Aisha Alhassan, former Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development and the governorship candidate of the United Democratic Party (UDP) in Taraba State, says she is confident of victory in 2019 general elections with her new platform.

Mrs Alhassan, a former senator, expressed the optimism on Wednesday in Abuja when she visited the UDP national secretariat with UDP Taraba State Executive to submit the state’s report to the party’s National Chairman, Godson Okoye.

She said it was not the name of political party that mattered in winning elections but the structure and followership in any election.

Mrs Alhassan, a.k.a. “Mama Taraba’’, as well as her counterpart, the former Minister of Communications, Adebayo Shittu, were disqualified by the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship election Screening Committee before the just concluded primaries of the party.

She said she now had more followers in UDP than she had before because of the injustice that was done to her by APC, saying what APC did had turned out to be a blessing.

“APC is just like a platform like any other political party, you can win election on any platform as long as you have people from the grassroots and you have the structure.

“It is just the name of our platform that is changed. As far as we are concerned, the followership is still intact. In fact we have more followership now.

“Because of the injustice done to me by the APC, we have a lot of sympathies now.

“The request for the UDP membership card now is overwhelming. I have told them to get a big hardcover note book and just be writing the names.

“So far we have printed 120, 000 membership cards within two weeks. People are still asking for more.’’

She assured the party leadership that there was nothing to be afraid of about the coming elections in Taraba, saying UDP is well rooted.

Mrs Alhassan said all her followers, supporters and key stakeholders left the APC to join her in UDP.

“All of us that nurtured the APC to where it was two weeks ago when we moved, completely left the party to the UDP.

“The executives and all that matter moved. The party has no structure any longer in Taraba.’’

The former minister said that if elected governor, she would promote peaceful co-existence among the people, just leadership and adequate security, saying without peace and security there would be no development.

Mrs Alhassan was accompanied by the party’s state officials and the 2019 general elections’ candidates in the state as well as a serving member of the Taraba State House of Assembly, Nura Danyoho.

Mr Okoye described Mrs Alhassan as a seasoned politician loved by people of her state and Nigerians.

He pledged that the party would work for the victory of Mrs Alhassan and its entire candidates across the country in 2019.

Mr Okoye said Mrs Alhassan could have been the governors of Taraba in 2015, adding maybe it was not her time then.

“We believe that this time God will grant her victory because we believe in the superiority of God that it is her time.’’

Donatus Ozoemena, UPD governorship candidate, Enugu State, also said he did not believe that diversity was the major problem of Nigeria.

Mr Ozoemena, a clergyman, said the U.S. was made up of people from different cultures and beliefs, yet they were still united.

“I came back home from U.S. with the belief that even though they say America is the greatest country on earth, Nigeria has more resources and more intellectuals that can beat U.S.

“I don’t believe that division is the major cause of the problem we are going through.’’

Mr Ozoemena also said UDP had strong structure to win Enugu governorship election.

Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Atiku Abubakar has expressed excitement on the outcome of his meeting with former President, Olusegun Obasanjo.

Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in the 2019 general elections, Atiku Abubakar , said both President Muhammadu Buhari and the ruling All Progressives Congress had described him as an exemplary Nigerian on many occasions.

He said he was surprised that since he emerged as the presidential candidate of the PDP, the Presidency , the Buhari Campaign Organisation and the APC had been attacking and hurling insults at him.

Atiku, in a statement from his media office in Abuja on Thursday , said he was surprised that the President and the Presidency could eat their words.

The statement said , “ Ever since he (Atiku ) emerged , the Presidency , the Buhari Campaign Organisation and the All Progressives Congress have taken up the uncultured habit of hurling insults and casting aspersions on the Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party , His Excellency , Atiku Abubakar .

“ It is rather unfortunate that because they have no record of performance, these institutions would rather run an ad hominem campaign . ”

The statement reminded them of their past praise and validation of Atiku and asked them what has changed between then and now .

The statement added , “ On December 21, 2014 , the All Progressives Congress issued a statement describing Atiku as a ‘ special gift’ and ‘ an asset . ’

“ Today , the same party is hurling invective on the man they once celebrated as an exemplary citizen . Is this two -faced attitude the type of example they want to give to Nigerians?

The Federal High Court in Abuja on Thursday upheld the validity of the Presidential Executive Order 6 of 2018 which provides for the interim seizure of assets linked to ongoing criminal trials and investigations.

President Muhammadu Buhari had on July 5, 2018, issued the Presidential Executive Order, which two lawyers, Ikenga Ugochinyere and Mr. Keneth Udeze, had instituted a suit before the court to challenge its validity.



Delivering judgment on Thursday, Justice Ijeoma Ojukwu dismissed the suit for lacking in merit and affirmed that the President has the constitutional powers to issue the PEO as long as it does not encroach into the principles of separation of powers.

She ruled that the PEO was issued as a policy directive for the implementation of provisions of existing laws, adding that it also recognised the right of every citizen to approach the court for redress if aggrieved by enforcement of the PEO.

She also held that the interim forfeiture of assets linked to various offences or ongoing criminal investigations could only be enforced in line with the provisions of the law and did not amount to an infringement of the rights of the affected person, who also has the right to approach the court to seek redress.

While reiterating that the PEO must be implemented in accordance to the principles of the rule of law, she added that the coordinating role imposed on the Attorney-General of the Federation by the PEO was subject to section 174 of the Constitution and must be predicated of the existence of facts.

The PEO which designates the AGF as the coordinating authority directs him to “at all times in this connection, employ all available lawful means, including seeking appropriate order(s) of court where necessary, and ensure that assets shall not be transferred, withdrawn, or dealt with in any way until the final determination by a court of competent jurisdiction of any corruption-related matter against such person.”

AN Abuja High Court on Wednesday recognized Senator Hope Uzodinma as the candidate of the party for the 2019 Imo governorship election.

The court, which was presided over by Justice O.A Musa said that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) must also recognize only Uzodinma as the governorship candidate in the 2019 election.

Justice O. A. Musa who gave the restraining order on Tuesday, also restrained INEC (2nd Respondent) in the case from processing or publishing the “name of any other person other than Senator Hope Uzodimma from the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the gubernatorial candidate for Imo State Governorship election for 2019” pending the determination of the substantive suit on the matter.

Uzodimma through his lawyer, Joe Agi (SAN) had approached the court seeking an order to restrain the All Progressives Congress (APC) from conducting a fresh or re-conducting another primary for the Imo State Gubernatorial primaries and INEC from monitoring or purporting to monitor any fresh primaries or re-conducted primaries by the APC in Imo State Gubernatorial Election pending the hearing and determination of the motion on notice before the Court.

Other reliefs sought by Senator Hope Uzodimma include:

An order directing the APC to forward his name (Uzodimma) to INEC as the Gubernatorial Candidate for Imo State Governorship Election for 2019.

An order restraining INEC from continuing to process or publish any other person’s name except the name Senator Hope Uzodimma; and an order for accelerated hearing on the matter.

In his affidavit in support of the motion exparte, the claimant (Uzodimma) averred that he was declared the winner of the Imo State APC gubernatorial primaries which were conducted on October 1, 2018, but shortly after he was declared the winner, “the National Chairman of the APC issued a press statement on the 3rd October 2018 purporting to cancel the primaries and re-conducting a fresh one.”

He added that none of the contestants in the election protested the result as declared by the returning officer “but rather six out of the nine contestants (Aspirants) confirmed that the primaries held and were free and fair.”

The Plaintiff noted in its affidavit that noted that the electoral guidelines do not give the National Chairman of the APC or the National Working Committee (NWC) to interfere with the electoral process; and that “out of the nine contestants (Aspirants) six agreed that there was an election and I (Uzodimma) won.”

He further averred that in the absence of an appeal, no organ of the party can cancel the result of primaries. He said failure of the Court to grant the order, “irreparable damage will be done to me.”

The Court has fixed October 16, 2018, for definite hearing of the matter.

It would be recalled that five of the governorship aspirants declared support for Senator Hope Uzodinma as winner of the Imo State governorship primaries conducted on Oct. 1 by the Ahmed Gulak Election Committee.

The General Overseer of the Living Faith Church, Bishop David Oyedepo, has arrived the residence of former president, Olusegun Obasanjo, in Abeokuta, the Ogun state capital.

Oyedepo’s visit comes while Obasanjo is in a meeting with his former Vice, Atiku Abubakar.

But it is not certain if both visits are connected.

DAILY POST reports that the meeting is being held at the residence of the ex-president within the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library (OOPL), Abeokuta.

BACKGROUND

Atiku had on Sunday emerged the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party.
Mr. Obasanjo had on August 3 exclusively told PREMIUM TIMES the former vice president should not count on him for support in his  bid to actualise his life-long ambition of being elected president of Nigeria.

