The company provided customers with safety car care classes, taught customers how to change their tyres, check their wipers and engine oil levels as well as signs of bad brakes. The Castrol team was also on ground to educate customers on which Castrol lubricant that best suits their car and other appliances.

Besides saving me a huge sum of money at the mechanic, I have learnt about the various types of lubricants and the importance of frequent car checks. This initiative has helped provide me with the ability to detect and prevent faults in my car with the right measure.

“It was also impactful learning about the different Castrol lubricants and the most suitable for my car. Following the oil change using Castrol lubricant, my car engine has greatly improved. Henceforth, I will ensure that my mechanic uses Castrol Lubricant for my engine,” Olalekan added.

LPG off-takers decry supply marginalisation by NLNG

Some off-takers of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) have accused the Nigerian Liquefied Natural Gas (NLNG) of marginalisation in the distribution of the product in Lagos.

The off-takers said the NLNG, which is the sole local supplier of LPG, also called cooking gas,    deliberately restricted supply of the product to an arm of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation – the Pipeline and Products Marketing Company (PPMC). The off-takers said the NLNG supplied LPG only to PPMC jetty in Lagos, including NIPCO in the last two years.
They said NIPCO received bulk of the supply, which is an average of 8,000metric tonnes per delivery by the NLNG while other terminals such as NAVGAS was were denied supply.
The off-takers stated that NAVGAS, the operator of the terminal from which they get supply, had requested for supply on several occasions but got no explanation from NLNG why its terminal could not get supply.
They said LPG marketers that depend on the terminal for supplies are gradually closing shops as they couldn’t import, adding that NAVGAS terminal has only received product thrice this year while PPMC/NIPCO terminal had received over 12 deliveries.

The off-takers said: “Traditional system of delivery in the past by NLNG was to the two jetties – NAVGAS and PPMC. Other terminals in the country are unable to receive from NLNG due to low draft which cannot take NLNG’s vessel (Navigator Capricorn) if fully laden.
“All terminals including NAVGAS and PPMC/NIPCO import to augment domestic supply in the event NLNG vessel is busy delivering to other terminals based on the initial understanding had with the NLNG. However, owing to the assurance given by the Nigeria LNG to increase the quantity LPG which will be more than enough to meet domestic consumption, the importation option was jettisoned and now the NLNG has sidelined NAVGAS.
“We have also tried to through other off-takers receive product via NAVGAS facility but still no reason was given for not delivering to the terminal.”
The off-takers noted that NLNG has abandoned the original delivery schedule for the two jetties – NAVGAS and PPMC/NIPCO, adding the delivery chart has become so disproportionate since the start of the current contract year, which is expected to end in September.
The off-takers said NIPCO had received a relatively favourable delivery compared to other terminals, noting that NIPCO has 9,800mt capacity while NAVGAS and PPMC’s capacities are 11,000mt and 4,000mt respectively.

NLNG’s performance could be increased significantly in spite of the reasons for not delivering regularly to NAVGAS terminal and with 51 per cent utilisation only.
Nigeria LNG, however, denied the accusation. When contacted, Head, Media Relations of Nigeria LNG Limited, Mrs. Anne-Marie Palmer-Ikuku, said the company has been supporting the domestic LPG market since 2007. She said from the beginning, Nigeria LNG’s involvement in the LPG market had promoted  competition in the domestic LPG market while encouraging all terminals to provide third party access (TPA) to all credible buyers.

She noted that the principle has guided NLNG’s engagement with terminal owners and buyers. “Today, the significant majority of NLNG off-takers take their volumes through the PPMC jetties, which have provided TPA to all interested buyers and are preferred because they are cheaper.
“NLNG, as a reasonable and prudent operator, honours all its contracts and does not discriminate against any buyer. All Annual Contract Quantity (ACQ) commitments have been met for all buyers without exceptions.

“No buyer has been denied volumes that were committed to them during the contract year. Algasco for instance has taken 23,643.39mt out of its ACQ of 26,000MT for this contract year. This is 90 per cent of its volumes with more than two months to the end of the contract year,” she said.
Palmer-Ikuku noted that NLNG will continue to work with the government, buyers and other industry players to ensure a level play field for all buyers, adding that NLNG will continue to help in boosting the growth recorded in the oil and gas sector of the economy.

Dealers seek stable, liquid market

[Image: financial-markets-report.jepg_-750x375.jpg]

Financial market dealers have said a stable and liquid money market is crucial to achieving market stability.

In a communique issued at the end of a seminar organised by the Financial Markets Dealers Association (FMDA) Money Market Workgroup, in Lagos, the dealers said the money market is the bedrock of banking and economic activities.
They also said monetary policy rate ought to be used as an effective anchor for the money market.

“The need for a more stable and predictable money market in Nigeria, developing framework, product, and layers that will allow its intermediary role as well as de-risking and improving perception of the banking industry is crucial in building confidence in the sector,” they said.
They also called for more market participation by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and proper credit instruments and products offering by financial institutions.

The dealers canvassed “a balancing mechanism to even out the demand for and supply of funds, private partnership legal framework for derelict infrastructure -power, rail, health, education, as well as encouraging collective will to leave everywhere we go a bit better than we met it”.
The seminar’s theme was: “Developing a vibrant and liquid money market as an effective catalyst to spur economic growth – Focus on the Interbank Market”.
The welcome address was delivered by CBN Director, Financial Markets Department, Mrs. Angela Sere-Ejembi, and the keynote speaker was the Managing Director/CEO, Citibank Nigeria, Akinsowon Dawodu, who  shared perspectives on the Role of Money Market in Financial Market Development.

Other speakers were Managing Director/CEO, SunTrust Bank, Ayo Babatunde, who spoke on the “Balance Sheet, The Market and Optimal Impact”.  Chairman, Money Market Workgroup Olufemi Adaramola gave an overview of the “Liquid Money Market with Impact on Derivatives Products Pricing and Development”.
In his presentation, Babatunde highlighted the challenges banks are facing, noting that the CBN policy, mandating banks to lend 60 per cent of their deposits by September 30, may push some of them to increase lending to high risk-borrowers with the potential of incurring heavy losses.

The guideline, he said, directed banks to improve lending to the real sector and maintain a minimum loan to deposit ratio (LDR) of 60 per cent (compared to the sector’s LDR of 58.5 per  cent as at May and regulatory maximum of 80 per cent), subject to quarterly review.
To ensure lending to Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs), retail, mortgage, and consumers, Babatunde said the CBN assigned a weight of 150 per cent to them in the computation of LDR.

“Failure to meet the minimum LDR of 60 per cent by the specified date will result in a levy of additional Cash Reserve Requirement (CRR) equal to 50 per cent of the lending shortfall of the target,” he said.
Babatunde said specific guidelines were required to clarify whether the LDR computation would  be based on gross or net loan position.
The event attracted participants from both local and international banks, regulatory organisations, non-bank financial institutions, Small and  Medium Scale Enterprises and other stake-holders.

