Zenith Bank named ‘Best Company In Sustainability Reporting’ in Africa
Zenith Bank has been named ‘Best Company in Sustainability Reporting In Africa,” at the 2017 Sustainability Enterprise Responsibility Awards (SERAS) CSR Awards held at the weekend.
Zenith Bank has blazed a trail, with its 2016 Sustainability Report titled “Creating Wealth Sustainably” being the first Sustainability report in Nigeria, and indeed, the first from Africa’s financial services sector to have adopted the new GRI Standards.
With its 2016 Sustainability Report, Zenith Bank has, true to its pedigree, raised the bar in Sustainability Reporting within and outside the financial services sector, while setting the pace in the adoption of global best standards in reporting. The report has been widely acknowledged in the global Sustainability arena, with the GRI featuring it on the homepage of its official website:https://www.globalreporting.org/, out of the over 44,000 reports by over 11,000 organizations that are hosted on that database.
The bank has not only supported the global climate action and has prioritized investment in green and sustainable business projects but has fully integrated environmental and social considerations into its business and credit administration processes.
As part of its green earth policy, Zenith Bank is the first Bank in Nigeria to have carried out an external audit on its greenhouse gas footprints, using the Greenhouse Gas Protocol Corporate Standards, a globally certified GHG audit procedure.

The new Standards is designed to replace the older GRI G4 reporting guidelines, which was the reporting standard Zenith Bank adopted in its 2015 Sustainability report. The GRI Standards was unveiled in October 2016 by the Global Sustainability Standards Board (GSSB).
Though the timeframe set by the GSSB for institutions to comply with the new Standards is July 2018, Zenith Bank, however, emerged as one of the first institutions in the world to have mastered and adopted the new Standards one year ahead of schedule.
As shown in the reporting database of the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI), over 100 companies have so far adopted the new GRI Standards worldwide, including major brands such as Accenture, Bank Audi, Citi Bank, Commonwealth Bank of Australia, European Investment Bank, Ford Motor Company, ING Group, Johnson & Johnson, Royal Bank of Canada, Singapore Airlines Limited, The Coca-Cola Company, Target, UPS, and so on. Zenith Bank is one of these global early birds.
Sustainability reporting provides a great tool for measuring progress in the adoption of Sustainable business principles. These principles require organizations to adopt responsible environmental and social policies and practices, in line with the UN Sustainable Development Goals, the Nigerian Sustainable Banking Principles, the IFC Performance Standards, the UNGC Sustainability principles, among others.
As a responsible corporate citizen, Zenith Bank takes seriously, its environmental and social responsibilities in all the communities where it operates. And reporting progress in the adoption of these best practices to stakeholders, is also a major corporate responsibility.
Sustainability reporting compels transparency, accountability and good corporate governance. It is also a major self-assessment tool that enables reporting institutions to see the gaps in their sustainability implementation with a view to closing them. This is why reporting has become a key performance indicator, especially among leading global brands.
Zenith Bank has scored many firsts in its Sustainability journey so far. In addition to being one of the global early birds in adopting the new GRI Reporting Standards, the Bank is also the first in the financial services industry to have audited its carbon footprints (Greenhouse Gas emission) using the Greenhouse Gas Protocol Corporate Standards, a globally certified GHG audit procedure.

Young man beaten to death for preventing a gang from seeing his sister in Katsina

Young man beaten to death for preventing a gang from seeing his sister in Katsina
Four weeks after losing his brother to cancer, a gang beat up a young man, Abdulmalik Kabir Yaro to death for preventing them from seeing his sister in Katsina.
[Image: 23754747_1488920604477370_74462132778243...10x410.jpg]

Facebook user, Maiwada Dammallam who is a friend to his father shared the story below…

YET ANOTHER SENSELESS MURDER – Maiwada Dammallam
This is Abdulmalik Kabir Yaro, a wonderful son of my friend from childhood. Abdulmalik lost his younger brother to leukemia about 4 weeks ago. This morning he’s dead, killed (read, executed) by a local gang. Abdulmalik’s offense which earned him death sentence in the court of this gang was his effort to stop the wayward gang from seeing his young sister who’s hardly the age of courtship.
The gang somehow cornered Abdulmalik and beat him up to pulp yesterday. He was rushed to the hospital in coma and gave up the ghost today around 11 am. This is not in Katsina, Kano, Lagos or Port Harcourt, this happened in the heart of Malumfashi, my sweet serene hometown. I’m devastated!
That the victim was my son while my hometown was the theatre of this ungodly violence, made it even more disturbing. That it’s another crime induced by passion and possibly drugs when Nigeria is debating yesterday’s callous murder of a young man by his wife in a case of domestic violence made it even more tragic and cause for concern.
Where are we heading? Why is murder becoming a cheap option for conflict resolution among the youth? What’s missing in the system that people don’t seem afraid to commit grievous offenses that hitherto, were seen only in western movies? We are slowly inching towards a lawless society for lack of political will to implement punitive laws scripted for our country to curtail and control criminality. Most laws in Nigeria are mere decoration on dusty shelves in courtrooms; made ineffective by a cumbersome judicial system. I’m sure the murderers of Abdulmalik would have had a second thought before his murder had they watched a convicted murderer hanged to death for the offense. Sadly, all they have to stimulate their respect for the law were countless stories of murderers getting away with murders due to a mixture of clumsiness and cunningness of our judicial system.
It’s sad that a cry for justice in Nigeria is a cry that only the victim could hear. Our courts are more like a sanctuary for criminals than for their victims. With money, one could get away with almost any crime imaginable under the sun. Good cases were lost to judicial technicalities that have no relevance to the facts of the case. Only in Nigeria would a criminal like Evans who made billions in ransom from his kidnapped victims (some of whom were killed by him anyway) would battle the court to enforce his “human right”. It should make sense that people are resorting to improvised laws to deal with criminality.
Thanks to the inefficacy of our justice system, individual communities have designed laws that are already being implemented in full to dispense speedy justice. Thieves of all grades and categories are roasted by the roadside to circumvent the cumbersomeness of our justice system in most states in the Southern part of the country. It’s only a matter of time before other parts of the country borrow and tailor the system to suit their needs. The only antidote for such likely crisis is a wholistic review of the justice system to make more compliant and user friendly.
My heartfelt condolence to the parents of Abdulmalik for the tragic lost of another promising son when yet to overcome the pain of an earlier bereavement. Allah ya jikanshi da rahama.

FG demands explanation from Italy over burial of 26 girls
The FG has expressed dismay over the hasty burial of the 26 girls who were found dead on the Mediterranean Sea by Italian authorities, 9 days ahead of the slated date.
The bodies of the girls were found on a sinking vessel in the Mediterranean about two weeks ago and there where reports that they may have been sexually abused before they were murdered.

The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Foreign Affairs and Diaspora, Abike Dabiri-Erewa told journalists in Abuja on Monday that the Italian Embassy had earlier indicated to the Director-General, National Agency for Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons that the burial would take place in Salerno, Italy on November 26, 2017.
But the Italian authorities, she said, went ahead with the burial last Friday without informing the Nigerian government, adding that the NAPTIP director is currently in Italy to engage with the Italian authorities ahead of the scheduled burial date.
According to Punchng, the SSA explained that a protest letter had been sent to the Italian envoy in Nigeria over the matter.
Why were they (the bodies) hurriedly buried nine days before the date communicated to the DG, NAPTIP by the Italian Embassy without any information to Nigerian Government?
Why the rush to bury the bodies without carrying out post-mortem to determine the causes of death?,” she queried.

Dabiri-Erewa said that information indicated that only three of the girls were identified as Nigerians, noting that the identities of the other victims had yet to be ascertained before they were interred.
She noted that another issue of concern was that the victims’ families may have wanted them buried in their countries of origin.
The SSA also condemned the reported sale of Africans in a Libyan slave market as broadcast by CNN, saying this was unacceptable, despicable and inhuman.

4 confirmed dead after drinking Ogogoro in Imo state
No fewer than four persons, were said to have died after the consumption of a locally-made alcohol, known as Ogogoro, in Imo State.
It was gathered, yesterday, that the incident occurred at a popular drinking joint of one Uwadiegwu Eze, in Imerienwe community, Ngor-Okpala Local Government Area of the state on Thursday.
A community leader, Agbara Emma, said the victims started complaining of stomach pain few minutes after taking the drink and that the story changed by Saturday.

He gave the names of those who died as Chibuzor Nwosu, Ifeanyi Nkwocha, Ada Danganer and Friday Osuji. The community leader added that Chinonso Amadi, Nnadi Ike, Udoka Ukaegbu, Fineboy Ekeocha, Chiaka Ukaegbu, Onyemauche Igbo, Aboy Amadi, among others, survived after taking the gin.
An indigene, who did not want his name mentioned, said the owner of the bar, where the incident happened, had absconded.
He said the survivors are in an intensive care unit of a hospital along Egbu Road, Owerri, while the remains of the dead ones have been deposited in a mortuary in Nguru, Ngor Okpala.
However, while some were of the view that the locally-made gin was poisoned, others blamed the deceased for being in the habit of excessive consumption of Ogogoro.
The Imo State Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Andrew Enwerem, who could not confirm the incident, said: “We have called the DPO of Imereinwe; he said no such incident was reported.”

Child sex slave serving life sentence for killing man who used her
A child sex slave in Nashville is behind bars for killing the man who used her.
Cyntoia Brown was physically, sexually and verbally abused.
[Image: 636023060172026979-cintoya-brown-002.jpg]
In 2004, Brown killed Nashville realtor Johnny Allen, one of the many men who paid to have sex with the then 16-year-old.
As a child sex slave, she’d been repeatedly raped, abused and held at gunpoint prior to being exploited by Allen.
She admitted she feared his military background paired with the numerous guns she said she observed in his home. She shot and killed the 43-year-old.
He was a sharpshooter in the Army,” Brown said of Allen. “I’m sitting here thinking if he does something, what am I going to do?”
Brown, whose grandmother and mother are also survivors of rape, was sentenced to life in prison with parole eligibility after 51 years.

Woman who never wanted kids now has four after every form of contraception failed her
[Image: nintchdbpict000368167250.jpg]

"I'm scared to have sex" Fertile mum of four reveals that she has fallen pregnant while on the pill, contraceptive injection, the coil and even condoms. 31 year old Emma Brown never planned to have kids but her body wanted otherwise. Now she has finally been sterilised to avoid falling pregnant again. Read her interesting fertile story about how each of the four pregnancies happened...

Emma Brown, 31, is a proud parent to Sofie, 12, Sarah, 11, Stevie, 5, and one-year-old baby Reginald. Originally not wanting to have children, Emma said: “I enjoyed my social life way too much, and dreamed of having a great career and travelling the world.”
But at the age of 17, Emma, from Enfield, Middlesex, met 18-year-old HGV driver Leigh. She’d had the 99%-effective contraceptive injection and had no intention of having a child, but less than a year into the relationship, she fell pregnant.
When the test came back positive, she couldn’t believe it. Even more shockingly, she was found to be nearly six months pregnant.
“I was stunned. I hadn’t had periods for ages but that wasn’t unusual with the contraceptive jab… and there was no bump!” In March 2005, just two months after the discovery and a week after 19-year-old Emma went on maternity leave, she went into labour - and baby Sofie was born.
“It was love at first sight. Sofie was perfect! I’d never felt happiness like it.”
Despite being besotted with her new baby, Emma spoke to her doctor who recommended she went on the pill. She was very careful to never miss one: the last thing she wanted was another baby.
But when Sofie was just over a year old, in April 2006, Emma started feeling sick again. She knew instantly she was pregnant.
With her first scan, she discovered, once again, that she was almost six months pregnant, with no bump showing.
Emma wasn’t happy about the news: the timing was bad, as her relationship with Leigh was falling apart.
“The night I went into labour, my dad dropped Leigh and I at the hospital. Just minutes later, Sarah entered the world!” Having two kids was a struggle for Emma, then 20. But she soon got a job as a nurse and managed to make ends meet.
Within a year of Sarah’s birth, Emma and Leigh had split up.
Emma said: “It was clear that Leigh wasn’t ready to settle down. He’s always been a great dad though and sees the girls regularly.”
At the end of 2010, after a few years as a single mum, Emma met 24-year-old soldier Adam.
There was an instant attraction between the couple, but because Emma had no desire to have any more children, she made herself doubly safe by taking the pill and using condoms.
Their relationship quickly became serious - and, just four months later, Emma found herself pregnant again.
“We were shocked, but once we’d got past that, we were both happy.”
Stevie – another baby girl – was born in January 2012 and, while both parents were over the moon at her arrival, Emma decided that enough was enough. “After Stevie was born, I went straight to my GP and begged to be sterilised. My doctor thought that, at 25, I was too young - and persuaded me to have a coil fitted. She suggested the copper coil, as we were starting to wonder whether the hormones I’d been taking were somehow making me more fertile.”
The IUD served her well until March last year, when she discovered it had failed her again.
Emma said: “I was starting to realise that no contraception could stop me from getting pregnant. Baby Reginald arrived in October 2016.
“It was great having a little boy after having three girls: little Reginald made my gang complete.” Sadly, Emma and Adam grew apart after Reginald’s birth. “Adam wanted to carry on doing the stuff that young blokes do, but I felt more mature, being a mum of four with loads of responsibilities. He’s a good dad though – and we’re still friends.”
After Reginald was born, Emma’s doctor finally agreed for her to be sterilised - she had the surgery in April this year.
Emma admitted: “The doctor was as shocked as I was. She said she’d never seen this happen before. It’s not ideal being sterilised so young, but I don’t have much choice.
“My doctor stressed to me that no contraception is 100% effective and that, although it’s extremely rare, some women do seem to be able to get pregnant regardless of the type of contraception they use.

RHAPSODY OF REALITIES DAILY DEVOTIONAL (NOVEMBER PDF => http://bit.ly/2cuJG6M

*THE GLORY OF THIS LATTER HOUSE” .*

Tuesday, November 21st .
Pastor Chris

_*The glory of THIS LATTER HOUSE shall be greater than of the former, saith the LORD of hosts: and in this place will I give peace, saith the LORD of hosts (Haggai 2:9).*_

Notice the expression “The glory of this latter house” in our opening text. The emphasis here is on the word “this”, a demonstrative adjective that specifies what is being referred to. So, in our opening verse, it refers to the present: “this latter house”; it didn’t say, “the latter house.” They’re two different things. The prophet wasn’t talking about the glory of a house in the future, but the glory of “this present house,” the house currently being built.

It’s important to make this clarification, because oftentimes when these words are given in prophetic language, it’s often said that “The glory of the latter house, shall exceed the former,” but that’s not what God said. We have the tendency to always push it to the future, as though we have a plan to build the latter house someday; but it’s not futuristic!

There was a former house, but it was destroyed; hence, the need for this latter house. So, the prophet says the glory of this current house, that is, whatever you’re building right now, whatever projects or visions you’re involved in, expect that the glory will by far surpass anything you’ve ever seen or experienced. What house are you building now? Make it the glorious house of your dream now; don’t push it to the future.

You’ve been exposed to new ideas and innovations; put them to work; upgrade and surpass the old experience. In the previous vision, you had a pattern, and you were going to build it according to that pattern, but you’ve gained new insight, you’ve seen a bigger vision, so you need to upgrade and change the levels to conform to this new vision. You declare, “I make all things new in the Name of the Lord Jesus Christ; I’m making adjustments for this new level.” Hallelujah!

*PRAYER*

The elder statesman died Sunday November 19 in London where he was receiving treatment.
Buhari’s reaction is contained in a statement by his spokesman, Femi Adesina.
It read: “President Buhari commiserates with the entire Oko Kingdom, the Aguata Council of Traditional Rulers, and the Ekwueme family, over the loss of the family’s patriarch, whose regular counsels on national issues and mediations for peaceful co-existence would be sorely missed.

“President Buhari believes Dr Ekwueme worked assiduously to improve the livelihood of many poor and underprivileged people through the Alex Ekwueme Foundation, describing him as a man who served his country and humanity.

