NCAA lifts suspension on Aviation College’s certificate

The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has partially lifted the suspension on International Aviation College, Ilorin, Approved Training Organisation (ATO) certificate.

Mr Sam Adurogboye, General Manager, Public Relations, NCAA made the announcement on Sunday in Lagos.

Adurogboye said the lifting of the suspension was conveyed in a letter to the college dated Oct. 8.

“The partial lifting of the suspension was as a result of the closure of a good number of the findings and the remarkable commitment demonstrated in closing the remaining findings as verified during the recent re-certification audit of the college.

“Consequently, the partial lifting ”is only applicable to the Fixed Wing Pilot (Aeroplane) and Flight Dispatchers Courses.

“It follows therefore that the helicopter flight training segment of the approved courses is still on suspension until the necessary corrective actions are undertaken,” he said this in a statement.

Adurogboye, therefore urged the college to take necessary steps to close all open items after which the authority would carry out another round of re-certification exercise for total lifting or otherwise.

He said NCAA had earlier suspended the ATO of the college due to the deficiencies found during an audit of the institution.

Adurogboye reaffirmed that the NCAA was committed to enforcement of compliance to safety regulations at all times so as to continue to guarantee safer skies in Nigeria.

2019: Third Force unites against APC, PDP, as Agbakoba’s PT signs pact with OBJ’s ADC

Barring any last minute hitches, the Third Force Movement in the country, will any moment this week, formalise an arrangement which will take on the old breed politicians of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the general elections billed for next February.

A statement signed by Dr. Segun Awe Obe of the Directorate of Media Bureau, Nigeria Intervention Movement (NIM), said a coalition and merger process being facilitated by the NIM ahead of the 2019 elections, the Olusegun Obasanjo’s African Democratic Congress (ADC) and the Olisa Agbakoba-led People’s Trust (PT) have signed a pact to collapse structures and field candidates of both parties for the 2019 elections on a common platform.

The statement reads: “Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), to effect the Strategic Merger between PT and ADC, were jointly signed by Dr. Olisa Agbakoba (SAN), National Chairman and Chief Raph Nwosu last week in Abuja.

“Similarly, Gbenga Olawepo Hashim and Dr. Jay Osi Samuels-led Alliance for New Nigeria had earlier entered into a separate pact to fuse with the People’s Trust, PT in a strategic fusion for the 2019 elections, termed Alliance for People’s Trust, APT in anticipation of an eventual merger with the Obj’s ADC, which will be sealed in the coming days.

“The strategic alliance of PT with ANN has, however, produced a consensus presidential candidate in Gbenga Olawepo Hashim, an energy expert from Kebbi State at the National Convention of PT, which held on Saturday, 6th October 2018 at the Lagos Airport Hotels, Ikeja, Lagos.

“The budding initiative for merger/alliance among the third force political parties to field and position fresh breeds for 2019, will in the coming days, feature more political parties, such Kowa, Yes Party and the Social Democratic Party, SDP, which is currently studying the MOU circulated by the facilitator and anchor of coalition process; the Director General of Nigeria Intervention, Movement, NIM, Che Olawale Okunniyi, through SDP’s Contacts, Dr. Olu Agunloye and Mr. Donald Duke, SDP Presidential Candidate.”

A former National Security Adviser, Colonel Sambo Dasuki (rtd), 13 former governors and seven ex- ministers have been barred from travelling out of the country under Executive Order 6 (EO6) issued yesterday by President Muhammadu Buhari.

The restriction followed the judicial affirmation of the constitutionality and legality of the Executive Order 6 (EO6).

The watch-list and restriction were put in place pending the conclusion of the cases against those affected.

Also on the watch list seen last night by The Nation are: ex-governors Saminu Turaki (Jigawa), Murtala Nyako (Adamawa), Adebayo Alao-Akala (Oyo), Gabriel Suswam (Benue), Rasheed Ladoja (Oyo), Orji Uzor Kalu (Abia), Danjuma Goje (Gombe), Attahiru Bafarawa (Sokoto), Muazu Babangida Aliyu (Niger); Chimaroke Nnamani (Enugu); Sule Lamido (Jigawa); Gbenga Daniel (Ogun); and Ibrahim Shehu Shema (Katsina).

The ex-ministers are Nenadi Usman, Bashir Yuguda, Jumoke Akinjide; Bala Mohammed; Abba Moro; Femi Fani-Kayode; and Ahmadu Fintiri.

Others include a former Chief of Defence Staff, Air Marshal Alex Badeh; ex- Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral A. D. Jibrin; a former Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Mohammed Dikko Umar; a former Inspector-General of Police, Sunday Ehindero; and a former Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Adesola Amosu; Chairman Emeritus of AIT/ Raypower, High Chief Raymond Dokpesi; Waripamowei Dudafa (a former Special Assistant (Domestic) to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan); a former Chief Judge of Enugu State, Justice Innocent Umezulike; a former judge of the Federal High Court, Justice Rita Ofili-Ajumogobia;

Also on the list are a former National Publicity Secretary of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Olisa Metuh; Chief Jide Omokore; Ricky Tarfa; and Dele Belgore (SAN).

Most of the affected persons are currently facing trial for alleged corrupt practices in different courts.
The list was generated from cases and proceedings filed by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), the Nigeria Police, and 17 other agencies.
The document indicated that many of those affected had earlier been placed on similar legal restrictions by the courts and security agencies including restriction of movement, seizure of passport, temporary forfeiture of assets, freezing of accounts and others.

Explaining the government’s action in a statement yesterday, Senior Special Assistant to the President (Media & Publicity), Mallam Garba Shehu said: “Following the instant judicial affirmation of the constitutionality and legality of the Executive Order 6 (EO6), President Muhammadu Buhari has mandated the Attorney-General of the Federation and the Minister of Justice to implement the Order in full force.

“To this end, a number of enforcement procedures are currently in place by which the Nigeria Immigration Service and other security agencies have placed no fewer than 50 high profile persons directly affected by EO6 on watch-list and restricted them from leaving the country pending the determination of their cases.

“Also, the financial transactions of these persons of interest are being monitored by the relevant agencies to ensure that the assets are not dissipated and such persons do not interfere with, nor howsoever corrupt the investigation and litigation processes.

“It is instructive to note that EO6 was specifically directed to relevant law enforcement agencies to ensure that all assets within a minimum value of N50 million or equivalent, subject to investigation or litigation are protected from dissipation by employing all available lawful means, pending the final determination of any corruption-related matter.
“The Buhari administration reassures all well-meaning and patriotic Nigerians of its commitment to the fight against corruption, in accordance with the 1999 Constitution (as amended) and the general principles of the Rule of Law.

“Accordingly, this administration will uphold the rule of law in all its actions and the right of citizens would be protected as guaranteed by the Constitution.
“We, therefore, enjoin all Nigerians to cooperate with the law enforcement authorities towards ensuring a successful implementation of the Executive Order 6 which is a paradigm-changing policy of the Federal Government in the fight against corruption.”

A top government official, who spoke in confidence, said there is no cause for alarm on E06.
The source said: “The ban is not different from the conditions given by the court in granting these accused persons bail. The E06 is like a codification of steps to prevent those on trial for alleged corrupt practices from tampering with assets.

“Some of these accused persons used to go to court for permission before they can travel out of the country. The E06 is not a new thing but instead of all agencies working at cross-purposes, a list was generated and backed with the Executive Order.
“Some of those on trial, especially the Politically Exposed Persons (PEPs) had been selling their assets. What will they return after being convicted?”

A man from Ekiti state who was accused of using his daughter for money ritual after making attempts to rape her, has been finally apprehended.

According to reports, the man named Rufus Kehinde Daramola, who had been on the run since after he was summoned by traditional rulers over the money ritual accusation, was nabbed yesterday with the help of Oba justice Ademola Ajakaye, the Oluyin of Iyin Ekiti.

The 18-year-old daughter identified as Taiwo, passed away recently after suffering from an undisclosed sickness since January. 

It was earlier reported that the man made attempts to sleep with his daughter three times but failed but according to a relative, Omolayo Sussan Omowumi, the man allegedly slept with his daughter. 
 
It was gathered that after the suspect was nabbed, a Muslim cleric told everyone at the palace of the Oluyin that the daughter reportedly confessed to him before her death that her father slept with her but was afraid of telling her mum for the fear of being killed as threatened by her father.

He was alleged to have raped her with charm. 