“How can I be on the same side with Atiku?” he asked. “To do what?”
“If I support Atiku for anything, God will not forgive me. If I do not know, yes. But once I know, Atiku can never enjoy my support,” he added.
Mr Obasanjo said his remarks should not be interpreted to mean a personal battle with Atiku, coming as 2019 presidential campaign gathers steam with Mr Abubakar amongst the front-runners.
“I do not have personal grudges with anyone,” Mr Obasanjo said. “If you do not do well for Nigeria, you do not do well for all of us.”
“It is not a question of working with or not working with an individual,” he said. “If you are working for the good of Nigeria, I am working with you. If you are not working for the good of Nigeria it does not matter who you are I am not working with you.
“Most of you do not understand the way I operate. And I thought your own paper (PREMIUM TIMES) will understand better.”
“I know Atiku very well. And I have mentioned my position with Atiku. My position has not changed.
“If my children are getting married, he has sent representatives. If his children are getting married, I have sent representatives. That is social. That is not political.
“But on political ground, my position has not changed. If I support Atiku for a political office other than the one I supported him in the past when I did not know him, maybe, but not now that I know him, God will not forgive me.”
That comment created the impression that Mr Obasanjo was not ready to soften his borderline disposition to his former vice president of eight years.
After the former president said he would not support President Muhammadu Buhari for a second term, there was widespread speculation that he would back anyone presented as the major challenger, even if this turned out to be Atiku.
The Yoruba socio-political group, Afenifere, had visited Mr. Obasanjo earlier this week to plead with him to meet with Atiku and possibly back him for president in the coming election.

The outgoing Governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose , has accused the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission of shopping for evidence to nail him .

He alleged that the anti - graft agency had started coercing witnesses to implicate him in order to file a trump - up charge against him upon the expiration of his tenure on October 15.

Specifically, Fayose in an October 10 letter addressed to the Acting Chairman of the EFCC, Ibrahim Magu , and sighted by our correspondent , alleged that the commission had invited one Maroun Mecheleb in order to mount pressure on him so as to make a false statement to implicate him .

The letter entitled , “ Stop coercing witnesses ”, read, “ I have always been made to know that the statutory functions and powers of your Commission are neither to persecute nor compromise the integrity of your Commission.

“ Permit me to stress that, a situation where a prospective witness is being induced or coerced to change his earlier statement by the operatives of the Commission is nothing but persecution.

“ Therefore, it is important to bring to your notice that I am aware of your desperate efforts in the last 48 hours to procure evidence by hook or crook to ‘ nail ’ me . ”

The governor said the intention of the agency was to concoct charges against him .

He added , “Specifically, I know as a fact that your Commission has been doing everything possible to induce and or coerce Mr Maroun Azeez Mecheleb Sam to make false statement to implicate me (when he appears in your office at noon today 11/ 10/ 2018) as a foundation for you to concoct trumped up charges against me notwithstanding the fact that the said Mr . Maroun who only returned to Nigeria in the last three weeks had earlier made two statements in Charge No . FRN vs . Abiodun Agbele and Ors .

A Peruvian man has divorced his wife after spotting her cheating with another man on Google Street View in Peru.

The speaker and his loyalists are said to be poised to change the composition of the body of principal officers to conform to his support base in the House as it moves towards the 2019 general elections.

Currently, the APC has 190 members while PDP has 157, APGA has 5 members, ADC has 4 members, SDP has one member while Accord Party has one member.

However, there are two vacant seats resulting from the death of Buba Jubrin (APC, Kogi) and Funke Adedoyin (PDP, Kwara).

Sources close to the PDP caucus who spoke on condition of anonymity observed that some of the APC lawmakers appointed as principal officers may lose their seats in the wake of the impeachment plot as the speaker moves to strengthen his camp.

Findings revealed that some ranking members of the APC are already jostling for the caucus’s leadership position currently occupied by Femi Gbajabiamila (APC, Lagos).

Recall that Yakubu Dogara, in 2015, beat Gbajabiamila to the highly coveted position of speaker despite the insistence by the APC leadership that he step down for the former.

But having emerged speaker despite the party’s position, Dogara insisted on installing his loyalists into the body of principal officers, further infuriating the party’s leadership, including President Muhammadu Buhari, who waded into the matter and insisted that the party be obeyed.

But given the new turn of events, lawmakers who spoke to our correspondent on condition of anonymity said a list of members believed to be working against the speaker was being compiled for possible referral to the Ethics and Privileges Committee for necessary action.

While answering questions regarding Speaker Dogara’s defection and what was next for the APC caucus, Mohammed Tahir Mungonu (APC, Borno), who expressed the willingness of the caucus to move for Dogara’s impeachment, however, admitted that impeaching the speaker remained an uphill task.

Monguno noted that Speaker Dogara, who recently decamped to the PDP, could only be impeached if the APC caucus could muster the 240 members required by the 1999 constitution (as amended).

“The parliamentary conventions and norms is that the majority party produces the leadership of the parliament except Nigeria will be an exception. My only advice is for the Senate President and the Speaker of the House of Representatives to honourably resign their positions since they are now members of the minority party.

“In consonance with best democratic norms and values obtainable all over the world, based on the moral situation but with regards to the constitution, we need two-third to remove them and if the APC can muster that two-third majority, I wish APC members good luck,” he noted.

Mungonu, however, argued that the positions occupied by opposition members as presiding officers of both chambers will directly impact on the legislative business and policy direction of the APC-led government.

“It’s going to definitely disrupt legislative business because they are not members of the ruling party, so the manifesto as well as the programme of the party they belong to is directly in conflict with the programme and objectives of the ruling and majority party of the National Assembly. Therefore, there is going to be conflict of interest in the way and manner they are going to pursue the agenda of the party in government.

“And I think it may likely lead to sabotage. So, if we are sure that we are going to muster the two-third majority, we are going to count ourselves, definitely we are going to move ahead and then remove the speaker. But if we cannot get the two-third majority, there is no need to embark on an exercise in futility,” he said.

Also lending his voice to the debate, Sergius Ogun (PDP, Edo), who applauded the emergence of Atiku Abubakar as the PDP presidential candidate in the 2019 general elections, expressed optimism that APC couldn’t muster the required 240 members to unseat the speaker.

While reacting to the alleged impeachment plot, Ogun, who doubles as chairman, House Committee on FCT, told our correspondent that: “If they follow the constitution, they don’t have the firm, no party has the firm, to produce any speaker right now, and we were elected by Nigerians to come and represent them.

“If we want to follow the business of representing our people, that will be the last thing on the mind of anybody right now. So, he (Dogara) remains the speaker till the expiration of the 8th National Assembly.”

Multiple contractors who spoke with DAILY NIGERIAN on the condition of anonymity said the governor personally receives from 15 to 25 percent kickbacks for every project executed in the state.



Sources familiar with the situation said two agencies have been asked by President Muhammadu Buhari to file a report and submit to him in earnest.

The report, according to sources, involves analysis on the audiovisual contents of the clips, backgrounds and sequence, and then give recommendations to the president.

Credible sources in the presidency told DAILY NIGERIAN that the president would act on the report as soon the two agencies submit the report.

“The video was first shown to Mr President on a large TV screen. The president was bitter after watching the clips.

“I believe he will deal with the matter as soon as possible,” the source disclosed.
Plot to remove the governor, who is gunning for his second term on the platform of ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, thickens by the day as the President explores all the options available.

Pundits familiar with the situation say the State House of Assembly will easily bow to the presidency’s request for impeachment upon release of the videos.

It was gathered that the devastated governor is currently planning to suppress the release of the video through various means.

“The governor is in danger. He is still in Abuja searching for a way out. His plan to settle at least 3 people who possess the clip has also failed. The governor is now planning how to hire fake activists and engage in a media war to discountenance the videos,” a source who preferred not to be named told our reporter.



The source also said there is also plan to attack DAILY NIGERIAN publisher, Jaafar Jaafar, for his refusal to trade off the video.

Recall that this newspaper had exclusively reported that a Nigerian governor from one of the North West states was caught on spy camera receiving kickbacks in hard currency for various projects executed by his administration.

In the three-episode clips seen by DAILY NIGERIAN reporter, the governor was shown on different dates receiving the bribe amounting to about 5 million dollars in total.

In one of the clips, this reporter watched how the governor, who appeared without a cap, took note of the names of contractors who paid the kickback and later tucked the bundles of dollar notes into his kaftan side pockets and trousers’ pockets.



