A video of an advertisement van that was carrying half Unclad dancing girls at the Lekki toll gate went viral this morning. The Lagos State Signage and Advertisement Agency has now suspended the license of the firm that owns the van.

The Lagos State Signage & Advertisement Agency(LASAA) has suspended, pending final investigation, the practicing Licence of an advertising firm, Provision Media System Limited, over indecent advertisement around the Lekki/Ikoyi toll gate.

A statement signed by the Managing Director of LASAA, Mr. Mobolaji Sanusi, on Saturday, said the unregistered mobile advertising truck which had no valid registration for the current year 2019 was “illegally deployed in engaging in abysmally debasing projection of semi-nude women for several hours around the Lekki/Ikoyi toll gate.”

LASAA said a check on its records for the current year 2019 confirmed that the truck with Lagos State plate number APP713XL was not registered with the agency for the deplorable purpose for which it was deployed by the company on Saturday.

“We wish to state, without equivocation that, no outdoor mobile advert truck within the jurisdiction of our dear state is licensed to display such crass immorality of the calibre that the owner(s) of this unregistered truck exhibited on our roads over the weekend”, the agency said.

The agency warned that “the government of Lagos State, under the leadership of Governor Babajide Sanwoolu, has zero tolerance for any slightest attempt by anyone, under whatever guise, to debase the moral fabric of our dear state. Nobody/company can hide under the guise of engaging in outdoor advertising business to display obscenity that is antithetical to our cherished cultural and moral values.”

It added that the full weight of the law, as enshrined in the agency’s extant law, will be meted on the company owning this erring outdoor mobile truck after due investigations must have been concluded.

LASAA also assured members of the public that the agency would henceforth scrutinise activities of mobile trucks to forestall a recurrence of such an avoidable obscenity.

“The state under Governor Babajide Sanwoolu will not in any ramification condone the use of outdoor advertisement structures, whether static or mobile, to perpetrate illegally obscene activities,” it added.

Leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, has spoken against the arrest of the publisher of SaharaReporters, Omoyele Sowore, calling on President Muhammadu Buhari to ensure his immediate release.

Sowore, also a former presidential candidate, was arrested early Saturday by security operatives suspected to be from the Department of State Security (DSS).

The arrest is believed to be connected to the #RevolutionNow protests which is set to commence nationwide on August 5.

Ghanaian police retrieves corpses of 'Takoradi missing girls' abducted by a Nigerian from septic tank






Corpses of the 3 Takoradi Girls Ruthlove Quayson, Priscilla Blessing Bentum and Priscilla Koranchie declared missing between August-December 2018, have been found in septic tank embedded in a property which was previously occupied by the key kidnap suspect Samuel Udoetuk-Wills. 
 
The corpses were retrieved from a septic tank at Kasaworodo a suburb of Takoradi on Friday night August 2, after a search was conducted by the Ghanaian police with the aid of sniffer dogs.
 

 
Ghana's local media reported that the Nigerian kidnapper Samuel Udoetuk-Wills, allegedly led the police to the area located near the hostel of the Methodist Girls Senior High School and it was subsequently cordoned off at about 5:30 pm with the help of officers of the Prisons Service. 
 

 
In a statement issued by the Head of Public Affairs Unit of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) DSP Juliana Obeng, the police said "the discovered human remains would be sent to the forensic science laboratory of the Ghana police service for analysis and further investigation."

University lecturer abducted by unknown gunmen in Kaduna State






Abubakar Idris, a lecturer at the Federal University Dutsinma Katsina has been abducted by hoodlums.  
 
He was abducted in his residence at No. 41A Lawal Aliyu Road, Barnawa area in Kaduna metropolis  The Kaduna State Police Command Public Relations Officer, DSP Yakubu Sabo confirmed the incident saying the command received information through DPO Barnawa Division Kaduna that two unidentified persons gained entrance into Idris residence.

Yesterday, pro government protesters mounted a demonstration outside the Abuja office of Amnesty International.

We learnt from the rights body’s officials that the demonstrators arrived at about noon on Friday and demanded its immediate exit from Nigeria for being critical of Buhari's Administration.

The demonstrators also held placards critical of Amnesty International and chanted disparaging songs against the rights group.

The protest comes hours after reports emerged on social media that the government was planning to target Amnesty International and blacklist the group as a threat to Nigeria’s sovereignty amidst allegation that it was sympathetic to an upcoming nationwide protest.

