Bomb blast kills seven people and injures 20 others at a Shi’ite Muslim mosque

A bomb blast killed seven people at a Shi’ite Muslim mosque in eastern Baghdad on Friday and wounded more than 20 others.

A senior police source said the explosion took place in the Baladiyat neighborhood and that either a suicide belt or improvised explosive device had been used in the attack, for which there was no immediate claim of responsibility.

The source said the death toll was expected to rise with many of those wounded in serious condition. It was a rare attack on a Shi’ite place of worship in the Iraqi capital. Sunni extremists carried out high-profile bombings of Iraqi Shi’ite sites during the worst of the country’s sectarian violence after the U.S. invasion that toppled dictator Saddam Hussein in 2003.

Baghdad’s security improved significantly with the defeat of Islamic State in 2017 and bomb attacks of any kind in the city have been rare since then.

University of Lagos

A massive fire has erupted in Unilag close to the popular senate building.

A car caught fire and a tyre exploded. The fire figthers also didn’t have top notch equipments as they could be seen quenching the fire via buckets rather than a high pressure hose.

I’m Very Fearful, Unhappy About Insecurity In Nigeria –Chief Odigie-Oyegun
User Avatar Forum: General Discussion
Posted by: Edoman - 06-22-2019, 05:26 PM - No Replies

Former National Chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, in this interview with ADEKUNLE PETER, talks about insecurity, the 2019 general elections and the crisis in the party’s chapter in Edo State

How would you describe the last general elections?

I’m glad because the All Progressives Congress came out victorious all through. We have been badly bruised, no question about that, but we came out fine.

To what would you ascribe the success of your party in the presidential and the National Assembly elections?

If I had to ascribe it to any one major factor, I would say it is the following that the President (Muhammadu Buhari) enjoys that took us across the finishing line. Unfortunately, there was so much dissension in the party, arising from primaries and the rest of it. The intense dissension made it difficult. As a result, we lost a lot of states (to opposition parties) in the process, which is unfortunate. The most unfortunate cases happened in states where we couldn’t even, by the definition of the Independent National Electoral Commission, field candidates; the definition that the Supreme Court has agreed with. It was really sad.

But the European Union Election Observer Mission recently described the elections as not fair. What would you say to that?

All I can say is this; in terms of electioneering, the process and the rest of them, we have taken a step backward. When you consider the degree of violence; I’m not talking about the EU report now, because I’ve not read them. I only read what the papers reported. I will love to see the report myself. But, there’s no question about the observation; when you start losing 200 lives in the process of an election, then something is terribly wrong. It is not worth the sacrifice of 200 lives.

So, to that extent, we have taken a backward step, and it is my hope that whatever is in this report will help us streamline processes for the future. My party condemned it outright. Every report like that has lessons for you. But, I haven’t read it, so, I don’t know how strong they are in their condemnation. But, any criticism, however much you disagree with it, may have lessons for you, lessons you can glean from, lessons you can learn from. That’s the way I look at it. It will help to improve the processes in future elections. We must, as a party and as a nation, aim for truly clean elections that do not involve the kind of violence that we had.

Although President Buhari was declared winner of the last presidential election, many people believe he wouldn’t have won if the election was not rigged, considering his unpopularity. How do you respond to that?

There is nothing much really to say about that. People must learn to accept results of elections. We have a penchant for not accepting results of elections. But there are cases where there are clear injustices, particularly in the selection process.

But in the case of the presidential election, to my mind, there was no such thing. Whether we like it or not, President Buhari has a cult following in a large section of the nation and that has seen him through all the time. You can look at when he was not even the President, he had 12 million votes challenging a government that was determined that he should lose at all cost. His case is so clear that it doesn’t need any argument.

Your party was able to successfully have its wishes in the National Assembly unlike what happened in 2015 while you were the party chairman. What do you think changed this time?

That was fantastic; what happened this time was absolutely fantastic. I think in 2015, apart from the fact that there were a lot of interference and we were going through a learning process, there is no question at all that mistakes were made by a lot of individuals and the party.

I’m glad that they have learnt from it and they have seen that imposition does not work; it has never worked. ‘Godfatherism’ works for a while, but from my experience from all over the place now, it is never a permanent process. Eventually, it will collapse.

This time, I think after the initial pronouncement, the members were allowed to do their own will and dealing, and in the process, they provided a leadership that the party is happy about, and that I am happy about.

Like some of your party members have alleged, do you think they are right that you condoned indiscipline and impunity while you were there as chairman?

You know, in politics, people just take a swipe at people: “Ooh, he’s been bribed, he got N300m. Ooh, he condoned indiscipline.” I think from anybody accusing me (of condoning those things), I will want to know the specifics (of what they are talking about).

For me, the only difference is that I did not carry a sledgehammer; I don’t believe in a sledgehammer. I was properly brought up, I went to school, and so, I believe in my ability to persuade, to get people around to do what requires to be done. Of course, that is very much less dramatic. What is important is, do you get results?

I was challenged; they said I was weak, and all that. But, look at the primaries I oversaw and the opposition I faced. Did I cave in? Of course I did not. So, really, what is weakness? Does strength consist of how much power you have and how you can break heads? No, it doesn’t. For me, that is not my interpretation of power. My interpretation of a strong man is a man who sticks to principles and can only be swayed by superior arguments, not interests, not personal interest, not any other person’s interest. Somebody who has principles, applies the principles without discrimination and is firm in upholding the results from those applications, full stop. Those are two different types of politics.
It is for people to decide which direction they want to go. Do you want a situation of relative disorder, just so you can have your way, or, do you want people to trust you, believe in you and follow you because they trust you, not because you can smash their heads or deprive them of whatever rights belong to them?

So, these are two types of politics; one leads to violence, and the other leads to a deepening and maturing of politics, such that Nigerians can be better for it.

Look at India; look at the elections they had, which went on for six weeks. At the end of the elections, not a whimper of complaint was heard. Why can’t we aim for such civilised politics? Why must it be an ‘Ajasco’ type of politics? Why must we be killing people because of politics? Instead of dealing with programmes and the kind of country we foresee, paint the picture of the people to see, we believe in, why must it be, oh, this man stole this, this man stole that, that man doesn’t have a certificate, the other one doesn’t have that?

To me, that is a very crude form of politics and I think we are beyond it; we are a potentially great nation. But we are just putting ourselves into the bottom of the pit permanently. We should aspire; we should move forward, we should try to make politics lovely and decent.

You attacked the APC National Chairman, Adams Oshiomhole, saying he lacked the temperament to run a party. The party in turn came out to attack you; do you still stand by all you said?

I have said all I need to say on that subject. For me, it is closed, unless something dramatic happens. For me, that was an unusual position to take. Sometimes, you need to make the point in as harsh form as possible, so that even if the people are deaf and dumb, they will finally get the message.

You also asked the party to get rid of godfathers, what would you consider as the implications of having godfathers in politics?

Let me once again try to make it distinct: those who enthrone themselves, somebody called it ‘mentoring.’ Mentoring is very good, mentoring is very positive, mentoring does not imply that after you have helped somebody and the person learns the ropes, it does not mean that you have a permanent rope tied around his waist. You let him be, let him come for advice. If he doesn’t come for advice, fine. Let him make his mistakes and learn from them.

But, ‘godfatherism’, the unfortunate bane of our politics, is the one that seeks to govern from the outside. Before decisions are made, you must be consulted. Before appointments are made, you must be asked for your list. Before the person you have ‘god-fathered’ turns right or left, he must ask you which the correct road to take is; otherwise, there are consequences. My state today, is a good example. Look at the kind of situation it is creating. That is ‘godfatherism’ and it’s very different from mentoring, which is absolutely beautiful. It is not the same thing as ‘godfatherism’.

In your own opinion, what can we do to get rid of ‘godfatherism’ in Nigerian politics?

Well, I think the only thing is that, everybody believes he is a champion, until it is proven that they are not that much. It is inevitability. It has proven itself repeatedly. You can count everywhere where this (godfatherism) has happened. There has never been one; I can’t think of a state where it has gone very, very well.

So, maybe experience will be the only teacher that they need so they will understand that being accepted because of being respected is much more enduring than being accepted out of fear.

Although you are a former chairman of the APC, you are first of all a Nigerian, are you concerned about the state of insecurity in the country?

Of course I am! Every Nigerian should be concerned. As a matter of fact, I’m very, very fearful of the real intention of what is going on. Is there a very deep-seated motivation by people outside this country who do not wish us well, because, there is no doubt at all that a lot of these people come from across our borders. They have infected our own normal people, no question about that. They have managed to infect them, using religion and all that. But the fact is that this thing is happening virtually in every community.

For me, the question is; could there be a sinister motive by people who do not wish this nation well? I can’t answer that question, only the security agencies can. And even if they know, they may not tell us, unless they have dealt with the situation. But, I’m very, very unhappy about it. I’ve no doubt in my mind that it has to be the number one priority of the second term (of the APC-led government) and I have no doubt that the President will give it the degree of priority it deserves.

Do you agree that your party has failed in its campaign promise to rid the nation of insecurity?

No, the party did not, the administration did not. What we promised on Boko Haram, we delivered.

But they are still attacking and killing…

No, no, no. America is the greatest nation on earth today, but it still has its own security challenges. Look at the number of violence in their schools and everywhere. That is the greatest nation with second to none security operatives all over the place, and it still happens.

But in America, nobody will come and say he controls part of California. That is what the President promised and he delivered.

You cannot stop a suicide bomber. Somebody is determined to kill himself and take others along with him, tell me, how do we stop him? The war at that level is still on, but we pray that deep involvement by the people themselves and their willingness to report suspicious movement will help the security agencies. But to expect that the act of violence will stop worldwide is impossible; it’s a terrible period in the entire universe. We are not exempted from it, and what it means is that a different type of insecurity manifests itself in the process. If we solve one problem, another one is coming up on us. That is the one I’m saying is very, very worrisome and I have no doubt that the President will give it the priority it deserves because it is worrisome. Anybody who is saying it is not (happening) or trying to wish it away is not living in the real world as it exists. It is very worrisome.

Your party also promised to improve the economy, but since it came to power, Nigerians have become poorer and the country is now the poverty capital of the world. Don’t you consider that as failure?

Well, let me put it this way; the problem has not been solved. Of course, there is real anguish in the land, there is real pain in the land and it is very unfortunate. It will sound heartless to say it is not so. This is a very unfortunate period that we are passing through. Unfortunately, development is a long process, a tedious process.

As I said in one of my interviews, in 1963, when, as young, passionate officers, we joined the civil service, when development plan which we were a part of, was the in-thing, in many countries of the world, people were actually dying of hunger in the streets. They had trucks plying the streets picking up people who had died of hunger. May God never, never let the situation be as bad as that for us! It’s a very, very unfortunate thing, and if we don’t accept that it exists, emphasise and work to correct the situation, then we are not being true to the Nigerian people.

It is a situation we inherited and it was inevitable. We don’t want to go into the history of it; we are supposed to solve the problem. That is why the people entrusted power to us. All I can say is that, the collapse of the Nigerian economy has been reversed, the economic base has been rebuilt during the first term (of President Buhari in office) and it is my prayer that with the nature of the government we are going to have now, we would be able to bring to bear, the innovative policies, effective policies that will address the economic situation and bring growth.

Right now, we are talking about two per cent of economic growth but the population is growing at well over three per cent, in which case, we are not growing. And if we are not growing, we cannot address a lot of these issues. So, when constituted, the government must aim at a rate of growth that is well in excess of three per cent. Whatever needs to be done has to be done.

Painful decisions may have to be taken, as far as the economy is concerned, which, of course, as usual, will lead to hue and cry in the system. But, there is no way we can make the level of progress we need to make if we do not think and work out of the box. Think out of the box, do something new, be creative and result-oriented.

What calibre of people do you expect the President to nominate for ministerial appointments for his second term in office?

I don’t know about that; I’m not close to the process, but the President said something in the speech he made on Democracy Day. I was struck by the admittance that political will, which means taking tough decisions and sticking by them to make them produce the necessary result, is something that will be a feature in the second term. I have no doubt at all that when he takes up the plough, we will see it.

As a former governor of Edo State, you understand the politics of the state. How would you describe the present political impasse in the party?

Well, I don’t know the details yet, but from what I know, it is a very, very unfortunate situation and it only originates from the breakdown of ‘godfatherism’. Edo State is a typical example of that. The only thing I want to say at this stage is that both sides should know that at all times, even from the time of the Action Group, Edo State, then Mid-Western Region, has always been a marginal state, meaning that there is no real landslide in Edo State. Edo State people have shown that they can vote in a discriminative manner. So, just to remind the combined combatants that if they continue on the path they are taking, there is the danger of making the APC the opposition party in the state, because the division in the party is very deep. And if they don’t reconcile quickly, then I can bet now that they will lose the state. That’s my only message to them.

What advice would you give to those involved in the internal wrangling?

Isn’t it difficult for somebody in my position to advise them?

