"On Thursday, Jan. 9, while conducting routine operations in the North Arabian Sea, USS Farragut was aggressively approached by a Russian Navy ship," the US Navy's Fifth Fleet, which oversees naval operations in the Middle East, said in a statement.

A US Navy official says that the Farragut is part of the USS Harry S. Truman aircraft carrier group and the Farragut is tasked with intercepting potential enemy ships to prevent them from approaching the aircraft carrier.

Two defense officials said the Russian vessel got as close as 180 feet from the US ship and that there was bridge to bridge communication between the two warships.

A teenage girl who was addicted to social media ended her life after she failed to get enough “likes” on her photos.

Chloe Davison, 19, was an aspiring model who relied on social media to feel good about herself, according to her older sister Jade.

“She thought she wasn’t good enough unless she was getting loads of likes and comments,” her 20-year-old sister said.

The selfie-loving teen hanged herself in her bedroom moments after she had been active on social media.

After the girl started using social media several year ago, “all she would talk about was how many likes she got,” her mum Clair Reynolds, 44, said.

“She was addicted to apps like Instagram and Snapchat,” said family friend Nick Coombs, 55, who had known Chloe since she was young.

“She would spend hours taking the perfect photo, but would delete it later if it didn’t get popular enough,” Coombs added.

Chloe struggled socially at school and rarely went out with friends, instead staying indoors and taking pictures of herself for social media.

The pretty 19-year-old was often targeted by online trolls who would send her nasty messages and mocked her appearance.

“Chloe was crying many nights because someone had said something horrible about her online,” her older sister Jade Davison told the news.

On Friday night, Chloe’s mum and sister returned home from a bar around 11:30pm, and found the teenager hanging in her bedroom.

Chloe had been taking selfies moments before she killed herself, according to Nick Coombs, 55, who was at the house when the brunette was found dead.

“When we took her body down, her hair and makeup were still perfect,” Coombs said. “She was wearing some new lingerie that she’d been excited to model.”

The girl’s mum, Clair Reynolds, said she blamed social media for what happened. “Social media took over Chloe’s life, whether that be Snapchat or Facebook.”

She added: “Chloe was beautiful, but she didn’t see that. She cared too much about how other people saw her.”

Coombs said that too many people felt they could say whatever they wanted to the attractive teen because it wasn't face-to-face.

“She’d get hundreds of messages each day, mostly men asking her for sexual stuff,” Coombs said. “Sometimes they were nice, but other times they told Chloe they wanted to hurt her.”

Both adults agreed that the girl had low self-esteem and relied on social media for reassurance.

The 19-year-old had thousands of social media followers when she killed herself.

President Muhammadu Buhari has revealed why he decided to become to join partisan politics after release from prison.

Speaking when he received the youths leaders of the All Progressives Congress, APC, who came from across the country to pay him a visit in Abuja, Buhari said he took interest in politics after a clean bill on his integrity by those who detained him after the 1985 military coup and who thoroughly checked his record as governor of the North East, Minister of Petroleum and Head of State and found nothing incriminating.

“After I was released and nothing was found on me I took interest in politics. This is what pushed me into partisan politics; to serve with integrity. So I decided to try leadership as a civilian, after taking off the military uniform,’’ he added.

Speaking on his second tenure, the President assured that he would be more firm, focused and relentless in delivering results, especially in securing the country, stimulating the economy to work for all, and fighting corruption.

“I am currently serving my last term in office. I swore by the constitution to defend the country, and I will do the needful for the country,’’ President Buhari said.

In his remarks, National Youth Leader of the APC, Comrade Sadiq Shuaibu Abubakar, congratulated the President for winning the Presidential elections in 2019, assuring him that the youths will continue to support his policies and vision of greatness for the country.

A woman has been arrested for scalding her niece with hot water in Ajaokuta, Kogi state.
 
The victim was living with her mother's younger sister and the woman's husband. Unfortunately, though the woman is her aunty, this didn't save her from being abused by her.
 
Facebook users expressed outrage after photos of the victim's scalded body was shared online.

Neighbours of teenage girl who died accuse her parents of allegedly beating her to death because she had a baby for a Yoruba Muslim boy






The parents of an 18-year-old girl identified as Amaka Nweke have been accused of allegedly beating their daughter to death for allegedly dating a Yoruba boy by residents of Agility community at Mile 12 area of Lagos State,
 
Amaka was also allegedly tortured and starved by her parents who were enraged that she got impregnated not just by a Yoruba boy but also a Muslim. 
 
The girl's father, Mike Nweke who denied putting his daughter through such horrendous act repeatedly said “Is it possible for a parent to kill his own child?” when questioned by newsmen. He was also accused of confronting residents of the community who were vocal about the brutal torture he and his wife allegedly subjected their daughter to. 
 
Before her death, Amaka reportedly welcomed a baby boy christened Zaeed, fathered by one Ibrahim Lawal she started dating when she was in Senior Secondary School (SSS).
 
Recounting the torture the deceased was subjected to, one of the Nwekes’ neighbours identified simply as Adebola, said; 
 

Quote:“Amaka went through a lot. She really suffered. When Amaka and Ibrahim were dating, her parents were always threatening her. They told her that they didn’t want her to continue associating with the boy. What broke the camel’s back was Amaka becoming pregnant for Ibrahim. Her parents were livid and starved her of food.
“Whenever her parents were beating her, some of us would approach and beg them to stop. They used to beat her with different objects even while she was pregnant. Whenever her boyfriend brought food to her, they would not allow her to have access to it.
"When Amaka was delivered of her baby, her parents couldn’t afford the medical bill. They had to call on Ibrahim’s family. His family gladly paid up before the new mother was discharged from the hospital.
“After she was released from the hospital, her parents tried to prevent the husband’s family from naming their grandchild. But it took the intervention of the Chairman of the Community Development Association (CDA) and some elders in the area before the Nwekes released the baby to them.”

Quote:“When my son impregnated Amaka, I didn’t reject the pregnancy. I was already used to seeing them together. When it was clear to me that Ibrahim was the owner of the pregnancy, I started taking care of the girl as my daughter-in-law. I, however, noticed that whenever I go to give her foodstuff, her mother wouldn’t want her to collect it from me. I used to force her before she would collect it.
"When Amaka was in labour, her parents didn’t inform us. It was Ibrahim who saw her mother take her to hospital and alerted us. I couldn’t go to the hospital that fateful day, but the following day, Ibrahim went to the hospital to check on her and found she was delivered successfully.
“When it was time for mother and child to be discharged from the hospital, Amaka’s parents couldn’t afford the medical bill. They sent for us and we later paid the money. The parents took Amaka and the baby to their house, instead of the father’s house.