Why Buhari should implement 2014 confab report —Jonathan
User Avatar Forum: Retired Forums. Please Make Your Post Within The 3 Forums In General Discussion
Posted by: Edoman - 11-20-2017, 07:17 PM - No Replies

FORMER President Goodluck Jonathan has advised his successor, President Muhammadu Buhari, to implement the report of the 2014 national conference, insisting that the report contains a lot of panacea for Nigeria’s problems.
Jonathan, in a statement by his Media Adviser, Ikechukwu Eze, which quoted the former leader as speaking in a goodwill message, at the fifth Integration Summit Roundtable in Abuja, indicated that leaders need to take decisions that will outlive them in office.
According to the statement, the former president reiterated in the message that the current administration needed to implement the report of the 2014 national conference because it held the key “for reshaping and consolidating the necessary common grounds and shared values, needed to move the nation forward.”
Jonathan also stated that he did not implement the report of the confab he put together because of time constraint.
He emphasised that the 2014 confab held the answers to most of what Nigerians were agitating for today, adding that the administration did not have enough time to implement the conference recommendations, given that the report was submitted to him in August 2014, a few months before the next general election.
According to him, it would take up to one year to complete the necessary processes for implementation, adding that a rushed approach within the limited time he had in office before handing over in 2014, would have created ethical questions.
According to the statement, “I am aware that some people have raised some issues with the fact that I did not implement the recommendations of the confab during my tenure. I would like to state that those making this kind of claim are not being fair to me.
“Such people tend to forget that the report was submitted in August 2014, few months before the last general election. It was at a time that the National Assembly was on a break with many of the members already retreating to their different constituencies to prepare their constituents for elections.
“I believe that to have a tidy procedure of implementation, it would have involved committee deliberations, public hearings and town hall consultations, on different segments of the report. There is no doubt that the nation then needed up to one year to complete the processes of implementing the recommendations.
“It was obvious that my administration, given the time the report was submitted, couldn’t have implemented the report, before the 2015 elections, without running into ethical questions,” Jonathan said.
The former president also said that it was necessary to address the issues already dealt with in the conference report, adding that Nigeria was still witnessing agitations because “we are still trying to discover the best way to run our Republic, so that whatever policies we pursue or projects we implement as a nation, will benefit the greatest number of our population.”
He stated further: “It was a conference that was designed to shape our future. Its outcome was meant to be of benefit to the future generation of Nigerians. Contrary to the claims in some quarters, the conference was not designed for my own gain or for the immediate benefit of the participants.
‘’I believe that those entrusted with the responsibilities to formulate policies or make laws should take the kind of decisions that should outlive them, not the ones designed to deliver instant profits to them.”
Meanwhile, the Southern Senators Forum (SSF), under the leadership of Senator Hope Uzodinma, is to hold a retreat to discuss issues of restructuring and the national question, the senator said in a statement on Sunday.
The Senator, in the statement, said the SSF was reiterating its commitment to ensuring an equitable, progressive and prosperous Nigeria.
He stated that the group would continue to canvass lasting solutions to issues affecting Nigerians, irrespective of tribe or religion while ensuring that citizens aspire to be the best nature had bequeathed to them.
According to the senator, the forum, in furtherance of its commitment to peace and tranquillity in the polity, had scheduled a retreat to discuss burning national issues, including the protection of ethnic minorities in the country.
He said the retreat, billed for November 23 to 26 would feature eminent Nigerians from across the country.
He pointed out that the eminent citizens would join the lawmakers in discussing other burning issues, including the imperatives of restructuring in a multi-religious country as Nigeria and the role of the legislature in a constitutional democracy.
Uzodinma added that the sustenance of national unity in a restructured Nigeria would equally be discussed.
He said: “The Southern Senators Forum is a consultative assembly of serving senators from the southern states of the federation that has been in existence since the advent of democracy in 1999.

Ekwueme: Saraki, Ohanaeze mourn late Vice President
User Avatar Forum: Politics

Senate president Bukola Saraki has expressed sadness on the passing of former vice president, Dr Alex Ekwueme.
He applauded the deceased for his contribution to development of Nigeria.
“Today, I join Ndigbo and the entire nation to mourn the passing of one of Nigeria’s most illustrious sons, H.E. Dr. Alex Ekwueme, our first elected Vice-President.
“As we mourn his death, we celebrate his dedication and service to the development of our country.
“I will always remember Dr. Alex Ekwueme for his exemplary courage in the face of overwhelming odds – when he stood up to past military regimes, and his dexterity in his personal pursuits as a successful architect, lawyer, businessman and philanthropist.
“I pray for God’s strength for Dr. Alex Ekwueme’s family at this difficult time.
“May the Almighty in His infinite wisdom and grace continue to guide the family and the nation that he has left behind. He was a rare man and a great leader, as such, he will be missed.”
Similarly, Igbo socio-political and cultural organisation, the Ohanaeze, has described Ekwueme as an outstanding patriot whose contributions to the country’s socio-political evolution would be indelible.
President General of Ohanaeze, Chief John Nnia Nwodo, in a statement, said the country has lost one of the foremost advocates of a restructured federation.
“As Vice President Dr Ekwueme was intellectually forthright, engaging, loyal and outstandingly patriotic.
“As a politician he was courageous and original in his ideas.
Ndigbo have lost a genius, a father and an intellectual giant”, he said.
The Ohanaeze leader further commiserated with his immediate family, friends, associates and Nigeria for the huge loss.
He, however, appealed to the Nigeria government to immortalise Ekwueme.

Patience Jonathan Called Adoke Foolish Man For Not Disqualifying PMB - Abdullahi
User Avatar Forum: Politics
Posted by: Edoman - 11-20-2017, 06:57 PM - No Replies

Snippets of what transpired after the defeat of President Goodluck Jonathan in the March 28, 2015 presidential election are now coming to the open, with his wife accused of calling Mohammed Bello Adoke, then-attorney-general of the federation, a “useless man” for not helping to disqualify candidate Muhammadu Buhari.
In his upcoming book, ‘On a Platter of Gold: How Jonathan Won and Lost Nigeria’, Bolaji Abdullahi — who served as minister under Jonathan from 2011-2014 — alleged that Olusegun Mimiko, then-governor of Ondo state, wanted Buhari, the APC candidate, prosecuted for “certificate forgery” and disqualified from contesting in the election.
But Adoke, who was considered one of the most powerful ministers under Jonathan, argued against it, maintaining that there was no legal basis to prosecute Buhari.
The APC candidate went on to win the historic election which saw the defeat of an incumbent president for the first time in Nigeria, but Patience Jonathan gave a piece of her mind to Adoke two days after the poll.
In an advance copy of the book seen by TheCable, Abdullahi described Jonathan as a man who had “a distinct aversion for taking any action that could be regarded as unlawful or illegal”.
This, he said, made the attorney-general central to most of the decisions the former president had to make.
Abdullahi wrote: “Two days after the election, Adoke had gone to see the president in respect of the appointment of a new chief judge for the FCT. While waiting in the outer room, the First Lady walked in. He rose to greet her. But she took one long look at him and hissed: ‘Useless man. You betrayed my husband. Now that he has lost the election, you are happy. It was the same Attorney General that Bayo Ojo used to disqualify Atiku for Obasanjo (in 2007). It was the same office that (Mike) Aondoakaa used to make dead man (Umaru Musa Yar’Adua) to rule Nigeria. But when it comes to my husband, you will be shouting, constitution, constitution.'”
‘CONSTITUTIONAL PURIST’
Adoke: Faced the wrath of Jonathan’s wife, PDP governors and Niger Delta elders
Abdullahi said Mimiko was at the forefront of the agitation to have Adoke issue a fiat that would have given the power to a private citizen to prosecute Buhari for certificate forgery which could have led to his disqualification from the election, “or at the very least, disrupt the electoral process”.
Buhari had said his secondary school certificate was with the military authorities, but after they denied having it, he got a replacement from his alma mater, Government College, Katsina.
Adoke stood his ground as pressure grew for him to kick-start the process of disqualifying Buhari — a situation that made Jonathan’s supporters, including his wife, blame the attorney-general for the loss.
“There were a number of other issues that led many in the president’s immediate political circle to conclude that Adoke was the reason that President Jonathan failed to act with the required toughness on some issues,” Abdullahi wrote.
“When in May 2013 the president declared a state of emergency in Borno, Adamawa and Yobe, some of the president’s men, led by Ijaw leader Edwin Clark, had asked him to sack the governors of those states as part of the emergency measures. Adoke, on the other hand, counselled the president against sacking the governors, insisting that such action had no constitutional backing. Clark fired back, asking the president to sack Adoke himself.
“Prominent lawyers and civil society groups promptly weighed in on the side of the minister, and commended him for being a ‘constitutional purist’. They noted that he could easily have allowed the president to act differently, if he were so minded, relying on the precedent set by President Obasanjo in the case of Plateau State and Governor Joshua Dariye in 2004 – a matter concerning which the Supreme Court had declined to make a definite ruling.”
GOVERNORS’ REVOLT
Clark asked Jonathan to “sack the attorney-general”
Abdullahi said a similar situation arose after five governors left the PDP to join APC in November 2013.
“Some PDP governors had gone to the president and asked that their decamped (defected) colleagues be removed and be replaced by their deputies. Their argument was that those governors did not contest the elections by themselves but on behalf of the party. They pointed out that this had been determined in the case of Amaechi vs. INEC (in 2007), in which the Supreme Court ruled that it is the party that contests election and not an individual,” he wrote.
“The mandates held by those governors were therefore held in trust for the PDP and could not be transferred to another party. If a governor left the party, as the five governors had done, they ought to leave their mandate behind. Where their deputies did not follow them to APC, those deputies should be sworn in as governors without delay. Whereas, where the deputy governors had also decamped, a sole administrator should be appointed. Failure to take these steps would amount to robbing Peter to pay Paul.
“The president summoned the Attorney General and asked for his opinion. In line with his established character, Adoke told the president that the position being canvassed by the governors could not withstand the test of the law. The constitution did not grant the president such powers and had spelt out clearly how a governor could be removed from office. If Jonathan were to act as the governors were canvassing for, it would amount to an impeachable offence. And that was the end of the matter.”
The book will go on sale nationwide from November 30, 2017 after the launch.
Abdullahi was fired as minister of sport in March 2014 by Jonathan allegedly on account of his “godfather”, Bukola Saraki, who had joined other party rebels in defecting to the APC.
He is currently the national publicity secretary of the APC.

Bishop Bridget Eagle Okafoagu Dies, Resurrects After 3 Days - Says Husband

Quote:By Sunday Agbo, Phil Okose & Damian Duruiheoma

Bishop Bridget Eagle Okafoagu, wife of the Archbishop of New Covenant of God’s Mission, Akaboukwu in Uruagu, Nnewi who died recently at Nnewi community hospital, Anambra state has resurrected after three days, Orient Daily has learnt.

Testimony of the miraculous feat was shared by Professor Emma David Okafoagu, archbishop of the church who organised a special thanksgiving and ordination service for his resurrected wife penultimate Sunday at Nnewi.

“Today is a great day for me. I am using this occasion to dedicate my second journey in the ministry. My wife coming back to life also means me coming to life and it is for a purpose. We have passed the first phrase of our ministration of over 40 years of active ministry”, Okafoagu declared during the thanksgiving service.

According to him, Bishop Mrs. Okafoagu suddenly fell sick and she was rushed to a private hospital (Ejiofor) in Nnewi. Things took a dramatic twist and she died but instead of making arrangements for her burial, the clergyman decided to seek divine solution after the orthodox medical efforts to save her life failed. The archbishop recalled the dramatic events that led to his wife’s death and subsequent resurrection in an exclusive interview with Orient Daily.

Hear him: “I just came in and saw that she was not feeling well in the parlour and before I and my son could take her into my vehicle to rush her to hospital, we discovered that there was no life in her again. But, I summoned faith and believed that she was not dead and we drove her to hospital and called the consultant doctor to attend to her.

“At the hospital, she was revived and she started vomiting. In the process, she stained my clothes and that of the doctor. After that incident, she gave up again and the doctor called me and said there was no hope in reviving her again. I was watching the doctor as he was talking because he knows me very well. And after saying all those medical terminologies to explain that my wife has gone, he turned round and said, ‘but, archbishop, you can pray and something miraculous can still happen in this case’.

“It was at that point that I decided to call my sons living in Lagos and told them to come back. They took evening flight back to Nnewi and joined a team of my pastors; all of us went into prayers and on the third day, she suddenly turned and started looking around.

“I called the doctor on phone and he said it was not true that she woke up. When the doctor came and saw her awake, he asked her if she knew who he was and she responded, ‘yes, you are doctor Ejiofor’. When the doctor asked her where she had been for the past three days, she replied that she didn’t know where she was”.

When Orient Daily asked him what motivated him to refuse the doctor’s death report on his wife’s death, the clergyman disclosed that reviving dead people was not knew to his ministry. He recalled previous instances where God used him to resurrect people from death.

“I was in that church some years ago and they brought a dead boy of seven years old. I directed that they should not bury the corpse. First of all, I chased the parents and other members of the family that were crying or mourning his death away from the church and went into prayers. After praying for three days, the boy came back to life. That boy is now grown up and is currently a welder in Nnewi.

“There was also the case of a three-year-old boy who died and the parents brought his corpse to our church for final blessing. I refused to accept that he was dead. Again, I went into prayers for three days and the boy eventually resurrected. He is today residing in Abuja.

According to him, “I refused such deaths because in our ministry – New Covenant of God’s Mission – we believe in our church that those who have covenant with God and because of promises of God in Jeremiah 31:31; Jeremiah 33: 1-8; the books of Corinthians and Psalm. I believe that those who are strong in that covenant, that according to the word of God, even if they are dead, they will live again.

Bishop Okafoagu also recalled another incident that happened with his wife 16 years earlier. According to him, “my wife was sick and I took her to the Dr. Dozie Ikedife’s hospital at Nnewi and her sickness became worse and after seven days, the doctor called me and said that he learnt that I resurrect people who are dead; that my wife was dead that I should come and carry her corpse.”

“When I came to carry her, Ikedife insisted that I will pay N150,000 which I refused; and as we were dragging it, one contractor called Enoch saw us and called our traditional ruler, Igwe, Kenneth Orizu III. He resolved the dispute over the payment. I settled him before he allowed me to take her home and decided to take her case to God in prayers. And after about three weeks, she was healed and all her body started functioning well again.

“Our Igwe and Ikedife who witnessed this case are still alive and even came to the recent ceremony of her resurrection”, he adds.

Okafoagu explained further that the miraculous resurrection of his wife was just a small thing compared to other amazing miracles that God had done through him and his ministry in the past forty-five years of his ministry. “I can never give up on things that I know God can do, even when it seems impossible to ordinary people. My God can never give up. God has done many wonders through me during my 45 years of first missionary journey. That is why I have decided to launch my second missionary journey during the thanksgiving service because I believe my God is alive always and is always ready to answer the prayers of those who believe in him.

Narrating what happened to her, Mrs. Okafoagu said: “I breathed my last at Ejiofor Hospital, Nnewi. My husband said the doctor told him that he (the doctor) had done all he could do to get me revived without success. My husband said the death certificate was not acceptable to him even though he said I was about being prepared to be deposited in the morgue.

“My husband said he told the doctor that he had just told him the reality on ground. He began to telephone Heaven with his petition to God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Ghost,” she narrated.

She said when she came back to life she was able to recognise people around her as a proof that she was fully back to the land of the living. Asked where she saw herself for the whole of the three days she passed on, Bishop (Mrs.) Okafoagu said she never found herself in any new environment or conscious of anything. She used the opportunity to call for people’s repentance and acceptance of Christ as their Lord and personal saviour.

Bishop Okafoagu was full of gratitude to God “for giving me more years to live on earth.”

Commenting on the miracle, General Bishop Obiora said what happened to Bishop (Mrs.) Okafoagu was a demonstration that Jesus remained the same forever. He said that every believer should work hard to convert more souls for Christ, saying that there was nothing Jesus could not do in the life of those who believe in Him. He called for total repentance of those who had not received Jesus Christ.

Dignitaries who attended the special thanksgiving service included Igwe Kenneth Orizu III, the traditional ruler of Nnewi, Bishop Paul Nwachukwu, Founder, Grace of God Mission, Bishop Innocent Erimujor, Bishop Ossy Dominics (National Evangelical Mission), Bishop Titus Orji, General overseer of the Life of Faith Gospel Assembly, Anambra state and General Bishop Emma Obiorah as well as Prophet Chris Ikechukwu of ‘Die by fire’ Mission.

In his reaction to the miraculous resurrection, Bishop Obiora declared that what transpired in the case of Bishop (Mrs.) Okafoagu was a demonstration that Jesus Christ remained the same forever and is ever ready to come to the aid of those who earnestly seek His help. He stressed that “every believer should work hard to convert more soul for Christ.”

Fayose Secretly Planning To Join APC-Senator Aluko
User Avatar Forum: Politics

Former Senate Deputy Chief Whip, Gbenga Aluko on Sunday accused Governor Ayo Fayose, Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party Governors’ forum of making surreptitious moves to join the All Progressives Congress (APC), having realized that the PDP can’t win the impending election.

Aluko, who declined further explanation on the moves being made by Fayose over this allegation, said: “In APC, there is no move that you make that a leader like me won’t know.

Fayose knew that he can’t win the forthcoming election and we are following every of his moves and attempt to join APC”.

Aluko, added that Fayose had always been riding on back of the presidency to win election, saying the 2003 and 2014 elections that produced him as a governor were fraught with irregularities.

Aspirants from the south senatorial district are agitating for the zoning of the governorship ticket to the area, which has never produced the governor since 1999. At a press conference in Ado Ekiti on Sunday, where he reviewed his visits to 11 local governments and 122 wards to canvass for votes ahead of the APC primaries, Aluko said Fayemi shared the view that it is the time for the south to produce the governor.

Meanwhile, Fayose’s Chief Press Secretary, Idowu Adelusi, in a statement Sunday night , said to say ‘Mr Ayodele Fayose is making moves to defect to APC, is false’ and that Joining APC was like leaving Jesus Christ for Satan.

