Three persons are feared dead at Abbatoir area of Agege,  Lagos when a train derailed this morning.
Lagos State police spokesman, Olarinde Famous-Cole who confirmed the incident noted that the train rammed into a trailer, injuring many and leaving three of the victims feared dead.
“We just got the information. Our policemen and those attached to the railway command are in control of the situation,” Famous- Cole said.
“We shall be able to furnish you with details later please.”

• ‘Boko Haram killings decreased by 80%’
A global report released yesterday says Nigeria remains one of the three most terrorised nations in the world.

The 2017 Global Terrorism Index (GTI) also indicates that killing of innocent people by the Boko Haram insurgents in the North east has decreased by 80 per cent. According to the document, Nigeria got the same ranking in 2015 and 2016. It was ranked fourth in 2014.

The Global Terrorism Index, which is in its fifth edition, is published annually by an independent, non-partisan, non-profit think tank organisation, Institute for Economics and Peace (IEP). It monitors and measures the impact of terrorism in 163 countries, which covers 99.7 per cent of the world’s population.

The report says Iraq and Afghanistan have not had their ranking changed in the past three years and the two countries are ranked first and second in the 2017 GTI.
Among the first 10 countries that suffered the greatest impact of terrorism in 2016, according to the report, are Syria, fourth; Pakistan, fifth; Yemen, sixth; and Somalia, seventh. India, Turkey, and Libya are ranked eighth, ninth and 10th.
The report reads in part: “Where terrorism deaths attributed to Boko Haram decreased by 80 per cent, Nigeria recorded the biggest decrease in terrorism with 3,100 fewer people killed compared to 2015.

“This reflects both the success of the Multinational Joint Task Force against Boko Haram as well as fractures within the group.
“Boko Haram’s decline also contributed to significant reductions in deaths in neighbouring countries with Cameroon, Chad and Niger collectively recording a 75 per cent reduction in deaths or over 1,000 fewer deaths.”

Boko Haram, which was the deadliest terrorist group in 2014, according to the report, and recorded 6,700 deaths, is now the third deadliest, with its total number of attributable deaths dropping to 1,079 in 2016.

The report says only one attack was recorded in Nigeria among the 20 most fatal terrorist attacks globally in 2016, compared to 2014 when nine of such attacks took place in the country. The attack was reported to have occurred in January 2016 in Dalori when assailants armed with firearms and explosive devices raided the village, killing 88 people.

Globally, according to the GTI, deaths resulting from terrorism decreased by 13 per cent to 25,673 in 2016. The Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) was the deadliest terrorist group in 2016 killing 50 per cent compared to what it killed in 2015.

“The 2016 was the group’s deadliest year ever with ISIL accountable for 9,132 deaths; the majority of which occurred in Iraq. ISIL undertook attacks in 15 countries, which is four more than the previous year. ISIL affiliated groups killed a further 2,417 people and undertook attacks in another 11 countries, although this is six less than the previous year,” according to the report.

Boko Haram, the report says, does not have sophisticated financing structure, unlike ISIL, Al-Qa’ida and the Taliban.
“The group has historically relied on one time operations to fund its activities. Some of the most common fundraising techniques include abductions for ransoms, kidnapping, extortion of various businesses and bank robberies.

“Boko Haram has also been known to raise funds by utilising a network of alliances with other terror organisations, including receiving funding from Al-Qa’ida in the Land of Islamic Maghreb,” the report stated, adding that the group sometimes receive financial support from corrupt politicians and government officials.

On what would have been his 87th birthday, late Nigerian author Chinua Achebe has been honoured with a Google doodle.
Doodles are changes made to the Google logo to celebrate holidays, anniversaries, and the lives of famous artists, pioneers, and scientists.

Considered as one of the greatest African writers of his generation, Achebe’s best-known novel Things Fall Apart is one of the most read books in the world and has been translated into more than 50 languages, with over 10 million copies sold, according to The Economist.
The book told of Achebe’s Igbo earliest encounter with British colonizers in the 1800s — the first time the story of European colonialism had been told from an African viewpoint to an international audience.
He later turned his sights on the devastation wrought to Nigeria and Africa by military coups and entrenched dictatorship.

Anthills of the Savannah, published in 1987, is set after a coup in a fictional African country, where power has corrupted and state brutality silenced all but the most courageous.
His other novels include No Longer at Ease, Arrow of God and A Man of the People. He also published collections of short stories, children books poems and influential essays.
Chinua Achebe
Achebe won The Man Booker International Prize in 2007 and the Commonwealth poetry prize for his collection Christmas in Biafra.
A 1990 car accident confined him to a wheelchair. This forced his move to the United States, where he said he could get best medical attention.
“I need to know that if I went to a pharmacist, the medicine there would be the drug that the bottle says it is,” he said in 2007.
Before his death on March 21, 2013, at the age of 82, Achebe rejected Nigerian national honours twice — first in 2004, and later in 2011.
“For some time now I have watched events in Nigeria with alarm and dismay,” Achebe wrote in 2004.

• ITU urges African govts to prioritise technology
Fourteen countries have been ranked ahead of Nigeria in Information and Communications Technology (ICT) development in Africa.

The International Telecommunications Union (ITU) stated this yesterday in a report on the 2017 ICT Development Index (IDI), which measured the information society.

According to the report, Mauritius, Seycheles, South Africa, Cape Verde, Bostwana, Gabon, Ghana, Namibia, Cote d’Ivoire, Sao Tome and Principle, Lesotho, Zimbabwe, Kenya and Senegal are ahead of Nigeria in the ranking.


The IDI survey, which examined about 38 countries in Africa, is a yearly report that studies the adoption of new technology trends and growth of ICT among countries.

The report showed that while some countries recorded growths in the last one year, Nigeria remained stagnant at 15th position, while Seychelles, which ranked fourth in 2016, moved two positions upward to become second a year later.
Also, Cote d’Ivoire, which ranked 12th position a year ago, moved to the ninth in 2017.
Mauritius maintained the number one position back-to-back in Africa and ranked 72nd in 2017 globally, from its 75th position a year ago. Nigeria maintained same spot globally and regionally in 2016 and 2017, ranking 143rd out of 176 countries surveyed by the ITU.
The telecoms union stated that Africa has by far the lowest average IDI performance in any region, adding that only one country, Mauritius falls into the top half of the IDI distribution or exceeded the global average value for IDI 2017.
It added that only four more countries: Seychelles, South Africa, Cape Verde and Botswana, exceeded the average value of 4.26 for developing countries.

ITU Secretary-General, Houlin Zhao, who called for Africa’s governments’ attention on ICT, noted that a revolution would unfold in the coming decades with unpredictable opportunities, challenges and implications.
Also, a telecoms expert, Kehinde Aluko, cautioned that until the fundamental challenges hindering innovations and creativity are removed, the country would continue to experience a lull in technology development.

The Comptroller-General of Immigration, Muhammad Babandede, has revoked the residence permits of the expatriate workers in six companies, including Intels Nigeria Ltd., said to belong to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.
The affected workers were also directed to leave the country before November 30, 2017 failing which they may be deported.
The Immigration Service Public Relations Officer, Sunday James, said in a statement on Wednesday in Abuja that the revocation was in the exercise of the powers vested on the CG in Section 39 sub-section 1 of Immigration Act 2015 and Section 5, sub-section 5 of the Immigration Regulation, 2017.
Beside Intels, other firms affected by the directive included PRODECO International Ltd., West Africa Machinery Services Ltd., Net Global System International Ltd., MGM Logistics Solutions Ltd., and ORIEAN Investment Ltd.
The FG had earlier terminated Intels contract with the Nigerian Ports Authority over allegations that the firm did not comply with the government’s directive on the Treasury Single Account.
James in the statement said the revocation of the expatriates’ residence permits followed the withdrawal of the operational licenses of their employers by the Oil and Gas Free Zones Authority.
It said, “The Comptroller/General of Immigration Service, Muhammad Babandede, hereby revokes the residence permits of the expatriate staff of the underlisted companies.
“Consequently, the CGI has directed that the expatriate staff of the affected companies leave Nigeria not later than November 30, 2017, failure of which they might be recommended to the Minister of Interior for deportation.”

Parents of Chibok schoolgirls still held in Boko Haram den have have written President Muhammadu Buhari over his “silence” concerning the fate of their missing daughters.
In a letter addressed to the President, the parents lamented that 20 of them had died while waiting for the return of their girls.
According to the letter dated November 12 and sent to the President, the parents jointly demanded the whereabouts and latest information about their daughters.
Parts of the letter read, “When the 21 girls were rescued, we begged to be part of the reunion so we could hear about our missing daughters, but, we were denied that opportunity.
“Again, when the 82 came home, we were so happy knowing very well that we could meet them and hear about our daughters, even if they are dead, so we could bring this to closure.
“Again, we were denied the chance to meet them, till today.
“We have been travelling to ask our local leaders to hear from them but no one seems interested in briefing us about any effort or action by the federal government, to secure the release of our daughters. We feel neglected.
“When government promised to secure the release of the girls, repeatedly, we thought it won’t be long after the 82 girls were rescued, having seen how possible that was.
“Right now, we are hopeless and more traumatised than before because, it seems the successes recorded are now considered as closure since no one is paying any attention to our grief.
“We want government to deal directly with parents of the missing girls, let us know what next.
“Do not stop us from meeting the rescued girls, we could hear words of comfort from our daughters, through them, and to know whether they are alive or not; for us to know the next step.
“We have lost 20 of the parents, we don’t want to lose any one of us in this situation again.
“Please, respond to our call.”

Former Nigeria’s ambassador to Spain and widow of Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu-Ojukwu, Bianca, has opened up on how the former governor of Anambra State, Peter Obi, failed to sustain the legacies of the late Igbo leader in the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).
Bianca said Obi rode on the wings of the late Ikemba Nnewi to the government house on the platform of APGA but he had abandoned it.
She took her anger to a new level by laying curse on her late husband’s protégée, thus asking ‘history to judge him harshly’.
He told Sun that, “APGA’s political credo revolves essentially around those principles championed by Ojukwu in the Ahiara Declaration which constitutes the benchmarks of a well-ordered society.
“Ikemba envisaged an administrative model with a dynamic policy for industrialisation which concentrates on the employment of primary products in various domestic manufactures, a government which creates possibilities for citizens with talent in business and civil administration, agriculture, technology, trade and commerce, to mention but a few, to fulfil themselves and receive their due reward and appreciation in service to the state.
“It is simple. I maintain that Peter Obi betrayed Dim Ojukwu, and tried to destroy APGA for his own selfish interests. He has continued to undermine Ojukwu’s personality and recently, he has gone ahead to desecrate his legacy. From relative obscurity, Obi was brought into national prominence when the leader, Ojukwu, through his party APGA, offered him an opportunity and platform upon which he ran and became governor of Anambra State.
“Ojukwu sacrificed so much and laboured for him to become governor. He (Ojukwu) was fiercely protective of him and helped him overcome the various challenges that confronted him. Peter Obi had a difficult first tenure and stepped on so many toes that the majority of our party faithful were adamant that he should not be nominated for a second tenure. Yet Ojukwu stood by him when it mattered most, jeopardised his health by traversing all the local governments in a rigorous campaign on his behalf and begged the people of Anambra State to grant him a last wish by returning Obi for a second term.
“This feat was achieved for the first time in Anambra State’s history on 6th February 2010. Peter Obi swore to Ojukwu, upon his honour, that he would never abandon APGA; that he would quit politics or die; rather than leave APGA, and that he would preserve this legacy as a potent voice and rallying point for Ndigbo.
“History will judge him (Obi) harshly because the truth of the matter is that it is his pathological fear of political redundancy and oblivion that is now driving him dangerously close to the precipice from where he will soon commit political suicide. The people of Anambra State cannot be hoodwinked as they are determined not to indulge him with a third tenure by installing his candidate as governor.”

