Khloe Kardashian: Mother's Day is Gonna Be Awkward AF
User Avatar Forum: TV
Posted by: Gimbiya - 05-03-2018, 03:21 PM - No Replies

Mother's Day is just around the corner, and you can guess which new mom is ready to experience the holiday in a whole new light.
Khloe Kardashian is talking to her fans about how excited she is for the upcoming holiday. Now that Khloe has welcomed her baby girl, this will be her first Mother's Day as a mom.
But ... things are going to be a little complicated, folks.
In a post on
Khloe's app, the new mom gushes about the upcoming holiday -- which will be on Sunday, May 13.
"This Mother's Day will be the most special yet!"
For her and for Kylie, since they both became moms this year.
"I still can't believe I'm a mom."
Quite frankly, she had an entire lifetime and then nine months to get used to the idea of motherhood. She hasn't yet had one month to process Tristan being a serial cheater.

But she's focusing on the positive.
"It feels like such an honor."
But Khloe obviously knows that she's not the only mother in her family. All of her sisters except for Kendall are also moms.
And so, of course, is her dear momager.
Khloe says that her new maternal status makes her extra appreciative of the other Kardashian moms.
"Now it feels even more important to honor all the amazing women in my family!"
If you guessed that this Mother's Day talk was a segue into suggesting that fans might want to purchase some of Khloe's clothing line ... congratulations.

Not everything on Khloe's list of suggested Mother's Day items is from her Good American brand. But the hoodie sure is.
She also recommends a kimono, a digital photo frame, and rose soap petals. (That last one, I'm going to be honest, fills me with indescribable dread)
The price range goes from about $10 to nearly $600. So it depends upon how much you love your mom. (Kidding!)
Honestly? The whole post feels like it was written in March. It's not just that she doesn't mention Tristan Thompson's cheating, but the tone doesn't even suggest that anything is out of the ordinary.
Obviously, in real life, this has to be a very emotionally complicated time for Khloe.
On the one hand, she's a new mother with a newborn daughter who isn't even a month old.
On the other, Khloe has been humiliated all across the world. Her baby daddy has reportedly been cheating on her with five other women.

(And those are just the ones of which the public is aware; some speculate that Thompson may have had a woman in every port, so to speak)
Gearing up for Mother's Day when you're uncertainty about your future with your baby daddy cannot be easy.
[Image: khloe-kardashian-and-tristan-thompson-on-snapchat.jpg]
You know what's even more complicated than Mother's Day?
Father's Day is coming up in June. How do you celebrate that under these circumstances. Do you celebrate it?
Fans have been waiting for when Khloe takes her baby and leaves Tristan and Cleveland in the dust for L.A. ... and it is rumored that Khloe plans to do just that before Mother's Day rolls around.
But that gives her, like, a week and a half to leave. Even if the doctor leaves her behind, is she emotionally prepared to make that journey?
Because many will see her leaving Cleveland for Calabasas as her saying goodbye, forever, to the life that she had imagined that she would lead with Tristan.
Kim may have cut ties with Tristan, but for Khloe, this is a lot harder. She's grieving a lot, and it's probably hard to let go.
We absolutely wish Khloe a happy Mother's Day. We only wish that it were under better circumstances.
There's no good time to find out that your baby daddy's penis has been taking a semester off to explore new experiences, but the literal day before you go into labor, two days before you give birth, has to be among the worst.
As she and her mother and all of her sisters except for Kendall prepare for Mother's Day ...
(Don't feel bad for Kendall; she has her horses)
... They have to all be wishing that things were a little different. Khloe is certainly not the only one of them who has been disappointed by her baby daddy.

Kim Kardashian: Forget What Kanye Said! Look How Cute My Baby Is!
User Avatar Forum: TV
Posted by: Gimbiya - 05-03-2018, 03:17 PM - No Replies

As you've no doubt heard by now, Kanye West has been making headlines recently as a result of his social media activity.
Normally, that's not a bad thing, especially for an artist with new music coming out.

But Kanye has always taken a ... let's say unique approach to public relations, and this time, he may have bitten off more than he can chew.

And by that, we mean, the formerly-beloved rapper basically seems hell-bent on torpedoing his own career.

You know things are bad when stealing the microphone from Taylor Swift as she attempts to accept an award looks like a good guy moment by comparison.

Anyway, it's impossible to keep up with all of Kanye's bonkers tweets and controversial comments these days, and it seems unlikely that his career will ever recover from the media frenzy of the past week.

On Tuesday, Kanye hit a new low when he remarked that the centuries of slavery in the United States were the result "a choice" made by blacks of those eras.

Yes, it was really that bad ... fortunately, for the sake of his reputation, Kanye married into a family that understands the importance of PR better than the Kennedys and the Clintons combined, hence the well-timed photo above.

Now clearly, Kim doesn't believe a few well-timed baby pics will make the world forget that Kanye said some profoundly ignorant sh-t just last night.

But she probably figures - rightly, as it happens - that come cute snaps of little Chicago can't hurt the situation.

Kim even posted some video clips of little Chi, cooing to her youngest daughter, “Are you not the cutest?”

Naturally, fans loved the latest glimpse at Kim and Kanye's third child, and thankfully, there was relatively little smack talk.

Kim should probably enjoy the moment, because amicable interactions with the public might be few and far between in the weeks to come.

In addition to Kanye's slavery comments, yesterday saw a revelation about a controversial period in his past.

Back in 2016, Kanye suffered a meltdown that was blamed his reps blamed on exhaustion and stress.

Last week, he revealed the true cause of his hospitalization:

It seems Kanye was addicted to opioids and struggled mightily to kick the habit:

[Image: kanye-west-tweets-about-emma-gonzalez.jpg]

“I think I’m in a stronger place than I ever was after the breakdown, or I like to say the breakthrough,” West told Charlamagne tha God in a candid interview yesterday.

The comment was controversial, as many believe Kanye is currently in the midst of a second breakdown.

Often with West, it can be difficult to tell the difference between media-baiting and genuine emotion.

Whatever the case, here's hoping Kanye gets help if he needs.

He's got a beautiful baby girl to look after.

Johnny Depp Sued By Bodyguards: He Made Us Wipe the Coke Off His Face!

Johnny Depp Sued By Bodyguards: He Made Us Wipe the Coke Off His Face!
In case you haven't been keeping up with the sad downward spiral of Johnny Depp in recent months, allow us to quickly fill you in:
Basically, over the course of the past year, the once-beloved actor has gone from brooding weirdo with mystique, a la Edward Scissorhands, to perennially-inebriated shyster who you wouldn't trust to look after your houseplants, a la some unsettling combo of Captain Jack Sparrow and Depp's Hunter S. Thompson caricature from Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas.

We won't even get into Depp's truly ugly divorce from Amber Heard, with its myriad allegations of physical and psychological abuse.

Instead, we'll focus on the other legal entanglements that should keep Johnny occupied for his remaining years.
It all started when Depp sued his management team for allegedly allowing him to spend himself to the brink of bankruptcy.
(At a certain level of wealth, you're literally not accountable for anything you do.)
The management group countersued, claiming that Depp is a habitual liar who spends $30,000 a month on wine (seriously).
As we've seen time and again in 2018, once a rich and powerful person gets called out in a legal setting, people begin to realize that he's not actually invincible.
And - taking a cue from his management team - Depp's security guards are getting in on the act and suing the actor for the astonishing sum of $25 million.
Does their case have any merit?
That remains to be seen - but in the meantime, the disgruntled guards are doing a number on Depp's already battered reputation with some shocking tales of misbehavior.
The bodyguards claim they were initially paid by a private security firm, but when Depp fell on hard times, they agreed to a deal where he would pay them directly - and they were immediately punished for their loyalty.
"Depp began making sudden and drastic changes to his staff and management team, causing a significant financial crunch for everyone surrounding Depp, except for Depp himself,” read court documents obtained by Page Six.
“Plaintiffs were loyal to Depp and his family and understanding of the financial hurricane Depp was in.”
The papers go on to allege:
“Plaintiffs found themselves in situations that required more than what a bodyguard would be expected to do."
And what were they asked to do?
Oh just act as Depp's personal chauffeurs/babysitters/drug mules/personal assistants, that's all.
Lawyers claim the guards "were asked repeatedly to drive vehicles that contained illegal substances” and “open containers” and “were asked to monitor unstable individuals in [Depp’s] life and entourage."
Their duties were eventually expanded to include serving as the "primary caretakers" of Depp's children, and occasionally removing the cocaine from his immaculately-manicured mustache.
“Often times Plaintiffs were forced to protect [Depp] from himself and his vices while in public, becoming caretakers for him," the suit claims.
A[n] incident at a local nightclub involved Plaintiffs alerting Depp of illegal substances visible on his face and person while preventing onlookers from noticing Depp’s condition.”
The guards go on to claim that Depp created a "toxic and unsafe work environment" that eventually forced them to quit.

As evidence, they cite an incident in which the actor's head of security shot himself in the leg “while playing with his weapon in a small control room on Johnny Depp’s property.”
Hey, if "playing" with guns while coked out of your guard makes us toxic and unsafe, we don't want to be whatever the opposite of toxic and unsafe is!
Anyway, you can stop researching that Fear and Loathing role whenever you want now, Johnny.

Kylie Jenner Posts a PERFECT Beach Photo With Baby Stormi!