Access Bank tackles insurgency, lifts education in North

Email
Access Bank Plc has partnered with the United Nations Children Education Fund (UNICEF) and Fifth Chukker,  to promote the educational sector through improved funding. The bank has also partnered with the North to tackle insurgency.

The bank and the other institutions are supporting child development and strategic community support using the Charity Shield Polo tournament. The purpose is to rebuild and strengthen the educational system with the hope of increasing access to formal education and reducing child delinquency.
Through this initiative, Access Bank has raised funds to invest in schools, fixed existing ones by providing facilities and teaching materials, and by building new schools in several rural communities.
Speaking on the development, Access Bank Executive Director, Retail Banking, Victor Etuokwu, said, “In Kaduna, we are facilitating the building of a new school which will have 60 classroom blocks and accommodate over 1,200 children. Once this is completed, we intend to expand our impact to other states and consequently other regions.
“We are happy that we are not working alone, as we have the full support of UNICEF and Fifth Chukker and hope other banks can join us in our crusade”.

He said the Boko Haram insurgency has been a point of concern for both Nigerians and the global community. It has cost more than 4,000 lives, Bank still hopes to revitalize the educational system in the locations of focus, and provide Nigerian children with a chance for a better tomorrow.
According to the Polo & Equestrian General Manager, Fifth Chukker, Barbara Zingg, the 2019 event also featured a special Children’s Day programs which included riding lessons for 200 children, 150 of which will be underprivileged children selected by UNICEF. She also disclosed that cuisines from countries across West Africa, East Africa and Mexico were introduced as part of a cultural exchange program.
Over the years, through various schemes and projects, the bank continues to showcase its commitment to being more than banking. The  Group Head, Corporate Communications, Access Bank Plc, Amaechi Okobi, who spoke on the essence of the polo charity event, said, “So, as often as we can, through the support of organisations like UNICEF, Fifth Chukker and the media, we will continue to let Nigeria and the world know that Nigerian children and their education will not be ignored”.
Also, there are signs of hope for the future, and Access Bank is leading the way. With such an impressive record in giving back to communities, a stronger and sustainable foundation is currently being laid for the future; the Nigerian dream. Therefore, it is important that everyone, as individuals and corporate institutions, begin to raise our voices and drive the action in supporting the growth of the Nigerian child.

By 2018, the number of out-of-school children in Nigeria rose from 10.5 million to 13.2 million. Although primary education is officially free and compulsory in many states, 61 percent of 6 to 11-year-olds regularly attend primary school with only 35.6 percent of children aged 36-59 months receiving early childhood education. Interestingly, the picture is bleaker in Northern Nigeria, with a net attendance rate of 53 per cent.

According to the United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund, only 45 per cent of girls in the North are enrolled in schools, while the North-East and the North-West states had a female primary attendance ratio of 44 percent and 47 per cent. The agency explained that the issue can be traced to poverty, early marriage and cultural beliefs, and further compounded by uncommitted teachers, poor learning environment, leading the country to account for more than one in five out-of-school children globally.
This year, the Federal Government reported that following various interventions by state government and their partners, the number reduced from 13.2 million to 10.2 million. The number remains mind-boggling, but there is hope. While the population continues to increase through rising birth rate, parents are not financially supported, and children are sent out into the streets and left exposed to abuse, slavery and recruitment for anti-social activities.

other direction and paint them a picture of different possibilities. However, the first step to achieving this is strengthening the education system and getting as many children as possible off the streets and into the classrooms.

Notore grosses N16.5b in nine months

Notore Chemical Industries Nigeria Plc recorded a turnover of N16.5 billion in the third quarter of its current business year as the vertically integrated agro-allied and chemicals group struggled with plant downtime and high finance costs.

Key extracts of the interim report and accounts of Notore for the nine-month period ended June 30, 2019 showed a turnover of N16.5 billion against operating profit of N3.34 billion. The report however showed a top-down slowdown in the performance of the company, a situation the company attributed to plant downtime and finance costs.
Notore had recorded a turnover of N20.6 billion in period ended June 30, 2018 while operating cost was higher at N3.75 billion in 2018. With cost of sale rising from N12.42 billion to N13.23 billion and financing cost increasing from N7.69 billion to N10.45 billion, the company ended June 30, 2019 with net loss after tax of N7.103 billion as against N3.94 billion in comparable period of 2018.

The company attributed the top-line performance to plant downtime due to ongoing Turn-Around Maintenance (TAM) programme, which is expected to be completed by first quarter of 2020. The company stated that the plan will operate at its nameplate capacity after the completion of the TAM.

The company stated that it remains optimistic on its growth outlook noting that the Nigerian fertilizer demand is quite robust and is expected to continue to grow because of the federal government’s efforts to increase both the supply and demand for fertilizers, through provision of subsidies, grants and loans and through recent government initiatives such as the Presidential Fertilizer Initiative (PFI).

According to the company, the domestic fertilizer market is yet to reach its full potential as the consumption of fertilizer per hectare of arable land in Nigeria is below 10kg compared to the 200kg recommended by Food & Agriculture Organisation.

Notore added that the demand for urea and compound fertilizers, such as NPK, from the West African markets and Sahel African states is also quite significant noting that it sold all the 156,615 metric tonnes of urea that it produced during the period under review.
“Additionally, on-going market demand for NPK and NPK specialty will boost the business’ revenues when its newly installed and commissioned 2,000 MTD NPK blending plant begins production. Consequently, Notore has begun gradual efforts to further diversify its revenue streams by selling specifically produced Notore seeds to farmers. To enhance profitability, Notore is working on financial initiatives to reduce its finance cost considerably,” Notore stated.

He explained that the first-half work programme was impacted by unforeseen delays from rig contractors as well as the need to undertake higher levels of maintenance and asset integrity work for longer-term benefit of the assets, which affected production during the period.

He said the company has now secured the necessary rig capacity for the second half to implement the revised work programme which will drive it towards a 2019 exit working interest production rate of 62,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day (boepd) and bring annualised production within the unchanged guidance range of 49,000 to 55,000 boepd.
est green field gas and condensate developments onshore the Niger Delta to date. Seplat is well positioned to leverage the experience gained at the Oben gas processing hub to incorporate operational and cost efficiencies. The board of Seplat had in March 2019 took the Final Investment Decision (FID) to proceed with the ANOH project where first gas is targeted for first quarter 2021.

Why Nigeria cannot develop strong airport hubs, by expert

[Image: Port-Harcourt-Airport-Terminal-700x375.jpg]

Despite its huge population, Nigeria cannot develop string airport hubs because it lacks terminals that can accelerate seamless transit for passengers on domestic; regional and international flights, Chief Executive Officer, African Aviation Services Limited, Nick Fadugba has disclosed.
Besides facilities for passengers’ transit; Nigerian carriers are not strong enough to attract global partnership to offer passengers reliable services on global routes beyond point to point, a development that is no longer fashionable among global carriers.

