unknown gun men kills FRSC officers
User Avatar Forum: Crime
Posted by: trustangel - 09-22-2017, 08:56 AM - No Replies

Unidentified gunmen on Thursday invaded the Tsafe Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps in Zamfara State, killing an official, a witness told the News Agency of Nigeria.

The source said the hoodlums numbering over 20 stormed the premises of the command on motorcycles at about 10am and opened fire on the FRSC personnel.

“There was confusion as sounds of sporadic gunshots rented the air, while the road safety officials around scampered for safety in different directions. However, one of the officials was unlucky as he was shot and killed by the attackers,” he said.

According to him, one of the gunmen was killed by soldiers who quickly mobilised to the scene, while the rest escaped into the bush abandoning their motorcycles.

The FRSC Public Education Officer and spokesman, Mr. Bisi Kazeem, confirmed the incident.

“It is true that our command in Tsafe, Zamfara, was attacked this morning. A Deputy Route Commander of the FRSC was killed by the hoodlums while other members of staff escaped with one still missing,” Kazeem told NAN.

He said the Police and the Army had taken over the matter.

According to him, the Corps Marshal, Dr. Boboye Oyeyemi, has condemned the “unprovoked” attack but called for calm among officials and the general public.

Kazeem added, “He is confident that both the police and the army will bring the perpetrators to justice. The corps marshal has also reassured officers and men of the corps of their security and safety anywhere in the country

Obiano doesn’t deserve second term, Says angry Obi

The former Governor of Anambra State Mr. Peter Obi yesterday said that the incumbent Governor, Chief Willie Obiano has nothing to show for the mandate he was given by the people of the state, and therefore does not deserve another mandate from the people of the state.

Mr Obi who was in Nnewi for an interaction with PDP officers in Nnewi North Local Government Area, said that most of the projects he started and could not complete before he left have remained the way he left them when he was bowing out of office.Visibly angry, Mr. Obi made it abundantly clear that he is no more interested in contesting for any elective position again in the state and urged the PDP members to market Mr Obaze Oseloka who is the standard bearer of the party to all nooks and crannies of the area.

“I have no selfish interest in putting anyone into office, my interest is to ensure that the people of the state get the best, and equally fight bad governance anywhere no matter who is concerned.”

Mr Obi also stated that he has no personal issue with Chief Obiano and that the paramount thing to Anambra people now is to have a governor who will deepen his achievements in office by moving from Millennium Development Goals, MDGs to SDGs.

Reacting to a question on why Anambra people should trust his choice of candidate after the incumbent he helped into office has allegedly failed, Obi said that Obiano has not for once agreed that he helped him in any way.

He reassured the PDP faithful that better days lie ahead for them if they pitch their tent with Mr. Obaze who he said is a seasoned diplomat noting that Nigeria can not progress when some candidates are buying votes.

Meanwhile some of the people who attended the meeting, who are aggrieved with Mr Obi’s position told vanguard that the Governor should first of all publicly apologized to the people of the state, for deceiving them if he says that Governor Obiano is not doing well.

According to Chris Obieze, a participant in the meeting said “if former Governor Obi is telling us that the person he put in office as his successor is not doing well, he should apologize to the people of the state for deceiving us, how can we believe him now that another person he is bringing to us will be better, is there no possibility that he will fall out with this one when he enters office and he will come back to say the same thing he is not saying about Obiano, our people should be the last judge.”

*RHAPSODY OF REALITIES DAILY DEVOTIONAL (SEPTEMBER PDF => http://bit.ly/2cuJG6M

*THE LIFE AND NATURE OF GOD .*

Friday, September 22nd .
Pastor Chris

_*For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord (Romans 6:23).*_

Eternal life is the life and nature of God. It’s the transcendent life, which we have in Christ Jesus. He gave His life for us, so we could live and walk in His righteousness, glory, and grace. But until a man is born again, he can’t have eternal life, no matter how much he tries. There’re people who are struggling to please God; they’re struggling to live right, but don’t know how to go about it. You can’t live right until you have first received the life and nature of God into your spirit.

True Christianity is fellowship with the divine; having your human life supplanted by the life and nature of God. Until you have His life in you, you can’t live it. The Lord Jesus, addressing Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews, said, _*“…Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again”*_ (John 3:5-7). To be born again is to have the Christ-life imparted to your spirit, such that you come alive to God; you’re awakened to the fatherhood of God, and He takes up His abode in the quarters of your heart.

This isn’t something you struggle to attain; it happens the instant you’re born again: the life and nature of God is imparted to your spirit to enable you live right and produce fruits of righteousness. Your life becomes the manifestation of God’s goodness, glory, grace, and love when you have and are conscious of His life and nature in you.

*PRAYER*

*Precious Father, I thank you for your great love for me, which you demonstrated in sending Jesus Christ to die for me. I affirm that Jesus Christ is the Lord of my life, and His life and nature have been imparted to my spirit. I’m awakened to the fatherhood of God, and I express the righteousness of God in my world, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.*

*FURTHER STUDY:* *||* *1 John 5:11-13* And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. 12 He that hath the Son hath life; [and] he that hath not the Son of God hath not life. 13 These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God. *||*

*||* *2 Corinthians 5:21* For he hath made him [to be] sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him. *||*

# AFFIRMATIONTRAIN 22ND SEPTEMBER.
I affirm that Jesus Christ is the Lord of my life! I’ve been crucified with Christ, nevertheless, I live, yet not I, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the flesh, I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me! God’s purpose is fulfilled in me, and I walk in His perfect will today and always! Hallelujah. The Spirit of God has granted me the supernatural advantage in life. I’ve been divinely enabled to walk in righteousness, prosperity, health, success, and victory. I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. I know who I am; I am the seed of Abraham! The world belongs to me. I reign and rule over circumstances by the power of the greater One who lives in me! He lives in my spirit, in my soul, and in my body! No failure for me, and no defeat on my path; I am moving from glory to glory because the hand of the Lord is on me. Hallelujah.

Your comments are irresponsible – Wike blasts Lai Mohammed
User Avatar Forum: Retired Forums. Please Make Your Post Within The 3 Forums In General Discussion

Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike has said Nigeria is in severe crisis while everyone is living in pretence.

Wike said the country was in crisis because of poor governance, nepotism, marginalization and state-sponsored repression which had continued to jeopardize national unity and cohesion.

The governor also appealed to all well-meaning Nigerians to call on the Minister of Information, Lai Mohammed to stop stoking the embers of disharmony and divisions in the polity with his “irresponsible utterances and wild allegations against members of opposition political parties.”

The Governor said this while declaring open the All Nigeria Editors’ Conference holding in Port Harcourt.

The governor noted that the clamour for political restructuring, fiscal federalism, State police and guarantee for free and fair elections had never been so determined across the country.

He said the calls will never go away, pointing out that it was becoming clearer by the day that to ignore it was pretentiously dangerous to the unity and peaceful co-existence of this country.

According to him, “We are only pretending, we think that all is well with our country.

“The country is in crisis as poor governance, nepotism, marginalization and state-sponsored repression continue to do violence to nation unity and cohesion.

“At times like this, the country needs forthright leadership and consensus building to steer the ship of state from the wrong direction it is headed to safer grounds.

“Nigerians of goodwill must therefore call the Minister of Information to stop stoking the ambers of disharmony and divisions in the polity with his irresponsible utterances and wild allegations against members of opposition political parties. For some of us therefore, there is nothing nobler than being counted on this path and as long as God gives us breathe we shall remain in the trenches fighting for our democratic rights and freedoms until victory is ultimately achieved.

“But, we also believe that this is a fight that should and must be led by the media for full effect and agenda setting. This calls for greater vigilance and courage in giving effective voice to the contending issues and taking personal responsibility for factuality. Itcan’t be otherwise. ‎

“Therefore, when a supposed opposition goes beyond the bonds of decency in conjuring lies to rubbish and undermine every effortof ours to serve and advance the progress of the State, then the media owes society the duty to investigate and expose their mischievous intentions with the facts at their disposal.

NAMA Begins Competency Test Of AIS Officers, Trains Personnel On Search And Rescue Co
User Avatar Forum: Travel/Aviation
Posted by: Edoman - 09-21-2017, 11:48 AM - No Replies

The Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) has commenced a comprehensive competency appraisal of all Aeronautical Information Services (AIS) Officers in all airports across the country.

The exercise which is targeted at testing AIS officers in areas such as Aeronautical Charts, AIS Publication and Operations started from the Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Lagos and is to proceed to other airports in the country in the coming weeks.
In a statement, the Managing Director of NAMA, Capt. Fola Akinkuotu said "considering the pivotal role aeronautical information plays in safety of air navigation, and in the light of ongoing migration to AIS Automation, due consideration must be given to the integrity of data being disseminated to airspace users, hence this exercise."
Capt. Akinkuotu who said NAMA places premium on building capacity of staff noted that sustained training and retraining of personnel is being carried out by the agency to ensure they possess the competencies required to perform critical functions that impact on safety and for them keep pace with modern trends in a highly dynamic world of aviation.
Also speaking on exercise, the General Manager, AIS, Mr Kabir Gusau noted that the competency check which shall be periodic is in line with Annex 15 of International Standards and Recommended Practices (SARPs) of International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) and is necessary "to ensure that personnel demonstrate the required competencies to handle specific critical operations," adding that constant assessment would enable the agency to detect and correct shortfalls as they occur.
In a related development, Capt. Akinkuotu has charged Air Traffic Controllers who recently returned from a three-week Search and Rescue Mission Coordinator Course in Kenya to ensure that the training impacts positively on the overall safety procedures of the agency.
The NAMA boss who promised to approve the training of another batch of Air Traffic Controllers on the same course in November charged them to use the benefit of the course to improve on the agency's preparedness to handle emergencies.
The Search and Rescue Mission Coordinator Course which held at the East African School of Aviation, Nairobi Kenya is designed to equip participants with the capacity and skills to initiate Search and Rescue and man the Rescue Coordination Centres in a Flight Information Region (FIR).

This important annual event which was last held in Victoria Falls–Zimbabwe in November 2016, is expected to attract over 500 high profile delegates from the aviation industry in Africa, Europe, Middle East, Asia and North America.
Addressing the media during a press conference held in Kigali as part of an advance visit, AFRAA Secretary General, Dr. Elijah Chingosho said: “The AFRAA AGA is the premier gathering of senior global aviation executives in Africa. Annually, the AGA brings together global aviation leaders and stakeholders to take stock of aviation milestones and plan the future for the development of African aviation.” The AGA will discuss issues on the development of air transport in Africa in general and development opportunities for African airlines in particular. Air transport in Africa is an economic bridge – linking people, goods and capital to markets and industries and integrating the vast continent.
The President of AFRAA and Ag. CEO of RwandAir, Chance Ndagano on his part thanked AFRAA for the opportunity to host this major aviation event. He stated that hosting the event in Rwanda, presented an excellent opportunity to strengthen aviation in the country and further promotes the tourism sector. “It is a pleasure and an honor to host the 49th AFRAA Annual General Assembly and Summit in Kigali.   LASU-ASUU face-off

Following a sweeping dismissal of 15 academic staff members and two non-academic workers by Lagos State University, including the chairman and vice chairman of its Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) Head, Education Desk,Iyabo Lawal, writes that trouble may be brewing in the institution amid an allegation of witch-hunt.
On September 7, the management of Lagos State University( LASU) kicked out 15 academic personnel and two non-academic workers, while two others were demoted. The dismissal and demotion took immediate effect.

