The state government issued a statement today saying that sequel to a petition received from the families of the victims alleging extra judicial killing of the deceased persons by the four police officers, the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Moyosore Onigbanjo SAN has directed the immediate investigation and review of the case.

Moshood Afolabi, 24, arrived at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos on Saturday, a day after he left Ulaanbaatar, the capital of Mongolia.

Afolabi was trapped in Mongolia for 16 months.

After his football contract was abruptly cancelled in August last year, he was left in the country with $150 and overstayed his tourist visa.

The situation made it impossible to secure work, get his travel documents in order or afford a flight home.

"Im very happy to have gained freedom leaving Mongolia," he told Al Jazeera. "I didnt believe Id be in Nigeria on Saturday. I didnt believe it. Now, Im experiencing so many things in Nigeria. Fresh air, fresh food. Im really happy."

In August, Al Jazeera reported on his plight and that of many other aspiring African footballers who are now stranded in several countries, duped by people posing as agents who tricked them into paying significant sums, ostensibly to travel and play for foreign clubs.

In Afolabis case, a Nigerian man who lived near his home in Osogbo, in the southwestern Nigerian state of Osun, spun him a tale, took his savings and sent him to play for local Mongolian club Western Khovd FC.

But the job did not last beyond his tourist visa and he quickly fell into serious financial and personal problems.

Christopher Hannah, a Scottish businessman who had lived in Mongolia for six months, read and empathised with Afolabis story.

"I had come across Moshood two weeks before I contacted him. I saw the article on Al Jazeera and at the time I was in Scotland," Hannah told Al Jazeera.

"I flew back to Mongolia and I saw it posted again on a forum and I remember someone was asking, Why doesnt someone help this guy?"

Hannah, who was at the time working on setting up a cashmere business in the East Asian country, had experience in the football industry and a passion for the sport.

He was previously an image rights agent for several European football clubs and footballers.

"Football is one of the best ways to break communication or culture barriers. This was the main reason Moshood and I could come together," he said.

After the Nigerian footballer spent a week detained by the Mongolian immigration service in late September, Hannah booked and paid for Afolabis $900 flight home, while Afolabis friend Wael, an Egyptian immigrant, gave him the $750 he needed to pay for overstaying his visa.

"I felt sad because I hadnt experienced it in my life to be in a detention room for seven days," said Afolabi. "For the first three days in detention, I was drinking water, fasting and praying to Almighty Allah to save me."

Hannah said that his life in Mongolia took a turn for the worse after he helped Afolabi, claiming he was treated with hostility by locals and was eventually denied a business visa extension.

He has now returned to his native Scotland and is in the process of opening a new football agency focusing on regions such as Africa.

Up to thousands of scammed African footballers

It is not clear exactly how many hopeful African players are stranded across the world but according to some estimates, the number is in the thousands.

In 2017, there was an influx of more than 100 African talents to Nepal, a south Asian country known least for football.

British media reported that an estimated 15,000 players are trafficked to Europe annually.

In Russia, there are dozens of cases.

Beverley Agbakoba Onyejianya, a Nigerian sports lawyer, said being deported could impact a players mental health.

"Being deported may leave a footballer being stigmatised and even anxious about their future opportunities and ability to earn a good income," she said. "The players career may or may not be affected depending on how they work to find new opportunities."

Back at home and reflecting on his journey, Afolabi says he will continue to play his beloved sport.

"Football is my passion," he said. "I want to use football to help my family and other people that do not have the means. I believe ill make it in football and I want to continue."

The ADC Delta State Chairman, Prince Joe Chukwu has alleged that his party man's gruesome murder was politically motivated, citing that his overwhelming popularity in the area might have fueled envy that had metamorphosed into his death.

Chukwu revealed that Taylor brought ADC into Warri South-West and had since been the Chairman of the party in the LGA. He said during the 2019 election, he was equally found worthy, grounded and qualified to contest the Delta State House of Assembly election and he was elected as candidate for the party.

According to the ADC State Chairman, "We are shocked at the killing of Taylor who happened to be one of our most worthy and outstanding members."

"Just last week he called me that he had already convinced three aspirants from three local government areas to contest for the Delta State Local Government election as chairmen, that he would need forms for them. And I told him that DSIEC had not announced the time table for Local Government election, that he should exercise patience till when that window is opened."

"We even have a state meeting on Friday and hotels had been booked for members and delegates from Abuja and other places, but I have shelved the meeting due to this sudden and unfortunate news. He was a loyal and committed party man who built his personal house and converted it to the party's secretariat in Warri South-West."

"We are investigating the cause of his death; we have sent people for that task. We suspect his killing was politically motivated, because this was a man so popular to the extent that he had wooed key APC and PDP members into ADC in Warri South-West."

"If they said the killing was as a result of land dispute between Aladja and Ogbe-Ijoh, we got information that the issue had been settled amicably. Now, why the killing? Why was he shot inside his home? Who were those that killed him and for what reason?", Chukwu asked.

The Ogun state police command have arrested 28-year-old Kazeem Yusuf, pictured above, for allegedly beating his wife to death at their Enugada residence on September 23rd.
 
Yusuf who has been on the run, went to the police station on the day of the incident to report that she slumped and died while she was fetching water. Detectives were sent to the scene and while the deceased’s body was being examined, Yusuf sneaked out and has been on the run since then.
 