The man also allegedly tried raping at least 3 of his wife’s younger sisters while the wife was with their daughter at the hospital.

The Muslim cleric also told people at the palace that if the man is left to complete his ritual and his money finally arrives, that his children will continue to die whether they are up to 100 in number. 

Mr Daramola who earlier denied being the father of the girl - said he never meant to commit the act. He was handed over to the police, right there in the palace yesterday.

RIGHTEOUSNESS MAKES US MASTERS

For if by one man’s offence death reigned by one; much more they which receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness shall reign in life by one, Jesus Christ (Romans 5:17).

Righteousness is the nature of God, which was imparted to your spirit when you were born again; it’s a gift from God to the whole world, but not everyone has received it. However, those who receive the gift of righteousness, according to the scriptures, shall reign in life! The Amplified version says, they shall reign as kings in life.

The word “reign” in Romans 5:17 above is actually a verb, which in the original Greek construction means “to king”; that expresses authority, dominion, and mastery. Righteousness makes us masters in life; we reign, or “king” in life, through righteousness. Righteousness-consciousness eliminates any sense of guilt, condemnation, or inferiority from us; it places us ahead and above Satan and his accusations. It also gives us the boldness and confidence to pray to God and expect answers; we’re unafraid and unashamed before Him, because we have His righteousness.

Without an understanding of righteousness, a Christian can’t live victoriously over the enemy. He’ll be subject to the elements of the world, not understanding the extent and potency of his authority in Christ. This is why you must keep growing in the knowledge of God’s Word. Ephesians 4:14 says, “That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive.”
Be conscious that you’re the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus.

There’re some Christians who experience spiritual attacks; that’s because they aren’t righteousness-conscious; they aren’t living the Word. They haven’t come to the realisation that they’re kings in life. Isaiah 32:1 lets us know that kings reign in righteousness.

By virtue of your new life in Christ, and your position as a righteous king-priest, the whole world is subdued before you. You have the mastery over Satan and his cohorts of darkness; you’re a champion for life! Glory to God!

PRAYER

Dear Father, I thank you for your righteousness in my spirit, which has made me a master over Satan and the powers of darkness, and has put me in a position of advantage. I reign and rule as a king, walking in mastery and victory over circumstances. The world is subdued before me, in the Name of the Lord Jesus. Amen.

• The last may not have been heard about the war of words between National Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Tinubu and the spokesman of Afenifere Yinka Odumakin over the best approach to resolve herdsmen crisis in the country.
  
• This is as Odumakin has accused Tinubu of being quiet when herdsmen kidnapped elder statesman, Olu Falae on his Ondo farm and burnt down many farms across the South West geo-political zone.
  
  
  
• Recall that the spate between both men had started following a recommendation by Tinubu that the Federal Government should take over unoccupied and isolated land in the country and convert them to grazing reserves as a solution to the incessant clashes between farmers and herdsmen.
  
• But speaking for Afenifere, Odumakin had accused Tinubu of playing politics with the lives of Nigerians, saying his suggestion was backward for modern-day Nigeria.
  
• However, Tinubu reacted by accusing Odumakin of suffering from “selective comprehension” and displaying “anarchical emotions” over a matter he did not fully understand.
  
• Odumakin has also responded to the former Lagos governor’s riposte.
  
• Dismissing Tinubu’s claim that the South West was not affected by the herdsmen crisis, Odumakin said that murderous herdsmen had killed people in Yewa, Oke Ogun, Akure, Ekiti and other parts of the region.
  
• He said, “Tinubu has maintained a sinful silence as herdsmen launched vicious attacks on the South-West and other sections of the country with thousands of lives lost in the last three years.
  
• “He can play the ostrich all he wants but we know he was mute when herdsmen kidnapped Chief Olu Falae. He could not find his voice when herders killed people in Yewa, Oke Ogun, Akure, Ekiti and the Middle Belt.
  
• “Neither did I hear a word from Tinubu when herdsmen kidnapped and killed a Permanent Secretary in Osun (where Tinubu and I are from).”
  
• He added, “I do not intend to take issues with him in all the personal attacks and insinuations of disorder of the mind. Why should I when I know that it is chronic abusers of substance that are more prone to suffer from such? Thank God I am not one of them.”
  

A young man has been shot dead by gunmen after being attacked on Friday (yesterday) in Benin, Edo state capital. It was gathered that the gun-wielding hoodlums stormed the residence of the deceased identified as 'Don Baba' and shot him multiple times. 

A Vehicle belong to the dead victim was also vandalise by the gunmen during the attack. 

The killing is coming days after the deceased celebrated his birthday (on Tuesday). 

His corpse has been deposited at a mortuary in Benin. 

Just recently, a young man was shot dead by gunmen suspected to be cultists in Edo state.

The deceased identified as Gaius Julius, a graduate of Civil engineering at Auchi Polytechnic, was allegedly killed by the gunmen who attacked him in an alleged case of mistaken identity.

PRESIDENTIAL EXECUTIVE ORDER No. 6 of 2018 ON THE PRESERVATION OF SUSPICIOUS ASSETS CONNECTED WITH CORRUPTION AND OTHER RELEVANT OFFENCES


Whereas it is the responsibility of the Federal Government of Nigeria to protect the resources of Nigeria from all forms of Corruption;

Whereas Corruption constitutes an unusual and extraordinary threat to the well-being, national security and stability of the country’s political and economic systems, as well as its continuous existence; and must be effectively addressed;

By the powers vested in me under Section 5 of the 1999 Constitution as amended which extends to the execution and maintenance of the Constitution, all Laws made by the National Assembly (including but not limited to Section 15(5) of the Constitution) to, abolish all corrupt practices and abuse of power, it is the duty of any responsible government to restrict dealings in suspicious assets subject to corruption related investigation or inquiries in order to preserve same in accordance with the rule of law and to guarantee and safeguard the fundamental human rights;

Now therefore, I, Muhammadu Buhari, President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, in exercise of the powers conferred on me hereby declare as follows:

Section 1. (a) Without prejudice to any laws or existing suits or any other rights arising out of or in respect thereof, all Assets of any Nigerian citizen within the territory of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, or within the possession or control of any person known to be a current or former government official, a person acting for or on behalf of such an official, any politically exposed person or any person who is responsible for or complicit in, or has directly or indirectly engaged in Corrupt Practices and Other Relevant Offences are forthwith to be protected from dissipation by employing all available lawful or statutory means, including seeking the appropriate Order(s) of Court where necessary, and shall not be transferred, withdrawn or dealt with in any way until the final determination by a court of competent jurisdiction of any corruption related matter against such a person.

This provision shall, in particular, apply to those connected with persons listed in the First Schedule to this Order, (or any such list as may be issued by the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice).

(b) Where a Government official or a person acting for and on behalf of such an official, directly or indirectly, engages in Corrupt Practices such as misappropriation of State assets for personal gain, receives any form of bribe or engages in Corrupt Practices related to the performance of his/her duties or the award or execution of Government contract; or transfers, launder or facilitates the transfer or laundering of proceeds of illicit activities, such official, in addition to forfeiting the proceeds in accordance with the relevant laws, shall forthwith be subject to the disciplinary procedure in accordance with the Public Service Rules and investigation by the Code of Conduct Bureau.

© (i) Subject to Section 174 of the Constitution, the Attorney General of the Federation shall have power to coordinate the implementation of this Order and to enlist the support of any Enforcement Authority particularly those listed in Second Schedule to this Order, or any other Person or Entity as may be required or permitted by applicable Law in order to give effect to this Executive Order.

(ii) The Attorney-General shall from time to time publish a list of all Assets protected pursuant to this Order.

(iii) The authority of the Attorney General of the Federation to preserve Assets pursuant to this Order shall extend to any Person who is under investigation in accordance with applicable law in connection with having materially assisted, sponsored, or provided financial, material, or technological support for, or goods or services to or howsoever in support of any Corrupt Practices or Other Relevant Offences by any Person whose Assets are protected pursuant to this Order; or any Entity that has engaged in, or whose members have engaged in, any Corrupt Practices or Other Relevant Offences,

Provided however, that the Attorney-General shall at all times in this connection, employ all available lawful or statutory means, including seeking the appropriate Order(s) of Court where necessary, and ensure that Assets shall not be transferred, withdrawn or dealt with in any way until the final determination by a court of competent jurisdiction of any corruption related matter against such a person.