But, you’re a major stakeholder in the party and in the state…

You know what happened when the plan was on to remove me as the national chairman of the APC. It makes me want to take a very deep look at things. We all saw this happening, we knew it could happen, but I’m surprised it could happen with this degree of intensity. But, like I told you much earlier, ‘godfatherism’ does not work with a thinking people who are so diverse. People talk about Lagos, but Edo State is not Lagos.

Our senatorial districts are boundaries of relatively distinct people. What you can do in Lagos, you cannot do here. Basically, Lagos has only two ethnic groups, the Yoruba and the others. Here, it is not quite the same, so let them not destroy the party and the state because nobody will benefit from it if that happens, everybody will lose.

2019 Election Server: INEC Denies Resignation Of ICT Director

Quote:This refutation may not be unconnected with the contention regarding whether INEC used a server in transmitting 2019 presidential election results or not.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) says reports that its Director of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Mr. Chidi Nwafor, has resigned is fake news.

The commission, on Saturday, made this known on its official Twitter handle, @inecnigeria. This refutation may not be unconnected with the contention regarding whether INEC used a server in transmitting 2019 presidential election results or not.

The Peoples Democratic Party and its presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, are claiming INEC transferred the election results using a server.

It described the report as false, urging members of the public to disregard it.“The rumour circulating that our Director ICT, Engr. Chidi Nwafor has resigned is totally false and should be disregarded.

“The Director and another staff have just returned from South Africa where they represented INEC at the high-level 5th Annual Meeting of ID4Africa Movement in Johannesburg (from June 18 to June 20).

“Neither he nor any senior staff has resigned his appointment or indicated such intention, since the elections,” INEC tweeted.

The rumour circulating that our Director ICT, Engr. Chidi Nwafor has resigned is totally false and should be disregarded. The Director and another staff have just returned from South Africa where they represented INEC

Recently, SaharaReporters reported that a joint committee of information technology and legal experts has claimed to have incontrovertible evidence about Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) servers, installed in 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.

The groups, Deservation, and Pukka Initiative, made the revelation in Yola, Thursday night, showing a document, that detailed how and when INEC server was allegedly installed and put to use.

Dr. Sani Adamu, who spoke for the two groups, said, "Apart from the incontrovertible facts our IT and legal teams have in their possession, and ready to bring to the attention of the tribunal, I wish to present to you another evidence obtainable by FoI."

Quoting the INEC chairman, Prof. Yakub Mahmood, Adamu stated the electoral body's chairman had publicly declared that "we are pioneering and deploying in 2019 general elections, a new platform for the electronic Collation and transmission of results of the 2019 elections".

The political rivalry between the Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, and his predecessor in office, who doubles as the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, has taken a new dimension and now taking a toll on the political harmony in the state. The political hostility, aimed at determining who is in control of the state, had hitherto been in the realm of speculation, until now as the supporters and traducers of the godfather and the godson recently took the ‘war’ to the state House of Assembly. The cold war took a new dimension last Monday following the purported swearing- in of nine members of the state House of Assembly, out of the 24 lawmakers elected to make laws for the state

In a carefully orchestrated plan, the assembly was inaugurated on Monday night and only the nine members said to be loyal to Obaseki, were available when the Clerk of Assembly, Alhaji Audu Omogbai, inaugurated the House. The factional nine thereby elected Mr. Frank Okiye from Esan North East I as Speaker, and Yekini Idiaye of Akoko-Edo I as Deputy Speaker, and immediately adjourned till July 17. The ‘Oshiomhole group of 15’ however kicked, insisting that the election was a nullity and went ahead to elect their own speaker, even as the governor has shown open support for the minority group by publicly congratulating the group of nine. ‘

Oshiomhole 15’ runs to Abuja, wooed with cash, cars

The situation has now led to a full blown division within the APC as checks by Saturday Telegraph last night revealed that the ‘Oshiomhole 15’ have relocated to Abuja to avoid being attacked by hoodlums allegedly sponsored by the state, just as our correspondents gathered that there are intense consultations and lobby from the state government to bring the 15 into the fold under the leadership of Okiye. Sources close to the ‘Oshiomhole 15’ informed Saturday Telegraph that the group was already being wooed by the government while negotiations are ongoing to give them between N5m and N10m with a Pajero SUV each. One of the lawmakers who confirmed the imformation, said that the battle is not being orchestrated by Oshiomhole but they are fighting a just cause.

He said: “Some of us still have integrity, Oshiomhole has no hands in this crisis. We are only fighting for the children yet unborn and this fight must stand.

“They are begging us with N5m for those of us they believe have less influence and N10m for others that are strong. We have relocated to Abuja because they want to kill us; they sent thugs after us,” he said. The source also informed that there is pressure on Okiye by some key stakeholders in the APC to ensure that the Clerk carries out another inauguration ceremony for the group of 15 on Monday. Both sides are now trading blames as the crisis continues to rage. While a section blame Oshiomhole for not speaking out since the imbroglio began, the group loyal to Obaseki insists the governor must be allowed to go for a second term The situation has led to a sharp division among the political class in the state and they are now giving different reactions and interpretations to the situation. While some call the assembly crisis a comedy, satire, melodrama, others say it is a political quagmire and a show of political power by the incumbent governor who wants to tell his former boss that he has come of age and now charge of affairs in the state.

We have no reason to induce anyone, says govt The state government however denied the allegation, saying that there is no need to induce the lawmakers either in cash or kind. Speaking with Saturday Telegraph, the Special Adviser (Media) to governor, Crusoe Osagie, said It was a blatant lie. “Why do we need to induce anyone? The EDHA has already been inaugurated and the main principal officials have been elected. All these were done independently and that is all that is important to us as the executive arm. “These are two independent arms of government and as the executive arm, we do not meddle with the affairs of the other arms of government. We are happy that the House has been inaugurated and a substantive speaker and deputy speaker have been elected meaning that legislative functions are actively being carried out in the House. “All other discussions will take place only among the members and executives of the EDHA. The governor and the executive arm have absolutely nothing to do with their internal affairs in the legislature”, he said.

I’m ashamed of Obaseki – Oshiomhole

Speaking last night when he received APC memberselect of the Bauchi Assembly, Oshiomhole said: “Unfortunately, the situation in Bauchi is also similar to the one that is happening in Edo State. I am ashamed to talk about it but there is nothing to hide. “We have a similar situation in Edo where in our own case we have 24/24 all of them APC but somebody wants a particular person as a Speaker, 19 out of 24 are opposed to this person.” We have a similar situation in Edo where in our own case we have 24/24 all of them APC but somebody wants a particular person as a Speaker, 19 out of 24 are opposed to this person.

They them decide to carry 6 members into the house who were willing why they invited the other ones as if for dinner only to arrive and be bundled into a vehicle, some of them in their nickers to be innauguared at 9.30pm. ”I have briefed the President in full having met with you earlier in the day when you shared with me the details. I have had conversations with the governor so I have all the facts. We members of the NWC have met with the IGP after deliberating on the issues. ”We will prevail on him to ensure that the police do not provide security for an illegal act, because the worst form of robbery is political robbery, it is worse than robbing people of their property.

“If you rob people of their right to govern, the people of Bauchi in their wisdom have chosen to entrust the leadership of the Bauchi State House of Assembly in the hands of the APC by voting for 21 of you while they allow PDP Only 10. That is that APC should control the legislature. There is nothing anybody can do in a democracy to change the fact.”

It’s a descent into anarchy, say Oshiomhole supporters

Speaking with Saturday Telegraph, one of the supporters of Oshiomhole, Mr. Henry Idahagbon, said the purported swearing in and inauguration of nine members was “nothing but Wake and See”, a popular slogan for Obaseki’s kind of politics. He said: “It signals a descent to anarchy in our dear state, and it shows the hypocritical disposition of the governor. He has ceded his authority and power to the deputy who is now the defacto governor. The inauguration cannot stand; it was done by the minority members and outside the sitting hours of the Assembly. It is a charade, the minorities have their say, and the majority will have their way in no distant time. “It also shows the how myopic those people are politically. In this democratic era, things are done according to the constitution of the land, no governor or president is bigger than the constitution, those of them there are just buying time. “I am a lawyer, I know what the law says, Edo people are peace-loving people, we do not want anything that will derail our democracy, and the right thing should be done so that the legislative arm of government will hit the ground running”, Idahagbon said.

In the same vein, an APC chieftain, Tony Adun (aka kabaka), said those in support of Oshiomhole were not worried but waiting for the appropriate time to change the government. “We are worried about what is happening in our state. What we know is that Obaseki has failed the people, most especially those who worked tirelessly to ensure that he became governor. We are very loyal to our National Chairman, Adams Oshiomhole, and on him we stand. Whoever the party brings out for 2020 governorship election is the person we will give our support to”, Kabaka asserted.

Also, a party chieftain from Edo North, who refused to be named, said what happened in Benin on Monday night was nothing but a foolish display of power by Obaseki. “When comrade was the governor of the state, things were not done this way, he did not divide the party that brought into power. And you cannot fight your master and succeed. No matter what people say about Oshiomhole, he is one governor that Edo people will not forget. Oshiomhole made so many people and brought democratic dividends to the door step of Edo people. “Obaseki has just invited more trouble for himself. How can you inaugurate just nine assembly members out of 24? What it means is that we do not want the problem to be resolved. Oshiomhole is a leader as far as APC is concerned in Nigeria. The files starts and ends on his table, he is a strategist and I know that when the time comes for the 2020 election, we will know where to belong”, he said.

Obaseki in order, says commissioner, factional speaker, others

But the state Commissioner for Communication and Orientation, Paul Ohonbanmu, disagree with those in Oshiomhole’s camp, insisting that the governor has done the right thing, while justifying the inauguration of the Assembly. “Those castigating our governor are pure enemies of development. Our governor did not impose any leadership on the House; he was only aligning with the party’s position. Our governor is working, and for him to deliver the dividends of democracy to the good people of Edo State, he needs the legislative arm of government to get on board.

“We cannot afford a repetition of what happened in the past, a situation where there were four speakers in the House within four years. The lawmakers are happy with the newly elected Speaker of the House. We are very comfortable with the arrangement. A speaker has been elected for Edo Assembly and I appeal to all Edo people to support Mr. Governor to enable him to deliver the goods”, he said. In the same vein, the factional speaker, Hon. Frank Okiye, said he and his group were ready to take up the challenges and prepared to deal with the complexity associated with the current situation. “We are set to commence work immediately. As legislators, we are ready to collaborate with the executives for easy delivery that will lead to greater Edo through motions and bills. There is no course for alarm; we are equal to the task.

Toeing the speaker’s line, one of the newly elected lawmakers, Hon. Washington Osifo, said Obaseki is working and should be supported at all levels of governance. “You will agree with me that the tenure of the 6th Assembly members expired on June 7th 2019, so by the virtue of Section 105 (3) of the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 as amended, requires the governor to immediately issue a letter of proclamation for the inauguration of the new Assembly to avoid vacuum. “So what the state governor has done is in order. My advice to my colleagues is for them to join hands with us so that we can move this state forward”, Osifo said.

APC condemns inauguration

The APC national leadership has however condemned the inauguration and election of the speaker describing it as a charade, while calling on the state governor to issue a proper letter of proclamation to the clerks for proper inauguration. The APC National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu, in a statement, said: “The APC condemns the charade being presented as the inauguration of new houses of assembly in Edo and Bauchi states. “We viewed this illegality with shock and disappointment. As a party that has made a commitment to change, we strongly reject any attempt to take recourse to brigandage of the past, when democratic practices were defined by the inordinate whims of people in power.

“Democracy must be governed by the rule of law. A situation where 11 lawmakers in the 31-member Bauchi State House of Assembly and nine lawmakers in the 24-member Edo State House of Assembly were ecretly ‘inaugurated’ and purportedly ‘elect’ principal officers behind closed doors is a joke and an embarrassment. “It is an unfortunate reminder of PDP’s queer brand of democracy. Practices like this are unacceptable under APC-led administration.

As a party that is committed to higher ideals, we would use all democratic means necessary to ensure the right thing is done.” Issa-Onilu also referred to the recent inauguration and election of Principal Officers of the 9th National Assembly as a standard, as he said, “Perhaps the actors in the inauguration sham in Edo and Bauchi need to be reminded of the recent and widely-commended election of presiding officers in the newly-inaugurated 9th National Assembly. Our party has set new standards in party politics by upstaging the rule of force, while upholding the rule of law. “It needs restating that every elected lawmaker has a legitimate right to participate unhindered in the inauguration of the legislative arm in which he/she belongs.

The plot to arm-twist the majority in favour of the minority in the legislative arm died with the defeat of the PDP in 2015.” Advising the governors, the party called on Obaseki and Bauchi State governor, Bala Mohammed to urgently do the needful by issuing a proper letter of proclamation to allow for the lawful inauguration of their respective states House of Assembly and subsequent election of presiding officers in a transparent manner.”