Speaking in an interview in Lagos, Fadugba said the Murtala Muhammed International Airport Lagos and Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport Abuja were yet to qualify as hub for West Africa because they do not command the kind of facilities that would attract global carriers as transit terminals to connect passengers to any where in the globe.

Fadugba said global carriers are attracted to airports with modern facilities where turn around time is swift ; services are reliable ; airlines could refuel and enjoy many economies of scale.

He said the  weak status of many Nigerian carriers with limited aircraft fleet ; unreliable schedules and lack of capacity to share interline and codeshare agreements with global carriers continue to undermine the drive for hub status for Nigerian airports.

Fadugba said airports in Accra; Cairo ; Casablanca; Dakar ; Addis Ababa ; Nairobi and  Johannesburg which have developed modern infrastructure and processes to attract global legacy carriers with intimidating aircraft fleet and network; Nigerian airports needed to be reworked to accommodate attractive hub facilities.
He said :” Nigerian airports still have a long way to go to become significant hubs in Africa ; because they have inadequate facilities that will facilitate seamless passengers’ transit.
” Government needs to tear down and build a modern terminal at Lagos Airport with at least three runways that will facilitate seamless connectivity.
” Government needs to urgently look at land facilities at the Abuja Airport and at least build two runways for easy connectivity.

” Developing an airport hub is not by accident but through careful planning and strategy. To achieve this government should look at airport size, and the readiness of the airspace to accommodate the exponential traffic that it will trigger if modern facilities are put in place.
“. This is what other countries have done by empowering their airlines; modernizing their fleet; securing operational agreements and partnership to position them as catalyst for economic development .”

Kena PHK, Ini Cara Atur Keuangannya
User Avatar Forum: General Discussion

[Image: ilustrasi-karyawan-stres_20180116_085354.jpg]

Saya sempat kaget.

Father allegedly slices daughter’s throat in Yola

A man identified as Mr. Seidu Dan Iya has been arrested by the Adamawa State Police Command for allegedly slitting his daughter's throat.

The suspect believed to be suffering from a psychological problem after an alleged long time drug abuse was arrested after a neighbour reported the incident to the police.  It was further learnt that when neighbours asked the suspect why he slit his daughter’s throat he said that he just felt like doing it.

The State's police spokesperson DSP Suleiman Yahaya, confirmed the arrest of Seidu and further disclosed that an investigation has been launched to establish the health condition of the suspect in police custody.

Though Dr. Elkanah Patrick who treated 8-year-old Zarau Seidu at the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) in Yola said the girl has a 50-50 chance of survival, the hospital's Head of Clinical Services Dr. Yerima Suleiman Yusuf, said the hospital will treat the victim free of charge.

Fuel Scarcity Looms As NUPENG Issues 7-day Strike Notice
User Avatar Forum: General Discussion
Posted by: Edoman - 08-01-2019, 11:12 AM - No Replies

Quote:By Victor Ahiuma-Young

Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers, NUPENG, yesterday, issued a seven-day strike notice to the Federal Government to compel Chevron Nigeria Limited, CNL, to honour the agreement it reached with the union on June 20, failing which members would down tools and begin an indefinite strike.

In a statement signed by the President and General Secretary of NUPENG, Prince Williams Akporeha and Afolabi Olawale, the union said : “NUPENG, with deep frustration and worries, would like to alert the general public and all relevant authorities of the blatant violation of agreement reached between Chevron Nigeria Limited Company and unions in the industry.

“It is public knowledge that unions in the oil and gas industry had a protracted negotiation with Chevron Nigeria Limited over 70 per cent labour manpower reduction which it (Chevron) claimed was required in view of reduction in their operations in the oil and gas Industry.

“After up to one year negotiation, brokered by Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC; National Petroleum Investment Management Services, NAPIMS, and Ministry of Labour, it was agreed that considering the intervention of all the institutions mentioned above and the various justifications made, only 30 per centof the Labour Manpower Contract Workers will be relieved.

‘’Of the 1,856 contract workers in the company, NUPENG has 1,120; PENGASSAN, 213; and non-unionised, 523. It was agreed that the 30% reduction shall be spread in equal percentage among the three groups.

“It was also agreed that union executives (NUPENG and PENGASSAN) will not be affected by the reduction, that Chevron Nigeria Limited will not in any guise change the Labour manpower to service contracts.
‘’It was also agreed that anyone that voluntarily offers to go will be counted as part of the agreed 30%.

Unfortunately, immediately after the agreement was reached, Chevron started executing the exercise in blatant violation of the agreed terms, ostensibly to either put NUPENG in bad light as troublesome or for extinction because only NUPENG members have been exited from work, leaving behind the Non- Unionised workers and PENGASSAN members.

‘’It is further embarrassing to see that NUPENG executives are also part of those already locked out. From our record, over 500 of NUPENG members are being sacked. We further learned that the intention of Chevron is to change the contract to short term service contract and we see this as unfair and a breach of agreement reached with us in bad faith.

“All NUPENG executives should be called back to work, the percentage of reduction agreed should be spread to the three groups as agreed to avoid creating the impression that NUPENG was the target of the exercise.”

‘’The good disposition of the new leadership of NUPENG should not be taken for granted. Chevron should not be allowed to use this exercise to change the Labour Manpower contract to service contract in a disguised manner.

“Consequent on the above demands and having been pushed to the wall, NUPENG, hereby, puts all our members on red alert should Chevron Nigeria Limited and its contractors fail to honour or comply with our demands within the next seven days, we would also not hesitate to take all necessary legal options available to us, including industrial actions, to press home our legitimate demands.”

Quote:Islamic State says killed or wounded more than 40 Nigerian soldiers - Amaq

CAIRO (Reuters) - Islamic State said via its Amaq news agency that it killed or wounded more than 40 soldiers in the northeast Nigerian state of Borno in two separate attacks on Tuesday.

The group said militants attacked a military post in Baga and killed at least 15 soldiers before carrying out a second attack on an army barracks in the town of Benisheik, where they killed around 25 more.

Locals and military sources told Reuters there were clashes between insurgents and soldiers in the state on Monday and Tuesday. Reuters was unable to immediately verify the number of people killed or injured in those clashes.

An army spokesman did not immediately respond to phone calls requesting comment.

More than 30,000 people have been killed in northeast Nigeria since 2009 in an Islamist insurgency.

At the weekend at least 65 people were killed in Borno, the birthplace of the insurgency, when militants targeted civilians travelling from a funeral.

A 23-year-old woman Eniola Shittu has been arrested by the police in Ogun for allegedly conspiring with her lover David Peremobowe, 31, to rape her friend.

Shittu, a resident of Ikopa Tuntun, Abiola Way, Abeokuta, was arrested on July 27 following a complaint filed by the victim at Obantoko Police Division, spokesman Abimbola Oyeyemi said on Wednesday evening.

