Tonto Dikeh took to Instagram early this morning, to call out media hub journalist, Azuka for saying she lied about her ex-husband, Churchill in a new interview. Azuka said Churchill never beat Tonto Dikeh in Ghana.
If you recall,Azuka is the one who had the explosive interview with Tonto Dikeh about  her marriage and domestic violence allegations .

According to Tonto Dikeh,Churchill  paid Azuka who is now managing him.She warned her to stay off her case and cursed her,vowing she will never have peace.

GOVERNOR Nasir el-Rufai of Kaduna State, yesterday, broke down in tears when he met with five-year-old, Sàdiq Usman, whose two eyes were removed by ritualists in Zaria last year.

Little Sadiq, who was at the commissioning of the Yahaya Hamza Primary School in Zaria, refurbished by Airtel, is being trained by staff of Airtel under Staff Volunteer Scheme.

He has been enrolled at the Ango Abdullahi International School, where Airtel provided special equipment for his training.

Governor el-Rufai, moved by the sight of the little Sadiq, brought out a handkerchief to wipe his tears as he carried the little boy on his laps.

The Managing Director of Airtel Nigeria, Mr. Segun Ogunsanya, in his speech, said the company’s decision to adopt the Yahaya Hamza Primary School for renovation was part of its corporate social responsibility, anchored on the belief that education was a ticket to prosperity.

He said: “We believe good education is a human right. It is a ticket to prosperity. It creates a level-playing field for everyone to succeed. In recognition of the role education plays in the development of a community, Airtel Nigeria has decided, as part of our corporate social responsibility vision, to adopt Hamza Primary School, Zaria.”

Speaking on the plight of Sadik, Ogunsanya said the staff of Airtel under the Employee Volunteer Scheme contributed money to enrol the boy in a primary school in Zaria, where they pay his school fees.

He said they also pay for his aids like sophisticated Perkins Braille, Braille Coacher, Abacus, typewriter, tailors frame and a computer laptop so that the boy will be “empowered to learn to read and write and enjoy all the opportunities good education provides and lead a normal life.

“Our support will not just end here. Sadik is our adopted son and he will continue to be our priority and in our prayers.”

In vanguard of financial inclusion to address the unbanked populace, Ecobank has introduced Xpress Cash, a mobile phone that allows customers to withdraw cash from any Ecobank ATM using e-Tokens generated from the Ecobank Mobile app.


The e-token generated can also be redeemed at agent locations within any of Ecobank’s 33 territories across middle Africa. Additionally, customers can send e-tokens to third parties via SMS, email or social media.

Ecobank Group CEO, Ade Ayeyemi said, innovating for customer convenience is in our DNA. “We have developed this fast, convenient and innovative mobile banking solution –cardless Xpress Cash at our ATMs and Agencies to embed our digital platforms within the lifestyle of our customers and improve the uptake of digital financial solutions by both banked and unbanked in Africa.”

World Bank data indicates that in sub-Saharan Africa only 34 per cent of adults had a bank account in 2014, up from 24 per cent in 2011.

However, according to the Global System Mobile Association (GSMA) report – The Mobile Economy Sub-Saharan Africa 2017, at the end of 2016, there were 420 million unique mobile subscribers in sub-Saharan Africa. This accounts for almost 10% of the global mobile subscriber base, and is expected to exponentially grow.

In a recent interview, the Managing Director of Ecobank Nigeria, Charles Kie had said that the pan-Africa bank was focused on being a market leader, especially as the banking industry transits to the digital space, described as the future.

According to Kie “Let me be very clear on this, the app is just one channel out of many that we are using to support the financial institution. When we are talking about enhancing the digitisation of our platforms, what exactly do we have in mind? What do typically customers go to branches to do? They either go to deposit money or they either go to withdraw money. Today, frankly, why would someone go into a branch – to withdraw money or to transfer money. This is why ATMs were put together in most places to allow customers to just withdraw without having to go into the branches.

On September 5, Ecobank Transnational Incorporated, ETI, the Lome-based parent company of the Ecobank Group, signed a five-year senior unsecured loan facility of $250 million from Deutsche Bank AG. The Public Investment Company (PIC) of South Africa, one of the major institutional shareholders of ETI, is providing full credit support to Deutsche Bank in this transaction via a sub–participation of risk. The $250 million new facility will be used primarily to refinance maturing facilities.

Hugh Hefner, the incurable playboy who built a publishing and entertainment empire on the idea that Americans should shed their puritanical hang-ups and enjoy sex, has died. He was 91.

He died of natural causes at his home, the Playboy Mansion, according to Teri Thomerson, a Playboy spokesperson.

Hefner was the founder of Playboy magazine, launched amid the conservatism of the 1950s, when marriage and domesticity conferred social status. Hefner pitched an alternative standard — swinging singlehood — which portrayed the desire for sex as being as normal as craving apple pie. He redefined status for a generation of men, replacing lawn mowers and fishing gear with new symbols: martini glasses, a cashmere sweater and a voluptuous girlfriend, the necessary components of a new lifestyle that melded sex and materialism.

Thus, in Playboy magazine, the upwardly mobile man could ogle pictures of naked women called Playmates, chosen personally by Hefner for their large busts and girl-next-door wholesomeness. Surrounding the titillating visuals were interviews with luminaries from Albert Schweitzer to Malcolm X; short stories by such leading writers as Ernest Hemingway and John Updike; and advice columns on such matters as how to prepare the perfect vodka gimlet or appreciate jazz — all of which lent credence to many men's claims that they bought the magazine for the articles.

This combination of flesh and intellectuality made Playboy the world's bestselling men's magazine and Hefner a millionaire many times over. The venture gave him a pulpit from which to preach the virtues of a postwar revolution in morality and propelled sex into the American mainstream.

“Hefner was the first publisher to see that the sky would not fall and mothers would not march if he published bare bosoms; he realized that the old taboos were going,” Time magazine said in a 1967 cover story. “He took the old-fashioned, shame-thumbed girlie magazines, stripped off the plain wrapper, added gloss, class and culture. It proved to be a sure-fire formula.”

The magazine reflected Hefner himself — or at least the invention that became known the world over as Hefner, or simply Hef. He was the personification of the Playboy ideal, the pajama-loving lord of the grandest bachelor pad on Earth.

“If you don't swing, don't ring,” read a brass doorplate at the original Playboy Mansion in Chicago, a 48-room abode where Hefner reveled with bevies of Playmates on a rotating, circular bed. Later, he moved the party to Playboy Mansion West, a six-acre compound above Beverly Hills with 30 rooms, an underground grotto, a staff of 70 and a round-the-clock kitchen attuned to his unconventional schedule — scrambled eggs at, say, 5 p.m., or fried chicken at midnight.

He shared the fantasy not only through the magazine but through a string of Playboy Clubs, where anyone able to pay a modest membership fee could be served food and drinks by “Bunnies” — well-endowed women costumed in rabbit ears, puffy tails and satin corsets so tight that sneezing burst the seams. The black-and-white Bunny logo that adorned the magazine and all manner of merchandise, from cufflinks to cocktail napkins, became a coveted mark of suavity.

Just what the Bunny really stood for — sexual freedom or sexist oppression — became fodder for the cultural wars of the 1960s and ‘70s. Feminist Gloria Steinem fired one of the first shots when she posed as a Bunny and wrote a scathing expose in Show magazine in 1963. “Reading Playboy,” she later said, “feels a little like a Jew reading a Nazi manual.”

Despite such criticism, Playboy's sales zoomed to 7 million copies a month in the 1970s

Being born again, you’ve been given a life of glory and success. Some Christians don’t realize this, and are therefore hoping and praying that God will do something more that’ll better their lives. There’s nothing more the Lord needs to do than He already did for you in Christ. He’s already done everything necessary for your total well-being and prosperity. He’s done everything for you to live in righteousness, dominion, and power.

If, for example, you’ve been praying, “Lord, give me peace,” stop it! He already gave you peace. He said in John 14:27, _*“Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you….”*_ There’s really nothing for you to ask Him for anymore; read our opening scripture again.

What you need today is to take possession of the blessings He’s already made available to you. Take advantage of what He’s already done. 1 Corinthians 3:21 says _*“…all things are yours….”*_ But 2 Peter 1:2 gives us the clue to how you can enjoy them. It says, _*“…through the knowledge of God, and of Jesus our Lord.”*_ Grace, peace, promotion, blessings, and prosperity will be multiplied in your life through the knowledge of God, and of Jesus, our Lord.

Notice that the scripture directs your attention to revelation knowledge through the Word (Greek— “epignosis”)! That’s what you need; the specialized knowledge that comes to you through study and meditation on the Word.

Through this special knowledge of God, and of Jesus Christ, not only are you acquainted with your rights, privileges, blessings and inheritance in Christ, you’re catapulted to the realm where you walk in the vital reality of the full blessings of the Gospel. Blessed be God!

Angry Qatar Airways passengers cause commotion at Lagos Airport On September 26,  News by Nwafor PolycarpComments Some aggrieved passengers of Qatar Airways on Tuesday caused a commotion at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, over the airline’s delay of their flight for two days. Journalists report that the passengers had besieged the airline’s check-in counter, demanding to be put on any available flight, to enable them to meet up with their engagements outside the country.  They had on Sunday boarded the flight at 10:00 a.m. enroute Doha, to connect to their respective destinations, only to be disembarked due to operational reasons. One of the passengers, Rev. Segun Agbetuyi, in a text message sent to newsmen, said that they were taken to a hotel later on Sunday. “They woke us all up at 4.30 a.m. this morning to bring us to the airport for boarding, only to get to the airport and find that no serious arrangements had been made,’’ he said. The spokesperson for the Lagos Airport Police Command, DSP Joseph Alabi, who confirmed the development, told newsmen that the issue had been resolved. He said: “They have since left and the issue has been resolved. I learnt that there was a delay and the passengers were not happy. “However, when I arrived, I saw things moving smoothly at the check-in and I was informed that arrangements have been made to convey them to their destinations.’’ On his part, a media consultant to the airline, who simply gave his name as Mr Mike, said the passengers were agitated because they had been in the hotel for two days and their flight had been delayed. “They needed to get to their destinations and so when they came in here, it was a crowd but we have sorted out the issue and put some of them on the flight. “The few of them that are remaining, we are taking them to other airlines,’’ he said. British Airways has sacked a stewardess who posted a racist Snapchat rant attacking Nigerian passengers.

MailOnline reports that the lady, who had been identified as Joanne Wickenden, got the sack after a two-hour meeting with her bosses.

Wickenden sparked outrage after recording the racist clip in her BA uniform before flying from London Heathrow to Abuja on Friday. In a statement on Tuesday, the airline said, “She no longer works for British Airways. We expect the utmost professionalism from our staff when they are representing British Airways.”

The 23-year-old, who wants to be an actress, told friends, “I am not a racist,” and claimed the sickening video was “just a joke.”

She told MailOnline, “I have been set up by another BA employee. They were encouraging me, egging me on to say things. They were recording me and sent it around to our friends.

“I don’t want to fly anymore.’

A friend said the unnamed employee wanted Wickenden to “impersonate what goes on on the flight.”

A source told MailOnline that the video – which was captioned, ‘I can’t cope with this flight’ – was circulated among BA cabin crew.

Another shocked staff member said BA should apologise to its Nigerian passengers. In the expletive-filled footage, Wickenden had said, “All Nigerians are going to be asking for f****** upgrades.”

“Alright, so all of yous are there getting ready for your Friday night, getting in the pre-drinks, you know, as you do. 

“And I’m here, getting ready to go to work, put on a yellow life jacket, point out the exits, hand out chicken or beef; what sort of Friday night is this for me?

“The upside is I’m going to Nigeria and there’s gonna be bare B**, I’m joking, I’m joking.

“All the Nigerians are gonna be there like ‘gimme Coca-Cola, gimme me beef, why you have no beef left? I want beef.

“And I’m just gonna be there like, ‘Sorry sir, we ran out of beef.

“All the Nigerians are gonna be there asking for f****** upgrades because they haven’t got enough leg room because their B**s are in their way. Big d**** like this swinging from side to side.”

An airline source told MailOnline; “My friend was horrified. BA has a culture of dealing with things like this internally; she passed it to me because she was concerned that nothing was done.”

The Federal Government has, to date, released N336 billion from the 2017 Budget to ministries, departments and agencies, MDAs, for funding of capital projects in the first quarter of 2017.

The balance of N14 billion is being processed, pending resolution of some formalities within the agencies concerned, according to the Ministry of Finance.

A statement by the Deputy Director, Press, Patricia Deworitshe, in Abuja, yesterday, said the Ministry of Power, Works and Housing received N90 billion, followed by Defence and Security, which got N71 billion, while Transport got N30 billion.

Further details showed that Agriculture received N30 billion and Water Resources got N12 billion. Allocations to other sectors made up the balance of N103 billion.

Minister of Finance, Mrs. Kemi Adeosun, said the prioritisation of the release of available funds was made in accordance with the objectives of the Economic Recovery and Growth Plan, ERGP.

However, inquiries by Vanguard showed that it remains uncertain when the second quarter capital allocations will be released.

Emmanuel, younger brother of Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB), has asked the Nigerian Army to produce his corpse if he has been killed.

Kanu and his parents have gone missing, since the military raided their Afarakwu residence in Abia State on September 14.

Speaking on behalf of the family on Tuesday, Emmanuel said he strongly believes his brother fell into the hands of the troops.

“It is either they (soldiers) captured him or killed him when they attacked our house. If they captured him, they should release him to the police, and if they have killed him, they should produce the corpse because he was last seen moments before the raid,” he said.

However, the Army has denied keeping Kanu in its custody.

