Man's Joystick Cut Off For Sleeping With A Married Woman. Photos
User Avatar Forum: Other Stories

This is really shocking. According to a video footage making the rounds online, a man went through extreme length to show that his wife is really his property. It was alleged that the aggrieved husband cut of the joystick of a man whom he caught sleeping with his wife.

The man was stripped unclad with blood gushing out from his mutilated private part as neighbors and passersby gathered to see for themselves.

Some people even brought out their phones to record the injured man as he laid on the ground there lamenting.

The poster of the video didn't give the location where it happened but online users have condemned the wicked act by the husband because 'it takes two to tangle'.

Dangote Cement’s N179 Billion Dividend Excites Shareholders
User Avatar Forum: Business/Investment
Posted by: Edoman - 06-21-2018, 08:42 AM - No Replies

Shareholders of Dangote Cement Plc (DCP) yesterday approved the N178.9 billion dividend recommended for the year ended December 31, 2017 and commended the board and management for the impressive performance despite the challenging operating environment.

The cement company, which is the biggest firm listed on the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) ended 2017 with a profit after tax of N204.2 billion, up by 43 per cent from N142.9 billion in 2016. Based on that improved bottom-line, the board recommended a dividend of N178.9 billion, which translated to N10.50 per share, up from N8.70 the previous year.

Speaking at the 7th annual general meeting (AGM) of the company in Lagos, the excited shareholders said DCP had continued to create value for them, urging the board and management to maintain that leading performance going forward.

Specifically, DCP recorded a revenue of N805.6 billion, up by 31 per cent from N615.1 billion in 2016. Profit before tax rose by 60.1 per cent from N180.9 billion to N298.6 billion, while profit after tax grew by43 per cent to N204.2 billion, from N142.9 billion in 2016.

In his address to shareholders, Chairman of DCP, Alhaji Aliko Dangote said the board believed that the recommended dividend is at an appropriate level and was consistent with the company’s aim of delivering superior returns to shareholders, while at the same time balancing the company’s need to invest in growth.

He said as a company, DCP was accorded international credit ratings that were actually higher on a standalone basis than the sovereign country of Nigeria.

“This recognition should assure you, our shareholders, that our long-term view and prudent management are serving us well at a time when others in our industry are facing difficulties that challenge their independence and only serve to erode shareholder value,” he said.

Also speaking, the Acting Chief Executive Officer of DCP, Joseph Makoju said he was pleased with the way the company adapted to marketing efforts to the challenges in the Nigerian economy in 2017.

Looking ahead, Makoju said the company would return to volume growth, particularly in Nigeria as the economy recovers and the higher oil price brings more cash into the country.

“We will continue to focus on improving sales and logistic so we are well prepared for when the market picks up, which we are confident it will in 2018 as infrastructure investment begins to accelerate,” Makoju said.

Naira Gains As CBN Injects $210m Into FX Market
User Avatar Forum: Financial Institutions
Posted by: Edoman - 06-21-2018, 08:41 AM - No Replies

The naira appreciated to N359.5 to a dollar on the parallel market yesterday, compared with the N360 to a dollar it closed on Tuesday.

Also, on the Investors’ and Exporters’ (I&E) window, the nation’s currency strengthened to N361.06 to the dollar, as against the N361.18 to the dollar it closed the previous day.

On the Bureau De Change (BDC) segment, the naira closed at N360 to a dollar yesterday.

This is just as the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), once more, made available the sum of $210 million, to meet customers’ requests in various segments of the foreign exchange market.

In its desire to meet customers’ needs in the various segments of the market, the CBN offered $100 million to authorised dealers in the wholesale segment of the market, while the small and medium scale enterprises (SMEs) segment got boosted with the sum of $55 million.

According to figures made available by the bank yesterday, customers needing foreign exchange for invisibles such as tuition fees, medical payments and Basic Travel Allowance (BTA), among others, were also allocated the sum of $55 million.

The CBN had last Thursday intervened to the tune of $343.06 million to cater for requests in the retail segment of the forex market.

ISIS threat: FG directs security agencies to heighten surveillance at airports
User Avatar Forum: Travel/Aviation

FOLLOWING reports that Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) allegedly sneaking battle-hardened jihadists from Syria into Nigeria to train, Federal government has directed all security agencies dispatched to the airports to immediately embark on rigorous vetting of airlines’ personnel and screening of passengers as well as increase vigilance on restricted areas at all Nigerian airports.
According to the Sun of UK, fanatics from Nigeria are also being sent to the Middle East for training in what the paper describes as a chilling ‘exchange programme’ expressing fears that links between Nigeria and the UK will make it easier for IS to send its killers here to bring more death and destruction.
A letter from the Office of the secretary to the government of the federation, with the reference number, H.150/S.91/56, dated May 25, 2018, directed the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), and the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) to beef up security at the nation’s airports.
Titled ‘Islamic State of Iraq and Syria Threatens to Attack Commercial Flights,’ the letter was signed by one O.M. Olaoye for the secretary to the government of the federation.
The letter states that the Al-Abd al-Faqir Media, a pro-Islamic arm of ISIS had issued the threat against Nigeria in April.
In the letter, the federal government said ISIS warning was issued in English, French, and Arabic and distributed by telegram and other online fora by the terrorist group.
The government said the threat was followed by an image of a clean-shaven ark-haired white man sitting on the aisle seat of a flight with a knife in his hand.
The letter stated that ISIS had claimed responsibility for the explosion and death of all 244 passengers aboard the Russian Metrojet flight 9268 shortly after take-off from Egypt’s Sinai Peninsula in October, 2015 and warned the three agencies not to take the threat with levity.
It added that the warning of April 26 followed a similar warning earlier by ISIS spokesman, Abu Hassan Al-Muhajir, on April 22, 2018, outlining the next stage in the global jihad.
The letter explained that although Africa appeared not to be on ISIS immediate focus, but it noted that the return to Africa of former ISIS fighters from Iraq and Syria, as well as the existence of ISIS-linked groups such as the technically suave Abu Musab Al-Barnawi-led Boko Haram faction, called for increased vigilance in the aviation sector to counter possible new strategies in the terror campaign.
“From the foregoing report, rigorous vetting of airline personnel and screening of passengers as well as increased vigilance on restricted areas at airport are advised,” government said.

ISIS threat: Security consultant faults SGF’s exposure of anti-terror tactics

AVIATION security consultant and scribe of the Aviation Round Table (ART), Group Captain John Ojikutu (Retd) has flayed recent information put out by the Secretary to Government of the Federation (SGF) directing agencies in the aviation industry to beef up security, stating that the situation was supposed to be handled on a need to know basis instead of tipping the terrorists that the country was on to them.
In a conversation with Nigerianflightdeck.com on the security alert raised by the government, captain Ojikutu said the report from the SGF should have been classified and directed to the Office of the NSA or to the Minister of State for Aviation and not directly to the agencies not put online in public media
He said,”I just read online the letter the SGF wrote and sent to the Aviation Security Agencies. With due respect to that office, I think he breached the protocol on national security. The letter is not about ‘ease of doing business’ but it is about a very high warning on threat to national security. It was not classified and it was online on public media.”
“Loading such sensitive information on the public media online could be a source of information to the enemy, jeopardize the national security we are planning to protect and prevent friendly foreign countries from sharing intelligence of interest with us.”
Ojikutu went back to memory lane describing a situation in the early 90s, how it was handled and its far-reaching effect on the country.
He said, “We had similar experience in 1993 when there was a clandestine interdiction of a fugitive by a combined effort of the FBI, SSS and the Military Airport Commandant at MMA Ikeja. The Minister of Information, went public with the press to say Nigeria helped the US to capture the fugitive. Unknown to him, he was exposing the country to terrorist attacks. In fact, it meant the first time Nigeria was on the Osama Bin Laden radar. That action was one of the reasons for suspending direct flight of the Nigerian Airways then to New York.”
“I believe such letter should, if it should emanate from the SGF’s office, it must be under the directive of the national security council and should have been directed to the Office of the NSA or to the Minister of State for Aviation and not directly to the agencies.”
He continued,”I am aware that the NSA chairs the Committee on National Aviation Security where all the heads of the security agencies mentioned in the letter are members. The revised letter, (Classified) from the NSA would have provided guidelines for the issuance of security directives or emergency amendments to all the agencies especially the NCAA to undertake extra security measures above the established baselines specified in the National Civil Aviation Security Programmes.”
Finally, he advised: “Key response to any terrorist attacks is pre-emptive and actionable intelligence in the defense layers. Regular or periodic background checks on all airport staff particularly the ground handling staff working in the airport security-controlled areas. The background checks or vetting must include airlines cabin and technical crew.”
“More importantly, the airlines must update their Advance Passengers Information Systems (APIS) to the Computer Advance Pre Passengers Screening Systems to select the non-regular travellers with the aim of identifying those that could be threats and those who could be risk to flights so as to put such passengers on ‘no fly list’
Loading sensitive information on national security online could jeopardise the national security. In future such information must not only be classified but must be on need to know.”

FG To Build 94 Ranches In 10 States

Fed Govt to build 94 ranches in 10 states
Posted By: Yusuf Alli On: June 20, 2018

Ninety-four ranches are on the way in 10 states prone to herdsmen/farmers clashes.

The National Economic Council (NEC) chaired by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has approved a 10-year National Livestock Plan which will cost about N179 billion. All 36 state governors are members of the NEC.

About N70 billion of the budget will disbursed between now and the expiration of President Muhammadu Buhari’s first four-year tenure next year.

The project is expected to take off in Benue and Nasarawa states any time from now.

These disclosures were made by NEC representatives, including Governor Samuel Ortom, Agriculture and Rural Development Minister Audu Ogbe, and the Coordinator of the plan, Dr. Andrew Kwasari, at a session with editors in Abuja.

The session was facilitated by the Open Society Initiative for West Africa (OSIWA) – a non-government organisation.

Ogbe, who said “open grazing is no longer viable”, said cattle rearers would be the greatest beneficiaries in the next few years.

He also said the Federal Government has no intention of seizing anybody’s land by force.

A technical presentation of the NEC-approved plan, including the enumeration of the six key pillars on which the plan is built, was made by Kwasari.

He said: “In addition to loss of human lives, it is estimated that Nigeria loses about $14 billion (N5.04 trillion) annually to herdsmen-farmers’ conflicts.

“Domestic annual milk production in Nigeria is only 400 million litres, resulting in supply

gap of about 700 million litres.

“To fill these growing gaps, Nigeria spends a large amount of its scarce foreign exchange resource to import livestock products, with average of $480.6 million (N173.3 billion) worth of milk imports alone per year.

“The National Livestock Implementation Plan is a mediation plan stemming from meetings and recommendations of the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (FMARD) and the National Economic Council (NEC) in 2017 as regards state interventions following the incessant pastoralist-farmer conflicts.

“We are going to have 94 ranches in 10 states. We have received 21 gazetted grazing reserves from seven states. Plan focuses on pilot intervention in the frontline states Adamawa, Benue, Edo, Ebonyi, Kaduna, Nasarawa, Oyo, Plateau, Taraba, and Zamfara.

“A Ranch Design Plan has also been proposed in models of various sizes clustered in 94 locations in the 10 pilot states. We will have clusters of 30, 60, 150, and 300 cow ranch models in a location within the donated and gazetted grazing reserves.

“The total spending for the 10-year period is slightly in excess of N179 billion. Funding for the first three years of the pilot phase is about N70 billion.

“The ranch is also designed as an integrated business which makes provision for (a) the development of commercial crop production to support livestock through the supply of quality fodder and other feed materials, (b) the formation of producers into clusters to create viable ranch herd sizes, and © creation of cooperatives to facilitate improved access to inputs, infrastructure, finance, markets, and support services.”

The minister said there was no going back on the creation of ranches, dismissing the insinuation that the government planned to seize land from owners or communities.

He said the conflicts between herdsmen and farmers were not about anti-open grazing laws.

His words: “So the conflict didn’t begin because the laws were passed. No, the conflict has been brewing but the laws were enacted in desperation by a state. Farmers went to the governor and complained, ‘they are killing us’, so the governor says, ‘let me pass a law’. If we did what we are doing now 20 years ago, we will not be where we are now.

