The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission EFCC, Ilorin Zonal Office has arrested a member-elect of the Kwara State House of Assembly, Hon. Abdulgafar Ayinla. 


Igbere TV gathered that the lawmaker - elect was arrested over his alleged involvement in property scam, forgery and obtaining money under false pretence to the tune of about N26,000,000 (Twenty Six Million Naira).

Ayinla who is expected to be sworn-in on May 29 2019 has confessed to the commission of crime, disclosing that he used the money to finance his political campaigns. 

The petitioner who resides in the United State of America, USA stated that Ayinla who is a legal practitioner was introduced to her by her late Aunt as capable of helping her purchase some properties in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital.

According to her, "The Lawmaker-elect sold to me another two plots of land with four bedroom bungalow at window level at Agric area of Ilorin. I paid N8, 240, 000 (Eight Million Naira Two hundred and Forty Thousand Naira) commission of which Ayinla informed me that the seller had received his money but he never pay the money to the seller up till today, and never refunded the money to me."

The suspect who was disgracefully paraded also disclosed that he diverted the money for his personal use and promised to pay back when he receives his wardrobe allowance from the Kwara State House of Assembly.

He would soon be charged to court.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC on Thursday, grilled the clerk of the National Assembly, Mr. Mohammed Sani-Omolori over the legislature’s “finances” and other undisclosed issues.

Politics Nigeria learned that Omolori’s passport was seized after an intense interrogation that lasted over 6 hours. Inside sources reveal that he was also quizzed about the emergence of leaders in the 9th national assembly.

The clerk oversees the election of new leaders in each assembly. The current method for election of principal officers in the two legislative chambers is an open secret, but the All Progressives Congress (APC) which is expected to produce the next crop of leaders is said to be advocating for a different method.

The anti-graft agency asked Sani-Omolori for the records of the financial dealings of the national assembly.

“Sani-Omolori, whose international passport was seized by the anti-graft agency, was said to have duly cooperated with EFCC officers,” the report said.

The agency is reportedly set to also invite the clerks of the senate, house of representatives and their deputies.

The Islamic Sharia police in northern Nigeria’s Kano state briefly detained 80 people accused of eating in public, rather than fasting from dawn to sunset as Muslims are required to do during their holy month of Ramadan.

The Sharia police, known as Hisbah, say the people were arrested at different times across the city of Kano in the past couple of days.

Kano state is one of the several states in northern Nigeria where Sharia law was re-introduced since 2000.

Sharia law is being implemented partially along with the country’s secular law.

The Hisbah spokesman in Kano state, Adamu Yahaya, told the BBC that all those arrested were Muslims and officers do not target non-Muslims because they are not bound by Islamic law.

He said some of those arrested told the Sharia office that they were eating because they did not sight the Ramadan crescent themselves while others feigned sickness, but the authorities found their excuses baseless.

The 80 were admonished and released because they were ”first-time offenders”, Mr Yahaya added.

They were warned that if they were caught again, they would be taken to court. The Hisbah say they will continue with their patrols throughout Ramadan with a view to arresting Muslims who do not observe the fast.

The Ramadan fast is compulsory for all adult Muslims but some categories of people – such as those who are seriously ill – are not required to fast.

  Yahoo Boys Unleash Dogs On EFCC Operatives In Ibadan

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC operatives in Ibadan have been attacked by dogs unleashed on them by suspected yahoo boys.

According to reports, officers of the commission had stormed the suspects’ hideout at Agara area of Ibadan at the early hours of the day.

The officers were however faced with stiff resistance as one of the suspected fraudsters was reported to have instructed the guard to release their ferocious dogs to attack the operatives.

The trick, however, failed to work. It rather tasked the detectives to display their dexterity and professionalism. They were able to dislodge the dangerous dog, carry out extensive search on the apartment and effect arrest of the suspects, The Nation reports.

Again, out of desperation to conceal useful information that could help the commission in their investigation, one of the suspects smashed his android phone with the intention to destroy the gadget and deny access to the data therein.

The attempt equally failed as the operatives took possession of the broken phone and deposited it with the forensic unit for proper analysis of the recovered data.

Suspects arrested in the operation are Paul Afolabi, Balogun Ibrahim Adebayo, Izu Ibobo Chukwunalu, Abe Tolulope, Onifade Gidion Idowu, Komolafe Tosin and Igwe Kinsley Otuu.

A lady is currently in severe pains after her lower lip was bitten off by her elder sister in Lagos State

The incident occurred, this morning, during a fight between the duo at Agogo, Egbe.

  Fayemi Sacks Over 2,000 Workers Employed By Fayose

Governor Fayemi Kayode of Ekiti State has relieved over 2,000 workers in the state of their duties. 

Igbere TV gathered that the affected workers are those ‘hurriedly appointed’ by the immediate past governor, Peter Ayodele Fayose.

Igbere TV recalls that Fayose had announced their appointment after the July 2018 governoship election in the state.

The decision, according to a statement made available by Igbere TV by the Ekiti State government, followed deliberations by the State Exective Council (SEC) on the report of the committee headed by the Deputy Governor, Otunba Bisi Egbeyemi, that reviewed irregular appointments made between 2014 and 2018.

The government said the recruitment exercise violated due process.

Igbere TV gathered that the affected 2,000 workers comprises 600 teachers recruited into the Teaching Service Commission (TSC), 400 personnel employed into the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) and 1,000 injected into the system through the Office of Establishment and Training, among others.

Briefing journalists on the development in Ado on Thursday, the Commissioner for Information, Tourism and Values Orientation, Muyiwa Olumilua declared the appointments as null and void, adding that they were hurriedly done with ulterior motives and in bad faith.

The Commissioner disclosed that the governor had directed the Head of Service, Ayodeji Ajayi, to collate all available vacancies in the Civil Service, with a view to recruiting suitable and qualified Ekiti citizens into the Public Service, irrespective of religious and political affinities.

Olumilua, however, urged the affected workers to participate in the next recruitment excercise to be announced in due course.

Officers of the Nigeria Police Force, Warri Area Command have arrested three suspects over alleged child-trafficking of a two-and-half-year-old baby girl.

Those arrested included, the matron of Divine Orphanage Home, Rosemary Johnson and another Madam Rose IIogbo in Ughelli.
The third person was a lady, who allegedly bought the child at the sum of N850,000 from the aforementioned ladies.

The arrest followed a petition by the President of Nigerian Child Welfare Fund, Comrade Joshua Omorere.
Acting on the petition, Police Detectives from the Warri Area Command swung into action, effected the arrest on May 2, 2019, DAILY POST can report.
The Police also discovered and exposed a baby-making factory in Agbor, Delta State during the arrest.

During the raid, a 21-year-old pregnant girl, Isioma Monday and a staff of Divine Orphanage were also arrested at the factory, which operates as an orphanage home.

 earlier reported by DAILY POST, gave her the baby to sell.

IIogbo claimed that she sold the child to one lady who had gone through adoption process at N850, 000 in Ughelli.

She also confessed that the matron of Divine Home Orphanage at Agbor gave her another child to sell for N850,000 but people that were interested were offering N800,000, stressing that the matron of Divine Orphanage insisted it must be N850,000.
She also said, “On the 5th of December, 2018 Madam Rose returned the child to Divine Home Orphanage because Police were closing on her.”
During interrogation, the pregnant lady, Isioma Monday, who was arrested with a staff of the orphanage home, separately made contradictory statements.

Isioma Monday claimed she came to visit her aunty, a staff of Divine Orphanage Home.
But the staff of the orphanage on her part said the pregnant lady, Isioma Monday, was her younger sister of the same mother.
However, Isioma Monday later opened up to the Police that she didn’t know either the staff of the orphanage or the matron, noting that she was there to give birth and sell her child.

Reacting to the arrests made so far, President of the Nigerian Child Welfare Fund, Comrade Joshua Omorere said, “Orphanages now transfer children and sell them at will.
“The Police are currently planning on how to get Juliet Phillips from the prison to make statements on this issue and tell us where she got these children from.
“Because according to the Attorney General and Commissioner of Justice in Delta State, most children in the orphanage were stolen.

“All I want is Justice and nothing less, the matter should be thoroughly investigated and charged to Court.”

The EFCC Gombe Zonal office on May 16, 2019 secured the conviction of Atiku Mu'azu Bayum, Mohammed Adi, Ibrahim Abubakar and Abubakar Usman on a two-count charge bordering on conspiracy and theft before Justice Beatrice Iliya of the Gombe State High Court, sitting in Gombe.
 
They were alleged to have as Chairman, Chief Store Officer, Chief Accountant and Director of the Gombe State Board of Internal Revenue, respectively, conspired and stole the sum of N25,060,000 (Twenty Five Million and Sixty Thousand Naira) only, belonging to Gombe State Government.

Quote:Count two of the charge reads: “That you, Atiku Mu'azu Bayum, Mohammed Adi, Ibrahim Abubakar and Abubakar Usman sometimes between January and July 2015 at Gombe, Gombe State within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court with intent did dishonestly commit theft to wit: fraudulently convert the sum of N25,060,000 (Twenty Five Million Sixty Thousand Naira) property of Gombe State Government and thereby committed an offence contrary to and Punishable under Section 286 and 287 of the Penal Code Law, Laws of Northern Nigeria.”
They all pleaded “guilty” to the charges. Prosecuting counsel, O. Israel, urged the court to convict them accordingly. Defence counsel, L.A. Haruna on his part pleaded on behalf of his clients to temper justice with mercy as the convicts were first-time offenders and didn't waste the “precious time” of the court and pleaded guilty on the day of their arraignment and that they had made some restitution and intended to fully restitute the whole amount.
 
Justice Biatrice, thereafter, pronounced them guilty and convicted them to pay fine of N100,000 (One Hundred Thousand Naira) each following the allocutus by the defence counsel. They were also ordered to restitute the remaining amount to Gombe State Government within six months.

Woman died minutes after giving birth because of sacrifice placed in front of her father's compound, brother claims

A man has announced the death of his sister shortly after childbirth and he has blamed her death on some fetish items placed in front of the deceased's father's compound.
 
Obinna Friday claims his sister went into labour at night on the 14th of May. That same night, some "evil men" planted some fetish items in front of her father's gate. He said she gave birth successfully but started bleeding shortly after and died early the following morning.

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) in collaboration with the federal government is currently developing an initiative that will bring about a friendlier foreign exchange (forex) regime in the country, the Executive Secretary/CEO, Nigeria Investment Promotion Commission (NIPC), Ms. Yewande Sadiku, has said.
The NIPC boss, who stated this while responding to a question at Renaissance Capital’s 10th Annual Pan-Africa 1:1 Investor Conference, held in Lagos, yesterday, however, declined to give further details on the initiative, saying talks on the matter were still at an early stage.

When pressed for further comments on the proposed initiative, Sadiku said the CBN would at the appropriate time give further details.
She pointed out that from the federal government’s policy perspective, the preference was that forex rate in the country should be market-determined.
She said the Investors’ & Exporters’ forex window helped in enhancing investor confidence as well as in attracting significant inflows to the country.
Sadiku explained: “We are actually working now on another initiative that is aimed at resulting in a much friendlier forex regime. The government’s intention is market-determined and we hope to achieve that sooner, rather than later.”
The move, according to her, was to ensure that the country remains an attractive investment destination.
She explained further: “That is because we understand that in the context of the investor value chain, portfolio investors are a material and important part of it and if we don’t get the right messaging to portfolio investors, who send the right signal to the investing community, you will not achieve the target that you want to.
“The initiative we are working on is still very much in the early days and it is still difficult to talk the details. Our work in this regard is more of advocacy, the same manner we advocated for the I & E window.
“My point is that the NIPC is interested in seeing forex rates that would see more investments come to Nigeria, in line with what the government has indicated it wants to do.
“There might be short-term flips and excitement, but in the context of the long-term fundamentals, Nigeria’s fundamentals remain strong. It will be the third most populous country by 2050 and what kind of relationship do you want to have with the third most populous country in the world.
“Nigeria has the ninth largest reserves of arable land in the world, in the context of agriculture. We are interested in agriculture and agro-processing and we are also interested in agriculture and crop production based on the size of arable land that we have.”
In his presentation, the Global Chief Economist, Renaissance Capital, Mr. Charlie Robertson, urged President Muhammadu Buhari and the CBN Governor, Mr. Godwin Emefiele, to set in place, conditions that would provide jobs for four million Nigerians entering the workforce each year.
Robertson stated that industrialisation would be required to achieve this in the long-term, by pushing Gross Domestic Product growth up to 7-11 per cent annually.
In the short to medium term, he said oil prices rising above $100/bbl could achieve the same goal.
According to him, “Without either, GDP may rise from two to four per cent over Buhari’s second term. Industrialisation is not possible without raising the adult literacy rate from 60 per cent in 2015, to 70 per cent (perhaps in 2024?).
“Nigeria needs to more than double electricity consumption from the national grid, and double the investment share of GDP.”
According to the economist, to raise investment, Nigeria needs to attract, rather than deter foreign direct investment, raise taxes to reduce borrowing, improve the Ease of Doing Business, and shift spending from consumption (wages, the implicit fuel subsidy) to investment.
He advised the CBN to unify its official exchange rates, gently cut interest rates and allow the currency to depreciate to offset inflation differentials with trading partners.
He added: “We think these policies could help lift growth to the upper end of the 2-4 per cent GDP growth range noted above. We think other markets in West Africa are likely to industrialise first (Ghana) or see a strong rise in private sector debt/GDP ratios (Ivory Coast, Senegal).
“We continue to believe Africa will be a $29 trillion economy in 2050, larger than the 2012 combined GDP of the US and Eurozone, with Nigeria a $6 trillion economy in 2050, with a per capita GDP similar to Brazil today – and a football team brilliant enough to win the 2050 World Cup.”