How to Increase the Body Weight of Broilers

How to Increase the Body Weight of Broilers
Consumers want to buy broiler chickens with higher weights, and some are ready to go with the price you are willing to sell them when they are impressed with the broilers’ weight. As a poultry farmer, I’m sure you’re having a number of broiler chickens you are raising to sell during festive periods such as Christmas, Easter, Sallah etc. However, you’re worried about something. Most or all your broilers are not growing as expected and they have not attained the expected market weight. I understand your worries and how you are feeling right now. It is not easy raising broilers for over 2 months (as the case may be) but all looks as if nothing has been done. It kills one’s morale and set fear in one’s mind.

[Image: how-to-raise-broiler-chickens.jpg?resize=325%2C269]The truth is that, if your broilers do not grow bigger or have good body weights, then don’t expect much profit or have it at the back of your mind that you run at a loss. Nevertheless, you can still do something to make your broiler chicken grow bigger. This post would explain how to make broilers add more weight without incurring additional cost. Here are four ways to achieve this:

1. Sort broilers according to their sizes and weights
The first thing you need to do is that you should sort your broilers that have similar body size or weight together, and keep them in the same growing pen. This will eliminate the factor of inequality. In addition, they will be able to feed well without being intimidated or cheated by the bigger or weightier broilers. You can increase the quantity of finisher feeds given to the group with lower weights. When you do this, you will surely see a difference.

2. Use broiler growth promoter or enhancer
I don’t usually support farmers using growth enhancers for their animals. They could be harmful to your animals in one way or the other. However, if you must use it, try and research on them and consult your veterinarian. If you must use any broiler growth enhancer, try as much as possible to use plant-based broiler growth promoter or enhancer.

3. Avoid starving your chickens
I have visited the farms of friends and family, and even that of clients. Some of them starve their chickens in the name of no money to raise them again. In the first place, why should you commit yourself into what you won’t finish? So don’t expect any miracle if you are not giving your broilers the required quantity of feed they need to feed on. If you feed your chickens well, they will grow bigger and attract more market prices. Though, there are cases where broilers don’t grow well, irrespective of the quality and quantity of feed given to them. The major reason for this is related to the broilers’ genetic foundation. So ensure you purchase a good broiler breed from a reputable farm or hatchery if you want to raise broilers for commercial purpose.

4. Formulate an excellent broiler feed formula
Another way to make your broilers grow bigger or have a higher weight is by producing and feeding them with an excellent feed. I have decided to share my special broiler diet formula which includes both starter and finisher diet.  https://www.livestocking.net/increase-th...-christmas

How To Successfully Raise Broiler Chickens

How To Successfully Raise Broiler Chickens
This post discusses how to start broiler farming with success. There is a link to a Broiler Farming eBook below. Broiler Farming is a profitable agribusiness enterprise. The word ‘Broiler’ originates from the word ‘Broil” which means to cook by exposure to direct heat; to cook over hot grill or coals; to heat directly. Broiler is a name given to meat cooked by broiling. This kind of meat is usually tender, succulent, and juicy; an instance is chicken barbecue.

A fryer is a bird found suitable for cooking by frying. A fryer is usually a bigger-sized bird than broiler. Examples are cockerel, cock, or an old broiler. Another bird bigger in size than fryers and they are processed by roasting in the oven is known as Roasters. An example is an older broiler or well grown matured cock.
Broiler Production Programmes

There are two broiler production programmes which can be used for raising broilers. These are;

  1. Occasional production programme; for special events such as Christmas, Easter, and Salah festivals or some other demands like weddings, anniversary celebrations, birthdays, thanksgiving, etc.

  2. Regular production programmes; which are; All-in, all-out system; and Multiple production system.

Before you start raising broilers either for commercial purpose or personal consumption, there are some management practices that you must know. These are housing,
feed and feedingwater consumptionbrooding, and vaccination.

Housing Management in Broiler Farming

It is ideal to fence a broiler farm or unit to reduce human traffic which will reduce an incidence of disease outbreak and birds theft. These birds are most commonly raised on deep-litter in conventional poultry houses and sometimes in backyard poultry houses. They can also be raised in metal or wooden cages too. The length of the house for rearing can be a manageable dimension but the width should be maximum of 11 metres for sufficient natural ventilation.

An average floor space of 0.1 m2 is good. Reducing the floor space thereby increasing the population per unit space results to overcrowding, increased mortality, cannibalism, reduced feed efficiency, uneven growth, and increase breast blister incidence. The more the floor space provided per bird, the more the average mature body weight.

Floor space has effect on the mature body weight of broilers

Floor space (m2/bird)                                  Mature body weight of bird (kg)
0.06                                                                    1.4
0.07                                                                    1.8
0.09                                                                    2.3
0.12                                                                    2.7
0.16                                                                    3.2

For large-scale commercial broiler production, the broiler population in a house can be as high as 10,000-50,000. Maximum recommended population per pen when using deep-litter is 2,500 for ease of management. Broilers can be raised in cages (battery cage system) as well as on the floor (deep-litter system). When raise in cages, more birds are raised per unit space.

Deep-litter House

Broiler farmers have used various lighting programmes for broiler production ranging from lack of supplementary lighting to all-night lighting with one hour of darkness in environmentally controlled poultry houses. The reasons for the one hour of light per day is to accustom the birds to some darkness in the event of accidental darkness in such event, the birds will not be frightened and stampede with consequent injury. The light provided to broiler should not be too bright to reduce bird activity. It should just be bright enough for the birds to find their feed and water. For conventional housing, supplementary light may not be provided at night. Research has found that there is no significant advantage in providing supplementary light at night.

Feeds and Feeding in Broiler Farmng

Broilers can feed on the same diet from day-old to market age if the diet is adequate in protein and energy. Nutritional requirements of broilers vary with age, hence two different diets are commonly given to broilers.

  • Broiler starter diet. This diet usually contains 23-24% protein and 3190kcal/kg energy. This is fed for the first 3-4 weeks. Thereafter, the broiler chicks have commensurate additional growth response.

  • Broiler finisher diet. This diet usually contains 20-21% protein and 3300kcal/kg energy. This is fed after 3-4 weeks until the birds reach the market weight between 8-10 weeks.
Some broiler farmers feed pre-starter diet, which contains more protein and antibiotics for a better start for the first 2 weeks. Where such is fed, three diets are therefore used and the normal starter diet is re-designated grower diet. Broilers are commonly given mash but crumbles and pellets are acceptable to them. They should be fed and watered ad libitum. Feeders should be constantly raised to the level of the back of the broilers also to prevent feed wastage.
A broiler will consume approximately 1.25kg of broiler starter mash in 4 weeks. Between 4-10 weeks it will consume about 3.75-4.75kg of finisher mash. The average feed conversion rate is 2:1 i.e. 2kg of feed per 1kg body weight gain. In many flocks, feed conversion is above 2. Feed conversion ratio usually increases with age of birds. Many producers market their broilers at 8 weeks because it has been shown that after 8 weeks, the rate of body weight gain starts declining while feed conversion continues to increase. The table below shows a good feed formula of a good and cost effective broiler starter and broiler finisher feed.

Water Consumption in Broiler Farming

Water is very important to broiler chickens. When deprived of water, they die. A simple way of estimating the volume of water required by broilers is to multiply the age of broiler in weeks by 2.The answer gives the estimated litre of water needed by 100 broilers daily that week. For instance, at 7 weeks of age, 100 broilers will drink 7 x 2= 14 litres of water daily. Water consumption increases during the hot weather.

How To Debeak Chickens

What is Debeaking or Beak Trimming?

Beak trimming in poultry management is the act of reducing the length of the beak of poultry birds. The purpose of doing this is to prevent feather pulling and cannibalism and to reduce feed wastage. It is a delicate operation, and if it is improperly done, it may leads to difficulties in drinking and eating, which directly leads to poor growth, unevenness in flock and even mortality as a result blood loss.
[Image: Photo0078-1024x768.jpg?resize=403%2C303]
The operation can be carried out at one week-old (7-9 days) and few weeks-old (8-10 weeks). The advantage of debeaking at one-week-old is that, the operation would have a minimum effect on chick’s body weight and it is not necessary to carry it out again a second time during the rearing period. For precise beak trimming operation, the birds should be few weeks old (8-10 weeks). The general disadvantage of debeaking or beak trimming is that, when it is improperly done, it could take long for the birds to regain body weight.
Debeaking Techniques
The different ways of trimming the beak of birds are:

  • Use of machine

  • Use of knife
Rules in Debeaking or Beak Trimming
Before beak trimming:
During beak trimming:

  • The operator should be installed and seated comfortably in such a way that each beak will be cut in the same manner.

  • Do not rush the process: a too high rate (number of birds/minute) could lead to a higher chance of errors and poor uniformity.

  • Clean the blades with sandpaper after use of 5,000 chicks or birds.

  • Make sure the tongue of the bird is not burned.
    After beak trimming:

    • Increase the water level in the drinkers and the pressure in the pipes to make it easy for the birds to drink.

    • Make sure that the depth of the feed is adequate. Do not empty the feeders for a week following beak trimming.

    • It is important to give birds anti-stress or multivitamins before and after the operation so as to reduce the stress effect on the birds’ performance.
  • It is highly beneficial to debeak poultry birds to reduce mortality due to pecking, and wastage of feed to save cost.Have QUESTIONS bothering your mind about Agribusiness? By Modupe Gbadeyanka

In the third quarter of 2017, Nigeria recorded a growth in its Gross Domestic Product (GDP) by 1.4 percent, data released today by the National Bureau Statistics (NBS) revealed.

In the report obtained by Business Post, the stats office said this growth is the second consecutive positive growth since the emergence of the economy from recession in the second quarter of this year.

In the data released on Monday, NBS said, “This growth is 3.74 percent points higher than the rate recorded in the corresponding quarter of 2016 (–2.34 percent) and higher by 0.68 percent points from the rate recorded in the preceding quarter, which was revised to 0.72 percent from 0.55 percent (Q2 was revised following revisions by NNPC to oil output and hence led to revisions to Oil GDP).

It noted that quarter on quarter, real GDP growth was 8.97 percent year-to-date Real GDP growth stands at 0.43 percent.

In the quarter under review, aggregate GDP stood at N29,451,303.99 million in nominal terms higher when compared to N26,537,651.01 million in Q3 2016, resulting in a Nominal GDP growth of 10.98 percent.

“This growth is higher relative to growth recorded in Q3 2016 of 9.15 percent,” the stats office stated in the report today.

NBS further disclosed that in the period under review, oil production is estimated to have averaged 2.03 million barrels per day (mbpd), 0.15million barrels higher than the revised daily average production recorded in the second quarter of 2017 (revised from 1.84mbpd to 1.87mbpd).

Oil production during the quarter was higher by 0.42million barrels per day relative to the corresponding quarter in 2016, which recorded an output of 1.61mbpd.

It added that real growth of the oil sector was 25.89 percent (year-on-year) in Q3 2017. This represents an increase of 48.92 percent relative to rate recorded in the corresponding quarter of 2016.

Growth also increased by 22.36 percent when compared to Q2 2017 which was revised from 1.64 percent to 3.53 percent.

Quarter-on-Quarter, the oil sector grew by 21.10 percent in Q3 2017. As a share of the economy, the oil sector contributed 10.04 percent of total real GDP in Q3 2017, up from figures recorded in the corresponding period of 2016 and up from the preceding quarter, where it contributed 8.09 percent and 9.04 percent to GDP respectively.

It was also stated that the non-oil sector grew by -0.76 percent in real terms during the reference quarter. This is lower by -0.79 percent point compared to the rate recorded same quarter, 2016 and -1.20 percent point lower than in the second quarter of 2017.

This sector was driven this quarter mainly by Agriculture (Crop), Other services and Electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply.

In real terms, the Non-Oil sector contributed 89.96 percent to the nation’s GDP, lower than the share recorded in the third quarter of 2016 (91.91 percent) and in the second quarter of 2017 (90.96 percent).

RHAPSODY OF REALITIES DAILY DEVOTIONAL (NOVEMBER PDF => http://bit.ly/2cuJG6M

*RESPONDING TO THE WORD .*

Monday, November 20th .
Pastor Chris

_*…for he hath said…So that we may boldly say… (Hebrews 13:5-6).*_

Speaking God’s Word and responding to God’s Word are two different things. Many think they’re the same, but they’re not. Most have never been taught how to respond to God’s Word and many don’t know what it is to actually speak God’s Word.

A good example of speaking the Word in response to a situation was the encounter between the Lord Jesus and Satan as recorded in Matthew 4:1-4 (read entire reference). The Master responded to Satan, quoting the scripture that says, _*“It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God”*_ (Matthew 4:4). He spoke the Word; He said exactly what God already said through Moses, the Prophet.

So, when do you speak the Word? It’s mainly when Satan throws thoughts at you, and circumstances raise their voices against you. You say, “It is written,” and then go ahead to say what is written; don’t try to put it in your own words. Say it exactly as it is in Scripture. We learnt that from Jesus. He didn’t try to paraphrase or put it in His own words; He said, “It is written,” and then quoted what was written. He wasn’t trying to give the interpretation; He gave the Word. It’s one of the reasons you must have the Word of God in you richly.

Then, how do you respond to the Word? Our theme verse shows us exactly how: it’s by the vocalization of your faith on the basis of what God has already said. Your confession, resulting from your faith in a specific word or statement from God is your response to that Word. That’s what changes your life and circumstances.

For example, the Word says in 1 John 4:4, _*“Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.”*_ Your response should be, “Yes, I am of God and I’ve overcome Satan and the adversities of life, because greater is He that’s in me, than he that’s in the world.” Glory to God! That’s how you activate the power of the Word to produce what it talks about in your life.

*PRAYER*

*Dear Father, thank you for showing me the way to a life of continuous victory. I live above discouragement and the crippling principles of the world. As I speak the Word and respond to the Word in faith, I maintain my victory and dominion in Christ, today and always, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.*

*FURTHER STUDY:* *||* *Romans 10:9-10* That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. 10 with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. *||*

*||* *Hebrews 13:5-6* [Let your] conversation [be] without covetousness; [and be] content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee. 6 So that we may boldly say, The Lord [is] my helper, and I will not fear what man shall do unto me. *||*

The use of smartphones is on the increase and a lot of things and tasks could now be done on your smartphones. These range from the formulation of feeds for chickens to the management of egg sales and production. There are several Android Apps developed for use by poultry farmers for different purposes. Some Apps are exclusively for feed formulation, Health Management or Finance Management while some are “All in One.”

Below are Top 3 Android Apps that you must have on your smartphones as a poultry farmer.

Willie Obiano Wins Anambra Governorship Election 2017
User Avatar Forum: Politics
Posted by: Edoman - 11-19-2017, 05:59 PM - No Replies

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared Governor Willie Obiano of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) as the winner of the November 18, 2017, governorship election in Anambra state
According to INEC, Obiano defeated two major opponents, Tony Nwoye of the All Progressives Congress and Obaze Oseloka of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) to clinch the victory.
As earlier projected by SaharaReporters, Mr. Obiano of the All Progressive Grand Alliance received a total vote of 234,071 to finish ahead of Nwoye of All Progressive Congress who got 98,752
The Governor won with a big margin in key areas of the state including Idemili, Onitsha, Orumba, Ihiala, and Awka.
Mr. Obiano also won in Ogbaru local government, the local government where PDP’s Oseloka with a total vote of 6,615 against 3,415 votes got by Mr. Oseloka.
Mr. Willie Obiano who has been receiving a mixture of praise and criticism from his first term as Governor will continue to drive the state until November 2021 to complete his two terms in office as Governor of Anambra state.
Meanwhile, the gubernatorial election experienced massive vote buying and a low turnout of voters. This made local and international observers conclude that the election was not credible because it was based on who had the most money to spend.

FG Hails Global Endorsement of Nigeria’s Fight Against Terrorism
User Avatar Forum: Politics
Posted by: Edoman - 11-19-2017, 05:54 PM - No Replies

The Federal Government of Nigeria has hailed the recent global endorsement of its fight against terrorism, as contained in the 2017 Global Terrorism Index of the Institute for Economics and Peace (IEP).
In a statement issued in Abuja on Sunday, the Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, expressed delight at the report, which shows that the largest decrease in terrorism deaths globally occurred in Nigeria, where terrorism deaths attributed to Boko Haram
fell by 80% in 2016.
The Minister said it was also encouraging that for the second consecutive year, the total number of deaths is down with a 13% Year-On-Year reduction compared to 2015, with four of the five countries most affected by terrorism – Syria, Pakistan, Afghanistan and Nigeria – recording 33% fewer deaths.
He said the progress that has been made by Nigeria in the fight against terrorism, since President Muhammadu Buhari assumed office in 2015, was duly acknowledged by the Executive Chairman of IEP, Steve Killelea, who was quoted by the report as saying, inter alia: ”The decline of Boko Haram in Nigeria is having a positive ripple effect, with Cameroon, Chad and Niger collectively recording 75% fewer deaths.”
Alhaji Mohammed said Nigeria’s success in the fight against terrorism is a direct result of the leadership provided by President Buhari, who did not just provide the enabling environment for the Nigerian military to regain its lost glory in the fight against terrorism, but
also rallied Nigeria’s neighbours to forge a wide, sub-regional front
against Boko Haram.
”It is fitting, therefore, that the 2017 Global Terrorism Index acknowledges the success recorded by the Multinational Joint Task Force that has been exerting pressure on Boko Haram,” he said. The Minister recalled that President Buhari, in his inaugural speech on the 29th of May 2015, directed the relocation of the command centre of the fight against Boko Haram to Maiduguri, and then followed up
with a shuttle diplomacy that took him to Cameroon, Chad and Niger, and resulted in the rejuvenation of the Multinational Joint Task Force. He congratulated the Nigerian military for its patriotism and sacrifice that have once again made the country a proud member of the
comity of nations.
Alhaji Mohammed said the 2017 Global Terrorism Index will provide a fresh shot in the arm for the Administration to continue its efforts to wipe out the vestige of Boko Haram, and to tackle all other forms of insecurity facing the nation.