Supreme Egbesu Tigers of Africa, a militant group in the Niger Delta region, Wednesday, threatened to attack oil and gas facilities belonging to Shell Petroleum Development Company, SPDC, in Ekeremor Local Government Area of Bayelsa State.
The group claimed the company has neglected the local content law in the state.
The group, in a statement by its spokesperson, Mr. Ogoun Tensighan, also issued a two-week ultimatum to the company to involve the Amabuluo Federated Communities in its operational activities in the area, failure of which it would carry out its threat.
Tensighan said: “The silence of the group should not be taken for granted as we are determined to make the region uninhabitable for the oil company to operate.
“We have watched with patience the impudence of some individuals from Egbemagalabri community to undermine the people of Amabulou Federated Communities.
“Job slots and benefits for the people of Amabulou are being diverted by these individuals while the original owners of the land where the oil is being explored are suffering.
“It is based on this that we are issuing this two weeks ultimatum. This is not a threat, we have already alerted SPDC and the security operatives in the Niger Delta region of our intentions and no measure of security measure would undermine our attack if SPDC fails to see reason.”

The All Progressives Congress (APC), Abia State chapter, has affirmed that northern Nigeria should be allowed to remain in power till 2023.
According to the party, even if Buhari refuses to run for second term, the region must be allowed to complete its eight years tenure.
Comrade Benedict Godson, APC publicity secretary in the state, while addressing newsmen in Umuahia on Wednesday, said the region was strongly behind the Buhari-led government.
He said, “APC in the state is in support of President Buhari administration and appreciates his love for the South East and what he is doing and nobody from Abia including Kalu wants to contest for the presidency in 2019. Even if Buhari would not want to re-contest, it is our belief that the North should be allowed to complete her tenure.
“They’ve seen the growth of the party in the state in the past one year and they believe they can slow down the movement by bringing down our leaders, but they have failed as nothing will stop APC from taking over power in the state come 2019.”
Speaking further, Godson said those posting Kalu’s posters in different parts of the country were hell bent on causing disaffection between President Muhammadu Buhari and Kalu.
According to Godson, “Kalu has said it in unequivocal term that he has ambition in 2019, but definitely not the presidency and that is why the APC in the state is seeing the pasting of the former governor’s posters in different parts of the state as the handiwork of some PDP members in Abia.
He continued, “Those pasting Kalu’s posters in parts of the state to cause disaffection between President Buhari and the former governor should know there game plan was dead on arrival. It may have worked for them when PDP was in power at the federal level by which time the Pull-Kalu-Down syndrome at all costs through bare-faced lies and gossips to the presidency held sway.”

Human rights lawyer Femi Falana SAN has accused the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) of failing to remit over $20.2bn since the return of democracy in 1999 to date, saying that, "Instead of piling up external loans the federal government should be compelled by the Nigerian people to embark on the immediate recovery and repatriation of hundreds of billions of dollars from the NNPC."
Falana was speaking today in Lagos at a National Seminar on Promoting Transparency and Accountability in the Recovery of Stolen Asset in Nigeria: Agenda for Reform organized by Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) in collaboration with the Ford Foundation, USA.
According to Falana, "Transparency and accountability are interconnected to the application of economic, political and administrative management of the affairs of a state. The exercise of these affairs is that they must be seen to be exercised by the citizens of a state. Where a government parastatal such as the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) is said to have failed to remit oil revenue to the tune of $20billion, issues of good transparency and governance becomes a crucial issue.
Falana said in his paper that, "The Federal Government has to re-focus its recovery of stolen assets by vigorously pursuing recovery of assets from multinational corporations and not just the countries that illegally keeping the looted wealth of the country. The recovery of our looted wealth should also be extended to the few Nigerians who have been indicted in the Panama and Paradise papers. The EFCC and the Federal Inland Revenue Service should recover appropriate taxes from the offshore companies set up by such individuals."
Falana called on the government of President Muhammadu Buhari to "comply with the order of the federal high court which has directed the federal government to account for the loot recovered since 1999."
Falana's paper read in part "It is undoubtedly clear that the governments of western countries and the United Arab Emirates are not going to co-operate with Nigeria in the repatriation of the nation's looted unless the Federal government is prepared to adopt appropriate diplomatic and legal measures. In addition, the labour unions and other civil society organizations in the affected countries have to be mobilized to mount pressure on their governments to return our looted wealth."
"Upon the inauguration of the Mohammadu Buhari administration the governments of the United States, United Kingdom and Switzerland assured the federal government that stolen funds and assets stolen from Nigeria would be repatriated. Not only have these countries refused to cooperate with Nigeria they have also frustrated the efforts of the federal government to recover and repatriate such tainted funds and assets."
"In a display of sheer arrogance and hypocrisy in June last year the then British Prime Minister, Mr. David Cameron described Nigeria as "a fantastically corrupt country". Rochas Okorocha, governor of Imo state, has pleaded with President Muhammadu Buhari to use his “magic hand” to make Tony Nwoye governor of Anambra state.
Okorocha made this appeal on Wednesday while speaking at the final rally of the All Progressives Congress in Awka on Wednesday.
“Kogi is a young man, you made it possible for him. Kebbi is a young man, Niger is a young man, Edo is a young man, Katsina is our elder brother,” he said.
“The way you brought these people, use that same hand of blessing, the magic hand of Buhari to give us Tony Nwoye. I sat down to search out who you are and to define you but I can’t. The way you turned around the economy of Nigeria, brought us out of recession, use the same magic to give us Nwoye.
“It’s the same manner you went to the hospital and everybody thought you were gone, you came back strong even stronger than before, looking more handsome; give us Tony Nwoye. My president my president, we look up to that day on Saturday when we can come back and raise the hand of this young man.
“Then you’ll see the south-east, the Orji Uzo Kalu, the Nwobodos, the Ken Nnamanis and your ministers, you have people. The only one you should try and check for us, to try and see if you can add something to his height is Ngige because with this height we have a challenge.”
In his address, President Muhammadu Buhari said he hopes the APC will bounce back and get Nwoye elected.
“I’m very impressed with the organisation and the number of people who turned out. We are hoping that the APC bounce back and get our governor elected next Saturday,” he said.
“I assure you if you study very closely the budget of next year, we have earmarked and we are expecting the national assembly to approve what we intend to do about infrastructure in the south-east.”
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is expected to conduct a governorship election in the state on Saturday, November 18.

Following the alleged clash between the convoys of the Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike and Minister of Transport, Rotimi Amaechi, the state chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has called for the arrest of the Minister.
Felix Obuah, State Chairman of the party said the Federal Government should address the Minister’s alleged “unwarranted attack” on Wike to avoid future occurrence.
Speaking in Port Harcourt, the state capital, Obuah said Amaechi should be arrested for contravening traffic laws and for unauthorized use of siren.
He also faulted the State Police Command’s position that there was no assassination attempt on the life of Wike.
Obuah also alleged that the Inspector General of Police, IGP Ibrahim Idris, and the Rivers State Commissioner of Police, were plotting to sack the Police outrider, who was in the convoy of the governor.
According to Obuah, “This is a very serious issue, that a man so highly placed in this country even though he is undeserving of the position, could descend so low as to knock down a governor’s outrider on the middle of the road. Yet, the police call it mere infraction between two prominent personalities in the State.
“This is shocking to note and if we may ask, where was Amaechi heading to, on that fateful day and that particular time? This is the question the security agencies need to clarify.
“It’s against this lockdrop that we are unequivocally calling that Amaechi be arrested for the unauthorized use of siren and for contravening all traffic rules that led to the ugly incident”, he said.
Speaking further, Obuah noted with dismay: “Worse still, we hear that rather than reprimand Amaechi, Gov Wike’s outrider, who was not only deliberately knocked down by Amaechi personally on the wheels, but narrowly escaped being killed, is being tried and threatened with sack.
“This is unjust and ungodly and we pray that the police do not go ahead with such treachery to save the little that remains of the Nigeria Police image under IGP, Ibrahim Idris.
“Nigerians are watching particularly, in light of all manner of atrocities and wanton waste of innocent lives by certain members of the Police force, particularly the Federal SARS under the IGP in Rivers State. Yet, the police high command turns a blind eye while the perpetrators walk about uncautioned and continuing with their maiming spree.
“The Police Outrider was subsequently detained with hardened criminals. His family members allege that he has been physically tortured, while he has been held incommunicado.”

Reports reaching DAILY POST from Muna garage area in Borno State show that suicide bombers have attacked a mosque during magrib (sunset) prayer.
Police in Maiduguri, the Borno state capital has confirmed that eighteen people, including four suicide bombers died in the ensuing explosion that rocked the state this evening.

A statement from DSP Isuku Victor, PPRO Borno State Police Command on Wednesday evening said, “Today 15/11/2017, at about 1813hrs, four suicide bombers, two males and two females, infiltrated Muna Gari community in konduga LGA, and detonated IED strapped to their bodies at different locations.
“The first explosion occurred at a prayer ground, while the other explosions occurred thereafter, all within the community.
“A total of eighteen persons including the four suicide bombers, died in the multiple explosions.
“While twenty nine others sustained various degrees of injuries and were rushed to university of Maiduguri teaching hospital/State Specialist Hospital for medical attention.”
According to the statement, Police patrol /EOD teams promptly mobilized to the scene to sanitize and render the area safe.
The statement also said that normalcy had been restored to the community.

Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof (Proverbs 18:21).

Proverbs 15:4 says, “A wholesome tongue is a tree of life: but perverseness therein is a breach in the spirit.” The things you say are so important; you can make or mar your life with the words you speak. The current situation that you find yourself in, whether good or bad, is the result of the words you’ve spoken in the past. Jesus said you shall have whatsoever you say (Mark 11:23). So, endeavour to always say the right things, particularly, things that are consistent with the divine life that you received in Christ Jesus.

Look at our opening verse again; it says, “Death and life are in the power of the tongue….” You can bring death into your life, family, business and finances, if all you think and talk about all the time is death. Likewise, you can speak life into your body and circumstances, and be full of health and life.

A dear lady shared her testimony in one of our meetings. She had been in a terrible state, and wanted to die because of her condition. She’d been involved in a ghastly accident and was in a coma, but she could hear everything going on around her. She heard the doctor talking about her prognosis, which was very bad, and she wanted to die because she thought she would never be normal again. While she was contemplating death, God said to her, “You cannot die now,” and she thought, “What?”

Then in her spirit, she heard the Lord say, “If you really want to die, it’ll take you some time. You’d have to reverse the order, because you’ve spoken so much life prior to this time; therefore, to die, you’d have to start talking death to undo the life you’ve been speaking.” Hallelujah! The power of our words!

It’s so important for you to speak life always. The Bible says, _*“For by thy words thou shalt be justified, and by thy words thou shalt be condemned”*_ (Matthew 12:37).

