Customs intercepts 200 bags of illegal imported rice at Oron
User Avatar Forum: Politics

The Calabar Free Trade Zone and Akwa Ibom Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has seized 200 bags of smuggled foreign rice at Oron in Akwa Ibom State.
Mrs Burromvyat Patience, the Customs Area Controller in charge of Calabar Free Trade Zone and Akwa Ibom Area Command, made this known to newsmen in Calabar on Saturday.
Patience said that the Heavy Duty Mack Truck that was carrying the 50kg bags of rice was intercepted by the Operating Officers of the command on Nov. 22, on the Oron axis.
She said that the suspects had disguised the rice as sand and covered the bags with empty sacks.
She added that it took the operational intelligence of the officers of the service to discover that it was smuggled parboiled rice that the truck was carrying.
“The NCS is at it again. Today, I present to you a rare seizure; rare in the sense that our operating officers at Oron axis were able to successfully intercept a heavy duty truck with 200 bags of illegally imported rice.
“The seizure is spectacular because the officers went the extra mile to apprehend the suspects, who made frantic efforts to escape.
“The concealment, no doubt was designed to beat the prying eyes of our officers but the reverse became the case.
“The duty paid value of the seizure is put at N5.9million and the truck registration number is NTE 35 XA,’’ she said.
She disclosed that a total of 1,521 bags of smuggled rice were seized by the command between January and October this year with a duty paid value of N34.9 million.
“It will be recalled that in October, this command presented a revenue profit of N7.8 billion which is about 90 per cent of the command’s annual revenue target of N8.7 billion.
“Our successes so far were possible courtesy of the amiable Controller-General of Customs, Col. Hameed Ali (rtd),’’ she said.
She reiterated the command’s commitment to combat all smuggling activities and enforce Federal Government’s fiscal policies.

Anti-corruption: We cannot be prosecutor, jury – Buhari
User Avatar Forum: Politics
Posted by: Edoman - 11-26-2017, 01:11 PM - No Replies

President Muhammadu Buhari has said that criticism of the anti-corruption crusade will not deter his government from ensuring that those who found to have engaged in looting public funds are brought to book.
Instead of being deterred, he said the crusade will be strengthened and fought at all levels.
Buhari who was apparently reacting to insinuations that the fight has not yielded any positive impact said the responsibility of the government t was to investigate and prosecute those found to have wanting, while the judiciary is the one who convict offenders.
The President spoke in an interview published in the 2017/2018 Nigeria Outlook, a study on the economy, governance and investment opportunities in the country compiled by a team of Nigerian professionals led by Reginald Ibe and Dahiru Ganiyu Ali.
He said: “we are succeeding in the anti-corruption war. Cases are being investigated and those indicted are prosecuted. The number of conviction is not within the ambit of the executive.
“Ours is to investigate and charge to court, while it is the duty of the judiciary to convict. We can’t be prosecutor and jury at the same time. We respect the principle of separation of power as enshrined in our constitution. We don’t tele-guide the judiciary and the onus is on that institution to do its work expeditiously.
“The anti corruption war is not limited in scope. Anybody that runs foul of the law will answer for it. We will strengthen the war in due course. You don’t need a national debate to fight corruption. You just need to crack down on corrupt people with fear of favour. We will strengthen the war and fight it at all levels.”
President Buhari said the major task of his government is to make an enduring impact on the life of Nigerians, adding that it is unfortunate that for many decades, “we paid lip service to diversifying the economy.
“But we merely succeeded in turning ourselves into a mono economy. And when oil price crashed, we simply crashed with it as a nation. It should never happen again, and that is why we are focused on Agriculture, mines and steel development, as well as manufacturing. We will lay a solid foundation and build on it. That will ensure that Nigeria will never be at the mercy of just one commodity again.
“Oil will still get attention, but it get it along with ,any other commodities. That is our goal, and Nigeria and the international community can count on our single mindedness as an administration. We are determined to make a difference.”
On the plans of the government to revamp the economy, the President said: “One thing I can say confidently is that the Economic Recovery and Growth plan as enunciated by the administration will place the Nigerian economy on a sound foundation that will stand us in good stead for decades. The duty of the government is to make salutary impacts on the lives of the people and that is what we are resolved to do.
“If you look at the ERGP, you will notice that it projects into the future. That shows you that it has already factored in many things. Anybody that is honest with himself will admit that we have charted a direction that will lead us even far beyond 2020 as a nation.”
On over bloated public service and whether the government has plans to right size, President Buhari said “There is time for everything. This time of parlous economic reality is not the right time to send more people into the Labour market, this is a government with a human face.
“The human being is the Centre of our universe. We met a monthly wage bill of the public service at about N165 billion. It is very easy to say downsize. But rather, we preferred to audit the system and scores of thousands of ghost workers have been discovered in the process.
“We saved more than N20 billion which has reduced the monthly wage bill significantly. We will continue to audit the process, get the correct number of workers we have, rather than retrench and cause more misery. I have said it before and I say it again. If I have my way, no single Nigerian will lose his or her job at this time.”
In the fight against Boko Haram, he said “We have achieved a lot in the fight against Boko Haram. However. A sociological study will be conducted on what caused Boko Haram and what sustained it for so long. That is toward ensuring that such does not reoccur again in this country”

Soldiers Gave Us Human Meat As Suya – Sobowale
User Avatar Forum: Politics
Posted by: Edoman - 11-26-2017, 01:10 PM - No Replies

A veteran journalist and professor of journalism, Idowu Sobowale, has revealed how he and other journalists were served human meat as Suya while covering the events of the civil war.
He said this while calling on people singing war songs to have a rethink, adding that war is not something to joke with.
Sobowale, who also served as a political adviser to a former Lagos State Governor, Lateef Jakande, told Punch how the capital of Anambra State, Awka, was levelled to the ground with no single building standing.
He said, “If you hear people singing war songs, they are most probably people who have never experienced war. Even if you escape, seeing the sufferings of others can be terrifying.
“There was a day when we got to the third marine command and the commander, Benjamin Adekunle, asked if we (journalists) liked Suya, he said we should get into the vehicle and he took us to where Biafra armoured cars had been disabled, with soldiers killed inside them. The place was terribly stinking.
“He said that was the Suya, we should eat. There was also a day we were taken to a small stream that separated the federal troops from the Biafra troops and those people had sharp shooters. The war was so fierce that when we were about to leave, out of the battalion that went, fewer than 20 people came back alive.
“Many had died, many had been so terribly wounded and they were just packed in lorries that brought them to Calabar for treatment. On many occasions, we would be eating and we would just hear gunshot and the soldier or someone else beside you would have been killed.
“That happened several times when we were eating. I had several instances of close shave with death. Let me not say more than that.
One crazy soldier was just coming from behind and he just took a cutlass and split the person ’s head into two just like that.
“It was not a pleasant thing to watch or wish for anybody . Look at Awka , the capital of Anambra State, it was levelled to the ground Not a single house was standing; not one.”

Kaduna: When Teachers Didn't Know The Governor's Name
User Avatar Forum: Politics
Posted by: Edoman - 11-26-2017, 01:09 PM - No Replies

When Governor Nasir El-Rufai announced to a delegation of the World Bank that more than 21, 000 teachers in the employ of Kaduna State government failed a competency test meant for primary four pupils, many Nigerians were justifiably outraged at the decadence in the educational sector.
According to El-Rufai, when the state government, in collaboration with the state chapter of the Nigerian Union of Teachers (NUT), decided to subject its teachers to the competency test in order to evaluate their skills, the exercise was designed to assess their virtuosity but nobody expected the result it produced.
“We tested our 33,000 primary schoolteachers; we gave them primary four examination and required that they must get at least 75 per cent but I am sad to announce that 66 per cent of them failed to make the requirements.
“The hiring of teachers in the past was politicised and we intend to change that by bringing in young and qualified primary schoolteachers to restore the dignity of education in the state”.
As outrageous as the competency test result was, reactions to it have been mixed with Senator Shehu Sani, who many believe to perceive El Rufai’s policies from the prism of their political differences, describing it as “the height of lunacy”.
Sani said, “The sacking of over 21 000 primary schoolteachers by Kaduna State governor stands condemned. It’s inhuman and the height of lunacy by a man who derives pleasure in inflicting suffering and hardship on others.
“How can the governor blow over N10 billion feeding school children only to realise that the teachers are incompetent? El-Rufai’s action has brought nothing but chaos and confusion into public schools in Kaduna.
“He promised the people of the state that he will enrol his children in public schools when he becomes governor. He has not only failed to do that, he is also destroying the educational future of those who chose to send their wards to public schools. Incompetence is not a reason but an excuse to sack thousands of teachers owed salaries for months”.
Meanwhile, the NUT, which was initially part of the competency test, withdrew support for the planned sack of the teachers.
According to the Chairman of the state Council of the NUT, Audu Amba, while the union premised its support for the competency test on 60% pass mark, the state government unilaterally increased the pass mark to 75%.
"We supported the competency test on the grounds that 60 per cent would be the pass mark and those that failed would be re-trained. Governor Nasir El-Rufa’i, however, raised the pass mark to 75 per cent and released the names of the 21,780 teachers who failed for disengagement”, Amba said.
“We wrote a letter to the governor to reconsider his decision, but he went ahead to announce the list of teachers to be disengaged. We have even approached the National Industrial Court to determine whether the state government had the mandate to conduct competency test for teachers”.
He argued that the only approved body authorized to conduct competency tests for teachers in Nigeria was the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria.
The questions!
What were the questions the primary school teachers answered that allegedly exposed their incompetence?
According to the questions leaked to the media, the teachers were asked questions relating to their fields and basic current affairs questions. For instance, one of the questions asked was, “What is the name of the executive governor of Kaduna State?” to which one of the teachers answered, ‘Nasiru’; while another teacher, asked to name two qualities of teaching aids, simply answered, “Stick is a teaching aid; book is a teaching aid”.
But while some observers of the unfolding drama feel that Kaduna State government should shift position on the failed teachers, the governor is adamant in his determination to sanitize the education sector. In a media interview, El-Rufai vowed to keep to the standard of education the state administration had set.
“Everybody knows that we will not be deterred in doing what is right for the future of our children. The NUT thinks this is about politics, making a public show of opposing what they know to be right. Shouldn’t everybody be embarrassed by the test results? Where is the sense of shame? I hear some people say the pass mark for a primary four exam should be 60%; the same people say the state government has no right to test the competence of its employees.
There is no bigger evidence of the crisis in our society than that a union whose members failed a primary four examination thinks it can create problems over the issue rather than be a part of the solution”, he said.
“We are not people that bow to threats. We will respond appropriately. What will be point of that strike? To force us to violate our oath of office and knowingly retain as teachers those who are not qualified? That will not happen”.
And to give impetus to the conviction of the state government to sanitize the education sector, President Muhammadu Buhari backed the planned sack of the teachers.
Presidential seal
In a speech at an education summit organized by the Federal Ministry of Education, Buhari described as “tragic” a situation where teachers could not pass a test their students should have been taught to pass.
The President said, “I listened to one of the Nigerians I respect. He said after his training here in Nigeria and the United States, he went to his alma mater, his primary school, to see what he could contribute.
“I won’t mention his name; but when he went, he couldn’t differentiate between the children and teachers.
“And what El-Rufai is trying to do now is exactly what that man told me about 10 years ago.
“It is a very, very serious situation when teachers cannot pass the examinations they are supposed to teach the children to pass.
“It is a very tragic situation we are in and, this gathering, to me, is one of the most important in this administration.”

