The leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, has taken a swipe again at President Muhammadu Buhari whom he claimed has died and is being impersonated in Aso Rock. 

In a live broadcast from Israel on Saturday (today), the IPOB leader who called the president an illiterate claimed that the real Buhari is dead and the person in Aso Rock is Jubrin, a look-alike of the president who comes from Sudan. 

He said next month, IPOB will hold a meeting where he will reveal and provide evidence including pictorial proof to show that Buhari is fake as he alleged that the president died in Saudi Arabia. 

He said the Nigerian cult government gave him strict bail conditions so he won't be able to talk or speak his mind which he refused to do and that's why they decided to kill him and shut him up permanently. 

The IPOB leader once again hailed past governor of Ekiti, Ayodele Fayose and Femi Fani-Kayode for always standing up against the president and always criticising him. 

He blasted the Arewa consultative forum whom he claimed pressured the Ohaneze Ndigbo to do something about him when his popularity was growing in Nigeria. He also heavily criticised the South east governors, Ohaneze Ndigbo and other Igbo leaders who he said helped in proscribing the IPOB group as a terrorists sect. 

He also spoke on Aisha Buhari who said last year that Nnamdi Kanu took advantage of the president’s absence to carry out his activities.

Mrs Buhari while speaking at the presidential villa in Abuja said the absence of the president created a setback, that the IPOB leader leveraged on.

“As a result of the president spending several months outside Nigeria, a 40-year-old man who was still living in his father’s house created a state out of a state and that is a major set back for the country and the health sector did not benefit,” she said.

Nnamdi Kanu also blasted the Abia state governor, Okezie Ikpeazu and others whom he claimed planned his obituary. He claimed the governor received stolen items from his house by the military. 

Nnamdi Kanu also said that IPOB needs freedom because they cannot be slave to the Fulani people.

IBADAN - VICE President Yemi Osinbajo has exposed former Nigeria’s Vice President, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, over his plot to turn Nigerians against the present government on restructuring of the country. 

The vice president spoke against the backdrop of statements attributed to Atiku, the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in next year’s general elections that he would restructure Nigeria if Nigerians elected him as president in 2019, saying when Atiku was the vice president and Chief Olusegun Obasanjo was the president between 1999 and 2007, on PDP platform, they opposed restructuring. 

Osinbajo disclosed this when he answered questions on the state of the nation from the audience after he delivered the ninth public lecture, entitled: Developing the Nation through Youth Empowerment, as part of activities marking the 68th anniversary of the Sigma Club, University of Ibadan. 

The lecture, chaired by a legal luminary, Dr. Wale Babalakin(SAN), and held at the International Conference Centre, UI, was attended by Deputy Vice Chancellor, Administration, UI, Prof Idowu Adebowale, on behalf of the Vice Chancellor, Prof Idowu Olayinka; deputy governor of Oyo State, Otunba Moses Adeyemo, who represented Governor Abiola Ajimobi; and leader of the Sigma Club, Valentine Igbonekwu. 

Osinbajo said the ruling All Progressives Congress started advocates for restructuring since the 2000 when Atiku was the vice president and Chief Olusegun Obasanjo was the president of Nigeria. 

They both administered the country on PDP platform from 1999 to 2007. He accused them of opposing restructuring when they were he in power, asking why Atiku should be talking about restructuring he fought against then. 

“If you ask those people now talking about restructuring, none of them has done anything compared to what we have done. So, I am not a latter day convert to restructuring. I am an active practitioner of restructuring, and I have gone to the Supreme Court 12 times to test restructuring. 

“If today, somebody is talking about restructuring, ask him what does he mean? And where was he when we were going to court? Were they not opposing restructuring when we were going to court? We were in the opposition then. They were at the Federal Government, and they opposed every step that we took on restructuring,” he said. 

Osinbajo continued: “Let me explain my position clearly. I am not just an advocate of restructuring, there is no other government in Nigeria that has actively pursued restructuring such as we did when I was Attorney General in Lagos State. 

“People talking about restructuring, if you ask them ‘What do you mean by restructuring?’ They won’t even know what it means, and that is the problem we have and that we have to face. 

“Let me tell you what it is. When I was the Attorney General in Lagos State, we pursued in the Supreme Court, all of the issues of restructuring. We started with fiscal restructuring, which is more of resource control. Should states control their own resources? We went to the Supreme Court. They argued that each state should control its own resources.” 

Osinbajo stated that the states that argued in favour of autonomy of states to control their resources were the oil producing states in the country and Lagos State, and they argued on one side, adding that other states of the federation argued on the other side because every state wants share the oil money. 

“So, our own argument was that each state should control its own resources. We lost at the Supreme Court. The Supreme Court said no, that you cannot control your resources. If you are an oil producing state, take 13 per cent extra, which is derivation,” he stated. 

Osinbajo said the Lagos State further argued that it has ports and the ports serve the entire nation, so the state should also take 13 per cent derivation. The Supreme Court, he said, said no, adding that the argument was pursued further, which has led to the introduction of onshore and offshore law, “which is fast enabling our state to share from onshore resources… 

“All this time, this was 2000, some of those people, including the presidential candidate of PDP, who is talking about restructuring, was the vice president then; they opposed every step that we took. Of course, we were taking the Federal Government to court then. They opposed every step. 

“The next thing we did was that the states should be able to create their own local governments, which is autonomy of states. So, we created 47 new local governments in Lagos. The president then, Chief Obasanjo, seized our local government funds and said we could not create new local governments. So, they seized the funds they were supposed to allocate for our local governments. 

“We challenged the seizure by going to the Supreme Court. The Supreme Court held that the president had no right to seize the funds meant for local governments of the state, and that we have a right to create local governments. But after hey have created the local governments, the process is not complete. They must still bring the list of new local governments to the National Assembly and the National Assembly will then amend the whole list of the local governments in the country. 

“So, our local governments remain. But we could not get the National Assembly’s endorsement. So, we passed the LCDA Law. We created 47 and made them local council development areas. 

Chairman of the occasion, Babalakin stated: “I know that the most significant thing we must address is how to give our youths qualitative education. The time has gone to continue to play the blame game but do the needful to salvage the youths. 

“The influx and foray of our youths to foreign universities must be checked to help provide more fund for Nigerian universities. There is no shortcut to it that the government must provide affordable education at all levels. 

“We must find a way of funding education robustly and sustainably to salvage the future of the youth and the nation. We cannot but educate Nigerians and we must find a way of doing it in a robust and sustainable fashion.”

Quote:A policeman, attached to Border Patrol Unit, Ilaro, Ogun State, Inspector Friday Ogbeifun, is currently undergoing investigation over the circumstances surrounding the death of his lover at a hotel in Igando, Lagos State.

It was learnt that the inspector and his lover, identified simply as Esther, had checked in at the hotel on Dele Toye Street, Igando, on Monday around 8pm to have fun.

Our correspondent gathered that while they were in the facility, the woman, a mother of five, slumped and was rushed to the Igando General Hospital, where she was confirmed dead on arrival.

It was learnt that the deceased was a widow whose husband died about two years ago.

A credible source confided in Saturday PUNCH that the corpse of the woman had been taken to the Mainland Hospital mortuary, Yaba, for autopsy.

The source said Ogbeifun reported himself at the Igando Police Station from where he was transferred to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department, Yaba.

He said, “The policeman and the woman were lovers. The woman was a widow. He took her to the hotel on Monday and the woman slumped in the hotel room. What I did not know is whether they had sex before she slumped.

“There was confusion in the hotel. Some workers assisted him to take the woman to the Igando General Hospital, but she did not make it. She was confirmed dead on arrival by a doctor. The inspector reported the case to the police by himself and some operatives visited the hotel.”

In a related development, the girlfriend of one Inspector Innocent Onyishi, is under interrogation at the Homicide Section of the SCIID, Yaba, in connection with the death of the 43-year-old.

Onyishi, an operative with the Inspector-General of Police Intelligence Response Team, had reportedly visited his friend, who lives in Kirikiri, Apapa, in company with his girlfriend, Faith Adakola.

It was gathered that during the visit, the friend, who is also a policeman, left the lovers at home while he went to work.

Saturday PUNCH learnt that Onyishi suddenly started to behave strangely, stripping himself Unclad.

Adakola was said to have drawn the attention of neighbours, who rallied round the inspector and took him to the Lagos University Teaching Hospital, Idi-Araba.

A source, who is privy to the matter, told our correspondent that Onyishi died at the hospital two days after he was admitted.

He said, “The inspector was a member of IRT. He and his lover visited his friend on October 8. He put up a strange behaviour while the friend was away and he was rushed to LUTH. He gave up the ghost at the hospital. The friend reported the incident to the police. The lover is under investigation. She was the only person with the inspector at the time he started acting weird.”

The state Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Chike Oti, confirmed the widow’s death, adding that the autopsy report was being awaited to ascertain the cause of death.

He said, “The matter is under investigation. The inspector is attached to the Border Petrol Command; he is not serving in Lagos State Police Command. However, the incident happened in Lagos and the case has been transferred to the SCIID in Yaba. They were not having sex. She just slumped and died. She was a widow.”

The PPRO promised to get back to our correspondent with comments on the case of the late Inspector Onyishi.

Not minding the discordant tunes being played by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and scheming regarding which geopolitical zone would produce the president in 2023, mainstream Ndigbo appear unperturbed. They insist they would decide their fate.

In fact, a very reliable source at the apex Igbo socio cultural organisation, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, yesterday, confided in The Guardian that the body was not swayed by ongoing antics as it would soon meet to reveal the path the Igbo would thread regarding the forthcoming 2019 general elections and beyond.

Last Thursday, Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Babatunde Raji Fashola, at a town hall meeting urged the people of South West to vote for President Muhammadu Buhari in the 2019 elections in order to guarantee a return of power to the region in 2023.This view runs contrary to that canvassed earlier in the year by the Secretary to Government of the Federation (SFG), Boss Mustapha, when he promised that the APC would ensure that Igbo produced the president in 2023 should they support the second term aspiration of Buhari.


But in their separate reactions, leading lights in the South East insist that they were focused on the 2019 general elections, and on ensuring the restructuring of the country, just as they alleged that they have always been sidelined by the Buhari- led administration.

“We don’t expect to benefit anything good from Buhari. If Fashola has made this call to the South West with all the cries that Ndigbo have raised so far, then we should come to terms with the fact that such is the thinking of the cabal. It did not start today and we don’t expect it to stop now,” a chieftain of Ohanaeze Ndigbo told The Guardian on ground of anonymity, yesterday.

But the National Chairman of the United Progressives Party (UPP), Chief Chekwas Okorie, suggested the need for Ndigbo to convoke a general meeting on the issue, stressing that, even though there has been a general consensus that Igbo should be allowed to taste power at the centre, he does not expect it to happen without a struggle.

Okorie said: “It is not done turn-by-turn as such. Fashola to my knowledge is using it as a campaign strategy to get the support of the South West for his party. While he was saying so for the South West, Ngige was also saying the same for the South East. Remember that the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Boss Mustapha went to a function in Owerri, Imo State to promise that South East will be made to take over from Buhari in 2023 by the APC. The PDP has not told us anything about 2023. I think it is for Igbo to take the decision and decide on what to do between now and 2023.

“On the side of the UPP we are featuring an Igbo candidate for the Presidency in 2023 and we are poised to achieve it. The rotational thing is unwritten and we are saying that for equity and fairness, the Presidency of the country should be allowed to rotate within the geopolitical zones. It is sad that a particular set of people, who have contributed to the development of the country are perpetually held down in the scheme of things in the country. I have always known that there is contest between zones when it comes to issues of this nature, but for the sake of the continued unity, Igbo should be allowed to produce the country’s president in 2023.”

Former Secretary General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Dr. Joe Nworgu, who queried when Fashola and Ngige were made the spokespersons for the Yoruba and Igbo in the country, explained that the interest of the zone was how to go about 2019 and ensure the restructuring of the country.“Our focus is 2019 and restructuring. Whatever anybody is saying is just a ploy from the same table. Fashola spoke, Ngige spoke, but I want to know when they became spokespersons of the various zones where they come from. The Yoruba and the Igbo should work together to ensure that they achieve restructuring, and 2019 election is a referendum between those who want restructuring and those against restructuring. We have already known the feelings of the two leading political parties, and it is clear what they represent on the issue,” he said.

A chieftain of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Chief Clem Nlemigbo said: “We are not surprised. We have always believed that the APC has no Igbo interest at heart and will always frustrate the zone. It is sad for anybody to begin to believe that only when Ndigbo vote APC will they have the opportunity to become president of the country. APGA is not worried, but is focused on winning the Presidency in 2019 using its candidate.”

Also, president Emeritus, Aka Ikenga, Chief Goddy Uwazuruike said: “It’s possible for South West to get the presidential ticket of APC in 2023. This is because APC is an amalgamation of North West and South West political lords. All the other zones are joiners. For record purposes, the APC was the brainchild of Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu, but at the crucial meeting where the substratum of the party was decided, he was excluded. South East political leaders in APC are mere hangers-on in the corridors of power.

“The power brokers belong to the kitchen cabinet either of the president, or of the party chairman. The Igbo APC leadership merely pretends to be in a position to influence things. Telling the South East that power will shift to it is nothing but lies from the pit of hell. Nobody else made that promise. Even the statement of Boss Mustapha was mere palliative; it is like a mere pat on the back as the party has never made that promise.”