“The truth is that open grazing is no longer viable. We may not end it in one day, but it has to end and government has to help. This conflict is not peculiar to Nigeria alone; it’s happening in Argentina; it happened in the U.S . in the 19th century, in Pakistan and others. So, this is what we should have started doing 20 years ago. We didn’t and that’s why we are where we are.

“Lastly, the government has no intention of seizing anybody’s land. So, the idea that somebody is going to forcefully take the land is not true. In Fashola’s farm , there are Fulani residents there who speak Yoruba fluently.

“One of them said, ‘we have found peace here’. They produce fresh milk for Friesland Capina. If you see the turnover of Friesland Capina during their annual turnover, you will be amazed. These are the issues.

“The ECOWAS Treaty says free movement of human, animals and goods. We had a meeting with the ECOWAS ministers here. We are going to have another. We will tell them, ‘you must do what Nigerians want’. Roaming around is no longer an answer. We may have to shut our borders. How large is the Nigerian border space? 4037 square kilometres is the landmass from Sokoto to Badagry and from Borno to Calabar. Added up it’s plus 830 kilometres of coastline. Half of our borders are open . Should we build a wall? People wander in and out. So it is a very complex thing.

“When we implement this thing, how do we prevent cows from West Africa marching in when they like with no respect for our tradition and cultures? These are the problems we face.

In these ranches, we can then say nomadic education can work, the Fulani are in clusters. By 5am, they milk their cows and sell to the milk processing plants which will be installed there. They begin to realise that it pays to stay.

“There is an experiment we did in Kano. The firm tried to settle a number of herdsmen in a location and they gave scholarship to their children. If your male child is in school, they buy your milk for N120 per litre but if your girl child is in school, they buy it for N140 per litre and believe me, every morning Fulani send their children to school while they milk their cows. They have to be in one place. So a lot of incentives will come and we will use the cow dungs to generate electricity.”

Benue State Governor Samuel Ortom said over 180,000 internally displaced persons were in eight camps in the state.

He said: “We have over 180,000 IDPs in eight camps and over 5,000 people living with relatives. We have had massive support from all over the world and this is attributed to the media, and I commend this.

“ I believe that after this interaction, there will be more to do. The Presidency is not sleeping. They have devised various ways in giving us additional information to help us shape our opinions and also express our opinions on how best this challenge can be surmounted.

“A committee had earlier been set up, headed by my colleague from Ebonyi and, unfortunately, he is not here. He and members of his committee visited Benue, Nasarawa, Taraba, Adamawa, and Zamfara states. Of course, they came back with a report, which was considered and far-reaching decisions were taken as to how they will summon this challenge.

“I’d like to appreciate the Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo for his able leadership and for helping us to come this far. People say from where I come that ignorance is darker than the night and so when you’re informed, you’re in a better position to represent issues properly.

“For me, as the governor of Benue State and someone who has been affected by recent challenges of farmers and herdsmen, I must commend the media in Nigeria. You have done very well, and maybe for other states that have been affected as well, you have represented the issues well.”

General Manager of Capital FM Mercy Njoku, said the engagement was designed to enable the media to understand the herdsmen-farmers conflicts.

She said: “It is important for the press to have a clear understanding of what is happening.

“I know every media person wants peace, stability and development.

We want a country where there will be peace, security and economic boom.”

2019: Atiku Explains Why He Didn’t Perform Under Obasanjo, Speaks On Looting Pub
User Avatar Forum: Politics
Posted by: Edoman - 06-20-2018, 12:06 PM - No Replies

Former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar has explained why he performed below expectation the last time he was in government as a Vice President.

Atiku also said that anyone with evidence that he stole or built his investment on public funds should come forth with such.

The former Vice President said that Nigerian constitution did not give him the powers to execute projects, adding that he lacked the powers to execute official projects of his own initiative while in office.

He said he had limited capacity to deliver even on some lofty projects designed for his own state in Adamawa while he served with President Obasanjo.

Atiku said this on Tuesday while speaking to journalists on arrival at the Port Harcourt International Airport in continuation of his consultations to Bayelsa and Rivers States for his 2019 presidential bid.

Atiku, who is a PDP presidential hopeful, pointed out that the administration he served in as Vice President awarded contracts for the Mayo Belwa-Jada-Ganye-Tongo and Yola-Mubi-Maiduguri roads in Adamawa State in its first term.

He said that there was supposed to be a spur of the road linking Mambilla in Taraba State and thereby making it the shortest cut to Mambilla but execution of these projects were delayed and later truncated on the altar of politics.

Atiku said allegations that funds meant for road projects in the state were diverted to build the American University of Nigeria in Yola was being unfair to him, and that “it shows lack of understanding of how government runs on the part of the people making such allegations. Government does not run on such pedestrian level, it is a process.”

He maintained that all the money used for setting up the first development university in Africa came from private sources.

“To set the records straight, no public funds were involved in all my investments in several sectors that have continued to provide jobs and enhance educational and socio-economic well-being of Nigerians. I have always been contented with what God has given to me in all its ramifications and I thank Him for using me to better the lot of the people.

“Without being immodest, I was a successful businessman before going into politics and subsequently becoming the Vice President by Allah’s Grace. I was not desperate to be in government in order to make money but to serve the people in my own little way and contribute my quota to its overall development.”

Atiku asserted that he was the most investigated Vice President in Nigeria, and challenged “anybody with evidence linking public funds to the AUN or any of his private investment should come forward to prove that.”

Atiku lamented that some people do not appreciate individuals who create wealth by their personal initiative and resourcefulness but rather hold contrary views with the stigma of such possessing ill-gotten wealth.

He said that it was wrong to assume that one can’t succeed without stealing public funds, noting that it is well documented that he (Atiku) had made a success of his businesses before he was tapped as Vice President.

“If money was my motivation for seeking elective office, I would not have joined the presidential race at any point in time in my political career. My ability to make money through my businesses was established long before I was chosen as Vice President,” he said.

He stressed that passion for service, and the desire to bring efficiency in the management of government affairs are the main reasons he wants to run for President.

Govt opens battle to retrieve N138b trapped in 17 banks

Over N138 billion National Insurance Health Scheme (NHIS) cash is trapped in 17 banks, financial companies and individual pockets from January 2011 to date, a Federal Government team has discovered.
Successive NHIS managements had investments in some banks but could not recoup them in the last seven years.

The NHIS Governing Council has raised posers for the incumbent Executive Secretary, Yusuf Usman, for not drawing its attention to the scandal.
The response of the NHIS boss is being awaited by the council, The Nation learnt yesterday.
The trapped funds were discovered by an accounting  firm, Aruna Bawa and Company, which was engaged by the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Mallam Abubakar Malami (SAN).
Malami mandated the accounting firm to look into the trapped investments, after a whistle-blower blew the lid off them.
The identities of the banks and the individuals were not available yesterday.
In a November 13, 2017  letter to former NHIS Acting  Executive Secretary Attahiru Ibrahim, the AGF said “Messrs. Aruna Bawa & Co.  (Chartered Accountants) had been engaged by the Federal government  on August 15, last year.

“The mandate of the firm is to carry out a forensic audit and backlog recovery of all National Health Insurance Scheme’s (NHIS’) funds held by financial institutions, companies, individuals into the Federal Government’s Treasury in accordance with the extant laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and the terms and conditions of the Agency Agreement executed by the parties on the 19th day of September, 2017.
“Please render the firm the requisite cooperation, support and information needed to carry out this task for and on behalf of the Federal Government of Nigeria. Please accept the assurances of my highest regards.”
In a May 21 , 2018 report to the Chairperson of the NHIS Governing Council, Dr. Enyantu Ifenne, the accounting firm said over N138billion NHIS cash was trapped.
The report said: “We have determined the amount due from each of the financial institutions that NHIS placed Investments or operated a current account with, before the adventure of the TSA policy.
“We have already worked out forensic update and have submitted the results of same to the Federal Ministry of Justice, Federal Ministry of Finance and the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN). Please find attached as Annexure A, a summary of amounts due from each of the financial institutions, mentioned in the preceding paragraph.
“A total amount of N138,088,353,172, made up of principal plus  accrued interest charges, compounded up to April 29, 2018 are  as at the date of this letter, due from the financial institutions that are holding onto the funds.
“Please note, the amount due from each of them, duly analysed into various headings, based on the nature of the amount outstanding, such as: Accrued Interest Shortfall  (Total amount – N24,630,784,864), Loss Arising from Failure to Use CBN Rate to Place Investments  (Total Amount – N7,909,339,409), Capitalised Interest Shortfall  (Total Amount – N4, 657,631,261), Un-recouped Investments  (Principal -Interest – Total Amount – N46,832,773,759), Unexplained Interest Reversals (Total Amount – N1,810, 455,551), Transfers to NHIS TSA,  not Reflected in NHIS’ TSA Statement Issued by the CBN (Total Amount – N52,247,368,327), has been served on each of the banks involved, by way of a notice of indebtedness and demand for payment.
“NHIS has yet to provide us with copies of some of the Investment placement documents,   a list of which we gave to the then Acting Executive Secretary, Mallam Attahiru Ibrahim.  We would be most grateful if these documents are provided.”
But the accounting firm said it would require more cooperation from NHIS to recover all the trapped funds.
It said: “Our firm, Aruna Bawa & Co, has been in practice as chartered accountants for more than three decades and has successfully undertaken a wide variety of complex assignments, the knowledge and experience of which are being brought to bear on the conduct of this assignment.
“We understand that NHIS is concerned about the ownership of the Funds to be recovered from the financial institutions concerned.
“In this regard, we suggest NHIS work with us to first recover these funds, and thereafter approach the Federal Government to transfer the funds to its account in CBN.
“For now, it is in the overriding public interest to recover these funds from the financial institutions concerned. We have already blown the whistle, entered into an agency contract with the Federal Ministry of Justice on behalf of the Federal Government of Nigeria, determined the amount due from each bank based on the audit and recovery work we did at NHIS and CBN, and served notices of indebtedness and payment demand notices on the banks concerned.
“Accordingly, as the Honourable Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice … in his Letter of Introduction (See Annexure C) we hereby appeal to the NHIS’  Governing Council and Management to continue to give us the requisite cooperation, support and information we require for the orderly execution of this assignment.”
The Governing Council has asked Usman to respond to the discovery which was not brought to its knowledge.
It said its attention was also drawn to the engagement of Sofura Professional Services for forensic audit of its financial records.
It said Aruna Bawa and Company said there was no nexus between its Asset Recovery mandate given to it by the AGF and a separate engagement of Sofura Professional Services.
A memo to the  Executive Secretary  was signed by the Chairman of the Governing Council, Dr. Enyantu lfenne.
The memo was titled  “Re: Forensic audit and backlog  recovery of NHIS funds held by financial institutions, companies and individuals on behalf of the Federal Government of Nigeria.”
The Council said: “A firm of Chartered Accountants, Aruna Bawa & Co., presented a letter titled “Re: Forensic Audit and Backlog Recovery of NHlS’ Funds held by Financial institutions, Companies and Individuals, on Behalf of the Federal Government of Nigeria”. In addition, the firm submitted voluminous documents.
“Significantly, the documents were delivered on 25th May, the same day that l had audience with CBN Governor to present Council’s request for recovery of NHIS funds trapped in commercial banks. The petition by Aruna Bawa & Co is herewith attached
“You may recall that in response to presentation of the Forensic Audit Report by Sofura Professional Services, Council resolved to proactively move to recover NHIS funds. In fact, the financial data and the narrative of Council request to CBN Governor were based on the Forensic Audit Report.
“The Petition by Aruna Bawa & Co, made the following allegations:

  • the firm was engaged by the. Federal Government Asset Recovery and Management Unit in Federal Ministry of Justice under a whistle blowing intervention to recover NHIS funds trapped in commercial banks;
  • that, you, as Executive Secretary, encouraged them to  enlist in the whistle-blowing project before and during your suspension;
  • that Acting Executive Secretary requested for and received approval from, the Minister of Health directing NHIS to support the exercise. Accordingly, key senior staff were assigned to work with the firm;
  • that the assignment has advanced to the extent that listed banks were served indebtedness profiles and demand notices and presumably, CBN so informed;
  • that no duly executed contract  exists between NHIS and Sofura Professional Services for the Forensic Audit and Asset Recovery;
The Council is interested in these grave revelations for the following reasons;
“Suggestion that Aruna Bawa & Co and Sofura Professional Services are locked in an ownership contest for the financial data, and by inference, rights to financial rewards accruable from recovered funds.
“Likelihood that these developments/ revelations may undermine public confidence in Council’s integrity, transparency and motives for funds recovery efforts,
“Controversy arising from the conflict between the accounting firms may jeopardise recovery of NHIS funds.
“Council was not informed about FGN approved initiative to recover NHIS funds trapped in commercial banks.
“To clear these concerns and guide Council on the way forward, you are requested to:
  • respond to the salient issues contained in the attached.
  • address the conflict of interest issues raised, specifically on page 5.
  • explain fully, the procurement process, fees, terms and conditions of engagement of and all payments to, Sofura Professional Services for Forensic Audit; Retainer contracts. Please provide  copies of procurement processes contract, and payment documents.
  • clarify your intention for not disclosing to Council the FGN intervention to recover NHIS funds trapped in commercial banks.
Although the council  gave a June 12, 2018 deadline to the NHIS Executive Secretary to submit the details on the investments, there has been no response from him.
A top source in NHIS said: “This exercise predated the new Executive Secretary of NHIS, Prof. Yusuf Usman. They are talking of funds invested between 2011 to date. The Executive Secretary will respond to issues raised by the council. The good thing is that no one is accusing the Executive Secretary of embezzling funds.”

The Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) has asked the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN
User Avatar Forum: Politics

The Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) has asked the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) to either endorse or disown ‘This is Nigeria’ video by Folarin Falana, aka Falz the Bahd Guy.

The Muslim body had announced that it will no longer approach the court to seek a ban on the video.

In a statement on Tuesday, its Director, Prof Ishaq Akintola, urged CAN to declare its position on the matter.

“We have no other option than to openly ask the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) if it is behind this move. Is CAN leadership aware of this segregational campaign? Did CAN initiate it or did it just endorse it? Should we also believe rumours of CAN’s surreptitious meetings with high ranking foreign diplomats in unholy hours of the day? Is CAN aware of the security implications of such meetings? Is CAN with Nigeria or against Nigeria? Et tu CAN? It had better not be.

“What kind of people are we that we continue to drag ourselves backwards while the rest of the world is going forward? Election campaign should be issue-based. Religion is not given any room in politics in other climes. Why should we be looking at the faith of a candidate and not his pedigree, his integrity and his antecedence?

“It is a pity that CAN still pushes primordial sentiment like religion to the front burner when advanced countries only consider credibility and ability to deliver. Why is it that CAN cannot tolerate Muslim leadership after Muslims have tolerated Christian leadership for so long?” He asked.

The Islamic human rights outfit also wondered why Muslims should not be allowed to rule for the same long period that Christians had been in office.

“It is on record that of the 16 wasted years of PDP rule, a Muslim (former President Umaru Yaradua) only ruled for two years and he died in office. Christians ruled for 14 years (ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo: 8 years and Goodluck Jonathan: 6 years). So why can’t you live and let live?

“Even as divisive and destructive as it is, the idea of Christians voting for Christians only still remains naïve and utopia. Who told CAN that it can install a Christian president with an all-Christian vote? It is a mirage. CAN is day-dreaming. What if Muslims also ask their fellow Muslims not to vote for any Christian candidate? What do you think will happen? But we will not descend so low. We will not ask Muslims not to vote for Christian candidates. Whoever is behind this video and the anti-Muslim campaign in general is promoting anarchy,” it added.

The organization argued that “Nigeria is a heterogeneous, multi-religious and multi-cultural project which belongs to nobody and it is bigger than any section. For any progress to be made, Muslims and Christians as well as all ethnic groups, it said, have to sink their differences.

“We all have to work together. Nigeria is a wrong candidate for ‘possessing your possession’ slogans.”

Akintola admitted that Nigeria was blessed with good Christian candidates and credible Muslim candidates.

He urged Nigerians to create an enabling environment for the emergence of such good candidates. Narrowing the search to any particular religion or ethnic group, he argued, is not only self-defeating but also counter-productive.

“In a nutshell, we reiterate our conviction that we do not believe in religious politics. We Muslims are prepared to peacefully coexist with our Christian neighbours in Nigeria. We urge Muslims to get their PVC and vote for both Christian and Muslim candidates of their choice. The only proviso is that such candidates must be reformers and game changers, not looters, kleptomaniacs and politicians in the daytime but armed robbers at night,” he said.

The gun runner was arrested with one Ekioyoufegha Agge 'm' 34 years from Oboro Town, in Delta State, who usually introduces him to buyers.

The Economic And Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Port Harcourt Zonal Office, have arrested a fake school operator allegedly awarding the National Certificate of Education, NCE and Bachelor of Education degree without authorization and accreditation.
The suspect, John Ogbonnaya, was arrested in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

He allegedly registered Havana International School of Arts and Science in 2017 with two other suspects: Monday Nwapi and Mrs Justina Okafor.

They are holding lectures in two centres in Port Harcourt: Brilliant International Schools, Nsukka Street, Diobu and Paragon City Light College, Agip area.

Since the inception of the main school, scores of unsuspecting students have been defrauded and made to pay for application forms , school fees and project fees.

The students were made to believe that Havana International School of Arts & Science was affiliated to four different institutions: Abia State College of Education( Technical); Ebenezer College of Education, Edda, Ebonyi State, Enugu State College of Education and University Of Calabar, Cross River State.
Investigations by the Commission showed that Havana International School of Arts and Science had no valid affiliation with any of the four institutions.

The National Commission for Colleges of Education, NCCE, had in 2008 barred all Colleges of Education in Nigeria from operating satellite campuses or study centres. Havana School of Arts and Science allegedly flouted the directive and was operating illegally.

The suspect would soon be charged to court.

Rats blamed for eating N17 Million banknotes inside ATM

Technicians who arrived to fix a malfunctioning cash machine in the Indian state of Assam got a shock when they opened it up.
Notes worth more than 1.2m rupees (£13,300; $17,600) had been shredded – and the suspected culprits are rats.
Police said the rodents probably entered the machine through a hole for wiring, the Hindustan Times reported .
Pictures of the chewed cash at the State Bank of India branch in Tinsukia district were widely shared on Twitter.
One shows a dead rodent lying in the debris.
Report
Police official Prakash Sonowal said that the machine had been out of action for about 12 days, the Hindustan Times added.
Technicians who took the unit apart found banknotes of 2,000 and 500 rupee denominations destroyed. They managed to salvage another 1.7m rupees, officials said.

CAN Rejects Ex-boko Haram Recruit Into Army, Police
User Avatar Forum: Religion
Posted by: Edoman - 06-20-2018, 10:43 AM - No Replies

The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has opposed reported moves by the Federal Government directing the Nigerian Army and Police to recruit some former members of Boko Haram terrorists who recently underwent deradicalisation programme.

The President of CAN, Dr Samson Olasupo Ayokunle, said on Tuesday that if it is true, it is condemnable as it is capable of undermining the nation’s security system.

“CAN is visibly disturbed at reports that the Federal Government has allegedly directed the Nigerian Army and Police to recruit some former members of Boko Haram terrorists who recently underwent deradicalisation programme.

“If it is true, CAN condemns such a policy in strong terms and ask the Federal Government, especially security agencies, to withdraw that directive which is capable of compromising the nation’s security system,” Ayokunle said in the statement signed by his spokesman, Pastor Adebayo Oladeji.

He also urged the Federal Government to caution the Adamawa State Government against hasty implementation of the death sentence passed on five Christian youths alleged to have killed a Fulani herdsman.

He cited reports that Justice Abdul-Azeez Waziri of a High Court in Adamawa State recently sentenced Alex Amos, Alheri Phanuel, Holy Boniface, Jerry Gideon and Jari Sabagi to death for culpable homicide.

The convicts were said to have allegedly on June 1, 2017, at Kadamun village in Demsa Local Government Area ‘willfully and intentionally conspired and attacked three herdsmen rearing cattle, killing one of them, Adamu Buba, whose body they threw into a river and also maimed several cows.’

“While CAN is not supporting jungle justice or any criminality, we note with regret how hundreds of our members in Southern Kaduna, Benue, Taraba, Plateau states in the North-central, and a state like Enugu in the South, have been killed and are still being killed daily by some criminals parading themselves as Fulani herdsmen, but are yet to be apprehended.

“While citizens stood helpless at the massacre of their peaceful fellow Nigerians, the international community watched in anguish how government security agencies could not bring perpetrators of these heinous killings to book,” he said.

While urging President Muhammadu Buhari to intervene in the death sentence passed on the Christian youths in Adamawa, he said the association’s legal team will secure and study the text of the judgement to prevent a miscarriage of justice and a future re-occurrence

FG To Disburse $322m Abacha Loot To Nigerians - Daily Trust
User Avatar Forum: Politics
Posted by: Edoman - 06-20-2018, 10:38 AM - No Replies

Quote:The Federal Government is making final preparation to disburse $322 million fund repatriated from the accounts of former Head of State, late General Sani Abacha in Switzerland to Nigerians.

The National Coordinator of the Open Government Partnership (OGP), Nigeria and Special Assistant to the President on Justice Reforms, Juliet Ibekaku-Nwagwu disclosed this recently in an interactive session with newsmen.

Ibekeaku-Nwagwu said under MoU with Switzerland the funds would be paid directly into the accounts of the poorest Nigerians through their various accounts for two years and identification numbers to be made available on the website being developed by the National Social Investment office and the World Bank.

She solicited the patience of Nigerians, explaining that the agencies working on the modalities would brief the public on June 28, adding that the process for the payment will be transparent for civil society and the media to monitor.

She said despite oppositions against the MoU from within and outside government, the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF), Abubakar Malami (SAN) and his team have pursued President Muhammadu Buhari’s agenda of ensuring that the $322m was returned for deployment in the social safety nets project, which would make targeted transfers to the poor and vulnerable households.

“The poorest members of the community will be registered online, and before you make any payment, they must have an ID number so that every payment would be tracked. No amount will be paid out without a joint signature between Nigeria and the World Bank and without identification of individuals,” she said.

Ibekeaku-Nwagwu said President Buhari’s commitment to the Open Government Partnership during the London Summit in 2016 has enhanced transparency and accountability in government budgeting and contracting, adding that “If there is anything we have achieved its about getting Nigerian citizens to become conscious about what is happening with their money.”

NSE-listed group Access Bank raised, via its London-based subsidiary, a $158 million trade finance facility from 13 international banks.

Initially set at $100 million the amount was increased to $158 million due to higher investor interest.

The operation was coordinated by the multilateral institution African Trade Insurance (ATI) and the Dubai-based Mashreq Bank. According to analysts, this amount is one of the highest mobilized by a Nigerian bank following the foreign currency shortage in recent years.

Access Bank Uk, Commerzbank, London Forfaiting Company and Mashreq Bank were the financing’s main arrangers, jointly with some African banks. These include the Moroccan BMCE Bank of Africa, Mauritius Commercial Bank and State Bank of Mauritius.

  Currency-in-circulation Drops To N1.668 Trillion
User Avatar Forum: Business/Investment
Posted by: Edoman - 06-20-2018, 10:33 AM - No Replies

The total value of currency-in-circulation in the country reduced by N269 billion year-on-year to N1.668trillion as of the end of March thisyear, down from the N1.937 trillionrecorded in February 2018, the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN)revealed in its latest money and credit statistics for March.

Currency- in- circulation refers to the total value of currency (coins and paper currency) issued during a given period, minus the amount that has been removed from the economy by the central bank.

Also, the data showed that banking sector credit to the private sectorreduced marginally year-on-year to N22.444 trillion at the end of March, compared to the N22.621 trillion it was as at the end of the previous month.