Quote:“We went to Amaka’s house as early as 6a.m. We begged them till noon before they finally released the baby to us with the assistance of some elders in the community.
“The parents also gave us two hours to return the baby. Two weeks after the naming ceremony, my husband and I went back to Amaka’s parents’ house to check on our grandchild, but Mrs. Nweke prevented us from seeing the baby and Amaka.
“When the pressure from her parents to stop seeing Ibrahim was becoming too much, Amaka told Ibrahim to stop coming. She said that they would be discussing on the phone. She told him that whenever he comes to visit her, her parents would pounce on her and beat her mercilessly. Mrs. Nweke didn’t like Amaka’s union with my son.
“The major issue that led to Amaka’ death started on January 1, 2020.  This was after she came to our house to collect clothes for herself and the baby, to celebrate the Yuletide. A few minutes after she left our house, she called Ibrahim on the phone that her mother had started beating her for collecting the clothes and money from us. I was informed that her parents collected the baby from her and locked her in their apartment and beat her for two days.
“It was in the process of beating her that she became unconscious. The parents rushed her to hospital in the neighbourhood and they were referred to Gbagada General Hospital, where she was confirmed dead on Sunday. When Ibrahim went to check her at the hospital, she couldn’t stand up or sit. She just lied on the bed. The most annoying aspect of it was that when they were rushing Amaka to hospital, they gave our four-months-old grandson to a neighbour, instead of bringing him to us to mind.
 “When we went to collect the baby from the woman they gave him to, she refused to release him to us. But out of pressure, she eventually released him. I’ll miss Amaka; she was an easy going girl. I accepted her as my son’s wife because of her attitude. It was her parents that killed her.”

“When I didn’t see Amaka for some days, I became worried. I chatted with her up on Facebook, and she told me that she was sick due to the series of beatings she received from her parents. She told me that Ibrahim was bringing money to her to buy drugs. When I couldn’t bear it again, I went to see her. When I saw her, I noticed that her breathing was difficult and terrible. The news was about her starring role in Citation. In a statement made available to the media months back, Cape Verde’s Culture and Creative Industries Minister, Abrãao Vicente, who led the government team that included the Director-General of Arts and Creative Industries, Adilson Lima Gomes and the Coordinator of Cultural Goods and Music, Luhena Correia, in negotiating the deal, was quoted as saying that she believes that the collaboration will enhance a good relationship between Cape Verde and Nollywood.

Amotekun: Don’t betray South-West, Ooni tells personnel

The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, has called on personnel of the Western Nigeria Security Network known as ‘Operation Amotekun’ not to betray the region on the ideals behind setting up the security outfit.

Ogunwusi stated this on Thursday in Ibadan during the launch of Amotekun by the governors of the South-West region.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that Amotekun was evolved by the governors in the South-West region to complement the efforts of the Nigeria Police in tackling security challenges in the region.

The Ooni said that the governors in the region had done their best, adding that it was left for the personnel and the residents of the region to work together for the success of the security outfit.

“All the traditional rulers are in support, the Federal Government is not opposed to it, let all and sundry support it for peace to reign in the region.

“The success of this security outfit will be of benefit to the present generation and generations yet unborn,”he said.

The leader of the Yoruba World Congress, Prof. Banji Akintoye, said that the governors and the people of the region had risen up to the security challenge in the region.

“The people that will work in Amotekun are going to be trained properly by highly educated people for them to relate properly with the police and the army,” he said.

The National Public Relations Officer, Vigilante Group of Nigeria, Prof. Nelson Fashina, said that his personnel were properly qualified for the security outfit.

Fashina said that the group was capable of taking up the responsibilities of community policing as members were conversant with the terrain.

The governors present at the occasion were Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu of Ondo and Seyi Makinde of Oyo while Osun and Ogun were represented by their deputies.

Nigerian man allegedly kills his father over cooked yam in Ebonyi






The Ebonyi State Police Command has arrested a man identified as Chibueze Iduma, for allegedly killing his father during a quarrel over cooked yam. 
 
The deceased, Mr Emmanuel Oba Iduma was allegedly killed by his son who got infuriated upon returning home and seeing that his dad ate a yam he cooked for himself. 
 
An eyewitness told newsmen; 
 

Quote: “While they quarrelled over the cooked yam, the father had hit the son with his walking stick, and in retaliation, the son hit him back, he then fell down and died.”

Quote: “That you Chibueze Iduma ‘m’, on the 20th day of December, 2019, at Amaefia Ngbo village, in the Ohaukwu Local Government Area, under the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court, did unlawfully cause the death of one Emmanuel Oba Iduma ‘m’, by hitting him with walking stick and thereby committed an offense punishable under section 319 (1) of the Criminal Code Cap. 33, Vol. 1, Laws of Ebonyi State of Nigeria, 2009.”

Man who had sex with dog before killing it, arrested after used condoms were found at the scene






Boniface Mutuku Munyao, a middle-aged man from Kangundo in Machakos County of Kenya was arraigned before a Kangundo Magistrate’s Court  on Thursday January 9, for allegedly engaging in bestiality with a female dog before killing it.
 
The suspect's last sexual act on the dog was on Wednesday January 8, after which he strangled the animal with a rope. He was reportedly arrested after neighbours made a complaint of hearing the dog yelping at night.
 

 
It was gathered that Munyao's neighbours broke into his house after a foul smell emanated from the building on Thursday January 9. A neighbour told the police;

Quote:Lekoil, the oil and gas exploration and production company with a focus on Nigeria and West Africa, has announced that it has secured $184 million funding for the appraisal drilling and initial development programme activities on the Ogo field within OPL 310.

The company stated that in securing the agreement, it has entered into a binding loan agreement with the Qatar Investment Authority, the sovereign wealth fund of the State of Qatar for $184 million.

According to the company, the facility will be disbursed in five tranches over 11 months, with the first drawdown intended to occur in February 2020.

‘‘The tranching of the drawdown of funds under the terms of the facility is expected to enable Lekoil to meet the costs commitments under the envisioned work programme as and when they arise.

