Giraffe Headbutts And Sent A Film-maker Flying 16ft Through The Air ,killing Him

A film-maker was horrifically killed after his skull was crushed by a bull giraffe in an attack at the safari park used to film ITV’s popular Wild at Heart series.

Carlos Carvalho had worked on most of the series of the hit family drama that featured a British family building up an animal hospital in the South African bush.

But the 47-year-old was sent flying 16 feet through the air while working on a feature film with Gerald the Giraffe after the animal headbutted him, causing devastating head injuries.

He was airlifted from the scene in Broederstroom, South Africa, to the same hospital where British safari park owner Mike Hodge is recovering from a lion attack in Johannesburg but surgeons were unable to save him.

Drikus Van Der Merwe was part of the filming crew and said he was stood next to Carlos when he was attacked.

'He started chasing the boom Player who joined our unit,' he added. 'The giraffe followed him but we didn’t feel threatened because he just seemed to be inquisitive.

'We started shooting close ups of its body and its feet. Then while Carlos was looking through the camera eyepiece Gerald swung his neck and hit him against his head.

'It came out of nowhere and Carlos didn’t even see it coming. He wasn’t aware of the danger.'

The tragedy happened at the popular 1,500-acre Glen Afric Country Lodge in Hartbeespoort which is 50 miles north the hospital he was flown to on Wednesday night.

Van Der Merwe said Carlos’s body lay lifeless on the ground until the on-set paramedic arrived.

'I could see he was unconscious,' he said. 'There was blood coming out of his eyes and ears so I knew he had a severe head trauma. But I never thought he would die.

'Out of all the wild animals we have filmed I can’t believe a giraffe killed Carlos. I suppose we get so used to filming animals that we become desensitised in a way.'

Moments before the attack, photographer Van Der Merwe took the final pictures of Carlos alive as he worked on rigging.

Owner of Glen Afric Country Lodge Richard Brooker yesterday told how he was killed.

He said: 'Carlos was standing in front of the giraffe, the animal spread its legs, bent its neck and swung its head at Carlos. It was a terrible accident and we are heartbroken.

'Gerald will remain at the lodge. He did nothing wrong.'

Carvalho won a number of awards since he began his career as a runner in 1992.

They included a Silver Lion at the Cannes Film Festival in 2003 for a public service announcement for Childline and a 2014 African Movie Academy Cinematography Award for his work on “The Forgotten Kingdom”.

Adult male giraffes which stand 18 feet tall and weigh up to 1.2 tons fight with their heads in what is called necking to prove dominance and for the right to access to females.

Carlos had his skull crushed by the horns known as ossicones on the top of the giraffe’s head .

The filmmakers Cape Town agent Sandi-Lee Slabbert said: 'The giraffe headbutted Carlos during filming and he was rushed to hospital but died that night from head injuries.

'He was an amazing, amazing man and fabulous to work with. Everyone loved him and loved working with him.

'He was very well known at Glen Afric where he filmed a lot. He is a very sad loss to everyone who knew him and the industry.'

The wildlife park is home to elephants, lions, cheetahs, giraffe, hippos and monkeys and overlooks the Magailesberg Mountains and is a popular spot for TV and film programmes.

3 Nigerians Arrested In USA With Fake Documents, $53k Cash In A Stolen Maserati.

3 Nigerians Arrested With Fake Documents, $53k Cash In A Stolen Maserati In Chicago.

Three Nigerian men arrested in Chicago in what was described as a stolen car packed with counterfeit passports, drivers’ licenses, and cash, are back on the street, after they faced relatively minor charges.

Mayowa Balogun, Danteni Tijani and Dolapo Badmus, were picked up on January 23, in a Maserati SUV which came back stolen out of Ohio. Police alleged all were carrying counterfeit passports and driver’s licenses, mostly from Great Britain.

According to Nbcchicago, the investigators said they also found nearly $40,000 in the car’s glove compartment, and over $13,000 in a coat elsewhere in the car.

Nevertheless, Balogun and Badmus, were charged only with possession of altered documents, a class 4 felony which allowed them to receive I-bonds and walk out of court.

The driver, Tijani, initially faced an additional charge of possession of a stolen motor vehicle. But that charge was later dropped.

Still, when Tijani appeared last week before Judge William Raines, when his attorney sought to have his bond reduced, exactly the opposite happened.

Raines set Tijani’s bond at $100,000, and ordered that he be placed on electronic monitoring if he managed to post that amount. Which he did, with the aid of a friend, less than an hour later.

Authorities were at a loss to explain why the charges were seemingly light despite the allegations that the three had obtained passports with their own pictures from Great Britain.

In court, it was presented that the documents had been obtained in short order for relatively little cost in Chicago. A spokesman for State’s Attorney Kim Foxx said prosecutors had insufficient evidence to make charges pertaining to the stolen car stick.

And that they had charged the document offenses to the fullest extent possible. The three are scheduled to appear in court again later this month.

Gunmen Kill Man Celebrating His Birthday In Lagos. Graphic Photos

More details of how a young man was killed in cold blood in Lagos - have emerged. According to reports, the deceased identified as Musty Sokoto was killed at a birthday party held in the Agege area of Lagos State after gunmen stormed the party and shot him dead.

Sources said Musty was a popular youth among the members of Hausa community in Agege, especially for his philanthropy.

It was learnt that the guests scampered to safety when some stern-looking gunmen suddenly invaded the party and opened fire on Musty at close range.

His killers were said to have fled immediately Musty fell down in a pool of his own blood.

“ It was like a scene from the movies when the fierce-looking men stormed the party and shot the celebrator dead. The young man was dancing with friends on the occasion when he was shot dead and his killers escaped from the scene as guests scampered into safety in nearby buildings.

“Although, the reason for his gruesome killing is unknown, but the late Musty was such an unassuming boy and did not keep bad company. Even the party he organised to mark his birthday was a small bash attended by his friends and associates.”

A community leader, Alhaji Tanko Abideen urged the police to unravel the mystery behind Musty’s killing and stepped up surveillance activities around Agege and environ.

He said: ” I am urging the police to fish out Musty’s killers and unravel the mystery behind his gruesome death. The police should also put in place a proactive surveillance of Agege community and fish out criminal gangs who might be killing innocent residents in the neighbourhood.”

Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor: "Eat Your Tithe And Die Quick"
User Avatar Forum: Other Stories
Posted by: Edoman - 05-06-2018, 03:01 PM - No Replies

Quote:IMMEDIATE past National President of the Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, His Eminence, Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor has described the payment of tithe, a one-tenth part of something, paid as a contribution to a religious organization or compulsory tax to government, as ageless.

Teaching in his church’s Word Of Life Eagles’ Devotional on Tuesday, May 1, 2018, the first Pentecostal President of CAN said there should be no controversy over the payment of tithe, because it’s ageless.

Drawing inspiration from Genesis 14:20 which says: “And blessed be the most high God, which hath delivered thine enemies into thy hand. And he gave him tithes of all,” Oritse-jafor who has been preaching and teaching the Word for over 45 years, find it is interesting why some Christians debate whether or not to tithe.

According to him, “Abraham paid his tithe about 500 years before Moses gave the Law. God began the principle of tithing at the Garden of Eden. The Bible records that ’the LORD God took the man, and put him into the Garden of Eden to dress it and to keep it’ (Genesis 2:15). By implication, God employed the man.”

Continuing, he said: “In Genesis 2:16, for the work that man did, God paid him wages: ’And the LORD God commanded the man, saying, of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat.’ The story did not end there. In Genesis 2:17, God said to the man, ’But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat it, for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.‘

”There is always something that God will give you, that he wants you to take care of, that you mustn’t take as yours, that you must leave dedicated to and return to Him. That thing is the acknowledgement that God is the source of all things that you have, and it is known as tithe.

”Now, just to make sure that there is no ambiguity and confusion as to what the thing is, God made it simple. The tithe is ten per cent of anything God gives you as increase to what you already have or as addition to what you already have. In Adam’s case, not eating the tree of knowledge was his tithe. And if he dared to eat it, he would die,” he further argued.

In conclusion, he maintained that when you eat your tithe, you kill and destroy your access to God’s supernatural provision.

You will recall that Pastor Oritsejafor, the first Nigerian to urge Northern Christians to defend themselves whenever they come under attack, has earlier at the 20th Holy Ghost Congress of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, (RCCG), dropped a ‘bombshell’ regarding the contro-versial topic on tithe anchored by media personality, Ifedayo Olarinde also known as Daddy Freeze, saying Christians who do not pay tithe will die quick.

He said: “I know there are some people telling you not to pay tithe. Don’t listen to them. They want to kill you. You go die quick o.

Citing the book of Hebrews 7:9 Oritsejafor pointed that ‘’When you pay tithe, it is not about you. Your tithe is not about you. It’s about your children. The Bible says when Levi was still in the system, he was already paying tithe. Your tithe is not about you. It’s about your children. It is about your children’s children. Levi was still in the picture, he was paying tithe. Don’t let anybody deceive you”.

