Three Operation Managers of First City Monument Bank (FCMB) attached to the Onikan, Lagos Island branch of the bank have been arraigned before a Lagos Magistrate Court for allegedly stealing the sum of N48,635,840 from the account of the bank.
The accused persons are: Omotayo Oluseyi, 38, Ebenezer Efunsola, 50 and Uchenna Ugwuibe, 45.
The accused persons were arrested by the Police at the Lion Building Division, Lagos Island and arraigned before an Igbosere Magistrate Court on a two-count charge of felony to wit, stealing.
Police Prosecutor, Oluwafemi Adeleye informed the court in charge No D/91/2017 that the accused persons committed the offence between January 2016 and May 2017 at First City Monument Bank located on Macarthy Street, Onikan, Lagos Island during working hours.
Adeleye told the court that the accused persons betrayed the trust reposed in them by their employer as Operation Managers and as Head of Department at the Macarthy branch of the bank by allegedly conniving to steal the sum of N48,635,840 from their employer’s account.
He said the management of FCMB uncovered the fraud when they audited their account books.
Adeleye said that the offences the accused committed were punishable under sections 411 and 287 (7) of the criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015.
The accused persons, however, pleaded not guilty to the alleged crime in the open court and their counsels, Loveline Ezemegbu and Helen Ibeji prayed the court to grant the defendants bail in the most liberal terms, promising that they would not jump bail if granted.
Chief Magistrate B.A Sonuga granted the defendants bail in the sum of N5 million each with two sureties each in like sum who must be bank staff.
Sonuga also directed that the sureties must deposit the sum of N1 million each in the Chief Court Registrar’s account and their International passport with the court.
The magistrate adjourned the case till 13 January, 2018 and ordered that the defendants be kept at the Ikoyi Prison till they were able to fulfill the bail conditions.

How 14-year-old who fled Boko Haram was ‘serially raped by soldiers
User Avatar Forum: Politics

Some security officials in the north-east have been accused of preying on the victims they have been assigned to protect.
Last year alone, countless cases of rape and sexual violence were reported in seven internally displaced persons (IDP) camps in Borno state.
According to a report by New York Times, one Falmata, who was reportedly abducted from her home and raped repeatedly by Boko Haram fighters for three years, recently had a raw deal in the hands of some soldiers at a camp in Dalori, Borno state.
She was said to have escaped after slipping into the bush while her captors slept.
Fourteen years old and alone, she made it to the camp and had just settled in for the night when she heard footsteps outside her tent.
A security officer’s voice reportedly instructed her to come out and she obeyed.
He was said to have taken her to his quarters, where she was allegedly raped. Hours later, after she had returned to her tent, another officer was also said to have arrived.
“The same day I was brought there, soldiers started coming to rape me,” Falmata was quoted to have said.
“They did it one after another. I’m not even sure those two knew about each other.”
Another 13-year-old reportedly narrated her sour experience in the hands of security operatives.
“The soldiers would come and hold me so tight,” said the girl who had been reportedly raped at least 10 times this year at a camp in Maiduguri, Borno capital.
Some residents of a camp known as Teachers Village said security forces had worked out a system to select their rape victims.
“Young women were called to cook for them,” the newspaper said in its report.
“After the women finished, security officers insisted that they clean up, telling them to go bathe in the officers’ quarters as the men watched.”
An 18-year-old girl simply identified as Hadiza, spoke of her experience in the hands of those “old enough to be my parents”.
“At first none of us knew they were doing this,” Hadiza reportedly said.
“But then the stories started to spread around camp that anyone cooking for them would be raped.”
After living in the camp for several weeks, Hadiza said she was picked to cook for the officers.
“Definitely my time has come,” she recalled.
Later, she was asked to serve water to four security officers in their room as they dined. One by one they left, she said, until only one man remained. He allegedly dragged her into a separate room and raped her.
Hadiza was injured, she said, but did not ask for medical care, fearing that the officers would seek revenge.
She said she tried to keep a low profile for a couple of weeks, but officers spotted her and raped her again. She said she had been raped as many as 20 times in the camp.
“Once they identified you as a girl they wanted to have sex with, they would hardly leave you alone a single day,” Hadiza said.
Last year, President Muhammadu Buhari called for an investigation into sexual assaults at the camps after Human Rights Watch detailed the abuse in a report, ordering new measures to protect the vulnerable.
The police later arrested several men for sexually abusing and exploiting women and girls. Those arrested included two police officers, a prison warden, two members of the civilian joint task force, a civil servant and three soldiers.
In June, an army special board of inquiry said allegations against soldiers at the camps were unfounded.
Mausi Segun, executive director of the Africa division of Human Rights Watch, said much success has not been recorded due to delay in executing Buhari’s mandate.
“Very little progress has been made by Nigerian authorities to implement President Buhari’s promise of justice for the survivors,” he told New York Times.
“The delay reinforces displaced people’s sense of helplessness, and likely emboldens more perpetrators to prey on their vulnerability.”
As of the time this report was filed, TheCable could not reach Sani Usman, spokesman of the Nigerian army, as he neither answered his call nor replied a text message.

“I became pregnant after 4 Arab men raped me”- Libya returnees recounts experience
User Avatar Forum: Other Stories

Edo-born Miss Loveth Ekumabo, 25-year-old Libya returnee, has blamed her father’s incestuous behaviour for her decision to flee to Libya, at least, for safety from her father; also in search of greener pasture.
Ekumabo, from Uhunwode local government, is one of the hundreds of Edo indigenes that have been repatriated from Libya. They are currently in the custody of the state government undergoing rehabilitation for effective integration into society.
Aside her traumatic experience during the seven-month sojourn in the North Africa country, pregnant Ekumabo, may have to live with the pain of not knowing the father of her unborn child.

In an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), she cursed all those who raped her in Libya, including her biological father, whose incestuous action at home, she claimed, was responsible for her present predicament.
Narrating her ordeal, Ekumabo said her father’s attempted acts of incest, drove her to Libya. She alleged that the exposure of her father’s attempted incestuous relationship with her resulted into a big family row.
“After I exposed what my father wanted to do to me, fight broke out at home and I had to run away for my safety.
I went to stay with my friend who introduced me to the man that helped people to Europe.
I did not have any money, I was made to swear to an oath in a shrine in Benin that I will pay back every kobo when I get to Europe.

We agreed that I will pay back N200,000. I left Benin for Kano in April, 2017. From Kano we were transported in a Hilux truck through the dessert with no food and water to Agadez in Niger and from there to Tripoli in Libya..
If you want to cross from Agadez to Tripoli without money you either get raped as a girl or get beaten up as a boy. The agency can also sell you out as slaves to get their money before you are allowed to cross to Tripoli with your new owner.
I saw dead people; boys being killed; girls raped to death;and people sold as slaves. The worst part is that Nigerians are among those Arabs who treat fellow Nigerians badly.

It was while I was about to cross to Tripoli that four Arab men raped me continuously without stop. After which I was allowed to cross to Tripoli where I discovered that I was pregnant. The Church Nigerians where Nigerians worship in Tripoli advised me to go back to Nigeria since I cannot do any other work here now that I am pregnant.”

Sounding confused, Ekumabo, said she did not get any comfort and words of encouragement from her immediate family. Her biological mother forbade her to return home empty handed.

“When I called my family that I was coming back, my mother asked them to tell me to stay back and try my best to cross to Europe.
But I said to myself that since she was not the one who sent me to Libya, she has no right to tell me to cross to Europe,” she said.

She explained that the Edo State has advised her to keep the pregnancy and has promised to give her accommodation where she will stay be delivered of the baby.

Mr Harrison Okotie, 35, married and has two children is one of the returnees with gory story to tell. Okotie, who hails from Ughelli South local government area of Delta, left everything in Benin, where he had lived all his life, before leaving for Libya in search of greenersture to take care of his family.
He noted that his journey through the desserts without food and water and the inhuman treatment meted on him, made him realised that there is no place like home.

“I will never in my life think of leaving my country again. Whether there is work or no, I will stay here and manage with my family.
The Nigerians held-up in Garian prisons are well over 4,000. The Libya authorities do not want to release them because they are making money from them.
They will call you from prison and ask you to call your people in Nigeria to send money for them to release you. Even if you succeed in getting money from Nigeria, they still would not let you go.It is a big business. They are not happy that the United Nations and international bodies are helping to deport people to their countries. So they now keep Nigerians in their underground prisons.”

[Image: oko2.jpg][img=408x0]https://www.lailasblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/12/lady1-408x410.png[/img]
According to him, am appealing to the federal government, UN and other international bodies to save Nigerians in Garian underground prisons.

He said:
“It was a horrible experience. One day a truck that carried 28 people, 15 of them died on the way due to lack of food and water.’’
The story of 34-year old Miss Josephine Ajabor, also from Delta, is however strange. She had taken her three- year old son, Thomas, with her to Libya in August. Ajabor, a single mother, said paid N250,000 to her sponsor for herself and her son to Europe en-route Libya.
“I will forever continue to ask my son for forgiveness because of the suffering I subjected him to. No water, no food. But God kept him for me.
The driver, who took us from Nigerian border, kept giving my son the water he poured into the radiator of the truck until we got to Libya.
In the prisons they served us food without salt. God just kept my son alive for me and I am so grateful that I am alive to narrate my experience.’’

Mr Sunday Ehiagina, another returnee, squandered his life savings on the trip to Libya.
Ehiagina, a native of Irrua in Esan Central local government area of Edo, said he owned and operated a shoe factory for seven years in Benin.
He had sold the factory, and used the proceeds to undertake a trip to Libya with his 19-year old pregnant wife, Blessing, to make ‘quick money’
Ehiagina said:
“We paid N600,000 to one Mr John Osaremen, who is now late.
We also paid another N1.1million to cross to Tripoli but we were taken to kidnapping centre where we spent one month.
After crossing to Tripoli, we met one prince Ghana and paid him N400,000 to cross to Europe but we waited for another one month at the camp where we were busted by Libya authorities.
My wife is back, she was in the second batch that came to Nigeria. I am very happy to be back to my country and state.
But so many people are still trapped inside Garian and Saba prisons. Our dreams to go to Europe turned into dead end for so many of us.” (NAN)

‘Why I am always hard on myself’ – Banky W
User Avatar Forum: Music
Posted by: Pretty Bird - 12-09-2017, 10:10 AM - No Replies

After successfully carving a niche for himself in the music industry, popular singer Bankole Wellington, fondly referred to as Banky W, has crossed over to the world of acting and he is already gaining grounds there as well.
In a chat with Saturday Beats, the singer noted that the only reason he is able to achieve such strides is simply that he is his biggest critic. He said that regardless of how anyone rates his performances, they are never good enough for him.

The singer added that failure to criticise his works could lead to the end of his career.

He said,

“Anybody that has paid attention to my music videos would know that I have had this flirtatious love affair with the movie-making business because most of my videos are short films. I tend to tell stories with my music videos because I have always been a storyteller.

In fact, from my younger days, I always considered myself as a writer before I saw myself as a singer or an actor. In that sense, watching myself on the screen was not much of a surprise because I have been flirting with it for a long time.

“I try to be my biggest critic and I consider myself as such. That is how I am about my music and businesses. I feel that the day you are satisfied with your performance and job, it is the beginning of the end because you would start to become complacent. I am always harsh on myself. So, even people think I have done a good job; I try to look at the one area that I can improve on.

While I really love Wedding Party 1, I feel there were things I could have improved on. It is the same thing with the second part; I watch the movie and I look for my mistakes. I have not even started to watch the film yet; instead, I am looking for where I made mistakes. That is just the way that I am as an entertainer and performer.”

Apparently, the singer seems to be taking the acting gig seriously and this baffles most of his fans who believe that his involvement in movies would rob them of his music.

Allaying their fears, the singer told Saturday Beats that being an extremely ambitious person; he doubted if film-making would affect his music career.

Banky W said, “People who know me well know that I am a very ambitious person; I am ambitious to a fault and I feel like I can do anything. I dream big and I would literally work my fingers to the bone so I have no plans to rob my fans of my music.

My music career is still going on and I cannot quit it for acting. I am still releasing Running After You, featuring Nonso Amadi, ‘What you doing tonight’ and ‘Love you Baby’, which was produced by Cobhams. The videos would be out as well.”

Speaking about his recent project, The Wedding Party 2, the singer turned actor simply said, “It is a slight departure from the first feature. The Wedding Party 2 focuses primarily on the accidental proposal and subsequent wedding of returning characters, ‘Nonso Onwuka’ and ‘ Deardre Winston’, played by Enyinna Nwigwe and Daniella Down.
Fans will see the hilarious consequences of their cross-cultural marriage unfold and catch up with the lives of their favourite characters. Banky W and Adesua Etomi are ‘Dozie’ and ‘Dunni’, Ali Baba and Sola Sobowale are ‘Bam-Bam’ and ‘Tin-Tin Coker’, Richard Mofe-Damijo and Ireti Doyle are ‘Felix and Obianuju Onwuka’ and Patience Ozokwor is ‘Adanna’, a feisty new addition to the cast,” he said.

‘Why I went to prison’ – Small Doctor opens up
User Avatar Forum: Music

For some weeks now, tongues have been waging that popular singer; Small Doctor was once a prison inmate. In a recent interview with the rave of the moment artiste, he described such talks as laughable. He used the opportunity to state why he went to prison.
The ‘Penalty’ singer said,

“It is true that I was a bus conductor and a commercial motorcyclist. I also hawked sachet water but I thank God for the gift of life now because I am one of the most sought-after artistes at the moment. I just feel that there is no limitation to what anybody can achieve in life. Those locked up in prisons are human beings too and that is not the end of their lives, so I decided to reach out to them.
Also, my colleague, Lamboginny, reached out to me and said he wished we should go to the prison and perform for them, so I gladly agreed. I have never been a prisoner and I laughed when I learnt that people thought I was once an inmate because of this gesture. I just feel we should always put a smile on the faces of other people regardless of any situation they are facing in life.”
The singer told Saturday Beats that ever since he attained fame, his mother’s advice to him was to ensure that he only comes home late at night.

“My mother is a teacher but she is very publicity-shy. She has never been a socialite and even those that live around her only know her as a landlady and not Small Doctor’s mother, simply because she is publicity-shy. She always tells me to make sure I don’t come to the house in the afternoon but at midnight. She is just a private person. However, I would have loved a little spotlight to shine on her because she has done so much and she is the best mom in the world,” he said.