Kylie Jenner Posts a PERFECT Beach Photo With Baby Stormi!
Travis Scott's birthday was Monday. The rapper and new father turned 26. His daughter, Stormi Webster, turned three months old on Tuesday.
To celebrate, Kylie and Travis and their precious baby are celebrating in Turks and Caicos.
On Wednesday, Kylie uploaded some stunning new photos -- of Stormi and of herself. Take a look!
It was, she revealed, something that she and Travis came up with together.
(They can't even figure out who came up with it first, if you can believe that)
Well, they're also vacationing together, in Turks and Caicos, to celebrate Travis' birthday. And Stormi's.
On Wednesday, Kylie shared this stunning mother-daughter photo.
This is, quite simply, a fantastic picture.
Kylie looks great in this no-makeup look. Her post-baby body is out of this world.
(And look at those freckles!!)
She's wearing a white two-piece bikini along with some matching white fishnets to make the ensemble much more interesting.
Sweet baby Stormi, sporting a white ruffled eyelet outfit, is looking every bit as fashion-forward as you'd imagine that Kylie's infant daughter would.
This is a lot of beauty and a lot of cuteness in just one photo.
In the wee hours of Wednesday morning, Kylie shared this photo of Stormi, taken on the day that she turned three months old.
Stormi looks sleepy, a little chubby, and peaceful.
That's exactly how babies should be.
She is so cute that you have to look away from the photo if you want to concentrate without some long-dormant nurturing instincts kicking into high gear.
This darling baby wasn't the only one showing off her looks for the camera, however.
Her mom is getting back into the habit of posing for the camera.
[Image: kylie-jenner-on-the-beach-post-baby.png]
Kylie also shared this photo of herself.
Like we said, her post-baby body is intensely gorgeous.
It looks like she ditched the mesh cover-up that she was wearing.
Probably wise.
It's one thing to look stylish, but we've seen people tan and burn in odd patterns because of what they were wearing.
Hopefully, Kylie and Travis were careful that neither they nor Stormi got burned.
(And yes, everyone needs to wear sunscreen if they're spending this much time in the sun, no matter their skin tone)
[Image: kylie-jenner-and-travis-scott-in-paradise.png]
Wow, that really looks like an amazing place to be if you like warm weather, sunlight, and the beach!
Kylie and Travis lead the kinds of enviable lives where they can take a "staycation" whenever they like, but with one of them being from SoCal and the other from Texas, they need something extra special and extra warm for it to feel like a real vacation.
Turks and Caicos it is, we guess.
Good for them and good for baby Stormi.
We hope that Kylie decides to share many, many more photos in the coming days. You can never have too many photos ... especially when your baby is as adorable as little Stormi Webster.
Also, happy birthday to Travis! (And, as we've already said, a very happy birthday to Stormi)

Meghan Markle's Brother Warns Prince Harry: Call Off the Wedding While You Still Can!

Meghan Markle's Brother Warns Prince Harry: Call Off the Wedding While You Still Can!

We're just over two weeks away from the wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, and for the most part, everything is falling into place.
The royal invitations have been sent out; the menu is set, and Meghan's gown - which is sure to be extravagant - is reportedly in its final stages of preparation.
Of course, anyone who's ever planned a wedding knows there's no way to prepare for every eventuality.
All anyone can do is take precautions wherever possible, so as to minimize the likelihood of a disaster.
And the happy couple did exactly that by
snubbing Meghan's brother and sister.
Actually, Thomas Markle Jr. and Samantha Markle are Meghan's half-brother and sister, but as they've repeatedly shown us in recent weeks, they're full-blown opportunists.
Samantha penned a tell-all about Meghan, even though she reportedly hasn't spent any time with the princess-to-be in over a decade.
As for Thomas, he accused Meghan of tearing her family apart in a hilariously over-the-top interview.
And the melodrama doesn't end there.
Today, In Touch Weekly published an open letter from Thomas, in which he implores Harry to call off the wedding before it's too late!
“As more time passes to your royal wedding, it became very clear that this is the biggest mistake in royal wedding history,” the 51-year-old writes.
“Meghan Markle is obviously not the right woman for you.”
He goes on to accuse Meghan of basically conning the Royals:
“I’m confused why you don’t see the real Meghan that the whole world now sees,” Thomas argues.
“Meghan’s attempt to act the part of a princess like a below C average Hollywood actress is getting old."
Thomas then repeats one of the most damaging - and demonstrably false - claim about Meghan, insisting that she used her father for his money and left him destitute:
"What kind of person starts out by using her own father until he’s bankrupt, then forgets about him in Mexico leaving him broke, over mostly all her debts. And when it’s time to pay him back she forgets her own father like she never knew him," Thomas says.

“It’s very apparent that her tiny bit of Hollywood fame has gone to her head,” he continues.
“Not to mention, to top it all off, she doesn’t invite her own family and instead invites complete strangers to the wedding. Who does that? You and the royal family should put an end to this fake fairytale wedding before it’s too late.”
Like, she's becoming a princess, so it's almost literally a fairytale wedding - but is Thomas aware that that's generally considered a favorable description of a nuptial ceremony?
When people object to a wedding, it's usually because they're pregnant with the groom's baby or something, not because the whole thing is too reminiscent of a Disney movie.
But hey, maybe Harry will heed Thomas' warning and call off his wedding 17 days before the ceremony.
Just kidding, he's more likely to have Thomas beheaded as part of the after-dinner entertainment.

Sandra Bullock Stalker Found Dead Inside Home

Sandra Bullock Stalker Found Dead Inside Home
A California man who was previously convicted of stalking Oscar winner Sandra Bullock was found dead inside his La Crescenta  home on Wednesday afternoon.

Scroll down for further details on this scary and unfortunate situation...

According to a local ABC affiliate, the Los Angeles Police Department served a warrant at the home of Joshua Corbett yesterday morning.

The 42-year old then reportedly barricaded himself in his residence, resulting in SWAT officers arriving at the scene in response to the incident.

Corbett said he had a weapon and threatened to kill the police officers.

At this point, crisis negotiators were brought in and spent five hours trying to convince Corbett to leave his house before they entered the house and found the suspect dead.

He was found lying on the floor from a self-inflicted gunshot.

(As a related point: the police did not confirm the nature of the warrant, but ABC reports that Corbett had failed to show up for a hearing related to his probation on April 23.)

Why are we writing about this sad, but seemingly random death on a celebrity gossip website?

This is why:

In 2014, Corbett was went on trial and was sentenced for stalking Bullock after he broke into her home.

Officials said at the time that he had two dozen illegal firearms and ammunition in his residence.

This wasn't just an instance of a crazed fans harmlessly making his way on to a celebrity's property, either. It was seriously frightening stuff.

In the 2014 hearing, Bullock could be heard in a terrifying 911 call telling the dispatcher the following:

“I’m in my closet. I have a safe door. I’m locked in the closet right now.”

Corbett was holding a black notebook with a two-page letter to Bullock and magazine photos of the actress when he was arrested.

He was later issued a 10-year protective order that required him to stay away at least 200 yards away from Bullock.

He was also sentenced to five years probation and treatment at a mental health facility.

In June of 2017, he was released from this mental health facility after receiving approval to do so from a doctor.

At that time, he was placed in an outpatient program and will continue to be monitored.

Here is a photo of Joshua Corbett in court:

So this marks the end of a tragic situation all around.

Bullock is yet to make any sort of public statement about what transpired yesterday.

We can't really see why she would do so.

Prostitute Calls Police On Abuja Driver: "He Looks Like Man That Robbed Me
User Avatar Forum: Other Stories
Posted by: Edoman - 05-03-2018, 12:57 PM - No Replies

A strategic team member of the #BringBackOurGirls movement, Bukky Shonibare, has raised alarm after her driver was arrested and has been detained by Abuja police for 5 days now over a prostitute's claim that he looks like a man that robbed her.

According to Bukky, her driver Darlington has been locked up since Saturday night.

A prostitute had, out of the blues, accused Darlington of looking like a man that robbed her of her phone and bag two months ago. An Abuja Deputy Chief Officer (DCO) got involved and locked up Darlington even though he had no evidence to prove he was the man that robbed the prostitute.

The DCO has refused to release Darlington on bail but has asked Bukky to find something and sort out the prostitute.

Read the sad story below:

From exam hall to police station!

A sex worker called police on my driver saying he looks like the man that robbed her at about 3am on 4th March. He's been locked up since Saturday night. The lady has refused to come to the station and stopped picking her calls. She claimed...

..the person used a knife to cut her while robbing her of her phone and bag. That she bit the person and also cut the person with the knife causing injury on him; and that was how she escaped. My driver's body has been checked, no scar of such. He's been weeping like a child.

My driver explained how tens of 'ashawos' gathered on him; and how once the screaming started, no one could hear his side until the police came.

I'm fagged out, sleepy, and hungry; but sitting here for some hours is nothing but more lessons about life, and us!

Still waiting...

Suffice to mention that the prostitute never reported to the police when she claimed she was robbed on 4th March. She also said the man that robbed her was taking her to his house in Lugbe on a night service agreement for N10,000.

My driver doesn't live in Lugbe!

And, I'm just thinking... so there are men that patronize prostitutes? N10k a night?

I just left the station (10.05pm) since afternoon, but not with my driver. He's now been in the cell for 4 nights!

Police went to search his house today and nothing was found. They went with the prostitute, who came with another prostitute colleague of hers.

Drama ensued...

The prostitute claimed the house may not be his. The IPO went to neighbours who confirmed he's been living there with his younger brother for some time. IPO has been professional, I must say.

Now the prostitute claims the bouncer who negotiated the 'night deal' can identify him.

Surprisingly, police said because it's an armed robbery case, they would still need to investigate before releasing him. Hence, they'd visit the club tomorrow.

Note, however, that because the prostitutes work collaboratively with the bouncers, they work together to say it's him.

Then I raised the issue of his continuous detention. The DCO just snapped back, raising his voice, that fundamental rights doesn't work there o. The same DCO was literally helping the prostitute complete her sentence; but would carry a look of disbelief anytime my driver speaks.

He said Uber drivers are like that and that he watched a documentary on CNN today on sexual assault committed by Uber drivers in the US. To him, that means my driver may be guilty.

He later came to me and asked that we should find a way to manage and settle with the prostitute.

All efforts to secure bail was blocked by the DCO.

When we left the DPO's office, the prostitutes were waiting at the reception. I offered to go drop them. Then DCO came and said he'd drop them.

Well, the DCO drove out of the station with the two prostitutes in his car tonight!

I have escalated the issue to a top-ranking police officer today, who has asked that I let him know when I'm going there tomorrow.

I'm back home from the station. I waited a long time.

Darlington was not released today. Day 5 in the cell.

The DPO is now leading the issue. He wasn't pleased the prostitutes didn't come today, and the DCO did not go to the club to interrogate the bouncers as agreed yesterday.

The DPO called the DCO who claimed he was unable to perform the agreed investigations today because he had to attend a meeting. (I wonder why the tasks were not delegated).

DPO then instructed the DCO to ask the prostitutes to come tomorrow with the bouncers, latest 12noon.

Lady Killed By Ogun Cherubim & Seraphim Prophet Buried Amid Tears (Photos)

Raliat Sanni, who was gruesomely murdered and her headless body buried in a shallow grave in the altar of a cherubim and seraphim church in Ewekoro, has finally been laid to rest.