SERAP, pensioners drag FG to ECOWAS Court over unpaid pensions, salaries
User Avatar Forum: Retired Forums. Please Make Your Post Within The 3 Forums In General Discussion
Posted by: Edoman - 11-19-2017, 04:26 PM - No Replies

Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP), Federal Civil Service Pensioners Association (FCSA), and Association of Retired Local Government Staff and Primary School Teachers in Delta State have asked the ECOWAS Court of Justice in Abuja to order the federal government led by President Muhammadu Buhari to deduct the pensions, salaries and gratuities of pensioners and workers across several states of Nigeria from the statutory allocations of the indebted state governments and pay same directly to the pensioners and workers on a-monthly basis.” In the suit marked number ECW/CCJ/APP/39/2017 and filed last Friday, the plaintiffs are suing over violations of the human rights of workers and pensioners to equality and equal treatment.
They want immediate payment of all outstanding pensions, salaries and gratuities through deductions from statutory allocations of the indebted state governments, and payment of adequate money compensation of N50 million to each of the pensioners and workers. Other plaintiffs joining SERAP in the suit are: First Bank of Nigeria Pensioners (Lagos); Mrs Comfort C. Owoha; Joseph Agabi; Osemwenkha G.O, and Mrs J.E. Enabunlele. The plaintiffs are suing for themselves and on behalf of their members and other workers and pensioners across the country whose salaries and pensions have not been by the states and Federal Government for several months.
In the suit filed on their behalf by Solicitor to SERAP Femi Falana, the plaintiffs argued that the retirement system in Nigeria violates the right to equal protection of the law and dignity since senior public officials continue to receive “privileged pensions”, salaries and gratuities while the 2nd—7th plaintiffs, their members and several other Nigerian pensioners and workers continue to be denied their entitlements, salaries and gratuities. They also argued that, “Under international law, Nigeria cannot invoke the provisions of its internal laws or the nature of its federation as justification for its failure to perform a treaty obligation. A fundamental rule of the law of State responsibility is that a State cannot escape its responsibility on the international plane by referring to its domestic legal situation.”
The suit read in part: “Ultimately, the Federal Government cannot escape its responsibility to achieve the effective realization of the rights of Nigerian workers and pensioners to timely and regular payment of salaries, entitlements and gratuities, as it retains ultimate responsibility to ensure the rights of workers and pensioners are fully realized.” “Workers and pensioners in several states in Nigeria have been victims of violations of civil and political rights and even more severely, of economic, social, and cultural rights.
The 2nd-7th plaintiffs and their members and other Nigerian pensioners and workers have experienced extreme poverty, discrimination, social exclusion, stigmatization, and deprivation of protections and entitlements on an ongoing basis due primarily to the failure and/or negligence of the Federal Government to ensure that several states of Nigeria pay accrued pensions, salaries and gratuities.
“By granting the reliefs sought, the ECOWAS Court would be recognizing and reiterating the need for the government and its federating units to protect the rights and interests of the vulnerable, disadvantaged, and marginalized groups. “Despite their obligations to protecting the human rights of vulnerable, disadvantaged and marginalized individuals and groups, the government has failed to prevent the systematic violation by several states of the federation of a wide range of human rights as a result of the continuing failure and/or negligence to ensure that the states timely and regularly pay workers’ salaries and pensioners’ entitlements and gratuities.
“The government has failed and/or neglected to ensure the timely payment of over 42 months of outstanding pensions and gratuities in Edo State of Nigeria despite Edo State receiving funds in the form of over N29 billion Paris Club refunds between November 2016 and July 2017 from the government.
“The government has since 2013 failed and/or neglected to ensure payment of accrued pensions and gratuities to about 4000 members of the Association of Retired Local Government Staff and Primary School Teachers in Delta State across 25 Local Government Councils of the State, leaving the pensioners to live in extreme poverty. “Mrs Comfort C. Owoha served for 35 years as staff of the Sokoto State Primary School Board. But payment of her pensions expected to commence in 2001 after verification was inexplicably stopped by the Sokoto State Government. “The government has failed to exercise due diligence, leading to the refusal and failure of the First Bank of Nigeria PLC to pay its pensioners accrued entitlements and gratuities and when pensions and gratuities are paid the Bank pay as low as N11,000, 13,000 as pensions despite the enormous amount in the Banks’s pension fund.
“The government has since December 2014 failed and/or neglected to ensure that Osun State of Nigeria remits monthly pensions deducted from the contributory pensioners. The government has also failed and/or neglected to ensure regular and timely payment of pensions and gratuities in Osun State, and that contributory pensioners have not been paid since January 2015. “The government has failed and/or neglected to pay members of the Federal Civil Service Pensioners Association of Nigeria accrued pensions.
The government continues to engage the Nigeria Union of Pensioners while deliberately sidelining the Federal Civil Service Pensioners Association of Nigeria and its members. The government is failing and/or refusing to ensure payment by several states of Nigeria of workers’ salaries and pensioners’ entitlements, amounting to billions of Naira in arrears. “International human rights treaties to which Nigeria is a state party impose obligations on the government to ensure that economic difficulties and times of severe resource constraints cannot be used to undermine the enjoyment of the human rights of workers and pensioners in Nigeria, and disproportionately hurt them.
“The right to timely and regular payment of pensions and salaries is essential, particularly when a person does not have the necessary property available, or is not able to secure an adequate standard of living through old age or economic and social factors. “According to the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE), 23 states of the federation currently owed workers arrears of salaries ranging from one to 24 months.
The NULGE gave the breakdown of states as follows: Bayelsa State: 10 to 16 months; Kogi State: between seven to 15 months; Delta State: eight to 14 months; Kaduna State:12 months; Oyo State: three to 11 months; and Edo State: 10 months. “Others are Abia State: five to nine months; Kwara State: two to nine months; Benue State: nine months; Nasarawa State: seven months; Ondo, Ekiti, Imo States: six months; while Zamfara State has not implemented minimum wage. Adamawa, Rivers, Akwa Ibom, Ebonyi, Plateau States are owing four months; Taraba and Federal Capital Territory: three months while Osun state has been paying half salaries for 24 months; and staff are owed few months in Enugu State.”
The plaintiffs therefore are asking the ECOWAS Court of Justice for the following reliefs: “A declaration that the continuing failure and/or negligence of the Defendant to promote and ensure timely and regular payment by several states of Nigeria of pensioners’ entitlements and workers’ salaries and gratuities cannot be justified under any circumstances.
“A declaration that the failure and/or negligence of the Defendant to provide an environment necessary for securing and promoting the enjoyment of the human rights of pensioners and workers at the federal level and in several states of Nigeria to equality and equal treatment; equal protection of the law and non-discrimination; to dignity and independence; is unlawful.
“A declaration that the failure of the Defendant to promote and ensure an effective remedy and reparation for pensioners and workers who have continued to suffer due to the non-payment of pensions, salaries and gratuities by several states of Nigeria is unlawful. “A declaration that the refusal of the Defendant to ensure the payment of pensions, salaries, and gratuities of the Plaintiffs is illegal and unlawful.
“An order directing the Defendant to respect, protect, promote, and fulfil the human rights of pensioners and workers to timely and regular payment of pensions, salaries and gratuities and therefore, to equality and equal treatment; equal protection of the law and non-discrimination; to dignity and independence; to the respect of the dignity inherent in a human being; to adequate standard of living and well-being; to property; to work; to family life; and to economic and social development.
“An order directing the Defendant and/or its agents to provide effective remedies and reparation, including adequate compensation, restitution, satisfaction or guarantees of non-repetition that the Honourable Court may deem fit to grant to pensioners and workers that have continued to suffer due to the failure and/or refusal by the Defendant to promote and ensure payment by several states of Nigeria of pensioners’ entitlements and workers’ salaries and gratuities.”

Nigeria issues 11,771 visas in 5 months
User Avatar Forum: Politics
Posted by: Edoman - 11-19-2017, 04:24 PM - No Replies

The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) says it issued 11,771 Visas on Arrival (VOAs) between July and the first week of November. Spokesman of the NIS, Mr Sunday James, made this known in a statement on Sunday. breakdown of the figure shows that 1,604 VOAs were issued in July; 3,732 in August; 1,897 in September; 3,841 in October, and 697 in the first week of November.
James said the statement was in reaction to false claims by some stakeholders in the travel and tourism sector that Nigeria has no VOA programme. According to him, the NIS started issuing VOAs to eligible foreigners entering the country since 2013.
“The Nigerian Visa on Arrival project, which is similar to several other countries, is subject to pre-approval by the Comptroller-General of Immigration and issued at the NIS headquarters in Abuja “From March 2017, the Federal Government approved the introduction of online pre-approval for Visa on Arrival. “This led to the introduction of a dedicated email address (oa@nigeriaimmigration.gov.ng) for attending to VOA requests without visiting the NIS headquarters. “Now, VOAs are issued within 48 hours and the manual option has been virtually eliminated,” he said.
The NIS spokesman added that details of eligibility, requirements, timelines and the application method for VOA had been the subject of several statements by the agency, besides being conspicuously displayed on its website. According to James, applicants arriving with pre-approvals with specified destinations are granted visas at six ports of entry in the country. The ports, he said are Lagos, Abuja, Kano, Port Harcourt, Enugu and Kaduna international airports.
The Visa on Arrival is a category of short visit visa issued at the port of entry. It is available to frequently travelled high net worth investors and intending visitors who may not be able to obtain visa at Nigerian missions/embassies in their countries of residence due to the absence of a Nigerian mission in those countries or exigencies of urgent business travels.

Robert Mugabe On Hunger Strike; Refuses To Eat For 2 Days; Vows To Die

EXCLUSIVE - Mugabe goes on hunger strike: Dictator has been refusing to eat for two days after vowing to 'die for what is correct' while under house arrest at his mansion with his wife by his side
*Zimbabwe President Robert Mugabe has refused to eat since Saturday in a protest against his house arrest
*Mugabe's nephew Patrick Zhuwao said on Saturday that Mr Mugabe was 'willing to die for what is correct'
*Zimbabwe's ruling ZANU-PF party will remove *Mugabe as its leader at a special meeting, officials said Sunday
*The meeting also is expected to reinstate vice president whose firing led the military to step in two weeks ago
*It follows rumours that the dictator had fled the country after hundreds of thousands protested his rule
*Video shows crowds tearing down a billboard of Mugabe outside Zanu-PF headquarters in central Harare
Zimbabwe President Robert Mugabe is refusing to eat in protest against his confinement, one of his close family members has told MailOnline.
The frail 93-year-old has not accepted any food since Saturday, the source revealed, as he continues to be held under house arrest at his Blue Roof mansion.
Mugabe's nephew Patrick Zhuwao said on Saturday that Mr Mugabe was 'willing to die for what is correct'.
A Zanu-PF minister confirmed to MailOnline that Mr Mugabe is also refusing to speak as part of his days-long protest.
'The old man has been trying a lot of various tricks since last night,' the minister, who asked not to be named, said. 'Hunger strikes, making threats and refusing to talk.'
Zimbabwe's ruling ZANU-PF party held a special meeting on its central committee on Sunday to remove Mugabe as its leader and kick him out, Chris Mutsvangwa, the head of the powerful liberation war veterans said.
Also on Sunday, Mugabe is set to discuss his expected exit with army commander Constantino Chiwenga, who put him under the house arrest that he is protesting with a hunger strike.
Mutsvangwa, who has led the campaign to oust Zimbabwe's ruler of the last 37 years, said Zanu-PF's meeting would also reinstate ousted vice-president Emmerson Mnangagwa and remove Mugabe's wife, Grace, as head of the Zanu-PF Women's League.
'We are going all the way,' Mutsvangwa said as he headed into the meeting, adding that Mugabe should just resign and leave the country. 'He's trying to bargain for a dignified exit but he should just smell the coffee and gap it.'
Zanu-PF Central Committee members stood and cheered as the official chairing the emergency meeting announced plans to remove Mugabe from his leadership post on Sunday.
Obert Mpofu told the committee that they were meeting with 'a heavy heart' because Mugabe had served the country and contributed 'many memorable achievements'.
But Mpofu said in his opening remarks that Mugabe's wife 'and close associates have taken advantage of his frail condition' to loot national resources. The party will also discuss reinstating recently fired Vice President Emmerson Mnangagwa.
The army threatened to let a mob lynch the dictator if he didn't stand down, MailOnline revealed on Saturday. Now Mugabe has responded by rejecting all food.
'If he dies under military custody, even by natural causes, then the army will be held responsible by the international community,' the family member, who asked not to be named, said. 'That is how the president is trying to put pressure on the army.'
The family member also said that Grace Mugabe was by her husband's side at the Blue Roof mansion yesterday, and is thought to still be there today.
It comes as the Zanu-PF central committee met at the party HQ in central Harare to begin the formal process for expelling Mr Mugabe from his own party.
The meeting follows rumours that the dictator had fled the country after hundreds of thousands took to the streets to protest against his rule.
Video footage from protests obtained exclusively by MailOnline showed angry crowds tearing down a huge billboard of Mugabe outside the headquarters of the ruling Zanu-PF party in central Harare.
The footage shows dramatic scenes that would have been unthinkable just a few days ago.
While Mugabe could be removed as party leader, his title as president of Zimbabwe would still remain. He can only be removed from his presidency through resignation or impeachment, launched through a constitutional process.
'What is left is just the technical detail of how he's going to leave,' former Zimbabwean finance minister Tendai Biti told Sky News. 'Even if Zanu-PF does remove him - if they do have the power, which i doubt - that doesn't amount to removing him as president of the country.
'There has to be formal processes - either his own resignation or an impeachment.'
The talks with army commander Constantino Chiwenga are the second round of negotiations on an exit with a veneer of dignity as the military tries to avoid accusations of a coup.
Senior figures in Zanu-PF gathered at their headquarters in the capital, Harare, on Sunday ahead of an emergency meeting to discuss calls to expel longtime President Robert Mugabe as party leader.
Soldiers checked vehicles at the gate and a military vehicle parked inside the grounds as leaders converged in the area. The military has Mugabe under house arrest after moving in last week, angered by Mugabe's firing of his longtime deputy.
Impeaching the president is another step when Parliament resumes Tuesday, and lawmakers will “definitely” put the process in motion, the main opposition’s parliamentary chief whip told The Associated Press.
Zanu-PF moved forward with the process of formally expelling Mr Mugabe from the party after all ten of Zimbabwe's provinces passed no-confidence motions against him on Friday.
Innocent Gonese with the MDC-T party said they had been in discussions with the ruling ZANU-PF party to act jointly.
Gonese said of the talks: 'If Mugabe is not gone by Tuesday, then as sure as the sun rises from the east, impeachment process will kick in.'
The MDC-T has unsuccessfully tried to impeach Mugabe in the past, but now the ruling party has turned against him.
The youth league of Zanu-PF called for Mugabe to resign and take a rest as an 'elder statesman', while his wife, Grace, should be expelled from the party 'forever.'
Youth league leader Yeukai Simbanegavi praises the military for moving against what she describes as a group of 'criminals' led by Grace Mugabe.
'It is unfortunate that the president allowed her to usurp executive authority from him, thereby destroying both the party and the government,' Simbanegavi said at ruling party headquarters on Sunday.
She said the youth league also wants the reinstatement of Emmerson Mnangagwa, a former vice president whose firing by Mugabe followed harsh criticism by Zimbabwe's first lady.
The army has also brought intense pressure to bear upon the 93-year-old, threatening to stand aside and allow him to be lynched if he does not stand down soon, a senior politician told MailOnline.
Mutsvangwa that that he is concerned that the military could end up opening fire to protect Mugabe from protesters. He says there will be more demonstrations like the massive one Saturday if Mugabe's negotiations with the military on his departure from power don't end soon.

Robert Mugabe Sacked By Zanu-PF, Replaced By Emmerson Mnangagwa

Embattled Zimbabwean president Robert Mugabe was on Sunday deposed as the leader of ruling Zanu-PF party, and replaced by his former deputy Emmerson Mnangagwa.
His wife Grace Mugabe was also expelled from the party and banned for life.
Mugabe on Sunday met with the army commander who put him under house arrest, while the ruling party opened an emergency meeting to recall the world's oldest head of state as its leader.
Zimbabwe's ruling party Central Committee members stood and cheered at the decision.
Minister of Home Affairs Obert Mpofu said that they met with "a heavy heart" because Mugabe, 93, had served the country and contributed "many memorable achievements."