The nationwide protest, tagged ‘RevolutionNow’, was planned by Yele Sowore, a media personality, activist and politician. The protest had been planned to commence on August 5 in at least 21 cities across the country.

Friday’s protest against Amnesty International is not the first against the global rights group.

Nigeria facing new Boko Haram threat – Buhari






President Buhari raised an alarm over the new Boko Haram threat the country is facing in his address at the graduation ceremony of the National Defence College Course 27 on Friday August 2. 
 
The President further revealed that the Boko Haram insurgents lost their insurgency campaign, became factionalised and mutated into a new form of terrorist threat.

FG shifts closure of Lagos-Ibadan Expressway to September 2






Motorists and commuters that ply the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway can now heave a sigh of relief as the Federal Government has moved the proposed partial closure of portions of the road to September 2nd.
 
The partial closure which was originally scheduled to begin by August 3rd, is to enable the Federal government carry out repairs on the 1.4km stretch of the road between Berger and Kara Market.
 
The Federal Controller of Works, Lagos, Mr Adedamola Kuti, in a statement released yesterday August 2nd, said the  postponement followed complaints by Nigerians on the inconvenience they would experience during next week’s Eid El Kabir festival and the   annual convention of the Redeemed Christian Church of God.
 
Kuti said the shift is also to enable the Federal government make adequate plans for effective traffic management when the closure of the road takes effect on September 2nd.

Omoyele Sowore arrested by DSS






Omoyele Sowore, the publisher of Sahara Reporters, has been arrested by men of the Department of State Security, DSS.
 
According to reports by Sahara Reporters, Omoyele was arrested in his apartment in the early hours of today Saturday August 3rd. The DSS invaded his apartment with four trucks, seizing his phones and other electronic gadgets. His whereabouts is currently unknown.
 
Sowore posted a distress tweet at exactly 1:25 am with an eyewitness confirming that his phone was forcefully taken from him. His tweet reads

Being born again, you’re born after the Second Adam, Jesus Christ; you were created after Him in righteousness and true holiness. 2 Corinthians 5:17 says, “Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature….” This new creature is born anew after the image of God (Colossians 3:10). Thus, you’re a new person, with the God-nature.

This is the reason you can imitate Christ. No matter how much you train a monkey or a chimpanzee to act like a human, it can never be human, because it doesn’t have the human nature. To be human, you have to be born that way.

Recall the seven sons of Sceva, who attempted to copy Paul, by casting out devils, even though they weren’t born again. They didn’t have the Christ-life in them. The Bible says, “And the man in whom the evil spirit was leaped on them, and overcame them, and prevailed against them, so that they fled out of that house naked and wounded” (Acts 19:16).

Only those who are born again and have the nature of God, have the right and authority to cast out devils in the Name of Jesus. Jesus cast out devils; and He gave us the authority to do the same. He said in John 14:12, “Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do….”

In addition, you’re to emulate Him in your lovewalk. Ephesians 5:2 says, “And walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us, and hath given himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweetsmelling savour.” Express love to those in your world, whether or not you think they deserve it. That’s being like your heavenly Father. The Bible says, “That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust” (Matthew 5:45). The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC Ilorin Zonal Office on August 2, 2019 secured the conviction Olorunwa Okikiola and Adebisi Toheeb, both students of the Kwara State Polytechnic, Ilorin for offences bordering on internet fraud.

The Charge against Olorunwa reads: “That you, Olorunwa Okikiola, sometimes in June 2019 or thereabout at Ilorin, Kwara State within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court attempted to commit an offence by pretending and representing yourself to be a white man in love with a white woman, Pearl Mills as it is contained in your gmail account:Okikiola293@gmail.com and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 95 and 321 of the same Penal Code law and punishable under Section 322 of the same law.”

The charge against Adebisi reads: “That you, Adebisi Toheeb Adedayo, (alias James Read) sometimes in January 2019, at Ilorin within the judicial division of the High Court, did attempt to cheat by personation, when you pretended to be one James Read , a white Caucasian male, with gmail account,James.read086@gmail.com and in a love relationship, a representation you knew to be false and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 95 of the Penal Code and punishable under Section 324 of the same Penal Code.”

Olorunwa was convicted and sentenced to six months imprisonment by Justice Sikiru Oyinloye while Adebisi was sentenced to six months imprisonment by Justice Mahmood Abdulgafar, both of the Kwara State High Court, sitting in Ilorin.

