Nigerian Breweries Plc will list its ongoing N15 billion commercial papers issuance on the FMDQ OTC Securities Exchange to provide investors opportunity to trade on their holdings.
The brewer is offering 90-day and 182-day CPs to investors with a view to raising short-term funds for its operations. The issuance is part of the company’s N100 billion CP programme.
The 90-day CPs carry effective and discount yields of 11.590 per cent and 11.2680 per cent respectively while the 182-day CPs carry 14.430 per cent and 13.4614 per cent respectively. Both issuances have been rated Aa by Agusto and AA by Global Credit Rating (GCR).
The Series 1 90-day CPs are expected to mature on Monday July 22, 2019 while the Series 2 182-day CPs will mature on Tuesday, October 22, 2019. The offers opened on Thursday, April 11, 2019 and will close on Thursday, April 18, 2019. The settlement date is Tuesday, April 23, 2019.

In a statement at the weekend, Company Secretary and Legal Director, Nigerian Breweries Plc, Uaboi Agbebaku said the new CP programme would support the company’s cost management and complement traditional sources of financing to include non-bank financing options.
He said the CPs also provide opportunity for non-equity investors to invest in the company.
He noted that following the success of the company’s first N100 billion CP programme between 2015 and 2018, the board of directors of the company had approved a new N100 billion programme last July.

CCNN posts N5.7b net profit

Cement Company of Northern Nigeria (CCNN) Plc grew its net profit by 77 per cent to N5.7 billion in 2018.
In its first report since the merger with Kalambaina Cement Company, CCNN’ turnover rose by 62 per cent to N31.7 billion. Earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization ( EBITDA) rose by 86 per cent to N7.9 billion.
The top-line growth was due largely to increased domestic sales and exports. Overall, CCNN produced 0.76 million metric tonnes of cement and sold over 0.74 million metric tonnes, an increase of about 59 per cent. Sale of cement in Nigeria rose by 49 per cent to N28.9 billion while exports jumped from N0.2 billion in 2017 to N2.9 billion in 2018. Earnings before interest and taxes rose by 86 per cent to N7.9 billion profit before tax increased by 81 per cent to N7.6 billion.
While the merger was completed in fourth quarter of 2018, the management elected to report the performance of the merged entities as if the merger took place at the start of the year. Consequently, earnings per share shrunk by 83 per cent to 44 kobo as shares outstanding jumped over nine times to 13.1 billion units.

The board of directors of the company has recommended payment of a dividend per share of 40 kobo, representing some 92 per cent of the net earnings per share.
The management of the company stated that it plans to extend product distribution to the northeast and central regions of Nigeria, as it does not expect the northwest of the country to absorb the company’s current, larger 2.0 metric tonnes capacity.
There are however predictions that CCNN will record significant upside to its net income in 2019 and beyond upon approval of pioneer status by the Nigerian Investment Promotion Commission (NIPC) and a moderate chance of CCNN receiving approval on the new line.
Heidelberg Cement Group had in 2008 divested its majority equity stake in CCNN to Damnaz Cement Company Limited, a Nigerian company. In 2010, BUA International Limited acquired Damnaz Cement Company Limited and became indirectly the majority shareholder in CCNN and its technical partner. CCNN currently operates as a subsidiary of BUA International Limited

NSE to use blockchain, new technologies for capital raising

[Image: Nigerian-Stock-Exchange-NSE--640x375.jpg]

The Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) is exploring the use of innovative technologies like Blockchain and Distributed Ledger Technology (DLT) as means of raising capital as part of the efforts to align the capital market with emerging financial technologies (fintech).
Blockchain and DLT allow transfer and sharing of digital data across multiple sites without a central storage or administrator.
NSE Chief Executive Officer Mr Oscar Onyema said the Exchange is considering creating alternative and innovative platforms for capital raising through the use of new technologies such as Blockchain and DLT.
He said fintech offers opportunity to deepen the capital market and also achieve sustainable economic growth by empowering a larger portion of the populace to access financial services while simultaneously unlocking efficiencies in product and service delivery for financial institutions as well as increasing transparency and resilience of the Nigerian capital market and larger financial ecosystem.

Onyema pointed out that while the NSE is focused on delivering on its mandate to be Africa’s Preferred Exchange Hub, the bigger picture for the Exchange is to create a dynamic marketplace that fuels growth and empowers people towards excellence in business and ventures.
He said the Exchange has also demonstrated its supports for fintechs and start-ups with the introduction of the growth board of the Exchange, which caters for companies with high growth prospects, especially fintechs emerging from venture capital management to a more mature management that would require public investment and corporate consolidation.
He added that with the support from the Exchange, companies with high growth potential will be able to leverage public finance for growth and expansion.
Onyema, who spoke at a fintech event hosted by the NSE, said the theme of the event: Growth Funding and Strategic Capital Raise – Extending Financial Inclusiveness through the Capital Market” is of particular interest to the Exchange due to its connection to its core function as a hub for accessing capital.
According to KPMG’s “2018 Global Analysis of Investment” equity investment into global FinTech companies almost tripled from $18.9 billion to $50.8 billion between 2013 and 2017; and has continued to gain traction.
“The global picture of capital flow into fintechs especially in emerging markets is proof that FinTechs are important economic catalysts in the 4th Industrial Revolution. Surprisingly, foreign investors seem to be seeing these gains better than local investors as statistics show that they have dominated capital raise for indigenous start-ups in the last couple of years,” Onyema said.

A Ugandan feminist and lecturer, Stella Nyanzi, has been jailed over a poem she wrote about Vagina and shared on Facebook in September, 2018.

The poem written by the Ugandan feminist was directed at the Ugandan President, Yoweri Museveni, describing his birth and his mother’s vagina.

Stella who was arraigned before Buganda Road Court, was charged with "cyber harassment and offensive communication".

She was accused of intending to disturb the peace and privacy of President, Yoweri Kaguta Museveni and his mother the late Esteeri.

The academic had stated that she has no case to answer and pushed for her immediate release, but the judgement wasn't in her favour.

Governor Obaseki to probe Adams Oshiomhole over hospital contracts

Governor Godwin Obaseki has set up a commission of enquiry to probe the contract for the construction of structures and supply of equipment to Benin Central Hospital, awarded by the administration of Adams Oshiomhole.

The commission will be working to ascertain if details of contracts awarded by the APC Chairman were strictly followed, especially the quality of materials, and also determine the extent of irregularities regarding the purchase of equipment among others.

Governor Obaseki's spokesperson Cruise Osagie in a statement released on Sunday, said the probe was initiated after numerous calls for the Edo State government to look into the contracts in which billions of taxpayers’ money were expended on poorly executed projects under the regime of Adams Oshiomhole.

Quote:“The state government will investigate allegations of fraud and irregularities with the contract for procurement of the hospital equipment. The contractors who handled the building had questions to answer, including the shoddy jobs done, among others,” he said.

Aside questioning the contractors for the alleged shoddy job, Osagie also disclosed that individuals contracted to procure the hospital equipment will be called to hear their side of the story.

Lecturer jailed after writing a poem about 'Vagina'

Stella Nyanzi, a Ugandan feminist and lecturer has been jailed over a poem about 'Vagina' she wrote and shared on Facebook in September.

The Ugandan feminist in the poem,  used a graphic description of the birth of the Ugandan President, Yoweri Museveni, and his mother’s vagina to criticize his “oppression, suppression and repression” in the country. Stella who was arraigned before Buganda Road Court, was charged with "cyber harassment and offensive communication". She was accused of intending to disturb the peace and privacy of President, Yoweri Kaguta Museveni and his mother the late Esteeri.

The poem she wrote, read;

Quote:Yoweri, they say it was your birthday yesterday.
How bitterly sad a day!
I wish the smelly and itchy cream-coloured candida festering in Esiteri’s cunt had suffocated you to death during birth.
Suffocated you just like you are suffocating us with oppression, suppression and repression!

Yoweri, they say it was your birthday yesterday.
How painfully ugly a day!
I wish the lice-filled bush of dirty pubic hair overgrown all over Esiteri’s unwashed chuchu had strangled you at birth.
Strangled you just like the long tentacles of corruption you sowed and watered into our bleeding economy.

Yoweri, they say it was your birthday yesterday.
How nauseatingly disgusting a day!
I wish the acidic pus flooding Esiteri’s cursed vaginal canal had burnt up your unborn fetus.
Burnt you up as badly as you have corroded all morality and professionalism out of our public institutions in Uganda.

Yoweri, they say it was your birthday yesterday.
How horrifically cancerous a day!
I wish the infectious dirty-brown discharge flooding Esiteri’s loose pussy had drowned you to death.
Drowned you as vilely as you have sank and murdered the dreams and aspirations of millions of youths who languish in the deep sea of massive unemployment, and under-emplyment in Uganda.

Yoweri, they say it was your birthday yesterday.
How traumatically wasted a day!
I wish the poisoned uterus sitting just above Esiteri’s dry clitoris had prematurely miscarried a thing to be cast upon a manure pit.
Prematurely miscarried just like you prematurely aborted any semblance of democracy, good governance and rule of law.

Yoweri, they say it was your birthday yesterday!
How morbidly grave a day!
I wish that Esiteri’s cursed genitals had pushed out a monstrously greenish-bluish still-birth.
You should have died at birth, you dirty delinquent dictator…
You should have died in birth, Yoweri Kaguta Museveni.

…….
If you want to beat me for my heartfelt birthday poem, come and find me at my home. Ask the bodabodamen to direct you to Mama Stella’s house with a red gate. I refuse to be gagged!

The academic had stated that she has no case to answer and pushed for her immediate release, but the judgement wasn't in her favour. Her request for the court to summon 20 defense witnesses, including President Yoweri Museveni himself was also turned down.

Nyanzi who is battling three other legal cases: another "cyber harassment and offensive communication" trial for a poem calling the President a "pair of buttocks," which she took bail for; a civil dispute with her former employer Makerere University, who dismissed her for staging a naked protest; and a case disputing her inclusion on Uganda's "no-fly" list initiated by her critical Facebook commentary, is still being held at Luzira prison where she has been since November 2018.

Buhari’s education policy is wicked and criminal - ASUU

The Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU has accused the All Progressives Congress government of delibrately starving public education of funds.

The academic body in its statement on Sunday, described President Muhammadu Buhari’s policy on education as anti-masses as it stated that the withheld funds was aimed at denying the Nigerian youths the right to know and challenge misrule.

Lamenting that the sacrifices of understaffed and underpaid Nigerian academia would be futile if President Buhari did not increase funding for education, ASUU stated that over 500,000 Nigerian children who desire public university education were rejected annually due to decayed infrastructure, reduced manpower and paucity of funds.

Quote:“The APC government’s failure to fund education is a design to kill public universities. University of Ibadan is groaning terribly due to paucity of funds. Retired academics cannot be replaced because government deliberately refused to make budgetary provision for growth and development.
“This crisis has led to the staff on ground being overworked leading to early deaths of many of our colleagues. Education is not the priority of this government. Due to paucity of funds, many universities including University of Ibadan, the nation’s premier university, cannot admit many qualified candidates into the universities.
“This is dangerous to the society as the rejected qualified and brilliant candidates may eventually take to crimes because the country has rejected them. The policy is not only wicked but criminal,” ASUU said.

I’m not your friend if you don’t celebrate my husband, Pastor Biodun Fatoyinbo - Modele Fatoyinbo

Speaking yesterday at the Commonwealth of Zion Assembly Headquarters in Abuja, the wife of the church's founder, Modele Fatoyinbo stated that anyone who does not celebrate her husband is not her friend.

Recall that Pastor Biodun Fatoyinbo stepped down as the Senior Pastor of the church last week, days after he denied the rape allegation against him by Busola Dakolo.

Modele Fatoyinbo who spoke at the church’s service on Sunday, maintained that her husband is the “father” of all COZA churches.

Quote:“I’m not your friend if you don’t celebrate this man. One of the things that I say about my husband is that I would have never had the opportunity — I used to be so shy to talk to one person. I used to let him do all the talking because I was a very introverted person.