The facility, which has a tenure of seven years from the date of first disbursement, is secured against, amongst other things, the shares and assets of Lekoil 310 Limited (“Lekoil 310”) and Mayfair Assets and Trust Limited (“Mayfair”) and includes a moratorium on both the interest and principal repayments commencing from the date of the facility until six months after the commencement of commercial sale of production from the field.

Repayment of the principal and interest will occur subsequently in equal installments, on a semi-annual basis. Lekoil holds its interest in OPL 310 through Mayfair and Lekoil 310. The company disclosed that annual interest rate payable on amounts drawn under the facility is 3.72 per cent with an upfront fee of 2.75 per cent of the amount drawn under the facility which is payable upon drawdown of the facility.

Lekoil noted that Debt Service Reserve Account will be established twelve months after the end of the moratorium period with a one-off amount equal to six months of debt service standing to its credit.

The company said it will be required to meet a number of covenants on an ongoing basis in order for the facility to remain in good standing, and adhere to QIA’s policies on procurement, environment and social responsibility and anti-corruption.

‘‘The facility is subject to event of default clauses, and a provision that the employment of the company’s CEO cannot be terminated without good cause during the term of the facility.

Nigeria Air… another year without the national carrier


Despite another year without any of the much-mouthed national carrier, airport concession, aircraft leasing company, and maintenance facility, aviation stakeholders are upbeat about potential growth in the New Year. WOLE OYEBADE writes.

The disappointments of 2019 were indeed glaring. But the marginal growth in the air transport business was fairly comforting and reassures a better 2020 – if the decision-makers are willing.

While many still await the aviation development masterplan to materialise in its fourth year on the table, there are low hanging fruits to explore for additional growth ahead of the grandiose agenda of holistic sectoral development as promised by the Buhari’s administration five years ago.

Specifically, stakeholders are seeking clear-cut policies to support investments through enabling environment, strategic incentives and modalities, continuous commitment to upgrade and improvement of safety critical infrastructure and other palliative measures across the board. These, among others, will not only fill the void of waiting for transformation, but also consolidate on marginal gains amid the letdown of 2019.


Safety first

One of the priceless gains of 2019 is the zero-crash recorded in commercial operations. The industry, to date, has the enviable record of four-year operations without a major accident.


Comparatively, it was a good year for local aviation given general concerns about safer skies as led by the Boeing 737 Max disastrous episode early in the year. The second plane crash in Ethiopia claimed two Nigerians – Prof. Pius Adesanmi and Amb. Bashua – with 155 others, and has since thrown the entire Max model and Boeing Corporation into disarray.

Besides, the local aviation industry with an upswing in flight services recorded more nervy moments onboard the airplanes of Air Peace, Arik Air, Max Air, Med-View Airlines PLC, among others. It was the year of attempted runway invasions as well. However, none resulted in casualty, much to the credit of the operators, service providers and their regulators.

A particular standout regulatory performer is the Accident Investigation Bureau (AIB). It will be recalled that the bureau, since January 2017, has deepen efficiency leading to the release of 26 final reports, 93 recommendations and four Safety bulletins to date.

Relatively, the output was far better than the bureau had done since it was established in 2007. The AIB Commissioner, Akin Olateru, often said that the renewed commitment was part of efforts to clear the backlog of pending accident investigation reports and have attendant recommendations implemented to further enhanced safety in the industry.



Marginal growth in airlines’ fortunes, operations


But for the operational misfortunes of Med-View Airlines PLC, the local airlines showed stability in operations. Med-View in the last four months has stopped commercial operations, while the eight airlines, including the new entrant, Ibom Air, are showing growth potential across their niche markets.

With a boost in capacity via aircraft acquisition, airlines like Dana Air, Arik Air, Aero Contractors, Max Air, and Ibom Air have expanded operations into erstwhile unviable routes for improved connectivity across the country.

Air Peace airlines, with about 40 per cent stake in local aviation, showed more strength with newer investments in fleet acquisition and expanded route network.

Recall that the airline some months ago set a continental record with a firm order for 10 brand new Embraer 195-E2 aircraft. The deal makes Air Peace the first to order the brand of jets in Africa. The order comprises purchase rights for another 20 E195-E2 jets. With all purchase rights exercised, the contract was valued at N646.6 billion.
However, money laundry allegations by the United States authorities against the Air Peace Chairman and his employee has lately taken the wind out of the airline’s sail. The accused have vowed to prove their innocence in the New Year.

Over 10 per cent growth in traffic, sales


Though the facts are still sketchy, there are indications of an upsurge in passenger traffic and attendant sales revenue in 2019. The Minister of Aviation, Hadi Sirika, earlier said no fewer than 18 million passengers now travel through the Nigerian airspace in a year. The surge, compared with the 2017 figures, represents about 11 per cent increase in passenger traffic.

The marginal growth trend continued in the first quarter (Q1) of 2019, with no fewer than 3.5 million passengers travelling through the airports. The Q1 report released by the Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), showed an increase of 76,397 passengers and 2.23 per cent growth compared to the 3.43 million passengers recorded in the first quarter of 2018.

Sirika, at a meeting with stakeholders in Lagos, said the industry recorded marginal growth of 33 per cent rise in local passenger traffic and 11 per cent in international travels.

President of the National Association of Nigerian Travel Agencies (NANTA), Bernard Bankole, confirmed that the sector had grown by a minimum of 10 per cent in revenue size, especially in the area of international travel.
Bankole said given the peculiarity of the Nigerian environment, “it will be difficult for the Federal Government to measure the Foreign Direct Investment (FDI), but evidence abounds that a lot of foreign investors are coming into the sector for good businesses.”

“The industry has grown by about 10 per cent. There are African airlines that derive more than 60 per cent of their market from Nigeria. They cannot fully disclose their gains here for obvious reasons. There is stability in the system and the currency is also stable. With better policy to drive enabling environment, the sector can contribute more to the economy,” Bankole said.


Lull over Nigeria Air

Unconscionable flop of the 2019 has to be the Minister and his national carrier plan. For reasons best known to Sirika, a lull has engulfed the much-anticipated plans to set up a national carrier in his second-coming.

Granted that the first-half of a re-election year naturally goes to politics around here, stakeholders are disappointed that the second half since Sirika was sworn-in has delivered nothing of significance to aviation.

