Ruga Ultimatum: We Will Hold Northern Governors Responsible – Ohanaeze
User Avatar Forum: General Discussion
Posted by: Edoman - 07-05-2019, 11:48 AM - No Replies

The Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council, OYC, has threatened fire over the ultimatum issued by what it called a faceless coalition of Northern Youths over the controversial Ruga settlement.

The youths had given the Federal Government 30 days to implement Ruga across the 36 States and the FCT.

But reacting, the OYC, through its President-General, Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro, said their Northern counterparts were taking more than required.

He said “Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth council worldwide had studied diligently and weighed the implications of the recent threat and 30-day ultimatum from a certain Northern group named “Coalition of Northern groups” over the suspension of Ruga settlement by the Presidency.

“We would have ignored them but for the unnecessary tension in the Southern Nigeria, especially Igbos emanating from the threat of this Northern group.

“We are fully aware that this recent threat is targeted only on the lives and properties of peaceful Nigerians of Igbo extraction doing businesses in 19 Northern States, and this is a declaration of war against the Igbos.”

He said though the Igbo youths would not fail to explore all peaceful avenues for the protection of lives and properties of Igbos living in the 19 Northern States, “our peaceful approach should not be understood as weakness as there are other options open to us over the recent threat.”

Isiguzoro, however, lauded President Muhammadu Buhari “for the suspension of the Ruga settlement program and the careful approach of the National Economic Council under Vice President Yemi Osibanjo and the Sub Committee led by Governor Dave Umahi.

“We urge the Coalition of Northern groups to direct Northern Governors to opt for the second option of ranching through this peaceful National livestock Transformation Programme rather than Ruga settlement, which was clearly rejected by the Southern Nigeria, especially the South East /South-South Governors and the people.

“OYC wishes to remind the leadership of the coalition of Northern groups of the grave implications of this recent threat. In the interest of national peace and security, they should withdraw the 30-day ultimatum, immediately.

Daily Devotional for Friday 5th July
User Avatar Forum: Daily Devotions
Posted by: Edoman - 07-05-2019, 11:22 AM - Replies (4)

RHAPSODY OF REALITIES

FRIDAY, 5TH JULY.

GET A “WORD-BATH”

Now ye are clean through the word which I have spoken unto you (John 15:3).

Imagine a Christian waking up in the morning and turning on the TV to discover that the programme airing happens to be “Pastor Chris Teaching.” He gives it full attention till the end and then the next programme comes up, this time, it’s an unwholesome one for a Christian. Even so, he continues to watch.

When he’s done watching this, and several others after it (all with unwholesome contents), he’s too tired to pray or study the Word. He feels condemned, and even begins to feel too “dirty” to go to church, thinking he’d need to “clean up” first. He could start praying, “Oh God, please revive me.”

For this Christian, it’s now very necessary to go to Church! His unedifying action could slow down his progress spiritually if it continues, but he needs an urgent Word-bath! No one is ever “too dirty” for God. In our opening verse, Jesus said, “Now ye are clean through the word which I have spoken unto you” (John 15:3).

It’s the ministry of the Word to cleanse you of sin, guilt, and all unrighteousness. So, don’t stay at home when you ought to be in Church because you thought you did something wrong that made you “too dirty” for God. Go to Church! He’ll clean you up! He does it through the Word.

Jesus didn’t come for perfect men. Rather, He came to make men perfect. He specializes in changing imperfect people and bringing them to perfection. He raised an “unstable” person like Peter, and transformed an injurious personality like Paul, who both became mighty apostles of the Gospel. If He’d do that, then He can cleanse and train you to become the best of you for His glory.

Submit yourself to the cleansing power of God’s Word. Study and meditate on the Scriptures. You might say, “But I don’t know where to begin to even read the Bible.” This devotional gives you a head start. Keep studying it, including all the indicated scriptural references.

In addition, meticulously follow either the one-year or two-year daily Bible-reading plan. Before long, you’ll see remarkable transformation in your life, and those around you will also attest to the grace and glory of God evident in your life. Praise God!

CONFESSION

Sin has no dominion over me. I walk in perfection and excellence, producing works and fruits of righteousness. The Word of God has the mastery over my mind, and I have the victory over sin and its attendant consequences. I live triumphantly, walking in righteousness and in the wisdom of Christ.
Blessed be God!

#AFFIRMATIONTRAIN 4TH JULY.
I affirm that the Lord has set before me an open door which no man can shut. I am in God’s place for my life and my capacity has increased! I experience expansion in my finances, expansion in my career, expansion in my ministry, expansion in my academic, expansion in my business. Hallelujah. This is my set time for expansion and I am unstoppable!

My cell, church, business, family and all that concerns me has received the grace to expand. My territory and influence have expanded. Watch out world, watch out devil… I am coming by the power of the Holy Ghost. I am expanding on every side, making progress with giant strides, and waxing stronger every day by the power of the Holy Spirit. No matter how strong the contrary winds blow, my life is unshakable, because

I am firmly rooted in Christ. I’ll never be discouraged or disadvantaged because I am the planting of the Lord. The lines are falling unto me in pleasant places; yes, I have a goodly heritage. Hallelujah! Every step I take is a step of progress, prosperity, abundance, success, and greatness. Glory to God!

Police beef up security in Osun State ahead of Supreme Court judgement on Adeleke VS Oyetola's case tomorrow

The Osun State Police Command says security has been beefed up in the state to prevent any breakdown of law and order ahead of Friday’s Supreme Court’s judgement on the 2018 Osun governorship election.

The command’s spokesperson, DSP Folashade Odoro, told journalists that the police was fully prepared for the outcome.

Quote:“Officers have been placed on red alert and are pro-active to prevent any kind of violence or demonstration in the state. We will, however, want to urge people of the state to maintain law and order and go about their lawful businesses without fear or intimidation,” she said.
The Peoples Democratic Party and its candidate, Senator Ademola Adeleke, had challenged the victory of the All Progressives Congress and its candidate, Governor Gboyega Oyetola at the Osun 2018 Governorship Election Tribunal.

The tribunal on March 22 declared Adeleke as the winner of the election, but the judgment was later overturned by the Appeal Court on May 9. The case has, however, moved to the Supreme Court for final judgement and the court is set to rule on the matter on July 5.

17 people killed as bandits attack four communities in Katsina State again

On Wednesday night, bandits launched a fresh onslaught on four communities of Kankara and Danmusa Local Government Areas of Katsina State, killing no fewer than 17 residents.

Some of those killed, according to local sources, were asleep, when the “heavily armed bandits” attacked them. The hoodlums also attacked Maidabino market in Danmusa Local Government, where they reportedly killed two persons and injured many.

A resident, Aliyu Abdulkadir, said that the bandits attacked Ungwar Rabo around 9 p.m. and opened fire on some youths who were watching films at a viewing centre in the area and killed nine.

Quote:He added: “They came back again and ransacked Ungwar Nagwande where they massacred four. They also slaughtered two at Gidan Daji and carted away many of our animals. We are still searching for corpses in the bush and there is fear that the death toll will rise because most of our people are still missing. We are calling on government to negotiate with these people (bandits) to end wanton killings in the state.”
According to Abdulkadir, many were injured and are receiving treatment at Kankara and Dandume General Hospitals, while those whose injuries are serious were referred to Katsina General Hospital.  It was gathered that security personnel later went to the affected communities in three vehicles, hours after the bandits had “finished” their deadly operations.

However, the spokesman of the Katsina State Police Command and Superintendent of Police, SP Gambo Isah, told newsmen that only 11 were killed in Kankara Local Government, while two people were shot at Maidabino village of Danmusa Local Government. He explained that a team of security operatives had since been deployed in the areas to restore normally, urging residents not to panic as security agencies were on top of the situation.

First Time Driving In Lagos? These 25 Lagos Driving Rules Will Help You
User Avatar Forum: News
Posted by: Edoman - 07-04-2019, 04:40 PM - No Replies

Lagos, the center of aquatic splendor is full of its bubbles, opportunities, and vibes, it's a city its residents refer to as a city that never sleeps. Lagos, being a developing megacity has its ups and downs and one of its down moment is the traffic. A popular comedian says Lagosians sleep and lives in traffic, we only visit our homes to change clothes.

For someone who is new in Lagos and new in Nigeria, may find driving in Lagos to be very weird especially seeing tankers, trailers, okadas and danfos on Lagos roads. In Lagos, we idolize these folks, without them, we all will be trekking in fact within 2 weeks, the children of Israelites will look fresher than us.

A Yankee based Nigerian was in Lagos some years back and this time, he decided to drive himself across the city of Lagos but he was amazed that all the driving skills that he learned abroad are not applicable to Lagos. According to him, he said " I consider myself a decent and polite driver; however, when I got behind the wheels in Lagos, I felt my driving style completely mutate into something I couldn’t recognize… but I knew I needed it to survive. Here are some tips I picked up as a driver and passenger."

* The lines demarcating the lanes are recommendations; at best suggestions. Actually, they are opinions. It’s acceptable to ignore them. Just ignore them. If you see an opening, go for it, that’s your lane. In Lagos, you can create your own lane.

* The roads are so bad in many areas that the sight of good roads could make you want to accelerate. Go ahead and accelerate. Enjoy it while it last.

* Traffic lights are also suggestions. Red means go. Green means go. Yellow means go. Basically, just go. It’s always a pleasant surprise when a driver adheres to the traffic light.

