I have slept with over 2500 ladies – Actor Oboy Siki

Popular Ghanaian actor Oboy Siki revealed in a new interview that he has slept with over 2500 ladies.

The Ghanaian actor disclosed that he is very much interested in young girls and it will be a curse on him if he ever sits anywhere to say he doesn’t. Oboy Siki asserted that womanizing runs in his blood as he had a chance to see what his "womanizer" dad did to women which he loved.

In the interview with Zionfelix, the actor confessed to having a list that contains names and number of ladies he has slept with. He however said that he decided to 'hang his boot' and also quit womanizing after it got to 2,500.

Oboy boasted of sleeping with ladies in every district and village in Ghana and also advocated for a reduction in the age of consent from 18 to 16, because 16-year-old girls are already mature to him.

Nigerians call me Liar Mohammed on social media, please don't believe them-Lai Mohammed appeals to senators

Lai Mohammed today appealed to members of the Nigerian Senate to ignore a group of Nigerians that refer to him as Liar Mohammed on social media. The former Minister of Information made this appeal when he appeared before the senate for his screening as a Ministerial nominee.

According to Lai, many people have falsely accused him of being a liar. While introducing himself to the Senators, Lai said

Quote:“There is only one thing I want to draw your attention to on my CV. It is about my name. My name as it appears on my CV is correct which is Lai Mohammed. Please, don’t believe what they call me on social media. They call me all sorts of names there.
“I used to ignore it until my seven-year-old grandson asked me, ‘Why do they call you Liar Mohammed?’ I told him, ‘Don’t mind them. They are the bad guys''.

Shi’ites can be deadlier than Boko Haram - Northern Elders’ Forum leader, Ango Abdullahi warns FG

Professor Ango Abdullahi, the leader of the Northern Elders’ Forum (NEF) warned the Nigerian Government against proscribing the Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN) in his reaction to the court order obtained for the group's proscription.

The former Vice-Chancellor of the Ahmadu Bello University Zaria, in his interview with Vanguard alleged that the Federal Government has not treated members of the Islamic sect fairly as Nigerians. Prof. Ango added that members of the sect have rights and their rights should be recognised and given to them.

Quote:“We have laws in this country. Nigerian citizens are to be treated within the ambit of the laws of this country. Innocent people are losing their lives and currently, what is happening with the Shi’ites is that they don’t seem to be treated as Nigerians. They have rights and their rights should be recognised and given to them.
“We have been watching this thing for a long time. Their matter has been in court for years and their leader has been granted bail for three, four, five years. Why are court rulings not being respected?
“The IMN is a religious group. Why are they treated differently within the laws of Nigeria? These are the kind of things that produced a resistance group we have today as Boko Haram. When it started, they were not treated like human beings. Rather, they started killing them left, right and centre. Of course they organised themselves and started fighting back and they have been fighting back till today.
“So, if they are not careful and they keep pushing these boys, they will have problem. These boys even have an ideology unlike Boko Haram which had none until much later when they linked up with other international groups. If they push these ones, I think they would be surprised.
“So, basically, the way they are treating them is wrong. They have rights. If they have misbehaved, they should be treated according to the laws of the country. There were court rulings, so many court rulings in their own case that are being ignored by government" he said.

Prof. Ango also called out the "rubber stamp" national lawmakers for supporting President Buhari and not checking the excesses of the executive which according to him is why they were elected.

Quote:“IMN is a religious organisation that exists in every part of the world. The whole thing now is international. You know Iran is a Shi’ites country and Iran is not friendly with many countries around the world particularly Saudi Arabia, United States and so on. It is this international politics that is playing out here. But you cannot deny people their right to religion and worship. People should worship the way they want. What is this bitterness all about? To me, it is sheer bitterness.
“The leader of the Shi’ites was my student in Ahmadu Bello University where he studied Economics. The Shi’ites sect in Islam has been in existence for over 1,000 years and there are Shi’ites groups around the world and countries that are virtually Shi’ites countries. Iran is one of them. Iraq is one of them. Syria is one of them. So, what is the problem?
“To me, the authorities are clearly biased in favour of other Islamic sects.
“The House of Representatives is supposed to be the custodian of the laws of this country. Should they deny people their rights? What is playing out is politics and I can understand that because the relationship between this government and the new National Assembly is different from that of the other assembly. This is a rubber-stamp National Assembly. It is up to them to manage the country as they wish but they should also be prepared for the consequences.”

The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Mohammed Adamu, has said that the police will treat members of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN) as terrorists.

Adamu said this on Tuesday at the monthly conference with senior police officers in Abuja, Igbere TV reports.

A Federal High Court in Abuja had last Friday proscribed the group and directed the Federal Government to publish it in two national dailies.

Adamu said Shiites “will be treated like terrorists and enemies of state” and prosecuted under the Terrorism Act, including anyone associating with them in any way that could advance their activities in the country.

He added that “all forms of procession or protest by IMN is now illegal and thus banned”.

Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Ibadan zonal office on Tuesday, July 30, 2019 botched an attempt by a suspected internet fraudster to flush his phone through a water closet in order to deny access to potentially incriminating data about him.

.
The 20-year-old suspect, Fisayo Falade, was among the 15 young men arrested in Ibadan on Tuesday for internet-related crimes when the Commission’s operatives conducted a raid on two locations in the ancient city.
.
.
Ten of the suspects were arrested at Akatanpa Powerline, while the other five were nabbed at Kushenla area of the Oyo State capital.
.
.
Ranging between the ages of 20 and 28 years, the suspects were allegedly hiding behind fake names and identities to perpetrate fraud, dispossessing their unsuspecting victims of their hard-earned money.
.
.
Their alleged involvement in internet-related frauds were reported to the Commission by members of their neighbourhood who noticed their expensive ways of life even though they are supposedly undergraduates, and without any known source of income.
.
.
Items recovered from them include two exotic cars, laptops, mobile phones and several documents containing false pretences.

I am politically smarter than Bukola Saraki- Oshiomole

Adams Oshiomole, the APC National Chairman, says Bukola Saraki's loss in the last general election, has proven that he, Oshiomole, is politically smarter, than Saraki.

Oshiomhole said this while fielding questions from state house correspondents after a meeting with President Buhari yesterday July 29th. The former Edo state governor said under his leadership as APC chairman, he successfully uprooted the former Senate President, Bukola Saraki and his cronies, politically, in Kwara.

Noting that Saraki is equally a smart political player, Oshiomole said

Quote:”Remember I was saying that Saraki must be removed, people would say how would I do it? I said okay if he resists removal then we would uproot. We went to Kwara, we did OTOGE(Enough is Enough), we uprooted Saraki. You know who Saraki is? If you are talking of the smartest political player, seasoned smart guy, he is. But for every smartness he has, I have a superior smartness. At the end of the day who won?
“As a senate president, we uprooted him as senator, we uprooted his nominee for governor and senators, we put our own. Today, he doesn’t have one senator in Kwara, he doesn’t have one House of Representatives in Kwara. Everything in Kwara is APC and you can’t commend me for that?
“If you don’t, then I will be like lizard, I will praise myself if you State House correspondents don’t praise me''.
Recall that Oshiomole vowed to ensure the removal of Saraki as Senate President after the controversial election that saw him emerge as the leader of the senate was conducted in June 2015. Saraki who was not the APC's favored candidate for the position of Senate President, later defected from the party to the PDP in August 2018.

Oro Worshippers Invade Mosque In Ogun, Attack Imam, Congregation
User Avatar Forum: Other Stories
Posted by: Edoman - 07-30-2019, 12:38 PM - No Replies

Quote:Some Oro adherents, on Saturday, invaded a mosque in Idi-Iroko in the Ipokia Local Government Area of Ogun State and pelted the Imam and the congregation with stones.