The burial, which took on Monday, April 30, at her 38, Ilupeju Street residence, Wasimi, near Abeokuta, Ogun State, South-west Nigeria, forced tears out of everyone, including her biological and foster children, numbering nine.

Her aged parents, Pa Hassan Adebola, 84 and 75-year old Madam Funmilayo Adebola, who could not witness the burial, both sobbed uncontrollably.

The bereaved mother of the slain Raliat intermittently asked, "How will I cater for these children at this age of mine, after retiring from active farming? It was Raliat that gave me life.

The children, whose ages range between four and 17, and just came back from school shortly before the rites of burial were performed, visibly expressed pains of losing such a caring mother, and reigned curses on those responsible for their travails.

Friends, siblings, peer and neighbors, present at the burial, to bid the victim good bye, were not left out of the seeming crying competition

It should be recalled that Tobiloba Ipinse, 37, founder of Holy Garden Christian Evangelical Church, a branch of Cherubim and Seraphim at Elebute area of Ewekoro, and the victim's lover, accused Shopeju Daniel, 42, of Oba Onimaju, also a Cherubim and Seraphim, at Egbado Junction, Itori, of masterminding the evil act.Tobiloba, had claimed innocence and accused Shopeju of orchestrating the killing, even as he affirmed that the dastardly act took place in his presence.

UNILAG Produces First Set Of Graduates In Chinese
User Avatar Forum: Universities
Posted by: Edoman - 05-03-2018, 12:09 PM - No Replies

The University of Lagos has produced the first set graduates in the Chinese undergraduate programme of the university.

This is according the Vice Chancellor of the institution, Oluwatoyin Ogundipe on Wednesday at a press briefing ahead of the 49th Convocation Ceremony.

EduCeleb.com recalls that the university admitted its first set of students to study Chinese in the 2013/2014 session. Their completion of the programme in the 2016/2017 session makes them also the first set of graduates in Chinese from a Nigerian university.

Chinese was introduced as a programme in the Department of Linguistics, African and Asian Studies (LAAS) after about four years of running the Confucius Institute in the same university.

Confucius Institute was jointly established by the University of Lagos and the Beijing Institute of Technology in China in 2009. It still runs diploma programmes in Chinese under UNILAG’s Faculty of Arts towards promoting Chinese language and culture.
Of all the graduates produced for the session, four who studied Chinese had First Class honours.

A further breakdown of the graduate figures shows that 12,638 graduating students would be awarded their degrees, diplomas and certificates.

Out of these, 53.9% were first degrees or diploma holders while 46.1% are for postgraduate degrees.
“The figures demonstrate the University’s drive to enhance postgraduate education in Nigeria through research,” Professor Ogundipe said.

Out of the undergraduate products, 245 are in the first class division, 1892 are in the Second Class Upper Division, and 2959 are in the Second Class Lower Division.

Also, 1227 had Third Class, 93 had pass degrees while 400 had degrees or diplomas that were not classified.
The Professor of Botany also announced that Mrs Mutiat Bolanle Ibrahim from the Department of Pharmacognosy emerged the overall Best PhD Thesis.

Also, three best graduating students emerged. They are Matthew Jeffrey Jude of the Department of Biochemistry, Roy-Larinde Bosun Abbas of the Department of Chemical and Petroleum Engineering and Babawale Oludare Emmanuel of the Department of Chemistry, all with a Commutative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 4.97.

At the convocation ceremonies, one professor would be awarded emeritus professorship while four others would be given distinguished professorship.

“As part of our culture of celebrating academics who have rendered meritorious services to this community and the nation by making a positive impact in their various fields and areas of expertise, we shall be conferring a well-deserved honour of Emeritus Professorship on Professor Mabel Modupe Ogunlesi, formerly of the Department of Chemistry and the former Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academics & Research) between 2007-2012,” the VC said.

The four professors to be honoured with distinguished professorship are Professor Herbert A.B. Coker of the Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry, Professor Ayodeji Olukoju of the Department of History and Strategic Studies, Professor Taiwo Osipitan of the Department of Public Law and Professor Onatolu Olukoya of the Department of Oral & Maxillofacial Pathology/Biology.

Among activities during the week long 2016/2017 convocation ceremonies is the Investiture Ceremony for the 12th UNILAG VC, Ogundipe as well as an Exhibition at the Senate Building Car Park on Tuesday, 8th May, 2018.

On the same day, the Convocation Lecture titled “Inclusion: The Path to a New Nation” would be delivered by the Executive Governor of Lagos State, Akinwunmi Ambode at the J.F. Ade Ajayi Auditorium.

Between Wednesday, 9th May and Friday, 11th May, 2018, the graduation ceremonies would hold.
The first day is expected to feature the graduation of graduating students in the Faculties of Arts, Education, Environmental Sciences, Science and Social Sciences.
On the second day, those in the Faculties of Basic Medical Sciences, Clinical Sciences, Dental Sciences, Management Sciences, Engineering, Law, Pharmacy and the Distance Learning Institute would be graduating.

For the final day of the Ceremonies, graduating students of the School of Postgraduate Studies would be awarded their degrees while those to be conferred distinguished and emeritus professorship would be honoured.

Cristiano Ronaldo’s Engagement Ring For Georgina Rodriguez Cost A Whopping N300m
User Avatar Forum: Other Stories
Posted by: Edoman - 05-03-2018, 12:06 PM - Replies (1)

Quote:Cristiano Ronaldo is not one to shy away from flaunting it if he has got it. The Real Madrid forward who is set to partake in another UEFA Champions league final after his team hit the final edging out Bayern Munich Tuesday, is equally set to walk his long time girl friend Georgina Rodriguez to the altar with actual date still under rap.

The Portuguese forward in the mean time has reportedly doled out a whooping £615,000 (Six hundred and fifteen thousand pounds) about (N301million) for the engagement ring.

Neither has officially confirmed that they’ve taken a big step forward in their relationship, having now been together quite some time as well as having had a child together.

Rodriguez is regularly snapped on Instagram looking after Ronaldo’s children, and so the couple seems very tight and very much planning a long future together.

According to The Sun, speculation was rife following a photo which appeared to show Rodriguez wearing an engagement ring, they’ve suggested that they’ve found the Cartier ring she was wearing and it may have cost the Portuguese superstar no less than a staggering £615,000.

Her social media following went crazy after the short video was posted on Instagram stories, sparking huge rumours that the pair are planning to tie the knot at some stage.

With Real Madrid booking their place in the Champions League final, coupled with his participation at the World Cup in

Russia this summer, it remains to be seen whether or not Ronaldo is planning to take time out of his busy schedule and wed Rodriguez later this summer.

Ronaldo has four kids with Cristiano Jr and his two one-year old twins Eva Maria and Mateo previously born to surrogate mothers. Georgina Rodriguez recently gave birth to their first daughter together.

Ronaldo was once quoted as saying he would love to have seven kids and seven Ballon d’or trophies.

FG Targets $25bn Investments From Gas Sector In 10 Years
User Avatar Forum: Business/Investment

[Image: Dr.Maikanti-Baru-696x445.png]Dr.Maikanti Baru
Lagos / Abuja – Nigeria is expecting over $25 billion investments in its gas sector in the next 10 years, according to Maikanti Baru, the Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC).
Baru disclosed this on Wednesday in a lead paper at the ongoing 50th Offshore Technology Conference (OTC) in Houston, United States of America.
He said huge opportunities abound in Nigeria’s gas sector.

He was also quoted in a statement as describing the nation’s petroleum industry as the largest and most vibrant in sub-Saharan Africa with lots of potentials, especially in the deep water and untapped gas resources.
He told the gathering that Nigeria offered unique opportunities for investment in exploration, refining, storage, transportation, power, distribution, and marketing of petroleum products, adding that the nation’s gas reform was anchored on a robust strategic framework that was focused on maximum economic impact through the gas.

Baru further announced a three-point smart strategy aimed at ending gas flaring in two years in the nation’s oil and gas industry.
Speaking on the theme, ‘Nigeria’s Gas Flare Commercialisation, Prospects & Opportunities’, Baru explained that in the last decade, gas flaring in Nigeria had reduced significantly from 25% to 10%.
READ ALSO:  NNPC Paid Self N2.592trn Subsidy In 2017 – Senate

According to him, the multi-pronged approach taken by the NNPC would ensure a sustainable solution to the historical problem of flaring, thereby turning waste into dollars.
He explained that the three-point strategy championed by NNPC to arrest the growth in gas flare includes ensuring non-submission of Field Development Plans (FDPs) to the Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR) without a viable and executable gas utilisation plan, a move aimed at ensuring no new gas flare in current and future projects.
The other two strategies, Baru added, were a steady reduction of existing flare through a combination of targeted policy interventions in the Gas Master-plan as well as the re-invigoration of the flare penalty through the 2016 Nigeria Gas Flare Commercialisation Programme (NGFCP) and through legislation, that is, ban on gas flaring via the recent Flare Gas (Prevention of Waste and Pollution) Regulations 2018.
He explained that the development would not only see Nigeria dropping from being the second highest gas flaring nation in the world to seventh, it would also signify a major milestone in its gas commercialisation prospects.

“Total flares have significantly reduced to current levels of about 800mmscfd and in the next one to two years we would have completely ensured zero routine flares from all the gas producers,” the GMD stated.

The NNPC, he said, had embarked on the most aggressive expansion of the gas infrastructure network aimed at creating access to the market.
“Today, we have completed and commissioned almost 600km of new gas pipelines, thereby connecting all existing power plants to permanent gas supply pipelines.
“We are also currently completing the construction of the strategic 127km Obiafu-Obrikom-Oben gas pipeline – ‘OB 3’ connecting the Eastern supply to the Western demand centres,” he added.
Baru further noted that aside looping Escravos-Lagos Pipeline System (ELPS 2) gas pipeline projects to increase gas volume capacity to at least 2bcf/day, the corporation had recently signed the contracts to kick off the 614km Ajaokuta-Kaduna-Kano (AKK) pipeline project, which on completion, would deliver gas to the ongoing power plants in the areas and revive the manufacturing industries in the northern part of the country.
He assured that there was evidence that the interventions undertaken by the corporation were working as gas supply to the domestic market was growing at an encouraging rate, having tripled from 500mmcf/d in 2010 to about 1500mmcf/d currently.