The central bank data showed that broad money (M2), which is made up of demand deposits at commercial banks and monies held in easily accessible accounts increased slightly year-on-year from N24.019 trillion the previous month, to N24.303 trillion at the end of the review month.

Similarly, narrow money (M1), which included all physical monies such as coins and currency along with demand deposits and other assets held by the central bank rose year-on-year to N10.913 trillion in the review month, as against the N10.731 trillion recorded the previous month. In the same vein, the data gathered from the central bank’s website showed that the amount of currency outside banks increased to N1.668 trillion, up marginally from the N1.571 trillion it was as at the end of February 2018.

Furthermore, it put the total amount of banks’ reserves with the central bankat N4.357 trillion as of the end of March, compared with the N4.160 trillion recorded at the end of the previous month.

In addition, demand deposits, which are funds held in an account from which deposited funds can be withdrawn at any time without any advance notice to the depository institution increased to N9.244 trillionin March, compared to the N9.160 trillion recorded the previous month, just as Quasi Money, which are highly liquid assets other than cash, that can be quickly converted, stood at N13.390 trillion in March, up from N13.288 trillion the previous month.

Analysts at FSDH Merchant Bank Limited had projected that banking sector credit to the private sector would rise this year. The firm held the view that the manufacturing sector would attract the highest credit this year, further adding that the uncertainties surrounding the fuel subsidy in the petroleum marketing sector may lead to a contraction of credit to that sector.

It noted that the improvement in the macroeconomic and business environment; improved consumers’ confidence; and the drop in the yields on the Nigerian Treasury Bills (NTBs) would be the main drivers of the expected credit growth.
“Our findings show that the agriculture sector in Nigeria is faced with many problems. Thus, the sector is unable to attract the required
credit.

“Some of the problems are: inadequate storage facilities; poor transport network; inadequate research to develop improved seedlings; and weak integration between the sector and the manufacturing sector in providing manufacturing inputs.”
The CBN Governor, Mr. Godwin Emefiele had assured Nigerians that the central bank would continue to explore measures that would see that
interest rates are supportive of domestic production.

According to him, the Bank would continue to fine tune measures to ensure and guarantee a stable exchange rate regime.
Emefiele had pointed out that with on-going recovery in economic performance, he was optimistic that improved outcomes would be recorded in the central bank’s work towards taming inflation, bringing down interest rates and guaranteeing exchange rate stability.

RHAPSODY OF REALITIES

WEDNESDAY, 20TH JUNE.

EXCITING BENEFITS OF PRAYER.

Pray without ceasing (1 Thessalonians 5:17).
When you understand the importance and higher purposes of prayer, you’ll always be willing and excited to pray, especially in other tongues.
One of the beautiful things the Holy Spirit has done in our lives as God’s children is to give us the ability to speak in other tongues.

When we speak in tongues, the utterance, the words we speak, aren’t man-made but from the Lord. Moreover, we aren’t speaking to men but to God: “For he that speaketh in an unknown tongue speaketh not unto men, but unto God: for no man understandeth him; howbeit in the spirit he speaketh mysteries” (1 Corinthians 14:2). When you pray in tongues, you’re in fellowship with the Father; you’re communicating with Him through the Spirit in a heavenly language. What a blessing that is!

Also, praying in tongues helps to stir up the power of God resident in your spirit. Though that power came into your life when you received the Holy Spirit (Acts 1:8), you’ve got to keep it active and in use for His glory.
Praying in tongues will keep you more “fit” spiritually, and responsive to the guidance and promptings of the Spirit. The more time you spend in fellowship with the Lord, praying in the Holy Ghost, the more His character and personality are revealed in, and manifested through you.

Some are only compelled to pray when they face crises in life, and that’s not right. We’re called into fellowship with our heavenly Father; that’s what prayer, and praying, is primarily for: fellowship!

Take your personal and corporate times of prayer very seriously. Create the opportunities in the course of your day to fellowship with the Lord through prayer, and your life will flourish from glory to glory.

PRAYER
How great thou art O Lord! Your glory, greatness, and majesty are beyond description. Thank you for your presence in my life, and your Word that builds and transforms me in ever-increasing glory. Thank you for the privilege of speaking in other tongues and to fellowship with you in such deep intimacy, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.

FURTHER STUDY:

Acts 4:31 And when they had prayed, the place was shaken where they were assembled together; and they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and they spake the word of God with boldness.

James 5:16 AMPC Confess to one another therefore your faults (your slips, your false steps, your offenses, your sins) and pray [also] for one another, that you may be healed and restored [to a spiritual tone of mind and heart]. The earnest (heartfelt, continued) prayer of a righteous man makes tremendous power available [dynamic in its working].

AFFIRMATIONTRAIN

20TH JUNE.

I affirm that my life is the manifestation of the wisdom and grace of God! I live in the fullness of the blessings of the Gospel of Christ. I’m joined to the Lord and that makes me impregnable to the rudiments of this world. I am what God says I am! I’ve been justified by faith and I walk in the light of my new life in Christ, without condemnation but as the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus. I’ve been declared righteous, unblameable, unreprovable and brought into the life of peace that transcends all understanding. I’ve overcome the world, the devil and the forces of hell because I am a product of the incorruptible Word of God, which lives and abides forever. I am seated with Christ in the heavenly realms—a place of authority, victory, safety, and deliverance—far removed from all earthly distractions. Hallelujah! I am a king-priest and I am “kinging” now! I live up to my calling, displaying the virtues and perfections of Christ! I exude excellence in all aspects of my life, fruitful and productive in all things by the Holy Ghost. Blessed be God. Hallelujah!

SPEAK IN OTHER TONGUES NOW

• Be bold to say the same things that God has said concerning you in His Word. That is what takes you beyond salvation, to enjoy the benefits of salvation ~ Pastor Chris Oyakhilome.

God bless you

The violence in Ekiti keeps growing ahead of the July 14 gubernatorial election in the state. Yesterday night, the family house of governor Ayo Fayose's Chief of Staff, Dipo Anisulowo was set ablaze by some hoodlums.

According to reports, the thugs were said to have attempted to burn the new Oja Oba market that is under construction but presence of security men prevented them.

They set the Chief of Staff's family house on fire when they saw the family name written on it.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) deputy governorship candidate, Kazeem Deji Ogunsakin and Chairman of Ado LG, Clement Bamisile was there today, to commiserate with occupants of the house.

This is coming after two supporters of Peoples Democratic Party, Adeleye Gbenga and Dimeji Adeleye were attacked and seriously injured by some unknown thugs in Aramoko Ekiti two days ago. The thugs also damaged their campaign vehicle.

Adeniran Alagbada Dumps PDP, Joins APC In Ekiti
User Avatar Forum: Retired Forums. Please Make Your Post Within The 3 Forums In General Discussion
Posted by: Edoman - 06-19-2018, 08:06 PM - No Replies

The Deputy Leader of the Ekiti State House of Assembly, Hon Adeniran Alagbada, has dumped the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and pitched his political tent with the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Alagbada, representing Ise/Orun constituency, renounced his membership of the PDP in Ado Ekiti on Tuesday, saying he decided to dump the PDP based on some lapses noticed in the party.

Briefing newsmen in Ado-Ekiti on his decision, he said, “I have consulted my leaders and the good people of my constituency in Ise Orun Local Government that elected me as honourable member of Ekiti State House of Assembly before this press conference on my decision and they approved of it”.

On how Hon Gboyega Aribisogan was suspended indefinitely for defecting to the APC, Alagbada said he had no reason to fret over such action, stressing that he has the fundamental rights of freedom of association as enshrined in the constitution.

He added: “I have also obtained their full consent before this historic declaration. I’m aware and it is an historical fact that during the 2014 PDP primary, Governor Ayo Fayose promised my constituency, Ise Orun, the governorship after his tenure.

“We were therefore very hopeful when two of our illustrious sons, Prince Dayo Adeyeye and Barrister Owoseeni Ajayi came out to show interests to contest for the PDP gubernatorial candidate.

“My constituency was therefore shocked and surprised when none of the two aspirants from my constituency was found worthy of support by the governor.

“Not only did he disdain them but worked ruthlessly to ensure their manipulation out as candidate of the PDP in preference for the Deputy Governor, Prof Kokapo Olusola Eleka who was nowhere when we risked everything to ensure the victory of the governor both at the primary and general election.

“Prince Dayo Adeyeye and Barrister Owoseeni Ajayi have since left in protest to join the APC. My constituency too who elected me into the House of Assembly are also aggrieved and have directed me to follow suit with my leaders.

“Consequently, in accordance with the directive of the good people of Ise/Orun constituency of Ekiti state House of Assembly, I hereby resign as the Deputy Majority Leader of Ekiti State House of Assembly and my membership of the Peoples Democratic Party due to irreconcilable breaking into factions of the PDP in Ekiti state following the rancorous gubernatorial primary.

“I also use this opportunity to announce my defection to the All Progressives Congress forthwith,” he concluded.

2019: Work Has Started - Obasanjo Reveals What Will Happen To Buhari
User Avatar Forum: Politics
Posted by: Edoman - 06-19-2018, 07:59 PM - No Replies

@POLITICSNGR

Ex President Olusegun Obasanjo has revealed that 'work' has started towards the removal of President Muhammadu Buhari in the upcoming 2019 elections.

PoliticsNGR gathered that while speaking to members of his Coalition for Nigeria movement(CNM), Obasanjo pointed out that God who helped Nigeria against the government of late Sani Abacha will come to Nigeria's aid in 2019. He said;

"Some people believe that those that are in position, whether they are doing well or not, they must continue to be there. But when we say they must not only be there, they will want to fight back. They will hold many things to wreak havoc, but everybody must be prepared. It will not be easy to wrest powers from them. If you think it will be easy to liberate Nigeria, you are deceiving yourself.

But the God that did it yesterday will do it again today. Remember a particular leader who had a desire to transmit from military uniform to elected president. We had a situation that we had five political parties and the five parties nominated one person as candidate for presidency. If only his nuclear family had voted for him, he would have won.

But our God is wonderful. God laughed. Now, God is laughing. When the time came, God revealed that He’s God. He is the omnipotent, omnipresent and eternal, who can do all things and who can make all things possible. But if we are leaving things to God, we have to do our own side.

How 12-year-old girl stopped train from killing over 300 people in Zimbabwe
User Avatar Forum: Other Stories

A 13-year-old girl has been rewarded by the National Railways of Zimbabwe (NRZ) for averting a train disaster that could have killed at least 300 people when she was only 12.

Nozipho Sibanda, a form one pupil of Entumbane High School in Zimbabwe, saw a broken railway line in Sawmills last September, an hour before a Bulawayo-bound train from Victoria falls was set to pass. The girl rushed to inform the station manager at Sawmills railway station and station manager stopped the train that was due to pass on that track within an hour. At the time, she was a 12-year-old Grade Seven pupil at Sawmills Primary School.

In appreciation of her life-saving act, last Friday the NRZ went to her school and committed to pay her school fees until she completes secondary school. The NRZ also guaranteed her a place at its training school in Bulawayo should she wish to be enrolled there.

NRZ Regional Marketing Manager Mr Joseph Temai commended Nozipho for her sense of responsibility.

He said:

Quote:She saved over 300 lives in a passenger train that was coming from Victoria Falls to Bulawayo. She did something that some adults may have failed to do. As part of our whistle blowers programme, we decided to give her a small token of appreciation as a gesture to show gratitude to her family and her school for cultivating such good habits in a child.
It was midweek in the morning and she was on her way to school. She noticed that part of the railway line was broken and she went to notify the station manager before going to school. It shows the kind of family and home that she was brought up in.

Mr Temai said property worth millions of dollars were saved and the lives of about 300 passengers were spared because of Nozipho's act.

He said:

Quote:She helped to save the Government’s and taxpayer’s money. Another person may not see the value of this as one may not see themselves as a beneficiary of railway services. When one considers that our food is transported via rail, our coal for electricity is transported via rail and other goods and services, it is important to note that we are all beneficiaries.