It seems to be the best man at Oristefemi’s wedding has got the singer thinking about marriage as he told Saturday Beats that he could tie the knot soon.
[i]“I don’t think I have enough money to get married but it would come at the perfect time. Definitely, I would love to get married soon and when it happens, it would be all over town that Small Doctor is getting married. When it is time, the world would know. Anytime from now, the miracle would happen and I would get married,” he said.[/i]

RHAPSODY OF REALITIES DAILY DEVOTIONAL (DECEMBER PDF => http://bit.ly/2cuJG6M

*OUR SUPERIORITY IN CHRIST .*

Saturday, December 9th .
Pastor Chris

_*Know ye not that we shall judge angels? how much more things that pertain to this life? (1 Corinthians 6:3).*_

The Bible says we shall judge angels and we’re also going to judge the world: _*“...Do ye not know that the saints shall judge the world...”*_ (1 Corinthians 6:2). “Does this mean that the Christian is superior to the angels of God?” Emphatically yes. We’re superior in the sense of our identity with Christ.

Moreover, we’re going to be seated with Christ to judge the world of the ungodly and also fallen angels, angels who didn’t obey God. Now, the angels that obeyed God don’t need to be judged; but we’re superior to them nonetheless.

It’s the reason we’re not to worship angels or pray to them or through them. The Christian is one with Christ: _*“But he that is joined unto the Lord is one spirit”*_ (1 Corinthians 6:17). We’re joint-heirs with Christ. We’re God’s children, born of His Spirit, through the Word. And the angels are His servants. John 8:35 says, _*“And the servant abideth not in the house for ever: but the Son abideth ever.”*_ It should be noted, however, that angels have supernatural power, whilst we have authority over them in the Name of Jesus.

Hebrews 1:13-14 says, _*“But to which of the angels said he at any time, sit on my right hand, until I make thine enemies thy footstool? Are they not all ministering spirits, sent forth to minister for them who shall be heirs of salvation?”*_ God’s holy angels are always at your service. They minister on your behalf; they wait on you to do whatever you want them to do that’s consistent with the word of God. When you give the Word, they go into action to ensure what you say comes to pass.

The reason is because the angels are subject to Jesus Christ; they listen to and obey Him, and we’re in Him (2 Corinthians 5:17). Our superiority over angels, Satan, and circumstances is the result of our oneness with the Lord. Live and walk in the consciousness of your righteousness and authority in Christ, and the triumphant life you have received.

*PRAYER*

*Dear Father, I thank you for bringing me into oneness with you. I take advantage of this oneness to rule and dominate my world. Only your counsel stands sure in my life and environment. Thank you Lord for the ministry of angels on my behalf, and my superiority over the devil and his cohorts. Greater is He that’s in me, than he that’s in the world. Amen.*

*FURTHER STUDY:* *||* *Hebrews 1:2-8* Hath in these last days spoken unto us by [his] Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds; 3 Who being the brightness of [his] glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high; 4 Being made so much better than the angels, as he hath by inheritance obtained a more excellent name than they. 5 For unto which of the angels said he at any time, Thou art my Son, this day have I begotten thee? And again, I will be to him a Father, and he shall be to me a Son? 6 And again, when he bringeth in the firstbegotten into the world, he saith, And let all the angels of God worship him. 7 And of the angels he saith, Who maketh his angels spirits, and his ministers a flame of fire. 8 But unto the Son [he saith], Thy throne, O God, [is] for ever and ever: a sceptre of righteousness [is] the sceptre of thy kingdom. *||*

*||* *1 John 4:17* Herein is our love made perfect, that we may have boldness in the day of judgment: because as he is, so are we in this world. *||*

# AFFIRMATIONTRAIN 9TH DECEMBER.
I affirm that my spirit is enlightened and inspired by the Word of God. The grace of God is at work in me in an increasing measure, producing notable success and victory in my life. There’s order in my spirit, and the Lord has set me on course to do all things right, decently, and in order. I exude the excellence of the Spirit everywhere I go and in everything I do. Hallelujah! I am crucified with Christ; it’s no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh, I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me. Daily, the righteousness of God in my spirit is expressed on the outside; it’s natural for me to live right and fulfil the will of the Father, because of His righteousness in my spirit. I am changed, I make progress spiritually and move forward from glory to glory. Hallelujah! I make progress in every area of my life: in my health, ministry, finances, business and academics by the power of the Holy Ghost. Glory to God!

FG, States hit by N25b revenue shortfall
User Avatar Forum: Business/Investment
Posted by: Edoman - 12-08-2017, 04:34 PM - No Replies

Nigerians States, the Federal and Local Government in October shared N532.7 billion which shows a decline of N25.3 billion when compared to what they shared in September.
The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mr Mahmoud Isa-Dutse said this on Thursday in Abuja while briefing newsmen on the outcome of the monthly Federal Account Allocation Committee (FAAC).
Isa-Dutse attributed the decline to the decrease in revenue from export sales of 42.94 million dollars due to a decrease in crude oil production by 1.25 million barrels.
He said that even though, the average price of crude oil increase from 46.29 dollars per barrel to 48.66 dollars per barrel, it was not enough to make up for the loss in production.
“Some of the issues that impacted negatively on crude oil production were attributed to ageing facilities which resulted to shut-ins and shut-downs of pipelines at various terminals for repairs and maintenance.
“Petroleum Profit Tax increased significantly while Import Duty and Value Added Tax improved only significantly.
“Companies Income Tax and Oil Royalty recorded slight decreases in the month under review,” he said.
In summary, Isa-Dutse said after deductions as cost of collection by FIRS, Customs and DPR, the Federal Government received N205.7 billion, representing 52.68 per cent; states and N104.3 billion, representing 26.72 per cent.
The local governments, he said, received N80.4 billion, amounting to 20.60 per cent of the amount distributed.
Isa-Dutse announced that N40.8 billion representing 13 per cent derivation revenue was also shared among the oil producing states.
He said that the country generated N317.2 billion as mineral revenue and N124.4 billion as non-mineral revenue.
He said this showed an increase of N41.6 billion from what the country generated as mineral revenue and a decrease of N23.5 billion in non-mineral revenue from what was generated in the month of September.
Meanwhile the Chairman, Commissioners of Finance Forum, Mr Mahmoud Yunusa, has apologised for the lateness in holding the meeting, which was supposed to have taken place on Nov. 23.
He said the meeting was cancelled by the state governors due to discrepancies found in revenue figures presented by some of the revenue generating agencies.
Yunusa confirmed that the NNPC had increased what they had initially presented to FAAC as what they had generated after the states showed their displeasure.
He said that to avoid such occurrence, the states as a major stakeholder in NNPC, would henceforth keep “an eagle eye on the affairs of the NNPC”.
“Going forward we will be fully involved in what the NNPC does to avoid this kind of errors in future. We will scrutinise their books,” . http://www.businessdayonline.com/fg-stat...shortfall/

Arthur Eze Dragged To UK Court For Pulling Out Of £5million Mansion Deal
User Avatar Forum: Politics
Posted by: Edoman - 12-08-2017, 04:03 PM - No Replies

Popular billionaire prince, Arthur Eze, has been sued for £1.8 million by a couple who claimed they were left stranded after he pulled out of buying their £5million mansion.
Daily Mail reports that the couple, identified as Richard and Deborah Conway, told a High Court that they were left stranded after Prince Eze pulled out of buying their £5million mansion.
According to them, they were already committed to buying a house in Cambridge and had to take out an expensive bridging loan when the deal with Prince Eze was no longer tenable.
The couple claims they were forced to sell their home at a reduced price of £4.2 million, and are suing the prince to recover losses as well as “family expenses”.
However Prince Eze, who is said to be worth £2 billion, denied breaching his contract with the couple. He has also counter-sued Mr. and Mrs Conway for the return of a £500,000 deposit.
Mr Conway, 62, said he and his wife wanted to “pay off all our debts and start again” with an eye on retirement when they put their home up for sale for £5 million.
Their lawyer, Matthew Collings, said: “It was necessary for them to obtain bridging finance to fill the huge hole left by Prince Eze’s failure to complete, and failure to pay the balance of the purchase price.”
The court heard they exchanged contracts for the nine-bedroom home in August 2015, but Prince Eze had been acting through a “go-between” and had never seen the house.
The 62-year-old prince, the founder of oil firm Atlas Oranto Petroleum, paid a 10 per cent deposit of £500,000 but now alleges the deal was void because the Conways agreed to pay the agent a “secret commission” to secure the sale.
The Conways, who denied any inappropriate conduct, said the agent contacted them initially without Prince Eze’s knowledge and later raised the prospect of a £75,000 agent’s fee.
They claim the agent then “threatened to scupper the deal” unless he was paid.
Testifying in court, Prince Eze said he had good intentions when he agreed to buy the house; stressing that he wanted “a genuine investment in the UK”.
“I wasn’t concerned about the price but I was concerned about people being open,” he said.
“I thought there was something funny going on,” he added.
The Prince rejected a suggestion he had pulled out of the deal because of a drastic drop in oil prices.
Judge Andrew Keyser QC reserved his judgement to a later date.

Sad! 55 year old Bank Manager slumps, dies 3 days after giving birth to triplets; How she defied Doctors orders to please husband
[Image: woman%2Bobituary%2Bphoto.png]
A 55 year old woman, Mrs Judith Nwokemodo, who was reportedly a Fidelity Bank manger, has died three days after giving birth to triplets.
Facebook user, Nedy Mathias took to the platform to share how she defied doctor’s orders to conceive via IVF because her husband threatened to marry another wife if she doesn’t.
Mathias added that Mrs Judith Unoma Nwokemodo already had a son but her husband said he wanted more children, preferably another son, so she went against the reasoning that IVF has an age limit and at age 55 she was past the limit.
The deceased allegedly gave in and had the procedure. She eventually gave birth to triplets but three days later, she slumped and died in the toilet.

  Fuel Scarcity: PENGASSAN Threatens Strike
User Avatar Forum: Politics
Posted by: Edoman - 12-08-2017, 01:52 PM - No Replies

PENGASSAN has issued a seven-day ultimatum to the federal government to address injustice and lawlessness in the oil and gas sector companies or face a nationwide strike from December 18.
This is separate from the ongoing fuel scarcity across the country which the petroleum minister, Ibe Kachikwu, said on Thursday was based on inadequate supply.
Lumumba Okugbawa, General Secretary, Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria, PENGASSAN, gave the ultimatum in a statement on Thursday in Abuja.
Mr. Okugbawa said this was imperative in order to address anti-labour issues and lawlessness by some indigenous oil and gas companies and marginal field operators by relevant agencies of government.
He said if this was not addressed properly, it would culminate into the shutting down of all oil and gas installations, including disruptions to fuel supply and distribution across the country.
The unionist said the anti-labour practice includes the termination of employment of any worker who indicated willingness to belong to the union.
“Those that are threatened and compelled to disown the union are then treated as slave workers within their own country.
“The case of Neconde Energy Ltd (of Nestoil Group of companies) is particularly worrisome as the issue of dignity in labour and infringement on workers’ rights to Freedom of Association is foreign to them.
“This has led to mass sack of workers that joined the union and dehumanisation of some in total disregard to rule of engagement and the laws of the land.
“The actions of companies such as Neconde in mass sack of Nigerian workers contribute in no small measure to the unending militancy in the Niger Delta.’’
He said Neconde had not only conducted itself as being above the provisions of extant laws and regulations guiding the operations of oil and gas companies in Nigeria, but also severally boasted that no government agency would call it to order.
“Having explored all options without getting the necessary understanding, and an apparent failure of relevant authorities of government to call to order these recalcitrant organisations especially Neconde, we are giving the federal government and its relevant agencies seven-days’ notice to embark on nationwide strike effective December 18.
“If government fails to direct the management of Neconde and other companies to recall our sacked members, as the only option to address this injustice and lawlessness.
“PENGASSAN appeals to all Nigerians to show understanding and to use this window to stockpile adequate quantity of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) and other petroleum products that will last them during the period as this strike will be indefinite.’’

Babangida To Atiku: "Forget Your Presidential Ambition". Angry Atiku Shuns Press

2019 Presidency: Angry Atiku shuns press, others after talks with IBB
Journalists and supporters of former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar were, yesterday, shocked after the former vice-president came out from a meeting with former President Ibrahim Babangida with a long face reflective of a RED CARD shown to his 2019 presidential aspiration.
Atiku, who arrived Minna airport to a cheerful reception from his supporters, breezed past the same supporters after a one and half hour closed-door meeting with Babangida during which the latter was said to have asked him to forget his presidential aspiration.
Atiku meets Babangida
The former Vice President arrived the Minna International Airport in a private aircraft, marked T7AAA, at about 12.15 p.m.
He was met at the Airport by Niger State Deputy Governor, Alhaji Ahmed Ketso, and a team of PDP officials, led by the immediate past governor of the state, Dr. Muazu Babangida Aliyu; the state party chairman, Tanko Beji, among others.
Atiku then proceeded to greet scores of supporters who had been waiting to welcome him but had not been allowed by airport security personnel to approach the tarmac.
Following the airport ceremonies, he immediately drove straight to the former Military President’s uphill mansion and on arrival, was ushered into one of the sitting rooms.
After the exchange of pleasantries, Atiku, Babangida and former Governor Aliyu were left alone.
Vanguard gathered that after spending about 45 minutes in the meeting, Aliyu was also excused out of the sitting room, leaving only Atiku and Babangida who stayed together for another one and half hours.
Though none of the two men spoke at the end of the meeting, Vanguard reliably gathered that the ambition of the former president hit a brick wall as Gen. Babangida was said to have advised him to drop his presidential ambition
.
Atiku, who was besieged by anxious journalists immediately after the long meeting, snubbed them as his security aides prevented them from even going close to him.
“Please pave way; he is not ready to speak with you,’’ the body guards chorused, as their boss made straight for his waiting vehicle that drove him to the airport.
At the airport, the former Vice President also shunned party supporters and journalists who had waited patiently to bid him bye-bye.
Wearing a long face , the former vice president walked straight into the aircraft; a development Vanguard gathered arose from the negative nod from President Babangida to his presidential aspiration.

