APC Reconciliation: Tinubu In Dilemma Over Grouse With Saraki, Oyegun
User Avatar Forum: Retired Forums. Please Make Your Post Within The 3 Forums In General Discussion
Posted by: Edoman - 02-09-2018, 08:40 PM - No Replies

Temidayo Akinsuyi, Lagos

Following the appointment of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, National Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) by President Muhammadu Buhari to reconcile aggrieved APC members ahead of the 2019 elections, indications emerged on Thursday of possible hurdles that may pose serious challenges to Tinubu’s efforts and may dent the party’s chances in the forthcoming general election.

Analysts said after a sweeping victory that brought the APC to power in 2015, the party could not consolidate its gains as evident in the increased bickering amongst party bigwigs at all levels especially among leaders of factions that came together to form the party in February 2013.

The party that emerged from the merger of Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), the Congress for Progressives Change (CPC), the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) and a faction of the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) is currently fragmented owing to crisis among leaders both at the federal and across some states of the federation.

APC chieftains have hailed President Buhari’s decision in giving priority to reconciling aggrieved party members and the appointment of Tinubu to lead the consultation, reconciliation and confidence building efforts toward improving cohesion within APC.

However, party chieftains who spoke with INDEPENDENT on Thursday said since Tinubu is not a neutral person and is deeply involved in some of the events causing crisis in the party, it remains to be seen how he as head of the reconciliation panel will initiate the peace moves between himself and some key leaders of the party which include President Muhammadu Buhari, Senate President Bukola Saraki and Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, National Chairman of the party, who he wanted sacked.

According to APC sources, the biggest conflict in the ruling party is between Tinubu himself and Saraki. Both men have been at loggerheads since June 2015 when Saraki against all odds defied the directives of the party and connived with senators from the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to emerge Senate president.

His action was seen by many as a direct affront to Tinubu, who wanted to install Senator Ahmad Lawan as the number three man.

Since his emergence, Saraki has been going in and out of the courts on allegations of corruption which many of his supporters link to Tinubu. Inside sources said both men hardly see eye-to-eye and stakeholders are waiting to see how the reconciliation between the two plays out.

Speaking with INDEPENDENT, a member of the party’s National Working Committee said the major hurdle before Tinubu is reconciling with Saraki, adding that this will go a long way in fast-tracking the healing process the party seriously craves for.

“To me, the major hurdle before Asiwaju Tinubu is how he will reconcile with Saraki. It is a tough task because given Tinubu’s influence, we are all wondering if he will be humble enough to go to Saraki and seek a truce. It is a herculean task but we believe nothing is impossible”, he said.

Stakeholders are also wondering how Tinubu will mend fences with Odigie-Oyegun. Though he was instrumental to his emergence as national chairman, Odigie-Oyegun in several of his decision-making process has gone against Tinubu as witnessed in his handling of the Kogi and Ondo governorship primaries leading to Tinubu’s demand for his resignation.

Kayamo Chambers Withdraws From Stephanie Otobo & Suleman's Sex Scandal Case

Quote:FESTUS Keyamo, lawyer to Stephanie Otobo – the Canada-based musician that accused the general Overseer of Omega Fire Ministries, Apostle Johnson Suleman of breaching a marriage proposal – has withdrawn as legal counsel to her from the case his chamber filed against the cleric.

This information emanates from Otobo who
also deposed an Affidavit of Disclaimer, stating, interalia, that the statement of defence filed at Ikeja high court, purportedly on her behalf by her lawyer was untrue.

According to Otobo, the statement and photographs exhibited in the court processes did not emanate from her.

“I was invited to my lawyer’s chambers to sign a bundle of documents but when I asked what the bundle of documents were meant for, I was deceived and told they were to be sent to the Nigeria Police to release my cell phone seized from me in March 2017 when I was arrested by the Police for blackmail and extortion, following the complaint of Apostle Suleman.

She said “with my affidavit of disclaimer, my lawyer quickly ran to Ikeja high court where the civil suit filed by Apostle Suleman against me came up for hearing, seeking to withdraw as my counsel.”

“In the said letter, my lawyer’s chambers surprisingly admitted that they never knew any known address of their client (Stephanie Otobo) despite having defended me so profusely.”

Confirming their withdrawal one of Festus Kayamo Chambers senior lawyers, Mr. Festus Afeiyadion, told newsmen that based on the videos their client, Stephanie Otobo, has released without informing them is the reason for their withdrawal.

Below is the affidavit deposed to by Otobo:

Chinese police are using smart glasses to identify potential suspects

Chinese police are using smart glasses to identify potential suspects

China already operates the world's largest surveillance state with some 170 CCTV cameras at work, but its line of sight is about to get a new angle thanks to new smart eyewear that is being piloted by police officers.
The smart specs look a lot like Google Glass, but they are used for identifying potential suspects. The device connects to a feed which taps into China's state database to root out potential criminals using facial recognition. Officers can identify suspects in a crowd by snapping their photo and matching it to the database. Beyond a name, officers are also supplied with the person's address, according to the BBC.
Chinese state media reports that the technology has already facilitated the capture of seven individuals, while 35 others using fake IDs are said to have been found.
The glasses have been deployed in Zhengzhou, the capital of central province Henan, where it has been used to surveil those traveling by plane and train, according to the Wall Street Journal. With Chinese New Year, the world's largest human migration, coming later this month, you'd imagine the glasses could be used to surveil the hundreds of millions of people who travel the country, and beyond, for the holiday period.
China's has been criticized in many quarters for the way it uses its database, and facial recognition tech, in relation to ethnic minorities. A system deployed in Xinjiang -- a province with a population of some 10 million 'Uighur' Muslims, is reportedly designed to notify authorities when "target" individuals go beyond their home or place of work, according to Bloomberg.
Uighurs have been the targets of roving VPN crackdowns and smartphone confiscation. Back in 2010, the government shut the region's internet connect for a 10-month periodfollowing violence between Uighurs and Han Chinese.

Morning Devotional For Friday 9th February

RHAPSODY OF REALITIES DAILY DEVOTIONAL (FEBRUARY PDF => http://bit.ly/2cuJG6M

*A PURPOSEFUL LIFE .*

Friday, February 9th .
Pastor Chris

_*Jesus saith unto them, My meat is to do the will of him that sent me, and to finish his work (John 4:34).*_

In Christianity, our lives have a meaning; there’s a purpose for your life. You’re not living for nothing. Jesus knew, and understood His purpose. In John 17:4, He said, _*“I have glorified thee on the earth: I have finished the work which thou gavest me to do.”*_ This ought to be your thinking as well; glorifying the Father should be your passion and purpose for living, and the way to glorify Him is to finish the work that He commits to your hands.

Have you discovered God’s purpose for your life? Do you know the specific purpose for your being? Are you at it? The purpose of the Father is the salvation of the whole world. That’s the reason He sent Jesus. The Bible says, _*“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life”*_ (John 3:16). The Bible says He’s not willing that any should perish but that all men should come to repentance (2 Peter 3:9), and that’s our job. We’re His partners in soul winning.

God seeks to beautify the lives of those around you, and lead them into righteousness through you; that’s living for His glory; that’s a purposeful life. You must influence your world positively and help those around you receive salvation through the power of God that works in you.

It doesn’t matter how fruitful or effective you might have been in other areas of your life, you must seek to excel in soul winning too. You’re a co-labourer with the Lord (2 Corinthians 6:1) in taking the Gospel to the lost, hopeless, hurting, and downtrodden in your world, and in the regions beyond.

Remember, a successful life; one that pleases God, is that which achieves those things that God has called you to do, and He’s called you to be a soul winner, a minister of reconciliation. That’s your purpose; bring him glory by being fervent and effectual in leading souls to Christ.

*PRAYER*

*Dear Father, I thank you for giving me the opportunity and ability to influence those in my sphere of contact with the power of the Spirit. I thank you for your blessings and extraordinary provisions in my life. I live to honour you alone, by dedicating my whole life to the expansion of your kingdom, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.*

*FURTHER STUDY:* *||* *Matthew 28:19-20* Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: 20 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, [even] unto the end of the world. Amen. *||*

*||* *2 Corinthians 5:14-16* For the love of Christ constraineth us; because we thus judge, that if one died for all, then were all dead: 15 And [that] he died for all, that they which live should not henceforth live unto themselves, but unto him which died for them, and rose again. 16 Wherefore henceforth know we no man after the flesh: yea, though we have known Christ after the flesh, yet now henceforth know we [him] no more. *||*

Multichoice, DSTV/GOTV To Shut Down June 2019
User Avatar Forum: Retired Forums. Please Make Your Post Within The 3 Forums In General Discussion
Posted by: Edoman - 02-08-2018, 09:05 PM - No Replies

Quote:The Federal Government may have notified the management of MultiChoice DSTV/GOTV that their operations, in Nigeria, will come to an end in 2019 as their license expires June next year.

According to a letter to that effect issued, on Tuesday, by the Nigerian Broadcasting Corporation(NBC), the license issued to them in 2014 by NBC will not be renewed because it was not in line with Digital Switch Over (DSO) White Paper.

If Multichoice DSTV/GOTV will ever operate in Nigeria again after expiration of its license, the only option left for them is to go to licensed Signal Distribution company, that is Pinnacle Communications Ltd or ITS.

GOTV has been accused of being used as a conduit to siphon foreign exchange from Nigeria by its parent company, South African Multi Choice DSTV.

Details later…

Quote:[Image: double-wahala-housemates1443301632.jpg]
Some Nigerians have condemned the Big Brother Naija (BBN) show saying it is a profitable show, but a cause for alarm.

The third season tagged “Double Wahala,” commenced some weeks ago with 20 contestants competing for a N45 million prize and a brand new SUV.

Some of the viewers of the programme told newsmen that the show was “an insult to their intelligence as it promotes immorality among contestants.”

They condemned how the housemates were kissing each other as if they had been legitimately being married.

Mrs Olabisi Afolabi, a mother of two teenagers said, “BBNaija becomes addictive when one indulges in watching it.

“I always engage my children in productive activities while the show is on. “My children are under eighteen. They should not be exposed to anything that is pornographic in nature.”

For Abimbola Coker, BBNaija shows should be censored by government approved regulatory agencies to remove all obscene portions before transmitting it for public consumption.

“Obscenity and nudity become rampant in the show and such should not be encouraged in our society.” According to Samson Ogunsunlade, “BBN has shaped the perspectives of youths to glamorize or embrace unethical and immoral scenes as if it is a convention. “It is an avenue to make fast money without meritorious cause and a perverse drama costumed with the facade called ‘entertainment’.”

Some viewers said that the organisers of the show should improve on its organisation to make it more educative because many teenagers were watching either legally or illegally.

“A balance should be created between fun and depth.” They, while comparing the 2018 show with the 2017 edition with the theme ” See Gobe”, said that the 2018 show had not been entertaining enough.

This is the second week the show kicked off and many Nigerians had said that it was not entertaining enough.
Cassandra Smith, a banker, said that the housemates were not serious and it appeared that they were more interested in catching some fun in the house than winning the whopping prize money of N45 million.

She said they looked unambitious and were attending to issues nonchalantly referring to when the housemates lost their wager in their first week in the house. “The housemates are not serious, they are there to entertain us, and they are not doing anything serious that compared to the housemates from the 2017 edition. “They should be made to sit up and entertain the viewers because that is the essence of the show,” she said.

Also, Hope Samson, an Accounting student of University of Lagos said that Biggy’s voice which was one of the endearing factors to the show was not audible enough. Samson said that Biggy’s voice was a brand on its own and wondered why such loud and baritone voice would be changed this year to such that was not audible enough.