“But he was able to help me see, like he was able to help a lot of us see, that there was greatness in me. So, I don’t have a problem standing before you this morning. The Lagos church, the Ilorin church, the Port Harcourt church — anywhere he is, Pastor Biodun is the father of that church. I’m not your friend if you don’t celebrate this man" she said.

Alpha titan testo By means of the usage of a cream like this, you can hold the pores and skin moisturized and supple, leaving the penis looking in tip top condition. An added gain of this penis cream, is the addition of an ingredient known as volufiline. This substance is discovered in beauty merchandise like lip plumpers, and its effect is one of stimulating the boom of the adicopyte fat cells on the underlayer of the derma. The result is that after several programs, it'll make your penis appearance plumper and fuller, just like your lips could with the former product.

Should you bet a -8 point Air Jordan 9 space jam favorite in football and the game was tied with 6 minutes left and the opposing team had the ball, would you have a realistic shot at winning? The answer is probably not. However, let's apply exactly the same situation to an NCAA college basketball game and chop 4 minutes from the clock-so there's 2 minutes left. Would you have a realistic shot at covering the 8 points? You bet! Each made basket is of 2 or 3 points and you need only 8 points. You would only need 3-4 baskets to make the 8 points.

Can you say that about any other sport? Finally, let's talk about NCAA college basketball totals. You might find that betting the total points in a game (under or over) is your thing and you would not be the only one.   Seven Governors, Predecessors At War Over N872b ‘debts’ (names)
User Avatar Forum: General Discussion
Posted by: Edoman - 07-07-2019, 08:16 PM - No Replies

Quote:At least seven of the new governors sworn in on May 29 may be spoiling for a showdown with their predecessors over alleged debts in excess of N872 billion, an investigation by The Nation has shown.

Governors Ahmadu Fintiri (Adamawa State), Bala Muhammad (Bauchi), Inuwa Yahya (Gombe), Emeka Ihedioha (Imo), AbdulRahman AbdulRasaq (Kwara), Seyi Makinde (Oyo) and Bello Matawalle (Zamfara)have been lamenting the poor financial conditions they inherited from their predecessors and there are indications they may not allow the matter end there.

Each day or week hardly passes without fresh discovery of alleged financial impropriety being made by the new helmsmen.

Debts which the new governors claim to have inherited are: Adamawa N115billion; Bauchi N137b; Gombe N119b; Kwara N98b; Oyo N150b; and Zamfara N251b.

Governor Ihedioha of Imo State has not put a figure yet to the debt he inherited but his party, PDP, said the state’s liabilities could be as much as N300b.

But the governor has repeatedly accused the immediate past governor, Rochas Okorocha of running the state aground.

Governor Makinde of Oyo State who claimed that his predecessor, Senator Abiola Ajimobi, left a debt profile of N150 billion has also said no less than N60billion of the state funds is in wrong hands.

He wants to set up an anti-graft agency in the state to deal with theft of public funds because, as he said, the reckless stealing of the commonwealth by a few cannot be allowed to continue.

Makinde’s Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Taiwo Adisa, told The Nation that the new government is still looking at the books.

According to him, the N150billion debt already discovered were incurred by the last administration in the name of bonds meant for specific projects but which were not effectively delivered.

He added that the government is still looking at the books and may invite past government officials to come and explain how some of the funds were spent.

He lamented that the N4.5billion coming from the Federal Allocation Account and the N2billion sourced internally monthly are hardly enough to pay workers’ wage bill of N5.5billion and execute projects.

Adisa said the state is technically bankrupt, saying: “the governor has more than enough evidence that some incongruous things were undertaken in the immediate past administration. “And those untoward activities, if the people get to know about them, the people will be far more than angry and when the people are angry it is like what you read in the books of Shakespeare where the plebeians can go either way.

“But Governor Seyi Makinde doesn’t want the anger of the people to be unleashed on anybody, that is why he said he will not probe, but when someone enters an office with an open mind and he is going about his business trying to study the ground and some people will just go about in the town saying he should face governance that he doesn’t know what he is doing and all that, but the records are showing that you mismanaged the state thoroughly. So, we will be left with no other option than to open the books and let the people decide.”

Neither former Governor Abiola Ajimobi nor his media aide, Mr Bolaji Tunji could be reached for reactions.

Why I’m yet to petition EFCC over my predecessor’s financial recklessness – Bauchi Governor

Governor Bala Mohammed says he’s currently preoccupied with putting things in order before deciding what to do about the alleged mishandling of the state’s finances by the last administration.

He recently accused former governor Abubakar Muhammed of blowing N2.4billion on burials.

The ex-governor denied the allegation, saying he spent only N1.2billion on burials.

Bala Mohammed speaking through his chief media aide, Dr Ladan Salihu said the huge debt profile of the state constitutes a threat to the development of the state.

He said that N137billion debt was the accumulation of the N96 billion left by the Isah Yuguda government and the N41billion by the immediate past administration.

His words:”It would be unexpected to say the huge debt profile will not affect development as it has laid ambush on various development mechanisms.

“With such huge debt profile, you would have expected to see some projects already on ground.

“We are not preoccupied with filing petitions at this point in time. We are more concerned about setting agenda, letting the people know about the policy direction of our government as we have barely spent a month in office. We are occupied with putting things in order.

“I can assure you when we aggregate the misdemeanour, all the highest financial crimes that will warrant us to make a case, we shall make a case. We will definitely cross the bridge when we get there. But for now we are preoccupied with laying the foundation for us to succeed.”

But reacting to the allegations, the media aide to the ex-governor, Ali. M. Ali said his principal only took non-commercial loans to develop infrastructure in the state.

He said the Abubakar administration did not go out of its way to secure fresh loans adding that that they were loans given by the Federal Government to all the states.

He said: “”The FG thought of bailing out states struggling to pay salaries. That was why there was a bailout loan of N8.7bn. There was also a budget support facility of N8bn.

“There was an agricultural loan of N8bn along with an infrastructure development loan of N10bn. So, if you calculate all these loans, you’ll get N34.7bn.

“I’m surprised with the impression that over N45bn debt was left in addition to the loans we inherited. You need to be clear about some of the loans. There is a foreign component to it, which I am not in a position to disclose now. If you look at the time these loans were given, the exchange rate was lower than it is now. So, if you convert that to the naira equivalent, you’ll see that the debt profile will be very huge. Beyond this, the (Abubakar) government did not take any commercial loan; that’s what people don’t understand.”

He also said the former governor left behind N11.6 billion in the state coffers and debt of N41billion and not N137b as alleged.

Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq inherited local debts totalling N59, 585,637,336.62k and foreign debts of about N48.6 million, according to his Chief Press Secretary Rafiu Ajakaye.

Governor AbdulRazaq had earlier revealed that Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) blacklisted the state because the former administration allegedly mismanaged the N1.5 billion grant meant for the upgrading of schools in the state in 2013.

This according to the government necessitated the ban placed on the state by UBEC in accessing grant from the commission.

AbdulRazaq said: “the last administration cannot be forgiven for the criminal neglect of the schools because the consequences are there for all to see.”

He added that ex-Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed’s response to the outrage that trailed the diversion of N1.5 UBEC funds has raised more questions on the sordid neglect of public schools under him.

He said that Ahmed’s statement that claims that funds were not diverted or mismanaged holds no water in the face of revelations from UBEC and the decrepit state of the schools.

The government said the mismanagement is apparent in Kwara ranking 37th — or the lowest — on the list of UBEC Matching Grant Disbursement Performance as at April 30, 2019.

The government said Ahmed’s claim that his government used the N1.5 billion to pay workers’ salary was untenable and fishy for an administration that received N22 billion Paris Club refund and additional N3.4b billion bailout funds that were meant to help states pay workers when federal allocation dropped.

But former governor Ahmed denied the claims that his administration mismanaged UBEC counterpart funds.

His spokesman, Dr Muyideen Akorede said that the federal agency essentially cancelled a N2 billion grant to the state when the government borrowed from UBEB its 50 percent cent counterpart fund of N1.5 billion for the payment of salaries at the height of the 2015 economic recession which prevented most states in Nigeria from meeting salary obligations to workers.

Matawalle, Yari in hot dispute over Zamfara debt profile

Governor Bello Matawalle of Zamfara State and the immediate past governor, Alhaji AbdulAziz Yari are locked in a dispute over the true position of the finances of the state with the incumbent claiming he inherited a debt profile of N215b.

Incidentally, the debt profile was compiled by a committee headed by Yari’s estranged former deputy, Ibrahim Wakkala.

Wakkala said that liabilities from economic, environment, general and social services stand at the sum of N151.1billion approximately.

He also claimed that from the Ministry of Finance, outstanding loans, contract retentions, bailouts and loans from banks reflected a sum of N65.3 billion approximately.

Furthermore, he said liabilities from the Ministry for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs stood at a sum of N33.3billion approximately. The committee chairman revealed also that a sum of N1.4billion was discovered as liability from unremitted National Housing Fund, and pension contributions deducted from salaries between 2016-2019.

Liabilities from education sector and pension and gratuity matters reflected N2.8billion and N1.6billion respectively.

Yari swiftly denied the allegations.

He said through his media aide Malam Ibrahim Dosara that he left no debt or liability for Matawalle.

Dosara said: “I want to make it categorically clear that the immediate past governor, Abdulaziz Yari Abubakar left no debt in the state when he handed over the leadership of the state to the government of Alhaji Bello Matawalle.

“The press briefing by the immediate past deputy-governor, Alhaji Ibrahim Wakkala, saying that Yari administration left a debt of over N251 billion, was misleading, misrepresenting and a calculated attempt to smear the good image of the former governor.

“We wonder why the committee failed to inform the world that Yari left N7 billion in the state coffers or that the former governor had constructed hundreds of kilometre roads cutting across all the 14 Local Government Areas of the state as well as provision of other dividends of democracy.”

Inherited debt is having debilitating effect on governance -Adamawa

A committee tasked to monitor the immediate past administration in Adamawa State says the government left a debt profile of N115 billion.

The Adamawa Transition Committee Chairman Aliyu Ismaila Numan said the debts comprise external and domestic loans, arrears of pensions, gratuities and death benefits, and salary arrears and other staff claims. The local government councils owe N18 billion.

The state Director General of Media and Communications, Solomon Kumanga, told The Nation in Yola that he needed to make consultations to be able to give an update on the exact debt figure, but was definite that the debt burden is a hindrance to development.

“The debt overhang is having a debilitating effect on governance. Government has to look critically before it can implement any development project. What the government is battling with now is how to clear this debt and free itself to execute projects,” Kumanaga said.

He added, however, that the governor is working out ways to deliver governance despite the debt issue, saying, “The Governor of Adamawa State, Governor Fintiti, is determined not to allow the issue of inherited debt to stop him from working for Adamawa people. What he is doing now is speaking with the banks. He is saying he will not allow himself into a situation when he will be controlled by the banks.

“He is speaking with the banks to reschedule the payment of these debts, especially the N5 billion overdraft from the UBA for the payment of local government staff. What His Excellency did was to renegotiate with the bank for government to pay it more gradually, rather than having to remove a whooping sum from our allocation.”

The past Adamawa State administration however objects to being blamed for the state’s debt burden.

The Commissioner of Finance under Bindow, Mahmoud Yunusa, had been quick in refuting the figures reeled out by Fintiri’s transition committee and the history of the ‘real figure.’

Mahmoud Yunusa who addressed the state House of Assembly on the matter on May 28, three days after the committee presented its report and a day to the terminal date of the Bindow regime, said, “Our debt profile stands at N44 billion. The N115 billion debt alleged by the transition committee is made up of tangible and intangible loans. These are debts that were accumulated over a long period. Some of the past administrations took loans and could not pay back.”

Bindow had himself said his government took minimal loans and only when very necessary. Speaking at the ceremony to mark Workers Day on May 1, 2019, Bindow who had barely a month to the end of his term then, said he only took loans to augment federal allocations for payment of workers’ salaries.