* Try not to make awkwardly long eye contact with any of the street vendors unless your intention is to purchase something. By the way, you can buy just about anything from those vendors…even a new car!

* Signaling with your hand is more effective than using your signal light.

* The majority of traffic jams are caused by drivers slowing down to avoid multiple potholes on busy roads. #fixthebadroads

* Everyone is always in a hurry and impatient because their time is apparently more important than yours. Deal with it.

* When you cut someone off just stare them down as you do it. They will respect your audacity. And it will also make you feel like the “OGA ON TOP” of the road.

* It’s safe to assume other drivers do not have insurance. In the words of one of the taxi drivers that gave me a lift: “Wetin be insurance?”

* Be advised that the yellow taxi buses can stop anytime and anywhere so don’t follow too closely unless you have brand new brake pads and comprehensive auto insurance.

* Expect pedestrians to cross the busy highways and freeways. Watch out for them.

* It doesn’t matter where you are going just know that there will be traffic.

* If you’re involved in a fender bender with a yellow bus taxi driver he would more than likely beg you to forgive him by lying flat on the ground. Forgive him and move on, it’s not worth the argument back and forth.

* Keep one hand on the steering wheel and the other hand next to the horn.

* Honking your horn is part of the driving culture in Lagos. It’s just a convenient way to let other drivers know that you do not trust their decision-making skills.

* The only person to trust on the road is you. Remind other drivers and pedestrians you don’t trust them by honking your horn loud and proud.

* Expect to get into screaming battles with pedestrians trying to cross the busy roads. Be careful because they may put juju on you.

* If you have any paraphernalia related to the Nigerian Police, Army, Air Force, or Military, then make sure it is displayed visibly for others to see. It will help you bypass those random police checkpoints.

* There is nothing random about a random check by the police. The police officers are skilled at sizing you up as you pull up. If you do get pulled over, make sure you have some loose cash (you know why) or a lot of time to spend arguing back and forth with them about random things like showing your permit for tinted windows.

* Non-injury accidents are taken care of at the scene of the accident. In essence, there is no veering off the road. Both drivers would more than likely step out of their vehicles and engage in a screaming match in the middle of traffic.

* Okada drivers always feel they have the right of way even when it’s obvious they don’t.

* Always lock your doors and wind up your windows as you drive, especially when stuck in stop-and-go traffic at night.

* One-ways are more like two or three ways. If the road can fit three cars why restrict it to just one car when three cars can go multiple directions? The unapologetic perpetrators are the Okada and Keke drivers.

* Okadas are like water. They find voids in traffic, unassigned lanes, sidewalks, and just flow through. Watch out for them.

* Many drivers liter. Watch out for trash flying out of vehicles in front of you.

Lastly, avoid anything called trailers, tankers with every bit of skill in you! These guys are called the king of the road, they can bash your car, SUV and heaven won't fall. Want to have a smooth ride? The fear of tankers and trailers is definitely the beginning of wisdom.

Makinde Accuses Ajimobi Of Awarding N7bn Road Project To ‘faceless’ Contractor
User Avatar Forum: General Discussion
Posted by: Edoman - 07-04-2019, 03:49 PM - No Replies

Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has accused his predecessor, Senator Abiola Ajimobi of awarding contracts to a contractor with an untraceable office address to the tune of N7 billion.

DAILY POST reports that the contract was for the construction of the Moniya-Iseyin Road, Ojedeji Village in Akinyele local government of the state.

The governor spoke yesterday after he embarked on a tour of the road leading to the Pacesetter Quarry and Asphalt plant, located at Km 25, Moniya-Iseyin Road.

He said that N2 billion of the total contract sum was paid to the unknown contractor.

Explaining his level of disappointment, the governor lamented that the road, which served as the economic route for farm and agricultural produce into the state, could be abandoned after the faceless contractor collected N2 billion, with little or nothing to show for it on the project site.

He said his effort at locating the site address of the contractor to interact with them on the level of work done despite the amount of money released, revealed that the given office address was not only untraceable but the name could not be ascertained.

Makinde said: “My impression of the work done so far if I will have to evaluate and cost it, couldn’t have been more than N150 million.

“It was a faceless contractor and we don’t even know where their offices are located. I could have stopped by to go discuss with them but there is nowhere to stop by,” he added.

Military parades 15 suspects for killing Alex Badeh

A 51-year-old suspect, Jibrin Ibrahim, and 14 others were on Wednesday paraded by the Joint Investigative Panel comprising of representatives of the Defence Headquarters, the police and the Department of State Services, over the murder of former Chief of Defence Staff, Air Chief Marshal Alex Badeh.

Two AK-47 rifles, two locally-made guns and other weapons were recovered from the suspects who confessed to collecting N2m ransom before releasing Badeh’s friend  Joseph Okpetu, who was in the same vehicle during the attack. It was learnt that the sim card used in negotiating Okpetu's release, belonged to 51-year-old Jibrin.

Usman, also known as Chiroma, said to be the gang leader who spoke to newsmen during the parade, revealed that he alongside 6 others attacked Badeh, whom they assumed to be a wealthy man and not a retired military officer. Recall that it was reported that Alex Badeh was shot dead by gunmen on December 18, 2018, while returning from his farm along the Abuja-Keffi Expressway in Nasarawa State.
Confessing to the attack, Usman said;
“It was a Friday and I came to the Gitata Market; I was the one who brought the job to the gang. I am a taxi driver. So, while I was driving to Panda village, in Nasarawa State, one Alhaji Maube Gani told me that there was one wealthy man, who owned a farm in that area and that we could make money from him. I told him I had never attacked any person in my life, but he said I should not worry.
“Then later on December 18, I drove my car out and Alhaji called me that the man had come to his farm as usual and that we should come to attack him. So, I called the other members and we met Alhaji in the Gitata area.
“At that stage of the operation, I did not know Badeh’s identity; none of us knew that the man was a military officer. There were seven of us, who participated in the operation. We just got to the road, shot the man and took away his friend.”
Also speaking to newsmen, Chairman of the Joint Investigation Committee, Maj. Gen. Bamidele Shafa, who stated that effort to arrest other members of the gang has intensified, disclosed that 20 suspects had been identified out of whom 15 had been arrested.
Shafa said, “After thorough investigation, the panel made the following findings; one, the attack and killing of ACM Alex Badeh was criminal and did not have any political undertone. Two, 20 persons were involved in the crime, out of which 15 have been arrested.
“The suspects in custody confessed to their direct involvement in the crime. They employed automatic weapons and locally-made guns in the killing of the air chief marshal. This was buttressed by the result of the autopsy and weapons recovered from the residences of the suspects. The suspects will be handed over to the appropriate agency for investigation and prosecution.”

Perhaps a better way to put it is, “How effective are Legendz XL’s elements for enhancing your performance in the bedroom.” Why is this distinction crucial? Due to the fact many of Legendz XL’s components—inclusive of l-arginine, diet B12, zinc, rhodiola root, ginseng, epimedium, and maca extracts—have their own list of benefits. But in ke Legendz XL eping with the available clinical proof, simplest l-arginine is “viable effective” for improving symptoms of erectile dysfunction (ED). The Federal Government has begun interrogation of those implicated in the alleged fraud that left over 65,000 Nigerian shareholders losing two billion dollars worth of shares.

According to NAN, those invited for interrogation were former minister of Budget and National Planning, Sen. Udo Udoma and his counterpart in the Ministry of Trade and Investment, Okechukwu Enelamah.

Chukwuemeka Obasi, the legal representative of a whistle-blower, disclosed this to newsmen on Wednesday in Abuja.

Obasi said that the General Managing Director of Union Bank Nig Plc, Mr Emeka Emuwa was also questioned.

According to him, the various representatives of all private and public institutions linked with the fraud were also invited and quizzed.
Obasi said the establishments mentioned in the petition included the Chapel Hill, National Security Exchange (NSE), Security Exchange Commission (SEC) and the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

The interrogation hinged on a petition reporting the alleged fraud submitted to the Attorney-General of the Federation, Mr Abubakar Malami, SAN, dated April 3, 2019.

The petition is titled “Official corruption, misuse of FGN USD two billion, fraud and unjust enrichment of persons who dispossessed more than 65,000 Nigerians and conferred ownership of the Bank on few Nigerians and their foreign accomplices’’.
The petition did finger former Central Bank Governor, the Emir of Kano, Alhaji Sanusi Lamido Sanusi II, under whose watch the alleged fraud was perpetuated.

Also accused of alleged complexities in the transactions were the two former ministers.

Enelamah was particularly fingered as the mastermind of the transaction by allegedly leading Africa Capital Alliance to form the Mauritius shell company to house Nigerians pretending to be foreign investors.

The transactions allegedly dispossessed Nigerian shareholders and investors in order to transfer ownership of the bank to a few persons including insiders, chieftains of competitor banks and others who would not pass CBN’s “fit and proper’’ test for bank ownership.

The petition claimed that Enelamah allegedly organised the registration of the offshore shell company in Mauritius called Union Global Partners Limited for the purpose of disguising the true majority ownership of Union Bank shares concealed in the offshore company.

The petition also alleged that the transactions commenced under Udoma’s supervision as Chairman of Security and Exchange Commission and sealed up when he became the Chairman of Union Bank of Nigeria Plc.

