A young man was allegedly shot dead by men attached to the 130 Battalion Nigerian Army in Abonnema, Rivers state on Friday night (9th November 2018).

Mr Sepribo Black-Duke, 31, who went out yesterday to enjoy his evening like every other free citizen was allegedly shot dead by men of the Nigerian Army at about 8:45PM and bled profusely until he died.

Reports have it that Mr Sepribo Black-Duke had sat in a drinking bar located at Briggs Compound, Abonnema where he whiled away the evening alongside a few other friends. It was in the middle of this merriment, that the men of Nigerian Army allegedly unleashed their terror and began to brutalise everyone in the bar.

The army allegedly brutalised and tortured the innocent citizens. They beat and injured Sepribo until he could no longer bear the pains and took to his heels. This was when the soldiers allegedly shot him but yet he still continued running until he finally fell.

According to reports, with his body down, bleeding from belly, the military men walked down to Mr Sepribo and shot at him the 3rd time and was left there wriggling and screaming in a pool of his own blood.

He was finally picked up by friends and relatives with the help of the Executive Chairman, Hon. Rowland Sekibo (JP) and rushed to UPTH but gave up along East-West Road by Choba bridge due to too much loss of blood.

Mr Sepribo Black-Duke was an executive member of the PDP and was the Vice Chairman of the Party in ward 3 Akulga. He was also a vibrant member of Abonnema Youth Organization (A.Y.O).

Meanwhile, the family of the deceased together with the Chairman of Akuku-Toru Local Government Area have met with the Police D.P.O. in Abonnema to make a formal report of the gruesome murder of Mr Sepribo Black-Duke by the Nigerian military men.

The Executive Chairman, Hon. Rowland Sekibo, JP also commiserated with the wife of the deceased earlier on Saturday morning(10th November, 2018).

Ugandan Girl Commits Suicide After Father Caught Her Having Sex On His Bed
User Avatar Forum: Other Stories
Posted by: Edoman - 11-11-2018, 11:37 PM - No Replies

A 16-year-old girl has committed suicide after her father caught her making love to her boyfriend in her father’s bedroom.

The incident is reported to have happened in Kasenge, Kyengera town council in Uganda. Kiraka Mugisha, the father of the deceased, is reported to have returned home one afternoon and found his daughter Kemigisha having sex with her boyfriend on his bed.

Quote:Shocked by what he had witnessed, the father reported the case to the Police, accusing his daughter’s boyfriend Kelvin Yunus Kaddu of defilement.
The Police subsequently decided to detain Kaddu who is 18 and released Kemigisha who was described as a minor since she was under age. However, the following day, the girl surprisingly took her own life by hanging herself in her father’s bedroom.

According to a report by the Monitor.co.ug., Mr. Mugisha was left distraught by what he witnessed and shouted to draw the attention of neighbours.
“What Satan has invaded my home? What have I done to God to deserve this? What kind of curse is this? I am finished,” he is quoted as lamenting.

Meanwhile, the Kampala Metropolitan police spokesperson, Luke Owoyesigyire, has confirmed the crime, saying investigations into the whole incident had commenced.
He further stated that preliminary medical examinations conducted had earlier proved that Kemigisha was actually defiled.

“Her father said he spent the night at his shop perhaps, he was annoyed by the daughter’s alleged action. He visited his home in the morning and was shocked to find his daughter hanging dead on a rope in his bedroom,” Mr Owoyesigyire explained.

Atiku has not been tried but voting for Buhari again would eclipse Nigeria – Olisa Ag
User Avatar Forum: News
Posted by: Edoman - 11-11-2018, 04:16 PM - No Replies

Dr. Olisa Agbakoba, SAN, is a very passionate man. In his quest to fulfil his dream for a better Nigeria, he has moved from civil rights activism to the murky terrain of politics. At 65, he is not happy that Nigeria remains underdeveloped. In this interview, Agbakoba shares his frustrations.

You are one of the few lawyers the people still see as a voice of conscience for this country. How has the experience been?

The experience has been very fulfilling. I have been doing this for 40 years. The later part, that is, the last 10 years, has been downward spiral because the Nigerian state has disintegrated. Nigeria doesn’t exist except on paper.

All the institutions have collapsed; so the fulfilment that came in the early years of law practice is no longer there. You go to court, the judge is not there. You go to court, the judge is there but he doesn’t understand the law. You go to court, the judge is there but he is distracted. You go there, the judge is there but he has over 60 cases and just can’t cope.
You go there, there is no electricity and so we all find ourselves in the heat wearing our fake white hair that has been abolished in the UK. So the little bit I regret is the failure of the legal and judicial institutions. So many lawyers are frustrated about what is going Of all the issues in this country, which one worries you most?

Very simple issue… I am so unfortunate to be a product of a country of grossly incompetent leaders. Leadership is easy. We can resolve our issues if we have good leaders. It worries me that we have natural, human and financial talents but no one is interested. Unfortunately the wrong people keep going in (as leaders).

]As a lawyer who has been in the struggle for a better Nigeria for years, do you see a future for this I don’t see any future for this country. Where is it coming from? I don’t see any future here. Even as a parent, you don’t see a future for your children in this country?

I have children but that is a shocker. If you have been around as long as I have been, you will appreciate what I am saying. When I came here, Apapa was the golden district of Lagos. It was so clean and well organized. Look around and you can see that everything is deteriorating. I live in Ikoyi. The Ikoyi of 1980s when my kids learnt how to ride bicycle on the streets is longer the Ikoyi of today. Let’s be honest, I am not the kind of person to be engaged in argument on patriotism. On the current form, all the systems have broken down and I am unable to see a future. Look at my friend Charlie Boy for instance. He was saying the other day that he couldn’t understand why when he calls for protest, the youths he is speaking for don’t come out. But they are on social media abusing each other. Where are the youths? They are not employed, they are in misery. Life is not good for them. When we organize to assist them, when we look back, we don’t see anybody.

]So where does the disconnect lie? ]The disconnect lies with the fact that the youth themselves are trapped in poverty. They are trapped in unemployment, so there is no way they can see. Idealism requires a certain sense of purpose but if the youths we speak of are busy drinking and smoking, then, of course, they can’t be useful. And that is exactly what the politicians are capitalizing on. As the leader of the Third Force Movement and the political process, I was initially convinced that change will be seen in 2019 as a result of the new small parties which are very strong on the social media. Like the ones headed by Durotoye and Sowore. But they can’t even talk to themselves.

]They tried and they failed. I hope that people would understand that voting for Buhari would eclipse Nigeria. You judge a man by the four years he has ruled. Atiku has not been tried. A lot of things have been said about him, but I would rather vote for him than for Buhari although my first preference is to go for this basket of Third Force political parties and, hopefully, we can get the house in order.

You paint a picture of hopelessness for this country. Why?

I am happy to shock you. God did not say he will fix Nigeria. We have the freewill to fix our country. We are not allowing our God the opportunity to help us to fix things. Nigeria is one of the world’s most religious countries but we are spiritually Which governor does not invoke God or Allah? They all do it but they are all thieves. Let them first declare that their security votes will no longer be used. We will be looking at trillions of Naira. I don’t know where you have been but the reality is that Nigeria is in such a bad state. In the index of failed states, Nigeria is at a position described as low grade civil war.   Most of the states are unsafe. The police are helpless, the institutions are in a bad state. Despite all these, in Abuja, the politicians are enjoying.

Don’t you consider yourself a failure for not being able to produce young ones that will take over from your generation?

I can take you to the stream but I can’t force you to drink water. I have my boys scattered all over the place, the Nigerian Bar Association, civil society and all over. But that is not the point. Where are the followers in spite of the training? They are not there. They are interested in Yahoo, 419, social media. The social media now is an evil tool. (Oby) Obiakwesili Bring Back Our Girls campaign, has she ever recorded 500 people?

Some people have suggested that revolution appears to be the only solution in this country. Do you support that idea? If you do, what type should it you do?
It should be a bloody revolution. It cannot happen by magic. Don’t you see that there is enough anger in the system?   I have written; I have spoken, I have been on social media; what else am I supposed to do? March on the road myself. I can’t do that. If there is a movement and they say ‘help us address the movement’, I will say yes. But the youths are not interested. They are only interested in listening to their fake music and jumping around.
We should deal with the 2019 election by asking Mr Buhari why he wants to come back. We should ask Atiku Abubakar, ‘You want to be President, what do you have to offer?’ If all the new parties give us one candidate, that person is likely to win because the youths have about 20 million votes. They have the votes but they are not using it.

With the picture of a troubled country you have created, how do you sleep every night knowing the problems are still there?

I just tell myself I have to manage. It is an issue that have been engaged with in the last 40 years. I think about it every day.   At a point I was happy that what we did had a result. Incidentally under the military, it was easy to confront them because the line was clear. But now we have politicians who are the worst thing that has ever happened to this country. To be honest with you, if you go to Nigerians and say ‘what is your problem?’

They will say the usual thing: Hunger, no job, etc. But if you tell them, ‘let us remove the word, democracy, and bring back the military’. You would be very surprised that Nigerians will ask for the China model of government. Do you think China is practicing democracy? I sometimes ask myself this question. Is democracy really the answer?
]General Gowon is 84 years old now. If he were to drive round Lagos, he will ask himself, ‘what is new?’   He was in power 45 years ago. Lagos is essentially what Gowon did.   The structure of Lagos has not altered. We have not seen new massive residential buildings, factories, employment, energy, etc. Where is the 40 years of post Gowon government?   In the pocket of politicians!   How can you have one man called Bola Tinubu remaining in power since 1999? He is my very good friend, but I criticise him. This is a city of 25 million people, how can you have one man running Lagos?

You sound as if you prefer the military government. Are you calling for a military takeover?

The military will be laughing at us now. All the generals would be saying now, ‘They (Nigerians) thought that everything will be alright when they drove us back into the barrack’. The truth is that civilians are more corrupt that the military. If you know the level of corruption in this country, you will not eat. The challenge is, how do we respond? Sincerely I don’t have the answer.   I have tried all.

How do you compare law practice and the quality of lawyers we have now to back then when you

We are dealing with legal failure. If a man has heart failure, what happens next?   Death of course! The Nigeria legal system is dead. It does not exist. What we do every day in court is a charade. We just play out a charade. We put on our wigs and go to court, nothing is happening in our legal system.

Some people have also blamed lawyers for being part of the problem. Politicians steal money and lawyers defend them in court. As a lawyer, what determines the type of case you take?

As a lawyer, when we were in law school, we were trained about the law. In the university, you are trained about the theory of law. So in law school, an answer was given to this question you asked. It is called the Cab Rank Rule. So if you get to the taxi park, if you go to the first taxi, he is bound to carry you. He cannot say no, even if he discovers that you are going on a five naira journey.   So in law practice, we have adapted the English procedure called Cab Rank Rule. You must take all the clients that come to you. You are bound to play by the rules. The job of a lawyer is not to lie in court on behalf of his client.

]The job of a lawyer is to present his client’s case.   Unfortunately, Nigerian lawyers have deviated… Years back, I defended a guy on death row, he had been sentenced to death but it was clear to me that the circumstance causing the death was purely accidental. His friend had just been promoted in his office and there was drinking and, while they were arguing, he casually threw a fork and it hit his friend on a soft part of his brain and he just died. So clearly, he didn’t intend it. I didn’t see him as a murderer; so I took up the case.[

Today someone will ask, would I defend a politician who has stolen money?   The answer is yes. A lawyer who defends a politician who has stolen money should not go to court to say this man has not stolen money when it is obvious that he has. But the man is entitled under the law to a day in court. It is the lawyer’s duty to present his client’s case. Unfortunately, lawyers have now gotten a bad name because we are roped into the crime. They say we are the ones causing delays.

Generally, I try not to take corruption cases. I don’t think I have done any corruption case which is not to say that if someone came to me, I will say no. I am bound to as a lawyer. Let us take (former Governor) Ayodele Fayose for instance

If he had contacted me, I might defend him. But I am not going to tell the court whether he is complicit or not. That is not my job. My job is to advise him on how he should conduct himself in court. If the evidence is so overwhelming, there is nothing I can do. Unfortunately, lawyers have gotten enmeshed that they are seen as not offering legal service. They are seen as accomplices.

The traffic situation has practically sent every company out of Apapa. Why are you still here? The situation in Apapa is horrible but I am not going to be defeated by running away. The situation here can’t break my spirit. I have other means. I have a bigger office in Ikoyi. I come here by boat sometimes. But to say that as a result of the ineptitude of government, I hereby close down my office, no, I won’t do that. We are surviving.

How did Apapa get this bad?

Bad government! It is a result of a government that is not thinking. When the colonial powers were here, they were here because we had natural resources. Apapa was essentially an export port. Since 1960, we have expanded our import trade. Even the colonial masters can’t believe the level of traffic coming to Apapa.

]It got so bad that a task force was set up to decongest Apapa of cement. That was the time a right thinking would have said ‘no, this cannot happen. We have to do things differently’.   If you study the movement of cargo, you will find that a lot of them end up in the (South) East. Seven out of 10 containers end up in the East. The reason Apapa is congested in not because of the bad road, it is overwhelmed. We need feeder ports. The feeder routes by train to the port are no longer there, so the only way anything can be evacuated is by trucks.

It is not about repairing the roads, there is large logistic issue. We need to unbundle Apapa. We need to apply what I call the multimodal facet logistic approach where the train and tank farm and the port are connected.

If you go to Dubai, as small as it is, it feeds 4.2 billion people in a bloc called the Middle-East North African bloc. You won’t find traffic there. Everything is so well distributed. It tells you the type of leadership we have.   Every day we have a new transport minister. They talk but do nothing. That is the helplessness we find ourselves in.

