VIO officials allegedly kill Ebonyi Elder statesman

An Elderstatesman in Ebonyi state, Geoffery Mgbada, has reportedly been killed by suspected members of Vehicle Inspection Officers, VIO along the Presco-Ezza road, Abakaliki today, Tuesday May 14th.

Mgbada who was until his death the Secretary of Ebonyi State Elders Council, was said to have been driving with his wife when he was accosted by the VIO officials. An arguemnt ensued between Mgbada and the officials who reportedly pushed him, causing him to hit his head on the concrete road. He was rushed to the Alex Ekwueme Federal University Teaching Hospital, Abakaliki where he was confirmed dead and his remains deposited in the hospital’s mortuary.

Reacting to Mgbada's death, the state governor, Dave Umahi, in a statement released by his Chief Press Secretary, Emmanuel Uzor, described the death of the elder statesman as callous and ordered a full investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death. The statement in part reads

Quote:“The Governor on hearing about the death of Chief Mgbada expressed great sadness and ordered the Commissioner of Police to arrest and prosecute the suspects who paraded themselves as VIO Officials. Let it be known that the Governor in a town-hall meeting with Ebonyians proscribed all task-force agents working under any guise using the state government as cover.
“In the proscription order, the Governor also dissolved all revenue and tax agents in the state at all levels with a promise to convoke another town hall meeting where a new tax and other revenue will be deliberated and agreed upon and the Governor is yet to convene this meeting before this ugly incident.
“The Governor is saddened by this careless death and wishes to dissociate the state government from the illegal activities of the VIO and other task force agents in the state and directs for immediate arrest and prosecution of such illegal tax or revenue agents.“

Three members of the VIO team were immediately arrested by the anti -kidnapping unit of the Nigeria Police while the leader of the team, an old man was equally arrested.

Farewell message to the workaholic Governor of Lagos State - Eedris Abdulkareem drops farewell song for Ambode

Veteran Nigerian rapper, Eedris Abdulkafreem has just dropped a farewell song in honour of the outgoing executive governor of Lagos state, His Excellency Akinwunmi Ambode who he says 'will go down in history as one of the most energetic, people oriented and workaholic chief executives of Nigeria's bursting commercial nerve centre and centre of excellence known as Lagos state'.

According to Eedris. 'Akinwunmi Ambode who came into office on May 29, 2015, is going to leave a very big pair of shoes that will be hard to fill in the Alausa government house when he eventually hands over the reins of power to Babajide Sanwo Olu on the 29th of this month of May 2019, after 4 years of uncommon achievements and meritorious service'.

Quote:It's note worthy to remark at this juncture that most Lagosians including myself felt cheated when Ambode was denied a second term ticket by his party for some filmsy excuses bordering on his alleged "party apathy" or something akin to that!
For a governor who achieved so much in such a short time to be dropped like that without recourse to the true feelings of Lagosians as against the feelings of a few party faithfuls smacks of negligence and nonchalant attitude on the part of the state party hierarchy and machinery!
This is my personal view of the matter which of course corresponds with the feelings of most Lagosians I have had the privilege to speak with on this matter.
Personally, I am going to miss Akinwunmi Ambode!
I am going to miss his unbiased and wide range developmental strides. I am going to miss his good naturedness. I am going to miss his undiluted and sincere love for the creative arts!
I am going to miss all his well laid plans of action for the emerging Lagos mega City. I am going to miss his love for the State and all Lagosians.
I'll definitely miss triple A for who he is!
No Lagosian worth his Salt will be uncharitable enough to deny the positive impact of Ambode's four years tenure, and no one living and working in the state will deny not ever feeling the positive energy and charisma of his administration!
No human being is infallible, so Ambode has his own short comings too. But as a leader, I will always hail and appreciate him because he undoubtedly performed marvellously well.
I hope and pray that his tomorrow will be better than his today.
And for his detractors, I can only say that time alone will be the judge!
As a social crusader, activist and a performing artiste, I pray that we have an Ambode in Aso Rock soon so that our nation Nigeria can attain the height destined for it!
With people like Ambode in the helm of affairs, the "jaga jagadness" of Nigeria can be overturned and cured for the betterment of our society and the entire citizenry.
More blessings, honor, Power and grace my amiable governor Akinwunmi Ambode as you embark on the next phase of your illustrious life after May 29, 2019!
As I say farewell in this open missive to you Sir, I'll be releasing a track I just recorded with same title (FAREWELL TO AMBODE) in commemoration of your unforgettable tenure as Lagos state governor. The single is my own token to Your Excellency for a wonderful job well done and is slated to hit the air in a couple of days!
God bless you and yours our dear amiable Triple A...
With excess amount of Love from Eedris Abdulkareem.

Bus Driver Detained For Six Years Wins N10m Against Nigerian Police

A bus driver who was detained for 6 years without trial, has won a N10m lawsuit against the Nigerian Police at the Federal High Court in Lagos on Monday. The commercial bus driver, Jones Ofori who was detained for an alleged robbery without trial since 2013, had his counter lawsuit filed on his behalf by his lawyer, Adewale Fadipe.

He was reportedly arrested by the police in 2013 after a bus given to him by his employer, one Mr Ikechukwu, went missing from where he parked it overnight in the Ajah area of Lagos.Jones who was first detained for two weeks at the Ajiwe Police Station, Ajah after a complaint was made; was subsequently transferred to the office of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad in Ikeja, where he was further detained for two weeks.

However after he was charged with robbery before a state’s magistrate’s court which remanded him in prison custody, he was kept in prison and never arraigned again.  Justice Muslim Hassan who ruled on the case in which the bus driver detained for six years won N10m against the Nigerian police, said he had no other option but to grant the relief sought by Ofori because his arrest and detention without trial violated his fundamental rights

Toddler calls 911 to report that he and 6 other kids are alone in hot car

A mother has been arrested after a toddler called 911 to report he and six other kids had been left alone in a hot car.

The young child made the call to dispatchers in Charles County, Maryland, around 1 p.m. on Friday, authorities said in a press release. The child didn’t know where they were, but the operator was able to pinpoint the location of the vehicle to the St. Charles Towne Center, according to the statement.

When officers responded, they found seven children between the ages of 2 and 4 in the vehicle with the windows rolled up and the car not running. Shortly after the children were removed from the car and treated at the scene, the driver arrived.

The driver is a 37-year-old woman. She had been shopping inside the mall for at least 20 minutes, leaving the kids alone in a hot car.

Cars transform into ovens when direct sunlight heats objects inside and this can cause death. At least 800 children have died from vehicular heatstroke since 1998.

"It is against the law to leave a child under the age of 8 unattended inside a motor vehicle if the caregiver is out of sight of the child unless a reliable person at least 13-years-old remains with the child," the sheriff's office said.

"It is also dangerous to leave anyone, including pets, inside a motor vehicle especially as outside temperatures become warmer. The temperature inside a parked car can quickly rise to extremely high and even fatal levels in a short period of time."

The woman is the mother of two of the children and was babysitting the others, according to the sheriff’s office. She was arrested and charged with confinement of children inside a motor vehicle, but may face additional charges
The penalty for leaving children unattended is as much as $500 in fines, 30 days in jail, or both, according to Maryland state law.

Commuters feared dead as cars are engulfed in flames after NNPC tanker spilled its content in Isolo

Commuters are feared dead after cars were engulfed in flames when an NNPC tanker spilt its contents at Oke Afa in Isolo, Lagos.

The tanker reportedly fell at the Oke Afa bridge yesterday at about 5pm and spilt its content. Sadly, not enough action was taken to avert a tragedy. The highly inflammable substance that spilled onto the road from the tanker caused a fire this morning, at about 6:30 am.

There is no report of the number of casualties at the moment but social media users report that at least one person died in the fire.

Videos from the scene show a man, who had been burned, running from the fire with his burnt clothes sticking to his skin.

After the tanker fell on Monday evening, web user had taken to Twitter to warn that the scene was a disaster waiting to happen because the contents of the tanker spilled onto the road, but, apparently, adequate action wasn't taken.

Kiyawa said the suspect, who was nearly lynched by the mob, was arrested at the scene and the exhibit of knife with blood stain recovered from him.

Governor Wike sacks Commissioner of Power, Shedrach Chukwu

Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State has sacked the State Commissioner of Power, Hon Shedrach Chukwu.

This is according to a statement by Simeon Nwakaudu, Special Assistant to the Rivers State Governor, Electronic Media.

In his communique on Monday, Nwakaudu said the Governor directed the sacked commissioner to submit all Government Documents and Property in his possession to the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Power.

The sack comes a day after Governor Wike recalled the 12 Local Government Council Chairmen earlier suspended by his Administration.  In a statement on Sunday, the Governor charged the recalled Council Chairmen to diligently serve their people and shun all forms of lackadaisical behaviour in governance.

While charging the recalled Council Chairmen to tackle security challenges in their respective local government areas, Wike warned that any Chairman who continues to act in breach of extant laws would be shown the way out.

Two Nigerians charged with 'Yahoo Yahoo' in Singapore

Two Nigerian men believed to be members of an internet love scam syndicate were charged in Singapore today with recruiting local women to collect money for them.

According the police, such scams where victims part with cash after a fraudster feigns romantic interest in them, are a growing concern in the city-state with police reporting 660 cases last year.

The Nigerians identified in local news reports as Oladayo Opeyemi Awolola, 34, and Gbolahan Ayobami Awolola, 37 were arrested by Malaysian authorities in Kuala Lumpur last month and sent to Singapore on Monday.

The men allegedly recruited two Singaporean women “as money mules to receive criminal proceeds linked to internet love scams in Singapore” between 2017 and 2018, according to a police statement. The women received Sg$85,700 ($63,000) during that period and turned the money over to syndicate members in Malaysia, police said.

The Nigerians could be jailed for up to five years each and fined if convicted.  It is the first time that suspects based overseas and involved in internet love scams have been arrested and sent to Singapore for prosecution, police said.

Most of the internet love scams reported last year in the city-state involved fraudsters claiming to have sent parcels containing luxury items or money. Their local accomplices would call the “recipients” and claim the parcels were being held by the authorities for inspection, and would only be released if they transferred money to a bank account.

Christian lawyers raise alarm over national security

Christian Lawyers Fellowship Of Nigeria, CLASFON, has expressed dismay over the continuous downward slide of the state of security in the country.

The body noted that the security challenges were evident in various cases of killing of innocent and hapless citizens and non-citizens whose security and protection is the primary function of government.
A communique jointly issued by Arome Okwori and Olatunji Omole, National President and National Secretary at the President-In-Council meeting of CLASFON at Aba, Abia state said, “CLASFON is saddened at the continuous downward slide of the state of security in our nation as evidenced in various cases of killing of innocent and hapless citizens and non-citizens whose security and protection is the primary function of government.

“Incidences also abound in the daily kidnap and abduction of citizens and non-citizens in most States of the Federation.
CLASFON calls on the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, to take seriously the responsibility of the protection of the lives and properties of all residents of Nigeria as provided by the Constitution and other relevant laws.”
Analysing the recent general elections in the country, it noted, “CLASFON observes with dismay the widespread irregularities and total disregard for the rules of engagement as contained in extant laws by major stakeholders that characterised the general elections conducted recently by the Independent National Election Commission (INEC).”
CLASFON urged the federal government to heed the call for electoral reforms with a view to giving Nigeria an electoral system that would dignify Nigeria in the comity of truly democratic nations.

“CLASFON further calls on members of the recently constituted Election Petition Tribunals at all levels who are perceived to have personal interest by reason of their personal affiliations to recuse themselves in the interest of justice, good conscience and fair play.
“CLASFON observes with grave concern the persistent failure of the government to work assiduously to facilitate the release of Leah Sharibu and other abducted school girls.
“CLASFON calls upon the federal government of Nigeria to leave no stone unturned to secure the release of Leah Sharibu and other girls in the custody and captivity of the Book Haram insurgents.

“CLASFON observes with dismay the flagrant disregard of the Constitution in the arrest and continued detention without charge of the traditional and community leaders of the Adara Chiefdom in Kajuru Local Area of Kaduna State.
“CLASFON calls on the governor of Kaduna state to respect the rule of law as enshrined in the Nigerian constitution in compliance with his oaths of allegiance and of office,” participants at the meeting observed.
Participants observed with dismay the neglect of the welfare of the staff of Kogi State Judiciary by the non-payment of their salaries resulting in the deterioration and near collapse of the justice system in Kogi State.

“CLASFON also observes the unconstitutional means deployed in driving Government Policy by the Kogi State Governor. We view steps taken in this direction as a flagrant usurpation of the powers conferred on constitutional organ and tantamount to dictatorial despotism.
“The said action of the Governor led to the strike that has shut down the courts for several months thereby denying common citizens access to justice. We, therefore, demand that the Governor of Kogi State should follow constitutional means in driving governance since Nigeria is a constitutional democracy,” the communique explained.

Electricity Generation Falls To 2,447MW From 4,129MW

The nation’s power generation dropped by 1,682 megawatts on Monday from 4,129.2MW on Sunday.

Data from the Nigeria Electricity System Operator, an arm of the Transmission Company of Nigeria, showed that generation stood at 2,441MW as of 6.00 am on Monday.

Total power generation rose from zero megawatt as of 6.00 am on Friday to 3,235MW on Saturday, according to the data.

The power grid reportedly collapsed on Wednesday and Thursday last week, worsening electricity supply in many parts of the country.

The Managing Director, TCN, Usman Mohammed, described the system collapse as the worst ever since he took over the leadership of the company.

The system operator put the nation’s installed generation capacity at 12,910.40MW; available capacity at 7,652.60MW; transmission wheeling capacity at 8,100MW; and the peak generation ever attained at 5,375MW.

The nation generates most of its electricity from gas-fired power plants, while output from hydropower plants makes up about 30 per cent of the total.

The TCN, which manages the national grid, is still fully owned and operated by the government.

The grid has continued to suffer system collapse over the years amid a lack of spinning reserve that is meant to forestall such occurrences.

Spinning reserve is the generation capacity that is online but unloaded and that can respond within 10 minutes to compensate for generation or transmission outages.

Out of the five power stations meant to provide spinning reserves, none has any actual reserve, with the contracted reserve put at 295MW.

The power stations are Egbin, Delta, Olorunsogo NIPP, Geregu NIPP and Omotosho NIPP.
The TCN MD said on Friday, “Since I became the MD of TCN, the system instability recorded in the last two days (Wednesday and Thursday) was the worst because there was no time that we had system instability where the restoration took a longer time like this.

And the reason is – we had a high voltage caused by the fact that electricity load was being rejected by the Discos. And the load was not being picked because of weak distribution network. So that is the reason for that instability.”

Alleged N500 billion CBN scandal: CACOL reacts to claims against Emefiele, tells EFCC what to do

The Centre for Anti-Corruption and Open Leadership, CACOL, has requested an independent probe into a story of huge financial fraud, theft and official documents manipulation to the tune of about N500bn which was purportedly ploughed into a Dubai investment and had gone awry.

