PDP to President Buhari: Apologise to Nigerians over your ''Necessary evil'' comment






PDP has asked President Buhari to tender an apology to Nigerians over the comment he made to Abuja residents who paid him a courtsey visit in the state house Abuja, yesterday June 4th.
 
President Buhari while receiving residents of the FCT, said he will continue to ensure their safety as they have become necessary evil. The President said although the FCT residents failed to vote for him during the February 23rd election, he is obligated to ensure their safety since he also resides in the FCT. Read here.

The PDP laments that the statement of Mr. President was inciting, divisive and capable of demonizing innocent compatriots and setting them up for victimization by overzealous agencies.
Moreover, President Buhari should note that he was not only rejected by FCT residents but also by an overwhelming majority of Nigerians across the states of the federation, who voted massively for the PDP, only for the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to subvert the will of the people in his favour; consequent upon which our party and presidential candidate have headed for the retrieval of this stolen mandate at the tribunal.
Furthermore, the PDP criticized President Buhari for stating that “to make FCT secure is to make myself secure and the Vice President”.
The party holds that it is the duty of the President to provide security for all parts of the country, irrespective of where he and the Vice President reside or how Nigerians cast their votes.
The PDP maintains that the security of lives of all Nigerians, ought to have been paramount to the President and not determined by inessential factors, if indeed he has the interest of the people at heart.
The PDP therefore calls on President Buhari to apologize to Nigerians for this divisive comment.
The party also urges Nigerians to continue in their determination to retrieve the stolen Presidential mandate at the tribunal, so as to have an administration that truly cares for the citizens, in line with the provisions of our laws.

Oboagwina, media aide to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governorship candidate in the 2019 elections in Lagos State, Mr Jimi Agbaje, has denied reports that his principal had dumped the opposition party.
Oboagwina told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Wednesday in Lagos that social media posts that Agbaje had left the PDP to join the All Progressives Congress (APC) were untrue.

NAN reports that the posts that Agbaje had joined APC have featured prominently on social media platforms such as WhatsApp and Facebook in the past few days.

One of the posts sighted by a NAN on WhatsApp and Facebook on Wednesday read “Lagos PDP finally emptied as Jimi Agbaje defects to APC’’.

It was also reported that former National Vice Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Chief Olabode George, on Wednesday disclosed that the party’s governorship candidate in Lagos State in the last election, Jimi Agbaje, appears to have joined the All Progressives Congress, APC.

George also revealed that Agbaje failed in the last election because ‘he thinks he knows it all’, adding that it was Lagos people who worked against him.

He said that Agbaje originally come from the APC and had been part of the ruling party in the state from the beginning.
Reacting, Oboagwina described the reports as fake news, saying they were figments of the imaginations of the authors.
He said that Agbaje was still very much in the PDP and that there was no way he could have joined APC on social media.

“There is nothing like that, nothing like that at all. He is still in PDP; he has not defected.

“How can people say he has defected on social media? He is too big for that; he is in PDP,” Oboagwina said.

When asked if there were plans by his principal to dump the PDP for the APC, he answered in the negative.

US Customs and Border Protection officers at Baltimore Airport have seized over $15,000 of undeclared cash from a Nigerian couple at the airport.

The Nigerians, according to reports, arrived from London but failed to declare the exact amount of money they had with them.

The couple had reported to CBP officers that they possessed $15,000. However, officers discovered an additional $5,850 in the woman’s purse.

The officers seized the $20,850 and then released $4,990 to the couple as humanitarian relief. The officers also released the couple to continue their visit, saving them from criminal prosecution.

The Nigerians were not identified in a press statement issued on Tuesday.

US Customs said it is perfectly legal to carry large sums of currency in or out of the United States.

However, federal law requires that travellers who possess $10,000 or more in currency or other monetary instruments must report it all to a CBP officer at the airport, seaport, or land border crossing when entering or leaving the country.

Customs and Border Protection officers are highly trained to uncover illicit activity and they are committed to enforcing the laws of the United States.

“Unreported currency often can be proceeds from alleged illicit activity, or used to fund transnational criminal organisations and I commend our officers on this interception”.

CBP recently issued travel tips for international travel through BWI. Chiefly among those tips is for travellers to truthfully report all currency they possess to a CBP officer during inspection.

Consequences for violating U.S. currency reporting laws are severe; penalties may include seizure of most or all of the traveler’s currency, and potential criminal charges.

CBP uses a variety of techniques to intercept narcotics, unreported currency, weapons, counterfeit consumer goods, prohibited agriculture, and other illicit products, and to assure that global tourism remains safe and strong.

On a typical day, CBP seizes an average of about $290,000 in unreported or illicit currency along the nation’s borders.

Doctors remove knife, 8 spoons, screwdrivers, toothbrushes from man’s stomach (Pics)

Karan Sen, 35, had swallowed everything from two screwdrivers and two toothbrushes to eight spoons and a kitchen knife, the Hindustan Times reports.




Sen is believed to have a psychiatric disorder which compels a person to eat non-edible items, according to the Daily Mail. The disorder, Pica, more commonly involves ingesting things like hair, dirt, and paint chips, though doctors didn’t say whether the man had been officially diagnosed.

“It took nearly four hours for the team of surgeons to operate upon Karan,“ says Dr. Rajneesh Pathania, of Lal Bhadur Shastri Medical College. “He is out of danger now.” 

Sen arrived to the hospital in serious pain, but appeared to be unaware of the items in his stomach. X-rays showed the spoons and the knife, which they said was “protruding from inside his stomach.” 