The Vice-President visited Apapa recently announced a long and short plan to tackle the problem there. How do you assess the measures so far put in place?
I was actually lucky to have been seated close to Jumoke who is his Senior Special Adviser on Economic Affairs.   I told her that this problem can be resolved in a holistic approach which I just described to you. I said, ‘Let us first start with the low hanging fruits-the ones you can pluck. Fix the road within six weeks and create a very strict order of truck movement’.[ There are two problems. The main problem is the policy one. The second one is the logistic one. Misbehaviour!   I feel sorry for those truck drivers. Some of them stay one month on the road inside their trucks. So if you have the Vice President flying to Apapa to see things for himself, what he should have done is to constitute a strong task force that would insist that if you come without being called, your truck will be seized. If you do that for seven days, everybody will fall in line.

]So, sometimes, the rules will be enforced; at other times those charged with the enforcement will relax. There was a particular naval officer that was in charge at a time. He was a no-nonsense man. While he was there, Apapa moved freely. Immediate he left, the chaos returned. The third part is sitting on the road all in the name of constructing it. This is something they should have done in six weeks. The guys doing the construction are working at their own pace. Nobody is supervising them. You remember when Abuja International Airport was closed and everyone had to go through Kaduna. Because the big men were directly affected, Julius Berger finished and delivered it in six weeks. Apapa can be done in six weeks. It is just laying of concrete. The slab are all there but the workers are doing nothing. I blame the incompetent President Buhari government for what is happening in Talking about President Buhari’s government, how do you assess his four years in office?
This government is totally bad. I am not in government but I can take them at their face value. They promised us three things: Strong war on corruption, strong economy and national security. Which one have they done well? None? With all the loans they have taken for security, Boko Haram is still waxing strong. They are still kidnapping and killing

The national security architecture is obsolete, laughable and a disgrace. I concede that Boko Haram is sort of quiet now, but it is still there. It has gone down in a more dangerous way. I rather fight with an enemy I can see than a guerrila I cannot see. Boko Haram has entered into the system. I am not going to give them pass mark on security. Corruption is zero. I thought an anti-corruption programme would mean that they would conduct it in a clear way. After you build a strategy, there is supposed to be an institution that can deliver it. But you can see that the Attorney-General and the EFCC are not in good terms.

The President recently issued a travel ban on persons being investigated for corruption. Was that I think the ban was unnecessary. Most of the people on that list are already in court. Some don’t even have passports. So why ban them when their passports are already with the court. What government needs to do is to strengthen the institutions responsible for ensuring their conviction.

Some state judiciaries recently announced a new civil procedure rule. You were at the venue of the review for that of Lagos State. What is your assessment of the new rule?
]I applaud the Lagos State Judiciary for being proactive. I have actually been instrumental to some of the reforms in the state judiciary. The state has done largely well in terms of reforms and innovations. Having said that, let me say that no Nigerian Chief Judge has any understanding of how to run a modern court.   Not a single one. Court administration has gone so far. Administration of justice is different from administration of court.

The substantial cause of delay is on the way the courts are run. It is archaic. Everything is still paper form. If the courts are open 24/7, it changes everything. So in my room after I have filed my claim form for my client, I file it online. I just pay.   I can’t file a claim now at 4 pm because the courts would have closed. Court does not close. When the court is open, there will be more work done. Again the courts need to be supported with artificial intelligence. Judges now need to understand that they are case managers.

They have the power to control the court. But they are still timid and then pass the blame on lawyers. When a lawyer sees that a judge is firm, he will sit up. Am I a judge? Can I give myself adjournment? If a lawyer insists on an adjournment and the judge also insists that if he wants adjournment, he must pay N100, 000, the lawyer will sit up. The attitude again is not in who is leading but in our judicial culture. In arbitration, there are no rules. But there is nobody who is going to arbitration to ask for adjournment. That is because we all have arbitration sense that it must be flexible. What particularly the Lagos State Judiciary is doing is good but I will like the judge’s mindset to change. Why must a judge spend six hours reading a judgement when he can just mail it to parties? There is no rule or law anywhere that says that judge must read their judgments.
You portray an image of someone who is always articulate. Can you recall any embarrassing moment in your career?
There has never been a time when I had an embarrassing moment.   I told myself very early in life that law requires hard work and the only way you can impress your client is to be well prepared. I have never for once been caught off guard.

He said this on Saturday when leaders of the state ADC formally presented Isiaka and his running mate, Mrs Olabisi Okeowo-Bolade, to him at the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library, Abeokuta.

Obasanjo, who described Isiaka as a “good, credible and worthy candidate” to govern the state in 2019, said he believed in him to succeed the incumbent governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun.

The Chairman of the ADC in the state, Dr Gbolade Osinowo, presented the candidates for Senate, House of Representatives and state House of Assembly of the party to the former president.

Obasanjo said the Ogun West zone must be allowed to produce the next governor in 2019 in the spirit of equity, fairness and justice.

He said:

“I am happy that today, you are presenting to me a candidate of the party and a candidate who is worthy of being a candidate. What do you expect me to say if not to say this is my son in whom I am well pleased? He is a man who has ears and he listens. When he gets there, he will be grateful.
“You don’t have to leave any stone unturned. You may have somebody who is opposed to you.

That is normal. But you have no enemy because you need all hands on deck to do what needs to be done in this state when you become the governor.
“Don’t quarrel or fight with anybody. You have what others will envy. Wherever I go, I will say the ADC in Ogun State has a good and credible product. Just give it a try and you will be pleasantly surprised.”

Earlier in his address, the state ADC chairman said the ruling All Progressives Congress and opposition Peoples Democratic Party had failed the state, adding that they were currently divided and could not guarantee good and purposeful governance.,

Morning Devotional For Sunday 11th November

RHAPSODY OF REALITIES

SUNDAY, 11TH NOVEMBER.

BE CONSCIOUS OF YOUR ABILITY IN CHRIST.

Not that we are sufficient of ourselves to think any thing as of ourselves; but our sufficiency is of God (2 Corinthians 3:5).

2 Corinthians 4:7 says, “But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellency of the power may be of God, and not of us.” The power at work in you is divine; it’s got nothing to do with how physically endowed or naturally intelligent you are. The reason you can do anything, be anything, and prosper in whatever you do is the ability of Christ in you. He’s the power at work in you. Philippians 2:13 says, “For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure.”

Therefore, when circumstances place a demand on you, don’t say, “I’m not sure I can do this,” even if it’s something for which you think you’re not naturally able; by the Holy Ghost, you can do all things! Become conscious of this reality. Always declare, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” Christ in you is your strength for success in any endeavour, and your assurance of victory in the face of adversities.

Christ in you is everything! His presence in you makes you supernatural; He strengthens you with might in your inner man; that means no weakness in your life. Before you received the Holy Spirit, you may have been weak and timid, easily discouraged, but now you’re turned on from within by His divine power! You’re bold and courageous, audacious in faith, with power over crises.

Become conscious that you’re not alone; 1 John 4:4 says, “Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.” No matter the challenges you might face in life, you can chew them up; you have Christ’s ability to face whatever comes out against you and win. When you face oppositions, you’re not to rely on or boast in your human ability, but in the life of Christ within.
Make up your mind to live triumphantly every day, and do big things for the Lord, for He’s granted you the ability of Christ.

CONFESSION

My sufficiency is of God, who has lavishly endowed me with tremendous abilities and uncanny skills to make me fit for any task. He’s the One at work in me both to will and to do of His good pleasure. Therefore, I can do all things through Christ that strengthens me!

FURTHER STUDY:

Ephesians 3:20 Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us,

Galatians 2:20 AMPC I have been crucified with Christ [in Him I have shared His crucifixion]; it is no longer I who live, but Christ (the Messiah) lives in me; and the life I now live in the body I live by faith in (by adherence to and reliance on and complete trust in) the Son of God, Who loved me and gave Himself up for me.

Philippians 4:13 I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.

#AFFIRMATIONTRAIN
11TH NOVEMBER .

I affirm that the favour of the Lord is at work in me in an increasing measure. My heart is full of joy because this is my month of celebrating my riches. The Word of the God is in my heart and in my mouth today, and I prevail in all my endeavours, knowing that the power of God in my spirit gives me the boldness to surmount any adversity! I am lifted and transported by the Holy Ghost into the glorious and higher realms of life, where I only see and relate with the realities of the Kingdom.

The zeal for the things of the Spirit and for the expansion of God’s Kingdom has consumed me. I am a burning and a shining light; I am fervent in spirit, serving the Lord, putting on righteousness as a breastplate, with my feet shod with the preparation of the Gospel of peace. I am full of passion for extraordinary impact with the Gospel. I am a true and dependable minister of the Gospel, an ambassador of Christ.

I am effective today in turning many to righteousness, and from darkness to light, through the power of the Holy Spirit that is at work in me mightily. I shine as a star forever, because I am a soul winner; touching and impacting my world with blessings. Glory to God. Hallelujah!

Stop Hate Speech, Peter Obi Tells El-rufai
User Avatar Forum: General Discussion
Posted by: Edoman - 11-11-2018, 06:50 AM - No Replies

Quote:Tony Okafor , Awka

The Vice Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party , Mr. Peter Obi , on Saturday asked governor Nasir El Rufai of Kaduna State to stop making inflammatory statements that could incite hate amongst Nigerians.

Obi was reacting to El Rufai’ s tweet that Obi is “ a tribal bigot . ”

El Rufai had tweeted that Obi stopped him from moving around Anambra State during the governorship election in the State in 2010 .

But Obi while answering questions from journalists on the matter at a youth programme in Nnewi , Anambra State, said he was shocked to read such an outburst of hate from El Rufai , especially when “the statement came unprovoked .

He said , “ This is suggesting that it was what he sat down to think of rather than thinking about how to solve the many problems plaguing the country.

“ What His Excellency , Gov . Nasir Ahmad El Rufai said about me has been brought to my attention . I believe that as we grow older and are saddled with more responsibilities, we are expected to become circumspect in our thinking and avoid recklessness in our speeches and utterances .

“ How does the circumstance he referred to relate to bigotry to warrant such a label?
“ All I do for people like El Rufai is to pray for them and encourage them to concentrate on doing those things that will better the lots of Nigerians rather than engage in hate speeches that will divide and destroy the country.

“ At this difficult times in our country, when thousands of our brothers and sisters across ethnic divide are killed all over the country, including innocent citizens in Kaduna state ; millions of our children from all the parts of the country are out of school ; millions of Nigerian youths from all the parts of the country are without jobs, our pre - occupation , especially among those that are in government should not be making reckless speeches .

“ What our leaders should be doing today is seeking solutions to the numerous problems of our dear country.

“ I am aware that during the said election he referred to , security agents merely restricted his movement because he had no business being in Anambra as I would not have been in Kaduna on an election day. ”

The former governor of Anambra State advised Nigerians, especially those in positions of authority , to avoid what he called “ the dominance of the vice of hate” over the virtues of love in whatever they do.

Oshiomhole Returns To Nigeria, Speaks On Encounter With DSS
User Avatar Forum: News
Posted by: Edoman - 11-10-2018, 10:21 PM - Replies (2)

Quote:Adams Oshiomhole, national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has given an insight on why he was quizzed by operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS).

TheCable on Friday reported that he was en route to Nigeria after visiting his indisposed wife, Iara, in the US, and subsequently meeting Bola Tinubu, APC national leader, in the UK.

The APC chairman travelled out of the country after he was interrogated by the DSS over allegations of collecting bribe during his party’s primary elections.

Speaking during an interaction with editors in Lagos on Saturday, Oshiomhole said he “saw DSS only once and it was a conversation, not an arrest or detention”.

He said: “The conversation centred around APC primaries. The question now is whether or not it is the DSS job to interfere in a political party’s issues. And if there’s an allegation of corruption, it is the responsibility of EFCC and ICPC.”

The former governor of Edo noted that the DSS did not ask him to return the next day, contrary to media reports.

Oshiomhole said he was billed to travel abroad on Monday but postponed the trip for a meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari. He said he eventually left the country on Tuesday.

Furthermore, the APC chairman said he was not released on administrative bail, adding that Yahaya Bello, governor of Kogi, did not come to pick him up from the DSS office.

He said: “I was the one who called Yahaya Bello and he came but I drove home in my own car.”

Oshiomhole lashed out at the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for calling on Interpol to arrest him, and for insinuating that he had fled the country over the matter.

He said: “What would they have said if it was the PDP chairman that was invited by DSS, for instance over the dollar bazaar at their Port Harcourt primary?

“They would have said democracy is under threat and would have fired a letter to the UN as they often ridicule themselves.”

The former labour leader alleged that “a few important members of APC may be conniving with PDP because they preferred the impunity of the PDP era”.

Governors Rochas Okorocha of Imo and Ibikunle Amosun of Ogun are aggrieved over the APC primaries. They blame Oshiomhole for their inability to get the gubernatorial tickets of the party for their preferred candidates.

Amosun has said he does not have a hand in Oshiomhole’s invitation by the DSS.

Upon enquiries, eyewitness account said they discovered that the doors were flung open while all the side glasses were rolled down and the belongings of the occupants were scattered inside the vehicle.

Efforts to contact any of the occupants in the vehicle according to the source remained futile since then.

Wives, children of the victims, party members and their friends across political party divides stormed the lkare police station yesterday wearing long faces.

Contacted, the state police image maker, Femi Joseph, confirmed the abduction of the party chieftains.

Joseph said that police detectives have been deployed to the scene of the crime.

“We are on top of the situation. The Police Commissioner, Gbenga Adeyanju, has deployed detectives to smoke out the criminals.