”Look at yourself and look at the person saying you should not pay tithe, when you look, you will see the difference is clear; the bible says the difference is clear,” he told the mammoth crowd of worshippers at that meeting.

Angry Former FC Taraba And Taraba Queen's FC Players Disrupt Match In Taraba
User Avatar Forum: Other Stories
Posted by: Edoman - 05-06-2018, 02:53 PM - No Replies

The angry ex players of FC Taraba and Taraba Queen's FC both Jalingo disrupted the match on the NNL between FC Taraba and Kaduna United FC at the Jolly Nyame Stadium, Jalingo. It could be recalled that the ex players were not paid for almost two years and the Taraba state government failed to fulfill it's promises to players with the intervention of NANPF and the LMC and host of others.

Meanwhile, the National Association of Nigeria Professional Footballers NANPF has described the on-going mayhem in Taraba FC game against Kaduna United FC where protesting ex players owed outstanding salaries of several months are being teargassed and injured, as the highest form of insensitivity to the welfare and lives of Nigeria Players and administrative ineptitude by the NNL.

In the first instance the registration of the team to feature in current league season is unjustifiable, a breach of football and league rules. Unfortunately the NNL see it the other way. It came as a rude shock to the union when Taraba FC name appeared as one of the teams to participate in the Nigeria football league this season.

The Union through its general secretary called the COO to questioned the reason for registering Taraba FC but to our greatest shock, the COO responded by saying that the NNL business is to register team to play and not to get involved in disputes between players and clubs a statement which was equally confirmed by the CEO of the NNL during a chart with the Union general Secretary.

But before now the NNL had always given assurance both to the union and the players that Taraba FC will not be registered until they clear their debts . So at what point did the NNL realised its business is only to register teams to play in the league without conditions.

Further more, Having received reports from the players of their planed action to stop the match from going on, the union secretary called the COO of NNL to intervene to forestall the situation that is currently playing out. He advised the secretary to call his Chairman,. Unfortunately the Chairman did pick his calls after several attempts.

The Union therefore calls for the swift intervention of NFF to put the match on hold until the issues are resolved to avoid consequences that we cannot predict. The players Union also want the leadership of Trade Union Congress to provide the necessary support for the players at this point in time.

The South-South Vice President of the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria, PFN, and head of Flock of Christ Mission, Warri, Delta State, Bishop Simeon Okah, has announced that henceforth, any member of his church that has not obtained his Permanent Voters’ Card “would not be allowed to worship.”

He said gone were the days when Christians see politics as sin.

He said, “From Thursday, any member of my church who does not have his or her voter’s card would not enter this house (Church). By the grace of God, I am the one God used in founding the Flock of Christ Mission.”

He also faulted the treatment meted to Senator Dino Melaye (Kogi West), stressing that Nigeria needs people like the lawmaker.

He told newsmen on Saturday that, “I have concerns for Dino. His hands may not be as clean as a saint but a man like him has a role to play in building this country.

“We need men like Dino. Let everybody of goodwill fight to see that Dino is released; if he has criminal records, he should face it but he should not be kept in detention

“He is intelligent. Let us see how we can save him from the hands of policemen. For a man like Dino, the police should show some level of leniency, because we need people like Dino in this country if we want this country to be great.”

N24b Office Complex: Magu Shocked Me, Says Ex-efcc Chair Waziri

N24b office complex: Magu shocked me, says ex-EFCC chair Waziri

Posted By: Yusuf Alli On: May 6, 2018

A former Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Mrs. Farida Waziri, has expressed joy at the completion of the N24billion office of the commission in Abuja.

Waziri who initiated the project during her tenure said yesterday that she was pleasantly shocked by the ability of the acting chairman of the anti-graft agency, Mr. Ibrahim Magu to bring the plan to fruition.

Magu, according to her, has shown example of why continuity is necessary in governance in Nigeria.

Speaking during a visit to the 10-storey complex, Mrs. Waziri said: “My first reaction was that of shock and excitement.

“Shock, because when we went to lay the foundation stone, it was total bush that was there. There was no single building in that area and we had a lot of canopies. This edifice standing is so beautiful.

“I have not been to Trump Tower but it looks like Trump Tower to me.

“Somebody asked me: Is that EFCC headquarters? He said he thought it was an oil company and I said no, it is EFCC headquarters.

“So I was so happy and I felt so proud that I thought about the project. And also I didn’t just think about it but I took positive steps to initiate it.”

Waziri said if successive administrations in the country could embrace continuity like President Muhammadu Buhari’s government has done, Nigeria would be better off.

She added: “I had the vision and I will say Magu actualized it and that is how it should be in a country like Nigeria. There should be continuity in government. It should not be that when someone starts something, you come in and because you didn’t start it, you trample on it and say it is not good enough.

“It is happening every day in our life and in this country especially at state levels. A governor comes up with a project, another will dismantle it.”

The EFCC on Thursday had a test-run management meeting at the complex ahead of its inauguration by President Buhari.

Waziri initiated the project as a result of congestion at the present headquarters of the agency in Wuse II, Abuja.

Following a memo presented by a former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Mr. Yayale Ahmed, the Federal Executive Council (FEC) on November 24, 2010 approved N18b for the construction of the new 10-Storey building to house the Headquarters of the EFCC.

It was gathered that a poor timeline for the release of funds delayed the completion of the project leading to a variation of the contract sum by the construction giant, Julius Berger Plc.

Speaking with our correspondent, EFCC Acting Chairman, Magu said he was “excited that the new headquarters is ready for use.”

He added: “The Federal Government has spent over N24billion to build. But I will later crosscheck to give you the exact figure.

“I thank Mr. President for according this project a priority. It is part of his commitment to the anti-graft war. This is a legacy project which many generations will be proud of.

“No leader in Africa has provided a conducive environment for an anti-corruption agency like President Buhari has done.

“We have also received support from ministers and all MDAs on release of funds and putting necessary infrastructure in place. “This commission is grateful to the National Assembly for their interest in the project. Many of these leaders including Speaker Yakubu Dogara, the Deputy Senate President, Dr. Ike Ekweremadu, the chairmen and members of all the committees on anti-corruption had always visited the site to monitor the progress of work. It shows that if we are determined, we can all be on the same page in this war against corruption. It is not a personal thing at all.”

No APC Ward Congress In Rivers, Says Magnus Abe
User Avatar Forum: Retired Forums. Please Make Your Post Within The 3 Forums In General Discussion
Posted by: Edoman - 05-06-2018, 02:22 PM - No Replies

The lawmaker representing Rivers South East district in the National Assembly, Senator Magnus Abe, says there is no ward congress of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 344 wards of the 23 local government areas in Rivers State.

In a statement by his spokesperson Parry Benson on Saturday in Port Harcourt, Senator Abe declared that there was no stakeholders’ meeting before the scheduled congress as promised by the leadership of the party in the state.

Abe, an APC governorship aspirant in the 2019 general elections, accused the leadership of the party in the state of going against the guidelines of the ward congress by allowing contestants to pick forms on the day of the congress.

He said, “The leadership of APC in Rivers State countered itself by issuing two statements today, Saturday, May 5, 2018, where it urged contestants to pick forms for the ward congress.

“The development is against the guidelines of the party’s congresses which said the purchase of nomination forms should end 24 hours before the commencement of the congress.”

The lawmaker further described the development as a fight against internal democracy in the APC and called on the national leadership of the party to intervene in the matter.

He added, “Our worry is that some leaders of the party deliberately want to obstruct the ward, local government and state congresses.

“We are appealing to the national leadership of the party to do what is right to ensure a free, fair, peaceful and credible congress in Rivers State”.

The Life and times of Ajala, the first Nigerian to travel round the world
So many people are familiar with the nickname, ‘Ajala Travel’. In recent times, it has become an apt name given to anyone who hits the road frequently; anyone who loves travelling or their work frequently demands travelling.

However, not many people know the history behind the popular nickname that has now become a metaphor for frequent travellers.

In this retro series, NAIJ.com presents to you a scintillating history of the man whose nickname, Ajala Travel, has become associated with globetrotting; Ajala Olabisi.

Background

Ajala Travel’s real names is Moshood Adisa Olabisi Ajala. He was born in Ghana in a polygamous household. His father had four wives and 25 children.

Ajala wrote about his background in his book 'An African Abroad': "I was born in Ghana, of Nigerian parents, and brought up in Nigeria, where I had my schooling at the Baptist Academy, Lagos, and Ibadan Boys’ High School. At the age of eighteen, I went to America to further my studies."

Education

Ajala later proceeded to De Paul University in Chicago in America to study medicine. While in America, he became the first black student to be pledged by the Delta Upsilon Pi ‘fraternity, a co-educational Greek-letter organization at De Paul University.