What caught the eye in that action is the dismissal of the Chairman, Academic Staff Union of Universities, LASU chapter, Dr. Isaac Oyewunmi (on the ground that he demanded for N50,000 from students on sandwich programme to process their results), and his deputy, Dr. Adebowale Adeyemi-Suenu (for unilaterally altering the results of 12 students already advised to withdraw by the senate of the institution.)

A couple of months ago, Lagos State Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode, received a letter. It was neither a congratulatory nor was it a love letter. It was an ominous correspondence from LASU chapter of ASUU to the governor. In no unmistakable terms, the union warned of a troubling development in the institution and of a looming debacle.

“Your Excellency sir, it is our responsibility as a union to sound a note of caution whenever we see these achievements(brought about by the governor) come under any form of threat. While a distant observer may be right to say that LASU is today crisis-free, it is equally correct to say, from history and experience, that there are pointers to potential crisis in the not too distant future, owing to developments in LASU over the last few months,” the letter began prophetically.

The union went to say that the letter was meant to nip any negative development in the bud, asserting that it wants the institution to be run based on fairness and justice. According to the letter, there were plans to dismiss the leadership of ASUU from the institution. We are aware of the malicious propaganda being peddled around that our union has perfected plans to embarrass your good self during your visit. This propaganda has been deliberately planted by the University Administration of Prof.Lanre Fagbohun using the instrumentality of its kitchen cabinet’s ‘radio BBC’ – the trio of Professors Adeleke Fakoya, Wole Omikorede, and Abiodun Akinpelu..

“As the letter intoned, not a few people, including Oyewunmi and Adeyemi-Suenu, felt short-changed by the system. But the spokesman for the institution,  Ademola Adekoya, asserted that their dismissal was based on facts and evidence.

“The decision was made by the Governing Council, which is the highest body in the school, and ASUU also has representation in that council. The issues were against individuals, and as you would have seen, some non-academic personnel were also affected.

hat is exactly what Oyewunmi has vowed to do – take LASU to court – because he felt hard done by the institution’s decision, claiming that he was dismissed based on spurious petition driven by revenge.

Following an interview with the embattled ASUU chairman where he debunked claims for his dismissal and alleged political victimization, Prof. Fagbohun addressed journalists to make counterclaims and reiterate the reasons why the institution kicked Oyewunmi and his deputy out of LASU.

“It is instructive to note that the fact-finding panel called the petitioner and four other witnesses. Oyewunmi also appeared before the panel. In their oral testimonies, the petitioner, Abiodun Alabi and others all of the 2003 modular year set of Political Education programme asserted that there was indeed a demand for the sum of N50,000 by Oyewunmi.

“This was corroborated by Oyewunmi in his statement on the audio clip of his recorded conversation with Dr. Abanikanda…This was the basis for the dismissal of Dr. Oyewunmi for misconduct as it relates to demanding money from students to process their results.“The cases of the two individuals had nothing to do with union-related activities. Thus, the university sees the frantic efforts being made by some individuals to make these cases a union issue as a deliberate ploy to distract and hoodwink members of the public,” Fagbohun argued.

The embattled Oyewunmi felt otherwise as he said categorically, “The problem stems from some people who were in the leadership in the past but want those of us who are there (ASUU) now to do things the way they did. And so, we have refused to do that and they’ve taken up arms against us.The LASU management is supporting them.

“I was alleged to have demanded for money. If you have the bulletin announcing a dismissal, you have two other non-teaching members of staff who were classified in the misconduct bordering on bribery. One was said to have collected N120,000; another one, N20,000. In my case, the institution said it feels I’m capable of an attempt to collect or demand for money and so, the punishment was dismissal. It is shameful. However, how long it takes lies to take flight, in a moment truth will catch up with it.”

According to the institution, those punished were not dismissed because of their affiliation to ASUU.They included Dr. Olufemi Soyeju of the Department of Jurisprudence and International Law, who was dismissed for allegedly defaulting on conditions of his training leave bond and abandoning his duty post. Also dismissed for defaulting on conditions of their training leave bond and abandoning their duty posts were Dr. Olawale Raimi of the Department of Biochemistry; Dr. Christiana Obagbuwa of the Department of Computer Science; Dr. Shamisudeen Badmus of the Department of Accounting; andDr. Fatimat Bakare of the Department of Chemical and Polymer Engineering.

Similarly dismissed for the same offence were Dr. Emmanuel Asapo of the Department of Chemical and Polymer Engineering; Olubukola Oyeniya, an Assistant Research Fellow at the Centre for Environmental Sciences and Sustainable Development; Ademola Adesina of the Department of Computer Science; and Mr. Lateef Salami of the Department of Microbiology.

Others were Dr. Adebowale Ademeso of the Department of Theatre Arts and Music, allegedly dismissed for altering grades in 16 courses; Dr. Olugbenro Odofin of the Department of Education Foundation and Counselling Psychology, reportedly sacked for altering 118 students’ results and awarding scores to students who did not sit for the examination in a certain course; Dr. Scholastica Udegbe of the Department of Marketing for breaching of laid down procedure; Mr. Olatoye Raji of the Department of Religions (Islamic Studies Unit), dismissed for alleged falsification his O’Level certificate; Mr. Ernest Odili, an Assistant Security Officer, dismissed on accusation that he illegally collectedN1.2m with the intention of upgrading the result of a student in 2012; and Mr. Ramon Alli, a former Head Machine Operator.

There is a seeming disquietude in the institution as those accused and punished because of one wrongdoing or the other have about 30 days to appeal against the institution’s decisions.Oyewunmi is definitely heading for the court. Others have not been as vocal as the embattled ASUU chairman.
In the letter mentioned at the outset, the union had claimed that its resistance to some of the actions of the institution’s administration that it considers dangerous to the system has made the ASUU chairman and his deputy targets of witch-hunt.It said, “Within the spate of one week, the chairman and vice chairman of our union have appeared before different panels investigating allegations – that we consider spurious – against them. Information at our disposal does not leave us in doubt that the administration has decided to deal once and for all with our union. Efforts are ongoing to frame some of those perceived as being too committed to the union on trumped-up charges, while some have also been pencilled down for summary dismissal as soon as it appears convenient.”

LASU VC does not see any invitation to Armageddon in the school. To Fagbohun, his administration did what was in the best interest of the institution. “The truth is that facilitating successful organisational excellence is always difficult. But not changing is fatal. For us at LASU, we will continue to create, nurture and motivate a culture of positive change. The university acted strictly in conformity with its rules and regulations,” he asserted. The die is already cast.

Already, the university management have directed the affected officers to stay away from the institution to avert further sanctions while the embattled staffs have dared the university. The union also appeared polarised as members are divided on whether or not the affected leaders should continue. At its recent congress which allegedly ended in chaos, some members insisted that Oyewunmi and Suenu must step aside while others maintained that the embattled officers must remain.

The institution has enjoyed relative peace since the appointment of Prof Fagbohun in 2016.Prior to Fagbohun’s appointment, the three unions in the university were embroiled in crisis with the then vice chancellor, Prof John Obafunwa and held several mass protests to drive him out of the institution..
ASUU who led the revolt against Obafunwa had accused the former vice chancellor of  victimization of its members, withdrawal of certificates of lecturers and abuse of due process by the university management.

Several protests were held against the continuous administration of Prof Obafunwa who was eventually chased out of the university during the institution’s convocation ceremony as he was pelted alongside his entourage with sachets of cellophane-packaged water by the aggrieved members of the various unions. The then ASUU chairman, Adekunle Idris insisted that the university community was tired of the administration of Prof Obafunwa and he must leave.

As a precondition for peace, the unions at a meeting with the institution’s governing council and the visitor to the university agreed on a single term of five years for the vice chancellor. With recent developments however, fears are that the 33-year old institution may be back in the trenches.

Will there be chaos in the institution that is no stranger to crisis? Will there be a political solution to the lingering crisis? Stakeholders in LASU are also wondering if Governor  Ambode will wade into the crisis now or wait till the feud between the institution and ASUU worsen while allowing the law to take its course.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested a suspected fraudstar, who specialised in issuing fake Canadian visa to his victims.
Mr Ago Oyewole, EFCC Zonal spokesman in Ibadan, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Wednesday that the visa-racketeering suspect (names withheld), had defrauded his victims of more than N3 million.

He said that some of the victims were allegedly charged between N200,000 and N1 million per visa.

Oyewole said his arrest was sequel to a petition filed to the commission on the alleged involvement of the suspect in the issuance of fake Canadian visa.

“Eight of the victims have come forward to volunteer useful information to the operatives of the Commission.

“Copies of fake Canadian visas were recovered from the suspect at the point of arrest. The suspect will be charged to court as soon as investigations are concluded,” the EFCC official said. Be careful who you give your money to always use the right channel

EFCC blocks ex-Minister Alison-Madueke’s offer to return for trial

Nigeria's Former Minister of Petroleum Diezani Allison-Madueke
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission on Wednesday successfully blocked an attempt by embattled former Petroleum Minister, Diezani Alison-Madueke, to return to Nigeria from London to face trial.

Mrs. Alison-Madueke had fled to London shortly after she left office in May 2015, and has stayed away from the country since then.

She later became an object of interest to the UK National Crime Agency which has since then being investigating her for corruption and money laundering. Already some assets linked to her in that country have been frozen.

Those familiar with the matter say she is barred from travelling out of the UK while the investigation lasts.

But it now appears the former minister is tired of staying in the UK, and now wants to return to Nigeria, where she is also being investigated for massive corruption.

As part of the plot, she recently filed an application before Justice Nnamdi Dimgba of the Federal High Court, Abuja, seeking to be joined as defendant in the trial of businessman Jide Omokore.

Mr. Omokore, chairman, Atlantic Energy Brass Development and Atlantic Energy Drilling Concept, is facing a nine-count charge along with Victor Briggs, a former Managing Director, National Petroleum Development Company; Abiye Membere, a former Group Executive Director, Exploration and Production at the NNPC, and David Mbanefo, a former Manager, Planning and Commercial at NNPC, for an alleged $1.6 billion fraud.