Publisher of Ovation International Magazine, Dele Momodu, has reacted to critics accusing him of being biased and in support of Atiku following his interview with him on Saturday.
In defense of being fair to all politicians, Momodu said he is too old and blessed to be a politician’s dog.
According to him, he was just doing his job and does not support Atiku Abubakar.
He wrote via twitter, “Most opinions are sentimental; I was very sentimental when I supported Buhari against Jonathan but my sentiment was never a blank cheque!
“I supported APC candidate for President but never joined the party because that was not my motive or mission for supporting Buhari.
“I do not want to start an argument or insult anyone but it is sad that you see doing my job professionally as support for Atiku or others.
“By the grace of God, I will continue to contribute my humble quota. I’m too old and too blessed to be any politician’s dog. God bless you.”

NJC Sacks Justice Adeniyi Ademola, Shuns His Resignation Letter

The National Judicial Court said on Thursday that it had recommended Justices Adeniyi Ademola and Segun Tokode, both of the Federal High Court for compulsory retirement over acts of misconduct.
This was despite that Justice Ademola claimed to have voluntarily resigned on Wednesday.
A statement by NJC’s Director of Information, Mr. Soji Oye, said on Thursday that the Council at its meeting on Wednesday recommended the two judges to President Muhammadu Buhari for compulsory retirement.
Oye stated, “He explained that the NJC, under the chairmanship of the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Walter Onnoghen, sanctioned Justice Ademola after finding the allegations contained in a petition sent against him by eight persons under the name of ‘Committee of Anambra State PDP House of Representatives Members-Elect’.
“The public is hereby informed to disregard news circulating on some news media that Hon. Mr. Justice Ademola has voluntarily retired.
“The purported voluntary retirement is clearly an afterthought as Council had taken action before his decision to forward any voluntary retirement letter.”

Looters have the guts to declare their Intent to reclaim Office, We will wait and see
User Avatar Forum: Politics
Posted by: Edoman - 12-08-2017, 01:45 PM - No Replies

President Muhammadu Buhari has challenged those who want to contest against him in 2019 to an integrity test.
Speaking at an interactive session with community leaders and stakeholders at the Coronation Hall of the Kano Government House to round off his two-day visit to the state, he said Nigerians would not let treasury looters return to power.
He said: “Those who ruled Nigeria without vision and looted the nation’s treasury are the same people boasting that they will displace the APC government and return to office.
“We will wait and see, if they think Nigerians are ignorant. They have the guts of declaring their intention to reclaim office.”
The President cautioned the opposition to be ready to respond to questions from Nigerians on how they governed for 16 years without genuine development.
The opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) says it will be returning to power in 2019 because, in its view, the APC is not doing well.
Buhari said: “Public office holders involved in sharp malpractices would incur the wrath of God. “Those assigned into public positions of trust were mortals, they will transit and appear before their creator to answer for the misdeeds carried out while holding forth the position entrusted in their care by the populace.”
To the President, “it is infuriating that those tasked with the administration of criminal justice in Nigeria were detected to be engaged in criminal acts”. “Diplomatic passports, huge amount of foreign and local currencies were found in the possession of a judge; how does this sound?”
Buhari also alleged that “from 1999 to 2014, Nigeria exported over two million barrels of crude oil daily at the cost of 100 USD, the monies realised were squandered and looted. They failed to save for the future and this is where we are today.”
He lamented that “corruption and corrupt practices have assumed a frightening dimension” and explained that “the fight against corruption is the most difficult task of the present administration’s agenda since its inception over two year ago”.
All the property recovered from treasury looters will be sold off and the proceeds remitted to the Federal Government’s coffers for use to provide the good things of life for Nigerians, he said.
Selling off the properties would serve as deterrent to politicians who want to steal, the President added.
Giving reasons for his thinking, Buhari said it was to avoid the mistake he made as a military ruler when the stolen assets he confiscated were returned to the owners after he left office.
President Buhari thanked Kano people for their warm reception and promised to play a part in the state’s development.
Buhari said: “The mammoth crowd, including children, women and youths who thronged the streets to catch a glimpse of me, is a signal to those on the other side of the divide that I am still popular and relevant at home.”
Emir of Kano Muhammad Sanusi 11 raised the alarm on the “danger lurking ahead over the massive importation of cheap beverages into the country”. I urge the Federal Government to do something urgent to stop this ugly trend.”
He called for the review of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) charter, saying the liberalisation agreement of cross-border trade does not favour Nigeria as massive smuggling of sub-standard products, such as rice, textile materials and beverages have continued to kill the nation’s economy.
Stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state adopted the President as their candidate for the 2019 general elections.
They also expressed their commitment and support for Governor Abdullahi Ganduje as their candidate for 2019.
According to a statement by the Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, the President did not say he accepted and did not decline the endorsement even after the party leaders promised to procure the nomination forms for him and threatened to sue him if he declined.
President Buhari merely beamed with smiles and went on to underscore the need for unity in the party and among the diverse peoples of Nigeria.
The APC stakeholders meeting was attended by Governor Ganduje, his deputy Prof Hafizu Abubakar, the state Chairman and the members of the State Executive Committee and members of the National Executive Committee of the party from Kano State.
Also present were two of the state’s senators; members of the House of Representatives from the state, the Speaker and 34 of the 40 members of the Kano State House of Assembly and the 44 party chairmen, their deputies and the Local Government Area secretaries of the APC. It was witnessed by Jigawa State Governor Muhammed Badaru Abubakar.
The state chairman of the APC, Alhaji Inuwa Abbas hinged their endorsement of the President on his achievements in the last two years especially on security, the war against corruption and the restructuring of the economy.
Speaking on a humorous note, Ganduje said the party was prepared to drag the President to court to force his acceptance of the second term ticket.
Buhari said he understood the clamour by the ordinary people on the streets who raised four fingers on each arm, ”meaning four-plus-four”. He, however, stressed the need to sanitise party politics by ridding it of vote buying and violence.
“What I saw in the elections in Kogi, Bayelsa and Rivers, the use of money and those headless bodies really upset me. I don’t wish to see that anywhere. I would not have won if money and killing was the modus of operation. That is my view of politics,” the President said.

2019: Senate President, Saraki speaks on dumping APC for PDP

Senate President, Bukola Saraki, has said that he will not dump the All Progressives Congress, APC.
The Senate President spoke with Punch through his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Yusuph Olaniyonu, on Tuesday.
He pointed out that as a founding father of the APC, he would remain in the party.
He said, “There is nothing like that and there is nothing to suggest that. Every member must come from somewhere. Are you going to ask the President [Muhammadu Buhari] whether he would go back to the Congress for Progressive Change?
“You’re not going to ask Asiwaju [Bola Tinubu] whether he will return to the Action Congress of Nigeria.
“Everybody has where they are coming from. As far as my principal is concerned, he is a founding father of this party. There is nothing like that.”
The former Governor of Kwara State was among 10 other members of the Senate, who on January 29, 2014, announced their defection from the PDP to the APC.
The 11 lawmakers had written to the then Senate President, Senator David Mark, to officially declare their defection.
A former Vice President, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar had over a week ago announced his resignation from the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, and last weekend he officially returned to the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.
His move prompted speculations that other APC bigwigs may also dump the party ahead of the 2019 general elections.

Kano APC stakeholders vow to sue Buhari if he doesn’t contest in 2019

Stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano state have vowed to sue President Muhammadu Buhari if he does not seek reelection.
Speaking at a meeting which took place at the Kano government house on Thursday, Abdullahi Abbas, the state chairman, and members of the executive committee of the party in Kano, promised to procure the nomination forms for Buhari.
They also asked Abdullahi Ganduje, governor of Kano, to seek reelection.
In attendance at the meeting were Hafiz Abubakar, deputy governor of Kano; Kabiru Gaya, a senator; Barau Jibrin, a member of the house of representatives; all members of the state house of assembly and 44 party chairmen in all the local government areas of the state.
However, Buhari did not say whether he accepted or did not accept the endorsement.
Beaming with smiles, Buhari underscored the need for unity in the party and the country.
Abbas said they endorsed the president because of his achievements in the last two years.
“Security is important for everyone, not just for Borno, Yobe and Adamawa states,” he said.
“It even more so for us as a commercial and industrial state. We are convinced that you are best for these times when the country has begun to muster energy and resources to develop agriculture, infrastructure and empower the younger citizens.”
Speaking on a humorous note, Ganduje said the party was prepared to force Buhari to accept the second term ticket.
Responding, Buhari said he understood the clamour of the ordinary people on the streets who raised four fingers on each arm, ”meaning four-plus-four”.
He said the need to sanitise party politics by ridding it of vote buying and violence.
“What I saw in the elections in Kogi, Bayelsa and Rivers, the use of money and those headless bodies really upset me,” he said.
“I don’t wish to see that anywhere. I would not have won if money and killing was the modus of operation. That is my view of politics.”

Agbakoba: Buhari sleeping on the job… he needs to sack his failing cabinet
User Avatar Forum: Politics
Posted by: Edoman - 12-08-2017, 01:38 PM - No Replies

Olisa Agbakoba, a former president of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), has asked President Muhammadu Buhari to overhaul his cabinet.
Agbakoba, leader of the recently-formed National Intervention Movement (NIM), says the president is “sleeping on the job”.
Speaking on Thursday during a briefing on NIM’s agenda, the senior advocate of Nigeria said: “We want government to work for Nigerians. Presently, it does not. President Buhari needs to take his job seriously. He is sleeping on the job. He needs to sack his entire cabinet because they have failed.
“Why for instance has nobody been fired for Mainagate? What is government’s plan for unemployment? Seventy per cent of our young people are unemployed. It is alarming! What is the federal government’s plan for power?
“Should the privatisation process be reversed? Why is our bidding and procurement processes failing? Why is government still appropriating billions of naira for turnaround maintenance of dead refineries?”
Agbakoba said rather than groan and complain, the civil society and the media should “wrest power from this ruling political elite to achieve a new system that is inclusive and works for all and not a few”.
He lamented the situation whereby “politicians charged with corruption present themselves for public office in every election circle”.
The lawyer criticised the president’s appointment of ministers, describing some of them as unfit to handle their portfolios.
“We need to ask simple questions. If APC promised us ABCD, how many have they fulfilled? How many ministers are actually competent to deliver on their ministries? For instance, the good friend of mine Dr. Kayode Fayemi has no competence to be minister of mines because that’s not his background,” he said.
“What is the competence of another good friend, a nice chap and a successful man, Udo Udoma (SAN), to be the minister of budget when he is a lawyer? So, the President should be called upon to dismantle his cabinet and pick the right people because the best guys are not there.
“Another good friend Geoffrey Onyeama is an intellectual property lawyer. He has no competence to be a foreign minister, but he’s there. The federal cabinet lacks competence and that’s what’s causing our problem.”
Agbakoba had in August described the Muhammadu Buhari administration as a
“ non-performing government” that cannot attract foreign direct investment.

*RHAPSODY OF REALITIES DAILY DEVOTIONAL (DECEMBER PDF => http://bit.ly/2cuJG6M

*BELIEVE AND AFFIRM .*

Friday, December 8th .
Pastor Chris

_*For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation (Romans 10:10).*_

Man is a spirit being, and not a body. His physical body is his domicile, where the spirit, the real man, lives. Your body isn’t you. Your spirit is the real you, and every human spirit has the capacity to believe; you don’t have to see to believe.

This debunks the general assumption that “seeing is believing”; that’s a contradiction, because you don’t have to “believe” what you can see. If you were standing beside a red Toyota car, and there’s nothing wrong with your eyes, you won’t say, “I believe there’s a red Toyota car parked beside me”; you know that such a car is there because you can see it. You only have to believe something you haven’t seen.

The word “believe” is the verb of faith, and faith is a noun. The action of faith is believing. So, you don’t say “seeing is believing.” Believing is acting your faith; putting your faith to work. For example, 1 Corinthians 3:21 says, _*“Therefore let no man glory in men. For all things are yours.”*_ You have to believe that all things are yours just as the scripture says, then live and act accordingly, even though you’re yet to literally see all things physically in your possession. You ought to believe and voice what you believe.

For example, the Bible says, _*“In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins”*_ (Colossians 1:14). Having believed this scripture in your spirit, declare, “In Christ I have my redemption; my riddance. He plucks me out of trouble; I’m rid of every pain. I have my riddance from sin, darkness, and from all things that are inconsistent with the life of Christ.” Hallelujah!

You believe, and then you affirm. Believing is with your spirit, but the affirmation seals it: _*“We having the same spirit of faith, according as it is written, I believed, and therefore have I spoken; we also believe, and therefore speak”*_ (2 Corinthians 4:13).

*PRAYER*

*Dear Father, I thank you for the entrance of your Word into my spirit; I believe, and therefore speak that I’m an heir of God and a joint-heir with Christ; the world belongs to me. I have no consciousness of lack or need, because the Lord is my shepherd; He’s made me self-sufficient. Blessed be God!*

*FURTHER STUDY:* *||* *Mark 11:23* For verily I say unto you, That whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith. *||*

*||* *Romans 10:8-10* But what saith it? The word is nigh thee, [even] in thy mouth, and in thy heart: that is, the word of faith, which we preach; 9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. 10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. *||*

Steve Harvey Sued for Allegedly Using His Charity for Fraud, Blames Oprah and Tyler Perry for Bad Financial Advice
[Image: steve%2Bharvey.jpg]
Hard times for Steve Harvey! The talk show host is being sued for fraud after allegedly stiffing a guy out of $20 million for the Steve and Marjorie Foundation as well as other ventures.
Vincent Dimmock claims he struck a deal with Harvey in April to raise the $20 million, and in return he says he was promised 12.5% of everything he brought in. Dimmock says in the lawsuit he had access to high-level execs, A-list entertainers and political figures including a former President, and he got pledges for $20 million.
According to the suit, Dimmock delivered on the first million but Harvey refused to
pay him his commission. Dimmock claims Harvey never intended to pay him and then goes on to make various allegations.

Dimmock says he introduced Harvey to an investor in May, and during their meeting he allegedly disparaged women, blamed Oprah Winfrey and Tyler Perry for giving him bad financial advice and also blamed Barack Obama for Harvey’s “disastrous meeting with Donald Trump.”
He says Harvey and his foundation were in bad financial shape because of a series of P.R. gaffes, including mocking Asian men and meeting with Trump.
We reached out to Harvey’s agent, Todd Frank, who tells TMZ, “It sounds fake. Steve is the most loyal guy in the world. I’ve never been stiffed on a commission from Steve Harvey in 21 years.”

Nigerian singer and songwriter, Abinye David Jumbo better known as Mr 2Kay, has finally opened up almost 6-weeks after the terrible assaulted and robbed by thugs allegedly sent by Nigerian dancehall singer Burna Boy, at Eko Hotel back in October.