PUNCH Metro gathered that the Muslims incurred the wrath of the traditionalists by coming out during the Oro festival to observe their prayers.

The Wakeelul Muslimeen of Yorubaland, Edo and Delta states, Sheikh Iskeel Lawal, said the incident happened during the observance of the afternoon (Suhr) prayer at the mosque.

While explaining the reason for the attack, Lawal said residents of the community had been warned by the Oro adherents not to go out during their festival on Saturday.

He said Muslims in the area first complied with the directive, but later came out to observe the afternoon prayer, which led to the attack on them by the Oro traditionalists inside the mosque.

Lawal stated, “The incident occurred around 1.18pm on Saturday when our Muslim brothers were observing the Suhr prayer at the Umar bin Khatab Mosque at Odan-Aje, behind the General Hospital, Idi-Iroko.

“The Oro adherents invaded the mosque and pelted the Imam and the congregation with stones, and chased them away. They later destroyed the property in the mosque.”

While warning against religious crisis in the state, the Islamic leader said, “We condemn the action of the Oro adherents and urge the government to intervene in the issue before it escalates.

“It is not in the 1999 Nigerian Constitution that no one, whether he is a Muslim or not, must not go out on a particular day or time because of the Oro festival.

“Everybody is free to practice what he wants; no one should impose his ideology on another person. The government must intervene before it becomes too late.”

When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Abimbola Oyeyemi, confirmed the incident.

He said the command had arrested some of the perpetrators.

When asked for the number of the suspects arrested, Oyeyemi promised to call our correspondent back, but had yet to do so as of the time of filing this report.

The Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) and national troops have dealt a deadly blow on the Islamic State’s West Africa Province (ISWAP), killing 10 of its terrorists in Baga, Borno, an official said.

A statement by Col. Timothy Antigha, the Chief of Military Public Information of MNJTF in N’Djamena, Chad Republic, on Monday said that what was meant to be a dawn surprise attack became a nightmare for the terrorists.

Mr Antigha explained that at about 5:30 a.m., ISWAP terrorists numbering about 30 attacked troops defensive locality.

According to him, vigilant troops spotted their approach and promptly thwarted what could have been an audacious assault.

“In the process, 10 terrorists, including four suicide bombers were neutralised while others escaped with gunshot wounds as blood-stained tracks were observed.

“In addition, assorted arms and ammunition were impounded from other terrorists who fled in disarray,” he said.

Mr Atigha, however, disclosed that a soldier was unfortunately killed, while five others who sustained various degree of injuries had been evaluated for medical attention.

According to him, the MNJTF acting cohesively with national forces will continue to pursue courses of action necessary for the achievement of its mandate in the Lake Chad Basin. (NAN)

: Refineries Post Losses In 13 Months
User Avatar Forum: Oil/Gas
Posted by: Edoman - 07-30-2019, 10:34 AM - No Replies

Nigeria’s four refineries under the management of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation have not made any profit since May 2018.

Instead, the refineries posted losses consecutively between May last year and May this year.

The country’s refineries comprise Warri Refining and Petrochemical Company, two plants at Port Harcourt Refining Company and Kaduna Refining and Petrochemical Company.

Latest data obtained from the NNPC on Monday showed that the WRPC, the KRPC and the PHRC ran deficits for 13 straight months, as they recorded no operating surplus.

A further analysis of the performance of the refineries showed that they recorded the highest consolidated loss of N20.1bn in the month of May 2018, as this dropped to N13.63bn in May this year.

It was also observed that the losses of the WRPC and the PHRC dropped from N7.16bn and N8.69bn in May 2018 to N4.6bn and N4.7bn in May 2019, respectively.

The losses incurred by the KRPC, on the other hand, moved up marginally during the period under review, as it climbed from N4.22bn in May 2018 to close at N4.31bn in May 2019, according to the latest figures from the NNPC.

The NNPC further stated that in May 2019, the three refineries processed 32,967 metric tonnes of crude to produce 21,347MT for the month as against zero quantity processed in April 2019.

It noted that only the WRPC produced the finished petroleum products of 21,347MT in May 2019.

The combined yield efficiency for the month under review was 91.29 per cent compared to zero per cent recorded in April 2019, owing largely to rehabilitation work needed to be carried out in the refineries.

“The KRPC has not processed any crude over the past couple of months,” the NNPC said.

For the month of May 2019, the WRPC and the KRPC produced 4,771MT and 3,977 of intermediate products, respectively, while the three refineries produced 8,748MT of intermediate at 1.75 per cent combined capacity utilisation.

“The lower operational performance recorded is attributable to the ongoing revamping of the refineries which is expected to further enhance capacity utilisation once completed,” the NNPC stated.

It further stated that the corporation had been adopting a merchant plant refineries business model since January 2017.

It explained that the model took cognizance of the products worth and crude costs, adding that the combined value of output by the three refineries at import parity price for the month of May 2019 amounted to N5.24bn.

The corporation added that the associated crude plus freight costs and operational expenses were N5.3bn and N13.57bn, respectively, adding that this resulted in an operating deficit of N13.63bn by the refineries.

How To Address Election Rigging In Nigeria – Atiku
User Avatar Forum: General Discussion
Posted by: Edoman - 07-30-2019, 10:32 AM - No Replies

The presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the February 23, 2019 poll, Atiku Abubakar, has said Nigeria must address electoral lapses that cause rigging of election in the country, “especially those lapses that led to the alleged rigging of the 2019 general elections.” Atiku, a former Vice President in a statement on Monday by his Media Office, said one way of addressing the lapses was to implement the salient recommendations of the National Electoral Reform Committee (NERC) headed by former Chief Justice of the Federation, Justice Mohammed Lawal Uwais.

He said the second was the creation of Electoral Crimes Commission. The former Vice President said one of such recommendations, which would enhance the independence of the supposedly Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), was the recommendation that the power to appoint the chairman and board of the INEC be taken away from the President and given to the Judiciary.

He said Nigeria today faces a lot of challenges, chief of which are security and economic challenges, adding that to effectively tackle these, a government must have an honest and indisputable mandate. “Obviously, the 2019 elections were several steps down from the 2015 elections in terms of credibility, and as a democrat, I am challenging that election in the right arena, the courts. “However, leadership does not just entail getting justice for the past. A real leader knows that in terms of justice, prevention is better than cure.

“I have been pondering on the question, how can Nigeria have credible elections? Our electoral system needs not just to be brought up to date, by the acceptance of the amendments to the Electoral Act passed by the eight National Assembly, we also need to be up to tomorrow, by taking steps today to ensure that the lapses that made it possible for the 2019 elections to be manipulated or rigged are addressed. “Of all three arms of government, the Judiciary is the least affected by elections, meaning that it has the highest objectivity in matters relating to the INEC. “It is therefore in the best position of the three arms to appoint a chairman and board members for the electoral body that are impartial, competent and patriotic.

“This recommendation may seem like a small change, but my experience in life has taught me never to underestimate the big difference small changes can make. “Where you have an administration whose mandate is considered tainted, such a government will lack sufficient moral authority to tackle the myriad of problems this great nation currently faces.

“I conclude by saying that I do not believe in blaming. Leadership must be solution-oriented, not blame-focused. This is why I proffer this patriotic advice. Nigeria must be great again and all hands must be on deck to achieve that,” Atiku said.

A former chairman of the Nigerian Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) Akoko-Edo branch, Alhaji Jimoh Olumoye, has been kidnapped on his way to farm.

Alhaji Olumoye was abducted along Igarra-Okpe Road on Sunday afternoon while driving in his car to pick his children from the farm.