According to Oyeyemi, the incident occurred around 1:45 pm on July 24, when Shittu messaged the victim on WhatsApp to help her buy food and skushis.

Shittu was said to have asked the victim to bring them to her boyfriend’s house at Somorin, Obantoko in Abeokuta where she was offered a bottle of beer by the said boyfriend Peremobowe.

“But immediately she finished taking the beer, she became very weak as a result of which David Peremobowe unlawfully had carnal knowledge of her and while he was doing it, her friend Eniola Shittu used her phone to do the video recording of how she was being raped.

“On the strength of her complaint, the DPO Obantoko Division, SP Olasunkanmi Popoola detailed his detectives to the boy’s house where David Peremobowe and his girlfriend Eniola Shittu were promptly arrested. The Gionee handset with which the video coverage was made was also recovered.

RHAPSODY OF REALITIES

THURSDAY, 1ST AUGUST.

CHRIST OUR MEDIATOR AND RECONCILER

For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus (1 Timothy 2:5).

In Romans 6:14, the Bible says, “For sin shall not have dominion over you...” The problem of sin has been dealt with. In the Old Testament, the prophet Isaiah cried out, “But your iniquities have separated between you and your God, and your sins have hid his face from you, that he will not hear” (Isaiah 59:2).

But it’s not so anymore, because of Christ’s redemptive work; He’s the mediator between God and men. The Bible says God was in Christ, reconciling the world - the world of sinners - unto Himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them. God isn’t holding sin against you, because of Jesus; our sins were laid on Him. No one today should bear the punishment for his or her sins, because Jesus already paid the full penalty for sin. He was judged for our sake (Isaiah 53:5).

Following His victorious sacrifice in our behalf, He initiated and established peace between God and man; He reconciled humanity back to God. Man had become alienated from the life of God through Adam’s disobedience, but Jesus reconciled us with the Father in the body of His flesh through death.

Colossians 1:21 declares, “And you, that were sometimes alienated and enemies in your mind by wicked works, yet now hath he reconciled in the body of his flesh through death, to present you holy and unblameable and unreproveable in his sight.” The latter part of this scripture clearly reveals the reason for the reconciliation:” …to present you holy, blameless and above reproach in his sight.” Now, you’re qualified to live in the presence of God, without inferiority, guilt or condemnation; you’re free from all accusations, being justified by His grace. Blessed be God!

This is the Gospel! The reason you’re holy, blameless, and justified before the Father isn’t because of what you did, or didn’t do; it’s the result of what Jesus did. His death, burial, and resurrection reconciled you to the Father, and brought you into oneness and fellowship with Him. Hallelujah!

CONFESSION

I’m the unveiling of the Father’s righteousness, called to show forth His glory and excellence. I walk and live in the light, as He is the light; the light of His Word and His righteousness. Therefore, I reign in this life, with dominion over sickness, disease, poverty, darkness, and the elements of this world. Glory to God!

#TALKINGSESSION

1ST AUGUST.

KINDLY SAY THESE WORDS OUT LOUD

Dear Father, Your Spirit is at work in me mightily, causing me to be more effective in my works of righteousness! I am a tree of righteousness, producing other trees of righteousness. I am empowered to do things beyond the ordinary, and I am accomplishing great feats by the Spirit, and through the power of Your Word,

Spring Hall Health Keto That they felt their body's purity due to their non secular lifting. All three detox dieters, who have been no longer in search of spiritual enlightenment, all agreed that they felt vulnerable from the initial hunger, but commenced to feel "clearer," earlier than the end of the second one day. None of them agreed that they had been experiencing starvation. they all felt their fasting brought about as a minimum a few shape of physical purity. In medical technology, there are times when docs advocate fasting. not along with pre surgical approaches, maximum fasting necessities are for some form of "readying" or purity. previous to starting diets that deal with ailments, together with the ketogenic food regimen, there's a length of fasting required beforehand.  https://cialisneabd.com/spring-hall-health-keto/

Frank Donga mocks the Nigerian senate over screening of Ministerial nominees

Frank Donga served a sarcastic tweet over the Nigerian senate's popular line of 'take a bow' during the recently concluded Ministerial screening.

Recall that the Senate President suffered a backlash over the 'take a bow' culture they adopted during the screening. The arrangement began in 2003 and it was introduced as a courtesy and privilege for nominees who had been elected to the Senate or House of Representatives in the past.

However in recent times it has been extended to nominees it was not initially meant for. Recent beneficiaries include Godswill Akpabio ( Akwa Ibom), George Akume ( Benue), Emeka Nwajuaba ( Imo), Adeleke Mamora ( Lagos), Rotimi Amaechi  ( Rivers), Tayo Alasoadura ( Ondo).

Others are  Mustapha Shehuri ( Borno), Timipre  Sylva  ( Bayelsa), Abubakar Aliyu ( Yobe), Sharon Ikeazor  ( Anambra), Ramatu Aliyu ( Kogi), Sadiya Umar Farouk ( Zamfara ) were also excluded from being grilled.  The privilege was also extended to Otunba Adeniyi Adebayo ( Ekiti), Chris Ngige ( Anambra ) and Muhammadu Musa Bello ( Adamawa).

Reacting to this, Frank Donga told unmentioned future employers to give him a job without grilling him. He tweeted;

Quote:Dear future employer, I think you can see your mates, plz, tell me to take a bow at my next interview and give me job. Nobody get 2 head, I no pompous o!, Na beg I beg

Shi’ites bow to pressure, suspend ‘free Zakzaky’ protests

The Islamic Movement of Nigeria aka Shi'ites have announced the suspension of their daily protests demanding the release of their leader, Ibrahim El-Zakzaky.

A statement signed and released by the head of the media department of the group, Ibrahim Musa, says the ''temporary suspension'' is to allow the group challenge the proscription of its organization in court.

Quote:The Islamic Movement in Nigeria do hereby announce to the general public and the international community that it has temporarily suspended its Free Zakzaky street protests to allow for some new openings into the resolution of the problems, especially the court case instituted by our lawyers on the proscription order made by the federal government this week.
We sincerely hope an amicable way could be found to solve the crises surrounding the illegal detention of our leader for almost four years now.
The Islamic Movement wishes to thank both national and international civil rights activists and organizations who have been busy demanding the protection of our fundamental human rights as enshrined in the constitution.
“We also thank the press, both national and international, and the social media activists for the full coverage of our activities throughout the struggle for justice,” he said.

Recall that the Inspector General of Police, Adamu Mohammed, on Tuesday July 30th, announced that activities of the sect has been banned forthwith. At a press conference held in Abuja, the police boss said any person that associates with the group shall be treated as a terrorist.

The Shi'ites have been staging street protests in various parts of the country, demanding the release of their leader, Ibrahim El-Zakzaky, who has been in detention since December 2015.

