A 35-year-old man, identified as Miller, is on the run after he allegedly slashed the neck of 49-year-old Azure Ayardako leading to his death at Tutuka, a village near Ahafo Kenyasi in the Asutifi North district of the Ahafo region.

Information gathered by Adom News  suggested that the sad incident happened after Mr Ayardako separated a fight between Miller and his wife known as Mama.

“Miller claimed he had poisoned himself and was just about to kill his wife as well for reasons best known to him before Azure intervened and therefore asked Azure to save him also because he had drunk a weedicide.

“Azure suggested he comes with him to his hut so he could give him palm oil to drink to reduce the effect of the chemical but Miller slashed his neck with a cutlass from behind as they were walking towards the hut and immediately dashed into hiding,” a witness, Yakubu Yusiff claimed.

Meanwhile, the body has been sent to the St Theresa’s Hospital mortuary at Hwidiem with assurance from the District Police Commander, Kofi Akowuah to crack down on the suspect who is on the run.

The Securities and Exchange Commission SEC has ordered the Group Chief Executive Officer of Oando plc, Wale Tinubu, and other board members to resign following an investigation into the company in which they were found culpable of wrong doing.

A statement released by the financial parastatal today Friday May 31st,  barred Tinubu and the Deputy Group Chief Executive Officer of the company, Omamofe Boyo, from being directors of public companies for a period of five years.

As petroleum minister, Buhari should have addressed subsidy issues by now' - Shehu Sani

Senator Shehu Sani has said President Buhari as the minister of petroleum resources should have addressed fuel subsidy “by now.”

Sani said this while speaking on the floor of the upper legislative chamber on Thursday. The senator was contributing to a debate on a report for the payment of subsidy arrears to some oil marketers.

The lawmakers eventually approved a sum of N129 billion as payment for the arrears. The legislator said if Ghana could refine its crude, Nigeria could do the same. According to him, until Nigeria starts refining its crude, the “circle of exploitation” would continue.

Quote:“The issues of subsidy has been lingering. Until we start refining our crude oil this circle of exploitation will be ongoing. The president is the minister of petroleum resources, we thought by now he should have been able to address these issues.
“Refineries built more than three, four decades ago are still lying fallow and we are waiting for Dangote to finish his refinery. Refining [crude] is not rocket science rocket science, if Ghana is refining its product why are we still not. A government that opposes subsidy is still paying [for it], when will this end?”  he said.

GERC to construct 340km railway line in Ghana at $2bn — cost of 156km Lagos-Ibadan rail line

May 31

Facebook294TwitterTelegramCopy LinkW

The Ghanaian- European Railway Consortium (GERC) has agreed to construct a 340km standard gauge railway line in Ghana at $2.2 billion, the same contract price as the 156km railway line between Lagos and Ibadan.
In 2016, China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC), had signed a $2 billion agreement with the Nigerian government to build a 156 km railway line between Lagos and Ibadan.
A ground-breaking ceremony for the construction held in March 2017.

The Eastern Railway line, which links Accra, Tema and Kumasi, is expected to boost economic activities along the corridor, especially at the Boankra Inland Port after completion.

Joe Ghartey, Ghana’s minister of railway development, said the project is based on a build, operate and transfer (BOT) agreement.

GERC is expected to operate 24 passenger trains and six freight trains after completion of the 340-kilometre railway project.

The construction is expected to last for three years. The consortium has pledged to commence works in earnest.

There would be 6 main stations and 34 sub-stations along the double track corridor. The concession period is 27 years and the consortium hopes to recoup its investment within the period.

Ghartey recently visited Nigeria on the invitation of Rotimi Amaechi, Nigeria’s minister of transportation, inspect and assess the railway construction projects that the Chinese conglomerate has completed and that are currently being undertaken in Nigeria.

Will Nigeria’s economy gather momentum during the second half of 2019?

The news that Nigeria’s economy cooled down to 2.05% in the first quarter of 2019 compared to 2.38% in Q4’18 has left investors wondering about the chances of growth gathering momentum during the second half of the year.

On the one hand, it’s an encouraging sign we’ve seen the fastest first-quarter growth since 2015, driven mainly by the non-oil sector which grew 2.47%. On the other hand, the oil sector shrank by 2.4%, sending a worrying signal that the sector isn’t doing as well as it should be even amid rising oil prices.

It is becoming increasingly clear that economic growth is unlikely to reach the ambitious Economic Recover and Growth Plan (ERGP) target of seven percent but it may hit the Central Bank of Nigeria’s target of 2.47%.
For this to happen, the growth trend in the oil sector would need to rebound and the services sector would need to sustain its current strength. Added momentum could stem from oil prices should they hit a bullish streak going forward, supporting the economy as the oil trade still accounts for a handsome chunk of the nation’s foreign exchange earnings.

There are other potential areas of growth. Regionally there is a significant development which could increase economic efficiencies and trade within Africa – the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) which comes into effect on May 30. Although Nigeria hasn’t yet joined AfCFTA, there’s still a chance it will do so, once discussions are completed with stakeholders.
In addition to opening intra-Africa trade relations, the AfCFTA gives multi-national companies the chance to set up in one African country and be passported to another 52 countries within a common market made up of over one billion people.

Increased access to foreign expertise and investment could improve local manufacturing and processing systems while driving more growth and jobs creation. In the best-case scenario, standardised trading agreements across AfCFTA may open up trading channels which could lead to increased company sales, revenues and profits. Nigeria sells just 12.7 percent of its total exports to other African countries, so if the treaty is ratified there’s scope for increased government and company revenues from a boost in trade.

In general, there needs to be a stronger push in diversifying away from oil reliance to other sources of sustainable growth. An important part of sustainable growth is investment sentiment and the current economic stability along with easing inflationary pressures which may lead to a more dovish Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) monetary policy by way of interest rate cuts.

If so, a reduction in interest rates would stimulate borrowing and investment from local businesses, which in turn would support economic growth. A more robust economy plus foreign exchange reserves rising towards $45 billion would likely provide ammunition for the CBN to defend the Naira.

Another factor impacting on Nigeria’s recovery is the external threat of the US-China trade negotiations which could end up pressuring oil prices if the result is a global slowdown, meaning less demand for oil. The USD is staying strong amid the trade tensions and should they intensify further, they will hit emerging markets where it hurts – in their currency exchanges. This would undermine the Naira while pressuring consumer spending and on top of that, falling oil prices would likely dent government revenues.

Looking ahead, there is scope for Nigeria’s economy to gather momentum in the second half of the year, provided some key basics of growth are kept in focus: supportive monetary policy; keeping consumer spending healthy; sustaining investor confidence; and improving economic infrastructure, particularly in the oil sector. Even if the risks stemming from US-China trade disputes are out of Nigeria’s hands, shoring up the domestic economy could help it weather any storms.

The worst-case alternative is less attractive. If a global slowdown is triggered due to the trade tensions, economic growth in Nigeria may follow suit, meaning the CBN will face more difficult challenges to support the Naira and wider economy through monetary policy.

Sanwo-Olu Arrests A Danfo Driver Driving Through One-Way on Eko Bridge - Photos

While some governors are yet to resume for duty in their respective states, some are still basking in the euphoria of being in power but in Lagos, the man in charge has resumed work and he is not joking all...

We may likely be seeing an action governor at work if what feelers in the political terrain of Lagos are to be taken seriously by the way. It's no news that Lagos state has a new governor but what still remains news is the way the governor has demonstrated and take charge of situations within the last 24 hours.

Rounding off his inspection at Mile 2-Apapa road yesterday, the governor decided to pass through Eko Bridge where there was massive traffic on the other side but trust our dear danfos to always be in hurry, one was unfortunate that he passed the one-way when the governor's convoy was passing by. [Image: 5cf0db8a0f17d.jpg]

A 70-year-old man from Florida was arrested for allegedly impregnating a 13-year-old girl.

According to a Boca Raton police report, Renaud Jerome of Boca Raton was arrested on Friday after the girl showed up to a hospital complaining of pain symptoms associated with constipation. That's when doctors discovered she was 14 weeks pregnant.

The Miami Herald reports that the victim told police that Jerome “would touch her and have sex with her” and was the father of the child she is carrying.

Jerome, who only speaks Creole, admitted to police that he had consensual sex with the victim three times over the past couple of months.

“Jerome stated that within the last couple of months he has had consensual vaginal intercourse with [redacted] three times,” police said. “Jerome stated that [redacted] was interested in him more than he was interested in her and never forced her to do anything.”

Jerome is being held without bond at the Palm Beach County Jail and he’s required not to have any contact with the teen or anyone under 18.