(iv) Where the Attorney-General has reasonable cause to believe that any funds or assets within Nigeria is connected with Corruption, the Attorney-General may, subject to his powers under Section 174 of the Constitution and other laws enabling him in that regard, approach the Court for an Order blocking or freezing or confiscating such funds or assets pending the conclusion of an investigation or legal action.

(d) Enforcement Authorities shall upon request communicate to the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice information arising from their investigation or enquiry on any Person (Nigerian or non-Nigerian), whether resident in Nigeria or not, determined by such Enforcement Authority to have directly or indirectly engaged in or involved in Corruption within the territory of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, and the Attorney General shall immediately commence or direct the commencement of appropriate process(es) either administratively or judicially as may be necessary subject to existing applicable law.

Section. 2. (a) Any Person who in circumvention of this Executive Order attempts to or in fact: (i) interferes with the free exercise of the authorities of the Office of the President, (ii) destroys evidence, (iii) corrupts witnesses through cash/kind inducements, and (iv) generally perverts the course of justice shall be prosecuted in line with the provision of any Law(s) governing unlawful acts.

Section. 3. (i) Any Person who alleges that his rights have been, are being or are likely to be contravened by any of the provision of this Executive Order may apply to a competent Court in his jurisdiction for redress.

Section. 4. All Enforcement Authorities are hereby directed to diligently and rigorously collaborate with the Federal Ministry of Justice in implementing this Order to ensure the preservation of suspicious assets and prevent their dissipation or removal from the jurisdiction of Nigerian courts, in order to facilitate, support and enable the expeditious and accelerated prosecution of the alleged Corrupt Practices, serious or complex corruption, and Other Relevant Offences. Heads of Enforcement Authorities shall take personal responsibility and be subject to appropriate sanctions for any failure to comply with this Order.

Section. 5. For the purposes of this Order:

(a) The term “asset’’ means and shall include all properties including funds, liquid assets (bank balances), receivables, stocks and bonds held in portfolios, insurance policies, shares in listed or unlisted companies, and all manner of fixed assets. It shall cover all such assets whether held directly or indirectly through corporate entities, trust structures and intermediaries;

(b) The term “corruption or corrupt practices’’ means as may be defined under any enactment:

(i) any corrupt activity involving matters of corruption generally economic sabotage, human trafficking, drug trafficking and terrorism involving funds or assets in the sum or value in excess of fifty million Naira (N50,000,000) or its equivalent in foreign currency;

(ii) any misappropriation of government asset, corruption related to government contracts or bribery; or

(iii) the transfer or the facilitation of the transfer of the proceeds of corruption.

© The term “enforcement authority’’ means agencies and instrumentalities of the Federal Government of Nigeria including but not limited to those listed in Second Schedule to this Order imbued with regulatory/enforcement powers;

(d) The term “entity” means a partnership, association, trust, joint venture, corporation, group, subgroup, or other organization;

(e) The term “other relevant offences” means any act, which may constitute an act of, terrorism, financing of terrorism, kidnapping, sponsorship of ethnic or religious violence, economic sabotage, cases of economic and financial crimes, including acts contributing to the economic adversity of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as defined by relevant laws.

(f) The term “person” means a natural or juristic person.

Section. 6. This Executive Order shall take effect on day of 2018.

Section. 7. This Order may be cited as the PRESERVATION OF SUSPICIOUS ASSETS CONNECTED WITH CORRUPTION AND OTHER RELEVANT OFFENCES ORDER, 2018.

Former president Olusegun Obasanjo says President Muhammadu Buhari’s hands are too weak to sign the African free trade agreement (AfCTA).

He made the statement on Saturday while speaking at the Babacar Ndiaye lecture series in Bali, Indonesia.

Obasanjo said he hopes that Nigeria will soon have a president who will sign the agreement.

“Africa cannot overcome fears of trade wars till it achieves 50 percent intra-Africa trade,” he said at the ongoing World Bank Group/International Monetary Fund meetings.

“The AfCTA is a good idea and for Nigeria, hopefully, we will have a president that will be able to sign it because the one that is there now, his hands are too weak to sign.”

Nigeria was absent in March as leaders from 44 African countries signed the agreement to form a $2.5 trillion continental free-trade zone.

The free-trade zone is the largest in the world since the creation of the World Trade Organisation in 1995.

Explaining its decision not to sign, the federal government had said a committee was reviewing the treaty and that it needs more input from stakeholders.

Nonso Muojeke 14-year-old Nigerian schoolboy, whose classmates mounted a campaign against his deportation, has been granted leave to remain in Ireland along with his mother and brother, RTE reports.

Students and teachers at Nonso’s school, Tullamore College, had protested outside Leinster House, and presented a petition to Minister for Justice Charlie Flanagan in an attempt to stop the deportation order, which was issued last June.

Minister Flanagan has confirmed that the family has been granted leave to remain. Nonso was two-years-old when he arrived in Ireland from Nigeria, with his mother and his older brother, after his father died in 2006.

The family applied for asylum, but their application was turned down and a deportation order was issued. Nonso’s supporters argued that the deportation would be unjust since he had spent almost his entire life in Ireland.

The petition to stop his deportation was signed by 22,000 people. Speaking through an intermediary the Muojeke family said it was “overwhelmed by the news” and appealed for privacy at this time.

N-Power Programme To Train 10m Nigerian Graduates By 2023, Says Osinbajo

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has said that N-Power Programme introduced by the Federal Government is targeted at training 10 million Nigerian graduates by 2023.

He revealed that the N-Power Programme has so far provided jobs for 500, 000 young Nigerian graduates in the last two years.
The Vice President disclosed this while delivering a special lecture on “The Challenges of Human Development in 21 Century Africa” at the prestigious Oxford University, United Kingdom.

He said, “As the proportion of the working age group of 15-59 years will continue to increase steadily over the next years, Nigeria has the advantage of “demographic dividend‟. Harnessing the demographic dividend through appropriate skill development efforts provides an opportunity to achieve inclusion and productivity within the country.

“Over the past two years, through the N-Power Programme, the largest post-tertiary employment programme in Africa, we have been able to offer skills development programmes digitally to over 500,000 young citizens between the ages of 18 and 35. We have set a target of skilling 10 million Nigerians by 2023.”

Osinbajo also highlighted the provision of social housing in a Family Homes Fund as a “core plank of the government’s empowerment approach, which is expected to provide another 1.5 million jobs by 2023.

He said, “Our Family Homes Fund aims to provide up to 500,000 housing units by 2023 using a concessional financing facility to construct houses at less than N5m, as well as a home loans assistance programme that will enable people at the bottom of the housing pyramid to buy their own homes at subsidized rates. This will be complemented by a rent-to-own scheme.”

He also noted that a total of N55 billion has been disbursed to 250,000 farmers under the administration’s Anchor Borrowers Programme scheme, which provides subsidised credit to smallholder farmers so they can boost production with guaranteed uptake by the anchor companies
He added that the continued diversification of the Nigerian economy by this administration and its massive investment on infrastructure are some of the initiatives it has deployed towards promoting growth and human capital development in the country.

According to him, “We have also prioritized spending on infrastructure. Rail, roads, and power in particular.
“Despite earning 60% less than the previous administration, we have spent N2.7 trillion in two budget cycles on capital, the highest in the nation’s history.


“We also executed a comprehensive, phased plan for ease of doing business which earned us 24 places higher on the World Bank ease of doing business index and commendation as one of the top 10 reforming economies in the world.

“We launched our energizing economies project, providing solar power to markets and economic clusters for small businesses and petty traders”, Osinbajo said.

He also inaugurated the International Advisory Board (IAB) of Oxford University’s African Studies Centre, under the School of Global and Area Studies (OSGA).

The members of the inaugurated board are eminent leaders from across the world including several African countries like Nigeria and South Africa.

They are Mr Tito Mboweni, an international advisor of Goldman Sachs, and former Chairman of the South African Reserve Bank, who will chair the board; Madame Monica Geingos, First Lady of Namibia, lawyer and entrepreneur; Prof. Ibrahim Gambari, former UN Under-Secretary for Political Affairs, one-time Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations and former Nigeria’s External Affairs Minister; and Dr. Charlotte Scott, former First Lady of Zambia and development specialist.

Others include Mr Gareth Ackerman, Chairman of Pick’n’Pay, South Africa; Mr. Alex Duncan, Director and Consultant Economist, The Policy Practice, Brighton, United Kingdom; Mr. Ivor Agyeman-Duah – Economist and author, Accra, Ghana; Governor Nasir El-Rufai, Governor of Kaduna State, Nigeria; and Ms. Linda Mabhena-Olagunju, founder and Managing Director, DLO Energy Group (Pty) Ltd, South Africa.