In an exclusive interview with LIB, the singer stated that he had reported Burna Boy to Timaya before the incident and Timaya had called for a truce, it seems that did not work as Mr. 2Kay was severely beaten in the assault.

2Kay also revealed that he had received a lot of calls from Burna Boy apologising for what he did, but he’s having none of it as he wants the truth to come out.

  Konga Should Sell To Jumia

As I was flying across the Atlantic, from South Africa back to U.S., Konga fired 60% of its workforce. November 30, 2017 would be remembered as the day of the Big Pivot in the Nigeria’s ecommerce sector. It was a day that Konga provided a new vision which current and future ecommerce entrepreneurs could examine. Yes, Konga is killing Pay-on-Delivery, a wasteful feature that adds nothing but cost. Going forward, Konga will be “prepay only”, a feature which has worked in Nigeria, for generations. In our trust-challenged society, lacking credit system, people prepay for services. Every industry has adopted the prepay only, from buying food to paying for phone services  The sectors which are not using prepay are usually the ones that struggle: think of electricity distribution companies (Discos) and water boards. Of course, the Discos have an advantage in that they can estimate your bills, irrespective of usage, and earn income for services not rendered (a topic for another day).

Quote:Konga, one of Nigeria’s biggest e-commerce players, has sacked over 300 members of staff—around 60% of its total workforce, Quartz has learned from one of the affected staff employees, who asked not to be named.
CEO Shola Adekoya informed staff of the cuts today (Nov. 30) and said the company will adopt a leaner business model. Despite speculation that Sim Shagaya, the company’s founder and former CEO, could be returning to the role, Adekoya confirmed to Quartz that he’s staying on. Shagaya stepped down in Jan. 2016 two weeks after Konga sacked 10% of its staff.
The Konga layoff is consequential because it is reducing capacity in a company that needs more people. The implication of this is that Konga is not looking for growth, but rather to “journey along” in its present territory. As a company that is huge in logistics, it needs more people to expand territory, but here, it is cutting capacity. That is not a good sign. (Please read on, Konga may have a reason to reduce manpower, as it transmutes into a subscription classified portal. But yet, for the fact that it is still offering logistics services, the business did not make the pivot on the position of strength.)

Sim Shagaya, Founder of Konga (credit, Guardian)

Konga is redesigning its business model with the following changes:
  • It has phased out pay-on-delivery: That is a brilliant strategy which will improve its operating cost. Konga is coming late here to prepay only playform. Companies like Payporte and partially Jumia have moved away from this wasteful feature. It is the worst feature in the Nigerian ecommerce sector.
Quote:In mid-November, Konga.com made a bold step and became a prepay only platform. In recent years, we have explored several solutions for payment and e-commerce in Nigeria and concluded that prepay is a necessary approach for our business and the market
The struggle with payment in Nigeria is huge. Konga has KongaPay and is still struggling to effectively collect payment. It means we have a long way to go to fix payment in Nigeria.
  • Subscription-based marketplace: Konga will move from commission-based marketplace to subscription-based marketplace. The advantage is that merchants will pay for listing even if their items are not sold. That provides consistent revenue to Konga provided the merchants like the new model. In the commission model, Konga would only make money, if and only if merchants’ items are sold. The subscription-based model gives a window that Konga is struggling in selling items on its portal. So, it wants to protect its cashflow and its interests, and will likely make lesser money than commission-based model.
  • Shut down warehouse service: Konga will not allow merchants to use its warehouse. This is also a clear sign that the items are not moving out of the warehouse very fast. So, if they are not selling well, there is no need of warehousing them. Konga wants to save that real estate cost.
  • Subscription classified service: Konga will not have an inventory. Going forward, it will only link merchants, who have subscribed for access to its platform, and buyers. Its logistics company, KOS, will remain available to support the delivery. Konga is making it easier for buyer and seller to contact each other since there is no risk of disintermediation: Konga is already paid by the subscription.
Quote:We have enabled a contact seller button that allows open communication between and seller and buyer in cases where pay on delivery transactions still need to be carried out directly between the seller and the buyer.
Konga has changed its business model and should not be written in the context of Alibaba or Amazon: Konga is now a B2C (business to consumer) version of Craigslist where the business pays subscriptions. Most global marketplace earns commissions, but Konga is asking for its merchants to pay subscriptions to access its portal. We will see in coming quarters if that model will unlock the opportunities in Nigeria. In Nigeria, Konga will compete with OLX and Jiji than Jumia.
The Ecommerce Problems
Konga’s challenges are not uncommon. In a well-received piece in Harvard Business Review, I explained why running ecommerce will remain challenging in Africa for a very long time. From Kalahari to Mocality, companies have struggled to find a model that works. Some of the key challenges (modified) are as follows:
Quote:Distrust: Rich Africans have yet to embrace online shopping, due to online fraud.
Cost of broadband: Africa enjoys tremendous growth in mobile internet which is the popular means for people to access the web. But the cost remains high
Logistics: Ecommerce is very more complicated with nonfunctioning postal systems. Online businesses operate delivery motorbikes, which increase the cost of doing business there.
African open market: In Africa, there are “markets” everywhere, starting with the security guards who run stores in front of their masters’ mansions. There are open markets, supermarkets, and even unemployed youth selling things at traffic stops in major cities. An e-commerce company must beat these entities on prices to be competitive..
Literacy rates: Even if all the infrastructure and integration issues are fixed, illiterate citizens may be unable to participate directly on e-commerce sites that require reading and writing skills.
Konga has worked to tackle many of these challenges. As an industry pioneer, it was working and learning on the process. That is usually very expensive. Moving into subscription marketplace is the latest experiment in that firm.
The Valuation
The difficulties in the market have affected Konga. Even though it has raised about $100 million, the company, according to its major investor, is worth less than $50 million. The challenges in the operating environment have depressed the valuation. Konga is estimated to have less than 200,000 active users in its platform.

Quote:Much of what is known about Konga’s operations has been gleaned from the quarterly reports of its investors, particularly Kinnevik, which owns a 34% stake in the startup. Last year, Kinnevik’s second quarter report pegged Konga’s active customer base to 184,000 (pdf)—less than 1% of Nigeria’s population—suggesting the company was having difficulties growing its customer base.
Market Competition
Interestingly, there is no major competition in the Nigerian ecommerce sector. What is happening is that there is no market size. Jumia and Konga are not destroying values, and practically are not big competitors. Their problem is simple: they are serving a very small market. The Nigerian ecommerce market is than 1% of the total retail sector.
Jumia is bigger but not necessarily doing better. The advantage for Jumia is that it has a more active and larger funding pipeline from Rocket Internet, its German parent company. Konga’s backers are traditional investors while Jumia is owned by an operator, a quasi digital conglomerate with more active roles in its businesses. But despite all the monies they have thrown in Nigeria, their impacts are marginal: they have not moved the sector and continue to struggle to unlock the opportunities.
Why Konga is Struggling
By reducing its staff capacity, Konga will lose any economies of scale in the traditional ecommerce business model. You could say that it reduced its geographical coverage. When an ecommerce company does that, it means it is losing ground. The driving challenge to Konga is the marginal cost which is dominated by the distribution cost. By operating its motorbikes, instead of relying on a national postal service (Nigeria has none), the biggest cost element in Konga business is offline. That is why I see Konga as a logistics company. Its marginal cost is driven by logistics and not what happens on the web. And it is that marginal cost that will make Konga to narrow the cities it does business. When a company narrows where it delivers its services, you know that the company is not a web company: Konga has never been a web business, just as every ecommerce operator in Nigeria.
As the marginal cost remains high, typical in Nigeria with no logistics, Konga’s capacity to scale remains stunted. The scalable advantage is near zero because the marginal cost bounds where it can operate, geographically.
Quote:Your digital startup cannot grow if you do not have a scalable advantage. You must have a means to add new users at a cost model that tends towards zero. In essence, if the market has been perfect (it is not, and nothing is), you must serve customers at zero prices, on the web. But you do not do that since you need to make profit to exist as a business. That is why you have a cost on your apps or you extract tax via advertising.
From the Quartz piece, it seems that Konga is also struggling with its marketplace, where it does not carry inventory but takes commissions on closed sales. The company will be phasing out the storage of inventories for merchants, in its warehouse as noted above. In other words, Konga does not see value in selling the items for merchants, at commissions.
The simple reason for taking this decision is that the items are not selling well enough to justify allocating warehouse spaces for them. Possibly, Konga will free the warehouse and then stock with its own items (that is not an option with the new business model). Of course, no one can fault Konga for its strategies, but marketplace is a model that has worked in many places in the world. Alibaba operates largely on that model. But Nigeria is not China. Had Konga been able to execute that model, it would have enjoyed the benefits inherent in aggregation construct where it becomes an ecommerce aggregagor, earning commissions.

But for everything I have noted in this section, Konga has a model for marketplace but in this case pursuing it with subscription, not the typical commission. It can enjoy the aggregation construct benefits though the income will be lower as subscription guarantees cashflow but is usually lower than income from commission. In other words, it is sure of income when merchants subscribe, but over time, it will leave more money on the table if it has gotten the commission model to work. I think this is brilliant if there is scale: Konga is doing the usual Prepay even in the way it relates with its merchants.
Konga Should Sell to Jumia
The Nigerian ecommerce market is still at infancy. Someone will make money in it but it will take time. I have noted that growth will begin from 2022. That is the year it will make sense to start an ecommerce business in Nigeria. Many things will align by then. But the companies which are in the market now, they need to find how to survive until market indicators improve. But doing that will not be easy. Kalahari, founded by Naspers, Africa’s most valuable company, exited the ecommerce sector because it felt that it could not be losing money for long, even though it knew that the moment would come one day.
According to the Quartz link I referred above, Konga has about 10,000 merchants. Let us assume that 20% will subscribe and pay annual fee of N50,000 ( a very tough challenge in Nigeria when OLX and Jiji are far cheaper or even free), the total revenue for Konga will be N100 million. Even after firing 300 people, Konga has close to 250 staff remaining. There is no way this model will not call for another mass sack in coming months as the revenue growth will not be substantial to cushion loses.
Simply, Jumia is not making money. Konga is not making money. I think Konga should sell itself to Jumia. There is nothing wrong with that, peers do combine when markets stall: Elance/Odesk (now UpWork),  Groupon / LivingSocial,  Sirius / XM and  Rover / DogVacay did that. And in near future, Uber and Lyft will merge, I have predicted.
Quote:No one has to wait any longer to know the grand plan of Jumia. Simply, Jumia wants to build a massive market share. That market share comes first before any push for profitability. In one of the most candid comments in the industry, Jumia revealed that it is yet to attain profitability.  The Global CEO, Jeremy Hodara, made that revelation during a press conference where Jumia announced that it would be making loans to some of its Nigerian partner-vendors.
Because of Jumia’s ambition, Konga could be attractive. Konga has been severely wounded for any further fight to make sense. I do think the best for Konga is to sell itself now that it can generate higher value. To win in this market, it needs not just revenue but manpower since it is running a logistics business, despite the pivot to subscription classified model. By constantly cutting down manpower, it means it is not taking the fight to the traditional stores like Shoprite and supermarkets. That is weakness that will further erode its capacity to generate more value to shareholders. It can save itself from these challenges by selling to Jumia.

Bukola had thought December would be a month to remember as she had planned to splurge on herself.
“Just here thinking of how turnt I’ll be in Dec. Honestly think I deserve it. Lol I know I’ll spend the money I don’t have but we will save in 2018,” she had tweeted.
But a reverse was the case when she lost her job a few days after the tweet.
Bukola, who used to work with Konga, an online store, got laid off alongside 400 of her colleagues.
After she tweeted about losing her job and pleading for job referrals on her Twitter page on Sunday, Bukola couldn’t have envisaged the level of response she got.
“I was among the 400+ staff that got laid off at Konga last week,” she wrote.
“If you are in need of a customer service representative, social media analyst to be precise, someone who’s efficient in handling customers’ queries? I’m the right one for you. Pleaseee retweet.”
In the space of 24 hours, the tweet already has almost five thousand retweets, 99 comments and a thousand likes.
Here are some of those who tweeted at her with job opportunities.

Konga explains sack of 70% workforce; scrapping Konga Daily, PoD, etc.
User Avatar Forum: E-Commerce
Posted by: e-guru - 12-08-2017, 01:56 AM - No Replies

TechCity has gathered that e-commerce powerhouse Konga fired 70% of its workforce and the affected workers got informed about the termination of their appointment via a Video Conference call with the CEO of the company, Shola Adekoya. Addekoya informed them about the development and why the company was taking the action.

Quote:Each affected staff member got a handsome severance package from the company.
Reasons behind the action
Last night, circumstances surrounding the action taken were largely hear-say; ranging from reports that the company did not have enough money to a purported managerial downsizing. Nothing factual or credible to be reported. But this morning, in an attempt to be ahead of the discussions, the management of the company issued a statement explaining the rationale behind the action saying it is overhauling its strategy starting with scrapping pay on delivery option.

“This decision was taken as part of its measures to become more efficient and to focus on the orders that consumers really want,” Konga said in a statement gotten by TechCity.
According to Adekoya, the company in recent years explored several solutions for payment and ecommerce in Nigeria and concluded that prepaid is the necessary approach for our business and the market.
“Given the cost of inflation and increasing challenges managing payment-on-delivery, as well as the resulting level of order cancellations on the platform, we had to take this decision,” he said.
While informing customers about the change in policy, he said buyers can still directly talk to sellers in case they both want to offer the option. Although this may not work as sellers had been complaining about the numerous problems associated with pay on delivery.
Adekoya said the platform actually transformed to a prepay only platform in mid-November 2017, and there has been a solid shift towards online payment by customers.
“Since we switched over, we have seen a marked increase in online payment which is a much more seamless experience and we sincerely appreciate all our customers who have trusted us enough to begin paying online for their orders” he said.
Ending warehousing activities
He also revealed that the company is closing its warehouses which he said is responsible for a headcount reduction as well as scrapping Konga Daily; its grocery delivery service.
“Letting go of colleagues and friends is not an easy decision, but one that naturally stems from these changes,” Adekoya said.
The statement did not say much about the fate of the current warehouse facilities but it said enough. Konga will not offer warehouse services again which means it will be saving money on the expensive cost of running warehouses and as such, it had to let go of its affected workers.
How will the market respond to the end of pay on delivery and how will the end of warehousing affect the company’s operations? Only time with tell.