Herdsmen Attacks: What Buhari Is Doing About Killings – Minister, Jibrin
User Avatar Forum: Politics

Minister of State for Environment, Ibrahim Jibrin has said President Muhammadu Buhari was working hard towards ending the killings across the country.

Addressing journalists on Monday in Nassarawa State, Jibrin urged well-meaning Nigerians to work with the Buhari-led government towards ending the crisis between herdsmen and farmers.

Jibrin also cautioned Nigerians against unguarded utterances that would further escalate the crisis.

He said, “So, we call on the people in Nasarawa state and the entire country to be mindful of the language we use so that we don’t inflame what is already a bad situation.

“The issue of insecurity is not a one man show, it is something that is collective whether you are a political, religious or community leader, we have to come together to address this issue.

“Let’s continue to provide intelligence to the security agencies as no security agent can succeed without intelligence.

“I assure you that the federal government is determined, the President is determined to make sure that farmers/herdsmen clashes stopped.”

Kleptomaniac Brothers Arrested In Ogun Over Serial Theft Of Goats, Motorcycles
User Avatar Forum: Other Stories
Posted by: Edoman - 06-19-2018, 01:27 PM - No Replies

Operatives of the Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad, Abeokuta, Ogun State, have busted a syndicate whose stock in trade was to rob residents of their community in Ipokia of their goats and motorcycles.

Among the arrested miscreants were two brothers, of the same parents, Sunday Avoseh, 35 and Taye Avoseh, 25. even as the third Avoseh, Segun, who has been identified as the leader of the gang, has gone into hiding.

Also arrested were two other members of the gang, Abiodun Kodewu, 37 and Salau Ogedengbe, 32.

It was gathered that the gang always went in search of goats and motorcycles, and as specialists in the act, stole them and left no traces....

Their modus, according to the suspects, was that Segun, still at large, would call other members of the gang, take them in his car and on getting to where to operate, would open the four doors of the car and be on standby, while his boys would go on hunting.

"There were times we stole as many as ten", said Taye.

Ironically, the stolen motorcycles were ridden to the numerous creeks in the area and ferried in boats to the neighboring Benin Republic, where they sold them to their receivers.

During interrogation, Sunday said: "I have stolen just three okadas in my life. All I do was to sight them where they were parked and roll them away, without anyone knowing. For the goats, I have lost count of the number. The only time I was caught and taken to police station, my family members secured my bail. Most often, I sold the goats and sometimes slaughter and feasted with my family members".

However, luck ran out on them when recently, when Taye Avoseh went with Abiodun Kodewu to dispossess a man of his motorcycle, during which Kodewu was arrested.

In the course of police investigation, they were able the establish the various atrocities of thefts in Ipokia axis.

No fewer than ten motorcycles have, however, been recovered from them.

Kidnapper Who Killed Onose Onakpoma Arrested In A Forest (Photos)
User Avatar Forum: Other Stories
Posted by: Edoman - 06-19-2018, 01:23 PM - No Replies

Security operatives have apprehended a notorious kidnapper who together with his gang abducted a Delta lawmaker, Hon Onose Onakpoma on March 31, 2018 and hid him in a forest in Okurekpo, Ethiope East Local government area of Delta state - before shooting him to death inside the hideout (see HERE).

The notorious gang leader identified as Omote Eboh has been on the run despite the arrest and detention of his wife after leading a team to the scene in the thick forest to recover the remains of Hon Onokpoma on May 11, 2018.

Most of the perpetrators of the heinous crime have been apprehended including those who aided the escape of the leader, Omote Eboh

The team led by the Vigilantes Group of Nigeria, Okpara Inland - trailed Mr. Omote Eboh yesterday to the village in Benin, Edo state where he has been hiding and was captured like a goat.

The Omote Eboh, a kidnap-for-ransom network in the thick forest between Okurekpo and Okuekpagha boundary (Omue’ te’te) carried out a major robbery operation on 31st March, 2018 where they robbed over 20 people including Hon. Onose Onakpoma and there after kidnapped him and hauled him to the thick forest where he was promptly killed before the kidnappers called to pick up a ransom of N500,000.00 and thereafter vanished into the thin air with no trace of Hon. Onakpoma and a little or no trace of the Kidnappers.

Hon Onakpoma’s remains are in the Eku Baptist Government Hospital morgue while officials are preparing legal documents to release the body to the family.

The robbery| kidnap gang had carried out their robbery operation at Okorore near Eku on 31st March 2018 were they robbed over 15 people including a couple who were rushing their 8 years seriously sick son to the hospital at about 5.30am and despite the couple appeal to the robbers| Kidnappers to have mercy and compassion on them to release them to enable them rush their sick son to the Eku Baptist Government Hospital, the heartless gang refused and held them for over an hour until their son died there.

The Police Anti Kidnapping squad had to step up operations against the gang and worked tirelessly with Hon Evance Ivwurie, a the member representing Ethiope East State Constituency in the Delta State House of Assembly - who provided the courageous leadership.

Kaduna IGR rises to N2.7bn monthly
User Avatar Forum: Politics
Posted by: Edoman - 06-19-2018, 12:07 PM - No Replies

From Femi Oyelola Kaduna
The Executive Chairman, Kaduna State Internally Revenue Service (KDIRS) Mukhtar Ahmed, has said the state has increased its Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) from an average of N800 million a month in 2015 to between N2.7 billion and N3.0 billion monthly in 2018.
He disclosed this in an interview with the media in Kaduna yesterday.
According to him ,KDIRS generated N14.2 billion as Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) between January and end of May.
He added that the N14.2 billion generated in five months is far above N11.5 billion generated in the whole of 2015 and more than half of the N23 billion generated in 2016.
“Our target is to generate N4.0 billion a month and with the ongoing reform in tax administration and revenue collection in the state, I am very confident that we shall get there.
“Already we are around N3.0 billion and the ongoing integration of all 63 revenue generating agencies in the state via an electronic platform will take us there and beyond.”
He said that the revenue profile of the state has been on consistent increase since the reform in revenue collection, beginning with the tax law that established KDIRS in 2016 as the sole revenue collector in the state.
“The law among other things harmonised and abolished cash collection as well as automated all revenue collection in the state,” Ahmed said.
The chairman expressed confidence that the state would achieve the N42 billion set IGR target by December, following the impressive performance in the first five months.

Contrary to media reports, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has denied that he will be in the United States later in the month.

Reports recently said Abubakar would speak at a trade and investment gathering in Washington DC later this month.
The organisers listed him as number one amongst dozens of personalities they said had been invited to the event.
Governors NyesomWike and Ibrahim Dankwambo, Deputy Senate President Ike Ekweremadu and Trade and Investment Minister, OkechukwuElelamah, are amongst those also said to have been invited.
“There is no such invitation to the former vice president,” his spokesperson, Paul Ibe, said yesterday. “We are not aware of such invitation and we do not know how they managed to put his name on their list.”
An e-mail to the organisers seeking clarifications was not immediately returned yesterday afternoon.
The report that the former vice president would be visiting America for the event scheduled to hold between June 24-26 has seen some people drawing conclusions that the possible visa restrictions placed against him have been relaxed.
Abubakar was named in a contract scandal involving Nigerian and American officials in mid-2000s.
Williams Jefferson, a serving US federal lawmaker at the time, was arrested, prosecuted and sentenced to jail for his involvement in the fraud, which was largely about bribery, influence-peddling and contract inflation.
Despite claims that Abubakar was involved in the scandal, including a USSenate investigative committee report, the Nigerian politician continues to maintain his innocence.
The report and several other exhibits that led to the successful conviction of Jefferson, who was Abubakar’s political associate, are largely seen as the reason he cannot travel to that country.
Abubakar, who is a strong contender for the presidency in 2019, frequently travels to the United Arab Emirates and some Western countries.
He recently acknowledged that he has difficulties visiting the U.S, but said he should not be blamed for the dilemma.
He said he applied for U.S visa on past occasions, but was denied each time. He has rejected insinuations that his failure to enter the U.S could damage his political ambition, saying the Nigerian constitution does not require that a citizen must be able to enter the U.S to be eligible for elective office.
Moreover, he said some Nigerian leaders have been denied entry into the U.S in the past and later became president, including President Muhammadu Buhari whom he said was banned for 15 years.
Buhari has denied this claim, saying the former vice president should go and clear his name. The U.S Embassy in Abuja has refused to comment on the controversy for several years.

Buhari: I'm Not Ready To Meet nPDP Members
User Avatar Forum: Politics
Posted by: Edoman - 06-19-2018, 11:52 AM - No Replies

President Muhammadu Buhari said he is not ready to meet members of the Peoples Democratic Party (nPDP) bloc within the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

The president made his position known at a meeting with APC governors in the Aso Rock Presidential Villa in Abuja last week, Daily Trust learnt last night.

Members of the nPDP, who defected from the People’s Democratic Party before the 2015 general elections, had recently protested, among other things, what they called their marginalisation in the ruling APC.

Sources at last week’s meeting revealed that President Buhari insisted that the nPDP members’ grievances were for the party to settle and that he would not interfere.

The president was however said to have told the governors that the fence-mending move initiated by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo should continue.

One of the sources at the meeting said while some of the governors urged Buhari to ignore the nPDP members, others canvassed that Osinbajo should continue to discuss with them.

The president, the sources added, also asked the governors, as party leaders in their own right, to handle the issues and that if need be, the leadership of the party could wade in.

Buhari was quoted as telling the governors: “It is a party matter. I am not ready to sit down with any faction. If they have problems, they should go to the party.

“I will not interfere. Governors as party leaders in the states should deal with all issues. Where there is need, the party leadership can come in. I will not get involved.”

The nPDP members, led by Kawu Baraje, had on May 29 met behind closed doors with Osinbajo at the latter’s official residence, Akinola Aguda House, in the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

After that meeting, Baraje had told journalists that it was too early for his group to talk about leaving the APC.

Those present at the meeting included Senate President Bukola Saraki; Speaker of the House of Representatives Yakubu Dogara; Leader of the nPDP Baraje; Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso; former Governor of Adamawa State Murtala Nyako; a former leader of the PDP, Senator Barnabas Gemade; and former Governor of Gombe State Senator Danjuma Goje, among others.

But a fortnight ago, the nPDP had halted further talks with the Presidency which, they alleged, was not interested in the talks and might have been negotiating in bad faith.

The group alleged, among other things, that Senate President Bukola Saraki was being persecuted.

The nPDP also faulted by the decision of the APC leadership to ratify all the congresses from wards, local governments, states and zones where many of its members had complaints.

The group, in a statement by Baraje, had said the prevailing political environment in Nigeria was “fouled and toxic”.

The statement had partly read: “The public may recall that there have been ongoing talks between members of the former nPDP, the APC and the Presidency in recent days.

“Nigerians may further recall that a team from the former nPDP led by Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara and four others, were to meet with the Vice President, Prof Yemi Osinbajo today.

“However, while we are truly and earnestly committed to achieving reconciliation, harmony, truce and cohesion in the APC as we approach the 2019 general elections, it appears that the Presidency is not interested in the talks and that they may have been negotiating in bad faith.

“We were alarmed that immediately after our meeting with the Vice President last week, the Presidency misrepresented what transpired at the meeting by trying to blackmail some of the principal actors involved in the discussions in a national daily.

“Similarly, the leadership of the party (APC) went ahead to ratify all the Congresses from ward, local governments, states and zonal where many of our members have complaints, effectively presenting us with a fait accompli.”

In the statement, the nPDP had also picked holes in implication of the Senate President and Kwara State Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed in the April bank robbery in Offa.

“The persecution of our members, using state security apparatus, have continued unabated.

“We recognise the powers of the police to conduct criminal investigations but by rushing to the public with the issue even when they have unfettered access to the leadership of the National Assembly suggests an attempt to undermine, caricature and humiliate the institution of the legislature.”

Sources had earlier informed Daily Trust that the nPDP members may collectively dump the APC on June 23 - the day of its national convention - to make a big impact. The nPDP leader Baraje however said the group had not issued any official statement concerning that (quitting the APC).