The media has been awash with so many revelations concerning Emefiele, ranging from the role he played in the money ‘illegally‘ approved for a former National Security Adviser (NSA), Col. Sambo Dasuki to the recent revelation by Dr George Uboh-led Whistleblowers Network, where it was alleged that $2.5billion disappeared under his watch.
But in a release issued by its Executive Chairman, Debo Adeniran, CACOL stated, “We would recollect how a popular Online Newspapers, reported a scoop involving Godwin Emefiele, Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, and his Deputy Edward Lametek Adamu and the Director for Finance Dayo M. Arowosegbe including one of the Special Advisers to the CBN Governor, Emmanuel Ukeje who were caught on tape discussing how to cover up the loss of over N500billion stolen from the apex bank in a private investment that went bust.

“According to the online newspapers, ‘In the two authentic telephone audio tapes exclusively obtained by Sahara Reporters, the governor and top officials of the Central Bank of Nigeria haggled over plots to conceal the loss of huge sums of monies in a Dubai investment according to sources at the bank. Emefiele is heard saying in the audio to the deputy governor Adamu: “To avoid any serious problem is just, the government just needs to agree to give us at least 100 billion cash but the government will not agree. They will kick against it.’
“The tapes revealed how the top officials managing Nigeria’s central bank connived and conspired to cover up financial fraud which has affected the Nigerian economy.
“As conversation rages on about the heist and Emefiele was discussing extensively with top officials of the bank to conceal the loss made with the shareholders’ funds from commercial banks (the monies were reportedly diverted to invest in Dubai to the tune of N500 Billion sometimes towards the end of 2018 and they reportedly lost that investment), Sahara Reporters quoted their CBN sources that, Mr. Emefiele and others in the bank eventually found a way out of their dilemma by diverting funds in possession of the CBN and also printed hard cold cash.

“Though, the CBN, through one Issac Okorafor, its director, corporate communications, has confirmed the authenticity of the ‘selective conversation’ which it claimed was just a routine ‘conversations amongst Senior Management of many agencies and should not be misconstrued as anything but that’, there are threads of conversation in the tape that simply does not tally with such hand waive of the CBN Management, especially coming against the backdrop of widespread allegations of financial scams including foreign currency manipulation, money laundering and round-tripping to favor a group of politically exposed persons close to the Presidency.
“Hence, CACOL’s calls for the two anti-graft agencies, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, and Independent Corrupt Practices and other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) to immediately wade into the matter by thoroughly investigating all allegations surrounding this story and bringing culprits (if any) into justice so as to save this nation from further embarrassment and arrest the drift into financial chaos which the alleged heist was capable of throwing the country into.”

2019 UTME: JAMB remits N5bn to FG’s account

2019 UTME: JAMB remits N5bn to FG’s account

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has disclosed that it remitted N5 billion to the Federal Government’s purse after the conduct of its 2019 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).

This is contained in the board’s weekly bulletin, signed by the JAMB Head of Media and Information, Dr Fabian Benjamin, on Monday in Lagos.
Benjamin explained later in a telephone interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that the Federal Government gave N2 billion out of the N5 billion back to the board to enhance its operations.

“The board returned N5 billion to the Federal Government, but out of that amount, the board was given N2 billion to further enhance its operations,” he said.
Meanwhile, some 2019 UTME candidates have alleged challenges in accessing their results through telephone as advised by JAMB.
JAMB released the results on Saturday and directed candidates to use the same telephone numbers they used in vending the pins for the examination registration documents to access their results by sending RESULT to a code – 55019.

NAN reports that, of the over 1.8 million candidates who registered for the examination, a total of 1,792,719 had their results released by the board.
The board withheld results of 34,120 candidates over alleged examination malpractice, while results of 15,145 candidates are undergoing further clarification, as in the case of identical twins and siblings, for example.
A parent, Mrs Bridget Otuagha, told NAN that his son had yet to get the result in spite of many efforts.

According to her, the candidate followed the process many times without success.
“I am worried about this whole thing. My son has been trying to get his result since Saturday to no avail.
“He has been sending this RESULT to the said code, up until this morning, and there has been no response to that effect.

“JAMB should see if there is another way,” she told NAN.
Another concerned parent, Mrs Florence Ibem, also told NAN that her son had the same issue.
“Since they released the results, we have not been able to access his score through the telephone number we used in acquiring the registration pin.

“After sending RESULT to the said code severally, there was still no result. This is disturbing and frustrating.
“Something should be done, and urgently too. Even if it is withheld or cancelled, I think we deserve to know,” she said.
When contacted, Benjamin, the board’s Head, Media and Information, apologised to the affected candidates on behalf of the board.

According to him, the challenge was from the service providers.
He said that the board had summoned the service providers for a meeting on the issue.
“We have just had a meeting with the service providers and they assured us that they are working hard to get the issue addressed. In no distant time, such candidates should be able to access their results without any hitch.
“We are just trying to ensure that all the candidates deserving of results should have firsthand information of their performances via their telephones.
“After that, we will post the results on our website for candidates to go ahead and print,” he said.

Tunde Bakare attacks Buhari govt for comparing Miyetti Allah with Afenifere, Ohanaeze

The Founder and Senior Pastor, Latter Rain Assembly, Pastor Tunde Bakare, has rubbished the Presidency for comparing the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association, MACBAN, to the Yoruba socio-political orgnisation, Afeneifere and that of the Igbos, Ohanaeze Ndigbo.

Recall that President Muhammadu Buhari’s Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, had on Friday, in a statement said the Presidency would continue to engage groups such as the Miyetti Allah, Afenifere and Ohanaeze Ndigbo in dialogue as part of the search for solutions and peace in the country.
However, Bakare said only somebody who is not in his right senses would compare Miyetti Allah with Afenifere and Ohanaeze Ndigbo

Speaking during a sermon in his church located in Ogba area of Lagos State, the cleric maintained that such comparison was shameful.
He wondered why the Presidency excluded the socio-political group from the North, Arewa Consultative Forum, ACF.
According to Bakare: “It is shameful for anyone to compare Miyetti Allah with Afenifere. Such person cannot be in his right senses to think that Miyetti Allah and Afenifere and Ohanaeze are the same.

“How can a group that has been rated as the fourth most deadly group in the world by the United Nations, a group of terrorists, be the same as Afenifere?
“How can a group that kills people, rapes women, destroys houses be on the same scale as Afenifere? Do Afenifere members carry weapons?”
“And to show the true colour of the person doing the comparison, he left out the ACF from his comparison as if that one is above everybody else.

“If you have to put Afenifere and Ohanaeze on the same scale as Miyetti Allah, why did you exclude the ACF? Is it not to tell everyone that the ACF is superior to other groups in the country?”

Emefiele: Lawyer asks court to nullify Buhari’s re-appointment of CBN governor, makes revelations

A legal practitioner, George Uboh, has gone to court to stop plan by the federal government to extend the appointment of the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele.

The financial recovery agent, in a suit brought before the Federal High Court, Abuja division, said the federal government cannot ask the Senate to confirm Emiefele’s reappointment when a matter challenging his stewardship had not been decided.
In an affidavit deposed to by Martin Okoye, a lawyer at the chambers of the applicant’s counsel, JohnMary Jideobi, the applicant said Mr Emiefele connived with the Nigerian National Petroleum Coporation (NNPC) to divert $24 million from funds that accrued to Nigeria through the sale of petroleum products in the country.

It read: “In January, 2016, NNPC issued an instruction to the CBN; headed by the Defendant to transfer $162, 064, 237.46 to CBN/JV Cash Call Account 001-1-658-366 with JP Morgan and Debit CBN/NNPC Crude Oil Revenue Domiciliary Account No. 400941775.
“That a closer scrutiny of “Exhibit GUWN 8” and “Exhibit GUWN 9” clearly shows that while revenue from Gas may have been correctly stated, that of Crude Oil was understated to the tune of Twenty Four Million United States Dollars [$24, 000, 000.00].
“That the instruction of the NNPC directing the CBN to remit $162, 064, 237.46 instead of the $186, 327, 246.02 it generated clearly reveals the collusion of the Defendant with the NNPC to rip the Treasury of the Federal Government and the FAAC of $24, 263, 008.56. Now shown to me and marked as “Exhibit SUIT 1.”

According to the charge; the applicant also said Mr Emefiele diverted over $760 million from its record accrued foreign exchange earnings.
“In 2017, the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) confirmed to have sold forex to Bureau De Change (BDCs) at four (4) different locations across the Federation, namely Lagos, Kano, Abuja and Awka. The Apex Bank further confirmed that a total sum of Four Billion, One Hundred and Fifty Nine Million, Nine Hundred and Sixteen Thousand United States Dollars [$4, 159, 916, 000.00] were sold to the BSCs in 2017.
“That despite the Apex Bank selling forex to the BDCs at the rates of N360.00 to N381.00 per Dollar in 2017, it never declared more than N304-N305 per Dollar.

“This occasioned a huge loss of over N232 Billion Naira (which is an equivalent of $760 Million) to the Federal Government’s Treasury from the forex sales of BDCs alone representing exchange gains which should have been disclosed to the Federation Accounts Allocation Committee [FAAC].”

Abati Declares Buhari Cabinet Worst Since 1999, Why 80 Percent Should Be Fired
User Avatar Forum: General Discussion
Posted by: Edoman - 05-14-2019, 11:26 AM - No Replies

A previous exceptional guide to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan has announced that the present Bureau of President Muhammadu Buhari is the most exceedingly terrible since Nigeria's arrival to majority rule agreement 20 years back.

He additionally asked the President to sack 80 percent of clergyman and counselors for underneath normal execution and that he should not buckle under to weight from the All Progressives Congress (APC) pioneers in front of an arrangement of those to work with him in his second term.

Abati, in an article on Monday titled "The following Buhari bureau: a few proposals", brought up that Buhari is the central Nigerian President since 1999 who did not change his group mid-stream but rather that he ought to on morning of May 30, 2019, or even on the 29th report another Federal Executive Council.

"Doing as such will send a sign that he implies business and that he has adopted a few exercises since 2015… Nigeria expects that President Buhari would not take an additional a half year to comprise another group", the veteran columnist said.

Abati, who opined that the President might think about legitimacy, skill, coherence, security, the reward for hard work and faithfulness, said this could have worked for the occupant Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele.

He stated: "Some people trust that Emefiele has been given a second term as CBN Governor as a result of his closeness to Aso Rock, his political insightfulness (romancing the forces-that-be), including notwithstanding heading off to the Mosque with the President, and claiming to know the Muslim method for love. There are additionally the individuals who contend that Emefiele merits his re-arrangement since he has been a noteworthy mainstay of steadiness in dealing with Nigeria's financial emergency.

"The CBN under his supervision likewise acquainted arrangements that assisted with guide Nigeria through retreat, make an uncommon window for nearby and outside speculators, motivating forces for Small and Medium Scale Enterprises, ranchers and the imaginative business, insightful administration of the loan fee and loaning routines and a definite assurance to continue Nigeria's financial development recuperation plan.

"It is my firm conviction that by holding Emefiele, who was initially designated by the Jonathan organization in 2014, President Buhari has in this occasion, transcended emotionalism to select soundness, legitimacy, and coherence. Neighborhood and worldwide financial specialists and different partners are effectively muddled by the unexpected change which expands chance counts. The re-assignment of Emefiele will give them certainty.

"The arrangement of Ms. Abike Dabiri-Erewa as Chairperson of the Diaspora Commission is a reward for hard work and dependability, and it is merited. Designated Special Assistant to the President on the Diaspora, Abike-Dabiri has appeared and commitment past the obligation at hand. Her enthusiasm is striking. Her bravery is exemplary.

"Wherever any Nigerian in the diaspora got oneself in trouble, Ms. Dabiri-Erewa connected in the interest of the Nigerian Government. She turned out to be so successful her depreciators started to protest that she was upstaging the Minister of Foreign Affairs. My view is that she likely would have been a superior decision as Minister of Foreign Affairs. However, the Diaspora Commission being her child and energy; she is most likely happier."

Abati included that Nigerians anticipate that the country's head should indicate more freedom by getting rid of the alleged intrigue that has held him prisoner since 2015. He lamented that the APC has been approaching flaunting that just faithful gathering individuals will be compensated, calling it "a dumb recommendation."

"Be that as it may, what do I think? I think the bureau that Buhari has worked with so far is the most terrible that Nigeria has had since 1999, and I am merely beneficent, saying this. Not even under Sani Abacha did we have such a horrendous blend. In a nation of incredibly capable and talented people, the Buhari bureau, 2015 - 2019 is an outrage. Clearly, after the 2015 races, President Buhari was experiencing tension to settle IOUs and offer employment to the young men who helped him to satisfy his fantasy.

"In this way, from all aspects of Nigeria, they gave him the young men to carry out the responsibility, and he too picked some noticeable holders on and long-term followers. You can't run a decent government by enlisting relatives, narrow-minded ethnic people, party lenders and a cluster of confused lawmakers. President Buhari must not rehash that botch, whatever the weight.

"He ought to request CVs, direct meetings independent from anyone else alone, and he should turn around this pattern of sending names to the National Assembly without portfolios, and evade the mistake of designating dead people! Whoever will show up before the Senate as Ministerial chosen one should likewise have a collection joined to his name. It is a terrible thing to have a Minister directing a group over which he is ill-suited.

"President Buhari should sack over 80% of his group. They have not served him well with their open and humiliating showcase of an absence of shading, effortlessness, and capability. For a begin, every one of the Ministers of State ought to be terminated and changed. They can't argue that they are unimportant extra tires. It is their absence of activity and desire that has transformed them into new tires. Heads of organizations and parastatals ought not to be permitted to hold tight to the legend that they involve tenured positions.

"The President is naturally enabled to flame anyone when he is worn out on their administrations. A significant number of them ought to be sent home, and that incorporates the crowd of uncommon colleagues and consultants doing nothing, consuming space and frequently causing issues. President Buhari ought to overlook any and each rundown from the gathering secretariat. APC party pioneers are occupied with their very own private plan.

"In any case, there are certainly people in President Buhari's group that he can, in any case, work with, who in our estimation can include esteem. Okechukwu Enelamah should make the rundown. He is the present Minister of Investment, Trade, and Industry. His sterling execution connecting government approach to SME execution and articulating the forward-looking strategies of the Buhari government made me investigate his record.

"There are individuals like him around President Buhari who are frequently disregarded because they don't have the foggiest idea how to make commotion or show up sycophantically at the Mosque. Under Enelamah's supervision, Nigeria's simplicity of working together positioning has improved, and he has continued the heritage of his ancestor in that office – Olusegun Aganga – and has likewise sufficiently avoided playing legislative issues with plain-locate dynamic thoughts.