The Nigeria Police have confirmed the arrest of a pastor for allegedly impregnating 20 members of his church in Enugu State.

Pastor Timothy Ngwu who is the General Overseer of the Vineyard Ministry of the Holy Trinity was arrested by officers of the Enugu State Police Command. According to reports by church members, Ngwu claimed that the Holy Spirit commanded him to impregnate as many female members of the church as possible.

Speaking on the incident, the Enugu state Police spokesperson, Ebere Amaraizu said the pastor had been charged for sexual abuse. Sources privy to the incident said Ngwu said the Holy spirit had given him the mandate to impregnate women in his ministry irrespective of their marital status.

The source also said that the child delivered by every woman impregnated by the pastor is expected to remain in the ministry with the mother for life. Trouble started for Ngwu after his wife reported his randy behaviour to the police after the pastor was alleged to have impregnated her (his wife’s) young niece all in the name of obeying a ‘divine instruction’.

Ngwu who is said to have five wives with 13 children along with other concubines said he never had carnal knowledge of the young girl.  He also said that he never had intercourse with any of the married women except their husbands concurred to the request of the ‘Holy Ghost’.

Daily Devotional for Friday 31st May

RHAPSODY OF REALITIES

FRIDAY, 31ST MAY.

LET JESUS BE ALL THAT MATTERS TO YOU

For even hereunto were ye called: because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that ye should follow his steps (1 Peter 2:21).

In everything, the Lord Jesus should be your role model. Emulate Him in all things. Make up your mind about this. Walk in love; walk in the Word of God, as He did when He walked the earth. Think like Him.

Talk like Him. Act like Him. Speak His words. Use His words. Speak His language. Make that decision.
Keep the thoughts of Jesus burning in your mind; think about Him. Meditate on His words, and talk about Him. Declare your love for Him and talk about it. Be quick to let others know how much you love Him in your promptness to do His Word. Be afire for Him. Stir the embers within you, so you have that fire all the time about Jesus Christ. Why is this so important?

It’s because, in heaven, nothing else matters, but Jesus. This is the One who gave His life for us; who died for us. He gave everything. He said, “Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends” (John 15:13). Give Him your mind; give Him your heart; give Him your attention. If you give Him your heart, your love, and your all, He’ll give you a fulfilment that you could never know otherwise.

Everything in the universe is about Jesus. He’s the embodiment of God’s love. God has expressed Himself and His love in and through Jesus. All that the Father is, and does, is wrapped around Jesus. This is the reason you must love Jesus with all your heart and give Him your all. Let your love and commitment to Him be revealed in your manner of life; your words, actions and decisions. Let Him be all that matters to you, and He’ll make your life, not just beautiful, but all that He’s destined it to be.

CONFESSION

I’m crucified with Christ, nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh, I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave Himself for me. My greatest desire is to be all that Christ wants me to be, living in accordance with His will and purpose for me. Amen.

FURTHER STUDY

John 13:15 For I have given you an example, that ye should do as I have done to you.

1 Corinthians 11:1 Be ye followers of me, even as I also am of Christ.

Ephesians 5:1-2 Be ye therefore followers of God, as dear children; 2 And walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us, and hath given himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweet smelling savour.

#TALKINGSESSION

31ST MAY.

KINDLY SAY THESE WORDS OUT LOUD.

Dear Father, I thank You for sending Jesus to the world, and bringing us the message of faith through Him. Faith is stirred in my heart even now, and I am strengthened in my spirit, and positioned for the life of endless victories and possibilities. I’ve overcome the world; I am more than a conqueror; Christ is glorified in, and revealed through me.

I thank You for the opportunity You’ve given me to demonstrate and witness the power of the resurrected Christ. As I lay my hands on the sick, healing virtue flows through me into the sick body, curing every ailment and vitalising every muscle, blood, cell and bone, in Jesus’ Name. Amen

God bless you

Eros Prime Keto And this substance secreted by the pancreas loves to send the energy it has processed into the body's fat reserves. “Good” carbohydrates include whole-grain bread, fruit, and some cereals. They can be eaten in small quantities, because they do not cause an insulin surge, and provide the body with enough energy it needs. The Motinjak diet includes two phases - the phase of weight loss and the phase of its stabilization. The first phase is more stringent, it lasts until the desired weight is reached. The second phase allows some relaxation; it will have to adhere to the rest of his life. The advantages of the Montana diet include the fact that it’s quite balanced, losing weight on it not so quickly, but quite true. Kilos dropped very rarely return to their seats. It has practically no disadvantages. The only thing that will have to be considered a supporter of Montana is that from now on they will have to think through every meal, avoiding forbidden combinations. Since Montana prohibits combining fats and carbohydrates between themselves, some dishes will have to be abandoned altogether. For example, from dumplings, cakes, pastries. But there are many other equally tasty dishes, so you can say that the Montana method is a good find for those who want to lose weight seriously and for a long time. Singer Madonna is a fan of all kinds of diets, because the slim figure requires special measures. One of her favorite diets is grapefruit, which pleases with an excellent result and a varied menu. Grapefruit is often found in diets. After all, he burns fat perfectly. The essence of the grapefruit diet of Madonna is the daily use of an exotic fruit, as well as a ban on food after seven in the evening. Diet is designed for a week. On the first day of the diet for breakfast, eat grapefruit or drink juice from it, buy low-fat yogurt, drink tea or coffee without sugar. For lunch, make cabbage salad, eat grapefruit, and drink tea. For dinner, prepare a green salad with lemon juice, drink tea with a spoon of honey.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) will on Friday, May 31, 2019, arraign the controversial official of the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Philomina Chieshe who claimed that the missing N35 million (Thirty Five Million Naira) JAMB proceeds in her custody was swallowed by a snake in Makurdi, Benue State JAMB office.

Chieshe will be arraigned alongside five others, namely: Samuel Umoru, Yakubu Jekada, Daniel Agbo, Priscilla Ogunsola, and Aliyu Yakubu before Justice Peter Afen of a Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court, Abuja.

Chieshe became notorious when she made an outlandish claim that a mysterious snake swallowed about N35million cash arising from sale of e-JAMB cards in the state.

The controversial JAMB official is being prosecuted by the EFCC on an eight-count charge, following her refusal to furnish the management of JAMB the true information on the financial status of JAMB e-cards supplied to the Benue Zonal office between 2014 and 2016. Chieshe’s action is contrary to Section 139 (a) of the Penal Code Law.

Lere Olayinka And Governor Fayemi Pose For A Selfie
User Avatar Forum: News
Posted by: Edoman - 05-31-2019, 04:34 AM - No Replies

Our Omoluabi governor plays politics without bitterness.

Lere Olayinka ,media aide to former governor Fayose was spotted with Governor Fayemi this morning at the Akure airport. In fact, he was on the same flight from Abuja with the Governor. Lere even took a selfie with the Governor.

Now, that's a civil,decent and accomodating leader.Lere said....

'Imagine yourself in the same flight with two Next Lefu Govs...

Na so the thing take happen to me today on my way to Akure from Abuja.

Just like that, myself, Fayemi, his wife that is called Erelu Bam Bam, Aketi, Senator Adetumbi and retinue of Fayemi's Aides in the same flight!

It was Erelu Bam Bam that saw me and said; "Are we sure we are safe in this flight?"

I responded: "Eyin le nse Next Lefu to nowhere (You people are the ones doing Next Level to nowhere). Me I'm going to Ekiti and I'm safe."

On getting to Akure, I was waiting for my luggage when Fayemi and his wife came and I greeted them.

Then Erelu fired the first shot again; "Lere you better come and join us, we will accommodate you."

Today was the second time she will say that. The first time was when she came to the government house for inspection few days to the handing over of power by Osokomole Ekun Oke.

Before I could respond; Fayemi said; "You don't know Lere, he started this journey with us then. 'Owo mi yi lo bi omo e si' (I was aware when he had his child then).

Fayemi and his wife left to join their NEXT LEFU to nowhere while I waited for my luggage.

These pictures represent what happened and like I told Fayemi's wife then, I'm in PDP, I'm with Osokomole, Ayodele Omo Fayose, I can't work with APC.

However, politics apart, I'm an Ekiti man, I see all Ekitis as my brothers and sisters. I only hope our friends in the APC have the same mindset'

Are you familiar with the saying ” Don’t throw stones when you live in a glass house”? Singer, Timi Dakolo might have just learned the value of that adage on social media today, after an Instagram user attacked him and his wife. Earlier on 30th May, 2019, an  Instagram user, by the name Elena Pipper,  came after Timi Dakolo  when he accused popular COZA pastor, Biodun Fatoyinbo of sexually molesting his members.