The church, tithing and the rest of us

Niran Adedokun

nadedokun@gmail.com

I did not think I would join this unending conversation on the propriety of paying tithes until I saw a friend who is not of the Christian faith share a critical article in the past week.

That meant two things to me: The first being that the Church can no longer hide from the scrutiny of the world and the other being that a lot of people, who do not necessarily have an understanding of the spiritual essence of some of the doctrines of Christianity also join in the condemnation of the same.

I find such interloping unacceptable and preposterous. In the same way in which I would not impugn the wisdom in the doctrine that a practising Muslim must visit the Holy City of Mecca in his lifetime or that a worshipper of the Yoruba god of farming must not eat the new yam until he sacrifices unto his deity, I do not expect non-Christians to fault my subscription to the payment of tithes in church. All of these gestures, to my understanding, bear deep spiritual undertones, which may make sense to no other person but the one who connects with them.

But I also realise that intervening in the rights of people to be what they have chosen to be, even when their choices do not necessarily impede on our own freedom, is a common pastime of the average Nigerian. This is why I query the prospect that democracy, the way the West observes it, will ever work with us.

Democracy and democratic principles thrive on the ability to allow a person be what they desire to be as much as they do not hurt another’s interest or trample on the rule of law, rule of law, being the emblem of the state’s paternalistic obligation to its citizens. Democracy has, over the years, evolved to become the most apt exemplification of the aphorism: “live and let live.”

But that is not our life as a people. Nigerians, no matter how old they are or what status they attain, must still defer to their biological parents and people of their parents’ age. The latter group does not even need to be of any close affinity. The passage of years, evidenced by any physical sign, coveys the licence for the aged to guide you and  sometimes, insist on what you must and must not do. This is why some politicians, become godfathers circumventing the general will, imposing their political decisions on the people and sometimes, maintaining that without their way, there would be no other way.

This is the reason why a journalist of the status of Bashorun Dele Momodu would interview a politician that is not in the favour of a vocal set of Nigerians and they do not just condemn him but also query his integrity. It is why a politician becomes evil simply by not associating with a preferred set of people. Nigerians have a standard that they have painted in their minds for everyone and once you don’t live by those standards, you are a renegade, regardless of your age, qualification or status in life. I suggest this is a major reason why we will struggle with democracy for a long time to come. But I digress.

Concerning Christianity, my point is that if you do not belong to the faith and do not subscribe to a doctrine, you really should restrain from questioning the right of people to worship in the way they choose.

Having said that, it makes sense to say here that those who profess the Christian faith are manifestly the same people who invite the intervention and sometimes, the pillorying of people outside the faith. At the same time, one should clarify that while it is possible to adjudge such outspoken Christians as unfaithful, such random condemnation would beg the issue.

What we should do, when people within our number elect to wash our attire in public glare is to call them aside and interrogate their motivation, which may sometimes, simply border on lack of information.

Experience will show that not every rebellion is borne out of malice. Some indeed emanate from a deep quest for better understanding or for the reform of systems that seem to alienate. And in such instances, reasoning together, rather than returning fire for fire, should be the strategy.

But the Church in Nigeria lacks strategy! With due respect, the Church in Nigeria, if there could be anything so addressed in the sense in which the proponents of the idea conceptualised it, is the first enemy of itself.

Principally, an organised body, which is what a church should be, should speak with one voice. It should have a common position on the very essential ingredients of the faith and be ready to speak up for the faith every time there is a need to. Most importantly, such a body must be ready to answer questions, raised by adherents. And I dare say, answering such questions should be without regard to motive. The Church should, without minding whether inspiration came from mischievous or altruistic quarters, attend to queries from the faithful, and when need be, from outside the faith,  with all joy.

After all, Christ, whose prototype the Church is, spoke about and lived for love for all men! It is the failure of the church to treat posers with such childlike affection, which results in the incessant misunderstanding and suspicions that there is more than meets the eye in its operations.
And this is another issue that the church must address as a collective. How is it that the entry barrier to ministry in Nigeria is so low? How is it that there is no self-check or regulation, or is it that every jobless man and woman who can afford a bible becomes a pastor? How is it that there is so much alleged abuse amongst the clergy and the Church is unable to confront and discourage impostors? It is correct to say that there have been forewarnings about deceptions and the manipulations of the people’s minds in the name of religion even before the advent of Christianity but that does not preclude self-censorship within the faith; it indeed should encourage the faithful to self-check.
However, not even the absence of such internal regulation detracts from the very constructive roles that faith organisations have played in the development of Nigeria.
In reference to the assumptions that have become rife about the lack of accountability in the administration of tithes for instance, a more united and outspoken church would have shown the world that tithes paid into churches are not only deployed into the sustenance of church leaders, but also into the training of millions of under-privileged children, the provision of food, medical treatment, rehabilitation of youths and a myriad of other social ventures whose amplification the conservative nature of the Christian service discourages.

That point would have been made without detracting from the need for relative comfort for those called into ministry. The life of a pastor is not just about preaching on Sundays, even though that itself is no mean responsibility. But in addition to that, it is a call unto unending denial signified by sleepless nights spent interceding for others and hours of counselling and tending to the spiritual and other needs of people.

There are claims that people are manipulated into paying tithes, but that is laughable. Even if pastors talk endlessly about the importance of paying tithes to receiving God’s blessings, the faithful obey because of their self-interest. Otherwise, how are pastors able to convince people to pay tithes but they cannot stop them from committing all the atrocities that litter around us?
Should this also preclude accountability in church affairs? Absolutely not. But then accountability to whom? I do not imagine that anyone who claims to have been called into the service of God and humanity would object to being answerable to anyone who contributes to the purse of his fold. In the same way in which every congregation should, in accordance with the laws of the land, audit their account periodically and prepare same ready for inspection at any time.

Such level of probity should be the default state of the Church for that is the only way in which it would remain in the world without necessarily being of the world. In spite of the noise and level of compromises around it, the Church must remain the light as was contemplated from the start. That is the only way not to bring the faith into disrepute and affect the world positively in line with the great commission

For the fifth time, Zimbabwean man, William Masvinu, has won the title of Mr. Ugly.
He had lost last year to Maison Sere in controversial circumstances. However, he won  this year’s edition of the competition held over the weekend in Ruwa area of Zimbabwe.
The “Ugliest Man in the Land” walked away with $500, and a cow.

Fanuel Musekiwa was first runner-up and he went home with $200; while Maison Seregot got $100 for being the second runner up.
Masvinu said he was happy to reclaim the crown after losing it last year.
“No one can dispute that I am the ugliest person in Zimbabwe. I now want to take my ugliness outside the country. If there is Mr. Ugly World, I am confident I will bring the crown to Zimbabwe,” he said.
Musekiwa, who came second, promised to work hard next year so that he could wrest the crown from Masvinu.
“I will be working hard on my looks and the way I present myself. Come next year, I am going to take over the crown,” he said.
Organiser of the pageant, David Machowa, known in entertainment circles as Apama, said he was happy with this year’s edition.
“This year’s event was bigger and better. It coincided with the braai festival where 14,000kg of meat were eaten,” he said.
Masvinu caught the eye of the nation through his touted ugliness which has seen him winning the crown a record five times.

He is mobbed everywhere he goes because people want to catch a glimpse of him.
In the process, he has pocketed hundreds of dollars because of his “talent.”
He even had a grand ‘wedding’ where his ugliness was paraded in the street of Harare.

What is the legal age of consent for girls in Nigeria?

What is the legal age of consent for girls in Nigeria?
The age of consent is the age that a girl child is legally allowed to deflower. Who knows what applies in Nigeria? In all 50 States of The United States for instance, President Obama signed a bill to lower the age to 13. In Africa, South Africa has a somewhat complex regulation when it comes to the legal age of consent. Generally the legal age of consent is considered to be age 16 and above for all genders and sexual orientations, but certain exceptions apply, including that of sex with someone with a mental disability and other factors. The sex act must also be consensual between both parties. Persons also need to be wary of the age of becoming an adult (age 18 in South Africa), where the parents of a
child still have authority about what he or she may consent to whilst under age 18.
South Africa also has a complex definition for what is considered a ‘sexual act’, and it is important that all persons are well aware of what is considered sex as per definition of the law.
The consent  between the ages of 12 and 16 has also been hotly debated in newspapers, social media and even a court of law, with no proposal or amendment to the current act to resolve the issue (by May 2014).
Consensual sex is also allowed between children where one is below 16 and the other one above 16, provided that the age difference between them is not more than two 2 years. For example a 17-year-old will be able to have consensual sex with a 15-year-old.
NOTE: It is illegal to have sex with a child under the age of 12, and for a child under the age of 12 to have sex with any person (regardless of age), even if the sex is consensual between the two persons.
Now , for Nigeria, is it age 18, above or below?

Why Governor Okorocha created Ministry Of Happiness & why he made his younger sister Commissioner
[Image: COMMMISONER-FOR-HAPINESS%2Bin%2BImo%2BState.jpg]
Nepotism is when you appoint your blood relation to office abi? Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo state has been under fire on social media over the appointment of his sister as Commissioner of Happiness and Couples Fulfilment.

The governor, who only weeks ago sparked controversy over the erection of statues in the capital, stirred another, with the appointment of sister, Mrs Ogechi Ololo, into a ministry that is controversial in Nigeria. She was among the 28-man cabinet sworn into office on Monday.

Here is how governor and his sister replied critics...

I am truly surprised by the outbursts of young Nigerians on his excellency; Dr Rochas Okorocha. If you don’t understand something, keep quite, read and research. Make good use of your senses

— Commissioner for Happiness (@MrsOgechiOlolo)

NAN reports that she cited United Arab Emirates, which she said has a minister of happiness..

The Commissioner said the mandate of her office includes ensuring citizens of Imo state remain happy despite the economic meltdown and Biafran fiasco.

Others include ensuring couples in Imo state have a reduced divorce rate and better fulfilled marriages and cater to welfare for the average Imo indigene.

In a time when divorce is at an all time high, I will use my good office to ensure couples in Imo will be fulfilled and serve as an example to the world”, she said.

Okorocha has also stoutly defended his decision to establish a Ministry of Happiness and Purpose Fulfillment.

He said the aim was to erase his observation of bitterness rampant among the people of the state, according to a statement on Tuesday.

He also defended his decision to appoint his sister as the commissioner of the new ministry.

The real essence of life is to be happy and to fulfill one’s purpose in life. Government officials are elected to address this. This is the very reason people elect their leaders to guarantee their happiness and purpose fulfillment.”

There is no activity of mankind that is not geared towards providing happiness.

Unfortunately, this vital element of our social lives has not been properly addressed. Governments at different levels have created several ministries and departments to achieve this, yet people are bitter, angry with hate speeches which lead to crisis, war and even terrorism.

In today’s world, especially in our country, millions of people are not fulfilling their purpose in life because of lack of mentorship and guidance. There is complete talent abuse as people no longer engage in life activities suitable to their talents.

Sometimes in university environments, students are meant to study courses they ordinarily would like to do.

This has given rise to why we have people who are favored, do work against their natural will just to survive.

Happiness and Purpose Ministry therefore, is established for the lost time to correct the policy framework to guide Ministries and Department son what they must do to guarantee the citizens happiness and contribute better to the society,” he said.

His Chief Press Secretary, Mr Sam Onwuemeodo issued the statement.

The choice of Mrs Ogechi Ololo; a Masters Degree Holder in Computer Science, USA who has been the Deputy Chief of Staff to the Governor on Domestic Matters and Food Security can be described as a round peg in a round hole. Before her appointment as the supervisory commissioner, She was charged with the responsibility of Liaising with the Federal Government on N-Power Project, CBN Anchor project& BOI, Empowerment Projects,” the governor added.

Actress Joke Silva reveals how she accidentally discovered she is an adopted child of Dr Silva
[Image: joke-silve.jpg]
Wao!!! At the recent Annual Conference of Heritage Adoption Support and Advocacy Group (HASAAG) in Lagos, actress Joke Silva shocked many when she revealed that she was not a natural child of late lawyer, Chief E.A Silva who was the then Babajiro of Lagos and his late wife, Dr Abimbola Silva, reputed to be Nigeria’s first female medical doctor.

Speaking at the event, the actress revealed that her family also kept the fact that she was adopted a secret from her, until she accidentally discovered that fact: “But I got to know years later when I wanted to travel and was looking for my passport where my
mum kept it.
Since she was not around, I opened the box in her absence and I saw my adoption papers. I never discussed it with my mum because I felt it was something that would hurt her, that was why, it was kept secret from me.”
Before her discovery however, an older cousin had tried to let her know the fact that she was not a natural child of the Silvas’.
She said:

“I remembered going out with my cousin and we met a big cousin.
She introduced me as ‘my cousin’s daughter and this is Dr Silva’s daughter.’ Then, the older cousin was like, ‘Dr. Silva ke? Se Doctor Silva bimo ni? (meaning does Dr. Silva have a child?) .

I was so confused and when I got home I told my mum, ‘I met this lady that says you never had a child.’ My mum froze and she said, ‘don’t mind them, they are used to rubbish talk.’
But I had incredible memories of my amazing legal parents for allowing me to do my A Level in England and going to one of the best schools in Bournemouth.”
According to the reports by kemiashefonlovehaven, the 56-year-old actress said before her adoption, she lived in a foster home of the Red Cross in Yaba, Lagos.

Wole Soyinka reacts to reports that his 20-year-old son wedded a 30-year-old woman in The United States
[Image: soyinka.JPG]

Sometime in November, this year, reports Online had it that Wole Soyinka's son, a 20-year old man wedded a 30-year old woman in the U.S and that the Nobel laureate winner was not happy with the union.

Wole Soyinka has finally reacted to the report...

Soyinka spoke at the Freedom Park on Lagos Island during the presentation of two books-‘Between Defective Memory and the Public Lie’ and ‘Green Cards, Green Gods’ under Intervention six and seven series. Soyinka, who was reacting to the negative social media reportage of the wedding of his son, Tunlewa and Nneka Ekechukwu said some people were trying to get at him by painting the wedding in bad light.

According to Soyinka, his son and Nneka had become victims of other people’s viciousness, asking whether it was a crime now for people to get married, while taking a swipe at the social media.

He said the reports on social media said his son, a 20-year man wedded a 30-year old woman, which he said was purely a lie as his son is 27 years while Nneka is 26 years old.