A member of the family who pleaded anonymity told Daily Trust that his children raised alarm when they saw their father’s car with the doors opened and his phones abandoned.

Quote:“His children had gone to the farm early in the morning and he promised to go and picked them in the afternoon before he would attend his family meeting." said the family source.
“The children waited endlessly for their father and when they did not see him, decided to be trekking home. On their way home, they met his car on the road with the four doors opened and his mobile phone abandoned. After searching for their father fruitlessly, they decided to now come home to inform the family. We have been praying for his safety, we are worried because he is a civil servant who also farms to augment whatever he is earning as a civil servant. We are appealing that his abductors release him unhurt. He has an aged mother and everybody is scared of breaking the news to her, we are really worried”.

The source said the family has lodged a formal complaint at the Igarra police station.
It was gathered that several vigilance groups in Igarra, Ojah, Ogugu and environs in Akoko-Edo local government area and their counterparts in Owan East have been mobilized to comb the forests around the area.

A member of the vigilance group said, “It was only the State Security Service that responded to our call immediately we heard of the incident and called them. We have mobilised our members and we trying to track them down in the forests so they would move out to other states close to us.

Bullets fired on El-Zakzaky in 2015 still in his body- Falana

Human rights lawyer, Femi Falana, has said that the pellets of bullets fired on the incarcerated leader of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria better known as Shi'ites, Ibrahim El-Zakzaky and his wife Zeenat, are still in their bodies three years after the faceoff with men of the Nigerian police.

El-Zakzaky and his wife sustained gunshot wounds during the clash members of his religious organization had with men of the Nigerian Army in December 2015. El-Zakzaky and Zeenat have been in detention since then, a decision that has forced Shi'ites to embark on violent protests.

At the hearing of their bail application in Kaduna state yesterday July 29th, Falana told journalists that El-Zakzaky and his wife were in dire need of medical attention as they had not been given adequate medical care since their detention in 2015. He said the pellets of bullets have been in the bodies of the detainees since the December 2015 incident in Zaria, Kaduna.

Quote:“In fact, he was not in court because his health had gone very bad. Even during last appearance, he could not climb the staircase to the courtroom. That is why we applied that he be excused from appearance in court, and it was granted. The pellets in their bodies had resulted to lead poison and they need to be urgently removed by highly professional medical personnel,” Falana said

The Humanrights lawyer expressed confidence that the court would grant his clients bail so they can travel for urgent medical care.

However counsel to the Kaduna state government, Dari Bayero, disagreed with the condition for the bail application. According to Bayero, there are many medical facilities in Nigeria that can offer premium medical care to El-Zakzaky and his wife. The lawyer said his team had examined the eight medical reports by Nigerian and foreign doctors and argued that there are medical facilities in the country to handle the medical needs of the Shi'ites leader and his wife.

17 Nigerian nationals and one Ugandan were arrested on Sunday night, in connection with the attack on police personnel by a group of African men, while on duty at the Flora Damansara apartment in Petaling Jaya, Kuala Lumpur, last Thursday.

Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Datuk Seri Abdul Hamid Bador said the men were detained to facilitate investigation into the incident.

In the incident, Four policemen from the Commercial Crime Investigation Department, Petaling Jaya district police headquarters (IPD) were attacked while trying to arrest a Nigerian man suspected of being involved in fraudulent activities.

According to local media, the four police personnel who received information about a suspect in a cheating case conducted the raid at the location at 10.50pm.
“They observed the unit for a few minutes before they saw some movement inside the house. They knocked on the door and called for the occupants for a few minutes but there was no answer before they charged in,”

Checks found three African women and two African men in the house.

Quote:“The policemen showed their ID and introduced themselves as cops before asking the Africans for their identification documents. However, they refused to oblige and acted aggressively towards the police. When the police tried to calm the situation, a group of African men showed up at the house and screamed at the police to leave,”

The group then became more aggressive and started throwing bottles, sticks and shoes at the policemen.
Quote:“During the tense moment, three of the policemen were pulled out while another one was pushed inside the house. The five suspects in the house took the advantage to escape during the scuffle. When one of the policemen tried to apprehend one of the suspects, he was hit with a desk drawer, stepped on and punched in the face.”
Another police officer then called for backup before eight policemen arrived at 12.01am, causing all the Africans to flee.

The injured policeman was taken to University of Malaya Medical Centre for treatment. Some policemen were also missing their wallets, mobile phones and motorcycle keys during the incident.

Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Abdul Hamid Bador confirmed that so far 18 people have been detained to assist investigations into the incident which was described as a violent and irresponsible act.
“The attack is unacceptable and we will not tolerate such violence. Our investigation is not focused on just one nationality,“ he told a press conference after launching the Autisme.

The incident also caught the attention of Home Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, who in condemning the incident said the government would not compromise with anyone who violates the law or obstructs the police in performing their duties.
“I have instructed for a full investigation on those involved and for stern action to be taken as provided by the law. I would like to emphasise that foreigners who come to this country must behave accordingly and abide by the rules of this country,“ he said in a statement on Monday.

Meanwhile, Selangor Criminal Investigation Department chief Fadzil Amat said police would apply for a remand order on the eight Nigerian men at the Petaling Jaya Court today.
“We will also request for an extension of the remand order for the 10 Nigerian men who were arrested on the night of the incident,“ he said.

Court remands 10 masquerades in prison for attacking police station in Benue State

A Makurdi Magistrates’ Court has ordered 10 men who allegedly attacked a police station in Ado Local Government Area of Benue State to be remanded in prison pending legal advice.

The magistrate, Ms Rose Iyorshe, did not take the plea of the suspects, but remanded them in the Makurdi Medium Prisons. The police preferred against the suspects four counts of criminal conspiracy, trespass, attempt to commit culpable homicide, mischief and an act of terrorism.

Iyorshe, who did not take their pleas for want of jurisdiction, ordered the police to duplicate the case file and send it back to the Benue Director of Public Prosecutions for legal advice.  She adjourned the case until August 26 for further mention. Earlier, the Prosecution Counsel, Insp. Veronica Shaagee had told the court that the case was transferred from the Divisional Police Headquarters, Ado Local Government, to State Criminal Investigation Department, Makurdi, through letter No. 3100/BNS/ADO/VOL.T/ dated July 24, 2019.

Quote:Shaagee said that on July 20, some group of youths numbering over 200, led 20 masquerades “Aketakpa” from Igumale town to the Divisional Police Station, Ado, armed with weapons, and attacked the station.
The group, she alleged, armed themselves with cutlasses, sticks, stones, and other dangerous weapons, attacked policemen at the station and inflicted grievous injuries on Sgt Gabriel Adole, PC Joseph Jato and PC Patrick Lawal.
She alleged that the hoodlums also damaged one Toyota Hilux van with registration No. DW 348 EKY valued at N3m. She prayed the court for more time to enable the police to complete investigations in the matter.
She said the offence contravened the provisions of sections 97, 349, 231 and 329 of Penal Code Laws of Benue State 2004 and Sections 100 of abduction, kidnapping, hostage-taking, secret cult and similar activities (Prohibition) Law of Benue State 2017.

The investors, who spoke on the sideline of the recent decision by the Telco to appoint Dr Ernest Ndukwe as the new chairman of the board, in addition to six new directors, also stressed the need to eschew issues capable of constituting a dent on MTN’s corporate governance image.

Furthermore, they added that the management must invest on businesses that will enhance overall growth, and ultimately increase return on investment.
Specifically, the President, New Dimension Shareholders Association, Patrick Ajudua, said: “For us shareholders, the appointment is a welcome development because he is tested and well-experienced in the industry. However, we strongly believe that since the company is now listed on capital market, he will ensure transparency, compliance with corporate governance, and value addition to the shareholders.”