He added that Mugabe's wife "and close associates have taken advantage of his frail condition" to loot national resources.
Mugabe's hold on power was broken this week when the military took over in a dispute over who would succeed him.
"President Robert Mugabe will meet the command element of the Zimbabwe Defence Forces tomorrow," state television announced on Saturday.
The two sides first met for talks on Thursday, smiling in photographs that attempted to present a dignified image of the tense process of negotiating Mugabe's departure.
In scenes of public euphoria not seen since independence in 1980, huge crowds marched and sang their way through Harare and other cities on Saturday, demanding the end of Mugabe's authoritarian rule.
The marches came after a historic week in which the military seized power and put Mugabe under house arrest in response to his sacking of Mnangagwa, a perceived rival of Mugabe's powerful 52-year-old wife Grace who had increasingly voiced her ambition to succeed her spouse.

Methodist Church Appoints First Transgender Minister, 46 Years Old Joy Everingham
User Avatar Forum: Other Stories
Posted by: Gimbiya - 11-19-2017, 02:20 PM - No Replies

University chaplain has become the Methodist Church's first transgender minister after hiding her true identity for more than four decades.

Joy Everingham, 46, spent years secretly applying lipstick and wearing women's clothes before finally coming out three years ago.

She first announced that she planned to transition while training to become a minister, before becoming ordained last summer.

It is the first time a transgender person has been appointed as a minister in the church with the church's knowledge.

The mother-of-two from Canterbury, Kent, says she first knew she was different aged just five, and 'didn't fit in with everyone else'.

She said: "I wasn't like the boys, I was always more like the girls.

"My dad used to joke 'I've got three kids, one of each', so I was obviously different - I couldn't hide it.

"I went through my teenage years trying to be as boyish as possible. It always felt really disjointed, so I hid.

"If I'd admitted how I really felt at secondary school I think I would have been beaten with sticks.

"I'd put make-up on, put my mum's shoes on. It was liberating, but at the same time I felt dirty, and I felt wrong.

"I felt like I was the only person in the world who was like that."

Aged 15, Joy became a Christian, which she says was life-changing.

Four years later, she started dating her best friend of six years, Ruth, and the pair married when she was 22.

For eight years, Ruth was oblivious to the secret life her husband was living, unaware he was hiding clothes in the loft and continuing to dress as a woman.

But shortly after the birth of their first son, Joy, 27, travelled to Leeds on a secret trip to a transgender club, and it proved to be a defining moment in her journey.

She added: "It made me realise it wasn't going to go away. I felt so at ease with myself. I felt normal.

"Coming back to the hotel that night I was thinking 'I don't want to take 'me' off'.

"I didn't want to go back to being what I what was. I knew I had to tell Ruth.

"We were sitting in bed and said 'I've got something to tell you'.

"I started crying and couldn't breathe - it was probably the hardest thing I've ever done.

"Ruth was convinced I was either having an affair, or I was gay, it was obviously a bit of a shock.

"I thought she was going to leave me, or kick me out, but she said 'I've got to think about this'."

Much to Joy's relief, Ruth was prepared to help her explore her identity, but she said she would leave if Joy transitioned.

Trump Adds Five Conservatives To List Of Possible Supreme Court Picks
[Image: supreme%2Bcourt.jpg]
In a move certain to please conservatives, President Donald Trump on Friday added five names to his list of candidates for a prospective U.S. Supreme Court vacancy as he presses ahead with a campaign to move the federal judiciary to the right.

Two of them are appellate judges who were nominated by Trump earlier this year and confirmed by the Senate: Amy Coney Barrett and Kevin Newsom. Another, Brett Kavanaugh, sits on the U.S. Court of Appeals in Washington, long viewed as a stepping-stone to the high court.

The others were Britt Grant, a Georgia Supreme Court justice, and Patrick Wyrick, a Oklahoma Supreme Court justice.

There is no current vacancy on the U.S. Supreme Court but three justices are 79 or older.

During his presidential campaign last year, Trump identified 20 conservative candidates for the Supreme Court. Upon taking office, he named Neil Gorsuch to the court to replace the late Justice Antonin Scalia, restoring the Supreme Court’s conservative majority. Gorsuch was confirmed by the Senate in April and has established himself as one of the Supreme Court’s most conservative justices.

Speaking at a Federalist Society conference of conservative legal advocates, White House Counsel Donald McGahn said Trump is “very committed” to appointing judges who are “committed originalists and textualists,” referring to a legal philosophy that relies on the actual wording of laws and the original meaning of the U.S. Constitution.

“They all have paper trails. They all are sitting judges. There is nothing unknown about them. What you see is what you get,” McGahn said.

The five jurists, all with strong conservative credentials, were added to the list with input from conservative leaders, and should another seat on the court open up, Trump will nominate a candidate from the updated list of 25, the White House said.

Leonard Leo, an advisor to the president on Supreme Court nominations, said Trump thought it was time to refresh the original list. “When you’re committed to picking from a list you want to make sure it’s as complete as possible,” Leo said in an interview.

Kavanaugh, who was appointed to the federal bench in 2006 by Republican former President George W. Bush, served as a White House counsel under Bush and worked as an assistant to Kenneth Starr, the independent counsel who investigated Democratic former President Bill Clinton during the Monica Lewinsky scandal.

Grant and Wyrick both joined state challenges to the Affordable Care Act, Democratic former President Barack Obama’s signature healthcare law, and Obama regulations aimed at reducing emissions from coal-burning power plants, said Carrie Severino, chief counsel of the Judicial Crisis Network, a conservative legal advocacy group.

KENNEDY IS PIVOTAL JUSTICE

The court currently consists of five conservatives and four liberals, with conservative Justice Anthony Kennedy sometimes joining with the liberals on high-profile issues such as gay rights and abortion.

At 81, Kennedy is the second-oldest justice on the court behind liberal Ruth Bader Ginsburg, 84, and some former Kennedy clerks have said he is considering retirement. Liberal Justice Stephen Breyer is 79.

Should any of those step down, Trump would get a historic opportunity to shape the court in a more conservative direction for decades to come. Supreme Court appointments are lifetime jobs.

Conservatives criticize the federal judiciary as too liberal, and Attorney General Jeff Sessions at the same conference lashed out at “activist judges.”

Trump already has taken steps to make the federal judiciary more conservative, with 14 judicial appointees already confirmed by the Senate and more in the pipeline.

Catherine Glenn Foster, president of the anti-abortion advocacy group Americans United for Life, said she was pleased with the new selections. “From their known records they tend to be strong on recognizing the protections for life,” she said in an interview.

On Friday, Republican Alabama Governor Kay Ivey said she would support her party’s Senate candidate Roy Moore, who has been accused by several women of unwanted sexual contact, because of the importance of keeping the Senate under Republican control should another Supreme Court vacancy arise.

Bini, not Yoruba, are original owners of Lagos – Ajayi-Bembe
User Avatar Forum: Politics

A former President of the Association of Lagos State Indigenes, Chief Layi Ajayi-Bembe, in this interview with BAYO AKINLOYE says the real owners of Lagos are the Bini, not the Yoruba

What is your lineage as a Lagosian?
My grandfather was Ajayi Bembe; the eighth Obanikoro of Lagos – my father was the last of his children. My mother was the first child of Gbajabiamila (of Olowogbowo fame) – of course, of Lagos. When it comes to the ownership of Lagos, it is sad when people talk about Lagos being no man’s land or Lagos being part of Yoruba land – I consider that position to be an abomination. Yes, because of the affinity or geographical location of Lagos, we’re nearer to the South-West (the Yoruba) than to other regions. It should be stated that Lagos has always been independent of the West. When I returned from England, (Chief Obafemi) Awolowo was in prison; before I came back to Nigeria, there had been agitations that Lagos wasn’t part of the West. No doubt that a lot of us speak Yoruba – in my family, we’re Bini. Oba of Lagos (Rilwan Akiolu) was completely right that the early settlers in Lagos were the Awori and the Bini. We’re talking about the Island of Lagos.
Extending it to the east of Lagos, you have Oshodi, the Tapa (from Niger State) were there. And, of course, we knew one another. I don’t understand why some of our brothers in the West think that we can be enslaved by them. In all my years, I have not seen what Afenifere has done for Lagos to inspire me because during the last constitutional conference, they were not talking about Lagos; they were talking about themselves. Don’t forget that the so-called Edo State was part of the West before. But to say Lagos is part of Yoruba land is not fair; it is not charitable. And when kabiyesi now said, Lagos is Bini, not only because we came from Benin, there are signs and relics of Benin all over Isale Eko. And obas (in Lagos) – we don’t call them ‘obas’, we call them ‘eleko’. My grandfather said in 1903 that when there was a dispute of which traditional rulers should wear crowns – my grandfather was at that meeting. Ooni of Ife had to come all the way from Ife to Lagos upon the invitation of Governor (John Hawley) Glover. And the question they asked him (Ooni) was, ‘Who are the obas that should wear crowns?’ He mentioned them – Lagos was not part of the list. We don’t wear crowns in Lagos. I remember, Pa Edegbele – that’s Prof. Edegbele’s father – when he said ‘oba’ is alien to Yoruba land that only the Bini use that title, there was a furore over that. But Edegbele was right. Note that politicians have done a lot of havoc in Yoruba land more than in other regions of the country. Nobody is going to doubt the hegemony of the Sultan of Sokoto in the North. But the Yoruba are fond of creating problems among themselves in Yoruba land. Permit me to digress: look at the recent installation of some kings in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital. A governor created 21 kings, for what? Is that what the people need at a time when the masses are hungry, civil servants are owed salaries and basic amenities are not available? It now appears there are more rulers than the ruled.

Are you saying Lagos belongs to the Bini people?
Lagos belongs to us – the Bini. When you get to Enuowa, they (the inhabitants) pay homage to Oba of Benin there. Enuowa is in Lagos; Idumota is like a Bini name; Iduntafa is Bini name; Idunmagbo is Bini name; Iduganran is Bini name; tell me, what further proof do you want (that the Bini own Lagos)? Why have some people tried hard to erode our identity and the labour of our ancestors? Today, if you go to the Lagos State Secretariat, you’ll hardly see the original indigenes of the state hold a prominent position. So, why are people crying about the quota system? You don’t ‘quotarise’ knowledge. Whatever is the case, I believe that the indigenes of Lagos – by the way, I was president of Association of Lagos Indigenes for almost 15 years – we know how our resources were plundered and carted away. Look at the fiasco called ‘Lagos @50’. The state government doesn’t recognise the true indigenes of Lagos State. Some of the indigenes work with them for the purpose of getting whatever they can get from the government. Some people are trying so hard to maintain the stupidity that Lagos doesn’t belong to anybody – that’s annoying.
What about Alhaji Femi Okunnu’s view of the Awori being the original owners of Lagos?
I am not a lawyer but Femi Okunnu is a lawyer – a Senior Advocate of Nigeria for that matter. On the issue of the original owners of Lagos, my attention was drawn to an article focused on the Idunganran celebration. Mr. Femi Okunnu happened to be my mentor; he was an inspiration to me particularly when I returned from England. He was not only elder ‘brother’ to me because we lived close together. They were living at No. 1 Ido Olowu Street and I was living at No. 7 Ido Olowu Street. I have known him for a long time. I remember when he came back from England as a young and vibrant lawyer. When Femi Okunnu himself was the Federal Commissioner for Works during the military regime, he was the one who actually acquired the area where you have the National Theatre, Iganmu. From whom did he acquire it? He got it from the indigenes; my grandfather had a place there. We must have a good perspective of history. People should learn not to mutilate history. The owners of Lagos are not the Yoruba; they are the Bini. We are Bini; there’s no ambiguity about that. To prove it further, the obas or the elekos, when they died, their bodies were taken to Benin for burial for a time. Tell me, who owns the land then?
Who are the Awori? The Awori and the Bini are the same. If an Awori spoke to me when I was young, I understood him. My parents spoke Awori. The Awori are partly from Dahomey and partly from Benin. My forebears came from the riverine area through the Bight of Benin and settled in Badagry for a long time before moving down to Lagos. And when they moved down to Lagos where did they go? They went to Idunsagbe – a place famed for Bini culture and tradition. I am an Awori. Tell me, which state did they create for the Awori now? If you say the indigenous people of Lagos State are the Awori, then the Awori are the Bini. We must put history in its right perspective. The right perspective is that Lagos does not belong to the Yoruba; it belongs to the Bini. According to the Lyttleton Constitution, the West was created; the North was created and Lagos was made a colony and it later regained its independence.
Some may argue that the original Lagosians didn’t protect their legacy, allowing every Tom, Dick and Harry to hold sway politically and economically.
It is true that Lagos is open to everybody that could bring ideas. But when it comes to certain elements within the political spectrum in Nigeria… Look at it this way, will it surprise you that a representative of Lagos who calls himself a Lagosian representing the state in the National Assembly went to Kogi State to vie for the governorship? Isn’t that insulting? Some are even saying once (Osun State Governor, Rauf) Aregbesola has completed his tenure in Osun, he will come back to Lagos to contest a senatorial seat. We called Bola Tinubu, sat him down and told him how we accepted him and he let us down. I know the role I played when Bola Tinubu was coming in; when I gave him my second cousin, (Musiliu) Obanikoro to go along with him (I don’t talk to that one (Obanikoro) again after he had his hand in something embarrassing; because you don’t disgrace your family). I am not looking for anything from them. It is very wrong that people should trivialise the affairs of Lagos. For example, we kicked against (Prof. Wole) Soyinka being made the chairman of the Lagos @50 celebration. But nobody listened to us. Look at the fiasco; was it a success? Who bothered about it? People who will not celebrate the living are celebrating the dead – it doesn’t go beyond that. You acquire land from me for a public purpose and the next thing you did was to share it with your siblings, friends and other loved ones. It is really sad for people to proclaim Lagos as no man’s land. Lagos is so accommodating; it is only here you see an Igbo man being made a commissioner. Even the Yoruba that are shouting, how many Lagosians are in their cabinets? They all live in Lagos; we know them. Some of them benefitted from the liberty Lagos offers. But ask them: what have they done for their host communities? Can you imagine Orji Kalu, who bought land here, saying Lagos belongs to nobody? They just talk.
Don’t you think Prof. Wole Soyinka deserved to have been the chairman of the Lagos @50 celebration?
I am not used to Soyinka and I don’t want to be acquainted with him. It is unfortunate that because he was made the chairman of Lagos @50, he began to insult people, claiming that his father had a land in Lagos. We traced the land – one plot of land – and discovered that the land was bought from my grandfather. People like him go around insulting others. Has he not insulted Femi Okunnu before? Tell me who Wole Soyinka has never insulted? He is part of the Tinubu group. Is he not an Ogun man? I don’t think he has a right to say that Lagos is no man’s land. Who is he to say that? I think Okunnu knew better; I don’t think he meant what he said the way the press reported him. What he said is that Lagos is ‘part’ of Yoruba land; he didn’t say it was owned by the Yoruba. We need to be discreet in our definition. Geographically, we’re in the West and culturally, we speak Yoruba. If an Igbo man speaks Yoruba fluently, does that make him a Yoruba? Go to Lagos State House of Assembly and count how many of them are truly Lagos indigenes. Again, Okunnu was an active participant in the creation of Lagos State together with (Philip) Asiodu and Alison Ayida. They facilitated the creation of the state; there was a western state then. If Okunnu had advocated the merger of Lagos with the western region then, one would have thought otherwise. Wole Soyinka didn’t want Lagos to be created at that time. Soyinka used to be very radical but having got into the group of Bola Tinubu’s scientific imposition, he has been mellowing down. Soyinka would be the one that would stand for the truth when people were accused of certificate forgery and other ills. He was always at the forefront; he has become a turncoat. What happened to him? I respected him; he may not know me and he doesn’t need to know me.
So, you think Okunnu is on the same page with you when he talked about the early settlers of Lagos?
I believe Okunnu was actually agitating for the indigenes. He was president of Lagos State indigenes before me – we have Isale Eko Descendants Union, which we all belong to. All I am saying is this: Lagos is not part of Yoruba. The settlers are Bini. Wasn’t Benin part of the West before until the Mid-West was created? The Bini agitated for that, insisting that we’re not part of the Yoruba. Why can’t the Yoruba leave us alone for God’s sake? My grandfather went to court in 1889 to claim all the lands that belonged to him. He got a judgment. Then some people said, these lands were too much for one family – the place now called Ikorodu Road, they acquired it – for how much? For £27,000! My grandfather wasn’t around; he’s dead. But they forgot that this man gave them a land to build the first police barracks in Lagos. How could Bola Tinubu come all the way from wherever he came from (Kafaru brought him to me, turn Lagos into a place for Osun people in the secretariat). They’re radicalising the owners of Lagos with the way they’re acting. By the time they stand up you’ll be shocked. What are the people asking for? Give them what they deserve. Show them some respect. Okunnu did a lot for Lagos State; most parts of Victoria Island were sand-filled by the Federal Government. He and his colleagues at King’s College were able to excise Victoria Island and gave it to Lagos. In fact, Okunnu has done more for Lagos than any governor. Okunnu had his roots in Isale Eko.