"I additionally prescribe Babatunde Fashola, SAN. He has the right to be held not because he has strategically campaigned for it but rather because he is a man of order and ability. President Buhari overburdened him by giving him three Ministries. I don't think Fashola can without much of a stretch perform various tasks. Pastor of Budget and National Planning, Udoma Udo Udoma is a skillful man yet he is in the wrong Ministry. President Buhari can attempt him somewhere else, in a position most appropriate to his gifts.

"Audu Ogbeh, the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development ought to be given high national respect and encouraged to resign. Lai Mohammed, the Minister of Information, has outlasted his value, as Chris Ngige and Rotimi Amaechi. Educator Isaac Adewole, the Minister of Health, still has a great deal to convey. Who else is in this their legislature… ?"

Army to Rivers governor, Wike: You caused the death of three soldiers during 2019 polls

The Nigerian Army has said Rivers state governor Nyesom Wike was responsible for the killing of three soldiers during the 2019 general elections in the state.
The military claims that the security men attached to the governor shot at soldiers stationed at the collation centre in the Obio Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State during the 2019 elections, leaving three of them dead and one injured.
The General Officer Commanding, 6 Division, Nigerian Army, Maj.-Gen. Jamil Sarham, made the allegation when he appeared before the House of Representatives’ ad hoc committee investigating the alleged killing of employees of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Dr Ferry Gberegbe and Mrs Ibisaki Amachree, during the elections.

Recall that the House had on April 11, 2019, agreed to probe the Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad of the Nigeria Police and the Nigerian Army for the killing of Gberegbe and Amachree.
Sarham explained to the lawmakers that the  soldiers deployed for electoral exercise in Rivers particularly those deployed in the collation centre, acted professionally in the face of provocation by those allegedly sponsored by the state.
He said, “The soldiers who were at the outer cordon are supposed to stop anybody coming to either harm the voters or disrupt the polling (exercise). So, when Kurumi tried to enforce that, unknown to him, there were other people with different agenda and they snuffed life out of him.

“At the outer cordon three soldiers lost their lives. May be since you didn’t refer to it, Lieutenant Salami currently is on life support at Cedar Crest. No less person than the Executive Governor of Rivers State led a convoy of more than 40 vehicles to attack a collation centre and shot at Salami, manhandled Corporal Abiodun; these you can verify. That was at the Obio Akpor Local Government Area, at the collation centre there. We have laid this complaint to the police and it is well-documented. The Commissioner of Police is here and, he can testify to it.”
Chairman of the committee, Rimande Shawulu, had earlier said the lawmakers had visited Rivers where they met with Wike, chairmen of the LGAs and other stakeholders.

He said, “We spent two days taking testimonies. We have the presentation of the two of them; the governor and the (INEC) Commissioner whose house was invaded. What really happened in the case of Dr. Ferry Gberegbe?”

Responding, Sarham said, “Operation Save Conduct is designed to assist the Nigeria Police and INEC to conduct 2019 election.
“So, arrest or whatsoever, anytime it was made, the suspects were usually transferred to the civil police.”

But the hearing took a dramatic turn when a member of the committee from Rivers, Boma Goodhead, burst into tears, saying, “What took place in Rivers State during the elections and other places were done by the Nigerian Army and SARS, and nobody should deny this because we saw them.”
But the GOC said, “Nobody was arrested apart from the people who were directly responsible for the killing of Lieutenant Kurumi. There were actually people in Rivers State who were responsible for the killing of an officer and three soldiers during that election.”

To avoid being attacked, bandits asked five Zamfara villages to pay N20m – Resident

[Image: bandits-with-guns.jpg?resize=620%2C400&ssl=1]

The bandit attacks in Zamfara has reportedly reached a level where communities have to pay-off the criminals to avoid being attacked.
A resident of the Aljimma village in the Maradun Local Government Area of Zamfara State, who spoke to The Punch in confidence, said that the bandits levied five villages in the area N20m.

He stated, “They would send a representative to our communities asking us to pay a certain amount of money running into millions of naira as a condition for living in peace. It has happened to our village and other neighbouring communities.
“Let me give you a breakdown of villages and the ransoms paid. They placed N10m ransom on Gora community, N5m on Faru village, N1.5m on Gidan Isah community, the people of Ilankwai village had to pay N2m while Gidan Baushe village was levied N2.5m . All the villages paid the levy but I’m not sure whether Gora people were able to meet the demand.
“I was part of the team that took the ransom put on our village to the bandits inside the forest. We had to mobilise ourselves by going from house to house to collect the money in order to meet the demand. Failure to do so would be very calamitous on us.”

Shell targets 2400MW from new gas project

Oil major, Shell, said its ongoing Assa North/Ohaji South gas development in Imo State will produce 600 million standard cubic feet of gas per day, energy equivalent of about 2,400 Megawatts (MW) of electricity enough to provide uninterrupted power to 2.4 million homes.
Noting that 13 per cent of the electricity generated in 2018 came from the 650MW Afam VI power plant, the oil firm noted that the Assa project will further aid energy generation in the country.
Besides, Shell reiterated its determination to support development in Nigeria, by exploring more oil in the deepwater frontier of the country.
With the completion of its invitation to tender (ITT), the company said it was about taking a Final Investment Decision (FID), on the $10 billion Bonga South West Aparo project.

Unveiling the 2018, Shell in Nigeria “Briefing Notes” in Lagos, yesterday, Managing Director, the Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria Limited (SPDC), and Country Chair, Shell Companies in Nigeria, Osagie Okunbor, disclosed that the oil major paid a total of $17.8 billion as taxes, royalties, and levies to the Nigerian Government from 2014 to 2018.
Okunbor also said Shell contributed $2 billion to Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), and spent $239 million under its Global Memorandum of Understanding (GMoU), for host community development.
“SPDC took the final investment decision on the Assa North/Ohaji South project last December giving a major momentum to the domestic gas aspiration of the federal government for increased power generation and industrialisation,” he said.
Giving a breakdown of the gas production, Okunbor said 300 million standard cubic feet (mscf) of gas per day would be processed at a new gas processing plant owned by the SPDC Joint Venture, while the remaining 300mscf will go to a proposed gas processing plant by Seplat Petroleum.

Soyinka pays tributes to Leah, compares her to Mandela

On May 14, 2019

Nobel laureate, Professor Wole Soyinka, has lambasted the United States for the delay in designating Boko Haram a terror group, paying glowing tributes to Leah Sharibu in an ode to Leah and Chibok girls. hardtalk, Wole Soyinka Festival consultant Professor Wole Soyinka delivers a speech during the opening of the fourth edition of African drum festival at the Abeokuta city centre amphitheatre in Ogun State, southwest Nigeria, on April 25, 2019.

– The fourth edition of African drum festival with theme “Drumming for Futureî has opened with international workshops by culture scholars and performances by troupes from various regions across the world in Abeokuta, southwest Nigeria. (Photo AFP) ‘Scientists working hard to find HIV cure’ Soyinka, who spoke at Georgetown University, Washington, also likened Leah Sharibu to iconic human rights champion, the late Dr. Nelson Mandela of South Africa. “We must celebrate the exception who said ‘no’ as it reminded me of Mandela who refused conditional release,” Soyinka said.

Reciting the ode, entitled Mandela comes to Leah, Soyinka said: “Faith is not of compulsion…her torch undimmed in the den of zealots.” Professor Soyinka said he could only recite excerpts from the ode because he broke down the last time he had tried to read it, even as he did an epic takedown of a Georgetown professor’s claim that poverty and desperation were behind Boko Haram. According to Soyinka, it was rather ideological bordering on the meta-physical and “we should not underestimate it.”

“We’re dealing with something much deeper,” he said and recalled the son of a former Chief Justice of Nigeria who was upper middle class, but who disappeared with his family to join ISIS abroad. According to him, “there’s a will to deny the possibility of horror and evil. We have reached a point where we have to go beyond the material analysis of this phenomenon. It goes beyond poverty and marginalisation.

The ideology of sheer morbidity.” Soyinka deplored the 20 American intellectuals who wrote, protesting the proposal to designate Boko Haram as a foreign terrorist organisation, FTO, pointing out it would interfere with their “scholarly research”. “It took my breath away. Some were my friends, (but) there they were in all seriousness simply because they had a very wrong analytical approach to this problem.

“We must simply jettison the language of political correctness. Political correctness is turning African continent into the graveyard of freedom and liberty if we don’t call things by their proper names. “We’re dealing now with the toxin of power which barely manifests itself under the cloak of religion.” Also on the panel with Soyinka was the ambassador who belatedly announced Obama’s decision to designate Boko Haram as an FTO as then top US diplomat for Africa, Assistant Secretary of State, Linda Greenfield.

Greenfield pleaded impotency in responding to the Chibok abductions due to denials by many as to what happened, which she said was her biggest challenge. “I had this feeling of impotency— a superpower who couldn’t do anything…I still feel it…there’s no more frustration to be in and I felt frustrated,” Soyinka quoted her as saying. She also mentioned a recent attack in Nigeria where girls were taken the previous week. Greenfield paid tribute to some of the girls whom she had met as being strong, saying she was traumatised just watching the drama “Chibok: Our Story” which preceded the panel discussion.

Zuckerberg adds $4.5bn to fortune as Facebook shares surge

Mark Zuckerberg, the chairman of Facebook Inc., has added $4.5 billion to his fortune as Facebook shares rise. This is coming after the technology entrepreneur’s fortune declined about $20 billion in 2018.Bloomberg had earlier reported how Zuckerberg saw the biggest loss in 2018, collectively dropping $76 billion, largely because of December’s market rout.

The tek Czar saw the sharpest drop in 2018 as Facebook Inc. veered from crisis to crisis. His net worth fell nearly $20 billion, leaving the 34-year-old with a $53 billion fortune. But trading yesterday at New York Stock Exchange, Facebook Inc. shares rose dramaically thereby increasing his worth by about $4.6 billion, after the social-networking firm reported first-quarter earnings Wednesday night that won near-unanimous praise from Wall Street analysts.

According to Bloomberg, that brings Mr Zuckerberg’s year-to-date advance to $24 billion, the most for anyone on the Bloomberg Billionaires Index.

Mr Zuckerberg’s gain tops that of Bernard Arnault, the chairman of the world’s largest luxury company; Louis Vuitton, who has seen his fortune increase $23 billion in 2019.

Ngige under attack

Activities at the Federal Secretariat, Abuja, were grounded for hours, yesterday, as members of the organised Labour continued their protest against Dr. Chris Ngige, minister of labour and employment, even as Prof. Biodun Ogunyemi, President of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) admonished President Muhammadu Buhari to conduct a psychiatric test on his cabinet members to ascertain their mental stability.

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC)-led by its president, Ayuba Wabba, had taken to the streets to protest “unwarranted attack” on workers who went to picket Dr. Ngige’s Asokoro residence last week.

The minister was accused of misleading the president on reasons for the delayed inauguration of the board of Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund (NSITF).

Addressing the rally, Wabba said the protest was not against the NSITF board but the attack on workers by thugs suspected to have been hired by the minister of labour and employment.

“The minister’s attitude was against international best practices as well as the ILO conventions and even Nigeria Constitution that guarantee the right of workers to protest and picking.

“Instead of Mr. Ngige to dialogue with us, he resorted to hiring thugs to attack us. We are not here today because the NSITF board has been inaugurated. But our concerned right now is the attack on our members. We are saying that Ngige is not fit for a public office and president Buhari should do the needful before such a man destroy his government.”

Prof. Ogunyemi said the call to conduct psychiatric examination became necessary due to the ongoing fracas between workers and the minister who ordinarily should understand the working of labour.

“ASUU, as a union, condemn this attack on workers by a man who should protect and defence them. To say the least, we lost confidence in him.

“We are also calling on President Buhari to conduct a psychiatric test on each of his cabinet members to ascertain their mental stability to save the country an embarrassment as this.”

President of Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN), Marwan Mustapha Adamu called for an urgent investigation with a view to bringing to book the hired thugs who attacked and caused various degrees of injuries on workers.

Marwan said the national protest/picketing was to show to Nigerians and the world that Labour would always stand for her right.

He said the organised labour has resolved to embarrass the minister anytime he is seen both within and outside the country.

The workers came with placards with difference inscriptions including “Ngige must go”, “He is not qualified to be a doctor but a native doctor,” “Ngige, face of violence cabal in Buhari government”, “How long can a public officer go before he is sack.”

Notwithstanding the opposition, Ngige inaugurated the Board of NSITF, at the State House Conference Centre, Presidential Villa, Abuja.

The board is headed by Austin Enajemo-Isire, a Chartered Accountant, professional Insurance Executive and Banker.

The NLC was represented at the inauguration ceremony by Waheed Adeyanju and Ibrahim Khaleel. Secretary of the committee is Mrs. Ijeoma Okoronkwo.

Names of other board members include Mr. Olawale, Osuolale Timothy (NECA), Dr. Mohammed Yinusa, Dr. Ifeoma Anyanwutaku, Mrs. Dutse Aminu (CBN).

Others are Mr. Jasper Azutalam, Executive Director, Finance, Mr Tijani Suleiman, Executive Admin, Mrs Kemi Nelson, Executive Director, Operations and Mr. Ade Bayo Somefun, Managing Director & Chief Executive.

President Buhari had backed the minister regarding the replacement of ex-labour leader, Frank Kokori, as head of the NSITF with Enajemo-Isire.

Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, in a statement described the move as part of the special work plan approved for the minister by President Buhari.

Kokori has been appointed head of Michael Imoudu National Institute for Labour Studies (MINILS), a diploma awarding labour institution.

Wabba, had been engaged in a war of words with Ngige over the displacement of Kokori.

The dispute degenerated to disruption of an earlier scheduled inauguration ceremony at the minister’s office and the picketing of his residence.

In his remarks, Ngige recalled the fraud uncovered under the past NSITF Board and being investigated by anti-graft agencies, hence the need to appoint a new set of board members.

He charged the new appointees to leave the day-to-day running of NSITF to the Executive Directors, and not award contracts or review upwards their remunerations and allowances by themselves.

He stated that nonetheless, the Board should always be made aware of whatever the Tenders Board of the NSITF was doing, in order to enhance checks and balances in the system.

The minister commended the current management of the NSITF led by Adebayo Somefun, for improving the fortunes of the Fund and implementing its statutory mandate, but enjoined it to work in harmony with the new Board to continually improve staff welfare and other indices needed to make the Fund function optimally.

“Though this Board is being inaugurated much later than its contemporaries, the NSITF is, however, better set to welcome a new Board than it was at the time when the other Boards of the ministry were inaugurated. As you all may be aware, the last Board and Management of the NSITF left negative trails inimical to development and progress for both the human and infrastructural components of the Agency.

“The criminal investigations by the Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC) and the subsequent Administrative Panel of Enquiry investigations revealed financial atrocities that would go down the annals of history of the NSITF as shameful and monstrous. At a time, the national dailies and social media were agog with the news of corruption and deep sleaze by some members of the previous Board in collusion with some top Management Staffof the Agency who aided and abetted the looting of both Government and Private Sector Funds of about N48 Billion from the N62 Billion contributions between 2012 – 2015 of the NSITF.