Surgeons immediately began the operation “without wasting any time but discovered more objects inside,” including a metal bar and a door latch. Sen is in recovery now and in the care of his family. 

The gruesome discovery wasn’t the first time dangerous objects had to be surgically removed. In 2017, doctors removed 100 pieces of metal from a man’s stomach, including knives, nails and screws. 

The 52-year-old man had a form of chronic psychosis, which resulted in a tendency to swallow metal objects.

Subsidy claims gulped N11trn in 6 years, says Senate





*Approves more N129bn for 67 marketers
*NASS holds valedictory session June 6

The Senate yesterday fumed that Nigeria has expended N11 trillion to oil marketers as subsidy in the last six years, just as it cautioned that the huge subsidy payment if left unchecked, could kill the economy.


This is just as the National Assembly has adjourned plenary till June 6 for its valedictory session, when it will officially end the four year life of the 8th session of the National Assembly.


This came while the Senate was considering the reports of its Committee on Petroleum Downstream during which the lawmakers took turn to lament the excessive subsidy payments which they questioned the validity.


The Chairman of the committee, Senator Kabiru Marafa (APC Zamfara Central), who presented the report to his colleagues said that Nigeria spent over N11trn to pay outstanding subsidy claims in the last six years.


In another development, the red chamber also approved the payment of additional N129 billion subsidy claims to 67 petroleum marketers.


The Senate had earlier on Tuesday approved the payment of N68.9bn as subsidy claims to 20 petroleum marketers.
Marafa’s report reads, “That due to scarcity of Forex within the period, Oil Marketing Companies were allowed to source Forex outside CBN rate to enable them meet the country’s petroleum products demand.


“That NNPC Retail get their petroleum product allocation directly from PPPMC at already subsidized rate and so does not require forex to transact its business.”


Some of the oil marketers and the amount approved for them include:
Total Nigeria PLC N13.7 billion, Northwest Petroleum N11.4 billion, Masters Energy N10 billion, MRS Oil PLC N8.8 billion and Sahara Energy N8.4 billion.


Others are: MRS Oil & Gas Limited N6.3 billion, Nipco PLC N4.2 billion, Forte Oil N3.9 billion, DEEJONES Petroleum & Gas N4.1 billion, Emadeb N4 billion among others.


The senators, before approving the payment, berated the Federal Government for paying subsidy to oil marketers over the years without approval from the Senate and by extension, the National Assembly.


Senator Barnabas Gemade (SDP Benue North East) in his contribution, asked why the Federal Government and the anti graft agencies had failed to convict any of the oil marketers who were indicted in the illegal subsidy claims.
He regretted that the government had not done enough in bringing the owners of the affected 50 oil firms to justice many years after their prosecution.


He said, “What has happened to those who defrauded the nation? I believe that the 9th Senate will do justice to know what has happened to this money.”


Gemade also reminded the President Muhammadu Buhari-led government of its pledge subsidy payment when it came into in 2015.
He said, “The government should stand by its words. If the government fails to end the subsidy regime, it will kill the Nigerian economy and all of will be accused to it.”


Senator Victor Umeh (APGA, Anambra) said, “If we continue to hope that one day this subsidy will end, we are deceiving ourselves. What would Nigerians face after this payment of arrears?”

“The government should be able to plan to build five refineries, why can’t we use the money we get from sale of our crude to build refineries?


“The government should give us a programme to enable us have four functional refineries in five years.
“Exchange rates are not the problem, but our inability to do what others are doing is the main issue”.
In his ruling after the debate, the Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, said “I hope that the next Assembly will be able to sit with the Executive to address this issue and resolve it without creating unnecessary tension.


“The NNPC needs to also caution itself so that they do not encroach on the appropriation responsibility of the National Assembly.
“We need to do something about provisions of refineries in our country – it is not rocket science. Even if it does not resolve the issue of subsidy, we would have gone a long way in addressing it”.


The breakdown showed that N10.8 bn was approved as subsidy claim to Tanzila Petroleum Company, while another N58.1 bn was okayed for 19 oil marketing companies.

Senate rejects moves to downgrade Enugu Airport

Senate yesterday urged the Federal Government not to downgrade the Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu, as earlier threatened by the immediate past Minister of Aviation, Senator Hadi Sirika.
It also urged the government to rehabilitate the runway of the airport for the safety of passengers and aircrafts, as well as in conformity with international aviation standards.
Similarly, the upper legislative chamber stressed the need to complete the new terminal building of the airport and put it to use by foreign and local airlines, adding that the Federal Ministry of Aviation and its agencies should develop a water source with the nearby Ekulu River for the use of the airport.
While urging the ministry to return the generating sets, allegedly removed from the airport to the one in Port Harcourt, on the orders of the immediate past Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, the Senate thanked the Enugu State Government for swiftly demolishing and ordering the relocation of the Orie Emene Market, shutting down the nearby abattoir and ordering the immediate removal of the broadcasting mast and other illegal structures on the approach of the airport.
The Senate’s resolutions followed a motion on “the threat to downgrade” the airport by Senator Victor Umeh (APGA, Anambra Central) and co-sponsored by 16 other senators during plenary.
Leading the debate on the motion, Senator Umeh, observed that the former Minister of Aviation, Senator Sirika, had threatened to downgrade the airport because of what he considered as imminent dangers posed to air travellers by the presence of a nearby market.