Arik Air aircraft returns from C-Check maintenance

Arik Air, on Wednesday announced the arrival of one of its aircraft, which just returned from C-Check maintenance overseas.
The Communications Manager of the airline, Mr Ola Adebanji, disclosed the development in a statement issued in Lagos.
Adebanji explained that the aircraft, a Boeing 737-700 NG, touched down in Lagos Wednesday morning and it had since been deployed to service.

“The aircraft, which went through heavy maintenance at the Approved Maintenance Organisation (MRO) came back with fresh C-check, new exterior and interior fittings.
“It is the first of the four aircraft expected to return from maintenance this month, the other three are due to arrive between now and end of May,” he said.
Speaking on the latest development, Arik Air’s Chief Executive Officer, Capt, Roy Ilegbodu, said it was a customer focused airline and “the best interest of our passengers would always drive our decisions”.
“Some of our suspended routes will be reopened in the coming days as more of the aircraft on maintenance return from service,” he said.
Ilegbodu said the airline thanked its customers for their understanding during the period of the schedule adjustments.

MTN Nigeria is arranging local debt financing and plans to sell shares to new investors through a public offering, after listing its shares on the Nigerian Stock Exchange today.
Nigeria, MTN’s biggest market with 52.3 million users in 2017, accounts for a third of the South African group’s annual core profit, but it has faced problems in the country in recent years. In December, MTN agreed to make a $53 million payment to resolve a dispute in Nigeria. The move ended a multi-billion-dollar dividend repatriation row, hitting its share prices in Johannesburg.
MTN, owned by South Africa’s MTN Group, has been one of the main beneficiaries of Nigeria’s push to liberalise its economy over the past two decades. But it has come under increased pressure from the government to boost local ownership.

Reuters quoted MTN Group CFO, Ralph Mupita, to have said the listing was an important step towards increasing local ownership in MTN Nigeria and building the country’s equity capital markets. The company also said it was relying on local funding in naira to mitigate exchange rate volatility.
The company also said the Nigerian unit would raise debt, adding that the total level rose 44 per cent to N252 billion in the first quarter.
“This is just the beginning, we still intend to pursue a future public offer giving more Nigerians greater access to the MTN opportunity,” chief executive of MTN Nigeria, Ferdi Moolman said.
MTN decided to list its local company in Nigeria in 2016 after agreeing to pay a $1.7 billion fine to settle a SIM card dispute with the government. Earlier, the company said it planned to list in the first half of 2019.
MTN Nigeria said last week it would list 20.4 billion ordinary shares on the Nigerian stock market.
The company said capital expenditure in the first quarter, rose to N63 billion, the bulk of which went to upgrade its network, up from N18 billion same period last year. Service revenue grew 13.4 per cent to N282 billion in the first quarter, driven by a rise in voice and data income and the addition of 2.1 million mobile subscribers.
Earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization (EBITDA), a measure of operating profit, reached N150.4 billion in the three months to March 2019, up from N123 billion a year earlier, MTN said.
MTN said it targets a dividend pay-out ratio of at least 80 per cent of its net income in the medium term.

The Katsina State Police Command, have arrested four women said to be informants, girlfriends and cooks of bandits in the state.The arrested women said to be informants, girlfriends and cooks of bandits in Katsina state, were identified as Bilikisu Abubakar, 20; Rasikat Amadi; Sulie Dairu, 45; and Rakiyat Yusuf, 20.

The state's police spokesperson, SP Gambo Isah who confirmed their arrest, said the women who have strong ties with some criminals on the police wanted list, always visited Rugu Forest to attend to the needs of the bandits, including sleeping with them.Some bandits on the list include Roga Kachala said to have over 200 boys working for him, Gume Basullube, Sumail, Haruna Dum, Auta Kachala, Yauza Mai-Bakarkama, Lawali Adda, Babanyiara and Dogo.

It was gathered that one of the women Abubakar, confirmed her relationship with one of the bandits adding that she often followed him for operation. The suspects will be charged to court after investigation is concluded.

A new report revealed that 29,723 Nigerian immigrants in the US ‘overstayed’ in 2018, after arriving as non-immigrants through the air or sea port of entry (POE).The report titled: “The fiscal Year 2018 Entry/Exit Overstay Report", shows the numbers and rate of expected departures of foreigners, who arrived in the United States as non-immigrants.  

195,785 Nigerians who were given visas into the US, were expected to leave ”within the above window.” However  Nigeria had 15.18 per cent rate of overstay, and a suspected ‘In-Country Overstay’ rate of 14.81 per cent. A push further revealed that 29,723 Nigerian immigrants in the US ‘overstayed’ in 2018 (No departure record for 29,004 immigrants; while only 719 travellers left the country after their visas expired).

On the other hand, Djibouti, a small Africa country, has the highest rate of visa overstay immigrants at 180; with 403 expected departures. The numbers translate to 44.67 per cent and a Suspected In-Country Overstay rate of 43.92 per cent.

President Emmerson Mnangagwa of Zimbabwe has fired Joram Gumbo (pictured), his minister of energy and power development, over “poor electricity supply” across the country.

According to BBC, Zimbabwe is experiencing the worst electricity blackouts since 2016.

This is coming after the minister had licenced over 30 companies to provide solar power to the country and concluded plans to travel to Mozambique, a neighbouring country, to make an arrangement for an electricity supply deal.

Gumbo was replaced by Fortune Chasi, the deputy minister for transport and infrastructural development.

The Zimbabwe Electricity Transmission and Distribution Company (ZETDC), the state-owned power firm, said there would be blackouts for about eight hours daily because of a drop in output at its largest hydro plant and ageing coal-fired generators.

“The power shortfall is being managed through load shedding in order to balance the power supply available and the demand,” ZETDC had said in a public notice.

On Monday, Reuters had reported that the last time Zimbabwe experienced such serious blackouts was in 2016 after a devastating drought.

Due to low water levels and poor coal supplies to the generating plants, the country is currently producing 969 megawatts (MW) daily against peak demand of 2,100 MW.

Zimbabwe is reported to have experienced very low rainfall during the 2018-2019 raining season with most water bodies drying up.

TheCable reported how the Nigerian electricity grid collapsed twice within 24 hours last week causing blackouts in most states across the country.

The recent grid collapse was the sixth to be recorded in 2019.

By Ikechukwu Nnochiri ABUJA – Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo State has approached the Federal High Court in Abuja, seeking an order to restrain security agencies in the country from arresting him.
Okorocha told the court that some chieftains of the All Progressives Congress, APC, led by its Chairman, Adams Oshiomhole, are instigating the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, to move against him.

Consequently, he prayed the court to enforce his fundamental human rights which he said was under threat. Cited as respondents in the suit are the Attorney General of the Federation, the Inspector General of Police, the Department of State Service, the EFCC, the Independent Corrupt Practices and other related offences Commission, and the Code of Conduct Tribunal. Okorocha told the court that his travail started after he opposed the emergence of some persons as leaders of the ruling APC.

He said his adversaries in the party had since instigated the EFCC to hound him and his family members, saying they were equally behind the reason the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, refused to issue him with a certificate of return after being declared the winner of the last election in lmo West Senatorial District. The two fundamental right suits he filed before the court were marked as FHC/ABJ/CS/474/19 and FHC/ABJ/CS/475/19.

Okorocha told the court that he has, “found himself in a politically adversarial position to some powerful members of the APC over the choice of the national officers of the party before and since the convention of the party was conducted to elect new national officers of the APC”.

He said: “The applicant had supported a candidate for the position of National Chairman of the APC other than the current incumbent, Mr. Adams Oshiomhole and by reason of various events that occurred at the time including the detention of Mr. Adams Oshiomhole by the EFCC on allegations of corruption it was assumed that the applicant was a party to that incident.

Some of the supporters of Adams Oshiomhole at the time are currently very influential in the Federal Government of Nigeria, which is controlled by the APC. “These individuals including the said current National Chairman have decided to carry out a vendetta and revenge against the applicant including instigating the “Respondents against the applicant upon their spurious conclusion without evidence that the applicant is guilty of corrupt practices as Governor of Imo State.

“The respondents, proceeding from this position that the applicant is guilty unless proved innocent, between 2017 and now, have extended not less than 25 invitations to the applicant In purported investigation of projects executed by the into state government In a bid to find some material to justify their conclusion that he is guilty of corrupt practices.

“This witch hunt, is clearly politically motivated, baseless, and has been designed only to discredit and humiliate the applicant in a bid to decimate him politically. “Sometime in May 2017 the 4th respondent, acting in furtherance of the plan of the applicant’s political enemies, invaded the applicant’s house in Jos, Plateau State and while holding his staff and family members hostage ransacked the entire house in the hope to find something incriminating against the applicant.

“The matter became a subject of litigation in the Jos division of this honourable court over the validity of the search warrant the 4th respondent relied on for that invasion and although the court found that the search warrant was valid, it also confirmed at page 22 of the judgment, based on the admission of the 4th respondent, that nothing incriminating was found against the applicant.

Rather than give up their pursuit of the applicant, the respondents acting on the instigation of the applicant’s enemies, have continued the vendetta against the applicant. “Upon the conclusion of the senatorial election held on the February 23rd 2019 into the national assembly, the applicant was duly elected as senator to represent Imo West Senatorial District by the majority of lawful votes cast in the election.

“The applicant’s political adversaries within the APC were embittered by the applicant’s victory at the polls and have sworn to ensure that the applicant is either not sworn in as a senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria or is removed for not fulfilling the constitutional minimum attendance requirements. “In this regard, they instigated the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to withhold the applicant’s certificate of return on the unfounded allegation that the Returning Officer was coerced to declare the applicant the winner of the election.

“Not satisfied with the withholding of the applicant’s certificate of return, those powerful forces with the APC have commenced fresh spate of attacks against the applicant on the baseless allegation that he embezzled the funds belonging to Imo state government in order to ensure that the applicant is politically decimated..

“The plan has now reached a crescendo and desperation in view of the failure of the respondents to find anything incriminating against the applicant and the decision now taken is to arrest and detain the applicant as soon as he hands over power to the newly elected governor of Imo state on the 29tln of May 2019 and using the provisions of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act, detain him indefinitely in order that cause may be found to have him removed from his seat as a Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to which he was recently elected. “The plan has also been expanded to include a reign of terror against the applicant’s political, business associates and family members including his wife and chitdren Uioma Rochas, Uju Rochas, Uchechi Rochas, Ahamefula Rochas, Amen Rochas, Amamchi Rochas, Uzoma Anwukah and Uche Nwosu. “The applicant has not committed any offence to warrant the incessant threats of arrest, detention, the harassment and terror being unleashed upon him and his family. “It is therefore important that this honourable court as the “Fundamental Rights Court” intervene to ensure that this abuse of power and misfeasance in public office by the respondents against the applicant is abated and the fundamental rights of the applicant to be presumed innocent until proved guilty, to liberty and freedom of movement are enforced. “Unless this honourable court intervenes to enforce and/or secure the enforcement of the applicant’s fundamental rights to be presumed innocent until proven guilty and to freedom of movement and liberty by making the orders sought in this application, the 1st to 6th respondents will be used by the applicant’s political adversaries for the purpose of their infringement as stated above.

“The applicant apprehends from the above that his fundamental rights and those of his staff, associates and family members are about to be infringed by the respondents in Abuja as soon as he commences his next assignment as Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. “This honorable court has the power to grant the reliefs sought in this application to enforce the applicant’s fundamental rights.”

A panel beater who specialises in vandalising vehicles received the beating of his life after he was caught around 3AM last night at Adenike Wole Ajibode Street in Lekki Phase 1.
 
The suspect who identified himself as John from Kwale in Delta State was caught by a security officer while he was removing car parts from a Toyota Highlander, after he had already taken some other parts from a Toyota Corolla on the same street.

The panel beater who confessed to having two other accomplices that work with him, disclosed that they sell some of the car parts for N20, 000 in Oshodi.

Militants have killed 17 Nigerien soldiers in an ambush near the border with Mali while 11 soldiers are missing after the attack near the western village of Tongo.
 
Niger and other countries in the Sahel have been facing a growing militant threat from several Islamist groups. Militants belonging to al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb (AQIM) - an affiliate of al-Qaeda - are active in the region and are known to conduct cross-border raids.
 
They are most active in neighbouring Mali, where French troops intervened in 2013 to prevent them from advancing on the capital.
 