She stated that Timi Dakolo’s wife use to spend church money and date pastors while she was in Ilorin.  So basically he should remove the log from his eyes before he attempts to remove the speck in another person’s eyes.

In case you missed it, Nigerian Singer and father of three, Timi Dakolo outrightly called out the pastor of Commonwealth of Zion  Assembly (COZA), claiming that  he sexually abuses women in his Church and abroad.  In a series of message he posted online, Timi Dakolo revealed that the pastor and his atrocities are covered by some elders in the church.

This isn’t the first time that Pastor Biodun Fatoyinbo  has been involved in  a sex scandal. A former member by name of Ese Walter came out to expose herself about 5 years ago. According to her, after about 11 months of her attending the church the senior pastor (Biodun) sent for her. “I saw him at the end of the second service (they had two services at the time) and he said to me that he would like me to work with him.

I knew I had no intentions of becoming a pastor so I had to ask in what capacity. While there, he sat on a reclining chair and asked me to come sit on his laps. “He asked me to kiss him and all I could think about was seeing him preach on the pulpit back in COZA Abuja, Nigeria, which was my home church.

It felt as though my mind had paused. I am not saying I was jazzed, (although it’s possible I was in some trancelike state and didn’t know it but I just was so afraid that I couldn’t say or think otherwise.) That was the beginning of this affair.

Oyo State Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief Akin Oke, has described the dissolution of the Local Government Councils in the state by Gov. Seyi Makinde as dictatorial.

Makinde had on Tuesday ordered the dissolution of the councils via a statement signed by his chief of staff, Mr Bisi Ilaka, shortly after he took oath of office.
Oke said in a telephone interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that the action was “military-like”, saying that he was shocked by the development.

“My party, the APC will react officially soon, but I will speak to you as an individual for now.
“We are not in the military era, in the first instance, here is a man who swore to defend the Constitution, few hours later, acting with impunity, acting in military style dissolving democratic institutions like Local Government Councils.

“The House of Assembly has not been constituted and even the so called chief of staff who signed the statement on behalf of the governor has not been sworn-in.

“This development is a very bad signal, very bad signal for good people, with this administration, we are in for problems, real problems in the state”, he said.

Another leader of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, has called for the National Chairman of APC, Adams Oshiomhole, to step aside in the interest of the party.

A chieftain of the APC in Rivers state, Kingsley Wali, who is the latest to make this call, said Oshiomhole is responsible for the predicament the party suffered in different parts of the country in the build-up to the just-concluded general elections.
Wali, who is a lawyer, said that APC as a party should take a collective decision to ease out Oshiomhole to avert further damage to its fortunes.

He stated that the APC national chairman has been running a one-man show which is not in tandem with the vision of President Muhammadu Buhari.
“I have been consistent with my view that Adams Oshiomhole was 95 per cent responsible for the problems APC had. You have a man who believes that whatever he says is final and then turned a political party to a labour union.

“For me, if Oshiomhole is a responsible person which I doubt because I can tell you for free, Zamfara may not be the end of the story. There are a lot of cases in Court.

“The reasonable thing for APC as a party to do is to ask Oshiomhole to vacate his seat so that a new orientation can come in that will help the party move forward.

“If we insist on characterising the Next Level slogan of the APC, the attitude that Adams Oshiomhole exhibited cannot be in tandem with the present vision of Nigeria. The man was running a one-man show.
“In every decent political clime, once you lead a party and the party did not perform well you have to go. Let us not delude ourselves because we won the presidency, what about the governorship seats.

“What is in the public domain is that Adams Oshiomhole is hell-bent on making sure that Obaseki doesn’t come back, Yahaya Bello doesn’t come back, Akeredolu doesn’t come back, I don’t know his interest in Bayelsa state.

“In every democracy, the sitting President or the sitting Governor is given a right of first refusal. It will interest you to know that the Deputy National Chairman of APC, Senator Lawal Shuaibu had in a letter requested that the National Chairman of APC, Adams Oshiomhole should resign for leading the party to failure in the 2019 elections.”

Nigeria’s Senate President, Dr Bukola Saraki has finally lost appointment as Ambassador-at-large of the International Human Rights Commission (IHRC) for not meeting up with the necessary protocols demanded of the office.

In a letter issued and signed by head of the Nigerian Office, Dr. Friday Sani which was made available to DAILY POST in Abuja on Thursday, Dr Saraki was not forthcoming despite several meetings with officials of the International agency.
The letter further indicated that the lawmaker had been put on prior notice by the Nigerian Central Office and Africa of IHRC in which he was properly briefed, regretting that the withdrawal of nomination became necessary in line with the protocols of the agency.

Part of the letter reads: “In view of recent event towards perfection of the intended decoration and the overall interest of the organization in Africa and the world, we hereby withdraw your nomination as Ambassador-at-large.”
The letter added that the International Human Rights Commission’s World Secretary-General, Mr. Rafal Marcin Wasik has been informed of the development.
DAILY POST reports last week that Dr. Bukola Saraki was on the verge of losing the international appointment as Ambassador-at-large.

To lead a diplomatic mission as Ambassador-at-large of the IHRC, Saraki would have to be officially decorated by the Secretary-General of the agency, a development that has been elusive since the appointment in March, 2019.

Seven dead, 19 missing as tourist boat crashes and sinks in Budapest

Seven people have been confirmed dead and 19 are still missing after a sightseeing boat carrying 33 passengers and two crew crashed and sank in the Danube River in Budapest.

The boat, carrying tourists from Korea with two crews from Hungary, crashed and sank on Wednesday night after hitting another vessel.

Rescue officials said seven bodies had been recovered following the boat accident while a further seven people were rescued and are now being treated in hospital. One of the people rescued was found near the Petofi Bridge, which is about two miles south of Parliament.

The sunken boat, identified as the "Hableany" (Mermaid), was located early on Thursday near the Margit Bridge, not far from the neo-Gothic Parliament building on the river bank.

Employees from the South Korean Embassy in Budapest were assisting Hungarian officials in identifying those rescued and the deceased, Metro UK reports.

Mihaly Toth, a spokesman for the Panorama Deck boating company, said the "Hableany" was on a "routine city sightseeing trip" when the accident happened. He told state television that the boat was serviced regularly and he had no information about any technical problems with the boat.

South Korean president Moon Jae-in has instructed officials to employ "all available resources" to support the rescue efforts in Hungary.

Mr Moon’s spokeswoman Ko Min-jung said in Seoul that Mr Moon also ordered the launch of a government task force led by foreign minister Kang Kyung-wha to deal with the accident and maintain close communication with the family members of the South Korean passengers.

Muslim man fighting for life after hit-and-run outside Leicester mosque

A Muslim man is fighting for his life after an alleged hit and run outside a mosque in Leicester.

The man and a teenage boy were hit by a car just after Taraweeh, a prayer made during Ramadan. The boy escaped with injuries that are not life-threatening.

The Masjid At-Taqwa Leicester mosque said that one of its members was fighting for life after a vehicle rammed into him at 1am on Thursday morning.

They wrote on their Facebook page: "Last night after Taraweeh, one of the brothers who prayed with us was the victim of a hit and run just outside the masjid. He is fighting for his life, and we implore any one reading this post to ask Allah the Lord of The Worlds to grant him a full and speedy recovery, and to grant his family plentiful patience to get through this very difficult time. We remind you all to be very vigilant and to take care when leaving the masjid. May Allah protect us all."

Leicestershire police confirmed a man in his 40s and a teenage boy were struck by a vehicle on Humberstone Road but they said the incident isn't being treated as terror-related. Police said that early inquiries by officers led them to believe the vehicle did not deliberately drive at pedestrians.

They said: "We are in the early stages of our investigation and enquiries are continuing into the exact circumstances surrounding the incident. We can confirm we are not treating this as terrorist related and we would ask that people do not speculate while the incident remains under investigation."

Concerned Nigerian draws attention to the pathetic state of a community secondary school in Imo state (photos)

Attention has been drawn to the pathetic state of the Obizi Community secondary school in Ezinihite LGA, Imo state, Nigeria.

Students of the school are subjected to classes taught in dilapidated buildings or under trees. The buildings are in such a state of disrepair that when it rains, water gets into the classrooms.

To compound issues, the classrooms lack adequate furniture and some students are forced to stand while being taught.

The surroundings of the school are no better. Overgrown grasses can be seen creeping up the walls of the school building.

A staff of the institution who got in contact with LIB appealed for intervention from good-willed Nigerians. He revealed to LIB that there are no functioning libraries or classrooms. As a result, he said students are exposed to a number of risks including rape and abduction of students.