“Biggy’s voice should be as clear and audible as that of 2017 because we see that voice as an attraction to watch the show,’’ she said.

Mr Alao Lawal said that the scrolling pad on the television screen was not clear enough for viewers to read comments. “ To me, the show has been interesting, mostly at night during their daily task but the information pad on the screen has very tiny characters which make it difficult to read through except one moves closer to the television screen. “I expect that this should be improved on,” he said.

Elizabeth Afolabi, a staff member with a courier service said that the show had been boring as only a handful of the housemates had been entertaining so far. Afolabi advised Biggy to work on them so that they would be themselves and stop being pretentious.

“In my own opinion, I am always finding the show boring each time I watch it because I feel the housemates are still pretending to be what they are not. ” Biggy should think of more tasking activities that will force them to bring out their true persons,” she said.

Mr John Ayilara said that the show should inculcate educative activities and minimise obscene scenes which could influence children negatively. “I see no sense in watching something that will not influence me positively and my children will not be able to come and join me to watch. “Indecent scenes should be avoided so that when children switch on the television set on their own, they should not be welcomed with immoral acts, ” he said.   3 Ways To Earn One Million Naira Before 2018 Runs Out -NigeriaOnlineBusiness.com
User Avatar Forum: Business/Investment
Posted by: Edoman - 02-08-2018, 08:57 PM - No Replies

Quote:At Nigeria Online Business, we have been enlightening Nigerians on different earning opportunities that can bring about financial freedom. In today’s post, we are going to be revealing to you some business opportunities that can earn you at least A million Naira before 2018 runs out.

If you are ready, read on.

1 Onion Products:

According to fact fish, Nigeria is the eight largest producers of onion in the world and produces about 4.3% of the onion produced globally. This translates into billions of naira for those that know how to utilize the opportunities that lies in onion.

I will show you 2 very important onion opportunities that can earn you a million naira in 2018.

First I will start with onion seeds: I know not a lot of people knows about what onion seeds are, these are very tiny seeds that are planted to get onion. They are much smaller than tomatoes seeds.

Onion seeds are mostly available for purchase between the months of august and September in the northern part of the country.

The unfortunate part of it is that most of the farmers that will need those onion seeds for dry season farming of onion are still battling with their farms and in most cases are church rat broke because of the expenses on their farms.

So, around this period (august – September), if you buy and store this onion seed for about a period of 2 months, the price can double up to 5 folds or more. I mean an investment of N250k in these seeds can yield over 1 million naira in profit.

Secondly, under onion products I will also discuss about onion itself

Onion stored during the months of august and September also doubles about 8 folds during December. Onions are abundantly available during august – September, so they are very inexpensive.

If you took a typical case study in 2017, onion that was selling for between N2800 to N3500 per bag during august in most northern states that produces onion when up to N28, 000 upwards in most other parts of the country in December 2017. This means that, a 250k investment will translate to over one million Naira in profit.

2. Sweet Potato Chips Production:

This business requires very little startup capital. The major raw material which is sweet potato is very inexpensive. What you require to get started are: wide frying pan, oil, iron drainer, vinegar and other spices, slicer and packaging. The package can be a white leather that have a seal and a little paper inserted for contact details and bulk buyers.

Let’s do some basic analysis. Cost of production per pack is N15, selling cost to hawkers and other resell outlets is N35. Profit per pack is N20. Let's say you have 20 hawkers that sells 20 packs each daily and 20 supply stores that sells an average of 10 daily. This will translate to 20 packs x 20 hackers = 400 x 20 profit = N8000 naira profit daily from the hawkers.

From the supply stores: 20 stores x 10 packs each = 200 x N20 profit = N4000 profit daily from the supply stores.
N8000 + N4000 = N12, 000 daily profit x 30 = N360,000 monthly. If you multiply by the remaining 10 months in 2018 we have N3.6 million naira.

3. Local Drink Production

These drinks can be any of the local drinks that are In high demand. They can range from “kunun aya, Ginger Zobo, Soy Milk” etc. you can also start in a very little way, you can borrow coolers, pots, big bowls etc and then buy your own gradually.

If you master the production this drinks, the profit per bottle depending on the form of packaging can range between N30- N70.

If your profit per bottle is N30 make your goal targeting 5 distribution outlets that can sell up to 30 bottles of the drink daily. This will amount to 150 bottles daily.

The Bayelsa State High Court preceded over by Justice Nayai Aganaba has sentenced 30-year-old Victoria Gagariga to death by hanging for killing her husband, Henry Gagariga on the 4th of February, 2015, in their Bayelsa home.

In Delivering the case is said to have lingered for 3 years after the death of the deceased, the judge said the prosecution called six witnesses and produced seven exhibits while the defence only had one witness who happened to be the accused.

Going through the records of cross-examination of the witnesses, Justice Aganaba noted that all evidences provided by the prosecution team showed that the suspect was guilty as charged and other facts also confirmed that she was the only person with the deceased as at the time of his death and so she was the one that killed him.

The accused who hails from Brass Local Government Area and is said to be an employee of the Bayelsa Arts and Culture reportedly stabbed her husband on the neck during an argument.

According to the judge, Victoria killed her husband out of jealousy and obsession.

He said;

It is unfortunate that I can only pronounce the sentence prescribed by law. I wish I had the discretion to do otherwise. However, that discretion rests with the executive governor of Bayelsa State. I am only left with the compulsion to pronounce the sentence prescribed by law. I hope that person the discretion would look at the circumstance of this case and do the needful. I hereby pronounce my sentence. My sentence upon you is that you shall hang on the neck until you die. May the Lord have mercy on your soul.

Petrol Scarcity Lingers As NNPC, DPR Search For Solution
User Avatar Forum: Other Stories

Quote:Insufficient supply of premium motor spirit (PMS) otherwise called petrol has continued to compel many fuel stations in different part of the country to ration the product causing queue of vehicles at retail stations to soar.

A record of daily PMS truck out to Abuja and environs since January 1, 2017 showed that PMS supply to retail outlets have been fluctuating since the beginning of the year.

The data obtained by our reporter in Abuja showed that in the last one week, daily PMS truck out has average 101 trucks but up 140 trucks were supplied late January.

However, the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) had in December said normal truck supply to Abuja was 70 daily claiming that additional trucks of petrol had since been deployed to Abuja.

This comes as the Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR) Abuja Zone has commenced daily monitoring of all retail stations in the city to ensure products received are sold to the public.

Speaking after inspecting some filling stations in the federal capital on Tuesday, the DPR Zonal Operations Controller, Abuja, Mr. Abba Misau said he would personally lead the operation to monitor fuel stations on a daily basis.

“There should not be any reservation for any customer. Whatever the type of customer you have to sell the product to the public. We cannot accept that anymore and we will continue to monitor,” he said.

Nigerian Man In Germany Commits Suicide After Being Jilted By Girlfriend
User Avatar Forum: Other Stories
Posted by: Edoman - 02-08-2018, 08:46 PM - No Replies

A 35-year-old Nigerian man, Francis Ibegbulem, has been laid to rest, days after committing suicide in Altenstadt Bayern, Germany.

It was reported that Ibegbulem, from Imo State, moved to Germany from Turkey in 2015 and he was granted 3 years asylum by the German government.

According to associates in the European country, Ibegbulm was said to have made an initial attempt to kill himself with a knife. He was then rescued by friends after which he ran into the forest to hang himself.

When friends didn't hear from him for some days, a search party was organised before his corpse was then discovered in a nearby forest.

The circumstances surrounding his death is still unclear, as some of his friends said that he used to complain about unseen beings following him around, and that he used to soliloquize, prompting his company to sack him.

Some of his friends are also of the believe that the man got jilted by a girl he left in Nigeria. He is reported to have invested so much in her but it eventually happened that the girl got married to another man in 2017.

The Nigerian man was said to have been seriously heartbroken over the issue and he spoke to himself most of the times, in what looked like he was already losing his mind.

According to media reports, one of his friends who was interviewed says:

"We made so much effort to rescue Francis when it was obvious he was losing his mind. Everyone was aware of the lady he was dating before he left Nigeria and news spread to use here that she got married last year. Since then Francis has not been the same"

Francis has been buried in Germany as no family member laid claim to his corpse in the country as well as from Nigeria

Loanee Matt Fined For Grabbing Denzel Dumfries' Manhood During Match
User Avatar Forum: Sports World

For grabbing the joystick of an opposition defender during a league match recently, Matt Miazga, Chelsea loanee, has been fined by Vitesse Arnhem.

Reports have it that the incident occurred on January 20th, during Vitesse’s 1-1 draw with Heerenveen.

Vitesse announced punishments for Miazga and Tim Matavz, who elbowed Dumfries in the same match on Wednesday.

Matavz according to the punishment, will serve a four-match ban imposed by the Dutch football association (KNVB) while both players were fined by the club for ‘inappropriate behaviour’.

‘First of all, we regret the commotion that has arisen,’ Vitesse technical director Marc van Hintum said. ‘We have fined both Tim and Matt directly after the events because they do not fit the behaviour shown within the fair play concept of the club.’

Cigarette, Alcohol Prices To Rise As Adeosun Proposes Tariff Review
User Avatar Forum: Business/Investment
Posted by: Edoman - 02-08-2018, 08:41 PM - No Replies

• Says economy is attracting huge interest from foreign investors

Quote:Ndubuisi Francis in Abuja, with agency report

The Minister of Finance, Mrs. Kemi Adeosun, is proposing increased tariff for cigarette and alcohol.

Her proposal is in line with the implementation of the ECOWAS Common External Tariff (CET), one of the instruments of harmonising member states to strengthen its common market agreed upon on October 25, 2014.

In a memo sent to President Muhammadu Buhari and seen by TheCable, Adeosun suggested that a two-part tariff be approved for tobacco products.
A two-part imposes two types of import levies on the same item.

Adeosun suggested a 20 per cent “ad valorem” tariff and a specific tariff of N1 per stick be placed on cigarettes and tobacco products.

She also suggested that a specific tariff of 35 kobo per CL be placed on beer and stout, N1.50k per CL on wines, and N2 on spirits and other alcoholic beverages.
Ad valorem tariff is levied as a fixed percentage of the value of a commodity.

According to the minister, this was a recommendation made by the Tariff Technical Committee (TTC), which is chaired by the ministry of finance with members from ministries of industry, agriculture, Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), Office of the Secretary to the Government and Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN).

“Further to the request, the chief of staff to Mr President requested for my views on the matter. As a result of this, the TTC deliberated on the subject and recommended for an upward review of excise rate on tobacco and alcohol, taking into consideration their health implications and revenue potential,” she wrote.

“In addition, it also recommended the introduction of a specific rate of excise on alcohol including beers and a mixture of ad valorem and specific rate excise structure on tobacco products in ECOWAS member states.

“In line with the recommendations of the TTC, I wrote and requested your excellency’s consideration and approval for the proposed revised rates of excise on alcohol and tobacco, vide letters: FMF/OHMF/TA/1/2017, dated October 30, 2017 and FMF/PHMF/ALCOHOL/1/2017, dated November 8, 2017.”

In November, Adeosun told the ECOWAS financial council of ministers that the federal government was working on policies to increase taxes on tobacco and alcohol.

In 2017, the World Health Organisation (WHO) called for increased taxes on tobacco products to discourage its use.
Nigerians smoke about 20 billion sticks of cigarette yearly, according to Isaac Adewole, Minister of Health.