The so called social media, some people went and published the pictures, that wedding took place in June, nobody heard about it, I like to do things quietly, so very limited people received invitation. But why publish on your facebook such egregious lies saying my son was 20 years old and married a 30 year old woman.

They have a right to marry, but the fact of the case is that if my son, Tunlewa, I should know, is 27 years and Nneka is 26 years, so what purpose? When I say these things are not spontaneous, it is part of what I am talking about. You cannot make a mistake between 20 years and 30 years on the one hand and 26 years and 27 years on the other hand, you sit down and you concocted a lie; you have purpose.

What that purpose is, I know because it is not really those kids you are getting at, it is Wole Soyinka, it is not even the parents of the girl; the internet maggots who creep out from time to time to try and get into the world that they are still alive,” he lamented.

Soyinka added that the social media concocted another lie that he refused to attend his son’s wedding in the first place and that he had to be persuaded to do so, a report he found very offensive.

In his words: “They go further to say that Wole Soyinka refused to attend the wedding in the first place, that I had to be persuaded. I approved the wedding. I don’t understand this, nobody, not even my late parents would try to stop me from marrying anybody whom I wanted; so it is inconceivable that I will say to any of my children that I disapproved the person you want to marry, it is not possible, go and talk to any of them. So what right has anybody to sit down and said that I refused to attend and that I had to be persuaded eventually?

You see, is this linked to the alleged disparity between the two? no, that is not at all, there is a tribal thing involved. There are people who think they can use me to start a tribal war in this country. This is not the first time; a lecture which I delivered in Harvard two years ago was deliberately misreported, concocted; this is not a question of misreading or mishearing, no, something I never said. I was supposed to have said something about the Igbo, something derogatory, this came up and this went on facebook and of course an industry started immediately.

Having failed in that one, I think they were disturbed by my son marrying an Igbo girl, this girl was born in America. They were so shocked. Why are they telling these stories, what have I done to them? Why put young people through such an emotional rigour.

I want to say here that we are dealing with seriously dysfunctional people, not only dysfunctional people, but people from dysfunctional homes. I am saying to you, whatever you are, you facebook operators who think you are there to ruin people’s lives, you come from dysfunctional homes, you are to be pitied, but you are also to be fought because you are dangerous, you are very dangerous, you are danger to society, danger to humanity and danger to your own people.

7 WAYS TO GET RID OF VAGINAL ODOR FAST

7 Ways To Get Rid Of Vaginal Odor Fast
[Image: vagina-smell.jpg]
Unusual vaginal odor happens from time to time. Even when you’re taking good care of your body and your vagina, you may experience unfamiliar smells. What’s not normal, however, is persistent or strong odors.

Occasionally, you may need a little help getting rid of an odor. The following techniques may help you naturally eliminate unusual vaginal odors:

1. Practice good hygiene

Clean the outside of your vagina regularly with a washcloth and mild soap. Loofahs may cause small tears and expose the area to possible infection. Cleansing will wash away dead skin, sweat, and dirt. Don’t use perfumed soaps or body washes. The scents and chemicals may upset your vagina’s natural pH. Bar soaps may be more gentle than body wash.

2. Use only exterior deodorizing products

If you want to use any sprays or perfumes, only use them on the outside of your vagina. Don’t insert them. They can upset your natural chemistry and lead to bigger problems.

3. Change your underwear

If you normally wear satin, silk, or polyester panties, make the switch to 100 percent cotton. Cotton is breathable and does an excellent job wicking away sweat and fluids from your body. Excess moisture can upset your natural bacteria levels.

4. Consider a pH product

Over-the-counter (OTC) products may be helpful for restoring your vagina’s natural pH. If you try one and the odor remains or grows worse, make an appointment with your doctor. You may need to use a different product or look for a stronger prescription alternative.

5. Try essential oils

This treatment has very little medical research to support it, but anecdotal evidence suggests tea tree oil, a type of essential oil, helps eliminate vaginal odor. This essential oil has natural antimicrobial and antifungal properties, which may help reduce and eliminate bacteria. First, mix a few drops of tea tree oil with water. Then, apply a drop or two to the outside of your vagina. Repeat this for three to five days. If symptoms don’t improve or worsen, discontinue use.

6. Soak in vinegar

Frequent hot baths and hot showers can upset your natural pH, but one type of bath may be useful. Pour a cup or two of apple cider vinegar into a warm bath and soak for 20 minutes. Vinegar may naturally reduce bacteria.

7. Prescription treatments

Prescription treatments can help eliminate underlying causes that are contributing to the odor. If your home or OTC treatments aren’t successful, it may be time to seek treatment from your doctor.

The Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG), has attributed the ongoing scarcity of fuel across the country on a cabal in the downstream sector.

The group said that tanker drivers were not on strike.

NUPENG, in a release yesterday, said its members were not responsible for the present shortage of petroleum products being experienced nationwide.

According to its president, Mr Igwe Achese, Petroleum Tanker Drivers (PTD) branch of NUPENG are working and lifting products to the nooks and crannies of the country.Achese said, “NUPENG is not responsible for the present shortage of petroleum products being experienced nationwide.

“Our members in the Petroleum Tanker Drivers, PTD, branch of NUPENG are working and lifting products to the nooks and crannies of the country.”

The statement further blamed the policy makers of the country for not adhering to its calls for the urgent need to rehabilitate the nation’s four refineries to get them working optimally.

NUPENG stated that the cabal in the downstream sector are at work sabotaging all efforts to make products available through revamping of the nation’s four refineries.

The Senator representing Rivers South-East senatorial district, Magnus Abe has accused the minister of transport, Rotimi Amaechi of dividing the All Progressives Congress(APC) in River state.

In a statement through his spokesman, Saroh Parry Benson, Abe disclosed that he will never leave the APC for any other party and revealed that the crisis rocking the rivers state chapter of the ruling party started on March 4th, 2017 during a meeting convened by Amaechi.

"I will not leave the APC even in the face of needless provocation and unwarranted bitterness. As I told the state Chairman of the party, last Sunday, every member of the party knows the cause and the reason for the present crisis in the APC in Rivers State and I will also state it here.

The Minister of Transportation made several shocking pronouncements that heralded the root of our present crisis. He publicly declared that Senator Magnus Abe and Dr. Dakuku Peterside were both running for governor and that he had ordered both of them to stop.

He said Dr. Peterside had stopped and Senator Abe had not, and that anyone supporting Senator Abe should leave the party immediately. He went on to name party leaders sympathetic to Abe and declared that they must leave the party."

  • Forte Oil unveils 1.5KVA solar solution
Ejiofor Alike
An indigenous midstream and downstream player in Nigeria’s oil and gas sector, Petrolex, has inaugurated Wood Mackenzie and Fooster Wheeler to conduct studies for the construction of 250,000 barrels per day refinery at the Petrolex Mega Energy City in Ibafon area of Ogun State.
Speaking to journalists ahead of next week’s inauguration of sub-Saharan Africa’s largest tank farm built in Ibafon by Petrolex, the Chairman of the company, Mr. Segun Adebutu said the proposed refinery would cost $3.5 billion, while the supporting structures would gulp $1.5 billion, including the $8.5 million lube plants.

He disclosed that the refinery would be the 74th largest among the 5,000 listed refineries in the world.
Adebutu said over the next 10-15 years, his company would invest between $5 billion and $6 billion in the downstream and midstream sectors.
He said with the completion of the mega tank farm in Ibafon, his company would contribute to about 70 per cent decongestion of Apapa area of Lagos by removing about 2,000 tankers, which should have gone to the depots in Apapa daily to load petroleum products.
Adebutu said his facilities were located in 13,000 hectares of land, while negotiations were ongoing for additional 12,000 hectares to make the energy city 101 square kilometres or 10 per cent of the size of Lagos.
He said $330 million had been spent to date as audited by PwC, adding that the tank farm has initial storage capacity of 300 million litres of petroleum products.
According to him, the company plans to add 250 million litres capacity yearly to attain a target of 1.2 billion litres of capacity.
Adebutu added that his company will build 50 filling stations yearly and also acquire 150 vessels, barges and tugboats to provide services in West African waters, stressing that 16 barges and two tugboats have already been acquired.
“’A new world of possibilities’ aptly captures the ever-evolving spirit of Petrolex, as we will not relent until we see Nigeria transformed into an energy self- reliant nation in the immediate future,” Adebutu said.
In a related development, Forte Oil Plc has also unveiled 1.5KVA solar power solution, christened “FO Solar,” designed to be an alternative source for the generation of reliable energy for household needs.
Speaking at the launch of the solar solution in Lagos, the Group Managing Director of Forte Oil plc, Mr. Akin Akinfemiwa, said the solution would provide enough sustainable and clean energy to power key appliances in homes at no maintenance cost.
“We believe it is solution that meets the need of medium income group, who rely on generators. We are aware of the power sector reform programme of the federal government and the Light Up Lagos launched by the state government. All these efforts are geared towards providing regular power supply,” he said.

It’s Time To Focus On Governance And Stop Blaming Jonathan — Transportation Minister
User Avatar Forum: Politics
Posted by: Edoman - 12-07-2017, 12:22 PM - No Replies

The Minister of Transport, Rotimi Amaechi, has admonished his colleagues in the Muhammadu Buhari administration to stop blaming former President Goodluck Jonathan. Mr. Amaechi said it is time for administration officials to concentrate on delivering good policies to the citizens rather than dragging the former president for Nigeria’s woes. “I agree with those who said we should stop criticising the last government and that we should do our own,” The Nation newspaper quoted Mr. Amaechi as saying during a meeting at his office Tuesday.

The minister decried Nigeria’s infrastructure deficit, drawing a comparison with other relatively new countries like Singapore.
“We need to leverage on what we know. People are shouting intermodal transport; I went to the new airport in Singapore and I didn’t find one person at the airport.
“As you walk in, technology takes over,” Mr. Amaechi said.
[Image: Rotimi_Amaechi_saharatv1.jpg?itok=Wotgf6bv]Rotimi Amaechi SaharaTV He called for an urgent renaissance in Nigeria’s infrastructure, especially in the area of information and communications technology.
“They also said in the next few years, they would introduce driverless cars. We should also think outside the box about how to improve our transport sector and think less about how sun and moon affect the sector or building more bus stops.
“We should see how much investment we can put in the area of ICT. Intelligence transportation should not be ignored,” he added.
If heeded, Mr. Amaechi’s call would mark a shift in Buhari administration’s approach to public engagement.
Since assuming office in 2015, President Buhari has led his appointees and party members to blame Mr. Jonathan for failing to properly direct the country’s affairs during his tenure.
Allegations such as senseless looting of public funds, nepotism, economic mismanagement and gross abuse of power are regularly directed at Mr. Jonathan.
In June, Mr. Amaechi slammed Mr. Jonathan for allegedly failing the Igbo during his years, saying the former president left the region in a state of disrepair.
“President Jonathan went to Onitsha and danced and promised to construct Onitsha bridge. Right? After that nothing happened,” Mr. Amaechi said at a social media forum in Lagos on June 13.
Bolaji Abdullahi, a spokesperson for the APC, told PREMIUM TIMES the call was appropriate.
“Enough of blaming the previous administration, Nigerians want us to focus,” the spokesperson said.
Mr. Abdullahi said the wrongdoings of Mr. Jonathan’s government would remain in the memories of Nigerians, but that the current administration was not voted to amplify them.
“Yes, there were problems created by the previous administration, but Nigerians didn’t vote for us because they want us to be telling them who’s responsible. They want us to be solving problems,” he said.

Atiku Forget about 2019 for selling out Jonathan – Niger Delta Youth

A Niger Delta Youth coalition has asked 2019 presidential aspirant, Atiku Abubakar to forget about his aspiration to become president, citing his failure to assist former President Goodluck Jonathan in 2019.
The coalition also cautioned Senator Ben Bruce for campaigning for Atiku, reminding him that Atiku was the reason that former President Goodluck Jonathan lost his reelection in 2015.
The coalition in a statement signed by its Chairman, Harry Lawson and Secretary, Preye Wilson, on Wednesday, welcomed the Turaki of Adamawa into the party but urged forget his presidential ambition.
The statement read: “We, the Niger Delta Coalition wish to welcome former Vice President Atiku Abubakar back to the umbrella, a party he formed with other eminent Nigerians in 1998.
“We wish to remind the former Vice President that he destroyed, battered and abandoned the PDP on the October 31st 2013 for a greener pasture in another political party when he was needed most.
“However, we welcome Atiku Abubakar back to the PDP, the party which he called his home. We are happy he has realised his wrong decisions and is back to make amends.
“Nevertheless, we wish to tell him that if PDP is truly his home as he has claimed, then we expect that he plays nothing less than a leadership role in the party. He should channel all his efforts towards the reconstruction, strengthening and building a strong political base for the party. He should truly be a leader and help the party develop winning strategies. He should help in reconciling and bringing back aggrieved members.
“We from the Niger Delta are still nursing the wounds over the role he played that frustrated the re-election of former President Goodluck Jonathan in 2015. We are also aware that Atiku is wielding so much financial lobby in the Niger Delta to gather support for his Presidential ambition” they said.
“We expect that the former Vice President should for now bury his Presidential ambition as a display of uncommon leadership and as part of his atonement. He should rather work towards assisting the party to produce an impeccable and credible candidate that will help PDP wrestle the Presidency from the ruling All Progressives Congress, come 2019.”
The coalition also cautioned Senator Bruce for his recent romance with the former vice President at the expense of the region.
“We call on all the leaders from the region especially Senator Ben-Murray Bruce not to fall for his inducements but courageously advice him to be an exemplary leader and allow those who have been dedicated their energy and time to the party to take the shot,” the statement said.

2019: Why We Won’t Support Buhari – South West Youths
User Avatar Forum: Politics
Posted by: Edoman - 12-07-2017, 11:52 AM - No Replies

The Youths alleged that Buhari has failed the Nigerian youths especially by not fulfilling his electoral promises for them.

The National President of the Yoruba Youths Congress (YYC) who doubles as the Chairman, Coalition of South West Youths Group, Prince Dapo Adepoju lamented that the President has pushed the Youths to the back seat.

Adepoju spoke to reporters in Akure, the Ondo State capital on Wednesday, while receiving youth leaders of tertiary institutions who came from Ghana on a courtesy visit to the group.

He said Buhari has failed to extend hands of fellowship and friendship to the Nigerian youths.

The group noted that the choice of the present Minister for youth was a wrong one as he’s far above the stipulated age to be addressed as youth.