He also said that Sirika had expressed concerns over the presence of a state radio mast on the flight path of airlines that threatened the safety of incoming aircraft, an abattoir, which attracted large birds and exposed airplanes to the bird strikes; the location of a free trade zone and the decrepit state of the runway, hence threatening to downgrade the Airport.

He however, appreciated the concerns of the former minister over the safety of passengers and airplanes that were using the Airport, noting that the airport currently serves travellers from Enugu, Kogi, Anambra, Ebonyi, Benue, cross River and other adjoining states.

According to him, the former minister also asserted that Enugu is to the East what Kaduna is to the North, being the major connecting link to the South Eastern states.

While stressing that the economic importance of the airport to the South East could not be over emphasized, Umeh however, hinted that the Government of Enugu State had removed the structures that the Minister considered as major challenges hampering the smooth operation of the Airport.

He further argued that, rather than talk about downgrading the airport, the federal government should think of rehabilitating it to meet international standards.

The lawmaker expressed concerns that the Airport has only one runway which he said, is currently in bad shape because it has no alternative runway in keeping with international standard.

He also lamented that the runway of the Airport which was awarded to PW PLC was carried out without internal drains which was affecting the stability of the runway, making it to crack and develop pot holes.

In their various contributions, all the senators who spoke, supported the motion, urging that the airport should not be downgraded while also pressing that the facilities at the Airport should be upgraded to meet international standards.
In his remarks, the Deputy President of the President, Ike Ekweremadu, who presided over the plenary, stressed the need for relevant authorities in Aviation Ministry to speedy the upgrading of facilities in the airport.

WEDNESDAY, 5TH JUNE.

FAITH IS BASED ON THE WORD

But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him (Hebrews 11:6).

Faith is giving substance to the unseen. It’s the evidence of unseen realities. We deal with, or relate to the unseen through faith, and the only reason you know they exist is that the Word of God says so.

Therefore, your faith is actually based on what God has said. Your faith comes alive when God talks.
For example, the reason we believe that when we pray God answers isn’t that we think or assume He does, but because the Word says He does. 1 John 5:14 says, “And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us.” His Word is the basis and confidence for our faith. His Word is immutable and irrefutable; it’s called the infallible Word: perfect, dependable and ever sure.

When He told Abraham, “I have made you the father of many nations,” it didn’t matter that Abraham and his wife, Sarah, were already too old to have children. Sarah’s womb was already dead—non-functional—and so was Abraham’s body.

Nevertheless, Abraham’s faith was in the infallibility of God’s Word. The Bible says, “And being not weak in faith, he (Abraham) considered not his own body now dead, when he was about an hundred years old, neither yet the deadness of Sara’s womb: He staggered not at the promise of God through unbelief; but was strong in faith, giving glory to God” (Romans 4:19-20). Blessed be God!

God’s Word never returns to Him void. Therefore, keep acting your faith on what He has said, irrespective of what the senses project. Don’t beg; don’t cower; don’t give up! Insist on your rights, privileges, heritage and blessings in Christ, as stated in the Word. Even now, boldly affirm: “I walk in divine health; I walk in financial abundance; I’m a success, a victor, and a king in this life, and all things are mine!”

Hebrews 13:5-6 says, “...He hath said…so that we may boldly say….” His Word is the basis for our faith-filled confessions

CONFESSION

My faith is alive, active and prevailing; circumstances align with my faith-filled confessions and I rule, reign and dominate my world by my faith. 12 members of a notorious kidnap gang Terrorising East - West Road have been apprehended by men of the OSPAC.

OSPAC is a local vigilance group assisting in providing security at Ogba/Ndoni/Egbema Local Government Area (ONELGA) of Rivers State.

It was gathered the vigilante Group OSPAC had earlier today disguised themselves in a bus as passengers travelling along the Rumuji/Ndele axis of the east west road.

The kidnappers as usual launched attack on them, they were over powered and 12 were arrested.

''I am fulfilled I killed him'' Man says after killing his neighbor who was making advances at his wife






21-year-old man, Umar Audu, has been arrested by men of the Niger state police command for allegedly killing one Abubakar Mohammadu of the Fulani Camp, Wawa village in New-Bussa, Borgu Local Government Area of the state, for making advances at his wife, Hassan Audu.
 
According to police sources, trouble started when Audu's wife, Hassan, complained to him that Mohammed who is a neighbor and resides in their compound, was asking her to have sex with him despite the fact that he knows she is married. Audu confronted Mohammed and warned him several times to leave his wife alone.
 
Things came to a halt recently when Audu attacked Mohammed with a matchete, inflicting deep cuts on his head which led to his death.
 
When interrogated, Audu says he doesn't regret killing Mohammed.

Between January 2000 and February 2004, he was the Director-General of the Centre African de Formation et de Recherche Administrative pour le Development (CAFRAD) in Tangier, Morocco.
 
He is to take over from the current President, María Fernanda Espinosa Garcés, who steps down on September 17th.

Grief and shock engulfed residents of Nombe 2B village in Kashare sub-county Kashari county in Mbarara district when a woman identified as Lydia Kyomuhangi, 65, hacked 7 members of her family to death.
 
 
Lydia Kyomuhangi on Sunday night reportedly lured six of her grandchildren with soda and cake before locking them inside a family kitchen, where she used a machete to hack them to death, one by one. 
 
 
She also killed her daughter Annet Kyomugisha, 25, who had earlier on been chained in the bedroom after developing a mental illness.
 
Her husband George Koma Hangamaisho was also seriously injured before the suspect went into hiding. 
 