“This resulted in about four Board Members including the last Chairman being arraigned and charged to court by the EFCC. Some monies have been paid back to Government Treasury and about 37 Houses are now under forfeiture. The Administrative Panel report also indicted some Board members and NSITF Management Officers. The affected Officers have now been shown the way out, and many more indicted Officers by the Auditor General’s Periodic Report on the NSITF will soon be made to refund the monies illegally taken from the Fund. The Auditor General of the Federation (AUGF) had to be requested by us in 2017 when it became clear that there was no Audited Account for the place for five years, past to undertake the Constitutional periodic check.

Ngige enjoined the members to ensure proper conduct of the affairs of the Agency to “restore the confidence of the Nigerian Public in the administration of the fund collected for the execution of the Employees’ Compensation Act (ECA), 2010 which is now the major mandate of the Fund, especially in view of the fact that it is the funds contributed by the Public and Private Sectors to execute this mandate. These contributions are strictly speaking Employers’ Fund which they contributed to purchase an Insurance package for their Employees. In both would-be beneficiaries, i.e. the Employees and employers should be concerned about the monies used in running the operations of the Fund.”

He urged them to be mindful of the fact that their function and operations were regulated by various Federal Government circulars. “You are to execute the general policy formulation for the implementation of the ECA by the Management team of the NSITF. Be mindful of the general principle which states that nominal board members are not to be involved in the day – to – day running of the Fund,” he urged.

In terms of remuneration, Ngige said the Board remuneration has been clearly spelt out as to what to be paid for Board Meetings and for travels both within and outside the country while salaries and emoluments of staff members fixed by the Board but subject to the ratification by the supervising ministry and subsequent confirmation of the National Salaries, Income and Wages Commission.

Clash between youths of Ogwu-Aniocha community in Ogbaru Local Government Area and Umudara community in Ihiala Local Government Area of Anambra State over alleged land trespass has left one person dead and two others critically injured.

It was gathered that crisis erupted following alleged holding-hostage of three persons of Umudara extraction by some youths of Ogwu-Aniocha over claims that they trespassed into Ogwu-Aniocha land.

Umudara community in protest, blocked the only access road leading to Ogwu-Aniocha.

A source said five Ogwu-Aniocha youths, who were part of the mediation effort had gone up to Umudara to negotiate the reopening of the access road, but were ambushed on their way and shot by suspected Umudara youths.

One person was allegedly killed, while two others were captured and inflicted with gun shot wounds and severe machete cuts.

The source said other two persons were said to have managed to escape, stressing that youths of Ogwu-Aniocha have since been sprawling for revenge.

Chairman of Ogbaru Local Government Area, Arinzechukwu Awogu, who received the information immediately met with his Ihiala Local Government Area counterpart, Ifeanyi Odumegwu over the rising tension between the two neighbouring communities to douse the situation.

The Ogbaru Council boss was accompanied on the peace meeting by the Divisional Police Officers ( DPOs) of Atani and Ihiala respectively with the Area Commander of Ihiala.

Meanwhile, there is palpable tension in Neni community in Anaocha Local Government of Anambra State following reports that President of the state Council of Traditional Prime Ministers, Chief Anthony Enukeme was building a mosque in the town.

Enukeme was alleged to have connived with some people outside the state to attract the mosque to Neni as part of the grand design to entrench Islam in the state.

But, Enukeme, who is the chairman and managing director of TONIMAS Nigeria Limited, has dismissed the allegation as the figment of the imagination of some social media professionals.

No Apologies For My Lagos Godfather Views –el-rufai

                           [Image: 9386381_1162b920c5ee4dc5af2cc06e05ed60da...dad1b8508b]
The Kaduna State Governor, Mallam Nasir el-Rufai, said on Monday that he had no apologies for his views on how to retire godfathers from politics in Lagos State.

The governor stated that his views were his views and would not retract them or tender an apology because anyone felt offended by them.

El-Rufai spoke with State House correspondents after he visited President Muhammadu Buhari to give him an update on the security situation in Kaduna State.

“If I was asked a question and I gave an answer, anyone that feels offended by the answer, it is his own business. I have no apologies, I don’t apologise for my views.

“I don’t have to explain anything to anyone. This is a democracy and in a democratic space, there must be room for people to express their views,” he said.

Recall that last week in Ikoyi, while speaking at an event in Lagos, the governor recounted how he retired godfathers from Kaduna politics.

He advised the people of Lagos State to apply his model to sack any godfather holding the state down.

It is widely believed that el-Rufai was referring to the National Leader of the All Progressives Congress, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu.

When asked a specific question on whether he had any issues with Tinubu or the party generally, he said, “There is no dispute between me and anyone in the APC; the APC is one family; I don’t dispute with my own party.”

On his visit to the Villa, el-Rufai said he came to brief Buhari on the various security measures introduced by security agencies to confront criminalities in the state, especially kidanappings on the Abuja-Kaduna Highway.

Also, the Governor of Benue State, Mr Samuel Ortom, was at the Villa.

MTN posts N48.4bn profit after tax in Q1

MTN Nigeria Plc has announced N48.4 billion Profit After Tax, PAT, for its first quarter, Q1, ended March 31, 2019, representing 50.2 percent increase compared to N32.2 billion recorded in the corresponding period in 2018.

Highlights of financial results showed that the company grew its revenue by 13.2 percent to N282 billion driven by voice, which accounted 74.9 percent of the total revenue. Data business, according to the company, contributed 16.6 percent to the total revenue, while Fintech and digital businesses accounted for 2.9 percent and one percent of the total revenue respectively. Other sources accounted for 4.5 percent. Earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortization (EBITDA) margin improved to 53.3 percent in Q1’19 from 41.8 percent in Q1’18. Further breakdown of the result showed that Average Revenue Per User (ARPU) improved by 1.1 percent Year-on-Year (Y/Y) to N1,510, total subscribers increased by 3.6 percent to 60.3 million, while data subscribers improved by 5.6 million to 20.4 million.

According to the company, it remained undisputed leader in the telecom industry with market share by subscribers and value of 39 percent and 50 percent respectively. Meanwhile, the company said it plans to issue N200 billion Commercial Paper, CP, before the end of this year, while it expects 47 million new mobile subscribers in the next four years to 2023 with mobile penetration estimated at 91.8 percent for Nigeria. “Smartphone penetration is expected to increase to 95 percent in 2023 from 47 percent in 2018,” it said, adding that low data penetration and 4G coverage presents opportunities for data revenue growth, while low level of banking penetration is expected to support Fintech revenue going forward. Recall that MTN announced the successful completion of the registration of 20.35 billion ordinary shares of N0.02 each with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) last week, thus paving way for its listing by Introduction, which is expected to take place in the first half (H1) 2019.

$25bn Diaspora remittances exceeded oil, gas earnings in 2018 –Avuru

Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Seplat Petroleum Development Company Plc, Mr. Austin Avuru, has said that Diaspora remittances by Nigerians in 2018 surpassed the nation’s earnings from oil and gas in the same year.

Avuru, stated this at the Nigerian-American Multicultural Council (NAMC) 8th Annual Gala Night in Houston, Texas, where he was the Honorary Gala Chair and Lifetime Achievement Awardee.

Nigerians in the Diaspora in 2017 remitted $22 billion, making it the highest in Sub-Saharan African region followed by Senegal and Ghana with $2.2 billion each for the year. Currently, the country is among the top five nations in global remittances.

Chief economist at PriceWaterCoopers (PwC) Nigeria, Prof Andrew Nevin, had said Nigeria’s citizens living outside the country remitted an estimated $25 billion in 2018, making them its biggest export.

Avuru, who quoted the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) stated that, the bureau had two weeks ago disclosed in its report that for the full year 2018, diaspora remittances for the first time exceeded Federal Government’s earnings from oil and gas sector.

The PwC’s Chief Economist, in a report titled, “Nigeria Economic Outlook: Top 10 Themes For 2019”, noted that remittances to Nigeria represent 6.1 per cent of Gross Domestic Product (GDP), and translate to 83 per cent of the Federal Government budget in 2018.

This was as statistics from the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) indicated that Nigeria earned N5.54 trillion from the petroleum industry in 2018, amounting to 60.88 per cent of the N9.1 trillion budget for the 2018 fiscal year and 63.45 per cent of the N8.73 trillion proposed budget for 2019.

The Seplat boss while addressing Nigerian professionals in Houston, Texas admonished them to use their wealth of knowledge, and wide contact to help develop the country’s economy.

He noted that the remittance figure for 2018 is an indication that Nigerians in diaspora have not forgotten their heritage in all they do outside the shores of the country.

‘‘You may not really know the value you are contributing to the economy even while you are here. But your remittances to Nigeria is in no small measure contributing to the country’s growth.

For me, if you are emphasising the bridge between Nigeria and America, it is about enterprise and value creation. It is pleasing to note that, we Nigerians are no longer invitees to the banquet but co-organisers and participants in the banquet.

From the young men and women to the old ones, the position that you hold in multinational organisations, and the entrepreneurs that have risen to height, both here and back in Nigeria attest to your tenacity.

And even when you recollect that all of these successes are personal efforts and not as a result of any government backing or push; that means that one day, when we finally get our governance right, things will take a turn for the best.’’

King Mswati of Swaziland who has 15 wives orders men in his country to marry more than two wives or face Jail

King Mswati III of Swaziland has declared in Mbabane Swaziland that men will from June 2019 be required to marry at least two or more wives or be jailed if they fail to do so.

The king, who has 15 wives and 25 children, while his father and predecessor has more than 70 wives and 150+ children, noted that there are more women than men in Swaziland which he says is a very serious problem for a country, which is known to be full of virgins.

According to IHarare, men from Swaziland are therefore required and expected to take more wives so that every woman gets a husband.
In a statement, king Mswati called for all men in the country to marry at least five wives and the government assured the men that it would pay for the marriage ceremonies and buy houses for them.
King Mswati warned that any man or woman who opposes the decision “will face a life sentence”.

A graduate of Criminology and Security Services, Adeusi Demola Olatunji, has been sentenced to four months in prison after being found guilty of internet-related offence filed against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC Ibadan zonal office.

Justice P.I. Ajoku of the Federal High Court, Ibadan, pronounced him guilty of a one-count amended charge of criminal impersonation. Adeusi, otherwise known as Piero Luchas, was originally arraigned on a six-count charge to which he pleaded not guilty.

The one-count charge he was convicted of was consequent upon a plea-bargain agreement he later had with the commission. He pleaded guilty to the amended charge when read to him. The convict was arrested on February 8, 2019 at Elebu Oja, Ibadan, Oyo State.
His modus operandi, according to EFCC investigations, was to present himself as Piero Luchas, a white man with email address jeremy.david564@gmail.com,to dupe his victims.

The offence is contrary to Section 22(3) (b) and punishable under Section 22(4) of the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention) Act 2015. After pleading guilty to the amended charge, the EFCC counsel, Mabas Mabur, urged the court to accept the plea bargain agreement and convict him accordingly. The court granted the prayer.

Besides the four months jail term, Adeusi was also ordered to refund the sum of$1,800 as restitution to one of his victims. He will also forfeit his Infinix phone, iPhone 6 and a Toshiba Laptop to the Federal Government of Nigeria, being part of the benefit he derived from his fraudulent act.

The conviction takes effect from the day of his arrest.

RHAPSODY OF REALITIES

TUESDAY, 14TH MAY.

CHRIST IS YOUR LIFE

For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God. When Christ, who is our life, shall appear, then shall ye also appear with him in glory (Colossians 3:3-4).

Being born again, your life is hid with Christ in God; Christ is your life. You received eternal life; a supplanting of your natural human life by His divine life when you were born again. What you have in you now is the Christ-life.

The Lord Jesus took the depraved, defeated, destroyed and broken human life away from you. The life of sin, failure, defeat, rejection and shame was taken away from you, and in replacement, He gave you a life of righteousness, honour, peace and glory. You were dead, but now alive in Him.
Think about it: if Christ is your life, then everything about your life is Christ. How then could you be said to have cancer? How could you have a blood disease or sickness of any kind in your body? It’s not possible!

Satan has lied to many and deceived them into believing that nothing really has changed even though they’re now born again. No; the problems, the darkness, misery and pains that were associated with your natural human life; the infirmities that were there before you were born again, have all passed away.

2 Corinthians 5:17 says, “Therefore, if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.” The word, “behold” means to see or reckon. God wants you to see that you’re now a new man; you’re now in Christ, and Christ is in you. Christ is your new environment and home. Therefore, it makes no difference the infirmity or deformity you might have been born with; you have a new life now.

Romans 8:10 says, “And if Christ is in you, though your body be dead because of sin, but the Spirit gives it life because of righteousness.” It therefore doesn’t matter what happens or has happened to your body, Christ in you makes you whole, well, and sound. Have and walk in this consciousness. Walk bold and fearless, full of faith and confidence, because Christ is your life. Hallelujah!

CONFESSION

I’ve got the life of Christ at work in my spirit, soul and body. It’s working in every fibre of my being, in every cell of my blood and in every bone of my body. No sickness, disease or infirmity can thrive in my body. I’m absolutely impregnable and indestructible because Christ is my life!

FURTHER STUDY

Colossians 1:26-27; Even the mystery which hath been hid from ages and from generations, but now is made manifest to his saints: 27 To whom God would make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles; which is Christ in you, the hope of glory:

1 John 4:4; e are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.

#TALKINGSESSION

14TH MAY.

KINDLY SAY THIS WORDS OUT LOUD

Dear Father, thank You for Your angels that are working on my behalf, and the authority You’ve given me in Christ over the devil and the cohorts of darkness. Satan has no place in my home, body, finances or anywhere around me.

I thank You for guiding me in the path of life and leading me in the way of supernatural success and permanent prosperity. I make my way prosperous and consistently experience good success as I meditate on the Word and speak it forth with boldness, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.

God bless you

Solomon Yellowe Killed By SARS, Corpse Deposited In Mortuary - Sibling
User Avatar Forum: News

As shared by Martha.....

'Tough times indeed for my entire family but in all His grace and mercies are keeping us strong.

My younger brother Solomon Yellowe, the last born of the family, left Uniport campus after a test to withdraw money from a bank's atm on the 13th of March. Not long after he was arrested by SARS. By 14th of March my brothers lifeless body was deposited at UPTH mortuary by the same SARS that arrested him. They never contacted us despite knowing that we were looking for him. We went to their station several times and they continuously denied ever arresting any Solomon Yellowe. It was on the 26th of April that we finally discovered my brother's body at the mortuary.

He was healthy at the time of his arrest and was taken to SARS, Rukpokwu where he was subsequently murdered the next day. He was tortured to death...