“We contributed the largest votes, yet, we are the ones that are jobless and taken for granted, We will not accept this anymore, “He said.

Adepoju said lots of corrections can still be made to pacify the youths by providing employment for youths who are roaming around the streets.

He said youths stakeholders will consult and agree on a particular presidential candidate to support in the 2019 general election.

Adepoju said the united efforts of the Youths was the reason for the technical defeat of Nnamdi Kanu.

“We were united and we all agreed that we will not support his sentimental agitation. Had it been we gave him support, it would have been another story today.

“How many youths are in his cabinet, in fact the president has not deemed it fit to appreciate efforts of youths stakeholders in supporting him to kill the bad intentions of Nnamdi Kanu.

“Instead, people who were not part of the struggle were the ones being commended, In fact the vice President met with them who were mostly elders, This to us is not good enough.

Adepoju said the Nigerian youths have decided that only a presidential candidate irrespective of his/her political party that will give youths attention will get their support in 2019.

Same-day delivery: Kylie Jenner and Khloe Kardashian 'to have joint birth' in latest rumor
[Image: Khloe%2BKardashian%2Band%2BKylie%2BJenner.jpg]
Well, it has been rumour all along. The sisters haven't even come out to deny or confirm that they are pregnant. So, here is another one. While we wait for either sister to confirm or deny or stop wearing oversized sweats for two seconds to let us know whether the conspiracy of the year is
in fact correct or not, Heat magazine has got their own theory that blows the rest of the babies out of the bathwater.

According to the publication, not only is Khloe, 33, and Kylie, 20, pregnant and due to become mums in "less than three months" - they're planning a joint birth! Sources say Momager extraordinaire Kris Jenner is hoping for a same-day delivery as both sisters get ready for their due dates.
The source adds that acing such a momentous birthing would prove to be ratings gold for Keeping Up With The Kardashians - which, as we know, enjoyed a nice spike in viewers during the episode in which Kourtney gave birth to Mason. However, with the two sisters keeping to two very different style aesthetics in their everyday get up, the publication's source says the ladies are looking for their own brand of birthing suite chic on the big day.
They say Kylie "wants a C-section, because she can't stand the idea of all that pain," while Khloe is going more for an "Earth Mother" vibe, adding: "She wants a natural birth, without even an epidural, and she's requested meditative music to be played."
Let's mention once again that neither sister has confirmed nor denied a pregnancy. Still, it's said each sis will have a separate wing of celebrity birthing hot spot Cedars-Sinai Hospital to themselves, with the sisters looking to refurnish and repaint in their own theme - with Kylie including "a flat-screen TV and a snack bar for her friends."
They're not the first celebrities to take over maternity wards, with stars such as Beyonce, Madonna and Mariah Carey each putting their own natal stamp on proceedings for their respective births.

RHAPSODY OF REALITIES

THURSDAY, 7TH DECEMBER.

Pastor Chris

TOPIC ✨ Righteousness Speaks ✨

But the righteousness which is of faith speaketh on this wise, Say not in thine heart, Who shall ascend into heaven? (that is, to bring Christ down from aboveSmile Or, Who shall descend into the deep? (that is, to bring up Christ again from the dead.) But what saith it? The word is nigh thee, even in thy mouth, and in thy heart: that is, the word of faith, which we preach (Romans 10:6-8)._*

The phrase “the righteousness which is of faith” in the verse above is a rather interesting one. It’s rendered in the original Greek as “the ‘of faith’ righteousness,” thus, giving personality to the word, “righteousness”; and that righteousness, he says, “speaks.” “The ‘of faith’ righteousness” speaks. So, righteousness talks; it doesn’t keep quiet.

Often, we say, Christianity is for talkers; we speak righteousness, just as we speak wisdom. The righteousness of God is the truth of God; it’s the reality concerning any situation. So when we affirm the Word, we’re speaking righteousness, we’re speaking God’s language of faith. Romans 10:9 tells us how the “of faith righteousness” works. It says, *_“…if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.”_*

The word, “confess” is from the Greek “homologeo,” which means to speak the same thing in agreement. It means affirming the Word of God in agreement with God; not merely repeating it exactly in the same words, but making your own affirmations in agreement with His Word. If you’d confess or affirm the same things that God has said about you in His Word, they’d become real in your life.

For example, 2 Corinthians 3:5 says, *_“Not that we are sufficient of ourselves to think any thing as of ourselves; but our sufficiency is of God.”_* You ought to, on the basis of what God has said, declare, “I’m sufficient in Christ’s sufficiency; I’m up to any task. I produce excellence and works of righteousness, because Christ is my ability and sufficiency.” That’s speaking the righteousness of God, the rightness of God about who you are, and what you can do in Christ.

|| *PRAYER*

*Dear Father, I thank you for the privilege to affirm your Word concerning my life. I declare that I’m more than a conqueror, and can do all things through Christ who strengthens me! Your wisdom guides me today, and I’m led of the Spirit to produce excellence and works of righteousness, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.

FURTHER STUDY:

Hebrews 13:5-6 KJV
Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee. [6] So that we may boldly say, The Lord is my helper, and I will not fear what man shall do unto me.

1 Corinthians 2:12-13 KJB
Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God. [13] Which things also we speak, not in the words which man's wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth; comparing spiritual things with spiritual.

President Akufo-Addo of Ghana has commended the contributions of Zenith Bank to the deepening of financial intermediation and the development of Ghanaian financial services sector.
Describing the bank as a ‘truly pan-African bank’ with presence in several countries on the continent, President Akufo-Addo observed that the continent needs institutions like Zenith Bank to bring about a united West Africa and Africa, that will engender future prosperity of its people and the entire continent.
The president made this remark when he inagurated the new Head Office complex of Zenith Bank Ghana, at Ridge, Accra, Ghana.

He further remarked that the initiative and sense of risk-taking and entrepreneurship that Zenith Bank represents is what will drive Ghana and indeed the continent to prosperity, economic interdependence and sustainability. He added that for the economic renaissance we seek, “we need many more Jim Ovias” on the continent to leapfrog enterprise and entrepreneurship.
President Akufo-Addo also commended the bank for paying attention to another important aspect of Ghana’s development – education of young people – through its $2 million educational support. He described the initiative as tremendous and applauded Ovia for his characteristic kind gesture.
In his speech, the founder and group Chairman of Zenith Bank, Ovia, observed that the decision by the leadership of the bank to invest in Ghana is well thought-through considering the Ghana is an emerging economic superpower in the sub-region and a very viable and virile entity.
Zenith Bank (Ghana) Limited (“Zenith”), a financial services provider, was incorporated in April 2005 under the Banking Act 2004 (Act 673) as a private limited company and commenced universal banking operation in September 2005.
Since inception, the Zenith brand has been synonymous with its cutting edge ICT platform, passionately innovative staff and devotion to the development of top of the range products and services to meet customer needs. Zenith Bank is an epitome of a stable and strong institution with a brand and customer service that is the envy of its peers.
The bank’s main service delivery channels include 34 business locations (branches and agencies) as well as numerous e-products and e-services across Ghana.
Zenith Bank Ghana was a few days ago adjudged the country’s 2017 bank of the Year by the UK-based The Banker magazine.

• CBN to draft credit framework for SMEs, pumps $210m into FX market
Obinna Chima
Following the success of the $3 billion Eurobond issue by the federal government last month, coupled with higher oil prices and production, the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor, Mr. Godwin Emefiele, has disclosed that the country’s external reserves have hit a four-year high of $38.2 billion.

Emefiele made the disclosure Tuesday during the inauguration of a €10 million fully automated Blue Band margarine factory by Unilever Plc, in Agbara, Ogun State.
With the rate of accretion, the reserves are expected to meet the central bank’s projection of $40 billion by the end of 2017.
Emefiele said: “In January 2014, Nigeria’s reserves were about $40 billion and by October 2016, it had dropped to $23 billion, all because of the haemorrhaging of foreign exchange.
“But I am happy that today, we are beginning to sing positive songs and our story is looking good at this time. We have seen reserves move up from the $23 billion to $38.2 billion.”
The CBN governor commended the management of Unilever for heeding his call for manufacturers to look inwards to grow the economy.
The establishment of the factory, according to him, was a fallout of the central bank’s policy that restricted 41 items from accessing FX from the interbank market.
He stressed the need for the country to focus on job creation to cater for Nigeria’s rising population and create job opportunities for Nigerian youths.
He also emphasised on the need for private sector support, saying government alone cannot create jobs.
Emefiele went on to recall how Unilever was encouraged to establish the Blue Band margarine factory after it was faced with the ban on the 41 items that included margarine.
“I must thank Unilever for doing what they have done today. The restriction of FX for the 41 items came on board about two years ago. At that time, we were criticised.
“Before that time, Unilever had a factory producing Blue Band margarine. But margarine was also part of the 41 items. The managing director and the executive team of Unilever Nigeria visited me in Abuja and said they wanted us to grant them some form of forbearance.
“I said there was not going to be any forbearance and encouraged them to re-establish the factory in Nigeria, because at the time their factory had been dismantled in Nigeria and taken to another country.
“And he (Unilever managing director) made a promise that between 12 to 18 months the factory would be re-established in Nigeria,” he recalled.
According to him, based on the promise by Unilever’s management, the central bank granted the company some form of forbearance that made it easy for them to import margarine into Nigeria for a period.
He noted that the CBN kept monitoring the company to ensure that they did not renege on their promise, adding: “I must say that the managing director of Unilever is a man of his word and he kept to the promise that he was going to re-establish that factory.
“The entire essence is to say that by re-establishing that factory here in Nigeria, he is creating direct jobs for Nigerians in this factory and creating indirect jobs for Nigerians by virtue of the fact that he will buy palm oil which is the key ingredient that he uses in producing margarine.”
He expressed the readiness of the central bank to support any firm that wants to establish a company in Nigeria.
“I keep saying we do not have the foreign exchange to allocate to import products that can be produced in Nigeria. I am happy that Unilever has proved us right that Blue Band margarine can be produced in this country.
“So far, they are doing about 10,000 metric tonnes per annum and he has promised that he is going to ramp it up to 50,000 metric tonnes.
“By doing so, you create jobs, which is what we are talking about. By creating jobs, you save the country FX that is needed to create jobs,” he said.
Going down memory lane, Emefiele said when he drove past the Agbara industrial estate in Ogun State, he passed some of the companies he had visited as a young credit officer as a banker, but they were all closed down.
“At that time, Unilever was producing Blue Band margarine. The company that was producing glass has shut down, also the fluorescent companies have closed down.
“But the promise I am making to everybody, just as I made to Unilever, is that if there is any company that wants to set up shop in any part of this country, we will do all we can to assist it.
“If you want to re-establish your factory and you need our funding assistance, count on us to support you. Like I said, creating jobs is not just the responsibility of the central bank, we need support from the private sector and that is why we are making the promise that if there is an investor that is ready, he should count on us,” he said.
Earlier, the executive vice-president, Unilever Nigeria and Ghana, Mr. Yaw Nsarkoh, restated the commitment of the multinational to Nigeria. According to Nsarkoh, in spite of the fact that the company has been in Nigeria for over 90 years, the past few years had been the best.
According to him, the new plant consumes 50 per cent energy less than what the company’s previous plant, but produces a higher output.
“None of these would have been possible without the support of the central bank. In the face of the forex scarcity, the central bank continued to support Unilever and I want to thank you (Emefiele) for embarking on this journey with us,” he added.
The CBN Tuesday also announced that it was formulating a draft credit framework for Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) aimed at improving credit to the sector.
According to a statement posted on the central bank’s website, this was disclosed by Emefiele at a strategy meeting with select Development Finance Institutions (DFIs) and other stakeholders on enhancing access to credit to SMEs in the country.
According to him, the efforts would see more government intervention in the sector, resulting in job creation for youths in the country.
Emefiele noted that the meeting with the DFIs was as a result of the failure of lenders to make access to credit a priority.
He conveyed the government’s concern that the citizens were yet to feel the impact of the country’s exit from the recession, which he attributed to lack of appreciable growth.
Speaking further, he disclosed that President Muhammadu Buhari had mandated agencies to come up with programmes that would have Nigeria and Nigerians at heart.
The programme, according to him, would be one that would be impactful nationwide in terms of granting access to credit to the rising number of SMEs.
In spite of all efforts by the Bank to improve certain parameters of the economy, he said Nigerian lenders had failed small businesses.
Speakers at the strategy session were unequivocal in their attempt to find solutions to the failure of the commercial banks to extend credit to SMEs.
The representative of the only commercial bank at the meeting, First Bank of Nigeria, however, said everything boils down to the huge risks involved in giving credit to SMEs.
An Abuja-based manufacturer narrated how a commercial bank turned down his request for a loan of N160 million on the account of his N200-million factory that was located in Kubwa, on the outskirts of the Abuja metropolis.
Rounding off the discussion, Emefiele observed that the nation needed to strengthen the Bank of Industry (BoI) in order to make it compete favourably with commercial banks in the country.
A technical committee comprising the BoI, Development Bank of Nigeria (DBN), select DFIs, Bank of Agriculture (BOA) and the Nigeria Incentive-Based Risk Sharing System for Agricultural Lending (NIRSAL), to be chaired by the Director, Development Finance Department (DFD), Dr. Mudashiru Olaitan, was constituted and asked to submit its recommendations to the larger meeting in one week.
Emefiele said that the outcome of the committee’s work should form part of the theme of the annual Bankers’ Committee retreat in Lagos, scheduled to hold between 8 and 9 December 2017.
Those who attended the meeting included the Special Adviser to the President on Economic Matters in the Vice President’s Office, Dr. Adeyemi Dipeolu; Managing Director, DBN, Mr. Tony Okpanachi; and Managing Director, BoI, Mr. Olukayode Pitan.
Meanwhile, the CBN said Tuesday that it injected an additional $210 million into the foreign exchange market on Monday, in its bid to sustain liquidity.
Giving a breakdown, central bank spokesman, Mr. Isaac Okorafor, said the sum of $100 million was offered to the wholesale segment, while the SME segment got $55 million.
The Invisibles segment (i.e. tuition fees, medical payments and basic travel allowance, among others) was also allocated $55 million.
He said that the releases to successful bidders, which had been concluded were part of efforts aimed at further enhancing ease of doing business in Nigeria.
Hence, besides boosting liquidity in the FX market, facilitating trade and remittances for legitimate personal commitments were also expected to improve tremendously.
Speaking on the market conduct, Okorafor enjoined authorised dealers to abide by the extant rules of the market, as CBN would continue to monitor the market.
The naira maintained its value against the dollar, exchanging for N361/$1 on the BDC segment of the market Tuesday.
However, the official exchange rate of the naira appreciated to N306.85 to the dollar Tuesday, stronger than the N307 to the dollar from the previous day.