A statement from the spokesperson of the state police command, Abimbola Oyeyemi, reads in part

The corpse was subsequently taken to General Hospital Ijaiye mortuary while a massive manhunt was launched for the husband. The manhunt yielded positive result on October 14, when his hideout at Itori was discovered and he was arrested.
“He has since made a confessional statement that he beat up his wife over a minor disagreement and that the deceased collapsed in the process and gave up the ghost. He stated that it was not the first time of beating the woman, but he did not know that the beating will result to her untimely death.
“The corpse of the deceased, a mother of one, has been buried by her relations according to Islamic rite. The Commissioner of Police Bashir Makama has ordered the transfer of the suspect to Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID) for further investigation and prosecution.”

An official has disclosed that the federal government is working on how to disengage over 200,000 N-Power beneficiaries.

According to The Guardian, the president’s senior special assistant on social investment, Maryam Uwais, during an interview with NTA, said she is discussing with the Ministry of Finance on the next plan.

In a 2018 statement, the government said: “The 2016 beneficiaries will proceed into an enhancement programme as you continue to give your service and earn your monthly stipend.”

The government plans however have remained unclear.

It said that the N500 and N1000 denominations remained the most commonly counterfeited banknotes, which accounted for 65.29 percent and 34.49 per cent respectively of the total counterfeit notes discovered.

The bank said that to preserve the integrity of the banknotes in circulation, it partnered with Bankers Warehouse PLC and security agencies, to intensify efforts at mitigating the incidences of counterfeiting during the period under review.

The apex bank also said that the Currency- in-Circulation (CIC), grew by 0.8 percent to N2, 329.7 billion as at December 2018 ending.

The report noted that the growth in CIC reflected the high dominance of cash in the economy and an increase in economic activities.

“A breakdown of the CIC indicated that in terms of volume and value, the proportion of higher denomination banknotes (₦100, ₦200, ₦500 and ₦1000) in total, rose from 41.9 to 44.3 percent and 96.9 to 97.6 percent, respectively.

“The lower denomination currency notes continued to be preponderant in terms of volume, constituting 55.7 percent of the total.

“In value terms, it constituted 2.4 percent of the total banknotes. The ratio of CIC to nominal GDP, which measures the moneyness of the economy, fell slightly by 0.1 percentage point, to 1.8 percent in 2018.”

It said that the decline in the CIC/GDP ratio reflected increased usage of e-payment products such as electronic payments card.

94-year-old Ugandan father of 100 marries four new wives; says he still hopes to have more children and marry more women






A 94-year-old father of over 100 children, Nulu Ssemakula,  recently expanded his already bloated household by marrying four new wives in Ruyonza, a largely polygamous village in Uganda.
 
Ssemakula was the first Muslim from Ruyonza to make the pilgrimage to Mecca in 1977, reports Uganda Monitor.
 
Ssemakula has been successful in expanding his family boasting of more than 19 wives with whom he has had more than 100 children and is still counting. His youngest child is 10 months old now and the youngest wife, who is 24 years old is pregnant. He currently lives with 66 of his young children. While some of his children have grandchildren, the great grandfather says he still hopes to have more children and even marry more women.
 

 
His grandfather, a one Kashwijuma, a parish chief, was among the first Baganda in colonial era to migrate to Ankole on invitation of the Omugabe of Ankole after signing an agreement for rule with British colonialists. Ssemakula’s father, Juma Tamuzadde, heroically opted to stay in Kyaruhuga Parish, currently Bwongyera Sub-county in Kajara, Ntungamo District after most of his family chose to return to Buganda. Kashwijuma had been killed by a lion.
 
Ssemakula married his first wife in 1952, who was soon joined by five others. They still live together.
“I unfortunately lost four of my wives while others who needed more than I could afford, I let them go. But they left me with children; I will still marry more if I still have more years and even have more children. In children and wives, is where I find my pleasure. That is my true wealth,” Ssemakula says.
 
Ssemakula has set up a mosque and a primary school (Kiyombero Primary School), a coffee huller and a dairy milk cooling machine in the village to cater for his family. Surrounded by the homes of his children and grandchildren, Ssemakula’s home is a relatively huge house with red ironsheets. The house is accessed by only one entry where the old man is often seated on a bench as he watches over his “empire”. It is a typical agricultural homestead and the family provides the much needed manpower for the vast coffee plantation.
 

 
On the day of Daily Monitor's visit, Ssemakula is supervising four of his wives and their children who are clearing a plot of land in preparation for the planting season. He stands at the end of the lot, panga in hand marking the place they must stop at before they call it a day.
“When we wake up to do a task, we must make sure we complete it before we go home, that is what we do every working day. It is not normal that we are all here, I live in town and children are always at school, so when we have chance, we utilise it,”he reveals.
 
It is not easy to identify which child belongs to which mother, they all look the same and they blend easily. The girls and boys chat and the children play as if they are just at school.
 
There are the young ones on their mothers’ backs while others who cannot walk on their own are being taken care of by their older siblings. These ones are the ones at home; dozens of others have either got married and have their own families or are working away from home.
 
Shadiah Tumuheirwe, the oldest of the wives at home, is the leader. She issues instructions on what has to be done.
“I have to take care of everyone here. And everyone who has a complaint has to pass it through me, that is what protocol demands. if anyone comes to him without first telling me, he will dismiss it and invite me first. We are used to that arrangement. When it is work time we all must wake up and work, there is no exception except the elderly wife whom we all call mama. We cook, eat, work together and sleep under the same roof,” Tumuheirwe says of the family structure.
 

 
Ssemakula is soft spoken, a centre of command and the head of the family. Dressed in a trench coat, loose shirt and trousers, his clothes are neat, giving him the look of a well-to-do man of the village. He walks and talks with the energy and clarity of a younger person. He has a good sense of humour and is always quick with a joke for the visitors, his children and the wives laugh dutifully although they must have heard the jokes over and again.
“When you have many children and many wives, it is like managing the country. You have to pray for the wisdom to know when you must but be serious and when you need to lighten the mood,” he explains.
 