‘Obaseki 9’ says no to APC

But in a swift reaction, the leadership of the Edo Assembly faulted the stance of the APC, noting that the party lacked the powers to adjudicate on the election of house leadership. In a statement issued last night, the factional speaker, Okiye, said, “the APC lacks the powers to adjudicate on constitutional functions of the legislature.

“We have read with disappointment the flip-flop of the National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu, on the issue of the election of the leadership of the Edo State House of Assembly. We recall very clearly that, he said that the APC has a structure, noting that the state chapter of the party was in the best position to intervene in the issue.”

Okiye quoted the APC publicity secretary as saying in a newspaper publication: “It is not every issue that the national leadership responds to. That is why we have structure; you can relate to the APC in the state. I can’t respond to that; we have structure. It has not gotten to what the media was trying to make it look like. “In about 48 hours, his stance has dramatically changed. He declared that the national leadership of the party is disappointed with the emergence of rt. Hon. Frank Okiye as Speaker of the 7th Edo State House of Assembly, calling it ‘a charade’ and an ‘illegality.’ “This sudden u-turn leaves us wondering if it was the same Mallam Issa- Onilu with his faculties intact speaking or if it is somebody else with vested interests that is speaking through him.”

‘Oshiomhole 15’ reacts

In the same vein, the spokesman of the group of 15, Mr. Washington Osifo last night challenged the APC to speak out more forcefully over the matter, now that there is a ceasefire between both sides. He said the members elect were fighting a cause they believe in, pointing out that “whatever we do must be borne out of good conscience. On the collection of Code of Conduct form and other relevant documents as pointed out by Okiye, Osifo stated that his group were among those that first collected, filled and submitted the forms even before the speaker. He maintained that what the government is attempting, is to exclude the majority “in order to ensure that the minority continues to rule and that we will not accept. “If there are things to be said, the party should speak. I am more interested in the process than the outcome; it is about the issue of credibility. You cannot promote minority over the majority.

We resolve in favour of those we represent. The truth is that we will not accept the situation where the minority will rule over the majority. We have collected the form even before Okiye collected with date and time even before the kangaroo thing they did and that is not an issue; this things are there for people to see,” Osifo added.

5.1-magnitude earthquake strikes in France

An earthquake measuring 5.1 on the Richter scale has struck near the Loire Valley in western France.

Thousands of people felt the tremor when it struck around 8.50am on Friday near the town of Bressuire, though no damage was immediately reported. Alarmed residents reported the quake from as far afield as Normandy in the north, and Bordeaux in the south.

Reports also flooded in from the cities of Le Mans, Nantes, Rennes and Caen. It comes after a quake of magnitude 4.9 struck around 30 miles north of Bordeaux in late March this year.

Earthquakes of such magnitude are considered moderate but are relatively rare in France, though dozens of moderate quakes are recorded each year.  The last deadly earthquake to hit France occurred in 1909 when a magnitude 6 tremor struck in the town of Lambesc in Provence.

Prophet Jacob Adegboyega Farinmade Kills, Buries Pregnant Undergraduate

Quote:The Lagos State Police Command has arrested a 72-year-old prophet of Celestial Church of Christ in Ipaja area, Jacob Adegboyega Farinmade for allegedly killing a female undergraduate he impregnated.

The deceased, identified simply as Bunmi allegedly died during childbirth, while the clergyman secretly buried her without informing her parents.

Bunmi was said to have been taken by her father to live with her mother following her rustication in 200 level at Babcock University in Ilisan Remo, Ogun State in 2014.

Bunmi’s mother, Derayo Omisipi thereafter took her to the embattled cleric for spiritual deliverance and protection.

Sources said the cleric who already had more than 10 wives took advantage of Bunmi’s stay in his church for the purported deliverance to lure the girl to bed and impregnated her.

It was learnt that the cleric did not allow the deceased to attend any antenatal clinic throughout the duration of her pregnancy.

Sources also said the cleric broke the news of the girl’s death to her mother after he had buried her in a shallow grave near his church premises.

The father of the deceased became curious after her mother could not offer satisfactory explanation about her whereabouts.

The disturbed father reported the matter to the police and the cleric was arrested.

The matter is being handled by the Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), where the prophet is currently detained.

Confirming the incident, the spokesman of Lagos State Police Command, Mr Bala Elkanah said the suspect had been charged to court for murder.

MultiChoice to lay off thousands of workers

MultiChoice to lay off thousands of workers

MultiChoice Africa, a multinational video entertainment company, has announced plans to restructure its customer service model, leading to the possible loss of over 2,000 jobs.

The restructuring would create new opportunities for “multi-skilled employees with the expertise, skills and technological prowess to enhance the customer experience,” Calvo Mawela, MultiChoice group chief executive, said in a statement on Friday.

Mawela said the company would enter into a “consultation process with 2,194 of its employees within customer care (call centre) and the walk-in centres as part of the strategic realignment of its customer service delivery model”.

“The realignment is a response to the changing behaviour of customers, who are increasingly moving away from traditional voice calls and visits to walk-in centres and adopting new self-service and digital technologies to engage with the company,” Mawela said.

“The video entertainment sector is seeing a rapid evolution with a growing number of players that have entered the industry. We have worked hard to minimise the impact of the business realignment on our people– those directly impacted by the process and their colleagues in the rest of the business.

“This has not been an easy decision to make but, in a business driven by advancing technologies, we must continue to drive efficiencies yet be agile enough to adapt to evolving customer needs to ensure that we remain relevant, competitive and sustainable.

“We must act decisively to align to the change in customer behaviour and competition from (over-the-top, or OTT) services (like Netflix) because if we don’t reposition now, we run the risk of being completely misaligned and we put everyone’s jobs at risk.”

In a statement on its website, the company said it has over 2,750 individuals working in 14 countries.
In Nigeria, MultiChoice operates DSTV and GoTV, both pay-TV services, with over 1,000 directly employed by the media conglomerate and thousands more indirectly.

It is not clear if the job cut will affect MultiChoice staff in Nigeria, but the statement said consultation process with affected employees will take place over 60 days.

A decomposing body of a 16-year-old housemaid allegedly killed and dumped in the bush by the Divisional Police Officer in charge of Mashi Local Government Area, Garba Talawai, has been found by the police.

The deceased teenager, Rabi Abdullahi, was a housegirl to the DPO’s girlfriend, Sadiya Danyaya.

DAILY NIGERIAN gathered that the DPO, who allegedly impregnated the girl, made unsuccessful efforts to abort the pregnancy that resulted to the death of the girl.

The body of Rabi Abdullahi

“When he realised that she died, the DPO sought the help of another policeman to dump the body in the bush,” said a source in the town who preferred not to be named.

Already the Katsina Police Commissioner, Sanusi Buba, has ordered the arrest and detention of Mr Talawai, a superintendent of police, after a preliminary report indicted him in the murder.

In a statement by the command’s spokesman, Gambo Isa, Rabi’s corpse was discovered at a bush path in Mashi on Thursday.

Mr Isa, a superintendent of police, noted that while at the hospital, some staff identified the corpse to be the one brought by the DPO and one policeman on Wednesday.

According to the spokesman, the DPO’s girlfriend had confirmed to the police that Rabi was her maid and that she had been missing since Wednesday — an incident she reported to the DPO.

Safiya told investigators that Rabi went missing after she rebuked her for carrying unwanted pregnancy.

Mr Isa noted that both the DPO and his girlfriend, Safiya have been detained for thorough investigation to determine their culpability in the murder.

He said a new Divisional Police Officer has already been posted to Mashi.

“The Commissioner of police, Katsina state Command, CP Sanusi Buba, psc, assures the parents of the deceased and indeed the good people of Katsina state that the command will not leave any stone unturned until justice is done in the matter,” the statement added.

Dismissed Policeman Kills Fiancée’s Mother In Delta State Over Cancelled Wedding

Quote:Dismissed policeman kills fiancée’s mother over cancelled wedding

An ex-policeman, Ogwu Christian, has been arrested for allegedly killing his fiancée’s mother, Veronica Obiejieogo, over the cancellation of their wedding date.

Christian reportedly shot the 45-year-old woman dead at short range while she was walking along a street in : her village in Delta State. He thereafter fled the scene on a motorcycle.

City Round learnt that his wedding to Obiejieogo’s daughter, Blessing, had been fixed for December 27, 2018.

He had reportedly given Blessing money to buy clothes and some other items they would use on that day.

Few days to the ceremony, it was learnt that 39-year-old Christian noticed that Blessing was evasive as he no longer got updates on the wedding plans from her.

City Round gathered that when it became clear that the wedding would not hold as scheduled, Christian went to Blessing’s village in Otolokpo and killed her mother, whom he accused of cancelling the event.

He relocated to Port Harcourt, Rivers State, afterwards.

Our correspondent learnt that operatives of the Inspector-General of Police Intelligence Response Team went after Christian following a petition to the IGP, Mohammed Adamu, on the incident.

After months of tracking him, the suspect was arrested recently in Port Harcourt, while he allegedly was about to carry out a fraudulent deal.

The police said Christian, who was dismissed from the Force in 2005, had been parading himself as a senior officer to defraud members of the public and policemen seeking promotion.

In an interview with City Round during the week, the native of Afor in the Ndukwa East Local Government area of Delta State, confessed to the murder of his fiancée’s mother, adding that he believed the victim discouraged her daughter from marrying him.

He stated that he was frustrated and felt betrayed after he had planned big for the wedding.

He recalled, “I met Blessing at Ogwuachukwu Polytechnic, Delta State, where she was a student. She told me she was single and we started a relationship. In the process, she became pregnant but she aborted it. She said she could not have a child for me because I wasn’t known to her family.

“In April 2018, I went for a formal introduction and her family asked me to come back for a more elaborate ‘introduction ceremony.’ On September 7, 2018, I went back with my family for the ceremony and they gave us the list of things required for the marriage. In October, Blessing informed me that she was pregnant. We then fixed the wedding for December 27, 2018 and I gave her money to buy clothes that we would use for the marriage.

“On December 5, 2018, she called me and said she was on her way to Asaba, where I resided and after waiting for her for a long time, I called her, but she didn’t pick up her calls. One of her brothers known as Friday informed me that she had a miscarriage and was at the hospital in Asaba with her mother. I went to the hospital but I was not allowed to see Blessing and her mother.

“Some days later, I called her to know what was going on. She told me she was in her friend’s place in Asaba. I went there but I didn’t see her after waiting all day.

“On December 21, 2018, she told me on the phone that she had travelled to Lagos. I became very angry and met with one of my friends known as Steven.”

The ex-policeman explained that he rented a gun with two live cartridges from Steven for N10,000 and headed for his fiancée’s village on December 26, 2018 – the eve of the thwarted wedding.

He said shortly before he killed Obiejieogo, he took some alcohol and drugs to toughen up.

He added, “I went to a shop close to my fiancée’s house and bought a bottle of dry gin and Tramadol. I took them at once to get inspiration so that I would not change my mind. While I was at the shop, I sighted her mother and her younger brother walking towards my direction. I went to them, brought out my gun and shot the woman. I then zoomed off on a motorcycle and relocated to Rivers State.”

But a police source disclosed to our correspondent that the deceased discouraged her daughter from marrying Christian after she discovered he was a fraudster.

“The incident that got the deceased angry was when Christian defrauded two residents of her community, whom he had offered to help secure jobs at the Federal Road Safety Commission. He collected N25,000 each from the victims, but he didn’t get them the jobs as promised,” the source added.

Narrating his escapades as a fraudster, Christian said he joined a gang after he was dismissed from the Nigeria Police Force over a gun allegedly snatched away from him by some armed robbers at a checkpoint.

He said, “I attended training at the Police College, Ikeja, Lagos. I was posted to the Edo State Police Command, where I served for five years before I was dismissed. I joined a fraud syndicate operating in Asaba. The man who initiated me into the syndicate taught me all the tricks.

“I started using my police experience to defraud people. I adopted the rank of an Assistant Superintendent of Police and people started coming to me for assistance.

“Some policemen, who wanted promotion, paid me to help them because I told them I was working in the IGP’s office in Abuja. People who wanted to get recruited into the police also came to me and I usually collected N150,000 per person.

“Those applying for Cadet ASP, paid me N400,000 each. In some cases, I succeeded in helping them, using my connections.”

Policemen Assault A Man In Delta, Inflict Injuries On His Head With Gun (Graphic

A Nigerian man identified as Sagacious took to Facebook to share the story of how he was assaulted today by police and wrote..

'The Nigerian Police brutality continued on Nigerians citizens just today again in Owhelogbo Junction,Ozoro,Isoko North,Delta state . they abused, brutalized and assaulted me using the but of their rifles leading to my sustaining deep cuts in my head . I am presently admitted in Ozoro general Hospital .

The Police team is led by one Nelson whose other name I cannot recall but with the force number 444916. the Mobile Police Personnel attached to AGIP before proceeding to the flow station in Isoko South carried out this unjustified abuse on my right as a law abiding citizen.