Baru informed that the aggressive development of gas infrastructure (pipelines and processing plant) between supply sources and the market would also create a sustainable evacuation route for currently flared gas and other gas sources.
Meanwhile, Ibe Kachikwu, Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, has confirmed he would be present at Africa Oil Week to drive forward transformative projects across the continent through the Africa Oil Week billed to hold later this month.
The Africa infrastructure deficit sits at $90 billion which poses a huge challenge to investors and operators alike.
He said there were significant opportunities for the Nigerian oil sector, adding that the launch of the 7 Big Wins had altered the funding capacity for the upstream sector which had been a strong incentive for additional investment in the upstream sector.
He stated that projects like Egina deep water project worth $15 billion; Zabazaba, $10 billion; Bonga, $10 billion, and others have put investments at over $40 billion potential investments over the next five years.
“Revamping our infrastructure is necessary to capitalise on these opportunities. What we need is to get the policy thrust and the incentives to drive the policy thrust,” Kachikwu said

Pastor Udoh Okon Arrested For Raping A 9-Year-Old Girl In Lagos (Photo)
User Avatar Forum: Other Stories

@APROKOGIRL

A-54-year- pastor, Udoh Okon, has been arrested by the Lagos State Police Command for allegedly raping a 9-year-old girl.
.
.
TheNation reports that Okon, the Pastor of Christ Abiding Church, Bankole Street, Famous Bus Stop, Shomolu, was arrested by the gender section of the command yesterday following a case of defilement filed by the victim’s mother, Peace Effiong. .
.
According to Police Commissioner, Edgal, the woman reported that she noticed her daughter was acting strangely, adding that she checked the child on April 13, while she was sleeping and saw semen coming out of her private part. .
.
Alarmed by the discovery, Edgal said the woman told detectives she woke her child up and questioned her, adding that the victim mentioned Okon as the man who has been raping her since last year. .
.
He said: “The little girl went further to reveal that it was in the pastor’s wife’s shop at the aforementioned address that she was defiled. Medical examination showed that the victim’s hymen had been ruptured long ago, an indication that the suspect has been having carnal knowledge of her for a long time. .
.
Investigation into this case is in progress.” The pastor denied the allegation, claiming that she only appealed to the victim’s mother not to punish her in public. .
.
He said: “I and few people went to the woman’s shop and saw her daughter kneeling down with blocks on her hands and she was crying. I asked what happened and her mother said somebody told her that whenever the child came to the compound, someone used to make love to her. .
.
Our shops are not far from each other. I begged the woman to forgive the child and that she should not punish her publicly anymore. She did not listen to me and so, I left them and went to my own shop. I am surprised they said I defiled her. .
.
The child could be my granddaughter. There was a day she came to my shop and I asked her to assist me in carrying empty crates. I sell non-alcoholic beverages. She helped me carry the crates to my other shop and kept them outside. That was all.”

ONITSHA—THE Host Communities Producing Oil and Gas, HOSCON, yesterday, said it had discovered no fewer than 50 oil wells in about 12 communities in Anambra state waiting for exploration.

The state chairman of HOSCON, Anthony Chiokwe who disclosed this yesterday during their general meeting at Nsugbe in Oyi Local Government Area, said contrary to the allusions by some people that the oil in the state was not found in commercial quantity, if the 50 oil wells could be harnessed, a lot of revenues would be generated by both the federal and state governments, as well as the host communities.

Chiokwe further disclosed that this number of oil wells “were arrived at following his mandate to all his members to go to their various communities and bring a comprehensive list of oil wells, take photographs of such wells, discuss with various town union leaders and their traditional rulers and find out if they are interested in exploring the oil deposit in their localities.”

He mentioned the six communities where the oil wells have so far been discovered as Ogwu-Ikpelle and Ogwu-Aniocha communities of Ogbaru Local Government Area; Anaku, Umerum and Omor communities in Ayamelum Local Government Area; Aguleri in Anambra East Local Government Area, Abagana in Njikoka Local Government Area and Ifitedunu, Ukpo and Umunnachi in Dunukofia Local Government Area and Okija in Ihiala Local Government Area.

Flanked by other executive members of HOSCON, including the Deputy Chairman, Anene Onyilegbe Gregory; State Woman Leader, Hon. Uju Izuakor and the National Community Liaison Officer, NCLO, representing Anambra state HOSCOM, Mrs. Felicia Nwankwo,, Chiolwe disclosed that Aguleri alone has 26 oil wells, while Ogwu-Ikpelle has as much as 16 oil wells, just like Ogwu-Aniocha has five wells, Anake has nine wells, Umerum, three wells, two wells in Abagana, while Okija and Umunnachi wells were said to have been overflown and are currently spilling.

He explained that most of the oil wells were discovered by Shell Development Corporation in the past years, while Sterling Global Resources, an Indian company is currently exploring one of the 16 oil wells at Ogwu-Ikpelle, just as Orient Petroleum resources is busy exploring some other oil wells in Anambra West, Anambra East and Ayamelum council areas of the state.

In his speech, the Deputy Chairman, Onyilegbe appealed to the state government to urgently set up an Oil Development Commission like in other oil producing states, to enable the federal ministry of petroleum resources pay the federal government approved 13 percent oil derivation fund to the state, for onward transmission to the host communities.

At Omor oil field, the Secretary-General of the town union Joseph Nonyelum confirmed that the oil wells were discovered by Shell many years ago, but now Orient Petroleum Resources are exploring the oil at Omor and Umerum communities.

The National Chairman of, HOSCON, Prince Mike Emuh has during his recent visit to Anambra state where he had a crucial meeting with traditional rulers in the state, disclosed that the federal government had recognized Anambra’s status as an oil producing state, adding that about 10 modular refineries had been approved by the government each to be cited in each of the oil producing states in the country, out of which one of the refineries would be cited in Anambra.

Emuh further told the traditional rulers that the federal government also approved the employment of 10,000 youths to serve as oil surveillance squad from all the oil producing states, out of which 1,000 youths are to be employed in Anambra state, adding that he was in the state to ask the royal fathers to mention a particular place where the modular refinery would be cited in the state and to prepare for the selection of the youths to be employed.

Emuh who is also a member of federal government’s governing council on petroleum, also handed over all the documents containing the approvals from the federal government and a copy of HOSCON’s constitution to the royal fathers.

PDP Will Win Between 25 And 27 State In 2019 - Atiku Predicts
User Avatar Forum: Politics
Posted by: Edoman - 05-03-2018, 11:21 AM - No Replies

During his consultation visit to Akwa Ibom, the Former Vice President of Nigeria, Atiku Abubakar, predicted that the People’s Democratic Party-PDP, will win between 25 and 27 state in the forthcoming 2019 election.

According to the Nation, the former Vice President said his assurance of victory for the party was predicated on the fact that Nigerians are already fed up with the hardship and intolerable disposition of the present APC-led government.

Atiku, who made this know yesterday at the PDP Secretariat during his consultation visit in Uyo, challenged Nigerians to oust APC from government if they desired to continue to have a country.

The former Vice President, said;

“The country is in its worse state today. I have never seen it since the civil war. Ethnic division, north against south, this is very dangerous for our survival as a country.

“We must do all what we can to address this situation. We have to unite together to arrest this, otherwise you would one day wake up and find out that we don’t have a country, God forbid.

“We may end up with 25-27 PDP states in Nigeria, because every part of this country is fed up with this government. And this is the most intolerant government I have ever seen in this country. And unfortunately for us, he was not even part of this struggle. The situation in APC states is horrible. You cannot even meet like this. They are intolerable because they were not part of the struggle for actualization of democracy. If PDP was like this, there would not have been any opposition party in this country”.

“Let us therefore unite and make sure that we free this country and our people from this situation. The political restructuring of this country is inevitable, whether we like it or not.

“We must deploy resources and powers to the federated units of this country. If states and Local Government Areas are given more resources and powers, the people would hold them accountable”.

Atiku decried the current disunity, ehnicity, division and religious intollerance, promoted by the government of President Buhari, noting that such was quite dangerous for the continued survival and oneness of the country, maintaining that given the extent of decay in the country at the moment, Nigerians would need to support a candidate with the qualities, capacity, experience and the qualification to face the challenges. To actualized this, Atiku said,“I can do that job, but only with your support”.

Nigerians May Wake One Day To Realize That They Have No Country - Atiku Says
User Avatar Forum: Politics

Quote:Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has challenged Nigerians to rise to change the present state of affairs in the country if they truly desire to continue to have a country.

Atiku, who observed that Nigerians have never had it this bad since the Civil War, predicted that Nigeria may soon have between 25-27 PDP States, as the people are already fed up with the hardship and intolerable disposition of the present APC-led government.

Speaking at the PDP Secretariat during a consultation visit in Uyo on Wednesday, the PDP presidential hopeful regretted that those who are making Nigeria unbearable for its citizens today, were not part of the struggles towards the actualization of democracy.

His words: “The country is in its worse state today. I have never seen it since the civil war. Ethnic division, north against south, this is very very dangerous for our survival as a country.

“The situation in APC states is horrible. You cannot even meet like this. They are intolerable because they were not part of the struggle for actualization of democracy. If PDP was like this, there would not have been any opposition party in this country.

“Let us therefore unite and make sure that we free this country and our people from this situation. The political restructuring of this country is inevitable, whether we like it or not.

“We must deploy resources and powers to the federated units of this country. If states and local government areas are given more resources and powers, the people would hold them accountable”.

He decried the disunity, ehnicity, division and religious intollerance so far promoted by the present federal government, noting that such was quite dangerous for the continued survival and oneness of the country.

He maintained that given the extent of decay in the country at the moment, Nigerians would need to support a candidate with the qualities, capacity, experience and the qualification to face the challenges. “I can do that job, but only with your support,” he assured.

Earlier, the former National Chairman of the Peoples’ Democratic Party, Chief Jim Nwodo, said Nigeria has reached the lowest point where hunger, poverty and killing of the people have become the order of the day.

He described Nigeria as a country under sieze when there is no war, adding that the present federal government has failed to fulfill its campaign promises.

“We have never had it this bad. We were promised we’ll never go abroad for medical treatment, but the person who made the promise is first to go.

“Someone we’ve not seen his school certificate calls our youths lazy. In this state of total hopelessness, we bring a Messiah today. An exemplary entrepreneur, who recognizes intellect”.