At home, there is kraal of cows and sheep, goats and a chicken pen with broilers and local chicken.
“The family eats a sheep every week and whenever they get a guest,” he says.
He also owns a hotel in Rubaare Trading Centre where he spends most of his time. One of his former clients is the deputy Attorney General and Rushenyi county Member of Parliament Mwesigwa Rukutana who was born in this same village.
“Rukutana grew up looking at me and how I took care of my family. He once told me he got the inspiration from me to marry more than one wife. We have since lost touch because he is busy,” Ssemakula talks of his relationship with the deputy Attorney General.
The greatest challenge he has had in life has not been a big family, but the loss of his head of cattle to the 1979 war rebels.
“They came here and took away my 100 heads of cattle. I was suspected to be a strong supporter of the Amin regime. This incident showed the need to have as many children as possible to defend me. My wisdom was rewarded when one of my sons became a lawyer, took my case on and eventually got me Shs100m compensation,” the old man says with satisfaction.
 
At his home, there are five wives, the eldest Hajat Madinah Namatovu, Shadiah Tumuheirwe, Rehema Nalubega, Sulainah Arinaitwe and Jalia Kyomugisha all except Nalubega converted to Islam following their marriage to Ssemakula. His youngest wife Christine Ninsiima, 24, who lives with him at his hotel in Rubaare town and is the hotel manager is yet to convert though.
 
Polygamy is legal in Uganda, where a man is allowed to marry multiple wives at a time. Due to this, most families tend to contain an abundance of children.
 
According to the 2014 Census of Uganda, around 8.3 per cent of all women aged 18 years or more, were currently married, cohabiting or in a polygamous relationship.
Managing co-wife relationships
“We might be co-wives but we love and treat each other like sisters. This harmony in our marriage comes from our husband, whom we also treat as a father. None of us, I think cheats on him, he is more than 90 years but when he gets to you, he has the energy of a 30-year-old. He has no illness and he can never complain of anything. He gives us everything we need,” Arinaitwe, one of the wives says.
 
His children seem to enjoy the big family the most. “We have a good life, when you live here, there is no way you can have a challenge at school because this is more like a school. Every woman is our mother, and the only big mother we have is mama, whom we all call grandmother. Our father says he wants us to develop into hardworking men who can take care of even bigger families,” Shafik Muhwezi, one of the children and student at Nyamitanga Secondary School, Mbarara, says.
 
A proponent of education, Ssemakula has been able to send his children to school. The family boasts of engineers, doctors, nurses, clinical officers, teachers and lawyers others have pursued vocational studies and others run businesses.

"Hajji Ssemakula is my inspiration. While he has many wives and children, you can never hear of conflicts in his home. He hosts all his children at least once every year and they slaughter animals for a meeting. I think many who wish to have polygamous families should consult him" said a businessman Ruteda Laboratories.
"While he has many wives and many children, he remains a very committed Muslim, very principled and his love for social political, economic and religious development is enormous. He has donated land for the construction of a Mosque at Kiyombero and has also given a lot of money to have it constructed. To him and his family, we owe a lot." said Sheikh Swaleh Kashangirwe, District Khadi Ntungamo.

Three Nigerian nationals arrested in India for job fraud






A four-member job fraud gang, including three Nigerians and a woman from Nagaland, was arrested by the Cyberabad Cyber Crime police in Hyderabad on Saturday, October 12.
 
Addressing the media, Cyberabad Police Commissioner VC Sajjanar said the four were cheating several job aspirants after promising them jobs abroad.
 
The accused persons are D. Mohammed alias Nwosu Donald, 35, Musa Halimat, 29,  Ndour Alioune alias Benedict Enabulele, 32 and Holito Zhimomi, 35.
 
Two other suspects identified as Petosile Ugha and Samson William are currently on the run.

On 29.08.2019, the police received a complaint from one Mr V.Rajan Babu R/o.Kukatpally, Hyderabad in which he stated that he is working in Pattnaik Steels and Alloys Ltd, Odisha as C.E.O since 3 years. 
He is in the habit of changing his job from one organization to another for better position and high salary. He being Power Engineer, he is following said practice since 2002 after taking voluntary retirement from the Department of Atomic Energy, Government of India. He is regularly updating his resume in major national and international job portals as he has vast experience of working in 7 counties earlier. 
 