The reason for the assault was simply because I asked them to give access to vehicular movement that their own vehicles were obstructing.

I have made a formal complaint to the Ozoro Division of police for investigation.'

"Our leader ordered me to hide in the ceiling with the gadgets so that I will not be nabbed also," Esi said.

Upon arrest, Ahunwan the prime suspect, confessed that he recruited the team, saying they were paying back Europeans for stealing from their forefathers. He also alleged that the parents of the arrested accomplices gave their consent and pleaded with him to help their children secure a means of livelihood.

Items recovered from the suspected fraudsters include: 10 laptops, eight internet modems, several sophisticated telephone handsets, including one iphone, technical devices and scam emails. Items recovered from them include expensive watches and necklaces, expensive phones, tablets, laptops and several fraudulent documents. All the suspects will be charged to court as soon as investigations are concluded.

RHAPSODY OF REALITIES

SATURDAY, 22ND JUNE.

WISDOM IS A GUIDING FORCE

Yet wisdom is vindicated (shown to be true and divine) by all her children [by their life, character, and deeds] (Luke 7:35 AMPC).

True wisdom is the manifestation or revelation of the rightness of God in your spirit; it’s a guiding force that causes you to act, respond or speak beyond natural human reasoning. It’s also the expression of the power of God in thoughts, plans, purpose and decision-making. When the wisdom of God functions in you, it becomes the power that influences your choices in life. That’s why it’s a guiding force.

Wisdom propels you in the right direction in life, and positions you in the place of advantage. For example, Genesis 39 tells the story of Joseph, who was sold into slavery in Egypt by his brothers.

Nevertheless, the Bible says he found grace in the sight of Potiphar, his master, and served him: “…and he made him overseer over his house, and all that he had he put into his hand” (Genesis 39:4).

In the course of time, Joseph was imprisoned because his master’s wife accused him falsely. But wisdom promoted Joseph, and gave him the advantage, such that even while in prison, he became the head of the prisoners. Joseph’s story is a very inspiring one.

Notice Pharaoh’s remarks to his servants as a result of the wisdom he saw and heard in Joseph: “...Can we find such a one as this is, a man in whom the Spirit of God is? And Pharaoh said unto Joseph, Forasmuch as God hath shewed thee all this, there is none so discreet and wise as thou art: Thou shalt be over my house, and according unto thy word shall all my people be ruled: only in the throne will I be greater than thou…See, I have set thee over all the land of Egypt” (Genesis 41:38-41).

The Egyptian Empire was preserved by the wisdom of God revealed in the thirty-year-old Hebrew prisoner, Joseph. Wisdom promoted him from being a prisoner to become Prime Minister of the most powerful empire overnight.

No wonder we’re admonished in the Word to celebrate and exalt wisdom (Proverbs 4:8). When you do, wisdom will promote you and propel you in the path of honour and greatness.

CONFESSION

I speak wisdom, I walk in wisdom, and I manifest wisdom, because Christ has been made unto me wisdom. I have great amplitude of comprehension, and deal wisely in all my affairs. I’m guided and propelled by wisdom to think, talk and act right always, in sync with God’s perfect will, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.

FURTHER STUDY

1 Corinthians 1:30 But of him are ye in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption:

Proverbs 4:5-9 Get wisdom, get understanding: forget it not; neither decline from the words of my mouth. 6 Forsake her not, and she shall preserve thee: love her, and she shall keep thee. 7 Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding. 8 Exalt her, and she shall promote thee: she shall bring thee to honour, when thou dost embrace her. 9 She shall give to thine head an ornament of grace: a crown of glory shall she deliver to thee.

#TALKINGSESSION

22ND JUNE.

KINDLY SAY THESE WORDS OUT LOUD

Dear Father, I thank You for granting me supernatural abilities, so I can be more effective in the ministry of reconciliation. I rejoice to have the Holy Spirit living in me, granting me increased grace and wisdom to show forth Your righteousness, and unveil Your glory tovthe world.

I thank You for showing me the way to a fruitful and glorious life. As I respond to Your Word in agreement, my life is lifted above the crippling principles of this world, and I am catapulted from victory to victory, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.

God bless you

Human rights lawyer, Mr Femi Falana (SAN), has accused President Muhammadu Buhari of promoting illegality by allowing his 100 aides to remain in office despite the expiration of their tenure.

He noted that the President’s Chief of Staff, Abba Kyari; the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustafa; his media aides, Garba Shehu and Fem Adesina; and others had continued with their official duties without being re-appointed.
Falana said this in a message he sent to our correspondent on Thursday.

The activist said, “Like ministers, special advisers and other political appointees were appointed by President Buhari for a four-year term of office in 2015.

Consequently, the tenure of all the political appointees expired on May 29, 2019 by effluxion of time. Hence, the federal cabinet was dissolved while all ministers were relieved of their appointments at the end of the four-year tenure.

“In the same vein, all other political appointees ought to have been asked to relinquish their positions. Since President has not sacked them or renewed their appointments there has arisen the urgent need to avoid a constitutional crisis whereby the actions of such persons who have continued to occupy offices illegally may be questioned or declared illegal by a court of law.”

Falana urged the President to do needful by immediately sacking the aides he no longer needs or re-appoint them so that they can remain in office as dictated by the constitution.

Another human rights lawyer, Inibehe Effiong, had a few weeks ago threatened to approach a Federal High Court for interpretation and enforcement of Section 151 and 171 of the 1999 Constitution following continued stay in office of Buhari’s 100 aides without being re-appointed.

I can never be silenced - Festus Adedayo writes after Senate President, Ahmed Lawan, withdrew his appointment following public outcry from APC youths

Yesterday, Senate President, Ahmad Lawan, withdrew the appointment of Festus Adedayo as his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity. His decision came following a public outcry from members of his party who believe they have been sidelined.

In his reaction, Festus said, ' I thank Lawan for the offer. He will be my model of a good Nigerian forever. If those who spearheaded the attack thought it would silence me in my bid for a good country, they have another think coming. I can never be silenced'.

See his full post below....

Quote:I was just informed a few minutes ago of the withdrawal of the appointment offered me as the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the Nigerian Senate President, Dr. Ahmed Lawan. I had hitherto enjoyed every of the diatribes provoked by the appointment. I was told it was the most discussed issue in Nigeria in the last few days. Of course, it was not humanly possible for me to read the over 5000 tweets and thousands of comments on other social media. As at the time of writing this, the issue was said to be the most-discussed in Nigeria on the social media. Said to be the brainchild of some hired Rottweiler dogs loyal to some lords in the APC, a campaign dubbed #sackfestusadedayo was mounted immediately and within hours, had given birth to thousands of recruits. Many of the commentators who took liberty to harangue me have no idea of who I am and went on a railroaded binge to dress me in an alien robe.

Of a truth, I am a venomous critic of President Muhammadu Buhari, with no apologies. Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, Adams Oshiomhole, Ibikunle Amosu, Bukola Saraki and several others have been on the receiving end of the unkind temper of my pen. But call my attention to five pieces I did in dispraise of Tinubu, I will call yours to the three I did in his praise, at very grave danger to my life and career, even though Tinubu can’t pick me up in a crowd. Someday when he and I meet, I hope to tell him the consequential bullet I once bit for his sake. Since 1998 when I began column-writing, I have a graveyard of public personalities whom my cudgel has whiplashed for perceived infractions in power. Give me 10 pieces I wrote in uncomplimentary review of President Buhari, I will give you 20 I did in utter vilification of Jonathan, his ministers and those close to him. Jonathan never raised a voice against me. One thing my traducers don’t know is that I have no attachment to those criticisms. I am like a prophet; once I deliver my message, I move on.

What those who are vilifying me for always writing against government should have done was to rise from their laziness and conduct an x-ray of my writing. In my close to 20 years of public sphere intervention, I am a rabid anti-establishment person. I believe that in establishment lies the plague of the Nigerian state and my writings reflect this much. Even though I am everything but a saint, I believe that government should reflect the highest moral echelon of society and those who run it should make covenant of chastity and fidelity with themselves.

More fundamentally is that my pen knows no friend or foe. Very early in my writing career, I learnt that I could go far in the people’s heart if I sided with the public against government. This was abetted by my philosophy degree background which teaches me to always look for disorder, even in order. I am a natural pessimist and see pessimism in optimism. Anyone who does a critical assessment of my journey as a columnist will see this without any equivocation.

I doubt if any government has received greater unfavourable reviews from my pen than the Olusegun Obasanjo government. His ministers were weekly captives of my acidic pen. His Chief Press Secretary, Chief Tunji Oseni, upon once inviting me to the monthly Presidential Media Chat, told me to my face that he regretted inviting a rabid anti-Obasanjo journalist like me to the event. Chief Bola Ige, God bless his soul, was the first recipient of my column’s bile in the government. He wrote Page 9 while I wrote Page 3 of the Sunday Tribune, with his Uncle Bola’s Column, even as Attorney General of the Federation. A few weeks after the ministers’ inauguration and they were given Wardrobe allowance, I flagellated all of them, including Chief Ige, a known acolyte of Chief Obafemi Awolowo, who owned the medium. When Chief Ige reacted to my attack and spoke of me in bad light, I took him up again and almost insinuated that he was senile. Rather than take further umbrage, he apologized to me. This was the Ige who, one day when I went to his house, in the company of other colleagues, once commended my writing.

Very scant people know that the governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde, is my friend. A few weeks ago, I rudely dragged him to the public square over his decision to cancel the N3000 school fees in the state, so much that those who know my association with him asked if there was a dissonance in our relationship. If you rummage through the archives, you would see lacerations on the body of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, products of my unkind jabs. It began from 1999. If I have written 100 articles referencing Abubakar, we may barely find three that are positive about him. Apart from seeing him on the television, I probably saw him once in my life in the crowd. Former governors Niyi Adebayo of Ekiti State, Olusegun Osoba, Adebayo Alao-Akala, Rashidi Ladoja received unkind tackles from me. I am very close to Governor Rotimi Akeredolu of Ondo State; the day I felt his decision was against my people of Akure, I wrote against him. Rummage through the archives, you would see how I pounced on Senator Bukola Saraki severally with my pen; you would think we once sparred over possession of same woman. The truth is, my writings are political party and tribe-blind. I detest injustice, politics and run away from politicians as much as I can. One thing you cannot accuse me of being complicit of is the vermin that has eaten into the fabrics of my journalism profession. While I am not a saint, I have never blackmailed anyone in my life and I have very scant veneration for the god of Mammon.

The person who nominated me for this office under contention will bear me witness: I told him point blank when he intimated me of the proposed nomination that I had sworn never to do the job of a publicist again in my life, after my two experiences in government. It is a job that almost asks for your life; where you have no respite of any kind. More importantly, all my life, I have never lobbied for any office. Second is that, I believe that my stints in government have almost killed the deposit of writing talent in me. Judging by my beginning as a writer, today I should be one of Africa’s most-read fiction writers.

Meeting Senate President Ahmed Lawan in Abuja rekindled my hope in Nigeria. Like me, he is tribe-blind. He is also very unassuming and cerebral. He interviewed me and another candidate as if we were in a doctoral defence class and settled for me as his choice. Nigerian politicians have a lot to learn from that gentleman and his politics of blindness to tribe and political party affiliation. He told me he wanted excellence and would pick whoever among us he saw as equating that score.

I have read all manner of lies concocted against me on the social media by politicians, all because they want this job at all cost. I do not have any problem with that. One post said Tinubu gave me a Lexus jeep. Those who are close to me know how mendacious this is as I have never even entered such Luxury in my life. That I was considered for the job is enough happiness for me and that, in my life, I would see a Nigerian like Lawan who has such pan-Nigerian mindset, is a great accomplishment.

I was told the job has been withdrawn. I thank Lawan for the offer. He will be my model of a good Nigerian forever. If those who spearheaded the attack thought it would silence me in my bid for a good country, they have another think coming. I can never be silenced. I will always advocate for a good country; whether it hurts Buhari or anyone.

If I had finally settled for the job, I would be doing it at a great cost. I am right now a student of the Nigerian Law School and the rules forbid my working while a student. I would have had to walk away from a painful studentship I embarked upon last November that will come to an end in about two and half months from now. It is providence in action that I am not going to have the job.

To those who spearheaded it, I have no space in my heart for any acrimony against them. It has further strengthened my belief that we must rid Nigeria of hate and politics of the stomach. One thing that Nigerians who read my column should be rest assured of is that I will never waver on the side of power or any politician in government for a pot of porridge. According to Bob Goldstein, "a principle isn't a principle until it costs you something." I am happy that this is what my quest for a good society, through my writing, has cost me. This is my creed.

TB Joshua Crusade In Nazareth Israel: Churches, Islamic Cleric, Politicians Kick

Quote:Church, Islamic, Political Leaders Want TB Joshua Banned In Israel, Reject His Crusade

*Say Joshua is a false prophet seeking to exploit Mount Precipice, preach Lies

Churches, Islamic clerics and political groups in Nazareth, the largest city in the northern district of Israel, have joined forces against a two-day crusade being planned by Nigerian preacher, TB Joshua, at Mount Precipice.