In another video, appearing in babbarriga and a cap, this reporter watched how the governor collected nearly 3 million dollars, being 25 percent kickbacks for selling market stalls.

DAILY NIGERIAN graphics expert, who was also invited to a secret meeting to ascertain whether the videos were genuine, confirmed that they were not doctored.

A representative from a reputable international anti-corruption agency, who was also furnished with the clips for authentication, confirmed that it was genuine.

“Going by the analysis we made on conversation and the graphics, we concluded that the voice matched the subject matter’s voice and the images are unmistakably his,” the agency’s representative said.

Barring any last minute changes, Ogun State Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, and his loyalists in the All Progressives Congress (APC) will dump the ruling party.

Their imminent exit from the APC was as a result of the alleged refusal of the party’s national leadership to uphold the candidacy of the governor’s preferred candidate, Adekunle Akinlade, for the 2019 governorship election.

A meeting preparatory to Amosun’s defection was held on Wednesday night at his private residence located at Ibara GRA, Abeokuta.

In attendance at the meeting were APC members from the 20 local government areas of the state, who were loyal to the governor, as well as top government functionaries in the state.

The state chapter of APC had been engulfed in crisis following the adoption of an oil magnate, Prince Dapo Abiodun, as the party’s gubernatorial candidate for 2019 as against Amosun’s choice.

A highly placed source, who was present at the meeting on Wednesday night, confirmed the plan to pull out of the APC.

According to the source, Amosun briefed his loyalists on the outcome of his meetings with President Muhammadu Buhari as well as the APC National Chairman, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, which were not favourable.

The source said the governor informed his loyalists that rather than address the pending issue, the party leadership in Abuja asked him to share the National and State Assembly tickets with certain individuals in the state who never participated in the just concluded governorship and legislative primaries.

The governor was said to have berated those who manipulated the primary election to produce Abiodun as against the consensus governorship candidate of the party, Akinlade.

Amosun, the source added, made it clear that he could not work with Abiodun because he lacked the wherewithal to win elections.

According to him, Abiodun who could not win a senatorial district election in 2015 will be unable to win the whole of Ogun State in 2019.

The governor was said to have maintained his stance that he would bid APC goodbye rather than accept Abiodun’s candidacy.

He, however, did not disclose the particular political party he and his loyalists would consider.

Asked about the growing speculation that the governor is likely to defect to Accord Party, the source insisted that the governor was silent on his choice but only declared that his next sanctuary would not be the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The Senate yesterday approved the sum of N189,207,544,893 as budgetary allocation to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for the conduct of the 2019 general election.

The chairman, Senate Committee on Appropriation, Senator Danjuma Goje, announced this yesterday during a meeting on the submission of harmonised report of INEC 2019 general election supplementary budget estimates.

The Senate committee will lay the harmonised INEC budget report at plenary today (Thursday).

Goje explained that INEC was allocated the sum of N143,512,529,455 as recommended by President Muhammadu Buhari for the 2019 general election expenditure as amount needed for 2018, while the balance of N45,695,015,438 was requested for appropriation under 2019 budget.

LEADERSHIP recalls that President Muhammadu Buhari had on 11th July, 2018, requested from the Senate an approval of the total sum of N242,445,322,600.00 to fund the 2019 general election.

Buhari’s request was contained in a letter addressed to the National Assembly which was read by the president of the Senate, Bukola Saraki.

Buhari had explained that out of a total of N242,445,322,600.00 requested to fund the 2019 general election, the sum of N164,104,792,065.00 was to be sourced through virement in the 2018 budget, while the remaining balance of N78,340,530,535.00 was to be provided for in the 2019 budget.

Specifically, Buhari stated that INEC would be allocated N189,207,544,893.00; Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA), N4,281,500,000.00; Department of State Services (DSS); N12,213,282,455.00; Civil Defence, N3,573,534,500.00; Nigeria Police Force, N30,541,317,432.00, and Nigeria Immigration Service, N2,628,143,320.00.

However, the federal lawmakers had proceeded on annual recess from July and was unable to consider and approve the supplementary budget.

Yesterday, a new letter by Buhari to the Senate seeking approval for funding of the 2019 elections with the sum of N242,445,322,600 was read by Senate President Bukola Saraki in plenary.

The President, in the letter dated September 19, 2018, said: “You may recall that in my letter dated 11th July, 20189 I requested for the kind consideration of the National Assembly for a virement under the 2018 appropriation Act.

Part of this request was for the funding of the requests made by INEC and security agencies for the 2019 general elections.

“When the minister of Budget and National Planning, Senator Udoma Udo Udoma, appeared before the joint committee of the NASS set up to consider my request, he was informed that the NASS would be writing to consider accommodating the total amount required for funding of the 2019 elections as part of the virements of the 2018 Appropriation Act, provided there was a specific request made by me.

“In the light of the current realities, and in order to ensure that the 2019 general elections are not affected by any delays in the passage into law of the 2019 Budget, I accept this kind suggest. I therefore wish to formally request that total amount of N242,445,322,600.00 requested by INEC and the security agencies be considered for inclusion in my virement request under the 2018 Appropriation Act.”

Meanwhile, the Senate committee on appropriation yesterday invited the inspector-general of police, the national security adviser (NSA), the DG of DSS, comptroller-general of Nigeria Immigration Service, and the commandant-general of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps to appear before it today.

While making the announcement, Senator Goje said the agencies were invited to come and defend their various budgetary allocations.

There are strong indications that some lawmakers may work against the ratification of INEC budget when it would finally be presented in plenary today by the appropriation committee.

A lady gave bystanders an eyeful during a fight in public with another lady. The ladies engaged each other in an embarrassing show after deciding to wash their dirty linen in public (literally). 

The cause of their quarrel was not revealed but lady on pink top appeared to have started the fight after slapping her colleague following an argument, according to a footage posted online. 

The lady in blue tried not to fight till the other lady (in pink) removed her wrapper and showed off her unclothedness. This angered her as she reacted with series of punch.

She knocked out her rival who laid motionless on the ground after climbing on her during the fight.

A man identified as Tunde Williams-Funmilayo has taken to his Facebook to narrate on how he escaped death in the hands of his security guard just a year ago.

According to the man, the guard entered into his room with the intent to kill him and inflicted a deep machete cut in his head while they struggled. But in what seemed to be a miracle, he is still alive to tell the story.

And so it was at about 5 am on this day at this hour on the 10th of October last year ... I was suddenly awoken by the door of my room opening. this was in the farm bungalow in Ibadan.
Standing inside my room by the door was Jonathan, my security guard! I was alarmed and shouted, what do you want ? to which he replied .you called me.

I said get out I didn't call you unknown to me at that time he had a knife in his hand. then he rapidly approached the bed shouting sebi you are going to London tomorrow.
I knew I was in trouble but could not make any sense of it. being not naturally violent,.attack mode did not kick in.

Why because Jonathan was my like a brother whom I asked to come to sleep on a mattress in my dining room on the farm after I discovered his guard house was leaking and the floor mat was cold. we eat the same food made by my cook and used the same plates and cutlery. gave him suya and old clothes just the night before and took him church with me branching at a Buka after church normally. had asked him to bring another friend to join him as he was bored at the weekends.

so you can imagine my thinking. what's going on ? has he gone mad? I had still not seen the knife maybe my eyes would have cleared!
I got up swiftly as he approached and covered his head with my blanket, pinning his hands beside him . then proceeded to push him backwards out of my room along the corridor towards the main living room . all the while trying to figure out what's wrong.

I felt my heart starting to race as I was going into panic, but had the presence of mind to regulate my breathing so my reasoning would not be impaired .
at this point, I pushed him through a set of louvre windows. only to reveal the other guard waiting with a machete, I had completely forgotten about him.

I was cornered my brain still looking for answers against attack or even defence... with hindsight, I imagined some bruce lee moves I could have done. but then I sought to connect with him eyeball to eyeball. I looked in his eyes asking and pleading. there was no human being there! only a demon I now knew I was going to die! I could see my staff coming in the morning and my dead body found. I could see it!

but something in me rose up and said no not today speaking in tongues since under my breath I began to quote, the scriptures, despite once being a house pastor the only scripture I remembered was "I shall not die but live to declare the glory of the lord in the land of the living ,this constantly being augmented with tounges .

Of course I am trying to make light of the situation now but I was terrified, petrified and even remember begging that my children were waiting for me in two days. with his arms, raised still, cornered I knew there nothing else to do. strangely I was more worried about the knife than the Matchette. even my tongues had ceased! so I mustered up my faith and said HOLY SPIRIT PLS TAKE OVER.