Dr mohammed Santuraki, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Niger State, has said whether the ruling party admits it or not, the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, is a "formidable opponent".

He also urged the APC to put its house in order to emerge victorious in the 2019 general election.

He stated this when he spoke with NAN in Suleja, Niger State on Saturday.

Santuraki also urged the party to address the issues related to the primaries to ensure that the APC remains united.

His words: "Whether we would like to admit or not, the presidential candidate that the main opposition party, the PDP, settled for is a formidable opponent, even if not a credible one.

“Within a week of emerging as the presidential flag bearer, he appointed his campaign team and named his running mate. This to me indicates a much needed sense of urgency. We, in APC must respond in like manner. The clock is ticking. We must push the button."

Speaking on the disagreements within the party, he highlighted the steps taken to address them and commended the party's leadership for its efforts.

He said: “I am happy to note that 10 long days after the October 2 primary elections in Niger, better judgement eventually prevailed. Agreed, it was a choice between a rock and a hard place, but it shouldn’t have been a difficult choice.

“While the election results were adjudged incomplete, flawed and inconclusive in Zone A, and the results also contested in the other zones, a greater level of injustice would have been perpetrated if the tickets were auto-awarded to the incumbents.

“It is commendable that the national chairman finally accepted a more logical reasoning by awarding the victory to the presumed winners of the elections.

“I congratulate and thank Governor Abubakar Sani Bello, the senatorial aspirants, the elders and other APC stakeholders for their resolute stand on the side of our people, for fairness throughout this process. I firmly believe that a flawed democratic process is better than outright dictatorship.”

If Jonathan did what Buhari, APC did in Osun, Oshiomhole won’t be calling himself former gov today—Olawepo-Hashim

Mr Gbenga Olawepo-Hashim is the presidential candidate of the Peoples Trust (PT) and Alliance for New Nigeria (ANN) in the 2019 general election, and also the candidate of a coalition of political parties, called the Third Force. In this interview, he speaks on his agenda for the economy, declaring that the All Progressives Congress (APC) is not prepared for free, fair and credible elections next year. Group Politics Editor TAIWO ADISA brings excerpts:

You are the presidential candidate of the Alliance for New Nigeria (ANN). How prepared are you for the challenges ahead the 2019 elections?

First I want to thank God for the opportunity of being elected as the candidate of ANN. The job is to continue to educate the electorate on our intention. There are two things that people would like to know-your commitment to what you stand for and your capacity to carry through your stated objective. The All Progressives Congress (APC), for instance, campaigned on the platform of anti-corruption basically, but having been elected, the party showed no capacity to implement anything against corruption.

So, what I’m bringing to the table to the electorate is not just going to be my stated intention, but also the capacity to drive whatever I commit myself to, which they can see from my own record of performance as a businessman for 27 years. I have a business that God has helped me to build. This comes to underscore capacity. Within a short time, we’ve been able to transform ANN to the fastest growing political party in Nigeria and to a recognisable brand.

Do you believe the structure you have now can deliver you the presidency in 2019?

Well, the structure of this campaign is not just ANN as a political party. One of the things that our party adopted was a strategic alliance with a number of political parties that have already approached us to align with us with a view to supporting our political aspiration, based on shared values and objectives. So, the platform that we are going to be running on to the general election is a bit bigger than ANN.


Beyond political parties too, you must know that this is going to be a different election. What people want to see in the presidential election is a consensus leader, a bridge builder and a creative mind. What people want to see is a candidate that can unite Nigeria; a candidate that can secure the country; a candidate that can grow the economy. So, the narrative of who becomes president in 2019 is going to be different from what it was in 2015.

Just as you are emerging the presidential candidate, another faction within the party was busy addressing the media to distance themselves from what you were doing. What really happened?

You know this is typical of our emerging democracy. We have done two decades in democracy, but a lot of people are still learning democratic principle and this has nothing to do with whether you are a soldier or you are a civilian. It has to do with what background the people are coming from and all these comes to play in the run up to the primary elections and the contestations of various parties. This is happening in almost every political party and the truth of it is that once the party gathers some capacity, what also comes with it is a lot of internal contestations because people see a pathway to be interested. On some occasion, it is even people who are external parties. Once they see a party is getting strong, some oppositions to those parties get interested in the internal affairs of those parties and they begin to put their fingers and hands in such parties because they don’t want that platform to be available to contest against them. The bottom line is how are these issues resolved in the final analysis, going forward.

The next election is a different election. It’s not the type of election we have seen before. The 2019 election is a referendum on the future of Nigeria. Whether we consolidate our democracy or our democracy relapse to totalitarianism, that’s one question we will answer as we go to 2019. We would answer to whether Nigeria would continue to be a united country under God or it is going to be a country that would subsequently be enmeshed in further ethnic cleansing, divisions and religious bigotry. This is what this next election is all about; it’s an unusual election. So, the type of candidates that this election calls for are the ones who have strong values, who are tested, who have records, who have stood for principle and along the line have not compromised. All that we’ve brought to the table or acquired during the struggle against military dictatorship are going to be useful in the next election because Nigeria is facing imminent dictatorship.

With what we saw in Osun State, agents of political parties being tied to the stake and the brazen and aggressive manner which victory was snatched from the victors, the next election is going to be tough. So, it’s not a kiddies’ affair. I quite understand that the strategy of APC is to register many parties that can suck the vote of the young people who ordinarily would not vote for [President Muhammadu] Buhari. So, they want to give them as many young candidates as possible who would just be making empty noise and they go with a few thousand votes that otherwise would not have gone to the ruling party. APC is up to the game of promoting very weak candidates in virtually all the political parties, even in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). That is what they are doing in every political party. So, it’s not just enough for you to stand aloof. The same crisis is going on in APC. Every primary of APC virtually in every state is contested bitterly with serious factions and people protesting. In PDP, it’s the same. So, any party that is of consequence, you must see these internal contestations because what is going on is an organised thing.


Why are you pointing fingers at APC for what is happening in your party?

Yes, APC is responsible. Number one, these guys who are making this trouble, they walked away from ANN; they said they were not members of the party anymore. When we had the last convention, three of them walked away from ANN and they made press statements that they had left the party. And then about few weeks to the presidential convention, they came back and said we are now presidential candidates. We have organised our convention. I can understand if people can forget what happened 20 years ago. But I have no explanation for people whose memories are so short that they don’t remember what happened six weeks ago.

Everybody knows you as a person who has done well in business and you have been playing some roles in politics for a long time. But would you say you are a national brand that people would easily go for you?

Yes, I’m a very national brand. I’m more national than anybody you can present today. Number one, I am half north and half south. There is no candidate like that that is contesting. Therefore, I cannot be unfair to the North and I cannot be unfair to the South. Half of my family is Christian; the other half is Muslim. There is no other candidate like that. So, how else can you be a national brand? I have won election in this country where you have students coming from Maiduguri, coming from Yola, coming from everywhere and voting for me. I was a national officer of PDP that was elected by all Nigerians; not by one senatorial district or a governor who is just a local constituency. How national can you be? I have represented Africa in various youth fora globally. I do business in about seven countries of the world and I have visited about 29 countries of the world. How much can you be exposed? How much can you be cosmopolitan? There is no candidate is this election that has got a brand that is as national as I am.

The president recently promised the international community that his administration would deliver a free and fair election. Do you have any reason not to agree with such position?

Well, I think we will have a free and fair election by the commitment of all Nigerians. I also want to believe that those who are in the electoral agencies are patriotic Nigerians. At some point in time, they would also have to take positions as to where they want history to record them and these are personal questions that everybody would have to individually ask. But if you ask me, APC as a party and the president inclusive, have not demonstrated to me that they are committed to a free and fair election. They have not acted in any way that shows that the party is committed to a free and fair election. They have been acting like dictators; they have been acting like some fascists. But I believe that the electoral umpires can still be neutral and write their names in gold at the end of the day.

How would you justify your claim that APC is not ready for a free and fair election?