The disappointment was far-reaching among many that had expected his aviation background to be an asset, as the first square peg to occupy the office. More so, he is the longest serving aviation minister with enormous goodwill from all and sundry in a rather combative sector.

“It is more painful to see other African countries reviving national carriers for real, more than a year after we launched ours on a projector at the London airshow. An airline is not a rocket science and Sirika should know better. In 2018, the issue was non-budgetary provision. What of 2019? There is more the minister should do for our sector than just sit at the cabinet as one of the untouchable president’s men,” a stakeholder said.


2020 of new hope, expectations

The disappointment notwithstanding, experts are unrelenting in their call for a national carrier, among others the minister had promised.

Aviation Security consultant, Group Capt. John Ojikutu (rtd) said the carrier was imperative to effectively compete with foreign airlines on the continental and the intercontinental routes.


But in the interim and to grow the local sector, Ojikutu advised that in the place of multiple destinations each of the foreign airlines should be restricted to either Lagos or Abuja, and anyone or two from alternate regions to the airport of the first choice.

“These arrangements will create a market for domestic airlines. The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) must upgrade the dormant and not too active airports for night flights to improve the domestic airline’s markets and earnings.

“Also, they should grade the airports into four categories where the grade one (Lagos and Abuja) would charge higher service fees than grade B, and B higher than C, and D may charge no fees to encourage patronage. Airport concession is a global practice and we must do it only with the nonaeronautical facilities like the passenger terminal and cargo buildings, aircraft parking areas, carparks, toll gates, operators or tenants restricted used areas, and so on.

“The aeronautical, which includes the runways, taxiways, and associated lightings should remain with FAAN so as to maintain the national obligations to the intercontinental safety standards as FAAN becomes a holding company.

“Domestic airlines should plan to operate to all the airports, if facilities are improved for night flying and services fees are reduced. The Aviation Security should be excised from FAAN and made autonomously. To be able to conform sufficiently with Chapter one of ICAO Annex 17, ensure that single command and control is established from the autonomous agency for all government security agencies working in the airports. That is what the USA TSA at all airports is about,” Ojikutu said.

Member of the Aviation Safety Round Table Initiative (ASRTI), a think tank group of the sector, Olumide Ohunayo, agreed that the government must begin to give safety critical infrastructure the attention it demands, to complement and sustain renewed commitment of the airlines.

They just need to concentrate on these safety and security requirements, and leave the airlines to the operations. That way, the industry will show progress and live up to its potential.

“I am not an advocate of government giving airlines bailout again, but having the infrastructure in place and the enabling environment. Government can also help with the availability of aviation fuel, if they can bring down the cost to improve services of the local airlines,” he said.

‘Urgent, holistic legal reform needed in Nigeria’s oil, gas sector’






A Professor of Law and Director, Institute for Oil, Gas, Energy, Environment and Sustainable Development (OGEES Institute), Afe Babalola University, Ado Ekiti, Damilola Olawuyi has said most of the legal framework in the nation’s oil and gas sector require urgent and holistic reform to enable the sector to deliver maximum benefits.
Making reference to the Pipelines Act, which remained without review for over 60 years, Olawuyi told The Guardian the development exemplifies the need for the reform process to bring several of the nation’s archaic laws in the industry in line with current realities and international best practices.

The Guardian had for instance, reported that about 63 years after the Oil Pipelines Act came into force, the country charges a meagre N50 for licences to operate pipeline networks worth $4.6 million for one kilometre.
Section 31 (Sub-section One to Six) of the Act states: “The applicant for a permit to survey shall pay a fee of twenty naira upon submitting his application, and a fee of fifty naira upon the grant of such permit. 

The applicant for a licence shall pay a fifty-naira fee upon the submission of his application, and a fee of N200 upon the grant of such licence. The holder of a permit shall pay a fee of N50 in respect of each variation of such permit. The holder of a licence shall pay a fee of N200 in respect of each variation of such licence. 

An annual fee shall be paid on each licence of twenty naira per mile (1.6km) of the length of the pipeline, subject to a minimum of N200. The holder of a licence shall pay a fee of N100 upon submitting his application for a restriction order under Section 12 of this act, and a fee of such amount as the minister may determine, not exceeding N400 on such order being made.”

Olawuyi noted that “Failure to update the Act means that pipeline licenses are processed and granted at the cost of N20. This is not only unrealistic, but also quite lamentable given the quantum of revenue that is being lost from not levying the appropriate fees.”


He insisted that by appraising and updating all archaic laws, including the Pipelines Act, “we can significantly address inconsistencies and block avenues for resource waste and loss in this critically important industry.”


Speaking on existing oil projects without Final Investment Decisions, the don noted that while most of the projects are attractive from economic and business standpoints, issues of insecurity; lack of modern physical and associated infrastructure; and the generally uncertain investment climate in the country may continue to stifle FDI inflows.


“It is commendable that the government has stepped up its foreign investment drive over the last years. However, for these to yield positive and meaningful results for the oil and gas industry, the prevailing structural defects to long term FDIs will have to be meticulously addressed,” Olawuyi said.

There are concerns that the cost of doing business in Nigeria and other nations in the Gulf of Guinea might shot up, going by the renewed threat of maritime piracy. The EEZ extends for 240 nautical miles,”Dryad Global Chief Executive, Phil Diacon said: “These criminal actors are using the EEZ as a cover from Nigerian forces and the international naval forces.

“By operating on the margins of the zone, the pirates take advantage of ineffective co-ordination between Nigerian patrols and confusion about whether international forces have jurisdiction, he said.“The mothership used by one pirate group further offshore was identified using global satellite imagery as the Togo-flagged, 3,250 dwt chemical tanker Determination 2 (IMO 8201014) according to tankertrackers.com.


“The tanker, for which no ownership, classification or insurance details are available, has not been operating with its automatic identification satellite on at all times, thereby masking its location at the times of the attacks. So-called motherships are needed for pirates to operate in waters that are well out to sea and away from the shore.


‘Another ship, the 2013-built, Nigerian-flagged, 950 dwt product tanker Adeline Jumbo (IMO 9712424) has been closely watched as well,” Diacon said.“It’s not confirmed but there’s a lot of circumstantial evidence about the movements of Determination 2,” he noted.


Meanwhile, as the issue of protection from piracy in the waters off the coast of the gulf of guinea remains in front burner, there are indications that the operations of the pirates are have grave consequences on cost of doing business. The International Maritime Bureau (IMB) described the passage as “one of the most dangerous shipping routes in the world” and a “world piracy hotspot”.