Petrol Queues Return, Baru Rushes Back from London
User Avatar Forum: Politics
Posted by: Edoman - 12-06-2017, 02:35 PM - No Replies

Long queues of vehicles waiting to buy petrol from service stations on Tuesday resurfaced in some parts of the country, forcing the Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Dr. Maikanti Baru, to cut short his official trip to London.

As at 1p.m. yesterday when THISDAY concluded its round of visits to service stations in Maitama, Wuse, Jabi, along Kubwa Expressway and Nyanya axis, vehicular queues had built up, but the stations were dispensing at the official pump price of N143 to N145 per litre.

At the NNPC station close to the popular Wuse Market end of the district, queues for petrol were building up to the Aminu Kano Way, while the corporation’s mega station along the Kubwa Expressway also had queues for petrol.

In Jabi, THISDAY observed queues at a NIPCO filling station which was equally dispensing to consumers. Attendants at the station said they had fuel and were surprised at the sudden build up of queues at their station.

Similarly, motorists who bought petrol from the Ascon station along the IBB Way in Wuse, said they spent an average of 30 minutes to get in and out of the station with petrol in their tanks. In Gwanripa, the situation was quite different as the length of the queues appeared to have been more than what was observed in some parts of the city.

However, the NNPC in a statement from its Group General Manager, Public Affairs, Mr. Ndu Ughamadu, reiterated that there was no need for the sudden return of queues at petrol stations across the country, stating that it had enough stocks.
The NNPC also informed that following the return of these queues, Baru had to cut short his trip to London, where he had gone to receive a Forbes award to him as its ‘Oil and Gas Man of the Year’ for 2017.

It said in the statement that Baru would be back in the country to resolve the fuel supply and distribution challenges, adding that it was as a result of panic buying by motorists.
The statement also quoted Baru to have called on Nigerians to stop panic buying and that the NNPC was doing everything within its reach to address the situation.
“For the umpteenth time, I wish to call on all Nigerians to stop panic buying. We have said times without number that NNPC has sufficient products to cater for the needs of all consumers,” Baru stated in the statement.

The statement further explained that before leaving for London, Baru, had directed that more truckload of petroleum products be dispatched to various parts of the country to cushion the effects of excessive demand which he noted was caused by panic buying.

The NNPC had on Monday stated that there was no plan to increase the prices of petroleum products both at the ex-depot level and pump price ahead of the forthcoming Christmas celebration.
It said the ex-depot petrol price of N133.38 per litre and the pump price of N143 to N145 per litre had not changed.

Meanwhile, the Senate Committee on Petroleum Downstream has summoned Baru over increasing fuel queues surfacing in different parts of the country.
Baru is expected to appear before the committee on Thursday.
The Chairman of the committee, Senator Kabiru Marafa, told journalists yesterday afternoon that the members would also embark on inspection at service stations across the country.
This, he said, is to avoid the situation where some unpatriotic persons would cause unnecessary hardships for Nigerians in the festive season.

“We will take time out to embark on a serious oversight. We will break  into sub-committees to be able to cover the entire country for the inspection,” he said.
The sub-committees would be armed with details of daily distribution to ascertain the quantity of fuel given to each service station, he added.

“We will also get these details from the filling stations to ascertain when last they got supplies and the quantity sold. We will not stop at that. We will also inspect  tanks in filling stations to ensure that Nigerians are not taken advantage of,’’ Marafa added.
He disclosed that the seriousness of the situation informed the need to summon Maikanti himself.
Marafa however noted that the NNPC already issued statements informing that there is no need for panic buying.

“There is an Executive Director in charge of Downstream who oversees the downstream generally. There is also the Managing Director  of Petroleum and Product Marketing Company.
“The NNPC has also been directed to look at their supply chain and inform the relevant agencies of their supplies to various stations while they work with that plan to see that anybody found hoarding the product will be sanctioned,” Marafa added.

Reno Omokri, Aide to former President Goodluck Jonathan, has stated that President Muhammadu has failed woefully in the three platforms he is running, namely, anti-corruption, economy and security.

According to him, Buhari has performed worse in these areas than Jonathan.

He further stated that if his former principal was called clueless, that Buhari is even more clueless.

According to Omokri, President Buhari still refers to Germany as West Germany till date.

He wrote on his twitter handle, @renoomokri, “Buhari ran on three platforms. A. Anti-corruption, B. Security and C. Economy.

“In each of these areas, he has performed worse than Jonathan.

“If APC said Jonathan was “clueless”, what shall we say about Buhari? What shall we call a man who still refers to Germany as West Germany?”

Fayose Attacks Buhari For Refusing To Punish ‘Killer Herdsmen’

Governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti State has accused President Muhammadu Buhari of refusing to take actions against killer herdsmen.

Fayose said this on Tuesday in a condolence message to those killed in fresh attacks in Adamawa state by alleged Fulani herdsmen.

“Today, my heart goes to the families of those people killed in Adamawa by herdsmen. It appears that herdsmen have replaced Boko Haram in that State and one wonders why the president is always reluctant to take actions against the herdsmen,” he said via his Twitter handle.

DAILY POST reports that suspected Fulani herdsmen had on Monday attacked two communities of Lawaru and Dong in Demsa Local Government Area, Adamawa State.

The attack came after a widely rumoured report of suspected Fulani herdsmen lurking in the area, Sunday night.

Fayose, who was in Adamawa, to commiserate with the state government, said Buhari had deliberately turned deaf ears to the excesses of his Fulani kinsmen.

Reno Omokri, former aide to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan, on Tuesday described the Imo State Governor, Rochas Okorocha as an embarrassment.

Omokri made the remark while berating Okorocha for appointing his sister as Commissioner for Happiness and Couples’ Fulfillment.

The former Special Adviser on New Media to Jonathan wondered what “sin Imo people commited” to deserve such a governor.

[Image: IMG_20171205_232756_508.jpg?resize=696%2C450]

In a post on his Facebook page, he said Okorocha has spent more money on status than living things.

According to Omokri, “Rochas Okorocha, a man who has spent more money on statues than he has on living human beings has now appointed his biological sister as “Commissioner for Happiness and Couples’ Fulfillment”.

“What sin did Imo people commit to deserve this embarrassment as their Governor?”

Okorocha had yesterday, sworn-in 28 new commissioners and 27 Transition Committee Chairmen for the 27 local government councils in the state.

One of the new commissioners sworn in is the Governor’s biological sister, Mrs. Ogechi Ololo (nee Okorocha).

*RIGHTEOUSNESS CONSCIOUSNESS .*

Wednesday, December 6th .
Pastor Chris

_*For he hath made him (Jesus) to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him (2 Corinthians 5:21).*_

God made Jesus to be sin, not a mere “sin offering” or “sin sacrifice,” but sin itself, so that we might become, not just righteous, but the righteousness of God—the very essence or representation of divine righteousness. What a blessed reality!

Now, when we read that God made Jesus who knew no sin, to be sin for us, the expression, “Who knew no sin” in the original Greek rendering is a very powerful, though complex construction. It’s actually talking about Jesus being conscious of a “no sin”; that’s one of the best ways to express it in English, howbeit that would be an incomprehensible expression.

The best way to communicate what the Scripture says here is that Jesus was “sinlessness-conscious.” Which means, it wasn’t just about God declaring Him to be sinless, but that Jesus, of Himself, had a consciousness of sinlessness; He was conscious of His own sinlessness. So, when we talk about righteousness consciousness, we’re speaking in real spiritual language. The One who knew no sin; who had a consciousness of His own sinlessness, was made sin, that we might be made God’s righteousness. What a Gospel!

Jesus came to make you a bona fide, legal and vital child of God. He came to make you the righteousness of God in human flesh. Become conscious of your righteousness in Him, just as He was conscious of His sinlessness.

Your righteousness is perfect righteousness, being the righteousness of Jesus Christ, given to you as a gift, following the sacrifice of Jesus Christ on your behalf. Colossians 1:22 tells us the result of His vicarious death: it was to present you guiltless, holy, unblameable and unreproveable in the sight of God. This is who you are today: holy, justified, glorified, and acceptable before God. Maintain this consciousness.

*PRAYER*

*Dear Father, I thank you for your nature of righteousness in my spirit that produces your rightness in all I do. Sin has no dominion over my life; I’m conscious of my sinlessness, just as Jesus was. My life is a manifestation of God’s righteousness. Thank you Lord, for I’m unblameable and irreprovable in your sight, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.*

*FURTHER STUDY:* *||* *Romans 5:1* Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ: *||*

*||* *Colossians 1:21-22* And you, that were sometime alienated and enemies in [your] mind by wicked works, yet now hath he reconciled 22 In the body of his flesh through death, to present you holy and unblameable and unreproveable in his sight: *||*

Atiku: 8 Commissioners Dump APC In Adamawa
User Avatar Forum: Politics
Posted by: Edoman - 12-05-2017, 04:19 PM - No Replies

Eight commissioners in the Senator Mohammed Umaru Jibrilla Bindow-led All Progressives Congress controlled state government have dumped the party, in support of former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar.
The serving commissioners , who belong to Atiku’s camp, include Dr. Fatima Atiku Abubakar, commissioner of health, Commissioner of Works and Housing, Lilian Stephen, Commissioner of Land and Survey, Yayaji Mijinyawa and Commissioner of Youths and Sports, Mr Augustine Ayuba.
Others are Alhaji Daware, Commerce and Trade and Ahmadu Waziri, Agriculture.
The decision of the commissioners to move out of the APC, with their principal, Atiku Abubakar, has totally crippled activities of the state government, in the last three weeks.
With that movement out of the APC, it means over half of the cabinet might have effectively pulled out of the state government.
What is not yet known is whether Bindow and his deputy, Martins Babale, would also eventually move out of the party.
Atiku, who is also called Waziri Adamama, reportedly funded the governor’s 2015 governorship election.
This pitted most APCstakeholders against the governor as they accused him of being loyal to Atiku.
State Chairman of the APC, Alhaji Ibrahim Bilal, had, while endorsing President Muhammadu Buhari for the 2019 presidential race asked party members not comfortable with the decision to align themselves with the majority or opt out as the APC is interested in keeping a united front.
The call to shape-up or ship-out by Bilal has reportedly not gone down well with most state government officials, who allegedly belonged to Atiku’s platform.
Commissioner of Land and Survey, Alhaji Yayaji Mijinyawa, confirmed the movement out of the party, yesterday.
Mijinyawa said his loyalty and others, as well, is to the former vice president.
“Waziri Atiku is our leader. Our associations with him dates back a long while. It would be childish for anybody to think we would go against him.
“Even if some of us are deserting the Waziri now, due to the pressure of office, definitely, you don’t expect his own daughter, Dr. Fatima, to desert him and remember, Waziri funded the campaign of this party in 2015, his funds brought this government to power.”
Adamawa state chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Abba T. Shehu, confirmed arrangements to receive the defectors.
Shehu said Atiku’s pulling out of the APC will ground the party in the North East.

NNPC Diverting Fuel Through DAPMA To Cause Scarcity –IPMAN

…As investigation shows ex-depot price of N133.38 per litre
By Adewale Sanyaolu
The Lagos State chapter of the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN), led by its Chairman, Alhaji Alanamu Balogun, last week, threatened to withdraw its services across Lagos State and parts of Ogun State, effective December 11, due to irregular fuel supply at NNPC’s Ejigbo satellite depot.
It said over 900 filling stations will be shut down, which might lead to fuel crisis during the Christmas and New Year festivities.
IPMAN said it took the decision because its members had been running their fuel stations at a loss over the past eight months due to NNPC’s default in the bulk purchase agreement it signed with IPMAN to sell fuel to its members at N133.28k per litre.
According to IPMAN, a litre of fuel (PMS) is being sold to its members by DAPMAN at N141, apart from running costs, bank charges and other expenses which made it impossible for operators to sell a litre of fuel at controlled price of N145, rather they sell N146 per litre.
The association alleged that while the NNPC had refused to sell fuel to its members regularly, it is diverting the supplies to DAPMAN at a price of N117 per litre and DAPMAN in turn, is selling to IPMAN members at N141 per litre.
“We believe that NNPC is doing this to deliberately cause fuel crisis because it could not control DAPMAN not to inflate prices beyond government’s fixed prices,” it said.
Meanwhile, Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC)’s claim that ex-depot price of petrol remains at N133.38 per litre, may have been faulted by Daily Sun findings across some depots in Apapa, Lagos.
The NNPC, in a statement released yesterday, maintained that the ex-depot petrol price of N133.38 per litre and the pump price of N143/N145 per litre have not changed as the corporation has enough stock of fuel to ensure seamless supply and distribution of products across the country during the Yultide.
‘‘The NNPC has once again emphasised that there are no plans to increase the prices of petroleum products both at the ex-depot level and pump price ahead of the forthcoming Yuletide,” the statement said.
But a document exclusively obtained by Daily Sun on the market survey position for petroleum products yesterday across some depots in Apapa, showed that eight dealers sold petrol above the ex-depot price of N133.38 approved by NNPC.
A breakdown of the ex-depot price of petrol showed that Fatgbems, Obat, Sahara, Techno and Wosab sold at N143 per litre yesterday, while NIPCO and Stallonire sold for N140 per litre and the D Jones N142 per litre.
IPMAN implored President Muhammadu Buhari, the National Assembly, the DPR, the Minister of Petroleum, Lagos State Governor, Mr. Ambode Akinwunmi, the Inspector General of Police and other security agencies to call the NNPC and DAPMAN to order, or the IPMAN will withdraw services and shut down all stations in Lagos State.
NNPC enjoined motorists and other users of petroleum products to disregard trending rumours of an impending fuel price hike, saying it has the full commitment of all downstream stakeholders, including petroleum marketers and industry unions, to cooperate in achieving zero fuel scarcity this season and beyond.
The corporation advised motorists not to engage in panic buying or indulge in the dangerous practice of stocking petroleum products in jerry cans at home.
NNPC assured that its downstream subsidiary companies, namely, the Petroleum Products Marketing Company (PPMC) and NNPC Retail Limited are fully geared up to ensure that motorists enjoy uninterrupted access to petrol throughout the nation.
