Can a 12 year old, do this?

[Image: Tomisin-Ogunnubi-Mobile-App-33-of-34.jpg...C683&ssl=1]In 2016, Tomisin Ogunnubi, a 12-year old student of Vivian Fowler Memorial School built “My Locator, an app to help find lost children. Today, Tomisin is a Microsoft certified specialist in Microsoft Word, Excel and Powerpoint who is working on her plans to build an eCommerce platform for teenagers.

After a brief sit-down with Tomisin, it is clear that the quality tech education she gets in school is a major force driving her young innovative mind.Working in partnership with New Horizons, the Vivian Fowler tech curriculum is commendable. Tomisin finds her computer classes interesting and engaging as students are exposed to applications and programmes that are away from the usual.

[Image: Tomisin-Ogunnubi-Mobile-App-12-of-34.jpg...C512&ssl=1]Tomisin Ogunnubi

She has gained experience using programs such as VideoScribe, Scratch, App Inventor and she has had the opportunity to explore and experiment with them too. Her  “My Locator” app was a product of one of such experiments; she didn’t exactly set out to build an app. She has also ventured into other areas like animation and website design, out of school.
While Tomisin’s basic locator app may not exactly be mind-blowing and we can’t tell if her proposed entrepreneurship platform will be successful, we all yearn to see an education system that can inspire creativity and creative solutions. Seeing young students like Tomisin think up and create solutions gives us hope for the future.

However, on the other side of the wall, the story gets bleak. While some Junior Secondary students like Tomisin play with basic codes and other applications, you would expect students in tertiary institutions to be on to the real deal. But, this is not the case.
Samuel, a third-year student of Computer Science of the University of Agriculture in Abia state has never had any practical lessons since he got into the school. He hasn’t exactly enjoyed studying computer science, in his words; “We do more of mathematics and it is very annoying”. Samuel only has rudimentary knowledge in Java and is yet to build any tech product.

The story may not be very different in private universities either. Gerald (not real name), a third-year student at Redeemers University isn’t having an enjoyable experience learning computer science either. According to him, practical lessons typically involve lecturers projecting materials they don’t appear to understand themselves on an e-board and giving whatever explanations they can manage, after which students are allowed to struggle with assignments. “I would like to have more practicals than theory and lecturers that are more engaging”, he said.
The self-taught palaver
As it becomes clear that many schools cannot cope with the growing tech demand, “self-taught” and “self-learning ” have become the buzzword for many employers. Computer Science graduates today are typically expected to have certain technical skills to be employable regardless of the quality of education they have received.
Yet the journey to becoming a self-learned programmer especially in Nigeria is fraught with a lot of challenges. Wale Akanbi, a self-taught programmer started teaching himself to code as a JSS 3 student in 2003. Without a system, the internet or the luxury of videos, he spent valuable time and money in cyber cafes and he relied solely on books and materials which were scarce back then in Ogbomosho. Even as a 100 level student, he worked on designing a University portal, yet school only helped him refine his rough edges;  he doesn’t think his undergraduate degree in Computer Science is largely beneficial to his success as a programmer.
Segun walked down the self-learning path more recently; he developed an interest in programming after a programming exam in school.  “No clear path to my goal” was the first difficulty he mentioned. He also had to deal with poor power supply, high cost of data bundles and processing vague information over the internet. Segun relied on YouTube videos and tutorials he downloaded at his school’s digital centre. Wale and Segun both agree, that their quest to become programmers would have been smoother if they had guidance from experienced people at some point.
One thing is clear, it takes a lot of determination and drive to be a self-taught programmer. Yet it also requires a good deal of time, patience and internet access and the sad truth is, all these are luxuries for many students on Nigerian campuses. Without free internet facilities in schools coupled with the pressure of coping with an already overwhelming workload, it is difficult for many students to learn new tech skills on their own, even if they would naturally love too.
Industrial training placement opportunities which can help undergraduates gain new skills have also become more demanding and scarce; students are also expected to have practical skills in areas they never ventured in. Today, after a four-year degree program, many computer science graduates subscribe to other learning alternatives to update their skills and stay employable. Apart from the fact that this feels like a sheer waste of a graduate’s time and money, this option is only available to people who can afford it.

Giving students  the incentive to learn

Still, it goes beyond computer science graduates and programming careers. In this era of automation, as machines gradually replace humans, IT skills may soon become a necessity for all.

Sheriff Shittu, CEO of Switch, a developer training outfit based in Lagos, emphasises the need for undergraduates to gain skills while in school to help them transition smoothly into tech careers.
[Image: Switch-Startup-2.jpg?resize=768%2C512&ssl=1]
“Computer science undergraduates should opt for serious internship opportunities, learn from free online courses and generally get their hands dirty acquiring knowledge while in school. After school training is also important to enable them blend in the workplace”

So while it may be impossible for many schools to provide top-notch tech education in the near future, measures must be put in place to help students, especially those in higher institutions, to learn relevant skills on their own while in school for them to stand a chance in the real world.
Joseph Sam, a technology management professional at IBM suggests that one way to achieve this would be by designing a more accommodating curriculum where students can gain new skills outside the usual course requirements that can count as credit towards their degree.
“You don’t see a student who needs to pass his courses leaving it behind and spending so much time learning things like artificial intelligence, purely out of interest; he has to pass his exams”, he said during an interview with Techpoint. “But what if there was a course or program in cognitive computing that these students could enroll in and be assessed practically and theoretically and then graded. Then you will find people finding their fit, people venturing into areas which would be of benefit when they get out of school.”, he added.

[Image: Engine-Room-Joseph-Sam-23-of-37.jpg?ssl=1]

With the many problems students face in the process of learning IT in the country including poor infrastructure, incompetent teachers and an outdated curriculum, online learning platforms are probably their best chance of staying afloat. Yet students must be given the right incentives to indulge in e-learning without the usual hassles.
Just like Joseph Sam suggests, giving students room to explore other areas and interests in IT on their own — especially those that the school curriculum still does not account for — is imperative. Also, internet connectivity is a basic necessity for students that is still being ignored in many schools; every student deserves free access to the internet while in school as not everyone can afford to buy data to learn online.
Like Mark Essien rightly said during an AMA Live Session with Techpoint, “Class divide is caused by education, not wealth. However, with the current state of our schooling systems, today getting an education isn’t enough; getting the right education is what’s important.  Unfortunately, only a few privileged ones still come close to getting quality education, leaving an astonishing number trailing behind. If we must change our story and address the many problems plaguing us, this must change.
How are you helping?
The onus does not lie solely on the schools or the government. While we wait to see positive change in our schools, tech skills can be acquired outside the formal learning structure too. We have seen innovative solutions like Andela, Switch, IBM’s Digital Nations Africa, Hotels.ng Internship in partnership with the Akwa-Ibom state government, give young people the opportunity to gain skills.
Some businesses too have stepped in; In an interview with Techpoint, the founders of Seamfix revealed how they turned the challenges they face in recruiting the right technical talents into an opportunity to train students in schools. “We go beyond getting talents from schools, we also invest and support some school programs in developing these talents. If they come back to us, then they already have an idea of what we do, if they don’t, then we have developed them for someone else the same way we also hope to get someone that has been developed by another”.
Even some individuals have gone ahead to contribute their own quota. A recent graduate and Google employee took to Twitter to share how a stranger set him on his path to success a few years ago by sponsoring him to learn programming as an undergraduate.
If we must get out of the current situation, we will need more people to take the initiative; more individuals and businesses opening up their doors to people who are willing to learn by providing internship opportunities, mentorship, sponsorship, even as little as providing internet access. Employers cannot continue to ignore the gap caused by our failed education system. Let us all create the change we want to see.

Visa: Nigeria Needs Digital Solutions to Enhance E-commerce
User Avatar Forum: E-Commerce

[Image: Andrew-Torre-and-Uttam-Nayak.jpg?fit=300%2C225&ssl=1]

President, sub-Saharan Africa for Visa, Mr. Andrew Torre
and Senior Vice President in charge of digital solutions,
Mr. Uttam Nayak

President, sub-Saharan Africa for Visa, Mr. Andrew Torre, and Senior Vice President in charge of digital solutions, Mr. Uttam Nayak, spoke with journalists on Visa’s partnership with some banks to boost online transactions. Emma Okonji brings the excerpts:

Visa has announced fresh plans to enhance online financial transactions in Nigeria, using the mVisa digital solution. What is unique about the solution?

Visa is global payments solution provider, and we have partnered some Nigerian banks to launched mVisa, an innovative mobile payment service, in Nigeria. The solution is currently being rolled out across Africa. The solution will enable bank customers to enjoy easy and secure payments and merchants will also benefit from it, as it helps to reduce cost and friction for accepting electronic payments. With mVisa, consumers from Visa’s Nigerian partner banks can pay with any mobile phone wherever mVisa is accepted. mVisa transactions are processed via Visa’s global network, VisaNet, applying the same scale, security and reliability as any other Visa transaction.

How many banks have signed up with the mVisa digital solution?

The banks that have already hooked on to the mVisa platform are Diamond Bank, Fidelity Bank and First Bank. But other bank like Access Bank, Ecobank, United Bank for Africa and Zenith Bank, have concluded deal with Visa to go live with mVisa in the coming weeks. With the digital solution, Nigeria will become the first market to provide customers the convenience of making cross-border payments using mVisa.

What are the benefits of the new digital platform to small businesses?

Small and medium merchants in particular, will no longer have to invest in expensive point of sale infrastructure as mVisa gives them the freedom to accept payments in a convenient, secure and affordable manner that their customers trust.
We are very excited to see more and more merchants come on board every day as they begin to understand the benefits that mVisa brings, including real-time notifications of payments and access to sales and transactions history. We have campaigns lined up for the coming months to support our merchants and encourage new customers to experience mVisa at various locations across Nigeria.

How will the mVisa solution enhance eCommerce business in Nigeria?