“We would soon get the victims freed and unhurt by the special grace of God.”

A man was left red faced after his magic stunt went horribly wrong during performance in Lagos. It was gathered that the man swallowed a snake while performing a magic stunt and found it difficult to pull it out right there in public.

A trending video making the rounds online shows the moment the man who wore red and black attire - forced the snake out of his mouth all to no avail. He even tried by coughing vigorously but still couldn't bring out the snake from his mouth

While he continued with different styles to pull out the reptile, others who had gathered to watch the magic, looked on including passersby and motorists. Watch the video below.

This is Fayose's Opinion. What do you think?

Quote:Nigerians made the mistake of handing over the country to a man who failed in managing his own small business, that mistake must not be repeated next year. A man who couldn't make his cows to increase cannot cause the fortune of a nation to increase.

Armed Robber Gunned Down, Items Recovered After Shootout With SARS. Photos

An armed robber lost his life in a gun duel with operatives of the Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad (FSARS) in Ogun just as the remaining four gang members escaped by the whiskers, but not without trails of gun-shot injuries...

The gangsters had, according to the Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, invaded a building of twelve flats within the Ibara Housing Estate in Abeokuta metropolis.

The fully armed robbers were said to had stormed the building at about 1:00am today, Friday, November 9, 2018, and were already dispossessing occupants of one of the flats of their valuables when the law of retribution caught up with them.

A co-inhabitant of the robbers-besieged building was said to had sent a distress call to the police, to which the State Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Iliyasu, promptly directed the officer in charge of FSARS, SP Uba Adams, to quickly move to the scene and rescue the situation.

"The operatives of FSARS swiftly moved to the scene and were engaged in a fierce gun battle by the armed bandits, at the end of which one of the gang members was shot dead while others escaped with various degrees of gunshot injuries", the PPRO said .

The Police spokesman further stated in a press release made available to Crimepuzzle that victims of the robbery incident jubilated and praised the operatives of the FSARS for their prompt response to the distress call.

According to him, items recovered at scene comprised GSM handsets, four laptops, computers, wallets and some other valuables, belonging to the residents of the compound.

"Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police (CP), Ahmed Iliyasu, has ordered a massive manhunt for the fleeing members of the gang with the view to bringing them to justice within the shortest possible time. He equally warned criminals to stop testing the Command’s resolve and will-power in crime fighting as they will always meet their waterloo whenever and wherever they operate within the State", the PPRO stated.

'APC has suddenly become the nightmare prospect of a party in disarray and almost in tatters' - Dele Momodu

Read his article below...
Fellow Nigerians, let me state once again that I have never been a member of Nigeria’s ruling party, APC, but I was almost a fanatical supporter of its Presidential flagbearer, Major General Muhammadu Buhari, in the 2015 Presidential election. The reason was simple. We were mostly tired of PDP after wasting loads of opportunities in 16 years. Even hardened members of that Party would readily admit to their myriads of gaffes, faux pas, misfortune and misadventure which seemed uncontrollable over those unfortunate years, particularly in the last days of the Jonathan administration.

Despite our strident pleas for sanity to prevail, the party pressed on with its crass arrogance that it can rule with impunity for eternity. For that reason, we desperately craved a change and the amalgamation, or cocktail, of political parties called APC was forged in that season of the rape of Nigerian people. With PDP’s unrelenting assault on the people despite the emergence of the mega political party called APC, that party became too attractive to ignore or resist and Nigerians openly welcomed the Party and its charismatic leader, General Muhammadu Buhari, as their saviour.

The choice of Buhari was both divine and coincidental. Many of those who had opposed and rejected him as an untouchable entity for various reasons which are now well known were forced to embrace him on his fourth attempt at seeking the Holy Grail of the Nigerian Presidency. Our theory was rather simple or too over-simplistic: the enemy of your enemy is your friend. At any rate, Buhari won and the rest is history.

The meat of the story is that the APC that took over from PDP under four years ago and what was envisaged by most Nigerians to be the beginning of unity of progressive forces has suddenly become the nightmare prospect of a party in disarray and almost in tatters. It is unbelievable that a party that came into power with so much promise and uncommon goodwill has virtually frittered away its humongous equity. It has become very tempting to see APC as a victim of hypnotism and jazz, a truly Nigerian phenomenon that besets some good ventures and deeds. In case you are not familiar with those terms in the Nigerian context, let me explain what I mean in a jiffy.

I don’t know how much of superstitions still exist in our world today, but I think it is still big enough to affect the way we live, in Africa in general, and Nigeria in particular. Everything bad is attributed to evil machinations of the enemies and the devil. It’s so bad that if you have headache, your wicked enemies are said to be squarely responsible. To put it bluntly, someone must have used juju on you. Juju is supposed to be a kind of talismanic weapon capable of having devastating effect on the victim. Almost everyone believes in the efficacy of juju, including those who pretend to be holier than the Pope.

That is why we hear of a lot of Islamic and Christian leaders paying nocturnal visits to the haunts inhabited by alleged practitioners of the dark and arcane art of Juju. Many tend to hate the concept of juju or traditional medicine, but deep down, they still feel it works wonders.

In our days as pioneer JAMBITES at the then University of Ife, from 1978, we decided to funkify the concept of juju or “oogun abenugongo.” As a student of Yoruba language and literature, we studied the cultural aspect of Yoruba in-depth and came to the conclusion that there were esoteric powers that exist with or without our knowledge. In order not to sound crude, we came up with the term jazz. It is difficult to know where it originated from. “You have been jazzed” was a popular cliché on campus. It was a way of telling you things were not normal with you or there is more than meets the eye in your matter. Some powerful enemies are on your case!

The matter of APC thus looks extraordinary. It is difficult not to imagine that APC has been jazzed, hypnotised, mesmerised or spellbound by some powerful, possibly extra-terrestrial forces and influences, walahi. They have apparently learnt no lessons whatsoever from our very recent history and the crisis that rocked PDP and brought it catastrophically to its knees and paved the way for Buhari to become President and the party to gain ascendancy at the centre.

The current situation of APC appears abysmally worse than that of PDP pre-2015, when some influential leaders of PDP left the party and teamed up with others to form APC and then proceeded to work assiduously to change government. I can’t remember PDP breaking up to as many warring groups as there are in APC today. It is unthinkable that a ruling party facing major elections in barely three months from now would engage in this stultifying war of attrition. This is why many have come to the conclusion that some juju men and fetish women are working hard on bringing the APC government down at the polls next year.

Whenever the APC hardliners get some sober moment for reflection, they should please consider the following. It is doubtful if the APC has gained new members substantially since it came to power in 2015. As a matter of fact, it seems the party has lost control in many States of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

I have never seen members of a political party descend so viciously and violently against its party Chairman like they have done, and doing, to my former Governor, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, who was only recently overwhelmingly supported, by the Governors of APC, as Party Chairman. No sooner than he took power than the bubbles began to burst. At the point Comrade came on board, it was as if the former Chairman, Chief John Odigie Oyegun was the arch-enemy of the party he had helped nurture from infancy. Oshiomhole was the much needed angel of mercy and life-saver.

Uncle Adams settled in quickly, but not before he had fired darts at those he considered internal saboteurs. He embarked on a reconciliation process of party chieftains, an exercise at which the national leader of the party, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, had only just recently appeared to have failed woefully. Even Comrade Adams was unable to bring any camaraderie to the process and his undoubted efforts were not enough to stop party chieftains in the Senate, House of Representatives and Governors of some states from making a wholesale departure from the party that had suddenly become afflicted with the plague of carpet-crossing and defection. Whilst we thought that the party would quickly heal its near mortal wounds and come together in a show of unity we were to have our hopes dashed as very quickly the messianic party seemed to unravel like a ball of wool.

The crux of the matter was the party primaries which has led almost to a fatal implosion in the party. No zone appears to have been spared in this folly apart from the North Central zone of the country.

Perhaps the State that best demonstrates the massive problems facing the party in terms of a total lack of cohesion is Adamawa State, in the North East of the country, where the Wife of the President, Mrs Aisha Buhari sought to install her younger brother, Mahmood Halidu, as the Governorship candidate of the Party for the State. She lamented the lack of transparency and deceny in the conduct of the party primaries which had been manipulated to give automatic tickets to anointed candidates despite the fact that other candidates had been encouraged to purchase nomination forms at exorbitant prices.

She declared that this was not in consonance with the party’s change mantra or the perception of the new national chairman of the party, comrade Adams, who should have stood for the common man and fairness. She ended her homily to the party faithful by urging them to “vote wisely”, an apparent indictment of her husband’s party. It is a sad state of affairs when the President cannot hold the home front and the “other room” just months before the election and the condemnation of the party by the Wife of the President speaks volumes about the unity and preparation of the party for these pivotal elections.

Another calamity arose from the party primaries in Zamfara State in the North West Zone of the country. The situation got so bad that INEC declared that no primaries had been held in accordance with its guidelines and that no candidate of the APC would be eligible to contest the forthcoming elections for that reason. This position remains complicated and it is distressing that a party in power could not get its act together in such a crucial state and that by virtue of the intransigence of its party members in Zamfara State the PDP as the other leading party would clearly waltz its way into all the elective pisitions including that of governor, in that State. What a crying shame!

Also, in the North Western State of Kaduna, there is intra party feuding between the incumbent Governor, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, and Senator Shehu Sani. The Senator had been in a running battle with theGovernor for a long time, but matters came to a boil with the conduct of the party primaries which naturally was skewed in favour of the Governor. The Senator who had stuck by the party when the gale of defections decimated the party’s ranks decided that enough was enough! He asserted that honour, integrity and internal democracy which he had believed would be the ethos and norm of the parry had been jettisoned and for this reason he resigned and has now joined the People’s Redemption Party to contest the election as the gubernatorial candidate of that party.

The misfortune that has befallen the APC arising form the party primaries is not limited to the Northern part of the country alone. The same situation has been replicated in equally pronounced form in Imo State in the South East Zone, Rivers State in the South South Zone and Ogun State in the South West Zone.

In Imo State, the incumbent Governor, Rochas Okorocha, who is completing his second term in office decided that he would only hand over the mantle of Governor of the State to his son-in-law, Ugwumba Uche Nwosu rather than Senator Hope Uzodinma who is the preferred choice of the National Executive and the acclaimed winner of the party primaries. The National Secretariat kicked against this contending that Rochas himself had already been handed an automatic ticket as a Senatorial candidate of the party.

There was no justification for imposing his son-in-law on the people of Imo State and the party has stuck to its guns. Naturally, Rochas has been insistent, pouring acidic vituperation and invective on the party executive and particularly the national chairman, Adams Oshiomole. However, it is noteworthy that the impasse has continued with the submission of the party’s candidates for elections into State offices and no candidate has been presented to INEC as APC Governorship candidate for Imo State.

Perhaps nowhere has the battle line between the party executive and an incumbent Governor been more starkly drawn than in Ogun State, in the South West of Nigeria. There Senator Ibikunle Amosun who is, like Okorocha, serving out his second term embroiled in a royal titanic battle with Prince Dapo Abiodun, billionaire business magnate and chairman of the Corporate Affiars Commission as to who will succeed Amosun as Governor of the State. Whist Abiodun has the full backing of Oshiomole and the party executive and ostensibly won the party primaries conducted by the National executive and observed by INEC, Amosun is standing staunchly in support of Hon. Abdulkadir Adekunle Akinlade, a federal legislator representing Ogun State in the House of Representatives.

Akinlade, who had initially been declared as the APC consensus gubernatorial candidate by Amosun, subsequently won a direct primary election organised by the State Executive of the Party with the Secretary to the State Government, Taiwo Adeoluwa, as the Chief Returning Officer. The insults, slurs and vitriol emanating from both camps are simply too venomous and considering these are members of the same party, the damage to the party is best left to the imagination. Abiodun and Oshiomole seem to have prevailed as it is Abiodun’s name that has been announced by INEC.

The debacle has reached comical proportions with some APC governors accusing Oshiomhole of fraud and corruption and the DSS which is in the control of the party arresting, detaining and questioning him over these allegations. Oshiomhole upon release travelled to the UK although his return to the country is said to be imminent.

Again, we pray that APC finds its mojo and resolves these intractable differences otherwise its fortunes will be non-existent at the polls next year.

Governor Dankwambo's Junior Brother And 2000 Supporters Dump PDP For APC

Ahead of 2019 general elections , about 2000 supporters of People Democratic Party in Gombe State have defected to the All Progressives Congress APC in the State including by the younger brother of Governor Ibrahim Dankwambo

Buhari Dankwambo came after the failed efforts of his brother and some political bigwigs to convince to remain in remain in the PDP .

Our correspondent learned that Buhari Dankwambo, until his defection, had been under pressure from different quarters to reverse his decision. It was gathered that he was given juicy offers but he rejected them.

A source closed to the government said the efforts to stop Dankwambo from moving to APC was not because of his political relevance but because it will be embarrassing for the blood brother of a sitting governor who is aspiring to be the president of Nigeria to decamped to an opposition party.

“Obviously something is wrong ; it shows that the governor is not capable of managing situations around him , ” the source said .

“We felt we could manage the situation but unfortunately it was above our ability,” the source said, refusing to tell our correspondent details of what transpired, simply saying, “The governor takes the highest proportion of the blame in the whole act .”

Our correspondent gathered that Dankwambo was formally presented with his membership card by the chairman of his Ajiya ward in Gombe North constituency after he registered. Our correspondent further learnt that his supporters will also join him in APC when he is formally presented to the state leadership of the party at a grand reception in Gombe , the state capital.

In a telephone interview with newsmen Buhari Dankwambo, said that he decided to join APC because the PDP was not fair to him.