Goodluck Jonathan To Atiku: Beg Obasanjo, Get PDP Ticket
User Avatar Forum: Politics
Posted by: Edoman - 11-26-2017, 01:07 PM - No Replies

Lamido, Shekarau, Dankwambo, others may not step down
Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has one more hurdle to cross in his secret deal with some stalwarts of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) led by ex-President Goodluck Jonathan, The nation can authoritatively report.
It was learnt yesterday that Jonathan said Atiku must beg or apologize to ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo to get the 2019 presidential ticket of the PDP on a platter of gold.
Although Obasanjo has quit partisan politics, Jonathan was of the opinion that “he is still a strong factor in shaping the future of the nation in 2019 because he is a force among the revered kingmakers
Former President Jonathan had in early November told the publisher of Ovation magazine in an interview that “If Atiku gets our party ticket, he would compete well. But he would have to reach out to our boss, Baba OBJ, the boss of all bosses. We’ve all learnt at different times that you ignore OBJ at your peril. OBJ has the magic wand. He is respected at home and abroad.”
It was however unclear if Atiku has either accepted the condition or opted to go it alone in seeking the presidential mandate of the PDP.
But some presidential aspirants in PDP were said not to be ready to step down for Atiku, whom Jonathan is working to the answer for.
The aspirants said they prefer to slug it out with Atiku during the presidential primaries.
The affected aspirants are ex-Governor Sule Lamido, ex-Minister Ibrahim Shekarau, Governor Ibrahim Dankwambo and a former governor (now a Senator), who is expected to defect from APC to PDP.
The fate of the Chairman of the Caretaker Committee of PDP, Sen. Ahmed Makarfi on the party’s 2019 ticket was hanging in the balance as at press time.
Findings by our correspondent revealed that the secret deal, which made Atiku to resign from the All Progressives Congress (APC), was comprehensive and targeted at the ex-VP securing the PDP presidential slot.
It was gathered that the package also borders on hijacking the party structure at the National Convention on December 9 to make Atiku’s choice as the PDP presidential candidate a reality.
Following lobbying by Jonathan, some founding fathers of PDP (including a few retired military officers), have been part of the latest course in PDP.
Investigation revealed that most governors of the PDP were said to have bought into the Atiku project in deference to Jonathan.
A top source, who was privy to the deal, said: “The unfolding script on Atiku’s return to PDP has the blessing of some founding fathers of PDP who are out to salvage the party. A major component is a likely waiver for the ex-VP to contest the party’s presidential primaries.
“So far, Atiku is complying with the secret accord for his return to PDP. A formal declaration in Yola is being expected either on Wednesday or December 6 as indicated in a tentative timetable.
“But in one of the negotiation shuttles with Atiku, ex-President Jonathan added a caveat that the former Vice President can comfortably secure PDP ticket and win the 2019 poll if he begs ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo.
“We were all shocked by this condition because Obasanjo is no longer in partisan politics. But Jonathan said Obasanjo is an institution whose action or inaction could make or mar the electoral fortunes of Atiku.
“The former President also believes that Obasanjo may persuade any of the presidential aspirants to withdraw for Atiku after weighing all the indices. He said if Obasanjo could reconcile with him, he can also forgive Atiku.
“As a matter of fact, Jonathan cited cases of chairmanship aspirants in PDP travelling to Abeokuta to seek his blessing.
“We are expecting Atiku to comply with this proviso because we want to begin the media war (based on facts and figures) in earnest.
“Jonathan’s position on Obasanjo has been endorsed by some founding fathers of PDP, especially the military class which contrived the existence of the party.”
Meanwhile, there were indications yesterday that some presidential aspirants in the PDP may not step down for Atiku.
These include Lamido, Shekarau, Dankwambo and a former governor (now a Senator), who is expected to defect from APC to PDP.
It was not clear if the Chairman of the Caretaker Committee of PDP, Sen. Ahmed Makarfi will seek the party’s 2019 ticket.
A governor, who played a significant role in the pact with Atiku, said: “As part of the deal, we have been trying to prevail on some of these aspirants to step down but they have chosen to contest the primaries with the ex-Vice President.
“Some of them queried why a politician will cross from the opposition party and just be given PDP presidential ticket.
“One of the aspirants said since 1999, he has never defected to any party. He said loyalty to the party and competence should be compensated by PDP.
“Well, we have looked into PDP Constitution, it is immaterial when you join, you can enjoy the rights and privileges which a Methuselah member enjoys. Go and look at sections 8 and 18 of our constitution.”
While Section 8(a) and (b) of the PDP Constitution deals with the procedure for rejoining PDP, Section 18 is on the Status of Returnee Members.
Section 8 reads: “A person who desires to rejoin the party after leaving it shall: (a) apply to his Ward Secretary for readmission; and (b) unless given waiver by the National Working Committee(NWC), be placed on probation for a period of not less than one year.
“Subject to the provision of Section 8(b), a member on probation shall have the right to attend all meetings of the party but shall not be entitled to vote at such meetings, nor shall he be eligible to contest for elective office on the platform of the party.
Section 18 says: “A person who has earlier decamped from the party but later decides to return to the party shall lose the seniority and privileges conferred on him by his previous status.”
But the PDP top shot said: “As the opposition party, we are looking at the larger picture of the return of Atiku, we will give him all waivers required to ensure his readmission.
“Some of our leaders, who were initially opposed to the return of the ex-VP, had shown enough understanding in the past few months.”
Meanwhile, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, Alhaji Kehinde Olaosebikan yesterday said the exit of Atiku would not have any significant effect on the fortunes of the party in the 2019 general elections.
He said no serving governor, no presiding officer of the National Assembly or key national executive officer of the party was in sync with Atiku’s defection.
Olaosebikan who spoke with journalists in Abuja yesterday said in spite of the defection, President Muhammadu Buhari would win hands down and that the party would perform better in 2019.
He added: “Going through the resignation letter, I found out that the Turaki did not exercise enough fortitude. He allowed politics and ambition to take control of him. He should have stayed with his avowed position in 2013 that the All Progressives Congress was his last bus stop politically, and leave the rest in the hands of Allah.”
“What the President needs from us, particularly the big political players is love, understanding, support and prayers as already being exhibited by the National Executive of the party and our National Leader, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu who at different fora recently gave us hope and assurances of a better tomorrow.”
When asked of the declaration of Asiwaju Tinubu that the party would not give automatic ticket to President Buhari for a second term, Olaosebikan told journalists that the position of Tinubu was in the best interest of the President, APC and the country as a whole.
“Asiwaju, with the declaration of no automatic ticket was merely portraying the President as a genuine democrat who believes in due process. What Asiwaju Tinubu said was in support of strengthening our democracy and our political institution which we need to do with all seriousness.
“You would recall too, that he stated that all the organs of the party would support him through the processes. In a nutshell, he is in full support of his second term and you know with him, all the APC governors and the presiding officers in the National Assembly, the ticket is already in the pocket of the President.
“And when it comes to the general election, it is a platitude that you cannot compare the popularity and acceptability of President Muhammadu Buhari with that of any person in the country today. He will win in the North and in the South convincingly. Buhari is not loved for money or any material thing; he is passionately loved for his strong character and piousness

I don’t know who leaked fake wedding photos’ – Juliet Ibrahim
Anybody who follows Ghanaian actress, Juliet Ibrahim, on social media would know that she appears to be head-over-heels in love with Nigerian rapper, Iceberg Slim. Her Instagram page is full of pictures of both of them in several romantic gestures.
And they go almost everywhere together. During interviews, she has also gushed about Slim, making it clear that she had found love. Iceberg Slim also does the same. According to him, he was blown away by Ibrahim’s intelligence.
Days ago, it was reported online that the duo had secretly gotten married, and that a wedding ring was spotted on Ibrahim. Congratulatory messages poured in for the couple but they later went online to debunk the story.
They had said,
We will like to inform the general public that we are not married yet. When we decide to go down that path together, we will certainly be the ones to let the world, our friends, family, supporters and fans know. The image circulating isn’t a court wedding photograph.
It is a leaked behind-the-scenes image which was taken during a photo-shoot for a new project, which we will soon unveil to the world. God bless everyone for the love and well wishes. I love you all.”

In a chat with Sunday Scoop, Ibrahim maintained that she hadn’t gotten married to Iceberg.
She said, “I did not get married and like I explained, that picture was taken on the set of a project we’re working on. I don’t know who leaked it. If we want to do something like that; trust me, we wouldn’t hide it.”
On whether they do have plans to get married anytime soon, Juliet said,
“I really don’t want to say anything further about this. If I want to take any major decision, I will surely let my loved ones know about it.”

Ronaldo and I have no relationship, I doubt we will be friends’ – Messi
Lionel Messi doubts whether he and Cristiano Ronaldo will ever be friends.
The Barcelona and Real Madrid superstars are the greatest players of their generation, if not of all time.
But playing for Spain’s two biggest clubs means they have not formed a personal relationship.
And Messi does not think there is time for it now.
“I do not know if we will be [friends]m” he told Marca . “Friendship is something that is built through spending time together and getting to know each other.
“We have no relationship, but mostly because we only see each other in the awards ceremonies and it is the only time we speak. At that moment everything is fine, but then we do not cross paths again.”
Messi was speaking following the presentation of his European Golden Shoe award where he refused to discuss his future.

The Argentine playmaker, who won the award for the fourth time after scoring 37 league goals last season, has not yet signed the new deal the club say he has agreed, meaning he will be free to join another team next season.
Barcelona insist that his father, Jorge Messi, has signed three contracts which tie him to the club until 2021, but the situation is unclear because the player has not put pen to paper on any of them himself. (SUnUK)

My fall at AFRIMA inspired a single’ – Seyi Shay

My fall at AFRIMA inspired a single’ – Seyi Shay
Even though she didn’t win big like Wizkid and Tiwa Savage, Seyi Shay was the centre of attention at this year’s All Africa Music Awards after falling on stage while performing.
While speaking with Sunday Scoop, the singer said she was so bitter with everyone when she went backstage.
She said,
“At backstage, I was blaming everyone. I blamed my stylist, the designer, and my manager.  I even blamed the stage. But the truth is that what is meant to be will be. I think with every lesson, there is a blessing.
“I knew that when I got off the stage and opened my phone, there would be so much talk about my fall. Like I expected, by the time I got to my room, Instablog9ja already had 40,000 views.”
According to her, the AFRIMA’s experience was the first time she would be experiencing such an embarrassing moment.
“You know everybody has a first time. Wizkid, Davido and even Beyonce have suffered similar fate in the past. She fell from the stage. Rihanna and Jennifer Lopez have fallen on stage as well.
“So, when you think about all these stars and their experiences, you will realise that you are not different from them and you are not immune to mistakes as well. I see my fall as a very humbling moment of my life,” she added.
Immediately she left the Eko Hotel and Suites venue of AFRIMA, she went to the studio with her manager and Klem, the songwriter who wrote ‘Yolo Yolo’, to make a song.
She stated,

“The title of my new song is The Fall, and it has to do with the AFRIMA’s experience. I plan to drop the song next month. Sometimes, when misfortune happens, you have to look at the positive side and all the opportunities in it to turn the misfortune into fortune. That’s what we are doing right now.”
She wondered how she picked herself up after she fell, saying she was just conscious of the fact that it was a live show and she couldn’t let Nigerians down.
“I guess the fall just brought out the best in me. It made me realise that I wasn’t invincible. Since I knew that it was a live show, watched by everyone across the globe, I couldn’t embarrass my country. I had no choice but to get up and finish the show.
“It was the dress I wore that caused the fall, but most people didn’t know that. I stepped on it and the material dragged me down. I will be 100 per cent careful when considering my costume going forward,” she noted.