Kanu’s younger brother added that the family had been searching for the IPOB leader and his parents for two weeks without making any headway.

So I decided to share this because I realized there are many people out there that need it, so I implore you to kindly see it to the end and I promise you that it would be worth your time. 
Earlier yesterday (15/06/17) while returning from somewhere I was stopped by a Police officer probably because I was having a backpack with me.

So the dude stopped me and demanded to see what's in the bag, I showed it to him and he found a laptop there. I don't know maybe that gave him the impression that I'm a yahoo boy or something but after several attempts to power the PC and it's not coming up so I told him the battery was down. 

Then he asked for my ID Card, which I showed him, then he requested for my phone. Now I know some of you are gonna say the CP of police said No officer has the right to a citizen phone, Yeah! I knew about that but I don't really think it's going to work with a typical Nigeria Police officer who's on a mission to get something from you, so I just obliged and gave him the phone after unlocking it, the dude practically launched my whatsapp app and read almost all the chats, he keeps going at it until he came across my chat with a friend where I said "300$ PayPal" and Yipee! That gave me out as a Yahoo boy. He was so keen on that fact that discussing about a dollar means I'm a yahoo guy. After so many attempts to reason with him failed, he led me to their station and demanded for a whooping sum of #50,000 for bail. I swear I don't know why but I had to laugh when he mentioned that sum. 

So I was like I don't have that kind of money and he told me to call my family, I replied by saying they aren't in lag (actually that was a lie, I had to said that because I had no intention of having anyone worried over me). 

After spending up to 3hours in the station, I saw an old friend who is probably a sergeant or something so I told him all what happened and he promised to help out. This guy went in and came back to tell me that they've accepted to release me on #30,000 bail. I was so filled with rage, disappointment, fear all at the same time. 

But for God so good, I was scrolling through my phone and I saw a pix my phone downloaded from whatsapp probably because my Auto download was on. In the pix is some words that read thus: "have you ever been harassed by a police officer? Charged unnecessarily? Or anything of such, if so call any of these number". I punched the digits on my phone and dialled the number, that call was directly to the CP office after reporting everything that transpired between the Inspector, the person asked me which division of the police station I was, I told him and he ended the call. 

Some few minutes after that I was summoned from where I am by the DPO himself and after explaining things to him he apologised on behalf of his officers and told the man that arrested me that the CP has already made a decision on him, meanwhile I couldn't wait and listen to the rest of the story since I was in haste to break my fast. 

I realized many people have experienced so many injustice at the hands of these Men in Black, many are still experiencing it and many will still experience it. I decided to give the contact I dialed out to people as many as possible. Yeah.

This is the competing demands of time, scope and quality upon the project manager’s list of things to do and how well the project manager manages these constraints goes a long way in determining the success of the project. Without the use of Project Management, managers and organisations would find themselves facing an unpredictable and chaotic environment over which they have little control. 

Thus, Project Management is both necessary and essential to the success of the project. Indeed, project Management is too big an area to be covered in just one training and the attempt at this training is to give insights into the immediate skills that will help officers of the Lagos State Public Service to automate tasks and become more effeccient and effective in delivering value and meeting set goals and to provide a framework within which subsequent actions by the organisation can be taken. Having described project management above in the manner stated by the management Study Guide, we may now briefly consider why organisations such as the Lagos State Public Service should embrace project management principles. ?As a growing field used increasingly by businesses of all sizes and as entrepreneurs and company executives deal with the daily responsibilities of managing an organisation, it is important to use dedicated project managers to oversee projects from conception to completion. Understanding effective project management techniques helps organisations carry out large-scale projects on time, on budget and with minimal disruption to the rest of the organisation. 

Project management skills help in delivering on temporary and unique ventures. While an organisation is a continuous and ongoing operation, a project is a temporary venture aimed at producing a unique product, service or process. In many cases, this uniqueness means there aren’t any blueprints or steps in place to develop the end product. Project managers have expertise and experience in creating plans to deliver these items. In addition, they seamlessly integrate resources across an organisation’s departments and utilize communication, planning and budgeting skills to bring projects to completion. 

Furthermore, many organisational projects involve large-scale planning that affects every departments. Implementing the project may mean dealing with human resources, budgetary and supply constraints. Accredited project managers are skilled in project management techniques specific to dealing with one-time projects. They can create plans to manage interdependence and address resource conflict. Organisations that use project management to monitor and control processes and schedules can more effectively complete their projects on time and on budget. Meeting timelines is another reason for the adoption of project management practices. Creating a project timeline requires coordinating project activities in conjunction with the ongoing business activities. A project manager will identify and detail activities required in each phase of a project and lead teams with members of  staff to carry out each phase. Working within the parameters of a project management plan, a schedule sets out target dates for completion of tasks within each phase. The time line is directly correlated to the scope of a project. Project management practices also help in defining the scope of projects. Project management is imperative for organisations implementing wide-ranging or comprehensive projects. Scope refers to the breadth of a project, or how much of the business will be affected, and the bigger the project, the more details and planning are required to successfully bring it to fruition. Carrying out a wide-scale business endeavour requires careful coordination to ensure minimal impact on ongoing sales and production. 

Budget formulation and management is another area where project management skills are important. Project management helps keep projects on budget. A good project management plan identifies anticipated costs early on to develop a realistic budget. Using resource conflict solutions, project managers can minimise the effect of funding a new project on operating capital by optimising the allocation of workers. Coordinating tasks and clearly identifying goals or deliverables within phases reduces inefficiencies in time management that can result in being over-budget. 

The training will focus on identifying and teaching the skills required for success in project management. In this regard Helena Bachar has identified 10 essential project management skills as follows: Budget management: In order to keep a project on track, a project manager must have a solid grasp of basic accounting principles and must maintain a constant awareness of the project’s budgetary performance. Identifying variances or discrepancies as soon as they arise will help avoid unpleasant surprises down the road. Scope management: Project managers must have a thorough understanding of what is and is not in scope at the beginning of every project. When a project’s scope needs to change, be sure to document the change appropriately, create a clear audit trail and communicate the impact on budgets and timelines to all stakeholders. c.Conflict resolution: The bigger the project and the higher the stakes, the more likely it is that conflicts will arise. Whether the disagreement is between members of the same team, between a vendor and a customer, or between any other groups of stakeholders, a good project manager knows how to defuse tension and find a path forward. Setting expectations and providing transparency throughout the project lifecycle can go far in minimising conflicts and keeping everything on track. d.Creating and delivering presentations: Even if one’s a gifted writer and an engaging speaker, delivering an effective presentation is a distinct skill, one that requires practice. Project managers should understand how to use presentation software and A/V equipment to get important messages across.? 

Time management: Much of a project manager’s job involves determining and communicating how other people will spend their time, but it’s equally important to be aware of how you’re managing your own time. Look for opportunities you might have to become more efficient by delegating responsibilities, multi-tasking, or rearranging your schedule. f.Negotiation: Discussions about budgets, resource allocation, and timelines can become adversarial and counter-productive if not handled tactfully. Successful project managers know how to find compromises where possible and how to hold a firm line without damaging their workplace relationships. ?g.Relationship management: Good project managers make a conscious effort to build trust with customers, vendors, and internal team members. Positive working relationships make it easier to navigate through disputes and other difficult situation. 

h.Risk management: When something goes wrong on a project, all eyes turn to the project manager. Regardless of the circumstances, everyone wonders whether the manager could have foreseen and prevented the problem. Being able to anticipate issues and develop solutions for them in advance will dramatically improve  chances of success. i.Maintaining communications: With traditional project management, there’s a fine line between keeping people in the loop and overwhelming your team with a flood of emails and meeting invitations. Reducing status meetings and emails while keeping everyone in the loop is now possible with modern online project management software—where all information is accessible from one place. j.Using technology effectively: Project management software has evolved dramatically in recent years, opening up new possibilities for collaboration, data management, communication and reporting. _*But by the grace of God I am what I am: and his grace which was bestowed upon me was not in vain; but I laboured more abundantly than they all: yet not I, but the grace of God which was with me (1 Corinthians 15:10).*_

We might as well consider the verse above one of the major secrets of the Apostle Paul’s great success in ministry. He was so mightily used of God because he had absolute reliance on the grace of God. All that he did and became as an apostle of Jesus Christ was the result of God’s grace upon his life, not his human or natural abilities. He understood that man’s natural abilities, and material accomplishments, don’t count with God.

Talking about the results of his natural abilities, he wrote, _*“But what things were gain to me, those I counted loss for Christ. Yea doubtless, and I count all things but loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord: for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and do count them but dung, that I may win Christ”*_ (Philippians 3:7-8).

God doesn’t look at your education, as good as that may be. He doesn’t look at your financial status, as good as it may be. He doesn’t look at what you’ve learnt in the world. In fact, to be able to follow Him and walk with Him effectively, you must walk by faith. His grace is all you need. See again how Paul affirms this in 2 Corinthians 12:9: _*“And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.”*_

The strength of God is revealed in your weakness. Now, you can better understand why the young lad, David, without any apparent natural endowment, was chosen to be king ahead of his more physically qualified older brothers. Nothing at all from the physical perspective qualified David to be king; it was purely an election by grace, coupled with the condition of his heart.

God always wants to use that man or woman who has nothing natural or of himself to boast of. Otherwise, He’ll have no glory. If you want to be used mightily of God, don’t rely on yourself or on your natural talents. Rather, like the Apostle Paul, depend fully on God’s grace.

Unbelievable: Woman Cuts Her Pregnant Friend's Throat, Tears Unborn Baby From Her Stomach on Her Wedding Day




The court has heard that Ashleigh Wade allegedly killed her pregnant pal Angelikque Sutton and stole her baby on her wedding day

Ashleigh Wade is a woman who has been accused of brutally slashing her pregnant friend's throat on her wedding day and then cutting out her uterus to steal the baby girl inside - but incredibly the child survived.

According to The Sun UK, the victim, Angelikque Sutton, 22, was nine months into her pregnancy and reportedly on the way to a courthouse to marry Patrick Bradley when pal Ashleigh Wade stopped her in the Bronx, New York, USA.

Wade allegedly lured Ms Sutton to her apartment in November 2015 and cut her voice box before taking the baby from the womb, reported Mail Online.

"Ms Sutton could not scream, could not say a word," said assistant Bronx district attorney Meredith Holtzman at the murder trial on Monday.

Holtzman said what Wade did next was "unspeakable", accusing her of cutting the entire uterus out and then discarding the organ on the floor with Ms Sutton's "butchered remains".

NYPD cop Jonathan Polanco Ortiz who arrived at the crime scene told jurors it "left a mark on his soul".

He said when he asked how many times she stabbed Ms Sutton, Wade replied "as many times as I could".

She reportedly screamed at officers "it's my baby", while being dragged away.

Remarkably, the now flourishing 22-month-old child Jenasis lived through the horror.

Angelikque Sutton was killed by her friend

Her dad Mr Bradley regularly posts photographs of his daughter on Facebook, one showed her learning how to box.

In a January Facebook message, Mr Bradley posted dual images of a playful Sutton sticking out her tongue next to a picture of her daughter mimicking the funny face.
“I showed my daughter this pic of her mom and she started making this face,” he wrote, reported the New York Post.
“Moments like this be hard to handle.”

The court learned that Wade, who has suffered depression, childhood abuse and domestic violence, called 911 multiple times and waited outside after allegedly committing the horror act.

She claimed she stabbed Ms Sutton in self-defence.

Jurors heard that Wade had reconnected with Ms Sutton, a childhood friend, through Facebook.

For months, The New York Post reported Wade had lied to friends and acquaintances that she was pregnant.

She even posted pictures of sonogram and baby clothes on Facebook.

"She didn't have a baby, for that she needed Angelikque Sutton," added Holtzman.

If the defense succeeds, the charges could be reduced to manslaughter and Wade could avoid a life sentence, reported the New York Post.

Nigerian hip-hop twins, Peter and Paul Okoye of the popular stage name P-Square, that dominated the Nigerian music industry for many years, have finally gone their separate ways.

According to a letter sent to their lawyer, Mr. Festus Keyamo (SAN), by Peter, he demanded a termination of the agreement as a group.

According to the copy of a letter in some media outlets Monday, Peter based his decision on some serious allegations against his twin brother, Paul, and Jude, their elder brother and manager.

He accused Paul of no longer willing to co-operate with him.

He also accused him of cancelling their scheduled music tour to the United States.

He added that Paul was also slandering his wife and children with lies on social media and alleged that his family was being threatened with messages.

Peter, according to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), further accused his elder brother, Jude, of threatening to kill him and shoot his wife, Lola.

Peter stressed that he was tired of the "drama" and all he wanted was opting out of the P-Square group and contract.

The social media was set on fire after Peter posted a Snapchat video revealing that he is in Philadelphia on his own for a solo show - without his twin brother, Paul.

"My name is Mr. P," Peter said, adding: "As from today, guess what? Its show time, I'm about to go on stage."

This post came days after his brother, Paul, wrote on Instagram saying: "Only a woman can come where there's peace and destroy it."

The Okoye brothers have been engulfed in a war of words on the social media in recent times, and this development has confirmed rumours that there have been strains in their relationship.

This is even as Mr. Aigboje Aig-Imoukhuede bowed out as President of the exchange after 56th Annual General Meeting, AGM, held yesterday.Also, the fist vice President of the NSE, Mr Abimbola Ogunbanjo, emerged as the new president of the NSE.

The council members appointed the successor of Aig-Imoukhuede after the AGM yesterday.