 
In the month of Jan, 2019, he received a phone call in the name of one Mr Heather Williams, C.E.O and Business Development Officer of “Roggal Hotel and Apartments Las Angles, California” and informed him that his resume has been shortlisted for Roggal Hotel and Apartments as Chief Manager and asked him to attend interview. On 20th Feb, 2019 he received a call in the name of Miss Heather Williams, who claims to be the wife of Mr Williams of Roggal Hotel and Apartments informing him that she visited India from Boston International Airport to Indira Gandhi International Airport, New Delhi and staying at British Consulate, New Delhi to interview him and later informed him that he got selected after taking telephonic interview.
After which, the complainant received a call from Mobile No.8448740868 where she introduced herself as Ms Akita Kumari from New Delhi and informed him that Miss Heather Williams a carried DD of US $ 1,75,000 towards his 12 months salary and asked to pay of Rs.55,000/- initially for release of DD carried by Miss Heather Williams, on believing her words complainant paid the Rs.55,000/-. Again the said Ms Akita Kumari called the complainant and asked to pay Rs.2,55,000/- for release of DD amount and provided the bank account numbers. After which Miss Heather Williams also forced him to pay an amount of Rs.10,00,000/- for release of DD. After 4 days, again Ms Akita Kumari called him and asked to pay an amount of Rs.8,65,000/-. After which one person by name Mr Robert who claims to be Public Relations Officer of British Consulate, New Delhi contacted him on WhatsApp (+447482868564) and convinced him that the DD $ of 1,75,000/- will be given to him within one week, if he pay the amount demanded by Ms Akita Kumari. Accordingly the complaint paid an amount of Rs.47 Lakhs in total into the bank accounts given to him by Mr Akita Kumari. Basing on the above complaint a case is registered at Cyber Crime Police Station, Cyberabad and investigated into.
Background of the accused: 
1: Diongue Mohammed @ Nwosu Donald Prosper @ Mr Heather Williams
He is the mastermind of this crime. Though he is a Nigerian national, he came to India on Senagal Passport by changing his name from Nwosu Donald Prosper to Diongue Mohammed on Tourist VISA in March, 2018. He purchased the database of abroad job seekers and sends the mail to the job seekers to provide the job in abroad. Initially he traps the job seekers and later he directs A-2, 3 and 4 to lure the job seekers and to collect amount in different names from them. 
2: Musa Halimat @ Miss Heather Williams
She is a Nigerian national and came to India on Medical Visa in the month of June, 2016. She is the girl friend of A-1 and supporting him to speak with the victims with the support of other accused. 
3: Ndour Alioune @ Benedict Enabulele @ Mr Robert
He is a Nigerian national, but came to India on Senagal Passport by changing his name from Benedict Enabulele to Ndour Alioune on Tourist VISA in the month of Sep, 2018. He is providing technical assistant for creating fake e-mail Ids and sending the mails to the victims. He also chats with the victims by using UK Mobile Number Whatsapp.
4: Mrs Holito Zhimomi @ Ms Akita Kumari: 
She hails from Nagaland and married to Francis Aghahon, a Nigerian national in the month of April, 2019 at Nigeria. She assists A-1 for speaking with the victims, by using her name as Ms Akita Kumari and ask them to pay the amounts for arranging job.
5: Petosile Ugha
He is arranging bank accounts to the accused for remitting the amounts by victims.
6: Samson William: 
He is arranging bank accounts to the accused for remitting the amounts by victims. Modus Operandi of the Accused: Investigation revealed that, A-1). Mr Diongue Mohammed @ Nwosu Donald Prosper Mr Heather Williams is the mastermind of this crime and whereas A-2). Musa Halimat @ Miss Heather Williams is his girl friend. She is supporting him to spoke with the victims in the name of Miss Heather Williams. A-3). Mr Ndour Alioune @ Benedict @ Mr Robert is providing the technical assistant for creating fake e-mail Ids and sending the mails to the victims. A-4). Mrs Holito Zhimomi @ Akita Kumari spoke with the victims in the name of Ms Akita Kumari and whereas the accused A-5). Petosile Ugha & A-6). Samson William are providing bank accounts for remitting the amounts by victims. A-1 is collecting job seekers database from various job portals and contact them by offering jobs in different international institutions. If anyone responds to the job offer of A-1, then A-2 contact them by using the name of Miss Heather Williams and tell them that she came to India to take the interview of job seekers and also tell that she is carrying Demand Draft of 12 months salary in advance in US dollars. Meanwhile A-4). Mrs Holito Zhimomi contacts the job seekers in the name of Ms Akita Kumari and ask for the amounts to release the Demand Draft in the name of job seeker. A-3). Ndour Alioune @ Benedict creates the fake mail Ids and sends the mails to the job seeker to make them to believe that their process is genuine. In this process the accused lured the complainant and taken an amount of Rs.47 lakhs on the pretext of release of DD of $ 1,75,000/-. As the accused (A-1, 2 and 3) are staying in India illegally even after expiry of their VISA cases will be registered against them under foreigners act also.

Nigerian educational system is in serious trouble - Soyinka






Nobel Laureate Prof Wole Soyinka on Sunday October 13, raised an alarm over the Nigerian educational system which he said is in serious trouble. 
 
In his speech at the presentation of a play entitled ‘Folly of Men’ (an adaptation of three plays from Soyinka’s ‘Trial of Brother Jero’, Femi Osofisan’s ‘No More the Wasted Breed’, and Bode Sowande’s ‘Mamiwater’s Wedding’) to mark the 90th anniversary of the Government College Ibadan at the University of Lagos (UNILAG), Soyinka described the Nigerian educational system as 'horrifying'. 
 
He further added the country is very low education wise, and there should be more effort in making people realize what education can be. 
 

Quote:“We are in serious trouble, education wise in this country. Let me not kid you; it’s horrifying,” the Nobel laureate said.
“That was why I was happy about the initiative of creating a model school and trying to resurrect this Government College and present it as the ideal. We are really very low, education wise.
“I have learnt how much they (old students association) have done in the last few days and I am very proud of their work. I just hope the government leaves them alone; don’t interfere with them. Let them bring back to everybody’s mind the possibility of what education can be.”

REFUSE TO BE OFFENDED

A man’s wisdom gives him patience; it is to his glory to overlook an offense (Proverbs 19:11 NIV).

Every day, we’re presented with opportunities to be offended. Offences will come, according to the Bible. People will do things that may hurt or offend you, but it’s entirely up to you to decide whether or not to be offended.