Man confesses to raping pastor's 9-year-old daughter to death in Rivers State

A suspect, Eedee Tombari, who is on trial for alleged rape and killing of the 9-year-old girl, Eedebari Letticia Gonis Kogbara, in Khana Local Government Area in Rivers State in November 2018, on Tuesday, admitted to the crime in his confessional statement to the Police.

The 23-year-old suspect was first arrested by detectives attached to the Bori Area Command and was later transferred to the Rivers State Criminal Investigative and Intelligence Department (SCIID).

It was gathered that the mother of the victim, Mrs . Eedeebari Gonis- Kogbara, had taken the deceased to a church programme in Khana Local Government Area of the state.

The suspect was alleged to have gone in, raped her and later dumped the body of the victim at the back of the church fence, after he had discovered that the little girl had died.

Father of the victim, Pastor Peter Gonis - Kogbara, who is a General Overseer of a church in Bodo, said it was the traces of blood that made people to discover where the suspect dumped his dead daughter. He called on Nigerians to come to his aid and ensure that justice prevails in the matter .

However, the hearing in murder trial was stalled on Tuesday, July 30 at the Rivers State High Court sitting in Port Harcourt.

The defence counsel was expected to cross-examine the father of the victim, Gonis Kogbara, but due to the volume of cases, the trial judge adjourned the matter to 4 December, 2019 for continuation of cross examination.

Meanwhile, lawyer to the victim and Chairperson of International Federation of Female Lawyers, Ngozi Ighosebve, expressed hope that the trial will be speedy, since the suspect has wilfully made useful confession which could aid the court.

Reno Omokri reacts to old audio tapes of late US president Ronald Reagan calling African delegates at the UN 'monkeys'

Reno Omokri mocked Ronald Reagan in reaction to the newly unearthed audio tape in which the latter was heard calling  African delegates at the UN 'monkeys'.

We reported earlier that the late former US President was angry that African delegates at the UN took sides against the US in a vote to recognise China's sovereignty over that of Taiwan.

Reno Omokri in an Instagram post which served as his opinion over the report, noted that 48 years after Ronald Reagan made that statement, 'monkeys' from Nigeria are the most successful ethnicity in America. He wrote;

Quote:“To see those, those monkeys from those African countries. Damn them! They are still uncomfortable wearing shoes"-Ronald Reagan, 1971.

48 years after Ronald Reagan made that statement, 'monkeys' from Nigeria are the most successful ethnicity in America.

It makes you wonder who the real monkey is.

The proscription of Shiites is a deliberate attempt to divert attention from them being killed" - Amnesty International

Rights group, Amnesty International, has condemned the Federal Government’s decision to proscribe the Shi’ite group, Islamic Movement of Nigeria.

In a statement released today, AI described the proscription as an attempt to cover up the massacre of over 350 Shi’ites in Kaduna State in 2015 as well as the murder of several others in subsequent protests that occurred.

The statement read in part, “Amnesty International is concerned that Nigerian authorities are increasingly depriving members of Islamic Movement in Nigeria of freedom of religion and freedom of association.

“The proscription of IMN is a deliberate attempt to divert attention from crucial issues including; justice for the massacre of over 350 in Zaria in December 2015 as well many other IMN supporters killed by security agencies over the years.”

The rights group said many Shi’ites have been missing and the Nigerian authorities have not even bothered to address their plight.

It said the Buhari-led government blatantly refused to release the leader of the IMN, Sheik Ibraheem El-Zakzaky, who was granted bail in 2016.

AI noted, “Many members of IMN have been missing since 2015; their families and relatives are yet to know their fate and their search for justice has been largely ignored by Nigerian authorities.

“Despite Federal High Court order of December 2016, Nigerian authorities have continued to keep Sheik Ibraheem El-Zakzaky in unlawful detention and his bail application perpetually delayed, despite repeated concerns over deterioration of his health.

“The fact that authorities have not indicated any attempt to investigate and ensure justice in all incidences involving IMN clearly shows a government resolve to deprive them of their fundamental human rights.

“We insist that Nigerian authorities ensure justice in all cases involving all Nigerians, including IMN.”

15 migrants die of hunger after getting stranded in a boat - United Nations

15 Ethiopian migrants have died after the boat trying to smuggle them into Yemen broke down and left them stranded at sea without food or water for a week, the U.N. migration agency said.

Survivors said some died from hunger and thirst and others drowned themselves, the International Organisation for Migration (IOM) said. “A number reached Yemen but died before they could get medical help,’’ it added.

Quote:“The migrants were travelling from Djibouti to Yemen when the smugglers’ boat broke down. Those on board reported that lives were lost due to hunger, thirst and intentional drowning, while some people died in Yemen, as they could not reach health facilities in time’’.
The boat, which was originally carrying 90 Ethiopians, arrived in Yemen’s Southern port city of Aden on Monday but the whereabouts of most of the survivors were unknown. In May, the agency called for the release of more than 3,000 migrants, mostly Ethiopians, who, it said, were held in inhumane conditions in two detention centres in Aden and neighbouring Lahj, which are under the control of the Saudi-backed Yemeni government.

Buhari blames state governments for Almajiri system of education

President Buhari blamed the State Governments for Almajiri system of education while playing host to members of the Progressives in Academics at the State House in Abuja on Tuesday.

According to Buhari, the Islamic education associated with begging on economic and religious grounds exists because the state governments are not doing their jobs.

Quote:“The problem of education, I hope when you are going to produce your paper you should be referring to the constitution – What the Centre (Federal Government) is supposed to do; what the state is supposed to do and what the local governments are supposed to do.
“And that again, you reflect on the basis for revenue allocations from the centre which is being published by the Nigerian press every quarter – the amount of money earned and how it is divided by the three tiers of government.
“The people are deliberately criticising the government – when I say the government of course I mean the Federal Government, for the Almajiris. But that is the responsibility of the state governments, which means the state governments are not doing their job,” he said.

The President also insisted that education remains a top priority for his administration as he revealed that his government injected over N1trillion into the education sector in the last four years through the Universal Basic Education Commission, Tertiary Education Trust Fund and Needs Assessment interventions.

Quote:“We also released N25 billion to public universities to pay earned academic allowances to lecturers. Of course, you are all aware of the rot we uncovered at JAMB and many other institutions.
“Our home grown school feeding programme covering more than 10 million children, coupled with our social investment initiative has encouraged many parents to send their children to school and also pay for more teachers in classrooms.
“In the next four years we shall continue with the work to transform the sector bearing in mind our high population growth rate, financial challenges and security issues, especially those grossly affected areas,” Buhari added.

A Russian social media star has been found dead inside a suitcase in her apartment with her throat slit.

Ekaterina Karaglanova was found with knife wounds to her body in her flat in Moscow on Friday.

The 24-year-old, who had recently graduated as a doctor, had just begun a new relationship and was planning a holiday to the Netherlands to celebrate her birthday.

Her parents became concerned when they were unable to contact her in the days leading up to her trip and asked the landlord for access to her flat. When they arrived, they found the suitcase in the hallway.