“The circumstances can best be described as official corruption and insider trading’’, the petition alleged.

The petition further alleged that Udoma and other officials illicitly granted a renewable five-year waiver to Union Bank of Nigeria to remain listed on the exchange in spite of being owned by a few private equity firms till today.

According to the petition, the alleged unlawful action is to ensure the more than 65,000 Nigeria former shareholders whose shares were diluted from 85 per cent to less than 15 per cent of public float to still be listed on Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE).

“It is to be recalled that 49% shares of Union Bank of Nigeria plc is now majority owned and controlled by London listed Atlas Mara, the investment company led by Robert Diamond Jr.

“Mr Diamond is a former Chief Executive Officer of Barclays Bank who was sacked for his involvement in manipulating Libor.

“Not only is Mr Diamond not a fit and proper person to own a bank according to the rules of Nigeria, he had also been blacklisted by the Bank of England as a result of the Libor manipulation.

“One wonders how the former CBN Governor, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi authorised the Union Bank change of ownership transaction and bridged it with USD two billion national patrimony, in spite of glaring evidence of fraud and the nature of the ultimate foreign owner who was already known and waiting in the wings.

Oil Marketers Get $3.6bn To Import Fuel – NNPC
User Avatar Forum: Oil/Gas
Posted by: Edoman - 07-04-2019, 10:08 AM - No Replies

The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) said the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) provided about $3.6 billion foreign exchange (FX) to oil marketers to import petroleum products into the country contrary to claims by the marketers that they had no access to FX for imports. The Chief Operating Officer, Downstream of the NNPC, Mr. Henry Ikem-Obih, said this yesterday at a panel session at the Nigerian Oil and Gas Conference and Exhibition in Abuja.

He said the claims by the marketers that their inability to import petroleum product was due to problems related to access to foreign exchange was not true. Although he did not mention the period the FX interventions were made, Obih said, “The truth is that the forex intervention scheme which was rolled out by CBN and co-managed by the NNPC has been extremely successful.”

“Since that scheme was set up, we have received applications from marketers for $7.2 billion worth of FX. In terms of actual disbursement, about 50 percent of the applications got funding. But the truth is that the FX that came through that scheme, especially for PMS, got potential funding for the majority of the applicants and FX was available to the marketers,” he said.

He said, however, that applications that came in for AGO (diesel), HHK (kerosene), ATK (aviation fuel) also got forex at 305 to a dollar. Daily Trust reports that private oil marketers were said to have stopped fuel importation in 2017 due to a shortage of foreign exchange and increase in crude prices, which they said had made it unprofitable to import petrol and sell same at N145 per litre.

RHAPSODY OF REALITIES

THURSDAY, 4TH JULY.

WE’RE ONE WITH CHRIST

And as he journeyed, he came near Damascus: and suddenly there shined round about him a light from heaven: And he fell to the earth, and heard a voice saying unto him, Saul, Saul, why persecutest thou me?And he said, Who art thou, Lord? And the Lord said, I am Jesus whom thou persecutest: it is hard for thee to kick against the pricks (Acts 9:3-5).

The scripture passage above is a clear reference to the inextricable oneness of Christ and the Church. Before his conversion, Saul wreaked havoc in the early Church and persecuted Christians everywhere, until he had an encounter with the Lord, who intercepted him and asked, “...Saul, Saul, why persecutest thou me?”

Jesus intimately identifies Himself with the Church. Read again, His words to the injurious Saul of Tarsus in our opening Scripture. The Master didn’t say, “Saul, why persecutest thou my followers?” Rather, He took it personal, because we’re of the same stock with Him. An attack on the Church is an attack on Jesus, because He’s the Vine, and we (the Church) are the branches. We have His very life; He brought us into union with Himself.

Always remember that anything you do for, or against the Church is unto Christ. Persecuting the Church is persecuting Jesus, because He’s the head of the Church: “And he is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead; that in all things he might have the preeminence” (Colossians 1:18). The head and the body go by the same Name—Christ! Thus, we’re members of the body of Christ.

Being born again, you’ve been baptized into the body of Christ. 1 Corinthians 12:27 says, “Now ye are the body of Christ, and members in particular.” As a member of the body of Christ, you don’t answer a name that’s different from that of the head or of the body, which is Christ. This is to help you see who you are, where you are, and what you have; you’re one with Christ.

When He was raised from the dead, you were raised up together with Him. Now that He’s seated on the throne, you’re seated together with Him in the place of dominion, glory and authority. Therefore, rule the world and dominate your environment with the glory of Christ!

CONFESSION

I’m seated together with Christ in the place of dominion, glory and authority, reigning and ruling over circumstances and situations, dominating my world by the power of the Holy Ghost! Glory to God forever!

FURTHER STUDY:

John 15:5 I am the vine, ye [are] the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.
Ephesians 5:29-30 For no man ever yet hated his own flesh; but nourisheth and cherisheth it, even as the Lord the church: For we are members of his body, of his flesh, and of his bones.

1 Corinthians 12:27 Now ye are the body of Christ, and members in particular.

#AFFIRMATIONTRAIN

4TH JULY.

Medview reintroduces three aircraft for steady operation

Medview Airline is stepping up its game to consolidate its position as one of the leading operators the country, its Managing Director Chief Executive Officer, Munner Bankole, has said.
Part of the strategy to regain its position, Bankole said, is the re- introduction of three aircraft into its fleet to boost its domestic operations.
The airline, he said, had secured credit facilities from a financial institution to undertake the maintenance of one of its aircraft at Aero maintenance base in Lagos.
Besides fixing of the aircraft, Bankole said other airplanes undergoing major maintenance in Israel and Estonia would soon be on ground in Lagos.

He said: “Medview airline is one of the airlines approved by the Federal Government for hajj operations. We have 17 states and we have covered 15, we signed a contract to airlift a lot of pilgrims for 2019. We got a loan from First bank so, we got the B777-200 aircraft for the company. The aircraft would be used to commence hajj operations in Kaduna by July 10 and we have a total of 10,600 pilgrims from Kaduna, we expect a turnaround in 2019.”

On domestic operations, Bankole said: “We have three classic aircraft, which are all due for C-check at the same time. One was in Israel, another was in Estonia and third was flying, but we got the money from the bank to put the second aircraft to use and so, it has been taken to Aero Maintenance base, I assure you that the third aircraft would soon be on ground because domestic operations is our major market, we promise to do more than expected.

He continued: “Expect a beautiful operations when the three aircraft would be fully operational soon and each aircraft would be yielding about N376 million in a month. We also assured you that we will not lease aircraft, therefore, we are working with a strategic partner in order to get a new aircraft into our fleet. Fifty cabin crew have already completed their recurrent training while 10 workers have been recalled to join the training in preparation for operations.”
Bankole, who disclosed that Medview has signed an agreement with Ethiopian Airline on maintenance of its B777 aircraft, explained that the company has disposed one of its aircraft because of huge maintenance cost.

“The management took a decisive response and disposed the aircraft for the benefit of the company. As I have always stated, the Board and management are continually seeking to achieved the best growth for the company and Medview is firmly on the path to improved performance, sustained growth, profitability and adequate returns to all stakeholders within the shortest possible period of time,” he said.

Pilots decry state of airports’ runways, other facilities
https://thenationonlineng.net/pilots-dec.../#comments

Nigerian pilots have raised the alarm over the poor state of runways in some airports. They are seeking urgent intervention from government agencies to avert accident.
Measures, they said, should be taken to clear the runways of foreign object damage (FOD), including debris at the airside, which affects aircraft tyre types and other underbelly components.

According to them, FOD was forcing airlines to loose millions of naira replacing aircraft tyres and other vital parts of their equipment.
Besides the deplorable state of the runway at airports in Port Harcourt; Lagos and Abuja, government they said, should urgently look into the poor state of radio communication in the airspace.

In separate interviews  Air Peace Chief Pilot,  Captain Victor Egonu; Med-View Airline Chief Pilot Captain Stephen Fevrier; Arik Air Safety Manager Captain Jide Bakare  and a retired pilot with the defunct Nigeria Airways Limited  Captain Prekeme Porbeni, said unless urgent steps are taken disaster was looming in the aviation industry.
According to Egonu, runways at some airports, including Enugu, Port Harcourt and Lagos are death traps during the rainy season because their surface are not properly drained.

He said pilots have continued to complain about the poor state of such facilities, which according to him, has been a big threat to air safety.
Egonu said: “Pilots in Nigeria complain very often about the surface of Port Harcourt Airport runway that it is always waterlogged and does not drain properly whenever it rains to allow for smooth landing because there are depressions which allow water to collect.”

“And if you fly into Enugu, it is so bad that Air traffic controllers have had to advise you that they are potholes and that stones jumping off could burst your tyres and pilots are usualy scared. We have airlines with torn tyres from this. At the Lagos airport runway 18L, we are now avoiding it whenever it rains because it doesn’t drain well and so we divert to land at runway 18R

“And even in Abuja recently our aircraft had a burst trye from an object it picked up after landing on the runway and this is very dangerous because if you pick up something from the tyre on the runway as it was the case of the Concord aircraft it could ignite fire once it reclines and makes contact with the fuel tank.”
He said airlines and pilots would appreciate if runways are constantly inspected by the relevant regulators to ensure that they are in line with standards that ensure safe flight operations.
Also, according to Fevrier, the government should fix the poor state of air navigation equipment in the airspace, as it is making it unattractive to some pilots to use the nation’s airspace.

The Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA), he said, should address the communication challenges being experienced by pilots to avert air accidents.
He said: “I came to Nigeria about 12 years ago and the first thing that we were told to learn as pilots is to say break-break when you get into the airspace and that is because the airspace is congested. I must say that the airspace is still congested and unsafe for pilots to fly.”
According to him, when flying from Lagos to Abuja pilots often lose contact with the Lagos control tower 200 miles into the airspace, which should not be the case.

He lamented that the same situation occured between Port Harcourt and Abuja, adding that pilots hardly communicate effectively with the control tower in Kano when coming into Nigerian airspace from Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

“In Kano, if you are coming from Jeddah to enter Nigerian airspace, you can’t speak to Kano. You have to wait until you get into an 100 miles into Kano most times.”
“We really have communication issues in the Nigerian airspace and that needs to be addressed urgently.”
Bakare on his part said the biggest issue pilots are grappling with is the problem of communication in the airspace. ”There are so many issues, but communication is one of the biggest challenges that we face as pilots in Nigerian airspace,” he said.
To Porbeni, it was not enough for government to initiate interventions to bridge gaps in air communication infrastructure, there should be outright elimination of such challenges in air navigation.

He wondered why the Total Radar Coverage of Nigeria (TRACON) that NAMA bragged about was not working. ”Pilots in recent times are undergoing serious challenges bordering on poor communication while flying in the Nigerian airspace.
“This is affecting the safety rating of our country compared with other nations around us, which have upgraded their systems in terms of air communication infrastructure,” he said.

He continued: “Repeatedly we kept on hearing the word; we have Total Radar Coverage. The answer is absolutely no. it is because any aeroplane or airborne machine flying in the Nigerian airspace can be detected, but there is lack of communication between the pilots in the airspace and the Air Traffic Controllers at the towers.”

Meanwhile, Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), spokesperson, Mrs. Henrietta Yakubu said the agency has commenced an intensive re-assessment of runways at the nation’s airports to forestall the potential accidents on the runways.

“It is, therefore, with the intention to increase the friction coefficient levels of our runways in accordance with NCAA advisory circular that the Authority is embarking on this exercise across the nation’s airports as the rain is becoming very heavy and unpredictable,” Yakubu said.
She explained that although, the regular friction measurement for Port Harcourt International Airport was conducted in March 2019 and the result fell within the minimum friction coefficient level, the airport however, still witnessed a skidding incident recently by an Air Peace aircraft. “As a short term measure to increase the safety of the Port Harcourt runway, the Authority just carried out a de- rubberisation exercise between June 15 to 22 , 2019 to remove any contaminant,” Yakubu added.

The Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) has assured airlines and other airspace users that the nation’s airspace is safe for seamless and economic air navigation. Its Managing Director, Capt. Fola Akinkuotu made these remarks while receiving the Chief Operating Officer of the newly established Ibom Air, Mr George Uriesi, who led a delegation to the agency’s headquarters in Lagos. He explained that the agency had taken drastic steps to tackle communication challenges, especially in the upper airspace in the past couple of years, saying that significant progress was being made in that direction.

Akinkuotu said NAMA has seen to the upgrading of communication infrastructure in phases. According to him, radio communication in the ground control, covering 65 nautical miles at the 32 air traffic control units in Nigerian airports is perfect and this was done under phase one of the project.

He added that the second phase, which is the tower control, also covering 65 nautical miles and critical for landing and takeoff, is perfectly working in all the 32 airports in the country. The third phase, which he referred to as “approach communication”, covering up to 130 nautical miles, is working perfectly in all the 32 air traffic control units in the country.

Akinkuotu admitted that although the last phase, which is the Area Control or Upper Airspace Communication, may have a few challenges, attributing them to the creation of new routes. Concerted efforts, he said, are being made to address these challenges. One of efforts was the deployment of the Total VHF Coverage of Nigeria in 2010, which he said was limited by the architecture of 8 VHF remote radio stations deployed then. He added that the agency has just taken delivery of Extended Range VHF radio systems to replace old the radios in eight remote sites while six more are to be added, making them 14.
“There is also the deployment of 54 VSAT nodes, in the Aeronautical Information Services Automation project. This project has lingered through all the regimes in NAMA, but we are currently making efforts to see to the final takeoff of the automation project, which we believe would boost our communication system,” Akinkuotu said.

The NAMA boss said in line with the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Aviation System Block Upgrade (ASBU), which stipulates that Air Navigation Service Providers (ANSPs) provide alternative means of communication, the agency in 2015 deployed the Automatic Dependent Surveillance-Contract/Controller Pilot Data Link Communication (ADS-C/CPDLC) in Kano and Lagos Area Control Centres (ACCs) to decongest radio frequency, adding that the facility has been up and running in the entire airspace.

In addition to the above, Akinkuotu said “the high-powered very high frequency (VHF) Jotron radios, installed at Lagos and Kano, were recently commissioned by the former Minister of State for Aviation, Hadi Sirika, who tested them with a British Airways pilot who replied him with 5/5, meaning: “excellent” and this facility is available and serviceable.

Equities continue decline

Nigerian equities continued on their losing streak as investors appeared to overlook new audited reports and accounts, dividend recommendations and prospects of interim dividends by many large-cap commercial banks. For the third consecutive trading session, benchmark indices at the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) closed negative.

The All Share Index (ASI)- the benchmark index that tracks share prices at the Exchange, declined by 0.07 per cent to close at 29,375.25 points as against its opening index of 29,395.14 points. Aggregate market value of all quoted equities dropped from its opening value of N12.957 trillion to close at N12.948 trillion, representing a drop of N9 billion. The continuing decline depressed the average year-to-date return to -6.54 per cent.

With 23 decliners to 16 advancers, the negative market situation was due to widespread selloffs, especially within the low-cap stocks. However, large-cap stocks lifted sectoral performances. The NSE Oil & Gas Index dropped by 0.7 per cent while the NSE Banking Index trailed with a drop of 0.6 per cent. Meanwhile, most sectoral indices closed on the upside. The NSE Industrial Goods Index rose by 1.7 per cent while the NSE Insurance Index and NSE Consumer Goods Index appreciated by 0.5 per cent each.

Mobil Oil Nigeria Plc, now 11 Plc, led the losers with a loss of N17 to close at N158. Dangote Cement followed with a drop of N2.90 to close at N177. Okomu Oil Palm and Total Nigeria declined by N2 to close at N62 and N148 respectively. Julius Berger Nigeria dropped by N1.95 to close at N19.95. Fidson Healthcare declined by 50 kobo to close at N4.55 while UAC of Nigeria lost 45 kobo to close at N6.10 per share.

On the upside, Unilever Nigeria led the gainers with a gain of N1.30 to close at N32. Lafarge Africa rose by 75 kobo to close at N13.25. Cement Company of Northern Nigeria added 50 kobo to close at N14.50. BOC Gases and C & I Leasing chalked up 41 kobo each to close at N4.54 and N5.50 respectively while Dangote Sugar Refinery and Oando added 30 kobo each to close at N11 and N3.95 respectively.

“Market performance was bearish and we expect this to be sustained in subsequent sessions as investor sentiment stays soft. However, we do not rule out the possibility of some end of the week bargain hunting as investors take advantage of attractive market prices,” Afrinvest Securities stated.

Total turnover stood at 237.71 million shares valued at N1.98 billion in 4,113 deals. Morison Industries was the most active stock with a turnover of 44.54 million shares worth N24.05 million. United Bank for Africa followed with 34.12 million shares valued at N209.6 million while Sterling Bank placed third with 32.09 million shares worth N72.11 million.

Analysts at Cordros Capital reiterated their conservative outlook for equities in the short to medium term citing “the absence of any drivers of market returns”.

Boeing Gives $100m To Help 737 Max Crash Families
User Avatar Forum: Market Place

[Image: _106238390_gettyimages-1136394061-594x594.jpg]

Boeing is giving $100m (£80m) to help families affected by the two crashes of the company's 737 Max planes in Indonesia and Ethiopia.

The payment, stretching over several years, is independent of lawsuits filed in the wake of the disasters, which together killed 346 people.

The money will support education and living expenses for families and community programmes, Boeing said.

Boeing's 737 Max has been grounded worldwide since March.

The loss of Ethiopian Airlines' flight ET302 in March was the second fatal accident involving a 737 Max in the space of five months. A near identical aircraft, owned by the Indonesian carrier Lion Air, went down in the sea off Jakarta in October 2018.

Crash investigators have focussed on the aircraft's control system and Boeing has been working with regulators to roll out a software upgrade. But there is still no date when the manufacturer's top-selling aircraft might be cleared to fly again.

Boeing said in a statement on Wednesday that the "funds will support education, hardship and living expenses for impacted families, community programs, and economic development in impacted communities. Boeing will partner with local governments and non-profit organizations to address these needs. This initial investment will be made over multiple years."

Dennis Muilenburg, the chairman and chief executive, added: "We at Boeing are sorry for the tragic loss of lives in both of these accidents and these lives lost will continue to weigh heavily on our hearts and on our minds for years to come.

"The families and loved ones of those on board have our deepest sympathies, and we hope this initial outreach can help bring them comfort," he said.