“Some people in the PDP have decided not to be fair to me ,” he said . “Since PDP cannot accommodate me I decided to move to the APC to pursue my political ambition.”

Quitting APC is like leaving Boko Haram territory - Shehu Sani
Saturday, November 10, 2018 politics

Human rights activist and senator representing Kaduna Central in the National Assembly, Shehu Sani, speaks on his recent defection from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to the People Redemption Party (PRP), the politics against his automatic ticket in the ruling party and how he and other lawmakers and governors were “betrayed,” the integrity of President Muhammadu Buhari, and the APC leadership which is brewing crisis in the party and other issues of national interest.

Recently, you announced your defection to the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), apparently because your former party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), did not give you an automatic return ticket to the National Assembly. What exactly informed that decision, which many felt was belated?

My decision to join the APC initially was founded on the fact that at that very time, APC was the only viable alternative to dislodge the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and restore good governance in Nigeria and rescue our democracy.

It was a fact that Nigeria was on the edge of collapse, democratically.

It was looted and raped. It was almost destroyed by a decade and half of misrule, mis-governance and pervasive corruption.

At that time when we joined the APC, it was our belief that the nation would achieve and bring an end to the pervasiveness, collapse of the economy and a complete anarchy that enveloped our nation.

The APC came to power with a lot of promises and also raised the hope of Nigerians, especially the fact that we had a person like Muhammadu Buhari as President and his integrity, honesty and commitment to the liberation of this country.

Now, in the last three and half years, we have seen a progressive decline of the party and the integrity ascribed to the President, as the nation has been moving from hope to hopelessness.

We saw the weaknesses of President Muhammadu Buhari and we have seen the rise of a civil force, in the form of a cabal around him that is manipulating the hands of power. We have also seen the vulnerability of the President as a person.

Let us come to specifics. In July, there was an uprising and uproar in the National Assembly emanating from APC legislators, who said they had had it enough and had to move from the APC to PDP. I was part of that scheme at that material time to pull out of APC, but I stayed back for three reasons.

The first has to do with interventions from Adams Oshiomhole, who was then elected the new chairman of the party; from Ahmed Bola Tinubu; and from the President himself.

Specifically, in Oshiomhole, I saw a man who had a track record of unionism and activism and with whom I shared the same story in unionism, in perception and struggle.

So, he gave me all the assurances and I told him that we were getting out of the party because for three consecutive years, we have been at war with the governor of my state, an arrogant and undemocratic governor who has no respect for democratic values and fundamental rights of the people, with whom we differed, both politically and ideologically, despite that we came from the same party.

Oshiomhole and others promised, not just me, but other senators who had similar problems in their states, that they were going to address those very issues and we should remain in the party, giving us assurances.

Well, we have seen that governors within the APC wield so much more power than the pledges and promises that were made, but virtually not fulfilled.

APC moved from being a party to a theatre of war and conflict between its leadership and the governors. We saw the party simply moving in a direction of disaster.

So, for one, we gave them the benefit of doubt. They promised that the primary elections would be direct and as such, they would not be subject to manipulation by anybody.

They also promised that for those of us in the National Assembly, the issues would be resolved and there would be the need for us to remain in the party and save the party.

When the issue of primary elections came, it was very clear that many of the governors were not in favour of direct elections, because the foundation of the crisis in the APC started from Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, with the congresses at ward, local and state levels.

There were no ward congresses in Kaduna; the names of the executives were written by the governor and his aides and given to the Odigie-Oyegun-led National Working Committee (NWC) to put a stamp of authority.

Any genuine politician worthy of himself would not go to stand for a primary election where one person goes into a room in a hotel and writes the names of delegates and submitted them and you want to contest a primary election with that kind of thing?

These were part of the issues we raised and pointed out to the national chairman of the party and he promised that these issues would be remedied by a direct election.

Then, the signs of weaknesses came when Oshiomhole and his colleagues were insisting on direct primaries and governors were saying they would choose the kind of primaries that suit them. Any governor who sought indirect primaries was simply going to use the executives he wrote with his pen to endorse those he wanted and remove those he didn’t want.

Well, the primary election came and we bought forms at exorbitant prices and went for the screening.

Out of all the five aspirants, I was the one who was cleared to contest the Kaduna Central zone senatorial primaries.

So, on the day of the election, the NWC insisted that I was the one that was cleared, so the party was expected to do an affirmation.

But the governor of the state said he did not agree and he moved to the Presidency and Oshiomhole. Governor Nasir El-Rufai spent so much time from Oshiomhole’s office to the Presidency to clear other aspirants and conduct his own kangaroo election.

Later, we learnt that Oshiomhole and the President bow to his own threat, that either they choose him or me. When all these things happened, I then knew that I didn’t have to wait after consulting with my constituency and supporters before I get the result, because I know very well that the President and Oshiomhole reneged on their words.

The APC primaries were one of the greatest political robberies in the 21st Century. The sale of the form was fraudulent, the screening process was dubious and the primary election was a scam. They collected hundreds of millions of naira from gullible aspirants and the screening and primaries, which were shrouded in secrecy, was a disaster.

People were asking why I didn’t leave the party before then and I told them that when most of my colleagues in the National Assembly were leaving the APC, they said they were going home, which is the PDP, but PDP was never my home. I didn’t want to move from APC to PDP, which was never my home.

I decided not to exit the APC at that time because if I had done that then, the people in my constituency would think I had betrayed the President, the party and their mandate.

So, rather than being seen as a betrayer, it was better for them to see me as one who has been betrayed. It is more credible that way. In politics, when you hold a mandate, representing a people, you cannot just take a decision without consultation.

The APC has lost its honour; it has lost its integrity and it has created an atmosphere of chaos. In that last few weeks, you could see the anger, objection, mass protest and bitterness that attended the affairs of the APC. This cannot be the party that will deliver Nigeria to the Promised Land.

Everyone thought that at this time, the APC would have built itself to the point that it will inspire others to emulate it. For example, what is happening in my state, Kaduna, is that there is no APC in Kaduna State; it is simply a franchise of El-Rufai.

In fact, the APC has degenerated to the point that there are three ways you can emerge as a candidate in that party.

Firstly, have a powerful connection within the Presidency, where a short note can be written to the national secretariat with somebody’s name to be removed and replaced with another. Secondly, if you are not in the favour or in the good book of a governor, you cannot have a place. Thirdly, if you can pay your way through, then you consider things done.

Today, the party is an opposite of what progressivism is.

At the earlier stage of defection by your colleagues in the Senate, people expected you to do the same when the ovation was loudest. How is your relationship with them now?

What I want you to know is that you don’t change your party from the National Assembly. It is either you get registered into a party from the ward or you exit the party from the ward. You don’t join a party from the National Assembly or exit the party from the National Assembly.

As far as I am concerned, I don’t want to be seen to leave the party because others were leaving. I represent a people and it is these people that would either say I betray them or not. You live in Kaduna and you go round, you cannot see any person out 10 people or two out of three that would say I betray them or the APC. I didn’t betray the APC.

So, as far as I am concerned, those who are responsible and are seen as betrayers know themselves. It is the interest of my constituency that is of uttermost importance to me. It is where they want me to be that I would be.

I don’t want to leave a party where I would not be able to go back to my house and sleep or would not be able to go to mosque to pray.

But now, my people have seen that the fault didn’t come from me, but from the people they earlier believed in and that gave me the support, peace, sympathy and solidarity to move to the PRP.

I decided to join the PRP because the party and its founding party- NEPU- were the parties of my own parents and my own family. I come from a revolutionary and socialist background.

It is a party that represents our ideological thinking as revolutionaries and socialist. It is not just a party for only acquiring political power, but also a cause and defence for a noble democracy, vehicle and a platform for liberation of the talakawas.

So, my colleagues went home to the PDP and I am also at home with the PRP. Since I left the APC to join PRP, I am so happy with myself. Leaving the APC is like leaving the Boko Haram territory.

The difference between Boko Haram and APC is that in Boko Haram, we have Shekau and in APC, there are so many of them.

Some people argue that the way and manner the APC is handling its affairs internally is the same way the nation is being handled; hence Nigeria has not found its bearing. What is your take on this?

First of all, anybody who says things are working right is only deceiving him/herself or trying to suppress the truth that cannot be suppressed.

There is no doubt that there are some achievements, in terms of completion of projects inherited and in the war against insurgency, but you can see for yourself that this country is more divided than before on ethno-religious lines and there is more nepotism in all ramifications.

Also, Nigerians don’t see the present leadership in the country as a unifying figure. Rather, they see it pursuing sectional agenda.

We have also seen a progressive decline in the sanctity of human lives and protection of fundamental rights of Nigerians under the present government.

There is also the rising level of intolerance and tyrannical behaviours under Buhari’s regime and the complete desecration of democratic values in which the APC government has descended into.

So, what this administration has done is such that by its conduct and character, it has lost its goodwill and by its own division and divisiveness, it has empowered and energised the opposition. The PDP is getting stronger and stronger, despite the blackmail and intimidation from the ruling party.

From 2015 to date, the APC has been on the losing end; it has lost Kwara, Benue, Sokoto and it has lost legislators in the Middle Belt and the overwhelming support it had in the Southwest.

2019: APC Loses Out In Zamfara, Amosun Shut Out Totally In Ogun, Amaechi Triumph

The internal crises that bedeviled the All Progressives Congress, APC primaries brought ill-wind for the party yesterday when the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC finally excluded it from governorship election in Zamfara State.
President Buhari

Party activists in Ogun State were also in shock yesterday after INEC published Dapo Abiodun as the APC’s candidate and excluded all 26 persons fielded by the Governor Ibikunle Amosun led mainstream of the party in the House of Assembly contests. After some distress caused by the exclusion of the party’s candidate in Imo State, hope returned late last night as Vanguard gathered that Senator Hope Uzodinma was published as the governorship candidate for Imo State after INEC had initially dithered upon a court order obtained by the Rochas Okorocha led tendency of the party.

Any bid by the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP to gloat in the distress of the ruling party was cut short when INEC also foisted the candidates of the Buruji Kashamu led tendency on it in Ogun State.

Former presidential spokesman, Dr. Rueben Abati was named as running mate to the PDP governorship candidate, Mr. Lawal Shitu who is aligned to the Buruji faction.

With the publication of the names of governorship and state Houses of Assembly candidates, the three APC governors mostly affected by the derailment of their succession plots were yesterday pondering their options for political relevance within their states.

The three governors are Governors Amosun, Rochas Okorocha of Imo State and Abdulazziz Yari of Zamfara State.

The party was left out of the electoral contest in Zamafara after the party reportedly failed to meet the October 7 deadline for the conduct of its primaries to produce candidates in the state

Uzodinma, Nwosu drama in Imo

The party leadership in Abuja and its candidate in Imo State, Senator Hope Uzodinma were shocked yesterday when INEC published the list of candidates leaving the space for the APC blank. It was, however, clarified last night when Uzodimma’s name was published as the APC candidate.

Senator Ifeanyi Ararume was displayed as the candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA while Chief Emeka Ihedioha was presented as the candidate of the PDP.

The initial exclusion of the APC candidate’s name was attributed to a court order obtained by the Okorocha for INEC to maintain the status quo as concerning the nomination process in the party in the state.
The court order was, however, subsequently discharged by Uzodimma, leading to the publication of his name as the APC candidate. Mr. Uche Nwosu, the son-in-law of Governor Okorocha who is his choice as APC candidate had earlier in the day expressed joy after the space for the APC was left blank yesterday, saying it followed the rule of law.

“I want to thank the National Chairman of INEC, Mahmood Yakubu for adhering to the rule of law by obeying subsisting Court Order as it concerns the Imo APC. I did not know why Oshiomole should insist on changing the name of people that won primary elections with those that never won,” Nwosu had said.

Senator Hope Uzodimma responding through his director of media and special duties, Declan Emelumba said the order obtained by the Okorocha tendency was vacated by 1 p.m. yesterday and served on INEC which he claimed had acknowledged Uzodinma as the authentic candidate.

“That court order they are talking of was obtained from the Federal High Court in Owerri. It was an exparte order and they were to give the ruling today and the court has refused to grant them the order. Definitely Senator Hope Uzodimma, is the candidate of the party in the state.

“First, the only candidate that the APC has submitted is Senator Uzodimma. The INEC, in order not to disobey the court, decided not to paste the name.

“I want to tell you that, the court has vacated the order by 1pm. There is no order, again stopping the publishing of Uzodimma’s name.

“The most important thing is the same order has been vacated by the same court. The ruling was given today (Friday). Our reaction is that the truth is that Uzodimma, is the APC’s candidate.”

Shocker for Amosun in Ogun

There was shock in the camp of Governor Amosun in the APC in Ogun State yesterday after all 26 House of Assembly persons penciled down from the primaries conducted by the party were sidelined in the APC’s list of House of Assembly candidates for the state.

That was besides the fact that the outgoing governor also lost his bid to project his favoured man, Adekunle Akinlade as the APC’s governorship candidate.

The governor and his associates were yesterday pondering their options. The removal of the list of his candidates for the 26 state constituencies it was learnt may have made the defection to the Democratic Peoples Party, DPP inevitable.

His associates refused to speak on the developments when contacted yesterday.
The State Publicity Secretary of the APC, Wole Elegbede said the party in the state has checked the list and confirmed that the 26 names positioned as the party’s state constituency candidates were not those submitted from the state chapter as he refused to entertain further questions.

But, a source who pleaded anonymity said the aggrieved candidates of the party would stay put in the party despite their missing names in the INEC list.

The source said their solace lies on the fact that they would seek the help of judiciary to reclaim their mandate.