“I don’t take loans to execute projects. We utilize what we have for development projects,” he had said.

And speaking for the ex-governor over the week, his Personal Assistant on Media and Publicity, Martins Dickson, said the debt issue is being overblown by the present government for political reason.

Martins Dickson who was Bindow’s Special Assistant on Press and Media Affairs when Bindow was governor, added that Bindow was prudent in utilizing whatever funds or loans that he got, with development projects as proofs.

“What I expect this government to do is concentrate on governance because politics is over,” he said.

Abiodun silent on Ogun debt

Mum is the response from the Dapo Abiodun’s Administration in Ogun State on the debt profile inherited from former governor Ibikunle Amosun.

But Abiodun said recently that he met an almost empty treasury.

He said he has too many things to do to steer the affairs of the State than allow himself to be bogged down by what someone did or did not do.

The Nation contacted the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Kunle Somorin, for reaction but said he needed to contact the appropriate quarters for a concrete response.

He was yet to get back to The Nation at press time.

Okorocha left N300bn debt for Ihedioha – PDP

The Imo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) claimed that the immediate past Governor, Rochas Okorocha, may have left a debt profile of N300billion for his successor, Emeka Ihedioha.

Okorocha, according to the PDP, incurred over N100 billion debt and abandoned projects worth more than N200 billion across the state.

The party was reacting to the claim by Okorocha that he was leaving over N42 billion for the incoming administration of PDP’s Emeka Ihedioha.

The PDP dismissed Okorocha’s claim as unverifiable and baseless.

Ihedioha himself is yet to say how much he inherited by way of debt although he has repeatedly accused Okorocha of financial recklessness.

Elizabeth Ndubuisi-Chukwu Strangulated To Death In South Africa - Autopsy Report
User Avatar Forum: News
Posted by: Edoman - 07-07-2019, 08:08 PM - No Replies

Ebere Nwoji

The Deputy Director General of the Chartered Insurance Institute of Nigeria (CIIN), Mrs Elizabeth Ndubuisi-Chukwu was strangulated to death in her hotel room at Emperor’s Palace, Johannesburg, South Africa, an autopsy report has said.

However, a review of the CCTV at the hotel showed that nobody entered Ndubisi’s room during the 46th African Insurance Organisation Conference and General Assembly (AIO) held between June 9 and 13 in South Africa.

Chairman and Chief Executive of Nigeria in Diaspora Commission, Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa disclosed on her twitter handle that Ndubisi was strangulated to death, citing autopsy report from South Africa’s Depart of Health.

Dabiri-Erewa said, “Our Consular General in South Africa alongside the brother of the deceased are on the sad incident. The CCTV showed no one entered the room.

“Autopsy showed that the death of Ndubisi was unnatural. However, checks on the CCTV by the South African Police showed that no one entered the room.”

Ndubisi’s colleagues, who interacted with her throughout the conference until her death in the night of June 13, claimed that she was hale and hearty until her death.

THISDAY could not reach the CIIN President, Mr Eddie Efekoha yesterday to find out steps the professional body was taking to bring those behind Ndubisi’s death to book.

Efekoha did not answer his calls; neither did he respond to SMS message sent to him by THISDAY.

However, credible sources disclosed that the CIIN had written to the South Africa High Commission and the police, though they were yet to get feedback from them.

Since the autopsy report was released, concerned Nigerians have been debating what culminated in Ndubisi’s death on different social media platforms, wondering could have been responsible for the evil deed.

Former Chairman of National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), Prof. Chidi Odinkalu lamented that 25 days after Ndubisi was killed by strangulation in her hotel room, South African Police did not ask for footage.

According to him, it that normal? From where did you get your information as to what CCTV showed?

Some of the comments THISDAY obtained on different platforms read in part: “The CCTV video footage could have been edited. That is what must be unraveled.

“It is unbelievable for a gentle woman like her to have had altercation with anybody that could lead to strangulation. But as they said, investigation is ongoing. I hope relevant bodies will pursue this matter to a logical conclusion.”

Another comment from her professional colleagues said the hotel “was quiet until questions started popping up in the social media. Then, they responded yesterday morning that the police did not show up for the CCTV footage.

“Not so long, the South Africa Police said they found nothing in the footage. All these happened g within hours.”

Ndubisi-Chukwu, a dedicated staff of the CIIN and a valued member of the institute, joined the institute on April 9, 2016.

During her time at the institute, she consistently championed the ideals of the Institute, promoting the insurance Industry agenda with her expertise and experience.

In particular, the CIIN Breakfast Seminar Series, a program that has become a feature in the insurance industry, is one of the legacies that she left behind.
The Lagos state police command have arrested Akin Olatilu pictured above, for allegedly sexually abusing his 19-year-old step daughter.

The victim had on June 14th, reported the matter to the police. She told the police that her stepfather has been having sexual relations with her since she was 14. She got tired and informed her mother who did nothing to stop her husband or challenged him.

Spokesperson of the state police command, Bala Elkana, says the victim told the police that the abuse did not stop until she turned 18 years old. According to the victim, the suspect also had sexual intercourse with her in the month of March 2019. He attempted to have sex with her in June but she turned him down.

This got him infuriated and he told a lie against her to her mother who beat her up seriously.

#BBNaija: Omashola, Ike risk possible eviction as coins get stolen

Housemates, Omashola and Ike's chances of getting evicted during today's live show has increased, following loss of their Bet9ja coins.

The ‘Pepper Dem’ housemates were given coins and ‘Biggie’ had stated that the housemate with the least number of coins will be evicted during the live show on Sunday.

Omashola, who had 120 coins, was clearly distraught upon discovering that at least 100 coins were stolen from the bunch after the Saturday party. According to the 38-year-old housemate, he placed the coins in his Bible before the party and could not account for how they got missing.

The Delta-born Omashola poured his aggression on other housemates, urging Biggie to replay the tape and stating that he would not leave the house if evicted.

Fans of the show have taken to social media to show support for Omashola, pleading with Biggie not to send him home as the coin loss was not his fault.

Thus, this morning, Biggie addressed housemates Avala, Gedoni, Isilomo and Khaffi telling them to pack their bags be ready for tonight’s eviction. Biggie also called out Omashola and Ike for breaking the rules of the house and should also pack their bags too for tonight’s eviction!

Nigeria is two countries in one: Backward north, developing south, says El-Rufai

[Image: Governor-Nasir-el-Rufai-of-Kaduna-State-700x375.jpg]

Governor Nasir el-Rufai of Kaduna State on saturday, painted the picture of Nigeria as that of two countries in one: a developing South and a backward, less educated and unhealthy north, with the highest number of poor people in the world.
He also drew similarities between the development indicators of the North and those of war-torn Afghanistan.
The governor spoke at the Northern Youth Summit in Kaduna organised by Northern Hibiscus, an NGO.
He said that for the problems to be tackled effectively, the governors of all the 19 northern states have to work together.

His words: “Looking at the statistics, Nigeria appears to be a middle income country. But, if we segregate those statistics across states and zones, you will see that, in terms of human development indicators, Nigeria consists of two countries; there is a backward, less educated and unhealthy northern Nigeria, and a developing, largely educated and healthy southern Nigeria.
“We have to speak the truth to ourselves and ask why is it that northern Nigeria has development indicators similar to Afghanistan, a country still at war?
“We have the largest number of poor people in the world, most of them in northern Nigeria. Nigeria also has the largest number of out of school children, virtually all of them in Northern Nigeria.
“Northern Nigeria has become the centre of drug abuse, gender violence, banditry, kidnapping and terrorism. We have also been associated with high divorce rate and breakdown of families. These are the challenges that confront us. This is the naked truth that we have to tell ourselves.
“We must therefore, as leaders at all levels, have conversation about the way forward for our part of the country. Because increasingly, as many of you must have seen on social media, we are being considered as the parasite of the federal economy, even though, that is not entirely true. Because northern Nigeria still feeds the nation. The richest business man in Nigeria is still Aliko Dangote, not someone from Southern Nigeria, thank God for that.
“So, we still have a lot to be proud of. We should be proud of our culture and tradition, as well as unity. You hardly can find someone from northern Nigeria convicted of 419 or being a Yahoo boy. That is something we should be proud of.

“We are generally considered to be more honest and less corrupt than other Nigerians. That is something we should be proud of. In addition, our demographic superiority gives us a very powerful tool to negotiate in politics. And that is something we should be proud of and we should preserve. So, we have every reason to unite and not be divided.”
He asked northern youths to rise up to the challenge.

He said:”I therefore call on you the youth, you account for 80 per cent of the northern population and the future of this region lies in your hands, not in the hands of dinosaurs like me.
“I’m 59 and among the oldest five per cent of the northern population. I shouldn’t even be governor; I should have been governor 10 years ago. But ‘na condition make crayfish bend’, so we are here.”
He said the theme of the summit -’Awakening the Arewa Spirit’- was apt as it would help in preparing the next generation of northern leaders.
He told the summit organizers to send recommendations from this talks to the Chairman of northern State Governors Forum.
“We have to do something about the situation of northern Nigeria and we must do so as a group of 19 Governors, not individual state Governors,” El-Rufai said.
Also speaking, the sponsor of the event and immediate past Chairman of House of Representatives Committee on Appropriation, Abdulmumini  Jibrin said  while the North is currently in a dire situation, it  has not lost everything.
He stressed the need to reawaken the Arewa spirit and called for role models across board, adding that “we have to mould leaders, we have to create ourselves into leaders.”
In her opening remarks, founder of Northern Hibiscus Initiative, Aisha Falke, said the summit organised to examine the numerous challenges of the north, with a view to finding lasting solutions to them.
She said the NGO has also taken the bull by the horn with a 16-year action to empower the youths with useful skills, especially those who are not privileged to have the formal education.

7-year-old boy beaten to death by angry classmates for writing their names on noise makers list

A 7-year-old boy identified as Phestus Kalela was confirmed dead on Wednesday, after being beaten by 4 angry classmates for writing their names on the noise makers list and also being served a punishment of picking papers.

The class captain was pronounced dead few minutes after arriving Kitwe Teaching Hospital, Zambia, following the injuries he sustained after being beaten by the boys aged 8, 7 and 6. Confirming the incident, Kitwe District Commissioner Binwell Mpundu said the deceased was brought in unconcious but died later in the intensive care unit as efforts to resuscitate him were futile.

Quote:“I wish to confirm…a 7-year-old boy who was beaten to death by peers. I received this information after my visit to the hospital,” Mpundu said.

The district commissioner who described the incident as saddening, wondered how children below the age of 10 could beat their peer who was buried today to death. It was further gathered that the boys who are below 10 have no case to answer, as they cannot be proscuted under the Zambian law.

RHAPSODY OF REALITIES

SUNDAY, 7TH JULY.

THE CHURCH IS CALLED “THE WAY”

And Saul, yet breathing out threatenings and slaughter against the disciples of the Lord, went unto the high priest, And desired of him letters to Damascus to the synagogues, that if he found any of this way … (Acts 9:1-2).

From the underlined portion of the scripture above, we see that the Church was already being called “The Way” in the days of the apostles. It’s very interesting that the Church would be called “the way,” after Jesus said in John 14:6, “…I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.”

This shows our inextricable oneness with Him. As He is, so are we in this world. We are today, the WAY to the Father, the WAY to His presence. Hallelujah! In Acts 22:4, the Apostle Paul, while narrating his persecution of the Church, said, “I persecuted the followers of this Way to their death, arresting both men and women and throwing them into prison” (NIV). Then again, in Acts 24:14, he said, “However, I admit that I worship the God of our fathers as a follower of the Way, which they call a sect…” (NIV).

They called the early Church, “The way.” The Lord describing Himself said, “I am the way” (John 14:6)! A new and living way was revealed in Jesus; and because we’re now the bearers of His message, we’ve become the way.

This is too much for the religious mind, but it’s what the Word shows. We’re the way to the Father! We’re not only to show men the presence of God, but also ordained to usher them in. Blessed be God! Obadiah 1:21 says, “And saviours shall come up on mount Zion to judge the mount of Esau; and the kingdom shall be the LORD’S.”