Let me start by saying that before now, customers used the 16 digit numbers of their bank card to do transactions, but with mVisa, the sane customers can take a picture of it and complete the online transactions. Basically, the solution is an enabler of e-commerce. There are several factors limiting the unbanked in Nigeria, which include bank locations and the processes involved in banking. But the mVisa solution guarantees faster access. Diamond, Fidelity and First banks, which have signed on the platform, will offer their customers the convenience of mVisa through their mobile banking apps. Access Bank, Ecobank, United Bank for Africa, and Zenith Bank, will go live with mVisa in the coming weeks. Nigeria is the first market to provide
customers the convenience of making cross-border payments using mVisa.

Is this solution peculiar to the Nigerian market?

The solution is not peculiar to the Nigerian market, but it is best in Nigeria, designed to enhance online transactions across existing banking apps. We have launched in India, Rwanda, Egypt, and Kenya. We have to get to sub-Saharan Africa as it is a massive market and to effectively service the sub-Saharan Africa market, we believe that Nigeria is crucial, because banks in Nigeria are sophisticated, and they all display banking applications that integrate these solutions on the  fast lane.

Who are the targets markets for this solution in the country?

Small and medium merchants are part of our target audience, as they will no longer have to invest in expensive point of sale infrastructure, since mVisa gives them the freedom to accept payments in a convenient, secure and affordable manner that their customers trust. We expect to see more and more merchants come on board every day as they begin to understand the benefits that mVisa brings, including real-time notifications of payments and access to sales and transactions history. We have campaigns lined up for the coming months to support our merchants and encourage new customers to experience mVisa at various locations across Nigeria.
Today, Visa and its financial institution partners are, for the first time, providing the benefits of digital commerce to potentially everyone, everywhere across Nigeria and the African continent, bringing millions more people into the formal financial system.

What must have motivated Visa in creating this solution?

Our plan is to have everyone digitised, both consumers and merchants. So, we see mVisa really changing that by allowing anyone to be a merchant with a simple QR code and with the solution, banks can get people enrolled into their mobile banking platform.
The way VISA works is through our clients, we can reach everyone across different areas. We do not physically reach out to consumers, or merchants, but we have since realised that it is so much better to partner with industry stakeholders, especially the banks. They already employ the services of the 16 digit card numbers, but we see things changing fast with mVisa. All that is needed is for partners to enable it on their mobile banking platform and
transactions are rolled out.

How important is this platform to the Nigerian market considering the fact that when there are challenges, most other companies will back out?

We have been in Africa for decades. We are long term investors. Africa is important to us and more so, Nigeria as the largest economy in Africa. If you look at what we have done this year, which include opening of new office, employing new staff and even doubled it. We have brought in more technical
experts, more marketing people, and we think it is a great time to invest. We offer technological solutions that are immensely beneficial. We have been here for 20 years; we will be here for more years.
We stay strong even when the chips are down. For instance, India went into demonetisation six months ago, knocked out 86 per cent of the currency. They asked us to come back with products, which we did. So, when things are down with the government, paying with digital cards help to reduce cost, puts more money into the banking system, and this enables more productivity. The Nigerian government has been talking about cashless policy, so, we believe we have aligned with the government focus with this new solution.

What are the security measures put in place to secure the platform?

The security of the solution is a combination of what the banks apply on their mobile platform and what we offer too. Just as you authenticate yourself, it will lay out on the other ends also.

Nigerian Engineer Makes Drones That Smell Bombs
User Avatar Forum: Startups
Posted by: samxpress9 - 08-28-2017, 12:37 PM - No Replies

A Nigerian engineer and neuroscientist, Oshiorenoya Agabi, is blazing a trail in America’s Silicon Valley by developing drones that are capable of smelling bombs far away.
Agabi is the founder and CEO of the Silicon Valley startup, Koniku, a wetware company which is the world’s first neurocomputation company. Koniku is a privately held, venture backed company using biological neurons to interface with the real world. They build systems that use real biological neurons for sensing, control and computation.
The company is currently focused on two related technologies: the odour positioning system and the odour surveillance system. These technologies will replicate sensitivity and specificity levels only seen in biological systems, according to a report by scitechafrica.com.
This innovation is based on Agabi’s Ph.D. research in Imperial College London, that allows drug developers to replicate human organ drug interactions using “lab on a chip” technology in order to radically improve preclinical testing procedures.
“Imagine being able to detect odours a significant distance away with form factors which you can mount on a commercially available drone. The system will be complete with on board biological learning and classification,” wrote Agabi on his LinkedIn profile.
Koniku is giving machines the ability to smell just like you, isn’t that awesome?
Agabi’s start up, has developed a prototype 64-neuron silicon chip and their first application is making a drone that can smell explosives. According to Osh, the drone would be able to smell bombs several kilometers away, it could also be used for surveying farmland, refineries, manufacturing plants — anything where health and safety can be measured by an acute sense of smell.
This is a very big innovation because there are no silicon devices which are able to give us the level of sensitivity that we find in biology. It took the processing power of one of the world’s most powerful supercomputers to simulate just one percent of human brain activity for a single second when tried by researchers from Germany and Japan.
Agabi believes “there are no practical limits to how large we can make our devices or how much we can engineer our neurons. I believe as intelligent computation goes—biology is the ultimate frontier.”
Agabi who has work experience across 5 (Nigeria, Sweden, Switzerland, UK and US ) countries and speaks 5 (Avianwu, Creoles and pidgins English-based, English, German, Swedish and Yoruba) languages, started his studies in Federal College of Fisheries and Marine Technology in Nigeria where he obtained a Diploma in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering, Diploma studies in marine engineering, naval studies and merchant marines in 1997. He obtained a Bachelor of Science in Theoretical and Mathematical Physics from the University of Lagos also in Nigeria in 2001.
He left Nigeria for Sweden where he obtained a Master of Science in Physics from Umeå University in 2005. He studied also at Eidgenössische Technische Hochschule Zürich, Switzerland (2005 – 2010), where he developed applied criteria for computability of biological neurons in vitro. He went further to obtain a PhD in Computational Neuroscience and Engineering at Imperial College London in 2014.
He is a member of several international science and engineering societies, these include Swiss Physical Society, Swiss Society for Neuroscience, Society for Neuroscience, American Physical Society and Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers.

A case against a 40-year-old man, who allegedly raped a three-year-old nursery school pupil in Onaosa, in the Ibeju-Lekki area in Nigeria, has been filed in a Lagos State Magistrate's Court.
The accused, Kehinde Gabriel, approached the girl when she was going to a mosque with her sisters on 16 August, as reported by local newspaper The Punch
Gabriel, a neighbour of the girl's parents, reportedly lured the minor girl into his apartment with a loaf of bread, beans and a drink before raping her.
The victim's mother informed the police that the girl returned home crying and blood was found on her private parts.
"She went to the mosque with her other sisters on that day. After some minutes, she returned home with a bottle of drink and bread, crying," the mother said.
"I asked her what was wrong and she said it was Uncle Kehinde (Gabriel) that gave the items to her. She was running temperature. While her father and I were checking her body, we saw blood in her private parts."
Gabriel denied the allegations and said that he gave the girl food because she complained of hunger.
"I saw the girl crying beside my house and I asked what happened to her. She said she was hungry and I gave her bread and beans. I did not defile her," he added.
The Police Prosecutor, Inspector Simeon Imhonwa, reportedly said the offence was punishable under Section 137 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2011.
"That, you Kehinde Gabriel, on August 16, 2017, on Ogunse Street, Onaosa, Ibeju-Lekki, Lagos, in the Lagos Magisterial District, did unlawfully defile a three-year-old, thereby committing an offence punishable under Section137 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011," the charge read.
The presiding magistrate, B.O. Osunsanmi, granted the accused bail in the sum of N500,000 (£1,074) with "two reputable sureties".
Osunsanmi added that the sureties have to provide evidence of two years tax payments to the Lagos State Government. The case is adjourned until 17 October.

Ondo Pastor who cures spiritual attack through sexual intercourse
User Avatar Forum: Crime
Posted by: trustangel - 08-25-2017, 10:03 AM - No Replies

WITH her eyes wide open, a 32 year old housewife Omotola Akerele seeking spiritual help watched her five year old marriage end abruptly, no thanks to an abortion for a “man of God” who took advantage of her during her trying period.

Findings showed that the “man of God” Matthew Olakunle had also taken advantage of her junior sister Tope and their 60 year old mother, Janet under the pretext of spiritual deliverances.

Olakunle confessed to having sexual intercourse with Tope twice and prayed for their mother twice nakedly.

•Olakunle: The suspected Pastor rapists in Ondo
He also shaved Tope’s pubic and armpit hair before having sexual intercourse with her.

All these were to deliver the family members from one spiritual attack or the other.

Their 60-year old grandmother who introduced her daughters to the pastor said that she started attending the church five years ago denied any sexual intercourse with the pastor but confirmed that her pastor always prayed for women seeking spiritual help in the nude.

However, Omotola also walked into the trap of  Pastor Olakunle, the then head of the Christ Apostolic Church, Oke Itura in Iju town, Akure North Local Government Area of Ondo State who said he had a solution to her “ spiritual attack”.

Omotola had confided in her mother that she was battling with an acute cough which had defied solution after several medications for over a year.

Findings showed that when she coughs she equally urinates on her body.

Olakunle not only took advantage of her condition but impregnated her and in her bid to conceal the pregnancy from her husband, Elijah Oluwaseun she decided to abort the pregnancy.

The mother, a staunch member of the church introduced Omotola to her pastor who after listening to her story concluded that her matter was a spiritual attack that needed special deliverance which will last for a minimum of one week in the mission house at Ejigbo area of lju.

But the husband, according to Vanguard findings got wind of what happened between his wife and her pastor and that she had taken in for him and had subsequently terminated the pregnancy.

Findings showed that Oluwaseun confronted his wife with the facts and she reportedly confessed to what happened between her and the pastor and she was sacked from her matrimonial home.

The “man of God” prefers spiritual seekers visiting him to be stark naked during deliverance period said “ God answers prayers faster when those afflicted are completely naked before him.”