According to the source, they had expected the NWC to be honourable and allowed the winners to contest the election and not replacing their names with a different set of people.

Anxiety calmed in Rivers.

Meanwhile anxiety by APC stakeholders in Rivers State especially those aligned to the Rotimi Amaechi led mainstream of the party in the state was calmed yesterday after INEC published Pastor Cole as the candidate of the party in the state.

Cole was published alongside his running mate, Victor Giadom at the INEC office in Port Harcourt just as Governor Nyesom Wike was named as the PDP candidate with his deputy, Dr. Ipalibo Banigo as running mate.

A chieftain of the APC aligned to Senator Magnus Abe who went to court to upend the list of candidates produced by the Amaechi led tendency described the publication of Cole’s name as a temporary victory for the Amaechi side.

“It is no more in our place to banter words with any stakeholder, but I can assure you even INEC knows it is merely playing along. The needful would be done in the end,” he said.

Woman Sues Ex-Boyfriend After His ‘Abnormal Manhood Widened Her Private Part’
User Avatar Forum: Other Stories

Quote:A woman is suing her ex-boyfriend after his “abnormally long” manhood allegedly overstretched her v@gina. Silindile Mangena, 29, is planning to undergo reconstructive surgery after getting intimate with Mugove Kurima, 37.

But she wants Kurima to pay the whopping 150,000 Rand (£8,000) cost of this – and is reportedly taking him to court.

Silindile, of Harare, Zimbabwe, told the Zimbabwe Mail that her private parts were “tight” before she met her ex in 2016.

She said she fell in love even though he was allegedly married at the time.

However, she ended the relationship in May this year after Kurima is alleged to have stretched her v@gina.

It is currently unclear how large Silindile alleges her ex’s manhood is.

The woman will reportedly ask the court – through her lawyers, Dakarai, Masendu and Partners – to force Kurima to pay for reconstructive surgery of her vagina in South Africa.

Kurima is yet to respond to the allegations.

2019 Election: Magnus Abe’s Name Missing In Inec’s Rivers Guber List

The aspiration of Senator Magnus Abe to become the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Rivers State has been dashed.

This is after the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, published the list of governorship candidates for the 2019 election in the state on Friday.

The aspirant produced by the Minister of Transport, Rotimi Amaechi faction of party, Tonye Dele Cole was recognized as the party’s flagbearer by INEC, in the list pasted at its office in Port Harcourt.

A Deputy National Secretary of the APC, Victor Giadom was also published as Cole’s running mate.

Both Cole and Giadom are products of an indirect primary election.

Also shortlisted are Governor Nyesom Wike and Dr (Mrs) Ipalibo Harry as governorship candidate and running mate for the PDP.

Other shortlisted governorship candidates from other political parties in the State are: Elem Chinweike for Hope Democratic Party, HDP, Joseph Princewill for MPN, Tamunopriala Jumbo for PDC, Ngoye Benebo for UPN, and Kukang Barine for APM.

RHAPSODY OF REALITIES

SATURDAY, 10TH NOVEMBER.

THE PRAYER THAT WORKS.

But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking (Matthew 6:7).

Sometimes, you find Christians who say, “I need powerful prayers; so please, pray a powerful prayer for me.” But what’s a powerful prayer anyway? What makes a prayer powerful? Is it the loudness of the voice of the one praying, or is it because they’re speaking religious words? Well, what you need isn’t a “powerful” prayer, but a simple prayer to a powerful God.

The Lord Jesus, in our opening verse, said that when you pray, you shouldn’t act like the heathen who use vain, repetitive words. They erroneously think they’ll be heard for their much speaking; Jesus said we shouldn’t pray like that. Read His words: “Be not ye therefore like unto them: for your Father knoweth what things ye have need of, before ye ask him” (Matthew 6:8).

Learn to pray like Jesus; He prayed and acted simply. Imagine the simple way He prayed at the tomb of Lazarus. The Bible says, “…And Jesus lifted up his eyes, and said, Father, I thank thee that thou hast heard me. And I knew that thou hearest me always: but because of the people which stand by I said it, that they may believe that thou hast sent me. And when he thus had spoken, he cried with a loud voice, Lazarus, come forth” (John 11:41-43).

What makes prayer work is faith, and not the multitude or multiplicity of words. Jesus made this very clear in Mark 11:24: “Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them.”
Therefore, make your prayers simple; pray with faith, and avoid vain repetitions.

When you pray in other tongues, your spirit, by the Holy Spirit, prays according to the will of God. That’s primarily the way you ought to pray as a Christian: pray with the spirit first; that is, in tongues, before you pray with your understanding, your natural earthly language. “What is it then? I will pray with the spirit, and I will pray with the understanding also: I will sing with the spirit, and I will sing with the understanding also” (1 Corinthians 14:15).

PRAYER

I declare that my faith is effectual. Therefore, I effect necessary changes in my life and circumstances by the power of the Holy Spirit and with the Word, in the Name of the Lord Jesus. Amen.

FURTHER STUDY:

Philippians 4:6 Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.

Luke 18:1 And he spake a parable unto them [to this end], that men ought always to pray, and not to faint;

James 5:14-16 Is any sick among you? let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord: 15 And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he have committed sins, they shall be forgiven him. 16 Confess [your] faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.

#AFFIRMATIONTRAIN

10TH NOVEMBER.

I affirm that this is my season and time; I am celebrating my riches generously! Today, I magnify the Lord who, not only has blessed me but has also made me a channel of blessing.

Through the Gospel, I’ve been given the opportunity to give and secure my future. As I sow my seeds in faith according to the Word, I receive a bountiful harvest of blessings and miracles both now, and in the days to come. Hallelujah. The grace of God abound towards me, and I am divinely enabled to give big towards Kingdom expansion! My seeds are multiplied even as I give today. I give lavishly, and my capacity to give increases continually.

Money has no choice but to gravitate towards me because I am an heir of God and a joint heir with Christ. The blessing of the Lord is at work in me, and I am fruitful and productive in every good work. I can never be disadvantaged; for the lines are fallen unto me in pleasant places, and I have a goodly heritage. Blessed be God. Hallelujah!

A Jos-based public affairs analyst and commenter identified as Davidson took to Facebook to share photos of victims killed that led to the killing of Major Alkali.According to him, they were killed few days before some bad ones blocked the road and killed Major Alkali. He wrote....

'In the flurry of activities that led to the sad but cold blooded murder of Gen Alkali Idris at Dura- Du, we may forget to mourn and commiserate with some families there too that are still grieving the murder of their loved ones who were mowed down by armed killers in a Gestapo style a few days before some bad ones blocked the road and killed Alkali reprehensibly.

They also deserved to be buried with honor by having a high-powered condolence visit to their families and also their families would wish to see that their killers, like that of the late General, were unearthed and arrested as well.

Rest in peace dear friends and neighbors'

I was also told that men of the DSS are still waiting for him to return to Nija. They want to keep questioning him till he vomits what he ate and what he did not eat, even including his intestine. Haba! They want to use his proud eyes to scratch ground (won fe fi oju e gbo le).

One of the Irunmales told me in confidence that you are the one he (Oshiomhole) offended. I asked the offence he committed and I was told he dared you, telling you that he will remove you from the position that Allah (Subhanahu wa ta'ala)

For this, angry 777 Alfas in Ilorin are still reporting him to Allah (Subhanahu wa ta'ala). Also, some of your supporters took his matter to Oke Sobi (Sobi Hill) and Odo Oyun (River Oyun).

For Adams Aliyu Oshiomhole, things have fallen apart, the center is no longer holding and he is no longer at ease. They said he ran to USA to cool his hot head and to at least have small erection for that his yellow pawpaw wife that a certain Agbegilere known as Rochas Okorocha has been using koloro eyes to look.

I am beginning to have pity on the man, especially because of his only foreign investment.

I am therefore begging you to forgive and forget. Aimo lo nse Aliyu. He thought he was still an Obioma in the labour union.

My Distinguished Senate President, I am on my bended knees, please forgive Adams Aliyu Oshiomhole. Kindly instruct those Ilorin Alfas to stop reminding Allah his sins.

Omo Baba Oloye, tell your supporters to appeal to those gods of Odo Oyun and Oke Sobi, beg Afonja omo Morilewa and Shehu Alimi to forgive Adams Aliyu Oshiomhole. He must have learnt his lessons and he will never be rude to his seniors again.

I am sure when he returns from where he ran to, he will come to you to apologise properly and probably bring nkan etutu (objects for sacrifice) and tuuba for the people of Ilorin Afonja o ni Quran.

PIC; Hospital Attendant And Herbalist Arrested For Stealing Baby’s Placenta In Kwara
User Avatar Forum: Other Stories
Posted by: Edoman - 11-09-2018, 01:52 PM - No Replies

A hospital attendant, Fatima Suleiman, and a herbalist, Salaudeen Ibrahim, have been arrested for stealing a new born baby’s placenta on October 31, 2018, at Capstone Hospital, Ilorin, Kwara State.

The state Police Commissioner, Kofowora Bolaji, said “upon successful surgery, the doctor handed over the placenta to Fatima to give to the father of the baby, but she instead sold it to Alfa Salaudeen Ibrahim to use for charm.”

During an interview with newsmen, Ibrahim said: “I read Islamic Studies from the Al-Hikmah University, Ilorin. I graduated in 2016. A month ago, she came to me to ask if baby placenta can be used for ritual purposes and I answered in the affirmative. .

And that was the last thing I discussed with her. And she left. Because she is an attendant in a hospital she told me that some people would leave their baby placentas for them to throw away.

Later, I had even forgotten and she came with one about five days ago. She dropped the placenta, after her departure something told me to call her to come and take it away, and that I would not do the ritual. .

I called her to come and pick it away she refused to, not until she called me that the incident had been reported at the police station. Not to be implicated, I packed the placenta and threw into a nearby river. I thought, with that, I would get myself out of trouble but here am I.”

On her own part, the hospital attendant said: “He did not hand over any amount of money to me, but he told me to help him get baby placenta since the wife is my friend. It is because of my closeness to the wife that is why I acceded to his request.

This is the first time I would engage in such nefarious activity. When I called him the story had taken a twist. He said he had thrown into the river. He added that the placenta would not be efficacious as the baby was delivered via caesarian section (CS).”

Man Takes Home Male Disguised As A Woman From Abuja Nightclub
User Avatar Forum: Other Stories
Posted by: Edoman - 11-09-2018, 12:18 PM - Replies (1)

Quote:An Abuja, man who was looking for sex, got the shock of his life when the partner he went home with turned out to be a 22-year-old man, who disguised as a woman.

Iliyasu Omika of Tungan Maje was picked up at a brothel in Mpape area of the Federal Capital Territory by the unidentified man for a night of pleasure at his home, but his expectations turned to frustration as his supposed partner turned out to be a man.

The police said Omika disguised as a lady to lure men at nightclubs for amorous relationships but that he ran out of luck when his supposed client raised the alarm upon discovering his gender, which led to his arrest.

But the Kogi State indigene contested the allegation, stating that he did not pose as a woman to lure men as alleged.

Speaking in an interview in Abuja on Tuesday, Omika explained that he was in a bar with his sisters when the complainant offered to buy him drinks, adding that he turned down the offer because he did not take alcohol.

He stated that he narrated to the man that he and his sisters were in the bar to look for jobs, but the man informed him that they could get employment at the bar.

The suspect said, “I was in a bar and a man saw me and asked if I was Igala (ethnic group), I said yes. He offered to buy drinks for me, but I told him I don’t take alcohol, so he bought me a soft drink.

“I told him that my sisters and I were in the bar to look for jobs, but he said there were no jobs there and offered to take us to his house. He explained that we could stay the night and promised to give us N3,000 so we could go back to our village; so, we went with him to his house.”

On getting to the complainant’s residence, Omika, who has feminine features, said the man asked his sisters to sleep with him in his bedroom, but they turned him down.

“The man said my sisters should come and sleep with him, but they refused and chose to sleep in the living room. So, I slept off and the man touched my chest and upon discovering that I was a man, he called the police and I was arrested. It was at daybreak that the police came and I was taken away,” Omika added.

Consults more stakeholders for the actualisation of the project

[Image: Hadi-Sirika-360x350.jpg]Hadi Sirika, Aviation minister

The Minister of state for Aviation, Hadi Sirika on Thursday sa‎id the proposed national carrier was on course as further consultation were being carried out by the ministry in order to get the input of all aviation stakeholders in ensuring that the country had a sustainable airline that will stand the test of time.

Speaking in Abuja at the stakeholders meeting, the Minister noted that “we coming back, we are coming back and coming back strongly.”

‎He noted that “‎the current efforts to establish the national carrier was initiated before the composition of the present Federal Executive Council (FEC). Mr President had directed the ministry of Aviation to commence the process of bring back the national carrier before I became the minister.”

“Following the approval of Mr President of the road map, necessary procurement were undertaken to appoint the Transaction Adviser for the project. Advertisements were carried out on the 13th of June 2016 in Thisday and Daily Trust newspapers to this effect “noting that due process was followed in the public private partnership (PPP) arrangement in establishing the national carrier.
Sirika denied the allegations that everything started and ended up in his office, “the Outline Business Case (OBC) report reviewed certificate of compliance issued by Infrastructure ‎Concession and Regulatory Commission (ICRC) insisted on conditions of commitment to leverage on private sector capital and expertise towards establishment of a national carrier through the provision of an upfront grant/viability  gap funding.”
The Minister explained ‎that “an estimated funding for the establishment of the project is USD 300 million to 2020, an initial start-up capital of $55 million made up of $25 million for deposit for new aircraft and $30 million for working capital from June to December 2018 “.
“Estimated working capital for 2019 is $100 million, estimated capital for 2020 is $145 million to be provided by ‎strategic equity partners who are expected to manage the project.”

