Fayemi Sacks Over 2,000 Workers Employed By Fayose - Edoman - 05-16-2019

Governor Fayemi Kayode of Ekiti State has relieved over 2,000 workers in the state of their duties.

Igbere TV gathered that the affected workers are those ‘hurriedly appointed’ by the immediate past governor, Peter Ayodele Fayose.

Igbere TV recalls that Fayose had announced their appointment after the July 2018 governoship election in the state.

The decision, according to a statement made available by Igbere TV by the Ekiti State government, followed deliberations by the State Exective Council (SEC) on the report of the committee headed by the Deputy Governor, Otunba Bisi Egbeyemi, that reviewed irregular appointments made between 2014 and 2018.

The government said the recruitment exercise violated due process.

Igbere TV gathered that the affected 2,000 workers comprises 600 teachers recruited into the Teaching Service Commission (TSC), 400 personnel employed into the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) and 1,000 injected into the system through the Office of Establishment and Training, among others.

Briefing journalists on the development in Ado on Thursday, the Commissioner for Information, Tourism and Values Orientation, Muyiwa Olumilua declared the appointments as null and void, adding that they were hurriedly done with ulterior motives and in bad faith.

The Commissioner disclosed that the governor had directed the Head of Service, Ayodeji Ajayi, to collate all available vacancies in the Civil Service, with a view to recruiting suitable and qualified Ekiti citizens into the Public Service, irrespective of religious and political affinities.

Olumilua, however, urged the affected workers to participate in the next recruitment excercise to be announced in due course.

RE: Fayemi Sacks Over 2,000 Workers Employed By Fayose - Edoman - 05-20-2019

#Still on Fayemi's Sack of 2,000 workers in Ekiti

As at August 2018, vacancies in the Ekiti State Public Service were 4,925.

Students of history of recruitment into the Public Service in the old Ondo State will remember that in 1981 and 1982, the UPN Govt of late Chief Adekunle Ajasin did mass recruitment of workers just as it was done in other Southwest States of Oyo, Ogun and Lagos then.

By 2016/2017, these workers had reached the mandatory 35 years in service, thereby occasioning mass retirements in 2016 and 2017.

Consequently, out of the identified 4,925 vacancies, 2,000 was approved for recruitment in 2018.

As at today, there will still be more than 3,000 vacancies in the service.

1. Total Vacancies as at 2018 - 4,925

2. Total Workers Recruited - 2,000

3. Financial Implication/Month:
     a. State  - N64,110,162.28 (N64.1m)
     b. LGs.   -  N13,951,950
   ----------------------------------------------
    TOTAL       N78,062,112.28
   ========================

From the above, it should be clear that what the 2,000 workers recruited would have added to the State (including LG) Wage Bill is N78.1m per month and N934m per year.

Whereas Fayemi increased his SECURITY VOTE from N150m to N225m in November last year and later N250m (N100m increment).

So what is additional N64.1m to the State Wage Bill and N14m to the Wage Bill of the 16 LGs that Ekiti Govt can't pay?

And if Fayemi desires to use employment into the State Public Service as patronage to his party members and supporters, there are still over 3,000 existing vacancies.

Like I have maintained, Fayemi only sacked those 2,000 Ekiti indigenes because they were employed by Fayose, nothing more. But tomorrow, history will definitely remember all our deeds of today.
