Over 100 people in three local government areas of Plateau State were killed by suspected Fulani herdsmen on Sunday. According to the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Associate (MACBAN), the genesis of the crisis has been rampant attacks and rustling of their cows by Berom youths in Barkin Ladi Local government area.

A journalist, Lawunna Timothy Yilwada, who interviewed victims of the attacks, narrated what happened. Read below;

We were interviewing injured victims of these attacks, and what they told us turned my stomach. Tears flowed from my heart, as I see kids with wounds bored with bullets, I saw a six-month old baby girl wounded by sparks of gunshots when her mum was running with her. I saw many unconscious children who will wake up as orphans, first time in my life I saw a wound bore by bullets.

Funny enough the boys we met there told us how they lived with these herdsmen, they lived peacefully until the attack, even on the day of the attack they played football and jolly together but Lo in the evening they become terrorists and bandits, because they don't just kill them, they also "steal" their properties.

In some communities it's quiet different, the herders who stay there don't attack but the show where and whom attack.

Also in some communities the Muslims there gave shelter to people who escaped and lied to the hired mercenaries in defense of the indegenes whom the hid in the mosque.

You see this issue is made up of many factors and understanding them will aid us to know what to do, what MYETTI ALLAH is saying is a big fat lie.

what the herders are doing is pure bandits activities and the Uthman Dan fodio course, history has and history will have it that they will fail.

"We need to talk" he texted his wife.
She wondered what was wrong, men rarely use that "We need to talk" line.
"Is everything alright?" she asked.
"Let's talk when we get home" he texted back.
"You're scaring me" she replied.

She called his phone, he didn't pick up.
She got home after work, anxious.
She stretched her hand to open the door, the door opened before her. Her husband opened the door.

He took her handbad and placed it on the seat.

He gently placed her heels next to the door.
He removed her coat, placed it on the sofa, he unbuttoned her blouse.
"The kids!?" she said.

He took her hand and led her to the sofa.
He made her recline on the sofa.
He placed a towel that stood at the table on his lap, placed her feet on his lap, took a warm towel that was in a basin next to the sofa and wiped her feet.
She looked at him giggling covering her face.

She felt those three words go through her entire body.

"You said we need to talk?" she asked.
"Yes, tell me how your day has been, how is your heart, how are you?" he asked.
"You mean there is nothing wrong?" she asked.
"No, there is everything right. You are the right woman for me. I just wanted to talk with my wife. I miss you, I really miss you. Even though we sleep on the same bed, it feels like we don't really talk" said he.
A message came on her phone that she was holding, a Facebook message alert.
He took her phone and threw it on the next sofa.
He said, "Today my love, no Facebook, no TV, no children, no cooking"
"No cooking?" she asked.
"Yes, I ordered take away. It's in the kitchen" he answered.
"Wow! You had this all figured out" said she.
"Darling, I strategize at work to get profits, surely, I can strategize to please my wife" he said.
She relaxed on the sofa.
"Your hairline is receding" she said.
He looked at her.
"You mean married life has been so busy I haven't had time to look at your face in such a long time; I mean really look at your face. You are quite a handsome man" said she.
"You know how to pick them huh? You got taste in men" he teased her.
She paused and looked at the man she loves as he rubbed her feet.
She told him how her day has been, they shared thoughts, they laughed, they reminisced, she opened up about a painful part in her life and teared up, he opened up about his frustrations as a man... they prayed. Some things about your spouse you will never know until you two create ample time to talk.
He served her dinner, they ate remembering their dating season, there was a spark in their eyes, they went to shower together, washing each other's body, he saw the spot where she burnt her skin while cooking three weeks ago and kissed that spot.
They turned off the music and the lights, they got to bed and had an intimate pillow talk. There they told each other how much they love each other. They cuddled, their toes danced together. He talked to her until she fell asleep. He kissed her forehead, watched her sleep then he rested too. No making love because all he had done was not some sweet acts to get sex but because he wanted to connect with her much deeper. So many women feel that a man only puts his best effort when he wants sex.
In the morning, there was a glow about her. She looked like a loved up woman. He had missed watering her heart with love, "I need to do this more" he thought to himself.

A lady identified as Chinyere Odum has been arrested for dousing her 14 years old son, Prince, with kerosene and setting him ablaze in Amuzukwu Ibeku, Abia State.

It was gathered that she took the extreme action because the boy stole a neighbor’s MP3 player. She was said to have tied Prince up before settling him on fire. The boy is currently on admission at the Federal Medical Centre, Umuahia.

Chinyere, who has a history of beating the victim with firewood, was subsequently apprehended and handed over to the police. However, in a twist of events, Prince pleaded that his mom should be freed, as he was at fault for stealing.

PRESIDENT Muhammadu Buhari on Monday observed that those clamouring for the restructuring of the country do so for selfish motives but expressed the hope that the diverse agenda can be accommodated by the constitution.

He made the observation while receiving some traditional rulers under Urhobo Progressive Union (UPU) and members of the All Progressive Congress (APC) from Urhobo land at the presidential villa, Abuja on Monday.

He was responding to the call by the group to consider the call for restructuring.

The president said: “You mentioned something which is typical these days, the cause of restructuring Nigeria. For every group asking for restructuring has got their own agenda and I hope it can be accommodated by the constitution.

“I assure you that you are not forgotten and I am pleased you appreciate the appointments by this administration of some citizens of your kingdoms.

Responding to a request for the presidency to also address oil spillage in the region, Buhari blamed the people of the area for what he said was their contribution to the degradation of the region through sabotage.

He, therefore, urged them to give the present administration the chance just as, according to him, gave the previous governments the chance.

Buhari said: “I plead with you leaders of these communities that your resources have been sustaining this country throughout these years for restraint of control so that the cooperation you gave to the previous administrations will be extended to this administration so that the country can realize the resources which are mainly under your seat.


“Some of your citizens there are responsible and they hurt, more of your people that have access to employment, either lack of education, you know as much as I do that it is the people that suffer from oil pollution, like those engaged in fishing.

“If the water is polluted, it is the majority of the people that will suffer.

“Those making noise in the media because they somehow have access and because they are outside the country, but those of us who are stuck here we are left to convince the people to show respect.”

The President General of UPU had also observed that part of the things that will guarantee a second tenure for Buhari is to appoint an Urhobo son or daughter as substantive Minister in the current administration.

Taiga requested the president to look into issues bedevilling the region, especially the resuscitation of Sapele port, boundary crisis between the Urhobos and Edo communities, federal presence like the establishment of gas plants, adequate funding of Federal University of Petroleum Resources and neglect by oil companies who daily exploit the land without commensurate compensation.

He said: “We wish to commend the initiative by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to give serious thought to restructuring our country and going as far as setting up a committee under a serving governor to take a critical look at it and make recommendations on the way forward.

“We humbly request Mr. President to give kind consideration to appointing an Urhobo son or daughter as a Minister in this administration. We will be grateful if this request is kindly granted.

“The Sapele port which was once a bustling economic hub in the old Midwestern region has unfortunately gone comatose for a long time. It is presently used as a naval facility with only a small part of it serving the Navy’s needs.

“We, therefore, request the federal government to reactivate and make the port functional. This will help to decongest the Lagos ports and boost the economy of Delta and neighbouring states.”

Meanwhile, security operatives in presidential villa prevented Delta APC leader, Olorogun Ortega Emerhor who organized the Urhobo delegation’s visit to the president, from entering the venue.

His prevention from attending the meeting with the president may not be unconnected with the violence that broke out during the APC national convention at Eagle Square, Abuja on Saturday.

His loyalists and other Delta delegates loyal to the camp of Chief Great Ogboru and Senator Ovie Omo-Agege disrupted the president’s address when they engaged in a free for all fight.

The pan-Yoruba socio-political organisation, Afenifere, has described as tissues of lies a statement made by Prince Tony Momoh, former Minister of Information, that Yoruba leaders jettisoned the agenda of the region at the 2005 constitutional conference after pressures from former President Olusegun Obasanjo.

Momoh, a national leader of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), had – in an interview with DAILY INDEPENDENT – said he once described Yoruba leaders as a “disgrace to those who believe in them” for dumping the Yoruba agenda at the conference.