Unemployed and You Need Help? Agriculture wants to Employ You

Agribusiness is a very lucrative business. Take it or leave it! I’m into it and it works out good for me. The reasons why most people run away from agriculture are laziness; inability to take a risk(s); and fear of failing. Of a truth, anyone found giving those reasons cannot venture into any business at all. Business requires you to be hardworking, bold, and be able to to take risks
Let me tell you this: there is no aspect of agriculture that is not profitable. Whether fishery (aquaculture), poultry, pig, rabbit, sheep, goat, cattle, cane rat production, agro-allied business etc. The mistake most people make is that they rush into a business without having a sound knowledge of what they are going into. Some will say, “My friend started it and he/she was successful, so I will do it too.” Did you contact your friend to get more information about the business? You must know the fundamentals or basics of a particular business before you start. Even if you cannot carry out a feasibility study, try and use your initiative to know if your location a favorable environment for a particular agribusiness. For instance, can you start catfish production where natural water is not sufficiently available? Can you set up a pig farm where people don’t consume pork (meat of pig), or it is a taboo to them? These are some of the things people need to consider when going into any agriculture-related business. I know someone will refer to finance as a hindrance. Seriously, money/finance shouldn’t be seen or taken as a serious problem or barrier. A friend of mine always says, “You become a failure the moment you take money as a problem to start a business.” As an intending poultry farmer, you can start with buying and selling 5-10 crate of eggs or start with raising few chickens like 5 broilers chicks or cockerels. Save your profit and plan to expand as your profit increases. 
There are some successful farmers who started this way and are now employers of labour. I have tried something like this and it really worked for me.
Once again, agribusiness is profitable, but getting valuable information and researching are important. Visit websites, forums, and blogs in the agriculture niche for more information on how to be successful or make money through farming.
Remember, your country has little or nothing to offer the unemployed. Now is the time to help yourself. As an unemployed, student, teacher, lecturer, civil servant, try and save for your future. Start farming and be fulfilled.

FORMER President Goodluck Jonathan has hit back at the former Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Farida Waziri, for claiming that she was sacked because she refused to back down on a suspect during the oil subsidy scandal.
Waziri had in an interview with journalist recently in Lagos reacted to revelation of alleged grand corruption that took place under the Jonathan’s administration.
“I’m only glad that those things didn’t happen under my watch as the EFCC Chairman because it would have been too traumatic for me.
“And that is why if I see President Jonathan today, I will kneel down to thank him for the honour done me by removing me as the EFCC Chairman at the time he did” she said.
“My first strong premonition of what was ahead was when I began the probe of the monumental oil subsidy fraud going on then”.
“I came to Lagos on a vital intelligence on the subsidy scam and as soon as I arrested a key culprit, I got a call from the Presidential Villa asking me to release the suspect, because, in their words, ‘he is our person’, but I refused to let him off and days after, I was removed from office”.
Responding, Jonathan said Waziri told lies by making such claims.
He reacted through his verified twitter handle @GEJonathan.
The former president who said crime has no statute bar challenged Waziri to name the person or the company she was investigating when she was stopped.
Jonathan said if the former EFCC boss failed to do so, she was simply hired to attack his personality.

Members of the Senate have lambasted the Inspector General of Police, Mr. Ibrahim Idris, for withdrawing security details attached to Governor of Anambra State, Mr. Willie Obiano.
The lawmakers took turns to condemn the police boss for claiming that the security men were withdrawn to allow a level playing field for all contestants in the forthcoming governorship election in Anambra State.
The Senate, therefore, asked Chairman of the Senate Committee on Police Affairs to ensure that Obiano’s security aides were reinstated by Thursday.

President Muhammadu Buhari has called for calm, peace and respect for the constitution in Zimbabwe.
The President urged all political and military stakeholders in Zimbabwe to avoid any action that may plunge the country into unnecessary conflict and impact negatively on the region.
According to President Buhari, “every attempt must be made to resolve all contentious issues by constitutional means in Zimbabwe to save the country from avoidable political instability.”
The appeal by the Nigerian leader came in the wake of reported “military takeover” as a result of rising political tension in the southern African country sequel to President Robert Mugabe’s recent removal of former Vice-President, Emmerson Mnangagwa.
This led to the threat by the head of the Armed Forces of Zimbabwe, General Constantino Chiwenga, that “the military will not hesitate to step in” when the issue had to do with protecting the “revolution.”

Following the interim take over of Zimbabwe government by military arm, the country’s ruling party Zimbabwe African National Union – Patriotic Front (ZANU -PF) on Wednesday, November 15, 2017 has announced that there was no coup in the country, only that President Robert Mugabe and his wife, have been detained and that the president has been replaced with Emmerson Mnagngawa, the vice president who was sacked a week ago and exiled by Mugabe.
They wrote on Twitter an hour ago, “Zimbabwe has not had a coup. There has been a decision to intervene because our constitution had been undermined, in the interim Comrade E Mnagngawa will be president of ZANU PF as per the constitution of our revolutionary organisation.
In a series of tweets, the ruling party went on to indicate that the action of the military has the backing of politicians in the country.

Moses delighted with CAF nomination

Nigeria and Chelsea wide player Victor Moses says it would be a ‘dream come true’ to win the 2017 CAF African Footballer of the Year Award.

Moses played an important part as Chelsea won the league last season and also helped the Super Eagles qualify for the 2018 World Cup.

It was certainly a big year for a player that was sent on a series of loan moves by Chelsea before finally settling in to a regular first team spot with the London club.

"It would be great to win an award and be the best in Africa. It would mean a lot to me. It is something I would keep for the rest of my life, and it would be like a dream come true. We will see the outcome!" Moses was quoted saying by the AfricanFootball website.

"I am very proud and delighted," the 26-year-old continued.

Gotze: Germany return step in right direction

Gotze was an unused substitute for the clash with England, but was back in action for Germany against France, coming on in the 65th minute before assisting Lars Stindl for the late equaliser.

Fire Destroys Multi-Million Aaira Goods In Ondo Market

Tragedy struck at a market in Road Block area of Akure, the Ondo State capital on Tuesday, following a fire outbreak that destroyed scores of shops which contained multi-million naira goods.

It was gathered that the incident happened in the morning when there was nobody around the area.

According to a source, some of the items destroyed by the fire included food items, barbing equipment, tailoring materials, among others.



The source said, “The fire incident started around 2am in the market and spread to the locked up shops in the market.

“We believe it was caused by power surge somewhere in the market, because there was no one around when it started.”

The source added that the fire would not have wrecked much havoc if the men of the Ondo State Fire Service had come on time after a distress call was put across to them.


Another source narrated that some of the affected traders had just stocked their shops in preparation for the Christmas period.

To this end, the affected traders have appealed to the state government and the National Emergency Management Agency to come to their aid.

Scared that she could be branded a witch and that more could die if she indulges, Mokorima travelled across the country looking for assistance from sangomas and prophets.

“The spell went with bad luck because all my plans to make money have been futile that’s why I came here for cleansing, I hope this time it will work,” she said.

Her fear is that at a relatively sexually active age of 40, she could never have sex with anyone for the rest of her life.

Prophet Emmanuel Gwandida declined to comment although the woman’s confession was recorded in church.

Buhari Congratulates Super Eagles On Victory Against Argentina

The President of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari who is currently touring the south-east took to Twitter to congratulate the Super Eagles on their 4-2 victory against Argentina.

The Peace Corps of Nigeria on Tuesday urged the Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, to respect the ruling of a Federal High Court in Abuja which held that its headquarters be unsealed.
The PCN also asked the police to comply with the court ruling, stopping the force from harassing peace corps members.
The Lagos and South-West zonal Commandant of the peace corps, Mr. Mutairu Habib, in a statement on Tuesday, said the police had refused to obey the court order.
He said, “As you are all aware, after the passing of the Peace Corps Bill by the National Assembly, there was an unwarranted invasion and sealing of our headquarters and arbitrary arrest of our National Commandant, Mr. Dickson Akoh, and about 49 others on February 17, 2017 by officers of the Nigeria Police Force in Abuja.
“To end this retrogressive trend, a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja, presided over by Justice Gabriel Kolawole, ordered last Thursday that the building be unsealed within seven days. The court also ruled that the sum of N12.5m be paid to us in damages.
“We, hereby, call on the Inspector-General of Police and the Nigeria Police Force to respect the court order and desist from unnecessary harassment and intimidation of our members, unseal our headquarters, and pay the damages as instructed by the court.”
Habib stated that the PCN was not in rivalry with other security agencies, urging President Muhammadu Buhari to assent.

Army Arrest Women For Buying Baby For N300,000

Two women were on Tuesday arrested by the Special Military Task Force, code-named Operation Safe Haven, for allegedly trafficking a four-day-old baby girl.
The suspects – Doris Egbufurum, 39; and Esther James, 40 – were said to have been arrested with the baby at Babale Gwam checkpoint, a boundary between Plateau and Bauchi states.
The Commander of Sector 1, Colonel Musa Etsu-Ndagi, who paraded the suspects, explained that they were arrested around 7.15pm on Monday by operatives of OPSH at the checkpoint after the duo boarded a commercial vehicle in Bauchi.
He said,
A passenger in the vehicle raised the alarm that she suspected that the baby with the two women was stolen because neither of them appeared to be her mother. The troops arrested them and investigation revealed that they bought the baby girl from one Mr. Abuna in Bauchi State for N300,000.”
He said the baby was in the military’s custody, adding that she was under the care of medical officers.
Etsu-Ndagi said the OPSH was making efforts to hand over the baby to the National Agency for Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons, an agency of the Federal Ministry of Justice.
One of the suspects, Egbufurum, who lived in Imo State and worked as a nurse with the Peoples Clinic in Bauchi, said she was taking the baby to Lagos after she bought her from a customer in Bauchi.
I was taking the baby to a woman who has been married for a long time without a child. She sent N320,000 to me for the job. I bought the baby for N300,000 and wanted to use the N20,000 balance for transport from Bauchi to Lagos,” She said.
When contacted, the spokesperson for OPSH, Captain Umar Adams, said  the suspects would be handed over to NAPTIP.
He said,
Our troops intercepted a vehicle conveying some passengers. The passengers in the vehicle raised the alarm and our troops discovered two women travelling with a baby suspected to have been stolen. They were arrested and taken to our headquarters.
“They were coming from Bauchi. So, in the course of investigation, they confessed that they bought the baby. They will be handed over to NAPTIP for prosecution. Efforts are being made to trace the place where they bought the baby.”

At Least Four Killed, Scores Injured In California School Shooting

At least four people were killed and nearly a dozen people were wounded, including three young children, when a shooting broke out Tuesday at a school in rural northern California.

The shooting broke out at a home in Tehama County and continued at the Rancho Tehama Elementary School, local authorities were quoted as saying.

Assistant Sheriff Phil Johnston told San Francisco news network KCRA that the assailant was killed by police.

Local news reports said the incident began as a domestic dispute that escalated.

Jim Schultz, a reporter for the Redding Record Searchlight newspaper, quoted Rancho Tehama resident Salvador Tello, who was taking his three children to school and described seeing the gunman open fire, killing a woman.

"He said he saw bullets strike the truck in front of him and he put his children down to protect them and put his truck to... reverse," Schultz said on Twitter.

"As he left, he saw (a) woman lying dead in the street and her... wounded husband next to her. Was told help was on its way."

Schultz quoted another witness, Casey Burnett, who said the gunman was "driving around and shooting randomly from his car."