The President, Proactive Shareholders Association, Taiwo Oderinde, urged the new board to shun any corporate governance lapses capable of dragging the image of the firm through the mud.“The new chairman is a man with a wealth of experience and connections in the telecommunications sector. As one time head of NCC, I believe with the support of other members of the board, he will bring this to bear in his new responsibility. I congratulate him and he should not let the shareholders and other stakeholders down.”

Meanwhile MTN Nigeria, in its unaudited result for the half year ended June 30, 2019, posted a revenue N566.946 billion representing 12.14 per cent rise when compared to the N505.667billion reported in the preceding half-year, while other income climbed to N48.062billion from N45.432 billion.

Its Profit Before Tax (PBT) stood at N141.797 billion; Profit After Tax (PAT) was N98.931, and earnings per share stood at 486 kobo as at June 30, 2019.

The directors of telecommunications giant are proposing an interim dividend of N2.95 per share while payment is due for August 16.The Chief Executive Officer, Ferdi Moolman, said: “In the first half of 2019, we sustained a solid performance, delivering double-digit growth in service revenue, underpinned by growth in voice and data revenue. We added 3.3 million customers to our network, increasing subscriber base to 61.5 million. Pleasingly, we saw data subscribers increase in the period by 2.1 million to 20.7 million.

“We made significant network investments to improve network quality and expand our 4G coverage. Our recent work to revamp our data prices and accelerate our 4G network has put us in a strong competitive position to offer more value to our customers, supporting data and voice revenue growth which will ultimately strengthen our business.“We are pleased with obtaining a super-agent licence from the Central Bank of Nigeria, which will enable us to build agent network and accelerate the growth of our fintech business.”

Stakeholders kick against VAT on equities transactions

…Describe move as disincentive to investment

Capital market stakeholders have condemned the federal government directive to return Valued Added Tax (VAT), on all stock market transactions, saying the action is disincentive to investment.

Already, dealing member firms of the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE), have been directed to charge VAT on all commissions applicable to market transactions effective July 25.A notice to dealing member (stockbroking) firms by Olufemi Shobanjo, Head, Broker-Dealer Regulation at the NSE, recalled its circular dated October 27, 2014, referenced BDR/CIR/GOI/10/14, on VAT exemption on commissions on stock transactions order. This was granted by then Coordinating Minister for the Economy and Minister of Finance, in 2014, as published in the Government’s Official Gazette No. 95, Vol. 101 issued on July 30, 2014.

Shobanjo said the order became effective on July 25, 2014, and valid for a five-year period, and will expire on 24 July 2019, following which dealing members, in the absence of a further extension, are to charge VAT effective July 25, on all commissions applicable to capital market transactions.

But stakeholders, who spoke in an interview with The Guardian, argued that the market had suffered unprecedented lull with low patronage in the past five years even with the removal of VAT. According to them, the return of VAT would further dampen investors’ appetite on stocks, trigger migration of investment to money market instruments, and deter foreign participation in stock market.

They maintained that transaction cost in the Nigerian capital market is one of the highest in the world, noting that this has made it difficult to attract global investors to the equalities market, thus reducing its capacity to contribute meaningfully to capital formation in Nigeria.
Recall that the former Finance Minister and Coordinator of the Economy, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, in approving the elimination of stamp duties and VAT on market transactions, said these were a panacea to reviving the Nigerian bourse, which then struggled to bounce back since its crash during the global recession in 2009.
Okonjo-Iweala had noted that a vibrant capital market is, essential to the government’s Economic Transformation Agenda, especially in terms of raising the much-needed long-term financing for critical infrastructure and the housing sector.

She had said: “Research (by the IMF and the World Bank) has shown that solid economic growth in any country is closely linked to the joint development of the banking sector and the capital markets. While the banking sector has already been cleaned-up, the capital market needs some intervention.

“Taxes on stock exchange transactions fees are as high as 12 percent (five per cent in VAT and up to seven per cent in stamp duties) – much higher than in other jurisdictions, and these constitute a major disincentive to invest in the Nigerian capital market. I will like to announce that the Federal Government has consented to: Waive the 0.075 per cent stamp duties payable on stock exchange transaction fees; and,“Exempt from VAT, commissions: (a) earned on traded values of shares, (b) payable to the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), and © payable to the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE), and the Central Securities Clearing System (CSCS); by including these commissions in the list of VAT-exempt goods and services.”

Against this backdrop, stakeholders urged the Federal Government to, as a matter of urgency, abolish the withholding tax, VAT, and contract stamp from the market to enable it contribute meaningfully to capital formation.

Specifically, the President, Ibadan Zone Shareholders Association, Eric Akinduro, said the return of VAT on stock transactions at a time investors’ confidence in the market has been eroded, portrayed government as being insensitive to the plight of investors and growth of small and medium scale enterprises in Nigeria. Akinduro said: “Government must reconsider its stance on VAT to encourage local investors, who are already bowing to sell pressure due to the poor state of the economy and low purchasing power.
“Also, the market is saturated with various taxes and commissions on transactions; therefore, including VAT will further send a wrong signal to investors and discourage them from investing in the market.

“Recent statistics showed that the returns on investment and capital appreciation have reduced drastically and in view of this and on behalf of the entire members of the Ibadan Zone Shareholders Association, we hereby request that the Federal Government should extend the VAT exemption pending the time the economy recovers.”
The Managing Director, Highcap Securities Limited, David Adonri, noted that the elimination of VAT in 2014, was a deliberate action to reduce the high cost of transaction in the market, which was one of the major disincentives to investment.

He recalled that when government took the action, the capital market was already showing signs of fragility arising from economy-wide distress as witnessed presently, saying the return of VAT and contract stamp will put equities at a competitive disadvantage.

He added: “For the equities market to flourish and contribute meaningfully to capital formation, withholding tax, VAT, and contract stamp should be abolished from the capital market, Nigeria should stop subsidising consumption, and also stop penalising investment through counter-productive taxation.”
The Chief Research Officer, Investdata Consulting, Ambrose Omodion, said the restoration of VAT on all transactions will discourage investors’ participation in the market. He described the move as multiple taxes, considering the withholding tax on dividend being collected by government, and other charges paid to regulators, and instead called for policies that will spur market activities and resuscitate the economy.

Oando posts N315.4b revenue

Oando Plc has announced its financial results for the six months ended, June 30, 2019, with a profit-after-tax (PAT) of N7.2 billion. Oando, whose operation was stalled following sanctions by the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), weathered the storm to record a six per cent increase in revenue to N315.4 billion from N297.3 billion in comparative period of 2018.

Since its acquisition of ConocoPhillips Nigeria in 2014, Oando has embarked on a proactive drive to significantly reduce its debt and liabilities. The Group reduced its total borrowings for the period by five per cent to N200.7 billion from N210.9 billion in FYE 2018, totalling a 58 per cent reduction in debt since 2014 from N473.3 billion.

Similarly, its upstream business reduced borrowings by 13 per cent to $221.13 million compared to $255.6million in FYE 2018, totalling approximately 72 per cent debt reduction from $801.6 million in 2014. The company further reduced its Reserve Based Lending (RBL) facility by a 99%.

Commenting on the results, Oando’s Group Chief Executive, Adewale Tinubu, said: “Half year 2019 was a positive period for us as we achieved strong top and bottom line earnings despite our overall performance being tempered by a one-off N14 billion charge. Our crude oil and natural gas production grew by 15% and 8% respectively compared to the similar period last year while we also achieved a significant reduction in our RBL facility to approximately $0.4 million from $450 million at inception- a 99% reduction.