The victim while narrating her ordeal in the hands of the pastor on a live programme on Adaba FM in Akure, the Ondo State capital said the pastor instructed her to remove all her clothes including underwear before each of the prayer sessions which lasted seven days both day and night.

She said the pastor’s wife was away in Ajowa Akoko area of the state during her deliverance days in the pastor’s two-room apartment.

Omotola said on the radio programme that on the last day of the deliverance session the pastor pushed her to the bed, mounted her and had sexual intercourse with her.

The pastor, according to her, said the sexual contact will exorcise the “evil spirits” dwelling inside her body and the cough and incessant urinating at the same time would cease forthwith.

She pointed out that a month after the sexual romp she got pregnant but later aborted it with N5000 because of the attendant shame it would bring to her if the truth comes out and she could not transfer its paternity to her husband.

She said she came to the radio station to expose the pastor because he was responsible for the break-up of her marriage and more importantly to prevent other spiritual seekers from falling prey to the antics of the fake pastor.

According to her “ I had severe cough and my mother took me to Pastor Olakunle Mathew for prayer in Iju. After praying for me he said I needed a shaving stick and a handkerchief to perform the spiritual exercise which I took to him.

“The pastor told me that he wanted to use my hair to perform some spiritual work that would solve my spiritual problem. On the night of that first day we got there, he asked me to put off my clothes in the presence of my mother to pray for me in the mission house.

“Since that day, he has been asking me to come for deliverance and when I got there he would ask me to remove my clothes and lie on the bed. He would lie on me nakedly and be praying for me.

“On the seventh day, he shaved the hair of my private part and my armpit hair and put the hair in the white handkerchief. After that, we had sexual intercourse and after the intercourse he asked my to go and bury the hair in the handkerchief   behind the mission house.”

Also speaking on the programme, the pastor confirmed praying for the women of the church in the nude.

He said he had put in over 15 years in the pastoral work in the church and had served in many branches of the church across the country.

Olakunle said that he was able to cure Omotola of the attack after the one week deliverance session.

The Benefits of Having An eCommerce Business
User Avatar Forum: E-Commerce

Many people are moving from physical stores to buy goods and services online. Ecommerce can simply be defined as the activity of doing business activities online, which involves buying and selling products and services through a website. Consumers are increasingly choosing this method of shopping because it is convenient.
Apart from the fact that an online store allows consumers to shop from the comfort of their own homes 24/7, unlike a brick and mortar store which is open for a set number of hours, there are many other benefits of having an eCommerce business. In collaboration with PayU, we have listed five of them below.
1. Build an online presence
Statistics show that more than 80% of the online population has used the internet to purchase something. We’re in an era where your customers expect your services to be available online. And if they aren’t, your audience will be searching for an alternative – who is your competitor – to make an online purchase.
2. Provide customers with comprehensive information
An eCommerce site allows you to provide shoppers with detailed information on products, which customers appreciate, as they can then make informed buying choices. From the product description to customer reviews and a returns policy, you can provide as much information as you want. Customers can view ingredients and get background information about the product’s manufacturers, which is difficult to do in physical stores.
3. Save on running costs
Operating an eCommerce business can actually save you money, as the overall cost of maintaining an online store is far less than that of a brick and mortar store. You can reduce labour, and cut down expenses in many other ways such as in overtime and supervision expenses. Ecommerce gives staff members time to concentrate on profit-generating activities.
4. Attract new customers
An immense number of people search the internet every day to find products that they want to buy. With a physical store, it’s next to impossible to reach such a huge market. However, with an eCommerce store you can easily reach these shoppers while also offering them the convenience of various online payment solutions to pay for their purchases. An online store enables a business to reach many more consumers than it would with physical stores.
5. Capture the buying habits of your customers
A website can capture the movements of each person who visits the site, including the items that a shopper viewed, the pages that were clicked, as well as all the products that were bought. This information can give you more insight into what your customers desire the most, so that you’re able to meet all your customers’ needs. As a result, they will be happy and keep coming back.
Without an online presence, you’re limiting the potential for growth; eCommerce is no longer an option for today’s businesses.

NIPOST Gears Up For Nigerian e-Commerce Surge
User Avatar Forum: E-Commerce
Posted by: e-guru - 08-23-2017, 11:56 PM - No Replies

Nigeria’s postal service, NIPOST,  announced on Tuesday, August 1, 2017  the adoption of the innovative global addressing system- what3words. The move has seen Nigeria become the seventh country globally to adopt what3words, and the third in Africa. The system, which is already being used for mail deliveries in Mongolia, Sint Maarten, and Côte d’Ivoire, will service Africa’s largest economy and most populous country in an attempt to better prepare Nigeria for the predicted e-Commerce expansion.
Nigeria’s poor addressing system means that only 20% of its inhabitants receive mail at home. 79% of homes and businesses cannot receive deliveries to the door, and the remaining 1% receive their mail using one of the 478,000 P.O. boxes throughout the country. A postcode system does exist, but only 5% of mail gets properly addressed with the postcode, hampering the efforts of NIPOST to improve its quality of service.

An addressing solution
Determined to improve this situation, NIPOST has set itself the ambitious target of increasing home delivery to 70% within the next 2 years and 90% by 2020 through the Mail for Every House Initiative (MEHI), and has adopted what3words to help it achieve these goals. The innovative global addressing system has divided the world into 57 trillion 3m x 3m squares, each with a unique 3 word address. It means that every home and business in Nigeria has a simple and accurate address that is easy to remember and to use. For example ///bracelets.hesitations.mutes refers to the exact 3m x 3m square at the entrance to the main post office in Nigeria’s capital, Abuja.
Nigeria’s poor addressing system means that only 20% of its inhabitants receive mail at home
Available in 14 languages, with many more currently in development, what3words is used in over 170 countries by governments, postal services, logistics companies, emergency services and NGOs, as well as individuals. It is more accurate than traditional street addresses, simpler than landmark-based directions, and easier to remember and communicate than GPS coordinates. The system has built-in error detection and is available through a free mobile app and API integration. The system even works offline, without a data connection.
“We are very pleased to be collaborating with what3words as an addressing solution with huge potential to unlock opportunities” said Barrister Bisi Adegbuyi, Nigeria’s Postmaster General. “Better addressing is a key to NIPOST’s agenda, which aims to transform, innovate, and deliver more services to more people all over the country”.
E-commerce potential
Young people make up 62% of Nigeria’s population, and this is reflected in the significant increase in cross border e-commerce in the country; 53,612 parcels and packets were handled in 2016 (approx. 200 per day) which is up 70% since 2014. The e-commerce market is currently worth $12 billion, but there is still huge potential for growth. With improvements to infrastructure, innovation around payment systems and a reliable addressing system, Nigerian e-commerce could be set to take off at an incredible scale.
“With a rapidly growing ecommerce ecosystem, Nigeria is a very exciting country to be working with,” said Chris Sheldrick, CEO and Co-founder of what3words. “Postal services have a critical role in building a strong economy and NIPOST are firmly focused on the future, and are taking steps to modernise and grow their capacity and range of services.”

Man says he was tricked into transporting 10kg of ice hidden in fish statues

A Nigerian man on trial for a large importation of drugs concealed inside three fish statues says he thought he was helping a friend's decor business.
A Nigerian man on trial for a large importation of the drug ice inside three fish statues has told the ACT Supreme Court he thought he was helping a friend's decor business.

Jackson Igwebuike, 34, said when he realised what was happening he was "petrified" and unable to back out, after threats were made against him and his wife, who was in Nigeria.
He told the court he was "set up" by his friend.

Quote:"They have ruined by my life. I can't even get a job," he said.
Igwebuike said he was helped by the friend when he came to Australia to study.
He said he agreed to collect the fish statues for the man, which had been delivered to a Canberra address, and take them to Sydney.
Igwebuike was arrested attempting to board a bus from Canberra to Sydney with about 10 kilograms of methamphetamine.
He told the court he believed his friend made money out of the statues which were a home decor item "that Australians like".

But the court heard before Igwebuike left for Sydney, two men who had been involved in the arrangements came and broke the fish open.
Inside the statues were bags wrapped in black tape, which the men allegedly told Igwebuike to take to Sydney.
Igwebuike said he expressed concern about transporting the bags because he did not know their contents.
But he said one of the men lifted his shirt to show he had a gun and then brought out a phone to show him a picture of his wife in Nigeria.
Quote:"They made it clear that if I did not take these items they would be prepared to kill my wife and destroy me," he said.
"I was petrified."
Igwebuike rejected suggestions from prosecutors that he made up the story about the two men and he was in control of the process.
The case is expected to wind up tomorrow.

  Footsteps of Nigeria’s e-commerce
User Avatar Forum: E-Commerce
Posted by: e-guru - 08-23-2017, 12:58 AM - No Replies

The growing appetite for mobile data usage as well as increased network coverage has increased the potential of Nigeria’s e-commerce market. Based on data from the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), mobile network coverage is currently estimated at 77% on the basis of 185 million as the country’s population.

However, internet data penetration via GSM is lower, at 50%. The potential impact of a thriving e-commerce market is improved trade activity as it provides a cost-effective method of connecting producers and merchants directly to customers.

Industry sources suggest Nigeria’s e-commerce market value could hit US$50bn over the next decade. A recent EIU report valued Jumia (a leading online retail platform) at US$1bn in February. The company operates in ten other African countries.

Meanwhile, Konga, its major competitor, has expanded operations by launching a groceries segment. This is similar to models established in the UK such as Sainsbury’s and Tesco. However, logistics challenges across the country could threaten the shopping experience as delivery of products may be delayed.

According to Konga, the e-company has a customer pool of 750,000. However, there are only 200,000 active customers. The number of active customers fluctuates with seasonalities. We note that the rural population accounts for only 10% of its total active customers. This could be directly correlated to low internet penetration in rural areas as well as modest income levels.