In their goodwill messages, stakeholders of the Peoples’ Democratic Party in Akwa Ibom State unanimously expressed optimism that Atiku has the pedigree and the distribalized disposition to pull Nigeria out of its present predicament.

The party leaders consisting the state Party Chairman, Obong Paul Ekpo, Senator Anietie Okon, Sen. Helen Esuene, Chief Ndueso Essien, former Governor Chris Ekpenyong recalled Atiku’s role during the resource control struggles. They unanimously stressed the need for restructuring Nigeria and assured that Akwa Ibom practises PDP as a religion.

“If the state governor this time around gives a directive that is not in our collective interests, we the elders of the party would deviate,” Ekpenyong assured.

Inside PMB's 2019 Campaign Strategy & The Keyamo Connection - Premium Times
User Avatar Forum: Politics
Posted by: Edoman - 05-03-2018, 11:15 AM - No Replies

Quote:At a recent brainstorming session with some of his top aides, President Muhammadu Buhari expressed concerns about the limitations of his anti-corruption effort, saying it seemed his administration had spent too much time on rhetoric than give vital sectors needed attention.

Mr Buhari feared he had little to campaign on, a source knowledgeable about the meeting told PREMIUM TIMES. The president argued that if he were to step down, the “damage would be much”, therefore, he needed a second term to “work for the people”, our sources said.

“The president pointed to the fact that three years down the line, he is not busy going around cutting tapes to commission projects,” one source said on the condition his identity be protected because he was not authorised to speak to the media.

That meeting was a defining moment in Mr Buhari’s already turbulent presidency. At the session, aides agreed the president needed to seek re-election, but all sides arrived at a telling decision. The corruption war rhetoric, even though perceived to be largely without substance, must continue if the president stood a chance of a second term, they advised.

“The meeting analysed the situation and arrived at the conclusion that the best option available to them is to still use the corruption discourse,” a source said.
After a prolonged wait, Mr Buhari predictably announced his intention to run for office again early April, telling his party’s national executive committee he took the decision following a barrage of calls for him to run again.

That declaration, unlike Mr Buhari’s 2014 announcement, has been met with increased disinterest, even amongst the president’s supporters.

“Nobody in this administration has shown me any innovative way of fighting corruption and the current president continues to operate the same opaque and fraudulent system,” said Gbola Oba, a public affairs commentator and CEO of Automedics Limited in Lagos, who campaigned for Mr Buhari in 2015 across the Southwest.

“The unfortunate irony that can become an icing on the cake of the disillusionment and the predicament that his anti-corruption war is the brazen corruption under perpetrated or condoned by Mr Buhari, especially the Maina scandal or the recent scandal involving his Finance Minister.”

Critics have characterised the administration’s corruption initiative as selective and unconvincing. While several former administration officials have been arrested for alleged fraud, none has been convicted. A few have either returned or forfeited loots to the federal government, while far more corruption suspects still walk free.

Even more, the Buhari administration has faced its own allegations of corruption, with the Maina case, NNPC’s uncovered N50 billion, amongst many. Several cabinet members, including Ministers Kemi Adeosun and Rotimi Amaechi, and security chiefs Tukur Buratai, Abdulrahman Dambazau, have also been accused of fraud.

Aides said the meeting with the president before his declaration showed Mr Buhari somehow agreed that the corruption war was not as effective. They said the meeting especially agreed the government had done little to justify its claim of massive fraud under the Jonathan government.

“The president realised shortly after assumption of office that several allegations his party raised about the past government were based on false dossier,” another source said.

The presidency did not respond to requests for comments on this claim.

Campaign strategy and Keyamo connection
Our sources said the president’s advisers at the meeting counselled that regardless of the current limitation, the Buhari second term campaign would have to stick to anti-corruption as its major rallying cry.

While the message would still be same, the approach would differ, they advised. This time, the campaign will seek to be more effective by providing “concrete evidence” in support of allegations of corruption against opposition elements, especially those nominated as presidential candidates.

The appointment of popular lawyer, Festus Keyamo, to lead the communication team of President Buhari’s campaign in 2019, was a deliberate design to further that strategy, our sources said. Mr Keyamo’s appointment was advised by Transport Minister and chairman of the Buhari 2019 campaign organisation, Rotimi Amaechi.

The idea, our sources said, was that as a top government prosecutor who has handled several prominent corruption cases for the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Mr Keyamo’s access to corruption dossiers of opposition politicians would come handy at the appropriate time.

Mr. Keyamo declined comments to PREMIUM TIMES Monday night, saying it would be inappropriate for him to comment on a statement that was not publicly made or officially communicated to him by the president.

Tax as a weapon

The campaign has another strategy, PREMIUM TIMES learnt.

For politically-exposed persons who have long dragged their feet in meeting their tax obligations, the Buhari team is also plotting to make them pay a huge political cost, our sources said. The ongoing Voluntary Asset and Income Declaration Scheme (VAIDS) campaign will serve as a vital tool there.

The strategy would be to use politicians’ non-compliance with tax statutes to cripple their finance sources ahead of the election, our sources added. Some politicians might even be more unfortunate as the campaign strategy include shutting down their businesses, arresting and arraigning opponents to neutralise and dissuade them from presenting any serious political challenge.

Some analysts say the communication strategy of the Buhari campaign might seem robust, but the ability of Mr Keyamo to successfully anchor it and earn the president a second term could be more tasking than estimated.
“How they think a man who bungled Bola Ige’s murder case and could not successfully prosecute a corruption case despite years of humongous earnings from taxpayers money could lead a campaign to victory beats the imagination,” PDP strategist Demola Olarewaju told PREMIUM TIMES. “But we would like to have him on board.”
Mr Olarewaju said the president’s three years in office have further revealed him as not only corrupt but “morally and politically toxic for Nigeria’s survival”.

But the president’s apparent sloppiness towards old and recent corruption in his government may have a lot to do with his inherent personality traits than complicity, said APC strategist Ayo Akanji.

“The president is deliberate and meticulous in taking actions,” Mr Akanji said. “But this is not to assume that he doesn’t strike at the appropriate time as you could see with the dismissal of Babachir Lawal and Ayodele Oke.”

Mr Akanji said the president’s conviction that corruption is the bane of Nigeria’s development remained as strong as ever, saying he does not expect him to flinch from the message.

“The president would continue to see corruption as repulsive,” he said. “But this campaign will not be sacrificed for the country’s national security and economy to ensure that none of his three-pronged focus is abandoned.”

The Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps, Brigadier General Zakari Kazaure, while assuring Corps Members posted to serve in Taraba State of adequate security has warned then against evangelism.

He insisted that the concern of the corps members should be to serve and not to go and indoctrinate the host communities

Kazaure said these on Wednesday in Jalingo when he visited Corps members currently undergoing orientation course at the NYSC camp, Sibre, near Jalingo.

Represented by the Director of administration and management, Alhaji Habibu Kurawa, the DG said that the NYSC management was aware that elections were around the corner and had put in place measures to ensure the safety of each corps member posted to the state.

“I can assure you that we don’t wait till the election before working for the security of Corps members.

“We have put in place measures to ensure that your accommodations are well guarded and officials on the ground have instructions to collaborate with the relevant security agencies in your respective places of Primary Assignment to guarantee your safety.

“Let me, however, warn you that you are posted to go and serve and not to go and evangelise. Your concern should be to serve and not to go and indoctrinate your host communities. Conversion of souls is not your concern,” Kazaure said.

He urged the Corps members to conduct themselves well and be good ambassadors of their states, tribes, and schools.

He noted that the society expects a lot from the corps members and urged them to work hard to live up to the expectations.

The DG called on the corps members to avail themselves of the opportunities in the state to build themselves for self-sufficiency rather than looking for white collar jobs that are rarely available.

Give us land for Air Peace’s Aviation Hub, Ugwuanyi pleads with FG

In furtherance of his administration’s investment drive, Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State on Wednesday appealed to the Nigerian Air Force to allow the state government take over the Force’s piece of land located near the Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu to be used by an indigenous airline, Air Peace Limited for the establishment of a world standard Aircraft Maintenance Facility in the state.

Gov. Ugwuanyi, who made the appeal at the Government House, Enugu when the Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshall Sadique Abubakar, paid him a courtesy visit, stated that the request was “in line with the state government’s aspiration to create an Aviation Hub that would support the policies of the Federal Government towards the development of the Aviation Sector”.

The governor disclosed that the appeal was sequel to an earlier request to the Nigerian Air Force by his administration, adding that the state government had promised to give the Force “an alternative piece of land of equal or even larger size in Enugu in exchange”.

Emphasizing the importance of the proposed Aircraft Maintenance Facility towards the economic development of the state and the country at large, Gov. Ugwuanyi stressed that “in granting this request, the NAF would be making yet another outstanding contribution to the development of the nation’s aviation sector in addition to its traditional roles”.

The Chief of Air Staff was in Enugu for the groundbreaking ceremony for the Headquarters Complex, Ground Training Command, Nigerian Air force Base, Enugu, which was performed by the governor at a colourful event.

At the groundbreaking ceremony, Gov. Ugwuanyi commended the Federal Government for its efforts towards ensuring that the Armed Forces are well equipped to combat the security challenges facing the country.

He thanked the Chief of Air Staff and the hierarchy of the Nigerian Air Force, for the decision to site the headquarters of the new command in Enugu, disclosing that it “will undoubtedly help to reinforce the atmosphere of peace and security in the state and which in turn, stimulates rapid socio-economic development”.

“As a government, we have always enjoyed a very cordial working relationship and strategic partnership with the Nigerian Air Force through its formations and establishments in the State”, Gov. Ugwuanyi said, while reassuring the Force of his administration’s continued support and cooperation towards the success of the command.

The governor gave credit to the Air Force and other security agencies in the state for the enviable status Enugu has earned as “one of the safest and most secure states in the country”.

In his address, the Chief of Air Staff expressed delight at the governor’s cooperation and support to the Nigerian Air Force, noting that the new command in Enugu was “very strategic” towards the peace and security of the country.

Air Marshall Abubakar disclosed the Force’s plan to establish a hospital in Enugu that will take care of its personnel and some neighboring communities, adding that there will be “a special intervention on upgrade of our secondary schools” in the state to improve the standard of learning.

He assured that the Enugu Command will take off “very soon”.