ISIS Sneaking Jihadists Into Nigeria From Syria - The Sun UK
User Avatar Forum: Politics
Posted by: Edoman - 06-19-2018, 11:49 AM - No Replies

Quote:LEADERS of IS are sneaking battle-hardened jihadis from Syria into Nigeria to train terrorists there for possible attacks in Britain.

Fanatics from the West African state are also being sent to the Middle East for training in a chilling “exchange programme”.

Insiders fear strong links between Nigeria and the UK will make it easier for IS to send its killers here to bring more death and destruction.

Now more than 150 British troops are conducting counter-terror training with Nigerian forces in an attempt to stem the bloody tide — and stop IS taking hold in the region.

At one training mission in the northern city of Kaduna, a senior Nigerian Air Force commander revealed how his country’s jihadi groups were learning from IS after swearing allegiance to its black flag.

Group Captain Isaac Subi, 46, who has been fighting terrorism across Africa since 1991, said: “They come and train their fighters here and some of our insurgents too are granted access to their training in Yemen and Syria, acquiring those skills and they come back and teach others.

Their poisonous influence has already ended in horror attacks on British streets.

Fusilier Lee Rigby was stabbed to death in 2013 in London by Michael Adebolajo and Michael Adebowale, both of Nigerian descent.

It is feared IS will exploit regular flights between Lagos and London to export more evil to the UK.

Group Captain Subi said the lack of secure borders across Africa also makes it easy to spread the bloodshed.

He added: “There are hundreds of fighters. It’s a virus that spreads across our borders. Their action leaves trails of blood and tears and sorrow.”

Over the past four years, more than 20,000 people have been killed in Nigeria, mainly in the north east where a population of 900,000 is now dominated by up to 3,000 terrorists.

Another two million have fled the bloodshed. Captured men are made to fight for the fanatics and seized women are forced into marriages.

But one terror tactic unique to Nigeria is the barbaric use of children as young as five to carry out suicide bomb attacks.

Brigadier Charles Calder, Britain’s defence adviser in Nigerian capital Abuja, said of the IS threat there: “In time, unchecked it could present a threat to both UK interests and conceivably the UK mainland.”

Brig Calder said sending small, hand-picked teams out to military training hubs across the country was the best way to prevent Nigeria collapsing.

Brits have so far trained 35,000 military personnel there and commanders say these are now performing better on the frontline.

The 2014 abduction of hundreds of schoolgirls in Nigeria by terror group Boko Haram sparked an upsurge in UK military involvement there.

In 2016, a faction split from Boko Haram, swore allegiance to IS and rebranded itself Islamic State in West Africa.

“Re-Elect Buhari And Regret” – APC Chieftain tells Nigerians
User Avatar Forum: Politics

“Re-Elect Buhari And Regret” – APC Chieftain tells Nigerians “Re-Elect Buhari And Regret” – APC Chieftain tells Nigerians June 19, 2018 Suspended Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Comrade Timi Frank, has told President Muhammadu Buhari that Nigerians may end up in regret and despair for voting him into office. Frank said this in an open letter he addressed to the President. In the letter, the former mouth piece of the ruling party said the president must do more in obeying the rule of law and stop attacking those he sees as opposition to Gus administration. Part of Frank’s letter entitled ‘June 12 and the Burden of good governance’ reads, Mr. President, having been a lone voice in criticizing the activities of your administration, despite being a member of the APC, many will wonder what the true intent of this Open Letter may convey, but be rest assured sir, that only those who mean well for this country will speak up when wrong is being painted as right. “The CHANGE mantra upon which this administration was voted into power massively by Nigerians, irrespective of ethnic, religious and social affiliations, is fast eroding away and I’m afraid, sir, that if nothing is done to Right the Wrong, then the Hopes and Aspirations which had ushered in a brighter tomorrow will end up in Regret and Despair. “That I have decided to speak up against the current ills in the system attest to the fact that, it is only when people speak up that TrueChange will eventually occur. The resilience and belief in the June 12 Struggle attest to the fact that those who fought for democracy in Nigeria believed in the truest meaning of democracy in all its ramifications. “A country where the RULE OF LAW, FREEDOM OF SPEECH AND ASSOCIATION, UPHOLDING THE RIGHTSOF EVERY CITIZEN AND ABOVE ALL RESPECT FOR FUNDAMENTAL HUMAN RIGHTS was and is the very pillar upon which Chief MKO ABIOLA and several others paid the ultimate price with their lives. “Anything short of this will amount to MILITOCRACY or DICTATORSHIP as itwere. The lack of adherence to these social rights, I must admit, are very prevalent in this administration and seems to be growing larger by the day. “These ills are reminiscent of and a sad reminder of the Junta days, with many regretting their actions of voting the APC into power. It will be pertinent, Mr. President sir, to proceed on a personal fact finding mission to the Nigerian streets, irrespective of bias, to find out the true reflections and opinions of Nigerians toward your administration.”

BRT New Buses Are Coming In Batches To Lagos Bus-Stops
User Avatar Forum: Other Stories
Posted by: Edoman - 06-19-2018, 11:16 AM - No Replies

It was an iconic sight to behold as new buses adorned some of the recently constructed Bus Terminals in Lagos for the take-off of the Bus Reform Initiative of the State Government designed to bequeath a world-class transportation system and enhance connectivity across the State.

Apart from adding to the aesthetics of the State with the impressive blue and white colour, the new environmentally-friendly high capacity buses, which are now arriving the State in batches, were also equipped with modern facilities to bring about comfort and seamless travelling experience along the dedicated routes.

Under the Bus Reform Initiative, 5,000 new buses are expected to be added to the public transport system, while other components of the scheme such as modern bus terminals, bus depots, bus stops and segregated laybys are already springing up in strategic locations across the State. This is aside from the Intelligent Transport System mechanism of the initiative which will aid Lagosians to plan their journeys.

Also, an arrangement is also being firmed up as part of the short-term plan for the buses to be assembled in Lagos, which would, in turn, create jobs for the people, and as well serve to properly maintain the buses.

Giving rationale behind the initiative, the State Governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode said the new buses and terminals were conceived to redefine public transportation in the State with the view to make the State globally competitive.

"Like we have said, we are doing bus terminals to actually improve on the management of transportation in the city. Some people would have noticed that we are beginning to receive some of our new buses. We have actually ordered 820 buses and we believe that by end of September, the 820 buses should be in Lagos.

"The intention is not to drive away Danfo buses (Commercial Buses). Buses in Lagos right now are never enough. Government is intending to inject 5,000 but we do not intend to operate them and so whoever is going to operate the buses would recruit drivers and personnel to work on those buses.

"So, if somebody upgrades from Danfo to bus, that is more job for our people. We, as government, are not the ones to drive the buses but what we are doing is to create an avenue for people to get employed and to also create greater aesthetics for the city," Governor Ambode explained.

According to him, if Lagos must attract investors and tourists, there has to be a globally compliant mode of transportation which he said necessitated the need for reforms in the sector.

"Another point is that if we say we want to be globally competitive and we want to attract investors and tourists to Lagos, we have to be globally compliant with the way we move people around.

"So, we believe strongly that as we proceed, we will be introducing more facilities on our waterways, roads and our walkways to make life more comfortable for our people," the Governor said.

  Fuel Subsidy Hits N2.4billion Daily
User Avatar Forum: Oil/Gas
Posted by: Edoman - 06-19-2018, 11:00 AM - No Replies

Quote:Nigeria may be losing the gains of increases in the international oil prices as the Federal Government subsidy on fuel has risen to N2.4 billion daily in May, from N774 million in March, 2018, also as a result of the high price of crude oil in the international market.

Unlike in March, this year, when the price of crude oil hovered at $66 per barrel, it had hovered between $75 and $80 per barrel since last month, thus pushing up landing cost of the refined product in the domestic markets for finished product importers like Nigeria.

In a report obtained by Vanguard, the Petroleum Products Pricing Regulatory Agency, PPPRA, stated that without the government subsidy, the price of petrol could have been as high as N205 per litre in the domestic market.

According to PPPRA, the price of the commodity appreciated by 8.47 per cent from N189 per litre recorded in April 25, 2018 to N205 per litre as at May 16, 2018.

The PPPRA report disclosed that during the week under reference, between May 11 and May 16, 2018, oil prices continued to soar, stating that the average price for Brent Dated was $77.92 per barrel; Nigeria’s Bonny Light was $78.08 while West Texas Intermediate, WTI, was $60.27 per barrel.

Price of petrol is still fixed at a maximum of N145 per litre, meaning that the NNPC is currently paying N60 as under recovery for a litre of the commodity.

Speaking with Vanguard on this issue, the Group General Manager, Group Public Affairs Division of the NNPC, Mr. Ndu Ughamadu said: “The explanation is simple. The higher the price of crude oil the higher the price of petroleum products in the international market. It should also be noted that this has also impacted on the landing cost, and by extension our under recovery.”

In a related development findings by Vanguard in Ogun state and other border communities showed that the situation is worsened by smuggling, as NNPC is now forced to subsidize the product for neighboring countries.

Group Managing Director of the NNPC, Dr Maikanti Baru who led top management team of the corporation to visit Comptroller-General of Nigeria Customs Service, Col. Hameed Ali (retd), recently, had blamed the increase in fuel consumption on massive smuggling of petroleum products to neighbouring countries.

Baru had also raised an alarm on the proliferation of fuel stations in communities with international land and coastal borders across the country, insisting that the development had energized unprecedented cross-border smuggling of petrol to neighbouring countries, making it difficult to sanitise the fuel supply and distribution matrix in the country.

He had revealed that detailed study conducted by the NNPC indicated strong correlation between the presence of the frontier stations and the activities of fuel smuggling syndicates.

Providing a detailed presentation of the findings, the NNPC boss had noted that 16 states, having among them 61 local government areas with border communities, account for 2,201 registered fuel stations.

He had said: “NNPC is concerned that continued cross-border smuggling of petrol will deny Nigerians the benefit of the Federal Government’s benevolence of keeping a fix retail price of N145 per litre, despite the increase in PMS open market price above N171 per litre.” Responding, Customs’ Comptroller-General had said the service would work with the NNPC to stem the tide of cross-border smuggling of petroleum products, noting that all hands must be on deck to ensure the economic survival of the country.

Why kogi state remains unviable and underdeveloped?

Why Salaries are not paid and projects were uncompleted?

Kogi State was the most affected state where past and present leaders practice these iniquitous attitudes of ” self needs satisfaction”.
No wonder the state remains unenviable and perpetually under-developed, due the disposition and diversion of public funds for personal use.

[Image: WhatsApp-Image-2018-06-17-at-7.55.31-PM-1-300x298.jpeg] [Image: WhatsApp-Image-2018-06-17-at-7.55.28-PM-1-300x225.jpeg] [Image: WhatsApp-Image-2018-06-17-at-7.55.29-PM-...0x247.jpeg] [Image: WhatsApp-Image-2018-06-17-at-7.55.29-PM-2-300x169.jpeg] [Image: WhatsApp-Image-2018-06-17-at-7.55.58-PM-1-300x223.jpeg] [Image: WhatsApp-Image-2018-06-17-at-7.55.59-PM-1-300x225.jpeg] [Image: WhatsApp-Image-2018-06-17-at-7.55.56-PM-300x300.jpeg] [Image: WhatsApp-Image-2018-06-17-at-7.55.57-PM-1.jpeg]

A comprehensive investigations carried out by an anonymous who pleaded for his name to not be mentioned, has revealed some personal properties acquired by the incumbent governor of kogi state, which could be the reason of the stunted growth we are experiencing in the state today.

This means that funds were diverted for personal projects, which exposed the state to continuous financial crisis, left her in the state of discombobulation. Which is the main reason why salaries are not paid and state projects were uncompleted.

I sincerely wish to remain silence but for the fact that these nefarious injustices continue in a lackadaisical manner and somebody draw my attention to the salary issues that refused to die, that continue to live among our people, yet imposes pains and agonies on the lives of our people. Aggravated my anger to revealed this unhealthy practice by our accidental governor.

Today we presents to you numerous fleet of exotic cars and magnificent multi-million Naira mansion acquired by Govt. Bello amidst perpetual hunger and abject poverty in the state.