You saw what happened in Osun, the way and manner they went about doing things. That is not what happened under the watch of President Goodluck Jonathan. If Jonathan did what they did in Osun, Adams Oshiomhole would not have been governor; he would not have been calling himself a former governor now. We had that kind of election in Edo where a rerun was ordered for and all that under Jonathan and even Oshiomhole was full of praises for the role of Jonathan at that particular time. Can we say the same of Buhari? You cannot. So, we need some serious commitment from President Buhari. The man is fast losing his integrity because when you say something and you act contrary to what you say, it is called hypocrisy. But just to be clear, our rescue mission for Nigeria is unstoppable and it is not dependent on the whims and caprices of Buhari. His tenure would expire on May 29, 2019 and if there is no free and fair election by then, every legitimate means would be used to have a free and fair election in Nigeria.

The ex-vice president, however, opted to select a candidate from the south-east.

Atiku had explained that he picked Obi due to his “vast knowledge of global and local economics as well as being a financial expert, all experience which Nigeria is in great need at this point in time”.

Expectant mother gives birth to an alien in bizarre maternity shoot
It's an ALIEN! Mother-to-be with a love of all things spooky recreates iconic movie scene in bizarre and bloody maternity shoot where her husband chases their offspring around a pumpkin patch

An expectant couple recreated one of the most famous movie scenes of all time when the mom-to-be gave birth to an alien in a bizarre Halloween photo shoot.
Todd and Nicole Cameron, from British Columbia, Canada, are big fans of the Halloween season and told how they love an excuse to dress up and have fun.
So when it came to their maternity shoot, the couple decided they wanted an unconventional photo shoot to celebrate their impending arrival.
The quirky couple also wanted to choose a shoot which reflected their dark sense of humor and love of Halloween.

The alternative photo shoot started off routinely enough with pictures of doting parents-to-be Todd and Nicole Cameron 

The chose a pumpkin patch as the location for their maternity shoot to share news of their impending arrival with loved-ones

The sequence of action shots follows Nicole's pregnancy 'journey' and soon things start to appear not quite as they may seem

Nicole soon begins to go into labor in the pumpkin patch with a concerned Todd trying to support her for her big 'delivery'
The shoot itself was taken in a autumnal pumpkin patch, and starts off in a fairly normal fashion. The couple pose together under an umbrella and Todd leans down to lovingly kiss Nicole’s bump.
However, the shoot quickly takes a gory and bloody twist.
Drawing from the famous scene in Alien, Nicole can be seen lying on the ground as an alien bursts from her stomach in a bloody eruption.
Todd is then pictured chasing the gruesome alien ‘baby’ as it scurries away across the pumpkin patch.
The parents are subsequently seen cradling their monster child in a blanket, beaming at each other with pride.
And attention to detail certainly wasn’t lacking for the shoot, with the alien even sucking on a miniature dummy.

There is cause for concern as Nicole starts to bleed heavily with an oddly shaped 'creature' protruding from her stomach

Todd told Bored Panda: 'I had recently found an Alien’s Chestburster model at a garage sale and after putting it together and painting it, the idea for this shoot came to me.
'I had an idea for the general story and props needed, including carving the alien pod pumpkin and Nicole took care of finding our ‘out there’ wardrobe.
He added: ‘We actually first met at Halloween, we always hand-make elaborate costumes and we go all out on Halloween decorations at our house, so this was really just a fun way to celebrate who we are while passing on a few smiles and laughs in the process.
'The photo shoot took about an hour and, though chilly and muddy on the pumpkin patch, it was so much fun.
‘We just kept laughing at the absurdity of it and hoping the employees of the farm wouldn’t drive by to see us covered in blood.'

The delivery may not have gone smoothy, but nevertheless the new parents seemed to fall in love with their new arrival

You are not looking bad at all, what’s the secret?



Oh really, well thanks for the compliment; as for the secret, it’s nothing but the grace of God, peace of mind. God has been faithful.
What’s happening to you, career and life?
I will like to say that I am flourishing in my chosen career. I produce more movies to entertain and educate our audience to learn new things about life. I am also still waxing stronger in the industry so that the face will not fade out. This is the job I learnt and I know it so well. We are giving our best to take the Nigerian entertainment world to the zenith. Above all, I still put in my best to keep my marriage.
What’s your take on the present state of Nollywood?
Looking at the industry, it has taken a new shape, we now produce sitcom, soaps and what have you. This is technology era and we need to follow the trend. If we can’t beat them, definitely we have to join them. Remember it was home video before it became VCD and DVD. Now it is Africa Magic and online TV. People are no longer buying movies like before, they now prefer Africa Magic and I can tell you categorically that we the movie makers caused it. Though, the more they show our movies, the better people get to know us more but yet, it affects us in some areas.
How do you mean when you said movie making was affected by Africa Magic?
Before now, when I visit my home town, you see aged people watching like six or eight movies a day. In fact, they will be clamouring for more. But today, they only rely on Africa Magic. How do you expect us to sell the ones in the market? It is now difficult because viewers have another avenue to see our jobs.
How do you think the industry can correct this?
There are different ways to correct such. Firstly, we can’t do without the marketers, and likewise the marketers, they feed from our jobs. We should be one big family and work together. The mistake is from the movie producers because everybody wants to produce now. If you have a good job, you will be proud to make order on what you want about your movie. But if it is washy, my dear you won’t know which way to follow. This is not how the industry started. We need to sit ourselves down and re-strategize. If we follow the normal process, things will come back to its usual shape.
In the past, when marketers give us two million naira to produce for them, some of us won’t monitor the job at first, all they do is to acquire a car, and alas they produce wishy-washy. We were the one who taught them to buy the right from us, they will also owe us and they won’t pay. We all contributed to the mistakes. Most of the movies you see on Africa Magic were being sold to them by the marketers. That was why I said we taught them. Before, after shooting the movie, the producer, director and concerned people will be at the studio for editing and proper productions, but today the marketers are the ones undergoing the stress alone. We are no longer interested in that again, all we do now is to sell our fine faces on social media. We go after big cars and how to live a flambouyant life style rather than facing what puts food on our tables.
Could that be the reason we see a lot of errors in most Nollywood movies?
Yes, because the producer no longer monitor his job. He/she leaves that for the marketers to handle. Some of us don’t screen play our movies again before shooting them. Many of us want to be an investor but we don’t have the prowess to do it diligently.
Are you working of any movie at the moment?
Yes I do. We are currently on one called ‘Adehun Olorun’. We are at the moment shooting it in Osogbo, Osun State with the likes of Femi Adebayo, Laide Bakare, Adebayo Salami, Madam Saje, Fathia Balogun, Kunle Afod and I. Directed by Adebayo Tijani and produced by Toyosi Adesanya Ileyemi. It is a story that talks about men endurance when their wives are looking for the fruit of the womb.
How long have you been acting?
I am 25 years in acting this year. There are several challenges but I still have to give glory to God almighty. There is no profession in this world without challenges. I don’t see them as challenges again but knowledge which is now helping my career today. I trained at Odunifa caucus in Lagos for ten years. I learnt how to dance, act and sing. I became 25years in acting in April 20th 2018. I joined the caucus in 1993.
Why didn’t you celebrate it?
Celebration is still coming up in future. Let the likes of the veterans in the industry celebrate theirs to some extent. I am just a beginner, I want to achieve more.
How did you even join?
I went to Odunifa caucus and I obtained the form with N3, 500 in 1993, it was stage performances then. If you don’t know how to dance and sing, you will not be allowed to participate, unlike today.
You produced a special track for Moji Olaiya after her departure, how did you get the inspiration?
Unknown to many, I am a good singer. I sing so well before I joined the industry, and after I got to Odunifa caucus, I acquired more knowledge about music. Subsequently, I joined Razaq Olayiwola aka Ojopagogo for more training. With the help of Tajudeen Gbadamosi, Salome, Ayo Oluyemi, Biodun Adekanmbi and co, God really crowned my effort.
Any plans towards releasing an album like your colleagues?
I have produced one which I am not ready to release for now. Even when I was in America, I did one. I just have passion for music but I don’t see career in it. If I go back to America, I will release anyone I do now.
How do you marry your work with your marriage?
It is the grace of God in the first place, and secondly, I have an understanding husband who respects the nature of my job. For that reason, I promised not to pass my boundary. If I tell him I want to spend five days at location, I will make sure that it didn’t go beyond that.
How do you describe what you wear?
I am not the flashy type, I love to look good, and I feel comfortable in whatever I wear especially when it’s simple and cool. Thank you.