Area resident Brian Flint told local media that his roommate had been shot and killed by the gunman, a former convict in his 50s.

"He's dead. He didn't make it," Flint told KCRA, referring to his roommate. "For his family and everything, I feel bad, and we'll be there for them."

He said the gunman was a neighbor and had "been shooting a lot of bullets lately, hundreds of rounds, large magazines."

"We made it aware that this guy is crazy and he's been threatening us," he said.

The shooting coincides with a new flareup of the long-running debate on America's epidemic of gun violence and the ready accessibility of high-powered weapons, less than 10 days after a gunman shot dead 26 people at a church in Texas.

Abuja – The National Biosafety Management Agency (NBMA) says it has, in conjunction with the Nigerian Customs Service, ordered that the genetically modified (GM) maize consignment illegally imported into Nigeria be sent back.

Dr Rufus Egbegba, the Director-General of NBMA, said this in a news conference on Tuesday in Abuja.

“In view of the information and facts on ground, the agency, in fulfillment of its mandate and in collaboration with the Nigerian Customs Service, ordered the repatriation of the maize consignment with immediate effect,’’ he said.

He recalled that in October, the agency was informed of the importation of a large maize consignment.
Egbegba said: “The NBMA had to step in to avert the release of the maize consignment into the country due to the failure of the importing company to obtain a GM seed import permit from the NBMA,’’ he said. “Representatives of the company were invited to provide more information on the GM status of their import, after which the NBMA proceeded to obtain samples and conduct laboratory tests to ascertain the GM status of the imported maize.

 “The results of the analysis and the tests by an independent laboratory of six samples showed categorically that the maize imports were actually genetically modified maize.’’ The director-general stressed that the NBMA was proactive and would not tolerate any illegalities or shortcuts in its efforts to protect the lives of Nigerians and the integrity of their environment.

“The essence of ensuring that permit is granted before the release of any genetically modified seed, grains, or organisms is to ensure that risks assessment is carried out to ascertain their safety to the environment and human health,’’ he said. Egbegba, therefore, advised all stakeholders to abide by the extant biosafety laws to avoid any form of sanction.

“The advice is in line with the NBMA Act, Part VII. “It states that no person, institution or body shall import, export, transit or commercialise any genetically modified organism or product intended for direct use as food or feed, or for processing unless with the approval of the Agency.

“The NBMA is by this Act empowered to sanction any erring party for importing or releasing unauthorised genetically modified products, be it grains or any kind of seed, as the case may be.

“The Act made it clear that any person, institution or body that wishes to import, export, transit or otherwise carry out such activities, or undertake confined field trial, multi-locational trial or commercial release of a GMO, shall apply to the Director-General of NBMA prior to such activity.’’

Ebegba assured the citizens that their safety was the priority of NBMA and urged them to see the agency as a dependable body that could protect their interests.

The Nigeria Customs Service recently impounded 90 tonnes of GM maize, valued at about 10 million dollars, which was illegally imported into the country through the Apapa seaport in Lagos.

Corruption In Israel Is Not Just An Israeli Issue

Whether the string of scandals now hounding Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu leads to his sacking or not matters little.

Though nearly half of Israelis polled last July — well before the scandals took a much dirtier turn — believe that Netanyahu is corrupt, a majority of Israelis said that they would still vote for him.

A recent survey conducted by Israel’s Channel 10 TV concluded that if general elections were held today, Netanyahu would garner 28 per cent of votes, while his closest contenders, Avi Gabbay of the Zionist Camp and Yair Lapid of Yesh Atid would each get 11 per cent of the vote.

“The next stage, which is drawing near, is for the citizens of Israel to re-elect a criminal as their leader and entrust their fate to him,” leading Israeli columnist Akiva Eldar wrote in response to Netanyahu’s continued popularity despite accusations of corruption and repeated police investigations.

But Eldar should not be surprised. Political corruption, bribery and misuse of public funds have been the norm, not the exception, in Israeli politics.

Alex Roy put it more succinctly in a recent piece in the Times of Israel: “The fact that [Netanyahu] still has a good chance of being the prime minister after these coming elections says more about how used to corruption we have become than how clean he is.”

Roy wrote that his country “has gotten used to political criminals” simply because “each prime minister over the last quarter century has at some point faced criminal charges”.

He is right, but there are two major points that are missing in the discussion which had been, until recently, mostly confined to Israeli media.

First, the nature of the suspected misconduct of Netanyahu is different from his predecessors’. This matters greatly.

Second, Israeli society’s apparent acceptance of corrupt politicians might have less to do with the assumption that they have “gotten used” to the idea and more with the fact that the culture, as a whole, has grown corrupt. And there is a reason for it.

To elucidate, Netanyahu’s alleged corruption is rather different from that of former Israeli prime minister Ehud Olmert.

Olmert was corrupt the old-fashioned way. In 2006, he was found guilty of accepting bribes while serving as mayor of Jerusalem. In 2012, he was convicted for breach of trust and bribery, this time as prime minister. In 2015, he was sentenced to six years imprisonment.

Other top Israeli officials were also indicted, including president Moshe Katsav, who was convicted of rape and obstruction of justice.

These charges remained largely confined to a person or two, making the nature of the conspiracy quite limited.

Israeli and Western media pundits used such prosecutions to make a point regarding the health of Israel’s democracy, especially when compared to its Arab neighbours.

Things are different under Netanyahu. Corruption in Israel is becoming more like mafia operations, roping in elected civil servants, military brass, top lawyers and large conglomerates.

The nature of the investigations that are closing in on Netanyahu points to this fact.

Netanyahu is embroiled in “File 1000”, where the prime minister and his wife accepted gifts of large financial value from a renowned Hollywood producer, Arnon Milchan, in exchange for favours that, if confirmed, required Netanyahu to use his political influence as the prime minister.

“File 2000” is the “Yisrael Hayom” affair. In this case, Netanyahu reached a secret deal with the publisher of the leading Yedioth Ahronoth newspaper, Arnon Mozes, whereby Yedioth agreed to cut down its criticism of Netanyahu’s policies in exchange for the latter’s promise to decrease the sale of a rival newspaper, Yisrael Hayom.

Yisrael Hayom is owned by pro-Israel American business tycoon Sheldon Adelson, Netanyahu’s close and powerful ally until the news of the Yedioth deal surfaced. Since then, Yisrael Hayom turned against Netanyahu.

“File 3000” is the German submarines affair.

Top national security advisers, all very closely aligned to Netanyahu, were involved in the purchase, deemed unnecessary, of German submarines that cost the government billions of dollars. Large sums of this money were siphoned by Netanyahu’s inner circle and transferred to secret, private bank accounts.

This case, in particular, is significant regarding the widespread corruption in Israel’s uppermost circles.

Central to this investigation are Netanyahu’s cousins and two closest confidantes: his personal lawyer, David Shimron and the country’s “de-facto foreign minister”, Isaac Molcho. The latter has managed to build an impressive, but largely hidden, network for Netanyahu, where the lines of foreign policy, massive government contracts and personal business dealings are largely blurred.

There is also the “Berzeq affair”, involving Israeli telecommunication giant Berzeq and Netanyahu’s political ally and friend Shlomo Filber.

Netanyahu was the minister of communication until he was ordered by court to step down in 2016. According to media reports, his handpicked replacement, Filber, served the role of “spy” for the telecommunication powerhouse to ensure that critical decisions made by the government are communicated in advance to the company.

Most intriguing about Netanyahu’s corruption is that it is not a reflection of him alone: this is layered corruption, involving a large network of Israel’s upper echelons.

There is more to the Israeli public’s willingness to accept corruption than its inability to stop it.
Corruption in Israeli society has become particularly endemic after the occupation of East Jerusalem, the West Bank and Gaza in 1967.

The idea that ordinary Israelis can move into a Palestinian house, evict the family, claim the house as their own, with the full support of the military, the government and the court exemplifies moral corruption of the highest degree.

It was only a matter of time before this massive corruption racket — military occupation, the settlement enterprise, the media whitewashing of Israeli crimes — seeped into the mainstream Israeli society, which has become rotten to the core.

While Israelis might have “gotten used” to their own corruption, Palestinians have not, because the price of Israel’s moral corruption is too high for them to bear.

Zimbabwe crisis: We Are Targeting Criminals, Not Mugabe, Says Army

Army General Constantino Chiwenga Commander of the Zimbabwe Defence Forces addressing a media conference held at the Zimbabwean Army Headquarters in Harare. Zimbabwe’s military has read out a statement after taking over the national broadcaster, ZBC, saying it has taken action to “target criminals”, BBC reports.

However, it said this was not “a military takeover of government” and President Robert Mugabe was safe.

Heavy gunfire and artillery were heard in northern suburbs of the capital, Harare, early on Wednesday.

Zimbabwe’s envoy to South Africa, Isaac Moyo, earlier dismissed talk of a coup, saying the government was “intact”.

The statement read out by Maj Gen Sibusiso Moyo came hours after soldiers overran the headquarters of ZBC. He said: “We wish to assure the nation that his excellency the president… and his family are safe and sound and their security is guaranteed.”


The statement added: “We are only targeting criminals around him who are committing crimes… that are causing social and economic suffering in the country. As soon as we have accomplished our mission, we expect that the situation will return to normalcy.”

The statement did not name those targeted but a government source quoted by Reuters said Finance Minister Ignatius Chombo was among those detained.

It is not clear who is leading the military action.

Other key points of the statement included:

Thirteen countries may have shunned Nigeria’s crude oil as data obtained from the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, shows they have not purchased the product since 2016. According to the data, Crude Oil by Destination report of the NNPC, the last time Uruguay, Poland and Colombia purchased crude from Nigeria, was June 2016. Cape Verde was said to have its last purchase in November 2016 while Benin Republic, Togo and Tunisia made their last purchases in April 2016. The same thing applies to Taiwan and Japan, whose last purchase was in April 2016.

Ireland, Turkey, Norway and Croatia, have not purchased crude from Nigeria since April 2016. Of late, there have been growing concerns over the continued profitability of Nigeria’s crude sales, as several countries are planning to phase out diesel and petrol cars from their roads in the distant future.

A historic and binding agreement that will eliminate all manner of rancour and distractions around Nigeria’s preparation and participation at the 21st FIFA World Cup finals in Russia was signed in the Russian city of Krasnodar yesterday. The meeting to prepare the agreement was held on Sunday night in the same city.
 
NFF President Amaju Pinnick, Vice Presidents Seyi Akinwunmi and Shehu Dikko, General Secretary Mohammed Sanusi and Technical and Development Committee chairman Yusuf Ahmed Fresh represented the NFF, while Technical Adviser Gernot Rohr, Chief Coach Salisu Yusuf, Team Administrator Enebi Achor and Captain Mikel John Obi, Ahmed Musa, Kenneth Omeruo and William Ekong stood in for the team.
 
Before the meeting, Pinnick, who made an impressive remark at the FIFA World Cup Trophy Tour that made a stop in Krasnodar yesterday, told thenff.com that the NFF was determined to, with the single agreement, put behind it all the crises and confrontations that had bedevilled African teams’ participation at the FIFA World Cup in the past.

 
At the end, NFF Second Vice President/Chairman of Strategic Committee, Shehu Dikko confirmed to thenff.com: “We have done it; we have concluded negotiations and come to agreement with the team as regards bonuses, allowances and share of income from FIFA for the 2018 World Cup. Every detail has been agreed on match bonus for each match and each round up to the Final as well as share of income from FIFA money for each round until the stage we are able to get to at the finals.
 