Police said there was no evidence of a struggle and that there was no weapon at the murder scene.

They also added that her ex-boyfriend was seen on CCTV in the days before the discovery and he has now fled the country.

Femi Fani-Kayode Describes The Ministerial Screening As 'A Pitiful Joke'

Former Minister of Aviation Femi Fani-Kayode has berated the confirmation of all the 43 ministerial nominees by the Nigerian Senate.

Igbere TV recalls that the confirmation was concluded earlier on Tuesday after the conclusion of the screening conducted by the upper chamber.

Fani-Kayode who made his view known through his twitter handle described the exercise a pitiful joke

Read his tweet below;

“When I was nominated to be a Minister by OBJ 13 years ago in 2006 I was screened by the Senate for no less than two hours and thirty gruelling and very difficult minutes on live television. There is no question that they did not ask me and there is none that I did not answer.”

“In those days days the Senate had great men and powerful intellectuals in its ranks. What we see today in the name of Ministerial screening is a pitiful joke. "Smile, show your teeth, bow and go" is NOT screening: it is a crass display of comic relief which is far below the Senate,” he added.

Fire destroys 20 vehicles, 10 shops at Owode Onirin market in Lagos

On Monday night, July 29th, fire swept through Owode Onirin, the popular auto parts market near Ikorodu destroying over 20 vehicles, 10 shops and belongings worth millions of naira.

Also destroyed were buses, bonnets, vehicle engines and cash kept in some shops. The inferno, which destroyed Line M of the market, started around 9:30pm as some residents said they saw flames and heard sounds, which forced them to run for safety.

They said they later got water to put out the fire. A business owner in the market, Mr. Wasiu Bello, alleged that the fire was caused by the carelessness of a food seller, who left a burning coal in her shop. Bello lost his shop and belongings to the inferno. He alleged that the fire started from the food seller’s shop.  He said he lost some vehicles to the fire, a bonnet worth N1.2 million that had  been sold, but yet to be taken away by the buyer.

Another victim, Olamilekan Semiu, alleged that the night guards had not been performing their duties efficiently. “If they are efficient, they ought to have noticed the fire before it became wild,” he added.

Semiu urged the community’s leaders to take steps to prevent a recurrence. “New guards should be employed and a security house built close to the line to ensure observation of the vicinity. We will enact a rule that no food seller will be allowed to own shops in the market, because nothing else could have wreaked this havoc if not for their fire,” he said.

An eyewitness accused the Lagos State Fire Service of late response to the emergency call. “They put out the fire at about 11:30pm after using a full water tank,” he said.

President Buhari's witness in court denies they submitted their certificates to the Nigerian army

One of President Buhari's witnesses at the Presidential tribunal on Tuesday July 30, denied they submitted their certificates to the Nigerian army.

Maj.-Gen. Paul Tarfa (retd.) was led in as one of President Buhari's witnesses alongside Chief of Staff (COS) Abba Kyari and Suleiman Maiadua, a retired civil servant that said he graduated with Buhari in 1961.

A highlight of Maj.-Gen. Paul Tarfa's testimony in court include denying they submitted their certificates to the Nigerian army. Confirming that their medium of instruction after being enlisted into the Nigerian army in 1962 “was English language and English language alone", Tarfa also said that he and Buhari “passed the examinations in flying colours.”

He identified some of those they enlisted into the Army with as Brigadier Ola Oni, Brigadier Duro Ajayi, Col. J. C. Ojukwu, the late Brigadier Abdullahi Shelem and the late Maj. Shehu Yar’Adua.

When asked if they submitted their certificates to the Nigerian army while being cross-examined by counsel for the Independent National Electoral Commission Yunus Usman (SAN), he said nothing like that happened.

Quote:Usman: “You submitted all your school certificates to the Nigerian Army when you were enlisted?”
Tarfa: “There was nothing of such.”

Tarfa also said Buhari has authority over all military formations as commander-in-chief when cross-examined by Atiku's lead counsel Livy Uzokwu who thanked him for being truthful.

Recall that President Buhari's secondary school certificate controversy made the headlines in 2015. He was presented with a WASSCE certificate in 2018 after insisting his credentials are still with the military and swearing to an affidavit wherein he told INEC they were with the military.

Mississippi police officers filmed pointing gun at black man, choking and body-slaming him

A video going viral online shows Mississippi police officers harassing a black man and using brutal force on him.

In the video, a police officer is seen pointing a gun at the black man while giving him conflicting instructions. The black man seemed afraid at this point and his girlfriend can be heard in the background warning him not to move at all so they won't have an excuse to shoot him.

The girlfriend is then heard asking the officer which he wants; for her boyfriend to get on the ground or for him to get his license.

Confused, the boyfriend put his hands in the air where the officer could see it.

Soon another officer joins them and lunges at the African American man then begins to choke him. Both police officers then wrestled the man to the ground as he kept screaming that he did nothing. His girlfriend, who was filming, can also be heard screaming in terror.

For example, they have been shown to boost athletic performance, speed muscle recovery and decrease appetite (18Trusted Source, 19Trusted Source). However, research on exogenous ketones is limited, Max Healthness and many experts argue that these supplements aren’t necessary for keto dieters. Additionally, most of the studies on exogenous ketones used a more powerful type of exogenous ketones called ketone esters, not ketone salts, which is the most common form found in supplements available to consumers.

RHAPSODY OF REALITIES

WEDNESDAY, 31ST JULY.

CHILDREN OF LIGHT

Ye are all the children of light, and the children of the day: we are not of the night, nor of darkness (1 Thessalonians 5:5).

In the verse above, the Spirit, writing through the Apostle Paul, was addressing Christians; He’s talking to you, and He minces no words in describing you. He says you’re light! You’re born of God, of His Word, which is light, so you’re the offspring of Light.

The Spirit expresses the same thought in Ephesians 5:8. It reads, “For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Live as children of light” (NIV). How interesting this is! It doesn’t say you were in the darkness; it says you were darkness, but now, you’re light. This means you can also declare with audacity, as Jesus did, “As long as I’m in the world, I’m the light of the world!”

Light illuminates. You have a calling in this life to bring illumination to your world. Philippians 2:15 says, “That ye may be blameless and harmless, the sons of God, without rebuke, in the midst of a crooked and perverse nation, among whom ye shine as lights in the world.” Light gives leadership and direction; it describes. You’re the one to show the world how to live, what to do, and how to be successful, irrespective of the darkness in the world.

It makes no difference the darkness and problems in the world, you’re the hope and the solution that the world needs. The problems and hardship in the world today are your opportunities to shine and manifest the glory of God. Live with this consciousness every day.

CONFESSION

I’m a child of light, a child of the day. Therefore, I shine forth effusively, illuminating my world with glory and virtue. Through me, the unsaved hear and receive the light of the glorious Gospel and are transferred from darkness into God’s marvellous light, and from the power of Satan unto God. Praise God!