Speaking with DAILY INDEPENDENT, Yinka Odumakin, National Publicity Secretary of the organisation, challenged Momoh to name the Yoruba leaders who betrayed the cause of the Yoruba nation.

Shedding light on what transpired at the conference, the Afenifere spokesman said: “The President of Ohanaeze, Chief John Nwodo, said to Chief Bisi Akande at the 10th memorial of Senator Abraham Adesanya that if elders like him can no longer speak the truth because of APC card, Nigeria is in deep trouble.

“In like manner, I will say if an elder statesman and veteran journalist whose words people should swear with like Prince Momoh begins to deal in low-quality rumours and fake lies, Project Nigeria is doomed.

“We were all in this country in 2005 when the political conference took place.

“All delegates to that conference were handpicked by the government.

“The leaders of the regions were not allowed to pick their delegates as governors did the picking.

“Leaders of Yoruba tried to influence the governors as PDP controlled five states then, except Lagos.

“We had a meeting with the PDP governors in Ladoja’s office in Ibadan. Gen Alani Akinrinade, Senator Olabiyi Durojaiye, and some of us were there.

“The governors agreed to set up a Technical Committee headed by Chief Richard Akinjide, myself, Mr. Jimi Agbaje, Mr. Remi Olatubora, and about 10 others.

“We met for three days at the University of Ibadan and got our report ready, mirroring the agreed positions of Yoruba for the conference.

“We went back to the governors in Ibadan and met a totally hostile bunch who rejected all key ingredients of Yoruba agenda and they would not consider anybody who would not toe their line as a delegate.

“We left them realising they were not going to follow the Yoruba agenda.

“Otunba Gbenga Daniel offered to keep the Technical Committee to keep the pressure on delegates in Abuja.

“But those of us who were independent of the governors declined further participation as our chairman had already openly disowned our report and the governors were going to play their game.

“Leaders of Yoruba retreated and empowered a committee to launch the Yoruba agenda rejected by the governors.

“Our Committee, headed by Ambassador Olu Otunla, launched the document at Okokan Stadium with Yoruba leaders in attendance to let the world know our stand.

“Aside from the PDP governors who frustrated the agenda, Afenifere also accused Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, who was the only governor then in the opposition, of moving against the agenda by producing a Lagos agenda.

“The Lagos State which was not under PDP which should have at least been a fall back was not there as Tinubu also rejected all main planks of Yoruba agenda and produced a Lagos agenda.

“Yoruba participation at the conference was therefore governmental, and I challenge our revisionist Prince to name those Yoruba leaders who betrayed an agenda that did not get to Abuja.”

On the claim by Momoh that there was no way President Buhari could have called for the release of the late MKO Abiola, the acclaimed winner of the June 12 presidential election during his detention under Abacha, Odumakin said the former national chairman of the defunct Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) should be in hiding now for saying Nigerians should stone APC leaders if they fail to perform.

“You remember Prince Momoh was the Information Minister when Dele Giwa was parcel-bombed in 1986?

“He promised the country there would be a judicial probe of the incident. He was to later say such a probe would serve no purpose.

Fayemi whole polled a total of 941 votes at the primary which held on May 12, defeated Oni, his closest rival by a margin of over 460 votes.

In the court documents seen by TheCable, Oni asked the court to determine if Fayemi’s action did not violate the Nigerian constitution and the guidelines of the ruling party primary.

The suit was filed on his behalf by Gani Faniyi, his counsel.

Activities on the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) on Monday reversed the six-consecutive days downward movement with important market indices appreciating by 0.34 per cent.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the All-Share Index rebounded by 129.59 points or 0.34 per cent to close at 37,992.12, against the 37,862.53 recorded on Friday.

Similarly, the market capitalisation increased by N47 billion or 0.34 per cent to close at N13.762 trillion, compared with N13.715 trillion achieved on Friday.

The market momentum was lifted by Dangote Cement which led the gainers’ table with N5, to close at N230 per share.

Cement Company of Northern Nigeria followed with a gain of N1.20 to close at N25.95, while Guaranty Trust Bank added 35k to close at N41.05 per share.

Stanbic IBTC improved by 25k to close at N49, while Unilever also appreciated by 25k to close at N51 per share.

Conversely, Seplat topped the losers’ chart for the day, dropping by N34.20 to close at N650.80 per share.

Nestle trailed with a loss of N5 to close at N1, 490 while CAP dipped N1.80 to close at N35 per share.

Lafarge Africa was down by 90k to close at N38.10, while Guinness depreciated by 50k to close at N97 per share.

Also, the market volume and value appreciated by 83.83 per cent and 139.16 per cent, respectively.

Specifically, investors bought and sold 307.41 million shares valued at N3.42 billion, transacted in 3,822 deals.

This was in contrast with a turnover of 167.23 million shares worth N1.43 billion traded in 3,847 deals on Friday.

United Bank for Africa dominated trading activities, accounting for 43.71 million shares valued at N459.24 million.

Honey Well Flour came second with an account of 16.89 million shares valued at N34.23 million, while Zenith International Bank traded 16.19 million shares worth N418.66 million.

FBN Holdings sold 12.56 million shares valued at N133.72 million, while Sterling Bank exchanged 11.29 million shares worth N15.39 million.

GROWING AND PROSPERING BY THE WORD.


Now I say, That the heir, as long as he is a child, differeth nothing from a servant, though he be lord of all; But is under tutors and governors until the time appointed of the father (Galatians 4:1-2).

As a child of God, you must feed your spirit with the Word, for that’s the only way to grow spiritually. You must have a consistent and instinctive desire for God’s Word. Peter says, “As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word that ye may grow thereby” (1 Peter 2:2). The life in you is the life of the Word, and can only be sustained by the Word.

The Word has the unique characteristic and ability to grow mightily and prevail, irrespective of the situation or condition (Acts19:20).
So when you consciously imbibe the Word for your health, finances, business, and other areas of your life, there’ll be progress against all odds.

Acts 20:32 says the Word is able to build you up, and deliver your inheritance into your hands. But recall what we read in our opening text: “…the heir, as long as he is a child, differeth nothing from a servant, though he be lord of all; But is under tutors and governors until the time appointed of the father.” An heir is someone with an inheritance. But as long as that heir is a child (Greek: “nepios”), he’s not different from a servant.

The Bible says as long as an heir is a “nepios,” he can’t enjoy his inheritance. A “nepios” is someone who’s unable to talk right or communicate wisely. Someone can be forty years in Christianity and still be a “nepios”; he has an awesome inheritance; all the blessings of God belong to him, yet he’s suffering through life. It reminds of the Spirit’s lamentation in Hosea 4:6: “My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge….”

The life God has given us in Christ is that of great glory and excellence, where you prosper in all things, howbeit by His Word.

PRAYER

Dear heavenly Father, I thank you for the efficacy of your Word in my life. Your Word is building me up into a mature man in Christ, causing me to deal wisely in all my affairs, and to continually make progress from glory to glory, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.

An Igbosere High Court in Lagos on Monday remanded a 48-year-old female lawyer, Udeme Otike-Odibi, at Kirikiri prison for killing her 52-year-old husband, Symphorosa Otike-Odibi, and also chopping off his joystick.
Udeme, 47, was arraigned by the Lagos State Government on a two-count charge of murder and misconduct with regard to a corpse.

She however pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The Lagos State Prosecutor, Mr Sunmonu Babatunde, had told the court that the accused committed the alleged offences on May 3, at Diamond Estate, Sangotedo, Lekki, Lagos.

He said that the accused stabbed her husband and mutilated his corpse by cutting his genitals.

The offences contravened Sections 165 (b) and 223 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

Section 165 (b) provides five-year imprisonment while Section 223 is punishable by death.

Justice Adedayo Akintoye, however remanded the accused in prison and adjourned the case until Oct. 8 and 9 for hearing.

The accused first appeared before a Yaba Magistrates’ Court and was remanded in prison pending the Directorate of Public Prosecutions legal advice.

Symphorosa Otike- Odibi, the murdered lawyer, from Delta State, was the second person killed by a female lawyer.