THAT was the last sentence before he brought down the machete, I saw stars and launched forward pushing him back as I made an escape for the front door,. I was out !running and screaming but no sound, well I thought I was running only for police to find my bloody hand stains along the vehicle as I tried to support my self,
anyway, I like the running version like the films. so I turned a corner and down I went, face first, later realising my left side was paralysed.

I remember being aware of a bamboo stake beside me which I wanted to grab and swing towards my pursuers. but alas I could not move! I tried so hard my brain, what was left of it still frantically thinking in crises mode of what to do and why I could not move.

then I DIED... what I didn't know then was what seemed like five minutes to me before I woke up, apparently was an hour. with rain pouring into my now open skull, brain exposed on the sandy ground.

I didn't know when the pursers went over me or why they did not finish me off. it was later revealed to me that an angel of God took over the area. covered my head with his wings and somehow made these guys just walk by me! these are people who knew I could identify them!
anyway, I am still dead, and sorry guys I didn't see any lights and tunnels of vision of heaven... for those of you who like jist!

I just recall getting up and running! even Lazarus didn't run! I ran for the gate and reached my neighbour's gate my dearest pastor and truest friend pastor Alex who has stood in the gap for me for two decades.

On seeing me and my state the silly gateman won't let me in till he got the pastor to say so. while waiting he went to the security toilet got a bucket, filled it with water and uncountable microbes and proceeded to pour this over this same head!

I DIED again! this time i heard a voice! en enh abi ! it was my pastor's voice while driving me to UCH! he kept saying . hold on my boy! just hold on! At this point, I said my last prayers, made my peace with God and asked him to take care of my children.

Anyway, we got turned back at UCH gate because they were on strike, we made it to new covenant hospital where the young doctor - upon sighting me - locked himself in his office, refusing to come out.

A wonderful brother doctor from our church - The Stone Church - and a most caring nurse also from our church had arrived to take over. They stitched me up as best as they could and infused me with three bags of saline water.

True to my controlling nature, I tried to push them off because of the pain, and even suggesting that two bottles of saline was okay! Then God showed up, and the strike was called off that same morning, and we returned to UCH.

The Holy Book says that a man's enemy would be that of his own household. I was beginning to understand. Ti iku ile o ba pani ti ode o le pani ... my scales began to fall. My dearest sister Taiwo had arrived from Lagos, waltzing into the emergency ward like a grand lady but, upon seeing my state subsequently broke down crying and wailing like a baby.

I called for the attending trauma surgeon hopefully asking if the CT revealed a mere subdural haematoma. He looked at me sadly, shook his head and said you have intracranial haematoma with embedded bone fragments, the largest fragment looking like a hook, which worried him. At this point, overheard another doctor friend asking quietly, if I would make it.

The prognosis was bad, even if I made it not as a fully functional human being. I had sustained a TBI and for those in the know, the list of consequences was long my brain recalled a few my heart sank. Looking around the operation theatre, I was faced with blue, glossy walls and an ancient, large, circular theatre lights from horror movies.

I tried to psychoanalyse the competence of the doctors, even from the manner of clothing and few other indices... body language etc hoping they were "efficos" in medical school. I informed the lead surgeon, that I have a history of sleep apnea and that I may cease breathing periodically and that he shouldn't presume me dead o. then, the scripture came to my heart.

"The name of the lord is a strong tower, and those who run into it are safe." I committed the surgeon's hands into Gods care. I looked around one last time and again asked the Holy Spirit to take over. he did for eleven hours!

I heard of unconfirmed reports of bone fragment coming out to the table... When I came to, I didn't hear the host of angels singing the Hallelujah chorus as I expected, but instead, black nurses speaking Yoruba!, then I knew that mercy had triumphed over judgement.

The nurses tried to find out if I was coherent and aware of my surroundings. I stated the date, my name and even the particular unit I was in UCH and proceeded to fight them over a dirty weeing bottle offered to me, which was just used by a patient next to me whom I remembered from the A & E who was being queried for hepatitis.

At that point, I was sure that not only was i alive, i had not lost my stubbornness and desire to control, I must be alive. But the downside was, my left hand was completely paralysed. Otherwise, I was completely functional.

I was overwhelmed by the number of wellwishers who besieged me in my private room much to the annoyance of the nurses, and the support and love they shared. . the doctors came to see me and called my recovery REMARKABLE.To cut the long story short, I had my birthday on the 13th in that ward.

God raised all kinds of people and help for which i will be eternally grateful. I must single out the angel with the white beard, Bayo Oguntona, who stood by me daily, volunteered to bring me back to Ireland as I could not get anyone to come for me. the excuse was not being "medically competent". anyway engineer Bayo paid our tickets, put a helmet on my head in the plane, and brought me back to Ireland., he stayed for a week helped me settled emotionally and financially and even fixed my leaking wash basin!

I thought the worst was over, how wrong I was. Upon my arrival, I was presented at the hospital with a O. Y .O simcard so i could have a contact number to give the hospital so i could be reached directly.

Ladies and Gentlemen, friends and neighbours, i stand here today, completely healed and restored by the grace and mercy of God. I have continued to see powerful works of restoration. My future is assured as the glory of the latter shall surpass the former.

I testify that God is real and good, and his mercies endureth forever. He has raised up a standard for me and prepareth a table for me in the mist of my enemies. With our own eyes, shall we behold, the reward of the wicked Come thank the Lord with me what the enemy planned or evil, the Lord has turned around for good. This is a miracle talking. As part of its commitment to accelerate the growth of the agriculture sector through increased support to farmers’ Farmcrowdy has expressed its preparedness to assist more farmers’ grows their income by over 80 per cent in its bid to scale up its operations.

Speaking recently during the visit to a poultry farm by Farmcrowdy team and farm sponsors in Abeokuta, the Chief Executive Officer, Farmcrowdy, Onyeka Akuma disclosed this.


Akuma explained that the farmcrowdy model was designed to ensure that the farmer is present when the buyer is buying.

“Transparency which is among some of the issues farmers suffers from, people just come and buy and pay them whatever they want to pay them,” he noted.

Akuma, further noted that in their transaction with the farmers, they ensure they are involved in the process.
He added that this was aimed at ensuring that farmers see the profit before the money gets into the account.
He remarked that the model allows them to provide farmers with technical know-how, and market access. Akuma said farmcrowdy would scale up its operations, find means to reach more farmers to grow their income by over 80 percent “annually that is our goal.”

In his remarks, one of the farm sponsors, Mr. Ajibola Oyekunle, said farmcrowding gives an investor return in time and full and the return is attractive.

He also stated that farmers were able to scale up from 2,500 to 20,000 chickens in less than a year. Oyekunle, also stated that in developing agriculture, government should help with enabling policies.

He added that it was not about government owning farms, but understanding what farmers need and providing policies to drive such.

Continuing, Akuma added: “People come to our website and they sponsor these farms, they are getting updates from the farmers. We decided that we want to show these people the farms, so we did these two weeks ago and we do it consistently. But the most recent one is two weeks ago, where we took sponsors to Kwara State to see our rice farms 2000 acres and meet the farmers, about eight hundred farmers.

“Here, we decided to do it again this week to show them the poultry farms and in showing them the poultry farm, all we have done is, you sponsor the farms on farmcrowdy, you come and see the farm hear from the farmers, see the work going on the farm and understand that beyond money you are making impacts in people lives.”

An unfortunate road accident claimed the lives of not less than eighteen (18) people yesterday Wednesday, 10th of October 2018 in Gombe state. 

The victims, residents of the same village of Jimin (Darazo Local Govt of Bauchi state), were on their way to attend a weekly market day of Dukku town of Gombe state before the fatal accident. 

Report has it that all the victims were married men, leaving behind various numbers of wives and children.

The corpse of the deceases have already been buried at the Darazo Cemetery in accordance with the Islamic injunctions.

RHAPSODY OF REALITIES

THURSDAY, 11TH OCTOBER.

HE’S PERFECT IN ALL HIS WAYS.

The Lord is righteous in all his ways, and holy in all his works (Psalm 145:17).

As Christians, oftentimes we’re faced with tough challenges; things happen to us and around us that aren’t consistent with our desires, expectations and the will of God for our lives. It may be the loss of a loved one, in spite of your prayers and intercessions, and the situation is causing you serious distraction in your Christian walk.

Now the enemy is throwing thoughts at you; you even think God just wasn’t fair to you or to the victim. In your mind, you hold Him responsible for what happened; you’re thinking, “He could have done something, but He didn’t, despite all my prayers.” But the question you need to answer is, “Who is Jesus to you?” Is it possible for Him to be charged with error? Could He ever make a mistake?