Sirika said many willing financiers like “IsDB, AFDB, AFREXIM, Us-EXIM,Standard Chartered Bank, Boeing Airbus, BOAD, China -Exim amongst others ‎”has already indicated interest in supporting the Nigeria Air project.
‎Explaining further why the project was suspended, he said “FEC had agreed that the project is desirable and potentially sustainable, but asked for the project to suspended at moment.” Adding that “the name Air Nigeria was obtained by engaging the general public through the social media campaign were over 40,000 person were engaged within one week on Facebook.”
On why the project logo was unveiled outside the country, Sirika stated that “Famborough Air show is a bi-annual Global Aviation event, which provided a perfect opportunity to unveil the national carrier. It created visibility and connect manufacturers, investors and financiers. It also gave opportunity to showcase all the Aviation Road map.”

He also denied that “no foreign company was paid $600,000 for the design of the logo of Air Nigeria, I am too young to spoil my name with financial misappropriation. Apart from commitments in respect of transaction advisory services, branding and participation in London, no other commitment has been made ” noting that about N40 million was spent for the same purposes.

He said Air Nigeria will “support the growth of the Aviation industry and domestic airlines through infrastructure expansion, traffic routes expansion and manpower development associated with national carrier and also to compete with foreign airlines for a share of the international routes through competitive pricing thereby reducing capital flight.”

“The ministry is implementing the project in an open and transparent manner in conjunction with relevant stakeholders,” he concluded.

2019 Election: Buhari Vows Harsh Verdict For Atiku
User Avatar Forum: News
Posted by: Edoman - 11-09-2018, 10:51 AM - No Replies

THE proposed N30,000 minimum wage seems to have become a campaign issue ahead of next year’s election.

To the Presidency, the controversy over President Muhammadu Buhari’s position on what the least paid worker should earn is “concocted”.

It accused yesterday some political actors, including the Atiku Media Office, of trying to score cheap political goals, warning that “stiff judgment awaits them at the polls”.

Presidential spokesman Femi Adesina was reacting to comments by the Atiku Media Office, which said “President Buhari cannot be trusted to implement the ‘new’ minimum wage of N30, 000’’ recommended by the Pepple tripartite committee”.

Atiku, the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), said: “Buhari may not have the political will to implement the new wage’’.

Adesina said: “Those who have latched onto the concocted controversy to play cheap politics, we appeal to them to remember that elections are not won through loquaciousness, and trying to demean the President at every drop of a hat.

“But then, it is not surprising, as they have nothing else to sell to Nigerians, if they don’t ride on the name of the President. Stiff judgment awaits them at the polls.’’

The presidential aide frowned at the recurring reports alleging that Buhari had reneged on an earlier acceptance of the N30,000 recommended as the new National Minimum Wage by the National Minimum Wage Tripartite Committee.

He noted that these reports were contrary to what transpired on Tuesday when the committee presented its report to the President.

Adesina said the President, while acknowledging the concerns raised by government on affordability and labour’s focus on meaningful increase, stated clearly in a speech, which was made available to the media, that:

“In a way, both arguments are valid. I want to assure you all that we will immediately put in place the necessary machinery that will close out these open areas.

“Our plan is to transmit an Executive Bill to the National Assembly for passage within the shortest possible time. I am fully committed to having a new National Minimum Wage Act in the very near future.

“As the Executive Arm commences its review of your submission, we will continue to engage you all in closing any open areas presented in this report. I, therefore, would like to ask for your patience and understanding in the coming weeks.”

Adesina observed: “From the above, and throughout the report-submission ceremony, the President never mentioned any figure. What he committed himself to was a new minimum wage, and only after the Report of the committee has been reviewed by the executive and legislative processes of government and an appropriate bill presented to him for assent.

Strangest Buildings In The World (photos)

What pops into your mind when thinking about modern architecture and their architects? Sleek lines, mind-blowing structures, and the hip, uber-modern creator of it all. Well, that is not the case for some of these crazy buildings. Surely, the creators of Basket House, Gag Building or the Conch dwelling weren’t your usual modern-day architects.

It is fantastic, but you will have the choice of waking up to sunrise in your bedroom and enjoying sunsets over the ocean at dinner.

In addition to being such an incredible engineering miracle it will produce energy for itself and even for other buildings because it will have wind turbines fitted between each rotating floor (picture 2). So an 80-story building will have up to 79 wind turbines, making it a true green power plant.

•Amosun visits Buhari; denies role in Oshiomhole’s DSS tango

ABUJA —The crisis arising from the move to ease out Comrade Adams Oshiomhole as National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, took a new turn yesterday with governors championing the move to recruit ministers to join them in the crusade.

Nonetheless, there were fears that their efforts of projecting their protégés as the party’s candidates in various elective positions could amount to nullity, with Oshiomhole out of the country. Oshiomhole as national chairman is required to sign any substitution of party candidates.

Meanwhile, Oshiomhole, Vanguard
gathered last night, had also launched a charm offensive by apologising to some aspirants who were disqualified during the recent party primaries.

However, the crisis in the APC got official censure in the House of Representatives yesterday as it constituted an ad-hoc committee to investigate the conduct of internal party primaries by the country’s political parties.

The legislators also frowned on the role assumed by governors who they claimed considered themselves as tin gods.
The umbrage in the House came as Governor Ibikunle Amosun of Ogun State, yesterday, visited President Muhammadu Buhari, following which he denied reports of his involvement in the questioning of Comrade Oshiomhole by the DSS last Sunday.

Meanwhile, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP has tasked the National Intelligence Agency, Interpol and President Buhari to help bring back Comrade Oshiomhole to the country. The party’s admonition was echoed by the opposition caucus in the Senate which saw nothing wrong in the interrogation of the party chairman.

The same sentiment was echoed by a leading APC chieftain, Mr. Osita Okechukwu, the Director-General of the Voice of Nigeria, VON, who urged Oshiomhole to do the needful by resigning, instead of running away from the country. He warned that the national chairman could be stoned if he accompanied Buhari to Enugu during the forthcoming campaigns.

Governors recruit ministers

The anti-Oshiomhole governors, it was gathered, were said to be marshalling new points and hard evidence against the national chairman which they would present to President Buhari.

A top official of the party said, yesterday, in Abuja that since the governors felt politically humiliated by Oshiomhole, the right thing to do was to pay him back in his own coin.

Besides, the governors were said to be recruiting ministers to join the plot to get Oshiomhole out of the way.

“The anger among the governors is that Oshiomhole did virtually all the things he is now stopping the governors from doing. He imposed his successor in Edo on his people. Till date, one cannot vie for any position in Edo State without the endorsement of Oshiomhole. So, why is he stopping the governors?
“The governors are also angry at leader of the party in the South-West, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who is reportedly positioning himself for the presidency in 2023. We were told that while the chairman was being grilled by security operatives, the man flew in from Lagos to practically bail him out,” the party official said.

Oshiomhole in charm offensive

Meanwhile, indications have emerged that the national chairman has been reaching out to some influential aggrieved aspirants of the party.

In a letter dated October 30, 2018 and addressed to some individual aspirants, the chairman was said to have apologized for their disqualification, hinging it on the handiwork of fifth columnists.

In a copy of one of such letters obtained by Vanguard, the national chairman wrote:
“Although you were cleared by the National Working Committee (NWC) appointed screening panel as a governorship aspirant to contest the Direct Primary election, your disqualification was erroneously announced by unknown source when voting was midway.

“The incident as the Governorship Primary Election and the subsequent embarrassing mischief directed at your esteemed person by the faceless individual in the name of the party is deeply regretted.”

The source continued: “Some people were initially cleared in Abuja only to be told that they had been disqualified during the primaries. The party should have waded in by then to stamp its feet that such people had been cleared to contest. What the chairman is doing now would not achieve much because many of those who are aggrieved were wrongly disqualified”.

Oshiomhole is currently in the United States where he is also reportedly strategising on how to take down his foes and retain his office ahead of the crucial general elections in February.

Amosun in Aso Rock, denies role in Oshiomhole’s interrogation

Meanwhile, Governor Amosun, yesterday, dismissed insinuations that he was one of the two governors behind the petition that got Oshiomhole to be quizzed by the DSS.
Speaking to State House correspondents after consultation with the president yesterday, Governor Amosun said that he would not need to go behind anybody to fight if need be.

“I think you are probably giving me an oversight role and I am not a security person, so clearly I think that question will not be for me. I don’t have to hide under a finger to fight. If there is a need for me to put my views across, you know me by now that I will do it.”

Also asked to comment on the report that Oshiomhole may have fled the country after his encounter with the DSS, he said: “I have told you those things are beyond my pedigree and you are asking me questions that I am not well suited for. The one that I think I should talk about we have said it loud and clear that we don’t need to add any other thing.”

Against the background of pressure from the party in Ogun State for him to defect, the governor stoutly refused to divulge his mission to the president.

Governor Okorocha the other governor reported to have been involved in subjecting Oshiomhole to interrogation opted not to speak on the matter yesterday.

His spokesman, Sam Onwunemedo said the arrest and interrogation of the national chairman remained a matter of speculation.

Oshiomhole may be stoned in Enugu – Osita

Comrade Osita Okechukwu, another long-standing associate of President Buhari was, however, not as reserved yesterday. Okechukwu at a press conference at the national secretariat of the APC called for Oshiomhole’s immediate resignation over allegations of corruption arising from the recent conduct of the party primaries.

He said Oshiomhole could be stoned by the public should he accompany Buhari to Enugu during the electioneering campaigns.

Noting his earlier call on Oshiomhole to resign and the refusal of the chairman to heed his call, he said: “Gentlemen of the Press, as the Oshiohmole Must Go wave raged, the Department of State Services (DSS) got wind of it. They interrogated him, and I patiently waited to read in the social or main media from Comrade Oshiomhole and his spin doctors over his tango with the DSS, neither rebuttal nor denial came from them.

“I, therefore, once again stridently call on Comrade Oshiomhole to instead of pontificating, grandstanding and running away from the country; to do the needful by honourably resigning the chairmanship of our great party.

“It seems he is running away from duty to evade the substitution window, meant to redress the grievances of some of us, who are causalities of his nepotism.

“It is imperative that he resigns forthwith to save the APC and Mr. President on the eve of 2019 crucial general elections. One personally would not want the mud Comrade Oshiomhole had accumulated via gross breach of the Constitution of the APC, the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and extant laws to be splashed on our great party or President Muhammadu Buhari.

While exonerating President Buhari and Asiwaju Bola Tinubu from the issues, he said: “I call on Oshiomohle that instead of pontificating or running out of the country, to do the needful. You can imagine if Oshiomohle comes to Enugu with President Buhari for a campaign, people might stone him,” he insisted.

Nothing must happen to Oshiomhole

There were, however, soothing words for the national chairman from the South-South Unity League (SSUL) which yesterday tasked security agencies to purge themselves of partisanship as the country moves closer to 2019 general elections.

A statement issued in Benin City by the Secretary-General of SSUL, Dr. Ochuko Egbemayon alleged collaboration between the opposition parties and some security agencies as it wondered how the DSS would have invited Oshiomhole who he described as a high profile personality without first briefing President Muhammadu Buhari on its intended actions.

He said: “The manner in which Adams Oshiomhole was whisked into the DSS office and the open secret that it was all based on a premeditated ploy to force him out of office clearly showed that the current DSS might surreptitiously undermine national security.

“Let us forewarn that Adams Oshiomhole is our dear son and not an orphan who should be toiled with.

“The President of the Federal Republic ought to approve his invitation, especially when he is not capable of evading arrest. We believe that the DSS session with Oshiomhole may not be unconnected with well-known plans by the PDP’s schemes being hatched in Dubai aimed at causing political unrest in Nigeria. President Buhari must urgently overhaul the DSS operational architecture before they are used for unmanageable sabotage.”

Oshiomhole cannot escape justice – PDP

Meanwhile, the PDP, yesterday, called on the National Intelligence Agency, NIA and INTERPOL to help track down Comrade Oshiomhole.

The party said Oshiomhole’s swift flight out of the country, at the heat of the investigation, is suspect and goes to confirm allegations that the presidency is shielding him from prosecution for fear that his investigation would implicate certain interests at the Presidency and the APC.

The party in a statement issued by its spokesman, Kola Ologbondiyan, yesterday, chided the ruling party for denying knowledge of Oshiomhole’s grilling by the DSS even as it added that the former Edo state governor could not escape justice.

“Nigerians are already aware that Oshiomhole has not denied his investigation including his reported confession that the Presidency was in the loop of all his actions.

“The PDP had always cautioned Oshiomhole of his unbridled arrogance, lust for power for which he must surely have his day in the hands of the law.

“The PDP demands that APC and the Presidency must immediately produce Oshiomhole to face investigation and prosecution in our courts,” the statement read in part.

He’s not above the law – PDP senators

The same sentiment was echoed by some senators, yesterday, who said that the party chairman is not above the law.

Speaking with Vanguard on the development, Chairman, Senate Committee on Public Accounts, Senator Matthew Urhoghide, PDP, Edo South said: “Speaking frankly, I do not know the issues that are involved, and I cannot even ascertain the authenticity of the story. If it is true and anything has to be considered, no one is above the law, Oshiomhole is a citizen of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, he is not above the law. The law should be allowed to take its place, and justice must be the order of the day. “

On his part, Chairman, South-East Senate Caucus, Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe, PDP, Abia South said, “ the spokesperson of Mr. President, Adesina tweeted sometimes ago that “ the harder they come, the harder they fall.” We never knew he was referring to Oshiomhole!”