Nomi Husain, a Texas-based lawyer representing some of the families of victims of ET 302, said Boeing's payment "doesn't come anywhere close to compensating the families for what has been taken from them".

He told the BBC's transport correspondent Tom Burridge that "some of our clients are not interested in financial compensation at this point" and that Boeing "put profit over safety to get their number-one selling plane to market" - a claim the planemaker strongly denies.

Mr Husain has so far filed seven cases on behalf of families, with some of those lawsuits seeking damages of $276m. He estimated that about 50 lawsuits had so far been filed by victims' families.

Some families are waiting for further information about the technical causes of the crashes and how regulators cleared the 737 Max to fly before deciding on legal action, he said. But many others just want the truth, he added.

Falana reacts to suspension of Ruga settlements, tells Buhari what to do

Lawyer and activist, Femi Falana, has advised the federal government to replace the suspended Ruga settlement scheme with ranching.
Falana stated this, while reacting to the suspension of Ruga settlement by the federal government.

“As far back as 2016 the Buhari administration had opted for ranching.
“To actualise the ranching policy 11 states had made available 55,000 hectares of land.
“Ranching has also been adopted by the National Livestock Policy of the Buhari administration.

“What is now left is for the immediate implementation of the ranching programme,” Falana said in a statement.
Falana believed Ruga was suddenly introduced from the blues, by some fifth columnists in the administration.
He added: “Ruga should not just be suspended but cancelled completely by the federal government. It should be replaced with ranching funded by state governments and individual stakeholders with the assistance of the federal government.

“However if the federal government is interested in establishing ranches in the states, it should apply for building approval from the state governments because the supreme court has held that physical planning is not in the exclusive legislative list.”

Quote:The decision of the Federal Government to suspend the Rural Grazing Areas (RUGA) settlements for herdsmen has drawn reactions from some Nigerians.

The initiative, according the President Muhammadu Buhari, will address herders and farmers clashes across the nation.

State governors particularly from the southern part of the country rejected the plan. Some suggested that the initiative be established in the North while the South grow grass and send to the settlements in exchange of cows for consumption.

The government who said the initiative is optional for interested states has reportedly suspended the plan till further notice. The decision was reached after Mr Buhari met with some state governors on Wednesday.

Former Kaduna lawmaker, Shehu Sani, while reacting likened the move to that of a diffused landmine.

A man identified as Nader Harb, suffered a massive third-degree burn on his thigh after a spare battery for his vaping device exploded in his pocket.

He was reportedly setting up for the day at the butcher shop he works at when the LGHG2 battery in his right pocket burst into flames. According to his lawsuit filed against the battery maker LG Chem, Harb says he 'literally dropped to the ground, rolled, and put out the fire' before he realized it was his vape.
He was rushed to a hospital, where burn specialists treated him for second- and third-degree burns that took up most of this right thigh. Harb said the incident nearly killed him, and it was worse than being run over by a car.

'I mean, I got cut by machines, I got run over by a car, I've never seen pain like this' he said and has now filed a lawsuit against LG, the South Korean electronics company that owns the battery provider.

PDP summons Senator Elisha Abbo over assault

The National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has summoned Senator Elisha Abbo representing Adamawa North over a trending video showing him assaulting a woman.

A statement issued by the National Publicity Secretary of the party, Kola Ologbondiyan, said its attention had been drawn to the viral CCTV footage showing Abbo who ran for office on its platform, assaulting the lady in a sex shop in Abuja.

The statement said PDP, as a law-abiding and upstanding party, detested and completely condemned such act of lawlessness and callousness as exhibited in the video and will therefore never condone it.

Quote:“Our party is also shocked that the harmless victim of the unprovoked assault is said to be a nursing mother, who ought to be protected. Though this is personal conduct of an individual which has no bearing with the culture of our party, the PDP, however, holds that no responsible person will condone such an attitude.
“In the light of this, the NWC has commenced an investigation into the matter and summons Senator Elisha Abbo in line with the provisions of the Constitution of the PDP and code of conduct of our members. In the same vein, the party has taken note of the immediate action taken by the Senate.
“The PDP, at all levels of engagement, is reputed for her utmost respect and commitment towards the rights, safety and wellbeing of our citizens, particularly our women and cannot tolerate any callous assault on any Nigerian.” the statement read

Nahco eyes N35b turnover on new strategic growth plan

Nigerian Aviation Handling Company (Nahco) Plc will grow its top-line consistently over the next five years to reach a record N35.05 billion by 2023. The company also plans to grow its profit by 323.3 per cent to N2.13 billion in 2019 as the management of the company assured that ongoing strategic initiatives would deliver significant growths over the next five years.

The management of the company presented the underlying facts behind the operations of the company to capital market stakeholders yesterday at the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE).

Group Managing Director, Nigerian Aviation Handling Company (Nahco) Plc, Mrs Olatokunbo Fagbemi, said the company expects its revenue to rise steadily from N9.8 billion in 2018 to N13.27 billion in 2019 and consecutively to N16.916 billion, N21.567 billion, N27.495 billion and N35.054 billion in 2020, 2021, 2022 and 2023 respectively.
She outlined that the company would achieve a turnover of N13.27 billion in 2019 as against N9.88 billion in 2018 while profit before tax is expected to rise from N503 million in 2018 to N2.13 billion in 2019. Profit after tax is projected to rise to N1.81 billion.

She said new investment in ground support equipment, strategic investments in infrastructure and human capital development and improving operational efficiency at the airports would drive considerable growths this year and in the years ahead.
She assured the investing public that the company is confident of paying nothing less than 25 kobo dividend per share noting that the company expects to see significant impact of its transformation agenda on its performance as from the third quarter given the seasonal nature of the aviation business.
“We can assure you that we will achieve our targets in 2019. We believe we can achieve our forecasts. We had thought deeply about the figures and put everything in place to ensure we achieve the forecasts. We stand by the forecasts that we have and we believe we will achieve them,” Fagbemi said.

She pointed out that the company has already invested about N2 billion on new equipment and plans to increase such investment to more than N3 billion by the end of this business year.
She noted that new investments in equipment will particularly help to reduced operations cost, which were largely due to infrastructure failure at the airport and aging equipment that leads to increased maintenance cost.
She said with the injection of new ground support equipment and ongoing improvement of airport facilities, operating cost will reduce substantially, enabling the company to pass its steady revenue growth to shareholders.
According to her, Nahco has been well positioned to take advantage of the positive growth potential of the aviation industry in Africa and Nigeria as NAHCO, which controls 63 per cent of the Nigerian market, has remained preferred handler for the mail and cargo traffic in the country. Mail traffic increased by 19.96 per cent in 2018 compared with 2017 while international air cargo and domestic cargo rose by 3.5 per cent and 1.94 per cent respectively.
She said the company has continued to invest in various businesses to expand and diversify its revenue base and deliver improved returns to shareholders. In line with this, Nahco established Nahco Free Trade Zone Limited, the first airport based free trade zone in Nigeria. It also established Nahco Energy & Infrastructure Limited to tap into the opportunities in the power and infrastructure sectors of the economy. Another subsidiary, Mainland Cargo Options Limited seeks to harness opportunities of the air, land and sea logistics.

Fagbemi said the management of the company is not unmindful of the challenges in the operating environment such as liberalisation of the Nigerian market, increased competition, pricing pressures and business model obsolescence, the company has put enough measures in its growth plan to mitigate the possible risks and ensure stable growth in the years ahead.
She noted that while the company will in the immediate period support its growth with long-term loans, it may consider accessing the capital market to raise long-term funds to support its long-term growth.
She noted that the transformation agenda became necessary after a review of Nahco’s business process in December 2018 pointing out that the strategic pillars of the company’s growth plan are operational excellence, digital transformation, people and culture transformation, organic and inorganic growth and diversification.
Divisional Head, Listing Business, Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE), Mr. Olumide Bolumole, commended Nahco for providing capital market stakeholders with timely information about its financial performance, as well as its strategic and operational developments.
Bolumole, who represented the Chief Executive Officer of NSE, Mr Oscar Onyema, also commended Nahco on its transformation agenda which commenced in 2018 with an upgrade in the company’s facilities and purchasing of new ground handling and service equipment for business efficiency.
He noted that the company had also taken the right steps with its five-year strategy plan which aaimed at completely restructuring the organisation for business expansion.
“We implore the board and management of Nahco to also consider taking advantage of the various benefits that the Nigerian Stock Exchange provides for both capital formation and business expansion. At the Exchange, we continue to provide a platform to support listed companies in meeting their strategic business objectives,” Bolumole said.

LEKOIL eyes 20,000bpd with investments

Indigenous oil and gas firm, LEKOIL, yesterday said with its strategic investments this year, it hopes to ramp up production to 20,000 barrels per day (bpd) by adding  15,000bpd.

Its CEO, Olalekan Akinyanmi, said the priority of the oil major this year is to increase oil production.
“The priority for 2019 is to grow production volumes at Otakikpo through Phase Two development (subject to funding) to reach gross volumes of 15,000 to 20,000 bpd.  The first step has already occurred, with 3D seismic data acquisition and interpretation now completed,” he said in a note that accompanied its 2018 annual report which was released in late June.