The first lawyer to commit the crime was Mrs. Yewande Oyediran, working with the Oyo State Ministry of Justice.

Yewande stabbed her husband, Lowo Oyediran Ajanaku, 38, to death in their Akobo Estate home in Ibadan, Oyo State home on February 2, 2016, after she found out that he fathered a child through another woman.

here was chaos at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos, on Monday as the new immigration policy of $90 caught many foreigners arriving the country unawares.

The new policy imposes an additional $90 on foreigners arriving the country as Biometric Visa-On-Arrival charge, apart from the visa fees they had already paid in their respective countries before embarking on the journey to Nigeria.

The new policy was supposed to have taken effect on June 11, 2018, but was shifted by another two weeks for unknown reasons.

Foreigners were also compelled to pay additional $20 as service charge to the Federal Government through the concessionaire that the service was concessioned to.

At the airport, many travellers who were unaware of the new policy were stranded and were not allowed to pass through the immigration counters until they had paid the $90.

Some of them later used their credit cards for the payment of the two sums, while others had to pay the money through their agents or companies in Nigeria.

For instance, South Africans paid the sum of $58 as visa fee for Nigeria in their country, but were still compelled to pay the sum of $90 as biometrics and additional $20 for processing on arrival at Lagos Airport.

The new policy of $90 of biometric did not exempt the countries that Nigeria already has gratis with, as their citizens were equally compelled to pay the sum. These are counties where citizens don’t pay for visa before visiting Nigeria because of the reciprocity agreement between the two countries.

Some of the countries with gratis with Nigeria include Mauritius, Barbados, Dominica, Fiji Island and Haiti.

There was a huge complaint from many of the travellers or their representatives in Nigeria who said they were not informed of the new policy, as there was no enlightenment campaign by the service.

When SaharaReporters visited one of the arriving lounges at Lagos Airport, it was observed that when Emirates Airlines arrived the country from Diubai, immigration officials at the terminal were helpless as the service had been concessioned to a concessionaire.

An immigration source told our correspondent that the collection of the sum on visa-on-arrival was taken away from immigration and handed over to a private firm about a year ago in the name of Ease-of-Doing-Business policy of the Federal Government, which came on stream last June.

The source said: “This is a real fraud by this concessionaire. How can you impose additional $90 as biometrics on foreigners coming into the country? Most of these foreigners have already secured their visas before coming here and you still impose additional charges on them. Apart from this $90, they still pay another $20 as processes. What are they processing?

“This so called Ease-of-Doing-Business is being hijacked and it’s turning to hardship on the people. The biometric is unnecessary as this had already been done with their finger prints on issuance of international passports in their respective countries. Or is Nigeria saying they don’t trust the systems in some of these countries?

“As it is now, immigration officials at all entry points are just observers in the entire process while the concessionaires collect the sum and put it into a dedicated account. Some of the travellers especially from South Africa paid $58 as visa fee in their country and were still compelled to pay the sum of $90 as biometrics and additional $20 for processing on arrival in Lagos."

Besides, a source close to immigration confided in our correspondent that the scarcity of Nigerian international passport in recent times s because the passport is now being produced in Malaysia, rather than the country as was the practice in the past.

According to the source, the new system began the moment the printing of the international passport was taken away from immigration and concessioned to a private firm.

“I have been in many places including (Ministry of) Petroleum. I would have gone to jail if I had taken an oil well. For integrity and honesty, I have no regrets. By this, I have contributed to my social safety. I won’t go to jail.”

A man narrated how he caught a gunman during an armed robbery operation in Lagos. According to reports, the man identified as Okoro Isaac, was going to church on Sunday 17th June, 2018 in the company of his brother. They were reportedly walking along the Kirikiri Bridge heading towards Berger Motors around 5:40am so as to get a bus heading to Ijesha when they were accosted by three armed robbers.

They surrounded them and tried to rob them of their belongings. One of the armed robbers who was wielding a gun became infuriated during the operation and pointed the gun on him with the aim of shooting at him.

He made good his threat by shooting the gun, but the gun didn't respond. 

According to reports, when the robbers saw their gun wasn't responding, they took to their heels.

The man and his brother chased after them from the bridge all the way to Beach land and were able to capture the one wielding the gun. They caught him and dispossessed him of his weapon.

The brothers marched down to a nearby Police station ( The Beach Land Police Station) where they handed the thief and the Gun over to the Police men there. The Police men were clearly shocked and decide to check if the gun was actually functioning. At this time, the D.P.O's attention had been drawn to the case. The Police shot the gun in the air and it responded showing that it was filled with live ammunition.

Upon checking the gun, they also discovered five more bullets loaded in the gun. The D.P.O being amazed asked our brothers if their father had given them something (diabolic powers) with which they used to defeat such armed robbers.

The armed robber has been charged to court and is currently awaiting trial.

An Ikeja high court heard on Monday how one Mohammed Gobir and his company Mondial Defence Systems Limited stole N 227 million from the Kwara State government.

Mohammed Gobir, 55, and an indigine of Kwara state, is facing a five count charge bordering on stealing, forgery and dishonestly converting monies entrusted to him for the purchase of three units of Armoured Personnel Carriers (APC) by the Kwara State government preferred against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission ( EFCC) before Justice Josephine Oyefeso.

Gobir however pleaded not guilty to the charge.

Led in evidence by the prosecution counsel, Zainab Ettuh, a prosecution witness, Funmilola Adejulu told the court how a petition dated October 21, 2015 was received by the Commission from one William Ezenwa.

Adejulu, who works as an operative with the EFCC is the third prosecution witness in the ongoing trial.

The witness said the petitioner alleged that the defendant, Mohammed Gobir under false pretense obtained the sum of 45796.61USD from him under false pretense.

She further told the court that the petitioner who is a country manager of T.A.G4 Armour Nigeria limited, a sister company to The Armour Group based in USA, alleged that his company entered into an agreement to procure three units of Armour Personnel Carriers (APC) for Oyo State government and how he paid the sum of 300USD and refused to pay an outstanding of 146.964USD.

“The petitioner also alleged that while the Oyo State transaction was ongoing, the defendant informed him to produce another five APC for Kwara state government which he later reduced to three.

“We sent the identification number of the three vehicles he requested for, so as to enable him to process the end users certificate but the defendant did not pay for the three APC, neither did he pay for the balance of the Oyo State government APC.

Adejulu further told the court that the complaint was invited to come and adopt his petition and he honoured the invitation.

“We wrote to Kwara State Government, Wema Bank, RT Capital Management and the National security Adviser and they all responded.

“The Kwara state government responded to the letter dated February 25, 2016. In the letter, Kwara Government stated that the letter of contract forwarded to them was different from the ones they have in their file which was the one they gave to the defendant. They also confirmed that the dates were tampered with.

“Their letter also confirmed that they awarded a contract to the defendant to supply three units of Armour Personnel Carriers and the sum of two hundred and seventy-seven million was fully paid to him between October 2912-July 2013.

The witness further told the court that Kwara state government confirmed that Gobir did not deliver the APC and several demands for him to deliver the three units APC yielded no response from him.

“Kwara state government also confirmed that they contacted the Ministry of Justice to help them get the defendant to supply the APC or return the fund.

The prosecution witness also told the court that the defendant was invited by the commission and he volunteered a statement to her and a another team member identified as Danladi.

Adejulu said when Gobir was confronted with the petition, he responded in writing.

“He admitted that Kwara government gave him a contract and that the money was fully paid. He also mentioned that he bought the three vehicles as well as the end users certificate, while he also admitted that the vehicles were not delivered yet.

“He however mentioned in his statement that he did not engage the Armour Group to produce the three APC and that the production was being handled by a Dubai company, though he could not produce any document relating to the Dubai Company and the said APC” she said.

According to Adejulu, the commission also contacted a director in Kwara State government, one Alhaji Umar Kayode Sidiq, who reported to the commission.

“Sidiq confirmed that Kwara state government awarded the contract to Gobir at the sum of two hundred and seventy-even million naira to him and he was fully paid
“She said the director told the commission that the defendant did not deliver the APC and he was only responding via phone that he was working on it.