But counsel for Mrs. Alison-Madueke, Onyechi Ikpeazu (SAN), suddenly, on September 18, filed an application for his client to be joined as defendant, based on the fact that her name was mentioned in count eight of the charge.

He sought an amendment of the charge to include her as the seventh defendant, “in order to give her the opportunity to defend herself”.

In the said application, the former minister also requested the court to direct the Attorney General of the Federation to facilitate her appearance in court in Nigeria on the next adjourned date in October 2017.

That would have meant Nigeria requesting Britain to allow her travel out of the UK to attend the court hearing.

The EFCC however interpreted her action as a ploy to escape prosecution in the UK and frustrate the ongoing trial in Nigeria.

In mounting a strong challenge to the application, the counsel for the EFCC, M.S. Abubakar, in an 18-paragraph counter-affidavit, vehemently opposed the filing, arguing that, “the applicant realized she was being investigated, and she absconded abroad and sometimes in March this year operatives were in London, but her lawyers refused to allow the operatives interview her.

“My lord, this present application is a plot by the applicant to enable her escape prosecution in London, also to enable her come to Nigeria and scuttle the ongoing case which has already gotten to an advanced stage.”

After hearing arguments by both parties, Justice Dimgba declined to grant the application, and instead, struck out the eighth count in which the former minister’s name appeared.

The verdict effectively ended her dream of returning home after holing up in London for more than two years.

It remains unclear whether she would appeal the ruling.

The trial of Mr. Omokore and his co-defendants continues on October 5, the spokesperson for the EFCC, Wilson Uwujaren, said in a statement

*THE GIFT OF HIS NAME .*

Thursday, September 21st .
Pastor Chris

_*And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it (John 14:13-14).*_

The Lord Jesus gave us the power of attorney to use His Name. That Name belongs to you today; you have the legal authority to use the Name of Jesus. You can do anything in His Name.

Just before His ascension, Jesus said, _*“...All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost”*_ (Matthew 28:18-19). All authority in heaven and earth has been given to Jesus. Everything that exists in this world and beyond is subject to the Name of Jesus.

The day you were born again, you ceased to live in your name; you inherited the Name of Jesus. You’re therefore supposed to function in His place, with His authority and in His character. Your words carry the same power and authority as Jesus.’ His Name has power everywhere. It has power over governments, devils, principalities, and powers. Use that Name.

Not many Christians know how to use the Name of Jesus; they think it’s just a name to put at the end of a prayer; it’s much more than that. The Bible says, _*“And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it”*_ (John 14:13-14). This is Jesus talking, and He wasn’t referring to prayer, because you can’t pray to Jesus in the Name of Jesus. He’s talking about using His Name as an instrument; making a demand in His Name.

Peter did that with the lame man at the gate of the temple called Beautiful; he said, “In the Name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, rise up and walk.” He then got the crippled man by the right hand, pulled him up, and his anklebones received strength. The Bible says, _*“And he leaping up stood, and walked, and entered with them into the temple, walking, and leaping, and praising God”*_ (Acts 3:8). Amazing! In Acts 3:16 and Acts 4:9-10, Peter declared that the Name of Jesus was the instrument that performed the miracle. Blessed be God!

You have the greatest gift of all times; the gift of the Name of Jesus. Use it every day, and everywhere. When you demand something to happen in His Name, He’s back of it; He makes sure it happens, because He’s got the power. Glory to God!

*PRAYER*

*Blessed heavenly Father, I thank you for the gift of the Name of Jesus, and the power of attorney given to me to use it. By that Name, which you have highly exalted and placed above every other name, I live victoriously and dominate life’s situations and circumstances. Amen.*

*FURTHER STUDY:* *||* *Acts 4:12* Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved. *||*

*||* *Philippians 2:8-11* And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross. 9 Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: 10 That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of [things] in heaven, and [things] in earth, and [things] under the earth; 11 And [that] every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ [is] Lord, to the glory of God the Father. *||*

*||* *Mark 16:17* And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; *||*

IMF Puts Global Cost of Bribery At U.S.$2 Trillion Annually
User Avatar Forum: Crime
Posted by: trustangel - 09-21-2017, 12:54 AM - No Replies

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has estimated that the annual cost of bribery -- just one sub-set of corruption -- to be between $1.5 and $2trillion.

This, the Fund estimated to be about two per cent of global Gross Domestic Product (GDP).

It argued that the costs represent the tip of the iceberg, saying the long-term impacts are much deeper.

The Managing Director of the IMF, Christine Lagarde, said this in a presentation titled: 'Addressing Corruption with Clarity,' at the Brookings Institution, Washington, DC, on Monday.

It is believed that bribery and corruption is one of the factors that have hindered growth in a lot of African countries, including Nigeria.

However, Lagarde, pointed out that in order to tackle corruption, there was the need to acknowledge the problem plainly and measure its impact accurately.

"We all know that corruption is a complex problem often involving multiple actors who operate in the shadows.

"Consider just one example -- a bribe in the extractive industries. Yes, a local official may demand a bribe, or a government ministry may turn a blind eye, but what about the company who proffers the money? Surely, it participates in the illicit transaction.

"After all, for every bribe accepted, one must be offered. For this reason, as we assist our members in fighting public corruption, we also are committed to looking at transnational private actors who influence public officials."Private actors may help generate corruption through direct means such as bribery, but they also can facilitate corruption through indirect means, such as money laundering and tax evasion," she explained.

According to her, the case of the "Panama Papers," underscored the pernicious way corruption can quietly spread across borders.

She noted the growing consensus among members that corruption remains a macro-critical issue in many countries.

"It has become clear that systemic corruption undermines the ability of states to deliver inclusive growth and lift people out of poverty.

"It is a corrosive force that eviscerates the vitality of business and stunts a country's economic potential.

"Think of a government spending taxpayer money on a glamorous, but unnecessary new convention centre, whose ulterior purpose is to generate kick-backs.

"A year after construction begins, it turns out that funds in the social service coffers are somehow no longer available for their original beneficiaries.

"Over time, the money diverted from education or health care perpetuates inequality, and limits the possibility of better paying jobs and a better life," she said.

According to her, as this type of corruption becomes institutionalised, distrust in government grows and poisons the ability of a nation to attract foreign direct investment. The result is a negative feedback loop from which it is difficult to break free, she added.

She added: "Millennials feel this reality acutely. A recent survey of global youth revealed that young people identify corruption, not jobs, not lack of education, as the most pressing concern in their own countries.

"There is wisdom in this insight -- since corruption is a root cause of many of the economic injustices young men and women experience every day.

"Young people also understand another truth; corruption is not limited to one kind of country or economy -- it can impact every nation. From embezzlement, to nepotism, to terrorist financing, corruption's nefarious tentacles can take on different forms depending on the environment where it incubates."

Lagarde further said tackling corruption has long been a part of IMF work. She disclosed that last month, the IMF Executive Board took stock of the fund's progress and committed to confronting the problem even more directly moving forward.

She said the Board agreed that members would benefit from an increase in granular policy advice, and a candid, even-handed assessment of the economic impact of corruption.

"To achieve this goal, new methodologies are needed to better quantify and analyse the problem. That is why I am pleased that today's event marks the launch of two new anti-corruption research initiatives led by Brookings, the World Bank, the IFC, and their partners.

"Since corruption is often hidden and difficult to measure, new policies can take years to become effective. Meanwhile, some governments are reluctant to even engage on the issue because they see corruption as a political, and not an economic problem. But that is no reason to stop pressing forward.

"I believe the IMF can only be true to its mandate if we speak about corruption with clarity and offer all the tools at our disposal to help our members," she added.

Takeover negotiations : Arik Air files N20bn suit against FG, Ethiopian Airlines
User Avatar Forum: Travel/Aviation
Posted by: Edoman - 09-20-2017, 11:24 PM - No Replies

Arik Air Limited has filled a N 20 billion suit against the Federal Government and Ethiopian Airlines over recent claims in the media that they were negotiating the takeover of the airline .
The suit was instituted by the airline at the Federal High Court , Lagos against Ethiopian Airlines , the Federal Ministry of Transportation and the Attorney General of the Federation .
A copy of the suit which was filed on Sept. 6 by Arik Air ’s counsel , Mr Babajide Koku (SAN), Mr Chukwuemeka Nwigwe and Mrs Ezinne Emedom , was obtained by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN ) on Sunday in Lagos.
In its statement of claim supported by a 20 paragraph affidavit deposed to by Mr Chris Ndulue, a Director with Arik Air , the plaintiff asked the court to restrain the first and second defendants from further negotiations on its takeover .
The plaintiff noted that the Asset Management Company of Nigeria (AMCON) had taken over the airline on Feb . 8 which was challenged by its management via two suits already pending before the Federal High Court , Lagos.
According to the plaintiff , the suits numbers are FHC/ L / CS / 827 / 17 and FHC/ L /CS/ 826 / 17 , adding that the negotiations by the defendants will render the outcome of the suits nurgatory.
“The plaintiff avers that the agreement of the second defendant with the first defendant will be wide ranging and intricately affect every aspect of the plaintiff herein , including but not limited to the day to day running technical as well as financial management which will affect the plaintiff as being the largest domestic and regional airline in Nigeria .
“The plaintiff further avers that the action taken by the first and second defendants will have a negative effect on the country’ s image as the plaintiff being the largest airline will be pawned over to another country for management ,” it said.
The plaintiff also averred that the negotiations had caused undue hardship and irreparable damage to the Arik Air brand and ongoing investment discussions as well as unbearable distress to the airline’ s shareholders and directors .
It, therefore, asked the court to declare the negotiations null and void because the Ministry of Transportation had no power to transfer the management of the airline to Ethiopian Airlines while the suits over the takeover are pending .
The plaintiff also asked the court for an order directing the Attorney General of the Federation to ensure the investigation of Ethiopian Airlines by the appropriate authorities for inducing and interfering in the administration of justice in the pending suits .
It added that if found culpable , the airline should be charged to court for criminal contempt contrary to Section 133 (4 ) and (9 ) of the Criminal Code Laws of Lagos State, Cap C 17 ,Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria , 2004 .
The plaintiff also asked the court for an order compelling the Inspector General of Police to investigate the actions of the second defendant .
It further asked the court for N 20 billion being punitive damages against the first defendant for inducing or partaking in the interference of the rights of the plaintiff and the administration of justice .NAN reports that the suit is yet to be assigned to any judge and no date has been fixed for hearing .