Note: it doesn’t say, “A saviour shall come up on mount Zion.” Rather, it says, “Saviours,” meaning there’d be many saviours from Zion, and we—the Church—are the saviours from Zion. We’re bearers of the divine order, carriers and dispensers of eternal verities. Praise God forevermore!

PRAYER

Heavenly Father, thank you for qualifying me to be an ambassador of Christ, showing men and women the way to the Kingdom. I recognize that I’m the hope and light of the world; I function in this ministry of reconciliation with everything that I am and with all that I have, ushering many in my world into the Kingdom, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.

Ugandan woman hacks off husband's penis after he denied her sex as punishment for heavy drinking

Beatrice Acen, a 35-year-old Ugandan woman is on the run after hacking off her husband's penis for withholding her conjugal rights. Her husband had refused to have sex with her as punishment for heavy drinking.

Beatrice returned home drunk at 10pm on June 30 and proceeded to demand sex from her husband, Moses Okot, a 46-year-old peasant farmer.

Mr Okot said that he had returned home from hunting during the day, eaten and gone to sleep when his wife attacked him.

On her return to the house she called out to him to open the door for her.

He was already asleep and awoke to ''find my pants wetted with blood,'' he said.

The victim believes that his wife resorted to this drastic measure due to his longstanding method of punishing her for her 'alcoholism.'
'As a man, I would no longer tolerate such, so I decided to deny her sex with hope that she would reform,' he said.

According to the chairman of the village where the couple lived, this is not the first time she has attacked her husband. He said: "Last year, she broke this man’s collar bone during a domestic fight and ran away."

He added that domestic violence is rife in the village with the women drinking as much as the men.

Mr Okot was taken to the local police station to file a complaint against his wife before being rushed to Apac main hospital where he is now receiving medical treatment.

Domestic violence is a big problem in Uganda, especially northern Uganda where Mr Okot's village is located.

RUGA: Give us Sambisa forest – Fulani herdsmen

Following the suspension of the RUGA settlement which ignited controversy, the National President of Miyetti Allah Kautel Hore socio-cultural organization, Alhaji Abdullahi Bodejo, has appealed to the Federal Government to give them Sambisa Forest for relocation.

Bodejo who told The Sun that the Fulanis never asked for RUGA settlement in the first place, stated that the facilities for carrying out their cattle business must be provided for them to relocate. He said;

Quote:“Whether Sambisa or anywhere, the Fulani can stay. The Fulani people do not fear Sambisa or any forest.  The Fulani are ready to stay anywhere there is bush but number one is that there must be water which their cows can drink and there must be grasses for their cows to eat. If Sambisa has all those facilities, you do not need to introduce it to the Fulani; they would go there and herd their cows.
“If you see any place where the Fulani do not go to, it is because such a place does not have water and grasses for the grazing of their cows. All the places like Enugu, Benue and Taraba, if Fulani don’t go there to fertilize their land, nobody will go there to farm.
“The Fulani have settled in many places including the Federal Capital Territory before the farmers came there. So, if the Federal Government could introduce the Fulani to the Sambisa forest, we are ready to go there. I will be the number one person who will go there.
“Nobody requested for Ruga settlement in the first place. The Fulani already have their Ruga. What is the meaning of Ruga? Is it not a place where you have the Fulani houses? So, we already have Ruga but I do not know why all the confusion about all the issues concerning the Fulani in this country. This is because we have grazing reserve areas and people are not talking about it. They initially talked about the cattle colony and from there, they now started talking about Ruga.
“They said they wanted to settle the Fulani in one place but did anybody tell them what they wanted to do? Nobody had any meeting with them on the issue of Ruga but I noticed that there are now desperate people who claim to be Fulani leaders by all means.
“You can imagine, for instance, a Fulani man who has about 300 cows and nobody told him that they want to settle him in one place and suddenly, you started hearing about Ruga on the TV, radio and social media.
“See how innocent Fulani people are being chased away in the South East, South South and other places as if they are not Nigerians. What caused these things is the issue of Ruga but the Fulani being chased away do not even know about the Ruga policy. Even we the Fulani leaders did not know about the Ruga policy.
“We did not know any plan for that by the Federal Government or the Ministry of Agriculture. I have cows for instance and they are staying in Ruga but we have a problem with the cattle routes.
“If they are serious, let them come and discuss with the real Fulani leaders and not those who claim to be Fulani leaders and they go behind to collect bribe and speak for our people. How do you think you can settle the Fulani in one place?
“How many factories from the cow value chain do we have in this country now? If you say you want to put the Fulani in one Ruga settlement, how can you put for instance about 10,000 cows in one place? Do you want to kill the cows?”

“He was caught red handed inside a vehicle belonging to one of the staff with a scissors in his hand while trying to disconnect the wire of the key starter of the vehicle for easy drive. When the owner of the car saw the man inside his car, he shouted on him to come out of his vehicle! But the notorious criminal in the business of stealing cars threatened to stab him with the scissors and the owner of the car had to scream louder for help," said the witness.
“Upon his (the car owner) shouting, men gathered and overpowered the suspected criminal and handed him over to the Chief Security Officer of the hospital for necessary action”, the eyewitness added.

Bello El-Rufai Threatens President Buhari Over Appointments
User Avatar Forum: General Discussion

Against expectations, Buhari had approved the re-appointment of Boss Mustapha as Secretary to the Government of the Federation and Abba Kyari as Chief of Staff to the President.

Quote:Bello, a son of Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has expressed concerns over recent appointment made by President Muhammadu Buhari, threatening to protest the re-appointment of some ministers and aides who served in his first term.

The Kaduna State governor’s son said if Buhari re-appoints same set of ministers, he would lose the trust of Nigerians.

“We trust you, Mr. President. It has nothing to do with partisanship. It has nothing to do with your cult following that only fools deny. But recent appointments aside, if some Ministers return, well, that trust will become very unsteady. We are not PDP, you will hear us!” Bello tweeted Friday night

Against expectations, Buhari had approved the re-appointment of Boss Mustapha as Secretary to the Government of the Federation and Abba Kyari as Chief of Staff to the President.

A statement by Presidential Spokesperson, Garba Shehu, said both appointments took effect from May 29, 2019. Meanwhile, many Nigerians, opposition parties, economists and foreign investors have expressed worries over the delay in President Buhari's appointment of ministers.
It appears with the latest statement by the Presidency, Buhari's current priority is his domestic staff.

The President, who has been accused of nepotistic tendencies, reeled out the names of 11 people mostly from the northern part of the country.

Fulani Herdsmen Have Taken Over Our Farmlands; They Kill Rape Our People— Delta
User Avatar Forum: General Discussion
Posted by: Edoman - 07-06-2019, 05:43 PM - No Replies

Life in Ubulu-Uku, Isele-Uku, Onicha-Olona, Onicha-Ugbo and environs, all agrarian communities in Aniocha and Oshimili local government areas of Delta State, has fallen on hard times. In recent months, some members of the communities have had reasons to curse their fate.

They can be said to be united by a common sense of helplessness. Gone are the days when peace reigned in the communities and everyone went about their business, predominantly farming, without fear of attack. Sadly, in a cruel twist of fate, many residents have deserted their farmlands to save their lives. There have been continued attacks by gunmen alleged to be Fulani herdsmen, forcing many of the residents out of their lands.

In the last one month alone, a prominent chief in Ubulu-Uku Kingdom and the Medical Director of Good News Hospital, Isele-Uku, Chief Chikwe Ojinji and Dr Andrew Odozi respectively, have been murdered by gunmen suspected to be Fulani herdsmen.

The affected communities were saddened by the deaths, which caused a sense of gloom, despondency and weary hopelessness to descend on residents. Odozi was killed in the line of duty; he was rushing to his hospital to save the life of one Mr Meme, who had been shot in the neck by suspected herdsmen along the Isele-Uku/Ubulu-Uku Road, when he met his death.

The doctor had received a distress call from his staff members that Meme was brought to the hospital in Isele-Uku for gunshot injuries. Odozi left everything he was doing to get to the hospital, but on his way, ran into a roadblock mounted by the assailants, who were robbing commuters. The doctor was subsequently robbed and shot dead.

Odozi was said to have died on the spot and his body was deposited at a mortuary. Meme was later rushed to the Federal Medical Centre, Asaba, where he is still recuperating.

Our correspondent was unable to speak to Meme at the hospital but a legal practitioner who was also there following his release after being abducted by the suspected Fulani herdsmen, described his experience as terrible.

Several times, the lawyer, who spoke on condition of anonymity for personal reasons, squeezed his eyes shut and desperately tried to tell himself that it was all a horrible nightmare, which would soon be over. Sadly, it never did. According to him, he was abducted on Isele-Uku/Ubulu-Uku Road and N1m ransom was paid by his wife to secure his release.

The lawyer was visiting his hometown from Lagos when he fell into the hands of the gunmen.

I’m waiting for God to explain why this tragedy befell me –Esther, Benue mother of two kids who drowned
“I saw hell. I had a brief worth millions of naira that I was supposed to handle the following Monday; meanwhile, I was abducted at the weekend. I was released on Wednesday after my wife paid N1m as ransom. This is a shame. I have lived in the North and I understand Fulfulde a little. “My abductors were Fulani people. How can people from far North come to be abducting people in our land and we are keeping quiet? Can people from the South and the South-East go to the northern part of the country and be abducting people, demanding ransom and killing them? This is a shame, and we must address it and kick against this affront or else we should take it that we have been captured,” he said, with palpable frustration.

All over the communities, one could sense the growing frustration among the residents left there.

Mr Charles Ojinji, younger brother to the slain Ojinji, narrated how his brother was killed, describing the situation as shocking.

“We are still in shock at our elder brother’s sudden and unnatural death. He was a warrior who had the interest of the community at heart. We all were farming on the land before Fulani herdsmen, who followed the high tension wire to a forest reserve near a stream in Aniagbala, a suburb of Ubulu-Uku, took over our farmlands. When we saw that they were fully armed, we left our farms for them. What attracted the herdsmen there was the beautiful stream, which has now become a curse to us.

“Their cows would eat our farm produce, eat the yam tubers in our barns, cassava, vegetables, drink our water and mess up our stream. The stream is the only source of water in our community.

“One day, we challenged the herders and they beat some of us up. They held them hostage at gunpoint. Since that time, some people stopped going to the farm to avoid the wrath of herdsmen who have taken over our land. We did nothing and we owe them nothing, yet we have been subjected to all manner of inhuman treatment. Our women are not spared.

“I was shocked this year when my brother went back to the same farmland that we had abandoned for the herdsmen to start faming again. Well, other people were still farming there but, one day, over 200 cows entered the farm and ate up everything. My brother was enraged. I don’t know what transpired between him and the herders. Anyway, an eyewitness told me that my brother was attacked with machetes and then shot dead.

“My brother’s wife had travelled to Lagos so there was nobody at home. When his neighbours noticed that he did not return from the farm, they called me and we went to the farm and saw him in a pool of blood. We rushed him to hospital but the doctor confirmed him dead on arrival.

“They have killed my brother, what else can they do? Today, it is my brother, who knows the next person tomorrow? Well, herdsmen are everywhere in the bushes surrounding our community; we are under siege. The police deposited his body in a mortuary. We want the body of our brother so that we can bury him to allow him rest in peace,” he said as he recalled the unpleasant experience.

Apart from the deep sense of loss felt by members of the affected communities, they are at a loss to find a solution to the problem of insecurity affecting them. Speaking on the plight of Ubulu-Uku people, a member of the local vigilance group, Emeka Chukwudi, described the community as a conquered community, which was at the mercy of herdsmen.

“Yes, that is the truth. We have been conquered by strangers who have taken over our farmlands. This is because we have been rendered incapacitated by the police who have disarmed us and allowed the herdsmen to move freely with sophisticated firearms. The herdsmen are doing well in their agenda to take over our place. Today, I am so sad that the one-time strong Ubulu-Uku is suffering from attacks by Fulani herdsmen.