Appealing for help to rebuild the school up to standard, the staff told LIB: "We are appealing to good Nigerians to come and assist us rebuild this school and bring back standard education to the poor community."

Below are photos of the school.

Nigerians on an Arik Air flight from Port Harcourt to Lagos were taken aback and some began to plead the blood of Jesus after the Ooni of Ife boarded the plane with his diviner who was performing some sort of traditional rite.

Passengers were already seated when the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, and his aides walked in. His diviner was also present, dressed in an attire befitting of his position, and he held two instruments which he raised above his hand and shook vigorously to make a sound.

The diviner kept shaking the instrument until the Ooni sat down. He then put the instruments in a satchel hanging by his side and proceeded to his seat at the back of the plane.

Ethiopian Airlines, FAAN explain weather-induced mis-approach, say aircraft landed safely

ETHIOPIAN Airlines has said its pilot on Flight ET 901 encountered bad weather while trying to land at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) today causing him to make a go round before landing safely.

The airline reacting to the incident that widely reported that former President Olusegun Obasanjo and 392 passengers including Director of Ports Inspection, National Agency For Food And Drug Administration And Control (NAFDAC), Prof Samson Tunde Adebayo, Director General of Nigerian Association of Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (NACCIMA) Ambassador Ayoola Olukanni were reportedly on board the aircraft.

A statement signed by General manager, Ethiopian Airlines in Nigeria, Firihiewot Mekonnen read: “Ethiopian Flight (ET 901/29 MAY) which departed from Addis Ababa on its way to Lagos had encountered bad weather during landing and made a go-around the airport for better and smooth landing, according to the procedure.

“On a second attempt, it made a safe and normal landing. According to safety standard, pilots are encouraged to make a similar go-around in such cases.

However; some media incorrectly reported this standard safety precautionary go-around.

The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) confirming the incident said the flight, which tried to land at about 1157hours had earlier mis-approached due to bad weather and immediately went up to position properly for landing.

The airport authority stated that the aircraft landed safely at exactly 1213hours and parked at gate E63.
FAAN also confirmed that the Ethiopian flight had departed Lagos for Addis Ababa at 1351hours.

The Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, has completely locked down the capital city of Biafra, Enugu, Anambra and Asaba in honour of its war heroes.

IPOB had declared a sit-at-home to honour its men who died in the Nigeria-Biafra war from 1967-1970.

The government through the Police has however warned the group against the planned action.

Nigerians Got Poorer In Buhari’s First Term — The Economist
User Avatar Forum: General Discussion
Posted by: Edoman - 05-30-2019, 04:40 PM - No Replies

Quote:Long lines of lorries stretch like tentacles from Apapa port, the largest in Nigeria. Drivers doze in their cabs, feet flung over dashboards; some sling hammocks beneath the chassis. Musa Ibrahim, an ebullient trader, says he has been queuing for two days. He gestures at empty buildings. “Most of the companies you see here they done close,” he sighs, writes The Economist.

The Nigerian economy is stuck like a stranded truck. Average incomes have been falling for four years; the IMF thinks they will not rise for at least another six. The latest figures put unemployment at 23%, after growing for 15 consecutive quarters. Inflation is 11%. Some 94 million people live on less than $1.90 a day, more than in any other country, and the number is swelling. By 2030 a quarter of very poor people will be Nigerians, predicts the World Data Lab, which counts such things.

Nigeria’s engine was already sputtering when President Muhammadu Buhari took the wheel in 2015. The price of oil, which makes up 9% of GDP and more than 90% of export earnings, had crashed. But “Baba Go Slow”, as Nigerians took to calling him, made a bad situation worse. Instead of letting Nigeria’s currency slide, which would have stoked inflation, policymakers rationed dollars to maintain the naira’s long-standing and artificially high peg to the dollar. To do so the central bank refused to release foreign currency for a long list of imports, ranging from toothpicks to shovels. Without dollars for equipment or supplies, factories closed and workers were laid off, leading to a recession in 2016.

The central bank confused things further by introducing several exchange rates. One was an official rate of 305 naira per dollar. Its main use seemed to be to allow the bank to brag about how strong the currency was since it sold almost no dollars at that absurd rate. Its second rate was used to funnel artificially cheap dollars (about 320 naira each) to favoured importers. Naturally, there were not enough of these dollars to go around, so most Nigerians (especially those buying toothpicks) had to pay as much as 500 naira on the black market. The gap between most of these rates has converged of late at about 360. But having so many rates puts off investors.

The government thinks the answer to the “dollar shortage” is for Nigerians to make and grow more and import less. To this end, it has slapped import taxes on rice and fertiliser and is giving tax breaks for a huge new oil refinery.

There is little sign of the kind of export-led industrial revolution that has lifted incomes in Asia. This is not only because the naira is overvalued. It is also because the state has spent decades neglecting basic public goods, like roads, schools and electricity. “In Nigeria if you set up a business you have to build your infrastructure, you have to build your power plant, you have to build everything,” says Abdul Samad Rabiu, the chairman of the BUA Group, a conglomerate. Eghosa Omoigui, who manages a tech fund, compares running a business there to “running a nation state”.

Where urgency is needed, Mr. Buhari offers only caution. Few are holding their breath for any more drive in his second term, which began on May 29th. “We are trying to avoid shocks,” explains Adeyemi Dipeolu, his economic adviser: sharp currency movements or hikes in electricity tariffs would be felt by ordinary Nigerians. Yet officials are postponing a crisis, not averting one. Consider borrowing. The debt-to-GDP ratio is 28%. But Nigeria collects so little in tax that interest payments swallow about 60% of federal revenues.

“We don’t have a debt problem, we have a revenue problem,” insists Udoma Udo Udoma, budget minister in Mr. Buhari’s first term. The government plans to raise funds by selling off some of its share in joint-venture contracts with oil companies and might hike taxes on luxury goods. Revenues are rising, but fall far short of budget targets. Some of the gap is probably being filled by running up an overdraft with the central bank, which now holds more assets than the entire banking system.

Public finances would be healthier if the government raised the price of fuel, which is imported by the state oil company and sold on at a loss. Last year this subsidy was worth at least 0.5% of GDP—as much as the government spent on health care. Politicians are scared to end the subsidy. An attempt to do so in 2012 led to massive protests. Although the government has expanded school-feeding programmes and is working on a safety net for the poor, most citizens get few benefits from the state. Oxfam, a charity, ranks 157 countries on their commitment to reducing inequality, based on social spending, taxes and labour laws: Nigeria comes last.

For Nigeria to prosper, the state could harness the vim of its 200m citizens. Instead it ignores them, except when politicians need votes. People have come to expect nothing from government, says Chika Okeke, who owns a small stationery shop in Lagos: “you struggle yourself.”

BREAKING: Appeal Court affirms Adeleke’s Eligibility For Governorship Election
Thursday, May 30, 2019  politics

Ade Adesomoju, Abuja

The Court of Appeal in Abuja on Thursday ruled that Senator Ademola Adeleke was qualified to contest the September 2018 governorship election.

A three-man panel of the court made the pronouncement in a unanimous judgment which upheld the appeals by Adeleke and his party, the Peoples Democratic Party.

Justice Emmnuel Agim, who read the lead judgment of the Court of Appeal, awarded the cost of N3m against the plaintiffs who instituted the suit before the FCT High Court — Wahab Raheem and Adam Habeeb — who were respondents to the appeals filed by Adeleke and the PDP.

Adeleke’s and PDP’s appeals had challenged the April 2, 2019 judgment of the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, which had declared Adeleke ineligible to contest the election on the grounds that he forged his secondary school credentials submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission in 2018.

Justice Othman Musa of the FCT High Court had also declared Adeleke a dropout of the Ede Muslim Grammar School in Ede, Osun State, and thus was not qualified under Section 177(d) of the Constitution to contest last year’s governorship election in Osun State.

But, upturning the judgment on Thursday, Justice Emmanuel Agim, who delivered the lead judgment of the Court of Appeal, held that the suit, having not been filed within 14 days after Adeleke’s Form CF001 was submitted to INEC or 14 days after his name was published as a candidate in the September 2018 election, the suit filed before the FCT High Court, by virtue of Section 285 of the Constitution, had become statute-barred.

Justice Agim also held that the failure of the FCT High Court to deliver its verdict within 60 days of the filing of the suit had rendered the lower court’s judgment a nullity.

But the Court of Appeal also held the affidavit evidence of the West African Examination Council and result ledger attached to it showing that Adeleke was not a dropout but actually sat the May 1981 examination of the body at Muslim Grammar School, Ede.