However, on Monday morning, she was caught and lynched by a mob, according to Nombe village chairperson Charles Karoli.
 
 

 
The Police, led by Mbarara DPC Gad Murungi, visited the scene, but reached when the suspect had already been killed.
 
Hangamaisho is currently receiving treatment at Mbarara regional referral hospital while the dead bodies are at the same facility’s mortuary for a postmortem.  
 
The dead children have been identified as Apophia Kanshabe (10), Osbert Nuwamanya (8), Oscar Tarimweba (5), Claire Ankunda (5), Addela Orishaba, 9 months and Mercy Owomugisha, 6 months.  
 
 

 
 
Kashare sub county chairperson Deus Mugisha says that the suspect had a mental problem which according to the family was presented to pastors for healing. He says the family believed that the lady had been bewitched and would heal through prayer.

Buhari to Abuja residents: You are necessary evil and I’ll protect you despite not voting for me






President Buhari has described residents of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), as a necessary evil he must protect even though they did not vote for him and his Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo in 2019 general elections.

The President said this today June 4th when FCT permanent secretary, Christian Ohaa, led a delegation of Abuja residence comprising religious leaders, National Assembly members, civil servants, service chiefs and heads of other security agencies among others to pay him Sallah homage to mark the successful completion of this year’s Ramadan fast.
 
While speaking to the delegation, the President Buhari said that he would continue to protect the seat of power because any negative thing that happens to the place would also affect him and the entire residence.

Israel's First Lady, Nechama Rivlin, is reportedly dead at the age of 63. Rivlin who died on Tuesday morning, will be laid to rest on Wednesday afternoon at Mt. Herzl. Her coffin will be placed at the Jerusalem Theater between 2 p.m. and 5 p.m., after which the cortege will depart to Mt. Herzl. At 6 p.m. Nechama will be laid to rest at the Gedolei Hauma (Leaders of the Nation) section, where eulogies will be delivered. 

Flags at the President's Residence in Jerusalem were lowered to half mast in a sign of mourning, just after Israel's first lady who is survived by her three children - Rivka, Anat and Ran - and seven grandchildren was confirmed dead. 

"At the request of the family, and as a mark of their deep appreciation for the concern shown by the citizens of Israel during her illness, the public is invited to participate in both events," the President's Residence said.

A man identified as Mr. Samuel Chidi, a graduate of Law from Ebonyi State University, Abakilikk, has been accused of ‘deliberate criminal negligence’ towards his wife, Igbere TV reports.

According to a social media user who shared the story with Igbere TV, Chidi, a resident of Diamond Point Junction, Chinedu Ogah Avenue, Abakaliki, had watched his wife who had previously delivered twice though caesarean section, battle with labour pains in their room and bled to death. 

“Chidi could have easily contacted a Nurse who was also living in the same compound but instead left the poor woman locked up in the room with a patent medicine dealer who, to make matters worse, administered improper injections, dragged out the baby to the ground while the husband pinned her legs down, collected the blood, the baby's placenta and hid in his room while leaving the agonizing mother to bleed till death," our source alleged.

It was gathered that the incident occurred around 11pm, and Chidi did not inform anyone in the compound or any member of the deceased family until the afternoon of the following day when a neighbour, a Nurse who came to check on Mrs. Nkechi, the late woman, learnt of the incident.

“She insisted that her corpse be deposited immediately at the morgue for proper attention while the lucky newborn baby be moved into intensive care,” the source said. 

Igbere TV gathered that the family of the deceased was contacted soon after and dismayed by the negligent conduct of the man who had sworn to love, cherish and protect their daughter till death do them part, withdrew the body and proceeded to dump it in the man’s compound “for him to do with it as he had presumably purposed.”

“But for the quick intervention of members of the Nigeria Police from Kpirikpiri Station, who were on Patrol duty, got wind of the incident and prevailed on the situation.”

Igbere TV learnt that the corpse was returned to the Federal Teaching Hospital, Abakaliki mortuary while the suspect was placed under police custody pending investigation and trial. 

“The circumstances surrounding the death of Mrs. Nkechi remain largely a mystery to her neighbours and family, and the general public is hopeful that the Justice Department of the State will leave no stone unturned in their attempt to unravel it and bring those culpable to book,” a family source told Igbere Tuesday night.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has mocked former National Chairman, John Oyegun, saying he and the National Working Committee he led as National Chairman lacked the courage required to confront the pockets of political despots who could not operate by the party’s rules. The party cited the National Assembly saga in 2015 that saw the emergence of Bukola Saraki as Senate President and Yakubu Dogara as Speaker against party wishes, while Oyegun could not do anything about it till he left office.

PC National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu, in an interview with journalists, spoke in reaction to Oyegun’s comments that incumbent chairman, Adams Oshiomhole, was leading the party using “agbero” (tout) style.

The resultant effect, he said, was widespread indiscipline across party ranks, lack of respect for party supremacy as witnessed in the 8th National Assembly leadership and its overall inability to align the varying interests of the legacy parties that came together to form the APC in 2014.

“Let me agree that the NWC that led the party into the 2015 elections and continued till June 2018 did nothing different from what you would find in PDP.

“It was a period the party was seen as a mere vehicle to attain political office. The system accommodated impunity as certain members appeared to be superior to the party.

“Their interests were far more important than the collective interests of the APC, even when most times such interests are at variance with the ideals the party stand for.

“You would recall that it was under that leadership that some impudent members of APC called the bluff of the party by imposing themselves on the National Assembly as leaders contrary to the position of the party. Where was the party?