In Mark 7, the Syrophenician woman whose young daughter had an unclean spirit could have been offended at Jesus’ statement. She had cried after the Master for help, and in their ensuing dialogue, Jesus said, “Woman, it’s not right for us to give the children’s bread to dogs” (Mark 7:27).

The woman could have said, “How could He call me a dog, just because I’m asking him for help? Is this how He talks to people?” But no; she was smarter than that. In a remarkable display of humility, she replied, “...Yes, Lord: yet the dogs under the table eat of the children’s crumbs” (Mark 7:28). Consequently, she got her miracle!

Why wasn’t she offended by the Master’s statement? She had the heart of a true worshipper! As a true worshipper, you don’t care what anyone calls you, says to you or about you; you don’t care how anyone treats you. All that matters to you is your love for the Lord and your desire to please Him.

Always remember that it’s to your glory to overlook an offence. Don’t say, “I can’t take that insult for any reason!” You’ve been decorated with honour and kingdom dignity; no one, and nothing, can dishonour you.

This was the Apostle Paul’s understanding when he said, “For the sake of Christ, then, I am content with weaknesses, insults, hardships, persecutions, and calamities…” (2 Corinthians 12:10 ESV). Glory to God!

Loving heavenly Father, thank you for the counsel in your Word. I submit myself wholly to your Word, to walk in your righteousness always, showing forth your divine virtues in me. Quote:Kingsley Moghalu, a former presidential candidate, has demanded an apology from Femi Falana, Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) over the latter’s comments on defection.

Mr Falana, a Human Rights activist, had at a public gathering on Monday, claimed the Young Progressive Party (YPP) candidate in the last general election has defected to the All Progressive Congress (APC).

The activist also said the ruling party has assigned a portfolio to Moghalu.

But dismissing the claim as untrue, the former presidential candidate who dumped his party said he is not a member of any political party at the moment and has not been handed any portfolio.

“These statements are false. I am not a member of the APC. I have not been given any appointment by the APC government. This effort to malign my character and reputation, by an individual I have always respected, was a complete shock to me,” a statement he signed partly read.

“It is surprising that a man of Mr. Falana’s standing, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria no less, could make such weighty statements without verification.

“I demand and expect an apology and a public retraction of this falsehood from Mr. Falana,” Moghalu said while disparaging media houses that aired the claim of the lawyer.

Why I dumped YPP

He explained that after the elections he has moved into advocacy for electoral/political reforms and voter education in Nigeria and this is responsible for his decision to dump the YPP.

“I contested in the 2019 presidential election as the flag bearer of the the Young Progressives Party (YPP). Since the elections I have convened To Build a Nation (TBAN), a non-partisan citizens’ movement focused on advocacy for electoral/political reforms and voter education in Nigeria.

“In order to strengthen the integrity of the movement’s non-partisan stance, I recently announced my resignation from the YPP. I am NOT a member of any political party,” he explained.

Gunmen kill father, abduct two children in Abuja






Suspected kidnappers have killed a man identified as Ayuba Chashe and abducted his two children at Yebu community in Kwali Area Council of Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Abuja.
 
Chairman of Kwali Area Council, Danladi Chiya, who confirmed the incident to newsmen, said it happened in the midnight of Monday October 14th. 
 
This incident comes less than a week after two incidents of kidnappings were recorded in the FCT.
 
The FCT police command is yet to comment on the recent attack. 
 
 

Nigeria’s debt hits N25.7trn






Nigeria's  Debt Management Office on Tuesday October 15, announced that the country's public debt now stands at N25.7trn. 
 
It was further learnt the public debt increased by N3.32trn in one year as at the end of June 2019. The nation’s public debt which stood at N22.38trn as of June 2018, increased to N24.39trn in December 2018 and N24.95trn in March 2019. 
 
As at June 30, 2019, the Federal Government owed N20.42trn while the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory debt portfolio stood at N5.28trn. The debt stock is made up of N8.32trn ($27.16bn) external debt and N17.38trn borrowed domestically.

Stop blackmailing me - Adams Oshiomhole warns Governor Obaseki






Adams Oshiomhole, the National Chairman, All Progressives Congress (APC) has warned Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State to stop blackmailing him and rather focus on delivery of good governance to the people.  
 
This was contained in a statement signed by Oshiohmole’s Chief Press Secretary, Simon Ebegbulem, in Abuja on Tuesday, October 15th. 
 
The National Chairman of the ruling party insisted that he was attacked at his residence in Benin on October 12 but Obaseki in a statement issued in Abuja by his Special Adviser on Media, Crusoe Osagie, said that Oshiomhole was never attacked in the state.
Oshiomhole said:

Quote:“We have it on good authority that the governor (Obaseki) intends to create disaffection and crisis in the state, APC and probably dump the party for another party. That is why, he has embarked on this blackmail which Edo people will resist.
So, he should stop blackmailing me and face governance which is why Edo people voted him into power. We are even more scared now that the governor is making every effort to coerce me into giving him details of my movement in Edo State. Who knows what he is plotting again. But every evil plot against me will fail.”

Again Ambode ignores Lagos Assembly, fails to appear before committee






Akinwunmi Ambode, the immediate past governor of Lagos state, today October 15th, failed again to appear before the House of Assembly ad-hoc Committee probing the activities of his administration, especially the purchase of 820 buses for mass transit.
 
Recall that last week, the state Assembly threatened to issue a warrant of arrest for Ambode if he continues to ignore the invitation to appear before its committee for questioning.
 