“The bad news is not only was it a very expensive transaction then because the price of crude oil was $112 when we closed and by December crude oil prices had dropped to $60 per barrel, one year after the acquisition, crude oil prices had dropped even further to $30 a barrel. You can imagine us signing the largest cheque in our corporate history and immediately after the market doing a complete reverse. This was coupled with being in an era where Niger Delta militancy was on a high, production was severely hampered; we had a large swamp rig operation and pipelines network which were affected”. Today, Oando is in its third year of consecutive profits.”

RHAPSODY OF REALITIES

TUESDAY, 30TH JULY.

BELIEVE AND EXPECT MIRACLES

If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it (John 14:14).

It doesn’t make sense to believe in God and not believe in miracles. A Christian who doesn’t believe in miracles doesn’t know who God is. A miracle is the supernatural intervention of God in the natural affairs of men, an intervention that transcends human reasoning, ability, science, and logic.

Therefore, to believe in God and not expect miracles is a contradiction. So, believe and expect miracles. The Christian life is a day-to-day experience of, and journey in the supernatural. When you speak, your words aren’t ordinary, for they contain power, the miracle element to affect and influence your world and cause a change. In Mark 11:23, Jesus said, “You shall have what you say.” In our opening verse, He said, “If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it.”

The underlined word is the Greek, “Poiēō,” and it means, “make”; Jesus is saying, “I’ll make it in my Name; even if that thing doesn’t exist, I’ll make it happen.” See how He loves us! It delights the Lord to bless you and do good things for you. It’s His joy to answer your prayers and grant your heart’s desires. He said in Luke 12:32, “Fear not, little flock; for it is your Father’s good pleasure to give you the kingdom.” He can, and will do anything for you, because you believe.

If there’s a tumour in your body, for instance, declare, “Tumour, in the Name of Jesus, you can’t stay in this body; I cut you out!” If there’s been a problem with your heart, command it to function normally, in the Name of Jesus. If it’s about your finances, command a change, and it’ll be so. Declare what you want. Voice your miracle. Create and sustain your victorious life with your faith-filled words.

CONFESSION

I reign and rule in this life, continually walking in the supernatural! Everything I require for life and godliness is available to me by free course! My life is a daily expression of the supernatural, because I function by the Spirit. Blessed be God!

They were arraigned before Justice Mahmood Abdulgafar of a Kwara State High Court, sitting in Ilorin, on separate one-count charge.
The charge against Samuel reads: “That you, Samuel Emmanuel Magaaji (aka Lillian Nora) sometime in May 2019 at Ilorin, within the judicial division of the High Court, while acting as Lillian Nora a white Caucasian lady, with gmail account lolliannora98@gmail.com did attempt to cheat by fraudulently inducing one Mike Dewey in delivering to you the sum of $500 (Five Hundred Dollars) under the guise of being in a romantic relationship with him and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 95 of the Penal Code and punishable under section 322 of the Penal Code.”

PDP urges Senate to submit ministerial nominees list to EFCC

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has asked the leadership of the Senate to further give credibility to the ministerial screening by sending the names of the nominees to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for investigation.

The party in a statement signed by its spokesperson, Kola Ologbondiyan today July 29th, said the screening exercise would confirm that many of the ministerial nominees who were former governors and ministers, wrecked their states and ministries.

According to the party, the nomination of ''persons with corruption badges'' to serve in the federal cabinet has overtly established the fact that President Buhari not only ''condones but also explicitly promotes corruption, which has escalated into a state art since he assumed office in 2015.''

Quote:This is particularly as President Buhari had asserted that he would only nominate persons he knows “personally”.
It therefore speaks volumes that the persons Mr. President "personally" knows and has nominated as ministers include such individuals that have been publicly indicted and known to be answering questions as accomplices in on-going corruption cases in various courts''the statement read

The PDP alleged that a former Minister who is currently being investigated for a N2.5 billion fraud case, is amongst the ministerial nominees. The party called on the Senate to note that some of the nominees have failed to defend their corruption allegations.

Quote:This includes a particular former minister from the North Central, who had admitted to the Independent Corrupt Practices and other related offences Commission (ICPC) of complicity in the N2.5 billion National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) fraud case, still pending in court.
This is in addition to certain nominees who, as state governors, swindled their states, fleeced workers and committed several financial crimes for which they should rather be standing trial, instead of being rewarded with official protection as ministers'' the party in the statement said

The PDP added that the inclusion of names of persons with cases of financial fraud, proves the insincerity of the Buhari-led government to fight corruption.

Quote:Our party notes that the gathering of corrupt persons as cabinet ministers is a clear pointer to a scheme by the cabal in the Presidency to further entrench corruption in our nation.
Urging the Senate to take a cursory look into the allegations of bribe-for-ministerial-slot, making the rounds in the public space, the PDP said the Senate must rise to the occasion and ensure that Nigerians are not totally let down.
The PDP also invites the Senate to note that President Buhari has not demonstrated any commitment to the fight against corruption and for that reason, Nigerians now look up to the National Assembly to protect the nation from the excesses of the Buhari Presidency.
The repositioned PDP has demonstrated this determination in our nominations for leadership positions in our party at all levels.
The Senate is therefore urged to stand with the people in resisting the manipulations of the Buhari Presidency to ensure that only persons with clean records are cleared as ministers.

Angry Ijaw youths shut down 10 telecom masts in Bayelsa State

Today, a Task Force of the Ijaw Youths Council (IYC), Central Zone raided and shut down facilities belonging to telecommunication companies in Bayelsa State following unresolved disputes on awards of quick-win contracts.

The task force, which was set up by the IYC zonal Chairman, Kennedy Olorogun, picketed facilities belonging to MTN, GLO, Airtel, 9Mobile and other telecommunication companies across Yenagoa metropolis.

Hundreds of the youths stormed 10 telecom masts and disconnected them, leaving subscribers stranded and the affected companies losing millions of Naira. The youths, who chanted solidarity songs, said they would no longer allow the companies to continue with the practice of awarding their jobs to only non-indigenes especially contracts to supply diesel to their facilities.

The Olorogun-led IYC has been at loggerheads with telecom companies operating in the state following discoveries by the council that the firms engaged only non-indigenes in their jobs and contracts. IYC wrote many letters to the management of the telecom companies on the need to correct the imbalance insisting that the council would no longer tolerate the companies’ practice of outsourcing diesel supply to only non-indigenes in the state.

Following lack of responses to all the letters, Olorogun in separate letters issued 14-day ultimatum to the companies to act or risk disruption of their operations in the state. Olorogun said the picketing occurred because the ultimatum expired about three days ago but the companies failed to act to avert the threat.

Quote:He said: “The companies were playing with us. They failed to act. Instead, they wanted to bribe me but I am not the kind of leader that collects bribe. We want them to do the right thing. They should address the issues. We are hosting their facilities. They can’t be giving all their jobs to outsiders”.
He warned that the Monday action was a tip of the iceberg adding that massive disconnections would hit the companies if they failed to address their grievances. Shortly after the picketing, communication network failures were recorded in most parts of the capital city as subscribers living in the affected areas could no longer make or receive calls.

Ongoing ministerial screening is a beautiful nonsense- Dino Melaye

Dino Melaye, the senator representing Kogi West in the senate, has described the ongoing ministerial screening as a ''beautiful nonsense''.

Melaye made this assertion in an interview with Channels TV.