Justice Agim held that by virtue of Section 177 of the Constitution, by merely writing the examination and without passing any paper, Adeleke was qualified to contest the governorship election

Photos: Woman stages her own kidnap to extort money from her relatives so she can send herself and boyfriend abroad

The Nigeria Police Force have arrested 36-year-old mother of three, Chizoba Ogbonna, pictured above, for allegedly masterminding her kidnapping.

Chizoba who is a graduate of the Alvan Ikoku Federal College of Education, Owerri, Imo State, was arrested with two others, Uche Anthony and Joseph Ezema, who allegedly assisted her to mastermind her kidnap, as well as negotiate for a ransom. A relative of hers had reported to the police that she was kidnapped and that her abductors were demanding for N2 million ransom.
The Inspector General of Police Special Intelligence Response Team (IRT), headed by the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Abba Kyari, swung into action and after much investigation, trailed Ogbonna and her kidnappers to an uncompleted building at Agborji community in Abriba-Ohafia area of the state with the intention of rescuing her and arresting her kidnappers. They were however left in shock when they arrived the hideout and discovered that Ogbonna was having an affair with one of her supposed kidnappers, John Ezema, and her abduction was staged to extort money from her relatives, which she intended using to travel out of the country with her boyfriend.

Speaking after her arrest, Ogbonna said

Quote:''I am a primary school teacher. I was formerly married and had three children for my ex-husband but I don't love him It was as if he charmed me.  I pulled out of the marriage when I realised that I had been hypnotised. In 2018, I met Joseph on Facebook and he told me he is a fashion designer. Later I told him that I have some jobs for him and from that point we started a relationship. At one point in our relationship, we discussed travelling out of the country and he told me that he had once spent about N300,000 for a visa and it didn’t work out for him. So, on March 13, I was on my way to visit my sister and a vehicle stopped in front of me. I saw six persons in it and a woman inside the vehicle called me and when I responded, she asked me to enter the vehicle. At that point I lost control of myself. She asked me to enter the vehicle and I obeyed her.
“I later found myself in the home of my boyfriend at Agborji. My boyfriend took my phone, called my sister and demanded ransom. When my sister spoke with me, I begged her to pay the ransom my boyfriend was demanding. I then sent my account number to my sister and she paid N500,000 into the account. Two days after the money was paid, the police came and arrested me and my boyfriend.”

Her boyfriend however denied claims that he hypnotised her. John said it was Ogbonna that actually plotted her kidnap with him and other suspects.
Quote:“I have just a secondary school leaving certificate. I’m not married and I don’t have children. I was arrested because I faked the kidnap of my girlfriend. I met her sometime in April 2018, she is one of my friends on Facebook and she was always commenting on my photos. We started chatting, then we started dating. She told me that she was a divorcee and that her husband used to beat her and he wasn’t allowing her to have friends and there was a day the man came home with another woman and everything became complicated for her. Then she decided to move out of her husband’s home.
“She said she rented an apartment and lived there with one of her children. So, when we started dating, I visited her house with one of my friends, Anthony and I told her that I was planning to travel out of the country. She said she wanted to travel with me, but I told her that I didn’t have such money.
“So, she told me that she would want me to kidnap her and demand ransom from her sister. That we would use the money to travel out of the country.  We then travelled to my town, Abriba and she came with a blue phone with two sim cards.
“Two days later, she covered her phone with a cloth and called her sister, pretending to be a kidnapper. She later told her sister that she had been kidnapped and she demanded ransom.  Later, she got scared and thought her sister would recognise her voice. Then my friend, Anthony, took over the phone and started negotiating with her sister. After two weeks of negotiation, her family paid N300,000 into her account.
“On the day we were arrested, her family paid an additional N200,000 into her account and they said that was all they could afford. She gave me N100,000 as my share, but the police came and arrested me. I told the police that I am not a kidnapper and that it was my girlfriend who lured me into the act.” he said

Alex Rodriguez shared a beautiful video of him and his fiancee Jennifer Lopez having a great time with her ex-husband Marc Anthony.

It isn't everyday you see exes being friendly with each other but what's even harder to find is a man being close to his woman's ex. But A-Rod, J.Lo and Marc Anthony have proven that exes and current partners can get along for the sake of the kids.

In the beautiful video, A-Rod is seen sandwiched between J.Lo and Marc Anthony as they attended a school recital where J.Lo and Marc Anthony's son, Max performed. During the mini concert, the three celebrities were filmed lip synching to "I Will Always Love You".  J.Lo and Marc Anthony, who are professionals, sang heartily but A-Rod, who couldn't sing, just sat watching them and filming.

"Those who can, do. Those who can't, sit between two people that can and stay quiet! #imnotasinger," A-Rod wrote as he shared the video.

This isn't the first time the three parents have come together for their kid's performances. All three have been close for years and are known to hang out together with their kids.

BREAKING: Appeal Court Sacks PDP Senator-elect

The Court of Appeal, Abuja Division, has nullified the emergence of Ned Nwoko as the senator representing Delta North Senatorial District.

The court in a decision on Thursday said the case instituted at the Abuja Division of the Federal High Court which resulted in the recognition of Mr Nwoko as the winner of the election by the Independent National Electoral Commission was wrongly filed.
The appellate court ruled that the matter ought to have been brought at the lower court before the expiration of 14 days from the time of the incidence that birthed the suit.
It further ruled that the failure of the applicant at the lower court to file the case before the expiration of 14 days meant that the case had become statute barred and the lower court lacked jurisdiction to entertain the matter in the first place.

“As at the time the matter was instituted at the Federal High Court, the case was statute barred. We set aside the decision of the Federal High Court and strike out the case,” the court ruled.
INEC had withdrawn the certificate of return it issued to Mr Nwoko’s contender Peter Nwaoboshi, following the FHC decision.

With the appeal court decision, Mr Nwaoboshi will now be recognised as the senator-elect for the district.
Messrs Nwoko and Nwaoboshi are both of the PDP and had contested for the ticket of the party in the primaries. The PDP later won the senatorial election in the district with Mr Nwaoboshi as its candidate.
After the initial high court ruling, INEC withdrew the certificate issued to Mr Nwaoboshi and presented same to Mr Nwoko; a decision that would now be reversed based on the appeal court ruling.

. Says ‘we ‘ll defend the trust Nigerians reposed on us’

Quote:Juliana Taiwo-Obalonye, Abuja

Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo, has assured Nigerians that he and his principal, President Muhammadu Buhari, will defend the trust Nigerians reposed on them as they begin their second term in office.

Osinbajo said this at the inauguration dinner/gala night, as President Muhammadu Buhari jets out to Saudi Arabia for the OIC summit on Thursday.

He declared that Nigerians’ best days had just begun as the next level administration kicked off.

Osinbajo said: “We will defend the trust Nigerians reposed on us.

“The best years of Nigeria begins today.”

According to Osinbajo, between 12 midnight on Tuesday and 10:30am on Wednesday, there were no president and vice president, and commended the Senate President, Dr Bukola Saraki, for not taking advantage and trying anything funny.

The Vice President said: “From 12 last night to 10:30am, there was virtually no president and vice president. We were happy that there was no problem.

“I will like to thank Mr. Senate President for not doing anything funny.”

Meanwhile, guests had herculean task accessing the venue of the dinner as the traffic into the Presidential Villa both from Gate One which is accessed through the Asokoro axis and Gate Two, accessed through the Supreme Court was at a snail speed.

Invited guests including diplomats who  managed to get to the Banquet Hall, were pushed and shoved, as they were told the hall was full to capacity and could not accommodate them.

Osinbajo attended the gala in with his wife, Dolapo, along with Boss Mustapha, the Secretary of the Government of the Federation.

The gala night was attended by former Head of State, Yakubu Gowon.

Also in attendance was the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Adams Oshiomhole, who gave the toast.

He said those who thought Nigeria would be insurmountable were now having a rethink.

He said no matter the challenges the nation might be going through, the sum total is that Nigeria is bigger than her problems.

Quote:NextTv, a new media and entertainment platform, is set to challenge the monopoly enjoyed by South Africa’s Multichoice Digital Satellite TV’s (DStv) monopoly in Nigeria’s payTV market. The platform, a joint venture partnership between Nigus International, Nigerian Communications Satellite Limited (NIGCOMSAT) and China Great Wall Industry Corporation (CGWIC) pledged to make satellite television affordable with quality service delivery.

Under the new arrangement, Nigus International will be the lead partner holding a 75 percent equity stake, while NigComSat holds 15 percent equity and CGWIC holding 10 percent equity stake.