My tribal marks drove the father of my child away –Alabi, Nigerian model

While chatting with Saturday Beats, it was obvious that the model with conspicuous tribal marks, Adetutu Alabi, is one of the happiest people on earth. For so long, it had been her dream to work with American artiste, Rihanna, and it seems her dream is close to fruition.
Rihanna finally noticed the Nigerian model with prominent tribal marks as she replied her on Instagram by following her handle.
Shortly after the model revealed that she would like to work for Rihanna, her tweet quickly went viral with people tagging Rihanna. This obviously worked as the international singing sensation is now one of her followers.
Alabi took to Instagram to share the good news and expressed high hopes that Rihanna’s management would soon get in touch with her.
She further revealed that bullying due to her tribal marks discouraged her from going for university education.
She said, “I started modelling last year after I came out from my shell or hiding due to my tribal marks. The bullying started in my primary and secondary school days. Due to this, I learnt a skill instead of going to university.
“I was supposed to study law but I decided not to take the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination at all because I was scared of being bullied in the university. I believed that if I attended university, I might end up killing myself.
“Later, I had to ask my parents why they gave me these tribal marks and they told me it was because of our culture and to showcase my beauty.
“I didn’t feature in any of my primary school pictures because of my tribal marks and even though I had friends, I was always like a fifth wheel in the group. An embarrassing day for me was when a client told me to always conceal my tribal marks anytime I came to work with her. She eventually told me that she couldn’t work with me.”
Further speaking on the pain her tribal marks had caused her, she said some strangers had told her that she was ugly.
“Sometimes when I walk on the road, people would drag me, only to tell me I am ugly but I always ignore them because some people defend me,” she said.
The model further revealed that her tribal marks ended her relationship with the father of her child because he was ashamed of walking with her in public.
She said, “One of the reasons the father of my child absconded was because of my tribal marks. He could not be with me in public and he only made us meet at night; we dated for some months in 2008 and I got pregnant in 2009. I bore a girl for him and she will be nine years old this year.
“I felt I was the ugliest girl in the world. I got fed up with relationships because men didn’t always want to go out with me during the day; they would prefer to be with me at night. There was a guy I dated for two years and that was the condition of the relationship, so I had to endure.
“My mum died when I was four years old, so I grew up with a single dad. When I got pregnant, I had to run away from home to a foundation that accommodated me.”
Speaking on why she reached out to Rihanna, she said, “I was motivated to start the campaign when I woke up one day and saw that Rihanna posted a picture with a similar posture I assumed in one of my pictures and I have always been her fan.
“My goal is to model for her which I hope to achieve one day. I posted the picture and my friends reposted and retweeted it and the campaign began; that was it. I was very excited when she followed me back.”

The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) yesterday in Abuja reported an oil pipeline fire outbreak along the Osisioma axis near Aba Depot in its System 2E pipeline network.

The corporation said the incident might have been caused by suspected oil thieves who had hacked into the line to intercept flow of petrol from Port Harcourt to Aba.

NNPC Group General Manager, Group Public Affairs Division, Mr. Ndu Ughamadu, confirmed fatalities and loss of properties in the ensuing inferno.

Ughamadu said the corporation’s safety experts along with men of the Abia State Fire Service had swung into action to contain the situation, saying updates on the situation would be provided as events unfold.

NNPC Group Managing Director, Dr. Maikanti Baru, expressed shock at the wanton willful destruction of lives and properties occasioned by the incident.

The GMD prayed that God reposes the souls of the innocent ones that died in the incident, even as he warned members of the public against tampering with oil and gas facilities many of which he said were inflammable.

Baru called on host communities to create avenues to moderate the criminal tendencies of a few bad eggs living among them

The death of an 11-year-old student of Government Secondary School, in Calabar, Cross River state, has left his family in pains due to the tragic circumstance that led to his demise. has been electrocuted.

The deceased identified as Isaac Sunday Okon, was electrocuted after being caught up by a Unclad electric wire at about 1:30pm on Friday during the closing period of the school, located along Atekong Drive, State Housing Estate, Calabar Municipality Local Government Area of Cross River State.

It was gathered that the deceased is the only son to his mother, Mrs. Happiness Sunday Okon who is a petty trader. Mrs. Okon also have 3 daughters, one is said to be a student of the school, but in Senior Secondary, SS 1.

It was said the incident happened when the Teachers asked them to pick up dirts littered around the school compound before going home as he mistakenly stepped on the wire and got electrocuted. 

The remains of Isaac Okon has been deposited in the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital (UCTH) morgue, Calabar.

A hardcore Nigerian traditionalist based in Germany, has revealed why he did not marry his former girlfriend despite having a baby together.

The man identified as Oliver Emeka Nwokedi who celebrated 40-years-old some weeks ago, revealed that different religious beliefs is the main cause of them not being together based on she's a staunch Catholic while he, a hardcore traditionalist.

The man also revealed that his daughter is unhappy with him unless it comes to matter of money as he said he cannot go back to church.

President Buhari is reportedly expecting the resignation of Minister of Communications, Alhaji Adebayo Shittu, who failed to participate in the NYSC scheme after his graduation from the University of Ife (now Obafemi Awolowo University), Osun State.

According to Punch's sources, Adebayo Shittu who was recently disqualified from participating in the APC gubernatorial primaries in Oyo State because he had no NYSC certificate, was told by to do the “needful” by President Buhari.

The source further stated that President Buhari had made it clear that the minister did not have to wait for him (the President) to act, before doing the proper thing in this instance.

“The truth is that the President has made his position known to the minister and there are witnesses.

“What the President said was that people should not be waiting for him to act the way he did in the case of a former Minister of Finance (Mrs Kemi Adeosun) before they do what is needful.

“I am sure he is very clear on the matter the way he addressed the issue, and the minister understands this" the source said.

A corps member identified as Joseph Adebayo, who turned up for a picnic to celebrate the end of his service year, reportedly got drowned.


It was gathered that the corps member who was attending a picnic drowned on Thursday in Gubi river at the outskirts of Bauchi, after a faulty canoe conveying him and his colleagues to the picnic location capsized.

While the other two corps members were rescued by villagers, 26-year-old Adebayo got drowned. The corpse of the late corps member who is from Ogun state, was recovered on Friday and deposited at the mortuary of Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital, Bauchi.

In Mark 7:25-30, we read about the Syrophenician woman who came to Jesus to heal her demon-possessed daughter. In their ensuing dialogue, Jesus said to her, “...go thy way; the devil is gone out of thy daughter” (Mark 7:29).

When she got home, she found that her daughter had, indeed, been restored to health. When the Lord said to the woman, “Go home; the devil is gone out of your daughter,” He didn’t try to confirm whether what He said had happened, because what He uttered was Truth.

On a certain occasion, I was ministering to a dear lady at the Healing School, and the demon was trying to resist; screaming, “I’m not leaving!” While still throwing tantrums and manifesting in the lady, I said, “The demon is out; she’s free!” And I moved straightaway to minister to the next person on the healing line; at that very moment, she was restored to health. Glory to God!

Now, all that physical manifestation from the demon was a lie. When I said by the Spirit, “The demon is out,” that was Truth. This shows the importance of our understanding of Truth. The Word of God on your lips is God talking, and no demon or force can resist it. Someone may think the devil was still there, just because the devil said, “I’m not leaving”; no. We, through the Word and the Spirit, determine truth; not Satan or circumstances.

Truth, in the Kingdom of God, has nothing to do with physical manifestations or sensory perceptions. Moreover, truth is different from fact. Maybe the fact is that there’s no money in your bank account, but it’s not true that you’re broke. So, you’re not telling the truth when you say, “I’m broke,” or “I have a fever.” Your experiences, especially when they don’t measure up to new creation realities, aren’t “Truth”; they’re shadows.

For instance, someone may say, “I don’t want to say I’m sick, but I’m not feeling fine.” No! Faith doesn’t talk like that. What the Bible says is that those who dwell in Zion “…shall not say, I am sick…” (Isaiah 33:24). When you say, “I’m sick,” you’ve uttered a lie, because the truth is, the new creation can’t be the sick.

INTRODUCTION OF CONSTITUTIONAL AND OTHER MAJOR CHANGES IN NIGERIAN POLITICS

*He was the first gubernatorial candidate in Nigeria to legally challenge to its logical conclusion, his governorship electoral victory that was denied him. He won in the Courts and reclaimed his mandate.

*He was the first Governor in Nigeria to legally challenge his wrongful impeachment and was reinstated by the Courts.

*He was the first Governor in Nigeria to seek the interpretation of tenures of Governors when INEC allowed elections to take place in Anambra State when his tenure had not expired; the election already concluded was cancelled and he was allowed to complete his tenure.