Also contributing, Deputy Senate Minority leader, Senator Emmanuel Bwacha said: “We await the outcome because we are conversant with the issues involved. We will also know when there is a seeming cover-up.”

Anger in the house over tin god governors
Palpable anger, frustration, and regrets were on display at yesterday’s plenary of the House of Representatives over the failure of most members to secure a returning ticket from their respective political parties.

Members of the ruling APC took the lead, pointing accusing fingers at the national leadership of the party as the mastermind of their woes.

Governors on the platforms of the party were not also spared by the lawmakers who tagged them ‘tin gods’ who hijacked the party machineries during the primary elections to favour their anointed surrogates.

Specifically, they alleged that internal party democracy took a flight during the party primary elections.

The lawmakers raised the alarm of an impending catastrophe that may befall Nigeria’s democracy should the National Assembly continue to tolerate the excesses of those who they said have continued to glory in political subterfuge as against the dictates of the Electoral Act and the constitution of the country.

Members’ remarks were sequel to a motion from Rep. Abubakar Chica, APC, Niger State.

Titled: “The conduct of Congress/primary by political parties to nominate candidate to contest the various position in 2019 General Election”, the motion alleged an affront and subversion of the electoral laws during party primary elections.

Citing his state as a case study, Chica said that deliberate moves were made by the power brokers in his state to deny him and others the party ticket.

He prayed the House to constitute an ad-hoc committee to investigate the violation of electoral Act by political parties with the collusion of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC and also ascertain the income and expenses of the major political parties in the last four years in line with section 226 of the constitution for the good of the country.

Contributing to the debate, Rep. Musa Soba from Kaduna who recently defected from the APC expressed fears that with the wave of desperation from the ruling party, it remained to be seen whether President Muhammadu Buhari may agree to concede defeat like former President Goodluck Jonathan did in 2015.

According to him, the impunity in the APC “is being supported by Governors who believe we must do their bidding. The 2019 election must be credible, free, fair and rancour-free. I do not think that with what we have now, the elections may be free as in 2015 when a sitting president conceded defeat.”

Rep. Hassan Saleh (PDP) from Benue State said that though the issue was not peculiar to APC, it was, however, more pronounced in the party.

On her part, Rep. Nnenna Ukeje (PDP), Abia State charged political parties to respect their respective constitutions.

Taking a different stance, Rep. Sunday Adepoju who defected from APC to the African Democratic Congress, ADC, from Oyo State chided his colleagues for appearing docile when it mattered most and chose to speak at the eleventh hour.

“We were supposed to talk during the ward congresses. It is time for us to have a reflection on how we want Nigeria to be’, he said.

Also speaking, Rep. Lawal Abubakar from Adamawa asserted that “what we are witnessing in APC is a battle between the rule of law and impunity. We have over 200 pre-election cases in APC.”

In this same vein, Rep. Mark Gbilah from Benue State said political party system in Nigeria is steeped in corruption, as he advocated for independent candidacy.

“We are running a system of political parties where from the grassroots corruption is entrenched. The onus now comes back to the national assembly. What are we going to do to our political system? The responsibility for the national assembly is about what we are going to do. Nigerians have never been provided with the opportunity to choose who it is that will represent them. Independent candidacy is the only solution,” he said.

Following contributions from other lawmakers, Speaker Yakubu Dogara granted the prayers of the motion and constituted an ad-hoc committee to investigate the issues.

The committee which has four weeks within which to conclude its assignment and report back to the house for further legislative inputs would be chaired by Rep. Edward Pwjok who is also a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, SAN from Plateau State.

Fresh court order in Imo

Meanwhile, the Imo State government, yesterday, reported that the Federal High Court sitting in Owerri has ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, and the APC to maintain status quo except the publication of the names of those who emerged in the primary conducted by Brigadier-General Ibrahim Agbabiaka.

A statement issued by the chief press secretary to Governor Okorocha, Mr. Sam Onwuemeodo said the order is to subsist until the final determination of the motion on Notice before the Court.

“With this development, the House of Assembly Candidates elected on the October 6, 2018 Primaries would have their names published by INEC pending the determination of the Motion on Notice before the Court.

“In other words, the picture of the situation over who and who are Candidates of APC in the State with regard to the House of Assembly primary has become clearer with the prevailing Federal High Court Order,” the statement deposed.

RHAPSODY OF REALITIES

FRIDAY 9 November 2018.

Justice -- a gift of grace

So that, as sin ruled by death, thus the grace régnât by justice for eternal life, by Jesus Christ our Lord (Romans 5:21).

Justice is the nature of God in you that produces the ability to stand before God without any sense of guilt, inferiority or conviction. Justice is the manifestation of divine grace, granting acceptance, freedom and human rights in the presence of God. So the grace of God gave us this justice; that is what we read in our opening verse.

Our Justice is God's gift for us in Jesus Christ, because of his grace. By Grace, we received the nature of God's justice and were transported to the kingdom of his beloved son, where we rule and control with him. John 1:17 said, " because the law was given by Moses, grace and truth came by Jesus Christ." Romans 5:17 said, "... those who receive the abundance of grace and gift Justice will prevail in life by Jesus Christ our lord."

Not only do we have domination over the devil and the circumstances, we live in God's justice, and live as God's justice. Nothing, nor anyone, can no longer condemn us, because God justified us; he acquitted us, and it was just for him to do it for us: " to... to show his justice in the present time, Way to be fair while justifying the one who has faith in Jesus " (Romans 3:26).

It is your responsibility to seize your justice; to be aware and rule as a king in life; to exercise domination over Satan, the world, and the circumstances. The conscience of justice also gives you this assurance and confidence to pray and hope for answers. It gives you control over demons and their manipulation. That makes you a champion in life!

No matter where you have been, what you have done, who you have been, you are now accepted in Jesus Christ (Ephesians 1:6). Now, in his presence, you are free; you no longer need to have Fear; you are free to express yourself and to be yourself, without any shame in front of him. You are free to live happily, and to worship him, because you have the right to stand before him; you are his justice in Jesus Christ. Hallelujah!

Prayer

Dear Father, I thank you for the gift of justice; now I stand justified and glorified before you in love, free to love you and live happily in your presence. I enjoy my right to stand in your presence to dominate and rule as king in life, in Jesus name. Amen.

#AFFIRMATIONTRAIN

9TH NOVEMBER.

I affirm that the land is green for me! The wilderness is now a fertile field, and the fertile field has become a forest. New doors of opportunities are open unto me by the Spirit of God. I’ve been granted spiritual insight and set on the right course for life.

The keys of the kingdom have been given unto me; therefore, I am celebrating my riches generously. I live above lack and other distracting influences of this earthly realm because I live in, and by the Word. Nothing is impossible with me because my life is the story and testimony of God’s grace. There’s nothing that I do that is void of the anointing. The anointing of God is on everything that I do.

This anointing causes me to expand, spread, flourish and advance in life. This is my year of the supernatural and I am far ahead of any competitor or distractor. Hallelujah! The speed of the Spirit has been granted me and I experience luxuriant growth and persistent productivity in every area of my life. Whatever I set my heart to do, the blessing of God is on it. I have multiplied abilities, wherever I am being checked or tested; the least they will ever find is that I am ten times better. I am anointed to walk on water and everywhere around me is green. Blessed be God. Hallelujah!

How Ambode lost his second term bid, Adefuye, GAC member reveals
Friday, November 09, 2018 politics

A member of the Lagos State Governor’s Advisory Council, GAC, Senator Anthony Adefuye, yesterday, disclosed how party leaders in Lagos East Senatorial District fought to secure the second term ticket for Governor Akinwunmi Ambode.

Adefuye disclosed this at a reconciliation meeting held at CMD Shangisha in Lagos.

Adefuye, the APC Lagos East Senatorial District Leader, said: “People accused us of removing Governor Akinwunmi Ambode. We saw this crack four months ago and we decided to meet with our Lagos Central Senatorial Leader, Alhaji Tajudeen Olusi and we went to see Asiwaju Bola Tinubu. “We asked Tinubu if there was any problem, and he said that there was a problem and he narrated it.

“We prostrated and asked him to call the Ambode and speak with him. “We left the place and started calling the Ambode to give him a hint of the meeting, but he did not pick our calls. Asiwaju Tinubu said that he was not picking his calls too. I actually tried my best. “We rose up to defend Ambode. We didn’t just follow Asiwaju like sheep, we fought and we tried. “Those of us in the East nearly burst into tears for the opportunity we lost in Lagos East. “I fought tooth and nail to make sure that the position was not taken away from us. It was a great opportunity that we lost. “Anyone that is not a party man should not be elected into positions. Take this advice and make sure you don’t make the same

Stop complaining, your time almost up, Fayose tells Buhari

Former governor of Ekiti State, Mr. Ayodele Fayose, has urged President Muhammadu Buhari to face governance and stop complaining about the nation’s challenges.
He said when President Buhari was seeking Nigerians’ votes, he never said he was coming to complain, “rather, he promised to fix what he claimed to have been identified as the problems.”

Fayose, who said Buhari’s time was almost up, lamented that the president has spent three and half years blaming his predecessors and allegedly inflicting both security and economic crises on the country.

Reacting to the president’s statement that he “inherited a mind boggling mismanaged Nigeria,” Fayose, in a statement issued yesterday by his Media Aide, Lere Olayinka, said: “It is no longer funny that a president who assumed office three and half years ago is still complaining about how he met the country instead of Nigerians having feelings of how well he has solved the problems he claimed that he had capacity to solve.”He should stop singing the same song of lamentation that he has been singing since 2015 and learn from his colleague in Ghana, who hit the ground running immediately he assumed office.”

The immediate past Ekiti governor, who said the President should face the reality of a failed tenure and be prepared to leave office next year, added: “Only a leader who lacks competence and is challenged by knowledge and exposure will blame his predecessors for over three years.”

“Nigerians of mostly below 40 years who voted for the President in 2015 did so because they never experienced him as a military head of state. Now that they have seen that he does not have the required capacity to govern a country like Nigeria, they are eager to vote him out.”

Fayose charged the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leaders to put everything into the 2019 elections so as to be able rescue Nigerians from the present state of anguish occasioned by the directionless All Progressives Congress (APC) government.

“Today, Nigeria has become the ‘Poverty Capital’ of the world. God forbid, a Buhari’s second term will turn Nigeria to a republic of poverty where people will be running to other neighboring countries to feed. PDP must, therefore, work very hard to save the country from going down completely,” Fayose said.

Violence in the country has displaced hundreds of thousands of people and many people are yet unaccounted for.

The former president of the region is awaiting trial over allegationof causing ethnic clashes.

A notorious regional security force known as the Liyu police is accused of carrying out killings in the area between the Somali and Oromia regions and it reported directly to the former regional president.

The police are trying to identify the 200 bodies found.

Corruption: PDP Urges NIA, DSS, Interpol to Track Oshiomhole

Press Statement

Corruption: PDP Urges NIA, DSS, Interpol to Track Oshiomhole
…Mocks APC For Habouring Corrupt Persons

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) charges the National Intelligence Agency (NIA) and INTERPOL to help track down the factional National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Adams Oshiomhole, believed to be on the run outside the country since his reported interrogation by the Department of State Services (DSS) over alleged corruption charges.

The party notes that Adams Oshiomhole’s swift flight out of the country, at the heat of the investigation, is suspect and goes to confirm allegations that the Muhammadu Buhari Presidency is shielding him from prosecution for fear that his investigation would implicate certain interests at the Presidency and the APC.

It is ludicrous that the APC, in its lying proclivities, believes that by dismissing Oshiomhole’s arrest as a rumour and aiding him to momentarily flee the country, it would succeed in getting him off the DSS hook as well as sweeping the matter out of public discourse with its famished broom.

No! Nigerians are already aware that Oshiomhole has not denied his investigation including his reported confession that the Presidency was in the loop of all his actions.

The PDP had always cautioned Adams Oshiomhole of his unbridled arrogance, lust for power and alleged embezzlement of public funds for which he must surely have his day in the hands of the law.

The PDP therefore demands that APC and the Buhari Presidency must immediately produce Adams Oshiomhole to face investigation and prosecution in our courts.

Signed:

Kola Ologbondiyan
National Publicity Secretary

My father was killed so I bought the gun for my brother to protect the cow. We have about 100 cows but it is now remaining 15 because of crisis in Plateau State.”

N2.82trn To Hit Money Market In November

FSDH Merchant Bank Plc has predicted that about N2.82 trillion coming from matured government securities and Federal Account Allocation Committee (FAAC) are expected to hit the Nigerian money market this month.

The bank also projected a total outflow of approximately N1.03 trillion from various sources, including government securities and statutory withdrawals, leading to a net inflow of about N1.79trn.

The Head of Research and Strategy at FSDH Merchant Bank Limited, Mr. Ayodele Akinwunmi, while speaking on the firm’s latest monthly economic and financial market outlook report released recently.

The report was titled: “Local Competitiveness: A Prerequisite for Inclusive Growth.”

Presenting the highlight of the report, the Akinwunmi, reiterated the need for the diversification of the economy in order to drive inclusive growth and competitiveness.

According to him, the Nigerian economy has the potential to grow faster than the projection by the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and other organisation.

He added: “Even though FSDH is of the opinion that the Nigerian economy has the potential to grow faster that the projection of the IMF, this can only happen where we have coordinated set of policies that will unleash the economy: paying attention to power, paying attention to our infrastructure, involving the private sector, paying attention to our education system, paying attention to adoption of information and communication technology (ICT), to ensure that we are not lagging behind in the fourth industrial revolution which is digital revolution.

“We need to involve private sector operators in ensuring that we lay the foundation for a sustainable growth of the Nigerian economy and to diversify the revenue streams of the economy.”