The churches and Islamic leaders want Joshua banned from preaching in Israel and called for the cancellation of the planned crusade, Israeli’s popular newspaper, Haaretz, reports on Thursday.

According to the newspaper, church officials meeting in Nazareth several days ago urged residents to boycott the event and clerics to avoid any mention of it in their sermons.

“We beg you not to play in the hands of those organizing this type of festival which is an affront to the principles of Christianity, and our national identity, and deals a blow to the social fabric of a city like Nazareth,” the churches were quoted as saying.

Haaretz reports that the church officials quoted text from the New Testament about how believers must be cautious about false messiahs who try to convince people they’re performing miracles.

Most of the churches in Nazareth have reportedly signed their support for the statement – all but the Roman Catholic Church, which has avoided taking a clear stand.

Joshua, arguably one of the most popular TV figures in Africa and Latin America, is set to hold two events at a Christian site in the city.

Joshua is the founder of The Synagogue, Church of All Nations, a Christian organization that runs the Emmanuel TV television station from Lagos, which has a YouTube channel with 1.5 million subscribers. Arguably one of the most popular figures on television across Africa and Latin America, Joshua has 3.5 million followers on Facebook.

T.B. Joshua, a controversial pastor whose sermon has drawn criticisms, is famous for performing miracles in his Lagos church attended by thousands every week. His visit to Israel is supported by Nazareth Mayor Ali Sallam, but many in the city oppose it, some of them alleging that the pastor has ties to far-right Israelis.

He has visited Israel in the past and written of forging a covenant with God to start his ministry, as well as hinting a couple of years ago of considering relocation to Israel.

Thousands participate in his prayer sessions and exorcism rituals. Many video clips have been released on social media in recent days announcing the "rock-star" pastor’s visit.

In response to a query from Haaretz, Father Emil Shopany of the Catholic Church said there’s no reason not to host such a visit and that he, as opposed to others, will support the mayor’s position. He said Nazareth is an open city and that you cannot stop a religious man from abroad who decides to visit from holding prayers like thousands of pilgrims do.

But even members of Sallam’s coalition have criticized the visit. Haj Samir Sa’adi, a city councilor, has expressed his opposition to Joshua’s visit in a letter and has urged its cancellation.

“The planned visit by the person called T.B. Joshua to the city of the Annunciation is a challenge to the Christian faith in the city of Jesus’s boyhood and the Nazareth of ancient history, which does not need such a stain as this in which a false prophet exploits Mount Precipice to disseminate his lies,” he wrote.

Muslims from Nazareth and elsewhere have joined Sa’adi’s protests, among them the council of muftis, which has urged that the event be cancelled: “This is an event that would offend believers of all ethnic groups and religions and should be seen as a red line for faith in religious values. Therefore we call upon those who are behind the event to see to its immediate cancellation,” their statement said.

Among politicians, the event is also seen as volatile, and calls have been issued on social media to block the main roads to Mount Precipice. The Hadash and Youth for Change parties in the city council have demanded a meeting about the decision to invite the pastor to hold an event at a city installation against the wishes of the majority of residents.

“We have asked to take an in-depth look at this issue, at why a city like Nazareth would receive such a person who is denied entry to many countries on grounds of criminal suspicions and given his links to the extreme right in Israel,” they wrote. “What's more, the man is known to have grown wealthy in a way that has raised many questions and therefore we view such a visit as an illegitimate step which contaminates the city and its historic heritage, and we absolutely reject the mayor’s claims that such an event would bring $1 million to the city and would see such a sum were it to actually materialize as an illegitimate contribution that would contaminate the city.”

The mayor has not responded to appeals by Haaretz for comment.

Police are meanwhile preparing for an expected crowd of 15,000 people at the event.

Joshua visited Israel two years ago, hosted by ZAKA founder Yehuda Meshi Zahav. Meshi Zahav has also visited Joshua in Nigeria. During his visit, Joshua met with Idan Greenbaum, the Jordan Valley regional council head.

Channel 12 reported at the time that Joshua had said he plans to move his operations to Israel and that he said that six out of 10 foreigners visiting Nigeria attend exorcism rites at Joshua’s church. Greenbaum said a number of ideas were raised in their meeting to contribute to tourism in the Jordan Valley and Sea of Galilee area, but these ideas have not yet been carried out. But Greenbaum said that Joshua’s visit had received wide media coverage in his country and attracted tourism to Israel and the Jordan Valley.

Haaretz reports that a statement released ahead of Joshua’s visit says this would be his first event in the Middle East, that it would have a positive impact on the local economy, and that he has visited Israel many times and met with leading officials including Tourism Minister Yariv Levin, Communications Minister Ayoub Kara and Chief Rabbi David Lau.

We Have Evidence INEC Procured, Installed, Deployed Servers - Two Groups Claim
User Avatar Forum: News
Posted by: Edoman - 06-21-2019, 09:48 PM - No Replies

A committee of information technology and legal experts has claimed to have incontrovertible evidence about Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) servers, installed in 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.

The groups, Deservation and Pukka Initiative, made the revelation in Yola, Thursday night, showing a document, that detailed how and when INEC server was allegedly installed and put to use.

He, therefore, decried alleged moves by INEC to deny the availability of the server, stressing that the action is grave, just as it is a looming national disaster.

Countering the electoral umpire's claims, Adamu referred to "INEC's 2017-2021 strategic programme of action document, page 5, serial number 1.4 and key action, titled 'improve ICT operational deployment and utilization, including activities SN 1.4.1 to SN 1.4.57", saying these series of activities "have captured all the essence of the server deployment by INEC".

He insisted that all of the activities underscored the approval for a server and its subsequent implementation between the first quarter of 2017 and the fourth quarter of 2018.

"Specifically, based on activities SN 1.4.57 in the strategic programme of action 2017-2021, the INEC leadership have received the approval for the transmission of electronic results to the collation centres.

"In the same vein, SN 1.4.16 indicates that INEC has received the approval to procure servers for the 36 states and the FCT in the second quarter of 2017 and completed in the second quarter of 2018.

"For the avoidance of doubt, I wish to tender a copy of the 2017-2021 strategic programme of action document, which dealt with issues of ICT including servers, card readers and the electronic transmission of election results," he claimed.

He called on all Nigerians to join the campaign for INEC to own up and do the needful. "Because we are in a situation similar to the June 12 of Moshood Abiola," he added.

'May God publicly punish me'' Reno Omokri reacts to allegation he diverted funds generated for Leah Shurabai

Earlier today, social media, paticularly Nigerian Twitter, was ogog with the allegations that Reno Omokri had diverted funds generated for Leah Sharibu, the only remaining Dapchi girl in Boko Haram captivity.

Reacting via his siocial media handle, Reno said May God punish him if he ever diverted the funds meant for Leah. Read his reaction below

Quote:I am currently enjoying the time of my life in Ethiopia and I am too BLESSED to be STRESSED by the DISTRESSED who are spreading rumours that I am benefiting from my Free Leah Campaign. I started the #FreeLeahSharibumovement and I‘ve not and will not make money from it. I wrote a book on Leah Sharibu and gave ALL the money to her mum.
I uses my own money to make #FreeLeahSharibu T-Shirts and I sold them to the public and asked buyers to pay the money DIRECTLY to Leah's father's account. If there is anyone who has paid me money in public or secret, then be bold enough to EXPOSE me.
I have NOT collected money from any CHARITY or FOUNDATION. Why would I? MONEY is not my PROBLEM. My PROBLEM is how to INVEST and SPEND the money I made LEGALLY from my Number One Bestseller. God APPOINTED me. My haters can't UNDART or DISAPPOINT me.
Because of the #FreeLeahSharibu movement, I have been to 27 countries in 2019 (so far) with MY OWN MONEY. I have met and convinced world leaders, including Boris Johnson, and pop stars, including Shalamar, to wear the Free Leah T-Shirts ON MY OWN DIME.
I went to Mount Everest because of #FreeLeahSharibu and made the movement go global. My money and my money alone is driving the movement. I have not collected a DIME from any local or international agency. If you have proof to the contrary, EXPOSE me.
I don't mean to be vain. I only say this because of what these bitter haters are saying. But, God blessed me with:
GOOD LOOKS
GOOD BOOKS, and
GOOD MONEY.
So of course they will hate me. They want to be me. But it is not by power or might, but by God's grace.
Finally, if I have taken money from any agency or charity, then may God PUBLICLY punish me. But if these haters have falsely accused me, then my Father in heaven, please PUBLICLY avenge me. Meanwhile, #FreeLeahSharibu continues. Haters, think of new LIES.

Favour Ogheneyenrowho: 18-Year-Old Girl Killed In Abraka, Delta (Photos)
User Avatar Forum: Other Stories
Posted by: Edoman - 06-21-2019, 04:48 PM - No Replies

An 18-year old girl identified as Favour Ogheneyenrowho has been reportedly strangled to death by suspected ritualists in Abraka, Ethiope-East council area of Delta state.

It was gathered that the victim’s pubic hairs were shaved off before she was murdered and her remains kept in a “Ghana-must-Go” bag which was disposed at a dump site behind Ozoro park in the town.

Recounting the incident leading to the teenager’s demise, Maureen Sunday, her elder sister, told the police that Favour, had received a call from a male at about 10 a.m, requesting that she met him at the Abraka park.
She, however, replied the caller that she was going to the market with her elder sister.

Miss Sunday added that on their way out of their residence located along Winners Road, a young man, whom she had never seen before (whom she believed was the same person that called her sister earlier), boarded a motorcycle that stopped at the junction and approached them.

A short conversation ensued between them and her late sister, Favour, joined him on the bike and they rode off, even as she called after her to return early.

Unfortunately, it was the shocking news of her sister, dead and tied with ropes in a sack, that reached her the following day.

When reached for confirmation, the Delta State Police Commissioner, Mr Adeyinka Adeleke, explained that what had been discovered so far revealed that the killing of the victim was more of a murder case and not ritual killing.

The police boss also revealed that the suspected killer, who is believed to be Favour’s boyfriend, has since been on the run, adding that the state police command was already on his trial.

The Zone XI Police Command in Osogbo on Thursday said it arrested a 30-year-old suspected fake medical doctor, Rafiu Naheem, in Inisa, Odo Otin Local Government Area of Osun State.

According to a statement by the command’s Spokesperson, SP Adekunle Ajisebutu, the suspect was arrested by detectives attached to the Criminal Investigation Department of the Zone XI Police Command.

Ajisebutu said the suspect, a school certificate holder, without a formal training, had been operating an unregistered clinic in a one-bedroom mud apartment, treating unsuspecting patients of different ailments.

“Intelligence revealed that the suspect had been placing patients on admission, and had been procuring abortions and handling very complex medical conditions, which he lacks professional expertise to handle.

“He was thereby endangering the precious lives of innocent people who patronised him,” he said.

He said the suspect confessed to the crime but blamed his action on joblessness, adding that the suspect also revealed that although he had no certificate, he learned auxiliary nursing at a yet-to-be-identified private hospital.

“When a search was conducted in his illegal ‘clinic’ located in a filthy environment at Inisa area, Odo Otin Local Government Area of Osun State, the following items were recovered: stethoscope, sphygmomanometer (blood pressure gauge), drips, injection and syringe.

“Others are: circumcision set, HCG Pregnancy Rapid Test (urine) Accurate, scalpel and other theater instruments, drips, thermometer, analgesic and assorted drugs,” he said

While appreciating strategic partners who gave the hint that led to the arrest of the suspect, the AIG Zone XI, Mr Adeleye Oyebade, urged members of the public to be wary of quacks masquerading as medical doctors to save themselves from avoidable death.

He said that the suspect would be arraigned in court immediately.

Rochas Okorocha Set To Join PDP, Says APC Has Marginalized Him

[Image: images%25255B1%25255D%25255B24%25255D.jpg]
According to impeccable information available to Akelicious, the immediate past governor of Imo State, Owelle Rochas Okorocha is making secret moves to join Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

The reliable source, who confided in this Newspaper said however, the obstacles to the realization of this plot by Okorocha are the All Progressive Congress APC, the Tribunal case he has against the Imo State Governor, Emeka Ihedioha, via his son inlaw, Uche Nwosu, and EFCC.

Akelicious  sources said that Okorocha presently is just “hanging” in APC because he has no alternative, while his Body and Soul is in PDP.
Akelicious learnt that as far as matters are concerned, Okorocha has been humiliated and politically drained by APC, and knows that he cannot make any political breakthrough under the APC platform again.
However, due to how things are shaping now, moving to PDP by Okorocha will just be like handing his enemies an opportunity to strike, and therefore ready to endure the torrent condition he has found himself in APC until when the time is ripe for him to make a move.

Akelicious  was told that Okorocha is tired of the cabal in APC that is bent on check-mating his moves in the party, which is to make sure that he does not expand his political horizon more than what is it presently against 2023 Presidential Permutations.
But unfortunately, we learnt, should Okorocha make a move to join PDP, the APC cabal against him will ignite his case before EFCC, and could even “escalate the matter out of hand”.