When you find yourself in the kind of situation we’ve described above, there’re two things to consider: first, don’t blame God. Believe that He’s perfect in all things; absolutely perfect. There’re no errors or mistakes with Him. Secondly, don’t ask unwise or foolish questions.

Recognise that at a certain point in our lives, we need more knowledge, because when trouble strikes at that time of ignorance, we pay dearly for our ignorance. The situation could be directly connected to you, or a loved one, but maybe if either you or the victim knew better, the outcome would have been different. It all boils down to one thing: knowledge. So, don’t become overwhelmed to the point that your prayers are all about, “Oh God, why?”

Don’t ask such irrelevant questions, and never think He’s to blame; He often had nothing to do with it. Rather, recognise His perfection; thank Him for always doing all things right, and then determine to know the Word, pressing forward with the knowledge of His Word to change the situations that lie ahead.
Your ability to live a victorious, joyous and prosperous life is dependent on how much of God’s Word you know and live by. Consistently inundate your spirit, soul and mind with spiritual information from God’s Word.

PRAYER

Dear Lord, your faithfulness is ever sure; you’re without injustice; you’re perfect and true in all your ways! Thank you for your grace and wondrous works in my life. Your Word works effectually in me, causing me to be fruitful in every good work, to your praise and glory, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.

I affirm that I am growing in grace and in the knowledge of Jesus Christ. My mind is stayed on the Word, and I am enjoying divine peace, security, joy, comfort, and protection in the Name of the Lord Jesus! I abide daily under the coverage of God’s protective wings, shielded from harm, terror and all evil.

I fear nothing and no one, because, in Him, I live and move and have my being! I am indeed loaded with benefits from the Word, and my path is lighted by God’s Word to be guided aright and be imparted with wisdom; wisdom to know and do His perfect will at all times. Daily, my mind is renewed with the Word, to become all that the Father had destined me to be. Excellence, glory, virtue, and success exude from me today because my heart is filled with divine treasures.

Everywhere I go today, I am accepted and highly favored, for I carry God’s divine presence with me. I have the supernatural wisdom and ability to do the impossible because the Greater One lives in me! I recognize life’s challenges as my opportunities to win and make my world a better place. MR AMBROSE: Mama, please! It’s not even about me. It’s about the kids. Tatiana took Ill last night and wouldn’t stop asking for her mum. We had a terrible night and that’s the reason I am here this early.

CHIOMA: no babes, it’s just a way to get rid of boredom. It’s gets really lonely and boring in this big house when you leave. Since its across the road and starts at 10am, I don’t think it will be onerous at all

(A few minutes after Deric left, Charlotte quickly got dressed and went to Nina’s house. They had already planned to go and confront Mr Adrian in his house.)

CALLER: erm, you need to stay calm, please. She was brought in by a good Samaritan. From what we were told, she was knocked down by a car whilst trying to cross the road. And she sustained very serious injuries to her head and possibly to other parts of her body
When she was brought to us, she was still conscious and gave us your number.
After a while she became unconscious and we had to induce coma. She is currently on induced coma but we are concerned about the baby as it is becoming weak.
We must induce labour as quickly as possible to save the baby.
We need someone to sign for it before we proceed. Since she mentioned you earlier, we thought it wise to contact you.

Ambrose went back to Lagos and informed Madam Nkechi what had happened to Chioma. She insisted on going with him to Abuja to stay with her.
All his efforts to stop her was abortive, so they both came back to the hospital.
When Madam Nkechi saw her daughter, she cried her heart out but the doctors told her she would be sent out of the ward if she continued to cry.
She stopped the noise, but couldn’t stop the tears….

MR AMBROSE: mama what are you trying to do?

MADAM NKECHI: I want to give her a strip wash?

MR AMBROSE: don’t worry mama, I’ll do that but only after the doctors have have done their morning routine with her.

MADAM NKECHI: hmmmm! My strong girl is now being washed like a kid???
God!!!! The God of widows please come to my aid. Restore my daughter. I don’t want any other result??

MR AMBROSE: it’s okay mama, she’ll be fine.

JUDITH: Good morning, mama

MADAM NKECHI: good morning o! I can’t thank you enough for all you did and still doing for my dauhter. May God bless you ??

JUDITH: the only blessing I need from God is to see my friend back on her feet. I don’t want anything else?

MADAM NKECHI: he has no option o! Hmmmm. Chioma you looked forward to this child, now he is here and you can’t even hold him!???

JUDITH: mama, I’ve come to pick you up let’s go to my house so you freshen up, eat and get some sleep then we come back

MADAM NKECHI: hehehe! Me eat??? Joke! I have no appetite my dear. With my little girl like this? No, nne. Thank you. I will be here looking into her face until God does something.?

MR AMBROSE: Mama, please go with her. The doctors will be here soon and they will send all of us out anyways, So they can do whatever they need to do with her and it takes about thirty minutes daily.

DOCTOR: (walks in) good morning, everyone.

MR AMBROSE: good morning, doctor

DOCTOR: ummm! Lots of sad and teary faces here! Not sure I’ve met you ?(referring to Madam Nkechi)

MR AMBROSE: she is my mother in law. She came with me on Saturday

MADAM NKECHI: (kneels in front of the doctor and held his legs) please my son, save my daughter. Her father died when she was only five and since then, she has been my only friend, daughter and the essence of my existence.
We went through a lot together.
She hawked with Me, cried with me when her uncles persecuted us so much. She lived on the streets of Lagos with me for six months before we could pay for a place.
I managed to send her abroad to study because her father always said he would send her abroad because she was very brilliant. She came back with a first class and has since then brought me nothing but Joy and fulfilment.
She gave me two beautiful grand daughters and now a grand son.
Tell me what life would be without her???
Please my son, don’t let it happen???

DOCTOR: phewwwwww! This is the part of this job I hate! Mama, I wish I can make you any promises than to assure you that I and my colleagues will do everything we can to help her. But the decision on what the outcome would be, lies in the hands of fate.

Erm, Mr Ambrose, the nurses will come around soon and get her ready for the surgery. Unfortunately, the fluids have not drained from the report I read from the doctors who worked last night. A brain surgery has become mandatory.
Just to remind you that this is a six hour surgery. So you may want to go home and get some rest and come back.
There’s no need hanging around. The baby has been washed and fed. But we will bring him to his mum and place him on her chest for at least 10 minutes before we take her to the operating theatre. This we do daily so they can be bonding. Very essential.
Yeah! So, the nurses will be here soon!

MR AMBROSE: doctor, when are you going to give me the letter she wrote then?

DOCTOR: ermmm, the thing is This, she left an instruction on what must happen before we give you the letter. She also left one for her mum and Judith.
There are two conditions to that. She said if any of those conditions are met, then we can hand you the letters. So far, none of those has happened. Sorry I didn’t read that before now. A colleague of mine who locked it away that day we couldn’t find It, told me of the conditions.

MR AMBROSE: what are the conditions?

DOCTOR: I’m afraid, I can’t tell you that. I need to go now. Please do whatever you have to do quickly. The nurses will be here Soon ?‍️

MR AMBROSE: mama, we need to leave now. Both of you can go, I’ll hang around.

JUDITH: let’s say a quick prayer?

JUDITH: Hello, my name is Judy, can I speak with Mr Ambrose, please?

Mr AMBROSE: Yes, how can I help?

JUDITH: well, your wife has just put to bed. Does that mean anything to you at all?

MR AMBROSE: Oh my God! Chioma? Where…Where is she??? When? Who are you and where do you stay?

JUDITH: she’s been living with me

MR AMBROSE: but I have been calling the number they gave me in London when I went looking for her there!

JUDITH: Oh! I lost my phone last week so I changed my number.

MR AMBROSE: I’m getting ready. Can I speak with her???

JUDITH: ermm, no. Actually, Chioma had an accident and labour was induced. She was also induced into coma…So…yeah …(starts crying)

MR AMBROSE: excuse me! Why are you crying? Is my wife alive? Hian! Which hospital is she in?

JUDITH: when you get to Abuja, give me a call

(Judith went back to where Chioma was lying and started talking to her even when she was not responding)

JUDITH: Chy, please keep fighting. You have a gorgeous little boy to nurse. Please don’t give up. Remember your daughters. I know they mean so much to you.

(Mr Ambrose arrived at the hospital a few hours after speaking with Judith. Judith introduced him to the doctors and they allowed him to go see her)

MR AMBROSE: don’t tell me this is my wife! Now this is beginning to feel like a nightmare. Can I be woken up from this, now!!!!!

DOCTOR: I’m sorry sir, but you must keep your voice down. For her sake and the sake of other patients. Thanks.

MR AMBROSE: what happened to her?

DOCTOR: she was hit by a car

MR AMBROSE: and then!