They were also ordered to forfeit mobile phones recovered from them to the Federal Government, while authorities at the Madala Prison were ordered to facilitate how Adedayo would write his second semester examination.

27-year old man gets 10-years for knowingly infecting three women of HIV






A Florida man has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for knowingly spreading HIV.  
 
27-year-old Rasheem Ikey Bodiford was convicted of having sex with another person without notifying them that he had HIV, the virus that leads to AIDS. Prosecutors say Bodiford had sex with two women from September 2016 to October 2017 and lied about his condition.  
 
Back in April, a penalty procedure hearing was held to decide if Bodiford was a danger to the public, and a jury found that he was.  “He had HIV, he knew he had HIV and he had sexual intercourse with partners without letting them know his status. The crime is the fact he had it, he knew he had it, and he knew he had to inform his partner and he failed to do so” Monica Daniels, assistant state attorney in Escambia County said.
 
Daniels says Bodiford became aware of his HIV-positive status in 2015 and engaged in sexual intercourse with the three victims between Sept. 2016 and October 2017. One of the victims told police she acquired HIV after having sex with Bodiford. She said she saw Bodiford with HIV drugs but he told her that he was selling them for his uncle.  
 
The second woman said she had been dating Bodiford since June 2017 and he never notified her of his HIV-positive status. The third woman started dating him in Oct. 2017. She found out about his HIV status after she saw it on the news.

Protesters storm Amnesty International office, demand they leave Nigeria






Protesters have reportedly besieged the Amnesty International office in Abuja, demanding that the human rights group leave Nigeria just after they were allegedly placed on security watchlist by the Federal Government. 
 
Isa Sanusi, a spokesperson for Amnesty International Nigeria confirmed the protest and also told Premium Times that the protesters appeared to be pro-government as they were angry with the group's criticism of the Buhari-led administration. 
 
Chanting denigrating songs, the protesters also held placards that were unsympathetic with Amnesty International. 
 

 
We reported earlier that Amnesty International was placed on security watchlist by the Presidency ahead of a nationwide “revolution” protest scheduled for August 5 and promoted through #RevolutionNow. The human rights group was labeled anti-government for retweeting the notice of revolution which the Presidency claimed is aimed at overthrowing the constitution.

General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has announced the kidnap of five pastors of the church.

Adeboye disclosed this on Friday during a talk at the Redeemed Camp along Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

The pastors were on their way to attend the church’s ministers’ conference in Lagos.

Adeboye said the abduction took place on Thursday along the Ijebu-Ode axis.

He charged the congregation to pray for the release of the abductees, saying it was the first time such incident was happening.

“As a father, how do you think I should feel to hear that five of my children have been kidnapped while on their way to attend the Ministers Conference?” he asked.

The Biafra Nations Youth League, BNYL, has issued a 20-day ultimatum to Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore, Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association, MACBAN, and Fulani Nationality to leave the South-East and South-South immediately.

Linus Essien, BYNL Chief of Staff in Cross River State issued the warning in a statement forwarded to DAILY POST, on Friday.

Essien also warned of a “danger” if Miyetti Allah does not stop the Fulani Militia operating in the South.”

He also called on Miyetti Allah to end violence across the South-East and South-South or “face reprisal actions because BNYL is ready to revolt against the Islamist extremists.”

Essien said: “The attacks will lead to reprisals if by 20 days the Miyetti Allah fails to withdraw the Militia operating in the South.

“We have been following the situations especially States bordering the north like Cross River, Delta, Enugu and Ebonyi are easily penetrated, and if something urgent is not done they will take total control of our land and even invade Bakassi to conquer us as a people”.

Reno Omokri has fired shots at the general overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God RCCG, Pastor E.A. Adeboye, who has called on Nigerians to pray for five pastors of his church who were abducted while on their way to the church's Ministers' Conference yesterday August 1st.

Pastor Adeboye who announced the abduction of the clergymen at the church's camp ground along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway today Friday August 2nd, called for prayers for the abducted Pastors to regain their freedom. 

Reacting to Adeboye's comment, Reno in a post on his IG page, said if Adeboye had spoken up when other Nigerians were abducted, maybe his clergyemn would not have been abducted. He made particular reference to Leah Sharibu whom he said Adeboye has never spoken publicly about.

An official with the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) at the Yola International Airport (name withheld) is being interrogated by the police over the theft of $600 from two pilgrims travelling to Saudi Arabia through the airport.