The e-commerce industry has also witnessed reduced patronage due to increased pressure on household pockets in the current downturn.

We expect a token return to positive territory for GDP as a whole this year. Our GDP growth projection for 2017 is 1.6% y/y. Nevertheless, for e-commerce to attain its full potential, infrastructural issues as well as e-fraud challenges need to be tackled.

  FACTS ABOUT HIV/AIDS
User Avatar Forum: Medical Science
Posted by: Sholzy - 08-22-2017, 05:45 PM - No Replies

HIV and AIDS is preventable and it is treatable. You need to know the facts about HIV and AIDS, how it is transmitted, how to protect yourself, where to get tested and where to geo for HIV services and support.

What is HIV/AIDS?
HIV (human immunodeficiency virus) is a virus that attacks the immune system, the body’s natural defense system. Without a strong immune system, the body has trouble fighting off disease. Both the virus and the infection it causes are called HIV. Overtime, HIV can damage a person’s immune system. The last stage of HIV infection is AIDS (Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome).
How can HIV be passed from one person to another?
You can get HIV from contact with infected blood, semen, or vaginal fluids. To get HIV, one of these body fluids from an infected person has to get inside your body. Common ways of getting HIV:
·         Unprotected sex
·         Sharing unsterilized injecting drug equipment, sharing razor blades for piercing, etc.
·         From mother-to-baby during pregnancy, birth or breast feeding.
·         Infected blood transfusions or instruments used during medical procedures. (There are measures and processes in place to prevent this)

HIV cannot be transmitted by:
·         Surfaces- HIV cannot be transmitted by contact with toilet seats, eating utensils, sharing drinking glass, musical instruments, hugs or handshakes.
·         Air- Breathing the same air as someone living with HIV does not transmit HIV. Coughing, sneezing or spiting cannot transmit HIV either.
·         Kissing- Saliva contains very small amounts of HIV. The risk is negligible unless both partners have large open sores in their mouth or bleeding gums.
·         Insect bites- Insects such as mosquitoes don’t transmit HIV because they do not inject blood when they bite.
·         Casual contact with someone who has HIV
·         Tea, saliva, sweat or urine.
How can I protect myself?
There are many things you can do to reduce the chance of getting HIV. Know the facts and make the best choices for yourself.
If you choose to have sex, use condoms to prevent HIV and other sexually transmitted infections (STIs). There are male and female condoms. Condoms can only protect you if you use them correctly, every time you have sex.
Get HIV tested regularly and ask your sexual partner(s) to do the HIV test also.
Consider and avoid situations that might put you at risk of HIV infection. Remember being drunk makes it difficult to make careful choices about sex.
How can I find out if I have HIV?
Testing for HIV is the only way to know if you have an HIV infection. HIV testing is available from healthcare providers. Anyone can have an HIV test. Know you HIV status.
When Should I get an HIV test?
Take a test if you are…
·         Pregnant
·         Not always using condoms,
·         Sharing needles and syringes.
·         You should get an HIV test 3 months after potential exposure to HIV.
Get your test results and know your status
If you test HIV-positive –HIV has been detected in your body
Having HIV doesn’t mean you have AIDS. It takes a long time for HIV to progress to AIDS. When HIV is diagnosed before it becomes AIDS, medicines can slow or stop the damage to the immune system. If AIDS does develop, medicines can often help the immune system return to a healthier state.
With treatment, many people With HIV are able long and active lives.
·         Get the facts about living with HIV
·         Find out if you need to begin treatment
·         Get advice and support
·         Protect sexual partners
·         If pregnant, access services to prevent transmission to your body
·         Take precautions if living or travelling in places with high TB prevalence.
If you test HIV –negative- you do not have HIV
·         Get the facts about staying negative
·         Protect yourself during sex
·         Never share needles and syringes
·         Have regular HIV and sexually transmitted infection (STI) tests
·

HIV RESOURCING USING HEALTH INSURANCE POLICY
User Avatar Forum: Medical Science
Posted by: Sholzy - 08-22-2017, 12:45 PM - No Replies

Around the world, National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) has become an effective tool in financing health care needs of the very vulnerable people in the society. The rich are made to assist the poor buy contributing to a pool of funds and the government equally contributes into this pool of funds for affordable health care delivery system.

The National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) is a body set up under Act 35 of 1999 by the Federal Government of Nigeria, to improve the health of all Nigerians at an affordable cost through various prepayment systems. Nigeria under the former President Olusegun Obasanjo formerly launched the NHIS contributory scheme in 2005. So far, the system has worked for some people especially those in the Federal and state civil service and some organized private sector. Testimonies of beneficiaries of the scheme are loud and clear, among which is that of a 37 years old civil servant, Adamu Ali who works in one of the ministry’s in Abuja. Adamu who said his wife delivered twice using NHIS platform and having to pay a token (10% of the total hospital cost after delivery) was full of joy stating “this is the first time my country will give me assistance, it was like a dream when I was asked to pay N4,000 from the total N40,000 bill my wife incurred during child birth in a faith based hospital”. There are several positive testimonies likewise are negative ones ranging from delay in attending to NHIS patients, limited numbers of aliments covered under the scheme, stigma attached to using NHIS as patient are made to form a separate queues away from other patients, bureaucracy involved in getting dependents registered on the scheme and so other limitation being experience in the scheme.

NHIS coverage in the country is currently less than 10% of the entire Nigerian population and this are mainly people in the formal sector while those in the informal sectors are hardly covered under the scheme and this is a major issue the new Executive Director Prof. Usman Yusuf is battling at the moment. If our health care delivery coverage must increase significantly, more Nigerians must be enrolled in to the scheme and this can only be done if there is sincerity of purpose especially among the NHIS staff, government at all levels (federal, states and LGAs) and constant engagements with organized private sectors.

On the part of the Health Maintenance Organizations (HMOs) who have contributed their fair share into the problem confronting the scheme, it has been alleged that the HMOs despite drawing millions from the government coffers delays payment to hospitals engaged to provide healthcare services to contributors of the scheme thereby making these hospitals provide inefficient services to patients under NHIS.  In some instance the HMOs and the retainer hospitals collide to inflate numbers of enrollees or amount incurred all aimed at short changing the system which in turn affect the beneficiaries.

At this point in Nigeria’s HIV National response, the resources available to fight HIV continues to dwindles as foreign donor agencies are either cutting down or stopping in totality aids to Nigeria. The Director General of NACA Dr. Sani Aliyu has continue to stress the need for the NHIS scheme to become more effective than it is at the moment has it has the capacity to include among the many packages currently offered to patients, HIV prevention, care and treatment services. Dr. Aliyu said since the cost to treat one patient is known and the cost to run necessary laboratory test is equally known to NACA, efforts are on the way to work in collaboration with NHIS as an agency to work out modalities to include HIV services in NHIS package as this will not only fast forward the realization of the much talked about ownership and sustainability of HIV response in the country.

SMEs, e-commerce major ingredients for Nigeria’s economic recovery
User Avatar Forum: E-Commerce
Posted by: e-guru - 08-22-2017, 12:57 AM - No Replies

Mike Dola, founder of cokodeal.com, an e-commerce platform for made-in-Nigeria products that connects local manufacturers, producers and suppliers to global markets, has called for a conscious drive to strengthen the SMEs in Nigeria as a way to boost its economic growth, stating that SMEs are at the core of the development of any country.
Dola said he believes Ecommerce provides a huge opportunity for Nigerian SMEs to explore and expand into bigger and larger territories.
“We have created an ecommerce marketplace platform where Entrepreneurs in Nigeria can be indigenous and produce their own, because we have what is in demand in other places in the world,” he said.
According to him, reports have it that Africa makes up less than two percent of the global E-commerce space, and as a country with 89 percent Internet penetration, Nigeria has the capacity to make a 19 per cent increase.
“Throughout 2016, Nigeria exported goods worth N8.53 trillion as against goods worth N8.82 trillion the country imported, resulting to a 6.47 percent trade deficit.
“Also, crude oil export value of N6.99 trillion dominated exports from Nigeria throughout 2016 as against N1.53 trillion recorded for non-crude oil export and N344.37 billion for non-oil exports according to reports from NBS,” he said.
Nigeria is a huge export partner with countries like Netherlands, Germany, Belgium, India, China, especially with non-oil products. For example, in 2015, Nigeria sesame seeds export to the Netherlands was reported to be about 6000 tonnes and worth € 8.7million.
Dola believes that if most of the trade transactions follow the brick and mortar format- by leveraging e-commerce- these figures could have been more, processes could have been automated, thereby fast-tracking sourcing and business transactions.
“These days one can complete such transactions in the matter of days from the researching for prospective buyers and transacting with these buyers; through the help of internet and ecommerce. We see that happen often on Cokodeal,” he said.
According to him, “We are engaging with authorities and other stakeholders to leverage Cokodeal’s platform and commodities trade experience to help SMEs prepare for maximising the opportunities that E-commerce represent for Nigeria and Africa as a whole.”
According to Raymond Agholor, director of communication, Cokodeal.com, who was also present, said the company identifies with local producers, farmers, suppliers of Africa products, thereby promoting intra-Africa trade and connecting African businesses to global markets; though there’s still a lot to be done.
“SMEs in Nigeria have endured and thrived even in unfavorable conditions over the years; their resilience to stay on and keep surviving especially during the crumble of oil price and foreign exchange begging to be rescued has received praise from the international business world,” he said.

Why is smoking bad for you?
User Avatar Forum: Health Wise
Posted by: trustangel - 08-20-2017, 11:44 PM - No Replies

Smoking causes damage to nearly every organ in the body and is directly responsible for a number of diseases.
Every year, more than 480,000 people die in the United States (U.S.) due to tobacco-related diseases. That is around 1 in 5 of all deaths in the U.S. annually. It is estimated that 1 in 2 smokers will die from a smoking-related disease.

Smoking causes more deaths in the U.S. each year than the following combined:

alcohol use
firearm-related incidents
HIV
illegal drug use
motor vehicle incidents
Smoking shortens the life of a male by about 12 years and the life of a female by around 11 years.