*He was the first Governor to serve a 2nd term in both the new and old Anambra State, that is, almost 40 years after creation of the State.

*He was the first Governor, whilst still in Office, to be appointed a Special Adviser to the President.

FUNDAMENTAL ACHIEVEMENTS AS GOVERNOR OF ANAMBRA STATE (PARTIAL LISTING)

1. Anambra was the first State to commence Sub-Sovereign Wealth savings, the first of its kind in Sub-Saharan Africa. At a time many other Governors were leaving huge debts, I left the equivalent of $500 million Dollars in investment as well as local and foreign currency, including $156 million in Dollar-denominated bonds.

2. For the first time in the history of Anambra State, Ambassadors and High Commissioners of notable countries such as United States, Britain, Russia, European Union, South Africa, Belgium, Israel, the Netherlands, Canada, among others, visited the State. Before my tenure, Anambra was practically a pariah state blacklisted by the Diplomatic Corps and international development partners.

3. Development partners such as UNDP, UNICEF, the World Bank, DFID, the European Union etc., which hitherto were not in Anambra State started working with the State. Anambra was consistently adjudged one of the best states in development partnership and commitment to reforms for good governance.

4. He was recognised as Best Governor by the Millennium Development Goals Office (OSSAP-MDGs) and the UNDP in the implementation of their programmes in Nigeria.

5. The Nigerian Debt Management Office (DMO) rated Anambra as the least indebted state in Nigeria. In spite of visible and measurable achievements recorded in various sectors, the State under him did not borrow or raise bonds for her various projects.

6. The Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria rated Anambra State as the most financially stable state in the country.

7. The State's ground-breaking return of schools to their original owners - Voluntary Agencies (Churches) on 1st January 2009, and subsequent partnership with the Agencies in Education, saw the State move from 24th position out of 36 States to Number One in National Examination Council (NECO) and West African Examination Council (WAEC) examinations for three consecutive years. This made the World Bank to commission a study, led by the renowned Prof. Paul Collier of Oxford University, on this revolutionary partnership and phenomenal achievement.

8. The State also entered into strategic partnership with the Churches in the Health sector. This symbiotic relationship resulted in a tremendous boost to health care because of the services offered by health institutions owned by Voluntary Agencies, while the State restored grants to the agencies and made available to them more than 50 million Dollars in various types of support.

10. Through partnership with the Church in the Health sector, his Government funded the transformation of -:

a: Iyienu Hospital, Ogidi; 
b: Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Ihiala; 
c: St Charles Borromeo Hospital, Onitsha; 
d: Holy Rosary Hospital, Waterside, Onitsha; and 
e: St. Joseph Hospital, Adazi-Nnukwu. 
His Government also built the Joseph Nwilo Heart Centre in St. Joseph, Adazi-Nnukwu, where heart operations are now being performed.

11. His Government won the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation (1 Million dollars) as the best-performing state in immunisation in the South-East. With complementary funding from our Government, they used the money to build 10 Maternal and Child Care Centres across the State, particularly in rural communities, in partnership with the Churches.

12. The State was the first to procure and distribute more than 30,000 computers to secondary schools, including 22,500 from HP. The Managing Director for Personal Systems Group HP Inc, Mr. FabriceCampoy described the deployment as the biggest of such projects in the Middle-East and Africa.

13. Anambra State Government provided Microsoft Academies to more than 500 secondary schools, which the Head of Microsoft in Nigeria (Mr. Ken Span) described as the biggest such deployment in Africa so far.

14. The State provided Internet access to more than 500 secondary schools, which the CEO of Galaxy Backbone (Mr. Gerald Ilukwe) characterized as incomparable to any in the country.

15. More than 700 buses were provided to secondary schools in the State by our Government.

16. Boreholes were provided in schools all over the State.

17. Numerous classrooms were built in all the 177 communities of the State.

18 As part of the efforts to turn around the economy of the State, a number of companies were attracted to build their facilities in the Anambra State. A case in point is SABMiller, the 2nd largest brewery in the world, which built their first Green Field facility in the State, which is today one of the most successful facilities they operate globally.

19. A number of other companies followed the SABMiller initiative and were all supported and encouraged under our Government; a good example is INNOSON Motor Manufacturing Company, from which our government bought more than 1,000 vehicles.

20. Anambra State for the first time started close collaboration with recognized government security agencies (the Police, Army, Navy, Department of State Security, Civil Defence, among others), offering them various types of support including provision of more than 500 security vehicles. The improvement in security was phenomenal, such that the former IG of Police (Abubakar Mohammed) lauded Anambra State for not witnessing any bank robbery in my last three years in office.

21. To further enhance security, Anambra State provided at least one security vehicle to each of all the 177 communities in the State as well as various organizations such as markets and Churches.

22. His Administration conceived and built, from scratch, the first state-owned Teaching Hospital, Chukwuemeka Odumegwu-Ojukwu teaching Hospital, Awka.

23. His Government commenced the planned development of the Igbariam Campus of the ChukwuemekaOdumegwu-Ojukwu University, including the fencing, construction of internal roads, electrification, construction of the Faculty of Law, Auditorium, Administrative Block, Faculty of Agriculture, Management Building, among others).

24. His Government attracted the World Bank support on erosion - National Erosion and Watershed Management Project (NEWMAP) - to Anambra State.

25. His Government was the first to do Poverty Mapping in Nigeria, as a guide for the effective implementation of our poverty-alleviation strategies.

26 His Government, for the first time, undertook the aerial mapping of Awka as well as the production of Structure Plans for Awka Capital Territory, Onitsha and Nnewi.

27. During his tenure and with his Government's support, Anambra State became an oil producing State.

28. He built the first Secretariat Complex to house State Government Ministries that were hitherto scattered around the State. 

29. His government commenced the development of the 'Three Arms Zone' comprising Government House/Governor’s Lodge, Legislative Building/Speakers Residence, and Judiciary Building with Chief Judge’s Residence.

30. By the end of his tenure in 2014, more than twelve (12) health institutions, including two hospitals, had secured accreditation; when we took off in 2006, no health institution in Anambra State was duly accredited.

31. Anambra State was the first to undergo national peer review, which scrutinised State Governments for good governance, through the State Peer Review Mechanism (SPRM), an initiative of the Nigerian Governors’ Forum in collaboration with the DFID.

As ICPC discovers FG’s N9.8 billion hidden in ASO Savings

The House of Representatives yesterday, said it has discovered N21 billion and $104.46 million undeclared revenue in two separate accounts outside the Treasury Single Account (TSA).

The chairman, Ad-hoc Committee investigating the management, implementation and level of compliance with the Treasury Single Account (TSA) , Abubakar Danburam, stated this while briefing journalists in Abuja.

Consequently, Danburam said the Managing Director of Heritage Bank, Ifie Sekibo, and his counterpart in Aso Savings, Hassan Usman, have been summoned to appear before the committee over the discovery.

He said the secretariat of the ad-hoc committee has been directed to write the affected bank chiefs to appear on a date to be announced later, failure of which arrest warrant will be issued against them.

“Today, we are supposed to meet with Heritage Bank and Aso Savings with regard to the Treasury Single Account (TSA).

As you can see, none of their management or staff is here. Our independent investigations have revealed that contrary to what Heritage Bank submitted to us, they also have two undisclosed accounts in the TSA.

“The one with Nigerian Export and Import (NEXIM) Bank has $104 million, while a second one with Nigerian Maritime Administration Safety Agency (NIMASA) has $46,000. Yet, there is another N21 billion, which also forms part of our enquiry. We want to know why they did not reveal those accounts to this Committee.

“We hereby give the Managing Directors of Heritage Bank and Aso Savings the opportunity to appear before this committee at a date to be announced later. If they fail, we will then issue a warrant of arrest against them.”

Meanwhile, the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has discovered the sum of N9.8 billion secretly kept in Aso Savings.

Investigations by the commission revealed that the amount was the proceeds from the sale of Federal Government properties in the Federal Capital Territory between 2010 and 2014.

Spokesperson of the Commission, Mrs Rasheedat Okoduwa, disclosed that the discovery was made while investigating allegations contained in a petition against the activities of the Ad-hoc Committee set up in 2005 on the sales.

Investigators, according to her unearthed that the money which was deposited in Aso Savings and Loans Plc was not remitted to the federal treasury by the financial institution rather, it was used it.