RHAPSODY OF REALITIES DAILY DEVOTIONAL (SEPTEMBER PDF => http://bit.ly/2cuJG6M

*PUT IT ON YOUR LIPS .*

Wednesday, September 20th .
Pastor Chris

_*This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success (Joshua 1:8).*_

The primary principle for success and prosperity is clear in our opening verse: keep the Word on your lips! That means you’ve got to talk it. It’s not enough to have the Word in your heart; it must come out of your mouth. The Lord Jesus said in Luke 6:45, _*“A good man out of the good treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is good….”*_ The proof that you have the Word in your heart is that it comes out of your mouth.

Only “talking” Christians win in life. And by that I don’t mean loquacious Christians; I mean those who talk the Word. You can’t talk God’s Word consistently and be weak, poor, broke, sick or defeated. It doesn’t matter that you were born poor or sick, but if you talk strength, victory and health, you’d always be victorious. In Mark 11:23, Jesus said you shall have what you say. This is the way of success.

God is concerned about your success; He put you on earth for that. Notice again His recipe for a successful, ever-winning, vibrant, and transcendent life: _*“This book of the law shall not depart out of thy MOUTH….”*_ Your mouth is the key.

Nothing shall be impossible with you if you’d learn to use your mouth right; if you’d learn to speak the Word. No matter how hopeless a situation may look, you can effect a change with the Word. The Word of God on your lips is God talking; it’ll make you what it talks about; it’ll paralyze and disable fear in you, and cause you to heap success upon success.

*CONFESSION*

*My tongue is wholesome, and therefore a tree of life! I speak potent and life-giving words that are inspired by the Spirit. I’m a success for life, because I live the Word. God’s Word is in my heart and in my mouth, and it has made me triumphant forever. Glory to God!*

STABILIZING YOURSELF AT YOUR HIGHEST LEVEL OF FAITH .

Tuesday, September 19th .
Pastor Chris

But ye, beloved, BUILDING UP yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost (Jude 1:20).

There’s a big difference between the verse above and what Paul said in 1 Corinthians 14:4 which reads, “He that speaketh in an unknown tongue edifieth himself….” The word “edify” in 1 Corinthians 14:4 means to build yourself up; it also means to charge yourself. However, what Jude was talking about is akin to building a super structure, when he said, “...BUILDING UP yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost” (Jude 1:20).

The Greek word translated “building up” is “epoikodomeo,” and it means to build on something that already exists. So Jude, by the Holy Spirit, is talking about building a super structure on something that’s already there. So, by telling you to build up yourself on your most holy faith, it means the most holy faith that he was referring to is already there.

That “most holy faith” refers to your highest faith; your most sanctified faith; the topmost level of faith that you’ve attained at any given time. He says build on it by speaking in tongues; don’t go below it. You know, we experience faith at different levels from time to time. Sometimes, we experience a very high level of faith, and some other times, our faith seems to go a little lower than usual.

However, by speaking in tongues often, you build yourself up on that highest level of faith that you attained, and it becomes the benchmark. The next time, that highest level of faith becomes your lowest faith. Then, you operate from there, and get to another high level of faith, and keep building on it.

It’s one of the reasons we emphasize speaking in tongues. As you receive God’s Word, your faith comes to a peak, but you build on it; you stabilize at that topmost level of faith through praying in tongues. At that level, no adversity, challenges, problems can pose a threat to you, for you’ve risen above them. Do this and watch your life grow remarkably.

PRAYER

Dear Father, thank you for the privilege of the heavenly vocabulary, which you’ve given me to build up myself on my highest level of faith. My faith is the victory that overcomes the world! And as I pray in tongues, I mount up with wings as eagles, soaring in victory above challenges and adversities, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.

FURTHER STUDY: || 1 Corinthians 14:2-4 AMPC For one who speaks in an [unknown] tongue speaks not to men but to God, for no one understands or catches his meaning, because in the [Holy] Spirit he utters secret truths and hidden things [not obvious to the understanding]. 3 But [on the other hand], the one who prophesies [who interprets the divine will and purpose in inspired preaching and teaching] speaks to men for their upbuilding and constructive spiritual progress and encouragement and consolation. 4 He who speaks in a [strange] tongue edifies and improves himself, but he who prophesies [interpreting the divine will and purpose and teaching with inspiration] edifies and improves the church and promotes growth [in Christian wisdom, piety, holiness, and happiness]. ||

|| Romans 10:17 So then faith [cometh] by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. ||

Wayne Rooney set to be fined £300,000 by Everton after he's banned from driving for b

Wayne Rooney is facing a £300,000 fine from Everton after being convicted of drink-driving on Monday.

The striker, 31, was banned for two years and given 100 hours' community service after pleading guilty at Stockport Magistrates Court to being almost three times the legal limit.

Rooney argued he should be spared community service because of the expected club sanction of two weeks' wages but the judge ruled that punishing a rich footballer with a fine would be too lenient.Following the verdict, former England captain Rooney released a public statement apologising to Everton and his family for his actions.

He said: 'Following today's court hearing I want publicly to apologise for my unforgivable lack of judgement in driving while over the legal limit. It was completely wrong.

'I have already said sorry to my family, my manager and chairman and everyone at Everton FC. Now I want to apologise to all the fans and everyone else who has followed and supported me throughout my career.

'Of course I accept the sentence of the court and hope that I can make some amends through my community service.'The 31-year-old arrived at Stockport Magistrates' Court with his head bowed on Monday morning to face the charge. His pregnant wife Coleen - who was on holiday with their three sons when Rooney was stopped - was not present at the court.

Rooney's fine from Everton of £300,000 is the equivalent of two weeks' wages from the contract he signed after joining last summer on a free transfer from Manchester United.

It was a return home for Rooney after he started his career at Goodison Park, although it has been tarnished by this conviction which - judging by the severity of the fine - has left manager Ronald Koeman very unimpressed. The Dutchman said earlier this month the matter would be dealt with 'internally'.

Rooney has made a good start to life back at Everton, scoring on his debut and causing England manager Gareth Southgate to offer him a recall to the national team.

The striker turned this down and announced his international retirement - and it was while England were away in Malta for the 2018 World Cup qualifier when Rooney was arrested.

EFCC Uncovers Diezani's Properties in Dubai
User Avatar Forum: Crime
Posted by: trustangel - 09-19-2017, 02:03 AM - No Replies

The Economic Financial Crime Commission has said it has uncovered juicy properties in Dubai allegedly owned by former minister of Petroleum Resources, Dieziani Alison-Madueke.

According to the EFCC spokesman, Mr Wilson Uwajurean, the said properties are located in E146 Emirates Hill Dubai and J5 Emirates Hill Dubai.

The alleged pictures of Dieziana's properties in Dubai which were released by the commission and obtained by LEADERSHIP were 14 in number.

The anti-graft agency further alleged that the juicy properties by the former minister were proceeds of corruption which was acquired fraudulently as she cannot defend the source of acquiring the properties.

Acting chairman of the commission Ibrahim Magu, while speaking with journalists in Abuja, at the weekend, said the commission would stop at nothing in bringing perpetrators of corruption to book, noting that those who stole public funds entrusted to them must be meant to account for it.

He further disclosed that the commission would interface with the authorities of the Arab Emirate to effect forfeiture of the said properties.

It would be recalled that the embattled former minister has been facing trial in London over alleged involvement in misappropriation of public funds while in government .

A civil society group led by popular artist Charles Oputa aka Charly Boy had staged a protest demanding the extradition of Alison-Maduekeback to Nigeria to face trial.

But she has consistently maintained that she is innocent of all allegation by the EFCC.

According to the Warri monarch, “We (Itsekiri people) are peaceful and accommodating. We love our neighbours. Let’s fight for one another and then others will see our strength. “Let the Ijaw man fight for Itsekiri man, let the Ijaw man fight for the Urhobo man, let the Isoko man fight for the Ndokwa man.

“Invite us for your programme, when others see us together then they will realize we are one people and that we are not fighting ourselves.

“We must let the world know that we are one and they will be afraid to fight us. Our problem is divide and rule hence outsiders are (short-changing us)

“All the marginal fields and oil wells are owned by others, but if we unite then we will benefit. Let’s unite and live peacefully.” The Olu took a swipe at some of the Itsekiri political class who failed in developing the area when they had the opportunity.

He stated that greed and selfishness are the major plagues bedevilling his kingdom and called for a change of attitude.

The new chiefs are: Chief Olivia Agbajoh, Oyewumi of Warri kingdom; Chief Robinson Ariyo, Egogo-Iwere of Warri kingdom; and Chief Amanoritsewor Atiwa, Otsoro of Warri kingdom.

Chief  Agbajoh thanked the Olu for the honour done her and promised to use the title for development of Itsekiri and Nigeria.

[Image: Olusegun-Obasanjo.jpg?itok=PBbAy0Qb]Former Nigerian president, Olusegun Obasanjo, has implored President Muhammadu Buhari to establish a dialogue with the leader of the separatist Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu.
Mr. Obasanjo, who said this during an interview with the Newsweek Magazine, noted that the dialogue would curb the secessionist agitation in the South East region.

Mr. Kanu is the arrowhead of a new wave of separatist agitation in the South-east, which has triggered apprehension and unrest among the people in the region.
Due to the agitation and criminal activities in the region, the Nigerian Army recently launched its Operation Python Dance II in that part of the country.
The launch of the operation led to skirmishes between Nigerian soldiers and IPOB members, leading to a wave of unrest in the region, especially in Aba, Abia state.
On Friday, the Nigerian Army declared Mr. Kanu’s IPOB a “terrorist organization.”
Hours after the Army’s declaration, the South East governors’ forum at a meeting in Enugu also proscribed the separatist organization.
But Mr. Obasanjo said there was nothing wrong if Mr. Buhari established a dialogue with the leader of the separatist movement.
“I don’t see anything wrong in that. I would not object to that; if anything, I would encourage it,” he said.
“I would want to meet Kanu myself and talk to people like him, people of his age, (and ask) ‘What are your worries?’ Not only from the South East but from all parts of Nigeria.”

[18/09 6:29 AM] Innocent: Rhapsody of Realities

MONDAY 18 SEPTEMBER

You’re A Legal And Vital Child Of God

"Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God: therefore the world knoweth us not, because it knew him not (1 John 3:1)."

The Christian is the legal and vital child of God—a bona fide child of God. In 1 Corinthians 6:20, the Apostle Paul declared, “For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s.” That’s the legal aspect of redemption: you’re bought with a price. And now, God has brought us to live in His class of being, and has poured Himself into us, thereby making our physical bodies His tabernacle of witness; His living temple: “…know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?” (1 Corinthians 6:19). This is the vital aspect. The legal aspect made the vital experience of the God-life possible!

It’s like our righteousness, some still think that what we have is just a legal righteousness, no; we have a vital righteousness. God has given us His righteousness, and now, you have the ability to stand in His presence without guilt, condemnation, or inferiority. In 1 John 3:1-2, the Apostle John cried out: “Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God ….” This isn’t a promise, neither is it a prophecy. It’s a declaration of reality, a present-hour truth.