The retired members include Alhaji Aliko Dangote, Muhammad Daggash , Finmal Financial Services Limited (represented by Dr. Umaru Kwairanga); Greenwich Trust Limited (represented by Mr. Kayode Falowo) ,  ICMG Securities Limited (represented by Mr. Michael Osime),  Meristem Securities Limited (represented by Mr. Oluwole Abegunde) ,  Sigma Securities Limited (represented by Mr. Dunama Balami) and  Signet Investment and Securities Limited (represented by Mr. Oladipo Aina).

Today, I am proud to report that this process, which had lingered in the exchange for several years has now advanced to the point of near completion.”

Hospital services in Akwa Ibom State have received a boost as Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, inaugurated a General Hospital in the state. He described the hospital as an outstanding people-oriented project.

*ANGELS ANSWER TO US .*

_*Being made so much better than the angels, as he hath by inheritance obtained a more excellent name than they (Hebrews 1:4).*_

There’s a remarkable difference between life and the operations of God in the Old Testament, in comparison with the New Testament. For example, in the Old Testament, the angels had authority over God’s people to the point they could pronounce judgement or punishment on them for doing something wrong.

A simple example is when Zachariah didn’t believe the word of the angel Gabriel. The angel didn’t spare him; he said, “I’m Gabriel; I function in the presence of God; because you disbelieved my word, you shall be dumb until the child is born” (Read Luke 1:19-22), and it was so. Can you imagine that? He punished Zachariah for his unbelief.

However, in the New Testament, the angels are our servants; they serve us. Hebrews 1:13-14 says, _*“But to which of the angels said he at any time, Sit on my right hand, until I make thine enemies thy footstool? Are they not all ministering spirits, sent forth to minister for them who shall be heirs of salvation?”*_ We’re the heirs of salvation; angels are ministering spirits sent forth to minister for us. They ministered to those in the Old Testament, but they minister to and for us in the New Testament. This is wonderful!

Philippians 2:9-11, talking about the Lord Jesus, says, _*“Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth.”*_ This shows how real and powerful the Name of Jesus is.

We’re superior to the angels because we’re born of God and are joint-heirs with Christ; we’re associates of the God-kind. God gave us the Name of Jesus, which is above every name; and we live in, and by that Name. Hence, we can give instructions to angels and they’ll obey us, because we give those instructions in the Name of Jesus. Hallelujah!

*Dear Father, I thank you for the authority that’s mine in Christ Jesus. I reign and rule with Him over all things. Thank you for your holy angels that minister for me; I recognize their presence with me today. It was a week-long programme of activities, including a free medical outreach to residents of Okolobiri community in Yenagoa local government area of the state.

Chief Medical Director, CMD, NDUTH, Prof. Dimie Ogoina, said that with perceived expectations and challenges facing the young institution, surviving 10 years as a tertiary hospital and having the opportunity to learn from the past, were among the reasons for the celebrations.

“The NDUTH is currently the only state owned tertiary health facility in Bayelsa State established in September 2007 with the mandate to provide specialist healthcare, train health manpower and conduct health research, over the last decade, we are proud to have significantly contributed to health care delivery and medical education in the Niger Delta. We have cared for thousands from across Niger Delta and beyond and trained hundreds of health workers in various fields.”

Chairman of the Medical Advisory Committee, NDUTH, Dr. Johnbull Jumbo, asserted: “As part of our 10th year anniversary, we are carrying out a medical outreach in our host community, Okolobiri. The aim is to give back to the community as part of our corporate social responsibility. The treatment for patients is free, screening them for diseases because many of them due to ignorance may not afford health care services in our hospitals, so this is an opportunity for them to seek health care.”

One of the beneficiaries, Madam Tokoni Perezide, who was diagnosed with high blood pressure and given counselling and medication, commended the organizers of the medical outreach for the initiative, saying: “We want this kind of programme to be organised frequently. It will help poor people like us, who cannot afford medical care, benefit as well. We are grateful for their efforts but it should be periodical.”

Addressing newsmen in Warri, Delta State, USSYC national president, Chief Egbe Pereotubo, called for “The zoning of the office of the Presidency of Nigeria among the six geopolitical regions in the federation to give each a sense of belonging.”

He warned that the multinational oil companies would have all their operations effectively grounded permanently in South-South states if they fail to heed the call, adding, “They should also immediately put in place the process of employing 3,000 direct contract staff in their companies.”

On presidency, USSYC said: “The rotation should start with the North and we call on former military Head of State, General Abdulsalami Abuabakar, to vie for President because he is a man of honour that kept to his word by handing over power to civilians in 1999.”

Pereotubo added “Our stand is that Nigeria should be democratically restructured to ensure that all Nigerians can live, practice their trades and professions, including party politics anywhere in the country without let or hindrance.

“We demand that non-violent youths should be financially rewarded as in the amnesty granted our freedom fighters , so as not to be seen as encouraging violent tendencies in the region. We also demand withdrawal of military checkpoints in the Niger Delta region because we are not at war with anybody. You cannot call some people militants and yet continue to pay them and even provide them with security personnel and guards to move around.

Was acting something you knew you will end up doing while growing up? I knew from about the age of 10 and my parents supported me from about the ages of 10… (Laughs) In the schools that I went to after my A-Levels, I prayed and asked God for confirmation and when he said Yes, I spoke to my father and he said to take a gap, between A-Levels and this industry you want to work in and see whether it is really what you want. And at that time, I’m talking of the late 70’s and early 80’s. To have a doctor mother and a lawyer father who are both at the top of their professions, saying their child should take a gap here.You know, it wasn’t common in our time but they allowed me to do that. When they found out that this was what I wanted to do and it was what I enjoyed doing, they said: “well, go to drama school”. At the time you were growing up, there were certain professions that were considered noble like Engineering, Medicine, Accounting and the likes. Did that not bother your parents? Well, I think what bothered them was whether I will make a living out of this profession I wanted to go into. That was the main concern. They knew the talent was there, they nurtured the talent, they encouraged the talent, but I think the idea was to encourage the talent to be a hobby (laughs…) you know, my mother played the piano and it was her hobby.

It was even by accident I discovered she knew how to play the piano. She learnt while growing up… you know, it was something like that for them when it was also what I wanted to do. That’s why they gave me the gap here. It was to see how stressful the industry could be, how uncertain it could be in the sense that you don’t always have work all the time. But unfortunately for them in my gap here I was working right from the beginning to the end. Sometimes I had like three jobs at the same time. So I was working so often and they saw that I liked it so they supported me. While growing, were there circumstances that made you make a detour from acting? After getting married and having 2 children, work had dried up.

I got married in 1985 and my second child was born in 1998. There was very little work and I was bored. So I went back to the university. I did my drama with the drama school then went to the University of Lagos to study English. It was while I was at the university that I now did some more work under Fani Kayode, mind-bending but there was one-time work dried up and I found myself teaching so many students in private schools. I taught in Abbey schools, I taught in Green Woodhouse, I taught in Atlantic Hall and a lot of my students are now in the industry. So many of them. You are one of the celebrities whose marriage have worked and is still working. Unfortunately, we get to hear too many stories of broken homes. Does that not bother you? It doesn’t, not particularly.

I think it’s important for people to know what their thresh hold of pain is, what their thresh hold of acceptability is, I think sometimes in this society we tend to say “Oh, you must stay in the marriage no matter what he does to you”, to the individuals who have stayed in the marriage. You will hear of some women who have stayed with their husband right throughout the difficulty and when the husband dies, you hear them, they’re so bitter because it seems as if they wasted their life and this is something that the younger generation doesn’t want to go through. With that being said, I think also that there is a little need for both sides to see each other as human beings. There is a tendency for us to have the wrath of a man, our boys are raised from when they’re babies, and they’re saying “ehh! Wo! O ma sawonbirin leshe” (he will deal with these women) (claps)… so when a woman all of a sudden, say that this man should become responsible, should become accepting, should be able to take a leadership position, where he is a servant leader, how? He was never brought up to be a servant leader.He was brought up to be the king of kings and lord of lords! (Claps…). So, it’s a shift thing in mindset. It’s difficult but it’s something we have to do and that is why we are seeing what we’re seeing. That is why the marriages are not making it. The woman are like, “excuse me, I’ve gone to school, I do my share in this house” you know? Let me give you an example; I remember I had a brief conversation with someone where I said “Oh! WOW! Your house is beautiful. Ah! Well done to you and your wife.” He said “What did she contribute? It was me.

I built it.” And I said “Sweetie, the fact that she wasn’t asking you for the money and she was making sure it was possible for you to build the house, if she did not give you a dime towards the house, her support to you building the house is her share in the house. Do you understand? But you know, they weren’t built up to think like that so you find that a lot of mothers will say; when you are building your house, if it’s only the roof, if it’s only a few tiles you can buy, you should buy it so that you’ll have a claim of the house. With your successful marriage story; there must have been a Pet name for your husband and for you? (Giggles) Ahh yes! His pet name is Omo boy and he feels excited and fulfilled whenever I call him that.

Are there no moments it becomes heavy for you and you don’t want to call him Omo Boy? Laye (Never)! When there is Omoboy and then I say “Olu”, that’s Wahala (laughs). And then same is with me when he says “Iya”, that’s my pet name and when he says “Joke!” I know am in trouble. You have sure paid your dues in the industry and still very much relevant; some scholars are of the opinion that there is a parallel line that exist between stage actors and screen actors? I am a part of “Heart Beat-The Musical” which is a stage performance. Now there are the techniques for the stage actors, and the screen actor’s techniques are different. But there is a point where they converge and that is the understanding. Analyzing and understanding your character! They converge there in understanding the script and the role of your character being the world of the play, and accepting the reality of the world in the play of your script.
Where they diverge, is the energy, the energy as in projection, not just in voice but in the entire personality. On stage, you have to project everything, your voice, your personality, your gesture, everything is projected. But in screen, even if it’s a big screen, the bigger the screen, the smaller your projection has to be (laughs..) because if you go all big as you go on stage because you’re going on a big screen, you will look at yourself and go – wawu. (Laughs). Which do you find more comfortable? I love both; I understood the techniques of both. I didn’t understand the techniques for a while in the early years so I used to feel much more comfortable on stage but once I got an understanding of the screen, it was easy. How do you feel whenever a project brings you and your husband together? It’s usually fun and exciting; at the same time we put professionalism in what we do. Take for instance, if we are to play the role of a couple in a movie set, we do it according how the script explains and leaves everything behind.

So after the set we come back as family but on set we are who we are ‘Actors’. What’s that one word that keeps you going? Grace! In reflexion, what are you most grateful for career-wise? Being able to re-invent myself in ways that make sense. I am very grateful that at every point of my career, re-invention has made sense for that particular time it occurred. This has also ensured that I remain relevant. You have stayed on top of your game for over four decades. Do you see yourself retiring soon? I am very lucky to belong to an industry that doesn’t recognize retirement. There are so many actors in the West who say they are retired but still find their way back into the profession.

Ours is an industry that allows for longevity and I have taken advantage of it. What are your thoughts on domestic violence? These days many women come out, talking of abuse in marriage. I think I’m very happy more women are coming out to talk about it. It is important their partners must give themselves space. Once the violence starts, give yourself space! I think it is the most spirit destroying action one can put on their lover. And it doesn’t only happen to women. It happens to men as well. I think it is sad that any relationship gets to that point where you need to break the spirit. But then, is there anything like a woman provoking a man to hitting her? I think in relationships especially when we are angry with each other, I think lovers go for the jugular when they are angry. I know I do. (Laughs).I think it’s important to understand when you are getting to that point where you understand that you’ve gotten to the thresh hold. Like sometimes when I counsel young people, I say there is a role that you recognize, that if I push anything further, we’re going to be in trouble. When you hear that, when you feel it, it’s in the eyes, you can’t hide it. Each person, waka! There is also the violence that people don’t associate to domestic violence and that is the emotional violence. Emotional violence is the violence that is so deadly because you don’t see it. It damages the person psychologically; I think the onus is on those who love the person. To let them see it and be aware of it. Marriage is not do or die affair. The Nigerian government has, through the Minister of Mines and Steel Development, Kayode Fayemi, been mediating in a multi-million deal that apparently violates a Supreme Court ruling, PREMIUM TIMES has learnt.

The deal is to get a Nigerian-American firm, BFI Group, to surrender to a Russian firm, UC RUSAL, its win of the 2004 bid for the multi-billion Aluminium Smelter Company of Nigeria (ALSCON).

BFIG has, however, rejected a $35 million offer to forfeit its legal rights after meetings by all parties.

The firm also communicated its position to both the Bureau for Public Enterprises, BPE and the National Council on Privatization (NCP).

Its Chairman/Chief Executive, Reuben Jaja, accused Mr. Fayemi of compromising his office by "continuously jumping in bed with the Russians to subvert rule of law, in defiance of two subsisting Supreme Court rulings" pending federal government's implementation of the apex court's ruling on the matter.

The spokesperson to the minister, Yinka Oyebode, in response to a PREMIUM TIMES inquiry on Thursday, not only denied knowledge of the deal, but also exonerated his boss.

"I don't think my 'Oga' will be part of that kind of deal," Mr. Oyebode said on telephone. "The much interest I know he has is to resolve this issue. I don't think he will sit down with anybody to ask anybody to pay off anybody or stuff like that. This idea of somebody offering anybody money, I don't think he will be involved in it."

He, however, said he would not comment further, as the minister was outside the country attending the United Nations General Assembly in New York.

PREMIUM TIMES also sent emails to both the minister's official and private mails as well as text messages to his known telephone lines requesting his reaction.

He was yet to respond to any of the messages at the time of publishing this story.

HISTORY

In 2004, UC RUSAL had lost out in the bid to acquire ALSCON after it was disqualified by the NCP, for violating bid guidelines.

Although BFIG was later declared the winner of the bid with a $410 million offer, the BPE later cancelled the results in controversial circumstances.