The management of the bank she explained confirmed received the money, but that the bank is currently experiencing paucity of funds, therefore it is willing to swap some of its properties located in Abuja and Lagos in exchange for the unremitted funds.

“But the Commission is committed to the recovery of the full value of the unremitted N9.8 Billion by taking the properties offered in lieu for government, subject to satisfactory valuation by the Ministry of Power, Works and Housing.

“Upon conclusion of investigation, anyone found in breach of the law will be brought to book accordingly,” she added.

Apart from the discovery of the unremitting fund, investigation of the Ad-hoc committee’s work also uncovered that some persons who were allocated government properties made only part payments.

On this, ICPC stated that it had recovered N20, 662,250 from the affected persons in bank drafts which it handed over to the Chairman of the Ad-hoc Committee between December 2017 and May 2018.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has said that there is no going back on its decision to bar the All Progressives Congress (APC) from fielding candidates for the 2019 general elections in Zamfara State.

INEC’s stand came just as the ruling party which appeared ruffled by the likely fate that may befall it in the 2019 elections in Zamfara State is making frantic effort to sort out things.

The commission through its Director of Publicity and Voter Education, Mr. Osaze Uzzi, said it had not changed its position despite the protestation by the APC.
Speaking to THISDAY on telephone yesterday, Uzzi, who was on his way back to Abuja from a trip, said he could not confirm if the APC’s letter had been received or not.
When asked if the commission has changed its position based on the letter from APC, Uzzi said, “I don’t know whether it has been received or not but either, we still stand by our earlier position.”

INEC had on Monday declared APC ineligible to field candidates for all elective positions in Zamfara State in the 2019 election on the basis that it did not hold primaries in the state before the expiration of the stipulated deadline.

The position of INEC was contained in a leaked letter to the APC National Chairman, Mr. Adams Oshiomhole, on Tuesday.

However, the party on Wednesday, replied INEC, claiming that primary elections actually took place in Zamfara State.

In the letter dated October 10th and signed by Oshiomhole, the party said INEC did not capture the true situation of the APC primaries in Zamfara State.

In the INEC’s letter titled, “Failure to conduct party primaries in Zamfara State within the stipulated time-frame,” the commission said APC failed to conduct its primary elections in Zamfara within the stipulated time-frame”.

In its submissions to INEC, APC said, “The contents of your letter seem to conclude that no primaries were conducted by the APC in Zamfara State. We wish to state emphatically that nothing can be farther from the actual situation in Zamfara State”.

Meanwhile, APC has intensified efforts to get INEC to reverse its position on the Zamfara State primary elections.

THISDAY gathered that apart from its letter to the commission, the party is also hoping to go ahead to submit names of candidates for the state.

A party source told THISDAY yesterday that the party is picking holes on the letter, which it said did not emanate from the Chairman’s office or that of Secretary to the commission.

It said that the party is insisting that as a political party it reserves the sole right to decide who its candidates for an election will be.

A picture has emerged showing the confrontation between Shiite Muslims and police officers during a recent protest in Abuja. An officer who was among other policemen stationed to monitor the protesters, confronted the protesters and dared to shoot them if they came any closer.  

The police officer was 'stopped' by his colleague who urged him to put down his rifle which was already pointed at the protesters. 

The Shiite Muslims have continued to hold series of protest in Abuja and across Nigeria - demanding the release of their leader, Ibrahim El-Zakzaky, who is currently in the custody of the Nigeria government.

Last week Thursday, the Shiite Muslims who locked down the Federal Ministry of Justice during a massive protest. 

Mr El-Zakzaky has remained in detention since he was arrested in December 2015, following a clampdown on his members by soldiers.

Police authorities in California, USA, have declared a Nigerian man wanted in connection with series of crimes. The suspect identified as Agboghidi Irabornehi, 24, has been declared wanted by the Fugitive Recovery Warrant Division in connection with armed robbery, carjacking, assault with a firearm.

According to a police statement, the suspect's last known location(s) are Moreno Valley, CA/ Calabasas, CA/ Pasadena, in California.

The police also offered a $25,000 (almost N9million) reward for anyone who will provide them with information that would lead to the arrest of the young man who has gone into hiding.

2019: PDP, Atiku can’t pass corruption, integrity tests – APC

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has maintained that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, lack the integrity to win the 2019 presidential election.

Reacting to the salvo the National Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Kola Ologbondiyan, fired at APC, which accused senior officials of the ruling party of “deliberate efforts to impugn on the character”, the APC argued that Atiku still have corruption indictments to grapple with.

The statement signed by the acting National Publicity Secretary of the APC, Yekini Nabena read, “There are no lies here. Atiku Abubakar grapples with several other corruption indictments. This is a fact and reality he needs to deal with and come clean about.

“The PDP cannot be simplistic and attempt to wish away the issue of the integrity of candidates seeking elections into positions at all levels, particularly as 2019 approaches.

“We reiterate our position that the Nigerian electorate must have that opportunity to choose from candidates that can pass the integrity and anti-corruption test.

“The character of office holders we elect into public offices is important as our very progress and development as a country depends on it.

“When the choice is to be made, the electorate have the option of a proven and decent presidential candidate who is putting the people first and on the other hand a racketeer who will readily mortgage the country commonwealth to personal coffers and cronies.

“A spokesperson for the PDP, Kola Ologbondiyan released a statement accusing the senior officials of the APC-led administration of ‘deliberate efforts impugn on the character’ of the PDP presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar.

“The PDP’s assertion particularly coming from its spokesperson is ironic and laughable, given the fact that Kola Ologbondiyan as an editor with one of the national newspapers in fact unearthed the Special Audit/Forensic Investigation of Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF) which indicted Atiku Abubakar, then Vice President for the mismanagement of the Fund.

“The PDP spokesperson in his published report disclosed that from 1999 to 2006, Atiku’s approval for the release of $20 million from the treasury and subsequent placement in Trans International Bank without appropriation and approval by the Federal Executive Council (FEC) was illegal and amounted to abuse of office.”

The Senator representing Kogi West in the National Assembly, Dino Melaye, on Friday raised alarm over an alleged assassination attempt on his life.


Melaye alleged that the Aide-De-Camp to the state Governor, Yahaya Bello mobilized some police officers from the Mopol unit to assassinate him.

In a tweet, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, lawmaker claimed that Yahaya’s ADC and the police officers stormed his residence in his country home in Aiyetoro Gbede at about 1 a.m.


Disclosing that he has evidence of their invasion, Melaye vowed to drag them to the United Nations, UN, and International Criminal Court of Justice.

He tweeted, “Two i/c mopol, OC SARS and 2 1/c SARS and 3 full load of policemen illegally arranged by ADC to Kogi State Governor came to my country home in Aiyetoro Gbede to possibly assassinate me at 1am. I have profound evidence of this. I will take them up on this. I will write the UN and ICC.”

2 Men rape 9-month-old baby

Two men from Tennessee, U.S., accused of raping a 9-month-old girl and filming the attack were indicted Tuesday on multiple charges.

Isiah Dequan Hayes, 19, and Daireus Jumare Ice, 22, are both charged with aggravated rape of a child and aggravated sexual exploitation of a minor, FOX13 Memphis reported.

The alleged attack was reported to police in October 2016 after the girl’s mother reported finding a cellphone video allegedly showing Hayes performing a sexual act on the baby.

She was able to identify Hayes through Facebook and turned the information over to police, authorities said.

Prosecutors said Ice filmed the video.

Police identified Hayes and arrested him in February. Authorities said he admitted to committing the sexual assault.

Both men were being held in the Shelby County jail.

Oil prices slumped to more than two-week lows yesterday, as global stock markets fell, with investor sentiment made more bearish by the United States government data that showed domestic crude inventories rose more than expected last week.

Udeme, a former Chairman of Ibiono Ibom Local Government Area blamed the mass exit on "the Governor's maltreatment of the aides and blatant show of unserious attitude towards matters of genuine development of the people of the state."

He said most of the remaining aides have decided to go after suffering in silence for more than three years.

He said having done a thorough assessment of the political situation in the state as the Governor's Special Assistant on Electoral Matters, he has found out that Governor Emmanuel lacked the electoral value needed to win a second term.

“Because we have put a lot of money there, where we find out that something wrong has been done, I can assure you that people will be held responsible.”

Kuru said AMCON, established in 2010 to buy bad debts, had set a 2023 deadline to dissolve its operations, even as it is still struggling to recover non-performing loans.
