’t make the show appointment viewing. That was Jeff Fisher’s last year as head coach of the Rams. Not coincidentally it was also Joyner’s last season as a part time starter. Since then he has been a full time starting defensive back — the past two seasons as a starting free safety under new coach Sean McVay and now as a starting nickel corner for the Raiders. He’s just little bit more excited to watch the show this time around.“Oh for sure. This time around,” Joyner said of whether he’s watching the premiere tonight.“his organization. It’s all been smiles and happiness.”Head coach Jon Gruden put a wet blanket on the party, making sure it was clear his players won’t be watching the show live though.“Maybe some guys will put it on, I don’t even know what it’s called where you can record it and watch it whenever you can, but we are not going to be eating crackerjacks and peanuts and watching it,” said Gruden. “We got meetings, we got the Rams coming in here and I know players I’m sure are excited to see the show and they’ve done a good job, the Hard Knocks people, putting together. I’m not going to say anything further because I’ll be in a meeting.”As for the rest of you, the show will come on HBO at 10pm ET/PST. But if you are on the West Coast and have HBO GO or HBO NOW you can catch it when it airs on the East Coast which is 7pm Pacific.Follow @LeviDamien

If Reed can grow into a player who’s a strong

Ryan Shazier‘s goal is still a return to playing in the NFL Royce Freeman Jersey , but the linebacker’s current role around the Steelers is limited to continuing his rehab and serving as an advisor to other members of the team. One of the players who is benefitting from Shazier’s mentorship is the guy drafted in hopes of filling much of the hole Shazier left behind on the defense. The Steelers traded up with the Broncos to take Devin Bush in the first round this year and Bush said recently that Shazier has been in his ear throughout his first months with the team.“We stay in communication on a daily basis,” Bush said during an appearance on WSVN. “That’s like my big brother, honestly. He’s just showing me the ropes, the ins and outs of the NFL and how to be a man.”The lessons seem to be going well for the rookie. Early reviews of Bush’s work in Pittsburgh have been positive and he’s set to be in a major role when the season gets underway in September. Could the rookie edge rusher break into Vic Fangio’s rotation on the Denver Broncos defense?" Denver Broncos FilmGIF Horse - Is Malik Reed the next Phillip Lindsay?New,36commentsCould the rookie edge rusher break into Vic Fangio’s rotation on the Denver Broncos defense?MDTI’ll readily admit that I’m guilty of overlooking Phillip Lindsay last spring. I saw the Broncos draft Royce Freeman in the third round and went bananas over him, even proclaiming that he’d be a dark horse for Offensive Rookie of the Year. I’ll own up to that and still think Royce will be pretty dang good, but strive to be better this year. My goal is to study up on all of 2019’s potential UDFA surprises. To make the roster, one of the rookies will need a mix of good health fortune, talent, and the opportunity to show it in the lead up to the regular season.Everyone knows Von Miller and Bradley Chubb are stone cold locks for the starting lineup, barring injury. After that, things get a lot murkier with Shaq Barrett in Tampa Bay and Shane Ray looking for tryouts.I’ll be the first to tell you I believe in Holland, but he’s relatively unproven in space. It’s an underrated skill for the Broncos new D, but one that can’t be dismissed. The Bears edge trio of Leonard Floyd, Khalil Mack, and Aaron Lynch played over 200 combined snaps in coverage last year. While they’re still asked to rush on most downs, versatility is a key piece of the puzzle. That’s one reason the trade for Dekoda Watson makes a lot of sense. As I wrote in the immediate aftermath: Watson gives Fangio a player who has played a 16 game schedule and brings special teams experience. While the coaching staff has said that Justin Hollins will earn time at inside, I do suspect he’ll be a factor on the outside. Watson means he won’t be forced into too much too soon. When it comes to off ball linebacker John Elway Jersey , Todd Davis and Josey Jewell currently look set at the starting spots. After that, it’s anyone’s guess. Hollins could enter the mix, but there’s definitely an opportunity to make an impression.Could Malik Reed?Reed started his collegiate career on the edge and moved to an off ball linebacker role as a senior. When I’ve watched Reed’s tape, he looks exactly how I’d expect an edge