BPE later reinstated UC RUSAL and handed over the plant to it in 2006 on the orders of then President, Olusegun Obasanjo, triggering a protracted legal battle that dragged till July 6, 2012 when the Supreme Court ruled in favour of BFIG as the recognised winner of the bid and owner of ALSCON.

On July 11, 2016, the apex court reaffirmed its ruling through a unanimous verdict dismissing for lack of merit an application by UC RUSAL on November 4, 2015, seeking a review In each of the two separate rulings, the Supreme Court ordered the federal government, through its agencies - BPE and NCP, to invite BFIG and negotiate a mutually agreed share purchase agreement (SPA), with a view to handing over ALSCON to the rightful winner.

Curiously, in April 2017, in apparent defiance of the Supreme Court directives, Mr. Fayemi visited ALSCON and was received by UC RUSAL's managing director, Dimitriy Zaviyalov, whom he promised to work with to reactivate the plant.

During the visit, the minister also assured the Russians of the federal government's commitment to "encourage the Supreme Court to expedite action on the ruling," and to "free the complex of any encumbrances," a comment that suggested Mr. Fayemi is unaware of the fact that the apex court already ruled twice on the matter.

Following the visit, Mr. Jaja accused the minister of perpetrating illegality by "contemptuously romancing with UC RUSAL on a matter the Supreme Court had already ruled on two occasions."

THE NEGOTATIONS

However, ahead of the first meeting of the reconstituted NCP scheduled for September 26 in Abuja, Mr. Jaja has again accused Mr. Fayemi of being the unseen hand behind UC RUSAL's latest clandestine plot to hijack the ALSCON ownership in defiance of rule of law and subsisting Supreme Court orders in favour of BFIG.

To get BFIG to accept to participate in the out-of-court settlement deal, PREMIUM TIMES investigations indicate, Mr. Fayemi reportedly asked Wole Olanipekun, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, whom he believed could influence BFIG, to be involved in the negotiations.

Mr. Olanipekun has been a long-standing counsel to the consortium throughout its legal tussle to reclaim ALSCON.

Consequently, the minister, along with BPE Director-General, Alex Okoh, and other officials, held a meeting on August 21 with UC RUSAL agents, Danba & Associates Limited, led by its Chairman/CEO, Saadina Dantata, to persuade BFIG to accept an offer to relinquish its rights to Alscon as guaranteed by the Supreme Court ruling of July 6, 2012.

Earlier, UC RUSAL had written to BPE to confirm its appointment of Mr. Dantata as its representative and leader of delegation for negotiations in the disputes over the ownership of ALSCON.

It was gathered that at a meeting brokered by Mr. Fayemi and attended by BPE DG, an initial $30 million offer was tabled by Mr. Dantata on behalf of UC RUSAL payable to BFIG over 20 years, after agreeing to sign off all settlement agreements to terminate all outstanding legal cases in court in relation to the deal to acquire ALSCON.

A source close to the meeting said BFIG officials had made their stance known clearly that they were not interested in the offer, insisting that the minister should rather advise the federal government to uphold the rule of law by implementing the pending Supreme Court orders in their favour.Also, the company (BFIG) in turn offered to refund to UC RUSAL the $130 million the Russians said they paid to BPE when ALSCON was handed over to them in 2006.

The source, who asked not to be named, because of the sensitivity of the matter, said the Russians rejected the proposal and demanded that BFIG paid to them additional $550 million instead.

The source said Mr. Fayemi was so incensed with BFIG's rejection of the offer that he threatened to invoke government's powers to revoke the entire ALSCON sale transaction if by the next meeting the company refused to change its mind.

During a follow-up meeting on August 28, 2017, UC RUSAL's representative was said to have made an adjusted final offer of $35 million, consisting $20 million initial payment, plus another $10 million spread over 20 years, on the same conditions "in the spirit of an amicable settlement."

Although BFIG officials were said to have been absent, it was gathered that the outcome of the meeting was later sent to BFIG through BPE on September 13, 2017.

But, in a written formal response dated September 18, 2017 and addressed to the BPE Director-General, a copy of which was obtained exclusively by PREMIUM TIMES, BFIG reaffirmed its earlier rejection of the offer by UC RUSAL representatives.

The company described the offer as not only insulting and denigrating, but also an attempt to lure it into becoming complicit in a violation of the U.S. anti-corruption law.

"We continuously maintain the belief that our acceptance of the offer can be interpreted as our direct or indirect assistance for a person to secure an improper advantage in a business transaction," BFIG General Counsel, Jimmie Williams, said in the letter.

"This acceptance (means) our relinquishment of the binding 6 July 2012 Supreme Court judgment and the discarding of our legal rights, can be viewed as making us complicit in a violation of the United States Foreign Corrupt Practices Act of 1977, 15 U.S.C," he added.

Copies of the response, which were sent to both the Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo, who is the NCP Chairman, and Mr. Fayemi, reiterated BFIG's readiness and willingness to commence the initial takeover inspection of ALSCON aborted unilaterally at the last minute by BPE in 2012.The inspection visit approved by the NCP at its sixth meeting in November 2012 was part of the process to finalise the mutually agreed SPA towards the takeover of ALSCON.

The visit was to enable BFIG conduct a complete site, engineering, technical, environmental, management and financial review of ALSCON to determine the final price following the Supreme Court ruling.

A senior official in BPE, who is familiar with the ALSCON sale controversy, said the rejection of the latest deal by BFIG was a major blow to the scheming by "a shadowy interest group angling to hijack the ALSCON sale."

The group is said to have consistently advised the federal government to explore other ways of resolving the ownership impasse in ALSCON outside the rulings of the Supreme Court which ordered that the plant be handed over to BFIG.

The outcome of the failed deal, which the official said was part of the scheming, was expected to be presented by Mr. Fayemi at the NCP meeting scheduled for Tuesday ostensibly as a way of resolving the lingering ALSCON sale logjam.

All the officials linked to the failed deal refused to respond to calls by PREMIUM TIMES on Friday seeking their reactions.

Mr. Dantata of Danba Associates did not answer or return calls to his telephones, while a text message was not responded to. Equally, an email to the firm's official email addressinfo@danbanigeria.com returned undelivered.

An email to Elena Morenko, Head of International Communications, UC RUSAL, seeking confirmation of the deal and the appointment of Mr. Dantata as the company's representative, was not responded to as at the time of publishing this report.

Besides, Mr. Okoh of BPE neither answered calls to his telephone nor responded to a text message and email sent to him.

The NCP meeting will coincide with the date set by the Federal High Court, Abuja for the delivery of judgment in a $2.8 billion suit filed in 2013 by BFIG against UC RUSAL for its alleged undue interference and conspiracy to frustrate its acquisition of ALSCON.BFIG REACTS

When PREMIUM TIMES sought BFIG's reaction on why it rejected the $35 million offer by UC RUSAL, Mr. Jaja said, apart from its illegality, acting otherwise would have portrayed the consortium as "a bunch of greedy, unserious and hungry people who do not know what they want."

"How would anybody in his right senses think BFIG would invest billions of dollars of private resources in an attempt to acquire ALSCON and use to contribute to the development of the impoverished Niger Delta people, only for it to be subjected to over 13 years of legal battles traversing all levels of courts in Nigeria and abroad, then accept to trade all that off for a mess of $35 million?" Mr. Jaja asked.

Apart from the inherent corruption and travesty of justice, Mr. Jaja said, by refusing to uphold the two pending Supreme Court rulings on ALSCON, the federal government and some of its officials have given themselves away as economic saboteurs and "part of the grand conspiracy with foreign collaborators against the interest of the Niger Delta people."

A 2011 financial report on ALSCON prepared by KPMG had revealed massive asset stripping of the plant allegedly perpetrated by UC RUSAL since 2006 when the plant was handed over to it by BPE.

The report showed how the $3.2 billion plant, valued at over $1.1 billion in 2004 when the bid was held, and $1.03 billion when UC RUSAL took over in 2006, dropped in asset value to less than $73 million by 2012 when the Supreme Court sacked the Russians from the plant.

Edinson Cavani has turned down a €1million bonus in exchange for conceding Paris Saint-Germain’s penalties to Neymar, according to El Pais.

Cavani would receive the bonus for finishing the season as Ligue 1’s top goalscorer.

However, PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi, has reportedly offered to pay out that sum, whether or not he finishes atop the scoring charts. Only on the condition that he surrenders penalty duties to his Brazilian team-mate.

*YOUR HARVEST IS SURE .*

_*He that goeth forth and weepeth, bearing precious seed, shall doubtless come again with rejoicing, bringing his sheaves with him (Psalm 126:6).*_

Oftentimes, we come across people who put so much effort and resources into working for the Lord, but after a while they begin to wonder, “What would be my reward or gain for all these efforts?”

Now, the Word of God is clear: God is always the last giver. No one can ever out-give Him. Therefore, be encouraged and don’t despair, for the Bible says, _*“…God is not unrighteous to forget your work and labour of love, which ye have shewed toward his name, in that ye have ministered to the saints, and do minister”*_ (Hebrews 6:10).

Our opening verse puts it succinctly: _*“He that goeth forth and weepeth, bearing precious seed, shall doubtless come again with rejoicing, bringing his sheaves with him.”*_ What this means is that your harvest is sure; it’ll happen without fail. A sheave is a bundle of stalk or ears of grain that you bind together after they’re cut. They’re bound together for transportation or for storage. It’s sometimes used as a term to refer to a package of so many things put together. But in our theme verse, it refers to some form of harvest from your giving, and this isn’t just about money.

It’s important to know, as a child of God, that you can get your harvest anytime you choose; you can make it happen anytime you want. Genesis 8:22 says, _*“While the earth remaineth, seedtime and harvest, and cold and heat, and summer and winter, and day and night shall not cease.”*_ This means there’s no definite time for the harvest. “Seedtime and harvest” means harvest is anytime. Though there be seedtime (a time of sowing), you can call forth the harvest anytime! You might as well consider today your day of harvest, your day of blessings! Praise God!

Your harvest ought to come in ways that are supernatural. For example, the Bible says Isaac sowed during the time of famine—a time when it was naturally impossible for harvest—yet he received in the same year a hundredfold (Genesis 26:12-13).

We can determine and make our harvest happen when we want it. This is because we function in the Name of Jesus. Nonetheless, there’s also a need of patience (Hebrews 10:36), for he that believes does not make haste (Isaiah 28:16).

*Dear Father, I adore you for the opportunities to sow and be a blessing through giving, and for the privilege to call forth my harvest. My seeds and labour of love are sanctified by your Spirit to produce a multiplied harvest of blessings for me in my ministry, finances, family, and all areas of life, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.*

Professor Itse Sagay (SAN), Presidential Advisory Committee Against Corruption (PACAC) chairman, is as tough as they come. An activist to the core, he is frank and down-to-earth and for this, he has incurred the Senate’s wrath. But he is not perturbed. He tells Joseph Jibueze, in this interview, that he is always ready for the Senate. Sagay also speaks on corruption in the judiciary, restructuring, former Petroleum Resource Minister Mrs Diezani Alison-Madueke and sundry issues.

THE Senators accused you of making hate speeches and using abusive language against them. Have you apologised to them?

On the contrary, they should apologise to me, because if you saw their statement, if I had not become thick-skinned because of my two-year chairmanship of this committee, I’d have been very upset. I’m a bit thick-skinned now. I’ve been insulted left, right and centre. Even those that I’m hoping would benefit from our work young ones whose patrimony is being wasted away some of them are rented to insult us. So, there was nothing they (Senators) didn’t say about me that I was ranting, I was over-excited, I talk anyhow, there’s no name they didn’t call me. I said two things. One, that they’re not committed to Nigeria, that they’re there for themselves alone and simply consuming all the national assets and leaving poor Nigerians to waste away and the country under-developed. And I provided the figures. I know that worse exists, which has not been detected. I didn’t say what the minority leader, majority leader, deputy Senate president and Senate president get as extras. They run into hundreds of millions. What I said at that lecture is a tip of the iceberg. We’re going to do further thorough research on this matter, and we’re still going to come out with figures. What we’re aiming for is for the National Assembly to admit that they’re frittering away our national assets and funds and therefore preventing them from being used for the other vital sectors, to create more employment, to fix our infrastructure. If you recall, the former Governor of Central Bank said they were consuming virtually one quarter, 25 per cent of our budget. They didn’t deny it.

There’s one more thing I need to stress. If you look at the allowances, Nigerians need to ask themselves questions. Should we be the ones clothing Senators? Should my tax be used in hanging Agbada on a Senator? The press has not taken it up, but this is serious. How many times have government provided clothes for you, and yet you’re clothed? But these men who are overpaid, who are absorbing the largest share of our resources are still asking us to clothe them, as if they arrived in Abuja naked. It’s not acceptable. These same people are collecting huge sums, claiming that they’re suffering hardship by doing their job. If you go to the Senate chambers, you will see the luxurious furnishing, fully air-conditioned; you’ll see staff running around, attending to every little thing they need, serving them, hand and foot that is hardship. What about the man who is earning N18,000 a month, who’s carrying machinery, working in a factory, cutting grass on the road, cleaning the roads, sweating with hard labour. Nobody is paying them hardship allowance. But the people are paid hardship allowance for living in tremendous luxury. They’re claiming utility allowance. In other words, if we don’t give them money, they don’t have cutlery, tablecloth, plates and saucepans. We have to provide those for them. The list goes on. It is criminal. It is unconscionable. It is wicked for people who are so highly privileged, who are the wealthiest people in the country to still be sucking our blood dry by collecting these things which they don’t need and depriving others of them.Do you agree with suggestions that we should do away with the bi-cameral legislature to save cost?