At the Otakikpo field which is sited in a coastal swamp location in oil mining lease (OML) 11, production levels averaged approximately gross 5,345 bpd in 2018 even though LEKOIL only started drilling in the first quarter (Q1) of 2017. The company is determined to further exploit the asset to the benefit of all stakeholders in the next few years.

“Next (this) year should therefore provide key catalysts for value appreciation for shareholders as we move forward in building a leading Africa-focused exploration and production business,” Akinyanmi added.

LEKOIL’s 2018 financial results showed that it had lost significant ground in terms of profit, compared to 2017 when the young company’s profit stood tall at $6.5 million. Profitability in last year was not possible because of the immense investment that was undertaken within the year, as is common in the oil and gas industry.

“We also continue to advance towards- the start of the appraisal drilling programme on Ogo in OPL 310.  We will work with our joint-venture partner, Optimum to negotiate agreements that will allow us to make progress on the block, after securing all relevant regulatory extensions and approvals,” he said.

LEKOIL is an Africa focused oil and gas exploration and production company with interests in Nigeria and Namibia.
The firm was founded in 2010 by a group of leading professionals with extensive experience in the international upstream oil and gas industry as well as in global fund management and investment banking.

Nigeria sees $48billion energy investments

NIGERIA sees itself securing oil and gas investments worth $48 billion between 2018 and 2025, which is 25 per cent of a $194 billion surge of capital anticipated to flow into Africa during the eight-year period, the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) said yesterday.
“The nation’s energy outlook appears very positive even amidst the difficult operating and economic headwinds across the continent,” outgoing Group Managing Director, NNPC, Maikanti Baru, said at an oil and gas conference in Abuja “For Nigeria, therefore, oil and gas remain essential building blocks for our economic growth,” he added.

Crude output for Africa’s largest producer is currently in the region of 2.2 million to 2.3 million barrels per day (bpd), with reserves at 37.5 billion barrels, the second-biggest in Africa after Libya’s, according to Baru. Nigeria also has the ninth largest gas reserves at 201 trillion cubic feet and an estimated potential of 600 trillion cubic feet, he said.

These resources provide opportunities for investors and the government is determined to create the environment that will help drive the necessary investments in a sustainable manner, Baru said.

Given the growing local demand for petroleum products, the NNPC has undergone a shift in its business model to focus more on domestic refining of crude.
He said: “The recent fiscal challenge experienced by the nation places a burden for change. Hence, we have undertaken to broaden the base of investment sources.”
Baru, who will officially retire from the corporation on July 7, will be succeeded by Mele Kyari, the former Head, Crude Marketing Division of NNPC.

Stock Exchange suspends trading on 11 companies

The Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) yesterday suspended trading on 11 companies for failing to adhere to best corporate governance and extant post-listing requirements that make it mandatory for quoted companies to submit their financial statements within stipulated timelines.
The suspended companies included FTN Cocoa Processors Plc, Goldlink Insurance Plc, Guinea Insurance Plc, , Niger Insurance Plc, R.T. Briscoe (Nigeria) Plc, Resort Savings & Loans Plc, Lasaco Assurance Plc, Conoil Plc, Royal Exchange Plc, Standard Alliance Insurance Plc and Universal Insurance Plc.
In a circular signed by Head, Listings Regulation Department, Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE), Godstime Iwenekhai, the Exchange indicated that the companies were suspended after they failed to file their accounts and operational reports as required by the listing rules at the Exchange. The suspension will remain in place until the companies file the relevant accounts and reports.
With the suspension, investors will not be able to trade on the shares of the companies.

Post-listing rules at the NSE require quoted companies to submit their audited earnings reports, not later than 90 calendar days after the expiration of the period. The rules also require quoted companies to submit interim report not later than 30 calendar days after the end of the relevant period.      Not less than 83 per cent of quoted companies use the 12-month Gregorian calendar year as their business year. The business year thus terminates on December 31. While March 31 is usually the deadline for submission of annual report for companies with Gregorian calendar business year, the deadline for the quarterly report is a month after the quarter.
NSE tags and applies fines on companies that fail to meet earnings reports’ deadline. Companies may pay fines that range from N100, 000 to more than N100 million as penalties for delay in the submission of their corporate earnings reports. Companies that also delayed their financial statements and accounts face threats of suspension and delisting in addition to the monetary fines.

Update: IGP orders arrest of Senator Elisha Abbo for assaulting lady in an Abuja sex toy shop

The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mohammed Adamu, has ordered the arrest of Senator Elisha Abbo and his orderly. The senator was caught on camera assaulting a lady inside a sex shop in Abuja sometime in May with his orderly watching without protecting the lady.

The police boss gave the order following the public outcry after the assault video surfaced online.

Senator Abbo has reacted to the backlash he has so far received. In a chat with Channels TV today, Abbo accused his political enemies of trying to tarnish his image by using a doctored video from an event that happened before he was sworn into office. He claimed the owners of the sex toy shop showed an abridged version of what transpired. Read his account of what happened here.

RUGA Will Solve Security Challenges In Nigeria - Lalong.
User Avatar Forum: News
Posted by: Edoman - 07-03-2019, 02:17 PM - No Replies

Simon Lalong, Plateau State Governor, has appealed to Nigerians and other state governors to work with the Nigerian government in the creation of settlement farms for herdsmen saying it would solve economic and security challenges of the country.

He said this while speaking with State House correspondents after meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

Lalong, who claims Plateau is ready to give its land for the creation of the settlement said international organizations would be involved in financing the settlement.

He said, “This is a policy that we felt that it is not only for economic sense, but it would also address the issue of security. So if it is going to address insecurity in a period the country is confronted with serious security challenges then federal government would come and assist those who want to do it.

“They are not imposing it on any state, I am a member of this committee under the chairmanship of the Vice President, the federal government has not imposed that on any state.

“They said if you have land for pilot scheme they can assist, and donor agencies are coming from all over, it is not a federal government project, the World Bank is involved, the African Development Bank is involved.

“So if you have a scheme like this that can take poverty, bring revenue and also address insecurity, you will need to go into it but with due consultation from your state.”

He refuted claims that the Ruga settlement would favour a tribe over the other while asserting that it would totally put an end to clash between nomadic herdsmen and farmers.

“We did a lot of sensitization, in my state it took me three months to do sensitization and we all agreed that we should bring this concept to empower people. It is not meant to empower one tribe it is for everybody and that would address the issue of insecurity because we don’t want people moving from one place to another looking for grasses,” Lalong said.

Herdsmen: University Of Ilorin Invites DSS, Police To Protect School

University Of Ilorin Invites DSS, Police, Defence Corps To Prevent Herdsmen Attack

The Management of the University of Ilorin in Kwara has described herdsmen as a threat to the university's farms and therefore, threatened to prosecute anyone apprehended.

Prof. Bolaji Sule, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Management Services of the university made the disclosure in a meeting with some security agencies in Kwara State.

Sule said the university had met its commitment towards the herders but the issue of insecurity on its land persisted which necessitated the new strategy.

He added that the herdsmen posed serious threats to the university farms, dam site, hostels, academic environment and staff residence.

According to him, they used weapons to threaten staff and students as they committed theft of farm products and building materials.

The DVC also said that illegal farmers were not exempted from the prosecution if apprehended on the school property.

The Deputy Vice-Chancellor pointed out that the institution had plans to use its land but could not do it due to security challenges and stressed the need for security personnel to be proactive.

In his remarks, Dr Kameeludeen Azeez from the Faculty of Agriculture, expressed worry over the illegal activities of herdsmen in the university in spite of efforts to appease them.

“It is rather so pathetic that the university has spent so much money on relocating the herders, given them all they requested and we are still encountering this,” he said.

He said that the security agencies had been mandated to arrest trespassers in the university land to curb the threat, which some unruly herdsmen posed to the institution.

Mr. Yunus Alade-Saliu, a representative of the Directorate of State Services (DSS) in the state, assured the university of maximum security of staff and students in the area.

Alade-Saliu said that illegal farming and other illegal activities in the campus would no longer be treated with kid gloves.

Present at the meeting were the acting Chief Security Officer of the University, Mr Juel Ikubanni, the representatives of the DSS, Yunus Alade Saliu, the Nigeria Security Civil Defence Corps, Lawrence Sunday and Inspector Adams Mudashiru of the Nigeria Police, the News Agency of Nigeria reports.

Rivers government rejects RUGA settlements

Rivers State Government has stated that it will not participate in the planned settlements for herdsmen.

In a statement released and signed by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Information, Paulinus Nsiri, the government said the state has no land for the implementation of such a policy. It noted that in his second term as Governor, Nyesom Wike has prioritised commercial agriculture, hence all available arable land in the state would be needed to drive commercial agriculture across the state to create employment for Rivers youths.

The State Government emphasised that it has not given any approval for the siting of Ruga settlements anywhere in Rivers State and no such approval will ever come from the Rivers State Government.

The statement reiterated that the Governor would continue to defend the interest of Rivers people, who have overwhelmingly rejected Cattle Colonies, Ruga Settlements and any such policy.

Quote:“Rivers indigenes are hereby advised to join the State Government to protect all arable lands by reporting any form of encroachment under whatever guise”, the statement added.

Don’t try it, Ruga settlements will set Nigeria on fire – Soyinka

[Image: images?q=tbn:ANd9GcRqsmopI5hTs3wP9SY8mEL...fMYoEd7rV6]

Nobel Laureate, Prof Wole Soyinka, has warned the Federal Government against the proposed establishment of Ruga settlements across the country for herdsmen.