Travelling exploit

Ajala's travelling adventures started in 1952 when he decided to embark on a cross-country tour of America with just his bicycle and agbada. Aged 22, Ajala set out on the 12th of June 1952 from Chicago on a bicycle tour covering an incredible 2,280 miles. He would cover 2,280 miles in 28 days starting from Chicago and ending in Los Angeles.

He arrived the Los Angeles City Hall on 10th of July, two days ahead of his 30-day schedule. Upon arrival, Ajala was received by the city mayor Fletcher Bowron.
Ajala would later embark on other globe trotting adventures thereby dumping his ambitions of becoming a doctor.

Thanks to his cross country journey in America, Ajala became famous in America and back home.

In his lifetime Ajala, the Traveller visited India, USSR, Jordan, Iran Jordan, Israel and Australia. Remarkably he did this on a Vespa. He also met and dined with a lot of world dignitaries.

Why did Ajala decided to embark on the travel?

Ajala's goal for the tour was reportedly to educate the American public on the progress made by his native West African country of Nigeria.
The tour included stops to deliver lectures at 11 major cities. Ajala also did his tour wearing native Nigerian costumes described as ‘elaborately flowered robes with a felt-like head-dresses to match’. Ajala said the dress '..will show and prove to Americans that we do not go about nakedly in loin clothes.’

In 1972, the Nigerian music legend Chief Commander Ebenezer Obey, sang about the exploits of Ajala the Traveller in his 1972 hit album 'Board Members'.
Ajala's venture into acting

Following his daring bicycle trip across the United States, Ajala's popularity escalated and he became a celebrity overnight. He landed juicy deals, endorsements and contracts. One of such was the movie contract he signed with Eagle-Lion Studios in Hollywood in August 1955, the deal involved making a series of drama and spy films with European and African backgrounds.
How Ajala was deported from the US

In March 1953, the police of Beverly Hills, California arrested and jailed Ajala on three felony charges. He was accused on one count of forgery, two grand theft and three, worthless cheque charges.

He was also, at a point, sued by a former Chicago nurse for refusing to accept paternity of his child.

He was eventually found guilty of forgery and deported from the United States of America, he was aged 24, an exchange student from Africa and an actor.

However, Ajala was not reportedly deported solely because of the grand theft charges but also because of his failure to maintain his studies at the Santa Monica Junior College, thus invalidating his visa.

The end

Ajala Travel was said to be in love with ladies too. He reportedly had several wives and children in some of the countries he visited.

Till his last years on earth and amidst daunting challenges, the adventurous spirit never left Ajala. In October 1997, few years before his death, he was planning another round of global voyage.

On the 2nd of February, 1999, Ajala Travel died abject poverty and scalding penury.

On February 2, 1999, Moshood Adisa Olabisi Ajala alias Ajala Travel, died , in abject poverty; unsung and unrecognized, despite his fame.

Meet Ladi Dosei Kwali, first Nigerian woman to be on a naira note
Many Nigerians are oblivious to the story of the woman whose picture adorns the back of 20 naira note they spend on a daily. At the back of the 20 naira note is Ladi Kwali’s picture, a celebrated potter who hailed from the northern part of Nigeria.
Ladi Kwali was born in the village of Kwali, which is located in the Gwari region of present day Abuja, where pottery was indigenous female tradition.
Kwali who grew up in a family in which womenfolk made pots for a living, learnt to make pottery as a child from her aunt.
Kwali's younger brother, Mallam Mekaniki Kyebese, said: “Even in the early years of pottery making, Ladi Kwali excelled in the crafts and her wares were often sold even before they were taken to the markets”
She produced pottery pieces that were influenced by the Gbagyi tradition during her first professional years.
With the help of a famous English studio potter, Michael Cardew, Kwali came to international prominence for her talents in the 1950s. Cardew, who was appointed to the post of pottery officer in the department of commerce and industry in 1951, launched the Abuja Pottery Training Centre along with Kwali in 1952 and spent the following fifteen years teaching and learning from Nigerian potters.

Kwali would later join the Abuja pottery and become its first female potter. She later became an instructor
Ladi’s pots were noted for their beauty of form and decoration. The Emir of Abuja, Alhaji Suleiman Barau acquired several pots made by Ladi. In the palace of the Emir
was where Michael Cardew saw Ladi’s work in 1950. Ladi Kwali would later become prominent after this discovery by Cardew
Her pots became art objects and were also featured in international exhibitions of Abuja pottery organised by Cardew in 1958, 1959 and 1962.
Her pottery was also displayed during Nigeria’s independence celebrations in 1960.
Kwali and Cardew toured America in 1972, and at the Berkeley Galleries in London, her works was shown to great acclaim.
Her works - glazed dishes, bowls and beakers, which she created with stylised animal sgraffito, were the works for which she was best known. These works were a great asset in the popularity of Abuja pottery beyond the shores of Africa.

RHAPSODY OF REALITIES

SUNDAY, 6TH MAY.

Pastor Chris

TOPIC ✨ ONLY THE WORD COUNTS✨

But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed (Galatians 1:8).

There’re those who think it’s okay to try and contact the dead for information about their future. It’s wrong. In the Old Testament, God specifically warned the children of Israel not to do it. Saul, the king of Israel, did it and got into trouble for it.

The dead don’t know the future; so, it’s even absurd to try to consult with them about the future. Only the Holy Ghost knows the future, and through the insight He grants us, we’re able to know things about the future as He reveals them to us.

Jesus said, “Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come” (John 16:13). Trust the Holy Spirit: instead of hoping that, somehow, the ghost of a dead person will reveal some secrets to you or give you some esoteric information about your future.

Of course, there’re manifestations of the Holy Spirit in which He ministers to us in different ways. He can even use the face of your pastor, a brother, or sister to bring you a message or a word; He does such things. He could talk to you through the voice and the face of someone who has passed on to glory. He can do it, because He’s eternity; He’s not restricted.

However, everything you hear must be consistent with the revealed body of truth—God’s Word. No matter what you hear, and from whom you hear it, if it doesn’t square up with the Word, discard it. The consistency of the message with the Scriptures is what counts.

That an angel brought you a message doesn’t make it any more authentic. What authenticates a message and gives it power is its consistency with the revealed Word of God. It’s the same reason we’re to judge all prophecies (1 Corinthians 14:29), and test all spirits to see if they be of God (1 John 4:1).

PRAYER
Blessed Father, thank you for the sure guidance I receive from your eternal Word, and the light it unveils to my spirit. Your Word is my life, and by my faith in your Word, I rule over circumstances, and bring glory to your Majesty, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.

FURTHER STUDY: 2 Peter 1:18-19 And this voice which came from heaven we heard, when we were with him in the holy mount. 19 We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts:

1 John 4:1-3 Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world. 2 Hereby know ye the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God: 3 And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that [spirit] of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world.

Luke 21:33 Heaven and earth shall pass away: but my words shall not pass away.

A popular man identified as Owumi Philip Otite was laid to rest amid tears in Sapele area of Delta state after his unfortunate death. It was gathered that the deceased married his wife out of 'sympathy' even after she was rejected by his mother for having a baby out of wedlock.

According to reports, the man found out that his wife was sleeping around with a young man even after she had given birth to three boys and one girl for him.

The man decided to forgive her after the infidelity without doing the proper traditional rites to cleanse his wife before he began enjoying her and eaten her food. This was said to have led to his shocking death, according to a report by Sapele Oghenek...

The woman claimed she left the marriage after the infidelity issue but it was the husband who begged her to come back before he took her to church for deliverance.

The former Governor of Edo State, Adams Oshiomole joined a host of others to attend the burial yesterday.

According to reports, the man's family has exiled the cheating wife and has cut ties with her for the main time as she couldn't attend her late husband's burial...

Heavy Rain At NYSC Edo Camp Destroys Dilapidated Structures, Corpers Injured

It was just a matter of time before the dilapidated and deteriorated structures at the Nysc camp, Okada, edo state crumble,
The corpers are always victims of the appaling and unfavorable living conditions, right from the first day the stench of the pit latrine like an abandoned abattoir is enough to contract a kinds of communicable and non communicable diseases. The annoying part of the orientation is when the corrupt officials give the corpers a false hope of a permanent orientation camp that would never be accessible to the present corpers.
The sorry state of things is no only limited to the hostels but the food, the environment and even security, as there are many entrances and exits, and corpers can be easily attacked by well coordinated bandits

Today the pavilion collapsed on many Corpers and they have been rushed to the hospital, as the camp lacks basiv medical facilities or any Doctor to cater for corpees, many structures at the mammy market were destroyed as well and some Corpers injured are in critical states

My Second Term Bid Not For Personal Gains – Buhari
User Avatar Forum: Retired Forums. Please Make Your Post Within The 3 Forums In General Discussion

Quote:PRESIDENT Muhammadu Buhari Saturday in Daura, Katsina State, said the driving force for seeking public office should be to serve the people, and see their lives improved, not for frivolity or personal ambition.