Nigeria is also said to be the highest alcohol-drinking country in the world.
Meanwhile, Adeosun yesterday also declared that the Nigerian economy is increasingly attracting huge interest from foreign investors, noting that the momentum was occasioned by huge spending on infrastructure by the government.

She noted that such interest would translate into massive investments, culminating in the creation of jobs and a reduction in the poverty level in the country.

The minister spoke at the headquarters of the ministry in Abuja while playing host to a delegation of about 20 investors drawn from various countries and continents who are in Nigeria to discuss investment opportunities.

She said the huge investment which the federal government is making on infrastructure projects across the country was attracting fresh investments into the country.

The minister told the delegation led by a one-time finance minister. Dr Shamsudeen Usman, that in 2017 alone, the sum of N1.2 trillion was released for capital projects.

According to her, one of the cardinal focus of the current was to address the infrastructure deficit in the country through targeted spendings at projects that would unlock the economic potential of the country.

The minister noted that it was an auspicious time for investors to be in the country.

In her words, “It’s a great time for investors to be in Nigeria. For us, it’s a more better time now than last year because finally we think that we are beginning to address through deliberate policies, some of the most stubborn problems that have held back Nigeria’s growth.

“We have gone through a very difficult adjustments but we are seeing that the macroeconomic fundamentals are much more positive and the outlook is that they will remain positive.

“The goodness is that the narrative that we have been adopting around the reason for our reliance on oil we have actually beginning to take steps in terms of reducing our benchmark price by keeping it low, allowing us to rebuild some of our buffers.

“Our budget is predicated on lower oil price, and for me, we are discussing on revenue because we think that is the missing part of the Nigeria jig-saw.

“We always want to increase our tax-to-GDP ratio from six per cent to an initial target of ten and the long term goal is to be around the 15 to 20 per cent range,” she said.

The economy, she added has started seeing the impact of the expanded budget of the federal government with massive infrastructure investments in power, roads, and rails.

“Our commitments in solving the infrastructure challenges in Nigeria is firm because we think that is what would unlock growth in agriculture, and solid minerals and make us move away from our over reliance on oil,” she stated.

Wike Playing Politics With Benue Killings – APC
User Avatar Forum: Retired Forums. Please Make Your Post Within The 3 Forums In General Discussion
Posted by: Edoman - 02-08-2018, 08:38 PM - No Replies

Quote:The Rivers State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has accused Governor Nyesom Wike of merely playing politics with his Wednesday’s N200 million donation to the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in Benue State, while Rivers people are wallowing in abject suffering.

It expressed shock that whereas victims of killings and criminalities in various parts of Rivers state were licking their wounds and wondering where help would come from, but their governor was busy donating money in another state, creating the impression that all was well in Rivers state.

Rivers APC, through its Publicity Secretary, Chris Finebone, yesterday in Port Harcourt, stated that lofty as Wike’s gesture seemed, what he only succeeded in doing was classical and wanton display of primitive hypocrisy of the worst type.

The main opposition APC in Rivers said: “Beyond the highly politicised, self-serving and half-hearted visits to Omoku (in Rivers State, where 23 innocent worshippers were massacred on New Year’s Day), Wike has completely ignored the killings in various parts of Rivers State, especially in the local government area of his Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Chairman – Andoni (Prince Uche Secondus).

“The Rivers governor has neither mentioned nor visited Ajakajak and other Andoni villages, where many persons have been gruesomely killed. Why has Wike not gone to visit victims of killings in Rivers State and donate to their welfare, but chose to travel to distant Benue State to display crass duplicity? APC demands an answer from the Rivers governor.

“Quite disappointing to the APC is that some prominent Rivers indigenes (some of whose people are being killed in Rivers State) joined the Rivers governor to Benue State and even prayed at the graveside of the victims, while their own people are being killed in Rivers State, without any intervention by Wike and his government.

“We believe that the only purpose for the Rivers governor’s ego trip to Benue State is mainly to score cheap and pedestrian political points that have no value whatsoever to Rivers people. He (Wike) is only working in line with his belief that he is the de facto leader of PDP. Our people consider the current doling out of N200 millions of Rivers money as part of the billions of naira Wike is spending to sustain and exercise control over his political party – the PDP.”

Rivers APC also called on well-meaning elders and opinion leaders of the state to prevail on Wike to refrain from playing Robinhood with Rivers money, but to use the commonwealth of Rivers people to give the citizens meaningful development and not the superficial projects he had been deceiving the people with.

Having openly donated money, the main opposition APC equally called on the Federal Government and its security agencies to keep an eye on Rivers governor, in order not to donate “other things” secretly, given that reprisals were already happening in Benue state.

The Amanyanabo of Okochiri clan in Okrika Local Government Area of Rivers State, King Ateke Tom, has instituted a N1 billion suit against eight chieftains of the All Progressives Congress (APC), in the state over alleged defamation.

King Ateke, in suit No. PHC/345/2018, before a State High Court s in Port Harcourt, further demanded an apology from the APC chieftains on national newspapers for denting his character.

Defendants in the suit included, deputy governorship candidate of the APC in the 2015 election, Asita O. Asita, the party’s state Chairman, Dr. Davies Ikanya, Dumo Lulu Briggs, Sampson Ngerigbara.

Others defendants in the suit included Prince Tonye Princewill, Sekonte Davies, Emeka Beke, secretary of the APC in the State and Lawrence Chuku.

The defendants were said to have, during a pro-SARS rally organized, in Port Harcourt, by the party, in which Ateke’s picture was printed in a banner and allegedly described as a criminal made a king by the State government.

The suit read in part: “On the 11th Day of December, 2017, at Port Harcourt, Rivers State, all the defendants falsely and maliciously wrote and published or caused to be written and published of and concerning the claimant in the way of his office as a Second Class Traditional Ruler recognised by the Rivers State Government in the form of Written Banner wherein his picture was displayed in his traditional regalia beside that of the Executive Governor of Rivers State, His Excellency Chief Nyesom Wike, with the following inscriptions on it”.

However, Ateke wants the court to compel the defendants to jointly and or severally pay him the sum of N1 billion for libel and defamation of his character.

Ateke also want the court to make an order directing the defendants to render a written apology in a prominent and conspicuous medium retracting the said offensive banner publication and publication in three national dailies.

He further sought a perpetual injunction restraining the defendants, whether by themselves or their supporters from making any further defamatory publication concerning the claimant or his office in any form whatsoever, as well as an undertaking to that effect.

Quote:There was a mild drama in Owerri, Imo State, on Monday when a man reportedly sighted his wife coming out of a brothel with an alleged boyfriend, identified simply as Okey.

A witness told our correspondent that a fight broke out between the couple when the man alighted from the car and queried the wife.

Sex workers at the brothel were said to have booed the man while the fight lasted. They reportedly held him as Okey and the wife allegedly beat him up.

Okey was reported to have broken the man’s head with a club.

The fight reportedly ended after the owner of the brothel intervened.

PUNCH Metro learnt that the brothel is on Amaigbo Street, Owerri, adjacent to an electricity distribution company.

PREGNANT WOMAN GAVE BIRTH IN AN AIRPORT BATHROOM, WALKED OUT WITHOUT A BABY...

[Image: woman%2Bmay%2Bhave%2Bgiven%2Bbirth%2Bin%...throom.jpg]

A pregnant woman is seen entering the airport bathroom, then she comes out without the pregnant belly and without a baby. She is confronted by a suspicious cleaner and she refuses the baby boy in the bathroom is her own, says that boy is 3 months old. Suddenly, she is nowhere. Police is now looking for her. Read below...

From the surveillance camera, she arrived at the Tuscon International Airport as an expectant mother, and walked out without her baby boy.

On Tuesday, the Tucson Airport Authority released new information about a Jan. 14 incident, including a video, revealing chilling new details about a woman who authorities say abandoned a newborn in an airport bathroom around 9 p.m. A rental call employee found the boy and a note.

“I just want what is best for him and it is not me. Please. Im sorry,” the note read.

The baby was found with a torn umbilical cord and responding medics clamped it to prevent any harm, an airport police report said.
[Image: a%2Bwoman%2Bmay%2Bhave%2Bgiven%2Bbirth%2...om%2B2.jpg]
Juana Quintana, a custodian, told police she encountered the woman and asked if she was okay after seeing pools of blood on a bathroom floor. The baby was naked with its eyes closed, Quintana said, but the woman said the baby was three months old and left in a hurried manner.

Quintana said she found bloody clothes in the trash can with paper towels on top in an apparent effort to conceal them.

The baby appeared healthy otherwise and was transported to a nearby hospital, airport spokeswoman Jessie Butler said in summary provided to The Washington Post. The baby is now in the custody of the Arizona Department of Child Safety, she said.

The airport authority also released photos of the scene and the handwritten letter found with the child.

“Please help me. My mom had no idea she was pregnant. She is unable and unfit to take care of me. Please get me to the authorities so they can find a good home,” the message said, scrawled on notebook paper in the voice of the newborn.

A handwritten letter found at the scene. (Tucson Airport Authority)

The note then switches to what appears to be a plea and apology from the mother.

The woman may have acted under assumption she was protected by regulations designed for new mothers to leave newborns with authorities without penalty. The law, known as  the safe-haven law or Baby Moses law, allows newborns to be left at designated areas like hospitals and firehouses to prevent the deadly practice of stranding unwanted babies. It applies in all 50 states, Puerto Rico and Washington, D.C., though states have differing regulations.

In 1999, Texas became the first state to pass a safe-haven law following reports of 13 abandoned babies in the Houston area in the first 10 months of the year, which prompted public outcry and legislative action, according to a Nevada state government review of the legal framework. The concept has roots in a similar series of abandoned babies in Alabama in 1998.

But the airports are not among facilities commonly designated as safe havens. Criminal charges have yet to be determined, the Arizona Daily Star reported, and the woman remains unidentified.

“We would like to know who she is but we’ve exhausted our resources,” Butler told the paper. In a summary of the incident, Butler said the airport police are not actively looking for the woman but will pursue any leads they receive.

In Arizona, babies must be under 72 hours old and unharmed to be legally abandoned, and has led to 40 rescues in the state and more than 3,300 nationwide, the Arizona Safe Baby Haven Foundation says.

The group lists six hospitals in the state where “drawers” are used to discreetly leave babies behind, though none of them are in Tucson. At one of the hospitals, Banner Thunderbird Medical Center in Glendale, a drawer is connected to an internal alarm that alerts hospital staff of a dropped baby, according to a 2014 story by Raising Arizona Kids magazine.

“We hear stories where a baby is abandoned, or a mother who has had a baby doesn’t know what to do, doesn’t know who to turn to. There are a lot of different things that are probably going through a mother’s mind. There is a lot of fear,” said Kimberly Marshall, a nurse practitioner and co-founder of the Arizona Safe Baby Haven Foundation.

WIFE ABANDONS HOME AFTER HUBBY SAW HER NUDE PHOTO WITH ANOTHER MAN
[Image: Woman-left-home-after-husband-saw-her-nu...tion-1.png]
Not her real photo.

A woman has abandoned her home after her husband discovered she had nude photos of herself with another man. The woman who has been married for 16 years has packed out of her home due to shame.

40-year-old Tawanda Kashaya said his wife, Caroline packed out of the house after he confronted her with the nude photos.

He said,“I do not know where she is right now. I have tried calling her number but it is not going through. “She is calling me with a private number and each time she calls she says I am angry at her because of what she did. I have reached out to her relatives but they are saying they have no idea where she is.”