“Where was the discipline when this happened? It would be difficult to calculate what lack of courage to assert the party supremacy cost APC over that period.

“The consequences of the inaction of the party were unimaginable. We all saw the consequences on governance as the National assembly practically held our government to ransom.

“The impunity, which President Muhammadu Buhari has rightly described as lack of patriotism, constituted an unfortunate hindrance to the smooth running of government.

“The leadership under Chief Oyegun, with due respect to him, condoned all sorts of acts of indiscipline from certain members. President Donald Trump has bought his £1.2million 'Beast' limousine to London this week, and the heavily armed Cadillac was spotted at a BP petrol station in London which resulted in the road being blocked off by police in order for the vehicle to fill up ahead of the three day trip.

Passers-by spotted the President's entourage and took to Twitter to post photos of the vehicle, which was surrounded by police on motorbikes and the rest of the motorcade. It is not known how big the tank is, or how much it would cost to fill.

The car was filling up for the trip, as it is expected to transport the President and his wife Melania around London during their stay, accompanied by American military personnel.

They will going from the iconic Buckingham Palace before driving to the stunning Westminster Abbey later today.


The President motorcade was seen blocking off the road at the weekend while pedestrians looked on at all the vehicles which had taken up the road in order for the Beast to re-fuel.

Support vehicles as well as senior military were thought to have been on the scene.

Another £211,000,000 Abacha loot seized from bank account in Channel Islands




 
The Channels Island government has seized money to the value of £211,000,000 in a Jersey bank account that allegedly belonged to former military dictator, General Sani Abacha.
 
According to a report on MetroNews, Abacha laundered the money through the US into the Channel Islands  in Europe. The money was put in accounts held in Jersey by Doraville Properties Corporation, a British Virgin Islands company.
 
The money is now being held by the government until authorities in Jersey, the US and Nigeria come to an agreement on how it should be distributed.
 
Abacha was a military dictator who served as the de facto President of Nigeria from 1993 until his death in 1998.

A police officer in the Abia state police command has been accused of extrajudicial killing.
 
Twitter user simply identified as Amaka in a series of tweets, said the police officer identified as Collins Akpugo, allegedly shot the victim, Christian Onuoha, dead along the Okwulaga Afara-Ukwu, Ibeku, Umuahia, Abia state.
 
The state police command is yet to react to the allegation.

Last night Afara-ukwu, Ibeku, in Umuahia, Abia State was on fire as youths burn down police vehicle over the death of young man who was shoot by an identified police officer.

According to an eye witness who forwarded thess pictures to orjisblog, said that the boy whose name was "Christian Onuoha" was shot by a policeman whose name is "Collins Akpugo" over an argument. According to her she said Christian was shoot because he asked the police men to dime the lights of their car and the policeman threatened and fired a shot at the boy.

These lead to the setting of the police car on fire by the angry youths who chased the security men away. More details about this later..

Kano State anti-corruption commission tells Governor Ganduje to suspend Emir Sanusi for misappropriating N3.4 Billion






The Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-corruption Commission has recommended the suspension of Muhammadu Sanusi, the emir of Kano.
 
The commission said it has been investigating the alleged misappropriation for a while and it uncovered that N3.4 billion was allegedly misspent by the emirate under Sanusi.  
 
The amount was said to have been misappropriated between 2014 and 2017 as contained in a preliminary report of the investigation conducted by the commission and signed by Muhuyi Magaji, its chairman.  
 
The interim report raised four cardinal issues bordering on indictments, the amount involved, obstruction of investigation and recommendations. The report indicated that the Kano emirate council had spent over N1.4 billion in various expenditures believed to be fraudulent and unappropriated. In addition, the emirate council was alleged to have spent over N1.9 billion unappropriated on seemingly personal expenditures, making the total sum of the questionable expenditures.  
 
According to the report, the expenditures contravened the provisions of section 120 of the 1999 constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended) and section 8 of the Kano state emirate council special fund law 2004. Similarly, the expenditure had also violated Section 314 of the penal code as well as provisions of section 26 of the Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission Law 2008 (as amended).

Quote:“It is also the opinion of this Commission, based on the available evidence, that Emir Muhammadu Sanusi II continued to undermine the investigation through various means which include giving instruction to all officers invited for clarification to shun the commission’s invitation.
The act is seriously affecting the process of our statutory responsibility and offends the provisions of Section 25 of the Commission’s enabling Law 2008 (as amended).”  
The report, therefore, recommended that the “principal suspect in the person of Muhammadu Sanusi II and all other suspects connected with the case be suspended, pending the final outcome of the investigations.
This is a necessary administrative disciplinary action aimed at preventing the suspects from further interfering with the commission’s investigations.
The commission further recommends that the contract awarded to Tri-C Nigeria Limited for the renovation of Babban Daki, Kofar Kudu and Gidan Sarki Dorayi should be revoked as the company belongs to one of the suspects in the person of Alhaji Mannir Sanusi, (The Chief of Staff in the Emirate)”  the report read.

A senior advocate of Nigeria and rights activist, Femi Falana, has said that President Muhammadu Buhari cannot single-handedly approve establishment of State and Local Government Areas police.

In a brief statement in reaction to the recommendation of the Presidential panel on election reforms, Falana declared that the issue of establishing state police is a constitutional matter.

He said President Buhari cannot decide on it.

The senior lawyer said without going through the National Assembly for amendment of the Constitution, whatever decision unilaterally made by Buhari would not work.