He claimed that, “the entire APC arrangement ab initio never had any worthwhile position for the South East. The South West had the VP, the speaker and the national leader slot. The North West had the president, the North East had the Senate president, the North Central and the South South were ignored. Ndigbo have said it loud and clear that only the party that presents what we want should expect Igbo support. I am in agreement with that.”

Former Minister of Information, Chief Tony Momoh, is of the view that whoever ever wants the Presidency must work hard for that to come to pass.He recalled that APC and President Buhari didn’t get up to 200, 000 votes out of the estimated nine million votes cast in the South East in 2015 because it calculated that PDP will win, while the South West supported the president.

“To give the Presidency to any region depends on the support of the zone because power is not, and cannot be given on a platter of gold. Nobody is going to tell the Igbo to vote for APC because in the next general election, three political parties will be prominent in the South East- the APC, PDP and APGA. If the Igbo people decide to support PDP and APGA and the ruling party eventually retains power till 2023, it would be unthinkable to believe that the Presidency would be conceded to the Igbo at the expense of the Yoruba that gave their support.“For now, even if they support the former vice president (Atiku Abubakar) in next year’s election, that would still not guarantee the region getting the presidency in 2023. The onus is on them to decide whatever they want in the coming presidential election,” he said.

Founding Chairman, South Eastern Peoples Mandate (SEPA), Mr. Campbell Offorbuike Umenzekwe, seems to agree with Momoh that the South East cannot reap when it has failed to sow. Umenzekwe said: “The APC constitution does not recognise zoning of any political position. For example, in the run-up to 2015 presidential primary of the party in Lagos, Governor Rochas Okorocha, participated but lost to Buhari. There is nothing new in what Fashola said to his people in South West, because I believe he is only campaigning for APC to win his region.”

The Publicity Secretary of APC in Lagos, Mr. Joe Igbokwe, has been a strong advocate of Igbo support for Buhari in 2019.According to him, this remains the only way the zone can brighten its chances of getting the Presidency in 2023.He warned that the zone would have itself to blame if it voted against the incumbent next year and lose the opportunity of producing the next president.


According to him, “Politics is a game of numbers and so far the Igbo are in the minority; they must cooperate with other regions to get what they want. 2023 is the closest means for the South East to produce the president and this only depends on their voting pattern in 2019.”

The National Publicity Secretary of Afenifere, Mr. Yinka Odumakin, in his comment on the issue said, “The demand of South East and South West is that Nigeria must be restructured in 2019. Who cares where the president comes from in 2023 after we have restructured. The various sections of the country will be in productive mode to have time for such shenanigans. What would the Presidency do for the people of any section of Nigeria under the present structure than Fashola’s “achievement” in the power sector.

“In the First Republic, Ahmadu Bello declined being Nigeria’s prime minister and opted to be Premier of Northern Region. Yoruba are not children who never tasted soup before who will now soil their garments over stale soup. Restructuring we want!” Former Deputy National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Olabode George, on his part lambasted Fashola accusing him of abdicating his immediate responsibility as Works Minister to meddle into politics.He said if the minister and his party have failed in road construction and rehabilitation jobs across the nation “he should stay clear of politics.”

ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE.

Jesus said unto him, If thou canst believe, all things are possible to him that believeth (Mark 9:23).


Whenever you respond to God on the basis of His Word, you’re sure to have a testimony. That’s because faith is the response of the human spirit to the Word of God.

God’s Word always requires a response from you; that response is the proof that you believe the Word. And to the one who “believes,” anything is possible. That means you can do anything, have anything, go anywhere, be anything, as long as you believe. What is it to believe? Believing has nothing to do with mere mental assent; it’s not passive; it’s active. Believing is an action word; it’s the verb of faith.

The question then is, what do you believe? And what can you believe? It doesn’t matter what the problem is, if you can believe, all things are possible to you, and with you. So, it’s about what you believe. What you believe, you become. Believe that you can be pregnant and bring forth your own children! Believe that you can walk again! Believe that you can see again! Believe that you can be whole again!
Perhaps sickness has attacked your home or you have a loved one that’s suffering terribly from a debilitating ailment, and medical science says there’s no cure. For the Christian, there’s no such thing as “no cure”; nothing is impossible, because anything is possible! You can work a miracle and have a testimony even now.

Instead of crying about the situation, lamenting how dire it is, effect a change by acting on the Word. Put your faith to work. Consider Moses and the children of Israel: the Red Sea was in front of them, with the fierce Egyptian army on their trail. Moses cried unto God for help. But God said, “Moses, stretch your hand over the water and divide it.” Moses did as he was instructed, and the Red Sea split wide open.
It makes no difference what’s before you, or behind you, use the Word to effect a change; calm the storm with the Word. Jesus didn’t say “nothing shall be impossible unto God”; rather, He said, “...nothing shall be impossible unto you” (Matthew 17:20). That means you can do anything, and be everything God has planned for you to be. Hallelujah!

PRAYER

Dear Father, thank you for imparting faith to my spirit, and helping me build it strong with the Word. My faith is alive; there’s nothing impossible unto me; there’re no hopeless situations I can’t change, because I’m strong in faith. Thank you, Lord, for a life of unending victories, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.

Officials said police will now seek a court order to evict Ranil Wickremesinghe, whose security and official cars were also withdrawn by President Maithripala Sirisena on Saturday.

Sri Lanka's sacked prime minister Ranil Wickremesinghe resisted moves to evict him from his official residence, officials said Sunday, as his controversial successor sought blessings at a prominent temple ahead of naming a new cabinet.

The new ruling party had given Wickremesinghe till Sunday morning to leave the Temple Trees official residence following his shock dismissal on Friday that has plunged the Indian Ocean island into constitutional turmoil.
Officials said police will now seek a court order to evict Wickremesinghe, whose security and official cars were also withdrawn by President Maithripala Sirisena on Saturday.
Wickremesinghe had earlier insisted Sirisena's dismissal of him was illegal and demanded an emergency session to prove he still commanded a majority.
Instead, Sirisena shut parliament for nearly three weeks to forestall any challenge against his appointment of former strongman Mahinda Rajapakse as the new prime minister.
Privately-run newspapers on Sunday described Sirisena's move as a "constitutional coup" that has plunged the country into an unprecedented crisis.
All police leave was cancelled as tensions heightened in Colombo and more troops were seen near Temple Trees as well as the president's office.
Western nations have expressed concern and asked all sides to act with restraint and respect the constitution.
Meanwhile, Rajapakse travelled to a highly venerated Buddhist temple in the central district of Kandy to seek blessings from monks before naming a cabinet.
Rajapakse's aides said he was likely to name a few cabinet ministers later Sunday and begin work on Monday. He is yet to make a formal statement or address the nation since being elevated to the new post.
The former strongman is a controversial figure at home and abroad and presided over the crushing of a decades-long Tamil Tiger uprising.

Friends and associates of Cesar Sayoc say he never showed any interest in politics, and suddenly began sharing images of himself on Facebook at Donald Trump campaign events

Cesar Sayoc shared positive sentiments about Donald Trump and attacks on Trump's opponents since 2016.
The first thing that stood out about Cesar Sayoc was his vehicle.
As far back as 2002, lawyer Ronald Lowy recalled, the windows of Sayoc's white Dodge Ram van were covered in stickers of Native American regalia. Though Sayoc was Filipino and Italian, he claimed to be a proud member of the Seminole tribe, Lowy said.
The lie was one of many Sayoc would spread about himself over the years. He falsely claimed to have worked as a Chippendales dancer, and he was once charged with fraud for modifying his driver's license to make it appear he was younger, said Lowy, who represented him in the case. Sayoc seemed to have a new business venture every three months, though none was successful. He worked as a DJ or bouncer at strip clubs, dabbled in bodybuilding, and spent much of the past decade living out of his van, Lowy said.
"He made up stories in order to try to impress people," Lowy said. "He felt like he didn't have a background that he respected or liked."
Then Donald Trump burst onto the political scene.
Sayoc, a 56-year-old Florida man who friends and other associates say had never shown any interest in politics, suddenly began sharing images of himself on Facebook at Trump campaign events. He signed up for Twitter, where he trafficked in conspiracy theories and conservative memes. He registered as a Republican to vote in Florida - Lowy said he believes it was for the first time in Sayoc's life - in 2016. He traded out his Native American decals for ones that supported Trump.
"Had no interest in politics, was always at the night clubs, the gyms, wherever he thought he could meet people, impress people. And along came the presidential campaign of Donald Trump, who welcomed all extremists, all outsiders, all outliers, and he felt that somebody was finally talking to him," Lowy said.
On Friday, federal authorities arrested Sayoc and charged him with sending more than a dozen potential bombs to various Democratic and media figures who have been critical of Trump. Though none of the devices exploded, the incidents inflamed the partisan tension gripping the country ahead of midterm elections and raised the fear that politicians' incendiary rhetoric was inspiring physical violence. Liberals charged that was the fault of the president, of whom Sayoc was clearly a devoted follower. Conservatives, meanwhile, said their opponents and media figures bore responsibility for increasing the rancor.
Sayoc is expected to appear in federal court in Miami for the first time Monday afternoon.
Federal officials declined to say what they believe motivated Sayoc, though Attorney General Jeff Sessions called the incident one of "political violence" and said Sayoc "appears to be a partisan." Sayoc declined to speak when first approached by investigators and quickly asked for a lawyer, a law enforcement official said.
Long before Sayoc was political, he was troubled.
He was charged with several crimes throughout the years, including theft, battery, fraud and steroid possession, according to court records and interviews with his previous lawyers. Lowy said that when he was asked to represent Sayoc in 2002, it was because Sayoc - then running a laundromat - had failed to pay his electric bill and threatened to bomb Florida Power & Light. A police report alleges Sayoc said the incident would be "worse than Sept. 11 [2001]."
Lowy said his initial thought of the allegation was: "What type of crazy terrorist is this?"
"And then this man comes into my office carrying a scrapbook of pictures of people he had pictures with, driving a vehicle like no one's vehicle looks, and I realized I had an oddball here," Lowy said. "In 2002, he said stupid things, but he wasn't yet a bomber. Is it a sign that he used the words? Maybe it's a sign of what he could become."
Theresa Sharp-Russell, Sayoc's aunt, told The Washington Post on Saturday that she knew her nephew struggled with mental health issues - his mood can soar and then crash, she said - but was not sure if he had ever gotten a diagnosis. Sharp-Russell, a real estate broker, said she last talked with Sayoc 12 years ago, when she sold him a house in Fort Lauderdale.
At the time, she said, he seemed pulled together. He covered his mortgage for two years. Then the payments stopped, and the bank seized the property. After that, Sharp-Russell said, he bought a blue van. She was not sure how long he had been driving the white one - which at the time of his arrest was covered in stickers of Trump and images of his critics with red targets over them.
"If I would have seen that, I would have called the cops," she said. "That's how scary it is."
Sharp-Russell, who has lived in the area for 30 years, said Sayoc did not seem dangerous back then. Sure, he would fight with his mom and cousins. But he would also crack jokes and show her respect - though he was a bit of a loner, she recalled.
"He was sweet," she said.
Sharp-Russell said that, politically, their family leans left, and her sister told her Sayoc did, too.
"He's a poor soul and probably just wanted attention," she said. "Maybe he figured Trump was a stand-in father."
Lowy, who now represents Sayoc's mother and his two sisters, said Sayoc's father left when he was a child and was not involved in his life. Lowy said Sayoc's mother and other family members prodded Sayoc "to get mental help, counseling, to look for therapy, to stop making up stories, and every time they tried to make a suggestion, he would get angry." The last time they spoke - more than three years ago - Lowy said Sayoc told his mother that he hated her.
Sayoc, though, apparently continued to live nearby. His van became something of a well-known spectacle in the parking lot of the Waterway Shoppes in Aventura, Florida, less than three miles from his mother's condominium complex. Steve Coltune, who often walks his dog past the lot, said Sayoc "parked way in the corner, in an inconspicuous spot. But the van was such an eyesore, you couldn't miss it."
"I took pictures of it and sent them to my friends," Coltune said. "It was really weird. It looked like a hoarder's vehicle."
Sayoc attended some college in North Carolina and worked intermittently over the past 20 years as a DJ and bodyguard at strip clubs around South Florida, those who worked with him say - starting out as the person who provides security for dancers and scoops cash off the stage.
Stacy Saccal, the general manager at Ultra Gentlemen's Club in West Palm Beach, where Sayoc worked for the past two months, said Sayoc came recommended by someone at another club, and he was "a super nice guy." She said he worked his last shift on the Thursday before his arrest.
"He was funny, he was entertaining," Saccal said. "The situation is strange, it's unbelievable."
But Michael Jay, a DJ who knew him years ago, said Sayoc appeared to be into some "shady, nasty stuff," and he generally tried to steer clear of him.
"He was like the guy who ran around following the crowd instead of leading the crowd," he said. "That's the way he acted."
Scott Meigs, a DJ at Ultra, not far from the Trump International Golf Course, said he knew Sayoc from previous gigs - though they had been out of touch for a few years before reconnecting at Ultra in the past month.
Sayoc, Meigs said, had a sudden new interest.
"When I hooked up with him here at this club, he started talking politics all the time," Meigs said. "Just stuff, trying to get people to vote for Republicans. If he was watching something on the news, he'd say, 'see, see.' "
Meigs said Sayoc agreed to pick up a shift from him on Thursday, and he showed a reporter texts the two exchanged about it. The texts show Sayoc urging Meigs to vote for Republican Ron DeSantis in the upcoming Florida gubernatorial election. He said he was unaware of the stickers on Sayoc's van, which was typically parked far away. Some employees, he said, assumed it was an ice cream truck.
It is unclear precisely when Sayoc's interest in politics began, though his social media suggests it appeared to intensify alongside Trump's presidential campaign.
On June 18, 2015, his Facebook account expressed early enthusiasm for Trump, who announced his candidacy for president two days earlier. "Donald Trump the nxt great president all native red man tribes support and Billion followers," the account said, according to images provided to The Post by Columbia University social media researcher Jonathan Albright, who downloaded them Friday before Facebook removed the information. Sayoc created one Twitter account on May 20, 2016, and he soon began sharing positive sentiments about Trump and attacks on Trump's opponents.
The posts are a mixture of wild conspiracy theories and hints of violence. He tweeted dozens of times about former president Barack Obama, former president Bill Clinton, former secretary of state Hillary Clinton, former attorney general Eric Holder, liberal billionaire George Soros and Rep. Maxine Waters, D-Calif. All of them were recipients of potential explosives. He seemed to harbor a particular disdain for Hollywood and the media - responding to an article about a shooting at the Capital Gazette newspaper in Maryland with the message, "If it were lying BS news long overdo."
Lowy said he believed Sayoc found a home, albeit a dark one, in the world of conservative trolls.
"This is someone who didn't fit into society," Lowy said. "This is someone that needed to be reached out to. He got lost, and sadly, he got found by the wrong group."
In hindsight, Meigs, the DJ at Ultra, said he realized Sayoc had acted oddly in recent days. On Thursday, Meigs said a dancer walked up to ask how Sayoc was doing when he was near his van, and Sayoc would not let her look inside. When Sayoc played his set that night, he let songs run for an unusually long seven or eight minutes, and the dancers reported he was looking down and fumbling with materials in the booth, Meigs said. He said he noticed on Sunday that Sayoc had two large duffel bags, even though the only equipment he needed for his work was a laptop and a hard drive.
"I just thought he was being passionate about the upcoming election," Meigs said. "I thought that was good, we all should get out and vote, you know, if you're passionate about the thing, I understand. But God, but the way he went, that's totally insane."
Meigs said the FBI had been at the club Friday interviewing employees. The FBI has said they linked Sayoc to the devices via a fingerprint and a possible DNA match, though they have not detailed where he got the materials or if the devices he made could have actually functioned.
"I never asked him, but I was curious about what was in the bags," Meigs said. "They were very big and solid."