Kashaya narrated that problems started when he noticed a change in his wife’s attitude, and when he called her attention to it, she challenged him to work hard to improve his sex ‘skills’ since he was
no longer hitting the mark.“My wife started behaving awkwardly late last year, sometimes, she could sleep across the bed and I had to sleep in the dining room or another spare room.

“A few weeks ago, she failed to turn up for a family get-together party we were having and that is when my first son said ‘mummy has gone home to her parents’. “I thought she was going to come back, but she did not until I lodged a report with the police,” Kashaya stated.

Kashaya said when his wife returned home, she did not say where she had gone and became uncontrollable until last Thursday when she told him that she was no longer interested in continuing with the marriage

“I told her if she was no longer interested in me, she had to give me a divorce token because that is our culture. I was stressed and started drinking too much beer,” added Kashaya.

Remy Ma Fires Tamar Braxton’s Husband As Her Manager
[Image: remy.jpg]
Rapper, Remy Ma, is officially done doing business with Tamar Braxton's estranged husband Vincent Herbert and has fired him as her manager.

Her  comeback career has been going all the way up since her 2014 prison release.

According to TMZ, the Grammy-nominated rapper said she’s had enough of Tamar and Vincent’s divorce drama, and decided to fire him because he’s more focused on repairing his marriage than he is on her career. In Remy’s words, he’s fallen short of his “promises” to deliver as a “super manager.”

It reports that Vincent came up short on promises of being a "super manager" for Remy, and her complaints include Vincent dropping the ball on basic manager duties like booking studio time, and scheduling performances.

Vincent his a solid list of talent on his roster, but sounds like Remy Ma is no longer one of them.

MODEL STORMI BREE SHADES KYLIE JENNER FOR NAMING HER BABY GIRL STORMI

[Image: Model%2Bstormie%2Bbree%2Bshades%2Bkylie%...2Bname.jpg]

We all know by now that Kylie Jenner's baby reveal and naming has amassed the most Instagram likes, beating Beyonce and Cristiano Ronald's. Showing just that little glimpse of her baby's face and revealing her name as Stormie Webster just made so many people happy, confirming that we are all so drawn to babies. Reactions to the announcement of Kylie Jenner‘s daughter’s name reveal have ranged from adoration to a few pretty harsh ones, with some likening it to a weather forecast rather than an appropriate baby name. But one model and fellow mom has a more personal reaction to Stormi Webster’s unique moniker: Stormi Bree.
The 27-year-old former Miss Teen USA didn’t appear to be very impressed to
now share a name with the youngest member of the next Kardashian/Jenner brood. She shared a black-and-white photo of herself with a scowl on her face, some side eye and the caption “Current mood?.”
Although there was no mention of Jenner or her baby, the post came about an hour after the 20-year-old reality star shared the first image of her daughter and revealed her name on Instagram Tuesday evening.

[Image: image?url=https%3A%2F%2Fpeopledotcom.fil...=1100&q=85]
Stormi Bree and Kylie Jenner
Fans immediately assured the model that she was the original, with one writing, “Chill you’re forever and always be the original Stormi.”
Others, however, felt she had no claim over the namesake. “She’s not the only one who’s allowed to have that name,” another wrote.

It’s no surprise Kylie revealed her daughter’s name plainly, and on her own terms. “She has a baby name [picked out],” a source told PEOPLE ahead of the birth, adding, “She is not selling baby pictures.”
Bree has some experience of her own in choosing unique baby names. In August, she and fellow model Lucky Blue Smith welcomed their daughter Gravity Blue.
Anyways, Kylie Jenner's baby announcement post on Instagram officially became the most-liked photo on the platform on Wednesday — surpassing the previously record holder, Beyonce’s pregnancy announcement.
Jenner revealed the baby’s name, Stormi, on Instagram in a post Tuesday afternoon with a picture of the newborn. As of noon ET on Wednesday, the post has more than 13.6 million likes. Beyonce’s February 2017 post has 11.2 million likes.
The reality TV and cosmetics entrepreneur had previously announced on Instagram that she had given birth to her first child on Feb. 1. Jenner, a member of the Kardashian clan, is in a relationship with rapper Travis Scott.

Jenner has 103 million followers on Instagram, making her one of the most-followed celebs on the Facebook-owned service.
“My pregnancy was one I chose not to do in front of the world,” the 20-year-old wrote in a Feb. 4 post on Instagram and other social networks. “There was no gotcha moment, no big paid reveal I had planned.” Now that her baby has arrived, Jenner has changed her tune in opting to share the news.

ISRAEL'S PLAN TO DEPORT AFRICAN MIGRANTS PROMPTS SOUL-SEARCHING

[Image: african%2Bmigrants%2Bto%2Bbe%2Bdeported%...Israel.jpg]
Dawit Habtai in Tel Aviv wants Israelis to know one thing: He’s an asylum-seeker, not a criminal."I only want to build my life here in Israel," the 40-year-old Eritrean said. "I'm willing to pay taxes and only want the chance to build a life here."

Admit Merhatsion, 28, another Eritrean, clings to the hope that she will be allowed to stay in the country because the alternative is simply unthinkable.

"I’m not happy here but I also don't have anywhere else to go to," Merhatsion, a mother of one, said. "If I go back to Eritrea, they will put me into prison." Merhatsion who says she got into trouble in her homeland after trying to organize an underground Christian prayer group, described a harrowing solo journey through Sudan, Libya and Egypt to reach Israel.

She pleaded with the Israeli people and government.

"I am asking the government not to forget their history," Merhatsion said. "Don't deport refugees — they, like us, were refugees and passed what we are passing now."

Under plans unveiled by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's government, Habtai and tens of thousands of other Africans will soon be expelled from Israel.

Habtai's plight and that of other mainly Eritreans and Sudanese has triggered a political firestorm, with some critics saying the country founded in the wake of the Holocaust should never turn away those in need. Pilots and doctors, among others, have struck out at the move and said they would not cooperate with any government efforts to remove the migrants.

On Sunday, officials started handing out notices to 20,000 male migrants, giving them two months to leave the country or risk being thrown in jail. These unmarried men are being given two options: go to prison, or take $3,500 and be transported to a third country — rumored to be Rwanda.

Members of the migrant community and their supporters fear that women and children will be next.

Since 2005, Israel has grappled with an influx of migrants prompted by neighboring Egypt’s crackdown on Sudanese refugees. Some 60,000 Africans crossed into Israel before a 130-mile barrier was finished in 2013. Around 20,000 have left since. At the heart of the dispute is how Israel, founded as a home for persecuted Jews, integrates newcomers while preserving its Jewish character.

Israel's official Holocaust memorial, Yad Vashem, has said the issue requires “as much compassion, empathy and mercy that can possibly be marshaled. The experiences of the Jewish people over the ages underscore this commitment.”

However, Yad Vashem's Jan. 25 statement added that it was “groundless and dangerous” to equate the issue of African migrants with the plight of the Jews during the Holocaust.

Habtai said that "anyone who is Israeli needs to look at these steps and think about their history and think that this will be with them in the future — the politicians will change but this will stay with you forever."

"What hurts me is that I see young people supporting these acts," he said. "They too can find themselves one day as refugees."

Habtai, who works at a hotline for fellow African migrants, described how he had been wounded after being drafted into the Eritrean army during a war with neighboring Ethiopia.

He said he realized then while living in "inhuman" conditions that he did not know what he was fighting for. Then Habtai was thrown in jail after being caught trying to flee Eritrea, he says, and was tortured for five years before getting out and smuggling himself to Israel. Netanyahu and his government have said they would not expel true asylum-seekers and instead were only going after economic migrants.

"Genuine refugees and their families will remain in Israel. We have no obligation to allow illegal labor migrants who are not refugees to remain here,” the prime minister said on Jan. 3.

Netanyahu and others in his government — which is dominated by nationalists — have defended their policy toward migrants, referring to them using the term “infiltrators.”

Howevers, critics accuse the government of acting in bad faith.

"It's unreasonable that only in Israel these are 'infiltrators' and everywhere else in the world they are refugees,” said Dror Sadot, of the Hotline for Refugees and Migrants, an advocacy group.

Matthew Knowles’ new book, Racism: From the Eyes of a Child, is the talk of the town. The 208-page memoir focused on his views of racism was officially released in December of last year via Music World Publishing, but it’s currently receiving mixed reviews because of his commentary regarding his family and how they’ve progressed in society because of their skin color.

Bey’s father – and former manager – was first under scrutiny last week after passages in the book told stories of Mr. Knowles’ dating life, which only included white women before he met his now ex-wife Tina Knowles Lawson. But as the book has received further review now that Matthew is making is press rounds, many are now questioning his comments surrounding Queen B and the ways her success is related to her skin color.

In a recent interview with EBONY magazine regarding the book, Knowles said, “When it comes to Black females, who are the people who get their music played on pop radio? Mariah Carey, Rihanna, the female rapper Nicki Minaj, my kids [Beyoncé and Solange], and what do they all have in common?”

The answer unfortunately is simple: they all have lighter skin complexions.

He went on to admit that he only began dating his now ex-wife, Tina Knowles, because he thought she was white.

Matthew Knowles’ comments were blunt, but we must ask ourselves, does he have a point?

SEE REAL REASON OBASANJO'S SON FLED HIS MATRIMONIAL HOME
[Image: OLUJONWO-AND-TOPE%2Bon%2Btheir%2Bwedding%2Bday.jpg]
Not only has Jonwo fled the home he stayed with his buxom wife, Tope, he is incommunicado and all efforts to reach him by his wife and in-laws have proved abortive.
Quiet, easy-going and unassuming Jonwo, who is not known for violence was said to have fled from his wife, who is one of the daughters of Chief Kessington Adebutu, as a result of the domestic violence he has been suffering in her hands. A close friend of Jonwo, who craved anonymity told Kemi Ashefon thus:
“He left home around October 2017, which was about five months after his wedding to
Adebutu’s daughter. The girl is violent, slaps him and assaults him at will. She would tell Jonwo that she thought he is from a rich family but that she discovered he’s poor!”
Poor? Why would a wife of an Obasanjo’s son refer to him as poor?
“After their marriage, he was giving her N100,000 as feeding allowance for the home and she complained bitterly. She was not comfortable with Jonwo’s prudence and that had always been an issue with them even before they got married. She would assault him but he has never laid a hand on her because of his nature. Aside that, she would threaten to destroy his name in the media if he retaliates,” Jonwo’s friend said.

So, where is Jonwo now?

“The last time I spoke with him, he was not in Nigeria. He had to abandon the home because his father and in-law insisted he stayed with his wife despite the fact that he has reported her violent acts to them. They don’t want the marriage to crash in order to save their faces,” sources said again.
The wedding between Olajonwo Obasanjo and former Miss Tope Adebutu was indeed grand and had many crème of society present including first class monarchs.

Keep in mind Quincy Jones is prepping for a new Netflix and an American TV special.

Let’s start with what Quincy had to say about Michael Jackson…read the excerpt below;

I hate to get into this publicly, but Michael stole a lot of stuff. He stole a lot of songs. [Donna Summer’s] “State of Independence and “Billie Jean.” The notes don’t lie, man. He was as Machiavellian as they come. Greedy, man. Greedy. “Don’t Stop ’Til You Get Enough” — Greg Phillinganes wrote the c section. Michael should’ve given him 10 percent of the song. Wouldn’t do it.

I used to kill him about the plastic surgery, man. He’d always justify it and say it was because of some disease he had. Bullshit."

Quincy also mentioned his “PAST RELATIONS” with Trumps daughter Ivanka Trump;

"Twelve years ago. Tommy Hilfiger, who was working with my daughter Kidada. Hilfiger said, “Ivanka wants to have dinner with you.” I said, “No problem. She’s a fine motherfucker.” She had the most beautiful legs I ever saw in my life. Wrong father, though."