Ryan Giggs slammed by his father for sleeping with his brother’s ‘wife’ for 8 years
Ryan Giggs’ father Danny Wilson, 61, has accused the former footballer of ‘abandoning’ his brother Rhodri, 40, after having a secret eight-year affair with his sibling’s wife.
His affair with Rhodri’s ex-wife Natasha had emerged back in 2011, with the brunette bombshell then going on to star in Big Brother and revealing she enjoyed the ‘thrill’ of secretly having sex with Ryan.
Speaking out against the Manchester United star, Ryan’s father has claimed he has ‘no remorse’ over the fling and has ‘never said sorry’ to his brother for his wrongdoing.
Speaking to Daily Star, Danny revealed Rhodri was left devastated by the affair and still hasn’t moved on – six years after it was first uncovered.
He explained that Rhodri, now ‘penniless and homeless’, has moved away from Manchester to stay with family in Wales. Danny added that he can no longer bring himself to say son Ryan’s name, as he claimed: ‘If he would just apologise, Rhodri could move on.’
Ryan’s father claimed instead of apologising, the sports star instead told Rhodri his affair with Natasha was ‘only ever about sex’.
However, Danny’s comments come after it was reported Ryan had apologsied to Rhodri and phoned his brother ‘out of the blue’ in 2015, four years after news of his affair with Natasha came to light.
At the time, it was claimed the brothers were reconciling in an attempt to rebuild their relationship – with sources insisting Rhodri had put the betrayal behind him.
A source told The Sun: ‘Ryan rang Rhodri out of the blue a few weeks ago. Rhodri moved on a long time ago but was adamant Ryan had to make the first move as he was the one who had done wrong.’

The affair was first revealed in June 2011 when Rhodri’s wife Natasha admitted to secretly sleeping with the former star winger over an eight year period in an interview with a Sunday paper. She claimed she had aborted Ryan’s baby just weeks before she got married to Rhodri in Las Vegas.

Sexual harassment allegation, cheap blackmail from total stranger’ – Yomi Fabiyi

Sexual harassment allegation, cheap blackmail from total stranger’ – Yomi Fabiyi
Last month, the global entertainment industry was shaken by allegations of sexual harassment that were levelled against top shot Hollywood producer, Harvey Weinstein, by several women. The women claimed that Weinstein had, on different occasions over the years, forced them to have sex with him in exchange for movie roles and other favours.
The allegations triggered a chain reaction, and Weinstein was booted out of the company he founded and a lot of people dissociated themselves from him. Since that episode, many other entertainers have continued to call out several personalities that harassed them sexually.
It seems the trend has caught on in Nigeria, and recently, an up-and-coming actress, Eniola Omoshalewa Eunice, claimed that actor and producer, Yomi Fabiyi, had sometime ago, demanded sex from her before she could be featured in his production. Fabiyi denied the allegation and subsequently reported the matter to the police, offering to pay N20,000 to anyone with information on Eunice’s whereabouts.
However, the actress also tabled her case with the Lagos State Ministry of Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation. The ministry subsequently invited Fabiyi to its office but the actor refused to honour the invitation.
In a chat with Sunday Scoop, he gave his reasons for not honouring the invitation.
He stated,
“It is simple for anybody to know the direction that will go. I instituted a petition against her, which is before the Commissioner of Police, and because I made the move known, she ran to the ministry with an allegation of threat to her life, owing to the fact that I promised a N20,000 bounty for whoever could supply her address, as the only thing I know about her is her Instagram handle.
How would I describe her location to aid the police’s investigation? How will my lawyer serve her if I file a suit against her? I know clearly that the ministry will want to mediate and possibly make peace between us, and at the end of the day, my reputation would still be dented by such an allegation.

“I was also on set when the invitation came and I felt the mediation was too early. It is not because I am stubborn or don’t like peace, the only place I can have it on record that I don’t know her is at the police station. The ministry would want to be indifferent. And if she had gone to them before she went public, I would have gone to the office to clear my name; but not now that the matter is already before the police.
“I have no reason to run as I only asked for the meeting to be rescheduled. For the records, I was not invited based on her allegation of sexual harassment, but because I placed a bounty on her which purportedly puts her life at risk. I think she has been getting quack legal advice. I didn’t call, visit, text or contact her in anyway. I am too refined for such.”
Fabiyi added,
“I recently released a movie, Agbede Meji, and it has been trending with 150,000 views in one week. The reviews have also been overwhelming, and some people are of the opinion that I should take the movie to cinemas. However, some bad people just want to drop me off that ladder for nothing.
I am always working hard, and I believe that when it is the right time, my advancement will come. I’m still in shock because career wise, I should be attending to something more lucrative than this cheap blackmail from a total stranger.”

Morning Devotional For Sunday 26th Nov

Rhapsody of Realities Daily
SPIRITUAL INSTRUCTIONS
Sunday,November 26th.
Pastor Chris
The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction (Proverbs 1:7).
Oftentimes, the Word of God comes to us as spiritual instructions. Proverbs 4:13 says, “Take fast hold of instruction; let her not go: keep her; for she is thy life.”
When an instruction of the Spirit is given, not only is it important that those instructions be understood, they must also be acted upon. Any form of resistance or disobedience is what God refers to as “witchcraft.” The Bible says, “For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry…” (1 Samuel 15:23).
An example is King Saul. God instructed Saul to destroy the Amalekites and everything they had, including their animals, but he ignored the instruction. He didn’t destroy their sheep and oxen, because according to him, “…the people took of the spoil, sheep and oxen, the chief of the things which should have been utterly destroyed, to sacrifice unto the Lord thy God in Gilgal” (1 Samuel 15:21).
That wasn’t the instruction. The instruction was clear: destroy everything. God didn’t say, “Preserve the choice animals for a sacrifice unto me.” It’s important that you follow God’s Word and His instructions to the letter. Do things His way, and you’ll always be a success. Saul lost the kingship over Israel forever, by choosing his own way and harkening to the voice of the people against God’s specific instruction (Read entire account in 1 Samuel 15:1-23).
Be wise. Even when God’s instructions are contrary to your human reasoning, be like Peter: act on them. When the Lord Jesus asked Peter to cast his net into the sea after a fruitless fishing expedition (Luke 5), even though the instruction was contrary to Peter’s reasoning, he obeyed and got a miracle for it. God’s instructions may come to you in the most unexpected way, follow them, because therein lies your promotion.
PRAYER
Dear Father, thank you for the counsel I receive from your Word, and the divine instruction that comes to me daily by your Spirit. I’m a doer of your Word, not a hearer only; I take fast hold of instruction; my heart is attentive, and I act fast on your Word. Promotions, advancements, significant attainments are evident in my life, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.

may still go back to school’ – Odunlade Adekola

Actor, Odunlade Adekola, is one of the most popular faces in the Nigerian movie industry at the moment. Well loved by many, he has a cult following which cuts across all sections of society.

Odunlade is an alumnus of the Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, Abeokuta, but a few years ago, he returned to school.

He was a student at the University of Lagos where he studied Business Administration until a few weeks ago when he sat for his final exams. The elated actor shared photos of himself and other students as they jubilated after the final exams.

In a chat with Sunday Scoop, Adekola spoke about his experience while at the school.

It has been by the grace of God that I was able to conclude my education at the University of Lagos. Because of my profession, there were times that my schedule was so tight that I had to forgo one for the other.
But I always had it at the back of my mind that I must finish what I started. I also thank my fellow students and lecturers for their support throughout my stay in the school. I really had a nice time there,” he said.
Did he enjoy star treatment as a student? Odunlade said, “I am a very simple person, and everyone around me knows that. I just like to do my thing and mind my business. As a popular person, there were times that fans gushed over me while I was in school, but I always tried my best to manage the attention so that it wouldn’t distract me or other students.

“I always encouraged my colleagues to see me as one of them and I related with all of them well. The lecturers were also nice to me and I had a cordial relationship with them all.”

Stating the reason he chose to study Business Administration, Adekola said, “I have always had the dream of owning my company. I love to manage people to achieve set goals, and I believe that this course would help me in that regard.”

On what his next move is in academics, the actor added,

“Knowledge gathering is a continuous process; it never stops. One should never stop learning because you can never know it all. I may decide to return to school to study another course. I don’t know what the future holds. I am interested in constantly developing myself and that has been of great advantage to me.”

Suspected Boko Haram Militants Take Over Town In Nigeria

Suspected members of Islamist militant group, Boko Haram, took over a town in the restive state of Borno in northeast Nigeria on Saturday, residents said.

The attack comes days after a suicide bomber killed at least 50 people at a mosque in neighbouring Adamawa state in one of the deadliest attacks since President Muhammadu Buhari came to power in 2015 pledging to end the eight-year insurgency.

Residents said attackers entered Magumeri, around 50 km (30 miles) from Borno state capital Maiduguri, around 7:00 p.m. (1800 GMT). They said the insurgents shot sporadically and threw explosive devices, prompting locals to flee to a forest.

We hurriedly took our families to the bushes before they could get us. Almost every resident is hiding here,” said Wakil Bulama, one of two residents who spoke to Reuters by telephone.

British Aid Worker Was Shot Dead In Nigeria After Singing 'Amazing Grace'
[Image: British%2Baid%2Bworker%2Bwas%2Bshot%2Bde...e%2527.PNG]
British optician, Ian Squire, 57, who was kidnapped in Nigeria, shot dead after playing “Amazing Grace” on his acoustic guitar. According o his fellow hostages.

Christian charity workers David and Shirley Donovan, describe Squire's final moments to Telegraph UK. They were all abducted from their accommodation in Delta State in the early hours of October 13.

He told the Telegraph:
"It was the perfect song, and at that point things began to look not quite as bad. But then, after Ian finished playing, he stood up, and a salvo of gunshots killed him instantly.

We didn't see who did it, but it was obvious that someone in the gang had shot him. It was terrifying to see. We jumped out of the shack and into the water as we thought they were coming for us next, but a member of the gang came and put us back in there with Ian for the rest of the day."

They were freed after the kidnappers told them a ransom had been paid, and were met by two SUVs, with Mr Donovan saying the smell of the leather and the air conditioning "was like stepping from one world into another".