rusher to look in his first season playing off the ball. He has a very quick first step and does a good job of deking out blockers to dip and bend the edge. Reed does not possess a lot in terms of hand moves, and with his arm length (only 31”), it may be too much to ask for. Nevada moved Reed around as a chess piece a lot in 2018. He was used off both edges and as a true off ball player. In pursuit, he will get caught in trash and need to improve upon this at the next level. He does put forth an admirable effort to chase down plays. While a 4.8 40 time isn’t going to wow you in the middle of draft season, he’s fast enough in pads to force stops. That said, he still shined the most coming off the edge in 2018 where he can beat opponents with his first step and pressure the passer. In this regard he looks like a natural, albeit one with notable physical limitations.Reed’s stature, quickness, and bend could help him find a role at the next level. I looked at Vic Fangio’s defensive players the last 3 seasons and the one who most closely resembles Reed is another undrafted player: Isiaiah Irving. Signed by the Bears after going undrafted in 2017, he found his way to playing time just last season. Like Reed, Irving came out of school a defensive end who lacked the kind of length you hope for. He saw most of his defensive snaps in relief of Mack.Reed was more productive at Nevada than Irving at San Jose State, finishing his career with twice as many sacks (22 to 11) and 16 more tackles for loss. Reed also chipped in 11 forced fumbles, or 10 more than Irving did.Irving played 116 snaps on defense in 2018.With that in mind, Reed is an inch shorter and 15 lbs lighter than Irvin. His tape suggests he won’t survive as a pure edge rusher in the league and will need to be a situational rusher who provides depth as a true linebacker if he’s to make it on defense. That means he’ll need to play off the ball and cover. I found that he does look a bit out of sorts when asked to drop into space and run with pass catchers. It’s not for lack of trying, and he should get better at this with more reps and comfort. In time Womens Joe Flacco Jersey , if Fangio asks him to cover short zones, he could be okay. His short area (6.89 3 cone, 4.35 short shuttle) quickness isn’t bad. Reed has a ways to go to become an NFL caliber defender in coverage. At present, Reed’s NFL ceiling looks like something resembling Nick Kwiatkoski, the Bears 2016 4th rounder pick. The former Mountaineer was a high school safety who bulked up to play linebacker at West Virginia. As such, he was a bit more comfortable in space as he entered the league, but had similar limitations against blockers. In 2017, he played well enough to get some hype from places like Pro Football Focus for his ability to rush the passer. In 2018, he was eventually supplanted by Roquan Smith. capable tackler, and adequate in space, it would be a huge boon for the Broncos defense. To reach his ceiling, Reed will need to be able to play in space.Luckily, Reeds enters the NFL at a time when nickel personnel and hybrid defenders are more valuable than ever. A former team captain, all reports suggest Reed is a hard worker. He was rewarded with the Wolf Pack’s Co-MVP following his Senior season. He chose a coaching staff renowned for making the most out of linebacker prospects, and the Broncos need depth at both the inside and outside linebacker spots. It certainly looks like he’ll have every opportunity to prove he belongs.

SERAP, Others Ask Court To Stop Spending Of ‘n37bn On NASS Renovation'

SERAP, others ask court to stop Buhari, others from spending ‘N37bn NASS renovation budget’
......
Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP), BudgIT, Enough is Enough (EiE) and 583 concerned Nigerians have filed a lawsuit asking the Federal High Court, Abuja to “restrain and stop President Muhammadu Buhari and Mrs Zainab Ahmed, Minister of Finance, Budget and National Planning from releasing N37 billion allocated for the renovation of the National Assembly complex to the Federal Capital Development Agency and the National Assembly until an impact assessment of the spending is carried out.”

The groups are also seeking a court order to “restrain, prevent and stop the Senate President, Dr Ahmad Lawan; Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mr Femi Gbajabiamila and the Federal Capital Development Agency from demanding or collecting the N37 billion earmarked for the renovation of the National Assembly complex until an impact assessment of the spending on critical sectors and access to public goods and services, is carried out.”