Two poisons in tobacco that affect peoples' health are:

Carbon monoxide is found in car exhaust fumes and is fatal in large doses. It replaces oxygen in the blood and starves organs of oxygen and stops them being able to function properly.
Tar is a sticky, brown substance that coats the lungs and affects breathing.
The impact of smoking:

Brain
Bones
Heart and circulation
Immune system
Lungs
Mouth
Reproduction and fertility
Skin
Cancer
Health risks associated with smoking
Smoking affects many different areas of the body. Below, we cover each part of the body in turn:

Brain

Smoking can increase the likelihood of having a stroke by 2 to 4 times. Strokes can cause brain damage and death.

One way that stroke can cause brain injury is through a brain aneurysm, which occurs when the wall of the blood vessel weakens and creates a bulge. This bulge can then burst and lead to a serious condition called a subarachnoid hemorrhage.

Bones

Smoking can make bones weak and brittle, which is particularly dangerous for women, who are more prone to osteoporosis and broken bones.

Heart and circulation

Smoking causes plaque to build up in the blood. Plaque sticks to the walls of arteries (atherosclerosis), making them narrower; this reduces blood flow and increases the risk of clotting.

Smoking also narrows the arteries, making it harder for blood to flow, as well as increasing blood pressure and heart rate.

Also, chemicals in tobacco smoke increase the chance of heart problems and cardiovascular diseases.

Some of the most common are:

Coronary heart disease - narrow or blocked arteries around the heart. It is among the leading causes of death in the U.S.
Heart attack - smokers are twice as likely to have a heart attack.
Heart-related chest pain.
Carbon monoxide and nicotine in cigarettes make the heart work harder and faster; this means that smokers will find it more difficult to exercise.

Even smokers who smoke 5 or fewer cigarettes a day can have early signs of cardiovascular disease.

Immune system

The immune system protects the body against infection and disease. Smoking compromises this and can lead to autoimmune diseases, such as Crohn's disease and rheumatoid arthritis.

Smoking has also been linked to type 2 diabetes.

Lungs

Smoking can cause a variety of lung problems.
Perhaps the most obvious part of the body affected by smoking is the lungs. In fact, smoking can impact the lungs in a number of different ways.

Primarily, smoking damages the airways and air sacs (known as alveoli) in the lungs.

Often, lung disease caused by smoking can take years to become noticeable, this means it is often not diagnosed until it is quite advanced.

There are many lung and respiratory problems caused by smoking; below are three of the most common in the American population:

Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD): This is a long-term disease that worsens over time. It causes wheezing, shortness of breath, and chest tightness. It is the third leading cause of death in the U.S. There is no cure.

Chronic bronchitis: This occurs when the airways produce too much mucus, leading to a cough. The airways then become inflamed, and the cough is long-lasting. In time, scar tissue and mucus can completely block the airways and cause infection. There is no cure, but quitting smoking can reduce symptoms.

Emphysema: This is a type of COPD that  reduces the number of sacs in the lungs and breaks down the walls in between. This destroys the person's ability to breathe, even when resting. In the latter stages, patients often can only breathe using an oxygen mask. There is no cure, and it cannot be reversed.

Other diseases caused by smoking include pneumonia, asthma, and tuberculosis.

Mouth

Smoking can cause bad breath and stained teeth, as well as gum disease, tooth loss, and damage to the sense of taste.
Reproduction and fertility

Women who smoke can find it more difficult to become pregnant. Women who smoke when pregnant increase a number of risks for the baby, including:

premature birth
miscarriage
stillbirth
low birth weight
sudden infant death syndrome
infant illnesses
Smoking can cause impotence in men because it damages blood vessels in the penis. It can also damage sperm and affect sperm count. Men who smoke have a lower sperm count than men who are non-smokers.

Skin

Smoking reduces the amount of oxygen that can reach the skin, which speeds up the aging process of the skin and can make it dull and gray.

Smoking prematurely ages the skin by 10-20 years and makes facial wrinkling, particularly around the eyes and mouth, three times more likely.
Cancer

Smoking causes around 30 percent of all cancer deaths in the U.S. In the case of lung cancer, around 80 percent of all deaths are caused by smoking.

Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer death in both men and women; it is extremely difficult to treat.

Tobacco smoke has around 7,000 chemicals in it, and around 70 of those are directly linked to causing cancer.

As well as the lungs, smoking is also a risk factor for these types of cancer, among others:

mouth
larynx (voice box)
pharynx (throat)
esophagus (swallowing tube)
kidney
cervix
liver
bladder
pancreas
stomach
colon/rectum
myeloid leukemia
Cigars, pipe-smoking, menthol cigarettes, chewing tobacco, and other forms of tobacco all cause cancer and other health problems. There is no safe way to use tobacco.

The benefits of quitting
Quitting smoking reduces health risks.

The chances of having a stroke reduces to half of that of a non-smoker in 2 years, and the same as a non-smoker in 5 years.

Risks for cancers of the mouth, throat, esophagus, and bladder drop by half within 5 years. The risk for lung cancer drops by half after 10 years.

A year after quitting smoking, the risk of a heart attack is reduced by half. After 15 years, it is the same as someone who has never smoked.

Overall, once someone stops smoking, their health will improve and their body will begin to recover.

Pakistan plans to strike LNG deals with Nigeria, Algeria
User Avatar Forum: Oil/Gas
Posted by: Saybaba - 08-20-2017, 11:32 PM - No Replies

With an ambitious plan to double the volume of liquefied natural gas (LNG) imports this year, the Pakistani government intends to ink multibillion-dollar state-to-state gas supply contracts with big African producers – Nigeria and Algeria, The Express Tribune reports.
Pakistan is currently importing 4.5 million tons of LNG per annum and the volume will shoot up to 9 million tons before the end of this year. Projections show that Pakistan will annually need 20 million tons of LNG within three years and 30 million tons in five years. A draft agreement is to be presented in the cabinet for ratification before clinching deals with Nigeria and Algeria for LNG imports. This will be followed by the inking of commercial contracts for implementation of the proposed plan.
Although Nigeria LNG’s production dropped 1.8 million tons in 2016, the company still kept its position as one of the top five LNG exporters in the world. According to the International Gas Union’s World LNG 2017 report, Nigeria was one of the top five LNG exporters by share between 2015 and 2016. The order of top five exporters by share is Qatar, Australia, Malaysia, Nigeria and Indonesia.

Coach of African champions Cameroon, Hugo Broos, will announce his roster for two important World Cup qualifiers against Nigeria on Friday, August 25, a week before they face the Super Eagles.

The Belgian manager has decided to summon twenty three players for both games, he will reveal and defend his call-ups when he faces the media on the aforementioned date.

One player certainly not in contention to add to his caps is Montreal Impact defender Ambroise Oyongo, who had surgery in June after picking up an injury while on international duty.

The Nigeria delegation will depart the Akwa Ibom State capital for Yaoundé via charter flight on Sunday, September 3 and return to Abuja at the early hours of Tuesday, September 5.

The Super Eagles top Group B of the qualifiers with six points, followed by Cameroon who have two points after two games drawn.

Stephen Bannon Out at the White House
User Avatar Forum: Politics
Posted by: trustangel - 08-19-2017, 11:32 PM - No Replies

Stephen K. Bannon, the embattled chief strategist who helped President Trump win the 2016 election by embracing their shared nationalist impulses, departed the White House on Friday after a turbulent tenure shaping the fiery populism of the president’s first seven months in office.

Mr. Bannon’s exit, the latest in a string of high-profile West Wing shake-ups, came as Mr. Trump is under fire for saying that “both sides” were to blame for last week’s deadly violence in Charlottesville, Va. Critics accused the president of channeling Mr. Bannon when he equated white supremacists and neo-Nazis with the left-wing protesters who opposed them.

“White House Chief of Staff John Kelly and Steve Bannon have mutually agreed today would be Steve’s last day,” Sarah Huckabee Sanders, the White House press secretary, said in a statement. “We are grateful for his service and wish him the best.”

Mr. Bannon’s outsized influence on the president, captured in a February cover of Time magazine with the headline “The Great Manipulator,” was reflected in the response to his departure.

Conservatives groused that they lost a key advocate inside the White House and worried aloud that Mr. Trump would shift left, while cheers erupted on the floor of the New York Stock Exchange when headlines about Mr. Bannon’s ouster appeared. Both the Standard & Poor’s 500 stock index and the Dow Jones industrial average immediately rose, though they ended the day slightly down.

His removal is a victory for Mr. Kelly, a retired Marine Corps general whose mission is to impose discipline on White House personnel. A caustic presence in a chaotic West Wing, Mr. Bannon frequently clashed with other aides as they fought over trade, the war in Afghanistan, taxes, immigration and the role of government.

In an interview this week with The American Prospect, Mr. Bannon mocked his colleagues, including Gary D. Cohn, one of the president’s chief economic advisers, saying they were “wetting themselves” out of a fear of radically changing trade policy.

Mr. Trump had recently grown weary of Mr. Bannon, complaining to other advisers that he believed his chief strategist had been leaking information to reporters and was taking too much credit for the president’s successes. The situation had become untenable long before Friday, according to advisers close to Mr. Trump who had been urging the president to remove Mr. Bannon; in turn, people close to Mr. Bannon also were urging him to step down.

By Friday night, Mr. Bannon was already back at the far-right Breitbart News, chairing an editorial meeting at the organization he helped run before joining Mr. Trump’s campaign and where he can continue to advance his agenda.

Mr. Bannon can still wield influence from outside the West Wing. He believes he can use his perch at Breitbart — which has given a platform to the so-called alt-right, a loose collection of activists, some of whom espouse openly racist and anti-Semitic views — to publicly pressure the president.

And he may still play an insider’s role as a confidant for the president, offering advice and counsel, much like other former advisers who still frequently consult with Mr. Trump. Mr. Bannon had formed a philosophical alliance with Mr. Trump, and they shared an unlikely chemistry.