A federal capital territory ( FCT ) high court has ordered that Maryam Sanda be remanded in Suleja prison for allegedly murdering Bilyamin Bello, her husband.
The FCT police command arraigned her before Yusuf Halilu, a judge, on Friday.
Maryam, who wept profusely in the court, covered her face with a veil to prevent journalists from taking pictures.
The police had initially said it would be difficult to detain her because she has a six-month-old baby.
Sanda reportedly stabbed the victim to death based on the suspicion that he was cheating on her.
Mohammed was the son of Haliru Bello, a former national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
In the charge sheet seen by TheCable, Sanda was accused of committing an offence punishable by death.
She pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Hussein Musa, the defence counsel, askedthe court not to let his client be in custody because she is nursing a child.
After listening to Musa’s submission, the judge held that she should be detained. He, therefore, adjourned the matter till December 7.
Sanda is the daughter of Maimuna Aliyu , whose nomination into the board of the Independent Corrupt Practices and other offences Commission (ICPC) was withdrawn following allegations of corruption levelled against her.
She was accused of abusing her office as executive director of Aso Savings and Loans Limited.
Aliyu has been charged to court. https://www.thecable.ng/breaking-court-s...ife-prison

Considering that there have been indications of his imminent defection from the party, the development may not come as a surprise to many.
But the Waziri Adamawa, whose history of party loyalty is punctuated with series of defection, did not leave the APC without making some grievous allegations against the ruling party.
He said APC is a wrong place to actualise “the struggle for democracy and service to my country and my people”.
We bring you some of these accusations contained in the statement Abubakar issued while announcing his resignation from the APC.
‘DRACONIAN REGIME’
Atiku recalled that he joined the APC with the belief that he had “seen the beginnings of the rebirth of the new Nigeria of our dreams” but was later proved wrong as “events of the intervening years have shown that like any other human and like many other Nigerians, I was fallible”.
According to him, “while other parties have purged themselves of the arbitrariness and unconstitutionality that led to fractionalization, the All Progressives Congress has adopted those same practices and even gone beyond them to institute a regime of a draconian clampdown on all forms of democracy within the party and the government it produced.”
‘FAILED TO MEET EXPECTATIONS OF NIGERIANS’
The former vice-president also accused the ruling party of failing to meet the yearnings of many Nigerians.
He referred to the memo Nasir el-Rufai, governor of Kaduna state, wrote to President Muhammadu Buhari in which he said the expectations of the masses that voted APC into power had been left hanging.
Aligning his voice to that of el-Rufai, Atiku said: “Only last year, a governor produced by the party wrote a secret memorandum to the president which ended up being leaked. In that memo, he admitted that the All Progressives Congress had ‘not only failed to manage expectations of a populace that expected overnight ‘change’ but has failed to deliver even mundane matters of governance’.”
A ‘DYING PARTY’
One of Atiku’s biggest worries, according to the statement he issued, is that the APC is “not carrying the young ones along”.
While accusing the party of failing and “continues to fail our people, especially our young people”, Atiku wondered how there could be “a federal cabinet without even one single youth”.
“A party that does not take the youth into account is a dying party. The future belongs to young people,” he said.
FROSTY RELATIONSHIP WITH LEADERS
Another reason the former vice-president gave for his defection is the “total lack of consultations” on the side of President Muhammadu Buhari.
Still referring to el-Rufai’s letter, Atiku said: “Of the party itself, that same governor said ‘Mr. President, Sir Your relationship with the national leadership of the party, both the formal (NWC) and informal (Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, Atiku Abubakar, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso), and former Governors of ANPP, PDP (that joined us) and ACN, is perceived by most observers to be at best frosty. Many of them are aggrieved due to what they consider total absence of consultations with them on your part and those you have assigned such duties.’
“Since that memorandum was written up until today, nothing has been done to reverse the treatment meted out to those of us invited to join the All Progressives Congress on the strength of a promise that has proven to be false. If anything, those behaviours have actually worsened.” https://www.thecable.ng/draconian-regime...ed-the-apc

How To Make Good Yogurt At Home Without A Machine
The word yogurt comes from Turkey and refers to a tart, thick milk. The origin of yogurt is not singular to any culture, it has always been around cultures that kept animals for milk. Yogurt is a sourish food produced by bacterial fermentation of milk. The bacteria used to make yogurt are known as "yogurt cultures"  Homemade yogurt is great and very very easy for anyone, all you need is milk and a few spoonfuls of your favourite plain yogurt to use as starter culture. After the first, you don't need to buy plain yogurt to use as starter anymore as you can always preserve some of your own to use as starter for the next batch. Yogurt will always use Yogurt as a starter so I wonder how the very first ever yogurt was made, what was used as starter?

Here, I took step by step pictures of the making of this delicious yogurt with my phone, up to
when the chilled yogurt was being poured in a cup but surprisingly I want to upload to the blog and pics of the final stage are missing. The first pic is an Online one because I refuse to vex this evening, that I can't find pics of my kids drinking my first ever homemade yogurt.

Ingredients for Homemade Yogurt:

 1. 6 cups milk

 2. 10 tablespoons milk powder

 3. 6 table spoons plain store bought yogurt
You can use a yogurt machine if you have one.
Just three ingredients and my yogurt is ready.

The evaporated milk in a cup just before I added milk powder to form a paste.

Adding powdered milk to stir and form a thick paste

Home made Yogurt Procedure:
First I combined the 6 tablespoons of milk with the milk powder to form a thick paste. I then added the remaining milk while whisking to ensure there are no lumps. Next I emptied from the bowl into a pot and turned on the heat almost to boiling point. When it got close to boiling point, I realized some scum settling on the surface which I scooped when the pot was taken off the heat. The hot mixture is poured into the pot in the picture and left until it is lukewarm.

I blended 9 tablespoons of the lukewarm milk with the plain store bought yogurt and then slowly poured them back into the pot with the remaining lukewarm yogurt. I wrapped very well with cling film, you can use foil paper. I wrapped the pot in a thick blanket as shown on the pic below, left undisturbed for a whole day and when I checked, it wasn't as thick as I wanted so I just left it for over 24 hours and when I opened again, the result was amazing. The delicious yogurt was chilled for about 4 hours before serving and it was rushed. The kids kept asking for more until I promised to make some more before schools resume.

TIP:
Keep some of your yogurt in a sealed container in the fridge to use as starter for your next batch of yogurt. Though I added no fruits but sweetened a little for the kids who wanted sweet, you can add fruits and nuts to your yogurt before serving, fruits add beautiful colours and make your yogurt drink look really appetizing

Groundnut Soup and Pounded Yam

I have been craving Groundnut Soup for a very long time now and it is very funny because i have only had it once when i was very little over 18 years ago so i was surprise at how much i felt like just having it. I decided to put the crave to rest and made it for dinner today and i have been asking myself how come it is not a regular in my kitchen because it taste unbelievable GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOD!!! I licked all my fingers like it was my last meal...Found a new soup i love bet you would too...If you love Egusi, you would love it. It is made exactly same way you make Egusi, i bet you know there are several ways to make Egusi, you can either fry or not fry, i try avoiding frying so the process i will be sharing is exactly how i made mine tonight...Let me know when you make yours...Wink

Ingredients

 • fresh groundnut (peanut)
 • tomatoes (fresh)
 • meat (assorted)
 • onions - chopped
 • garlic (minced)
 • ginger (minced)
 • salt
 • seasoning
 • stock fish
 • prawns (optional)
 • periwinkle
 • cow skin (Kpomo) - clean very well and cut into cubes
 • bitter leaf - washed
 • pumpkin leaf (Ugu) - chopped
 • crayfish
 • curry
 • thyme
 • palm oil
Lets Cook:
1. Wash the meat very well, Put in a pot. Add onions, garlic, ginger, curry, thyme, salt, pepper and seasoning. Boil your meat according to toughness, i.e. boil the intestines (shaki, abodi, fuku,e.t.c) first, when it cooks for a while add the beef, allow cook for some time and then add the chicken or turkey.
2. Soak the stock fish in hot water and set aside. It will not only soften the fish but also help clean it and rid it of insects if there is any in it.
3. Check the meat. Add the Cow Skin (Kpomo), periwinkle. If the meat is cooked to your desired preference. Pour in palm oil. Pour in the prawns. Add the crayfish. Stir and cover.
4. Blend the fresh groundnut, fresh tomatoes and onions, add a little water and blend till smooth.
5. Check and make sure the palm oil is cooked (remember that this process can be done differently, you can heat the palm oil in a pan and pour the blended groundnut mixture in it, stir and when smooth pour into the meat) . Pour the groundnut mixture into the boiling meat on heat. Stir and cover. Allow to simmer for about 15 minutes. Constantly stir to avoid it burning.
6. Taste ad adjust seasoning if need be. Add the pumpkin leaf (Ugu) you can use any leaf you prefer, you can use just the bitter leaf or you can make the soup leafless.
7. Stir and turn off the heat when the oil starts settling on top it is ready.
8. By now your pounded yam, eba, fufu, semolina, e.t.c should be ready.
9. Serve and enjoy your delicious meal...Cheers

Suspicious that she was seeing another man, husband axed his wife 40 times before throwing her body away

A jealous husband has been found guilty of murdering his wife with an axe and dumping her body in a Lidl car park after suspecting she was having an affair.
Norbert Chikerema struck Nyasha Kahari, known as Gillian, more than 40 times and was today convicted of her death by a jury at Birmingham Crown Court.
The judge told Chikerema, a care home worker: “You have clearly been convicted of a very serious offence of which the sentence is life imprisonment.” During the trial, the court heard Chikerema, from Birmingham, and his wife ran a nursing home. The 42-year-old suspected the mum-of-four was seeing another man and had hired a private detective to follow her.
After killing the 35-year-old, he drove to a Lidl car park in Marston Green near Solihull, West Midlands, and was found in the parked vehicle beside his wife’s body.
Police officers discovered the victim with her seat belt still on. Prosecutor said the couple left their home in their Nissan car at around 7.30pm on January 29 to visit three addresses. The court was told the attack took place at around 11pm as they were due to return home.
Kevin Hegarty, QC, prosecuting, said: “When he attacked her, she was sitting in the front passenger seat of their Nissan car. He used an axe to strike his wife over and over again.
“The blows were aimed principally at her neck and her head. She died in the car with her seat belt on. She could not get away. She was strapped in the car and she was effectively defenceless.”
The jury was told the defendant tilted the passenger seat down and covered the body with a blanket before returning home to change his blood-stained clothes. He then used the axe to attack two cars of men he believed to be in relationships with his wife. Mr. Hegarty said Chikerema then drove the body to the car park at around 4am.
West Midlands Police Detective Inspector Paul Joyce, from Force CID, said: “Chikerema’s actions mean four children now have to live without their mother; a family has been tragically ripped apart and he will have to live with the consequences of his brutal attack forever.
“He suggested he was not of sound mind at the time of the killing and pleaded not guilty on the grounds of diminished responsibility.
“However, we demonstrated a degree of advanced planning − notably taking the axe out in the car that night − and the jury quickly found him guilty.”A tribute released on behalf of Ms Kahari’s family read: “Gillian was a decent, loving mother of four children, two boys and two girls. She was a caring and hardworking woman who always worked to keep her family happy. Gillian will be missed by her family and all those who knew her.”

You are A Bit Of A Nut-Job - Anthony Joshua Slams Tyson Fury
[Image: ser.jpg]
Boxing champion, Anthony Joshua, is again coming at former heavyweight world champion, Tyson Fury whom he has tagged “a nut job” adding that he has “a screw loose”.

Both men have continued to slam eachother ahead of a potential blockbuster British
scrap in 2018.

Anthony said;
“Fury is tall and I think he’s a bit of a nut-job to be honest with you. I think he’s just got a bit of a screw loose.

“Any man with a screw loose even if it is just in business, they just have a little something that you can’t put your finger on. So with Fury it would be tricky to figure him out.

“Fury would be a real breakdown job, a real gruesome type fight. Kind of like that Klitschko fight – I’ll go to hellfire and back to get the win.”

Detained Saudi Princes Reportedly Tortured By American
[Image: IMG_5540-e1509850835156.jpg]
Detained Saudi princes and billionaires are being strung up by their feet and beaten by American private security contractors. According to reports.
About 201 people are being detained at the Ritz-Carlton in Riyadh on the orders of the Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman’s anti corruption committee.