Speaking at the All Progressives Party’s (APC) Ward Congress held at Bayagida Model Primary School, President Buhari said the passion to serve and see real changes in the lives of Nigerians informed his choice to join partisan politics in the first place, and inspired him to contest elections in 2003, 2007, 2011 and 2015.

The President said that his decision to seek a second term in office was borne out of a deep passion to serve Nigerians, and not for personal gains.

President Buhari noted that his administration had already started the process of ensuring fairness, justice and equity, in spite of challenges, and would work hard to consolidate on the gains.

“I am not in politics for fun, frivolity or to amass wealth, I have always been driven by a deep sense of commitment to make a difference to the lives of our people.

“After my retirement from the army, or forceful retirement, I sat back and watched as events unfolded on the political turf, and realised the country needed an intervention for fairness, justice and inclusion of Nigerians in the issues that affect their lives,” he said.

The President called for patience, maturity and orderliness as the 2019 elections’ calendar begins to unfold, urging political parties, candidates and the electorate to put the country first and always remember that victory ultimately belongs to God.

“After going to the court so many times to challenge results of elections in 2003, 2007 and 2011, and going up to the Supreme Court, I concluded that ultimately it is God who determines who will win elections, and in 2015 I got here,” he added.

In his remarks, the Katsina State Governor, Alhaji Aminu Masari, said the process of electing the leaders of the party at the ward level was hitch-free, orderly and based on the constitution of the APC.

“What we have here are our leaders that were chosen based on consensus and we are happy that it reflects the will of the people and the APC constitution. We followed the process to also ensure that there is affirmation,” he said.

The Chairman of the Organising Committee for the Ward Congress, who is also the Commissioner of Justice and Attorney General, Ahmad Usman El-Marzuq urged the party leaders to remain loyal and live up to expectations.

World Bank Backs IMF On Poverty Rate In Nigeria
User Avatar Forum: Business/Investment

The World Bank says unemployment and poverty rates increased in Nigeria despite an exit from recession in 2017.

The apex global financial institution made these remarks in a report made available to newsmen Thursday.

According to the report titled, “Nigeria Bi-annual Economic Update: Fragile Recovery,” policymakers at the federal and the state levels need to identify interventions that are best suited to realise development potential of sub-national regions and integrate domestic markets.

It said: “The decline in the non-oil and non-agriculture sectors, however, continued as aggregate demand remained weak and private sector credit low.

“The rates of unemployment and underemployment increased in 2017 and poverty is estimated to have increased slightly. Gross Domestic Product (GDP) growth in 2018 is expected to hover just over 2 per cent, largely oil sector-driven.

“Nigeria has a big home market, which is constrained by limited connective infrastructure, thereby reducing producers and firms’ ability to reach wider markets.

“Policymakers may want to focus on investments that reinforce clusters and economies of scale and optimise the connectivity between rural areas and the major urban markets.

“Policy makers must also address structural and land management issues in major urban nodes and along major growth corridors to remove or alleviate barriers that undermine the growth potential.”

DAILY POST reports that in March, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) said the country needed urgent and coherent policies because Nigerians were getting poorer.

Naira May Drop On Profit-taking, Increased Demand

Oyetunji Abioye with agency report

The naira may ease against the United States dollar next week at the Central Bank of Nigeria’ s Investors and Exporters Foreign Exchange Window due to increased demand as companies seek to repatriate dividends after the end of the earnings season, coupled with portfolio investors taking profits.

Forex traders said the naira eased to 361 on Friday at the I&E window, from the 360 levels it had maintained for over six months, as some forward currency contracts matured amid tight dollar liquidity.

On the official market, the naira was quoted at 305.70, supported by the CBN’ s regular intervention. One lender traded the currency at 314.50/dollar on Thursday, according to Reuters.

The local unit closed at 362/ dollar at the parallel market on Friday, the same level it has closed since Monday.

The CBN had on Wednesday injected the sum of $210m into the inter-bank foreign exchange market in continuation of its efforts to sustain liquidity in the market.

The apex bank offered the sum of $100m to authorised dealers in the wholesale segment of the market. The Small and Medium-scale Enterprises segment received the sum of $55m, while the sum of $55m was apportioned to invisibles such as tuition fees, medical payments and Basic Travel Allowance.

The CBN Acting Director, Corporate Communications Department, Mr. Isaac Okorafor, confirmed the figures and reiterated the bank’ s capacity to continue to sustain the foreign exchange intervention. Okorafor urged Deposit Money Banks to continue to honour requests from customers with genuine needs, noting that the bank would continue to sustain liquidity in the foreign exchange market.

Liverpool Star Mo’ Salah Meets His Lookalike (Photos)

World famous footballer, Mohamed Salah, has been taken aback after he met another man who looks just like him.

Mohamed Salah is a man in demand in his native Egypt, so it may come in handy to know he has a very convincing doppleganger who could step in as a body double when it all gets too much.

The Liverpool star has become a national icon after his 43-goal campaign at Anfield, and will lead Egypt into their first World Cup appearance in 28 years this summer with hopes firmly on his shoulders.

And Salah’s success on the pitch appears to have been good news for Ahmed Bahaa, who has gained plenty of media attention for his ridiculous likeness to the diminutive winger as a result.

Daily Mail UK reports that Bahaa has regularly been seen on Egyptian television posing in both the Egyptian national and Liverpool shirts baring Salah’s name.

In videos of him roaming the streets, plenty of people believe they are meeting the man himself, and with good reason.

See more pictures of him in link below

Tumba Garba, Senator Binta's Father Speaks: I Didn't Burn Her House
User Avatar Forum: Other Stories

Contrary to claims of burning her daughters home after she married a Christian, Senator Binta's father, Tumba Garba, who sat for an interview with Punch, said he gave his daughter blessing on the day she chose to marry a Christian.

Recall that Senator Binta had in April narrated during her 50th birthday how her properties were set ablaze by her father after she became a Christian while she was in primary school.

“My father was infuriated and he burnt everything I had because of my decision to follow Christ. I suffered so much because of the name of Jesus. I would have been nothing if not for His grace,” she had stated.

Tumba, a 104-year-old retired military corporal, who noted that that his family had nothing against his daughter on Thursday, added that his family was a tolerant one which never discriminated against any religion. Tumba said that was why he allowed his children to practice any religion that they wanted.

Speaking in Tudun Wada, Michika when he met with the leadership of the Muslim Council from Adamawa North Senatorial zone, teary Senator Binta's father told the gathering that Binta never intended to insult Islam when she converted to Christianity. It was gathered that the meeting was to set the records straight

He said, “My father was a Christian and I converted to Islam. So, when Binta wanted to marry a Christian, I gave her my blessing.”

He also said that the happiest day of his life was the day his daughter took him to meet with President Muhammadu Buhari, stating that he had tried in time past to meet with the President when he became a military ruler.

Following the meeting, Binta told journalists that she was glad that her father had come to assure the Muslim community that the earlier remark attributed to her wasn’t true. She also called on her political opponents to judge her based on stewardship rather than religious sentiment.

A wife suffocated to death after being buried in cow dung to treat a snake bite by a snake charmer in India.

The 35-year-old woman, named as Devendri, was out collecting wood for her fire when a snake bit her on the hand in Bulandshahr, Uttar Pradesh, northern India.

She ran home to tell her husband, Mukesh, and the pair decided to call a local snake charmer called Murarey, who suggested his bizarre treatment may succeed in sucking out the poison.

Villagers gathered outside the house and watched as Mukesh covered Devendri in cow dung.

The snake charmer sat beside her and chanted mantras but after 75 minutes Devendri died.

Mukesh said: 'My wife went out to get fire wood and when she was collecting the wood a snake bit her.

'We tried some medicines, a grinded powder, and tied a rope around her arm.

But the snake charmer advised us to cover her in cow dung, so we did.

The snake charmer was confident he could help.

'We left her in the cow dungfor 75 minutes.'

'I never thought she would die, I really thought she'd survive, and work.'

'I never thought this would happen.'

'The snake charmer, Murarey, said:

'I'm known in this area to treat animal bites.'

'I think the snake was a cobra.'

Pro-buhari Govs, Saraki’s Group Strike Deal With Oshiomhole
User Avatar Forum: Retired Forums. Please Make Your Post Within The 3 Forums In General Discussion
Posted by: Edoman - 05-05-2018, 03:54 PM - No Replies

Quote:By Lanre Adewole - Lagos

The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) is compiling a ‘unity list’ of a new set of its National Working Committee (NWC) members, Saturday Tribune has reliably learnt.

Governors perceived to be loyal to President Muhammadu Buhari, who include Nasir el-Rufai (Kaduna State), Yahaya Bello (Kogi State), Ibikunle Amosun (Ogun State) and Rotimi Akeredolu (Ondo State), are believed to have finally endorsed Comrade Adams Oshiomhole for the chairmanship of the party after extracting commitments from him not to be controlled by any leader other than the president.

Apart from the governors’ group, the Senator Bukola Saraki camp, which had also refused to endorse Oshiomhole because of his reported closeness to certain forces in the party, has also bought into the Oshiomhole project after some trade-offs by the former Edo State governor.