Quote:“I will tell you categorically that Nigerians are not happy especially with the way the proceedings of the screening have been conducted and I can tell you this without fear or favour,” he said.
“But I want to say that we are talking to ourselves in the senate and as the days go by, it will get better… I do not have powers to nominate ministers but the reason why we have this problem is because the president did not yield to the request of some of us from the national assembly to submit the names of his ministers with their portfolios, so we are actually shooting from the dark.
“It would be better if the president was submitting the names of the ministers with their portfolios so that we know their area of competence and we can ask them questions within the jurisdiction where they are going to serve.
“But if a man is going to be minister of labour and productivity and you are asking him questions that have to do with health or law reforms, then automatically, that exercise is a beautiful nonsense'' he said

Melaye opined that the presidency should have included the portfolios of the ministerial nominees so that the screening exercise can be more detailed.

Quote:“I want to advise and I still instill that for the betterment of service to the country, and for us to have quality screening, the president should submit the names of the ministers with portfolios then we can now properly screen them.
“My advice to the senate is that we should screen these ministers in committees so this will not delay other activities of plenary. Going forward, that should be the approach. But for this approach of everyone coming and three to four people asking questions and the sentiment of bow and go, and some senators trying to play to the gallery or trying to show support is very not fruitful.” he said

The senate has been widely criticised for asking many of the nominees particualrly former National Assembly members and female nominees to “take a bow and go” rather than grill them.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Ilorin Zonal Office has arrested Segun Soewu, Director General, Kwara State Bureau of Small and Medium Enterprise Development, over an alleged N2billion fraud.

Also arrested are Ogudu Samuel of Brightway Micro Finance; A.K. Imam of Magajingari of Micro Finance; Adeleke M.S. of Sincere Micro Finance Bank; Yusuf Muideen of Balogun Fulani Micro Finance Bank; Issa Abdulrasheed of KCMB Micro Finance Bank, and Oyebode Asimiyu of Apels Micro Finance bank.

Others who are also being investigated include, Lawal Ayo of Omu-Aran Micro Finance Bank; Tope Eniola of Iludun Micro Finance Bank; Lawal Folashade of Stockcarp Micro Finance Bank; Yusuf Tajudeen of First Heritage Micro Finance Bank, and Olawoye E.O. of Offa Micro Finance bank.

The anti-graft agency had earlier received intelligence reports alleging fraudulent misappropriation and mismanagement of about N2billion given by the Kwara State Government to assist market men and women across the 16 Local Government Areas of the state.

Investigations further revealed that at the point of granting the loans, Soewu and the 16 Micro Finance Bank Chiefs failed to follow due process. It was also revealed that the two billion naira loan facility which was designed for lending to the general public to support their businesses and augment their working capital was distributed to highly placed politicians, traditional rulers and prominent people within the 16 LGAs.

Soewu and one of the managing directors of the bank who were grilled by the operatives of the Commission for several hours said: “A prominent and First Class traditional ruler in the state received over N78million cash from the loans, which was designed to assist petty traders but never returned a dime.

“The traditional ruler through his company, Yafy International Ventures Limited secured the loans without following the due process.”

They disclosed further that “selected and influential market men and women across the 16 Local Government Areas of the state received the sum of N5million each as loans, but did not pay back the money.”

The Commission also gathered that about 50 percent of the rather controversial loans were shared by highly placed individuals and selected businessmen and women at the expense of other beneficiaries, which defeated the aims and objectives of Small and Medium Enterprise Development.

Findings by the operatives of the Commission also indicated that the highly placed individuals who benefited from the loan between 2012 to 2018 failed to pay back the huge loans they secured. The arrested suspects are still in the custody of the Commission, and are cooperating with the EFCC.

52 inmates die during terrifying prison riot in Brazil

No fewer than 52 inmates were killed in a prison riot in northern Brazil today as rival gang factions fought each other.

Sixteen of the dead were decapitated in the second major eruption of violence to rock the country’s severely overpopulated and deadly prison system in as many months. Fighting broke out in the Altamira Regional Recovery Center at around 7:00 am (1000 GMT), an official from the Para state government’s penitentiary department told AFP.

Two guards were taken hostage during the hours-long clashes, which were brought under control at around midday. They were eventually freed.  Brazilian TV stations showed footage of thick black smoke rising from the prison compound and people sitting on the roof of a building.

Other images showed flames inside a building that almost reached the ceiling and people, apparently prisoners, sitting on the ground outside. “It is likely that many detainees died from asphyxiation (from smoke),” the government official said, adding the death toll could rise.

Around 300 prisoners were being held at the jail, the official said, which reportedly has a capacity for 200.

An outbreak of violence in the same prison in September 2018 left at least seven inmates dead. Guards had apparently foiled an attempted prison escape. In May this year, at least 55 prisoners were killed in several jails in the neighboring state of Amazonas in violence also blamed on an apparent drug trafficking gang dispute.

List Of Illegal Universities Closed Down By NUC- July 2019

Recently I read a thread where an aggrieved NL'der complained about NYSC denying his sister her discharge certificate after serving her fatherland.

https://www.nairaland.com/5323208/nysc-discriminates-against-benin-republic

The foremost university education regulatory agency in Nigeria, the NUC recently released a list of about 60 institutions in the country considered as illegal. The NUC said the list isn't even exhaustive and warned the general public about patronising such institutions.

It warns that "Certificates obtained from these sources will not be recognised for the purpose of NYSC, employment or further studies".

Good move, don't you think? Public awareness is key in the fight against the menace of these mushroom universities. It will save many from the financial and psychological trauma resulting from falling victims of this parasitic institutions.

Cc: Lalasticlala let people know. Ignorance is not an excuse. To be forewarned is to be forearmed.

Two young women were publicly humiliated and punished for mimicking the mode of greeting used by members of the Black Axe confraternity.

The women were initially pictured all smiles by a poolside as they did the greeting peculiar to the Neo Blackism group. The video caught the attention of members of the group and they went after the women and punished them.

In one of the videos shared to Facebook by the official account of Blackism, one of the women can be seen kneeling down, naked from the waist upwards.

In another photo, both girls can be seen looking terrified as they knelt.

"Hold and behold, this is what you get when you impersonating what you don't belong. It's actually not a child's play. It's called blackism. Stay off if you don't belong. We are Neo Blackism," the Black Axe confraternity captioned the photos on Facebook.

BBNaija: Jeff, Omashola, Tacha and Mike are up for eviction this week

Jeff, Omashola, Tacha and Mike are up for eviction this week barely a day after an eviction show that sent Thelma and Nelson packing.

Coming from a week that saw all the housemates being up for possible eviction for breaking the house's rules, Jeff, Omashola, Tacha and Mike got the highest number of nomination this week.  No one was saved nor replaced as there was no veto power holder.

This came after Frodd won the Head of House challenge and also got 250 bet9ja reward coins.

LCC Patrol Van Knocks Down Nursing Mother, Kills Baby (Graphic Photo)
User Avatar Forum: News
Posted by: Edoman - 07-29-2019, 07:27 PM - No Replies

SWITZERLAND, JULY 29 – A Patrol Van belonging to the Lekki Concession Company has reportedly knocked down a nursing mother, killing her baby in the process.

An eyewitness told Today’s Echo that the woman, named Mrs Adaobi Uligwe was on July 9, 2019, at about 5 PM knocked down by a Patrol Van belonging to Lekki Concession Company, while trying to arrest a Danfo bus at Elf bus stop in Lekki. She was at the bus stop waiting to board a bus going to her destination after the close of work when the unfortunate incident happened.

“Immediately she was knocked down, the baby strapped on her back flew out and landed her head on the stone, instantly her skull broken and her brain spilled on the road. The mother sustained deep injury but survived while the baby died instantly,” the eyewitness said.