It was gathered on Thursday that the officer, a woman, was found with the money when she was checked following an alarm by her two victims who each said that $300 was missing from their basic travelling allowance (BTA) after the female officer searched them for prohibited items prelude to their clearance for takeoff.

One of the airport security operatives, who spoke on condition of anonymity, disclosed that following the incident, which occurred on Monday, an in-house investigation was conducted on the female officer, following which the total $600 and another N1,500 was found in her artificial hair.


The airport security source said: “At the initial stage when she was interrogated, she pretended that she didn’t commit any theft on the intending pilgrims. She insisted that nothing like money was on her.

“But to the surprise of us all at the investigation room, the said monies were traced concealed in her hair covered with official barrette.”

The Yola Airport Manager, Adamu Sheilk, who spoke on the incident, said he had forwarded the case to FAAN’s corporate headquarters for a final decision.

The spokesman of the Adamawa State Police Command, DSP Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje, confirmed the development, saying that the FAAN officer in question was being interrogated by the Criminal Investigation Department (CUD).

Some soldiers have allegedly raped a female student ( name withheld) of the Adekunle Ajasin University , Akungba Akoko .

The incident allegedly happened on Wednesday evening at the military checkpoint at Ikare Akoko in Akoko North -East Local Government Area of Ondo State.

According to a source, the soldiers , who were attached to the Ikare Akoko checkpoint, allegedly raped the lady, a 300 -level student at AAUA , while she was returning from the campus.

The source, who identified one of the soldiers , alleged that the soldiers took turns to sexually assault the victim.

He said one of the soldiers at the checkpoint allegedly ordered the victim to get down from a vehicle she and others were travelling in, and took her into a cubicle at the back of the checkpoint where the soldiers allegedly forcefully had sex with her.

A student of the institution who witnessed the incident but who did not want her name in print for fear of intimidation and harassment confirmed the incident .

She said, “ We went to Ikare Police Station to report the incident and then rushed her to Ondo State Specialist Hospital , Ikare -Akoko , for examination and treatment .

“ As I’ m talking to you , she is at the hospital and doctors confirmed that she was raped . ”

The eyewitness said it was not the first time such a thing would be happening at the military checkpoint in the town .

A Police source at the Ikare Police Station , who confirmed that the incident was reported at the station around 7 : 15 p . m . on Wednesday , said the Police had stepped into the matter .

The source confirmed that the name of a Lance Corporal was mentioned in the statement written by the complainant .

“ The matter was reported here, but I won ’ t say more on it . When we complete our investigation , it would be sent to the headquarters in Akure, ” he stated .

When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer of the Ondo State Command, Mr. Femi Joseph, however , said he was not aware of the incident .

The management of the AAUA said it had commenced investigation into the matter and had constituted a panel of inquiry to examine the allegation .

The Head of Media and Protocol Unit of the university , Mr. Victor Akinpelumi , confirmed that the management of the institution was aware of the incident and had initiated an investigation into it .

Chief Ayiri Emami, the Ologbotsere (traditional Prime Minister) of Warri Kingdom on Friday urged elder statesman, Chief Edwin Clark to stop interfering in the politics of Edo State saying he is shocked by the comments he made on the political crisis rocking the state.

It will be recalled that Clark had faulted the ultimatum the two chambers of the National Assembly to the Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, to issue a fresh proclamation on the inauguration of the state House of Assembly or risk a take over of the Assembly.

He said the directive from the federal lawmakers was unconstitutional.

However speaking with journalists on Friday evening, Ayiri, who is a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) described Clark’s statement as unfortunate.

Accusing the former Minister of Information of taking sides, Ayiri said Clark should have advised Obaseki to comply with the laws of the land rather than encouraging him to continue his illegality on the inauguration of the Edo State House of Assembly.

” When I read what Chief Clark said, I felt very disappointed because he is an elder statesman and he should know the laws more than many of us”.

” In 2015 I recall that Chief Clark never supported Governor Obaseki so if Obaseki is trying to be very ungrateful to people that brought him to power, I think as a father, Chief Clark should have advised him better, not to cause chaos in Edo state because Edo and Delta are still the same”.

“I expected him to call Obaseki and advise him as a father but he did not do that, rather he took side immediately. Let me tell you, there is nothing about Edo state that we don’t know, the National Assembly has it as a duty to intervene in any state Assembly that has crisis”.