“Due to that and a lack of naval presence, there is the motive of high financial reward and comparatively low risk of detection or capture.”Nigerian Navy has restated its commitment to fight the battle headlong, but the Head of Research at SBM Intelligence, Cheta Nwanze, said: “Nigeria doesn’t have a plan to tackle this menace yet,” He said: “Nigeria’s Navy is the most powerful in the Gulf of Guinea, but compared to the army and air force, it has been underfunded and neglected.”


That is proving costly for firms, industry experts say kidnappings at sea have become so common, they have increased the cost of operations. Businesses have to factor in the costs of independent security contractors, extra insurance, and, sometimes, ransom money. Considering all of this, Oceans Beyond Piracy estimates the economic cost of piracy in West Africa through 2017 at about $818.1 million, up from $793.7 million in the previous year.

Early in the New Year, specifically on January 2, 2020, four persons were killed and three abducted following a pirate attack on a Nigeria-flagged hopper dredger in the Gulf of Guinea.The 2,153 GT Ambika was attacked when operating some three nautical miles from the mouth of the Ramos River and nine nautical miles east of the Forcados Terminal in Nigeria.


On December 31, armed pirates also abducted eight crewmembers of the Greek-flagged tanker Happy Lady while the vessel was anchored around 2 nautical miles off the port of Limboh, in Cameroon.The kidnapped crewmembers include five Greek nationals, two Filipinos and one Ukrainian sailor. Series of attacks were also recorded in November/December last year where over 19 crewmembers were abducted and latter released.

The Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Timipre Sylva has disclosed that the modular refinery by Waltersmith located in Imo State, has advanced to a completion stage of over 90 percent, stressing that the development would improve supply of petroleum products in the country.

Speaking during the inspection of the ongoing works in the refinery, Sylva expressed excitement at the pace of the project, adding that the development of indigenous solutions to product shortfall in the country remained critical.

To him, the incorporation of the modular refinery component in the existing business concerns of Waltersmith Petroman Oil Limited, was exactly what the Federal Government envisaged by with marginal fields allocation.

Sylva said: “The overall expectation was to see indigenous Nigerian companies do well and the Waltersmith Modular Refinery is a major bright spot which has recently been incorporated into the nation’s projection for petroleum product sufficiency and availability.”He urged the company to focus on corporate social responsibility to ensure a sustained and successful relationship with the host community.

Sylva pledged the commitment of the Federal Government in ensuring that the expected completion date and refinery operations commencement date of May 2020, is achieved.

The project, being executed in partnership with the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB) would turn out about 30,000 barrels per day.

Executive Secretary of NCDMB, Simbi Wabote stated that necessary steps have been put in place to ensure that the full realisation of the objectives of the project was achieved, adding that the partnership forged with the firm, showed the power of public-private investments.

To him, the initial partnership with the company was stemmed from the quest to achieve President Muhammadu Buhari’s aspiration to improve in-country refined products capacity.The May 2020 completion date of the phase one (5,000 barrels per day) would coincide with the ground breaking for the phase two of the project targeted at delivering 25,000 barrels per day crude and condensate refinery; designed to produce gasoline, diesel, LPG, kerosene and aviation fuel, Wabote said.

The Chairman of the oil firm, AbdulRazaq Isa said the fundamental reasons for embarking on the refinery include crude loss resulting from crude handling and the cost of crude transportation from the marginal fields owned by the company.Isa said the partners have worked assiduously to ensure the phase one delivery timeline, which has been pegged at 18 months.

He said the Nigerian, an indigene of Abakaliki in Ebonyi state, allegedly stabbed to death the police officer, Nico Visagie, during a disagreement.

Olubajo said the details of the disagreement were still not very clear as the “major witness” was also stabbed multiple times and was still in critical condition at the hospital.

“After the horrific incident, the community members of Keimoes and environs went on rampage burning and destroying properties belonging to foreign nationals, Nigerians in particular,” he said.

“These attacks spread to Upington and Nigerians and other foreign nationals were also expelled from Upington.

“Prompt Police intervention this morning brought about calm but the situation is still tensed. Some locals were arrested by the police for public disturbance and malicious damage to properties.

“They appeared in a magistrates’ court this morning for bail hearing.”

He added that the suspect who stabbed the police officer had been arrested and would appear in court on or before Monday.

“We commend the swift intervention of the members of the South African Police Service (SAPS) and the arrest of the suspect is a welcome development,” he said.

“We hope the police will continue to maintain law and order in the area.”

There was tension in August following xenophobic attacks in South Africa and reprisals in Nigeria.

Many Nigerians were forced to leave the country while a diplomatic face-off was prevented between Nigeria and South Africa.

The funeral of Isaac Promise, the former Nigeria youth captain, took place in the south-eastern town of Umudim, Ohekelem, Imo State.

God’s Word is light. Psalm 119:105 says, “Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.” It’s interesting that it likens the Word to a lamp. A lamp doesn’t have strong beams. You don’t turn on a lamp and leave it in a stationary position; you’d have to carry it with you.

It lets you know that God’s Word is something you need every day. The Christian life is a journey; every day is a fresh day to serve God; a new day to please Him, and walk in the path that He’s ordained for you; you need His Word for guidance and direction.

Life may be filled with chances and choices, but through the Word, you receive illumination that gives you insight into the realities of the Kingdom-life. Psalm 119:130 (AMPC) says, “The entrance {and} unfolding of Your words give light; their unfolding gives understanding (discernment and comprehension) to the simple.”

Stay in God’s Word. Study and meditate on it until it gains the ascendancy over your life. That’s when you receive light and understanding; a new mind-set that transforms your life. You begin to see differently; God’s glory and abundant provisions become real to you.

Your journey in life should be on the clear path of progress, victory, and success only, because Jesus said, “...I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life” (John 8:12). The way to follow Him is through the Word. Make God’s Word your compass for navigating through life.

In a bid to escape deportation, two Nigerian nationals who have been living illegally in India for the past six years, allegedly staged a fight in a crowded market in Greater Noida, to land themselves in jail.
 
Their alleged plan, however, backfired when a video of the incident, which took place last Saturday afternoon, went viral and came to the attention of police.
 