Today’s Echo gathers that the Lekki Concession Company Patrol Van escaped from the scene, while the Mobile Police Man, who is attached to them was unlucky to escape with them, as he was being held by others who were at the bus stop when the reckless act happened.

The DPO of Maroko Police Station who was invited to arrest the situation, later released the Mobile Police officer who was the only suspect arrested and thereafter charged one Oluwafemi Ogidan, who ensure the Mopol didn’t escape to Court for assault and stealing of the gun belonging to the Mopol. And by implication abandoned the family who lost their only child.

Meanwhile Today’s Echo learnt that the baby was given birth to on July 10, 2018 and she is the only child of the parents who waited for 10 years before they gave birth to her. She died a day to her first year birthday. As we speak the family is in total disarray, with no hope of having a child again.

This tragedy has attracted attention to reckless driving on Lagos roads and the alarming rate of accidents along the Lekki-Epe express way. Both the family of the victims and concerned persons are seeking for justice.

The Lekki Concession should be made to pay huge damages for providing the platform, which masterminded the brutal and reckless killing of this innocent baby. The DPO of Maroko Police Station should also be investigated over his role in this issue, for shielding the Lekki Concession Company.

21 Uniosun Students Arrested By EFCC Regain Freedom

Twenty-one students of the Osun State University, who were arrested by the operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission last Thursday, have been released.

The arrest of the students in their various hostels in the Oke Baale area of Osogbo by a team from the Ibadan zonal office of the anti-graft agency led to a protest by fellow students, who blocked the Osogbo/Ibokun Road and set up bonfires.

They were later dispersed by men of the Osun State Police Command, who removed the items used to block the road.

Security sources told our correspondent on Sunday that the students were released after they were profiled by the EFCC operatives in Ibadan.

One of the sources added that the social media accounts of the students as well as their phones and other gadgets were checked and were found not to be involved in Internet fraud.

It was also learnt that an employee of the institution, whose identity was not made public, who was arrested for filming how the students were being arrested, had also been released.

Speaking with our correspondent on Sunday, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Administration and Development, UniOsun, Prof. Janet Olaitan, confirmed the release of the students.

“So far, so good; all the 21 students arrested have been released,” she stated.

Commenting on the release of their fellow students, two undergraduates of the university, who preferred anonymity, berated the anti-graft body for the way their mates were apprehended.

They claimed that the affected students were arrested without any tangible evidence linking them to Internet fraud as alleged by the EFCC, adding that releasing them without pressing charges was a confirmation of the allegation of incessant harassment of students by security operatives.

They however, called for synergy between the university’s management and security operatives to fish out those students engaging in criminal activities.

My father and mother should forgive me – 19-year-old cultist narrates how cultism destroyed his future

vb

A 19-year-old cultist arrested by a team of policemen from Oworoshoki Police Division led by a Superintendent of Police (SP) Nkereuwem Joshua, has narrated how cultism destroyed his future while begging his parents for forgiveness.

A police source who confirmed the arrest of the alleged Aiye Confraternity member identified as Ayo Afiolorunsho, said he was arrested after a meeting with other cult members in which they planned an attack on a rival cult group.

Quote:“The suspect was picked up at Oworoshoki area of the Third Mainland Bridge, as his group was planning a deadly attack on rival Eiye cult group. The suspect confessed that they went to Oworonsoki, after leaving a meeting at Obalende. He said that they were supposed to have another meeting at Oworoshoki, when police appeared and arrested them all.
"The cultists, on sighting the police team, took to their heels. However, Afiolorunsho was arrested, in possession of a sword, which he said was for self-defence" the police source said.

The vulcanizer and second child in a family of six on his own part disclosed that he was initiated into the Aiye cult group in Ikorodu area of Lagos after successive threats.

Quote:“There is nothing to gain from cultism. I regret being a member of Aiye. Those that forced me to join cultism made so many promises to me, but all were lies.  Since the police arrested me, not one member of the group under any guise has visited me. I am left to my fate.
My parents are ashamed of me. I plead with youths to shun cultism. If I should regain my freedom, I would relocate to my village immediately and practice my trade. I have ruined my future with the group that I joined. I’m finished. My future is gone! I don’t know if I will ever leave the police custody" he said.

Smile We Won’t Call Witnesses Because Atiku’s Witnesses Supported Our Case, INEC’s Law
User Avatar Forum: General Discussion
Posted by: Edoman - 07-29-2019, 06:53 PM - No Replies

The Independent National Electoral Commission said on Monday that it would not call any witness to defend its case in respect of the petition filed by the Peoples Democratic Party and its presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar.

Atiku and his party are by their petition challenging the outcome of February 23, 2019 presidential election which INEC declared was won by President Muhammadu Buhari and his All Progressives Congress.

The petitioners had rested their case with 62 witnesses on July 19 after which the five-man tribunal led by Justice Mohammed Garba adjourned further proceedings till Monday for INEC to open its defence.

But when called upon by the tribunal to open his case on Monday, INEC’s lawyer, Yunus Usman (SAN), said it would not be necessary on the grounds that the evidence extracted from the petitioners’ witnesses during cross-examination was in support of the commission’s case.

He said, “We have painstakingly reviewed the evidence of petitioners’ witnesses.

“We have also painstakingly studied the petitioners’ evidence under cross-examination, which supports our defence and our denial in consonance with our pleadings.

“My lords, we do not see the need to waste your lordship’s precious time by repeating what their witnesses have repeated under cross-examination.

“In that circumstance, we will not call any witness to help them prove their case.

“We, therefore, rely on the evidence of their witness under cross-examination.”

Responding, Buhari’s lawyer, Chief Wole Olanipekun (SAN), requested to be allowed to open his client’s case at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday.

APC’s lawyer, Lateef Fagbemi (SAN), said his decision on whether or not to call witnesses would depend on the case to be presented by Buhari’s legal team.

On his part, the petitioners’ lawyer, Dr. Livy Uzoukwu (SAN), thanked INEC’s legal team for not calling witnesses.

“I profusely thank my brother and friend for deciding not to call any witness,” he said.

Quote:Pastor Muoka's First Daughter Got Married

It was a joy to behold at the Corporate Headquarters of The Lord's Chosen Charismatic Revival Ministries, International Conference Center, the venue of the Glorious wedding, as the beautiful first daughter of the General Overseer of the fastest growing church in Africa, Sis Ruth Ifunanya Muoka, walked down the aisle with her handsome heartthrob, Bro Lucky Oha.

The wedding took all by surprise. This is because, men were expecting something else but this daughter of zion, who took after her daddy's humility, tied the Knot with her handsome husband in a very simple ceremony just like her elder brother, Pst Joshua Muoka did on January, 26th, 2019. The wedding could be aptly described as the simplest marriage but uniquely orchestrated by God because of the message the marriage sent to the public : A PERFECT EXAMPLE OF HUMILITY.

The wedding was void of gifts presentation because there wasn't any Pre- information. Beside, Daddy G. O. announced from the pulpit " We don't need any gifts (cash/ kind) from any body.

The handsome groom and his beautiful bride were so much happy with the joy they shared in God's Presence during the wedding.

To the latest couple in the house, Bro and Sis Lucky Oha, may the love you both share wax stronger as you grow old together. May everything that pertains to God's blessing in marriage be your portion in Jesus name.

To our beloved Daddy and Mummy in the Lord alongside other ministers, who joined them together in holy matrimony in God's Holy altar, may God bless you all. We pray for more grace and anointing.

Congratulations to Bro Lucky and Sis Ruth Oha.

Edo Assembly Crisis: I’ll Not Issue Fresh Proclamation - Obaseki

Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, has said that he would not issue a fresh proclamation letter for the inauguration of the 7th Edo State House of Assembly.