Now you know why salaries are not paid, the state remains unviable, under-developed and projects were uncompleted.

RHAPSODY OF REALITIES

TUESDAY, 19TH JUNE.

THE WORD ON YOUR LIPS.

For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation (Romans 10:10).
It’s not enough to know God’s Word as it’s contained in the written pages of the Bible; you have to release power through speaking! That’s how it works! With the Word on your lips, you’ll live over and above all limitations and circumstances.

Voicing your faith is a fundamental spiritual principle, without which even the gift and blessing of salvation can’t be received or activated. Notice the opening verse again: “For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation” (Romans 10:10).
The salvation package is delivered upon satisfying these two conditions: Believing and confessing the Lordship of Jesus. To believe isn’t enough; there must be the corresponding verbal communication or affirmation of your faith.

When you speak the Word, what you’re doing is releasing the power of God into action on your behalf. For example, God instructed Joshua, “This book of the law SHALL NOT DEPART OUT OF THY MOUTH; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success” (Joshua 1:8).

The Hebrew rendering of the word “meditate” is “hagah,” which means to ponder, imagine, murmur, mutter, speak, study, talk, utter, or roar. It’s not just talking about you thinking the Word only, it means you ought to voice out the Word.

Notice that the instruction to Joshua doesn’t make any mention of us speaking to anyone. So, it makes no difference whether or not anyone is listening to you, you just keep talking the Word. When matters arise, use the Word. Speak the Word and change things. The Word of God in your mouth is God talking.

PRAYER

Dear Father, thank you for faith is stirred in my spirit to change my world and transform circumstances for your glory. I believe in the unsearchable riches of Christ and all He’s done for me, and therefore affirm that I walk in righteousness, victory, health, peace, progress and prosperity all my days, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.

FURTHER STUDY:

Mark 11:23 For verily I say unto you, That whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith.

Proverbs 15:23 A man hath joy by the answer of his mouth: and a word [spoken] in due season, how good [is it]!

Romans 10:6-9 But the righteousness which is of faith speaketh on this wise, Say not in thine heart, Who shall ascend into heaven? (that is, to bring Christ down [from above]Smile 7 Or, Who shall descend into the deep? (that is, to bring up Christ again from the dead.) 8 But what saith it? The word is nigh thee, [even] in thy mouth, and in thy heart: that is, the word of faith, which we preach; 9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.

#AFFIRMATIONTRAIN

19TH JUNE.

I affirm that I am the workmanship of God! I am created in the image, and in the likeness of God; for beauty and for glory! I am God’s peculiar treasure and pearl of great price, fashioned for good works; I show forth His wonderful deeds and display His virtues and perfections today.

I am an offspring of the Word; therefore, I am totally yielded to the Word. At all times, my heart is open to the influence of the infallible principles of success, victory, health, prosperity, and greatness revealed in God’s Word! Thus, my way is prosperous, and I am triumphant always! My life is for the glory of God, and I am making progress from glory to glory because Christ lives in me. I am prosperous, and I walk in divine health! Daily, I prevail with, and by, the Word! Hallelujah!

Everything that concerns me is perfected by the Lord! As I study the Word of God, His perfect will are unveiled to my spirit; wisdom comes to me, propelling me to act accordingly. My spirit is energized and sensitized to know God’s plan, purpose, and direction for me; and I walk in the path of divine destiny, fulfilling God’s perfect will for me. Blessed be God. Hallelujah!

3 BANKS RAKED IN N656 BILLION FROM FEES, COMMISSION INCOME IN 2017

                          [img=288x0]https://i0.wp.com/s3-eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/leadersandco/wp-content/uploads/2016/09/15025638/Nigerian-Stock-Exchange.jpg?resize=696%2C522&ssl=1[/img]
Thirteen commercial banks quoted on the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) raked in N655.669 billion from fees and commission income last year, figures compiled by Akelicious from the full year 2017 audited results have shown.

The amount realised by the banks represented an increase by 11 per cent, compared with the N591.987 billion they realised in 2016.

Analysts have predicted that the financial institutions would be aggressive in fees and commission income as they continue to contend with the reduced yields on treasury bills.

The fees and commission income by the banks were derived from account maintenance fees, fees from electronic banking channels, ATM charges, letters of credit commission, remittances fees, card-based fees, fees from brokerage commission, financial advisory fees, among others.

The results reviewed by Akelicious were those of Zenith Bank Plc, Guaranty Trust Bank (GTBank) Plc, United Bank for Africa (UBA) Plc, FBN Holdings Plc, Access Bank, Fidelity Bank, Stanbic IBTC, Sterling Bank, First City Monument Bank (FCMB), Ecobank, Wema Bank, Union Bank and Diamond Bank.

According to findings, while Ecobank Transnational Incorporated (ETI), because of its spread in the continent, recorded the highest fees and commission of N143.799 billion in 2017, up from the N124.759 billion it made the previous year, it was followed by Zenith Bank Plc, which posted fees and commission income of N90.143 billion in the year under review, up from the N68.444 billion the previous year.

Also, UBA which posted fees and commission income of N82.937 billion in the review year, higher than the N73.199 billion the bank realised in 2016, just as FBN Holdings posted fees and commission income of N74.453 billion in the review year, higher than the N71.360 billion recorded the previous year; while Access Bank Plc garnered N56.674 billion as fees in 2017, higher than the N55.440 it recorded in 2016.

In the same vein, while Stanbic IBTC reported net fees and commission of N59.089 billion in 2017, up from N52.154 billion the previous year; GTBank got N42.922 billion as fees and commission income in 2017, up from the N39.403 billion it attained in 2016; and Diamond Bank also made N37.068 billion in the review year, compared with the N41.432 billion it got the previous year.

Similarly, whereas FCMB reported fees and commission income of N21.630 billion, higher than N17.683 billion in 2016; Fidelity Bank posted N18.229 billion fees and commission income in the review year, as against the N20.557 billion it recorded in 2016; Sterling Bank’s results also showed an improved fees and commission income of N12.876 billion in 2017, higher than N10.788 billion the previous year.

Also, Union Bank’s results showed fees and commission income of N10.2017 billion was recorded by the bank in 2017, as against the N10.577 billion it made in 2016; while Wema Bank posted fees and commission income of N5.642 billion in 2017, from N6.191 billion the previous year.

Fitch Ratings had stated that Nigerian banks might find it difficult to sustain their profitability this year, given the decline in net treasury bill issuance by the federal government.

It pointed out that Nigerian banks were highly reliant on net interest income to remain profitable, saying treasury bills was an important source of the banks’ profitability in 2017.

In addition, Fitch stated that its 2018 rating outlook for the Nigerian banking sector was negative, forecasting that some tier two banks would struggle to remain profitable this year.

“We expect falling treasury bill yields and lower issuance to put pressure on Nigerian banks’ profitability in 2018,” it said.

Also, Moody’s Investors Service in its latest outlook on Nigerian banks also noted that the declining yields on government securities would dampen banks’ core earnings.

INEC Registering Foreigners From Niger To Vote In 2019 - Southern,m'belt Leaders
User Avatar Forum: Politics
Posted by: Edoman - 06-18-2018, 04:12 PM - No Replies

@POLITICSNGR

The Southern and Middle Belt Leaders' Forum has claimed that the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has embarked on illegal registration of foreigners, mostly from Niger Republic, in order to manipulate the outcome of the 2019 elections.

The Forum raised alarm via a communique issued to Journalists on Sunday, alleging that the foreigners could be the reason why the government was in a haste to construct a rail from Kano, through Dambatta, Kazaure, Daura, Mashi, Katsina, Jibia and terminate in Maradi in the Niger Republic.

The communiqué titled, “Our case against 2019 elections preparations” was signed by Yinka Odumakin (South-West); Senator Bassey Henshaw (South-South); Prof. Chigozie Ogbu (South-East) and Dr Isuwa Dogo ( Middle Belt).

They expressed concern over the 2019 elections and restated their lack of confidence in the INEC chairman “whose conduct over the scandal of underage voters in Kano has shown a gross betrayal of public trust.”

The communique read; “Equally worrisome is the intelligence report at our disposal that a large number of mercenary voters have been registered from neighbouring countries especially from Niger Republic under the continuous voter registration which could have been one of the reasons why the Federal Government is in a haste to construct a rail from Kano, through Dambatta, Kazaure, Daura, Mashi, Katsina, Jibia and terminate in Maradi, Niger Republic. Money has been appropriated for this in the 2018 budget.”

“Five clear months after the promise and prompt conclusion of the assignment by the team he set up, the INEC chairman has refused to release the report which would necessarily have necessitated a nationwide interrogation of the voter registry.

“Information at our disposal is that the report of the committee is so damning and that is the reason why he is doing a macabre dance on it. How on earth can we trust a man doing such over an issue of public knowledge to be fair on matters relating to free and fair elections that would not be in the public glare?

“We demand the immediate release of the INEC report on the Kano underage voter’s scandal and interrogation of the voter registry by a judicial commission with representatives from international and local elections observers to check cases of underage voters and foreign mercenaries before the 2019 elections. This is very necessary as INEC cannot be a judge in its own case.”

A former lecturer with the Kwara State University, Malete, Dr. Oluremi Osunlola, has reportedly committed suicide.
According to Punch Newspaper reports, the late Osunlola was a Lecturer 1 in the Department of Crop Production, College of Agriculture of the institution.
It was gathered on Friday that his wife had died about three months ago and that KWASU management had written to notify him of his conversion from his full time appointment to a contract appointment.

Sources quoted by the Newspaper, said after the conversion, the deceased started exhibiting strange behaviour. They also said an unnamed colleague of his even pledged to offer him another job at Landmark University, Omu-Aran.

Osunlola was said to have refused to submit his resume to his colleague who was willing to assist him get a new job.

The development, it was learnt, made some people to suspect why he rejected the assistance, while insinuation was rife that his doctorate certificate may not be genuine.
Sources said Osunlola was depressed after getting his full time appointment converted to a contract status.
He was said to have been taken by one of his friends to an unnamed cleric who counselled him. The sources added that after the counseling, his friend escorted him to his family at their residence in Ibadan, Oyo State capital.
His family, it was learnt, was surprised when he was still locked up in his room long after daybreak. The worried family members were said to have forced the door open after knocking repeatedly without any response. They were shocked to notice that he had committed suicide. The family
members were said to have been devastated over the tragedy.
The Director, Public Relations, KWASU, Dr. Isiaka Aliagan confirmed Osunlola’s death.
He said, “The Management of KWASU, Malete, would like to clarify that
the late Dr. Oluremi Solomon Osunlola, was a Lecturer 1 in the Department of Crop Production, College of Agriculture. He joined the services of the institution on a full-time appointment in 2010.
“However, during staff verification, it was discovered that the late Osunlola had already retired from the Federal Ministry of Agriculture, Kwara Office, before taking up a full-time appointment with KWASU.
“Despite the fact that the deceased violated the rule of his engagement, the university, in August, 2017, converted his appointment
to contract, on compassionate grounds. This is all we can say about the late Osunlola.”
It could be recalled that a hunter in Idera community in Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara State, identified simply as Lanre had reportedly shot himself to death less than a month ago.
Also a driver, Mr. Biodun Bashir, popularly called ‘Legal,’ and who was said to be a staff of Universal Basic Education Commission at Oyun Local Government in Kwara State, had on October 28, also committed suicide.
The incident happened last year 2017.