“Herdsmen abducted our king about three years ago and butchered him like a common criminal. We are still suffering from the abominable act carried out against our king, His Royal Highness, Obi Akaeze Christopher Ofulue. As if that was not enough, the herdsmen want to render us jobless. You know that we are predominantly farmers; that is our pride, but now, we are scared to go to the farms for fear of being killed,” he said.

He continued, “We are surrounded by other communities such as Abu-Ugba, Ogwashi-Uku, Obior and Isele-Uku. The herdsmen have virtually taken over the border land between Ubulu-Uku and other towns and are callously unleashing terror on us on a daily basis.

“Recently, a woman was killed between Ubulu-Uku and Obior. She was going to Umunede Market when she was waylaid by herdsmen, who butchered her and stole her motorcycle. We saw her corpse but we don’t know what they did to her before they finally killed her. A few days later, some indigenes returning home were robbed. The two incidents forced people to abandon the Ubulu-Uku/Obior Road for Isele-Uku/Ubulu-Uku Road in order to access other communities.

“As it is, we are in deep trouble. The hoodlums have taken over all the bushes surrounding Ubulu-Uku, through Isele-Uku, Ogwashi-Uku, Obior, Ubulu-Unor, Onitcha-Ugbo and Abu-Ugba.

“There are no longer safe access roads in and out of Ubulu-Uku and there is no help in sight, as people are scared to go to their farms for fear of being killed. Even if one is courageous enough to go to the farm, how will the person transport the farm produce to neighbouring markets, when the access roads have been taken over by killer herdsmen who unleash terror on road users? These brigands are doing their nefarious business unchallenged and this is a slap on our faces.

“But there is no way we can challenge gunmen with machetes and stones. Our children who live outside the town are scared to visit us at home because of the killer herdsmen that have taken over our surroundings.

“Recently, a resident, Monday Ike, who was working on his farm along the Ubulu-Uku/Onicha Ugbo Road, was accosted by Fulani herdsmen who had kidnapped some victims and kept them in a thick forest. The herdsmen were running out of food and water, so they boldly approached him and ordered Ike to go to the village and bring them water and food, at his own expense, warning that they would kidnap him from his farm if he told anyone. Ike pledged not to report what he saw to anybody.

“He eventually reported the development to the vigilance group, who called in the police. The police and the vigilance group stormed the forest, rescued the victims and arrested a herder. But a few days later, the suspect was freed by the police.

“Recently, herdsmen blocked the Isele-Uku/Ubulu-Uku Road and abducted two occupants of a car. They released the victims after collecting N600,000. Again, an indigene of Isele-Azagba living in Ubulu-Uku, Mr Sunday, his wife and son were accosted along the road. Their attackers, suspected to be herdsmen, shot the man in the neck and abducted his wife and son. After two days in captivity, the victims were released after N1m was paid as ransom. The man is still battling for his life in the hospital.

“In fact, we are like Automated Teller Machines to herdsmen. They are dealing with us unchallenged and it is so sad. Right now, we are living in fear and abject poverty because our farmers are afraid to go to their farms. Commercial motorcycle operation is the only lucrative business in our town now, as farmers have abandoned their farms. And we can’t blame any farmer who has abandoned their farmland.

“Of what use is it, if after investing in your farm and working for almost one year, herdsmen take their cattle to graze on all you laboured for in just one day? That is the problem. Can you imagine what would happen when over 200 cows enter a farm? And when the owner of the farm challenges the herders, they shoot them.

“The worst of it all is that they rape women in the presence of their husbands and children and rape daughters in front of their parents and siblings. I don’t want to mention the names of victims because of the despicable nature of the act. Abomination is being witnessed in our land.

“We, members of vigilance group, are handicapped as it is today. We used to patrol our roads, but our vehicle has been grounded and the police have disarmed us, while the herdsmen are fully armed with AK-47 rifles and other sophisticated weapons. We are only left with machetes, knives and axes. How do we use ordinary cutlasses to confront herdsmen armed with AK-47 and other assault rifles?

“The only solution is to fall back to the police, but the police post in our community is manned by a man and a woman. Let government give us adequate police manpower and leave intelligence gathering to us. We have all it takes in intelligence and we will assist the police in fishing out the herdsmen because we know where they are, but we have been disarmed by the government.”

On his part, the Palace Secretary, who speaks for the Obi of the community, Mr Joseph Obaze, described the situation as worrisome.

He said, “We are really under serious attack by herdsmen. We are really going through excruciating pains. We have just finished a meeting and we are planning to have a massive peaceful protest over the attacks on our people by Fulani herdsmen. We have met heads of farm roads in the town and they all narrated their ordeals in the hands of herdsmen and their cattle. They told us how their farms were being ravaged by cattle. Apart from the fruits and vegetables, the herders would go to our barns and feed their cattle with the yams. We have written to the police and they said they were going to discuss the issue in their security meeting.

“This is a major problem brewing. A native has just opened a cattle ranch and tomatoes market in the town. We are not against him, but he has started employing Fulani to take care of the ranch. Our fear is that, wherever these herders settle, they start bringing their people to the place. We have given the businessman an ultimatum to leave the place because we are not comfortable with people who would kill us.

“What surprises me is that we rear native cows in this area, yet they don’t stray into people’s farms. Our cows don’t feed on yams and cassavas, but only grass. They should leave us alone, we don’t need their meat. They should not use their business to disturb ours. As they love their cows, so we love our farms.

“Many people are scared to go to the farms for fear of being attacked by the herdsmen. Women are being abused and the men are being killed. That is why we are crying to Governor Ifeanyi Okowa and the Delta State Commissioner of Police, Mr Adeyinka Adeleke, to come to our rescue and save us from being exterminated by killer herdsmen. The governor and the CP should expedite action as we are living in fear. There is tension in the town; things have really fallen apart.

“It is not as if we are cowardly but we want to explore all avenues for peace. We love peace but our peacefulness should not be taken as weakness. Let government intervene and save us from a war situation.”

Obaze has, however, appealed to Ubulu-Uku indigenes and residents to be law-abiding and conscious of the development. “Let us not abandon farm work that we are known for. People should go to the farm in groups while those travelling should avoid night journey, until government is able to solve the problem,” he said.

However, Adeleke said he was aware of the killing of the doctor, even though the case was not reported to any police station. “I am also aware of the attack on a lawyer and the killing of the Ubulu-Uku chief. I personally led an operation to the bush and some suspects were arrested and are with me. I want to assure you that the police are not keeping quiet. For me to lead an operation to the bush, you must agree that we are doing something about it,” he said.

There have been recurrent cases of kidnap by alleged herdsmen in the state and it seems the security agencies and the state government have so far failed in protecting the people.

While briefing journalists in Asaba recently, Governor Ifeanyi Okowa had said the state government was very much aware of what was going on, but required a very strong directive from the Presidency.

“If that is done, it becomes easier for the security agencies to work with us to take some certain actions. Until that is done, we might just find ourselves doing the best we can and that may not be able to bring out the best in us.

“It is very unfortunate we find ourselves in this country. We are going through some challenges in Delta but if we look at it from a national angle, Delta State is not even among the top five of states you would consider to have a high rate of insecurity. There are worse cases going round this country and it ought not to be so.

“The issue is that everybody is agitated and we are now being put on our toes. In fact, the President has called for a meeting of all the governors.

“The issue that is going to be discussed is that of insecurity across the nation; it is something we need to find solution to before it consumes us completely. It is rather unfortunate on where we are but as it is, it is important to find appropriate solution,” he had said.

The governor noted that the security agencies were doing their best, adding that with a strong statement from the Presidency, he was “sure that a lot more would be done”.

“I hope we would come out with such at the end of our meeting.

“It is truly unfortunate, even on Tuesday, I had to sit to discuss this issue with the Commissioner of Police and he is very worried about what is going on in Delta. The issue of kidnapping and the fact that our people are not able to freely go to their farms because of herdsmen is actually worrisome and we feel it is necessary to do something out of the ordinary to be able to deal with the situation,” Okowa had added.

The governors met with President Muhammadu Buhari behind closed doors on Friday, June 7, 2019.

Chairman of the Nigeria Governors Forum, Dr Kayode Fayemi, who is also the Ekiti State Governor, while addressing journalists after the meeting, said, “We discussed extensively all of these issues and looked at the various ways we felt as governors we could assist Mr. President as the Commander-in-Chief to curb these issues.

“We were able to look at the nexus between our economic challenges, the security challenges and the importance of tackling the causes of crime, not just crime on its own.”

Groom-to-be, 7 Guests Murdered In Adamawa

..59 orphaned by killings

...‘Why locals mistook groom’s party for bandits’

Quote:By Kabiru R. Anwar,

In eerie similarity to the infamous ‘red wedding’ in the best-selling series of books ‘Game of Thrones’, where a groom and his guests were brutally slain by the bride’s family, a mob in Borong, a village in Demsa area of Adamawa State have lynched a groom and his friends who came from Borno State to wed a daughter of their land.

While ‘Thrones’ is a work of fiction, in the Adamawa bloodbath, the groom, Luka Yakubu, himself a Christian and a member of an association of hunters in Kubo-Kanakuru village in Shani Local Government Area of Borno State, invited eight of his Muslim friends to accompany him to meet the parents of his bride-to-be to perfect the wedding process as required by tradition.

Kubo-Kanakuru village is a predominantly Muslim community near the Borno-Adamawa border where Muslims and Christians live in peace with each other.

Groom-to-be Yusuf and his friends, being hunters, dressed in full hunters’ uniforms, carrying their locally-made guns and a load of kolanuts. They bid their families goodbye, anticipating a peaceful journey.

Before embarking on the journey, Yusuf had asked a friend and link man in their destination to inform the local hunters in Borong of their impending journey, to avoid unnecessary panic in the community.

But as soon as the group rode into Borong on their motorcycles and met with their contact person, who was ready to lead them to the bride’s parents in a small community known as Dilli, some suspicious villagers sent word around that Fulani bandits were there to attack them. Youths soon mobilised for a ‘war’ of sorts.

As tension built up, someone quickly alerted the police. They arrived the scene and took eight of the wedding guests into custody, as the ninth had had a flat tyre before they reached the trouble spot, and had stayed behind to fix it.

While the groom-to-be, his party, and their local contact person explained their mission to the police, a massive protest was going on outside the police station, with the mob chanting, and vowing to kill the visitors and dump their bodies in a river.

The police tried to disperse the mob, which was heating up rapidly, using tear gas, but were met with stiff resistance. The mob closed in, eventually overpowering the security personnel, and lynched the groom and his friends, before throwing their bloodied, lifeless bodies into a nearby river.

Sole survivor Alhassan Danladi told Daily Trust Saturday that amid the rancour, he realised the situation was hopeless, so he tactically sneaked out of the scene during the mayhem, as the mob did not pay attention to him because he was not in uniform.

Danladi, narrating his harrowing ordeal, said the angry mob demanded the police hand them over for jungle justice. “They said if released, we could come back to attack the village. They vowed to kill all of us and dump our corpses in the river. The police fired teargas canisters to disperse the crowd, but they remained undaunted, accusingthe police of shielding us,” he said.

Danladi continued: “After I sneaked away from the escalating situation at the [police] station, I went to the vulcaniser’s workshop where the motorcycle with a flat tyre was being fixed, and sat, pretending to be part of the crowd. I heard them accusing the groom, Luka Yusuf, of conniving with Fulani to launch an attack on them.”

Suddenly, a local came running towards Danladi and the group with which he sat, and announced that a man had just been killed and thrown into the river. “One man said he was familiar with the person killed, and mentioned he was a Christian. At that point all of them shouted “Jesus! Our brother has been killed,” he added.

Danladi sat there, paralyzed by fear, wondering to himself what would happen if the locals discovered he’s a stranger amongst them. While struggling to remain calm and below the radar, he thought about his next line of action. Then another resident brought the news that a second person was killed by the mob, and that soldiers and mobile policemen would soon arrive Borrong.