Abdourahaman Zakariyyah, a spokesperson for the Niger government said the soldiers were in pursuit of militants who attacked a high security prison 50km (30 miles) on Tuesday outside the capital, Niamey. "One of the soldiers' vehicles drove into a landmine and then the assailants started firing at our soldiers," he told the BBC's Focus on Africa programme.
 
He did not identify the perpetrators of the attack but said it happened near where US troops and five Niger soldiers were killed two years ago. Six injured soldiers have been evacuated to a hospital in the capital, as a search operation, aided by French and American troops, who have a base in Niger, continue, Mr Zakariyyah said.
Niger is part of a five nation anti-insurgency force operating in the Sahel. It includes Burkina Faso, Chad, Mali and Mauritania.

The Governor of Imo State, Rochas Okorocha, on Wednesday disclosed that history will vindicate him despite been misunderstood and seen as the most controversial governor the state ever produced.

He made the disclosure during the commissioning of the Justice Chukwudifu Akunne Oputa High Court Complex in Owerri, the state capital.
He boasted of setting a standard, which no successor in the state can beat.

According to Okorocha: “Let my works speak for me after leaving office. I am not in the business of wasting the tax payers’ money to commission projects because I believe that such funds should be channelled to other productive ventures.
“I have set a standard which any incoming governor would not beat.”
Speaking also, the state’s Chief Judge, Justice Paschal Nnadi, said the commissioning of the court complex would go a long way to reduce the current suffocating situation of insufficient court facilities.
Nnadi stated that for many years insufficient court facilities gave rise to the uncomfortable situation where two or more judges shared one court hall.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has called on the Federal Government to stop inventing excuses and blaming the opposition for its mass failures.

The PDP added that the expectation of Nigerians was for the Muhammadu Buhari Presidency to live up to the demands of their offices; instead of blaming the opposition for their self-inflicted woes.
The main opposition party was reacting to comments by the Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, where he accused it of doing everything possible to sabotage President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration.

The PDP said the minister’s tone betrays the frustration of a failed administration seeking excuses and scapegoats, instead of accepting its failures and self-inflicted woes.
The National Publicity Secretary of PDP, Kola Ologbondiyan, in a statement on Wednesday said: “it is incontrovertible that the PDP as a highly responsible political party, committed to the unity and stability of our dear nation, nurtured our democracy for 16 years and has continued to express its full respect for every arm of government including the judiciary
“It is equally undisputable that the All Progressives Congress (APC), within a period of four years, has wrecked our democratic structures, relegated and harassed judicial officers, disregarded our laws and judicial pronouncements, divided our people and practically brought our nation to its knees only for them to now turn to look for scapegoats where there are none.

“It is instructive to state that, in the course of serving our dear nation for sixteen years, the PDP was never known for intimidating and harassing judicial officers at any level.
“It is, therefore, unfortunate that the Minister of Information and Culture could suddenly recourse to making irresponsible allegations against the PDP and our Presidential candidate instead of accepting their failures.
“As a party we consider it awkward for the APC and its government, under whose only four years tenure, our judiciary has been thoroughly embarrassed, to make frivolous allegations against our party and Presidential candidate.

“It is manifestly clear that the PDP and our Presidential candidate are in court to seek justice and the issues of bias raised by our party are in public domain and in the general interest of majority of Nigerians who gave their Presidential mandate to Atiku Abubakar.
“The fact remains that the APC and its failed government owe it as a responsibility to be accountable to Nigerians; the PDP has a constitutional role to play in this accountability process and our party will not shy away from it.”

Another Nigerian Victoria Obaze becomes Mayor in uk


Mrs Victoria Obaze, a Nigerian from Imo State made history on Wednesday after she was sworn into office as the first black female Civic Mayor of London Borough of Tower Hamlets, United Kingdom (UK).

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Obaze’s inauguration on Wednesday is the latest in turn of events that have seen Nigerians emerge as Mayors in their area councils of residence in the UK.

It will be recalled that Mr Ernest Ezeajughi, and Mrs Kate Anorue, both from Anambra State, were recently sworn into office as Mayors of London Borough of Brent and Enfield, respectively.

Obaze who contested three previous councillorship elections in 2010, 2014 as well as 2016 and failed, eventually succeeded in an election conducted on May 5, 2018 in Whitechapel Ward.



She later became the Council’s Deputy Speaker following her nomination by her Councillor Colleagues from where she took over the mantle as Mayor of London Borough of Tower Hamlets.

A statement containing brief history of Obaze obtained by NAN from her close associate and UK Chapter Coordinator, Ugonwanne Social Club Nigeria Int’l, a Nigerian socio-cultural group in UK, Ms Blessing Chijekwu, revealed that the newly sworn-in Mayor had lived in Borough for over 30 years.

“For Councillor (Cllr) Obaze life is all about service to humanity with diligence. Her political experience started when she was elected as one of the board of directors to oversee the regeneration of her area, the Ocean Estate, in the 1980s.

“The move motivated her to get into politics having noticed that there were no black women in the council chambers and this led her to open a project named Healthy Life Style for Stepney Women, East London.

“The project was funded by local authority through Ocean African Caribbean Association which she and her late husband Chief Evangelist Charles Obaze, co-founded.

“She also established Ocean Saturday School aimed at ensuring school attainment for children, as well as Ocean Football Club through which young boys were able to have residential football experiences with Chelsea football Club.

“Above all, Cllr Obaze loves God with a passion; she is a member of Parochial Church Council (PCC), as well as an Executive Council member at St Dunstan’s Church of England Parish in Stepney.

“She is also a Secondary School governor in Tower Hamlets and a habitual visitor to the elderly and physically challenged in the community,” the statement quoted Chijekwu as saying.


The statement also quoted Lolo Ngozi Nwanze, President, Ugonwanne Social Club Nigeria Int’l as saying that Obaze was chosen as life matron of the club because of her meekness and morality.

“These are the virtues that have brought her to where she (Obaze) is today.”

Obaze who has four children and two grand Children attended West London College and Metropolitan University where she studied Business Administration and Community Sector Management at different times.

She also has certification in childcare which enabled her operate a registered charitable childcare centre in UK named Vicharles Play Centre. (NAN)

“Could it be that they are now aware that the electoral fraud they perpetrated during the last presidential election is about to be exposed beyond a shadow of a doubt?” the former vice president wondered. He noted that if there is anybody beating the drums of war, it is the APC leaders, whom he said issued statements threatening Nigerians and foreigners alike with ‘body bags’. Atiku described himself as a “thoroughbred democrat,” noting that he joined forces with the likes of Chief Moshood Abiola and Dr. Alex Ekwueme to resist Abacha’s dictatorship and fought for the democracy Buhari and APC were allegedly trampling on.

“For the avoidance of doubt, Atiku Abubakar resisted the Abacha dictatorship, of which President Muhammadu Buhari was a prominent member, and it is his resistance and the sacrifice of his co-travellers, like Chief MKO Abiola and Alex Ekwueme, amongst others, that gave rise to the democracy that the current government is now trampling on.

“It is preposterous that those who threatened to ‘soak the dog and the baboon in blood’ are now aukardacious enough to point the finger at lifelong democrats. Truly, if the farmer does not raise the alarm on time, the thief will accuse him of being a thief,” he said. Atiku further wondered how President Buhari, who “wined and dined with Nigeria’s most brutal dictator,” and “overthrew a democratically elected president and held a grudge against him even in death (as evidenced by the empty condolence register he left in Sokoto, last year) accuse a man who has never been as much as associated with such tendencies, of being an anti-democrat?” He said the Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, was clever by half. Atiku said Nigerians should not take the minister serious, adding, “when we have a situation where even those who employed him know that Lai Mohammed is a liar, who will even lie during the holy month of Ramadan, then why should Nigerians be surprised at this latest lie?” He advised the minister to face “the cesspool of corruption that has been exposed in his ministry by the investigative website which revealed that Mr. Mohammed’s fingers may be stickier than sticky glue.”

Meanwhile, the PDP said the APC-led Federal Government is looking for scapegoats to blame for its failure in government. Kano State governor, Abdullahi Ganduje has presented N3 million cash gift to Zainab Aliyu and Ibrahim Abubakar, who were recently released from Saudi Arabia prison.
 
Ganduje announced the donation when Federal Government delegation officially presented Zainab Aliyu and Ibrahim Abubakar to the governor at the Government House, Kano.
 
‎Ganduje said that Aliyu, who traveled for Lesser Hajj with her mother was arrested by Saudi Security Officials in December 2018, in a hotel in Madinah,” he said.
 
 The governor said that the girl was accused of possessing a bag containing illicit drugs purportedly bearing a tag with her name. He added that another passenger, Ibrahim Abubakar, unrelated to Aliyu, who also traveled on the same aircraft, was also arrested on the same day.‎
 
‎The governor, who announced the donation of N3 million gift to each of them, commended President Muhammadu Buhari, for the timely intervention to save the lives of the two victims. He also urged security agencies in Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport, to redouble their efforts in curbing such crimes.‎
 
Earlier, the Chairman of Nigeria Diaspora Commission, Abike Dabiri-Erewa, said that they were at the Government House, to officially hand over two indigenes of the state to the governor.‎

The Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Tukur Buratai has accused disgruntled politicians who lost in  the 2019 general elections, of being behind kidnapping, herdsmen attacks and other forms of criminality in the country.
 
The Army chief made the allegation when he received the Chairman House Committe on the Army in Maiduguri on Wednessday May 15th.
 
Buratai during the meeting said

  Cement Company Of Northern Nigeria Declares N16.89 Billion Revenue In Q1 2019

Cement Company of Northern Nigeria (CCNN) has announced its first quarter 2019 unaudited financial results for the period ended 31st March 2019.

The company grew its revenue from N5.39 to N16.89 billion. Year-on-Year this shows a performance growth of 213.36% for the period ended. The company's cost of sales surged from N3.1 billion to N9.1 billion.

Business Hour Nigeria reports that CCNN gross profit appreciated from N2.2 billion to N7.6 billion. This shows Year-on-Year gross profit growth of 245.5%. Whilst the company's other income grew from N116.8 million to N2.1 billion.

The company grew its Profit Before Tax (PBT) from N1.5 billion to N5.3 billion. This shows PBT growth of  253.3% on Year-on-Year performance basis. Cement Company of Northern Nigeria reported Profit After Tax (PAT) of N3.6 for the period ended. The company grew its PAT from N1.1 billion in Q1 2018 to N3.6 billion in Q1 2019. Year-on-Year the company's PAT was up by 227.3%.

However, the company's Earnings Per Share (EPS) declined by 58 Kobo per share. The company's Earnings Per Share declined from 86 Kobo to 28 Kobo. Year-on-Year CCNN EPS was down by 67.4%. 

The selling and distribution expenses soared from N245.87 million to N1 billion. Whilst its administrative expenses increased from N597.65 million to N1.29 billion.

  Investors Lose N140.86 Billion As Nigerian Stock Market Continues Tanking

The Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) opens the week tradings' on a  bearish note. The All Share-Index (ASI) declined by 1.26% to close at 28,484.44 basis points. Year-to-Date the ASI was down by 9.37%. 

The equity market capitalization closed at N10.701 trillion in contrast to N10.842 trillion recorded last week Friday. The market breadth closed with 11 gainers and 30 losers. Okomu Oil led the gainers' chart while NEM Insurance Plc led the top losers' chart. 

United Capital Plc was the most traded stock by volume. The stock sold 41.2 million units of its shares valued at N289.1 million. Guaranty Trust Bank was the most traded stock by volume. The company sold 37.9 million shares valued at N1.1 billion.

UBA sold 15.9 million units worth N96.8 million. Sterling Bank transacted 13 million units valued at N34.4 million. Transnational corporations of Nigeria ranked in 12.2 million units valued at N14.2 million.

Okomu Oil Palm Company Plc was the best-performed stock for the day. The stock appreciated by 10% to close at N77. Neimeth International Pharmaceuticals plc also appreciated by 10% to close at 55 Kobo.

AG Leventis Nigeria Plc was up by 8.33% to close at 26 Kobo. Africa Prudential Plc appreciated by 7.91% to close at N3.82. Japaul Oil completes the top five gainers for the day. The stock increased by 7.69% to close at 28 Kobo.

NEM Insurance Plc was the worst performed stock for the day. The stock shed 10% to close at N2.25. Chams Plc also depreciated by 10% to close at 36 Kobo. United Capital Plc was down by 9.37% to close at N2.32.

Goldlink Insurance Plc declined by 8.70% to close at 21 Kobo. Jaiz Bank Plc rounds up the top five losers chart. The stock went down by 8% to close at 46 Kobo.

HE HAS FAITH IN YOU

The Bible tells us that for the joy, the glory that was set before Him, Jesus endured the Cross, despising the shame (Hebrews 12:2). You’re that joy, the glory that He saw, for which He didn’t mind a criminal’s death. He saw in His mind what you and I would become by virtue of His vicarious sacrifice.