In the suit number FHC/ABJ/CS/1633/2019 filed last week at the Federal High Court, Abuja, the plaintiffs argued: “The National Assembly complex should be a safe and conducive environment for those who work there. But spending ₦37 billion to renovate the place is not commensurate with the constitutional commitments to public services and goods; decreasing public revenues and increasing level of debts as well as the poor economic and social realities in the country.”

The plaintiffs also argued: “Spending N37 billion to renovate the National Assembly complex is self-serving, wrongful, illegal and unconstitutional expenditure of public funds, as it means less money for educating millions of out-of-school Nigerian children, providing access to clean water and healthcare to Nigerians including the elderly, or repairing the country’s roads and bridges.”

The 583 concerned Nigerians who joined the suit as co-plaintiffs include: Bring Back Our Girls (BBOG) co-convener Aisha Yesufu; Nigerian singer and actor Banky Wellington; Mrs Ayo Obe; Dr Abiola Akiyode-Afolabi, and Fisayo Soyombo.

The suit, filed by Kolawole Oluwadare and Opeyemi Owolabi, read in part: “The defendants are public officers who have sworn the constitutional oaths of office to perform their respective duties in the interest of Nigerian citizens. The refusal of President Buhari to object to the Budget/Appropriation Bill containing a huge N37 billion on renovation of the National Assembly complex is a gross violation of the constitution and existing laws in Nigeria.”

“The National Assembly complex was reportedly constructed at the cost of $35.18 Million USD in 1999 and ₦40.2 Billion Naira was budgeted in December 2013 for the construction of phase III of the National Assembly Complex and renovation of the first and second phases of the complex.”

“The 2020 Budget is in deficit of ₦2.175 Trillion with anticipated revenue at ₦8.42 Trillion Naira and proposed expenditure of ₦10.594 Trillion.

“The present-day economic reality in Nigeria includes chronic poverty amongst a high percentage of citizens and the inability of many state governments to pay salaries of workers and pensions. Unless the reliefs sought are granted, the Defendants will take benefit of the allocated N37 billion at the expense of many Nigerians living in poverty.”

“The crux of the Plaintiffs’ argument is better expressed in the question: Why should the nation spend so much on a building when there are other important areas of national infrastructure that can be developed in order to affect a greater number of citizens?”

The plaintiffs want the court to determine: “Whether N37 billion proposed, voted and allocated for renovation of the National Assembly Complex in the 2020 Nigerian National Budget via Appropriation Act 2019 by the National Assembly and signed into law by President Buhari is not in breach of the Code of Conduct for Public Officers [Fifth Schedule Part 1] of the Nigerian Constitution of 1999 [as amended] and Oath of a Member of the National Assembly.”

The plaintiffs are seeking “an order of interim injunction restraining President Buhari and the Minister of Finance, Budget and National Planning, or their agents from releasing the N37 billion allocated for the renovation of the National Assembly complex to the Federal Capital Development Agency and the National Assembly leadership pending the hearing and determination of the Motion on Notice for an Order of Interlocutory Injunction filed contemporaneously in this suit.”

The plaintiffs are also seeking “an order of interim injunction restraining the Senate President Speaker of the House of Representatives and the Federal Capital Development Agency from demanding or collecting the N37 billion proposed for the renovation of the National Assembly pending the hearing and determination of Motion on Notice filed contemporaneously in this suit.”

The plaintiffs are seeking the following substantive reliefs from the court:

1. A DECLARATION that the N37 billion proposed, prescribed, voted and allocated for renovation of National Assembly Complex in the 2020 Nigerian National Budget via Appropriation Bill/Act 2019 is a breach of the Code of Conduct for Public Officers [Fifth Schedule Part 1] of the Constitution of Nigeria 1999 [as amended] and Oath of a Member of the National Assembly

2. A DECLARATION that the N37 billion proposed, voted and allocated for renovation of National Assembly Complex in the 2020 Nigerian National Budget via Appropriation Bill/Act 2019 signed is a breach of the Defendants’ solemn constitutional obligations to know and follow constitutional oaths governing their conduct, including their duties of care to Nigerians to faithfully protect and defend the constitution and improve the well-being and welfare of Nigerians