“We also agreed on preparation, such as how much players will be paid for the friendly matches, including how and when the monies would be paid. We even delved into how the NFF would apply the funds due to it from FIFA after paying the players their share.”
 
Pinnick and Sanusi signed for the NFF while Gernot Rohr and Salisu Yusuf signed for the technical crew and Captain Mikel Obi and Ahmed Musa signed for the players.
 
“The agreement represents the full and final understanding between the NFF and the team for the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia and not subject to review or negotiations, except there is a review by FIFA of what it has approved and published as prize money for the participating countries.
 
“We have opted for this international best practice in order to fully motivate the team and ensure there are no distractions or discontent before and during the tournament,” Dikko added.

 
It is the first time in the history of Nigeria’s participation in international championships that a formal agreement between the Federation and the team is documented, and the major actors see this as a catalyst for the Super Eagles’ best performance ever at the FIFA World Cup. It can also be recalled that the NFF ensured there was no distraction over bonuses and allowances for the team during the qualifying campaign, with the Super Eagles easily dominating a so –called ‘Group of Death.’
 
“We are very happy and excited with this development. This is the first time since I started playing for the senior team that I would see everything regarding preparation and bonuses and allowances put down in black and white and a binding agreement executed. It is reassuring that we now have a Federation leadership so committed to making everything work that they arranged this meeting and allowed the players to contribute and then set out to sign the agreement,” Captain Mikel Obi said.

Femi Adesina, Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, has denied claims that President Muhammadu Buhari’s visit to the South-East region was politically motivated.
He rejected the claims yesterday during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today.

Recall that the President left Abuja on Tuesday for Ebonyi State, kicking off his first official visit to the South East since he assumed office in 2015.
“If some people are infusing political motives, they have a right to their thoughts. As far as the President is concerned, this is a state in the country he has been invited to come on a state visit and commission some projects,” Adesina said.
In the defence of his principal, the presidential spokesman explained that the state in question (Ebonyi) is under the control of a party in the opposition, the Peoples Democratic Party.
According to him, the President’s visit, therefore, showed that he meant well for all parts of the country regardless of political affiliations.

Adesina rejected reports that the Buhari-led administration sidelined the zone in his appointments.
“Talking about appointments from the region, if you were here today in the places where the President was received, what is just the general opinion, what they have been asking for is just ‘more.’ It is not as if we have not gotten anything, they say thank you for the ones we have but we want more.
“And if you ask people from other parts of the country, it will be the same request; it will be the same sentiment. Thank you for what you have given us, but we want more.
“So, it not only one region of the country that has issues about being under-appointed or under-represented in government, almost every region can lay claim to that,” he added.

Dismisses Dudafa’s application for medical care abroad
A federal High Court, Lagos, has granted an order temporarily freezing N350 million belonging to AM-PM Global Network Limited, alleged to have been secretly hidden in an account with Stanbic-IBTC Bank by former First Lady, Patience Jonathan.
Justice Hadiza Rabiu-Shagari ordered the temporary freezing of the account following an ex-parte application filed by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and argued by its counsel, Mr. Rotimi Oyedepo.
In a nine-paragraph affidavit attached to the ex-parte application and sworn to by an operative of the EFCC, Mr. Musbau Yahaya, the commission said it sometimes ago received a damning intelligence report concerning the funds.

It further averred that upon investigation, it was found out that the bank was in possession of proceeds of unlawful act and retained same in the account sought to be attached.

The commission stated that between June 20, 2012 and November 15, 2013, the respondent (AM-PM Global Network Limited), fraudulently received N1,206, 950 billion into its Diamond Bank account number 0026718889, being proceeds of unlawful enrichment derived by Patience Jonathan, who was then appointed Permanent Secretary by the Bayelsa State Government.
Yahaya also swore that in a bid to dissipate the fund, the respondent opened account number 0016971559 with Stanbic-IBTC Bank at Walter Carrington Crescent, Victoria Island branch.
He also averred that out of N1,206,950 billion, AM-PM Global Network Limited transferred N350 million from its Diamond Bank’s account to the account sought to be attached in Stanbic IBTC in a desperate bid to dissipate the funds.
Justice Rabiu-Shagari after listening to the submissions made by the EFCC counsel, ordered the Manager of Stanbic-IBTC Bank, Walter Carrington Crescent branch, to in the interim freeze the N350 million belonging to AM-PM Global Network Limited kept in the bank.
Also, Justice Mohammed Idris of the Federal High Court, Lagos, has declined the application filed by Mr. Waripamo-Owei Dudafa, aide to former President Goodluck Jonathan, to travel abroad for medical care.

Dudafa, through his counsel, Mr. Gboyega Oyewole (SAN), had urged the court to order the release of his international passport to enable him travel abroad for medical care.for spinal cord injury allegedly sustained while in the custody of the EFCC.
The prosecuting counsel, Mr. Rotimi Oyedepo, urged the court not to grant the application on the grounds that the EFCC had written to a Lagos State government hospital to examine Dudafa’s health and to determine whether he could be treated in the country or abroad.
Ruling on the application yesterday, the trial judge said he could not disregard the overwhelming evidence given by the prosecutor and grant Dudafa’s application.He said that expert report received about his condition established that he could be treated in Nigeria.

Mother of four loses quintuplets in one day
A Kenyan mother who gave birth to extremely rare naturally-conceived quintuplets has lost all five babies, according to a hospital in the south-west of the country.

The mother, Jacintah Akinyi, 30 – who did not know she was carrying five babies – went into labour on Sunday and gave birth to two babies at home, who both died, before being transferred to the Kisii Teaching and Referral hospital.
Nurse Manager Florence Ogero said a third baby died that night, due to being underweight and suffering a condition caused by low levels of blood platelets.
The other one had severe pneumonia and from all those birth-related complications, these babies have succumbed,” she told AFP.
“It was a premature delivery and the mother did not attend antenatal clinic. The multiple deliveries were diagnosed upon delivery so there was no anticipation,” she added.
“We have tried our level best because they were being taken care of by a competent team.”
Akinyi is already the mother of four children, and lost a fifth in an earlier pregnancy.
There is a one in 60 million chance of a mother falling pregnant with five babies, without hormone treatment, experts say.

When I found clothes I liked, I longed to tweak them. I began to resist some standard ideas and language of global — which is to say narrowly western — fashion. The depiction of bright colours as bold or daring, black as the unimpeachable hallmark of sophistication, and beige as neutral, for example, were based on a specific pale-skinned standard. For a dark-skinned person, blue might be a better black, brighter colours more ordinary than daring, and neutral negotiable.
My greatest gripe was with the word “modest”, used to describe clothes for what they were not — short or body-baring — rather than for what they were. “Modest” brought a moral, frumpy taint to what was often an aesthetic choice. I loved midi lengths because I found them sexy, sleeves because they were more flattering, higher necklines for their air of confident chic. I designed my own clothes, and my tailor, Razak, made them in Lagos. Razak was talented and distracted and unreliable. He was also convinced that he was an undiscovered music star. It was 2016 and Nigeria’s economy was in chaos. President Buhari’s government had instituted a retrograde currency policy, the value of the naira plummeted, and suddenly everyone was talking about “buy Nigerian products to grow the naira”.

I would be supporting the different layers of the industry, from the button-sewer to the delivery person, and I hoped to bring other buyers to Nigerian brands. Nigeria has always had a thriving fashion scene. I admired, early on, the seamless structures of Deola Sagoe, the unusual flair of Zizi Cardow, but they seemed unreachable. Now there was a new generation of designers, with a grassroots vigour and visibility made possible by social media. A modern long-sleeved cotton shift with a sly cut-out at the shoulder, which I wore to the American Academy of Arts and Letters induction in New York. I recently ordered another dress from her. “Pay a deposit so I can go to the market and buy the fabric,” she told my cousin, which I found an endearing example of Nigerian striving.

But my 20-year-old twin nieces Chisom and Amaka, full of that terrifying millennial savoir-faire, laughed. “Aunty you should have an Instagram page,” Amaka said. “We’ll handle it for you.” They were unhappy with the first photos I took. Not bright or clear enough, they said. Their eyes are conditioned to the ersatz poses and stylised photos of social media, where people dress specifically to be photographed in well-lit spaces. Book events are not usually photo-friendly, too dark, too indifferent to optics. And it doesn’t help that I loathe being photographed. A camera before me results automatically in my being knotted with awkwardness: finger-twiddling, breath-holding, mouth-twisted, body off-kilter.
Now, six months later, my nieces have made peace with the photos not being Instagram-perfect. “At least they’re real,” they said, as scant consolation. Dead baby discovered blocking drain (Graphic photos)
The dead body of a baby boy was found by a repairmen after he was called out to unblock a drain in Sri Racha, Thailand on Monday.

Initial reports suggested that the fetus was no more than 6-7 months old, but it is not yet clear as to whether the boy was born healthy and then killed, or if he was a still born.
The shocking discovery was made at Charoen Sin apartment complex. At the scene, the 27 years old repairman who was unfortunate enough to make the discovery was waiting to show police where the body was.
Police gathered photographic evidence before transferring the body to a local hospital, where a full examination will take place to determine the exact cause of death.
Police are now waiting on the results from the hospital before continuing with their investigation.
They have, however, been able to locate the suspected mother and father of the baby through various tip offs from worried locals.

• Commissions 77 blocks of classrooms in Alimosho, Mushin, Epe, others
Government Akinwunmi Ambode of Lagos State has said that his administration will not relent in its efforts to provide quality education to every child in the state.
Ambode spoke simultaneously at the commissioning of several blocks of classrooms and school infrastructures across the state, adding that his administration’s resolve to ensure qualitative education for children prompted the investment of resources towards the provision and upgrading of infrastructure, particularly at the primary school level.
He said: “More importantly, the basic education level is a crucial stage because it is the foundation upon which all other levels are built. It is our desire therefore to ensure that this level of education is strengthened to enhance the future prospects of our children and their ability to cope with the challenges of higher levels of education.”

The governor was represented by his deputy, Dr. Oluranti Adebule, at the commissioning of the newly constructed block of 13 classrooms with other educational facilities at Community Primary School, Oke Ishagun in Alimosho.
Ambode said his administration will not deviate from its vision to develop a robust public education system that would compare with the best in the world, just as he restated his administration’s commitment to ensuring that the ongoing rehabilitation and construction of classrooms is extended to all public schools in the state irrespective of the area and location.
The governor commended teachers in Lagos for their role in molding the lives of children, assuring that their dedication to their growth and development will continue to be rewarded by his administration with improved welfare and working conditions.
“To our pupils, the future belongs to you if you listen to your teachers and your parents. You can achieve anything you put your mind to but you must work hard and pay attention. Read your books and focus on achieving your dreams and develop yourself daily,” he said.
The governor also commissioned the newly rehabilitated Block of 32 Classrooms with office and toilets, school hall, fence, gate house and food shop at Christ Church Cathedral Primary School, Broad Street; block of 13 classrooms with toilets, offices and fire alarm at Community Primary School, Abule Eko, Ijede, Lagos; Block of 13 classrooms with toilets, offices and fire alarm at Community Primary School, Ado Ikosi, Epe, Lagos and six classrooms with toilets, offices and fire alarm at Odu Abore Primary School, Mushin, Lagos.