” So, for anybody to fault that move is unfortunate and that Is why I am shocked with the comment made by Chief EK Clark”.

“All of us knew how Obaseki became governor of Edo state, he was never a politician. It was Oshiomhole who made him governor against all odds. Oshiomhole offended many people loyal to him just because he wanted to make Obaseki governor”.

“So it is unfortunate that today, the governor sees himself as a thin god, exhibiting so much disrespect for the man that made him governor. That is ingratitude of the highest order and it is not good for him as a governor”.

“Even comedians are now using Obaseki to crack jokes, he has become a laughing stock in the eyes of the public and that is not good”.

Aremu Afolayan throws shade at his brothers as he shares his life story to mark his birthday




 
Actor Aremu Afolayan seems to be throwing shade at his siblings in his birthday post.
 
The tension between Aremu and his siblings is no secret, especially between him and filmmaker Kunle Afolayan.
 
Recall that last year, Kunle called Aremu "stupid" for claiming they grew up poor. Also, Kunle didn't offer him support when he received heat for calling out the President and Vice President of Nigeria and the Lagos State governor after he suffered an embarrassing incident at the Lagos Airport. What Kunle did, instead, was to correct those who mistook his brother for him.
 
To add to that, Aremu doesn't feature in his brother's movies and he once addressed that in an interview.
 
Well, with these on ground, Aremu took to Instagram to wish himself a happy birthday but he made sure to leave his brothers out of the post.
 
In the post, he thanked those who have played a part in his life. He thanked his mum, thanked his fans, then he thanked the people who love him and "those who God forced on him". He wrote this part in Yoruba but didn't provide names.
 
Aremu went on to defy his elder brother again by insisting they grew up poor. He narrated how they were so poor that he had to help his mum sell pepper soup and once had to steal money from his mum to take to school so he and his siblings could eat.

Doctors remove 526 teeth from a 7-year old boy's mouth (Photos)




 
A 7-year-old boy complaining of jaw pain was found to have 526 teeth inside his mouth. He was admitted in July because of swelling and pain near his molars in his lower right jaw.
 
When doctors scanned and x-rayed his mouth, they found a sac embedded in his lower jaw filled with "abnormal teeth," Dr. Prathiba Ramani, the head of Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology at Saveetha Dental College and Hospital in India said.
 
After discovering the sac, two surgeons removed it from the boy's mouth. Then Ramani's team took four to five hours to empty the sac to confirm its contents and discovered the hundreds of teeth.
 

 
"There were a total of 526 teeth ranging from 0.1 millimeters (.004 inches) to 15 millimeters (0.6 inches). Even the smallest piece had a crown, root and enamel coat indicating it was a tooth," she said.
 
The boy was released three days after the surgery and is expected to make a full recovery, Ramani said. Ramani said the boy was suffering from a very rare condition called compound composite odontoma. She said what caused the condition is unclear, but it could be genetic or it could be due to environmental factors like radiation.
 
The boy actually may have had the extra teeth for some time. His parents told doctors that they had noticed swelling in his jaw when he was as young as 3, but they couldn't do much about it because he would not stay still or allow doctors to examine him.

The Catholic Diocese of Enugu state has been thrown into mourning as one of its resident priest, Rev. Fr. Paul Offu, was killed by unknown gunmen along the Ihe-Agbudu Road in Awgu on Thursday night, August 1st.
 
Fr. Offu was until his death the parish priest of St. James the Greater Parish, Ugbawka.
 
Details of how he was murdered is still sketchy but the matter has since been reported to the police. His friends have since taken to Facebook to mourn him. See their posts and photos of the deceased below.

Wherefore if ye be dead with Christ from the rudiments of the world, why, as though living in the world, are ye subject to ordinances (Colossians 2:20).

Some Christians don’t realize they’re in God’s Kingdom now. They live as though they’re in the world. Their actions and reactions, their thoughts, words and responses are like those of the people of the world. Instead of walking by faith, they walk by sensory perceptions; regulated in life only by that which they can physically perceive. But that’s not the life of a Christian; we live in a spiritual kingdom where faith is our lifestyle.

God expects you to live above this world. Jesus said in John 15:19, “If ye were of the world, the world would love his own: but because ye are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world….” No wonder the Spirit, through the Apostle Paul, cautioned, “Why are you still living as though you’re in the world, when actually you live in Christ, in the Spirit?” Then, in Galatians 5:25, He tells us to walk in the Spirit, because we live in the Spirit.