Viral result belongs to carpenter converted to teacher — Kaduna NLC
User Avatar Forum: Politics

The Chairman of the Kaduna State chapter of the Nigeria Labour Congress, Adamu Ango, speaks with BAYO AKINLOYE about the ongoing face-off between Governor Nasir el-Rufai’s government and primary school teachers in the state
Have the Nigeria Labour Union and the Nigeria Union of Teachers been able to meet with the Kaduna State Governor, Nasir el-Rufai, since the crisis involving the sacking of civil servants began?
The issue is that the Kaduna State Government has not opened its doors to organised Labour, including the Nigeria Union of Teachers. The government has neither been meeting nor listening to us. We have written several letters to the government but we got no acknowledgement. So, in the first place, it is the officials of government that have failed to meet with us despite our efforts to work with them. We only hear or read about government policies in the electronic and print media. To date, there has been no response from the government of Kaduna State to sit down with us to resolve the matter. Since its inception, this government has not been communicating with Labour. They are anti-labour; anything that has to do with Labour, the government is not interested.
Apart from the teachers’ competency test, what other issues does the NLC in Kaduna State have with the government?

First, there is no recognition for the NLC in Kaduna State. Secondly, the government thinks we are not up to the standard of people the government should be meeting with. Thirdly, several letters – we’ve lost count of them – that we’ve written to the government have not been acted upon. Again, when we meet with government representatives and agree on something at the end of the day, it is something else that the government will carry out. For example, the issue of the primary school teachers, we were part of a committee that sat down with the government to decide on how the test should be conducted. The so-called competency test had been conducted more than twice in the past – the examination had been organised about four times. At every point that each of the exams was conducted and the government felt that it could not pick holes in it, it would ask the teachers to repeat the exam.
In the last examination, the teachers passed, but unilaterally the governor raised the pass mark to 75 per cent. In the committee that was set up prior to the exam, which included the Secretary to the State Government and other labour leaders, it was agreed that 60 per cent should be the pass mark. It is also vital to mention that it is the same government that met with the Local Education Authority and asked carpenters, plumbers, cleaners and others to teach in the classroom or else they would lose their jobs. You can see why some teachers failed the examination. Even the result that was posted online by the governor via his Twitter handle, was that of an O’Level certificate holder, who was a carpenter but later posted to teach in a school. How do you expect such a guy to pass the examination? Besides, the examination was not credible. We told the government that they have no authority to test any teacher because there is a regulatory body saddled with that responsibility – the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria. But because of the hidden agenda of the government to sack workers, they went ahead to conduct the test.
Why didn’t the NLC and NUT object to the test being conducted?
If we had objected to the test being conducted, the government would have gone public to blackmail us that we were harbouring quacks or teachers that are not qualified in the classrooms.  That was why we allowed the state government to conduct the test. Again, this is Nigeria; the economic situation of the country is bad. The government has been playing pranks on us. It is difficult to get the teachers and other civil servants to listen to the union. We had told the teachers not to sit for the examination. But the government came out to say that those that did not sit for the exam would not be paid their salaries. We didn’t want a situation whereby only teachers, who sat for the test, would be paid. But look at what is happening now; the government isn’t seeing anything wrong in their action. No matter how good something is, if it is against the law, it is illegal. What the government did was to rubbish the teachers. We have no alternative than to resort to legal intervention – we have taken the matter to the (National) Industrial Court in Kaduna. Our national leaders, that is, the NLC, have taken up the matter. On Thursday, we had a National Executive Council meeting on issues concerning the teachers and local government workers.
As I speak with you, if the government is not thinking of retrenching workers, it has not resolved the teachers’ crisis. They brought a list of local government workers who are pencilled down to be sacked, almost 6,000. The government is not trying to raise the standards of education or raise the morale of civil servants in Kaduna State, but rather to retrench workers. Maybe, it is one of the conditions the government has to meet to get a World Bank loan. Some of the teachers the government is planning to sack, have one or two years to spend in service before their retirement; they are senior teachers. The salary of one of these teachers can pay for about five new teachers the government wants to employ – it’s a ploy to cut cost. It is not about addressing the fallen standard of education in the state.
Does it not bother you that some teachers failed what Governor el-Rufai called Primary-Four examination?
The government is saying that the examination questions set for the teachers were that of Primary Four pupils. But let me tell you categorically that the questions were not for Primary Four pupils; can you ask a Primary Four pupil ‘what is a lesson plan’? Can you ask a Primary Four pupil to explain ‘what does child mental education mean?’ The government’s efforts were to portray the teachers in a bad light. Again, I can tell you that those who failed the test were not the real teachers – they’re the carpenters, plumbers and cleaners employed by the government. Kaduna State Government isn’t sincere in its approach concerning this matter. Let them bring to the open all the scripts and the truth will be made clear. Nevertheless, I am not saying that there are teachers who are not qualified in the system. But those teachers who are not qualified were sent to the classroom by the government even though we objected to that move – the government insisted that they should either go to the classroom or be laid off. The government makes no consultations; it makes and takes decisions as it wishes. But this isn’t a military government. We’ve never had it this bad in Kaduna; the government is insincere in every facet of life in Kaduna.
Besides teachers and local government workers, other civil servants are also pencilled down for sacking. There is a letter emanating from the office of the governor, instructing all MDAs to cut down the number of their staff. The government isn’t interested in changing things for the better in the state. We supported this government to assume power, hoping that it would change things for the better, but what are we getting in return for our support? It is not a government that is transparent; it is not a government that is listening; it is not a government that treats people as humans and gives them the respect that God created them with.
That sounds like arrogance. Isn’t it?
Yes, in a way. You should understand that it is very important that one exercises some moral restraint talking about a leader. You cannot look at your leader and say he is arrogant, or, say he’s a liar. But the government has not been living up to expectations of the people. Let me tell you: even all the traditional title holders in the state are also being treated in a curious way by the state. The government has asked all the traditional title holders to re-apply. This government has missed it. They’re not listening to the candid advice of the people. My sense is that the government should have called a stakeholders’ meeting to address issues being faced in the education sector. The present government, under the leadership of Mallam Nasir el-Rufai, thinks that it knows everything and nobody can tell it anything. But that’s a mistake; there’s nobody who knows everything.
If you try to bring anything to their notice, they’ll tell you, ‘are we not your employer? We dictate?’ The government operates a master-servant relationship, but being called a civil servant doesn’t make anybody a slave. It is the thinking of this government that everybody in the employment of the state government is a servant and can be treated anyhow; they can even ask you to do some unthinkable chores for their wives. But going forward, we’re going to do everything possible within the law to kick against this treatment. We have taken the first step by going to the industrial court. A teacher is a professional and a professional body has a regulatory institution that directs its affairs. Our stance is ‘no retreat, no surrender’. The examination results must be cancelled. The examination is a scam.

Zimbabweans To March As Mugabe's Future In The Balance

Zimbabweans To March As Mugabe's Future In The Balance
[Image: MUGABE%2B.R.jpg]
Zimbabwe was set for more political turmoil Saturday with protests planned as veterans of the independence war, activists and ruling party leaders called publicly for President Robert Mugabe to be forced from office.

The marches will cap an unprecedented week in which generals seized power and put Mugabe under house arrest in a stunning turnaround for the president who has ruled since 1980.

The 93-year-old autocrat did not resign in talks with the army chief on Thursday and sources suggested the veteran leader was "buying time" to negotiate an end to his 37 year reign.

Cornelius Mupereri, a spokesman for ZANU-PF's Midlands region, was one of several party barons to appear on ZBC's nightly news to read almost identical statements calling on Mugabe to quit.

- 'It's done, it's finished' -

Chris Mutsvangwa, chairman of the independence war veterans' association, said "the game is up" for Mugabe and announced street protests against the president.

"It's done, it's finished... The generals have done a fantastic job," he said at a press conference in Harare.

"We want to restore our pride and (Saturday) is the day... we can finish the job which the army started."

The veterans' association supports ousted vice president Emmerson Mnangagwa -- whose sacking sparked the army intervention on Tuesday.

Demonstrators had begun to arrive in the area by midnight local time.

The US embassy in Harare warned its citizens to avoid another protest -- thought to be a pro-Mugabe counter-demonstration -- expected to take place in Robert Mugabe Square in the centre of the capital.

Other demonstrations are expected elsewhere in the country on Saturday.

- 'The same regime' -

Pastor Evan Mawarire, an outspoken Mugabe critic who rose to prominence last year with his #ThisFlag protest movement challenging the president over the economic crisis, called on Zimbabweans of all backgrounds to march with the war veterans.

"The citizens are joining hands across political divides... across ideological divides," he said in a live broadcast on Facebook.

"Once things stabilise, once Mugabe is out of the way, we also want them out as well -- they are from the same regime," said Matthew Chakanetsa, a 35-year-old taxi driver.

Despite appeals for Zimbabweans to turn out in force, it remained unclear whether demonstrators would heed the calls in a country where public protest has previously been violently suppressed.

But a video emerged late on Friday of activists in the second city Bulawayo apparently offering free transport to Harare for residents eager to join Saturday's march.

- 'We are not waiting' -

Zimbabwe's military chiefs said in statement Friday they had detained some "criminals" in Mugabe's government after their lightning power grab which appeared to be the climax of a dispute over who would succeed the veteran leader. They did not give any indication about whether Mugabe would remain head of state.

The United States has called for the Zimbabwe army to quickly relinquish power.

"We all should work together for a quick return to a civilian rule," said US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson ahead of talks with African foreign ministers.

Mugabe critic Mawarire, whose strike action in July 2016 was violently put down by security forces, added "we have to fight for ourselves".

"This time around, we are not waiting."

I had three options; The chief typist, senior or his junior typist. I picked the unqualified junior typist, here is why"- Professor Yemi Osinbajo
While I was teaching at the University of Lagos, as a young lecturer, in the department of Public Law in the Faculty of Law, there were 3 typists in the department. The chief typist, senior typist, and the junior typist. Because in those days before laptops and personal computers, typists in universities had to do a lot of work and they were very important because you always needed to type all your materials.
When there was work to do, what l discovered was that the chief typist would
disappear. He works only till 4 pm. The senior typist would be nowhere to be found. But a gentleman called Adereni the junior typist, who only had his school certificate, was remarkably hard working. Sometimes I would drop him off at his home at 1am.
Years after I was working as an adviser to the then Attorney-General of the Federation Hon. Bola Ajibola, who later became a judge of the World Court. While in the court at The Hague, in the Netherlands, one day he called me and asked if I could recommend a good secretary who is hard working and could do long judgments. I had three options, chief typist, senior or this junior typist, but the junior typist at a time had only school certificate, he didn’t have any other qualification but l choose him. He got to the Hague, and typically worked hard and diligently. Every judge in the court wanted him to work with them. He later moved his family over to the Hague and got degrees and made a good living for himself. One day he remembered me and actually sent me a car.
Remember, whether you are hardworking or diligent in what you are doing or not, someone is always watching.

25-Year-Old Man Marries 91-Year-Old Great-Aunt For A Special REASON
[Image: Man%2Bmarries%2B91-year-old%2Bgreat-aunt...Bdeath.jpg]
A 25-year-old man from Argentina named, Mauricio Ossola has married his 91-year-old great-aunt, so he could collect a widower’s pension after she dies, Mirror UK, reports.

Mauricio Ossola, moved in with his great aunt Yolanda in the city of Salta, north-west Argentina, eight years ago after his parents split up. He, his mother, her brother and his grandmother shared a home with the elderly woman in the neighbourhood of Tres Cerritos, and apparently got along very well that soon Yolanda agreed to marry him so that he could collect a widower’s pension after she was gone.

The then 23-year-old had told the woman that he planned to quit his law studies due to financial constraints, and she assured him that she would do everything she can to make sure he graduates.

The young man recently admitted to reporters that he was the one who proposed they get married and that she accepted.

“I said to Yolanda after the separation of my parents: ‘Look Ulita, I’m going to have to abandon my studies’. Those were the circumstances that led to us getting married,” Mauricio said. “Yolanda insisted I had to finish my studies.  She would say to me, ‘I’m going to help you because you always take care of me, you go with me to the doctor’s and you’re always helping me with my problems’. After some time had gone by, I asked her what she would think if I asked her to marry me.”

According to Oddity Central, soon after the bizarre union, Yolanda passed away from sepsis, and the 25-year-old applied for a widower’s pension, to fulfill his late wife’s/great-aunt’s wish. Unfortunately, things did not go as smoothly as he had hoped, as social services denied his request after the 91-year-old woman’s neighbours told them that they knew nothing about the marriage.

However, Ossola insists that his union to his great-aunt was perfectly legal and he will fight the decision to reject his application for the pension even if he has to go all the way to Argentina’s Supreme Court.

“I loved Yolanda in the purest way you can love someone and that feeling, along with the pain her loss caused me, will remain with me for the rest of my life,” he said.

Mother and daughter birth babies for same man, same month
[Image: mothers.png]
Mum has forgiven her daughter, for the sake of the babies. South African lady, 38, Mildred Mashego and her 19-year-old daughter, 19-year-old Patricia Mashego gave birth to babies for same man, with just 4 days apart; first the daughter, then the mother.
Mildred allegedly got very angry after she learnt that her daughter was pregnant for her father of 3 boyfriend, Vincent Malumane,  and reportedly considered aborting the
baby after she found out the truth.
Malumane who admitted having an affair with the mother and daughter behind their backs, said;

I cannot go back now and explain what happened. All we have to do is focus on making sure that the children are properly cared for,” said the man.
The ladies welcomed healthy boys, making the children brothers, a nephew, an uncle and a grandson, as it was gathered that the aggrieved mother has forgiven her daughter for the sake of her grandson.

More Than 30 Rescued In Afghan Raid On Taliban Prison
[Image: More%2Bthan%2B30%2Brescued%2Bin%2BAfghan...prison.jpg]
Afghan and foreign special forces raided a Taliban prison in southern Helmand province on Sunday and rescued at least 30 people, according to army and provincial officials.

Those rescued in the raid in Helmand’s Nawzad district included four children under the age of 12 and two policemen, the officials said. Twenty of the people had been arrested by the Taliban in connection with helping the government or were family members of Afghan army and police.

The reasons for the jailing of six of those rescued was still being investigated, said Abdul Qadir Bahadurzai, a deputy spokesman for the army’s 215th Maiwand military corps.

The Taliban said in a statement that the people rescued were criminals accused of robbery, kidnapping, personal disputes and other crimes and were awaiting trial.

“There wasn’t anyone belonging to the enemy in that prison and there wasn’t enough security for it,” Taliban spokesman Qari Yousuf Ahmadi said in the statement.

NDDC: Board’s tenure ends December, Ijaw leader insists

The Senior Special Assistant on Special Duties to Bayelsa State Government, Mr. Godday Smith, has said the tenure of the present Board of Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC board, ends by this December, anything contrary is a negation of President Muhammadu Buhari’s anti-corruption fight.
Smith, who spoke in Warri, said “ the former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, in July 16, 2015, dissolved the NDDC board led by Senator Bassey Ewa-Henshaw, a slot zoned to Cross River State, and by the virtue of sections 2, 3 and 5 of the NDDC Establishment Act, the Senator Bassey Ewa-Henshaw-led Board had a mandatory four years tenure from December 16, 2013 to December 15, 2017, but after the dissolution of the board in July 2015, another person from Cross River, Senator Ndoma Egba was appointed to complete the chairmanship slot zoned to Cross River, while Akwa Ibom retained the Managing Director’s position to complete same, Delta State retained the Executive Director, Projects to complete same, therefore, the present board cannot be said to be a fresh one”.
According to him, “ by the NDDC Act, no single state in Niger Delta is entitled to hold a board position more than four years, its rotates among the producing states”.
President Muhammadu should not be misled to believe that the present board has a fresh tenure of four years, this is a mockery of the FG’s anti-corruption fight”.
Smith further called on President Muhammadu Buhari and Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Gida Mustapha to dissolve the present NDDC board, and nominate the Chairman from Delta State and Managing Director from Bayelsa State, respectively, to constitute the new board.

Anambra Election Update: PDP scribe Ben Obi loses ward to APGA
User Avatar Forum: Politics

B ase on report reaching us, which revealed that the interim national secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Ben Obi, lost his ward to the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in Saturday’s Anambra governorship election.
There was wild jubilation as APGA emerged clear winner of the four polling units, garnering 69, 63, 27, 34 to relegate the All Progressives Congress (APC) with 47, 33, 22, 10 and PDP with 35, 33, 31, 8 to the first and second runners-up.
Speaking earlier before casting his vote, Sen Obi, had expressed mixed feelings that though his party had done vigorous campaign to win the election, the incumbency factor would certainly be a big issue in deciding the final outcome of the election.
Dismissing his influence on the electorates in his senatorial districts, some of the voters said that PDP would have won the Ward landslide if he had related very well with them.
Reacting to the election, Sen Obi said: “I have been receiving reactions from the state by virtue of my position as the national secretary of the party and it has been very successful so far. It has been encouraging. I am impressed with the idea of accrediting and voting immediately by the INEC.
“From the reports, it has been orderly so far regarding the voting exercise. There has been no problems. PDP has gone very well in its campaign and you know that it has been searching for power since 2003. The party has good candidate and it is a party on ground but we are faced with the incumbency factor. We recognized that but it may not count because PDP lost election even with power of incumbency,” he said.
Reacting to the monetary inducements of the electorates, Sen Obi said though he has not seen dough in his ward, it should be discouraged in its entirety.
Frowning at the level of inducements, another PDP member, Hon Ndubisi Nwobu, said: “I feel very disappointed test that in thus age and time vote are being bought by certain persons with monetary inducements.
“I feel very terrible that people that came to exercise their franchise were influenced with cash fir vote. I can conveniently say that the PDP is not involved in this inducement. There is a possibility that it will affect the outcome of the results,” he lamented.