The Minister of Communication, Adebayo Shittu, while speaking at the launch of the satellite service provider to the NigComSat Direct-To-Home (DTH) platform in Abuja, urged Nigerians to patronise and invest in the company. ADVERTISEMENT He said the partnership within the next few years would produce about 1.5 million set-up boxes and in doing that many more Nigerians will get jobs.

He assured management of the satellite television of government’s support to ensure that the new partnership makes huge entry into the market. Executive Chairman of NextTV, Mr. Malik Ado-Ibrahim, said, “We have flexibility from the market giving us tremendous opening to reach large number of people.

So we are very comfortable that Nigerians and Africa in general would be able to access our service and get quality entertainment contents. “NexTV is not just about entertainment but satellite communication, broadband connectivity and accessing digital content through different platform across Africa.

That is why we launched the OGT service and i think that is where we are going to be successful.

Ambode’s SSG: Lagos Witnessed Worst Administration Under Ambode
User Avatar Forum: General Discussion
Posted by: Edoman - 05-30-2019, 10:21 AM - No Replies

Quote:By Sodiq Oyeleke

Mr. Tunji Bello, the immediate past Secretary to Government of Lagos State, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode’s government on the scale and concluded that its operation was the worst since the administration of the first civilian governor of the state, Lateef Jakande, in the second republic.

Bello argued that Ambode’s administration lacked inability to apply enough emotional intelligence in the administration of the state.

In a statement entitled ‘Time to say good bye to colleagues on this platform,’ personally signed by him and issued to reporters, the ex-SSG said: “The exit bell has sounded and it is time to say goodbye to colleagues. We must seriously thank our Governor, Mr Akinwunmi Ambode for bringing all of us together in the last four years.

“We must praise him for the successful strides in bringing Lagos to the present level. All the accomplishments and success stories of this administration should go to him.

“We should be happy too because we are directly or indirectly part of that success stories being his lieutenants. We should be happy for the opportunity provided and experience gained. It is not what you can buy on the shelf even if you have all the money. We should also be happy and thankful to God for seeing us to the end.

“Yet as we depart on our individual sojourn, we must never forget to learn from our glaring weaknesses and failures. Since we are all part of the success stories we must also share in the weaknesses and failures.

“Our main drawback is our government’s inability to apply enough emotional intelligence in the administration of the state. Emotional intelligence includes interpersonal skills, interpersonal relationship, humility, respect for the well established mores of governance, disregard for the accomplishments of others. The belief that our way is the best without considering other options in a democratic setting, absence of wider consultations, distance from the governed, lack of effective communication skill or amateurish display of government acts and political immaturity, deliberate and open alienation of others.

“We undertook gigantic projects without the soul. We were too self opinionated and narrow in our approach to governance.

“It is a big drawback which prevented the administration from returning because it was punished for its lack of inclusiveness in a democratic setting. In leadership, emotional intelligence is 70 per cent of application while individual brilliance is only 30 percent. Successful leaderships across the world in history have thrived on this fact.

“Besides, and apart from lack of enough camaraderie compare to previous administrations, our cabinet has been less rigorous, less fulfilled, less engaged and less accomplished. And for the first time since the time of Governor Lateef Jakande, this cabinet departs unappreciated and disenchanted.

“But dear colleagues, irrespective of all the setbacks and disappointments, let us thank God Almighty for his mercies and benevolence and we leave with strongest belief that tomorrow belongs to HIM.”

Mum kills herself after her ex-boyfriend shared her sex tape at work

A woman took her own life after her jealous ex-boyfriend released a sex tape they made when they were dating.

Mum-of-two, Veronica Rubio, 32, was found hanged in her home in the town of Alcala de Henares, near Madrid, after her ex-boyfriend shared the revenge porn to get back at her.

Veronica Rubio dated the unnamed ex-boyfriend in 2014. She later moved on, got married to another man, and had two young children.

But the ex-boyfriend, who she worked with at the Iveco owned CNH Industrial lorry factory in San Fernando de Henares, Spain, was apparently hurt after she rejected him. He then leaked the X-rated video and it was circulated online and even at Ms Rubio's workplace.

Ms Rubio‘s colleague told local media: "She got very nervous and had to leave the factory because she could not stand the pressure, not only here but also in her family.‘She only wanted the story to move on, for people to stop talking as soon as possible. She did not think about reporting it."

When the scandal would not die down, Ms Rubio was said to have apologised to her husband then she committed suicide. She leaves behind a 4-year-old child and a 9-month old baby.

Reacting to her death, CNH Industrial said it was aware of her situation and had offered her help. A spokesperson added they had followed protocol and offered Mrs Rubio a different role and sick leave, which she apparently rejected.

But a union at the factory disputed this and they are reportedly planning to sue the company for not activating the sexual harassment protocol. The factory workers also organised a protest at work over the death of Ms Rubio.

The Spanish Penal Code punishes those who leak a video without the permission of the person in it with a prison sentence between three months to one year if it affects their personal privacy. Police confirmed they were investigating and said no report had been made about the sex tape.

Dad who made his children have sex with him, his wife, ex-wife and dog gets sentenced to 341 years in jail

A father who spent 12 years forcing his children to have sex with him, his wife, ex-wife and the family dog has been sentenced to 341 years in jail.

Christopher Sena, 52, was sentenced on Tuesday after he sexually abused eight immediate family members and close relatives, then filmed the abuse.

Sena, of Las Vegas, made his victims, who were both male and female, have sex with him, their mother and stepmother while being filmed.

Sena was convicted of 95 sex crimes.

The abuse which went on for over a decade was finally uncovered in September 2014 during a SWAT raid at Sena’s trailer in Nellis Air Force Base. Officials obtained video footage of the sex attacks.

While Sena was handed 60 life terms on Tuesday, Sena's estranged wife Deborah Sena, 53, and his first ex-wife Terrie Sena, 48, were handed life sentences before Tuesday’s hearing. Both women took plea deals which saw them handed a single life sentence for allowing the abuse to happen, and will be eligible for parole in 10 years.

Dad kills daughter, 5, then burns her body in the oven

A father has been arrested on suspicion of killing his 5-year-old daughter by throwing her into a fire.

Pavel Makarchuk, 50, allegedly hit his daughter Darina, causing her to fall to the floor and hit her head. He then allegedly decided to hide his crime by chopping the girl's body and burning her in the oven, police in Ukraine said.

Regional police commander in Zhytomyr, Artem Lisogor, said: "The father pushed or hit the girl. The child fell down and crashed her head against the threshold. The girl passed out and did not recover. The father decided to hide this crime, so the child was put inside the stove and burned.''

Makarchuk’s wife, 41, has also been arrested on suspicion of being an accessory to murder.

A murder investigation has now been launched, nine months after the girl was killed.

When police arrived at their home, the couple allegedly dressed their son, 3, in girl’s clothes to make it seem that Darina was still alive. Darina had been living with a foster family for at least two years and was only given back to her biological parents three months before she was killed, Metro UK reports. Police said the parents, who have three other children, "confessed" to the attempt to cover-up Darina’s death and admitted she had been thrown into the stove.

The child's mother told police that after shoving the child, her husband had tried to give the girl "artificial respiration" but she did not respond. He then lit a fire in the stove and "carried her charred remains to the river", where they still have not been located.

The child's mother

The child's foster mother Natalya Kobernik had argued that Darina would not be properly cared for after social activists successfully campaigned for the child to be returned to her natural family. But her concerns were ignored and the child was returned to her biological parents. Natalya accused the authorities of placing the child in a family where she was at risk of abuse.

Makarchuk faces up to 15 years in jail if he is convicted of murder. His other children have now been taken into care.

Daily Devotional for Thursday 30th May
User Avatar Forum: Daily Devotions

RHAPSODY OF REALITIES

THURSDAY, 30TH MAY.

HE GAVE YOU EVERYTHING.

…all things are yours (1 Corinthians 3:21).

O, the blessedness of Jesus Christ, and all that He accomplished for us! He died for us, that we may have life. He was buried for us, and God raised Him from the dead, and we were raised together with Him (Read Romans 6:3-4). Now, He’s seated in God’s heaven, in the place of power, and we’re seated together with Him. However, we’re here in the earth, but our authority comes from heaven!

Thus, today, the implication of our position in Him is that we use His Name, we have His Name, and we live in His Name. His Name has exactly the same power that He has as a person. His Name represents everything that He is.

Christians who don’t understand this are the ones who pray, “O God! Please help me with this or that; give me this or give me that.” Praying like that is a waste of time, and it’s somewhat insulting to God, because He gave you His Name, and you’re a joint-heir with Him; meaning you own the world with Him.