3. AN ORDER OF THE COURT restraining, preventing and stopping President Buhari and the Minister of Finance, Budget and National Planning from releasing the N37 billion allocated for the renovation of the National Assembly complex to the Federal Capital Development Agency and the National Assembly leadership until an assessment of the impact of the spending on critical sectors like education, health, clean water and safe roads a revision to the allocation, is carried out

4. AN ORDER OF THE COURT restraining, preventing and stopping the National Assembly leadership from demanding or collecting the N37 billion proposed for the renovation of the National Assembly until an assessment of the impact of the spending on critical sectors like education, health, clean water and safe roads a revision to the allocation, is carried out

5. ANY ORDER(S) that the Honourable Court may deem fit to make in the circumstance of this suit.

No date has been fixed for the hearing of the suit.

Dayo Amusa reacts after being dragged for saying she enjoys having sex

Dayo Amusa has fired back at trolls after being dragged for publicly admitting that she enjoys having sex.

The heated exchange came after the Nollywood actress shared her thoughts about sex and the stereotype attached to women having sex with different partners.

Dayo Amusa wrote;

Quote:The ish am about to raise here now might probably offend some of you, even if it result to an unfollown, Iyen gan tun nice. Proceed with caution
I enjoy having sex. I mean good sexual intercourse. You know the thing that people do that is acceptable in society if you're married, or if you've been in a partnership with somebody for sometime but most definitely not acceptable if you have sex with somebody on the first date or if you have sex somebody that you don't know all that well.  Why can't people just have sex for the sake of having sex? Why can't people just have sex for the sake of havings ex?
Why the actual fuck does a woman that enjoys having sexual relationships with a partner or partners automatically make people jump to conclusion that the woman doesn't respect herself? Why does a woman have to justify herself? I don't give a fuck if you sleep with 200 people or you've only ever been with 1 or none. I don't a fuck if you're sleeping with two, three or twenty partners. I don't give a fuck if  you have sex on the first date or wait until the 30th date. Want to know why I do't give a fuck? Because it's none of fucking business.
You know your body, and at the end of the day it's your body therefor you make the rules. Why are women being shamed for having sexual relationships? The sad part is majority of it is women shaming other women. SUPPORT EACH OTHER FOR FUCK SAKES. SEX IS A NATURAL HUMAN INTERACTION. Fuck who you want, when you want, where you want. You don't owe an explanation to anybody. And you surely are not 'disrepectin yourself' because you enjoy having sex. Be transparent,  and educate yourself before expressing such stupidity. But make sure you are playing safe o. Make safe choices

The actress was however forced to react to certain comments which attacked her career and accused her of not being a good role model and representative of the Yoruba culture.

NSCDC official arrested for allegedly defiling 7-year-old girl in Zamfara

An operative of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) identified as Sani Yahaya has been arrested for allegedly defiling a 7-year-old girl in Zamfara State.

Yahaya who lured the little girl with fruits into a vacant house at Samaru area, Gusau where he was deployed as a security guard, was arrested by his colleagues after a complaint was lodged against him by the victim's family.

Recounting how the incident occurred, the father of the victim said the sad act was exposed after his daughter started crying bitterly in the house, attracting the attention of passersby.

He said;

Quote:“Our daughter was sent on an errand by her mother close to the house where the Yahaya was posted to.
“As she was passing along the road, he asked her to come into the house to collect fruits. That was how he got the girl and forcefully defiled her.”

NSCDC Spokesperson in the state, Mr Aminu Maru confirmed Yahaya's arrest and further disclosed that investigation is ongoing.

He said;

Quote:“The corps member is still in our custody. The father of the girl reported the case at the command’s headquarters through the Intelligence and Investigation Department, complaining against one of our staff members, Sani Yahaya on alleged rape.
“While investigating the issue, the suspect said he did not have the carnal knowledge of the girl, confirming, however, that he grabbed her into a room where he gave her two nuts of umbrella tree.”