On the other way round, PDP is said not to be too excited to have Okorocha in their midst again following his type of politics which seems exclusive than expanding.

Meanwhile, many who heard that Okorocha is plotting to return to PDP are not happy as they want the Ex-Governor to face his fate before the various Committees charged by Ihedioha to look into the huge looting that took place in Imo between 2011 and 2019 Okorocha was the Chief Executive of the State.

A majority of Imo people believed that Okorocha did not handle the State affairs transparently, and ruled with only his family and friends who are alleged to have questions to answer.

As it stands now, it seems the former Governor is between the devil and deep blue sea, as he does not know where to run to as his preferred destination is not ready to accommodate him and yet cannot escape from his present political abode, even as he is not happy inhabiting there.

Identical twins raised by different parents after they were swapped in hospital reunite as DNA test confirms their relationship

Twin sisters, Sharon Mathius and Melon Lutenyo are biological identical twins but they never knew the other existed until this year.

Sharon Mathius, Melon Lutenyo and Mevis Imbaya were born within 24 hours in the same hospital in 1999. At birth, one of the twin was swapped with the third girl born to a different couple.

The twins ended up being raised by different parents Until 2018, when they found themselves. Then a DNA test proved they are biological twins.

Sharon and Melon met in April 2018 on social media. At first, they mistook each other for online identity frauds, Daily Nation reports.

They were both suspicious of their striking resemblance but after the online altercation they stopped communicating with each other completely.

The two finally met in December 2018 at a bus stop in Kakamega town. This was prompted by constant mention by their teachers and schoolmates about their resemblance. Sharon had participated in a high school music festival where the Melon’s school had also participated.

Sharon’s teachers and classmates were puzzled when they saw someone that resembled Melon at the festival even though she was not participating. Melon’s classmates took a photo of Melon which they later showed to Sharon. Out of curiosity, the twins contacted each other during school holidays.

Soon, their communication became frequent to the extent that they introduced each other to their parents.

In April 2019, both families resorted to solve the mystery by seeking professional help. Lancet Kenya then offered to carry out a DNA test at subsidised cost.

The DNA tests conducted by Lancet Kenya was released on Saturday. It showed that Sharon Mathius and Melon Lutenyo shared identical DNA profiles, with 23 allelic loci tested showing 100 per cent perfect match which is consistent with the Sharon and Melon being biologically identical twins.

The test proved that Ms Rosemary Khaveleli Onyango, who raised Melon and Mevis, is the biological mother of Sharon and Melon while Mevis Imbaya, who was raised as Melon's twin is the biological child of Ms Angeline Omina and Mr Wilson Lutah Maruti who raised Sharon.

The DNA report stated that, "Ms Rosemary Khaveleli Onyango could not be excluded as the biological mother of the twins who have compatible obligatory maternal allelic profile with a 99.999 per cent probability."

The report also excluded Ms Onyango from being the biological mother of Mevis Imbaya with 12 out of 23 loci tested showing a mismatch. (Three or more mismatches are considered grounds of exclusion of paternity).

The tests also showed that Mevis Imbaya exhibited a compatible obligatory maternal and paternal allelic profile with those of Ms Angeline Omina and Mr Wilson Lutah Maruti respectively. The report released by Dr Ahmed Kalebi, CEO Lancet Group of Laboratories also showed that the probability of Mevis being Ms Omina's daughter was 99.999 per cent.

Ms Onyango, who gave birth to the identical twins, is said to have gone to Kakamega Hospital while pregnant on August 15, 1999. She expected to deliver triplets but when she regained consciousness after delivery through a caesarean section, she was informed that she had given birth to twins.

The twins were placed in an incubator for a week due to low birth weight. She said that had been in doubt since her supposed twin daughters Melon and Melvin did not turn out identical.

EFCC re-arraigns American for allegedly defrauding three Nigerians of $565,000 in epic visa scam

EFCC on Thursday re-arraigned an American, Marco Ramirez, for allegedly defrauding three Nigerians of $565,000.

The anti graft agency said it charged Ramirez before a judge, Mojisola Dada, on an amended 12-count charge of conspiracy and obtaining under false pretence. Ramirez was arraigned alongside his companies – USA Now LLC; Eagle Ford Instalodge Group LP and USA Now Capital Group.

The American and his companies were previously arraigned on June 22, 2017, before another judge, Josephine Oyefeso, on a 16-count charge but was granted bail in the sum of $25,000. His case file was later transferred while he was subsequently re-arraigned before Judge Dada.
The EFCC said that the accused committed the offences between February 2013 and August 2013 in Lagos Ramirez is alleged to have defrauded Godson Echejue, Abubakar Umar and Olukayode Sodimu of their money promising them that he would invest this under the Citizenship and Immigration Services Employment-Based Fifth Preference (EB-5).  He was also arraigned in a separate court before Peter Affen of the Federal Capital Territory High Court, sitting in Maitama on April 18, 2016, for defrauding two Nigerians Ejikeme Mgbemena and Frank Egbon of $2.3m after he promised to provide American Green Card for members of their families below 18 years.

According to the agency, his offences contravene Section 1 (3) of the Advance Fee Fraud and Other Fraud Related Offences Act, No. 14 of 2006. Court Session  Mr Ramirez’s counsel, Ademola Adefolaju, urged the court to allow his client continue with the bail terms earlier granted to him by Judge Oyefeso.

Dada asked the defendant if he had complied with the bail terms. Mr Adefolaju confirmed that his client had fully complied and had been going to the EFCC’s office as directed by the court. “Having not breached the bail terms granted by my brother judge, the defendant is hereby allowed to continue with the terms,” the judge ruled.  The matter was adjourned till October 7, 8, 9 and 10 for trial.

Nepotism Is Corruption, Obasanjo Tells Presidency
User Avatar Forum: News

Quote:• Alleges poor consultation on AfCFTA, fiscal indiscipline
• Nigeria’s renegotiation delaying ratification, says official
• Russia seeks more commitment to raise deals above $20b

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has lamented that nepotism in Nigeria is obstructing the fight against corruption. In what seemed like reporting the country’s leadership to the world, the elder statesman, before a gathering of investors at the ongoing yearly meeting of the African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank) in Moscow, accused the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari of fiscal indiscipline and bias in the fight against corruption.

He described corruption and development as strange bed fellows, warning that people in authority would remain deluded as long as their definition of corruption is when money, goods and services are involved.

“Nepotism is a form of corruption and condoning what is bad is a height of corruption. Lack of fiscal discipline is corruption. So, corruption and development cannot meet. You must eschew corruption to make sure that you make significant progress.

“Fighting corruption is not a matter of do it today and tomorrow you are absent. It must be consistently fought. There must not be sacred cows, and it must be comprehensive and inclusive,” he said. The Buhari administration has repeatedly come under criticism for allegedly favouring a section of the country on appointments and targeting the opposition in its campaign against graft.

The government’s alleged shoddy consultation was also blamed for the delay in the ratification of the African Continental Free Trade and Agreement (AfCFTA), acclaimed the largest free trade agreement in the world. Obasanjo told investors that while there is no confusion on what the deal is, private sector operators became disillusioned over the government’s alleged inaction and poor consultations after it had taken the lead in design and execution.

He expressed hope that Nigeria would sign the deal before the July 7 launch in Niamey.“Nigeria will not be absent at the launch of the AfCFTA. But I see no reason why Nigeria can be present at the launch when it has not signed the agreement. It is out of place. Eritrea and even Niger and Benin who are our neighbours have signed, and Nigeria is counting itself out.

“If you heard the statement of the permanent secretary in the Ministry of Trade today, there is nothing more beautiful than that, but he is not a policy maker, he is a policy executor.

“He will have to go home and tell the policymakers that he made the right statement, so it’s now their turn for action. I hope that when he gets home and says it’s time for right action, they will follow through,” he said.

But Gabriel Aduda, Permanent Secretary (Political and Economic Affairs) at the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, said the delay was not indicative of government’s doubt on the initiative, but the consequence of ongoing renegotiations. He explained that Nigeria wants to ensure that some protective steps are put in place, lest the country becomes a dumping ground.

“With time, Nigeria is going to sign. But we have to do what China did, even with the world trade agreement – they gave a condition. And that is what we are going to do. You do not expect a country like Nigeria to be given the same size of cake with a country like The Gambia, even though we are all in Africa.

“You cannot just go ahead and enter into an agreement with a neighbouring nation without looking at who is standing behind that nation. How are you going to protect yourself?

“Though we need a free and fair deal, how also do we protect ourselves to ensure that we do not just become a dumping ground? These are some of the issues we are looking at, at the moment. Absolutely, we are coming back to the table to say, “this is what we want,” Aduda said.

Earlier, Sergey Lavrov, Russia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, expressed his country’s willingness to contribute more to the development of the African continent, disclosing that over $20 billion worth of investments was done in Africa in 2018.

“Russia is building a long-term relationship with Africa and has become a shareholder in Afreximbank. To give an additional impetus to all our cooperation, including commercial and economic, it was decided to jointly organise the first Russia-Africa summit in October 2019 in Sochi.

“We are waiting for African Heads of State and Government, leaders of the African Union and other major sub-regional organisations to key into our partnership and hope that Afreximbank will contribute to the substantial content of the economic part of the programme, which seems very solid,” he said.

IRI, NDI, EU Reports: I’m Embarrassed To Be Nigerian -ozekhome
User Avatar Forum: General Discussion
Posted by: Edoman - 06-21-2019, 10:15 AM - No Replies

A Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Chief Mike Ozekhome, has described the just released report on the last presidential and National Assembly elections by the EU Observer Group, The International Republican Institute and the National Democratic Institute, as a damning case of deep-seated corruption in Nigeria.

Ozekhome, who said he was embarrassed to be a Nigerian, alleged that corruption has not only eaten deep into just the electoral process, but also into the entire moral fabric of the society.

“Cancerous and leprous corruption, especially within government circles and among those opportunistic few who control the levers of power and means of production and distribution of scarce national resources, has completely eroded our national ethos and cherished moral values and elevated mediocrity and hypocrisy to high heavens.”

The human rights activist said the electoral process has been horrifically bastardised, monetised, militarised and privatised by the rulers, elite and their prostituting collaborators and allies, both local and international, who see politics as a full time profession and a ‘do-or-die’ and ‘winners-take-all’ occupation.

“The 2019 elections were probably the worst in the electoral history of Nigeria, killing more people and causing more incalculable casualties than any election in Nigerian history,” he claimed.

He alleged that aside the uncontrolled and uncontrollable activities of the Boko Haram insurgents and rampaging herdsmen and the genocidal killings recorded during the three-year Nigerian-Biafran civil war progrom, no event has recorded more mindless cold-blooded killings on Nigeria as did the last elections.

“The Nigerian Situation Room, leading local election observers and monitoring groups, also passed the same damning verdict over the last presidential election that suffered acute lack of integrity, transparency, credibility fairness, freedom and acceptability. The incumbent government was so desperate to win at all costs since it had no credible or viable record of performance to rely on that it threw caution to the wind and militarised the entire elections to its advantage.”

RHAPSODY OF REALITIES

FRIDAY, 21ST JUNE.

SEE WITH GOD’S LIGHT

Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path (Psalm 119:105)

God’s Word is the true Light that lights every man that comes into the world (John 1:9); it’s the compass with which you navigate your way successfully through life. Life is filled with chances and choices; and in making decisions you need proper guidance, which only God’s Word can provide.

The Bible says, “That which makes manifest is light” (Ephesians 5:13); meaning that light illuminates. Hebrews 4:12-13, apart from highlighting the power and efficacy of God’s Word, also reveals its functionality as light. Part of it says, “…Neither is there any creature that is not manifest in his sight: but all things are naked and opened unto the eyes of him with whom we have to do.”

The Word of God sees and knows everything; it touches every subject in life and discerns the thoughts and intents of the heart. When you study the Word, you receive much more than inspiration; you receive divine light, insight, and wisdom to deal excellently in life.

No one can know what’s true or real except through the light of God’s Word, for the Word is truth (John 17:17), and truth means reality. If, today, there seems to be darkness in any area of your life, perhaps in your family, health, academics or business, use the true light, God’s Word. The solution to darkness is light. If the true Light (God’s Word) dwells in you richly, as admonished in Colossians 3:16, fear, failure, lack, sickness and all other results of darkness won’t have any place in you.

See with God’s light. See from the perspective of His Word. Interpret situations, circumstances and the conditions of your life from the standpoint of the Word. His light shows that greater is He that is in you than he that is in the world. His light shows that you’re prosperous and have been brought into a wealthy place. His light shows that divine health is your present-hour possession and right in Christ.

CONFESSION

I know, and walk in my inheritance in Christ Jesus because I live and see from God’s perspective. His Word is my light, and that’s the light in which I live. I’m walking in the path of God’s destiny for my life, because I walk in the light, as He is in the light. Hallelujah!