Ose and Ayuvoi, who stay in Sector Omega 1, Greater Noida, were seen attacking each other with a big knife and a blunt object at Jagat Farm market by eyewitnesses, said police.
“We received the information from a passerby. The two men were brought to the Beta 2 police station. No one filed a complaint and there were no injuries. They were released after signing personal bonds,” said Tanu Upadhyay, circle officer 1, Greater Noida.
 
Charles Kennedy, a representative of an outfit working for Nigerians in India, told TOI that the two men came to India in 2014 on tourist visas and had been living illegally since then.
“They knew that they were illegal citizens and in order to continue living here, they probably staged this fight. I have informed police and they will be deported to Nigeria very soon,” he said.
 

 
Police said they realised that the fight was fake after they saw the video.
“In the video they are seen attacking each other. However, not a single injury was reported. It seems that they staged the scene to get arrested. I have personally asked the local intelligence unit (LIU) to facilitate their deportation in the next 10 days,” said Upadhyay.
 
In July 2019, Noida police had checked the documents of more than 300 foreign nationals living in Greater Noida. Out of these, 60 were found to be illegal citizens.
 
Noida police say that a lot of foreigners come to the city for education and medical purposes and stay back.
“We run campaigns from time to time to filter them out. A massive crackdown is being planned now too,” Upadhyay said.

During the video, Lump showed a loaded AK-47 semi-automatic rifle.
 
Agent Lucas White wrote that shortly after Trump announced last week that a U.S. airstrike had killed Qassem Soleimani in Iraq in retaliation for plotting numerous terrorist attacks, Lump under the name “BlackMan vs. America” began livestreaming a seven-minute video on Facebook. In the video, agent Lucas say Lump made several threats against the president, who was staying at his Mar-a-Lago club, less than an hour away.
 
When confronted early Saturday at his home, Lump admitted producing the video in response to Soleimani’s death, but said it was a joke. But nowhere in the video did Lump say he was joking and conceded, “I should not have did it in the first place,” White wrote.

A North Korean mother might be jailed for saving her two children from a house fire and allowing portraits of North Korea's past leaders to burn. 
 
The country's Ministry of State Security has reportedly placed the woman under investigation after a fire broke out in a home shared by two families in Onsong County, North Hamgyong Province, close to the Chinese border.
 
The parents were out at the time the fire started but rushed back to save their families after seeing smoke, and in the process of saving their clans, one set of portraits was destroyed.

'The mother will be able to focus on caring for her children once the authorities end their investigation,' the source said. 
 
Jun Yoo-sung, who fled the country in 2005, recalled such an incident in a 2015 interview.
'When a house was set on fire, some child was found to have been burnt to death holding on to those portraits,' she said. 'Of course, such incidents are used for North Korean propaganda.'

Gunmen, suspected to be herdsmen, on Thursday, killed 12 persons and injured one at Kulben village of Kombun District of Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau.
 
DSP Terna Tyopev, Plateau Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) said that the incident occured in the early hours of Thursday.
“In the early hours of today, we received a distress call that gunmen, suspected to be herdsmen attacked Kulben community of Kombun District of Mangu. As a result, 12 persons lost their lives and one severely injured. Immediately we received the information, the commissioner in charge of the command, Mr Isaac Akinmoyede, directed the DCP in charge of Operations, Mr Aliyu Tafida to mobilise to the scene.
 


As I speak, our team of detectives and other officers are in the scene of the crime to prevent further attacks,” he said.