“The Commission also got a response from Wema bank that the said amount was received from Kwara state government and his bank statements shows that the defendant moved funds at different times to different Bureau’re changes which includes; Mua BDC, Binbahun BDC, CP Express limited and RT Capital management.

“The General Manager of RT management, Juli Ola also responded to our letter.

Juli said they received the fund from the defendant and upon his instruction, the monies were converted to dollars and transferred into his personal bank account in London.

The witness further narrated to the court how National Security Adviser also replied the Commission by confirming that the three APC identification registration numbers gotten by Gobir for the Nigerian Police, Kwara was genuine as to the end users certificate that was produced which has the defendant as the vendor.

The trial however could not go on due to the fact that the prosecution did not serve the letter which the NSA wrote to EFCC on the defendant’s counsel.

Justice Oyefeso ordered the prosecution to serve the defence counsel with the necessary documents.

She thereafter adjourned the matter until September 13, 2018 for continuation of trial.

President Muhammmadu Buhari says he is in a difficult situation over appointments.

The president said this at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Monday while receiving a delegation of the Supreme Council for Sharia in Nigeria.

He was responding to a number of issues raised by the delegation, including complaints that Muslims had been marginalised in appointments to government institutions such as the military and the civil service.

Buhari, according to a statement by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity Malam Garba Shehu, said adherents of all faiths accused him of marginalisation over appointments.

He said this illustrated how difficult his job was as he faced the same criticism from adherents of other faiths.

“I am in a difficult situation,” the president admitted.

On the burning issue of violent conflicts in some parts of country, he said he was putting in his best.

He said that following his dissatisfaction with the performance of the Police in Zamfara State, he ordered a massive transfer of officers and men who had stayed three years and above in the troubled state.

He appealed to the religious leaders to instruct their followers on the importance of possessing their own voters’ cards which he described as a “national entitlement,” and to preach justice to all "which is an instituted pillar of Islam".

Buhari revealed that he had received a “stiff bill” from the Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, for the restoration of the dilapidated infrastructure and facilities of federal government-owned radio stations in all states of the federation.
The president promised that something would be done.

Speaking on behalf of the delegation, the vice president, Sheikh Hadiyyatullahi Abdulrashid, commended Buhari for accomplishing his election promises.

He likened Buhari to the captain of a capsizing ship and the messiah needed by the country.

An Abuja-based owner of Hilton Clean Barbers identified as Alfred Umoh, has taken to the social media platform, Facebook to send an interesting proposal to President Muhamamdu Buhari. 

Writing on his Facebook page, the young man said that rather than the president spend the budgeted N86million on haircuts, he is willing to give him free hair cuts for the whole year.

A young man who made a living from deceiving the public - has been arrested after his trick was uncovered. According to reports, the suspect pretended to be handicapped as he begged in public with a fake amputated hand.

It was gathered that the fake beggar's trick was exposed after his friend saw him begging with the "injured" hand.

Police rushed at the scene and ordered him to remove the cloths he had covered his hand with and all the passersby were shocked.

It was reported that the young man has been covering his hand with dirty rugs faking to be amputated in order to collect as much money as he can from the unsuspecting sympathizers.

The suspect reportedly said he had been into the begging business for three months now.

The Inspector-General of Police (I-G), Mr Ibrahim Idris, has deployed Special Intervention Force to Plateau to restore peace in Barkin-Ladi, Riyom, Jos South local government areas and other flash points in the state.

Many people were killed by gunmen on June 24 in Barkin-Ladi, Riyom, Jos South local government areas of plateau.

A statement by the Force Spokesman, acting DCP Jimoh Moshood, on Monday in Abuja, noted that two police aerial surveillance helicopters, five Armored Personnel Carriers (APCs) and three Police Mobile Force Units (PMF) were deployed.

He said that two Counter Terrorism Units (CTU) and Police Intelligence Unit and conventional police personnel from other states have also been deployed to the affected areas.

Moshood added that the Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of operations had relocated to Plateau on the directive of the I-G to coordinate and supervise the operations.

He noted that “the I-G has directed the Commissioner of Police in charge of I-G monitoring unit to lead the police special investigation team to the affected areas and other flash points in Plateau.”

He stated that the investigation team comprised the Intelligence Response Team (IRT), the Special Tactical Squad (STS) and the Technical Platforms.

He said “the team is to carry out thorough and discreet investigation into the killings and promptly apprehend those responsible.”

The spokesman added that the police special intervention force included personnel of Force Criminal Intelligence and Investigation Department (FCIID), a detachment of Police Explosive Ordinance Department (EOD), Police K9 (Sniffer Dogs Section), conventional policemen, special anti-robbery squads.

Moshood said that the team, which had started arriving, were already working with the police command in the state to restore peace and sustain normalcy in the affected areas.

He pointed out that “to achieve success in this operation, the team will be proactive and strict in the enforcement of its mandates, police standard operations procedures and rule of engagement will be fully adhered to.

“The police special intervention force will ensure full enforcement of the curfew imposed on the affected areas by the Plateau Government.”

The police spokesman noted that personnel of the special intervention force would carry out 24 hours surveillance and patrol, stop and search vehicles and suspected locations and hideouts of suspected assailants.

“The team will also engage in continuous raid of identified criminal hideouts and black spots, with a view to arrest those responsible for the killings and prevent any further attacks.”

He called on traditional rulers, religious leaders, community leaders, youth groups, public office holders, politicians, opinion leaders and parents to support the police.

Three governors of the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Sunday displayed their skills to the delight of their colleagues while dancing to a song by a popular Hausa musician, known as Rarara.

PoliticsNGR learnt that governors, Nasir el-Rufai of Kaduna state, Jibrilla Bindo of Adamawa and Yahaya Bello of Kogi, joined other APC supporters in a carnival-like scene at the 2018 National Convention of the party at the Eagle Square, Abuja, to dance to the tune.

Rarara, from Kano state, is staunch supporter of President Muhammadu Buhari and the APC.

The musician has so far successfully released many songs, praising and highlighting the achievements of the Buhari administration in the past three years.

Rarara and other musicians were called upon to entertain an unprecedented crowd of party faithful who were awaiting the results of the elective national convention.

The voting exercise which started on Saturday, was still on by Sunday afternoon as officials were seen struggling to sort out all the results of the elections.


Former Edo State governor, Adams Oshiomhole, and incumbent National Secretary of the party, Mai Mala Buni, have been affirmed as elected by the party’s delegates from 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory

Danladi Ciroma, the Chairman, North Central zone of Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders’ Association of Nigeria (MACBAN), has reacted to the recent attacks on Plateau villages by suspected herdsmen where over 86 persons were hacked to death.

DAILY POST reports that Plateau Police Command on Sunday confirmed the killing of 86 persons in the attacks on Razat, Ruku, Nyarr, Kura and Gana-Ropp villages of Gashish District in Barkin Ladi Local Government.


Ciroma in a statement claimed that the attack was in retaliation of the killing of over 300 cows in the last few weeks by the villagers.

He said despite the efforts of the state government, some criminal elements hiding among their people were still frustrating the peace efforts.

“These attacks are retaliatory. As much as I don’t support the killing of human being, the truth must be told that those who carried out the attacks must be on revenge mission.

“There have been recent reports of cow rustling and destruction of farms between Berom farmers and Fulani herdsmen. The people carrying out these criminal activities are well known to the communities but the communities are hiding them.


“Fulani herdsmen have lost about 300 cows in the last few weeks – 94 cows were rustled by armed Berom youths in Fan village, another 36 cows were killed by Berom youths. In addition to that, 174 cattle were rustled and the criminals disappeared with them to Mangu.

“Since these cows were not found, no one should expect peace in the areas. Even soldiers that went after the criminals to recover the rustled cows were shot by the armed rustlers and eventually escaped with all the cows.

“The government of Governor Lalong has done a lot to restore peace, but the criminal elements hiding among their people are the ones frustrating these peace efforts.

“Though the security agencies have tried, they need to do more by being fair to all parties; they should not neglect any report presented by Fulani of Berom because such report can lead to attacks and deaths if not properly handled.