Forte Oil To Sell Nigerian Assets, Exit Ghana
User Avatar Forum: Oil/Gas
Posted by: Edoman - 05-03-2018, 09:55 AM - No Replies

Forte Oil has said it plans to sell its upstream services and power businesses in Nigeria and divest from Ghana to focus on its core fuel distribution operation at home, according to a report by Reuters on Wednesday.

The move comes as a surprise about-turn for a company, whose Chief Executive, Akin Akinfemiwa, told investors in Lagos in August that he wanted to aggressively pursue mergers and acquisition opportunities along the energy value chain, and acquire marginal oilfields to boost its upstream business.

The company, majority owned by billionaire, Femi Otedola, has also been in talks with a major refinery to form a strategic partnership for local refining of petroleum products.

Forte Oil’s share price plunged by 49 per cent last year after the company struggled to get hard currency to import products. It now has a total market value of N57.3bn but gave no indication on Wednesday of how much the businesses for sale might fetch.

It said interest costs attributable to the businesses to be sold stood at N2.2bn as of December. It now plans to seek shareholder approval for the sale on May 23 and appoint advisers, it said in a notice to investors.

Forte Oil did not give a reason for the change in direction but said the downstream sector in Nigeria had gone through changes in recent years and was expected to evolve further.

It added that the industry had operated under a tightly regulated fixed margin but could be deregulated, especially given its impact on the Nigerian currency and import bill.

The government increased petrol prices by 67 per cent to N145 in 2016 to cut subsidies paid for fuel imports after a plunge in oil prices hit state revenues, caused dollar shortages and halted infrastructure projects, with firms laying off tens of thousands of workers.

However, the hike did not prevent fuel shortages, which have plagued Nigeria for much of last year and this year.

Nigeria’s existing and ageing refineries have a daily domestic refining capacity of six million litres, while the daily consumption stands at 35 million litres, so the country has to import the bulk of what it consumes.

Forte Oil has two storage depots, five aviation fuel depots and a lubricant blending plant. It also has 100 trucks for distribution of products across its more than 500 retail outlets, which will require a lot of capital to expand.

Its 57-per cent owned power unit, Amperion Power Distribution Company, has a lot of receivables due from the state-backed off-taker and its upstream unit has contributed less than seven per cent to group earnings over the past three years.

The unit in Ghana has declared losses over the last three years and has uncollectible trade debts due to tough economic conditions and a currency devaluation in the cocoa-rich country.

Forte Oil said proceeds from the divestment would be used to expand its downstream fuel distribution business and to invest in storage infrastructure.

RHAPSODY OF REALITIES

THURSDAY, 3RD MAY.

Pastor Chris

TOPIC ✨ Empowered To Prosper ✨

Blessed is the man that trusteth in the Lord, and whose hope the Lord is. For he shall be as a tree planted by the waters, and that spreadeth out her roots by the river, and shall not see when heat cometh, but her leaf shall be green; and shall not be careful in the year of drought, neither shall cease from yielding fruit (Jeremiah 17:7-8).

Oftentimes, Christians use certain words, not knowing exactly what they mean. For example, to some people, “God bless you” is a nice church greeting; that’s all they think it is, but it’s something really powerful if you understand what it means. To be blessed means to be empowered to prosper; that you’re blessed means there’s an empowerment on you for prosperity, excellence, victory, fruitfulness and productivity in every area of your life.

Now, because you’re blessed, it’s impossible for you to be defeated or disadvantaged; you’re protected and preserved by the Lord. This doesn’t mean you won’t face challenges, but irrespective of the challenges or oppositions, you’ll always win; where others fail, you win. This is your life as a Christian. You’ve been empowered to prosper in all things and deal wisely in the affairs of life. This took effect when you received the Holy Spirit.

Even if you were placed in a desert or barren land, you’ll still prosper; the desert will turn into a fruitful field, because you’re the blessed of the Lord. Live every day with this consciousness.

PRAYER

Dear Father, you’ve blessed me and empowered me to prosper in all things and deal wisely in all of my affairs. I’m supernaturally protected and preserved, walking in divine favour continually; everything connected to me prospers, in the Name of the Lord Jesus. Amen.

Further Study:

Genesis 12:2-3 And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing: 3 And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed.

Galatians 3:8-9 And the scripture, foreseeing that God would justify the heathen through faith, preached before the gospel unto Abraham, [saying], In thee shall all nations be blessed. 9 So then they which be of faith are blessed with faithful Abraham.

Members of First Baptist Church, Garki, Abuja are seen in the pictures below protesting against the killings by terrorist groups across the country. This is coming after a call from the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) asking Christians to protest last Sunday against killings perpetrated by Fulani herdsmen in Benue and across Nigeria.

Pope Francis, after a meeting with Nigerian bishops, also spoke against the incessant killings going on in the country. His words came after President of the United States of America, Donald Trump warned that the killing of Christians in Nigeria will not be accepted by the US.

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has fired yet another shot at President Muhammadu Buhari, saying “the mediocre performance of Buhari cannot be described as by anybody as superlative even by morons”.

Obasanjo said this while denying the reports that he has decided to endorse Buhari’s second term.

The elder statesman said he has made known his position about Buhari in a letter he wrote to the president in January.

In the letter, Obasanjo advised Buhari against seeking re-election, saying doing so would amount to overstretching the tolerance level of Nigerians.

Rita Nzelu’s Family Refunds N70 Bride Price To Simeon Okoro's Family
User Avatar Forum: Other Stories
Posted by: Edoman - 05-02-2018, 10:49 PM - No Replies

The Nzelu family of Ozubulu in Anambra State have returned the N70 bride price paid for the hand of their daughter, Rita Nzelu Over 14 years ago by the family of Simeon Okoro (from Imo State) to officially end the marriage between both as culture demands.

Insiders say the returning of Bride price happened in February 2018 following series of marital squabbles which has afflicted the union since 2017. According to an eye witness who witnessed the dissolution, both families decided after efforts to reconcile the couple failed both in London and Nigeria.

The person squealed that with the cultural dissolution, the actress and her husband are now free to pursue legal dissolution in the court.

Reasons adduced to the break-up of the union ranged from accusations of infidelity to jealousy. “After Rita got married bout fourteen years ago ,she decided to build her home first and then return to movies later. She did that for the first ten years or so. She temporarily left the industry to attend to family first but since she returned some years back, it has not been funny for the couple. The long hours on locations, took a toll on the marriage.

Especially as She now produces her own films and marriage and career somehow clashed....Especially as the spouse failed to Understand..''

Rita Nzelu was Nollywood's sweet heart before she gradually went quiet and eventually vanished from the movie scene and reappeared years later in London.

Saraki: Police IG Idris Disobeying Senate Not New… He Did To Buhari
User Avatar Forum: Retired Forums. Please Make Your Post Within The 3 Forums In General Discussion

Quote:By Kemi Busari

The Senate President, Bukola Saraki, has condemned the decision of the Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, to snub the senate’s invitation twice.

For the second time, Mr Idris on Wednesday failed to appear before the senate plenary despite a formal invitation.
He was invited to answer questions on the arrest of a senator, Dino Melaye, and killings across the country.

The police boss was first summoned on Wednesday, April 25, but he failed to appear.

“I don’t want us to labour too much. At the upper chamber, we must show maturity and statesmanship. I don’t think anybody who has been around enough to observe the practice of our democracy knows that this action cannot be right.

“Under constitutional powers, it requires the IG to come and give a report on the incident involving a colleague and the incessant killings happening in the country. He has felt that he cannot come and wants to delegate it to a junior to come,” he said.

He noted that no police IG has ever refused to appear before the senate since Nigeria started practising democracy.

The Senate President advised his colleagues to give the police boss one more week to reflect and make his appearance.

“No IG has ever refused to appear before the Senate since we started practicing democracy. I don’t think that has happened before. But we must know these actions are danger to our democracy.

“Again, we cannot say it is just to us because the President told us that he told him to go to Benue and the man refused to go to Benue and he is sitting there and he is doing this. I want to appeal to our colleagues, let us approach this in two ways.

“One way, we give him another period for him to reflect the enormity of his action because whatever happens today sets a precedence for future and as such it is important that we do not allow issues like this.

“The leader of the Senate and the Chairman on Police should engage with the executive and send our position. There are powers we can exercise which are not in the interest of us making progress in this country.

Since the beginning of the year, over 500 or 600 have been killed and we believe that the man in charge of enforcing this does not think he needs to sit down with Senate to engage with us when there is something wrong somewhere.

“So let us hold and give them time within a week and come back to us and I am sure that wisdom would prevail.”

Real Estate Agent Arrested For Impersonating EFCC Chairman, Magu (PHOTO)
User Avatar Forum: Other Stories
Posted by: Edoman - 05-02-2018, 10:16 PM - No Replies

@POLITICSNGR

Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, have arrested one Felix Idowu, a real estate agent and a graduate of political science, for impersonating Ibrahim Magu, the anti-graft agency’s Acting Chairman.
Idowu had in the assumed capacity swindled unsuspecting victims of their hard earned income.

The suspect upon arrest was found with documents which had the signature of the EFCC boss forged.
Prior to his arrest, the EFCC received intelligence report that the suspect while posing as an operative of the EFCC requested for money in order ‘to kill’ a petition purportedly written against the complainant.

The EFCC swung into action by asking the complainant to play along while setting booby-trap for the suspect. In the process, Idowu was asked to liaise with the complainant’s personal assistant, who was an EFCC operative undercover. While interacting with the operative undercover, the suspect was lured to Exclusive Stores, Abuja, where he was arrested on Monday, April 30.

Upon search in his Lexus EX 350 car, a lot of documents were recovered including letter of investigation activities on a fake EFCC letter-head paper with ‘Ref No: CTGI/6/vol.1’ and a letter of petition written to EFCC with ‘EFCC stamp received’ bearing Magu's forged signature.

The suspect will be charged to court as soon as investigation is concluded.

Why Senate Can’t Impeach Buhari – Senator Ahmed Lawan
User Avatar Forum: Retired Forums. Please Make Your Post Within The 3 Forums In General Discussion
Posted by: Edoman - 05-02-2018, 10:13 PM - No Replies

The Senate Majority Leader, Ahmed Lawan, says the issue of impeaching President Muhammadu Buhari has been laid to rest.