Speaking at the launch of United Nations’ Solutions 17 SDG programme in Lagos on Tuesday July 2nd, Soyinka said the creation of RUGA settlements for herdsmen if not checked, will cause Nigeria to explode.

Quote:“RUGA is going to be an explosion if not handled with care. But why do we not take our policies from good models? This is not the way people and countries deal with issues of cattle.
“I travel everywhere. It has to be handled in a way that is logical, comprehensible to the environment. When a cattle walks up to the window of my house in Abeokuta, a house which is located in a residential area, then there’s a problem. When cattle go to Ijebu Ode and eat up their plant seedlings and so on and you expect people to be quiet?”
He added that the manner in which President Buhari handled reports of the herdsmen attacks, was enough to have made him lose his re-election.
Quote:“President Buhari deserved to have lost the last election for the lackadaisical attitude he took to the issue of cattle rearing in the country.
“People have been killed in hundreds just because of the failure of leadership at a critical time. And the cattle herders have been given a sense of impunity. They kill without any compunction, they drive away the farmers who have been contributing to the food solutions in the country, the cattle eat their crops and then you come up with Ruga.
“I think that there is going to be trouble in this country if this Ruga thing is not handled imaginatively and with humanity as a priority. Any country where cattle takes priority over human life is definitely at an elementary stage,” he said.

Update: Photo of the 2-year-old girl eaten by crocodiles on her family's farm

Police in Cambodia has released the photo of the two-year-old girl eaten by crocodiles on her family’s farm in Siem Reap province’s Siem Reap city, Cambodia on Sunday,  after she wandered off into the enclosure alone.

Captain Chem Chamnan, municipal deputy police chief, identified the victim as Rom Roath Neary. She was found dead at her family’s crocodile farm in Siem Reap city at 10am on Sunday  morning.

“Her father only found her skull in the crocodile enclosure, where she was killed by crocodiles,” he said.

The mother is pictured holding the skull of the girl after it was picked up from the crocodile farm.

Lieutenant Och Sophen, chief of Siem Reap commune police, said that on the day of the incident, the girl was home with her mother.

Lt Sophen noted that the family had recently welcomed a newborn baby. As the mother was busy taking care of the baby, she lost sight of her elder daughter, he added. When the father came home at 10am, he found his daughter’s skull in the crocodile enclosure, he said.

“When he came back home, he couldn’t find his daughter in the house,” Lt Sophen said. “He found a skull in the crocodile enclosure. He confirmed that the daughter fell into the crocodile enclosure and that the crocodiles killed her, leaving only her skull.”

Lt Sophen noted that the family had built a fence around the farm, but children could still fit through them.

“His farm is located behind the house, and the small girl came to play around and fell in while her mother was busy taking care of another daughter, who had just been born,” Lt Sophen said.
“We convey our condolences to the family. The mother hugged her daughter’s skull in shock,” he added. “We appeal to all families who have crocodile farms to pay attention to all family members, especially small children.”

RHAPSODY OF REALITIES

WEDNESDAY, 3RD JULY.

CHILDREN OF THE WORD

Ye are our epistle written in our hearts, known and read of all men (2 Corinthians 3:2).

Every Christian is born of the Word; meaning, we’re children of the Word. The Bible says, “Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever” (1 Peter 1:23). So, you’re the Word in flesh!

This is what the Apostle Paul meant by us being “living epistles.” In 2 Corinthians 3:3, he said, “Clearly you are an epistle of Christ, ministered by us, written not with ink but by the Spirit of the living God, not on tablets of stone but on tablets of flesh, that is, of the heart” (NKJV). Today, anyone who wants to see the Word of God should look at you, for you’re the epistle of Christ! This is what the Church is—the Word in flesh!

The Lord Jesus was the Word of God tabernacled in human flesh. He was the epistle of God. He was the love-letter sent to the world by God. The Bible says in John 1:14 that the Word became flesh and dwelt among us.

The same Word that became flesh gave birth to us: “Of his own will begat he us with the word of truth, that we should be a kind of firstfruits of his creatures” (James 1:18). We’re the offspring of the Word. We were born in the realm of the spirit to be like Jesus through the Word. Glory to God!

Your life is the life of the Word. You’re not an ordinary person. You may look like everyone else, but you’re different. You’re God’s message—His Word! Therefore, never look down on yourself.

You’re not born of the corruptible seed of man, but of God’s incorruptible seed. This is the reason the life in you is the God-life; it’s the life of the Word. 1 John 4:4 says, “Ye are of God…,” meaning you’re born of God; you hail from Him; and God and His Word are one. Hallelujah!

CONFESSION

My life is for the glory of God. I’m not an ordinary person, for I’m a living epistle, written not with ink, but with the Spirit of the living God, known and read of all men. Through me, many are coming to the knowledge of Christ, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.

FURTHER STUDY:

2 Corinthians 3:3 [Forasmuch as ye are] manifestly declared to be the epistle of Christ ministered by us, written not with ink, but with the Spirit of the living God; not in tables of stone, but in fleshy tables of the heart.

2 Corinthians 3:18 But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, [even] as by the Spirit of the Lord.

James 1:18 AMPC And it was of His own [free] will that He gave us birth [as sons] by [His] Word of Truth, so that we should be a kind of firstfruits of His creatures [a sample of what He created to be consecrated to Himself].

#TALKINGSESSION

3RD JULY.

KINDLY SAY THESE WORDS OUT LOUD

Dear Father, You’re my hope, my strength, and the very foundation of my existence. You’re my light and my salvation. Your Word on my lips brings life to hopeless and dead situations. Thank you for the opportunity of being regularly exposed to the ministry of Your Word. At every of such opportunities, my heart is set in order, fully prepared to receive the Word joyfully, without doubts
or unbelief. My heart is completely available to You for the expression of Your glory in my life.

Thus, I am established on the path of success, righteousness and glory forevermore. Today, I take advantage of Your grace and might in fulfilling my destiny in You. I am continually energized, growing from strength to strength, by Your Spirit in my inner man, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.

God bless you

In 2003, Ojukwu and I agreed Nigeria must remain as one Says Buhari
[Image: images.jpeg]
President Muhammadu Buhari says he and Chukwuemeka Ojukwu, the late Igbo leader, agreed that Nigeria must remain as one.
Ojukwu led the secessionist state of Biafra from 1967 to 1970. Some groups in the south-east are agitating for the restoration of the state.
In a state broadcast on Monday, Buhari said he and Ojukwu discussed and analysed the problems of Nigeria when the late Igbo leader visited him in Daura in 2003, and that they came to the conclusion that the country must remain united.
The president also decried the spread of hate messages on social media.
“In the course of my stay in the United Kingdom, I have been kept in daily touch with events at home. Nigerians are robust and lively in discussing their affairs, but I was distressed to notice that some of the comments, especially in the social media have crossed our national red lines by daring to question our collective existence as a nation. This is a step too far,” he said in his speech.
“In 2003 after I joined partisan politics, the late Chief Emeka Ojukwu came and stayed as my guest in my hometown Daura. Over two days we discussed in great depth till late into the night and analysed the problems of Nigeria. We both came to the conclusion that the country must remain one and united.”

Popular dancer, Kafayat Shafau, otherwise known as Kaffy, has condemned the controversial dance step, Soapy, popularised by musician, Azeez Fashola aka Naira Marley.
The dance step, which is done by imitating the act of masturbation, was demonstrated in a video posted by Naira Marley last week.
Reacting to the dance step, however, Kaffy, who is a Guinness World Record holder in dance, said on Instagram, “I am sorry; I can’t take this. I have never seen a more disgusting, immoral dance like the so-called Soapy. It should never be encouraged. I am really disappointed.

“As dancers we should speak for what is right. We shouldn’t encourage this for the sake of trending especially when it is not even censored from kids. To an adult, it is even offensive. Rubbish!”

General manager John Dorsey wisely chose Olivier Vernon

over Minnesota’s offer of DE Everson Griffen." />Skip to main contentclockmenumore-arrownoyesHorizontal - WhiteDawgs EDTShareTweetShareShareBrowns reportedly turned down Vikings trade offer for Kevin ZeitlerBrace Hemmelgarn-USA TODAY SportsThe Cleveland Browns were able to bolster their pass rush by trading for defensive end Olivier Vernon in March. But Vernon might still might be a member of the New York Giants if the Minnesota Vikings had gotten their way.According to Andrew Krammer of The Star-Tribune Cleveland Browns T-Shirts , the Browns were in discussion with the Vikings about trading guard Kevin Zeitler to Minnesota in exchange for defensive end Everson Griffen:It is not clear who initiated the trade talks, but Browns general manager John Dorsey looks to have made the right call by acquiring Vernon, who is 28 years old and coming off a season where he earned a grade of 86.3 last season from Pro Football Focus, over Griffen, who is 31 and earned a grade of 68 from PFF last season.Speaking of Vernon, who has two years left on the five-year deal he signed with the Giants in 2016, Monday Morning Quarterback’s Andy Benoit had an interesting note in his article about the Browns draft needs. According to Benoit, the Browns may be looking for a defensive end in the upcoming draft so that Dorsey will have the flexibility to release Vernon after just one year in Cleveland:While there has been some chatter about Vernon being a candidate for a re-structured contract at some point https://www.brownsfanshop.com/hats , this is the first time we’ve seen someone float out the idea of Vernon being a one-and-done player with the Browns.According to spotrac.com, Vernon carries a salary of $15.5 million in each of the next two seasons, but there is no dead money that would hit Cleveland’s cap space if Vernon were to be released. It seems a bit of a stretch to think that Dorsey would cut Vernon after just one season, especially since it cost the Browns one of the league’s best guards to acquire Vernon. More likely, the Browns will look to work out a new deal with Vernon that will give him some more financial security.   The NFL descends on Texas today as the Wild Card