FURTHER STUDY

John 8:12 Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.

Proverbs 6:23 For the commandment [is] a lamp; and the law [is] light; and reproofs of instruction [are] the way of life.

Hebrews 4:12-13 For the word of God [is] quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and [is] a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. Neither is there any creature that is not manifest in his sight: but all things [are] naked and opened unto the eyes of him with whom we have to do.

#TALKINGSESSION

21ST JUNE.

KINDLY SAY THESE WORDS OUT LOUD

Dear Heavenly Father, I thank You for receiving my worship, praise and thanksgiving, sanctifying them by Your Spirit. You’re magnified in my life, and Your glory has increased in my life. Thank You for an outstanding first half of the year of lights, and for Your grace that is piloting me into the great future You have for me.

I am strong and courageous! I see glory, victory, success and triumph all around me. I see with the eyes of the Spirit, through the Word, my glorious heritage in Christ. My heart greatly rejoices, for in Christ I see my salvation, strength, courage, victory, and righteousness, in Jesus’ Name. Amen!

God bless you

Real Housewives of Atlanta star, Porsha Williams and her fiancé of 8 months, Dennis McKinley have split just three months after welcoming their daughter, Pilar Jhena.

A  family member close to the couple confirmed the split to Us Weekly, and added, “There is a tiny, tiny, tiny chance they would get back together, [but] likely no.”

News of their split first started when Williams, 37, unfollowed McKinley on Instagram in May. At that time, rumors began to circulate that he had cheated on her.

Despite the rumors, Porsha did re-follow him and Dennis released a statement, refuting the rumors.

“These false and slanderous allegations against me are made solely to damage my reputation, jeopardize my ongoing businesses, and negatively impact my family,” Dennis told E!.

Porsha welcomed the couple’s first child, daughter Pilar Jhena on March 22.

Photo: I needed a child to call me mother after seven years of marriage - Woman who stole 3-day-old baby in Plateau Specialist Hospital confesses

The 32-year-old woman, who stole a three-day-old baby in Plateau Specialist Hospital, Jos said she was driven into committing the crime by desire to have a child, who would call her mother after seven years of marriage.

Mrs. Leritshimwa Diyal, a student of College of Health Technology, Zawan, in Plateau, made the confession while speaking with newsmen when she was paraded by the Plateau Police Command on Thursday in Jos.

Recall that the baby belonging to one Mrs. Mary Chukwuebuka was stolen three days after birth at the Plateau Specialist Hospital. The baby has since been handed over to the biological parents. Read  here

Diyal, before her arrest, had claimed that she gave birth at a kidnappers’ den. She also claimed that she registered for antenatal care at the Jos University Teaching Hospital (JUTH).

“I have been married for over seven years without a child; the desire to have one pushed me into stealing another woman’s child. My husband and I have sought for medical attention to ascertain the reason for our childlessness, but to no avail. I have contacted many orphanages to adopt a child, but none granted me the opportunity, that is why I resorted to stealing. I regret this desperation. I wasn’t thinking straight when I stole the baby. I plead that justice be tempered with mercy,” she pleaded.

Diyal also told journalists that she carried out the act without the knowledge of her husband.

Briefing newsmen, the Plateau State Commissioner of Police,  Isaac Akinmoyede, attributed the timely arrest of Diyal to the “painstaking and diligent investigation” by his officers and men.

He explained that Diyal perfected her plans and leveraged on her deep knowledge of the terrain of the hospital, where she once undertook her industrial attachment, to steal the baby.

Akinmoyede said that she had faked her kidnap story thinking it would give her a strong alibi to have the baby, but that when she was confronted with realities, she confessed to stealing the baby.

“Currently, the command is investigating her claim that she committed the crime alone,” Akinmoyede said, stressing that the case would be charged to court immediately the investigation was concluded.

We‘ll resist Fulani vigilantes in Igboland - Ohanaeze tells Miyetti Allah

To combat insecurity, the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria, MACBAN, has called for establishment of Fulani Youth Vigilante body in the South-East to complement those in their host communities’ and other constituted security apparatus in the zone.

The cattle breeders made the request just as the South-East governors told them that nobody in the zone was against cattle rearing but that it was paramount for everyone to understand that there are rules of engagement in every relationship, including that of herders and farmers.

President-General of apex Igbo socio-cultural organisation, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Chief John Nnia Nwodo said the group would resist Fulani vigilantes in Igboland, while the pan-Yoruba socio-political organisation, Afenifere, described the proposal as a provocative agenda.

Reacting to MACBAN’s call, Ohanaeze Ndigbo leader, Chief Nnia Nwodo, said Ndigbo will resist the proposal for the establishment of Fulani Youths Vigilante in Igboland. Accusing the herdsmen of violating Igbo women in their farms, among other crimes, Nwodo noted that if such request was granted the herdsmen, it will spell doom for Igboland. Nwodo said:

Quote:“Ohanaeze vehemently opposes any attempt by Miyetti Allah to establish any form of vigilante group in Igboland. These are people who have ravaged our farms, raped our women and slaughtered their husbands. As at today, they technically enjoy immunity from arrest and prosecution. They freely display AK-47 rifles not permitted to be used by civilians.
“Extending this measure to them will turn them into an army of occupation and invite unavoidable confrontations with our youths. We will resist such a policy with every might available to us.”

Bosede Oguntade: Prophet Dotun Ogunlade ‘Arole Jesu’ Kills Housewife In Oyo
User Avatar Forum: Other Stories
Posted by: Edoman - 06-20-2019, 10:00 PM - No Replies

Quote:The long arm of the Oyo state Police Command has apprehended a prophet of Cherubim and Seraphim who allegedly lured and slaughtered a 25-year-old house wife, Bosede Oguntade for money rituals, following their friendship on Facebook.

The housewife from Ilorin, was strangulated to death by the prophet, Dotun Ogunlade popularly called ‘Arole Jesu’ in Igboora area of Oyo State, the police said.

The victim, Bosede who hailed from Ilorin in Kwara State was lured to Igboora in Oyo State with a view to providing solution to her economic and marital problems by the spiritualist.

The Commissioner of Police in Oyo State, Mr. Shina Olukolu who led a team of policemen from the state command to the location where the victim was buried said the head and arms of the victim were cut-off before she was buried.

Explaining how the victim was killed, the police boss said on the arrival of the woman in Igboora, the fake prophet told her to first solve the problem of fatigue occasioned by the stress of her trip from Ilorin to Igboora by taking sleeping drugs.

He said she was allegedly injected with overdose sleeping drug and subsequently over powered, strangulated and killed.

He further said her head and arms were thereafter taken for rituals while the remains of her corpse were buried in a shallow grave, at Ogboja area of Igbo-Ora.

Olukolu added that based on credible information and diligent investigation, the police in Igbo-Ora were able to smash and arrest the syndicate.

“Further investigation revealed that parts of her body were allegedly crushed into powder for rituals to become powerful and rich. Two knives used to kill and cut her body parts, a white cloth bag containing substance inside a gourd where the alleged powder parts were kept and a bottle of Stallion Schnapps were also recovered.”

Olukolu however warned people to collaborate with police by giving timely and useful information to enable them to serve the community better.

“The police will continue with their resolute determination to stamp out crimes and criminality in the society, members of the public should be careful in having absolute trust in individuals or groups who are strangers, especially those they met on social media or those who claimed to possess the power of clairvoyance or ability to combat and treat successfully terminal diseases or possessed solutions to social and marital challenges,” he said.

Speaking with journalists, the suspect said he gained experience from his former boss who happened to be a prophet of Cherubim and Seraphim.

He said: “Me and the woman have been chatting on Facebook since January, this year. I later invited her to Igbo Ora.

“Meanwhile, Mutiu, a friend had already told me about his challenges in life. He told me he was ready for money rituals. So, I decided to use the woman for money for him.

“When the woman later arrived from Ilorin, I went to pick her to Igbo-Ora, from Iseyin. On her arrival at my house, on 31st of May, this year, I gave her sleeping drugs after she complained about pains in her body, she slept off and I cut off her head, and arms. Her head was later burnt to ashes for money rituals,” he confessed .

Teacher accused of recording female students undressing in school, had 3,500 videos saved

A Virginia drama teacher already in jail for child-pornography charges has been accused of recording multiple female students undress in school.

Police investigating accusations against Raphael Schklowsky, the former theater director at Herndon High School, combed through 3,500 videos and uncovered the filming inside the school, Maj. Ed O'Carrollsaid. At least 10 victims are identifiable in the videos, and police have positively identified nine of those victims, but they said there are dozens of victims whose faces can't be seen in the videos.

"This is a huge, disappointing development, one that none of my detectives, the Fairfax County Police Department, the Fairfax County Public Schools, wanted to be as part of the outcome," O'Carroll said.

Schklowsky hid cameras in rooms throughout the school to get video and photos of students undressing from May 2017 through June 2018, police said.

“When you drop your kids off at school — I have three in high school myself — you expect it to be a safe environment,” O’Carroll said.

“This offender let us down, and he’ll be held accountable for that,” he added.

According to NBC Washington, Schklowsky previously was charged with 20 felony counts of possession of child pornography and one felony account of unlawful filming and held without bond. New charges are coming.

Police first arrested Schklowsky in early April. They said he hid cameras in the au pair’s room in the Reston home where he lives with his wife and two children.

The au pair sent police a photo, and they went to the house with a search warrant.

Detectives said they found one of the recording devices inside an air vent in the au pair’s bedroom. They seized a long list of electronics, including something called a smoke detector camera.

Police said the investigation into the recording of female students
is still ongoing.

Ahmad Lawan Withdraws Festus Adedayo's Appointment As Media Aide
User Avatar Forum: General Discussion
Posted by: Edoman - 06-20-2019, 07:45 PM - No Replies

Quote:Dr Festus Adedayo, who was appointed Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to President of the Senate on Tuesday, has been dropped.

A statement from Office of President of the Senate on Thursday in Abuja, said that it reviewed the appointment of Adedayo and rescinded its earlier decision on it.

The statement was signed by Mohammed Isa, Special Assistant to the Senate President on Media and Publicity.

It said “the Office of the President of the Senate has reviewed the appointment of Mr Festus Adedayo as Special Adviser, Media and Publicity to the President of the Senate and decided to rescind its decision on the appointment.

“The office wishes Mr Adedayo the best in his future endeavours.’’

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the dropping of Adedayo may not be unconnected with pressure on the Senate leadership to do so following mounting criticisms from All Progressives Congress (APC) stakeholders over the appointment.

A reliable source close to President of the Senate’s office told NAN that the decision to drop Adedayo was reached on Wednesday night in a meeting by key officers of the Red Chamber.
The meeting was said to have held in the residence of President of the Senate, Mr Ahmad Lawan, who chaired the session.

No sooner was the appointment of Adedayo, a PhD holder in Political Communication, was announced by than outcry and criticisms started pouring in, saying he was unsuitable for the position.

The outcry which was loud, especially on social media and was championed by Buhari Media Organisation (BMO) and some members of All Progressives Congress (APC), tagged Adedayo “anti-Buhari media personality’’.

To press the matter home, the groups resorted to re-broadcasting of anti-government social media posts linked to Adedayo.

NAN confirmed that Office of the Senate President has begun the process of finding a replacement for him.

A similar outcry is also trailing the re-appointment of four other media aides announced by Lawan to serve him. The aides also served his predecessor, Sen. Bukola Saraki.

The aides include Mr Mohammed Isa, Special Assistant on Media and Publicity; Olu Onemola, Special Assistant on New Media and Tope Olowoeye, Senior Legislative Aide on Media and Publicity (Photography).

NAN, however, learnt that Lawan stood his ground on the aides, saying he would retain them.

“The Senate concluded last night that the SA Media should be relieved of his appointment instantly owing to public outcry.

“But, the Senate President is retaining all the other media aides already announced, against all pressures.

“He is already getting some recommendations for replacement of Adedayo from media consultants, subject to background checks,” the source said.

Adedayo was yet to assume office before the current development. (NAN)

Lagos State is really battling for its life in terms of trucks and containers in the state. Last week, it was reported that a 20ft container fell on some cars at Apapa where they cause serious damages to both the cars and the owners. Just this week, another container has fallen on a Danfo Bus at Iyana Iba. Though it was reported that no casualties as the bus was empty when the incident occurred.

Men of the LASTMA were already on the ground to control traffic and to ensure a smooth flow for drivers.

Even though there was a presidential order to get rid of these trucks off the road, the order has been effective save for some parts in Apapa and Tincan Port where they are yet to fully comply.

These are images from the scene.

A former Political Adviser to former Governor Adams Oshiomhole, Mr. Charles Idahosa, has explained why Oshiomhole’s should be blamed for imbroglio that characterised the inauguration of the 7th Edo State House of Assembly.

Idahosa said Oshiomhole’s continued silence in the alleged rift with Governor Godwin Obaseki was responsible for some lawmakers-elect to dare the State Working Committee of the APC.