“Issue of state police is a constitutional one; there must be an amendment of the constitution in order for the president to approve the recommendation of the National Human Rights Commission.

A thought hit me. If @jidesanwoolu wants to make extra N200b to develop Lagos, he should just invest in CCTVs at major and busy junctions. With STOP signs to boot. Borrow money fix the roads and drainages. Then set up a system that will get drivers and vehicles to be linked together. When you are caught on tape, beating the traffic lights or breaking traffic laws, you will just get the alert that the payment has been deducted from your account. 
To make this work, each car will have its registration number linked to the BVN of the owner. No need to set up any other means of collecting the money. And if you sell the car, you must go to the licensing office to change the BVN. Failure to do that means whoever drives the car and commits an offence, will not be debited. The original owner pays. 
If it's a military vehicle, the debit comes from the military account. Same with corporate bodies. Individuals too. You can imagine Oga is sitting at home, in Ikoyi, and he gets a debit alert for traffic infractions in Lekki PHASE 1, N45,000. How? He will call the driver or whoever is with the car. Kilode? "I beat red lights sir". Just sack yourself. 
And it doesn't matter whether you have money in the account. The account will be on debit. Any day money comes in it will be deducted with interest.

Security Guards allegedly kill Ghanaian Boss, daughter over unpaid salaries in Ondo (photos)






The Ondo state police command have arrested two security guards for killing their boss, 71 year old Kwakye Kwaku Richards, a Ghanaian, and his 27-year-old daughter, Kwakyw Tope, at his residence at Ojomo Akintan Estate on Ilesha/Owo expressway in Ondo State.
 
Parading the suspect before newsmen, the state Commissioner of Police, Undie Adie, said the suspects, Ayuba Idris, and Taisu Abubakar, both aged 20, were initially declared wanted by the police for killing the victims and were arrested in Kano and Sokoto states, respectively.
 
The suspects who are of Hausa and Fulani extractions, confessed that they killed their boss and daughter and dumped their corpse in a building in their estate. Their gross was that the man refused to pay them their 3-months salaries. Items found on them include mobile phones, laptop and clothes.

The war against terrorism has suffered a setback as Boko Haram captured Marte Local Government Area (LGA) of Borno State after an attack on a military base in the area.

One of the soldiers who was in the military base, but who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the insurgents stormed the 153 Task Force Battalion base on Sunday and opened fire on the troops. The terrorists later set the military base on fire.
The source said the attack, which took place at about 6 p.m. caught the troops unaware.


News of the capture of Marte broke as troops from the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) battled insurgents, mostly fighters of the Islamic State for West Africa Province (ISWAP), in Arege and Malkonory in the Lake Chad area, killing 20 insurgents.
“We engaged them in a fierce encounter for about an hour. Initially, we were about getting victorious over them, but they overpowered us, and all troops in the burning base were set asunder, with all of us fleeing in all directions in the bush,” the source said.

However, efforts to get Army spokesman, Col. Sagir Musa, to give details of the clash were abortive as calls made to his telephone line were not answered.
But MNJTF spokesman, Col. Timothy Antigha, who gave an update on the killing of the insurgents, said the multinational troops killed over 20 terrorists operating around Arege, Malkonory and Tumbum Rego general area.

ON Tuesday, May 21, half-clad women and youths of Gelegele, an Ijaw community which the natives call Gelegelegbene but which Bini identify as Gelegele, in Ovia North East local government area of Edo State, allegedly chased away over 50 police officers and construction workers from the riverine community.


The workers were in the community to map out the site for the construction of a housing estate for the Oba of Benin, while the police officers were there to provide security for them.

However, Ijaw residents of the community, who are contending with the Benin monarch over the ownership of the area, saw the action as an affront.

24 hours later, the people of Kokodiagbene, another Ijaw community in Gbaramatu Kingdom, Warri South-West local government area of Delta State, shut down Chevron Nigeria Limited, CNL’s Otunana flow station, citing alleged refusal and neglect of the American oil giant to extend electricity to the host community.

The angry villagers threatened to cause more havoc forcing Governor Ifeanyi Okowa to instruct his deputy, Mr Kingsley Otuaro, who is the Chairman of the Delta State Advocacy Committee Against Vandalism of Oil and Gas Facilities, to relocate from Asaba to Warri to mediate.

As of the time of this report, Otuaro indicated to Sunday Vanguard he was still in Warri.

In Edo where the dispute between Bini people and Ijaw people of Gelegele had been raging without resolution for years, Ijaw youths from other parts of Niger Delta have vowed to join forces with their Gelegelegbene counterparts to battle the Benin monarch who they alleged is behind the crisis.

An unconfirmed report said Ijaw youth were mobilizing to defend their tribesmen in Gelegelegbene and were not ready to cede any party of Ijaw land to Bini people.

Reports said the irate villagers marched the police officers and workers out of the community and seized copies of a survey plan of a housing estate by the Oba of Benin in the area.

The ownership of Gelegele has remained a knotty issue between the warring Ijaw and Benin ethnic groups, but the state government has been unable to amicably settle the problem.

The National President of Ijaw Peoples Development Initiative, Austin Ozobo, told Sunday Vanguard, “As Ijaw people, we are not happy with the manner Governor Godwin Obaseki is handling the matter. He is taking sides with his Bini people and has not been a fair arbiter.”