DOCTOR: unfortunately, her spinal cord is broken and she also sustained brain injuries. As we speak, there is a lot of fluid in her brains and we are hoping they drain without us opening the skull. That is usually our last resort as it is not always a great idea.
We induced coma so she can be relaxed and see if the fluid drains. If by Sunday, nothing positive happens, we are going to have to carry out brain surgeries , I’m afraid.
I’m sure you know she was pregnant when the accident happened. Fortunately, we were able to save the baby. He is in the neonatal unit. Doing rather fantastic and eating a lot hehe

MR AMBROSE: (hits his head) uhhuuu! My head is spinning! I can’t make sense of anything! Is she going to be fine??

DOCTOR: ermmm, I wish I can answer that but we will do our very best. Unfortunately though, she may never walk unaided because of her spine

MR AMBROSE: I don’t care whether she walks with the aid of 10 men or becomes a vegetable all I want is the life of my wife! Give me a letter, I am flying her abroad, please!

DOCTOR: sure! If you think that is a good idea. I am a UK trained doctor myself and as you know, we are the best in the country. Ninety percent of our doctors studied abroad and we give the same quality of care they render abroad. But it’s up to you anyway

MR AMBROSE: (kneels by Chioma’s bed) baby please? life without you has been miserable. Nothing is the same anymore.
This was my fault.?????I did this to you, Chy????

JUDITH: that’s enough, sir please. You need to pull yourself together. Instead of crying, talk to God about your wife.

DOCTOR: ermm, sir, after seeing the baby, I’ll like to have a word with you privately, please.

JUDITH: stand up sir, let’s go see the baby

(Judith held Mr Ambrose and took him to where the baby was. Because he was very unstable on his feet.)

JUDITH: that’s him

JUDITH: what!!!! I knew she didn’t lie to me!!!???? Chioma, God has vindicated you! That was your prayer day and night while you were in my house!! Wake up and see the salvation of the Lord!! Chioma wake up!!!!!!!!!?????

(Judith went back to where Chioma was and Mr Ambrose took the baby with him Into the doctors office)

DOCTOR: awwww! Isn’t he such a bundle of joy and he is the spitting image of you!

MR AMBROSE: (opens his shirt to reveal his birth Mark) Look, he got that from me.

DOCTOR: what a wonder! Nature carried out a DNA test and handed you the result. This is the most authentic DNA result. Ours is 99.9% accurate, this one is 100% accurate.

Erm, sir you need to put yourself together. I understand how difficult it is for you especially because of the things that happened before this. Please stay strong for your kids

MR AMBROSE: she is my strength, I can’t be strong when she is weak.

DOCTOR: phewww! Tough! Ermmm, when she was brought here, she was conscious for up to an hour or so. Having perfect conversation whilst we cleaned her up until she started vomiting and became unconscious.
She did ask for a pen and paper and she wrote you and the baby a letter..

MR AMBROSE: ????

He didnt make much of it since it was just one person out of six. He thought maybe he needed a break.
Also, it wasn’t the doctor they had been dealing with so he didn’t bother asking him the situation of things.
But as he walked towards the hallway to the theatre, he saw the doctor they had been dealing with. He had no gloves on and was not wearing his coat….

MR AMBROSE: doctor! How is she? Are you done? How was it? Successful, right?

DOCTOR: ermmm, please come with me to my office

MR AMBROSE: I’ll come of course but tell me the situation of things? Why are you all out? It’s not six hours yet? I only went down the road to get some credit to check up on my kids in Abuja. How is my wife?

DOCTOR: ermmm, she is resting. Please come to my office.

MR AMBROSE: she is resting….oh! That sounds great! Meaning the surgery was successful and she is resting. Phewww! Now I can have a glass of water. I knew she would pull through! Never seen a woman so strong yet so soft! Can I see her?

DOCTOR: you will, in a moment but please can I have a word with you in my office, first?

MR AMBROSE: sure! (Follows him to his office)

DOCTOR: please take a seat.

DOCTOR: you see Mr Ambrose, since the day your wife was brought in, I noticed what a wonderful family you have, and when you told me your story, I felt quite bad because I know the trauma and guilt you must be passing through

MR AMBROSE: doctor, I’m happy it’s all coming to an end now. As soon as she wakes up, I’ll ask for her forgiveness and when she is discharged, we will go somewhere nice to renew our wedding vows?

DOCTOR: phewww! This is gonna be hard!

DOCTOR: ermm, Mr Ambrose, I’ve been in this profession for 39 years now and believe me, I’ve seen so much deaths and given so much death news, but right now, it feels like the very first time I am doing it

MR AMBROSE: what did you say happened to Chioma? The wife of my youth! My friend, the sister I never had, the mother of my kids! How do I explain this to my children??? Nah! Doctor, I want to speak with her!

… Accuses him of being a PDP mole

A coalition of presidential aspirants on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) have demanded for the resignation of the National Chairman of the party, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole.

The group, which includes governorship, senatorial, House of Representatives, state Houses of Assembly aspirants on the platform of the party, also accused Oshiomhole of working for the opposition People’s Democratic Party (PDP), by deliberately weakening the party to make victory easy for the opposition in next year’s general elections.

In a statement signed by two presidential aspirants of the party; Alhaji Mumakai-Unagha and Dr SKC Ogbonnia, the coalition noted that the commotion in all the chapters of the party across the country, starting from the congresses and on to the various levels of primaries, were all deliberately foisted by Oshiomhole to achieve his plot.

They also accused the national chairman of working against the younger generation of Nigerians, preventing youths with political vision and ambition by imposing very exorbitant fees for nomination and expression of interest forms of the party.

They, however, doubted his capacity to lead the party successfully to victory in the 2019 general elections, noting that he does not have what it takes to manage the myriad of crises he had allegedly foisted on the various branches of the party across the country.

While calling on the chairman of the party to resign immediately, the group warned that it would mobilise a massive members’ against him if he refused to heed to the call on him.

“The National Chairman does not have the capacity to lead the party to victory come 2019 following the crisis he has created all over the country as soon as he assumed office, therefore he has lost the confidence of All Progressive Progress members.

“He has not only succeeded in creating factions within the party in almost the whole thirty six states of the Federation including the Federal Capital Territory, he has introduced development unknown to democracy.
“He deliberately hiked the prizes of nomination forms to scare genuine Nigerians with burning desire to salvage the nation economy, he’s gradually destroying the party to pave way for the Peoples’ Democratic Party. 

“It is obvious that he cannot manage crisis and he will not be able to manage the crisis he created with impurity during the recent primary elections conducted by the party as it was all sham. He imposed party executives as well as candidates in the various constituents against the wishes of the people. 
“Adams Oshiomhole conspired to deny Nigerian Youths as well as party members that are desirous of contesting the 2019 general election through the prohibitive hike of the nomination form.

“Today, APC as a party is sharply divided as the recent primary elections were held on factional bases. We are not sure of the party victory come 2019 due to what we may regard or call man made crisis created by the chairman.

“We, the Coalition of APC Presidential aspirants including Governorship, Senatorial, House of Representative and Houses of Assembly aspirants are hereby calling on the National Chairman to resign. Should the National chairman fails to resign, we shall mobilize APC faithful across the country to besiege the party secretariat”, the statement.

Atiku Abubakar Who's the Presidential candidate of the PDP, today received Nigeria. Youths and PDD Youth leaders in his Abuja Office.

The meeting is inline with his promise, that youths will be his major priority and this is his first public post-nomination...

The presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, has challenged President Muhammadu Buhari of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to tell Nigerians what he used the N13 trillion his government borrowed within three years of his administration for.

Atiku, in a statement Tuesday by his Atiku Presidential Campaign Organisation, said that the Buhari government and the APC have been very idle of late, which explains their abandonment of the vital duties in order to focus on hurling insults and false accusations on the presidential candidate of the PDP.
It said: “The Atiku Presidential Campaign Organisation runs an issue-based campaign where refined language and cerebral arguments founded on facts are used to disseminate the vision of our candidate which is why we call on the Buhari Campaign Organisation to waste no time in taking the #BuhariChallenge in clearing the air on these knotty issues bothering the minds of Nigerians.”

While challenging the Buhari Campaign Organisation to take the #BuhariChallenge and answer the following questions among others, it said: “Name one year that Nigeria’s GDP grew faster than her population under Buhari (for 16 years of PDP administrations, Nigeria’s GDP always grew faster than population growth).

“Name the initiatives the Buhari government has put in place to address Nigeria being named the world headquarters for extreme poverty under Buhari.

“Name one initiative the Buhari government has put in place to address Nigeria having the world’s highest number of out of school children; 13.2 million according to the United Nations Children Fund. Name the date the Ogoni cleanup will begin.