Ireland re-elected its president for a second term, official results showed on Saturday, despite a surge in support for the runner-up after controversial comments targeted at the Irish Traveller ethnic minority.
Michael D. Higgins, a left-wing former arts minister who enjoyed the support of three of the four largest political parties, easily won re-election to the largely ceremonial role with 56 percent of the vote, the electoral commission said.
Media coverage had focused on the surge in support for independent businessman Peter Casey, who came second with 23 percent of the vote, up from 2 percent in an opinion poll just days earlier.
Commentators linked the surge to his comments on Irish Travellers, one of the most marginalised groups in society, who he said did not pay their fair share of taxes and generally camped on other people's land.
Traveller advocacy group Pavee Point said the surge should send out a warning to the Irish political system, one of the few in Europe that has not experienced a surge in far-right political parties in recent years.
"It is important that we also do not gloss over the fact that one candidate sought to exploit prejudice against a small and marginalized community," the group said in a statement welcoming Higgins' re-election.
Casey on Saturday told journalists he did not believe the comments were responsible for the surge in support and said they could not be racist as he did not regard Travellers as a different race.

President Muhammadu Buhari, former vice president Atiku Abubakar and 74 others have been named as contestants for the 2019 presidential poll in the provisional list released by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
A total of 76 political parties will contest for presidency in 2019 general elections, according to the INEC publication.
The list, released, yesterday, in compliance with Section 31 (1 and 3) of the Electoral Act, 2010 (as amended), also named Governor of Ogun State, Ibikunle Amosun, former governor Sam Egwu, Victor Umeh, Stella Oduah, Uche Ekwenife, and others as candidates for the National Assembly in their various states.
In Anambra Central Senatorial district, the published candidates are Charles Odunukwe of the Peoples Democratic (PDP), Chief Umeh of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) and Mrs. Ekwunife of All Progressives Congress (APC).
In South Senatorial district, a serving senator, Andy Uba of the APC, Chukwunedum Ubah of the PDP and Nicholas Ukachukwu of APGA made the list.
For North Senatorial district, a former senator, Margery Okadigbo of the APC, Mrs. Oduah of the PDP and Chinedu Emeka of APGA made the provisional list.
In Ogun State, only the list of senatorial and House of Representatives candidates of the APC and that of the ADC were available at the INEC office in the state.
The list of PDP National Assembly candidates, was however, not available as at press time last night.
For the ADC, the senatorial candidates on the INEC list include the former Speaker of the House of Assembly, Titi Oseni-Gomez as candidate in Ogun Central, Adedeji Ashiru, Ogun East and Babatunde Ogunnola, Ogun West.
For the House of Representatives, ADC would field Fasasi Oyemade, Remo Federal Constituency, Olaifa Aremu, Egbado North/ Imeko-Afon, Abiodun Akinboyede, Ado-Odo/Ota Federal Constituency, Gabriel Omolaja, Ijebu Ode/ Ijebu North East/Odogbolu, Ogundimu Akande, Abeokuta South, Olude Adewale, Egbado South/ Ipokia, Omoleye Olabode, Abeokuta North, Obafemi-Owode/Odeda and Jenriyi Oshinowo, Ijebu North/ Ijebu East/ Ogun Waterside. The candidate for Ifo/ Ewekoro Federal Constituency was not published on the INEC list.
Those to fly the APC senatorial flag are Lekan Mustapha, Ogun East, the incumbent Chief of Staff to Governor Ibikunle Amosun, Tolu Odebiyi, Ogun West, while Governor Amosun would vie for Ogun Central.
For the House of Representatives, Jimoh Ojugbele, Kayode Oladele and Ibrahim Isiaka would slug it to be returned to Ado-Odo/Ota, Egbado North/Imeko-Afon and Ifo/Ewekoro federal constituencies, respectively.
Others include: Biyi Otegbeye, Egbado South/ Ipokia, Biyi Ismail, Ijebu North/East/Ogun Waterside, Olumide Osoba, Abeokuta North/Obafemi-Owode/ Odeda, Olanrewaju Edun, Abeokuta South, Adewunmi Onanuga, Remo federal constituency and Osunsanya Akorede, Ijebu Ode/Ijebu North and Odogbolu federal constituency.
Head of the Public Affairs Department of INEC in Lagos, Femi Akinbiyi, revealed that 50 candidates would contest for the three Lagos Senatorial seats on the platform of 25 political parties and 249 candidates across 30 political parties would contest the state’s 24 seats in the House of Representatives.
Lagos West Senatorial District has 22 candidates, Lagos East and Lagos Central 15 and 13 candidates respectively.
For the House of Representatives election, only the PDP, APC and ADC fielded candidates in all the 24 federal constituencies.
Ebonyi, Kogi, Oyo
Top on the list of candidates displayed as eligible to contest the National Assembly seats in Ebonyi State on the ticket of the PDP are Dr. Sam Egwu for Ebonyi North and his counterpart for Ebonyi Central, Senator Obinna Ogba.
In the APC, a former senator and pioneer speaker of the state, Julius Ucha made it for Ebonyi Central.
It could not be confirmed whether former Minister of State for Power and Steel, Chief Godwin Ogbaga eventually made the list as APC candidate for Ebonyi North.
In Benue, INEC’s State Public Relations Officer, Terka Andya, said the list will be posted in all the 23 local government headquarters of the state.
Andya in a telephone chat said that already, the list had been posted in zones A and C of the state while staff of the Commission are working assiduously to ensure that the list for zone B is posted before midnight to meet the deadline given by the INEC chairman.
He assured that by today, everyone would have access to the list which would be pasted on the notice boards in all the local government offices of INEC across the state.
The Kogi State office of INEC only published the list of all the presidential candidates. It was gathered that a comprehensive list of all the candidates will be published on or before Saturday.
The situation was not the same in Enugu State when Daily Sun visited the Independence Layout office of the commission by 8pm; as the list was yet to be displayed.
Attempts to reach the state Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Emeka Ononamadu was not fruitful.
The REC for Oyo State, Mutiu Agboke, led a delegation of INEC officials to paste the list of presidential candidates and photocopies of their credentials at the state headquarters of the commission.

He said the lists of candidates for Senatorial and House of Representatives would be pasted today at local government offices of the commission across the state.

Head of Voters Education and Publicity in Zamfara State INEC office, Garba Galadima, said the office was yet to receive the list.

He said the most recent list the office received from the INEC headquarters was the claims and objectives list of all the Senate and House of Representatives aspirants in the state.

“The new list we have is those pasted outside the gate”, he said.

The list pasted outside the Zamfara INEC office is stamped and dated October 17, 2018.
However, if INEC follow through its threat, APC might not field candidates for any of the position owing to its failure to conduct primary elections.

According to reports, a young man identified as Ochoche Dickson Iduh who just completed his mandatory National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) program and served in Plateau state (Jos), met his untimely death yesterday where he went to show his discharged letter to his both parents in the city of Otukpo, Benue state.

According to New-Nigeria Reporters, the deceased was killed along two others by unknown gunmen in Ojira Otukpo on Friday morning.

It was gathered that the deceased among the batch B stream 2 Corps members, had gone home to present his NYSC discharge certificate to his parents who based in Otukpo before he eventually met his untimely death yesterday.

According to reports, the young graduate from Apa local government area of Benue State holds a Higher Hational Diploma (HND) in Business Administration from the famous Benue State Polytechnic, Ugbokolo.

Lagos – The South-West Zone of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has urged the party’s presidential candidate, Alhaji Abubakar, to give more key positions to the zone if he emerges as president. 

The South-West Vice-Chairman of the party, Dr Eddy Olefeso, made the demand in Lagos on Friday night, at a meeting of key members across the six states in the zone. 

The meeting, which lasted hours, had in attendance a former Deputy National Chairman of the party, Chief Olabode George; the current Deputy National Chairman (South),Chief Yemi Akinwonmi; and a former National Vice Chairman of the party, Alhaji Tajudeen Oladipo. 

Also present were former Minister of State for Defence, Mrs Sola Obada; a former Deputy Governor of Ogun State, Alhaja Makanjuola Badru; and a member of the National Assembly, Sen. Abiodun Olujimi. 

The party’s governorship candidate in Oyo State, Mr Seyi Makinde; the governorship candidate in Ogun, Mr Ladi Adebutu; and a former governorship aspirant in Osun State, Chief Akin Ogunbiyi, were also at the meeting, among others. Olafeso said though the promise of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) slot by Atiku was a good development, the zone deserved more key political and government positions. 

The Vice-Chairman said that the zone had been schemed out in the power arrangement of the party for the past few years. 

Olafeso said for Atiku to give the zone a sense of belonging and compensate “for the years of abandonment”, he should zone key positions of the Chief of Staff to the President and Àttorney-General of the Federation to the South-West in addition to the SGF. 

He said the South-West had the second highest voting population in the country and would demand its fair share of political positions if PDP wins in 2019. 

“We have been denied for too long. In 2011, the country under the control of our party zoned the position of the Speaker of the House of Representatives to the zone and it was taken away. 

“And from 2011 to 2015, we were left just like that and the reverberating effect of that abandonment is the reason why we are still having the hangover of neglect till today. 

“Now we are here again, the party is working with a zone with 14million votes, the second largest in the country. We refuse and we will not accept where we finish the job in the next election and for one reason or the other, we will not be considered. 

“We don’t have to wait till after the election before we say what we want. We want to let the party and our candidate know that certain positions are strategic to governance and we want them.

“Yes, the SGF is great, but there is nothing wrong with having the Chief of Staff and Attorney-General on top of it to compensate us for the denials of the past, so that all of us can work as a united front. 

“We will continue to fight for it, we will speak with a loud voice. We give so much, so the zone deserves a lot,” he said. 

While congratulating Abubakar on his emergence as presidential candidate, Olafeso said the zone was pleased with the choice of Obi, a former governor of Anambra State, as his running mate. He said the country was faced with serious economic challenges, and Obi had the pedigree that could realise the party’s economic vision for Nigeria. 

Olafeso said the zone was concerned about the travails of former governor of Ekiti State, Mr Ayodele Fayose with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), over a case. 

He urged members of the party to stand with Fayose at his trying moment, saying the former governor was paying for being truthful and standing against injustice. “I was in the court the last time and I am glad to tell you that he has been granted bail.

“We will do our best to ensure that he perfects his bail conditions and he is released soon,” he said. 

Olafeso also said he was confident that the verdicts of the Osun and Ekiti governorship elections, where the All Progressives Congress was declared winner in both polls, would be upturned at the tribunal. Olafeso urged members to be leave behind post-primaries disagreements and work together to ensure the party’s victory in 2019. He said the party had come out of its recent factional crisis to emerge strong, expressing the confidence that it would dislodge APC in 2019. 