INTERVIEW: Onaiyekan blows hot over Shi’ites proscription, blasts FG on security, Ruga, others

[Image: BBCB541B-597F-49B5-BFD2-F6C048DE61C4.jpeg]

Catholic Archbishop of Abuja, Cardinal John Onaiyekan, has faulted the proscription of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN) by the Federal Government,
According to him, the move to ban the activities of the Muslim threatens Nigeria’s foreign image.

In an interview on Tuesday with DAILY POST and other select journalists in his Abuja residence, Onaiyekan says there is the urgent need for the government to reaffirm its commitment to respecting the rights of religious groups to exist and operate freely in the country without undue interference. Against that backdrop, he called on the authorities to reverse itself on the proscription of the Shi’ites.
Other issues the top cleric spoke on include: President Buhari’s incoming cabinet list, the state of insecurity across Nigeria, the suspended Ruga settlement plan, etc.
EXCERPTS:

Federal Government has proscribed the Islamic Movement in Nigeria, better known as the El-Zakzaky’s group or Shi’ites. What do you make of that move?
“The proscription of a religious group is certainly not seen as our character in Nigeria. But government has an allergy to admitting they have made an error.
“I hold to the Presidency’s statement that they are not proscribing any religious organisation. The issue now is to press the government to reconfirm that they are committed to respecting the rights of religious groups to exist and to operate in Nigeria. That right should be given not only to the Catholics, the Sunnis, the Anglicans and other groups but also to the Shi’ites.

“My hope is that having made that blunt mistake, the government will reverse itself because the impression the Shi’ite proscription gives about Nigeria around the world is terrible.
“It portrays us us as a country where government can wake up one day, get a court order from nowhere that a particular religious group is proscribed. If we allow that to go, it means Catholics and my own religion too can be prescribed any day by any government who manages to get any judge to an ex-parte or non ex-parte order.
“The Shi’ites have told us why they are protesting. The fact that I have not joined them in their protest does not mean that I don’t believe they have the right to protest. Their leader has been under detention against the same court.
“If I were a Muslim, I will also fight for the freedom of every Muslim, because freedom of religion is not only the freedom between different religions; there is also freedom within religions. I don’t know what will happen if I was detained unjustly and the court orders my release and they refuse to allow me to come out, I don’t know if anybody will be able to stop the Catholics from protesting.
“If a religious group goes against the existing laws of the nation, hold them accountable and prosecute them. From that point onwards, it is the job of the judiciary to determine for them. But, for the government to just wake up and prosecute them is a mistake. It is one step too far. We cannot allow Sheikh El-Zakzaky to die in the hands of government.”
Today, the state of insecurity across the country is alarming. Do you see any glimmer of hope for a safe and secure Nigeria in the near future?
“Truth of the matter is that we are in deep trouble. The security of the country is in serious condition. Not only that we know this, we suffer it.
“It has not always been like this but the government congratulates itself that it is doing its best and that we Nigerians should be grateful. For me, that’s where the problem lies.
“Until government recognises that security has changed for the worst in the last five years, it is unlikely that they will put forward means to reverse the trend. We still want to believe the state can protect us, because the alternative to is that we do not have a government.”
What do you make of President Buhari’s incoming cabinet and the tsunami of ‘Bow and Go’ Nigerians witnessed during the just concluded ministerial nominees screening by the Senate?
“I can hardly accuse the National Assembly of not doing the right thing, because they claim that they are doing the ‘bow and go’ screening of the ministerial nominees in line with their standing rules.
“As a Nigerian watching, I am looking forward to a federal executive council that will move into action swiftly so that within a month or two, Nigeria will be able to say ‘Mr. President has put together a good team.
“But if you ask me, I will say 43 ministers are too many for the presidential cabinet. But we can only make a final judgement at the end of the day, when we see how they perform. By their fruits, we shall know them. Democracy can only be judged by its fruit, which is good governance.”
FG’s Ruga settlement plan may have been suspended but Nigerians are unsettled about the project. Do you think fears of the people are justified?
“The federal government did not define to Nigerians what Ruga is? What the objectives are? How will it work? These questions gave rise to a free ground for all kinds of conspiracy theories which has generated a major crisis on the nation.
“If the government had explained what Ruga means, Nigerians may begin to see for themselves what the good intentions for the Ruga project were and perhaps embrace it.
“My position is that let us not throw away the Ruga plan like throwing away the baby with bad water but let us apply it now positively to every part of Nigeria.”
Is the call for restructuring obsolete and out of place considering the state of the nation?
“We must admit that the structure we have on ground is not working well. No country has a perfect structure. Every country is working to improve your structure.
“There is nothing special with the fact that there is something wrong with the structure we inherited. What is needed is to improve it. So, the call for restructuring is an effort to look at our structure of governance with a view to seeing how we can improve upon it.
“Just like a building with a faulty architecture, the thinking is that the architecture of our state is wrong and no amount of patch up can fix it. We seem to have arrived at a situation where we cannot continue to patch up this system.
“We need to improve the structure and doing so means we may need to sit down together as a people and decide the kind of federation we want for our country.”

Quote:By Ismail Adebayo,

A man who reportedly sneaked into the ceiling of Guaranty Trust Bank (GTB) in Birnin Kebbi, Kebbi State with plans to rob it has been arrested.

It was alleged that the suspect, identified as Idam Jeremiah, had planned to hide in the ceiling until the bank closed to customers so he could steal money from the bank.

A witness, who preferred anonymity, also told our correspondent that the young man pretended to be a customer of the bank to gain entrance into the bank.

“When he entered the bank he pretended as if he wanted to use the toilet and climbed into the ceiling,” he said.

It was gathered that one of the cleaners in the bank noticed the slippers he abandoned in the toilet as he climbed into the ceiling, also leaving some stains on the wall.

“She called the attention of the security men at the bank and one of them went up the ceiling to find out if someone was there. That was how we discovered someone hiding in the ceiling,” the source said.

It was also gathered that after he was discovered in the ceiling the bank management called in the police but the man refused to come until they threatened to shoot him.

The spokesman of Kebbi Police Command, DSP Nafiu Abubakar, confirmed the incident to our correspondent. He said “The matter is still being investigated by the CID.”

God will restore Pastor Fatoyinbo even if he is guilty of rape allegation against him - CAN chairman

Rev. Israel Akanji, the North-Central Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has stated that God will restore Pastor Biodun Fatoyinbo even if he is found guilty of the rape allegation against him by Busola Dakolo.

The CAN Chairman backed his claim of the Senior Pastor of Commonwealth of Zion Assembly (COZA) being restored by God with the Biblical account of the condemned thief pardoned by Jesus Christ at the Cross of Calvary.