“Criminals thrive a lot in Berom communities, but when the Fulani, who are always victims of their crime, react with attacks, they blame the government.

“These communities have leaders, why hide the criminals? They should fish out the criminals and hand them over to security agencies to avoid death of innocent ones.

“As it is today, the Berom man cannot go to farm, the Fulani cannot breed his cows in Berom Land. This can be stopped if the security agencies do more than what they are currently doing. The attacks will stop as soon as the security agencies stop Berom youths from stealing Fulani cows” he added.

A serial child molester, Mr Ifeanyi Akpa, a male and indigene of Onicha Igbeze of Onicha Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, who resides in Osubi Okpe Local Government Area of Delta State, was arrested today and handed to the police by Osubi community for the severe beating of his nephew, Chigozie Ogbu, 13 years old, who is living with him.

Comrade Friday Okpako, Osubi youth president, who alerted Orerokpe police, said there were several report by neighbours of severe maltreatment and corporal punishment melted on the boy daily, by Mr Akpa and his wife Mrs Ngozi Akpa, who has four (4 ) children from the marriage.

According to an eye witness, "Chigozie does all the domestic work in the house, sells pure water during the day and yet they won't allow the poor boy to have his peace". He added that the boy has rounded up his primary education yet they refused to enroll him for secondary school. He also said the boy is very intelligent.

The Speaker, Delta State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori, who is also the community leader, who was on his way from Sunday service, met the situation and immediately directed that the boy should be taken to the hospital for proper treatment from the serious injuries inflicted on him.

When he was asked to stand he could not, because of the excruciating pains from his swollen back.

Speaker of Delta State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori also directed Sheriff Oborevwori Foundation Scholarship/Bursary Committee Chairman, Chief Mrs E. E. Onokpasa, to award scholarship to Chigozie to University level to enable him continue his education.

He said the Scholarship will run till the end of his university studies. He also promised to ensure the well-being of the child.

The police later whisked Mr Akpa to Orerokpe police station.

Quote:A national leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu, on Sunday asked former President Olusegun Obasanjo to stop interfering in the affairs of the ruling party.

He spoke in Abuja at the venue of the national convention of the party.

Mr Tinubu, who described Mr Obasanjo’s interference as “busy body”, argued that the achievements of President Muhammadu Buhari in three years could not be compared to those of the administrations of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), which ruled the country for unbroken 16 years.

Mr Obasanjo was president between 1999 and 2007 on the platform of the PDP.

The former president had earlier in the year written an open letter to Mr Buhari asking him not to run for a second term because he had performed poorly.

However, the president ignored the advice as he announced at the APC National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting in Abuja that he would seek reelection next year.

Mr Tinubu, a former governor of Lagos State, said Mr Obasanjo did not have the right to tell the president not to run again.

“Thank God he (Obasanjo) is not a part of our party; this busy body. Unfortunately he has torn the card of his previous party so he has no home,” he said.

He thanked Mr Buhari for his decision to run again, saying “run, contest, you must.”

He also appreciated Vice President Yemi Osinbajo for being “a great fountain of knowledge” and for not undermining his (vice president) leaders.

On the convention, Mr Tinubu expressed joy that it was successfully conducted, stating “today through convention we have changed the leadership of our party, not at gun point.”

Congratulating the newly elected national chairman, Adams Oshiomhole, the former governor said his (Oshiomhole) emergence was a true reflection of the saying that “no matter how short a man is you will see the sky.”

He admonished the new NWC members to work hard for the party because its members had put their trust in them and would not afford to fail.

He said, “In trust we put you; that trust you cannot abuse. We will be with you, support you and the day we need to fight you, we will fight.”

Mr Tinubu said despite predictions that the APC would implode during the convention, it remained intact.

“The ‘pigs’ and their fortune tellers predicted the party will fall apart but I thank the (national convention) committee for making the convention a success,” he said.

It was a show of shame yesterday at the national convention of the All Progressives Congress (APC) at the Eagles Square in Abuja. Some delegates from various states including Taraba, Delta, Imo and others clashed and fought publicly at the event where the president, Muhammadu Buhari and other top dignitaries were present.

One of the delegates who was beaten by others at the event - was pictured after the convention after receiving treatment for his broken head.

Trouble first started among delegates from Imo State before spreading to the Delta State delegates.

While the clash between delegates from Imo was brought under control by security operatives after a while, that between the Delta delegates was more intense with chairs being hurled and several people sustaining injuries.

This occurred despite the heavy security presence at the venue of the convention which has President Muhammadu Buhari, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, and the who is who of the party.

For we which have believed do enter into rest, as he said, As I have sworn in my wrath, if they shall enter into my rest: although the works were finished from the foundation of the world (Hebrews 4:3).

Are you aware that in Christ, God has done all that He’s ever meant to do for you? What’s left is for you to discover these things and walk in the light of them. We may say to someone, “God is going to heal you today,” or “The Lord will do a new thing in your life”; that’s for the spiritual babe in Christ.

God, in essence, isn’t going to “heal you today” or do anything for you today, because He’s already done everything for you in Christ Jesus. He healed you on the Cross. You might say, “But yesterday, I felt a sharp pain in my chest; I prayed and God healed me.” He didn’t heal you yesterday. You only appropriated yesterday, what He already did for you in Christ over two thousand years ago. You tapped into something He already did.

God’s not working on your case in heaven; He’s sitting, waiting till His enemies become His footstool. That’s what the Bible says: He finished all the work, and today, He’s at rest. What did Jesus say on the cross, before His death? “It is finished” (John 19:30)! He accomplished everything necessary to bring you out of any and every predicament, and catapulted you into the life of glory. He’s done all that was needed to put an end to suffering for all of humanity.

No matter what you may be going through right now, Jesus has settled it all for you. Stop praying and expecting God to “do something” and bring about the changes you desire; the power for change is within you. The Lord Jesus said in Matthew 17:20, “…If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you.”

Thus, with the Word of God on your lips and the power of the Holy Spirit, there’s nothing you can’t handle in this world.

The Lagos State Police Command is offering one million Naira reward to anybody with useful information that will lead to the arrest of the hooded lady who  alleged Police Inspector Christopher Marcel Nabugwu of living in opulence. 

Recall that the masked woman had in a video that went viral on the social media alleged that the police inspector owns a property worth over two hundred and fifty million  (N250million) at No. 27  Remi Fani-Kayode Street GRA, Ikeja, uses exotic cars with customised vehicle  licence plate titled  "MCON" and worth over N2billion in cash and assets.

These allegations caught the attention of the Inspector General of Police who ordered an investigation into the allegation the source not withstanding. 

Investigation into the matter was painstakingly carried out. At the end of the probe, it was clear that the allegations were not only false and misleading but a calculated attempt to malign the good name of a hardworking police officer and  embarrass the police authorities.

The Commissioner of Police, Lagos state, CP Edgal Imohimi  said the police  is counting on the already established  goodwill of Lagosians and indeed that of good Nigerians in getting credible information that would lead to the arrest of the masked woman.

The CP added that the arrest and prosecution of the masked woman will serve as a deterrent to others who uses  social media platforms to maliciously destroy the good image of innocent Nigerians.

The immediate past governor of Kano State, Rabiu Kwankwaso, has explained that he deliberately avoided the APC national convention held on Saturday and Sunday to avoid breakdown of law and order.

Mr. Kwankwaso said he and his supporters intended to attend the convention but did not due to the APC leadership of John Odigie-Oyegun refusing to recognise the congresses that favoured his loyalists at the state, local government and wards in Kano.

The senator gave his stance in a statement sent to PREMIUM TIMES, which he also circulated on his Twitter handle.

“I wish to inform the leadership of the party and the general public that we had wanted to be part of the National Convention but regrettably all the congresses that we conducted at the wards, Local Government Councils and at the State level were not recognized by the outgoing National Executive Council of the party.

“Therefore, I felt that presenting ourselves at such an important event will not be in the overall interest of the entire convention that is assuming we are allowed access into the convention ground.

“Because there are high chances that our presence could create embarrassments and a lot of friction similar or even worse than what occurred in the pavilions of delegations from Imo and Delta States during yesterday’s convention. However, as the new EXCO settles to start the efforts of uniting the party we wish you the very best,” he said.