Akinwonmi, on his part, said the party was working assiduously hard to wrestle power from the APC in 2019. He, however, said the party executive could not do it alone, calling on all members to do their bit to help achieve the electoral goal.(NAN)

Before I go on, let me tell a true life story. In 2014, I was on a bus ride with the current Minister of Transport, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi and a few others. We were on our way to view a suitable office for the Muhammadu Buhari Presidential Campaign office in Abuja. As always, discussions dovetailed from one topic to another. The one I will never forget was when the then Governor of Rivers State, Amaechi, suddenly turned to me and asked my opinion on whether Buhari should drop the title ‘General’ from his name. Amaechi did not say what was behind that thought, but I suspected that many people felt it could be an albatross being a sad reminder of his days as a military dictator. Some young folks in the bus had apparently suggested this to the Governor as brand consultants but I responded by disagreeing vehemently.

“Why would a man drop his greatest achievement in life?” I asked rhetorically, with a straight poker face. There was pin drop silence. I fired on “so what do you now want to call Buhari, Mister, Chief, Dr. or what? I think the title ‘General’ can even be funkified by us by referring to him as “the People’s General…” I humbly suggested. There was general excitement and consensus, thereafter. That day, it was clear that we were all very happy and delighted to be working for the victory of a man we believed had learnt his lessons after being unceremoniously sacked in a military coup 30 years earlier.

For the sake of those who do not know what happened between 1983 and 1985, let me summarise the history and story of that period. On December 31, 1983, a military coup was heralded by a certain Colonel Sani Abacha. I had never heard his name before then, and I’m sure not many Nigerians did. The coup brought an abrupt end to the President Shehu Shagari government and its reckless and profligate ruling party, the National Party of Nigeria (NPN). A general election held barely months to the coup had been heavily rigged by the NPN and such unheard of adjectives like “landslide and moonslide” were used to describe the outcome. Nigerians were shocked to their marrow, but the government of the day could not be bothered. Therefore, it was not a big surprise when the stern-faced Abacha made his announcement on the last day of 1983 and a Brigadier Muhammadu Buhari was soon declared as the new Military Head of State.

The Buhari regime immediately made a “war against corruption and indiscipline” its signature mantra. Draconian Decrees were promulgated. Military tribunals were set up and pronto, politicians, businessmen and journalists were thrown into detention, summarily prosecuted and convicted. Huge sentences were manufactured and handed out like popcorn or confetti. Many Nigerians initially welcomed this Messiah, Buhari, and his deputy, Angel Brigadier Tunde Idiagbon, who had come to rescue Nigeria from political demons and other prodigal children. Everyone screamed “crucify them…” It was such a sweet refrain, but the honeymoon period was soon over, and Nigerians started groaning under the yoke of repressive laws, squalid and degrading detention camps, atrocious sentences, unjustifiable double standards, myopic and visionless economic policies, beggarly supplies, rationing of essential commodities, a mindless clampdown on the Press, and so on. Buhari and his deputy, Idiagbon were on rampage, out of supposed righteous indignation at the way Nigerians and Nigeria had been defiled and desecrated by the political class and businessmen. They studiously ignored all entreaties to temper justice with mercy.

To cut a long story short, Nigerians groaned and moaned and cried for deliverance from this bitter, brash and brutish government. This was the opportunity Ibrahim Babangida and company needed to strike and they took full advantage, sacked the Buhari government almost effortlessly in a palace coup.

Upon learning of the cataclysmic fall of that government, Nigerians spilled into the streets in wild jubilation. History would record many reasons the government failed woefully. Let me briefly mention a few. The discipline it sought to instil was lopsided and discriminatory. In a country that is totally neurotic about ethnicity and religion, President Shagari was placed under house arrest, but his Vice President, Dr Alex Ekwueme, and many other Southern politicians were kept in prison under the most excruciating conditions, in a most bizarre act of man’s inhumanity to man. Many of the prisoners, like Governor Bisi Onabanjo of Ogun State, became human skeletons and walking corpses. Some, such as Governor Ambrose Alli of Bendel State, suffered irreparable or even fatal damages to their health. Laws were made in typical Orwellian fashion, in which all animals were supposed to be equal, but some were more equal than others. The Big Brother kept watch over the animals, but allowed some to enjoy unbelievable privileges, including, allegedly, the Emir of Gwandu, who contrived to bring in 53 suitcases into the country without being searched, contrary to Buhari’s law at the time, because his son was the Aide-de-Camp (ADC) to Buhari. Fela, the legendary musician was jailed under the flimsiest of pretexs. Two journalists, Tunde Thompson and Nduka Irabor were jailed as warning to other would be troublemakers. The list of atrocities was long and endless.

The government ran a voodoo economic misadventure and the economy nosedived and collapsed with debilitating consequences. It was a policy of “do as I say and not as I do…” Babangida crept in and dismantled the unfriendliness of that government. In fact, Babangida’s attraction was being the opposite of what Buhari represented. Babangida assembled the most cerebral Nigerians and ran a government of intellectuals who could challenge him, policy for policy. Even known critics were attracted to work for their countrt. Back to Buhari, the regime went into oblivion and a sad place in our history, or so it seemed.

Babangida’s government itself ended tragically by overstaying its welcome. Perhaps, had Babangida allowed the 1993 elections to hold in peace, and not in pieces, Nigeria won’t be in this mess today. Over-tinkering with the political process led to endless conflagration.

It is not known at what point Buhari started nursing his ambition to run back to power. He probably suffered from withdrawal syndrome like other Generals who at different times attempted to return to the hallowed corridors of power. For example, Major-General Shehu Musa Yar’Adua (died without realising his dream), General Olusegun Obasanjo (returned by the conspiracy of the military Mafiosi and almost bagged a third term, in the kitty), General Ibrahim Babangida (couldn’t muster enough support from Obasanjo, the capo di tutti capi, and others, so quickly beat a hasty retreat), Lt. General Aliyu Gusau (silent power house, highly regarded in intelligence circles). In the event, General Buhari contested a record four times and eventually won in 2015.

It is ironic that a man who was brusquely booted out of power 30 years earlier was brought back in a haze of glory. His triumphant re-entry into the Nigerian political sphere and space will remain one of the most mysterious miracles of this century. The best way to describe it would be that Nigerians were victims of mass hypnotism and “collective amnesia”. Please, let me succinctly explain, again. Today is a day for going down memory lane. The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) handed power on a platter of gold to Buhari. Some of us had written all the English in the lexicon warning of the danger ahead if the ruling party did not reduce its profligacy and pugnacity. Just as the Party went on a binge and wasted resources, it also suffered another calamity by not keeping its house in order. Nigerians got increasingly frustrated and desperately wanted a terminal end to a ruling Party that boasted it would rule eternally. It was this desperation that catapulted Buhari back to power, warts and all.

I remember some of our deliberations after Amaechi and company stormed out of the PDP. That was the beginning of the end. PDP, in its state of cockiness did not envisage the catastrophe that awaited it in the near future. Amaechi and friends tactically aligned with a few other parties like ACN, ANPP and CPC to form APC. I will forever salute the total commitment of two people in particular, Amaechi and Dr Bukola Saraki, the current Senate President. The combination of both was lethal. I was honoured to participate in a few of their meetings. They were responsible for attracting a lot of the younger folk to Buhari. Many of the questions people asked about Buhari included: does he have intellectual capacity to run a modern government?; what business did he run in the last 30 years?; will he discriminate or seek revenge against supposed enemies?; has he purged himself of dictatorial tendencies?; will he be an ethnic bigot?; a religious fanatic coming to Islamise Nigeria?; etc,. We devised a general and standard response to the myriad of thought-provoking queries – “General Buhari is a born-again democrat…” – and we stuck to our guns, even if not totally assured or convinced about the true nature and status of the last saint standing. We were driven by our blind faith and the hope that Baba must have learnt useful lessons in 30 years and had had time to reflect on the things he did wrong in the past and what he plans to do right in the future.

The clincher for many of us was the invitation and inclusion of Professor Yemi Osinbajo, a renowned scholar, legal luminary, seasoned administrator and revered priest of the Christian faith. To every known or imagined defect in Buhari, we found a foil, an antithesis, and counter-solution in Osinbajo. We assumed their relationship was going to pan out like that of the symbiotic relationship of Buhari and Idiagbon, and that Osinbajo would be the guiding spirit and stabilising force of the government. No one reckoned with a hidden cabal while Amaechi, Tinubu, Saraki and others sweated profusely to make Buhari President. Not that we were not warned by those who should know because they were close to him, once upon a time.

Anyway, the rest is now history. Baba realised his ambition and we were all elated. But as in the proverbial death of the elephant, no sooner did Baba assume office than everyone, including strangers to the party, surfaced with knives and plates to cut their portions. I was stunned when, systematically, even Amaechi was being blocked by some of those who used to loiter in his corridor begging for mobilisation. A new power block suddenly emerged. On several occasions, I approached Amaechi and sympathised with his gradual and steady banishment from the inner caucus, but my man had, and still has, incurable faith in Buhari. The President is his hero who could do no wrong, so he ignored all the other distractions. The tragedy of APC was in alienating most of the powerful forces that brought it to fruition. Things fell apart too quickly. Ill-health also slowed Baba down and threw up some over-zealous and ambitious people who seized upon the lacuna to govern by proxy.

I also suspect the existence of a fifth columnist within government who programmed everything to fail. The many fractious and fracticidal wars that broke out were totally unnecessary. Again, the battle against corruption could have been fought differently. Before the election, there was a tacit understanding that the Change government was going to tackle the scourge of corruption differently, that it was not going to be selective and that the priority would be on recovering the loot across board, irrespective of party affiliations. Punitive measures were only going to be unleashed on those who refuse to give back a substantial chunk of their loot.

Baba was going to demonstrate his new avowed embrace of democratic and nationalistic credentials in order to dispel the fears of those who believe a leopard can never change its spots. It is strange and inexplicable how the massive goodwill was frittered away in no time. Today, the President and his Party are merely struggling to put up an appearance. Even his most fastidious supporters admit in private that only a miracle and unprecedented rigging can bring them back to power in 2019. The objective ones agree that those who did not vote for Buhari in 2015 will never vote for him in 2019, while many of those who did will no longer do so next year. The ruling Party has been shattered into smithereens. Not even PDP was this divided in its journey towards Golgotha. I don’t know, since I’m not God, what game plan APC has for the rest of its first-term, but these are perilous times for a Party that willy-nilly blew its humongous chances on the altar of intolerance, vengefulness, selfishness and disregard for the rule of Law, such that very few now seem to care about the giant strides and major achievements of the government.

Nigerians need nationalists, democrats and performers, not ethnic jingoists, vengeful autocrats and struggling performers. It is not impossible for this administration to draw back from the precipice and the Buhari administration still has a few months to woo Nigerians again. Those who can still pray should intercede on its behalf. As for me and my house, we shall offer The Lord’s Prayer…

A Nigerian man stripped Unclad after being stopped by police officers on Friday morning (yesterday) in Corso Garibaldi, Milan in Italy. According to reports, the 24-year-old Nigerian migrant was stopped after he increased his pace and tried to run on sighting police officers on patrol duty.

It was gathered that after the police stopped him, they asked him of his documents before he allegedly responded aggressively. 

In the course of the police searching him, he undressed himself and stripped Unclad while screaming and cursing them in a Nigerian language, according to police reports. 

It was scooped that despite the embarrassment, the policemen still requested he showed them his complete papers but he continued cursing them in his mother tongue and allegedly hit the officers. 

The policemen were forced to arrest and take him to the station were he was detained.

Nigeria Loses $10 billion Revenue to Obsolete Oil, Gas Law

The Chairman of the Senate Committee on Petroleum Resources, Upstream, Donald Omotayo Alasoadura, said thursday that Nigeria has lost no less than $10 billion revenue in the last 18 years due to obsolete law in the sector.

Alasoadura, the senator representing Ondo Central Senatorial District stated this in Akure, Ondo State while delivering the 12th Annual Lecture of School of Engineering and Engineering Technology of the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA).


The lecture was entitled “Framework for the Development of Nigeria Oil and Gas Industry; Challenges and Opportunities”.

Alasoadura said the present law in the petroleum sector was passed in 1950 and is ineffectual.

Alasoadura said the country may lose more if the four bills presented before the National Assembly is not passed and assented to by the President.

He lamented that despite the loss of the revenue running into billions of Naira, the previous sessions of the National Assembly have failed to conclude the legislative consideration of the petroleum industry reform.

According to the senator, the four bills before the National Assembly, which aimed to reform the oil sector, included Petroleum Industry Governance Bill, Petroleum Industry Administration Bill, Petroleum Industry Fiscal Bill and Petroleum Host and Impacted Communities Bill.

Alasoadura said there are imminent dangers if the bills are not passed or signed into law before the end of the present legislative year.

He identified the negative consequences of not passing the bill to include the steady and progressive decline in revenue accruable to government, continuous decline in production and reserves, deferment or core investment and increase in the divestments by the oil majors.

Others, he said included the Nigeria’s loss of regional and global competitiveness, continuity and increase in the crisis in the midstream and downstream, steady industry-wide loss of jobs, insufficient gas for power generation and other domestic use and the possibility of the return of destructive militancy activities and community agitation.

Alasoadura said the legal framework being proposed provides “a robust framework consisting of legal, institutional, operational and fiscal framework for the development of the Nigeria oil and gas industry.”