When the matter was brought before the house today, the chairman of the investigation committee, Fatai Mojeed, told lawmakers that the immediate past Commissioners for Finance, Akinyemi Ashade and Special duties Oladejo Seye, who served under Ambode, had written to the committee notifying them of their absences as they were currently out of the country. Mojeed told his colleague that Ambode once again shunned the committee.
 
The Nation reports that the Speaker, Mudasiru Obasa, while reacting to the development, said the house will send Ambode’s invitation publicly through newspaper publications and that if he fails to appear again, then a warrant for his arrest will be issued immediately.
 
In the meantime, some of the former commissioners in Ambode's tenure have told the committee that quite a lot of contracts and even major procurements made by the Ambode administration did not follow due process. The former Commissioners claimed that the former Governor carried out major activities without their knowledge.
 
Former Commissioner for Economic Planning and Budget, Olusegun Banjo, revealed that the purchase of the 820 buses by Ambode “was not rooted through its ministry.” Banjo, who stated that he became commissioner in February 2018, said he followed the system he met on ground, which according to him was responsible for shady transactions on the buses that were procured.

1,111 irregular migrants refused entry into the country in 2 months - FG






About 1,111 irregular migrants have been refused entry into the country in the last two months following the joint border operations by the Nigeria Immigration Service and the Nigeria Customs Service. 
 
The Comptroller General of Immigration Mohammed Babandede, who disclosed this in a joint briefing in Abuja said 728 migrants have also been removed from the country since August 20 when the operation began. 
 

Quote:He said: “Before this operation, people enter into the country in and out. But this operation has enhanced the ECOWAS rule on entry and exit of persons.

“We have refused entry for 1,111 people who do not have the right travel documents to enter Nigeria. Among the 147 people we have arrested, many are not even citizens of ECOWAS states.

“We have arrested Pakistanis and North Koreans; we have deported seven and processing deportation of the others. 728 who have entered into the country have been removed,” he explained.

Over 48 Nigerian doctors have been kidnapped in the last two years - NMA president






President of the Nigeria Medical Association (NMA), Adedayo Faduyile has expressed concern over increasing rate of insecurity in the country.
 
At a press conference to mark the 2019 World Physicians’ week in Akure, Ondo state, on Tuesday, October 15th he said more than 48 medical doctors had been kidnapped in the last two years.  
 
He said despite the hazardous nature of their jobs, doctors in the country were still facing challenges like “kidnapping, incessant harassment/assault by patients and their relations, unfortunate maltreatment by employers and poor salaries”.
 
Faduyile said this has contributed to many of them leaving the country.

Quote:“The Nigerian doctors decided to celebrate this year with the theme based on the identified lacuna in the care of this category of patients especially in respect of police framework. In the last one year, Nigerian doctors have had significant input in the improvement of the health of the Nation.  
“In this regard, I appreciate all physicians who have been working assiduously in ensuring that we collectively fulfill our key responsibilities to the Nigerian state. It is worthy of note that all have not been well with Nigerian doctors, the kidnapping of our members in the course of discharging their duties to the Nigerian state with some still in captivity.  
“Despite the various challenges, Nigerian physicians have continued to render desirable health care services, and we thank God for another year.  “I want to state that it is important to continue to strive to improve ourselves for the betterment of the Nigerian populace.”

Budget2020 scales through second reading a the senate






The 2020 Appropriation Bill submitted to the National Assembly last week by President Buhari has scaled second reading on the floor of the Senate.
 
The upper chamber has subsequently adjourned plenary till 29th November 2019, to enable Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) of government defend their respective budget proposals before the Committees of the Senate.
 
In his concluding remark during the last day of debate on the 2020 budget estimates, the Senate President, Ahmad Lawan, identified revenue generation as a major challenge of the budget. According to him, the successful implementation of the budget may be difficult to realise until proactive measures are taken to address the situation.

Quote:He said: “We are seriously challenged in the area of generating revenues, and it appears that until something drastic is done, this shortage of revenue will continue to militate against the implementation of the budget.
“We have to continuously engage the revenue-generating agencies and schedule quarterly evaluation to be handled by our relevant committee, particularly the Senate Committee on Finance. We need to look at how we can enhance the capital allocation. The shortage of funds will militate against that.
“We have a serious challenge when only thirty per cent is devoted to the capital budget, but that is an improvement from what we inherited from 2014 when the allocation was fifteen per cent. But that is not to say we cannot do better.

Government can't provide adequate healthcare for Nigerians - Osinbajo






Vice President Yemi Osinbajo on Monday October 14, stated that government can't provide adequate healthcare for all Nigerians. 
 
The Vice President who was represented at the national health dialogue organised by Premium Times in Abuja by his Chief Physician Nicolas Audiferren, said the best option for the nation will be an effective national health insurance scheme.

Nigeria’s contributory pension industry has accumulated assets worth over N9.4 trillion as at August 2019. This was disclosed by the Acting Director-General of the National Pension Commission (PenCom), Aisha Dahir-Umar, at the 7th Conference for directors of pension operators held In Abuja yesterday. The latest growth recorded in pension assets translates a growth of N700 billion in seven months from the N8.74 trillion recorded in January 2015 to N9.4 trillion as at August.

“The pension industry in Nigeria is leading the initiative for the attainment of one of our critical national imperative for socio-economic development, which is the formation of long term domestic capital. These pension assets are overwhelmingly invested in the national economy, with positive impact in all major sectors and a significant contribution to the GDP,” Dahir-Umar told the directors. The PenCom boss called the attention of the directors to the clamour for deployment of pension funds to support several new initiatives in both the public and private sectors. She said such clamours were inappropriately pursued by proponents as the Pension Reform Act 2014 only empowers PenCom to issue regulations on investment of pension funds and assets to guide the investment activities of the licensed operators.