Britain’s most notorious prisoner, Charles Bronson today wed 37-year-old actress Paula Williamson at HM Prison Wakefield where he is currently imprisoned.

Originating as a petty criminal, Bronson was sentenced to seven years’ imprisonment for armed robbery in 1974. He was later returned to prison for planning another robbery and continued to be a violent inmate, taking numerous hostages, resulting in him being sentenced to life imprisonment.
Only five people are believed to have witnessed Bronson, 64, saying ‘I do’ to Paula in the behind closed doors ceremony which was was shrouded in secrecy.
Paula who fell in love with Bronson after becoming his penpal, arrived in a silver-blue Mercedes with the words ‘Just Married’ in individual letters strung to its rear and was guided into the prison by friends with the blanket covering her face.

I sustained serious injuries’ – Falz’s dad Femi Falana falls into manhole, threatens to sue FG
Human rights lawyer, Mr. Femi Falana (SAN) and father of Nigerian rapper Falz, has said he will on Wednesday  (today) sue the Federal Government following the injuries he sustained after falling into a manhole.
Falana said this while delivering his speech at the National Stakeholders’ Summit on Whistle-blowing in Abuja on Tuesday.
He said, “I am sure you saw me limping and using a walking stick when I was coming in. It is because I fell into a manhole while walking to my office on Shehu Shagari Way.
 
“I broke my leg and I am even wearing plaster of Paris and I was even hospitalised. So, I won’t, like the ordinary Nigerian, leave it to God.
“I have decided that tomorrow I will sue the Federal Government.”
Falana also flayed Governor Rochas Okorocha for erecting statues in honour of the South African President, Jacob Zuma, and his Liberian counterpart, Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf.

The human rights lawyer said both presidents had corruption cases in their countries and Okorocha was insulting the sensibilities of Nigerians. (Punch)

Argentina striker Sergio Aguero taken to hospital after fainting during loss to Nigeria
Sergio Aguero was taken to hospital after fainting at half-time in Argentina’s friendly defeat against Nigeria, the Argentine Football Federation announced.
The Manchester City striker scored after 36 minutes in Krasnodar, Russia, to put Argentina 2-0 ahead, but did not come out for the second half and was replaced by Dario Benedetto.
The Argentina Football Federation stated in a Twitter post: “(Aguero medical bulletin) He fainted and was therefore transferred to carry out routine checks just as a precaution.”
Speaking after the 4-2 defeat, in which Arsenal forward Alex Iwobi scored twice as Nigeria mounted a comeback, Argentina manager Jorge Sampaoli said on the federation website: “Sergio (Aguero) got dizzy and had to leave at half-time.”
The developments in Russia are the latest health concerns for the City forward, who suffered a rib injury in a car crash in Amsterdam during October.

BREAKING: Zimbabwe’s military ‘arrest’ President Mugabe and his wife, place them in custody
Zimbabwe’s army said Wednesday it has President Robert Mugabe and his wife in custody and is securing government offices and patrolling the capital’s streets following a night of unrest that included a military takeover of the state broadcaster.
The night’s action triggered speculation of a coup, but the military’s supporters praised it as a “bloodless correction.”
Armed soldiers in armored personnel carriers stationed themselves at key points in Harare, while Zimbabweans formed long lines at banks in order to draw the limited cash available, a routine chore in the country’s ongoing financial crisis. People looked at their phones to read about the army takeover and others went to work or to shops.
In an address to the nation after taking control of the Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation, an army spokesman said early Wednesday the military is targeting “criminals” around Mugabe, and sought to reassure the country that order will be restored.
It was not clear where Mugabe, 93, and his wife were Wednesday but it seems they are in the custody of the military. “Their security is guaranteed,” the army spokesman said.
“We wish to make it abundantly clear that this is not a military takeover,” the army statement said. “We are only targeting criminals around (Mugabe) who are committing crimes that are causing social and economic suffering in the country in order to bring them to justice.”
The spokesman added
“as soon as we have accomplished our mission, we expect that the situation will return to normalcy.” The army spokesman called on churches to pray for the nation.
He urged other security forces to “cooperate for the good of our country,” warning that “any provocation will be met with an appropriate response.”
The statement called on troops to return to barracks immediately, with all leave canceled.
Overnight, at least three explosions were heard in the capital, Harare, and military vehicles were seen in the streets.

The military actions appear to put the army in control of the country.
Army commander Constantino Chiwenga had threatened on Monday to “step in” to calm political tensions. Mugabe’s ruling ZANU-PF party responded by accusing the general of “treasonable conduct.” But now Chiwenga appears to be in control.
The army has been praised by the nation’s war veterans for carrying out “a bloodless correction of gross abuse of power.” The military will return Zimbabwe to “genuine democracy” and make the country a “modern model nation,” said Chris Mutsvangwa, chairman of the war veterans’ association, told The Associated Press in Johannesburg.
Mutsvangwa and the war veterans are staunch allies of Emmerson Mnangagwa, who was fired from his post of vice president by Mugabe last week. Mnangagwa fled Zimbabwe last week but said he would return to lead the country.
The U.S. Embassy closed to the public Wednesday and encouraged citizens to shelter in place, citing “the ongoing political uncertainty through the night.” The British Embassy issued a similar warning, citing “reports of unusual military activity.”
For the first time, this southern African nation is seeing an open rift between the military and Mugabe, the world’s oldest head of state who has ruled since independence from white minority rule in 1980. The military has been a key pillar of his power. (Times)

2 more Nigerians killed in South Africa in 48 hours
Grief-stricken Nigerian community in South Africa has confirmed the vicious killing of two members in that country within 48 hours, barely a month after President Jacob Zuma was honoured by the Imo Government.
In October, a Nigerian man was shot dead in South Africa over an alleged 300 Rand (about N7,500) parking lot debt. Xenophobic attack in South Africa No fewer than 116 Nigerians have been sent to their early graves in the country through extra-judicial means in the last two years, according to Special Assistant to the President on Foreign Affairs and Diaspora, Mrs. Abike Dabiri-Erewa.
A dependable source close to the Nigerian community told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on telephone from Johannesburg on Tuesday that the first victim, Ikechukwu Mmanwoke Edmond, 40, was killed on Nov. 11. The source said the deceased, a businessman and native of Ihembosi, Ekwusigo Local Government Area of Anambra, was killed in front of his house on Amant Street, Malvern, Johannesburg.
It quoted an eyewitness and neighbour of Ikechukwu, Sibongile as saying that six men came to their house and started breaking doors and taking out their personal effects.
When she (Sibongile ) raised alarm, they started beating her. When Ikechukwu came in and saw what was happening, he brought out his phone to call the police. “A member of the gang took a brick and hit him in the face and he fell down.
When the police arrived, he was already dead,” the source told NAN. According to the source, police said they have commenced “investigation’’ into the death of the businessman.
The second victim, Eluka Agu, native of Ihiala also from Anambra, was allegedly robbed and then beaten by some South Africans at Oliven, Centurion on Monday (Nov. 13). The report said the police came and took him away to his house for a search.
The victim pleaded with the police to take him to the hospital for treatment but they refused. “After searching his house without finding anything, he died as a result of the severe beating’’.
As usual, the Nigerian community in the area which expressed worry about the incidents, had vowed to take up the matter with “appropriate authorities’’, the source added.   Dabiri-Erewa, while reacting to the gruesome killing of a Nigerian, Tochukwu Nnadi, by police in South Africa which has brought the number of Nigerians massacred in the country to 20 in 2016 alone, had described it as  “unacceptable to the people and government of Nigeria’’.
The barbaric behaviour of the perpetrators is not only unacceptable, but also calls for urgent attention by diplomatic authorities in Nigeria and South Africa,” she said, reiterating President Muhammadu Buhari’s call to Nigerians to avoid crimes such as drug peddling which attracts stiff penalties, sometimes death.
Dabiri-Erewa urged the South African government to ensure that justice prevailed by carrying out investigation and bring the culprit to book. NAN also reports that On Oct.11, Mr Jelili Omoyele, a 35-year-old cellular phone technician, was allegedly shot dead in Johannesburg while Olamilekan Badmus, a 25-year-old from Ogun, was also killed at Vaal Vreneging, near Johannesburg.
On the same day, a third Nigerian identified as Ifeanyi, a chicken seller, was accidentally shot in the head by the police. On Oct. 15, Imo Gov. Rochas Okorocha unveiled a statue in honour of South African President Jacob Zuma, who witnessed the event. Apart from the statue, a road was also named after  Zuma with a traditional title of Ochiagha Imo by Eze Imo, Samuel Ohiri, to crown the state honour bestowed on him.
During the military administration of the then Gen. Olusegun Obasanjo, Nigeria spearheaded the struggles that ended Aparthied in South Africa. Among other efforts, the military administration of Gen. Obasanjo contributed $3.7 million to the fund and also committed personal donation of $3,000 to the fund. Explaining the call for vibrancy from the students, Adams said “I am not advocating that unionism should be used in violent manner, but the time is now to use our intellect for liberation.
“The time is now for you to stand up to defend the interest of the people . We dont fight the struggle on the basis of violence anymore, and for us to move this country forward, we must address those issues confronting us intellectually” the Aare said, stressing that the students have a big role to play in this because they are the future of the country.

ABUJA— THE Senate has begun a probe into alleged N20 trillion unremitted stamp duties revenue in the last five years.
It also said over N7 trillion in stamp duties revenue from electronic cashless transactions had remained unpaid to the federation since 2015.
Consequently, the Senate, yesterday, mandated its Committees on Finance and Banking, Insurance and other Financial Institutions to urgently carry out a holistic investigation into the matter and report back at plenary within eight weeks.
While hailing the tenacity and fortitude of the School of Banking Honours for bringing the issue of unremitted stamp duties revenue to public notice, and for insisting on probity of the Nigerian Inter-Bank Settlement System, the Senate, however, stressed the need for fair and equitable distribution of federal health facilities in all six geo-political zones of the country in response to several demands.
The resolutions of the Senate were sequel to a motion by Senator John Owan Enoh (APC, Cross River Central), entitled: “Urgent need to investigate allegations of Unremitted Stamp Duty Revenue running into trillions of naira.”
The motion was co-sponsored by Senators Umaru I. Kurfi (APC, Katsina Central); Bayero Usman Nafada (APC, Gombe North); Joshua Dariye Chibi (APC, Plateau Central); Hope Uzodinma (PDP, Imo West) and Yahaya A. Abdullahi (APC, Kebbi North).
Others are Senators Yusuf A. Yusuf (APC, Taraba Central); Sani Mustapha (APC, Niger South); Nelson A. Effiong (APC, Akwa Ibom South); Mohammed Nakudu (APC, Jigawa South-West) and Adeola Solomon (APC, Lagos West).
In his presentation, Senator Enoh said: “The Senate notes that the Stamp Duty Act is one of the oldest and enduring laws in Nigeria since 1939, and that application of stamp duties has institutionally been a significant revenue earner for both federal and state governments since independence, thus accounting for almost a quarter of the taxation resources, annually;
“It is aware of the necessity to upgrade and reactivate the provisions of the Stamp Duty Act to include modern and efficient methods of taxation, it is imperative to ensure that the existing Stamp Duty Act is made to work for the federal and state governments;
“The Senate is perturbed by recent reports in the media that over N7 trillion in stamp duties revenue from electronic cashless transactions remain unpaid to the federation since 2015, and that the total volume of unremitted stamp duties fund is about N20 trillion.
“It is worried that the provision for stamp duty in the revenue framework of the nation’s annual budget for 2015, 2016 and 2017 has been N8.713b, N66.138b and 16.96b respectively despite the above reports; apprised of the anti-stamp duties collection stance of the Nigerian Inter-Bank Settlement System, NIBSS.
“It is currently being accused of systemic diversion of huge revenue flows from stamp duties collection on the electronic transfer receipt on online bank transactions, and the necessity to demand notice on all unremitted stamp duties.
“The Senate acknowledges the patriotic role of the School of Banking Honours, SBH, a body corporate approved through registration by the Nigerian Copyrights Commission to research into banking operations, facilitate collaboration between banks, and also ensure collaboration between banks and the Government, and to represent the government in facilitating the imposition and monitoring of stamp duty on all electronic cash transactions;
“It is informed that the Central Bank of Nigeria declared in 2013 that stamp duties revenue accruals from five states only were over N160 billion.