Upon receiving the news that soldiers were on their way to the village, people started dispersing, leaving Danladi stranded as he did not know his way out of the village being a first-time visitor. Then in the midst of the confusion, a man dressed in priestly robes came by with another, and Danladi quickly seized the opportunity and asked them to show him the way out of the village. The men described the route for him, and the cleric offered some prayers for his safety.

Shattered lives: Luka Yusuf’s widow, and two of their four kids are pictured above.

As the pastor prayed, Danladi pretended to be a Christian and closed his eyes the way Christians do while praying, repeating “Amen, in Jesus name.” Afterwards, the clergyman wished him a safe return to his destination.

As soon as he arrived his village, he noticed an unusually mournful mood. The news had travelled faster than he did, and people milled around him, all frantically asking “What happened?” Families and friends cried over the loss of eight young men, in one fell swoop. Danladi then went to the palace of the district head to brief him on the bloody outcome of the journey.

When contacted, the acting district head of Kubo Kanakuru, Musa Lawal, expressed shock over the killing of the innocent young men, calling on security agencies to bring the murderers to justice.

The traditional ruler told Daily Trust Saturday that the victims left behind a total of 59 orphans, and several other defendants. He also urged the authorities to support the children’s education, and general welfare. He thanked the deputy governor of Borno State, the chairman of the National Hunters Association, and other individuals and groups who paid condolence visits.

The member representing Shani constituency, Ibrahim Musa Inuwa Kubo, assured families of the slain men that government would not relent until justice is delivered, adding that the Borno State governor, his deputy, the Shank LGA councilchairman, and himself, have been working to ensure the culprits are punished in accordance with the law.

Adamawa State’s police spokesman, DSP Sulaiman Nguroje, said four suspects arrested in Borong in connection with the murder had been charged to court while several others remain at large.

  I Don’t Regret Leaving Music – Eldee
User Avatar Forum: Other Stories
Posted by: Edoman - 07-06-2019, 03:30 PM - No Replies

Rapper, Lanre Dabiri, popularly known as Eldee the Don, has said he doesn’t regret leaving the Nigerian music industry at all. In an interview with Saturday Beats, he noted that every area of his life had been affected positively by his decision to leave music. Eldee had previously announced that he was leaving the Nigerian music industry some years ago.

He said, “I made a conscious decision not to be an active musician in 2012. It wasn’t like I was trying and it wasn’t working. I realised that with the path that my music was taking me, I wouldn’t have time for my family and they are more important. Also I didn’t want to raise my children in the environment that I was in at the time; I needed to take them away because they had better options.

“I didn’t want to subject them to some challenges. The business side of music for me wasn’t making sense anymore; I realised that it was not something that was sustainable; it was not something I could do for the next 20 years; it was something that had to end at some point. Music wasn’t going to see me through retirement, so I decided to do something else.

“The other businesses I was doing outside of music was making more money for me at the time so I didn’t even need a forecast to make that decision; I realised music was taking 80 per cent of my time and the other things I was doing with my remaining 20 per cent were bringing in more money. It would be very foolish of me to dedicate 80 per cent of my time to music.

“I didn’t want to be that guy that people would post his story online that he needed money to treat himself. I am glad I made the decision when I did; I am in a much better place mentally, physically and financially. I don’t regret leaving the music industry. I miss the creative part, but I don’t miss all the troubles that come with being a Nigerian musician. I never would have been that guy to have baby mama issues; it is about character,” he told Saturday Beats.

Eldee recently talked about the bitter relationship that exists between artistes and record labels, via his podcast. When he was asked about the reason why he chose to do that, he noted that the relationship between record labels and artistes was important to the growth of the Nigerian music industry.

He said, “Music in Nigeria has hit the global stage; this was the dream that I had when I was starting out. It is not at its peak yet, because we need other artistes to do more tours globally. Music has really grown and it is doing a lot. The reason I started my own record label initially was because no one believed in my kind of music. I have never been in that position of being signed under a record label.

“However, l know a lot of people who have been in that situation; the reason I did the podcast was because I wanted to be sure I shared that perspective from a non-biased and unemotional position; a lot of times when we talk about these things- (artiste and record label relationship); it is always from an emotional standpoint; in the sense that everyone takes the position of the artiste because that is the person they are probably close to.

“Nobody looks at the business side of it and how it impacts the entire ecosystem. Our music is so powerful right now, that if the top labels come together, we can actually compete with some of the major labels internationally. But we don’t have one cohesive force to drive this to where it ought to be. The focus is not on the bitter relationship; it is on the fact that there needs to be a better understanding of how the music business works and why everyone needs to understand the role that they play in that ecosystem.

“If you understand how record labels work, when you are signed to one; your expectations of what the record label should do for the artistes and what they should do by themselves to be successful will be very clear. This is not clear to a lot of people. Some people think a record label is just a sponsor; an institution that is supposed to help them get out there.

“They forget that the record label is going to use their money and leverage their relationships and networks to get the artiste to that point and they are not doing that because they are a charity organisation. They are spending their own money because they are also a business venture.

“If people who want to invest in music recognise the fact that artistes after a year want to run away; then no one would invest in music and the entire music ecosystem will collapse; and unfortunately, that is what is happening.”

Eldee recently trended on social media after he made a post about how people should be mindful of what they read and the people they associate themselves with. Following this post, a social media user trolled him by saying his motivational post wasn’t relevant. Speaking with Saturday Beats, he noted that he made that post to create an awareness of what is most important in life.

He said, “I think I had one response; my response was that someone who doesn’t read cannot argue against reading. It is like someone judging a dish they have never tasted before. The reason why I stopped at that point is because people react that way when they do not understand some things.

“The post basically talked about how the books and the company you keep impact on your personality; I never said it was going to make the person rich. Anytime we talk about progress in Nigeria; they think it has to be related to money. I dropped the conversation because it was like an adult trying to have a conversation with a two-year-old.”

The rapper once made a tweet about how his song, ‘I am a big boy’ contributed to the rise in fraud amongst youths in Nigeria. When asked if he regretted ever producing the song, he said he had no regrets but would do things differently if he could.

“I don’t regret singing my song – ‘I am a big boy’; if I had the chance to do the same song now; I probably wouldn’t do it, based on what I know now. I don’t regret that I did it; it had its own impact. It is just that based on what I know now, I might have done it differently. I was embedded in the culture; it was a function of what I knew and understood at the time. That was all I knew and it is safe to say that I was appealing to my audience,” he said.

The Nigerian government has withdrawn the corruption charges it filed against Senator Danjuma Goje, over an alleged mismanagement of funds when he was the Governor of Gombe State.

The application to withdraw the corruption charges against Goje which was granted by a Federal High Court in Jos, came weeks after he agreed to step down for Ahmed Lawan as Senate President.

Daily Trust reported that an official from the office of the Attorney General of the Federation, Pius Akutah, filed the application to withdraw the charges against Mr Goje before the court on Friday.

Quote:“My Lord, we have an application having taken over the case and reviewed the 21 count charges of no submission and by the ruling of this court quashed 19 leaving only two count charges in which they are to enter defence.
“As it is, the Federal Ministry of Justice wishes to withdraw those two charges against the accused persons This action is in line with the power vested on the AGF by virtue of section 128 of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act 2015 particularly sub section 1 of that section (128).”
“It’s in accordance with the power vested on the AGF by the constitution that we wish to withdraw the charges before your Lordship. This is our humble application and urge your Lordship to grant our application,” the official reportedly said.
The application which was not opposed by Senator Danjuma Goje’s counsel, Adeniyi Akintola, was granted by Justice Babatunde Quadri.
Quote:“The application by the AGF to withdraw the charges is hereby granted. The accused persons are hereby discharged,” he said.

Snake man exposed as he came to attack Prophet Jeremiah Omoto Fufeyin

Jesus Christ is the head of all principalities and powers and has proven this by disgracing all the demons which comes to test God’s power even in the anointed servant of God, Prophet Jeremiah Omoto Fufeyin as they all fell on their knees and surrendered to the Almighty God.

During a prophetic Sunday service in Christ Mercyland Deliverance Ministry, Warri, Delta State, also called Mercy City alias ‘The Arena of Solution and Power,’ as the man of God was moving in the midst of the congregation ministering deliverance and prayer to them, he came across a certain man, Mr. Rufus Agbede from Ondo State. The man was aggressively trying to attack the prophet saying that he should stop spraying the water of life that his spirit rejected it.

Drama started when Mr. Agbede claimed to be the king of Sabrokay kingdom who has come to collect his subjects whom the prophet has delivered. He came prepared with three daring cobra snakes and a satellite calabash. He also claimed to have initiated 1,999 persons into the kingdom of darkness but came to initiate one person to make it 2,000 so that he will be promoted in his kingdom.

Immediately Prophet Jeremiah Omoto Fufeyin asked the congregation not to be afraid but plead the blood of Jesus and after an intense hour, the snake man surrendered to the God of Prophet Jeremiah Omoto Fufeyin, was delivered, he received salvation and financial blessing of N200, 000, a Bible, and an anointed t-shirt.

RHAPSODY OF REALITIES

SATURDAY, 6TH JULY.

THE RIGHT TIME TO PRAY AND FAST

Now Then came to him the disciples of John, saying, Why do we and the Pharisees fast oft, but thy disciples fast not? (Matthew 9:14).

In admonishing His disciples on fasting, the Lord Jesus cautioned, “Moreover when ye fast, be not, as the hypocrites, of a sad countenance: for they disfigure their faces, that they may appear unto men to fast. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward” (Matthew 6:16). The Lord’s remark was both thought-provoking and enlightening.

In the preceding verse 15, He had said, “…Can the children of the bridechamber mourn, as long as the bridegroom is with them? but the days will come, when the bridegroom shall be taken from them, and then shall they fast.” Here, He was referring to Himself returning to the Father in heaven. Moreover ever since His ascension, the Church has fasted—the disciples and apostles of the early Church fasted.

Prayer and fasting have been part of our spiritual activity as Christians. We fast when necessary. “When is it necessary to fast?” someone might ask.
First, when your local church or congregation proclaims a prayer and fasting programme, that’s a time to fast. Never isolate yourself from such a call, because it’s part of our corporate fellowship.

There’re things we do corporately, such as corporate worship, and many other things that are intended for spiritual growth and edification; prayer and fasting are among them.

Secondly, when you choose to fast and pray, or the Holy Spirit leads you to do so, don’t ignore it. That’s another great opportunity, especially if it’s the Spirit guiding you; and you’ll know when He’s the One leading you to fast.

Some people schedule prayer and fasting as a means for their own spiritual exercise, and that’s excellent. So, in whichever way and at whatever time you’re guided to fast, take it seriously. Make fasting and praying a part of your personal spiritual routine.
If, in your local assembly, the announcement is made for a praying and fasting session, don’t unilaterally decide you’re not going to be a part of it. Don’t, on your own, choose when you’ll break your fast. That’ll be wrong. Be disciplined to always get involved, being aware that the benefits are essential to your spiritual growth (1 Timothy 4:8).

Remember that through fasting and praying, your effectiveness in the things of the Spirit are improved. Your ability to hear and receive from God is sharpened, and you’re more attuned to the finer signals and instruction of the Spirit that you need for a higher level of life; a life of continuous glory and success!

CONFESSION

I’m sensitive to the leading of the Spirit, and His guidance in my life for my spiritual growth and development. My acts of service in the house of God will inspire commitment, growth and development of younger Christians, such that there will be no cause for stumbling for them, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.

#AFFIRMATIONTRAIN

6TH JULY.

I affirm that the knowledge of God’s Word has brought expansion into my life. My capacity, vision, dreams, and ideas have expanded. I have received an unusual grace and I expand by the power of the Holy Spirit. I grow stronger by the day, like a cedar in Lebanon, and flourish like the palm tree! I make progress by the Spirit,
and of my increase, greatness, and prosperity, there shall be no end!