Now that you’re born again, you live in two worlds simultaneously: the physical world and the spiritual world. You’ve got to be conscious of the spiritual realm into which you’ve been born, and function in it. Live the life of heaven on earth, because you’re a citizen of heaven. Your thinking, your response to circumstances, and outlook on life must be from a heavenly perspective, the Word’s perspective. Your contemplations should be different from those of the natural man.

You live in a spiritual kingdom with spiritual principles. You must have that consciousness. When you understand this, you’ll get excited when you face troubles or crises, because you’re certain they’ll turn out for your good. This is because, in our kingdom, we only know how to win and make progress from glory to glory. We dominate this physical world with the principles of our heavenly Kingdom. Hallelujah!

CONFESSION

Thanks be unto God who has transferred me from the domain of darkness into the Kingdom of His love- Son, in whom I live, and move, and have my being He’s my place of rest, health, wealth, security, and peace with prosperity. It’s a symbiotic relationship that has benefited both.

“I think they’re learning from each other. I don’t think one is teaching the other,” he said.

And that’s exactly what Huggins needs from the two.

The daughter of the imprisoned leader of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria aka Shi'ites, Ibraheem El-Zakzaky, Suhaila, has disowned the statement issued by the group’s spokesman, Ibrahim Musa, that they will suspend its daily street protest following the proscription of their activities by the Federal government.
 
Musa in a statement made available to newsmen yesterday, said the group would temporarily suspend the daily protest following the prosciption of their activities by the Federal government. Musa said the group would also be challenging its proscription in court.
 
Suhalia in a video posted online said the statement released by Musa is not the true position of the group as they would continue their daily protests until their leader El-Zakzaky and his wife, Zeenah, are released.

We have the academic forum and so many other forums. 
 
This person Musa has nothing to do with the people organising this protest that have been going on in Abuja and are still going on and will continue to go on till El-Zakzaky is freed.” she said

Atiku Reacts Over 'Killing & Secret Burial of 1000 Nigerian Soldiers'

The Presidential candidate of the People's Democratic Party, PDP, in the 2019 general election, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar has reacted to the alleged killing and secret burial of 1000 Nigerian soldiers by Boko Haram terrorists, Igbere TV reports. 


In a statement made available to Igbere TV, Atiku said he read the report by the Wall Street Journal that over a thousand Nigerian soldiers have been secretly buried at night by the General Muhammadu Buhari led administration, in order to hide the true state of the war on terror, with a sense of heartbreak and shock.

Atiku further said that men and women of our armed forces are our first, second and last defence against our domestic and foreign enemies and should be treated with love, respect, dignity and appreciation for the invaluable service they render to Nigeria.

Between January and June this year, the Nigerian economy recorded a total investment commitment of $15.15bn in various sectors of the economy, the Nigerian Investment Promotion Commission has said.

Figures obtained from the NIPC showed that the $15.15bn proposed investments were made for 43 projects in 12 states and the Federal Capital Territory.

Comparatively, the proposed investments for the first half of this year showed a 67 per cent decline when compared to the corresponding period of 2018.

Investments commitments are made by would-be investors in specific sectors of the economy, which the NIPC follows up to ensure its full maturity and benefits to the economy.

According to NIPC records, mining and quarrying recorded investment announcements of $12.3bn, reflecting 81 per cent of the total investment proposals made.

Manufacturing recorded $2.2bn worth of investment proposals announced.

Within the period under review, finance and insurance recorded $200m investment proposals while information and communication recorded $200m.

It reads in part, “In the period, $15.15bn of announcements were tracked through the NIPC. The report showed that a total of 43 projects across 12 states and Federal Capital Territory were announced from investors in 20 countries.

“Comparatively, the announcements made in the first half of 2019 were 67 per cent less in value than the announcements in the same period of 2018.

“This was probably due to many investors waiting for the conclusion of national elections and handover in the first half of 2019.


“The major destination was the Niger-Delta region with 77 per cent, followed by Ondo State at seven per cent, and Lagos State at four per cent of the value announced.”

The records showed further that Morocco recorded investments commitments of $2.1bn while Nigerian local investors made investment commitments of $1.3bn.

It added that investors from Malaysia made investment commitments of $0.9bn, while other unnamed nations cumulatively made investment commitments of $3.5bn.