The group of detainees reportedly includes military officials and government ministers as well as 11 princes — among them Prince Alwaleed bin Talal whose $US10 billion fortune makes him the 10th richest man on the planet.

Construction tycoon Bakr Bin Laden, billionaire Saleh Kamal and Waleed al-Ibrahim, owner of the influential Arab satellite network MBC, are also believed to be in detention at the hotel.

A source reportedly told the Daily Mail that the group has since been subjected to “interrogations” carried out by “American mercenaries” brought in to work for the Crown Prince, 32, who is now the kingdom’s most powerful figure.

They are beating them, torturing them, slapping them, insulting them. They want to break them down,” the source told the site.

The Daily Mail alleged ‘Blackwater’ was the security firm involved. But the organisation’s successor, Academi, strongly denied even being in Saudi Arabia and said it does not engage in torture, which is illegal for US citizens to commit anywhere in the world.

We do not provide security services in KSA (Kingdom of Saudi Arabia), we have no contact or connection with any government official or private party regarding this allegation,” the company said.

Investigators said at least $100 billion has been uncovered in the corruption probe. The detainees include Cabinet ministers, members of the royal family and the owners of three TV networks that are among the largest in the Middle East.

The crackdown that began on November 4, initially targeted 11 princes, 38 officials, military officers as well as business leaders. An estimated 1700 individual bank accounts have been frozen.

Anyim Pius Under Inhumane Conditions In EFCC Custody - Mike Ozekhome
User Avatar Forum: Politics
Posted by: Edoman - 11-25-2017, 05:02 PM - No Replies

Human rights lawyer, Mike Ozekhome has cried out over the treatment being meted out to the former secretary general of the Federation, Anyim Pius Anyim by the Economic and financial crimes commission(EFCC).

Anyim has been in detention for weeks now and is allegedly being kept in Inhumane and degrading conditions by officials of the anti-graft commission.

In a petition filed by Ozekhome, who is also Anyim's lawyer, he debunked the misleading reports by various media houses that the Ex-government official had been released by the commission on bail last Wednesday.

"This is a lie from the pit of hell. These false reports, which credit their source to “unnamed sources within the EFCC”, have continued to circulate throughout Thursday and Friday, with the intent to deceive the world and divert its attention from the gross abuse of the fundamental rights of Anyim, who has been kept under inhuman and degrading conditions for this unconstitutionally lengthy period".

According to the lawyer, Anyim is still being held by the EFCC even after submitting his passport and fulfilling all bail conditions. He alleged that they forced forme his client to sign all sorts of self-incriminating and property stripping documents against his will.

In spite of these and the clear provisions of sections 35 and 36 of the Nigerian Constitution and the Administration of Criminal Justice Act (ACJA), the EFCC has bluntly refused to release Anyim to go and attend to his very poor health over which he was receiving treatment before he was forcibly taken away from home.

This is calling upon the Attorney General and Minister of Justice to prevail on the EFCC (and all law enforcement agencies), to respect the rule of law and the constitution they have sworn to protect and defend by promptly ordering Anyim’s release forthwith."

I’ve Been Living With Diabetes For Over 30 Years – Obasanjo
[Image: Obasanjo.jpg]
Former President Olusegun Obasanjo on Friday morning led hundreds of people on road walk   for diabetes awareness in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, declaring that he still walk with agility at 80, despite being diabetic.
Obasanjo revealed that he was diagnosed of diabetes over 30 years ago but said the condition has not affected his daily functions because of efficient management of it, exercise and strict adherence to prescribed drugs for Diabetes.
According to him, diabetes does not kill if well managed, but only bares its fangs and kills those who do not give a damn about it.He said
Diabetes is not a disease that should kill, I was diagnosed to be diabetic more than 30 years ago but rather, I am growing strong, if you don’t believe I am growing strong and you didn’t witness this walk, come and see me at night, you will know I am growing strong, come and see me in the morning, you will know I am growing, even in the afternoon, you will know I am growing strong.
“What is necessary is a management of diabetes. Some people said some diseases are incurable, but diabetes is manageable and compliant.
“My headmaster in primary school was diagnosed at the age of 50 and died at age 85, you will agree with he tried.
“What to do is that if you’re diabetic don’t be nonchalant about it and don’t eat carelessly. Three things are important, the food you eat, regular exercise and prescribed medication, those are the three most important things.
"You can be diabetic and still lives till 100, I don’t know when I would die but I am above 80 and many of the youth could not catch up with my pace during  the exercise this morning, many of them were running to keep pace me.
“This is my message. Whether you’re diabetic or you have a family or friend with diabetic, diabetes is not a killer disease or it should not be a killer disease unless you are careless,” Obasanjo said.

Why I Will Never Leave APGA For APC - Obiano
User Avatar Forum: Politics
Posted by: Edoman - 11-25-2017, 04:55 PM - No Replies

Freshly re-elected governor of Anambra state, Willie Obiano has openly stated that he has no plans of leaving the All Progressives Grand Alliance(APGA) for any other party despite widespread speculations that he intends to decamp to the Ruling All Progressives Congress(APC).

Obiano while speaking to Statehouse correspondents on Thursday at the Presidential Villa, shortly after a 'Thank-you' visit to President Muhammadu Buhari, dismissed all the rumours. In his words;

"No. Never. That is totally unfounded. I will never leaver APGA, I’m the leader and the BoT chairman of APGA and again by God’s grace the governor and governor-elect," he said.

The governor also used the opportunity to hand out an Olive branch to his opponents in the state, adding that they should all work together to build the future of Anambra.

"To win 21 over 21 is not an easy task, it just showed the faith the people had in me and that is exactly why it happened and I thank Ndi Anambra for the confidence reposed in me and I reassure them that this will encourage me to work harder.”

My party is very strong in the South-east and you will see very soon in the coming elections and from there we will match on."

Honeymoon to doom: Couples maim, send partners to early graves
Over the last few days, the Nigerian airspace has been replete with all sorts of news. While some have been soul-lifting, a handful others have been demoralising, leaving many confused as to where the society was headed. Even though cases of spouses and even lovers having strained relationship and quarrelling in the process are not totally strange, killing each other in the midst of such tempestuous moments appears to have become almost a tradition these days.
For example, last Saturday evening, news of a nursing mother stabbing her husband to death in their Wuse, Abuja, home rent the airwaves, sending shocks down the spines of many across the country.
The young mother identified as Maryam Sanda, stabbed her spouse – Bilyamin Bello – son of a former Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Haliru Bello, in the neck and chest while he slept in the bedroom following suspicions of infidelity. Though immediately rushed to a nearby hospital by the woman, the young man died shortly afterwards due to the grievous bodily harm inflicted on him.
According to close friends of the victim, the two-year-old marriage had been fraught with problems as a result of Sanda’s violent tendencies and hot temperament.
“Maryam had attacked Bilyamin before the latest incident, which unfortunately led to his death. The two got married about two years ago when the victim’s father persuaded him to marry her. Everyone was shocked by Bilyamin’s death; it was sudden, unexpected and tragic,” one of his friends said.
Describing the act as intentional, the police in Abuja, which already filed murder charges against the suspect at the Federal Capital Territory High Court and obtained a two-week remand warrant to keep her, are seeking the death penalty. They want maximum punishment for the crime.
While news of the gruesome murder of Bilyamin,a real estate developer, by his wife was yet to fully die down, the airwaves was again rocked by another similar occurrence on Wednesday, November 22, when a woman stabbed her husband multiple times with broken bottle in Zamfara State. The incident, which happened in Gusau, the capital city, did not only send residents around the neighbourhood into panic, but shed more light on rising cases of spousal abuse in the country.
Though findings by Saturday PUNCH reveal that the victim is still alive, he is said to be in a critical situation following the gravity of the attack and the terrible state it left him.
The man is still alive but he is in a very bad state because his wife stabbed him several times and in different places. They had an argument and the next thing, she broke a bottle and charged at her husband with the aim of finishing him up.
“We are all still in shock because nobody expected such,” a resident around the area of the incident, Alim, said.
While the victim in Zamfara is lucky to remain alive after being served a ‘deadly blow’ by his wife, Mr. Raymond Ihugba, a resident of Owerri in Imo State was not as fortunate. His wife, Augustina, bathed him with acid after accusing him of adultery. The woman had traced the 50-year-old to a construction site where he was working before emptying the deadly liquid on him. She immediately fled the scene, leaving him to his fate. Despite being rushed to the Federal Medical Centre, Owerri, Ihugba died shortly afterwards. The incident, which happened on October 10, 2017, continues to leave residents of the community in shock.
“Ray did his best to take care of his family with the little resources he had but rather than rally round him and remain steadfast in prayers, his wife always made life difficult for him. Now that she has killed him, I hope that she will be satisfied,” mother of the victim, Eunice Ihugba, said painfully after his death.
In September, the gruesome murder of a 33-year-old woman known as Onyinye Eze by her husband, Stephen Akpata, in Bayelsa State, added a troubling twist to this rising phenomenon. Akpata, said to have lived in Australia for several years before moving back to Nigeria, strangled Eze with the cable of an electric iron before also stabbing her with a kitchen knife.
He thereafter locked her body up in their apartment before going into hiding. He was however, arrested by the police two weeks later in Badagry, Lagos.
When our operatives went into the apartment of the deceased, we meticulously searched the environment and saw a three-quarter knicker that was well hidden, tucked somewhere in the room that one would not suspect that something was hidden there,” Commissioner of Police in Bayelsa, Asuquo Amba, said.
“We discovered there was a blood stain on the knicker. By this time, we tried to find out who was with the lady because we knew that they had just contracted a registry marriage.
“We got in touch with Akpata who is the purported husband. He gave us the impression that he was out of town, implying that he travelled before the incident.
“So, we were still communicating with him, at least to break the news to him that his purported wife was dead. He told us he was on his way back and this took us some days.
“As we were communicating with him, he was giving us the impression that he was coming back, not knowing that he was plotting his own escape.
“We found out that prior to the time of her murder, the suspect had spent so much money on her and they were moving from one hotel to another. Still, we were playing along to enable him to come to us. But since he said he was in Lagos, we suspected that Ghana or Republic of Benin would be a likely point of escape.

“We got in touch with the embassies there and the Ghanaian Embassy was on the alert. From our radar, we found out that he slept in Ghana.
“He escaped back to Badagry in Lagos. He did not know we were still following him up. We got in touch with the police in Badagry. Eventually he was arrested at the Badagry border. That was how we brought him back,”Amba added.
About one month before that time, an auxiliary nurse in the Oto-Awori area of Lagos, Mrs. Folashade Idoko, stabbed her husband, Lawrence, to death, after accusing him of cheating on her with another woman. According to neighbours, the wife had constantly subjected the 32-year-old man to domestic abuse since they married even though the victim showed restraint hoping that she would turn a new leaf.