All he did was score four total touchdowns, finishing as the QB2 overall behind only Russell Wilson. The rookie finished 23 for 36 with 336 passing yards, 9.3 yards per attempt with an additional 28 rushing yards and four total touchdowns (two rushing). The athleticism is really what makes Jones valuable for fantasy football. We've seen below-average passing quarterbacks become relevant in fantasy football because of their rushing ability. His matchup heading into Week 4 is a plus as well, going up against the Washington Redskins. Washington's secondary is aging and one that Jones, Evan Engram, and Sterling Shepard should be able to take advantage of. If you miss out on Jones or want a more proven option, Matthew Stafford is facing the Kansas City Chiefs in a game with a 53.5 game total, the highest of any Week 4 game thus far. It's not always pretty with Stafford but he'll likely be playing from behind, which means we get passing volume against a suspect defense.If you play in a deeper league, Case Keenum and Jacoby Brissett have plus matchups as well heading into Week 4. Let's start with Keenum who will be opposing Jones and the New York Giants.The Giants have a poor defense. They just allowed 380 passing yards and three touchdowns to Jameis Winston, just two weeks after allowing 405 passing yards and four touchdowns to Dak Prescott. Keenum could have his way against this Giants secondary.Andrew Luck, who? Although the Colts may be handling Brissett with kid gloves Color Rush Yodny Cajuste Jersey , he's performed well. Through three games, Brissett has completed 71.7 percent of his passes with multiple touchdown passes in each game. He'll face the Raiders in Week 4 who are allowing 286.3 passing yards and 26 points per game.RUNNING BACKSWayne Gallman vs WASRashaad Penny at ARIZDarrel Williams at DETRonald Jones at INDYIt's not the best week in terms of running back waiver adds but if you lost Saquon Barkley or have suffered from underperformance, there are a few names to target.With Barkley sidelined 4 to 8 weeks with a high ankle sprain, Wayne Gallman will assume the starting duties. While Gallman isn't the athlete Barkley is, he has a real opportunity for the next month or two.Gallman was a fourth-round pick in 2017 out of Clemson where he had 66 catches in a three-year career. At the least, we know he can catch the ball, which should mesh well with a rookie quarterback.Additionally, the Giants offensive line has performed well, believe it or not. According to Football Outsiders, the Giants line ranks first in run-blocking this season. It's not often you're told to add a running back who was just inactive but this is a unique situation.Entering this season, Seahawks running back Chris Carson fumbled three times in 18 games. Well, so far he's fumbled in each game of the 2019 season, with a few of them being pivotal. Rashaad Penny missed Week 3 with a hamstring injury but he's looked good this season, averaging 5 yards per carry, albeit on just 16 carries. If Carson continues to fumble or perform poorly, Penny could take over as the team's lead back.Admittedly, there are a lot of moving parts when it comes to the Chiefs backfield. Damien Williams and LeSean McCoy top the depth chart but are dealing with injuries, Darwin Thompson was a preseason darling Youth Yodny Cajuste Jersey , and Darrel Williams was the forgotten piece to the puzzle. Forgotten, no more. McCoy left Week 3 after reinjuring his ankle, which allowed Williams to step in. He led all Chiefs backs with 37 offensive snaps, running nine times for 62 yards (6.9 YPC) while hauling in all five of his targets for an additional 47 yards. This might turn out to be nothing if Williams and McCoy are healthy, but I'm willing to take a shot on anything involving this Chiefs offense. For the second time in the first three weeks, Ronald Jones severely outplayed Peyton Barber.In Week 3, Barber finished with 48 yards (3.7 YPC) while Jones ran for 80 yards (5.7 YPC). Jones still only played 23 snaps to Barber's 26, but if Bruce Arians decides to hand the job over to Jones, we could have a low-end RB2 on our hands. I'd be willing to stash that upside.WIDE RECEIVERSMarquez Valdes-Scantling vs. PHIPhillip Dorsett at BUFGolden Tate vs. WASDionte Johnson vs. CINPreston Williams vs. LACZach Pascal vs OAKI'm not sure why anybody would have dropped Marquez Valdes-Scantling after just two weeks, but the truth is he's only owned in 52 percent of Yahoo leagues. Valdes-Scantling is coming off a big game against the Denver Broncos in Week 3 where he had six catches for 99 yards and a touchdown on 10 targets (28 percent target share). The Packers face the Eagles on Thursday in Week 4, a defense that already struggled against wide receivers and will be without their top cornerback Ronald Darby. If Valdes-Scantling is already owned in your league, feel free to turn to Phillip Dorsett. Dorsett is coming off a nice game of his own with six receptions, 53 yards, and a touchdown on seven targets in Week 3 against the New York Jets. After the Patriots released Antonio Brown, Dorsett was immediately thrust back into a significant role on one of the best offenses in the NFL. Add in the fact that Julian Edelman is dealing with a chest injury and Dorsett becomes a solid WR3 option.Golden Tate is suspended through Week 4, which means now is the time to add him before your league mates remember. Tate is a year older (31 years old) but he can still perform, especially in PPR formats. He's had at least 74 receptions in each of the past five seasons and should provide a safety blanket for rookie Daniel Jones.Quite the opposite of Tate is Diontae Johnson, rookie wide receiver for the Pittsburgh Steelers. Johnson won't demand a ton of targets and receptions but should be able to make some big plays. If there's one thing Mason Rudolph can do decently well Womens Yodny Cajuste Jersey , it's throw the deep ball. Johnson ended Week 3 with three catches for 52 yards and a touchdown on six targets (23 percent target share). There will be some inconsistency with Johnson, but the upside is there as long as he's a starter for the Steelers. I understand it's not popular to own Miami Dolphins for fantasy football right now but there should be interest in Preston Williams. In Josh Rosen's first start with the Dolphins, Williams led the team with 11 targets and 67 offensive snaps. The Dolphins defense is so bad that it should allow for a ton of passing volume and Williams and Rosen have a clear connection.TIGHT ENDSWill Dissly at ARIZDawson Knox vs. NEWill Dissly was a popular addition last week, but the truth remains: he's only owned in 45 percent of Yahoo leagues. Dissly put together another big-time performance in Week 3 with six receptions for 62 yards and a touchdown. The real reason you want Dissly is his Week 4 matchup against the Arizona Cardinals, who are allowing the most fantasy points to tight ends this season and it's not close. If Dissly is already owned in your league, I really like what I saw from rookie Dawson Knox of the Buffalo Bills. In Week 3 against the Bengals, Knox led the Bills in receiving with 67 yards and a touchdown on three catches. He also led all their tight ends in offensive snaps (43) and routes run (21). Knox faces the Patriots in Week 4, a team that has been strong against tight ends but if the Bills have any chance of competing in that matchup, they're going to need Knox to step up.For those who like to stream defenses on a weekly basis, make sure to check out the Colts (vs. OAK), Steelers (vs. CIN) and Bengals (@ PIT). He could play any position on the defensive line but I think its best if he move outside to DE where he could show off all his physical skills. Adding a player of his caliber and with his potential could arguably make the Redskins defensive line the best in the league especially after he learns some things from coach Tomsula. As I mentioned in Zach Allen’s profile the Redskins identity is their defensive line. Wilkins not only would elevate the unit but really hammer home some of the character and leadership rebuilding that the team has needed and has just started to undergo. If Wilkins is there at 15 the Redskins have to consider him.

Having a lead and things like that. So we’ve been talking about turnovers. I feel like being able to get that one was big for us.”The pick was just the fifth by the Steelers in 14 meetings against New England quarterback Tom Brady and their seventh of the season. It is the first time in over 15 years that Marvin Lewis won’t be running practices, and everyone wants to know what the Bengals new head coach, Zac Taylor, will be doing different.Taylor gave a sneak peak on Geoff Hobson’s Choice Podcast this week, and it seems like Taylor will be taking an interesting approach:“We’ll have a couple of more days off than teams have historically done,” Taylor told Hobson. “When we’re on the field we want our guys to play fast and physical. We’re not going to be on the field for three hours. It’s closer to two hours. That way our guys are fresh, top-notch and at their best.”It almost sounds counter productive to shorten practices in order to have a better team, but this is actually an interesting way to go. If you hear stories from guys who played in the 70’s and 80’s Womens Darqueze Dennard Jersey , it wasn’t uncommon for players to not be working out heavily around the calendar year. In fact, it was pretty common for players to use training camp as a way to get back into football shape.More recently, players have been taught that they need to be constantly working out, or else someone is going to pass them. One positive to that becoming the norm, is that players don’t need to rely on raining camp in order to get their bodies to an acceptable level of fitness. In fact, having long training camp days on top of players spending most of summer getting into shape can lead to overworking players and injuries.It is also interesting that Taylor notes he has heard of another successful coach using this same approach. “From what I heard of Paul Brown, that’s very similar,” Taylor said. “Making sure when the first game rolls around these guys are fresh, prepared and ready to go and be confident in what they’re doing. Maybe not all that much different than what Paul Brown used to do.”There are definitely worse coaches to show as an example for why you think your training camp style can be successful. Again Womens Cordy Glenn Jersey , those were different times, but this approach is probably more applicable now than ever.This era of football, it seems like most teams are trying to get in more and more snaps at practice, when maybe it is time to start thinking about doing less. The only downside really comes for those depth players or players fighting to make the roster. The less snaps they have, the less chances they have to make an impression. That is probably the biggest valid argument against doing less during training camp.Taylor is obviously taking a little bit of a chance here. He is banking on these guys playing better because they won’t be as worn out as some other teams late in the year. It also will hopefully cut down on injuries. He will probably also get a slight boost in morale cutting down on the longer practices. Whether all of this ends up working out as Taylor plans will be seen over the course of the season. He is clearly setting out to make some changes though, which is what he was brought here to do.