Herbalist who turned his daughter to sex slave, impregnated her, and made her abort is sentenced to 21 years in jail






The case against a father, who raped his teenage daughter multiple times in Edo state and made her have abortions, has finally come to an end months after two activists and the abused daughter died in an accident while going to court (read here).
 
Jacob Alonge, 52, a herbalist who operates in Edo state, was on Thursday, August 1, sentenced to 21 years in jail for the abuse he subjected his 17-year-old daughter - Gift Alonge - to for years.
 
Jacob Alonge constantly had sex with his daughter at their home in Ososo village, Akoko-Edo, Edo state. He was eventually arrested and charged when he got her pregnant a second time but couldn't succeed in aborting the baby.
 
While the case was in court, Gift died in an accident along with four others who were going to court with her. Those who died alongside Gift are her uncle, Rhoda and Promise, who were workers of an NGO named Brave Heart Initiative, helping the abused girl seek justice, and the cab driver (read here).
 

 
Jacob was accused of repeatedly raping his daughter, impregnating her, procuring abortion for her and shaving the hairs in her private part. He also told her not to have sex with any other man as he turned her to his sex slave. 
 
Jacob pleaded guilty to the charges against him and was to be sentenced on the day his daughter died. But he changed his plea only moments after his daughter and four others were killed in a car crash as they were on their way to court for the sentencing (read here). Mr Alonge pleaded not guilty to the charges.
 
However, the court on Thursday concluded his trial and sentenced him to five years on the first count of possession of fetish wrap of Gift’s pubic hair. He was sentenced to two years for raping and impregnating her and 14 years for repeated sexual assault.
 
The counts will run consecutively.

Wall Street Journal in a new expose alleged that over a thousand Nigerian soldiers have been secretly buried at night by the President Muhammadu Buhari led administration, in order to hide the true state of the war on terror.
 
According to the report, 'after dark, the bodies of soldiers are covertly transported from a mortuary that at times gets so crowded the corpses are delivered by truck, according to Nigerian soldiers, diplomats and a senior government official. The bodies are laid by flashlight into trenches dug by infantrymen or local villagers paid a few dollars per shift'.

The secret graveyard at Maimalari isn’t the only one in Nigeria’s troubled northeast, the senior government official said.
The burials convey a picture at odds with a war Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari, a former general, has repeatedly claimed his army has won.
The reality is that Africa’s largest land force a U.S. counterterrorism ally is struggling against an insurgency that first flared a decade ago and is now rejuvenated by Islamic State and the return of fighters from Libya, Syria and Iraq.
The insurgents now control hundreds of square miles of territory across four countries around the Lake Chad basin, a crossroads of Africa where the U.S., U.K. and French militaries have bases or provide special-forces training. On Sunday, gunmen attacked a funeral on the outskirts of Maiduguri, killing at least 65 people, according to government officials.
“This group is one of the most effective, if not the most effective Islamic State contingent at the moment,” said Site Intelligence, a terrorism-monitoring group.
Nigeria’s government last summer stopped reporting the deaths of soldiers in its fight with Boko Haram insurgents and a splinter group that calls itself Islamic State West Africa Province, or ISWAP. Mr. Buhari was re-elected in February after a security-focused campaign in which he repeated that the Islamist insurgencies in Nigeria had been “technically defeated.”
But the sprawling secret graveyard in Maiduguri and an official cemetery at the base, the operational command for the northeastern front in Borno State, now hold the bodies of at least 1,000 soldiers killed since the terror groups began an offensive last summer, according to soldiers and military officials—some of whom estimated a far higher death toll.
The Nigerian military and the presidency didn’t respond to requests for comment on the war, casualties and the secret cemeteries.
In November, Mercy Tamuno was told her husband, Adah, had been killed in an insurgent attack on an outpost in Cross Kauwa, a town about 100 miles north of Maiduguri. When she demanded to see where he was buried, she was taken to the official cemetery at Maimalari, where graves are marked with plywood headstones. There she was led to a spot marked with a plastic bottle with her husband’s name written on it.
“It was the only one marked in this way. I’m not sure it was his grave but that’s what the army told me,” Mrs. Tamuno said.
Two soldiers from Lance Cpl. Tamuno’s unit said he had been buried days earlier in the secret graveyard. The plastic bottle was prepared to appease his wife, they said.
“We know he was buried in the unmarked grave. There was no funeral,” one said.
As the secret cemetery at the Maimalari barracks grows, the military has expanded the site into neighboring fields. “The farmland has been fenced off so they can bury the forces,” said Sarah James, a 50-year-old farmer whose husband is a retired soldier.