The Federal High Court in Lagos on Tuesday froze the sum of N350m found in the Stanbic IBTC Bank account of a company, AM-PM Global Network Limited, said to have links with the wife of ex-President Goodluck Jonathan, Patience.
Justice Hadizat Shagari froze the company’s account following an ex parte application by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.
The EFCC, in the ex parte application, claimed that its investigation revealed that the N350m was part of a sum of N1, 206,950,000, being proceeds of Patience’s unlawful enrichment kept in the company’s Diamond Bank account.
The anti-graft agency stated that it was in its desperate bid to dissipate the money that AM-PM Global Network Limited transferred N350m out the N1.2bn into an account it opened at the Walter Carrington, Victoria Island branch of Stanbic IBTC.
An operative of the EFCC, Musbau Yahaya, who deposed to a nine-paragraph affidavit in support of the ex parte application, averred that, “I know as a fact and I verily believe that our investigation has revealed the following facts: (a) That between the 20th day of June, 2012 and the 15th day of November, 2013, the respondent (AM-PM Global Network Limited) fraudulently received a total sum of N1,206,950,000 into its Diamond Bank account No. 0026718889, being proceeds of unlawful enrichment derived by Mrs. Dame Patience Jonathan, who was a permanent secretary appointed by the Bayelsa State Government.
“(b) That in a bid to dissipate the funds, the respondent opened account No. 0016971559 with Stanbic IBTC.
“© That out of the alleged proceeds of unlawful enrichment of Mrs. Dame Patience Jonathan, the respondent transferred the total sum of N350,000,000 from its account in Diamond Bank to the account sought to be attached in a desperate move to dissipate the funds.
“(d) That we have traced the said N350,000,000 to the respondent’s account sought to be attached and the order of this honourable court is needed to instruct the bank to attach the account to prevent the dissipation of the funds.”

The Senate on Tuesday unanimously resolved to allow Senator Ali Ndume (Borno-South) to resume on Wednesday (today) from his six-month suspension by the chamber.
The Deputy President of the Senate, Ike Ekweremadu, who presided over the plenary on Tuesday, made the announcement after an executive (closed-door) session held by the lawmakers.
Ekweremadu said the lawmakers resolved at the closed-door session that the former Majority Leader be allowed to resume “without prejudice to the case pending in court.”
The Senate had on Monday appealed against a Federal High Court judgment on Friday, which nullified the suspension of the Borno-South senator.
The upper chamber of the National Assembly, which stated through its lawyer, Chief Mike Ozekhome (SAN), in a statement on Sunday, disclosed that it would also apply for stay of execution at the Court of Appeal.
The Senate had on March 29, 2017, suspended Ndume for six months for not “conducting due diligence” before filing a petition against the Senate President, Bukola Saraki; and the lawmaker representing Kogi West Senatorial District, Dino Melaye.
The FHC, however, voided the suspension in the judgment delivered on the suit marked FHC/ABJ/CS/551/2017, which Ndume filed to challenge his suspension for 90 legislative days.
Ndume had on Friday said he would not be surprised but disappointed if the Senate appealed against the judgment.
Ndume was suspended “for bringing Senator Dino Melaye, his colleague, and the institution of the Senate to unbearable disrepute.”
The Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges and Public Petitions made the recommendation in its report, which was adopted by the lawmakers.
The panel had recommended that the lawmaker be suspended for one year but some senators pleaded that the punishment be reduced to six months, which was unanimously approved.
Ndume had on March 21, 2017, urged the Senate to investigate the allegation that an armoured Range Rover car reportedly worth N298m, but which the chamber later said cost $298,000, seized by Nigeria Customs Service and belonged to the President of the Senate, Bukola Saraki.
The lawmaker also called on the upper chamber of the National Assembly to investigate the certificate scandal involving Melaye.
He recalled that previous certificate scandals involving members of the National Assembly were probed by the lawmakers.
An online news portal, Sahara Reporters, which made the allegation in a report published on March 18, 2017, said the seizure of the Sports Utility Vehicle, allegedly belonging to Saraki, was the reason why the Senate was moving against the Controller General of the NCS, Col. Hammed Ali (retd.).
The medium reported that the car was intercepted and impounded on January 11, 2017, by the service for allegedly having fake documents.

The Federal Government said on Tuesday that the 2,671 pump action rifles illegally imported from Turkey but intercepted by the Nigeria Customs Service on four different occasions in 2017 alone could be linked to the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Mr. Nnamdi Kanu.
This was part of the submission made by the Solicitor-General of the Federation and Permanent-Secretary, Federal Ministry of Justice, Mr. Dayo Apata, while opposing IPOB’s motion filed before the Federal High Court in Abuja to challenge the court’s order proscribing it and designating it as a terrorist organisation.
The Federal Government disclosed this in a counter-affidavit filed by the Office of the Attorney General of the Federation and which was deposed to by a litigation officer in the Department of State Services, Mr. Ayuba Adam.
Adam, who disclosed in the counter-affidavit that IPOB was a violent group pretending to be non-violent, said a Turkish citizen, Abdukadir Erahraman, visited Kanu sometimes in July 2017 when he was urging “ Biafrans to rise up and fight a good fight for freedom.”
Drawing a link between the Turkish citizen’s visit to Kanu and the arms smuggled into Nigeria, the counter-affidavit added that the NCS had intercepted 2,671 rifles smuggled from Turkey in 2017 alone.
The counter-affidavit read in part, “That a Turkish citizen, Abdulkadir Erkahraman, visited Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the respondent/applicant in Isiama Afara, Umuahia, Abia State sometimes in July 2017, and has been canvassing support for the secessionist agenda of the respondent/applicant. He also admonished Biafrans to rise up and fight a good fight for freedom.’
“That the Nigeria Customs Service had on four occasions this year intercepted pump action rifles totalling 2,671 illegally imported into the country. Copies of the report on arms smuggling is attached herewith and marked as Exhibit FGN 2A and 2B.”
But IPOB, through a further affidavit filed by its counsel, Mr. Ifeanyi Ejiofor, on Monday, denied any link to the intercepted weapons.
The further affidavit stated, “That contrary to the erroneous deposition in paragraph 6(h) of the applicant/respondent’s counter-affidavit which is denied, the alleged pump action rifles totalling 2,671, illegally imported into the country from Turkey, was not directly traced to Nnamdi Kanu or anyone associated with him.”
The Acting Chief Judge of the Federal High Court, Justice Abdu Kafarati, had on September 20, 2017, made an order proscribing IPOB and designating it as a terrorist group upon an ex parte application by the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Mr. Abubakar Malami (SAN).
But in a motion filed by the group before the same judge on September 22, the group contended that the proscription order was unconstitutional.
The motion was anchored on 13 grounds, first of which was that the proscription order was made without jurisdiction “as the order was granted against an entity unknown to law”.
The AGF office subsequently filed a counter-affidavit justifying the proscription order of the court.
Justice Kafarati heard the two parties on Tuesday after which he adjourned until January 17 for ruling on whether or not the proscription of IPOB should be proscribed.
But the Federal Government insisted on Tuesday that IPOB was a violent organisation.
It stated Kanu was toeing the path that led to the Rwandan genocide by referring to Nigeria as a zoo.

Panic gripped passengers on a Medview Airlines flight coming from Lagos to Abuja on Tuesday as the plane could not land immediately due to outage at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport.
The aircraft hovered in the air for about 10 extra minutes after the pilot announced that the plane was unable to land at the airport.
Passengers on the flight claimed that the pilot could not land the plane at 6:30pm, its scheduled arrival time, due to a shutdown of the runway lights.
However, Abuja airport officials claimed that the runway lights were not affected, insisting that only the taxiway lights were turned off temporarily.
“The pilot announced that the runway lights were not working and that he had to wait a little. The plane hovered for about 10 minutes before it was cleared to land,” a passenger who simply gave his name as Sam told our correspondent.
“I asked one of the crew members who also confirmed that the runway lights went out of service temporarily,” he added
Another passenger said, “When the plane was about to land, the pilot told us that the lights were not working and so we hovered in the air for some minutes and this created panic in the passenger cabin. It was a Medview Airlines flight and this happened around 6:30pm this (Tuesday) evening.”
When contacted, the spokesperson for the NAIA, Mrs. Voke Ivbaze, told our correspondent that the runway lights never went off.
She said, “I made enquiries as soon as I got your request for information on the matter and I can tell you that actually what happened was just the regular change-over.
“Towards evenings like this, the light is changed over to generator so that there won’t be any problem.
“But it was not the runway light that was even affected because that one would have given us more concern. The runway lights were on, it was the taxiway lights; and the taxi way does not affect the landing of any aircraft. The regular change-over is for the safety of passengers and everyone onboard.
“We don’t want a situation where there will be power outage during the landing of an aircraft, so usually we change to generators until the last flight in the night lands. The runway lights were not affected; in fact we confirmed from the control tower and it was only the taxiway lights that were offered briefly and they came back on.”
When asked if pilots were often asked to hover in the sky whenever taxiway lights were switched off, she replied, “No, they are not supposed to hold on or hover like you said, because it does not affect their landing at all. It does not affect their flight activities and it didn’t affect Medview landing today.”

Some Christians frustrate the grace of God in their lives. You shouldn’t do that. Don’t frustrate the grace of God in your life. Rather, let it work to its fullness, to its maximum capacity and final fruition. Let it produce all that it could do in your life. Don’t let it be that Christ died in vain in your life; instead be determined to be all that His death, burial, and resurrection consummated for you.

In our previous study, I shared with you something about the divine life that Jesus brought, where sickness is not a part of your system. The question is, will you let it work, or are you going to be seeking healing? Healing is what we give to the world, and it’s the children’s bread. When you come to maturity, you appropriate divine life, and affirm that it runs through every fibre of your being. You’re conscious that your body, being the temple of the Holy Ghost, can’t be sick.

Should anything untoward happen to or in your body, you speak in tongues. Maybe it’s stomach trouble, put your hand on your tummy and speak in tongues. If it doesn’t stop at that moment, you don’t stop speaking in tongues either. The more it persists, the more you shout in tongues. Frighten the devil out. James 4:7 says, _*“…Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.”*_

You may ask, “What if the pain is so severe that it’s even difficult to talk, let alone shout?” If you have to whisper it, go ahead. Before long, the Spirit will well up from within you and overwhelm the pain. We’re not victims; we’re victors! Your victory over that pain is guaranteed! Hallelujah!