Mr. Bannon has indicated to people that he does not intend to harm Mr. Trump and he has promised to be somewhat reserved about other administration officials, including Jared Kushner, Mr. Trump’s son-in-law and senior adviser, and his wife, Ivanka Trump, the president’s daughter.

“In many ways I think I can be more effective fighting from the outside for the agenda President Trump ran on. And anyone who stands in our way, we will go to war with,” Mr. Bannon said on Friday.

But his former colleagues in the West Wing are uncertain how long that will last.

Joel Pollak, a Breitbart executive, tweeted after Mr. Bannon’s departure was made public a single word with a hashtag: “#WAR.” Mr. Bannon called
Still, allies of the president predicted that Mr. Bannon’s ouster would help Mr. Trump’s agenda.

“I think it’s going to be good for both Steve and for the president,” said Christopher Ruddy, the chief executive of Newsmax Media who has known the president for years.

“The president has a major hurdle in the fall, I think, in getting legislation passed,” Mr. Ruddy said. He cited several lawmakers who had told the White House “that they had a real problem with Steve because of Breitbart, and Breitbart’s been a thorn in the side for a lot of congressional Republicans.”

The president has struggled to overcome the dysfunction that has plagued his administration. Bitter feuds among aides were frequently showcased on cable news and in the pages of newspapers. Mr. Bannon was among those suspected of repeatedly leaking the details of internal White House debates.

“I’m going to nominate this White House for a Tony Award for the most drama, not the best drama but the most drama,” said Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel, who served as President Barack Obama’s first chief of staff. “I’ve lost track, eight months in, how many people have been fired? How many have left?”

Mr. Trump’s first year has been plagued by departures, including Anthony Scaramucci and Michael Dubke, both of whom served as communications director; Michael T. Flynn, the president’s first national security adviser; Sean Spicer, the press secretary; and Reince Priebus, who was chief of staff before Mr. Kelly.

The sense of chaos continued on Friday as Carl Icahn, a billionaire investor who was advising Mr. Trump on regulatory issues, announced he was stepping down from that role. And A.R. Bernard, a pastor on the president’s Evangelical Advisory Board, quit, citing a “deepening conflict in values between myself and the administration.”

By dismissing Mr. Bannon, the president loses the most visible avatar of the nationalist agenda that propelled him to victory. Contentious and difficult, Mr. Bannon was nonetheless a driving force behind the president’s most high-profile policies: imposing a ban on travelers from several majority-Muslim countries; shrinking the federal bureaucracy; shedding regulations; and rethinking trade policies by aggressively confronting China and other countries.

He was also an opponent of Mr. Cohn, a former official at Goldman Sachs, and Dina Powell, the deputy national security adviser who had also worked on Wall Street. Mr. Cohn is a registered Democrat, and both he and Ms. Powell have been denounced by conservative media outlets as being antithetical to Mr. Trump’s populist message.
Mr. Bannon had become increasingly critical of Mr. Trump, according to a person close to both men, complaining that the president lacked the political skills and discipline to avoid a succession of self-inflicted public relations disasters.

But ultimately, he viewed the president as losing sight of what propelled Mr. Trump to the White House. On one hand, Mr. Bannon told friends that Mr. Trump was a populist savant who had a deeper connection with the alienated white working class than any politician in the last half-century. But Mr. Bannon, a former naval officer, also saw the president as increasingly trapped by the generals he surrounded himself with, and moving toward an interventionist foreign policy.

Mr. Bannon complained bitterly about the president’s provocative and unscripted threats to North Korea and was especially concerned about a wider attempt to reassert American military power in the Western Hemisphere. He told his small circle of like-minded confidants in the West Wing that he feared the president would be talked into an intervention in Venezuela, where President Nicolás Maduro has been cracking down on the opposition amid a deteriorating economic and political situation.

Last week, Mr. Trump suggested that a military option was under consideration in Venezuela. Mr. Bannon told people close to him that the statement indicated the president is relying too heavily on advisers who want him to embark on “military adventures.”

Mr. Bannon frequently clashed with Mr. Kushner and others in the administration who sought a more traditional, globalist approach to the world’s problems. He also had a long-running feud with Lt. Gen. H.R. McMaster, the national security adviser.

There were different interpretations of how Mr. Bannon left his job, which had been long anticipated in Washington.

One White House official, who would not be named discussing the president’s thinking, said Mr. Trump has wanted to remove Mr. Bannon since he ousted Mr. Priebus three weeks ago. Since then, Mr. Kelly has been evaluating Mr. Bannon’s status, according to the official.

But a person close to Mr. Bannon insisted that the parting of ways was his idea, and that he had submitted his resignation to the president on Aug. 7, to be announced at the start of this week, timed to his one-year anniversary of working for Mr. Trump.

According to three people close to the discussions, Mr. Trump and Mr. Bannon agreed during the previous week that he would depart. But the violence in Charlottesville pushed Mr. Bannon closer to Mr. Trump; he encouraged the president to stand by his impulses in his response and, one of the three people said, sought to stay on longer.

That became untenable after the American Prospect interview, in which he mocked colleagues, though he later said he thought was off the record. In it, Mr. Bannon also contradicted Mr. Trump’s tough threats toward North Korea, saying “there’s no military solution here, they got us.” Privately, several White House officials said that Mr. Bannon appeared to be provoking Mr. Trump.

  SWANSEA V MANCHESTER UNITED(0-4)FULL TIME
User Avatar Forum: Sports World
Posted by: samxpress9 - 08-19-2017, 03:42 PM - No Replies

[Image: 5160.jpg?w=620&q=55&auto=format&usm=12&f...64250d4fc8]José Mourinho has been quick to stress that Manchester United are anything but a “dream team” but his players have made a perfect start to the season, collecting maximum points, scoring freely, failing to concede and looking like a side that have all the credentials to mount a legitimate challenge for the Premier League title.
These are early days, of course, and United will face much tougher examinations than those posed by West Ham United and Swansea in their opening two fixtures, yet there is something ominous about the fact that they have started with back-to-back 4-0 victories. Romelu Lukaku, Paul Pogba and Anthony Martial have scored in each of those matches and Eric Bailly now has his first goal for the club and his first in league football in 67 attempts.
It was Bailly who set United on the way to victory here, scoring just before half-time against a Swansea side that capitulated in the final 10 minutes. United struck three goals in four minutes during that period, courtesy of Lukaku, Pogba and Martial, laying bare the weaknesses in a Swansea squad that is crying out for investment on the back of Gylfi Sigurdsson’s departure.
The Icelander’s transfer to Everton, together with the absence of Fernando Llorente, who is still recovering from breaking his arm in a cycling accident in the close season, means that Swansea are without two players who contributed more than half of their Premier League goals last season. The fact that have failed to score in their opening two matches, and rarely looked like doing so, says it all.
It had actually started as one of those days when United needed to be patient, although for periods in the first half their frustration got the better of them. Marcus Rashford showed flashes of brilliance but also moments of petulance while Pogba was playing with fire when he clumsily fouled Martin Olsson. Already on a yellow card following a poor challenge on Tom Carroll, the Frenchman escaped with a telling-off. Had he not already been booked, it is easy to imagine that Jon Moss, the referee, would have shown a card.
Set up with a three-man central defence in which Kyle Bartley started his first Premier League game for 20 months, Swansea sat deep and soaked up the United pressure, threatening only sporadically on the counterattack, yet the home team could have been ahead inside three minutes. Cutting in from the left and with the angle against him, Jordan Ayew curled the ball with the outside of his boot and it glanced off the top of the bar. Whether it was a shot or a cross is unclear but David de Gea was caught in no man’s land.
Six minutes later United struck the woodwork. Juan Mata’s fine free-kick picked out Phil Jones and the central defender, who was totally unmarked, ought to have scored. Instead the ball came off his shoulder and hit the crossbar almost in slow motion. United were not so forgiving with a set piece later in the half. This time it was Daley Blind’s corner that exposed some poor marking in the Swansea defence, leaving Pogba with a free header. The Frenchman’s effort was flicked on to the bar via Lukasz Fabianski’s fingertips, bounced on the line and Bailly, reacting much quicker than Federico Fernández, who seemed to be expecting the Swansea keeper to jump to his feet, stabbed home.
It was an awful time for Swansea to concede, although Rashford could and probably should have opened the scoring 10 minutes earlier when he ran on to a wayward header from Alfie Mawson. Bearing down on goal with only Fabianski to beat, Rashford tried to lift the ball over the Swansea keeper but succeeded only in chipping it into his arms. At the other end Bartley headed narrowly wide from Carroll’s corner.
Bailly’s goal meant Swansea had to show more attacking conviction and they had a chance on the hour mark to equalise. Carroll, finding space on the left, floated in a cross that Tammy Abraham headed over. United seemed to playing within themselves a little, almost coasting, and were fortunate to get away with another Carroll delivery, this time from a corner, that somehow eluded everyone.
Then came the flurry of late United goals. Lukaku, set up by Henrikh Mkhitaryan and with all the time in the world, swept the ball past Fabianski from 12 yards. Pogba then made it 3-0, intercepting Carroll’s wayward pass, before playing a one-two with Mkhitaryan and cleverly lifting the ball over Fabianski. Martial, set up by the rampaging Pogba, calmly slotted in the fourth and United were rampant.

  Buhari returns to Nigeria today
User Avatar Forum: Politics

Nigeria’s President Muhammadu Buhari is expected to return to the country later on Saturday after spending more than 100 hundred days in London receiving treatment for an undisclosed ailment, his spokesman said.
He is expected to speak to “Nigerians in a broadcast by 7 a.m on Monday, August 21, 2017,” his media adviser Femi Adesina said in a statement.
The president left Nigeria on May 7 for London for a second of treatment for an undisclosed ailment, transferring power to Vice President Yemi Osinbajo to lead the most populous African country.