The vital aspect of our sonship is that when you were born again, you were born of the Spirit of God. 1 Peter 1:23 says, “Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever.” Now, you have the life of God in you; you have ceased to be an ordinary person; you live a supernatural life.

Rather than using the Greek word, “huiothesia” which explains adoption or placing as sons, that is, one who was taught how to handle authority, the Apostle John carefully chose the word, “teknon,” to explain that we’re vital sons of God; we’re born of Him. NOW are we the sons of God, not tomorrow or someday, or when we get to heaven, but now; it happened immediately you were born again. Galatians 4:6 says, “And because ye are sons, God hath sent forth the Spirit of his Son into your hearts, crying, Abba, Father.”

CONFESSION
Dear Father, thank you for the legal aspect of redemption which made the vital experience of eternal life possible. You’ve made me a partaker of the divine nature, an associate of the God-kind. I’m full of life, and I live victoriously to your glory and praise, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.

Did you know?
Manchester United's 33 Premier League wins against Everton is the second-highest total for one club beating another in the competition (after Man Utd's 34 v Aston Villa).
Ronald Koeman has faced Jose Mourinho five times as a manager in the Premier League without losing, a PL record.
Romelu Lukaku’s next goal will be his 90th in the PL. Should he score in this match he will become the fourth-youngest player to reach 90 (24 years, 127 days), after Robbie Fowler (22y 241d), Michael Owen (22y 324d) and Wayne Rooney (24y 35d).
Wayne Rooney or Morgan Schneiderlin could become the eighth different player to score against Man Utd having already played for them in the PL (after Hughes, Dublin, Ince, Gillespie, Berg, Campbell and Welbeck).

  THE SOUTH-EAST HAS BEEN RESCUED
User Avatar Forum: Retired Forums. Please Make Your Post Within The 3 Forums In General Discussion

The Personal Assistant to President Muhammadu Buhari on Social Media, Lauretta Onochie, has said that Nigerians should shower encomium rather than curses on the Nigerian army for rescuing people of the Southeast region from the antics of “a very sick-little Nnamdi Kanu”.

According to her, the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, has posed a threat to Ndigbo and all the South- Easterners who can no longer run their individual activities without fear.

She stated this in a detailed statement published on her Facebook page titled: ‘Python Dance 2 ~ Nigerians are Drumming for fhe Army.’

Onochie said: “We must therefore, thank the Nigerian Army for coming to the aid of Nigerians in the South East and safeguarding them from the antics of a very sick young man. Nnamdi Kanu appears to have a tie with a country where arms and ammunition seized by the Nigerian Custom originated from. Nigerians and in particular, Ndigbo in this case, deserve to carry out their lawful engagements, without fear of molestation, she said.

“I now understand why Ohaneze Ndigbo has been unable to stand on solid ground but rather has been on sandy soil regarding Nnamdi Kanu. What is driving their stand? I believe they are being tossed about by every wind of doctrine because of fear of reprisals from little Nnamdi Kanu’s boys.

“In 2015, at the beginning of the Buhari administration, and following the example of Anioma people of Nigeria, other ethnic groups in the South South, and socio-cultural organisations in the South East, including Ohaneze, distanced themselves from the actions of notorious Nnamdi Kanu and his IPOB. Not many people doubted that IPOB was a merchant of terror that tried to use fear, abuses, outright lies, manipulation of the truth and insults to colonise Ndigbo in something that is akin to modern day slavery.

“It is common knowledge but hush hush that South Easterners were being forced to fly the Biafran flag and to wear biafra memorabilia. There have been threats to lives and properties across the South East, and threats of rape to women who shun their hate campaign.

“For starters, Ohaneze Ndigbo is an association that was registered in Nigeria to represent the interests of Ndigbo of Nigeria. That is why it is called Ohaneze Ndigbo and not Ohaneze Ndi-IPOB or Ohaneze Ndi Biafra!

“How has the Ohaneze helped terrified Ndigbo who are living in fear for their lives and properties in the South East of Nigeria? They haven’t because they themselves have been terrified.

“I have confirmed, via personal interviews of South Easterners who live in Onitsha and Aba, that there was a great sigh of relief when the Nigerian Army was seen in the region. Ndigbo who live in their ancestral homes in the South East, are for the first time in two years, breathing a sigh of relief and freedom.

“You see, little Nnamdi Kanu, a college dropout, is immature and childish. The South East governors know and appreciate this fact. This was why he was asked to come with his father to attend a meeting with them.

“If Nnamdi Kanu needs his father to attend a meeting of leaders, how mature are those who see him not just as their leader, but as their God?These mostly uneducated, half baked and uncouth youngsters, went about the South East, intimidating ordinary Ndigbo, threatening them with death and violence if they refused to kiss Nnamdi Kanu’s toes.

“If the IPOB leader and his cohorts learned a good lesson from The Python dance {1} by turning away from their ways, there would be no need for a second Python dance. When your brother is in trouble, the least you could do is to support him.

“The Python dance is not just for the freedom of Ohaneze, so they can have a sound footing, and advocate fearlessly for ordinary Ndigbo, but also, for ordinary Ndigbo so they can associate freely. No one should have to be in danger or live in fear for not supporting a criminal agenda in a free country.

“As an Igbo woman put it, “If Ndigbo need to renegotiate their membership of Nigeria, it will be a discussion and that discussion will not be led by disenchanted politicians and definitely not by Nnamdi Kanu.”

“The Nigerian Army, has come to the South East to exercise it’s duty towards Ndigbo who have been held captive by the fear, not of some foreign aggressors, but of some youngsters who act under the manipulations and brain-washing by one who is delusional. Anyone who suffers from delusions of grandeur or megalomania should not be left running wild among law-abiding people.

“I do not understand those who are calling on the Nigerian Army to stop the Python dance. Nnamdi Kanu is running an illegal government in our nation, complete with his own Army, Police, Secret service, Anthem, coat of arms, passport and currency. If that is not an affront on our collective existence, I don’t know What is.

“Nnamdi Kanu appears to have a tie with a country where arms and ammunition seized by the Nigerian Custom originated from. Nigerians and in particular, Ndigbo in this case, deserve to carry out their lawful engagements, without fear of molestation.

“We must therefore, thank the Nigerian Army for coming to the aid of Nigerians in the South East and safeguarding them from the antics of a very sick young man.”

*REIGNING THROUGH WORDS .*

Sunday, September 17th .
Pastor Chris

_*For if by one man’s offence death reigned by one; much more they which receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness SHALL REIGN IN LIFE BY ONE, JESUS CHRIST (Romans 5:17).*_

Something important that you must do today is to meditate on our opening verse until it becomes a part of your system. The Amplified Classic Version renders the latter part rather beautifully. It says those who have received this gift of righteousness shall reign as kings in life. That’s talking about reigning in the earth; a kingly life on earth.

Revelation 5:10 says, _*“And hast made us unto our God kings and priests: and we shall reign on the earth.”*_ Let’s examine one striking quality of a king in Ecclesiastes 8:4. It says, _*“Where the word of a king is, there is power….”*_ Kings reign with words. You’re a king; therefore, reign with words. When you command fear to go, it goes! If you’re attacked by any kind of sickness, and you call it by name and command it to go, it’s got to quit! Everything in life has intelligence; they’re intelligent enough to recognize when the king gives the word, and that king is YOU!

Can you see why you ought to speak right and never paralyze your own faith? When you feel symptoms of sickness or disease in your body, don’t succumb! Just say the word and effect a change! Every word you say goes out in the spirit-realm to cause changes.

Jesus said in John 6:63, _*“…the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life,”*_ and you’re like Him (1 John 4:17). Refuse to speak empty, idle, inoperative, nonworking words. Ordinary men may talk anyhow, but not you! You’re a spiritual man; your words have creative power.

Take your place of dominion, and reign in the Name of Jesus over circumstances, through words. Command every storm to be still in the Name of Jesus. Refuse the down life. Reign and rule in life as the king that you are, through words.

*PRAYER*

*Dear Father, I thank you for the gift of righteousness that gives me boldness in your presence, and causes me to reign in life as a king. I speak the right words only, thereby effecting changes in my family, health, business and ministry. I walk in righteousness, and produce works of righteousness, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.*

*FURTHER STUDY:* *||* *Revelation 1:6* And hath made us kings and priests unto God and his Father; to him [be] glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen. *||*

*||* *Mark 11:23* For verily I say unto you, That whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith. *||*

The rise of the internet farmers

[Image: Farm-Worker-Laptop-Farmer-1-of-1.jpg?res...C500&ssl=1]
When you think of farming, the image of a farmer in a remote village, working everyday under the sun, with basic farming tools comes to mind. Such image hardly inspires confidence in farming. Well, all of that is beginning to change.

I journeyed to Ijebu-Ode, a small commercial town South-West of Nigeria, one wet afternoon. There, I met a young man named Femi. He took me to his farm — a sea of green vegetation which flows spectacularly towards the horizon.

[Image: Startup-Feature-Laptop-Farmers-86-of-129...C683&ssl=1]

“This (pointing to a particular portion of it) is a 10-hectare farmland belonging to one Mr Daniel who is based in the UK”, Femi tells me, “He is a chartered accountant and one of my biggest clients.”

Femi is into the business of managing farmlands for his numerous clients; from acquiring the lands to planting, harvesting and then sales. “I have been in this business for over 2 years. I also grew up in a family that cherishes farming a lot,” he remarks.

Majority of Femi’s clients are white collar workers. Their knowledge of farming is between little and average, so they rely on the experience of Femi and a WhatsApp group he created to receive updates about their farmlands.

Screenshot of Femi’s WhatsApp group

WhatsApp groups no doubt are increasing in popularity, as people use them for different purposes. For Femi, this is the perfect avenue to keep in regular touch with his clients. However, using WhatsApp to manage an agro project has its challenges.
Ade, one of Femi’s clients, laments about the pain of waiting days on Femi to upload pictures of farm progress on the group. “Sometimes he simply doesn’t give us any and that is our major grouse with him,” he tells me.
“Farming itself is big work; professional farm management is harder,” Ade admits. I couldn’t agree more with him.
Combining the work of managing the farms with being the group’s admin can be tedious work. For just one person, it is inefficient. There’s an easier way to go about these tasks. The technology that makes it possible does more than just sharing real-time updates to allay farm owners’ worry.

Technology as an enabler

Beyond the many ways in which technology is advancing farming operations, it has simply also turned farming itself into a real business. Few days before Ijebu-Ode, I met and discussed with Onyeka Akumah, CEO of Farmcrowdy, a digital agriculture platform, to get insight into how technology is driving the business.