RHAPSODY OF REALITIES

THURSDAY, 8TH FEBRUARY.

Pastor Chris

TOPIC ✨ YOU HAVE TO SAY IT TO LIVE IT✨

For verily I say unto you, That whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith (Mark 11:23).

The most beautiful natural gift from God to man is the gift of words, the ability to speak and make words. You’re what you say. Your life is the summation of the words that come out of you. Our opening verse emphasises the importance of framing your life aright with your words. The principle is clear: what you say is what you get. Life will produce for you a harvest of what you say—good or bad.

Understand that in this, there’s no middle ground. Someone might say, “Well, I haven’t been saying anything at all; so I believe I’m going to be okay,” no; it doesn’t work that way. You’ll still have a harvest; howbeit, the wrong one. It’s like having a garden and refusing to sow any seed in it; something will definitely grow of its own accord—weeds. Sadly, the lives of some are that way. They don’t realize it’s their responsibility to keep themselves in victory, dominion, and prosperity.

God already did all that’s necessary for you to have and enjoy a transcendent life in Christ through the power of the Holy Spirit. It’s your responsibility now to keep things that way, and it’s mainly about your confession. You must affirm that you have a great life, if you’re going to live it! You must acknowledge and confess that you’ve been called to a life of glory and virtue; a life of power, beauty and excellence.

2 Peter 1:3 says, “According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue.” Now you can see that there isn’t anything you don’t have. This ought therefore, to form the basis for your faith declarations.

Never talk lack, sickness, weakness, inability or fear. Rather, keep affirming that you have and walk in divine health. Affirm that the Lord is your strength, your righteousness, your success, and your prosperity. Keep saying it and your life will go in one direction only—upward and forward.

CONFESSION
My life is the testimony of God’s grace. The glory of God is revealed in me today, as I walk in the Word and produce results by the Word. I’m full of strength, because Christ is in me; He’s my righteousness, wisdom, success, and prosperity. Blessed be God!

FURTHER STUDY: Hebrews 13:5-6 [Let your] conversation [be] without covetousness; [and be] content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee. 6 So that we may boldly say, The Lord [is] my helper, and I will not fear what man shall do unto me.

Mark 11:22-23 And Jesus answering saith unto them, Have faith in God. 23 For verily I say unto you, That whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith.

I affirm that I've been called into the class of God and the supernatural is my daily experience. I walk in dominion today because the Spirit of the Lord has mantled my heart and imparted divine courage to my spirit. Nothing in this world can stop or intimidate me from fulfilling my ministry of reconciliation committed to me by God. I live by faith and not by sensory perception, for what I see with my optical eyes are temporary and subject to change. I respond to the Word with my spirit, knowing that true faith is of the spirit! I rule, reign and dominate from within, for I have learnt to dominate from my spirit. Hallelujah! Down in my heart is the nature of the Father! The nature of God in me is righteousness; therefore I don’t struggle to do right. I am at liberty to serve God with my whole heart and do only those things which are pleasing to Him. Glory to God!

Benue State governor, Samuel Ortom, has explained why he did not go to neighboruing Nasarawa State to welcome President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday.

Many critics were wondering why Ortom failed to welcome the president, who doubles as his party leader at the event but rather sent his deputy, Benson Abounu to represent him.

Ortom in a swift reaction said he could not leave his people who were being killed by the marauding herdsmen to welcome the president, hence his reason to send his deputy to represent him.

He said, “I was invited by my colleague from Nasarawa state over the visit of the President. As a mark of honour and respect for his office and that of the president, I have sent my deputy to represent me because I cannot leave the state when my people are being killed.”

Cross River Benefited More In Buhari's Administration - Governor Ayade
User Avatar Forum: Politics
Posted by: Edoman - 02-07-2018, 10:03 PM - No Replies

Quote:Governor Ben Ayade of Cross River State has said that the state has benefited much more under the President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration.

Speaking in Calabar, Ayade said though the president was a Muslim and from the North of the country, he had shown practical interest in Cross River which was governed by a PDP governor.

He said the state got key federal appointments courtesy of President Buhari. Ayade said, “Never in the history of Nigerian politics has Cross River State benefited this much from the gale of appointments that have come to us. Head of Service of the Federation, Auditor General of the Federation, federal Permanent Secretary (Information), Chairman NDDC. We also have Minister of Niger Delta, Chief of Naval Staff, Chief Justice of Nigeria, the list is endless. We have never had it this good.

“The president is from the northern part of Nigeria while Cross River is in the south. This is a president who is an APC member while Cross River is a PDP state…This is a man who did not look at all biases and made a choice of Cross River State as the first state to perform his first working visit; this is unprecedented,” Ayade said.

Urging Nigerians to work in tandem with President Buhari’s “deep vision for the citizenry,” Ayade said, “work with full loyalty and support for Mr President to continue to do the good job he is doing. “You have an opportunity to reduce hunger; we cannot leave it for the president alone. The pressure he’s come under is occasioned by the poverty in the land,” he added.

Dana Air Speaks On Aircraft Door That Fell Off (photos)

The management of Dana Air has reacted to news going round on social media said the door of its aircraft fell off because a passenger attempted to open it.
DANA Air today debunked falsehood alleging that the door of one of its aircraft fell off after landing and whilst taxing in Abuja earlier today.

Some online publications had started posting reports that the door of one of the airline’s aircraft fell off but stated that the allegations were not only untrue and damaging but categorically could never have happened without a conscious effort to open it.

By design, the emergency exit door of our aircraft are plug-type backed by pressure, which ordinary cannot fall off without tampering or conscious effort to open by a crew member or passenger.

A statement by Dana Air of the alleged incident read,”We wish to state categorically that this could never have happened without a conscious effort by a passenger to open it.”

“By design, the emergency exit door of our aircraft are plug-type backed by pressure, which ordinary cannot fall off without tampering or conscious effort to open by a crew member or passenger.”

“We also wish to enlighten the author that, when an aircraft is airborne, it is fully pressurized and there was no way the seat or door could have been ‘shaking’ as insinuated.”

“A thorough inspection was however carried out on the said aircraft upon landing in Abuja, by our engineers and a team from the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), and no issue was reported. There was also no threat to safety at any point.”

“The flight was only delayed for 8 minutes as we needed to demonstrate to the regulators that the safety and comfort of our guests is at the centre of our operations.”

“We wish to apologize to our guests for any inconvenience such report may have caused and for the slight delay on the return service to Lagos.”

“A thorough investigation of the concerned passenger is ongoing.
As one of the oldest and most experienced airline in Nigeria, we remain committed to global best practices. “

Family Burnt After Using Phone Near A Gas Cylinder At Their Home In Lagos.Photos
User Avatar Forum: Other Stories
Posted by: Edoman - 02-07-2018, 09:53 PM - No Replies

A lady identified as Funmi Adewola, has taken to Facebook to warn Nigerians to be careful when using mobile phone near gas cylinder. The warning is coming after a horrific explosion which happened in her house recently in Lagos. According to her, the gas cylinder was leaking in the kitchen as she and her other relatives tried to fix the burner before it exploded after a message came into the phone.

Read her story below;

PHONE IGNITING GAS IS REAL, BE WARNED!

At about 1:30pm on Sunday 20th January, 2018 I was chatting on my phone in the sitting room in my house when I heard an hissing sound. On investigation it was my wife's niece and my Niece's daughter in the kitchen trying to fix burner onto a camp gas cylinder.

When the leaking persist the wife came from the room to help them fix the burner. I kept hearing the hissing sound of the leaking gas so I stood up with my phone in my hand and went into the kitchen to give a helping hand and luckily we were able to stop the lickage but already the kitchen was charged with the gas.

I warned them not to strike matches yet because the gas is much in the kitchen, at that moment a message came into my phone which was on vibration and the next I heard was was the explosion which threw all of us in different direction with different magnitude of burns as you can see in the picture.

I posted this to warn us all to be careful with phone when using gas.

May almighty Allah heal my family."

My view:

If you use gas to cook, please make it a habit never to go into your kitchen with a phone.

No call or message is worth your life, if you need to use your phone light to see, please put it on flight mode.

Same goes to those who use their phone light to refuel their generator.

May Nigeria Succeed...

Fake American Colonel Arrested After Impersonating EFCC Operative. Photos
User Avatar Forum: Other Stories
Posted by: Edoman - 02-07-2018, 09:51 PM - No Replies

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has arrested one Barr. Mike Nkwocha and a self-professed Colonel of the United State Army, Richardson Obasogie for impersonating EFCC operatives to obtain $10,000 by false pretense.

The victim had petitioned the EFCC alleging that one Ladan Mustapha who claimed to be an operative of EFCC, gave him a call informing him that there was a petition against him which bordered on illegal acquisition of assets in different parts of the country and that he was currently a subject of investigation.

Partnering with Nkwocha, a meeting was arranged, in which $200,000 was demanded in order to help “kill” the case, but $15,000 was later agreed upon as payment. An initial payment of $5,000 was eventually paid in cash to Nkwocha while he continued to pressure him for the balance of $10,000.

However, suspecting foul play, after a retired personnel of the DSS told the petitioner that EFCC operatives don’t demand money to carry out its official duties, the EFCC was petitioned.

Acting on the petition, the EFCC later arrested Nkwocha who confessed that Obasogie was the “brain” behind the fraud.

A search warrant was executed on their houses which resulted in the recovery of: letter-head papers of the United State Government, Department of state services (DSS), Nigeria Intelligence Agency (NIA), Independent and National Electoral Commission (INEC) and Bayelsa State Government and one computer system.

The computer system and other electronic devices found on them have been forwarded to the forensic department for further analysis.

Nkwocha and Obasogie who were both arrested on November 27, 2017 will be charged to court as soon as investigations are concluded.

Meanwhile, operatives are intensifying search Mustapha Lada, who is currently at large.

Four Truck Loads Of Fulani Herdsmen Invade Ondo Community
User Avatar Forum: Politics

Quote:THERE is palpable tension in the once sleepy town of Akunnu-Akoko community of Ondo State over the alleged invasion of suspected herdsmen in the area.

Reports emerged on Monday night that some vigilantes patrolling the town in the night got wind of the development and reported the situation to some community leaders.

The community is located in Akoko North East Local Government Area of the State.

According to Sun Newspaper, the herdsmen were conveyed in four trucks and they arrived their destination on Monday night.

Youths of the town have reportedly being protesting the presence of their visitors, calling on them to relocate as no tangible explanation was given to the community leaders on their mission in the town.

The Chairman, Akunu Akoko Progressive Union, Mr. Tunde Bayode, confirmed the incident.

The herdsmen were said to have left Iseyin in Oyo state for Akunu following an invitation by one of them identified as Doya Bello who lives in the community.

Condemning the invasion, Bayode, said, “This may be an attempt to engage our land in Fulani colony as proposed by the federal government.”

“We are calling on relevant authorities to come to our rescue and chase these Fulanis away. They are known to be arsonists, rapists and killers. We don’t want our land to be used for Fulani colony. This is unaccepted to us and they must leave our community,” he stated.

The chairman, Akoko North East Local Government Area, Mr. Rafiu Eniayewu who said he had moved round the town in the company of security agents urged the people to remain calm and not to take laws into their hands by causing crisis in the town.

The Police Area Commander in charge of the area, Mr. AbdulRauf Abduirazak, said the police are on top of the situation, saying that they are closely monitoring the activities of the Fulani herdsmen in the town.