Jail officer sentenced to 25 years in prison for sexually abusing female inmates






Eugenio Perez, a former lieutenant at the federal jail in New York has bagged a 25 year jail sentence for sexually abusing multiple female inmates. 
 
The arrest and prosecution of 49-year-old Perez nicknamed 'horse' because of his distinctive and uncircumcized penis came after the female inmates gave corroborating statements. A warrant obtained by federal agents forced the former Brooklyn prison officer to drop his pants for a confirmation of the women's allegation. 
 

Quote:“He wasn’t circumcised. It was big, and it was like a hook…It was humongous and it curved,” one of his victims testified during his two-week trial.
Another described Perez’s penis as having a “really strong smell” that made her want to throw up.
“I am no one to judge someone else, but I would not like any other woman to go through what I went through,” said the woman, identified as “Jane Doe 3,” and speaking through a translator. “It is a horrible experience that I will never be able to forget.”

Seplat eyes completion of 160,000 bopd Amukpe-Escravos pipeline

Seplat Petroleum Development Company Limited is hopeful of bringing on stream its Amukpe-to-Escravos pipeline before the end of this year.

The company said the 160,000 barrels of oil per day (bopd) pipeline is at the commissioning phase, with hydro testing which began  early July. Completion and export of oil to the permitted capacity of 40,000 bopd is expected in the fourth quarter (Q4) of the year, it added.

According to a document made available to The Nation, the company’s policy of creating multiple export routes for its assets has resulted in it actively pursuing alternative crude oil evacuation options for production at oil mining leases (OMLs) 4, 38 and 41 and potential strategies to further grow and diversify production to reduce any over-reliance on one particular third party operated export system.

To add to the Trans Forcados Pipeline system and the backup export via the Warri refinery, the Amukpe to Escravos 160,000 bopd capacity pipeline is set to provide a third export option for liquids production at OMLs 4, 38 and 41. The pipeline owners, National Petroleum Investment Management Services (NAPIMS), a 100 per cent subsidiary of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Pan Ocean Corporation Limited (Pan Ocean) and the pipeline contractor FENOG are responsible for completion of the pipeline, which has seen delays to date.
The completion of the project is in sight. The hydro testing of the 20 inch pipeline, which involves pigging to remove any debris which has accumulated in the construction, followed by flowing water under pressure from the injection point at Amukpe to the Escravos terminal began  in early July, and the current flow rates have confirmed the integrity of the pipeline.

Final works within the Escravos terminal are underway, which includes the tie-in of the LACT measurement unit into the Chevron control system and with commissioning expected to be completed during the third quarter (Q3) of this year with export of oil to the permitted capacity of 40,000 bopd in Q4 of 2019, the company said.
According to the management, it is Seplat’s ultimate intention to utilise all three independent export options to ensure there is adequate redundancy in evacuation routes, reducing downtime which has adversely affected the business over a number of years, significantly de-risking the distribution of production to market.

Also, the management noted that in first half of this year (H1 2019, Seplat lifted and monetised an equivalent of 266,000 barrels of oil from OML 55, which resulted in a receipt of $17million. As a result of this, the carrying value of the investment in the balance sheet was consequently reduced to $150million.

“Alongside its oil business, the company has also prioritised the commercialisation and development of the substantial gas reserves and resources identified at its blocks and is today a leading supplier of processed natural gas to the domestic market in Nigeria.

“With overall operated gas processing capacity standing at 525 million standard cubic feet per day  (MMscfd), the company is actively engaged with counterparties to increase contracted gas sales with the intention of taking gross production towards the 400 MMscfd level on a consistent basis. Of the 525 MMscfd total processing capacity, 465 MMscfd is located at Oben with the remaining 60 MMscfd located at Sapele. The 375 MMscfd expansion at Oben (Phases I and II) was completed by Seplat as a 100 per cent investment project. The gas processing capacity expansion is also designed to allow the company to accept third party gas and receive a processing tariff,” the management added.
On its balance sheet and cash flow generation, the company said that cash at bank as at 30 June 2019 was $433 million; gross debt $350 million and net cash $83 million with $225 million un-drawn headroom on the four-year revolving credit facility.
Net cash flow from operations in H1 2019 stood at US$255 million as against capital expenditure (capex) of US$28 million while full year 2019 capex guidance was revised downwards to US$150 million.