“Name what President Buhari has done with the N13 trillion loans he has taken in 3 years, compared to the N6 trillion borrowed by the PDP in 16 years.

“Name one youth in President Buhari’s cabinet. Name one campaign promise President Buhari has kept. Name the real owners of the Ikoyi apartment billions.”

It stressed that these are the issues the Nigerian people want to hear about, not insults from a Presidency and a party that have spent three years in office only to preside over Nigeria’s first ever recession in 25 years.

.....NSA, DG DSS, IGP, others to defend budget Thursday

Fresh controversy appears to be trailing President Muhammadu Buhari’s request of the approval of the sum of N189,207,544,893.13 for the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for the conduct of 2019 elections.

This is coming as the Senate Committee on Appropriation on Wednesday resolved to give nod to the sum of N189.207 bn for the conduct of the elections as requested by the President.

President Buhari in a letter dated 19th September, 2018 requested for the holistic consideration and approval of INEC and security agencies budget for the 2019 elections.

The source of funding of the INEC’s 2019 election budget appears to be breeding discomfort among National Assembly members.
Many senators asked consistently that the source of funding of the INEC budget should be clarified.

While President Buhari said that the N189.207 billion should be sourced from the N500 billion the National Assembly inserted into the 2018 budget, the joint National Assembly committee on INEC recommended that the money should be pulled from the over N900 billion Service Wide Vote in the 2018 budget.

A memo entitled “Submission of harmonised report of INEC 2019 general election supplementary budget estimates submitted to the Appropriation commission by Chairman, Senate Committee on INEC, Senator Suleiman Nazif and his counterpart in the House of Representatives, Hon. Aishatu Jibril Dukku said:
“INEC was allocated the sum of N143,512,529,455 only as recommended by Mr. President for its 2019 general elections and indicated as amount needed for 2018.

“The balance of N45,695,015,438 billion was requested for appropriation under 2019 budget.
“However, the INEC presented the entire sum of N189,207,544,893.13 for the committee’s consideration.

“The committee after wide consultation with INEC decided on a budgetary allocation of the sum of N143,312,256,955.13 only.”

Chairman of the Senate Committee on Appropriation, Senator Mohammed Danjuma Goje proposed at the meeting on Wednesday that the two letters by President Buhari should be combined “so that we give Mr. President what he wants.”

The proposal was unanimously carried.
Before the committee went into closed session to consider the seemingly knotty issue of the source of funding of the INEC budget, Goje announced that the committee resolved that N189,207,544, 893.13 as requested should be approved for INEC for the conduct of the 2019 elections.

On security budget for the election, Goje said that the committee also resolved to invite the National Security Adviser, Director General Department of State Services, Commandant Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Inspector General of Police, Comptroller General Nigeria Immigration Service and heads of other security agencies connected with the 2019 elections to appear before the committee to defend their budgets.

Goje emphasized that the N78,340,530535.00 for security agencies would be approved after the appearance of the heads of the agencies.

President Buhari in the letter entitled Re: Request for virement/supplementary budget said: “You recall that in my letter dated 11th July, 2018, I requested for the kind consideration of the National Assembly for a virement under the 2018 Appropriation Act.

“Part of this request was for the funding of the request made by the INEC and security agencies for the 2019 general elections.

“In that letter, I indicated that INEC and the security agencies had indicated that their total funding requirement for the 2019 elections would amount to N242,445,322,600.00.

“Of that amount, I have requested that N164,104,792,065,00 be accommodated in the 2018 budget, by way of virement within the 2018 Appropriation Act, whilst the balance of N78,340, 530,535.00, should be considered by the National Assembly as part of the 2019 budget.

“When the Hon. Minister of Budget and National Planning, Senator Udoma Udo Udoma, appeared before the Joint Committee of the National Assembly, set up to consider my request, he was informed that the National Assembly would be willing to consider accommodating the total amount required for the funding of the 2019 elections as part of the virement of the 2018 Appropriation Act, provided there was a specific request made by me.

“In the light of the current realities, and in order to ensure that the 2019 general elections are not affected by any delays in the passage into law of the 2019 budget, I accept this kind suggestion.

“I therefore wish to formally request that the total amount of N242,445,322,600.00 requested by INEC and the security agencies be considered for inclusion in my virement request under the 2018 Appropriation Act.

”I look forward to your urgent consideration of this request to ensure that the 2019 general elections are properly conducted.”

The implication of what Senate Appropriation committee did yesterday was that the entire INEC budget request would be accommodated as demanded by President Buhari.

The only hiccup may be the source of funding of the budget.

AMCON boss Kuru chides airlines for poor corporate governance, proffers solutions

MANAGING Director, Asset Management Corporation of Nigeria ( AMCON), Ahmed Lawan Kuru has identified some areas where corporate governance is sorely lacking in the aviation industry stating that the factors have led to the demise of many airlines in the country.

This is just as he said that given the constantly deteriorating state of the nation’s airports and the bad management of the facilities therein, concession governed by due process is the only way to go.
Kuru, made this known today at the 3rd Edition of the Colloquium organised by the Nigeria a Travel Market (NTM) where he pointed out major challenges of airlines and even airports because of lack of corporate governance.

The AMCON boss who called on insistence for corporate governance and that the regulatory body, Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority ( NCAA), must have the courage to insist that corporate governance is adhered to.
According to Kuru, examples of poor corporate governance in Nigeria stems from Board of directors being represented by familial relations ” father, mother, son” who according to him have no training to qualify as board members.

Other examples of poor governance, he said, also include lavish lifestyle of owners taking precedence over payments of pilots and engineers, owner of airline and staff becoming contractors for services thereby compromising standard.

He said,”Board of Directors are represented by “Father, Mother, son” who have no form of Aviation/ Airline training to qualify to be on the Board. Also lifestyle of owners takes precedence over payments to Pilots, Engineers etc and owners and staff are contractors for service, thereby compromising standards and quality. In most cases overpricing services.”

He went on to state that airline staff become flight ticket agents, in most cases creating artificial “full capacity” situations where when passengers eventually board, a lot of seats are empty.

He gave other poor corporate governance structures,”Staff loyalty is only to the owner, not to the Company and suppliers of parts, lessors, line maintenance providers, fuel suppliers, are not paid as at when due. They withdraw support and the airlines tether to the point of failure. Them airlines open routes without proper study thereby resulting in additional expense instead of income. Most airlines enter into trouble the moment they enter into the international route, where it is difficult for them to compete.”

He charged the NCAA on regulations stating that they are either weak and that the NCAA,”lacks the courage to enforce compliance based on current standards or need more fine tuning to ensure effectiveness of the airline.”

“The Aviation industry is as important as the Health Industry because it deals with the lives of travellers. It requires more regulation than even the Banking Industry. It is only in Nigeria that an Airline can abandon you at the airport for more than five (5) hours without any recourse. Indeed, there are consequences for frequent cancellations, however I cannot recall any airline punished in the recent past. Equally disturbing is the state of the Aviation infrastructure.”

On the way forward, he said that for any change to be effected in the Corporate Governance of the Airline, it must be regulatory-driven, self-regulation has not worked so far.

“Some of the areas that require immediate attention include: Cash flow for setting up Airlines must be professionally scrutinized to make business sense. The Aviation Industry operates on a low profit margin and a low profit margin requires prudence that can only come with good Corporate Governance.”

“Provision of affordable sources of funding and access to foreign exchange. Scrutinize the ownership and source of funding of the prospective Investors to confirm fitness. Vet and check all the prospective owners of the company. Conduct routine and deep examination of the operations and books of the Airline to ensure compliance to set standards. Existing standards must be enforced and airlines penalized for non-compliance.”

“Appointment of Independent Directors with requisite experience on the Board of all Airlines. Given public interest, sole-proprietorship should be discouraged. Just like in banking, ownership should be diversified. Adoption of the code of Corporate Governance for the Aviation Industry,” he said.

Speaking earlier Convener of the Colloquium, Simon Tumba stated that corporate governance was weak among Organisations in the country but the airline industry was far worse.

He stated that it was a contributory factor to the myriads of failures over the years
Tumba said, “Generally corporate governance in most private enterprise in Nigeria is weak, but the airline industry in Nigeria is worse. We believe it is a major contributory factor to the dwindling fortunes of the industry or its stunted growth, or lack of it. ”

“We have observed how some strong airlines have almost vanished due to lack of financial discipline. How do you describe a director of an airline, who will take $10,000 for a weekend spree? Or give a Japanese publication a $20,000 advert because the advert executive flash her laps before the director? Or how some aircraft were purchased at unbelievably exorbitant rates. I can go on and on. “

Immigration intercepts, arrests 8 Ghanaians at MMIA for human trafficking

EIGHT Ghanaians women between the ages of 20 to 25 have been apprehended for alleged prostitution by men of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos.