“The law does not allow the regulator to approve any specific instrument for mandatory investment by operators. Regrettably, the Commission is increasingly being inundated with requests for clearance of several business proposals to enable Pension Fund Administrators finance the initiatives with pension fund,” she said.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has asked the National Assembly to sanitize the Presidential Villa by probing allegations of illegal allotment of offices and apartments to unauthorised persons, “including scammers and corruption fronts” in Aso Rock. The party, in a statement yesterday by its National Publicity Secretary Kola Ologbondiyan, specifically demanded the National Assembly to investigate the alleged abuse of office by President Muhammadu Buhari and apply appropriate sanctions following the alleged revelation that he assigned official facilities in the villa to unauthorized persons that have no official roles in governance.

The party described what it termed the dirty public fight between the First Lady, Aisha Buhari and President Buhari’s cousins, over rooms in the villa as disgraceful. It said the feud uncovered the alleged impunity, disorderliness and vanity that pervaded the presidency, adding that the presidential villa had been turned into a house of comedy and an overcrowded quarters for illegal occupants. “Nigerians can now see why it has become difficult for our nation to witness any stability or progress under the Buhari Presidency and why the Buhari-led federal government has been bedevilled by confusion, infighting, policy flip-flops, statutory violations, promotion of violence, ingrained corruption and administrative indolence while millions of Nigerians wallow in poverty and neglect,” the PDP said.

Nigeria losing N1tn annually to bad roads’

Nigeria is losing over N1tn annually as a result of bad roads across the country, the Senate has said.

The Federal Roads Maintenance Agency also put the cost in man-hours loss due to bad roads and traffic delays at N1.02tn per annum.

Speaking on the sidelines of a stakeholders’ forum on road maintenance and reforms organised by FERMA in Abuja, the Senate Committee Chairman for the agency, Senator Gershom Bassey, said findings by experts submitted to the Senate showed that Nigeria was losing the amount to bad roads.

He said, “We lose over N1tn every year as a result of bad roads.”

He also stated that the enforcement of stipulated laws would help address the challenge of road maintenance.

Bassey said, “I think the first thing is to obey the law. Clearly, there is a FERMA Act and the key issue in road maintenance is funding. This issue was addressed in 2008 in the amendment of the FERMA Act, which provided for additional sources of funding for road maintenance.

“But the problem we have now is that that law has not been obeyed by the Petroleum Products Pricing Regulatory Agency, as it is supposed to ensure that a portion of the tax on petrol and diesel is credited to FERMA for the maintenance of roads.”

On his part, the Chairman of the Governing Board of FERMA, Tunde Lemo, said funding for Nigerian roads was less than one per cent of the country’s Gross Domestic Product, adding that this was far less than the three per cent of the GDP recommended by the World Bank as a minimum spending threshold.


He said, “The cost of loss in man-hours due to bad roads and traffic delays is N1.02tn per annum. Burden of inaction has been computed to be N85 for every N1 not spent in good time to maintain the Nigerian roads as of 2018. These numbers are staggering and this calls for immediate action.

He stated that over 80 per cent of travels in Nigeria were carried out on the road, with about 90 per cent of that being largely federal interstate roads.

Lemo added, “With only about 10,0000km of federal roads in ‘good’ state and about 13,300km and 11,600km in fair and bad state, respectively, it isn’t difficult to understand why road density in Nigeria is a paltry 0.21km/sq.km2.”

Boko Haram has killed 847 soldiers in Borno - Senator Ali Ndume






Senator Ali Ndume, Chairman of the senate committee on Army has revealed that Boko Haram has killed 847 soldiers in Borno state since they kicked off their attack in 2013. 
 
The lawmaker who disclosed this while addressing newsmen after a trip to Borno state, said the quoted figure does not include soldiers killed and buried by the insurgents. 
 
He further revealed that soldiers who lost their lives in the fight against insurgency were buried in the military cemetery located in Maiduguri.
 
Also disclosing that the number of soldiers fighting Boko Haram terrorists is not enough, Ndume added that the senate committee he heads is currently investigating allegations that some non-governmental organisations were working with Boko Haram.

Nigerian lady narrates how she was allegedly beaten and raped by her childhood friend who promised to teach her Forex trading if she visits






A Facebook user has narrated a horrific tale of how she was allegedly held hostage, beaten, and raped by her childhood friend who she went to visit in Ghana after he promised to teach her Forex trading.
 
Clement Vanessa Ogechi said she knew Emusi Clinton from secondary school, where she was the head girl.
 
They graduated in 2014 and lost contact until they recently reconnected on Facebook.

Ogechi said Clinton told her he is into Forex trading and promised to teach her how to make money by being a forex trader if she could visit him in Ghana where he is now based.
 
She said before she left Abuja for Ghana earlier this month, she made him promise he will not ask for sex or anything other than the business that took her to Ghana and he promised.
 
According to Ogechi, on getting there on October 7, 2019, she found out he's into online fraud and runs a house where young boys are made to work from morning till night on their laptops with the aim of defrauding innocent people online.
 
She said he told her that she must work to get him a client before he will give her transport fare to return to Nigeria. 
 
He allegedly locked her in the house and only let her sleep from 12 midnight till 4am, after which she'll wake up and start working on a laptop. 
 
She also accused him of beating her and raping her twice. She showed photos of her injuries. 
 
She said she eventually escaped early in the morning, on October 11, while everyone was still asleep, and she ran to a police station in Ghana. According to Ogechi, Clinton and his accomplices were eventually arrested and she was able to return to Abuja on Sunday, October 13, at about 3 pm.
 