Gelegele: Half nude women chase away police as Ijaw escalate fight with Oba of Benin
A community leader, Chief Macaulay Ayiwe, alleged that the state government wants to acquire 300 hectares of Gelegele land as part of the plan to harness the Ijaw community for Benin Kingdom.

“We were shocked when several armed Mobile Policemen, who came in six patrol vehicles, including a state government-registered van, came to the community in a combatant style,” he added.

Land properly allocated to Benin monarch – Edo govt

The Special Adviser to Edo State Governor on Communication and Media Strategy, Mr. Crusoe Osagie, affirmed that government duly allocated land in the Gelegele to the Benin monarch, warning that government would deal with trespassers in accordance with the laws of the state.

Osagie said Obaseki is vested with the power to oversee lands in the state and therefore in a position to allocate land without hindrance, pointing out that there was no question of government forcefully acquiring land.

He explained that the state government set up the Private Property Protection Task Force to protect people’s land from being trespassed and that no individual had the right to trespass on other people’s property.

Ijaw youth threaten mayhem

The National President of the Ijaw Youth Council, IYC, Pereotubo Oweilaemi, accused the Oba of Benin of continued trespass on Gelegelegbene land, saying he was inviting anarchy.

He said, “The Ijaw nation wishes to pass a note of warning to the Bini ethnic nationality over the continued encroachment of Gelegelegbene lands by the Oba of Benin and his subjects. The silent war of aggression against the Ijaw in Edo State, particularly the people of Gelegelegbene, is becoming alarming. We cannot fold our arms anymore.

“The Bini monarch’s unprovoked trespassing on Gelegelegbene lands on daily basis is a declaration of fratricidal war against the Ijaw nation and we will no longer fold our arms. Ijaw will not cede their land anywhere in Nigeria, including Edo, to any self-professed aggressor. We are equal to the task and we will defend our father’s lands with all vigour.

“The proposed building of a palace on Gelegelegbene land by the Bini monarch is not only being viewed by the Ijaw nation as despicable, we also see the gesture as an open declaration of war of aggression against the entire Ijaw nation.

“An attack on one Ijaw community is an attack on the entire Ijaw nation. We will no longer condone Bini people’s land grabbing attitude.

“We are warning security agencies to be neutral in this matter. They should not stoke ethnic crisis in Edo. We will not have any problem with them if they go there to maintain law and order.

“As for Edo State government, since it has become a policy that the Ijaw in state do not deserve to be protected by the former, we will do well to stand with our kith and kin in their ancestral lands.

“The Ijaw in Edo even pre-existed the Bini ethnic nationality. The Ijaw nation will rise in defence of our lands in the state by every means necessary since the government therein has chosen to exterminate our existence in Edo State through the Bini monarch.

“We are calling on the Federal Government, the National Assembly and the governors from across the South-South geopolitical zone to prevail on the Edo government and the Oba of Benin to stop their aggressive action against the Ijaw nation.

“The action of the Bini king is a ticking time bomb, which may explode at any time into a full-blown ethnic crisis”.

Ijaw‘re our tenants – Bini Traditional Council

In its reaction, Secretary, Benin Traditional Council, BTC), Frank Irabo, dismissed the allegation that Bini trespassed on Ijaw land, saying the Ijaw were tenants going by a decision of the Supreme Court over 30 years ago.

“It was the Ijaw that took the matter to the Supreme Court between 1982/83. The judgment said that the Ijaw are tenants in Gelegele. They chose not to obey the judgment, that statement from them has no basis. The whole of Gelegele and environs are part of Benin land and it belongs to the Oba of Benin,” he said.

Mulade blasts IOCs

In Delta, the protesting communities had, for a long time, demanded, among other things, that Chevron extends electricity to them from the flow station, provide drinkable water and build a hospital.

A Niger Delta activist, who hails from the area, Sheriff Mulade, called on the oil giant to meet the age-long demands of Kokodiagbene, which has been Chevron’s host for over 40 years.

Mulade, who is from Kokodiagbene, condemned IOCs’ activities, particularly Chevron, in delaying supply of electricity from their stations to their host communities in the Niger Delta.

He said, “The host communities have lost confidence in the IOCs in the discharge of their Corporate Social Responsibility, and government has failed to give a sense of belonging to the host communities, especially to Kokodiagbene.”

Mulade, who spoke before the peace meeting brokered by the state government, added that the failure of the oil firms in the area to fulfil their promises to the people had resulted into different crises in the Niger Delta.

Otuaro, who has become a veteran in conflict resolution in the state, invited the company and stakeholders, including the affected four communities hosting the flow station to a meeting at Government House Annex, Warri to broker peace.

He said shutting down the facility was unhealthy to the host communities, the company, the state and the Federal Government and called on the oil company to look into development of its host communities.

The deputy governor charged the company and stakeholders of the communities to work in accordance with the decisions reached.

The General Manager, Policy, Government Affairs of Chevron, Mr. Esimaje Brikins, said his company would work to meet the ultimatum given it by the host communities to avoid shutting their operations down again.

He thanked the state government for the timely intervention to avoid loss of revenue and to bring about lasting peace.

Some of the stakeholders from Egbema, Gbaramatu, Kokodiagbene and Makaraba communities said that if Chevron failed to respect the ultimatum given to it, they would further shut down the flow station.

They alleged that the oil firm had refused to provide basic amenities for its host communities in addition to failing to implement the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) reached with them.

Opinion leaders from the affected communities and top government functionaries, including the Commissioner for Oil and Gas, Mr. Freeman Fregene, Chairman of Warri South West local government area, Hon. Taiye Tuoyo and the Special Adviser to the Governor on Conflict Resolution and Peace Building, Chief Edwin Uzor attended the meeting.