Lawan said the United States, US, President, Donald Trump’s confirmation that his country received $496m from Nigeria for fighter jets, has put the issue of impeaching Buhari to rest.

Speaking with Daily Trust, the Senator noted that impeaching the president holds no weight because “we didn’t lose money as a country.”

The lawmaker insisted that Buhari cannot be impeached for taking an “action to save Nigerians.”

According to Lawan, “I don’t know what the committee will report. I will rather guess but this committee is a representative of the senate and indeed the national assembly. So, since it has been confirmed that the money has been paid to the US treasury and President Trump has also confirmed it, I think this has laid the matter to rest.

“I’m not sure there was any serious motion for the impeachment of the President. If anybody did that, I’m sure the person misunderstood the entire process of parliamentary scrutiny

“My understanding of parliamentary scrutiny is to ensure that no public resources and money are lost. The release of $496m for the purchase of Super Tucano by the President has shown that no money was lost; more especially when the President of the US, Donald Trump, in discussion with the president said the American government is in receipt of the money. That goes further to confirm that we didn’t lose money as a country.

“So we really have not lost anything and I think this should give consolation to everybody because the fear will always be that someone took advantage and money was lost.

“How can we impeach the president for taking action to save Nigerians? It has been confirmed that the money has been paid to the US government.”

CAN Reacts To Trump’s Warning To Buhari On Killing Of Christians

The Christian Association of Nigeria has commended the President of the United States of America, Donald Trump for condemning killing of Christians in Nigeria.

During a joint press conference with President Muhammadu Buhari on Monday, Trump said the“killing of Christians in Nigeria was unacceptable” to the American government.

Reacting, CAN in a statement issued by its spokesman, Pastor Bayo Oladeji, noted that Trump told Buhari the right thing to do.

He, however, said if Buhari does not sit up and protect Christians, they will defend themselves.

Oladeji said, “We are happy that President Trump has told President Buhari the right thing to do. We hope and believe President Buhari would do the right thing and sit up. He has to sit up.

“Every time we tell them Christians are being killed, they don’t want to listen, but that is the truth. If the President cannot protect Christians, we have two options, we fight back.

“The law of the land permits self-defence. Secondly, come 2019, we vote him out. If he says there is nothing Christians can do, let him dare us.”

Buhari: I Read It In Newspapers That Boko Haram Still Controls Some Territories

President Muhammadu Buhari has acknowledged that insecurity is still a big problem for his administration.

Although he underscored the efforts of the Army in restricting Boko Haram to Sambisa Forest, he conceded that he had read in the papers that insurgents are still controlling some territories in Nigeria.

Speaking during an interview with Voice of Africa (VOA), he also expressed the difference between leading the country as a former military Head of State and now as a democratically elected leader.

He said: “I don’t get to listen to music but I find time to rest. When I was a general, I gave orders, but now I receive orders”
Commenting on the state of his health, he said his doctor always insist on good diet and good rest for him.

Asked what different plan he has for Nigeria if re-elected, he said: “We have not even finished what we are doing now. Insecurity is still a problem. The worst thing that Boko Haram is doing now is to get small girls, hypnotise and put explosive devices on them to go and detonate in mosques, churches, motor parks and markets and kill people.

“However, they are not able to take over any territory now, although even today, I read in some newspapers that Boko Haram are still holding territory. Well, they may still be somewhere in Sambisa Forest but the Nigerian Army has prevented them from coming out”.

Buhari, who is seeking a second term to the dismay of even some of his first-term supporters, also restated his resolve to punish more corrupt and criminal offenders if he wins in 2019

“By the time we set up these special courts and prosecute offenders, I am sure citizens will know that we are serious,” he said. “Those who embezzle public funds should be ready to face the consequences.”

Former Big Brother Naija housemate and finalist, Alex declares praise on her pal, Tobi Bakre as fans continue to ponder on the chemistry between both parties suspected to be dating.

Though she calls it friendship but from their public displays and utterances, fans see it more as romance.

Big brother Naija 2018 housemates are now all trying to co-exist and forget whatever happened in the house to remain in the house.

Despite their fights in the house, Ifu Ennada has made Cee-C her WCW today and poured encomium on her.

She shared a photo of Cee-C and wrote;

"My #WCW is @ceec_official for a number of reasons. We were not the closest of friends in the #Bbnaija house, but something about you stood out.

I remember the times you wanted to tell me your story and how we could make a movie out of it. You said you had always gotten everything you wanted thanks to your awesome dad, but had some struggles that shaped you in certain ways. You never told me these things, but I could relate to you in some ways because of my past... I like how you're out and doing big things. I like how you're very warm and receptive.

I like how you left all that happened in the house back there and you're becoming the true definition of a Mighty Strong Woman. So many things could break a woman, but you stand strong and show no weakness.

The other day you asked me if I still do my shutouts... Well, here's one - Shout outs to your father, he's your biggest cheer leader! He reminds me of my dad. Everyone should have a dad like yours.

You're a BeautIFU Soul CeeC and I wish you nothing but the best!

Cheers,
Ifu

President Buhari Says Special Court Coming Soon, Warns Looters Of Consequences
User Avatar Forum: Politics
Posted by: Edoman - 05-02-2018, 04:36 PM - No Replies

Quote:President Muhammadu Buhari has disclosed in an interview that his government would soon launch a special anti-corruption tribunal that would have the powers to seize cash and assets of Nigerians convicted of failing to explain how they came about their humongous wealth.

“They will be asked to prove how they acquired the difference, otherwise, everything will be taken away and they will be prosecuted,” Mr Buhari said in an interview with Voice of America as part of his recent visit to the United States.

The president said he will carefully select the judges for the tribunal and “give them time and necessary evidence such as the bank balance and properties owned by individuals in comparison to their wages.”

The president made the comments when asked about the status of his anti-corruption efforts and why no one in his administration has been arrested by the EFCC despite allegations of corruption.

The Minister of Transport, Rotimi Amaechi, was indicted by a judicial panel in Rivers States following claims he mismanaged public funds while he was governing the state from 2007 to 2015.

The Chief of Army Staff, Tukur Buratai, was also exposed as owning properties abroad worth obviously more than he would otherwise have been able to afford with his salaries.

The president said if his officials are arrested, they should face the consequences.

“Well, there is no any other measure other than to ensure that whoever is arrested is prosecuted for all to see,” Mr Buhari said.

He conceded the argument of his critics that his government had performed bellow expectation in ensuring timely arrest and prosecution of possible looters.

“We should have had a lot more arrests and prosecution by now; EFCC has done a lot; they will investigate and send accused persons to court and Nigerians would be adequately informed. Those who are saying we have not done enough in that regard are right,” he said.

Mr Buhari had muted the idea of setting up special courts to handle corruption cases since assuming office in 2015, but little progress had been made in this regard.

“By the time we set up these special courts and prosecute offenders, I am sure citizens will know that we are serious,” he said. “Those who embezzle public funds should be ready to face the consequences.”

“What we don’t want is to take people to places where the judges may not be able to convict them appropriately,” he added.

Considering that the country has less than 10 months before the next general elections, Mr Buhari’s special courts may not come on stream until his second term, should he get it.

If You Touch Rivers, Nigeria Will Finish" – Wike
User Avatar Forum: Politics
Posted by: Edoman - 05-02-2018, 03:20 PM - No Replies

http://www.titopeblog.com/2018/05/if-you...inish.html

The Governor of Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, has warned the President Muhammadu Buhari-led government to shelve any plan of going after him for any reason.

Wike said any attempt to touch him will “finish Nigeria.”

The governor further stated that the Federal Government must apologise to the State and seek God’s forgiveness, or it will have no peace.

The Governor spoke yesterday while addressing workers during the Workers’ Day celebration, at the General Yakubu Gowon Stadium, Elekahia, Port, Harcourt.

Wike noted that the country was hunted and bedevilled by killings, because the Federal Government politicised security crisis in Rivers because it is not an All Progressives Congress APC state.

He said, “Don’t just see me as governor of Rivers state; see me as a soldier of God. For those, who are planning against me in Abuja, I say, you will fail. The day you touch Rivers, you finish Nigeria.

“When they tried to compromise security, I told them if Rivers state has a problem and they don’t want to look into it, one day Nigeria will burn. And I told them until they (FG) come and seek forgiveness and tell God ‘we are sorry for what we did to Rivers state’, they will never see peace.

“I asked them to come to our aid and they said it is People’s Democratic Party (PDP) state”.

He added, “Anything you want me to do in the interest of the state, I will do. But, when you introduce politics, I will come out as a politician.

“One thing you must not do to a politician who does not see, hear or talk; don’t bring politics, when you are demanding something.

“Nobody will deny workers their legitimate rights. I will never be in support of that. But, you are doing something wrong by threatening me with strike; that is not democracy.

“The essence of labour is not only to demand rights, you should, also, demand free and fair election. How many times has Labour talked against what is happening in the state? How many times have you condemned the federal government for changing police commissioners from left to centre.

“How many times have you cautioned those insulting Independent National Electoral Commission officials? Labour is not only for increment in wages; it is not only about building secretariat for you, buy buses or generator. Labour is part of talking of survival of democracy in the country.

“During the previous administration, when former president Goodluck Jonathan wanted to remove subsidy from fuel, Labour went on strike. Today, they have removed subsidy Labour failed.

“We all witness what is happening in the country today. Look at the killings. If you talk about the increment of wages and you don’t have children, brothers, sisters, mothers and fathers, then, what is the increment of wages and people are dying everyday? Nobody says anything.

“Talk about how Nigeria will move forward and not only increment. It will come and nobody will stop it.”

World Bank: Despite exit from recession, Nigeria’s poverty increased in 2017

World Bank: Despite exit from recession, Nigeria’s poverty increased in 2017
[Image: World-Bank-653x365.jpg]
The World Bank says unemployment and poverty rates increased in Nigeria despite an exit from recession in 2017.
The Bretton Wood institution made these remarks in a report released on Monday.
The report titled ‘Nigeria Bi-annual Economic Update: Fragile Recovery’ read: “The decline in the non-oil, non-agriculture sector, however, continued, as aggregate demand remained weak and private sector credit low.
“The rates of unemployment and underemployment increased in 2017 and poverty is estimated to have increased slightly. Gross Domestic Product growth in 2018 is expected to hover just over two percent, largely oil sector-driven.
“Nigeria has a big home market, which is constrained by limited connective infrastructure, thereby reducing producers and firms’ ability to reach wider markets.”
The World Bank suggested that policymakers at federal and state level identify interventions that are best suited to realise development potential of sub-national regions and integrate domestic markets.
“Policymakers may want to focus on investments that reinforce clusters and economies of scale and optimise the connectivity between rural areas and the major urban markets,” the World Bank said.
“Policymakers must also address structural and land management issues in major urban nodes and along major growth corridors to remove or alleviate barriers that undermine the growth potential.”
In March, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) said the country needed urgent and coherent policies because Nigerians were getting poorer.