With the three major camps in the party reportedly settling on not going into the national convention divided, the “unity list” is primed to accommodate all contending interests, especially those with discontent that could hurt the party in the 2019 general election at the centre.

Saturday Tribune was informed by a government source in the South-West that despite the initial objection of a certain South West governor to the aspiration of Oshiomhole to lead the party, he and other governors have finally closed ranks on the endorsement of their former colleague.

With the new arrangement and understanding, Oshiomhole is sitting atop the unity list as the national chairman-designate of the party.

The South-West governor who, alongside his other colleagues in the North, had been the rock behind the agenda to keep the incumbent chairman, John Odigie-Oyegun, on the job for another four years, finally joined others in endorsing Oshiomhole.

A united governors’ forum of the party has also persuaded Oyegun not to stand election against Oshiomhole, the anointed of both the camps of President Buhari and the party’s leader, Bola Tinubu.

The camp of the Senate President, Bukola Saraki, working in concert with that of the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, reportedly had no objection to the arrangement – replacing Oyegun with Oshiomhole.

Pro-continuity groups, according to findings, didn’t just endorse Oshiomhole because the president said so or decided to back him.

A party link explained that the original plan of the groups was to shock anti-Oyegun elements at the convention, adding, “At least, the election which they demanded would have taken place and their candidate (Oshiomhole) would have lost.”

Commitments were reportedly extracted from the incoming chairman before a shift was made by the Oyegun backers, especially among the governors.

Fears that he would be subservient to the interest that propelled his candidature were said to have been made known to him, which he reportedly dispelled, assuring that he would be fair to all.

His core supporters also touted his successes in dismantling the age-long godfatherism phenomenon and structure in Edo State as governor, taking on and defeating establishments that long dominated the political space in the South-South state.

Some of the political establishments which he succeeded in dismantling in Edo State helped him to power as governor, following their disaffection with happenings in the then ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) regarding its choice of governorship candidate.

After falling out with the PDP leaders, he consolidated his hold on power and ensured his party retained the governorship when he ran out his tenure.

He is celebrated by his supporters as the one with the formula to end the reign of godfathers, even when such persons helped him to power.

Oshiomhole is seen as Tinubu’s choice and anointed.

The former Lagos State governor, Tinubu, against the grain of NEC agreement, forced the party to agree to an elective convention and a change of leadership at the NWC.

Buhari, who had earlier signed off on the Oyegun extension agenda, made a U-turn to support Oshiomhole, who was presented to him in London by Tinubu.

Oshiomhole, before now, had enjoyed a chummy relationship with Buhari with the president publicly announcing he had a national assignment for him after his tenure as governor.

His choice by Tinubu was said not to be a difficult one for the president to accept after Tinubu insisted that Oyegun must leave office in June when the tenure of the current NWC would expire.

Governors, who were initially opposed to Oshiomhole’s ascension as the national chairman, were said to have cited his rigid approach to issues, his stubborn streak and a carriage of intellectual superiority, aside from his resumed cozy relations with Tinubu, who isn’t their political friend.

In Kogi State, a member of the House of Representatives, James Faleke, was Tinubu’s choice for governor following the death of the party’s original standard-bearer, Abubakar Audu.

Faleke remains a protege of Tinubu and a political foe of Governor Yahaya Bello, who was an ardent Oyegun backer, until recently.

Apart from the assurance from Oshiomhole, Saturday Tribune learnt, his latter-day backers are not putting all their eggs in his basket by ensuring they put enough of the outgoing NWC members on the Oshiomhole train to check him if he wanted to derail.

The “unity list,” if the erstwhile Oyegun backers had their way, would only be altered slightly at the top, that is, Oyegun’s name replaced with Oshiomhole’s, while all other members of the outgoing NWC are kept intact and returned wholesale.

But while the majority of the NWC members are likely to return, a couple of them have signified it was time to go.

Apart from about two seeking the governorship of their states and expected to be replaced by the same states, some others would also be exiting voluntarily.

Those not returning from states not controlled by the NWC backers have reportedly been asked to seek out their replacements that would stand election against those from such “unfriendly” states.

The positions currently occupied by those not returning may become a test of strength among the major camps at the convention, despite the “unity list.”

Buhari Handled Economy Better Than Others Since 1999 – Ajimobi

Posted by: Edoman - 05-05-2018, 03:52 PM - No Replies

Gov. Abiola Ajimobi of Oyo State has stated that no other president in the country has managed the nation’s economy better than President Muhammadu Buhari.

The governor spoke in Ibadan on Friday evening while receiving members of the National Congress Committee of APC at the Government House.

The News Agency of Nigeria(NAN) reports that the committee led by Alhaji Musa Aliyu were in the state for the ward congress of the APC scheduled to hold on Saturday.

“I read Economics and Finance, and there is no economic theory that we have not read. The most important part of all the economic theory is leadership.

“And Nigeria is lucky to have that leadership. There is no president in Nigeria that has ever managed the economy like Buhari,” he said.

Ajimobi, who described the APC as the greatest party in Africa, said Buhari was the most credible president that Nigeria has ever produced.

“I was in one of Buhari’s delegation to London and when he was asked to speak he said ‘I have no money to distribute. All I have been selling is my integrity,” he said.

The governor said that Buhari has been able to maintain that integrity till date

“Politics is just a game that if God plays it, some people will abuse Him no matter the performance. I use to tell the president anytime I meet him not to worry people are abusing him.

“I told him that people abused Prophet Muhammed and Jesus Christ, who are godsend not to talk of us ordinary human beings. That is why God has created the world a binary one,” he said.

Ajimobi promised that the congress committee would not be influenced, assuring them of their support.

Earlier, Aliyu said the committee was in Ibadan on a national assignment of the party, which he said the committee would do satisfactorily.

He said that the party was known for internal democracy, adding such was the cardinal principle preached by Buhari, the leader of the party.

“We intend to work closely with the local chapters in achieving the desired success, so that the party will come out strongly,” he said.

NAN reports that on the committee were Hon Usman Ibrahim, Hon Mohammed Ibrahim, Hadjia Halima Jabiru and Mrs Fola Olasehinde.

Also in attendance were Chief Akin Oke, Oyo State APC Chairman and some House of Representative members from Oyo State.(NAN)

"Buhari Should Retire" - Cardinal Onaiyekan
User Avatar Forum: Retired Forums. Please Make Your Post Within The 3 Forums In General Discussion

A Cardinal of the Catholic Church and the Metropolitan Catholic Archbishop of Abuja, John Onaiyekan who reacted to the recent killing of two catholic priests in Benue State, slammed security agencies, who he said have been watching as herdsmen slaughter innocent citizens of the country even in their worship places.

Cardinal Onaiyekan, who maintained that living in peace was less expensive than going to war, however insisted that the people would not continue to fold their hands and die on a daily basis. According to him in the interview with Sun, priests in Benue State may be forced to pick up arms and defend themselves against being killed by rampaging herdsmen.

“They have not done so. That is not our way and I don’t think they will. And I am hoping that we have not reached that stage yet. But you could reach that stage.

“Yesterday, they killed us, the next day, they killed us, the policemen are around and they have done nothing. And the police are given guns and they don’t use them.

“The Army comes and moves around and nothing happens. They are not going to wait for me to tell them what to do. They don’t want that to continue and all we have been telling government is please, don’t push people too far.

“It is not possible to tell us that Nigeria is unable to secure our territory. We cannot believe it, to tell us that it is beyond the possibility of the police; that the whole Nigerian Army with the billion naira and the billion dollars budgets that we are spending; they still can’t keep us safe.

“And they want me to believe that? We can’t believe it, which is why we are saying no, there is something seriously wrong which must be addressed quickly because at the end of the day, everybody is going to suffer.

“As you know, most of us, at least, are pleading that we live in peace with one another because living in peace is less expensive than going to war. Also, when you go to war, who wins?

“Whoever is stronger wins, not who is right. The Pope used to say that we must replace the right of force with the force of right. That is where we are now. Don’t forget that somebody (Gen. TY Danjuma) who ought to know did make a statement about get ready to defend yourselves.
“And he should know what he is talking about. And he clearly accused government of collusion. That is serious.

“For various reasons, personally, if he (Buhari) came to me for advice, I will tell him it is time for retirement" Cardinal Onaiyekan said.

Sagay: Corrupt Nigerians Pretend To Be Sick During Trial, Playing The Sick Game
User Avatar Forum: Retired Forums. Please Make Your Post Within The 3 Forums In General Discussion

Temidayo Akinsuyi, Lagos

Quote:Prof. Itse Sagay (SAN), Chairman of the Presidential Advisory Committee Against Corruption ( PACAC), has bemoaned the attitudes of some Nigerians who play the sick game when being tried for an alleged offence committed.