My brother had never been arrested before nor does he have any record of criminal activity. We have also not received any information of a complaint against him.
Yet he was killed by police without any regard to his family.

Pls I want to urge every one on this platform, in anyway you can to assist us to get justice for my brother, Solomon, whose life was cut short for no apparent reason.
Signed
Anna Yellowe-West'

Stop Using Me For Comedy, Buhari Warns Nigerians

Quote:President Muhammadu Buhari of the All progressive Congress [APC] on Monday passed a warning to all Nigerian celebrities to stop using him for comedy.

The president also said that other countries have their challenges and yet their citizens don’t publicly talk rash at their leaders.

My government is trying all it takes to tackle insecurity which I see as the only challenge Nigeria is facing at the moment.

In a conclave with journalists, Buhari talked about the people’s democratic party [ PDP] presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar who is currently challenging Buhari’s victory in Appeal, that if the favour falls on Atiku’s side he will accept to hand-over power to him and his party.

President Buhari has given Nigerians full assurance to end the country’s problems in his four years, according to THEWATCH NEWS.

Zainab Bulkachuwa: PDP Staff Protest Against Election Tribunal Chairman (PHOTOS)

@POLITICS NIGERIA

We, the staffers of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), called you here today to intimate you of our collective decisions to once again, join with other Nigerians that voted for our Presidential Candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, to demand for the restoration of our mandate.

Nigerians across board came out enmass on Saturday, February 23, 2019 and voted for the PDP Presidential Candidate, but the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), in collaboration with the ruling Party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), rigged the election in favour of President Muhammadu Buhari. We will not allow some individuals in the country to hijack the collective will of majority of Nigerians. We know and we are aware that Nigerians are tired of the misrule of the APC and its Presidential Candidate, Muhammadu Buhari.

We are tired with the state of insecurity in the country; we are tired with the poor state of our economy; we are tired with this nepotic government; we are tired with the situation where majority of our citizens are living in IDP camps as if we are in a state of war. Nigerians are tired. We are also aware that the President of the Court of Appeal and Chairperson of the 2019 Presidential Election Petition Tribunal, Justice Zainab Ahmed Bulkachuwa is the wife of Ahmed Mohammad Bulkachuwa, the Senator elect on the platform of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), representing Bauchi North Senatorial District. This is completely unacceptable.

We therefore fully support the call by the National Working Committee (NWC) of our Party to demand that she recuse herself immediately from the panel. Finally, we call on the judiciary to continue to remain on the side of the people. As the saying goes, the Judiciary is the last hope of the common man. It is therefore imperative on the Nigerian Judiciary to stand up to its statutory responsibility as the final arbiter for any dispute and do what is just in the eyes of the law and in line with the mood of Nigerians.

Mr. Innocent Nwankwo,
Chairman, PDP Staff Welfare Committeefor and on behalf of the PDP Staff Welfare Committee

Emir Of Kano: His 2 Rolls Royces At The Center Of The Controversy (PHOTOS)
User Avatar Forum: News
Posted by: Edoman - 05-13-2019, 10:17 PM - No Replies

Of late, Kano state has been the focus of most socio-political discussions in Nigeria.

These discussions have been centred around the recent balkanization of the famous Kano Emirate.

It is no longer news that the Governor of Kano state, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, last week signed into law and created 5 new Emirates from the old Kano emirate. The recently balkanized Kano Emirate was created during the time of Shehu Uthman Dan Fodio.

It is currently presided over by Alhaji Lamido Sanusi II.

It is generally believed that the breakup of the old Kano Emirate was done to victimize the current Emir of Kano for his outspokenness.

In the course of the whole controversy, some damaging information was circulated to discredit the Emir of Kano.

See What It Takes To Maintain The Rolls-Royce of The Emir Of Kano https://autojosh.com/see-what-it-takes-to-maintain-the-rolls-royce-of-the-emir-of-kano/

In some of the posts in circulation, several damaging accusations were made against the Emir.

Some of them reportedly accused the Emir of demonstrating a needlessly opulent lifestyle that involved the acquisition of 2 Rolls Royces.

In a statement purported released the Emir in response to some of these accusations, the true story behind the Rolls Royce was revealed.

In the revelation, the Emir allegedly stated thus:

"The Rolls Royces they talked about were bought by my two friends, Kola Kareem and Bola Shagaya. This is normal. The late Emir's limousines were bought by Aminu Dantata, Fernandez, Isiaka Rabiu, Sani Abacha and Ahmed Muazu. Everyone has friends and well-wishers;",

"Kola Kareem, the MD of Costain and Shoreline is an old friend of mine right from my banking days. Bola Shagaya was my classmate in SBS (1977) and in Economics class (1978-1981) in ABU, Zaria. These were their contributions to me. They asked what can we do and I said 'buy me new cars'. The limos here are all antique and dead;"
, the Emir allegedly stated.

  NLC Commences Nationwide Protest Today
User Avatar Forum: News
Posted by: Edoman - 05-13-2019, 10:14 PM - No Replies

The Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC has commenced a nationwide protest over the leadership tussle at the Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund (NSITF) board.

The nationwide protest, which kicked off 9 am on Monday, May 13 at the Labour house in the Nigerian capital, Abuja with members of affiliated unions in attendance, Premium Times reports.

The union is protesting over the minister of labour, Dr Chris Ngige’s unwillingness to inaugurate the NSITF board.

Speaking at the protest, the national president of NLC, Ayuba Wabba, said they are protesting the attack on Nigerian workers during a procession to Ngige’s private residence in Asokoro, Abuja.

“Members of International Labour Congress in Geneva will be protesting against Ngige on June 18,” he said.

The NLC had earlier called on President Muhammadu Buhari to probe Ngige over his involvement in the affairs of the NSITF.
Wabba had also said the protest is not against the inauguration of the board but against the manner in which the minister superintended the affairs of the labour sector.

On Wednesday, last week, NLC members had staged a protest on the street where Ngige’s house is located, using two petrol tankers to barricade his residence.

Ignore Senate, Abuja-kaduna Highway Now Safe For Travellers – El-rufai Tells Nig
User Avatar Forum: General Discussion
Posted by: Edoman - 05-13-2019, 10:13 PM - No Replies

Representative Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna State has expelled the affirmation by the Nigerian Senate that the Abuja-Kaduna thruway is the most dangerous streets in the nation, saying that the road is presently alright for voyagers.

El-Rufai expressed this when he tended to State House reporters after a shut entryway meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari at the Presidential Estate, Abuja on Monday.

The Senate had on May 8 portrayed the Abuja-Kaduna parkway as the most hazardous street in Africa because of the exercises of hijackers and outfitted marauders working on the turnpike.

Sen. Shehu Sani, speaking to Kaduna Focal Senatorial Locale, had, while adding to a movement on "Earnest need to build the number of mentors on the Abuja-Kaduna railroad line" named the previously mentioned interstate as a standout amongst the riskiest in Africa.

In his commitment, Sen. James Supervisor countered, saying that the interstate was not a standout amongst the most hazardous but rather the riskiest street in Africa.

Be that as it may, responding El-Rufai stated: "On the off chance that you think everything that leaves Nigeria's Senate you will have genuine psychological wellness issues.

"There are things that I said there that are only for the display, for the media. I don't have the foggiest idea what insights that were utilized to establish that the Abuja-Kaduna street is the most hazardous street anyplace – I like certainty; I like using figures, I wish the general population that said that would create data.

"I'm stating that regardless of what anyone said a week ago, I'm guaranteeing Nigerians that the Abuja– Kaduna street is very sheltered now and will be so following the measures set up by the different security organizations.

The senator, who said that he was not guaranteeing supreme security for explorers utilizing the street, kept up that no one but God can ensure all out wellbeing.

"In any case, I'm stating, as the legislative leader of the state, in light of the safety efforts set up, I'm sure that the street is protected, and I drive on that street,'' NAN cited him as saying.

Man bags death sentence for killing his brother in Lagos (photo)

A 33-year-old man, Abiodun Allen, has been sentenced to death by hanging for killing his immediate younger brother, Wale, with a broken bottle. Abiodun committed the offence at 11p.m. on Feb. 20th 2013 at Imudo Village, Oto Awori, Lagos following years of toxic sibling rivalry between himself and his brother, Wale.

Abiodun, who was first arraigned on Oct. 6, 2015, was said to have stabbed the deceased in the throat and stomach.

During th period of his arraignment, Abidoun was said to have acted as though he was mentally unstable. However, the judge did not buy into his act as she believed he was only acting a script so she could temper justice with mercy.

Delivering judgement in the case today, Justice Adebiyi noted that Section 221 gives a mandatory death sentence and does not give the court discretionary powers while meting out the sentence.

Quote:“Abiodun Allen having been found guilty of murder is hereby sentenced to death. May God the giver of life, have mercy on your soul,” she said.
Upon hearing the sentence, Abiodun remained expressionless as he left the dock to be led away by prison officials.

Police erroneously let man walk free after he raped his fiancee’s dog to death

Prison bosses erroneously freed an inmate after he raped his fiancee’s dog to death.

Fidel Lopez was convicted on April 8 of sexually assaulting his fiancee’s dog so violently that the little dog had to be euthanized in Multnomah County, Oregon.

Lopez, who is an illegal immigrant, was only sentenced to 60 days in prison for the shocking crime. However, he was released as soon as the sentencing hearing concluded, because he had already spent that amount of time in custody following his February arrest.

The Multnomah County Jail did not honor the immigration detainer and released him without notice to ICE. But the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) have since condemned Multnomah County Sheriff’s Jail for releasing him without notifying immigration officials, according to the New York Daily News.

ICE spokeswoman, Tanya Roman, said in statement: "On April 8, Lopez was convicted of sexual assault of an animal and aggravated animal abuse and sentenced to 60 days in jail with credit for time served."

Lopez was tracked down by authorities on Thursday and arrested at his home. He was taken to the Northwest Detention Center in Tacoma "pending immigration proceedings," ICE wrote, meaning his deportation from the US will happen imminently.

I’m wiser now' - Governor Ambode says after meeting with President Buhari

Lagos State Governor Akinwunmi Ambode says he is leaving office a happy person and much wiser because he has touched humanity through the services he rendered to the people of state in four years.

Ambode, who stated this when he fielded questions from State House correspondents, also expressed gratitude to God for giving him an opportunity to govern the state for the past four years.

Quote:The governor said he mounted the leadership of the state as a technocrat but now leaving as a better politician and wiser. “Every politician learns every day. The mere fact remains that I came in as a technocrat so I used to call myself a techno-politician and I think I am wiser now, I’m more of a politician than a technocrat. I have a few days in office, may be 16 days or so to leave office but what is most important is that I was able to have that opportunity form God to be elected as governor of Lagos and also to touch humanity in a way that I deemed fit.
“We did our best and most of all our projects and the things we did in Lagos were more or less people friendly and I just think that a lot more people have enjoyed the benefits and the dividends of democracy than we actually met.It gives me joy that you are able to touch lives wherever you find yourself.
“You have to just make positive difference to people or Nigerians, that’s the whole essence of service. I’m grateful that I had that opportunity,’’ he said.
Ambode said he was in the State House to thank President Buhari for undertaking a State visit to Logos few weeks ago, where he inaugurated some developmental projects executed by the state government

A mortuary attendant has revealed that they sell water used in bathing corpses to pastors.

Dead body water, according to a mortuary attendant in Ghana, is being purchased by some pastors in the country for as much as N500,000.

In a report by Yen Gh, a female mortuary worker was seen in a video narrating how the water is in high demand.

According to the lady whose identity was hidden, the pastors pay as much as GH₵7,000, for the water, and sometimes they even have shortage.

She explained that some family members prefer to have their corpses bathed at the mortuary, and this is the water that the pastors come to buy.

She said when the floor is mopped, the cleaners squeeze the dirty water out and keep it in bottles which the pastors come for in disguise.

Describing it as a ‘side job’, the mortuary worker confessed to be doing this business in order to earn more money, explaining that the work in itself does not fetch them much.

“Even at this our job we don’t get much from it. But with this, sometimes we can’t even meet up with the demand from the pastors. We most of the time run out of water”

She, however, did not mention the names of the pastors and the churches, perhaps, for fear of being victimised.

“The pastors buy the water, it is in high demand. When the cleaners mop the floor after a corpse is bathed, they squeeze the dirty water into containers which the pastors come to buy,” the lady narrated.

The water is being used by the pastors who patronise it to perform miracles in their churches.

“Most of these pastors use the water to perform miracles for members of their church” she said

CBN governor, Godwin Emefiele purportedly caught on tape discussing how to cover up N500bn allegedly stolen from the bank

A purported audio tape of Central Bank of Nigeria governor, Godwin Emefiele, discussing how himself and some of his senior executives would cover up a N500 billion allegedly stolen from the apex bank, has surfaced online.

Sahara Reporters  shared the audio tape online with claims that Emefiele and his Deputy Edward Lametek Adamu alongside the Director for Finance in the apex bank, Dayo M. Arowosegbe as well as one of the Special Advisers to the CBN Governor, Emmanuel Ukeje, were discussing on how to cover up the loss of over N500billion stolen from the CBN in a private investment that flopped.

Below is how Sahara Reporters shared the story

Quote:Two authentic telephone audio tapes exclusively obtained by SaharaReporters reveal how the governor and top officials of the Central Bank of Nigeria haggled over plots to conceal the loss of huge sums of monies in a Dubai investment according to sources at the bank.
Emefiele is heard saying in the audio to the deputy governor Adamu: "To avoid any serious problem is just, the government to have to agree to give us at least 100 billion cash but the government will not agree. They will kick against it".
Expressing fear over what the opposition will say about the loss of the money which will slip Nigeria into hard times, the CBN governor can be heard in the audio saying: "How do I handle this? to which the deputy governor replied "we have to rack our brain and do something out because we can’t afford it at all, not at this time. Emefiele replies "the implication for the economy is, no no, no".
"The opposition will say it should have depreciated in the project.
The tapes revealed how the top officials managing Nigeria's central bank connived and conspired to cover up financial fraud which has affected the Nigerian economy.
Mr. Emefiele a former Managing Director of Zenith Bank of Nigeria was appointed by former President Goodluck Jonathan to head the CBN in June 2014.
Since assuming the governorship of the Central Bank taking over from now embattled Emor of Kano, Lamido Sanusi, it has been reported that the Central bank Governor has engaged in a series financial scams including foreign currency manipulation, money laundering and roundtripping to favor a group of politically exposed persons close to President Muhammadu Buhari.
He was the governor of the Central Bank when Nigeria slipped into the worse recession in 29 years.
Last week, Mr. Emefiele was renominated for a five-year tenure by President Buhari.
These audio clips show Emefiele discussing extensively with top officials of the bank to conceal the loss made with the shareholders' funds from commercial banks, the monies were reportedly diverted to invest in Dubai to the tune of N500 Billion sometimes towards the end of 2018 and they reportedly lost that investment.