The Pastor said while preaching to his members at the First Baptist Church in Garki area of Abuja;

Quote:“I still pray for that pastor (Fatoyinbo). I am not sure he erred; I have no right to judge because I don’t know whether the accusations against him are true or false. It has yet to be determined but even if it is true, I still pray that God will restore him fully to the work of the ministry.
“Individuals locked up by the EFCC who are seen to be the worst people on the face of the earth… we pray for them. And that church, we needed to go and speak and pray with them because of what they were passing through and that is what we did.
“Now, people may have different opinions but I hold the bible as the pastor, First Baptist Church, Garki, Abuja. I have no regret that I went to that church (COZA). I didn’t go there to endorse evil but I wanted to say that even if you are the worst sinner, Jesus Christ still has a place for you.”
He said critics should always ask, “What will Jesus do?” before making judgments.
“If Jesus were in our generation, he would be criticised for things he did. So, is it what people say that matters? Not in all cases. Yes, some things people say matter but when it has to do with eternity and the kingdom of God, it doesn’t matter what anybody says.
“I pray that all those who have seen this as an entry point to fight the Christian faith in this nation will fail in the name of Jesus. God, I pray for that Pastor, Biodun Fatoyinbo. He told me he gave his life to Christ in the Baptist Student Fellowship of Emmanuel Baptist Church, Ilorin.
“I didn’t go there (COZA) because he was a Baptist. I didn’t know he had anything to do with Baptist. I just went and he saw me as a father. I thank you, God. And I pray that you intervene such that the needed correction should there be any, be made
“And God, you, who denied Peter after he denied you in your mercy, you will restore your servant.
“I pray that the family which felt wounded, should that be true, please heal their minds, restore them as well.”

Rev. Israel Akanji had few weeks ago paid a solidarity visit to COZA with Rev Dr Samson Jonah the CAN Chairman in FCT,

The Kenyan government have deported a Caucasian man being paraded in the country as Jesus Christ and they have arrested the pastors who invited him and convinced their followers he's the real son of God.

Two church pastors invited the Caucasian man to their country then managed to convince their followers that he's Jesus Christ of Nazareth and he has finally come back as promised. The Caucasian went around taking money from Kenyans to perform miracles and secure seats for them in heaven and this went viral.

Daily Africa reports that Kenya’s Government has now deported the fake Jesus and they have arrested the dubious pastors who invited him.

17 people die after a Pakistani army plane crashed into a residential area (Photos)

At least 17 are dead after a Pakistani army plane crashed into a residential area in the major city of Rawalpindi early this morning, the country's military said in a statement.

Residents reported hearing a loud explosion at about 2 a.m. after seeing a plane flying unusually low over the city. "It was very, very low, unlike the planes that usually fly over the area. Suddenly, the plane started doing somersaults in the air and abruptly crashed" said restaurant worker Irfan Zareen.

The plane came down in a suburb of Rawalpindi, between Bahria Town and the Defense Housing Authority, which is populated by working-class villages. Zareen said a number of houses were either damaged or destroyed.
Bike shop owner Mehvish Iqlaq said army helicopters and ambulances arrived and sealed off the area within 10 minutes of the crash. The area had been dark, without street lights, when the plane came down, she added. "Perhaps the pilot had thought that was empty ground and attempted to land there," she said.

According to the military's Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) news agency, 12 of those killed were on the ground when the plane hit. The other five dead were crew members. Another two people have been reported injured.
Among the dead were two high-ranking officers in the Pakistan army, the statement read. There is currently no information about what caused the plane to crash into the city, which adjoins the Pakistani capital of Islamabad.

Sex: Adesua Etomi says she needs 5 minutes in BBNaija house with Khafi

Adesua Etomi in a tweet addressed to Biggie revealed that she needs just 5 minutes in the Big Brother Naija house.....and it is all because of Khafi.

The Nollywood actress said her time in the house will be to tell Khafi "something" which might be in one or two words. Adesua tweeted;

Quote:Dear Biggie, pls I need only 5 minutes in the house. I just want to tell Khafi something. Just one or two words

Though Adesua Etomi never revealed what she wants to tell Khafi, it may not be far from the continous sex she has been engaging in with Gedoni. Recall that Gedoni in a 'kiss-and-tell' moment described her (Khafi) as a sex-addict who disturbs him a lot.

Soldiers in Aba reportedly shaved off hair of people with dreadlocks and colour dye before taking them to unknown destination

In yet another example of disregard for basic Human Rights, soldiers of the Nigerian Army are reported to have swooped on residents in the commercial hub of Aba to shave off the hair of young men with dreadlocks and colour dye before taking them to unknown destination.

Some residents, who witnessed the incident, said they were afraid that another season of Operation Python Dance might have commenced in the state.

An eyewitness, who pleaded anonymity, said the soldiers visited major streets in the city dehumanising young men and taking them to an unknown destination without any explanation.
The eyewitness stated, “Their targets were young men, who wore dreadlocks and those who tinted their hair.
“The masked soldiers flogged many of their victims and used scissors to cut off the hair and then threw the victims into their vehicles and zoomed off.
"It was a very sorry sight. We were all afraid to get close.
“The soldiers came unannounced and started arresting, flogging, maltreating and cutting the hair of any young person sporting dreadlocks as well as long and tinted hair.
“We have never seen such wickedness before and nobody has ever told us that wearing of dreadlocks is an offence.
“All of a sudden, the soldiers came to the Ehi Road and did all manners of evil to people sporting dreadlocks before my very eyes.”
Another resident, who identified herself simply as Mrs Mba said: “I went to the market to buy something and suddenly, I saw people standing afar but moving closer, I saw some young men sitting on the floor and being shaved by soldiers.
“Honestly, the people around were afraid to ask any question, because no one knew actually what crime the victims had committed.
“After shaving the boys, the soldiers eventually bundled them into their vehicle, packed the hair and drove off.”
When contacted, the acting Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, 14 Brigade, Ohafia, Major Aliu Kadiri, confirmed the incident.
He said the Nigerian Army headquarters were aware of the matter.
He added, “If there is a new special operation going on in Aba, I will find out from the commanding officer and confirm.
“We are on the issue of the haircut. Our headquarters have called us on it; we are handling the matter.”

Photos: Borno Govenor pays unscheduled visits to two hospitals, finds patients in pathetic condition, no doctor on duty

The Borno State Governor,  Prof Umara Zulum paid an unscheduled visit to Umaru Shehu Ultra Modern Hospital and the State Specialist hospital, last night.

At Umaru Shehu Ultra Modern Hospital, he met patients in pathetic condition and could not find a single doctor on duty. As a result of their absence, Prof  Zulum had to place a call to all the 10 medical Doctors on duty, but none of them answered the call not knowing it was the Governor that was calling.

Only 10 nurses were found on duty out of about 138 nurses on the payroll. The Governor went round all the wards to see the situations of the patients and later requested for the hospital's staff pay book and made role call.

At the State Specialist Hospital, some few medical doctors were on duty when the Govenor arrived. However, the Governor was not satisfied by the quality of services rendered at both Hospitals.