He gave His life to realize His dream for us; His dream of us becoming the glory of God; His dream of us becoming the righteousness of God and partakers of the divine nature. He gave His life so God’s plan for us to have, and enjoy life to the full would be realized. He gave His life so we could live in righteousness, prosperity, health, dominion, victory, and excellence forever. Hallelujah!

President Muhammadu Buhari will be traveling to Saudi Arabia to perform the Umrah, an optional pilgrimage on Thursday.
The trip is coming after a widely criticized 'private visit' which he embarked upon on April 24 returning May 5. It is also coming at a time of multiple corruption allegations against appointees within his cabinet and rising insecurity in the country.


Garba Shehu, senior special assistant to the president on media and publicity in a statement on Wednesday said President Buhari: "has accepted the invitation of King Salman Bin Abdulaziz, the ruler of Saudi Arabia and Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques to perform the Umrah (lesser pilgrimage) in the Kingdom.

"To this effect, the President, accompanied by close personal aides, will embark on the journey on Thursday, 16th May.
"He is expected back in the country on Tuesday, 21st May.

"Umrah is an optional but recommended pilgrimage to Makkah that can be made at any time of the year."

The Nigerian Army has laid to rest the remains of the patriotic officer and two soldiers who paid the supreme sacrifice while on clearance operations along Mauli-Borgozo axis on Monday, May 13th.
 
The late Lieutenant Colonel Yusuf Ibrahim Aminu was the Commanding Officer (CO), of 154 Task Force Battalion Borgozo. He was on a clearance operation along Mauli- Borgozo when his vehicle climbed on a buried Improvised Explosive Device which detonated resulting in losing his life and that of 2 other soldiers while others were wounded in action.
 
Commiserating with the family of the deceased, the Chief of Army Staff, Lt Gen, Tukur Buratai, commended the efforts of the entire troops of Operation Lafiya Dole in the war on terror and charged them to remain steadfast, more committed and professional for the sake of Nigeria.

The Federal Government today accused the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its presidential flag bearer in the February 23rd election, Atiku Abubakar, of planning to sabotage the Buhari-led administration. The Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, made the accusation while addressing State House correspondents in Abuja today Wednesday May 15th.
 
Reading from a prepared text titled, “PDP’s Brand of Opposition Politics Poses Great Threat to Nigeria’s Democracy,” the minister alleged that the PDP and its candidate were keen to make the country ungovernable.
 
The minister who declined to take questions after reading his text stated:
 

Quote:“The Federal Government has strongly decried the increasingly unpatriotic and desperate opposition politics being played by the PDP and its presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, warning that such dead-end opposition could be toxic for the nation’s democracy if left unchecked.
“Never in the history of politics in Nigeria has an opposition party and its presidential candidate exhibited the kind of desperate tactics being deployed by the duo of the PDP and its flag-bearer, especially since President Muhammadu Buhari overwhelmingly defeated Atiku to win the 2019 presidential election.
“Either by themselves or via their proxies, the PDP and its presidential candidate are doing everything possible to sabotage the Buhari Administration, generally overheat the polity and make Nigeria seemingly ungovernable, especially through their public utterances and their poorly-thought-out press releases before and after the 2019 general elections.
“Unless they quickly retrace their steps, they may, sooner than later, overreach themselves.
“For those who may be quick to accuse the government of crying wolf, the pre-election statement credited to the former Vice President, that unless Nigerians vote out the APC Administration, killings by herdsmen will continue and ultimately spark a series of ethnoreligious crises that will be irreversible, is looking more like a Freudian slip than anything else.
“Also, in recent times, the PDP has taken its desperation to a new low by attacking the judiciary, an action many see as indicating a reversal of the party’s hitherto self-assured stance that it has a solid case against the election of the President.
“And either by coincidence or orchestration, a faceless group emerges from nowhere calling for an overthrow of a democratically-elected government, a totally egregious act of treason.
“It beggars belief that a candidate who prides himself as a Democrat can so allow desperation to becloud his sense of propriety to such an extent that he will be associating with anti-democratic forces or making inflammatory statements.
“For acclaimed democrats, there are acceptable channels of seeking redress after an election defeat. Even President Buhari himself went to court three times to challenge election results.
“What is not acceptable is to either resort to self-help after an election defeat or to embark on a journey of subterfuge and sabotage while also mounting a legal challenge or pretending to do so.
“Worst still, painting the judiciary bad for whatever reason is anti-democratic and unconscionable.
“We want to urge the main opposition party to stop beating the drums of war, concentrate on the legal challenge by its candidate against the election of President Buhari if indeed they have any faith in the country’s judiciary, and desist from unnecessarily overheating the polity.”

The twin sons of Uganda’s State Water Minister Ronald Kibuule have drowned in the family swimming pool at their home on Monday. 
 
The exact circumstances behind the drowning of the twins identified as Roman Kato and Raiding Wasswa, remain unclear because CCTV cameras were off although the children were in the care of two male minders, the Daily monitor reported.
 
Police who responded to distress calls from the family and well-wishers took the two male domestic servants into custody for questioning. They also retrieved the corpses and took them for embalming at the City Mortuary in Mulago, Kampala.
 
“Yes, they drowned in the swimming pool, but we do not know what exactly happened because at the time of the incident the Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras were off,” said Mr Davis Lukyamuzi, an uncle of the minister.

Both Mr Kibuule and his wife, Fortunate, were away. The guards at the palatial home said the kids were playing on the expansive compound and in the care of two male minders when they drowned.
 
One of the guards, speaking on condition of anonymity in order not to jeopardise ongoing investigations, said they were unaware about the presumed freak fatal accident until one of the minders yelled that “we are dead; the kids have drowned”.

Minister Kibuule was at the time of the incident reported to be in Kampala while his wife, Fortunate, had reportedly driven to pay workers at a construction site in Namataba, which is a few kilometres from home.
 
They returned home in haste, and were visibly overcome by emotion and unable to speak on the tragedy.
 
Hundreds of mourners, many wailing loudly, milled on the compound and dozens trudged with hurried steps to the home located in Mbalala.

Women and men could be seen with hands clasped across their chests, and tears streamed endlessly on the cheeks of many who choked on words as they saturated in the pain of a parent losing twins in a family swimming pool.
 
Mukono District Police Commander, Mr Rogers Seguya, visited the home and inspected the swimming pool, which investigators are treating as a possible scene of crime.

Detectives, according to reports, will seek to establish whether the surveillance cameras had malfunctioned prior or failed only on the fateful day.

They will also try to establish if the kids’ drowning was an accident or involved foul play.
 
President Museveni as well as Mr Rebecca Kadaga, the speaker of Parliament, telephoned to condole with the bereaved family, according Mr Lukyamuzi.

Bismarck Rewane, chief executive officer of Financial Derivatives Company Limited, has asked Nigerians to brace up for an increase in the pump price of petrol.
In 2016, the Buhari administration increased a litre of petrol from N87 to N145, sparking criticism among citizens.

But making a presentation  at the Lagos Business School, Rewane said there were indications that the price of fuel would rise because government is working towards reducing subsidy payments.
He described subsidies as a huge drain on government’s revenue, adding that the World Bank put Nigeria’s total subsidy bill in 2018 at N731 billion.
“A gradual reduction in subsidy payments is anticipated. Only N305bn set aside for under-recovery in 2019 budget; expect an increase in the pump price of fuel,” he said.

“Forty per cent shortfall in provision for subsidies (under-recoveries) points to possible price increases.”
Rewane added that hike in price of petrol would result in high inflationary pressure.
He described the 2019 budget as counter-cyclical, saying the economy was in dire need of a boost.
He said with expenditures much higher than sustainable revenues, the fiscal deficit had widened by 2.15 per cent to N1.9tn, adding that the supplementary budget could not be avoided.
“Oil revenues are projected to decline due to the impact of OPEC quota on Nigeria’s oil output level,” he added.

On the new minimum wage, he said internally generated revenue remains the key to funding it, adding that it is not sustainable to rely on the federal accounts allocation committee (FAAC).
Rewane said the capacity of the economic management team will determine the success of President Muhammadu Buhari in the second term.
He projected that Buhari would have unveiled his cabinet by June, saying “the post cabinet selection squabbling will lead to splintering of the All Progressives Congress”.

Rewane added that the election tribunal results will “upset at least four governorship races”.

RCCG gospel minister allegedly commits suicide in Abuja

A gospel minister with the Redeemed Christian Church of God, RCCG, has allegedly committed suicide.
 
Michael Arowosaiye allegedly hanged himself with a belt yesterday, May 14, 2019, at a home in Sunnyvale Estate in Abuja.

The reason for the alleged suicide has not been confirmed but web users claim he went into depression due to accommodation issues he was facing.

A Kano State High Court Wednesday declared the appointment and the installation of four new emirs by the Kano State Governor, Abdullahi Ganduje, as null and void.

Justice Nasiru Saminu gave the ruling following a suit by the plaintiff, Hon. Sule Gwarzo, against the Governor and the state government, for splitting the emirate.
It ordered a return to status quo pending the hearing of the suit against the appointment of the emirs.

On Tuesday, kingmakers in the Kano emirate filed a similar case.
In the suit with number K/197/2019 filed on Tuesday at a State High Court, Ganduje, the State House of Assembly, Attorney-General of the state and five others were listed as the defendants.
The kingmakers — Yusuf Nabahani (Madakin Kano), Abdullahi Sarki Ibrahim (Makaman Kano), Bello Abubakar (Sarkin Dawaki man Tuta) and Mukhtari Adnan (Sarikin Ban Kano) — were listed as first, second, third and fourth plaintiffs respectively.

They insisted that Ganduje’s assent to the bill breaking up the emirate, was done in bad faith and the action was a desecration of centuries-old tradition.
“The defendants, in purporting to amend the Emirs (Appointment and Deposition) Law, 1984 have desecrated centuries old and highly revered traditions and heritage of the people of Kano and have uprooted the Plaintiffs various traditional titles without giving a hearing to the Plaintiffs and their clans or having regards to ancestral history by hurriedly enacting the Kano State Emirs law, 2019.
“The defendants desecrated the ancestral history and all known laws connected with or pertaining to Kano Emirate’s customs and tradition by: (a) establishing Bichi Emirate comprising of 9 local governments including Dawakin Tofa and Dambatta, the ancestral homes of the 1st and 4th plaintiffs. The first plaintiffs have her been under any authority of Bichi district.

“(b) Establishing Gaya Emirate comprising 8 local governments including Wudil and Gabasawa, the ancestral homes of the 2nd and 3rd plaintiffs,” the suit read.
The kingmakers are also seeking a declaration that Ganduje lacks the power under the existing, “emirs laws of Kano state, 1991 to appoint emirs of Bichi, Rano, Gaya, Karaye or any other person and that the appointments made are unconstitutional, illegal, null and void.”
DAILY POST reports that the state now has five emirates: Kano, Rano, Gaya, Karaye and Bichi. All Emirs would have equal powers and are to be on the same first-class status as Sanusi.

The new heads include Aminu Ado Bayero, son of late emir of Kano, Ado Bayero, who is the pioneer emir of the newly established Bichi Emirate.
The Emir of Gaya is Alhaji Ibrahim Abdulkadir Gaya; the Emir of Rano is Alhaji Tafida Abubakar Ila while the Emir of Karaye is Dr. Alhaji Ibrahim Abukakar ll.
As it stands, Kano emirate headed by Sanusi has 10 local governments: Kano Municipal, Tarauni, Dala, Nassarawa, Fagge, Gwale, Kumbotso, Ungogo, Dawakin Kudu and Minjibir.

Rano emirate will control Rano, Bunkure, Kibiya, Takai, Sumaila, Kura, Doguwa, Tudun Wada, Kiru, Bebeji.
Gaya emirate has Gaya, Ajingi, Albasu, Wudil, Garko, Warawa, Gezawa, Gabasawa LGAs.
Karaye, Rogo, Gwarzo, Kabo Rimin Gado, Madobi, Garun Malam LGAs will be under the Karaye emirate.

Bichi emirate will control Bichi, Bagwai, Shanono, Tsanyawa, Kunchi, Makoda, Danbatta, Dawakin Tofa, Tofa local governments.

Federal High Court in Abuja has asked the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) and three others from proceeding with their renewed probe of Senate President, Bukola Saraki.


The Department of State Services (DSS), the Independent Corrupt Practices and other related offences Commission (ICPC) and the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT) are also affected by the restraining orders.

Justice Taiwo gave the verdict on Tuesday following two ex-parte motions filed by Saraki with two fundamental rights enforcement applications, marked: FHC/ABJ/CS/507/2019 and FHC/ABJ/CS/508/2019.


The orders, according to the judge, are to subsist pending the hearing and conclusion of the two fundamental rights suits by Saraki.

Earlier, Saraki’s lawyer, Sunday Onubi, arguing told the court that the respondents would cause irreparable damages to the applicant’s rights if not restrained before the substantive suits were heard.

Onubi prayed the court that, “for an order directing the respondents, by themselves, their servants, agents, privies or officers to stay all actions in connection with the subject matter of this suit, pending the hearing and determination of the originating motion on notice.”