Emefiele repeatedly lamented the hopelessness of a way out of the problem: "I'll have to think of a way out because we cannot afford it at all.
"The implications are just too many to even think about and damaging. We cannot allow this like this, we cannot" he said.
In the discussions captured on tape, top financial officers at the CBN blamed one Arowosegbe and at several points contemplated cooking up the books, discarding several ideas.
At some point in the conversation, they plotted to ask the federal government for the shortfall through the Ministry of Finance but decided against it to limit outside exposure.
As the conversation went on they didn't know what to do to avoid a negative balance sheet for the shareholders' fund entrusted to the apex bank.
SaharaReporters sources at the CBN say Mr. Emefiele and others in the bank eventually found a way out of their dilemma by diverting funds in possession of the CBN and also printing hard cold cash.

Court fixes hearing date on suit seeking to stop Tanko Mohammed’s appointment as CJN
[Image: Tanko-Muhammad-.jpg]

The Federal High Court sitting in Abuja, Monday slated June 3 to commence hearing of the suit challenging the appointment of Justice Ibrahim Tanko Muhammad as the substantive Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN).

The trial judge, Justice Inyang Ekwo, fixed the date after striking out an exparte application seeking to serve the Acting CJN with court processes in the matter after been withdrawn by the applicant and the plaintiff, Chief Malcolm Emokiniovo Omirhobo.
The Acting CJN was represented in court by a counsel, K. O Ajana, and was served with processes in the matter in court.

It would be recalled that the Board of Incorporated Trustees of Malcolm Omirhobo Foundation had, in an exparte motion filed on April 15, asked the court to stop Justice Muhammad’s appointment as CJN pending the hearing and determination of the motion on notice filed by the foundation.
The plaintiff also asked for an order of interim injunction restraining the Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (7th defendant) from confirming the appointment of Justice Muhammad as CJN pending the determination of the substantive suit challenging his appointment.
After reading the affidavit in support of the exparte motion sworn to by Chief Malcolm Emokiniovo Omirhobo, Justice Ekwo then ordered that the National Judicial Council (NJC), Federal Judicial Service Commission, Justice Muhammad, Federal Government, President Muhammadu Buhari, Attorney General of the Federation and the Senate, who are defendants in the motion to be put on notice.

He gave the defendants seven days, upon being served with notice on the matter, to appear and show cause why the application of the plaintiff should not be granted.
Justice Ekwo then adjourned till today for the defendants to appear in court to show cause.
The plaintiff specifically wants the court to stop the appointment of Justice Muhammad as the substantive CJN on the ground that there was violation of the constitution and the code of conduct for judicial officers in the appointment of the Acting CJN.

Alleged N500 billion CBN scandal: Don’t confirm Emefiele – Frank warns Senate
[Image: Timi-Frank.jpg]

A former Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Timi Frank, has asked the Senate to withhold the confirmation of Godwin Emefiele for second term as the governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, over the leaked audio exposing alleged missing N500 billion under his watch.

Frank said it will amount to disservice to the Nation if the red chamber goes ahead on Emefiele’s confirmation without the public knowing how such a huge amount of money disappeared from the treasury.
The Bayelsa born activist was reacting on Monday to an audio published on Sunday by an online medium, Sahara Reporters.

Frank said in recent times, the media has been awash with so many revelations concerning the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Mr. Godwin Emefiele, ranging from the role he played in the money ‘illegally‘ approved for a former National Security Adviser (NSA), Col. Sambo Dasuki to the recent revelation by Dr George Uboh-led Whistleblowers Network, where it was alleged that $2.5billion disappeared under his watch.
In a statement he signed and made available to DAILY POST on Monday, Frank said, “Emefiele must come clean on this audio as well as other issues as it bothers on alleged corrupt practices under his watch.
“I am happy with the dispatch with which the CBN responded to the leaked audio conversation. However, I did not expect anything less than the denial. It is trite that ‘one cannot be a judge in his own case’. Therefore, Let the relevant agencies of government, as well as the National Assembly, investigate these allegations with great depth.

“If the CBN is saying the beginning part of the conversation was omitted, can they provide Nigerians with the full and authentic audio conversation in the interest of transparency and good governance.
“I implore the CBN governor to defend these allegations by himself as he remains a public servant and therefore answerable to the Nigerian people. Anything short of this will amount to covering up.
“I hereby call on the Senate to stand for Nigeria as they have always done. The Senate must not play with the mandate of Nigerians by attempting to confirm Emefiele in the face of this damning allegations. Any attempt to do that will amount to the Senate being complicit on the matter.

“However, having stood firm in the non-confirmation of Ibrahim Magu of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), based on the report from a security agency, I have no doubt that the Senate will do the right thing in this instance.
“I also call on the EFCC to quickly act on these revelations as they have done in the case of Saraki, the president of the Senate by inviting Emefiele to explain his role in the leaked audio as well as other allegations against him that are now in public domain. If all these figures and amount is confirmed, it will be the mother of all corruption in recent times.
“I implore the EFCC to approach this particular case the same way they are approaching Saraki’s case over properties that were subject of litigation up to the Supreme Court level ( where Saraki was discharged and acquitted)is being investigated all over again. True to their words’Nobody is above the law as stated in Saraki’s case’. Please, apply the same principle here.

“Par-adventure, the EFCC fails to investigate the case at hand, it will become clear that the anti-corruption war is merely a witch hunt on the opposition.
“Let me use this medium to call on the President and the Vice President in particular who is the habit of accusing the previous government of massive corruption to act swiftly on all these allegations and show that he is a true vanguard of anti-corruption drive.
“I hope the President on his part, will not defend Emefiele as he did in the case of Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje of Kano State.

“I implore the President to withdraw Emefiele’s nomination to allow for an in-depth investigation of the allegations against the CBN boss.
“Nigerians and members of the international community are watching how this classical case of alleged corrupt practices will be handled.
“The Presidency, the Senate and all other relevant agencies must not play politics with this as it is capable of negatively affecting the economy and investors confidence,” Frank declared.

FG Using EFCC To Intimidate Opposition Leaders, Starting With Saraki -Onuesoke
User Avatar Forum: News
Posted by: Edoman - 05-13-2019, 01:17 PM - No Replies

Chief Sunny Onuesoke is a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and former governorship aspirant in Delta state. In this interview, he speaks on latest issues in the polity such as insecurity and the investigation of Bukola Saraki, outgoing Senate President by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). TEMIDAYO AKINSUYI brings the excerpts:

Despite his victory at the Tribunal, your party’s governorship candidate in the Osun governorship election, Senator Ademola Adeleke lost at the Appeal Court last week. Were you shocked by the verdict?

With all the available evidence presented by our legal team at the Appeal Court, coupled with the ruling of the election tribunal, we had expected the appellate court to upheld the ruling of the tribunal but unfortunately it was not so. Hence, I can say that that the ruling of the appeal came as a huge surprise and shock but that notwithstanding, we know that justice delayed is not justice denied as the people of Osun State would have the last laugh.

Adeleke has vowed to pursue the matter to the Supreme Court. Do you think there is hope for him?

The ruling of the Appeal Court is primarily hinged on the alleged absence of a member of the tribunal who read the lead majority verdict of the tribunal, therefore the ruling of the appeal court did not contest or invalidate the fact that Senator Adeleke won the election but only cited technicalities and speculations to arrive at its decision. So going forward, I am very much optimistic about the chance of our party at the Supreme Court, we are full confidence that the Supreme Court will take into consideration true basis of the case and ensure that justice is delivered to the people of Osun State thereby reclaiming their stolen mandate because the judiciary is still the last hope of the common man.

What do you think is responsible for the upsurge in insecurity in the country especially after the general elections?

The sudden rise in the escalation of insecurity across the nation is connected to number factors and it is very unfortunate that we are finding ourselves in this condition today. No doubt, the proliferation of small arms and other harmful weapons used by thugs of politicians during the electioneering process may have gotten into the wrong hands hence, we are hearing of increased case of banditry, kidnapping and others. Also lack of proper welfare for men of the security forces is another issue bedeviling the security of this nation. A situation where resources that are earmarked for security personnel and other logistics are siphoned and embezzled by political leaders and security heads would only result in a demoralised and ill-motivated security force. Also, indiscipline and poor attitude to work among personnel of the security agencies are also one of the challenges contributing to insecurity in the country. Unemployment among our youth, lack or deterioration of social-economic infrastructure and basic amenities result in economic inequalities and lack of adequate investment in education are among the interwoven factors causing the rise in insecurities across the nation. The icing of the cake among these factors is bad governance and insincerity on the part of government at all levels especially in the northern part of the country to tackle the scourge of corruption that has continue to plague us as a people.

President Muhammadu Buhari will be appointing new set of Ministers soon. How will you assess the performance of the outgoing Ministers?

Majority of their performance has been below expectation with regards to fulfilling their promised changed agenda.

Do you think Godwin Emefiele, Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has performed well to get a tenure extension from President Buhari?

Firstly, let me commend Mr. President for doing the needful. At the point where our economy is still recovering, retaining Emefiele as the CBN boss is the right thing to do. At least, it has gone to show that the President do sometimes listen to the people. We are very much aware by calls in some quarters for the President to drop him and pick someone from the north, if the president had done that, it would only confirm the fear of many Nigerians that he is a president with A Northern Agenda and you know that would have come with serious backlash. Aside from that, Godwin Emefiele has done pretty well as the CBN Governor, especially with regards to the Economic Recovery plan and policy of the President; hence he is still much needed in seeing out the entire process.

What is your take on the decision by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to probe the tenure of outgoing Senate President, Bukola Saraki?

The reason for the continuous harassment of the Senate president is because the ruling party, APC is afraid of the chances of PDP at the ongoing election petition tribunal. No doubt, it is obvious to all that the APC-led government is on a witch-hunting mission against key opposition figures in the country owing to the fact of undeniable evidence before the election tribunal in the just concluded presidential election. Starting with the Senate President, Senator Bukola Saraki, it is part of a sinister plot to instill fear and intimidate members of the opposition. On what basis is this renewed investigation if not for the purpose of hounding the senate president? He has been investigated and cleared by the Supreme Court after several attempts by this same government to drag him to the mud. Like I have always maintained in the past, no one is above the law and the war against corruption should spare no one but institutions of state such as the EFCC should not be used as tool to harassed, intimidate and oppressed citizens of this country like we have today in the case of the senate president.

Do you the 2015 coup in the National Assembly can still occur in the Ninth National Assembly?

Nothing is impossible, we are having very reasonable sizes in both Chambers to cause another upset just like in 2015. If the majority party think they can just impose their stooge on the leadership of the ninth assembly undermining the main opposition party in the house, well that they do at their own peril. In one way or the other the PDP, still have a major role to play with regards to the outcome of the leadership in the 9th assembly in both houses. The PDP is not just a minority but a significant minority that can spring the any surprise if the majority party in house fails in the execution of their game plan like in the case of 2015.

Do you think the presidency should move to the South in 2023 or remain in the North?

I don’t see any reason it should not come to the South in 2023. It will not be fair to the South since the North would have had their share of 8 years. From indication at the just concluded 2019 election, both the ruling APC and the main opposition party PDP fielded candidates from the Northern part of the country owing to the principle of fairness and equity having realised that it was still the turn of the North to produce the president. So it is expected that come 2023, such would be the order of the day during the election so as to maintain a sense of belonging to all Nigerians from all walks of life whether from the North or from the South.

Heads of anti-corruption agencies in Africa seek repatriation of stolen assets from Europe and US

Heads of Anti-Corruption Agencies have requested Heads of Government in Europe, the United States and other jurisdictions to work towards speedy and unfettered repatriation of recovered assets to African countries.

This was contained in a communique issued at the end of the 9th Commonwealth Regional Conference of Anti-Corruption Agencies in Africa at the Lake Victoria Serena Golf Resort & Spa in Kampala, Uganda.

The event took place between May 6 and 10, 2019 and was attended by most of the Heads of anti-graft agencies in Africa with a theme titled: “Time to act: Prevent corruption for sustainable development.”

President of the Republic of Uganda, Yoweri Museveni declared the conference open on Monday, May 6, 2019 while the Commonwealth Secretary General, Hon Patricia Scotland, spoke on remarkable achievements of anti-graft Agencies in Africa.

The Acting Chairman of the EFCC and the immediate Chairman of Association of Anti- Corruption Agencies in Commonwealth Africa, Ibrahim Magu, spoke during the conference and highlighted major achievements of the commission under his watch. Experts from different walks of life further gave illuminating experiences and solutions on how to tackle the menace of corruption.

The communique further urged Anti-Corruption Agencies to emulate the EFCC and acquire polygraph technology as part of their investigative and integrity testing process. The EFCC is the only agency in Commonwealth Africa using the technology for corruption cases in courts. An investigator with the commission had demonstrated the use of the Polygraph just as other agencies made enquiries from the EFCC on how to acquire the technology for positive development in anti-graft war.

The conference also expressed concerns over the heavy losses that Africa suffers as a result of illegal transfers of proceeds of corruption and crime out of Africa. It added that there was the need to strengthen cooperation and collaboration among the Anti-Corruption Agencies in Commonwealth Africa for purposes of facilitating asset recovery and return.

The conference further acknowledged the benefits of a platform for discussing emerging issues and sharing good practices and country innovations in the fight against corruption. It noted that delegates made presentations on the theme of the Conference, discussed innovative measures employed by Anti-Corruption Agencies and explored other aspects of the programme of the Conference.

The Conference urged Anti-Corruption Agencies to pursue both preventive and enforcement measures in the fight against corruption within the unique context of each country.

The communique further reads in part:

Quote:“CALL upon the Commonwealth Secretary General and the Government of Rwanda to include Anti-Corruption as a side event of the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) to be held in Rwanda in 2020;
“FURTHER CALL upon Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) to include the issue of Anti-Corruption as part of the communique for its meeting to be held in Rwanda in 2020;

Photos: Two Nigerian nationals, one South African woman arrested in India’s biggest ever narcotics seizure

In India’s biggest ever narcotics seizure, the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) has recovered 1,818kg of pseudoephedrine from a house in Greater Noida and arrested two Nigerian nationals, and one South African national.

Officers said that the house, which belongs to an Indian Police Service (IPS) officer was being used as a drug-manufacturing unit. The approximate value of the seized drugs are estimated to be more than Rs1,000 crore.

Madhav Singh, zonal director, NCB, said the seizure is India’s biggest-ever narcotics haul and the world’s largest pseudoephedrine seizure in the past three years.

According to NCB officials, on Thursday morning following a tip off, the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) intercepted a 31-year-old woman passenger, Nomsa Lutalo, from South Africa, at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International airport.

The woman was to board a flight to Johannesburg via Dubai.
“On checking her bags, they found 24.7kg pseudoephedrine from her bags. On questioning, the woman said she had been handed the consignment in Greater Noida by two people from Nigeria. She said she was asked to carry the same to Johannesburg and was promised good money in exchange,” Singh said.