According to the Scriptures, and as we read in our theme verse, He gave you everything. But if you’re looking at circumstances, and thinking like a man, you’ll be thinking of how to pray in such a way that He’ll be “convinced” to grant whatever it is you’re asking for. How much more can you convince someone to give you anything who already gave you everything, including the Kingdom?

He said in Luke 12:32, “Fear not, little flock; for it is your Father’s good pleasure to give you the kingdom” ; and He’s done it! Today, we’re supposed to be functioning for Him, acting in His stead. We’re His ambassadors, praying for others; making good things happen for others. He gave you His life. He gave you His Name. He gave you His wealth. He gave you His seat in heaven. What more do you want?

Take your place of dominion, reigning and ruling with Him. He’s a King, and He raises kings! He doesn’t want you crawling, and begging Him; that’s why He made all things yours.

CONFESSION

I’m what God says I am; I have all He says I have; and I can do all things in His Name. All things are possible to me, because I believe. I’m rich in all things, because I’m a joint-heir with Christ! Praise God!

FURTHER STUDY:

Hebrews 11:6 But without faith [it is] impossible to please [him]: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and [that] he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.

Romans 8:32 He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things?

2 Peter 1:3 According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that [pertain] unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue:

#TALKINGSESSION

30TH MAY.

KINDLY SAY THESE WORDS OUT LOUD.

Dear Father, thank You for filling my life with Your joy. I declare that the joy of the Lord is my strength, and that joy saturates my spirit and bursts forth in refreshing streams to my world. I rejoice always in the Lord my God, who has filled my heart with gladness, and my mouth with songs of rejoicing.

I live in absolute victory over sickness, disease, and poverty today and always! I am the workmanship of God, created in Christ Jesus unto good works. No weapon of darkness fashioned against me shall ever prosper, because I live in the Name of Jesus! I've been delivered from the destruction that ruins men's life and catapulted into God’s realm of life where I reign victoriously with Christ, every day, in Jesus’ Name.Amen

God bless you

Family Of 6 Killed In Plateau By Unknown Gunmen (Disturbing Photos)

On Monday, 27th May 2019, the community of Ganawuri in Plateau State came under attack from yet to be identified gunmen

The gunmen arrived Dangwal Village of Ganawuri District in Riyom Local Government Area at about 8pm on Monday and headed straight to Lo-Gwong Du family house where they murdered 6 members of the family.

One of the family members, Lyop Gideon, a 25 year- old mother of 1 and survivor of the attack said she was avoided by the attackers because she pretended to be dead.

During the attack, Lyop’s baby also survived the attack as the attackers decided to spare the baby's life who at the time was in her  grandmother's arm. The grandmother was however killed.

Lyop's husband, Gideon Gyang, his two parents, two siblings and a cousin were all killed in the attack.

Speaking to a reporter in Jos, the surviving mother said:

"I laid flat on the ground as they opened fire, killing everyone.
"My baby yelled from my dead mother in-law's arms but she was unhurt," Mrs. Gideon said.

According to her, the family was having dinner together when the armed men attacked.

She said, "My husband was in our room few meters away from my father in-law's room where seven of us were eating.

"They shot him first, and my terrified mother in-law started screaming.

"As my husband was groaning and my mother in-law screaming, they came into the room where we were.

"One of them tried to say something in Berom language but wasn't so fluent.

"He spoke also in Fulfulde saying 'Hurut mu hilleh' after opening fire in the room but I don't think that language was standard too."

Nigerian politicians must entrench peace, welfare and improved standard of living for all our people” - Bukola Saraki

Outgoing president of the Senate, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki has congratulated Nigerians on the country’s attainment of 20 years of uninterrupted democracy and urged the people to use democracy to institutionalize peace and genuine development.

Saraki in a statement signed by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Yusuph Olaniyonu, described the commemoration of 20 years of democracy as a thing of joy in view of the many positive developments the country has witnessed since May 29, 1999.

He advised Nigerians to fully take ownership of democracy and its institutions and use them to “entrench peace, welfare and improved standard of living for all our people.” He said democracy is about the people and. the people should use democracy to achieve social justice, equity, inclusiveness and economic self-reliance.

While urging the followers to hold their leaders accountable and ensure they always act in the best interest of the people and country, he also urged the people to be good followers and be law abiding at all times.

“We should avoid conflicts and blood letting as no country can develop in the midst of chaos. We should all steer clear of issues, comments and situations that emphasise our fault lines. He called on all newly-elected leaders who are to be sworn-in on Wednesday to work for the development of the country and the continuous preservation of the nation’s democracy.

He noted that the benefits of a constitutional democracy far outweigh the challenges that have confronted the country since the return of democracy. Saraki said: “It is a thing of absolute joy and national pride that we are today celebrating two decades of sustained democratic governance in the country.

Quote:“It is my hope that every Nigerian will look back at how far we have come in the last 20 years and resolve to continue to preserve our democracy?—?not minding the observed lapses in the operation of the system.
“We should continue to strive to preserve the present form of democratic governance because democracy still remains the best system of government.
“We have a duty to translate this dream into measurable realities in terms of the security and welfare of the people as well as the socio-economic and political advancement of the country.

“I believe that all our newly sworn-in leaders are fully abreast of the present realities and therefore would spare no effort in working to turn the country around for the better,” Saraki stated.

So many activities headline the second term swearing-in ceremony of President Muhammadu Buhari but one of the other silent things is a new Mercedes Benz car unveiled by the President today.
The 2019 Mercedes-Benz S-Class S 560 was part of the fleet of cars that brought the President to the Eagles Square for the swearing-in ceremony.
Buhari, in company of his wife, Aisha Buhari, were occupants of the new 2019 S560 Benz.
Checks by SaharaReporters reveal that the 2019 Mercedes-Benz S-Class S 560 was specially designed for the president.

However, the 2019 Mercedes-Benz S-Class S 560(Maybach) is being sold at $170,000. It is equivalent to N61,200,000 when converted to Nigerian naira at the rate of N360 per dollar.

The car has special features like Active Parking Assist, Multicontour Front Seats w/Massage Feature, Surround View Camera, Active Lane Change Assist, and Traction control.

The unveiling of the N61m car acquired by President Buhari is coming less than 24 hours after he submitted his asset declaration form at the Code of Conduct Bureau.

The Presidency had said the forms signed by the President and sworn to before a Judge of Abuja High Court, showed no significant changes in assets as declared in 2015 by him.

“There are no new houses, no new bank accounts at home and abroad and there are no new shares acquired,” Garba Shehu, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity said.

In 2015, Shehu listed 270 cows, 25 sheep, five horses, birds and economic trees, five houses in Kaduna, Daura, Kano and Abuja, a plot of land each in Port Harcourt and Kano; farms, an orchard, and some cars while he owned a mud house in Daura, as Buhari’s assets

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission on Tuesday arraigned five oil marketers for allegedly stealing petroleum products worth N1bn belonging to the United Bank for Africa.

Thompson Omoietan, Adeleke Lasun, Funmilola Oyerinde, Adegoke Shadrack and James Amore were arraigned on three counts of conspiracy, stealing and forgery.

However, they pleaded not guilty to the charges before a Lagos State High Court in Ikeja.

According to counsel for the  EFCC, Kayode Oni, the defendants committed the offences in September 2011 alongside 13 others currently at large.

Some of the suspects at large are Ngozi Okoye,  Cynthia Gboneme, Onyebuchi Patience, Godwin Onyeke and Moses Ojera.

Others are Umanah Bassey, Onwuka Ibisi, Hyginus Nwosu, Solomon Okpithe, Gbolade Otukoya and Godwin Omoke.

According to the prosecutor, the offences contravene sections 278, 285, 359, 363 and 409 of the Criminal Code Law of Lagos 2011.

The anti-graft agency alleged that the defendants and their accomplices forged documents titled, “Supervisory Discharge Certificate” addressed to the Managing Director of Menol Oil and Gas Limited.

Following the plea of the defendants, their lawyers, Yinka Farounbi and   A.O Akinyemi urged the court to grant their clients bail on the most liberal terms.

Buhari Ends FirstTerm Violating Nigeria's Procurement Law

President Muhammadu Buhari has failed to constitute the National Council on Public Procurement, in violation of a federal law.[Image: President-Muhammadu-Buhari.jpg]
President Muhammadu Buhari, who has ended his first term in office, has failed to constitute the National Council on Public Procurement, in violation of a federal law.

The Public Procurement Act 2007 places a duty on the president to constitute the NCPP, which, as the law stipulates, is responsible for government procurement matters, including approval of contracts. It also acts as a control board for the Bureau of Public Procurement (BPP).

However, Mr Buhari, despite repeated promises to the contrary, has continued to lead the Federal Executive Council to usurp the powers of the NCPP.