Speaking in a chat with Daily Independent, Sagay said it is unfortunate that many public officials commit acts of impunity in sound health but pretend to be sick when being tried in order to whip up sentiments.

Reacting to the recent case of Dino Melaye, senator representing Kogi West who appeared in court on Thursday in a stretcher, Sagay said he cannot say whether Melaye is pretending or not until the hospital or court say so.

“I am worried by the attitudes of public officials who play the sick game whenever they are being tried. The only thing is from what i see on television, it is difficult for me to know whether it is genuine or fake.

“I think in the case of Olisa Metuh, the court did not take his medical condition that seriously. The court didn’t think it was genuine or as serious as he wanted it to be. We have to go by what the court says.

“This is our attitude in this country. When you are engaging in impunity, you do it in full health but when payback time comes, then you are sick and you want to avoid the consequences of what you did with open eyes.

“This is what am always talking about. Let us do what is right and not now begin to look for excuses and promote sentiments when you are being visited by the law for the wrongdoings you committed. It is very unfortunate,” he said.

Row Over $496m Jets: Buhari Presents Documents, US Letter To NASS
User Avatar Forum: Retired Forums. Please Make Your Post Within The 3 Forums In General Discussion
Posted by: Edoman - 05-05-2018, 03:41 PM - No Replies

Quote:Posted By: Yusuf ALLI,

The Presidency has presented documents and a letter from the United States Government to the Senate Committee on Judiciary and Legal Matters on why it decided to pay $496 million for 12 Super Tucano fighter jets in anticipation of approval by the National Assembly.

It said the US Government gave a February 20, 2018 deadline to effect the payment or wait for another two years to renegotiate.

The Presidency also gave a list of precedents by past governments which embarked on similar purchases or expenditures due to exigencies.

The Minister of Defence, Gen. Manir Dan Ali; the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Mr. Abubakar Malami (SAN); the Minister of Finance, Mrs. Kemi Adeosun and all other ministers connected with the payment for the jets have either responded to enquiries from the committee or appeared before the Senate team.

Investigation by our correspondent revealed that the Presidency insisted that it acted in the national interest and that no cash was diverted or shared under the table.

It explained that there was no trace of scandal because it was “purely a government to government transaction.”

One of the documents was a letter from the United States Government, which indicated a February 20 deadline to pay for the Super Tucano jets.

A top source in the Presidency said: “The payment of the $496 million for the Super Tucano jets was not ill-motivated or scandalous as being painted.

“It was effected in the interest of the nation’s security and not an attempt to undermine the National Assembly in any form.

“If you go to Section 82 of the 1999 Constitution, it says the President may authorise withdrawal of money from the Consolidated Revenue of the Federation for the purpose of meeting expenditure necessary to carry on the services of the Government of the Federation for a period not exceeding six months until the coming into operation of the Appropriation Act.

“There were also past precedents by some ex-Presidents, including Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, the late Mallam Umaru Musa Yar’Adua and Dr. Goodluck Jonathan.”

The source gave insights into such expenditures on exigencies by past presidents as follows:
$17.7 billion withdrawn by Obasanjo from the excess crude account to pay the Paris Club and fund two projects without the National Assembly’s approval.

Excess Crude Account (ECA) depleted by the Yar’Adua-Jonathan administration from $20 billion in 2008 to less than $4 billion in 2010 without input by the National Assembly.

$5 billion taken from ECA by the administration of Yar’Adua for power generation

Over $2 billion withdrawn in 2014 by the Jonathan government for the purchase of equipment to fight Boko Haram. There is no evidence of consultation with the National Assembly.

The source added: “The Presidency has provided a list of similar expenditures by past Presidents to the Senate Committee to prove that there was no constitutional violation to warrant the so-called impeachment motion.”

Speaking with our correspondent on the latest development, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on National Assembly Matters, Sen. Ita Enang said: “The Senate Committee on Judiciary and Legal Matters looking into the payment of the $496 million to the US Government raised some questions for relevant ministers to answer.

“Some of these questions have been answered and are being answered to the satisfaction of the Legislature.

“We have provided many documents and a letter from the US Government which stated that the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari has until February 20 to pay for the jets.

“The letter said if this administration defaulted on the deadline, it would cancel the request for the purchase of the jets and Nigeria would have to wait for another two years to renegotiate.

“We have also laid in evidence President Donald Trump’s admission of the sale of the $496 million Super Tucano jets to the Federal Government and what he said on the integrity of President Buhari.”

Responding to a question, Enang said: “We are doing a lot of rapprochement with the National Assembly for an enhanced understanding and collaboration between the two arms of government.
“We are actually reaching out to the Senate and the House of Representatives.

“We are doing everything to stave off any issue relating to impeachment.”

Following the approval of $1 billion by the National Economic Council (NEC) to address security emergencies in the nation, the Federal Government had withdrawn $496 million out of the sum to pay for 12 Super Tucano Jets.

Buhari, in a letter to the National Assembly, said in part: “I wish to draw the attention of the Senate to the ongoing security emergencies in the nation.

“These challenges were discussed with the state governors and subsequently at the meeting of the National Economic Council on the 14th of December 2017 where a resolution was passed with the council approving that up to $1 billion may be released and utilised from the Excess Crude Account to address the situation.

“In the expectation that the National Assembly would have no objection to the purchase of this highly specialised aircraft, which is critical to national security, I granted anticipatory approval for the release of US$496,374,470.00.”

But the National Assembly faulted the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari for engaging in anticipatory withdrawal when the National Assembly was yet to approve the $1 billion request.

They accused the President of violating sections 80, 81 and 143 of the 1999 Constitution.

On Thursday, Sen. Matthew Uroghide, Edo State, said President Buhari’s move was a violation of the constitution.

While Uroghide urged the Senate to invoke Section 143 to start the President’s impeachment process, Senator Chukwuka Utazi, who seconded the motion, declared: “This is an impeachable offence.”

But President Buhari said he gave approval for the withdrawal of the fund because he believed the National Assembly would have no objection to his action.

In the House of Representatives, Hon, Kingsley Chinda (Rivers State) raised a constitutional point of order based on the provisions of sections 80 and 81 of the 1999 Constitution.

He said: “There is nowhere in our law that talks about anticipatory approval. We cannot sit down and allow this to take place. It is an impeachable offence.

“There is no infraction that is worse than this. Let us not continue to sleep. I propose that we commence the impeachment of Mr. President.”

Backing the motion, Hon. Sunday Karimi (Kogi State) asked Buhari to be “prepared to face the consequences.”

5 College Staff Die In Abia Over Salary Arrears
User Avatar Forum: Universities
Posted by: Edoman - 05-05-2018, 11:45 AM - No Replies

Three trade unions in Abia State College of Education (Technical), Arochukwu (ASCETA) said they have lost five of their staff members to hunger and sickness due to non-payment of salaries and other allowances by Abia State Government in the last one year.

The leadership of the unions which disclosed this in a statement in Umuahia, yesterday, said scores of others were “sick unto death” as they cannot afford food and medicare.

The unions which include Colleges of Education Academic Staff Union (COEASU), Senior Staff Union in Colleges of Education in Nigeria (SSUCOEN) and Non-Academic Staff Union (NASU), lamented that the worst part of the problem was that while other institutions in the state were being paid, ASCETA was excluded.

They stated that the staff who died were currently owed for eight months. Apart from that, they were said to have been denied of the new salary structure which took effect nationwide since 2011.

According to the the unions, under a “dangerous, degrading and discriminating policy introduced by the Commissioner for Finance, Obinna Oriaku, no subvention has been given to ASCETA in the last three months while other institutions got theirs.”

The unions who wondered whether Governor Okezie Ikpeazu is aware of the policy, called for its immediate reversal. They said it was an irony of fate that while other institutions had been regularly embarking on strike, the staff of ASCETA have remained largely peaceful and wondered why they were being punished for their loyalty.

In their statement signed by Dr. Joseph Kanu (COEASU), Agoha Franklin (SSUCOEN) and Dan Nwosu (NASU), the staff pleaded with the governor to clear their eight months arrears of salaries to stop further deaths, which they said were imminent.

“We don’t want to believe that some government officials want all of us dead. If not, why release subvention to Abia Poly and Abia State University and leave out ASCETA?”

They, however, pledged their loyalty to the governor while awaiting the payment of their salaries, stating that their patience should not be taken fore-granted.

Operatives of the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) today raided a guest house in Gwagwalada area of FCT, Amazonia Guest House, where they rescued 13 young girls suspected to be victims of human trafficking.

A suspect, Afeez Abdulsalam, who has been on the Agency's watch list for procuring young girls for onward travel to Saudi Arabia where they are faced with various forms of exploitation, was also arrested.

Backed by a court order, a search was conducted and the premises sealed off until investigation is completed.

El-Rufai Curses Senators Shehu Sani, Hunkuyi, La’ah For Opposing $350M Loan
User Avatar Forum: Retired Forums. Please Make Your Post Within The 3 Forums In General Discussion
Posted by: Edoman - 05-05-2018, 11:33 AM - No Replies

Quote:Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-rufai, at a public function on Friday cursed three senators representing the state for opposing a $350 million loan being sought from the World Bank by his government.