He expressed optimism that the four bills if passed into law would provide the opportunities for total transformation of the Nigerian oil and gas industry, attract substantial investment at this critical time that such investments are required to stimulate growth in the industry with its concomitant effect on other sectors of the Nigerian economy.

The Senator asked the traditional rulers, academics and the oil producing communities to put pressure on President Muhammadu Buhari to sign the bill of Petroleum Industry Governance Bill which had been passed into law by the National Assembly.

Also, he said the outdated law made it possible for several agencies to carry out the same regulatory functions which have resulted in inefficiency, conflict of roles and multiplicity of regulatory shops.

The immediate past governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose who was granted bail by the Lagos Division of the Federal High Court on October 24th will spend the weekend in prison as he failed to meet his bail condition before the close of work on Friday. 

Fayose who is facing an 11-count charge of conspiracy and money laundering amounting to ?2.2 billion was granted a N50 million bail and the judge ordered that he should provide two sureties who must issue a ?50 million bond in a reputable bank as well as possess three years tax clearance. She also directed that the former governor deposits his international passport with the court. 

However, Fayose, who pleaded not guilty to all the charges leveled against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has struggled to meet the bail conditions and could not do so on Friday before close of business. 

His media aide, Lere Olayinka on Friday afternoon tweeted, 'on Fayose's bail, as at 2pm today, all necessary documents were filed before the court and verified. Hopefully, he should be out of custody by Monday. We thank Nigerians for their support'.

He will therefore spend the weekend at the Ikoyi Prison in Lagos, where he is currently being held.

Quote:The police in Lagos have arrested an 18-year-old barber, Bakare Ismail, for allegedly defiling his neighbour, a 14-year-old girl.

Ismail had reportedly lured the girl, Bidemi (pseudonym), to his parents’ residence on Banjo Street, Owutu in the Ikorodu area of the state on Saturday, October 13, around 4pm.

While the victim was seated, Ismail allegedly offered her a soft drink laced with a sedative. She was said to have slept off minutes after taking the drink.

Saturday PUNCH leant that the suspect had sex with Bidemi, who reportedly woke up to find bloodstains on her pants.

The incident was reported at the Gender Section of the Lagos State Police Command headquarters in Ikeja.

The victim told the police that she was running an errand for her aunt when Ismail, who lives in the next compound, approached her and demanded to have a talk with her.

She said she went back to him after delivering the message her aunt sent her.

“While I was in his apartment, he offered me a soft drink which I drank. As we were talking, I did not know when I slept off. When I woke up, I saw bloodstains on my clothes. I rushed home to change my clothes.

“I was crying because I knew my aunt would punish me if she knew I had been raped.”

However, the suspect denied committing the crime, adding that he did not give Bidemi any drink that day.

“I was not at home throughout that day. My dad was not around either.He locked up the house before he left. So, I did not have sex with her. She was lying,” he added.

Our correspondent learnt that the victim was taken to Mirabel Centre in Ikeja, where a test conducted on her reportedly revealed that there was a laceration in her private parts.

Ismail was consequently brought before an Ikeja Magistrate’s Court by a police prosecutor, Inspector Benson Emuehi, on one count of defilement.

The charge read, “That you, Bakare Ismail, on October 13, 2018, at 1600hrs, on Banjo Street, Owutu, Ikorodu, Lagos, in the Lagos Magisterial District, did unlawfully defile a 14-year-old girl, thereby committing an offence punishable under Section 137 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.”

The presiding magistrate, Mrs. O. Sule-Hamzat, did not take the plea of the defendant.

She held that he be remanded in prison custody and the case file forwarded to the office of the Directorate of Public Prosecutions for legal advice.

The case was adjourned till December 20, 2018.

THE LIGHT AND HOPE OF THE WORLD BY PASTOR CHRIS OYAKHILOME.


And saviours shall come up on mount Zion to judge the mount of Esau; and the kingdom shall be the LORD’s (Obadiah 1:21).

When the Bible says, “saviours shall come up from mount Zion,” it brings to mind the words of Jesus that you’re the salt of the earth, and the light of the world (Matthew 5:13 & 14). This means that it makes no difference the darkness and problems in the world, you’re the hope and the solution that the world needs. The problems and hardship in the world today are your opportunities to shine and manifest the glory of God.

No wonder Jesus said, “Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven” (Matthew 5:16). He said in John 9:5, “As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world.” Then in Matthew 5:14, He said, “Ye are the light of the world….” That means, like Him, you’re a saviour to your world; as long as you’re in the world, you’re the light of the world. What does light do?

Light gives direction; it describes. You’re the one to show the world how to live, what to do, and how to be successful, irrespective of the darkness, because Philippians 2:15 says, “That ye may be blameless and harmless, the sons of God, without rebuke, in the midst of a crooked and perverse nation, among whom ye shine as lights in the world.” In John 8:12, Jesus said, “…I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.” Then in John 20:21, He said, “…as my Father hath sent me, even so send I you.”

The Lord Jesus did His part in obtaining salvation for all men through His vicarious death and glorious resurrection. Now, it’s your responsibility to tell others about His saving power. That, really, is the solution to the problems in today’s world: the Gospel of Jesus Christ! There’s no greater light than the light of His righteousness with which we must light up everyone in our world.

Let the Gospel-fire burn in you, and through you; you’re God’s hands of love, mercy and compassion to the world. You’re the light and hope of the world!

PRAYER

Blessed be God! I’m divinely positioned as the light and hope of an ailing world! Through me, the unsaved in my world hear and receive the light of the Gospel, and are transformed and turned from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan unto God, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.

The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation has reacted to reports that it gave cash gifts to President Muhammadu Buhari's Campaign Organisation.

The Management of Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) has distanced its Group Managing Director, Dr Maikanti Baru, from alleged cash transfer to President Muhammadu Buhari’s Campaign Organisation to support publicity.
 
The corporation disclosed this in a statement signed by its spokesman, Mr Ndu Ughamadu, in Abuja, on Friday.
 
It described the allegation as politically-induced hallucination which had found accommodation in the subconscious of some mischievous political actors.
 
It said that the people also intended on dragging the corporation and the GMD into the “arena of partisan political tussle’’.
 
The corporation added that the allegation was not only patently false but ran against the prevailing gale of transparency and accountability pervading the operations of NNPC since the advent of the current administration.

“With no regard for the cherished investigative reporting ethos of balance and confirmation of story, the allegation, without doubt, come across as a kindergarten  execution of an ill-thought political brinkmanship,’’ it said.

It called on all well-meaning members of the public and oil and gas industry stakeholders to disregard the report.

“The Management of the NNPC under Dr Baru is focused on delivering the aspiration of the president for the petroleum industry,’’ he added.

According to a PREMIUM TIMES report, the Nigerian Army said it has discovered a shallow grave where a missing major general, Muhammed Alkali, was buried after he was killed.
 
The army said the body was later exhumed and reburied somewhere else by the killers, according to the information provided to it by some of the arrested suspects.
 
According to the army, the shallow grave was confirmed by four independent sources in the community and also by sniffer dogs.
 
A PREMIUM TIMES reporter who visited the area of the shallow grave reports that there is a distance of one kilometre between the main road and the location of the grave.
 
Mr Alkali was the immediate past chief of administration of the Nigerian Army. He was declared missing on September 3 when he was traveling from Abuja to Bauchi State. He is believed to have been killed by his abductors.
 
The car of the missing general was found weeks ago in the community’s pond after it was drained.
 
A blood-stained T-shirt, a boxer short and a pair of shoes believed to belong to the general were found in the car.
 
Since the discovery of the car, there have been fears the military could attack the community in retaliation.
 
A day after the car was found, the army cordoned off the Dura Du community and arrested 30 suspects in connection with the suspected murder of the general


Apart from the discovery of the missing car, two other vehicles were also recovered from the pond.
 
Following the arrest of the 30 suspects, residents of the community fled for fear of military action but the army pledged to conduct the search with respect for human rights.
 
On Friday, a major general, B. A. Akinruluyo, the General Officer Commanding, 3 Division, Rukuba Barracks, narrated how the shallow grave was discovered.
 
“Please note that four different sources not known to each other at various times took us to the opened shallow grave where the senior officer was earlier buried but subsequently removed,” he said.

“Furthermore, sniffer dogs that have been cultured with the personal effects of the senior officer led us to the same open shallow grave. That was the only grave we were led to by different people and sniffer dogs. We did not go to any other grave as the operation was carried out based on credible intelligence.
 
“Like I always say, the cordon and search operation is intelligence driven and that is why the operation has been conducted in line with international best practices and respect for human rights. This further explains why the (army) division did not clamp down on the entire community. Only the perpetrators are being targeted.

“At this point, let me reiterate that all the actors involved in this dastardly act who are still at large are known to us. All efforts are being made to get them arrested and be brought to justice as their photographs and personal details are with the relevant security agencies.

“The cordon and search operation conducted by own troops has really exposed the heinous crimes being committed by the few but fully supported and concealed by the entire community. I want to commend members of the public for their cooperation and still solicit for anyone with credible information on where the senior officer was reburied. It is the civic responsibility of the Dura-Du community to produce the corpse of the deceased senior officer and those who were involved in the killing of the senior officer.

“Finally, the division also wishes to emphasise its adherence to the principles and respect of human rights in the discharge of its constitutional roles. It further calls on everyone within its area of responsibility to remain vigilant and report any suspected breach of the peace to security agencies,” the major general said.

What is your response to the Osun state governorship election that was declared inconclusive ? First of all, for me, I am very happy about the performance of the PDP, we have become a party to beat .This was clear in Osun state. The inconclusive decision of Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, was not fair but if the rules did say that the margin of majority which should have obviously made PDP be declared winner , for example in one local government PDP was denied one thousand votes if this had been added to the votes I am sure the PDP would have won completely. The important thing is that PDP has performed very well contrary to the expectations of many and it demonstrates what is ahead of us.


Again if the decision taken by INEC to suspend the election had not kept to the rule, then it is unfair. What is your reaction to the new trend of vote buying in our politics? This is unfortunate; vote buying has become a new aspect of rigging. The vote is a commodity; this is unfortunate, this is not what democracy is about. In the late 60s, the practice was to give food items to the women so they could queue behind some candidates. We are getting better, but there are those who would always want to truncate the system. What happened in Ondo, Ekiti and some in Edo State is most unfortunate. But it is an unfortunate phenomenon; it will gradually disappear. It is rigging the people, undermining the rights of the individual, exploiting the poverty of the people Vote buying is a very negative commentary on the Buhari administration as it tells the level of poverty in the land. Dangling five thousand naira, one thousand naira had become what people cherish to vote; it tells you what the administration has reduced Nigerians to. Do you have confidence in the Buhari administration giving Nigerians a credible General Election next year? I do not have confidence in Buhari. I say this not because he is President, grant me the privilege of saying I know him from his records. The Shagari election was overturned by Buhari. The coming on board of Buhari as Head state, the record of the government is in the public space it; is what any scholar can look at to speak authoritatively on Buhari. He is still very much a dictator. I had advised military rulers in the past. I was there with President Ibrahim Babangida, he (Buhari) has not got the profile of Babangida to listen to arguments. You can see his carriage, he enjoys not talking, but acting according to what he believes in whether it is within the democratic frame or not. He is a dictator. If Buhari has all the instruments to conduct elections alone, nobody will win elections other than those he wants. What is your opinion of the INEC ahead of the general polls? Let me not rule out INEC completely. INEC is composed at the highest level by highly respected gentlemen and ladies. The military, SSS, Police and some other ad-hoc staff are part of the election process, and I hope they will not be compromised. You know INEC does not have more than one-third of the staff that actually conduct elections, many are ad-hoc, they are motivated by all kinds of things, including poverty, opportunity to take advantage. So INEC is not in total control of those they have brought in for the election. This country has enough problems; for goodness sake, we should not have a President whose own profile adds to the problem we have . This is what Buhari is to the country; he is a problem; I say this with all due respect. When you add him to the problem, Nigeria already had you can see why the drifting in focus. Buhari is a problem because he does not have the capacity, he lacks the capacity to grasp. I have made reference to Babangida; I do not believe Buhari has that kind of time to listen over an issue. I saw this in Babangida when the country went through what I call a paradigm shift when the country moved from being driven by government. This was a time the private sector started driving the economy of the country. With all due respect, I do not see President Buhari being able to listen to advice; I might be wrong.