Obaseki stated that the Nigerian Constitution 1999 as amended, mandated state governors to issue proclamation only once for the inauguration of their Houses of Assembly and he has dutifully performed the function.

Obaseki was reacting to publication in one of the National dailies that President Buhari directed him to issue fresh proclamation.

Speaking through his Special Adviser on Media and Communication Strategy, Mr. Crusoe Osagie, Governor Obaseki described the story as false.

Nothing wrong in appointing service chiefs from one region - Ango Abdullahi

Ango Abdullahi, the Chairman of the Northern Elders’ Forum (NEF) has stated that there is nothing wrong in appointing service chiefs from one region of the country.

In his defence of the appointment of the Inspector General of police, Mohammed Adamu who is from Nasarawa state, Ango expressed displeasure over the criticism that trailed it. He added that Service Chiefs don't make security decisions based on the regions they are from but for a broader interest.

Quote:Professor Abdullahi told The Sun: "It's very sad that there is insinuation here that, for instance, the chief of police now is from Nasarawa state, is he going to take decision based on the fact that he is from Nassarawa state or perhaps on a larger scale that the fact that the IG of police is from Nasarawa state and Nasarawa state is a state in northern Nigeria, so he is chief of police from the north and, therefore, there will be no consideration on police matters concerning other parts of Nigeria?
"This is very sad, very dangerous argument that is being put forward. How many offices are we even talking about and you are saying lopsidedness of offices?
"Have you looked at the offices in the civil service and those that occupy them, so what is the fuss all about? Are they parochial or are they biased in the discharge of duties concerning other parts of the country?"

Court to rule on El-Zakzaky's bail application on August 5th

A Kaduna State High Court has set aside August 5th to rule on the bail application filed by the leader of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN), Ibrahim El-Zakzaky, and his wife, Zeenat.

El-Zakzaky and his wife have been in detention since their arrest in 2015 after members of their religious group clashed with men of the Nigerian Army.

Counsel to El-Zakzaky and his wife, Zeenat, Femi Falana, told the court that the embattled couple could not make it to the court hearing today because of their bad health condition.

Members of the Shi'ites group have consistently staged protests demanding the release of El-Zakzaky. The protest by the group went violent in Abuja last week Monday July 22nd, leaving a youth corps member, Precious Owolabi and a police deputy commissioner of police, Umar Bebel, dead.

Fashola now having grey hair for heading 3 ministries – Okorocha

Senator Rochas Okorocha has said that the immediate past Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola, has been so overwhelmed by the three Ministries left under his care that he has started having grey hair at 56.

Okorocha, a former governor of Imo State, said this when he spoke at the screening of Fashola in the senate chamber. According to Okorocha, the former minister had grown grey hair because of the enormous work of overseeing the three ministries.

Quote:“The three ministries are too large for one person. Look at my friend; he now has grey hair,” Okorocha said.

Alongside Fashola, those scheduled for screening today July 29th include Rauf Aregbesola (Osun), Geoffrey Onyema (Enugu), Gbemisola Saraki (Kwara), Maryam Katagum (Bauchi), Muhammadu Mahmoud (Kaduna State), Clement Agba (Edo) and Suleiman Adamu (Jigawa).

The remaining three Ministerial nominees, Sabo Nanunu (Kano), Saleh Mamman (Taraba) and Lai Mohammed (Kwara), will have their screening conducted on Tuesday July 30th.

President Buhari will be looking for problem if Ngige is returned as Minister of Labo

President Buhari will be looking for problem if Ngige is returned as Minister of Labour and Productivity- NLC

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) have warned President Buhari against reappointing Chris Ngige as the Minister of Labour and Productivity.  Ngige is amongst the 43 Ministerial nominees sent by President Buhari to the Senate for confirmation

NLC Secretary, Peter Ozo, made the position of the union known in an interview with Punch. According to Ozo, President Buhari will be inviting trouble if he dares reappoints Ngige as Labour Minister.

Recall that Ngige during his tenure as Minister of Labour in President Buhari's first term in office, clashed with NLC leaders over the delayed inauguration of the National Social Insurance Trust Fund (NSITF) board.

Speaking in the interview, Ozo said the President should look for another Ministry to fix Ngige in so as to avoid any crisis with the labour unions.

Quote:“We think that government will be looking for problem if Ngige is returned to the Ministry of Labour and Productivity as minister because he does not understand how the place works and his own approach will create an unnecessary industrial crisis. If the government is properly advised, it should look for where to put him. Ngige is a square peg in a round hole in the ministry.”

Reacting  to the NLC's position, Ngige who spoke through his personal assistant, Nwachukwu Obidiwe, said the former minister has no personal rift with the NLC leaders.
Quote:“It is the responsibility of the president to appoint and assign portfolios to ministers. Ngige will willingly serve in whichever ministry the president so decides. Besides, he has no personal issue with labour. What happened at the end of the last term was a matter of steadfastness to the rule of law or otherwise.
He chose the rule of law in respect of the appointment of the chairman of the board of the NSITF. Don’t forget that labour later saw reason with his action, forcing the (former) president of the TUC at the valedictory organised by the ministry on May 26, 2019, to apologise on behalf of labour while commending him for his unimpeachable labour administration style.”

President Buhari has condemned the dastardly attack on a funeral procession in Borno, which caused the deaths of over 60 mourners.

Garba Shehu, the President’s spokesman, in a statement in Abuja, said the President had received assurances from the armed forces that the terrorists who committed the killings would pay a “big price” for their action.

Quote:“The Federal Government is firmly and resolutely committed to taking necessary measures to safeguard the nation’s security. This administration is determined to end the menace of terrorism,” Shehu quoted President Buhari as saying.
According to the president, already a major exercise has begun to hunt the attackers with air patrols by the nation’s Air Force and ground operations by the army. He assured the residents of Maiduguri and the citizens settled in IDP camps that they would receive increased protection from further attacks by the assailants.

The insurgents on a reprisal mission attacked Badu village in Nganzai Local Government Area of Borno and killed over 60 persons and wounded 11 others. The Chairman of the local government council, Muhammad Bulama, who spoke on the incident on Sunday, said the insurgent had recently attacked Badu village but they were repelled by the villagers and members of the vigilante group.
Quote:“The villagers resisted the attack, killed 11 insurgents and recovered 10 AK-47 rifles in the encounter. On Saturday at about 11:40 a.m., the insurgents came on a reprisal mission, attacked mourners at a graveyard, killed over 60 persons and injuring 11 others.

Probe Garki Hospital - Ayo Owolabi, Father Of Precious Owolabi Demands

Ayo Owolabi, father of the slain Channels TV reporter, Precious Owolabi, has called for the probe of Garki Hospital over alleged poor handling of the emergency, Igbere TV reports.

Owolabi, 23, was killed during the protest by the Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN) last Monday in Abuja.

The deceased’s father, speaking on Sunday when his family was paid a visit by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo in Kaduna, wondered why the doctor who was supposed to perform surgery on the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member was not within reach after his son had been stabilised, Igbere TV reports.

“He was taken to the first hospital where they said they could not handle his case and was referred to Garki hospital where he was attended to and was stabilized,” Mr Owoabi said.

“But the doctor, who was supposed to do surgery on him, was far away. Possibly if he was available, the boy’s life would have been saved and that would have saved us from this agony we found ourselves in for the past one week.

“I would have loved to find out why the doctor was not around. And what step has the management of that hospital taken on that doctor’s action.

“I saw the boy in a video sitting down, holding his tummy and bleeding. But the doctor to do the surgery was nowhere to be found.”

Osinbajo described Owolabi’s death as a national tragedy that would never be forgotten in history.