He said the motion was supported by 37 paragraphs affidavit, deposed to by the applicant (Saraki), with four exhibits attached, marked ABS 1, to ABS 4

Justice Taiwo in his ruling said: “There is no doubt that the Fundamental Rights Enforcement Procedure Rules 2009 is a special proceeding with its stated rules and procedure.

“By the provision of Order 4(3) of the Fundamental Rights-Civil Procedure Rules, 2009, the court may, if satisfied that hardship may be caused to the applicant before the service of an application where liberty or life of the applicant is involved, hear the application ex parte upon such interim reliefs as the justice of the application may demand.



“There is no doubt that, in making the interim reliefs or orders, the court is guided, even in the exercise of its discretion judicially and judiciously applied by the law and statues.

“Here comes in the rules and of course, the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

“One of the considerations, which is paramount, is the hardship the applicant may go through, between the service of the processes and the hearing of the main motion, amongst others.



“I have gone through the affidavit in support of the ex parte application particularly paragraphs 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20, 20, 21, 22, 23, 24, 25, 26, 27, 28, 29, 30, 31, 32, 33, 34, and 35.

“I also duly considered the averments in the affidavit of urgency and all the exhibits attached.

“I am of the view, after due consideration of the aforesaid averments, that this court ought to make the order being sought by the applicant pending the hearing and determination of the originating motion on notice.



“To do otherwise and not to restrain the respondents by asking them not to stay actions will result in the court being faced with a fait accompli.

“I further come to my conclusion that the applicant is entitled to this order in view of the trite law that once the court is seized of a matter, parties are bound not to do anything that will make nugatory any order of the court by staying action.

“This is akin to ordering that parties maintain the status quo. However, the court must make a positive order.



“Therefore the application made ex parte pursuant to the law, succeeds. The respondents are hereby directed, either by themselves, their servants, agents, privies or officers to stay all actions in connection with the subject of this suit pending the hearing and determination of the origination motion on notice.

“I further order that the respondents shall be served fort with the originating processes and they shall file, within five days of being served, their responses.

“The hearing is fixed for May 23.”

Justice Taiwo made a similar pronouncement in relation to the second motion

Former minister of Aviation and PDP stalwart, Femi Fani-Kayode have claimed in his latest tweet that 99% if not 100% of President Muhammadu Buhari's supporters will bury their faces in his smelly arse if he wanted them to do it. 

According to FFK:

If @MBuhari asked his supporters to put their faces under his smelly old arse and literally eat his poo, 99% of them would gladly do so. That is how badly he has damaged their psyche and destroyed their self-esteem. To them Buhari is worthy of worship and is greater than god.


Isn't Mr. Kayode going too far on the way he constantly criticise Mr. President? Critics is good in democracy but insults is going too far. Yes I know things needs to be said the way it should be, but political correctness is good and advisable sometimes.

Emirates Group records AED 2.3 billion (US$ 631 million) profit 2018-19 results

EMIRATES Group today announced its 31st consecutive year of profit and steady business expansion as it released today its 2018-19 Annual Report, posting a profit of AED 2.3 billion (US$ 631 million) for the financial year ended 31 March 2019, down 44% from last year.


The Group’s revenue reached AED 109.3 billion (US$ 29.8 billion), an increase of 7% over last year’s results. The Group’s cash balance was AED 22.2 billion (US$ 6.0 billion), down 13% from last year mainly due to large investments into the business, including significant acquisitions and payment of last year’s AED 2 billion (US$ 545 million) dividend.


In line with the overall profit, the Group declared a dividend of AED 500 million (US$ 136 million) to the Investment Corporation of Dubai for 2018-19.


His Highness (H.H.) Higher oil prices and the strengthened US dollar eroded our earnings, even as competition intensified in our key markets. The uptick in global airfreight demand from the previous year appears to have gone into reverse gear, and we also saw travel demand weaken, particularly in our region, impacting both dnata and Emirates.


“Every business cycle is different, and we continue to work smart and hard to tackle the challenges and take advantage of opportunities. Our goal has always been to build a profitable, sustainable, and responsible business based in Dubai, and these principles continue to guide our decisions and investments. In 2018-19, Emirates and dnata delivered our 31st consecutive year of profit, recorded growth across the business, and invested in initiatives and infrastructure that will secure our future success.”

In 2018-19, the Group collectively invested AED 14.6 billion (US$ 3.9 billion) in new aircraft and equipment, the acquisition of companies, modern facilities, the latest technologies, and staff initiatives, a significant increase over last year’s investment spend of AED 9.0 billion (US$ 2.5 billion).


In February, Emirates announced a commitment for 40 A330-900s and 30 A350-900s worth US$ 21.4 billion at list prices in an agreement signed with Airbus, to be delivered from 2021 and 2024 respectively. The airline will also receive 14 more A380 deliveries from 2019 until the end of 2021, taking its total A380 order book to 123 units.
dnata’s key investments during the year included: the acquisitions of Q Catering and Snap Fresh in Australia, and 121 Inflight Catering in the US; the buy-out of shares to become the owner of Dubai Express, Freightworks LLC; and a 51% majority stakeholder of Bolloré Logistics LLC, UAE; the build of new cargo and pharma handling facilities in Belgium, the US, the UK, the Netherlands, Australia, Singapore and Pakistan; the acquisition of German tour operator Tropo, and a majority stake in BD4travel, a company providing artificial intelligence driven IT solutions in the travel sector.


Across its more than 120 subsidiaries, the Group’s total workforce increased by 2% to 105,286, representing over 160 different nationalities, mainly influenced by dnata’s new acquisitions and its international business expansion.
Sheikh Ahmed said: “In 2018-19, we were steadfast with our cost discipline while expanding our business and growing revenues. By slowing the recruitment of non-operational roles, and implementing new technology systems and new work structures, we’ve improved productivity and retarded manpower cost increases.”



He concluded: “It’s hard to predict the year ahead, but both Emirates and dnata are well positioned to navigate speed bumps, as well as to compete and succeed in the global marketplace. We must continually up our game, that’s why we invest in our people, technology, and infrastructure to help us maintain our competitive edge. As a responsible business, we also invest resources towards supporting communities, conservation and environmental initiatives, as well as incubating talent and innovation that will propel our industry in the future.”


Emirates performance


Emirates’ total passenger and cargo capacity crossed the 63 billion mark, to 63.3 billion ATKMs at the end of 2018-19, cementing its position as the world’s largest international carrier. The airline moderately increased capacity during the year over 2017-18 by 3%, with a focus on yield improvement.


Emirates received 13 new aircraft during the financial year, comprising seven A380s and six Boeing 777-300ERs, including the last 777-300ER on its order book. The next 777 delivery is planned for 2020, when Emirates receives its first 777X aircraft.


During 2018-19, Emirates phased out 11 older aircraft, bringing its total fleet count to 270 at the end of March. This fleet roll-over involving 24 aircraft was again one of the largest managed in a year, keeping Emirates’ average fleet age at a youthful 6.1 years.



It reinforces Emirates’ strategy to operate a young and modern fleet, and live up to its “Fly Better” brand promise as modern aircraft are better for the environment, better for operations, and better for customers.


During the year, Emirates launched three new passenger destinations: London Stansted (UK), Santiago (Chile) and Edinburgh (Scotland), and reinstated services to Sabiha Gokcen (Turkey). It also added flight capacity to 14 existing destinations and upgraded capacity to six cities, offering customers more choice of flight timings and onward connections.
Supplementing its organic network growth, Emirates expanded its global connectivity and customer proposition through new codeshare agreements signed with Jetstar Pacific and China Southern Airlines. It also enhanced its commercial strategic partnership with South African Airways.


The Emirates-flydubai partnership continued to develop, with Emirates customers now able to access 67 more destinations served by flydubai, and enjoy greater connectivity with 11 flydubai flights operating from Emirates Terminal 3. The partnership alignment also saw Emirates Skywards become the loyalty programme for both Emirates and flydubai.


Despite stiff competition across its key markets, Emirates increased its revenue by 6% to AED 97.9 billion (US$ 26.7 billion). The relative strengthening of the US dollar against currencies in many of Emirates’ key markets had an AED 572 million (US$ 156 million) negative impact to the airline’s bottom line, a stark contrast to the previous year’s positive currency impact of AED 661 million (US$ 180 million).


Total operating costs increased by 8% over the 2017-18 financial year. The average price of jet fuel climbed by a further 22% during the financial year after last year’s 15% increase. Including a 3% higher uplift in line with capacity increase, the airline’s fuel bill increased substantially by 25% over last year to AED 30.8 billion (US$ 8.4 billion). This is the biggest-ever fuel bill for the airline, accounting for 32% of operating costs, compared to 28% in 2017-18. Fuel remained the biggest cost component for the airline.


Against a backdrop of high fuel prices, strong competitive pressure, and unfavourable currency impact, the airline reported a profit of AED 871 million (US$ 237 million), a decline of 69% over last year’s results, and a profit margin of 0.9%.


Overall passenger traffic remained steady, as Emirates carried 58.6 million passengers (up 0.2%). With seat capacity increasing by 4%, the airline achieved a Passenger Seat Factor of 76.8%. The slight decline in passenger seat factor compared to last year’s 77.5%, reflects the impact of slowing regional economies on travel demand, and strong competition in many markets.


An increase in market fares and a favourable class mix helped support a passenger yield increase of more than 3% to 26.2 fils (7.1 US cents) per Revenue Passenger Kilometre (RPKM), although the full impact was partly offset by the strengthening of the US dollar against most currencies.


During the year, Emirates raised AED 14.2 billion (US$ 3.9 billion) to fund its fleet growth, using a combination of term loans, finance and operating leases.
Testament to the increasing depth of the Japanese structured financing market for Emirates, all six 777-300ER aircraft delivered were financed via a Japanese Operating Lease with a Call Option (JOLCO) raising funding of more than US$ 1 billion. Emirates has now raised over AED 28 billion (US$ 7.6 billion) from the Japanese structured financing market since 2014.


A US$ 600 million corporate Sukuk issued in March 2018 financed 2 A380 deliveries; and the remaining 5 A380 aircraft were taken on a mix of operating lease, Export Credit Agency (ECA) backed finance leases, and finance leases arranged from institutional investors and bank base from Korea, Germany, UK and Middle East.


These deals demonstrate Emirates’ ability to unlock diverse financing sources through access to global liquidity, underscoring its sound financials and the strong investor confidence in the airline’s business model.


Emirates closed the financial year with a healthy level of AED 17.0 billion (US$ 4.6 billion) of cash assets.
Revenue generated from across Emirates’ six regions continues to be well-balanced, with no region contributing more than 30% of overall revenues. Europe was the highest revenue contributing region with AED 28.3 billion (US$ 7.7 billion), up 6% from 2017-18. East Asia and Australasia follows closely with AED 26.6 billion (US$ 7.2 billion), up 5%. The Americas region recorded revenue growth at AED 14.5 billion (US$ 3.9 billion), up 8%. Africa revenue increased by 9% to AED 10.2 billion (US$ 2.8 billion), whereas Gulf and Middle East revenue decreased by 3% to AED 8.3 billion (US$ 2.3 billion). West Asia and Indian Ocean revenue increased by 6% to AED 8.1 billion (US$ 2.2 billion).


Through the year, Emirates introduced product and service improvements on board, on the ground, and online.
Highlights include: the completion of a US$ 150 million programme to refurbish its entire Boeing 777-200LR fleet with new, wider Business Class seats and a fully refreshed Economy Class cabin; the launch of the Emirates Vintage Collection featuring fine wines that have been stored for 15 years; and new luxury products in First and Business Class developed in collaboration with brands like Bowers & Wilkins, Bulgari and BYREDO.


On the ground, Emirates introduced a new service so customers in Dubai can check-in for their flights from their homes, hotel or office, and have their luggage transported prior to their flight; it added a new dedicated lounge in Cairo and refurbished the existing Emirates Lounges in New York and Rome; and launched pilot trials for the world’s first ‘biometric path’ at Dubai airport utilising the latest biometric technology to ease Emirates passengers through check-in, immigration formalities, and boarding.
Online, Emirates became the first airline to launch 3D seat models using web-based virtual reality technology, allowing customers to preview its onboard product and select seats. It also launched a new feature on its mobile app, so customers can browse the thousands of movies, music and shows on offer, create personal playlists before they fly, and then sync from their devices to their personal seatback screens when they board.


Emirates SkyCargo continued to deliver a strong performance in a highly competitive market with dampening demand, contributing to 14% of the airline’s total transport revenue.



In an airfreight market facing unrelenting downward pressure on yields and slowing demand, Emirates’ cargo division reported a revenue of AED 13.1 billion (US$ 3.6 billion), an increase of 5% over last year, while tonnage carried slightly increased by 1% to reach 2.7 million tonnes.


Freight yield per Freight Tonne Kilometre (FTKM) for the 2nd consecutive year increased by a further 3%, demonstrating Emirates SkyCargo’s ability to retain and win customers on value despite fuel price increases, and a weakened demand in many markets.
Emirates’ SkyCargo’s total freighter fleet stood at 12 Boeing 777Fs. In addition to belly-hold capacity to Emirates’ new passenger destinations, Emirates SkyCargo launched a new freighter service to Bogota (Columbia), and resumed freighter services to Erbil (Iraq).