Bush has closed the gap between “the Devin’s”, thanks mostly to a strong Combine effort, but many believe that Devin White will have the superior NFL career in the long run. While a lot of Bush’s tape shows some nice instincts, he does show a penchant to “chase-and-tackle” over “diagnose and destroy”. There’s also the knock of his garnering of one interception in three collegiate seasons. While it isn’t the only statistic to show prowess in the skill, he will need to step that part of his game up even further if the Bengals are going to make immediate noise in the AFC North. Who goes with Bush’s arrival?: Probably no one, unless the Bengals double or triple-dip at the position after grabbing him in the first round. Gunmen kill 12 in Plateau State






A tragic incident occurred in Kulben village of Kombun District of Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau in the early hours of Thursday January 9, as gunmen suspected to be herdsmen stuck, killing 12 residents of the community. 
 
The state's police spokesperson, DSP Terna Tyopev who confirmed the attack which also left a resident of the community injured, said a team of police officers were deployed to the community to prevent further attacks. 
 
He told newsmen; 
 

Quote:“As a result, 12 persons lost their lives and one severely injured.
“Immediately we received the information, the commissioner in charge of the command, Mr Isaac Akinmoyede, directed the DCP in charge of Operations, Mr Aliyu Tafida to mobilise to the scene.
“As I speak, our team of detectives and other officers are in the scene of the crime to prevent further attacks.”

One of the sea pirates who killed 4 Nigerian Navy personnel and also kidnapped 3 foreigners at Agge in Bayelsa state, have been arrested after a gun battle with Special troops of the Nigerian Navy on Tuesday January 7. 
 
The gun battle ensued shortly after personnel of the Nigerian Navy Forward Operations Base (FOB) Igbokoda at its Awoye outpost, received intelligence at about 11pm of an approaching speed boat suspected to be carrying kidnappers and victims of kidnapping.
 

 
The intelligence came days after laying siege to apprehend the suspects who killed 4 naval personnel serving under the jurisdiction of NNS Delta, an operations base in Warri, Delta State.
 
Upon seeing the Special Forces deployed in gunboats at the entrance of the Sea, the suspects reportedly opened fire which was tactically manouvered by the naval personnel who opted not to push a counter attack which might hurt the kidnapped victims. 
 

 
The sea pirates who beach landed at a nearby creek and fled into the bush, suffered a counter-attack launched by the special troops who got an extra support from naval personnel at Idi-Ogba and Abereke outpost and youths who helped them search the entire community. 
 
Three (3) foreign nationals (two Russians and one Indian) were rescued and evacuated to naval base after a three hour gunfire battle with the sea pirates. One of the suspects identified as Martins Egenuvhe from Olopa Community in Bayelsa state was also arrested with a rifle.

JAMB orders ABU to offer girl medicine after being accused of denying her the course because she is a Christian






The management of Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) has been ordered by the Registrar of JAMB, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede to grant one Miss Shekwobyalo admission in Medicine.
 
The order came after a  review meeting with the representative of the Commissioner for Education in Niger State Bellu Attahiru, the Admission Officer of ABU Haruna Ali Mohammed, representatives of the Civil Society Organisations and top officials of the agency.
 
Miss Shekwobyalo who scored 309 in her UTME, had accused the management of the university of denying her admission in medicine because she is a Christian. 
 
After the review meeting, it was found that she was not the best candidate from Niger state despite her 309 score in UTME. “JAMB exists to ensure fairness and justice to all. I have addressed many similar cases in about seven universities without sensationalisation on the basis of religion or tribalism.”

Some of the allegation against Okorocha include arbitrarily releasing part of the fund for purchase of vehicles and transformers for political campaigns as well as diverting bailout funds to the commission, Paris Club refund, the local government joint labour salary/pension, the Secondary Education Management Board account, among others.
 
Speaking at the presentation of the report to Governor Ihedioha, the committee’s chairman Romanus Ezeogu said:

Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, says he takes responsibility for the fire incident that razed the Akesan market in Oyo State last week Sunday.

Makinde also assured that the State Government would rebuild the market and provide support to all victims of the fire incident.

He added that rather than engage in buck-passing over the failure of the past administration to provide necessary fire-fighting tools, he would take responsibility for the failure of the system.

“I must, at this point, express my deep sadness over the loss of lives and property because of the various fire outbreaks in Oyo State. This is deeply regretted. Of course, things happen that signal the failure in our system.

“I swore an oath to protect the lives and property of everyone living within the borders of this State, so I take full responsibility for this failure and promise that I will make things right,” the governor said.

Makinde noted that an investigative panel had already been set up to look into both the remote and immediate causes of the inferno.

According to him, the state government has commenced the process of acquiring an additional 10 fire-fighting trucks to boost fire-fighting services in the State. The governor also urged residents to be safety-conscious with regards to the prevention of fire outbreaks considering the current weather condition.

The Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi while receiving the governor at his palace said he believed Governor Makinde would fulfil his promise to rebuild the market.

Lagos: 35-year-old carpenter lures, defiles 9-year-old girl

An Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court on Thursday ordered that a 35-year-old carpenter, Timothy Olayiwola, who allegedly defiled a nine-year-old girl, be remanded in a correctional centre, pending legal advice.

Chief Magistrate K.O. Ogundare, who did not take the plea of Olayiwola, ordered that he should be kept in Kirikiri Correctional Centre, pending advice from the Lagos State Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), NAN reports.

Ogundare had ordered the police to duplicate and return the case file to the DPP’s office.

He adjourned the case until Feb. 26 for mention.

Olayiwola, who resides at No. 13 Omowunmi St., Mushin, Lagos, is charged with three counts of breach of peace, assault and defilement.

The prosecutor, Insp. Edet Akadu, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on Sept. 4, 2019 at his residence.

Akadu alleged that Olayiwola lured the girl into his room and defiled her.
The offence, he said, contravened the provisions of sections 168, 137 and 135 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