“It’s amazing what we can do with technology. With our model which enables us to use technology to crowdfund investment for farmers, we are able to increase both output and revenue at the same time.”

According to Onyeka, one vital aspect of decision making when it comes to owning or sponsoring farms is the monitoring and evaluation (M&E) facet. Any system providing for such must be designed in a way that allows potential sponsors easily decide whether they want to commit investment in farms. More importantly, it must be free of all bottlenecks that impede trust in the system.
“Right from their mobile phones and laptops, they should be able to get help without consulting anybody,” Onyeka says.
One investor who has experienced first-hand how seamless this technology can be is Subomi Plumptre, a social media personnel. Rather than patronise one-man operations like Femi’s, she opts for a more organised platform. She narrates her experience on her personal blog.
Quote:“My first investment was a sponsorship of investment on 5 farms. The tenure was a few months. The subscription process was easy and I had the option of registering with my email address or logging in via Facebook. I filled all the information on the website and paid via WebPay at 8 pm. As a social media professional, I loved the fact that I could conduct the entire process remotely, without talking to anyone on the phone. I received fortnightly updates on the farms with pictures and was given the option of visiting the farms in person to verify progress. After the investment period, I received my principal and profit (of about 20%) as a credit to my bank account.”
With advanced technology making it possible to carry out (virtual) farm management with ease, I wonder why Femi is still stuck with a WhatsApp group.

He assures me he is working on “something” that will automate many of his processes and bring in more reward to his investors.
The scope of investment farming in Nigeria
Comparing modern farming with traditional farming methods, one can see numerous advantages — not getting one’s hands dirty, the allure of extra cash, to mention a few.

[Image: Venture-platform-cogort-15-of-15.jpg?res...C683&ssl=1]

If Mr Daniel living in the UK could operate farmlands in Nigeria, one wonders if Nigerians resident in the country are keying into this opportunity.

According to the Efina demographic profile of the Nigerian population, the total adult (18 years and above) population is 96.4 million, of which 59.6 million (61.9%) live in rural areas. Shockingly, only 18.4 million adults (19.1%) get their income from either subsistence or commercial farming, while a mere 7.9 million (4.2%) get their main income from the formal sector.

Femi

There are at least one million hectares of government-owned farmland available for farming in remote villages across Nigeria, managed by the River Basin Development Authorities (RBA), Agricultural Development Projects (ADPs) and farm settlement schemes. These farmlands are leased at about ₦1, 000 per hectare (a hectare is equivalent to two and a half acres) for a period of about eight months.

But Femi argues that the price quoted for the land is subjective as one still has to pass through the local community elders to get proper pricing.
“It could be ₦5000 for individuals with 1 or 2 hectares and ₦10,000 for corporate or large farmers,” he adds, “These variations among others is one of the reasons why there is a general lack of knowledge on how best to secure these farmlands.”
Perhaps if the information is readily available to Nigerians, more people could come out to invest in farms and hopefully give the economy a boost in the face of diversification.

Possible ripple effects on the economy

Nigeria’s unemployment rate is unbelievably alarming, rising for the ninth consecutive time since Q4 2014.
                 Source: National Bureau of Statistics

And as oil prices drop, we can turn our attention elsewhere. From the look of things, there’s enough incentive now to look into investment farming, as it holds attraction not only for farmers but also for individual investors willing to let others do the spadework.

For instance, Femi explains that a hectare of maize farm can yield 4 to 7 tons of grains. A ton, as at the time I spoke with Femi, sells for ₦140,000.
“With a principal investment of ₦150,000 — ₦200,000, you could reap about ₦500,000,” he explains, “That’s over 200% profit margin from maize only in less than six months”.

[Image: Startup-Feature-Laptop-Farmers-83-of-129...C683&ssl=1]
“Yet one could seize the opportunity of planting and rotating different kinds of crops on same or multiple farms” he is convinced.

I visited Abuja within the same period and found out one does not need that
much to invest in farms.

There, Thrive Agric, another agro crowdfunding platform with a proprietary right to over 130 hectares of arable land in Rijana — a rural community in Kaduna — alone, receives sponsorship from investors for certain farms at a considerably less amount.
[Image: IMG_20170805_120745.jpg?resize=1024%2C576&ssl=1]

A rice farm in Rijana LGA Kaduna

One of the co-founders, Uka Eje, tells me they market harvested produce even before it is planted.

“We get a forward contract and a lease of intent from off-takers (processing companies) who show interest in buying the commodity. From there we already know how much we are selling and how much is due to sponsors upon harvest,” he says.

Nigeria is reported to have over 82 million hectares of arable land and a climate that allows all year farming of crops like maize, cassava, cocoa, rice, sorghum, groundnuts, palm oil. Unfortunately, only about 40% has been cultivated.

If properly utilised, the ripple effects would encourage many “internet farmers” like Daniel and Subomi to come out of their shells and embrace farming; creating in the process, a steady stream of income that keeps many from falling into perpetual poverty while also catapulting others into Nigeria’s growing middle-class. Again, the good thing is one doesn’t necessarily have to be involved in the day-to-day grunt work as the case may be. From a laptop or mobile phone with a little money, anybody can access this goldmine of an opportunity.

The idea that everybody should own a farm is amazing. No doubt in the coming years, more investors will likely look into the agro sector. But while that’s a boon for the sector, Carol, a hands-on farmer based in the highbrow Ajah axis of Lagos, says that some of the investment adverts she has seen are too good to be true. She advises that potential investors do due diligence to ensure that the investment is genuine and viable.

“They also need to approach it with the mindset that anything could go wrong and they could have lower than advertised returns or lose their investment completely,” she adds.

[Image: Startup-Feature-Laptop-Farmers-70-of-129...C683&ssl=1]
Gbadebo

Femi’s companion, Gbadegbo also warns that the consequences of an unguarded influx could birth a demand and supply problem. He advises potential investors to focus on growing varieties as opposed to growing a particular breed of crop.

In all, I see there’s an opportunity here for Nigerians to take advantage of. Thanks to technology, it’s not so much of hard work after all.

BREAKING: Four killed as gunmen invade Hausa community in Asaba
User Avatar Forum: Crime
Posted by: trustangel - 09-16-2017, 10:05 AM - No Replies

No fewer than four persons have been killed in Asaba, the Delta State capital.

The suspected assailants, who invaded an Hausa/Fulani settlement at about 10pm Friday night at the Abraka market within the Asaba metropolis, killed three men, one woman and left several others with injuries.

The suspected killers shot sporadically as people slept and later threw bomb into a Mosque around an area called Cable point.

Vanguard reports that a brave Hausa man picked up the bomb and threw it into the river before it could explode.

A source told the newspaper that soldiers and policemen came to their rescue and chased the suspected invaders away.

He said the security agents took the injured persons to the hospital for treatment and deposited the corpse of the deceased at the mortuary.

DAILY POST reported yesterday that following the face-off between the Nigerian Army and members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), the Police in Delta state have heightened security in Asaba.

Operatives have been deployed to areas like Okwe, a settlement for IPOB and other Biafra agitators.

The area is close to the River Niger which is the boundary between Delta State and states in the South-East.#isnigeriaacountryatwar

3 nabbed by EFCC for impersonating Bayelsa Gov, NDDC boss
User Avatar Forum: Crime

Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has arrested two persons, Tasiu Ismail and Haruna Ismail, suspected to have cloned the Facebook account of the Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, Mr. Nsima Ekere.
The commission also arrested one Okunado Rowland Chimezie, for allegedly impersonating top government officials, including the Governor of Bayelsa State, Hon. Seriake Dickson and chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Rivers State, Chief Felix Amaechi Obuah.
South-South Zonal Director of EFCC, Ishaq Salihu, disclosed this in Port Harcourt the Rivers State capital, while formally handing over six Access Bank Manager’s cheque worth N36.1 million to the proprietor of Jephthah International Secondary School, Port Harcourt, Ifeoma Edith Chukwuogo, yesterday.
Salihu said, “We have gotten one Tasiu Ismail and Haruna Ismail, who cloned the Facebook page of Nsima Ekere, the Managing Director of NDDC, to lure gullible Nigerians into believing that they have jobs and should apply to get the job.
“We also, through a synergy with a sister security agency, got one Okunado Rowland Chimezie, who impersonate politicians. He cloned the facebook accounts of Governor Seriake Dickson of Bayelsa State and that of Brother Felix Obuah, the PDP chairman of Rivers State, among others. They promised youths that they will grant them loans and in turn demand for huge amounts of money from them.”
He explained that the bank drafts were to compensate Jephthah International School, following the defrauding of the school by its Accounting Officer and staff of Access Bank, one Cyril Amaechi Ndakoji.
“The Proprietress of Jephthah International School reported to her banker, Access Bank that some of her cheques cannot be cashed. In the evening of that day, Access Bank International, through their representative reported the matter to the EFCC to look into the matter.
“Investigators immediately swung into action, and the culprit, the principal suspect and his accomplices were arrested. The proceeds of the crime have been recovered substantially.
“We realised that he has built a one-three bedroom apartment and two two-bedroom apartments from the proceeds of his criminal activity. He is a marketer and Accounts Officer of Jephthah International School. He was literally robbing Peter to pay Paul. When the centre could not hold, the school realised that their cheques could not be honoured, reported back to the bank to find out what was happening.
“Earlier on, he had gotten one of his accomplices in the person of Oboma Chisom, who posed as a Customer Relations Officer of Access Bank to place a call to the Administrator of Jephthah International School, that she should tarry a while, that the bank is actually having some network problems and that her cheques will be honoured within a short period of time. Nothing could be further from the truth that the bank was never in any distress.
“To ensure that he completes his nefarious acts, he also got in touch with one Adebayo Aderin, who helped him in designing, printing letter-headed papers of another organization where he is also the Account Officer. He took money from that organization and now paid Jephthah’s proprietor as salary in honour of Jephthah International School.
“He was trying to balance two different accounts at the same time. We have gone for interim forfeiture order to enable us seized the property he acquired with proceeds from the crime,” he stated.

Senate Committee to Expose Banks Used for MMM

Posted by: trustangel - 09-16-2017, 09:46 AM - No Replies

The Senate Committee on Information Communication Technology and Cybercrime has vowed to expose commercial banks used to perpetuate the fraud by the Mavro Mondial Movement (MMM) scheme which collapsed recently, robbing participants of a yet-to-be determined amount of money.

The committee's Vice Chairman, Senator Foster Ogolo (Bayelse West), while speaking yesterday at a meeting with some stakeholders in the financial sector including the Centra Foster OgoloMavro Mondial Movementl Bank of Nigeria (CBN), said the banks would be sanctioned.

He disclosed that an international expert specialising at revealing cyberspace and banking crimes was already in Nigeria at the invitation of the committee over the matter.

This, he said, was necessary to ensure that banking platforms are not used for such fraud in the future.