Why Chris Kwakpovwe Snubbed Presidency, Lagos, Delta Governor
User Avatar Forum: Other Stories

*Openly Protests Killing by Herders…’Their Sponsors Will Go Down in Six Months’

In protest against the alleged killing of many Nigerians by suspected herders and in solidarity with their grieving family members, the General Overseer of the Manna Prayer Mountain, Dr. (Bishop) Chris Kwakpovwe who is also the author of the popular daily devotional, Our Daily Manna denied representatives from The Presidency, Lagos and Delta state governments the usual honour accorded them at the ministry’s annual World Anointing Night at the Tafawa Balewa Square, Lagos recently.

The functionaries of government were politely requested to stay away from the annual gathering of hundreds of thousands of worshippers.

Last year, the Chaplain of the Aso Rock Villa, Pastor Oluseyi Malomo represented Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo. The Speaker of the Delta House of Assembly represented Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, while also appearing in his own capacity. The wife of the Governor of Lagos State, Mrs. Bolanle Ambode was present as well.

This year, however, Kwakpovwe shocked the throng of believers when he announced that there was no place or special recognition for government functionaries at the meeting. This was a clear departure from the previous practice of allowing these Very Important Persons the privilege of addressing the crowd.

Visibly angry, Kwakpovwe said, “We are all stakeholders in this country. We cannot keep quiet when people are being slaughtered like animals. Some pastors are saying we should buys guns and fight them back. That is not the way to go. We have a weapon that is more lethal than guns. Mugabe was removed in a way that nobody can understand. When we come together like this, we have the authority to command things to happen. Who is buying those AK47 guns for the herders? Who are their sponsors? I declare that God is going to do a new thing that will shock people in this country. The killing is too much. Are we at war?”

The programme which was streamed live to over 200 countries witnessed a tumultuous thunder of, “Amen” from the congregation to his prayers against the sponsors of the killer herders. Kwakpovwe prophesied that “in six months from now, the sponsors of these killing spree all over the country will lose their hold on power. They will be exposed. They will fight themselves. There will be confusion in their camp.”

In an atmosphere of praise and worship featuring Pastor Kunle Ajayi on the saxophone, Praise Channel and the Manna Mountain Voices, there were evidence of diverse miracles of healing from different diseases and freedom for those who were possessed by demons. Persuaded by his team, Kwakpovwe later allowed the representative of the wife of the Lagos State Governor to present a sealed copy of Her Excellency’s speech (but it was not read) which he received with thanks.

Firing more shots at government at different levels, Kwakpovwe said, “many governors are my friends, but I do not take contract from them. The Lord warned me against it. I do not need money from government. If you take money from politicians you cannot speak against them when they go wrong.” The programme was held under the theme, 'Change of Garment' and the worshipers were encouraged to carry out a symbolic tearing of their clothes representing life circumstances that do not want to be associated with.

PDP, SERAP, Falana Condemn Harassment of Kassim Afegbua

• Media aide files N1bn suit against IG, others, to report to police Wednesday
Iyobosa Uwugiaren, Onyebuchi Ezigbo and Paul Obi in Abuja
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) and human rights lawyer and activists, Mr. Femi Falana (SAN), have expressed outrage over what they have termed the “intimidation and harassment” by the police of Mr. Kassim Afegbua, the spokesman of General Ibrahim Babangida over a statement he issued on behalf of the former military president at the weekend.

Afegbua had issued a statement on behalf of Babangida, in which he had counselled President Muhammadu Buhari to step aside for a new breed of leaders come 2019.
However, shortly after the statement was released, another statement purportedly issued by Babangida asked the public to discountenance Afegbua’s statement.
Even though Babangida was later to speak to THISDAY affirming the authenticity of Afegbua’s statement and saying that he stood by it, the police went ahead to declare him wanted for what it termed, among others, “impersonation and defamation of character”.
The police chose this path without any charges pressed against Afegbua by Babangida.
Reacting to the development, the PDP Tuesday cautioned the police and other security agencies not to allow themselves to be used by the sinking All Progressives Congress (APC) as instruments of persecution against Nigerians perceived to be against the re-election bid of the president.
PDP said it believed that the attempt to arrest Afegbua over Babangida’s declaration that Buhari should not be voted or to continue in office after 2019, was a ploy to set the table for a vicious muzzling of constitutionally guaranteed free speech and right to the opinion of citizens in the country.
In a statement issued by the PDP National Publicity Secretary, Kola Ologbondiyan, the party said recent distasteful events including unwarranted harassment of perceived opponents of the APC, supposed and actual presidential hopefuls, as well as opposition members, had shown that the APC has now gone into jittery mode, having realised that its chances of winning the 2019 general election have already vanished.
The party described the trend as a dangerous threat to the nation’s democracy and symptomatic of a failed party that is prepared to turn against the citizens in a desperate bid to hang on to power against the will of the people.
“We now have a terrifying situation where people are harassed for daring to aspire for certain elective offices or even express opinions regarding governance in the country.
“Nigerians and the international community have seen that almost all those who have openly expressed, or perceived to be nursing ambitions for certain offices, including the presidency, are now facing one trumped-up charge or the other, ostensibly meant to cow and discredit them.
“The point is that the APC has refused to wake up to the reality of the fact that Nigerians have already reached a consensus rejecting them and that no amount of threats, intimidation and persecution with state apparatus of power can subjugate or make them change that determined resolve to vote out the APC and its candidates come 2019.
“We, therefore, call on all well-meaning Nigerians to caution the APC. The fact that the APC is leaving office in 2019 has become inevitable and no one should be part of their desperation to completely ruin our nation before their exit,” the main opposition party said.
Equally, the civil society group, SERAP, strongly condemned the intimidation and harassment of Afegbua by the police over the statement he issued on behalf of the former military president.
A statement issued Tuesday by SERAP’s deputy director, Timothy Adewale, said: “Everyone has the right to speak out about political or other public interest issues. To do so cannot qualify as ‘making false statements’. And it’s certainly not ‘defamation of character’ let alone rising to ‘an act capable of instigating public disturbance’.
“It is the essence of democracy and human rights. Declaring Afegbua wanted is unwarranted because there is no evidence of inciting violence against him.”
According to SERAP, Afegbua’s statement did not contain incitement to violence, adding that declaring him wanted simply for exercising his right to freedom of expression was the hallmark of an oppressive government.
“The police should immediately withdraw its unlawful declaration and end the harassment of Afegbua. President Muhammadu Buhari should publicly instruct the police authorities that it’s their duty to facilitate people’s enjoyment of their freedoms, not to hinder them,” the civil society organisation stated.
Also joining in the condemnation, a human rights lawyer, Mr. Falana, however, said in a statement Tuesday that since this was not the first time that Babangida had disowned controversial statements made by him, Afegbua ought to have been more circumspect in issuing the statement.
“However, notwithstanding that the retired general has dissociated himself from the statement, the Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Ibrahim Idris has declared Mr. Afegbua wanted for alleged ‘character defamation’.
“By declaring Mr. Afegbua wanted when he has not failed to honour the invitation of the police, the Inspector-General of Police has overreached himself. It is undoubted that it is the Inspector-General of Police who has defamed Mr. Afegbua by portraying him as a fugitive of the law.
“Therefore, Mr. Idris is advised to withdraw the offensive declaration without any further delay.
“Having regard to the facts and circumstances of the issuance of the public statement by Mr. Afegbua and the denial by General Babangida it ought to be pointed out that no criminal offence known to law has been committed to warrant the action of the Inspector-General of Police.
“More so, that both General Babangida and President Buhari have not complained that the controversial press statement has defamed them.
“In fact, if the statement is considered defamatory whoever is injured would have to institute a civil suit where he will be required to put his own reputation in issue,” Falana stated.
He noted that now that Babangida has since turned round to insist that he authorised Afegbua to issue the “controversial statement it is hoped that he will be prepared to say so in a criminal court”.
“His testimony will go a long way
to destroy the criminal case which the Inspector-General intends to institute against Mr. Afegbua.
“However, the Inspector-General of Police should be advised not to popularise the discredited views of both Generals Olusegun Obasanjo and Ibrahim Babangida who failed woefully to institutionalise democracy, rule of law, human rights, self-reliance and probity during the 20 years that both of them had ruled the country,” he added.
But in a new twist in the saga, Afegbua Tuesday instituted a legal suit against the Inspector-General of Police (IG), the Nigeria Police Force, the Police Force Public Relations Officer, the Nigerian Television Authority, and Channels Television Limited, claiming N1 billion as damages for breach of his fundamental human rights.
The lawsuit was filed at the Federal High Court, Abuja by his lawyer, Dr. Kayode Ajulo.
Afegbua, in the suit, is also asking the court for an “order of perpetual injunction” restraining the respondents, their officers and their agents from the continued “witch-hunt, harassment, intimidation and persecution” on the basis of a letter he wrote on behalf of his principal, Babangida.
He further requested the court to direct the respondents to “stay all action and to desist forthwith from proceeding with any process whatsoever, including but not limited to any purported investigation, detention or otherwise, which is connected and associated with the letter he wrote on behalf of Babangida”.
Afegbua also asked the court to direct the respondents to apologise to him through the media of NTA, Channels TV and three national newspapers.
In his grounds for the case, Afegbua said he is a renowned journalist, publisher, writer, spokesman for the former military president, and a former Commissioner for Information in Edo State, adding that following the letter he wrote on behalf of his principal, that there was never a time he received any formal invitation from the Nigeria Police Force, hence there was no attempt to arrest him.
He further averred that he had not refused to honour any invitation from the Nigeria Police Force and IG, hence there was no basis declaring him wanted by the police.
The applicant added that by the police’s action, he had been painted as a “fugitive and common criminal with no modicum of dignity”, stating that he now lives in trepidation that he could be bundled by any individual or even killed by any law enforcement agent on the basis of the declaration of the respondents.
He added that the respondents had failed to adhere to procedures for declaring a person wanted and were in breach of regulations in this regard.
Afegbua further contended that his harassment and the threat of his arrest and detention were not for the public good but for ulterior motives and not based on a reasonable suspicion that he had committed any criminal offence, insisting that he had committed no crime.
The lawsuit, notwithstanding, Afegbua will report at the Nigeria Police headquarters in Abuja Wednesday.
According to Ajulo, who issued a statement on behalf of his client, Afegbua was on a trip and will be ready to report Wednesday.
Ajulo chided the police for declaring his client wanted without following the rules, saying that Afegbua has known addresses both in Lagos and Abuja and was not on the run.
He added: “Our client, however, remains undeterred by the desperate efforts of some individuals to intimidate him and bend his will and rights against the Constitution provisions, framework of Nigeria Police Force Act and the laws of the land.
“The circumscription of his constitutional right to the dignity of self freedom of expression and fair hearing denotes that there is a desperate attempt to scare him into submission.
“We have advised Mr. Afegbua of his rights and remedies available to him as a law abiding citizen of Nigeria. He has elected to make himself available to the police on Wednesday (today) once he returns from his trip.http://www.thisdaylive.com/index.php/2018/02/07/pdp-serap-falana-condemn-harassment-of-kassim-afegbua/

Saraki: EFCC’s Turnaround on CCT Chairman, Suspicious

[Image: 170316-Bukola-Saraki.jpg?resize=696%2C522&ssl=1]Senate President, Bukola Saraki

Damilola Oyedele and Alexander Enumah in Abuja
The President of the Senate, Dr. Bukola Saraki, has questioned the sudden turnaround by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over its decision to file corruption charges against the Chairman of the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT), Mr. Danladi Umar, after the same commission had cleared him of corruption allegations in April 2016.