playoffs begin the road to Super Bowl LII. Both NFL teams in the state of Texas get to host postseason games Lance Kendricks Color Rush Jersey , starting with the Houston Texans this afternoon and finishing up with the Dallas Cowboys this evening.Houston hosts a divisional rival, as the Indianapolis Colts made the postseason as the AFC’s sixth and final seed. It took them a week 17 win on Sunday Night Football to get there, but Indy has made quite a turnaround thanks to a healthy Andrew Luck and a new head coach in Frank Reich. Furthermore, a great draft set them up well on defense as they try to make the Divisional round for the first time since 2014.The Cowboys, meanwhile, host the Seattle Seahawks, who surpassed most expectations in 2018. Many writers expected Seattle to drop off following an apparent purge of defensive personnel, but here they are at 10-6 and holders of the fifth seed in the NFC. Can the Cowboys’ solid defense keep Russell Wilson and Chris Carson in check? The team has been outscored 173 to 125 in those six games, and despite some close contests and near-comebacks, they have made crucial mistakes late in games to throw away their chances of remaining in the NFC playoff hunt.As rumors about Mike McCarthy’s job status continue to swirl, a few of his former players took to Twitter to reminisce about how he handled a similarly disappointing season a decade ago. The 2008 Packers finished their season 6-10, thanks in large part to a defense that frequently gave up leads late in games. That team actually outscored its opponents by 2.4 points per game, but could not close out games when they had late leads, eventually leading to the firing of defensive coordinator Bob Sanders, who was replaced by Dom Capers. That year, the Packers lost each of their final five road games, finishing 1-7 away from Lambeau Field. Defensive back and return man Will Blackmon got the conversation started during Sunday night’s 24-17 victory by the Minnesota Vikings, thinking back to when McCarthy apparently refused to allow his team to have good accommodations when they traveled. For those unfamiliar, The First 48 is a true crime television show on A&E that focuses on homicide investigations.Blackmon specifically mentioned former Packers teammates James Jones and Charles Woodson above J'Mon Moore Color Rush Jersey , and the two piped up to concur with his sentiments a little later:Ryan Grant, who rushed for over 1,200 yards that season, also got in on the fun:The Packers apparently did get to stay in a nicer place before their fifth and final consecutive road loss, however:And then there’s linebacker Brady Poppinga, who had a very different take on the hotel situation during that season:Still, Blackmon has a sense of humor about the whole situation. He correctly noted after the discussion that the Packers went out and won Super Bowl XLV two seasons later — and said that the players actually got a kick out of that policy at the time. He also said that he “loved” McCarthy, so clearly he does not hold any ill will towards his former head coach.Regardless, it’s interesting to see former Packers discussing McCarthy when he is clearly fighting for his job.

CHICAGO — The Cincinnati Reds have given the Chicago Cubs fits all season. But just when Reds appeared on the verge of winning their sixth straight game against the reigning National League Central champions David Montgomery Jersey , the Cubs turned to a familiar ally.
The comeback.
The Cubs twice rallied from five runs down on Saturday to pull out an 8-7 victory. They will head into Sunday’s matinee at Wrigley Field with a chance to capture the series. Having staff ace Jon Lester on the mound certainly won’t hurt.
Lester will take his 11-2 record and 2.25 ERA into the start a day after the Cubs produced four eighth-inning runs for their dramatic win.The Cubs’ last eight wins all have come after they fell behind early.
“I love the fight,” Cubs manager Joe Maddon told reporters after the team’s 50th win of the season. “Both sides wanted to win (and) we got it in the end.
“We’ve been in this situation all week.”
Added Cubs second baseman Javier Baez, who homered in the seventh inning before the Cubs mounted their latest comeback: “We never quit.”
The rally stunned the Reds, who appeared in line for their sixth win in their last seven games and their 15th in the past 19. Instead, Lester will take the mound in search of his eighth straight victory.
Lester was named NL Pitcher of the Month in June and is tied for the league lead in victories. Lester, who has won seven straight starts dating to May 23, will look to keep rolling against the Reds, against whom he is 6-1 in 14 starts.
In Lester’s last start — an 11-10 victory over the Minnesota Twins — he added an extra bonus — a solo home run. But Lester, who has struggled traditionally from the plate, won’t get too wrapped up in the excitement.
“If I get hits, I get hits,” Lester told reporters after his last outing on July 1. “The home run is awesome, it’s cool, especially at home. But at the end of the day Riley Ridley Jersey , I know I’m a pitcher and I’m not a hitter.”
The Cubs, who are playing without third baseman Kris Bryant — whom Maddon said will begin a minor league assignment soon — may be without right fielder Jason Heyward. He left Saturday’s loss in the third inning after fouling a ball off his groin.
The Reds enter Sunday’s series finale looking for their sixth straight series. But after Cincinnati touched up Cubs starter Tyler Chatwood for seven runs only to see Jared Hughes surrender a three-run lead, the Reds will attempt to regain their winning ways after Saturday’s shocker.
Cincinnati’s bullpen had, until Saturday, been able to protect late leads, which made Saturday’s loss so unfathomable. It marked only the third time this season the Reds lost after leading heading into the eighth inning.
“We’ve come back on a few clubs like that,” Reds interim manager Jim Riggleman told reporters, according to the Cincinnati Enquirer. “Today, (the Cubs) did it to us.”
Luis Castillo (5-8, 5.53) will start Sunday for the Reds and will attempt to bounce back from a disappointing June. He finished the month 1-3 and allowed at least three earned runs in each of his five outings. Castillo is 1-0 with a 2.16 ERA in three career starts against the Cubs.
Long after the Detroit Tigers broke the game open, JaCoby Jones made the play of the day.
Maybe even the play of the year in the Comerica Park outfield.
Jones’ twisting, backhanded catch in the sixth inning took a home run away from Adrian Beltre in Detroit’s 7-2 victory over the Texas Rangers on Saturday.
The Tigers scored all their runs in the first, chasing Cole Hamels before that inning was over. It was still 7-0 when Jones made his spectacular catch in left-center field.
Beltre’s drive was headed toward the Texas bullpen, but Jones came over from center and jumped Greedy Williams Jersey , reaching over the wall with his left hand and backhanding the ball. Jones’ momentum spun him around a bit, and he fell forward onto the ground, holding on for the out.
”You have to time it,” Tigers manager Ron Gardenhire said. ”As you saw, his whole arm went over the fence, and he snagged it behind. It’s a timing thing, and you have to be athletic to be able to do some of those things.”
Jones did not stay in the clubhouse to talk to reporters afterward.
Hamels (4-8) retired only two batters for the Rangers in his shortest start since 2010.
Mike Fiers (6-5) allowed a run and five hits in six innings. He struck out six with one walk.
Rougned Odor hit a solo homer for Texas immediately after Beltre was robbed by Jones. Shin-Soo Choo doubled twice for the Rangers to extend his on-base streak to 46 games, tying Julio Franco’s club record set in 1993.
Niko Goodrum had four hits for the Tigers.
Nicholas Castellanos opened the scoring with a solo homer with one out in the first. John Hicks added an RBI single, and Jose Iglesias hit an infield single with two outs and the bases loaded to make it 3-0.
Hamels still would have made it out of the inning, but center fielder Delino DeShields misplayed a line drive by Jones for an error , allowing three more runs to score.
”It just knuckled on me,” DeShields said. ”I was trying to stay with it, but it swerved on me at the last second. It’s frustrating, because you are doing everything you can to make the play Sione Takitaki Jersey , but he hit it right on the screws and right at me, and that’s when a ball will take off on you.”
Mikie Mahtook followed with an RBI double, and Hamels was replaced after allowing five hits, two walks and three earned runs. He threw 41 pitches.
LOOKING BACK
It was the shortest start for Hamels since June 1, 2010, when he also lasted two-thirds of an inning for Philadelphia at Atlanta. That start was shortened because of a rain delay.
Hamels had gone at least five innings in each of his first 17 starts this year.
”By the time he gave up the double, he was pushing 40 pitches, and that’s my limit,” Texas manager Jeff Banister said. ”Once you get to 40 in one inning, you are pitching fatigued, and it is too much of a risk to leave him out there. I’m not going to do that to one of my pitchers.”
ON A ROLL
Goodrum had his second four-hit game in a week. He also went 4 for 4 at Toronto on July 1.
He’s hitting .464 (13 for 28) over his last seven games.
”I didn’t know that,” he said. ”The only stats I can see is what they show on the board of everyone.”
TRAINER’S ROOM
Rangers: SS Elvis Andrus appeared to foul a pitch off his left leg in the fifth but remained in the game. He was taken out in the eighth.
UP NEXT
Michael Fulmer (3-7) takes the mound for Detroit against Austin Bibens-Dirkx (1-2) in the series finale Sunday.