The apprehended Ghanaians had attempted to pass through the Lagos Airport to Kuwait where they hoped to cross to Europe for prostitution before they were intercepted.

A source close to the command who confided in our correspondent said the ladies were booked on Egypt Air out of Lagos to Cairo, from where they had hoped to transit to Kuwait before departing to Europe.

According to her, officials of immigration at the command had suspected the ladies immediately they approached their counters for processes and queried them on their mission out of the continent through Nigeria especially when they were in possession of Ghanaian international passports.
The source said that after questioning, the ladies confessed that they had wanted to use Nigeria as a transit point to Europe.

She said the ladies also confessed that they had entered Nigeria through road via Togo and Benin Republic, pointing out that their sponsors had advised them to use Nigeria as a transit point to Europe, which failed with their arrest.
The source gave the names of some of the ladies arrested to include; Tordro Gifty; 22, Odurowaa Millicent; 20, Abotsi Gift, 24 and Bisuat Fustina, 25.

Upon their apprehension, it was gathered that the ladies were handed over to officials of the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking In Persons (NAPTIP) who drove them out of the airport.

The source said: “When our officers interrogated the ladies, they discovered that they had no genuine reasons for attempting to use Nigeria as a transit point to Europe. So, this led to further query from our officers. When they were asked, they confessed to the fact that they were actually crossing to Europe, but had hoped to land in Kuwait first.

“During interrogation, it was discovered that the ladies in question actually entered Nigeria through road from Ghana to Togo and then to Benin Republic. But, the fact is that since the current Comptroller-General of Immigration, Mr. Muhammed Babandede came onboard, he has increased vigilance at not just the Lagos Airport, but at other border posts across the country.

“This is not the first time we are arresting human traffickers at this airport and we will continue to increase our surveillance to ensure that unscrupulous elements don’t use our command to perpetuate their criminal activities.”

However, as at the time of filing this report, it was not clear if the apprehended ladies had been returned to Ghana for further prosecution or were still in the country.

MED-VIEW Airline has had to explain why it has asked no fewer than 60 staff to go pending an improvement in the airlines current situation
following the realities of the prevailing economic situation.

The airline in a statement signed by Executive Director, Business Development , Alhaji Isiaq Na-Allah said it is currently restructuring in order to fully maximize its operation and prepare adequately for the challenges ahead.

In the course of this exercise, some staff, about 60 in numbers, were required to step aside as a result of downsizing with a geniue intention to recall them back as soon as situation improves as stated in our letter to the affected staff.
The decision by management on this exercise though tough is predicated on the need to achieve the best result with a minimum but adequate work force. All the Staff affected have been adequately communicated.

A Chief Magistrate’s Court in Minna has ordered the remand in prison custody of a 32-year-old farmer after he pleaded guilty to a charge of rape.

Rilwanu Salisu is being tried over the rape of a 78-year-old woman., contrary to section 282 of the penal code law.

According to the police, Salisu injured and damaged the elderly woman’s private parts.

According to the Police Prosecutor, Mr Daniel Ikwoche, the victim’s son, Mukhtar Garba, reported the matter at the Nasko Police Station on Sept. 14.

Ikwoche quoted the complainant as alleging that the accused person, a resident of Kwada village in Magama Local Government Area, entered into the room of his mother, while she was asleep, and forcefully had sexual intercourse with her.

He further quoted the complainant as saying that the victim sustained injuries in her private part and was bleeding.

When the charge was read to the accused person, he pleaded guilty and begged the court for leniency.

However, the presiding chief magistrate, Nasiru Muazu, declined to take the plea of the accused person because his court lacked jurisdiction to entertain the matter.

Muazu directed the Police to forward a duplicate copy of the case file to the State Director of Public Prosecution for legal advice.

He, thereafter, ordered the accused person to be remanded in prison custody pending the outcome of the advice, and adjourned the case to Oct. 25, for further mention.

Well said; Buhari emergency led to a rise in the cost of living and a nosedive in the standard of living; the price of PMS went up and the number of trekkers and people who cannot afford transport fares also skyrocketed; Buhari came and 10 million Nigerians lost their jobs; the prices of goods and services went up too; inflation tripled and more people went to bed hungry.
Buhari's emergence rubbished our economy and put the dollar out of the reach of ordinary Nigerians; our hospitals are without drugs; industrial actions are a regular occurrence; no new jobs were created and no visible capital projects were commenced.

The killing of innocent people by Boko haram and murderous Fulani herdsmen went unabated; freedom of speech has been jettisoned on the guise of fake news clamp down; people have been incarcerated even when the courts say otherwise; electricity has not improved; good roads are a mirage as there is general resentment and disillusionment that pervades the entity of Nigeria.

Jobs were lost, salaries are owed by states and overtly corrupt persons are still serving in his "saintly" administration; even those that should be prosecuted for committing criminal atrocities are even contesting for APC tickets. Even Buhari's wife believes her husband is weak and should be sent home. The international community has been embarrassed by his utterances to the extent some hothead president is alleged to have said he is "lifeless".

Young Nigerians who have shown resilience and the will to survive against all odds have being labeled "lazy" while his son Yusuf who has never had paid employment rides on multi-million naira bikes. The list is endless and if will be a shame if any Nigerian Youth would support the man who has cast aspersion on their personality and push.

Atiku may not be the best candidate but he is the most popular and has the best chance of winning come next year; aside the fact he is from the North and also a Fulani, he has vested interests in oil, education, maritime, real estate, agriculture etc. He is younger too and known to be in good health. To me, the best candidate is Oby Ezekwesili but alas, she can not win.

In conclusion, voting for Buhari would be tantamount to going back into exile; continuing in suffering; voting for backwardness, nepotism and all shades of negativity. The time to change the change is now lest the dagger that did the dagger would continue dripping blood.

Nigeria’s anti-graft agency, the EFCC, says it arrested a suspected Yahoo boy after an intelligence report, as exotic cars, forged documents were recovered from him.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Ibadan Zonal Office has arrested one Oke Omoniyi Benjamin (33) from Efon-Alaaye, Ekiti State for internet fraud.

Benjamin was arrested sequel to an Intelligent Report received on 27th August, 2018, alleging that he is into internet fraud and has also defrauded a number of foreigners of their money through fraudulent schemes.

The report however stated that Benjamin used the proceeds of his fraud to buy two cars, and also own a unisex salon known as Signatures Unisex Salon located at No. 238, Ilawe Road, opposite Baptist School, Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State.

At the point of arrest, Operatives of the Commission recovered an Acura TL, 2010 with Registration Number BDG 969FH and a Lexus ES 300, 2002 with Registration Number EPE 829FJ, two Laptops, two Phones, forged documents and several counterfeit cheques of various foreign Banks.

Afenifere, while decrying Tinubu’s position in a statement titled: “We Reject Tinubu’s Miyetti Allah’s Choice,” issued by its spokesperson, Mr Yinka Odumakin, said it totally rejected this position, describing it as very backward in modern time and contrary to the consensus of all peace-loving Nigerians that what the country needed to solve the herdsmen siege on farmers was to have ranches.

Afenifere, however, said Tinubu was free to play his politics the way it suited him but warned that he should tread softly in playing games with the lives of Nigerians by making outlandish propositions on issues on which positions had been settled.

“The attention of Afenifere has been drawn to the statement credited to former Lagos governor, Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu, that the herdsmen’s terror being witnessed across the country is a fallout of water scarcity and that the country should “convert unused land to grazing reserves.”

The pan-Yoruba socio-political group, while maintaining its rejection of Tinubu’s position, which it described as “very backward in modern time and contrary to the consensus of all peace-loving Nigerians that what we need to solve the herdsmen siege on farmers is to have ranches,” wondered if the APC chieftain as a very enlightened person would have suggested that grazing routes should be established in places like the US and Britain at this age and time if he “were still living in any of such countries.”

Afenifere maintained that it stood on the 2014 National Conference position that the country should embrace ranching as a way out of the herdsmen crisis, but quickly said that while Tinubu was free to give up his residence in Bourdillon, Ikoyi, Lagos for cattle colony, the Yoruba people would not accept their land being converted into cattle grazing routes.

“We stand on the position of the 2014 National Conference position that the country should embrace ranching as a way out of the herdsmen crisis.

“Let those who are in the position to take the decision to know this clearly: Tinubu can give his residence in Bourdillon for cattle colony but our people will not accept their land being converted into cattle grazing routes,” Afenifere said.