He also described the senators as ”enemies of the state, people and All Progressive Congress”.

The state government had earlier vowed to go ahead with its request despite the decision by the Senate that the Nigerian government should not guarantee the facility.

The Senate decided not to approve the loan request after a committee headed by Shehu Sani (APC-Kaduna) advised against it on the ground that the state is the second most indebted in the country.

Mr Sani, who is the chairman, Senate Committee on Foreign and Domestic Loans, argued that the new loan if approved will erode economic viability of the State.

His position was supported by two other senators from the state: Suleiman Hunkuyi (Kaduna North) and Danjuma La’ah (Kaduna South).

Mr Sani and Mr El-Rufai have been having running political battles for the past few months and have been engaged in several altercations in the past.

Reacting to the federal lawmakers’ decision, the state government said nothing can stop it from obtaining the loan for the development of the state.

The state Commissioner of Finance, Suleiman Abdu Kwari, at a news briefing in Kaduna said the excuse given on the floor of the Senate as to the size of the state’s loan was ”baseless”.

Mr Kwari said with the way the three senators from the state spoke against the loan, it was apparent they had put ”their personal frustrations above the right of the people of the state”.

He said the World Bank was convinced the state has met the conditions before given its approval for the loan.

But a furious Mr El-rufai on Friday said the state electorate did not send the senators to the National Assembly ”to work against the interest of the state”.

Mr El-rufai also cursed them publicly while addressing party supporters at the flag-off of the APC’s campaign for the state local government elections held at the Township Stadium.

“They (Wolrd Bank) decided to support us with $350 million loan so that we can support projects that will improve the lives of the people of Kaduna State. But the enemies of our people, the three enemies (senators) of Kaduna State in the Senate blocked it. May Allah curse them!

“They are behaving as if their personal ego is more important than the 10 million of people in the state,” he said.

The governor said the World Bank approved the loan for the state because it were convinced of the viability of the projects. He threatened that the electorate would vote out the senators for their action against the wish of the people.

He also had unkind words for those in the National Assembly ”opposing the government of President Muhammadu Buhari”.

“These politicians of deceit, selfishness are doing similar thing at the national level to cripple the government of our leader Muhammadu Buhari. They kept the budget of 2018 in limbo, they are threatening to impeach the President after their conspiracy on changing the order of election collapsed.

“We didn’t sent these senators to Abuja to conspire against our people or against our party and President,” he said.

He said the 16 years of the PDP ‘misrule’ in the state and nationally were regrettable when put side by side ”the acheivements of the APC”.

According to him, to move forward, ”the APC has 1293 projects at various stages of completion across the state (Kaduna)”.

“This government has spent more than N60 billion on schools, hospitals, roads and water projects,” he said, adding that, ”our local government elections will be the first ever in Nigeria conducted by electronic voting.”

The Party’s National Chairman, John Odigie-Oyegun; Minister of State, Budget and National Planning, Zainab Ahmed and senior officials of the Kaduna APC were in attendance.

Meanwhile, Mr Odigie-Oyegun, commended the state for introducing electronic voting machines which will be deployed during the LG polls in the state.

He also received into the APC, prominent politicians and their supporters who recently decamped from the PDP.

One Shot Dead At APC Secretariat In Rivers State, Others Injured
User Avatar Forum: Retired Forums. Please Make Your Post Within The 3 Forums In General Discussion
Posted by: Edoman - 05-05-2018, 11:32 AM - No Replies

At least one person was shot dead and many injured after pandemonium broke out today at the Rivers State Secretariat of the All Progressives Congress, along Moscow Road in Port Harcourt. The chaos happened after protestors went violent and destroyed properties at the secretariat.

It was gathered that armed policemen and other security operatives fired live bullets as they were mobilized to the area after some protesters became violent and vandalized the APC office.

Earlier, the leadership of the All Progressive Congress in Rivers State, had denied claims by a section of the party that materials for the local government congresses have been hijacked.

The APC spokesman said the delegation from Abuja had their flight delayed, hence the exercise was rescheduled for later in the day.

However, the protesters, who were led by the State Deputy Chairman APC, Peter Odike, alleged that, “Some of their intending delegates had been deliberately deprived of the forms to participate in the congresses tomorrow.”

The APC protesters complained that the State Chairman and other officials were not at the secretariat to attend to them, less than twenty-four hours to the congresses.

Quote:CYRIACUS IZUEKWE

A 30-year old man, Oluwashina Fatai has been charged to court and sentenced to four years imprisonment without an option of fine after he was caught inside the bedroom of a couple while they made love.

P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened at Omotshe compound in Itire area of Lagos where the victim, Mr. Raph Imoekor lived with his wife.

The suspect was said to have sneaked into the victim’s bedroom and hid inside at night. The couple, who had returned from work, ate and went to their matrimonial bed to sleep.

However, at about 3am Mr. Raph noticed a flash from torchlight inside their wardrobe. He got up to check and found Fatai there.

He held him when he attempted to escape and raised alarm which attracted other neighbours. He was then handed over to the police at Itire Division.

P.M.EXPRESS scooped that at the police station, Fatai who claimed to live under the bridge at Ojuelegba area said that he sneaked into the house at night and entered their bedroom through their living room and hid inside the wardrobe.

He reportedly said that his mission was to steal before the couple moved into their bed.

He was there until they started making love and he had to stay there because it was difficult for him to come out. He said from the wardrobe he watched them made love and attempted to sneak out when they had slept off.

He said that he was eventually caught after he had already collected their phones and attempted to move out before Mr. Raph woke up and held him.

Fatai was charged before the Isolo Magistrates court for sneaking into the complainant’s apartment and stealing.
He pleaded guilty.

The prosecutor, Mr. Oje Uagbale while presenting facts before the court, informed the court that Fatai had earlier been convicted by the same court last year under another name, Oluwaseun Gbenga after he went to a mosque and stole which he confirmed.

Then the prosecutor told the court that from the facts available, that the defendant was a habitual criminal that will not change and asked the court to sentence him accordingly to serve as deterrent because he was not a first offender.

The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. O.A. Teluwo found Fatai guilty as charged on the two counts and sentenced him accordingly.

However, the court ordered that the sentence will run concurrently which means that Fatai will be spending the next two years at the prison custody.

RHAPSODY OF REALITIES

PASTOR CHRIS

SATURDAY, 5TH MAY, 2018.

"SPEAKING BLESSINGS IS BY FAITH"

"By faith Isaac blessed Jacob and Esau concerning things to come" (Hebrews 11:20).
In our previous study, we reviewed the importance of speaking blessings; we’re to constantly pronounce blessings. However, blessings are pronounced or spoken by faith; otherwise, they’ll be empty words. The words of blessings that we speak must be words of faith; faith that’s connected to God; faith that’s based on the revelation of God’s Word. That’s what will cause the words to prevail.

In our opening verse, we read that, _"By faith Isaac blessed Jacob and Esau concerning things to come.”, Likewise, Hebrews 11:21 says, _"By faith Jacob, when he was dying, blessed both the sons of Joseph and worshipped, leaning upon the top of his staff". This is really amazing! Jacob, at this time, could hardly see; his eyes were dim, but he blessed his grandsons according to the revelation of the Spirit.

Joseph, the father of the boys, thought Jacob was making a mistake when he placed his left hand on the older son, and the right hand on the younger one, and tried to correct his father (Genesis 48:18-19), but no; it wasn’t a mistake. Jacob was blessing the boys by faith. He was seeing into the future, and by the words of blessing, he invoked on them the respective future that God had planned.
This is why if people aren’t blessed, even though God has a good plan for them, they’ll never fulfill it, because they have no one to utter the blessings into their lives. Yes, those blessings are there already in the spirit-realm, but they can only be activated by the spoken word; by the affirmation of faith.
It’s one of the reasons to be in the right church, and have a man of God who pronounces the blessings of God over your life. Those words will propel you in the path of divine destiny, to walk in, and fulfill His perfect will for your life.

*PRAYER*

I activate the supernatural life of prosperity, health, victory, strength and promotion as I speak forth words of blessings, in faith, over my life and those of my loved ones. I live victoriously today, in faith, and in the glory of God, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.*

*FURTHER STUDY:

Genesis 48:14-16: And Israel stretched out his right hand, and laid [it] upon Ephraim's head, who [was] the younger, and his left hand upon Manasseh's head, guiding his hands wittingly; for Manasseh [was] the firstborn. 15 And he blessed Joseph, and said, God, before whom my fathers Abraham and Isaac did walk, the God which fed me all my life long unto this day, 16 The Angel which redeemed me from all evil, bless the lads; and let my name be named on them, and the name of my fathers Abraham and Isaac; and let them grow into a multitude in the midst of the earth. *||*

*||* *Romans 10:8* But what saith it? The word is nigh thee, [even] in thy mouth, and in thy heart: that is, the word of faith, which we preach; *||*

*||* *2 Corinthians 4:13* We having the same spirit of faith, according as it is written, I believed, and therefore have I spoken; we also believe, and therefore speak; *||*

*DAILY SCRIPTURE READING*

*1-Year Bible Reading Plan:* John 2:1-25,
2 Samuel 20-21

*2-Year Bible Reading Plan:* 1 Corinthians 4:1-10,
Proverbs 1

*Enjoy your weekend

Meet Demirel, The Strange Barber Who Uses Fire To Cut His Clients' Hair (Photos)

Brave customers at one barbershop really are in the hot seat thanks to a maverick hairdresser’s technique of cutting hair using fire.