Emirates SkyCargo continued to develop innovative, bespoke products tailored to key industry sectors. In April, it launched Emirates AOG, a new airfreight product designed to transport aircraft parts quickly across the globe. 


This was followed in August by the launch of Emirates Pets and Emirates Pets Plus, which are new and enhanced air transportation products to ensure the safety and comfort of pets with services such as veterinary checks, document clearances, door-to-door transport, and the booking of return flights for pets.


Emirates’ hotels recorded revenue of AED 669 million (US$ 182 million), a decline of 10% over last year with competition further on the rise in the UAE market impacting average room rates and occupancy levels.


dnata performance


For 2018-19, dnata recorded its most profitable year with AED 1.4 billion (US$ 394 million) profit. This includes gains from a one-time transaction where dnata divested its 22% stake in the travel management company Hogg Robinson Group (HRG), during HRG’s acquisition by Amex Travel Business Group. Without this one-time transaction, dnata profits will be down 15% compared to the same period last year.


dnata’s total revenue grew to AED 14.4 billion (US$ 3.9 billion), up 10%. This reflects its continued business growth across its four business divisions – both organic through customer retention and new contract wins; as well as via its new acquisitions. dnata’s international business now accounts for 70% of its revenue.


Laying the foundations for its future growth, dnata invested close to AED 1.1 billion (US$ 314 million) in acquisitions, new facilities and equipment, leading-edge technologies and people development during the year.


In 2018-19, dnata’s operating costs increased by 11% to AED 13.1 billion (US$ 3.6 billion), in line with organic growth across its business divisions, coupled with integrating the newly acquired companies mainly across its catering division and international airport operations.


dnata’s cash balance was AED 5.1 billion (US$ 1.4 billion), an increase of 4%. The business delivered an AED 1.4 billion (US$ 386 million) cash flow from operating activities in 2018-19, which is in line with its enhanced cash balance and puts the business in a solid position to finance its investments.


Revenue from dnata’s UAE Airport Operations, including ground and cargo handling increased by 2% to reach AED 3.2 billion (US$ 878 million).


The number of aircraft movements handled by dnata in the UAE remained flat at 211,000. This reflects the impact of the region’s challenging aviation environment on many of dnata’s airline customers. dnata’s Cargo handling slightly declined by 1% to 727,000 tonnes, impacted by lower demand in the overall air cargo market.



In 2018-19, dnata strengthened its position in the freight forwarding industry with the acquisition of more shares to become the sole owner of Dubai Express and Freightworks LLC; and a 51% majority stakeholder of Bolloré Logistics LLC, UAE that operates in 106 countries.


dnata also acquired a majority stake in DUBZ, a company that emerged from Dubai’s incubator programme Intelak, providing baggage delivery services to passengers arriving in Dubai, and for passengers departing Dubai to check-in their baggage and get boarding passes from anywhere in the city.


It continued to invest in technology to improve operations and customer satisfaction. Highlights include the launch of: a new cutting-edge resource management system that supports AI, autonomous vehicles, and advanced analytics to optimise staff operations at both DXB and DWC; and a new one cargo tool, a first for ground handlers, to digitise the booking process and service, ensuring a seamless experience at cargo delivery bays, and a unified engagement for customers between freight forwarders and dnata.


dnata’s International Airport Operations division grew revenue by 5% to AED 4.0 billion (US$ 1.1 billion), on account of increasing business volumes, opening of new locations and winning new contracts. International airport operations continue to represent the largest business segment in dnata by revenue contribution. 



The number of aircraft handled by the division further increased substantially by 9% to 488,000, and Cargo noted a growth of 1% to 2.4 million tonnes of handled goods.

During the year, dnata won over 100 new contracts in key markets, including the United States, Canada, the UK, Australia and Italy, and coupled it with solid customer retention.
dnata significantly enhanced its cargo capabilities in 2018-19. It debuted operations in Belgium with a new 14,000 m² cargo centre at Brussels Airport, built tailor-made cargo solutions across new facilities in Dallas, London Heathrow, Adelaide and Karachi, and refurbished existing facilities in Singapore and Amsterdam. In response to customer growth, dnata invested to expand at Gatwick and Manchester, and opened new cargo facilities in Islamabad and Multan airports including Pakistan’s first automated storage and retrieval system.



dnata also invested in its pharma facilities, offering more handling capability than any other company in the UK, the Netherlands, Australia and Singapore. Its ability to provide safe and reliable pharma handling services globally was recognised with IATA’s CIEV Pharma certification in Dubai and Toronto, and GDP certification in London and Zurich.


In Italy, dnata increased its share in Airport Handling SpA, a Milan-based ground handler, to 70%. At Zurich Airport, dnata was re-awarded the ground and cargo handling licence till 2025, enabling it to serve customers without interruptions. In North America, dnata launched ground and cargo handling at Los Angeles and began passenger services at New York’s JFK.
dnata’s Catering business accounted for AED 2.6 billion (US$ 717 million) of dnata’s revenue, significantly up by 23%. The inflight catering business uplifted more than 70 million meals to airline customers, an increase of 27%.



This result includes the impact of two major acquisitions – Qantas’ catering businesses, Q Catering and Snap Fresh in Australia, and 121 Inflight Catering in the US – as well as new and expanded customer partnerships, particularly in the UAE, Romania, Czech Republic and Italy.


During the year, dnata inaugurated a 2,000 m² state-of-the-art catering facility in Canberra with the capacity to produce more than 60,000 meals a month. In North America, dnata launched operations in New York, Nashville and Orlando through the acquisition of 121 Inflight Catering, and will commence operations in purpose-built facilities in Boston, Houston and Vancouver in the first quarter of the new financial year, with further facilities in the build across the U.S.


Revenue from dnata’s Travel Services division has increased by 9% to AED 3.7 billion (US$ 1.0 billion). The underlying total transaction value (TTV) of travel services sold grew by 2% to AED 11.5 billion (US$ 3.1 billion).


This performance reflects dnata’s ability to tap into, and serve a broad and diverse array of travel segments, partially offsetting the slowing demand for corporate and consumer travel in the UK and in the UAE – its two biggest markets.
In 2018-19, dnata entered the German market and expanded its travel network in Europe with its acquisition of Tropo, a tour operator selling through online travel agents and independent travel agencies. It also acquired a majority stake in BD4travel (Big Data for Travel), an award-winning tech company which provides artificial intelligence driven IT solutions in the travel sector.



dnata also significantly grew its contact centre operations with the completion of its second facility in Clark, Philippines, and the purchase of a facility in Belgrade taking its operations to 14 locations in the UAE, Serbia, the Philippines, India and the UK. With added capability and capacity, dnata successfully expanded its service contracts with key customers including a new five-year agreement with Etihad Airways to run its contact centre operations globally.

Arik Air adjusts schedule to cope with aircraft maintenance, regrets inconvenience

ARIK AIR has said that due to mandatory  maintenance on its aircraft it has adjusted its scheduled operations to cope with the exigencies and has sued for understanding while it regrets any inconvenience.

The airline’s fleet has witnessed a reduction in number in the last two weeks due to the fact that some aircraft have been flown overseas to Approved Maintenance Organisation (AMO) in Europe.


The management stated that in order to maintain schedule integrity and ensure flights depart on time, it had to cut down on the number of flights operated daily.


The airline further stated that as a safety conscious airline, it takes aircraft maintenance very seriously. It however assures its customers that the aircraft will start returning from maintenance in the next few days while scheduled operations will be back to normal in a couple of weeks.


The Chief Executive Officer of Arik Air, Captain Roy Ilegbodu elaborated: “We regret any inconveniences that our customers may suffer due to this schedule adjustment. We are almost done with the checks and our customers will start seeing the effect with improved services.”


The airline appealed to its customers to bear with it at this period while assuring that their safety and comfort will not be compromised.

The Samata Nagar police on Tuesday, May 14, said it has arrested a Nigerian couple who allegedly steal data and pin numbers of customers at ATM's in different locations by inserting a skimmer and micro cameras in order to create clone cards of the data.
 
The police identified the duo as Isaiah Ogunleye Seyi, 34, and Rosy Colin Warri, 37, both residing in Nalasopara in the Palghar district, may be living illegally in India as their passports couldn't be found at their house.
 
The incident came to light when the YES bank branch at the Chennai head office received a number of complaints about the 'Yes bank' ATM centre that is situated in Thakur village in Kandivali East. When the bank official checked the skimmer machine, a micro camera was found installed in the ATM.
 
A complaint was immediately filed at the local Samta Nagar police station by the bank authorities.
"They had placed a skimmer and micro-camera at a Yes Bank ATM kiosk in Thakur village. After a customer approached police claiming that he had seen a skimmer attached to the ATM, we started investigations," said senior inspector Raju Kasbe, Samta Nagar police station.
 
They began to lay a trap and were waiting for hours outside the ATM centre. On May 12, 2019, they achieved success as they managed to catch the suspect, who returned back in order to take the skimmer machine and the micro camera.
 
The police formed four teams and posted them outside the ATM kiosk. Two cops, dressed as guards, took charge of the kiosk and stood at the door, while the others stayed not too far in civvies. Around 2am on Sunday, Seyi walked into the kiosk. Minutes later, he stepped out looking confused and as the police closed in, he tried to flee in an auto. When the police followed him, he jumped out of the auto and tried to flee on foot. Cops nabbed him after a kilometre-long chase.
"We chased him down after he had run over a kilometre" he added.
 
Seyi told the police about the involvement of his girlfriend, who too was arrested.
During their interrogation, it was revealed that Seyi came to Mumbai on a business visa while Colin had visited the city in order to undergo some treatments.

 
The couple was booked under provisions of IPC for cheating, besides the Information Technology Act. The police said the couple initially refused to cooperate.
"They said they could not speak Hindi or English. We even got an interpretor," said senior inspector Kasbe. The duo also pretended they had nothing to do with the crime.
 
The police have recovered two mobiles, three inoperative debit cards for cloning, a skimmer and a microcam. Bank officials told the police that data of at least 25 customers had been stolen.
"We are probing if the couple has been booked for similar crimes in the past. They have been sent to police custody till May 17." said the official.
 
It was under the guidance of Zone XII DCP, Vinay Kumar Rathod, Senior Inspector Raju Kasbe of Samta Nagar police station and detection officers API Shirdram Maitre, API Nitin Andhade, Sachin Dhobi Shivalkar, Rohan Gaikwad, Gautam Torane, Sanjay More, Vijay Suryawansi, Abhimanyu Gaya, Rajendra Dalve who also played a key role in getting hold of the accused and exposing them.

ABUJA – The Civil Defence, Fire, Immigration and Prisons Services Board CDFIPB has approved the abolition of dichotomy between holders of Bachelor’s Degree and Higher National Diploma in the Services under the Ministry of Interior.



This was contained in a statement issued Tuesday in Abuja and signed by the Secretary of the board Mallam
AI-Sassan S. Yakmut.
“The Board chaired by the Honourable Minister of Interior, retired Gen. Abdulrahman Bello Dambazau gave the approval at the Board‘s meeting held between 9th and 10th May, 2019 in Abuja.

Operatives attached to Operation Puff Adder have arrested notorious criminals who specialize in snatching handbags at Upper Iweka, Onitsha.
 
 
Spokesperson of the Anambra Police Command, Haruna Mohammed, who confirmed the arrest  said that on Tuesday, May 14, at about 6:30am, following the flag off of operation Puff Adder in Onitsha by the Commissioner of Police CP Mustapha Dandaura, Police operatives attached to Special Anti Robbery Squad (SARS) and operation "Puff Adder" in conjunction with local vigilante  arrested at upper Iweka Onitsha, one Ugwuanyi Ifeanyi 'm' aged 21 years and one Sopulu Ugwoma 'm' aged 22 years. 
 
 
The suspects who hail from Nsukka, Enugu State are among the hoodlums terrorising Upper Iwekka and Owerri road axis. A single barrel fabricated short gun was recovered from them as exhibit.
 
 
The case is under investigation after which suspects would be charged to Court for prosecution.
 
 
It would be recalled that on the 9/5/2019  the Command had mobilized personnel and logistics at upper Iweka to curtail the menace of robbery and handbags snatching syndicates in the area through operation Puff Adder.

  Herbalist Kwaku Bonsam Enters Church To Collect His Juju From Pastor

A popular herbalist in Ghana Kwaku Bonsam has reportedly stormed a church in the West African country to retrieve his Juju from a pastor.

In the video, the herbalist and his crew could be seen disrupting activities in the church while telling the pastor to return the Juju he collected from him.

Kwaku Bonsam was heard saying “I told you to be patient” but it was not certain if he was speaking directly with the pastor, who was totally confounded by the unexpected move of the herbalist.

In case you don’t know who Kwaku Bonsam is, in the year 2014 he was at war with Nigeria and Africa’s most popular seer, Prophet T.B Joshua, where he vowed to expose the Nigerian cleric and chase him out of Ghana.