“He returned from a one-week official assignment one evening and his wife accused him of having extramarital affair before stabbing him in the leg with a sharp knife. It was his three-year-old son’s cries that alerted neighbours, by which time he had bled profusely.
“He died about an hour after he was rushed to the nearby New Ayetoro Medical Centre,” the victim’s neighbour said.
Revealing that they had no idea their relation was in an abusive marriage, aunt to the deceased, Betty Abbah, said that they could have known how to help him had he opened up to them on the real situation.
“My nephew, like many men and women who die daily in violent relationships, would have been alive had they fled such deadly arrangements in the name of marriage.
“We, the family, will ensure that justice is done. This is another young and promising life deliberately cut short and this wickedness will not go unpunished.
“We would have intervened one way or the other but he hid the entire violent scenario from us. Persons suffering domestic violence should always call out for help. It is indeed a big tragedy for us,” she said.
That same month, a pregnant woman – Chinyere Akaleme, was killed by her husband, Obinna, on the day she was to be delivered of the baby. Announcing the incident in a post on popular social networking platform – Facebook, a Benue-based human rights activist, Ukan Kurugh, said the woman had been a victim of domestic abuse since she married the man in 2012.
“Unfortunately for Chinyere, she did not live to tell her own story. She was cut down in her prime by the man she loved till death. She died on the day she was to give birth after series of miscarriages.
“In 2012, she met and married Obinna, a farmer/chef/kitchen assistant and thus began her journey to an untimely death in the hands of the man she loved so much and catered for,” the post read in parts.
The incident came after another disturbing spousal killing when in July a 39-year-old mother-of-three, Omotayo Salawudeen, confessed to murdering her husband, Hakeem, while being paraded by the police in Oshogbo, Osun State. The woman, who contracted the services of a 24-year-old ex-convict, Oladapo Dolapo, for backup, said that she snuffed life out of the victim after he got her angry.
“We were married for 17 years and were blessed with three children. My husband didn’t offend me, I was just mad at him. I choked him with pillow after we had sex while I got Dolapo to stab him to death with a knife,” the woman said.
Disturbing as these killings appear, they are only a fraction of spousal murders that have occurred in many parts of Nigeria in recent times. While some observers blame these gruesome attacks on the pressure created by the country’s poor economy on families, others finger the loss of morals and societal values as part of the major causes fueling this sad trend.
According to Sociologist, Biobele George, the failure of couples to carefully interrogate the person of their partners before going into marriage and also learn to exhibit tolerance and genuine respect for each other was part of factors contributing to such deaths as witnessed today.
“Today’s youths want and love to do things in a hurry. They fail to sometimes take their time to study a person and or situation before jumping into marriage. They meet somebody today and by tomorrow, they are man and wife. This should not necessarily be so.
“Marriage, being one of the sacred institutions ordained by God, requires a lot of sacrifice and perseverance. Many of today’s young people do not have such and that is why some of these things are happening.
“The problem also reflects how low we have gone as a society. If for example the large majority of the society still has regards for our morals and values, many of these things won’t be happening.

“For me, it is not a question of frustration due to economic factors, I think if a man and woman understand each other very well and are always willing to make sacrifices, they will experience peace and surmount any challenge that comes their way,” he said. (Punch)

Shehu Sani Reacts To Atiku's Resignation, Warns Buhari "Beware Of The Cabal"
User Avatar Forum: Politics
Posted by: Edoman - 11-25-2017, 04:41 PM - No Replies

Comrade Shehu Sani, a senator representing Kaduna central has reacted to the departure of Ex-VP, Atiku Abubakar from the ruling All Progressives Congress(APC).
Sani, while speaking in an annual lecture organized by Rave FM in Osogbo, Osun state, warned president Muhammadu Buhari to be careful of the 'Cabal'.
He added that the president should choose between those who 'love him' and those who love 'the throne'. He also attacked governors that have endorsed Buhari for second terms, saying that they did that based on 'Selfish interests'. In his words;
"The ruling party should know that what destroyed the PDP was a force from inside and not from outside. It was like a case of Yugoslavia in the old Soviet Union. Lack of internal democracy and imposition destroyed the PDP.
The umbrella of the PDP was torn by the internal injustice. The ruling party should be careful. Many people who helped in bringing this administration on board are not being carried along.
Now, Atiku has left the APC for the PDP. Those that contributed to this government before getting to power were not accorded courtesy.”
It is left for Buhari to decide who loves him and who loves the throne."

El-Rufai Dismisses Atiku's Defection: "No Northern Politician Can Defeat Buhari"
User Avatar Forum: Politics
Posted by: Edoman - 11-25-2017, 04:38 PM - No Replies

The Governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai, on Friday reacted to the exit of former vice president Atiku Abubakar from Nigeria’s ruling party, APC.
Mr. El-Rufai, a leader of the APC, spoke after the Friday Jumat prayer at the mosque in the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
Mr. Abubakar on Friday announced that he was leaving the APC. He did not say the party he was going to join, although he is expected to run for president on the platform of the opposition PDP.
The former vice president and Mr. El-Rufai have in the past had a public spat over issues of corruption and loyalty.
While answering reporter’s questions on Friday, Mr. El-Rufai said Mr. Abubakar was not driven out of the APC.
Read the full details of questions asked Mr. El-Rufai and his answers below.
Q: How do you feel that Atiku has left the party that you are in together?
El-Rufai: Well, I won’t even say we were in the APC together. Some of us formed the APC, some of them joined because they thought that the APC was a platform for which they will contest election but when they didn’t get the opportunity they started looking around.
I have heard about what the former Vice President said about leaving the APC. We knew he was going to leave in December but he has left in November which is good because the earlier he leaves for where he belongs, the better. He has changed political parties a few times, there is nothing surprising. Before the 2019 elections if situation changes and he thinks he can get the ticket in 2019 he will come back. That is what he has done a few times.
Q: Some are saying you people have driven him out of the party?
El-Rufai: No one has driven him out of the party, the APC is an equal opportunity platform for everyone. He has in his statement of leaving the party made reference to the memo I wrote to Mr. President in September 2016, where I was calling on the President to reach out to party leaders that feel aggrieved and I mentioned him, the Asiwaju and many others. The others are still in the APC because they believe in the direction of the party, they believe we have come to save the country from a very bad situation. But the former Vice President is always looking for an opportunity to contest. He is a serial contestant and we wish him luck.
Q: Some Nigerians are saying that some members of your party loyal to him might go with him. How do you react?
El-Rufai: I don’t know about the loyalists in the APC that will go with him but I want to assure you that there is no one governor in the APC that is going to go with former Vice President Atiku Abubakar. The only governor that he would think will go with him, the governor of Adamawa State has already endorsed President Buhari for the 2019 elections. And there are many governors I will not mention the number but a majority of the APC governors have already taken the position that the president should run for a second term in office. And we are grateful to the Almighty God that the question marks about his health have been put to rest, he is getting better every day and we are confident that the way to preserve our party and preserve and advance the interest of Nigeria is for Mr. President to run for a second term. I’m curious to see which APC governor will go with Atiku. As for party loyalists it depends on what you defend as loyalists. We will wait and see how that evolves.
Atiku Abubakar
But as a governor I want to assure you that not one governor is going to leave the party to go with the former Vice President. That I am sure of. I can speak authoritatively about it because I’m in touch with my colleagues.
Q: Don’t you see him as a threat in the event the PDP gives him the ticket and he runs against the President?
El-Rufai: He has never been and will never be a threat to President Buhari. Let me say this very clearly, and I have said this to the former Vice President in 2014 Dubai when we met. Because before joining the APC, he sent for me. He told me of his intentions and I welcomed it because politics is a game of addition not subtraction. So the more you have the merrier.
However, I told him not to run for the presidency because I believe very strongly this is Buhari’s era. As long as President Muhammadu Buhari is in politics I do not see any Nigerian from the northern part of the country that will be able to match him in popularity. The people of the 19 northern states and Nigeria have decided because of the president’s past history of Integrity and good governance they are committed to him. Anyone standing up to challenge him is wasting his time. God has decreed that this is Buhari’s time and we are waiting for the PDP to give Atiku Abubakar the ticket and we will face him on the field. But I have no doubt that I will not lose any sleep about it.

Actresses fear coming to my hotel room at locations’ – Antar Laniyan
Anyone who has had the opportunity of watching the ace actor, Antar Laniyan, work behind the scene would know that he can be likened to a soldier whenever he is working.
In fact, it is a general knowledge among actors that he is not one to mess with while shooting.
In an exclusive chat with Saturday Beats, the actor stated that his sternness on movie location is for a reason. He said,
“If you are disciplined and you don’t put romance with women first as an actor, you would go far. If you believe that as an actor, you don’t need women all around you, then you would remain relevant because you would concentrate on your craft.
I directed ‘SuperStory’ for about 10 years but no woman entered my room in the camp. You can ask Wale Adenuga himself. There were amorous advances from women but I shunned them. I am feared while on set. As a lady, you cannot see me and have the courage to approach me with your amorous advances.
People would even tell you not to try it with me; they would advise the ladies not to wink at me because I would just slap them. It is not that I am wicked but I want my cast and crew members to do what is expected of them. You don’t have to give me anything to gain what you do not deserve. Use your talent and let me acknowledge that you are good at your work. You don’t have to bribe me with your body.
“When I am working, I let discipline guide me. I don’t care if you are befriending the producer; but as a director, I want a disciplined actor in front of me. I do not go to the location to wine and dine; instead I go to work. When it comes to working, I am like a man that goes to the war front with the mindset of winning the war. If I don’t face my work squarely, it is the same people that are commending me that would condemn me and I don’t want that. I want to be an evergreen actor.
Look at the likes of Oga Bello and Prince Jide Kosoko, they started in 1964 and they are still relevant today. At the time they started, I was just a year old.”
Although he might be seen as someone to be feared on set, the actor confided in Saturday Beats that he is the exact opposite at home. He said his wife is his harshest critic when he does not play a romantic role convincingly.
My wife knows who I am to the extent that if I do not romance a woman properly in a play, she would ask me why I did not kiss her well. I have always had her support and that has given me the guts to go to any length in a romantic scene.
He told Saturday Beats that he and his sons are best of friends.
If I give you any of my son’s phone number, he would tell you that I am his best friend in the house. I have two boys but when I get home, we all play like three boys in the house. My sons see me more as a friend; in fact, when they were still toddlers, I used to call them best friends.
I have never flogged my children. I am fortunate to have good children who listen to us. Their mother is the tough one; she is the one with the iron hand,” Laniyan said.