"We need to secure our cyberspace and financial sector against all forms of crimes or frauds as seen with the MMM operators who came in collaborations with insiders, expressly entered into the banking system, duped and bolted out.

"We have to stop anything meant to defraud us from getting or hacking into our digital system and the first step now, is to first expose all the banks involved in the MMM fraud,.

"As a chartered fraud examiner, when the scam called MMM ponzi scheme came with its 30 per cent interest in 30 days early last year, I told people then that it was a fraud but many refused to listen and some of them later learnt their lessons in bitter ways," Ogolo lamented.

The senator also disclosed that the Senate is working on legislation that would make digital education compulsory in primary and secondary schools.

Stakeholders at the session agreed on the need for the urgent creation of centralised data base anchored on the National Identity Card to arrest hacking and cybercrime in the economic sector.

Ignorance is a big retarder of technological advancement in Nigeria — Aderemi Adejumo

Our Expert of the Month is Aderemi Adejumo, the Chief Technical Officer of Comercio, a computer hardware solutions provider based in Lagos.
A veteran database administrator, Aderemi has played in the IT field for 30 years whilst working in different countries. He led many innovations at Ecobank including implementing cloud computing for the first time in 2013 and implementing VoIP phones in Nigeria as well as video phones for all the senior staff.
Born and bred in Lagos, Nigeria, Aderemi moved to England at the age of 12 to continue his schooling. There he eventually got his first degree in civil engineering — having practised for a few months in between — before coming back to Nigeria in 1986 to do his youth corps in Oyo State.

[Image: Engine-Room-Aderemi-Adejuwon-21.jpg?resi...C512&ssl=1]

Even as a family man at 53, it isn’t hard to picture a once young and bubbly 18-year-old college chap who formed a rock band for a purely female audience — Aderemi still exudes that youthful exuberance. The impressive collection of books in his office is a testament to the fact that he is an avid reader. Other than his love for books, he also shared his love for fine wine, home brewed coffee, Manchester United football club, cooking and baking.
[Image: Engine-Room-Aderemi-Adejuwon-8.jpg?resiz...C512&ssl=1]

Onyinye Uche: How did a civil engineer switch to IT?
Aderemi Adejumo: After service, I started working for my father who was one of the founding members of the Association of Consulting Engineers. He ran an engineering company called Afro Planning. He noticed me often playing with the computers there and he called me one day and said “if you are really keen on these computers, go and start your own computer company”
I was 23 or 24 years old at the time and personal computers (PCs) only just came out. He gave me the first floor of his building on Simpson Street to set up the company and I had about two or three people working for me. So I installed computers for about six or seven banks and another six or seven major law firms. I must have grown the company to over 100 customers whom I sold PCs to, set up computer networks for and provided periodic maintenance.

OU: How did you manage running your business without prior knowledge in the field?
AA: I learnt on the job. I ran the computer company from 1987 to 1996 then I decided to get some formal training. So in 1996, I decided to leave Nigeria and go to the United Kingdom (UK).
[Image: Engine-Room-Aderemi-Adejuwon-12.jpg?resi...C512&ssl=1]
In the UK, the first job I got was working for Natwest Group as a network administrator for two years. After I left Natwest, I went to work for Wellcome Trust for about a year. I left Wellcome Trust to work for Compaq in 1999 for two years before spending five years working in Citi Bank.
While I was at Natwest, someone once told me, “Remi we can’t pay you more than £40 an hour because you are a networking guy”. I found out that only Database Administrators (DBAs) got paid more than £40/hour; so I decided to become an SQL server DBA.
I got all the necessary certifications and by the time I joined Citi Bank, I was the only SQL server DBA they had out of a team of 15. But I left in 2005 because I was fed up with living in England. UBS, one of the biggest banks in Switzerland wanted to put a global team together; I applied for the job and I got it so I decided to go to Zurich.
I didn’t enjoy working in Zurich either, so I left after a year and I joined Carrefour in Belgium, the second largest supermarket in the world, where I had to look after over 14,000 database servers with a colleague. Carrefour later outsourced that department to IBM. That is how I ended up working for two years in IBM Belgium as a contract staff. I also did my MBA in Belgium at Universite Catholique de Louvain (UCL). After two years I left IBM and came back to Nigeria to look after my aged father.

[Image: Engine-Room-Aderemi-Adejuwon-1.jpg?resiz...C683&ssl=1]
OU: Tell us about the journey to Comercio
AA: So I came to Nigeria in 2010 to work as Head of Applications for Resourcery. In 2012, I left Resourcery and I joined Ecobank after they bought Oceanic. I was appointed the Head of Infrastructure and my first task was to merge Oceanic Bank’s DBA with Ecobank’s DBA. I had to empty the data centre in Oceanic and move everything to Ecobank’s data centre. These were live systems.
I only did two years in infrastructure after which I was moved to the Admin Department. When I left in February 2016, I thought about using all my cost-saving ideas at the bank for a business idea. I discovered that Infrastructure as a Service would be an interesting venture.
But rather than set up an Infrastructure as a Service company, I decided to join Comercio, which is primarily in the business of selling servers.

[Image: Engine-Room-Aderemi-Adejuwon-6.jpg?resiz...C683&ssl=1]

OU: What was your idea behind Infrastructure as a service?
AA: When the exchange rate went from ₦150 to a dollar to nearly ₦400, it meant that there would be a decrease in the buying power of organisations. So I figured the only way they could maintain the same size of infrastructure was if they moved from a CAPEX (Capital Expenses) to an OPEX (operating expenses). That is, rather than buy a 100 million in one go, they can pay for the same amount of computing on a monthly basis, at a fraction of the cost.
By the way, there are also security issues. Nigeria is ranked third in the world in cyber crime. Well run and certified data centres have up to ten levels of security. So if anyone wants to be fraudulent, you have knocked that off by moving to a secure and obscure data centre. It also means freeing up time for your staff from doing mundane tasks so they have time to do other things.
By outsourcing this part of the business, companies can save 60% of their cost. So we are an economic solution.

OU: From your experience living and working abroad, how will you describe the growth of the tech sector in Nigeria
AA: The tech sector is growing and it’s exciting. The potential growth of technology in North America is 7%. In the Middle East and Africa (EMEA) it is 19%. So when enterprises want to make more money; they look at EMEA, we are the growth area, there is a lot of opportunity for growth and so much to be done especially in terms of cost saving.
Technology is an enabler; we need to deploy a lot of innovative technology to increase efficiency,  drive growth and save costs because economically, we have been battered and we need to grow but with less money. Today, information is very accessible. There couldn’t be a better time to be alive than now, in terms of the opportunities.
[Image: Engine-Room-Aderemi-Adejuwon-4.jpg?resiz...C569&ssl=1]

OU: Do you think we are exploiting these opportunities enough?
AA: No, we are not even scratching the surface. We haven’t gotten onto that vision, that the more people we empower, the more value will be derived. Because there is more need in an empowered and efficient environment, you actually make more money than less; people always imagine the reverse is the case.I will make more money by empowering more people than less because people will only embrace technology if  they have the knowledge. When Bible says “my people perish for lack of knowledge”, it is not said in vain. Ignorance is a big retarder of technological advancement.
As a nation, we have everything needed to have a single database, which will give us so much advantage, but we don’t. In Zurich, I saw kids as young as five years of age going to school on their own, because everybody was accounted for. Crime is at an all time low in Zurich because of the way they choose to live. That’s what you get when you have an efficient database.
There’s a lot we can do and I am excited about what I want to do;  in terms of mentoring. That’s why I want to write a lot more from my experience and vision so that people can understand where the scope exists. I think sometimes people don’t even understand where the barriers are and what barriers we need to push

[Image: Engine-Room-Aderemi-Adejuwon-15.jpg?resi...C683&ssl=1]

OU: Can you recommend books you think everyone should read?
AA: I would recommend any book by Patric Lencioni, “Outliers” by Malcomm Gladwell,  any of the Freakonomics series  (particularly SuperFreakonomics), “The inmates are running the asylum” by Alan Cooper, “Straight from the gut” by Jack Welch and Lee Kuan yew’s “How to build a nation”

OU: Finally, give us 3 key truths you will tell undergraduates coming into the tech sector?
AA: Work hard, grow your knowledge (this is the most important) and have soft skills. 90% of the people I see on social media can’t spell. They can’t even string an argument together. That stems from a lack of knowledge.
I see people who tell me they have worked for 15 years, but there is really no substance. They look as if they have only worked for 4 years because they are in a hurry to be ‘Oga’ (boss), and they are not there to learn.
All the wisdom of the world is hidden in books. All the things that we want to do, which are novel to us, have been done before and they are in books.

In 2013, Shadare wanted to upgrade his Blackberry Torch to the latest Z10. He had dreamt about this new toy for a while and imagined that the new phone would upgrade his status.  He emptied his savings and some change and strolled into Computer Village, the phone headquarters of Nigeria. As he entered the famous Otigba street, someone approached him and asked, “you wan buy phone? We get the latest: Samsung Galaxy S4, S6, HTC phones, Z10, iPhone 5s.”

“As soon as he mentioned my dream phone, the Z10, I told him, oya bros, let’s go to your shop,” Shadare recalls.
When they got to the ‘shop’, which was buzzing with people, his escort went to talk to some guys, behind the counter. They exchanged a few words and he returned with the phone. The escort wasted no time in starting his sales pitch.
“This is the phone, original, wey go last till you wan troway am. Na [i]₦80,000, see am”.[/i]

Shadare was mesmerised by the sight of the black phone, however, he felt that the price was outrageous so he haggled with the escort and they finally agreed on ₦75,000. The phone was tested in his presence and it was repackaged, payment was made and the phone was handed over to him.
However, he recalls that the escort gave him a parting warning: “Oga, no open your phone here o, they fit snatch am, so hol’am well.”
He heeded the advice, clutched the bag tightly till he got into his bedroom. Shadare had the shock of his life when he realised that the phone package contained a green bar of soap and a frayed charger with a few instructional leaflets.
“I cried when I got back to the store and the real owners told me that they couldn’t accept responsibility for the ‘phone’, they were not the ones that sold it to me. I checked the receipt I was given, indeed it was different from the name of the shop. Since then I have been very careful of buying things at Computer Village”

[Image: computer-village-relocation-31-of-42.jpg...C683&ssl=1]
Keep your eyes straight, walk briskly with your lips pursed, game-face on and clutch your bag tightly.

Shadare’s experience is just one of many that go on at Computer Village. When you are going there, you receive a lot of advice: Keep your eyes straight, walk briskly with pursed lips, game-face on and clutch your bag tightly. You should have a general ‘no-shaking’ stance as you approach the Village. While stories of unpleasant experiences in the market abound, it is still the one-stop shop for all things tech in Nigeria.