In fact I was just coming to that. If we’re going to keep the bi-cameral type of National Assembly, we must do something. And that is: We must make it part time, as we had in the First Republic. They would legislate for two months, and then everybody would go back. To save this country from this tremendous cost that is bending our back, we need to turn the National Assembly into part time operation, so that any member who is there is someone comfortably having a profession somewhere else. In those days, teachers, professors, local government chairmen, emirs and so forth, they all came. They were only paid sitting allowance and were housed. They had their professions. They were not looters who had come to make a fortune in the National Assembly. We must go back to that, make it part time and pay them only sitting allowances.

The Senate said you did not get your facts right in claiming they have not passed any bill to aid the anti-corruption war. Is that so?
There’s passing and there’s passing. Let’s take the Financial Intelligence Agency Bill as an example. The bill they passed is just pure vendetta. There are other financial intelligence unit that are located within other anti-corruption agencies all over the world. What is important is the level of their independence within where they’re located. But these people want to take it out of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) because they want to smack the Acting Chairman Ibrahim Magu in the eye. That’s all. So I don’t count that as an achievement. When you do something based on hatred, it’s not an achievement.

What about the Whistleblower Bill which they passed?

We were already operating the Whistle-blower policy before it went to them. And I’m not aware that the Bill has been signed into law. But, the policy was already in operation.

They also said they passed the Mutual Legal Assistance in Criminal Matters Bill, contrary to your claim…

I am even surprised government took that bill to the National Assembly. If we have stolen property abroad, mutual legal assistance enables that government to cooperate with us for the return of our assets. It gives us access to properties located within foreign territories. You don’t need legislation for that. It’s just something between two heads of state.

So, which laws were you referring to?

The Special Criminal Court Bill, which will create a court specifically for cases on corruption, narcotics, kidnapping, with main emphasis on corruption cases. They are sitting on that.Is that all?

There is the Proceeds of Crime Bill, which automatically will put anybody whose assets is seized on the defence, to prove ownership. The burden of proof will be reversed. He has to establish that he’s the owner. There are little clauses under various laws but we want to put them under one head where a prosecutor can zero in and use it. They have not passed that.

Let’s move to the issue of loss of high profile cases. What is being done to reverse this trend?

A lot is being done. There is a manual for prosecution. We noticed the weaknesses in the existing system. It guides the anti-corruption agencies in prosecuting cases to be effective, successful and fast. It proposes that it is not an investigator alone who should be involved in investigation. It must involve a potential prosecutor, because it is the lawyer who knows the ingredients that constitute the offence. So, if the policeman is veering off into irrelevant things, he can stop him and say no. Second, there is a committee made up of top members of the anti-corruption agency, before whom a progress report is brought, who would then look at what has been brought, the evidence that has been found and look at the offence. So there’s a vetting committee. By the time an investigation report passes through the prosecutor who is working with the investigator, and then passes through a committee made up of about five or six people who are professionals in various areas including law, then there is likelihood that what will come before the court will be something substantive.

Special Assistant to the President on Prosecution Mr Okoi Obono-Obla recently said some cases he filed at the Supreme Court were yet to be heard nearly 10 years after. Have you had a similar experience?

He’s very right. The cases before the Supreme Court are a cause of major frustration. I have a private case which has been sitting there. The registrar told us: ‘For the next five years you won’t hear anything’. So it’s a very major problem. I don’t blame the Supreme Court too much because under our present procedural system, anything goes to the Supreme Court, anything interlocutory matters that will still come back to the High Court, which should have been disposed of finally. So they’re overloaded. We need to come together, the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN) and others, first to amend the Constitution, so that we totally eliminate interlocutory matters. Second, there is no need for commercial cases to go to the Supreme Court. They can be resolved at the Court of Appeal level where you have three justices. Leave constitutional cases, criminal cases, things concerning administration of government, human rights just about five things for the Supreme Court.

Do you support the idea of regional Supreme Courts?We had that before. The Western region and the western state had a Western Court of Appeal, but when they gave their judgment, they still went to the Supreme Court. If you’re going to have that, then it has to be made in such a way that appeals end there. So it’s true (that cases last up to 10 years), but it’s not the fault of the Supreme Court.

Some have called for the reform of the National Judicial Council (NJC), saying the CJN should not be NJC chairman to prevent conflict of interest. What is your take?

I think that retired justices should be introduced into the system. I feel that the head of the NJC should be a retired judge. Why? Because they will not have an axe to grind. There are dangers of self-interest and lack of objectivity in some of the activities of the NJC. If you see some of the judges being prosecuted now, their cases went before the NJC, and they said they didn’t find them liable, they should go back. So there’s a lot of esprit de corps, lack of objectivity, protection of wrong self interests. Again, Nigeria is a very difficult country. Not all retired judges are good. I know of some retired judges whose job is to carry bribe, because the people who are there now are their junior colleagues, so they go and influence them with money from Senior Advocates. In Nigeria, we have not yet established a system of checking the background and records of people before appointing them. We’re not sufficiently ruthless in saying: ‘No, you’re unfit. Period.’ It doesn’t matter that you’ve not been found guilty. The fact that there is suspicion against you is sufficient. A judge, like Caesar’s wife, must be above suspicion. He absolutely has to be above suspicion. There must not be a breath of misconduct about him. If that happens, certainly he’s not fit to hold an important position.

The Senate has refused to confirm Acting EFCC chairman. For how long can Magu remain in acting capacity?

Indefinitely. The Senate, in my view, doesn’t even have jurisdiction in this matter. It is the President who has jurisdiction because of Section 171 of the Constitution where he is empowered to appoint him directly as chairman. This government is being a bit too careful, gentle, not wanting to ruffle feathers. It’s okay. Maybe that’s why they’re politicians and in government. If people like me who are not politicians were there, these people (Senators) would have heard a different message. I’d have rammed things through and damned them to go and do whatever they like, and let’s see who would come on top, because I believe that ultimately, righteousness, a good cause, a belief in principle will prevail. We’re dealing with people who are undergoing all sorts of investigations; they cannot face a righteous man. So, it’s a kind, gentle government, and I think they’re lucky that people like me are not there.

Some people have wondered: What exactly does PACAC do?

We have done a lot workshops, not only for prosecutors, but for judges in all the zones. We’ve taken them through the provisions of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act, how to tackle corruption cases. For Justices of the Court of Appeal and Supreme Court, we even brought people from abroad, so they would not say it’s infradig for locals to be taking them through a workshop. We brought people from England, from Canada, the Chief Judge of Ghana, those who are experienced in handling corruption cases. It was a very hot, intensive session. We have prepared several manuals. PACAC is an advisory body, a sort of think-tank. We do our workshops, our symposia; we do research and make them available to government with recommendations of what they should do. We’re still going to continue to do that even though it’s not everything that we recommended that has been carried out. We’re sometimes disappointed. They have not really rejected anything out of hand. It’s like: ‘Well, this is not the time.’ That sort of thing.

Courts are resuming for the new legal year. What are your expectation We are concerned about the judiciary. Without the judiciary, let us kiss the anti-corruption war goodbye. We must have a committed judiciary; otherwise they will keep messing up any case that comes. It’s so easy to give a reason, which will appear to be reasonable, and the public will say oh, the anti-corruption agencies have not done their homework. It’s not so. Quite a number of the judges are deliberately taking decisions which I’d say indicate their hostility to the anti-corruption war. There are judges who are hostile. There are judges who in fact interfere when such cases are going on; using their position to ensure that government loses. Government is aware of all this. They’re aware of so many things. It’s just as well that some of us are not in a position to take decisions. People who should be stopped are slipping through and still being relevant when in fact they should be pushed aside into retirement where they will not interfere in the anti-corruption struggle. I want particularly the CJN who is the leader of the judiciary to study his men very carefully. There are reports on these judges, some by the Department of State Services (DSS) and from other sources. He knows a lot of what is happening. I feel that judges who are showing they are not committed to the eradication of corruption should be eased out of the system.

Why is PACAC pushing for special courts?

If we could only get the National Assembly to pass the Criminal Court Bill to become an Act, the court will be set up in such a way that only selected judges with established reputation, integrity, honour and honesty established, not guess work, from record only they would be appointed judges of the court. We know them. There are some of them, well known, and they will be the only ones to man the court. Those are the only ones you cannot approach. These are people with the spirit of Eso, Aniagolu, Oputa. There are still young judges who have that spirit. We know them. We’ll select them. They’ll be put there. You dare not carry money to their chambers. You will come out in chains if you do it. We have people like that. We want that bill to be passed so they can operate on that basis. Those are some of the changes we want.

There have been so many recoveries from former Petroleum Minister Mrs Diezani Alison-Madueke. What is being done towards extraditing her?

So many recoveries have been made half of our budget. What is recovered is just a tip of the iceberg. She’ll come back eventually, but already the British are investigating her for alleged money laundering. She allegedly has many buildings in Britain. She has bank accounts. She’s being investigated. I don’t think they’re going to release her, because they’ll have the first go. After she has been tried, then we can look at what we have against her. If it’s not the same thing for which she is tried there, we can still try her here on her return. I don’t see the need for a hurry to rush her down here. The British are compiling evidence. I know that some evidence from here have been sent there to support what the British are doing, because basically it is a case of money laundering transferring money to Britain to launder by building houses, buying furniture, putting them in bank accounts and so on. If you know the British, you will know that any attempt to bring her before they’ve done their own will not be possible.

What is your view on calls for restructuring?I am a strong supporter of restructuring. Nigeria is a very difficult country, that’s why there are different views on restructuring. Left to me, I’ll say we should go back to the 1963 Constitution and then modify it to suit the present circumstances. What we want to create are viable federating units. The only viable one in Nigeria now is Lagos. All the others are not viable.

Should states be collapsed?

It’s not very realistic to say states should be collapsed, because people who have established interests, whose whole life is oriented towards state activity, will object. Some people are even saying we should have 18 more states, which is a very laughable idea. So, I won’t insist that you should collapse states completely, but I think we can reduce what they’re doing, transfer more to the regional government, reduce public service, cut down on cost, and let them do some basic things which will give some emotional satisfaction to those in favour of states.

Are you calling for some kind of regional authority?

O yes. There will be election and a leader will emerge. Think of how it used to be when we had four regions. I’m not saying it must be four now. It was the regions that supported the Federal Government. Every region contributed 20 per cent of its earnings to the Federal Government. It kept 50 per cent for itself. The remaining 30 per cent went into a distributable pool meant for most disadvantaged regions. So the North was the most disadvantaged because of the size and the resources could not cope, so they were getting 41 per cent of that 30 per cent contributed by all regions. Eastern region got almost 30 per cent. Then West got about 18 per cent because it was well endowed. And then Midwest got six per cent. That’s why when the Northerners are so frightened of restructuring, I say No. There’s nothing to be afraid of. There’s still going to be a pool that will support you against difficulties. But it’ll not be enough to make you do nothing as you’re doing now, just going cap in hand to collect money every month from Abuja, spend it, go back the next month. That will end. There’ll be support, but you also have to be productive. And there’ll be competition, because there will be larger entities. There was a lot of competition in those days. The Western region introduced free education, everyone introduced it. It introduced television, everyone introduced it. It built a stadium, everybody built stadia. Then they all competed and had universities. And we were growing fast, faster than Singapore and all these other places at that time. So, we could have regions and still leave some limited power to the states to take of those who have some interests in those states. Otherwise, I’m being realistic, the debate will be very hard if we say ‘abolish all states’.

What do you make of the declaration of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) as a terrorist organisation?

Whilst I’m not sure of the legal parameters of that declaration, in practice, yes. If you look at it, we’re very lucky that this thing did not get out of hand. They (IPOB) were coming in their thousands, establishing road blocks, and all that. If that is allowed, then the country is finished. Then they burned down a police station, killed a policeman. For Christ’s sake, even if you want Biafra, you don’t have to be violent. If you look at the words that Kanu uses on the social media, how he has described our President and the rest of us as living in a zoo abusive, violent, intemperate words all those in my view constitute in totality acts of terrorism in which they can push undiscerning youths into rage and violence which can be destructive. I just thank God that the North is showing some maturity and some sense of restraint while this thing is being curbed. But we really need to curb IPOB otherwise they will turn this country into a tinderbox.

The Senate has asked the President to call you to order. The All Progressives Congress (APC) also cautioned you against comments capable of creating tension between the executive and the legislature. So, if the President asks you to stop speaking, will you comply?

Yes, he is my employer. If he tells me to stop talking, I’ll stop talking. But I have certain rights too that I can exercise in addition to that, because I’m not going to be in a position where I am impotent. So, I must obey him, but I can go beyond that and obey myself too. That’s it. As for the leadership of the APC, I think they are the most unprincipled group of people. They are lily-livered, weak, and cannot run any organisation. The whole party is collapsing under them. They cannot control anybody. Because they cannot control anybody, they’re now in fact encouraging and accepting ‘rogues’. When I say rogues, I don’t mean stealing. In literature, when you say someone is a rogue elephant, it means people who are running riot and destroying the party. They’re pampering them, saying: ‘Let’s not annoy them too much’, but they’re destroying the APC house. So, I think the APC leadership is weak, is too compromising and is certainly a failure as far as I’m concerned.