Describing the sad act as an embarassment to the NSCDC, Maru disclosed that Yahaya will be arraigned in court if a doctor confirms that the girl was raped.

RHAPSODY OF REALITIES

SUNDAY 29TH DECEMBER.

DON’T BEG…USE HIS NAME

Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth (Philippians 2:9-10).

If as a Christian, you find that you’re always crying and begging God in prayer for your needs, you’re not living in the Name of Jesus. We don’t beg in His Name. Don’t beg Him for your health or for anything. It’s a slap on His face. It’s like a child begging a responsible father for breakfast or dinner. He loves you more than that.

Do you think God doesn’t know that you have a pain in your body? You think He doesn’t know that you’ve been experiencing migraine headaches? Or that you’re behind in your bills? He’s aware.

But He wants you to change things! You have a weapon, an instrument; the Name of Jesus! Use it to effect a change in your body, in your finances, and any other area of your life. You can tell yourself, “I’m not going into 2020 in this condition or situation; I demand and effect a change, in the Name of Jesus!”

“Wake up and be who I’ve made you; realise the power in my Name and use it to make your life ever-glorious!” That’s what the Lord is saying to you, even now! Get rid of the pain and come out of that distressing situation. In His Name, you have a right to refuse anything that’s not of God in your life. Every sickness, disease and circumstance bows to that name.

It doesn’t matter what troubles you; you don’t need to cry for help; speak forth words in His Name, and you’ll be amazed at how quickly things will turn around in your favour. Practise using that Name, and build your faith on it through the Word. It’s a lifestyle. You’ve got to grow in it. It’s an environment to live in. Use it for every area of your life.

That’s what the Bible tells us: “And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him” (Colossians 3:17). Hallelujah!

CONFESSION

I live in the Name of Jesus; therefore, all things are working together for my good. There’s uplifting in my finances, job, business, family and everything that concerns me. I’m blossoming in divine health, in the Name of Jesus. Amen.

#AFFIRMATIONTRAIN

29TH DECEMBER.

I affirm that I am of a different breed; I belong to the God class! I am not a part of the suffering masses. God has handpicked me out of the masses; out of the corruptive influence of this world into the Kingdom of His dear Son.

I’m in a safe place; a place of authority and dominion. Hallelujah! My mind is blessed to think right, being the mind of Christ.

I think excellent thoughts, and see pictures of excellence, success, victory, and abundance.

My mind is programmed by the Word to stay continually on things that are true, honest, just, pure, lovely, of good report, virtuous and praiseworthy. Hallelujah! I am not a child of chance. God has prearranged my life for good.

I walk those paths that have been laid out for me before the foundations of the world and I prosper in all my ways. I am of the day and not of the night; therefore, darkness has no place in me.

I am the light of the world; my calling is to illumine the hearts of men. When I arrive anywhere, illumination comes, and confusion and perplexity are dispelled.

The Spirit of God has enveloped me and His hands are on me like never before. Glory to God. Hallelujah!

God bless you

FAAN’s spokesperson, Mrs Henrietta Yakubu said the intruder put up a struggle with AVSEC personnel on static guard duties at the area when they rushed to stop him from further movement towards the taxing Air Peace aircraft.

Yakubu said: ” At about 0850hrs of 27th December 2019, a young man of about 25yrs was sighted around the airfield by FAAN Aviation Security (AVSEC) personnel manning the Charlie One (C1) link/holding area.