Mr Buhari’s disregard for the law follows the paths set by his predecessors – late President Umaru Yar’Adua and former President Goodluck Jonathan.

The Public Procurement Act was signed into law by Mr Yar’Adua on June 4, 2007, to allow transparency and ensure public participation in government procurement.

Activists say not complying with the terms of the law with regards to the NCPP as well as continuing to lead the FEC to approve contracts mocks Mr Buhari’s much vaunted anti-corruption commitment.

Repeated promises

In the campaigns ahead of the 2015 presidential poll, Mr Buhari, through his campaign, promised Nigerians he would constitute the NCPP if elected.

The promise was contained in a document titled, “My covenant with Nigerians”.

In that campaign material, the then candidate said he was going to “inaugurate the National Council on Procurement as stipulated in the Procurement Act so that the Federal Executive Council, which has been turned to a weekly session of contract bazaar, will concentrate on its principal function of policymaking.”

Although the president, after assuming office disowned the document containing other promises such as full disclosure of assets and liabilities, a PREMIUM TIMES fact-check showed the ruling All Progressives Congress did authorise it.

The document was authored by the policy and research directorate of the APC presidential campaign, headed by the governor of Ekiti State, Kayode Fayemi, when the party was trying to convince Nigerians to abandon the then ruling PDP.

Then, following a PREMIUM TIMES report of December 2017 drawing public attention to Mr Buhari’s lawless handling of public procurement, the Presidency restated the promise to constitute the council “as soon as possible.”

Reacting at the time, presidential spokesperson Garba Shehu said: “I just read your story on Premium Times, lumping the Buhari Administration along with the others as violating the law by failing to inaugurate the National Council on Procurement.

“It is true you have followed up with us on the issue for several weeks, but it is equally true that your interest in the issue has given us the impetus to follow up relentlessly with our bosses.

“This issue came up at the last meeting of the Federal Executive Council, and a decision was taken that the Council be inaugurated as soon as possible.”

Nearly 18 months after that promise was restated, Mr Buhari has not ceased to disregard the procurement law.

Implication

The membership of the NCPP, according to the Act, should comprise 12 members to be appointed by the president.

While six of the members are government officials, the other six are drawn from relevant professional organisations. Those from the government side, considered permanent members, include the Minister of Finance, who serves as chairman, and the Director-General of the BPP as secretary.

Others are the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, the Head of Service, and the Economic Adviser to the President.

Those representing professional bodies are drawn from the Nigerian Bar Association, the Nigerian Institute of Purchasing and Supply Management, the Nigeria Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Mines and Agriculture, the Nigeria Society of Engineers, a representative of civil society organisations and that of the media.

The FEC comprises the president, the vice president, all the ministers and some presidential advisers, meaning the president and his political appointees who are all less likely to question his decisions.

Thus, the inability of the president to set up the NCPP has meant the FEC alone approves contracts to be executed by its members through their various offices and ministries.

The refusal of Mr Buhari to inaugurate the NCPP ”is a reflection of the poor governance history of many African countries,” commented former minister Obiageli Ezekwesili, speaking with PREMIUM TIMES for our December 2017 report on the disregard for the procurement law. “It has to do with the prioritisation; I mean the priority that the political class gives to transactions above vision, strategy and policy.”

Mrs Ezekwesili, who is the pioneer head of the Budget Monitoring and Price Intelligence Unit under the Olusegun Obasanjo administration, had said: “Transactions provide the opportunity for corruption, so they will like to have much more control over that than give it up to some institutional mechanisms like the council.”

In his reaction, the Executive Director of Civil Society Legislative Advocacy Centre, CISLAC, Awwal Rafsanjani, said “it is unfortunate that the APC administration that came on the hope of fighting corruption and saving the country from total collapse has also joined the bandwagon in violating the law.”

Mr Rafsanjani said the Public Procurement Act 2007 is one of the “sunshine laws” established under the recommendation of the World Bank in 2001 to help in achieving transparency in the procurement process.

“Central to fighting corruption is the establishment of part one, section one of the Act, which is the establishment of the National Council on Public Procurement. This council has the responsibility, among others to translate efforts to sanitise the public sector by applying the content of the law in full.

“Former President Goodluck Jonathan was of course not interested in terms of ensuring that the council is inaugurated and that is how he ended up his tenure without getting that council inaugurated.

The current government came with all sorts of motivation and encouragement that they want to fight corruption, but from what we are seeing, it is unfortunate that the government appears to have forgotten that one of the major things that they need to do to fight corruption is through public procurement. You can see the scandal now and then because of lack of compliance and adherence to the implementation of the Public Procurement Law in Nigeria,” he said.

Presidential spokespersons, Femi Adesina and Mr Shehu, could not be reached to comment on this report.

Mr Adesina did not answer repeated calls to his phone, while Mr Shehu’s line was not available on Tuesday night.

South African woman inconsolable after ex-boyfriend hangs her three children, himself, because she didn't want to be with him anymore

“Molefe has robbed me of my only reason for living. He has torn my heart apart!.”
These were the words of an inconsolable Soshanguve mother whose three children were allegedly killed by a “bitter” ex-boyfriend.

Lucia poured her heart out to a cousin named Portia, in the presence of the Pretoria News, on Wednesday afternoon.

The cousin had gone to her home to comfort the 27-year-old mother, Grief remained etched on the faces of family members and friends who had flocked to the home to give their condolences.

Thabang (11), Amogelang (3) and Lebogang (2) were hanged by Molefe Mojutu before he killed himself, also by hanging in his Soshanguve Block W home on Tuesday.

The older two children were from a previous relationship and the youngest was the killer's child.

Ndala could hardly string a sentence together when she recalled going to the house and finding her children hanged inside a small room. From what the mother understands, the children were fed rat poison before being hanged.

“When I got to that house I saw a horror movie. I touched my first born’s face and told him to wake. That guy has torn my heart apart. He made sure he’d leave me with questions no one in this world could ever answer. He is cruel and I wish he could have just killed me instead and left my innocent children out of this. I’m just wondering what was going through his mind when he hanged the first one, and then the second one and went on to the third. How did he feel when they were screaming for help? This guy has left me with so many questions and only he can answer them,” the emotional mother said.

Ndala said her ex-boyfriend often threatened to kill her and the children but she thought it was just talk until Tuesday.
"Before he killed them, I called him to ask where he had taken the children to and he told me he wanted to buy them pizza. He asked me what I would do if he killed the children and I said: “I know you would not do that,” he then gave my first and second born the phone to tell me that they love me,” she said.

Ndala said her ex-boyfriend used to transport the three children to school. She said he had tried on three separate occasions to commit suicide because she no longer wanted to be with him. She suspects he killed the children because she did not want to be with him anymore.

Police swiftly responded to the scene where the four were certified dead.
Police confirmed three murder cases and an inquest docket had been opened.

Nigerian journalist, Sam Anokam mourns the death of his friend, Seun Adedutan who committed suicide by drinking two bottles of 'Sniper'

Popular Nigerian journalist, Sam Anokam has taken to Facebook to mourn the death of his friend, Seun Adedutan, a father of two who committed suicide by drinking two bottles of Sniper.

According to Sam, 'this is a sad one for me.The picture here is that of my dear friend and classmate in secondary school, Seun Adedutan. As preparations were on-going yesterday for change to another administration at all levels of government for today, Seun my friend was preparing to meet his maker.'

Quote:He ended his life yesterday afternoon after emptying two containers of the dreaded SNIPER! His cold body is in the mortuary. He left behind a wonderful wife and his two dotting kids.
Depression is real! What we are still trying to unravel is that Seun who we call pastor does not drink, womanize or lust after money; what could have happened? As a strong Christian who others run to for counseling, what could have happened? Life belongs to God.
As one of his brother’s said, despite the economic hardship, people are no longer encouraging one another. Government is aloof to the plight of the people. Who do we turn to? Our churches are now business centres. They no longer preach hope but vanity. They should stop all these crappy teaching of pretending to be rich when you are poor; you are sick, they will tell you to pretend to be strong, all is well bullshit, etc.
If a strong Christian like Seun can end his life by himself, wherein lies the hope of norminal believers? I wrote on this wall last week, that something should be done about this SNIPER, people said the issue is not about SNIPER but ourselves. We have been using ‘otapiapa’ and other rat and insect poison before now, the rate of suicide was not this bad but it seems this SNIPER of a thing has an ‘evil spirit’(for church goers) behind it that is pushing people to drink it.
My friend Seun has never been the outspoken type. He must have bottled up a lot of things that triggered whatever it is that made him decide to end it all.