My entire being is inundated with the life of God and I am blessed and empowered by the Spirit. I am set on the course on which I must follow and the Spirit of God is leading me in the path of perpetual victory, success, and prosperity. Hallelujah! This is my set time and I have moved to the next and higher level of glory.

The grace to expand has been released; I do not struggle but enjoy unstoppable growth and progress as I receive guidance and light from the Lord. I am enthroned; I am seated with Christ in heavenly places, far above all the hardships, troubles, perils and corrupting influences in the world. I dominate and triumph over circumstances today and always. Blessed be God!

God bless you

Health worker who slept with man she paid to kill her husband, arrested in Rivers State

A 41-year-old health worker who paid two men to kill her husband and started sleeping with one of them afterwards, has been arrested by operatives of the Inspector General of Police Special Intelligence Response Team.

Douglas Ajemine who works with the Rivers State Primary Healthcare Board in Asari-Toru Local Government Area, was arrested alongside one of the killers of her husband Kingsley Nna.  Upon her arrest, the lady who claimed her late husband, Inedugoba Tyger abused her sexually and physically, said she contracted the killers to stop the abuse.

Investigation into the murder, revealed that the mother of four who also claimed that her husband, Tyger, abandoned her after the abuse and moved into a new apartment in Port Harcourt with another woman, took Tyger's car after he was murdered to a nearby market.

She parked the vehicle at a place where it could be recovered and also sent text messages to his brothers with his mobile phone, informing them that he was travelling out of the state on a business trip.

Confessing to the crime, she said;

Quote:“I met my husband, Inedugoba Tyger, in December 2014 and we got married the following year. He had two children before I married him and he said that he needed me to help him take care of them.
“I accepted and moved into his house and I started taking care of his children but usually spent two weeks with his children after which I would move to my own house to be with my own children. That same year, he proposed that we should live together and I moved into his house with my second son. Soon, he lost his job and we relocated to our village in Buguma and his children were all staying in my house. By April 2016, my husband got some money from his former company and went to my family and paid my bride price.
“We then relocated to his family house and since he had no job, he became aggressive and abusive. Later, he started coming home to take things to sell and when I refused, he would beat me up and leave. Then I moved out of his house in Abalama and went to Port Harcourt.
“He traced me to where I was staying and tried to have sex with me in the passage of that house in January 2019. I approached Kingsley Nna and told him what I was facing in the hands of my husband and he promised to help out. Another time, my husband came to my place and tried to forcibly have sex with me, I called Kingsley (Nna) on the phone to come.
“He came with one of his friends and started beating my husband. I left them inside the house and when I returned, I was told that he had died. Kingsley warned me not to tell anyone or else he would kill me and my children. My husband’s body was buried close to our house.
“I later sold his phone for N15,000 and Kingsley started demanding money from me. I gave him N150,000 but he went ahead to start having sex with me. Not too long after then, officers of the IRT came and arrested me.”
Kingsley on the other hand, revealed that the health worker paid them N100,000 to kill her husband. He also alleged that he was pressurred into a sexual relationship with her, after the act.
Quote:“In December 2018, I met Ajemine and she told me and my friend, Sunny, that her husband was maltreating her. I told her that whenever the man came around, she should call us. One day, she called and said that she wanted us to beat the man. In January this year, she gave us N50,000 and said she would call us whenever the man was with her in Abalama.
“Some days later, she called us and said that her husband was with her but we couldn’t make it down to her place that day. On January 26, she called again in the afternoon and said the man was coming and that we should come and beat him.
“When we got there, we met the two of them naked, as if they had just finished making love. The room was dark and the woman put on a torch so that we would see the man on the bed. Sunny wrapped the man’s face with a wrapper and a pillow, then I started beating him.
“He woke up and started struggling. He removed what was used to tie his face, saw Sunny and recognised him. The two of them started speaking their Kalabari language. I don’t know what they were saying but Sunny insisted that we should kill the man since he had seen his face.
“I held him and Sunny strangled him. We informed the woman who was outside when this happened that her husband was dead but she said she didn’t instruct us to kill him. She gave us a shovel and showed us where to bury him. The next day, she called and gave us N30,000. That evening, she called and said she wanted me to make love to her.
“We met at a hotel and made love for two hours. One week later, we met again in that same hotel and made love again. We made love a third time before I stopped responding to her calls because she wanted to turn me to her new husband" he said.
The suspects will be charged to court after investigation has been concluded.

Photos: Orphaned Corps member who sponsored himself through university shot dead by armed robbers along Abuja-Kaduna highway

Bashir Bello shared the sad story of a Corps member who was shot dead by armed robbers along Abuja-Kaduna highway four days ago.

Usman Yunusa from Makarfi town, Kaduna state was orphaned at a tender age. By dint of hard work and determination, he sponsored himself through Bayero University Kano and graduated with a B.Sc. in Political Science.

He was posted to Cross River State for the compulsory one year national youth Service programme.  Yunusa was on his way to his hometown when they were ambushed by armed robbers along Abuja-Kaduna highway. While other passengers managed to escape,  he was hit by bullet fired by the robbers. Read the post below:

Quote:THE TRAGIC STORY OF USMAN YUNUSA
Makarfi is a sprawling town in Kaduna state and has produced prominent indigenes amongst whom was the former two-term Kaduna State governor Ahmed Mohammed Makarfi. The town work up to with the tragic story of the death of a young man most loved by many for his good character and conduct. It was indeed a day of mourning for the community as they come to term with the reality of his sudden demise.
Usman Yunusa was a native of Makarfi town. Orphaned at a tender age, he struggled throughout his life to make ends meet. He was hardworking and industrious. He saw through his education by dint of hard work sponsoring himself up to the university, where he graduated from Bayero University Kano with a B.Sc. in Political Science. His joy at graduation knew no bound as he clad himself in his ceremonial gown to receive his well-earned degree.
He was posted to Cross-River for his Youth Service earlier this yer, but unknown to him, not only joy, but his life would come to a tragic end. Three days ago, on their way to Makarfi from Cross-River, they were attacked by daredevil ar,ed robbers along the Notorious Rijana Junction by Abuja-Kaduna highway, where he was hit by a bullet fired by the robbers.
He was fast asleep at the time the bullet hit him and he passed away from his sleep. The incident, which occurred at around 3:am was as anyone could have imagined. One of the survivors of the atack narrated that they ran into the armed robbers who laid an ambush and suddenly came under fire without any provocation. At the time, the victim was fast asleep. They only noticed thst he was hit after they managed to escape from the robbers. He did not even move from his sleeping position when he was hit.
The sad really of this tale is that the tragic story of this struggling young man did not even made a headline in our tabloids.
He has since been laid to rest. May his soul rest in peace Amen.

The Port Harcourt Zonal Office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has secured the conviction of five oil thieves for illegal dealing in petroleum products.

The convicts who were charged before Justice I.M. Sani of the Federal High Court, Port Harcourt, Rivers State, include: Tajudeen Kolawole, Jamal Lawan, Aljahi Usman Wada, Godiya James and Rufus Animi.

Wada, James and Animi were arraigned on July 3, 2019 while Kolawole and Lawan were arraigned on July 4, 2019. The charge against Wada reads:
“That you, Alhaji Usman Wada on or about the 6th of August, 2017 at Port Harcourt within the jurisdiction of this Honorable Court did distribute petroleum products (AGO) conveyed in a white DAF truck with registration number RNG 496 XA and thereby committed an offence contrary to section 4(1) of Petroleum Act, Cap P10, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria (LFN) 2004 and punishable under Section 4(6) of the Same Act.”
He pleaded “guilty” to the one-count charge.

In view of his plea, counsel for the EFCC, M.T. Iko prayed the court to convict and sentence him accordingly. Defence counsel, A.M. Eyan did not oppose the prayer.
Justice Sani thereafter convicted and sentenced Wada to one year in prison with an option of fine of N100,000 and ordered that the products conveyed in the truck be forfeited to the Federal Government.
The judge also ordered that the truck involved in the case be returned to the owner. The charge against James reads:
“That you, Godiya James sometimes in April 2019 at Port Harcourt within the jurisdiction of this Honorable Court did distribute about 80 nylon bags of petroleum products (AGO) conveyed in truck with registration number MKD 172 ZN and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 4(1) of Petroleum Act, Cap P10, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria (LFN) 2004 and punishable under Section 4(6) of the Same Act"
He pleaded “guilty” to the charge.
In view of his plea, counsel for the EFCC, F.O. Amama prayed the court to convict and sentence him accordingly.
Defence counsel, A.M. Saliu did not oppose the prayer.

Justice Sani thereafter convicted and sentenced him to one year in prison with an option of fine of N100,000 and ordered that the products conveyed in the truck be forfeited to the Federal Government. The judge also ordered that the truck involved in the case be returned to the owner.

The charge against Animi reads: “That you, Rufus Animi, sometimes in May, 2019, in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, within the jurisdiction of this honourable court did distribute 40 drums of petroleum products (Automated Gas Oil) without a licence and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 4(1) of the Petroleum Act, CAP P10 Laws of the Federation of Nigeria (LFN) 2004, and punishable under Section 4(6) of the same Act.”
He pleaded “guilty” to the charge.

In view of his plea, counsel for the EFCC, Samuel Chime urged the court to convict and sentence him accordingly.

Defence counsel, Babatunde Okpadola, however urged the court to temper justice with mercy. Justice Sani, thereafter, convicted and sentenced Animi to two years in prison with an option of fine of N50,000.

The charge against Kolawole reads: “That you, Tajudeen Kolawole, being the driver onboard a green Toyota Camry with Registration Number APP 988 BE Lagos State on or about the 21th day of June, 2019 at Port Harcourt, Rivers State, within the jurisdiction of this Honorable Court dealt in petroleum products to wit: transporting 48 nylon bags of Automotive Gas Oil (AGO) without appropriate licence or authority and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 4 (1) of the Petroleum Act CAP P10 of the Revised Edition (Laws of the Federation of Nigeria) 2007 and punishable under Section 4(6) of the same Act.”
He pleaded “guilty” to the charge.
Counsel for the EFCC, Ramiah Ikahanede and defence counsel, Adeyemi Adekunle agreed on the convict’s guilty plea.

Justice Sani, thus, convicted and sentenced him to a fine of N50,000.
The charge against Lawan reads: “That you, Kamal Lawan on or about September 2018, in Port Harcourt within the jurisdiction of this Honorable Court did distribute petroleum products (Automotive Gas Oil) without a licence and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 4(1) of Petroleum Act, CAP P10, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria (LFN) 2004 and punishable under Section 4(6) of the same Act.”
He pleaded “guilty” to the one-count charge.

In view of his plea, counsel for the EFCC, Samuel Chime prayed the court to convict and sentence him accordingly.

Defence counsel, Babatunde Opadola did not oppose the prayer.
Subsequently, Justice Sani convicted and sentenced him to two years in prison with an option of fine of N100,000 and ordered that the products conveyed in the truck be forfeited to the Federal Government.

‘Oil firms flared $2.5b worth of gas’

 July 4, 2019

Oil producing companies in Nigeria have flared gas worth $2.5billion (N875billion) in the last one year, The Nation has learnt.

The firms include the International Oil Companies (IOCs), Independent Producers and the Nigerian Petroleum Development Company (NPDC).

Data from the Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR), revealed that volume of gas that was not commercialised (flared or re-injected) in March 2019 alone rose to 42 per cent.

Corroborating the DPR data, AfriPERA, an Energy and Infrastructure Policy research organisation, said that Nigeria lost an average of N875 billion ($2.5 billion) between March 2018 and March 2019 from gas flaring.

The company’s Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Chinedu Onyeizu said, said the loss, was aside the unattended impact of negative externalities associated with gas flaring.

“Since the 1950s, Nigeria has been burning off its natural gas at flare points and, despite efforts by successive administrations to curtail the wastage, the country loses an estimated 2.5 billion dollars each year to gas flaring as well as the unattended impact of negative externalities associated to gas flaring,’’ he said.

Also, the Chairman, Oil Producers Trade Section (OPTS), Paul McGrath, explained in a reaction to gas production, that gas provides a unique opportunity to provide steady, widely-available, cost-effective and generally affordable power to Nigerians.