The senator congratulated the newly elected national chairman of the APC, Adams Oshiomole,and others who emerged leaders of the party.

Mr Kwankwaso has been locked in a fierce political confrontation with the current Kano governor, Umar Ganduje. Over the past two years, several attacks and reprisal attacks between the supporters of the two politicians have been reported.

Both men are members of the APC and the incumbent was Mr Kwankwaso’s deputy when the senator was governor of the state, the most populous in Northern Nigeria.

However, after the ward and state congresses of the party, the APC headquarters recognised the Kano APC loyal to the governor.

Mr Kwankwaso is a member of the nPDP, a faction within the APC that has alleged marginalisation. Many of them, including Senate President Bukola Saraki, have pledged loyalty to the APC in the past; but some are expected to leave the ruling party in the build up to the 2019 elections.

On Saturday, rather than attend the APC convention, Mr Kwankwaso visited former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, a chieftain of the PDP and presidential aspirant, at his Asokoro, Abuja residence.

Mr Kwankwaso is also believed to nurse a presidential ambition, although he is yet to formally declare.

Saraki noted that although he does not want to dwell on the issue of whether he is still wanted in APC or not, he said “time will tell what happens.”

The Senate President made the declaration at a farewell dinner for delegates of the International Press Institute (IPI) World Congress which he hosted in Abuja.

The Senate President was responding to a comment by the Chairman, Daily TrustNewspapers, Kabiru Yusuf, who praised him for going to Saudi Arabia to perform the Lesser Hajj, went to Russia where he addressed the Russian parliament and returned home to attend the APC convention “a party to which he belongs but which increasingly does not belong to him.”

Saraki appeared to have been taken aback by the remark that he “belongs to APC but increasingly the party does not belong to him.”

He said, “Kabiru made a comment and said that he welcomes me as a member of the party and further said he is not sure if the party welcomes me as much as I welcome them.

“I am not going to comment on that because I will be here all night commenting on that. I won’t like to be the front page story but time will tell on that.

“Already, based on this comment, I know most newspapers headline would be time will tell. So I won’t be surprised if I check This Day newspapers and I see: The Senate President says time will tell.”

On the IPI World Congress in Africa, Saraki expressed hope that in the near future Africa will receive nod to host it again.

He also expressed pleasure that the world’s best journalists, editors and media executives converged in Nigeria to explore the theme – ‘Why Good Journalism Matters: Quality Media For Strong Societies’.

Saraki noted that he had no doubt, from the engaging sessions and enriching discussions over the last couple of days, many strategies should have been formulated that will take the practice of journalism to new heights around the world.

He welcomed IPI officials to Nigeria and called for more regular visits, and indeed annual congresses, in Africa.

“This, I believe, will make for better understanding of Nigerians and Africans in the eyes of the international media. When international journalists themselves come in our midst and get the right position about Africa, the image of our continent will start to improve in the eyes of the world out there,” Saraki said.

The visiting journalists, he said, will agree with him that “negative stereotypes of the so-called ‘dark continent’ have been bandied about for too long.

“This has had an unfortunate effect on the development of Africa, as well as the sense of pride and dignity of young Africans down the ages.”

The Senate President said that they know that “these negative notions of Africa are largely misconceptions.”

According to him, “in those cases where there may have been some truth in them, what we also know is that culture is not static. Some things that may have been true of Nigeria in the 1930s are no longer the case in the Nigeria of today. We can say much the same about America in many respects, or indeed of any place else.

“Culture is dynamic and refreshes itself; it evolves. It would therefore be appropriate for the larger world’s view of Africa to move apace, in line with the changing times. The media is key to achieving this.”

He added that “how we begin to redress the balance goes to the heart of responsible journalism itself.

“It starts with quality, accurate and objective reporting – the hallmarks of good journalism. Objectivity and impartiality, those time-honoured principles of responsible journalism, cannot be over-emphasised,” he said.

Saraki noted that “as Nigeria heads into the 2019 election year, we plead with the press – national and international – to maintain objectivity at all times in their reporting.”

“I say this because there can be no democracy without credible elections. If we get the election right, then we have a better chance of making a stronger society.

“We are living in times that call on the press to strive, more than ever, to defend freedoms. Events all over the world attest to the urgency of this.

“The media must be a defender of values; it must stand for rights, for openness – for the remaking of a world where the powerful will not oppress the weak.”

The Senate President I noted that “in the era of Fake News, especially with the fragmentation of the social contract as we are witnessing all over the world today, it is clear to me that the media cannot afford to be complacent.”

The media, he insisted, “cannot allow itself to be complicit” saying “when false claims are made, which could heat up the polity – or set different groups off against one another – it behoves the media to expose these by countering with verifiable facts.”

He recognised that the media is facing its own challenges, due in part to the internet and the rise of social media.

“So also, are the modes of relaying the news to an audience whose preference for receiving mass communication is also changing with each passing day.

“The media must adapt for this rapidly changing environment, in order that the journalist may fulfill his or her role, in the Lincolnian tradition, as a defender of democracy.”

Saraki who said that more than ever, the media must be proactive in defending the people’s right to know added that “in spite of the obstacles, the press must press on, because it is its responsibility to help society know itself better.”

He said that the media is a galvanising artery that holds the world together, a collective mirror to global conscience.

“We salute you, and thank you for your steadfastness and courage, despite the privations suffered in the journalist’s pursuit of the people’s right to know,” he said.

He assured of the continued support of the Senate, and indeed the entire 8th National Assembly of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, to ensuring a free and vibrant press capable of playing its part in strengthening democratic norms.

“We stand committed to upholding press freedom, and to come to the aid of journalists whenever the need arises.

“Our doors are open and will remain open to ideas, strategies and policies for improving the practice of journalism in Nigeria and the condition of the journalists themselves – in line with global standards,” he said.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has told the All Progressives Congress (APC) that Nigerians cannot be fooled by its attempt to change its slogan from ‘Change’ to ‘Progress’.

In a statement issued Sunday by it National Publicity Secretary, the PDP described such thought as a “direct insult on the intelligence of Nigerians and the worst form of deceit from a failed political party that had brought nothing but hunger, afflictions and daily bloodletting to the nation.”

One of the masters of ceremony at the APC convention in Abuja on Saturday had said that the ruling party had changed its slogan from ‘Change’ to Progress’.

But in a quick response, the PDP said, “How can the APC think that by changing its slogan, Nigerians will suddenly forget that in the last three years of its administration, the nation has not witnessed the Change it promised and that all the campaign promises upon which they rode to power have all turned out to be lies?

“Whereas under the APC misrule all aspects of our national life have witnessed unprecedented deterioration, its leaders are busy thinking of how to beguile Nigerians with a change of slogan instead of preparing their handover notes.”

PDP said, “It is a notorious fact that the APC has nothing to progress with unless they mean the perpetuation of their misrule, violation of human rights, de-marketing of our nation, wrecking of our economy, increased unemployment, instigating of disunity among the people as well as the acute hunger and poverty for which they have become synonymous.”

It said it was imperative to inform APC leaders that the solution to the problems they had unleashed on the nation did not lie in sloganeering but in a new leadership of qualitative Nigerians endowed with in depth knowledge in the areas of economy, security and good governance.

Urging Nigerians to “shun this contrivance of another deceptive lexicon aimed to once again beguile our people, now that election is around the corner”, the party said, “the repositioned PDP is working round the clock in our resolve to bring forth a form of government that will encapsulate the aspirations, happiness and prosperity of Nigerians in all areas of life.”

Following the deaths of “over 100” persons on Saturday night, the government of Plateau State has imposed a curfew on Riyom, Barakin Ladi and Jos south Local Government Areas of the state.

The curfew was announced on Sunday afternoon by the secretary to the state government, Rufus Bature.

According to him, the movements in the three local government areas would be restricted between 6pm and 6am, but that those on “essential duties” would be exempted.

“The Plateau State government has imposed curfew in Riyom, Barkin Ladi and Jos South to avert a breakdown of law and order,” Mr Bature stated.