TCN Begins Nationwide Load-shedding As Power Generation Drops By 1087MW
User Avatar Forum: Retired Forums. Please Make Your Post Within The 3 Forums In General Discussion
Posted by: Edoman - 06-18-2018, 02:07 PM - No Replies

THE Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has begun nationwide load-shedding due to rupturing of the gas pipeline at the weekend.
This has led to a drop in power generation to 1087.6MW.
According to a statement by the General Manager, Public Affairs, TCN, Mrs. Ndidi Mbah, the TCN stated that as a result of gas pipeline rupture on the 15th of June, 2018, as well as technical issues at the Shell gas wells on the 16th of June, there has been a sharp drop in generation into the grid by a total of 1,087.6MW, resulting in load-shedding nationwide, necessary to maintain stability of the grid.
Due to the NGC pipeline incident, TCN said that six thermal power generating stations are currently unable to generate electricity and have therefore been shut down.
The affected power stations include the Ihovbor, Azura, Omotosho gas, Geregu gas, Olorunsogo gas, Sapele and the Egbin Power Station which has managed to generate 60MW only on each of its units, losing a total of 211MW.
Also, Afam VI power station was shut down so that Shell Oil Company can resolve its gas well issues to enable it to commence gas supply to Afam VI power station.
According to Mrs Mbah, with a total loss of 1,087.6MW into the grid, the transmission system has become quite fragile and that TCN is working hard to avert a collapse of the system, by engaging in load-shedding.
Load-shedding, she explained, is to ensure that available generation is commensurate with what is allocated to discos nationwide, to create a balance and avert grid instability.

The release further noted that NGC is making efforts to ensure that the gas pipeline issues are resolved in order to restore normal gas supply to the affected power generating stations, to enable them to generate into the grid.
Meanwhile, Shell has resolved its gas well issue this morning and gas supply partially restored to Afam VI.
TCN noted that there has been no collapse of the grid as has been reported.
Meanwhile, the company appealed for understanding and assured that its engineers are working hard to continue to maintain the stability of the grid, pending completion of repairs of the gas pipeline by NGC and restoration of full gas supply to the affected generating stations.

Founder of the Movement for the Actualization of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB), Chief Ralph Uwazuruike, has been sentenced to one month in prison by a High Court in Owerri, the Imo State capital.

The court order, which was served to the police last Thursday, signed by J.C. Okoro Esq. and dated June 6, 2018, indicates that Uwazuruike will be in prison custody for one month for contempt of court.

News Telegraph reported that upon reading through the Motion On Notice filed on July 6, 2017, praying for an order of court to commit the plaintiff in the substantive suit, Uwazuruike, to prison for disobeying the order of court made on Wednesday, April 2, 2014 and after due consideration of the unchallenged oral evidence of the 1st defendant, Chigozie Iheama and exhibits tendered in the contempt proceedings, the presiding judge, Justice Kemakolam Ojiako, ruled that:

“The plaintiff, Chief Ralph Uwazuruike, is hereby found guilty of contempt to the said order of court made on April 2, 2014.

“That the plaintiff, Chief Ralph Uwazuruike, is hereby sentenced to prison custody and shall be so detained for a period of one month from the date of his commitment to prison.”

Uwazuruike, his agents and proxies have also been restrained from entering into the said land subject matter until the suit is determined. This judgement is coming after Uwazuruike dragged Iheama to court in 2013 over a land transaction issue in suit No. HOW/265/2013. According to Iheama, from 2013 to 2017 that the case was on, Uwazuruike had refused to appear in court in a matter he is the plaintiff.

However before the matter was transferred to the present court, the former judge, Justice Florence Duruoha Igwe, was hearing contempt proceedings against Uwazuruike for defying the orders of court for parties to maintain status quo and commencing building on the disputed land. Iheama alleged that plots by the MASSOB leader to frustrate justice, did not stop when the matter was transferred to the court of Justice Kemakolam Ojiako.

“Consequent order of the court to seal the property by chaining and padlocking the gates was subverted by Uwazuruike who instead removed the gate and sealed up the area with a block wall, making it impossible for court officials to enforce the order,” he said.

On his own part, Uwazuruike had, however, argued that he was not under obligation to be in court as the case was a civil matter. But Iheama differed, saying that the case at hand was the contempt proceedings and not the substantive suit.

While Justice Ojiako noted in his ruling that “the substantive proceeding is adjourned to the July 10, 2018, to await the outcome of the Motion for Stay of proceedings,” counsel to the MASSOB leader, Emma Chukwuka, said that hearing on the appealed suit comes up on October 2, 2018.

Ndubuisi Nsuka, who was arrested alongside two other pickpockets members of his gang while attempting to steal from a policeman, is now begging the Zone 2 Police Command, Onikan, Lagos, where the police officer is attached to for forgiveness.

The 28-year-old Imo State indigene and his accomplices – Saheed Shittu and Usman Abubakar – belonged to a syndicate, which specialised in using a tricycle to dispossess commuters of their valuables. Punch gathered that while Abubakar rode the tricycle, Nsuka and Shittu allegedly pretended to be passengers and stole from their victims.

However their arrest came on Tuesday, after they attempted to rob a policeman. Confirming the arrest of the pickpockets, the Deputy Police Public Relations Officer, Zone 2 Police Command, DSP Dayo Ojekunle, said the suspects would be arraigned at the end of investigations.

He said, “One of our officers, who was coming to the office on Tuesday, boarded their tricycle. He was about to enter the tricycle when some people cautioned him. They told him that the men were notorious for stealing money and phones from passengers. He, however, boarded the tricycle.“When they wanted to steal from him, he did not struggle with them and he did not reveal his identity because he was in mufti. .

“After about five minutes ride, the tricycle approached the Zone 2 command headquaters. He stopped them and asked some officers at the command to arrest them. The rider of the tricycle escaped, but the other two were arrested. .

“During interrogation, they initially pretended that they did not know each other. We, however, discovered that both of them had phones. We dialled the number of one of them on the other person’s phone and it brought out his accomplice name. We later found a smart phone, earlier stolen that day, in the boxer shorts of one of them.”

It was learnt that the suspects gave the police information that led to the arrest of the rider.

Makarfi Declares Presidential Bid, Battles Atiku For PDP Ticket
User Avatar Forum: Retired Forums. Please Make Your Post Within The 3 Forums In General Discussion
Posted by: Edoman - 06-18-2018, 01:54 PM - No Replies

@NAIRATREND

A former Governor of Kaduna State and immediate past Caretaker Committee Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Senator Ahmed Makarfi, has joined the race to contest the nation’s presidency in 2019.

The two-term-senator said at a press briefing in Kaduna on Sunday that after wide consultations with party men and women as well as other major stakeholders, he had decided to seek the party’s nomination to contest the poll.

According to Makarfi, he is now ready to pick the PDP nomination form ahead of the 2019 presidential election.

He explained that after the consultations, the result was quite positive and encouraging and that it was fair enough for him to come out and join other “capable party men and women” to seek the party’s nomination for the 2019 presidential election.

Makarfi will battle a former Vice President and presidential hopeful of the Peoples Democratic Party, Atiku Abubakar, who had recently appointed a former governor of Ogun State, Otunba Gbenga Daniel, the Director-General of his 2019 presidential campaign.

Though he had yet to intimate his party through writing, he added that “one has to come to the decision to seek the nomination before you even seek formally.”

He said, “I have not written to the party but who do you consult with? It is the same party men and women that you consult informally.

“At this stage, it is to seek the party’s nomination. The successful nominee will become the candidate that will stand for the election.

“But first thing first. If one’s party does not put one forward, one can’t say he is contesting the presidency yet. At this stage, I have come to the conclusion that it is okay, based on the consultations that I have had.”

“I have been consulting across the country since I left as the chairman of the party. It’s just consultations and not an endorsement. But it gives you an opportunity to feel the pulse and it will tell whether to go forward or not to go forward.

“The consultations have been quite positive and I believe it is fair enough to come to the conclusion that one should join other equally capable party men and women who have shown interest in seeking the party’s nomination for the 2019 presidential election.”

Makarfi also noted that he had all it took to lead Nigerians to the promise land and thanked the All Progressives Congress for campaigning for the PDP through “bad governance.”

“We must also thank the APC for working for us because they have been working for us. They have refused to govern well, they have been fighting each other,” he said.

He added that anybody that could manage Kaduna State, which he described as ‘mini Nigeria’, could as well govern the country.

He said, “For me, I have known governance for some time at the state level. I served Kaduna for three years as commissioner for finance and economic planning. I came in from the private sector.

“I have private sector experience, especially banking. I governed this complex state for eight years. I have legislative experience, having been in the Senate for a two-term of eight years.

“I got a bonanza, when the party leadership fell on my laps, to know about managing a political party. If you cannot manage your party, even if you are elected, you will have problems governing.”

“If you cannot manage a complex society such as Kaduna State, which is a mini Nigeria, you cannot manage Nigeria,” the former governor added.

When asked if he would quit the party should he fail to realise his ambition on the platform of the PDP, the former governor said he would support whoever emerged as the candidate of the party among Atiku, a former Cross River State Governor, Donald Duke; a former Jigawa Governor, Sule Lamido; and a host of others.

In an apparent reference to the nPDP members in APC, the former governor called on them to come back home, noting that it was obvious that most of them were no longer needed in the ruling party.

“The question before them is where will they go to? The overwhelming majority of them no longer have room in that party. If you stay, what are they staying for?,” Makarfi queried.

Shehu Sani To Contest Against El-Rufai In Kaduna Governorship Election
User Avatar Forum: Retired Forums. Please Make Your Post Within The 3 Forums In General Discussion
Posted by: Edoman - 06-18-2018, 01:53 PM - No Replies

The Senator representing Kaduna Central Senatorial District in the red chamber, Shehu Sani, who addressed journalists who paid him Sallah homage in Kaduna, said if solutions to the identified challenges in the APC are not taken care of in the coming weeks, there will be no going back on their decision to leave the party for good.

Senator Shehu Sani also disclosed that the APC, as it is, today, stands on a foundation of injustice against its members, just as he reiterated that the party has failed to live up to its promises and pledges of a transparent internal democracy.

The Senator also said he will be contesting the governorship of the state, unless the Kaduna political stakeholders, which he is a member, decide otherwise.

“We condemned the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the past for not being fair and just to its members, but the APC has found itself in similar, if not worst situation, as at today.”

“There is a Kaduna political stakeholders, made up of former governors, lawmakers and various party chieftains, and, as a team player, I am a member. I am going to contest the governor of Kaduna State, but, if the stakeholders insist on me going back to the senate, I will have no objection, whatsoever.

“Nigerians are now more resolved and conscious to vote for people of integrity who will work for them, hence, I have the confidence of winning my election in whatever party I contest, because people will vote individuals based on merit, and not party, in the 2019 general elections.

“As it is today, over 25 registered political parties have come to us to express solidarity and support, and I can confirm to you that opposition from Kaduna State will come under an alliance of forces in the coming elections.

“ I want to make it clear that should I contest and become the governor of Kaduna State, I will open the government house to the masses" he said.

The Sun reported that Senator Shehu Sani who expressed optimism for a peaceful and transparent election in 2019, called on people to remain peaceful and work together to bring an end to violence, stressing that he has no grudges against anybody except political differences.

Arm Robbers Rape Corper In Bayelsa
User Avatar Forum: NYSC

A female corps member deployed to Bayelsa State for her one-year mandatory service, is now under intensive care as Doctors are battling to save her life following her ordeal in the hands of robbers.

It was gathered that after the armed robbers overpowered the neighbourhood vigilantes who are usually armed with only sticks and machetes, they invaded the ‘Corpers Lodge’ at Yenizue Gene, a suburb of Yenagoa, about 3a.m. yesterday and the corps member was reportedly assaulted and raped by a 15-man gang of robbers.

According to a resident of the community, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, the hoodlums reportedly went to the NYSC Corpers Lodge where they forcibly took away a female corps member and she was repeatedly raped by the suspects who took her in turns.

News Telegraph reported that local sources said though the police were alerted, there was little they could do because the area had been thrown into darkness by the Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company (PHEDC). A vigilante, who gave his name simply as Tonye, said the security men were afraid of running into an ambush.

The state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Asinim Butswat, who was contacted by newsmen however said he had not got a clear information about the incident.

Few months ago, suspected members of a cult also attacked a Corpers’ Lodge at Angalabiri community of Sagbama Local Government Area of Bayelsa State, severing the hand of a Corps member.

The Corps Member, identified as Luntis Julius from Taraba State was machete with cutlass on his left hand by the suspected hoodlums. Also stolen from the Corpers’ Lodge were a Laptop and two mobile phones. It was learnt that the invasion by the criminals, which happened at about 2.30am caused panic among Corps members serving in the Sagbama Local Government Area.