Stakeholders proffer solutions to economic challenges
User Avatar Forum: Politics
Posted by: Edoman - 11-25-2017, 04:26 PM - No Replies

THE stakeholders in Apapa have resolved to end the issue of traffic bottleneck which is currently crippling the economic activities in the community.
Rising from a two-day summit at Rock View Hotel, the stakeholders resolved that:
Aside tank farm.operators having holding bays for the trucks that use their facilities, electronic call up system should be introduced.
The stakeholders also proposed that “regulators should enforce compliance with Environmental Impact Assessment ( EIA) standards by companies to mitigate negative impact on community.
“Companies operating in Apapa must ensure that Corporate Social Responsibility forms part of their budgetary considerations annually.
“Government and the private sector must collaborate to provide employment and capacity building for youths in Apapa:
“Government must devise ways of improving power generation in Apapa by collaborating with companies who have Independent Power Plants and generate excess power that can be utilized by the community.
“Port operators and concessionaires must ensure adequate traffic management mechanism and coordinated access control programs that will create operational efficiency at the ports.
“No further approvals for tank farms construction must be given by DPR for tanks farm development in Apapa.
“Road construction currently ongoing must be intensified to ease difficulties currently being experienced by residents in Apapa and commuters generally.
The summit was organized by the Apapa Local Government in collaboration with the Apapa Development Initiative.
While delivering his opening speech at the summit, the Executive Chairman of Apapa Local Government, Hon. Owolabi Elijah Adele, said that the summit was a significant milestone because it would create a platform to brain storming and cross fertilize ideas and opportunities for self and community development.
He stated that Apapa, which is regarded as the gateway to the nation’s economy, “is currently in a state of despondency as a result of scourge of hellish traffic situation, affecting every sphere of life in the government.”
He said with the summit bringing the major players, experts and professionals to brainstorm on the common problem confronting them will not only unravel the mysteries surrounding the traffic problem, it would also examine how economic life can return to Apapa and how our people can optimize the economic potential of having the two large ports in Africa in our domain through concrete workable and implementable solutions.
The first Lady of Lagos State, Mrs Bolanle Ambode, introduced a new dimension as she emphasized the importance of women in economic development.
While giving her keynote address, tagged: ‘Women and development,’ Ambode noted that economic development of any society comes faster with the involvement of women.
She stated that women dominated the informal sector of most economies and that in addition to domestic responsibilities at homes, women were involved in petty trading that would generate income.
The First Lady submitted that many Nigerian women are now heading the management teams of banks, major manufacturing companies and other blue chip firms with branches beyond the shores of Nigeria and Africa. She also said many influential Nigerian women politicians and appointees in positions of authority daily contribute to major economic decisions at the highest level determining official policy directions.
The Executive Secretary/CEO Apapa Development Initiative, Mr Mike Egbayelo, said that this summit was a thoughtful constellation of ideas across different sectors on how to positively impact on the generation of revenue and overall development of Apapa Local Government.
According to her, Apapa would be an indispensable hub of economic haven.
At the summit, the following topics were deliberated upon for the way forward: Effective traffic management model for Apapa-CIS perspective; Efficient traffic management and truck transit park; The regulators perspective;Automated traffic management and call-up system.

Buhari charges religious movements to fight corruption

President Muhammadu Buhari has urged religious movements to assist African countries rid themselves of the scourge of corruption.
Speaking at the State House yesterday while receiving the Grand Khalifa of Tijjaniyya Islamic Movement Worldwide, Sheikh Muhammadul-Kabir, the President enjoined the movements to work for “the cementing of our continental relationships and peaceful coexistence.”
The President, in a statement by the Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, commended the movement’s commitment to spiritual cleansing.
“While the evil of material corruption seeks to undermine the dignity and worldly existence of man, moral and spiritual corruption seek to destroy man and condemn him to perpetual punishment by his Creator,” he said.
President Buhari lauded the peaceful conduct of the Tijjaniyyah Islamic Movement in Nigeria.
“The Tijjaniyyah adherents are peaceful and never found to be in breach of peace nor associated with extreme religious views or terrorism,” he said, noting in particular, “the peaceful way you have conducted all your celebrations without disturbance to the public. This is commendable.”
The President, while expressing appreciation for the prayers from congregations such as the Tijjaniyyah, appealed to all religious groups to continue to preach peace particularly among the youth.
Sheikh Muhammadul-Kabir and other clerics accompanying him from several African countries commended President Buhari for nurturing peaceful coexistence among all religious adherents in the country.
He said they had come to Nigeria to observe their Maulud celebration of the birthday of the Holy Prophet Muhammad which took place peacefully in Bauchi.

PDP accuses APC of plot to sabotage its convention
User Avatar Forum: Politics
Posted by: Edoman - 11-25-2017, 04:22 PM - No Replies

The leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has accused the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) of plotting to sabotage its December 9 national convention.
Citing “intelligence reports”, the PDP said the ruling party has perfected plans to sponsor a parallel convention, using some unscrupulous members of the PDP to hold a parallel convention.
Addressing newsmen in Abuja yesterday, the National Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Prince Dayo Adeyeye, said the aim of the APC was to factionalise and destroy the opposition ahead of the 2019 elections.
Adeyeye appealed to PDP members across the federation to resist such temptation, saying the party was doing everything to address grievances among its aspirants to the various executive positions ahead of the December 9 convention.
He said: “We are not completely oblivious of the plans by the APC to sabotage our convention.
“Apart from the internal fighting within the APC, one of the reasons why the party postponed its national convention till next year was to enable it closely monitor our convention with a view to destabilising our party ahead of the 2019 general elections.
“The National Caretaker Committee has uncovered plans by some unscrupulous members of our party to hold a parallel national convention on December 9, 2017.
“This is totally uncalled for and a complete act of sabotage. Those making such plans cannot be said to be honest members of our party, the PDP. They are not patriotic but just out to destroy our party.
“The planned parallel convention is one of those ideas of the APC to create divisions amongst members of our party.
“It will be most unfortunate for members of our party to allow themselves to be used against the party, especially in the light of our recent painful experience.
“These are all part of the agenda of the APC to create an atmosphere of fear and insecurity around PDP members before and after the national convention.
“It is also part of the overall strategy of the ruling party to turn Nigeria into a one party state.
“The National Caretaker Committee has been working very hard to carry all party members and supporters of the party along in all the preparations for the forthcoming national convention holding on December 9 – 10, 2017.”
According to him, the plot by the APC was to capitalise on disagreements among the chairmanship aspirants of the PDP, assuring that the leadership of the party would address the aspirants’ grievances in an open and transparent manner before the convention.
Adeyeye said: “We are putting our resources in place to address all the fears earlier reported by some national chairmanship aspirants.
“One of the steps being taken by the leadership is to make available and in good time, the comprehensive names of all the delegates for the national convention to all the aspirants before the convention.
“We therefore see no reason for any honest member of this great party to want to disrupt our programmes, except they are of course working for the ruling party, the APC.”
The party appealed to aggrieved aspirants and members to take advantage of available internal conflict resolution channels to ventilate their opinions, concerns and grievances.
It vowed to resist any move by anyone to sabotage the convention, saying however that there was very little the party could do to dissuade members that may have decided to become paid agents of the APC.
The party spokesman cited the arrest and detention of some key PDP stakeholders on what he described as trump up charges of corruption, saying that the ruling APC had already targeted no fewer than 50 of its prominent members for arrest and incarceration.
Adeyeye said: “The APC propagandists said we were crying wolf. Now we are being vindicated by the continuing and unrelenting arrest, intimidation and harassment of our top leaders.
“In the last one week, the former governor of Taraba State, Mr. Abubakar Danladi, and the former Senate President and Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator Anyim Pius Anyim, two prominent members of our party, were arrested by the anti-graft agency, the EFCC.
“This is apart from the five that were earlier arrested within the month of November. We don’t know who will be next in the list.”
The PDP called on Nigerians and the international community to be vigilant and to ensure that the APC did not entrench full blown dictatorship in the country.
“The only reason why the APC is hell bent on killing the opposition in Nigeria is due to its non-performance and inability to deliver on its campaign promises.
“They have failed Nigerians and they know too well that they can no longer convince Nigerians to vote for them again in 2019.
“We want to assure members of our party nationwide that the leadership of the party, led by Senator Ahmed Makarfi, will provide an enabling environment and a level playing field for all those contesting for one position or the other before and after the national convention.
“We pledged to ensure a transparent, free and fair election, and by the grace of God, we are going to conduct the most democratic election in the history of any political party in Nigeria,” the party spokesman said.
Reacting to PDP’s allegation yesterday, the National Publicity Secretary of APC, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi dismissed it as baseless, adding that it was a clear indication that the party has lost direction and control of its members.
Abdullahi said: “What does that mean? I don’t understand. That we are going to organise a parallel convention for them or what? I mean, if those people they are alleging are actually their members, shouldn’t they be ashamed to say we are sponsoring them? Does it make sense at all?
“Those people are confused. How can you come out and say that your opponent is sponsoring your members?
“It is like saying that my neigbour is using my children against me or that somebody is inciting my wife against me.”

PDP Convention: Babatope calls for Makarfi-led NCC’s resignation
User Avatar Forum: Politics
Posted by: Edoman - 11-25-2017, 04:14 PM - No Replies

By Dapo Akinrefon
FORMER Minister of Transport, Chief Ebenezer Babatope has called on members of the Caretaker Committee of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, headed by Senator Ahmed Makarfi to resign accusing it of plotting to distort the processes that will midwife a new leadership for the party.
Babatope, in a statement, accused Makarfi of working towards handing over the chairmanship seat to a candidate supported by Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State.
The former minister disclosed that there is a plan to distort the process of electing a national chairman of the party warning that any attempt to force upon the party a “discredited and dubious leadership will provoke a mass decamping of the Yoruba people from the PDP.”
He said: “There is no doubt in my mind now that Makarfi’s Caretaker Committee is virtually and entirely compromised. The statement issued today by Barrister Abdulahi Jalo, a former Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the PDP and a well known close ally of Alhaji Ahmed Makarfi confirming the presidential ambition of the PDP Caretaker Chairman has basically reinforced the fears that Mr. Makarfi is not a neutral arbiter in the processes that will midwife a new leadership for our party.
“I want to make it absolutely clear that if Mr. Makarfi is an honourable man, he will voluntarily resign his position without waiting to be pushed out.
The game plan of Mr. Makarfi is simply to handover the party administration to Nyesom Wike, the governor of Rivers State through his planted agent and acolyte Mr. Uche Secondus. In this grand scheme to compromise the national convention, Secondus and Wike will equally do a pay back by rigging the presidential primary to favour Makarfi.
“This is indeed a road to perdition and the ultimate destruction of PDP. Any attempt to distort the process and force upon us a discredited and dubious leadership will provoke a mass decamping of the Yoruba people from the PDP. We will never play a second fiddle to anyone.
“The Yoruba will never accept any attempt to insult our people and denigrate our collective intelligence. The only way out now is for Makarfi and his entire Caretaker Committee members to resign immediately. They cannot be trusted. Once the head is rotten, the whole body is subsequently vitiated, corrupted and dishonored.
“We are absolutely clear in our demand. We are absolutely resolved in our position. We will not stand idle and fold our hands while all kinds of machinations are being hatched to destroy the collective interest of the Yoruba people. We insist on micro zoning. We demand that Makarfi and his co-conspirators should resign immediately while a new, neutral arbitrating leadership is appointed.
“The convention itself should be postponed for at least one month to ensure that all the corrupt and crooked contraptions of Makarfi are removed to allow a sane and more objective interregnum. The Yoruba people are now poised and ready to claim what is deservedly ours. If we are denied the chairmanship of the party, we will walk out of the PDP and take our fortunes somewhere else.” https://www.vanguardngr.com/2017/11/pdp-...signation/

Jobless First Class Graduate Gets Instant Employment After PREMIUM TIMES Repor
User Avatar Forum: Other Stories
Posted by: Edoman - 11-25-2017, 04:02 PM - No Replies

A first class Nigerian graduate, who had been unemployed for two years since she left the university, has been offered employment after PREMIUM TIMES published a report on her.

Twenty-two-year-old Odufuwa Sola had almost given up and started learning tailoring at Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State, before the job offer came.

The Physics Electronics graduate from the Ajayi Crowther University, Oyo State, took to Twitter in October to beg people to help her out, after her search for a job yielded no result.

Ms. Sola did not just make a first class but was the best graduating student in the university for that year with a 4.83 G.P.A. She had the honour of delivering a valedictory speech in the school.
Ms. Sola’s story underscored the unemployment crisis in the oil-rich Nigeria which is one of the largest economies in Africa.

Immediately the story was published, Adamu Garba, the CEO of IPI Solution Ltd, an IT firm with offices in Lagos and Abuja, reached out to Ms. Sola via Twitter and within days she was offered an employment in project development and IT solutions after a job interview. She has also been enrolled in a mentorship scheme by the company.
Ms. Sola is trying to settle down on her new job and a new life in Lagos.