“Movement is restricted from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m., except those on essential duties.”




Ladi Choji, chairman of Berom Youth Movement, had told newsmen that over 100 persons were killed while houses, including churches, were torched.

He said 31 corpses were recovered from Gashish village, 42 others from different villages in Barkin Ladi.

The attacks were blamed on suspected herdsmen.

“I believe that this attack was carefully planned by the herdsmen in collaboration with some military personnel who aided the attack,” he said.

“We have recovered 34 corpses from Gana Ropp and 8 from Gashis while several others have not been recovered.

“The corpses would be close to 100 because apart from 42 corpses that we have recovered, we are mobilising people to go into the villages to pick other corpses corpses that have not been recovered.”

Mathias Tyopev, spokesman of the Plateau police command, confirmed the incident but could not give casualty figure.

Cholera outbreak at Tsangaya Islamic school, Madaki, in Gombe, has led to the death of three pupils while 27 others were hospitalised.

Dr Kennedy Ishaya, Gombe state Commissioner of Health confirmed the outbreak to newsmen in Gombe on Sunday during an inspection visit to Madaki Primary Health Care facility where the victims are hospitalized.

He said within three days, 30 children from Tsangaya Islamic school had contracted the disease out of which three had died.

Ishaya said 15 were treated and discharged while 12 were still receiving treatment at the facility.


According to him, government has stocked all health facilities in Gombe with sufficient drugs and advised people not to hesitate to report any suspected case to the nearest facility.

The commissioner also appealed to the health personnel working in the health facilities to take all necessary steps to avoid the risk of infection.

“Make sure you observe Nightingale principles; no chewing of kola or chewing gum during working hours.

“Come to the hospital with two pairs of clothing. When going home, drop the one you worked with and wear another one ,’’ he said.

He also appealed to Muslim faithful performing ablution to make sure they used water from good source to avoid contamination.

Armed men attack Plateau mourners; witness says 120 killed; police confirm 11

A cleric has reported the killing of 120 people who were returning from a funeral service.

The police confirmed the attack but said only 11 persons died.

The pastor in charge of Church of Christ In Nations (COCIN) Regional Church Council (RCC) Rop in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area said the mourners were killed by suspected armed herdsmen.

Pam Chollom stated this in an interview with PREMIUM TIMES on Sunday. He said the attack on Saturday lasted for several hours.

“Fulani people attacked our members who attended the burial of the father to one of our clergy Baba Jakawa, at Gidin Akwati, Gashis district. Late Jakawa was aged over 80 years, a committed member of COCIN, so his burial attracted many sympathisers.”

“The armed Fulanis ambushed the sympathisers on their way back from the burial, attacked and killed 34 persons from Nekan village, 39 others from Kufang, and 47 people from Ruku village.

“As we speak with you, many others are still missing in the bushes,” he said.

The cleric added that “the sad incident started at about 1:00 p.m. in the afternoon, and lasted still about 8:00 p.m. yesterday (Saturday).

“We informed members of the Special Task Force (STF) on Jos crisis. They went to one of the villages, but the attackers had committed the havoc and left,” Mr Chollom said.

The spokesman of the STF, also known as “Operation Safe Heaven,” Umar Adams, confirmed the attack in an interview with PREMIUM TIMES on Sunday.

He, however, could not ascertain the casualty.

“I’m speaking with you from one the scenes of the incident. Our men were able to repel the attackers, made some arrest, though lives were lost. But at the moment, I cannot tell you exact number of the deaths.”

“Our men in Barkin Ladi responded promptly to the incident, because they heard sounds of the gun shots, and moved to the direction.

“On reaching there, there was another similar incident in another village, some of them were redeployed to the affected area. We have been able to arrest the situation, it is now calm.”

On its part, the Nigeria Police Force, through its spokesperson in Plateau, Terna Tyopev, told journalists in Jos that 11 people died from the attack.

Mr. Tyopev said the bodies of the deceased persons have been deposited at the Barkin Ladi general hospital. He also said armed personnel have been redeployed to the trouble areas.

Meanwhile, Plateau State Government has confirmed the attacks and commiserated with victims of the attacks.

A statement by the Commissioner for Information and Communication Yakubu Dati, said the government regrets the incident.

“The Plateau State Government wishes to commiserate with citizens of the state especially, Xland, Gindin Akwati communities of Barkin Ladi Local Government, over unfortunate recent attacks,” Mr Dati said.

“Government is deeply pained that despite concerted efforts which had led to the restoration of relative peace across the state, some unpatriotic elements are bent on disrupting the gains so far made.

“We, however, appeal to citizens not to take laws into their hands and cooperate with security agencies to prevent further break down of law and order as they track perpetrators of the evil act.”

The cleric, Pam Chollom, also told PREMIUM TIMES that over 30 houses were completely burnt by the attackers

“At Nekan, 15 houses were burnt; in Kufang, 18 houses were also burnt,” he said.

Plateau is one of the states most affected by clashes between farmers and migrant herders.

Hundreds of people have been killed in attacks linked to herdsmen in Plateau and neighbouring states like Benue since January.

More airlines, agencies and organisations have thrown their weight behind the League in order to ensure a successful outing of this year’s event and so far, no fewer than seven airlines, both local and international have supported the league in different forms.

Others are gearing to make firm commitment to the seminar, which has attracted high level industry speakers from both within and in the Disapora.

Alhaji Muneer Bankole, the Chairman and Managing Director of Med-View Airline in an interaction LAAC in Lagos, said that members of the league have been able to put the government on its toes through objective and analytical writings while the policies of the government for the industry are reviewed by reporters on the beat.

Bankole noted that reporters on the beat had over the years contributed their quota immensely to the development of the industry, promising that the airline would continue to partner with the league in all its programmes.
He said: “LAAC over the years has been our partner in progress. Members of the league have been tremendously useful to the growth of the airline and the industry at large. Without you doing the informative reporting, the industry won’t be where it is today even though; we know there are still a lot needed to be done.”

FOLLOWING arguments put forward by an aviation stakeholder questioning the figures put forward by Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), the back and forth argument on the figures have ensued.

Reacting to recent publications about disparities in the figures, the NCAA has reaffirmed the sanctity of the recently released statistical data on the aviation industry stating that they are verifiable and no amount of push and shove can cast aspersion on our figures.
Of recent, Group Captain John Ojikutu, Secretary of the Aviation Round Table (ART) at the think-tank’s breakfast meeting put the figures under scrutiny, however, the regulator insists that the system and processes of generating and gathering data are in line with best practices and international standards.

The NCAA, in a recent statement signed by its spokesman, Sam Adurgboye, advised stakeholders and the public to resist all attempts to create confusion and cast doubts on the figures. This is clearly a result of crass ignorance and the purveyors being too clever by half.

The process of generating data is as stipulated in the Nigerian Civil Aviation Regulations (Nig.CARs) 2015 Part 18.12.5. “all domestic and international airlines operating in Nigeria shall forward to the Authority through an electronic platform provided by the Authority, all relevant documents such as flown coupons, passenger or cargo manifests, air waybills, load sheets, clients’ service invoices and other documents necessary for accurate billing within forty-eight (48) hours after each flight.”
In addition, as part of the billing requirements, the Authority collects billable data from airlines, photocopy of flown coupons and Post Departure Manifest (PDM) of international flight operations.
All these are International Air Transport Association (IATA) documents which NCAA cannot influence.

The Flown Coupons contain specific information required by IATA before billings are done and issued. These are Ticket Number, Name of Passenger, Ticket Sales Charge (NG) etc. It is noteworthy that the prerequisite NCAA 5% TSC paid by passengers is indicated on the ticket. These data are warehoused by NCAA and can be verified.

The domestic billing process requires the airline to submit to the Authority its Passenger Departure Manifest (PDM) immediately after every flight departure. It is from the filed fares that 5% TSC is calculated. The Automated Integrated System therefore ensures authenticity between NCAA server and airlines.
Similarly, the process of billing 5% Cargo Sales Charge (CSC) requires the airline to submit Airway bill in accordance to the Nig.CARs.The weight and rate stated on the Airway bill is used in the calculation of the CSC.
However, it is pertinent to state that the statistics available for 5% CSC is not the same as the harmonised figures. Cargo data captures the total weight of the cargo (import and export) while NCAA chargeable weight is on export cargo only.