EX-NICON Airways workers filed bankruptcy suit against Barrister Jimoh Ibrahim has issued a Bankruptcy Notice on Chief Barr Jimoh Ibrahim upon a petition for bankruptcy presented by Mr. Henry Iwelumo, Mr. Lukman Kolawole, Mr. George Omoniyi and Mrs. Eunice Odey for themselves and on behalf of creditors and representing all members of staff of NICON airways ltd, whose salaries and allowances have not been paid by the defendant since May 2007.
The Bankruptcy Notice issued on 22nd day of August 2017 was signed on behalf of the Chief Registrar of the Court
A copy of the Petition filed at registry of Federal High Court Lagos and sighted by our correspondent revealed that on 16th September 2013, the National Industrial Court Abuja in Suit No NICON/LA/192/2011 awarded the judgment sum of One Billion Five Hundred and Forty-Five Million, Four Hundred and twelve thousand one hundred and thirty-four naira (N1, 545, 412,134) in favour of Ex-staff of NICON Airways against Bar. Jimoh Ibrahim.
Justice Esowe of the National Industry Court in the Judgment above, lifted the veil of corporate liability of NICON Airways and held Barr. Jimoh Ibrahim personally liable for fraud against the ex-staff of NICON Airways and directed him to pay the arrears of salaries and all deductions on their salaries which never remitted for their pensions.
The Court held that gone are the days where people under corporate personality lure workers to work for them and ran away with their salaries and entitlements on the guise that it is the company that owes them.
Barr. Jimoh Ibrahim through his lawyer, Bolaji Ayorinde filed an appeal against the Judgment but the appeal was dismissed on the 23rd day of May 2017 by Honourable Justice E. N Agbakoba who insisted that her court cannot be used as engine of fraud and therefore directed that Jimoh must pay the workers.
The workers had earlier tried to attach the shares of Jimoh Ibrahim at Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC), but it was discovered the shares were in the names of his children.
A copy of such claim was filed by his lawyer at the National Industrial Court claiming that Jimoh Ibrahim no longer has shares in NICON Luxury Services Ltd, Nicon Group of Companies Plc, Global Fleet Building Limited, Global Fleet Oil and Gas Limited, Maiden Hotel Limited, Global Fleet Industries Limited and Nicon Investment Limited Etc.
The workers have now petitioned the Federal High Court for a Receiving Order against Chief (Dr.) Jimoh Ibrahim and empower the workers to take over his business interest in all companies connected to him.  The workers are asking for the following prayers.
An order declaring the debtor, Chief (Dr.) Jimoh Ibrahim, Bankrupt.
Consequential orders as follows: Empowering the Creditors to sell the Debtor’s properties (be it landed or chattels) wherever situate and/or found either by private treaty or by public auction to be published in two widely read Nigerian National Daily or Nationally Circulated Newspapers.
An Order granting leave to the Creditors to appropriate or otherwise utilize the investments, shares or other interests of the Debtor in Global Fleet Oil & Gas Ltd., NICON GROUP and any other Company(ies)/Corporate entity(ies) in Nigeria, in partial or full satisfaction of the Debt due.
An Order permitting /allowing the Creditors to apply the proceeds from the sale of the Debtor’s properties, Chattels, choses in action and/or interest towards liquidation his indebtedness to the Creditor/Petitioner.
While Jimoh may have survived similar application through technicalities employed by his lawyers, the ex-workers believe that the day of reckoning has come and the courts are now emboldened to dispense justice without fear or favour.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: It is not where a man sits in life that matters but what sits inside him.

In my walk with God and in the privilege of serving Him, I have discovered that one of the causes of the decay in our generation is the craving for recognition.

Many people want to be accorded recognition for what they are. For instance, in occasions where such people are not given the front or high seat where all eyes can see them, they become annoyed, and they can do that even in church. They have forgotten to realise that it is not where a man sits in life that matters but what sits inside him.

A true servant will not behave like that; a true servant’s disposition is that of humility. A true servant is unassuming.

Sometime ago, I went to a big church and sat at the back row. While the pastor was preaching, he noticed my presence and sent an usher to bring me up to the altar where other ministers of the gospel were seated. I told the usher that I wanted to sit at the back row but the pastor refused and said that if I sat there, he would stop the message.

Beloved, I counsel you to live the kind of life David lived: a life that does not seek or struggle for reputation with men. When God saw these qualities in him, God concluded that he was the kind of man He was looking for.

Remember this: It is not where a man sits in life that matters but what sits inside him.

Nigeria has demanded the reform of the Bretton Wood Institutions to make them responsive to the needs of developing countries and also reflect the realities of the 21st century.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama, stated this at the 41st Ministerial Meeting of the Group of 77 plus China (G77+China) on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly.

The G77 is a coalition of developing nations at the UN that promotes its members' collective economic interests and create an enhanced joint negotiating capacity in the UN.

The Bretton Woods Institutions are the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund (IMF), established at a meeting of 43 countries in Bretton Woods, New Hampshire, USA in 1944.

Mr. Onyeama commended the G77 for its role at shaping global discourse on the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through a collective and robust engagement.

World Bank and IMF are seen as wielding tremendous power and influence, but exclude the voices of developing countries most adversely affected by financial and trade policies."Equally important in the international development strategy is the need for a reform of the governance structure of the Bretton Wood Institutions.

"Not only should they be made more transparent, consultative and inclusive but also they should be more responsive and appreciative of the peculiar needs of developing countries.

"In consonance with the principle of ownership, the greater infusion of developing countries in the governance structure of Bretton Wood Institutions would undoubtedly allow them to take advantage of the local knowledge that developing countries can bring to the work of the institutions," he said.

Mr. Onyeama said the group, to which all the African countries are members, is a formidable group within the international system.

"We echo one another in our conception, aspirations and desire for a world that is just, fair, inclusive and tolerant.

"The G77 should not relent in its demand for a more equitable international trading system as trade is an essential tool for economic development.

"It is, therefore, imperative that the global community should, as a matter of urgency and fairness, address factors responsible for trade imbalance between the North and South.

"Such as the protectionist measures and barriers to trade policies of developed countries. Nigeria joins others to underscore the necessity for the timely conclusion of the DOHA Round of multilateral trade negotiation."

Mr. Onyeama said Nigeria was pleased with the role of the G77 at curbing illicit financial flows and the enhancement of asset recovery.

A 15-year-old suspect has been arrested by cops in London on suspicion of grievous bodily harm following an acid attack incident which occurred in Stratford, the eastern part of the capital city.

No less than six people who are now receiving treatment, were injured in that attack.

Reports say the incident played out following an “altercation” between two groups of males where the noxious substance was thrown prompting police to arrive the scene of the incident after a distress call.

Ambulance crews treated six males at the scene for their injuries, and three of them were taken to hospital.

Those reported injured were believed to be in a number of different locations, sparking initial fears that people had been sprayed at random.

However, Ch Supt Ade Adelekan of the Met Police said: “I would like to be very clear concerning this incident.

“What initially may have been perceived as a number of random attacks has, on closer inspection, been found to be one incident involving two groups of males.”
No-one suffered life-threatening or life-changing injuries.

Recall that in the month of July this year, two teenagers suspected of throwing acid at several victims across east London which left their victims with facial burns were also arrested.

The worrying spate of acid attacks in London has also forced scores of acid attack survivors to demand harsher punishment for attackers and tougher measures to buy corrosive substances.

The United States Government has said it does not consider the Indigenous People of Biafra a terrorist organisation.

Last week, the Federal High Court in Abuja gave a judicial backing the executive order of President Muhammadu Buhari, outlawing the group and its activities in the country.

The court granted the order to proscribe the group on Wednesday.

It declared that the activities of the group constituted acts of terrorism.

The Federal Government also accused France and the United Kingdom of aiding IPOB activities.

The spokesman for the American Embassy in Nigeria, Russell Brooks, told SUNDAY PUNCH on Friday that the US government does not view IPOB as a terrorist group.

He said this in response to our correspondent’s email which asked if the United States sees IPOB as a terrorist organisation.
Brooks stated further that the US was committed to Nigeria’s unity and would support a peaceful resolution of any crisis in the country.

National Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and former governor of Lagos State, Bola Tinubu, has said Nigerians should not condemn but listen and understand the agitations by the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

He said: “It is a rather curious lapse that a nation with such diversity as ours has not taken the time to give our legal marriage its proper functional underpinning. In other words, we all lined up to call ourselves Nigerian without gathering to discuss what it meant.

“Thus, we inhabit a nation that has not sufficiently defined its governance. We may be defined by political borders and boundaries but we have not glued ourselves to collective purpose and vision. Too many of us are born in Nigeria but not of it.

“Thus, our society is not a collective enterprise as important to each of us as our own personal endeavor. It is but a platform, an arena, to claim whatever one can by whatever means available. In too many ways we resemble a wrestling match instead of the nation we were ‎meant to become.

“Thus, we argue over matters that long ago should have been settled. The longer such fundamental questions fester, the more extreme become the proposed answers.

“Thus, we have people clamoring for secession in one part of the country and the murmur of such a course grows stronger in other sections.

“These other areas resent that some have advocated secession. Blame and recrimination become the political currency. Statesmanship falls in short supply. The dominant urge is to confront instead of reconcile.

“It would be wrong to mistake this for a tempest in a teapot. If not careful, we may be tossed about like a teapot in a tempest.

“Here, I want to plainly state my position. I am a firm believer in Nigeria. I believe this land will become a great nation and a leader among other African nations. We can resolve our dysfunctions in a manner that will make this nation rise as a standard of decency, justice and prosperity for all Nigerians.So many excellent people have devoted themselves, even given their very lives, to give life to this nation. I dare not cast aside their hardy and brave work as if it were nothing. Many things we now enjoy and see as good are due to these people. We have benefited from their labor and sacrifice.

“Being more pragmatic, separating the nation into small pieces resolves nothing and creates additional problems. The world marches toward integration. Europe, America, Asia seek trade and commercial pacts that will make them more integrated markets. Notwithstanding Brexit, the EU grows more integrated in the functions of governance by the day. Thus, while nations more powerful and developed than us seek to pool their wealth and might, some of us seek to whittle this nation into smaller pieces.

“Such a thing would make us more vulnerable to outside influences. We would forfeit our rightful place on the world stage and as a leader of this continent.

“Moreover, not every split solves a problem. The political mentality, either good or bad, that defined a group before the split will remain after the divide. If one is imbued with factionalism, that perspective will remain even when the immediate problem is surmounted. Division will manifest differently, but manifest it will.

“A new factional bigotry will arise to replace the old. The cycle of tension and unrest will take its inexorable toll. Just ask the people of South Sudan if their woes ended when they left Sudan.

“When your heart is geared toward division, you will seek it within a single tribe, even a single family. The gossamer of ethnic unity will be ripped apart by sub-ethnic squabble. An angry man outside his home remains angry inside it as well and a thief steals from both stranger and friend.

“Driven by such a mentality, even someone you once called your brother becomes a nuisance, then a burden, and ultimately your enemy in short order.

“Thus, I oppose talk of break-up and all other exotic political arrangements tantamount to it. That I am a foe of disunity does not mean I have blinded myself to the truth that our nation is in need of great repair.We all see the nation for what it is. Some look further to see the nation for what it is not and they rush to condemn it.

“I choose to see the nation for what it can be and thus seek to nurture and cultivate it so that this Nigeria may bring forth the fullest blossoming of its riches, resources and ingenuity of its diverse people.”

Fresh Fish stew with vegetables (Caribbean Stewed fish altered for my Nigerian palate)
 

Fresh fish stew cooked with vegetables.

This fish stew is so delicious one cannot describe it. If you love like Caribbean stewed fish, then,you'll love this in a finger licking way. I left out a few ingredients that I think my local Nigerian palate will not enjoy. Boiled my fish the Nigerian way before adding unlike the Carribean method of just stir frying fish  along with vegetables. These pieces are large and may not cook through the way we like it here. My boiling before adding is just to ensure that my fish cook well well and I have fish stock to make sauce because definitely, my Nigerian palate will enjoy this with a hot plate of boiled rice. The stew is meant to be served as a meal sha but since I'm not really watching my weight at the moment, that alone without boiled rice won't fill me up. So I got a little bit creative and came up with this delicious pot of Nigerian fresh fish stew cooked with colourful assorted vegetables, with my Naija local flavour in there. This pot of fish stew serves 7.
INGREDIENTS:
2 Scallion ( Spring onion)
1 large Red bell pepper (Tatashey)
1 large Shallot (Onion)
1 large Green pepper
1 large Yellow pepper
1 large Orange pepper
3 Scotch bonnet (Ata rodo pepper)
4 medium sized Tomato fruit
1/2 teaspoon Thyme
1/2 teaspoon Black pepper
3 cups Vegetable oil. You can use less
2 medium sized Fresh fish (Croaker)
2 Seasoning cubes
Salt to taste
3 cups Water to boil the fish. You can add more if you like to make more stock

DIRECTION:

1. First dice and chop washed vegetables, wash and boil fish with salt and onion and set aside.
   
   
2. Stir fry some vegetables (Onion, tomatoes, all the peppers, thyme, black pepper, in oil with seasoning and salt for about 3 minutes in medium heat so they don't burn. Check for taste. Should taste really good at this time already, with delicious aroma filling the whole kitchen.
   
   
3. Next, gently add your already boiled fish and stock, with a wooden spoon, shift vegetables and place fish without stirring or just empty sauteed vegetables into the pot of cooked fish for easy transfer. Cover and leave to simmer for about a minute or less. Check again for taste.
   
   
4. Add the spring onion and immediately turn off the heat, if you can do without crushing the fish, then gently stir and mix. Leave to stand for about 3 minutes, let the different tastes and flavours seep into the fish before serving as a meal or with boiled rice, spaghetti or macaroni.