“It’s actually a different field from what I learnt in school,” she said. “It’s all about programming.
“The company has done well by providing me with a new laptop, eBooks, and videos to aid my transition into the IT world.

“And I have colleagues around me who are always willing and ready to help. It’s challenging but I know with time I will adjust,” she said.
Ms. Sola said she loves her new job and that the pay was good for a start.

She thanked PREMIUM TIMES for doing a story on her and also thanked her new boss, Mr. Garba, for giving her the opportunity to work in the IT company.
Christopher Olowokere, the Head of Physics with Electronics department, Ajayi Crowther University, said he was aware that Ms. Sola had been offered a job. He expressed delight over it and also thanked the newspaper for the story.

The CEO of IPI Solution Ltd, Mr. Garba, who said he was moved by Ms. Sola’s story, said he picked her Twitter handle from the PREMIUM TIMES report.
“I just sent a Twitter message to her requesting to know if she was available for a job interview. She came in for the interview, she displayed a lot of potentials. She is an intelligent person, we said let’s give her the opportunity to start work immediately,” said Mr. Garba.
Mr. Garba said Ms. Sola now has a great opportunity for a promising career since “the future of the world’s economy is dependent on IT”.

He blamed Nigeria’s worsening unemployment situation on the government and the university system.
“The Nigerian universities do not teach the students how to apply knowledge,” he said, adding that Nigeria could create millions of jobs if only the government was willing to explore the potentials available in IT.
“These five companies, Facebook, Amazon, Google, Microsoft, and Apple combined have about $3.6 trillion in their pool.

“As I’m talking to you, Apples’ earnings now is twice bigger than Nigeria’s GDP. And this is a company of 66,000 staff, while Nigeria has more than 186 million people.

“What is the government doing to empower the local IT guys?” Mr. Garba said, while also advising the government regulatory agencies to stop implementing policies that block multinational IT companies from coming in to play big roles in the Nigerian market.
PREMIUM TIMES asked Ms. Sola about the lessons she has learnt from what has happened.

“I have learnt that I need to come out of my comfort zone, try something new, and take risks.
“There is also this Yoruba adage that says, ‘When you have a problem and you keep it to yourself and don’t share it with others, at times it won’t get solved,’” she said.

How to Start Cashew Nut Business in Nigeria

How to Start Cashew Nut Business in Nigeria

Nigeria is currently the 6th largest producer of cashew nut in the world. This alone speaks volumes. There is so much potential within the cashew industry. However, with the potential comes the need for a good understanding on how the industry works. This product comes from cashew fruits. Cashew is a perennial crop that grows seasonally. Unlike other fruits, its seeds are externally attached to the flesh of the cashew fruit. Alot of extensive research has been done on cashew by the Cocoa Research Institute of Nigeria (CRIN)

You may be lost by the mention of CRIN, but don’t be. This body conducted a series of research on Cashew, which led to the introduction of improved seedlings. Today, the results of this research has resulted in improved cashew yield.
The Relevance of Cashew Nuts

The effort committed to improved cashew cultivation shows its relevance to the economy. Hence the acceptance it has gotten among farmers. Due to its high nutritional value, demand currently outweighs supply. This is therefore good news for investors. An interesting feature of this crop is its wide demand. By wide demand, we mean global demand for cashew. Currently Nigeria is unable to meet up export demands. Cashew nuts has significantly contributed to Nigeria’s revenue generation. Starting cashew business in Nigeria requires the right knowledge.

The cashew value chain engages alot of participants. This implies alot of opportunities for investments. However, to benefit from this, knowledge is key. This is where this article comes handy.

Cashew Farming

This is the point where it all starts. Starting a cashew plantation is serious work. However, this is financially rewarding at the end. Starting a cashew plantation requires alot of time (usually several years) before it starts producing cashew. Here, a nursery is provided where the seeds grow to young trees. By transplanting these to their permanent location, a gradual process of growth commences. These trees need care until they are mature to grow without watering. It is however necessary to note that not everyone wishing to start this business needs to grow a cashew plantation.

Choosing Where to Focus On

As previously stated, starting a cashew nut business requires you to decide the area you would make the most impact on. By impact, we mean being effective. Cashew nut business has an attractive value chain where you can focus your attention on. You may want to process your cashew nuts before selling, or just selling them directly. Whatever the case, knowing the right strategy that will yield the highest financial reward is important. Processing these nuts significantly increases the market value. However, striking a balance between cost and profit is important.

First Obtain Guidance

To start well, it is important to get guidance from the right sources. The Cocoa Research Institute of Nigeria (CRIN) Ibadan,  is a good place to start from. By doing this, you will have significantly lowered the chances of failure in your intended businss. CRIN has carried out a lot of research in this regard, hence, it is the right body to approach. an important aspect of the research conducted by CRIN is that you get to know the sources of demand (both domestic and foreign). This makes exporting of these cashew nuts easier.

Register Your Business
Starting a cashew nut business of worth requires you to register your business. However, registration depends on your scale of operation (scale of operation will be further explained below). Gaining official approval enables the business to function at a much more bigger capacity. Registered agro-allied businesses stand to benefit from a lot of incentives. You may want to take this serious as a new start-up will require all the break it can get to enable it stabilize. Domestic and foreign supply requires you to have a license obtained through registration. To register your business, locate the CAC (Corporate Affairs Commission) office nearest to you.
Scale of Operation

Your financial strenght determines your scale of operation. It is therefore important that you consider your financial strenght and pattern your business according to available resources. Without this, the cashew nut business will likely fall on hard times (financial) in the nearest future. Having an under-funded business is not what you should wish for as it has the ability to cripple business activities.

Brazil’s most dangerous female criminals hold beauty pageant
The only maximum security women’s jail in Rio de Janeiro holds some of Brazil’s most dangerous female criminals.
But once a year they’re allowed to swap their prison uniforms for high heels and glamorous gowns as they hold a beauty pageant on the inside.
Ten inmates strutted along a makeshift catwalk on Wednesday after having their hair and make-up done at the Talavera Bruce jail notorious for fights and riots.
In the event to improve their self esteem, they were judged on their beauty, appeal and attitude as the prison’s other 440 inmates and relatives applauded.
This year’s Miss Talavera Bruce was 29-year-old Mayana Alves, who had seven arrest warrants when she was arrested in 2015 for cargo theft, DailyMail reports.
‘Everyone is very glad to be with their family, she said. ‘Walking the catwalk, I was nervous but happy at the same time. She added: ‘I just wish I had won my freedom as well and could my sash with me out of here.’
Last year’s winner Michelle Rangel, a 28-year-old drug trafficker, said: ‘During this moment, I don’t feel like I am in jail. My soul is freed.’

Burna Boy is not on the run, he’s just busy recording’ – Singer’s team
Looking at his past, Burna Boy is normally in the news for two reasons; either his music or trouble. Once again he made headlines this week but for the latter.
It was reported that the singer through one of his managers contracted the help of some young men to assault fellow singer,Mr. 2kay.
Already the culprits are cooling off at the police station but the whereabouts of the accused, Burna Boy, seems to be unknown. Even though the police have declared him wanted, the singer has still not honoured the invitation of the Nigerian Police.
In a chat with a source in the singer’s camp, Saturday Beats learnt the singer is in Nigeria but is preoccupied in the studio.
The source said,
Burna Boy is neither on the run nor avoiding the police;  he is not guilty. I cannot tell you his exact whereabouts but he is in the country recording. Also, you should know that as the festive season approaches, demand for his services would be on the increase, so he is preparing for appearances as well.
Initially, when he was invited, he could not go to the station because of his engagements, so his father went to the police station in his stead. But now that the police have insisted that they want to see him personally, he would surely honour their invitation. He is not guilty of the charges levelled against him.”

Earlier in the week, a press statement made available by the singer’s camp, Buki Hq, stressed that the singer was innocent of the assault and robbery charge.
The statement read,
The management of Burna Boy (Spaceship Entertainment) hereby makes an official statement regarding the news that Burna Boy has been declared wanted by the police. We use this medium to categorically state that Burna Boy is not in any way involved in the robbery and beating up of Grafton Records artiste, Mr. 2Kay on October 22, 2017.
“The first and only invitation Burna Boy has ever received from the police was issued yesterday, November 20, 2017. This invitation was honoured yesterday, November 20, 2017 and it has been made clear that he is happy to cooperate with the police as best as he can. It is pertinent to note that he was served an arrest warrant. We are confident that the Nigerian police will deal with this fairly and professionally.”

Taraji you are such a dumb insecure broad!!!! This man can literally do ANYTHING to you and in 3months he know that you’ll run back all because you want some good dick!
Nadia was literally cooking in his kitchen (I know that kitchen picture is familiar to you) last week . And now you’re running back to his him and seeing his barber???
You talk a good game in public but in real life all you are is desperate almost 50 year old woman who is emotionally like a 22 year old young ass woman.
Instead of getting your stomach in order, you need to get your mind in order and see a psychologist! Your dad taught you about hustling, but CLEARLY he left out the part about self -worth, and how a man should treat you in his teachings.
You almost act like you were a fatherless child. Looking for love in the biggest dick- no matter the cost to your spirt and soul. Is a good orgasm really worth sharing a penis with 3 different women??? Do you think your dad would approve of Kelvin?
A man who keeps breaking your heart, stepping on it and shit. your dumber than Yvette. At least she was the main— you’re not even that.” He’s NEVER going to let Nadia go! Even while he’s with you now, they are still following each other . They have YEARS! #kelvinhayden#tarajiphenson#cheating

Divorced wife of Bilyaminu breaks silence with a heartbreaking post over death of her ex husband stabbed by new wife
[Image: wife.jpg]
After the stab and death of Bilyaminu, son of PDP ex chairman, whose life was cut short by his dear wife Maryam Sanda, there were reports that he had a wife whom he divorced before marrying the lady that sent him to eternity with deep wounds from a broken bottle.
The divorced wife, Amina Bala Shagari, has however broken her silence since the report went viral. Taking to Facebook to pen down a touching post on how much she still loves and  misses him on his 36th birthday yesterday, Amina writes...

Will love you always .you would have been 36 today .may Allah rest your beautiful soul as people continue to say your name everyday ..you were the kind of
person to leave that kind of impact in your wake and slumber .im sorry we drifted apart i wanted you to have peace .i was so proud of myself for letting her have you to herself .ashe ashe .it wouldn’t even come close to being enough .my darling friend .in different points of my life you were everything.

A brother who pulled my scarf when i did wrong .a friend who knew me best .we decided to get married out of pure friendship .how strong was that bond.and when we couldn’t we still found our way back to being friends.my darling.i dont have enough words .you once asked “what would u do if i die?” I promptly started crying and abused u for suggesting u would die and id be around.those tears shocked u .well if u could see me now .. the thing that was most endearing to me that probably meant nothing to you was the way you never ever ever allowed me to cross the road without holding my wrist to do it for me.it used to infuriate me before i came to expect it .id be like ” see this guy ,before him didnt i cross the road .?” (Smiles).even when we fought u held on .
even if we didnt talk u held on.it was funny,,it was special cos it was not the hand but the wrist ,as if to assure urself you wouldn’t let go .that was who were .till i suggested i wanted ur jealous wife to have peace .i wouldnt call i said u would .and u did .whenever you could.and u saw me whenever u could.bye my love .may Allah link us up in jannah .we will love aleesha xx.”