In a post on his Facebook page, Saraki said the dramatic turnaround by the anti-graft agency was amusing.
The Senate President maintained his innocence of the three charges for which his trial resumed Tuesday at the CCT and expressed his confidence in the judiciary to do justice in all cases.
The post read: “I sympathise with the chairman of the tribunal, Mr. Danladi Umar, for his travails in the hands of the EFCC which suddenly woke up four days to the resumption of this case to file criminal charges against him.
“You will recall that in April 2016, when our lawyers asked the tribunal chairman to recuse himself from our case because of the criminal investigation against him, the EFCC swiftly cleared Mr. Umar of any wrongdoing.
“Now, I find it amusing that in a dramatic turnaround, this same EFCC now thinks that Mr. Umar has a case to answer just before the commencement of my case before him.”
What has changed since April 2016, he queried.
Saraki also noted that as much as many Nigerians want to continue to believe that his case at the CCT was merely about assets declaration irregularities, the manoeuvres, manipulation, intrigues and scheming and the “House of Cards” nature of the whole case have proven otherwise.
“I really wonder whether those who genuinely love this government appreciate the damage that all this is doing to our so-called ‘War Against Corruption’.
“However, in all of this, my confidence in the judiciary and its ability to do justice in all cases remains unshaken,” he said.
In an earlier post late Monday night, Saraki said he chose to appear before the CCT even though there was a pending appeal before the Supreme Court in respect of three of the 18 charges for which he had already been cleared by the CCT.
“This is following the verdict of the Court of Appeal which ordered that we should go and open our defence on three of the counts.
“My lawyers actually advised that we should apply for a stay of the CCT proceedings, pending the determination of the appeal that we earlier filed before the Supreme Court.
“But I have a different opinion. I feel that despite the pending appeal before the apex court, I should and will put up my defence as regards the three counts.
“I am convinced of my innocence on these counts and confident consequently of a favourable decision of the tribunal on them. This has always been my position from day one.
“My greatest interest has always been to clear my name as soon as possible and it is my hope that justice will be expeditiously served by the tribunal,” Saraki said.
Saraki Closes Defence
During the trial which resumed Tuesday, Saraki’s legal team closed its defence after calling on its first witness, Dr. Ademola Adebo.
However, Saraki, through his counsel, Mr. Paul Usoro (SAN), at the commencement of proceedings told the tribunal that he had lined up four witnesses to testify in his favour.
He, however, made a U-turn when his legal team decided to limit themselves to the first witness.
Shortly after the lone defence witness was cross-examined by the prosecution witness, Mr. Rotimi Jacobs (SAN), the tribunal chairman, Danladi Umar asked the parties for direction for further proceedings.
Mr. Kanu Agabi (SAN), the lead counsel to Saraki conferred with his client in the box and at the end of the conversation, announced that the defence would no longer call the remaining witnesses.
He consequently applied for an adjournment to enable the parties to adopt their final addresses.
The chairman of the tribunal subsequently adjourned the matter till February 27.
Although Saraki was arraigned in 2015 on an 18-count charge, the tribunal had on June 13, 2017, discharged and acquitted Saraki of all the charges in a no-case submission.
The tribunal had held that the charges against him were based on hearsay.
However, the Court of Appeal, in delivering judgment on an appeal filed by the federal government, upheld the dismissal of 15 of the charges and ordered the Senate President to respond to three of them, prompting Saraki to return to the CCT Tuesday

WINTER OLYMPICS 2018; AFTER QUALIFYING,THE NIGERIAN WOMEN BOBSLED TEAM HOPEFUL TO MAKE HISTORY WITH MEDAL WIN
[Image: Seun-Adigun-Ngozi-Onwumere-and-Akuoma-Om...ympics.jpg]
Wow! After achieving the seemingly unimaginable feat of qualifying for the forthcoming 2018 Winter Olympics in PyeongChang, South Korea, the Nigerian Women Bobsled and Skeleton team are hoping to go a step further by winning a medal at the competition.

Ngozi Onwumere, Akuoma Omeoga and Seun Adigun will represent Nigeria in the country’s first-ever appearance in the sport at the 2018 Winter Olympic which will hold from February 9 to 25.

Simi Adeagbo, who is the first African female Skeleton competitor, will also represent Nigeria at the 2018 Winter Olympics in PyeongChang, South Korea.

Ahead of their departure for South Korea, the quartet thanked their sponsors for their immense support for the team while adding that they would still want the whole country and indeed the

continent behind them as they compete for medals.

“We are blessed to be here representing Nigeria and Africa. For me it’s an honour, it is so humbling. We are also grateful for the investments from our sponsors TravelStart Nigeria and KLM for helping create the platform,” Adigun, the Nigerian bobsled team captain told PREMIUM TIMES in Lagos.

“We assure you that we have not come this far to give up but to make history. We want to make something special in Korea.

“The fact that we are pioneers in the sport in Nigeria makes it more delightful and the fact that we are already having a positive impact in the world is something that will spur us not only to participate at the games but also to compete for medals.”

Adigun who is the driver of Nigeria’s Women’s Bobsled team also recounted how her journey into the sport began.

“I was inspired by the members of the U.S. team and the coaches to do something to help the sport grow and bring more continents to the sport,” she added.

“It was important to try and help Nigeria get its first Winter Olympians, and also represent the continent of Africa in bobsledding.

“It seemed like it had grown to be so much larger than me at that point. It was almost like a calling from God.”

Onwumere, on her part, said: “To be the first to do anything is, I think, it’s just something that you can’t really explain.

“We don’t just want the dream to stop by qualifying for the 2018 Winter Olympics in PyeongChang but making history by winning.”

Omeoga, 26, who ran track at the University of Minnesota, said:” The sponsors flying us to Korea are awesome.

“A medal is almost too much to think of but actually that has never even crossed my mind yet,” she said.

“I’m just taking things one day at a time: Don’t get too ahead of yourself, don’t get too behind yourself, and don’t sell yourself short on anything.”

On his part, the President of the Bobsled and Skeleton Federation, Solomon Ogba, assured that Nigeria has a very good chance of making it to the podium at the Winter Olympics.

The former Athletics Federation of Nigeria boss said going by how the Nigerian ladies fared in their quest to qualify for the Winter Olympics, there is room for optimism that they will do the country proud in Korea.

Ogba revealed that plans are already being put in place to make sure more Nigerians at home and in the diaspora, embrace the Bobsled and Skeleton sport.

“Already, we have started taking the sport to the schools and the children are showing huge interest, we pray that with the success that we get in this first winter Olympics, many more people will come on board,” Ogba stated

For Philip Akesson, Country Manager of Travelstart Nigeria, the firm facilitating the travel plans for Team Nigeria to the Winter Olympics, they were endeared to the Nigerian women for their unrelenting attitude to reach their goals.

“As Africa’s largest online travel agency, we are excited to use our resources and our partnership with KLM Royal Dutch Airlines to get the Nigerian Team to their first Winter Olympics.

“The team’s resilience, passion, go-getter attitude towards achieving their goals are admirable, and is a message that resonates very deeply with our company values,” he said.

[Image: hospital%2Bwhere%2Bthe%2Byoung%2Bmum%2Bg...2Bbaby.jpg]
Hospital where she unexpectedly gave birth to a baby.

The young girl was rushed to hospital in pains with her parents believing she had intestinal disorder. But on arrival, the emergency department of La Arrixaca hospital quickly realised the girl was in the later stages of labour and about to give birth.

Police officers were called in to probe the identity of the dad and believe he was the older sibling of the child’s mum, a Bolivian immigrant.

Sources close to the case said the brother will not face any criminal proceedings under Spanish law if the theory is proven.

Spain raised the age of consent from 13 to 16 in 2013 but an exception is made if sex is consensual when the boy is of similar age or stage of development and maturity.

Consensual incest between adults is legal in the country.

DNA tests will now take place to confirm the family claims about who the baby’s dad is.

Regional Health authority boss Manuel Villegas described the case as “exceptional.”

Local reports said there was no evidence to suggest the two siblings had not had consensual sex.

Cops investigating the child mother said they suspect her brother was 13 when he got her pregnant.

BEAUTY CONTEST IN CRISIS AS FINALIST ANNOUNCES THAT HE IS ACTUALLY A MAN WHO WANTED TO PROVE THAT HE IS BETTER AT MAKE-UP THAN MOST WOMEN
[Image: beauty%2Bcontest%2Bfinalist.jpg]
A beauty contest was thrown into chaos after one finalist revealed that he is not a woman.  He decided to go into the contest after betting with his friends that he is better at natural make-up than most women. He then announced to them that they all; The organizers, the whole country and those who vited for him to get to The Finals have been conned. He said that he was making a point about beauty, saying that individuality and looking natural is more important. He confessed that he was a man when he felt that he had gone too far with his prank
Ilay Dyagilev, 22, fooled organisers by posing as Alina Alieva, beating 4,000 applicants to the last stage of the competition.
He said: ‘My friends and I, we had a debate on beauty, and I decided to take part in the pageant. I’ve always been a champion of natural beauty. ‘You can see that many young women look identical, the same make-up, the same style – and they believe that they are beautiful if they follow trends. I
don’t think so.’ But he decided to tell the organisers of Miss Virtual Kazakhstan that they had been conned, as had online voters from all over the country. ‘I came through to the finale and decided to expose the identity of Arina Alieva when I realised it had gone too far. ‘At the very beginning there were around 4,000 applications from across Kazakhstan, but I got to the final,’ he said.
[Image: make%2Bup%2Bphoto%2Bof%2Bbeauty%2Bcontes...nalist.jpg]
The organisers said they were ‘shocked’ by the revelation of the man from Almaty. Ilay’s confession led to him being removed from the finalists and replaced by Aikerim Temirkhanova, 18. She has scored 1975 votes in the semi final compared with 2012 for the fake Arina Alieva.
The imposter came through a semi-final which whittled the numbers down from 142 to 16. In neighbouring Russia last year, male student Andrey Nagorny, 20, posed as a lingerie model and won a contest. The ‘striking brunette’ used his girlfriend’s lingerie and makeup and called himself Ms Avacado. After the organisers discovered the truth in the contest on the Pacific island of Sakhalin, he was stripped of the title and prize.

Exxon Mobil Corporation at the weekend announced fourth quarter 2017 earnings of $8.4 billion and an estimated 2017 earnings of $19.7 billion, compared with $7.8 billion earned in 2016, just as Chevron reported fourth quarter earnings of $3.1 billion and annual earnings of $9.2 billion.

According to ExxonMobil’s results, the US federal tax reform in the fourth quarter resulted in a non-cash earnings gain of $5.9 billion, due to revaluation of deferred income tax balances.

Non-cash asset impairments of $1.5 billion were recorded during the year, mainly relating to assets in the Upstream.

“The impact of tax reform on our earnings reflects the magnitude of our historic investment in the U.S. and strengthens our commitment to further grow our business here,” said chairman and chief executive officer, Darren W. Woods.

“We’re planning to invest over $50 billion in the U.S. over the next five years to increase production of profitable volumes and enhance our integrated portfolio, which is supported by the improved business climate created by tax reform,” he added.

Fourth quarter upstream earnings were $8.4 billion, including $7.1 billion from US tax reform and asset impairments of $1.3 billion.

Fourth quarter earnings excluding US tax reform and impairments increased $1 billion, to $2.5 billion, driven by higher prices as liquids realisations increased more than $10 per barrel.

Upstream earnings were $8.4 billion in the fourth quarter of 2017, up $9 billion from the fourth quarter of 2016.