Kadir Demirel, who runs Kapsalon Istanbul, in Holland, has ditched the scissors and instead sprays flammable liquid on his clients’ hair before setting it alight.

Shocking footage taken inside the salon shows Mr Demirel using a comb to brush the hair while it is still burning and smoking.

The 39-year-old businessman said: ‘I learnt this technique during my barber training in Turkey.

‘Traditionally it was used as a way of burning away lice when there was no cure and it was also used to style and smooth hair as there were no hair dryers at the time.

‘I use it to tame frizzy hair and burn away dead ends. Healthy hair isn’t damaged by this technique.

‘It can also be used to remove static hair after a cut but I wouldn’t recommend anyone trying it without proper training.

[Image: 4BC2897700000578-5681615-image-a-18_1525249703082.jpg]

‘My customers aren’t scared because they trust me and it’s not painful. I have one customer who is just seven years old and another who is eight.

‘I enjoy my work because it’s so different. I also like to teach other barbers how to use this technique.’

Wizkid Reacts After Davido Bought His Girlfriend A Porsche Car
As the hype continues after Davido bought his girlfriend a brand new car, popular musician, Wizkid has taken a swipe at broke guys.

Wizkid
Nigerian musician, Wizkid has taken to social media to react following Davido‘s romantic gesture to his girlfriend Chioma. Recall that Davido some days back bought a brand new Porsche car as her 23rd birthday gift.
However, while reacting, Wizkid threw shades at 'broke guys' who have been sharing the story on social media.
According to him, it is impossible to give a lady assurance without money. He wrote in Yoruba language: ”Kosowo ofe fun omo ni assurance! #Zombie”
Meaning: "There is no free money for someone seeking assurance! #Zombie"

“I’ve been dating Chioma for 5 years – my baby mamas were side chics”, Davido reveals

[Image: 20748084_l_dcf0e3573c91e731fff1707d76c279be.jpg]
Besides gifting Chioma a N45m Porsche car, Davido made it to the headlines today for other reasons, one of them being how his baby mamas tried to trap him with pregnancy when his heart was with Chioma, the love of his life.
While Sophia Momodu was busy staging a silent war with Davido’s 2nd baby mama, what the public didn’t know was that Sophie never had a place in Davido’s heart. She only used pregnancy to try and trap Davido because she thought he was young and naïve. To her greatest surprise, the singer gave her the shocker of her life. She was just a side chic.
Same goes for his second baby mama. All the while, Davido had a secret lover, Chioma. He revealed he’s been dating Chioma for 5 years. Chioma could have chosen to get pregnant for him. But she didn’t because she isn’t greedy and desperate. For that reason, she won Davido’s heart ultimately, which is why the singer is so crazy over her.
In Davido’s world, finding her kind is rare! Davido revealed this after a fan trolled him over his Porsche car gift to Chioma on her birthday. The troll said: “Well time will tell. We glad you found love. Just kinda too sudden but then hey.” In response, Davido wrote: “If 5 years is sudden, then okay.”

'I was treated like an animal - they wouldn't do it to a white woman': Black woman was kicked off Air Canada flight because she had a RASH on her face
dailymail.co.uk
[Image: 4BD53AA900000578-0-image-a-38_1525397431855.jpg]
A black woman suffering a non-contagious shingles infection was booted from a flight because the crew was under the impression her face was infectious.
Air Canada passenger Jeanne Lehman claims she was racially discriminated against on April 22 after a flight attendant took one look at her and instantly told her she would not be allowed on the plane.
Lehman, who previously was given the OK to fly from her doctor, spoke about the matter to Insider this week.
'I was treated like an animal... when I asked the flight attendant why she was pulling me out of the plane, she didn't answer me. She didn't even look at me,' Lehman said in the statement to Insider.

Lehman suffers a non-contagious shingles infection, and was given permission to fly by her doctor
'She said to me, "You're contagious"  and was practically screaming it in front of everyone.'
Lehman added: 'I told her, "But I am not contagious!" And even if I was, this is not the way to say it. Please don't say this in front of everyone.'
She expressed her frustration about how and why she believes the matter was handled the way it was.
'The flight attendant wouldn't have done this to a white woman,' she said.
'She wouldn't have said it so loudly in front of everyone. There is something about a woman like me that makes them think they can say that without consequence.'
Lehman's flight was cancelled and she was ordered to provide a doctor's note before flying again
Air Canada has since released a statement about the incident after it was made public.
'For privacy reasons we cannot provide details about individual customers, but we can confirm that once the passenger received medical clearance she was able to travel,' the statement said.
'Our priority is always the health and safety of our customers and employees, so we acted out of an abundance of caution.
'Regrettably, the situation resulted in inconvenience for some customers and we will be dealing with them directly.'
Before Lehman was allowed back on one of their flights, Lehman was forced to provide a doctors note at the time of entry on the plane, despite reiterating the first time she had already been given approval from her doctor.
The doctor's note from Lehman's second visit stated clearly that she is 'fit to fly'.

Checkout This Bridal Wedding Dressing Trending On Socials – Outrageous?
[Image: see-the-scandalous-dress-a-bride-wore-at...-photo.jpg]
Did they meet at a night club? And which pastor entertained this kind of wedding? This bride has been trending for wearing “too sexy” dress to her own wedding. The dressing exposed some sensitive areas including her breasts and her belly.
The identity of the couple or where the wedding was help has not yet been ascertained, but since the photo has emerged on the internet, it has received nothing but condemnation, as many have referred to it as scandalous and almost a disrespect to the institution of marriage.
Many others think the wedding dress is a little inappropriate to wear on your wedding day, as many, including male guests and even the officiating priest/pastor could become distracted.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on Thursday, May 3, 2018 secured the conviction of Ikechukwu Elom Awoke, before Justice A. Y. Sanya of the Borno State High Court, Maiduguri, on a 2-count amended charge bordering on conspiracy and cheating to tune of N350,000 (three hundred and fifty thousand naira).

He was sentenced to six months imprisonment with option of fine of N50,000 for conspiracy on count one and eighteen months imprisonment with option of fine of N50,000 for cheating on count two.

The case was triggered by a petition dated August 16, 2017 by one Noami Wanya, who claimed she met the convict through the Facebook, and in the process entered into a relationship with the aim of marrying each other.

In the course of the relationship, Awoke fraudulently obtained N350,000 from the petitioner through his account domiciled in one of the old generation banks, prompting the victim to petition the EFCC. The offence is contrary to and punishable under Sections 320 (a) and 322 of the Penal Code Law Cap 102, Laws of Borno State.

Awoke pleaded guilty to the two counts and was convicted and sentenced by the court after a review of the facts of the case.

The Kogi State Chief Judge, Justice Nasir Ajanah, has granted an interim order for Senator Dino Melaye to be transferred to the National Hospital Abuja, while hearing for his bail conditions will be heard on Monday, next week.
The Chief Judge gave the order at the High Court in Lokoja, on Friday when Counsel to Senator Melaye, Mike Ozekhome (SAN) filed processes for motion seeking the bail of the Senator who is standing trial for conspiracy and gun running among other charges brought against him.
The interim order, the Chief Judge explained was to enable the senator receive medical attention, following the lack of facilities at the Police Clinic in Lokoja where he is been held in police custody.
The Chief Judge disclosed that the interim order became necessary as the prosecution could not provide a federal prison in Abuja that has the required health facilities that will take care of the health condition of Senator Melaye.
The Chief Judge ordered the commissioner of police to be served through his counsel in court, while the Senator be taken to the National Hospital Abuja, still under the custody of the Police.
In his submission for bail, Mike Ozekhome, counsel to Sen. Melaye prayed the court for a speedy trial of the matter.
The Senior Advocate told the Chief Judge that his client’s health was critical, hence the need for him to be transferred to the National Hospital Abuja for proper medical care, before the next adjoined date.
Ozekhome, through a consolidated motion, added that only the living stands trial, urging the prosecution counsel to heed to the request to save the life of his client.
Earlier, the prosecution counsel, Alex Iziyon, SAN, represented by I.E Otome, said they were not objecting to the consolidated motion.
The case has been adjourned till Monday, the 7th of May, for parties to argue for the bail condition of Senator Melaye.