Arisekola Ademeso Owoseni 'Dr. Quash' In N4M HIV Scam (Photos)

Posted by: Edoman - 05-02-2018, 02:49 PM - No Replies

The alleged ringleader of fraudsters syndicate involved in the N4 million HIV scam, Arisekola Ademeso Owoseni (Dr. Quash) has denied collecting up to that amount from their victim. Adekola, who was said to be the CEO of MCD Filmz and Record Store in Ondo, confessed to the crime in a conversation before he absconded as a manhunt has been launched for him.

Recall the victim had earlier explained how he fell into their hand. He said he received a mobile phone line recharge pin from an unfamiliar phone number with a short note that reads “sell this recharge card for your transport fare home…” The event next to this was a call from the same line, telling him the SMS was sent to him in error and begging him to send it back to them.

Consequent upon the return of the SMS, he received another call from the line appreciating him for the good gesture. At the peak of their conversation, the old man on phone did as though he saw a vision concerning him. “He told me I am living with a deadly disease, but I said no. But when he convinced me further, I affirmed his word”, Wasiu said.

The victim, from whom a few other members of his family have also contracted the disease, deeply fell into them before discovering himself.

Nigeria’s Unemployment, Poverty Rates Increased In 2017 – World Bank
User Avatar Forum: Politics
Posted by: Edoman - 05-02-2018, 02:45 PM - No Replies

Quote:Everest Amaefule, Abuja

Nigeria ’ s unemployment and underemployment rates increased in 2017 , the World Bank has said .

A statement issued by the World Bank in Abuja on Monday night showed that this was indicated in its report , ‘ Nigeria Bi- annual Economic Update’ .

According to the report , Nigeria emerged from recession in 2017 , but poverty in the country increased slightly .

Titled : ‘ Connecting to Compete ’ , the report stated that Nigeria ’ s Gross Domestic Product growth reached 0 . 8 per cent , driven by an expansion in oil output and continued steady growth in agriculture.

The World Bank said , “The decline in the non - oil, non -agriculture sector , however , continued , as aggregate demand remained weak and private sector credit low .

“The rates of unemployment and underemployment increased in 2017 and poverty is estimated to have increased slightly . Gross Domestic Product growth in 2018 is expected to hover just over two per cent , largely oil sector -driven.

“ Nigeria has a big home market , which is constrained by limited connective infrastructure, thereby reducing producers and firms ’ ability to reach wider markets . ”

It added , “This lack of connectivity dampens economic collaboration and cooperation among the country’ s regions , limiting market integration and reducing producers and firms ’ ability to reach wider markets .

“ Spatial fragmentation and limited connections also hurt welfare and prospects for poverty reduction . ”

The Global Lead , Territorial Development , World Bank, Somik Lall, said that spatial integration and sub - national specialisation were key to creating a nationally -integrated market for goods and services as well as attracting much- needed private investments, which in turn could enhance productivity through scale and specialisation .

According to the World Bank, Nigeria will benefit from policies to promote spatial integration and sub - national specialisation , which will stimulate diversified and long -term growth .

This can be achieved through market specialisation and differentiated positioning strategies for industrial clusters across the country , according to the report.

The bank said the key challenge for policymakers at the federal and state levels was to identify interventions (policy , regulatory, institutional and investment , etc. ) that were best suited to realise development potential of sub national regions and integrate domestic markets .

For Nigeria to tap its spatial drivers of development , policymakers may want to focus on investments that reinforce clusters and economies of scale and optimise the connectivity between rural areas and the major urban markets , the bank said .

It added that policymakers must also address structural and land management issues in major urban nodes and along major growth corridors to remove or alleviate barriers that undermine the growth potential .

Buhari: More People Killed In Zamfara Than Benue, Taraba Put Together
User Avatar Forum: Retired Forums. Please Make Your Post Within The 3 Forums In General Discussion
Posted by: Edoman - 05-02-2018, 02:37 PM - Replies (1)

Quote:President Muhammadu Buhari has repeated a controversial statement he made about recorded deaths in Nigeria’s ongoing violence linked to suspected herdsmen.

During a condolence visit to Taraba State on March 5, the president told his audience in Jalingo, the state capital, that more people were killed in Zamfara than Taraba and Benue states.

The comments generated nationwide uproar, with many saying that not only was the president factually incorrect, but also fuelling serious suspicion that could be perceived from his seemingly partisan comments.

The opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) also came down heavily on the president for the remarks, describing it as divisive and ill-thought.

Mr Buhari has not clarified his comments since then, and he doubled down when he commented about it again during his recent trip to the United States.

Asked by the Voice of Nigeria what other agreement he sealed with President Donald Trump during their bilateral talks, Mr Buhari responded as follows:

“Not agreements, just discussions. The first one is the information being given to them that Christians are being killed in Nigeria; but what happened in the Church also happened in the South-east and the North and they just say it is herdsmen that are killing them.

“Those making these allegations against the herdsmen know that herdsmen, as we know them only carry sticks, going about with guns is a new thing and those making the allegations know that conflict between farmers and herders has a long history even before we were born.

“Therefore, it is wrong to say the conflict is between Fulani and Tiv or other tribes, like in Taraba. ‘What of Zamfara, where more people were killed than in Taraba and Benue put together’?

“People need to understand that it is mischief that makes people to bring in religion or ethnicity,” the president said.

States affected by the ongoing killings by suspected herdsmen have largely handled their crises individually without necessarily highlighting who suffered more cassualties, but the president’s statement could now be seen as a challenge for some states to frequently publish statistics recorded in the unabated carnage.

The president holds that the killings are perpetrated by possibly imported mercenaries with similarly imported arms from Libya and other crises-plagued countries across the Sahel.

A report released by the Central Bank of Nigeria on Monday has shown that 12 of the 15 sub-sectors of the manufacturing sector recorded a growth in April.
According to the report, which is called the Purchasing Mangers’ Index for April 2018, the index grew at a faster rate than its March growth.
The sub-sectors that recorded growth are: Petroleum and coal products, electrical equipment, appliances and components, printing and related support activities, textile apparel leather and footwear, fabricated metal products, chemical and pharmaceutical products, food, beverage and tobacco products, paper products, furniture and related products, plastics and rubber products, and transportation equipment.
The cement sub-sector did not report any change, while the non-metallic minerals and primary metal sub-sectors declined in the review month.
The production level index for the sector grew to 58.6 points, although slower than its March growth rate.
“At 55.8 points, new orders index grew for the 13th consecutive month, indicating increase in new orders in April 2018,” the report read.
“Seven sub-sectors reported growth, four remained unchanged while four contracted in the review month.
“The manufacturing supplier delivery time index stood at 57.4 points in April 2018, indicating faster supplier delivery time for the eleventh consecutive month.
“Eleven sub-sectors recorded improved suppliers’ delivery time, three remained unchanged while one sub-sector recorded delayed delivery time.”
PMI is an indicator of the health of the manufacturing sector. It considers five variables: new orders, inventory levels, production, supplier deliveries and the employment environment.

ICYMI: 31m Nigerians now have BVN, says CBN
[Image: BVN-653x365.jpg]
The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has captured no fewer than 31 million account customers in its bank verification number (BVN) project aimed at ensuring unique identifier in the Nigerian banking industry.
Dipo Fatokun, CBN director, banking and payment system, disclosed this in a paper titled ‘Nigeria’s progress towards the creation of a robust, trusted and inclusive financial services environment’ delivered at the annual meeting of the ID4Africa movement on in Abuja.
Fatokun said the CBN had also linked a total of 43,959,282 banks accounts in the BVN project.
“To address the absence of a unique identifier in the Nigerian banking industry and to facilitate the creation of inclusive financial services environment,” he said.
“The CBN in collaboration with the Bankers’ Committee launched the BVN Project on Feb. 14, 2014, with biometric solution, as a unique identifier for all bank customers.
“The objectives includes the following: increase access, convenience, service levels across the industry; enable greater financial inclusion and integration of financial services into the economy, with its attendant positive impact on economic development.”
Fatokun said the BVN was also targeted at promoting safe and sound financial system in the country.
He said the BVN has helped in the provision of unique identity for customers that impact other areas such as credit check, and non-repudiation of transactions.
According to him, the BVN has also helped to increase deterrent controls on financial transactions and reduce or mitigate fraud risk and identity theft.
“Most importantly, it has created avenues for people who cannot write regular signature to make financial transactions, thus, facilitating financial inclusion,” he said.
“As at December 2017, the implementation of the BVN Project recorded 31,426,091 registered BVNs and 43,959,282- accounts linked with BVN.”
Fatokun explained that the BVN was part of the federal government’s strategy towards accelerating financial inclusion in the country.
“Nigeria launched its National Financial Inclusion Strategy in October 2012 with the goal of reducing the percentage adult Nigerians that are excluded from financial services from 46.3 percent in 2010 to 20 percent by 2020,” he said.
Fatokun said a number of factors were identified as barriers to financial inclusion among Nigerians.
“The identified barriers to financial inclusion include lack of income, long distance to access points, lack of knowledge about financial services, high cost of services and cumbersome requirements for account opening,” he said.
“In order to achieve the set target, and to address the aforementioned barriers, different measures and initiatives were put in place by the CBN.
“To address the cumbersome documentation requirement for account opening, the CBN introduced the Three-tiered Know-Your-Customer (T-KYC) in 2013, which was modified in July 2016.
“The three-tiered KYC guideline allows individuals who may not meet the formal identification requirements and in banks to operate and enjoy banking services within defined thresholds.
“The simplification consists of lowering the account opening requirements and less-paper documentation in exchange for lower threshold.
“The CBN T-KYC is one of the initiatives for improving financial inclusion in Nigeria to facilitate easy access to a broad range of formal financial services.”