Speaking in a chat with newsmen, Idahosa said Governor Obaseki had spoken out that there was no rift with Oshiomhole but that the refusal of Oshiomhole to speak out meant consent to activities of the Edo Peoples Movement, a group whose aim is to stop Governor Obaseki from getting a second term ticket.

He described the situation as a tragic-comedy where the people are happy with Governor Obaseki but those that brought him to power want Obaseki out of power

Buhari should sack this incompetent man – PDP, CUPP react to Buratai’s statement against soldiers
B[Image: Tukur-Buratai.jpg?resize=756%2C425&ssl=1]

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the Coalition of United Political Parties (PDP) has lashed out at the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Tukur Buratai, for blaming “inadequate commitment of troops on the front line of the insurgency war” for the resurgence of Boko Haram attacks.
Buratai had on Tuesday said some soldiers involved in the counter-insurgency war are losing their commitment, thus causing the military setbacks in the war against Boko Haram.

He had said, “It is unfortunate, but the truth is that almost every setback the Nigerian Army has had in our operations in recent times can be traced to insufficient willingness to perform assigned tasks or simply insufficient commitment to a common national and military course by those at the frontlines.”

But speaking to newsmen on Wednesday, the PDP Deputy National Publicity Secretary, Mr Diran Odeyemi, said it was worrisome that after budgeting huge sum of money to tackle Boko Haram and kidnapping, insecurity was still high in the country.

He said, “The leadership of these security outfits need to be questioned…If the head of Daura community could be kidnapped, who else is safe in this country? We are not safe. The United Kingdom just gave a directive to its nationals that Nigeria is not safe for them to visit. This is very unfortunate. We call on Buhari to declare a state of emergency in security and act fast.

“The service chiefs should be sacked with immediate effect. They deserve to be sacked. He should sack all of them.”
On his part, the spokesman of CUPP, Mr Imo Ugochinyere, called for the sack of the security chiefs, adding that Buhari should tell Nigerians the truth about his alleged inability to address the security challenges of the country.

He said, “You can see the Chief of Army Staff telling us that the morale of some of the troops is low… First of all, the President should sack those incompetent people who are heading the security agencies.

“These people have been heading these agencies for the last three or four years. The first responsibility of any government is the security and welfare of the citizens. Let him sack them first and then declare a state of emergency. Everything is not politics. Tell the nation the truth that this war, you are not winning,” he added.

Three secondary school students drown in Akwa Ibom beach

Three secondary school students, two boys and one girl, drowned in Ibeno beach at Mkpanak community, Ibeno Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State on Saturday.

The victims said to be from Upenekang community in Ibeno Local Government Area, were students of Ibeno Grammar School.

An eyewitness, Mr. Asuquo Isangdighe, a photographer, said the victims had engaged in a road walk after which they dived into the river to have their bath.

Task Force Chairman of the beach Mr Samuel Christopher, who confirmed the incident said the students were returning from a cross country exercise

"The students that drowned were part of a team of students who went on road walk in the early hours of the morning. While some of them went home, others went to the beach to swim because I saw them with flags. I suspect the victims entered the water hoping they were safe. Unfortunately, even when you know how to swim, the water is not safe, especially when you venture into the dangerous spots in the water and by the beach. The high tide brought back the corpse of the girl about three hours later; while those of the two boys were returned on Sunday. The corpses have been buried by the water side by the families of the deceased according to tradition.”

Mr. David Akpakop, an indigene of Mkpanak, said that the incident was unfortunate and a sad development for the community. He, however, said people do not want to learn, wondering why the victims would endanger their lives by swimming in the beach.

“For now, the beach is not fit for swimming and on no circumstances should anybody swim,’’ he said.

He urged the local council chairman to collaborate with the state government to set up a task force to stop people from swimming at the beach. He also advised the state to set up a rescue team to save people from drowning at the beach.

The Ibeno Beach Management Chairman, Mr. Peter Akpan, expressed displeasure at the incident, saying he was not around when the incident happened.

“We don’t want this to happen to us again. We want government to be to come to our aid and invest in the beach to make it a proper tourist centre.

On what is being done to curb the incessant incidence of deaths at the beach, Akpan said:
“We have signboards at the entrance of the beach and in the beach, which reads that Ibeno beach is not safe for swimming. We have advocated that Ibeno beach is an ocean that is not fit for swimming,”

He also called on state government, stakeholders, spirited individuals, to provide life jackets in the beach in order to prevent people from drowning.

When contacted, the Akwa Ibom Police Public Relations Officer, SP Odiko MacDon, said he has not been informed about the incident. He however promised to confirm the incident as soon as he is briefed.

NAFDAC Bans Sniper Insecticide In Open Markets, Supermarkets

NAFDAC bans the sale of Sniper Insecticides in open market and supermarkets.

The National Food, Drug Administration Control (NAFDAC) has ordered agro-dealers to withdraw popular agricultural pesticide, Sniper, from open markets and supermarkets, to reduce its use for suicide across the country.

The federal government yesterday placed a restriction on the sale and use of the fatal agro-chemical product, Sniper.

The development was made public by NAFDAC’s director, Veterinary Medicine and Allied Products Directorate, Dr Bukar Usman, at the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA), Ibadan on Wednesday, June 19, Leadership reports.

Since Sniper hits the Nigerian market, it has become the favourite of most Nigerians, especially the poor for killing mosquitoes and other pests. Similarly, the product has also been abused by many as they use it to commit suicide.

10 Patients Go Blind After Injection In A Kaduna Hospital
User Avatar Forum: News
Posted by: Edoman - 06-20-2019, 02:25 PM - No Replies

An enquiry into the cause of total blindness in 10 patients in a Kaduna eye centre.
Medical experts at a tertiary health institution in Kaduna State are now working round the clock to unveil the circumstances leading to the total blindness of 10 out-patients after they were injected with a drug the same day.
The victims, who are regular patients of the National Eye Centre, Kaduna became totally blind the same day they received injections for eye-related problems.

Once the incident happened, the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) intervened and took the drug for a test. The agency’s findings are being awaited.

Shocked by the development, the hospital management recalled all the affected patients and placed them on free treatment and feeding.

LEADERSHIP Weekend gathered that despite the efforts of the hospital management, none of the patients is yet to regain his or her sight.

A source said that when the incident occurred, NAFDAC went to the hospital within 48 hours and took a sample of the drug that was administered on the male and female patients including the one that was not opened for investigation and analysis.

The sad incident reportedly took place in May this year.

Some of the victims, who narrated their experiences to LEADERSHIP Weekend, said they were still in shock on how they suddenly became blind after taking the injection.

They said that they were yet to get satisfactory explanations on the cause(s) of their blindness the same day after they were injected with a drug in the same bottle.

The management of the hospital said they were not leaving any stone unturned to ensure that the victims regain their sight.

The hospital management said they have embarked on a thorough investigation to unravel the circumstances that led to the unfortunate incident.

The chief medical director (CMD), Dr. Mahmoud Alhassan, said that the hospital had been injecting other patients with the same drug without any problem.

The injection they were given is the same drug we use to give to patients to reduce bleeding in the eye, especially for diabetics and other patients.

He said: “Interestingly, this is the second, third and last time some of them are taking this particular drug and these reactions just took place.

“The drug is made by Russians. One of the patients complained that her vision had gone down so she came and we thought it was abnormal reactions; we treated it as an infection. We took actions and gave them drugs.

“We still have to clean the eyes, their vision will come back, the CMD said.

Alhassan, who confirmed that NAFDAC came to the hospital within 48 hours of the incident and took samples of the drug, said that it included the used and the unused drugs.

“The point is that these eyes are severely affected eyes. Their vision is poor and we are trying to help them. We have been talking to them and doing our best but it might take two to three months to achieve the desired results because eyes heal gradually. They will be able to get them back,” he said.

“In fact, two of them are very happy now because their situation is now better than it was before. Aside the medical efforts we are making, we are also carrying out necessary investigation, we are not happy with the situation and we will address it accordingly,” he said.

Meanwhile, the patients who until the sad occurrence were out-patients and received same injection at one point or the other without any implications, said that they were yet to recover from the shock.
They questioned the rationale behind the incident as they admitted that they had been receiving the injection but now with no satisfactory explanation as to the cause of the blindness to all of them that were injected the same day.

What could be the cause of this total blindness? Could the drug be expired, adulterated or contaminated? Is it the right drug or it was wrongly labelled by the manufacturers. The cause of this incidence must be investigated by the NAFDAC and report released to the public.

Hammed was arraigned on a two-count charge of stealing and murder before Justice Mojisola Dada of an Ikeja Special Offences Court, Lagos.

The driver was alleged to have stolen N950,000 and $117 from his employer’s bedroom. While attempting to escape, Hammed strangled Jolasun.

German Man Kills Wife Through 48-Hour Marathon Sex During Honeymoon (Photos)

Quote:Husband killed his wife 'when 48-hour bondage sex session' during their 'honeymoon period' in Germany left her with a perforated bowel

*Ralph Jankus and wife Christel took part in a 48-hour sex session after wedding
*Days later, Christel died after suffering a perforated bowel 'following insertion'
*Jankus, 52, faces manslaughter charges over the death of his new wife, 49

A German man is in court facing manslaughter charges for killing his new wife in a 48-hour BDSM sex session just days after they walked down the aisle together.

Ralph Jankus, 52, and his wife Christel, 49, took part in a 48-hour sex session for their nuptials, he claims.

New bride Christel suffered severe internal injuries allegedly after a sharp object was inserted into her.

When emergency services were called four days later, they were unable to save Christel.

Self-confessed sadomasochist Jankus faces manslaughter charges at the court in Krefeld, a city in North Rhine-Westphalia, in western Germany.

He is being prosecuted for failing to call for help, allegedly leaving her injured for four days. He claims he was not aware his wife was seriously ill.

The public prosecutor believes that Jankus must have been aware of how unwell his wife was and that her life was in danger.

When questioned, he told police the sex had been consensual and that he had been taking part in sadomasochism sessions for the past thirty years.

He told police: 'It was our honeymoon period.'

He added that he loved his wife dearly, that the sex had been consensual and that instead of going on honeymoon, they had enjoyed a steamy sex session lasting days.

Jankus has reportedly admitted that his wife had previously complained about discomfort, after the sex session, and had been to see an internal medicine specialist who had carried out a colonoscopy, but nothing had been found to be wrong with her.

Forensic medicine specialists came to the conclusion that the woman must have had some sort of barbed hook inserted into her and when it was removed this caused a perforated bowel.

The victim's 30-year-old son, who has not been named, claimed his mother had been abused as a child and was mentally unstable.

He added that his mother was dominated by her husband and had started wearing clothes that covered her up well.

RHAPSODY OF REALITIES

THURSDAY, 20TH JUNE.

HE SAVES THROUGH WORDS

…Send men to Joppa, and call for Simon, whose surname is Peter; Who shall tell thee words, whereby thou and all thy house shall be saved (Acts 11:13-14).

In Acts 11, we read the very insightful account of the conversion of Cornelius and his household.

Cornelius was a Roman centurion who was devout and prayerful. He was God-fearing and regularly gave alms to the poor, yet he wasn’t saved. But on a certain day, an angel appeared to him, instructing him to send for Peter who shall tell him words, whereby he and all his house shall be saved.

God saw the man’s “goodness” and moral uprightness, yet those weren’t enough to save him. The angel specifically said to him, “…Thy prayers and thine alms are come up for a memorial before God” (Acts 10:4). Yet, the man still needed to send for the Apostle Peter, who would lead him and his household to utter the words of salvation. This shows that God saves through words! But what words?

Romans 10:9 corroborates this principle. It says, “…if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.” The word, “confess” is from the Greek “homologia,” and it means, “speaking the same thing in consent”; in other words, you have to speak words that are in agreement with what God has said, in order for you to be saved. That’s true confession, and principle for salvation.

Salvation is all-encompassing. It refers to deliverance from sin and it’s consequences, preservation, divine healing and health, protection, prosperity and all the good things that the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ obtained for you. To be saved, therefore, means to be severed and totally disconnected from all negative influences and circumstances of life; and there’s more. The confession of His Lordship.

When you say, “Jesus is Lord over my life,” besides the fact that you’re immediately transferred from the domain of darkness into the kingdom of God’s love-Son, you’re also affirming that He’s the Shepherd and Lord over your life, business, finances; therefore, you’ll never lack or be poor! He’s Lord over your body; therefore, you’ll never be sick or diseased! You’re also declaring that He’s your refuge and your fortress, and for that reason, you dwell in safety. Blessed be God!

PRAYER

Dear Father, I thank you for your blessed Word that’s fulfilled in my life. I make progress from glory to glory, in the direction of your perfect will for my life, because I live in your Word, and speak faith-filled words. I dwell in health, safety, and peace forever, in Jesus’ Name. Amen

FURTHER STUDY

Mark 11:23 For verily I say unto you, That whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith.

Romans 10:9-10 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