What would you say to the attempts by the National Chairman of the APC, Adams Oshiomhole to compel Senator Bukola Saraki to step down from the office of Senate President? The Senate President, Bukola Saraki has behaved very well in my view, not provoked even when agencies of the state pushed him to be angry. The action of the security agencies on the day they sealed up the assembly complex was very unfortunate. The head of the DSS then should certainly not have acted alone, but failure is an orphan. The role of the security agencies had been very unfortunate; they tried to embarrass the Senate President at his residence the other time. Well, I am not surprised. What do you expect from Somebody who goes outside his country to abuse his people? The media too has a role to play. There is this confusion between Parliamentary and Presidential system. The media should let the people know this. In a parliamentary system the party in majority produces the Prime Minister, produces leaders, but that is not presidential system. In 1976,77 leading to 79 when Nigerian completely moved from parliamentary to presidential system in the country, I was privileged as a lecturer at Amadu Bello university to be among those selected to go round the country to sensitize the people on the difference between the presidential and parliamentary system. The presidential system does not say that the party with the majority in the house should necessarily have the Senate President or Speaker, it does not say so. That is why in the United States you find a President elected by the people, but both arms of the Congress are in the hands of another party. Actually in a better society that brings out the best in the President. My good friend, His Excellency Adams Oshiomole just talks, you don’t say because we are in the majority, you must produce this or that. The issue of the presidency of the Senate is a business of the Senate so if they choose to pick somebody from another party so be it . But in a parliamentary system, it is expected that the party with majority produces the leaders. Again in a parliamentary system the Speaker is just a moderator, go and see the House of Commons. It is unfortunate that we seem to be operating a presidential system from the lens of the parliamentary system. How prepared is the PDP for next year’s General Election in Delta State? I have four units in my village, the task to all PDP leaders is hold your unit. Ensure that the election goes on smoothly, no manipulations. When an opposition party knows they can’t win in an area, they try to destroy the process but this we will not be allowed to happen. In terms of performance, the PDP is ready. There is nothing in the state that will suggest that the party will not win the election. PDP has consistently won election in the state. Former governor Emmanuel Uduaghan recently dumped your party for the APC, will it affect your party in any way ? He is a young man I respect. I felt bad he left, I kept saying it is unfortunate. He knows why he has left. But you are important because you can win elections. I know his local government, whether he will win his local government I don’t know, but he knows I can win mine. Here is a man who built his political profile within the PDP right from when he was Commissioner of Health. Before he joined the PDP, he was nobody in public space. Uduaghan had been in government for 16 years running. What is it that made him to leave? I don’t know. But if it is because he wanted to go to Senate “they did not give me the ticket, did he give anybody ticket, did he give Okokwa ticket himself, we all went through the primaries. The Kogi State government has made public its September allocation from the Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC).

The state government said in a statement yesterday that the action was in line with the transparency policy of the Governor Yahaya Bello administration.

The state commissioner of finance and economic development, Asiwaju Idris Asiru, told journalists shortly after the September allocation meeting held on October 26, 2018, that details of the allocations were open for public scrutiny.

Based on the information, the state’s gross allocation stood at N3,893,200,763.94 billion. N547,311,113.27 million was deducted from the gross receipt, leaving the state with a net SRA of N3,345,889,650.67.

A total of N808,623,556.85 million was received as income from the statutory Value Added Tax (VAT). Excess gain charges allocation amounted to N1,883,394.32, while

Bank charges were put at a total sum of N34,287,809.24 million only, resulting in a total of N4,190,684,411.08 billion.

All the local governments of the state received a revenue of N2,922,705,716.4 billion. Deductions came up to N89,972,595.51million, while the Net SRA scaled to N2,832,733,120.90 billion, with a VAT of 553,917,494.80.

Excess gain, according to the details provided by Asiru, amounted to N1,413,902.77 million, a total of bank charges of N25,740,562.11 million. The accumulated revenue was put at N3,413,805,080.58 billion.

The commissioner said the state government would continue to exhibit probity and transparency in handling the finances of the state, just as he assured civil servants and pensioners in the state that their salaries and pensions would be paid next week.

He thanked the civil servants and pensioners for their patience and understanding, saying the state government will also continue to fund projects that have direct bearing on the citizens of the state.

Ajimobi squares up with Akanbi, Folarin contends with Sunmonu in Oyo
Popular names appeared yesterday on the list of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in the race for the three Oyo State senatorial seats.

On the list for Oyo South Senatorial District were the incumbent, Senator Adesoji Akanbi, who is running on the platform of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and the incumbent governor, Senator Abiola Ajimobi, who is running on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Akanbi was elected on the APC platform in 2015. He defected to ADC in September when he discovered that Governor Ajimobi had obtained the form for his seat. While he hails from Ibadan North West Local Government Area, Ajimobi hails from Ibadan South West Local Government Area.

Also contending for the same seat from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is Mr Adebayo Lawal while Mr Fola Akinosun is angling for it on the platform of African Democratic Party (ADP).

In Oyo Central District, former Senate Leader Teslim Folarin of APC will slug it out with the incumbent, Senator Monsurat Sunmonu. The latter was also elected on the platform of the APC in 2015 but defected to ADC recently. Folarin picked the APC ticket this time. He defected from the PDP earlier in the year.

PDP fielded Mr Oyebisi Ilaka while ADP fielded the current member, House of Representatives for Lagelu/Akinyele Federal Constituency, Hon. Olatoye Temitope Subaru.

In Oyo North, the incumbent, Senator Fatai Buhari of APC will slug it out with PDP’s Hon. Mulikat Akande-Adeola, ADC’s Adeleke Lawal Adebayo and ADP’s Ahmed Salawudeen. Akande-Adeola is a former Majority Leader, House of Representatives.

With some of the political juggernauts racing for the same seat, the 2019 senatorial election in Oyo State promises to be very interesting.

The Petroleum Product Pricing Regulatory Agency [PPPRA] and the Department of Petroleum Resources [DPR] have been asked to enforce strict compliance with the new pricing regime as soon as it becomes effective.

Already the Federal Government claims to be paying subsidy for the landing cost of PMS.
The new measure is a reversal of government’s policy on the matter.

The Minister for Power, Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola, has said former President Goodluck Johnathan only conceded defeat after the 2015 elections because he knew the nation would witness economic recession soon.
Mr Jonathan, before the announcement of the final results, in a move that shocked many political pundits, conceded defeat to the current president, Muhamadu Buhari, after a keenly contested polls.
That was the first time an incumbent would be losing the top seat (and conceding victory) to an opposition party in Nigeria.
Mr Jonathan has been celebrated globally for his action, which many believe saved the country from political turmoil.
The economy plunged into recession shortly after in 2015. The recession raged in 2016 and through late 2017 when the nation then emerged from it.
However, Mr Fashola, a former governor of Lagos State, said on Thursday at a South-west town hall meeting that Mr Jonathan only relinquished power because he wanted to avoid being at the helm of affairs during the recession.
The meeting was organised by the Minister for Information, Lai Mohammed, and held at the Emeritus Professor Theophilus Ogunlesi Hall, opposite University College Hospital, Ibadan, Oyo State.
Mr Fashola at the meeting also said the Goodluck government not only plunged the nation into recession but pushed it into debts.
”What was left behind were massive debts owed to contractors who had not been paid for three to five years and who had laid off thousands of workers and shut down equipment and plants.
”That was one of the reasons why the economy first went into, and, I suspect, one of the reasons they (Goodluck administration) quickly conceded defeat,” Mr Fashola said.

The Yoruba Youth Council, YYC, has frowned at the statement by the Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola, that President Muhammadu Buhari will return power to the region if they reelect him for a second term in 2019.

Fashola had while speaking at a special Town Hall Meeting on infrastructure organised by the Ministry of Information and Culture and the National Orientation Agency held in Ibadan, Oyo State on Thursday called on the people of the South West to support Buhari’s second term bid in order to regain power in 2013.

The YYC which is the umbrella body of the Yoruba Youths, described the Minister’s call as absurd, adding that President Buhari has not done well to warrant another shot at the presidency.

This was contained in a statement signed by its National President, Eric Oluwole, and made available to newsmen on Friday.

The youths insisted that President Buhari had no solution to any of the problems confronting Nigeria as a nation.

The statement added, “Our attention has been drawn to a vague promise by a former Governor of Lagos State and current Minister of Works, Power and Housing, Mr Babatunde Raji Fashola during the special town hall meeting organised by the Ministry of Information and Culture and the National Orientation Agency recently, advising Yorubas especially the youths to vote for the incumbent president Mr Muhammad Buhari in the 2019 election so as to enable power shift to the south west in 2023.

“We observe with consternation that Mr Fashola, who is a beneficiary of the social economic crisis which the ruling elite has plunged the Nigerian youths could start serving as an adviser at this critical period if our nation’s existence.

A Nigerian fraudster identified as Otunba Cash has been arrested in Turkey, following a sting operation in connection with a $1.4m e-mail scam. 

The Nigerian fraudster who is also the CEO of Istanbul Entertainment was arrested after the Danish police sent a letter to Turkish Police Department on 9 May 2018, via Interpol, that an unauthorized access was made to one GM Plast company’s e-mail address.

It was gathered that the company paid money into some accounts in Turkey, and an investigation byTurkish Cybercrime Department led to the arrest of Turkish ED, ZI and N.M, whose companies were used as fonts.

The investigation further revealed that Nigerians are behind the scam and a simultaneous operations the police conducted in Istanbul on 18 October, led to the arrest of Emanuel Aneke at a luxury hotel he was staying with gang members O. Popoola, AA Oyemade, AT Fajolu and BO Balogun in Bağcılar.

Otunba Cash who hacked the emails of the big companies that made international trades, and then cloned payment advises, tricked the companies into making payments into their font companies.

Two new buildings allegedly owned by former Ekiti State Governor Ayo Fayose have been sealed by agents of the state government.

The state government through the Ministry of Housing, Urban and Physical Development, said the twin duplexes were sealed for lack of approved plan and permit.
The buildings, which are adjacent the official residence of the Deputy Governor, are located in the Government Reservation Area (GRA), Ado-Ekiti within the precincts of the Government House.

The contractor handling the project began work about four months ago after the buildings erected on the plot were pulled down to give way for the new edifices.
The official seal closing down the buildings was pasted on the gate.

The seal shutting down the buildings was signed by the Director of Urban and Regional Planning in the Ministry of Housing, Urban and Physical Development.
The document reads: “It was discovered during inspection by the Inspectorate staff of our Ministry that a residential building by you at GRA has no approved plan /permit for the site or bring same to our office to get certification for the erection.

“You are hereby ordered to suspend the use of the building premises until approved plan is submitted for clearance.”

“Fayose has said he was ready for probe and that he will appear in person before any panel set up by Fayemi. So, why the desperation?

“Our advice is that, Fayemi should place high premium on payment of the workers’ salary arrears since N30bn is already in his custody released by the Federal Government and not embarking on witch hunting or disparaging his predecessor. The money should not be used to fund the election petition filed against him.
“He should hurry up to do all he could for the benefit of common Ekiti people because time is not on his side.”

Heavily armed gunmen Friday morning raided some students of Benue State Polytechnic, Ugbokolo, carting away their valuables and food items.


Akelicious gathered that the robbers invaded Efoyo, a community dominated by students of the institution around 2 am, shooting sporadically into the air.

A student of the institution, who was attacked by the gunmen, said the invaders inflicted injuries on them after robbing them of their valuables.

“We could not sleep at all. They came into Efoyo around 2am. They were shooting sporadically and no security personnel challenged them. They came into our lodge, stole all our phones, our food items and a laptop I borrowed to do my project.

“In fact, they had to beat us when they could not get money from our lodge,” the student said.

A resident of Ideal Quarter, which was also attacked by the robbers said, “They nearly killed us because they could not get money. It was hell for us, because for close to three hours, these guys were operating and shooting sporadically same time. Sadly, there was no single security person in sight. We are sick and tired of all this.”


Another female resident of Otabo Lodge also said they could not sleep due to the sound of the gunshots.

She said some students teamed up with the vigilante group in the area, chased after the gunmen and arrested some of them.

“They were paraded this morning. The police came to rescue them because some students wanted to lynch them,” she said.

The attack came barely 24 hours after Mr. Andrew Ogbuja, a lecturer in the department of Hotel Management of the institution was remanded in the prison custody by a Makurdi court for alleged rape of a 13-year-old Ochanya Ogbaje.

Truck crushes 14 persons to death on Ilesa-Akure Expressway

No fewer than fourteen people lost their lives yesterday evening in a fatal accident that occurred at Erinmo-Ijesha, along Ilesha-Akure Expressway.

Akelicious reliably gathered that the break system of a truck heading towards Akure failed, causing it to ram several vehicles coming from the opposite direction, killing most of their occupants.

It was learnt that the vehicles the truck rammed into, which were heading towards Akure from Ilesha were stopped at a road-block mounted by the Police.

An eyewitness, Mr Saka Temilade, told our reporter that “Heavy traffic that was caused by the police on that check point responsible for the fatal accident.

“A truck heading towards Akure with failed break and ran over vehicles already stopped by the policemen.
“We could not even apprehend the driver of the truck, as he disappeared into thin air immediately the accident happened.”
Meanwhile, the Osun Sector Commander of Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, Mr. Peter Oke on Thursday evening confirmed the number of the victims of the accident, and said efforts had been put in place to clear the road for easy vehicular movement.

French Spiderman scales 46-storey London tower without ropes

A 56-year-old French Spiderman, Alain Robert took around an hour to scale a 46 storey building, a 230-metre high tower in London without ropes or safety equipment.

But he was arrested by police for creating a traffic snarl as bemused crowds packed the streets below the Heron Tower in the city’s financial district.

Police in the City of London, the capital’s square-mile financial centre, confirmed Robert was arrested “for causing a public nuisance” and remained in custody for much of Thursday.