Current update as the Kwara State Independent Electoral Commission (KWASEIC) has expressed satisfaction with the conduct of Saturday’s election into 16 local government Areas in the state.
It is gathered as the chairman of the commission, Dr AbdulRahman Ajidagba, expressed the satisfaction while speaking with newsman after monitoring the conduct of the election in some polling units in Ilorin, the state capital.
Ajidagba, who was accompanied by the commissioner in charge of Administration and Security, Alhaji AbdulRauf Ajao, visited over 15 polling centres in the Ilorin Township.
He promptly addressed issues of inadequate election materials in some polling centres visited.
The commission chairman described apathy in some centres as normal since the electorate must have divergent views on any matter.
“So far so good, as we went to several polling centres there were large turnout of electorate and materials were adequate,” he said
Voting was still in progress in some polling units with a long queue of voters as at 5 p.m Saturday.

RHAPSODY OF REALITIES

SUNDAY, 19TH NOVEMBER.

Pastor Chris

TOPIC ✨ FAITH IS BEYOND REASON✨
.
Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen (Hebrews 11:1).

Faith is a very simple Kingdom principle to understand and apply. The reason some Christians struggle with their faith is that they try to reason out the Word of God with their minds. Faith is the response of the human spirit, not the mind, to the Word of God. Faith is of the spirit, not the senses. The Bible says, “With the heart, man believeth...” (Romans 10:10). You don’t believe with your mind, you believe with your heart—your spirit. You can reason with your mind, but faith isn’t in the realm of reason.

For example, if you’ve been educated in Biology or Medicine, you know that it’s absolutely impossible for a woman to conceive a child without a male sperm. How then can you reason out and explain the birth of Jesus Christ? It’s beyond human or natural comprehension. How can you explain the death, burial, resurrection, and glorious ascension of Jesus with the knowledge of science? You’ve got to accept what God said in His Word, and that’s faith. You take God at His Word, whether it makes sense to you or not.

Ephesians 1:3 says, “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ.” Don’t try to reason out how it happened or if this is really so; believe it and act accordingly. Acknowledge, and affirm that you’ve been blessed, not just with material things such as houses, cars, money, etc., but with all spiritual blessings, because God said so.

The blessings and realities of our transcendent life in Christ are beyond sense knowledge and can’t be subjected to empirical verification. Now, these blessings, though already spiritual realities, aren’t in physical shapes or forms that the mind can easily relate with or comprehend through reasoning. Therefore, to those who’re controlled by their minds, who live in the realm of the senses, these blessings aren’t “real,” until they can “see” or “touch” them. To them, “seeing is believing”; but that’s not Christianity.

In Christianity, “believing is seeing.” We believe and see the blessings as real because of what the Word says. Ours is the life of faith in the Word, through the Word, and by the Word.

PRAYER
Dear Father, thank you for revealing your Word to my spirit and making me see clearly the blessed life you’ve given me in Christ, a life of faith beyond this world. I live in glory, victory and prosperity above this world and its systems, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.

Methodist Church Appoints First Transgender Minister, 46 Years Old Joy Everingham
User Avatar Forum: Retired Forums. Please Make Your Post Within The 3 Forums In General Discussion
Posted by: Pretty Bird - 11-19-2017, 12:22 AM - No Replies

After the birth of the couple's second son in 2002, they decided Joy would live full-time as a man and all of her clothes were taken to a charity shop.

Chelsea power past Baggies
[Image: chelsea-power-past-baggies-2010876.jpg]
Chelsea produced a smashing performance to power past a poor West Bromwich Albion side and win 4-0 at the Hawthorns on Saturday afternoon.West Brom 0 Chelsea 4Morata puts visitors aheadHazard adds secondAlonso taps in thirdHazard grabs double in second half

Match Highlights

Chelsea started the match well and Alvaro Morata took full advantage after Eden Hazard’s shot was deflected into his path by Ben Foster, as the visitors went 1-0 up in the 17th minute.

In the 23rd minute Morata turned from scorer to provider as he brilliantly flicked the ball into Hazard’s path to put him through with the Belgian grabbing his first goal of the afternoon.

A bad situation for Tony Pulis turned worse after Cesc Fabregas curled a free-kick into the West Brom area and an unmarked Marcos Alonso was able to volley home at the far post.

Hazard grabbed his second in the second-half after receiving the ball from Fabregas, cutting inside and stroking into the goal.

Full Report

West Brom, under pressure with the relegation places looming, started brightly as they looked for what would have been a precious three points.

Salomon Rondon thought he had put the hosts ahead in just the fifth minute of play after he headed home a cross from the right wing but he was just offside.
Chelsea then started to recover and dominate possession after an early warning. In the 12th minute Davide Zappacosta found Timoue Bakayoko unmarked at the far post but the midfielder struggled to bring the ball down and the chance passed.

Bakayoko had another chance minutes later, finding himself in an uncharacteristic center forward position but he scuffed his shot wide.

Hazard found himself on the receiving end of boos from the home crowd who were frustrated as they thought he was feigning an injury. The play-maker, however, picked himself back up and wriggled free of Gareth Barry, firing a shot which Foster parried into the path of Morata who made no mistake with his finish to put the visitors 1-0 ahead.

Only minutes later, and the home side found themselves further behind as Fabregas slid the ball to Morata who in turn fed Hazard with a delightful flick. Hazard rounded Foster and finished with his left foot.

The visitors continued to apply pressure onto the hosts, with the home side struggling to keep the ball. In the 37th minute Morata won a free kick from Ahmed El Hegazi which Fabregas stepped over to take. The Spaniard whipped a ball in which was met by an unmarked Alonso who volleyed home with his left foot.

The Baggies needed to respond in the second half and again started the half well with Rondon and Jay Rodriguez combining but the latter could only fire wide of the post.
The away side then looked for the final goal to kill off the tie with Chelsea fans chanting at Tony Pulis. In the 56th minute Morata produced an excellent piece of skill when he knocked the ball past Hegazi and fired a shot on goal which Foster did well to save.

Chelsea killed the game off in the 62nd minute as Fabregas, a key player in all of Chelsea’s goals, lofted the ball to Hazard. The Belgian controlled it before taking a touch, cutting inside and stroking into the corner of the goal.

The away side were happy to keep the ball for the rest of the match with West Brom desperately trying to regain possession and create chances. In the 76th minute Barry tested Thibaut Courtois with a free kick but the Belgian keeper saved easily.

In the 85th minute Azpilicueta’s mistake nearly gifted the hosts a consolation goal when caught in possession by James McClean but the winger screwed his shot wide of the far post.

What Aspect of Poultry Farming Will You Love to Start?

What Aspect of Poultry Farming Will You Love to Start?

Poultry farming has very broad branches. Below you have them:

1. Broilers breeding.

This is for meat production. You'll grow your broilers and sell them out to the consumers. Broilers grow so fast. Within 42-45 days, most broiler are grown and ready to be sold

For a potential poultry farmer in Nigeria (or elsewhere), this may be a way for you to get started as you could have quick returns on your investment

.2. Layers breeding.
Here you are breeding your layer chickens with the major aim of having them laying eggs, though you`ll eventually sell them off after they are becoming weak and are no longer laying much eggs as expected (this is usually after 54-70 weeks, about 2 year and 4 months )

3. Poultry feed production.

People in this branch of poultry farming business are producing poultry`s food and selling them to the poultry farmers

4. The Hatcheries. Here you have people who hatch chicken and other birds. This aspect of poultry farming business is very important (though not common) because the health of a bird is determined by the effectiveness of the hatchery process.
5. Poultry equipment manufacturing.

You guess it. These guys manufacture various equipment needed on the poultry farm.

6. Poultry consultant.

You will need experience in aforementioned niches before you can succeed as a consultant.

Yes, a giant company may be doing all of the above together, but if you're just starting out, you definitely cannot, because of these two or three reasons;

i.Taking all of the above together will require so much capital, but not just that.

ii.Starting all the above together will not work because poultry farming in Nigeria (or anywhere else), like any other business has a learning curve. For example, when you see a company doing all the above together, their story may look something like: Starting with layers birds for some months, going in to broilers production, expanding to poultry feed production, later hatchery and since they might have spent many years by now, they can now venture into poultry farming consultancy. I`m sure you got that. Start somewhere. Learn and grow.

iii.Crisis management. Did you hear someone said poultry farming business is very risky? That's not true. Every business is risky, not just poultry. However, starting all the above together (even if you have enough capital) is not advisable because you are putting too many food in your mouth at a time.

Now that you have some ideas of various branches of the multi-billion poultry farming industry, I want to assume further that most people reading this will love to go into either broilers or layer's breeding.

How To Start Cassava Farming In Nigeria (Step By Step
[Image: Cassava-Farming-in-Nigeria.jpg]
It is unfortunate to see many Nigerians go to bed hungry, suffering of starvation and malnutrition. We constantly complain of lack of good paying jobs and no money to spend and take care of our immediate needs. In effort to get jobs, we sell themselves into slavery in the hands of Chinese and Lebanese right in their own country all in the name of working in a factory. While in reality, we are sitting on a goldmine known as cassava farming and production!

Cassava grows very well in most parts of West Africa like Ghana, Senegal, Benin Republic, Nigeria, and Cameroon. The Brazilians are also know for cassava farming which they use for Tapioca production.

The industrial processing of cassava in Nigeria holds much potential for successful investment.  The crop is increasingly attracting attention of serious business people. And processing businesses are slowly starting to spring-up all over the country. You also know how useful cassava is to Nigerians in general in terms of consumption. Cassava forms the major part of our daily food. Almost no family can survive  a whole year without cassava related food.

Cassava can be processed into a number of products such as starch, flour, chips, ethanol and glucose syrup, and bread to name a few. These products are all in high demand locally and also have significant export possibilities. These therefore, place a lot of raw cash in the hands of anyone who goes into cassava farming right now.

As a smart person, you should be thinking about how to take advantage of the government support for agriculture and the increased budget to create wealth for yourself. This is because cassava production surely provides opportunity for investors. If you are ready, here are what you need to start your own cassava farming in Nigeria.

1. Select Site For Your Cassava Farming

For Cassava plantation, it is important to choose an accessible well-drained fertile soil. You can take sample of the soil where you want to start your cassava farming to the IITA to help determine whether the soil is suitable for high yield cassava variety.

While most forest lands within the South West are known to be very fertile for cassava farming, it is important to further verify in other to be sure of your investment.

2. Decide On Cassava Varieties

For good cassava production, the following varieties are recommended for their high yield and processing quality: TMS 30572, NR 8082, NR8083, TMS 4(2) 1425, TMS 81/00110, TMS 92/0326. An additional 10 varieties are in the process of being released. Check from the cassava production specialists in Ibadan

3. Land Preparation And Planting

A total herbicide – Round up (a glyphosate) should be applied to the land where you want to plant your cassava at the rate of 4–5 l/ha 10 days before land preparation. For cost effectiveness and optimum plant population of your cassava , mechanization and planting on ridges are recommended.

Liming

It is recommended that 5 (50 kg) bags of agricultural lime be applied /ha during land preparation.
Planting and planting material

1. Cassava Planting starts in April and can be extended to October.

2. The quantity of cassava recommended for 1 ha is 60 bundles of cassava stem.

3. Cassava Stem cuttings 25 cm long should be planted at a spacing of 1 m x 1 m.

4. Maintain 100% cassava planting rate by replacing dead or nonviable stems.
Post-planting weed control

Where a total herbicide was not used before land preparation for cassava plantation, it is recommended that a selective pre-emergence herbicide be applied within three days after planting. Five liters of Primextra is recommended /ha.

4. Types Of Fertilizer To Use

The following fertilizers and their rate/ha are recommended

• NPK 15:15:15–12 (50 kg) bags
• NPK 20:10:10–9 (50 kg) bags
• NPK 12:12:17–15 (50 kg) bags

Apply fertilizer at 8 weeks after planting your cassava. Apply fertilizer in a ring, 6 cm wide and 10 cm from the plant or broadcast with care around the cassava plant, making sure the fertilizer does not touch the cassava stem or leaves.

Yield

Cassava Yield of 25 t/ha and above can be obtained with good agronomic practices and management.
Therefore, every step must be taken seriously in the process of planting your cassava.

Note

To reduce cost of production and attain high yields, it is recommended that land preparation be fully
mechanized. A power tiller can be used if the total land area under cultivation is not more than 250ha

How To Start Pig Farming In Nigeria (Step by Step Guide)

[Image: Pig-Farming-in-Nigeria-e1454490658865.jpg]

Pig farming also known as piggery is another aspect of farming in Nigeria that is making smart investors and entrepreneurs huge money on daily basis. If you are into this pig farming, you sure wouldn’t lack money again for the rest of your life. The reason is because Pig meet is in high demand in Nigeria and sells very very fast in the market. Another reason is that Pig reproduce in large number and grows very fast.
A single pig gives birth to as much as 15 piglets at a time, making it one of the most reproducing livestock in the world. Baby pigs is known as shoatfarrow or piglet. Male pig is referred to as the boar while female is sows. As a group they are called a herd or drove.
Despite the huge profitability of Piggery, many Nigerian are still overlooking this goldmine because of ignorance of how it works. While some don’t just get the fact that it is a big business –  many who engage in it do it as part time business but if you can engage in this business fully, you are sure going to smile to the bank very soon.

A fully grown Pig goes for as high as N30,000 depending on the weight. Now Imagine for a year you are able to rear hundred to maturity, you will be making  N3 Million from the sales. If you can take it higher – lets say like 2,000 pigs in year, you will be making upward of N60 Million. Considering how fast pigs reproduces, it wouldn’t be a very much big deal to come up with 100 pigs in a year. Then, how do you go about setting up your pig farm? Below are the important guides

1. Secure A Breeding Ground

Depending on how you plan to feed your pigs, a plot of land may just be okay for small scale starting but if you can acquire a large farm land (from 5 acres) that will be better so that your pig can graze in the open and retire to the pen where they’d continue feeding and playing. Land is your biggest investment in this business. Once you have it, you’re half way done.

Look for land in a rural area where you can get it cheaper. 1acre of land in a rural area will be from N200,000 x how many you want. Do your stuffs there and transport your goods to the town. Some butcher will even be coming to your farm to buy, saving you cost of transportation.

It is good to raise pigs in pasture by leaving them occasionally to root around in the fields where they can find plants to eat, and that can only be achieved when you have large enough farm land (Pasture Ground) to cater for this. As they mature, you take care so that they do not wander away.

2. Build Standard Pens

Big pen is important if you don’t want your pigs to injure themselves. A good and specious pen is also important to keep the pigs healthy and free from diseases and contamination. Proper drainage is needed too to avoid water becoming stagnant in your pen which could attract insects and other harmful pets to harm your pigs.

To avoid your pigs getting overly dirty, you need to build a water pool where they can play, swim as pigs likes swimming, and cool themselves which is important to their well being. Changing the water and refilling the pool as frequently as possible will ensure that they are clean all the time. If you are keeping them outdoor, shelter should be build for them.

3. Buy Healthy Piglets

To ensure healthy farm, you need to make sure the piglets you are about to start your farm with are health. Buy from trusted source and make sure the ones you are buying has history of vaccination.

[Image: Pig_Pens_Sample.jpg]Standard Pig Pen for Big Farmers

Buy as much as you wants to start with but don’t start with too many. It is advisable to start with small number and increase gradually. This way, you will be able to learn the rope and you grow and anything go wrong at the initial stage, your risk will be minimal.

Talk To Veterinary Doctor – You need the services of vet doctors for regular check up and vaccination as well as feeding and nutrition advice. Pigs generally eats what human being eat and doe not present much worries when it comes to feed.

4. Employ Workers

Employ 4 – 5 persons if your pigs are up to 100. If  you are starting on a smaller scale, you may need lesser number of worker 1 – 2 workers who will be assisting in the cleaning of the pigs and the pens, feeding the pigs and making sure they are well behaved and other things necessary.

5. Feeding Is Important For Pig Farming

Just like human being,  Pigs eat a wide variety of foods, anything human can eat, they can eat. Like human being as well, they need balanced diet such as fibre, energy, protein, carbohydrates, vitamins and minerals to thrive. Feed will take the major chunk of your spending in the farm.

SEE ALSO: How To Start Animal Feeds Production

Pigs, like all animals, must have constant access to clean fresh drinking water. As well as tipping the trough to make a wallow, pigs will also stand in the water trough and wash their dirty faces in it, so it needs to be checked regularly, cleaned out and refilled. Galvanised troughs are robust and easy to clean, and not too easy for the pigs to tip over.  Automatic drinkers are available but aren’t half as much fun for the pigs
Put all these in place and you are as good as having started your business.  There is nothing a good as being in business you are sure of profit; Pig farming is one of such business. All you need to do is to feed and take care of them. Do that proper and watch them multiply in three fold.