According to him, “the more we create local competitiveness to make our local economy attractive, the better for us.

“And it comes in various ways: in terms of infrastructure, in education, right policies to develop the right education skills training to make people employable, right health facilities.”

Akinwunmi anticipated an uptick in inflation, to be, “driven by the escalation in price of food and account of the food shortage, the clash between herdsmen and farmers, the flooding issue that we had across the country. And maybe, if the minimum wage is approved for payment, it may likely have some little additional increase to it.”

He noted that if the ongoing agitation for an increase in minimum wage is approved and it leads to upsurge in liquidity in the system, the Monetary Policy Committee may intervene by adjusting the Cash Reserve Requirement (CRR) to soak the liquidity.

On capital flight, Aknwunmi said: “The capital flight will continue to increase because of the increase in rates in developed countries, which we call a saving haven. And it’s putting a lot of pressure on foreign exchange.”

CBN, MTN Near Deal Over $8.1bn Fund Transfer
User Avatar Forum: Market Place
Posted by: Edoman - 11-09-2018, 09:06 AM - No Replies

MTN Group Limited is close to securing a deal with the Central Bank of Nigeria over an order to repay $8.1bn it is alleged to have illegally taken out of the country, according to a person familiar with the matter.

Bloomberg reported that a settlement might be sealed by Monday and could come as early as Friday, said the person, who asked not to be identified because they’re not authorised to comment publicly.

The CBN is set to meet four lenders of MTN Nigeria to discuss a dispute over an $8.1bn fund transfer, a banking source told Reuters.

It was gathered that the CBN emailed invitations on Thursday to the Nigeria Heads of Standard Chartered, Citibank, Stanbic IBTC Bank and Diamond Bank, to attend a meeting on Friday, the source added.

The central bank and the banks declined to comment on a potential meeting on Friday while a spokeswoman for MTN said she did not know of a meeting.

The source said the meeting would start at 4 pm on Friday and focus on MTN’s fund transfer.

The CBN in late August had alleged that MTN and four of its banks – Standard Chartered Plc, Citigroup Inc., Stanbic IBTC Plc and Diamond Bank Plc – illegally repatriated $8.1bn from Nigeria while the office of the Attorney General of the Federation claimed the company failed to remit $2bn back taxes.

The CBN also imposed a total fine of N5.87bn on the four banks for allegedly remitting dividends with irregular Certificates of Capital Importation on behalf of MTN Nigeria between 2007 and 2015.

Meanwhile, MTN Nigeria Communication Limited has sued the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Mr Abubakar Malami (SAN), before the Federal High Court in Lagos, demanding N3bn as general and exemplary damages.

The telecoms firm is challenging the August 20, 2018 letter written to it by the AGF, demanding N242bn and $1.3bn as import duties, withholding and value added taxes.

The firm, in the suit filed through its lawyer, Chief Wole Olanipekun (SAN), described the AGF’s N242bn and $1.3bn demand from it as “malicious, unreasonable and one made on an incorrect legal basis.”

MTN contended that in writing the demand letter to it, the AGF acted beyond his powers and violated the provisions of Section 36 of the constitution on fair hearing with “the purported revenue assets investigation” he carried out on the firm’s activities covering 2007 to 2017.

MTN, through Olanipekun, is urging the court to declare that the AGF acted illegally by “usurping the powers of the Federal Inland Revenue Service, to audit and demand remittance of withholding tax and value-added tax.”

The firm also wants the court to declare that with the “self-assessment exercise,” the AGF usurped the powers of the Nigerian Customs Service to demand payment of import duties on the importation of goods.

It wants the court to declare that “the purported self-assessment” conducted by the AGF was “unknown to the law, null and void and of no effect whatsoever”.

But the AGF has filed a preliminary objection, urging the court to dismiss MTN’s suit.

The AGF, through his lawyer, Mr T.A. Gazali, argued that MTN’s suit was incompetent, having not been filed within three months of the complaint.

Gazali argued that MTN’s suit breached the provisions of Section 2 of the Public Officers Protection Act, “which provides that any action commenced against a public officer must be made within three months from the commencement of a cause of action.”

Landing Equipment Stolen At Benin Airport Days After Purchase

An equipment that was recently purchased to aid the take-off and landing of aircraft has been stolen at the Benin Airport, Edo State, South-South Nigeria, the state government said, Premium Times reports

“The Edo state governor, Godwin Obaseki, has condemned the theft of part of the Instrument Landing System (ILS) being installed at the Benin Airport,” a statement issued on Thursday by the Edo State Government House, Benin, said.

The Benin Airport is owned and operated by the federal government.

The equipment, according to the statement, were bought a few days ago by the state government to enable aircraft take off and land at the airport on 24 hours basis.

The statement said:

“The Instrument Landing System (ILS) is a radio navigation system which provides aircraft with horizontal and vertical guidance before and during landing.”

It added:

“Some equipment in the Glide Slope, a component of the ILS, which provides the vertical guidance was stolen while facilities at the localiser component were intact.”

A disappointed Mr Obaseki, who was on a tour of the facility at the airport, is said to have directed the Nigerian intelligence service, the State Security Service (SSS) to immediately investigate and fish out those behind the theft.

“I assured Edo people that our Airport will render 24-hour services and we have been working on that with the relevant federal government agencies to see how we can get the necessary equipment in place to allow this happen,” the governor was quoted as saying in a meeting with a senior official of the Nigerian Airforce, before he inspected the facilities at the airport.

“We have been able to secure the ILS and the necessary equipment, we also have an agreement to put runway lights so that planes can be guided to land at night.

“Work has started but there is little incident as some of the equipment bought last week have been stolen. We have brought in security agencies to investigate and get the culprits arrested and ensure the work proceeds as desired.

“Our goal is to ensure that before the harmattan season, the Benin Airport will be ready to function as a 24/7 Airport and more importantly, have the landing system to navigate flights even in bad weather,” Mr Obaseki said.

Officials of the Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) and the National Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) accompanied the governor on the facility tour.

An unidentified lady was reportedly killed at the early hours of today by a high tension cable that fell off from the Ikeja Electric Pole along Iju road close to Agege Pen-cinema round about in Lagos.

According to an eyewitness, the sad incident could have been averted had it been the Electricity distributing company had responded swiftly after several calls were made to their office by residents of the Lagos State Housing Estate close to the spot were the cable fell.

It was gathered that the Electric Cable actually fell since yesterday and till the early hours of this morning, no effort was made by the concerned authority only for this lady to fall victim and paid the ultimate price with her life.

This is not a new occurrence said one Mrs Edun, the Power Company are fond of not responding to emergency issues like this when it happened. It's a pity this innocent woman had to die in this manner on her way to work at the early hours of today.

For ‘Embezzling N33billion’ Sack Mustapha Maihaja As NEMA DG - Reps Tell Buhari

Quote:BREAKING: Reps Ask Buhari To Sack NEMA DG For ‘Embezzling Over N33billion’

The House of Representatives has asked President Muhammadu Buhari to sack Mustapha Maihaja as Director-General of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) for allegedly mismanaging more than N33 billion.

The lower chamber had inaugurated an ad hoc committee to probe NEMA’s operations under Maihaja; and when it turned in its report on Thursday, it recommended his dismissal.

Nigeria’s emergency operations hardly pass any test of investigative reporting regarding scale of funding compared to the quality of relief available to victims of disasters and insurgency.

In December 2016, an undercover investigation exposed how government and emergency-aid officials were piling more misery on Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) by stealing foodstuffs and other relief materials meant for their well-being.

7/11/18
Information reaching me from reliable  sources has it that Dunamis street, directly opposite the second gate of the Benue State University has recently been engulfed by activities of cult groups. Yesterday a death was recorded about 8pm around the area and today again about the hour of 4:35pm, a young man identified to be a student of Theatre Art Department of BSU was killed right at the entrance of the street, obstructing business activities and worshippers coming for the Wednesday service.

The sad incident which left traders and students scrambling for safety has dissuaded residents to pass the night in the fear that, there is likelihood of more security challenges for the area.

The deceased young man who was said to be resident in Gyado Villa had come to the street to have a hair cut and was trailed by a group of suspected Cultists numbering 17 who were armed with guns, short axes and cutlasses as well as stones who openly attacked him and hacked him down

The government and security agencies are by this update urged to consider Dunamis street an unsecured zone and take the necessary steps to forestall the complete breakdown of security.

2019: Why general elections may not hold – Pat Utomi

                               Pat Utomi

A professor of political economy and public affairs analyst, Pat Utomi, on Tuesday in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, insisted that with the outcome of primaries of various political parties in the country, there were strong indications that the forthcoming general elections in 2019 may not hold.

He said that one of the reasons the elections may not hold was that leaders in Nigeria have obsession to themselves, forgetting about services to the masses.

Utomi made these revelations while speaking during the 70th anniversary of Students Christian Movement (SCM) of University of Ibadan, entitled “Treating the Ailing Nation”.

He maintained that primaries across parties were the pointers that the general election might not hold as he declared that Nigeria was ailing for lack of love and compassion, decrying that people cannot find their voice.

Utomi said, “Can you take seriously any of the primaries that have taken place? We are going to have all kinds of troubles. People within parties will try to sabotage one another. This will spill over. The development might lead to postponement of the elections. The signs are not the best for our democracy”.

The former Presidential Adviser said the nation’s public sphere was captured by criminals and real armed robbers and ‘entrepreneurs’ of power.

He maintained that those who enter the arena of leadership were not people who have capacity to lead, adding that Nigeria would soon be considered as a dangerous state in the international community.

Peer Review: Edo, Kwara, Kaduna States Record About 400% IGR Increase In 3 Years
User Avatar Forum: News
Posted by: Edoman - 11-08-2018, 04:34 PM - No Replies

The Governors of Edo, Kwara and Kaduna have said that they recorded approximately 400, 350, 150 percent increase respectively in internally generated revenue from 2015 to 2017.

While Edo moved from N600 million to N2.4 billion, Kwara from N600 million to N2.2 billion and moved from N11.8 billion to N24.5 billion.

Governors Godwin Obaseki (Edo), Abdulfatah Ahmed (Kwara) and Malam Nasir El-Rufai, (Kaduna), spoke at the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) Secretariat 4th annual National Peer Learning Event, held on Wednesday in Abuja.

Obaseki, in his presentation on “Mobilising Domestic Financing for Development” said his state had increased its monthly IGR from N600 million to N2.4 billion currently earned.

Obasaki said what the state did was to engage revenue agents, consolidate collection into a single account and to use technology to drive both assessment and collections

He who said that plan of the state was to grow its IGR by 50 per cent year on year.

“Hopefully within the next three months we will have double our IGR from its current N2 billion naira per month to about 44.5 billion per month.’’

The governor added that the state IGR was linked to its infrastructure development plan, saying “you cannot improve IGR if there is no economic growth and one of the key drivers of economic growth is infrastructure.

“When you build roads, schools, hospitals, things that aid and enable businesses, you begin to see economic growth.

“As people do well, income goes up and businesses grow, then you have a basis to levy taxes which you will now has to improve the state.’’

Ahmed on his part disclosed that Kwara Statebachieve growth in its average monthly Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) from N600 million in 2015 to N2.2 billion at the first quarter of 2018.

He said that state was in 2014 confronted by difficult economic challenges on account of significant drop in generated revenue and development in the global economy which impacted its revenue negatively.

Ahmed added that in that year, the defunct Kwara State Board of Internal Revenue (BIR) was averaging about N600 million, which was incapable of augmenting allocations to pay salaries or fund the state infrastructure.

“In that same year, a study of the infrastructure needs of Kwara State indentified a N255 billion gap.

“This discovery led to the Kwara State Infrastructure and Financing Strategy, a comprehensive and targeted plan to systematically the infrastructure deficit.”

This, he said made the state government to embark on urgent financing strategies and reforms in its revenue generation.

These include the passage of the necessary laws, signing of the Kwara State Revenue Administration Law, and replacing the state BIR with Kwara State Internal Revenue Service (KWIRS).

“Based on these challenges, KWIRS achieved growth in the monthly in the monthly as of 2015 to a monthly average of N1.45 billion in 2016, a monthly average of 1.75 billion at the end 2016, and a monthly average of 2.2 billion at the end of the first quarter of 2018.

“On account of these growths in our internal revenue, we have consistently been able to augment monthly federal allocation to ensure prompt payment of salaries.

“It also help to fund major projects, introduce new ones and pay office existing debts owed to contractors in the state.’’

Ahmed stressed that it was incumbent on all stakeholders in the governance of states to strike the necessary balance between economic and social costs of generating increased internal revenue through taxes, fees, levies and fines.

Nigerian traders to have confidence in its crisis resolution arrangement

He said that was necessary as the nation prepares for a new minimum wage law which was expected to put even greater strain on states’ finances.

El-Rufai, in his part said that the state had grow its monthly generated revenue 11.8 billion in 2015 when we took over to a total of 26.5billion in 2017.

“In 2015 we collected a total 11.8billion naira, in 2015 it jumped to N22.5b which was the first year of implementation of tax code, in 2016 it rose to N26.5b and in 2018 as at the end of October we have collected 24.5 billion.

The Kaduna Governor listed some of the steps taken to increase to state IGR was to establish a tax code, update and consolidate the state tax laws from 1914 to date, as well as engaging consultants’ service to reform the state tax agency.

He said that also include establishment of a new revenue collection agency, eliminated cash collection as well constituted Joint Tax Board between the state and its local government.

El-Rufai said that the objective of the state was to live within its means, but when he took over government was 800 to 900 million per month, while the state recurrent expenditure every month was at least N3 billion.