Banks hire 25,998 contract staff in 2 years
 


 
Of the total number of 27,921 new staff employed by Deposit Money Banks (DMBs) in the country between the first quarter of 2017 and the first quarter of this year, 25,998 (93 per cent) were contract staff, findings by New Telegraph show.
According to the “Selected Banking S ector Data Q1 2019” released by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), at the weekend, the total number of DMBs’ employees rose to 105,017 in Q1 2019 from 77,096 in the same period of 2017, indicating that a total of 27,921 new staff were hired during the period.
A New Telegraph analysis of the NBS data, however, indicates that 93 per cent of the new personnel employed by DMBs during the period were contract staff.

Indeed, a breakdown of the figures shows that the number of contract staff hired by the banks has risen steadily every quarter from 2017 to 2019.

Thus, the total number of contract staff in the industry, which stood at 20,237 in Q1 2017, increased to 32,359 at the end of that year and further rose to 45,238 at the end of 2018.


In contrast to the steady increase in the number of contract staff, the total number of senior staff in the banking industry, which stood at 20,483 as at Q1 2017, declined to 16,568 at the end of that year. However, it has inched up from 16,941 in Q1 2018 to 18,018 in the first quarter of this year.

Similarly, the total number of junior staff in the industry, which stood at 36,202 in Q1 2017, fell to 33,783 and 35,191 in Q2 and Q3 2017 respectively, before rising to 41,338 in Q4 of that year. It then fell to 40,444 in the first quarter of last year before rising to 41,111 at the end of 2018 and dropping to 40,571 in the first three months of this year.


Also, the number of banks’ Executive Staff which rose to 201 at the end of last year from 174 in Q1 2017 fell to 193 in the first three months of this year.

This is because all creation, living or non-living, has intelligence. This is so clear in the Word of God. Jesus talked to the wind, and the sea (Mark 4:39); and even talked to a tree (Mark 11:14).

When you study the first chapter of Genesis, you’ll understand why everything has intelligence. In the third verse, the Bible says, “And God said….”

Throughout the chapter, we find many instances where God gave the Word and everything He said came into existence and retained intelligence.
For example, when He commanded the water to bring forth fishes from the sea, the water retained that memory or programming and produced the fishes. Both the water and the fishes that came out of it were connected to the programming of God’s Word.

By talking to those elements, God communicated and programmed energy into them, and they retained it. So, as a child of God, when you speak, make sure what you say is in sync with the Word. Remember, your words are impregnated with power and authority. Hallelujah!

Speak to your body, your car, your business, the tools you work with, your furniture, and everything connected to you; they all have intelligence. Speak what you want to see, and what you want them to bring forth, and it shall be so. Use your mouth, your words, to chart your way and programme your life in excellence; from victory to victory, and from glory to glory.

CONFESSION

My life is for the glory of God. I walk in excellence and the Lord has perfected all that concerns me. His grace is superabundant upon me, and His power is in my words to cause them to materialise. I walk in righteousness, victory, dominion and success today. Blessed be God!

Former President, Olusegun Obasanjo has commended Aisha Buhari for pointing out the ''ills'' of President Buhari's adminstration.

Ponzi Scheme: SwissGolden director, Michael Eke to remain in prison over N320m fraud charge




 
EFCC has arraigned the registered trustee of Micheno Multi-purpose Cooperative Society, Mr. Uno Michael Eke before Justice Simon Amobeda of the Federal High Court, sitting in Calabar, Cross River State, on a separate 74-count charge, for allegedly obtaining over N320 million (Three Hundred and Twenty Million) by false pretence from innocent Nigerians.
 
Eke, allegedly defrauded his victims through an alleged ponzi scheme by inducing his victims to invest in his Swissgolden packages, through his company, Micheno Multi-purpose Cooperative Society, under the false pretence of paying them 80 per cent return on investment within just 40 days.
 
With this enticing bait, Eke duped so many people through the scheme, and when his investors started calling for their capitals and expected interest, he made himself unreachable, both by telephone and in person.

Breaking: APC expels ex-governor, Abdulaziz Yari




 
The leadership of the ruling All Progressives Congress APC in Zamfara state, have expelled the immediate past governor of the state, Abdulaziz Yari, for allegedly scuttling the party’s chance of winning the March 9th governorship election in the state. 
 
Yari's expulsion was contained in a statement jointly signed by the chairman of the party in Zamfara state, Alhaji Surajo Garba Mai Katako and the Publicity Secretary, Muhammad Bello Bakyasuwa. Also expelled is the Deputy National Chairman (North) of the APC, Lawali Shuaibu for allegedly conniving with Yari to sabotage the National Working Committee of the party during the party's primary elections.

It was exactly what Marlins manager Don Mattingly had promised when, in the top of the inning, he complained that both teams — not just the Giants — had received a warning when San Francisco starter Dereck Rodriguez hit Lewis Brinson with a pitch.
After a heated exchange with the umpires, Mattingly could be seen telling Posey, “You’re next.” Giants manager Bruce Bochy then jumped out of the dugout, having heard Mattingly tell the umpires, “If not tonight, then tomorrow.”
“I guess they thought they had to do something,” Bochy said of the Marlins, whose three-run, ninth-inning rally on Monday night included a key hit by Brinson, who celebrated by yelling at Giants closer Hunter Strickland on his way to first base.