Recently he stated in an interviews that he has pastor-clients across the African continent – About 1700 of them – and they approach him for different charms to boost membership in their churches, Pulse NG reports.

“Over 1, 700 pastors and so called men of God from different parts of Africa have approached me, seeking powers to perform miracles, including Prophet T.B Joshua from Nigeria. He is my boy. I challenge him to come out and deny this.

Apart from the pastors, many prominent business people and celebrated church founders in Africa frequent my shrine for my services and if they deny, I am going to name them.”

Bonsam, who operates from a shrine at Sa-Peiman, a village on the outskirts of Nsawam in east Ghana, said his god is called Kofi-Kofi and provides him with supernatural powers that are desperately needed by pastors from all walks of life.

TSA is a unified structure of government bank accounts where revenue accruing to Ministries, Departments and Agencies are paid into one account before disbursement. The policy enhances the consolidation and optimal use of public funds.

Surprisingly, the legislature and the judiciary are yet to key into almost four years after the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari made it mandatory for all MDAs and all arms of government.

The refusal of the judiciary and legislature to join the platform which also seeks to entrench transparency, accountability and ease of transactions across government establishments was announced yesterday in Abuja by the director in charge of TSA in the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation (OAGF), Mr. Sylva Okolieaboh.

He told journalists that the refusal of both the judiciary and the legislature to join the platform was simply “political”.

Okolieaboh said: “In terms of coverage, everybody is in apart from the judiciary and the National Assembly. But their non-involvement is something that is a little bit political. It’s something we intend to look into in the coming months.”

The director, who said the policy enjoys 100 per cent support from the executive, quickly remarked that “the coverage is not 100 per cent. The inability of the judiciary and the National Assembly to join is political. But I believe it’s something that can be sorted out…”

He also disclosed that the TSA policy has recorded about N30 trillion transactions, with about N10 trillion passing through the account in terms of cash remittance and withdrawals.

According to him, “if you are looking at transactions in terms of turnover, we should be talking of about N20trillion and N30 trillion. Remember money is in and out of the TSA.”

Okolieaboh spoke on the sideline of a visit by a delegation from The Gambia to Nigeria on a European Union (EU)-funded visit to understudy the implementation of TSA in the country.

The Gambian team led by the permanent secretary, Ministry of Finance and Economic Affairs, Ada Gaya and the country’s accountant-general, Momodou Lamin Bah, met with some government officials, including the minister of Finance, Zainab Ahmed, the accountant-general of the federation, who was represented by the director of Funds in OAGF, Muhammad Usman, in Abuja.

Okolieaboh, however, did not disclose the current balance in the TSA.

In her welcome address, Ahmed said that the coming of government officials from The Gambia to understudy the successful implementation of TSA in Nigeria reaffirmed the fact that what Nigeria had done with the policy was a good example.

Ahmed said: “TSA has helped us to enforce our liquidity management. We have been able to track transactions that are coming in or going out. And every agency of government has an account in the TSA. Because the funds are pooled, it has helped us to enhance liquidity management.

“Without TSA, you have a lot of challenges with accounting preparations and liquidity management,” she added and advised the visitors to also understudy the implementation of the TSA in some states of the federation that have differences in operation with the federal government.

Ahmed further charged the delegation to learn from the Nigerian experience and improve on management of their country’s funds.

The Gambia’s accountant-general said that the aim of the trip is to “make a big impact, a big outcome from this visit. We want to make sure all areas are covered using technology. We want to know how Nigeria has done it. We want to enhance the payment system with EFG. We want to do away with manual payment. We want to know how you are handling revenue management,” he stated.

The Gambian High Commissioner to Nigeria, Amadou Sheikh Taal, expressed optimism that the delegation would learn a lot from Nigeria’s TSA policy. “That is the way it should be because we are members of one community,” he said, adding that if the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) is able to achieve a single currency, “it will help us in terms of trade, and there is free movement of people; trade will be facilitated.”


Reps Decry Reckless Spending By MDAs

Meanwhile, the House of Representatives has expressed worry over the reckless spending of public funds by MDAs.

The chairman of the House Committee on Public Accounts, Hon. Kinsley Chinda, stated this yesterday during an interaction with newsmen in Abuja on the activities of the committee.

Chinday said that nothing has really changed from the reckless system of public spending by MDAs.

He said: “Not much has changed. Public spending is still not very responsible and so we need to begin to change. One of the problems we have is that our institutions are very weak, the government is not making efforts to strengthen the institutions and, therefore, when you talk about the fight against corruption, you find out that it might not be sustained because the institutions that ought to fight corruption are not strengthened.”

He stated that unless the Audit Commission Bill is assented to by the president, reckless spending would continue to derail the fight against corruption.

The lawmaker revealed that the committee has cleared the auditor-general report from 2010 to 2014 and also laid the 2010 report before the National Assembly.

Chinda disclosed that 552 MDAs were queried by the office of the auditor-general between 2010 and 2014, adding that of that number, the committee was able to consider 512 of the queries.

He said: “During the exercise, the committee was also able to, in 2010, recovered or mapped out the recovery sum of N1. 967billion. And then, we also referred to the relevant authorities; that is, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), and the Nigeria Police, the sum of N72. 567 billion and $1. 819 million for recovery.

“Among the fixed assets, two Peugeot 504 cars, one Peugeot 406 valued N1.46million, and then one berretta pistol and 13 round live ammunition were also returned to the federal government,” he stated.

The Kano State House of Assembly (KNHA), had last week approved the amendment of the Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs law, paving way for the decentralisation of the Kano Emirate council. The bill, known as Kano Emirs Appointment and Deposition Amendment Bill 2019 was promptly signed into law by Governor Abdullahi Ganduje.

It allows for the creation of four more first class emirs Rano, Karaye, Bichi and Gaya councils. The assembly embarked on its earlier plans to amend the law following a petition filed before the house by Ibrahim Chambers. The petitioner demanded for the upgrading of some traditional rulers to the status of 1st class emirs. Chambers in the petition sought for the creation of the four additional 1st class emirate councils in Karaye, Bichi, Rano and Gaya. 

According to the petition, the establishment of the emirate councils will bring more development to the people of the area. The committee earlier set up by the assembly to look into the issue of reviewing the law presented its report before the legislators on Tuesday. Reading the joint committees report before the floor of the house last week Tuesday, the majority leader, Alhaji Baffa Danagundi, said the report also recommended the review of the law. According to him, the decision followed wide consultation with stakeholders, adding that the feedback the committee received from the public, massively supported the upgrade of those emirate councils. He said the response received clearly showed that the need to upgrade the traditional rulers was necessary. 

According to Danagundi, the law if signed into law by the Governor of the state, Dr Abdullahi Ganduje, the emirate council, except Bichi, will have their own kingmakers. He explained that the Bichi emirate council would have its Kingmakers from the old emirate council, Gidan Dabo in particular. According to Danagundi, the creation of the new first class emirs would bring more job opportunities, boost the economy, and ensure security of the state.

Governor Ganduje, who spoke immediately after signing the bill into law, said “this is what the people of Kano State want. “This will encourage active and deeper participation of people of Kano State especially in the rural communities in the affairs of the state. “It will also encourage active participation of traditional rulers in the areas of agriculture, education, health and security.” The governor also said that there was need to upgrade the traditional rulers based on their historical antecedents so that aspirations and dreams of their forefathers would come true. Ganduje added that all other processes for the take off of the new emirates would be completed while letters of appointment and dates of Coronation of the new first class emirs would be fixed. 

The governor also signed six other bills into law. The bills are; Kano State Administration of Criminal Justice Law 2019, Kano State Public Health Law 2019 and Kano State Water and Sanitation Sector Reform Law 2019. Others are, Kano State College of Health Science and Technology Law 2019, Kano State Sharia Courts Amendment Law 2019, Kano State Pension and Rights of Governors and Deputy Law 2019 and Kano State Pension and Right of Speaker and Deputy Speaker Law 2019.

  Nigerians Paid Less For Cooking Gas In April 2019 – Nbs

The price of cooking gas in Nigeria decreased by -0.87% month-on-month and decreased by -0.57% year-on-year, a National Bureau of Statistics, NBS, report has shown.

The report titled, Liquefied Petroleum Gas, LPG, (Cooking Gas) price watch, was published on Tuesday by the bureau.

The average price for the refilling of a 5kg cylinder for Liquefied Petroleum Gas (Cooking Gas) decreased by -0.87% month-on-month and -0.57% year-on-year to N2,046.53 in April 2019 from N2,064.45 in March 2019.

“States with the highest average price for the refilling of a 5kg cylinder for Liquefied Petroleum Gas (Cooking Gas) were Bauchi (N2,513.33), Adamawa (N2,375.00) and Borno (N2,362.50)”.

“States with the lowest average price for the refilling of a 5kg cylinder for Liquefied Petroleum Gas (Cooking Gas) were Osun (N1,766.66), Oyo (N1,790.38) and Kaduna (N1,800.00)”.

The NBS report also showed that the average price for the refilling of a 12.5kg cylinder for Liquefied Petroleum Gas (Cooking Gas) decreased by -0.13% month-on-month and -0.35% year-on-year to N4,523.91 in April 2019 from N4,4259.48 in March 2019.

“States with the highest average price for the refilling of a 12.5kg cylinder for Liquefied Petroleum Gas (Cooking Gas) were Cross River (N4,813.64), Akwa Ibom (N4,720.00) and Abia (N4,691.67)”.

“States with the lowest average price for the refilling of a 12.5kg cylinder for Liquefied Petroleum Gas (Cooking Gas) were Kano (N3,809.72), Adamawa (N4,000.00) and Niger (N4,000.00)”.

  Inflation Increases By 11.37% In April 2019; 0.12% Higher Than March 2019 Rate

The consumer price index, (CPI) which measures inflation increased by 11.37 per cent (year-on-year) in April 2019. This is 0.12 per cent points higher than the rate recorded in March 2019 (11.25) per cent.

Increases were recorded in all COICOP divisions that yielded the Headline index.

On a month-on-month basis, the Headline index increased by 0.94 percent in April 2019, this is 0.15 percent rate higher than the rate recorded in March 2019 (0.79) percent.

The percentage change in the average composite CPI for the twelve months period ending April 2019 over the average of the CPI for the previous twelve months period was 11.31 percent, showing 0.09 percent point from 11.40 percent recorded in March 2019.

The urban inflation rate increased by 11.70 percent (year-on-year) in April 2019 from 11.54 percent recorded in March 2019, while the rural inflation rate increased by 11.08 percent in April 2019 from 10.99 percent in March 2019.

On a month-on-month basis, the urban index rose by 1.00 percent in April 2019, up by 0.19 from 0.81 percent recorded in March 2019, while the rural index also rose by 0.90 percent in

April 2019, up by 0.13 from the rate recorded in March 2019 (0.77) percent.

The corresponding twelve-month year-on-year average percentage change for the urban index is 11.69 percent in April 2019. This is less than 11.78 percent reported in March 2019, while the corresponding rural inflation rate in April 2019 is 11.00 percent compared to 11.08 percent recorded in March 2019.

Food Index

The composite food index rose by 13.34 percent in April 2019 compared to 13.45 percent in March 2019.

This rise in the food index was caused by increases in prices of Meat, Fish, Oils and fats, Bread and cereals, Fish, Milk, Cheese and egg, Potatoes, yam and other tubers, Fruits and Vegetables.

On a month-on-month basis, the food sub-index increased by 1.14 percent in April 2019, up by 0.26 percent points from 0.88 percent recorded in March 2019.

The average annual rate of change of the Food sub-index for the twelve-month period ending April 2019 over the previous twelve-month average was 13.34 percent, 0.08 percent points from the average annual rate of change recorded in March 2019 (13.42) percent.

All Items Less Farm Produce

The “All items less farm produce’’ or Core inflation, which excludes the prices of volatile agricultural produce stood at 9.3 percent in April 2019, down by 0.2 percent when compared with 9.5 percent recorded in March 2019.

On a month-on-month basis, the core sub-index increased by 0.70 percent in April 2019. This was up by 0.17 percent when compared with 0.53 percent recorded in March 2019.

The highest increases were recorded in prices of Medical services, Hospital services, Dental Services, Actual and imputed rentals for housing, Cleaning, repair and hire of clothing, Tobacco, Vehicle spare parts, Major household appliances, tobacco and garments.

The average 12-month annual rate of change of the index was 9.91 percent for the twelve-month period ending April 2019; this is 0.13 percent points lower than 10.04 percent recorded in March 2019.

State Profiles

In analysing price movements under this section, note that the CPI is weighted by consumption expenditure patterns which differ across states. Accordingly, the weight assigned to a particular food or non-food item may differ from state to state making interstate comparisons of consumption basket inadvisable and potentially misleading.

All Items Inflation

In April 2019, all items inflation on year on year basis was highest in Kebbi (14.82%), Bauchi (14.42%) and Zamfara (13.99%), while Abia (10.12%) Delta (9.94%) and Cross River (9.48%) recorded the slowest rise in headline Year on Year inflation.