“This is what I love to do,” Robert had told a handful of reporters at a nearby hotel shortly before beginning his ascent.
“I have pretty much dedicated my whole life to climb mountains, to climb cliffs, and now to climb buildings — but always ‘free soloing’, meaning I’m not using safety devices.”
The maverick climber has scaled more than 100 structures globally — including several in London previously — setting a record for “most buildings climbed unassisted,” according to Guinness World Records.
Earlier this year, he was forced to abandon climbing the world’s fifth-tallest tower in Seoul, South Korea, after the 123-storey building’s security confronted him halfway up.
Robert admitted Thursday he was “very nervous”, adding he always felt anxious ahead of an ascent.
“When I start climbing it’s OK, because I know I’m going to be completely focused,” he added.
“But at this point of time I’m a little bit shaky.”
The Frenchman, who climbed with a small camera on his forehead, soon attracted hordes of mobile phone-wielding onlookers after starting at lunchtime from busy Bishopsgate on the southwestern side of the building.
Police arrived within minutes and cordoned off nearby roads, quickly clogging traffic in the area.
“It’s weird — that’s my office,” said 36-year-old finance worker John Doherty, gazing up at Robert as he tackled the lower section of the mixed-use tower, home to offices, restaurants and a bar.
“I’ve just come back from lunch and it’s a surprise.”
Robert threw his arms in the air in apparent jubilation after reaching the top before disappearing out of sight.
Prior to the stunt, he said he “definitely expected” to be detained — as had occurred after his six other climbs in the British capital.
“They always arrest me,” he added. “(In) ’95 they were nice, and then after (it) started to get more complicated after 9/11 and everything.”
Several skyscrapers in London, including the tower at Canary Wharf, have taken out injunctions against Robert to prevent him climbing them again, according to his manager Bryan Yeubrey.
He said Thursday’s site was chosen from a shortlist of three, which also included the 224-metres-high Leadenhall Building — nicknamed “the cheesegrater” — and the 38-story “Walkie-Talkie” tower.
“He just wanted to climb in London again,” Yeubrey explained.
However, City of London Police criticised the stunt for causing “immense disruption to everyday business”.
“It also posed a significant level of risk to the safety of people in and around Heron Tower at the time,” said Commander Karen Baxter.

Bayelsa community accuses Shell of negligence over oil spill

A community in Bayelsa State, Agoro 1, has accused Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC) of neglecting them after an oil spillage.

Lead Consultant to the community, Furoebi Akene, said in a statement that Shell’s failure to proffer solution to the situation, constituted environmental and human rights abuses against them.He accused the firm of harassing and intimidating them to compel the people to sign a Joint Investigation Visit (JIV) report, which it surreptitiously prepared without considering the realities on ground.

According to the people, SPDC officials have failed to do the needful, since the spill occurred over five months ago, but have been using military personnel to intimidate the community.


They further accused the firm of ignoring the environmental standards put in place by regulating agencies as the Nigerian Oil Spill Detection and Response Agency (NOSDRA).

Akene disclosed that the spill occurred around Agoro section of the Trans Ramos pipeline in May 2018, while and the joint investigation visit took place from May 25 to 29, 2018.He explained that the JIV report showed that the incident was caused by instrument failure, which is the rupture of pipe as a result of corrosion.

He added that the crude oil spilled into Ramos River, creeks and swamps across a large expanse.Spokesman for SPDC, Bamidele Odugesan, who acknowledged the incident, said they had recovered over 95 percent of the spilled oil from the sections of the Trans Ramos Pipeline in Aghoro, as well as from Odimodi community in Delta State.

He said: “Over five months since the spill occurred, no cleanup and remediation measures had been taken till date. SPDC has frustrated efforts by NOSDRA for the parties involved to begin a joint post impact survey and assessment.”

The community also raised fears over the associated health concerns and environmental degradation.They urged the Managing Director and Country Chairman of SPDC in Nigeria, Mr. Osagie Okunbor, and the current SPDC Vice Chairman for Nigeria and Gabon Mr. Peter Costello, to call their workers to order.

Spokesman for SPDC, Bamidele Odugesan, who acknowledged the incident, said they had recovered over 95 percent of the spilled oil from the sections of the Trans Ramos Pipeline in Aghoro, as well as from Odimodi community in Delta State.While denying the allegation of using military to harass the people, he said the company would begin the remediation of the impacted areas, as soon as cleanup and site assessment are completed.

The 17-year marriage between a businesswoman and her husband is set to be dissolved by a Customary Court after the wife accused her husband of always stealing her money.

A Mapo Customary Court in Ibadan on Thursday dissolved 17-year marriage of a businesswoman who accused her husband of constantly stealing her money.
 
The president of the court, Ademola Odunade, held that the union of Mr. David Olarinde and Dupe Olarinde should be dissolved in the interest of peace.
 
He granted the custody of the first child of the union to David, and ordered Dupe to be in custody of the other two - a set of twins.
 
He ordered David to pay N8,000 monthly to Dupe for the twins’ upkeep, in addition to taking responsibility for their education and healthcare.
 
Dupe had sought divorce, saying that David was stealing her money regularly.
 
“My lord, before I got married to David, I had a big shop at Gate Market where I sold body creams, but he ruined my business. David kept stealing my money without returning it.

“When the business collapsed, I decided to work at a restaurant where I was able to save some money, but I discovered that my money was still missing.

“Besides, he is too far from home and does not cater for us,” she said.
 
Responding, David alleged that his wife was adulterous. “I would not have found myself in this kind of embarrassment if I had not rushed into marrying Dupe 17 years ago.

“My lord, I am a Lagos State-based commercial driver and I make it a duty to return to Ibadan every weekend to take care of Dupe and our three children.

“Dupe once told me she was going to hospital for medical check-up, but I traced her to a hotel. I saw her entering a hotel room with one of her boyfriends before I dragged her home from there.

“Many other men have been having sexual intercourse with her,” he claimed.

Hassan Mohammed Taiwo has been arrested and charged to court for being in the possession of contraband substance while traveling.

A 49-year-old man, Hassan Mohammed Taiwo, who allegedly hid 1.3 kilogrammes of cocaine inside a pair of sandals, during a trip to Saudi Arabia, was on Wednesday, arraigned before a Federal High Court, Lagos, by the men of National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).
 
The accused according to the NDLEA lawyer, Mr. J. I. Igunbor, was arrested on May 20, 2018, at about 10. 25 a.m., at the screening 11 wing ‘G’ of the Murtala International Airport, Lagos, during an outward clearance of passengers from Egypt Airways, via Cairo, Egypt.
Igumbor told the court that the operatives of NDLEA discovered the banned drugs in a pair of sandal wore by the accused screening of passengers outwardly.
 
He was charged before the court for unlawful possession of the hard drugs and attempted to export same with lawful authority.
 

 
The offences according to the prosecutor are contrary to and punishable under sections11(b) and 19 of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency Act Cap N30 Lagos of the Federation of Nigeria 2004.
 
The accused pleaded guilty to the charges.
 
Following his guilty plea, the prosecutor, Mr. Igumbor, asked the court for a date for review the fact of the matter and subsequence sentence of the accused.
 
Lawyer to the accused, Chief Lilian Omotunde, did not oppose the request of the prosecutor.
 
Upon the submissions of the parties, Justice (Professor) Chuka Obiozor, while adjourned the matter till November 22, for review of the facts of the case against the accused and possible judgment, ordered that he should be remanded in prison custody.
 
Count one of the charge reads: “that you, Hassan Mohammed Taiwo, Male, 49 years, on or about the 20th day of May, 2018 at about 10.25hours, during the outward clearance of passengers from Egypt Airways to Saudi Arabia; via Cairo, at the Screening 11 “G” Wing of Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos State, within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court, did export 1.300 kilogrammes of Cocaine, a narcotic drug, concealed Inside sandal slippers belonging to you, thereby committing an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 11(b) of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency Act Cap N30 Lagos of the Federation of Nigeria 2004.
 
And Count two reads: “That you, Hassan Mohammed Taiwo, Male, 49years, on or about the 20’” day of May, 2018 at about 1025hours, during the outward clearance of passengers from Egypt Airways to Saudi Arabia; via Cairo, at the Screening 11 ‘G’ Wing of MurtaIa Muhammed International Airport, Lagos State, within the jurisdiction 0! this Honourable Court, was found In possession of 1.300 kilogrammes of Cocaine, a narcotic drug, concealed Inside sandal slippers belonging to you, thereby committing an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 19 of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency Act Cap N30 Laws of the Federation of Nigeria 2004”.

Breaking: KDSG reinstates 24-hour curfew

The Kaduna State Government has reinstated a 24-hour curfew on Kaduna metropolis and environs, Kasuwan Magani, Kajuru, Kateri and Kachia. The curfew is effective from 11am today, Friday, 26th October 2018 and will remain in force until further notice

This is a necessary step to help maintain peace as we mourn the death of HRH Agom Adara, who we lost in the early hours of today to the criminals who abducted him last week.

The Kaduna State Government calls for calm in all our communities. The criminal elements who perpetrated this crime should not be allowed to divide us.

This is a struggle between good, decent, law-abiding people trying to uphold the peace and criminals who want to divide and destroy. It is not a struggle between religious or ethnic groups. Let no criminal find succour in faith or tribe.

The Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU), the research unit of The Economist Magazine, has predicted that the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, will defeat President Muhammadu Buhari of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2019 presidential election.

This prediction is coming as the Governor of Kogi State, Mr. Yahaya Bello, on Wednesday night in Abuja, told President Buhari and the APC that the PDP “will not be a push over” in the general elections.

The Economist’s forecast came less than two months after it had earlier predicted that Buhari would lose the election.

The EIU made the latest prediction in its country report on Nigeria, dated October 17, which was obtained yesterday.

The London based magazine said, “The Economist Intelligence Unit expects that the President, Muhammadu Buhari, will lose power at the February 2019 elections and that the next government will be led by Atiku Abubakar of the PDP, although his administration will be fragile.

“Mr. Buhari is the APC’s presidential candidate and his main challenger is Mr. Abubakar, who was recently nominated PDP’s candidate with overwhelming backing from the party.

“Abubakar’s pledge is to reinvigorate the economy with pro-market reforms. Both candidates are from the northern Nigeria, where Buhari’s support base lies, presaging a fierce contest there.

“With the vote likely to be split in the North, Abubakar will find it easier to garner support from the country’s south, which has traditionally been a safe haven for the PDP.

“This gives Abubakar an edge, as does popular frustration over the rise in joblessness and poverty (two of the biggest voter concerns) on Mr. Buhari’s watch, as well as growing insecurity in central Nigeria.

“Nonetheless, strong incumbency advantages in Nigeria imply that it will be a tight race.

“If Abubakar loses – a distinct downside risk to our forecast – there may be a rejection of the result by the PDP, which is convinced that election will be rigged.

The EIU, which gave an array of reasons for its prediction, also noted that without a party system based on shared principles, it would be difficult to overcome Nigeria’s multi-layered security threats.

It added that instability and legislative paralysis would affect many aspects of the economic forecast.

EIU anticipated that the policy reform of the predicted winner would be based on pro-market measures and diversification of the economy away from oil.

However, it stressed that progress in this area would be hampered by vested interests, ideological opposition and bureaucratic inefficiency.

In its five-year outlook on Nigeria, the EIU projected that Nigeria’s growth rate would average 2.7 per cent per annum between 2019 and 2023.

“We forecast that currency depreciation will keep annual inflation elevated at an average rate of 13.9 per cent in 2019 -2020.

“Following this will be a period of disinflation in 2021- 2023 as the naira stabilises. Export growth will be slower in 2019-2020, as oil prices dip in these years, than in 2021-2023, when world crude prices are expected to rise. Import demand will also be held back in 2019-2020, as the naira depreciates before picking up in 2021-2023 as the currency stabilises,” it added.

Furthermore, the EIU predicted “ongoing severe outbreaks of instability, given slow progress on tracking numerous security and societal challenges at a time of economic difficulty.”

According to the report, with tight national elections expected in 2019, the ruling APC would be focused on intra-party politics and security concerns would be sidelines.
“The election period itself will be a time of high risk; as a recent election in Osun demonstrated, small scale violence at the polls is highly likely, as is disputation of the results.

“Parliamentary rift will remain the main problem and this applies no matter who is in charge, given competing priorities between representatives from different regions and the absence of common ideology within parties.

“Without a collective resolve, it would prove impossible to bring permanent peace to the large parts of Nigeria hit variously by an insurgency in the north, ethno-nationalism tensions and disputes over land access across the centre of the country.

“It will prove to be hard to build a more effective security apparatus while also creating economic opportunities for local population; poverty lies at the root of much of the instability.

“Our central forecast is, however, that the 2019 elections will be completed without a widespread breakdown of stability – with Nigeria’s democracy proving once again to be robust enough to endure.

“Given the severe risks to stability, speculation over the threat of a military coup or a civil war is likely to surface periodically.”

Continuing, the EIU stated: “Nevertheless, as the country’s leadership struggles to shift Nigeria into a more sustainable path to economic development, the risks to stability will intensify as more Nigerians question what they have to lose from pushing for violent change.”

In terms of its medium term outlook for Nigeria’s fiscal policy, it projected that it would centre on attempt to diversify the country’s sources of revenue away from oil while directing more expenditure to pro-poor activities and infrastructure investments. Non-oil revenue will rise because of efforts to widen tax coverage and collect overdue taxes, but from a low base and over a longer time period than projected by the government, it added.

“Although higher oil prices will give some reprieve, longer-term public sustainability will remain in doubt. Monetary policy will also concentrate on bolstering economic recovery while limiting inflation and maintaining currency stability.

“However, this will generate contradictory pressure in the early part of the forecast period. The private sector is desperate for cheaper credit to spur growth, but inflation will be running higher than the targeted upper limit of nine per set by the Central Bank of Nigeria and monetary tightening in the US will threaten to put pressure on the naira if a looser stance is adopted.