Beetroot-pineapple-ginger juice

On the spotlight today, is my delicious beetroot juice that I made with the addition of pineapples and ginger. I cannot even begin to explain how amazing this juice is, I mean, the velvety red from the beets just makes you want to reach for it. And the taste, oh my! Is something else altogether. You have the earthy beet flavour, the sweetness from the pineapples and the spicy kick from the ginger, all coming together as one in this amazing combo! You really need to try it at home!

Beetroot, also known as beets, are part of the chenopodiaceae family of plants such as spinach, goose foot and saltbush, which are characterised by simple alternating leaves with small dry fruits. There are about three types of beetroot; golden beets, white beets and the red ones. Beetroot can be eaten raw on its own, it adds an amazing crunch to salads, and it can also be used for smoothies and juices too, like I have done today.

Aside its amazing colour and taste, consuming beetroot comes with a lot of amazing health benefits due to its very nutritious content, it contains carbohydrates, protein, calcium, iron, Vitamins A, B6 and C, small amounts of manganese, folate, thiamine, riboflavin, choline, zinc and so much more. All of these vitamins and minerals combined, helps in the treatment of kidney disorders, piles, anaemia, indigestion, constipation, cancer and heart diseases. It also helps fight dandruff, increases blood circulation and helps with skin care.

I am a big fan of freshly squeezed juices and I try new recipes at least once a week, mixing different fruits and vegetables to get my family interested in trying out fresh juices. I believe I have done a pretty good job at that, the priceless smile on my daughter’s face says it all!

Let’s make juice!

Ingredients
[Image: IMG_6730.JPG]
1) 2 large beets

2) 1Whole pineapple

3) 10g ginger

Directions
1) Prepare all the ingredients by peeling and cutting them all into sizes that will fit in a blender

2) Blend the pineapples in badges with at least one cup of clean water, seize the juice into a clean bowl and set aside

[Image: IMG_6729.JPG][Image: IMG_6743.JPG][Image: IMG_6738.JPG]

Cooks tip: you need very ripe pineapples to sweeten this juice because beetroot has an earthy flavour that might put your kids off, make sure you pick good ones

3) Next blend the beets and the chopped ginger together, add two more cups of water, sieve into the same bowl with the pineapple juice

4) Pop in the fridge until chilled and serve!

Home-made pizza in 6 easy steps

The summer holiday was quite a long one and even though my kids attended summer coaching for a bit, they were home full time Thursday through Sunday. I had been promising to make them pizza for a while and since my sisters kids were around for the holidays as well, it seemed like the perfect time to make one

This recipe is a hearty meaty delight that is bound to keep your family happy, my kids could not wait for the pizza to come out the oven because they added the toppings on the pizza, they were all so excited and stayed glued to the oven door watching the whole cooking process.

The secret to this delicious meaty pizza is my rich tomato sauce which is the base for whatever topping goes on afterwards, this sauce can also serve as a pasta sauce, it is really delicious. I have the recipe here, you can try it out too.

The upside to making pizza at home is that, you can totally make it your own, in terms of adding any toppings that will delight your family, so feel free to use whatever toppings your family love and watch them gobble it all up. My kids wanted practically everything on this pizza, I ended up making two different pizzas but I kept the toppings as minimal as I could.

Let’s cook!

Ingredients for pizza crust
[Image: IMG_6933.JPG]

1) Flour 5 cups

2) Yeast 1 table spoon

3) Baking soda 1 table spoon

4) Pinch of salt

5) 2 table spoons olive oil

Toppings
1) Mozzarella cheese

2) Tomato sauce

3) Mixed bell peppers (green, red and yellow)

4) Onions

5) Beef

6) Chicken franks

Directions
1) Add all the pizza crust ingredients into a bowl and add about two cups of warm water, add this in bits while you kneed until you form a soft yet stretchy dough

2) Roll into a ball, set this into a clean bowl and cover with a cling film, set this aside and allow it to rise and double in size for about 25 minutes.

[Image: IMG_6924.JPG][Image: IMG_6931.JPG][Image: IMG_6935.JPG]

3) While the dough is rising, season and stir fry your beef until tender and tasty, once this is done

4) Take the pizza dough and cut into 2 or 3 portions, depending on the size of pizza you want to make, spread flour on a flat surface or in the pan you intend to use, roll out the dough, making sure to shape it well

Quote:
Quote:Cooks tip: I made two 14 inch pizzas from this dough

5) Now spread the tomato sauce on first, and the start adding all of the toppings you want before finishing off with the grated mozzarella cheese

[Image: IMG_6941.JPG][Image: IMG_6954.JPG][Image: IMG_6960.JPG]

6) Pop in a preheated oven at gas mark 220 for 20 minutes and your pizza is ready. I like to use the lower oven burner for 15 minutes and the upper burner for 5 minutes so that the pizza is cooked through.

Pulse Cerebrates Only Peter Okoye's 36th Birthday. Fans Blast
The rift between the PSquare brothers took a new dimension when lifestyle blog Pulse choose to celebrate only one of the twins and this did not go down well with fans.

With many still trying to see the duo back as one accused pulse to be making itself a third or fourth party to the quarrel. From my observations I think Mr. P formerly Peter of PSquare has been promoting his new song on the blogs platform and they consider him more as their customer.

See screenshot of ranting fans. Do you think Pulse is right?

9 Tips to Prevent Prostate Cancer
User Avatar Forum: Nutrition
Posted by: Edoman - 11-18-2017, 04:07 PM - No Replies

The facts of prostate cancer
The prostate, an organ located under the bladder, produces semen. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), prostate cancer is the second most common cancer among men in the United States. The risk of developing prostate cancer progressively increases with age.
Out of every 100 men over the age of 60, six will have prostate cancer before their 70th birthday, according to the CDC.
There’s no absolute prostate cancer prevention, but evidence suggests diet plays a key role. Keep reading for diet tips and more information.

1)Red foods
Tomatoes and other red foods
Tomatoes, watermelon, and other red foods owe their bright color to a powerful antioxidant called lycopene. Studies show that men who consume this fruit and tomato-based products have a lower risk of prostate cancer than those who don’t.
Other findings suggest that cooking tomatoes makes it easier for your body to absorb lycopene. The redder the tomato, the better because lycopene accumulates during ripening. That means that pale, store-bought tomatoes that are picked too early have less lycopene than vine-ripened tomatoes.

2)Fruits and veggies
The power of fruits and veggies
Nutrients and vitamins contained in fruits and vegetables may lower your risk of getting prostate cancer. Green vegetables contain compounds that help your body break down cancer-causing substances called carcinogens. A nutrient-rich diet may also help slow the spread of cancer.
By eating fruits and vegetables throughout the day, you’ll be less likely to fill up on processed junk food.

3)Fish
Feast on fish
Fatty acid, known as omega-3, may help reduce your risk of developing prostate cancer. Omega-3 is found in certain fish including sardines, tuna, mackerel, trout, and salmon.
When compared to a high-fat diet, eating a low-fat diet and taking fish oil supplements has been found to slow the growth of prostate cancer cells. It’s easier to treat cancer that hasn’t yet spread outside the prostate.

4)Soy and tea
Soybean and tea
A nutrient called isoflavones has been linked to a reduced risk of prostate cancer. Isoflavones are found in:

  • tofu (made from soybeans)

  • chickpeas

  • lentils

  • alfalfa sprouts

  • peanuts

Some studies have shown that men who drink green tea, or take green tea extract supplements, have a lower risk of prostate cancer than those who don’t.

5)Coffee
Pour Another Cup of Coffee
Decades of studies suggest that indulging a serious coffee habit is linked to a decreased risk of fatal prostate cancer:
  • Drinking four to five cups of coffee every day can lower your chances of fatal and high-grade prostate cancer.

  • Regardless of how many cups you drink overall, every three cups of coffee you drink can reduce your risk of fatal prostate cancer about 11 percent.

This describes a dose-response relationship between prostate cancer and coffee. That means the effect on prostate cancer goes up or down with the amount of coffee you drink. These effects may not extend to someone who only grabs an occasional cup.
However, high doses of caffeine can cause major health issues, such as irregular heartbeat and seizures. According to Mayo Clinic, the daily recommended amount of caffeine for most healthy adults is 400 milligrams — or about 1 1/2 cups.
How coffee is prepared can also be a factor. A study in Norway looked at coffee brewed with a filter, and boiled coffee, which doesn’t use such a filter. Men who drank boiled coffee seemed to have a lower risk of prostate cancer than men who drank coffee prepared another way or not at all.
The chemicals cafestol and kahweol have well-known cancer-fighting abilities. Researchers believe these chemicals are trapped when coffee runs through a paper filter. Boiled coffee may allow these cancer-fighting chemicals to stay in your daily brew.

6)Fat
The role of fat
Studies indicate a link between animal fats and an increased risk of prostate cancer. In addition to meat, animal fats are found in lard, butter, and cheese. Whenever possible, replace animal-based fats with plant-based fats.
This, instead of that:
  • olive oil instead of butter

  • fruit instead of candy

  • fresh vegetables instead of prepackaged foods

  • nuts or seeds instead of cheese

Also, overcooking meat produces carcinogens, so be careful not to over-cook your meat.

7)Stop smoking
Stop smoking
Prostate cancer patients who smoke are more likely to have a recurrence of the disease. Smokers are also more likely to have an aggressive form of prostate cancer.
It's not too late to quit. When compared with current smokers, prostate cancer patients who quit smoking for more than 10 years had the same mortality risk as those who never smoked.

8)Controversial foods
Controversial foods
Folate
Some studies suggest that low folate levels in your blood increase your risk for cancer. Folate is found in a variety of foods, including green vegetables, beans, and orange juice. Increasing your intake of these foods may reduce the risk of prostate cancer. However, supplementing with folic acid, a man-made form of folate, may increase the risk of cancer.
Dairy
Some studies have linked dairy products, or diets high in calcium, with an increased risk of prostate cancer, but this risk is considered minimal.

9)Exercise
The importance of exercise
Too much fat, especially in the middle of your body, is linked to an increased risk of prostate cancer.
Regular exercise can help you maintain a healthy weight. Benefits of exercise include increased muscle mass and better metabolism. Try:
  • walking

  • running

  • bicycling

  • swimming

Exercise doesn't have to be boring. Vary your routine and invite your friends to participate. You're more likely to workout if it's fun.
Talk to your doctor
Talk to your doctor
Ask your doctor about your risk for developing prostate cancer. Some points to discuss include:
  • what medical screening tests you should have as you age

  • family history of cancer

  • dietary recommendations

Tell your doctor if you’re just beginning a new exercise program, or if you have the following symptoms:
  • discomfort anywhere in your pelvic or rectal areas

  • difficulty urinating

  • blood in your urine or semen
     1. Adopt a low-fat diet planThe best way to prevent any kind of cancer is to have a healthy diet, avoiding foods like nuts, cheese, oils, and meat. Some studies have shown that men consuming higher amounts of fat are more prone to cancer risks. If food is life for you, the best way to keep healthy is to reduce the amount of fat in your diet by choosing low-fat products and leaner meat cuts. You could completely avoid the consumption of meat.2. Fall in love with fishIf fish is currently not a part of your diet, you might try reconsidering. Research has shown that fish like salmon, herring, and tuna contain omega-3 fatty acids, which reduce the risk of prostate cancer. Vegetarians may consider eating flaxseed to ingest omega-3s.3. Kick back with wine, not beerWestern European men have lower chances of getting prostate-cancer, and that is due to their staple food habits. The National Cancer Institute journals have published a research showing that men eating more than 10 grams of garlic daily have a 50% lower cancer risk than those who don't. Additionally, drinking moderate amounts of red wine is an excellent way of cancer prevention. Red grapes contain resveratrol, an antioxidant useful in prostate cancer prevention, reported the University of Texas' M.D. Anderson Cancer Center.4. Monitor your physical activities. The wisest thing to do is to consult a doctor each time you begin a new exercise routine, especially if it targets the pelvic muscles. Any kind of discomfort or swelling in the pelvic or rectal areas should be immediately reported and regularly monitored by a medical practitioner.5. Go tangy with tomatoes.Tomatoes contain an antioxidant called lycopene, which helps in preventing prostate cancer. Even cooking tomatoes help your body to absorb lycopene. Go for riper and redder tomatoes as they contain more amounts of lycopene. Including more red-colored food in your diet, like watermelons, beetroot, and red cabbage is a surefire way to reduce risks of prostate cancer.6. Walk, jump, and dance moreProstate health depends on oxygenation from blood circulation. People who spend most of the day being seated or travelling in cars have a higher risk of prostate cancer, like drivers, pilots, office workers, etc. Bicyclists are also at higher risk for prostate complications as their pelvic region experiences more pressure. The key for every prevention tactic is a proper balance. Incorporating healthier versions of your life choices will ensure you're at a lower risk of prostate cancer.Source: http://www.ibtimes.sg/prostate-cancer-aw...lthy-15852 https://www.healthline.com/health/9-tips...ate-cancer#

INGREDIENTS:
  • 3 cups flour
  • 1 tablespoon powdered milk
  • 3 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt ( not heaped o)
  • 1 tablespoon baking margarine (not heaped too, just level) You can use butter here. I don't have butter at home.
  • 11/2 teaspoons nutmeg
  • 1 cup water (250ml)
Cooking Direction:
  1. Sieve your flour into a bowl, add the powdered milk, sugar, salt, nutmeg and the margarine or butter.
  2. With your fingers mix until the flour looks like bread crumbs, like tiny particles of garri, then add the warm water and mix until the dough is no longer sticky on your fingers.
  3. Place on a lightly floured surface, roll out and cut into desired shape.
  4. Fry in hot oil until golden brown, do not overcrowd the pot, fry only few pieces at a time so it doesn't soak oil, drain with paper napkins and store in airtight containers.

COOKING DIRECTION:
In a bowl I sieved the flour, added the sugar, salt, milk, nutmeg, margarine and with my fingers worked on the margarine until it looks a bit like bread crumbs then I poured in the water and kneaded until dough is elastic. The dough is placed on a board, flattened with a rolling pin and cut with a knife. I sprinkled some flour on the board to make rolling easy and still sprinkled some flour on the dough before cutting.
Frying in hot oil was the final work. So quick and easy.

Poultry Farming in Nigeria is probably one of the most lucrative farming business you can do in Nigeria especially when it is setup and managed properly. The farmers we currently have are not producing enough poultry and will not be enough even in the next ten years! This aspect of livestock farming presents one of the finest opportunity for entrepreneurs to make good money within the shortest period of time possible. This is made possible due to the quick maturity of chickens.
With over 160 Million consumers in the country who buys poultry products on daily basis, the market is always here waiting to be tapped. The demand for eggs is so high that people go about everyday looking for where to buy eggs for supply.
So, how exactly can anyone who wish to start poultry farming in Nigeria be able to go about it and come out very profitable? This article will cover a lot of ground, and it is written based on personal experience and continually updated to make sure the information here is as accurate as possible at all time.

This very post will take more critical look at the business and how entrepreneurs who are interested in this business in Nigeria could start easily without wasting much time and resources.
Anyone can engage in poultry farming business, it doesn’t matter your educational or financial background. You can start at any level and grow as big as you want with time. The most important thing is that you are interested in starting somewhere.
This articles will focus on how to start small and grow big which I think will interest anyone with limited financial capacity who wants to start small without involving much risks.
One of the factors that makes poultry farming business ideal is because chickens grows very fast. Unlike goats that takes 2 to 3 years to mature, a chicken can be ready for the market within 28 weeks from birth. That is why it is considered ideal business for loan takers who may actually invest the loan and within 30 to 40 weeks, they may start paying back through the money realized from sells. That is if everything goes well as planned.

Profit Potential in Poultry Farming Business
1. Chicken Reproduce Fast

Average healthy Layer lays egg almost everyday or at least 4 times in a week. Some Breeds can lay as much as 325 eggs in a year and take 21 days to hatch. This means that technically a Layer is capable of producing another chicken twice in three days.
So, if you have 500 healthy layers of good breeds (such as California white) they are capable of reproducing a whooping 12,000 chicks within 40 days!
2. Chicken Grows Very Fast
Within 21 days, the egg is hatched and within 28 weeks, they are ready for the market. That means a farmer may start making his money in just 34 weeks after successfully setting up his farm and whatever returns he make could be doubled in a year based on this calculation.
3. Chicken Sells at Very Good Price
A fully grown healthy chicken sells between 2,000 to 2,500 naira in Nigeria. Therefore, if you produce 12,000 chickens in your farm, you will be making N24 million by the time they are completely sold.
4. Egg market in Large too – Apart from the chicken, the egg is another money of it’s own. A crate of eggs sells for N500 – N550 for smaller eggs and N600 – N650 for bigger ones. Each crate contains 30 eggs. Therefore, if you have 500 layers that produces 12,000 pullet in a month and decides to sell all, you will be making N200,000 to N260,000 monthly.
As you can see, the profit in poultry farming in Nigeria is mouth watering and the turn over time is fantastic. The big question now is how to get this business started?