Based on Lutalo’s interrogation, an NCB team conducted a raid at the identified premise in Sector P4 of Greater Noida the same day.
“A man, Henry Ideofor (35) and a woman, Chimando Okora (30) were living in the house. Both are from Nigeria. During searches, we found several canisters and boxes in the house, containing 1,818kg of pseudoephedrine. We also recovered 1.9kg cocaine,” Singh said.

He said that pseudoephedrine is a precursor used for manufacturing narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances. The export of pseudoephedrine requires a no-objection certificate from the narcotics commissioner.

The UN Convention Against the Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances, 1988, identifies 23 precursors that need to be controlled. Pseudoephedrine is one of them, the officer said.

During questioning, the Nigerian nationals told officials that they bought the chemical from various illicit sources and were storing it to manufacture drugs.
“They also used to manufacture fake heroin and transport it out of the country, illegally. They claim to have also distributed the drugs in Delhi-NCR. The precursor and manufactured drugs were mostly sent to countries in Africa, the two said,” Singh said.

Ideofor and Okora told officials they had taken the house on rent and had been living there since 2015. Investigations revealed that the house belongs to Devendra PN Pandey, an IPS officer posted with the UP Police’s Economic Offences Wing in Lucknow.

When contacted, Pandey said he had rented out the house through a property dealer and was unaware of the activities going on there.
“I had no knowledge of the drug business being run from my house. I have not even received any rent for the past year and had made complaint to the circle officer against the two Nigerian nationals. The rent agreement also clearly mentions that the residents will be responsible for any illegal activity,” he said.

Pandey said he had bought the property for Rs7.2 lakh in 2000.

Man who was abandoned in Gatwick Airport toilet as a baby finally finds his parents 33 years after

A man who was abandoned in an airport toilet when he was a baby has finally found his parents 33 years after.

Steve Hydes was discovered in a toilet in the South Terminal at Gatwick Airport 33 years ago.  He was found by sales assistant Beryl Wright dressed in two babygrows and wrapped in a blanket in the women’s toilets at Gatwick on April 10, 1986, when he was believed to be 10 days old.

No one knew his name or where he was from so he was named Gary Gatwick - the name of the airport’s mascot. He then grew up as a foster kid before being adopted by a family with three sisters.

Over 3 decades after he was found in the toilet, Steve Hydes has finally discovered who he really is, thanks to experts who took DNA samples and have now found who his parents are. Sadly Steve's mother died before he got a chance to meet her. His father is still alive and he has found out that he has siblings, but they did not know he existed.

Announcing the news on Facebook, Steve said: "After 15 years of searching I am happy to confirm that with the very hard work of Genetic Genealogists, CeCe Moore and Helen Riding we have been able to trace and confirm my birth family. Unfortunately, my birth mum has passed away so I am unable to find out exactly what happened and why.

"However I have found my birth father and siblings on both sides, who were all unaware of my existence.

"As you can imagine this is quite a sensitive issue to all involved and very new to us all, but I wanted to take this time to thank everyone for their continued support over the years. The work the Genealogists do is incredible and for years they have worked so hard and it is thanks to them they are solving cases like mine. More people are having their DNA tested every day and I hope this and my story can help raise awareness and prevent other babies from being abandoned.

"Thank you to all those who have been involved and have helped with my search.

Steve began the search for his parents because he wanted to tell his daughters more about his family background and their heritage. He said he never harboured any ill-feeling towards his biological parents, but was curious about his past.

President Buhari to be inaugurated on May 29th, not June 12th- Presidency

The Presidency has clarifed that the inauguration of President Buhari for a second term will hold on May 29th and not June 12th as is being speculated.

There have been reports that the inauguration will hold on June 12th which the Federal government last year declared as Democracy day.

However in an interview with Punch, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, said there is no truth to the report as President Buhari will be inaugurated for his second term on Wednesday, May 29th.

Quote:“There is no truth in that report. As a matter of fact, we will soon issue a statement on it to clear the air. The President was inaugurated for his first term in office on May 29, 2015. He ceases to be President on May 29, 2019, if he is not inaugurated for his second term on that day. For the avoidance of doubt, there is no plan to shift the President’s inauguration to June 12. The inauguration will hold on May 29.  Those claiming that the inauguration will be shifted to June 12 are only trying to cause confusion in the polity. It is not true.” Garba said
Buhari last year changed the nation’s Democracy Day from May 29 to June 12 of every year. A bill he sent to the National Assembly to amend the nation’s Public Holidays Act has since been passed into law. The declaration was part of the decision taken to honour the winner of the annulled June 12, 1993 presidential election, the late Chief M.K.O. Abiola.

Journalist and women's rights campaigner, Mena Mangal shot dead in broad daylight

An Afghan journalist and political advisor, Mena Mangal, who was vocal about women’s rights in the country, has been shot dead in broad daylight, just days after saying she believed her life was in danger.

Mena Mangal was shot dead on Saturday morning in a public place while she was on her way to work in the capital city of Kabul.

Nasrat Rahimi, a spokesman for the interior ministry, said one or possibly more assailants had escaped the scene but no one has immediately claimed responsibility for the attack and police say it is not yet clear whether the murder was a terror attack or an attack from someone Ms Mangal knew.

Women’s rights activists have expressed grief and anger that Ms Mangal was not better protected by authorities despite making her fears clear.

“This woman had already shared that her life was in danger. Why did nothing happen? We need answers,” Wazhma Frogh, an Afghan human rights lawyer and women’s rights campaigner said in a post on Twitter. Frogh said Mangal had recently posted on Facebook that she feared for her life and was receiving threats.

Mangal was a highly regarded former journalist who had worked at Tolo TV, the largest private broadcaster in Afghanistan, as well as Shamshad and Lemar television stations. She had also recently become a cultural adviser to the lower chamber of Afghanistan’s national parliament.

FG will no longer do business with AMCON debtors - Osinbajo

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has said the Federal Government will deal decisively with individuals and organisations that made the list of high-profile obligors of Asset Management Corporation of Nigeria (AMCON).

He said they have made it impossible for the corporation to resolve its outstanding N5trillion debt thereby holding the entire nation to ransom with their bad behaviour.

A statement from AMCON also said Prof. Osinbajo who is the Chairman of the Economic Council disclosed plans by government to set up an inter-agency collaboration framework that would comprise relevant government Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) and supervised by the office of the Vice President to ensure that institutions and individuals that are indebted to AMCON are not allowed to do business with government henceforth.

The Vice President who spoke at the weekend when he received some Board members and Management of AMCON at the State House, Abuja led by the Board Chairman, Muiz Banire, SAN said the Federal Government under the leadership of President Muhammadu Buhari, will no longer fold its hands and allow a few individuals that owe AMCON huge sums of money walk freely on the streets in the country.

Quote:He said, “I think the time has come for us (Federal Government) to set some examples with some of these top debtors of AMCON, which I believe will set a good example and serve as deterrent to others.”
Prof. Osinbajo who said he was impressed with the performance of the executive management of AMCON under the leadership of Ahmed Lawan Kuru for the recovery successes that have been achieved so far against all odds, also promised that the Federal Government would give AMCON whatever support that is necessary to enable them go after the obligors that have remained recalcitrant”.

He said, “I congratulate AMCON for the work done so far having recovered over N1trillion and counting both in cash and in assets. The work you do as a recovery agency is not something that is particularly easy or encouraging because we all know how Nigeria works. But we are committed to working more closely with your administration to ensure that these monies are recovered from AMCON obligors because it will help our economy and provide the government with more money to continue to improve on the development of infrastructure across the nation.”

Gunmen kill Catholic priest, worshippers in Burkina Faso church attack

Unknown gunmen have killed six people including a Catholic priest as Mass was being celebrated in a church located in Dablo, northern Burkina Faso.

According to a government statement, the worshippers were attending morning mass when at least 20 men surrounded them and shot six dead.
"These terrorist groups are now attacking religion with the macabre aim of dividing us," the statement said.
"Towards 9 a.m. during mass, armed individuals burst into the Catholic Church," the mayor of Dablo, Ousmane Zongo said. "They started firing as the congregation tried to flee."
The attackers then burned down the church, a shop, two vehicles, and also looted a health centre.

No one has claimed responsibility for the church attack, but fighters affiliated to al-Qaeda and the Islamic State group, as well as the local Ansarul Islam, have been active in the region, according to BBC.

Last month, attackers targeted a Protestant church in the town of Silgadji, killing at least six people and earlier in April, four people died when a Catholic church was attacked in a nearby village, the bishop of Dori in northern Burkina Faso told Vatican news agency Fides.

You are a senior advocate in the demonic world''Nigerian man calls out another man who dated his friend for 18 years and dumped her to marry another lady

A Nigerian man by the name Shadrack Okpomhe, has taken to his Facebook page to call out another man named Olorogun Jude Akporu.

In his post, Shadrack claimed Akporu dated his female friend for 18 years since their secondary school days and has dumped her to marry another lady.

An angry Shadrack wrote

Quote:He Dated my friend for 18yrs and dumped her to marry another lady.
O KARmA, I call on you to visit this man Asap
My religion doesn't permit us or me sometimes to call anyone a demon, but this particular man here makes me equate him not only to a demon, but a senior advocate in the demonic world, sometimes I wonder why ladies commit suicide just because of failed relationships or marriage in as much I don't encourage it, but there are some cases they got no option than to take their own life, but this won't be the case because karma isn't a bitch anymore but an asshole in the hood.
The pictures of the man here is named Olorogun Jude Akporu he has been dating a friend of mine for the past 18yrs, from secondary school down to higher institution till on Friday night 10-5-2019, my friend does alot of things for him to make him happy at all cost, before then he blocked my friend on facebook and chats her up only on WhatsApp just because of his new found love, each time. My Friend talks about it, he gives her hope that she shouldn't worry that he in charge , to the extent he extorted my friend over a million naira , few weeks ago, the banns of marriage was announced in the church behold it was Jude whose name was mentioned, and when we heard about it, I called my friends attention who couldn't even believe her eyes anymore, only for this man to come around and tell my friend that, his parents are the ones forcing the lady on him that it was never his intention to marry that lady at same time she is the one he loves, this went on and on with much plea and crocodile ? tears ? .
He even encouraged my friend to get pregnant for him so that he can use that as a tool to cancel the already proposed marriage.
Just yesterday this wolf in a sheep clothing wedded Another lady
People like you make ladies go extra mile to Commit suicide or life unbearable for who causes them pain, and If my friend should go an extra mile to make this happen, I won't blame her for anything because you choose to be heartless and inhuman, what you won't want another person to do to you as a Person because it hurts and might lead to what one never planned for.
Seriously Mr Olorogun Jude Snooty, pray to God to forgive you your sins
Now u are happily married and according to your facebook status you talk about been a honest person, what does it take to be honest when you ain't honest to your own self?
What has happened to your conscience?
Did you sell it or it's been stolen from you or you lost it?
Karma isn't a bitch anymore, but a staff of the Neibourhood and I hope this pain you just caused tonight won't linger in your home forever.
All wish you all the pain and agony you have caused another sister whose in tears and pain right now .
I just pray God help your wicked and diabolic soul

Wife stabs hobby for interrupting her sex session with lovers

A Zimbabwe man has allegedly been stabbed by his wife for interrupting her sex session with her lovers after he caught the trio red-handed in the act.

Tinei Muchena was said to have gotten the shock of his life when he caught his wife pants down with two men in their matrimonial bed.

To his surprise, his unapologetic wife allegedly left him nursing wounds after she stabbed him for interrupting.

Iharare quoted B-Metro as saying that the matter came to light after Nelia Ndlovu was hauled to court by her husband for allegedly assaulting him.

The court heard that on 29 April 2019, Muchena knocked off from work around 8.00pm and headed straight home.

Upon arrival at his residence in Mbuzo, he was shocked when he found two male seated on his bed.

He then quizzed the duo what they were doing in his bedroom let alone naked on his bed.

This, however, infuriated Ndlovu who started accusing Muchena of entering without knocking.

An altercation was reported to have broken out leading to Ndlovu drawing a knife and stabbing Muchena on the right hand and he sustained cuts on the fingers.

He was then scurried to the hospital where he received stitches on the fingers that were left dangling by the wife.

Presiding magistrate Story Rushambwa sentenced Ndlovu to three months imprisonment.

Probe Ngige now, labour tells Buhari, begins protest today

                              [Image: mYH9svHVHF2etuF2F_8IrFm2grSyQI9FqFLXsecj..._bfeM=s0-d]
The organised labour yesterday called on President Muhammadu Buhari to probe the involvement of Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr. Chris Ngige, in the affairs of the Nigeria Social Investment Trust Fund (NSITF).The demand came as the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) begins a protest in Abuja against the minister today.

NLC President Ayuba Wabba, however, told The Guardian last night that the protest would not be against the inauguration of the NSITF board, but the manner in which Ngige superintended the affairs of the labour sector in the past three years and the recent attacks on protesters at the minister’s residence.

Labour members protesting against alleged refusal by Ngige to inaugurate the board of the NSITF had picketed the minister’s premises last week. The action ended in a violent clash between Ngige’s supporters and the demonstrators.
While the inauguration of the new board takes place in Aso Rock, labour and its allies vow they would be on the streets venting their displeasure against the minister.

Wabba said the labour movement was not particular about inaugurating Frank Kokori, a former general secretary of the Nigerian Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG), as the chair of the board but that a board should be in place to halt the alleged reign of Ngige as sole administrator of NSITF.

“We expect President Buhari to establish a commission of enquiry to look into the award of contracts and employment of 300 persons by the minister, if this administration is serious about fighting corruption. Our members will be at the inauguration tomorrow (today) because it is statutory.”Wabba maintained that whether Kokori is eventually made the board chair of NSITF or not, labour would ensure that the representatives of both the NLC and NECA resist the running of the Fund by proxy.

The presidency meanwhile clarified its position on the non-inauguration of Kokori as chairman of the board yesterday, saying Buhari approved the action.A statement by the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, said that all the decisions taken by Ngige, in relation to the NSITF, were part of the plans by Buhari to reposition the agency.
Kokori, who was first named board chairman, was later redeployed to the Michael Imoudu Institute of Labour Studies Ilorin (MINILS). He has not officially reacted to the latest development.

According to Adesina, “All actions taken by Ngige towards the resuscitation and repositioning of this ailing agency, including the administrative panel of inquiry into the affairs of NSITF and the suspension of the inauguration of the board in 2018 were part of the special work plan approved for the minister by Mr. President.”