He had earlier left Nigeria on January 19 for London to “undergo routine medical check-ups” during a short holiday. He only returned on March 10 after an extended period of medical treatment.
He tacitly acknowledged that he was very ill, telling his cabinet members that “I couldn’t recall being so sick since I was a young man.” He also said he had “blood transfusions, going to the laboratories and so on and so forth”.
His absence in Nigeria since May 7 has birthed rounds of protests and calls for him to resign. But much like his aides, Buhari has consistently said he would only return to Nigeria on the instruction of his doctors.
“I feel I could go home, but the doctors are in charge. I’ve now learnt to obey orders, rather than be obeyed,” he told his aides on Saturday, his spokesman Femi Adesina said in an earlier statement.

  WHY GIRLS LIKE BAD BOYS
User Avatar Forum: Romance
Posted by: trustangel - 08-19-2017, 03:15 AM - Replies (3)

From James Dean to James Bond to George Clooney (pre-Amal), girls have always had a soft spot for bad boys. And now science knows why. Recent research has found that men who have vain and somewhat er, well, psychopathic tendencies usually get more dates than the average male. Wondering what’s up with that? Well, here’s why.

They’re more attractive.
It’s not your imagination—bad boys really are ridiculously good looking. Research has found that people with so-called ‘dark’ personality traits such as narcissism, psychopathy, and Machiavellianism—otherwise known as the ‘dark triad’ of personality traits—are more physically attractive than others. The study by Nicholas Holtzman and Michael Strube of Washington University in St. Louis found that narcissists, unsurprisingly, are better at making themselves look physically appealing. Which explains why it’s definitely not a coincidence that bad boys have both an amazing wardrobe and amazing hair—they work hard at it.

Additionally, those within the dark triad were found to be, “more likeable and had more confident body language, and more attractive facial expressions,” than their counterparts. In short, a bad boy make a darn good first impression. This works well in his favor because, according to the research, when we find someone super hot, we tend to assume they’re also smart, kind, and confident (even if it isn’t true). No wonder bad boys are so irresistible.

They’re more fun.
From motorcycles to daredevil trips, bad boys know how to have a good time. A 2016 study conducted at the Hospital Clinic of Barcelona showed that a number of women were attracted to bad boy types because they were considered captivating. “While they are selfish, rule-breaking, imprudent, and rebellious, they are also brave, temerarious, independent, and self-reliant—and they live frantic, galvanizing lives,” said lead researcher Fernando Gutiérrez. He added that this behavior could function as “a signal that the subject has such good genetic quality and condition as to live dangerously without suffering harm.” The study went on to say those traits included in the dark triad, such as neuroticism and impulsiveness, “are not being weeded out by natural selection and actually may confer an evolutionary advantage.” Therefore ‘nice’ guys with their reliably structured existence just can’t compete with their wild bad boy counterparts who apparently have nine lives to boot—it’s evolution’s fault.

It’s hormonal.
If you find yourself ogling the bad boy at the bar, you can blame your ovaries for that. According to research published in the Journal of Personality and Social Psychology back in 2012, women, in the week of ovulation, “delude themselves into thinking that the sexy bad boys will become devoted partners and better dads,” said study researcher Kristina Durante of The University of Texas at San Antonio. “When looking at the sexy cad through ovulation goggles, Mr. Wrong looked exactly like Mr. Right.” That means, during a certain time of the month, women can’t help but be attracted to the bad boy. (Just another thing to blame your baby box for.)

As much as bad boys are downright hypnotizing, it’s important to note that their charming ways quickly wear out. Although bad boys find it relatively easy to begin new relationships, research says that, over time, they find it difficult to maintain their mesmerizing first impression. In fact, they’re noted to be selfish, cold, and arrogant—pretty much the opposite of who you thought they were. (Just be careful because it could take several weeks before your bad boy exposes his true self. That’s because people with dark personality traits are skilled at keeping their unpleasant side hidden.)              Don't say I did not tell you Big Grin

He said the protest would be a candlelight vigil and procession that will last several hours to force President Muhammadu Buhari to either resume to work in Nigeria or resign as Nigeria’s President.

Chidi also promised that a 7-day sit-out will be undertaken as a follow-up if President Buhari refuses to vacate the official Nigerian property in London to return to work as soon as possible.

The broad permit granted the group includes suspension of parking in the vicinity of the area as well and protective police barricades throughout the duration of the protest.

Nigerians react as pastor Adeboye visits President Buhari in London

Nigerians have continued to react to the visit of general overseer of the Redeemed Christian church of God, Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye, to President Buhari in London.

The visit which was announced on Friday, August 18 has generated mixed reactions from Nigerians.

While some praised the man of God, many criticized him for making the trip to visit the president who is currently in London for medical treatment.

The nature of the president sickness has been kept private as his aides continue to tell Nigerians that the president's health status is not for public consumption despite his position as the number 1 citizen of the country.

In his reaction, Omotor Larry Aghogho said: "What is Adeboye doing with Buhari in London? What kind of visit is this? All these Nigeria pastors are always after their investments nothing more."

Ijk Pasteur wrote: "Ntooo to those seeing you as God. You've been silent over the atrocities going on in Nigeria, but quick to visit Buhari who couldn't arrest one single person when a pastor of your church was once killed. I'm sure there'll be a place in between heaven and hell."

Enobong Udoh on his part noted that: "Instead of religions leaders to stand with the poor masses and condemn the high level of corruption and Fulani herdsmen killing defenseless citizens, they are seen shaking their hands and smiling in front of Camera, cant imagine Jesus going to shake Pilate hand and smiling.

24 countries among dead, injured in Barcelona attack

Citizens from at least 24 countries have been injured or killed in the van attack in the Las Ramblas area of Barcelona and the coastal town of Cambrils, according to Catalan authorities. By Friday the death toll stood at 13 bystanders killed and more than 100 injured.
Authorities said so far, the youngest victim of the attacks is thought to be a three-year-old girl. She died shortly after she was taken to hospital.
A six-year-old girl of unknown nationality has also been taken to hospital with a cerebral haemorrhage, an official at Vall d’Hebron university hospital told the New York Times. France has confirmed that there are 26 of its citizens injured with 11 in a serious condition. The Spanish newspaper La Vanguardia, quoting police, said three Germans were also among the fatalities. Belgium’s Foreign Affairs Minister, Didier Reynders, confirmed on Twitter that one of its citizens was killed in the attack, and also said the Belgian embassy was in touch with hospitals in the area regarding other possible victims. The Hague said three Dutch were injured, and a Greek diplomat reported three nationals had been wounded – a woman and her two children. China also confirmed a citizen of Hong Kong had minor injuries, while the U.S. state department said it knew of one American with minor injuries. In Australia, Foreign Minister, Julie Bishop, said four Australians were hurt: two women in a serious but stable condition, and two men, who were “directly affected” and had retreated to their hotel to seek medical attention in the morning. One Australian is still missing, the minister said. Throughout the long, chaotic night there were urgent appeals on social media for English, Italian and French translators to make their way to hospitals and clinics to assist staff attending the dozens of non-Spanish speaking victims. Ireland’s Department of Foreign Affairs confirmed it is helping an Irish family of four caught up in the attack. A father of two, originally from the Philippines but who lives in Ireland was on holiday with his wife and two children, when he was hit on the side. He may need an operation but his injuries are not life threatening, Dr Emmanuel Fernandez, Consul General of the Embassy of the Philippines in Madrid, told the Irish broadcaster RTE. Overnight, many countries set up emergency helplines for their citizens caught up in the violence, and sent out warnings for those trapped in the affected area to remain inside while counter-terrorism efforts were underway. Spanish police meanwhile swept through the narrow alleys branching off Las Ramblas, past deserted outdoor cafes, where half-eaten plates of tapas lay abandoned by diners who fled for their lives. As Spain wakes, foreign embassies are still scrambling to establish, who has been affected. Many tourists are not believed to have registered their travel plans and movements. Spanish authorities are yet to publish the names of the dead and injured. Many parts of central Barcelona remained sealed off overnight, with guests told to stay in their homes or hotels, and the metro and most transport routes shut down. Families and friends have been split up, with police evacuating people to different parts of the city, and mobile phone networks overwhelmed. Catalan authorities urged those affected to stay off the phone networks and use social media to inform their loved ones they were OK. Facebook activated its safety check device for the attack, as it has done for the terror attacks in Manchester and London. In Paris, the Eiffel tower turned off its lights as a sign of respect to the innocent victims caught up in the violence, and in New York the world trade centre spire was lit with the colours of the Spanish flag. Graphic videos of the attack were widely posted on social media, with some chastising people who posted the footage for filming rather than helping the injured. So far, the British foreign office has received no confirmed reports of British citizens injured or killed, but Chris Pawley, 30, a survivor of the Manchester bombing, was visiting Spain with his partner and was in the area when the attack occurred. He told the Manchester Evening News he couldn’t believe he had been caught up in a second terrorism incident in fewer than six months. He had just left the Ariana Grande in May when the bomb detonated. Pawley said of Thursday’s attack: “There was police everywhere and ambulances, the shops started putting the shutters down.” “We have just come back to the hotel, as we were caught up in the arena attack – can’t believe it."