Manners take you to where your education can't take you, irrespective of your status, money or the "who you know" factor.
This is not meant to hurt anyone or pinpoint on someone for their upbringing. Its a general message targeted to all the parents of today.
* Going to your child's school dressed indecently? Think again.
* Speaking rashly to your child's teacher.
* Cursing, using foul words or swearing in front of your children.
* Using makeup on children.
* Dressing with tight clothes and indecently for children (they loose the sense of their princess hood and may not listen to you in future)
* Your child holds the cup or glassware by the brim and you don't make a correction.
* Your children don't greet and you just feel they will come around one day because they have a mood swing. (You will be blamed for it)
* Your children eat with their mouth opened and you feel they will grow up some day.
* Your children brought home something you did not buy for them and you said nothing. (That is the beginning of stealing)
* They talked back at you and you concluded it's okay since you're a 21st century mummy. (You will hate yourself if they do that outside and they are disciplined)
* They interrupt when you are speaking with another adult and you think they are bold and clever. (It's really bad manners)
* They exercise authority over their nanny and domestic staff and you let them be. (That is bad parenting)
* They say things like "my driver is on his way..."
* I am not an advocate that children should call your domestic staff aunty or brother but, calling them by names when they are not young people is not poise either. The use of Miss, Mr or Mrs will look good on them.
* Your children don't say- 'Thank you' when they have been helped or served something. They don't know how to say "please" when they need someone for help; and you are cool with that. (Bad parenting)
* When your children cannot stand children who are less privileged.
* When they pick their nose with their hands.
* When they don't wash their hands after visiting the washroom.
* When your children take something from the fridge without taking permission. (Bad parenting)
* When your children don't knock on closed doors.
* When your children don't collect  ?? your hands the stuff you brought in as you walk in through the door.
* When your children request for a bribe to carry out their home chores or extra task. (That is disgraceful)
* When your children act like their grandparents are irritating them.
* When your children have not learnt to get up from the chair for the elderly or visitors to sit.
* When your children tells a lot of lies. (You will both cry in the future if such is not put to check)
* When your child asks "who is that?" at a knock on your door instead of "please, who is there."
* When your child is always seated by your visitors when being served drinks etc.
* When your children still point their fingers at other people.
* When your children play and jump around when prayers are going on. (age 4 above).

Don't be a 21st Century parent who cannot correct a child. Train your child in the way of the Lord, so that when he grows up he will not depart from it.

In the verse above, the Apostle Paul wasn’t questioning whether Christ was in the brethren in Rome; rather, he stirred their minds to an important reality. He wanted them to know that Christ in them was a vital reality, and a guarantee of a life of health and vitality. He said if Christ is in you, though your body may be weak and sickly, He’ll vitalize it.

Paul’s conclusion is that when you have the Holy Spirit, you shouldn’t be sick, because your body is vitalized by the same Spirit: _*“...if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken*_ (vitalize, make alive) _*your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you”*_ (Romans 8:11). The work of the Holy Spirit in vitalizing your physical body is in the “now”; it’s not futuristic; it’s not something that will happen when we get to heaven; He works in you now! Glory to God!

The Holy Spirit is the power of God; His presence in you has settled the matter of sickness and weakness forever, for He works and walks in you, to “fix” any anomaly in your physical body. His life in you makes you unconquerable. He’s the One who raised the dead body of Jesus back to life; and now, He lives in you in all of His glory, power and majesty.

Today, it makes no difference how much your physical body may have been ravaged or battered by sickness or disease; what you need is the consciousness of the Healer in you—the Holy Spirit. He in you is your hope to rise and walk again, and live perpetually in divine health.

As an oil and gas expert, he identifies and advises on critical improvements for corporates and governments, and organises the Sustainability in the Extractive Industries (SITEI) Series currently in its 6th year. In this chat, he critically analyses the Oil and Gas industry in Nigeria. Excerpts:

Nigeria’s oil sector is in turmoil. What, in your opinion, could be responsible?

Needless to say, there’s been a crash in global oil prices and the ripple effect is mostly responsible for this seeming turmoil.

Then again, over the last few months, the spate of pipeline bombings has increased and currently costs Nigeria about 1.3 billion barrels of crude oil daily. The resultant shutdowns and shut-ins are of course affecting oil revenue. Recently, Minister of State for Petroleum Resources Ibe Kachikwu disclosed that since January, 1600 cases of pipeline vandalism had been recorded.

Nigeria needs to ramp up daily production by 1.1 million barrels per day to close the gap. Crude oil exports account for about 70 per cent of Nigeria’s revenue and 90 per cent of her foreign exchange earnings. So if pipeline vandalism persists, you can imagine how much impact this would have on the industry and economy.The dilapidated state of our refineries is also a major factor. Despite the huge capital investment to turn them around, no significant improvement has been recorded. The past administration shopped for a $1.6 billion loan to revamp these same four refineries, all to no avail.

This administration seems to be toeing the turnaround path as well. Note that these refineries have seldom been known to function near full capacity, and more money has been spent turning them around compared to their output over the years.

Please explain the JV and PSC options in Oil and Gas industry in Nigeria ?

In existing Joint Venture (JV) arrangements between the NNPC and the International Oil Companies (IOC’s)s, NNPC contributes about 55 per cent of the funding requirement, while the IOC’s make up the outstanding 45 per cent.

Contrastively, the Production Sharing Contract (PSC) is solely funded by the IOC’s, even though the NNPC can participate in the venture as a working interest owner. However, both arrangements come with their setbacks.

The government is leery of JV arrangements due to funding constraints. As you well know, the NNPC has been unable to meet up with its cash call obligations under the JV arrangement due to cash inflow challenges occasioned by the drop in global oil prices and related factors.The result is accumulated cash-call arrears to the tune of about $7 billion at the last count. Naturally, the IOC’s are hedging their bets. They have resorted to selling their JV stakes to local entities. So this option may not be viable.

The PSC arrangement looks like a much better bet since the government is under no funding obligation. Under this arrangement, IOC’s are not refunded their exploration cost or paid royalty if oil is not found in commercial quantities in the course of such projects.

However, this doesn’t look good for national growth. Currently, the number of PSC projects solely funded by the IOC’s is on the increase. Nigeria could do a lot better for itself as one of the largest economies in Africa. I’m sure the government is looking for a win-win, which explains Kachikwu’s proposed Accelerated Upstream Funding model.

How has IOC’s diversification affected the industry?

I would say it is a blessing in disguise. The divestments that we’ve seen have been to indigenous players. So the likes of Aiteo, Oando, Seplat, Nestoil, First Hydrocarbons, Shoreline, Eroton, Amni etc of Nigeria are the winners. And because they are indigenous, they are less likely to have capital flight.

Rather, they are more likely to have indigenous contractors and Nigerians working on those assets.

Lastly and perhaps more importantly, community relations will be at the forefront of local operators. So Nigeria stands to gain in multiple folds from manpower development to reduction in unemployment and other corollary benefits.

Apart from crashing oil price that has prompted cut in field development, IOC’s over time have not made substantial investment, what is responsible for this?

The uncertainty in the market caused by the delayed-passage of the PIB has a major influence on this state of affairs. That notwithstanding, we cannot discount the security situation in the Niger Delta region. IOC’s operating in the Niger Delta region would naturally be wary of making sustainable investments in such an uncertain environment.The surge in oil pipeline vandalism was so high that it had made Nigeria temporarily cede its position to Angola as Africa’s top crude oil producer. This is obviously the result of having about 380,000 barrels of crude oil per day shut-in due to vandalism of the 48-inch sub-sea export line in February this year.

Then again, I’m sure the investment climate has not been favourable for the IOC’s. The NNPC has been unable to honour its cash calls in Joint Venture agreements. As a result, most IOC’s are selling their stakes in JVs to local entities.

What by your estimation is Nigeria losing from IOC’s lack of sustainable investment?

The Nigerian Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (NEITI) recently disclosed that Nigeria has lost about $200 billion as a result of the non-passage of the PIB.

If you add the lost arbitrage of high oil prices put at $10 billion, when we should have seen significant investments in the industry due to oil prices hovering over $100 bpd, I will put the aggregate loss at $210 billion at the minimum.

If the trend continues, it will not bode well for the oil and gas industry and Nigeria, by extension. Let’s not forget that today, Nigeria’s crude oil exports are sustained by oil production from deep offshore fields such as Shell’s Bonga, ExxonMobil’s Erha and Total’s Akpo and Usan, among others. If these reserves are not replenished, then we are going to face serious issues in the nest 20 years.

Can you suggest ways the Corporation could properly restructure that it will operate like its contemporaries?

I think strict adherence to the provisions of the proposed Petroleum Industry Governance Bill would be the best bet to reposition the NNPC for effectiveness. Besides, technological innovation is key.

Lt.-Gen. Tukur Buratai, Nigeria’s Chief of Army Staff (COAS), on Friday said his vision was to have a professional and responsive army in the discharge of constitutional roles.
Buratai, represented by Maj.-Gen. Eniobong Udoh, General Officer Commanding (GOC) 6 Division of the Nigerian Army, Port Harcourt, made the remark at the ongoing 13th Editors’ Conference holding in Port Harcourt.
He said that the vision was intended to ensure seamless connection between the ends, the ways and the means of tackling insecurity as the army continues in safeguarding the nation’s territorial integrity.
“In order to maintain such pride, I have laid structures for effective leadership and personnel management because the army must strive to remain as an institution of authority.
“It is to create responsibilities, provide direction, inspiration, vision and communicate same to personnel at all times,” he said.
According to Burutai, the army by going this direction will be poised to confront evolving internal and external threats in order to guarantee the sovereignty of the country.
“In so doing, we are avowed to remain firmly apolitical in order to always find ourselves in a good stead to defend our constitution by providing the needed security environment for the survival of democracy,’’ said the COAS.
Burutai stated that the core values that emanated from professionalism and responsiveness included training, regimentation, welfare, operational exigencies logistics, inter-agency cooperation and observance of human rights.
“Typical examples of the pillars of professionalism and responsiveness are the exercises that the army has been conducting in the established crisis areas in the country,” he said.
The COAS recalled that he was appointed when the Boko Haram insurgents had instilled fear in the psyche of Nigerians and most of the troops’ locations were lost to the control of the terrorists.
He said it was unfortunate that several officers lost their lives in that process leading to a general dampening of the troops’ morale and fighting spirit across the country.
“On my appointment, therefore, I was naturally confronted with the urgent need to institute workable measures aimed at reversing this ugly trend.
“This is with a view of repositioning the theatre to begin a positive drive towards winning victory against the Boko Haram terrorists,” Buratai said. (NAN)

The immediate past national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Senator Ali Modu Sheriff has delinked any political motif to his private meeting with Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo last Thursday. He also denied meeting with the national chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun during his visit to the Presidential Villa.

Sheriff in a telephone chat with Vanguard also reacted to claims that he was pushing Senator Bode Olajumoke for the post of national chairman of the PDP.Chief Odigie-Oyegun in a separate statement also denied meeting Sheriff.

Sheriff lost his position as national chairman of the PDP to Senator Ahmed Makarfi after the Supreme Court in July legitimised the May, 2016 Port-Harcourt national convention of the party that removed him from office. Since then he has been largely under the political radar.

His presence at the Presidential Villa on Thursday drew speculations with some newspapers alleging that he was making plans to return to the APC, having been one of the pioneer fathers of the party. Sheriff’s possible return to the APC is bound to upset political permutations in his native Borno State.

“My visit to the villa was to meet with the Vice-President and had nothing to do with politics, after all he is the vice-president of the country and I had issues bordering on national interest that I needed to see him about,” he said.

“When it comes to politics, I know what to do and where to go,” Sheriff added.

Pressed on reports that he was pushing for Senator Olajumoke to emerge as the new national chairman of the PDP, he responded:Bode is my friend and he is a very good gentleman, he is a good man,” he said.

He also denied reports that he met Chief Odigie-Oyegun at the Presidential Villa affirming that he has not seen the APC national chairman in more than two years.  Odigie-Oyegun’s denial of the meeting with Sheriff was articulated in a statement issued by the National Publicity Secretary of the APC, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi.

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) on Thursday, said only candidates who meet the O’ level and A’ level requirements and other criteria set by institutions would be offered admission in 2017/2018.

‎JAMB Registrar, Prof. Is-haq Oloyede, stated this at a Training and Sensitization Forum on Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS) for admission offers, candidates and stakeholders on in Abuja.

Prof. Oloyede said: “Scoring higher than the cut-off mark does not guarantee admission but makes the candidate eligible for admission consideration. It is not UTME that qualifies the person. It is O level, A level that qualifies a person for admission.

“That is why you can go from here to UK, you can go to Ghana, Uganda, Republic of Benin, nobody ask you of your UTME, they ask for your O level because by law it is the school cert that qualifies you not JAMB,” he said.

He also warned that JAMB will not tolerate illegal admissions by any higher institution.

The body also stated that students admitted illegally won’t be regularised anymore.

“We know that we have abused the process. What we have been doing is to send N5,000 each to JAMB in the name of regularization without capturing their picture, without capturing anything. You pay N5,000 and then they are regularized.

“We have not stopped to do backlog but from 2016 upward we will not allow anybody to do backdoor admission. “You cannot admit anybody under the table. Let us know your problem and let us collectively solve the problem so that you do not need to do such thing.

We will protest to the whole world that we have 500 students in our institutions but in reality they are about 1 million but 500,000 thousand have been admitted illegally,” Oloyede remarked.

Nigerian energy businessman Kola Aluko, declared wanted by the EFCC, has been identified as the owner of Apartment 79, a penthouse apartment in One57, one of New York City's most expensive residential buildings.

However, the apartment would be sold to the highest bidder by a Luxembourg based Banque Havilland, in a foreclosure auction in July, the New York Post reported.

The penthouse sale is seen as the most expensive foreclosure in New York City.

Aluko, 48, is believed to be hiding out on his yacht, which he rented to Jay Z and Beyoncé in 2015 for $900,000 a week.