He added that a shift to gas-fuelled power generation would represent significant savings opportunities over sources such as diesel, which is multiple times more expensive than gas at the current price of $2.5/mmbtu.

Gas production, according to the DPR report, increased by 15.4per cent at 263.48billion cubic feet compared to the output in proceeding period of February 2019.

This translated to an average daily production of 8,499.58 million standard cubic feet of gas per day (mmscfd). Out of the volume of gas supplied in March 2019, 155.01bcf of gas was commercialised, consisting of 40.35bcf, and 111.66bcf for the domestic and export markets.

The report indicated that 58.81 per cent of the average daily gas produced was commercialised, while the balance of 41.19 was re-injected, used as upstream fuel gas or flared recorded gas flaring.

The Senate had, on April 18, passed a new bill, which provided for a penalty against gas flaring and other malpractices in the oil and gas sector. Prior to this, Associated Gas Re-Injection Act of 1979 was in place to check sharp practices in the sector. Since then, there has been no review or amendment of the Act despite its devastating effect on the host communities, until April this year, when the Senate passed a new bill on gas flaring.

One of the highlights of the new Bill is that any licensee who supplies inaccurate data to the Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR) or to any other lawful authority will be liable, upon conviction, to a fine of N10 million or be committed to prison for a term of six months or both.

Other objectives of the Bill include ensuring that natural gas is not flared or vented in any oil and gas production operation, block or field, onshore or offshore, or any gas facility, which shall commence operations after the commencement of the Act.

The Bill also seeks to ensure that no operator establishes an Oil and Gas facility in the country without first obtaining authorisation from the Minister for the design, commissioning and production phases. The Bill comprises 22 sections including sections on punishment for the supply of inaccurate data, the gas flaring penalty fee, powers of the minister to make regulations, as well as a repeal of the Associated Gas Re-injection Act 1979.

Sponsor of the Bill, Senator Bassey Albert, said: “The approval of the long-awaited legislation on gas flaring after 40 years is one of the best parting gifts, the 8th Senate could possibly offer Nigerians at this time.”

UN probes IPOB, Shiites’ killings

The United Nations Human Rights Office in Geneva, Switzerland, has raised questions over the Zaria killings, which it said claimed the lives of 350 persons and those of members of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB.

The development followed the Human Rights Committee review of civil and political rights situation in Nigeria. The Committee also noted with concern, rampant corrupt activities in the country.

The Office of the High Commissioner, United Nations Human Rights, in a statement published on its website, Friday, said: “The Human Rights Committee concluded today its review of the implementation of the provisions of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights in Nigeria.”

It noted that the Permanent Representative of Nigeria to the United Nations Office in Geneva, Ambassador Audu Ayinla Kadiri, in his opening remarks, said the composition of the Nigerian delegation was a testimony to its commitment to the implementation of the Covenant. The Nigerian delegation consisted of representatives of the Federal Ministry of Justice, Ministry of the Interior, Ministry of Defence, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Office of the National Security Adviser, National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons, the Department of State Services, Federal Ministry of Women Affairs and the Permanent Mission of Nigeria to the United Nations Office in Geneva.

Kadiri apologized for Nigeria’s inability to submit its second periodic report, adding that the country had implemented many initiatives to improve the effectiveness, accessibility, accountability, transparency and fairness of the justice system such as the development of justice sector reform action plans and the establishment of judicial research and training centres.

“The Nigerian Government was firmly committed to promote and protect the human rights of Nigerians. While much had been done in this regard, across a broad range of fields, the government acknowledged that challenges remained,” Kadiri reportedly said during the meeting.

But the Office of the High Commissioner, United Nations Human Rights, said the Committee experts thanked the delegation for their presence and stressed that the purpose was to find common ground so that the Committee could formulate recommendations to help the government to move forward.

“They pointed out that corruption remained rampant and that implementation of the legislation was weak. They also asked the delegation to comment on recent events, notably the killing of people in Biafra region and the killing of 350 people in Zaria, in Kaduna province.

“Experts asked if there was a law that prohibited discrimination that would cover direct and intersected forms of discrimination. Was the Government considering repealing article 214 of the criminal code which criminalized sexual acts between persons of the same sex? What measures were in place to address the discriminatory effects of legislation on polygamy and repudiation?” the United Nations Human Rights Office said.

Kadiri however said in his concluding remarks that the dialogue between the committee and the Nigerian delegation had been interesting and illuminating and that the delegation had done its best to answer the experts’ questions.

“All is well that ends well,” Kadiri stated, adding that the delegation and the Committee shared a common purpose. “The delegation looked forward to cooperating further with the Committee,” Kadiri added.

Ahmed Amin Fathalla, Committee Chair, in his concluding remarks, thanked the delegation. “He recalled that parties to international legal instruments had to abide by their obligations. It had been a fruitful debate,” Fathalla said.

Igbo Youths Declare Intention To Commence Cattle Rearing
User Avatar Forum: General Discussion
Posted by: Edoman - 07-06-2019, 05:56 AM - No Replies

In a bid to find a lasting a solution to herdsmen-farmers’ clashes in the South East, the Ohanaeze Youth Council (OYC) has passionately appealed to governors in the zone to provide funds for farmers in the zone to indulge in cattle business and other livestock farming.

In a press statement issued by the national president of OYC, Igboayaka O Igboayaka, and made available to our correspondent in Owerri, the group contended that if such assistance was rendered by the governors, it would not only encourage indigenous cattle rearing in the zone but also reduce unemployment.

He also noted that the idea would end the constant herdsmen and farmers’ incidents in the zone.

According to the statement “in view of the raging war in these past years arising from settling of cattle herders in the South East and South-South regions, the Ohanaeze Youth Council, OYC, ably led by Comrade Igboayaka O Igboayaka, has seen reasons to urge governors of the Igbo extraction, to mobilise funds and empower indigenous farmers in the region to embark on a large-scale rearing of cattle and other livestock, using the ranching method for adequate production of milk and meat to meet the agricultural needs of our people.

“To break the ethnic monopoly of the livestock business since it has grown to become a problem for all, our governors must step in swiftly to grant loans to our local farmers who engage in cattle ranching. We must break this monopoly, not only to sanitise and upgrade the livestock business and make it more rewarding, but also to put an end to this imperialist, wanton killings and territorial claims.

The statement further reads: “OYC believes that this system will definitely improve the quality and safety of the beef and diary products suitable for export and our local consumption.

“On that note, the OYC is urging the Igbo governors to establish modern ranches to be operated by indigenes of their respective states and any other Nigerian who decides to key into it by meeting the requirements for enlistment. It will also go a long way in eradicating the dangers of nomadic cattle rearing if the governors would work together to reinvent the defunct Eastern Region’s ranches that were destroyed during the Biafra-Nigeria war.

“It is sad that after the war, the entire southern Nigeria appeared to have given up on agriculture as a business allowing the North to take the initiative. While we were growing up, we learnt of the Obudu Cattle Ranch and other ranches from where local varieties of livestock such as cows, goats and sheep were reared. These varieties which were indigenous to the evergreen vegetation zones were much more nutritious and highly prized than their lean and long-legged Sahelian counterparts. In fact, the northern livestock were generally looked down upon as inferior to the southern breeds.

“For instance, when you hear an Igbo chief hailed “Ogbu efi” the cow so referred to does not refer to the Sahelian, long-legged cows which today trample our farms and gorge on our crops. It refers to the shorter but heavier forest oxen which you do not find on the roadside butcher’s table. It is a delicacy for specialized ceremonies reserved for titled chiefs and those around them. Before the war, people kept those local varieties of livestock as the subsistent business behind their backyards. It is time we went back to this practice.

“Beyond the subsistence level, state governments in Igbo land can establish ranches and parcel out portions for the youth who are interested in livestock farming to embrace them. These youths should be trained to run these ranches as profitable businesses modeled on best practices around the world. Improved varieties of this livestock should be able to supply meat and dairy products that will make preferred alternatives to the nomadic Fulani cattle.

“Therefore, our governors must help our indigenous farmers by investing in cattle rearing and drive innovation in the agricultural sector as the high demand for beef in our states guarantees good returns on the investment. If this is done and the laws against open-grazing are firmly enforced in Igbo land, there will be no more room for armed pastoral militias and their sponsors seeking to steal other people’s ancestral lands under any guise of cattle colony or Ruga settlement,” the statement said.

As the body Botanica Pure Keto begins to convert fat to muscle mass, you may find that you stay the same weight or even gain. This is not cause for alarm- it is a good sign. The Apex court this morning dismissed the appeal of PDP candidate, Ademola Adeleke, and affirmed the election of APC's Gboyega Oyetola.

A statement signed by the the spokesperson of the Osun state chapter of the APC, Barrister Kunle Oyatomi, reads

Quote:“God has used the highest legal authority of the land to proclaim the truth that Oyetola lawfully won. And that is historic. Our fears for the calamity that might have befallen the state of Osun, if the PDP had been declared winner, have now been assuaged.”

Those who think this is the end of the road for Senator Adeleke and PDP in Osun, are greatly mistaken' - Atiku reacts to Supreme court ruling

Former vice president, Atiku Abubakar has reacted to the latest supreme court ruling in the Osun State governorship tussle.

The Supreme court this morning declared Gboyega Oyetola as the rightful winner of the disputed election thus putting an end to the legal battle.

Atiku in his reaction said, 'I join with people of goodwill all over Nigeria to say to Senator Ademola Adeleke, and the people of the great state of Osun, that we stand with them in good times and in difficult days. The Supreme Court has ruled and because of its judicial finality, the legal case is over'.

Quote:However, the love, acceptance and endorsement that the people of Osun bestowed on both Senator Adeleke and the PDP is not over and cannot be overlooked. Those who think this is the end of the road for Senator Adeleke and the PDP in Osun, are greatly mistaken. This is not the end. Not even the beginning of the end. No. Today marks the continued ascendancy of Senator Adeleke and his party in the hearts and minds of his people.
The great people of Osun had expected that the progress and development that the Adeleke family had consistently brought to Osun will be translated to their governance. That hope is not dead. Only delayed.
I extend my right hand of brotherhood to Senator Adeleke in all his future endeavours and I assure the good people of the state of Osun that the Peoples Democratic Party remembers their love and acceptance and will never forget to stand by them no matter the situation.
Finally, I urge the nation’s judiciary to take a pulse of the nation and reflect it. In their hands, God has placed a great responsibility. The duty to ensure that justice is done, irrespective of the pressure to do otherwise, by the powers that be.

This means a realistic weight loss goal is between 30-40 pounds in a 3-4 month period. If you have 100 lbs. to lose for example, you will need more than one nutrition program to reach this goal.  slim x genie keto   If you need more than one diet program, do not plan on doing one right after another as you will have diminishing returns. For large amounts of weight to lose, string several diet programs together with short breaks in between. For example, if you have to lose 100 lbs., plan on doing so with three 12 week programs spaced 10 days - 2 weeks apart. To accomplish this, take a break from low calorie eating during the down times however continue to eat the food on your diet, just in larger portions. Expect to put on 5-8 pounds in between diet plans and account for this in your overall weight loss strategy. If you need several diets like this to achieve your goals, sketch out the big plan on a one year calendar but only worry about details of each program as you're getting ready to execute it.

The Tireless General of God as he’s fondly called during a general meeting with his workers decided to appreciate men and women who work tirelessly in various departments in the ministry to ensure the work of God is done one way or the other financially despite the daily stress they encounter in the course of performing their duties especially after a hectic 5-days "I must carry my Samuel and Mid-year cross over" programme.

“I am blessing you financial so that you will be encouraged to give your best and not get carried away because appreciation is application for more. We need to do good in the house of God, pray without ceasing, sacrifice without complaining, live a Christ like life and be a good ambassador of the ministry. As workers in the vineyard be of good behaviour as the money is a token of my appreciation for the good works you've been doing. I love and appreciate you all and don’t relent in your service" he said.