The presidency said efforts were on to reconcile Ngige and the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) whose president, Ayuba Wabba, has vowed to call out workers for a massive protest beginning from today. The statement reads in part: “Following the disagreement between the Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment and the leadership of the NLC over the appointment of the chairman of the board of the NSITF, the presidency wishes to clarify as follows:

“ • That the NSITF is a hundred percent, Federal Government of Nigeria-owned insurance parastatal, under the supervision of the Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment, designed for the role of insuring workers (employees) in the public and private sectors. The organisation is empowered by law to implement the Employee Compensation Act (ECA) 2010 with mandate to insure workers and pay them compensation for accidents, deaths and injuries in the course of work;

“ • That the NSITF was bedevilled and riddled with corruption between 2012 and 2015, which resulted in a colossal loss and mismanagement of about N48 billion out of the total N62 billion contributions during the said period. These were contributions by the employers – viz government and the private sector for payment of compensation to workers and even to employers for loss of man-hours by their workers. The fraud has been investigated by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the last chairman and some members of the former board and some officials of the NSITF are presently being prosecuted by the EFCC;

“• That all actions taken by the minister towards the resuscitation and repositioning of the agency, including the suspension of the inauguration of the board in 2018 were part of the special work plan approved for Ngige by Buhari; and

“ • That the appointment of the chairman of this board, which is in consonance with Section 4(a) of the NSITF Act CAP N88 of 2004, was also approved by Mr. President since 23rd July, 2018 on the recommendation of the minister. Mr. Austin Enejamo-Isire, a Chartered Accountant, Fellow, Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) and renowned insurance expert, was approved by Mr. President for this position. Also approved by Mr. President were the managing director and three executive directors who had assumed duties since 18 April 2017.

“Others also approved as non-executive directors are two members to represent the NLC, two members to represent the Nigerian Employers’ Consultative Association (NECA) and one member each to represent the Central Bank of Nigeria and the Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment.” Adesina said members of the board would be formally inaugurated at 9:00 a.m. today, May 13, 2019 by the minister at the Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa, Aso Rock, Abuja.

“Kokori , our respected veteran labour leader, has Mr. President’s immense respect and has also been appointed on the recommendation of the minister to chair the board of Michael Imoudu National Institute for Labour Studies (MINILS), a diploma awarding labour institution,” the statement said. The presidency expressed concern and regret over the events that culminated in a skirmish at the private residence of Ngige and condemned it.

Oshiomhole, PDP and gathering storm against Obaseki’s second term in Edo

The storms have started gathering against Governor Godwin Obaseki’s second term aspiration in Edo State. As the schemings gain traction, the two major political parties, the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and main opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) are putting forth their best feet, thus promising to make the forthcoming Edo 2020 very explosive.

Already, there are telltale signs that the APC national chairman, Adams Oshiomhole and the incumbent government are engaging in some political hide and seek. While Obaseki’s close allies are pressuring him to dump his running mate Hon. Shuaibu in the 2016 gubernatorial election, some PDP stalwarts have designed a ‘cold’ strategy to use Obaseki to turn the tide against APC chairman.

Meanwhile, Gen. Charles Airhiavbre who is believed to be banking on both Oshiomhole’s and PDP’s support seems to be caught in the middle of the intrigues, especially after the governor returned from his overseas vacation to announce that there was no division between him and the APC chairman. The development has given rise to a multiplicity of interest groups within the ruling party in Edo.

Between Oshiomhole, Obaseki

ONE feature of the political unease in the state is the inability of party chieftains to put a handle to the hazy relationship between Oshiomhole and Obaseki. As such it has been difficult for stakeholders to declare their allegiance to either of the duo openly for fear of possible backlash.

However, a chieftain of the party in the state, Chief Francis Inegbiniki, who decided not to sit on the fence in the matter, recently stated that Obaseki’s second term ambition would remain a fantasy until he (the governor) secures the backing of the APC national chairman. Inegbiniki stressed that the current political structure being raised by Governor Obaseki preparatory to the 2020 governorship election would, rather than lead him to victory, end up in shameful defeat.

While contending that “authentic” APC leaders would not allow the governor destroy Oshiomhole’s legacies in the state, Inigbeniki, who was APC Senatorial candidate for Edo Central in 2015, accused the governor of playing treacherous politics. He regretted that the governor fell out of reckoning by jettisoning the political structure Oshiomhole built and which brought him to power.

His words: “Obaseki’s style of politics is alien to modern day politics; his style of politics is treacherous. Some of us that are grassroots politicians did not know Obaseki untill Oshiomole introduced him to us sometimes in the year 2000.

“Before then Obaseki had never voted in any election in the state. He was not a politician. Oshiomole made Obaseki politically. But today, Obaseki is showing ingratitude by trying to destroy the ladder with which he climbed to the top. He is now dining and wining with all those Oshiomhole fought to make him governor.“He has equally abandoned all the projects Oshiomhole commenced in the state and, in fact, chased away all APC leaders who made him governor. That is why I laughed when I read the statement signed by my good friend Osarodion Ogie, who is now the Secretary to the State Government, who claimed there is no problem between Obaseki and Oshiomhole, which is pure hypocrisy.”

Inigbeniki alleged that Obaseki started by fighting all Oshiomhole’s loyalists, stressing that as one of the most experienced politicians in Edo State today, “I know that in life if you say the truth, you will die; if you don’t say the truth, you will still die. So, let me say the truth before I die.”He maintained that Obaseki had betrayed Oshiomole and most of the people who made him, pointing out that the governor must therefore work hard to earn a second term, since according to him, “some of us objected to Oshiomole making Obaseki the candidate of the party in 2017.

“We later agreed based on our respect for the former governor and campaigned round the state, convincing Edo people that it was going to be continuity. The APC structure you see in Edo State today was put in place by Comrade Oshiomole; it was that structure that was used to make Obaseki governor. But today where is the structure?”
Inegbeniki said the new Obaseki structure could not stand as some of them have vowed not to stand aloof to see Oshiomhole’s structure destroyed. He said Obaseki and his loyalists organised the last National Assembly and Presidential election with their structure and failed in their units, wards and local governments, including the governor’s. So, without Oshiomhole, they will fail again.”

The APC stalwart counseled Obaseki to watch the utterances of those around him, particularly the young boys he brought from Lagos carrying laptops and POS around, saying, “We are watching them and Edo people will react soonest.”

PDP’s hide and seek
MEANWHILE, the opposition PDP has decided to up the ante in the shadow-boxing between godfather and godson in the state. Notable figures in the party had, during a courtesy visit on the governor, commended him for his sterling performance. But while the gesture riled those within the ruling party who have a soft spot for Oshiomhole and raised speculations that PDP was trying to appropriate the governor and his incumbency factor to requite Oshiomhole’s betrayal in 2007, the state chapter of PDP dissociated itself from the visit.

In a statement, Edo State chapter of PDP described the visit of two of its chieftains, Esama of Benin, Chief Gabriel Igbinedion, and Chief Tom Ikimi, to the governor as mere ‘private visits,’ insisting that “the visits were private and so were the comments, discussions and purported endorsements credited to them.”

Signed by the party’s spokesman, Mr. Chris Nehikhare, Edo PDP in the statement not only disassociated itself from all that transpired between the leaders and Obaseki, but also stated that “it is abnormal and not politically suave for party leaders to endorse aspirants of another party other than the candidate of their party.”PDP left a lot to imagination by stating that “at the appropriate time in accordance with our party’s constitution, a credible PDP candidate will be nominated to contest the governorship election to liberate the state from poverty, insecurity, unemployment and unimaginable colossal debts.”

But, while the puzzle was still in the air, the statement from a former Minister of External Affairs and PDP chieftain, Ikimi, made matters more intriguing. Ikimi had urged Governor Obaseki to remain focused and continue to work for the good of the people.Chief Ikimi stated that the governor had warmed his way into the hearts of Edo people with his impressive performance since he took up the mantle of leadership in the state. While urging the governor to remain “focused and continue with his remarkable passion to develop the state into an industrial hub,” Ikimi canvassed support for the governor, even as his visit swelled the rank of opposition party leaders, who defied party leanings to express admiration and support for his development strides.

APC divided in tongue, lineup
ALTHOUGH the encomiums showered on the governor came from the opposition and ought to elicit joy in APC’s ranks, the ruling party manifested further the incipient division within its fold over who ultimately should get the party’s governorship ticket for the gubernatorial poll slated for 2020 in the state.Just as the Oredo Local Government Area chapter of APC urged the governor to seek re-election on the strength of his performance in office and pledged unwavering support to deliver the governor should he signify interest, a group within the party has warned Obaseki not to re-contest.

The group, Concerned Edo Youths for Good Governance (CEYGG), said the party should decide who gets APC’s ticket through a credible, free and fair primary in the state. In a statement signed by its Director of Publicity, Dr. Calistus Osamoyi, the group admonished Obaseki to be wary of those endorsing him for a second term, stressing: “It is nauseating to hear people saying there is no vacancy in Osadebey Avenue, because they want to make Obaseki happy. We are calling on these party leaders to allow Edo people pick their governor come 2020 and not leaders, who have already compromised and are trying to justify their pay.”

The group explained that APC is known for conducting primaries even in states where they have sitting governors, adding that Obaseki must merit a second term and not through sycophants who are professionals in creating crisis so they could feast on the governor.Yet, Oredo APC leaders insist that it has endorsed the governor as its sole candidate at the poll as a reward for hard work. The endorsement was contained in a communiqué issued after a meeting of the local government executives, ward chairmen, councilors and leaders from the 12 wards.

Signed by Hon. Goodwill Alabi, Chairman (Oredo LGA APC), Magdalene Isekhuere (Secretary) and 40 others, the leaders expressed confidence in Adams Oshiomhole, national chairman of the party, noting: “At the moment, Edo State stands out in all development spheres, heads and shoulders above states that are far more privileged in internally generated revenue (IGR) and federal allocation.“As the saying goes, the reward for hard work is more work. We therefore urge Governor Obaseki to heed our call of governing the state for another four years.”

Obaseki’s banter
On its face value, the assurance by governor Obaseki that there was no rift between him and Oshiomhole upon his return from his yearly vacation could assuage the feelings of all interest groups, politicians and aspirants spoiling for war ahead of APC’s guber primaries.

But the caveat is that most stakeholders, especially those siding Oshiomhole, describe the warm sentiments as mere banter. They have continued to devise tactics aimed at giving Governor Obaseki red card. The political atmosphere in Edo State remains charged as APC’s guber primary, slated for later in the year has divided party members and leaders, who hitherto were not only loyal to the governor, but worked for the success of the party.

Things seem to have fallen apart between the governor, his supporters and allies as most of his supposed henchmen and friends within the APC are now gunning for his job. Some topnotch members in the ruling party confided in The Guardian that it would take God’s timely intervention to stop aggrieved party members from going ahead to hatch the grand plan to deny the governor the party’s nomination ticket for the 2020 poll.

The aggrieved members maintain that it would be wise for Obaseki to heed the advice of not going for re-election than allow the leaders reject him during the party primary, and cautioned him to avoid a repeat of what transpired in Lagos state.

Events keep unfolding as the days go by. Those loyal to the former governor and national chairman, believe Oshiomhole has what it takes to fix and install whoever becomes the next governor, considering the enormous power he wields and his political acumen.

Those in Oshiomhole’s camp are waiting for him to direct the political alignment to adopt for 2020 guber. They recall how Oshiomhole handpicked Obaseki and anointed him to succeed him against all odds in 2016.Even Oshiomhole’s deputy, Pius Odubu, who was regarded as the most sought-after by party leaders was turned down, only to suffer defeat at the primary, because Oshiomhole never supported him despite a series of warning for him to desist in 2016.

Those who have decided to pitch tent with Obaseki doubt Oshiomhole’s political dexterity to determine the political direction and permutations of the state’s guber and are therefore gearing up to a tough fight against his loyalists. On paper, it looks as if the fierce battle between Obaseki and Oshiomhole would be won and lost during the party primary as both men wield so much power as incumbent and former governor of the state.

However, Oshiomhole, whose political profile seems to be growing by the day, might have to contend with Obaseki, who has, within a short time on the saddle, won the hearts of many residents in the state following his ‘wake and see’ projects spread across the state.

For his monumental transformational ideology and people-oriented projects, Obaseki is without doubt gradually winning the people’s trust and confidence as they have given support in his last three years in office. On that basis, it is likely that the electorate would want the governor for another term given his track record, which has earned him the fond epithet “Wake and See Governor.”

The Guardian gathered that despite the performance of Obaseki, Oshiomhole’s loyalists are hell bent on ousting him. They claim that Obaseki is not generous with public funds to service politicians in the state. It is also the issue of financial handouts that seem to have pitched governor Obaseki against some leaders of the party, with many accusing the governor of being self-centred, similar to the accusations against Governor Ambode of Lagos State.

Obaseki had on many occasions stated unequivocally that he would not use Edo taxpayers’ money to service politicians in the state, maintaining that taxpayers’ money is for the development of the state. This is quite understandable for a man who is coming from the private sector. Obaseki, while marking the first-year anniversary celebration of Edo State Task Force Against Human Trafficking at Government House in Benin City in 2018, emphasised that under his watch, money meant for the development of the state will not be shared.

He said: “All Edo State Government’s money will be used for the development of the state. This is the brand of politics I have chosen to play. Our developmental challenges are so enormous and only a frugal and prudent utilisation of taxpayers’ money would ameliorate the sufferings of our people.”It was gathered that the governor’s statement that “no matter the pressure and irrespective of the quarters such pressure would come from, I will not break my oath with Edo people, to provide purposeful leadership” has continued to ruffle feathers in the state.

Party leaders rose in anger and that marked the beginning of the cold war between Obaseki and politicians, particularly influential party leaders who are now at loggerheads with his leadership style. With speed and deftness, party leaders went to town on a campaign of calumny against the governor, insisting he must not return for a second term on the platform of APC. They did not stop there; they began to desperately shop for his replacement come 2020.

To achieve their goal, the disgruntled leaders have teamed up with powers at the federal level. But as Obaseki succeeded in keeping the pestilential politicians away from Government House, another challenge has cropped up.This time, the party’s primary got him busy again and Obaseki had to ruffle feathers with Oshiomhole and other power blocks on a mission to take control of the party’s structure from him at the state level.

Should he succumb to loyalists of Oshiomhole’s camp who are determined to hijack the party’s levers? Obaseki quickly identified his foot soldiers and equipped them for the task ahead. He quickly learnt for the first time how to combine both the art of politics and business of providing governance for the people.

Notable among the governor’s loyalists are member representing Oredo East Constituency in Edo State House of Assembly (EDHA), Mr. Osaigbovo Iyoha, and the Assembly Speaker, Alhaji Kabiru Adjoto, who have joined forces with him to fight perceived political enemies of his administration. However, the duo fought hard to win their elections into the Federal House of Representatives during the last polls without luck.

The Guardian investigation revealed that some of the APC chieftains expected to join the guber race include former APC gubernatorial aspirants, Airhiavbere, Engr. Chris Ogiewmonyi, and former Deputy Governor, Pius Odubu, who contested for the nomination ticket in the party’s primary that produced Governor Obaseki as its flag bearer in 2016.