Please note that foreign airlines with Bilateral Air Service Agreement (BASA) do not pay royalty on cargo airlift, though the cargo weights are captured but not billable.

Furthermore, the Authority authenticates the automated data output with the hard copy data submitted by the airlines. This serves as verification and determination of the actual flown passengers.

The following categories are non revenue passengers and are therefore exempted from 5% TSC calculation. These are Diplomats, Infants less than 2(two) years. Those whose journeys do not originate from Nigeria (ticket sold offshore).

In ticket sales there are promotional, discounted, staff and low season’s fares. It is the aggregate of these that mischief makers sum up and begin to tout figures.
Airline fares are not constant and they are dissimilar across routes and continental distances. It is therefore preposterous for anyone to attach the same fare to all passengers as the confusionists have done.
It is absolutely impossible for any airline to remit 5% TSC on passengers not flown. The airlines carry out a scrutiny of NCAA billing using their flown coupons before remittances of sales charge to NCAA.

On international flights, IATA provides support via Billing Settlement Plan (BSP) through its Clearing House, verification and direct collection of 5% TSC. All the above processes attest to the sanctity of our figures.

The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) will continue to ensure due diligence in data collation. This prevalent distraction will not deter the Regulatory Authority from providing a robust regulation that will engender safe and secure airline operations.

In Luke 11:11-13, the Lord Jesus said, “If a son shall ask bread of any of you that is a father, will he give him a stone? or if he ask a fish, will he for a fish give him a serpent? Or if he shall ask an egg, will he offer him a scorpion? If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children: how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him?” Here, He was teaching people of the old covenant, the Jews, about faith in God; how to “get” things from God.

However, today, for us as new creations in Christ, things are different. We don’t try to “get” anything from God, because we have all things in Christ. The Bible says, “According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness…” (2 Peter 1:3). The tenses show that it’s already done: God has given you ALL things that pertain to life and godliness.

Many have misunderstood the teachings of Jesus on faith. Those teachings really don’t apply to the new creation, because He was teaching a principle to men and women of the senses, who didn’t understand faith as a lifestyle. They didn’t understand how to live from inside out.

Everything you desire in life is already inside you. There’s no need to try to “get” anything from God as though it’s coming from outside. You don’t need to try to get what you already have. What you need is to know how to bring into physical manifestation, that which already belongs to you in Christ.
There’s no provision of the Gospel that isn’t already your legal possession in Christ. You only need to speak them forth. What you say becomes. Whatever you desire or require today is already yours; call it forth and it’ll appear. Glory to God!

As regulator debunks allegations of partiality in charges collections

ARIK Air has joined other domestic airlines including Dana Air, Aero, Medview and Overland on the automation platform of the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), a move meant to ease revenue collection and improve transparency of process by all involved.

This is just as the NCAA has said that rumours that some airlines were being exempted from paying 5% Ticket and Cargo sales charges were not true as no waiver has been given to any airline as alleged in certain quarters.

The automation platform is meant to deduct at source the 5% Ticket and Cargo sales charges accruing to the NCAA but shared by five agencies also including the Nigeria Airspace Management Agency, NAMA, the Nigeria College of Aviation Technology, Zaria NCAT, the Nigeria Meteorological Agency, NIMET and the Accident Investigation Bureau, AIB.
At the presentation of the signed automation Agreement at the NCAA headquarters, the Director General, NCAA, Captain Muktar Usman said the deduction was in line with the provision of the Nigeria Civil Aviation Regulations NCARs.

Captain Muktar while congratulating Arik Air for being fully complaint with the regulations said the automation system ensures transparency and urged other airlines yet to do so to urgently reconsider their decision.

He observed that everyone expects efficiency from the regulatory Authority and thus it was necessary to do what was expected of them to help the authority succeed.

Captain Usman explained that the 5% ticket and cargo sales charges were shared between , adding the NCAA does not take money from government but generates its revenue internally from these charges.

He emphasized that the step taken by Arik to join other airlines who had joined the platform was a sign of a continuous working relationship, stressing that there must be synergy between the operators and the regulatory agency.

According to Captain Usman, all airlines have the same level playing field, pays what was due and no exemption had been given to anyone, adding that no special waiver had been given to any airline on the charges because charges were split in the Civil Aviation Act 2006.

Recall, the AON in a previous statement had alleged that the NCAA was exempting certain airlines from the charges and other charges and were being unfair to others.

Usman said,”Coming on the platform means transparency, more efficiency, less time spent on reconciliation. we want to use this opportunity to encourage others that are not fully in complaint to do, we do not like to force people to come and do so. The 5% charges are meant to take care of 5 agencies, NCAA, NAMA, AIB, NCAT and NIMET. Of the 5 agencies, the Civil aviation Authority demands on the 5% as its internally generated revenue and does not take money from the federal government”.

“We depend on this to run this organization. I want to congratulate Arik for this bold step”, he added.

Responding, Arik Air Managing Director, Captain Roy IIegbodu said Arik Air was committed to associating with the future and believed that this was a step in the right direction.
He noted that automation was all about technology and the airline supports technology and would continue to join all parties in the industry to develop technology.

“One of the thing I would like to say is that the team that worked with us was very supportive, they work through last year and this year, it is not an easy task, automation itself is complex. We will continue to do our utmost to support the growth of aviation in Nigeria”.

Director, Air Transport Regulation NCAA ,retired group captain Edem Oyo-Ita in closing the brief ceremony said, Arik had proven that they are sincere in what they were doing and urged them to also look at the reduction in airfares with the recent removal of 5% VAT on shared transportation by the Federal Government.

A group of Christians under the aegis of National Christian Elders Forum, NCEF, being championed by a former Minister of Defence, Lt. Gen. Theophilus Danjuma (retd.), and Solomon Asemota (SAN), has warned that Christianity in Nigeria may cease to exist in 25 years from now.

Danjuma’s group said that the present generation of Christians may be the last set in Nigeria.

With this, NCEF demanded the restructuring of the Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, before the 2019 general elections.

They warned that if the current faulty structure would be carried into 2019, it might be too late to preserve Christianity in Nigeria.

The Secretary of NCEF, Bosun Emmanuel, expressed these fears in his paper entitled, “Impact of lack of unity in CAN as threat to Christian faith”, delivered during the annual conference of Catholic Men’s Guild, held at the Catholic Church of Assumption, Ikoyi in Lagos.

According to them, the current administration of President Muhammadu Buhari in Nigeria “is openly pursuing an anti-Christian agenda that has resulted in countless murders of Christians all over the nation and destruction of vulnerable Christian communities.”

NCEF said, “Due to the inability of CAN to forge Christians into one indivisible army of the Lord, the Church has been weakened and unable to stand before its enemies. Realistically speaking, Christianity is on the brink of extinction in Nigeria. The ascendancy of Sharia ideology in Nigeria rings the death toll for the Nigerian Church.

“It is therefore imperative that CAN must be restructured, as a matter of urgency, if Christianity is to survive. CAN belongs to every Christian in Nigeria and there is nothing wrong with the association. It is the management that should be revisited and restructured.”

He added, “The Catholic Church should be prepared to return completely into the fold of CAN and participate fully in providing leadership in these troublous times. God warned in 2013 that we were not careful, in 30 to 40 years, Nigeria would be like Turkey.

“In 2018, we can say in 25 years from now, we are facing the risk of being the last Christians in Nigeria. Therefore, Christians should be in the frontline of defending democracy in Nigeria. The Church is the bastion of democracy. A divided CAN cannot defend democracy and promote justice, equity, and fairness. Consequently, Sharia will grow stronger. As Sharia grows stronger, democracy will become weaker and the Church will be emasculated out of existence.

“The current Federal Government in Nigeria is openly pursuing an anti-Christian agenda that has resulted in countless murders of Christians all over the nation and destruction of vulnerable Christian communities. Just recently, Elder Statesman, Gen. T. Y. Danjuma raised the alarm that Christians should take steps to defend themselves.”