1. Only the cool kids had this pen with the many faces.

[Image: 6fe4e653-1ea7-4236-9251-d40f93913bb3-22a...-store.jpg]Don't lie, you've tried to push two pens out at the same time before.
2. This ridiculously large pencil

[Image: 6fe4e653-1ea7-4236-9251-d40f93913bb3-b0f...ldhood.jpg]
It still worked like a normal pencil, but in a child's eyes, bigger is always better. *sigh* Such foolishness.
3. This "mechanical" pencil
[Image: 6fe4e653-1ea7-4236-9251-d40f93913bb3-IMG_6908.jpg]
It was really very fragile and used to break anyhow, but foolishness made us look at it like it was better than the regular pencil.
4. This multipurpose pencil case

[Image: 6fe4e653-1ea7-4236-9251-d40f93913bb3-dc5...761329.jpg]
5. "Fancy" Erasers

[Image: 6fe4e653-1ea7-4236-9251-d40f93913bb3-car...er0119.jpg]
They always smelled great, and they tasted great too! Yes, I think I ate a few in my day. Please don't judge me.
6. "Fancy" Mathematical Set

[Image: 6fe4e653-1ea7-4236-9251-d40f93913bb3-mai...fcaf8c.png]
Even if it didn't look so fancy, so long as it didn't look like the "local" Oxford Mathematical sets, we always started at it with so much longing.
7. "Fancy" Sharpeners

[Image: 6fe4e653-1ea7-4236-9251-d40f93913bb3-iSt...Medium.jpg]
Okay, these ones were really cool cause we could sharpen pencil without having to go to the dustbin. So yes, being jealous of this stationery should be allowed.
8. "Fancy" ruler

[Image: 6fe4e653-1ea7-4236-9251-d40f93913bb3-ruler.jpg]
Somehow we felt like any ruler that wasn't a wooden, yellow ruler was definitely better. Stupid. So stupid.
9. Matching lunch box and water bottle

[Image: 6fe4e653-1ea7-4236-9251-d40f93913bb3-0e0...06d2b1.jpg]
I used to pack my lunch in a bag and look longingly at all the cool kids having lunch with their matching lunch box sets. Then I would console myself with the fact that they didn't know book and I did so I was better than them even know I didn't have matching lunch box.
10. "Fancy" sneakers
[Image: 6fe4e653-1ea7-4236-9251-d40f93913bb3-images.jpg]
Lord knows I was hopelessly jealous of the kids that came to school with these shoes. The thing will just be shinning and flashing anyhow.

Neymar set for home bow against Toulouse
User Avatar Forum: Sports World
Posted by: samxpress9 - 08-18-2017, 12:03 PM - No Replies

[Image: Neymar-AB-170818G300.jpg]After dazzling on his first appearance in a Paris Saint-Germain shirt, Neymar is in line to make his home debut for his new club against Toulouse on Sunday.
The world's most expensive player scored one goal and set up another in a starring performance as PSG beat Guingamp 3-0 away in Brittany last weekend to maintain their perfect start to the new French season.
The 222 million-euro signing from Barcelona has already taken to the pitch at PSG's Parc des Princes for an unveiling before their 2-0 win over Amiens at home on the opening day of the campaign.
But he was not registered in time to play in that match so PSG's home support are eager to watch the 25-year-old run out against Toulouse. In contrast, the opposition coach is rather more apprehensive.
"We are going to Paris to defend first of all, that is for sure. We will park the bus," said Pascal Dupraz, whose team did beat PSG at home and drew away last season en route to a mid-table finish.
"I believe in the possibility of getting a result in Paris. That is the beauty of football too. If I didn't believe then I'd be as well to do something else."
Dupraz, who has this week brought in Ivory Coast winger Max-Alain Gradel on loan from Bournemouth, added: "We will need luck and to have God on our side because clearly this PSG side is incredible.
"But be careful not to call this game Toulouse against Neymar! Paris will win the league, I think, and will once again go far in Europe."
PSG have been busy trying to reduce their wage bill following the Neymar signing, and have loaned unwanted Spanish forward Jese to Stoke City while agreeing to sell France midfielder Blaise Matuidi to Juventus for 20 million euros.
Meanwhile, they are apparently ready to pay another blockbuster fee of 180 million euros to sign Monaco sensation Kylian Mbappe.
The 18-year-old striker, who hails from the Paris suburbs, is keen on the move and while Monaco would prefer him to go to Real Madrid, the French champions have left him out of their squad to face Metz on Friday.

Dangote to Invest $4.6b in Nigerian Agriculture
User Avatar Forum: Agriculture/Food Processing
Posted by: Saybaba - 08-18-2017, 12:04 AM - No Replies

Dangote Group, controlled by Africa’s richest man, Aliko Dangote, plans to invest $3.8 billion in sugar and rice and $800 million in dairy production in the next three years as the company seeks to expand and deal with a shortage of dollars in its home market of Nigeria.

The conglomerate plans to increase its production of sugar to 1.5 million metric tons a year by 2020 from 100,000 tons now and is seeking to add 1 million tons of rice, Edwin Devakumar, executive director at Dangote’s industries unit, said Tuesday in an interview in Lagos, Nigeria’s commercial hub. The company also plans to have 50,000 cattle producing 500 million liters of milk a year by 2019, he said.

A lack of foreign exchange means companies are struggling to pay for imported goods, increasing the burden on local agriculture to meet demand for food from Nigeria’s population of more than 180 million, Devakumar said. “All raw sugar has to be imported today, same thing for flour milling,” he said.

Dangote, whose cement unit is Nigeria’s biggest listed company, has been investing in agriculture as the country’s government seeks to diversify away from oil, which accounts for 90 percent of the nation’s export earnings and the bulk of revenue. The economy, which plunged into its first recession in a quarter-century last year amid falling crude prices, is forecast by the World Bank to expand by 1.2 percent this year.

The company has established Dangote Rice Ltd. and will list the unit on the Nigerian Stock Exchange “at the appropriate time,” Devakumar said.
Dangote plans to cultivate 350,000 hectares (864,850 acres) of land for sugar cane and add 200,000 hectares for rice, according to the executive director. The company has ordered five plants for sugar milling and 10 for rice from Switzerland to be located in the north of the country, he said.

The Lagos-based company will finance the projects through “internal resources or equity funding” and loans from banks and export-credit agencies, Devakumar said. The funds will be used mainly to procure “farm-development equipment” as well as sugar and rice mills, he said.

Dangote is “at the planning stage’’ to invest in other agricultural projects including production of soybean, oil palm, palm kernel and corn, according to the executive director. It will support rice cultivation by supplying high-yield seeds, pesticides and fertilizers to contract farmers, he said.
Aliko Dangote, 60, has a net worth of $12.1 billion, according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index. That ranks him just inside the top 100 worldwide.

Found this interesting link about food and what we eat.

Barcelona will move for Manchester United target Perisic if they fail with moves for
User Avatar Forum: Sports World

Barcelona are desperate to sign a replacement for Neymar, who joined Paris Saint-Germain in a world record €222m (£198m) deal earlier in the month and the Catalan club have identified a number of targets to replace the Brazilian. Inter Milan's Ivan Perisic is said to be on their radar if they miss out on their primary targets.

The La Liga outfit's president confirmed that they will spend the money they earned from the French capital club, with Borussia Dortmund's Ousmane Dembele and Liverpool's Philippe Coutinho identified as the club's primary targets to fill the void left by the Brazilian. The Bundesliga outfit confirmed meeting the Catalan club, but made it clear that their bid was not close to their valuation of around €150m. They are expected to return with a second bid closer to the range of the German club's valuation.

Liverpool, on the other hand, are unwilling to sanction a sale after rejecting Barcelona's initial £90m ($117.1m) offer. The Reds have issued a statement making it clear that Coutinho is not for sale and have rejected the player's request for a transfer.

The Spanish club are now looking at other alternatives in the event they fail to sign their priority targets and according to Spanish publication AS, via Sport Italia, Inter's Perisic has been identified as the backup plan if they fail to land either Coutinho or Dembele.

The Croatian has been heavily linked with a move to Manchester United, but the Red Devils are unwilling to meet the Serie A club's €50m valuation.Jose Mourinho has confirmed that he is looking to sign a winger this summer and revealed United's failed bid for Perisic.

Barcelona, however, will not have a problem meeting the Italian club's valuation owing to their coffers being flush with the cash earned from the Neymar deal.

The Inter winger plays in a similar position to Neymar and will be a viable alternate to their primary targets.

Things are usually not what they seem to be. There is usually a game within a game, and a plot within the plot.

The first stories are usually smoke screens. Designed to lead you away from the fact. You just have to learn to filter the frequency from the noise. If that is not you thing, then just wait. In good time, the hidden hand(s) would be revealed.

The Nigerian Police are usually very slow when it comes to investigating crimes. It took them years to find Evans. But in this case, they were quick to tell Nigerians that this was a gang issue. They showed their hands when they gave that very early assessment of the situation. However, I think this is bigger than the Anambra State Police Command. I think they are just pawns in an intriguing chess game.

Too bad that human lives have been reduced to the value of chess pawns.

Keep your fingers crossed. The plot would first thicken, before it unravels.

During a training session, the facilitator collected a Nokia torch  hand set with fully charged battery. He brought a fresh egg. Then he puts the egg and the handset together and place them into a polythene bag. He tied the bag and told us to call the phone number..... Calling....calling.. ..busy.. busy.

When the battery is drained down,  he gave the phone to the owner and cracked the egg.
Behold the egg was cooked!!.. done!!!. We were surprised and asked for the explanation. He told us that every handset emits electromagnetic rays. That it was the rays that was responsible for cooking of that egg.  He also said that for  device to  be named " hand set " by international bodies is not an accident.

He said that it is never a pocket set. He went on to say that males (men) have egg resemblance in between their legs...scrotum. He admonished men to stop putting their hand set in their pockets,  but to hold on hand. If you continue to put set in your pocket,  the radiation from it will denature your spermatozoa and cook your scrotum . That is why our men will marry 2 to 3 years no Issues. They begin to blame their wife.  They will visit men of God for fasting and prayers. God will answer them and reverse the condition,  but coming out of the church,  they put back the handset in their pockets and continued to denature their sperm and cook their scrotum again.

Before a communication mast is mounted in your property,  you will be paid between 10 to 20 million naira as long as you sign a document the network provider gives you. People don't even read the document. Only sign and collect the pay. The document reads in part within the middle ( we are giving you this money to buy land in another place and relocate, because what we are about to mount here is dangerous to your health ) . If you continue to stay there in about 10 to 15 years period,  you and others living there will be suffering from one form of cancer or another.

Please guys,  don't be putting handset in your pockets. Inform your friends and relatives about the dangers. Ladies inform your brothers, male friends and relatives the same.

Putting phone sets in your pocket or inside your bra Can cause prostrate or breast cancer respectively.