On month on month basis, however, April 2019 all items inflation was highest in Bauchi (2.10%), Kebbi (1.88%) and Ogun (1.63%), while Plateau (0.35%), Rivers (0.28%) and Kogi (0.18%) recorded the slowest rise.

Food Inflation

In April 2019, food inflation on a year on year basis was highest in Kaduna (16.77%), Kebbi (16.75%) and Kwara (16.34%), while Rivers (12.01%), Bayelsa (11.25%) and Kogi (10.49%) recorded the slowest rise.

On month on month basis however, April 2019 food inflation was highest in Edo (2.55%), Kebbi (2.34%) and Ogun (2.28%), while Rivers recorded no change, Abuja and Kogi recorded food price deflation or negative inflation (general decrease in the general price level of goods and services or a negative inflation rate).

Two illegal gold dealers forfeit N39m, property to FG

EFCC, on Tuesday, May 14, 2019, secured the conviction of two allegedly illegal gold dealers, Bukar Mandara Zarami, Managing Director, Bukar Mandara Zarami Limited, and Kar Nap Fenan Wuyep before Justice Muslim S. Hassan of the Federal High Court sitting in Ikoyi, Lagos.
 
The convicts alongside a company, Bukar Mandara Zarami Limited, were re-arraigned today on an amended two -count charge bordering on possession of 35.58 kilogrammes of Gold Bars wrapped in six bags without appropriate permit.

Quote:Count one reads: “That you, Bukar Mandara Zarami, on or about the 9th day of November, 2018 in Nigeria, within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court, dealt in 35.58 kilogrammes of gold bars wrapped in six bags without appropriate permit; and you, therefore, committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 134© of the Nigerian Mineral and Mining Act, 2007.”
“Count two reads: “That you, “Kar Nap Fenan Wuyep, on or about the 22nd day of May, 2018 in Nigeria, within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court , without going through any financial institution, accepted cash payment of the sum of $19,440(Nineteen Thousand , Four Hundred and Forty United States Dollars), from one Bakkkuk Steven Goyol, which sum exceeded the amount authorized by the Law; and, you hereby committed an offence contrary to Section 1)(a), Section 16(1) (d) of the Money Laundering Prohibition Act 2011 as Amended and punishable under Section 16(2)(b) of the same Act.”
The defendants pleaded guilty to the charge preferred against them. In view of their plea, the prosecution counsel, Rotimi Oyedepo, sought the leave of the court to review the facts of the case. Oyedepo informed the court that the first defendant, Zarami, was arrested at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Ikeja, Lagos on November 11, 2018 with 35.58 kilogrammes of Gold Bars wrapped in six bags.
 
He further stated that “He was brought to the Lagos Zonal office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, where the gold bars were measured and counted in the presence of the first defendant, his counsel, a representative from the Ministry of Mines and Steel. All parties present signed the measurements document.”
 
The prosecution sought to tender in evidence the signed measurement document and the first defendant’s boarding pass. Both the document and the boarding pass of the first defendant were admitted in evidence as exhibits P1 and P2.
 
The prosecution counsel further told the court that investigations revealed that the first and second defendants did not have the appropriate permit to possess or deal in 35.58kg of gold.
Oyedepo also told the court that, though the first defendant, in his statement to the EFCC, stated that he gave an official of the Ministry, Steven Bakkuk, about N3, 000,000 (Three Million Naira) as royalty, investigation showed that the actual amount he was supposed to pay as royalty was N6, 772, 64,16k (Six Million, Seven Hundred and Seventy -two Thousand, Sixty- four Naira, Sixteen Kobo).

Quote:Oyedepo said: “This shows clearly that there was no appropriate permit for that quantity of Gold Bars. Investigation further revealed that instead of the official from the Ministry, who received the money from the first defendant, to put the funds in the treasury, he transferred the sum of N700,000.00 (Seven Hundred Thousand Naira) to the third defendant, who is a Director in the Ministry of Mines and Steel.
“This led to further investigation into the account of Bakkuk, whose account was used for transfers of unlawful enrichment. It was discovered that about N28m in tranches was sent to the third defendant.
“On May 22, 2018, the sum of $19,440 (Nineteen Thousand, Four Hundred and Forty United States Dollars) in cash was given to the third defendant, which is in excess of the amount authorized by Law to be received in cash and it constitutes an offence against Money Laundering Act 2011.”
The prosecution sought to tender the statement of account of Bakkuk in United Bank for Africa, UBA, and the statements of both the first and third defendants. The documents were admitted in evidence as exhibits P3, P4 and P5, respectively.
 
The prosecution counsel also informed the court that the defendants had entered a plea bargain with the prosecution, saying, “The first defendant has issued a cheque of N3, 000,000 (Three Million Naira) in favour of the Federal Government as one of the terms agreed upon in the plea bargain.
Quote:“The first defendant, as part of the plea bargain, also agreed to forfeit the undeclared 5.5 kilogrammes of Gold Bars to the Federal Government. It was also agreed that the EFCC, in conjunction with the Deputy Chief Registrar of this Honorable Court, would facilitate the sale of the forfeited Gold Bars and the proceeds will be remitted into the Consolidated Revenue Funds Account of the Federal Government of Nigeria. Third defendant, in the plea bargain, agreed to pay a fine of N10, 000,000.00 (Ten Million Naira) and forfeit the recovered Access Bank drafts to the tune of N36, 000, 00 (Thirty-six Million Naira). 
In view of their guilty plea, the prosecution counsel, Oyedepo, urged the court to convict the defendants on the amended charge and prayed the court to sentence them to the terms agreed in the plea bargain. Justice Hassan, while considering the terms of the plea bargain, convicted the defendants and further held that “the plea bargain is made the judgment of the court.”

The defence headquarters on Tuesday dissociated the armed forces of Nigeria from the circulation of document, calling for the overthrow of the democratically elected government led by President Muhammadu Buhari.
 
In a statement issued by Muhammed Wabi, deputy director of defence information, the DHQ accused a group, “Nigerian Continuity and Progress’’ as being behind the document.
 
Wabi alleged that the document called for the setting up of an “interim government’’ in place of the elected government.

Quote:“The Armed Forces of Nigeria wishes to dissociate itself from the rascality and intentions as espoused in a document being circulated by a faceless group named Nigerian Continuity and Progress calling for support of a revolution to oust the current democratically elected government and in its place establish an illegitimate interim government,” the statement read.
“The AFN outrightly condemns the undemocratic and demonic actions of the author of the document.
“Accordingly, members of the public are enjoined to discountenance the content of the documents being circulated by NCP and equally condemned in totality, the call to derail our hard-earned democracy.”
 
The statement stressed that the armed forces of Nigeria is very mindful of its constitutional responsibilities and would not be misled into any act that would undermine democracy as enshrined in the 1999 Constitution as amended.

RHAPSODY OF REALITIES

WEDNESDAY, 15TH MAY.

WE LIVE IN THE SPIRIT.

If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit (Galatians 5:25).

As Christians, we don’t go in and out of the Spirit; we live in the Spirit. There’re two expressions for being in the Spirit: one is to be in a trance or in a vision. In that sense, your physical senses are more or less suspended, and that’s a temporal experience.

The other and more important expression of being in the Spirit is being born into the Spirit. This is when you become aware and alive to the spirit-realm through the Word and the Holy Ghost, and live in that consciousness even though you’re in this world and your physical senses are conscious of your natural environment. Howbeit, you’re living with the mindset and consciousness of the heavenly being that you are. You see the same things with other people, but you have a different interpretation and a different understanding.

Our theme scripture admonishes that if we live in the Spirit, we should also walk in the Spirit. In other words, since you’re born into the realm of the Spirit, since you live in the Spirit, act accordingly. Act with the consciousness that you’re in the Spirit and let that consciousness dictate your physical condition.

For example, when the children of Israel left Egypt, the Bible tells us that they carried their own atmosphere with them: “And the LORD went before them by day in a pillar of a cloud, to lead them the way; and by night in a pillar of fire, to give them light; to go by day and night” (Exodus 13:21). They had the pillar of cloud by day and the pillar of fire by night. The biting cold at night, and scorching heat by day, didn’t affect them because they were in the Holy Ghost atmosphere.

Today, we live in the same Holy Ghost atmosphere, in Christ. The Holy Ghost lives in you, and you carry Him everywhere. Therefore, you have His atmosphere, which makes you different. That’s why you can come into a place, where everybody is sad and depressed, and things change; because you came in with the atmosphere of joy. People are under the spell of darkness and failure, and you come in there with brightness and victory, because you’re the light of the world. Hallelujah!

Dominate your environment with the atmosphere of the Spirit. Walk in the Spirit, for that’s the realm from which, and into which, you’re born of God.

PRAYER

Thank you precious Holy Spirit for being my peculiar atmosphere and advantage in life; you’ve made my life very different and beautiful. I rule and dominate my world with the atmosphere of joy, peace, success and victory, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.

President Muhammadu Buhari has invited the Senate President, Bukola Saraki, to the presidential villa Abuja.

A source close to the seat of power made the disclosure to DAILY POST Tuesday afternoon.

According to the invitation sent earlier in the day, the duo will meet tonight.

It is unclear if the parley will be private as during Ramadan, the president invites heads of security agencies and parastatals; lawmakers, religions and traditional leaders; businessmen, entertainment personalities, youths among others to break the fast with him.

The meeting will hold amid fresh probe of the former Kwara governor by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC.

On Tuesday, Ibrahim Magu, the acting chairman, declared that the fresh investigation of Saraki, was not a witch-hunt.

Magu said the commission does not witch-hunt any government official irrespective of their political background.

Addressing journalists at the EFCC’s headquarters in Abuja, Magu disclosed that the Commission only investigates people it suspects of being involved in corrupt practices.

“It is not personal, we are not after anybody. His case is not different from other individuals that are being investigated”, he said.

“The EFCC does not pursue people who do not have corruption cases. If you are not corrupt, we do not invite you. If you are not a 419 or internet fraudster, we would never invite you.

”We do our homework very well. Sometimes we conduct our investigations for up to six months, we have been investigating people for more than five years.”

Breaking: Residents protest insecurity, destroys Buhari, Masari billboards in Katsina

Residents of Batsari Local Government Area of Katsina State has on Tuesday afternoon took to the major streets of the town to protest the daily attacks of bandits they experience recently.

Katsina Post learned that the protesters, comprising grown-up men and children were carrying cardboard papers with different inscriptions calling on the government both state and the Federal and security agencies to step up their games and protect them.
We also learned that the angry protesters burnt tires and billboards of President Muhammadu Buhari and Governor Aminu Bello Masari in a visible anger and prostration mood.

Recall that on Friday last week, bandits attacked Wagini village of Batsari local government area of Katsina State, killing one person and injuring three others.


The gunmen, who at about midnight, stormed the village, shooting sporadically and setting ablaze cars and houses belonging to the locals.

The deceased, whose identity was yet to be ascertained, was buried this morning after Janaza prayer while the injured were rushed to Katsina General hospital.

Many people are already fleeing the village as sources told our reporter that the attack might not be unconnected to the killing of one suspected bandit by some Yan Sakai (civilian task force) a day earlier to the attack.

Tribunal adjourns hearing suits challenging President Buhari’s victory till May 22nd

The chairman of the Tribunal and President of the Court of Appeal, Justice Zainab Bulkachuwa, has adjourned hearing all applications emanating from the Hope Democratic Party’s petition and others challenging the victory of President Buhari in the February 23 presidential election.  
 
Hope Democratic Party (HDP) had earlier filed a motion seeking an order of the presidential election tribunal restraining President Buhari from presenting himself to be sworn-in on May 29th, 2019.
 
The party is also seeking an order restraining the Chief Justice of Nigeria from swearing-in, administering the oath of office and oath of allegiance to the president on May 29th, 2019. The Hope Democratic Party claimed that inspite of the pendency of the legal action against President Buhari, he has been making frantic efforts and preparation for his inauguration on May 29, 2019, by the CJN.  
 
The Hope Democratic Party also said the petition has been served on President Buhari and pleadings have been exchanged.  Although, the petitioner said it has announced the application, the respondent including counsels to President Buhari, the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) said they have not been served with the motion.  
 
In response, counsel to INEC asked the tribunal to award a cost of N1million against the petitioner – Hope Democratic Party.  On his part counsel to President Buhari, Mr Wole Olanipekun did not ask for cost but however said he needs time to go through the application.  He also told the tribunal that he has an application on behalf of the president seeking to dismiss the petition of the Hope Democratic Party.  
 
Counsel to President Buhari, Wole Olanipekun notified the tribunal of an application he filed seeking the dismissal of the petition of the Hope Democratic Party.  Counsel to the Hope Democratic Party, Mr Oliver Enya in his reply told the tribunal that he will be objecting to the application because it touches on facts that are in the substantive suit.  
 
The tribunal, therefore, said it will longer hear the application to stop the President’s inauguration because parties have not been served. The tribunal then adjourned hearing to May 22.
 
Other petitions challenging Buhari’s victory are filed by other political parties. They include the major opposition party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar.