Before you go in for your meetings, maybe it’s a business or a political meeting, whatever it is, take some time to speak in other tongues. Charge up yourself! With the meeting in focus, speak in tongues, then declare, “The wisdom of God is at work in me. Christ is in me. Christ has been made unto me wisdom.” That’s how you appropriate and take advantage of God’s grace to enjoy the benefits of the blessings that are yours in Christ Jesus.

Inspector General of Police, Idris Mohammed has said that the security details of the Anambra State governor were not withdrawn as was erroneously alleged.
He however said it was only the aid-de-camp attached to the governor that was withdrawn due to the previous experiences where such cops worked for their principals.
The Anambra State Governor, Chief Willie Obiano had said his life was in danger following the withdrawal of his security details.
He said the withdrawal was ominous as it had exposed his life to eminent threat.
Mohammed said it was not the first time such action was being taken, assuring that the decision would not in any way affect the security of the governor,
He however assured the restoration of the governor's ADC as soon as the election was over.
"We've authorised the withdrawal of the ADC because of previous experiences where in the past ADCs were arrested with vehicles loaded with arms by soldiers.
"Withdrawal of the ADC would not affect his security because we have a total of 26,000 policemen who would be deployed across the local government areas of the state.
"I want to assure him that on Sunday morning, immediately after the election, the ADC would be in his house," he said.
According to the IGP, there would be restriction of movement within the state and its neighborhood beginning from a day before the election day, as well as the election day proper.
He said the Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr Garba Umar, had already been asked to stepped down for neutrality while another who had no affinity with state would take his place.
"We are bringing entirely new faces to conduct this election. We need your cooperation and support. We are going to conduct 'stop and search;" we are going to raid some black sports," the IGP said.
Reacting, the head of the governor's reelection campaign organisation, Chief Victor Umeh, described the withdrawal of the governor's adc as an act of intimidation to humiliate him.

The Anambra State Governor, Chief Willie Obiano on Monday said he was no longer comfortable standing for the November 18 governorship poll in the state.
He said his life was in danger as far as the poll was concerned, stressing that his security details had been withdrawn.
He said the withdrawal was ominous as it had exposed his life to eminent threat.
Obiano stated this in Awka during an election stakeholders' meeting organized by the Independent National Electoral Commission.
He described the act as unacceptable and dangerous.

But reacting, the National Chairman of INEC, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, said the event was a stakeholders' meeting, and as such no candidate would be accorded any special treatment regardless of his position.
He said the commission insisted on equal treatment of all candidates in the election and should not only have equal standing, but must be respected.

Human rights lawyer, Mr. Femi Falana (SAN), has threatened to sue the Federal Government following his involvement in a road accident.
The human rights lawyer had broken his leg after falling into a manhole while walking to his office in Abuja.
He promised that he would not leave the matter to God like the ordinary Nigerian would, but will sue the government on Wednesday.
Falana who made this known while delivering his speech at the National Stakeholders Summit on Whistleblowing in Abuja on Tuesday said, “I am sure you saw me limping and using a walking stick when I was coming in. It is because I fell into a manhole while walking to my office on Shehu Shagari Way.
“I broke my leg and I am even wearing Plaster of Paris and I was even hospitalised. So, I won’t like the ordinary Nigerian leave it to God.
“I have decided that tomorrow I will sue the Federal Government.”

Following the report of Senate Committee on local and foreign debts which was presented by its Chairman, Shehu Sani, Senate on Tuesday approved USD5.5 billion bond for the Federal government.
In the report, Sani explained that the issuance of USD2.5 billion will finance the 2017 appropriation Act, while USD3.0 billion would be used to refinance domestic debts.
He further maintained that terms and conditions attached to those bonds were favourable to the integrity of the current administration, particularly as it affect the critical infrastructure, the bond was meant to finance.
Sani noted that the debt profile of the nation from his investigations so far was low, adding that the interest on the loan was low based on Nigeria’s exchange rates.
“That the Senate do receive and consider the report of the Committee on local and Foreign Debts on the issuance of USD2.5 billion to finance the 2017 appropriation Act and USD3.0 billion to refinance domestic debts”, Sani submitted.
In a word of caution, Senator Yusuf Abubakar Yusuf representing Taraba Central said, the Federal Government should properly monitor its foreign exchange, adding that payment of foreign debts solely depends on what happened to the foreign exchange rate.
Senator Gbenga Ashafa, urged that the report be approved in view of its cover of critical infrastructure across the six geopolitical zones.
“Mr President, Distinguished colleagues, the loan cover projects that spread across the six geopolitical zones and those projects were critical to Nigerians, so it should be approved”, he said.
“Remember that this 8rh Senate is known to be working for the benefit of Nigerians, and if the Senate approves, we will be turning the country into a construction site”, he added.
Giving further clarification, Senate leader, Ahmed Lawan noted that part of the bond would be used to offset foreign loans in order to reduce pressure on the nation’s foreign reserves.
In his ruling, Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu commended the Federal government for its commitment to development of infrastructure.
He added that government should cautiously monitor its foreign debts.
The report was then unanimously approved.

Telecommunications operator, MTN has disclosed a plan to list its shares on the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE).
The Group Chief Executive Officer, Rob Shuter, disclosed yesterday that the listing might hold in May 2018.
He said the firm was making underground plan for an initial public offering of its Nigerian business, which would be completed in the next six months.
According to him: “We have a lot of advisers running around to get everything ready. It is a complicated process and there’s a lot of regulation that needs to be arranged. But, we are moving forward with the project.”
Shuter told Bloomberg that he was pleased with MTN’s operations in Nigeria and looks forward to listing its stocks on the NSE.
The Guardian leant that the South African firm has appointed Stanbic IBTC Capital Limited and its affiliates as transaction advisors, to undertake the spadework on the proposed listing.
The telecoms firm said Stanbic IBTC would be exercising the mandate together with its affiliates, namely The Standard Bank of South Africa Limited, the Standard Advisory London Limited and Citigroup Global Markets Limited.
It was further leant that the full syndicate would function as Joint Transaction Advisors and Joint Global Coordinators, with Stanbic acting as Lead Issuing House.
It would also include some Nigerian receiving agents, banks and other advisers to be appointed in due course, as appropriate.
The listing of shares was part of the conditions agreed by the MTN with the Nigerian government through the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) early last year.
The disagreement arose from the crisis over the $3.4 billion (N1.04 trillion) fine imposed in October 2015 on the telecommunications firm, for flouting the order on unregistered Subscribers Identification Module (SIM) cards.
In June this year, the General Manager, Nikiwe Tsaagane, assured the Federal Government that the firm would list its shares on the NSE.
He had told the Minister of Science and Technology, Ogbonnaya Onu, that plans were underway to make the shareholders to apply for the listing digitally.
He said: “To achieve this, we are working with the NSE to develop an application platform to enable our customers apply online. It would be the first time that such would be happening in the country.”
Earlier in the year, MTN’s management had explained that the proposed listing would be “subject to suitable market circumstances and conditions, as well as the appropriate approvals from relevant regulators and other stakeholders.”
Going by statistics from the NCC, MTN remains the largest telecommunications firm in Nigeria, with 36 per cent market share and over 50 million subscribers.

ABUJA—STAFF of research institutes and allied institutions in the country, yesterday, in Abuja announced their commencement of indefinite strike over alleged non-implementation of agreement they entered into with the Federal Government.
The three unions are Senior Staff Association of Universities, Teaching Hospitals, Research Institutes and Associated Institutions, SSAUTHRIAI; Academic Staff Union of Research Institutions, ASURI, and Non-Academic Staff Union of Universities and Associated Institutions, NASU.
The unions accused the Federal Government of paying lip service to research for development, even as the leadership of the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, has faulted President Muhammadu Buhari on his alleged tacit endorsement of workers sack by the Kaduna State government.
Briefing journalists on behalf of the affected unions, Chairman of Joint Research and Allied Institutions Sector Unions, JORAISU, and General Secretary of NASU, Comrade Peters Adeyemi, said the strike began in the early hours of yesterday.
Peters Adeyemi, who is also Deputy President of NLC, said the endorsement of the mass sack of more than 22,000 workers at once by government that pledged to create jobs was most unfortunate.
Stating that the NLC would write a protest letter to the Presidency the matter, Adeyemi said: “We condemn the President’s endorsement of the mass sack. How can a President that promised to create jobs turn around to kill jobs? We will not accept these sacks because it did not follow due process
“The state government claimed that the teachers were not qualified, who employed the teachers in the first place? We doubt the veracity of the examination because government can set the examination for the teachers to fail to justify the mass sack action.”
Adeyemi stated that the decision of JORAISU to embark on a fresh strike action was taken after the Federal Government ignored a 15-day strike ultimatum which was issued on 30th October 2017.
He said, “This has been our plight on the issues in dispute with Government and currently all the workers in the Research and Allied Institutions are eager to resume the suspended strike action at expiration of the ultimatum on Tuesday, 14th November, 2017 since Government up till this time has not responded positively to our demand to pay the 12 months salary arrears on Consolidated Research and Allied Institutions Salary Structure (CONRAISS) and implement other issues as agreed upon in the interim report of the Presidential Committee.”

I sold 17-yr-old girl’s parts for N8,500’ – Suspected ritualist
A suspected ritualist, Yewunu Tanlaju, has confessed that he sold the severed parts of a 17 -year-old girl ,Taye Gusinu, to a herbalist for N8, 500.
The 35-year-old suspect allegedly killed the victim last Thursday in Idosemo, Ipokia, Ipokia Local Government Area of Ogun State and then removing seemingly vital body parts.
Tanlaju while speaking with our correspondent at the police headquarters, Eleweran, Abeokuta, the state capital, said the victim was hawking puff-puff, and he lured her into an isolated area and murdered her.
The suspect was paraded with two accomplices, a herbalist, Olusoji Asamo and Joyi Suru.
Explaining how he killed the victim whose decomposing body was also brought to the parade ground, Tanlaju said he seized her from behind, tied her with a rope and slaughtered her.
Tanlaju said Taye was not the first victim he had killed. He said he had earlier killed a 40-year-old woman whose body parts he sold for N10,000.
He said, “It was this man (Olusoji Asamo) who told me to bring human parts. It was at that time I saw the girl selling puff puff in one school. I called her and bought puff pufffrom her.
“When she finished selling, she was going, I seized her from behind and tied her down and I slaughtered her myself. She attempted shouting but I blocked her mouth.
“This is the second time I am killing, it was in the same area but I was not caught then, it was the same Olusoji who requested for human parts then, although I didn’t know what he wanted to use them for.
“When I delivered the parts, he gave me N8,500 because we haven’t agreed on any amount but it was N10,000 he gave me when I delivered the first parts.”

Asamo confessed that the body parts were brought to him immediately the crime was committed, he, however, denied giving out the contract.
The State Police Commissioner, Ahmed Iliyasu, while parading the suspects said they were arrested after a complaint by the father of the victim, Jimoh Gusinu.
He said the arrest was successful with the collaboration of the Ogun State Command of ‘Vigilante Service of Nigeria’.
The father of the deceased,  who was visibly angry while speaking with journalists, demanded justice and warned that under no guise must the suspects be freed.
He said, “The government must also kill them, they are from Tube and I am from Ijofin, we ply the same road and I can’t afford to see police releasing them and I set my eyes on them again.
“If I set my eyes on them, I will not be happy and I will attack them with whatever I can get, the full weight of the law must be allowed to take its course.” (Punch)