The advent and evolution of Computer Village

Before Otigba street and its environs became the marketplace for phones, laptop repairs, sundry items and general hustling, it was a wide expanse of farmlands in the 60s. A report by Temitayo Olofinlua shows how in the 70s, the local government constructed the roads in Ikeja which attracted artisans to the area. The establishment of the old secretariat building heralded the commercialization of the area. Offices spaces (which were mainly occupied by lawyers) sprang up quickly.  By 1979, Murtala Mohammed Airport was commissioned and along came the ‘warehousing trend.’
Quote:“Soon, clearing and forwarding agents chose the place as
a perfect location for their goods because of its proximity
to the Airport. Fashion designers followed suit soon after” – Temitayo Olofinlua

Temitayo Olofinlua, an award-winning essayist has researched and written extensively about the past, present and the possible future of Ikeja Computer Village

Mr. Muyiwa Matuluko (Snr), a veteran journalist, remembers the old Ikeja with fondness.
“From inception in 1967, Lagos was split into 5 regions, Ikorodu, Badagry, Ikeja, Lagos and Epe also known as IBILE- a Yoruba word for local. So Ikeja was just one of the regions, but it was not made the capital until 1976. But Ikeja has always been commercialised. The government of the day (Action Group) had a progressive plan for the area.”
Although Matuluko grew up in Shomolu, he started working in Ikeja in 1990.
“I started my sojourn in Ikeja at Rosabel Advertising, Obafemi Awolowo house. There were tailors, barbers and all sorts then, but there was no ‘Computer Village.'” Matuluko recollects.

[Image: Muyiwa-Matuluko-Senior-Interview-34-of-6...C683&ssl=1]
Muyiwa Matuluko (Snr): “The government in the 60’s (Action Group) had a progressive plan. Ikeja was made to be the commercial backbone for Lagos and it was well mapped”

However, things changed in the lead up to the introduction of Global System for Mobile (GSM) into the country in 2001. The artisan-ridden street quickly evolved into a market for phone repairs, software downloads, unlocking, memory cards and batteries. Matuluko speculates that the Village must have started between 1998 and 2000.
“Before 1998, there were several mobile and makeshift shops who found it convenient to ‘pack and go’ when local government officials come to harass them.”
Before long, it became the full-blown technology hub which generates an estimated yearly revenue of $2 billion. Shops were fragmented and it became the go-to area for mobile phones, computers, faulty gadgets and its inhabitants became wizards (of some sort).

[Image: computer-village-relocation-38-of-42.jpg...C683&ssl=1]
“The traders there are the closest to the pulse of the Nigerian technology product consumer, and that is why the Asian technology Majors do not joke with that market. Otigba is the gateway into the mind of the average Nigerian technology product consumer.” – Victor Asemota

There is no doubt that the Ikeja Computer Village has grown exponentially and this increase can be attributed to what could be termed the collaboration and apprenticeship culture. From the first three shops, others came to learn and after a period of time, they gained independence and went ahead to set up their own shops and train other people.
The destruction of relationships, memories and a certain tech cluster

On the 25th of April, 2017, the Lagos state government announced its intentions to relocate Computer Village to the ICT park, Katangowa in Agbado. The government claims that the relocation will “curb environmental degradation, housing stock deficit and traffic congestion in Ikeja.”  This is a part of collective efforts to transform Lagos into a mega city. This announcement has been received with mixed feelings.
For Ben who has been in Computer Village for 15 years, the government’s decision is devastating. “There is no place that can be compared to Computer Village. It is an institution, how do you expect the traders to survive?”
[Image: computer-village-relocation-1-of-42.jpg?w=976&ssl=1]
Ben, a shop owner says he met his wife in Computer Village

There are a lot of factors to be considered regarding the government’s decision. Chief among them is its relocation plan. It would be a tad unwise for an administration to uproot a community and shove them off to another location without a concrete plan. However, the Lagos commissioner for physical and urban development, Wasiu Anifowose clarifies that the relocation notice is not a sudden move.
Quote:“It is a done deal; we have held a stakeholders’ meeting with the traders and they agreed to the relocation plan. It is an 11-year project that different administrations attempted to undertake but the present governor is a go getter. The relocation will deliver a world class computer and allied activities park. The process leading to the commencement of the development is in the concluding phase.”
According to Ben, there is no future for Computer Village at Kantangowa. “Second-hand cloth sellers have already dominated that place, so where do we start from?”
Computer Village, with all its faults, has become a necessity. It has provided employment for so many youths, graduates and the uneducated alike. One of such is Lazarus, a phone engineer who is also a Political Science student at the University of Lagos. He shares a shop with Ben and works after school hours and weekends. Lazarus thinks that if Ikeja ceases to be a hub, there will be a rise in robbery, thuggery and all other unlawful acts.
“Most people have not become armed robbers because they can still hustle honestly here (computer village). If the government succeeds this time, then they should expect a terrible repercussion.”

[Image: computer-village-relocation-5-of-42.jpg?...C667&ssl=1]
Lazarus is a third-year political science student at the University of Lagos. He is currently apprenticing at Computer Village

The name, Computer Village is apt for this community. They know each other, they can tell the street boys from the shop owners and there is a camaraderie even in the midst of the chaos, sweat and grind. They work hand-in-hand and ensure that the street boys make their own cut even though they do not own shops.
Temitayo shares some insight into this phenomenon. “Although some of those boys are dishonest, it is a normal practice. When street boys bring in a customer (also called ‘aboki’) the shop owners discreetly tell them the original price, so they can add their own cut. That is how the street boys make money.”
For Ben, that is what makes it dear. “I did my apprenticeship and worked my way up from here. I made some of my truest friends here. Most importantly I met my wife here, so this place has given me a lot.” he says with a smile.

The cost of building a megacity

Bola Tinubu and Babatunde Fashola’s administrations have attempted to relocate the village in the past, but they were unsuccessful. What may be different this time? Quite a number of people suggest that Governor Akinwunmi Ambode seems stubborn; he will do whatever he sets his heart to.
Described as a go-getter, Akinwunmi Ambode seems determined to birth the decade-long dream of transforming Lagos State into a megacity. Yes, it is a laudable and progressive dream, but a number of measures have to be put into place to ensure that commercial hubs are not stifled and people are not adversely affected.

The race to make Lagos a model mega city is swift, but at what cost? Credit: Gbenga Irantiola

Nigeria is not an enabling environment for entrepreneurs, but many have struggled against all odds to keep their heads above the harmful waters of corruption and the high cost of everything. With the relocation of the ‘village’, many fear that sales and patronage may never be the same as more people will find it easier to shop online, than brave the journey to the new destination.  The resultant effect will definitely be an increase in unemployment. There will be a massive addition to the unemployed pool of 23 million people.

In the spirit of diversification, shouldn’t the government invest in the development of SME clusters such as the computer village rather than destroying it?

*THE GLORY OF HIS SACRIFICE .*

Saturday, September 16th .
Pastor Chris

_*Of which salvation the prophets have enquired and searched diligently, who prophesied of the grace that should come unto you: Searching what, or what manner of time the Spirit of Christ which was in them did signify, when it testified beforehand the sufferings of Christ, and the glory that should follow (1 Peter 1:10-11).*_

It was God-ordained that Christ should suffer and the result of His suffering be glory, victory, success and prosperity for us all. Therefore, you’re to celebrate what Jesus did for you; He didn’t die for nothing; His vicarious death gave mankind victory over sin and its effects.

By hanging on the cross, as God’s sacrifice for sin, He took your place and gave you the victory. Now, God wants you not only to proclaim that victory, but to live every day in the victory of His death, burial and glorious resurrection. This means, if you were lying on a sickbed, it’s time to get up for you’ve received life in Christ.

The same goes for poverty; it shouldn’t take a hold of you anymore for Jesus took your place of poverty and gave you prosperity: _*“For ye know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that, though he was rich, yet for your sakes he became poor, that ye through his poverty might be rich”*_ (2 Corinthians 8:9). You can live absolutely debt-free now because the Lord supplies all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.

Live with this consciousness. You’ve been chosen out of the world and separated unto the glory-life. The Bible says you’re _*“...a chosen race, a priesthood of kingly lineage, a holy nation, a people belonging specially to God, that you may make known the perfections of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvellous light”*_ (1 Peter 2:9 WNT).

You’re a special breed, born with the life and nature of God. He has designated your path to be that of victory and success only.

*PRAYER*

*I thank you Lord for bringing me out of darkness into your marvellous light, where I reign and rule as a king in life, enjoying the joy, health, peace, prosperity, progress, success and victory you’ve made available to me in Christ, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.*

APP to Fight Child Sexual Exploitation Debuts

The fight against child sexual exploitation has been taken to a new dimension with the launch of an App 'Stop CSE' on IOS Apple and Google Play Store to report abuses on victims.

The whistle blowing App was the brain child of a Nigerian Child Rights group, Jose Foundation in collaboration with its United Kingdom partners and can be downloaded on Android and IOS devices.

In a chat with the media in Lagos, President, Jose Foundation, Prince Martins Abhulimhen, said the App has become imperative in view of the high prevalence of child sexual molestations reported in several parts of the world and Nigeria in particular.

He said the use of the App has become necessarily to overcome the culture of silence and shame that is taken away attention from the heinous crime against innocent children, some of which are victims of their parents, relatives, religious leaders and others.

According to him, children and parents can download and use it as a weapon of defence and seeking justice for any sexual exploitation by simply reporting the matter through the App to the Foundation and 'the Police and other relevant authority will be informed'.

"The idea is that it will serve as a whistle blower guide to support in interventions, whilst preserving the confidentiality of the victims. It will also been a data gathering tool that will help us have a more accurate database on abuses, rate of occurrence, severity and to disaggregate data on the different forms of abuse. With that we can keep track of those with infections including HIV/AIDS.

"The App is to help children and parents understand Child Sexual Exploitation (CSE) and our workshop coming up will be to train social care givers on how to handle victims of CSE", Abhulimhen said.

He also urged the federal government to pave the way for the Foundation to extend the campaign to all corners of the country and take away abuse and exploited children to a proper social care handlers.

The App is to be translated into the three major languages in Nigeria-Hausa, Yoruba and Igbo for easy access and usage for millions of Nigerians. While demonstrating the App to newsmen, Stop CSE App after downloading from IOS Apple and Google Play Store, a user is lead to about seven icons including 'Action Against CSE' which provides a phone number, website, email address including other social communication platforms as WhatsApp, SMS, Facebook, BBM, Messenger and others.

The App, Abhulimhen said will be formally unveiled to the Nigerian users in a short time as the App is already running in the UK on IOS and Google. He urged parents, social workers, school principals and people in authority to guide children to learn how to use the App to fight sexual abuses in the country.