The energy businessman, a friend of stars such as Jay Z and Jamie Foxx, has not been seen for a while, which has sparked rumours that he is hiding away on his yacht, which was last registered in the Bahamas in May.

Mr. Aluko was reportedly last seen in Hong Kong in May and his yacht is currently in the Bahamas, according to the report.

His bank has also listed the yacht, the Galactica Star, as collateral in the foreclosure, but the yacht is 'out of range' at the moment.Mr. Aluko rented the Galactica Star to Jay Z and Beyoncé in 2015 for $900,000 a week and allegedly showed up at the Ja Rule Fyre Festival in the Bahamas in late April with his yacht.

The businessman is also close friends with Leonardo DiCaprio and made a large donation to DiCaprio's environmental charity as well as attended the actor's birthday party in New York City in 2013.

The energy tycoon sold a 2.4-acre estate in Montecito, California, to Gwyneth Paltrow for an undermarket $4.9 million.

In 2012, he bought an 11,478-square-foot house in Bel Air for $24.5 million, then sold the property in 2016 for $21.5 million.

He also owns a home in Beverly Hills that was also purchased in 2012 for $14.7 million.

Mr. Aluko is also avoiding Nigerian authorities who tried to freeze his asset in February as part of a money-laundering probe that also involves ex-Petroleum Minister Diezani Alison-Madueke, an ally of Mr. Aluko.

Apartment 79 was sold to a Aluko in December 2014 for $50.9 million, making it the eighth most expensive unit in the building, according to New York City property records.

Less than a year later however, he took out a $35.5 million mortgage from Banque Havilland in Luxembourg to help pay for the apartment.

When Mr. Aluko failed to pay the loan back a year later, the bank took possession of the 6,420-square-foot apartment, according to court documents.Now the bank is planning to auction off the four-bedroom apartment on July 19 to regain the mortgage plus interest.

"It's probably the most-expensive foreclosure we've ever seen in luxury development. I don't know of a foreclosure that's larger than that," Donna Olshan, president of high-end Manhattan brokerage Olshan Realty Inc., told newsmen.

One57 was built by Extell Development Co. and was the tallest residential building in Manhattan until 432 Park Ave was completed a few months later.

Construction started on the building in 2009 and finished in 2014, creating a trend of similar ultra-luxury high-rises on 57th street, which has now been coined 'Billionaire's Row'.

Properly stretching the involved muscles or using a foam roller a few minutes a day are both great ways to loosen up all of those tight spots.
A Stretch for What Ails You
Before stretching, it’s a good idea to warm up your muscles. Stretching a cold muscle is not only ineffective, but it could also cause injury. Warming up is pretty simple and doesn’t require any fancy equipment. If you’re fitting a quick stretch break into your workday you can jog in place, take a quick walk around the office or do some dynamic stretches.
 
The key to a good stretch is how long it’s held. To get the most out of a stretch, it should be held for at least 30 seconds and be repeated at least two or three times. Holding a stretch for less than 20 seconds doesn’t let your muscle fully lengthen or provide much relief to your tense spots. But holding a stretch for too long may lead to injury.
Some of the most common areas of our body that end up feeling tight are the neck, shoulders, back and buttocks. Here are four stretches — one for each of those trouble spots:

1. Trapezius Stretch
One of the biggest muscles in your neck is the trapezius. It helps stabilize your shoulder blades and extend your neck. For people with desk jobs, this muscle has a tendency to get very tight. You may have even heard people say they carry their stress in their necks: That’s the trapezius.
HOW TO DO IT: Sit with good posture in a supportive chair. Look straight ahead and let one arm relax down to your side. With your other arm, place your hand on top of your head and gently pull your head away from the side of the relaxed arm. Pull until you feel gentle tension in your neck. Hold this stretch for 30 seconds. Then repeat on the other side.

2. Pectoralis Stretch
Another muscle group that also tends to get tight is your pectorals, or the muscles of your chest. When these muscles are tight, they can cause your shoulders to become rounded and may contribute to poor posture. Here’s a stretch to open up your chest.
HOW TO DO IT: Stand in a doorway with your arms outstretched and bent at the elbows so that your forearms run along the edge of the door frame. Take a small step forward. You should feel a stretch across the front of your chest. Hold for 30 seconds.

3. Paraspinal Stretch
After a long day of sitting you may feel like you need to get up and stretch your back muscles. There’s a large group of muscles called the paraspinals, which run down your entire back. These muscles help stabilize your back during the day and usually end up get very tight and tired. This is a very relaxing stretch for your back and will also stretch your shoulders!
HOW TO DO IT: Kneel on the floor or on a yoga mat and slowly stretch forward so that your hands and arms are extended on the floor in front of you. Sink your butt back to your feet. Hold this stretch for 30 seconds and repeat at least two to three times.

4. Piriformis Stretch
One final muscle that gets very tight is called the piriformis muscle. It lies deep in your buttocks, underneath your glutes. It runs over your sciatic nerve, and if it’s tight you can feel a literal pain in your butt (and maybe hips too).
HOW TO DO IT: Lie on your back with both knees bent. Cross one leg over the other so that your foot is resting near your opposite knee. Use your hands to pull your top leg toward your opposite shoulder. You will feel a stretch in your buttock area. Repeat this stretch on the opposite leg.
Always remember that stretching should be relaxing. Hold the stretches with gentle tension for at least 30 seconds and be sure to breathe throughout the entire process!

Safety regulations earn local airlines zero - crash in 2016 , say experts
The Federal Government has approved the concessioning of two of its national airports, the Murtala Muhammed Airport , Lagos and Nnamdi Azikiwe Airport , Abuja.
Vice President Yemi Osinbajo stated this in Abuja at the fifth edition of the presidential quarterly business forum organised by the Presidential Enabling Business Environment Committee (PEBEC) in the old Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa.
Osinbajo, who did not disclose the identities of the concessionaires, said: “ I am pleased to say that the Federal Executive Council (FEC ) has approved the concessioning of the Lagos and Abuja airports. ”
He noted that the Federal Government ’ s concern on ease of doing business in Nigeria was to ensure a general overhaul of the business environment , which he said, involved the concessioning of all airports in the country .
Osinbajo who submitted that a partnership with the private sector operators was a decision in the right direction, pointed out that it also serves as the forum for the government to receive both criticisms and suggestions from the private sector .
He also said it had become imperative to improve the capacity of government agencies which regulate business activities.In another development, the zero accident score recorded by Nigerian aviation industry was yesterday hinged on enhanced safety regulations implemented by airlines and their regulators .
The record was described as a feat and good omen for the sector that had been plagued by one - too - many fatal crashes in the past.Guest Speaker at the Aviation Day session at the ongoing 13 th Akwaaba Travel and Tour Market in Lagos on Monday , Gbenga Olowo , said statistics availed by the International Air Transport Association (IATA ) for 2016 showed great safety improvement in the local industry in particular and Africa in general, compared to records of the past.
Olowo , who is also the President of Aviation Safety Round Table Initiative (ASRTI), noted that whereas a total of 3 . 8 billion travelled on 40 .4 million flights globally in 2016, the number of total accidents, fatal accidents and fatalities all declined in five years average .He observed that compared to 2 .5 per cent five- year average (2011 - 2015), the chances of crash happening is now 0 .39 in Africa , compare to 0 .35 global average .
Chief Executive Officer of the Accident Investigation Bureau (AIB ), represented by the spokesperson , Tunji Oketunbi , added that the feat was an effect of changes introduced following 2005 / 2006 crashes .
He said the achievement was due to collaboration of all stakeholders , who did their best to keep the industry safe and crash - free.General Manager of British Airways in West African region , Kola Olayinka, urged the airlines to continue on the safety path to keep their business running, saying that a single crash is enough , not only to rubbish the record , but also to kill an airline .

Delta’s hits one-million passenger-mark on Lagos-Atlanta route

Delta Air Lines has hit an important milestone as it carried the one - millionth customer to fly on its nonstop service between Nigeria and the United States.
The passenger , Gbemisola Abudu , was met by the Delta’s Commercial Director for East and West Africa , Bobby Bryan , as she checked in for her flight from Lagos to Atlanta and was presented with a special celebratory gift to mark the occasion.
Bryan said Delta has a lot to celebrate in Nigeria and “we ’re delighted to congratulate Ms Abudu for being our one -millionth passenger on - board our Lagos route , a landmark moment for our airline. ”
He added that Delta’ s operations in Nigeria continue to go from strength to strength, as they celebrate 10 - year anniversary in the Nigerian market.
Following her surprise at check - in , Abudu was treated to Delta’s Sky Priority airport service , as well as a VIP celebration in Delta’s airport lounge .
Delta is the only U. S . airline to serve Nigeria and will mark a decade of nonstop service to Lagos in December . From March 26 , 2018 , the airline will operate daily service between Lagos and the United States, with four weekly services to Atlanta complemented by three new weekly flights to New York- JFK.

L’Oreal heiress Liliane Bettencourt, the world’s richest woman whose old age was clouded by dementia, has died at the age of 94, her family said Thursday.

“Liliane Bettencourt died last night at home,” her daughter Francoise Bettencourt Meyers said in a statement. “My mother left peacefully.”

Bettencourt, the cosmetics giant’s principal shareholder, was the 14th richest person in the world, according to Forbes magazine, which estimated her net worth in March at $39.5 billion (33 billion euros).

She was rarely seen in public since leaving the L’Oreal board in 2012, but her name remained in the headlines as members of her entourage were charged with exploiting her failing mental health.

Bettencourt had been declared unfit to run her own affairs in 2011 after a medical report showing she had suffered from “mixed dementia” and “moderately severe” Alzheimer’s disease since 2006.

The complex legal case involved a bitter feud with her only daughter and unscrupulous friends, and even dragged in former president Nicolas Sarkozy.

Patrice de Maistre, who managed Bettencourt’s vast fortune, was accused of getting her to hand over envelopes of cash to members of Sarkozy’s right-wing UMP party during his 2007 presidential campaign.

The charges against Sarkozy were dropped in October 2013 due to lack of evidence.

The Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Hameed Ali, yesterday announced the seizure of another 470 pump action rifles smuggled into the country through the Tin Can ports in Apapa, Lagos.

Consequently, the NCS has placed all the nation’s gateways, including the seaports, land borders and airports, on red alert to checkmate the smuggling of arms and ammunition into the country.

The latest seizure made it the fourth time customs officials intercepted smuggled pump action rifles now totaling 2,671 pieces. The NCS had in January seized 661 pieces of pump action rifles, which were found in 49 boxes. In May, the operatives intercepted 440 pieces of assorted pump action rifles and on September 11, 2017, another 1100 rifles were intercepted at the Tin Can Island. All of these originated from Turkey.Ali has therefore directed all customs formations at the gateways to be on the alert and ensure a 100 per cent examination of cargoes entering the country.

Apparently worried about the rising rate of arms smuggling, the comptroller-general said the situation had forced the customs to look beyond the ease of doing business policy directive of the Federal Government, in order to ensure the security of lives and property of the citizens.

According to him, the arms were concealed in a 20-foot container with No. CMAU189817/8 falsely declared as elbow plumbing plastics on its bill of lading. The importer of the cargo is Great James Oil and Gas Limited, and the vessel is MV Arkas Africa owned by Hull Blyth.

Ali said: “Sadly, I am back here. Despite all the seizures that have been made in the last eight months, these syndicates have not relented in bringing these deadly weapons into our country.

“Having developed the profile of most important items coming from Turkey, the controller of Tin Can Island Customs command, Bashar Yusuf, had insisted on a 100 per cent examination of any container that comes in. The result is what we see on the ground.“It is an understatement to say that we are being threatened as a country and our findings have shown that this dastardly act is perpetrated by Nigerians. There are syndicates who are in Turkey and manifesting this. We are yet to get to the bottom of the whole thing. Are these meant for commercial purposes? Are they meant to be used by insurgents, agitators as they called themselves, or kidnappers? That aspect of the investigation is going on and I am sure that the State Security Service and other agencies will unravel these,” he said.

Ali promised the NCS would leave no stone unturned in taking the issues beyond the boarders of Nigeria. “Tomorrow (today) we will be having the first diplomatic meeting with the ambassador of Turkey basically on this issue. Already, our president has discussed this at an international forum and he has been mandated to speak with us and assist us to find the way forward,” he said.

He lamented that about 80 per cent of importation comes under false declaration. “That is why we find it difficult to effectively execute the ease of doing business, because if we speed up clearance and depend on the document, these are what we will be unleashing on our society. We have to subject the containers to a100 per cent examination and that delays the honest people’s goods.”According to the customs boss, unless Nigerians begin to do the right thing and be honest in their business dealings, it would be difficult to ensure the ease of doing business. “That is the fact because if we do apply that, this is what we will end up with and I don’t think we want to shy away from doing our duty because we want to clear goods faster. The safety and wellbeing of Nigerians is more important. The security of this country is more important to Nigeria Customs Service than the money we will collect in terms of duty.”

According to Ali, arms and ammunition are under prohibited items. “Aside from arms and ammunition posing a serious challenge to national security, 80 per cent of illicit goods coming into the country are often intercepted by customs under false declaration. Therefore, we need the best technology to detect such items in order to prevent them from going into wrong hands.”

The Customs Area Controller (CAC) of the command, Bashar Yusuf, said the seizure of the rifles was made possible through accurate data profiling of the cargo right from the sea.

“Container profiling is quite imperative in customs operations, because through this means, we were able to track the arms from the vessel in the sea and intercepted the items at the entry point.

“We profiled the container through the means of conveyance used in bringing the weapons as well as data from the documents attached to it. Similarly, we are currently profiling containers that are not only carrying arms but other prohibited items, in order to prevent such offensive items from going into our economic environment,” he said.