She said she's sharing her story to warn young girls about being too trusting.

I used to know a guy named EMUSI CLINTON, who now goes by the name ‘Successful OG’ We were classmates in secondary school from 2011-2014. Although we weren’t friends, but he was friends with my friends. Then From 2013/2014, I was made the head girl of the school. People like Mimi Jacobs Joy Stanley and Okwuwe Onyinye can attest to this. So because of this reason, he started talking to me more often. We spent most of our Teenage years in Agbor, Delta state where I grew up. We never dated, never had any sexual activity of any sort. Just a Hello hello kind of friends. After graduation, everybody went their separate ways…
 
So a few months ago, he reconnected with me on Facebook. I couldn’t even recognize him again until I went through his old photos. We exchanged pleasantries. I asked him what he does for a living, he told me he was into an online trading. So I told him I was interested in learning FOREX trading. He said he could teach me but he is not close. And that it’s not something he’ll be explaining to me on the phone. That he now base in Ghana. That if I can find my way to Ghana, his base, he promise he can help me with it.
 
I told him to give me some time to run around to see if I can get some money from a few friends to complete my T.P. Trust me I didn’t get any help from any friend. Maybe this was Gods own way of asking me not to go, but I didn’t listen. I told him I didn’t get help from anywhere. So he told me to find my way to Lagos, that if I can get to Lagos, he will pay from Lagos to Ghana. I got ready and traveled from Abuja to Lagos on 5/10/2019. To cut the story short, I got to Ghana the next day. I started calling him when I got there, but he didn’t pick my call again. I stayed in the park so late that the people there started talking shits like ‘she’s a prostitute, ‘she came to see a Facebook friend’, ‘she’s an abandoned runsgirl’. I was so ashamed of myself that day. I slept in that park till the next morning. He called me by 5am and started apologizing, that he was sleeping. I was just so perplexed that I didn’t even know what to say to him. I got to his house on 7/10/19. This was the last time I saw outside the house or it looked like from outside. Before I left Abuja, I made sure we had a mutual agreement like he wouldn’t ask me for anything other than the reason that made me leave. And i accepted to embark on this journey because I thought I knew him based on the fact that we were old secondary school buddies.
 
I got to his house that very day and the story changed. He said my Transportation back to Abuja depends on what I can do using the laptop. That if I can’t make clients pay, that means I am stocked with him. This was the day my doom began. I met three other guys in the house. All of them were working under him. He said I’ll sleep 12am and wake up by 4am, same with the other guys. We do this every day. I fell ill the second day. The same routine every day. I chatted him the 4th day and told him I wanted to go back that I couldn’t continue.
 
He said he already told me that my T.P depended on the clients. He even said he didn’t want me to be pressing laptop anymore, that I should move to his room. I should pretend to be his girlfriend while we engage in a sexual relationship. I told him I can’t do that. I begged him to send me back that I’ll send him back the T.P he paid both to and fro when I get back home. He refused and kept quiet.
 
On thé 10/10/19 around 1:am midnight, he woke me up and asked me to leave his house. He pushed me out of his house, collected my phone and locked his gate. I couldn’t believe my eyes. I even thought I was dreaming. I pinched myself to make sure what was happening wasn’t true. I just realized it was true.
 
So I stayed outside for 30mins. He later opened the gate. He pretended to be sorry. Started apologizing to me. I followed him back inside again. immediately we got into the room, started pounding me. I was just begging the ground to swallow me. I prayed to die than let him touch me. Unfortunately my prayer wasn’t answered. I ended up being raped. He was raping and beating me at the same time till he spilt his disgusting fluid on me. I cried myself till the next day morning.
 
The next day, been the 11/10/19, he repeated what he did to me the other day again. This time it was 2:13am. The other guys were just quiet in their room. This time he made sure he raped me till I stopped talking. He beat me till the left side of my face got swollen. You can see the bruises on my lips, that’s because he hit my mouth. I prayed for death, I didn’t see it
 
As early as 5:am, I woke up. Seems the other guys didn’t work that day because they were busy sleeping. I opened the door. I looked for a means to leave the compound. God did it, I was able to jump out of the house. Immediately I saw a man taking his child to school, I pleaded with him to give me a lift. He directed me to the nearest police station. I reported to Ghana police station in the area. So took some police men to the house. They got him arrested and the other guys. The police officers asked me if I wanted to make a case. I refused because that would have delayed my return. I didn’t want to waste any more time. I just asked them to tell him to give me my T.P. They released the other guys because they were innocent. I took my T.P from the police men and left while they still negotiating how much he will pay to be released. I left that same day. I got back to Abuja yesterday around 3pm
 
Guys this is a true story of what happened to me live. This one is not audio. I am not sharing this to draw any attention of any sort, I am sharing this story so you can learn from it. If you don’t have a family, and you know you can’t take care of yourself when the worse happens, don’t embark on that trip. Don’t think you know him since child hood will save you. Troops of Operation Thunder Strike have rescued the four remaining students of Government Day Secondary School Gwagwada, #KadunaState, who were abducted on their way to school on Oct. 10.

According the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the students have been handed over to their joyful parents. .

However, the quick intervention of troops led to the immediate rescue of six out of the 10 students while the bandits escaped into the forest with the four. .

However, on Monday, October 14, at about 6 am, following a tip-off from a reliable source, troops raided the hideout of the bandits and successfully rescued the remaining 4 students.

During the rescue operation, the bandits ran into the bush with gunshot wounds while abandoning the students after they had engaged the troops in a gun duel.