Higher liquids and gas realisations increased earnings by $1.2 billion. Lower volume and mix effects decreased earnings by $110 million. All other items increased earnings by $7.9 billion driven by U.S. tax reform impacts of $7.1 billion, lower asset impairments of $847 million, and gains from asset management activity.

In a related development, Chevron Corporation reported earnings of $3.1 billion for fourth quarter 2017, compared with $415 million in the 2016 fourth quarter.

Included in the quarter were non-cash provisional tax benefits of $2.02 billion related to US tax reform and a non-cash charge of $190 million related to a former mining asset.

Foreign currency effects decreased earnings in the 2017 fourth quarter by $96 million.

Full-year 2017 earnings were $9.2 billion compared with a loss of $497 million in 2016. Included in 2017 were non-cash provisional tax benefits of $2.02 billion related to US tax reform, gains on asset sales of $1.44 billion, and impairments and other non-cash charges of $840 million. MONEY
Naira may depreciate to 386/dollar in H2 —PwC
Published February 7, 2018

Oyetunji Abioye

The naira may depreciate against the United States dollar at the Investors and Exporters Window to 386 from the current average of 360, PricewaterhouseCoopers has said.

In its economic outlook for 2018, which was released on Tuesday, the professional services firm said increased foreign exchange demand ahead of the 2019 general election might make the local unit to weaken.

The report read in part, “With the outlook on the oil price and level of reserves accretion ($40.6bn), we expect that the CBN would maintain the exchange rate peg of 305/dollar at the CBN window.

“In H2’18, we estimate a seven per cent exchange rate depreciation in the I&E window to 386/dollar, as FX demand increases and foreign investments slow ahead of the 2019 elections.

“Overall, the CBN maintains its multiple exchange rate regime, sustaining its intervention in the various FX markets.”

According to analysts at PwC, exports are likely to outpace imports on strong oil export revenues and shrinking import demand this year

The real Gross Domestic Product growth is expected to reach two per cent year-on-year on improvements in net exports and domestic demand

The professional services firm said investments would benefit from an improving investment climate.

It, however, said that some of this growth would be offset by uncertainty usually associated with election cycles in Nigeria

On monetary policy projection, it said, “Moderating inflation, exchange rate stability and a fragile economic recovery provide room for a rate cut. We expect only one rate cut in 2018 which would likely be capped at 200bps. The need to keep rate differentials attractive means Open Market Operations issuances would become more aggressive

“To offset the impact of pre-election spending and currency volatility, we expect a 200bps increase in the MPR to 14 per cent at the September meeting

RHAPSODY OF REALITIES

WEDNESDAY, 7TH FEBRUARY.

Pastor Chris

TOPIC ✨ DON'T ASK FOR STRENGTH…DECLARE STRENGTH✨

For this cause I bow my knees unto the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, of whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named, that he would grant you, according to the riches of his glory, to be strengthened with might by his Spirit in the inner man (Ephesians 3:14-16).

The Apostle Paul had such a beautiful and powerful understanding of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Consider His prayer in our theme scripture; notice that he wasn’t praying for himself, but for the church at Ephesus, that they be strengthened with might in their inner man by the Holy Spirit. He prayed thus for them because he knew that’s the level in which the Christian ought to function. He was already functioning at that level; recall in Philippians 4:13, he said, “I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.”

Have you come to know Him as your strength? Have you recognised Him as the strength of your life? David said in Psalm 27:1, “…the Lord is the strength of my life….” As your strength, you have nothing to fear; no impossibilities; no limitations; you triumph always, in every situation.

Affirm always that the Lord is your strength; that’s the language of the spiritually mature. Don’t ask God for strength; affirm He’s your strength. Declare, “I’ve been invigorated with might for every task. I can do all things through Christ who is my strength.”

Yes, before you received the Gospel, you may have been weak and timid, giving up easily and unable to face challenges. But thanks be unto God! The Bible says, “For when we were yet without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly” (Romans 5:6). Now, you’re turned on from within, by His divine power! You’re bold and courageous; audacious in faith.

The Bible says God has given us the spirit of power, and of love, and of a sound mind (2 Timothy 1:7); that has become your song. You can do anything without fear. Even now, affirm that you’ll do bigger things for the Lord, according to His power, which works in you mightily.

CONFESSION
The Lord is the strength of my life, and by His strength, I can do all things. I’m sufficient in His sufficiency, and therefore up to any task. I dominate circumstances. I reign and rule in life, according to His might that works in me mightily.

FURTHER STUDY: Colossians 1:29 Whereunto I also labour, striving according to his working, which worketh in me mightily.

Philippians 4:13 I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.

Exodus 15:2 The LORD [is] my strength and song, and he is become my salvation: he [is] my God, and I will prepare him an habitation; my father's God, and I will exalt him.

I affirm that I am born again; I have put off the old man and all his carnal desires. Daily, I yield myself to the programming of the Spirit through the Word of God and by so doing my progress is assured. The knowledge of God's Word in my spirit puts me over and gives me the advantage in life! Fear, sickness, poverty, and death have no place in me because I live by faith in the Word of God, which is my recipe for total success, victory, prosperity and divine health. At all times, my heart is opened to receive God's Word and live by it every day. I refuse to be swayed by the many contrary voices in the world; rather, I make a deliberate choice to look away from everything else and focus my gaze on the Word. By this, I continuously function in the realities of the Kingdom; making visible progress and move forward from one level of glory to the next and higher level of glory. Blessed be God.

Wike Blasts Okorocha For Granting Amnesty To Anchor Man Of Don Wanny
User Avatar Forum: Retired Forums. Please Make Your Post Within The 3 Forums In General Discussion
Posted by: Edoman - 02-06-2018, 11:06 PM - No Replies

Quote:Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State has declared that the amnesty granted by Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo State to cultists who killed 23 persons in Omoku, Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area of the state, has no impact in Rivers State.

Governor Wike spoke, on Tuesday, during the signing of a bill at the Government House, Port Harcourt, saying that the wanted cultists, said to be kingpins of the Don Waney’s gang, would be brought to justice.

He declared that the N20 million placed on their heads still stands, adding that security agencies would be empowered to bring the criminals to account for their crimes.

He said that the action of Governor Okorocha was a proof of the intelligence available to Rivers Government that the All Progressives Congress (APC) planned to grant amnesty to wanted cultists for political reasons.

The governor berated the APC and its officials for politicising security to the disadvantage of the rest of the country.

In the words of Governor Wike, “Just yesterday (Monday), the Governor of Imo State granted amnesty to the cultists we declared wanted. These are cultists of the Don Waney gang, who killed 23 persons on New Year day.
“These are cultists, who have been killing security agents. That amnesty offered by Governor Okorocha cannot cover Rivers State. These criminal cultists are still wanted for their crimes against Rivers State and her people”.
The Rivers State governor stated that it was wrong to introduce politics into security affairs because nobody knows what the outcome would be in future.
“There is no need playing politics with the security of lives and property. Before Governor Rochas Okorocha granted amnesty to those who killed our people, he did not deem it fit to call me.
“They should always weigh the implications of these actions to the security of the region. Whether you are in PDP or APC, there is no need to politicise security”, Governor Wike said.

Governor Wike also said despite the obvious political sabotage against the security infrastructure of the State, the Rivers State Government would continue to work towards improved security in the state.

Buhari Reinstates Usman Yusuf, Suspended NHIS Chief
User Avatar Forum: Retired Forums. Please Make Your Post Within The 3 Forums In General Discussion
Posted by: Edoman - 02-06-2018, 11:03 PM - No Replies

Quote:President Muhammadu Buhari has reinstated the suspended Executive Secretary of the National Health Insurance Scheme, Usman Yusuf.

Mr. Yusuf was suspended by the Minister of Health, Isaac Adewole, in June 2017, following allegations of gross misconduct.

A panel commissioned by the minister after Mr. Yusuf’s suspension later found him culpable of infractions that ranged from nepotism to theft of public funds.
An administration official familiar with the development told PREMIUM TIMES Tuesday evening that Mr. Buhari did not consider Mr. Yusuf’s indictment by a ministerial panel before asking him to return to work.

According to the source, the letter of reinstatement was sent to Mr. Adewole on Tuesday evening.
Mr. Adewole confirmed receipt of the reinstatement letter to PREMIUM TIMES Tuesday night, but did not elaborate on when Mr. Yusuf would resume or under which terms.
“It is true that the president has reinstated him,” Mr. Adewole said.

The reinstatement letter urged Mr. Yusuf to work closely with the minister upon resumption.
Presidential spokesperson, Garba Shehu, did not immediately respond to PREMIUM TIMES’ requests for comments about the development.

For the minister to cooperate with Mr. Yusuf will not be easy, said Eluma Asogwa, a legal practitioner.
“This is a humiliation of the minister,” Mr. Asogwa told PREMIUM TIMES by telephone Tuesday night. “He has sent a wrong signal and encouraged insubordination amongst heads of agencies against ministers.”
“This has now become a growing trend that does not portend well for our polity, it does not even augur well for the anti-corruption war of the president,” he said.
Mr. Yusuf did not immediately respond to PREMIUM TIMES’ requests for comments about his reinstatement Tuesday night.

The House of Representatives had demanded Mr. Yusuf’s reinstatement shortly after he was suspended, saying the minister was wrong and absolved the NHIS boss of any wrongdoing.

Mr. Yusuf had also replied the minister that he would not obey the suspension, saying the minister had no powers to suspend him.
PREMIUM TIMES broke the news of Mr. Yusuf’s suspension on July 6 over corruption allegations.
Mr. Yusuf, 54, took over the state-run health insurance provider on July 29, 2016.
But his reign at the agency has been fraught with graft controversies.

The suspension came weeks after the Senate launched investigations into his activities as the NHIS chief.

The lawmakers accused Mr. Yusuf of “corrupt expenditure of N292 million” which he allegedly spent on health care training “without recourse to any appropriate approving authority.”
The NHIS chief denied any wrongdoing.
The panel established by the health minister indicted Mr. Yusuf following which he was suspended indefinitely.

Mr. Adewole in a letter to the embattled NHIS chief, dated October 5, indicated that the committee that investigated Mr. Yusuf had submitted its report.
He said the report had been forwarded to President Muhammadu Buhari for further action.

Residents Flee Their Vilages Over Herdsmen Attack As Buhari Visits Nasarawa.PICS

President Muhammadu Buhari arrived Lafia, Nasarawa State earlier today for a day working visit. During the visit, president Buhari commissioned some infrastructure projects in the State. While the president visited, reports had it that the heightened tension in Nasarawa South Senatorial District has caused villagers to flee their communities.

It was gathered that people in the area were under siege as 25 villages of the area have been sacked by herdsmen.

According to the group, the deserted villages are Azer, Tamen, Bature, Agbara, Peter Agbede. Nguchi, Igbacha, Shatse, Gidan Sule, Ngur, Nyam Adaga, Cha, Tseiyo (Gidan Akpen), Ahima, Mori, Kpilaior, Che Tor, Chia, Anisa, Dooga, Mbamar, Rest house, Anom, Che Utsaha and Ikpe.

Meanwhile, a group under the umbrella of Concerned Indigenous Tiv People in Kadarko, Keana Local Government Area of Nassarawa State, claimed that the Tiv people were displaced from their ancestral home as a result of the alleged herdsmen attack since 15th January this year.

The group further alleged that despite the fact that the military had been drafted to the affected areas, the police were not properly liasing with the military for the military to credibly discharge their duty to get to the terrorists that sacked the villages.