“On balance, interest rates will not move much in 2019, but they will dip in 2020 as the wider global economy slows and monetary authorities attempt to stimulate, with Nigeria following suit.

“The economy will for the most part be mired in a low-growth cycle, although there will be improvements over time.

In 2019, what are expected to be fiercely contested elections in February will hold back business and consumer confidence that year, and although markets are likely to approve of Mr. Abubakar’s economic reform agenda – meaning the disruption is likely to be short-lived- we forecast a growth rate of 1.9 per cent – the lowest rate of growth in our five-year outlook period,” it added.

In a related development, the Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, has told President Buhari and the ruling APC that the opposition PDP “will not be a push over” in the forthcoming 2019 general election.

Bello, who gave this warning on Wednesday night when the president hosted his young political appointees to dinner in the Presidential Villa, added that only aggressive marketing could give the APC an edge over the opposition PDP.

Bello, who said even though the president remained the best choice for the country till 2023, added that the issue of perception must not be overlooked.

The governor, however, insisted that PDP would not be a walk-over for APC in 2019 and listed security crises as some of the challenges that may be good instruments in the hands of the opposition to fight the party.

According to him, the APC has a lot to do to convince the masses about what the president had done for Nigerians and win their votes.

He said, “A good product sells itself and Mr. President is a very good product. And his competence is definitely needed for the progress of this nation. But we need to go out there and sell him to the people.

“Public relations practitioners will tell you that at some point, having a good product without excellent advertising is a winking in the dark. You know what you are doing but no one else does.

Perception is reality but when it comes to politics and campaigning, perception management is therefore critical in a time like this. “We must market the incredible accomplishment of Mr. President and of his administration to every voter and in a language he or she understands.

But Secretary to the Government of the Federation, (SGF), Mr. Boss Mustapha, argued that PDP didn’t deserve to return to power because it didn’t achieve one-tenth of what APC has done in its 16 years in power. He said, “As a government arm, we have achieved so much and I am going to make available to you a document that we have put together, which captures what the government has been able to achieve in just about two and half years, what I called a midterm report.

“If we have to make a comparison of what has been achieved in the last couple of years, the 16 years of PDP administration will not constitute one-tenth of what we have been able to achieve in the last three and half years.

“We went to the 2015 elections with promises, but we will go to the 2019 elections with our scorecard.” In his submission, the president assured the youths that Nigeria had all they needed to live good life.

He criticised the illegal migration of many Nigerian youths out of the country, saying his administration would make the country a better place.

He said, “If people don’t feel good about this country, let them go and find out what is happening elsewhere but we are going to stay here and we are going to salvage this country together. “I have gone through a lot, I have been Governor, I was in charge of our petroleum sector for over three years, I was Head of State and now I have come without the uniform and have visited each of the 774 local government areas in this country. “The intention of this administration is to do the infrastructure and give education and healthcare to our people especially the poor.’’

He berated the PDP for not keeping to its promise to the people.

“The importance of democracy is to see whether what you have chosen has worked for you. We have kept our promise and are not changing in the middle. “You must choose between the one that has been there for 16 years and the other one that has been there for only three and a half- years,” Fashola said.

The minister disclosed that when PDP was elected in 2015, the budget for the Ministry of Power, Works Housing and was N25.6 billion while the entire budget of Lagos State then was N70 billion.

He stressed that under the current dispensation, more funding had been budgeted for the three ministries with Works receiving N394 billion; Power, N69 billion and Housing, which used to receive a meagre N1. 2 billion, getting an allocation of N64.1 billion.

“All the problems of the country—grand corruption, kidnapping, suicide bombing, pipeline vandalism- started when Jonathan was in power,” Fashola alleged. According to him, after the construction of the transit park, an enabling law will be promulgated, to make it mandatory for long haul drivers to stop and rest before traversing the northern part of the country.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) had arraigned Fayose before the court alongside his company, Spotless Limited and one Abiodun Agbele for money laundering and fraud.

The commission accused the former governor of taking possession of the sum of N1.2 billion on June 17, 2014 for purposes of funding his gubernatorial election campaign in Ekiti State, which sum they reasonably ought to have known formed part of crime proceeds.

The EFCC also alleged that Fayose received a cash payment of the sum of five million dollars, (about N1.8 billion) from the then Minister of State for Defence, Senator Musiliu Obanikoro, without going through any financial institution and which sum exceeded the amount allowed by law.

Nigerian gay rights activist, Bisi Alimi has called out GTBank for inviting Jay Manuel to its fashion week masterclass. In an Instagram post, Bisi Alimi slammed the bank for its hypocrisy.

According to him, they will never invite well known Nigerian gays for such events but won’t mind spending huge money on bringing foreign gays like Jay Manuel.

He also wondered why GTBank, which is in a country with strict laws against LGBT, cannot speak against such laws but don’t mind working with foreign gays.

Speaking on Wednesday at the Strategic Dialogue on the Morocco-Nigeria Relations in Abuja, the DG said Nigeria would have been celebrating high oil prices but it isn’t.
At the Department of Petroleum Resources’ estimates that 45 million litres of petrol are consumed daily, this means that the NNPC records N2.38 billion as under-recovery daily.

“On oil price, for us, it is a double-edged sword, unfortunately. This ought to be a season where we should be clicking glasses with regards to the oil price. But right now, practically every drop of refined petroleum product that we consume in the country is imported,” PUNCH quoted him to have said.

“And the one single factor that determines the price of refined product is the price of crude. In essence, while we export the crude at about $80 (per barrel), we effectively import back the same crude at about $100 importation price for refined products. And that explains why despite the strong oil prices, we are not seeing a corresponding growth in government revenue.

“Also at the moment, in terms of pricing of petroleum products, for every litre of petrol, there is an N53 under-recovery. Well, that is the term that the NNPC, which has this responsibility, calls it and so who am I? This represents a significant value for us. Hence, the need to diversify the economy remains urgent.”

A man shocked people both online and offline with his infamous technique after he was busted for stealing a live chicken.

The man who was apprehended by some villagers after stealing the chicken was forced to bring it out after neatly concealing it in his trouser to beat detection. 

In a video currently making the rounds on social media, the man can be heard being told to bring out the chicken which he surprisingly produced after unzipping his trouser. 

The man brought out the poultry animal to the shock of those around who wondered how he hid it.

The video has gone viral since it was posted online.

A tricycle rider, this morning, stripped Unclad to stand against oppression after a policeman ordered the vandalisation of his automobile.

The man was said to have been driving along Adesuwa road, Benin, Edo State, when he slightly bashed a policeman’s car, after which the officer ordered his tricycle to be damaged.

The man however, stood his ground. At a point, he had to go Unclad to register his resolve to protect his tricycle. Another police later stepped in to settle the issue.

GandujeGate: Kano mobilises 3,000 thugs to scuttle DAILY NIGERIAN publisher’s appearance before investigative panel

The Kano State government has mobilized over 3,000 thugs from 44 local government areas of the state to create chaos and scuttle the scheduled appearance before Kano State House of Assembly.

DAILY NIGERIAN had published verified videos clips showing the governor of Kano State, Abdullahi Ganduje, receiving bribe from a contractor.

Although the state government had described the footages as “cloned” and threatened legal action against the publisher and the medium.

On October 18, the assembly invited DAILY NIGERIAN and its publisher, Jaafar Jaafar, to appear before its seven-man investigative panel to answer questions regarding the authenticity of the video clips published by the newspaper.

DAILY NIGERIAN lawyers had already written to the police, State Security Service, SSS, seeking adequate security “before, during and after” the investigative hearing on Thursday.

Amnesty International had also written to the Inspector-General of Police, Rabiu Yusuf, requesting security cover for the publisher before, during and after the event, but the agency is yet to receive the IGP’s reply.

But credible security sources said the Kano State Commissioner of Police, Rabiu Yusuf, who is doing the governor’s bidding, had given nod for the state government to mobilise thugs to create chaos.

“Thugs have already been mobilised to attack you or scuttle the hearing. On normal circumstance, the CP should not have allowed them to.

“The CP is complicit. That is just the truth of the matter,” a security source told Mr Jaafar on Wednesday.

Top government officials who had also pleaded with DAILY NIGERIAN publisher not to appear before the panel “in order to put the matter to rest”.

“If we allow you to appear before the panel, we know you will convince everybody that the clips are original.

“We are managing the situation now, but your testimony will deteriorate the situation.

“I am telling you in confidence that government will not allow you to come.

“All of us here in government, even members of the House of Assembly, know that the video clips genuine, but we have to defend the government,” said a top government official who spoke in confidence with DAILY NIGERIAN publisher.

Spokesman for Kano Police Command, Magaji Majia, however said “adequate security arrangement” would be made, saying he was not aware of the government’s plan to mobilise the thugs.

Director-General, Media Affairs to the governor, Aminu Yassar, denied the alleged plan to mobilise the thugs, saying the government respects the independence of the Legislature and would not scuttle democratic process.


The saga


Recall that on Monday, October 15, the Kano House of Assembly opened probe on the bribe-taking videos of the state governor, Abdullahi Ganduje, published by DAILY NIGERIAN.

Raising a matter of urgent public importance on Monday, a member representing Warawa Constituency, Labaran Madari, said the assembly should investigate the authenticity of the video and take measures.

Mr Madari said the videos had brought the institution of governance in the state to disrepute, and therefore the need for the legislators to take urgent action.

The matter was seconded by Rabiu Panisau, a member representing Kumbotso constituency.

Responding, the speaker, Alhassan Rurum, constituted a seven-man committee to investigate the matter and report back to the assembly.

Members of the committee include Baffa Dan’Agundi (Kano Municipal) as chairman; Labaran Madari (Warawa) member; Garba Gafasa (Ajingi), member; and Zubairu Masu, (Sumaila) member.

Others are Ayuba Labaran (Kabo) member; Abubakar Galadima (Bebeji), member; Garba Yau Gwarmai (Kunchi/Tsanyawa), member and; Mujtafa Amin, secretary.

Inside sources told DAILY NIGERIAN that the assembly is planning to serve the governor impeachment notice as soon as the committee submits its report.

“This is a serious matter that should not be swept under the carpet. We did preliminary investigation and found out the videos are genuine. The committee is just mere formality,” said a member who preferred anonymity.

“The governor confessed to some of us that it was real but he is now trying to stop us from exercising our constitutional duty.”

Mr Ganduje has appeared in a trove of video clips receiving bribe, amounting to about $5million from contractors in the state.

Multiple contractors who spoke with DAILY NIGERIAN on the condition of anonymity said the governor personally receives from 15 to 25 percent kickbacks for every project executed in the state.

The sting operation to capture the governor on camera began two years ago when one of the contractors agreed with DAILY NIGERIAN request to plant spy camera on his kaftan lapel while offering the bribe.

During about 10 months efforts to capture the bribe giving/taking scenes, the governor’s face and body were clearly captured in nine clips, while six others did not clearly reveal the governor’s face.

About $5m dollars were delivered to the governor during the sting operation.

One of the contractors who preferred not to be named said the reason he collaborated with DAILY NIGERIAN was to expose corruption and bring sanity to the country.

The General Overseer of the Mountain of Fire & Miracles Ministries (MFM), Dr. D.K. Olukoya , has filed a N2 billion suit against Sahara Reporters Publisher Mr. Omoyele Sowore for defamation of character. In the suit filed before the High Court of Akwa Ibom State , Uyo, Sahara Reporters Incorporation and Objective Media Group Limited were listed as the 2nd and 3rd defendants.

The clergyman in the court papers, accused Sowore of consistently churning out publications that are defamatory to his person. Olukoya and his church are claiming N2 billion against the defendants for alleged aggravated libel and have asked the courty for order compelling Sowore and his media platforms to pull down and erase each of the offending posts from the internet forthwith.

They are also praying for an order directing the defendants to tender written apology and retraction in form and content acceptable to the claimants and published prominently in Sahara Reporters online news media, on Facebook and in at least three nationally circulating newspapers and two international magazines, including TIME International.

In addition, the clergyman is asking the court to issiue an order of perpetual injunction restraining the defendants by themselves, his agents, servants, privies or other persons howsoever called or described, from further making, publishing and/or disseminating libellous stories and statements against the claimants or any one of them.

In the court papers, the clergyman alleged that Sowore and Sahara Reporters on September 4th, 2018, made and posted a video recording of Sowore addressing a crowd of his purported political supporters on their respective Facebook pages under the heading “Breaking! Sowore Reveals Why MFM General Overseer Daniel Olukoya Is After Him, as He Arrives Lagos”. The video was published after the clergyman had filed a seperate suit against Sowore and Sahara reporters.

In the said video, Sowore was alleged to have falsely and maliciously said to have spoken and published against the the clergyman and his church the following words inter alia namely:

“On Olukoya, very important because this is the latest that happened. I have done reporting on many cabals and you know in this country there are religious cabals, political cabals, traditional cabals and family cabals so I touched all of them not only Olukoya. Remember the one that was sleeping with a prostitute in Canada… It was then that he then went and looked for a Judge in Uyo. Imagine a man of God that is on Lagos – Ibadan Expressway now going to look for a judge in a case that doesn’t even involve them. My suspicion is that they found a judge who is probably a member of their Church who said that he will teach Sowore a lesson. That is not going to happen…”