Mrs Yakubu said the Managing Director of FAAN , Captain Hamisu Yadudu in company with the Directors of Aviation Security services, and Airport operations, , the Regional General Manager (SW) and the Airport Chief of Security (MMA) inspected the site of the incident and discussed with the Captain of the aircraft, who commended the action of the Aviation Security team. Quote:#JUSTICE FOR FAVOUR SEUN DALEY-OLADELE
FAVOUR SEUN DALEY OLADELE Aged 22yrs, a 400 level theartre art student of LAGOS STATE UNIVERSITY(LASU) was gruesomely murdered on the 8th of December 2019 at Ikoyi Ile in Ikire,Osun state . She came home to see her parents, attended church service on Sunday ,while with her parents that sunday, she received a call from one OWOLABI ADEEKO who was an ex Lagos State University student who asked her to meet with him at undisclosed location.
Favour had told her parents she would be going to school as well as seeing a friend that afternoon this person happen to be OWOLABI ADEEKO whom she met about two months ago . That same Sunday afternoon she spoke with her father and he wishes her the best of luck in her forth coming final examination.
From then on, everything started happening in quick succession, her phone stopped going through, she did not returned calls neither did she call any of her parents to inform them of her arrival at school . Unknown to the parents she had been murdered by OWOLABI ADEEKO an ex student of LASU in Collaboration with One prophet SEGUN PHILLIP who happened to be a serial money ritualist practising his satanic trade at Ikoyi Ile in Ikire, Osun state and One Mrs ADEEKO who also happened to be OWOLABI ADEEKO'S mother.
These three people and others gruesomely murdered Favour SEUN DALEY OLADELE. In his confessional statement, OWOLABI ADEEKO admitted inviting her to an undisclosed location before using One black Honda to take her to Fortress hotel at ikoyi ile ,later that evening OWOLABI ADEEKO and her mother ,Mrs ADEEKO lured her to prophet SEGUN PHILLIP place, introduced later as an uncle,Favour was drugged while at the named hotel, Owolabi futher stated that by the time they got to prophet Segun PHILLIP's place she was already tired, the three of them simply put favour under the tree close to an uncompleted well dug for that purpose, favours mutilated body was dumbed inside that well.
OWOLABI ADEEKO admitted futher that he used pestle to smashed FAVOUR'S head while prophet SEGUN PHILLIP admitted that he used sharp knife to cut favours throat. Prophet Segun PHILLIP also admitted in his statement that he caught her open ,removed her heart and certain parts of Favours body to cook native stew for OWOLABI ADEEKO'S mother. Mrs ADEEKO a collaborator in this evil scheme admitted eating the said native stew called(Aseje) so that her family misfortunes can be changed and so that she and her family can become rich.
Again it's important for us to appreciate the good work of the investigating officers but what is most troublesome is that the duo of OWOLABI ADEEKO and prophet SEGUN PHILLIP were boasting that they will soon be released by the police. We are calling on well meaning Nigerians to demand justice for Favour SEUN DALEY OLADELE, we are calling on Nigeria's Students to rise up through various medium to demand justice for Favour.
We are calling on good people within LAGOS STATE UNIVERSITY to use their position to demand justice for Favour. Favour was said to be pregnant at the time of this incident.. Please #justice for Late Favour Seun Daley Oladele and spread the news .These perpetrators must be brought to face the justice...#justiceforFavour-Oladele

I’m searching for new wife – Former Head of State, Ibrahim Babangida says as he opens up on life as a widower

Former Military President, General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida has opened on his life as a widower, 10 years after losing wife Mariam to Ovarian cancer.

In an interview with The Sun, Babangida announced that he is searching for a new wife. He however disclosed that his new wife will not be much younger than him as it might end up becoming a big issue for them.

He also wondered if his new wife will be able to live the way he lived with Mariam who died at the University of California’s Jonsson Comprehensive Cancer Center, Los Angeles on Sunday, December 27, 2009.

Babangida said;

Quote:“Yes, I am quite sure. I’m searching and I’m hoping. But the longer I wait, maybe, the more problematic it becomes.
“If it drags, I would be too old and the whole idea of having a partner would seem to diminish. But I will make sure [I have a partner] before reaching that stage.
“If somebody is in the corner, you could organize that in three or six months.
“And because it must be somebody you have known for a long time, or somebody you have been in contact with for a long time, you don’t just tell them look this is for marriage.
“But as time passes, and relationship building continues, it could end up in marriage.
“However, I have to be fair in my search. I really want to be fair. For instance, you don’t expect me to take a wife much younger than I am because that will be a problem for her and for me.
“I have to be fair. Secondly, I do wonder if she (the chosen one) would be able to live the way Maryam and I did, which is not easy these days. So, I keep on praying; and I think it will happen.”
